I updated my drivers to 270.51 and Shift 2 crashes to the desktop as soon as I try to start the first race. I then did a clean install using CD 1.45 and now it works fine.
Just an FYI as I couldn't find anything on this topic when I was looking for answers.

I played it with the previous drivers.
Found the framerate to be a bit low. (I drove 3 races.)

My system:
i7 980 @3.3ghz
3way Sli GTX 580's, running on 3 monitors at 5809 x 1080 BC.
Win7 64 bit
In other news: I am devastated by the terrible 3D implementation on this game.
The sole purpose of upgrading my rig was just for Shift 2 Unleashed.
I even took the day off work today to play with my G27 steering wheel, 3 GFX cards and what was supposed to be an awesome racing game.
What are the chances they will ever make the game 3D playable via a patch, a driver or something?

Can you try disabling 3D from the NVIDIA Control panel and see if Shift 2 works fine in 2D Mode? That will help me isolate the issue.
Also, please include full system details so I can get a repro in house:
- GPU Model
- SLI yes or no
- Monitor make model
- WHat resolution you are trying to launch in Surround
- WHat resolution you are trying to launch in Surround

Yes, I tried disabling 3D before running. Didn't work. EDIT: I only did so by pressing the green button on the pyramid. Can't be sure I did it in the software. I'm not reinstalling that driver version, so sorry, can't be sure I've helped here.
I rolled back the drivers to the previous version and now Shift 2 runs in surround again (with silly slow FPS.)
(Also, I noticed that in the 270.51 driver CRYSIS 2's 3D went crazy and permanently blocked the right eye in my glasses, but that's a story for another page.)

I'm also getting frequent crash to desktops in Shift 2 Unleashed with 270.51. The error report always points to nvcuda.dll as the source of the crash. I'm running the game in 2D Surround at 5760x1080.

I have managed to fix the CTD in Shift 2, but I ened up rolling back these drivers as there were causing more issues then they were fixing (epically bad in Bad Company 2).
To fix the CTD in Shift 2 you need to disable the CUDA-GPU's in the Manage 3D settings:

After done it should work fine - mine did. Good luck, I am now hanging out for the next driver....
I had already figured out the problem and fixed it a diff way. I took the nvcuda.dll from the 267.xx hacked drivers and replaced the one from the 270.xx beta drivers and the game will not crash at the start of a race now. Your way is better since it's specific to the game profile. Andrew I am seeing NUMEROUS games that crash badly whenever 3D checkbox is checked in CP. 3d doesn't even have to be enabled in game. As long as that 3D checkbox is checked in the CP then black screens and system freezes come. FSX in dx9, TDU are two examples that I have found so far in my testing. TDU started working for me but if HDR is enabled the fps is horrible. Disable HDR and it runs great. These were never problems with 258.96.
Edit: TDU still not running great but it's around 25-30fps in 3DVS which is fairly playable. It used to be 35-40fps with 258.96.

Hi
Do this for me.
You are running a Bezel corrected resolution. Please try 5760x1080 not the 5890x1080 bezel corrected resolution.
As for 3D, dont just press the button, please turn off 3D from the NVIDIA STereoscopic 3D control panel and post your results.

I really appreciate that you are looking at the problem. Lets me know that nVidia might care how much I've spent on their hardware in the last years.
Unfortunately this driver caused so many problems for me that after the roll-back I am not touching them again until the next version, so I can't run your test.
As always, I will be among the first to install the next beta drivers, and among the first to complain when they break!
