How to fix/disable shaders in games(DLL,guide and fixes).
  27 / 167
@Laast: Do you use latest fix version ?
This problem was before with first version.

can't load your save, i think because of additional content.

@chiz:
I'll take a look at it later.

And I agree all series of ME are a mess.
You can't fix shadows by changing 2-3 shaders, almost every model in the game has different shader and you should fix them all.
Maybe in HLSL sources they include shadows shader as separate unit , but in compiled shader it always will be a bunch of files with the same code.
In ME3 demo I've fixed about 200 shaders and some shadows doesn't look good.
And of course this is just a demo, hope at least part of the fix will work with full game.

WOW..... I am not excited about fixing shadows lol and like each of those fixes are different and probably requires tweaking. Shadows are no joke.
Thanx for putting in so much time to it, this is no lie when I say. I am so excited for mass effect 3 that I havent been able to play a game for 2 weeks(no joke).Which is why I been making sure to get wiki straightened out since I have so much free time.

I really wish I could contribute to the community here by being able to provide fixes for games for all of us to enjoy but I can't seem to wrap my head around it. What HeliX has given us here and others have worked with has really expanded my enjoyment of 3D games. A game like Skyrim, which will be alive for many years thanks to the mod community, is now just as good and even better than some of the "3D Vision Ready" games that are out. That is amazing since Helix, and the others that have come up with fixes, do not have full access to the actual source code of the game that would, I imagine, make fixing things easier.

Let me preface what I am about to say because I am just as guilty of doing this as anyone else. I would love to go back and play some of my older games, especially RPGs liek Risen, that didn't work as well in 3D as I had hoped. My fear is that we start alienating people by expecting too much from them and lose them from our community here.

I can see a lot of interest and work already being done on the Mass Effect 3 demo so hopefully when the full game comes out in a couple weeks it will be something that will be "fixed" as well as possible and be something we can all enjoy. I also look forward to see what interest and things that might be fixed with a couple other PC titles coming out in April, Prototype 2, and Risen 2, which I am really looking forward to as a fan of the old Gothic games and the first Risen. OF course, if these are games that don't appeal to the people that have been doing these fixes, then I can understand.

Thanks again to HeliX, eqzitara, mana84, chiz, and everyone else that has contributed to working on this. The best I can do to help is help test fixes and offer heartfelt thanks for all the work you guys have done.

Could someone try Dragon Age 2 again? Is it really impossible to fix? Could you have a try again please /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

You're darn tootin'!

Will a DX11 version of the HeliX mod be possible some time in the future? Would love to see DE:HR tidied up a bit - know what I mean?! Could fix OilRush before the devs do...

Well first off we can only fix the DX9 version keep in mind. Ill look if someone doesnt after mass effect 3 if someone hasnt.DA2's sky can probably be fixed when we see how helix fixes the convergence effect(Like lights in me2/3). Im not certain how it will look after that is fixed. I think the sun also suffers from same issue. Stuff rendered in one eye can be fixed. Shadows I cant fix. Not sure when I can look at it but if someone else doesnt I will. I am a pretty big bioware fan and its got a big fan base so would be good to fix. Ill do it after im done beating mass effect 3 for the x time lol. Does it have any other issues I dont remember?

I'm just trying to make the most of the tools HeliX has provided as I think that's the best way to let him know how greatly his efforts are appreciated! /thanks.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thanks:' />

But yes HeliX's mod showed great promise from the minute he posted AC:Revelations fixes. I could tell the possibility of fixing problematic issues was almost limitless but I must admit some of the things HeliX has fixed has even exceeded my initial hopes and may as well be Voodoo magic from my perspective (see Dead Space and Reckoning fixes).

Personally, for me, my motivation for trying to use this tool to improve games is multi-faceted:

1) Its a pretty cool way to give back and share with the community. A lot of people have put a lot of time trying to get working fixes for S3D, just never before with such a powerful tool as the ones provided by HeliX.

2) It provides a means for me to actually do something about fixing games we've been complaining about for years with a tool that actually allows us to fix stuff. I'm certainly trying to fix the games I enjoyed the most in 3D that had just a few issues. I generally try to pick the low hanging fruit with games that have just a few minor issues as the harder stuff is out of my current capabilities.

