I bought a 3d tv samsung ps50c680.
I had 3d vision on my pc with a GeForce 9600GT, it's working great with the monitor samsung syncmaster.
according to the page http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-requirements.html#3dtvs I should use 3dtv play on my tv and i'd like to.
i downloaded the latest driver for my card 260.99 and the latest 3d vision driver , i also installed the 3DTV Play Support Update v1.0.0.10.
I connected the tv from the video card with the hdmi cable, i set the 3d tv as primary display and the monitor as secondary.
In the nvidia control panel the tv was displayed as "samsung".
In the device manager was displayed as "Generic PnP Monitor"
When i activated 3d vision in the control panel the wizard started , i passed the first steps but when it was trying to detect the monitor it didn't found it as compatible , it was allowing me to choose generic crt monitor or dlp tv.
I tried dlp tv but it didn't work fine.
I think at the point the setup should have recognized the 3d tv and allow to use 3dtv play but it didn't

You are lucky. Just go to the Samsung 3D menu and manually select "Checkerboard" for nVidia setting "Generic DLP" or "Frequency" for nVidia setting "Generic CRT" and you will have better 3D modes than what 3DTV Play has to offer. E.g. you can play in 1080p@60Hz (30 frames/sec per eye with Generic CRT/Frequency).
For my Samsung PS50c7790 these are the last two modes in the 3D menu (which contains only symbols for the different modes).
Please note: If the driver correctly identifies your HDTV as Samsung HDMI 1.4 device, these 3D vision modes ar no longer available und you stuck with 3DTV Play modes 720p@60Hz or 1080p@24Hz frame packing = 24 frames/sec per eye.
Btw. checkerboard 3D mode also works beautiful for iZ3d and TriDef 3D drivers, so with your TV you really have the choice.

You are lucky. Just go to the Samsung 3D menu and manually select "Checkerboard" for nVidia setting "Generic DLP" or "Frequency" for nVidia setting "Generic CRT" and you will have better 3D modes than what 3DTV Play has to offer. E.g. you can play in 1080p@60Hz (30 frames/sec per eye with Generic CRT/Frequency).
For my Samsung PS50c7790 these are the last two modes in the 3D menu (which contains only symbols for the different modes).

Hm, I downloaded the manual for the Samsung 680 plasma and took a look at it. It supports the same modes as mine. Most probably you are using the wrong HDMI input or have the wrong name selected (I had to connect my PC through HDMI1/DVI and set its name to "DVI PC").

The 3d modes you listed are working when you connect the hdmi cable from the pc to one port in the tv (hdmi dvi) and set the name as pc dvi.
I tried both settings described in this post, (dlp with checkboard and crt with frequency) , but in crt with frequency and the pc resolution 1680*1050 was swapping the eyes, the 3d image was quite clear but eyes swapped , in full hd wasn't working fine , in dlp with checkboard i was only seeing the 2d images with some ghosting on sides.
I tried some times with different resolutions, at some point the video driver crashed and i could only have 800*600 on both screens , i rebooted and that was fixed.

i just got my selvf a brand new dell xps 15 with geforce 420m..and it comes with 3dnvision..when i tried to activate
my 3dtv play its says that my tv is not compatible with this card..my tv is samsung ps50c7705 please help.
i have connected the tv with my hdmi.cable that works fine with my psp3..the 3d on that works fine but not my computer
There's a problem with Samsung Plasma and 3DTV PLay in matters of compability. But If I'm not wrong there's a new patch for 3DTV Play that addresses this problem, it adds compability for some new types of 3D TV's including Samsung 3D Plasma. There's a thread about this new patch in this forum, take a look.
I also have a Samsung Plasma, PN63C8000, but I have 3DTV Play working just fine cause I'm using a Onkyo HDMI 1.4 receiver that is fully compatible with 3DTV Play, so I haven't installed or even needed this patch anymore, so I can't say that it actually solves this problem you're having. But there's a patch, it's worthing giving it a try if you want 3DTV Play.

