I have been playing Tombraider underworld, and to play in 2d is to completely mis judge jumps and distances!!! I thought "Woaaa, how did I manage before!! This has gotten difficult !!"
I've found now that games in 2d just can't touch the mind blowing experiences like 3d pulls off. The ones where you wish someone else could be witnessing the awesomeness too !! /shock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (ghostbusters my most recent experience, grunty rig required:p)
Agree completely. Tomb raider underworld is fantastic in 3D (except for the occasional wierd artifact in which areas of the floor appear to receed intermittently).
This game and Mirror's Edge is much easier to play with 3D on as the platforming benefits from binocular depth perception!
I also play FPS only singleplayer (or campaign coop).
CODMW2 is an amazing experience in 3D (use cheathappens trainer to slow down the action, you will be amazed at the immersiveness of the experience!)
Also it is a misconception that you need to refocus in 3D, actually everything is in perfect focus at every depth (which is not true in real environments). For extreme dept changes your eyes do have to change convergence however. Thus it is usually better to set depth high and use less convergence in 3D settings. It takes practice but the additional cue of stereoscopic depth perception can actually improve performance in many games.
I do not think I will ever play any game in 2D again. If it does not support 3Dvision I will not buy it.
Well earlier you expressed the sentiment of being a competative MW2 player ... 3D Vision won't help you play better, as we all know. However, a 3D Ready monitor is worth the cost just for the 120hz refresh rate alone. I wouldn't recommend returning the display.
Like I said, I bought a 3D ready monitor and really never planned on getting the glasses and emitter. I bought it because you can see fast moving objects more clearly and thus interpret what they are faster in turn giving you a fraction of a second faster reaction. And, yes, my play in CSS improved with the jump from 60hz to 120hz. Very noticably improved. 120hz lcd is as close at the moment as you can get to a CRT for competative gaming purposes.
You have a good point MistaP, I am sure the 120hz will improve my game a bit, but in my opinion that is not worth the sacrifice of a 24" IPS LED Apple Cinema Display, which looks clearly better on my fully Mac equipped desk. The 120hz coupled with 3d Vision would have been enough to justifiy, but since I don't really play any 3d games, it is not worth ruining my desk for.

i wouldnt say everything is in focus all the time. I would say that everything on screen is sharp at all distances at the same time, but not in focus. Im probably wrong.
What i mean is, when i look at something at the front of the stage, my eyes are set at a certain angle. This allows the two images to be overlapped perfectly thus giving me a sharp single image of what im looking at. However, this means anything further back on stage (in my periphables) will still be sharp but in double image (as there is more seperation between the two images). So in order to change my view from front to back of the stage the angle at which my eyes are focusing must change (not the focal length, which stays the same). To me it is impossible to do this refocus at 0ms, so it will always be a disadvantage in fps games.
About the 120hz for fps. If you are as serious as you say about the competative side of mp, i would keep the monitor. I use a decent non tn 24 NEC display for everything except competative mp fps games. How you feel about 3d vision reducing your fps skill, is the same way i feel when going from my viewsonic 22" 120hz, to very expensive 24 inch 60hz panel. It is not just a difference of one or two frags a game, it is waaaay more significant. My main game is unreal tournament instagib mod. If i get 230 frags in wOOt ictf on 120hz, il get around 180 frags at 60hz. So at the end of the day i have traded in image quality in my fps games, for very smooth 120fps gameplay. Then for everything else i still benefit from the NEC monitor.
I guess at the end of the day, it depends how serious you really are. You seem semi serious as the grahics of the 3d experience does not make you play the game in 3d. However the jump back to 2d in my opinion is a waaaaaay bigger backwards jump (image wise) than 60hz ips to 120hz tn.

Thanks for the input scoop, the problem is, I can't run both displays at the same time for two reasons. First my desk looks crazy if I place 2 displays on it and the bigger problem, the apple Display requires a mini display port graphic card, which my ATI has but the NVIDIA does not. So its also technically impossible to run both at the same time and I can't use both graphic cards in the mac pro either because of the lack of power cables.

I feel for you! I use my ati for the 2d play, nvidia for the 3d, shame you cant do this :(
Im like you, will never play cod or ut mp in 3d, i end up shouting at my screen cos im getting owned when im used to winning ha. I guess the only way forwards for mp fps is locked servers/ or games that are only for stereoscopic players! Thats what im waiting for, would be immense.

