Single- or Dual-Link DVI?
Hi

I'm planning to buy an Acer H5360 and a 3d Vision Kit. I have a MacBook Pro with a Geforce 9600 that only has a miniDisplay port.
Currently I use an Apple MiniDisplay to DVI Adapter (applestore link) to connect my TV through a DVI-HDMI cable.
However this adapter provides only a Single-Link DVI-port.

Is a Single-Link DVI-port enough or do i need to buy one of those extremely overpriced Dual-Link adapters?

Many Thanks.

3D vision works best with 120Hz displays (so you get 60Hz per eye) & that requires the bandwidth of Dual-link DVI. You might get it to work without it but it will be far from an optimal experience.

Thanks for the quick reply.

OK, so i also have to buy a new adapter :( , which brings me to my next question.
Would it be better to buy a MiniDisplay to DualLink DVI Adapter or a MiniDisplay to HDMI Adapter?
Or would the result be the same?

Hi, I have one of those projectors and have it connected with a 5m DVI to HDMI cable (no adapters)
It's single link and works 100% fine. Probably because the resolution is 1280 x 720 you don't need the bandwidth of a dual link cable.

I would avoid using those adapters and just get a good cable, mine cost about a tenner so not over priced either.

EDIT: Sorry, i didn't read your post and see the mac bit so now i'm not sure about the miniport thing.
Can you run 3dvision on a mac? would that be by using parallels to run windows?

Hi, no i would be running Windows 7 normally, not virtualized.
I already found some posts about that in other forums, and it is possible with the 9600m.
And I also found other posts about 3d vision on a Mac with Windows installed, and it works , but they don't say how the monitor was connected, so maybe these were Macs with Mini-DVI or normal DVI ports.
After what i've read it seems that MiniDisplay 1.1 can't output 1080p@120Hz, in January 09 Vesa announced that 1.2 will be able to do that, but i have no idea if 1.2 is already released, or if 1.1 can at least output 720p@120Hz ,which is the native resolution of the Acer h5360 anyway.

However i found a miniDisplay to DualLink DVI adapter for 15Euros , so I'll give that a try.
I hope that works :'(

For the record: 1280 x 720 120HZ does not require an DVI-D cable. An DVI-S(Single Link) will do fine. This is becuase of the used bandwidth, the Samsung RZ2233 uses an 3d resolution of 1680x1050@120HZ and which requires alot more bandwidth, that is why the DVI-D is needed on the monitors but not on the beamers.

Also keep in mind that you probably have to INF-mod the Nvidia Desktop driver to work with the 9600m otherwise you will not have 3d stereo options in the Nvidia Control Panel. I had to do it myself for my macbook pro.
