I've been looking for a solution to this without much luck since most of the time fullscreen is the only or best option for Stereoscopic gameplay. Depending on the display being used it can be a bit of a pain. Especially on ones were you have to manually change the mode for a 3D input to the required format being used.
I saw where an editor from over at widescreen gaming endorses Actual Multiple Monitors since it has the feature.

I'm not sure if you could use AutoHotKey or not ... guess I'm not completely sure of everything you need it to do, I don't have multiple monitors to test it but the following saved as an *.ahk(with AHK installed) would bind Ctrl+Tab to shift focus to the Desktop, it pulls me out of a fullscreen game and to the Desktop.
^Tab::
WinActivate, Program Manager
Return
I just want to unlock my cursor from a fullscreen game and move it over to a window on my second monitor without having to alt tab the game.
So if I want to select a new stream from Netflix once one ends or scroll a walkthrough or look at config files while the game remains in fullscreen on the other monitor.
Also I'm not currently using hot keys.

If that works to get you out of the game without disturbing it maybe I can come up with a way to save the id of the game on it's way out and when you do it again it'll shift focus back to the game.

I looked at cursor-lock earlier.
I thought it was just for locking the cursor within the confines of a windowed game.
Hmm TsaebehT, Hotkeys in running on the taskbar. I copied and pasted your script in a text file and renamed it cursor.ahk but it doesn't do anything when I hit control+tab.

Ok, a few things off the top of my head. Never run/edit AutoHotKey from it's Shortcut as that runs/edits the AutoHotKey.ahk in your Documents folder ... if you ever do anything funky and forget about it, it'll happen when you 'run' AHK from the Shortcut(AutoHotKey.ahk).
I usually just create a create a new Text Document where ever I want to save the script and rename it extension and all or save as in Notepad++.
If you edit and save a script while it is running it won't change how the script is working until you Right-Click the H on the taskbar and select Reload This Script or you run the script again by running the *.ahk again, which usually results in an error message that the script is already running and prompt to replace it's instance unless you use #SingleInstance Force as one of the first lines before the code/hotkey binds.
edit:another way to test a hotkey is to bind it to MsgBox something like:
Space::MsgBox, Houston We Have Lift Off!!

Quickly tested Actual Multiple Monitors and the mouse could enter the other monitor but as soon as I clicked on an application there the game minimized. Either I did something wrong or being able to move the mouse outside the game is overrated.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.
To have a critical piece of code that everyone can enjoy!
What more can you ask for?
If the above Ctrl+Tab code works then this should do it, it starts by setting the next 'Focus' to the 'Desktop' when you Ctrl+Tab it sets the next Focus to the game and goes to the Desktop, then when you Ctrl+Tab back into the game it sets the next Focus to what ever Window you were using. If for what ever reason the WinTitle is blank, like when you select the taskbar, it'll go back to using the Desktop for next Focus.
#SingleInstance Force
EnvSet, FocusOn, Program Manager
^Tab::
FocusOff = %FocusOn%
WinGetActiveTitle, FocusOn
WinActivate, %FocusOff%
Return
Sorry, I should have posted this sooner, but Display Fusion has added this feature that allows clicking on additional apps without loosing focus in a game.

tried this. doesn't work. at least not in Battlefield 5.
It only ever worked once I added a manual trigger, and then while I could leave BF5 with the mouse and go on the 2nd monitor, as soon as I clicked something it would minimize the game

Sorry, I never used it for this feature, so I can't be of any help. Try posting in the Steam forum or the Fusion website.
Also, if you code, there's a 3rd party program for Window's Media Center that if I remember correctly was open source and allowed WMC to be watched in Fullscreen Exclusive while surfing/tasking.

I'll get it from the org site, it appears to have a newer version.
