World of Warcraft used to work flawlessly, now unplayable in 3D

The problem exists for everyone. The reason that article is valid and it worked is because they were only flying around. Once you actually start playing the game the problems begin. Everytime you hit any kind of action or open any menu or anything at all that uses the interface it messes up the 3D.

Or they could be using one of the earlier monitors with an earlier driver.

Yeah that's what is bizarre about the whole ordeal - the fact that they plan to use WoW for showing off 3D vision.

I wouldn't NOT buy it, and I can't go back to 2D gaming now - it's just not on the same level of experience. See? Even with sh!tty support and lackluster updates I can't help but endorse it because it's just that cool.

Everything I buy from nVidia fails to work properly, but it's all so great when it DOES work that you can't help but just enjoy the fleeting moments of graphical goodness their hardware can sometimes produce, on a good day, when the moon and stars align, if you're lucky. 3D Vision and SLI fall into that category, and together they're a hopeless proposition unless you're prepared to try 40 things to get your $1000+ worth of GPUs and monitors working properly.

WoW "does" work with new drivers with the addon in this thread.

Avatar only works in 3D without SLI (useless 2nd videocard, hurray)

Metro 2033 may or may not work - if it doesn't, adjust the in game settings back & forth - if that doesn't work, reboot, then it will (nothing like seamless gaming!!!!)

BFBC2 works, but not with the 257 drivers and even then not for everyone.

Batman seems to work OK even though I get no SLI indicators, so maybe SLI is working maybe not.

It's almost enough to make a person want a crappy console instead! (almost... but no)

Despite all that crap, it's still the only thing mainstream enough out there to work at all, and when it works it's glorious. When it doesn't, you either invest *Hours* trying to make it work or just seethe in silence.

Buy it.

But that's what I don't get....it seems extremely shady to me that the game has been broken for everyone for almost 6 months, yet it is still listed under the 'excellent' section in the 3D Vision website, and they are using it to demonstrate the technology in CURRENT trade shows knowing full well it wont really work?!

I'm traditionally a huge Nvidia fan and I will likely still ultimately buy the 3D vision kit because the tech looks so damn fun. However, this WoW issue screams Better Business Bureau report to me. This is false advertising for a very expensive product. Can't they be sued for this kind of practice?

It wouldn't even seem so bad if we had a timeline for a fix, or at least we were getting some feedback/status updates from the Nvidia/Blizzard mods...

This is the recipe for disaster that Nvidia uses when they whip up a big batch of their Infamous Greedy Pound Cake.

First you must prepare the bowl by greasing it with nothing less than pure greed then place bowl in an industrial freezer to simulate Nvidia cold heart.

Second you will need to mix all the ingreedience of incompetency and denial along with more lots more powdered greed, a few rotten tomatoes and a dead salmon to symbolize that the fish stinks from the head down and finnish with more greed.

Third step is to mix the wet ingreedience with the dry. Now this is where all the love happens so be carful not to miss any steps here or your cake will not be as poorly developed as Nvidia's 3D vision driver team. You may want to heat the dishonesty up with hell fire first as it tends to clump and pour like Nvidia fixes for games that use to work but now don’t like world of warcraft (after all you would not want to promise to have the Greedy Pound Cake ready for a big event…….say like a new major game release and you’re a no show with the goods. That would just be im-bear-ASS-ing). You have to make sure you have left the eggs out in the sun for at least a week, don’t bother cracking them just throw the whole egg in shell and all. This is so you personally don’t have to smell the stink of shame. Let the end user smell it when they get home and rip the packaging off their new cake and realize that they have been dup..blab bla bla lol its not like you care anyways……right, someone else’s problem.

Last step is to bake it with poor service and outright lies for months on end. For a crispier crust that cuts the roof of your mouth like shards of salt coated glass sprinkle on some No Other Options Because They Have Your Money and lay down a towel of So Long Sucker across the top while it cools

Serve chilled like Nvidias responses to honest questions and a bottle of jack to drown your sorrows.

