New to 3D vision need help
Hello, I am a long time nVidia GPU buyer, new to the world of 3D vision. I decided to give 3D vision a go and picked up a pair of the nVidia USB wired glasses. I also am in the process of getting a 120hz flat pannel.

The glasses arrived yesterday and I know you cant really use them unless you have the monitor too, but I was playing around with them thinking I could atleast get them to install and maybe do some preliminary settings. I am trying to use these with an Asus G51VX-RX05 laptop. It has a GeForce GTX260M GPU and Core 2 Duo P7350 proc, 4gb DDR2 800 mem. According to nVidia's website, it meets the hardware requirements aside from the screen and glasses. So I figured all I would need is the usb glasses kit and a screen and should be good to go.

Well long story short, I can't get the "Stereoscopic" option to show up in the nVidia control pannel. I have the options to enable and disable 3D in start menu, but thats it. Now I read that there have been some issues getting the stereoscopic option to show up on notebooks, even ones that have all the 3D stuff built in. But my question is do you HAVE to have a 120hz monitor connected AS WELL AS the glasses kit for the option to even show up? Or am I expiriencing a bug? Thanks for your help.

Version 285.62, tried both clean install and reg install, Also running Win 7 Pro x64 SP1 if that helps.

On the desktop I used to have, I remember the older driver versions still showed the stereoscopic option even though I had not glasses or 120hz monitor hooked up to it. So I am not sure if its something new with the drivers where you have to have ALL hardware for that to even show up, or if its a bug.

First of all, WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF 3D with n3Dv!!! Excited, right? Let's get started!

Did you install all drivers properly? To enable 3D Vision, you need a 120Hz screen.

All the best!

If you have any question, feel free to ask.

Thanks, as far as I can tell the drivers installed correctly. I know I need the 120hz monitor in order to enable 3d, but shouldnt the stereoscopic option still be in the nvidia control pannel regardless? Or is it NOT showing because I dont have the 120hz display yet?

Please check whether Stereo Service is started.

I think that service isn't started for your case since you don't see the Stereoscopic 3D option in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Enable it & you should see the option again.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into that service when I get home today. Lastnight, I was trying several different driver versions and none of them seemed to make a difference.

Whats weird is that option displays on my wife's desktop which is an AMD Athalon X2 Regor 240, GeForce GTS250, ASRock GeForce 8100 mobo, 4gb DDR2 800, Win 7 Pro x64 w/ SP1, Same driver version as my laptop, just the desktop drivers rather than the notebook ones. Her desktop does NOT have the glasses OR a 120hz screen attached (although if I get this 3d working on my laptop I might have to change that for her LOL)

Thanks again for your help, I will check after I get some time to play with it.

Ok so I think I have tried just about everything. From BIOS updates to full system reloads, tried both Win Vista x64 and Win 7 x64. I have tried registry edits, various driver versions even a 3rd party driver. Nothing I do is working. The stereo service IS enabled and running. I really don't know what is causing the problem or how to fix it. As I said, it shows on my wife's desktop but not at all on my laptop regardless of what I do to it.

Update: Ok so after many hours spent wanting to pull my hair out, I finally managed to make something work. Basically I have to resort to using a much older driver 190.38 with a modified .ini as well as matching 3dvision beta drivers. But I finally have stereoscopic working. I really don't think this is a hardware problem. It seems most of the newer drivers (266 and up) cause this problem. I hope nVidia is trying to sort it out. Thanks for all your help, soon as the screen arrives I will update on how well its all working!

Sorry, I wasn't online for yesterday.

Ok, you're getting something. Keep it up, all the best!
