XL2420TX - 3D not working

I know. I was the one who asked in that post in facebook. What I want to know is why do some people say that the problem occurs EVEN WHEN NOT IN SLEEP MODE. BenQ said it only happens when the computer sleeps, people say not ONLY in that instance.
[/quote]

I can confirm it occurs not just with sleep mode (of the display itself) which is what I think others were mentioning when they were reporting the 3d emitter issues. There are also other system sleep issues that could be this display/display driver related. There are more problems than just the display corruption/3d emitter turning on when it shouldn't. I have a Thinkpad W520 with a Benq 2420TX connected via displayport connection. I was one of the pre-order people (I think my unit was manufactured in early March), I also had to wait a couple months for the 3d Vision 2 glasses (and I still cannot really see the difference between the Vision 2 glasses and lightboost and the Vision 1 glasses but I have not been able to use the product much because of all the problems I have had). Thing is none of the stuff has really worked properly at all and it has sucked up a huge amount of my time and money it would seem. I am working on getting a refund from Benq. Also so far as I know while Benq does have a firmware update that addresses at least some of my issues, I don't know that it addresses all of them (though they all seem related). Also I have seen nothing from Benq that even mentions this issue. I found out a day or two ago others were experiencing it via a search and on various forums. I had also thought at one point it might be just those using a displayport connection but seems not. In addition to this stuff pretty much just not working right overall, it has been a huge frustration having, for two months now, to move my keyboard,open/shut my new laptop 2-3 times a day just to resume it from sleep with the power button and opening/shuting the lid which seemed to mitigate somewhat the sleep/display issue (opening/shutting the lid and the connection/hotplugging of the displays is key here I think), otherwise my system would just go to sleep after being idle 3 minutes or so plus the display corruption (mainly extreme dimming, also 3d does not work properly when it is in this state as we all have seen I think) and emitter issue. These could be all the same issue and it appears they probably are. I have come past a number of issues with this display (some the firmware update may address), video card, and various sets of Nvidia drivers isolating this to the Benq. I hope Benq reads this: "two months now, opening/shutting the laptop lid -2,3,4 times a day, or my system sleeps no matter what after around 3 minutes" or just leaving the darn thing on all day and never putting to sleep. Good god I have been ready to toss this thing out the window. The thing is I am seeing issues that are/could be Benq and firmware fix (or would possibly be firmware if fixed), and driver issues. I am to a point where personally I just want a refund. I am tired of troubleshooting this and dealing with this when all I wanted was working equipment and software.

An update. Benq is not being very responsible nor reasonable.

---
PS and making users pay to send their displays in for the firmware update is not right either.

Hi Guys,

Can I get an update on refunding this thing? Why has no one called me? Phillipe, I left you a vm Friday fyi. Benq ignoring me will not resolve this issue. Please see the following. Between the w520 and the Benq none of the kit really works together with the issues I’ve had... Certainly Benq can understand my desire to just return the display and get my refund and move on.

Thanks,

Christopher

I know a lot of this is about the w520 (see link below, a sort of summary), it is also about the Benq... I think just on the merits of my Benq issues I should get a refund. I may ask Lenovo for my money back for the w520. Believe me I have extensive doc on both the Benq issues and the w520 issues (notes, emails, case numbers).

I just sent this to the President of Benq North America (Lars Yoder). I just want my money refunded and Benq to cover the cost of returning the defective item.

Hi Lars,

I see you are president of Benq North America. Can you please help me to get a refund for my defective Benq display? Support is no longer responding to my issue (my contacts at Benq are in the email chain). My Benq XL2420TX has been problematic from day one (coupled with similar low level issues with the laptop that the Benq was supposed to be paired with). Nothing works properly together. The Benq has issues (3d emitter, sleep, display corruption) that require a firmware update that may not even resolve my issues. Then I have to pay to return the display to get the firmware update? I have had the device for two months and it has not worked properly (and after two months I can ID the Benq as being a big part of my issues ---I had to find out about the firmware update on my own, nothing was conveyed from Benq on this). After all this (please see below), between the Benq and the other issues (not Benq’s fault), I just wish a refund at this point. I am sure you can understand. Too much time, money and too many uncertainties.

Thank you,

Christopher

Update: Benq is back on the ball, refund will be processed. I am not happy about the issues, but I am happy again with Benq's customer service. This will be a nice display once the kinks are worked out.
Cheers

Hey guys I just ordered the xl2420tx monitor and received it yesterday i have yet to see the green light for the ir emitter. I called benq and they said that this wasn't a common problem and sent me a bull**** troubleshoot email that had nothing to do with the monitor. 3D is not even working out of the box I have tried hard resetting and no green light has this happened to anyone. i am defiantly calling Amazon to return the purchase and probably get the xl2420t model because its a great monitor but when a company is this incompetent to ship such defective products it scares me to purchase anything from them as it should for everyone also the lack of reasurrance to the customers makes things worse. Thanks to this thread i am not in the dark about whats goin on which help.

yea i ran the setup wizard several times and each time the hardware failed i also enabled 3d for bf3 and it was like watchin a 3d movie without the glasses. Iam sure that the emitter is not even working because even in the settings under system the emitter part is grayed out.

Hey guys. Just something to try for everyone experiencing issues.

I had major trouble with the 301.42 drivers. Dropped down to the 296.10 drivers fixed all my problems.

Can you be more specific on your "problems"?

I'm willing to test as a XL2420TX owner but how would I know if the problem is the same as ypurs if you state it very generally?

Hi Kevin, how's your xl2420tx performing? did you encounter the same "emitter not waking up" problem? I'm from the Philippines as well and I'm thinking of ordering one from Benq's site. tnx

Could not get the monitor to sync. When changing display modes to go to 3D the monitor would go blank and would come back, but 3D was not enabled.

I got it to kinda work once, but instead of showing one shape in one eye and the other shape in the other, they were flashing between shapes on both eyes rapidly.

Dropping down the Nvidia driver to the old one resolved it. However, I am still running into an issue where it is very difficult to disable 3D and have it register on the monitor. Had to restart after disabling 3D to make it work.

Hi. I confirmed that the firmware of my XL2420TX is the old one but surprisingly I did not encounter any 3D emitter problems. It's too early for me to say but so far, every single time I initialize 3D it is always working. I even tried letting the monitor sleep and it is also good to go. As mentioned by BenQ USA, the problem is not affecting all old-firmware-XL2420TX's. And if you buy now, you will surely get the ones with the new firmware so I'm sure you won't have any problems. Have you seen the posts in their FB fan page regarding this?

I have zero problems with the latest 301.42 NVIDIA WHQL driver and the XL2420TX. You may need to contact BenQ support directly for your problems with yours.

Hi Kevin, how's your xl2420tx performing? did you encounter the same "emitter not waking up" problem? I'm from the Philippines as well and I'm thinking of ordering one from Benq's site. tnx

Could not get the monitor to sync. When changing display modes to go to 3D the monitor would go blank and would come back, but 3D was not enabled.

I got it to kinda work once, but instead of showing one shape in one eye and the other shape in the other, they were flashing between shapes on both eyes rapidly.

Dropping down the Nvidia driver to the old one resolved it. However, I am still running into an issue where it is very difficult to disable 3D and have it register on the monitor. Had to restart after disabling 3D to make it work.
