Hello,

today I got my 3D Vision Wired Kit. After connecting the glasses via USB and clicking at "Enable 3D Vision" in the start menu, nothing happens. 3D Vision isn't available as menu point in the nVidia control center.

Can anybody help me to activate 3D Vision? Technical details attached below.

Thank you very much in advance,

For starters, you want to connect:

ASUS VG236HE 23" 1920x1080 (nVidia 3D Vision ready, connected to #2 via DVI)

to your GTX 260 if that is your primary display adapter. I would just leave the other displays disconnected until you get 3D Vision working, then add them back individually and set them up to clearly identify any issues. You will need to keep the 3D Vision display as the primary display on the primary adapter from what I've seen, pretty sure this is a known issue/limitation.

Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately, this has not been the solution. I reconnected the ASUS VG236HE to the GTX 260 graphics card, while all other displays have been disconnected. I tried both ports of my GTX 260 and restarted my system every time. The same problem: After clicking at "Enable 3D Vision" in the start menu nothing happens.

After these tests I reconnected my displays this way (just to ensure the 3D ready display is connected to my primary graphics card for further tests):

Can you try a different USB port? Ideally:

1) USB 2.0 - some reported issues with USB 3.0 ports.
2) Directly connected to I/O plate in back; ideally no front case ports, hubs or monitor USB ports.

Can you check in device manager to make sure the 3D glasses are recognized and functioning properly? Sorry no direct experience with these wired kits, so not sure what the issue might be with them.

No, I have no chance to reach it. As far as I know I have to enable 3D Vision prior to the configuration wizard. At the moment my procedure is as follows: I connect the wired glasses to a USB port and click on "Enable 3D Vision" in the start menu (screenshot attached), but nothing happens (normally the configuration wizard should open now).

(1) My motherboard doesn't have USB 3.0 ports, so it couldn't be the reason.
(2) I tried several ports (directly at the mainboard, the chassis ports) -- the issue persists.
(3) I think the glasses are properly recognized (screenshot attached).

Well you dont need to have working glasses for the wizard to kick in

Before i got my 3dvision kit, i used some anaglyph glasses (blue and red) and i was able to run through the wizard, there you choose between 3dvision or red and blue galsses and so on...

It llok like a software problem and not hardware (well not yet) since you cant get the wizard to start

try to find out how to start this... it is the first step you should do

there i found how to get to the wizard

On the desktop, right click and select: Nvidia Control Panel

Here, in the left side, click on Set Up Stereoscope 3D [it is under the main heading: Stereoscope 3D]

Here you can see this option:

Test Stereoscope 3D...

On the left side of this option, you can see a Downward Arrow: Click on it and then select: Run SetUp Wizard

After some hours of investigation, I finally solved the issue. The reason was a combination of several problems, all of whom I don't understand why other customers are not affected. I will enlist all problems and my solutions here; however, please note --- despite these solutions worked for me --- I can't give any promise, that these are the one and only solutions.

Entries "Stereoscopic 3D" and "Video & Television" don't show up in NVIDIA Control Panel

Symptoms:

Stereoscopic 3D and Video & Television entries are not shown in the left menu of the NVIDIA Control Panel (cf. screenshot below).

Nothing happens after clicking "Enable 3D Vision" in the Windows start menu (All programs > NVIDIA Corporation > 3D Vision > Enable 3D Vision).

Goto the services control panel (Start > Control Panel > System & Security > Administrative Tools > Services).

Solution:

The versions of the installed 3D Vision controller driver and the NVIDIA graphics driver don't match. This is the most strange issue to me: NVIDIA delivers non-compatible drivers for the 3D Vision controller within their normal drivers. For example, the NVIDIA driver package 290.36 contains the graphics driver in version 290.36 and the 3D Vision driver in version 290.36, but the 3D Vision controller driver is delivered in version 290.25 (see screenshot below)!

Check the version of your installed NVIDIA graphics driver (f.e. in the NVIDIA Control Panel).

Download the corresponding NVIDIA driver package, open the *.exe file and extract the setup files. In the installation setup, switch to costum as installation type and have a look at the supplied driver versions. Does the 3D Vision controller driver match your installed graphics driver version? If yes, proceed with the next step and abort the setup. If no, you have to download other NVIDIA driver package versions until a matching 3D Vision controller driver is supplied (not within this single package, but for your already installed graphics driver version). In my case, I installed the NVIDIA driver package 290.36, but without the 3D Vision controller driver in version 290.25. The appropriate 3D Vision controller driver is contained within the NVIDIA driver package 290.53, the 3D Vision controller driver itself in version 290.36.

