Like TsaebehT says, i think an EDID is needed I use this setup: *** VideoCard HDMI out (Nvidia's HD Audio installed) --> 3DTV HDMI in - 3DTV Digital Out --> Receiver Digital Input In the Audio control panel says "Max channel supported: 2" and i can't change that settings. So again this is Nvidia fault!! :))) jaja Others setup i test and i have a real 5.1 sound (tested with bluray and mkv files): *** Hard Drive + 5.1 dolby or DTS mkv files - 3DTV Digital Out --> Receiver Digital Input *** Bluray HDMI out --> 3DTV HDMI in - 3DTV Digital Out --> Receiver Digital Input Grrrr!!!

Use 2 different HDMI cables, one going to the receiver and one to the TV. The TV can't convert PCM to DDL so this is why you are stuck with 2 channels. It can just passtrough. EDID mod won't help in this case. LE: there is another option HDMI->Receiver->3DTV - but this will most probably mess with your 3D and generate inputalg

If your optical cable is connected to a Creative card, sometimes you can get support as an optional purchase. Check this list to see what's supported. http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=68520 Most of the surround is accomplished via Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect intercepting the PC Audio and converting/emulating it on sound cards that support/license the technology. There were some games that didn't work well with my RealTek soundcard that's integrated in my mobo, so I bought a Creative SoundBlaster Omni, it connects via USB. Now I swap back and forth between the two as needed.

The TV's the problem... now that you mention it I had mine hooked up exactly like that at one point, It sees the capabilities of the TV being only Stereo... but even with a merged EDID I'm not sure if the TV can pass the 5.1 audio on to the RCVR or not, the limitation might be in the spdif output/TV itself. I have mine running through a splitter/switch, channel A outputs to the TV & RCVR... channel B outputs to my 3D adapter(3DA-1) > TV & RCVR, mostly for the consoles and SBS support, like Doom 3 BFG Edition.

This is getting more complicated than it needs to be. DHR you need to make sure you have ticked the DTS and Dolby options on your HDMI audio interface settings. If it works for films but not for games then it'll be something really simple. most game engines (read all game engines) calculate all they need to on the CPU. No need for DTS connect and Dolby digital live anymore. Not since vista days. Battlefield 1 looks amazing. I hope it has atmos too.

DHR. It's probably a preset on your amp that's the problem. Turn pro logic off for starters.l and try and enable a direct mode, if it has one. I can't really help you as I use a USB audio interface and go out of analogue so I don't have much experience with audio over HDMI. What gfx card have you got btw?

Thanks for all the help guys.....now i start to remember why i quit years ago... :( The last thing i found is searching for the Hardware ID of the Nvidia HDMI Audio, that HW is supported in the 1.3.34.3: http://dev.driveridentifier.com/scan/nvidia-high-definition-audio/download/95166281/1A6596D88D034CF5A78A4A091F684882/HDAUDIO%5CFUNC_01%26VEN_10DE%26DEV_0071 http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3646/~/nvidia-hd-audio-driver-supports-a-limited-number-of-audio-formats. Now i'm using the Nvidia Audio Driver 1.3.34.4 that is packed in the last Nvidia Driver....i will try to install the Previous Audio driver...maybe the "5.1 Surround" shows up! I don't have DTS Connect....in my previous rig i have it, but don't sound the same than real 5.1 sound. **EDIT: The 358.50 WHQL driver was the last one with the Audio 1.3.34.3.

WTF is going on in this thread lol. That's what the problem is. DTS and Dolby digital are compressed lossy formats so can travel over the limited bandwidth of SPDIF (digital out) PCM can't as there isn't enough bandwidth. You need to lose the Spdif and go HDMI. That way you can also listen to uncompressed lossless films that have DTS-MA and Dolby True HD. (if your receiver supports it) Go PC HDMI straight to the amp and then HDMI from the amp to the TV. Read the manuals on the 'Audio return channel' (ARC) HDMI ports as well. It's worth the effort!
