Please help me get 3d working on new monitor ive made video to show problems

OK, like I asked previously. can you select 1920x1080@120Hz as your desktop resolution? Are you using a Dual Link DVI-D cable? Do not assume VERIFY, there's always a chance that the manufacturer included the wrong cable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface There's also the chance that cable could be bad. PLease verify 1920x1080@120Hz is available and working on the desktop. I see the 3D Vision logo in the control panel, so that part looks good. Also some video cards have 2 Dual Link DVI-D connections on the back, some have one, some have none. Please verify that you are indeed connected to the Dual Link DVI-D output of the GPU and that it has one. Also I've read that at times when the emitter is not working, users will disconnect the power to reset the monitor. They might also disconnect the DL DVI-D cable as well, I'm unsure. It's been awhile since I saw the post. GL and from everything I've read, most people absolutely love that monitor.

Yes, that is your emitter at the top. No, you can not see it glow white. It's infra red, thats why I mentioned using a camera to see if it appeared to be on. Read this article and look at the picture he took of the emitter. http://3dvision-blog.com/4455-review-of-the-27-acer-hn274h-3d-vision-ready-lcd-monitor/

survivortv, See attached. Try a couple of those things and let us know if you get past the octagon and triangle. You might get stuck on the floating box... :) Keep trying, this 3D stuff is pretty darn cool.

In the video at 5:12 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=w7SOPXuQe8I#t=311s), you show the setup screen, and the infra red LEDs are black. They should be on, and show white, at that moment. They should look like the image that djb provided, when seen through your camera. When seen with the naked eye, or through the NVidia glasses, you would only see the green activity LED, and even it is not lit. 1) It looks like you have the latest driver installed, I assume you no longer get hangs from the control panel. 2) You have the connection right, because in the box it now says "Asus 120 Hz 3D LCD" which is right. It has the 3D Vision Ready logo, not the 3D TV Play. 3) Your monitor looks to be running in full 1920x1080 resolution, earlier in the video. 4) The Setup Wizard is running, and the computer believes it has activated 3d, by showing the octagon and triangle overlap. There are only two things left to try. 1) Try another computer that has an NVidia card. Doesn't have to be too powerful, or full resolution, just to determine if the monitor is in fact broken, or it's a software problem. You did do a "Clean" install right? 2) Reset the monitor as djb suggests, using the OSD menus. It's much more likely to be a software install problem, than actual broken hardware, but this Asus appears to have a sketchy track record. One more thing- Here are threads with people who have your same problem, and the thing that worked for them was to unplug the monitor for at least 20 seconds, then plug it back in. YMMV. #3 You should get a 2D signal out of both dvi outputs. If you can, try a different monitor. If a different monitor with dvi does not work out of both/either dvi outputs, I would say something is wrong with the card.

Try one last thing- Unplug the mains/ac power to the monitor for at least 20 seconds.

During the setup wizard, the 3D knows to turn on once the test images appear. It's automatic and you can't really tell just by looking at the image of the blue triangle/green hexagon, that it's enable. You could maybe run fraps during the wizard and note the framerate when it tells you to power on the glasses, when the images come up, it should drop to half or so of what you were getting. Maybe try using 100 Hz as the desktop rez and then run the wizard. Maybe try just faking you way through the images. then before the wizard ends, choose to install the pictures. Hit finish and it automatically goes to the pictures, see if they show in 3D. If not, try hitting control+t. those are the command keys for turning 3D on and off, once it is set up

@bo3b i love you man ! this works One more thing- Here are threads with people who have your same problem, and the thing that worked for them was to unplug the monitor for at least 20 seconds, then plug it back in. Thanks a lot everyone for replying...if theres any points system on this forum let me know ill gladly give you high ratings and bo3b if your not paid by nvidia you deserve a job with them :)

yes thanks @d-man11 well i tried unplugging the monitor ( dvi cable) like you said i didnt think you meant the power plug..thats such a weird fix dont you agree ? ive just asked asus for support to explain this farce, thanks a lot for the help you say One thing, in the control panel,be sure to click "set keyboard shortcuts" and then check the box "enable advanced in-game settings" i asume the shortcuts are mostly for gamers ? im more into watching 3d films but may start doing some 3d gaming in the future...what games do you recommend in 3d ? thanks mate :)

Fantastic. There's lots of recommended games in the forum that these guys can point you to, but if you want to get blown away with some great graphics and fun game, Trine 2. Best played with a 360 controller, for me anyway. Have fun :)

Awesome! So glad you got it working. D-Man11 had it absolutely right, that crazy unplug from AC to fix the emitter. Good call. I have no experience with these monitors, and am just going by google. Earlier in this thread there were too many confusing setup questions (like the control panel hangs), so his advice was missed. I wasn't helping earlier with bad screen shots, and bad advice, so I wanted to step it up a bit, and get more accurate. (But I did clean up those earlier posts, to avoid leaving inaccurate info there.) As part of that, the original setup via HDMI was showing 3D TV Play. If I read this correctly, that should work as well, using HDMI. It's not the usual setup for this monitor, but it should run, and show stereoscopic. You can't run 1920x1080@60Hz though, which is why DVI is still superior for gaming.
you say One thing, in the control panel,be sure to click "set keyboard shortcuts" and then check the box "enable advanced in-game settings" i asume the shortcuts are mostly for gamers ? im more into watching 3d films but may start doing some 3d gaming in the future..
Yes, you only need these settings for gaming, not for watching movies.
..what games do you recommend in 3d ? thanks mate :)
Your best bet, if you have no particular game preference, is to stick to games that are rated highly in stereoscopic. There are a lot of glitches and bugs in games that are not fully rated. The lower ratings like Fair, Excellent, are all a mess, and don't seem to match reality. Lastly, another good resource for how good things will be in a game is: http://www.mtbs3d.com/gg3d/
so 1 last thing then...why would that work ? can anyone explain what would happen inside the monitor when you unplug the power plug from the electricity while the monitors on...why would that fix the emitter ? i just want to understand this so i can write up this fix on my youtube videos to save everyone else a massive time waste . surely this is an error/mistake by asus/nvidia with this expensive 3d monitor wouldnt you agree ? is it a manufacturing error or flaw ?
This is definitely a design flaw with the Asus monitor. Without more details of how it works internally, I don't think we can say exactly why this works. I can say that it has something to do with capacitors, which is why pulling the plug allows some circuitry to drain completely. Maybe that causes it to cleanly reboot, instead of a warm start that would otherwise save all your settings- including a potentially bad one that locks out the emitter. Just guesses though. It definitely is a flawed design. And it was supposed to be as easy as plug it in, and it works, it just wasn't that way in your case. Your expectation that it should be easy, was right. Enjoy.

Nice help there guys, I've appreciated it too in the past. The power to monitor thing I totally missed, and think the reason is that I have my 3 monitors plugged in to a power strip that when the PC (Main) power is turned off, my monitor power is cut off. Thanks for your guys support in here.
