Certainly doesn't hurt. Although 3D on PC would have probably been more successful in in hadn't gone proprietary. If Nvidia and AMD could have gotten together, agreed on a single standard, and realized the profit would have come from selling more powerful cards in a stagnant market (and not nickel and diming every stage of the pipeline and forcing developers to dedicate resources to features half the market was locked out of), it may have been more successful.
