Hi all, i'd been hearing how powerful and cheap these two cards are, so I got a pair in SLI.
I thought i'd check with the s3d gamers out there for thoughts. The rest of my pc is a i7950 3.0ghz and 12gb ddr3 ram. I worry I am getting a bottleneck in my CPU.
I get 20-40 fps in assassins creed revelations 3d.
Prototype 2, 20-30 frames average! I know its badly optimized for pc.
Crysis 3, is not even playable it is so slow. Haven't tried 3D, as 2d is too slow anyway.
In Battlefield 3 I was expecting stellar improvements over my gtx480's SLI.... but actually minimal improvement. Has anyone else got a similar rig and might be able to explain.

I think the problem is you're running at stock clock. You could get yourself a $30 cooler and clock it up to 3.8 or 4ghz probably and that would mostly remove the bottleneck I believe.

sli in crysis 3 is bugged. try "map fields" or "map swamp" in console.

My i7-930 is bottlenecking my single gtx 680 when oc at 3.57 ghz. Your 3ghz with sli is 100% a problem! Get it up to 4ghz and you will see a huge increase in fps.

Ive never onced bottle necked on cpu too cause anything below steady 120fps gaming the drastic difference is a bit staggering. I mean if worse comes to worse check your temperatures and everything to make sure you can overclock.

I'm with eqzitara, it seems pretty likely that something is busted. There is no way that Crysis 3 should be unplayable in 2D on machine that powerful.
Definitely check your CPU temperature first. If it's overheating, and throttling down, that would explain the symptoms.
As a simplistic but easy to run benchmark, what does your Windows Experience Index say for your CPU? On my elderly i860 at 3GHz, I'm getting 7.4 for processor. Yours must be higher than that, if things are working properly.

Hi chaps, hope it's ok to advise to the OP to bear in mind, if he's going to run Windows Experience Index, that the figures differs from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and I couldn't see what he is running. But I agree with the post above mine to run that anyway.

As for an overclock, sli 670 is quite a bit more powerful then my single gtx680, and even that was being bottlenecked quite considerably at stock clock (2.8ghz) when playing Batman AA, GTA IV especially. When I got my GTX 680 (from gtx 580) I was disappointed with the speeds I was getting. My overclock radically altered my minimum FPS in all games tested.
Also camRaid mentioned Battlefield 3, but isn't that a well known game that is quite restricted to CPU speed? Wouldn't it be better for him to test his kit on something that is well programmed for SLI and is not CPU dependant to look for problems?

i myself upgraded from gtx 460 2x sli to gtx 660ti(oc) 2x sli. my cpu is i7-940 and i only play in 3d vision at 1024x768..up til latest drivers(314.07) my new config was performing worst than previous one. now i get about par performance on most of the games i play...my call is that it all comes down to the drivers not being optimized for 3d vision sli configs on 600 series yet..their main focus has probably been to focus on non sli/ non 3d vision performance even though last driver started to boost sli configs substantially. for the previous generation i owned (400 series), the greatest improvement for 3d vision/sli combination in drivers came somewhere around 1y after the cards being released if i remember correctly (and it was clearly advertised in the driver release)... it's likely to hit release in the next couple of months...let's cross our fingers!

There's something seriously wrong with your system if you're experiencing such issues. There's no way you should be getting worse/even performance with your 660's compared to your old 460's. That is not an driver issue, but something else entirely. When I upgraded from my SLI GTX460's to my SLI GTX660's (non ti), I got a really really big boost in performance. Everything is working so much smoother and in some games I got an easy 100% boost in fps. No matter which driver I use. And may I ask why are you using 1024x768 as your gaming resolution? What sort of display are you using for 3D Vision? What sort of fps are you getting in games?

1024x768 is the native resolution of my viewsonic dlp projector (pjd 6221).. on most games i have 60fps in 3d vision most of the time playing at high settings (i use adaptive vsync) ie very smooth...but there's always these instances of small jitter/stutter in specific games locations like monaco track on dirt 3, some bf3 scenes (which improved tremendously with last driver), some just cause 2 scenes as well...that's how i gauge the improvement in terms of gameplay because i agree yes most of the time everything is smooth and fine!

I still swear that your slow down on certain scenes will most likely be because of your CPU. 2x SLI gtx 670 is mighty powerful. With just a single GTX 680 (and don't forget SLI uses more CPU anyway) at stock clock my I7-920 min FPS were:
Stock 2.8 ghz Batman AA min 56
OC 3.57ghz Batman AA min 81
That is not insignificant. I really suggest you do a modest CPU O.C (with a good cooler) to really help unleash your GPU setup. Your resolution of 1024x768 doesn't help this balance. It means your GPU will not be working very hard and will be limited by the frames outputted by the CPU. There are so many guides to overclocking, it really isn't too hard (although it does take a good few hours of your time). At least think about it :-)
Just for another example, check Joohan's spec. he has his i52500k at 4.5GHZ. There is a very low chance his CPU is bottlenecking anything but the most insanely CPU dependant games.

I still swear that your slow down on certain scenes will most likely be because of your CPU. 2x SLI gtx 670 is mighty powerful. With just a single GTX 680 (and don't forget SLI uses more CPU anyway) at stock clock my I7-920 min FPS were:

I still swear that your slow down on certain scenes will most likely be because of your CPU. 2x SLI gtx 670 is mighty powerful. With just a single GTX 680 (and don't forget SLI uses more CPU anyway) at stock clock my I7-920 min FPS were:
Stock 2.8 ghz Batman AA min 56
OC 3.57ghz Batman AA min 81
That is not insignificant. I really suggest you do a modest CPU O.C (with a good cooler) to really help unleash your GPU setup. Your resolution of 1024x768 doesn't help this balance. It means your GPU will not be working very hard and will be limited by the frames outputted by the CPU. There are so many guides to overclocking, it really isn't too hard (although it does take a good few hours of your time). At least think about it :-)
Just for another example, check Joohan's spec. he has his i52500k at 4.5GHZ. There is a very low chance his CPU is bottlenecking anything but the most insanely CPU dependant games.
