Hi i`m trying to undestand something. With the 3d shutter glasses you can watch 2d movies in 3d right thats what they have been claiming. Well what i wanted to know is if you have a dual projector polarize setup can you watch 2d movies in 3d? thanks

who is "they" and what did they cliam?

in fact you cannot see 2D movies in 3D - there are some (realtime) converters which do 2D->3D but all I have seen are crap! forget em!

like every 3d shutter glasses i saw on ebay claimed to allow you to see 2d movies in 3d. Is this not true? How about the planar system can you see 2d movies in 3d there?

unless the movie was not taken in 3D using a dual camera system or any beamsplitter system which gives you two views the shutterglasses or any other 3D viewing system will NOT be able to show 2D movies in 3D, except you do some conversion using a hardware or software which is able to convert the 2D movie to 3D. Relatime conversion is done e.g by using camera movement to determin where objects are placed in space (z-axis) - the results are too bad to be claimed to be a true stereoscopic movie. Only when conversion is done offline with human interaction one is able to do good conversions (see In-Three demos).

You may do some tests while taking the left view of a stereoscopic video - let it convert to 3D (in realtime) and then compare it with the same original stereoscopic version which has two dedicated views - you will definitly see the difference - even if conversion claims to do a good job.

Hi,
I use 3D shutterglasses system with a/PC and DLP projector (active projection 85 Hz)
b/DVD player with VGA output VGA pass throught home made adapter and DLP projector (active , 50Hz, projection, no PC is needed)

"3D" =pseudo stereo - it is true the real 3D is only when 2 cameras captures movie.
The main problem with 3D movies is - only minimum of movies really filmed in 3D stereo on DVDs are on market. The main of them - no good qality.

from my experience is "pseudo stereo"= Pulfrich phenomena stereo = the dept in image is induced with R/L difference of frames (R eye frame no 1, L eye frame 2, then R eye frame 2 and L eye frame 3) more more better than simple 2D.
Second phenomena is "brain antialiasing" - the picture is more than 50% sharpener than simple 2D. Normally Divx are in qality of DVD and DVDs are more better than simple 2D. The main thing is - moving of camera.
Have tested some DVDs, the best are Planet Earth series (Freshwater) - with DLp XGA projector - this is awesome experience. In real 3D stereo this were more better - only this is not possible - the series is only 2D captured.
For tests on PC are shutterglasses needed, no 8xxx series card, CRT monitor with higher refresh or DLP projector and Stereoscopis Player software (demo) on www.3dtv.at When you use this for DVD is setup of player on 2D movie mode necessary. The answer is - self testing. From my sight this "pseudostereo is no so big as real 3D stereo but more more better than simple 2D. I love this. For my friends are watching of DVD in pseudostereo shocking experience - this is cca 60% of IMAX experience (with projector) -really.

PS:the P.Wimmers Stereoscopic player is possible use too with passive projection, only is necessary adjusting of stereo output methode in setup.

hornet

I thought that Pulfrich effect did not need 3d shutter glasses. Like in the episode of 3rd rock from the sun "nightmare on dick street" I think you only have to cover one eye with a dark lens.

I guess what im askin is it possible to watch 3d with out the shutter glasses? not imax real 3d but simulated 3d because i know the 2d is not filmed in 3d.
thanks

I think, it is possible this with Stereoscopic player and dual projector output format with polarised glasses, 2 projectors wit polfilters and silverscreen .

Glasses less only with autostereoscopic display or HMD.
