First, the video output of your laptop must be routed directly off of the Nvidia GPU. If it's routed off of the CPU graphics, it will not work. Second, Do Not get that monitor. Get one with a Display Port input or you'll have to buy a $100 adapter. edit: the adapter would be needed for the laptop to output Dual Link DVI to the display, provided that the laptop is capable.

To answer your other question, the 1060 would work.

That monitor is ancient. If I were you I would buy one of these: - BenQ XL2411Z / XL2420Z (20Z for displayport): strobing at any refresh rate >=50Hz. - Dell S2716DG: my current monitor. 1440p, also with gsync and ULMB. - Asus PG278Q: same as the Dell, but with more OSD options (and more expensive). - Asus PG248Q: 1080p, but reaches 180Hz with G-Sync. The VG278H has good contrast, IIRC, but none of the other mentioned extra features. And it's only 1080p.

thanks masterotaku... Now, from those options which one is the cheapest? i was planing on the VG278H for the response time it has and the price... is this really noticeable? thanks again.

The cheapest is the BenQ XL2411Z. It should be $280 at the most, I think. But it only has DL-DVI and VGA inputs. Displayport is crazy fast when you change resolution or refresh rate. The XL2411Z was slow in that respect. In case future GPUs don't have DVI ports, buy a momitor with Displayport.

Not sure the BENQ is the right choice for everybody. Does not include the emitter, and no glasses. The VG287H does, depending upon the source. Extra $120 otherwise. I also would recommend not worrying too much about the connections. Even in the off chance they remove DVI, there will always be adapters. These are cheap monitors, and by the time they remove DVI, it'll be time for a new monitor anyway. It's low probability they'll remove DVI. They only just removed VGA/Analog on the latest cards. The monitor response time matters for keeping down ghosting. Lots of other factors though, maybe somebody who has tried both can comment. You won't be able to run the monitor at 144Hz in 3D though, so that extra speed doesn't matter for 3D. If you plan to play 2D, it's probably better. The Alienware laptop won't work for 3D because it has the hated Optimus. That's nearly certain to have it wired wrong for 3D output. If I'm reading this correctly though, you could use the Amplifier. 1060 card on desktop will give you a nice experience with 3D Vision. It's 2x more demanding than normal gaming. Includes a DVI-D Dual Link connector, which will work fine on VG278H or BENQ.
