Yes I know the technology is dying so I'm not sure if its worthwhile....
But.. How do AMD chips fair with 3D vs Intel. Right now with my 930 some games don't play well with 3D due to lower single thread performance on the old boy.
I'm looking to upgrade though I am not sure to wait till Ryzen 2 or 10nm. From the little I've seen, I'd expect Ryzen might not be optimal with how winky 3D can be.
Any first hand experience. Obviously if its straiht 4K, AMD would be the buy since 4K is more GPU bound but 3D complicates things a little.
I do sometimes game on my 1440p monitor though with RTS games.

Microsoft stated in the past that they would only add support for new CPUs in Windows 10. They may have relented and added support to W7 & 8.1 Dunno.
W10 forced updates might break 3D support in the future Dunno
However W10 provides better multi threaded support

I think the problem of Ryzen CPUs is that old games are not optimized for its architecture. So these games might run a lot better on Intel CPUs in 3D mode while the difference gets smaller when playing current games like BFV which already have the Ryzen architecture in mind. But generally Intel still performs a bit better in games.
Concerning Win10 I read somewhere about a hack how to stop windows updates permanently but I forgot details. As 3D Vision has reached its end of support I will have to look for that hack again.

i9-9900K has a reasonable price for its great performance, among current Intel CPUs. Most notable is its single core/gaming performance when using 1-2 cores.

Just disable the Windows Update Service.

Why are people saying this? Why would a Windows update disale 3D Vision. I'd think it'd be an Nvidia update. What has Windows got to do with 3D vision. I like my updates... and some of those are security updates. Trying to sort through all of them each time would be a hassle. Unless there is a way to stop version updates.

What qualifies as old. Pre 2016?

Don't know any more if it was that easy. But I prefer the easy way! I only remember that despite disabling / stopping the Update service for Win7 it was started over and over again after a while. It utilized 50% of my CPU permanently and failed to download the updates lol :D. Then I upgraded to Win10 due to a new CPU. I'll try your suggestion and report back if it's not just that easy.
@Moujo: You're knew to 3D Vision so you can't know. Microsoft so far broke 3D Vision nearly every time when releasing a new feature update for Windows 10 (every half a year)! Installing security patches is safe but don't dare to install feature updates lol. Nvidia had to fix broken incompatibility every time then.

Yeah I think Windows Update is one of those pesky things you cannot kill completely?
Btw what do you qualify as older 3D games? We talking before DX12 like 2016? 2017? before that? I don't want to deal with single threaded issues with 3D again. Its so annoying not having your GPU fully utilized. Was gonna bank on Intel for that with my employee discount but I don't wanna spend more than I need to if Ryzen or Ryzen 2 does the job. I can nab a 9900k for 247

I upgraded last year, and from what I've gathered, if you wanna run Win7, intel z370 chipset is safe (might just have to tinker a bit) but with z390 one can expect to have issues, it's not supported at all.
250 for 9900k tho, dang that's nothing.
you could always run it on a z370 that supports it via bios update, I guess.

Wait, are you saying the latest Intel chipset doesn't support 3D vision? Why would it need to if its all dependent on Windows 10 and nvidia driver version

I'd definitely go for intel, although prices are insane at the moment.
Problem is, AMD may be even as slow as overclocked Intel from 2011 and even new Zen won't allow AMD to catch up to more modern ones like 6700k.
no, not 3D Vision, just running Win7 at all.
z370 was the last chipset that offered compatibility, and it's incomplete.
it was a challenge getting my usb and network to work properly, and I don't get wifi.
