Hej, weren't you that guy that was also VERY active at the Nvidia 3D Support thread over there? (My name is pipotheclown over there).
I'm very interested on how you plan to get in contact with mr. levine!
Yep, that was me :-) I read one of the mods very strong anti 3D posts and took it as my mission to show flaws in his logic, or if nothing else, beat him into submission with big walls of text. Not sure if it worked, but he seemed pretty open to trying 3D by the end of it (friendly even in PM messages).
As for my tactics, I haven't thought that far ahead, but maybe with the help of guys on here. Will involve messaging tech sites (IGN, Gamespot etc.) ig forums and maybe even BBC tech site. I think the story of helix and his fixes, then the story of Ken Levine (if it happens) commenting on how amazing the 3D looks and how this is the way it was meant to be played could be news worthy for lower tabloids such as Daily Mail or the Sun of the UK.
It's a high goal. But one small article in the tech section of any tabloid online website could be a huge boon to the 3D community.. But with such a high profile 'art' game that was reviewed highly by every mainstream tabloid (which is very rare for video games) could be worth a punt. If i succeed, it would be a small thank you to the community. If not... Would be fun trying. I'm sure Ken would be interested in the full fix though, this is his baby and he clearly loves his games.
EDIT: bob3D, your idea is a definite back up plan. Problem is getting his home address, and i bet his office address is spam checked. Still, i think it could be a good tactic. If anyone else has any ideas, however crazy, post the or PM me, as i feel i might be cornering myself into really having to give this a damned good shot!

We could also setup a small kickstarter campaign: a ASUS VG278H for mr Ken Levine (600$ including shipping cost) and send that to IG, with a letter with installation instructions:
1. set depth to 100 procent
2. intall helix mod
etc.
Well, if that wouldn't rise some attentention over there, what will?

Another ingenious idea, and that one almost certainly WOULD get news attention from all angles. I like your thinking.
And eqzitara, to be honest that sounds great. If we were to do a full on multi-aspect assault, we would seem crazy. That alone could be news worthy material. Even if the kick-starter campaign was set up as a mock up...
When the full patch is put, if you can get OR running it without to much hassle, please please do it. The more fireworks we have, the better the display ;-)
I can convert to oculus rift format which he does have.
Yeah, but the 3D on the OR is not very impressive (I think?).
And will he be able to play the game or just see a video?

If we do this, whe should really carefully coordinate our actions!

Yea but no offense I think my choice is more realistic. They have 3D equipment, dont forget they did that shitty job on BS 1/2.
3D effect can be comparable to 3D vision, developers just go "light" on the 3D effect. This was tested. There are no adjustments allowed as far as games I've tested on Rift in depth/convergence but it is possible to output a strong 3D image.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE2amYfOFnQ
Maybe bo3b will test it and let me know what he thinks. The above video was excessive, I was just testing limits. I went with mirror's edge because thats the game I tend to go highest on convergence/depth.
Its surprisingly simple to convert a video to rift. Just an extra 2 steps but simple. Im kind of surprised I was only person to try it.

I'm not sure what you mean: can you play it, or see a movie?
If the last is the case: playing is way more impressive than watching a clip.
And about being realistic:
Well, within 5 days I'll receive my 300+ dollars for the IGG campaign.
I see a new purpose for it here :-)

Your idea is great Eqzitara, but it involves getting Ken to try it on his Oculus. Might be easy, but we may never know the response.
Schmelzter's idea is sensationalist. Its show play. That's why I think it serves much better for the media. It doesn't matter if the goal of the kickstarter is raised. All that matters is, it is there. That will draw media attention on at least blogs and smaller supplements. I have seen far smaller things appear on mainstream news websites on slow news days.
My goals are
- get positive comment from Ken Levine
- Raise awareness of 3D and the amazing (free) work from Helix
- get press coverage, even if it's online only.
And I am very serious about a co-ordinated attack, with anyone and everyone who want's to be involved. But only when the mod is ready. This is, the planning stage... (Puts hands together, thinking darkly over all those 3D naysayers.... mwah hah hah hah)
I suppose, but my main point is... they have a 3d monitor. Bioshock 1/2.
How do you know? The 3D on b1 and 2 was, well crap?
And even if they do: a small 3D community send him a brand new 3D Vision 2 monitor plus fix and instruction how to play his "child" in crisp 3D... That alone will raise attention over at IG (and we might get a response). And to me that onlone is worth it.

Shhh... If we act like they don't have a 3D monitor, the kick-starter has so much more weight, thats the news angle.
Kens angle is your oculus rift ready version of Helix's fix
This will all be wrapped up in the warm, fuzzy good will nature of Helix's free fixes, and a community that is co-operating with each other. So a sensationalist story wrapped up in a feel good haze.
If we manage to get an official response from Ken Levine, the repercussions could be huge. He spent years trying to get this game published. He knew what he wanted and wouldn't back down. If he could be shown Columbia in stereo, with enough impact to his positive enjoyment, it could secure that his next game is 3D. Considering that he is one of a select few well known video game creative directors, this could have a profund effect on the landscape of future games.
Small ripples cause the greatest of waves... Lofty goals, but I hope anyone reading can see there is logic and realistic outcomes.

Nvidia sends a 3d display to "sponsored" game developers or at least did at the time.
*Shrug* Guys can do whatever you want. Im not big on anyone spending money but do what you feel is right I guess. I'd rather you try to contact some PR at 2Kgames/Irrational first however. If you do I will include 3D videos in multiple formats unless some one else wants to. I was planning to before this regardless. Probably a good idea that anyone with any 3D media device can be capable of watching it. 3DS/ Rift/ tv/ monitor etc. [I need to look into 3DS . Ironically I bet quality is on par with Rift. I just prob. need to record at low FOV/depth as opposed to rift]
Just throwing money at the problem will not solve anything, if its not planned well regardless. Also... make sure its not set for factory default settings.....
