Risen 2 : Dark Waters screens are up. Looks Perfect! 3D Vision Ready for sure.

I have the game. I played for about an hour. It is rated as Fair in 3D Vision. You have to turn off shadows. It is far from 3D ready. It is very playable but it is not the 3D Vision ready title I was hoping for. I loved Risen 1. One of my favorite RPGS ever. Risen 2 so far seems good but the 3D can only be considered a disappointment. It is very playable and the convergence is configurable etc. However, the game has some issues with lighting. It's as if when you run into a room the lighting effects repostition themselves. I'm not sure if this is will be fixed in a game patch or a Nvidia patch. I am using the latest Beta drivers with the SLI patch for Risen 2. I would be curious if anyone had a better experience with another set of drivers.

Have to say I noticed the same things /verymad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':verymad:' />. Far away from 3D Vision ready. Maybe someone can do a "Helix Mod"? Is anyone who has the game able to do it?
Thx in advance

Great - another Alan Wake with deceptive 3D Support claims. We had to disable shadows in the first Risen because they rendered wrong.

We might have to hope the community here can fix the issues. I really tried figuring out how to contribute and make fixes but I am too much of an idiot I think.
This is what I was afraid of when I saw the screenshots were at like %15 depth. Anytime I see screens that barely show any 3D effect it makes me wonder what can potentially misalign once I add decent depth.

Now that I am home from work I have had a chance to play the game. Yes, the shadows need to be fixed but they aren't as bad as the first Risen - they were way worse than this. There is also issues with the water just like the 3D driver information mentions.

On a positive note, the nameplates above characters and creatures are in 3D, so that's definitely a plus. I think this game would look a lot better if the shadows and reflections could get fixed, and maybe find a way to push the HUD and inventory screens into the screens. I really wish I could do it but I am at the mercy of the more capable members of the community.

It looks great in 3D so far with full depth and high convergence. I have set shadows to OFF

I rushed to take some screens of the first 10 mins of gameplay.

I was hoping for a really nice 3D title here... I'm a big fan of the first game. sammaz - please change the topic of this post, it's misleading to anyone searching in google for risen 2's 3d vision support, and not actually reading this thread.

This is just bad in 3D. Really bad. :( Shadows off = game instantly looks crappy. The first "intro" section is kinda OK without shadows, but the very first "real" island you visit is insanely over-brightened and just isn't nice to look at. Water reflections off = the game IS mostly about pirates... ships... islands... you know - water related stuff. :( But you won't see much water "in-land" so I guess it's fine.

But there's plenty more in the crap 3D basket. Many conversations will pop a character way in front of the convergence point, so be prepared to cover one of your eyes quickly (or set the convergence point far far into the screen, but then what's the point?!?)... Lighting effects are completely wrong for ~33% of the lights or more (some surfaces are lit for one eye, dark for the other depending on viewing angle - there's always that uncomfortable feeling that something is not right in the scene as there's at least one of these light sources somewhere on-screen when there are torches, etc. involved). One of the character screens renders the main guy's head at the wrong depth. Plenty more of minor annoyances... So at this point the game requires some serious fixing in order to look good in 3D. It's playable, and maybe even enjoyable... but simply doesn't look "2012" with the required option changes.

And it's a shame - if you look past the no-shadows thing - the 3D is quite nice. Combat looks really cool, the caves are VERY nice in 3D - this game does have a lot of 3D Vision potential!

But to make it worse, the Helix's debug dll for D3D is crashing the game, so there isn't even a starting point to try to fix this stuff now.

I'll be honest, it isn't the 3D that bothers me. It is the constant pop in of the graphics. It is really distracting in 3D. I'm not sure that 3D is the issue and it isn't the game itself.

I thought this was some side-effect of enabling 3D but it seems to be a thing with the game... :( Damn, yet another Piranha mess. Will have to try the tweaks mentioned.

I've fiddled around with the shadow setting for this game in the data/ini/ConfigDefault.xml file and came up with this changed preset for the low setting:
<Low
DetailShadowMapCount="1"
DetailShadowMapSize="512"
DetailShadowMapSplitFactor="0"
DetailShadowMapViewRange="7500.000000"
EnableDetailShadows="false"
EnableTerrainShadows="false"
TerrainShadowMapSize="512"
TerrainShadowMapMaxDistance="40000.0"
ScreenSpaceAmbientOcclison="true"
SoftShadows="true"
>
</Low>
When you activate this, the world will be in "permanent shadow mode". I find it kinda better than the over-brightened thing and the insides of the buildings are shadowed instead of daylight-bright. Also, since Ambient Occlusion is active, the lights do look a lot better than with shadows off.

I did manage to find a version of the debug file that works with the game. Here is a link to it:

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=31421

I am willing to gift someone a game on Steam if they can get the game fully 3D-compatible. The most glaring issue is obviously the shadows, and I think the water reflections may need some work. An option to toggle a 3D HUD/menu would be cool but that would be a bonus I suppose. As I stated before, I can't fully wrap my head around this or I would love to help the community out with this.

Toggleing only works with newest version.

If you post shader for water I believe I know how to fix now. I put some work into learning lately. If you give me hud I will also put into depth. Unfortunately shadows are extremely complicated and I dont have a clue yet and Im pretty sure its different for every game = / . Though its up to you not sure its worth it with all the issues this game has. Should def. complain to developer about fixing issues.

How does it pop a character infront of convergence point?

Looks truly 3D Vision Ready. I will be setting a higher convergence than these screens though.

Your screenshots look really blurry. Is that FXAA? You might wanna try turning off the AA in the game just to make sure it doesn't blurr. Metro 2033's "MSAA" turned out not to be real MSAA and blurred the hell out of it.

Sort of like the PipBoy in Fallout NV 0or the cutscenes in Prototype... Instant cross-eye. :)

I did find some Vertex Shaders responsible for the shadows but this stuff is just a mile and and a half above me. :) In the end, disabling them is equal to just turning off shadows completely. It looked kinda better with the shadows off/ambient occlusion ON thing I did above. :( Also - there are hundreds of VS's it seems as every type of tree, building etc. has a separate one and they would all have to be fixed. :(

We need a vertex shader savvy person here. :) I doubt the devs would fix this - it spells "budget" to them and there's also that "n-word" that applies to us... no, not that one... I'm talking about "niche". :)
