Request OFFICIAL Nvidia Statement Request Nvidia's Stereo Support Plans
Everyone,

It seems to me that we all spend considerable energy and time to somehow try to DISCOVER the plans Nvidia has for stereoscopic support.

Would it not be MUCH MORE efficient if Nvidia just told us what the plans were? What releases to expect, if and when?

Most of us have made investments in both Nvidia hardware and display devices with the promise that Nividia would support our stereoscopic efforts.

This community (I believe) represents many of the leading edge developers/users, and should be taken seriously.. We are the ones that will live with the "technopain" to try to gain a future vision.. Nvidia don't disregard this resource! It is rare and precious!

Can Nvidia please given us something concrete to determine if our investments, efforts, and waiting are worthwhile.. Or if we should look for other solutions?

Personnally, I would be willing to pay extra for driver support if Nvidia was interested to provide them.

If Nvidia is NOT interested, then Nvidia PLEASE create a stereoscopic SDK of some sort (maybe Open Source) that would allow those interested to continue development.

The chance for mainstream stereoscopic is there, if only the driver support was serious!

Imagine if Nvidia OFFICIALLY offered a stereoscopic solution! One with a card + shutter or OLED glasses... That would entice nearly EVERY gamer on the planet, and could create a revolution in the desktop experience. I would for clunk down my money!

Please, everyone give your thoughts and ideas. Maybe I am just a crazy dreamer...

Respectfully submitted,

Well Mr. President, you must be new here! Nvidia doesn't talk to us about 3d stereo. We, the 3D stereo community have these boards to muse about what it going to happen, and discuss how to solve the problems that arise ourselves. nvidia isn't going to post something because we demand it. They are the only stereo driver, it's free, and who the hell are we to complain?

Well.. I am not exactly new here.. Just quite mostly..

I purchased a eMagin OLED about 1.5 years ago.. Put down money for a home machine with a NVidia video card.. Bought a laptop with a Nvidia GO adapter (expecting it would one day work)..

I really believe Nvidia should capitalize on being the "Only game in town"..

Dang.. Why can't they give us a sign? Is that really too much to ask?

At least have some driver guys moderate the group... Maybe throw us a bone now and then..

I have some really neat apps we would like to produce.. But we can't count on the platform.. That hurts... Once you have seen 3D, nothing else seems to be enough!

Chopper seems to have some kind of inside connection... Shouldn't they be just a little more forthcoming?

I sort of imagine Chopper meeting figures dressed in black, in a back alley somewhere, and receiving a CD <grin>.

Oh well.. If the group is happy to play this game, then so be it. But we are ALL losing.. Nvidia included..

Nividia advertised 3D Stereo (and they still do), and we all paid for it.. It was key for me to decide to go all NVidia.. and still I don't really have it..

Just doesn't seem fair somehow..

Chris Aiken

StereoDriver NOT need any special "calls" from 3Dapplication to work. For compatible with it, developers must read simple but impotent instructions (see http://developer.nvidia.com/)
If you want to write your OWN Stereo-driver, using already-work nVidia stereo-driver ( /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> , you must crasy - NoBody give you source) - see 4example, http://www.edimensional.com/support/ for ANOTHER stereo-driver.

Must workable - is to use Stereo-functions in OpenGL, that fully support only in professionals card (nVidia Quadro / ATi FireGL)

hmm... have you remeber, thats several years ago ASUS sell the DELUX-version of GeForce cards with simple sutter-glasses? Today they don't.
It's interesting to buy ALREADY full stereo-scopic supportible PC. But I haven't see IT near me; like NOT see any stereo-scopic hardwere (VHD, sh.-glasses, StereoMonitors) near me, in my city! What about we can talk, if totally selling stereo-hardware SO SMALL part of total PC-selling?????????

If Microsoft says in Vista (DirectX10): Stereo-support MUST be - it give a BIG step. But today, nobody else, than stereo-hardware sellers and users interesting in it...

I agree it would be nice to get a bit more info from nVidia regarding stereo 3D - all we get at the moment are a few lines of release notes once or twice a year if we're lucky. It staggers me that they don't do more to promote 3D when it's the one feature that really distinguishes their products from ATI's. Any nVidia user can have what basically amounts to a functional holodeck in their house, yet 99% of them aren't even aware stereo 3D exists. IMO you'll know when nVidia start taking 3D seriously when (or if) they ever incorporate the features of the 3D drivers in the standard graphics drivers. Until then, it seems that we'll be stuck with a lag of 6-12 months for the stereo ones, and a continued lack of fixes for long standing bugs.
Cheers,

DD,

If I were not spastic with the mouse, the first reply would have been something other than a qoute from you.. So please forgive.

You hit the "nail on the head"! Nvidia could really distinguish themselves against ATI if they would leverage the stereo support.. They can't really play the frame rate game forever! SLI is nice, but soon it will be a muted point. The displays can't keep up!

Once you have experience stereoscopic, it's like high bandwidth... It's addictive and necessary..

With a few improvements to the 3D glasses and I could start to imagine abandoning my traditional flat panel.

Mainstreaming the 3D support (i can't imagine) could really be that hard. It would just be a matter of discipline and will. One that you very well proven very profitable...

We can hope!
