Well, almost two years later and no progress on this issue, eh. I've sent another support request to NVidia, as they seen to ignore this thread. My message below. I'll inform you all if anything comes of it. Not holding my breath, though...

Anyone trying to decide whether or not to buy 3D Vision should do so knowing that it is a gamble on whether you are one of the lucky ones with a system that has timing within the NVidia specifications. If not, you'll just have to live with it, apparently.

Email to support:
I first contacted you almost 2 years ago about this issue, and I have been following this thread in your forums about this issue, which is still active (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=89261&st=0). I have yet to receive any hint of resolution of the issue.

I do not get 3d effects at the top 20% of my screen. In other words, I see both the left and right screens in both eyes of the glasses at the top of the screen, but only the left/right screen in the left/right eye for the rest, with a small transition area between them. The rest of the screen is great, with full 3D effect. There are many good example pictures of this in the forum, photographed through the glasses.

This is NOT contrast ghosting. It is NOT a fault of the monitor (other than possibly having timing off from the whatever value NVidia assumes). It is due to a lack of synchronization between the glasses and the monitor. Is it possible to include a slider bar to tweak the sync? Or any way for the user to fine tune the timing? If not, why? This issue has been present since the introduction of 3D Vision and has not gone away. Please explain why this is so. I expect more from NVidia.
Not surprisingly, I have yet to hear anything from NVidia. But as suggested on this forum by another frustrated user, I found an old USB hub and connected through that. The problem are has now moved up a good 10%, so it's now at least usable, which is quite excited. Thanks, Valrond!!

Once again this proves there is nothing wrong with either the monitor or the 3D Vision, only with the assumptions that have gone into writing the drivers. Not all systems will have the same timing!!! Now if only one of you other frustrated users could rewrite the driver with timing controls.

I would be great if someone from NVidia could chime in here... It's been awhile, eh!

I have only had 3D Vision for a couple of weeks and last night noticed, while starting up a new game of Fallout:NV, that the upper portion of the screen is also having the double image effect. I have been playing Trine and RE:5 and never noticed/have not seen this before. I went through most of the 18 pages here and haven't really seen any fixes for this. But noted that it is NOT the glasses or the drivers but it is indeed the monitor that is causing the issue. I have the ASUS VG236H 3D monitor, does anyone else have this ghosting issue with this monitor, if so what are were some adjustments done to help minimize this problem? Thanks!

This is indeed caused by the monitor. Though it's the drivers fault that it happens after what i have read in this thread. It's about the timing between the screen and the 3D Vision glasses. So it is caused by the driver, that's why everyone want's a sort of timer, so they can time their monitor to correctly respond with the glasses :) Correct me if im wrong !

I just got my 2233RZ monitor with GTX 580 and its after i used a 3D TV with 5850 card and DDD drivers.
I had no ghosting on 3D TV, not with console games and not with PC games (Unless i crank up the separation to unreasonable)

I was surprised to see ghosting on true 120Hz panel.

As everyone i have no 3D on the upper part of the 2233RZ.

I found a sort of ghetto solution how you can enjoy your PC games without ANY ghosting.
The solution is actually VERY simple, you need to disable scaling in your video card and monitor and use lower resolution.
This way you will have a black border in the upper and bottom part of the screen.
You will have less screen space to play on, but at least it will be clean and if you have 24Inch monitor then you will get a fully working 22inch monitor.
22inch monitor will be more like 19 inch

Unfortunatelly, I had to return the Asus VG236H. The USB 1.1 solved the double image in the top of the monitor, but now I had a lot of ghosting everywhere. Before, I had the double image in the top 20% of the screen, but there was barely any ghosting on the rest of the screen. After that, even if it was better, cause I had 3D in the whole screen, the ghosting was too much for me and I returned it. Now what can I get that has minimal ghosting in my system?

Hi Dan,
There is no way you can fix this. The problem is with the LCD technology. If you want free ghosting experience you need to buy a 3D DLP TV (i.e from Mitsubishi).
The drawbacks of the DLP TVs is that they are kind of big, their viewing angles are not so good.
But they are the best for 3D.
Next you can try Plasma TVs. Slight ghosting (I would go for Panasonic, or Sony)
Next you can try 3D DLP projectors (from Acer or Optoma).
Every other screens that are based on LCD or LED technology are a complete failure.
If we all knew the 3D tech is crappy from the beginning we wouldn't waste our money.
But ... since the beginning we were lab mouses ...
Oh...and remember 3D Vision or 3D capable monitors or TVs .... means they struggle to give you a 3D image :)
P.S. I would sue every company that said their TVs or monitors are 3D capable, but they have ghosting or other artifacts.
THIS IS NOT 3D. THIS IS WASTING OUR MONEY. TEST YOUR FREAKING PRODUCTS BEFORE RELEASING THEM. STOP RATING CRAP PRODUCTS WITH 3D CAPABLE WHEN YOU CAN'T WATCH 5 MINUTES TO IT. I WOULD GET EVERY GUY FROM QUALITY CHECK FROM EVERY COMPANY AND MAKE THEM WATCH 1 HOUR OF VIDEO OR GAME CONTENT TO THEIR OWN PRODUCT WITH FREAKING ARTIFACTS AND MAKE THEM BUY 1 AFTER THAT .... I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THAT.

Sorry for the caps but everything I wrote with caps must be seen by all product manufacturers.

