(3DV) 'TOP 5' Series - Genre: HORROR/PSY-HORROR (Suggestion Thread)
1 / 2
Ok so, I just finished SOMA for the second time. That 'perfect storm' of a game has left me with a good size hole in my heart. It was SO good on so many levels - I actually have what I would term as:
'Post-Perfect Symmetrically Immersive Game Deprivation in the 3rd Dimension - Syndrome'
Or 'PPSIGD-3DS' for ... uh short, yeah (I'll work on that later).
In any case, having played the likes of:
SOMA
The 'Amnesia' Series
AI
The Walking Dead
Nightmare House 2
The FEAR series*
I was wondering what you all had, in your experience, kept your senses reeling and your heart beating, in the form of a 3D Horror Game/series that you would consider as 'Must Plays.'
The titles above serve as a reference to what I have played and enjoyed in said fashion, as well as my own entry to those of you that may be looking for a few suggestions as well.
Your entries don't have to be limited, either way, to 5 but please try to stay true to the genre!
Of course, it nearly goes without saying that 3D MUST BE IN A PLAYABLE condition! It doesn't have to be perfect, for example, there may be some 'Unity' Titles that aren't perfect, but the game/story/graphics help to overcome a few busted shadows/reflections. Use your judgment and I thank you for helping me to find a new 'distraction' to counteract this crazy ass world we live in!
~Nutz
EDIT:
*I should mention, for this thread's posterity, that while the first 2 FEAR games have been 'fixed' by the community, the 3rd (and final) game remains a mess and thusly 'VASTLY' unplayable in 3D.

A thread after my own dark little heart ... and just in time for Halloween. :)
Anything Silent Hill ... 2 is very playable/perfect?, 3 I got to render in 3D but things are broken and there's no way to fix them(DX8 iirc), never tried 4 on PC and Homecoming I'd like to one day get around to fixing ... if I ever get enough free time again.
Bioshock 1(Fix) and 2(Fix)
Dead Space 1(Fix), 2(Fix) and 3(Fix)
Outlast(Fix) ... decent atmosphere but overall I really didn't like it much.
Honorable Mentions:
Evil Dead: Regeneration, American McGee's Alice(Guide) and Alice: Madness Returns(Fix)

TriDef Ignition's FEAR 3 profile works pretty well in 3D - you may to try it.
Alan Wake is another potential game in this category. The Spider Lair, one part of Metro Last Light Developer Pack DLC, is short but intense, also.
Amnesia
SOMA
Alien Isolation
Outlast (this one scarred the crap out of me, I couldn't finish it).
..
I only put in the list survival horrors, if I have a gun is not horror anymore is fun with meat.
If I am to consider the ones with gun maybe should mention: Resident Evil Revelations 2, Dead Space Series, Doom 3 , Black OPS 1, 2 , hopefully 3 ZOMBIES.
@helifax My wife finished SOMA before I did :D

Even though most people here probably already played the older thief games, there are some excellent fan missions including some scary missions.
Almost all thief games are either at night or in a dark environment which adds some fear to all missions. Plus, the stories are often gloomy and mysterious.
Here are a few missions which are particularly scary.
Since most of you probably won't bother to play them, watch these walkthrough videos to see what you're missing. If you like what you see, then please try them, but don't watch too much or it will spoil the fun and fright.

The Secret World is a must play, I started almost a month ago and I'm having a blast. It's a no-subscription-required MMO set in the present day world but with a very dark Lovecraftian incursion. Now's a good time to hop in, too - they do their biggest events for Halloween, apparently.

Dead Space series is a MUST PLAY for this category....and with helix patch the game looks amazing (you have to disable lensflares in video options)...
There is an upcoming (next week) game called "The Park" that looks very interesting...

I've reinstalled it - thought it would be nice to see if it runs well on my new 980 TI..
I dont se any issues with convergence - it's unlocked and shaders are fine..

Regarding the lightshafts, I just hit the convergence button till lightshaft/lamp is alligned, and save.
I use 3 convergence presets, 1 for ingame, 1 for some closeups and 1 for map/menu/items.
I'm sure that you know this one, but i'll post it anyway

I've reinstalled it - thought it would be nice to see if it runs well on my new 980 TI..
I dont se any issues with convergence - it's unlocked and shaders are fine..

Regarding the lightshafts, I just hit the convergence button till lightshaft/lamp is alligned, and save.
I use 3 convergence presets, 1 for ingame, 1 for some closeups and 1 for map/menu/items.
I'm sure that you know this one, but i'll post it anyway
