460 gtx sli or...
  3 / 3
I'd like to ask a question that is related to this topic.

I currently have 2 GTX470 in SLI. Great performance, but, these cards do NOT support bitstreaming.

If I would switch to a Dual GTX460, would there be a major difference? Would I lose so much that my games would suffer dramatically? I would love to get bitstreaming for my audio setup AND get 3D for movies and games.

The obvious bonus for me is to throw away my Xonar HDAV card...

Any comments?

2 460's, any day. i have 1 msi cyclone 460 gtx. it's got great airflow and a great fan, so i've got it oc'd to 900mhz and it runs fine (and relatively cool). at that clock speed it nearly outperforms a 480 by itself. sli 2 together and you've got a 480 beat by something like 75%! and for less $!

no contest. simply no contest.

the 460's run a lot cooler so you can OC them to make up any performance loss, which is fairly minimal anyways. i've got mine oc'd to 900mhz (upped the voltage to 1037) and its cool and stable and at that speed outperforms a stock 470. heck, it's neck and neck w/a stock 480.

though what would you do with your 470's? pity to waste that.

Hello mate, with a good overclock on the dual 460's you can easily have them upto dual 470 performance, and the beauty of the gf104 chip (460) compared to the gf100 (470\480) is its runs alot cooler and with less power consumption. Xonar HDAV is a good card though and whilst true lossless bit-streaming is the pinnacle of audio, unless you have the speakers to do it justice i doubt you'd notice much difference.

If your in the UK let me know if your gonna sell those 470's /stud.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':stud:' />

Great guys! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the offer on the 470s - I already have a prospect buyer.

I will probably go that route.

I understand about the differences between Bitstreaming and LPCM but, it is more a matter to "really" find out in which mode the movie really is in - my receiver (and myself) are happy when we see DTA-MA 7.1... ohwell. Since TMT 3 has now official support for the 460 for bitstreaming...

I guess I will go the Dual 460 and overclock them! That will probably happen in the next two weeks.

PS. If my prospect does not buy... I'll let you know!
