Stereoscopic 3D in Maya 2009 is working fine for me. Its tested with following Hardware & OS

Regarding which Quadros support 3D Vision, Nvidia's Quadro page says:

"How do I enable Quadro Quad Buffered Professional Stereo?
Quad buffered stereo is enabled with any quad buffered stereo application, 3D stereoscopic glasses and NVIDIA® Quadro® FX high-end and ultra-high end solutions. Quad Buffered Stereo will be supported with the NVIDIA 3D vision glasses in upcoming driver release by spring 2009."

Their Quadro pages linked below classifies these cards as either high-end or ultra high-end, and as such, should do the quad-buffering trick:

The current ultra high-end cards are:
FX 5800
FX 5600
FX 4800
FX 4800 for Mac
FX 4700 X2 (2 GPUs)
FX 4600

The current high-end cards are:
FX 3800
FX 3700

Setting S3D for Windows XP

Download the 64-bit Vista 3D Vision only driver and extract the contents to their own folder. (If you use the executable, you'll get an error message telling you your OS isn't supported and the installation will abort.)
Navigated to that folder, find the nvstereo.inf (3D stereo driver) and nvstusb.inf (stereo usb driver) files and install them by right-clicking them selecting 'Install' from the menu.
The emitter will be detected now.
