DHR - Thanks for the suggestion. I removed EDID and tested with 3DTV Play, using 720p 60 Hz. Unfortunately, no change, so EDID is NOT creating this problem (it has not been a problem with any game so far, including Dreamfall Chapters).
However, I did find what apparently was keeping your fix from working. EVGA PrecisionX16, the utility I use to control my 980 Ti's fan speed and overclocking, is the culprit. When I disable the utility, the shadows become 3D! Note that this utility works with almost all other games without issue.
It must be hooking/detouring the same thing as 3DMigoto to some extent making the CRC different probably;)
Easy way is to...set your clocks and then close it;) Or you can find the "altered CRC" shader and copy the content from the "original CRC" shader into it;) If is the same shader that is;)
But yeah, overlays have a bad habit of "fking" things up especially when dealing whit rendering.
ONLY overlay I found to be SMART and good about it is the Shadowplay/Share FPS counter. Haven't encounter one game/fix where that messes things up ^_^, So, I stick to that and off-screen monitoring for others (You can disabled on-screen monitoring and use file-logging in MSI afterburner to see how your cards behave;) )
For FPS use, Shadowplay monitor. For SLI usage use Nvidia offcial, SLI metter.
This is my best recommendation to date;)
(For the record, is not specific to HelixMod or 3DMigoto... I've seen it in SweetFX and other things that "hook" the renderer) :)

- Intel 760p 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
Creative Sound Blaster Z.
Windows 10 x64 Pro.

Great that works now!
Maybe you can try using the "hook=recommended" method and see if the game works with the fix and the EVGA Precision enabled. I suppose the OC is necessary to play in 4K.

Sorry, but I am not familiar with "hook=recommended" method. Do you have a pointer or reference link? Thanks for the suggestion. Note that helifax also suggested initializing EVGA Precision, then disabling it before running game (this would override GPU settings for OC'ing, but dynamic fan control override might not work).

On MSI Afterburner you can disable the overlay and still have MSI afterburner running and controlling the fans;) You can try this one to see if it works;)
Another thing you can try is to use RasterOption to draw the Overlay instead of the Vector Option.

Updated EVGA PrecisionX 16 to latest version, and it seems to work well with the fix now. Note that I never enable the OSD overlay, but the older version somehow appears to have interfered with the game 3D mod anyway.
Thanks for the great fix, DHR!
EVGA Precision
IF you set the on-screen server to "Enable compatibility with modified Direct3D runtime libraries." it will PROBABLY work
Seems like they keep adding content and more content to this game since 2016 when that post was made. Which is a good thing. Just not sure if anything broke the fix since, like it happens in most games after releasing new DLC. I hope everything still works fine.
