Honestly, I always wondered about the how tangible the benefit of having 3D on surround monitors because I figured that you're mostly really just seeing the 2 peripheral monitors with just one eye each, so couldn't you technically get most of the effect with each side monitor only rendering one 2D perspective rather than in 3D? Of course, if you ever look directly at those peripheral monitors you obviously wouldn't see in 3D though, but in some games do you find the extra rendering of 3D just goes to waste?

~ It's an interesting question, my own experience is as follows: 1. Saying one eye each isn't how it works for me. In terms of rendering and the power required, it's technically very wasteful, because it's all in your peripheral vision and the human mind/eye doesn't really see all that detail. 2. The fact that you see a widescreen full 3d image in your peripheral vision is what makes it so immersive. 3. When I first went 3d surround I was slightly disappointed. After a while, when I played a game in 3d on just one, central screen, I was even more disappointed, as that immersion factor was missing. 4. It needs a massive amount of GPU power, in case that wasn't implicitly obvious ;-) It's a shame because I was going to add a 5th point but I've had a few beers and lost my train of thought. Happy gaming anyway! :-)

@mrorange55 Seems the profile is not imported correctly or is not the correct one. Also if you don't change the depth of the HUD....by default the game will start on depth...in the screenshot is 2D....so something is wrong.

@mrorange55: yeah, I'm with Pirateguybrush, maybe try doing a DDU and reinstall the driver, and then try again with reimporting the profile.

Okay, tried again several things. It seems that the only possibility remains to install an older version of the driver. thanks.

Sorry that I detected this fix so late. I downloaded it from helixmod.blog but it doesn't seem to work well (shadows broken; the keys to toggle things don't seem to work: when I press AltGr+9 for example to get the key "]" mentioned on the blog nothing happens). Am I doing something wrong or could it be that this old fix doesn't work anymore with the latest Nvidia drivers after almost two years?

I just tested this on Win7, driver 378.92, and it was working. Keyboard commands were active and changed the shadows and HUD. Game did not look terrific though. Lots of shadows brokens, lights at screen depth. Some things were fixed, but overall, I would put it only at Fair. The photos on the web page are broken because the hosting went bad, so I can't tell what it used to look like. I'm not sure what happened there, because SteamDB says the game has not been updated for 4 years, so the current fix should match the game code. My best guess is that the driver has botched it for this game. I'd roll back to the very oldest driver you can, or at least one used in the fix.

Since there's some renewed interest in this game (even if by just one person), I'll post up the WIP I was working on to update this fix a while back when I was working on Kingdom Come: Deliverance (and made a few new Cryengine breakthroughs I hadn't before). I made a few improvements on the original fix, such as finding the cause of shadows flickering in certain areas, and also fixed CS shadows and specular reflections, but to my recollection there's still a nasty matter of some indoor shadows majorly clipping at distances beyond a few meters, and that's what essentially halted my progress here. Not sure if or when I might get back to this, my entire gaming/fixing status has been on hold for a while now. Also not sure if this will resolve any of the issues bo3b mentioned, but it's worth a shot. Download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/65mqdsw8d67e826/Ryse%20Latest%20WIP.zip

Thank you very much for the updated fix. Unfortunately with this fix I get the following error and the main menu is only a huge black screen (so I can't see what to select): "Error compiling custom shader" Without the fix it is working. Maybe I did something wrong? I hope that I can get it working, because this game, although not fresh anymore, would deserve to be played in glorious 3D. :-)

Oh, right, I forgot to change a setting (I have the HUD disabled by default). You can either press the \ key to reenable it, or go into the d3dx.ini file and change line 12 from: x = 0.0 to x = 1.0 Or just redownload the fix above. I did a quick change to fix that. About the error, just disregard that. Was an issue with the version of 3DMigoto I used, but is inconsequential.

The WIP seems better than before. Certainly playable I think. Here are some screen shots using the latest WIP. BTW, this is using Phereo.com to show these, not 3dvisionlive. I'm working with an engineer at Phereo, so if you find something broken there, please let me know and I'll forward it.
