Rift in 3d? when?

71000 views now, and they can't be bothered to respond with even a hint of why that website says Rift supports 3D Vision, or what kind of time frame we could expect. I just find it really disappointing that Andrew responds to yelling, ranting threads like Jenson's soliloquies about nVidia failure but can't give the common courtesy of responding a line of text about one of the most popular games out there right now. I don't get it /shrug.

Andrew has said in several places the Rift profile will be in the next major driver release. It seems he can't say when that will be released though.

Hm, ok. My bad then. I didn't see that anywhere. Did he say what issues the profile alone will fix? I'll see if I can find the post(s)

Anyone tried the Beta 270 drivers with Rift yet?

http://blogs.nvidia.com/2011/03/release-270-beta-drivers-are-available-for-download/#comments

Edit: Oh I see that it's rated "poor" on the compatability list.

That's quite brilliant; one of the most popular games currently existing, and probably will be for quite some time. Was anything actually looked into other than just slapping a profile on it for the sake of it?

Great work.

Edit 2: Why the &^#$ does the Geforce webpage linked earlier say that we can enjoy Rift with 3D vision? Why is that page there Andrew? I had high hopes for the new drivers, kind of a slap in the face since we'd been lead to believe that there would be improvements.

Ah, I just read it again.... it simply says that you have teamed up with Trion Worlds to DELIVER SLI and 3D Vision performance. I suppose that just means "sometime in the future". Very clever false advertising, I'll have to pay better attention to deliberately deceiving wording. Sorry for my ignorance of your lawyer-esque wording.

I'm frustrated with this as well, but I really have to blame the Trion development crew. They should have designed their game around 3D from the beginning!

Well, this is completely unacceptable.

Now that you've profiled the game, nVidia, it's even WORSE than it was before.

Turning the glasses on just plain Fs it up so bad you can't even see what's on the screen.

What's more, is that your compatability page shows it as "poor" and when you run the game it says "not recommended".

Judas Preist, one of the most popular games released this year and it's in the category of absolute crap (not that you can even agree with yourselves on which degree of crap) with a mere handful of other titles for 3D. Absolutely ridiculous.

The only REAL problems are shadows and lighting and I don't understand why you can't fix that in the profile. Maybe you should hire Jenson after all at least he would put some effort into it and TALK TO US about wtf is going on with this game, where you're at with Trion about it instead of just silence. Cutting edge product can't play cutting edge games. It took nVidia MONTHS to fix UI issues in WoW which were nVidia's fault for breaking, I guess I shouldn't be surprized. Maybe if AMD actually gets their ass in gear we'll see some movement in this product that's notable. Today's drivers had some good things in them, things that a fraction of this already niche forum can make use of... Pretty hard to sell 3DV to friends when it doesn't fricking on work on the game they're most excited about.

I got one friend to buy it because it worked with WoW; now that he's moved to Rift he's already regretting the purchase and I feel bad for recommending it to him now. This is a joke; the beta was LONG, and the game has been retail live for a month + a week of headstart all that was was accomplished was making it WORSE.

RIFT is working properly with 3D Vision Surround as of 275.27 beta drivers and the current RIFT patch. Last week RIFT was 100% unplayable in 3D Vision, tonight most everything is working great. What a change IMHO.

I almost jumped out of my chair reading this. I haven't touched it for a long time, awaiting 3D support. So, I jumped in to see the changes.

For me at least, yes, there are no artifacts (or very litle), and it works. However, it sort of made 3D useless, because for me everything except the cursor is at the same depth: The world, the UI, everything. And the cursor is still in 2D. Are you having different results BHawthorne?

So, while it is great to see that they are working on it, and this is a step in the right direction, so far it almost seems that they basically removed 3D from the game. It is just like watching a 2D game in a box, sort of.

But again, some improvements are better than none, it shows that it is in the works.

Ah I just stated the same in the other thread. So for what it's worth, everything is on the same depth (has the same separation) here as well.

I'm confused ... is this good or bad?

Should I finally give Rift a try again? Been waiting on the 3d to start working

It is bad. It is just like 2D, but at a different depth than your actual screen.

I tried it and it's the same with and without the 3d glasses once you get the convergence right lol it's like you can't have 3d vision on the game any more.

I tried the Witcher 2 trick of starting the game with the 3D stereoscopic service stopped, and then started it after in the game. Somehow it made it so half the image was red and half the image blue. Maybe I should have gone down to the dollar store to get some of the old red/blue movie glasses. LoL.
