I-Glasses 3D Pro HMD problem Unable to get 3D stereo to work with this HMD
  1 / 2
Hello nvidia people

I bought a pair of "I-Glasses 3D Pro" a couple years back and the hmd worked really well in stereoscopic 3D with the available nvidia drivers back then. My pc at the time had the following GFX card 6800 Ultra running on an xp operating system. I have now upgraded to a new PC and now have two 8800 ultra running in sli config with a Vista 64 bit operating system, but when i update the 3D stereo drivers to the very latest version i am no longer able to activate the 3D stereo effect of the i-glasses which used to work before, nothing appears 3D.

Is there any indication that nvidia is going to increase there display support to include hmd`s like the earlier drivers did a few years back ? it seems a bit limited to only support 3 types of zalman monitors when there is a huge range of hmd`s out there which may rely on nvidia drivers to work in my case nvidia drivers are my only source to get the hmd to work properly to view in 3D stereo.

In a dismal attempt to get the I-glasses 3D pro to work I made my system dual boot with xp operating system in an attempt to recreate the pc setup i had on my previous pc to get the hmd to work but when installing the nvidia drivers back then it did not work as the drivers at that time would not work with the newer 8800 ultra card.

Any ideas if it is at all possible to get them to work by any other means like 3rd party drivers or something like that ? It just seems annoying that people can spend alot of money on hmd`s that were supported at the time of purchase to only find out later that the software drivers relied on to make your hardware work does not get updated as new nvidia GFX cards are being placed on the market.

humm i dont think they will, they will be selling there own glasses soon, but you could try over at this fourm http://www.mtbs3d.com they have a great fan base with lots of no how on stereo 3d , and great drivers for nvida cards aswell.

Wow, I just purchased a GTX 260 and paid the Nvidia tax over a cheaper/faster 4870 so I could support my iGlasses. I couldn't have been more surprised to find out Nvidia quietly dropped support for them in favor of their own ancient and headache prone technology! Why Nvidia? You may have lost a longtime and very dedicated fan!!

I just checked and by a quick look it seems like the I-Glasses 3D Pro uses an interlaced signal. They should work splendid with the iz3d drivers which are not critical to hardwaresystems (opsystems, graphcards etc). Surely worth a try.

Likay is correct. The iZ3D driver is now fully supported using S3D shutter "Marked" mode with a firmware upgrade from eMagin iirc.

iZ3D to the rescue once again. nVidia: Pay Attention!

We bought our headsets, projectors, and other technologies because you promised us, and I quote "We are committed to Stere3D". Only for you to release this new driver which sheds support for all those technologies we the core community invested thousands in.

We bought your shutter glasses, and in doing so, we paid for the driver. Now deliver on your promises.

I-Glasses 3D and 3D Visor Z800 are completely different products and only the second one is made by eMagin and has quite good support for 3D Stereo by using Iz3D's driver and a later firmware (hardware upgradable only!), but the situation with I-Glasses 3D is not that good... I'm still unable to make mine work in 3D Stereo with Iz3D's driver.

True. But when i googled these it said they were using interlaced as format. They should then run without any problems (syncing or whatsoever) at all with the iz3d driver. Maybe a typo?

Quite so, Apologies for the confusion - I have had both the Z800 and the i-Glasses.

From what I recall, My i-glasses SVGA 3D used the nVidia driver in page-flipping mode and everything worked. Bad HMD though... severe discolouring and low refresh rates... this was way back in 2004 or so, don't know what they currently support or their quality.

iZ3D provides several page flipping modes as well as interlaced modes.

I haven't played with the I-Glasses and the latest betas from iZ3D, maybe I should try making them work again... I don't remember when was the last time I tried them making them work together, so quite a lot of time should've passed since them and maybe there is some improvement. I remember seeing two 3D modes in the I-Glasses menu and you were able to switch between them, but I couldn't find any info about what is the difference between the two modes.

Anyway it really is a shame that Nvidia has dropped the support for all the hardware that relied only on their stereo drivers!

Yup.. Nvidia and 3d together is really starting to be a niche product. Originally you only needed an nvidiacard but now... No winxp, no older cards and of course nvidia cards still are needed, no generic 3d hardwares are supported anymore. This is a shame since most 3d-solutions used before gave a better experience than 3d-vision itself. No wonder i recommend iz3d for all those who are interested to try things in 3d. There's just too much that have to fit if someone wants to try nvidiastereo. Especially when it comes to newer drivers....

Why wasn't 3d advertized before during the "old school" stereo-3d days? Should get many hooked on 3d for sure. Myself i found it by mistake since a link from e-dimensionals site pointed me to nvidias stereodrivers.

I'm pretty sure that nvidia wouldn't had developed 3d-vision if it wasn't for zalman who needed drivers for their monitor. Microsoft obviously pays for only vista and future support since backward compability lacks and therefore the result is one of the least compatible systems out there... Strange way to reward all us former 3d-guineapigs out there. So no wonder my heart is at iz3d for providing me and several others with what we need. Their heart is at the right spot too.

Cheers!

I will try the IZ3D drivers however I've only seen support for page flipping on my iGlasses. I've not read anything about support for interlacing.
I did call io-display systems to ask them what I should do since they still sell the iGlasses. They didn't have any good suggestions. The individual said 'Nvidia basically killed off the entire industry in favor of their 3D Vision product'. I asked who is buying iGlasses and was told universities and research/development companies.
Nvidia was such a small company when they first started supporting 3D stereo. They've grown so much over the years to the point where it shouldn't be as big of a headache to support.
More than likely old drivers can be hacked to support it on current hardware but the source code is just not available.

Don't forget about how iz3D go above and beyond for making games work well in Stereo 3D!

This is literally the case, nVidia thought that a 2-year gap would hide this but you should all realise that nVidia planned the 3D Vision glasses a long time ago.

To be fair though, since I bought this stuff nVs drivers have been significantly improved.

I've tried the latest V1.10RC1 version of iZ3D drivers and was able to make them work with my i-glasses PC/SVGA... the funny thing is that they worked in S3D only in Shutter mode, but still they do work well and should probably have no problems working on the 3D Pro version with the same settings. I did write a "short" guide here:

Well most likely the Version V1.10RC1 of iZ3D can make my Iglasses work, but the current driver doesnt seem to.
Where can i find it ?
Or is there any other Option for Stereo 3 d with a Iglasses VGA HMD?
I have various Nvidia Cards but there is no Stereo driver with the same Version Number of the Stereo Driver for Windows Xp.
I have a 7600 Geforce and a Geforce 210 but Stero Drivers available for Win Xp?!!!