Enjoy :)

I have decided to go back to the old drivers, but now WOW has it's own sliders. Anyone know the best way to set this up? Last time I played in 3D I had the Depth to 100% and used the converance to get the "toy" effect.

I cant seem to do that now :(

I'm still using 3D vision CD v1.20 with the 196.21 drivers, as the next two releases after someone said broke Tomb Raider Underworld which I haven't finished yet. I'll of course instantly update my drivers once theres ones that work for WoW. Trying to figure out if there are certain drivers that are better for Fallout 3, as I'm starting to really get into that now, but see quite a few 3D issues with my drivers, that I don't know if I'm supposed to be putting up with.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to pass along some news again. I've been in contact with a few nVidia representatives (including high VPs) over last few weeks about this (see, reporting to the BBB does work ;) and here is the shocking reality:

1) nVidia is only aware of the depth problem that occurs when you alt+tab out of the game and back in. They have been working on a fix for this coming in the next patch of WoW.
2) nVidia doesn't read this forum at all, no one who can help with this problem knows it exists (or at least they won't admit it).
3) nVidia swears that their 3D Vision product works excellent in WoW (with exception to the depth problem mentioned in 1) - its mind boggling, but I was contacted by an nVidia representative who actually plays wow all the time and he says he has zero problems with it.

Note: The patch I mentioned in a previous post is probably a reference to the fix for #1 - which I believe is could be bad news for us.

I'm fighting as hard as possible with them right now but really, I don't think they will do much of anything. I keep having to send the same information (this forum posting, the wow forum postings, etc) to the representatives - its as if they don't talk to each other or just hand the problem around to various people to deal with. I would encourage anyone here to post a complaint to the BBB - you will get a response from nVidia if you do. The more visible the problem is, the more likely we are to get action.

Finally, I have to mention the new Alienware OptXâ„¢ AW2310 - its a nice monitor but requires the very latest nvidia drivers to even being to render anything in 3D. This also means wow is totally screwed in 3D with this monitor and I have also noticed in-game cursor for most of my other games (Roller Coaster Tycoon for example) just disappears on this monitor. Same problem with the nVidia 3D Setup wizzard - no cursor. It just keeps getting worse and worse...

I'm sure someone who works for NVidia reads the forum, I doubt they have any pull in determining what gets worked on.
Right now I use the 191.07 drivers which work fine in WOW (except the alt-tab issue), as far as I can tell every driver after this one is broken.
I'd bet that the dev's at Blizzard aren't testing on drivers this old, so it's probably just a matter of time before a patch in WOW exposes a bug in the older drivers and then what?

I don't think it reflects well on NVidia that they still claim excellent support for 3D in WOW, given the game is unplayable on the latest drivers, and has been for months.

I understand they probably want to concentrate on new releases, but a lot of people play WOW. Given it worked in one driver and not in subsequent drivers, I can't imagine it's all that hard for them to track down the change that broke it. I work in software development, and I find it hard to believe that an issue like this that has to affect a lot of customers doesn't make it onto the must fix bug list. Perhaps someone in the review meeting thinks the bug that keeps getting filed is just the old ALT-Tab issue and deferring it.

It would be nice to know if NVidia even consider it to be their bug or Blizzards.

I'm just venting, but being stuck on older divers prevents me from upgrading video cards, monitors, getting 3D surround to work when NVidia finally ship it.
Wow used to be perfect but I'm not sure if it was a blizzard patch or nvidia driver that messed it up. There's no way to completly converge the ui anymore. The hotbars don't line up so you can't see what's on cooldown and the character portraits and all the menus don't line up. If you turn the 3d to the lowest settings it comes close but still not completely an it used to be fine.

I tried messing with the settings both through the 3d vision advanced menu and the wow menu, and I tried it with addons disabled and enabled but can't get it looking right. If you change the settings in the wow menu it lines up for a second but then when you do anything at all, it breaks again.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? I spend a lot of time in wow and I have to disable 3dvision so I feel like it's being completely wasted.
