EVGA 7900GTX
:magic: Got a 7900GTX today.

I haven't been able to benchmark it yet.

I can't believe how HUGE this card is!

It's almost touching HD!

Any stereo experiences out there?

Regards,
Chopper

Great to see you upgraded chopper, let us know how it compares with your old 7600GT for stereo.

It has been a bittersweet upgrade.

I'm SUCH an idiot - I'll explain why.

First, I got the EVGA 7900GTX. An added bonus was that it is HDCP enabled, and appears to be the best model offered second only to the superclocked version.

I got some of my games to run fine, but I was having a problem with Battlefield 2 (the only game that REALLY matters to me). When I'd enter stereo, the game would turn into a slide show.

As I upgraded my card from a 7600GT to a 7900GTX, I figured I just needed to update the drivers. So, I uninstalled the 93.81s, ran driver cleaner, reinstalled - SAME PROBLEM.

It was about 8:00PM on a Saturday night. I had a 350 WATT power supply at the time with two 400 watts available as well. In my infinite wisdom, I decided to go out before the stores closed to get a more powerful PSU. EVGA claims the card needs a 450 watt minimum.

So, I got a Cooler Master Extreme Power 600 Watt PSU. It was the last one and only cost $50 Canadian. It was a final sale item, but stores are closed until Tuesday, and I didn't like the idea of my computer running on a 350 watt PSU.

Same problem!

I hate spending money I don't have to (which is why I feel like an idiot), but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Anyways, back to my story.

I had to uninstall and reinstall BF2 to make it work. The speed is fine, but the moment you turn on the laser sight, it's a slideshow again.

I ran the 3D Mark benchmarks and I'm not getting unusual freezes or low performance ratings.

Do I need to do anything special to make this work?

Here are my specs:

Asus A8N SLI SE (Socket 939)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
2GB RAM
EVGA 7900GTX 512MB
IZ3D Monitor
XFI Xtrememusic
320GB HD
93.81 Forceware, Stereo Beta
XP Home SP2

Happy New Year Everyone!

Sorry things aren't going so good, since you have changed cards, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to update or reinstall your nforce drivers as well. Don't feel too bad about the PSU, that 350watt would have been overworked and could possibly have taken some other hardware out when it finally did die.
