I'm planning on purchasing an Acer HN274H to be able to use 3d vision - however I'm a little bit worried since different sources gave me different results...
I currently have 1x GTX260 (216c) 1792mb card (planning on adding a GT240 eventually for multi-monitor support + PhysX) and my question is quite simple:
Should I upgrade or is it enough?
I'm not an extreme hardcore gamer, I would consider myself a casual gamer, I play most games that are released and I don't feel that it's necessary to put all settings to maximum.
That said at the moment with my current setup I never encountered any problems while playing most games at 1920x1200 with most of the setting turned up.
I plan on using 3D mostly while playing PES with my buddies, CS:S online and well most games too as long as they support it correctly.
SLI is not really an option since I only have 2x pcie slots on my mobo and I need the second one for 2+ monitors setup (something which can't be done if I use it for SLI) and after shelling out about €600 for the new monitor I'm a little bit reluctant to shell out more for the vid card so... should I?
I would really appreciate feedback from people that have a similar setup and tell me what was their experience in playing 3D over a single GTX260

If its only 2 monitors, you can run that off 1 card afaik, i always have. If it is more than 2, I don't see why it wouldn't work SLI? I had a GTX 260 before I upgraded to the 480, I had about 2 days of 3D with it before my 480 arrived, and it ran pretty much everything pretty smoothly, you might have to turn down some settings here and there, but it was fine for most things, it would definately be fine for CS:S, source engine games always have high FPS.
Generally, if you check your frame rates, expect it to be halved with 3D turned on.

At the moment it's only 2 monitors, but once the new one arrives I'm planning to keep all 3 of them at the same time (apparently 2 cards in SLI only give you up to 2 monitors)
In any case, I'll only use one monitor (the 3D one) for gaming, the rest for other concurrent stuff
But I'll take your word for it, I don't mind turning down some settings when necessary :)

I remember Assasins Creed Brotherhood was slightly laggy when maxed out and Metro 2033 is a bit of a beast, but most games were fine. The 260 is a pretty good card, I had mine for a few years til I built myself a new comp for 3D.

Still using my GTX 260 without serious performance problems. As You often have to turn off shadows, post effects and sometimes AA to prevent issues with S3D anyway the performance a game needs is often reduced. So especially the 3D Vision ready titles that would allow You to set everything (shadows, effects,...) to max often causes perfomance problems (e.g. Just Cuase 2). In this case You have to reduce the graphic quality settings a little bit. But the games are still playable and are looking much better in S3D with reduced quality settings than in 2D with maximum settings.
As long as the games are still developed for the current "next gen" consoles (PS3, XBox 360) even a GTX 260 can handle most of the actual games.

Sad but true =( Consoles are ridiculously out dated. But yeh, the 260 did seem fine for most games, only with the more intense ones needing some reduced settings. I did only run it on 3D for a couple days til my new card turned up tho, but knowing what to expect can help. Like 3d4dd said, you generally can or have to turn off/down Anti Aliasing and shadows, so that can help a bit too.

gtx 260 works for 3D, i used it for about a year. it plays some games, like L4D and stuff fine in 3D maxed out, except for maybe AA not maxed. but other things like metro and newer games will need to be run on a more medium setting.
I upgraded from a 260 to a 570 and it was a huge difference. even tho l4D ran good on my 260, im able to run it totally cranked up and get a solid 60+ fps, which is soooo much nicer. i can run almost any game in 3D on high settings now without poor framerate. plus the 570 OCed great, by like 200mhz, whereas the 260 i had i could never get 100mhz out of.
but yeah like others said, youll be able to run any game in 3D pretty much, you'll just have to kill some AA and shadows to get smooth framerates.

Like everyone else above with the GTX 260, I've had no serious issues playing any games in 3D or watching 3D Blu-ray movies. I've primarily changed some game settings to get a better 3D effect, not because of performance issues. I recently upgreaded my monitor to the Acer HN274H and am in 3D heaven with my current set up. I don't plan to upgrade my graphics card until a must have game won't run properly on my GTX 260. This is a solid graphics card.

260 will work, but it will be bare minimum for playing in 3D. I mean, if you just want to play CS:S, then sure. But most modern games you will have to put settings on low to get a decent experience. Feel free to try it out, but I would recommend getting something better. Personally, I use the GTX 470, and find that it is pretty decent. But even then, with more intensive games like Metro 2033 I have to but all settings on low to get good framerates in 3D. It also nice to have a fast machine so you can run 2D games at the full 120Hz. It looks nice. Also, 260 cannot decode Blu-Ray 3D in hardware so watching 3D Blu-Rays may be choppy.
