How 3D ready am I based on my Video Cards (9800 gtx+ SSC SLi)
Was just looking for some input on how well my cards in SLi fashion will run with 3d vision.
My full setup is as follows:
Viewsonic 22inch (original 3d vision bundle monitor) 1680x1050 @ 120hz
2 geforce 9800 GTX+ SSC editions SLi'd
AMD 955 BE 3.2 ghz quadcore
4 gigs of ddr3-1600 @ 7-7-6-18
If anyone has a single or SLi'd 9800 setup with 3d vision please provide as much info as possible on how well it works with games. I currently run most games Full-High/Ultra High. How well will it work and how bad will it effect frame rates? How much will I need to turn my graphics down?
PS I'm waiting for the 480's of course before I upgrade. So please, no upgrade comments as its already been addressed.

Dude, I think the best thing you can do is to look at the framerate you get now - use Fraps or something like it. For 3D, it will become less than half that. That's what you can expect, and only you know what you consider to be a decent and playable framerate. This can be 25 fps for some, and needs to be 60+ for others.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Based on a couple of benchmarks that I've run before I only tend to lose about 10fps when switching to 3D.
Anyways, I'm running the 8800GT in SLI can I can get very high settings on/max out MOST games without any real framerate issues, so you should have no problems.

You're obviously right about it being a factor of whats best for me. I also understand the semi-frustration in your post, but I am requesting this answer from people who have 9800's for comparison. If its not worth the $200 why would I bother? Thats what I'm trying to find out.

Sorry if I offended you, merely pointing out that others may be very happy with their framerate and settings, and you might not be with exactly the same. I've got two 8800GTX's in SLi, and they work fine for me, I still get decent framerates in my games at super high settings - even at 1920x1080. I wasn't expecting that.
Also, if you have two 9800's in SLi, you're an enthousiast to say the least. In my humble personal experience, the 3D is stunning and well worth the $200. Perhaps you can buy the kit from a place where you can return it if you're not happy with it - at least then you get a change to try it out. You're two-thirds there anyway, you've got the GPU's and monitor ready for 3D action.

You're absolutly right, can you suggest any places that might offer such service? I have searched high and low here where I live (Western New York) I cannot find a single place that demo's them or even sells them. So in turn, I'm forced to select a place like Newegg or Tigerdirect. Which is usually where I purchase all of my high end computer needs.
Off topic, is your site 3dvision-blog.com? I'm on it very very often and its a wonderful site to say the least, borderline amazing. The info there is top notch and has been very very helpful!

I had 2 8800 ultras overclocked to 650/1100 I think, and while it was ok on a 1280x720 CRT at 120, it was most certainly unplayable on the LCD at 1680x1050. You do lose more than half of your framerate - usually around 60 percent. That guy that says he only loses 10 frames per second is either from the future, or just doesn't know how to use an on-screen FPS display. Pretty easy to eyeball anyway, but that's besides the point.
Most games 2-3 years old should be ok. Current games... it's a mixed bag. You really do want 60 fps minimum for the best 3d experience, and that gets expensive pretty quick with these high-res LCD screens. Maybe you should check out some 720p projectors?
Edit - I'm one of those guys that thinks 30 fps is unplayable, 40 fps is pissin me off, 50 fps is ok, and 60 fps is good. In 3d, that is. In 2d, 60 fps is pissin me off, and 100 fps is good. Play first person shooters enough, and you'll end up just like me someday. It's an ugly life.

Unable to run games at max settings. I'm waiting to go Fermi before I would upgrade to anything else. /sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' />
