Why andrew disappeared from here?
  3 / 4
I have just one question did anyone read and understand what has been written into this thread from start to finish?

Because allot of the reply's look like they failed to understand, or just refuse to.

I understand people as frustrated to a degree. But When people trying to help people with there issues get berated allot of good help will just pass right on by. I know I have failed to help someone when I could have, just because they were being hostile. And I can guarantee that many others have done the same. It seems the term "USER to USER" is where people are getting lost, and I am just clueless as to why. I know one user personally that I had known for awhile email me some time back and said they were leaving and left me a link to a thread. I looked at that thread and they way he was treated and to tell you the truth I dont blame him one bit for leaving the forums. To be treated like crap by the people you are taking your personal time to help sucks !

But if you want to speak to NVIDIA go through the correct steps to do so. The info has already been provided in the previous posts.

PS: and Andrew is still around just look on Twitter hes on there many days tweeting away.

I have read the thread and i would understand it to be a question "why andrew disappeared from here?". The broken english had me for a second too but the question mark at the end was a dead give away. Only thing i get from it is that peoples who have bought 3d vision kits are abit upset. I love mine, works just fine............others, not so much. I don't think anything is being "written into" the tread, I think the message is very clear........................HELLO, CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME!

First off , i also appreciate all the mods and what their doing , and i also recognize the un needed threat of the erm... banhammer.. especially as it was a harmless statement just emphasizing the lack of moderation on the 3d vision subforum..

And i recognize that the forums recently changed and thus perhaps the mods have just been added also

But it seems that every day someone posts and asks a support question which is ignored

I dont think this particular community ( 3d vision ) is trying to request the moderators answer every question but at least tell us what you can do for us..

Can you get info from nvidia about our products weve spent upwards to 1k on ?

Can you once and a while help out on a big issue or provide us with updates that the community has maybe overlooked?

Can you do Anything for us? /pirate.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pirate:' />

And i mean that in a totally serious way , unless its grounds for the banhammer..

Now, I've been foolowing this for a while now and I think THIS is the thread to comment on the current status of the 3D vision issues.
It wasn't actually before nzone and this forum were merged that any ad or mod commented and stressed the "user-to-user" thing, which leaves the level of moderation rather moderate (pardon the pun).

Now what does this tell us (at least what do I read)?

It seems that nvidia despite the fact that we talk a direct marketed product here is absolutely not willing to invest into after-sales-support allthough especially this technology would require it - I think the forum speaks for itself. But quite opposite, following the ever decreasing promotion after the big-bang release marketing campaign it seems that nvidia sorta has abondoned this product.

Having been introduced as the next best thing after inventing the wheel, we all know it rather was a "reinvention" whis is even more pityful since we never got back functionality the original drivers had: XP drivers, OpenGL support on standard GeForce, no minimum refresh rate limitation, customized anaglyph filters, just to name a few.

Now, I am absolutely happy with the "user-to-user" part of it, to take burden of the few official 3D vision support employees (the paid ones) and having somewhat a history with stereoscopy I have contributed in the past whenever I could add something useful (which I plan to continue as long as I don't get banned after having exposed my thought here).

Still I would think it advisory for nvidia to pay a little more attention here and throw in comments on a more or less frequent basis.

Which also may have lead to certain misconceptions is that we actually have seen at least intermittent contributions from what seemed to have been official nvidia members - so the request shouldn't come too unexpected. As said the redirection to the nvidia support mail was never stressed before reorganisation of these forums.
Now despite the presence of a support mail option (which we shall consider obligatory for a directly sold product) it can never compare to or replace an active community with active moderation from an official support staff.

Also mind that this is one of only 2 forums to deal with stereoscopy at5 all and while this is a pure nvidia based thing (as stated in the terms) the other one (MTBS) is independant and discusses competing proiducts the same. So if nvidia is not interested in losing their customers to the competition or even putting them off by debatable ban threads in the long rung they might reconsider the level of direct support in this particular forum rather than having the admins swinging the big eyed rabbit, erm banhammer if helpless people just dare to ask why nobody seems to care about them.

Those who are banned will definately look elsewhere, as wil those who don't get answers to their desperate questions.

Hi All,

My apologies for being away for so long. Just so you guys know, I do work at NVIDIA, I am the product manager for 3D Vision, and I have been away for a while.

The reason is a good one, since I have been on the road a lot to promote our product. I have been to about 6 conferences, 3 press tours, and a few customer visits. I've basically been on the road almost 60% of the time in the past 6 months, so when I come back to the office, I'm catching up with my day to day job and trying to prepare for my next trip.

