Asus PG278QR - Pixel inversion/horizontal scanlines fixed?
The newer model of Asus ROG Swift PG278QR is available. It's the upgraded model of PG278Q, and it has 165hz refresh etc. The previous model had pixel inversion and horizontal lines issue when 3D was active. Can any owner of the current new model PG278QR confirm if the pixel inversion issue has been fixed or is it still visible to some degree?
I have the PG278Q (previous model) and when I bought it I had to replace it 3 times until I got the unit that had the least noticeable pixel inversion issue. I did a lot of research before buying and knew I can expect trouble. Contrary to some forums where people claim they have no inversion problem or it's fixed in later manufactured models, the issue is still there regardless. Some people may not notice it, but It's always there. Some units more some less, coz I bought mine in early 2016. I barely notice it but it's there.

I haven't been paying attention to monitors lately, so it came as a surprise to me that a revision is available. Thanks for bringing it up. No TFTCentral review, unfortunately, as other sites don't do monitor reviews worth a damn. In any case, the inversion issue on the original panel is far less noticeable with some tweaking of lightboost and contrast settings, which I presume you've done so given your research and all, but I would like to know if there have been any improvements with the new model as well.

Are you sure this just wasn't an issue with the initial run of these monitors? I have three brought late last year and I don't experience these issues at all. There only appears to be some annoyance if the monitors are cold.

I got the new Asus PG278QR model, I had the PG278Q and also tried Dell S2716DG. Here's my review.
Asus has definitely got it right this time. 3D scanlines are 90% fixed. Though it's not completely eliminated. It took me quite a bit of effort to find it and notice it. You have to be in right scene, contrast and lighting to be able to find it. Most of 3D users might never even know it unless they search for it like me lol. When you open the box you immediately notice quality control difference, especially cosmetic difference. Previous model almost always had scratches, fingerprints and smudges on screen (I had returned 3 of them before). New one is clean and crisp. Black levels are also better. 3D is nearly flawless. Ghosting almost doesn't exist, only rarely in extreme contrast scenes.
I would suggest always look for retailers that have a no question return policy, currenly BestBuy has it. Don't buy Dell S2716DG for sure coz that monitor has the worst ghosting of any I've tried so far (Asus VG278HE, Samsung 2233RZ, Asus PG278QR etc)

Good to hear. Price is lower, too, now. PG278Q retailed at $800 or so when it was first released. Progress is being made. By this time next year some of us may even be using the PG27UQ, hopefully in 3D as well.

Does it look perfect with default contrast, then? With the S2716DG, I have to use 57, while the normal setting is 75. At 75, there is an ugly grain effect in bright colors and massive crosstalk with them.
I'm getting jealous :p. Better AG coating (I have the S2716DG A01 revision), possible better contrast, no pixel inversion, better crosstalk...
Can you enable G-Sync + ULMB like me and other people did here?: http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2883&start=150
Check the last pages for the easy method (custom resolution with +5 Vertical Total value). If it works, that's another reason to buy it.

I have my PG278QR in FPS preset mode with default brightness and contrast. Very good colors and great image overall. Ghosting almost not existant.
Dont't see scanlines or other annoying issues, everything almost perfect. No dead pixels, no backlight bleeding. All 3D games look phantastic.

Hi Rhialto. I checked the forum and read the issues the guy was experiencing like banding and vertical lines. Fortunately I'm not experiencing any of them. I tested Left4Dead as it has dark scenes and high contrast to check for ghosting and other issues but gladly I had none.

masterotaku :) when I first got my PG278QR I tested 3D using default settings, and it was almost perfect. I've lowered brightness in 2D mode coz default was so bright. Other than that I haven't changed any settings yet. 3D has close to zero ghosting. The only game where I've seen small ghosting is Left4Dead (total dark background against very bright foreground). Its a great game for testing ghosting.
I tried Dell S2716DG but ghosting was the biggest issue, even worse than pixel inversion. I played around with contrast settings but in the end I returned it. Ghosting as too distracting. BestBuy has open box return policy so I had bought PG278Q with it. I compared them and returned Dell :)
I haven't tested G-sync + ULMB yet, but I didn't know the easy steps. Thanks for sharing. I'll check it and report back.

D-Man11 I just loaded and tested the image "Brothers - A tale of two sons". I don't see much wrong with the image other than small ghosting around the letters. I would say this image could be the best example to test ghosting coz normally I have close to no ghosting. So far I have tested using Tomb Raider, Left4Dead, Skyrim, and Monstrum.

Dugom has some great testing images.

On my DG2716DG, the ghosting and inversion was horrible on that Brothers title screenshot, until I adjusted my brightness, contrast and Nvidia color profile.
After adjusting my monitor properly, ghosting was very minimal. But the image is a bit dim, due to the technology that the S2716DG uses for flicker free.
