game profiles and convergence questions
Simple, what do game profiles do for 3d ? I changed my profile to WoW but nothing seems to change, the settings are all global and there isnt anything pertaining to 3d..I ask this because i see so many people having problems with diff games in 3d and the common answer is to change the game profile to a diff one..Will I get a better 3D experience with different profiles ?

My second question is about convergence...How exactly do i tweak this setting...Games like WoW for example i just spam ctrl f5-6 and nothing seems to change except after a couple seconds the screen just distorts dramatically...

There is no way to change the 3D Vision profile, its built into the driver. the Global settings lets you change image quality settings and effects.

To adjust converence, launch the NVIDIA Control Panel > Stereoscopic 3D > Set up Stereoscopic 3D > Set Keyboard Shortcuts > then click the down triangle to "Show advanced in-game settings." This lets you configure the convergence hotkeys for in-game control.

I think what you're thinking of is the hack that allows you to play a game that is not 3d Vision-enabled by renaming the .exe to one that is. Doing so can "trick" the drivers into applying a known game's profile to the one you're playing which on occasion will actually work.

It's subtle, but that's the point. Think of the depth slider on the IR Transmitter as the "volume" knob and F5/F6 convergence as the "equalizer" for fine-tuning. Here's what you do: zoom in so your toon is pretty close to your field of vision (not SUPER-close so it's distorted, but pretty close). Then press ALT+F5 and hold it down. Watch your toon carefully. You will see the image start to come apart in one direction or the other.... then reverse it. Hold down ALT+F6 and you'll see it do the opposite. The goal most of the time IMO is to get it so that your toon at the distance you usually keep him/her to be a single image in perfectly converged alignment. This will give you the least strain on your eyes. You can also repeat the exercise focusing on far away objects instead to reduce far away ghosting, but then your toon and other close-up objects will be out of alignment. You have to find the balance that works best for you.

thanks for the comments they really helped...one last question though i noticed i cant play any other game at 120 hz if it isnt max res of 1680x1050 but if i roll back drivers to lets say 180.xxx i can attain 120 hz at all resolutions but i wont have 3d enabled...anyone know if there is a fix ?

ok this is driving me crazy.,, The problem is I CANT get 120 hz on all resolutions except 1680x1050 with the latest drivers...but when i roll back drivers pre-3D support like driver 180.xx..I can get 120 hz on ALL resolutions but obviously the downfall here is I have no 3d capability...what happens is in games like counter-strike (with latest drivers) I get 120 hz on max res, as soon as I change to any other res it reverts back to 60 hz...My monitor is the viewsonic 3d one and I have tried different programs that were supposed to lock the refresh rate but none have worked...only drivers that don't support 3D seem to fix this problem..

Can you answer the following questions for me?

- Which GPU do you have?
- Where do you not see the 120 Hz mode? Windows desktop or in-game?
- When you run a game in 3D Vision, does it work in 3D?
- Did you run the setup wizard and force the 120 Hz override? There is a question we ask you in the setup wizard to have the NVIDIA driver to force a refresh rate override. Ok, My video cards are gtx 260's sli and i have the latest drivers...The problem is I DONT get 120 hz refresh rate in resolutions below 1680x1050 (max res)...this is without 3d..meaning i just want to play the game normal but in lower res...The problem can be fixed if i roll back drivers to 181.xxx any higher and the problem begins, but if i do that(roll back drivers)... I wont have 3D capability because you need atleast driver 182.xxx to run stereo...Basically it's a video driver problem and have found no solution..I've tried many programs that are suppose to lock refresh rates but those dont seem to work...again my problem is I cant play a game at the refresh rate of 120 hz if it is below max res with the latest drivers or any driver containing i guess the stereo ones..Is anyone else having this problem ?

btw, You can tell immediately when you are not running at 120 hz, My monitor is the viewsonic one so i dont have an osd..
