I'm sorry, yes I meant Asus in the second sentence. Check out the 3d vision blog review of the Asus display and make sure that you read the comments. Bloody (the reviewer) says that its only a little better than the Planar with ghosting. So, its not gone. I have to admit that the lightboost sounds like a huge plus though. As is the Planar isn't anywhere near as dark as your GD235hz but it could still stand to be a little brighter. I also don't think that I could justify spending $700 on a display.

- Anti-Reflective Coating: It will make them ALOT more expensive, but it will result in a brighter, more vivid image. The price will most likely increase by at least 100 Dollars.
- Polarized Lenses: Some people prefer Active 3D while others prefer Passive 3D. Why not give them glasses that work for both (with 120 Hz displays and with Passive 3D Displays)? I say the customers will love it. The price will only increase by about 30 Dollars.

I got most of these ideas from an old article I found. The page was ripped from some magazine. I forgot which one it was.
If the timings + delays were adjustable as well as video settings instead of locked profiles, users could reduce ghosting to more acceptable limits themselves on some of these displays.

The reason I thought an Anti-Reflective Coating would be so expensive was because every product I see that uses the coating is at least a couple hundred dollars more expensive than a similiar product without the coating.

The reason I thought an Anti-Reflective Coating would be so expensive was because every product I see that uses the coating is at least a couple hundred dollars more expensive than a similiar product without the coating.

Currently there is no technology for curved lenses in active shutter glasses, but I agree it would be nice.

Currently there is no technology for curved lenses in active shutter glasses, but I agree it would be nice.
yay.. i just ordered asus vg278h. i will receive it in few days so i will let you guys know how this one works compared to my current acer hn274h. too bad, i might have to end up selling acer hn274h when i receive my new monitor. it's a shame.. really.. i only had acer hn274h for a few months and it's still practically new.. i paid $670 for it and i am losing about $170 here when i resell it. paying $170 for few months of use is not cool. not cool at all. sigh.. on the other hand, if asus vg278h don't have significant improvement over acer hn274h, i will be mad. i expect the improvement is huge coz acer hn274h's 2d, 3d performance was pretty good.

I actually did the upgrade from the Acer (with no 3D LightBoost) to the ASUS (with 3D LightBoost). I got so used to 3D mode being darker that the 3D LightBoost mode still amazes me that its so much brighter. You almost don't even perceive 3D turning on since the ambient light is so good.

i see. i have another question though. I have toshiba x775-3dv78 notebook computer that has 3d vision supported. It came with 3d vision 1 glass but according to source, 3d vision 2 supported on toshiba x775 notebook. The thing I am wondering is, will 3d vision 2 with lightboost technology work on my notebook as well if I just used 3d vision 2 glasses on it? I see toshiba released updated version of this laptop which is x775-3dv80 that comes with 3d vision 2 glasses. When they said toshiba x775 supports 3d vision 2 lightboost technology, did they mean only this new 3dv80 version support it or 3dv78 model also support it?

I was finally able to get my order in on the new Asus at Newegg before it went out of stock again. I can't wait to get it next week to put it through it's paces. Since it will be a lot brighter than my current Alienware, my plan is to drop back the contrast some from the default settings to eliminate even more of the crosstalk while still having a brighter image than I am used to now.

Will the lenses on the 3D Vision 2 glasses work well with DLP projectors? I was very disappointed to discover that my 3D Vision Wired Glasses work poorly with my new H5360 projector. The glasses worked alright with my old CRT monitor despite the ghosting inherent with CRTs, but with the projector they create a reddish-purple discoloration within all grey or darker areas of the screen. The red discoloration seems to be due to the glasses, since I can only see it with the glasses on; the picture is colored perfectly when viewing the screen with the glasses off. I've tried all kinds of color adjustment within the nVidia drivers and projector OSD, but nothing removes the red discoloration.

Not wanting to argue or anything (I own the ACER). However, although Nvidia licenses tech to ACER, they ultimately do not make the ACER monitor themselves. If they had released info about lightboost early, it most certainly would have damaged ACER's sales severally, possibly even resulting in ACER taking legal action against them.
So, although it certainly sucks to have an obsolete monitor, I can see why Nvidia couldn't make the announcement early.

