3D vision on linux?
Hi

We have a machine with a Quadro FX5000 nvidia card
and a acer GN245HQ screen ("nvidia 3D vision ready")

Can this screen be used for "classical" stereo viewing?
By this i mean like it used to be with the CRTs and CrystalEye Shutter glasses.
If this is possible how must i configure card and/or xorg.conf
to enable stereo? (currently our medical viewing application
says that the screen can not do stereo)

Can i use 3D vision on this system?
If yes, how do i have to configure (card or xorg.conf)?
Is there some test application which lets me check if stereo works?
How can i trigger 3D vision stereo mode from within an application?

Thank You for your help

Please see this http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/295.20/README/xconfigoptions.html Under <Option "Stereo" "integer"> you will see various options for stereo. For NVIDIA 3D Vision you will need to set stereo option to 10 like so;
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
Option "Stereo" "10" # For 3D Vision
.
.
.
EndSection
You will need to connect the IR emitter that comes with the 3D vision kit through the 3-pin stereo connector on your graphics card. Whenever you start a 3D capable program the monitor should automatically switch to 3D mode.

I would also strongly recommend disabling 'compositing' on your system by adding the following to your xorg file
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
Hope this helps
