Andrew, any info on Microsoft Flight and 3D Vision support?
Hi Andrew

I was wondering if you got a pre-beta version of Microsoft Flight for testing. A recent version of nVidia Inspector had a profile for Flight, so I hope you guys also got a chance to try it in 3D :) How does it look in 3D so far? FSX is excellent in 3D, but the runway lights at screen depth makes it impossible to land at nights :( The final version might look better or worse, but I was wondering based on test version how good it might look in 3D for now. If you could shed some light on current state of compatibility and issues would be highly appreciated (especially compared to FSX). I hope it can eventually get a rating of "Excellent" like FSX, or at least "Good". Waiting anxiouslyyyy

Hi,
I gave a (short) try and to me the 3D looks very good!
The only obvious problems:
- I had more than once the problem that 3D would just not start (with the assigned key combination). Eventually it worked anyway
- I have sometimes a disturbing "flattering" on the screen borders (left and/or right)
But otherwise it looks very good... and yes! the lights are now at the correct depth!

(the simulation itself looks more like working on progress... many "advanced" features are just not there. Basically you can just do VFRs; and no ATC.
But who knows.. maybe Microsoft is going to implement them in a not too far future. At the moment the graphic performances look very promising).

The game is pretty cool and a complete departure from the old Flight Simulator Game style. I don't think they are making this a Flight "Sim", this is more for the masses to just fly and have fun with it instead of the tech side. This one you can fly with up to 15 or 16 other people/friends online. The basic game and a couple of planes is free, then you pay for all the addons. If you have a headset with mic you can chat with other fliers in formation, etc. Pretty darn cool. The 3D is good/excellent, they fixed some of the issues during the beta testing.

2D Surround works pretty darn well.

>>>3D surround has way too many artifacts and buildings etc. on the wrong place. Looks like we need an sli profile for this Andrew?

This is going to be a cool game given the multiplayer option and just fun part.

The main problem with the 3D at the moment is that HUD markers which indicate destinations/targets/objectives/other players etc are drawn at screen depth rather than at the same depth as the object they're marking. This is very distracting when eg you're trying to land at a marked runway as the HUD marker obscures your view. The other problem is that convergence settings which look good in the virtual cockpit don't work well when in chase plane view and vice versa. It would be great if we could set independant covergence and depth settings ingame for each view. Other than those issues, the 3D is a significant improvement on FSX as light halos, the sun and the horizon haze are all rendered correctly now (whereas in FSX they were all drawn at screen depth).
Cheers,
DD

It's suprisingly good - for a freebe! Can you use the plane's GPS for the nav stuff? That way there is no need for the HUD and you can turn it off via the menu. This is nearly 3D Ready - easily excellent.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Maybe the experienced users of Helix's shader tools can solve the issue with the 2D HUD? There are several solutions for other games, e.g. Skydrift. At least the latest version of Helix's dll allows You to assign different presest for depth and convergence to hotkeys. This can be a great help if You switch between different views.

I will be working on the HUD tonight...I plan on sending it back a bit.
