World of Warcraft issues when using 3D Vision
I upgraded from 1.04 to 1.05 last night. I haven't seen any major changes, but here's a link to where you can grab 'em if you wish to try:

Driver Page

Just make sure the pulldowns are set to match your OS, and that the "Recommended/Beta:" one is set to "all". Do the search and it will return a couple of different versions of the driver, including the 1.05 beta.
I guess I'm confused by the 1.05 part. There is a beta driver version 182.05, is that what you are referring to? I could not find a CD image only graphics drivers. Thanks

Ah, I think you are not setting the pulldowns correctly. The versions you are seeing are the drivers for your video card, not the driver packages for the 3D Vision system. Make sure you set the following pulldown before doing the search:

Product Series : Geforce 3D Vision
Hi All,

Just a quick thread on this. If anyone is playing World of Warcraft and is experiencing slowdown or flickering, can you try disabling any in-game add-ons? We have found an issue with X-Perl UnitFrames that we know does cause flickering. http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/xperl.aspx

Let me know your results, thanks.
I have seen no mention of this problem so I guess I need to ask. Playing WoW is great in 3D but there is one extremely annoying problem. The map insists on displaying in 3D and is completely unusable that way. It needs to be a 2D object. There is always 2 pointers separated by a large amount and the actual pointer is in between them and invisible. And of course the distance between the 2 map images is way too much to visualize it. Is there a way to turn off the 3D effect of the map, like the action bars? I used dominos for a replacement and they are 2D and so not a problem. Of course that does interfere slightly with the 3D effect near them but I've learned to live with that. The map however is a real problem, I need it for navigation. Thanks

Sorry didnt see this posting. What is the summary from the thread? I have not seen a perf hit with the ALT-Z command myself. What are the issues you are having?
Hmm I have 3 computers. Now testing with a 8800gtx, gtx280 on THREE 3 , asus x48, gigabyte p45, and in WORLD OF WARCRAFT when 3D is turned on FPS goes from 60-100 to 10-19 or worse. The flickering can be seen but MAX all the options in VIDEO and run around Stormwind.. any city. Weather effects.. RAIN, SNOW help flickering lol. So if YOU would please READ this thread and what the 1st person posted, what this person said is what WE all are getting.

(I've been experiencing some unexpectedly large fps hits when enabling Stereo 3D. My system is what I would consider "overkill" for WoW, so while I expected a 50-60% performance hit due to the nature of how Stereo 3D is performed, I am seeing a reality of about a 75-80% perf hit when this is enabled.)

So Andrew what motherboard and NV graphics card are you using where you are NOT getting a huge FPS hit like we are I would love to know and test it :) thanks

I'm actually the poster that started the above linked thread on the official WoW forums looking for feedback from their end.

I've recently upgraded some of my machine for other reasons, but a side effect of this was to see if any of the non-gpu hardware might have been contributing to the situation. In short, I'm still seeing the massive slowdown with stereoscopic in WoW once the UI layer (mine is heavily modded) is enabled.

Short summary:

UI disabled: FPS drops from 110fps -> 55-50fps when enabling stereoscopic (expected due to overhead of sterescopic + vsync limitations)
UI enabled: FPS drops from 110fps -> 20-15fps when enabling stereoscopic (unexpected)

Depending on the complexity of the scene, I can occasionally see a minor framerate hit by toggling on/off the UI layer with stereoscopic disabled. This leads me to believe that the UI introduces an FPS hit in general, it's just much more dramatic with stereoscopic mode enabled.

This is running with the 1.05 drivers. I am also experiencing the mini-map issues that others have reported with this driver (not being consolidated properly to the 2d UI rendering). I did not have the mini-map issue with earlier drivers, but have not tried to back out to an earlier driver version to confirm that they are driver version related.

I've encountered the same behavior both before and after my hardware upgrades. I'll also mention that I've started to see the some of the flash/flicker issues since the hardware upgrade. I noticed this during the initial setup of my stereoscopic glasses. I haven't had a chance yet to test this in-game as I've been running stability testing on the new hardware most of the weekend, but prior to overclocking I was definitely seeing some flashing. I'll try to report back in the next day or so once I've had a chance to re-install all of my games and see if I see any new issues post-upgrade.

Additionally, I'm seeing some other visual issues that are WoW specific but don't appear to be tied to the actual stereoscopic functionality. This is probably not the correct forum for this info, but I'll list it here since I know there are at least a few others here playing WoW that can confirm/deny the issue:

Running in full-screen mode leaves a pattern of horizontal lines across the entire screen. These are subtle, but are clearly not present when running in maximized windowed-mode. I've not attempted to to modify refresh rates or try running the game on a different monitor yet, so I can't provide any more details than that. It's easiest to detect if you toggle between windowed mode and full-screen and focus your attention on the action bar buttons. It will almost appear that there is some texturing being applied to them, but it looks like it's actually taking place across the entire screen. This may be a long-standing issue, as honestly I did not play in full-screen mode until trying to get stereoscopic working.

