"Out of Range" error
Hello, When activating 3D Vision, I recently started to receive an "Out of Range" error on my monitor. I am using an ASUS ROG PG278Q monitor at 120HZ. 3D Vision has worked trouble free from the time I received it months ago and this problem just started suddenly. I have double checked all my settings to ensure 3D was properly set up and my refresh rate was correctly adjusted. There have been no changes to my video card set up or memory since I last had it working, Has anyone had a similar experience or any ideas on what may have caused this all of a sudden? Thanks! I had the same error a few times over the course of a day or two with my SLI 970s. If I remember correctly, I got the error whenever I would start a game or alt tab out of a game while running 3D, especially if the game was not at native resolution. At the time, I couldn't get my desktop back so I would restart my whole computer, which fixed the problem temporarily. Then I started hitting Alt-F4 as soon as the error popped up; that killed the game and sent me back to my desktop, so I didn't have to restart. I never found the exact cause, but I updated drivers, cycled the PC and monitor, and turned off 3D before I would alt-tab. For whatever reason, the monitor stopped giving me the error. I switched out my 970s for a 980Ti anyway, because as I'm sure you've heard, SLI on the Rog Swift doesn't play nice with 3D. Nvidia driver headaches, mostly. I really doubt the problem is with your monitor's hardware. Good luck troubleshooting

Thanks Westbrook. Definitely sounds like a similar issue since I couldn't get my desktop back either. I can't remember if I updated my drivers since the last time it worked, but that may have something to do with it.

Try plugging and unplugging your cables. This out of range error is typically a hardware response from the monitor which makes the 3D software think you are running out of spec, not at 120Hz. If the cabling is marginal, you can get errors like this. Another thing worth trying is to disconnect all of the cables from the monitor, including the AC power. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then hit the power switch with nothing plugged in. This drains internal capacitors that can hold bad state. Not sure this works on this monitor, but I know for sure it works on another Asus monitor.

Does anyone of you know if 3D vision works through HDMI @ 1080p@120Hz ? All hardware HDMI2.0 complicant offcourse. I can get my Geobox 3d multiplexer going with displayport at 1080p@120Hz 3d vision but i can´t get it to work with HDMI. But i can get Desktop working at 1080p@120HZ with HDMI and even almoust double resolution. Im using EDID hack, Is the output of GPU coded into the EDID, my thoughts are that at the time and currently there is no such thing as a 3D vision capable monitor that does it with HDMI and that why the EDID works with displayport and not with hdmi ? Is it possible to tweak the code of edid to allow this ?

3D vision supports 1080p@120Hz over HDMI 2.0 according to nvidia representive. Must be the EDID

They're limitations of 3DTV play, not 3D Vision. 3D vision (120Hz frame sequential) can be used over HDMI as long as you're not using HDMI frame packing. If you can get your desktop working at 1920x1080x120Hz that's one thing as it will prove the bandwidth is available. Getting 3dvision to work though would be down to EDID hacks and other trickery.

1080p@120Hz with HDMI. no problem works like a charm but no 3D vision gaming. gonna try the displayport to hdmi adapter if that fools the 3d vision software. Don´t have my hopes up though. I tried tons of different inf files. i think PG is speaking the truth. The drivers of 3D vision aren´t just coded to do so. And why would they as there is no displays that need 1080p@120hz framepacked. the ones that are capable have displayport. And Ain´t frame packing used to get the best current quality out of the 3D vision ? that SBS crap. who want´s it. ...smeagol

I agree it's a software limitation in that your display is not being picked up as a 3d vision certified display, but you can run 3d vision (not frampacked 3dtv play) over HDMI for sure. My old projector was a 3d vision certified display and ran 1280x720x120hx and 1280x800x120Hz over HDMI (3d vision frame sequential) no problems. That predated 3dtv play and HDMI 2.0 with it's bandwidth bump which is necessary for 1080p@120Hz. My point was just that the HDMI interface does not limit you to 3dtv play and it's HDMI 1.4a frampacked modes. My monitors are 3d vision certified too, but I had to wait before Nvidia enabled 3dvision over displayport. Have you tried the EDID for BenQ Xl2420T?
