The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - just bought it, some problems with 3D
1 / 2
Hi,
Just bought it following recommendation but I cannot get 3D to be flawless. Without fix it works but not perfect, I kind if see ghosting, with fix the mouse cursor is gone and looks similar to without fix, ghosting. I cannot take screenshots with Print Screen to show you?
I see in AstronautsEngine.ini:
[Engine.Stereo3D]
bEnabled=False
EyeDistance=0.064000
HudDepth=3000
bOverrideFov=False
CrosshairOffset=1280
bVisibilityTestBothViews=True
bOverrideRecenter=False
bOverride2D=False
FrustumOffset=0.000000
Maybe there is some tuniing needed there? Ok I tried to enable this but can't see anything different so I reverted back to what the fix suggest.
28 minutes of play time (well of debugging) and I wonder if I will ask for a refund.
This is not the redux version as I know redux does not work properly.

I just checked the original version with the helixblog fix and it's working fine.
Driver Version 368.51

Make sure you are using the original version
Have you done this?

I just reinstalled the game and was set to AllowNvidiaStereo3d=False the game still looked excellent in 3D.

If AllowNvidiaStereo3d=False, then when you alt-tab out and back into a game 3D will not work.
If it is set to True, when you tab back in, 3D will work.
This is only found in Unreal 3 games AFAIK
I just bought Bioshock, and the 3D fix didn't work, tried a reinstall of fix and now it's perfect !!
The vanishing of E.C. works flawless here also, so it's usually just a matter of trying every possible solution, when you know it works for others !
1.Reinstall fix
2.Reinstall game
3.Uninstall driver with DDU
4.Reinstall driver
Don't touch anything in AstronautsEngine.ini
I deleted the fix and set AllowNvidiaStereo3d to False like it was originally.
Since I was forced to use DP intead of DL-DVI with my BenQ I now often have the problem of eyes reversed so I need to put my google upside-down. Usually I press CTRL-T a few times to fix it. It never happened when I was on DL-DVI so I hope nvidia will fix the problem soon.
Now the only other problem I see is ghosting in some places. At start I go on the middle of the bridge and when I look at the mountains on the right I see ghosting. If I could get rid of this it would be near perfect.

Ok finally a screenshot! I almost forgot ALT-F1 but nobody suggested it to me either so... :-)
Look under the train, something wrong with wood. I disabled every options in Advanced but other than less details or such the problem was still there. Same with mountains, or is it clouds not above but on top of mountains?

I'm at 40 minutes of play now. Refund is possible with less than 2 hours I think, right?

Go and refund already...Jesus... (You are not scarring anyone with that refund btw ^_^)
You don't like it don't use it... Always somebody comes along that loves to complain ^_^
Some of you simply cannot read or follow instructions (that are served on a platter) others encounter technical problems that they can't solve, nor are willing to learn... (Apparently Google is used only for stupid questions...)
The fix works PERFECTLY FINE. I checked it again myself.
Nope, I don't encounter any issues (No halos on one eye and no broken shadows like in your screenshot)
The fix is not working for you from what I see... Disable the NV shader cache and see if it helps;)

Odd, I gave the game a try and while in the Title screen, I had to wear my glasses upside down.
As soon as I was in the game I had to switch the glasses back to right side up.
Everything looks perfect. W7 64 362.00.
I got to the train and I do not see the anomalies that I see in your picture. I had motion blur and distortion turned off, turning them back on did not cause any issues. Now everything is enabled and still no problems.
If I hit control+T, I can briefly see what looks like the same anomalies as it switches to 2D.

Perhaps something is hanging up when you hit control+T too many times?
Have you tried wearing the glasses right side up, once you are in the game and readjusting convergence then?

You are not bothering anyone;)
From personal experience 90% of the time people can't follow the instructions or don't pay attention to some of the steps. All the steps are important, that's why they are there;)
10% of the time something else is wrong! but we can't exactly tell what since is specific to that user machine.
I didn't posted here just for the kicks of it anyway.
But, I see others members told you what to try, yet you don't say if you tried it or not.
So, try what the other members said as well as run DDU and install the drivers fresh and follow the steps in HelixMod.
Other than this I don't think anyone else can tell you what is wrong or why is not working for you.
You are entitled to refund the game if is too frustrating or you want to give up on making the fix work on your setup.

OP - have you disabled distortion? It says to do that in the instructions, I believe. Also, I have AA turned off (coz I'm running it on a 760) and it looks perfect in 3d. Finally, don't turn your glasses upside down :D Download Advanced 3d Vision Config or 3d Vision Eye Swapper.
D-Man, the title screen doesn't work - it's inverted.

I didn't really want to bump this but I wanted to thanks everyone for all the suggestions, I did try them all, with and without fix, disabled everything in game, ran DDU, installed an old driver, reran with different settings. After all this I decided to give up. Will have another look when I will upgrade CPU/board and video card in the next 12 months where I also install OS from scratch.
