Is The Driver update the big 3d mid January announcement ?

Normally I'd lay the blame solely at the devs/engines feet, especially when some of them have made official announcements saying their engines support 3D Vision but there's one teeny tiny problem with blaming just them. NVIDIA isn't giving us the Stereoscopic 3D drivers for free, you either need to buy a 3D Vision Kit or pay for 3DTV Play, and that's my main issue. TriDef is selling basically the same exact thing, albeit with a hell of a lot more features, and actively supporting it and actually fixing games and they only get money from you once. NVIDIA on the other hand, gets money from your GPU(s), 3D Vision Kit/3DTV Play, etc ... and until lately hasn't don't anything but add 'I wouldn't play that in 3D if I were you' messages to profiles ... well that an the occasional breaking crap on you and or taking things away. Oy. :) I guess my main point is 3D Vision isn't just a 'tech' like PhysX, it's an actual product, that they've been selling to people all along and not really supporting ... most of this community has been doing way more to ensure that 3D Vision/3DTV Play works properly for people that have purchased into it than they have ...
I think what Nvidia is doing with the new 3D Vision Automatic algorithm for broken games is actually saving 3D Vision... (overall). It would have been much more easier JUST to PULL the plug but they didn't.
I believe the new 3D Vision Automatic is a savior for NVidia's marketing. They still get to put "3D Vision" on all the GPU boxes with good conscience. And in the short term, its a savior for 3D Vision users. We get to play some of these great AAA titles with at least a playable 3D which do I dare say actually enhances the regular 2D experience. However, in the long term, if NVidia isn't going to do anything else to support the game developers, this new 3D Vision Automatic will only serve to kill "Real" 3D Vision as we know it. Why would developers who are already indifferent to 3D Vision ever support real 3D, when 3D Vision Automatic is relatively easy for NVidia to implement directly into the drivers? Sure, we might get a gem every now and then like Tomb Raider or Metro Last Light, but thats it. One or two true titles a year.
So there you have it.. Let's not forget that Surround is in the same boat as 3D Vision (maybe even a bit worse even))
And I also completely agree with you and feel your pain on 3D Vision Surround. I've come to realize (as apparently have developers and NVidia for that matter) that I'm probably one of only a couple hundred people in the world with this set up. As awesome as it is when its working properly, those experiences are few and far between.
