This is a hard game to recommend... It's only 1.5 hours long. It's not really a game... It's dark moody and very ambiguous.... It is incredibly slow... Nothing really happens...No crowbar.... no head-crabs, dammit! And yet it moved me more then any other game in years, in quite a poignant way. If you're feeling a little experimental, please try this game. Its simply lush in 3D and if you let it absorb you it may just move you too!
oculus rift will support it, so I'm not touching it until then.
Really? That is amazing, will be worth the wait. Have you got one of the dev kids ordered? You're going to have to necro this thread at some point and let us know your OR experience with Dear Esther!

Not sure that the viereio works with dear esther. I know it supports "the newer" source engine. If it does though shadows are still busted. Im waiting to replay skyrim and its expansion till then but its level compatibility is down so Im not 100% sure I will play it on rift instead yet.

I also found the game was very moving, it made me give my wife a big hug afterwards and let her know I love her! I'm a big lover of hi-octane games but this was a reminder that they can be so much more. I'm pretty sure that game will encourage sober driving more than any paid govt. advertisement. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it :-)

I loved this 'game', for the reasons posted previously. I also had issues with the water and both 3d Vision using shutter glasses, and then using a HMD. Funnily enough, I've updated the drivers to the latest version, and I no longer have water issues even if I go underwater. Graeme

I already played (in 2D, before I made the changeover), but this is an excellent game.

I go back to this game now and then, and I've found the more you play it the more little "details" you'll find. Probably shouldn't discuss these too thoroughly, but I'll give one away that I didn't notice till one of my more recent playthroughs. I don't think this one's randomized.. when you're in the caves and you get to the very long, expansive cave with the stream running through it (You exit by going up a nearly spiral like incline.. it's a little over half-way into the chapter), look to your right and wait a brief moment.. you'll see something in the water floating by. Plenty more other "things" to find in this game.

My only issue with the game was there's nothing to do but walk around and soak up the atmosphere, which is far better in 3D, at first it looks promising ... ohh a flashlight ... and then that's it ... walk ... walk ... walk ... walk ... walk ... walk ... as far as a game goes there's nothing there, no little puzzles, no hunting for anything, no bringing this here or that there ... just walk ... walk ... walk. But as far as art goes, it's like being inside of a painting. It's pretty impressive at times, especially if you like walking around in the moonlight and exploring ... honestly sometimes I think the story itself ruins the atmosphere, wonder if you can turn off the speech, I know you could with the subtitles.

I bought it when it first came out after everyone in certain forums were going on about how good it was. So I jumped in that night knowing nothing about the game... With all the erie atmosphere and sounds at times I kept wondering if something eventually happens. By the time I was on the final beach I had concluded that if this game ends with something jumping out and ripping my face off, I was probably going to die of a heart attack.

See now that would make me play it over and over again, they could make it like Eternal Darkness ... where every time you play it something else randomly gets you! Tentacles in the cave! Something chasing you in the fields!
