So System Shock 2 is finally available on GOG.com, and I've been thinking about buying it. It's an old game, but was recently updated with a patch that added a DirectX 9 graphics engine. Has anyone tried this game in 3D?
This is supposed to be a fantastic classic game. And I'd love to play it with the available graphics mods along with 3D Vision if possible.

I think it's opengl so it doesn't work, but recently there was a thread where thief games were tweaked to work on 3d, and if I remember well thief and ss2 share the same engine, so maybe that thief fix would work with ss2.
SS2 was so incredibly scary on my good old 20'' monitor back in the day, now on 100'' 3d screen I would shit myself for sure lol. Just the music from the beginning gives me the creeps, I swear sometimes I stood in the start screen and I couldn't get myself to load the game, so fuckin scary.

Someone posted about an fanmade update to the game engine (Dark Engine) which allows it to play in DX9/3D. I belive topic was something System Shock 2 and thief 2 in name. I dont know how the game rates but people sounded happy enough. May want to look for that thread.

System Shock 2 in 3D is no problem, just requires a bit of work. See following link which explains how to get Dark Engine games working in 3D. I have also downloaded some hi res texture packs to spruce up System Shock 2 and Thief 1/2. The work flawless in 3D and in fact they have less problems visually that some of the newer games. Trade off however, is don't expect super graphics. I thoroughly enjoyed System Shock 2 and the graphics are more than adequate. It's a classic game. See link and follow instructions carefully...

Nice, definitely getting this from GOG. I like playing older games in 3D; the graphics are simpler, so there are fewer on-screen distractions, if that makes sense. They also use fewer problematic post-processing effects. Descent I and II are epic using the Rebirth engine and DirectGL.

Do you have any link(s) you can recommend for the Rebirth engine and DirectGL. The Descent games are something I use to play but never bothered to even attempt 3D. I would need to purchase them again through GOG. Could I get them to run at 1920x1080 widescreen?

You can find DXX-Rebirth at: http://www.dxx-rebirth.com.
Here's http://gldirect.sourceforge.net/GLDirect. It's NOT DirectGL, as I wrote above...
And yes, it supports pretty much all resolutions. Although, the ship's windshield isn't visible for all resolutions; but it kind of ruins the 3D anyway.
I really wish D2X-XL from http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html would support 3D Vision, but it doesn't. Like DXX-Rebirth, it uses OpenGL, but it's a more advanced version that doesn't work with GLDirect. It allows high-rez textures and models in addition to improved lighting and particle effects.

Well, I bought SS3 off of GOG, and installed a few mods. The game is great, but despite being DX9, I can't get it to work in 3D. 3D Vision activates for the game, and displays the compatibility information, but the game won't rendered in 3D. The nVidia lasersight works, though.

i tried it a few months ago and it worked with 3d vision.
1. remove the exe from the outdated system shock 2 profile in nvidia inspector
2. install iz3d, enable stereo, but disable "enable stereo at application startup".

I reinstalled SS2 and followed that link's instructions but it still won't render in 3D. Only the lasersight works. Must be doing something wrong, but I've never had a problem like this. Hmm.

Set DDD to framepacking and set 3d vision to always start. It costs alot of frame rate but doesnt matter with such an old title.
Not sure if it works with iz3d.
Following the directions at the link using iz3d still doesn't work to get SS2 in 3D. Maybe I'll try DDD. You can use DDD along with 3D Vision, correct? Including with an H5360 DLP projector setup?
