Any better 3D Vision monitor than my PG278Q ?
  1 / 4
Hi, i have been using my PG278Q for a few years now. It's a very good monitor overall but it suffers from a low contrast and crosstalk issues imho. I'm looking for a better 27" 1440p 3D vision monitor, i didn't find any on the web with reviews. Any idea ? Did somebody compare it to the Acer 27" LED - Predator XB271HUT ? Did anyone manage to make the PG279Q work with 3D Vision ? Thanks, Cyril

There is a new revision of your monitor: PG278QR. I tried it but could not see any differences in Stereo 3D compared to the old version of the monitor. The new version has HDMI in addition to DisplayPort and some more options in the OSD but they are not worth it. So I would say: currently there is no better monitor

I have the PG278QR. It has practically no crosstalk, it is almost perfect, huge difference to all other 3D monitors I tried.

I've had the Predator XB271HUA for about a month now and so far I'm loving it. Much less crosstalk than my old passive 3D monitor, and far better contrast and color. I think it's the same panel as the Dell S2716DG, there is slight pixel inversion but it doesn't bother me too much (a 5 degree backwards tilt helps, as reported by someone here on the forums). Unfortunately I haven't seen the PG278Q(R) in 3D so I can't make a comparison but by all reports it is equal to or greater than the Dell and Acer in terms of quality. The Predator was the only real option for me here in Australia as the only way to get the PG278QR is online and cost $300 more! I believe someone managed to get the PG279Q working with 3D Vision but they reported significant crosstalk issues and swapped eyes. I suspect the former is due to the slower IPS panel and would be common to any IPS monitor tricked into running 3D Vision.

The PG279QR is a TN panel, So I would assume colors on the acer in 3d would be superior.

I'll be getting a console soon and I only now just realized that they do not support Display port. This is Made me think about getting the updated version for my primary display for the HDMI. Does any one know if my 3d surround will still work? I know nvidia explicitly says that they need to be exactly the same, but it seems to me these two models are basically the same screen with a few more features.

i find the 258q way better for 3d vision than the 278q. the 258q is much brighter, there is no screen door effect and it can run 3d vision at 144hz.

They had to use the EDID from the center, to override the outers. So it might work. I'd suggest checking the user's manual to see the full input capabilities of the HDMI connection, prior to purchasing.

Thanks D-Man11 I did consider this but it's alot of money to drop if it doesn't work. I am not even sure if there is a EDID overide for these monitors. Dport From what I understand is supposed to be the successor to DVI but it looks like the industry has failed to adopt it for the most part. It supports everything DVI does and I believe more. Hell my 1080ti's have 3 DP and no DVI

Display Port has been embraced by the PC industry, I don't know what makes you think it hasn't. Your 1080 supports DP 1.4 Just because those TV manufacturing tards don't use it? That's because HDMI has licensing fees that they milk the consumer for, every cable sold = a dollar in their pocket. Display Port has no fees. Display Port also has far more data transmission capabilities than HDMI and well, DVI has not been updated in forever and is pretty much depreciated. Display Port uses packetized data transmission, like ethernet does. Multi-Stream Transport can be used to run several monitors via single cable by daisy chaining or a hub. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that Nvidia does not support MST for 3D vision. USB C is pretty much the same, Nvidia allows the use of external video cards on laptops via the connection. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3079785/hardware/gigabyte-just-showed-an-egpu-with-thunderboltusb-c-for-easier-laptop-external-graphics.html And then there's ThunderBolt by Apple/Intel. HDMI just needs to go away, it's the biggest anti-consumer video/audio connection ever conceived.

There's almost no ghosting, least ghosting in all monitors I've tried since 2009 when 3D launched, quality issues have been apparently resolved, and most important of all, pixel inversion and scanlines are fixed about 90%. My advice - BestBuy here in Canada has 14 days no question asked return policy. I assume it's the same in U.S. Any number of monitors you are considering and comparing, buy them all, test them all for a week, keep the best one and return the bad ones. That's what I always do coz I'm a bit of perfectionist when it comes to dead pixels, ghosting etc. I tested Dell S2716DG. The ghosting is horrible even after a lot of calibration, and pixel inversion is same as Asus PG278Q (old model). Now I have PG278QR and the older PG278Q. I always have 2 1440p monitors coz you'll never know when 3D disappears from the market. Having one as backup lol. I'm selling Asus VG278HE and Samsung 2233RZ.[/quote]
