First Person Shooters & 3D Does it effect your performance?

Hiya guys,
Have been reading a few sites where people who play mainly FPS games, say they prefer 2d over 3d because playing in 3D lowers there skills in aiming etc
Was wondering if this is true or not? and if its true, is the 3d experience that good that the sacrifice is worth it?

I think it's true. The computer performance is usually lowered in 3d. There's also a good chance that a stereoscopic image takes more time for the brain to process than a 2d-image. Without doubt 3d in fps looks way more immersive and since i'm certainly not a top notch player i prefer 3d and the risque of getting fragged more.

I wanted to get this massive projector set up and experience all these explosions in 3d, but im not sure if im willing to sacrifice my skill in the game for it.
maybe i should buy the planar lcd monitor first with very little ghosting to see what its like?
or should i just forgo 3d, because fps games are all i play.

As Big Boy says: When playing fps-games 3d is very immersive and all games (especially fps and 3'rd person perspective games) looks a lot better with it. However if you only in for the competition 3d will most probably not give you any advantage against other players.

yeah, no way you should buy those LCD monitors, monitors went out of fashion with CRT really,& these are bogus-monitors at most. So, I'd start to think about projector setup, thats the best way to experience 3D to date ( plus DLP TV's). BTW 120hz DLP has better input lag than LCD-s, and better motion handling too, but for 2D, 720p is not enough, while 3D 720p is quite a plesure to look at !

Don't let these "some guy said" replies cheat you out of the fun experience of 3D. Whatever skill you lose is vanishing small to non-existant. I find no difference whatsoever as long as the aiming reticle doesn't go double. So keep in mind that to "lose skill" means nothing unless you quantify it. DO you lose 50% of your aiming skill? 1%? .000001%?
Your question is highly personal and subjective,so you must evaluate it for yourself.

-if you won't hit 120frames, your input lag will be twice as bad for example, not to mention how bad 30frame per eye looks, especially with an action game.

in my experience, the 3d effect is not even the problem, assuming the game is 3d ready (crosshair/ironsight at correct depth).
it's the input lag you get with 60hz (per eye) + vsync, which is way to high for competitive gaming.
in id tech engine games 60hz with vsync feels so laggy, it's downright irritating even in singleplayer.
it usually helps to disable mousesmoothing in ue3 games, to set all normalizeinput cvars to false in bfbc2 and so on, but it still won't be nearly as accurate as 120hz (per eye for 3d).

In the past... I felt that 3dvision slowed my reaction down when playing first person shooters...
I used the play it on my Sammy rz2233.
BUT... now I have the new AcerGN245 led lcd ,and I feel like this is not a problem anymore...
Coold be the brighter picture because of the leds,or because it has less ghosting...well maybe it's both...
