andrewf, i really hope you are telling the truth :)
i'm so excited !!!

For information, my Panasonic VT30 supports both SBS and Top/Bottom modes, but i think all 2011 TVs do.

What's to be excited about, Andrew hasn't commited to anything. By definition, a commitment must come with a date.
When Andrew says "SBS will be in the drivers by MM/DD/YYYY" that's a commitment. And the further into the future MM/DD/YYYY is, the weaker the commitment. There's no accountability without a date, so it means nothing.

It's apparent that none of you guys have ever worked for a large software company. They don't give exact dates on when it will be released as plans and commitments can change from one day to the next. Just be happy that they have acknowledged that the community wants this feature and they are looking to add it.

I appreciate Andrew's responses in that they are working on it. Much better than we know what you want and you don't want this (Apple). You should also appreciate that someone directly involved with the engineering spends the time to converse with you guys.

Some of you need to stop acting like little brats (Roller11).

I guess I and many others missed the part in Nvidia's licensing agreements where it said we were also signing on to be apologists.

Hi Andrew,

I appreciate you taking the time to reply to posts on these forums. As I'm sure you are aware, the reason people seem to take a lack of information quite personally, is because we are all paying customers who have bought into nvidia's 3d technology, only to find that other solutions can provide a better gaming experience as the situation is today. This is no excuse for anybody to be rude to you, but similarly, to suggest stopping reading your posts is not particularly constructive, as all we are trying to do is voice that there is a feature that an overwhelmingly large portion of 3d gamers would love to have, which would benefit both us and your product. I, for one, am going to continue using iz3d in over-under mode and checking back here for the day that I can have my 3d gaming solution rolled in nicely with my graphics driver config provided by a company I have supported for many years now.

Thanks,

James

After purchasing, installing and setting up a pair of new video cards, at the end of the day (or before the end of my return period) all I have to ask myself is did my Nvidia based product (hardware/software) perform to my expectations or do I wish to return it for some other companies product? Presently I'd have to say that I'm satisfied with the solution I purchased and will not be returning it.

This is not to say the product is not without flaws or that in the future my expectations may change. I may also want to use the product with other products that have yet to be released. While I do expect any major bugs/flaws to be addressed/fixed during the 1st year of production, I don't expect my hardware and software to be upwardly compatible with each and every OS/DX/Application that comes out after the chip-set/card is no longer in production.

I suppose if the boxes said there was a "HDMI 1.4a" connector instead of the not-so-interesting HDMI 1.4 then we all would have something to complain about.

To quote Wikipedia: "HDMI 1.4 requires that 3D displays support the frame packing 3D format at either 720p50 and 1080p24 or 720p60 and 1080p24."

"HDMI 1.4a requires that 3D displays support the frame packing 3D format at either 720p50 and 1080p24 or 720p60 and 1080p24, side-by-side horizontal at either 1080i50 or 1080i60, and top-and-bottom at either 720p50 and 1080p24 or 720p60 and 1080p24."

Personally, I'll wait for video cards with "HDMI 1.4a" on the side of the boxes.

Add me to the list of Nvidia customers that would like to see SBS added to 3DTV Play. I recently purchased a new Acer h9500bd projector that supports SBS content and would welcome the additional display options even if I have to manually make the change in the control panel. I have tried TriDef which works okay but doesn't have SLI support like current 3DTV Play drivers. There are a bunch of HDMI 1.4A projectors, TV's, and displays in the marketplace now so hopefully this can get bumped up in the development cycle.

Hi All

I am well aware of the request to add side/side support.

I have said it earlier this year, and I wills ay it again that this feature is on our roadmap, its just behind other features right now that other users have requested. We will add this feature to future drivers.
[/quote]

Andrew posted this over 4 months ago. Has there been any major features added to 3DTV Play since then? If SBS is "just behind" these other features, and these other features are going to take 6 months or 8 months or a year or two to impliment, how long will it take for SBS to be added?
If it was one or two people complaining I might understand their lack of attention to us, but thread after thread, paying customer after paying customer posting here for months, and nvidia's attitude remains "we'll add it when WE feel like adding it."
It's really bordering on unbelievable.

I think they've lost some paying customers to Tridef due to their lack of "damn giving" about SBS. If I had a Sams Tv I probably wouldn't care that much, I'd be using checkerboard and whistling all the way, but Panasonic decided not to include this mode. A few days back I decided to check out Skyrim in 1080p@24hz and it was quite the eye opener. I would be playing through Iz3d, since it not only has SBS support, but offers better fps than 3dvision. The framerate at 1080p is comparable to 720p with 3dvision. Since there is an additional bug I am withholding from using their driver. If I hadn't already bough the iz3d driver I would have probably gone with DDD and left 3dvision for specific titles only, where their support is better.

It is beyond comprehension for me, how a company that is trying to be a leader and a pioneer in offering a specific feature, could be so lacking in proper support, so that 3rd party solutions outdo it at its own game. They should be doing what Sony has done on the ps3, but not forget that the pc is not a console and consumers should be able to get maximum freedom in enhancing the experience. Instead they are assuming that everyone is lacking the knowledge to set-up for stereoscopic play properly and they are streamlining the whole process. Why even lock convergence after installing 3dvision, why not give the user the benefit of the doubt that he/she isn't a complete idiot and can figure out how to use the feature? Why remove outputs, which were already present in legacy drivers?

I believe that Nvidia's main profit comes from selling GPU's and not glasses, not monitors, so whatever market agreements there are with monitor manufacturers, adding a simple feature such as SBS probably will not hurt the monitor market, since 3d TVs and 3d monitors are different segments. Users will not decide to spare an extra thousand bucks to buy a TV instead of a monitor just because he/she can use use SBS with the TV, so I don't believe Nvidia's deals with Asus, Viewsonic or other monitor manufacturers will suffer from adding an output, which will benefit TV manufacturers and consumers. If anything it would be wise to simply sign new contracts with these manufacturers, since 3dtvplay will be providing better support for their products.

Then again maybe Nvidia is just waiting for the new, faster hdmi chips, which will support 1080p@60hz, why bother writing code for something, which will be obsolete in a couple of years, right /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

No you won't because you can't use 3D Vision on your panasonic 3DTV.

You are way overthinking this, it's very simple: both 3D Vision and 3DTV play are designed around marketing's policy of "no user intervention" as explained by Andrew back in Jan.2011. He made it clear that nvidia was doing us a favor by eliminating all modes that require the user to manually put the TV in 3D mode. Nvidia considers this a bonus, not a design blunder. This is why Nvidia has ignored requests for these native res modes, and why Nvidia won't commit to adding them (no availability date = no commitment)
