Think my new 250 is heat challanged Cant get the system monitor or performance tools to work
I want to check my temps with system monitor and try to increase the fan speed too but the two options dont appear. In the software section, under downloads, the site (nvidia) it says they are in the newest drivers, which i do have. Befor, this was a seperate download/add-on that added it to the nv control panel, both the performance and the monitoring apps that is. Now even running with the side of the pc open i get limited play time befor artifacts and problems start to show up. I have bought a second identical card to test my system with (returned it after testing-no problems with the new card-YA I AM THAT KIND OF A GUY. So, does anyone know if im doing it wrong (that made me laugh- doing it wrong lol) or are those options not allowed with 3d vision driver sets?

The newest whql certifed driver has issues with causeing monitoring software to not work correctly. The newest beta release has fixed this. Or you can try a older driver. But as I stated thats a known issue with the newest whql driver.
I think 196.34 is the one you want. Check here.
I have followed the link to nv beta 196.34, I have installed but still no performance tools or system monitor, it but HAS given me DX 11 which unless im mistaken, was only DX 10.1 in the previous drivers-I maybe wrong and just never noticed DX 11. Anyways still getting artifact and no way to see what is happenings-funny though as i was finding them (new driver) to download the screen was just awful to navigate through the static but as soon as i hit "run" after downloading the drivers, BAM the whole screen clears right up..........
So if anyone (looks at Andrew) has any idea on how to get performance tools (to increase fan speed) or system monitor (to see my temps) to work/show up please let me know.
Thanks in advance,

you may have to uninstall and reinstall system tools to get it working. But before you do try EVGA precision tuner and see if it works under the driver you are currently on.

I got it to work now, may have even worked befor but doesnt explain why they dont show up in the nv control panel. I had to go into my computer, then program files, find the nvidia folder, select system monitor folder or performance tools folder, open those folders, find the app file (there is 3 apps that are selectable for each-monitor/performance......i guessed right) and then after clicking on the app............bamm, you have access-you dont even have to instal. Weird that i have to go throught all that for a simple thing.
Have not tried the performance tools yet but my gc temps idle are 47*c (with the side cover of the pc open-room temp is 72*f). Running Avatar (dx9/no 3d) for 10 mins causes artifacts and snow with a temp of 62*c (no cover on the side of the pc). I dont know what the heat thresh hold is so this may still be ok temp wise. I will have to try to increase fan speed next as the gc does not seem to rev up like others i have had. Sould be alot louder in the case.
PS the monitor is not real time so you have to alt-tab out to get the real temp at that moment.

As EG said, try EVGA Precision. You can monitor the GPU temps and core usage onscreen while gaming. Temps drop very fast as soon as the 3D app. closes, so Alt-Tab isn't giving you an accurate temp.

Ya this is all fu#ked up now, No stereoscopic control with that driver (figured so but wanted the tools for a test), so will reinstal the other i was using. I did download the avga precision tool and it workd flawlessly. Thanks, realtime monitoring is nice AND i can control the fan speed. No matter what i could not get the performance tools from nvidia to work.....they are there in the nvidia folder and when selected they ask for permission to start but nothing after that.
I used the evga tool to increase fan speed to 98% (finally got it to rev up) the tem is 40 @ idle and 52ish with load. I played Mass Effect 2 for 1 hour with no problems. I have not had a chance to try 3d as it does not function right now. Will reinstal the previous driver set now and test again with 3d. I really think its a fan problem (not increasing properly) and will only require me to increase the fan myself-this is much better then filling out a ticket and sending the card away for repairs. Wil have to retire this piece of crap soon enuff anyways. I always thought it was a fan as the test model i bought was far louder than this one under the same load.
So off to do some driver changes and some 3d mass effect 2........if i can now.

Problem solved.........so far. It is a fan issue, the fan is just not responding to heat build-up. Force 100% fan with 3d vision i get temps of 47-55*c with no artifacts or static. With out 3d i stay around 47*c under load.
