I've got a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (6.1) workstation with two Quadro 5000 cards and the nvidia driver version 270.41.19.
The 3D Vision IR emitter is plugged in to both a video card and a USB port, but the blinking light on the emitter is still red. What do I do to diagnose this problem?
Here's my dmesg output when I plug it in:
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0955, idProduct=0007

usb 1-1: Product: NVIDIA stereo controller
usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Copyright (c) 2008 NVIDIA Corporation
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Could of sworn only works in vista/7.

According to /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README.txt which came with my drivers, There's a stereo option that needs to be correctly set to make it work. So I assume NVidia has made it work somewhere.

Do you know what the USB port version is? Have you tried plugging into other USB ports on the workstation?
You mean like USB 2.0? That's what the "high speed USB" meant, right?
I have just tried plugging the device into another USB port and even tried rebooting with it in another port. /etc/X11/xorg.conf has the following:
Adding these lines to /etc/X11/xorg.conf made the light turn dull green:
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "off"
EndSection
Still not a bright light. But I made progress!

I have tried running applications in stereo mode, such as
glxgears -stereo
or
paraview --stereo --stereo-type="Crystal Eyes"
In either case, the screen is showing a double image as expected. The emitter is still a dull green, not the bright green it is supposed to change to When I put on the shutter glasses, nothing happens. They are not shuttering and talking to the emitter. The glasses seem to have power (the green LED comes on when I hit the button).

I have fixed the problem! It turned out that it was a bad wire. one of
the pins in the 3-pin stereo connector was bent. We swapped it out and
it worked perfectly.

I'll keep trying to play with the configuration.
