This is about 3D quality and ratings. How can you defend nVidia's ratings? They are bonkers. AAA games like Crysis 2 and DE:HR seem to have been VERY positively rated. You surely should recognise how poor the 3D is on both of these games. Have you 'unlocked' the 3D to get comparable depths to what many gamers enjoy? I have never managed to unlock the 3D to depth I enjoy without the 3D being frankly dreadful. (And yes I include myself in the 3D noob bracket that enjoys 100% depth, with just enough convergence to get popout.) Crysis2 is unplayable at depths beyond 75% because the halos around every object. DE:HR is also seriously effected, with many issues arising at high depths which are just not noticable at vanilla depths. I am sure nVidia increased the Crysis 2 rating because the devs added DX11 quality graphics! Didn't touch 3D incidently. So, will nVidia rate games purely on the quality of the 2D engine then?
I read your message a couple times, and I'm unsure if you are talking about Nvidia's ratings, GG3D's ratings of Nvidia titles, or both.
Are you talking about these GG3D ratings for Crysis 2 and Deus-Ex Human Revolution that look positive?
Two points here. Crysis 2 shouldn't have been submitted in the first place because it's a 2D+Depth game. It's even mentioned by name in the manual for this reason (under native 3D support). The way 2D+Depth works and its related quality expectations aren't compatible with how GG3D tests games.
Remember that the formula of GG3D is a score based on the maximum allowable eye candy settings and remaining anomalies if any. There is also a marker for visual flexibility (convergence), but this isn't treated as a penalty. GG3D isn't there to judge 3D artistic quality, it's there to measure QA and visual flexibility.
Using Deus-Ex as an example, GG3D scored it very well, but the subjective score is mediocre at best. I wonder - would it be more valuable if this subjective scoring was displayed as a series of stars in the table? Maybe an average score mechanism amongst the submissions?
The example you provided demonstrates GG3D at its best, with links and fixes but that takes time to produce to that good standard. I work, have a family and need to sleep. I only have a small window to game. I always feel like I am doing my bit for 3D when I contribute to GG3D because I know I am making a difference. I wish I could provide quality entries to it but I simply do not have time.
A quick review on a thread like this, where everyone already know what I mean by, "Brilliant! It even has a 3D mouse. HUD is 2D but so what" See these 3 choice screenies" barely takes any time at all!
It doesn't take much time to submit to GG3D at all. A few moments a game - especially since you are only worried about one 3D solution at a time (unlike me who has to submit for three or more options!). The system even remembers the hardware and software you are using. The most time consuming aspect is if you choose to share screenshots (because you will probably organize your pictures ahead of time). You don't have to do that, but it's hard to debate a statement or claim when screenshots are shared. You can edit submissions now too, so if you go through the process and discover an error or change that needs to be made, it's pretty easy to do.

I was talking about nVidia's bonkers rating system. I think GG3D is easily the best 3D rating system there is; it is the closest you can get to an objective 3D rating for a subjective 3D experience.

This is a great idea. I have certainly been frustrated when the game I think offers an awesome 3D experience (AS IN THE 3D IS AWESOME) gets a Gold-B (85%) and the highest rating of 5 I gave it in the personal rating system is nowhere to be seen on GG3D's game selection screen. If I had to lower the quality of the graphics of the game to point I noticed it - I would not have rated it 5.
DE:HR is an interesting one. IMO it highlights a flaw in GG3D. I can no longer play games in 2D because it makes me feel funny; I gave up on DE:HR because it also made me feel funny - that's how low it's depth is. I think low depth should be amongst the critical list. At what point must 3D depth become so low it becomes 2D?

I updated my second post saying either post here or at gg3d.If people want to post the review at GG3D thats fine, it will look nice and have more meaning. I cant/wont enforce it. If I make this too complicated people won't do it. This is more of is this game worth getting and save people some money type deal. If a game is bad in 3d and helix debugger wont work on it. I doubt anyone that works on fixes will get it for example if I hear max payne has a huge shadow problem and debugger works with it I will get it. I was on the fence with Legend of Grimrock and didnt know its issues. I saw people got the debugger to work but had trouble removing the only problem which is shadows. I knew I could do it and in turn make game enjoyable for myself so I did. I WILL post my detailed review on game of thrones review on GG3D. Probably posting an initial one here first though. I am not doing games earlier then march so wont for old games people need to check out gg3d regardless. I have many reasons why I am doing this, none of them is to take away from GG3D. I want people to learn to use helix debugger, maybe they cant fix games. Thats okay. They can still remove bad effects that ruin games. The same day I put up this thread I put up my how detailed how to guide here. If you can convince the early people to post reviews on GG3D instead of here and get a flow going it will be easier in long run.
Does anyone want to do an witcher 2:enhanced edition? If its the same I guess you can keep it simple.

Actually, this was a misunderstanding on my part. For some reason, I thought the goal was to reinvent a database mechanism or something like that, not just a simple forum thread. Now what you are saying makes more sense, and I'm guessing my posts looked a bit out of whack! /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' />
Andy, did you have Deus-Ex patched? The first release wasn't stereoscopic 3D at all (they were putting out two left images instead of a left/right image). The update is actual 3D, though it's still not great.

