Hi yeshna12,

Unfortunately nvidia discontinued their CRT/shutterglass stereo support for cards beyond the 7000 series. I have a system that uses a 7900GT and CRT, but that option is not available to you. The way things are going now is with LCD monitors, Zalman and iZ3D make some, maybe others. Also there are the VR920 head tracking VR goggles that don't use an external monitor since they have little LCD screens for each eye.

I haven't used any of these systems, I'm reading up about them now since at some stage I'd like to update (thought I'm pretty happy with my current old 7900GT rig and eDimensional glasses.) Best not to be naive and assume they all work as advertised, because things like this rarely do, they always have glitches or idiosyncracies. Read up on them in the various forums and work out which system sounds like the one you can live with. Also check if each system is compatible with the particular games you want to play, some won't run some games, for instance Zalman and iZ3D don't work with Doom3 or other new Id games AFAIK.

As well as reading this message board you might want to look at http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/index.php as well.

And no, your friend doesn't need to be using a stereoscopic system if he's playing against you on another computer. If you are running a game in stereo it doesn't make any difference to him. (Unless maybe your game is a special verion designed for your 3D system, I hear the VR920 has as special version of Doom 3. I'm not sure in that case.)

Hi tried the 3d gaming its quite good. Initially there were some kind delay. XFX support guys recommended me to upgrade my memory to 2GB. now its working fine. Nvidia has really done an excellent job. Thanks for your reply too sir. The 3d in anaglyph mode is recommended by nvidia. Its fine for starters I hope we can expect several advancement in new nvidia cards in the future perhaps it will take a 2 - 5 years. But i really appreciate the current move by microsoft and nvidia for taking the initial step in virtual reality gaming.

For checking up whether your grpahics card is worth enough for 3d gaming.
1. Right click "Computer"
2. Choose "properties" in the tab
3. Just Under the "System" bar there is detail called "Rating : XX Windows Experience index"
4. Left Click on the function "Windows Experience Index"
5. A new tab would open displaying "Performance and Information Tools"
6. If your computer is unrated then please rate it.
7. Check for the Details "Gaming graphics : 3D business and gaming graphics" ceckout the subscore for it.
8. If the subscore is 5 and above then your system can be a perfect for 3d gaming go ahead.
9. The current recommendation is the CRT monitor anaglyph mode for 3d Gaming by nvidia.
10. If you have LCD and other HD displays no problem they are making up for it.
11. Some say that dual display can be good too. But for late night gamers like me its actually not recommended by opticians because it causes giddiness(the author is a victim of it(it happend yesterday)).
12. Update to recent nvidia driver, nvidia driver can be downloaded from the nvidia driver widget(in nvidia.com).

Recommended System for 3d gaming
Specs.
Processor : Intel or AMD processor( more than 1.6 GHz(based on the game requirement)) Please dont go for celeron or atom models since they have limitations on RAM capacity)
Motherboard : Any upto 4GB supporting mobo
RAM : 2 GB recommended but will also work in 1 GB for smooth play choose 2 - 4GB. Dont go more than 4GB cause nvidia drivers work only on 32bit OS which supports only upto 4GB RAM.
Video Card : Dx10 based video card(choose 8500 GT and above)
Recommended OS : Vista Ultimate/Business/Home premium ->> 32 bit only.(Vista ulitimate 32bit recommended)

Thank You MK ULTRA.