By the way I should say if you guys are mad, you should see my wife. She's had full-time toddler duty for this time period as well, and she would love to have me home responding to her forums postings to change diapers and feed my daughter ;)

Needless to say we haven't abandoned 3D Vision users and I want to keep responding to as many questions as we can.

There are forum moderators here on this forum. ChrisRay and Amorphous are two terrific ones. Obviously I cant get to all questions as I would like since I simply do not have time to check the forums and respond to every posting. And we do have a dedicated support system which should be in my signature line and the phone number to customer support was listed right in the product.

But I want to propose a solution. I would like you guys to help me find out what are your tops issues are every week. I want ChrisRay and Amorphous to help get me the top 5-10 questions, and each week we can post the Q&A directly to you. That way, our forums mods can help stay on top of these issues with me and get my attention when its needed.

What do you say guys?

Glad to hear from you again Andrew,

Not to complicate matters, but it seems like there should be two seperate lists. One for issues related to people not even being able to use the product, like the current issue with Samsung DLP on the last 2 driver releases (supposedly "official" support has not been too helpful on that although I haven't had a chance to open a case yet), and a seperate list for game-specific issues.

Otherwise, fantastic idea.

P.S. I am very concerned that something that is not officially supported (Samsung DLP support) "breaks" for 2 driver releases in a row. It was a leap of faith to invest in the Nvidia tech with the Samsung DLP "house of cards" and I've since bought a 2nd set of glasses. Having that break and hearing about supports lack of knowledge on the issue gives me a bad feeling. This is the kind of thing that has to stop--if something works, it needs to keep working, and if it does get broken, there is no way it should make it past one driver release. Is that a fair thing to ask for?

And just to be clear on this--I just ordered an upgrade to my rig on the video card side (GTX 275) and the only thing keeping me from jumping ship to ATI on this secondary gaming PC this time around is PhysX and 3D. So . . .

Love the idea. Fantastic.

Here's the current issue that's been imbuing like mad the past 10 days but Nvidia Customer Care and Driver Assurance Feedback are either oblivious to or having no clue about even with tons of emails/feedback: Samsung DLP TVs and all CRT TVs are not detected in the past 2 release ie CD1.16 and CD 1.17.

Thanks for dropping by and hope you can do something that can make a difference to compensate for those two useless bunches.

thanks andrew really appreciate posting, and personally i understand that nvidia is doing a lot right now so i can understand why support isnt at its highest

But as previously stated the biggest issue currently is dlp and crt support .

The thing that is so bothersome about it is that it happened a long time ago in previous drivers but was fixed and now it happend twice in a row and the fact that the samsung dlp is not yet certified is troubling some of us .

Other than that i think this is a wonderful product and im excited to see all the made for 3dvision titles that are coming out , but what i think will really help this product in the long run is complete honesty and information about what is going to happen with the product

As the older games that are driver emulated and given a rating for 3d compatiblity most users want to know if

A: will they actually ever get better? ( if not we actually understand ! There is only so much you can do without having the dev actually make it for 3d so if you told us i doubt we`d be bitter towards it! :] )

B: does nvidia plan open gl? ( had to ask)

great idea Andrew.. I look forward to this effort on the part of NVIDIA to stay in touch. The only reason I wont even consider another graphics card than NVIDIA is s3d. I hope that trust can continue..

Well this is certainly a really promising development. My top ten questions to start the ball rolling (all of which have been asked numerous times in this forum by many users) are as follows:

1. The last two driver releases (1.16 CD beta and 1.17 CD) contain a bug which prevents users with generic CRTs, generic DLP TVs (like Samsungs), and at least some DLP projectors from successfully completing the 3D Vision Setup Wizard. Our displays aren't recognized as 3D Ready (despite the fact that they worked fine with all drivers up to 1.15 CD) and so we're only able to select 3D Vision Discover mode (i.e. anaglyph). When will this be fixed, and will future driver releases be tested with all these displays prior to release so this problem never arises again?

2. When will OpenGL support for Geforce cards be re-enabled? (The old nVidia sterescopic drivers had this feature prior to the launch of 3D Vision and its continued absence is a very big deal -many major games use OpenGL, like all id Software products (and dozens of games which use their engines), the IL2 Sturmovik series, X-Plane etc etc).

