3D Vision looks 10 times better in picture than in game
Hi,
Basically the issue I'm having is that my 3d vision in game looks subpar, slightly blurry and just not right. Meanwhile 3d pictures look fantastic.
One example is this 3d picture of path of exile:
http://3dmedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1594&pid=16069#top_display_media
Meanwhile if I play the game with 3d vision enabled, it almost looks like the picture above if you right click on it and select 'swap eyes', where the focus and whatnot seems off.
I have tried modifying the convergence which allows text and HUD to be readable, but does not change the subpar 3d effect. I have also messed with the depth but no matter what I do its still not right.
I have the latest nvidia drivers and brand new 3d vision 2 glasses, with a benq XL2420TE. Currently running sli gtx 970s and have tried running in single card mode.
What the heck am I missing? Why does my 3d look nowhere near as good as the picture linked above?
I hope anyone has some suggestions, thanks!

- Running at 1920 * 1080 (native screen res) and 120hz.
- I tried upside down but all it seemed to do was make things look more 2d.
- I have currently tried Metro 2033, Portal 2, Guild Wars 2, Call of Duty 4 and a few others. None of them have been 'clear' looking so far.
I thought that maybe it was something to do with viewing distance, but rolling back in my chair until the screen takes a proportionally equivalent amount of viewing space as the website images above did not help.
The best way I could explain the issue is that I can't get the screen to be 'clear', if my depth is anything above 10% things start to become a bit 'blurry', regardless of if I adjust the convergence. Objects that are 3 dimensional closer and further are blurry, nothing is crisp it's always just out of focus and wrong.
Everything looks perfect in the test stereoscopic view utility in the Nvidia Control Panel, and in the images linked above. They are absolutely clear and look fantastic.
I appreciate the help.

There's a bit of personal preference, but the way I usually adjust depth and convergence is to set depth to 100% and then hold cntl + F6 to bring the convergence of the closest on-screen object to screen depth with the glasses OFF (i.e. the two images for the closest on-screen object appear together / in 2d when the glasses are off). Then I either move the picture further into the screen (cntl + F5) or adjust for a bit more popout (cntl + F6) depending on the particular game. Just as a base point for setting up your depth / conv.
Are you running the games in compatibility mode or real 3d? The green nvidia text in the lower right corner when you start a game will tell you if it's in compatibility mode (which is bad).

Have you tried taking screenshots(Alt+F1) and then viewing them? I've had issues before that weren't showing up in the screenshots and needed a clean Driver reinstall. Might be worth trying anyway, maybe even using DDU. Other than that maybe crosstalk, although you'd probably see that in screenshots as well.

Also, try taking a photo through the lens. Cell phone camera is OK. I don't exactly understand what you mean by 'blurry', and generally speaking if you can view the test images you can view the game the same.

Hi guys, as suggested some pics:
Picture 1 when the convergence is set so that close objects arent a blur:
http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba401e7e564e8740000d3/
As you can see the text now gives you a headache and things still seem off.
Picture 2 is when the convergence is set so that the text is readable:
http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba49de7e564b2020000bf/
Now closer to the screen objects are hard to focus on.
Pictures 3, 4 and 5 are just raising and lowering the convergence to make different parts clear:
http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba416e7e564053b00004f/

http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba43ce7e564a2130000af/
Picture 5 is about as close as I can get to having an overall 'clear' image.
Now compare it to:
http://3dmedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1594&pid=16069#top_display_media
You can see my in game screenshots are weirdly off focus in areas and frankly give me a headache. Please note that the website I used to host has slightly higher compression so the text in the image is not 'as' crisp, but it still shows the 'unfocused' image I'm getting. My pictures are as clear as the picture get when messing with convergence. I have tried my glasses upside down so its not just the eyes reversed. It does not say I'm in compatibility mode in the normal bottom-right popup on launch, and my drivers are up to date.
I hope you guys can see my problem where I can only have either distance, midrange or close objects 'focused' / 'clear', unlike the other person screenshot where every distance is clear.
This happens in every game, not just Path of Exile. I just happen to have screenshots of what it is meant to look like for comparison. Also I have the same issues if I set the depth to around 30% as opposed to the current 75%.
Thanks for the help so far guys, greatly appreciated.
Edit:
When you look at his images vs mine without 3D glasses you can see that his seemingly has less convergence on images that are closer to the screen, meanwhile distant images / objects have increasingly bigger spacing between their mirrored counterpart for each eye. Meanwhile my close objects seemingly have the same mirrored gap as distant ones.
I feel as if I'm on the wrong 3D mode or something.

Do you wear glasses or contacts? Looking at the two images in 2D mode, the text visibility is identical. That makes me think that adjusting the depth is making it more blurry for your because your eyes have troubles focusing on either further, or closer objects. The other option is that the text is difficult to read because all the text is at screen depth, and some of the terrain behind it is pop-out depth, giving your brain a mixed message of "This text should be further out than the terrain, but the terrain is popping through the text." which always gives an uncomfortable feeling because it's unnatural.
I recommend testing both. See if squinting your eyes makes it a bit less blurry. It's not 100% but that can sometimes help when your eyes aren't great. If it is text overlap issues, then I'd say try turning up the depth and setting the closest convergence to screen depth. That'll at least give you a lot of in screen depth, and ensure nothing pops through the text.

to OP:
Are you sure you aren't trying to play with Compatibility Mode by default? This could cause "blurring" of images close to the screen with higher depth. Try this (instructions copied from elsewhere):
1) Make sure that "Enable advanced in-game settings" is enabled in the NVIDIA control panel under Set Up Stereoscopic 3D -> Set keyboard shortcuts.
2) Launch the game.
3) Disable compatibility mode with Ctrl+Alt+F11 (check the green text to confirm that it is disabled - you should only need to do this once).

