540m 3d compatibility
I recently bought a new laptop, upon using nvidia's automatic gpu detection (540m) to see if I could update my driver it listed my gpu as being 3d vision compatible. My laptop is not compatible for 3d but if I got an external display that was could my gpu support 3d games?

In case it matters my laptop is an asus n53sv

You and me are in the same boat

In my case a 460m with an asus g73

You can connect to your 3D tv or monitor via HDMI 1.4a cable and play via 3Dtvplay

Although they say it is not as good as 3Dvision.

What is your display?

dmhuisma,

Please provide more details about the software that you have installed on your notebook (NVIDIA drivers version, OS, etc.). Please also be more specific about the 'external display' that you are trying to connect on that system (type, model, connection, etc.)

If this is not a 3DVisoin Ready notebook, then please note that you will need to install the 3DTVPlay software in order to enable 3D on a 3DTV connected to this notebook.

I do not actually have a 3d display but I was thinking of getting an external monitor and I just wanted to know if my computer could support 3d on a 3d monitor. In that case I was going to buy a 3 monitor otherwise im just going to go with a normal one. I am running windows 7. I upgraded to the latest driver but have since downgraded to the one my laptop came with becasue the newer driver caused significant performance loss in games.

Hi dmhuisma,

Yes, you should be able to connect a 3DVision ready PC display to your non-3D notebook (540M).

Make sure that you select a display that comes with the embedded 3DVision emitter and glasses. If you pick a 3DVision ready that doesn't come with the embedded emitter, then make sure you also add the external 3DVision kit (glasses + emitter) as well.

Finally, make sure that you notebook has a DualLink DVI port (which is required to connect to a 3DVision PC display). If not, then your notebook probably has an HDMI 1.4 port, which you can use to connect to a 3DVision ready PC display that has a compatible HDMI 1.4 input. Please refer to NVIDIA.com for the list of approved 3DVision Ready displays.

Finally, you can also connect your notebook to a 3DTV using an HDMI 1.4 connection, but in that case, you will need to add the 3DTVPlay software ($40) to your system.

Okay, I have a question... I'm looking at buying the iBuyPower Battalion 101 CZ-12, which has the 540M card. Does this card work for 3D vision discover? That's good enough for me, and is all I'm really interested in. Thanks.