Here's the before and after on the hardware at play:

Shared between before and after machines:
Vista 64-bit fully patched
1.05 stereoscopic driver
285gtx graphics card
WD Raptor HD
Thermaltake 850W PSU

BEFORE:
2.4GHz Core2Quad @ 2.4GHz (no overclock)
4 Gig of RAM (Crucial)
EVGA 680i motherboard

AFTER:
2.6GHz i7 920 @ 3.2GHz (BCLK overclock)
6 Gig of RAM (Corsair Dominator @ 1600 overclock)
Asus P6T Deluxe Motherboard

I find all this puzzling, as I am definitely not experiencing that much difference in fps. I can only expect it's something to do with certain mods. Although I have some must have mods, (x-perl, Dominos, Outfitter, Questhelper, and metamap) I am not as heavily modded as some. I have tried both on Vista 32 and 64 bit OS and there is no difference between the 2. I get around 44-50 fps sitting in IF without 3D, and about 25 fps with. It's always more than 50% of the normal fps when in 3D mode. My system is this:

Processor: Intel® Core(tm)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 676MB used, 3656MB available
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 - 896 MB
Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (120Hz)
Monitor: SyncMaster 2233RZ
MB: Abit IP35 Pro

Could be an issue with certain chipsets I guess. I doubt it's anything to do with the GPU or even cpu. I would love to upgrade to an Intel Core i7 cpu, but can't atm. When I am able to I will be very curious as to what happens to the fps. From what I've seen it almost appears that the more normal fps you have, the bigger the 3D hit. Definitely strange. I wonder what the effect would be in changing the amount of AA? I usually always keep the AA to none, just to maximize the fps.

Everything I've seen so far indicates that it is directly tied to how busy the UI is. If I turn off all add-ons and just go with the default blizz UI, there is a minor hit but nothing approaching what I'm seeing with my fully revamped UI. I've replaced all of the blizzard interface at this point, and added a lot of additional items that don't have an equivalent blizzard piece. If I slowly re-introduce the UI elements, I can watch the fps hit climb with each new addon I enable.

There are numerous addons which don't really add much to the UI layer, and those obviously don't contribute to the slowdown. But load things up with a fully decked out UI in a raid setting where you actually have 25 player units being shown along with all the other crutches I need to play, and it adds up quickly.

Hi Guys

I wanted to report back to this thread to say that in our internal testing, we have found the spell cooldown shading issues to be fixed with the 3.0.0 WoW patch.

If anyone has had this issue, can you report back if the new patch fixes your issues? Thanks.

I saw the shaders there for a day, then they dissapeared. But IDC about them nearly as much as my FPS in IF (A city in WoW).

3d Disabled 99+ FPS
3d Enabled 12 FPS

Stinks, glad to see Nvidia is acknowledging the issue and working to resolve it, I speak for the WoW community when I say I definately appreciate it and am looking forward to get this resolved.

When I enable SLI with 2 8800 GTS Cards WoW locks up on me in less than a minute of playing. If I disable SLI, it runs just fine. Anyone else have an issue with this?

When I enable SLI with 2 8800 GTS Cards WoW locks up on me in less than a minute of playing. If I disable SLI, it runs just fine. Anyone else have an issue with this?
Well I'm running a beefy system, so thats probably masking the issue.

We are going to spend some more time looking at WoW this week.
Thanks Andrew :) But could you look into Geforce gtx 8800 vs gtx 280? In reading is seems I am not alone in the flickering. My son is happy because hes using my 280 and me the 8800. The 8800 is flawless in WOW and so far my other games. No flicking. Yet the 280 really flickers. Thanks

EDIT: Well I read others and 295 I know not the same lol but I deleted all drivers underclocked, played with every setting I could even motherboard bios. Same effects in Vista 32 as 64 :( FLICKERING. Yet the 8800 works perfect. Please look into this.

I am glad to see someone acknowledge the problem I'm having. I am using the bundle (Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ) and have this same horizontal lines issue in 3D mode. Note: you call it "full screen mode", but I believe it is actually "3D mode" causing the problems. You can play WoW in full screen mode without the horizontal lines if you disable 3D Stereo in the nVidia control panel. This will bring the screen sharpness back (no horizontal lines) but of course you are in 2D mode. You are also correct that window mode doesn't have horizontal lines -- but this is because windowed mode forces the driver back into 2D mode.

Essentially, 3D mode is causing horizontal lines that give a grainy texture to the display.

Maybe this isn't just my problem, maybe it is a problem with the current crop of Samsung monitors? Or perhaps a driver update can fix it?

Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone else NOT experiencing it? I'd really love more feedback because I need to know if I should exchange the monitor or just deal with it.
