That is just toooo bizzare.
Perhaps Microsoft has it blacklisted in some way, for some reason.

This is a common problem in windows 10 with 3dvision refusing to kick in at all in certain games even when they have an exclusive full screen mode.
Only thing I have found to resolve this is a dual boot system with win 7
Torchlight 2 for example also has this problem.

I tried this trick but it did not work for me.
I renamed FEAR.exe to noFEAR.exe then added this new exe to the game profile using nVidia Inspector (as shown here: http://picpaste.com/fear1-O8sldlqq.jpg).
Is there something I am missing, TsaebehT?
Thanks!

That didn't for me.
I tried it already (also Windows XP compatibility). Interesting to note about this is that the property of the .exe file of FEAR does not show the compatibility tab in Windows 10. The only option the user has to force it is to right click on the file and choose Troubleshoot Compatibility.

Maybe try setting your display to 120Hz? Although this worked fine for me when it was set to 60Hz, 120Hz or 144Hz.
...and obviously make sure to run noFEAR.exe and not the shortcut to FEAR.exe. :)

Hello TsaebehT!
Of course I did run the renamed .exe file when I tested it.
My version is installed from DVD but I doubt it would make any difference if I bought the digital version from Steam or GoG.
And the refresh rate of my monitor is already set to 120Hz so that cannot be either.
Now I would like to see if somebody else could try your method and report it either working or not. It is a shame that F.E.A.R. does not work properly in 3D Stereo on Windows 10. I am mostly interested in playing some classic and each time I try one is like flipping a coin.
I am mostly interested in playing some classic and each time I try one is like flipping a coin.
I've been buying/rebuying older disc-based games and trying to get them to work in 3D a lot myself lately... what I've found is that usually if it triggers 3D but is still 2D it's using the wrong StereoTextureEnable value, sometimes if it doesn't trigger 3D it's missing the StereoProfile(d3d9) flag and other times they require the use of dgVoodoo2(<d3d9) to trigger 3D... as well as a different StereoTextureEnable value to make them/fix 3D.
What version are you running? It looks like v1.08 was the last update for the disc version... if you're already using that then maybe try using a patched/no-DVD exe?
edit:do you have the FEARMP.exe? Maybe try running that either from FEAR or directly? ...it just silently crashes here.
Or maybe rename FEAR.exe to FEARMP.exe... or to something else and not put it on a Profile, like MISC.exe...

Okay, this is interesting.
Your very latest suggestion produced in fact a result. I can force 3D Vision by renaming the FEAR.exe to something completely different (I did try MISC.exe).
This would seem to suggest that the problem is in the game profile somehow.
Since I am completely ignorant about how profiles work and about all the thousand settings available, would you mind helping me out and tell me if I should consider creating a custom profile for this very game using the renamed .exe?
What should I do in order to make it work right?
Thanks!

It doesn't help the people using Win10, but as a datapoint I just tested the game on Win7, Steam version (1.08.282.0, Ultimate Shooter Edition), Driver 378.92, and it is still working well. Skybox is broken. I did not play far enough to look for water.
Just an observation about the new Microsoft- they don't care about backwards compatibility anymore.
Historically Microsoft went to great pains to keep old software running. This is one reason they become so powerful, because people could trust their software investment would continue to work.
That company is dead. New Microsoft can give a damn about your old software.

D-Man11,
I will read through those two topics. They seem to have many answers and I need to know more.
I have installed the very useful 3DFixManager and I am going to learn more about how the Nvidia Profile Inspector works. When I started the software, I noticed there are many parameters to consider and it can be a bit overwhelming.

It's not a Profile issue, I had already stripped out every single setting... like I said, for what ever reason it's that it's named "FEAR.exe"...
You did however prove once again that using GeForce 3D Profile Manager is better/more consistent than using NVIDIA Inspector/nvidiaProfileInspector when it comes to dealing with Profiles.
I reset the Profiles, added nofear.exe using nPI and it fails, just like it did for you... I never really use NI/nPI but it is very interesting that something as simple as adding a Profile with it fails here.
I reset the Profiles again, added nofear.exe using GF3DPM and as expected it works...
