Upgrading my Acer H5360?
Hi, I may have the opportunity to sell my current H5360, it's really a great projector however since a friend of mine is willing to buy it from me, I was wondering if is there any other projector out there fully compatible with 3d vision and that improves it by a wide margin. Monitors are just too small and 3d tvs too expensive, so it would have to be a proyector, any suggestions? Also I haven't been able to setup my PS3 to work in 3d with the H5360, any success with those other projectors?

I believe all projectors expect frame sequential or checkerboard input so the PS3 won't work at all.

-get a better screen, theres so much life beyond matte white, rear projection, 3x brighter front projection etc etc.

You really wont find any affordable 3d 1080p projectors when they become available this Fall. People are speculating the cheapest one to be in the 2+ thousand dollars range by Panasonic. H5360 is great as you can get for 720p 3d projector.

viewsonic makes nice projectors that are supported and offer allot of brightness- just look at the compatibility chart:http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-requirements.html

the depth q is really nice but very expensive.

System:

Intel I7 920 overclocked to 4ghz

Asus Rampage Extreme II

2 Ge-force 480 in SLI

GTX 295 PhysX Card

12gb ddr3 2000mhz ram

Intel SSD in RAID 0

BR RW

1000w Sony surround sound

NVIDIA 3D Vision

3d displays tested:

Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)

Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)

Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)

23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)

Samsung 65D8000

-double edged sword, with matte white screen and high brightness projector = lot of light reflected everwhere in the room, then in turn, reflected back onto the screen, killing contrast ;)

- I think the 800 lumen in 3d mode is just optimal if you are prepared to use a silverscreen or rear projection screen, that is less sensitive to ambient light anyway, and comes with ~3x gain multiplier.

- plus viewsonic specs are just as faaaake as A/O's when it comes to 3d spec. ( They can't use the white segment of the colorwheel hence less brightness).

interesting. Projectors seem to require allot of knowledge to set them up properly. I wish i knew more. i was mainly interested in the viewsonic because of 4:3 aspect ratio for surround.... keep up the informative posts.

wouldn't the 230watt bulb on the viewsonic be nice for overcoming the glasses darkening the screen? assuming you went with the proper screen type to compensate for increased brightness? compared to the acer 200watt bulb?

Well, understanding DLP projectors is not simple. So I dont want to go there. I'll write an article probably before I say farewell and go back to my audio stuff tho (matter of weeks).
The facts:
Published spec aren't true anymore when switched to 120hz, contrast drops by 2/3 , brightness drops by 2/3.

H5360 with 200w bulb ends up 800 lumen at 120hz. 800 lumen is perfect for movies . Hence it would be perfect for 3d, but we have the glasses in the equation too, so , we need a screen that reflects back way more light than a matte white ( wont spread the useful light all across the room like a matte white does).

Then theres another advantage of silverscreen, it appears grey if you look at it off axis, hence it resists the ambient light way better than matte white.

I think the optimal setup is a curved silverscreen ( no hotspot) , with a motorised matte white in front of it for 2d (movies ofc, who would want to play in 2d with a setup like this :D ) .

... if you have lot of money, look at VUTEC screens.
- DIY alternative has to be curved , because of hotspotting, no escape, VUTEC has no hotspot, its sorta wonder screen.

so the acer really is the best solution? of all 3d ready projectors?
does it work in 4:3 aspect ratio?
do write the article. sounds like you have allot of personal experience with DLP beemers
