im using an 80" screen
does anyone here insist that a larger screen, like 120" to 140" horizontally is much better for viewing? even if you are sitting considerably farther away from the screen due to the larger size

I prefer a Bigger screen and sit close about 3'.. It is a curved screen and I would not change it for the world..
IT is a TripleScreen setup and next time I will try and get some short throw projectors for an even bigger image..
When I fall off a cliff in TESO I get a weird feeling like just before you fall it is so convincing
The tradeoff for screen size is resolution.
What you are really after is how much of your FOV the screen fills. If you sit closer, you get a bigger FOV and more immersion.
There is no difference between a larger screen if you sit further away.
With the possible exception that we can't change the resolution and are stuck with 720p. With a 120" screen at 10 feet away in 2D, I can just barely make out individual pixels, but it's not annoying because the screen door is so small on DLP. In 3D, I can't see any pixels until I sit about 6 feet away.
The actual measurement you are looking for is pixel-arc-seconds. Essentially how much of your visual field of view a pixel takes up.

I've got two screens at home a 120" and a 140" in different rooms.
The 120" get used the most & when settling down for a good gaming session I move the couch about 1-1.5 meters away from the screen.
I know, ridiculously close, but the effect of the screen taking up most of your vision is stunning... of course you've got to have a blacked out room for the effect to be perfect... & sitting that close allows me to move my head around quite considerably (for the head-tracking) while still keeping the full screen in view.
Combine the large screen taking up your entire vision with a blacked out room & the Carl Zeiss head tracker + the Butt Kicker (so you can feel the bullets and explosions) and I'm 99% sure it's the best gaming experience that you can have at the moment. ( till 1080P 3D projectors come out )
I've tried the latest Rift as it's not even close at the moment... but I'm sure it will get better over time...
