I disagree. This is not the kind of event to speak about old technologies.
They will speak for sure about future. VR is also mentioned everywhere.
The article posted by D-Man11 sais: Live Webcast Here – Pascal, DX12, VR, GameWorks & More - I'm certain they seen the agenda.

Intel i7 8086K
Gigabyte GTX 1080Ti Aorus Extreme
DDR4 2x8gb 3200mhz Cl14
TV LG OLED65E6V
Windows 10 64bits
They'll talk about everything, but all we care about is gaming related stuff.
A lot of times, they'll announce a new GPU at GTC, since it's an event started by them.
Last year, they announced the TitanX
Hopefully they confirm the 1070/1080 rumors are real.

Also, among the many VR talks they're giving, they seem to be discussing their work on next-gen VR display types. Could be very interesting in that area.

Wow, such perfect timing. I've decided to sell one of my 780's yesterday, partially in preparation of the arrival of Pascal and partially due to being annoyed of it not being able to be used half the time (due to SLI = crap support). I was planning on doing some searching today to find out if there was any new news on a release date. If they are coming at any point in Q2, I think I'll go ahead and sell the other and get by using my 2 580's (clearly I didn't learn my lesson about SLI before :/... that won't happen again) until they arrive.

The announcement is expected today and I'd imagine that the launch will not be too far out.
At what might be 2x the performance, it could be wise to wait for Pascal. Provided that the drivers going forward work with all of the existing fixes. With Manuel posting yesterday and looking to fix bugs, I'd say it's a safe bet.
There's also articles circulating that the GM200 found in the 980ti and TitanX is no longer being made. http://techarx.com/nvidia-reportedly-ending-gtx-980ti-production/
Edit: At what might be 2x the performance per watt (forgot that part)

I kinda find it hard to believe the Pascal will offer 2x performance.... Sure, the Pascal 1080Ti will offer around 2x performance in comparison to the 980Ti and TitanX but the 1070 and 1080 will be pretty much like 970 and 980 was in comparison to 770 and 780 performance wise.
What this means, is that until next year (this period) we will not hear anything that will offer 2x performance vs the current 980Ti & TitanX.
Still nevertheless, looking forward to see what the Pascal has to "really" offer and I mean once is released in the Wild (and not on the datasheet. On datasheets even the GTX280 still looks awesome today;)) )

I been purchasing NVidia since the Riva TNT and found each generation at the most offers 20% more power.
The only time this don't hold true was going from Voodoo 1 to Voodoo 2 this was real increase in performance.
I don't know if it'll be 2X the performance jump but I think this generation of cards are going to pull out the stops.
The performance upgrade over the last few generations have been a bit meh TBH.
Nvidia now have HBM gen 2 which will be massive performance boost for 4K and surround setups. (Especially for 'pop up' textures and viewing distances)
AMD are also hot at the heels of Nvidia for the first time in years, so nvidia are less likely to 'chicken feed' out cards like it feels they have been doing. They will bothered about performance rather than efficiency this time round (I hope)
Pascal is also leap frogging a node as maxwell was supposed to be a lot smaller, so the efficiency and power benefits will also be double of a usual next gen upgrade.
Then there's things like async compute performance. I'd put money on Nvidia having a hardware scheduler for pascal rather than maxwells software scheduler.
This will make a huge performance difference. I know in starwars and tombraider which areas are heavy in async compute.
My fps plummet. (Starwars on inside on the snow level walker assault (1st bunker) and the fire on the sand map with the crashed spaceship in the middle.
These will be the unmeasurable differences!
I'm not 100% on this next one but I'm sure I read (and recently reread) that pascal will be using NVlink instead of SLI.
Someone on this forum said it was pushed back to Volta but I read something contrary to that recently.
There is also the fact that VR needs performance and lots of it. If they could get a 1070 on par with a 980ti, it would make VR a lot more affordable for people put off by the cost of buying/upgrading their PC.
I have a 980ti with a EK block which in happy with but I will happily upgrade if it's worthwhile!
On a side note did you see the leak of the new Intel extreme CPU? 10 cores! :D

NVIDIA SDK!!! NICE! I wonder how much of the driver part is exposed in the SDK;)
