I had initially hoped to use my PS3 with my projector but ended up selling my PS3 and building a gaming / HTPC.

I can tell you that i dont miss the PS3 for one second. the games are just as playable and in most cases far superior on the PC.[/quote]

Thanks Cragproductions - I do most of my gaming on the PC these days, but would love to have a projector that can offer 3D on my consoles as well. Having said that, it seems that nothing comes close to the H5360 in terms of 3D for the price.

something else I'm wondering about - can anyone confirm whether this projector uses side by side or checkerboard?

And if side by side, I've heard there is two types (where it either splits the signal in 2, or renders 2 full resolution images side by side in a single frame) - does anyone know which type it is?

again, thanks for any advice or help. (still feeling my way with this whole thing)

Neither. It accepts 120hz frame sequential at 1280x720 resolution.

Hi there
I read through this thread last night as I'm looking for a projector for 3d gaming/3d blurays.
I have just ordered an Nvidia geforce gtx 580.
Is the only way to get 3d by buying the nvidia 3d vision?
I need 4 pairs of glasses & read that the nvidia ones are not the best. Is this true?
What would be best for me to buy?
My main worry is I would like to get hd surround & cant figure out how I would do this.
I have a yamaha dsp ax761 av amp upstairs & get nice true hd sound through the ps3 which is plugged in with a simple hdmi cable.
I dont mind buying another amp for this new setup but can it be done? - or should I buy a better sound card for the pc? ( I currently have a creative sounblaster Xfi)
Is it possible to run an hdmi lead from the projector to an av amp & then an hdmi lead from the geforce gtx 580 to the av amp?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm ready to buy but I want to make sure this would be the right projector for what I need.
Thanks in advance.

hey - i can only answer some of these questions, but I'll try to help our where i can.

From the PC, my understanding is that the only way you can get 3D is with nvidia 3d vision. At the moment, i don't think you can get a projector that does both nvidia 3D and ps3 3D. Also there is apparently an adaptor coming that will allow 3d vision projectors to show 3D from ps3's and 360's. If you buy an nvidia 3d vision projector you could just buy a bluray drive for your PC.

I guess you'll need an amp to plug surround sound speakers into no matter how you set things up, so you could just run hdmi and (say) optical from the PC to the amp, the amp will then output surround sound. Run hdmi from the amp to the projector for the picture.

If you have a soundblaster xfi, you have probably found it does surround in DVDs but not in PC games, This is because the xfi does not support Dolby Digital Live (the surround sound used in games). You have to be an x-fi titanium or better to get Dolby Digital Live - i learnt this the expensive way (bought an xfi, fought it for ages trying to get surround in games, bought an xfi titanium).
You *may* (not sure) be able to run a cable from the motherboard/sound card to the 580 and add surround sound to the hdmi coming from the 580 -- someone else would need to confirm this. If that does work you'd need to make sure the amp you buy will decode the surround sound from the hdmi and not just act as a switch (passing the signal through but not decoding the surround sound, some cheaper/older amps do this).

hope that helps...

Thanks, that does answer a few questions.
So if I bought an av amp that decoded the sound - would the xfi gamer sound card I have be able to do this (or do I need a new sound card too)
Can anyone also recommend me a decent projector screen (around 106")
