What effects does having an old lamp in a 3d projector have
right now i am trying to switch my computer display to my projector and the picture is coming out all messed up. it shows the desktop but it is deformed. can this be because of an old bulb or did my projector break. if i switch it to normal tv. the picture comes out fine. no issues at all. if i switch it to the computer (hdmi input) then the picture comes out distorted

An old bulb only makes the image dimmer and more "yellow" than white, not distorted. Try another input of the pj or try different settings for it (refresh, resolution etc) and see if you can get some more hints....
