Civilization V
  1 / 4
Man, I'm tired. Feel like a bit of a zombie because the past couple nights i've been vegging out of Civ5 till almost dawn. It's uncommon for me to get so hooked on a strategy game, since i'm normally a FPS junkie. Anyway, i searched for an existing thread here and didnt find one, so I thought i'd start a thread to say that Civ5 is pretty awesome in 3D! The only part that sucks, and this is a pretty big issues with a strategy game, is that all the hud and cursors are 2D. I've gotten around this by simply wearing my 3D glasses a bit like a granny wears her reading glasses so i can just glimpse over them if i need to do any reading or precise clicking (buying a tile comes to mind, since you have to click on the tiny little coin itself). But since most of the game is just requiring you to click on the tiles themselves and fairly easy to click research/construction projects, its not all that bad. The fact that its turn-based also makes it much more tolerable than if it were RTS and you had to be quicker about things and do more precise unit control and grouping.

So what i did was adjust convergence until, when zoomed in as close as i could with the camera, my units were right at convergence point and appeared 2D. This makes the mountains and clouds and arrows and such that fly in the air have a nice amount of pop-out. Since i usually play this game in 6-9 hour sprees, I do switch off the 3D every couple hours for a while just to give my eyes a break because it is more taxing on them having to be constantly adjusting from looking at 3D to 2D images than it is in games where you can just stay in 3D.
