Official Thread: 3D Vision 2 and 3D LightBoost Feel free to ask me questions

I do currently own three Acer 27 monitors.
I definitely won't exchange all three of them, but I think I will get one new asus as center monitor.
Given, that the ghosting really has improved.
Guess that's a fair compromise.
Any news of availability in Canada for the Asus 27". I wish you guys would sell the kit and monitor separate as I need 3 and don't need 6 pairs of glasses. LOL.
hmm...do I miss something here? don't we need three monitors of the exact same model to do 3d surround?
****, you're right.
Wasn't aware of that.
OK, now I am really going to complain, as well...
This means a few months ago I spent 1800 Dollars for Surround gaming and now I got old technology.
Why couldn't they just make the move to the first 27 monitors together with 3dvision 2 technology upgrade?
That would have been fair.
Thank you very much Acer and nvidia...
Looks like Asus did postpone their 27 monitor for some good reason?
Maybe they thought of any unsatisfied costumers when they eventually find out, that they bought expensive equipment a few months too early?
Asus' seems to be more costumer friendly than Acer. At least in this case.

Being that you refer to nvidia in a similar light to apple. Perhaps nvidia could offer something similar to what apple did and offer a discount to customers that purchased the new asus model; to those that can prove they purchased there acer model in the last year. Apple offered a $100 credit towards its customers when the iphone updated in less than a year back in 07.
Unfortunately we dont offer direct to user sales of the monitors so providing rebates and the like is not as simple as Apple, which can provide credits since you generally can buy the HW direct from Apple.

Unfortunately this will not work.
For 3D Vision Surround to work right, you need all three matching monitors. This is because the timings of the glasses are tuned directly to the monitor and if you have mismatched monitors it wont look right.

Hi
I had just responded, but wanted to respond again that the need for matching monitors for 3D Vision Surround is not us trying to be mean, its a physical requirement of how 3D works.
If you think about it, each monitor is tuned different for the glasses. Now with 3D LightBoost monitors, the shuttering pattern is different than older monitors.
So that means if you tried to put a 3D LightBoost monitors with non 3D LightBoost monitors some of the monitors would not look correct during the shuttering.

Hello Andrew,
thanks for your replies.
So trying to manipulate the inf file of the asus will never lead to success in a mixed monitor environment?
I thought it might be possible to tell the drivers that the asus is just another acer without lightboost etc.
So they all would run in non-lighboost mode.
That would have been a nice compromise.
Better 3d and less ghosting in a one monitor-setup.
And when doing the 3 monitor surround I could live without the enhanced 3d quality for the sake of surround gaming.

I understand that nvidia is not being mean with these technical requirements regarding same model for 3d surround setup.
But I also understand that nvidia and/or Acer were mean with introducing the ACER HN274H to the market while knowing that that model would only be a crippled version of the forthcoming 3d vision 2 revision.
This is bad costumer handling.
So my 3d vision surround conclusion after a few months of fiddling with drivers, settings etc to get the surround working only to find out that my equipment is out of date after that short period of time is:
I won't invest in 3d vision hardware, anymore.
Rather I'll invest in a projector or the upcoming Sony HMZ-T1.

There is always something bigger and better coming along, especially in the world of electronics where manufacturer's are releasing improved tech every year. I can understand your frustration but I am not sure how you feel you got a crippled monitor.

Obviously I got some kind of beta-version monitor.
The new 3dvision 2 - 27 inch - Acer won't even get a new model number. It's just a revision and probably will cost the same.
It's just 6 months since the first revision was thrown onto the market.
I know that technology always improves etc., but here we get a big improvement in technology served by a model revision.
In my opinion that's a bit more bitter than just seeing the next generation of electronics arrive in the shops.

Have you sought recourse with Acer? Perhaps a simple firmware update would allow support of LightBoost, I know some panels now allow firmware updates via USB even. I'm not sure how Acer is on customer service, but I remember back when 24" panels just hit the market, there were quite a few issues with various BenQ, Gateway and Dell models with support of features like 1:1 pixel mapping. The U2407 didn't get it right until RevA04 I believe and if you raised enough stink, Dell would replace older revisions for free. BenQ did similar I believe but required you to send them in to their shops. Can maybe try over there, if there's enough people with this problem they'll have to address it.

If I had a 3d vision monitor for the past year or so, I would probably look at this with some excitement. But, all of us who bought the 27" Acer monitor have had those monitors for a very short period of time, the 1st 27" and still only 27" 3d vision monitor available for purchase. If I had bought a GTX 580 at launch (which I did) I would expect it not to be replaced in 3 months by a major revision, not a tweak, but a major revision. With the release of the Asus 27" no one will buy the Acer model, why would they as it has been made obsolete after a couple of months, thus crippled. No offense, but if it was your $700, you would be singing a different tune. The fact is Nvidia intentionally did not disclose that a new version of 3d vision was in the works, purely because they did not want buyers deferring thier purchases, the actions of a company more interested in short term profit. Nvidia knew they were screwing us Acer 27" buyers, but there just is not enough of us for them to care about.

to me personally, it's meaningless for Nvidia to pump out more refined 3d vision hardware since the 3d surround gaming support has been terrible to say the least. Gamers need to do the necessary tweaking and hacking to make games such as Alice Madness Return to even work; it should be the job of Nvidia tech team.
Until Nvidia commits to better 3D surround gaming support/tweaking, I will not spend a cent on any new 3D vision related hardware.

Nice thinking!
Such a solution would be great, of course.
But I read somewhere else, that I can't be done by updating the firmware...
But worth a try, anyway!

And when doing the 3 monitor surround I could live without the enhanced 3d quality for the sake of surround gaming.
I had just responded, but wanted to respond again that the need for matching monitors for 3D Vision Surround is not us trying to be mean, its a physical requirement of how 3D works.
