2D Gaming

What games do you play in 2D. I'm thinking unfixed games. Online games with anti-cheat where fixing might be unwise. Games where a hardware mouse pointer at screen depth makes it fairly impossible to target buildings. The list can be quite long.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.
To have a critical piece of code that everyone can enjoy!
What more can you ask for?

There's the Homeworld series. helifax was kind enough to give the remastered series a shot. Someone was going to give the newest one, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak an attempt to fix 2 weeks ago but I'm guessing it proved too difficult... I'm biassed though, as I have a sentimental spot for this franchise ;-)

Anyone that plays Red Faction with a certified 3D Vision monitor, plays it in 2D. No one has ever figured out why it doesn't work. It has a demo, if anyone wants to give it a shot. I'm not sure if it's possible to play it in 3D with TriDef either.

Some fighting games like streetfighter 5 and MK X. There could be an argument made that for these 2.5d fighters so to speak that 3dvision could be a disadvantage competitively. That's about it and any game that's specifically 2D only. Other than that nothing, If I had the choice Id exclusively play in 3d otherwise. I find with the mouse cursor at screen depth issue, usually you can work around this good enough with appropriate convergence and depth settings. Path of exile is a fair example of the later. It's amazing in 3d even with this issue. (trick is to set convergence so the mouse cursor is just above your characters head)

Red Faction, the first one. It uses dx8 It's rated excellent by Nvidia, which must have been a legacy rating. The emitter comes on, but the image is mono. TsaebehT, bo3b and myself have messed with it unsuccessfully. When I was playing WoW, I played in 2D 70% of the time, because it mostly consists of grinding the same thing every day. So I'd watch Netflix on my other screen while grinding.

Can confirm playing Red Faction 1 in 3D either with nvidia Legacy drivers or Elsa Revelator 3D drivers. I bet it still works great with an old card and ~Windows 98.

None ! Like necropants points out, in RTS games where the pointer is at screen depht, you can adjust convergence till the pointer is alligned with the ground, works for me every time.

I play a bunch of 2D games. At present, I'm actively playing through Sunless Sea, Fez, Back to the Future, Gemini Rue, Hacknet. I have a ton of 2D games in my library that are on my "to play" list - largely oldschool style point and click adventures, but a few others as well. I prefer 3D, but there are plenty of excellent games that are 2D by nature.

Back to the Future works in 3D, the hints are 2D, but can be turned off.

2D games are practically non-existent for me, bitten by the 3D bug I guess. I still play Alpha Centuari however, which can only be played in 2D. This game hands down has the best AI and balancing for a 4X strategy game. I don't think I will ever get sick of.... "Don't go, the drones need you......they look up to you...."

Cool. Last Telltale game I tried wasn't great out of the box, so I didn't bother testing.

Apart from emulators that can't be used with 3D Vision (I'm sad about PCSX2): - 2D games, obviously. - Very few shooters where I need minimum input lag and not to deal with convergence screwing my aim. - Resident Evil Revelations and RE6: I hesitate between 2D and 3D. My accuracy is practically perfect in 2D, while it's more difficult for me in 3D, but it looks so nice in 3D... - Some OpenGL games (I somewhat hate the API for that). - The new Wolfenstein games. I don't like playing them at 30fps with sequential frames (I would deal with 30fps if the frames weren't sequential, I think). Turning at medium-high speeds hurts a bit. - Old polygonal games that don't work in 3D.
