3D TV Play and new 3D TVs
Hello everybody. /w00twave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00twave:' />

I want to buy a 3D TV and play games with my 3dTVPlay.
I've looked at the list of supported TV and found out that it is quite limited.
What about the newer TVs like Samsung UE40D6200 and UE40D6500 with 400 Hz? Will this TV supports?
Updated the NVIDIA TV list at all?

Please help.

Hertz, tv's and 3d is a complicated story. Those tv's interpolate frames between the native frames sent to the tv's so they update the image @ 400Hz. It's not that same as a general compability with 3d-vision or other shutterglasses. A more important factor is the lag between an input change until the screen changes. This is unfortunately seldom or never specified. If 3d is important it's definitely safest to get a 3d-approved monitor.

The first thing to remember with this is that 3D TV's have been designed with 3D movies and 3D TV shows in mind, not PC gaming.

I'll get straight to what I think you should do from my experience and then mention a couple of other things.

To do this right you need a screen that supports checkerboard. You should by a Samsung 2010 model 50 58 or 63 inch Plasma, model number is either PS or PN (southern and northern hemispheres) model numbers are eg PS50C7000, PS58C7000 PS63C7000. Their referred to as the 7 Series screens. The other option is the 2011 Samsung D7000/D8000 LED models. The 2011 plasmas no longer support checkerboard. Make sure it supports checkerboard, you can download the manuals off the internet to have a look.

You then need to get the nvidia 3d vision kit. (don't use 3dtv play, the results are not very good)

Also don't buy the 3D vision wired glasses.

Checkerboard is not supported on any 2011 samsung plasma TV (xxDxxxx) so do not get this one.

Thank you for the answer. I find it very strange that the new TVs do not support Checkboard 3d. Why is this so? What plasma or LCD television would recommend for a perfect 3D experience on PC, in your opinion?

Samsung all but abandoned CB in 2011. To say that their marketing department is run by a gang of trained monkeys is an insult to trained monkeys.

Actually, the 2011 LG line up supposedly supports checkerboard. I left this out because nobody in this forum has tested an LG in CB mode except for mocca, it didn't work. But that was a passive TV, LG active TVs may work, but they're untested.

I can only recommend avoiding any TV that does not support CB mode. The list of non-CB TVs is toshiba, Sony, panasomic, vizio, sharp, philips. Mitsubishi DLPs do CB, but there is an obvious 'screen door' artifact, I'd avoid all rear projection DLPs as they don't work well in CB. I 3D gamed on a Mits for about 6 weeks last summer so this not "some guy said" testimony.
Finally, all TVs have ghosting in 3D games, don't believe anything to the contrary. Problem is, nobody has ever put two different TVs next to each other (e.g. a Sony next to a Samsung) and played the same 3D game at the same exact depth settings, same contrast, same brightness, same pic quality settings, and made a direct A-B comparison of ghosting. On-Line reviewers don't test 3D games at all. So nobody really knows the ghosting difference between brands.
Some Samsung/LG Tvs do CB, some do not so contact me of you need details on a specific model. Same goes for LG.
