How Many GTX 480 would I need to run FFXIV 3D surrounding 3-Way or 4-Way ... or NO WAY ?
Hello Everyone :)
This is my 1923459340 Dollars question that I can't find an answer too ...
How Many GTX 480 OC to 900 Would I need to Run Final Fantasy 14 on 3D surrounding on 3 27" Monitors?

I will be running Water Cooling so Temp is not an issue.
I was told that two suffers on 2D surround (3 monitors without 3D)
so should i Go 3-way Sli ? or 4-Way Sli
Keep in mind that I would like to play with 1080P settings and would love to see details
I asked everywhere ... over at FFXIVCore, EVGA.com and now I am here with the manufacture hope someone can answer me or show me how I can get my answer

3d only works in SLI- no tri or quad support. So dont waist your money on more than two....
tri and quad work better for 2d. Check out the 3d surround forum- there are lots of tri users who just sold off their third cards due to lack of support. this is a old issue.

System:
Intel I7 920 overclocked to 4ghz
Asus Rampage Extreme II
2 Ge-force 480 in SLI
GTX 295 PhysX Card
12gb ddr3 2000mhz ram
Intel SSD in RAID 0
BR RW
1000w Sony surround sound
NVIDIA 3D Vision
3d displays tested:
Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)
Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)
Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)
23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)
I'm not even sure FFXIV will support 3D Vision. The benchmark doesn't run in FS so we can test it there and the last version used a render-to-texture method that might not be compatible with 3D Vision if the stereo API can't read depth values. Maybe someone in the Beta can confirm, idk.
As for how many 480 you will need, maybe 2 max, which as DanielJoy said is really the max supported for 3D Vision anyways but from the benchmark the game was heavily CPU limited and according to some reports the game will be 30 FPS capped as with FFXI, probably keep a more level playing field with consolers and to ease the burden on their servers/network.

does this have to do with these steps ? for running Full Screen ?
this is the link for the benchmark
http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/na/
and then you do these setting ...
Howto run FFXIV Benchmark with multi GPUs:
Go to folder FFXIVBenchmark\data\
Rename FFXivWinBenchmark executable to 3DMark06 for CrossFireX ( Crysis for SLI )
Copy full screen wrapper d3d9.dll to this folder.
Run 3DMark06 ( Crysis for SLI )
when you say only 2 cards are supported do you mean 3D wont work if there is more ? or that there are issues with drivers dealing with more than 2 cards ?
I am reading the 3d Surrounding forms and posts but I cant really find a final answer ...
I hope something will be there ...
I just want to know if nVidia will or will not support 3D on more than 2-way Sli
anyways I hope they do ... since running the game on 3 monitors 2D with just 2-way Sli is not that great for FFXIV

Ahh so you mean the FF benchmark doesn't use SLI by default ???? Gahhh no wonder my i7 2.8ghz with SLI'd 460 system is beating my Quadcore over clocked to 3ghz with SLI'd 470's !! And by a good thousand points too.. Gonna try this SLI fix when i get home tonite!! Thanks!!

That's correct from everything I've read. 3D Vision support is limited to 2-way SLI officially; 3-way and 4-way were in Beta starting in January but since then even that level of support has been pulled and there is no mention of it anymore. They've made a few mentions about knowing about bugs with 3-way and 4-way but no fixes; right now 3-way and 4-way offers little or no benefit in 3D Vision in the vast majority of reported games/instances and in many cases, actually results in WORST performance with 3-way and 4-way SLI.
I'm not that fussed to go through all that for the benchmark but I'm sure someone will be curious enough to check for you, but from my own benchmark run with just 1x480 FPS were 60+, so with 2x480 you should be fine in 3D Vision especially since the game will probably be capped at 30FPS when it goes online.

to be honest I am not sure if 2-way SLI will be able to run FFXIV on 3D surround since I was clearly told by someone playing beta that he is having hard time playing it on 2D

FFXIV will support nvidia 3D. In fact, Square-Enix is working to make sure it will be 3D flawlessly, aka no 3D issues like shadows, water.
Furthermore, beta leaks CONFIRMED the interface is 3D (someone took a screenshot of the interface).

Cool, I hope so, from what I've read however, Nvidia support has been pretty poor so far with this game even though its a TWIMTBP title. No SLI support, no FS for the demo, poor overall performance compared to ATI etc. We'll see if they get it sorted in time but they do have good devrel with Sq-Enix, at least the EU office with JC2.

I'm having a hard time with it also, because the controls are horrible, not because the game doesn't run well. A single 480 runs the game nice and smooth, so as long as 3D is supported I'd say two of them will be fine for 3D, especially with the 30 fps cap.

I tried the FF XIV open beta. Although I have switched to fullscreen mode and the game uses directx (at least there is message with directx when the game crahses) the 3D vision can`t be activated in this game :'(
Anyone managed to run the game in 3D?!

tri and quad work better for 2d. Check out the 3d surround forum- there are lots of tri users who just sold off their third cards due to lack of support. this is a old issue.
