They now say 3D Blu-Ray won't be coming to PS3 this summer. Just games for now I guess...
Hearing this makes me feel bad for the people who bought 3dtvs' lol. By next year there will have been a 3dtv 2.0 released and 3dtv 3.0. Plus all the add-backs (that is my word-reintroducing features like usb, internet, wifi, kitchensink then selling it likes its a revolutionary first). You will still be able to play the games though...............i wonder if we could use our exsisting hardware with the ps3..........hhhhmmmmmm

I swear to god, this is exactly why I went cheap for 3D for now. Even after HDMI's official 3D standard, Sony's official support, and TVs and movies hitting stores, it's still all confusing as hell. I wonder if Sony is backing down on 3D support since Fox is holding Avatar 3D Blu-Ray for a TBD release date (next year). 2010 ain't the year for 3D, thats becoming quite apparent.

well it aint a big suprise from sony, they done this to the ps3 about 60 times before its release date minus a few things they said would be on it but never arrived.
Its all down to money, at first they said hdmi 1.3c would be fine for 3d blu-ray players and for 3d tvs. Sony even released a 3d player that is hdmi 1.3x.
I think foxs decision to hold back 3d avatar has hit 3d blu-ray hard and i mean veryhar, people have cancelled preorders of 3d hardware because of this. What is the point buying the tech when the main movie people wanted is not going to be released, they may as well just wait for the 3d hardware to advance another year and get better hardware and avatar.
I just hope that the whispers are not true about samsung and panasonic wanting exclusive rights to package avatar with a 3d blu-ray player and tv for 6 months before general release to the public.

this should work with current dlp link pj's but you will need the glasses /play_ball.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':playball:' />
hdmi 1.4 is for 1080p 120hz its like dual link dvi, for 720p 120hz signal hdmi 1.3 should be fine
i remember them saying hdmi 1.1 cant handle 1080p but whean 1080p came out it did work :">
sony lie too much how else would they sell those tv's lol

Not exactly.
Hdmi 1.3 and 1.4 both have the same video bandwidth, they can both technically support stereo1080p 60fps (shutter @120Hz), the only difference between 1.3 and 1.4 are the protocols that announce to the TV that the pictures will be 3D and in what form the left/right pictures will be transmitted. This is why the PS3 which only has hdmi 1.3 outputs can be firmware upgraded to support the 3D features of hdmi 1.4.
There is a problem however : support for this resolution (stereo 1080p 60fps) is not specified as mandatory, which means that device manufacturers can claim they have hdmi1.3 or 1.4 devices even if they do not support this resolution at all.

Seems like older games that run 1080p or 60 FPS will be converted to 3D easily...by halving the res/frame rate. How many PS3 games are running at 1080p? and 60 fps?

That was an interesting read... Kinda bummed about PS3D now though... It sounds like they are making a lot of compromises to make it work yet still expect you to pay big bucks for the equipment to play it on.
On a side note, the comments under that article are just sad. So much misinformation and confusion. It's going to be a miracle if 3D can take off if some internet nerds can't even grasp it.
