I have posted on Biowares Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO forums the experience i have had with Nvidias 3D Vision, The difference it makes when playing an MMO like Warcraft.
Not the greatest reaction from the community as most people are saying the Tech is to expensive or believe that its the same thing as seeing a movie in 3D at the theaters.
I still thought it was important to post something telling some of the viewers my experience with MMO's when playing them in 3D, Or any game in 3D for that matter. I'm hoping that Bioware see's the huge trend right now that the entire industry is planing on going 3D and may consider making there game be able to run in 3D.
I was very skeptical at first about this tech, actively posting on many other forums asking about what people thought about Nvidias 3D vision bundle. Is it worth the $599 price tag. Youtube for the first little while had very little on it and offered no information. However In the past couple months there's been many more videos that have some great reviews on it.
I made the leap and im really glad i did. Warcraft is amazing in 3D and to tell you the truth when Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out im going to be playing it right away, but if it cant be played in 3D though i know i will drop it instantly. There's no way I'm going back to 2D , not after experiencing what its like to play games in 3D.
On there forums some people are showing mild interest with the product and this is great but some questions i simply cant answer. I just dont have the knowledge to provide them the right information .
Its a little lonely for me over at the TOR forums so feel free to chat with me there or send a PM, i will gladly add you as a friend.

lot of negative posts there... buncha retards if you ask me... lol. It's too spendy, it's an old technology... blah blah blah... just wait till they actually try it and then buy it cuz they realize they can't play games in 2d anymore.... lol. There are always a lot of nay sayers when it comes to new technology... it's really frustrating reading their comments when we have first hand experience with the tech and they don't, but they make assumptions like they're facts... The thing is that it's not just a new cpu or gpu or ram of some sort, this technology has HUGE impact on the way games are played.. I'm telling you that since I first booted this up i haven't played a SINGLE 2d game since... that's no joke either. When i showed my dad he was literally blown away and he said he felt like he was right there in the game behind the character (TR:underworld). Then i showed him GTR:evolution and he said he felt like he was really in the drivers seat... He seriously doesn't care about games at all but since i've shown him that he wants me to help him get tiger woods running in 3d on his dlp... lol. The impact on the gameplay in tremendous.
I think they'll come to realize this only when they actually put the glasses on themselves and give it a whirl... I was so impressed when I demoed them in Seattle at a shop that I bought the monitor and the 3dvision glasses on the spot! I'm sure they'd probably do the same if they actually experience it.
Don't worry, 3d if definitely catching on this time around!
As for the star wars mmo, as long as it's being produced by EA (which joined the 3d coalition officially last week i believe) i'm sure it'll have support!

Its funny that are Dads both did the same thing. I was shocked when my dad asked me to put in other games. I think thats when it hit me how big 3D is. I cant even count how many times over the years i've been hearing " Stop playing those stupid games" or " those things are going to rot your brain"
Now all i get form him is " hey can i play football on it, i just want to see what it looks like" 5 hours later he finally gets off the damn thing. I've told him 3 times to go buy his own kit. lol
If your Dad hasn't tried it yet pop in the Resident evil 5 3D benchmarking Demo and watch his facial reactions.. priceless !!

I don't think we have much to worry about since it will be direct vocal competition to WoW and now WoW is near-perfect in 3D, and as Recostar noted EA just joined the S3DGA so it's pretty much in the bag.
Although Mass Effect was also just recently updated (after EA announced that it joined the S3DGA) and they didn't go back and add integration for 3D crosshairs (still have to have ME's crosshair and Nvidia's at the same time, they didn't integrate them), so I don't think 3D is completely on Bioware's minds just yet.
Granted, I don't think any game devs have yet to include improvements to 3D support in a game update, such as full 3D crosshair support (making the in-game crosshair 3D without having to use the less-than-stellar replacements Nvidia provides) aside from Blizzard with WoW (and I still thank Blizz and Nvidia for doing each of their parts to fix the many problems that game had). But you'd think if Nvidia wanted to push 3D Vision better, they would work with more devs of popular past-released games that are still being widely played at get them to add official 3D crosshair support. So many FPSs would be more playable in max depth if Nvidia would just get off their bums with some things and it would increase 3D Vision sales I think. But I suppose as it is right now, it doesn't decrease sales either since Nvidia never warns you that a LOT, and I mean A LOT of games don't have 3D crosshair support without having to look at the game's built-in double-image crosshair as well as Nvidia's replacement. It's so annoying to see such a simple thing not be retrofitted with even many "excellent" quality games Nvidia lists. Even TF2's is not perfect because using the 3D crosshair slows the game down like hell.

