Firewatch - 3D Vision

Just a small update. Still did not have time to play this, or to check out DSS's link on how to reinstall old versions of games on Steam. But I tried something simple to see what happens and I can report that the fix is working flawlessly again. I went to Game properties, BETA tab, and I selected the option "Previous build". THe new version will download, and the fix works. I'm not sure Steam keeps all the versions in the BETA options, so I guess this will work at least until there is another game patch, which might force the current version to become "previous_build" in the BETA dropdown. I'll try to find some time to play this soon, to avoid other surprises.

Just bought the game, installed fix, 3D was bad. When I exit game, it crashes and need to close session. Uninstalled fix and insrtalled again but without updating migoto version, same shit. I look for this thread and now I understand! Game was updated and fix does not work anymore. :-( I tried Zappologist solution but it doesn't work anymore, I guess they have added an update since then so the previous is not the version for which the fix works. I've followed instructions from DarkStarSword to load a previous build, it works but the download is extremly slow. I'll save you the hassle of finding out the command line with proper numbers to get that version. Open the Steam console (or click here), and enter this: download_depot 383870 383871 8977686636404907712 One download is completed, you'll end up with this new folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_383870\depot_383871 Move content to overwrite Firewatch and you should be good to play with current version of the fix.

With previous version loaded and fix working, I saw the menu move from front to back a few times even when I touch anything, anyone else saw that? Also when I quit the game, I still get a crash and only working solution is CTRL-ALT-DEL and close session. Anyone can test this? I wonder if it's latest Windows update or something else because I haven't read a post about game crashing on exit.

Thank you for this Rhialto, I had abandoned this game for the time being but with your comments now it works! I think I had mentioned it in another post, that the game was no longer working even with the "previous version" build on Steam, after I updated my drivers from 387.95 to 397.64. So it's either due to another game update, or maybe the new drivers. I confirm that the depth of the menu/interface changes randomly from screen depth to the depth of the fix, with no apparent reason. I confirm the crashes as well. This happens even on the "previous built", and each time a new folder with the crash details is created. In the log details you can see lines such as: WARNING: Shader Unsupported: 'Marmoset/Transparent/Cutout/Diffuse IBL' - Pass 'FORWARD' has no vertex shader or 0x00007FF802D958B4 (dxgi) CreateDXGIFactory2 ERROR: SymGetSymFromAddr64, GetLastError: 'Attempt to access invalid address.' (Address: 00007FF802D94819) Seems that the game is Unity, and the problems are probably due to the change in Unity version. There are many universal fixes for Unity I think. The game might work with one of the universal fixes. But for the moment I'm happy that I can finally play this. Thanks again.

Glad my post was useful. DSS said he need to redo the fix but it must be boring to redo something you've done already and on a game you have played. Maybe it will end up with the Universal fix but I always wonder how universal it is, it could happen a game use a shader not present in any other games. I think Paul is looking to autodetect the Unity version so 3DFM could possibly propose the good Universal fix version to install. Until then my post is the solution. Oh and I wish there was an explanation to the fact the depth of the menu/interface changes randomly from screen depth to the depth of the fix just looking at it. I haven't started a game so I hope this does not happen all the time when playing.

Oh man, hardly a fix for the annoying always changing depth text! I just started a game and I didn't know there was so much text interaction... I don't mind but the text always changing depth is extremly annoying! I just got out of the truck and quit the game, I could not tolerate more. Maybe I'll ask for a refund and have a look on next sale at Christmas if this issue is fixed. Unless someone know how to quickly address this issue?

Thanks DHR, I added 5 more minutes of play time and that issue with text dialog always changing depth is gone. But what exactly those 4 lines means? I'm just curious. Now the other issue I have is that when the game load a new scene it goes back to Windows desktop a second then game come back and sometimes image is reversed so I have to press CTRL-T a few times to get it right. I doubt that problerm was happening to you as I think it is related to BenQ and the Display Port (didn't have such reverse issue when I was using DL-DVI) but the fact we see the Windows destop a second is normal I guess?

Thanks for sharing Rhialto. I found and tried different commands and versions when DSS suggested this workaround/rollback. The game appeared to load correctly with the 3d lit up. But there was no sound. So after 3 attempts I gave up. Your command worked! Played an hour last night and the sounds alone makes up half the experience, imo. It reminded me why I wanted to replay this. Game is way too short though. The fix is a bit buggy but I don't have these issues mentioned with the UI/HUD you mention. It works just like it did before the update. What type of glasses are you using? Some glasses have a reverse function built into the power button. I usually use these rechargeable glasses when my glasses with auto sync fails. If you guys haven't played it yet try Life is strange. I often read through Quora and some popular guy said it was the most emotional game he ever played. So I had to see for myself. With DSS's effort it truly brought this work of art to life. I just hate that all the good games are always so short. I do however feel that telltale games are leading in facial expressions and eye movement, which makes an RPG all that more intriguing.
