Some advice on my setup
Right now i have 3x Asus Vg278HE monitors in 3D surround at 5760x1080p. Its powered by an i7 3820 and 3 670 SC 4GB cards. I love the 3 screen in 3d, really adds to the immersion but honestly it kind of beats the crap out of my cards trying to push 3D. which has made me think twice about my setup. 90% of the time my cards with new games are pinned at 99% load and my room turns into a heatbox. Its okay now but im afraid with future games coming out (metro, bf4, tomb raider, crysis 3) its going to be hard to keep up. Some examples of some recent games that are maxing my hardware in 3d are borderlands 40-45fps, far cry 3 40 fps, hitman 40-45fps, sleeping dogs 40-50fps. Even in 2D bf3 averages 60fps. most wanted gets about 40-45fps which is far from my 144hz my monitor can handle. So it got me thinking if its really worth beating the crap out my my cards and loosing smooth game play because of frames to keep my side monitors. Im all for spending cash on a hobby but i might end up sinking to much cash in trying to be happy..lol..even more than i already did. At first i was going to just sell all three monitors and grab one high res monitor maybe 2560 x 1440, but then i loose 3d and i dont know how i feel about that. Even though with dx11 coming out i feel like 3d might be taking a turn for the worst, but i have hope deep down it will last. All i know is it will be alot less harder to run compared to 5760x1080 and will be crisper. Then i thought maybe i will just sell the two side monitors and keep one 3D monitor in the middle and be happy. Maybe with the cash buy myself a highres monitor to in 2D with. But then i came across a thread where someone mentioned a 3D projector...which got me thinking. I dont know if im 100% sold on the idea since im not to fond of 720p. But it does sound nice to have one big screen in 3D, plus with all my power in my rig i could max it out easily and crank up AA to spruce the image up. The only down fall i see is that i read they dont make good computer monitors since the text is messed up. Plus im assuming there not that great in the day time. So pretty much im wondering what you guys think i should do? anyone own a high res monitor? anyone own a projector or gamed on one? any input and advice would be great. If you havent noticed im kind of all over the place on what i should do. Thanks.

With things like this I would go to some place like AMAZON and buy it just because I could return it. If I liked it I would keep it but its nice to know "for any reason" you could return it. I dont have 3 3D monitors but I was wanting to try the 2560x1440. So I bought one for $700 no way buying the korean ones. For some thats great but I really love the 3 years warranty. Was it nice? Yeah was awesome. Games had so much color and was huge. But its not 3D. All I did was keep my little 22 120 and buy a LG 32 passive. For ME has all the colors and I just used a Acer EDID inf file so 3d Vision works.. still passive but hey I am very happy. Why? I would have to pay MORE for a TN 27" 3D. And even with this 32 LG its night and day. But hey just make sure if you do want to try a projector make sure you can return it. You might love it.

I use my 720p projector for 3D gaming, browsing, movies, internet, etc. Text looks perfectly fine. I use my asus if I "have" to play a game in 2D but thats it. 720P is very underrated for 3D (projectors) but is definitely my first choice hands down. For people like us with computers like tanks and use of AA/injectors/3d. Id honestly be surprised if you ever saw a "jaggie" in game. Regardless, I dont think surround for 3D gaming is really a great idea. Games are feeling less and less optimized. If a game becomes popular enough then they patch it and increase performance. I thought about it at one point but games that support 3d AND surround are few and far between. Then the amount of upgrading necessary is a bit overkill. Id sell the two and split the difference and buy that 2D monitor you want. 3D will be always my preferred gaming method, I am sure its same for you but the 2D monitor will give you incentive to play games you wont be able to play in 3D IMO. If you decide to ditch surround, plan it out like a month from now and go play every 3D surround game that is available so you dont have regrets.(I have no clue which ones are, I know that you can Play all UE3 games in surround. There are a ton on helixmod site. Dragon age origins) Regrets are always the worst.

Thanks for the responses guys. Eqzitara, how does the 3D on your projector compare to the 3D on your monitor?. I noticed in your sig you have the same monitor as me. I was looking at either the optoma hd66 or acer h5360. Acer one is cheaper but im not a big fan of them i originally bought 3 acer monitors for surround and had 2 of them crap out on me within the first 6 months. So im leaning more towards the optoma. You said you plan 2D games on your monitor, is that because the quality is alot better in 2D? If the projecter is good i was debating on selling all 3 of the monitors, can probably get $350-400 each, since there only 3-4 months old. Buying the projecter and maybe something more highres in the future for 2D. Also a few questions about the hd66 if you dont mind. 1.You can hook a cable box into it right, to watch normal tv? 2.whats the resolution/refresh rate for gaming in 2d? i know its 120hz for 3d at 720, but not 100% sure about 2D. 3.Hows the brightness on it, is it okay in the daytime when its not completely 100% dark? Thanks.

Go ahead and buy acer its identical. Its better on monitor in 2D but tbh I am not sure I find more enjoyment on it on monitor due to loss of size. I think I would of been much happier with a 1080p projector tbh. 1. No idea. I use binaries and binaries are pretty much all 720P. I dont even use cable. 2. Its amazing for 3D. High FOV, No ghosting, etc..... Dont buy it for 2D. 120HZ @ 720p. 3. I really recommend a projector screen especially if not optimal conditions. Room needs to be dark regardless, I cant really say if your room is "optimal". I use a Da Lite High Power. This is not a lie or over exageration. My 70" Projected image is brighter then the asus(Im in a pitch black room). I can turn on a lamp and have no issue. I really think judgeing from your current situation even IF you buy a projector you probably want something else for 2D. Id sell those two monitors (after playing through every possible surround game available). Buy that 2D monitor and see how much you miss high FOV 3D gaming. Then decide if its worth looking into a projector. Its a lot of work to get set up. 3D 720p projector is a "luxury" purchase, you need something else for 2D stuff. If you want to use a projector for 2D/3D you need to check out a 1080p 3D tv play (optoma hd33). I cant vouch for that kind of setup since I havent tried it. If my 720p projector ever goes I will probably do research into the optoma hd33. Youtube is a good place too look at peoples projector set ups. Like so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAv7c-alHBQ His setup in 2D is probably a similiar to my setup in 3D as far as brightness. If you are really interested in a projector you really need to check out a forum like avsforum and make sure you got a room good for it.
