Should I leave monitor at 120hz all the time?
I finally upgraded from a CRT monitor to the 2233RZ... really loving the monitor, 100hz to 120hz is so much nicer to look at.
What I'm wondering though, is if there's any reason to not run my regular desktop at 120hz? Does it use more power refreshing that much constantly?

You should NEVER, EVER use an LCD monitor at 120hz. It uses twice the power and will burn out twice as fast! ONLY USE IT IN GAMES!!!!!

I run mine at 120 ALL the time. It's designed for that no reason not to. I do however think I will set mine back to 100 Hz, it will still work fine and wont' use quite as much power.

I think it gets to a point, somewhere around 85hz, where it doesn't really matter anymore. Your eyes can not tell unless something is moving.

If nothing else the mouse is smoother.

If it can run at 120hz, it can run at 120hz and there's no reason to turn it down. It's designed for it, and that's why it costs $400 for a 22" LCD.

Edit:
Seems like more a waste energy to the spend time switching back and forth, than just setting and forgetting.

Obviously, I'm just joking. There is no reason to ever use 60hz. There are 0 downsides to 120hz.

I think the Samsung forces all brightness and contrast settings very high when in 120hz mode. So that could be a reason not to do it. I haven't found a way to tweak down the brightness when in 120hz, so I stay at 60hz.

I don't think that's the result of 120Hz, it's just the result of the monitor's insane 20,000:1 Dynamic Contrast ratio. And I agree, it's a bit hard on the eyes. As soon as I have time I'm gonna have to work on a "custom" setting that works for me, the Dynamic Contrast setting is a little heavy-handed.

If you have games that have low framerates and are vertically syncing then you want to run your monitor at 60hz as it will increase the framerates. Applications can be run at 85 hz or higher and they will flicker alot less (esp under fl. lighting) and yo will have less eye strain and fatigue.

Everything you just said is wrong.

running a vsynched game at 120hz will INCREASE your framerate over a vsynched 60hz. Every time. Also, LCD screens don't flicker like CRT monitors, because they don't refresh the same way. In a non-game situation, 60 hz makes 0.0 percent difference.

Just use 120hz and turn off dynamic contrast/drop the brightness. Solved!

Don't run it at 120 if you plan on watching blu-ray.

I noticed my 2233rz doesn't display anything until the desktop loads. Does this happen to everyone?

I do not have that problem. Mine is set as the primary in both windows (required for 3D vision) and connected to the primary video output on the video card.

I dragged the taskbar to the secondary monitor and use it mostly when not gaming.
