I have the hmz t1. I installed the 3dtv play update that andrew posted yesterday. that allows me to view the 3d test graphic ok. Nothing else works though. I cannot view still images on the nvidia website. The 3d vision video player does not want to play anything in 3d, it all shows up in the over/under format in the right eye only. Other 3rd party apps like Stereo Photo Maker and Stereoscopic Player dont work either.
This thing is also massively uncomfortable. THey have completely missed on the ergonomics of this device. They want to squeeze your head to make a heavy piece stick to your forehead. The should have put some support over the center of your head. It will just slide down your forehead.

When i tried them out, i figured out if i sort of put them on like a baseball hat they would stay up in front much better and almost all the weight was off the nose. EI, try putting the back end on first, holding it down and lowering the front down.

People are in for disappointment trying to headtrack with this unit. I found movement would put the picture out a bit, ok slight adjust ok there, move, dammit, adjust, etc....
I want to hear more peoples experiences. Me, Im waiting for the Gaming Edition of this unit. 180 degree FOV, 4K res, Headracking, Eyetracking, BlinkTracking, Augmented Reality, 1 gram in weight, looks like a pair of Raybans. But still wont have support from Nvidia until a month after it comes out. /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Glad to hear it works that good with Skyrim, I need to get one NOW but it's released late november / early december here in europe (though I'm afraid it'll move into 2012 since there's so few stock everywhere).

Well talking about other people experience, it is hard to find any info, Nvidia forum is the busiest
Anyway, all that I know I post it there :
http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/forums/stereoscopic-3d-gaming/general-stereoscopic-3d-discussions/18223/sony-hmz-t1-hmd-head-m
Have a look.
Regarding my experience, it is good so far, but i am out of norm already :
I use a video projector for Ps3 HD, on a 2m50 Screen, seating at 3m of it...
So HMZ-t1 view seems smaller but not that smaller.
The stereoscopie is the best, really amzing.
The main problem was/is to get information out of the manual.
To connect it on a PC... well... I got to figure things out, try stuff, took me 3 days...
Windows Xp, Windows 7...
Check Stereoscopie sites, HMD site... so that is why I set 2 post, on in french (http://www.lesnumeriques.com/legrandforum/avis/Ecrans-TV-Videoprojecteurs/divers/impressions-premiers-essais-sujet_14901_1.htm#t247212)
The other one on WSGF.
On you tube not much there either, unboxing mostly and critiques. No "how to"
At start I though all the 3d games could be converted in Stereo just like that, but no.
Very few game support it natively (Hard reset was the first I found)
The games need to have native support for it, today there are few.
Found a list :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stereoscopic_video_games
http://www.mtbs3d.com/gg3d/
But mostly I heard about nvidia Solution, nothing on At... >Amd
I tried a lot of stuff and I read here about 3dtv Play and official nvidia support to the HMD... (wow, kudos !)
This was the solution to me. Support is so fast, I am really impressed with Nvidia.
Sure it is not perfect as you have to set the HMZ as primary display and switch resolution... but for now it's okay.
It is a pain to me because I have TripleHead2Go with 3x26' at 1920x1200... with trackIR5 btw.
For fps I prefer usign 3 screens much more immersive ( Nearly 160 FOv )
Comparing to the projector... well the 3d is so nice... (wipeout HD...wooow) I am mixed.
For longer games sessions i will probably stick to the projector.
(not a good idea to switch a projector for less than 30mn)
If you have a 24' Display well the HMD look like that, same size (but your eyes are focusing far away)
I am 1.80 if I put my arms horizontally in front of me the HMD have a base image of about 46 cm.
But I was never in for a Th2go or a proj replacement, I was for a HMD.
And compared to what is on the market ? well it is amazing at that price. (yes it is cheap-very- compared to pro/military HMD and lightweight ! ^_^)
The : should I buy a TV or a projector ?
Few things to consider :
Is it for you alone ?
Do I have room ?
What about the price ?
HMD is HMD... (yep...) it is a very personal experience, the fact that you have to adjust it to the mm (10th of inch) is a pain... sharing is complicated...
For long sessions, it will leave you a red rectangle on the head fast, but well it is okay, not that heavy, expect if you are s super geek and you neck barely support your head...
But for long time, 3 screens or a proj is much more comfortable in every way
So if there are many of you ^_^ HMD is not a solution.
Room ? well easy answer
Price ?
Well HMD is cheaper (yes) Why ?
The screen is absolutly gorgeous to have High fidelity color like that, dream on, you need the expensive HDTV model... not the 800 USD ones...
in 3D ? price it up more, add the cost of glasses... on PC add the cost of 3d vision Glasses and soft...
To a projector ? in 3D ??? Well the good sony one is around 3500 USD...
There are cheaper one, good ones... at... little less than 1000 USD...
HMZ-t1 is cheap, yes it is.
I guess that pretty much sums up my experience so far... on a personal note I have been waiting an affordable HMD not in 420x350 crap for more than 20 years...
I love it.

I share your thoughts. I have no room for a projector solution and compared to my Samsung 2233rz the HMZ-T1 is worlds above. Stereo 3d with no ghosting and full colour fidelity with no darkening due to shutter glasses is an unbelievably wonderful experience. I have to almost physically force myself to get a long running mod project done, before I will get finally lost in perfect stereo 3d Skyrim :).

