Battlefield 3 3DVision Benchmarks
  25 / 43
Yeah. I gave it a go and messed around with a bunch of different 0,1 (off, on) values in the registry. There could be something in there that I can't remember changing.

In fact, after more messing around, I think just changing "StereoVisionConfirmed" to 0 before launching the game is what seems to turn DICE's version of 3D off and turn the Nvidia 3D vision on. Although, the 3D is different in this hack than the "process" BF3 3d vision enabling hack from before the support came out. In this hack, everything is rendered at the right depth except for the shadows and the sky. The iron-sight convergence toggle (Zoomed and unzoomed) doesn't work at all (It just stays at one convergence setting). Motion blur works and the sky is at screen depth.

So, with the two hacks to enable 3D along with the DICE 3D, we have 3 very different renderings... strange.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one having issues with 3D Surround and the player icons appearing at screen depth. 2D Surround everything works perfectly. 3D single monitor... perfect! Go to 3D Surround and the icons are rendering in 2D.... although when I take off my glasses, SOME of the vehicles/players have a "normal" icon over one of the two images, and a "squished" icon over the other image.

To add my specs to the conversation above, running on Ultra settings in single screen 3D, I get in the high 70's-95% GPU utilization on both cards and average in the mid-40's on fps according to Fraps.

2D Surround is about the same. 3D Surround, even though unplayable because of the icon issues, averages high 20's/Low 30's. Borderline playable from an fps perspective. Wonder if adding a third 580GTX would help.... what with Xmas coming and all... /angel.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='O:)' />

With v290.36 Beta driver, I can finally run BF3 on DX11 without any atkdx11disp.dll crash.

Unfortunately, I still can't enable 3D Vision for it.

All graphic settings are at Maximum except for AA Deferred which I disabled it for an improvement of around 12fps.

I forgot to include the framerate overlay. It runs at an average of 35fps.

I used Fraps to capture them as .bmp & then compressed them to .jpg.

Thanks for sharing those pics, they look great :)

Do you think SP looks better visually than MP?

I dare not say anything, people will kill me... I think it depends on the complexity of the map?

Can we get some sort of word from Nvidia as to if there is more 3d fixes (crosshair, convergence, performance) coming our way at ANY point in the future? If this is what they consider '3d Vision Ready' I'm going to be re-thinking what I buy in the future.

Re.nvidia response -yes it would be nice of them to let us know when we're going to get a usable driver

I too would like to hear what is going on with this game currently.

These are the last two replies from AndrewF on the matter:

Hi All

Let me take a moment to comment on 3D Vision support in the game

There is no built-in menu option for 3D on NVIDIA. Simply enable Stereoscopic 3D from our Control Panel and toggle 3D on / off inside the game using CTRL-T or by pressing the button on the emitter. This was a decision from DICE to leave off the Settings option for NVIDIA

If you want to adjust depth use the hotkeys or depth wheel

Depth is automatically reduced when you are inside a vehicle as designed by DICE.

Hi All

I can confirm convergence is locked right now, that is expected. Hopefully we can get it added in another patch.
All we can do is lobby Nvidia to ask DICE for these features on our behalf, or lobby DICE directly on their forums/getsatisfaction/twitter. Still, these changes will most likely have to come from DICE directly as its pretty clear Nvidia's hands are tied with this game. There is another patch scheduled to implement some of the promised changes that did not make the last patch and Back to Karkand is also supposed to release sometime in December, so those are the two earliest points we can expect any further 3D Vision improvements for BF3. I've shelved the game for now until Convergence is unlocked, have plenty of other games to play through with better 3D Vision support, like Batman! :)

I don't really care about convergence, I just want a driver that works decently

( sure its the driver as no improvement reducing settings etc ) may be a problem on certain cards ( gtx 580's )

I've been out of the loop on BF3, but I'm glad I waited to buy. lol that it went from "3d ready at launch" to "December with barely working 3D and trademark silence from nvidia about basic functionality". Maybe if nvidia spent as much money fixing their WRETCHED drivers as they did putting "3D Vision Ready" stickers on game boxes, people might actually be excited about 3D.

NVIDIA, this is unacceptable. If performance takes an incredible hit (seemingly way over 50% for me, which indicates that something is just broken) and convergence is locked, then this game is simply NOT "3D Vision Ready" and does not deserve a five star rating on the 3D Vision homepage; at best, that's just false advertising, at worst it's rendering irrelevant the whole concept of games being labelled "3D Vision Ready" and given a rating - if THIS already is sufficient for the highest possible rating, then I'm strongly inclined to simply no longer put any stock at all in the "3D Vision Ready" seal, which of course completely defeats the purpose of NVIDIA assigning a rating in the first place.

Look, I understand that you're dependent on DICE for the actual stereo implementation, but the way NVIDIA then chooses to rate and advertise the result is entirely up to you, and this is something that at present understandably makes gamers quite angry.

I really really like my nvidia kit, the 3d vision is unbeatable everyone that comes round my house & has ago is blown away by it,

I've mainly been using it for (3d vision surround) mainly iracing and rfactor racing sims the kit works fine for these.

This has been a terrible start with bf3, without any word or response/feedback from nvidia it's very frustrating for us users, we have no idea if the problems will be fixed at all

I must admit when pals say "wow bf3 must be phoniminal on your system" it's a tad embarrassing replying that it dosnt work properly especially as they know the amount of monies I've spent on my hardware.

Very very frustrating as this could simply be a very bad sign of what's to come

I feel a bit deflated about this and think I'll be starting to change my attitude towards what I do with my cash in future I'm really not going to get caught up in the new hardware hype again thus a lot less upgrades etc

Just to add my brother is having a whale of a time playing bf3 on a 200 quid consol (not 3d but he didn't spend out £2500/ $3800 on graphic cards&monitors to have it ! )

Maybe I'm a complete sucker
