Doh - thought I had add my signature before. I tried modifying the .inf files of an older driver to add my cards but the installation failed. I think I might be stuck using newer drivers with the compatibility mode added in. I know one thing, I have purchased my last set of cards for SLI. Even if Witcher 3, without or without decent 3D, works better for it I am tired of all the SLI issues of late. So does anyone have properly-rendered grass/foliage when grass is set to Ultra with SLI enabled? If so, I would like to know what driver set, card types, and any special tricks you may have done to make it work.
As a 700 Series owner, I'd like nothing better than to hear that all current 900 Series owners are having really great success with SLI, SLI scaling, and 3D with SLI. However, it's not sounding great at the moment, but obviously I can't speak with any first-hand knowledge at all on this to give my own opinion. It's still conjecture at this stage, but what vulcan78 speculated, certainly regarding 3D and SLI functionality being series specific might not be that far off the mark. Pre 900 series, my ideal rig for stereoscopic 3D would have been a 4-way SLI 780ti water-cooled system, using older more reliable drivers, specifically with respect to 3D gaming. Crysis 3 for example apparently scaled particularly well in 4-way SLI. That might be an important subject to be discussed in a separate thread, some other time perhaps. I've been holding back purchasing new cards so far, quite aside from the fact that I can't actually afford it right now, because of the trouble that people are having in 2D, never mind in 3D. In answer to your question, yes, I have grass set to ultra with no rendering issues. In areas that are mainly foliage the frame rate actually goes up in comparison to urban areas with their high pedestrian and traffic densities. It works well with the components my sig highlights, and no special tricks were required thankfully.

Running 2x760's with 2GB in SLI with 3D. Had a lot of issues initially but now all resolved. Using DX10.1 Fullscreen with 350.12 drivers. Nice find. Again 600/700 series cards appear to be having more luck so far. Is this configuration still working for you?
I've had no issues with this configuration - nothing at all. However when I change settings from the ones shown here (see attached jpg's) then things start to break. I can however (and would recommend) setting MSAA=2 and FXAA=ON. I turned them off because I'm using Reshade now. Again though, having freed up VRAM, as soon as I started changing things from the settings shown to take advantage of the VRAM freed up by Reshade things started to break. For example I figured Reshade was using Vram and I wanted more fps so I lowered my Very High settings to High. Suddenly I had problems with shaders not working, hangs and even 3D turning off, all things that had never happened before - and haven't happened since, once I reverted to the settings shown.
For those of you that have been having problems with 3d shutting off or GTA crashing, I've found a temporary solution. This is sort of a combination of posts from other users on this thread and others. GTA V tries to modify the 3d depth settings sometimes in an unconventional way which causes the driver to crash. I think it sets the depth to 0 or something like that. This shouldn't be happening of course, and while we cant "fix" the problem directly, we can block GTA from being able to modify the registry. The solution is part of a depth hack package by TsaebehT. It consists of two .bat files called "block" and "allow" which effectively modifies the registry permissions on nvidia driver stuff. You can get them here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qw1buw1rlo7ejyk/3d_reg_permissions.zip?dl=0 1. Start game and make sure your settings are set the way you like them, both video settings and 3d convergence/depth settings. 2. Exit game 3. run "block.bat" with administrator privileges 4. Start game and enjoy! 5. when you exit the game, make sure to run "allow.bat" with administrative privileges. You will have to allow it and block it every time you start and stop the game. Note that I still do get crashes on occasion but I'm not sure if those are because of 3d vision. Regardless, on average I get a couple hours without crashing. Before this fix, I used to crash every 0-30 min. My setup: 3rd gen i5 gtx 770 2gb 8gb sys ram asus vg248
Wonder if this works for DA:I as well which also had this problem. I know one thing for certain, that blasted KBupdate is going no where near my system after my drama with that game.

Just tried the "read only nvidia registry" solution suggested by DrKalamity and sgsrules. Didn't work. First game, 3D broke within 10 minutes. I used regedit to double check the permissions for the key in the batch file, it was definitely read only.

Have you left a support ticket with Rockstar? We need weight of numbers here in order to justify someone within their ranks to divert from company policy if only for a brief time, and have them post here to listen to everybody's concerns in one hit. I just think this approach would be more convenient all round. This really would be the best time to get their attention before that window of opportunity soon passes. Again, just link back to this thread on your ticket if you decide to do this. Thanks.

@cyrilp Very interesting indeed. I had disabled hyper-threading too, but obviously it's not making a blind bit of difference. I don't think that driver's doing you any favours, but of course I would say that. As I said to Rockstar on my ticket, that this game does look incredible in 3D when it works and thanked them for at least including a stereoscopic 3D option within this game's settings.

@Pirateguybrush The latest reply I've received from Rockstar support at Tier 1 requests video evidence of any graphical glitches. So I started recording my gameplay, and of course things never happen when you actually want them to. After endless driving around, the shadows eventually broke in 3D as I was recording it. Way hey..what a relief, except for one small problem. The video playback records the shadows rendered in picture perfect 3D at the correct depth with no evidence of a problem. I mean, would you believe it? Are you having any better luck than I am?
...Various notes: * As cpu usage is never geting close to 100%, i was able to set my CPU a lot higher than usual @ 4.5Ghz. Usualy even using a simple CPU benchmark tool crashes my computer above 4.0Ghz * Using the "prefer maximum performance" tip has allowed me to overclock the GPU. Without it no OC was possible, i was getting the "ERR_GFX_D3D_INIT" Crash. * As it's highly CPU depedent be sure you don't have any other software that use the CPU in the background, you would loose a lot ! * Disabling Hyperthreading doesn't change anything * Using the batch file that set an higher prority doesn't change anything * The only issue i'm having is the one eye text and grass * It's frustrating to see the cpu and gpu usage are so low, BUT as even with this issue it's really playable it means that solving even partly this problem will give you really good performance ! !!! GTA V looks so good in 3D Vision ! playing it in 2D is really a pity !!!
Awesome data, thanks for sharing your results. It seems like your results confirm RAGEdemon's experiment that only 3 cores are active, allowing you to OC higher than you otherwise would. It's also notable that overclocking BOTH CPU and GPU gave you respectable bumps in performance, implying no exact bottleneck, or at least a balance between them. With BOTH OC you went from 43 to 50 on pass 4 benchmark, a nice bump.
