GTX 1080/1070 - 3 or 4 way SLI will NOT be supported at all.
FYI, in case anyone is crazy enough to be considering this. The language in this article doesn't give me great hope for 2-way SLI either. "DX12 and NVIDIA VR Works SLI technology also allows developers to directly implement and control multi-GPU support within their games. If a developer chooses to use these technologies then their game will not need SLI profiles. Some developers may also decide to support more than 2 GPUs in their games." This sounds an awful lot like "we want other people to do our work for us". Hopefully DX12's multi-gpu support will solve everything, but I'm not optimistic. http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/GeForce-GTX-1080-and-1070-3-Way-and-4-Way-SLI-will-not-be-enabled-games

Old news... It has been like this forever related to SLI. IF the DEV IMPLEMENTS SLI IN THEIR ENGINE... you don't need a SLI flag, the engine enumerates the GPUs and uses them accordingly. IF no SLI is coded then we rely on the DRIVERS heuristics to make SLI work. This is the case since the beginning. Like I said, OLD news. For me SLI always worked and is working, but maybe is because I am using 3 screens rather than one. For one screen SLI is 80% of the time useless. It does work but I never saw it work 99%/99% like it does in Surround.

It does seem like they're pushing to rely more on developers this time around though. That just seems lazy to me, and I can't see most devs going the extra mile to support multi-gpu natively.

I'd really like to hear this directly from NVidia instead of from an article on a different site.

Yeah honestly, sounds like they are just making it official. when has 3x 4x SLI ever really worked well enough to invest in it. I'm not hearing anything new here. From what I can see you can still petition for a key to unlock it if you really want to try 3x 4x.

I figure one GPU per screen is the way to game. ;)
