Getting more preformance...
Hey all, I just thought i'd ask you all for your opinions on wether i should get a GTX480.

Basicly i like to play my games maxed out with a lil bit of AA on the side and its getting to the point where my fps gets uncomftably low.......

So! i have decided i will be willing to buy a GTX480 if my system could utilize it properly. /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />

So first question,

1. Is a 620Watt (700watt max output) Enough to power..... 1 GTX480 + 8800GTX + a 2.66GhzQuadCore(Q9450)

2. Would a 8800GTX be worth keeping as a Phyx card? (or should i sell it ? )

3. Would a 2.66GHz quadcore cpu be a bottle neck for a gtx480? + 8800gtx phyx card?

And finnaly!! If anyone can give some other pointers or recomendations other than the questions i'd really aprricate it /kiss.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
So to help with this here is my current system...

Cpu: Q9450 @ 2.66GHz
Gpu: 8800Gtx + 8800Gtx in sli
Ram: 4Gig 800Mhz Ocz Value ram :">
Psu: CoolerMaster Real Power M620 (620 Watts)
Motherboard: Asus P5N32-E sli

If you have the proper cooling... I would OC that cpu ~+500mhz or so.
-What monitor(s) do you currently use and @ what resolution?
-Please link the "700w" psu you are referring to so that we may make sure it has ample amperage.

We have yet to see the gtx400's in combination w/ dedicated physX cards. As of now... it will most likely not effect game play in most titles...
Darkvoid,Cryostasis, and Batman AA are the only titles showing frame rate increases from dedicated physX cards (with current gen tech)
In all honesty; I feel the gtx400's handle physX very nicely on their own.

I ordered a GTX 480 today simply because I want the best 3D experience.

Should be here on Monday.

PSU should be enough, I would think. Nvidia recommends a 600W PSU.

And as was said, I would try and OC your CPU to 3.0 if you have proper cooling (ie: Not stock CPU cooler).

Thanks for the replies /pirate.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pirate:' />

And here the answers to your questions,

I have a Alienware AW2310 @ 1920x1080

And here is a link to the PSU http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=2573

And yeah i have a very good air cooled cpu cooler, OCZ vendetta 2 http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/cool...ta_2_cpu_cooler

i always intended to overclock my cpu as i bought this cooler from the very beging, although i never did do it at the start as i dident need the boosted preformance with my old moniter (lower res) and due to not using 3d as well as the games at the time already running perfectly...

I also think my Cpu tempature values are stuck /yucky.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':yucky:' /> as they never really move from 45*c acorss all 4 cores, wether underload or idle. So that has always deterd me from oc'ing.

Either way i have been reading up on overclocking over the last few weeks and managed to get it to run at 2.8ghz on stock voltages but although it ran stable in Prime95 for 14 hours it seems unstable whilst gaming /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

As well as this i did various benchmarks at stock speeds, which i recorded and there seems to be no improvement what so ever by boosting it to 2.8ghz /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

So is it possible that my 4 1Gig sticks of 800mhz OCZ ram are bottle necking the cpu?? The ram timings are 5,6,6,15 T2

Its not you ram that is bottlenecking.... It's your CPU, 2.8 is not good enough, I bet 3.2ghz will increase your performance and you can get that easily with Q6600. 2.66 to 2.8 is almost no difference, you need to improve your CPU performance at least 20%, 5% is just not good enough.

I suppose a %5 overclock is to small then /sweat.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Although i have a problem, i have been experimenting with some CPU overclocking and i cannot get the FSB higher than 1400mhz (350fsb x8 multi) this seems to be regardless of the vcore voltage. As i can achive this on stock 1.2volts and still cannot get the value higher at 1.3volts.

So i thought rather than potentialy overvolt and burn some compents what would be the next recomended or suggested step to take, wether it be increase the voltages or frequences of other parts.

Im still tinkering around but im just making sure i log everything lol since im new to this. :">

On another note! Any tips or suggestions from anyone would be massivly appricated, Thanks /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />
