Can any notebook run 3D Vision if I connect it to a 3D Vision monitor ?!
  1 / 2
Hi there, My notebook is "MSI GT70-2OC" http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-2OC.html It has "GTX 770M 3GB" and it doesn't support 3D I guess because of the monitor is 60hz and non-3D. And when I install any driver it doesn't show me the driver & the controller of 3D Vision as in the picture : My question is if I connect my notebook to any 3D Vision monitor like "ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q" is the 3D Vision is going to work then ? and when I reinstall the driver will I see the driver/controller of 3D Vision ?! Please don't reply unless if you are 100% sure of the answer or if you tested it before.

Just plug your 120Hz monitor to your PC and install again. It will be there.

That's something that non of us can answer for you. But we can tell you how to find out if it can. What you need to find out, is if you have any video output connections that are connected to the Nvidia GPU. Look at the 4th picture in this tutorial https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/571045/?comment=3883815 It shows the PhysX tab of the NVCP, if there are no connectors shown above the NVidia GPU you are out of luck.

Does that mean I can use the 3D Vision monitor using the HDMI cable v2.0 or v1.4 with no problems ? And thanks a lot :)

Umm no, there currently are not any 3D Vision certified monitors that work via a HDMI connection. Via HDMI you can use a HDMI 1.4 certified 3D HDTV/Projector by purchasing 3DTV Play. Or you can use a certified projector by purchasing an Nvidia Emitter and Glasses. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-overview.html http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-displays.html

No there are not lots. One or two 3D Vision monitors with internal emitters thatcan be used via a HDMI connection for use with games that have native stereoscopic support, provided they output the necessary format. But there is not any "3D Vision Certified Monitors" that uses Nvidia's Stereoscopic Drivers via a HDMI connection.

Listen to D-Man on this one, there are no 3D Vision monitors that will work over HDMI. There are plenty that /have/ a HDMI port, but they can only do 60hz 2D over HDMI. For a laptop, you are limited to connecting it to a 3DTV or projector, as D-Man says. You'll also need to purchase a license for 3D TV Play, and you'll be restricted to 1080p at 24hz (which looks bad), or 720p at 60hz (which looks okay, and excellent on a projector).

Wait, I missed something. Did you say you have a display port that is connected to your nvidia GPU? Because that should actually work, if you follow the guide D-Man linked above. However the ROG Swift will perform very poorly with that GPU, I would suggest getting a 1080p monitor. Your GPU will not run games well in 3D at 1440p. As for G-Sync, it might work over displayport - but no guarantees.

Pretty sure this means you can't use 3D over displayport, so we're back to where we were before.

I'm still sure that there are many 3D Vision monitors can work with HDMI http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-system-requirements.html "3D Vision HDMI Support" And there are newer models too not in that list.

I wouldn't be so sure if I was you... I have the VG278HE, it "does not" have 3D Vision HDMI support. Like I said previously, a 3D Vision certified monitor will not use "Nvidia's stereoscopic drivers" via a HDMI connection. If it works at all via HDMI, it will only be with a handful of games that have stereo capabilities built into the game.

Maybe that was in the past! HDMI and Display Port are the future! DVI is dead already! Look at the "ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q" it's 3D Vision Ready and it only has Display Port! no HDMI and no DVI. And are you sure you have the right HDMI cable for the 3D Vision ?
