Those symptoms mean that your glasses are slowly desyncing from the projector's frames - this is a worst case scenario for any projector setup. If it indeed does support proper 120Hz input, then you might try custom resolution refresh rates in an effort to sync the screen with your glasses. If you get the desyncing to stop, then a ghosting removal circuit can be used to get perfect 3D - but that's a big if.
If your glasses are getting 3D every 30 seconds then the projector is working at +/- 0.03 Hz compared to your glasses.
I don't have the projector, nor is it within my price range - I regret that I cannot help much I'm afraid.

I can categorically show working proof that it is the logic board with firmware which affects the instant shut-off, not the PSU board. I have had so many problems and lies with their joke of a product that I shall not be looking to them for future purchases, unless they offer something spectacular.
I replaced all the caps but the PSU board still does not work to strike the lamp - the ballast seems to work OK however. I have ordered spare boards from the states... let's see if they help. It'll be a long wait over Christmas without 3D gaming or movie entertainment. Even my little one loves watching her nursery rhymes on the projector, and gets mad at me when I change content - she does not care for her tablet or our phones when the big screen is active :)

Should pixel shifting be active in 3D, because I have black borders and the image size is reduced a bit in 3D?

If I activate IR 3D Mode first on the PJ and then activate the 3d vision glasses I get 3D with much ghosting.
I changed multiple settings but nothing helped, then suddenly the PJ lost HDMI Signal and got it back immediately and the ghosting was nearly gone(was totaly playable).
But I can't reproduce this signal loss again. The resync button and changing source doesn't help.
If i create a custom resolution for 120Hz and set it as desktop resolution is this used in the 3D Testing Tool?

That actually sounds promising. When in 3D mode, have you tried disconnecting the signal cable and reconnecting it again?
That might simulate the desync and resync...
My Optoma UHD 40 behaves pretty the same with 3D Vision glasses - weird colors but sometimes 3D sync is nearly perfect. With my DLP glasses everything works perfectly. If you can't get your DLP glasses to work with your projector 3D is pretty useless.

I don't know about the rainbow effect differences but the reviews on Amazon look really good and it is going for 649, may be cheaper elsewhere. The contrast specs are double and it is a bit brighter too, according to their website specs. It is still RGBCYW but they either disguised it as a "6 segment RYGCWB" or there is some technical significance to the order change, which seems like it could be the case. They certainly did some work on the color since this one has HDR, unlikely to be just software changes. I would probably get the UHD50 if I had the money but I don't right now and it is double the cost at a minimum new. The HD27HDR is brighter and has lower latency. I may purchase it and wait for native 4k to go down in price and improve. I would like to know what the latency of the UHD50 is in 3D for 1080P and 4k.

The reason why nobody complains about RBE while gaming is that nearly nobody is gaming on a projector. The main reason why people buy projectors is for movies / home cinema and not for gaming. I would assume that 90% of all people only connect their bluray player / amazon firestick... to it but not their PC. Maybe there are a few people who connect their PS4. But very unlikely their PC and even more unlikely for 3D gaming. Only our community does the latter but we are really the minority :D.

Yes, I am constantly reminded of how the world has moved on from 3D right now and it frustrates me a lot. I just want to sit the world down and say, "No! You don't get it, you have no idea what you are missing! Look, THIS is real 3D gaming." The people who have tried it but had a mediocre experience b/c of Nvidia not supporting it properly or explaining depth and convergence etc,are the most frustrating because they were so close. If someone gets to play a good setup and were to say "It's not for me" or they have difficulty with the visual adaptation, fine that's ok but mostly I feel like the world has missed the boat.
Surely you are correct about gaming having more RBE, I have not had the pleasure yet of big screen 3D. I have a small room and want 100" or so, so unfortunately I now think I will have to wait to save up for the UHD50 or another shorter throw projector. Pretty concerned about the RBE though after reading those reviews. Just got the Samsung Odyssey+ HMD for now. I know I will crave the detail of 3D Vision though.

The color wheel speed is not usually constant for my knoledge. Even the rgbrgb wheel that Are advertised 6x Are usually 6x speed only in 24hz for movie playback. Im not 100% about this but thats what i have understood. So i would assume in 120hz is Something horrendeus.

Over Christmas I had another go at getting frame sequential 3d working on my TK800 at 1920x1080x120Hz.

Anyway, to cut a long story short I had some really interesting results this time round. I managed to get to a point where 3d was working but had a strange sync/timing issue. Over a repeating 20-30 second period, you'd see the blue part of the image start to separate on it's own, then other colours until you ended up with a blurry mess of 100% crosstalk, then it would pop back in sync and show 3d again.
I did take some videos but I'm not sure they show the effect clearly enough.
So it was unusable, but felt like a step forward. I'll do some more experimentation soon.
What's interesting is that when I tried Paul's UHD40 EDID and generic CRT, the results were terrible, complete mess of crosstalk. I tried 3 different ID's in CRU for the 3d vision device, each one had the same result, apart from the 720P DLP projector ID I tried which didn't work at all (no glasses activation) or just gave me the red text warning about 3d modes.

I got it working!!! Well, 95% perfect.

My main next step is to finetune the glasses to get rid of the crosstalk and maximise colours. I think this is possible but I've had enough for one evening.

