Yes, i use 2 pairs with the vg278H. As Tsabeht states, it's ir, so there should be no upper limit to number of glasses you can simultaneously use.
Only limited by the number of humans that can crowd around a monitor.
If you need more room, you can get a projector, and really pack em' in.
One trick I use for the projector- Point the emitter at the screen. Everyone is looking at the screen anyway, and the bounce signal is easier to hit everyone in the room.

To original question: Yes of course. But I seem to recall seeing that a single emitter syncs UP TO 4 pairs of glasses. In fact I'm 95% sure of this. You may double check that - the info is on Nvidia's website somewhere, because like I said, I've seen it. Seems like they advertised 3D Vision PRO (or Quadro) as being able to handle more. As long as you aren't trying to go beyond 4 pairs of glasses you'll be fine though. I'm 100% sure of that.

The ir LEDs are like a spotlight, LEDs typically have a viewing angle, say 15 degrees for instance. These are no different if you could jam pack 100 pairs of glasses in that space they should all theoretically sync because they would all 'see' the ir 'light' from the emitter.

Yeah that makes sense. That's the thing though - I have 3 pairs of glasses, and three average sized dudes sitting on a couch in front of a 23" ASUS monitor is pretty much max for a decent viewing angle.
