Metro 2033 + GTX 580 DX11 3D Vision issue GPU 263.09 / 3D Vision 262.99
Hi guys!

Here is my hardware config:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2,5 GHz
4 Gb Kingston KVR RAM
Gigabyte DQ6 Intel X38 chipset MB
Gainward GeForce GTX 580 GS (upgraded from Leadtek GeForce GTX 280 few day ago)
nVidia 3D Vision
Windows 7 x86
Drivers are: GPU 263.09 / 3D Vision 262.99

Problem: When I'm trying to run the subj game with 3D vision Enabled by default in the nVidia CP and using DX11 - it freezes. Always at the same place, after loading screen. I even made a clean install of Windows 7. Thought it was some upgrading and driver changing issue. Nope. Nothing changed.

Now, I have some statistics about running Metro 2033 + 3D vision on GTX 580, here it is:

3D Vision on by default + DX9 = runs great.
3D Vision on by default + DX10 = freezes.
3D Vision on by default + DX11 = freezes.
3D Vision with hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts option + DX9 + turning on 3D vision by hotkey (Ctrl+T by default) = runs great.
3D Vision with hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts option + DX10 + turning on 3D vision by hotkey (Ctrl+T by default) = runs great, but when game is trying to change level it freezes again after the loading screen.
3D Vision with hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts option + DX11 + turning on 3D vision by hotkey (Ctrl+T by default) = runs great, but when game is trying to change level it freezes again after the loading screen.

Other games runs as usual with no any problems with 3D vision.

Does anybody have any thoughts about how to solve this problem? So far, I can play only 1 level in 3D, then after loading screen the game will freeze again. ))))

Thank you for your answers,
best regards,
Denis.

Just turn "Advanced Depth of field" OFF in "options/video/DX11 options" and it should work. Had the demo running yesterday and everything was fine.

I forgot to say that both DOF and Tesselation were turned off. Anyway, thanks for your answer...

Problem solved. It was Gainward's WRONG factory overclocking. The default clock of my "Golden Sample" should be 805 / 4200 / 1610, but they are 835 / 4200 / 1670.
Moving down the clocks to the reference values posted on Gainward's site solved my issue. And I think that they should tweak their BIOS for more agressive cooling and Fan speed management, because when I moved up fan speed to MAX, my card easyly run all the stuff absolutely stable. It seems to be overheating problem... But, can someone tell my why this problem occur only in stereoscopic mode and only with Metro 2033? =)

maybe because thats the only game that can really push the card to its limits?
it is quite taxing to run it without 3d vision and with it ads 20-50% strain (depending on a game, dont know how big performance hit is on Metro)

Helby, What temps on your 580 in metro2033 and other games? Stock cooler good enough for you? I'm curious since I want to get a 580 too.

Partol, 87 Celsius. 1920x1080. All options are set to High, DOF=off, Tesselation=off. DX11+3D Vision.

Wow. 87C is high for a gtx580. metro2033 draws serious power.

I think that the cooling algorithm should be different and much more agressive, because even when you play metro2033 in HD resolution with all options set to Hight using your 3D vision - stock cooler is VERY quiet. That's a mistake, imho. Anyway, it's possible to change all the "Perfomance" parameters including cooling algorithm thru nVidia CP.
