Skyrim VR
  1 / 3
I know this isn't a VR forum but I was wondering if anyone has tried Skyrim out in VR and seen how it compares to 3D vision? I am very tempted to get a headset because of the positives reviews but am wondering if coming from 3D vision might be less awe inspiring...

I played Skyrim VR with Oculus for around 10 hours. Its not bad but not worth to buy a VR Headset for this game. The graphic is ok for a VR Game, but very very bad compare to 3DVision. Its a bit better with "many" mods. Anyway..1 hours and my Eyes get tired. Maybe better with Samsung Odyssey. Only Bow and Magic is funny. Melee Combat and Shields feels not that good. At the end..i am not sure if i woud buy it again. PS: i have to deactivate 3DVision in Nvidia Panel to play Skyrim VR. Otherwise it doesnt work correctly. Looks like 3dVision kicks in.

Thanks for the input. I think I would take the plunge and get a headset if I knew the experience would be awesome but get a lot of mixed messages. I am not majorly fussy with graphics to a point, but if everything is blurry then I'd find that difficult, after the clarity of 3D vision. I'm more into smooth frame rates so even think I could deal with the screen door. I need to try it out really but was of the mind that I'd leave VR for a few years and get the maximum impact when using headsets that have resolved the issues. but these positive reports of skyrim and Fallout 4 VR have got me interested again!

@Zythus Are you a clone of me, or am I a clone of you? ;) I've played exactly 10 hours of Skyrim VR in Oculus and would copy/paste your thoughts, including the PS. I'm pretty sure I will not spend 299 hours in the VR mode as I did in the heavily moded and 3D fixed version. @ritshski If you have never played the heavily moded and 3D fixed version of Skyrim you might last longer. ;)

Skyrim (normal and Special Edition) has some CPU demanding locations. How's performance in the VR version near and in cities?

I never finished skyrim, I think i put about 40 hours into the regular version and played it with 3DVision and a ton of mods before the DLC came out. I was very skeptical about getting it for VR especially after playing FO4VR which was a pretty shitty port, I was never a fan of FO4 to begin with. So far I've been loving Skyrim VR. Of course it looked better in 3D Vision, but it like comparing apples to oranges, you simply don't get the sense of scale or presence that you do in VR. I have about 100 mods installed, most of them are to increase immersion. I'm playing with no HUD or even a compass as well.
Skyrim (normal and Special Edition) has some CPU demanding locations. How's performance in the VR version near and in cities?
It actually performs really well. I'm running it at 200% super sampling with a bit of TAA and it looks great. I do get a bit of re-projection but I wouldn't have noticed it unless i had looked up my stats in SteamVR. I haven't noticed any performance drops around cities or other hot spots. Controls for archery and magic work really well, but as others have mentioned melee combat sucks. Play as a mage and you'll have a blast. If you own a Vive i would highly recommend it. It's not worth getting a VR system for but there are a lot of other good games available. I'm patiently waiting for Budget Cuts to come out next month.

It is absolutely mind-blowing. I have to force myself to stop playing. I have around 40 mods installed. Performance is perfect. You have to tweak a bit here and there, but then it loos very good and is way superior than the 3D vision version - which was my first 3D vision game and got me hooked on 3D VISION. So, yeah I experience right now the very same enthusiam I had before with Skyrim. Tweak and mod and you will have the best and greates gaming experience at the moment out there.

Impressed too! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE 3D-vision and it’s so crisp clear BUT playing Skyrim in VR is (although resolution is not that high) simply mind-blowing! I even shouted out loud when I walked through a wood and heard some noise behind me and when I turned around suddenly a creepy wolve was attacking me! (jump-scare in VR whereas no effect ion normal monitor, even in 3D). Even standing beside a life size horse is daunting, and now imagine a dragon....

You can add me to the list! I love and enjoy 3D Vision for almost 10 years now. But I must admit Skyrim VR on my new Vive Pro with supersampling cranked up and 40+ mods installed is nothing short of a revelation! It literally blows your mind! ...and this is coming from someone who is also riding the VR-train since Palmer Luckey was just another guy over at the MTBS3D-forum! So my enthusiasm for Skyrim VR doesn't come from a first-time VR user perspective that tends to be enthusiastic just because you never experienced VR before!
