Samsung UE55D8005 3D 60 fps ? Nvidia or Samsung ?
Hi all ...

I am getting this TV by the end of this week. I read today, that it is only the Samsung 2010 models, that does PC 3D at 60 fps ?

Can this be thrue ? Is this the software from Nvidia, or the Samsung TV that causes this ?

Will it be fixed or did i just buy a 4500 $ TV that does not support Nvidia 3D 60 fps ? DAMMIT :0(

AAll 3d tvs do 60 fps. I think u are referring to a four year old checkerboard mode. Which is half rez 1080p and generally considered better than 1080 p 24 and generally better than 720p60 scaled on a 1080p.tv. I say generally because imo 720p on a projector is still the best 3d i have seen.

Out of the box u can run only 720p60 on the sammy or 1080p24, which sucks for gaming. You can hack the tvto run checkerboard. Do a search to see how. But this is not supported. Checkerboard does work with dlp tv. And the dlp is much cheaper and has better 3d than any other tv. The sammys have lots of cross talk. Dlp has zero. U can get a dlp for 1000 in 65" if u live in us. I just saw a barley used 73" dlp for 800 on crags list here in cal.

I would return it and save your money for real hd 3d tv. This generation has bad ghosting and poor 3d performance. That's what i did on a Panasonic plasma. Smartest return i ever did.

Its up too you what is important. Some people real want hd blue ray. Others are hard core gamers. Personally, im waiting for a tv that can game in hd and blue ray. I don't like paying 5000$ for tech that is missing important features and cannot even surpass seven year old Mitsubishi dlp image quality.

System:

Intel I7 920 overclocked to 4ghz

Asus Rampage Extreme II

2 Ge-force 480 in SLI

GTX 295 PhysX Card

12gb ddr3 2000mhz ram

Intel SSD in RAID 0

BR RW

1000w Sony surround sound

NVIDIA 3D Vision

3d displays tested:

Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)

Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)

Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)

23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)

Samsung 65D8000

Don't know about DanielJoy, but I actually own that tv (or the United States equivalent, to be exact). So I can speak from experience versus rumor. I think your model would support 1080 in checkerboard format since the UN55D8000 does. The US model 7000 and up support this mode. This is pretty much the best 3D mode you are going to get out of a TV since the HDMI cable/spec/interface is limited to either 720p60 or 1080p24, and so far there is no supported way to use two cables to send the info.

Checkerboard can be achieved with either 3rd party drivers from iz3d or tridef. Nvidia has claimed they are working to include checkerboard support at some point in the future (hopefully soon, but some on this forum are not optimistic about that)

That is a BEAUTIFUL tv with amazing sharpness, color, everything. If you are playing a slower-moving game (like say Dragon Age II or something) you can turn off game mode and turn on all the motion-processing and it makes everything look smoother and nicer at the cost of several milliseconds of latency.

Several factors affect crosstalk, and as someone who owns this tv, I didn't notice a problem. There are people who are completely biased one way or another. Some people hate sony or samsung. Some people love plasmas. Some people love DLPs. A lot of this is based on personal preference, jealousy of more expensive tv's, or people trying to convince themselves that they always own the best thing and everything else is garbage.

For everything other than 3D gaming, this tv is amazing. And I personally think it's a great tv for 3D gaming too. But each person has there own preference. I'd say don't listen to other people (including me). Just look at the tv and decide on your own. I think you'll love it though! Good luck. :)

Samsung virtually dropped native rez/ 60 Hz checkerboard mode in 2011. There are two exceptions:D7000 and D8000 2011 LEDS sets, so you're good. None of the plasma sets have checkerboard after 2010. In 2010, every Samsung had CB mode so that's probably the motivation regarding the "2010 models only" advice.

You will need to obtain a 3D Vision emmiter to do native resolution 60 fps 3D gaming (checkerboard) with your new TV. 3DTV Play does not support checkerboard due to Nvidia's "no user intervention" policy which is unlikely to change. Nvidia doesn't offer any documentation regarding enabling checkerboard in 3D Vision on the Samsung TVs so you'll need to ask for help when you get your TV and your 3D Vision emmiter. Let me know if you need further details.

AustinTex has given the best possible advice in the matter of which TV to use for 3D gaming. Re-read his post, especially the part about questioning the motives of anyone who trashes HDTVs while admitting that they have NEVER SEEN 3D on a Samsung TV. Literally the ONLY people making these criticisms are people who have never seen 3D on a Samsung TV. Likewise, 100% of people who have eyewitnessed the Samsung in CB mode agree that it is much better than any alternative. People who have first hand knowledge (such as AustinTex) are the ones you should be listening to.

Roller11 means you need the 3D Vision emitter only IF you want to use Nvidia's 3D software (3D Vision) and use checkerboard 1080p60 mode. You can use 720p60 or 1080p24 with Nvidia. Or you can use any video card from AMD or Nvidia with the drivers from iz3d or tridef for 1080p60 checkerboard. The reason he and a bunch of other people (including me) want checkerboard support in Nvidia's 3DTV Play is because, in theory, it should always be better not to have to have an extra 3rd party 3D driver running because of various glitches and performance issues. And his hack to get 3D Vision to work on TV's really shouldn't be necessary if Nvidia supported checkerboard in 3dtv play.

If you want to know all the reasons why, read Roller11's long forum thread on the checkerboard fix and you'll be an expert on what we're talking about in no time. He pretty much got this whole thing started and is either loved or hated by most of the people here. :)

Absolutely. You will need the TV and a 3D Vision emitter module and you'll be 3D gaming in native rez in no time.

You betcha! :) The second you're ready, PM me or post to this thread.
BTW, my tutorial thread is no longer current so best to contact me for instructions. You can however download Rollermod.rar from that thread, it has not changed.

Hi,
I have a problem with my samsung ue55d8005 not working properly with my laptop. My laptop is an Asus g74sx. When i run the 3D wizard, it doesn't mention anything about the use of an "3D vision ir emitter", so my guess is that it maybe built-in already...?

My first problem comes when i connect the HDMI cable. My tv says that i have to change the resolution, because it's not compatible. But both the tv and laptop run with 1080p/60Mhz.
So in order to successfully connect my laptop to the tv, i have to set the tv's resolution to a smaller resolution, or (to stay in 1080p) i can also turn the 60/50Mhz down to 30Mhz, to make it work... But that's far from being satisfying.

So far so good... The next problem comes, when i run the 3D wizard (Both screens set to: 720p/60Mhz). At first i can see, the first "3D-menu-screen" on both units, but when i press "Next", my tv becomes black with the message about changing resolution. And on my laptop the next menu-screen is still visible...?

I have tried to change the tv resolution several times and run the 3D wizard, but with the same results every time (Black screen on the tv). I have also tried completing the wizard(on my laptop, while the tv was showing a black screen), then afterwards running the 3D test-screen in several resolutions, where i can actually see the "3D test screen" on my tv, but still it says not compatible with red letters over the test-image, and no 3D effect...

If i close the 3D wizard, and set the tv resolution to either 1080P/30Mhz or 720p/60Mhz, then i can see an image on both screen's again, but still no 3D gaming, and only with a downgraded resolution/Mhz...?

HELP i need somebody
