I have ordered it on Amazon and it should be here soon. I will post my experience with this projector after trying it out.

Chiming in a bit late here... but I've had the BenQ W710ST for almost a year and so far it has been a great projector. The short-throw feature was a must-have for me since my room is only about 9 feet wide... and it really is crazy how these projectors can cast such a huge image from so close (I'm doing 100 inches). The picture quality is outstanding, and downright impressive given the distance... but I will say to not set your expectations too high if you are sitting close like me. So many people say things like "you can barely tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a large projector screen," and "720p gaming on a projector is just as good of an experience as 1080p." I agree with those statements for the most part... but if you have been using a 1080p+ monitor, the 720p projector is just not going to be as sharp. As long as you know that going in, you are in for a treat. I actually bought the projector more to use for 2d TV / movies (needed a new TV), and have gamed a little bit on it just for fun. I have a VG278H monitor as well, and for the most part I prefer the sharp visuals on that for gaming over the large, but slightly more blurry projector screen (I've always been more of a keyboard-and-mouse at a desk guy anyways for games). That said, 3d movies on the projector are just awesome... and I prefer the setup 100% to the 46" 1080p TV I had before, 2d and 3d. As for cons... the W710ST does have a sort of annoying purple light that comes out the side vents that is always noticeable during dark scenes. How noticeable it is will depend on your setup (mine is on the ceiling), but you can't really cover it up since it needs the ventilation. It's not a big deal, but I do find myself being distracted by it every now and then. I do also have some flickering problems every now and then... but I'm guessing that is due to the 50ft cable/HDMI amplifier I am using (I got a pretty cheap one). Still, hasn't been prominent enough to get me to deal with it. All-in-all I'd still give it an A rating, with the purple light being the only downside. It's my first projector experience so I don't have much to compare with... but I definitely am happy with my purchase.

I've never had to use a pipe or anything for a long vertical drop, but my experience with mounts (I've used several at work) is that most of the universal ones are fine, even the cheap ones. Others might have better advice, but I'd just get a generic universal mount.

My Acer H5360 is not at all blurry when it's running at native 1280x720p@60Hz. If you run your desktop at 1920x1080, then of course it will be downsampled to native resolution and not look that good. Anything outside of native resolution is less than optimal. For this Acer at 1280x720@120Hz, when in 3D mode, I would also describe it as slightly blurry. It's pushing the projector hard at 120Hz, and it's just not crisp like the native 60Hz. For gaming, this is never a problem, but for doing text editing or web reading, I also set it back to 60Hz.

I have no experience with big screen gaming and my 27" is currently the biggest PC screen I've used. It might be good but I would find it weird playing Counter-Strike on a massive display at least initially. I saw windows running on a 45" ish TV and you could not really read the text well from the couch. 720p and a massive screen solves that problem and I have to assume the image is sharp. I'm mostly curious if there are certain games that don't work well on the big screen. For instance twitch shooters etc.

I just got Benq 710ST and it looks good so far. I have got one annoying issue with this projector. I have connected this projector to my PC via HDMI cable. Whenever I turn on 3D mode (Nvidia 3D Vision) on this projector and then start nvidia 3d vision test , it gets blank for a while (i see blue screen searching for signal) and when I see picture back, it turns off the 3D mode. I have to turn 3D mode back on. When you quit 3d vision test then again it gets blank and turns 3D mode off. So basically you have to turn 3D mode on every time you watch 3D. Is there any solution to this problem? Are we supposed to use the vga cable for PC?

With 3D Vision you can use HDMI or VGA. With 3DTV Play only HDMI. You are using a 3D Vision emitter and glasses, right? Also try hitting "Apply" at the bottom of the setup tab.

If you are talking about the 3D mode on your projector, don't worry about it. Keep it off. It only needs to be on if you are using DLP Link glasses. http://www.dlp.com/projector/dlp-innovations/dlp-link.aspx When it's on, it outputs the white flash sync signal. This is not needed for your 3D vision glasses which are synced to the USB controlled ir emitter.

Look at the following menu picture If we set it to off then there is no 3D effect using 3d vision. We have to set it to "Nvidia 3d vision" to get it to work. But the problem is that it goes back to off whenever you start any 3D vision application (game/nvidia player/game). I have to again set it to "Nvidia 3d vision". When I quite the application then it again turns off. The remote also does not respond when 3D vision emitter is on so its really annoying to go to the projector after starting the 3D application.

That blows, maybe open a support ticket with BenQ and Nvidia. The Samsung monitors had the same problem until it was fixed. I saw this in a Newegg review "Cons: - Have to change "3D Sync" menu option to "nVidia 3D Vision" EVERY TIME you want to use the glasses. It forgets this setting when you change display modes (e.g. go back to the desktop and/or switch games). Only takes a few seconds and far from a deal-breaker, but you'd think they could have made the projector remember the setting." For me, this would be a deal breaker, there are other projectors that do not have this needless hassle.

I'll be curious what BenQ have to say. It's fairly dumb to reset any setting this way. You can possibly avoid the losing sync to projector problem by setting Stereoscopic mode to 'always' in NVidia control panel. That leaves it in 3D mode, 120Hz, even at the desktop. This might make it fuzzier like my H5360, but might not here. That way there is no switch when you start games, and no loss of sync, and no need to hit the menu. Another thing to try is the Save Settings in Picture menu. Not sure it's related to 3D settings, but Save Settings sounds like what you want. You could also try the User1/2 settings mode, on the off chance that it will save 3D state for that user mode feature. Might be related to the Save Settings, not clear from manual. Worth a try. In the NVidia setup wizard, they ask what your gaming setup is for the emitter. The choice there determines how strong the infra-red signal is that the emitter puts out. If you choose the LAN gaming settings, it's the weakest signal to avoid interfering with neighboring computers. Or... your projector infra red remote. The reason you can't use the remote is because the 3D signal is swamping the remote. You can point the pyramid at your screen/wall instead, which usually makes it possible to use the remote. If that's not enough, try one of the lower strength settings so you can still use your remote. I have this same problem with H5360 when 3D is on. Lastly, if it's not solvable, I'd encourage you to play with the projector for a week or so before sending it back anyway, as you weren't sure you wanted a projector at all to begin with. Minus the hassles, you will be able to determine if you like the idea at all.
