need for speed carbon "collectors' edition" 'profile failure' need for speed c
Just purchased & downloaded "NFS: carbon" from EA - EA only makes the 'collector's edition' available now.
This 'collector's edition' looks to be 'identical' to the standard nfs:carbon- but includes a second dvd of "other stuff".
No problem w/ NFS: ProStreet or elsewise...
but w/ nfs carbon, v1.09 nvidia 3d cd:
Upon launch of nfs carbon (not the 2nd dvd, just the base nfs carbon), the CTRL+ALT+INS overlay displays:
"This application is not rated by NVIDIA corp.
Rating: Unknown
..."
I tried manual edit of the nvapps.xml files in ProgramData & windows/system32 to reflect the different executable names in the "collector's edition"- rather than nfsc.exe, the new "collector's edition" file names appear to be:
nfsc_launcher.exe
nfsc_link.exe
--- but even w/ variants on the theme, reboots, etc., I still get this "Unknown" state.
3d does actually appear to be working- but sometimes the scenery looks 'ghosted' when turning fast. I enabled vsync in the game & that helped some, but there are still such glitches.
I think the fix could be as easy as adding lines to the nvapps.xml carbon entry as per: <APPLICATION="nfsc_launcher.exe"/>
or
<APPLICATION="Need for Speed Carbon/nfsc_launcher.exe"/>
... but I'm missing something somewhere, as these aren't working?!..
nfs carbon has an "Excellent" 3d rating from nvidia- I believe that this collector's edition is the same game, but with a few 'freebies' thrown in on that 2nd dvd.
I'll try renaming the nfsc_launcher.exe or nfsc_link.exe to what nvidia expects (nfsc.exe) -- does nvidia checksum the executables, or would a simple name-swap work?
any tweaker-insights would be appreciated, thanks much!

*** SUPER-AWESOME: I renamed Program Files/Electronic Arts/Need for Speed Carbon/nfsc_link.exe to nfsc.exe & viola!
Upon launch of nfsc.exe (that is, the renamed nfsc_link.exe), CTRL+ALT+INS HUD overlay now displays:
Need for Speed Carbon
Rating: Excellent
Thank you nvidia for not doing something stupid like crc-ing the executables- you guys rock.
... so it seems that this little "renaming kludge" could work for hacking your own profiles- if you can find something 'similar' to what you want (& can turn off your frontal-lobe desire for a perfect world- as a wise programmer said: a kludge which works is better than nothing).
3d effect doesn't kick in until I get past the initial profile load-point, but its definitely working fine now!!
I'm gonna drift my face off in 3d all night long, baby!

Check out Race Driver Grid if you are looking for a new car game, very good with 3d vision and excellent racer, it's probably my favourite racer to date with 3d vision that being said if EA could do a modern take on need for speed underground 2 I would be very happy, I love that game and it works awesome with 3d vision but if they could do it with the graphics of games today it would rock.
