Ok, in Control Panel click 'system' then at the top left click 'device manager'. Now double click monitors in the list to expand and right click on whichever is your CRT and select 'Update Driver Software'. In the new window that pops up, click 'browse my computer for driver software'. Then click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'. Then click 'Have Disk', then 'browse' and find the inf file on your PC. Next click OK, highlight 'NoLimits monitor for GeForce 2 Ti/Pro/GTS' and click Next, then it should warn you about the driver being unsigned, but click 'install anyway', and you should be done.
Then when you go into Add Resolution (in the nvidia control panel under Change Resolution) and click Create Custom Resolution the test should now work and the mode will be added correctly.
Just use that inf I linked to above which is already edited.
PS: I followed your instructions, and I get the location of the davemon.inf file which tells me no driver can be found for my 64 bit OS. I never get to the point where you select Nolimit monitor, Do I need to edit anything for the inf file to work ?. !!!.

You need to use the modified inf I linked to, the original doesn't work on a 64 bit OS, or modify the original yourself. Btw if you right click and 'save as' windows renames it to davemon64.inf.txt so rename and delete the .txt off the end so it's just called davemon64.inf

Try the file in the zip file I've attached below, that should work. I think the problem you're having is you have 'hide file extension for common file types' turned on (it's on by default), so windows is hiding the .txt extension.

Yep, looks like you're right, it was the drivers that fixed it, not the monitor inf. I got the generic CRT driver to 1280*960 @ 120 Hz. Either way, it's fixed, woohoo :D
Just need some sync timing options now to reduce the ghosting, then I'll be in 3D heaven.

I'd like to make a small addition to this topic. I have an old Iiyama vision master pro 510 CRT monitor, and had thesame problems with the 85 hz c®ap.
I first installed the davemon.inf driver on my 32-bit win7 machine -no dice
After this I tried installing the 195.81 beta driver from nvidia -again no dice.
I noticed however, that on my left screen (Iiyama visionmaster pro 511) I was able to choose refresh rates higher then 85 hz now. The 2 screens on my right also had additional refresh rate options, so I figured the beta drivers actually did the trick for my 3 other displays, but something else was keeping my main display from going above 85 hz.
The other thing I noticed, was that the 511 on my left (which is almost thesame as the 510) wasn't automatically recognized by win7 as being a visionmaster pro 511, while my 510 originally was recognized and installed by win7.
Long story short, I took a vga extension cable (which I could safely mod without messing with the monitor's vga cable) and clipped out pin 12. This pin sends the ddc data to the computer, which is used to indentify the monitor. Clipping it out keeps win7 from identifying the monitor and so it will see it as a generic non-pnp monitor. After clipping it out I installed the davemon.inf driver again, instead of the generic non-pnp driver win7 now installed, and eureka 100hz and more available. \o/ I don't even have to make custom resolutions for them, they're all there in the advanced - monitor tab.
You can find the pinouts on google (make sure you find the correct one for the male pinout) -> Male vga pinout. Afaik, clipping this pin is pretty harmless, but I would use a vga extension cable, so you dont mess up your monitor's cable.
Keep caution with upping your refresh rates though. If you set them above the specifications of your monitor, you could end up blowing it up.

The "Apply Refresh Rates" check box never stays checked after I hit apply and close out. Not sure if it's supposed to. Either way, it won't lock to 100hz with that option.

ok, i have a KDS Xflat XF-9e which the invidia driver finds fine.. but I connort get the refresh rate above 85 even with the driver from a few posts ago. I just want to make sure this monitor will work with the 3d vision. thanks

Try the file in the zip file I've attached below, that should work. I think the problem you're having is you have 'hide file extension for common file types' turned on (it's on by default), so windows is hiding the .txt extension.
