Will the GTX 970 be enough for 144hz 3D gaming with G-SYNC.

I just need some advise about which monitor to get and if the GTX 970 will be enough to play at 144hz refresh rates at 1080p with G-SYNC. If not, then what card will ne enough? I want to spend as little as possible. Thanks in advance for reading me and for this wonderful forum!

Nvidia's stereoscopic drivers do not work with G-Sync. If you exclusively game in 3D, you should save yourself some money and buy a monitor without it.

Unless you know what you are looking for, you probably wouldn't notice G-Sync because it smoothes out what you are seeing, which you might not notice unless you are looking for it. 3D on the other hand is 3D! Hugely noticeable and immeasurably superior to cinema 3D. Will the card cut it? Depends on the game. It should eat most games for breakfast! In 2D you should hit that 144 mark but maybe not in 3D, which essentially halves your FPS. D-Man is right though, unfortunately G-SYNC and 3D are mutually exclusive.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I don't think you can compare 2D and 3D. For me, 3D is the way only to go for a long time, I simply love the depth effect and play all my games in 3D when it's possible, just like I go watch movies exclusivly in 3D now. As for your hardware, your video card is well enough for 144Hz@1080p (2D). The new trend now, still in 2D, is 1440p for which you will also be fine with maybe some few games you'll have to lower 1 notch some effects. I haven't read that much about gaming in 3D@1440p but it must be cool. I only know 3D@144Hz is not possible though. I wish nVidia would come with a 3rd revision of their 3D kit which would support that. G-Sync or not I'm not sure... I think that if your hardware can pump enough FPS then it's unnecessary as its effect are observed when running between 25-40fps from what I remember I've read.

I'm the happy owner of a Asus GTX 970 single Card - It runs allmost every game in 2d with max settings perfect.. But I dont care for 2D anymore - 3D is the name of the game for me - I wouldn't even bother to install a game without 3D support or Helix Ready anymore.. Back to the GTX 970 - It runs all 2 years and older games fluid on max in 3D, and most off the new titles runs rather perfect aswell - even a game like GTA V runs smooth with most setting on high (when it runs.. LOL)

No, if you want great performance with newer titles you are goint to need -at least- two 970s OR a 980Ti, I can't understand how members like Blacksmith56 write that a single 970 runs almost all games in 2D with max settings perfect..it's a lie, unless perfect has different meaning specific for him. I had one 970 G1 running at 1500Mhz and wasn't enough..SLI made a big difference to many games with -almost- no need to lower any setting, so I speak from my experience. For 3D a 970 is not enough if you want to play with high settings or more.

I would purchase a 980Ti or a Titan X due to larger frame buffer and you will not have to deal with sli profiles. With my Titan X most games run at 1080P 3D at 60 frames the most demanding games is witcher 3 in 3D with all eye candy turned up except hairworks the game runs 40-46 frames.

I just being realistic with rough speech so the OP won't get the wrong idea, playing 3D @60fps and above (meaning actual 120 for known required double rendering) you may describe it as perfect, still, even that can't be perfect if game is not optimized enough and especially using SLI you will have to use V sync for no tearing, Or Vsync OFF with tearing(depending of other factors for how much will be visible like display's model). I won't even start writing about micro-stutter on some titles due to SLI... or that some SLI profiles take long to be released and some times the never be, or the most annoying issues by Nvidia's "in development" status for DSR/downsampling with G sync etc for SLI vs single gpu... I already had on 970 that's the reason I bought another one knowing SLI pros and cons as this is my 3rd setup I owned using it. Now if I didn't have it I'd buy a 980Ti faster than a glance.

Before you buy a new graphics card, new monitor, and 3D glasses, tell us which games you play or will be playing. Since you've been gaming on a GTX 660, I presume you are satisfied with low to medium graphic settings, then maybe a GTX 970 will be enough for you. My opinion of 3D may be different than everyone else's here but I don't play all games in 3D. Only time I play in 3D is while playing dark games at night because it's very visually immersive and more scary than 2D. If I am playing a strategy game or fast-action multiplayer combat game, then I don't play in 3D because I don't desire visual immersion when playing such games. 3D is nice to look at but it can be distracting and it's a little more difficult to aim in 3D. Aiming in 2D is easy. Just move the 2D crosshair over the 2D target and press mouse button. Games I like to play in 3D are dark games with atmosphere and/or horror. And I play them all with little or no AA/AO. After a while, the lower graphics setttings no longer bother me, but I still play at 1080p. Be aware that many games have flaws in 3D. If you are happy playing older games, then there will be plenty of games you can play in flawless or almost flawless 3D.

I have almost the exact same PC specs with a 970. Most 3D Games I play are at 1080p 60fps with this setup. More demanding games will cap you at 30-40fps in 3D vision on a 970. Although you can reduce AA and things like AO to increase the framerate. You can't use G-Sync and 3d vision at the same time, only 1 or the other. For me, MMOs and regular non 3d games I'll use G-Sync at 144hz (and yes it's well worth it IMO) Everything else that I want an emersive experience on I'll switch to 3d vision.

Is true that I play my games at low to medium settings and never cared much about it. However now I decided to have 3D and Surround Sound Audio and improve my framerates. I already have a receiver with speakers but some games don't have surround sound implemented. How can I fix that? Regarding the inability of use G-SYNC and 3D at the same time, I guess I'll try to play most of my games in 3D, but use G-SYNC with the ones where 3D is not good enough. The games I play now: 1) Metro Last Light 2) World of Tanks 3) Age of Empires III (I know that these games are a little old but honestly I have enough fun with them right now to keep playing only these, however, I want to expand my collection) Games I plan to play in the future: 01) Metal Gear V 02) Batman franchise 03) Grand Theft Auto franchise 04) Battlefield franchise 05) Bioshock franchise 06) Crysis franchise 07) Shadow of Mordor 08) Skyrim 09) The Witcher franchise 10) Tomb Raider franchise I'm open to suggestions about cool games. I had plans to get two GTX 970s to run in SLI, but I kept reading and get indecisive again about which card to get. I narrowed my possible selections to GTX 970 SLI, GTX 980 SLI or a single GTX 980 Ti. I would like some advise about that as well.
