Steam, to censor or not to sensor, is this even a question?
Kindred Spirits on the Roof launched as an adult game on Steam as uncensored. The Developer and Publisher got it OK'd by Steam prior to placing it for sale. Previously, the norm was to sell a game and offer an uncensored patch available for download elsewhere. https://store.steampowered.com/app/402620/Kindred_Spirits_on_the_Roof/ Recently, in an abrupt about face, Steam started notifying developers that they had until the end of the month to remove pornographic content from their games. https://venturebeat.com/2018/05/18/valves-move-to-censor-visual-novels-undoes-its-steam-direct-promises/ Then more recently, Steam reverted back to a more lenient policy https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/06/06/steam-content-restrictions-removed/ https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/1666776116200553082 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Personally, I think there should be some kind of age gate on their site, after all it's not just adults that buy digital games from them. Take this inappropriate game https://store.steampowered.com/app/469820/Genital_Jousting/ Or this inappropriate statement About This Game Courtesy Warning: The sexual themes in this game are mostly for fun/humor and don't make for particularly great fapping material. https://store.steampowered.com/app/426000/HunieCam_Studio/

IMO there is absolutely zero difference between hosting a game with original sexual content/themes versus hosting mods which do the same (if not worse---Think GTA,Skyrim/FO,Saints,ect.). With that being said; if restrictions are being placed on one developer's project it should be placed on all. ie: Not just those considered "indy" which bring in very little profit for Valve. In the end... It (the purchase) is ultimately up to the consumer especially if/after Valve placed an age check (DOB) prior to viewing the title. That's my .02$

I own Genital Jousting, and I can confirm it's a hilariously fun couch game with a group of friends. In terms of censorship, I don't see how a penis is any more harmful than the extreme levels of violence in most modern games. So in that sense, I'm not pro censorship. However I do think Valve need to exercise more curation when it comes to Steam, there's so much shovelware on there it has become impossible to discover interesting indie titles in the store itself - you have to hear about them elsewhere.

Agree with Pirateguybrush - why is sex in games worse than violence? I'm personally not into those sexy anime games - don't know how people can take such cartoonish, over-exaggerated depictions seriously. I don't believe any ideas and/or fictional artistic creations should be censored in games, literature, film etc. It's not like real people are being subjected to anything. Obviously age restrictions should apply - but parents also need to be diligent and mindful in this time of digital excess. Where I draw the line is with any real people (or animals) that are unwilling, coerced, taken advantage of for other's entertainment. The Colosseum might have been fun to watch, but I get why it was wrong.

What they should filter is shittyness, not content :p. The average quality of a game on GOG must be a lot higher than on Steam.

Censorship of violent or pornographic material is my job as a dad. Not Steam's, not developers.

Well the flood gates have opened. At Anime Expo, numerous developers/publishers, have stated that they well be stepping up efforts to localize previous lewd titles. GOG is also selling these games now. Perhaps this will also lead to a flood of those lewd 2D Renpy VN games to show up on Steam.

I honestly find it dangerous and hate censorship in all it's forms even is I disagree with the content. It's also ridiculous that murder is totally fine as long as you don't show nipples or people expressing a natural human function. This world is so backwards sometimes. And I totally agree with Masterotaku where there should be quality control on steam not censorship....
Well the flood gates have opened.
Well the Floodgates didn't open like I thought they would, most stuff has been relatively clean. But I was quite surprised when looking through games to see a few games on a Curator's list. Sexy Miss and Paradise City VR have firmly cemented Steam's commitment into offering Adult Games
