3D Vision driver support for Passive interlaced LG 3D Cinema TV
1 / 3
Hi,
I have an LG 3D Cinema TV which uses Passive row interlaced technology.
I have the latest Nvidia graphics drivers however tho options given to me when trying to enable 3D Vision do not support the passive row-interlaced mode, the only 3D I can enable for gaming is the red/blue.
Please can you advise as to if nvidia are planning to add support for the Passive LD 3D cinema TV's to the driver.

Paul,
As far as I know (which isn't much :P), with your Cinema 3D TV you can achieve 3d in a manner of ways (depending on the tv model):
1- Nvidia 3dtv play right out-of-the-box (limited to 1080p24hz or 720p60hz);
2- 3d vision frame skipping 1080p30hz (ok) or checkerboard 1080p60hz (unusable due to colorbug on passive LG's) with a modified tv edid - nvision IR emitter required;
3- interleaved 3d with another modified tv edid (but has colorbug on lg 32lw5700 model).
Well, this is my experience with my LG Cinema 3D 32'' lw5700.

theoricaly the 3d driver for nvidia already suport this mode but they still dont suport officialy lg screens...
you can use 3d tv play with (or) a eeid overide because they are still not fully suported in 3dtv play or 3d vision sinse nvidia take realy a long time to add tv/monitor compatibility.
im using myself a lg screen d2342-pn and it is verry good screen, but not enof supported by nvidia for the moment.

An EDID override won't do anything because 3DTV Play is strictly framepacking. For LG passive users, there's no way to get satisfactory 3D gaming with either 3D Vision or 3DTV Play. Only choices are Mits, LG active, samsung.

Roller11, you mention lg active, have you any workings with a lg active?, they allso have the colourbug in checkerboard /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />, tested by me on a 50pz550 lg active plasma, was wondering if you had tested one as working with no colourbug?
Tomoz i will be getting a toshiba passive, will be nice to know if that has a colourbug in interleaved aswell for us uk users.

mocca,
68mustang tells me in PM that CB mode "works" on his 60PZ550. I assume that means he gets a defect free image. I have PM him to clarify his statement. I'll update when/if I get a response.

Ta
uk pz550 plasma had colourghosting in checkerboard with or without the edid mod using a nvidia gtx470.
This is the plasma i had....
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/lg-50pz550t-50-full-hd-plasma-3d-tv-10096292-pdt.html
I have sold my lg now and have gotten a toshiba passive of same size and i now have perfectly working interleaved 3d with no colourbug and no edid mods ect, it just works like it should.
From info i have recieved there are 2 types of problems with lg 3dtv's that span different parts of the world
There is a difference between a lg 5600 passive and a lg 560 passive, if you look on the usa website and uk website you will see the same tv's but with different model numbers.
The models on the usa website have no colourbug in interleaved, just need to change sharpness settings to fix the clear ghosting.
The models on the uk website need a edid fix for working interleaved with a nvidia card but works ok with ati apart from the clear ghosting which is fixed with sharpness as usuall.
Can you please find out where in the world he is if you can and if he has a model that is sold in the uk or has same name as a uk model and what gfx card he is using, this is valuable info..

Nvidia doesn't support interleaved so this is of no interest. We need checkerboard with no colorbug.

Hi,
It may be of no interest to you as you do'nt know what i know lol
3dvision does support interleaved 1080p/60hz if you own a zalman certified 3dvision monitor and it is free as nvidia must have a deal with zalman, plug in your zalman and you have a new 3d option for 3dvision, ALL YOU NEED is the monitor, no 3dvision kit needed.

Compatibility is always going to be a big factor with 3D, and with the Zalman a lot depends on your graphics card. Nvidia owners can use that firm’s stereoscopic 3D driver: the list of supported games is huge, and the driver advises on the graphical settings to change for the best results on a game-by-game basis. A simple depth slider makes adjusting the 3D level easy, and for recent titles the effect is often superb – crawling through the jungles of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 shows off the 3D effect in all its glory. Older titles are a little hit-and-miss, with Crysis in particular showing a few too many graphical glitches to be truly immersive, but few games proved unplayable.
Those without an Nvidia card aren’t so lucky. ATI owners will need to purchase a £21 exc VAT stereoscopic driver from 3D monitor firm iZ3D, and although a huge list of games is supported, we had real problems getting the effect to look right in most we tried. Even with the setup wizard and preloaded game profiles, using the numeric keypad to adjust both the separation and convergence levels to suit each game proved tiresome, and not always successful. Compared to the automated immediacy of the Nvidia driver it’s like handing you a spanner and smearing you in grease – there’s just too much manual jiggery-pokery involved.

So, instead of gaming on a full size display in native resolution, one can game on a teeny tiny little bitty monitor in native resolution. Wow, what a deal! Wait a second, we already have that on any number of 3D ready monitors. It's called frame sequential 2x1920x1080 per frame. That's twice the number of pixels per frame as interleaved.
Sounds like you're really on to something, mocca.

I'm still waiting for SBS (Top/Down).
After half an year, now I'm glad that I found the first game that supports this mode.
Two Worlds II with native 1080p and 60 Hz looks incredible.
But there waiting a bunch of games on my desktop to be played with that mode(DeusEx, Witcher II, LasVegas ...).
Btw. lineinterleave will occure some problems with LG in 2D mode, because they do some postprocessing effects that merges the lines.

1- Nvidia 3dtv play right out-of-the-box (limited to 1080p24hz or 720p60hz);
2- 3d vision frame skipping 1080p30hz (ok) or checkerboard 1080p60hz (unusable due to colorbug on passive LG's) with a modified tv edid - nvision IR emitter required;
3- interleaved 3d with another modified tv edid (but has colorbug on lg 32lw5700 model).
Well, this is my experience with my LG Cinema 3D 32'' lw5700.
Hope it helped!
Cheers

you can use 3d tv play with (or) a eeid overide because they are still not fully suported in 3dtv play or 3d vision sinse nvidia take realy a long time to add tv/monitor compatibility.
im using myself a lg screen d2342-pn and it is verry good screen, but not enof supported by nvidia for the moment.

An EDID override won't do anything because 3DTV Play is strictly framepacking. For LG passive users, there's no way to get satisfactory 3D gaming with either 3D Vision or 3DTV Play. Only choices are Mits, LG active, samsung.

Roller11, you mention lg active, have you any workings with a lg active?, they allso have the colourbug in checkerboard

I'll update when/if I get a response.

uk pz550 plasma had colourghosting in checkerboard with or without the edid mod using a nvidia gtx470.

Regards,
Robert

So when you're proven wrong, all you can do is hurl insults? That's it?? Where's your comeback? Or is your lack of any disagreement an admission that my statement is 100% correct?
You're right about one thing...I will always point out your attempts to deceive people.
