[quote name='tomruman' date='Jan 4 2008, 08:34 AM']it is not 3d image, it is still flat. you have only illusion of 3d by use of movement tracking. it is still very impressive.

that's what i thought. but its still pretty cool. i wonder what if this tracking was combined with shutter glasses? /geek.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geek:' />

You'll get rid of the strange effect when you move your head (all objects in the scene are moving). This would be awesome if we could have in a soon future. :D

Hi
I use 2 projectors (2048x768 resolution) DLP 3D stereo active (shutterglasses) projection setup with Trackir 4 Pro , for flightsim (Condor soaring simulator) This is very good. Absolutly no problems. Amazing!

Oh my, yes. It's impressive and (as far as I can tell) could make gaming (at least on a monitor, not HMD) even better!
Unfortunately, the app that the guy demonstrates this trick on isn't 100% stereo compatible... it loses the targets when you turn on Stereo. The lines leading to them remain, though, and you can still see the Stereo effect on those and the background.
[edit: I discovered that this is because you press ctrl-t to enable stereo, and t disables the targets... whoops!]
If this can be used on a proper game, it could bring stereoscope more into the public eye as well (IR LEDs on shutter or polarised glasses)
<related, but maybe a little off topic for a stereo forum>
Also, hooking the Wiimote to your PC in a slightly different way leads to another, equally amazing experience; Men and Women, Young and Old, hot and not-as-hot- all want to have a go in Stereoscopic, headtracked (using an HMD- I guess the above method would give fairly impressive results) Oblivion where you swipe with the wiimote to attack, block with the nunchuk to defend and jump in real life to jump. Even if they don't want to play the game, they all say it's amazing. Now if someone would just make a heavy, metal sword and shield attachment for the Wii/nunchuk...
For those of you with a Wii, try it! Widcomm BT stack works for me and was free with my BT adaptor but most people suggest bluesoleil for some reason. You'll also need GlovePIE, which comes with scripts for Half Life etc. And with a bit of code-hacking (it's simple for me, and I normally stick to VB!), you too could add in jump, block and attack functions to games!
</off topic>
Anyway, the Wiimote headtracking is a great idea that's improved greatly with the addition of Stereo!
