Should I just buy AMD for 3d lol

It's not advertised as being compatible with side-by-side, I'm not sure you'd have a legitimate claim to return it. The only way for the seller to test would be for them to unbox it, and try to play sbs content (this only works over hdmi, as well). To play SBS content you have to...well, play it - but then go into the monitor menu, 3d settings, and select side by side. It's a bit of fiddling around to get it working. Best of luck, but I don't like your chances.

I think people take too simplistic a stance when it comes to the price/performance ratio. There's more to it than just a few numbers on a page. First off, the latest AMD cards are reported to throttle more than Nvidia cards (which already throttle too much for my liking). So most of the charts you see on review sites likely over-report Radeon framerates, since they are from short benchmarks, not long gaming sessions. Then there's the power consumption. We're talking roughly 80w more for a Radeon at load. Over the course of a year or two of regular gaming, whatever savings you made buying a Radeon will be eaten into considerably by your extra power costs. Not to mention the increased carbon footprint. Then there's the noise difference: the latest Nvidia cards use some of that company's best ever coolers. The latest Radeons use some of AMD's worst, and by all accounts sound like a jet airplane. Then there's the variety of extra features that only nvidia cards support: PhysX, TXAA, Adaptive Vsync, and of course G-Sync. Yes, we can all wag our fingers at Nvidia for making those things proprietary, but the fact remains that they're all nice things to have, and only Nvidia users can properly enjoy them. When you take into account all of those things, I think the Radeons' price/performance ratio is actually pretty lousy. You're getting more throttling, more noise, more heat, less features, and an increased power bill....all to save a couple of hundred bucks in the short term. I just can't see this tradeoff ever being worth it, unless someone is really strapped for cash (in which case why are they spending their last few hundred dollars on a graphics card?!) Things might totally change next year. But with the current crop of cards from both companies, I much prefer the price/performance ratio of the GTX cards. I know this might sound funny from a Titan SLI owner - the Titans were poor value for money even back when I bought them, and would be totally ludicrous to buy today. But the 780 or 780ti are a different story. The only thing I can see changing all this is if Mantle comes and totally steamrolls nvidia cards. Though it sounds like it'd unlikely to be anything that dramatic. However, having said all that, the big caveat here is CrossfireX. Apparently they've fixed the problems with it and it works well now. Unlike SLI, it works with Tridef, so I can see AMD having a big appeal in that regard......but with all that heat, power usage and noise, adding a second card would be a last resort for me.

Nvidia obviously did their own testing and found the same thing, because they actually volunteered to buy R9 290X retail samples for Tech Report so they could re-review them, lol.

its funny how there are nvidia/amd fanboys while both companies just want to fuck their customers over.

None of this will matter to anybody once Oculus Rift is introduced. Once that is on the market, everyone will forget 3D Vision. Except for me because playing StarCraft 2 in 3D is a must.

I am curious if this is connected. If so its hardware related [Hmd mayhaps. Its curious its mentioned directly below an OR mention]. I guess will have to see but its good to get a "date". Great news so lets just see what it is, presumably G-Sync monitors ala 3d vision bla bla..so there we have it it's pretty clear. And that means NO change to the better for us, NO nvidia support for 3d, same shit as now. Better start saving up for VR as this shit is over!!

VR headset is great but its not one-and-only solution, its great for fps singleplayer games that might start becoming someht8ing more than just shooters. For other genres like izometrical h&s or rtg games and even TPP I dont want to have a VR headset, I want to put them on my wall with my projector and play them that way. Headset is fine but for certain types of games.

I would love a standard HMD over a VR HMD headset. I agree the VR HMD design limits the amount of games that would be "complimentary" to the format. 70 degree FOV 1080P+ HMD is what I really want.

Back in the 90's one now defunct display card OEM would compile/optimize their drivers for the most popular benchmarks creating great scores and lousy actual in game performance.
