Please make Entropia Universe work with 3D Vision
  1 / 2
I spend over 90% of my computer gaming time playing Entropia Universe. I would love to be able to play it in 3D with my 3D vision glasses. I've exhausted options for forcing 3D mode without any success. Please make Entropia Universe a recognized title by GEForce Experience and enable 3D. It is very important to me.

The wiki page for this game says it's using CryEngine 2. That engine was used for Crysis 1 and some other games, but only a Crysis 1 WIP fix was mentioned in 2014. You can try tweaking Entropia using that fix page or use a HelixMod DLL to try to get 3D to start and also disable broken effects.     The game is free, not browser-based, and uses DX9. So whoever looks at this will have to use HelixMod and not 3Dmigoto.

If its DX9, shouldn't 3D kick in automatically?

When I first got the glasses a couple years ago 3D Vision mode would activate when I started Entropia but then it stopped and it hasn't worked for a long time now. I am using Windows 10 running DirectX 12. I am searching for a way to force 3D Vision mode to turn on but no success.

I tried the 64-bit version of game without changing any graphics settings, and the 3D kicked in for both fullscreen and windowed modes. In the starting room, I saw haloing on the player character, and it's probably the same thing for the surrounding environment. Although putting HelixMod in the "bin64" folder crashes the game on startup.     Try each of the following, launching the game after each step, to see if 3D kicks in:
[.]Right-click C:\Program Files (x86)\Entropia Universe\bin64\Entropia.exe and choose "disable fullscreen optimizations" under the Compatibility tab[/.] [.](Re)installing the latest graphics driver (using Display Driver Uninstaller first)[/.] [.]Reinstalling the game:
[.]It looks like the planets data is under C:\ProgramData\entropia universe\public_users_data\dynamic_content, so move that folder somewhere, uninstall the game, then move it back before installing. That should speed up your install[/.][.]Reinstalling will create a default version of C:\ProgramData\entropia universe\public_users_data\settings-ce.cfg before logging in[/.][.]You could create a new account just to see if 3D kicks in with the default PC settings[/.]
[/.]
Try each of the following, launching the game after each step, to see if 3D kicks in:
  • Right-click C:\Program Files (x86)\Entropia Universe\bin64\Entropia.exe and choose "disable fullscreen optimizations" under the Compatibility tab

  • (Re)installing the latest graphics driver (using Display Driver Uninstaller first)

  • Reinstalling the game:
    • It looks like the planets data is under C:\ProgramData\entropia universe\public_users_data\dynamic_content, so move that folder somewhere, uninstall the game, then move it back before installing. That should speed up your install

Ok. I tried full uninstall of Nvidia drivers and reinstalled latest - still could not activate 3D Vision mode in Entropia Uninstalled and reinstalled Entropia - still could not activate 3D Vision mode in Entropia Created new Windows 10 user account, logged in under the new account and ran Entropia - 3D VISION TURNED ON!!! So I can play in 3D now if I use this 2nd Windows account. Ideally I'd like to play in 3D on my main Windows account. Does anyone have any idea of what setting in my user profile could be preventing 3D Vision from turning on in Entropia? PS When I reinstalled Entropia it seemed to keep my settings so the uninstall wasn't a complete purge.

Awesome! Maybe it's a 3D profile or registry setting (nvidia-related?) on the other Windows account. I wouldn't know exactly in this case, but maybe someone else does. It can't be the driver itself now since that would've fixed both Windows accounts. Also it can't be the game settings if they're the same across both Windows accounts.

I might have figured it out. For some reason I had the ClientLoader.exe running in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7. Once I unchecked that, Entropia booted into 3D Mode. Thank you everyone for your help.

Thanks for letting us know, QuickThumb. My comment about this game being unfixable was due to RivaTuner Statistics Server being incompatible with HelixMod. I was able to get it running if I closed RTSS first.

I've tried using Nvidia Inspector profiles to treat Entropia like the game Crysis as mentioned above and it looks good. The haloing is gone but the shadows look to be at the wrong depth (too close), though it is still very playable.

It's a steep learning curve. I've been using mike_ar69 and 4everawake's FEAR 3 fix to help understand it. The profile setting that fixes halos is StereoUseMatrix. I've found what I think is the shadows shader at least. So I'll keep looking at it.
