Fix for SP and Multi
Edited the current package.mft using the info posted by gespo89

Tested working, fixes all Multiplayer maps (Map Pack 6), no crashes
Punkbuster/PBBANS Safe (At time of posting)
Single player is also fixed, but untested.

Been using this for some 2 weeks now.

Noticed a new disclaimer on the Nvidia 3D games list.

**The patch 553292 for Battlefield Bad Company 2 is causing the crosshairs in the game to no longer render in 3D. We are working with the developer to fix this issue in a patch that will restore the experience to 3D Vision-Ready for that game.

This patch is great except for one issue - it removes the Medic class MG36 red dot in hardcore mode. Any chance someone might know how to fix this?

Well, unfortunately its not explicitly an Nvidia problem. 3D Vision worked perfectly until DICE patched the game a few months ago and broke all the various 3D assets like crosshairs. I'm sure the red dot fits into that category as well. As you can see the community work around was to modify the packages.mft file which basically re-links the various 3D assets. It seems a simple enough fix for DICE and Nvidia has stated they will be working with DICE to fix whatever they broke, but we most likely won't get the fix until DICE releases another patch.

I created a topic on these boards and two more on two official BFBC2 forums, all of them got a couple of pages of replies from other users feeling equally disgruntled, and also the fix from another user. What nVidia and DICE seem incapable of understanding is the amount of brand damage this sort of thing can do. Even if people don't post and just read the thread they will most likely tell 5 friends about it and they will tell 5 more.

I have quite a few friends that play PC games and we share stories like this all the time, it's not just the lost sales of this item, it's the general impression the company is giving out of how much they care about their customers, I know 3D is small potatoes at the moment, but I would think a forward thinking organization would want to protect it's brand, especially in a rapidly expanding market like 3D.

I almost didn't make this post, because frankly I'm starting to get apathetic about the whole subject, not a great way to generate repeat sales or increase brand awareness in my opinion.

Yep I can certainly understand how its frustrating, and you nailed it on the head that 3D Vision users are just so low on the priority list because we're so few in numbers. But it really does demonstrate how fragile 3D support is in games. I had a discussion a few days ago with someone who insisted Nvidia was going about it the wrong way and that devs should be doing all the work to ensure compatibility, but if that were the case, this kind of poor support is all we would see as devs are always going to take the path of least resistance and address the needs of the larger % of their user-base first.

In this case, Nvidia spent the time to QA the game and probably held the dev's hands to implement 3D Vision in the original shipping game, which worked perfectly until the patch that rolled out in June/July which subsequently broke many of th 3D assets like crosshairs. Given how long it took for them to get that patch out and how many excuses they gave with its delays, I'm not holding my breath on when they'll around to an official patch. While Nvidia certainly has more influence than any of us end-users and access to DICE's ear, they're certainly not going to release a patch just to address this problem so we'll most likely have to wait for the next big patch until DICE's releases a fix. Nvidia has already stated they are working with the developer to get a fix, now the ball is in DICE's court (has always been really).

In the meantime, have you tried out the modified user fix from r3450n? http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1110723

I haven't tried any of the user fixes, I don't feel confident changing 'things' like that, as I'm very inexperienced on the software side of things and I'm sure I'll break something [have had bad experiences in the past]. Frankly I don't really think it should be up to us anyway, we paid for the product in good faith as it was stated nVidia ready, a month later those words mean nothing.

For the mean time I suppose I'll just let the dust gather on my rather expensive 3D kit and obviously keep telling anyone that will listen how crap the whole situation is.

Thanks for trying to help though Chiz.. Appreciate it mate :).
