Faults with the _ Sony 3D HMZ-T1 Personal Viewer _ Sony HMZ-T1 HEAD SET SCREEN FAULTS
To start off the discussion I have just attained a Sony HMZ HEADSET, second hand.
It came from the USA, me I am in Australia. I needed to purchase a step down transformer suited to the unit based on
Our current voltage here in Auz.
The problem is ? After I connect up the unit then power up the head set I get a welcome screen
For about 10 seconds and then a blank screen. It tells me to press the menu to go to the next option, I press it and nothing.
The seller of the unit claims all was good and that he only used it a few times!
I am puzzled at the moment so if anyone has had anything similar to this
Problem please PM me. Alot invested $$$......try explain this one to the MISSES!😂
It will still be under the Warranty for sure as the unit was just released a month ago. I would call Sony tomorrow (before holidays) and get it sent over there for service. Since you bought it second hand and it is an expensive item I think that this is the best way for you to ensure that it is in working order, and that any flaws will be fixed for free.
Congrats on the purchase! I am sure that Sony will be happy to have one of these units come back for repair as they probably have not seen many in their tech dept. yet.

Hi sammaz, THANKYOU for your reply. I'm in Australia the unit was purchased in the USA do you think Sony Australia would except the
Warranty here seeing that has not yet been released here In Auzz?
I stopped at the electronics shop from where I bought the step down transformer to verify again that it was compatible,
And yes it was the tech seems to think also the headset or pass through be at fault.

Where you are should not matter. You will probably have to send to USA for repairs but that is worth it. They will still fix and return to wherever you are. I would call first thing in the morning though. The quicker you begin the process the faster you will get it back.
No I don't have one yet. I have not had the chance to demo it wither.

Make sure you are pushing the head pad rest forward. I had the same problem when removing the pad to get the HMZ closer to my eyes and then realised you have to have the pad rest pushed forward to work.

you say the screen goes blank? This is probably a dumb question, but do you have the forehead pad/button pushed forward to engage the video output? I have an HMZ-T1 and if the forehead sensor is not under pressure the screen will turn itself off after about 10 seconds.
Chico: I too removed the pad to get the unit closer to my eyes. I put a piece of foam weather stripping where the pad would connect. just thick enough to trigger the switch and not keep it far from my eyes.

I would like to thank all you guys for your input Into SOLVING my problem
YES!!! It was the head set sensor, I didnt have the correct amount of pressure to engage
The sensor to off mode when fitted properly .... Man I thought I'd flushed my investment down the
Porcelain Bowl !! So to speak. However I was blown away with the VISUALS AND SOUND DISPLAY ( 2D/3D)
Sure comfort can be a small problem but seeing others with innovative ideas to improve the balance of
Comfort ability it's trial and error in what suits individuals.
For me it's a KICKASS headset unit and one of a kind at this stage
Looking forward to immersing my self in the Zone of the cinema world without any
Interruptions ...... This is what it's ALL ABOUT!

Glad you are enjoying the HMZ-T1 mate, i love mines even though it has it problems.

I can put the HMZ on now and be ready and focused in about 3 seconds rather than the stupid monstrous design sony came up with, big thanks to easty by the way, i just used the same idea as him for the cycle helmet mod, then made adjustments myself.

It's an amazing device, and I'm growing the neck of an ox by using it daily /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> One thing I want to say about it, now after more than 50 hours with Skyrim and using the HMZ only for it, is that the surround audio is quite good and terms of quality and positional audio, it really is the complete package, however few products are begging for a 2.0 revision more than the hmz-t1, it has to improve in weight, focus, comfort, etc. Still I'm glad I bought it, and it's future proof since hdmi 3d standards are here to stay for better or worse.

Ned i hope you have a nice powerful system, I use 3dtvplay on the HMZ, i have a i5 2500k clocked at 4.4ghz and a gtx 580 and its great, but even that struggles to maintain 60fps in battlefield 3 in 3d, i am a sucker for 60fps, find it hard to play unless it is.
Right 2 must play games in 3d on the pc.
1. Alice - madness returns. I never fancied this at all and only recently picked it up in an origin sale for £7, its stunning in 3d, sometimes when i was wandering about, especially in the small section walking through the rain in the city, it was like watching a 60fps movie CGI version of Coraline, and it has stunning Psyhx efects as well, the lava floating about, the smoke and particles from the grinder and lots more, as a bonus the game is actually pretty good as well, gets a bit dull in the middle but stick with it. I am going to make the game sound fantastic, but it reminds me of, Batman, Zelda, and a simplier combat version of devil may cry
2. Batman AA & AC - Both of these are mindblowing in 3d, essential HMZ gaming.
Also if you are using 3dtv play from the pc, unlock the advanced convergence controls, then boot up your game of choice, set the depth to 3 bars, its a very low depth, but whack up convergence till the image totally splits, then bring it back until your eyes feel comfortable, you should have a stunning 3d image that sinks into the HMZ screen, i believe wee call this effect Toyafication, it really does look like you are playing with a living/breathing dollset, you will see what i mean, its nice to have the choice of 3d effect, you can go for high depth and then converge, but low depth and high convergence looks fantastic with certain games, especially the 2 mentioned above.
You obviously are not a pauper so make sure your system is up to spec to go along with the display you are running.

Good old Santa!
Just looking around found the HMZ selling for up to $ 2500.00 AU
THAT'S RIDICULAS...... I picked mine up from the US from a fellow who also
Threw in 2 games 3D PS3 - Crysis 2 & Avatar & 2 movies Avatar 3D & Monsters. Vs Aliens 3D..
All work fine......cost all up $ 1000.00 AU. I thought this to be quite reasonable as the HMZ is hard to come by at this stage, at
$ 2, 500 the seller is profiteering and anyone willing Enough to buy it must have shares with Sony!!
Best regards Ned

It will still be under the Warranty for sure as the unit was just released a month ago. I would call Sony tomorrow (before holidays) and get it sent over there for service. Since you bought it second hand and it is an expensive item I think that this is the best way for you to ensure that it is in working order, and that any flaws will be fixed for free.

Warranty here seeing that has not yet been released here In Auzz?
I stopped at the electronics shop from where I bought the step down transformer to verify again that it was compatible,
And yes it was the tech seems to think also the headset or pass through be at fault.
Do you have the HMZ-T1?
Cheers Ned

Chico: I too removed the pad to get the unit closer to my eyes. I put a piece of foam weather stripping where the pad would connect. just thick enough to trigger the switch and not keep it far from my eyes.

you say the screen goes blank? This is probably a dumb question, but do you have the forehead pad/button pushed forward to engage the video output? I have an HMZ-T1 and if the forehead sensor is not under pressure the screen will turn itself off after about 10 seconds.

All work fine......cost all up $ 1000.00 AU. I thought this to be quite reasonable as the HMZ is hard to come by at this stage, at
$ 2, 500 the seller is profiteering and anyone willing Enough to buy it must have shares with Sony!!
