3d is pretty good - a little bit of ghosting in brighter areas.

Crosshair is not 3d - u have to use laser sight.

There is one problem with Mass Effect and that it is not possible to disable built-in crosshair so it stand in the way it is meant to be played.
And also other icons are not in depth.

I suppose that the same lame situation is in ME2, so I will put for this game 1920x1200 monitor on my desk.

Maybe that helps also for ME2:
Put this into the gamerConfig.ini

[Engine.HUD]
bShowHud=False

[SystemSettings]
Bloom=False
LensFlares=False
FloatingPointRenderTargets=False

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
DisableHWShadowMaps=True

The Engine seems nearly the same as for ME. I am sure that this will help also in ME2 to get rid of the bloom and lensflares at screen depth. Fog shouldn´t ghost and HUD is disabled. if you could play with disabled hud is another question. *g*

Of course I tried bShowHud in ME, but I need that hud.
The best would be full compatibility with stereoscopy, but this sucks. Anyway, it will be good in 2D, however I would prefer 3D.

Do you know how transfer of game data is done between ME and ME2?

PS:
I do not have ME2, because I am not pirate and criminal.

No sorry i don´t have the game yet.
And yes you are right there are many games out there made with unreal3 engine that suffer from the same problems in Nvidias 3D. On the other way there are no to nealy no problems with iz3ds driver.

That again should mame Nvidia´s 3D team think over their strategy. Maybe 3D gaming would be selling better if those anomalies won´t be there. Talked to a friend of mine yesterday that L4D in 3d is realy great. He told me of couse it would be cool but if you have to installed 500-1000 different driver versions, hack something, manipulate ini files, etc... its not for the mass market and nothing that he would buy.

On the other side Nvidia tries to push the developer to support 3D in their engines. But that wouldn´t help for the games released.

I agree, it speaks really badly to the support of these games that these blockbuster games get so close to an amazing experience in 3D and then fall short b/c the object indicators are at screen depth or the crosshairs are at screen depth. nVidia, this is easy stuff and we know you work with the devs. Make them fix it!

It takes two to tango and unless Bioware is receptive, there isn't much that can be done.

That said, this game looks pretty good in 3d once I ignore the crosshair.

Those 2D hud things in ME didnt bother me too much. The cut scenes were my favorite part of the game! Wish I didn't throw away halo that would of been fun in real 3d too.

Maybe, but as i said there are no artifacts with iz3ds driver in ME1 beside shadow problems, so this is something that could be done without support of the developers.

As i read you are familar with oblivion so i guess also with oge/obge. There is always a way to hack into dx/shader and especialy if you are devoloper of GPU drivers that dont need those hacks.
Of course that binds men/hour to get the games work aaa+. But if a game like ME or GTA4 and many other don´t suffer from shadow problems or other artifacts the word would be spread and Nvidia could show that they are a Company that care in happy customers and not only in making money quick.

By the way there should be a bitmap file for crosshair so deleting it or changing it with a file with 100% transperency would help in ME1 and also in ME2.

Yes this is possible for various games, but I did not discover it for ME. In ME crosshair is more complicated - it is dynamic - radius is changing according to experience and weapon, so I suppose it is not image in archive.
This sucks so badly, I would like to play ME2 in stereo but crosshair in zero depth is very distracting and annoying for me.

I figured out a way to get rid of only the crosshair in the first Mass Effect. Now I am working on a way to get rid of it in the second. I'll keep you guys posted.

If i were playing the game in 2d, i STILL would like to remove that crosshair. Seems to be a modern thing in games now to remove choices in the menus. Remember unreal tournament 2 menus? Were so thick with choices... and now? Well I noticed my mouse sensitivity was WAY high, so I went into the ME2 menus thinking "well crap I probably will get one of those lousy sliders instead of the possibility to just type 1.62" but guess what. No number field, not even a slider, the sensitivity is set by "low, medium or high" and low is still pretty much retardedly high, even on 800 dpi...
