Official Thread: 3D Vision 2 and 3D LightBoost Feel free to ask me questions
  2 / 17
Is there a list of fully 3D vision 2 compliant displays? I have an Acer HN274H and I have heard it has lightboost, but I'd like an official yes or no to the question of 100% full compliance.

Andrew is there any advantages of upgarding to vision 2 glasses with the old monitors?

3D Vision 2 glasses will work the same on older 3D Vision monitors for 3D quality.

Andrew, are there any monitors already on the market which are fullly compatible with 3D vision 2 and lightboost including the reduced ghosting?

Hi

I certaintly appreciate the fact that customers spend lots of money on products.

However I would point out that most companies do not disclose product launches ahead of time. Take for example Apple. We wll knew a press event was coming and we knew a new iPhone would be announced, but Apple never issued a media alert saying they would be announcing a new iPhone.

In fact, we tried to lean forward a bit about new 3D Vision products with GeForce LAN 6.

Again, I appreciate every customer that has invested in 3D Vision which is why I visit these forums and try to help.
I stand by my comments, and your inabilty to address or dispute anything I wrote proves my point. By the way, everyone knows when Apple is releasing a new product. My god, a new iPhone just released, who would have guessed. Actually, most well run companies do release info on exciting new products, as they realize that it builds interest and demand. Nvidia screwed every buyer of the Acer 27" monitor. The fact remains, Nvidia chose not to release the info so people would buy now instead of waiting for the new product. Tell me Andrew, how does that build customer loyalty? What is does is build short term profits. Spin it any way you want, but that is the truth. By the way, before you so easily dismiss me, my two home pc's contain 2x580's, 2x460's, a Nvidia based mainboard, and my ill-fated foray into 3d vision with the Acer 27" monitor. I earned the right to gripe.

Hi Andrew,

I was wondering what the differences are between the Acer HN274H bmiid and the new ASUS VG278H monitors besides the glasses.

Thanks Andrew

EDIT: after reading my question over a few times, i guess what i mean is, what can the ASUS VG278H monitor do that the ACER HN274H bmiid cannot?

i now what you mean, i have 3 acers hn274h in 3d surround and my return windows was closed the day before i read about the new lightboost technology, and i just upgrade my sistem to a 3-way SLI 3gb gtx580 for playing in 3d surround thats a lot of money spend in nvidia tech and is already out of date. it makes me really sad just thinking about it.

Hi

Quite simply, the ASUS VG278H has 3D LightBoost which will produce brighter 3D images. Its quite dramatic and I have an ACER HH274H on my test bed to compare it too.

Andrew Apple leaks like a sieve, and you like everyone else in this industry knows those leaks are coming from Apple and used just to look mysterious. Apple announces products months before with the free advertizing of a fanboi freenzy --Nvidia looks underhanded to say the least (as does Acer for that matter.)

Y'all announced this litterally hours after I bought a $700 monitor and no one will even tell us if our $700 screens will support the new tech. I spent exactly as much on this darn monitor as I did on each of my GTX 590s. Please tell me Nvidia at least planned for this and our monitors will support the new tech. If it won't just tell us now they won't so those of us like me stil in the return window can get one that will.

Hi

Again, I apologize that you feel like we misled you. And its not fair to say Apple leaks - see their police investigations for stolen iPhones for example.

Older monitors are not upgradeable to 3D LightBoost, we have an FAQ on that. You can use new 3DV2 glasses with your old monitors though.

I was wondering what the time frame is for more LightBoost monitors? I was days away from pulling the trigger on 3D Vision, but now must wait for a good 23-24 inch monitor (wanting to also do surround with 3). Would the time frame for this be a month or two, or 6 months?

I wish there was a step up program, we'll look into that, but nothing concrete.

Thanks, anything along those lines for us early adopters would be great. Also the AnandTech article mentioned Nvidia had sold ~500K 3D Vision glasses, quite an accomplishment and far more than I would've thought, so congrats on that accomplishment!

I am mad too.. I've only had acer hn274h monitor for 5 months or so and new technology coming out.. I paid $680 for this monitor and certainly not happy about it. I will probably end up selling it for $500 or so on ebay when new 3d vision 2 monitor comes out. But then again, if improvement isn't all that great, I might end up keeping this monitor for longer. Shoot. I really wish, there is some kind of step up program for this. This sux.. really..

Oooo, who left this waffle on the floor? (nom nom nom....) /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

No matter when they had announced it, SOMEBODY will have just gotten home with a new monitor. This is a new technology front so new things are going to be popping out for a long time to come. You can either sit there with no 3D at all for the next decade until the technology gets perfected or you can pick up the latest hardware as your pocketbook allows. I would have loved to have gotten a 27" 3D monitor but only 22" monitors were around when I got mine. A year before me, the monitors that were out there had really bad crosstalk and often couldn't even display 1080p.

If you simply MUST be at the forefront all the time then you better have deep pockets because it's very likely that something even better than this first lightboost monitor will be available next year.

Hi Andrew

My next question would be, what will the 3D Vision 2 Glasses offer that the 3D Vision 1 glasses cannot provide when used on a older monitor with only 3DV1 support?

Will the viewing content be more enjoyable when using the 3DV2 glasses as a posed to the 3DV1 glasses on say a Acer HN274H? Or will the 3DV2 glasses only output 3DV1 visuals?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, what is the benefit in using 3DV2 glasses on a monitor (that has a built in transmitter) for 3DV1? (in particular, a Acer HN274H)

Thank you for your time.
