Will stereo work for me?
I have:
XFX 6800 GT AGP (dual DVI)
22" NEC FE1250+ (110KHz max horizontal sync)
Athlon 64 3200
1GB RAM

I was going to buy the eDimentional shutter glasses from Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16826504001

How good are these glasses for the price (since they're much cheaper than anywhere else), and will the glasses work through a DVI -> VGA adaptor? How good would this setup be?

Oh and does it get in the way if you already wear glasses?

I just gota pair of wired shutter glasses from e-bay for $11.00 + shipping. They were called zonica they are the same as the ED wired except the side of the glasses was clear and the cord was three times the length. I think the guy is still selling them. I also got a pair of wired X3d glasses from e-bay this summer for $20 because I wanted the software that comes with it. They are identical to the ED glasses but come with software called PC gateway that simulates 3D from windows video files.

This software is not that good, I found it on some russian site, hasn't been updated for ages, runs only after setting the mon to 16bit and there are no brightness settings plus it doesn't play a lot of file types and you can't fix the aspect ratio (unless you use ffdshow to play all the files). It's good for a little testing but not for permanent use, plus it has the usual weakness of 2d movies to 3d - no deepness when having a static scene and laggy image when having a too speedy scene.
Until they start to actually mass produce stereo movies this is the alternative but it's not a good one, might as well use stereoscopic viewer, you don't get a stereo effect but you get an imax giant screen effect.

Are you talking about the software for the zonica glasses or the ED ones or what? Do i really need any extra software or can I just download the nvidia stereo driver?

and how long is the cord on the ED's? can i use a headphone extension cable?

All you will need is the NVIDIA stereo driver, the software we are talking about is for converting regular mpeg files to artificial 3D. The only advantage of having ED glasses as opposed to others is for people who need the ED-driver for ATI cards or LCD monitors IMO.

I found a pair of Zonica for $13.00 + shipping but the auction ends in 14 hours. If you get the zonica don't install the driver from the CD it is like 5 years old.

They are the same as far as funtion. If you were going to get a wired pair, the cord on the zonica is about 3 times the length of the cord on the ED wired glasses.

I was reading some bad things on the zonica drivers, is this true? I was leaning towards ED because of the better brand name and they're still in business. But it's hard to pass up the zonicas when they're half the price. and would a regular headphone extension cable work?

I haven't tried their driver, you will not need it if you have an nvidia card. They give you a game called "No one lives forever" it does not work in stereo for me. Their dongle is a little different then EDs the glasses are exact except the frame is transparent. The X3D glasses are the exact same product as ED wired glasses and dongle but they give you more software including a CD of games but only a few will work in XP.
