I mean, there will be driver support again...
It's a new 3d driver at last.

I think from a marketing standpoint Nvidea fell away from 3d stereo because everyone is going LCD which of course do not support shutters because of the low refresh rate . But now Viewsonic has their VX2265 with 120 refresh rate. Maybe this is what Nvidea was waiting for a manufacture to make a decent lcd that will support shutters . All I know that if the price is reasonable for a 22" monitor that supports 3d Shutters ,im buying one. I just hope NV makes the drivers XP and Vista compatible.

Well I for one welcome the new Nvidia glasses! They look cool and are rechargeable and thats all well and good. BUT....and heres a big BUT, I hope and pray and plead that Nvidia make these shutterglasses compatible with not only upcoming 120HZ LCD displays, but any display that works with Shutters, such as my Benq mp720 DLP projector. I paid a lot of money for my current setup and now its RENDERED USELESS because you want to sell Zalman monitors!!

I bought a 8800GTX when it first came out (700$ at the time) and found out stereo3D wasnt supported for me any more. That hurt. So I wait and wait and wait for these drivers and now they finally come but work for ZALMAN MONITORS ONLY! Thats bullcrap Nvidia! I will NOT BUY A ZALMAN MONITOR! I have a 120" projected screen that works AMAZING in 3D with Shutters and your old driver and Im not downgrading to a 22" screen!

PLEASE PLEASE make your shutters work with existing stereo setups like SO MANY of us have!! PLEASE NVIDIA dont abandon your longtime followers! I look forward to your awesome shutter glasses and and praying they work with my current setup! IF THEY DO IM BUYING 4 PAIRS! and a GTX280!!!!! DO YOU HEAR! /geek.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geek:' />

You talk as if thy hadn’t fully abandoned us, which they have.

They literally kulled the original community and rebooted their 3D support now with extreme control over who can use it with what hardware and more importantly they can demand MONEYS for it from stooges like Zalman.

Sure they expected us to put up a fight. And we did, but also as the expected we just gave up and went on with our lives now ~2 years after the 8800 GTX launch.

Now, Right on cue, we have the new generation enthusiastically falling in line with Nvidias, “new” 3D support.

They got us. And it’s a lesson well learned.

If there was a product even as good as my s-3D solution (Z800 HMD) then I would have just moved on. After all, who has time to fight the power. But the problem is that nothing new compares in any way to the s-3D solutions of the kulled generation. Specifically projectors and HMDs.

I dont think we can say its killed yet!

What if Nvidias shutterglasses do work with common stereo solutions? What if the driver that should appear with the shutterglasses works for multi setups? There was a hidden menu someone found in their last driver that seemed to list support for different setups (planar, DLP 3D, shutters, Dual...). Maybe this Zalman contract will end and then the rest of us can use stereo3D like we used to.

I think they could sell tons of their shutters and video cards if they allow people to choose the display they wish to use (please listen Nvidia)! I DONT WANT A 22" monitor! TOO SMALL! Even a 60" doesnt compare. My projector is double that size.

What I hope will happen will be the release of a new driver and shutters from NVidia this holiday season, that are unlocked to work like the old drivers did. They can suggest which displays work best, and ideally the drivers will not be LOCKED so that one can try to use them on other displays. This really should happen, what about all the people that have current 3D DLP displays? HMDs? Dual Projectors? WE WONT BUY NVIDIA CARDS! That just seems kinda dumb no?

But Im not holding my breath anymore...I did that for the last 2 years waiting for an 8800GTX driver and STILL NOTHING I CAN USE! Thats me and a lot of others as well!

Dont jam out on your faithful followers Nvidia!

I know many like shutters, I am just not convinced that 120hz is enough, or that ghosting is entirely solved. I am very prone to headaches from 60hz monitors, and I can see the refresh happen in the corner of my eye.

As for Planar, yes please bring support.

If you are following the iZ3D news on MTBS3D.com there is a new driver v1.09 (labeled 1.08.00012 or 23), and it fully supports many video modes, and support is coming for shutters, in fact it can send the pictures now, but the sync signal is hard to do.

