3d best depth?
  1 / 2
what is the best 3d depth to set it at in the control panel. so you get good 3d but at the same time dont strain your eyes what do you recomand. The default is 15%, I set mine to 30% but then I just got it hence asking this question?

cheers /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

PS I asked a question in the call of duty WAW thread about player names not show and how to get them back is there an answer to that?
PSS nvidia recomand turning off 2 setting I cant remember off the top of head what they were but I remember that they were not in the game options how do i get to them, i think it was glow and LOD or something like that?

Depth is really subjective. I personally play at 30-35% which is comfortable to me.

You will find that as you scale up in physical size of the display (like a DLP or projector) you will also be turning up the depth.

I answered your questions about the players names in WaW, driver bug, being fixed.

Regarding the two settings, I think they are called something else in World at War (the settings were for Call of Duty 4).

I'm changing the depth according to the game I play, because different level of depth gives different results in each game. There are games that are only playable and look good (without ghosting and/or other problems), in others can go for up to 50% with great results and in some I can even go to the maximum after some time at 30-50% in order for my eyes and brain to adjust. I've noticed that if you increase the depth a few times starting with a lower value after a few minutes of play you can go to much higher level of depth, a level that you can't go directly at, because your eyes and brain can't adjust so quickly at maximum level, but can do that in just a few steps. Otherwise 20-30% depth is Ok for me most of the time to switch directly into when starting a game and sometimes I increase it a bit later on, sometimes I don't... it depends on the game again... ;)

Except that a movie or game specifically designed for 3D will probably have a concept of a specified or right depth perception. Will games be able to over-ride the user chosen setting?

Just come comments on depth.

Movie and picture "depth" is hard coded into the image or movie when its created since the author of that content had to decide on the separation of the two cameras in the scene. As a user, you cannot incresae the "depth" (separation) but you can adjust convergence which is different. Convergence can help add some "pop-out" effect for the game, but doesnt necessarily increase depth.

3D games are different in that depth can be dynamically controlled in real-time since the 3D data is being processed by the GPU. As a user you can easily adjusts the depth using the 3D Vision Emitter depth wheel (on the back) or pressing CTRL-F3 or F4.

I have recently tryed messing with convergence can you tell me do you increase or decrease it to get more pop out and 3d depth, is there anything to avoid (meaning setting to high or low, if you put it to low will it take the 3d off)?

cheers, so the more you decrease convergence the more pop out you get but you loose depth and the more you increase convergence the more depth you get but less pop out?

Is there a way to reset a game back to the defaults that Nvidia gave it if you have messed with the convergence?

You have it in reverse. The more you increase convergence (CTRL-F6), the more pop-out you get, the more you decrease convergence (CTRL-F5), the less pop-out you get. However, it's better to use visual cues as described in the guide so you don't go over the top and ruin the S-3D effect. Think of "separation" as your depth budget, and "convergence" as how much of that depth budget you want inside and outside the screen.

Unless you press CTRL-F7 to save your profile (overwrite the existing profile), the original will always be available to you. Once overwritten, I don't think there is a way to revert to default without reinstalling the driver. However, there is nothing to screw up! Just take your glasses off when making game adjustments, and will will all be clear. :magic:

Although keep in mind, if you're sitting at the back of a theater during a 3D movie, the depth will appear greater than if you were sitting in the front. This can also be observed when playing video games in 3D just by moving your chair back.

And to add my comment about in-game depth, I usually play between 110% to 130% depth (~60% depth after the MonitorSize registry value is set to 16h).

If you open up regedit and goto;

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs] for x86 windows

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs] for x64 windows

you will find a bunch of subkeys named after the exe of the game with the custom profile that you saved with ctrl-f7. Delete the relative subkey and all shall be well.

I'm not sure this is a good idea. Some profiles are customized with optimizations for the game - could make things worse by doing this. /bloated.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':X' />