3) More people working on fixes takes some pressure off of HeliX. His fixes are obviously the most comprehensive and best overall, but its a lot of burden on just one person to try to fix every game, especially since its on his free time. I think the last thing any of us want is him to feel "burnt out" and stop working on fixes altogether.

4) Its a great learning exercise. Can be frustrating, but overall I feel like I'm learning aspects of 3D gaming I would've never been exposed to without access to a tool like this and picking apart shaders and trying to ID the problems I'm seeing onscreen with the code I'm seeing in Notepad.
Also, if you guys have games that you want to see fixed but are having a hard time wrapping your heads around the HLSL code fixes, you can still do your part to help profile the problem shaders in advance. Its really easy overall running HeliX's debugger. Just cycle through Vertex Shaders (90%+ problems I've seen can be fixed via VS) and hit "6" to export any problem shaders you ID. Then open up that shader and put a brief comment on the top line after // to help whoever looks at it next to get an idea of what that shader does. I think HeliX said the latest version of his debugger also shows the full shader enumeration in sequence, so that's also helpful. So if you attached a shader with a description in its header like //Skybox or //UI text and HUD:

VertexShader_323_CRC32_9665B3AD.txt

Someone could look at that shader, possibly fix it if they recognize the code pattern. Then if they needed a better idea of what the shader breaks, they could cycle through the shaders knowing they are looking for Vertex Shader 323 instead of trying to catch a shader effect (requires much closer attention).

Also I don't mind looking at games for people but there's some games I know are out of my current capabilities to fix or I just don't own them. I don't own Risen for example, so I can't help you there, but that's an example of a game that you could profile the shaders in advance and attach them here to help potentially expedite the process.

No worries about Risen and from what I have read about the sequel that is out soon, the graphics have been upgraded a bunch so there is a good chance any fixes for the original might not work on the new one. At least with this tool out, there is hope that the game might be playable in 3D even if it means the gaming community has to do it. As much as I would like to play the original again, I know newer games should have higher priority anyway.

I will attempt to go through a game like Risen myself again sometime with the tools but I admit working 6 days a week burns me out. I even struggle to get myself up for playing games as much as I used to when I was less stressed-out and younger. I sometimes spend more time reading threads like this than playing games because I am too pooped. /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Yeah I think that's a good assessment of the problems and limitations of a DA2 fix. I personally considered doing 2D to 3D HUD conversion to help push the screen depth UI/enemy markers etc closer to object depth to allow for higher depth settings (I played originally with only ~20% depth, high convergence) but I think the bigger problem with top-down RPG games like this (and RTS too) is that the mouse cursor will remain 2D no matter what because they use hardware mouse cursors. I ran into the same issue with Dawn of War 2 and while it is slightly better than 2D HUD/UI, its still non-optimal compared to games that use rendered/software mouse cursor (Skyrim, Alice, Prototype, AC games) that push mouse cursor to 3D depths once you make the HUD 3D. Who would've ever thought we'd wished more games used software mouse instead of hardware lol. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

@Andysonofbob: HeliX did mention early on he had made some progress on a DX10/11 version of his wrapper but have not heard an update on that front. Again though, he's just 1 (extremely talented) person with finite spare time, so working on a DX11 wrapper that may or may not work out means he can't continue working on DX9 games that could benefit from his attention right now. Just have to weigh the pros and cons I guess, I'm sure he has as well.

I know Nvidia will never do it, but they should step up and send HeliX a pair of the new Kepler cards when they come out. What he has done is helping push 3D Vision as much, or even more, than any developer could with a game. I know Nvidia supplies focus members with free software and/or hardware to help facilitate the evaluation of Nvidia products.

Its actually possible with DA1/2 to change the cursor into a pixel or two. Alot may be considered vital but the "standard" ones / "hand" ones can be changed.

I was thinking about it but it would require alot of understanding of things I dont know. Deleteing everything in cursor folder and replacing them with blank cursor files(this can be done). Somehow attaching nvidias 3d crosshair to mouse emulation(uncertain). Replacing 3d crosshair file with a mouse icon(this can be done).Probably alot more work then its worth though.

