Left4Dead + Samsung DLP +1080P = Problems
So every time I bump up the resolution to 1920x1080 on Left4Dead on a Samsung HL67A750 DLP It sets the refresh rate at 30hz and automatically turns off the 3D. The only other game Ive tested so far from Valve was Portal and it worked fine at 1080. Left4Dead requires me to go down to a 720 resolution which automatically shrinks on the television but 3D works. Any way around this?

I own a HL61A750 which is the same model of yours - minus a few inches /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> and I play left for dead all the time at 1920 x 1080. I have no problems with any games in 3d vision. Make sure your T.V. is set to Wide PC in the picture settings, this could help. If it doesn't reply and I will go through all my settings and list them all individually!!!! Of course you know you must use HDMI3 to use 3d vision. You also must change the name of the input to PC. If you go to this output you can edit it and rename it. Hope that stuff helps.

Well Im not sure what I did differently but its working just fine now. I think it may have been the updated video drivers.

Note: when I was having problems with 1080 resolution I was using the 3D drivers that came with the glasses and the most recent geforce drivers available. When I downloaded the updated 3D drivers and rolled back the geforce drivers it worked perfectly!

Impressions so far:

Left4Dead - Im very impressed with the 3D here. If you stand in front of the other characters it looks like their gun is sticking out of the tv. Molotov bumtails (nvidia forum keeps changing it to this name) look freaking amazing, very intense feeling when you have a zombie rushing at you, and when a hunter gets you with their tongue or whatever that effect is amazing! Overall Id say the 3d really adds a lot, although it really is something to get used to, the screen is darker for sure, and the samsung DLP has a problem with making the blacks have a red tint to them. Any fix for this? My gf wore the glasses for awhile while I played the game and literally would jump and hide her eyes every time a zombie came running at the screen. So if that is any indication of how well Left4dead works with 3d vision then its worth trying out for sure.

Mass Effect Rated excellent but I didnt seem to see any 3D at all here. Maybe I needed to restart Mass Effect with the recommended settings. Not sure though but with what I did experience Id give it a 0 out of 10

Bioshock Bioshock does add some depth but at a cost. Im running an AMD quad core system with a GTX280 OCd card and I had to turn graphics down to medium, turn off most of the special effects as per the 3Dvision recommends and although the 3D does work I dont really think its worth it for this game. Id say the overall experience is much better with it turned off and with all the graphics turned up as high as they can go. It detracts from the gameplay when although it is in 3D, the graphics look much worse and the frame rate is MUCH worse

Portal I thought Portal looked fantastic with 3D. My gf loved playing it as well even though she really didnt know what she was doing. 3D looked good and didnt really affect the performance TOO much.

Final Thoughts:

I need more time with it. I need to try out some more games to really get a general feeling of how well it works with things. So far I was VERY impressed with Left4Dead. Not blown away like its the coolest thing Ive ever seen, but definitely impressed. Since I didnt have too much luck with the other games aside from portal its hard to really tell. Once I try out everything in my library and check out some of the games listed as excellent I can make a better assessment but so far the experience with Left4Dead alone has made this a worthwhile purchase to me. But I am a tech obsessed geek who had some cash to burn so take that with a grain of salt

Brian S, can you delete this forum? Or edit the listing to say "problem fixed" this gives Samsung DLP users a bed reputation. I completly enjoy my experience with my 3d Ready Samsung HL61A750. The 3d vision kit works extremely well and the all around picture quality on this T.V. (backlit LED VS. Lamp) is much better and produces a better picture quality. I don't want people to see this and say man Samsung DLP's are no good, I want to get a Mitsubishi /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> . Samsungs Rock!!!

yes, Samsung Rock!

>>as for Bioshock>> I think it's fantastic in 3D, plus I run it in high setting with 1920x1080 with my old 8800GT card no problemo ~ :)

specs:

Phenom x4 @ 2.66ghz. Just got a Phenom 2 940 Black edition @ 3.0ghz today so that might help some
4gb Kingston ram at 1066ghz.
GTX 280 1gb ram OCX version
Vista 64bit

Like I said, my experience so far has been mixed. Most of the setup issues had to do with drivers and getting the television to turn the 3d settings on. Once everything was set up correctly my experience Ive previously stated would be my personal opinion on the overall experience so far. Also like I said, I only spent a few hours on it so I havent really had a chance to try in depth. But as first impressions go, it was mixed, but Left4dead was definitely fun, maybe the TV is just too damn big at 67" or Im sitting too close

I have seen your error about being in 30hz while in 1080p, its weird but make sure you PC is connected to HDMI 3

and also make sure then YOU LABEL the input as PC. Try this as it changes the specs in the firmware for PC stuff when its labeled as PC.

I have also seen your bug fixed by a reformat.

Its not normal to have it force to 30hz when in 1080p that is an issue and 3D wont work properly

Just for the record, again the updated drivers fixed these problems I was having. I have to say that the more I play left4dead the more amazing the experience gets! I made a pretty serious investment just to try out 3Dvision without ever trying it and the experience with Left4dead alone is worth every penny

67" Samsung DLP: $1,800
3Dvision : $200
New power supply, video card, mobo, ram, and processor: $975

Total: $2,975 (ouch)

The more I play with 3dvision the more Im convinced it was worth every penny. There really is something surreal about the way Left4dead looks in true stereoscopic 3d. Shooting a zombie that is across a large area and being able to get a head shot with ease due to the added depth perception and having that feeling that Im IN the game is beyond words. It must be tried, find someone you know that has this setup and never leave there house (until you get it for yourself). World at War is also an amazing experience that completely changes the gameplay. I actually am more accurate with it since it is much MUCH easier to focus down the barrel of the gun with the added sense of depth. The Pipboy in Fallout 3 looks like it jumped off the screen! I will soon be writing a full review on here detailing as many games as I possibly can (and combining the experience with a Novint Falcon for even more emersion! Until then all I can say is I had a rocky start with the setup getting everything to work just right. but once it all falls into place it REALLY changes the game! I really hope developers pick up on this trend, add some out of screen effects to games and hopefully fine tune some options for 3Dvision. I cannot overstate how memorable the experience is. It's like playing games for the first time. When things started to feel stale and I started getting somewhat jaded with gaming this setup has reimagined the way gaming should be experienced :)

I showed left 4 dead and world at war to my grandparents and they laughed, smiled, jumped, ducked, and wanted more! They're nearly 80 and they just loved it. Instead of taking the glasses off and shrugging as they would most anything else I could show them, they wanted to see more and more. My grandpa asked if there was 3D porn. :D

Both of them are familiar with 3D theaters (having lots of grandkids) both stated and I quote, "this is a lot better than 3D movies". My grandma asked if the people were "computer people" in world at war (the first one I showed) because they looked so real I suppose.

After about five minutes of playing around while they watched, my grandpa discovered I was moving the characters around and that the gun at the bottom of the screen was "us". He didn't know it was a video game.
