I hope this is not the sign of something similar happened couple years ago: Nvidia's sudden and complete drop of support for S3D XP without any preamble.
That said, I understand a company must make money and they can change their business policy anytime they see fit, what I don't understand is this kind of behavior from such a large company: dropping support without any warning, customer liason disappear without an explanation. If you must go just say I got to go, bye, or sorry we have to drop XP support and working on a new solution etc. It's minimum courtesy in any relationship and circumstance. Had they communicate even minimally about XP support drop, there wouldn't be so much discontent and pissed off customers.
Anyway, I hope Andrew is alive and well and still employed for the sake of the 3D Vision buyers.
You are correct. Do they *owe* us some update vis a vis Andrew? Of course not. However.... from my perspective, this is bad business. I have been on the fence about getting back into S3D. Andrew's active involvement was going a long way to pushing me into going there again.
Nvidia is foolish if they think they can get this 3D initiative to gain traction without active support as it is NOT plug-n-play.
I am back on the fence and now leaning to the other side.....

As a S3D gamer I really want to have a lot more gamers adopting S3D solutions in general. However, in this case you are justified in taking that position. Nvidia should have a better communication channel with its S3D consumers and this forum seems to be the only one for a long time too bad it's without Nvidia support staff . Andrew's presence here was a great assurance that the product was supported, with him gone this become uncertain. Especially with Nvidia past record.

I bet you Nvidia is working on releasing something great. They have the list of all the problems. In the last 4 weeks since Andrew dissapeared, not much more issues have shown up. They have all the information they need to make a great new driver. You never know, they WILL blow us away with great new drivers.
3d Is the Future of Gaming. There is no question. Nvidia will make Good things happen. Just be patient... Just be patient...

Actually it is pretty much "plug and play". There's a little setup, but it's pretty easy and very well documented. Don't let Andrew not being here keep you from using it, it doesn't me. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I understand the honeymooners complex where Ooh and Aah grace the bedroom during the honeymoon period, but remember that the hurt and the screaming is not far behind when and if your beloved team Nvidia abandoned support for the product. All I do is to warn of a repeat of history. And the point of warning is being early. No?
I also understant those who are new to this S3D gaming are blessed with that gratefulness naivety, and thereby mistaken Nvidia for the fairy that brings you the happiness forever after, are readily and generously defending on its behalf.
Patience and Relax are the things that I do not lack. Otherwise I would not still be here in this forum after 5 years witnessing so much disapointments from S3D gamers when Nvidia silently but firmly dropped all support for its S3D driver. What I wrote is only for the consumers' - that's you - benefit, why are you against your own well being? Think about it.

NVIDIA has a lots on it's plate right now. We've got Ion and Tegra coming out VERY soon. We've got the 40nm product line coming out in Q3/Q4. GTX300 series very late this year. I think for being a month old, this product is one of the best.
I remember many years ago watching the forums in the newly released "SLI Zone" where everyone and their mothers were having BSOD, locksup, split screens, and worse.
Now compare that to the distant "waa" we hear of darker screens, a bit of flickering, or "double waa" you have some ghosting. People who invest in the newest of technology MUST expect some issues, or they should stick to buying last generation products that had people work out the kinks.
Seriously, to all of you first time posting, ATI fanboy, drive-by and post trash: This technology isn't for you... yet. Wait another year and then come back and give your opinions. You're never helpful in the way you guys are posting. You leave no information that might help figure out the problem, just rant and then say "nvidia sucks", never to return.
Let me say that 3D Vision, while not perfect is only a month out. It -is- amazing and it -is- the future of gaming and film. See this technology for YOURSELF because that's the only way to understand it.

Umm... If you didn't know, commercial LCD shutter glasses have existed from late -90's (eDimensional and such). So what Nvidia gave us a month back, isn't new technology.
On the other hand, the new 120hz monitors are new technology, and NVIDIA didn't create it. The old shutter glasses would work as good as NVIDIAs new glasses, if they weren't blocked by the drivers.
So, we can complain about their product. It doesn't give us anything new by means of technology, the ghosting is still there. They just realised that they can block other producers shutter glasses by putting some code into the drivers, and then sell their own glasses to make some good money.
I'm not any ATI fanboy or a troll, This issue just annoys me.

The technology has not been here until a little more than a year ago, when Samsung Released it's first 3d Ready T.V. You being a S3D enthusiast would know that until then, there was no DLP T.V. or LCD T.V. that could utilize a TRUE 120 HZ signal. 120 HZ T.V.'s on the market are mainly simulated. The bandwidth only supports 60 HZ per second. It interlaces and makes a 120 HZ signal. This is very similar to using a DVD player with a HDMI cable that upscales to 1080P. It forces in lines to fill in to simulate 1080P.
These glasses run at full 120 HZ. Nvidia's glasses run at full 60 FPS in Each eye. This is full 120 FPS, that each eye sees. In every second, each eye closes and opens 60 times per second, giving the 3d effect
This is the future of gaming. I have seen online that by 4th quarter of this year there will be 3d Blue Ray Players. With all the community and the world drooling over 3d Vision and 3d Gaming do you possibly think they will drop this technology and let ATI run wild with it??? I THINK NOT!!!.

As I cleary said in my previous post, the pure 120hz LCD technology is new, Yes I know that, but the NVIDIA glasses ARE NOT.
And I'm complaining about the NVIDA glasses.
Any older LCD shutter glasses would work with the new 120hz LCD/DLP technology, only if NVIDIA wouldn't have blocked them by their S-3D drivers.
The older glasses can produce the same 120hz flickering rate as Geforce 3D Vision glasses, so NVIDIA isn't showing anything new here.

I agree.. how hard can it be for someone at Nvidia to let us know if they have made a decision not to participate on this forum or whether they are truely too busy to interact with their early adopter users or what other reason may exist for the silence.

I don't know how long you have been participation at this forum. Andrew at Nvidia posted regularly after the release of 3d vision and worked close with everyone here. If they didn't want to participate, then Andrew shouldn't have posted at all. I think it's pretty cool how Andrew did work with all of is, even if he won't any more.

You guys are amazing! You describe Andrew as though he is Moses. Similar to the way Moses split the sea, it's as though Andrew has the magical power of splitting games into left and right eyed views!
I just have this vision of Andrew coming down from Mount NVIDIA, with a GPU in one hand, and a pair of shutter glasses in the other, throwing them down at the bunch of you yelling "You foolish monoscopists! Enough with your false idol worship! Have you forgotten how to game in 3D in my absence?!?" :magic:
Any of you guys going to GDC? NVIDIA is having a special presentation there for game developers.

I have been on the fence about getting back into S3D. Andrew's active involvement was going a long way to pushing me into going there again.
Nvidia is foolish if they think they can get this 3D initiative to gain traction without active support as it is NOT plug-n-play.

Actually it is pretty much "plug and play". There's a little setup, but it's pretty easy and very well documented. Don't let Andrew not being here keep you from using it, it doesn't me.

Not employed by NVIDIA, nor do my views represent NVIDIA's in any way.

Chopper
