Prices are dropping heavily on the 580 and 2 x 580's beat one 680. Question is, does it come with a lot of tweaking and frustration beside the normal 3D tweaking? Is there a lot of stuttering in games and other problems? Is it better to buy a 690 when it comes out? What are your experiences with SLI?

Be nice or i'll add a poll asking stupid retarded questions!
I'm runnin 2 570s and I haven't experienced any major problems at all. Some games don't support SLI, but those are very few. I think I have one modern game that doesn't do sli GTAIV. SLI mode will boost 3d vision performance more than double in some games! With 3d being on, and hence double the internal res of the game, I guess the video cards perform better based on the same principal as increasing res in 2d. Less cpu usage. If you've got the cash, 2 580's will rock 3d gaming for years.

I have to agree and yet disagree with some of what AcidBong says. I have ran SLI with two sets of GPUs prior to my current rig. I have ran into a few games (i.e. more than 3) that either don't support SLI and run worse, or at least poorly optimized for it. That being said, the games I'm thinking of are 2007-2010 and may not even be games that you would be playing. So in my opinion SLI does have many advantages, but is not as user friendly as non-SLI configurations no matter how you look at it.
I think the GTX580's you are referring to must be the 1.5gb versions, as my GPU (3mb) is no longer available anywhere even if I wanted to SLI them. Kepler has suddenly made it obsolete, but at the same time was such a popular card prior to Kepler, there isn't any shelf stock left. I personally plan to buy a 690 eventually and continue to run a single card, as I have enjoyed gaming more since I stopped hassling with SLI.