The pictures look completely normal to me. You just need to train your eyes to focus on the various depths within any given scene. Just like real life, if you look at something that is in front of your nose, things in the distance will appear double. Similarly, placing an object close to your face while focusing on something in the distance will make the close object look doubled. The scene has various depths, you can't focus on them all at once, just like in real life. On-screen text is a common 'problem' in that it is usually rendered at screen depth. Lower your depth value, and gradually increase it over time.
edit: the PoE pics at the end look a bit jacked up ("now compare to") but all the previous ones look correct.

Actually, if I do swap eyes on the last picture that is jacked up for me it looks normal. I think you need to go through the 3D setup wizard again and ensure you selected the correct eyes where it makes you choose the green triangle or blue square depending on the eye. Do the first set of pics that are jacked up for you look normal if you do 'swap eyes' on them?

I think what best illustrates my point is how for this album

The text appears to be just above the ground and is easily readable, as well as close objects being crisp.
Meanwhile for my second screenshot where I get the text to be 'just above the ground' like in the screenshot above, close objects are extremely hard to focus on

We clearly have similar convergence as you can tell by the depth of the text, but the pole in front of the screen in my picture is extremely hard to focus on despite not having as much depth as the second picture on the other dudes album where he has a bar sticking right out at the screen (http://3dmedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1594&pid=16068#top_display_media)

What driver are you using?
BTW What connection type and Operating system are you using?
CM was introduced with driver 334.67B.
The first thing you should try is DDU (Direct Driver Uninstaller), you can download it from Guru3D or from Wagnard tools. For awhile now, Driver installation has been problematic and often results in glitches if not installed in Safe Mode.
Try unplugging your monitor for a few minutes to reset it and see if it might help.
It's possible that if you are seeing problems while we are not, that you have a bad cable or monitor.
Have you read Amazon/Newegg reviews to see if anyone mentioned a similar problem?
The reason everyone thinks that it's CM, is because Compatibility Mode is a "fake" 3D. They second image is generated using algorithms that somewhat guess the offset required for each object if a depth queue isn't known. If Convergence or Depth, is increased/decreased very much, they image tends to distort.

Two differences I'm seeing between the example and yours:
1. Example's eyes are swapped (it is Left|Right, yours are Right|Left), but you've already indicated that isn't the issue (Ctrl+W to swap eyes in NVIDIA 3D Vision photo viewer if you wanted to double check).
2. Example has a *much* lower separation set (or alternatively may have been taken on a larger screen*). Displaying it on my 17" monitor I'm only seeing a maximum depth of a few inches, compared to your screenshots that easily are 20cm or more deep and pop out 10cm or so.
Have you tried lowering the separation?
* Stereo screenshots should ideally be displayed on a monitor that is exactly the same size as the original (and ideally the viewers eyes would be exactly the same distance apart and they would be sat in exactly the same position as the original viewer). If the monitor is smaller than the original the depth will scale down, if the monitor is larger the depth will scale up and can even go beyond infinity and become uncomfortable/impossible to see.

-Try putting the glasses on upside-down, to see if the eyes are reversed
-Do other games have similar issues?
Are you running the games in compatibility mode or real 3d? The green nvidia text in the lower right corner when you start a game will tell you if it's in compatibility mode (which is bad).

Picture 1 when the convergence is set so that close objects arent a blur:
http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba401e7e564e8740000d3/
As you can see the text now gives you a headache and things still seem off.
Picture 2 is when the convergence is set so that the text is readable:
http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba49de7e564b2020000bf/
Now closer to the screen objects are hard to focus on.
Pictures 3, 4 and 5 are just raising and lowering the convergence to make different parts clear:

http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba43ce7e564a2130000af/

Does it look good to you, or blurry like your images?

GTX 980 SLI | i7 3770K @ 4.2 GHz | 16 GB RAM
3x ASUS VG248QE w/ G-SYNC

Looks perfectly fine for me.
But for me the screnshot album I compare mine to I have no difficulties at all with :( But to answer your question no I do not have a sight impairment.
I think what best illustrates my point is how for this album
http://3dmedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1594&pid=16069#top_display_media
The text appears to be just above the ground and is easily readable, as well as close objects being crisp.
Meanwhile for my second screenshot where I get the text to be 'just above the ground' like in the screenshot above, close objects are extremely hard to focus on
http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/govjmal/image/559ba49de7e564b2020000bf/
We clearly have similar convergence as you can tell by the depth of the text, but the pole in front of the screen in my picture is extremely hard to focus on despite not having as much depth as the second picture on the other dudes album where he has a bar sticking right out at the screen (http://3dmedia.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1594&pid=16068#top_display_media)
Ctrl + Alt + f11 / Toggle compatibility mode doesnt do anything for me, even if I rebind it... Nothing visually changes and nothing shows in the corner, is that not meant to be the case? All the other advanced shortcuts work fine.
I have tried selecting the other options to see what would happen and nothing changed :(
Sorry for the wall of text guys, thanks for the help again.
BTW What connection type and Operating system are you using?
