S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear SKy Settings help - Also STALKER shadow of Chernobyl
Guys, I just picked this game up from Steam (on sale) because the level design looks so good in the screenshots and indeed, it looks like paintings in game.
But the S3D effect is terrible, I turned Sun Shadow OFF and it improves a bit but still there is quite a way for it to be "excellent" as in the rating.
Anyone got the game working in S3D please post your in game video settings and whatever else you got it working!
Thinking of getting the Shadow of Chernobyl as well, since it has a humongous community patch/mod that supposed to make the game even better. Anyone has got it working with S3D and what's do you use for 3DVision driver and in game video settings?
Many thanks.
EDIT: I've tried with CD 1.19 and CD 1.15 with no visible difference, the graphics anomaly (caused by shadows I think) was unbearable, after half an hour tweaking I got a 2 hours headache.

I haven't tried Clear Sky with 3D Vision yet, but in Shadows of Chernobyl you have to switch to static lighting and turn off some of the shadows (IIRC), and the sky is at the wrong depth. Clear Sky has a lot of extra screen space effects like sunrays, DOF etc which probably don't work in S3D, so you probably need to turn those off as well.
3D Vision should tell you what effects to switch off though, assuming there's a profile.

I did switched to static lightning and turned off AA as the profile recommended plus a bunch of other effects like sun shdows and sun ray effects, this definitely helped with the crazy shadows but the dried shrubs started flashing as I walked around, very distracting.
I'm thinking of getting Chernobyl as well but probably will wait until this sorts out. The game is so beautiful, this is the second game that makes me want to walk around just to look, the first one was The Witcher. Tremendous art work! Looks like it got some very accomplished artists working on it. What a waste of all the skillful lighting placements because I have to be stuck with static lighting scheme instead of full blown dynamic one.
EDIT: With Static Lighting, game is now playable but looks a lot poorer - Water now looks flat and solid like asphalt.

I totally agree, this game is beautiful... but when on 3d mode it is complete bollux. And should be rated poor, not excellent. I gave up. Disabling shadows helped stop shadows looking like sh*t, but everything else still looked like garbage....

shame really....[/quote]
I got it from steam too and did not notice anything too bad but only played like 5 minutes.
BTW, make sure to get the complete mod for a good improvement on everything.

With 'static lighting' the game indeed works very well in S3D albeit losing all special effects, fortunately the level design is so well done the game doesn't lose its artistic appeal because of that.
One important difference between the two games is that Clear Sky's clouds work fine in S3D whereas Shadow of Chernobyl's clouds are @ crazy depths which really ruin a lot of such a beautiful game in S3D.
