I am building a HTPC for 3D gaming and 3D bluray play. I plan to use a pair of the new GTX460 SE in SLI connected to a Mitsubishi DLP rear projection TV (WD-60C10). I'd like to give you a serious warning about using mitsubishi DLP and suggest you try and find a discontinued samsung 3D LED powered DLP for two reasons.
1: mitsubishi dlp overscans by about 20%. you will have to create a custom resolution just to use your desktop. while some games, i'd say the majority i've played support your desktop's native res some very popular games will not. SC2 (probably d3) and BF2 are on the top of my head. The samsung LED DLP offers 1:1 pixel mapping so theres no overscan!
2:LED DLP does not require new bulbs, a major financial advantage.
I also suggest upgrading those 460's to a higher line if you can.

You can change the display size to fit the entire desktop to your Mitsubishi DLP screen without having to create the custom resolution. Have you tried this? 3D Vision does not support the samsung DLP.

Nvidia driver does allow you to resize desktop so your image will fit on the TV screen. I have not experienced any problems after proper resolution is set.

This is my biggest concern. I will wait for my system to arrive to see if I can work around it. I don't want to buy the whole Nvidia 3D kit to just make the 3D vision to output checkerboard format.

I am trying to avoid the 3D Play software because I got the impression that it is not mature. Plus at 1080P it is limited to 24Hz which is way too low for gaming. However, this might be my only option.

Yes well the resize tool creates a custom resolution. Screen shot included.
edit: in the picture you can see the black bars around the resized deplay res, that is what is missing from the screen and obviously is not 20%, which was just some number I had read earlier.

This is the same function imarun is talking about. Again, it works for most games, but some games do not support custom resolutions, also included screenshot for an example. BF2 is the same way, it just doesn't offer the option of custom res's.
3D Vision does not officially support samsung LED DLP's but i've read a few cases of folks using them on these forums, I'll see if I can find them and link them.

I only mentioned it because I have two 470's and I couldn't play metro 2033 in 3D without the cut scenes lagging. Just beware that as a rule of thumb you lose anywhere from 15%-50% of frame rates when you enable 3D. So it really just depends on what you want to do. All that said the 460's give the greatest punch for value and you'll be able to run most games without a hiccup!

Do you need some special settings to run 3D Vision with SLI? Or does 3D vision automatically recognize SLI and allow the game program to split the work between the two cards?

Right now 3d Vision detects that I have a 3d tv, but as I go through the wizard it keeps telling me to turn 3d mode on--even when it is.
Is this because I also need the Mitsubishi adaptor? Was it a waste to buy Nvidia 3d vision then, if I can just use the Mitsubishi glasses and Nvidia 3d play?

I tried my 3D Vision kit with a WD-65837 and it worked without an adaptor. I just went through set up (cd1.33) with the sync cable connected and PC plugged into the emitter, worked perfectly. Yours is a model number that isn't on 3D Vision list, but that means nothing because that is only a partial list. Try again with CD1.33 and ignore messages, just keep going until it finishes. If it won't complete set up, let us know where it failed.

It doesn't get stuck or anything, but if I continue to the 3d tests they simply aren't in 3d. I exited there, because I figured it just wasn't working.

I'd like to give you a serious warning about using mitsubishi DLP and suggest you try and find a discontinued samsung 3D LED powered DLP for two reasons.
1: mitsubishi dlp overscans by about 20%. you will have to create a custom resolution just to use your desktop. while some games, i'd say the majority i've played support your desktop's native res some very popular games will not. SC2 (probably d3) and BF2 are on the top of my head. The samsung LED DLP offers 1:1 pixel mapping so theres no overscan!
2:LED DLP does not require new bulbs, a major financial advantage.
I also suggest upgrading those 460's to a higher line if you can.

Nvidia driver does allow you to resize desktop so your image will fit on the TV screen. I have not experienced any problems after proper resolution is set.

I am trying to avoid the 3D Play software because I got the impression that it is not mature. Plus at 1080P it is limited to 24Hz which is way too low for gaming. However, this might be my only option.

Yes well the resize tool creates a custom resolution. Screen shot included.
edit: in the picture you can see the black bars around the resized deplay res, that is what is missing from the screen and obviously is not 20%, which was just some number I had read earlier.

This is the same function imarun is talking about. Again, it works for most games, but some games do not support custom resolutions, also included screenshot for an example. BF2 is the same way, it just doesn't offer the option of custom res's.
3D Vision does not officially support samsung LED DLP's but i've read a few cases of folks using them on these forums, I'll see if I can find them and link them.

I only mentioned it because I have two 470's and I couldn't play metro 2033 in 3D without the cut scenes lagging. Just beware that as a rule of thumb you lose anywhere from 15%-50% of frame rates when you enable 3D. So it really just depends on what you want to do. All that said the 460's give the greatest punch for value and you'll be able to run most games without a hiccup!

Yours is a model number that isn't on 3D Vision list, but that means nothing because that is only a partial list. Try again with CD1.33 and ignore messages, just keep going until it finishes. If it won't complete set up, let us know where it failed.
