I own the XL2420TX and I'm curious to hear about your impressions after you bought the PG278QR (not PG278Q).
Does 92 DPI to 109 DPI made a difference? How does 3D comapre between both? What about ghosting? I understand this is subjective and depends on contrast settings and all but that should give me an idea nonetheless.
Thanks!

I went from an XL2720T to the PG278QR and I'm quite pleased with it. Other than some ugly backlight bleed in the middle when the screen is just blank. I went through two PG278Q's to find out that it's just the ways these monitors are. Make sure you get the warranty or whatever on it if you get it.
Of course, the higher resolution is going to kill your fps a fair bit from 1080p to 1440p. Maybe it's placebo but I don't think so. But the visual quality does seem a lot crisper. And the color of the PG278QR is pretty darn good out of the box. I haven't really changed any color settings, just brightness, and contrast to how I like it.
Ghosting is more noticeable on this model out of the box. The Benq had very minimal ghosting for me. Perhaps I was just lucky. But with ASUS model, I found I just messed with the monitor settings and was able to minimize ghosting to a tolerable level. That, along with convergence, and I'm quite happy with the little amount of ghosting that I've achieved. Overall, the 3D experience is quite enjoyable with the Asus.
All in all, I'm very happy with this monitor. It does have its quirks. For example, sometimes I get an invisible line from top to bottom that makes the screen overlap a tiny bit. But just turning the monitor off and on fixes it and it doesn't happen very often. And having G-Sync in 2d mode is a really nice feature especially if I'm playing battlefield or R6 siege type games. I don't think I notice much of a difference between 144Hz and 165Hz, but it's one of those little things that just added to the appeal of this monitor for me.
Would I recommend it to someone? Sure! But it cost me an arm and a leg. It's way over priced IMO. But I had the money to burn. It did take me time to get used to the higher res in day to day stuff, like browsing, email etc. I'm used to it now.
Does that help at all? I've just woken up and started on my second coffee. So if this makes no sense, I blame it on the fact I'm still groggy. ;)

wow this is interesting because what I've read so far was that this monitor was excellent in every aspect, with less ghosting than monitors a few years ago but it wasn't compared to the XL2420 series. And now you tell me ghosting is a bit worse out of the box but can be adjusted to be tolerable so I take it you were able to get similar ghosting level to the BenQ. This mean there is nothing to gain about ghosting here.
Also read that bleeding was better than the previous PG278Q so had high hope this wasn't an issue anymore.
Colors were wrong on the BenQ but a profile fixed this in no time. Glad the Swift comes with great colors out of the box.
Since I game 90% of the time in 3D, not sure G-Sync would serve me but it's built-in so nothing I can do here...
I was ready to move from 24 to 27 but with a higher resolution because I didn't want bigger pixels than what I have now so 1440p on a 27 seems logical to me and I'm glad everything looks even a bit crisper.
The BenQ have a feature to display smaller resolutions as 1:1 with black all around, I was not able to find if the Swift can also do this so I guess it does not? I ask because if for some reason a game is too slow in 1440p I would like the option to drop to 1080p but without scaling up to full screen, I would prefer the option of 1:1 1080p with black borders. That way I would be able to select if I prefer with or without scaling.
Thanks!
Hope to read more inputs in the coming days/weeks...

For Crosstalk (Ghosting), only one way to know how bad it is and set the screen for the better 3D available: Do the Rabbit test and share it for us to compare screens. I realy don't get why nobody share this here.
