fry's 3d vision demo booth err
  1 / 2
I've been eyeing 3d vision like a hawk. Finally I went to fry's that had working 3d demo booth. Before either they were turned off or someone broke the glasses.

checked it out real good. not quite impressed to say the least. borderline disappointed to be honest. where is the 3d? All i saw was glasses making the double images come to focus. I saw no 3d, at least not what I've expected. I was expecting sort of disney land 3d experience like stuff popping out of the screen.

I don't know where you live but here in Houston... the 1000s of people working at Fry's are about the LEAST Knowledgable KIDS in electronics. You might find someone know KINDA sorta knows what they are talking about in the motherboard section but thats it.. Other wise it's a bunch of kids working minimum wage wearing some VERY tight black pants and couldn't tell the difference from a mother board to a toaster.

It isn't perfect 3d but if you get it at fry's you can return it with a 15% restocking fee. If Wal-mart had these you could buy it and try it out.

ya, the Fry's setup in north county San Diego wasn't too impressive as well, and I didn't even see it until after I made the purchase...the booths cannot display 3d vision to its full potential as you can't play with games or mess around with the settings like depth or convergence.

You weren't experiencing it correctly, I guarantee it. Likely the depth was set too low and the convergence wasn't adjusted properly. Once setup correctly, there really would not be a question about whether you are viewing 3d or not. Your experience at Fry's is absolutely not the experience we have with a well setup 3d kit.

You did not see 3d stereo correctly and it pains me that Fry's has it set up so badly. I wonder how many potential customers they have turned away merely because no one has taken the time to learn how to tweak it correctly.

What were they demonstrating? Was it a game or a video? If it's a game, then there's a little wheel on the back of the emitter (the black pyramid with the glowing green nvidia logo) which controls how deep the picture is. That might have been rolled right back.

I saw Samsung demonstrating 3D vision on their exhibition stand. It wasn't working. I called the demonstrator over and we spoke about it. He couldn't understand why it wasn't working. I pointed out that there was no emitter. Apparently they had locked it in a cupboard so that nobody could adjust it. That meant that the glasses were flickering like crazy, but at a different frequency to the screen. People were walking by, picking up the glasses, looking, squinting, putting the glasses down and walking away.

Absolutely hopeless. And that was Samsung!

If you saw double images then the batteries on the glasses were probably dead. Check the top left side of the glasses--there should be a green light. If they don't know what they're doing make them break out the manual and get it working. It's their job.

Trying to marketing stereo on these kind of shops more hurts than do stereo-3d any good. The point is to show the effect which indeed is awesome but if something doesn't work properly it's of course way worse than even 2d. :( I recall iz3d had bad showcases of their monitors at fry's as well.

I love Frys, but man their demo units of 3D Vision are all fubard. I'm not even convinced their hooked up right. I went to Frys to a demo booth, put on glasses and nothing... It's never worked every time I've been there. Stupid.

My experience with the fry's demo is much the same tbh... only instead of the settings being to low, I believe they were set to max. So almost instantly as I put the glasses on I got mild eye strain.

Hi All

A couple of comments on our Fry's demos.

First, we usually play videos only, recorded at low depth values. We use videos since its better for a retail environment. This isnt ideal since the depth is hard coded and you cant adjust it.

Second, if you want to experience 3D Vision in person, we invite you to come to many of the LAN events we attend such as PDX LAN, QuakeCon, Fragapalooza, BlizzCon, and more. I guarantee you there will be a 3D Vision setup there.

Finally, if you see a failing Fry's demo, let me know. We have a retail team that can fix it!

Thanks.

Frys Austin! Your neck of the woods. :) Last few times I was there, it was broken. Been a few months though. Long drive from Dripping Springs ;)

Friend familiar with mine saw people at the Fountain Valley Fry's walking away from the demo in awe, he put the glasses on and it wasn't functioning, hehehe

They had a demo of Burnout Paradise running at the Fry's I went to (San Marcos, CA). It's what convinced me to get a 3D Vision setup.

Frys demo here (probably 5 min from where Andrew works if its the Nvidia near Great America) in San Jose had a decent setup working. The emitter was accessible for those to manually adjust depth... not sure how many people that are actually interested in buying it would know that, but I did and my friend went from, "its kinda cool" to "holy freak! and you got this on a 67 incher!?"
...sadly it was only WOW playing... RE5 or Batman woulda killed it!
