What is wrong with Nvidia these days?

I areally want to get to the bottom of the flickering issues, and trust me, we read these forums.

What I am not able to do is read all forums and find the solutions that most people have found.

I want to remind everyone of the following:

- Environment flicker. There is environment flicker that occurs because of the frequency of the shutter glasses and ambient lighting. What we mean by this is the monitor isnt flickering but when you have the glasses on and are looking at the area around the monitor, you see flicker. We have options in our setup wizard to help make it better.

- Monitor/glasses flickering. If you have this, I want to know if it still exists or if you have fixed it. If you are in Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA, tell me and I will try to help get a local repro.[/quote]

Thanks for the support Andrew. We know you guys do read these forums and try and keep up with what all problems people are having ... I know it doesn't help when you have to sift through garbage like Trek and myself going back and fourth childishly. Sorry. -.-;

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect 3d vision to work correctly with other common software installed. Luckily I don't get flickering when I don't use EVGA precision or Everest, but 3d vision should work along side those programs in the first place. Assuming that anyone is an idiot that has flickering and that it is 100% user solvable is as silly as thinking anyone that doesn't have flickering is lying.

I never really got the notion of corporate apologism, most corporations are quite capable of handling their own PR. Whenever a company has a product that does not work as expected on systems with reasonably common hardware or software, that is hardly the fault of the user. Then there is the case of Dave, whom cannot get the flickering to stop no matter what. If 3d vision wasn't so insanely sensitive in the first place, the flickering wouldn't be happening.

hey Pahncrd, I have read a bit on flickering, but does anyone know exactly why Precision/Rivatuner ... and apparently Everest (I was going to try this in place of Precision ... is Everest based on rivatuner?) cause flickering?

Best guess is that the hooks are causing timing issues that eventually build up to the point that it simply goes out of sync and doesn't know how to recover since some ops are out by tiny fractions of a second.r

Just to clarify, I am yet another person experiencing the flicker. To start, when I first bought my setup it was AMAZING. I mean, wow. I was completely blown away. Also, I used to run gpu-z and core temp in the background constantly while playing MW2 at highest settings. Well, then at some point I needed to do a windows restore then...it started. After much searching I found simply not using gpu-z or coretemp anymore made the problem 100X better and it almost NEVER flickered anymore. Well, I went to go to add a hard drive (which I ended up taking back out anyway) and the mere process of UNPLUGGING THE USB CORD AND PLUGGING IT BACK IN caused me to get flickering again. I have tried all of the options, but nothing as worked for me so far.

Reinstalled all drivers, multiple times even (clean sweep of course, the one time I could get it to work...damn windows and auto installing crap drivers)
Different usb ports
charging the glasses fully
re-positioning IR sensor
strange nvidia voodoo dances, seriously..i thought this one would work for sure

I am still stuck with this problem. It's weird though. When I first got the kit I could back away from my desk and even stare right at the ceiling light...with NO flickering at all. now doing the same thing makes them blink like their hooked on smack. Also strange, is that while there is an occasional flicker actually caused by the MOUSE of all things, typically it is a constant. Say im playing LFD, every minute or so it will blink for a short time, then stop. It then runs almost flawlessly until the next set of flicker kicks in. I have no monitoring software running in the background. So, im all for hearing any suggestions as to how I can fix this problem. Perhaps some way to figure out what is happening every minute or so to my my transmitter lose sync with the usb port (if this is indeed what is happening) I just find it strange that a majority of my flicker problems are somewhat of a constant. It isn't that random.

720BE 3.6ghz (yes, I tried it out at stock too)
Asus m4n72-e
Gigabyte Super Overclocked Edition gtx275
4gb gskill ddr800 @ 4-4-4-12
640gb wd black
and more cooling than I probably need

Have you installed any new software or updates which could explain this hoodoo.
Try DPC latency checker to check whether your system is still responsive.

No, unfortunately I really did just unplug the usb cable and plugged it back in...after that, it hasn't been right since. Before that It was the Windows 7 restore that did it. At least for me we KNOW it has to be some form of software issue, unless something broke within the last 2 months. (and no, nothing is broken) I will try the dpc latency checker..though, i need to look up what it is first. 99.9% of my flicker is during short periods of time...then usually it stops. for it to be so regular there has to be SOMETHING causing it. I am guessing, its obviously software related. Will post back with dpc latency checker info.

Well...ill be damned. Now, I'm not entirely sure what the dpc latency checker is looking for...BUT watching it idle im assuming that at the point of my flicker a 3266us latency is BAD. its also telling me some device drivers on this machine behave bad and will probably cause drop outs in real time audio and video streams blah blah blah.

so...now what?

Yes this is bad latency, it should be something like 50us, there is some bad driver which is taking too much time. Have you all drivers updated? There can be also "hidden" drivers related to various tools.
Take a look at DPC latency checker page, there is some troubleshooting ...

PS:
I am using now some really old shi.ty notebook which has 30us latency so compare it to your PC

After doing some reading, all I have learned is that 64bit windows, (I am running windows 7 64bit) has a large problem with dpc latency. I have yet to find any clear indication as to why, other than that the drivers simply suck. I have also tried disabling my ethernet, my on board sound, usb ports, i mean...the list goes on. I have as of yet been unable to find the source of the problem. I would try disabling my display adapter...but yeah, I know that would probably backfire on me and not allow me to see the screen. I would also be a bit annoyed if it were the Nvidia drivers causing my problem anyway. I just do not understand how it can go from absolutely perfect, to only functioning properly with monitoring software off, to flickering occasionally no matter what.

EDIT: alright, playing around on some MW2 I am seeing nowhere near the same spikes I was seeing before. I am still however getting periodic flickering. Though, 400us is a lot less than the 3000 that happened before when this was happening. It is now flickering without the latency happening as well. So this is more than likely not my exact problem. However, the latency does still bother me as it shouldn't be going that high anyway.

Turn off any GPU monitoring/altering devies (ie fan control, overclock etc) and your flickering will go away. Tried and true fix!
