Windows 8.1 update kills SLI in Nvidia 3D-Vision-Surround (3D)
I have a big problem and I post it in different areas of this forums because I don't know the exact reason for the problem and it concerns both "SLI" as well as "surround" and "3d vision".
Since I updated from Windows 8 (64 bit) to Windows 8.1 (64 bit) yesterday my 3D-Vision-Surround-System doesn't use my second TITAN-graphics-card although SLI is turned on (SLI-surround over 3 monitors)!
Before updating I had fluid framerates in my games but now I have poor framerates although I have a high-end-system. And the worst thing: it is not possible to roll back to windows 8!
In the nvidia control panel everything seems okay but when I checked SLI with the tool "GPU-Z" I realized that the second GPU has 0% load which seems to be the reason for the poor framerates.
I don't know if there are other/better tools for checking if SLI is working. If I enable the "SLI visual indicator" for example in the nvidia control panel nothing happens when I play a game afterward. Maybe this proves too that SLI is not working, maybe it is normal that the "SLI visual indicator" doesn't work in "SLI-surround-mode"?!
I am using the latest nvidia-driver (331.65), tried clean reinstalls, tried older drivers (327.23) but SLI is not being used when running games. With windows 8 everything was perfect.
Someone told me I should try to turn off SLI but I need SLI for my 3-monitor-surround-setup! Another strange thing is, if I try to turn off SLI a window pops up with a message that I have to close the wwahost.exe (this seems to have something to do with the windows-store?!).
I read in the forums that other people also have problems with SLI and windows 8.1 but the solutions in this forums are only for a specific hardware (notebooks Lenovo Y500/Y400/Y510P/Y410P) or concerning a fourth monitor. But I don't have a notebook but a desktop-pc and I "only" have three monitors.
Is there someone out there who has the same system and can (or can not) use triple-monitor-surround with SLI working on WINDOWS 8.1??
What can I do? Please help me!

You should be able to toggle SLI on and off without a problem.
It usually requires killing a lot of processes for me but when that is done I am finally able to toggle SLI.
One of the more tricky processes is the wwahost.exe you mentioned. I have not seen it show up in task manager but if you close all modern start screen applications the host process is closed as well.
I'm not really helping you with your problem but I thought you should know how to handle wwahost.exe.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.
To have a critical piece of code that everyone can enjoy!
What more can you ask for?
I had a few driver related issues after upgrading too, particularly with SLI. I figured it was because the 8.1 upgrade was effectively an in-place OS upgrade, and they often have problems. I reinstalled Windows 8.1 cleanly (you can find instructions on how to get the ISO, and how to install 8.1 with a win8 serial online). Since then everything is back to normal.

I gave up and did what I hoped to avoid: new installation of Windows 8 from DVD which meant that all my installed games and programs were gone...
At least my 3D surround is working again with SLI and good framerates...
Before I did this step I tried to refresh my Win 8.1 but I needed to insert a win 8.1 dvd, but I didn't have a dvd because I got win 8.1 by updating. Microsoft doesn't offer an ISO download (!) and the workaround from several internet sites didn't work because my win 8 key was not accepted.Unbelievable that Microsoft forces their customers to win 8.1 by simple update but gives them no solution to refresh or repair win 8.1 because of missing data media!
So I'll stick with win8...

It's actually possible to get a Win 8.1 iso with a Win8 key. You initiate the Win8 download, then cancel after it reaches 1%. You then try to initiate an 8.1 download and it won't ask you for a key.
As for installing, you can't install 8.1 with an 8 key, so find yourself a pirated key, use that, then when it comes to activate online (after installing) you can enter in your genuine key.

Ironic everyone at the "companies" which provide our hardware and software continually deny their is an issue, and yet I find another thread like this every day.
FWIW I finally have someone listening and he has been working with me very closely to find out what the deal is with SLI and windows 8.1
He has informed me that the NVidia offices are closed until the 6th, so don't expect any miracles until atleast that point (likely after) but atleast the ball is rolling.
For now I have also gone back to windows 8 which is disappointing but after wasting LITERALLY weeks on trying to avoid doing just that, I concede defeat. I have tried every single solitary thing someone with user level ability and privelages can without taking a college course in C+ and some.
check my posts you will find the one with Josh from Nvidia in it. Probably your best place to keep an eye on.

I'm able to enable SLI without a problem, but I'm seeing worse performance in Tomb Raider. Haven't tested with other things yet. I see performance gains as expected in 2d mode, but as soon as I enable 3d (non surround) the performance goes down.

Hello,
I have the same problem.
With some games (Tomb Raider) SLI does not work with 3D and Windows 8.1.
FPS is much worse than without 3D. With 3D I have 20 FPS, without 3D I have 95 fps.
All worked fine before I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. With 3D I had between 40 and 60 FPS in Tomb Raider with windows 8. Now with windows 8.1 I have less than half, around 20 FPS.
Thanks in advance for fixing this freaking problem.
