is there any way to set fixed custom convergence settings for individual games? so you don't have to manually adjust the convergence to the sweet spot every single time, as that can take quite a while

Go to nvidia control panel-> set up stereoscopic 3d-> set keyboard shortcuts-> advanced
Change keys for everything to something more convient imo. Should see a "save settings". Thats what you need.
also go here if you havent yet

An alternate method is(after "enabling advanced in-game settings") to use a recent HelixMod release d3d9.dll and DX9Settings.ini to save the settings to a 'key' and load them by default afterwards, it's not that complicated and you can actually save both the Separation(Depth) and Convergence separately for each game. It's a little bit more work but the good thing about this method is you won't lose the saved settings when you do a driver update.
Just unzip/copy a release d3d9.dll(newest at the top) into the folder with the game's exe and save the following as DX9Settings.ini
[General]
PresetsKeysList = 1;
[KEY1]
Key = 85
Presets = 1;
[PRES1]
UseSepSettings = True
SaveSepSettings = True
UseByDef = True
Separation = 0x42c80000
*(Separation = 0x42c80000=100/Changeable)
Now once in-game you'd press the U key('Key = 85'=U/Changeable) to 'activate' it and then adjust your Convergence, and Separation if necessary, now press the F7 key(Just the F7 key) to save the settings. The saved settings will automatically load next time you run the game ... it's pretty simple once you're used to it. :)
A couple things to note, there's no on-screen display to show that it did save using this method and if you Alt-Tab out of the game after you've changed and saved settings(while the game is still running) it will 'revert' to the settings that are in memory from when you started the game, just press the U key to update to the saved settings stored the ini.

thx, does the helix mod work at all for games that are not found on it's game list?
company of heroes, in this case.
it seems that saving these convergence settings will apply the effect to all games, rather than just the individual game, as pressing "U" to apply changes in an entirely different game loads saved changes meant for another

It works, in this manner at least, with most dx9 games, it won't 'fix' them by itself but you can almost always save Convergence and Separation this way.
Sorry, not sure on that one as I don't have that game, although it looks like it's dx9 from the steam page. Some games might have the Convergence locked, and you might need to use alternate methods, dependant on the game, to unlock it.
The d3d9.dll and the DX9Settings.ini would have to be saved in any and every game's exe folder you'd want to use it on. The ini example doesn't have Convergence set, just Separation set to 100, but once you save to an ini it will store the Convergence, if you copied a saved ini to a new game's directory then it would load the Convergence from it in the new game.
