Is it a special branch for overclocking? The only tests I can find about is 9900k.

It seems the 4970K is still solid at anything above 1080P. (on a 2080Ti). But what they don't show is how much GPU bound they are! I believe the GPU starts to get saturated! So the real comparison is at 1080p.

So I got my new i9 9900K CPU and Asus MAximux XI Hero mobo (I overclocked the CPU to 5.2Ghz and the Memory is at 4Ghz - DDR4 obviously). With my old i7 4970K @ 5Ghz in 2D (1080p) I was getting this: 2D - Single Screen - DX11: 37 FPS With the new i9 9900K I am getting this: 2D - Single Screen - DX11: 56 FPS All the settings are the same! As I didn't change them! (But then again, a new MOBO + RAM, new drivers, etc!) The new CPU definitely helps (it almost doubles the Framerate), but the fact that I can't get 60 FPS in this area/location on a 9900K + 2080Ti in 2D on a single screen show exactly, what I've said: No amount of CPU power will fix it. This is definitely a bottleneck in the game renderer in DX11! For the record in DX12: I get way over 100 FPS in the same location!!!

Prior to buying one, if you own a Z370, you'd want to confirm compatibility on your motherboards support page. To accept a 9900K on a Z370, you'll need to update the motherboard's Bios. So make sure there is one available prior to purchase. The Z390 Mobos have support for the newer wireless feature with more bandwidth as well as better USB 3.1 support integration (native vs 3rd party).
