But the SA27950D is not a 3D vision compatible monitor..
Moreover, this monitor has not a DVI connection, just HDMI.

This brings up an interesting point, which connection (if it matters) provides the better 3d effects?
The asus monitor has vga, dvi and hdmi.

I haven't experimented and currently have a ti560 connected via the dvi port.

The best connection type is DVI, then HDMI.
HDMI cannot transfer 3D more than 24 fps in 1080p (due to the HDMI 1.4a limitation).

good to know , thank you
btw: Crysis in 3d is nearly unplayable, a single 560ti just doesn't have the processing power.
A second gpu is in the works but in needing a new psw a rather expensive upgrade.

Wow if that's the case that'd be a total deal-breaker. If its limited to HDTV Play might as well get an HDTV. I think one of the Samsung's has DL-DVI input, maybe the 750D?

I considered a 3d-hdtv 32- 45 inch but far to spendy. I settled on the asus due to cost and "ease" in getting it to work.
A lot can be said for plug in and play...

Yeah but the Asus has very real and significant benefits that come with DL-DVI:

1) 120Hz for 2D. Great for games you don't play in 3D or games you just rather play in 2D.
2) True 1080p @ 60Hz in 3D.

Without DL-DVI that Samsung mentioned would be limited to 3DTV Play (with workarounds) over HDMI as no reference Nvidia cards support DP officially that I know of. Maybe a few non-reference models like the EVGA HD models, but even then no guarantee 120Hz/3D Vision over DP is supported. Or rely on AMD for 3D with HD3D since they do support DP.... /shudder.

I have always liked Samsung, they make a nicenice product. If I am not mistaken though, is Samsung compatible with 3d Vision glasses? I mean would mine work with it? I have always thought they were not. I like the samsung 3D moniotr that comes with its own TV tuner, thats cool!!!

But if I can not use my Nvidia glasses, then I can't use the product.
[/quote]

The Samsung S27A950D model doesn't have TV Turner, it's a gaming monitor unlike the model LT27A950 which has the TV turner and it's only 60hz. It can output 120hz for 3D, but this is only a benefit if you have PS3 or Xbox so you can play in 3D frame packing mode which is 720p60hz. This model LT27A950 is no good for PC 3D gaming as it's not true 120hz unlike S27A950D model. Both are identical in design and screen quality, but the LT27A950 is a mix of monitor and TV as it has a TV turner and comes with a remote control.
I don't care about a TV turner since I have 63" Plasma 3D TV, so I only care about getting the best 3D monitor in the market, and that is S27A950D.

It's not officially supported by Nvidia, but it has all the required hardware, DVI-DL + 120hz + Frame Sequential mode. There are workarounds to make this monitor work with 3D Vision games, but you can't use Nvidia glasses. Who cares, the S27A950D comes with its own 3D glasses that use bluetooth technology to sync with the monitor and the 3D quality is as brighter as 3D Vision 2, so it's really good.

You have to own a 3DV Nvidia emitter, but you can't use 3D Vision glasses with Samsung monitor. Anyway, if you buy Acer or Asus 27" new displays, they also come with its own glasses which are 3D Vision glasses 2 and you won't use your old Nvidia glasses also, so what's the matter? I will keep my 3DVision kit just because the I need the emitter, that's all I need to play 3D Vision games using this monitor. I just want to have the best 3D solution (Nvidia) with the best 27" 3D monitor in the market (S27A950D). It's a matter of fact, the S27A950D is far superior in every aspect to Asus and Acer. If you see all 3 displays, Asus, Samsung and Acer 27", one next to each other, I'm pretty sure you will understand my thoughts.

It's not 3D Vision compatible, officially, but there are ways of making it. BTW, you are confused, the LT27A950 has only HDMI and a TV turner, this model is not intended for 3D gaming in a PC, but more like an affordable 3D TV for watching movies and playing 3D consoles games that use HDMI 1.4 standards. On the other hand the S27A950D is a complete 3D gaming monitor since it has true 120hz, DVI-DL and supports frame sequential, SBS, Under-over and frame packing, and you don't need Stereoscopic or 3D Vision player to watch 3D movies, this monitor has it's own 3D tech just like a TV. I told you that Samsung 3D solution is far superior to Asus and Acer in every aspect.

Come on, Samsung is the leading TV manufcturer in the world today, those other companies don't stand a chance. I'm not a Samsung fanboy, but I've seen all 3 displays in live, and you can't compare this monitor with Acer and Asus 27" solutions. This is a fact. Unless you really hate glossy screens.... I think all those 3 options are at the same price range.

You guys should do some research before saying things like S27A950D doesn't have DVI-DL connection, it does and it's perfectly able to produce 120hz in both 2D and 3D modes. Take a look here at this link below:

Best Buy lists the S27A950D as having DVI-D. So how does that work? Can you buy an emitter and trick it into working with 3d Vision?

Added: Pardon... posted this before I saw previous post. Question answered. Would like to see some reviews of this monitor with 3d Vision and Asus 27 inch Vision 2 monitor. I like glossy screens best when the light can be controlled but it often can't. I can't in my setup.

Yep I thought so as well but I glanced again at the listings on Newegg and saw it only listed as DP and HDMI input: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=samsung+3d+monitor&x=0&y=0

In fact, none of the Samsung 3D displays list DL-DVI input capability. Newegg is generally very good about this kind of thing, but it seems they may have made a mistake in their listing or removed the DL-DVI capability of the monitor for other reasons. LOL I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia is taking legal action against Samsung for 120Hz/3D support over DL-DVI, and the first step is removing the advertised feature.

That's odd, since AMD 3D tech also uses frame sequential mode with new cards and that requires a DVI-DL connection to have 1080p120hz 3D.

I understand that Nvidia wants to give 3D Vision to their partners and make them use their Nvidia glasses. This is all for business intentions off course, companies like Nvidia need to make money out of their products and that means selling their 3DV glasses. I understand that.

I also do understand that if you have the required hardware and knowledge, you can overcome these barriers. I've done with my Samsung 3D Plasma TV C7000, I've been using it for checkerboard mode since I'll never play games in 720p60hz FP, I prefer half resolution per eye and 1080p60hz which is Checkerboard. 3DTV Play is a no go for me. So I think I have a shot on how to use this Samsung display witn 3DV. I don't think Nvidia should care about this, I still have their 3DV kit and I'll keep that as long as I want to play 3D games. I hate Tridef or IZ3D and don't intend to ever buy a ATI card. But I think I have the right to choose the best display and Samsung has it. Acer and Asus are cheap plastic ugly design with mate screens with heavy anti glare coating that produces a nasty sparkle effect just like the majority of 3D Vision Ready displays such as my Alienware 23" and most of LCD 2D displays. I'm a glossy guy and I've waited to much to put my hands on a nice 27" 3D display with glossy screen and DVI-DL. I like better colours and deeper blacks and that can only be achieved with glossy in my opinion.

OK, my VG278H arrived yesterday. No complains so far and no "oval-shaped" things at default brightness (90). Don't consider turning the brightness any higher as it is already high.

What I want now:

1) Whats the best way to calibrate it?
2) An alternative player to the NVIDIA 3DVision. I mean, man, there is no way to change the default audio stream, I can hardly believe it.

An alternative player to Nvidia 3D Vision one would be Stereoscopic player, but it's a shareware, not free. But you can use a free version but it won't play more than 5 minutes of 3D videos I think.

I read that even Samsung S27A950D is also hard to find, not many units available. Hurry up and get yours!!!!! I'm still waiting for mine, as I've ordered it from America and it's not available in my country unfortunately. I think I still have to wait 10-15 days to get my hands on it.
