Assassin's Creed II & Brotherhood Framerate is capped at 60!!!
I'm getting an average of 30fps and I'm not satisfied with it.

Anyone knows the workaround method to this issue?

Get a 2nd 460 for SLI, or better yet, 2x570 or 580s in SLI. Alternatively you can try turning down some settings although you may have to drop resolution to 720p to get 60FPS per eye with that card. A single 460 is not enough to expect 60 FPS per eye in 3D Vision for most games made in the last 2-3 years, let alone titles that look as outstanding as the AC series.

Thanks for the advice. Assassin's Creed worked fine without capped framerate & I played with an average of 50fps throughout the whole game.

AC2, Brotherhood, and presumably Revelations all run incrementally worst than their predecessors because they look significantly better with each installment. AC1 still looks great today and was an outstanding looking title when it was released in 2007, but the difference with 2 is readily obvious. Its simply not realistic to assume II will run as well as I did on your hardware, just as it wouldn't make sense to make the same assumptions with any other sequel spread 2-3 years apart. You can read about some of the updates they made to the Anvil engine here: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,704779/Assassins-Creed-2-PC-is-DX9-only/News/

But the biggest thing with 3D Vision performance is to get a realistic expectation about performance. A single 460 is not enough to expect capped 60FPS in modern games at max settings and 1080p, 2 of them in SLI is maybe good enough for most titles. Easiest way to get an idea of performance is to run it in 2D with uncapped frames. In non-CPU limited situations, you can expect roughly half of that FPS in 3D Vision. I'm willing to bet you are not getting 100+ FPS in 2D, so not really sure why you would expect 60 FPS per eye in 3D Vision.

No one will get 100+ FPS in Assassin's Creed II or Brotherhood because the "magnificent" Anvil engine has a capped framerate of 60. Don't argue with the bloody hardware, some games are just more optimized than the other. I can run recent games like Crysis 2, Dragon Age I,II, Mafia II, etc...with about 40fps on Maximum settings at 1080p in 3D Vision!!! One thing I really admire about Crysis 2 is that, from 2D to 3D, the framerate drops only by 2-4fps. Now this is what I call OPTIMISED GAME FOR THE PC!

By the way, thanks for replying to my topic. I'm having a good time discussing with you. Nowadays, a lot of developers don't pay much attention to the PC already. NEXT-GEN CONSOLE....what...PS3 & XBOX 360....hahaha... Most of the games are optimised for them & not for us. We Dedicated PC Gamers get Poor Ports & even the greatest & mightiest hardwares suffer!!! What can I say? Blame Piracy?...I don't know anymore...I just hope that BF3, B:AC & MW3 will be well optimised for the PC. That's all I can say...

Brotherhood isn't capped to 60FPS for sure, I was playing it the other day in both 2D and 3D Vision and was definitely getting 100+ FPS with 3D off, but that's because I have the hardware to push that kind of framerate. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Again, you can blame the engine and optimizations all you like but its still completely unrealistic to expect 60FPS per eye on AC2/Brotherhood/Revelations just because you happened to in AC1 on the same hardware. Might as well expect the same performance in Mass Effect 1/2, Dragon Age 1/2, etc. Unless they made no changes to the graphics its just not going to happen for you when you go from prequel to sequels over the span of a few years.

Also, Crysis 2 is one of the worst examples you could've brought up since its inferior approach to stereo 3D was actually to benefit the consoles and the fact they don't have the horsepower to render dual camera views for 3D. Yes the main benefit of Crytek's approach is that you get virtually zero performance drop in 3D, but you also get a much flatter 3D effect than with the traditional dual render approach. If you were around for launch you would've seen most people here (with enough GPU horsepower) wanted the option for proper dual render 3D via Nvidia's driver rather than Crytek's fake 3D solution.

You're right about Brotherhood. It's framerate is not capped. Now I can see that you're the kind of graphic enthusiast & audiophile perhaps, just the particular kind of Maximiser I don't wish to become. I'm fine with the framerate, thank you for the advice. I wonder how much more will I have to spend for getting a SLI setup or a GTX5--- series? Also, how great will the digits on the total amount of my electrical bill per month become? I just can't imagine....

Well it helps to try and understand the problem instead of just mindlessly bemoaning your situation. 3D Vision is certainly the next evolution in PC gaming but the number one barrier to entry is undoubtedly its prohibitive costs. The first thing people should understand when looking at 3D Vision is that it will require roughly 2x the GPU power to run the same frame rates at the same settings, or that it will roughly cut FPS in half with all things being equal. If you don't think you'd be satisfied with that prospect, you need to look into spending more on GPUs. Luckily Nvidia offers a readily available solution with SLI to help offset this loss of FPS.

Well the GTX 460 was a mid-range solution when you bought it, probably not much more than $200, you can probably pick one up for significantly less than that now that there's a whole generation's product stack faster than it now. That would be an easy way to double your FPS or hit the 60FPS per eye cap you desire at a reasonable cost since your X58 platform already supports SLI. The 460 also doesn't use too much power, probably 130-150W under load so it shouldn't add too much to your power bill. Besides, winter is coming so you can cut back on your heating bill as well. :)

Hey, I live in Malaysia. A tropical climate country, there's no winter. In addition, I'll have to turn on my air conditioner! It's damn hot here...

I was supposed to sell my gpu to my buddy & get a ENGTX560 DCII OC off Amazon with a free d2d Batman: Arkham City but most unfortunately, I don't live in USA.

By the way, I finally launched Hard Reset...It was awesome...Great job, Flying Wild Hog!
