Resurrecting this thread... again... came back to playing Rome 2 after a several month hiatus. CM mode is adequate but somehow my settings accidentally kicked in REAL 3D last night and man is it a hugely wonderful difference! Seems like shadows and reflections are the only things I noticed that were broken.
Creative Assembly is now two more games removed from Rome 2 and there will not be any more patches or updates period. Sure would be nice if someone wanted to have a go at getting it working again...
I updated the fix best as I could April 2016. See instructions on HelixMod page. It's still working for me.
Many thanks! I am at work right now but will try to check it out this weekend.

Muizer, thank you so much for fixing this!!! I got to play it in REAL 3D tonight for the first time and it's glorious! Many thanks again.
I am wondering something... perhaps you know? Is there any way to get your real 3D fix working in conjunction with the G.E.M.FX (Graphics Enhancement Mod)? http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?672483-A-R2-TW-GEMFX-Version-1-0-9
I don't know if you've heard of it, but it is a fantastic injector that makes Rome 2 much much better looking. Here's a link to what it's capable of making the game look like: http://imgur.com/gallery/TydOF/new
What I have discovered however, is that it uses its own d3d9.dll, which, obviously must be overwritten to get the 3D Vision fix to work.
It would be so amazing to get them both working together, but ultimately I'd rather have the 3D fix than prettier graphics.
***It is a good thing to consider however, because the GEMFX injector can be used with many other games, not just Total War games, and it would be nice to see it working alongside 3D Vision. - Here is a link to some user pictures and videos, including some AMAZING screenshots from Assassin's Creed Unity.. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?672493-User-Pictures-amp-Videos

No problem, I think I might start a separate thread since it can apply to other games besides Total War. I feel like it would be a great injector for games like Mass Effect, the Arkham series, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher, etc..

Got it working Muizer, thanks to D-Man11. So now I have RTW2 working in proper 3D WITH the graphics injector. It looks stunning! Thank you again for your help!

Nice! May try that out one day. Though I'd rather play Attila, which is said to be the best in the series since M2TW. Unfortunately, I do not have the "superpowers" to make a fix from scratch and only just about know enough to maintain a fix once it's there.

Which G.E.M.FX setting do you like most?
The stuff here looks amazing:
http://imgur.com/gallery/TydOF/new
But quite different to the ones on the mod page. Do you know how to achieve something similar?
^^^ Yes that's the one. AD Finitum.
And as D-Man11 pointed out, you can download it. It's the one I'm using currently. A lot of these GEM settings can be a little dark, so you may have to tweak the in-game brightness and gamma settings. There's a few features of GEM that don't work in DX9 (you obviously have to run the game in DX9 for the 3D fix). It seems like GEM will still start correctly, it just won't include those particular effects. I personally disabled the dirt lens effect as it was more of a distraction in 3D.
@ Muizer: Attila is based on the same engine as Rome 2, which you probably already know. It seemed to me like Attila was Creative Assembly's attempt to right the wrongs with Rome 2, which by most TW fans was a disaster. But what struck me as odd was how quickly Attila was released after Rome 2... It was like CA said "Screw it... we messed up, let's just move on and pretend Rome 2 never happened.."
Anyways,.. here's where I'm going with this.. Vanilla Rome 2 is pretty lame. But with the right mods it can actually be a fantastic game. The absolute must-have mod for Rome 2 is Divide Et Impera. It rights the wrongs of the vanilla version in a lot of ways.
So what I'm saying is, with mods, Rome 2 is probably just as good as Attila, and it boils down to which time period you prefer to play in.
