Is there such thing as a DLP TV that is flawless as a computer monitor and display for 3D?
  1 / 2
A DLP TV that is both flawless as a computer monitor and perfect for 3D. Meaning no overscan problems, nothing. Just plug and play. No problems with fonts, no blurry problems, just perfection.

Does such a DLP tv exist?

[/quote]This is the question I had since having a Mits DLP for a week or so last summer. I got it to do 3D gaming in checkerboard mode, but the 2D was awful. Blurred blotchy fonts, there was no way I could put up with it. A real shame cause it was great for 3D gaming, I sent it back to Amazon.
If you want a DLP, there is no alternative, you must have bad picture quality. But if you just want the DLP because it's the only way to do 3D gaming in native resolution (1920x1080 checkerboard) at 60 frames per eye, then Samsung Plasma/Led is the answer. I just got this solution running on my Sammy 63c7000, details provided upon request. The superiority of 1920x1080 checkerboard over 1280x720 picture quality (both on a 1920x1080 native display) cannot be overstated.

I'm intrigued.

1. Does the 63c7000 have any issues at all with nvidia 3d vision?

2. You just have your video card going out to your 63c7000?

3. Is there any ghosting when playing games?

4. Any problems with fonts?

5. CAn you use the 63c7000 as a computer monitor? Is it that crisp and clear?

I'd love to know more! :)

I've had a Panasonic TCP50VT20 for a few weeks now. It's plasma, not DLP, but both the 3D and computer display are excellent. No overscan (after you set it up properly) and the fonts, etc. are as good as on a computer monitor even up quite close. I'm very impressed. This is through an HDMI connection from a GeForce card.

Jenson,
no,yes,no,no,yes.
The image quality on the sammy plasma is just as good as a computer monitor *if* you know how to enable the 'good quality' mode. Otherwise, it's much better than the Mits, but worse than a computer monitor. The Sony LED sets have this 'good quality' mode also, and it's enabled by default, but Sony doesn't have checkerboard mode. The panasonics, vizios, toshibas all lack both crisp image in 2D, and no checkerboard mode, so they are all non-starters. Samsung is the only set that does both perfect computer monitor 2D, and checkerboard. The downloadable manual for any of the 3D ready HDTVs by samsung refers to these modes, but they are grayed out, but there's a way to enable them that isn't documented. So the first hurdle is overecome, full quality in 2D. To game in 3D checkerboard, you first enable the 'good 2D quality' mode, that allows you to choose 'checkerboard' mode when installing the 3D Vision drivers. Then you choose 'DLP' in 3D Vision setup and finish the install. At this point, you can game in 3D 1920x1080 checkerboard at 60Hz per eye, same framerate as poor image quality 1280x720 so it's smooth.
In summary, you do a sort of hybrid of 3D Vision and 3DTV Play. You use the nvidia emitter from 3D Vision, and use the glasses that are compatible with the TV (nvidia glasses don't work). The glasses are synced to the TV emitter, but the nvidia emitter must be plugged in otherwise the game goes to 2D.
I've used both 3D Vision and 3DTV Play, and 3D Vision is superior in terms of depth, ghosting, overall quality. But as always, it depends on the game. At the high end of the scale, Modern Warfare 2, BF2, Bioshock 2. These games are breath taking at 1920x1080, and they show why you MUST game at native resolution. Call of Duty Black ops and Medal of honor have problems which I think can be overcome, but even without fixing them, you can always down res to 1280x720 to have "normal" 3D game play.
If you need more info, PM me.

I am trying to help everybody to stop buying crap displays.
I have made my wrong decision in 2009 when I bought the Sammy 2233RZ. Since then boy is it a long time since I have tried to get it work.
But could not. And then I waited for other manufacturers to see if they do it right. But no.
Be careful guys. Test a TV or monitor for 3D before you buy it. Or at least ask here before doing so. Don't waste your money

TBH though for a good monitor Id get a samsung lcd or for a bit more. I'd get the plasma. (I have a sony 40" lcd but I wish I had a samsung) You can get the 40" with 2 glasses and dvd player(on amazon) I know a lot of people who use it for monitor.

If one is not going to use the TV as a computer display, then Panasonic may or may not be an option, depends on personal preference. Otherwise, you get perfect 2D crispness with Samsung, poor 2D with Panasonic so it's no contest. And if you want to 3D game on your HDTV then forget every brand except Samsung....unless you prefer ugly downresed non 1-to-1 pixel mapping 720p to good 1920x1080 1-to-1 pixel picture quality.
