Ripping Hair out from Frustration!... SOLVED
/thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Right, Today I brought a brand new toshiba a660 that had the nvidia 3d vision included. Now I am not very technological minded like most seem to be on these forums /argh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':argh:' /> , so I don't have any bloody idea on what anything is said when it comes to parts, codecs (whatever they are). Now I've gone thru the wizard like the lil book said and it was all well and good, but when i came to play a 3d bluray movie I specially went out and purchased just to see what its all about, IT DIDNT WORK!! I am beginning to feel ripped off, that or I've no bloody idea what im doing. I've tried to play the movies in all players such as Corel WinDVD, Windows media. When I TRY to play the movie in Corel WinDVD it comes up with a message "This Blu ray requires a Blu Ray 3d Player connected to a 3d display. Your blu ray player does not support Blu ray 3d." So would anyone like to tell me what I am doing wrong Or what I'm not doing right as I really dont wanna be put off this laptop within having it for less then 24 hrs. Thanks! /angel.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='O:)' />

Sounds like your blu ray player is a regular blu ray player and not a 3D blu ray player. Most blu ray players are not capable of playing 3D movies. It's not enough just to have the 3D vision kit.

Sounds like your laptop doesn't have the software required. Try the trial of arcsofts 3d blu-ray player or cyuberlink's and see if that works.

Other possible issues, have you ensured the 3d mode is enabled both in 3d vision and with corel win dvd (I haven't used corel but it does support 3d blu-rays). have you also made sure that the Corel WinDVD you have supports 3d blu-ray as ,any of this players make you need to get the premium version for it to work. Are your nvidia drivers up to date?

And the right software is?

I dont understand why they would sell me a "3d ready laptop" and not have the right player in it. Is it spose to say blu ray 3d on the side where the disk door thing is?

....Ummmm, are you sure about that? I'm not that tech savvy, but I really thought that blu-ray players have to be 3D specific. Not trying to argue, but just want to be enlightened.

Apparently the Corel WinDVD software can play 3d content back. It could possibly be that you set up nvidia 3d fine, but according to that link you also have to setup 3d in Corel WinDVD too.

Another thought: the site suggests only the "Pro" version of Corel WinDVD can playback 3d blu-ray movies. So I guess verify that you indeed are using the pro version.

But my money is on you have to configure to 3d specifics inside the Corel WinDVD program.

Hope this helps

--Edit-- And I too believe any normal bluray player inside a PC/laptop can play 3d blurays. Its all a matter of software. I just read what Suntory_times wrote. On the same wavelength!

If I remember right, the BluRay player's speed has to be 2x or some such. It's very hard to find one that is not compatible.

However, you DO need the special software. Why? Because there are still all sorts of patents on this stuff so any company that makes a player must pay money to the patent holders (Sony?). That means the software is going to set you back $100 or so. If you're looking for a list of players that work, note 1 on this list gives you some companies making software for it.

More or less. Stand alone players are a different story to blu-ray drives on pc. :) Basically the only thing that may make it not work is if the pc didn't have enough power to run it which would make the movie stutter.

This. I shall download the trial soon (probably tonight) and see what you have to do to get it running in 3d and then shall report back. :)

Yeah, i've heard it many times now, internal PC blu-ray players will play 3D just fine with the accompanying software. On a closely related note, is Nvidia causing Suntory_Times to pull HIS hair out???

Fellow Aussie here. Better importing your 3d blu-rays anyway as they cost noticably less the vast majority of the time.

Fellow Aussie here. Better importing your 3d blu-rays anyway as they cost noticably less the vast majority of the time.

I assume you mean 3d blu-rays. Most are region free. If you import from uk and most of europe is the same region as us, and most blu-rays in america are also region free. You can do a quick check on the disc before you buy at the below link though. I'm down in Victoria, and I also prefer the cold. I actually work somewhat within the airport industry and have had several chaotic days due to the ash and have been called numerous things as I wouldn't apologize and take responsibility for flights not running (and I don't even work for an airline which is the funny part). I came up with a theory put all the people who want to still fly into a room.... then blow it up. :D

If it is region b compatible, it runs with australian players. :)
