^^ They would not allow the founders edition to end up competing with THEIR own board partners as said above that would be a huge strain on the business relationship Nvidia has with the partners. UNLESS that is MAP, in which case these two Pascal cards are even more underwhelming and overpriced for the miniscule gains over 980ti at essentially the identical price point if not more expensive...
My guess is it's MAP. I really dislike the argument people are making that this "doomsday" scenario has never happened before. Because it's ignoring the fact we've never had the MSRP be 100 dollars higher for the reference card. That throws all historical predictions out the window.

I've heard this song before. It won't be as good as Nvidia makes out but will be faster than the 980ti and titan X or Nvidia wouldn't have made a big song and dance about it. How much faster is what i'm going to make my decision on. 20% upwards i'll upgrade from my 980ti. I remember the 9 series coming out and the 980 was on par with a 780ti, then after many driver updates a 780ti was about the same as a 970. If these 1080's clock like hell I wonder if water cooling is worth it. The core count is pretty low on the 1080 too. It's like they took some off as it was too fast! ;D No one knows until some proper review and benchmarks come out for real games. I just hope high resolution gaming doesn't suffer. Why are all these demos at 1080p ffs? Who cares about 200 FPS at 1080p pointless. I just keep thinking about what a beast the 1080ti will be. HBM2 memory and a bigger core. Nvidia are greedy pigs though and will be a ridiculous price. Every generation the cards go up in price! It's not inflation level increases either, that's for sure!

I'm not even slightly surprised the new GPUs support 3D Vision. I mean, come on, NVIDIA still supports the old Discover 3D! Why would they even bother to drop 3D Vision? What I'm really wondering is whether that Ansel screenshot thing will support 3D Vision (or VR, for that matter). I'm actually just as excited about the surround-screenshots as the extra power! Is that possible to have a 2xSLI of "GTX 1080 + GTX 980" ?

@zlothX Ansel is cool but nvidia never talks about how limited one of its software/hardware is unless its really limited. Nvidia says ansel is limited and they are working to get support to few "pretty" titles. Its got to be popular and have developers willing. Though I guess they might be since it doesnt seem like a lot of work on there part and good advertising. @greatxerox Unless maybe running two different applications simulataenously I hear thats possible but yeah.. Some would say keep one for Physx but there is MAYBE one good phsyx game a year at most. Sell em both and use the cash to get a free 1080 forget SLI IMO.

@greatxerox: That graph seems misleading to me, especially if you look at the geforce page for 1080: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/10series/geforce-gtx-1080 Look at the 'peformance' section such as it is. That's right, >2x performance in... VR. Using the cheat of the VR Single-Pass. Tomb Raider and Witcher 3 both less than SLI 980. So, the usual, lies from the corporations. News at 11. I also agree with eqzitara, ditch SLI. Especially if you plan to run VR. And that DX12 promise of any card in SLI? I'd bet money that never works properly. Even assuming that DX12 is successful, which is not clear this early. I really, really hope that Vulkan wins this round.

SLI has went downhil for last like 5 years. The money you save from not going SLI every other cycle - you can use to upgrade every cycle and its guaranteed performance. Not to mention saving money as long as you keep selling the old one. Buy a 1080. Sell your 980. Buy a 1080TI. Sell your 1080. Thats a better route imo. If you find you NEED sli ever then go for it instead price may even drop by then. There are people who need SLI like surround users. I kind of doubt that a 1080 can beat two 980s for surround ever [in supported titles]

I like the idea of these new cards and they said voltra is even supposed to be faster and better out a year from now or something like that. This card will cost around 800 to 900 dollars CAN to buy so bah. Its not worth it right now to spend three playstation 4's on it for me. I'm really interested in the HBM2 so I will wait for that in a mid range or high range card. I really hope that Nvdia continues on 3D Vision ready games like Mafia 3, (I still need to finish Mafia 2) and I'm still waiting for a first person *Broom stick Flying game* Witch's Dream with sorcery and dragons, medieval type style. There is lots of new stuff to buy Vr, 4k, cpu, motherboard, ram, 1tb ssd, ect...

Now again overclocking your 980Ti/Titan X to something like 1500Mhz for Core/Boost will make that 24% go down even more. Based on simple math that 24% goes to 7-10% offset. Again just "numbers on a piece of paper" ;) But, yeah if you have 970 or 980 a 1080 is the way to GO;)

Yupp.
Looking at that graph:

  • GTX 1080 -> 100%
  • TITAN X -> 79%
  • GTX 980Ti -> 76%

    i would not even make conversation on overclocking as every card can be overclocked. I think the 25% gain from 980ti is kind of what i was expecting. in everything you can see pay a little extra and you get that much more. Man is greedy, needy and everything from between. How many times i have bought something like 3D case for gopro hero´s just so i would be more motivated to buy the other camera :D ...then after you start explaing to your self how you needed that new toy or upgrade. or you go to store to buy 400 tv and standing there long enough you leave the store with 2000 tv in your armpit convinced it was the right choise and in the long run the most cost efective.

    Your maths are wrong, helifax :p. Going from 59% to 100% is a 69.4915% increase. Your calculation is a decrease. Like: 60fps is 20% higher than 50fps. 50fps is 16.666667% lowe than 60fps. There is another benchmark including the 1080 OC'd to 2.1GHz. 124% compared to base 1080.
