We so nearly split - but somehow, against the odds - Ive fallen back in love with 3D Gaming
1 / 2
Facing facts, My relationship with 3D gaming has been on the rocks for quite a while, all the signs were their, and a messy brake up was most definitely on the cards.
We just didn't see eye to eye any more, I was fed up with the continued lack of support, In my darkest gaming hours, when support was needed most, nothing was forthcoming, I felt let down, even betrayed by the single thing that most changed my gaming life. Friends and Community tried to save our relationship, fixes were suggested, and many worked, managing to relight that fading spark between us, only for the rules to change, the fixes break. It seemed no matter how hard I worked at the relationship, 3D gaming was determined to deter me.
I found myself gaming alone, in plain 2D, everything just worked perfectly, 1st time, every time and as time passed, I felt more and more disconnected with that which was once my gaming love. I still kept a watchful eye on what has happening, monitoring how people still tried to prop it up, even though it seemed to care so little about itself.
Much of this is still true
But, I read on the forum, that Grid Autosport now had native 3d Vision support, all those long lost emotions began to stir once more. Suddenly I was helpless and before I knew it, I had spent my £20 (thankyou cdkeys.com) and purchased my 1st game in over year - solely for 3D.
I downloaded the latest driver, chuckled to myself, reliving old times as the install failed, a few seasoned clicks back and forth and the install continued along a familiar path.
During the large download, I tidied the computer room, moved the racing chair and Logitech G25 wheel setup into the centre of the room, and awaited the completion of the download.
WOW - THATS WHY I LOVED 3D GAMING SO MUCH, It looks stunning... within seconds I had completely fell back in love with 3D gaming, as I zoomed round corners, squeezed between other cars and marveled and the immersion and depth I was enjoying.
IM SORRY I EVER DOUBTED YOU, I love you for what you are, for what you bring to gaming.
From this day forward I will enjoy the titles that work, and just turn a blind eye to the ones that don't.
No more will I focus on what's broke, but focus on what works, what makes 3D so special.
Rather that writing, or taking photos and family videos, I'm mostly just going to enjoy playing games in 3D.

All the serious racing sims look great in 3D Vision. Of course, the hardcore sims are basically intended to be played with a wheel. So controller users would likely be frustrated by the controls.

It`s an honor that I brought you the Autosport message and also back to 3D Vision :-)
100% agree ... played 50 hours Autosport and can`t get enough of 3D Vision Surround.
After 20 years of 2D gaming I wanted to quit this hobbie ... felt to old and filled up with this stuff.
2 years ago 3D Vision crossed my way ... and I discovered a completely new hobbie.
After that I wrote a 3D Vision Review in a Western European computer forum called ComputerBase, just to share informations about this awesome way it´s meant to be played ... and found a lot of 3D Vision followers. Today this thread was clicked about 200.000 times and written about 2.800 postings around 3D Vision.

A lot of people changed their way of playing computergames.
I think we´re a "small" Community in Western Europe ... but we always keep an eye on this GeForce forum 3D Vision forum to read everything about 3D Vision and beyond.
Thx for keeping this way of playing alive,
greetings from Austria and sorry, english isn`t my mother tongue ;-)

:) Must Purchase "Grid Autosport" at the weekend and try out..
It was 3D Vision that 3ish years ago made me go out and buy various Projectors finally deciding on the P5390 a 140" inch screen, Logictech G27, Carl Ziess Headtracker & the Buttkicker.. & I and a few friends must have spent months on the Dirt Series and all the F1 games (great times).. & at the time I was also so blown away that for only a few £k you could have a driving sim at home that must have cost maybe £20,000+ only a few years before that..
Still waiting on Project Cars and a GOD DAMN 120hz 1080p Projector to be released to up the ball game a little... ( seriously, whats still the delay with this..???) ggrrrhhhh! :)

With years of experience behind me, Im also aware how quickly a automatic steam patch can ruin the game.
So 'Auto Updates' on steam are disabled and no nvidia driver upgrades for the foreseeable.
Happy 3D Gaming
I have giving up on 3d not long ago, but daamn Mr Solutiongaming, that was really nice written and I almost feel an urge to start playing in 3d again ;)
But now I have the awesome gaming monitor ROG SWIFT and do not have any emitter, as I have the VG278H but will sell that one to my brother.
If those glasses dident darkens the picture (downgrade the image one can say) then I most likely would never give on on 3d vision, that is if the world was a better place with all devs on board so we would get perfect 3d games from day one.
Maybe I will be back to 3d gaming if it was glasses free so I could enjoy all that clarity and perfect colours as the games have in 2d that is.
Other then that I will most likely go VR, cant wait for the Oculus Rift.

A 3D Vision Surround buddie of mine just tested OR Dev Kit2 and was disappointed about the resolution and the display/colours.
He said that OR wouldn`t/couldn`t replace his 3D Vision Surround SYS.
In a few days he sends me his OR Kit and I`ll have a look.
@ InSync: I've never understood people who are bothered by a 'darker' screen. Lightboost eliminates it. Before Lightboost, I simply upped the in-game brightness to compensate. How is this a problem that would make a person 'give up' on 3D?

Doh it would appear I can no longer set steam not to automatically update, instead the only options are;
[.]Always keep this game up to date[/.]
[.]Only update this game when I launch it[/.]
[.]High priority - Always auto update this before others[/.]
So im guessing, the safeguard I was looking for is no longer an option. Anyone know of a way round this?
Ive taken a RAR of my autosport folder, with the thinking if some patch breaks everything, I can slect steam Offline mode and extract the RAR???

I've been on Steam just shy of 10 years, and I don't think it was ever a practical option. Yes, you could disable auto-updates, but if an update was pushed out, you couldn't actually launch the game and play it until you updated it first. I'm sure there were exceptions if you were in offline mode, but that's been my experience in online mode.
EDIT: Or maybe that's what you meant. Launching it in offline mode.
