Yet Another 3D Vision Issue: Lesser Priviledged Account Functionality
When playing the game SFxT, I wait until I do Bison's team attack super move and wait until he gets past the borders of the screen so that it will cause eye strain. Then I pause it to adjust the convergeance by using ctrl+f5. I toggle that til it no longer has eye strain on that part. But when choosing another character and then exiting out and choosing Bison again, the convergeance level undoes itself and I will have to do the adjusting all over again. I also pressed ctrl+f7 to save the settings when I adjusted it the first time. It never saves. I look in the registry and there are no settings saved for SFxT. So basically, the driver doesn't write to the registry properly when in a lesser priviledged account. I have a Admin account set up on my pc and I always use a lesser account (advanced safety measures carried over from using XP so long ago). I'm on windows 7 now. So my question is, what can I do to force admin priviledges on the driver so it can do what it is supposed to do on a lesser priviledged account?

I believe its a limitation of Windows, but I'm not entirely sure. On a non admin account you are only allowed to write to the registry on parts that only effect the user it is logged on as, the part of the registry that stores convergence values is in the part under programs and will need an admin account. Also eye strain isn't something you should be able to effect with convergence, it means you have too much depth. You can't really strain your eyes by crossing them (convergence), they will just cease to focus, but with divergence (depth), you certainly can.

My eyes hurt if I have too much pop-out because it's basically uncomfortable for me to go cross-eyed. Whether you call that 'eye-strain' or not is just semantics, it still hurts ;-) The only way depth causes eye strain is if the depth is greater than your own IPD, though I guess people need to 'work up to' 100% if they are new to stereo 3d. Your eyeballs themselves, regardless of depth or convergence, are always focusing on the exact same distance - eyeball -> screen.

I didn't know you could get strain from crossing your eyes, its certainly not something I get. Also depth can exceed your IPD, the amount of depth you can have is entirely dependent on how far away you are from the display. If you use depth hacks and set your depth stupid high, your eyes will explode at normal sitting distance, but move back 10ft or so and its all good.

I have trouble with too much pop-out as well, I think it's related to screen size and or distance but I don't have a 3D monitor to do any comparisons on, just the 65" DLP.

The convergence is no longer stored in the registry: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/547475/3d-vision/does-anyone-know-where-convergence-values-are-now-stored-how-to-change-them-without-starting-game-/ Probably still affected by admin privileges. Try running the game with admin once, set the convergence, and see. You can manually change that value if you like. Or you could use a Helix technique to bind it to a key.

what I meant by eye strain is when the character gets too close to the screen and the part of their body that is in that area gets doubled, causing eye discomfort. shifting the convergeance to push them back a little to make that part become clear solves that problem. I tried running the game with admin priviledges and it didn't work (the whole process, not the game). seems to reset every time I choose characters and restart the match even while still in admin mode on the game. but shouldn't it stay the way I put it until I close the game and then restart? it undoes itself after every character selection without a game restart. odd. Is it possible to edit the priviledges of a piece of the nvidia program by using right click on a nvidia piece > security tab > edit priviledges? If so, which nvidia exe or dll should I do that to?

Hmmmm, I wasnt aware SFTK used NVAPI for convergence settings but its a possiblility. Try this. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/06/how-to-unlock-convergence-in-locked.html You might not be able to save your convergence setting [Depends. You'll know if you cant because it will reset]. But it wont keep changing in game. Like you will only have to do it once regardless.

Works! It's just sad that if you don't fix when the character gets close to the screen, the ingame 3D is better, but if you do the ingame 3D is just ok. The super meters and life bars don't help either lol. Also, when looking at your target, the foreground menus and selections and stuff gets dual visioned, but if you look at the foreground stuff, the stuff in the background gets dualed visioned. That is how real life depth works but it's kinda weird when digitized. It does that without the nvapi as well so I'm just telling ya'll an experience I have :) I wonder why this game never got any helix mods to fix the huds, hyper-backgrounds, win screen backgrounds, etc. If only there were something to detect the zoom ins so that we can have a separate setting for that compared to the rest of the game. Thanks for this dll. eqzitara, have there been any work arounds like this to ignore the in-game converegeance bar in sleeping dogs to use the nvidia hotkeys instead? I tried doing it manually in the game files but that is glitchy and it resets when you touch the in-game convergeance meter again. Plus it's hard to try to get what you want because you can't look at the game while toggling it. None of the settings in-game fixes the 'too close to the screen issue'. One scene that does this is right at the beginning when the 2 cops are looking at the surveilance footage.
