3DTV play / 3D Vision query
  1 / 3
Hello everyone, Long time lurker in these forums (6 years), finally decided to take the plunge into 3D. Recently got a decent PC and already have an LG passive 4K 3D TV. I enjoyed playing in 720p 60hz with trial 3DTV play for a couple of weeks and really enjoyed it! My query is: Will I be able to play @1080p 60hz with 3DTV play or 3D Vision? Is it possible? Another issue is that 3D Vision kit sells for approx 260$ in my country and I have no way to purchase 3DTV play in my country. I have gone through the EDID override pages where they say its possible to play @ 4K 60hz, but no info regarding @ 1080p 60 hz (or I missed it). Any help will be appreciated!

With your passive LG 4K TV, no 3D Vision kit is needed (use glasses shipped with TV), and 3DTV Play is NOT needed (3D Vision drivers work directly with TV via Device Manager software override of Monitor driver). This EDID override forces use of native 3840x2160 Desktop resolution (not other display options like 1080p) in most games. However, games using newer versions of 3Dmigoto also support recent game resolution upscaling feature - discussed in other forum threads. Your 1080 GPU should be able to handle 4K resolution in many helixmod.blogspot games, especially older games. By the way, you WILL notice improved game control response when shifting from 24 Hz-based 3DTV Play to 60 Hz EDID override, if you have been using 3DTV Play’s 1080p mode!

You are going to love it, but like all of us, your biggest regret will be that you didn't do it sooner. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1017999/ 3Dmigoto scaling thread Enjoy

Thanks Whyme, I have read many of your helpful posts over the last couple of years! And yes, 24 hz was unplayable (I play mostly FPS). Just a quick clarification - I can see only two resolutions with 3DTV play for 3D - 1080@24hz, 720@60hz. Will 3D vision enable more 3D-resolutions / refresh rate for the TV? D-Man, thanks for pointing to the specific page - I think I missed that! So, 1440p to 4K upscaling sounds sweet, and does it work if I get only 3DTV license?

3D Vision will not work with that TV. Optomized for GeForce outputs Line Interleaved

Oh, that clears things up. Please correct me if I'm wrong - To view 3D in my TV, I WILL need to use 3DTV play (and 3D Vision is only to activate 3DTV play). If that is the case, thank you so much. I almost ordered 3D Vision on Amazon for $260, but decided to clarify things here!

Do NOT use 3DTV Play - just use joker18's latest 4K EDID mod instead (and 3DVisionEye Swapper app). The EDID mod activates NVIDIA driver's Optimized for NIVIDIA GeForce 3D mode instead, enabling 3D Vision games to be played directly - in interlaced display mode.

I'm a bit confused here. **puts 3D Vision back in Amazon cart** I get the part that 3D vision glasses are useless for me and the questions I have been asking are not clear. Now, if I use 3D Vision to play games on my TV, is that in anyway different from using 3DTV play? I'm asking because the prices of 3D Vision have come down from to an all time low yesterday, and if I have to buy one, I'd prefer to order it today and start gaming tomorrow.

Why do I have to say this again? There are existing threads that answer these redundant questions https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/824274/

You can play today, as soon as you install EDID mod. See https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/943900/3d-vision/search-information-about-edid-for-3dvision-on-lg-oled-4k-55ef950v-55ef9500-/post/5069058/#5069058, although some of the steps are not required for LED (non OLED) passive displays. Use EDID from posting #285, same discussion thread (after renaming file to remove .tif extension). With the EDID mod, 3DTV Play will not launch and is not used with 3D Vision modified games...

As stated Optomized for GeForce outputs line Interleaved https://www.nvidia.com/object/optimized-for-geforce-3d-overview.html Also reread post #2, whyme466 specifically stated that neither 3DTV Play, nor the kit are needed and told you what to do. There's no sense in replying, if you are not reading what is written. This should help, W10 should be similar http://3dvision-blog.com/8483-how-to-install-edid-override-inf-monitor-drivers-in-windows-8/

Thanks Whyme for patiently explaining to me what needs to be done. I really appreciate it! D-Man, I did not know what 'Optimized for GeForce' was. TIL that I do not need any thing other than a Nvidia Card + 3D TV to play in 4K TV. I simply did not know what 'Optimized for GeForce' was. The first link you shared in the post above made me realize and understand Whyme's first reply. Please do not be harsh on noobs like me - I'm here for help and if you do not like the question, do not discourage. It might seem obvious to you and other experienced people. But I'm not one of you guys, I've shadowed this forum for 6 years, trying to understand what is going on and when to join. But still a noob when it comes to something which I have only read about without actual experience.

I know we all try to help each other here, but I agreed the explanation was not very clear since it didn't explained to him what each mode was. This is coming from someone who had to go through this process a few months ago. You don't need "3D vision" since this is for monitors with 120hz, nor 3DTVPlay which is for 3DTVs. Basically the only thing you need is an HDMI cable that supports 4k @ 60hz and the EDID Override from Joker. which makes the computer think it is a Passive acer monitor and activates a 3rd mode called "Optimized for Geforce" in your control panel under 3D stereoscopy. If you haven't found the EDID, I can send it to you. Not sure if from your last post you already got this working, but there are threads explaining step by step the whole process.

The majority of "users" here, never try to help anyone with hardware/setup issues and will simply ignore posts for help. Cheers to those that do, but you are not one of them. You've been a "user" since 2011 and how many times have you gone out of your way to help anyone. So, please, keep your criticism to yourself. You of course could have been helpful and gave back for receiving help yourself by linking some of these step by step threads. But yah, that would actually require you to go out of you way.