Did you find it at least some what informative on the state of which people there feel towards 3D ?
The general consensus to me was that they don't care to much for it. They seem to not like it based off of false assumptions. Well i cant say that i helped any though, I'm not the greatest source of information for them.

At this point in the game development its hard to say weather or not Bioware has 3D on there minds. I hope they do cause in about 3 years tons of people are going to have 3D televisions in there home. Well at least a good majority of gamers will. Blizzard has done a great job working with Nvidia to get the bugs out . the depth on almost everything is perfect now. Slight ghosting and i still get that darn flickering but besides that its perfect and looks amazing.
BTW anyone know how to get rid of the flickering in WOW?
I also have a gripe with the Cross hairs being at the wrong depth . This drives me crazy and the fact that Nvidia isn't working on fixes for games like Mass Effect is killing me. Such an amazing game but rendered almost unplayable because of this. Im assuming there not because the games fairly old now and still theres been no sign of any fixes coming out for it.

I just got into the Aion open beta and played for a few hours. The 3D vision implementation in it is flawless. I didn't notice any ghosting at all and everything is perfectly rendered. I have never played WOW but the difference in quality of the 3D rendering between this and Champions is staggering. I really hope that Bioware takes the time to make their game work as well with it, because it is the MMO that I really want to play. However, after experiencing Aion with 3D vision I might have to jump in on it.

WOW... That AION open beta is something you all need to give a try... it is simply AMAZING!!!! I think it's probably the best implementation and best looking 3d game I have played! Fella1 is 100% correct when he says no ghosting and very easy on the eyes.. did i mention it was beautiful? This has sold me on this game... lol, gonna go pre-order while they do maintenance on the servers... wow, just wow!

Jacking the "depth" up to 100% is not the way to get a good experience. You need to find a careful balance between the separation and the convergence. In most cases just a slight difference between the views is all you need and there will be next to no ghosting. This is a case where less is actually more if you know what you are doing.

Aion is quite possibly the best game in 3D. And you can have amazing popout and depth combo on their, works really well. Some of the particle effects are amazing when they popout, and also some of the earlier flying creatures look incredible when they fly towards you and keep going right out of your screen!

I just dont have the knowledge to provide them the right information .
here is a link to the thread i started

Here's the link in case you haven't got it.

I'm so glad you pointed that out because i had completely forgot about EA's coalition. Thats great news. in that case i think we may actually see this MMO in 3D ,well i hope so anyways.
Thanks for the reply man

I wish i could provide them with the right information but i just don't have them. I tried my best , it just seems like there a lot of stubborn people on that thread.

Jacking the "depth" up to 100% is not the way to get a good experience. You need to find a careful balance between the separation and the convergence. In most cases just a slight difference between the views is all you need and there will be next to no ghosting. This is a case where less is actually more if you know what you are doing.

I'm really glad to hear that Aion looks so good in 3D. That was one of the games i was going to get till Star wars came out.
Hows the popout effect in the game? or is it more Depth?

Aion is quite possibly the best game in 3D. And you can have amazing popout and depth combo on their, works really well. Some of the particle effects are amazing when they popout, and also some of the earlier flying creatures look incredible when they fly towards you and keep going right out of your screen!
