I have GTX 970 and LG OLED65E6V and Windows 10. HDMI connection. Also HDMI connection for 7.1 channel audio to my old Denon receiver. This is the only way since my Denon does not pass through 4K/HDR video.
So I understand that 3DTV Play does not support more than 1080p24 via HDMI. What if I used a Displayport->HDMI adapter? Would NVIDIA control panel still say I use HDMI?
Or is there any other way to get at least 1080p60 3D signal in games?

This thread may be of use to you.

You get great 8-bit color (not full 10-bit range), with interlaced 4K 3D video. 970 is probably not adequate for most recent games (I have overclocked Pascal Titan X), but new upscaling in some recent games helps. joker18's great EDID mod looks superb on my 55E6, highly recommended. Make sure you are using 4K certified HDMI cable (all HDMI cables are NOT the same)...

Sounds good! I believe my cable is sufficient because I can run 4K 60fps 4:4:4 fine.
Does the override affect HDR compatibility? Can I still play Hitman and Mass Effect: Andromeda in HDR?
Are these the files you meant? https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/818183/3d-vision/gtx-970-4k-3d-vision-gaming-success-with-lgub850v-passive-tv-/post/4510149/#4510149
How exactly do I install the modded EDID? Is there any risk of breaking my TV and how do I revert back to current settings, if needed?

I suggest starting here - https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/818183/3d-vision/gtx-970-4k-3d-vision-gaming-success-with-lgub850v-passive-tv-/post/5069064/#5069064. HDR = 10-bit so, you will lose HDR (I typically use YCbCr444, with TV's Ultra Deep Color enabled), but the 4K 3D is more than worth it...
By the way, some recent helixmod.blogspot games support TAB format (and interlaced, more recently), so no EDID mod is required for 4K 3D with these games (use TV's 3D mode to enable).

OK it works but 4K only. Other resolutions don't work and it does not turn the TV's 3D mode on, but shows 3D correctly anyway. This means I would have to increase brightness every time manually.
Also I lost 7.1 channel audio. Only stereo available anymore.
HDR is also disabled.

If you search, joker18 has also provided 7.1 EDID version. Brightness is NOT an issue with this TV. Did you test any games using just TAB mode, no EDID?
