since it's still early for 3d vision 2 stuff, nvidia should take things off the shelves and replace them all like how intel did with sandy bridge. it will let them make more money in a long term instead of constantly getting these complains and not being able to sell half of stuff they suppose to. right now, ppl by because 3d vision 2 is new and ppl are curious but once they see these critical problems, they will end up returning them and not buying at all. so i say fix it while the damage is still minimum.
Yeah, they need to do something, because I'm too scared to buy 3D Vision 2 at this point. I really wish nVidia wasn't so proprietary with their 3D hardware. If I was shopping for AMD-compatible 3D monitors, it would be so much easier. Samsung has such epic 3D monitors, but they're meant for setups using Tridef and AMD HD3D.

Its sad that I waiting a couple year for redesigned glasses just to end up wishing i would have just got a pair of the original glasses...
has anyone tried taking some sandpaper to the glossy finish around the lenses to dull it up some?

I wouldn't put sandpaper anywhere near anything transparent you plan to look through. What about some paint, though? Maybe masking tape off the lens and put some flat black airplane model paint on parts that are bugging you? You could mock it up with some eye black. Not that you should have to do this; it sounds like Nvidia made a small mistep here in an otherwise excellent product line.

Well got a pair of 3Dvision 2 glasses today...
Gotta say, i'm not too impressed with them, i was really hoping for improvements not just different issues. The frames themselves feel too small, the arms of the glasses arent long enough and now pinch directly above my ears rather than above and behind them like the old ones... the shiny glossy glare around the lenses is just as distracting as ppl have said it is, this is the dumbest design choice ever. Total fail.

I actually prefer the 3DVision2 glasses, I find them considerably more comfortable, than my original pair.
The 20% extra lens s such a marginal improvement I doubt anyone would notice without looking at the glasses side by side.
The glossy lens reflection just doesn't bother me, I don't think it's substantially worse than the original glasses, though I agree NVidia should have mot used shiny plastic there at all.

I mentioned this in another thread, but you can try using some blue painter's tape (rip to about 1/8" should be enough) to mask the bothersome reflective finish around the lenses. That would be an effective, non-permanent solution that wouldn't require you to permanently alter your frames.
Otherwise, I'd be happy to trade you a pair of 3DV1 for your pair of 3DV2. I just bought a pair of extra glasses about 2 months ago, new model with extended battery life and all. LMK. :)

When will 23" LightBoost enabled screens be available ? 27" is a bit useless and costs so much...
Also, has anyone heard about an Alienware Lightboost monitor ?
I had more time this weekend to compare the Asus to the Acer. The reflective surface on the glasses is a non-event. I gamed with these glasses all weekend and never noticed it, unless I was specificaly looking for it. On the other hand, I do have to say that Nvidia had their heads up their butts on the design, still way to uncomfortable and cheaply made. The yellow tint from the glasses is also annoying, but you had that with the orignal also. At $100 a pop, the quality of those glasses is a disgrace. The orginal glasses had a much better build quality. As far as lightboost, it does give good results, the picture is much brighter vs the Acer. It's also nice to actually be able to see my keyboard for once as the glasses don't shutter all the way with lightboost. So lightboost is a win. The Asus monitor has a much better build quality. So what about the dreaded oval of darkness everyone is complaining about. I see it very slightly. But really, I don't intend to stare at a blank monitor with the contrast and brightness cranked to 100%, that is just stupid, nobody does that. The issue is completely non-existent for normal use. Blacklight bleed is a bit worse than the Acer, but overall I had a hard time finding differences in the pictures. The Asus seems a bit more vibrant with the colors, but that easily could be an issue with the settings. The Asus does start up quicker, which was an annoying issue on the Acer. Crosstalk is no better than the Acer, lightboost only helps reduce the annoying brightness reduction in 3d, which does work well.
So far, to sum it up, like the monitor, like lightboost, don't like the cheap uncomfortable glasses.

