RTX 2080 incoming...

We don't know how it will function because up until now, only professional cards used it for things like AI. We'll have to wait to find out what abilities it has. It could even be that they are simply using the same PCB as the professional cards, and that the NVLink connector is completely disabled, i.e. the new cards might not support SLI nor NVlink :/ Personally speaking, with the projected ~35-40% performance increase, I likely won't be replacing my current cards with these, though perhaps I might be enticed to replace my SLi with a single new card as a "side-grade" to enable better supersampling in VR which doesn't support SLi. The Next gen (3080?) will be interesting/expected huge jump, as it will be proper 7nm instead of the current 2080's 12nm process.

I recall with the Voodoo 2 PCI card installing it and playing Wipe-out and it ran like sh** in 800x600 once I installed another card in the computer it was smooth as butter in 1024 x 768. The cards were PCI cards and it was an add on you still needed a primary video card I think the later Voodoo cards 3000-6000 worked like SLI because I have a few in the test lab. Buy the way I have a NV1 card that came with three Sega Saturn games (1995-6) purchased at Comp USA

Jack Ryder and sister look like they are 19, I think it's kind of lame that people tasked with saving all of Humanity are some pubescent, wet-behind-the-ears tweens. I like The Witcher 3, Max Payne 3, and Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain where the protagonists are older and I can relate with them. Seriously though, I'm only 5 minutes into ME:A and I'm already disappointed in this regard. At least with Commander Shephard the idea of him being a war veteran was at least plausible and hero defining. With Jack Ryder, what is this guy out of high school and now he's part of the Andromeda colonists and somehow is the person who saves everything? I guess, maybe younger kids might think this is great, but in reality, someone who is 19 with less life experience is unlikely to have enough experience to rely on to make sound tactical and diplomatic decisions and would, without sheer, absolute luck, meet certain failure. Solid Snake, Max Payne, and Geralt of Rivia are that much more bad ass BECAUSE they survived a LOT of situations at the age of what, 45-50 on average between the protagonists (Geralt is probably closer to 70 but his actual age is masked because he's a mutant, i.e. The Wolverine, Max Payne is probably 45-50 and Solid Snake, closer to 50, maybe 55.) The only young bad ass there is Peter Parker, a.k.a The Spider Man, whose half spider at this point, and Jack Ryder is no spider man (unless he's a really bad ass Biotic, if he's anything other than this Humanity has no chance, he can't be a bad ass Operative because he doesn't have enough experience to make him a bad ass operative / he would have to be an Operative right out of Operative training at the age of 19 unless we start training Operatives at the age of 12 in 2075 or whenever).

38. Adults writing dialogue/personality of characters that are <20 years old is almost always cringeworthy, whether it be for TV/Film/ or a game. If given the choice, I always like to play as a female protagonist; I usually give them my daughter's name :> I understand what you're saying. I have always, even when young, related much better with older actors/characters than the young ones.

If it's really going to be a 35 to 40 percent increase I might get rid of my current cards and just go to a single card solution, that should recap the SLI performance for less headaches overall. I just turned 40 =( lol I'm not sure its the age of the characters in Mass effect that's the concern Starman, Mass effect andromeda has god awful writing. I feel like I'm in a very bad american daytime sitcom in space.

I'm 27 and I still enjoy the high school stories of manga/anime and games :p. I don't care that much about the age of characters, but if the world depends on a 12-19 year old, it better be well explained. Like the first Gundam series, where the main characters got ahold of a spaceship purely by chance in the middle of a war and then built their reputation by trying to survive. The twitch countdown is at a bit less than 27 hours: https://www.twitch.tv/NVIDIA Thankfully I'll be at home and not at work by then.

So someone pointed out the Guru3D 1080 BW numbers are wrong, the BW is supposed to be 320, not 352... If I remember correctly, the 1080, memory bandwidth was just enough for the core. Faster memory didn't really make a tangible difference, while slower memory bottlenecked the GPU. If the 2080/Ti are the same (i.e. if memory bandwidth is a good indicator of GPU performance), then we are looking at: 1080 => 2080 = 40% overall performance increase 1080 Ti => 2080 Ti = 27% overall performance increase Just for fun: 1080 => 2080 Ti = 93% overall performance increase A lot of "ifs"; and of course it could use better compression to bypass memory B/W limitations; but I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed...
