Can you connect Via HDMI? Using a 720p 120hz projector
Hi,

I am just wondering whether anyone can help me clear some things up as I am having problems with 3D in general lately!

I bought an Optoma HD67 recently which is 3D capable (although I know not supported by Nvidia)
I assumed that this was going to work with the PS3 - but apparently it wont so it looks like I need to update my HTPC to work with 3D.

I know at one point 3D used to need dual DVI outputs but is that still the case or can 3D be transmitted via HDMI 1.3 to my DLP Projector?

I am prepared to swap my (brand new!) Optoma with an Nvidia compatible projector if it means that I can play games and watch blurays in 3D, and whether its through a PC or a PS3 I dont really care (though the PS3 was going to be the much cheaper option)

So anyway, yeah - do any Nvidia graphics cards support 3D @ 120hz through HDMI 1.3? (and this would only be 720p)

And if so, are there any passive, but powerful graphics cards out there which I can put into my HTPCV system? I am currently thinking about this card: http://www.dabs.com/products/zotac-geforce...ition-6Z2W.html

Note that the card must be compatible with 3D bluray.

many thanks for the help.

I think you should look at my posts on this thread to get it working, currently have HDMI working on the HD66 which is the same as the HD67 but the HD67 is just the international number of it so enjoy :)

Edit: Working on PC that is not PS3 and graphics card is only a GTX260, because I only have to do 720P@120hz pretty much all the latest games run great.
Games, Bluray 3D or mkv 3D, TV 3D broadcasts all work fine on it like your asking about.

I find 2x 9800GTX / GTS250 not enough in 3d, and thats much faster than a GTX285.

Allso anti aliasing is a must, so Im upgrading to 3 cards ( cheap).

That means you are looking at GTX470 perfomance.

Thanks thats really useful, I will look at that later on.

Do you happen to know if there is a passive version of the GTX260?

Its not a major issue as I could build a PC that sat in another room I guess - would just be easier if it was silent...

Sorry if im pestering, but I want to be sure before i blow any more money - can you use DLP Link glasses with this set up or do you still need to purchase some Nvidia glasses.

Not that im apposed to buying some, its just DLP Link ones are much cheaper and straight forward to use.

Thanks

I can't hear my card at all or my system for that matter just stock fan cool, it's a Gigabyte GTX260OC if your interested.
Good news you can use all both at the same time but to use Nvidia 3D vision drivers for games you need there glasses.
But you can still use the DLP link glasses at the same time, just one is getting white light and one is getting IR from the Nvidia emitter.

DLPLInk is a POS, business, classroom application , not HT. Just ask around

the white light is sent out by the screen, so theres a white flash every once a while ( white colorwheel).

This kills black levels real bad.

What I have noticed first hand is that the discolouration completely dissapars once you put the glasses on.

I beleive that the shutter glasses stay closed during this white cycle, so it is invisible once you have the glasses on. so basically left eye stays open for red, Yellow, blue, then closes before white. The right eye then opens after the white and stays open for red, yellow then blue and finally shuts before the white.

it is apparent when you see it in action, the blue/grey screen immediately dissapears once the glasses sync. the only problem you are left with is the inherent dimness of shutter glasses and turning the projector settings up a touch fixed this.

I was able to get an acceptable picture through DLP Link, wasnt as good as without the glasses obviously, but nothing was too badly discoloured - and I am one hell of a fussy mofo when it comes to image quality.

Just thinkint, theoretically If i could obtain an IR emmitter but didnt have any glasses this would still wotk with DLP Link glasses then.

The system would just assume that I had the Nvidia glasses.

The reason why i am saying this is because the Nvidia glasses wont shut before and after the white flash, so it will see a discoloured image, while the cheaper DLP ones will not.

I am looking at having to buy at least 4 sets of glasses you see, and im just not prepared to buy 4 sets of Nvidia ones!

Shame really cuz these DLP ones are friggin ugly and uncomfortable, but also half the price of the Nvidia ones...

hm thanks for solving the puzzle then for me.

I think these glasses will be cheap.Howveer , the best is obviously the sony which is a reald ce4 with IR.

-theres a dlplink version of those, ce5 , runs for 450 usd, retailed 600 originally.

I want to hack those. Xpand gives 500 contrast rating , thats too bad imho.
