Dead Space 3 stuck at 30fps with 3D Vision and Vsync enabled??? Why I'm not getting 60fps????
  1 / 2
Guys, I've just finished Dead Space 3, amazing game and truly wonderfull in 3D thanks to Helix hard work, a magic experience really. What I haven't relized is that I was stuck at 30fps during gameplay, only during some cutscenes, I would get 60fp. I was always have Vsync on to prevent tearing, but I should get 60, not 30fps. This game is really soft on performance, if I disable Vsync I get 180fps, so there'ds plenty of power room. Does anyone have any idea why I'm only getting 30fps with Vsync on, instead of solid 60fps? In game resolution is set to 1920x1080 120hz, so I really have no clue???

Enable vsync in the NVidia control panel and disable it in game the game will run at 60 fps.

Your card will run the game at 60fps no problem, no need for adaptive vsync. I never use adaptive it sucks.

Can you explain me how I can do this using the Nvidia control panel, where I should go to enable Vsync? So, this is a bug that Dead Space 34 has with PC games?? I've never had such isses before, it's very strange really. 30 fps althought it's playable for DS3 it's ridiculous, since I have a card that can run this game beyond 100fps. I know Vsync will limit my fps to 60, but it's much better than only 30 right. So, I must disable Vsync in the game's menu and enable it using NVP specific settings for Dead Space 3? Are all you guys that played DS3 having this issue that I've mentioned? I know my card suppprts adaptive Vsync, but I have no idea how to enable it and I've never used it? To enable Adaptive Vsync do I also need to use NCP and also disable Vsync in the game's menu? I know DS3 is a console port, totally, but all other console ports I've played run at 60fps with Vsync enabled, it's really weired that DS3 has this limitation with it's PC version, don't you agree?

1 open the control panel 2 select manage 3d settings 3 in the global tab scroll down to the very bottom 4 select "on" in the very last setting "vertical sync" 5 press the apply button that will appear at the bottom. 6 done Disabling the v-sync on both nvcp and the game will allow you to run at higher frames. mine runs round about 200hz DS3 runs at 30hz I have not seen any DS3 games running above that.
Your card will run the game at 60fps no problem, no need for adaptive vsync. I never use adaptive it sucks.
Why do you think it sucks dominikz? I have tested it in a good selction of games, it always gave me better performance then vsync. For example, DeadSpace 2 in 3D was positively jerky (stuttering) with vsync on (without it it teared to pieces) with adaptive vsync on it ran butter smooth. TomsHardware recently did a large review on adaptive vsync, with loads of real game benchmarks. They also concluded it really is a much better solution, and helped with stutter in most if not all games. They even tested sli and noticed less microstutterinng with it enabled. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7990-devil13-7970-x2,3329-10.html Hardocp had already made this conclusion earlier last yet: http://m.hardocp.com/article/2012/04/16/nvidia_adaptive_vsync_technology_review/3#.USuw8oy9KK0 I think the problem was at launch adaptive vsync brought in many problems, like all new techs there were bugs. These however seem to have been completly removed. Try it yourself, with just one of your gtx680's turned on with dead space 2, trine 2(with high aa) etc.. Younwill notice an improvement with it turned on i'm quite sure. But if you can list why it sucks, I would be interested in your opinion :-)

Don't I have to select the game Deadspace3.exe in the NCP before doing this process? Otherwise I'll be forcing Vsync for every single game I play, correct? I usually use Vsync for every game I play to avoid tearing, but I don't think it's good to have both the NCP and the in game settings with vsync enabled, that's why I would like to just force Vsync in the NCP for Deadspace3, not all games I have installed. Is this possible? I wasn't aware that Dead Space (1,2 and 3) runs at 30fps, that's weired??? Never heard of any game with the same limitation. I've played all of them, I think I wasn't using fraps, so I wasn't aware of that bug. Anyway, DS3 is quite playable in 30fps, it's smooth to me, as it's not fast action game, it's more the type of exploring and walking slowly. But If I can play at 60fps, why not? How do I enable the adaptive Vysnc? I have a GTX690 that supports this new feature, but I have no idea how to enable this?? I've already finished Dead Space 3 in 1080p120hz using my 27" Samsung monitor and it was really awesome. I'm now playing DS3 using my Samsung 63" C7000 Plasma 3DTV and it looks quite good despite heavy ghosting issues. Unfortunately I sit to close from the TV, about 1.6 meters away which is to close. If my living room was bigger, I could sit 3 meters away from my TV and it would be a lot better. I also had to tweak my TV a lot to get a good brightness and contrast in this game, since I'm using Frame Sequential mode 1080p30hz = 30fps per eye. When using this mode, my TV is in PC mode, not video mode, so many picture options are greyed out, so I really had to tweak brightness and contrast to get a satisfactory 3D. It was mandatory to use HDMI black levels set to low, in order to get good 3D picture. Playing DS3 in a 63" screen is crazy, but I have to deal with heavy ghosting in there's nothing I can do, cause I have a 2010 plasma 3DTV, one of the 1st that Samsung released. While it plays bluray3D with great quality, I woudn't say the same about 3D gaming. But anywsy, it's 63" screen, so it's crazy playing a game in a huge screen and Dead Space games are one of the few games that I can play using my TV with reasonable 3D quality and most important, one of the few games where 30fps is enough for smooth gameplay. Fortuanely my TV supports (frame sequential 3D in PC mode), so I can have 1080p30hz, which is far better than lousy 3DTV Play and 1080p24hz. If you play DS stuck at 24fps you'll feel lots of laggy, but at 30fps it's smooth gameplay, believe me. I can't play any games using 3DTV Play 720p60hz cause the image quality falls beyond acceptable level in my opinion, it's 1080p or nothing. I could also use Checkerboard mode to play DS3, but since I can play this game at 30fps, I prefer Frame sequential mode, as I get full resolution per eye, not half resolution like using CB.

