Nvidia 3D Crashes ie9 Can recreate this 100% of the time
Hey andrew, just formatted my computer due to still getting 3d screen lock on my screen intermidantly (also its been a year so it was due). Decided to give ie9 a go (instead of chrome) as ive heard good things about it plus it means one less program to download.
when trying to shut any tab with anything from google.com (and likely many other sites)
internet explorer 9 comes up with:
internet exploer has stopped responding
IE9 closes fine, but i always get this message.
looking in event viewer i read this
Noticing it was an nvidia dll causing the problem i diabled 3d. No more crashes. Enable it, crashes. I have wasted a ton of time uninstalling and reisntalling both ie9 and Nvidia drivers. Still has this issue. This is a completly formatted, brand new computer with NO software or hardware yet installed, so im pretty sure you will be able to confirm this on your computers.
Cheers
Elliot
EDIT: Turning off gpu aceleration in ie9 settings prevents this issue, allowing 3d to stay on. Please can this be addressed for next update :-)

I just tried this in IE9. I can't get it to crash on Google.Com at all. I've switched between software rendering and....
OH!!!
It just crashed! Dang thing sure took long enough (a couple of minutes), but it did it. Event log shows the same for me, except different process id and start time. I can just close the dialog box asking to close or debug IE and the other tab (the one I'm typing in now actually) keeps working fine.

Hi
I think we can reproduce this problem in house. If you disable stereoscopic 3D, it doesnt crash, right?

Just to add to this I am having the same issue with the latest (170) drivers regardless of 3d running or not.
When I close IE9 I get the crash dialogue every time so its something that has been introduced in the latest drivers.
Disabling acceleration, like others said, fixes the issue for now.

Hi
We are aware of this crash bug and are working on a fix in our next major driver release.
[/quote]
i crashed tonight from the same thing.
was watching videos as usual and the browser was choking for some time, then finally crashed.
i was having trouble with the browser crashing with the 275.33 drivers.
ie9 kept telling me flash was crashing.
so..
i figured it was the same bug that i was seeing on windows xp.
the solution for windows xp is to install version 266.58 drivers.
well, i uninstalled 275.33 and installed version 266.58 .... and now i get the nvwgf2um.dll crashing ie9
the above message was posted may 6th
version 275.33 was released june 1st
i am curious to note if the 275.33 drivers were supposed to supply a fix.
was there a fix included with the june 1st drivers..?
or
has the 'next major release' not happened yet?
i dont know what the hell i am supposed to do.
both versions of drivers crashed the browser and 275.33 drivers are such a punk ... typing in a forum box like this gets all choked up and trying to freeze.
i lose the blinking text icon and the whole feel of being on the internet gets congested as if it has the flu.
i havent tried the 'disable 3d acceleration' yet.
but
i know i dont have any stereoscopic or other 3d processing enabled.
simply me and some flash videos, with hardware acceleration checked on the 'settings' menu of adobe flash.
should i be staying with version 266.58 and disabling hardware acceleration ... or should i be trying some of the newer 'beta' drivers?
**edit**
and my apologies for not being totally on topic with nvidia 3d.
i found this forum post with a web search, after reading it - i posted my reply without looking to see what section of the forum it is in.

What makes you think your crash has anything to do with the one we were getting? Ours only happened in IE9 which doesn't even run on XP and it had nothing at all to do with Flash.

well me and ZeroHour are a match.
and
i was having internet explorer crashes on xp.
now again on windows 7.
as a matter of fact, the symptoms appear to be exactly the same.
things run slow and sluggish for quite some time until i finally get a crash indication with an error prompt.
what i find annoying is..
sometimes the website is simply a forum with flash advertisements on the side or at the bottom.
not a video playing, but still wreaking havoc when i am trying to type a forum reply.
lots of the browser controls completely stop functioning.
i cant reload a page and cant move foward with a link, but i dont remember if the back button works or if the tabs refused to close.
i know it felt like i was completely trapped on the page.
and any text input was being made next to impossible.
missing text cursor, browser refusal to let me click where i want to put the cursor.
what made me think i have any right to be considered 'organized' by participating in this specific incident?
the original post says 'if you disable gpu acceleration in ie9 .. it fixes the problem'
plus
ZeroHour and i share the same report of not using 3d.
certainly does appear to be a problem with the hardware acceleration.. the same specific problem i was having on windows xp.
what makes you think you are too special to include an ie8 windows xp 'gpu acceleration' crash with an ie9 windows 7 'gpu acceleration' crash?
it was easily fixable with windows xp.
however,
i have went to the same driver version and disabled the 'gpu acceleration' from within ie9 and i am seriously not happy with the performance.
i have also disabled hardware acceleration from the flash video settings (been trying it both on and off)
the browser isnt as quick and snappy as it was when i installed the operating system four days ago.
i dont like seeing or feeling the browser slow, sluggish, and acting like it is confused or under somebodies control.
it makes me wonder what the hell is causing it to slowdown, and what harm is being done/attempted that i cannot see.
wrap all of that up together and chew it for a while.. maybe suck on the remains too.

i cant reload a page and cant move foward with a link, but i dont remember if the back button works or if the tabs refused to close.
i know it felt like i was completely trapped on the page.
and any text input was being made next to impossible.
missing text cursor, browser refusal to let me click where i want to put the cursor.
what made me think i have any right to be considered 'organized' by participating in this specific incident?
the original post says 'if you disable gpu acceleration in ie9 .. it fixes the problem'