Has anyone else seen this issue on their new Asus or any other 3D Vision monitor? I've tried the latest betas and WHQL drivers and even went so far as to reinstall Win7 x64 in an effort to take that out of the equation. Could it be a faulty monitor? The bleeding is bad enough that I'm going to be looking to get an exchange because of that alone, but I'd like to know if anyone else has seen this before and if/how they fixed it. I'm running 2x eVGA GTX 570s on a P55-GD65 mobo.

You can't tell me that an anti-reflective coating would increase the price of the glasses by much. I can buy a pair of prescription glasses from zenni optical with an anti-reflective coating for $25.

Seriously, curved lenses would make a big difference. Yes, the new glasses have larger lenses but your usable fov isn't any larger since you see severe ghosting at the same angles. I actually had a larger fov with my old wired glasses than I do with the 3d vision 2 glasses, the reflections don't help.

The reason I thought an Anti-Reflective Coating would be so expensive was because every product I see that uses the coating is at least a couple hundred dollars more expensive than a similiar product without the coating.

Currently there is no technology for curved lenses in active shutter glasses, but I agree it would be nice.

yay.. i just ordered asus vg278h. i will receive it in few days so i will let you guys know how this one works compared to my current acer hn274h. too bad, i might have to end up selling acer hn274h when i receive my new monitor. it's a shame.. really.. i only had acer hn274h for a few months and it's still practically new.. i paid $670 for it and i am losing about $170 here when i resell it. paying $170 for few months of use is not cool. not cool at all. sigh.. on the other hand, if asus vg278h don't have significant improvement over acer hn274h, i will be mad. i expect the improvement is huge coz acer hn274h's 2d, 3d performance was pretty good.

I actually did the upgrade from the Acer (with no 3D LightBoost) to the ASUS (with 3D LightBoost). I got so used to 3D mode being darker that the 3D LightBoost mode still amazes me that its so much brighter. You almost don't even perceive 3D turning on since the ambient light is so good.
You will be happy, its awesome.

I'm debating which new glasses to purchase now. Should I get DLP-Link glasses, or try the new 3D Version 2 glasses? I'm leaning towards trying the 3D Vision2s for the better fit with headphones. And I'd need to have an emitter or my old wired glasses connected to my PC anyway for 3D Vision to function with DLP-Link glasses.

If I had a 3d vision monitor for the past year or so, I would probably look at this with some excitement. But, all of us who bought the 27" Acer monitor have had those monitors for a very short period of time, the 1st 27" and still only 27" 3d vision monitor available for purchase. If I had bought a GTX 580 at launch (which I did) I would expect it not to be replaced in 3 months by a major revision, not a tweak, but a major revision. With the release of the Asus 27" no one will buy the Acer model, why would they as it has been made obsolete after a couple of months, thus crippled. No offense, but if it was your $700, you would be singing a different tune. The fact is Nvidia intentionally did not disclose that a new version of 3d vision was in the works, purely because they did not want buyers deferring thier purchases, the actions of a company more interested in short term profit. Nvidia knew they were screwing us Acer 27" buyers, but there just is not enough of us for them to care about.

Not wanting to argue or anything (I own the ACER). However, although Nvidia licenses tech to ACER, they ultimately do not make the ACER monitor themselves. If they had released info about lightboost early, it most certainly would have damaged ACER's sales severally, possibly even resulting in ACER taking legal action against them.
So, although it certainly sucks to have an obsolete monitor, I can see why Nvidia couldn't make the announcement early.

I've been using the new Asus vg278h this weekend and aside from the terrible backlight bleeding that extends across the middle of the screen, I've been getting this distorted image about half of the times that I enter 3D mode. Has anyone else seen this issue on their new Asus or any other 3D Vision monitor? I've tried the latest betas and WHQL drivers and even went so far as to reinstall Win7 x64 in an effort to take that out of the equation. Could it be a faulty monitor? The bleeding is bad enough that I'm going to be looking to get an exchange because of that alone, but I'd like to know if anyone else has seen this before and if/how they fixed it. I'm running 2x eVGA GTX 570s on a P55-GD65 mobo.
