Maybe the Valve controllers. They integrated just about every other controller type for gameplay.

There's also voice bot and voice attack that might work.

Thank you for taking the time and posting this information. You have been a great help.
I've never played any flight sims, I would presume that you are using joystick/rudder/accelerator gaming peripherals.
Perhaps they have macro capabilities that can be used to perform some tasks or you could leverage auto hot key. https://www.autohotkey.com/ Youtube would likely be a good source for tutorials.
I often use a Belkin Nostromo, which has now morphed into the Razer Orbweaver. I don't like the Razer so much, but the Nostromo is great for assigning macros for in-game actions, provided that it doesn't violate TOS

Many thanks everyone for your input!
Based on what I read, it seems the VR is still not a very solid playground ?!
I see a lot of people mentioning the Odyssey+, but I've read in many places that it produces a blurry image.
Ideally I would like to test all the VR headsets and select one :)) But obviously this is not doable!
The SDE is a killer for me as it was with DK1 and DK2 that I had back in the day (6 years ago almost lol).
I am interested in VR for 2 reasons:
- Develop cool stuff so Stereo3D is not dead for me :) (Sure I can always go back to this 425.31 driver and play any of our 800+ fixed games, but since VR is considered the next best thing in stereo3D, I want to experiment with it).
- Seeing what it takes to play current AAA 2D games in it, even if I have to settle to a Depth3D Approach :)
(Sure is not proper Geometry 3D, which looks awesome, but murders your GPU since you render twice, etc). I am also interested in VRWorks and how Nvidia's improvements to the rendering pipeline work.
- And the "3rd thing" I am interested in, is Linux: I made 3D Vision work in Linux before (don't ask, I don't have the code or anything usable as I didn't save it back then. It was just an experiment) and even run Doom BFG with 3D Vision under Linux ( I didn't play more than like 20 minutes of gameplay) and since VR is much more open-source, I would like to kinda stick with Linux for my tests :)
Obviously, when coding, I need to be seated in front of my PC, hence I don't really care about tracking and other thingies (at least in the 1st phase). I am already on the waiting list of the Valve Index (and probably 10000000 other people and waiting till september... will be a long time...)
I'll do some research, but currently it seems there isn't anything that is as good as 3D Vision, in terms of CRYSTAL Clear PER EYE resolution as you get with a standard 1080p 3D Vision monitor.
Is this correct? Please correct me if I am wrong. The FOV is not a big factor ( I have my 3D Surround for that), but image quality is.
Many thanks again!

So... in the end I said F@ck it and I bought a full Vive Pro Kit from Amazon Prime and the needed Samsung GearVR Replacement Lens Kit from E-bay as detailed below (for those who don't know, but I expect I am the last one to the party and most of you already know about it ^_^):

It should all arrive next week. If I don't like it I can return it to Amazon:)

That'll be a pretty good test case for your needs I think.
There are only a couple of headsets with better resolution, the HP Reverb is the most interesting at $600. The Pimax 8K is a possible, but reports have been mixed and Pimax customer support has been sketchy.
I'd recommend holding off on the GearVR mod, I think that is mostly a lot of confirmation bias. Could also be the problem of personal preferences- like some people don't care about god-rays and some do.
The people designing the lenses are not idiots, and know waaay more about the subject than yahoos on the interwebs. There are always trade-offs in lens design.
Similarly, the reports of O+ being blurry are wildly overstated. I bought an O+ for experimentation at $300, and the anti-SDE is not bad at all, as compared with the identical screen Vive Pro. It's closer to being AA than anything else, so again it depends upon preference as to whether you hate AA. For me, I thought the SDE was a nice bump in quality especially for Virtual TV- but damn, that headband sucked so hard I sent it back.
I use a used Vive Pro off eBay for a similar scenario as you, coding at main machine. I washed the face mask, :-> It's quite a lot better than the alternatives for this- the head band makes it much easier to go on/off. The audio not choosing the right channel every time I launch is irritating as hell.
Don't kid yourself though, you are not going to code in there with Virtual Desktop. Trying read a lot of text for coding is terrible, even when using SuperSampling of 2.0.
A friend of my observed that VR right now is like AM radio. It works, it's definitely interesting. But it wears on you. The low resolution is like the static you get on AM radios. You don't notice so much at first, but after an hour, you are just tired.

I like it! "AM Radio" that is an awesome reference!
Heh, I didn't even thought about coding in the Virtual Desktop mode:))) But that's an idea :))
I actually went with the Vive Pro kit, because of the specs, the tracking system and so on, but mostly because I can't find a new O+ in the UK from respectable supplier (apparently they weren't launched in the EU/UK) and I didn't want to pay around 600£ + shipping (and maybe import tax for it).
Plus on Amazon, if I don't like it I can return it hassle-free.
The lens mod pack, I bought it for the future in case I will want to experiment and see what the improvement is;)
Many many thanks with the help, to everyone!

Hi Halifax, I don't think you'll regret it as apart from the cash outlay the vive pro seems to be widely regarded as the best overall package.
I assume you saw the post I made? You're right that the O+ was never released over here or in wider Europe. Like I said, you can get it imported hassle free for about £320 when it's on offer though. Regardless, hope you really enjoy the vive pro :-)

Yeah, I saw your post! I literally spent all day (when I could) trying to find a place where I could buy the O+... Unfortunately the best place was a Chinese e-shop:
https://www.eglobalcentraluk.com/samsung-hmd-odyssey-xe800zba-hc1-windows-mixed-reality-headset-2018.html
which looks and feels a bit dodgy (although some people claim it is legit and problem-free):
https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/eglobalcentraluk.com
So... I decided to go with something that I am sure of and if I don't like it, I can return it :) (Yes, the price wasn't the most user friendly one, but it was either this or another 2080Ti for 3D Vision and the current driver... And since SLI was always almost non-working "out-of-the-box" I decided is time to do something else for a change :) And since there is a lot of push and hype for VR/Mixed Reality, I thought this is the way to go. My next dream is to play Witcher3 in VR, as my dream was to play SW:KOTOR in 3D Vision - which I managed to do and still play it ^_^)
Since the Vive Pro is apparently the best (ergonomics and spec wise) and I don't own a previous version of the Vive or VR set (I had a DK2 to play with for 2 weeks like 5-6 years ago?! I really can't remember.) I decided to go all in.
I guess, If I don't like it, I can return it to Amazon and wait for September and Valve Index.... but those LCD panels in the Index... (than again I am used to LCD panels from 3D Vision...)
I think this is the major problem with VR, like Bo3b said... it's a freaking "AM Radio" you get the signal but mono and with static all around you... (for better or for worse).

Yes, I do wear glasses every single day :) I am not blind without the glasses, but they do help me out;)
FWIW, I wear glasses and have no problems with them in the Vive-Pro. Obviously there will be factors like profile of your glasses as mine are quite low profile but there is quite a bit of space in there to accommodate glasses.
Does anyone know if the controls can work without the VR headset? I like the Valve Index concept for the hand controllers and I use head tracking equipment that works great. I run X-Plane in VR and it has a native VR mode where you do actually control the plane by flicking and switching knobs using your hands (ie the controllers). It really adds to the immersion.
I doubt MSFX will support that though. I also use a MSFFB2 joystick with X-Plane which has very few buttons so the ability to manipulate the controls in the plane directly is a god send.

Thank you for taking the time and posting this information. You have been a great help.
