3D not working on Linux
I have a Linux system with a Quadro 4000 graphics card and Asus VG278H monitor with Nvidia 3D vision2 glasses. I would like to use the system with molecular modelling programs such as VMD and pymol. I have OpenSuse 12.2 as the operating system with the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.32 driver. However, I am not able to get 3D images using pymol or VMD. VMD recognises the Quadro graphics card (see below) but if I choose quad buffered stereo I get two images, one above the other and not 3D! Any advice appreciated. Found that we needed to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf. (Changed sections are below). We added the FlatPanelProperties line to the "Device" section. The Stereo option was added to the "Screen" section and we added the "Extensions" section to turn off the composite option. Works now! Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = Native" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "Stereo" "10" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "off" EndSection

So you can use 3D on linux? With steams push of linux games might it actually become a true platform for gaming? Good news, nice fix dkchalmers.
