It looks like I am back after all A strange frames question
My 3D glasses only got up to $113 on Ebay so I am going to keep them after all. Something strange has happened to my computer since I removed the IR Emitter from the USB port. My FPS in all of my games have skyrocketed. If I plug the emitter back in and disable 3d vision in the control panel, I lose between 10-20FPS in my games. If I unplug it totally, my FPS are back to normal. Anybody else experience this. I will just leave it unplugged in the mean time.

second question

I am upgrading my PC to a AMD 635BE 3.4 quad (I currently have AMD quad 2.3) with a new mobo and switching over to 8G of DDR3 ram. Will I notice the difference? I am getting mixed answers in other forums. I run W7 64bit at 1080P.

Thanks as always and I am actually glad to be back

Welcome back guy with strange nik :).

As with many but not all things in life... more is better, especially when it comes to dimensions.

As for your questions, I would guess you will see a small increase in performance, 3D is affected by through put which will be helped in this case by the extra clock speed and RAM [although 4 G would be plenty], but the most gains will be seen with beefier GFX cards I think. And no I haven't noticed the issue with unplugging the IR emitter, might give it a try though :).

lol wb, you may notice some improvement in games that were CPU limited if you upgraded your CPU, but I suspect most games with 3D Vision are going to be mainly GPU limited. Similarly about your question about disabling the IR receiver, that's probably due to either 1 of 2 things:

[list=1]
[*]When 3D Vision is enabled, there is a global Vsync setting of 120Hz whether you have the 3D emitter on or off. You have to disable 3D Vision completely in the NVCP or using the 2 start menu shortcuts to completely stop the S3D driver service.
[*]The S3D driver carries some additional CPU overhead. In systems with slower CPUs or in games that are extremeley CPU dependent, this overhead may be noticeable and may result in a significant drop in FPS. I've seen numerous comments stating disabling the 3D stereo driver (especially for those who don't even use 3D vision) results in an increase in FPS in some games.

    I was seeing the same thing online. I am glad it is not me. I will be doing a W7 overhall in July. I haven't formatted my drives in 2 years, so I am hoping that helps a little as well.

    Obone, thanks as always
