ROG SWIFT PG348Q: 3440 x 1440, 100Hz, curved IPS
  1 / 2
https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-SWIFT-PG348Q/specifications/ Wouldn't this be a dream of a monitor if we could use 3d vision with this one? We have so many brilliant minds in this forum. Is there really no way to have 3d vision with a monitor like this? I guess 100Hz would just be enough? I wonder if the Response Time of 5ms (Gray to Gray) is fast enough for 3d vision? Someone any ideas to make it work?

5 ms gray to gray should be enough! Samsung 2233rz (3D Vision 1 Monitor) had a 5 ms response time. 100 Hz is more than OK for 50 Hz per eye on the glasses... So it should work no problem! As for making the monitor work with 3D Vision... I imagine an EDID hack should work, but I am in no position to make one:) Others should be able to help you here:)

seriously? so this monitor might actually be possible to use as a 3d vision monitor? Where can I learn about EDID? Maybe it would even be possible to use 2 of these monitors Thanks a lot

To my knowledge, no one has been able to get a non-certified non-3D 21:9 monitor working with 3D Vision. A poster has the 21:9 Acer Predator and has tried it unsuccessfully, but he also doesn't know what he is doing. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/874114/3d-vision/acer-predator-z35-possible-3d-capable-/4/

neither do I, so might be a very bad idea. Is there a list of monitors where a EDID override was successfull? Any other resolutions than FullHD?

To be frank. If you know what you are doing! You can basically re-flash the EDID in the Monitor/TV (from Linux). But DON'T ATTEMPT IT!!! Unless you are 1000% sure you know what you are doing! Writing the EDID WRONG info inside the FLASH of the TV/MONITOR CAN BRICK the LCD panel!!! I think, ultimately this is the only WAY to make a non-3D Vision Certified Monitor ACT as ONE!!! The driver LOOKS for certain manufacturer Code & Models. I am not sure how PROPER the SOFTWARE EDID from Windows works... But flashing that firmaware WILL make the monitor ALWAYS behave like is a different MONITOR. This IS ALL I am going to say about it;) Not going to drop links here as I don't want people to BRICK their expensive hardware and blame me or anyone else! If somebody want to learn how to do it...One advice! MAKE LOTS AND LOTS of Research! Buy a couple of CRAPPY OLD CHEAP Monitors and experiment on them AFTER you understand how it works and HOW TO DO IT... ONLY AFTER attempt it on your actual 3D Expensive Monitor! This is the best advice I can give to anyone wanting to pursue this! ;)

The thing is, 3D Vision only allows 16:9 resolutions, chances are Nvidia will disable 3D if they see a 21:9 resolution or the will put their red warning across the screen saying that you are using the incorrect resolution. The warning can be hacked, if it gets disabled, it would require a hack that no-one has yet accomplished.

Here's the Dr HDMI https://www.hdfury.com/shop/otherhdfuryhardware/dr-hdmi/ There's probably someone that makes the same thing for Display Port. But flashing the eeprom (not sure if that's exactly correct) requires special programming units with the software for doing it. I've only read of 1 person successfully doing it in the wild, if I recall correctly, it was NickDVB.

Here's a link to his post, it's actually Nick 3DvB, but I was close. http://3dvision-blog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2585 Anyhow, that's extreme and un-needed. Microsoft allows EDID overrides in their software. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/jj133967(v=vs.85).aspx

Thanks for all the information D-Man11. I will read through the stuff. Where can I learn more about EDID? I have no clue how that stuff works, but I am C++ programmer, so I hopefully might be able to understand some of it... Lets see if there is a similar thing like the Dr HDMI for display port which would be needed for this monitor I guess

Sorry, that was a bit misleading. I was mentioning Dr HDMI to show that there are alternatives, before ever going to the extreme of reprogramming the eeprom in the display. The thing is, with Windows, you just do an override that applies additional values in the Operating System registry that are used instead of the current values for the display. The only time something like the Dr HDMI is needed is if you have devices in the chain that are not letting the EDID be seen. Like if you have a splitter or signal booster that isn't allowing the display data to pass. Download Monitor Asset Manager from EnTech Taiwann (it's free). Then use it to look at your registry entries. You'll see real-time and registry active listed. The registry active listing is what will be changed with an override. http://www.feishare.com/attachments/126_edid_over.pdf

Ok. Is it possible to damage a monitor by doing the EDID change with additional registry values as you suggest? Or will the monitor only show a strange image if I am doing something wrong?

I suppose there's always the possibility, but it is extremely unlikely. New Displays have a lot of protection built in, you'd simply get a message from the display saying "out of range" if it didn't like the video stream that it's receiving. That or you'd get a black screen because it's not able to display the resolution. I've done it many times without damaging anything. Plus an EDID override is just as easily removed. This is probably something that you shouldn't try because it seems you are not grasping the idea and/or have not read the links provided. Excluding the post by Nick 3D VB, because it's not relevant.

Hi, is there still no one - with more experience than me - brave enough to try a monitor like this? I want to buy a new monitor for years now, but the ones I would like don't have 3d vision, so I am still waiting...
