- What's the best set up for this Acer GD245HQ regarding type. It's so bad I had to check I had clear type on in windows.
- What's the best set up regarding colour/contrast/brightness for 2D. I've been through various monitor calibration tools, but the colour still looks faded/bleached out.
My guess is this is totally up to you, whichever suits your needs best. Try and see what you like. I must admit the anti-reflective screen spoils the sharpness a bit - anyone want to try to peel off the top layer?
- How do I get 60+ hertz for 2D, I've tried setting it in NVCP and in W7, but it always either swithes the monitors signal [so it says no input], or gives me a very blury image that I haven't tested but looks like it should be 3D.
Well, did you use the DVI-dual-link cable that came in the box with the monitor? It sounds like you didn't, and with a single link cable you will not get the 120Hz glory, with or without the nVidia glasses.
Why don't things ever just work !!!
You want me to answer that too?
I realize now I may have been spoilt by the old Syncmaster 245B, I guess I was expecting something within the range of that 3 year old monitor for 2D, + 3D/120 Hertz as an added bonus, unless you guys can help me I think I may have been gravely mistaken.
Picture quality like that AND 120Hz will be available in, say, 2015 perhaps? Right now, there are only four, I repeat four LCD monitor models on the market that can do 120Hz. You will know this means they've been rushed to the market, the performance is good enough to sell them to the enthousiasts, but nowhere near where we'd really like it. It'll improve in the years to come.
(snip) I was expecting so much from this, so the disapointment doubley painful.
My guess would be you expected it to be close to a holodeck experience. You will have been disappointed indeed. For those like me that expected to see some depth in otherwise flat pictures, it is a thrill. I got my kit today, have played a little with it, and knowing it wasn't going to be perfect, seeing my favorite games in 3D was a rush. Wow! Actually, it all worked right out of the box for me, that was a rush too, wow. /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />
I'll update my little review tonight, add a few pictures too.

I left the old monitor cable in, but it looks exactly the same to me.. I shall report back once I've swapped them out.

No, sorry I guess I'm showing my frustration a little too well.

Don't get me wrong.. I'm impressed with the 3D side of it, the thing is I spend quite alot of time doing things other than playing games with my PC, so I could use something decent on the 2D side of things.

I think it really is down to your preferences. I used Nvidias control panel to alter the monitors appearance and i now have lovely life like colours and everything is right for my taste. For the 3d i used the same controls to brighten the screen slightly to make up for the darkening effect of the glasses. I am very happy with the performance of the monitor and the 3d gaming experience is brilliant. Obviously there are odd anomalies in some games but that is to be expected. lets hope for many new 3d optimised games.

Heheh, no problem.
I'll update my own review tomorrow, bedtime now, but I'll say this: although I find the monitor to be quite adequate when gaming, either 2D or 3D, the 2D desktop experience isn't what I had hoped it to be either. Just so you know, it's not just you. Like I said, more on that tomorrow. Naptime now. /zzz.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
