Star Wars: The Old Republic
Haven't seen a thread on SWTOR yet, so I thought I'd try to create a central thread that people can post bugs and workarounds for SWTOR to. Anyways, SWTOR marks another prime example of a game that works well in 3D in general, but has one glaring issue that makes PLAYING in 3D very difficult. In SWTOR's case, that issue is the cursor. I constantly seem to be clicking to the right of NPC's that I want to target, so that it takes several tries to target them correctly...a real annoyance when I'm trying to switch between targets in combat. Is nVidia working on a fix for this, or is this something Bioware needs to address?

I can live with the cursor, I guess I'm used to that by now, it's the damn nameplates that stop me playing in 3D.
FWIW I rarely used tab targeting in WOW but in SWTOR I find it the only workable targeting method.

2D elements like the cursor or the nameplates probably need a Bioware fix.
WOW is as far as I know the only game to implement a 3D cursor, and that didn't make it over to the DX11 renderer, unless someone can find a contact inside Bioware to champion 3D support I don't think we'll see fixes anytime soon.

There's been a few threads on SWTOR in recent months, in one of them Andrew (before he went dark) did say they were talking to Bioware about fixing the 2D issues. Who knows the timetable, there were a lot of other technical issues that probably deserve more attention, like the broken texture resolution settings. But overall Nvidia does have a pretty good track record of getting 3D Vision fixes into MMOs since continued support and development is a part of the roadmap for those games. Rift and Aion are two good recent examples of 3D Vision support getting patched in at a later date.

Also if you guys want to try a game that works almost perfectly in S3D, you should check out FFXIV. The game sucks overall but the 3D implementation is nearly perfect with 3D nameplates and everything, only 2D mouse cursor but you can work around it by using a 360 controller, which changes to a 3D target selector. Still, its a near-perfect example of how nameplates can and should be done in 3D for any other MMO makers.

I'll try and dig up the link to Andrew's comment. Found it:

This isn't going to be fixed by NVIDIA, this is a problem with the game. In order to fix it, BioWare is going to have to put in a 3D pointer that goes to the depth of whatever it is selecting (much like NVIDIA's special crosshair). Unfortunately, very few games do this. Given how focused BioWare is on the low end market for that game, I wouldn't expect them to work on a high end feature like that. Heck, they don't even have anti-aliasing in yet!

Personally, I stopped using the pointer to select my target. Just using tab and shift tab works very well. There are several advanced options, too, that will let you shift to the next enemy or friendly.

P.S. (Though it is possible that a feature like this could help us out a lot. That would be an NVIDIA side fix.)

For people who are playing this game in 3D Surround, like myself we managed to create a fix so that the HUD is nicely centered on the middle monitor and not spanned all over the place.
The fix can be found here: http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/forums/gaming/detailed-widescreen-reports/17345/star-wars-old-republic-detailed-report?page=1

The fix is only for the placement of the HUD elements. Is not trying to fix anything about the 3D aspect. I would suggest disabling the nameplates in game however so they are not floating around and become annoying.

Best Regards,
Helifax

Yep. This game is almost 3D Ready. Basically have to fix the planets in space combat and the over convergence during cut scenes. It'll be golden after that. 3D cursor would be nice, but it's not anywhere near as annoying as Skyrim's cursor (that required a 3D cursor).