3. Like most other projector users, I have to wear my nVidia glasses upside down to compensate for the one frame delay, as the nVidia kit lacks any hardware or software sync adjustment. I also suffer far worse timing-related ghosting with my nVidia glasses than my old E-Dimensionals (which were a quarter of the price). As a result, the only time my nVidia glasses are ever taken out of their bag is when I've friends round playing multiplayer games, the rest of the time I'm forced to use the old E-Dims. This is really, really annoying -I'd much rather use my expensive newer glasses (which, to nVidia's credit) are well built and have an excellent emitter, unfortunately they're crippled by the lack of a sync adjustment option in the drivers.

The problem isn't confined to projector users, as it also affects owners of the bundled monitors and CRTs, many of whom also suffer from image reversal/ghosting (in a limited part of the screen) caused by incorrectly synced timing. (The latter issue is evident on both Geforce and Quadro cards). The really frustrating thing is that the old nVidia 3D drivers had the ability to fix this problem with the GlassesDelayMinus, GlassesDelayPlus and GlassesSwitchDelay registry settings so presumably it would be very straightforward to re-enable them. When can we expect to see this crucial feature return to the 3D Vision drivers?

4. The on-screen display feature of the 3D Vision drivers was a great start but unfortunately it hasn't seen any improvements since launch. Can it be expanded to include settings like convergence, frustrum adjustment, near plane, far plane etc?

5. The old nVidia stereoscopic drivers had a gamma adjustment feature which was very useful as it allowed users to set gamma adjustment (and store it in the 3D profile for each game) to compensate for the fact that shutter glasses reduce brightness by almost 50%. In the 3D Vision drivers this feature was removed so now players have to use the game's own gamma adjustment facility (if it even has one) to compensate. Of course this means that if you then play the game in 2D everything is now too bright. Will this handy feature be re-enabled in the 3D Vision drivers?

6. nVidia's efforts with regard to developer relations and 3D don't seem to have been very fruitful - almost a year after the launch of 3D Vision (and the best part of a decade since nVidia first released stereoscopic drivers) we've seen only two or three games which were specifically designed to work well with 3D Vision. 3D profiles continue to lag behind game releases (sometimes by months) when they should be available prior to the launch of a game (and its demo) so that users can play in 3D immediately (after all, most of a game's sales tend to be made in the first couple of weeks after launch and that is when people want to be able to play).

The number of existing games which have been patched to accommodate the demands of 3D is also tiny and new games continue to exhibit the same old problems again and again. Left 4 Dead 2, for example, has all the same 3D anomalies as its predecessor, including my personal pet hates, screen depth player names and incorrect depth of "3D skybox" objects, and both of these issues crop up in dozens of other games too (particularly those of Valve whose products alone make up something like 85% of the online PC action market).

When will we see nVidia take bigger steps to improve this situation? According to the Steam survey, over 60% of gamers have nVidia cards so you guys have massive influence with developers (none of whom would want to write off over half of their customers) but there seems to have been an almost total failure to capitalize on this. Given the failings of the current approach, why not increase pressure on developers by dropping all support and cross promotion for those who refuse to sign up to follow 3D Vision compatability guidelines for future games (and those who fail to update major existing games to work well in 3D)? In other words, whenever any developer contacts nVidia for help with any issue whatsoever (even if completely unrelated to 3D) the first response should be to tell them that nVidia is unable to provide any assistance until they've signed a pledge that their games will follow all 3D Vision compatability guidelines.

7. Since the launch of the original stereoscopic drivers, the 3D laser sight has always been somewhat erratic. In some games enabling it triggers massive frame rate loss, in others its movement in the Z dimension occurs in large jumps rather than smoothly, and in some games it doesn't even work at all. Will nVidia have a serious look at the underlying code and resolve these problems?

8. Settings for convergence and depth are related - adjusting one often necessitates a change in the other, yet when we save a 3D Vision profile the depth isn't stored. This means that if you adjust settings for one game, save the profile and then play a second game which requires different depth settings, you'll have to readjust the depth if you return to the first game. Can the code for saving profiles with CTRL+F7 be adjusted so that it also saves depth?

9. Previously there was a setting in the drivers for screen size. This was useful as display size has a major effect on perceived depth so a profile that's been designed to work well on a tiny 22" screen won't look right on a 72" projector screen (and vice versa). The lack of this feature is particularly worrying as nVidia have now allowed developers to lock some settings like convergence. This means that users are stuck with settings which don't work properly with their screen as they've been locked at levels which are only appropriate for a completely different screen size. It also means that sharing profiles is more problematic as the drivers don't adjust them to allow for screen size. Can this feature be re-enabled? (and can the capability for devs to lock other settings be eliminated?)

