If the Acer proves to be flawed then I will not have regretted my decision to go 3D in the most affordable way possible. Either way, I wasn't going to spend $500 on any display.

Hey, this review really turned me off this monitor, too bad I had already bought it once I read this. But for me, this monitor is PERFECT. I don't have any of the issues you did (disappearing text/mouse) I do notice the back light bleeding, but it doesn't really bother me one bit. I think this monitor is perfect, just goes to show peoples opinions are very very different :)

I have been lurking for days trying to decide whther I should jump in to 3D gaming. However, today I bit the bullet and bought the alienware monitor this afternoon. I should have it next Thursday 2/4. I have heard a lot of negative and positive things about the monitor. I don't care about general use. All I care about it gaming. The monitor maybe overpriced but I don't care. I am a tech junkie. I have the PC to do it and I'm going to do it! I'll post my opinions on the monitor once I get it.

I am new to 3D gaming and think the technology will eventually be the future of gaming, but from what I have seen so far, I think we are dealing with beta version. I recently purchased the AW2310 about 1 week ago and haven't been able to get over the ghosting issue on the upper 1/3 of the screen. I believe this is a hardware issue and is unlikely to be solved by driver or software optimization. The best solution I have found is to physically rotate the monitor 180 degrees and rotate the digital image 180 degrees so the top is now the bottom and the bottom is now the top. By doing this I get no ghosting on the new top, but the ghosting is on the bottom where most of the image has less 3D effect given its right in front of you. For about $700 I expected more and will be returning the setup and wait for future implementation of 3D gaming whether that is PC or console version I don't know.

Have you adjusted the factory brightness settings of your LCDs at all? We tune the factory default to be best 3D quality.

I recieved this monitor yesterday and it too is my first venture into the world of 3d Vision. Interestingly ... the ghosting I have on it either isn't as bad as what the people here are reporting ... or they are really sensitive to it. I found it to be completely negligable as it only shows up on maybe the top inch and a half and playing shooters i stare at the center of the screen and never even notice ghosting unless in go looking for it.
Also the ghosting seemed to lessen even more as time went on. I have heard people say its your eyes adjusting I have heard people say it is the monitor warming up. Either way I was EXTREMELY pleased with what I got for my $700.00
Oh to note, I got the glasses left on my door at 8pm last night so I didnt have too long to play with it as I gotta sleep and work ... and even less time due to the fact women fail to understand "a man and his machine." But I had the experience I stated above with the setup with literally everything on default. Monitor was on whatever contrast, colors, and brightness settings that it had when I first plugged it up. 3dvision depth was at default and also no adjustments to colors, contrast, or brightness in the nVidia control panel.

Just got my AW2310 set up a couple hours ago. I have it in dual monitor mode with the Samsung 2233rz and they're side by side. I'm not a professional reviewer or anything and I thought the Samsung looked great to me but I haven't even messed with the Alienware settings yet and it already looks noticeably better. Obviously the resolution difference is apparent but the main thing I noticed was the 3D picture was clearer and brighter. The monitor is also a lot sleeker looking and while it's not much bigger, you still can tell it's a bit bigger and wider.
All I care about is games and second to that is games in 3D and this monitor definitely gives me a clearer, sharper, brighter picture than the Samsung. How much better and if it's worth the money for an upgrade is subjective depending on individual needs, but I'm happy :)

I got mine yesterday, I'm mostly happy with it, but the ghosting is really noticeable sometimes. I think it totally boils down to how many contrast transitions there are in a scene. More organic and softer scenes, like of ground and trees, or just dark scenes in general, it's barely noticeable. But anything that starkly contrasts ghosts really bad. I'm guessing the further away a pixel has to go (colorwise) between left/right eye transitions, the longer the response time, and at a certain point it's just too long and doesn't make it in time for the shutter switch. Usually I'm able to mentally tune it out but sometimes, like in Mass Effect 2 on the ship's bridge, which is full of contrasting distinct lines, it's so profound that I can feel my brain learning a new way to see in order to deal with it, it's like you're seeing everything 3 times.
I also have a Samsung DLP that has zero ghosting, but isn't nearly as comfortable for playing PC games, because text is slightly blurry on the sides and it has 50 or so pixels of overscan (mirror out of alignment and poorly focused?), cutting off interface elements. Also it was plagued with compatibility issues that kept me from really using 3D Vision for a month (Apparently this will soon be fixed)

The problems with this screen are no different than any other TN display, and the backlight bleed is usually from brightness being at a high and unrealistic level. You can lower the brightness to blacken the blacks without making the picture too dark, especially if you increase contrast. It's just the way TN displays are, so don't expect any miracles, TN didn't get re-invented here. It behaves exactly how a TN display should. Go to Best Buy or wherever you can see an array of monitors for sale. They're all TN's and they look pretty awesome. The Alienware looks even better. You can still get the blacks to look uniform with some tweaking.
Some people might be expecting a little too much out of 3D Vision, especially when you're trying to compare it to something like Avatar. There's a reason why those projectors cost tens of thousands of dollars, and why this system costs $200. NVidia makes note that certain settings should be applied in-game for most titles, like turning off full screen glow effects or some post processing. Some of the ghosting and 3D glitches (triple images, etc) are usually due to not reading Nvidia's recommendations for each game. Again, understand this is a $200 system, not a $20,000 IMAX projector.
I saw WoW played on this at a friend's who got it last week, as well as Left 4 Dead. Absolutely amazing, I'm getting this when I have the money. Yes, it's expensive. If $700 is a stretch, then spending money on a $700 entertainment item might not be the best allocation of funds. Maybe a vacation instead, or saving it for brakes and tires. But if you're getting a nice little return from the IRS and want to treat yourself, or can pay it off on a Dell account in a year, then it's a pretty nifty toy that looks awesome and amazing when you see it.

Is there any reason why you guys chose to go with the Alienware AW2310 over the Acer GD235HZ? The Alienware has a 3ms response time compared to the Acer's 2ms. The Acer is also $100 cheaper.
Did you guys go with the Alienware because it was released before the Acer? I just want to make sure I didn't overlook something quality-wise by going with the Acer :) I know Alienware has a good reputation for gaming hardware though.

The Alienware is made/supplied by Dell afaik. the Acer just came out, literally, so thats another reason more people have the alienware right now.
The Acer makes more sense for me, as its $100 cheaper, 1ms faster, and has no downsides as far as I can tell. I even like the orange highlights... waiting on mine to come from newegg on wednesday! :)

Thats 2ms goes upto 3ms whilst in 3d, as im aware of anyway.
And for no downsides...... i'd argue against that http://3dvision-blog.com/acer-aspire-gd245...monitor-review/

The Alienware was out first and that is a big part of why a lot of us went with it. Another reason for me is the warrantee and dead pixel policy from Dell. Dell, from my experience, just makes better quality panels than Acer. Also I grew frustrated when Acer would hint at a January release but would never say anything firm on it. Finally I got tired of waiting and pulled the trigger on the Dell.

Also the ghosting seemed to lessen even more as time went on. I have heard people say its your eyes adjusting I have heard people say it is the monitor warming up. Either way I was EXTREMELY pleased with what I got for my $700.00

But on another note, Please post your impressions of the Acer when you get it

Well, I meant no downsides vs the alienware, samsung, and viewsonic. :P
I'll do my best to let you know what I think of the Acer though.
