Best 3DTV for checkerboard support

As the title suggests I'm wondering what is the best consumer 3D enabled TV that supports checkerboard on the market today. What are ya'll using? I'm struggling to find information as to if there is a better tv I can purchase than my current 2010 Samsung PN58C7000. For the record I do not at all, ever, intend to use Side by Side or Top Bottom methods. My TV I think does a pretty good job BUT it also has the pink artifacting problem that seems to be a bit of a problem with sammys with regards to screens with light/white dominant images)... that's why I'm looking at alternatives. Given how much has changed in the GPU market in the last 3 years I find it hard to believe that a better checkerboard capable TV has not yet been produced than my aging sammy... I mean is there not an LED 3DTV that is better than my Plasma?

Given how much has changed in the GPU market in the last 3 years I find it hard to believe that a better checkerboard capable TV has not yet been produced than my aging sammy...

I mean is there not an LED 3DTV that is better than my Plasma?

im not really sure what you mean by pink artifacting, i dont have any complaints about my UA65ES8000M. the problem i have with the ES8000 series in australia is the cost! way too expensive. very happy with my TV but surely there are other models/brands that can do 3D, checkerboard, FS, motion smooth etc for heaps less? I too struggled to find info on any tv that could do 3D well.

I honestly gave up on Checkerboard 3D gaming as well. I have a Samsung 8 series 3D led tv and the checkerboard 3D support is mediocre at best Also many companies ditched the checkerboard method in their TVs because it is becoming an outdated 3D method. Even newer Samsung TVs do not support checkerboard as far as I know.

Man this thread is depressing. I have a 2009/2010 Mitsubishi 65" DLP which natively only supports checkerboard. The fact that 2-3 years later 3DTVs haven't improved much in terms of affordability and or features baffles me. And now that Mitsubishi has backed out of making DLPs altogether it's looking very bleak. I was really hoping to eventually upgrade to something in the 73-82" range for the <$1000 that I paid for the 65".

The Samsung ES7500 and 7100 models are cheaper and support checkerboard. I have a 55ES7500 and it does a good job on 3D up to 60-70% depth in most games. When I go higher, things in the foreground bug my eyes if I'm trying to concentrate on something in the background.

in my opinion checkerboard is a good alternative to 1080P@24hz if u want to play at that resolution, its still not the best solution for HDMI , as far as i remember Nvidia used to support 1080P@30hz which is playable compared to the lame 1080p@24hz and still give you full resolution per eye. well i have the 55es7500 as well and i have no problems playing at 100% depth in all games. but what REALLY SUCKS is that if i want to get the checkerboard mode i have to choose (PC mode) as the input source name , and for some stupid reason samsung disabled 99% of the picture calibration settings at that mode which leaves me with a picture quality way less than normal HDMI input mode , and add to that the resolution of 960*1080p per eye for checkerboard.........

I've been playing Tomb Raider and when Lara is in the sunlight and in certain areas, crosstalk is pretty noticable. Some games, it's barely there I suppose.

You don't find that your TV's crosstalk ramps up at 100%? What settings do you use for 3D checkerboad on the TV? I've been looking for good white balance settings. I think the reason you don't get the calibration settings is a deliberate attempt to cut down on signal processing and reduce input lag. It's not a case of Nvidia giving us back 1080p@30Hz. I don't think it was ever available in 3dtv play and in fact I don't think it's part of the standard HDMI modes either. The bandwidth is there, but the only way I ever saw it was in frame sequential mode using rollermod. Hopefully HDMI 2 will be on the way soon. That's the real answer and it's so overdue.

Amd has 1080p 30hz on their cards, I don't think nvidia has ever supported it but it can be done.

I have the ES7500 now, since it got just as good and better marks for 3D in quite a few reviews. I really like it and for anyone that uses a 27" or smaller monitor, please do yourself a favor and try a 3DTV out. The motion is great, a huge step up from my Sony NX711 from 2010 and panning around is buttery smooth, ie, you can keep your eye on something while panning fairly fast, like in real life. Because the ES6500 also got better marks in some categories than both the ES7500 and ES800, i went with that first since it was a pure computer monitor, and thanks to a helpful Best Buy employee who after being asked over the phone to please check on the ES6500 menu to see if it supported CB, said "yup, it definitely does, absolutely". So i had the ES6500 first, which was just as smooth if not smoother in motion, again, making it look like you were panning a viewport of reality around, rather than a screen. Now heres one thing i'd like everyone to know about. When i got the ES6500, i was amazing at the "fill factor" of the pixels, ie, i could hardly see any pixels and honestly the screen looked like high resolution screen because of it. Said another way, a lack of the "screen door" effect. I was quite amazed; seriously impressed. Due to the Samsung "chicken foot" like stand, i had to actually have it much closer than than my NX711 too, about 5" or 10cm, and despite even that, i could hardly make out the pixels. It a really huge difference that i encourage everyone using a 3DTV to start taking note of. No longer are the square pixels easily discernible. Huge difference. I went to a Sony store recently and ONLY the HX950 has a smaller set of pixels. The rest (HX850, 750, etc) had huge, obvious pixels. The ES7500 has similar sized pixels to the ES6500, but it seems they are not quite as "full", or their borders understated. Some of this i think has to do with the technology they use limiting light bleed into other pixels. The ES6500 may not have as much of that "feature" than other TVs. That said, I will ALWAYS, FROM NOW ON look out for TV's with the aforementioned high pixel "fill factor".

I have a 2011 Samsung D7000 and with the recent CB support update from Nvidia it's a very solid solution for 1080cb @60FPS. I still prefer my Asus VG278H for 3D but the D7000 is a nice alternative for lazy console-like gaming with a 360 controller. Biggest pluses about the D7000 is very little input lag, can't achieve as much depth without reg hacks (too bothersome to switch it though), but I can still see the CB artifacting, particularly on edges and very clean surfaces or uniform gradient textures. For those wondering why you lose so many video options, it's most likely because PC mode bypasses the TV's video processing components, which invariably introduces input lag. I personally feel low input lag is one of the key strengths of PC/throughput mode on any HDTV. As for long-term 3D prospects. I don't think we will see a solution to please the masses until 4Kx2K screens are abundant that allow for higher bandwidth standards. Then HDTVs should be able to do 4Kx2K in 2D and 1080p@60Hz in S3D and remain within HDMI spec as that's roughly equivalent bandwidth requirements. Downside of course is the new wave of 4K TVs will probably cost $5K+ and once that becomes the de facto standard, people will be clamoring for 4Kx2K in S3D @ 60FPS. Just a vicious cycle, S3D's 2x rendering requirements will always put it behind the 8-ball.

I just played Dragon Age Origins after selecting Checkerboard, and boom - the game is in 3D at 60 htz!!! Except that i have an LED Sharp 3DTV, and the glasses don't seem to work... Does anyone know if i can still view the checkerboard with my Sharp AN-3DG20 active shutter glasses? The only way i can get the TV to switch to 3D is by using 3DTV play which is non-responsive at 24 htz in a combat game. RPGs are not that bad, but the combat scenes in ME2 are impossible at 24 htz, no matter what i do... CAN ANYONE UNLOCK THE CHECKERBOARD 3D HEAVEN FOR ME?
