NVidia Stereo Refresh Rate Games go 3d but can't get above 60Hz.
Hello,

I have an EVGA NVidia Personal Cenima GForce 4 MX 440 with 8x Agp.
I also have some shutter glasses that have worked in the past.
My os crashed and I had to reinstall.

I am able to get the games to go stereo but the refresh rate drops to 60Hz.
I have tried all the common knowledge stuff like changing the desktop rate,
adjusting any of the games fps caps, etc.

I had 61.77, tv worked fine, stereo does same thing.
Upgraded to 71.89, tv has an inch on the left side removed and screen streached
to fill, stereo does same thing as before.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

In the nVidia control pannel, under stereo, there is refresh rate settings tab. Select the colour depth, reseolution, and refresh that you want, then tick the box named "always use stereo refresh" and you are all set.

Correction on first post.

The above 60Hz problem apears to only be in half-life so far.

As for the reply, I have all the refresh rates for all the res's set on that screen.
With 1024*768@100, which I am running in all my games.
I have also tried different res's in game.

Thanks...

You could try the command line -refresh 100 (or whatever hz value you wish to set it at)

Right-click your hl2 shortcut
Go to properties
in 'target' add to the end of the text:

-refresh N (where N is your desired refresh rate)

hit okay

try that and let us know if it works and remember to leave a space after any preceeding text in the command line before you put a new command.
i.e.: hl2.exe -refresh 100 -whatever -whatever

Try it with the hidden tab "Refresh-Rate-Overwrite".
Activate this hidden feature of the control-panel with coolbits or something similar

Also if you haven't done so and nothing else seems to work, try different settings for whether 3d is initially enabled or hot key enabled. I've had some applications act weird when you turn on 3d later rather then having it on from the start.

The refresh override resets to use default after I select OK.
As for the enabled/enabled by hotkey, I would have never thought of
that but still didn''t work.

Thanks...

That's interesting. I think your driver is corrupted (as can happen after multiple installs).

Use a utility called driver cleaner pro. It's free and can be found for download at www.guru3d.com

Download and install Driver Cleaner Pro
Uninstall your stereo drivers from add/remove programs
Uninstall nvidia forceware drivers from add/remove programs
Reset into safe mode
Launch driver cleaner pro and select multiple cleaning filters, select nvidia and click add, select nvidia stereo and click add, then click start.
When finished reset and install your favourite forceware combo manually (pressing cancel to all offers of help), making sure to reset between installing vga and stereo drivers.

Other than that... dunno mate. I believe this will cure your prob. *crosses fingers*
