Some days ago I have tested again Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. When LCTO was released it was said that future TR titles would use this "improved" game engine compared to TR 2013, too. With the actual versions of 3dmigoto and the default settings for hunting I could not dump any shader and no debug HUD was visible. Only an older version (3Dmigoto-0.99.50) worked for me but it took more than an hour until a level with new shaders was loaded. Switching to desktop deactivated S3D until the game was restartet. So fixing the game must be a pain. CM in LCTO was completely useless as it had no depth. So let's hope for a miracle ;)
OK I;ll try and look at this one, or just wait ;-)

Well I downloaded Temple of Osiris from the shaderhackers account and got the game running using the swanky new "hooking" feature in 3DMigoto 1.2.27 (just in time feature!). I had to set "hook = skip_dxgi_factory" for it to work. It's dumping out shaders nicely, although it's taking ages. And the shadow/lighting shaders are exactly the same as TR2013, i.e. I already know how to fix them :-) So I am confident that TR2016 will be fixable. I am sure there will be some annoying bits, like HUD and cross-hair etc, but on the whole I'm optimistic. Also, if anyone cares, there will be a fix for Temple of Osiris come out of this as well.

Update - Shader hunting does not work using the above hook method, but there is no other way to launch the game otherwise. So this will be a problem for us fixers.

Both versions of 3DMigoto load the shaderfixes folder and create .bin files, but then do not seem to actually override anything or affect the game in any way... So this is going to need bo3b and/or darkstarsword I think...

Once again TR takes me on an emotional roll coaster ride with many ups and downs. For TR 2013 it was: Yeah,a new TR is coming! Oh no, it's a cover based shooter combinded with torture porn! Well, it's no real TR but the best 3rd person shooter of the year and it supports 3D... Now I was happy to see that gamplay wise RTR seems to have found its original spirit again - but I wonder if I can play it in S3D. Anyway it would be very nice if a fix for LCTO could be the byproduct of RTR :) As LCTO has an isometric perspective it is possible to find the sweet spot for convergence when most of the shadows merged and so "playable" (but not really enjoyable) in S3D.

Another round on the roller coaster... Down: just bought the retail version at my local shop and of course it has a steam key included so I can't start the game before steam release. Up:
I almost certainly know what the problem is and how to fix it
Bad news: 3D vision is not kicking in, also no CM. And if you try to enable it, the game crashes. I have to say that I am not using the new driver and tried with the default profile.

I'm seeing the same thing as mrorange, and it's definitely not running in borderless windowed mode. Going to try the new driver and report back. Tested SLI and not, same results.

Had to check the Exclusive Fullscreen option to get 3D to kick in. Also have to turn off bloom otherwise you get a persistent background overlapped onto the game.

3D mode is broken (unplayable) and NVidia rated it fair CM mode has no depth I tried 3 to 4 profiles. The following string seems to the best I can find for CM mode Setting ID_0x709adada = 0x37f58257 InternalSettingFlag=V0 What a blast it would be to play this game with proper 3D.

Ok, so here's the verdict: It's...not too bad! -Shadows are broken, but they can be disabled in the menu for the most part. -Pure hair is broken, which is a shame because it looks really nice. "High" has too much of a performance hit, but "On" looks good. It seems they're just incorrectly offset, though it's hard to tell. Maybe an easy fix, but I'm not one to say. -A couple broken lighting effects, but most of the lighting seems okay -A couple avalanche effects are at screen depth, while other very similar ones aren't -A few broken specular shaders, but they're not eye-bleedingly bad -Crosshair is at a fixed depth. Better than screen depth, but not ideal -Performance seems reasonably good in the intro -Lens flares are broken -Flashlight during one of the intro cutscenes is at screen depth -Snow deformation effect is broken Honestly, if we weren't spoiled by the efforts of our fixers, this one is borderline playable out of the box. At least so far. But given our fixers are interested, I'd say hold off in the hopes that they'll be able to fix it.

However, see my earlier posts re TR2013 and LCTOO. With TR2013, I can fix shadows and lights no problem in the half an hour or so that I looked at it. In LCTOO I can get 3DMigoto launching and dumping all shaders, but shader hunting does not work, and it does not load fixed shaders - Darkstarsword said he can fix that though. The shaders are the same for TR2013 and LCTOO, so I am guessing they will be the same for TR2016. BTW the hair problem - where Lara's hair basically gets offset so much it disappears - only happens with TressFX, so there is an immediate work around to just turn it off. I wrote a shadows/light script last night so I should be able to apply straight away and as soon as shader hunting starts to work I will get a feel for how much else is left to do. I honestly think that this is going to be OK though. Everyone should wait for the fix, CM will NOT do this game justice :-)
