hey guys, i guess you have been discussing about this question for a long time. but i am new here. so, what do you think about playing 3d games on 3d TV? Is that possible? can I just hook up the 3D TV to my computer with an HDMI cable and have everything in Direct3D in real 3D?

@DHR, so is 3DTV Play like a video card driver? what happens with NVidia's native 3dVision driver? Do I have to buy 3DTV Play to send 3D signal to 3DTV?
@sammaz, did you get any other stuff other than an NVidia video card and a 3DTV in order to play 3d games and 3d bluray on your 3dtv?

"Do I have to buy 3DTV Play to send 3D signal to 3DTV?"
Yes. But there is a fully functional 14-day trial so you can test and make sure everything is compatible before making the 40$ purchase.
"Did you get any other stuff other than an NVidia video card and a 3DTV in order to play 3d games and 3d bluray on your 3dtv?"
No, you just need to download the 14-day trial after you get your Nvidia card and compatible 3DTV.
Make sure you have a Xbox360 controller also. You will want that for playing on the big-screen. Using a Keyboard + Mouse doesn't feel right in the living room.

what do you think about playing 3d games on 3d TV?
Works great! I have a Vizio 32" 3DTV with a HDMI cable. You only need one cable, I would suggest 6' long because 3' is too short on most systems. I was a bit confused when I started because my video card had 2 HDMI outputs. This is just used for 2 separate monitors and has nothing to do with 3D. My TV uses polarized glasses (passive glasses) so no extra cost there. And you can get free spares by keeping the ones they give you at the theater for 3D movies.
Yes, you do have to buy extra stuff from NVidia to make it work. They used to give us the stereoscopic stuff for free but now that more people are interested they charge you for it. You will need to shell out about $40 for Nvidia software and also a 3D Blueray player software (Like Cyberlink Power DVD version 11 or up) if you don't have that already and you intend to watch 3d blueray videos from your computer. Some people just use a hardware player they buy at the store for 3d blueray.
There are free players like Bino for many other types of 3D videos.
Most modern games work great on NVidia 3D Vision. But their games list is woefully out of date so just discount that. Just Google whatever game to see if people have had any luck playing it on 3D Vision.

Thank you, now I fully understand the concept. :-)
@3DWolf
I thought ALL the Direct 3D games (or at least almost all) support 3dVision therefore support 3DTV play. Is that just my misunderstanding? If I enable 3DTV Play, will that cause framerate drop dramatically? I tried 3DVision before, it made a 3D game like a slideshow.
Also, besides Cyberlink and Bino, what other 3D video/MPO player do you recommend?

In a perfect world anything with the 3D Vision logo would be good to go. But many games will claim compatibility only to have so many aberrations as to be unplayable, like water or mist showing only as 2D (hurts your eyes when everything else is 3D). So, some games are much more compatible than others. Also, the compatibility list NVidia has is so out of date that you can't trust it. Many games listed there simply no longer work with 3D Vision. And, just because a game is DirectX/Direct3D doesn't mean squat. It certainly doesn't mean that 3D Vision will work with it. You will want to Google the game and find out. There are some sites that also may help like Meant to be Seen and Meant to be seen - Game Grade ..There are other game sites also. Just don't trust any one source. Get reviews from the actual users. It is the only way to know for sure. Everything else is total BS and is meant to take your money.. And seriously, check out game play on Youtube to see if you even like the game. I decided against a few just because they weren't my style (I like action, FPS style. Not a bunch of D&D or detective crap. Yak yak yak just isn't me! LOL.)
You can turn on/off the 3D drivers with just a key stroke. And it shouldn't drop your frame rate noticeably, I guess it depends on what system you have. On any modern quad-core with a Geforce card above 275 (I have the Geforce 275) everything is so fast it really doesn't matter. Some games let you turn the detail up and can drop frame rate but just adjust it to a sane value and your fine.
I can't think of any other software to get. Bino and Cyberlink are good. It's really about all you need.
Of course, there is also the Fugi Finepix 3D camera or a GoPro 3D video camera. You had better have a good job though...

Be carefull of what you buy, do'nt be pushed into a big plasma and 3dtvplay, google around some off forum and see what good info is out there as i believe you will be pushed into a plasma and 720p 3dtvplay gaming.
I personally think this is extremely low quality 3d, so badly so it resembles a xbox graphics /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />.
I'm just here to say there is more to this than meets the eye /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I have no idea what you are saying here. I think you are hinting at playing on a passive 3D TV, but even with certain 'tricks' it's far, far worse then playing 720p frame packed on an active shutterglass set. 720p may be a lower res then 1080p, but the thrill of playing in 3D makes up for it, plus with technology as Iso filtering and AA, PC games look better then there console counterparts in 720p. The other alternative is buying Nvidia Vision with a 120hz DVI monitor, which is the only true option for playing 1080p 3D games at 60hz, however they don't come any larger then 27".

I wouldn't buy an HDMI only GPU for intentions of using 3D.
HDMI 720P only is a rip off and HDMI 1080p@24ghz is crap on the good 3d games.
I wouldn't bother with HDMI right now until they start supporting 60hz.
DVI is the way to go because for the money 1080p@60hz should be standard on all 3DVision

For passive 3D TVs 1080p interleaved is the way to go. It does not look as good as active glasses but is close enough for me. I can't stand the flicker of active glasses so passive is my only option.
3DVision supports passive displays natively. 3DTV Play is not required. And it looks much better than the 720p@60hz and 1080p@24hz you guys are trying to use.
Wish I could go into detail but NVidia only supports interleaved mode on certified displays... unless your creative :)

The best way to go is with a full sized native res, 3D Vision compatible, 3DTV such as certain samsungs and all Mits DLPs. Gaming on a tiny 27" screen is unsatisfying, may as well use a gameboy. OTOH, 3D gaming at 1920x1080 /60 fps on a full sized samsung/Mits is a very good experience.

hey guys, i guess you have been discussing about this question for a long time. but i am new here. so, what do you think about playing 3d games on 3d TV? Is that possible? can I just hook up the 3D TV to my computer with an HDMI cable and have everything in Direct3D in real 3D?
Thanks!

@DHR, so is 3DTV Play like a video card driver? what happens with NVidia's native 3dVision driver? Do I have to buy 3DTV Play to send 3D signal to 3DTV?

Yes. But there is a fully functional 14-day trial so you can test and make sure everything is compatible before making the 40$ purchase.

Cheers!

Thank you, now I fully understand the concept. :-)
@3DWolf
Thank you guys :-)

Cheers!

I personally think this is extremely low quality 3d, so badly so it resembles a xbox graphics
I'm just here to say there is more to this than meets the eye
The people that use 3dtvplay are very unlucky.
They either have a 3dtv that can only use nvidia's 3dtvplay as they brought the 3dtv first

Be carefull of what you buy, do'nt be pushed into a big plasma and 3dtvplay, google around some off forum and see what good info is out there as i believe you will be pushed into a plasma and 720p 3dtvplay gaming.

And this interleaved mode is supposed to be better than my 1080P@120HZ?
