Setup Wizard problem Asus G73-3DE to Vizio M3D420SR
Hi all.
I have had my Asus G73-3DE laptop for about a year now and I finally picked up a 3D TV to use it with.
This laptop comes with a 3D screen and a 460m Video card. The driver package that I had on it was older and didn't have the 3D TV package to talk to the TV installed so I upgraded my drivers to 285.62.
So I connect up my laptop to the TV (Vizio M3D421SR, originally thought to be a M3D420SR) with a brand new HDMI 1.4 cable thinking it would be a piece of cake to get this working. It most certainly is not cake...
I attempt to run through the set up wizard and at the end it always pops up with the same message:
Error in Stereo Driver,
NvAPI_Stereo_IsActivated() returned 0 after stereo was enabled by default with Settings->setDefaultStartupMode(true).

The TV seems like it wants to accept the 3D signal, and during the setup process it asks me if I want to enable 3D mode. I always click yes, though I have also tried clicking no.
I have tried the following:
Restarted PC
Restarted TV
Reconnected HDMI cable
Uninstalled all NVidia software, then re-installed
Set both laptop screen and tv to 720p at 60hz (down from 1080p at 120hz)
I also applied the 3DTV play support update utility found here.
I don't believe its working because I am not seeing a 3DTV logo, just a "HDMI 1.4 Blu-ray 3D" message

I appreciate any tips or assistance on this problem!

I ran that. Restarted the computer, reconnected the HDMI cable, still showing the same result as in my pictures above. /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

See if you can find an edid for your tv. What does your computer recognize your monitor as?
Ok in the monitor tab of the GeForce GTX 460M Properties it lists both the laptop's screen and the TV as "Generic PnP Monitor".
However, in the NVidia Control Panel, it shows them as "Laptop Display" and "M3D421SR". Sure enough I just checked the back of the TV and it says the same. This might explain part of the problem if the patch NVidia made is only for the M3D420SR. The next question is will they make a new one for this model, and if so can I help...

Your monitor tab needs to recognize it. See if you can find one by googleing edid for M3D420SR. You have to convince your computer that you have the right one for 3d vision(though you dont) Or find an owner on a forum and see if you can get it from them. Also if you want to try getting it to work this way http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=13176&sid=b7c172803a1110ddd61bebde555e30a8 By all means.

I did not have any luck finding an eid for the M3D420SR or the M3D421SR, which is the actual model of my tv. I may try the method in your link. Thank you for the advice so far.
If there is anyone from Nvidia who cares to chime in on this that would be great too!
I will also be making a submission to get support for this tv from this page.

I also bought what I thought was the M3D420SR specifically because I checked and it said it is supported.
I'm pretty sure it too is actually a M3D421SR even though Walmart sold it as a M3D420SR.. I'm not sure there is the latter model. I haven't heard of anyone with a M3d420SR only the M3D421SR. Either way, we can guess they are both very similar and should definitely be supported; especially when it costs $40 to buy the 3DTV Play software even though they advertised my GTX 460 as being 3D ready.
Apparently Nvidia lied and it is not. As we both well know from our stereo driver errors.
I'm beginning to remember why I was an ATI customer for the past decade, but I just couldn't pass the price on the card. Next time I'm thinking I will because of how frustrated this has made me haha..

I have been waiting to hear from them for 3 days now since submitting my request ticket. I hope they decide that it's worthy of addressing.

I too hope they will address the problem with the VIZIO M3D421SR.
It should be quite an easy fix for them, but we know how these things work.
