Dirt 2 update now supports 3D Vision uhhh...see above

Besides from Dirt 1 I didn't use this trick in other games.
Pure: If I turn off post processing in the game settings I've only got problems with the sky beeing at wrong depth. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix this (common) problem. I remenber that someone made a fix that solved this problem in Oblivion... As I like godray effects a lot and was quite dissappointed that they dissappear in Pure when You turn off the post effects I've made a fix that removes post effetcs like bloom, etc. but sustains the godrays.

I don't play racing games online as my skills are very bad and I usually play racing games just to admire the landscapes ;)

Just tried Dirt2 with the new driver CD 1.23 release and the Dirt2 patch for 3D vision and now the game is about 95% perfect in 3D. It looks absolutely amazing. All major problems have gone: dynamic shadows, water, (car)lights and dust are mostly rendered correctly now. The in-car mirrors work and the bumpit interior size now fits to the rest of the gaming world. No more floating hood inside the bumpit.

Only remaining flaws:
- Here and there dust still renders in mono
- The car drop shadows are shifted
- The menu convergence is totally messed up (when convergence is optimized for the bumpit/hood view). Have to turn 3D off temporary to not brake your eyes during menu phase.

I would give it 9/10 point.

And just realized that Dirt2 also supports the TrackIR headtracker in 6DOF...

Hm, the word c o c k p i t is always changed to bumpit after editing???
Usually I don't share the high hopes that often are connected with a game profile - or the complaints about missing profiles. I can adjust depth and convergence for myself and find out which shadows and post effects I have to turn off (in game or via .ini-files). In most of the cases the profiles don't seem to do anything more (and often less!) than that.
Quote of the infos about the last driver update:
Command and Conquer 3 - Tiberiam Wars – fixed vapor effect
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – fixed glow effect
Sacred 2: Fallen Angel – fixed water/smoke double rendering
SAS Secure Tomorrow – fixed double rendering in windows and 2D laser sight
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows – fixed rendering issue
The Witcher – fixed double rendering on sword effect

Obviously some post effects can be changed by driver updates and not only by game updates!
So in future I will join the "give us a game profile, nvidia!"-chorus ;)

Can You describe these visual problems(notfalls auch auf Deutsch ;) )? I couldn't discover any problems after changing this setting. In my case the only thing that changed was the removal of this uggly diffuse shadows. So it looks much better than the original settings (see my screenshots above).

Just drive the London stage at night (don't remember the event name). There are many lighting problems and some objects are rendered at the wrong place for one eye. With the original setting, this all is rendered correctly now (with the exception of the car drop shadows).

Finally I've managed to find a night race - not easy as there don't seem to be many night races (I' m just at level 9) ;)
I've played it with and without dynamic occlusion and took some screenshots.
In dayligth there are many "sharp" shadows so You won't miss the diffuse shadows and just enjoy that there aren't any more the very disturbing effects they cause.
In night scenes there are less "sharp" shadows so the absence of diffuse shadows are more obvious.
Compare screenshot 1a (dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false") with screenshot 1b (dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="true"):
In 1b You will notice a small dark area under the bumper of Your car that You will miss in 1a. And in 1b there are of course these uggly irritating shadow effects around the cars of the competitors.
That's the only difference I could find.
You mentioned "many lighting problems and some objects are rendered at the wrong place".
The only problem I could find were the lights of some floodlights that are rendered for one eye only and some lens flares that are rendered in 2D (like the particel effetcs that I ususally turn off).
But as these phenomena have nothing to do with dynamic ambient occlusion You will find these problems with both settings (compare 2a (..false) with 2b (...true)!). The same with particel effects (turned off in the screenshots). You will also see that the wheels obviously dont't cause dynamic shadows /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> But it's again the same with or without dynamic ambient occlusion.
So I couldn't find any lighting or rendering problems that are specific for the settings with dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false" and could be removed by turning dynamic ambient occlusion on.

To me it is more important to remove all these uggly irritating shadow effects in every setting than having a small difuse shadow under my bumper when I play one of the rare night racings.
But everybody has his own priorities ;)

BTW: The convergence settings provided with the profile in the new driver "solve" the problems with the menues popping out of the screen to much. But this also results in quite flat 3D effects when You play the racings using the outside perspective You can see on my screenshots. Personally I prefer turning off 3Dvision in the menues and manually focussing the convergence on the car to have a better 3D experience when I'm driving a race...

Same for me. I totally disliked the fact that I was not able to set the convergence in Avatar. Adjusting of 3D separation and convergence to personal preferences is essential to 3D gaming for me.

I will retest the dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false" setting, maybe some other settings have an influence here to (I had everything set to the max). If really only the wrong car drop shadows are removed, that would be great.

I also noticed that after switching from Dirt2 to the desktop and back, a lot of visual artifacts appear (like missaligned shadows).

Btw, my TrackIR headtracker arrived yesterday and DIRT2 in 3D in c o c k p i t view with headtracking is absolutely amazing. Beside rotating you can also move your (virtual) head up/down and foreward/backward to get a better view at the street, the instruments or mirrors.

The disturbing effects (caused by maximized particle effects or the diffuse shadows) are only disturbing when connected with cars of the competitors in front of You. And the greater the distance to these cars becomes the more noticeable the disturbing effects become. This also could be a reason why the impressions of the S3D quality of the game may vary a lot even with (almost) the same graphic settings...

TrackIR is a very interesting technology! If more games will be enhanced in the future it could become a must buy addition to 3DVision for me :)

you better not get a 480 GTX card and try to play dirt: I sold my 295 GTX yesterday which allowed GREAT dirt 2 gameplay.

the 480 renders the shadows all wrong in dirt2 and it has terrible ghosting ever since. I regret my purchase: DONT BUY IT.
200 series are great, I havent found a single game yet that looks better with a 400 series card.

Same problem with GTX470, but it's a DX11 problem. Just switch to DX9 and it will be OK

i was wondering why my sli 480's suck so bad in this game. so if i just run it in dx 9 the shadows around the cars will dissipate? on my 480 i cannot run any depth at all or else i get bad ghosting. i was a bit confused because i thought they had updated the game to be 3d vision compatible.

How can I switch to DX9, I tried forcing it in the config file but that didnt work: directx forcedx9="true"

any other suggestions? The ghosting is just bad bad bad and shadows are weird.

Double check- its worked for me. check this page:
http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/pc/2009/12/...t-look-dirt-2/2

the page talks about how to disable dx 11. If you get it right you should not see ambient occlusion as a graphics option. DX9 totally fixed this game in 3d for me- i can run the game in ultra high shadows now. no more ghosting. the dust clouds behind the cars is not rendered at the correct depth. i just turned them to low or off in the graphics menu.

Also i found you still have to do another fix. Change the phrase- dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="true" to dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false"

more details are here:
