Hello 3D community,
I've been out of the loop for a while, so forgive me is this has been asked around multiple times.
I was not looking to buy a new 3D TV but with the recent bad news that's been announced seems that they are all going away :(. I currently have a Samsung 55' 3D TV which i use with 3D TV Play but it is pretty subpar. I can't stand playing on 720p and 1080p has annoying input lag and only 24hz cap.
With that out of the way, I wanted to see what people here recommended as a Tv to get before they are phased out.
I wanted to Thank Conan481 for pointing out his 55" LG E6 OLED which is still available. If there is nothing better than this, I will probably go for it. I always heard Active 3d was better than passive, that's why I never got interested in LG before.
Thank you very much all.

There is nothing even remotely close to the LG OLED for 3D. As for Active being better then passive. NO WAY. lol. it's not even close....Passive used to only be half the vertical resolution of Active -so you would only get 540p per eye and no with 4k passive you are getting full 1080p per eye. Back in the day passive would give you a low res 3D experience but thats over now and with passive you get less ghosting, no flicker, better glasses, color, etc.
I'm sure someone will confirm that there is no better TV to get and if there was I'd own it :)
I'm actually selling my 55 E6 because I'm getting the 65" E6. Wanted to wait for 2017 models to get the 65" but because they don't support 3D anymore I'm buying the e6 again before they are gone for good.
I'm in Ontario, just north of the GTA if anyone is interested in a 55" E6 OLED

Awesome. Thank guys.
@ Conan. I live in Florida man. if i was closer I would probably check it out.
I saw these 2. Other than the price tag of $500 what is the difference and is it worth it?

Note that 55 in models have larger 3D FOV than 65 in models, when viewed at minimum 3D viewing distance for each model. I suggest getting 55 in model, rather than 65 in model, unless 3D is being regularly viewed by a group of people (not just a single person). 55 in versions are cheaper, also.
Best 3D viewing is provided by flat screen models, NOT curved screen versions.

How does that work? If I sit 5 feet away from a 65" vs 55" -the 65" will have the greater FOV.
What is the minimum distance? never heard of a minimum distance for 3D for OLED.

The lens/filter layer for all (not just OLED) passive screens creates (undocumented/undiscussed) minimum viewing distance for focusing 3D across entire viewing area. In my testing, I found that my 55 in displays have better 3D FOV than my 65 in display (that is, the minimum 3D viewing distance for the 55 in was proportionately closer than the 65 in).
For maximum immersion, I try to sit as close as possible to the screen, so minimum 3D viewing distance is important to me...

Conan481,
I wanted also to wait for 2017 models to get the new 65", but because manufacturers don't support 3D anymore i'm looking for TV with an able to work flawlessly with joker18's EDID override.
You had written in the other thread about some issues with spontaneous eyes swap with your LG OLED E6 and EDID override, and have not found the fix. Are those issues already solved?

I found a way to make it much less annoying. I'd get my first swap at almost exactly the half hour mark -then the swaps would happen every few minutes -almost unplayable.
I thought it might be something with my setup but I isolated it to the TV itself and it's such a weird bug and I'm not sure it happens but basically the TV just decides to reverse the image, could be some sort of auto 3D kicking in. I tried every possible 3D setting on the TV and nothing worked...
Here is my solution -when the eyes reverse, you simply press the 3D button on the TV remote, and then press it again and the image is back to normal (un-swapped). This all takes few a few seconds and no more swap for another half hour.
Before I'd have to exit the game and restart it or I'd get swapping every few mintues after the initial eye swap after half an hour.
By just toggling the 3D button on the remote -you don't have to exit the game, and only have to toggle the 3D every half hour. It's slightly annoying, but It's worth it to get the best possible 3D image. This could be a bit more of an issue for online as an eyeswap during a multi match could lead to your death. LOL.
BTW, I think one other owner had the same issue and also owned a 2016 OLED but I never heard back if he found a fix or just used my method?

On my pre-2016 TVs, when I use the 3D button on the remote to disable 3D, some type of ghosting correction (actually creating a problem) sometimes remains - and requires the power to be cycled on the TV to eliminate. Does the 2016 OLED ever have this ghosting problem?

No. Everything is 100% fine after toggling 3D on and off on the TV. I think I only had that issue that you describe with my "old" 55" LG passive LCD. The colours and ghosting would become completely messed up and required a reboot. None of my 3 OLED's I've owned had that issue when toggling 3D on the TV.
I just Sold my 55" and I'll be setting up my 65" E6 next friday. I'll keep this thread updated. Could be the eye swap issue was just isolated to my particular TV, or a batch of TV's, etc. There are too few people using a 2016 OLED and the 4K mod to draw any definite conclusions. Only heard one other owner complain about eye swap and haven't heard anything else. It will be interesting to see if my 65" has the same issue...
Either way, It's not that big of a deal, and it's not like we have much options anyway. I showed my family and friends Unravel (high convergence) and Abzu and they were giggling like kids. LOL. The 3D image on the OLED is so freaking amazing.....It's like a hologram. Infinite contrast, and the colors that the 2016 OLEDs create are such a step up from anything you've seen. LG made a huge leap in color performance, and a substatial gain in brightness over the 2015 OLEDs.
It's sad that they dropped it from the 2017 TV's. It's funny how all those who bad mouthed 3D -especially those on AVSforums- are all singing a different tune now after having experienced 3D on their OLEDs. There is even a petition with over 5000 signitures to bring 3D back to the 2017 OLEDs...

Depends if you want the curve and how important saving 500.00 is to you.
My previous OLED was curved and I didn't mind it at all. If your sitting within 5 feet, I found I could see more of the screen at one time then the flat model I have now.
The C6 and E6 will have the exact same picture quality. If I had the option in Canada of going with a C6, I would have probably done so, but they are not available in Canada.
Also the flat E6 will be better for 3D if you're not in the sweet spot (dead center). Off angle E6 will be better. If you're sitting dead center within 5 feet then I'd personally get the curved, 5 feet or more then there is really no benefit to the curve at all.
Also, the curve is VERY slight on the LG -not like the Samsung, and it's barely noticeable.

Have you tried checkerboard on that Samsung TV? I agree with Roller11, checkerboard 3D mode does look quite like full 1080p. The picture also looks completely solid, not like i imagined it would based on reading the description of checkerboard, especially Roller11's description, lol. I think it is far superior to SBS 720p.
