Any Immersive adventure or space games similar to eve out there that work and look great?

Thanks for the screenies. They do show the starfields remain at the mid field instead of the outermost field. If you measure the vergence between a star and compare that to a distant object in the shot, for instance the end of the space station, the space station has the greater vergence (is further out). To be honest non of your screenies show particulaly distant objects like gates but you can imagine they would be well behind the starfield.

I love X3 mate, horses for courses and all that, it's just I found the starfield too distracting. I also want to warn people because I have had my finger burnt too many times. I hope this is ok. :)

Ahhh! Now I see it. It seems to take a pretty hefty distance for me, though, and I pretty much have to be looking for it.

The HUD display boxes are causing me more grief. It would be a lot nicer of those displayed at object depth than screen depth.

Have you heard of the minimal HUD mod? This removes all the 2D unit icons and boxes around objects except the targeted object. The important outer HUD remains.

X3 is by far the best space game compared to the others but its not Elite 2

I know I have fond memorys of my amiga but what a game! Check this out:

1: Start at a space station orbiting a planet.

2: Fly down to the planet (no cut scenes).

3: Land on the planet!

4: Deploy mining drone.

5:lift off and fly around planet and collect a mission from one of the planet's bases

6: Target the moon you saw above you.

7: Fly to it and land on one of its bases or spacestations

8: Leave and hyperdrive (or whatever) to a different starsystem.

All this on one floppy disk!

Imagine that in 3D...

Double click on your Steam shortcut, make sure Library is selected on the top, Games is selected below that, and X3:TC is selected on the left side. That will show you the game page. The menu on the right side has the link to the manual. I would suggest *not* trying to understand the whole thing right off. Scan through it so you get an idea what's there, read the bits you are curious about right now, and leave the rest for later.

Yep, it's intimidating. Wouldn't be any fun mastering it if it didn't give you a sense of awe, now would it?

I put a whole bunch of hints on my post toward the end of the previous page. And there are tons on the Egosoft website.

Andysonofbob, I missed Elite! It's my biggest regret in gaming. But there is yet hope! Egosoft is making a new, non-X game. If it's Elite 2.... <drool>

Not Elite! We have improved Elite many times. Strip down X3, even X-BTF and you have Elite. Be explicit: ALWAYS QUOTE ELITE 2. Elite 2, dude, even the very buggy Frontier: First Encounters which came after Elite 2 is what we want. Well I do anyway.

There was a game called Battlecruiser 3000 or something. It had everything I wanted: it was Battlestar Galactica, with fighters, shuttles, ATVs and security teams to repel invaders. You could take over controls of a shuttle to pilot your assualt teams to take planetary bases etc etc and etc. It should have been awesome. It was sadly released far too early, clearly in its early beta stage, and consequently made little sense to most people. The complexities of managing the many systems of a mothership like starship was quite bewildering. The version I got main bug was fuel, the fuel consumption was set too high so I had to stop after each gate to replenish my stocks. I didnt know this was a bug until, much later, I heard how bugged the game was. It was fixed with a patch but I never played it again because it felt wrong.

X3 logistics, with physical planetary systems with bodies you can land on. That would be cool as!

Well I guess I'm too late to save the OP here, but I would have recommended staying far away from X3. My experience with X3 (note, not Terran Conflict, I'm not sure how much has changed) is that it was a horrible space combat shooter paired with a very realistic and complex trading/production system. At first, this sounds ok. So what if combat is subpar if I can own and operate a bunch of space stations!?

Unfortunately you soon realize that the realistic scale of the game means it will be weeks, as another poster here pointed out, before you can do such a thing. And not "game" weeks, or weeks of playing a few hours here and there. No, literally real life weeks of game time. As another pointer pointed out, you will frequently get stuck and frustrated and need to consult the forums. A properly designed single player game should not require this, but I was willing to give it shot anyway. However, when I consulted the forums on this issue, I found an avalanche of responses on the topic about how players turn on time compression and then just leave their computers running over night and while they go to work/class for the day. But make sure you fly to the absolute corner of the bounding box for the sector to minimize the chance you will be attacked and destroyed or experience some other event that would pull you out of time compression.

Any single player game that requires this sort of "cheating" just to be fun isn't worth your time. If you want to spend time building something in a game, find a good MMO and join a guild where your accomplishments might actually mean something or be valued by someone. Better yet, stick to games for entertainment and do your building and working in the real world.
