This is just what we needed for VR. I knew nvidia would pull out all the stops now AMD have caught up. New SLI tech as well as predicted. I hope they real benchmarks live up to the nvidia graphs. A 1070 faster than a Titan X, async compute performance, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI HDR, 8Gb of fast ram. I really want to upgrade my 980ti to the 1080 but after seeing the crazy performance levels it makes me wonder what a 1080ti with HBM memory and a lot more cores would perform like. Until we see proper benchmarks I wouldn't believe I word nvidia says, but if it's true you'd be pretty pissed off if you'd bought a 970 980 or 980ti recently, that's for sure. Especially if you use multi monitor support. Will this viewpoint tech help 3D vision? Can anyone from nvidia clear this up for us? Will it ever appear? Autostereo didn't. All these VR SLI tech was supposed to be with maxwell too and that never happened. I've heard this song before.

The same here all is good but is 3D Vision supported ? Is there any one at NVidia who we could e-mail to clear this up ?

I am really interested in the Surround "Simultaneous Multi-Projection" technique;) That sounds awesome;) Currently in Surround yes, you need to put the monitors at around 30 degrees angle to get the peripheral view, BUT you also need to TILT them a bit to "correct" the "bending" of the image that comes from the monitors being rotated. 3D Vision WILL be supported MOST likely: GTX 880M : http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-880m/features NO WORD on 3D Vision yet I have an Alienware Laptop WITH BUIT-IN 3D Display and works. All the other Newer Mobile GPUs don't have 3D Vision listed as supported but works perfectly fine if connected to a 3D Monitor + Emitter. Is mostly an oversight and probably they don't Advertise it anymore since 3D Vision is legacy and VR is the new thing;) At least this is my thought on the matter;)

Kind of hilarious how some people were trying to sell these new cards wouldn't be much of a jump over 970/980. I gave up in disgust.
Nvidia tends to leave out "requires developer intervention" when describing there new tech. Remember how excited people got for VR Works? SLI/ETC. ------------- I kind of doubt multiprojection is innate.
My biggest concern here. It's completely their MO. Promise something amazing when introducing a new card, never bring it to market, and then move onto the next promise when the next line replaces it. The 970/980 cards had multi-res shading for VR. Is this dead now too? Nothing was ever shipped using this. If this isn't a fundamental change to rendering (that's done with zero involvement of the developers), it could be another dog and pony show. It just seems way too good to be true. I desperately want it to be true, but I've learned my lesson with Nvidia to wait for the fine print.

They must be getting a good return on their chips for the price to be so reasonable. I was worried that poor product binning from moving to 16nm and the addition of new/faster memory would carry a hefty premium.

Gfx card are a rip off to be fair. I love how Jen touts that they spent billions on pascal and had 1000's of engineers working on it. Jesus Jen, could you give one of those engineers an hour to take the 720p limit of 3D TV Play? I'm starting to associate leather jackets with lies and vapourware! It's got to the point where it's almost like they are deliberately being spiteful!
you'd be pretty pissed off if you'd bought a 970 980 or 980ti recently
That 980ti can be your new dedicated PhysX card :P There's no mention of PhysX/Flex on the GTX 1080 product page. I would assume that a dedicated PhysX GPU could offer a decent return in games where the technology is used and implemented correctly.

Still in the return window for one of my 980 ti's and initiated the process last night. I have till June 4th to ship, so that should work out nicely. I wonder how low one will have to sell of going the Craigslist or Ebay route. Below 1070 prices? If so, my 2nd 980 ti may actually be used for PhysX :-/ Haha. I'll prob still to sell it and grab another 1080 if it supports 3d vision surround.

One pass stereo appears to be a variant of the Simultaneous Multi-Projection. Instead of for side monitors, it's for each eye. Based on the description, this sounds like them modifying the projection matrix and duplicating the pixel shader calls. If that's true, then this is very much game specific, not something you can wedge in with the driver. ShaderHackers probably could, because we often need to find the projection matrix anyway. We can possibly figure out their technique and use it as a different way to fix games. This is also how they are doing the 360 degree pictures and videos I expect. Lastly, that 2x reported speed over SLI 980 is cheating/marketing (marketing==lies). As far as I can tell, that's only for the VR case, using the multiprojection single-pass technique.

When I bought my GTX 980, the 980ti's came out a couple months later. I'll wait.

Let's just say I'm extremely skeptical about One Pass. I guess the decent news is that since I'm going 1070, and 1080 is coming out 15 days earlier, it'll be clear by then. Although who am I kidding? It's not like I'll have any real options if it is pure BS. I doubt the Polaris 10 is going to be a worthy alternative, although I'm certainly not writing anything off before June 10th. EDIT: People are saying only the "Founders" editions are going to be available on those launch dates? I wonder what the real launch dates are going to be then. Are we talking months? Really would be nice if AMD could at least bloody their nose in the mid-range market.
