I am a 3D Gamer, and so are you! Let's all get to know one another!
  1 / 4
Hello everyone, I have been a 3D gamer since the late 90s. It is one of my favourite activities, and I'm sure it is one of yours too! It is sad that 3D has become such a niche. It is expensive to enter, and the learning curve is quite steep. One needs patience, knowledge, and willingness to ignore imperfections. It doesn't need to be said that 3D gamers are a certain rare breed. Unfortunately, we seem to be forever dwindling in numbers. I see old familiar faces disappear, and it saddens me greatly. Like everyone else, we can't go around to our friends to talk about 3D gaming. The only interface we have with each other is this forum, and a couple of others which seem deserted nowadays. We are a handful of active users remaining in the entire world :( I check this forum daily, for news, reviews, updates; all the while wondering who all you interesting folk are? What your story is? In which part of the world you live? Wouldn't it be a good idea if we were to (carefully) share our information in a thread? As much or as little as you would like. Hopefully we can get past faceless posts and maybe get to know one another as friends. We might even be surprised by how close some of us live to one another. I wish there was a map on which we all could put our general location on. A few google searches show maps which one can share, but nothing that I come across would let individual locations be editable by shared users... Perhaps you have suggestions? I'll start... My name is Shahzad. I am 34 years of age. I live in Cambridge, UK. My background is in engineering. I have been into 3D since the late 90s, and use it in the little spare time I have after the Mrs is asleep. Some of you may know me from the old MTBS3D, Stereo3D.com, and StereoVision.net forums. Please don't let my RAGEdemon handle scare you. It's just something stupid I thought up in my teen years, which has stuck as, unfortunately, my old school and uni friends still call me by this name :P It's nice to meet you! ======= EDIT: Wow great responses! Flugan suggests perhaps using Steam 3DVISION Community group chat room. EDIT 2: Aquarank has kindly put up a map on this thread.

My name is Ian I am 28 years old I'm relatively new to 3D gaming, having only bought my Alienware M17x in 2012. I live in Canberra, Australia I work as a software engineer for an open source lab (http://ozlabs.org/about.html) inside IBM that is very well regarded within the Linux and Open Source community. My username DarkStarSword is from an idea for a game I had back in high school. I never ended up making that game, but I liked the name so it stuck. Nice to meet you!

My name is Ulf. I am 32 years of age. I live near Gothenburg, Sweden. I have a master from CHALMERS in Integrated Electronic System Design. Spent 18 months at Imperial College in London studying Electric and Electronic Engineering. I am authistic and bipolar a pretty bad combination. My nick Flugan came when The Fly was on TV which meant my name spelled backwards. There is an 3D Vision group on steam, my thinking is to use the chatroom there in addition to lurking the forum. What are your thoughts on the matter. Been a 3D gamer since mars 2011 and have 2 3D monitors and 3 pair of glasses. Bought but recently misplaced my Fujifilm W3 3D camera. Taking 3D photos is pretty cool. Talk about photorealistic images. Edit: Adding my steamid here, http://steamcommunity.com/id/Flugan

I'm Russell, also 40 (Ouch!) and live near Bedford, UK. Interestingly I have a degree in Engineering but have been in IT ever since leaving university. First computer was a rubber keyed ZX spectrum and have been into gaming ever since, evolving through various home machines (ST/Amiga), consoles and of course always PC.. I remember you from the other forums as we had the same projector. Nice to meet you too! Would be happy to meet up in Cambridge some time.

I'm not andysonofbob, but I'm an Andy, son of a Bob. 31 years old. I'm an American but I've been living in Japan teaching English for almost ten years. The PS3 was my entry point into 3D gaming, which soon led me here.

My name is Bruce. I am 58 years of age. I live in Damascus, MD. I recently retired after 30+ years working for Corporate America primarily as a programmer/analyst. I have been into 3D since the late 1980s when X-Specs 3D came out for the Amiga. Included a 3D game called "Space Spuds" that I played countless times. Also played 3D games on the Sega Master System. Years later I used eDimensional 3D glasses to play older PC games in 3D on a PC with an old Nvidia graphics card. I've been using 3D Vision since it first came out and have well over 100 games I play in 3D. I own just about every console gaming system that's come out except the new PS4 and Xbox One. I haven't played a console game in several years (other than my Nintendo 3DS) because I now can only really enjoy playing games in 3D. Can't wait for the commercial version of the Oculus Rift which will take 3D gaming to the next level.

Greetings from Western europe - Austria, Germany, Switzerland I started gaming 20 years ago with Atari and so on. 2 years ago 3D Vision crossed my way and this is the only reason, that I didnt quit this hobbie. In our countries we got a very bad Publicity around 3D Vision. So I decided to post a 3D Vision review to share information in a German spoken forum. In this 2 years this thread - in my signature - has been clicked 250.000 Times and was commented over 4.000 times. A very productive and fantastic group of 3D Vision gamers grew and 2 weeks ago we had our first team speak conference. 3D Vision is still alive here. Greetings , Ron

Not surprisingly I am called Mike, and I was born in 1969. Hence the username... I guess that makes me 46 this year (in 2 weeks). I live in Washington, DC, for almost 10 years, though I am a Brit from Hull originally. I'm an IT Program Manager at a University, though my background and education is in Physics (@Flugan - I was also at Imperial College, I did a PhD there in the mid-90's). Been a "gamer" most of my life from Sega Mega Drive to the present, and into 3D for about 9 years I guess. I started using 3D Vision pretty much as soon as it emerged, and here I still am :-) I have less time for my "modding hobby" nowadays because I made the unfathomable decision to go back and study a Masters degree, but I love the challenge and reward of getting a game working, and it's been great working with bo3b on a very productive past 12 months of DX11 games.