I think bad journalism is to blame, slim displays and resolution are terribly overrated.
And bad journalism is at it again , with autostereo, and 3d glasses FUD...
FAIL...

laserDLP is coming along nicely though, future is bright now. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Journalism...bad reviewers...bad quality checks from manufacturers that is what it is...
They all point to the WOW factor (3D in this case) but they haven't even seen it.
Also I can't even believe how many people have been fouled by this crappy screens.
Anyway I have learned my lesson:

I will never buy a new technology unless I see it and it has at least 1 month moneyback waranty :)

I truely think that the top of screen ghosting issue is worse for some users than others and that's probably why (even with this huge thread) more users aren't coming forth (reviewers included) and complaining. I've seen some users reporting 1-2cm of top of screen ghosting whereas mine was an unbearable 9-11cm.

Lot of people seems to have ghosting issues /wacko.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> well im one of them.. or at least used to be.
I also had top of the screen ghosting (maybe 10-15% of the screen). It wasnt bad as some of the pictures iv seen,
and it didnt actually disturb me too much (well some games with "bad" engines are still a mess).. adjusting colour settings and some tweaking in displays factory
settings menu did help..but then something very strange happened.

I plugged in my girlfriends usb audio laptop speakers and upgraded new graphics/ 3d vision drivers and
BLAM /fear.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fear:' /> next time i used 3d vision ghosting was almost completly gone! Well thats not eaven the strange part.. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />
seems that always when i remove usb speakers ghosting comes back. I tried my usb headphones.. it doesnt
matter if they are connected but soon as i set them to default sound device ghosting comes back.. /blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
So at least for me this seems to be a timing issue with the classes. I always thought that it was display that couldnt keep up..

Any explanations for this? /blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> it could be some kind of driver issue but its pretty strange one..

Sry about bad english.. its not my native language ;P

*edit*

Btw other usb devices dont effect my ghosting.. and seems that i can use my headphones also if i use extra usb hub in usb speakers.. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />
Haha i tried pretty much everything (well no i didint make my own irs emiter) and nothing worked eaven half as good!
I just tried watching avatar and it had 90% time so little ghosting that its hard to eaven notice!

Some-one knows whats going on!?

It's always been totally possible, given the proper tool (thanks, Nvidia), that if you could adjust the latency of the glasses timings you could shift the area of ghosting, perhaps even enough to remove it entirely. unfortunately we don't have that tool.

The effect you are describing sounds like a workaround to the effect of what we have been waiting for from nvidia: custom timing.

Sounds like the USB device takes a high priority and other USB devices are delayed, meaning the IR device USB service is being queued with a comparatively lower CPU priority, getting out of its intended normal sync - which, in this case, delays the signal for the glasses, catching the next frame perfectly (by chance). I know that the OS kernel sees each USB port as a separate entity and can allocate resources and cpu priority according to a devices needs.

If someone could figure out a way to recreate this delay of service to the USB port that the IR device is connected to then perhaps we can find a fix for this issue.
Perhaps a global adjustment of USB Latency?

Could you be more specific of these speakers you are using, dude?

Cheers!

and it didnt actually disturb me too much (well some games with "bad" engines are still a mess).. adjusting colour settings and some tweaking in displays factory

settings menu did help..but then something very strange happened.

Specs: Acer GD245HQ

1055t @ 4ghz

gtx 480 @ 805/1610/2100

750w power

asus M4A89GTD-PRO

win 7 ultimate 64 bit

266.58 drivers+ newest usb/3d vision drivers

Cheers!

Seems to be Logitech usb hub speakers. Audio hub.. Model s-00041.. Hope that helps..

Yep.. also different motherboards seem to have more/less ghosting than others. Changing glasses latency
with proper softhware shouldnt be too hard to handle. Im pretty sure Nvidia COULD do that.

Btw its strange that i dont notice any change if i change refresh rate to 110hz or 100hz..

*edit* Well it seems actually make ghosting worse not much but still..

Hello Guys i am new to 3d world and me, as many people here, suffered from top of the screen ghosting but 'accidentaly' is being solved for me.
first i would like to post my configuration.

AMD T1100 x6
ASUS GTX580
ACER GD245HQ
ASROCK 870iCAFE
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 2x4Gb
XFi Platinum Champion Fatality
NVidia 3D Vision (With Avatar Witch i could never Download (but that is another story /smile2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':))' />

I use this configutarion for about a month now, and from the start i had the top 4cm of my screen doubled as you have described here many of you, so i will not go into details. But i was almost ready to return the kit and monitor When This Hppened:
A week ago i buy a WD Pasport 1TB USB3 but my board did not had Usb3 so I also Bought the ASROCK USB3 PCIe1x card that gives 2 USB3 Ports bacwards compatible with USB2.
After reading the USB speakers workaround from a friend above it occured to me to connect the IR emiter on this Card.
TO MY AMASEMENT ALL TOP OF THE SCREEN GHOSTING HAS GONE exept of course the bright areas isue wich also is minimal and bearly noticable now.

So i belive that it is not a monitor or glasses isue but as a friend told above a USB sync isue. So maybe USB seperate drivers not the windows built are needed or even a separate usb controler on PCIe Or PCI to dedicately work for the 3d vision emiter.

I am happy for this I hope it will help you or Nvidia somehow. IT IS TOTALY A USB sync PROBLEM and my case Show it clearly.

Yea, I think it's a USB sync problem. Just plug a webcam to usb port side by side with nvision emiter on the motherboard. Turn on the webcam and start the game, YEEAHHHHH bye-bye /w00twave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00twave:' /> ghosting problem. I use webcam because this thing don't use much power source from CPU, MEM or VGA and I think everybody have a webcam. Just try it /happy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ....

sorry my english very bad /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
