Hello, I've been running a GTX-465 with a samsung 120hz 22" on a AMD-1090t machine for about a year.
I've been searching for a blu ray 3d internal drive to support 3d movies.
Can anyone suggest a good drive thats compatible with nvidia 3d vision?
Most of the drives I've checked out are no longer supported.
One of the criteria I have is the ability to do firmware upgrades when available. I don't need to "burn" blu ray disk. Just play.
I'm currently using an older gen BD-ROM, the Sony BDU-X10S. Which has a BD-ROM Read : 2x and it plays 3D Blu-ray movies just fine. The newer gen BD-ROMs have greater read speeds, a larger cache and faster access times. I'm unsure of what you mean by unsupported, there's no reason for a new firmware unless there's an issue with the hardware. If you look at the last released firmware for the BDU-X10S, you'll see it as being 05/28/2008, this is not because it is unsupported but due to no hardware issues.

You might want to opt for a Sony PS3 since you do not plan on burning Blu-rays. It's one of the BEST Blu-ray players on the market IMO with software and firmware updates regularly (with the exception of when their network goes down due to being hacked) But of course then you run into compatibility issues with the 3D glasses that you may be using, so this might not be such a good option. A BD-ROM drive will run you $60 on up to as much as $160 approx. with burning capabilities. Then add another $100 for 3D Blu-ray software that they want you to renew every few years and you've spent a fair amount of cash. Then there's always that HDCP crap to factor in as well, which only adds burden to the honest man and does absolutely very little to thwart piracy.

I what I meant by unsupported is no longer produced or considered a legacy product. I want to be able to get support from the manufacture.
A couple of BD drives I looked at (Sony was one of them) had in the description no longer available.
Right now I leaning towards the newest LG drive. The BDU-X10S is one of the drives I found so will keep that one in mind before buying.
We have a PS3. But my Sony 32" Bravia TV is pre 3D. It can't be upgraded. I have the Nvidia 3D glasses and a 22" Samsung 2233rz 120hz along with a GTX-465 that does 3D pretty good. Unless there's a way to hook up the PS3 to the GTX-465...which I think the DMI port on the GTX is output only.
I'm wanting a internal Blu-Ray to compliment the existing 3D hardware I have. $100 for 3D software??? Damn, I can see $40-$60 but $100 is pretty steep.

I wasn't recommending the BDU-X10S, as it only reads at a 2X speed. Both Arcsoft and Cyberlinks Blu-ray playback software are $99.95 but can be found on sale for less. http://www.arcsoft.com/totalmedia-theatre/ http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd/overview_en_US.html?&r=1 There are other software options as well, be sure to read reviews and forumns, before making a purchase. I see you state "We have a PS3" so you can factor in the price for the additional glasses to accomadate how ever many people are in your "WE". Maybe you should look into a new 3D display that will work with the PS3, just know that 3D Blu-ray playback via a PC can sometimes be problematic due to any number of factors.

There's no we...the kids don't care about 3D...just the old man. I built a gaming system just for Black Ops and to run Cakewalk Sonar X1 DAW.
The 1 pair of glasses will do. I just read (about 2 hours of reviews) of reviews on the Sony BDU-X10S and LG products. It sound like to me there are a lot of people that don't have a clue about computers. Granted, the reviews were dated 2008, but running a query program to check your computers hardware should have been the 1st thing they did. Who cares about having more than 2 audio channels? I don't. Just downloaded the "3D white Paper" from Cyberlink to see what it has to say. It's probably dated material too. I'm trying to find a halfway product. The latest blu-ray 3D compliant drive without the burner. Hell, maybe I'll take the drive out of the PS3 and put it in my computer. Na...I'd get beat up pretty good for doing that. Still searching. I did email Nvida customer support. Maybe they can suggest something.

You don't have to spend as nuch as some others have posted. I have the LG BH12. It is also a rewriter, which you stated that you don't need, but I can recommend the LG products based on this drive. I only paid $70 for it at Fry's a couple months ago. It also came with PowerDVD9 which is not the newest version of their software, but it has worked for me without any problems playing 2D and 3D blu rays. It is a much better deal to buy a drive that comes with the software instead of purchasing a bare OEM drive and purchasing the software separately.

Any of the LG Blu-Ray players should work. I have one of the first readers from LG (it even has HD-DVD playback capability!) and it reads 3D Blu-Ray fine, so any of its newer brethren should be just fine as well. I think Newegg regularly has sales on the readers for ~$50. The bigger problem for you I think is that monitor, as I don't think it has 1080p HDCP support for Blu-Ray content.
Edit: According to Bloody at 3DVblog it does work on that monitor, you just need AnyDVD to bypass the HDCP protection. /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' /> http://3dvision-blog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=666

Anyone that decides to use Power DVD better be prepared to overcome any issues on their own. Cyberlink customer support, like almost all asian companies that do not have a North American office, is abysmal, as they are really not concerned about meeting a North American standard of expected customer support. Their staff is wrong as often as they are correct, do not know what is on their own website, have translation challenges rivaling the twin towers of Babylon, and contradict themselves from one EMail to the next. That being said, we often have little choice but to buy from that part of the world.
