3D Vision works fine for half the things I try Various issues with 3D Vision in Games and with Movie
Hi All,
Apologise if this a duplicate post but I've spent a while googling my issues with no success.

First off I love my shiny new 3D Vision, it looks awesome in games and gives everything the extra depth you never knew was missing. I did have an 8800 GTS rev1 but I upgraded to a GTX 275 once I saw how much framerate enabling the 3D takes, I had a few issues before but even more now that I have a better gfx card ???

Start Positive! What Works:
Source Engine Games - all look great, Portal gives some ghosting but I think that is where the level design is very clean and plain. This is the same on either gfx card.

Unfortunately /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> What Doesn't Work:
Crysis - Turning on the 3D Vision squashes the image to 1 side but doesn't give me 2 images, the right side of the screen just shows a smear of the first image. Didn't try this with the 8800 though.
BioShock - Similar to Crysis however I do get a sort of second image on the screen, but only 1 lens of the glasses turns on. This worked fine (and looked awesome) before with the 8800.
Medusa Demo - Similar to Bioshock in that only a single lens comes on and the double image on screen appears incomplete. Was worse with the 8800 in that I couldn't get it to change at all with 3D on.
Katana Video - Within Media Player 11 just shows 2 images side by side. Same with the 8800.
ET:QW - Similar to other games in that it does not come on properly or update the image on screen. Didn't try the 8800 on this.

Is there anything I can do to fix these issues? I have followed all of the in game instructions but this doesn't change the behaviour of the 3D. My setup is slightly unusual in that I have 3 displays connected, the 275 is running the 3D Monitor as the primary, a 1080p monitor/TV on the secondary and a projector coming from the 8400 which is also doing the Physx. If need be I canpost some images of what is happening when I get home.

Sounds like defective glasses to me. You might want to give nvidia tech support a call and have them walk you through troubleshooting and possibly a RMA if you find it is indeed the glasses that are the problem. Regardless of any game's compatibility or your graphics card, you should never have just one lens of the glasses functioning. The shutters should work on both sides whether the game is rendered properly by your system or not.

However, the Medusa demo has never worked for me either. Apparently a lot of people can't get it to work, no idea why.

I have been able to use all 3d applications in stereo, even opengl applications.

I would reinstall drivers, because I remember that when I was installing drivers for the first time it went bad (you have to delete physx installers).
Crysis is very nice in stereo but low fps and unplayable because it uses a lot of 2d elements.

Thank you both for the speedy replies! I'm not sure if the issue is to do with the drivers as it took me a couple of goes to get it right. I think reinstalling Windows would be a good idea anyways so I may do that tonight. I'll give Tech support a call and see if they can help me, though I thought this would be a system issue as it does work with Source and did work on Bioshock (before the gfx upgrade). Then again, the fact that it is intermittent that implies it is the Hardware. I will post when I know more but if anyone else has a suggestion please post!

Thanks again.

Notice that you can not play stereo movies in WMP, but you have to download stereo video media player from nvidia site.

Ah! Now that I have re-read the page I see that, thanks. "The following movies require the latest Microsoft® Windows® Media Video codec, which are included in the Windows Media Player 11 download" is what threw me. I'll try that again when I get home.

Which opengl software did you get to run with the 3d Vision. I have been unsuccesfull thus far? I'm trying to use 3d vision in The Chronicles of Riddick but it fails to activate. I was under the impression that opengl didn't work with S3D!

Another thing I just thought of, if it was an issue with the glasses being broken why would this effect the image on screen. I can clearly see that on the games which do not work correctly the image isn't complete let alone with only a single lens on the glassess active?

The issues (mostly) is that games only run with a single lens of the glasses darkened and the image on screen is NOT doubled in order for it to be seen in 3D anyway.

Hmm I am probably mistaken :-) I used real time hdr demo, but this is directx.
Otherwise all 3d software I have is running stereo including furmark benchmarks (quite nice in stereo).

I am using Vista 32 but I have also Vista 64.
I do not have significant problems (sometimes desktop hangs, because Nvidia messed up shell extensions in new drivers).

For Medusa demo set the rendering area to 1680x1050 instead of 1680 x 900.
will work in 3d.
