Neverwinter
  2 / 2
I had tried it a few weeks back and it looked meh compared to GW2. The few hours I played it was fun so maybe if they get the 3D issues fixed and I get used to a decent gamepad profile I might try some more of it. The visuals were not on par with even GW2 but I guess you can't expect much for free.

I don't know when it was fixed because I haven't loaded this game up in a while but all the nameplates are now at the correct depth in 3D and the game cursor is dynamic. You still have to leave the shadows on low so I am wondering how hard that would be to fix. The only other issue I noticed that bothered me in the short time I played it is that when NPC's yell out that text box is at screen depth.

Been playing this some and its been pretty fun to play in 3D. I will continue through with the story mode until I get bored. Since its free to play I can't really complain. I know the graphics aren't up to what something like Guild Wars 2 is but the environments are pretty nice and the performance is top notch for me on my system.

Suggested to use NVIDIA driver version 327.23 or greater. and saw this in the patch notes from today: NVIDIA stereoscopic vision: Resolved an issue with shadows not displaying correctly at the login screen or where the field of view was in an unexpected setting. I'm very surprised, and very happy that Cryptic is taking steps to support 3D vision. Neverwinter has a LOT of potential. The gameplay nearly begs for 3D, since the combat is so FPS focused, and less mouse click that's become so synonymous with MMORPGs.

You can set shadows to high if you do not adjust convergence. Unfortunately the default settings makes the world look too flat IMHO. I drop it to low and turn up convergence instead. I think you can get a lot of enjoyment out of the game for free without getting sucked into the money transactions. The game also has user-created content with the Foundry tools which adds more life to the game for me.

I updated my Nvidia drivers to the most recent, but doesn't seem to be workin. It seems to want to crash when I change the video to directx 11 (I was using 9, as I was previously using a Helix patch that removed the crosshair). I"m currently doing a verify and patch to the game. I'll see if that works. Also... I've played the game since it came out. It can be free, for sure, but I've already thrown some money at it. It's a damn good game, and I really wanted a fast mount and some extra inventory space. You can always exchange your in game currency (diamonds) for zen... so you don't HAVE to pay for anything if you don't want to.... you can just play the game. They've also made some fantastic improvements to the Foundry over the last few months.

and if I do get it workin... I'll most likely disable the shadows. I gotsta turn up my convergence! The might throw in an in game convergence setter or something if they can't figure it out. If they found a way to make the shadows work in 3D with a set convergence, they might just find it easier to force it on their own. Still... it's great news that they're doing anything at all. I really hope Cryptic decides to push some of these changes to Star Trek Online. It looks amazing in STO... but you have to disable ALL HUD options... which looks beautiful, but makes it mostly unplayable. Oh, what I wouldn't give to see some of those epic space battles in 3D with the name plates where they should be. If only they could find a way to do something with the cursor. (and a dynamic 3D crosshair in ground combat FPS mode would be amazing). Only time will tell.

Nameplates and crosshair are 3D for me and I have tested on both DX9 and DX11.

Niiiice. So the nameplates and crosshairs went 3D after the forced file verify and patch. The name plates are flawless... but the crosshair has some major issues when you turn up the convergence. It gets FAR too close. Interestingly, the Nvidia crosshairs look perfect, though it's hard to see them through the f'd up in game crosshairs. I wonder if I can turn them off using the disable crosshair mod I was using before. If the Nvidia crosshairs do the job and that works, that'll be just grand. I think I Might keep an eye on the test realm to see if they work on the 3D stuff more. Since they're making an active effort to fix these issues, I'm guessing they could use some extra input from the 3D Vision community.

Its good to hear that they have made some improvements in the 3D visuals. Maybe I'll start it up and let it patch itself and give it a another shot? I found a Pinnicle 360 pad profile for the game I've been meaning to try out. Gawd I hate having to game with a KB/Mouse on the big screen!

Wow, the new patch on the preview shard fixed the shadow issues in 3D when set to high! I just booted it up and can confirm it is working as noted in their patch notes. It shouldn't be long before that fix goes into the live game. It is nice to see a developer supporting 3D and makes further fixes to it based on community feedback.
