You should have no probs - I run a similar rig with 2 x 480's Sli (with a small Sammy & more recently on with an Acer H5360 :) ) but you will need to get them watercooled unless you like loads of noise & your own personal eco climate with heatwave

All I would recommend is keep MSI Afterburner running with a user fan profile to both keep your cards below 80-85 degrees and monitor them in either a G15 or G19 keyboard or onscreen display. That's what I do and apart from the noise it works well. Enjoy those beasts!

I went to two 480's from two 280 SSC's and all I can say is WOW! You will be really stoked with your upgrade. I am running GTA IV completely maxed in 3d and it is amazing. Also, Flight Sim X maxed in 3d is proof of the power of these cards. I am using the AW 2310 monitor (I have 3 of them waiting for the 3d surround release) and it is definitely a step up from my Dell 30 inch monitor. They may be a bit smaller, but the extra contrast and refresh rate are very awesome. I am running my cards air cooled in an airconditioned environment (the airconditioner is louder than the cards) so I don't have any noise or heat issues. My 500 watt Logitech speaker system makes plenty of noise above anything else. Hope you enjoy these cards as much as I have! I am seriously freaking out waiting for the surround drivers, this is going to be sick!

Yep you're in for a great improvement in 3D Vision. I went from 1x280 (other was on RMA) to 2x280 to 1x480 to 2x480 over the course of the first 2 months I had 3D Vision and each upgrade was significant. 1x480 is very close to 2x280 however, so that's more of a sidegrade imo for 3D Vision.

There are still some problems with SLI scaling in 3D Vision (I think this is a 3D stereo driver issue more than anything, especially in DX10/11 because non-S3D scales great with the proper SLI profiles) but for the most part the 2nd 480 will be the difference in pegging FPS at 60 per eye and also give you sufficient overhead to keep all the IQ and AA cranked up. There's some games that just run sooooo much better with GF100 and especially GF100 in SLI as mentioned GTA4 can be maxed out in 3D, along with Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed 2, Batman AA, and many others that can struggle with just 1x480, typically dropping in the 30-40FPS range.

The other issue right now is that we're kind of in a driver limbo between the 197 and 257 driver releases, as I've found the 257 drivers generally perform better with 3D Vision off, but the 197 drivers are much better in quite a few games with 3D Vision On. The most glaring example of this is Assassin's Creed 2 which runs much better with the 197 compared to 257 drivers. With 2x480 in SLI in AC2, you'll be 60 FPS capped everywhere with all settings maxed and 8xMSAA in-game. With the 257s, performance is much lower, often dropping into the 40-50s.

Unfortunately there's no nHancer compatible with the 257 drivers right now and although there are a few other methods like Nvidia's SLI profile tool and now Nvidia Inspector to manage profile flags, its much more tedious right now to try and play with profile flags. I personally think its the stereo driver version packaged with the 257 drivers that's the problem, hopefully this improves and they revert back to the one they were using with the 197s.
