TFT and 3d problem
  2 / 2
Yeah man, i was really dissapointed.

So much so that I went out and bought a real one. That was crappy too, so i decided to build one, for my final year uni project. It turned out that using a simple electronic compass and gravitational sensor, i cold do better than the either 2, and guess how much the compopents cost? £50, albeit, it needed 17 pages of low level assembly programming to work decent :)

If you are really interested in stereo, I would suggest that you try with anaglyph glasses. If you KNOW that you will like it, get yourself a z800 for christmas/birthday - good excuse for the wife ;)

It has an "amazingly accurate" head tracker built in it, and apparently you will be blown away.

I used to have the i-Glasses SVGA 3D headset, when it worked without problems, i was very happy with it. Some of my most surreal memories are from what I have been gaming with it on.

It is a little steep, around $800, but as VR headsets go, its the cheapest and best one that has even been on the market.

I will be getting one as soon as I can.

Don't despair . The Edimensional glasses work fine with LCD monitor. You need to load the special Edimensional stereo drivers that come with the glasses, and *DIsable* the NVidea stero drivers.

You will then see the Edimensional drivers Icon in your system tray and select LCD 1.

I don't have them loaded so I can't talk you through it.

The catch is with running th eEdimensional drivers on the LCD is that they only work in interlaced mode , so you see a darker picture with many fine horizontal lines and reduced therefeore to half normal resolution in the vertical.

The othere catch is that you _must_ run your LCD monitor in native screen resolution, so in my case my frame rate was very poor at 1024 X 1280 in stereo. For this reason my Edimensional glasses are gathering dust..

He has already done all this apparently and says there is too much ghosting, and no 3D. Everyone who had tried TFTs with EDs glasses said that this "problem" was a hallmark of the setup, and they gave up.

He said he gets ghosting and flicker, so i gather that its not that he can't get it to work, its that the quality is so poor with a TFT and ED's so called TFT driver, that its classed as "Not Working"

Yet another person falls vistim to ED's false advertising.

I have said it before and I will say it again. eDimensional DOES NOT "support" TFT and DOES NOT work with ATi cards. Don't Believe what ED tell you in their advertising. Like too many companies, through false hope, they aim to pocket your money.

"Support" is when something works with atleast 50% of the product's intended use.

On most TFTs (especially the older ones) and even the new ones with 8ms refresh times, the ghosting and quality is so bad that it can't be classed as "working".

As for ATi, VERY FEW games actually work, if at all, and the frame rates are piss poor. Comparing with nVidia, MOST games can be got to work with some tweaking and the frame rates are pretty good.

I wish people would read these boards before going out and buying something that they will not get to work, and then being put of Stereo3D for good.

Well Done ED, with your false advertising, you have just convinced another person to never try stereo again
Hope that few bucks proffit you made from the glasses was worth it. Oh wait, he's returning them to get his money back.

All you proffiteering gluttonous companies make me sick /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Do you even remember back a few years when you used to be the good guys? Just what the hell happened to that? /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

Why can'r you just advertise like it is. "You need a good CRT monitor for our product to work best. Athough TFT mode is somewhat supported, the quality comparing to CRT is poor. ATi cards do work on some games, but we would highly recomend an nVidia card for the best experience. We are continously working to resolve both issues with TFT quality and ATi card support."

Tell me then, what is better? Putting this statement up with your advertising, and having the respect of the entire 3D community, but losing a few sales. Or trumpeting "we support ATi AND nVidia, and it works on TFTs", gaining a few sales, having disgruntled users returning your products left right and center, and ofcourse, the entire 3D comunity spitting everytime your company name is mentioned in a post.

If the answer is the latter, then the captain of your brainship clearly needs replacing.

Right on Ragedemon, after a long search around(as you said)and many hours of tinkering even going into the registry to change settings these glasses were not what they seem,i agree the ads were very misleading and my time was wasted,i am still going to go with your option and try glasses with the tints in them(gorgot the name :'( ).
Ive read alot of posts from stereovision which you post on and i wish i looked BEFORE i got them.Im one of those people who prefer to tinker instead playing the games but it got to the stage that it wasnt going to happen.
Lesson learned i think /geek.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geek:' /> (thats me with the glsses on.
Regard,
David

In fact the ED glasses is not a bad product at all:

not so expensive,
easy hardware setup,
easy battery replacments (wireless),
easy to configure (in the right conditions),
comfortable,
great gaming experience.

If just they use the right advertising, there would be more users of 3D stereo.

We sort of opened this up to soap-box discussions (which I really like, btw), so I'll just say that when I finally did use the ED glasses on my CRT, I was blown away. And then I just HAD to tinker with everything that was 3D related (within a budget of course). But it took a good first impression for me to become passionate enough about the technology.

My point being, if the general public is ever going to beleive that 3D is ready, they should never, ever, ever be exposed to what e-Dimensional's TFT monitor setup looks like. Consumers rely on first impressions.

I think what it's really going to take is Star Wars in 3D at the local IMAX. It'll generate enough publicity that all of the major studios will say, "OK, so how do we get that into their living rooms?" Then when everyone's finished fighting over standards, content will finally emerge. But until then, it feels good to know of something that almost no one else knows about, huh?
