Guide to getting Optoma HD66 to work with CD1.27 (and possibly higher) drivers.
I'm certainly surprised if that worked. If you would like to create your own driver for the viewsonic you can using RivaTuner to extract the EDID information (need to use the non-modified VGA-toDVI adapter for that).
thats what a tried in the frist place.. but even do i set the max refresh rate on rivertuner to 120, when i save the .inf and install it i only get 85hz.. thats when i use the optoma .inf

i must have been doing something wrong.. but i cant guess what it is.. /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

My laptop only has an HDMI-out. Would I need to get an HDMI to DVI adapter, connect it to a DVI to VGA adapter, and pull the pins from the DVI-VGA adapter? Will that projector remain unsupported?...'cause I'm tempted to just kick Optoma to the curb and try to mail the projector back to Amazon. Is there anything thing else I'd need to know to get it to work with a laptop?

Besy way is to try it braination... I don't really know. I would think it WOULD work, but can't guarantee anything. I think HDMI to DVI adapters are pretty cheap. The reason why I wanted the HD66 so badly is due to the great 2d movie watching that can be done on it.

If movies aren't your thing, I personally would suggest sending it back. There are other issues that may never get resolved, such as the heavy loss of black levels when switching to 120hz mode due to DLP link engaging and adding additional light to the image.

You can't go HDMI -> DVI -> VGA just through cheap adaptors.
To do it just google HD Fury adaptor.
Not that cheap but it is a pretty nice solution.

If I connect an 'HDMI to DVI' cable from my laptop to the HDFury adapter will it work? Is it even a worthwhile fix, considering I still got time to mail the projector back? Does it sound likely that they'll properly support the projector considering the projector was made for DLP Link glasses? I wouldn't mind waiting for an updated driver but I don't want to be stuck using a "fix".

You only need the HD Fury for HDCP compliancy as far as I know. But i could be wrong on that.

Brain, I'd send it back if I were you. There are other issues with the HD66 apart from the driver issues, such as the excessive lowering of contrast when 3d mode is turned on.

I thought your laptop has a HDMI only out, so HDMI out from your laptop to the HDMI in on the HD fury and than it would be a vga cable out from the Hd fury to the projector.
Snap the one pin needed on the VGA cable to disable EDID and then your sorted. It says that is what this device is designed for, displays or projectors that only have a VGA in so then can still get a HDMI signal happening.

The only difference then to the H5360 would be wearing glasses upside down, which to be honest doesn't really feel any different to wearing the right way up after about 2 mins using like this.

I have asked on here for a user H5360 user to help me by getting their monitor.inf file and extracting their EDID from registry but haven't had any bites yet unfortunately.
Want to try something to see if I can get the glasses up the right way, we need more skilled people who can start hacking this crap ass lock down Nvidia have going on seriously just makes me see red.

The only other 3d projector I see as an option at this point is the Acer H5360, but the contrast ratio is 3200:1 rather than 4000:1. Does that make a visible difference? Most of what I will be doing is 2d movie watching, but having those "Little Sisters" in Bioshock reaching out of the wall at you sounds really cool. I'm a little tempted to just return the projector and wait for more options to hit the market though.
I'm certainly surprised if that worked. If you would like to create your own driver for the viewsonic you can using RivaTuner to extract the EDID information (need to use the non-modified VGA-toDVI adapter for that).
Hi Mourt, thanks heaps for your inf file. Ive got to use this Optoma inf at the moment since I cant update my projector firmware yet to enable 3dvision compatibility.

The viewsonic projector can actually do 1280x800 @120hz, but this mode is not available with your inf file at the moment.
Would you mind putting an edid override in your inf file to enable this mode?
You can use Pheonix EDID designer to do it.

You would be such a champ!
All us pjd6531w owners would be stoked :)
But i have a problem with the optoma. When i see videos at 85Hz, the contrast is perfect, i think around 3000:1, but when it work in 3d mode, at 120hz, the contrast is a lot less, i think around 300:1, the blacks go up to the double, and the whites go down at a half.
Is this normal?
yes!! H5360 does the same . Its disgusting imho. Multiplexing 2x60hz at this cost is seriously not cool. Im gonna try 85hz immidietly.
