Viewsonic PJD6531w reviews? Does it even work?
  1 / 2
So anyone seen any reviews of the Viewsonic PJD6531w 720P 3D-DLP projector? Their website ( http://www.viewsonic.com/products/pjd6531w.htm ) claims its 3D-Ready but its notoriously absent from Nvidia's supported hardware list. So does this projector work in 3D or not? Otherwise the specs sound really good but that would be one hell of a headache to deal with unsupported hardware (especially with the finicky Nvidia driver). I'm not looking to be the guinea-pig here so anyone know if this beamer is any good?

This is a DLP 3D ready projector and will work fine with DLP link glasses. Nvidia does not support this projector so do not buy it otherwise you might end up using either old drivers and possibly using glasses upside down. This is happening to all the people who bought Optoma Hd66 recently.

The specs of this projector are good especially it is much brighter compared to the nvidia supported projector list.

This projector might work with iZ3D driver DLP output for games along with Xpand X102 glasses. But some games don't work so well with iZ3D driver.

I hope this helps.

Get the PJD6210 from View-sonic. It's officially supported from Nvidia.

SIDE NOTE: It's funny how the spell checker underlines Nvidia as misspelled.. lol

It's not true, even if a lot of web articles says it is supported by Nvidia. I have this projector. it has excellent picture display quality and 3000 lumens brightness, but does not work with any Nvidia new 3D drivers, it fails the 3D dispaly compatibility test, switching automatically to not supported 3D native 1280x800 60Hz resolution, even if you setup Windows to suported by projector 1280x720 120Hz 3D resolution. It Looks like ViewSonic did not pay its tribute to Nvidia for certification...

I am also very, very interested in this projector and also very, very frustrated by the lacking amount of useful information out there regarding it.

According to the manual, the projector's 3D mode is specifically 3D Vision, which means that it SHOULD work, however this does not mean that NVidia has support specifically for this unit. You may be stuck with the "Generic CRT" drivers that are being used for the Optoma HD66. I do notice, however, that there is an option in the projector menu to flip the lenses in 3D mode, which implies that you should at least be able to use it without wearing the glasses upside-down.

It's very strange that the 6531 isn't on the supported list as it seems to be tailor-made specifically for use with 3D Vision (as well as other 120hz uses). Maybe it's a simple matter of a driver/software update coming down the line for 3D Vision, as there are lot of PJs coming out that are made to work with the NVidia 3D equipment that are not on the supported list. To be fair to NVidia, this projector came out in late February and is still very, very new.

On the positive side, a customer review on this site claims that it works just fine though, dishearteningly, the review below claims to not be able to make it work, so who knows?

I really don't want the Optoma. I have read terrible things about their customer support and, based on the complete lack of a reply from their customer support and sales departments to my questions about the unit, I am very doubtful that support would be good from them which, with a projector, is very important.

I've always been very pleased with Viewsonic displays and their customer support. Just not enough info out there to really say Yea or Nay to this unit yet.

On paper though, looks like the best value for money unit out of the 3D-Ready stuff.

The best you can get from PJD6531 for now, it works with Nvidia 3D driver CD v1.13 (October, 2009) with generic CRT setup, the projector however is not detected as 3D compatible and similar to Optoma owners, I need to wear glasses upside down. The option in projector menu for 3D flip does not solve the glasses problem. Any drivers released after October do not work at all, the CRT option has disappeared. This makes me very upset with Nvidia, that their drivers are not backwards compatible taking out functionality, probably purposely…
I wrote the e-mail to Viewsonic support about the problem and currently waiting… for now, just got confirmation saying that my problem was passed over to higher level of support…whatever this means?
I’m hoping someone from Nvidia will also address the issue in future driver release, having generic CRT support should be available in all drivers, it is probably 10 minutes fix for them if they want..
The last thing I've tried, is implementing one of the trick some guys using for Optoma, removing two pins form DVI to RGB adapter, it works for me but RGB give me much worse picture quality then DVI/HDMI cable. Otherwise, projector has brilliant picture quality! And in my opinion, it could be the best on the 3D projectors market for the money, if works with Nvidia !!!
If Nvidia/Viesonic won’t fix the problem, hopefully DLP-link glasses will work for movie watching, I have not try that yet...

Anybody else have PJD6531 working with Nvida...please share your experience...

Wahim I'm not sure what you're talking about but my Pjd6210 has been working flawlessly since I got it almost 2 months ago, and has
never had an issue being detected by the Nvidia drivers. This projector is offically supported by Nvidia as it is listed on their page
of officially supported devices.., I'd suggest you try a clean install of Windows 7, make sure all drivers are latest, and see if the 6210 doesn't work flawlessly..

Hi Wahim. The above is your quote. First you replied to my statement "Get the PJD6210 " by saying that you
have this projector. Unfortunately I do not think I am the one who needs to learn to read.

acer h5360 is supported and is 720p but the seperation is set to very low by nvidia drivers.

Just got new Viewsonic PJD6531w... good picture, colors, brightness...

But don't understand what is the current situation about 3D games support

1) PGD-150 3D Glasses‎ - what is it about? what can I do with these glasses? can I play games with Nvidia card?
2) Is NVIDIA 3D vision works somehow with this projector?

Which glasses are you using, the ones that came with the projector ?

3d Vision should work with that projector, do you own the 3d Vision glasses ?