I have the issue with the 3dvision player going to over/under format also. Do you have the dongle or a built in emitter?
As to the comfort level of Sony's HMD, have you tried the different sized forehead pads? I've been able to get to a tolerable level of comfort by fiddling with the straps and sizes for an hour or so. Seems to me that they should have just went with a full goggle setup like the virtual boy, rather than the forehead dent method.

I had absolutely no trouble adding the Track IR pro lights to the Sony HMD. The strap for the top of your head works perfectly. Also, the immersion factor for 6DOF in Dirt 3 is NUTS.

True about the skyboxes (and water to soem degree) - but 3d4dd cloud/star remover works very good as a temporrary solution. And still, there is atmospheric colour and colour change in the sky. It looks quite good actually - just as on on a cloudless day :).

I dont know if you are ever going to see a 180 degree FOV HMD. You would probably have to start to curve the display surface to do that. I wonder what the widest FOV is out there for an HMD. The wider you go, the worse the optics get.
People complain about wearing shutter glasses, wearing this thing is far worse. I cannot imagine wearing that thing for an hour. I have tried every setup. I think its going to vary based on the users head. The forehead pad hits my head right on the slope of my forehead, so its never going to stop slidding down. Its designed to not touch your nose at all, so it should not be hitting your nose anyways. I tried all the headpads and every angle of adjustment and none will stay put. You have to put it on like a baseball cap and that leads to another problem, you forehead will slide down the lenses and put some grease from your skin right onto the lenses. Its tough because you need to adjust it to fit closely and if you do, you have to unadjust it to get it on or off without greasing up the lenses. The only advantage is, you dont have to sit up, you can lay down and find some comfortable way. Some people may be fine with it, but I would imagine thats the minority. I need to put contact lenses in and try it like that to see how it works without glasses. I know the fitting will be the same, but at least I can see how the lenses focus since I cant see the entire image in focus at once - thats probably just my glasses.
In the end though, the quality is what should sell the unit. The image looks good, but it doesnt look like 1280x720. I think there is something fundamentally different about the type of display. I mean, my 720p projector has no jaggies ever, this thing has pretty big jaggies for video or stills or anything. Playing motorstorm 3d on the PS3, that game looks good, but you arent getting as much resolution as a 720p projector. So there is something going on there. You can see the screen door effect pretty obviously, way more than other 720p devices. I figured my 720 viewsonic projector is a good comparison since its 720p and not interpolating.
On the upside, the blacks are really black though, which is great, and the color fidelity looks good. It does look like a virtual screen in front of you for sure, but its not like it melts away. You get a halo from the lenses in the unit so there is a halo around the screen in front of you and that sort of reminds you that this thing is on your face. I have a bunch of 35mm slides and a viewer that you hold up to the light that I built, and that thing is still way better. You get pretty good immersion with my slide viewer, not as good with the HMZ. So, I have a lot of experience with what something like this can do. Even with my viewer, there is the issue of not being able to see corner to corner sharply. THis becomes evident when you use it on the computer where you do look at the extreme corners.
It may have an audience with gamers and it does provide something unique if you cannot use a display for some reason. I really am debating returning it and getting a 1080p 3d projector, even at double the cost. I still need to mess with it before I say its better or worse than my 720p 3d projector, which I really enjoy watching. That pj can be had for around $500 now I think.

I just compared it to the projector I have again and the resolution is the same after all. They both have the same detail, so there isnt really any difference between the two. The jaggies must be that the games are not antialiased or something. What I notice most is, when I watch a 3d movie with my projector, I tend to sit a bit too close to the screen, so I have to turn my head to see the edges. This way it feels like you are more immersed in it. You cant do that with the HMD, its fixed at a point. It just seems like the screen is too far away, I feel like I want to get closer to it. I put the extra blinders on that the sony comes with so I can block more of the outside out, but I can still easily look around them. This is one thing I would change. If you have looked at an old Holmes type 3d viewer, you basically stick you face into something that pretty well blocks the outside light out completely. I think that is essential. I think they were afraid to make it bigger and heavier, but I think that would improve it.
The device does pretty much everything it says it will. Being able to adjust the eye width is a great feature since you need to get your eyeballs lined right up with the sensor. THe still image viewer that the ps3 has is a little clunky but it works. I had to convert a bunch of 3d photos I have to the MPO format. They should adopt the jps format, its simpler. Watched the Ultimate Wave Tahiti bluray in 3d and it looks good. So, the device works fully with the ps3. Its easy to set up and all. The sound works well too. Its odd that you need to let it set the resolutions up. If you try to manually set it to 720p, you wont get any 3d. It seems to show movies and stuff at a higher resolution and downconvert it instead of using the 720p mode. You can see it switching modes and it shows you the mode its in . I thought it would always be in some 720p mode, but its not.

Magically after like 10 restarts it resolved it self somehow...strange.

This thing is also massively uncomfortable. THey have completely missed on the ergonomics of this device. They want to squeeze your head to make a heavy piece stick to your forehead. The should have put some support over the center of your head. It will just slide down your forehead.

I love it.
Cheers
