well if you do plan on buying one of these sony hmd i would do some research or try one at your local sony store because even though i love the device some people have send theres back due mainly to comfort issues plus they cost alot of money
the hmd just plugs straight into the mini hmdi port at the back of the graphics card and your good to go
but like i said this can be over come with a bit of time but it took me 2 weeks of messing round with it to get it comfy
also some people complain that the edges never get into focus properly and look a tad fuzzy but mine is so small it not noticeable unless you read text so it does have its problems
but i never use my 22inch monitor any more i always use the hmd for gaming and watching movies it really is like looking at a theatre screen
the 720p res maybe a issue to some people due to some pixelization but i prefer the zero ghosting and vibrant colours and can put up with that
anyway try looking here for some info its where i went before i bought one http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1371946

Doesn't have an hdmi port so unfortunately until like the 700 series comes out ( the 600 series looks good but I'm not sure I will need to make that step, this card should last a while) I wont be picking this up and hopefully by then there will be a new version addressing the issues this one has.

you can get a dvi to hdmi adapter. I use one from my older pc to my 3dtv for 3dtv play.

I didn't think any dvi to hdmi converter was real though. Something about the signal being changed or something? I guess thats just for hdmi to dvi?
Lightboost has to do with the backlight in the monitor, so I don't think it applies to how a projector works.
I passed on the Sony headmount over the Asus for two reasons. I know the picture quality is superb, but I can't get over the 1280x720 rez making all those great hi-rez texture packs for Skyrim, etc moot.
Also I have a very fancy headphone set up to my computer and with the headset you're forced to use it's headphone speakers.

I don't know about the signal being changed. But my adapter sends the entire hdmi 1.4 bandwidth to my tv. I'm able to use 3dtv play without issues.
Yeah ok so after about an hour of using the sony hmz personal 3d, I gotta say it is really cool. But I don't think its right for me, I think my head makes it so I can't find the "sweet spot" where there is 100% clear screen.
I think I may go with the asus if by tomorrow I still can't find the sweet spot.

There is a new Head Mount from another company (cant remember the name), it will be launched soon and its 1080p. Check "3D Vision Blog" site.
EDIT: lol, I believe its the one from Asus, the one you were talking about... :)

Asus P8Z68-V Pro; i5 2500k@4.3Ghz; Inno3d iChill X3 gtx 1070 ; 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz; Asus Xonar DX; Vertex 3 120Gb SSD + 1TB HDD; Corsair Tx750w; CoolerMaster Storm Scout Case ; Benq W700 720p 3D Vision Projector & 88 inch Screen, Sony 5.1 Home Cinema. HTC Vive
I skimmed the thread so I don't know if the original question has been covered sufficiently yet.
My experience comes from using first benq xl2410t for 18 months and then recently buying ASUS VG278H.
Some 2D features of the benq is quite unique to that model and were useful at times.
There can be significant variations even within the same model.
Even though the Benq went into backlight overdrive setting when turning on 3D you would always consider it pretty dark compared to 2D with no glasses. One unfortunate side effect of the backlight running on maximum settings with the option of dialing it down disabled in the OSD was that a distinct and pretty severe backlight bleeding pattern appeared during 3D mode which was not there in 2D mode. I do not have a backlit keyboard so navigating the keyboard could be tricky and everything except the screen becomes pretty dark with the shutter glasses on.
I like the 3D Vision 2 monitor improvements so far. The glasses fit more comfortable on top of my prescription glasses. As promised more ambient light comes through making it much easier to see your surroundings. More importantly the opening scenes in "How to train your dragon" which are mostly very dark taking place at nighttime actually became great to watch where I on my old monitor it was pretty bad. Many details and texture of scene could not be clearly seen. I also tried to compare the monitors using a screenshot from batman archam city but the difference was actually hard to tell. My process in moving 5m and avoiding interference between emitters tint the comparison slightly but I will still have to conclude that a fairly bright scene looks fine on 3D Vision 1. My 3D Vision 2 monitor had contrast reduced by about 33% compared to default settings which was done to remove ghosting. The maximum brightness becomes a tradeoff against visible ghosting while really dark scenes are greatly improved.
If it's worth an upgrade depends on how happy you are with 3D Vision 1.

Ehhhh I looked into that thing and it looks awesome buuuut the main reason I wont be picking one up is that I don't have an HDMI out on my card. I think if my current card had I might have picked it up after testing it at the store. As is I think I will wait until a new version of that headset comes out before going for it. Hopefully by then I will have a new card with hdmi.[/quote]
If you have a DVI port, they make DVI to HDMI adapters, you'd then need a HDMI to mini HDMI connector.

3d vision 2 is significant even on non lightboost displays.
I have a DLP projector, the ghosting I see on 3d vision 1's are pretty terrible(when you consider a dlp display). Now when I use 3d vision 2's on my dlp projector they are my favorite glasses. Ive gone through so many glasses trying to find the best and they outperform all of them.
That 1080p HMD is 1080p@24hz.

Lightboost is da bomb.... However I' wouldn't completely agree about the glasses alone being worth upgrading. I tested old and new on an Acer Hn274HBbmiid and there was no significant difference but the size that is ... (the monitor itself sucks, though....)
