RAGE: OpenGL or Not?
I see that Nvidia has a profile for RAGE in their newest driver. Does anyone know if that game runs in OpenGL or D3D or both?

And if it does run in OpenGL can Nvidia explain why it apparently is supported in 3D Vision if there's supposed to be no OpenGL support.

It is likely OpenGL (though with the Xbox development a DX port probably wouldn't be super hard).

The 3D Vision profile for Rage has "Not recommended" attached to it. Rage seems like the kind of game Nvidia would put an engineer on to make sure there is a good 3D vision support, so it is likely this game will never be in 3D.

But my point is that if it IS OpenGL and it works, albeit badly, then that means that Nvidia has come up with some kind of wrapper that translates the OGL calls to DirectX in 3D. Perhaps this will work with other OGL games like Doom 3 if you change the name of the exe so that it uses that profile.

There is nothing un-3D about OpenGL, in fact almost any OpenGL app can be 3D using Quad buffering support a feature that is only found on Quadro cards. Having programmed in both I really see now reason why OpenGL can't have the same 3D vision style tech as DirectX, it's probably just a matter of there being so few OpenGL games that its not worth doing.

If it says "not recommended" then that would mean that it works but very badly. OpenGL isn't supposed to work at all unless you've got a Quadro card so there are only a few options:
[list]
[*]The list is referencing how well it works on the Quadro. If that's true, then we'll never be able to trust the list again. It's already extremely dubious for older games - if it goes bad for the newest games (especially after the Witcher 2 fiasco) then there won't be much point in having the list at all.
[*]The game really is going to be in DirectX instead of OpenGL.
[*]The game got categorized wrong. That new driver is a beta, maybe somebody just goofed?
