VR question. I need a usb 3.0 hub that works with Oculus Sensor?
I don't see any fanboy answer in this topic. Most of people who are speaking here have tried both Rift and Vive before answering(including me). Ragedemon answer is fully representative of what people think when they have used both system: Rift + Touch is obviously superior, even if Vive is not a bad product. You are talking about the "weakness" of the camera tracking system of the rift, but it seems you are stuck in 2016: Oculus now can do 360° as efficiency as the lighthouses (unless you play in a big warehouse) and it has been proven many times by many qualified peoples (including developpers). Both systems sometimes loose track, but it remains very rare. 95% of the time when you play in normal conditions, they both work flawlessly. And about these "anti-consumer business practices" BS, on the one hand you have Oculus selling a complete and better product at lower price, who is investing millions of $$$ in games creation in order to give to their users base real VR games. On the other hand, you have HTC who is selling a product in kit (original HMD + new 2017 audio strap + new controllers + new lighthouse...), giving to its customers the feeling that they invested 900$ a few months ago in an imcomplete and already obsolete system, and asking them to pay hundreds additional $ to keep their purchase competitive. Not to mention that neither HTC or Valve have presented a real VR game more than 1 years after Vive release. Who is fooling customers here? If someone here plans to jump in PC VR right now, I suggest to read this article: https://uploadvr.com/htc-vive-price-partner-problem/ Anyway. We'd better go back to topic.
Yup, didn't say that anyone here was a fanboi, just wanted to be clearing I wasn't calling RageDemon out. Anti-consumer- sorry, but you are just wrong, or rationalizing your decision. Exclusives on console suck, and are anti-consumer. There isn't any point to them, except for consumer lock-in. There is no question that exclusives are anti-consumer. Tracking- Sure, whatever you say. I've read miles of bullshit about rift and VR in general about how awesome it is too, and most of that was just wrong. Or people who had never seen 3D before. Like people talking about the Half-Life 2 experience on DK2. It sucked. By any reasonable metric, it sucked. But, tons of press, all positive. So people talking about Rift tracking is identically good to Vive are just more the same. It just isn't. The technology is inherently inferior, and it shows in limitations, bandwidth glitches, and tracking errors that I never see with Vive. But sure, I mean the internet is never wrong. But you've already made up your mind that Rift is better, and like all internet conversations, no one will ever listen with an open mind.

Without quality games supporting it, VR will fail as 3D gaming has failed. But how to convince developpers to make expensive games using a tech based on a new and expensive hardware, which is still marginal and have a low user base (and so a low return on investment)? Oculus, as a manufacturer, chose to invest money and help devs on their project (as an editor) and to make themselves their own games (as a game studio). Having more games is fully commendable and healthy for the VR future. The only counterpart is a temporary exclusivity on Oculus store (when they are editor) or a full exclusivity (when they are a game studio): it is perfectly logic on an economical pov, and it's certainly not Oculus who were the first to act like this. Valve sell their own games exclusively on Steam aren't they? They are trying to make a win-win system where everyone earns something with VR: developpers can make money, consumers get quality contents, and Oculus as a manufacturer sells hardware. And the most important: PC VR can grow and develop itself. Take a look at Lone Echo, the latest VR gem edited by Oculus Studio. Without this policy, the game won't even exist. Go tell to the thousands of people who are enjoying the game that this is an "anti-consumer" act... What you are calling "anti-consumer", I'm calling it "pro-VR". And until big editors (like Bethesda, Ubi, Activision,...) really jump in VR and invest in real multi-platform AAA VR games, that's in my opinion the best thing to do right now. That is my open-minded opinion, which is I think more open than "Facebook is greedy and anti-consumers" :) And if HTC users don't want to use a hack to play Oculus games, so guys sell your Vive and buy a Rift. With the money you'll get from your resale, you can have a brand new Rift.

