3d Vision NOT WORKING OUT OF BOX! Got my Kit today, installed CD 1.23, Hardware Test Failure in
PLEASE READ ON IF YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP OR HAVE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM.

CPU: i7 920
Motherboard: ASRock x58 Extreme
RAM: 3 x DDR 3 1600 Crucial Extreme
Graphics: 2 x 8800 GTS 512 SLI
Power: Coolermaster 1000W
Case: CM Storm Sniper (Window Version)
Monitor: Alienware AW2310

OS: Windows 7 64bit Home Edition

Graphics Driver: 197.13
Monitor Driver: 1.0.0.0

Both Drivers are the latest from 26 March 2010

Ok, I got my Geforce 3d Vision Kit today (26th March 2010). Part Number: 942-10701-0007-100.

Set everything up as instructed. Glasses charged for 4 hours, IR Emitter minimum 50cm away on desktop. Tried to setup my glasses with latest drivers from NVIDIA's Website, "NVIDIA_3D_Vision_CD_v1.23_WinVista_Win7_English" and the Hardware Test in the setup, I could only see 2 shapes. Not 1 or the other but 2 of them.

All the USB's are attached to the motherboard via the IO plate.
Definitely no other IR products in my room.
Tested with SLI and without.
Monitor set to 120hz, then 110 hz, then 100hz (Still nothing),
Computer Bios set to default (Primary Graphics set to PCI-E),
search through forums for help (sadly none),
looked on the internet (nothing relevant),
Oh and seen AVATAR in the cinema and saw the 3D effect - so I could say that the medical test will be passed,
finally out of ideas!!!!

Can you help me?

Do I just have a dodgy pair of glasses (After 4 hours charged, the amber light no longer on specs when plugged in; Green light comes on with power button).

Is the IR Emitter faulty (Green light on, Glows Green when glasses turned on).

Should I just send the Kit back and see if the replacements work?

Or is there a fix I can get?

I am having very similar problems, with a disturbingly similar setup to yours... I also started a new topic to get help with this about 30 minutes ago...

When you see both shapes, are both lenses the same brightness? Does anything happen if you wave your fingers directly in front of the left lens where the IR receiver is?

When you get to the test with the two shapes, you have to CLOSE either your right or left eye (can't remember which one is first off the top of my head).
So lets say with your right eye closed you will see in the big box either a green hexagon or a blue triangle ONLY - then you have to pick in the corresponding smaller box which one you see.
Then, repeat for the left closed.
I believe the test is just to make sure the images aren't reversed.
Once that part is done and if everything is picked correctly, you will see a black and white image with a 3D square that should be quite obvious.

Try setting up as electroglide says.

Run a game. Do the glasses darken?

Have you removed all the old divers? You need to Driver Sweep them, next restart in safemode then driver sweep again and then finally install the CD.

I hope you get your issues sorted out. I remember my glasses turned themselves off during the setup! I cant remember if pressing the button on the emitter helped or not but it definately worked in the end.

Ok PROBLEM STILL EXISTS

1) Made sure the usb cables go into the correct devices, i.e. short for glasses, long for IR emitter.

2) During test when both shapes can be seen, brightness is the same for both eyes.

3) Driver Swept my system, rebooted in safe, then driver swept again... then installed fresh drivers from CD 1.23

4) Finally ran the test and still no changes!

Other things tried from suggestions:

petekw: Does anything happen if you wave your fingers directly in front of the left lens where the IR receiver is? NOTHING HAPPENS

electraglide: When you get to the test with the two shapes, you have to CLOSE either your right or left eye... THIS IS OBVIOUS DUDE... I CAN READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE TEST, DON'T BE PATRONISING!

andysonofbob: Run a game. Do the glasses darken? THE TEST FAILS >>> SO I FAKE THE ANSWERS >>> GAMES DO NOT DARKEN AND 3D STEREO IS ENABLED, BUT ALAS NO 3D FROM THE GLASSES...

After you have pressed the button on the goggle, the green LED should shine for about 15 seconds, then if idle, one of the lenses should flicker 5 times after about 10 minutes. Does it do that? If not it might be faulty glasses. Also try physically removing one of your grx cards. Some people have reported issues with SLI.

When I press the green button on the glasses, the light comes on for 30 seconds, then goes off. No flickering from any of the lenses.

Also I have already mentioned I disabled SLI... plus I have also mentioned that I got a game to work in 3d, i.e blurring images, but the glasses would not work... World of Warcraft was the game.

So is it that the glasses simply do not work?

Heh, sorry if it came off that way... I only mentioned it becase I myself became a little confused with the whole left eye, right eye business when I first ran that test.

So, in that case I would do the SLI disable thing and if it still aint working, then it would seem the one lens is faulty by not responding to the 60 hz signal.

Unless you are a teccie I wouldnt want to gamble on assuming whether the problem is with the glasses or emitter

BUT

The fact the games are going into 3D mode suggest it is a hardware problem, with the fault lying with the 3D Vision kit. I would get a replacement set.

True. The emitter could also not be activating properly, I agree. Even the USB cable could be defective I suppose. It would be nice if Nvidia came up with a robust diagnostic utility for issues such as these!

yup

Both glasses and emitter are connectable to the pc via USB. If nVidia GPU fans have telemetry, why wouldnt the glasses...

Well I have contacted the supplier and they will pick it up this Tuesday and give me another... I will keep the forum posted to complete my story to help those that start with my problem as I did. Hopefully a new KIT will fix my problems!

Expect an update later on in the week.

FIXED - basically!

I used the older drivers on the physical CD (v1.11) and everything is working as it should.

I will post more in my original thread:

Finally today the replacement game... charged it for the 3 hours and did the 3d test. My system and drivers where unchanged from where my problems started.

AND YES THIS NEW PAIR WORKED PERFECTLY

So if you have any teething problems, just send it back and get a replacement.

Worth the wait as 3d gaming is simply awesome.
