Silicone Micro Display ST1080 HMD - 3D Vision Compatible? Do I need to buy 3DTV Play to use this?
  1 / 2
I just got my new ST1080 in the mail and was wondering if I needed to buy 3DTV Play to use them. I was planning on replacing my current HDTV with an Asus 27" 3D monitor in June but was wondering if I would need 3DTV play to
use this on my PC. I know Sony's HMD is compatible and was wondering if how long it would take to have the ST1080 made compatible. Thanks.

Have you used the ST1080 at all yet? How is it?

Wow...Nice piece of hardware. You should install the 3DTV play 14-day trial asap...

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-14day-trial.html

1. Set Seterescopic to "ON" in the Nvidia control panel.

2. In your game set the resolution to 1280x720. It will pop into 3D mode.

You should get the Dirt : Showdown demo going and report back on how awesome it is.

just started using them. I'm typing this message with them on. It's a little weird at first but i'm getting used to it. I tried to set up 3D just now and went through the setup process but the settings are still greyed out on the
control panel. I'll give that 14 day trial a go and report back. Yeah, it's pretty bad ass.

when you install 3DTV play it might pick up your device...if not Andrew can get it to work. It supports basic framed-packed 720 and 1080 3D.

anyone can photoshop the nvidia 3DTV logo on the horse and put it in nvidia colours and the smd logo and colours on the car? /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Hoping on Andrew, who seems to have a big todo list...

If i were him, i wouldn't know what to do first, bugfix, features, or new device... what part of the forumusers cry louder, if they get pushed back...

How is the focus on them? Are you able to get a completely in focus image across the entire screen? Do you notice a pixel grid? How comfortable is it to wear? How much do the colors pop? How is the black level?

I have the sony hmd and those are the things that I'm really curious to hear about on the ST1080. The sony has great color and black level but I am not able to get a completely in focus image across the entire screen with mine. It also has comfort issues. The pixel grid is visible on a really bright screen but that really isn't an issue for me. thanks for any impressions

was more ment as answer to some questions from fella1,
as for 3DTV Play, wasn't able to find anything here, on the veda blog, on the smd blog or on mtsb3d :(

But hoping NVidia got one on Preorder too /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I can test it in about 2-3 Weeks as currently the first Day of the -100 Dollar Preorder is shiped, and i bought on day 18(after resolutions i needed were officially announced)...

Sweet...I think Nvidia is eager to get it supported. There probably are not many available right now.

I've been considering an HMD, but the HMZ looked like too much of a pain just to get it on your head, which alone kinda kills it for me. The ST1080 is definitely more appealing, but I really wish I could see how the colors looked, so I can tell if the drop in quality is something I'll really notice and care about.

My god... reading this review gave me a migraine. Anyway, with these bad boys hitting the market, we should have more reviews hitting the internets... hopefully much better than this one... wow.

Ok, totally confused right now. In his #4 Review of the ST1080 the Veda-guy goes into detail concerning console gaming and 3D console gaming in particular. Despite of the excellent 3D he states that the ST1080 should NOT be your choice if you are a Console-3D-Gamer because the screen will be minimized to 60" instead of the full 100" due to the 720p-limitation of the Consoles which causes the ST1080 to display only a smaller picture.

As far as I remember he mentions this 720p --> smaller screen problem only for Console-3D-gaming and not for PC-3D-gaming. That is the point that confuses me. Afaik using Nvidia 3D Vision you are bound to 3DTV Play to enable your ST1080 - PC connection. But 3DTV Play is also limited to 720p @ 60Hz in 3D mode. Shouldn't the problems with the small screen the Veda-guy mentions only for Console-3D-gaming exactly be the same for the PC - ST1080-3D-Connection?

How is it possible that he didn't mention the small screen when he wrote about PC-3D-gaming in conjunction with the ST1080?
