I really hope the cockpit 'scales' correctly within the world, I hate it when guns/hands don't so you wind up just ignoring them the best you can but I still feel like it throws off some of the level of immersion.

I dont really play cockpit games but man that trailer is impressive. Massive sense of scale without loss of detail. There was a FPS, called Sanctum which I patched which was "okay" as a game but I loved the scale in 3D. You were kind of insignificant in comparison to the size of everything else. Kind of like an ant farm. I dunno, as a 2D game I wouldnt of been amazed but I thought it was awesome in 3D. Unfortunately the second release got rid of this sense of scale. Its hard to put into words why I find this appealing in 3D. Regardless this title definitely seems appealing from that perspective. I want to see it surround more then Rift tbh [even though I dont have surround]. Game looks so appealing in surround. A domed view where you can look at all your instruments and see everthing if you look is amazing to me.

i asked CBJ about 3D in rebirth and this is what he said http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=4055237 "The cockpit is not a "GUI". The interior of the player ship is fully modelled, and any parts of the cockpit you see are there because that's what the pilot sees from where they are sitting. As elexis said, it's just as much a 3D object as the ships and stations you see outside. To answer the original question, 3D support is very much on the agenda for us. Whether it's something that will work 100% at release or something we will have to work on to improve in a patch after release, I can't be 100% sure at this stage."

the trailer looks incredible. I 'visualized' it in 3D and had goosebumps. :) a definite buy for me even the 3D is iffy at release.

Wow, that trailer looks fantastic. Definitely getting myself a projector now... I wonder what hardware they are running on. Apparently this game will finally be multi-core/thread optimized, unlike X3TC/AP. I'm guessing two GTX780's would come in handy for an awesome 3D experience ;-) I left a message on the Egosoft Forum (see link in #5 above) with some 'advice' on making sure the game can be playable in 3D at launch i.e. skybox, target markers, x-hair, allowing features (like shadows) to be disabled etc - if they at least do this much the game will be playable. Until Helix fixed X3 I could not play that game in 3D at all, so I am hoping the developers avoid that scenario this time. The developers are expressing interest in a 3D implementation, even if it has to wait for a later patch, so the more people that post on their forum in support of this the better.

I did the dangerous thing a few days ago and looked at prices of one of the BenQ 3D projectors, I sure wish I had £500 spare right now! I realised how much extra depth you get as you sit further from the screen, and can only imagine how much more impressive it would be to sit 7ft from a 90" 3D image vs my 27" VG278H...

In the US 720P 3d projectors go for $450 [Which I use]. Optoma hd66 / acerh5360 are the 720P models Ive tried and recommend.
hanging to get lost in the fog exploring space stations in this one
They better sort that out! It used to really do my head in that you couldn't see a well lit space station until you were nose to nose with it yet you could still see the detail of the nearby planet! Surely if you couldn't see the station's lights glowing through the... oh never mind.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
