Glass Won't Start
I just got my 3d vision 2 yesterday and everything worked fine. However, I cannot get the glasses starting today. AT first, I thought it was battery problem and I charged until the light stopped blinking but the glasses is still not working. Nothing happens when I push the on button, no green lights or anything. I have already tried uninstall all drivers using DDU and re-install, didn't help. My gear: GTX 970 Asus VG278HE 120Hz 3D vision 2 I just can't believe it broke after 30 minutes of using. Please help me! Thanks!

If you plug the glasses in, is there any light?

Hi Pirateguybrush: Thanks for replying! If I plug in, a orange light will blink for about 1 min and remains on. I suppose it means that it is fully charged.

You should also check if the emitter is working. You can use (almost) any digital camera to check - if you point it at the emitter you should see a flickering purple light if it is on.

What Driver and OS are you using? After booting the emitter should be dimly glowing green. If the emitter is red, try a different USB Port. Make sure that your Motherboard's USB drivers are up to date. Also in the Nvidia control panel, in the "Set up stereoscopic 3D" tab, are you seeing a green Nvidia Logo? There's a drop down menu for the "Stereoscopic 3D display type", if it says 3D Vision Discover, you'll need to switch it to the Asus 120Hz 3D LCD. Also know that 3D does not work on every game. So you'll have to research each game. A lot of games have community fixes that can be applied to enhance compatibility. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/10/game-list-automatically-updated.html

And to add to the above, the green light on the glasses will not necessarily stay on even though the glasses are activated. Not to insult your intelligence with this particular hardware, but if you are just looking for a steady green light on the glasses, you may be overthinking it. Secondly, I don't recall the orange light staying lit the entire time the glasses are plugged in. If your emitter is glowing bright green when a game loads, it's possible that the glasses are simply not charged up still.

For 3D Vision 2 glasses, the LED will stay solid amber when it's fully charged. http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2301/~/charging-3d-vision-glasses With the nvidia test image up, when you turn the glasses on, do you see them dim the light? You should see them darken as they shutter between half on/half off. Look closely at the left temple when hitting the button. There is a tiny green LED that you can see in the button itself that will stay on for just awhile after you turn them off.

@OP You seem to mention that the glasses were working? Did you actually see the test image or game in 3D while looking through the glasses? I ask because I just went through a bunch of crap regarding the 3D vision 2 glasses. I have ordered these by the half dozen in the past, for myself and various customers that I built rigs for, and never had an issue. Lately, however, I have ordered 3 pairs, just the 3D Vision 2 glasses, not the kit, and they ALL arrived DOA (properly sealed and all that) I would plug them in for their initial charge and waited for the Ind. Light to be a 'steady' orange, well that never happened, after 12+ hours the orange light was still blinking. Now, I usually will plug them in for a few minutes, then (while plugged in) I give them a quick test to make sure they are functional, nothing happened at all, so I figured they changed batteries, something may be different, so I tried unplugging them, still nothing (no red light either) So, that's when I charged them overnight for the 12 hours, and still nothing. After some research, I have come to find out that their are MANY people that have gone through this exact scenario. As it turns out, they ALL had defective batteries, I mean how does that happen? I assume they are tested before boxing. They are shipped uncharged, and in all my electronic experience over the past 20+ years, have never seen a brand new re-chargeable battery pack simply refuse a charge. Now, if they designed them to work while plugged in REGARDLESS of battery status, then you at least can use them, but nope, if current can't flow through that battery pack, you get nothing but that blinking orange light. I Really wanted to confirm the theory myself before I entered into cross-shipping hell. Luckily, I had some older glasses (generic gen 1's) that feature a similar battery pack. But even that was tricky, I found a couple posts with pics on how to replace the battery from the gen 1's, but could find nothing on the gen 2's, so, I had to figure out how to disassemble the gen 2's. So after some careful tinkering, I got at the battery, and the voltages on both are rated at 3.7v - the current rating on the NV 3DV 2's pack was 80mah and the pack from the generic was rated @ 100mah (so should this work, I would have added some 'play time' between charging) The other tricky part comes into play with the connection itself, a slightly different fit - that was no problem, but the polarity was reversed. I had to carefully remove each pin from the plastic plug, and switch them, anyone who has ever done this on this tiny scale knows what a 'PITA' it can be! So, long story short (always long with me) plopped the new'ish battery in, plugged in the charging cable and right away tried the button, it lit up red and I new I had succeeded - 1 minute later the button was green and functioning. So, if the only sign of life you are getting is a blinking orange button, then 99% chance it's the battery. For others that are curious, I did read about a couple of places that you could order the battery from, the battery was fairly cheap 3 or 4 bucks, but on a BRAND NEW pair you shouldn't have to deal with this. But people were RMA'ing them, they get the new pair and same thing, some had it happen 3 (or more) times before either they gave up or got a pair that worked. So, if you are the tinkering type, it's the time and cost of a cheap battery or even more time and money cross-shipping with NO guarantee the replacement will work. Unless you can get someone to physically try the glasses before shipping them to you (and that is pretty unlikely) The battery option is your best bet. Good Luck, and sorry for the book. I just figure that if I can save someone the frustration I went through, then the detailed post is worth it. ~Nutz

Awesome detail, thanks for taking the time to write it up. If it makes sense, you might want to post some pics on how to get at the V2 batteries, since it's nowhere else to be found. I ran across a similar problem with V1 glasses, where the batteries are getting seriously old now. I think the problem here is that the batteries are getting old, even if unused. V2 shipped originally in Oct 2011. So the first set of glasses out of the factory are coming up on 5 years old. If they've been sitting on the shelf that whole time, it's entirely possible they've just aged out. LiI batteries have a roughly 5 year shelf life. I ran across this on V1 glasses, which are even older. There is a guy selling the exact replacement batteries on eBay, but the batteries are old and I received two dead ones. YMMV. The aging of the battery is the most likely answer I think, as opposed to a trickle drain of some form that would kill the batteries while sitting. You can tell if this is the case by trying to jump-start a prior dead battery, and see if it can then take a charge. Be easier than swapping pins. (BTW, I think it's easier to resolder the battery connections than swap pins.) It would be very interesting to know if the batteries can be jump-started in a pair of DOA V2 glasses.
