STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl This is just sad!

What a start to a game! I set the game settings just as NVIDIA recommends and, lo and behold, the targetting crosshair is already rendering at depth! Awesome!!

Then I get outside and the sky is rendering way too close. Trees that are 50 ft away are more distant than the sky behind the tree. It looks terrible. I'm either going to have to play in 2D or keep staring at the ground whenever I go outside. What a let down.

It's a game issue i think. I recall having the same phenomena playing using the iz3d-drivers.

Obviously not a real solution, but if you turn the depth of field view down, its not headache inducing and playable.

Well, if I take the depth down, I might as well just turn 3D off then turn on all the fancy lighting effects, right?

Not!!

When you turn on DirectX 9 lighting effects, the grass goes nuts. Random plants will be drawn jet black. Any movement of the camera will fix the plants but other random plants go bad. The net result being flashing grass as you move and turn. Ghaaa again!

So maybe I will turn down that depth. Good idea, Bralth! /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

It works pretty well with static lighting. Obviously the game doesn't look as good but the Stalker games ooze atmosphere. If I remember right, the sky in the two sequels rendered correctly.

Not quite. CoP came with the bundle (just $10 on Impulse!) and I just tried it. It looks like there's a static sky which looks fine but there's some sort of layer beneath it to add movement to the clouds or some such and that looks like it is rendered right above your head. You can see it in this shot, though it's more noticable when it is moving.

Definitely not as bad as the original, though, where the whole sky is wrong.
