Cable not long enough?
I recently purchased a Benq XL2410T and a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 470 which worked great!

But I needed the display to be elsewhere so I purchased a 5M Dual Link DVI Cable from eBay. After rigging this up I received a message asking me to please use the original cable that came with the display when running things at 120hz.

I placed an email to BenQ's tech support and there response was:

"please use a shorter DVI dual link cable , such as 1.5 meter."

to which I replied

"I appreciate your response however there is nothing I can do about the distance. If there is no way the monitor will work at 5m let me know and I will return it."

the reply was:

"i am sorry to have to say this but 5m is too long and the problem will continue."

So is this actually the case, is the marvellous new 3D technology really limited to 1.5 meters?!? Neither the monitor nor the card support HDMI 1.4 so DVI is my only option so this post is my last attempt to solve the issue before I send the whole lot back.

Many Thanks

Long DVI cables are a crap shoot at high refresh rate, I have a 50 ft one somewhere that won't even work at 1280x1024@60Hz without noise on screen.
I'm sure some people will post that they run 15+ft cables without issue but it depends on the cable, and there is no real way to verify a cable will work other than plugging it in and seeing.

Thanks for your response. This seems like a massive floor in the technology. I guess a lot of people will be returning there equipment when they realise.

You need a dual link DVI Repeater. Click

It's not a flaw (or a floor) I'm afraid. Like the other poster says, the only way to be sure with any given cable is to test it.
Nothing to do with the monitor. If you buy cheap cables off ebay (like I have in the past) then you have to take your chances.
I have 2 10M hdmi cables I bought off ebay. One works fine at 120Hz and the other doesn't...

If it's simply a matter of splashing out on a more high end cable I'm fine with that, as I said to BenQ tech support but they told me point blank that it wouldn't work above 1.5m!!

I'm sure they're wrong about that, or maybe it's just an unusual request so they've decided it's not a 'supported' configuration. Unless someone else on here knows better?

I've been in the same position with 10m and 15m VGA, HDMI and DVI cables! Do you splash out £40+ on a 'quality' cable or gamble on the £10 ebay option.
If I could point you to a good ebay seller I would, but they seem to change suppliers at random and the pictures on the auctions are never a reliable guide to what you're going to get.

Maybe you could try a couple and send them back if they don't work?