Yes mate. The 3D is real 3D (unlike Crysis 2) but the vanilla depth is VERY low meaning...
Stop! I have still got DE:HR installed. As you say screenies are far better to debate a statement. One moment...

I have loaded DE:HR and applied it's max depth and convergence settings (in game menu). I have then screenied it so you can see the seporation at the distant building - the skyscraper about 150 - 175m from you (at least)? I have then taken another game, Bulletstorm, tried to find a building the similar distance. I have then lowered the depth in Bulletstorm to what seems similar. Look at the two distant(ish) buildings in DE and Bulletstorm screenies.
Actually, looking at the screenies now, I think the relative distance to the building in Bulletstorm is about 75 - 100m from you - just around the corner in fact! Quite a bit closer than the skyscraper in DE:HR. So I needed to lower the depth further still!
Finally look at a Wargames:European Escalation which I think has great 3D. Check out that depth and, as you can see, happily lets you apply convergence to get the doll-house effect; if you like that kind of thing. (If anyone cares, I play with a little less DHE than here - just as it begins to toyificate.)
What do you think?
@Eqzitara
Mate, great discussion on this 'ere thread BUT you might want to wait a bit, create a new thread, 'reserve' the top 2 or 3 posts in case they're needed, and start again in ernest. :)

A quick review on a thread like this, where everyone already know what I mean by, "Brilliant! It even has a 3D mouse. HUD is 2D but so what" See these 3 choice screenies" barely takes any time at all!
The problem with a thread like this is that nobody is ever going to find the game they want. Who would want to search through 50 pages of thread to try and find a few quick reviews of the game they are interested in? They can try using the search here. Good luck with that.
It doesn't take much time to submit to GG3D at all. Nnooo, I wouldn't say that. To do a good review, you need to do some experimenting in the game to see how/if popout works, what affect depth and convergence have on the game, and what settings you can use. You've also got to know your anomalies and get a grip on which ones are being caused by the game and which ones are being caused by your system. If you not well versed on anomalies, you'll need to spend some time checking the instructions and possibly going back into the game to re-check what anomalies are there. It may take only a few moments after you've had some practice but, until then, it takes some time to make a good review. I don't think there's much of a way around that if you want a good, solid review of the game's compatibility.
I wonder if a combination would be possible? Have a tiny forum for each game reviewed on GG3D. Each forum would have a subforum for each major 3D solution (3D Vision, iZ3D, DDD, "Native"), each subforum would have discussion about the game on that solution - including a topic for "quicky" reviews. Or would that take up a lot of resources? (I've got no clue how much space/speed that would cost.)

Yes, you are correct that before going through the process of making a submission, you need to have an idea of what you want to say or what the facts are. That could be a bit time consuming.
I don't want to spoil all the surprises, but the next developments around GG3D will likely be community discussion and interaction around submissions. What form that takes...it's a work in progress! /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

This is a little strange. I didn't touch or edit the previous message yesterday (though I don't see obvious changes). Is anyone else seeing "edit" credits on their messages for things they didn't actually do? When a message is edited in a forum by a moderator (if that's what happened), it's usually shown that way. This looks like the messages were edited by the actual members. I changed my password to be safe. It's probably just a fluke or a software bug.

UNPLAYABLE - DO NOT BUY
My friend got an early copy so had to check it out. Wanted to show him 3d gaming anyways so had him bring his PC. Well anywho this game is UNPLAYABLE. This is regardless of depth/convergence setting. Not sure if nvidia can fix this with a profile but everything is either rendered in one eye or the other. Was kind of excited since x-blades worked well in 3D.

Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition
3D VISION READY
This game is the same beautiful game as before only played like 20 minutes of it so far. It has that annoying locked convergence feature but their are ways to get around that. See this thread for details if you wish to change it http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=200281&st=1120 . Though I feel like they "locked it" in a good place. Make sure you DISABLE DOF(depth of field). I will attach screenshots tommorrow when I get to play more.
For higher convergence use Sammaz's settings(I now use same). Really adds life to scenes/gameplay. It appeared too flat before adjusting.
C:\Users\home\Documents\Witcher 2\Config\User.ini
open it up.
Go to where it says viewport and underneath your resolution paste

Yup disabled all DOF, for me these settings were perfect on the 50in. Panasonic...I also only played about 30 mins of Arena and 20 mins of opening.

Chopper

I was talking about nVidia's bonkers rating system. I think GG3D is easily the best 3D rating system there is; it is the closest you can get to an objective 3D rating for a subjective 3D experience.
I wonder - would it be more valuable if this subjective scoring was displayed as a series of stars in the table? Maybe an average score mechanism amongst the submissions?

A quick review on a thread like this, where everyone already know what I mean by, "Brilliant! It even has a 3D mouse. HUD is 2D but so what" See these 3 choice screenies" barely takes any time at all!
The problem with a thread like this is that nobody is ever going to find the game they want. Who would want to search through 50 pages of thread to try and find a few quick reviews of the game they are interested in? They can try using the search here. Good luck with that.

It appeared too flat before adjusting.

open it up.
Go to where it says viewport and underneath your resolution paste

Yup disabled all DOF, for me these settings were perfect on the 50in. Panasonic...I also only played about 30 mins of Arena and 20 mins of opening.