10. We can already take 3D screenshots, but the drivers currently have no facility to record movies in 3D. This would be a great addition as presumably having it at the driver level would have less impact on frame rates than an external application like FRAPS. It would also be a great tool for creating content to promote 3D Vision. Is there any chance that this could be added?
But I want to propose a solution. I would like you guys to help me find out what are your tops issues are every week. I want ChrisRay and Amorphous to help get me the top 5-10 questions, and each week we can post the Q&A directly to you. That way, our forums mods can help stay on top of these issues with me and get my attention when its needed.

What do you say guys?

DD, great summary. That's like a summary of this forum over the last few months for those of us without time to follow this day-to-day.

I was looking forward to getting an Optoma HD65 when they certify it for 3D with the firmware upgrade, but #3 has me re-thinking that. Since Andrew is looking for the "top 5-10", I vote for at least 1,2, and 3. Even when/if I get a 3D projector, I still plan on gaming on my Samsung LED DLP also. So I'd have 2 "unsupported" devices that should be able to be supported going forward with a little help from Nvidia. And it isn't like either one of them have a viable "supported" alternative. The only thing close to the LED DLP is the Laser one that costs 3-5 times as much (I despise color wheels and bulbs in RPTVs), and the specs of the HD65 are much better than the "certified" projectors.

My point--don't semi-lock us into proprietary stuff because the proprietary/"supported" stuff doesn't offer the performance or price or even features to justify it.

I'm fairly new to 3D vision but this looks to be the most comprehensive and knowledgable list of issues I've seen.

Question 1. being the most obvious and urgent, just basically a bugfix for a CD v1.16 display detection issue which shouldn't have slipped by the CD v1.17 driver release.

Question 3. I believe is a feature that could have the most effect on bettering the quality of the 3D experience and allow the technology to operate the way we all would have liked and expected. If correctable with previously available adjustments, framesync-related ghosting is really a shame.

There are issues listed here that I haven't personally run into, and some that may be out of this product's particular scope. But I'll just say +1 to the entire post. A very good feedback of issues to work on. And thanks so much for reestablishing contact with your loyal 3D vision userbase Andrew! Hope the wife takes it easy on you when you decide to tackle this list ;)

Hi Andrew, I have owned my 3d bundle for 1.5 months now (sounds like a AA meeting) lol. I love this whole 3d gaming thing. My bundle right now works awsome, it has completely changed how i play my games. Great product (glasses are better than i expected+my samsung monitor rocks too). Here are things that i would like to see changed/added

1) less ghosting, this is really the only real real bitch i have right now.

2) Profiles before the game release-i dont care how you do it, just get it done! Its like this, I buy the stuff need for 3d. Then i have to wait even longer after the release date for the game to look good because i have 3d vision-its like some weird punishment........I cant play my game cause it does not look good in 3d, which is to say i cant play my new game.........there is no 2d anymore.

3) I do like what DickDastardly said about recording 3d in motion......this is a great idea.

4) One of the features for me (as advertised at point of sale/in print) is the ability to use 3d vision for stuff other than gaming. There is very few examples of real 3d related media that can be seen using 3d vision. Your website (i say "your" because you speak as Nvidia here) kind of sucks, no offence but as far as 3d trailers, mini movies, pics, or even links to sites is very very limited. The 3d vision page really does not offer alot of anything after the sale. This is were you can set up big time and shine, so bring it.

5) I would like more control over my 3d settings. A single spin wheel on the back of the emmiter and a few button strokes are all i get to control this. I have read of features that allowed for more user input but have been removed. Let me decide what works for me. This is not to say that the time nvidia spent to build the profile was a waste but i may want to tweek it just for my set up.

6) OK this is important-i just thought of this. This is really really big for me. With buying the 3d bundle (glasses+2233) where does this get me with my playstation 3? My samsung 2233 does not have a sync cable spot in the back like newer 3d ready screens for my nividia emmiter. I can only use a pc-usb to sync my glasses with the screen so (here is my question) will i be able to plug my emmiter into my ps3 usb port to sync with my screen. The ps3 runs nvidia so it would only make sense to me that this should be an option. Now Andrew, of all the things i have asked this is now my most important, please dont respond with some lame answer of "not up to me". Please find out.

7) More info from nvidia about............everything 3d vision related. Cloak & Dager be damm, how many of us are there? Are you Andrew an owner of 3d vision too? Are sales picking up........the more of us the better. You did just offer a more open relationship with us 3d vision buyers/users so lets share.

Its nice to come in here and see the good stuff. Remember, Avatar comes out tommorrow.
