I have an acer x34a ultra widescreen monitor with g sync, a HTC Vive and a Panasonic PT-AT6000e projector and they all have pro and cons.
For immersion, nothing beats the vive. Like bo3b says, it literally transports you inside the game. You still have your instincts and fears when you play in VR. It truely is awe inspiring.
VR spawns new genres and game designs and truly feels like the future.
When I play fps like battlefield online, I play on my monitor with G sync as I play the best on that. 3D adds too much input lag for me in competitive FPS games and the screen is too big on the projector for competitive fps too.
Having to turn your head is not good for twitch shooters!
3D vision is amazing on the projector for 3rd person games, street fighter games and the likes.
I have a blacked out man cave with a silver ticket 120" screen and it is amazing for rocket league, tombraider, street fighter and FPS campaigns etc.
VR is the most immersive without a doubt IMO

If its using passive glasses theres no ghosting? With the EDID do you get funny things like monitor switching off at random times?
Yes, Ghosting is definitely there with the passive 4K-TV but it doesn't bother me that much! The EDID works like a charm. Absolutely no "funny things" like monitor switching off so far!

That is exactly what SURROUND IS NOT! IS NOT A ZOOM EFFECT. Getting a bigger screen is JUST A BIG ZOOM EFFECT.
Why don't you get a Projector then and Project on a 120000 feet wall? Sure You can actually get the characters to be 1:1 scale with you;) Is that about Seeing more? (exactly what surrounds Offers?)
I have to admit that I also love the fact that you get to "see more" when using Surround. Curiously I loved that aspect the most in games that some think are not really meant for Surround (Beat'em Ups like Mortal Kombat X or Sports games like the WWE 2K series). In surround you get to see things that are just not rendered on a single monitor. On the other hand the huge scale of a 55/65"-set carves out fine details like changing facial expressions that you just won't notice on a 24/27"-monitor.
Unfortunately I could only convince myself to use my Surround Setup in those games mentioned above while I still preferred my Sony 720p HMZ for all games where immersion plays a big role (like Witcher-series, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, etc.....)
I bought my first 3D Vision Surround setup back in 2012 with the plan in mind to sell my Sony HMZ. Don't get me wrong I loved my Sony HMZ but since everyone hyped 3D Vision Surround as the undisputable king of 3D Vision back then I was sure that I would feel the same way. I even bought a complete new PC so I would be able to properly run 3D Vision Surround. After extensive side-by-side testing I ended up keeping the new rig but sending back the 3 monitors because immersion-wise 3D Vision Surround (while being pretty impressive) didn't really cut it for me when comparing it to my Sony HMZ with its 720p only but hugely perceived picture. So I kept my HMZ for years to come but also added 3D Vision Surround again 2 years ago for all those games where I wanted 1080p 3D and where I felt immersion was not the main-factor.
When it comes to immersion there is absolutely no denying that bigger is always better. And while you can achieve this with Surround on a horizontal level you just don't achieve it vertical. So it's always like looking at a huge monitor-strip and it is this strip-like perception combined with the rather small scale of objects and characters that take away from the immersion.
In no way you can dispose a bigger display as being nothing more than a Zoom-factor. Concerning projectors I am definitely with you in terms of brightness, clarity and even resolution. With a picture that huge the resolution suffers big time and that is exactly the reason why the 55/65" 4K TV is a godsend for me because it maintains huge scale and at the same time the visual quality I appreciate on a 24/27"-monitor.
I am not "defending" Surround because I have it and paid money for it (It will actually be cheaper to go to single BIG Monitor/TV). But I do defend the "immersion" factor;) which you can't compare it even with a 101' TV (unless you make Surround out of those TVs ^_^)
What kind of tech you are using for Surround, helifax!? ;-)
If only the 65" OLED 4K LG was even in the price-range of a Surround Setup I would have happily jumped around in circles! Unfortunately this beast cost me more money than 2 sets of 3D Vision surround (and I even bought it 50% cheaper than the recommended retail price).

