if you like this type of game i guess it's worth the cash. I just hate the fact that you cna't move and shoot or relaod at the same time. IN a real world situation you wuld be able to at the lost of accuracy and reload time. But what do i know. Very disappointed with this game for that.

Wait since when is RE5 not optimized well? Capcom has made a lot of improvements with their MT Framework and any GPU past the entry-level market will run it fine. Hell my old 8800GT runs it maxed and still gets a solid 40+ (not in 3D mode, obviously, but every game takes that 2x performance hit in 3D, nothing to do with optimization). It may not be some kind of optimization miracle like Unreal Engine 3 was when that came out, but I wouldn't call it unoptimized at all. It runs almost as well as DMC4, and looks a heck of a lot better. It's definitely not the nightmare that Lost Planet was. Yeesh. After that game, Capcom seemed to wake up and started optimizing their PC ports correctly, starting with DMC4.
Anyways I agree with the rest, the 3D is amazing, though no popout effects. Overall for 3D I'd rate this an 8 since no game will get above that as long as they use LCD glasses with its ghosting tendencies. No 3D game will get above an 8 from me until a 3D tech is introduced that has zero ghosting. As in, perfect, just like as if you played in 2D, but with all the benefits of 3D.

I deem a game optimized for my liking when I'm pushing between 50 and 60fps per eye in S3D without out any slow downs. I have a few games thatr give me about 59 to 60fps per eye with slow downs to about 50fps per eye. that's not happening for me with Resident Evil 5

In my opinion Devil Mey Cry 4 had much better optimisation than Resident Evil 5.
I have run a few benchmarks of Resident Evil 5 in 800x600 and 1680x1050. During cinematics the framerate skyrockets like in Devil may Cry but during gameplay phases it looks like i reach the CPU limit @35fps (both 2D and 3D) (Core2duo e4300@2.4Ghz, 8800GTX).
In comparison, on the same computer DMC4 runs at a rock solid 60fps in 3D mode throughout the game. (alright i lied, the forest stage is heavyer and drops down to 45fps, but the rest of the game runs at 60fps)
Concerning graphics and 3D, i reckognize that Resident evil has much more detail and much much better shadows, the problem is that the game never really allows you to enjoy it. This is worth for both gameplay and cinematics (RE5 cinematics are ridiculously bad compared to DMC4). So in the end i find Devil May Cry 4 a much better 3D eye candy than Resident Evil 5.

On sale at the Steam holiday sale for the next hour or so for $25, I guess I'm skipping as I just got DMC4 and haven't even loaded it yet, I'll wait for a cheaper price. Want to support Capcom though.

1. Is it great eye candy?
2. Is it more in or pop-out effect?
3. Is it optimized well?
4. what would you give the 3D effect out of 10, i.e. 1 is bad and 10 is the best you have ever seen?
I know there is the benchmark tool but that does not give you the big picture.
I am thinking about buying it, is it worth it?
cheers