That's strange.. I actually thought 3d vision 2 glasses were the most comfortable 3d glasses I've ever tried. I agree it feels flimsy and cheap but compared to 3d vision 1 glass or my vizio active 3d glasses, 3d vision 2 feels much better. 3D vision 1 was too dark and vizio set puts too much stress on my nose while I am wearing it. As for reflective surface, I only noticed it when I looked my eyeballs down while wearing the glasses. I never knew what they were talking about reflective surface coz I didn't even notice when I was only looking at game screen but when I actually looked down, I saw it. I was like, haha.. this was what they talking about. Now I keep looking down and see this reflection of screen inside my 3d vision 2 glasses and can't take my eyes off from it. :(

My Asus monitor came the other day and then 2 days later got the dreaded oval halo. It's definitely not discrete even at low contrast and brightness levels. Maybe mine's worse, but this is nutso :) It's very noticeable during normal use. In the 650+ dollar range, I won't be living with it. I'll RMA until they fix it or have ASUS repair it. I love everything else about the monitor for sure.

What utility are you using to test the monitor? I just tested with UDpixel again and don't notice any halo anywhere. I got this monitor last week and played a lot of Skyrim this weekend so it's well past the break-in period I would think.

Is Asus cross-shipping you a new display? For $700 they better. When Planar let that bad batch of displays out they cross-shipped the effected owners a new monitor.

That was taken using dead pixel buddy set to black. You can easily just create the same thing in paint. I play EVE online though ( don't troll me) and considering black is VERY much part of space... it's pretty obvious full time. It showed up after 2 days of normal use on stock settings, so maybe you got a good one. 2 days is pretty much what everyone who notes this issue is reporting.

I haven't heard back from ASUS yet but thanks for the heads up. I may demand something like that. I put in an RMA with the vendor up here in Canada eh.. but their fine print says they want to charge me a 15% restocking fee when filling out the RMA... like I'm going to pay them $100 to ship back a faulty monitor.
At the end of the day, this is the monitor I want, just without the backlight issues. Maybe it'll be better to work with ASUS instead of rolling the dice on a replacement from the same shipment from the retailer.

If I were you I would troll a couple of the Asus threads at Hardforum. They have a couple of representatives there that may help you out and if they don't then they deserve the bad press.
I saw this thread and there have already been a couple of people asking about that display.
Got a question for the guys at ASUS? Ask any of those here!
Looks like you did sign up for this thread. I would bump that thread and mention that it looks like they want a restocking fee. If thats the case Asus deserves the bad press. That is not excusable.
Edit: I forgot to post this Asus tech support evaluation. Its pretty accurate from what I've seen in the past.

I posted this elsewhere, but I think it belongs here.
I recently purchased a LightBoost monitor, an ASUS VG278H. My question is simple - how can I tell if LightBoost is working? The 3D effect certainly works, but I thought I would notice a brightening of the screen. When I switch between 2D and 3D with my glasses off there is no change in screen brightness. There are no settings or indicators within the Nvidia software that I can check.
I'm new to Nvidia 3D, so I have no basis of comparison. Maybe it's working fine, I'd just like some way to confirm it.

This indicates its working. On 3D vision 1 there is a very notable drop in brightness, not a little, a lot. You loose all details in shadows and even looking at the room around you seems to darken.
First time i used a VG278H I thought the glasses forgot to turn on, until i took them off to check and saw the double image. Suffice it to say I was impressed compared to version 1!

Was this true even with the glasses off? I know that the 3D1 glasses were darker, so I assumed the darkness people complained about was due to the glasses, not the monitor.
Things are still a bit dark with the glasses on. It's like wearing tinted sunglasses, which is basically what they are. Still, it's pretty good.
I finally found the LightBoost setting and was able to turn it off. Now that I have a basis of comparison I can confirm LightBoost is working fine. Thanks for the help.

has anyone tried taking some sandpaper to the glossy finish around the lenses to dull it up some?

So far, to sum it up, like the monitor, like lightboost, don't like the cheap uncomfortable glasses.

...So what about the dreaded oval of darkness everyone is complaining about.

Is Asus cross-shipping you a new display? For $700 they better. When Planar let that bad batch of displays out they cross-shipped the effected owners a new monitor.

I saw this thread and there have already been a couple of people asking about that display.

Thanks
