Upgrade opinions 570sli to 780ti
Well, it's tax return season, and I was thinking about a potential upgrade. I was planning on getting a couple of gtx 780's for sli, but fate killed that plan with my wife having a bad car accident (she's ok) but completely destroying our vehicle. So we have to buy a car. But I should have enough left over to maybe buy a 780ti. What I really want to know is, how much performance improvement would I see going from 570sli to one 780ti? Especially in 3d Vision, which we all love and want best performance. I know it has more vram which would be vital in future games with massive textures (been thinking about witcher 3), and there is the benefit of a single gpu with less heat and power consumption. Overall, should I spend the money or wait till the 800 series? Whatever opinion anyone has, I'd love to hear it. Thanks guys.

That'd be a pretty good bump in performance. Not possible to say exactly how much because of so many variables in different games. However, here is my favorite NVidia graph: Note that the GTX 590 (same family as 570 and SLI) is itself quite a bit less than a single 780ti. You can also compare the difference of a 570 there to a 580, and get a rough idea. A single 770 is roughly comparable to SLI GTX 580, so it's not going to work miracles, but it will be a nice bump. If you go through this Anandtech review, you can see how a 770 compares to a 780ti, and if you use 770 as a rough metric for your dual 570, you can maybe get a sense for how it would play in current games. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7492/the-geforce-gtx-780-ti-review/4 Having noted all that, I'd still wait for the 880 to at least see what it has to offer, or at a minimum wait for it to push the price of 780ti down.

Well, I have moved from a GTX590 (equivalent of 2x570) to 2x GTX780 Ti. Did alot of testing in the first week. Results are: - the GTX 590 still kicks ass in 3d Vision on ONE monitor. - the GTX780 Ti provides overall about twice the performance of a GTX590 in single screen 3D vision (I can now mostly have 60fps constantly in every game in 3D vision with some exceptions) - 2x 780 Ti are POINTLESS in 3D vision one single screen. - 2x780 Ti are the way to go for 3D Vision Surround (3 screens) So....bottom line.. you will get about twice the performance in single screen, but I wouldn't recommend SLI unless you push more than one screen.

Look up the benchmarks, but you may end up better off with SLI 770s. Similar price, but SLI in 3d often gives twice the performance over a single card - so while a 780 may do better in 2d, SLI 770s will likely outperform in 3d.

Given that 3DVision generally scales really well on 2xSLI the performance improvement might not be enough to justify the cost. Personally I don't buy into the lack of need for multiple high end cards for a single monitor. Granted, there are only a handful of games that require/benefit from having "to much GPU" but I'd agree that sticking with a SLI setup with 3DVision (even on a single monitor) makes more sense to me than trying to rely on a single card. With that said, I'd suggest staying away from the ACX version and while the 780ti is currently "top of the line", the 780 and even 770 (ether in SLI) are viable options as upgrade to SLI570's. (personally I went from GTX460=>GTX460SLI=>GTX570SC-SLI=>GTX780SC-SLI)