Once you have found a suitable 3D Vision controller driver version, go to the extraction directory. There should be a folder NV3DVisionUSB.Driver (typically in C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\[DRIVER VERSION]\WinVista_Win7_64\International). Remember this location.

Go to your device manager and select the NVIDIA 3D glasses while plugged in. Right-click on it and select Update Driver from the context menu.

Select the entry to search for the new driver on your local computer and navigate to the NV3DVisionUSB.Driver folder discovered two steps ago.

Proceed. The new driver should now be installed. Verify this by right-clicking on the USB device again, select Properties in the context menu and select the tab Drivers. The version of your graphics driver and the USB 3D Vision glasses should now match.

More issues I realized for multi-display environments

There were more issues with my multi-display environment. Only one of my four displays is NVIDIA 3D Vision ready. I've two graphics cards, which act indepently (no SLI or so).

The 3D display has to be attached to the main port of the primary graphics card.

In order to enable 3D Vision, all other displays have to be disabled in the Windows configuration (no need to disconnect them physically).

In Windows, the 3D Vision display has to be set as main display (f.e. where the Windows task bar and the clock among others reside).
I hope, that this information will help all other people with similar problems. Please excuse the German screenshots, since I don't have the English GUI version installed on my system. Summarizing, I have to state that the NVIDIA 3D Vision technology seems not to be really mature for end-user environments, since it has incisive limitations (e.g. the aforementioned issues in multi-display environments).

Symptoms:

 • Stereoscopic 3D and Video & Television entries are not shown in the left menu of the NVIDIA Control Panel (cf. screenshot below).
 • Image

 • Nothing happens after clicking "Enable 3D Vision" in the Windows start menu (All programs > NVIDIA Corporation > 3D Vision > Enable 3D Vision).
 • Image

Solution:

Probably the NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service has not been started after system startup.

 • Goto the services control panel (Start > Control Panel > System & Security > Administrative Tools > Services).
 • Search for NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service. In all likelihood, this service has not started.
 • Image

 • Start the service by right-clicking on it and selecting Start from the context menu.
 • Image

 • Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel: Both entries should appear now.
 • Image

 • I noticed that I had to start this service manually each time, windows has been restarted. There should be a solution for an automatic start, but at the moment I don't care.

Happy that it finally works out for you

You could make it simpler too

Download the latest drivers from Nvidia (entire package) then do a clean installation (under custom or advance when you start the setup) and make sure all items are checked

I use multi display and i dont have any problem running both at the same time btw. But i did put my 3d one has the main display (not even sure it changes something

Btw, go check this guy 3d pictures if you want to be blown away by your new 3dglasses... they are amazing!!!

Glad you got it fixed, a few things:

1) the asynchronous USB driver version isn't an issue at least on the wireless emitter, Nvidia does this at times for incremental driver updates. The problem may just be with the wired version being recognized and initialized (reason the service isn't started to begin with). Maybe if you continue to have problems, you can try installing the last WHQL and see if all the hardware is recognized and installed correctly, then update to the newer drivers with asynchronous USB driver version.

2) For multi-display, you should be able to get them working with 3D Vision but you have to enable the displays in the Nvidia Control Panel, not Windows Desktop/Resolution applet. The 3D Vision display does need to be set to primary display always on your primary graphics adapter though, I don't think that can be circumvented.

Chiz, you dont need to have a working 3dvision glasses to have the 3dvision driver running so it is not hardware related... You can use 3dvision with a simple pair of red and blue paper glasses. It is either a right problem or a corrupt driver installation, not a USB problem (unless the glass usb create a conflict with the driver and shut down the service)

I've done several clean installations of the NVIDIA driver package. As a matter of fact I used additional tools to ensure a complete removal of all NVIDIA components --- but the issues described above did persist.

I had to switch back to the current stable driver 285.62 yesterday, because I encountered issues regarding system stability. In this driver version, the 3D Vision USB driver version is identical to the graphics driver version. However, I had to change the used driver for the specific USB port manually, as described above.

If USB driver and graphics driver don't match, the 3D Vision setup wizard comlains it (as far as I remember).

I haven't tried that, as I anyway have to make my 3D Vision ready display the main one for windows, as a permanent setting to this configuration is inacceptable to me. So I don't care if I have to switch off the other displays or not.