It's a trade. I'll always use my 27" 3D monitor to play 3D Vision games as the quality is much better than any 3DTV, and the ghsoting issues are very low for most games, not all games off course. Playing games at 1080p120hz = 60fps per eye is the way to it's meant to be played. But sotimes I really want to use my big plasma TV to play 3D games besides just watching SBS and bluray3D movies. It's strange to get used and you need to ignore ghosting, but after you get used, it's really immersive and scary as hell. Great experience so far....

Anytime the frame rate is out of sync with the monitor refresh you will get tearing this is why I don't like using adaptive v-sync, frame limiting or for that matter running without v-sync. Anytime the frame rate falls out of monitor refresh it will automatically switch of v-sync and tearing will occur this is the basic workings of adaptive v-sync. Adaptive v-sync is a gimmick that NVidia is trying to sell us on ever since they couldn't correctly interface with the monitor refresh rate with the 600 cards. As a matter of fact even now with some games I get the refresh rates varying between 58 to 62 still after a year. There is a thread of over 2000 messages that has been running since the 600 came out and is still going on just this problem. DS3 will run at 60 without a problem on the op machine so there is no need to enable adaptive refresh however that's his choice and there is no faulting him trying it out. I prefer lowering some settings or throwing more hardware at a game to get a steady refresh synced to my monitor.

That is not how adaptive vsync works, its the complete opposite. When fps is lower then your monitor can display it turns vsync off. When the game is pumping out too many fps it turns vsync on. E.g. On a 120hz monitor: fps = engine output vfps = vsync output Without vsync Fps>120 (Screen Tearing) Fps=<120 (Smooth gaming) With vsync 30 > Fps =>15 (frame rate is set at 15vfps) 60 > Fps =>30 (frame rate is set to 30vfps) 120 > Fps =>60 (frame rate is set to 60vfps) Fps => 120 (smooth gaming no tearing) With adaptive vync Fps<120 (vsync off, get the same vfps as fps) smooth as possible for your PC power. Fps=>120 (vsync on, smooth gaming no tearing) So with vsync on, if your game ever goes into a lower threshold, your FPS will suddenly half! That is why we get stutter suddenly even though it was smooth just a second before. Adaptive vsync only turns vsync on if your monitor needs it (aka lower then 120 fps for a 120hz monitor, or lower then 60fps for a 60hz monitor.)

Im rather confused with that statement dominikzt. That is not how adaptive vsync works, its the complete opposite. When fps is lower then your monitor can display it turns vsync off. When the game is pumping out too many fps it turns vsync on.

E.g. On a 120hz monitor:
fps = engine output vfps = vsync output

Without vsync

Fps>120 (Screen Tearing)
Fps=<120 (Smooth gaming)

With vsync
30 > Fps =>15 (frame rate is set at 15vfps)
60 > Fps =>30 (frame rate is set to 30vfps)
120 > Fps =>60 (frame rate is set to 60vfps)
Fps => 120 (smooth gaming no tearing)

With adaptive vync

Fps<120 (vsync off, get the same vfps as fps) smooth as possible for your PC power.
Fps=>120 (vsync on, smooth gaming no tearing)

So with vsync on, if your game ever goes into a lower threshold, your FPS will suddenly half! That is why we get stutter suddenly even though it was smooth just a second before. What you said is what I meant only had a minute to write my msg this morning before work and didn't have time to proof read. I any case the I only enjoy the quality if the screen is perfectly synced to the fps maybe I'm too sensitive that way. that is why I stopped playing crisis 3 until the game and/or the driver is fixed. With v-sync I have never had a drop to 30 or even 15 I have had it at 55fps once or twice though
What you said is what I meant only had a minute to write my msg this morning before work and didn't have time to proof read. I any case the I only enjoy the quality if the screen is perfectly synced to the fps maybe I'm too sensitive
Fair enough, I often have to edit tings I write as upon reflection they were completely inaccurate ;-) As for your sensitivity to the screen not being synced, you mean to screan tearing right? If so, I am also incredibly sensitive to it. It really bugs the hell out of me, even on a 120hz monitor. That's why I have adaptive vsync on. You have a monster system, so it's likely that you never go under a 60fps threshold, so you really don' need to worry about it. But if you ever do, give adaptive vsync another go. I am willing to bet that you impression of it is based of older drivers (back last year) as it had quite a few complaints. Anyway, lucky you with your 3 way sli... lol, bastado!
