Panasonic TX-P50GT30 and 3d vision i know, another tv thread :(
Hi,

i am considering a panasonic plasma and i wanted to know if anyone has one and what the 3d experience is like?
is it possible to get the 1080p at 60hz with the 3d play 'mod'?

or if its a lemon, is there any tv in the 1000€ range that you would reccomend?

I don't think so. As far as I know only Samsung 3DTVs support Checkerboard mode. If you want to play 3D Vision games in Checkerboard mode using Rollermod, you ought look for a Samsung 3DTV and make sure it supports checkerboard mode. Take a good look at the manual to find this information before you purchase a 3DTV.
At least you came here for help before buying a 3DTV, usually folks buy TV and then comes to ask if Rollermod fits his needs. Be smart, don't make a mistake and make sure to buy a Samsung TV if you really want to play games in 1080p60hz. If you choose Panasonic, you'll be buying an amazing 3DTV, but you'll be doomed to play games at 720p60hz.

I don't know much about the new Samsung 2011/2012. I've seen a few but I can point to you which ones have Checkerboard support. I know the Samsung 2011/12 3DTVs have evolved a lot and are now much better than previous 2010 versions because they now use a superior active 3D technology relying on bluetooth glasses. You now get a very bright 3D picture and almost zero flicking. The bluetooth glasses are very good and they never flicker, I mean never!!!! Also, the ghosting level is now way better thanks to the new glasses I think, so even the LED models now have very good ghosting level.

I own a Samsung C7000 Plasma 2010 3DTV and I love my TV, but unfortunately the glasses are infrared, so I do get flicker sometimes and it can be really annoying. I'm glad I bought a Plasma TV, so the ghosting level is quite good for movies, but there's still a few and for 3D Vision/3DTV Play gaming It has more ghosting than usual, not sure why though? The Samsung 2010 LED Samsung models had tons of ghosting and I woudn't recommend it at all. But like I said the 2011 models have evolved quite a lot and I felt the ghosting issues are now way compared to the 2010 models.

I think the Samsung 2011/12 models D8000 and D7000 LED do support checkerboard, but you ought check that taking a look at the TV's instructions manual. This info is something the seller won't know for sure, you must check this by yourself. These 3D hidden modes such as Checkerboard, Frame Sequential and Interleaved are not advertised and most of stores that sells these TVs are not aware of this bonus.

I think the new Samsung 3D Plasmas no longer support these hidden 3D modes such as Checkerboard based on reports I get from time to time in threads I read in this very forum, so I think you'll have to go LED instead. I have no idea why Samsung is keeping checkerboard for the LEDs and not Plasmas? We all know Samsung is the biggest LED painel manufacturer in the world, so that leads for more efforts towards LED. Its a pity cause I find Plasma the best for movies and gaming and if not Panasonic, Samsung are my favorite brand for Plasma. The new Samsung Plasma also use bluetooth 3D glasses, but I haven't tried one yet, but I imagine the 3D is now much better compared to my TV, more light and less ghosting.

Just keep in mind, if you want to use Rollermod and benefit from 1080p60hz for gaming, you must get a Samsung TV, not LG, Panasonic or Sony.

In 2010 I also wanted to get a Panasonic 3D Plasma cause I love Plasma and I know Panasonic is the best. Samsung plasma was way cheaper and the 3D quality was outstanding in my opinion, maybe not as good as Panasonic, but close and the price difference didn't appeal to me for getting a Panasonic. A few months then I found out about Rollermod after I read a thread in this forum, and I was so happy I bought one of the few TVs that allowed me to play 3D games at 1080p60hz checkerboard mode. Before that I wasn't even aware about what was Checkerboard, LOL???

I was so frustrated when I 1st tried 3DTV Play and it's 720p60hz limitation due to HDMI 1.4 specs. 720p in a 63" screen looks hideous and I cound't stand that. After I tried Rollermod and played a few games in 1080p60hz the difference was so noticeable that I thought to myself, If I could now exchange my C7000 Plasma TV for a 2011 Panasonic with superior image quality, I woudn't trade it for the world, cause 3D gaming at 1080p is something you can't ignore and go back to ugly scaled 720p, specially when using a 3DTV.
