What a disappointing day - Dragon Age 2 & Shogan 2 Finding that cancel pre-order button
Gutted

Booted up Dragon Age 2 - 3D effect in game appears to be rather a mixed bag with good and bad -

but was I playing Dragon Age? or a mixed bag of Lord of The Rings, click fest of Dialbo mayhem ???

Must admit, I had avoided the pre-game hype and snippets, so was gob smacked to find the change in direction for the sequel - Think im going to have to cancel that pre-order and go find a Dragon Age 1 mod to play

nevermind, lets move onto Shogan 2, with the other Total war games playing reasonably well in 3D was expecting good things - Doh, another disappointment - too much at wrong depth - couldn't play in 3D at all. Will have to give the demo a good try in 2D before deciding what to do with that pre-order. I can't see a profile doing that much with Shogan - but will have to wait and see.

Guess I'll leave gaming under a dark cloud tonight and go watch the footy. Then maybe after the initial shock try returning to these two titles and re-evaluate.

I really can't say I am super thrilled with the DA 2 demo either. I will say my most enjoyment came out of being a "Ranger" (switching weapons on a rouge) and playing on my ps3 from the couch with a controller.

I tried the other classes except mage. Both warrior types and rouge and ranger. And was disapointed in all but the Ranger. If I do pick this up it will be for the console I think. At least the console version looks a crap load better then DA Origins did on console.

Oh well, tons of other stuff to play anyway.

yeah shogun was really dissapointing, I play medieval 2 in 3d all the time and love it but CA have really taken a step backwards. Maybe just maybe it will be different if nvidia release drivers for it but I'm not holding my breath that it will work.

I liked the Dragon Age 2 demo! I'll miss the wider spell selection but I like the way spells can bump into objects. The combat seems pretty much like the rest of BioWare's games (save Jade Empire), though I'll definitely be cranking the difficulty up so friendly fire hurts. Clustering together and having the mages/archers throw fireballs at their own feet is not a tactic I like using and it worked terribly well in the demo.

3D-wise, we're going to need to push convergence down a lot. This thing had too much popout for a lot of the scenes. The age-old problem of a screen-depth cursor clicking on distant objects is still a problem in this game, too. (Praying for a mod there but I'm not holding out much hope.)

We also need to have a chat with Electronic Arts about breast enlargement surgery and it's complete abscense in medieval societies - and have a chat with BioWare about being a tool for marketing dorks that are far too eager to sacrifice art for some extra cash. Sheesh. It's a world populated by Lara Crofts!

NVIDIA needs to take the 5.6 seconds required to convert the laser crosshair into a 3d mouse cursor. I can't believe they haven't done this already. There is no excuse. All the functionality is in place. They just need to take the 2 seconds required to do the work.

Most games have the ico/image files exposed so it's easy to delete the existing mouse cursor image. This is possible for Dragon Age and should be possible for DA2 as well.

Yeah Shogun 2 uses too many 2D effects for things like fire and even the arrows in air, really cheap. Still going to play it in 2D tho.. its just sad.

DA2, i knew i wouldnt like the gameplay as much as DA1, but it wasnt as horrible of a difference as i imagined. Hopefully there are quite a few more skills in the full version than in this one tho.. really sad only having shield bash and hilt strike in addition to the regular attack. How far down i had to turn the convergence to avoid going bosseyed in the cutscenes really pissed me off. Seems worse than the first one. I really wish there was a way to set hotkeys for different convergence levels, so a cutscene starts and all you have to do is press a button to toggle the lower convergence, then press a diff button when youre back in gameplay to set it back to how most ppl would have it (so character model is right around convergence point). Definitely also hate that double vision when characters have particle effects or anything behind them. Like Deadspace or ME2.

i gotta say, in the past year+ that i've owned 3D vision, i really expected to see more improvements made on nvidias end than what i have seen... which has been pretty much nothing. They always just blame the devs for games being crap in 3D instead of doing what they can to make some sort of workaround (like the mentioned convergence hotkeys/presets, or a 3d cursor).
