A lot of writing and I need to read it before saying anything detailed but the rift is a fish eye lens[distorted]. Tridef doesnt have distortion. He may be talking about using rifts tracker or something I can't say without reading it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JGoBYCNH7k
He's playing it without the fish eye distortion, so in game it's distorted. He also has the aspect ratio wrong, so that the image is smushed up vertically. Then he says the Tuscany demo runs just fine on an HD3000, so there is no need for good GPUs. Later he says Tuscany demo made him nauseous- which Oculus specifically said is most often because of low frame rates. It's the number 1 reason to make you nauseous. It's extremely hard for me to take this 3CH3L0N guy seriously.

Well he is not lieing, but its not optimal nor do I think he is wrong. I am not really sure the degree of fish eye it gives with lens but its definetly not optimal to play with it but yes, you could. think he was mind blown by experience. He would of been happier with one of those custom made hmds though I believe. Long story short. He is a VR buff. Nothing wrong with it. He will make sacrifices for VR. I think the problem is reading this as a gamer/3d gamer. VR gamers are singing nothing but praise for the rift. No product has come close to it for VR. So if you read something by them it will definitely be eschew unless your buying the rift just for VR. With helix/3d vision releases/high compatibile games we don't have to. Like with 3D we have to make sacrifices, sometimes turning off this/that. But since no VR product was available before hes prepared to do just about everything and the issues don't bother him as much. Like when I first got into 3D I got mass effect 2. I turned off shadows, removed crosshair, set depthoffield=false[Ive talked about this one.... in case you missed one of my famous rants], removed lensflares and it still had issues. But I was mindblown. Thats my main problem with the rift, people who are the ones speaking up about it and own a set are the VR buffs. They have it and are the ones who will make "sacrifices". Now everyone else doesnt know of these "sacrifices". Now with time they might work these out but till then on any non "occlus ready game" you have to be prepared for them. Maybe still depending on developer. All I am saying is games using a renderer don't expect anything anytime soon. Even if I am trading a bit of 3D, Immersion is what I expect. Its got the advantage due to design over a monitor but tbh I think the cons still put it behind 3D vision in that regard still.

Good point. I'm the same way, I've played a lot of games in S3D, with zero depth and convergence up, just to get shadows to align- and thought it was awesome. There's some line there though, not sure where it is. I mean playing Infinite in low-res, screen door VR headset, at low frame rates, with full distortion. I dunno. I played S3D with the old Revelator glasses, and it was interesting, but not compelling. I think there is a minimal quality bar where it becomes a real thing, and below that it's just a novelty. It seems clear that all prior VR headsets fell into the novelty camp. Rift seems like the first to break my hypothetical quality bar. No question, I'm looking forward to jacking around with it.

@eqzitara I sincerely think you haven't read his review of the rift completely, he's incredibly objective on the Oculus, even at the end he's specially hard with all the VR and Oculus hype, he's incredibly close to your own words about the OR, for example he says: Putting all this together I would say the greatest barrier to the Oculus Rift attaining commercial success is not a function of this or future Rift hardware and software but the current state of Riftmania that dogs and prevents any debate or even comment on it. If your opinion does not concur with the current state of Riftmanics .. well just go check the comments .. the ones that have not been Riftdacted...yet.. You can see Palmer and co have tried to temper the hype bubble, not all of this is their doing of course. But we need less Carmack toilet role tube speeches deriding rival tech and more real world usage of the Rift. I use the Rift to help evolve it not to worship it . And people and Palmer that may be in completely different ways to that you first envisioned. In any case, I eagerly await for your OR review, I think it'll be the best hands on yet from real hardcore 3d user, right now there's too much "wow bullets flying everywhere cool!" reviews.

You guys mention at least 2 wrappers being worked on for the rift. Maybe we can reach out to the guys working on it and they may look into 3D vision support? Is DX 11 possible with these rift wrappers? Also, is it true that the production model of the Rift will be 1080p to each eye? I remember reading that on some forum, but don't know if it's true. I really hope the rift launches with at LEAST 1080p to each eye because I can't stand low res, and I returned the Sony HMZ2 because of it's low res. I guess it's too much to hope for a proper ultra widescreen res like 2160? Make much more sense and it would reduce fish eye, but the panels don't exist. I think the main problem with the rift is that there is nothing but off the shelf parts that are being used to assemble the thing. Oculus is an upstart and they have no way to create their own displays (costs, millions, and R & D) Hopefully the rift is successful and a hardware manufacturer like Sony will create there own "rift" with custom widescreen OLED panels, etc. I don't see how the rift will be successful in the long run. If they start a niche market and there is profit to be made, then they will be bought out or someone will just create a much better version for less money. Sorry guys, can't compete with billion dollar corporations. Especially with hardware. 90% of hardware upstarts don't even reach the market. The rift coming out as a consumer product would be a feat in of itself. Now Microsoft and Sony. PAY ATTENTION. Here's hoping next gen consoles jump on the VR bandwaggon. I think Kinect 2.0 with VR could be pretty damn amazing. Imagine reaching out and seeing your hands in realtime in a game? Every finger modeled in real time. That would be immersion.

I reached out to the guy developing the paid OR wrapper (I forget it's name). Basically, the response was that he may look into it when he's got time, but not to count on it. As for the 1080p per eye - that's the plan, but it's not locked down yet.

@birthright I did not, you are right. Was responding to bo3b's statement and misconstrued it with his. If I get time I will.

Did someone check this new expansion. I am downloading right now (5.4GB) but it goes very slow. Anyway - i dont see any reason to be afraid of 3D quality with it but sometimes the water effect might be messed up. I am on SLI rig so as far as i remember it wasn`t fixed.

There's a good chance it will have new shaders that need fixing.

There is no broken effects other then we`ve seen is base game. Those light and shadows seems to be more annoying because of darker enviroment (im talking about these small issues when you see them from far distance). Also ghosting is more noticable. Water fountains looks normal and all small water effects but those big water spaces behind glass looks weird. They are not broken but they kind of lacking the whole depth and that makes them hard to look at.
