3D Vision 2 Floating Glasses – easy mod ! How to create 3D Vision 2 Floating Glasses
/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' /> ---- 2 Mods (L1 and L2) to create 3D Vision 2 Floating Glasses ----

/heart.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Make your Nvidia 3D Vision 2 glasses litteraly to float in front of your nose! /heart.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Context :
After the creation of a mod (C3) for my HMZ-T1 (Sony Head Mounted Display), I have push a little further the idea for my new glasses 3D Vision 2 just arrived for Xtmas (with a LCD Asus 3D VG278H) : in fact these brand new glasses hurt my nose after a certain time of use...
So I have created 2 mods : /omg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omg:' /> L1 and L2 for Nvidia 3D Vision 2 glasses /omg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omg:' /> .
----------
The L1 mod is the easiest one to create, it’s really easy and quick ! :
Just create a counterweight (I have used 2 big bolts) and attached them on a nylon fiber, put them at the back of your head/neck , attached to the 3D Vision 2 glasses, and that’s all !
Of course, it must be heavy enough counterweight to prevent your glasses down your nose …
(The weight has not to be set very precisely, but must avoid as much movement in one direction than in the other).
This gives this as a result for the L1 /shock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> :
You will thus have no contact between the two 3D Vision glasses and your nose … /omg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omg:' /> And literally your glasses will float in front of your nose!
----------
If you wish, you can create a L2 mod more sophisticated /shock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> :
You will need a US cap type, and drill a (small) hole in the visor.
( My cap in the pictures had a big hole due to a mod made earlier to ease the port of my HMZ-T1, but of course you do not need to make such a big hole!).
Simply attach the glasses on one side and the other end of the line nylon to the "button" (for example) located on top of your cap, or the rear attachment to the neck (used to adjust the size) for example.
The tension is set such that glasses are raised just enough to avoid touching your nose , and especially not back down !
This L2 mod allows you to avoid the more unpleasant contact of branches on the skin of your head at the temples, to also avoid too much pressure, tiring in the long run ... /angel.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='O:)' />
If it can helps people like me were these 3D Vision 2 glasses could be painful to wear after a while … /hug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
/sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' /> Note :
This should also work for the first generation of the 3D Vision glasses...
Happy New Year 2012 in 3D with your L1 or L2 Floating Glasses !

Aren't you exaggerating? How uncomfortable can a pair of glasses be?
Sorry, but I have found the pressure on my nose due to the weight of the glasses not painful at the begining, but after more than one or two hours, it starts to be painful on my nose...
Take it also with a lot of fun in the text of my mod, (I have tried to put in it), but english is not my 1st language... /thanks.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thanks:' />

lol looks like a fun mod. I generally had more of a problem with the arms clamping on the back of my head more than the bridge of my nose, but if it bothered me I would definitely check this out. Great mod! /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hehe, good idea. However, if it's hurting your nose after an hour or two, then I would suggest NOT doing this until it starts to hurt. That will let your nose skin get toughened up. Eventually, you won't need the counterweight. (Or better yet, take a break!)

I'll keep that in mind thanks. :) I took care of the pressure problem myself some time ago though by wrapping the arms in soft adhesive acoustic foam. It doesn't look great but its infinitely more comfortable than the originals. Larger surface contact with your head, and its that really soft foam stuff. Holding up well almost 2 years later. I also stopped using circumaural headphones for the time being but may go back if I upgrade to 3DV2 glasses as it sounds like they do a much better job of handling them.
Its too bad so much of the electronics and battery are integrated into the arms, or I would try to take your mod a step further and just have the lenses attached to a cap or visor without the arms. :)

I insert the tips of the glassess above my ears between the head and the headphones so no pressure on the nose :)
I used to do this as well with my Sennheiser cans, not so much because the pressure on the nose, but because of the pressure of the cans on the arms behind my ears was like jaws of life painful back there after a few hours. I stopped doing this because I noticed severe ghosting in Mafia 2 and thought it was a game/3D Vision issue. Turned out that slight angle you have to tip the glasses to accomplish this is enough to increase top ghosting due to the angle of the screens in the glasses. So if you have any bad issues with ghosting in some games you may want to put the glasses straight on and see if that helps.

I love clever homebrew tricks like this.
And also, I find that the 3D Vision glasses aren't as bad as my edimensional glasses, those things wear horribly and hurt my nose in fifteen minutes.

The L2 cap mod let's you use the side part of the cap for the branches, so it may help for your "arms clamping on the back of my head "...

No more pains, no more weight on your nose !
So I have created 2 mods :
----------
The L1 mod is the easiest one to create, it’s really easy and quick !
This gives this as a result for the L1

You will thus have no contact between the two 3D Vision glasses and your nose …
----------
If you wish, you can create a L2 mod more sophisticated

If it can helps people like me were these 3D Vision 2 glasses could be painful to wear after a while …
This should also work for the first generation of the 3D Vision glasses...
Happy New Year 2012 in 3D with your L1 or L2 Floating Glasses !

I love clever homebrew tricks like this.
And also, I find that the 3D Vision glasses aren't as bad as my edimensional glasses, those things wear horribly and hurt my nose in fifteen minutes.
No more pains, no more weight on your nose !
