Ignore me.
I was still using 0.63. I didn't realise it had been updated until Arioch1's post. Was it mentioned on this thread?
Seriously, recently, my posts should be moderated by someone before allowing them to go live. Come on me, stop being wrong all the time!

I didn't realise either and I don't think it was mentioned until Ariochs post. Updated to 0.67 now but not quite sure what has changed (except moon and stars). Could we have an update by bo3b or mike as to the best graphic settings to use where everything is fixed please? The only option I don't run on highest settings are the shadows, I don't use Soft shadows cos I know they don't work (yet ;)

Not attempted to fix the following:
- Soft shadows
- Ambient Occlusion (any of theoptions)
- Motion blur
The latest fix covers:
- Stars, moon, clouds etc at night
- Lighting and shadows at nigh-time for the different in-game Anti-aliasing settings (previous version only worked for FXAA and SMAA, now works right up to TXAA4)
When you say you've not attempted to fix AO, are there known issues with HBAO+? I know there are with SSAO.
Yeah HBAO+ does not work, and it has different issues depending which profile/driver you use. At the very least it shows big transparent triangles on the screen, at worst you get an opaque black semi-circle right in the middle of the screen. I do plan on looking at it, but did not prioritize it due to the performance impact it will have anyway. Also, sometimes AO can look wierd in 3D - I am working on Saints Row 4 right now, and AO generates a strange halo around the characters, at the depth of the character, which I think is meant to emulate what you might see on a wall behind them or something, except you get it even when the character is nowhere near the wall, and it's not at the depth of the wall anyway. Lower quality AO removes the 'halo' but then there is a really odd time lapse thing where the AO shadows settle down over the course of about 2s, and in the meantime render incorrectly in S3D. I don't know if AC4 will be like that of course, but I remember AvP 2010 was similar (the 'halo' thing) so who knows.

Weird, I didn't notice any issues with HBAO+ when I tested, though I've not tried it since the release. Were these issues a side-effect of another fix?
As for HBAO+ "low", that doesn't actually appear to do anything. Image quality and performance are both identical with it on low, and it completely off.

Yeah, sorry I should have mentioned that HBAO+(low) does not give the same artifacts. What it does do though is generate a darker line around object edges, depending on the background (e.g. the guys hood when viewed against the sky). Apparently this is exactly what HBAO+ is supposed to do, but I thought it was a rendering bug and tried to fix it (unsuccessfully obviously), so for now I just don't use AO.
It may be possible that the HBAO+ issues are the result of some other correction, or a badly generated HLSL shader - I did not notice the issues myself until later on, but that might be because you don't see much AO on the initial ship scene or the island/jungle scene. I'll definitely give it another look, because hopefully that is in fact the case - an easy fix if it is something I stuffed up by accident.

Here are side-by-side shots I made of Off, Low, High, and there definitely is a difference. You can't really tell by looking at them here, download two so that you can alt-tab between them to see the difference.

@andysonofbob, @richie72: This was a very recent update, just yesterday in fact, which is why you didn't see it. Current fix is solid as far as we know, outside of the stuff Mike mentioned that aren't worth the effort at the moment (too many other games, right?)

Omg, i totally forgot to delete it this time. thanks
unfortunately i dont have the possibility to boot a different os. i honestly dont think that my xeon cpu is the issue. because it works fine everywhere else and is basically a i7 4770, uses same boards.
and mike my shadefixes folder is full of bin and text files.

Hi
I have just upgraded to SLI and all of a sudden the shadows don't work and the sky's at the wrong depth.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the fix. Have I forgotten something?
Thanks!

Not sure if this has been fixed, but when I was testing it I found you had to switch 3d off and back on with the shortcut (while ingame) before it would kick in. I only had to do this once after I started playing.

Okeydoky. Thanks. I switched to AC2's profile and it seemed to fix it.
I'll switch back to AC4.