Nobsi, Thank you so much for this information. After I bought my Onkyo HDMI 1.4 receiver I could not see all 7 3D layout options that I used to prior to having this receiver. When I connected my Samsung 3D Plasma directly to my PC using HDMI/DVI input I could see all these 7 layout options, but with the receiver using the same HDMI/DVI 1 input I coudn't anymore and I could not figure it out why. After I read your explanation I understood why, I had rename the input as AV Receiver, and it only showed me the three 3D layout instead of seven, then I renamed the input as PC/DVI and now I can see all 7 3D layouts. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I'll keep the input as AV receiver cause I'm really not using those other 3D modes, but in case I want to play arround with IZ3D or Tridef again, I have the option for. But I still think 3DTV Play is the best one despite of the HDMI 1.4 limitations.

It really depends on the game. I use mostly nVidias and iZ3Ds stereo drivers, both now in 1080p@60Hz checkerboard as this mode looks better than 720p@60Hz frame packing for most games, especially if the game does not support AA.
The iZ3D driver has the additional benefit that it also works in windowed mode (where checkerboard is a good mode for) and has 3 separation/convergence settings per game, easily switchable via 3 hotkeys.
And for some 3d vision ready games with locked convergence for 3D vision, with iZ3D it is still adjustable (e.g. Resident Evil 5). That alone is a reason to use iZ3D for that games.

Any chance you can do detailed steps on getting stereoscopic 3d working for this tv? I have changed the mode to checkerboard, and still have no luck.

Hm, I downloaded the manual for the Samsung 680 plasma and took a look at it. It supports the same modes as mine. Most probably you are using the wrong HDMI input or have the wrong name selected (I had to connect my PC through HDMI1/DVI and set its name to "DVI PC").
This is directly from the Series 6 680 manual:

The 3d modes you listed are working when you connect the hdmi cable from the pc to one port in the tv (hdmi dvi) and set the name as pc dvi.
I tried both settings described in this post, (dlp with checkboard and crt with frequency) , but in crt with frequency and the pc resolution 1680*1050 was swapping the eyes, the 3d image was quite clear but eyes swapped , in full hd wasn't working fine , in dlp with checkboard i was only seeing the 2d images with some ghosting on sides.
I tried some times with different resolutions, at some point the video driver crashed and i could only have 800*600 on both screens , i rebooted and that was fixed.

I also have a Samsung Plasma, PN63C8000, but I have 3DTV Play working just fine cause I'm using a Onkyo HDMI 1.4 receiver that is fully compatible with 3DTV Play, so I haven't installed or even needed this patch anymore, so I can't say that it actually solves this problem you're having. But there's a patch, it's worthing giving it a try if you want 3DTV Play.
I also have a Samsung Plasma, PN63C8000, but I have 3DTV Play working just fine cause I'm using a Onkyo HDMI 1.4 receiver that is fully compatible with 3DTV Play, so I haven't installed or even needed this patch anymore, so I can't say that it actually solves this problem you're having. But there's a patch, it's worthing giving it a try if you want 3DTV Play.

Nobsi, Thank you so much for this information. After I bought my Onkyo HDMI 1.4 receiver I could not see all 7 3D layout options that I used to prior to having this receiver. When I connected my Samsung 3D Plasma directly to my PC using HDMI/DVI input I could see all these 7 layout options, but with the receiver using the same HDMI/DVI 1 input I coudn't anymore and I could not figure it out why. After I read your explanation I understood why, I had rename the input as AV Receiver, and it only showed me the three 3D layout instead of seven, then I renamed the input as PC/DVI and now I can see all 7 3D layouts. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I'll keep the input as AV receiver cause I'm really not using those other 3D modes, but in case I want to play arround with IZ3D or Tridef again, I have the option for. But I still think 3DTV Play is the best one despite of the HDMI 1.4 limitations.

It really depends on the game. I use mostly nVidias and iZ3Ds stereo drivers, both now in 1080p@60Hz checkerboard as this mode looks better than 720p@60Hz frame packing for most games, especially if the game does not support AA.
The iZ3D driver has the additional benefit that it also works in windowed mode (where checkerboard is a good mode for) and has 3 separation/convergence settings per game, easily switchable via 3 hotkeys.
And for some 3d vision ready games with locked convergence for 3D vision, with iZ3D it is still adjustable (e.g. Resident Evil 5). That alone is a reason to use iZ3D for that games.

Any chance you can do detailed steps on getting stereoscopic 3d working for this tv? I have changed the mode to checkerboard, and still have no luck.
