Star Wars: Old Republic not quite 3D ready
  2 / 2
I do not think SWTOR will be as successful as they hope. GW2 will have better PVP when it finally launches.

For SWTOR I forsee $20 expansion packs released every other month with mount speed upgrades that are only available via microtransactions for $10. Afterall it's EA that's managing it, nuff said.

Regardless I bought it, since all my friends did. Wasn't happy doing so after the way they abandoned Warhammer.

I'm mostly a casual mmo player. I don't play pvp, and endgame stuff is not very important to me. Basically, I play them as I would most any other RPG.

That said, I'm enjoying it. It has entertaining voice actors, interesting story focused quests, tons of lore available through the codex, fun engaging combat, it's definitely a bioware game. The voiced dialogue and interactions go a very long way in motivating you to care about the otherwise pretty standard mmo objectives. There's dedicated story paths for each class (good for those that like making alts)and the option to go light side or dark side regardless of what faction you pick. So for anyone at least looking for a good solid RPG, then give this a try if you're willing to pull yourself away from Skyrim /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I can't really speak for the longevity of the MMO, because I honestly don't really care about that, no offense intended, but it has me hooked like a good game only could, just like Skyrim [s]did not too long ago[/s] .... still has. Just wanted to drop in my opinion for the lolz

I think the haters in this thread are totally wrong, this game will go the distance. The only real problem I am having with the game, and a lot of others, is that no matter what setting you put the texture resolution at it won't use high quality ones. The textures are there, and if you take a photo with the holorecorder it uses the high quality textures, and you can tell the difference instantly.
[/quote]
The texture issue is only part of the problem, they'll certainly help once fixed but they won't address the low poly count, poor character/armor geometry or lack of normal/bump mapping for textures. Its just a terribly dated looking game even by MMO standards and the #1 complaint of both critics and users. The bigger question is why is this texture setting still a bug, did BioWare purposely disable High textures for performance reasons?

Some people will be able to overcome the graphical shortcomings whether its because of the engaging story/gameplay or because they simply don't know any better, but there's going to be a large population of gamers especially on the PC that expect more in terms of graphics. Nothing makes a game less immersive for me than bad graphics that are totally out of place and borderline comical in terms of quality, and TOR has a LOT of those moments. You know its bad when people are comparing the game's graphics to PC stalwarts like Wing Commander and TIE Fighter....

Yeah I think a lot of similar gamers will enjoy it for the reasons stated above, but again, the amount of time they will be satisfied with the game in its current condition is still finite. BioWare basically has 4-5 months to allow the casual gamers to level a few classes to 50, play all the different quests/storylines, but after that, people are going to start breaking out the torches and pitchforks demanding more. I got my fill of the game in just 2 beta weekends to know I wasn't going to be missing much in this game. I'm sure there's many others in the same boat.

One thing I did notice right away compared to other MMOs that may hurt SWTOR is that gear doesn't make much difference in PvE effectiveness and neither does the incremental increases in skills. Everything just seems to scale more with mob/quest difficulty relative to your level more than anything else. There's defininite benefits in PvP, to a fault, but the current PvP just isn't that fun really (think Warhammer scenarios, just much less fun).

I have got an asus g73 with gtx460M on it.
Today, a new patch has been installed on SWTOR. It gives me a better framerate (about 50/100 fps), but also lots of driver bugs interrupting the game for a few seconds, throwing me back to windows desk.

EDIT : when I set all graphics on low, everything works well. It seems that the problem occurs when the graphic card works at max, and specially when the fan strats on.

Sounds like you have a lower rated power supply than you need, or the PS you have is going bad.

or, if youre overclocking, your clocks could be too high or voltages too low. Actually, i had a card that did that at stock speeds/voltages and i had to either lower clocks or raise voltage to get it to stop. that card ended up dying so i RMAd it.

i suppose it could just be some sort of bug tho... i would run OCCT or other GPU stress tests and make sure you have stability in them first thing.

Well, I'm really enjoying the game, and I actually quite like it's cartoonish style. I'm a level 20 Sith Bounty Hunter, trying so hard to be evil, but my companion gives me nasty looks every time I do something mean. /ninja.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ninja:' />

I think it's quite a good fusion of WoW accessibility and Bioware storylines. The Grand Hunt bounty hunter story pretty cool.

The space combat could be a little better - think StarFox, but in a Star wars setting, and that's probably the best way to describe it. That said, it's still a laugh.

I think the 3D in this works really well. Even the things that don't work (lighting effects, planets in space) don't break it.

I'm going to be playing this for sometime, interspersed with Skyrim no doubt. As a huge Star Wars fan it's a bit of a no-brainer for me.

I couldn't agree with more. Having a blast playing and getting quite addicted to this game.
3d looks great even with some of the flaws it has.

Wow, still loving this game, and bizarely the 3D seems to get better the further into it you get. Maybe I'm just not noticing the issues so much? I've turned most nameplates off, and when one does pop up my mind just seems to ignore.

I have seen some truly spectacular stuff in 3D, particularly for a SW geek like me. I was doing a quest where you destroy shuttles in an open-air, hangar, looked up and saw a massive blockade runner in the air about me. It was HUGE, and the 3D really added to 'wooooah!' moment. Awesome!

Now level 25, but not enough creds for a mount yet. I'm stuck on Balmorra - the quest list is never ending!! /omg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omg:' />

F**k, truly f**k to developers and companies --> will have to wait at least several month to play it. I can't even DL the client form the SWKOtor website, it says: "Not available in your region" /devil.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
