3D Vision Pro with GTX 680?
I'm planning to upgrade my fanless Sparkle GTS 450 with the upcoming fanless Colorful GTX 680. With my Quadro 5000 there came a pair of 3D Vision Pro glasses which I unfortunately can't use because the Quadro doesn't come with HDCP and HDMI 1.4a. My question: Will I be able to use the 3D Vision Pro glasses with the GTX 680 board?

Interesting question. I'd guess "probably", but I really have no idea.

Quadro cards are HDCP compatible, provided you are not using a VGA connection. If you want to use 3D Vision/3D TV Play with a Quadro card, you need to install a seperate 3D vision driver. I know that 3D Vision Pro glasses connect to the Quadro cards via a 3 Pin connector on the card. GTX cards do not have this connector. But they still might work if they also can function with the consumer version USB drivers.

from the FAQ: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dvision-pro-faq.html
Can I use 3D Vision Pro on a NVIDIA GeForce GPU? Yes, but application support is limited to the same games, movie players and lifestyle applications as 3D Vision.
Sounds good to me. So you might not be able to use it with some specialist applications, but you should be able to use for games, just like the rest of us. And the 680 is a good card, so you should get decent performance, too.

If I understand this image from the user guide about using an LCD screen correctly, the 3-pin plug is optional. It also seems to suggest that HDMI isn't necessary (seems to be only used for DLC screens). What components exactly are you using?

3D Vision Pro glasses are Radio Frequency (RF), not IR like our cheaper 3D Vision. Has it's own pyramid, but it's RF instead. They are also wireless, and RF means no line of sight problems.

Actually I want to use it for occasionally watching 3D Blu-ray movies. That's why I'd require HDCP and HDMI 1.4a. My DELL Precision M6700 came with the Quadro 5000 and a pair of 3D Vision Pro glasses. After recognizsing that the Quadro 5000 doesn't provide HDMI 1.4a, a GeForce 780M would have been my card of choice if the DELL was available with that graphics card, but you can only order the Precision M6700 with a Quadro 5000 if you require CUDA. The pyramid connector apparently has been built into the notebook. Since I currently don't have no application for 3D Vision Pro on that notebook I'm now trying to get a chance to use it on my desktop PC. But I couldn't find any information on using 3D Vision Pro with the GTX 680. So, it would be cool to know if something similar to the on-board pyramid was available for the GTX 680 so I can still use my 3D Vision Pro glasses now. Your help is very much appreciated! ---- PS: I didn't get any e-mail notification about replies to this thread so I believed I didn't get an answer. Can anyone please tell me where I can configure this forum to automatically subscribe to threads one's participating in?

The feature to subscribe to a thread is not available on this forum. For your desktop, you'd want to buy the 3D Vision kit which uses an ir sync signal. Nvidia does not sell emmiters seperately and the pro glasses need a RF signal. Unless you can find something on e-bay, pro kits are around $700. Does the M6700 have a BD ROM drive? If not buy an external one. Then buy Arcsoft, Cyberlink or Corel for 3D Playback. Better yet if you have no intentions of playing games, buy a 3D HDTV and Blu-ray player for watching "movies"

Yeah, this forum software is lame. No idea why NVidia wastes time and money writing their own. That is exactly the kind of stuff that is not in your core interests and should just be bought. @Axel: You should just try it with your current 450. There's not a lot of difference between generations, and if it works there, it will work with a 680. I'd expect this to work just fine, assuming you've got the Pro pyramid.
