Portal 2 and 3D Vision Official Status from NVIDIA
1 / 3
Hi All
The highly-anticipated game Portal 2 launched earlier this week, treating us to a brand new mind-bending adventure. If you’re planning to play the game using NVIDIA’s 3D Vision technology, you’re in for a treat.
Overall, it looks fantastic in 3D. Portal 2 provides a unique and immersive experience with 3D Vision with the latest Release 270.61 WHQL drivers (more info here on 270.61 if you need it http://blogs.nvidia.com/2011/04/release-270-whql-certified-drivers-are-available-for-download/).
However, I wanted to give you a heads up that there are a couple of minor 3D Vision driver issues that we are aware of and are actively fixing:

Minor artifacts on water throughout the game.

At the beginning of Chapter 8 (The Itch), the main NPC uses Video screens to watch and talk with you. In one eye the image is incorrect; half of the NPC is solid black like a bad shadow or texture.

Using NVIDIA SLI with all in-game quality settings set to max, there is some image corruption. For example, objects will only render in one eye, polygons may appear stretched and shadows may be bad. You can work around this by configuring the antialiasing to any setting below 16x and setting anisotropic below 16x.
The good news is that our driver team is already working on fixes, which are expected to be available with a new driver update. I don't have a release date for the drivers yet.

I'm using the 260.99 drivers and the game works mostly fine in 3D. Water looks right, video screens look right, convergence and depth are not locked...the only problem is the ghosting. Everything that is white casts a bit of a double image(thought bright lights seem fine...weird). I found the only way to minimise the ghosting was to bring the depth down to around 35% and crank the convergence, which to my suprise still had a lot of depth. The hud stuff was all rendered at the correct depth.
One error I came across is once I start the game I get the red error message until change some game graphics settings. I have to turn AA off, apply, then turn the AA back on again.
Shame I beat the game already or I would try the newer drivers, though fixed convergence is crap (or game-controlled convergence or whatever it is)
(hoping this post may be helpful to someone out there)

I'm using the 270.61 drivers and my convergence is absolutely not locked down.

I was hoping to do a review of this game with Nvidias 3D Vision drivers, I guess I'll have to wait till an update comes out. It's been awhile since I made a 3D Video review and was really looking forward to creating this one.
Andrew, is it at all possible to give a time frame as to when some of the issues will be addressed?

Last time I checked convergence was not locked down for me either. Using 266.58 drivers. I used the hold green button and use scroller (adjusts depth if you don't hold the green button) behind the IR-emitter to adjust convergence tho. Anyway the default one seemed fine.
One thing you didn't mention by the way, the broken glass seems to render at screen depth while water seems ok with 266.58. Can anyone confirm?

Hi
Will this fix also fix the issues with the water in Left 4 Dead 2?

Convergence isn't locked with the latest drivers. After updating your drivers go back into your stereoscopic setup screen under Nvidias driver menu select "set keyboard short cuts "and click the "Show advanced in game settings" pull down tab, then check the box "Enable advanced in-game settings" .This always defaults to off after you update your drivers.

If you wanted to see what the game looks like without any tweaking what so ever (with some serious air time), then check out the video I madehere. Streams in 3D in your browser, 3Dvisionlive style..
No need for demo... P2 is mind blowing! One of the best examples of 3d ever! Only problem I've had is water, but most of the time there is no water. I've had no shadow problems, or polygon problems, and running it maxed out 16xaa. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

One other comment - Portal 2 controls the convergence for 3D Vision so the 3D Vision hotkeys do not work.

Hey, hey, hey, hey-now. Don't be mean; we don't have to be mean, cuz, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.