Very interesting discussion! I think us Stereo3D users have a unique perspective on the situation. I'd like to plug here, that I have been playing Doom 3 BFG with HD textures and the VR mod. One of the best experiences I have ever had in VR. I would recommend VR folk to try it out, as for us S3D folk it's something unique: AAA Full Game with full locomotion movement, for people with excellent VR legs, which most of us have due to a tolerance buildup with S3D I think. Locomotion can be cut down to suit, i.e. teleportation, blink turning, etc if one wishes, but I'm one of the lucky ones who can do the full thing, and I hope you guys can too - you are in for a treat. The install is very easy, and there is a video on it too: https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/comment/510389/#Comment_510389 If you have VR and like FPS shooters, I highly recommend you check it out! Now, on a related note, I was in the 'facebook is evil due to tracking' camp - never really thought too much about it, until someone on reddit slapped me with a dose of Actual Reality (as opposed to Virtual Reality). This is the ammunition that they used, which left me with some thinking to do: --Welp, excuse me while I burn my Android phone/iphone, because Google/Apple is selling a hell of a lot more info than Facebook could ever get their hands on! Back to Nokia dumbphones for me! --Shit, Windows 10? brb shooting my hard drive with a .50 cal and installing Linux! Fuck, now I can't play any games, guess I don't have to worry about Facerift now! --Credit cards? Pfft, massive tracking beacons. Back to cash for me! Goodbye, online shopping! Wait, cable boxes can spy on my TV viewing habits! And my ISP can see everything I'm doing online! Goodbye cable TV. So long, Internet. --Shit, my state uses license plate tracking on toll highways, and some police departments even use license plate scanners! Brb seling my car, public transit for me! --But wait, public transit requires an electronic fare collection system that also collects data! Welp, walking it is then! --But.. facial recognition and security cameras? Guess I'm never leaving my house ever again! --Hang on... you own a house! That means the bank already has all your info, as does the government! Time to sell my house and move in with someone, or just live in the forest. It made me remember that Steam/Vive data mines just the same. I am not saying that I support what was said, nor the mocking tone that it was said in. All I'm saying is that it made me realise that if I want to not like one company due to x, then I have to concede to not liking most others either, because they are all pretty bad to a varying degree for the same thing. If we want to vote with our wallets against anti-consumer practices, then we must vote against them all, not just a select few. I understand what you mean about VR not being all that great compared to S3D, and I completely agree with you bo3b. I played HL2 VR with VorpX - not great. I still play most games on my 3D projector. However, I must admit that some games are gems in VR - Super Hot, Above mentioned Doom 3 BFG VR, Robo Recall, Obduction, Arizona Sunshine, Lucky's Tale etc. Most of these required a concerted effort to make them as much 'pure VR' as possible, and I am happy that Facebook money was involved to allow that to happen to the ones which required it.

For any 1-st person game VR > monitor 3D in spite of picture quality for me personally. Immersive levels are not compareble. One ondition: this first person game MUST BE optimized or created for VR. Stuff like vorpx does not make real optimization, only developer work can.
Hello Sebastatu! I'm considering too to buy VR, but why did You lean toward to Oculus and not HTC.
Just the recent price cut $399 really for the bundle. It was hard to pass by. Read some reviews and they were good. So far is a good gadget. I still love 3D vision way more. but I can see the potential in VR. I haven't tried the Vive yet. I will this weekend, and let you know what I think of the 2.

I would go for the VIVE if you can afford it. Otherwise the Rift might be a cheap alternative. I like Facebook in general and think Zuckerberg is a genius for getting so incredible rich with it. But what I don't like is the exclusive / close Rift shop and then all those exclusive deal for example with Codemasters on Dirt Rally. This destroys the young flower that VR is and which needs a lot of love to further blossom. Have fun and welcome to the VR club. The real next gen gaming.

I never got to try the Vive. Only the oculus which is meh, and I barely use. So I wasn't able to give any opinion. Hoping newer models are way better.

Ironically S3D in 3dvision solved my Motion sickness problem, in that I still get motion sickness in 2D but never have in 3D. I haven't tried a VR system yet, but I have a foreboding feeling my motion sickness will return with a vengeance and be unbearable there
