An Observation made with 3D Vision and FPS...
  1 / 2
Hey everyone, so I wanted to see what everyone thought about my opinion. I've been using 3D vision for almost a year now. I have since upgraded from the Samsung display to the Acer GD235. Anyways after playing quite a few games only on 3D, I have come to a quick observation that First Person Shooters tend to suck on 3D. Don't get me wrong, playing an intense game like BFBC or COD in 3D sounds exhilirating and there are moments where it is, but if you play Third person adventure/shooter games such as Just Cause 2, Prototype, Batman AA, RE5, Avatar, Mafia 2 etc (the list goes on), you'll quickly notice that 3D Gaming is suited for that genre, it just screams WOW everytime.

I still use primarily my 30" Samsung 305T+ display for FPS and RTS and some other games but Always bring on the 3D Gaming when it comes to 3rd person games.
In a day and age where FPS games are heavily pushed and big time sellers like RPG's have geared towards FPS games, I wonder if 3D Gaming will make a push for 3rd person games. I remember when JRPG's were the most hyped and revered games (back in '95-'03). What do you guys think?

I prefer every game in 3d fps or not.

But I have to agree it's cool to see yourself in 3rd person...
Should be cool if there's an option in the game, where you can switch between fps and 3d person...like you can switch the camera view of your car in Mafia II.
The only reason why I turn my 3d vision of in some game (for a moment) is because of low framerates (BF Bad co 2)or motionsickness like in racing games, were everything goes a little to fast to be comfortable.
If I get 'low' framerates like in BadCo2 ,there are times I switch of 3d just to get more point, because I can react a little faster,..but I still prefer to turn it on most of the time tho....
Bioshock for example doesn't have this problem,it has a high framerate ,and easy targets ..so easy to play also with 3d on.

Just cause 2 ,Avatar, Batman etc are not that chaotic as a game like Battlefield where you play against lots of reall people, with good skill and no 3d to distract them.
So in my opinion It's doesn't matter if it's FPS or 3rd person it's more depends on the game itself.

I prefer games that have a direction, and I don't see that kinda direction in the games U mentioned. I rather play more with my favorites, getting accustomed to a game is harder than ever since I play in 3d. And I won't get used to arcade fashioned gameplay mechanics, just because you said that it looks cool in 3d!! This must be a joke.
Maybe you should try metro2033 , borderlands on a 720p DLP projector, and talk afterwards.

If you don't like either , then its safe to tell , you don't like the genre, hell maybe you don't even like photoreal stuff, nothin wrong with that mate. Just try to not mix the cheesy , overrated stuff like Valve, and fallout3 with other, serious games ( Metro2033, Borderlands).

These are the games I play with, and I can't play with batman, jc2, mafia2 , I look at it and feel no urge to try, thx , but arcade , semi arcade is not my stuff. I have hella fine 16bit arcade games on emulator If I want to play with arcade game, japanese programmers, art , japanese musicians , what more can you ask... ( s3d?.. ok maybe, LOL)

My opinion was not to come off as rude as you took it.... I simply said I dont find FPS's that great on 3D. I play more FPS than I have time for trust me. And yeah Metro 2033 is the only game I enjoyed FPS on 3D but still Metro 2033 isn't a good First Person Shooter as you put it...if your talking about quality of games.

The games I chose there are quality games, and I wasnt saying FPS aren't quality games, PC has been built around FPS in the past decade or so and alot of them are amazing... I Didnt know I had to specify so much so I wouldn't get such crappy posters after. The fact that you say "valve" games are overrated.. what the hell does that even mean? Every game valve made is crap? Pretty sure Half Life would be rated as a top 10 PC game of all time. And your comparing it to Metro 2033 and borderlands lol... Thanks for your input bud!

I tend to agree with the thrid person adventure genre. My fave games seems mostly be 3'rd person adventures probably because i simply refuse to play without stereo-3d. There are of course fps that rocks as well like the hl2 series, fear1 & 2 etc etc. No rule without exception and the personal taste in games of course matters a lot.

portal2 on ps3 won't have MOVE , or s3d either. For some reason valve has legions of fanboys, it boggles the mind.

Could it be that i like the hl2 series because it's good? Portal is also great eventhough way too short. It was some kind of well turned out experiment if i'm not wrong. Looking forward to portal2 nonethless since i'm on pc. If 3d doesn't work from beginning it should only be a matter of time before profiles are added. Most developers today wait and see what happens with 3d before they "waste" resources on it (resources which in my opinion are vanishing small compared to other matters about developing games).
I can understand that valves recent policy (broken promises about upgrades for l4d that instead probably was included in l4d2 for instance...) among other things upset people but more or less all gamedevelopers do this today though. /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

I remember much much more about Duke Nukem 3d than HL1 . In fact I disliked HL1 so much, never tried HL2 . I only tried it recently because of s3d, well looks like it aged very fast LOL ( unlocked all levels, been here&there). Too much hype, way too much.