Thanks a lot for Your latest game fixes!
But I'm confused which versions of the dlls are at the moment the "official" versions to be used with these fixes and for debugging - the updated ones from Helix's first post or the ones posted later http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=222386&st=260 ?
Besides from decimal indexes are there other new features?

Besides from decimal indexes are there other new features?

My original display name is 3d4dd - for some reason Nvidia changed it..?!

Well I dont remember hearing any problems with any the debuggers.(Then again we have a lot less people testing that then the release /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ) So only the newest one is listed on the site. I don't think their have been any major differences between them besides higher compatibility. Just use newest one unless you have a problem getting it work with whatever game you are trying.
Some releases dont work for certain games according to people. I havent run into that.http://helixmod.wikispot.org/oldvers for the back log.
The newest release/debug will always be the "main" one on the wiki unless problems. http://helixmod.wikispot.org/gamelist . Scroll to bottom will say release and debug.
The newest release is linked to every single game page. Must be working well enough since I havent had to many posts saying otherwise.

Game list is up to date now. If you got any better ideas to organize them let me know.
I MAY implement comments on each game page. This mod is still new but when we get some major new releases under our belt, it may help due to compatibilty issues, praises, etc. Let me know how you think I can best approach that.

I mentioned to bloody@3dvision-blog(awesome guy who constantly helps the community). About skyrim project and he ran an article.http://3dvision-blog.com/7310-3d-vision-complete-compatibility-project-for-the-game-skyrim/
Apparently this also worked for DDD users.
@chiz
I know i'm being a pain but if you could put a link to the wiki somewhere on it. I'd appreciate it. Im hoping maybe some more people will see it and maybe get involved. So many games in past that was tried, had issues and we didn't even think it was possible to fix.
Also who was involved with it thats not from HERE. So i mention it on wiki, I dont want it to seem like they didn't get credit. I have Boris,Dorkirt, Helix, chiz.

I have been a member of the PC Gamer steam community which is one of the few groups with an active chat room.

It would be nice to have a chatroom in addition to this forum.

By being a 3D Vision user you are part of a minority which enjoys the ups and downs of playing games in 3D mostly not intended to be played in 3D.

I just created http://steamcommunity.com/groups/3DVisionForum with the primary focus on the chat room.

I wouldn't say "never", I know Nvidia has been very supportive of 3rd party tools that supplement and improve their products in the past, especially when they provide features and functionality Nvidia themselves would prefer not to directly support. This allows the end-user to get more out of Nvidia products while allowing Nvidia to maintain arm's length transaction in terms of culpability, especially with grey area "at your own risk" features like overclocking or overvolting.

How they support the products isn't entirely known to me, the likes of Unwinder, Orbmu2k and our own Grestorn would obviously know more unless they are bound by NDA not to disclose. I'm pretty sure Unwinder and Orbmu2k get access to early hardware directly from Nvidia or through their partners (EVGA/MSI) and I think Grestorn mentioned at one point Nvidia provided direct support to help his efforts with nHancer (not sure if he ever got hardware). I've also seen Andrew directly offer 3D Vision gear and Steam codes in exchange for some C++ work he wanted done in a post here, so those are the kinds of compensation that they're clearly willing to offer.

In any case, I fully agree, any help Nvidia could offer him to support and facilitate his efforts would be well deserved and smartly invested. I know HeliX hasn't asked for it, but he should also consider taking donations for his efforts. Like you said, not everyone is able to contribute and show their appreciation by making fixes, but a small donation here and there would ultimately accomplish the same goal and allow him to use the funds to either buy hardware or use as he sees fit.

Cool thanks for passing the word to Bloody. I definitely appreciate your efforts in getting a wiki up and running, I just haven't fully gotten involved with updating it because I'm not sure if HeliX has endorsed it yet. When I first mentioned Wiki I was thinking it would be something more of a portal he set up and had control over similar to what some of the other famous mod authors have done (ENB, Alexander Blade etc). HeliX hasn't asked for donations or even mentioned it, but it would also allow him to accept donations to help fund his projects and for people to show their appreciation. I'm more than happy to contribute time and effort into fixes, but for those who can't, they could always donate a few bucks for a fix they appreciated or to buy him a 6-pack of beers. :)

Anyways, just throwing that out there, would like to hear HeliX's thoughts on it....
