I can mostly reproduce that error, it seems to be related to the game actually passing a bogus window handle to CreateSwapChain. First time it works for whatever reason, second time it fails. We crash because the Overlay tries to attach to the broken swapchain and fails.

For this system, I'm running old driver 368.22 and Win7. This could easily be a different way that Win10 handles swap chains.


Try setting up the game to be windowed mode to start. When it's windowed, I don't get any crashes, and the overlay is still visible. I can also set the window size to be full 1080p, as long as it stays windowed.

Then as a last step, if I set it to be full-screen in-game settings, that also works. Let me know if that sequence fails for you.

This looks like a game bug to me though, they are passing in a bogus HWND to the CreateSwapChain call, that surprisingly does not crash on the first try.


Anybody else interested in this game? If so, it'd be helpful for you to try running 3Dmigoto here and report your results.

I gave it a try on my Win10 rig... If have hunting set to 1 and enter fullscreen(Alt+Enter) it locks up, monitor seems to go into 3D mode but my usb emitter never glows... usually it glows first then the light on the monitor changes. If I set hunting to 2 and enable hunting(kp_ins) any time before entering fullscreen it locks up, even if I disable hunting prior to enabling fullscreen... but if I enable fullscreen first I can enable hunting and cycle through the shaders, export_shaders=1 works as well. ...and this pretty much kills my GTX 550ti. Lol.

I had zero issues trying to use 3DMigoto with the Demo before. v.1.2.51 I believe. Don't know if the Demo updated since then though...

1. There were only about 30-ish VS, PS and CS. None seemed to affect the shadows and lights (perhaps one CS did)
2. When I alt-tab out my computer hangs anyway and I have to hard reboot

Glad it kind of worked for you... I never had it hang that hard, usually hitting Esc a couple times would close the window... not sure why it did but it did. I found that if I disabled hunting before Alt+Tab'ing it would go back to windowed mode and as long as I didn't enable it again before returning to fullscreen it would remain stable. I also found that if I lowered my resolution from 1080p/native(LCD) to 720p I could Alt+Tab all I wanted with hunting enabled, still hunting=2... 1 still locked up on start.

Remember the DA:I method we used? I kinda stuck with it since then;) (Using 2 PCs so I don't need to ALT+TAB). Works wonderfully;)

Do we want this on the shared accounts? It's within our budget. My personal recommendation (as always) is for shaderhackers (and everyone else) to hold out on buying it (cancel preorders if you've made them), wait for all the season pass content to release, then I'll grab the full package at a discount. That gives us the best chance at avoiding patches/DLC breaking things and requiring re-work, uses up a smaller portion of our budget, and the shaderhackers all get to play it for free. That's just my view though - I'll go with whatever the shaderhackers want.

That's just my view though - I'll go with whatever the shaderhackers want.[/quote] I'll put in a vote for it, even if only for being able to play it once it gets fixed by someone else! ;) I actually took a look at fixing the demo first day it was out (well before anyone else started discussing attempting to fix it), and got the shadows close but not right... almost like it was being fixed in view space and needed to be multiplied by the FOV, but when multiplying the by the inverse projection m00, aka FOV, it still would not be correct... so I just decided to keep quiet about it (didn't want to admit failure :P) and hope/see if anyone else could crack it, which so far hasn't happened. (On a side note, this is almost exactly the same thing I've found with shadows in Hard Reset Redux and Shadow Warrior 2, so I suspect that whatever it takes to fix shadows here will work in those games too!) I could definitely take another look if it does get picked up, but if someone else would rather take a stab at it first (would especially love to give Mike the opportunity since he seems somewhat interested!) then by all means I'm happy to let them have their go at it since this could be out of my depth (although it really *should* be a simple fix based on my initial observation).

I actually took a look at fixing the demo first day it was out (well before anyone else started discussing attempting to fix it), and got the shadows close but not right... almost like it was being fixed in view space and needed to be multiplied by the FOV, but when multiplying the by the inverse projection m00, aka FOV, it still would not be correct... so I just decided to keep quiet about it (didn't want to admit failure :P) and hope/see if anyone else could crack it, which so far hasn't happened.

(On a side note, this is almost exactly the same thing I've found with shadows in Hard Reset Redux and Shadow Warrior 2, so I suspect that whatever it takes to fix shadows here will work in those games too!)

I could definitely take another look if it does get picked up, but if someone else would rather take a stab at it first (would especially love to give Mike the opportunity since he seems somewhat interested!) then by all means I'm happy to let them have their go at it since this could be out of my depth (although it really *should* be a simple fix based on my initial observation).
