Tomb Raider and 314.21 Beta Drivers
Any one see any performance difference with the new 314.21 beta drivers? I see none whatsoever (not a single FPS). My system is i5-3570@4.2 GHz and 2xGTX570 in SLI. There is a scene in Shanty Town where my FPS hovers around 38 FPS with settings at Ultra, but tessellaaion, DOF, and post processing turned off, and the new driver makes no difference. Neither my CPU nor my cards are at full usage either (with the cards neither GPU usage nor memory usage is maxed). For what its worth I had to do a 'clean install' else the stereo was all screwed up.

Yep, same here. I still even get a crash every now and then (not as often as before though) with tesselation on. One of the biggest setting which affected the fps was level of detail. There's more than a 10fps difference between ultra and high, between high and normal, you get another >10 fps increase. So let's say you drop level of detail from ultra to normal, you'll get a good ~24fps increase. Of course the game doesn't look as good but the difference in fps is huge. No other setting has such a big impact on fps and I've tried them all. So I settled with level of detail on high, as there wasn't that big of a difference in iq between ultra and high. This of course is most noticeable in places with a lot of draw distance (such as looking down onto the shantytown from somewhere far up high) but it's also noticeable in places where there's lots of detailed structures and such. Imo the image quality difference between the settings isn't consistent with the decrease in fps. Maybe another patch and more optimized drivers could help with this because it's clearly an optimization issue. Maybe I can find screenshots from somewhere with different "level of detail" setting so we could more easily see the difference between the settings.

Yes much improvement for me, ~10fps increase and much more stable. Had to decrease OC compared to other games for it to be stable. Playing it in 3D (which is incredible) on M17x R3 GTX 580m.

I think SLI is still an issue here. I got a little bit of an improvement in performance with the latest patch and the new beta drivers, but I still get occasional crashes caused by tesselation. I'm using the COD World at War profile to get the 3D laser sights working but I'm using the Tomb Raider SLI flags from the latest beta drivers. There are some serious issues with CPU optimization in some instances, and it's where you get extreme fps drops with low GPU usage. These places are easy to spot because of the sudden decrease in fps (with sudden low GPU usage) with the character looking at a certain direction, but once you turn around, the fps jump back to normal (along with high GPU usage). The game just needs more optimization, both within the game itself and in GPU drivers.
Thanks for this - I put level of detail down to "normal" and as you note its a 20+ FPS increase in Shanty Town. I did visual comparisons of the different levels and decided that 'normal' was not that bad (only noticeably less detail when doing actual side by side comparisons) so I am sticking with that.

I am playing with these beta drivers and the newest TR patch and there are no crashes. I am using the "high" preset in the settings menu (tesselation off).

i try the last beta driver + last update of the game and the game runs a bit better. Now i: 1) Enable Tesselation, i dont have more crashes like before when i enable this option....i still testing. 2) Increase Shadows from normal to ultra, ultra option is available with the last patch of the game. I dont noticed any significant increase of fps, but i feel the game runs smoother. I dont have SLI and play 720p (3DTV Play).