It will have to be tested with the UFO frame skipping checker, but Should be good even if not perfect I'd think!
Are there any prices listed yet? Any price over 800€ / 800$ wouldn't be worth buying as UHD 40/50 costs 1200€ / 1200$. 400 bucks more are definitely worth the upgrade for RGBRGB wheel and UHD. But let's see how HD 27 HDR projector actually performs.

** Edit, looking at Amazon reviews, people seem to be happier with the HD27HDR, I only found one person complaining about RBE while gaming, which is concerning, but the UHD50 had a lot of complaints, even people who bought the RGBRGB version thinking that would have less. ProjectorCentral had a really good review of it and I have heard that certain settings really eed to be changed for good picture quality with it.
Aren't there any other short or shortish throw projectors that do 120hz 3D @1080p? I read this whole threas a few days ago and dont recall there being any others, short or not.
Most comments on amazon.com are referring to HD27 and not the HDR version but I'm surprised so few people are complaining about the rainbow color artifacts. For movies I saw the RBE every 1-2 minutes for a very short moment. It was somehow disturbing but if not actively paying attention to it it would have been still ok. But for gaming there really was a lot of RBE. Worst scenario was Outlast and Dead Space 2 with very high contrast scenes. My girl friend couldn't see the RBE for 2D gaming (although I could see) but even she could see the RBE very clearly while 3D gaming - she agreed: Send that thing back to Amazon! The reason why nobody complains about RBE while gaming is that nearly nobody is gaming on a projector. The main reason why people buy projectors is for movies / home cinema and not for gaming. I would assume that 90% of all people only connect their bluray player / amazon firestick... to it but not their PC. Maybe there are a few people who connect their PS4. But very unlikely their PC and even more unlikely for 3D gaming. Only our community does the latter but we are really the minority :D.

Surely you are correct about gaming having more RBE, I have not had the pleasure yet of big screen 3D. I have a small room and want 100" or so, so unfortunately I now think I will have to wait to save up for the UHD50 or another shorter throw projector. Pretty concerned about the RBE though after reading those reviews. Just got the Samsung Odyssey+ HMD for now. I know I will crave the detail of 3D Vision though.

CRU made the process really easy, I recommend it.
Anyway, to cut a long story short I had some really interesting results this time round. I managed to get to a point where 3d was working but had a strange sync/timing issue. Over a repeating 20-30 second period, you'd see the blue part of the image start to separate on it's own, then other colours until you ended up with a blurry mess of 100% crosstalk, then it would pop back in sync and show 3d again.
I did take some videos but I'm not sure they show the effect clearly enough.
So it was unusable, but felt like a step forward. I'll do some more experimentation soon.
What's interesting is that when I tried Paul's UHD40 EDID and generic CRT, the results were terrible, complete mess of crosstalk. I tried 3 different ID's in CRU for the 3d vision device, each one had the same result, apart from the 720P DLP projector ID I tried which didn't work at all (no glasses activation) or just gave me the red text warning about 3d modes.

As mentioned above, the slow desync above - the symptoms mean that your glasses are slowly desyncing from the projector's frames - this is a worst case scenario for any projector setup. If it indeed does support proper 120Hz input, then you might try custom resolution refresh rates in an effort to sync the screen with your glasses. If you get the desyncing to stop, then a ghosting removal circuit can be used to get perfect 3D - but that's a big if. A workable solution would manifest itself in crosstalk of any degree, but absolutely stable - as opposed to becoming in and out of phase.
e.g. If your glasses are getting 3D every 30 seconds then the projector is working at +/- 0.03 Hz compared to your glasses.
With the UHD40 EDID, although it was a mess, were you able to get solid crosstalk?
FWIW, I have wrote to Optoma to see if their UHD51 can be got to work with 120Hz frame sequential. If it works, you might be enticed to sell your current projector in favour of a UHD51 for a similar price from the ol' eBay etc.

I hadn't noticed the previous comment about desyncing. I remember reading it but must have skimmed through and forgotten..
Using the UHD40 EDID yes, the crosstalk was solid - *edit* actually I'd have to check again. I managed to find the charge cable for my other (adjustable) glasses so I think next time I try I'll using the UHD40 EDID and play with timing.
There are still other variables so it might be a dead end but I'm not willing to give up yet :-)

Spent the last few hours playing around and here are my observations:
1. Projector always reports 120Hz via the OSD, even if Windows is set to 119Hz. I spent ages playing around with detailed resolutions and timings and no matter what I tried, I always always had the desync issue.
2. Trying different IDs (of 3d vision supported displays) in CRU does seem to make a difference, but I'm not sure to what extent. Using a non lightboost ID did result in a darker image, but the projector is not a lightbost device anyway, so it affected the timing in some way, even if it was just the glasses timing.
3. Using Generic CRT from Paul's UHD40 EDID, the crosstalk is 100% static and there is no slow desync issue.
4. Using CRT mode along with the Xpand glasses, 3d vision works! But, I need to find exactly the right timings as there is still some small crosstalk, specifically and only with the colour blue.
My main next step is to finetune the glasses to get rid of the crosstalk and maximise colours. I think this is possible but I've had enough for one evening.