Having used super-sampling extensively on both Vive and Rift, I think what you might be seeing is that the games for Rift and Vive default to fairly bad resolutions in order to meet the GTX 970 min spec. When I crank up the SS even a little bit, it's my impression that the Vive is better visually than what I saw with PSVR.
All in all, it was an OK experience, but the tracking is going to be too weak I think. Had multiple instances of floating room effect where it lost the headset, and the hands would not always track.
I am also a heavy Super-sampling user on Rift and Vive and compared my PS-VR impression to the already "super-sampled" Rift and Vive. Somehow the minimized screen-door effect does a lot for me "immersion"-wise although resolution is definitely better on Rift/Vive. I also like the PS VR's lenses more as they are no Fresnel-lenses which means with Playstation VR you don't have the god-ray issue.
PS VR's tracking is definitely inferior to the Vive and also the Rift...by far! But so far it worked surprisingly well for me. The Move-tech was released in 2010 so I was really surprised how good it hold up but there is no denying it's inferior to the other headsets' tracking systems.

I didn't look at the review for the Scores but at what is offered...
COMPARE THIS TO SW: Battlefront, Witcher 3, Battlefield 1 or ANY 3D Vision Games...:-s
We really NEED TO LET THE DEVS and MANUFACTURERS KNOW that this is CRAP and they can do WAY BETTER!

Great finding CeeJayll!
You can indeed simulate 3D Vision Surround on the single 4K TV by choosing a custom resolution that uses all horizontal lines and the vertical lines proportionally. This way you get the full 3D Vision Surround experience with "more" being rendered on screen (plus you get rid of the bezels).
Keep in mind that the displayed window gets really small if you want to mimic the full 5760x1080 experience. In that case you need to choose 3840x720 resolution.
Of course you can choose any resolution in between like 3840x1440 or 3840x1600!

Yupp;) This actually a cool idea;) You can basically simulate pretty much how 3D Surround looks like;)
The size of the screen is pretty close (well 27' x 3 = 81 inch, but for 21 monitors x 3 = 63' which is damn close).
Awesome thinking there;)

Sadly on my TV it only works with Quantum break in proper 3860x1440 (which is cool because it need less power). In all other games the picture is stretch down while I put "no scale" in nvidia control panel... So bad because I really like the surround feeling!
Helifax, in Surround mode in Quantum Break, do you have black bars on the Edge in cinematics or did you find a workaround?

Yeah CeejayII, "override game settings checkbox" is always checked, that's why I don't understand why games keep always stretching the picture... Quantum Break is fooled by my desktop resolution 3840x1440 and when I put the in game resolution 3440x1440, it gives me 3840x1440 :) But I'd like to have this in all games 46" UW screen is pretty cool

Have to take that back!
After having another look at EPIC GAME'S fully super-sampled Unreal 4 engine tech-demo "Showdown" I have to admit that this one totally flashed me...AGAIN!
Although I had launched it on my Rift multiple times before it seems I forgot just how impressive it was/is!
So I am not longer rating one VR-headset over the other. I love them all! ;-)

You have to go to the display/graphics options and select 'Borderless Window' for some games to emulate ultrawide screen.

Yes, Ghosting is definitely there with the passive 4K-TV but it doesn't bother me that much! The EDID works like a charm. Absolutely no "funny things" like monitor switching off so far!
That's interesting! Did I get it right that you have to set the custom resolution via Nvidia Control Panel and then you are able to "simulate" 3D Vision Surround in all those Surround compatible games with the Surround benefit of having rendered "more" on screen minus the distracting bezels (because everything is still displayed on your single TV)?
THE GRAPHICS MAN.. remind me of the BEFORE 2000 era...

Happy to share, of course this isn't my original idea though. I asked someone on a forum if it was possible before making the 4K plunge. It's great though, right? I don't go lower than 3840x1080 myself and do most normal gaming at 3840x1600.
Chitblue, I remember you were having trouble before. Are checking the override game settings checkbox in scaling options? Whenever I forget to check that box my screen is stretched too.

I love them all! ;-)
UW 3840x1620 works great in Witcher 3 too. I don't understand qhy it works on some games (W3 ans QB) and not with others (MGSPP & DEMD)... It's seems it's not overrides game's mode.
