GT540M & 3D Vision GT540M & Samsung 3D Vision Display
I have bought a Samsung 3D Vision display more than a year ago, but then discover my own computer cannot use with this display.

I then bought a Asus 53JW 3D notebook and thought it would works with a double 3D displays for my 3D video editing works, but apparently, it cannot as well. Only the notebook 3D dispaly can work. So this make my Samsung 3D Display becomes a white elephant.

Recently, I came across a Acer mid-range standard 2D notebook that comes with Nvidia GT540M graphics. I wonder this would work with the external Samsung 3D display? The Nvidia site stated theat the GT540M is 3D vision ready, but some blog say that it also depends on the notebook manufacturer to enable this feature. Can't find any news on the web on this that work. Furthermore, GT540M has 2 version, the 1GB and 2GB VRAM version. Furthermore, the new notebooks all comes with HDMI output instead of the DVI input of the Samsung 3D Display. I do get an HDMI-DVI adaptor, but not sure it would work this time. I wonder does this matter when comes to 3D Vision?

Will appreciate if anyone out here can advise?

Thanks and have a good weekend.

3D Vision display only work over DL DVI. You cannot use HDMI to DVI cables.

Thanks for your response. Is it ok if I used the VGA analog connector to the DVI port on the display with a VGA-DVi cable? I noticed there are 4 pins on the male side of the cable connectors that goes into the 3D Monitor (which have no holes on its female connector). Someone suggest it may works if I break the 4 pins at the side of the horizontal/cross. Will this work?

Any other solutions. Now, all the notebooks and maybe future graphics cards will likely use only HDMI. Do you think my Samsung Display will be obsoleted? Sigh... It has been lying like a white elephant for 1.5 years since I last bought it due to hardware compatibility limitations.

Will appreicate if you know someone who has a solution.

Have a good weekend.

Hi

No you need to use a true DL DVI connection.

You do have a few options with notebooks:
- DP to DL DVI adapter. we will be selling one on our website
- Newer 3D Vision monitors with HDMI 1.4 inputs. You can then use those monitors in 3D, but will be limited to 720p60 gaming and 1080p24 Blu-ray 3D playback.

Thanks for the update. What does DP to DL DVI Adapter means? I have bought a HDMI-DVI adapter, but it wouldn't work, except for normal 2D. There are only 2 displays out adapters on the notebook. Standard Normal VGA and HDMI.

I use the Sony Vegas Pro 10 for 3D stereo video editing. Can I make the external display a secondary 3D Vision stereo output whilst the notebook as a standard editing workstation?

Nevertheless, look forward to the new DP to DL-DVI adapter. Please send me an email at cspeh@sapfx.com when that is available on the Nvidia website.

An HDMI to DVI adapter only passes single link DVI. This is less bandwidth than what a 3D Vision monitor operates at, which is dual link DVI.

DP to DVI adapter maintain the correct bandwidth to output 3D.

Is the DP/HDMI to DVI adaptor available now? I noticed only some laptop like those from HP have the Display Port.
Can the Mac with the Display Port and 3D Vision ready graphics card works as well?

I read a lot of problems with GT540M on most laptop particularly the Acer. Recently, I came across the new Dell XPS 15R that claims to be 3D Vision ready with its HDMI 1.4a.. if I get a 3DTV will it works?

This thread is a bit old, can you just tell me exactly what you want to do?

Hi,
i want to bought something for my DLP benq mp670 3d ready projector, to see 3d movies. I choose between Asrock vision 3d with NVIDIA GT425M and alienware m11x with NVIDIA GT540M (I preffer alienware because i can use it in multiple modes). What do you recomend me? I'm open to another solutions. (I prefer a laptop with small dimension and strong graphic card.)
thank you very much
best regards

Movie playback is a different thing, Vision/3DTV play is for
gaming. What you need is a decent mediaplayer (e.g Totalmedia theater
or PowerDVD) that supports the 3D format you want to play.

BTW: does 3D vision work on Optimus notebooks? I saw a large topic
on this, full of complaining people, saying that they cannot play
in 3D on their optimus notebooks.
