PG278Q G - Sync will support 3d at 1440P!
  1 / 2
Well it seems like we finaly will get a 1440P monitor with proper 1440P 3D Vision :) Awesome if it's true. But the sad thing is that it seems to be a matte panel. I really was hoping for a glossy panel! Scroll way down and you will see JJ from Asus says this! "The ROG SWIFT will support 1440P ( 2560×1440 ) 3D VISION. Stay tuned for more information ( This is pretty awesome " http://pcdiy.asus.com/2014/01/pg278q-rog-swift-gaming-monitor-the-best-gaming-monitor/

Nice, at one point it was 1080P 3D. I contacted nvidia and asked them to contact asus when they said it was due to software limitation due to that making 0 sense. TBH, I didn't think it was going to be resolved but they said they'd look into it. Good news they got it resolved. All we have to worry for now is ghosting/crosstalk. Apparently g-sync doesnt work with 3d vision[maybe yet or maybe entirely]. But I guess its cool to have as an option for 2D.

Wow.....that was me who asked JJ that question & when I did it felt like pissing in the wind. I thought for sure I was going to get the "Nvidia only does 1080p" answer. This just made my day & finally gave me an excuse to get a new pc & graphics card. Now excuse me while I research when the 800 series cards hit.

Sorry if it's off-topic, but would MSI GTX 770 (2gb) in SLI manage 1440p 3D?

And educate me please, on whether one can sli a GTX 770 2gb with gtx 770 4 gb? :)
Sorry if it's off-topic, but would MSI GTX 770 (2gb) in SLI manage 1440p 3D?
Depends upon your personal requirements, but I'd say it's unlikely to work well enough at max settings. If you look at the NVidia performance graph, you see that for 2560x1600, slightly higher than the 1440p, that it can't pull 60 fps in a lot of games. If you use the idea that SLI is what gives you the 2x you need for 3D Vision, you can sort of use the single GPU graph here as a guide:

Great news. Really looking forward to ASUS PG278Q and GTX-880. I play fast paced multiplayer FPS games in 2D and I would use g-sync and higher resolution and I play action-adventure games in 3D so I need 3d vision as well ...

Lets say the monitor comes out in 3 months. Will we almost have to wait another year just so we can get a graphics card that can handle it?

Not to mention I would definitely need to upgrade my current Video cards if I was doing surround. Not to mention the need for 3 separate display port connections.
Lets say the monitor comes out in 3 months. TBH, I think your ALWAYS going to need top of the line cards for it IF you want 120 FPS. Like 780-780ti's SLI AS OF NOW. When 800 series come out will need 880's and so forth. Like maybe you can draw it out to a year MAYBE a year and a half since cards come out annually but thats the limit imo. Though there are people with surround with systems worse then I expect. I guess if your okay with sacrificing framerate and okay with frame drops then you will be okay with a lesser rig. You can basically compare 1440p = multimonitor setup since its close. ------------------------- I think anyone planning for 1440p3D in multimonitor is nuts. Thats like 4k 2D @60hz multimonitor. You wouldnt want to see the rigs needed for that and probably overclocking out of the box.

Yeah I have a 670 overclocked & I can't justify buying a 700 series even though it would be a improvement. So I'm just waiting to see what happens with 800 series & how the benchmarks look. I know my rig can't handle 1440 3d right now. Volnaiskra can you comment on what kind of performance you expect with your monster rig? I mean with 2 Titans shouldn't you be able to get 60 fps on most games at 1440? Also do you guys think AA will still be needed as much? At that PPI maybe we can forgo AA & save some performance that way. I have been waiting for 1440 3d for years it seems & now that its almost here I am getting paranoid thinking I will need to fork over a few grand for SLI Titans. I don't have the guts to do that.

Though I think mostly everyone would agree its great + smaa injector/sweetfx. Though the good news is SMAA injectors should make up the difference if needed.
