I just checked the distance to my 60" again and it's more like 7.0 feet at max (may be in the 6 feet range while playing console or watching blu-rays because you are not sitting like a statue on the sofa while doing that). So with the significant higher resolution 4 feet distance seems indeed very manageable :-)

I have installed the edid, but i have not found a single topic when explain what should happen later. I mean the following
having a 4k tv lg 55ef9500 (55ef950 in europe), i gave succed only to obtain a 1920x1080 60hz 12bit full, 3d image setting the 3d tv mode to interleaved horizontal
1) which desktop resolution refresh rate and bit have i to set ?
2) have i to press the 3D button on tv remote to enable 3d ?
3) which 3d version given by the TV have i to chose ?
4) which would be the final resolution to my eyes ?
5) everytime i start a game, the nvidia popup say me that it is not a 3d resolution compliant, even if it works....ok....but the toggle keys dont work, so how can i change the 3d parameter without the hotkey definied in the nvidia control panel
6) which in game resolution have i to set ?
7) is this resolution 3d supported 3840x2160x8bit rgb 30hz ?
8) black borders appers to 3d image side, how can i remove them ?
9) texts horizontal resolution are poor, there is a way to improve them ?
10) if i disable the tv 3d, would be better for any reason to disable the 3dtv from nvidia control panel ?

This is also what I am scared of. My TV will arrive any day now and so far I couldn't find any place where the whole matter is summed up in a comprehensive step-by-step guide. It seems all the information is obviously there but scattered across numerous threads and since I don't know of every single step that has to be done you could easily miss something because you even aren't aware that you are missing something.

ronzino - did you use joker18's EDID (it has worked great for 3 different LG 4K 3D TV models I have used)? It establishes 3840x2160 2D Desktop and interleaved 3840x2160 3D (60 Hz). Do NOT press the TV's 3D button - the 3D is automatic, whenever a game uses 3840x2160 in-game resolution. The NVIDIA Control Panel should show Optimized for NVIDIA GeForce, rather than 3DTV Play, as the 3D application. Note this EDID does NOT work for 30 Hz Desktop, just 60 Hz.
All 3D Vision keyboard controls work (like turning 3D on/off, or changing/saving convergence), if you use 3DVisionEye Swapper app for swapping L/R eyes (also necessary). These standard 3D Vision keyboard controls also determine how borders are displayed.
lohan - if you have any problems, several of us can help, if you get stuck...
NVIDIA - please update 3DTV Play to 2016 standards, so this type of work-around is NOT required!

Right! It's unfathomable that they haven't done so already.
@Lohan, make sure that you contact them and express your disappointment that official support is 720P@60 Frame Packed.

of course i use it.
but there is something that i am not understanding.
desktop resolution set as you said.
than enable in 3dtv play the option. so i have selected 3DTV Play mode.
Than i have starded Unigine Valley benchmark without activate its native 3d option
result NO 3D.
than changed in the nvidia CP the 3d mode from 3DTv Play to Chessboard
tested the Unigine Valley without activate its native 3d option
result NO 3D
than tried those
Nvidia CP 3d mode in 3DTVplay Unigine Valley in 3D mode = interleaved
result 3D but the nvidia RED popup text appears, and the nvidia 3d shurtcut hotkey doesnt works
Nvidia CP 3d mode in CHESSBOARD Unigine Valley in 3D mode = interleaved
result 3D but the nvidia RED popup text DOES NOT appears, and the nvidia 3d shurtcut hotkey WORKS BUUUUT i have to set a 3D depth = 1 that give the same result of disabling the 3d with the shortcut (ctrl+t).
EVEN IF the 3d is disabled by shortcut, i have the 3d.
SO
my question is..... is a game to work with this unoffical patch have to support a native INTERLEAVED 3D mode in order to work ?

A game simply needs 3D Vision to work properly with the game. The display mode is automatically handled by the EDID mod.
It sounds like the EDID mod is not enabled, if you still see 3DTV Play as your 3D mode in the Control Panel.
Which OS do you have, and are you using Windows Device Manager to override Monitor driver with EDID file?
my os is win10 x64 and i have used windows device manager to override rebooting in no digital signature mode
[quote="whyme466"]A game simply needs 3D Vision to work properly with the game. The display mode is automatically handled by the EDID mod.

so first information, A GAME NEED THE OPTION FOR 3D VISION, that is totaly different from the original 3dtv play which can be enabled in every game (of course with differnet results)
I have a license installed of 3dtv play
Edid mod is installed and work properly (i have do manualy modify the edid as i have a 7.1 audio amplifier and i lost 7.1 audio with this edid as it was designed for 2.0 tv)
SO,
in the nvidia cp, under the 3d option i see the logo of 3dtv play, BUT i can chose to option for a select box
3dtv play
or
board HDMI (i have the driver in italian and it translate as chessboard)
the only way to get the 3d working at 3840x2160 is to set the second option "board hdmi"
BUT
i have to use the in game 3d deep and convergance control, as most of the time the official nvidia controls do not have any effect
it is in any case required to enable the 3d that i push the hotkey to enable 3dvision
i am going to check if i can uninstall 3dtv play...
3dtv play unintalled,
now i have enabled the 3d in the nvidia control panel and it writes BLuray 3d hdmi 1.4 optimized, and the button to define the hotkeys of the 3dtv play is disabled.
could you please take a screenshot of your nvidia control panel stereoscopic 3d page so i can crosscheck ?

It should say "Nvidia's stereoscopic drivers" instead of 3D Vision.
By using this EDID override, you are accessing "Nvidia's stereoscopic drivers" via "Optomized for Nvidia GeForce" because it's the only option for Line Interleaved output.

There is no need to uninstall 3DTV Play.
Note that 3DTV Play has a 5 activation limit before you need to jump through hoops to get it reset. So just leave it in.
If you have the EDID installed properly, you'll see the GeForce logo in the control panel instead of 3DTV Play.
I'm talking about him referring to 3D Vision. 3D Vision does not work with TVs!! By him saying 3D Vision it was misleading. (Nvidia should have came up with a better naming scheme)
There are 4 ways to access Nvidia's stereoscopic drivers/gaming middleware.
3D Vision Discover
3D Vision
3DTV Play
Optomized for Nvidia GeForce <-----the only option that outputs Line Interleaved

ronzino - if you do not see a settings screen like D-Man11 posted (mine says Acer Passive 3D LCD, rather than Zalman 3D Display), you have not modified the EDID correctly. It sounds like you have modified the EDID for sound support. I used joker18's EDID without any type of change (my 5.1 surround sound is decoupled from HDMI via separate sound card and optical cable connection).
Sorry for any confusion about my 3D Vision statement. I meant that if a game is supported by 3D Vision, like the games listed at helixmod.blogspot.com, then it should work with the EDID. A game does not need to have an explicit 3D Vision support option.
I have not uninstalled 3DTV Play to work with this EDID - 3DTV Play is simply not used.

I just received my LG 55EF950V yesterday. I already placed it on my desk and just minutes ago I deactivated the signature validation in Windows10.
Now I want to do the EDID override-step so I just downloaded joker18's EDID files that whyme already mentioned.
It's posting #114 from here

But since there should only 1 file be needed for doing the override I wonder why joker has provided 2 files. Which one should I use and what's the difference between the 2 files?
1. file: 55UC970_modat.inf
2. file: 55UC970.inf
I also downloaded the little 3D_Visison_eye_swapper application. Am I right that I have to run the swapper-application everytime before I launch a game in 3D Vision!?
