Buying a 3d TV, what should i get?
  1 / 2
Hello!

I have decided to move from the acer projector to a 40" 3d tv, as the projector needs to be set up all the time and in Finland, the summer isnt really that dark :), its difficult to get the right level of darkness.

I was wondering which one to get. Finland doesnt really have the best variety and the prices are pretty horrible too.
I was considering a Samsung 40" plasma for about 750€.

any input?

two other ways to solve that, without making huge brightness compromise with plasma (very low!!):

1. grey silver front projection screen, rejects ambient light if its coming from the side, rejects it very well

2. go out and find some 60 inch rear projection television, dismantle it, and use its screen with DLP, you can use mirror to shorten the throw, ambient rejection will be good , again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgLxQBTbrcs&feature=player_embedded <- it should look like this

3. Do it both.

I moved from a samsung 40" c750 shutter to a lg 47" ld950 passive and i can say from experience that the ld950 wipes the floor with any samsung set i've seen so far in 3d.
Used a sammy 680 50" plasma and the 40"c750 lcd, both had lots more xtalk than the ld950.

If you was to get lets say a c750 i'd have to advise you that the ld950 is much much better for 3d, hence the reason why i upgraded.

well yeah, that's how it goes,

2D LCD rebadging into 3D = bad
2D plasma rebadging into 3D = bad
2D DLP rebadging = good anyway

/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

since he can get a rear projection TV for so cheap, how about if we ask him if he wants LED or Laser DLP as light engine.

thanks for the replies, but as i said Finland is frankly crappy when it comes to price and selection.
the LG looks interesting, but that 1600€ price is about 1000€ than i want to pay :)

3dtv's are awsome, easy to use and you do'nt lose lamp life!

In all honesty i'd advise against a samsung active set, all 2010 models have bad xtalk i think, i was the first among friends to get 3d, 2 friends allso went 3d with samsung and all 3 different ,odels had xtalk issues.

I put up with my c750 for 6 month and most of that time was spent with low depth and xtalk, i had a hellish 6 month of trying to enjoy myself.

Now with the ld950 i CAN enjoy myself as i do'nt see xtalk all the time, now i just see it here and there once in awhile!

If you can demo your tv then do it before you buy, what was the tv you was looking at, do you haveany links
