Learning a little about 3d depth VS pop out of screen exp. let down by game developers.
2 / 2
You should watch the "Nuerburgring" video. The little stones are flying out of the monitor and at the end (after the credits!) the champaign is a great pop-out effect. But i noticed, that the effect becomes bigger, when you're not so close to screen - my monitor is standing in front of me, only 50 cm away, no good effects to see, but when go back a meter - wow!
If you're new to the nvidia 3d, it's difficult to understand or adjust the convergence. And convergence and depth (the one you can control with the little wheel at the ir-emtter box) are two different things!! You can both adjust (the depth with wheel or by keyboard control) - the convergence in game with keyboard keys (Strg +F5 to decrease and Strg +F6 to increase - and Strg +F7 to save the configuration). But you have to know two things: First, you have to ENABLE this option in the NVIDIA Control Panel (Setup stereoscopic 3d/Set keyboard shortcuts/enable advanced keyboard settings). When you press the keys to in-/decrease the convergence, it take some seconds to react....
My way to set the convergence in a game is for example, to zoom in your hero (if it's a over-the-shoulder-view, like in batman or in lotro...) that the shoulder is close to see, then adjust the convergence by bringing the "two pictures" to one (then save it) and zoom out to the heigth of your hero, that you want....

I bet sony would not be happy if 3d vision would be possible somehow with PS3. Because sony is working on there own 3d image for ps3. and if someone would make ps3 3D before them. Then what sony is doing would be worthless and useless. But Anyway. I am pretty sure if you somehow can get a clear 3D signal to your ps3. you can render those games to 3D just like PC games. But the emitter is not allowing it.

I would concur with EVERYONE here.. I want POP OUT!!
recently watched directv 3d..
I found that if I switched my tv from standard to reverse 3D that I actually got pop-out on the WWF show.. the snake came right out of the screen.. I need to test this yet with my nvidia 3d vision on some games.. but...

Hey ALL! It's so easy to do!!!! Go to Nvidia control panel. 3d settings, advanced, enable convergence settings. When in a game HOLD DOWN your keyboard shortcut,(dafault ctrl-F5 and F6) and you'll see the image start to move. Eventueally you will have the closest image pop right OUT. Stop adjusting where your comfortable. SAVE (ctrl-F7). Done. Some 3d vision ready games lock it out, but those games are already ... 3d ready. You can get pop out in almost EVERY SINGLE GAME! Also use a lower depth.30 - 50%.
Shame on nvidia for never having documetation on convergence settings, and how to use it.

am just dredging this thread to discuss more on 'Pop Out' effects on games.
When i played Avatar, I did not get any true 'Pop Out' effects like objects/creatures
popping out of the screen.
When i ran the Stereoscopic 3D Test and the words NVidia pops out beautifully!
I tested increase in depth, convergence etc! I was just blow away by the 3D depth. The words come
right at you!
But i dont get such pop out effects in Avatar.
Is is because of the game? Are the 'pop out' effects based on the implementation and it
varies by each game?

Hey AcidBong, In Avatar when i hold down the I tried holding the Increase Convergence key, it messed up the HUD and minimap, the textures split apart.
Does that happen in every game?

It happens in Avatar because that game uses it's own 3D renderer and you have to use the game menu to set the depth and convergence.
World of Warcraft does it as well.
Other games which don't use their own renderer will be fine when you increase the convergence.

What is the setting for Convergence?
