im using 266.35 with the 1.4 3d driver..
running 2 gtx580 in sli.
whenever i do 3d mode(1280x720) in blackops, it would have poor performance.. getting around 23-28 fps....
so then i went DISABLE sli, and ran the game in 3d again, and fps jumps to 100+...
Game issue man. 3d Ready was a lie. It's not optimized for 3d. I too suffer about an 80% loss in framerate when enabling 3d. It's the only game I have that I HAVE TO play in normal 2d.
It's bullcrap since I can run games like BC2 (which really has waaay more going on than black ops), Metro2033, and every other game I have in 3d just fine.
Ya know, bc2 has better graphics, destructible environments, HUGE maps, and runs 3x faster in 3d than black ops. There really is no excuse for Treyarch's laziness on the pc version.

i just tried modern warfare 2 in 3d aswelll and the framerate is even worse...so i think its not game issue...
i had a gtx460 using the 260 drivers and 3d black ops was perfect smooth...now im using gtx 580, and sli 580, its framerate with 3d is appalling...
it must be a driver issue.
even using the Tridef 3d solution, its still giving 20ish fps...my gtx460 using 260 drivers has no problems....but 3d vision with previous drivers has problems with black ops, eg, bottom half of screen blurred while aim down sight.
also, fps seems to be a little better with my 580 setup if i turn AA down or off...8xAA with 3d = 20fps, 4xAA=28-30fps, 2xaa=35fps, 0xAA=35-40fps
and its not just the low fps, the mouse delays. i.e moving the mouse, the screen cursor will not move in real time. theres like a 1second delay.

It's still a new card, in sli as well.
Out of Intrest, have you tried disabling one card and just running in single 580 mode ?
I'm wondering if you'll see any change ?

Naa dude, It's just black ops. I'm running only a single gtx 285, and I run most games just fine. I'll be getting a pair of gtx 570's come tax return time. Black ops I'm sure will still run slow because its graphics engine is a pos.

Try reinstalling driver. I am running 266.35 with 2xGTX480s in SLI 765Mhz Core and getting fps generally of 40-60 quite smooth, at 1920x1080p 2xaa all settings max. This is on a 3 year old computer (QX9650, @ 3.8GHz). I get better framerate in Black Ops than in BC2. Try using game controller for buttery smooth control.

ok...updates on this tragic disatrous experience.
running single 580 with 3d is getting better fps than sli...BUT not by much...prbly 30ish fps as opposed to 20...
the 460 has no problem with 3d. maybe 20ish fps with 8xAA, but 4xaa is 40ish.
tried the 265 drivers and they seem a little better...a few more fps...
but overall 3d with black ops with 580 = fail

no 3d on we are getting over 100fps
and ur sli 480 should be getting near 100frames with 2xaa. u can max 8xaa at 19x10 with 480sli easy
