Descent 3 Does Not Work With 3d Vision As Claimed
My favorite game "Descent 3" doesn't currently work with 3D Vision. Which is funny because 3D Vision lists Descent 3 as Excellent under compatibility. In fact, 3D Vision lists both Descent 3 and the Descent 3 Demo as having excellent compatibility with 3D Vision.

What exactly am I missing? I have not found one message on the entire internet where anyone said they got Descent 3 working with 3D Vision. How is it compatible? Is there some trick to making it work I haven't come across? When I bring up the game and hit the 3D Vision key sequence nothing happens at all. It just doesn't do anything.

Any help greatly appreciated!

I think this is because Descent3 used to be supported under the old Nvidia drivers, back when it was all experimental, and before "3D Vision" came along and standardized on supporting only DirectX9. I think D3 supported OpenGL and Directx8, neither of which are supported by "3D Vision".
Unfortunately the NVidia games compatibility list very misleadingly still contains many of the games from the pre-3D Vision era, even though they are not in fact supported anymore.
You may be able to find a community conversion for D3. I found one for Descent2 and got that working in 3D Vision (details and instructions here http://www.3dsolutiongaming.com/az_articles_v4/Descent2/descent2.html). It requires two community mods: GLDirect to convert OpenGL to DX9, and D2X-Rebirth which allows the original game to run under Windows 7. You may find that you only need GLDirect (if you are lucky). There is also something called TitaniumGL, but I could not get D2 working in stereo 3D with that one.
Good luck.

directx8 works in 3d vision but descent 3 is from the dx6 era, sadly

nvidia really needs to update the driver list, it's a big hole in the product's presentation.

As Mike stated, a lot of the games which worked with our prior 3D stereo drivers before R100 drivers were ported over to our games list. A lot of them may no longer work. Can you give me your GPU and OS so I can file a bug to have this game removed from the list?

If you just "ported over to our games list" all the old reviews for the old drivers then how do we know which games are good or not on the new list for the new drivers?
I guess we can just assume that no game will work with 3D Vision that came before the R100 drivers. What year did R100 drivers come out?
We must know a way to know which games on the list are bull and which have at least a chance of working!

This is very disconcerting to think that NVidia cares so little about its product that this happens. This is such a simple thing. We just need an up to date list of compatible games.

Really, you are relying on the users to remove the games on a case-by-case basis after they buy your product and find out that you're lying? That's pretty outrageous. Those drivers were deprecated ... 3-4 years ago now? It's pretty inexcusable that blatant misrepresentation about game support has taken this long to be removed. These threads come up weekly. There are many many games on that list that are no longer supported, and many that no longer function correctly without modification (Skyrim). Game support changes rapidly and you need to have a better process in place to properly communicate that to your users.
