Either just use the Dead Island Helper tool which does quite a bit, or just unpack the files manually and edit yourself. Steam and Techland tweeted on if it can get you VAC banned and they said no. So I might try it now.

I'm sorry but the TriDef 3D drivers ROCK! I have a brand new ENVY 17 3D laptop with an ATI Radeon 6xxx series card and running this game in "Virtual 3D Mode" just WORKS! Shadows, pop out, everything. How is it that this mode fixes the issues in 3D? If I don't go into this mode, the game is even broken with the TriDef 3D default generic profile.

Does this TriDef even work with nVidia 3D Vision? I downloaded the Tridef driver and tried to run Dead Island with it but got somewhat the same results as I do with nVidia's own 3D Vision drivers. I Tried to enable the Virtual 3D mode but it cut my framerates by around 80% and the result didn't look any better than the default one. Do I have to enable or disable nVidia 3D Vision from the nVidia control panel when using the TriDef drivers? I know you are using an ATI card but if someone else knows this stuff, please elaborate.

You should disable the S3D in nvidia control panel for better result and usually virual 3d gives you better framerate than normal S3D.

Anyway i dont think this forum is the best place for ask this kind of support... if you are playing with 3dvision ask support here and if you are playing with tridef ask support on their forums... shocking, i know.

I downloaded a trial version of tri def, but don't see virtual 3d mode anywhere. Can someone explain how to set it up properly to run with Dead Island? Thanks

you hit 5 on the numpad in the game to bring up the tridef in game menu. You navigate the menu with the numpad. I think Virtual 3D mode is in the performance menu... but you could have just googled that to find out.

I semi agree this isn't maybe the best place for this discussion with tridef but the gamer in me says let's just all work together and find the best possible way to play this game in 3D... if it turns out to be 3D vision then great, everyone over to my place for green beer and nachos... but until then man how many forums am I a member of?? Iz, tridef, here, heck a few others. It gets tiring to surf around.

PS... what the heck is this low depth high converge method I have been hearing about not only here... I think I saw someone suggest it even for batman.. I mean batman rund fine with depth and 3d vision. AM i missing something. Can someone explain how I set it up. I mean, pick a game and I'll load it and follow your instructions...

I'm having a bit of issue applying the fix to this game. When I apply the fix, I can only hear audio but no video so I have to Ctr+Alt+Del out of game and force a restart coz I can't go back to desktop, nor I can close the game. This exact same thing happens with Dead Island Riptide (both original - not definitive). When I start the game without the fix it runs just fine but of course broken 3D. A couple of years back the fix worked flawlessly when I tested it. Recently I upgraded my system and got time to play this game sitting in my queue lol. I have a dual boot system and this happens on both Windows 10 build 1709 and Windows 8.1. I'm on driver ver 388.59, but tried multiple drivers with same results. Can anyone test it to see if it's common with new driver versions? So I finally figured out why the fix is not working. The file "DX9Settings.ini" is missing from the posted fix. Does anyone have the complete fix without missing files, of if eqzitara can provide the full fix. Thanks :) DX11() Also discovered by change that adding DX11() to the scr settings file will render the game in dx11 so if anyone wants to try fixing it with 3dmigoto :)

[/quote] helixmod does not require the DX9Settings.ini for a fix to work. It is only needed when shader hunting or if specific instructions are needed for a fix. Numerous fixes do not include this file and others contain it though it is not needed, it was simply left in after shader hunting. On a fresh install of W8.1, the game runs fine in 3D. With or without the fix, using Nvidia's default profile. Like you, it initially would not launch with 3D enabled, I had to kill the game in task manager. To get it working, I disabled 3D in NvCP and ran the game. Once in-game, I selected the Fullscreen option and then exited the game. Then re-launched it with 3D enabled once again. W8.1 419.67 3D Vision (1080P@120Hz) It would be nice to see a 3Dmigoto fix, since the dx9 fix disables shadows

BTW, I tried Dead Island. Are you playing Dead Island Definitive Edition? If so, the fix was not made for that version. Also I tried DX11(), but it still showed it as rendering in dx9

