Nvidia 3D Vision on a Geforce QuadroFX 3700M
I am a scientist that does a lot of three-dimensional molecular modeling and previously used the Nvidia 3D Vision system coupled with a desktop computer containing an Nvidia QuadroFX 3700 video card. The 3D effect produced by this system on the new 120 Hz LCD displays and Nvidia 3D Vision system was spectacular compared to CRT monitors coupled with the old SGI "Toaster" computers and Crystal Eyes shutter glasses.

I just started a new position in a new laboratory and was provided with a Dell Precision M6400 laptop containing a Geforce QuadroFX 3700M (note the M designation for what I'm assuming means mobility) video card with 1 GB of dedicated video RAM. The laptop has two video outputs: (1) Standard VGA output and (2) a Display Port output.

I have two questions/problems:

(1) Can anyone on these forums or from Nvidia confirm whether the Nvidia 3D Vision system will provide stereoscopic 3D within OpenGL using a Geforce QuadroFX 3700M video card within the Windows operating system before I go about asking my supervisor to spend several hundred dollars on an LCD display and the 3D Vision attachment/glasses?

(2) In addition, many crystallographic and molecular modeling programs are written for Linux operating systems, but not for Windows. Are there any plans to implement the 3D Vision system with Quad Buffered stereo on Linux?

Many Thanks, Jim

Hi, i'm a student and i and my parnert are making a software proyect -Virtual Drums-, we are using Polhemus Liberty Tracker System and eMagin Z800 3D visors, we can't make work 3D stereoscopic vision with NVIDIA QUADRO FX 3700 card.

We are visiting foros, people on it said that doesn't work but they said that it works with Quadro 1500, i don't know.

Sorry by my English...

An Nvidia QuadroFX 3700 or an Nvidia QuadroFX 3700M? The QuadroFX 3700 is installed in desktop computers, while the QuadroFX 3700M is installed in laptops.

My original post is with concern to the QuadroFX 3700M graphics processing unit in a laptop.

Jim,

What OS is on your laptop - XP or Vista? If you're .gov like I am, I'm guessing XP Pro, probably 64-bit. There's a 195.39 beta driver that was released Oct 30 (available here) that should support 3D Vision although I couldn't find anything specific. You might want to follow up on this thread, which, again, is not definitive. Sorry I couldn't be of more use and I hope you get a response from someone else that's actually helpful. Good luck!

Currently running XP 64 bit, but Vista Enterprise 64 bit is available so that's not a problem. Just need to know if the 3700M itself will do stereoscopic 3D in OpenGL with the 3D Vision system.
