3D Vision- custom resolutions with CRT monitor
The FAQ and the manual are specific about the resolutions that MUST be used with a DLP or other flat-panel display. What about a CRT monitor hooked up as an analog VGA display? Will upgrading to 3D vision involve losing the custom resolution feature?

Thanks, Mark

i used 3d vision with CRT before, it works on any resolution and any refresh rate higher then 70 Hz

Hi man, I have a ViewStart 17 inch monitor crt with 1024X768 at 85hz and also 800X600 at 100hz supported. If I would have a nvdia 3d card and nvidia 3d glasses, I will be able to play 3D games ?

I use a CRT and the highest refresh rate I have used is 180Hz... I could try 200 or 240 I think is the max I could try but above 100-120Hz I don't see any improvement but you can choose any horizontal refresh rate. The only issue I have is the bottom of the screen doesn't seem to look 3d like the rest of the screen and I am not sure why that is.. or if its just in certain games but Mass Effect looks crazy on the bottom of the screen but every where else looks great.

What resolutions are you running at? Any apparent loss of picture sharpness?

Thanks, Mark

I run either 800x600 or 1024x768.... my monitor will do 1152x864 at 120Hz
2048x1536 @ 79Hz
1920x1440 @ 84Hz
1600x1200 @ 99Hz
1280x1024 @ 115Hz

I have a Viewsonic Professional Series P225 monitor with the 5 BNC connectors in the back. I have kept it cause it still is the most bad ass monitor for games there has ever been and it handles a blazing 350Mhz of bandwidth which any monitor would fail at. I prefer higher refresh rates to resolution so I will run maybe 1600x1200 at 85Hz for desktop mode and 1024x768 at 120 for games... I still wish there was an easy short cut to change resolutions and refresh rates like I have in my Linux set up... but you know windows... no one cares about those kind of tweaks.

800x600 with 4x MSAA looks great... but the artifacts dont really bother me.. especially in fast paced games like Burnout Paradise which looks bad ass in 3d. Some of my favorite games are just audiosurf and a tower defense game called defense grid... there are a lot of simpler games out there that look great in 3d even though they aren't as sophisticated... usually they are only a few bucks on steam.

My only issue with my CRT is that I moved to a new apartment this month and I must of damaged the monitor cause now I get some 60Hz interference kind of like hum bars on a tv... so it doesnt bother me at multiples of 60hz but anything else and I get flickering due to the difference.. I think its just a capacitor going bad in the unit that I can replace.. or it might be some bad ground or something at the apartment.

Does anyone know the refreshrate limit of the 3D Vision glasses? I thought it was 120 or 140 Hz. My old Revelators had trouble with anything over 120Hz, so I haven't considered trying faster resolutions. Currently I use 1600x1000 @ 110Hz which looks pretty good. I could do 1280x800 @ 140Hz and wonder if that would be supported and look smoother.