The best part is full shader support for games, now you can play games that don't let you disable full-screen effects and shaders, and you can enjoy the higher quality that shaders offer.

Just download it and give it a try :).

I agree with the negative comments, I am displeased with nVidia for dropping support. I personally bought a G92 card and had to re-sell it. Then I picked up a G80 card to try some leaked drivers that could supposedly work in 3D, while they did in fact appear to work, it was only in shutter mode, not Planar.

I think that nVidia is behind the times unless shader support is forthcoming. iZ3D can render shaders on any card, and nVidia drivers are slow in coming. (note that I don't mind a nominal fee, or bundling with certain cards the 3D functionality, but the free nature of the drivers doesn't excuse their poor quality and updates, especially if they tout it as a new technology.)

XP Support? Maybe, Maybe Not! iZ3D supports XP, I don't think nVidia is supporting XP right now. Vista only, for gaming? Got to be kidding me. Why can't I purchase a reasonable card to upgrade my system and have 3D.

nVidia killed my desire to play games. I got a taste of dual 1280x1024 Planar and it has ruined me for playing games. Then support dropped out and I haven't gamed much in over a year :(

In the past few years Nvidia has aggressively abused us. This may only be my hobby, but I am continually surprised by this silly little topic’s tendency to make me feel frustrated, helpless and bullied.

If support had been lost due to an unwillingness to put in additional work on Nvidia’s behalf for less popular solutions, I think I could live with that. But when all evidence leads to an intentional effort on Nvidia’s behalf to disable the preexisting support that I needed for some unspoken reason, What am I supposed to do with that?

You want me to buy Vista? Fine

You want me to buy Zalman’s stereoscopic head mounted display with headtracking? Fine.

Where do I go to buy that?

Where is Zalman’s HMD w/ headtracking?

God, im so tired of being an outsider of the outsiders. Those of you who enjoy monitor S-3D solutions are so lucky. You have so many options.

The truth is that FOR ME there has never been a better solution than the eMagin Z800. I cant go back to a monitor. I would love to Buy a new generation HMD but there is no such thing.

1. There is no new eMagin HMD coming out to pay for the rights to Nvidia’s “new” drivers.

2. Im sorry to anyone I may offend with this statement but the Vuzix VR920 HMD is just not in the same quality class as the Z800. The headtracking is also reported to be unusable for gaming.

3. The TD visor is of higher quality than the Z800 but without headtracking at all. However if Nvidia will at least support this when it comes out, maybe I can strap an expensive motion tracker to my head. That may work……

So what do I do?

I think I need a new hobby. Maybe ground golf, I don’t see how Nvidia can mess that up for me.

Frankly, built-in tracking on any consumer-level HMD will be pretty bad. The Z800 tracking drifts way too much to be of any real use, unless you like motion sickness.

At this point, the TDVisor will be the best choice for people wanting an HMD experience. You can probably use an inexpensive optical tracking solution like the TrackIR. This will be much more stable than any inertial-based tracking.

Let's hope NVidia comes back to its senses and give us back the support for field sequential and dual output devices (such as the TDVisor).

If headtacking is unpopular and so not included in future products so be it.

I apparently have an extreme tolerance for headtracking it seems.

Rather than fight an unwinable battle, I think I will consider myself lucky that I really did live out a geeks dream (and will continue to do so).

This apparent lack of sensitivity on my part along with use of the recenter button (that is no harder to push than a reload button) and 4 wiimotes have given me that dream that will likely not be realized by most for many more years.

I have walked on Mars with my own two wiimoted feet

I have turned around corners, searched my surroundings and run for cover effectively all with my Z800 headtracking.

I have ducked for cover and peaked around corners naturally with a wiimote on my chest.

I have lived the geek dream and I am so thankful to the Z800 for that.

But anyway, I will just buy a headtracker to add to the TD visor when it comes out IF there are drivers for it.
