Maybe at this point the best thing is to create a windows 10 iso with everything needed, from the last working windows 10 update to the final nvidia drivers, so that anyone that want to use 3d vision just needs to create a new partition and install that iso and everything is ready to go.
I think that is a good idea, and for those of us who aren't technically gifted, it would be really nice if someone with the know-how did a step-by-step tutorial right here in the 3D Vision forums.

Windows 10 forcing drivers is such BS. Once this occurs I will delete and go back to using 7 only.

I'm planning on staying on Windows 7 + 425.31 driver. I also had Windows 10 in parallel for some time, but I didn't have much use for it, so I deleted it to save some disk space and only left Windows 7 as my only OS. I use Windows 10 almost every day at work, so I'm very used to it, but I still prefer Windows 7 anyway for several reasons.
sadly someday games won't be no more compatible with win 7
True, but it won't happen soon (at least not on a large scale), and these future games will most likely require drivers newer than 425.31 anyway for one reason or another. As I'm not interested in 2D gaming, I'll have to skip them anyway. If you'll want to play them in 2D, dual boot is a good solution.

Provided that you have no need for dx12 or the performance optimizations of W10, W8.1 is an option and will have support until 2023. I'm unsure if it has any problems with any games, I only used it with a few. It doesn't seem to work with Quad Buffer OpenGl though, at least when tried Jedi Academy native 3D support, it was not rendering correctly. I also tried two other drivers with it to no avail. W7 works fine on the same driver.
Provided that you have no need for dx12 or the performance optimizations of W10, W8.1 is an option and will have support until 2023.
Theoretically yes, Windows 8.1 should be a safer bet as it has a few more years of support from Microsoft. However in practice even now it has worse support than Windows 7. For example the RTX series doesn't even have drivers for Windows 8.x, while Windows 7 drivers are still available. I read that the Windows 7 driver works on Windows 8, but since they don't test it, there might be some bugs that don't exist in 7/10. Even Microsoft itself seems to have abandoned it after Windows 10 release. The reason for poor Windows 8 support is its small market share. Currently it holds less than 5%, and is close to the Windows XP share. Windows 7 and 10 have around 40% of share each. Another point is a personal preference. There's a reason why it never gained any significant market share. For example, I really hate it because it seems like a phone/tablet OS with some desktop features added on top. There are some programs that improve it, but considering that most users and developers abandoned it, I doubt it's worth it.

Just popping in to say that the latest Oculus update is now attempting to force updating my Nvidia driver and is holding my VR library hostage until I do so. In other words, "it has begun." :( I do have Win 7 installed for dual boot, but my game fixing tools and workflow are installed and based on Win 10, and I'm not looking forward to migrating it all to Win 7. Honestly, I have a hard enough time being motivated to play games at all these days (and this is even more true for playing in VR). Adding this type of fragmentation to my daily workflow is going to create havoc for me, like having to decide upon booting if I feel like booting into WIn 7 for regular gaming or or Win 10 for VR is likely going to have me just booting to Win 10 and sitting on Reddit and not playing anything. I already completely ignore my game libraries on Uplay/Origin/Blizzard/GOG because I simply prefer Steam, this is just going to be that for me to the extreme. Dark days are indeed already upon us.

Hi 3D Lovers, Now I read that I'm in the few who still use 3D Vision on the planet Earth. :) This decision hurts me too. But I look forward, I don't want to use windows 7/8. It would be easier for me to buy a VR system. But I don't know how 3D Vision games run on them. They run? Unfortunately, everything is about profit, every TV was 5-6 years old 3D. Today it can be none. This is expected to be VR. And I'll buy one for $ 2,000 now and after five to ten years go to the trash because it's no support. I know it will never be like a keyboard or mouse. Is there a reasonable solution to this?

So the sooner I get over GTAV...it will no longer matter for me if I'm cut off from 3D Vision. Of course every time I play it looks more and more jaw dropping gorgeous in 3D Vision. This really sucks man! The whole dual boot to 7/8 thing is not something that will benefit me neither...like you said it will pretty much lead to me not wanting to be bothered to game in general.

I'm still on 1.36 and haven't been offered an update yet. I'd be interested to know if @DJ-RK has tried @Losti's driver fix and if so, whether or not that made the update screen go away: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1109399/3d-vision/the-way-its-meant-to-be-played-/ Edit: does anyone know of a way of blocking Oculus updates in case this is going to be an issue?
