Metro 2033 with 3D problems PC hangs on in few minutes of playing in 3D
hi there!
i've got a problem with metro 2033 when 3D mode enabled.
the game hangs the PC on after just a few minutes of playing when 3D Vision is enabled. not matter what video settings i set - very high or very low - the effect is the same every time. PC goes for eternal sleeping with black screen so no any cntrl-alt-del can help but only restart whole the PC.
i tried to "play" with some CPU functions in BIOS, changed settings in drivers - nothing helped.
i tried start metro 2033 without 3D Vision with the highest settings and game works OK
few another games with 3D Vision work just fine
config:
cor i7-2600k
8gb RAM
2 TB HDD
2x580 Geforce SLI
1200 watt PSU
last video drivers
no any kind of OC

Im getting the same problem. Many problems started occuring after the 260 or 266 drivers, can't remember which now. I noticed they fixed the laser light issue and some others in the 285 drivers, but i was still crashing.
You might try the 260 drivers if your 580 supports it. I know going backwards with drivers sucks, but they may work. MSAA might be causing it going by the comments in this thread, have you tried turning it off?

thanks for answering!
i checked the link you gave me, but no any effect i had changing AA as was described over there
it seems the only way to fix it is using older nvidia drivers and that's majority sux for sure
the things are: the game marked as 3D Ready by Nvidia can't be played in 3D AT ALL - it's funny isn't it?
how can i report these guys this issue? they need to fix it or remove the game from rate list becouse we have some kind of fraud here

Keep in mind, there is no performance difference between the 260 and the 285 driver [that i noticed] in Metro 2033. Just make sure 3D Vision is uninstalled in your programs list before you try installing the 260. You should try it, once its dialed in, the game is perfect. Also, I can only run the game at High, actually i don't like the very high setting because it blurs the screen too much as well, but i do go into the .ini files and set ambient occlusion [ao] and global illumination [gi] to on [1] and i really like the look and the computer seems to handle it.

Just ran into this page and noticed the effect 4xaa has on the scene. See how it makes it blurry and ruins the sharpness? Yuck! I'm definitely going to make sure thats not happening in my game. I think i'd much rather have AA off. I think this might explain why lately i've been thinking Metro 2033's aren't as good as i used to think, i just upgraded my computer and have had AA enabled for awhile... /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

well, frankly i don't care of AA, but of possibility to play in 3D first of all =)
even if lastest drivers give no any perfomance in metro 2033, i believe i should have some profit in another games i have along with it. roll back to previous (and very old) drivers version just for one the very game isn't a good move for real.
anyway it makes no honor to Nvidia letting this issue to be such long time for game (i underline) with perfect rating.
by the way, what drivers do you advice me to install - whole drivers package (video + 3D Vision) or 3D vision drivers only?
ps i dunno what configuration you have but i have no comfortable FPS if run the game in 3D with maximum video settings. demo shows me only 30 avarage FPS if 3D mode enabled VS 70 FPS if 3D is disabled. so eventually it's better to play on high details with some FPS improve i believe
anyway how can i report this isiiue to Nvidia? i don't really think this is good idea to let the things be that way

I'd try the 260 drivers and DO uninstall the 3D vision, i'd make sure it is uninstalled in the control panel before i installed the 260. It should uninstall the 3D vision automatically, I think I had a weird problem that might not apply to you though.
I have a single gtx570, so you should be good to go on any setting. Just make sure DOF is disabled obviously. Tessellation has a big hit and does not always have a positive effect in my opinion.

i will try to off DOF option. dunno what is that =)
i still don't understand what you advice me to do.
1) uninstall whole 285 drivers include 3D Vision drivers and install 260 video drivers and 260 3D Vision drivers
2) uninstall only 3D Vision drivers and keep 285 video drivers and then install 260 3D Vision drivers

Lol, just do #1
Note: starting with the 260 dirvers, 3D vision comes within the drivers. No need for a separate 3D Vision download.
DOF is in the DirectX 11 options, it is recommended to disable by Nvidia.

You might try the 260 drivers if your 580 supports it. I know going backwards with drivers sucks, but they may work. MSAA might be causing it going by the comments in this thread, have you tried turning it off?

Try doing it without sli and see what happens. Then try a driver from a year ago.
