Frame rate cut in half?
When I am playing a game in 3d is the frame rate showing accurate or should I effectively half it?
As the image is being split by the glasses does this effectively half the visible fps of the game im playing?

Should I be shooting from a frame rate of roughly double that of a non 3d game?

P.S I love the kit got my 3d bundle last week and ive been busy replaying all my old first person shooters.
Fantastic piece of tech!

Yes, going into stereo mode will more-or-less cut your fps in half in most games as your gpu(s) basically have to calculate & render everything twice to get the effect. SLI can help counteract the performance dip.

Thanks for your reply however think about it like this;

After the 3d is activated my game tells me its running at 40fps.
If this image is being split by the glasses am I effectively seing an image running at 20fps in each eye?

If this is the case then you will need to be able to play the game at 4 times the minimum fps to make it look good in 3d?
My logic is largely based on assumptions here so please feel free to wade in with technical/physiological reasons why this is not the case

bullcrap /whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />
it doesn't matter how much fps your game delivers. you monitor always stays in 120hz mode, resulting in 60hz per eye. when you got a low fps in game, some images may be shown multiple time between the shuttering, but you don't have to care about it. Just get your preferable fps for a fluent game like always.

What kind of video card do you have ?

I have a gtx 280 and I've never seen the fps dip anywhere near unplayable during 3d applications.

Smooth as hell actually.

If you have anything less than a GTX 280 1gb, I'd suggest upgrading.

I play everything i have with just two 9800gt 1gb fine. I'd say anything below the 8000 series might be a problem butyou don't need a 280 and up to play and enjoy games in S3D

Makes sense.
I'm running a GTX285 so Ive not had anymajor fps issues. It was more out of curiosity. Far Cry 2 says its running at about 20fps but at times i thought it looked quite a bit lower. Thats when I wondered about the shutters and anypossible effect they could have.
The idea of the shutters simply showing you multiple images of the same frame makes perfect sense.

Nope you certainly don't 'need' it, but it will be much nicer than 2 9800's, a single 8800 or whatever else..:)
