Vive Pro Lens mod
I imagine that those of you that have a Vive Pro already know about this. Nonetheless, it's interesting to see, everyone that has done this so far has posted that the difference is quite noticeable. GearVRs were what $40 at release? And yet, they have better lenses? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O45PcAATxk
This lens mod is the best thing to minimize god rays and fresnel ring distortions. With this mod I am able to look around at a scene with my eyes instead of moving my head to make everything come into focus. It is a night and day difference, and it is actually really easy to do.
Thanks for the update/reminder, D-Man11. I remember noting this mod when it was first announced, but I do not have 3D printer - so I forgot about it (lost in 3DMigoto gaming). In the interim, a number of people are now offering complete mod kits, with varying versions of the lens holder. I just ordered one of these kits, but it will take about a week to get. My preorder Pimax 8K is experiencing an unusually long shipping time to arrive at US distribution point - 3 weeks now (they originally indicated 7-10 day transit time). Pimax is investigating the delay. They would not commit to release date for eye tracking module (enabling access to full screen resolution), at this time...

I can only imagine that the Samsung lenses can not be too amazing because the price of the original device was so cheap. You would think that some others might work even better. Perhaps lenses from an old Zeis HMD, but I imagine that those wouldn't have the required curvature needed for VR. Zeiss makes some awesome Binoculars lenses, I put a fair sized dent in my pocket buying a used pair. Anyhow, you might check to see if anything better is available. I saw this interesting article https://theconversation.com/delivering-vr-in-perfect-focus-with-nanostructure-meta-lenses-89726 That was from last year, so if it's a sound technology, perhaps it might be showing up in HMDs.
