have searched the forum and have found only a little information, nothing that has helped me. I have recently installed a 6800GT/256M AGP card into my system, and installed the 82.12 forceware and stereo drivers at that time. I am using shutter glasses.
Test images, test applications all work fine. Older games like Quake 3, and NFS:U work great. However, newer games like Doom 3, Quake 4, do not. They slow down to an unacceptable framerate (1 to 2 fps). I have read quite a few posts here about others with similar problems and there doesn't seem to be any agreement on the cause or fix. For some people these games work, and for others, they don't.
Surprisingly, I see exactly the same issues with all the nvidia demos that I have tried: Dawn, Dusk, and Nalu. They all run silky smooth without 3D stereo, but drop to around 1 fps when stereo is engaged. I have not seen any posts discussing this problem. Obviously, I am not actively seeking a fix for the demos; I mention them because they seem to be another symptom of the larger problem.
Should I downgrade to previous drivers? If so, which ones seem to work for people who can't get the newer ones to work with these games?
FWIW i'm still on the 77.77 drivers with my 6800GT AGP, and Doom3 runs quite nicely for me.
I'd say, that if in doubt always use same version of the stereo & video drivers, particularly since your card doesnt need the latest drivers to run.

Thanks.
I will go ahead and try 77.77, and I will report the results here.
About the anti-aliasing, I have read a little more here about that and it appears to be a consistent problem (unlike doom3). I wonder why they bothered to put an always-disable checkbox there if anti-aliasing is simply always disabled anyway?
Antialiasing doesn't get disabled in stereo - at least not with the more modern driver versions.
Good to know. So I am seeing even more problems that other people are not.
What I will try is a good driver-cleaning utility (anyone recommend a good one?) to get rid of all traces of both nvidia and the old ATI drivers. Then I'll install fresh drivers and see what happens.

I´m still using 77.77 with my Nvidia 6800. All other stereo drivers doesn´t work with Doom 3, and are slow with other games. Forget to play QUake4 in stereo, it is really slow with our 6800 card.

OK, so that's two of you using 77.77 without issues in Doom 3.
No such luck for me using 77.77... it seems OK in a small room (60 fps or so), but walk out into an open space, and it drops to 1 or 2 fps. Before I give up, are there any specific settings that I should be using?
Also, my anti-aliasing issue remains just as with 82.12. No AA in any 3D app unless stereo is set to "disabled". Even if it is set to enabled by hotkey, and turned off, still no AA.

More info:
In 3D stereo, Doom 3 performance has two distinct performance levels: Fast and slow. In small rooms, it is wicked fast, maxing out at 60 fps, just as if stereo was off. But it drops to a max of about 15 fps and a minimum of about 1 fps in large rooms and/or with characters on the screen. The dramatic drop from fast to slow has a very sharp threshold; panning slowly from a simple (small) area to a larger (open) area, you will see the drop within a pixel or two of rotation. That seems strange. Maybe there is some memory issue here, like the card is swapping out data over AGP to system memory, but only for complex scenes? (FYI my 6800 GT has 256 MB and I use High Quality. I am not overclocking.)
Dawn does not work well at all in 3D stereo. There is major artifacting (flickering black polygons) in various parts of her, especially face/neck, and the framerate is maybe 3 or 4 fps. Dawn also has no anti-aliasing even when 3D stereo is disabled (by hotkey). Turning off 3D stereo completely restores anti-aliasing. I didn't try Dusk recently. It had previously had the exact same problems as Dawn.
Nalu works great with 3D stereo and anti-aliasing. No apparent slowdown in stereo. Something went right with Nalu.
Anti-aliasing does work in 3D stereo within Lego Star Wars, but not for Quake III (77.77 drivers). The obvious difference between the games is that LSW is DX9, and Q3 is OpenGL. LSW is one of my favourite games in 3D stereo, BTW. The well-defined geometric shapes make the 3D effect very noticable but also natural.

I play BF2, and you can see a huge difference in stereo when AA is on and off.
I use 2Q in NVIDIA AA settings.
