War Thunder dx9 - Can't get simple helix convergence presets to work
Has anyone got any experience with War Thunder? Its 3D Vision support when running dx9 mode is pretty good (dx11 has borked shadows). However, the convergence needs upping a bit to get a good 3D cockpit feel. When I do this with default nv controls, the ground appears too close when landing. I thought I would use the basic convergence key preset technique so I could have multiple convergence settings with the touch of a key. I cannot for the life of me get this to work. I can't even get helix debugger to show its red debug text (despite dll creating a dump directory structure). I put dll and INI in all manner of directories with no success. If anyone has War Thunder and has got helix dll to work with INI settings can they let me know? It seems like its functionality is somehow disabled by War Thunder itself.

Ok, resolved my issue. I had renderer "directx9ex" selected. Once I changed it to "winXP" it started working nicely. Edit: you can't win. The convergence settings work nicely but my mouse clicks don't .... Arggghhh!

What's wrong with the mouse clicks? The dll is larger than 600kb, right? On the page it says it won't function with any of the dlls that are under 600kb. If that's not it maybe AHK could be used to bind something instead.

Basically, no clicks of the mouse register therefore no buttons can be clicked on the in game interface. I'm using same dll thats on helixblog site that has guide for multi convergence assigned to buttons. Button pressing changes convergence but mouse clicks don't register. Can you elaborate on AHK bind?

So for whatever reason your mouse (click) isn't working in-game at all, right? I'd try it without the dll, just to make sure everything's working properly, and then try it with a newer dll. I'm not sure AHK will solve that issue, I can send a mouse 'click' and a 'key' to change convergence at the same time but if your actual clicks aren't registering in-game to begin with I don't know if it'll matter much that we fixed the switching convergence issue. There's 4 guides, the 2 mouse guides use/have a different dll. Just make sure you're using one of those, or any other dll that's over 600kb. Thanks for the reply. Yes the mouse works fine with no helix mod enabled. If I use a newer dll (including the ones for mouse click convergence) then the mouse Clicks in game no longer respond. If I use an older helix dll (which I assume don't allow multiple convergence setting assignment presets) then mouse clicks are fine (but obviously whole purpose of me trying to use helix mod is lost). I think its just something wierd with thier renderer. As I said earlier, initially I was using their "directx9ex" setting and the multi convergence presets did not work (mouse clicks were fine). When I changed it to thier "winXP" renderer setting, the multi convergence presets started working but I lost mouse clicks. Very strange, but thats PC gaming. As much cocking around trying to get settings nirvana as actually playing. My girlfriend claims thats what I prefer doing anyway because thats what I seem to be doing most. Forum scanning and cocking around. Once everything is set nicely, I buy another game LOL. (Its all lies :D )

Too funny, I find myself doing the same thing at times ... I guess it can't hurt to try AutoHotKey. If you don't have it installed you can grab it here http://l.autohotkey.net/AutoHotkey_L_Install.exe after it's installed paste the following into notepad and save as a *.ahk file and run it.
RButton::Send {Click Right} LButton::Send {Click}
If it works I'll have to add more to it because all it's doing is clicking, so you can't hold down the mouse buttons but it should at least tell you if it'll work or not.

Look in Skyrim fix for example.

Well, unfortunately, I could only ever get latest dll to change convergence but then lost mouse clicks. Older dll didn't seem to be doing anything even with revised INI syntax (had mouse clicks of course). AHK didn't help me either. 2 things could be at fault... The game or my ignorance, either way, I can't get it working :(. (Works fine in other games).

I'm just guessing here but I don't think the older dlls work with the mouse but may work with the keys, if you can get the older dll to work with keys and your mouse clicks still work then we can bind your mouse button(s) using AHK to send a key and the mouse click(s).

I've tried all combinations I think (old and new dlls nd ingame renderers). Just can't get both convergence changes by key press and mouse click recognition to simultaneously work. Tried also with hier WinXP and directx9 renderers. No joy. Its a free to play game via steam if anyone else is remotely interested in trying. Cheers.

The 3d in this game is much better than it was when the beta first came out, animated cockpits are especially nice with headtracking and it supports triple-wide surround resolutions natively. There's even an oculus rift check box in the launcher settings so they have stereo 3d development in mind. The was a helix fix that stopped working after a game update a while back but it's not on the blog anymore though the game is still listed in the list of game fixes. There are still a few issues that would be nice to have fixed. In particular there is a halo that appears around the edge of the cockpit if you crank up the depth that interferes with the player labels. That can be eliminated by using low depth + higher convergence but higher depth gives a better sense of speed. I tried the debugger but couldn't get it to activate in any of the possible rendering modes in the game settings. Tried both new and older .dll's. Is anyone else able to activate the debugger? Again it's free to play via steam if anyone is interested in working on an updated fix.
