Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, any success?
1 / 3
Sonic racing transformed is the best kart racer ever in my opinion. I would love to play this game in 3D but the shadows are all messed up and make it hard on the eyes. There is no option to turn them off in the game settings, only goes from low to high. Has anyone figured out a way to disable shadows in this game?

I started the following forum thread on the SOL SUMO forms... If we want them to actually look into it, we'll need them to know that people actually use this functionality.

Developers are only option imo. Its hud is the main issue rather then shadows. Helix knows how to depth buffer but it doesnt really matter since icons arent actually hitting the drivers. They tend to go everywhere. And you cant just push it into depth or racers when close to you will look messed up. Its very distracting since the icons are attached to the racers and disabling them from racers would disable from minimap.
If you want to see what I mean.
Press f2-f3 to change hud depth.
press f4 to hide hud.

I dont have it installed anymore but I think if you use prototypes profile its gets rid of the "ghosting" issues. Either rename the exe or use nvidia inspector.

I disabled the following vertex shaders (I'll just list the files names) using the debugger going through various levels... each seeming to have it's own unique set of issues. So far, the shadows appear to be all gone, and the only issue is with the water... hehe... which I removed. Yes. I removed certain shaders which resulted in the water actually being totally gone... it's a bit weird, but it's better than getting eye strain from seeing weird doubles of everything any time you cross over a lake.

I will take a look at the one provided by eqzitara and see how I feel about it. I might add my own setup to that one...

I think the changes you made to the hud are nearly perfect. They're not EXACTLY above the players... but very close. If someone is that picky that they'd be bothered by it, they should not do 3D. I think it's great. As far as many of the shadows and doubling issues, it appears that there are different problems with many different levels. Some of the vertex shaders I disabled really really help, and along with your HUD fixes, it makes it VERY VERY playable. I've been playin now for a bit, and I"m having a blast. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about the water issue. Making the water go away completely isn't THAT bad... you still see the ground, so it's almost as if you're like... a hover craft. That and you no longer see doubles. I might keep at it as far as fixing a way to make it work ok, but I really have no freakin clue what I'm doin here.

OK... so... using Nvidia Inspector, I removed ASN_App_PcDx9_Final.exe from the ASN_App_PcDx9_Final.exe profile, and added it to the prototype profile. That did it. The ghosting issues with the water are TOTALLY gone. The water if flawless. That, along with the vertex shaders I removed and what you had removed... plus the hud changes you made... and I have to say that this might be one of the greatest 3D games I've ever played. It's nearly perfect. an absolute joy. I think you guys really need to add it to the HELIX games list. It's not at all playable without these changes, but after the profile change and the helix mod... wow. Just wow. I also went through some of the shaders I disabled, and realizied I only needed 2 more than what you had. It was vertex shader 24 and 26. To be more speciifc...
VertexShader_24_CRC32_C3AA7DF8.txt
VertexShader_26_CRC32_D6DD7A9F.txt
I tossed those into the vertexshaders directory, and bam. I think I'm gonna go see how it handles split screen :D

I posted a video of the game using the configuration discussed above.

EDIT: I updated the link to a new video that has clips of multiple levels... land, sea, and air.
I'm having a lot of trouble getting this to work. There seems to be no profile in Nvidia Inspector for this game. I am using the steam version. Can anyone help?
Thank you,

Then profile will be whatever you launch game as the first time. ASN_App_PcDx9_Finall I believe.
Look at sonics folder and its whatever the exe's name is. If you go to reassign it in nvidia inspector it will say its assigned to "blah blah's profile" if it doesnt let you.
If you dont know what I am talking about or never did this before go here http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/12/farcry-3-shadowslighting-fix-for-sli_24.html
Instructions are the same beside Farcry 3= ASN_App_PcDx9_Final . Aion = Prototype.

I got it working now. This game is excellent in 3D. I really respect and appreciate all you have done for the 3D community. Thank you!
