Witcher 2 requires a constant poke to get the registry change to stick, and Dirt 2 is similar.

It caused me to write a batch file and this thread: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=212298

As you can see in the thread, I tried many things to get it to work. poking at 10 second intervals, 1 second and even .2 second intervals. but only a continuous poke (which causes your processor to rise to 50% on each core) would allow the Witcher 2 to start with the 3D changes.

Overall, im happy with the batch file I show how to create in the link, but i forget sometimes to start it before playing a steam game! The Bat file has worked every time so far, but honestly we shouldnt have to spend our time writing solutions, and im really not sure it looks overly professional that NVIDIA themselves suggest such work arrounds, when its clearly a '5 minute job' to fix this in a more user friendly way.

Some games seem to respond to a single poke as the game is loading, others after tabbing out and poking. seems many newer games dont react too well to tabbing out, and a single poke while loading will not suffice. Its worth noting that in the Witcher 2, when poking at non-constant intervals (weven .2 secs) it wouldnt start up with the changes, but when tabbing out, the changes took effect (but the lighting breaks when you tab out in TW2)

I meant Dirt3, not Dirt 2.

hmm. thats pretty cool.. reposting links it to your last post. i like it...

@Cragproductions: The Witcher 2's lightning and shadows break on alt-tab, but only until you change depth, so just move the dial back and forth and everything is fixed again. It really is amazing, only modern game I play with no issues left as far as I can see

@Andrew: The drivers themselves keep reverting the value, I'd like them to never do so, but at least with games like The Witcher 2 the value sticks until you close the game if you change it after starting the game. But like some said before some games don't react well to alt+tabbing so the value can't be changed. I have tried binding a hotkey to starting a program that changes the MonitorSize value, so I don't have to alt+tab, but this doesn't work either because the display/renderer or something needs to be restarted for the new MonitorSize value to take effect, which happens in most games when you alt+tab. Just disabling and enabling 3d with the emitter button or hotkey doesn't do this.

Besides the above mentioned problems there are also some games which require "poking" the registry because even when alt+tabbing out, changing MonitorSize value, and then alt+tabbing back in will still get the value reverted by the drivers (as evidenced by Process Monitor). I suppose this is because those games handle reinitializing the display after alt+tabbing differently from the aforementioned games, making the driver behave like this.

In my opinion the drivers just shouldn't automatically change the MonitorSize value after initially setting it during driver setup, unless the restore defaults option in the nvidia control panel is used. Also I'd prefer a slider or inputbox in the control panel to set the value, but I would be happy if it would just stick to what I change it to in the registry.

I'll be glad to see that but for now it is working for me in 3dtv play by connecting it through my onkyo receiver. Alice madness looks great. Only one I tried so far.

Great to see so many AVSers on here /w00twave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00twave:' />

I really liked playing this game with convergeance set so that Alice is completely popping out of the screen. Can you get the same effect with the HMD? Basically the toyification effect where you create a ton of popout.

Sorry for the newbie question but how does 3d tv play work for us 3d vision users? With the 3d vision usb transmitter connected, it works like any monitor or do you have to do something specific to make it work?

From what I can tell the depth and convergence adjustability is the same as for my HDTV or acer monitor. It is a bit different adjusting without the double image as a guide but if you want toy fication I am pretty sure you can get it. On the Avs forum there is a lot of talk about weak 3d but I don't see that. I think it is a combination of most testers using console games and the optical illusions of total immersion in a total dark environment with the sony vs seeing screen edges and maybe even ghosting on a monitor/tv to give a "wow it's 3d" effect. The brightness and clean crisp colors are amazing in my book even though the head mount takes getting used to.

You use 3dtv play not 3d vision Yes that means lower resolution, etc but even though I am a believer in rollermod for my Mitsubishi 82 the quality of the 3d, brightness, and color of this hmz t1 seem like a fair trade for some games. I would never try a rts on this but first person games seem great so far.

Will be hitting refresh on this tab until this update comes out. Maybe I'll give the receiver trick a shot in the meantime, my receiver does have a 3d capable sticker on the front . . . but you never know. I've avoided running any HDMI through it after I caught it adding 100+ ms to my rock bank sync. My old analog receiver ran at 0ms.

In this case, the lower resolution is not a big deal, as the native resolution of the display is only 720p 60hz anyways :)

@andrewf@nvidia: Just out of curiosity: why do you guys need to release a "patch" for 3DTV Play in order to support the HMZ-T1? If your software fully supported the HDMI 1.4a specification, then that should ensure interoperability with any hardware that also supported this format. For example, I don't believe AMD (or any of their partners) needed to release a "patch" for their software and it already works with the Sony headset. Similarly, the Sony headset should work with any of the dozens of 3D Blu-Ray players released in the past year. No "patch".

We test pretty much test every TV we support. This includes adjusting size for convergence, depth, etc. The Sony is a grea example of that since it advertises that is like a 150" TV, but in reality it's more like 90, so we have to adjust the settings.

We've been releasing 3DTV Play Updates in between driver releases for a while now. It allows us to add support for products without requiring you to download an entire new driver. Eventually the support will be rolled into all new drivers going forward.

Andrew, seeing people post on here on how they've gotten NVIDIA 3DTV Play to work by plugging the HMZ-T1 into a compatible receiver has got me thinking - does this mean on the other hand that if I want to run the HMZ-T1 with an AV receiver that is NOT explicitly supported, it won't work even after you've release the update?

I had always assumed that you needed the final output device to be tested (hence "adjusting size for convergence, depth, etc." would make perfect sense) instead of a device that justs passes through the signal to the final output device - what would the point in testing receivers for things like convergence or depth be if you don't know what's being connected on the other side?

Bottom line is that I was just about to get an Onkyo HT-S 3405 home cinema system for use with the HMZ-T1, but now I've seen that the HT-S 3405 isn't explicitly certified for 3DTV Play (although for instance the Onkyo HT-S3300 is, and there are tons of models from Onkyo that are probably very similar). Does this mean I wouldn't be able to use this particular model with the HMZ-T1 as it's not on the whitelist?

Just surprises me that the whole "we need to test it first to ensure the best consumer experience" argument would fall apart completely if you could use the HMZ-T1 without any certification as long as you have a certified receiver but not use it (even with certification) as long as the receiver is not certified...
