Enabling 120hz output to use DLP, without 3D Vision emitter
  1 / 2
I have a DLP-link ready projector that will only take 720p/120Hz frame-sequential input. (Optoma GT720) I also have DLP-link ready glasses, (Xpand X102).

I currently own a GTX480, without a 3D Vision kit.

Will 3DTV Play allow me to output a 720p/120Hz frame sequential output from my GTX480 for games without needing the 3D Vision emitter plugged in??? (So that I can depend on the projector's DLP link technology?)

3DTV play won't work with your projector at all... Its just for HDMi 1.4 TVs.

Basically, as is, the GTX480 is capable of outputting a 720p/120Hz frame sequential output over DVI-D/HDMI without the need for 3DTV play, which means it is already capable of being compatible with my projector.

The problem is that the stupid card will NOT provide a 120Hz output without the IR emitter plugged in. Now, with 3DTV play installed, the card WILL output a 120Hz signal without the IR emitter plugged in. My question is: will the GTX480 output a frame sequential 3D signal, rather than other 3D signals like side-by-side or top-bottom, with 3DTV play installed?

OK... so I have a similar question... but it's not regarding 3DTV. I have an acer h5360 projector. I have 8 pairs of DLP Link glasses. I want to be able to play games in 3d using the 3d vision glasses, but I don't want to use the emitter. I HAVE the emitter... but I also have another computer that I want to use it with that has an appropriate asus 3d LCD monitor. While I can use both the DLP and the IR Nvidia glasses, I have no want to. Not when the DLP don't require the emitter. Emitter is a pain when you have a projector setup. I just want to know... how can I use Nvidia's 3d software without need the emitter plugged in? Is there a way?

Far as I know the 3D Vision dongle acts as a hardware key. Like the old school kind you use to get when you purchased high end graphics software. 3DV won't work without it, it has to be plugged in.

So in answer to your question, it won't work without the dongle.

Or you can read this helpful marketing material instead.

I own a Optoma HD66 3D Ready DLP projector and now a Sharp XV-Z17000 HDMI 1.4 3D DLP Projector.

I would never use DLP-Link glasses because of the LARGE drop in picture quality caused by the Flash of light between frames that sync the glasses. The Picture gets very washed out. I do own 2 Pairs of DLP-Link glasses and can see a large drop in picture quality.

The Nvidia Glasses look fantastic on the HD66 and the Sharp DLP HDMI 1.4 3D Ready uses IR glasses. Obviously Sharp has dropped the DLP-Link glasses in favour of the IR glasses because of the picture quality problems with DLP-Link.

Some Optoma projectors seem to have a specific problem with DLPlink, Optoma GT720 users have also reported this, it is probably a timing bug in their firmware? My Acer projector works great with $50 DLPlink glasses, the DLPlink flash is blocked properly and the image does not look washed out at all.

Charles, the problem is the glasses. If your DLP-Link glasses don't properly block the white flash, you'll get a washed out picture. For DLP-Link glasses, I use both the Viewsonic PGD-150's and Xpand X102's, and they both work great. I've read the RealD CE5's also block the white flash also.

It's the glasses, not the syncing technology.

No. 3DTV Play only does one 3D mode, Frame Packing. To get frame sequential, you'll need to get an nvidia emitter like the one that comes with 3D Vision, then you'll need to use seperate glasses that are compatible with the projector's emitter (or DLP-link trigger).

No, not 3D Vision. As soon as the emitter is unplugged, the display instantly goes to 2D. I'm not that familiar with 3DTV Play, perhaps you could use that, but 3D Vision is impossible.
