I'm on building my PC with intention to play games in 3D. I've come to the point where I have to choose a video card. Obviously, I want to buy on Fermi based one.
Well, GTX 480 I consider overpriced and my view drops on GTX 470. I bought ACER GD245HQbid monitor which goes 1920 x 1080 resolution.
I wonder how well GTX 470 will perform with 3D vision ? and especially in 1920 x 1080 resolution ??

I don't see how the worlds most powerful single GPU is overpriced in the least. You realize the previous two generations were around $1000 when they came out right? (9800 and 295)
The 480 is a Steal @ that price. Especially when you consider some 295's still cost most then this 480....That is if you can find them.

Because most people look at price for performance and don't care if it's a single/dual/quad or octo GPU.

Compared to the ati 5870 the gtx480 is massively overpriced. 10-15% more performance but costs about 25%-30% more. This card whilst very good is still not as good as many were expecting and take into account the locked cores, high energy consumption, heat performance and you can see this GPU is overpriced. Still i will get one when the price is more sensible, but if not for 3D i would have bought the ATI.

the question is not whether GPU is overpriced (after all most of us are budget depended) but how 470 will perform with 3D vision and especially in 1920 x 1080 resolution ??
Maybe some one knows links to review or tests or self experience on this subject ??

The 3d Vision will eat alot of your GPU's power. I remember reading somewhere that a dude was playing left for dead @ 80-90 fps (2D) and 3D 40-45 fps.
So you will need a good card. The GTX 470 lies between the HD5850 and HD 5870, def below HD5870.. but it is not bad card for your 3D experience i guess.
Maybe SLI will give you the extra boost when you can afford another one.
EDIT: Or you can also use a Dedicated PhysX card for the extra boost.

Yes, i am in two minds. My hope was a single gtx480 would be sufficient, but it appears that it wiil be no faster then my current set up. So maybe two Gtx470 in sli, but that is still £600. One Gtx470 would not be sufficient in higher resolutions and in med/high settings. If you are happy to play at lower res and lower settings and wait for the 470's to drop to sensible money for a 2nd card, it could worth a go. The physix set up would only work in games like Batman, but the main card needs to have enough ooomph to run the game smoothly. I have tried this with a gtx260 but is simply was not man enough. I am playing on the new Acer 245hd which obviously runs at 1920x1080.

Nice and smooth frames ~50-70
gtx 470 can run many games at 100 in 3d (all the high setting ones run around 40-60 in 3d, ex Crysis+Bad Company 2)
Having been at PAX East, I played left 4 dead on a gtx 275 in 3d just fine with a single card in an i5 system. All settings maxed with 3d vision. Granted it is an older game but it still uses the 3d vision well. As for a 3d setup, there was a fermi single-monitor 3d setup with a single gtx 480 that was running seamlessly with NFS Shift, BF Bad Company 2, COD4, and WoW. I'm looking into a GTX 470 build soon and was impressed with their performance at PAX (no word on whether they were overclocked or top-of-the-line, but 2 480s ran the demo they had in 3d and did so fine). I can't imagine that one card would have trouble doing 3d to one monitor, since 2 are required for the 3 monitor setups i've seen.
Short answer: 1 will be fine for 1 monitor. If you are looking for a multi-monitor setup, consider a second, but in all fairness if you are looking to drop $1200 on the monitors, why cheap out and not get 2 480's :D
Hijacking commencing... Would a card dedicated for PhysX be noticeably better for a gtx 470 3D setup? I was looking at a gts 250 for it but didn't think it would be needed.

Okay, this is what I have gathered. The 480s performance is close to(not including extra features like tessalation which add extra value being that anything pre 400 can’t do this) with dual 285s. However, that is what you see if you look at max FPS in benches run and compared. What needs to be seriously considered is the 480 in comparison to sli 285s has better minimum frames. The minimum frame rate is often time more important than the average or max. A better minimum frame rate can provide play that is more smooth than high max frame rates. Benches have shown consistently that the 480 does in fact get a better minimum frame rate than sli 285s.
That being said I have dual 285s and there are only a few games that I feel I can’t produce acceptable minimum framerates (for me its gotta be 40fps or more in 3d to be playable) in while using S3D with maxed settings. Metro 2033, GTA 4, and Crysis. I expect this list to grow rapidly though.
A single 480 running these games won’t put up numbers that look better than what I am getting with the 285s but they will provide noticeably more smooth gameplay as the min fps will be higher. However, if you truly want as close to a perfect gameplay experience (near constant 60fps at max settings) you are definitely going to need sli as a minimum.
As far as the 470 for S3D I do believe it will outperform dual 260s by a little as far as max fps goes and will again definitely provide better minimum fps.
Single gpu setups often tend to not have fps dips as low as multi gpu setups. Granted you cant say a 7800 will provide better min fps than dual 285s; you have to be reasonable as to what technology your comparing. As in last generation sli vs latest generation single.
I am not discussing ATI’s cards as an option at all as it shouldn’t matter since we are talking about 3D Vision.
Now I haven’t tested all of this to see if it is in fact absolutely true. This is my hypothesis as to the situation based on user reports on other forums and reviews/benches I have read.
I have a single 480sc that will be here Friday and trying to replace my order for my second one as Amazon has allowed too many preorders and are probably a month away from being able to honor all the orders they have taken.

Take the FPS given, then divide it by 2.
That will probably be about your FPS with 3D on.

Still haven't found any good benchmarks for GTX470 SLI.

Decisions, decisions.!!!

What is you current set up ?
Do you think 480 will be sufficient for 1920x1080 ?

Vista 32, Q6600 OC@3.2, 4 gigs of fast ram @1066hz, 2x 260gtx SLi OC. For 3d, the GPU is everything and the new 400 cards do not APPEAR to be fast enough on there own. I think it would take two to get games running in Med/High settings at nice smooth frame rates.
