Resident Evil 5 is getting Steamworks support, losing 3D vision support.
  2 / 3
They completely removed all references to it being ported over to Steamworks. Elsewhere people involved have said that it's because they're having problems getting it through Cert with MS. They need to cert with MS in order to be allowed to transfer the save files over from GFWL to Steam. Also, I'd imagine they're not fixing 3D Vision support because they are adding in the DLC that never came to PC. Any shaders that got implemented with it would probably not work with 3D out of the box and they don't want to bother making it work correctly.

Don't a lot of games run 3d vision just fine though even though they don't necessarily support it? Like final fantasy 13. I hope they don't go out of their way to block it. I really wanted to see Excella's bodonkadonk in 3d vision on Mercenaries. Taking that away is a crime against humanity.

So its released. Bad news: Some stuff is sort of borked. Very slightly, but it's noticeable. Good news: Convergence seems to be unlocked by default now! It also seemed like in the very intro to the game, there was a ghosting effect in the left eye, but after the first cutscene it disappeared, so I don't know if it'll stay present throughout. Overall it's totally playable thus far, and I'd even go so far as to say it still looks really great.

I didn't get far in it, mostly messing around with things. They changed it from using a 'launcher' exe to Select either the DX9 or DX10 version to just using the Launcher.exe, so now the profile(s) don't work. I tried adding it back to the RE5 profile but apparently Launcher.exe is assigned to a bunch of profiles but this doesn't trigger any of them ... Lol. I had tried a few different ways of getting it to work via the profile, ways the other ones were using but couldn't seem to get them to work(Executable "launcher.exe" FindFile="ui/bnsclient.swf"). Anyway it was either delete it from around 5 profiles or make a new Launcher.exe that runs the old one renamed to RE5DX9.exe, I went with the latter but it didn't seem to have any noticeable affect on the area I was in, the Butcher Shop. The meat on the block was still 'off' and creating a halo around your head. For some reason running the old DX9 version just seemed to crash on me, it did create a ShaderDump but I'm not sure if it was complete or not, HelixMod does work with the new version ... so there's a little hope there. I was messing around moving files from the old version to the new version, like the Shader.arc file. It seemed to fix some issues, not sure if making a Dump with this in place might help in making a fix or not, I'll probably give a try though. Weird that they scrapped the DX10 version altogether but I'm really glad they did as there really aren't any ways to deal with DX10 games and that was my biggest concern ... not being able to try anything at all. :)

Hmmmm... I'm really glad I made a back-up of the original game right now;)) I will check the updated version as well and see how broken it is;)) From what I understand is still very playable in 3D Vision no?

Wow, capcom just did a seriously nice thing! That's a best of both worlds approach, where if you want the old version, you can get it via the Beta tab, and you can get the new version via normal update. That should mean that we can get the original version with 3D through the Beta tab.

Guys, this is not Capcom. This is Nvidia failing to support their failed product. How many NVIDIA branded recent releases support 3d Vision? Nvidia is a crap company anymore.

I won't cut NVIDIA any slack when it comes to drivers and support for 3D Vision but when it comes down to the games not working with 3D Vision that's on the developers. 3D Vision is a proprietary API, like Glide, A3D, etc., it only works on NVIDIA hardware and in the end it's up to the devs if they want to use it or not. NVIDIA gives them the documentation on how to utilize it for free ... they just don't. I blame the companies that make the engines more so than I do NVIDIA as far as game support goes, Unreal Engine released a statement early on that they were supporting 3D Vision and regardless most games were broken and needed to be fixed. I blame NVIDIA for lack of user/driver support, features, and not developing the necessary tools for users to fix their own games or at the very least disable effects, like TriDef ... well that and dropping OpenGL and <DX9 support.

Lost in nightmares looks just awesome in 3D. I'm sad it was so short :( I didn't see any problems with 3d like in the classic missions.

And it's not like they did for 3D support, they did it for the split-screen co-op support, but it's still a great approach to not simply disable prior versions.

This game worked in 3d vision for me even after the update but now its stopped working? When I launch the game on my 3d vision monitor (asus vg278h), the 3d vision light will turn on for a second then turn off. The game loads and is a bit choppy and I can only enable 60hz for my refresh rate. I have a XB270hu as well and im not sure if that was interferring. Gsync is automatically disabled when 3d vision is enabled, i tried setting both monitors to the same refresh rate/res, then disabled the xb270hu via nvidia drivers. Still not working. Any idea what could be wrong? I have a gtx 980 ti, windows 7. Also 3d vision works fine on all other games so I think its an issue with the game itself. EDIT: NM I FIXED IT. not sure if it was entirely deleting my re5 folder and restoring the backup I made before the update that did it or simply uninstalling my graphics driver and installing the new one that did it but it works now.
