I have an W7-64 XPS (9800m GTX SLI @ 2048)... I know 3D vision will not work with the laptop's 60hz display.
I also have 4 3D displays (3 acer 24" and a 73" mits DLP).
When I installed the new nvidia drivers, I didn't get the 3D option until I plugged the laptop in the TV (didn't even try the acers yet).
After noticing the 3D option showed up, I tried to setup 3D vision.
It didn't work, but I have a feeling that maybe it can. The system is HDCP compliant, I'm using the correct HDMI cable (dual dvi to HDMI), TV is in 3D mode. 3D vision picks up my TV. The 3D gets activated, glasses turn on, but it's interlaced (shows both images on both lenses).
I had the same problem with my acers when I first got 3D vision for my PC, a driver update solved the problem.
But now I'm on the latest driver and these cards have been out for a while. Is this not meant to work? I've heard that some XPS are dual dvi out and some are not.

OK, it DOES work... hope this can help someone else out.
My problem was either that I had scaling turned on (aspect ratio) in the nvcpl, desktop resize (mits overscans) AND had my DVI/HDMI going into port 2 on the TV, I put it in port one (this port autoscales for me).
With that said, I made those adjustments, re-ran the setup and everything worked.
As far as having to really scale down graphics to get 3d to work well, not SO MUCH. I have SSF4:AE maxed out (AA is on c8x) and I'm getting a cool 60fps. Metro at 1080p, Normal, AAA, 8af works great.
On top of that, I'm offloading the LCD heat (it's turned off) and the machine is ALOT COOLER.

Just be careful with the heat of the GPU's. I had no luck with the M1730.
No Overclocking and GPU-Temps around 75-80°C on load but I needed a GPU-board every year. My luck that I had the full Dell-service for 4 Years.

No doubt! No overclocking and minimal use (once or twice a month). The guy who owned this before me (it was a very kind gift!) had the GPU replaced and SLI wasn't even enabled. And he doesn't even play games! That's crazy.
I had them replaced as soon as I got it, was having the typical problems.
A 3rd party service technician told me the problem is a kin to the xbox RRoD.
If you haven't seen, check out the nvidiadefect site... which also alludes to this.
