3d vision and 4k TV's
I need some information from you guys, I was thinking about buying a 4k tv to use as a computer monitor. I was looking into information about running 3dtv play to play games on these 4k TV's. Is this possible or does it still come down to bandwidth limitations? I was looking at the 3dtv play page but it does not seem to have any info on compatible TV's for this. Has anyone got a setup like this and is it any good?

The "TV" would have to have built-in 3D as 3DTV Play used the "TV's" Glasses to run. Just FYI...TVs are NOT monitors and perform poorly when compared to an actual "Monitor". They're getting better but they're still not quite there yet (Even 4k). Price wise a 3D 4k TV would be a hefty chunk of change ($2200-$6000). For that price you could have a very nice 3D Vision "Surround" setup that would look 10x better than any "TV" on the market.

Plenty of threads on this. A few people claim to have gotten it working, though here's a few notes. -The TV must support 3D. Seems obvious, but there you go. You can't buy a 2D TV and expect to hack support into it. -The only official way to output 3D to a TV is via 3D TV Play. 3D TV Play only supports 1080p@24hz, or 720p@60hz. Some success stories in this thread. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/818183/gtx-970-4k-3d-vision-gaming-success-with-lgub850v-passive-tv-/ Really though, you'll be FAR better off with a 3D monitor or (preferably) projector.

I have the a Samsung 4k 65" 3D TV (HU658200 2014 model) which cost £2k (was £3500 last year) and getting it to run as a monitor just feels bad. 3DTV Play looks terrible as it's limited to 720 and I've not looked for an EDID yet (and probably can't be bothered anyway) and the input lag even with gaming mode enabled is horrible even for moving the mouse around on the desktop. I'm sure it's great for hooking up a console (and I got an Xbox One today just for the Halo games and some Destiny but not connected it up yet) but for PC use it feels clunky. I just can't recommend it at the moment. I'm not too disheartened though, because I didn't buy it to work as a PC monitor, but its a shame that after spending £2k it's not really a viable option - but TV's are purely designed around processing film, TV and Blu-ray/DVD playback with lots of post-processing involved, rather than delivering PC gaming grade input latency. I have the ROG SWIFT and Acer XB280HK Gsync 4k hooked up to my PC, so that suits my PC requirements quite nicely.

Very happy with my passive LG 4K TV using EDID mod. Key issue is large input lag (around 55 msec), but great 3D picture quality with low ghosting. In-game resolution settings (like 1080p, rather than 2160p) can reduce GPU loading - 3840x2160 3D rendering requires more than single 980 for some games. 4K TVs can provide great FOV with good resolution - depending upon viewing distance. Note that 27 in monitor viewed at 27 in distance, has the same viewing geometry as 55 in TV viewed at 55 in, or 10 ft projector display viewed at 10 ft (assuming all are 16:9 displays). For more discussion about FOV and resolution, see https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/809649/3d-vision/please-add-hdmi-2-0-support-to-3dtv-play-/post/4460163/#4460163. I assume that Surround configurations have some of the same issues that Eyefinity configurations have (I implemented AMD-based 3 screen portrait configuration). I had to buy and use a calibration sensor/software package to get consistent color/brightness settings on all 3 displays - even with 3 matched displays (same model/manufacturer). I chose a portrait orientation to better match the eyes FOV, since landscape is better suited for a smaller number of games, in my opinion (like racing/flight games). Bezel compensation offset is required for good 3D, and bezel thickness can disrupt 3D immersion. These issues do not apply to single screen setups.

If you want 3D the Rog Swift PG278Q gives best 3d at 1440p. Then use a 4k monitor (or tv, but tv isn't as good as monitor) when you want to play in 2d @ 4k.

How is the ghosting with your Rog Swift? I tired a couple, and while the 3D looked noticeable better then my 1080p Acer monitor, the ghosting was pretty bad on the swift. I wonder if it could be something in my setup that contributed to the extra ghosting on the swift?

Rog swift is useless for 3d and I want to sell it. Sli no longer works with it in 3d mode so it is no good to me. Thanks for the info tho guys sounds like the 4k tv idea is out then. The only thing about a surround setup is I would want something with the thinnest bezels possible

Ghosting is bad on the swift, but there are other issues with it too. The gsync led is always on during desktop mode. And having another graphics card installed say for PhysX causes gsync not to work. The one that's getting me most is I have not been able to use 3d for months cause sli does not work with this monitor in 3d. Im just trying to work out where to go from here the rog swift is just not worth owning and NVidia have zero interest in fixing any of the issues with it. I thinking of giving up on 3d, it just feels there isn't much option left I don't really want to go back to 1080p. Had a look for thin bezel monitors to do surround but does not look like there is anything great around.

The 3D is truly stunning, and it solves all the issues you've mentioned there. Don't be confused by resolution. 4K doesn't mean anything and is mostly marketing. How close the screen is determines what resolution you can use effectively. You may turn up your nose at 720p on a projector- and miss out on a truly stellar 3D experience. http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html 80" diagonal projector sitting at 10 feet will look as good as 4K up close.

I don't really have the space for a projector to be honest. Although I bet the 3d would look amazing. Was just reading about getting smaller 1080p 3d monitors and removing the bezel for surround. Its a shame someone does not make a 1080p 24inch slim bezel 3d monitor cause that for me would be issue solved. Out of all the shops I have been in 4k up close has not really impress me to the level that 3d first did. I might have a serious look at getting monitors and removing the bezels. Its funny how much you miss 3d when you cant use it. Assassins creed black flag I cant wait to give another go.
