Crytek Interview about S3D gaming! PArt2 :)

part 2 of the Crytek stereoscopic interview
Currently we support several output modes like side by side, a lot of anaglyph modes and the upcoming HDMI 1.4a that is perfect for stereo 3D. Other modes that we support are interlaced and dual head output. Very important: our CryEditor. You are able to develop inside the editor in S-3D to review everything in front of your screen.

The CryENGINE 3 Stereo 3D rendering only has a minimum effect on the performance compared to the 2D version. From the beginning on, that was one of our main goals. To make it crystal-clear: you will hardly realize a performance loss at all if you turn on S-3D. Another goal of ours was to support the same formats in 3D like in 2D. But, people investing in 3D hardware will of course get a much better depth experience.
Interesting that they are not rendering two cameras. I'm sure that makes it great for consoles as far as a performance hit goes, but I have to wonder what sort of affect that is going to have on picture quality for PC users that may have the horsepower to render twice.

Wow, I hope that new rendering technique they're using works with 3d vision. That would be stellar to only have a 1.5% impact on performance! How cool!

my comment there about their "dynamic depth " conception:
Also, I remember that I experienced dynamic depth , when I was ~6 yr old, and always fell asleep while the family was watching DALLASâ„¢ (... you know the ewing's @ the ranch - I remember way too much  ) , before actually falling asleep, I remember that good old CRT TV drawing me in ! It became like 100" !

Someone experienced this? I know it happened , nearly every time!!
ok, so who else had this : ))))))

Please don't leave out checkerboard support, if they support the rest I'm sure it will be included.
Want to play it on my plasma with the 360 and it only supports checkerboard, also will check it out on PC but wouldn't mind a turn on and just play option like the consoles provide.

I'm curious to know how they're able to render the two necessary frames to make an s3D image without any overhead...?

Crysis 2 (based on this engine) comes out in only a few months, no?

Crysis 2 is now scheduled for a 2011 release.. Maybe this has something to do with it ??

Found this old link relating to DX11 and stereoscopic 3D.. http://www.incrysis.com/index.php?option=c...=22&Itemid=

It sounds like they are using some soft of displacement map. In other words, when doing a single viewpoint, they have already calculated the z position (in and out of the screen), so they just do some trickery with that (which only eats 1-2% extra instead of 100%). As to what sort of trickery, your guess is as good as mine at this point.

Very clever. Needless to say this sounds like it will be THE game for s3D and a high-end rig... :)
