Next year we'll see a huge boom in 3d/120hz lcd/dlp 1080p projectors and lcd tvs. Personally, I'm excited about Panasonic's upcoming PT-AE5000U. Their current AE4000U is awesome for a mid priced lcd projector. The 3d bluray standards have been set and Fermi cards should have the horspower to run 1920x1080 in 3d DX11 games. Also the HDMI 1.4 spec has been set as well to pass 1080p 120hz signals.

Hi,

I got the ACER H5360 projector yesterday (the second one in Finland?). I haven't really tested the 3D mode yet, but I briefly tested the picture quality. Brightness is good, contrast is ok, but...

The rainbow-effect is pretty severe, at least for me. I tried different image settings, but didn't really notice any difference. It's ok with images that don't have a lot of contrast/black. Maybe one will get used to it, maybe not. On the other hand, I bought this for the 3D, so we'll see how it'll work.

Is it worth the really cheap price? Yes. Would I double my budget to get rid of the rainbows? For sure.

tervetola rikun!
i found it a bit distracting at the start but i got used to it, i only see it occasionally now.
I have been using it for my 360 and ps3 too and the picture quality is very very good.
not alot of rainbow on KZ2.

if you want to see some wonderful 3d, try dungeon siege 2, the leaves and trees in the forest are outstanding.

Can anyone post a picture/video of the rainbow effect? Is the effect as worse in 3D as in 2D?

I got mine today and so far im loving it...

I dont see the rainbow effect much, especially when gaming, only really when contrasting screens are on, such as NFS Shift's startup where the background is pure black and theres 2 white lines.
Focusing on each line in succession gives me the rainbow effect. Doesn't bother, in fact in game, I don't see it at all...

Overall... all I can say is WOW ! This is really cool ...

The DLP 'Rainbow Effect' (or RBE) is an artifact unique to single-chip DLP projectors. The artifact appears as a rainbow or multi-color shimmer briefly noticeable when changing focus from one part of the screen to another. It appears as a secondary image that appears at the viewer's peripheral vision and is generally noticeable when shifting focus from a high contrast area or bright object. For a quick video example of the effect,

ftp://ftp.extremetech.com/pub/extremetech...RainbowClip.wmv

(warning: 5MB video).

Higher color wheel speeds, LED lamp systems, 7+ segment color wheels, and archimedes color wheel designs (pending for years now) are designed to minimize or altogether eliminate the effect. 3-chip DLP systems do not have any RBE because they do not require a color wheel. Ti, however, seems to think that DLP chips are worth more than gold and so, for now, 3-chip DLP projectors cost about 10x the price of entry level 3LCD projectors. Perhaps someday soon they will loosen their grip on the market and the color wheel can finally die the quick but painful death it deserves.

The RBE effect overall is highly over exaggerated, although it is percieved different in everyone, I have yet to meet someone who even really notices it who does not know of the problem to begin with and is looking for it. I don't think anyone should think twice really over the purchase of the current 3D projectors out due to RBE, regardless of the intesnisty of the RBE you see, the size and 3D alone will leave you with a smile on your face

The link to the video clip does not work. /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I would be sitting quite close to the image as I only want approx 2m width. Would I be able to position the PJ to the side of my position and turn the projector inwards to have the screen centre to my vision. I am thinking it may work above me but the keystone correction may not be up to it. Any ideas, owners?

I plan on having the projector behind me, over my head. I plan on having the image/projection 2 meters from the beamer, with the equal size of about a 50 inch tv. I plan on sitting about 75 cm to one meter from the image/projection. Is that realisric?

That's exactly what I require. Owners, is this possible to acheive? Thanks in advance.

Im still experimenting with mine... Heres what I have so far

All are approximate, give or take a few cm's

Projector Position -
77" (196cm) from floor
118" (300cm) away from wall (screen).

Projected image is :
bottom edge, approx 18" (46cm) from floor
top edge and 58" (117cm) from floor.

Overall Diag Size is 80" (204cm)
70" (179cm) wide

Seating position
55" (140cm) away from screen.

I dont think its going to be realistic to have the projector at your side, so to speak, pointing inwards, the keystone adjustment only lets you adjust based on the height of the projector / vertical direction.

Just to add to this... Since its not actually mounted properly yet...
I just moved it so it was 2m away from the wall, at a height of almost 2 meters, the keystone adjusted perfectly.. That was having the projected image at a similar level off the floor to how I have it above
since I'm using it with a play seat, I want the screen at a fairly low level.

Hope this helps...

Thank you for your measurements. Good to hear the keystone works well.

Well most people don't even see the RBE, I've read around 5% of people being affected by it...

However, if you happen to fit in that 5%, you really should test the projector before buying. I think I'll keep mine and hope my brain will start to "compensate" for the RBE, also people have mentioned that it may go away when the projector has been used a while. Also running it at 120Hz might help IF the color wheel will spin faster (which I doubt).

Some people have also mentioned that you can't see the RBE with games, but you can see it with movies. I haven't tested any games yet, only movies.

Bear in mind I also see some RBE in the movie theater where they project the commercials with video projector. And I didn't even know they were using DLP before seeing the effect..