Hey guys, i've been looking for a thread on 3DVision and MW2 and i found this one so i decided to ask for help/tips regarding my experience with 3DVision so far.
I have a i7 920 system with 12 Gb of RAM, Windows 7 64-Bit, EVGA 3-Sli Mobo, Dual 295s in SLi with a 1200w PSU and Alienware Monitor. I am mainly a MP player in both MW2 and BC2, but also play single player games.
So far ive been trying the 3DVision setup with MW2 online, and performance-wise it hasn't been as good as i thought it would be. Visually it is stunning, great sense of depth and no problems adjusting to the 3D experience, no glitches until now, but the performance is really bad, my framerate drops at least 45% when using 3DVision, in some cases the framerate drops to less than 25 fps, so i would like to know if it is normal or if there are any tips/settings that could improve this.
Hardware i think is not the issue, i think i got plenty of brass to run this game, i am running the game with VSync off, 1650 resolution instead of 1920, Antialiasing 2X instead of 4X, and of course latest NVidia drivers and 3DVision drivers. I will evaluate the single player games and MW2 in single player to check if it is an online-only problem. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

As a competitive COD4 player, if you want to be the best you can then you cannot beat 120hz but I found that 3d vision does help me with many things in the game and if I set the render ahead to 0 I get quite good "reaction" time and my score is all good again.
You may want to stick with it a bit longer...the added depth helps me a lot and the render ahead tweak is a BIG improvement.
It is all subjective really although I am totally with you. I am a competative CSSource player. I won't even attempt to play in 3D. One, you are right you are slower because you are having to refocus. Granted this gets better over time as you get good and focusing in and out like that, but i can't imagine it can be as fast as not having to focus. Two, with 3D on the computer has VSync enabled regardless of what you have in the game or nvidia control panel. This creates noticable input lag; no way around it that I know of and I have inquired.
Now, I know people who play a lot of TF2 and, in particular these people play demo man, they say they can't play half as good in 2D as 3D anymore. I snipe so the input lag kills it for me.
Overall it is up to preference, but it seems like you think and feel the way I do when in 3D and if so it is mainly a single player technology.
Well its interesting really. As I have found if you have stereoscopic 3d disabled in the control panel vsync is totally off. With 3D on and active you effective feel vsync at 60hz ... if you press the emitter vsync seems to stay on but it is at 120hz and thus the is much less input lag. It is almost unnoticable, but again if you are anything like me, it is still too noticable. Long story short I completely disable 3d via the control panel with I am playing CSS.
I do, however play a lot of single player games and non shooters multiplayer aswell, so the 3D was still a good investment in my eyes.
hmm, I disagree with the "skill" thing. I play COD4 regularly in a clan and have always been pretty good. Got my 3d setup and I got better! Seeing "shapes" moving instead of pixels is far better. Not only that but since I usually use my golden AK-47 with silencer and iron sigts, aiming with iron sights is much much better. I tried the MW2 free weekend on steam and ,in 3d, was owning 2nd and 3rd level prestige dudes. I had no problem aiming in 3d. I sorry you do buu. Maybe changing some depth convergence settings. Mine is set so the gun is "just out of the screen" depth at 15 to 20%. Iron sight aiming is perfect. Better than red dot.
BFBC2 is just stunning and perfect in 3d. All sights are depth adjustable and just work. So... no problems at all with BFBC2.

I think the key here, is to maintain a frame rate of above 40 fps, which is hard to do in BC2... As soon as the frame rate drops, it becomes hard for the eyes to keep track of those 'shapes'.... With my single gtx295, On big rush maps for instance I must play the game on lowest everything to keep it smooth. On single player, I can play it comfortably on the highest settings.
I think you need to be a lot more focused to keep your eyes tracking around in 3d effectively. But I notice that recently, every time I focus intently on tracking movement etc, i start dying less, and contributing more.
Overall, I think the power of your rig probably has a lot to do with it in 3d...

Overall, I think the power of your rig probably has a lot to do with it in 3d...
hmm, I disagree with the "skill" thing. I've found now that games in 2d just can't touch the mind blowing experiences like 3d pulls off. The ones where you wish someone else could be witnessing the awesomeness too !!

Im like you, will never play cod or ut mp in 3d, i end up shouting at my screen cos im getting owned when im used to winning ha. I guess the only way forwards for mp fps is locked servers/ or games that are only for stereoscopic players! Thats what im waiting for, would be immense.

Thank you in advance...
