rear projection, with this material - a dark grey screen , that has gain too!
http://3dvirtualblack.com/
maybe It can reach 500-1000 contrast in ambient light.
it needs a lot of room, so thats the biggest obstacle. Maybe with mylar sheet mirror you can cut it down somewhat or project thru a doorstep from a darkened room into a less dark.

I've seen there is a company making a similar black screen but for front projection. It's called the SI Black Diamond II.
The price is quite steep though.

yeah, thats unnacceptable. And I doubt it rejects ambient light?
3dvb is way cheaper , and ordering overseas shouldn't be a problem cause it s insensitive to wrinkles.

Well it's a front projection screen so some light has to bounce back, and it's only a 1.4 gain with quite wide viewing angles compared with the DVB.
The two products target very different markets, I have never seen the Black Diamond personally but the youtube videos are really impressive for a front projection screen.

Owning an IMAX screen would be my dream. :) Seriously, though, I'm content with what I have. I suppose having any quality 1080p projector with a 120" screen would suffice. I'll never have it, but it certainly is awesome to think about.

tritosine, why is the 3D Virtual Black so important, do you intend to build yourself a polarised Dual-projector setup with this screen or will you just the Acer 5360 on it ?

I want at least 3-4 different screens at home , and right I'll just beam the H5360 onto it. BTW this is an 55" slice, a quasi TV ;) .
With a flight simulator I find darkened room not optimal, since its "lit up" way too much.

Since projection setups require a special room and no light, my ideal setup would be a three monitor solution. We are limited to the 23 inch 3d 120 Hz monitors right now, so I have my dream setup with 3 AW 2310's. If I had the option, my dream setup would be 3x 30in monitors @ 2560x1600 @ 120Hz (this would be amazing, but the video card power to push this is probably a long ways off). I am waiting for the 3d surround drivers to come out with great anticipation so I can see my dream system come to life. Hopefully it will be out in the next couple days since we were given the end of June as the supposed release date (this date has already been pushed back a few times now, so don't hold your breath).

if we are talking about today's available tech i would go for a 83" Mitsubishi DLP tv. works great in my high light living room.
