Like many of you I intend to use 3D vision at 1920x1080 res. Like some of you, I still haven't got my Acer GD245HQ :)
But those of you who were luckier, could you please share your thoughts on the expected performance drop when switching to 3D?
I have a Dell XPS 420 running W7 ultimated 64bit with an Intel X38 Beachwood motherboard/chipset, Q9650 Processor (3 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 12 MB cache), 8 GB RAM @ 800 MHz and Gainward GTX 285 2048MB video card.
Although my recently acquired GTX 285 performs better than my former 8800 GTX (768 MB), I wouldn't exactly call it "stratospheric performance". You're talking about 17 fps vs 12 fps in benchmark tests (3D mark vantage extreme test, 1920x1200). That is why I am a little worried about the performance when it comes to 3D vision.
I'm considering purchasing GF100 whenever it becomes available, but I wonder if it's not a waste of money and performance.
This does pose a good question: What are the average frames people are getting?
I'll start a post for this.
As far as I am concerned the minimum should be 24 fps (just because that's the lowest standard for professional movies). That is, of course, valid in a 2D world. In 3D I asume it would be 48 fps, so that each eye gets again the minimum of 24 fps, right?
The question is, does 48 "3D frames" require the same GPU/CPU power as 48 "normal" frames? If that's the case I foresee some trouble, inspite of your kind reassurance :)
Of course, I'd love to be wrong about this.

you aren't going to get more than 60FPS per eye anyway. I normally average between 40 to 60FPS per eye

40? so you're using a couple of monsters connected in SLI? :D
what games do you play anyway and at what resolution?
The most demanding I would play is be Witcher, but that's already "old news". Who know what they'll throw at us in 2010?

I get a constant 60fps for each eye on games like modern warfare 2, world at war assassins creed, and i have 2x BFG OCX gtx 260 sli , XFX 790i ultra, 4gig corsair Dominator and a E8500 dual core @ 4ghz, but games like Batman and avatar the performance drops to about 40fps per eye , but batamn runs better for me when i disable SLI and use the second card as a dedicated physX card
