"Yeah for 3D!" Trine 2: Complete Story PS4 comments
Thought this might be interesting to follow the comments for this as people start playing the game. Theres quite a few very positive 3D comments, zero negative and I think this is just the beginning with this new generation. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/11/14/trine-2-complete-story-coming-to-ps4-tomorrow/

Great find Libertine! I wouldn't like to be in the same room when their brain explodes after watching the incredible beauty of Trine 2 in 3D. If they don't become 3D believers with Trine 2 in 3D, nothing will. Now I hope this is just the first of many. In some ways, PS3 has killed 3d gaming with the unholy trinity of fake 3d games + 3dtv market not being ready + real 3d games were a low res mess, now we'll see if they can fix the disaster they created.

Hey, interesting blog post and comments. It's pretty rare for commenters to actually say things like "yeah for 3D." In my reading of other 3D stuff, it could be my cognitive bias, but it seems to me that the 3D hate has died off a lot. I rarely see people taking the time to just bitch about 3D anymore.

Now they can bitch about 4K instead! People are stupid sheep that need to bitch about something. 90% of people bitching about 3D gaming, have never even tried it. I have friends now who LOVE 3D gaming and it's only because of me. They were so negative to the idea of 3D gaming, that they didn't even wanna give it a chance. Then, they come over to my place and see it and they all freak the fuck out. I wish I could just go around the world and SHOW people what 3D gaming is about. It only takes a few minutes to convert some people. I'm especially pissed that gaming developers and journalists have not bothered to experience 3D gaming.

I tend to assign the blame in the direction birthright is going. Most 3D is really bad. 3D in theaters has a hole host of issues. 3D on consoles tends to be terrible for all the reasons mentioned. I would also add framerate to his list however. I'm in the 60fps camp with all games. But when it comes to 3D, I think it's especially important. I think stereo 3D looks awful and fake with low framerates. It's crazy how something that looks fake and synthetic, magically comes alive when you can run it at/near 60fps. I think Sony's emphasis on 3D was a gimmick, however, to sell TVs. And now that market data shows it didn't sell TVs, I think they'll abandon it. It's great that Trine 2 supports it, but that's because it's a legacy game that was already done and required no effort for the port. I think we can see Sony's intention towards 3D via the fact the don't even support 3D Blu-Rays at launch on PS4.

Good find and great news! Personally I think the "3D Haters" fall into one of three distinct camps: - People that can't afford the hardware to drive it, so the technology is written off as "bad" or excused off as 'hate it' just because they can't use/have it. - First Person Shooter or very high frame rate gamers who never tired S3D gaming but automatically dislike anything that could negatively impacts their frame rates. - Those that have experienced crappy S3D ether in the theater or with some of gaming's less than 1/2 baked efforts. Trine2 is a low enough impact (CPU/GPU) game where the PS4 has enough horsepower to drive it effectively enough to present the gamer a decent S3D experience. @Paul: The PS4 does not support 3D-Bluerays? Egads! Shame on Sony.

In the meantime, ppl hated 3D just to fit in with the in-crowd or because they've experienced 3D Vision's constant configuring and eye burning hud displays :P I personally had no problems with theatre 3D.

Next gen console screenshot thread, gives an idea of what console ports can now look like. The Killzone shots look on par with Crysis 1 and 2 and what i've seen of 3 (very little). http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=716795

Okay, some reactions. People posting just to share [what WE fucking already know about Trine 2 and 3D in general] how amazing the 3D is. http://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/1qt0pv/tribe_2_looks_absolutely_jaw_dropping_on_the_ps4/ Its funny to me also because the first comment is, "I miss Tribes 2". Oh and the title of the thread says Tribe 2 lol. This of course has spawned all kinds of Tribes 2 comments... That was a great game, they should port it to the PS4 or the [meh imo] successor.

If a PS4 game could look as good as Crysis 3 this early in the piece, I'd be very pleased. Also a little surprised. [quote="bo3b"]In my reading of other 3D stuff, it could be my cognitive bias, but it seems to me that the 3D hate has died off a lot. I'm a bit of a graphics and upgrade junkie, but I remember reading a comment years ago that convinced me that 3Dvision gives most people eyestrain after more than an hour or so. I've always been a bit protective about my eyes, so I stupidly let that damn fool comment influence me for years. To the point that I only ever even considered 3dvision earlier this year, almost as an afterthought after having already spent so much time and money upgrading everything else. And of course....not a hint of eyestrain. If anything, 2D gaming gives me more eyestrain, since my eyes naturally want to change focus when I look at near/far objects, even though everything's actually at the same focal length. But if 3D haters are getting less numerous, I wouldn't get too excited about it just yet. It might mean that 3D is slowly gaining acceptance. Or it might mean that it's receded so much into the background that no one bothers to hate on it anymore. As Ghandi said, paraphrasing Schopenhauer, first they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. Naysayers generally only appear in reaction to a perceived threat to the status quo. No naysayers may be a sign that 3D no longer has a chance of changing the status quo.
