World of Warcraft 3D Issues?
It's been many years since I played WoW so I was wondering what the current state of the game is in 3D. What major issues are there that I should be aware of? Things that are usually a problem in MMO's are: Is the crosshair 3D? Do shadows render correctly? Are nameplates above characters and NPC's in 3D? Thanks in advance for any input that can be offered.

The only problem I had with it when i was playing a few months ago was when you alt tabbed out of the game and then went back in the interface was out of line with hotbar buttons and chat, you'd have to go into video options and adjust the in game convergence and it would fix itself instantly.

last time I played the game it looked perfect in 3D using the DX9 and DX11 renderer. Disable the Hardware mouse to enable the 3D mouse cursor, shadows and nameplates all look perfect. If you try a trial account it will look the same as a subscription account and show you how it looks. The only issue I found is that the performance drops really badly in 3D in SLI because the game scales badly on NVidia hardware. I hope you have a big graphics card otherwise your FPS will really suffer.

Yikes, my account was hacked apparently sometime while I was away from the game and it took me some time to get back on. Thanks for all the feedback. I played for a short bit and followed the directions listed above, specifically about the mouse and water settings. One thing I noticed is that the sky isn't pushed out that deep into the background but it is not horrible. I do see some effects that appear to be fog or clouds render in 2D. Is there are way to get around that?

There's not much you can due about certain things, especially the sky. Depending on your rig's performance, you can use console commands to make further "custom" changes to display settings for better performance or picture quality. Via in game macros you can make it so you can easily switch between settings for PVE, PVP, Farming, Sightseiing, etc... I always had my farclip maxed. If you have a monthly datacap with your ISP you might not want to be sending so much draw information back and forth. A great video showing a few adjustments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrJjwY59jts http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3657612162 http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/8196654170 http://www.wowwiki.com/Console_variables

FYI, Setting wow.exe to the Aion profile allows you to set water quality to the Ultra setting. The reflection issues in 3D don't show up with that profile. You have to be using the the 32-bit client however as the 64-bit client will still have the issue. I am using it so I can utilize SweetFX for things like sharpening and SMAA. Tried Mists of Pandaria trial not long ago. For me 3D just doesnt add enough to justify using it in WoW

I never understand it when people say 3D adds nothing to a game. IMO 3D adds a huge amount of scale to MMO's, and can make them look amazing.

Others either look like crap in 3D or effect isnt good enough to deal with side issues. I guess for players who prefer smell flowers and catch butterflies online those issues will be less noticable. For me 3D is only distracting when I do PvP. You can check my rating for 3D in MMORPGs, in case you missed it: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/523077

It does seem like 32-bit dx9 with Aion profile makes Ultra water work. 32-bit dx11 with Aion profile didn't work. I have not tried all the other possible permutations.