Thanks D-Man11 for checking the game. Interesting to know DX9Settings.ini is not required. I'm tying the original Dead Island, not the Definitive. I tried your instructions and a number of ways to get it working on my system but unfortunately it didn't work. I also have Win 8.1 fresh and same driver version. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I tried disabling 3D through NVCP and launch game and then enable 3D again in fullscreen. Tried launching game and pressing CTRL+T to disable 3D then re-enable. Made sure desktop resolution and refresh are same, also fullscreen. Tried creating fresh SCR file with default settings etc. The game runs fine in 3D without the fix. With fix, the game starts and up to loading screen - once you enter the actual game it crashes. You can hear audio only. Only way is to kill the game and relaunch. I appreciate your help. Interesting DX11 mode doesn't work for you. It clearly works for me. You can tell right away the way shadows are drawn. Try the following in your SCR file. I'm sure you can get DX11 mode working. This is also my settings (with DX11 removed of course) Resolution(2560,1440) Monitor(0) BPP(24) FSAA(16) TexBPP(32) TextureQuality("High") Filtering("AnisotropicTrilinear") Fullscreen() Shadows("High") ShadowMapSize(4096) SpotShadowMapSize(4096) Lightmaps() GammaFloat(1.00) MaxRefresh(120) MaterialQuality(0) FXQuality(4) FXFadeLevel(0) WaterQuality(0) GrassQuality(0) EnvQuality("FullDynamic") ShaderPath(5) VSync() DX11() PostProcess("Normal") DisplayDeviceType(0,0.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000) Let me know how it works for you. It would be lovely to try a fix in DX11. Though Definitive Edition already DX11 could also be fixed with tons of improvements.

BTW shadows can also be removed via SCR file by changing to the following: Shadows("High") ShadowMapSize(1) SpotShadowMapSize(1) But the fix posted also removes smoke and fixed some lighting. In DX11 mode even with the above lines shadows still are present and the depth of shadows are quite different than DX9 mode, total mess lol.

PCGaming Wiki suggests running it in W7 compatibility mode for black screen. https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dead_Island I've been changing video.scr to video.txt to edit it with windows notepad, then changing back to scr after saving. But when I launch the game Afterburner shows dx9, then when I go back to video.scr DX11() is missing. I assume the game is rewriting it and it must be saved as read only I guess. BTW, I'm using the updated version of the fix via manual installation http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/02/dead-island.html Perhaps try regedit and change StereoDefaultOn from 1 to 0

I tried DX11 again, but Afterburner shows it as dx9. So perhaps it only enables a certain feature set of dx11. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong? I see this in the video.scr/Settings file !ShaderPath(i) // 0 - 1.1, 1 - 1.4, 2 - 2.0, 3 - 3.0, 4 - x360, 5 - 4.0, 6 - ps3 So I think this is why you see shadows change. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Anyhow, I can't get it to run with the fix today and will try a few things later. Looking at the DLL, it seems to be V1. I tried the latest helix DLL with no luck. I saw this https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=358281763 It seems 2D players with W8/8.1 are also having issues. helix has a proxy function for his DLLs that might work https://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/08/guidehow-to-install-helixmod-game-fixes.html

Thanks D-Man11 for the links. I'll try some more troubleshooting tonight. If you have any success I'd love to hear back. For DX11 mode, I totally forgot to mention, make sure your SCR file is read only. Also, make sure you choose shader model 5 with line "ShaderPath(5)". You can maybe just copy and paste my posted settings to SCR file, just change resolution for your monitor. I always use Windows Notepad to edit the file, and choose "all files" when trying to open the file. Also, the updated and previous posted fix are the exact same. I have a dual boot system with Win 8.1 and Win 10. This problem occurs on both OSs. I had also tested the fix on my previous PC before upgrading. It was a GTX 970 and old X58 platform, same issue. Now it's GTX 1080 ti and X299. I kinda suspect it's new drivers that breaks the fix. It's an old game. Trying a fix for DX11 mode, or even better, the Definitive edition would be lovely. Wish I had the proper knowledge to fix games. I have a list of "really really wish" games yet to be fixed lol.
