Guys, I got a replacement 6531w for one which developed a dead pixel a couple of days ago.
The "new" 6531w projector, wait for it, HAS 16:9 OPTION!
They have been lying through their teeth to us so they wouldn't have to replace everyone's projectors, because their flashing program which should have fixed the issue, also never worked.

The interesting thing is, I still use the VGA cable with my hacked driver inf because I get full 1280x800 with VGA instead of 1280x720 in 3D over HDMI.
Side note: When you create a custom resolution of 1280x800 over HDMI and enable 3D (which works PERFECTLY), a big non-disableable red message pops up on the centre of the screen saying it is not the correct resolution for 3D vision.

Presumably you still have 16:10 as an option as well?

Mine's still under warranty and I've toyed with the idea of sending it back because there is a slight whistling/whining noise, presumably from the colour wheel. Still not sure if it is a fualt with my unit or someting inherent to the design though, as I know some other people pointed out the same issue but others say theirs doesn't make the noise.

I recently painted my screen to increase gain and have noticed that I see ghosting now with the 3d vision glasses. It's strange that it only seems to be a problem with green really and doesn't seem dependent on the depth of the object in question.
Is it a timing issue do you think, as I don't get the same ghosting on my LCD monitor and that is also pretty bright?
Lastly, does your projector display a different firmware version now? I'm in the UK as well and am contemplating contacting viewsonic support to see if I can get the 16:9 option on my projector somehow, or maybe get a replacement. It's about 11 months old so well within warranty.

If it's one colour only, then I'm afraid it's probably a timing issue.
I too use a high gain glass bead screen and can absolutely relate.
I don't use the 3D vision glasses for this reason, relying instead on Viewsonic's DLP-link glasses, which produce no noticeable ghosting at all.
Because of the issues I talked about with the new firmware, I got it replaced with one with an older firmware which doesn't have a 16:9 ratio, so that I can use the projector properly at 120Hz even in non-3D. The new firmware messes this up. It also instantly shuts the projector down instead of cooling it first. I am confident that the firmware is new as even the boot screen is blue instead of being white. Viewsonic doesn't show the firmware revision in the menu so I can't check. Maybe if I were to connect it to the network.
If you are happy with VGA, I would recommend that you try playing non3D games at 120Hz and then at 60Hz, and see if you can notice the difference. If you can't then you may as well get the one which allows 16:9.
I wasn't happy losing 80 vertical pixels. I like to game with VGA at 1280x800. A working 16:9 will force you to play at 720p. Pixel loss and 120Hz non3D gaming loss was a major deal breaker for me so I went back to the old firmware.
That was my personal taste. It's up to you to decide what you are happy with :)

- click on the 'change resolution' tab under 'Display'
- click 'Customize'

-Click Test, the image should turn off then come back looking normal.

Go to the button called Resource Viewer\Editor and click it, open the folder bitmap and find 201. open 201 there should be an open file button next to replacement source. download the attached 201.bmp and use it as the replacement source.
go to file and save the file as nvstres1.dll. once saved rename the original nvstres.dll to nvstres.dll.old and rename nvstres1.dll to nvstres.dll
disable and enable the 3d in the nvidia control panel
ill attach the modified nvstres.dll for driver 285.62
Note: this will remove all of nvidia OSD
last of all games like to use resolutions from the monitor driver, not the custom resolutions in the nvidia control panel so to get it working install the edid override inf attached

As you may have noticed, nVidia have dropped support for CRT mode in all upcoming drivers, which was going to force me to have to get my projector replaced again to play at 16:9 in 3D over HDMI.
Now, I should be able to keep my projector which works great at 120Hz, works over HDMI, and has guaranteed 3D Vision support.

One question though. I see that PE explorer is only a 30 day trial. The cost to buy is very high. Is there a freeware program which will allow you to do the same thing?

I had two perfect projectors but the other one had wierd power failure that started
To appear too often so i send it to service. I send it like 3 times back as i got tried of waiting
For the problem to find as the
Projector Was weeks and sometimes a
Month In test bench to find the problem, not once it occured (yes pretty wierd)
Finally i Was offered a
Replace to a new unit. That later proved to be new (Factory refurbished)
That one Was once send back as the optics where full of dust. After i got it
Back the black level Was ruined. So after many complaints i got one more
Projector to measure and compare. Now i have 3 projectors. One good and
2 not that good.

The interesting thing is, I still use the VGA cable with my hacked driver inf because I get full 1280x800 with VGA instead of 1280x720 in 3D over HDMI.
Side note: When you create a custom resolution of 1280x800 over HDMI and enable 3D (which works PERFECTLY), a big non-disableable red message pops up on the centre of the screen saying it is not the correct resolution for 3D vision.

Guys, I got a replacement 6531w for one which developed a dead pixel a couple of days ago.
The "new" 6531w projector, wait for it, HAS 16:9 OPTION!
They have been lying through their teeth to us so they wouldn't have to replace everyone's projectors, because their flashing program which should have fixed the issue, also never worked.

Mine's still under warranty and I've toyed with the idea of sending it back because there is a slight whistling/whining noise, presumably from the colour wheel. Still not sure if it is a fualt with my unit or someting inherent to the design though, as I know some other people pointed out the same issue but others say theirs doesn't make the noise.

once downloaded and installed you'll need to open the file nvstres.dll
Mine was located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision"

My eyes can all ways tell the difference between vga and hdmi. if your the same maybe a hdmi input card or a nice home theater amp could be of use to you if you wanted to go all hdmi

i have read many stories of life long lasted services and poor results
And i have experienced it my self.
I had two perfect projectors but the other one had wierd power failure that started
To appear too often so i send it to service. I send it like 3 times back as i got tried of waiting
For the problem to find as the
Projector Was weeks and sometimes a
Month In test bench to find the problem, not once it occured (yes pretty wierd)
Finally i Was offered a
Replace to a new unit. That later proved to be new (Factory refurbished)
That one Was once send back as the optics where full of dust. After i got it
Back the black level Was ruined. So after many complaints i got one more
Projector to measure and compare. Now i have 3 projectors. One good and
2 not that good.
Just a word of warnings. In world of projectors the fault becomes feature
After enough service attemps.
