I love my Dell 27' , if you decide to go with that one, make sure to get newer revision. I also have a 55' 4k oled with edid hacks and the dell still holds its own against the tv.

I have the Asus PG278Q (and there is a PG278QR with added HDMI ports, but I don't trust if will be 100% 3d vision ready), as I know is the only 1440p 3D monitor: 1440P 3D is a whole new level of 3D, worth the money, trust me. But is Asus, you get chances to send it to service (as I did 1 year after buying it).
The next is a 4K 3D TV, it can be unveilable compared to 1080p 3d, as 1440p is amazing.

If you don't have any plans of bying a new GPU, then I'll advice you to stick with your VG248, a 1060 hasn't enough horsepower to 1440p!
I have the Asus PG278QR and ofc it's 3D Vision certified, it's possibly the best you can get ATM !
Asus PG27VQ
It's essentially an 1800R curved PG278QR:

I wish they made one in 21:9. I emailed Asus asking them if this is going to be a possibility.

You need SLI 1080ti for a decent experience at 1440p, in my opinion. Until I upgraded to this I regretted moving to that resolution. If I was focused on surround 3d gaming I still would be playing at 1080p because of this too. If you don't mind sub 30 fps at high settings then it's fine I guess. I can't stand it.

I'm playing perfectly at 3D 1440p with a GTX 1070, no need of SLI, no need of 1080Ti. 1060 is still ok for 1440p.

Older games might work on 1440p without SLI. It will depend. My set ups is 2 Asus Strix 1070 in SLI, with an Asus 27" in 3D, and I was able to run FarCry Primal smoothly maxed out. However, I get a significant drop in frame rates if I try Dishonoured 2 on Ultra.
So I suspect newer games will indeed need a 1080ti to run at 1440p on 3D Vision at maximum settings.
