Fastest card with good drivers? Which one would be recommended for VTM?
Hello,
Currently I use a GeForce 6600 GT in a socket 754 system with an AMD64 2800+ and 1.5 Gb ram to drive my Emagin Z800 visor (headset with dual 800x600 native OLED screens with motion tracker). Framerates in Vampire The masquerade, bloodlines (which uses the halflife 2 engine, but is also not the most framerate optimised program using that engine) are in my opinion a bit low, this is annoying because the movement of your head feels 'laggy' and therefore less natural and the immersive experience is worse than with smooth framerates. From these forums it seems that drivers with support for the newer cards are very buggy, and an NForce 4 + 7800 GT is about the same price as an AGP version of the 7800 (the GS). From reading the later driver notes, I saw some bugs in the newest cards got fixed, which were not fixed in the 78.01 ones. Now I wonder:
1) Are there many bugs that prevent the correct working of the 7800 GT on this game with 78.01 drivers?
2) Is an upgrade with this card and a new motherboard enough to get smooth framerates when viewing on dual 800x600 screens, despite the underpowered socket and processor? (If not then I should better wait until drivers have matured and buy a complete upgrade much later.)
Thank you!