I'm Octavian (but most of you already know it from my site ^_^). I was born in 1983 (December present lol) and thus I'm 31. I'm a Romanian living in Bournemouth UK for quite some time now. I'm an Automation Engineer (specialized in Computer Driven Advanced Systems going from simple things all the way to Nuclear power plants) and currently working as a Software Developer/Engineer (How you wanna call it). I started gaming in 1991 (Long live the Atari and Nintendo systems!!!) and pretty much moved to PC around 1996 (last console I used was the PS2 which I ditched after 2 months since the Options menu looked quite dull ^_^). Since I was always passionate about gaming and graphics I decided to learn a bit more about it and hence I also have a MSC in Computer Animation and Visual Effects (One can't have enough masters can he? ^_^) While I skipped the original 3D Vision release (back in the 90'-2k years) I immediately picked up 3D Vision in 2009. In 2011 (after 3D Surround was "released") I moved onto it and is the main setup I still used to this day (ofc hardware changed in the meantime ^_^). As I was always interested in what makes a thing (game) "tick" I started meddling into fixing games (both for Surround/Eyefinity users and stereo 3D-> 3D Vision/Surround ). And well, here is where I pretty much am;)) PS: I also like building my own PCs since 1999 ^_^ for some reason, I wouldn't let anyone do it in my place (not even my wife...shhhh don't tell her that ^_^).

Cool stuff, I really enjoyed learning about the gang here and all of your backgrounds! My name is Fred, 48 and I live "what us Canucks call the great white north". I live just outside of Toronto, ON Canada. I used to have a console way back in the day called the Gemini if anyone can remember? Two games still in my mind from those olden days and one is Castlevania and the other is Karnoff, the Russian fire ball expert! My interest in gaming changed when I financed an Atari ST with 1 Meg of RAM, which at that time was like "Holy Shit", The game Dungeon Master forever switched me away from the console. I've been a PC gamer ever since and I still believe it to be the eternal champion as a gaming platform. Part of this attitude is the PC involves a lot of tinkering, modding and building systems which is part of the gaming packgage as a whole. I love IT technology and I am a Technical Sales person at heart. I love selling what I believe in and in order for me to be succesful in selling, I have to have conviction in what I sell. Being a provider of IT products has done this for me. I am a business owner with two other partners and the three of us share passion in the IT products industry. I never thought I'd have my own business, but my last employer threw a curve ball by hiring a new manager which became the biggest asshole I have ever met in my life. How these people get these jobs still baffles me. Nasty lawsuits did ensue and through the ashes of a 2 year struggle my partners and I formed an IT products company. Funny how life is. I became the web developer using Visual Studio and I do understand HTML, ASP.Net and Visual Basic. I want to use these technical skills to help assist with 3D fixes. Time though is my biggest problem! I got hooked to 3D vision by seeing a demo in a Best Buy and in hindsight, I realize the person who must of set it up in the store knew something about convergence and depth. That did it for me. 2D gaming is not an option for me anymore. Thanks to this 3D community and the helixmod site, this has become my third passion in life. My business first, then playing soccer or football for my esteemed European gang and finally 3D vision as being the most amazing form of escapism from the real world. We need this time to time! Nice to me you guys and thanks for creating the thread RAGEdemon!

My name is Nathan and I am 33 living in Phoenix Arizona. I have been into video games pretty much as long as I can remember. I love first person, no hud, open world games the most. That's why I have played a lot of Elder Scrolls Online lately( Thanks for the fix Mike!!) After seeing Avatar in IMAX 3d I started researching 3d video games. Not long after I was a 3d vision user. I have a 82 inch 3d DLP, a 27 inch Asus with 3d vision 2, & a Samsung 40 inch 2d to 3d conversion LCD TV. I refuse to play any video game in 2d. If there is not a 3d Vision fix or Compatibility Mode I use my 2d to 3d Samsung TV that works on any game(its nowhere near 3d vision fyi but better than 2d). I am intrigued by the Oculus Rift, but because I am a graphics whore I refuse to deal with bad image quality people talk about. I am pretty sure I will buy the consumer version eventually. To me the people who make these fixes for free walk on water. They are great and Nvidia is very lucky they exist.
My name is Nathan and I am 33 living in Phoenix Arizona.

I have been into video games pretty much as long as I can remember. I love first person, no hud, open world games the most. That's why I have played a lot of Elder Scrolls Online lately( Thanks for the fix Mike!!)

After seeing Avatar in IMAX 3d I started researching 3d video games. Not long after I was a 3d vision user. I have a 82 inch 3d DLP, a 27 inch Asus with 3d vision 2, & a Samsung 40 inch 2d to 3d conversion LCD TV. I refuse to play any video game in 2d.
