Project: 3Infinite
  1 / 6
As many are aware, Helix is in the process, and seemingly final stages, of fixing Bioshock Infinite's 3D. Many of the community are gnashing at the bit to hand over their heard earned stockpiles of cash in donations, but Helix is unwilling to accept based on philosophical and pragmatic arguments. What can you do? Project: 3Infinte Concept: To change the perceptions of one of the most known, highly respected and influential games directors of our time with regards to 3D and its importance to the future gaming landscape and to ensure maximum media coverage of any such event. Rationale: Ken Levine spent multiple years promoting and having his creation, Bioshock Infinite, turned down by publishers due to its scope, size and inherent costs. Despite multiple rejections, he did not back down. Like any great movie director, he needed his art to hit the screen with as little removed from the original concept as possible. To show Ken Columbia in the 3rd dimension could be a tipping point in his consideration of the importance of 3D. It could very well ensure his next game is built with 3D from the ground up. Such a prolific and high profile games director making such a stance could send ripples through the gaming world. Small ripples can cause the biggest of waves. Objectives: - Get K.

Project: 3Infinte

Concept: To change the perceptions of one of the most known, highly respected and influential games directors of our time with regards to 3D and its importance to the future gaming landscape and to ensure maximum media coverage of any such event.

Objectives:

- Get K. Levine to play Bioshock Infinite in 3D and raise awareness of 3D.
- Get this action into blogs, review sites, tech sites and potentially even mainstream media.

Methods/Ideas of Attack:

Bob3d:
Sending 3D device for Iphone to IG offices and 3D video, images of BS:I.
Eqzitara:
Oculus Rift Demo creation (from helix mod)
Foreverseeking:
Writing to blogs, review sites (IGN, Gamespot) IG's forums to get noticed. Finally contact mainstream media.
Helifax
3D Surround video examples on personal website.
Schmeltzer:
Fundraiser campaign (e.g. kickstarter) for 3D monitor system for Ken Levine. (This would be quite a spectacle, the press would lap it up whether it was genuine or not.)

Rules:

- Anyone can join and help. This is a project from the community, for the community.

- Everything will be co-ordinated within a small time frame. Ideas are welcome here, but please wait before getting any blogs done or getting friends to write up about it.

- To stop this pinging up on Google if too many people respond, from now on terms below should be written as:

Bioshock Infinite = BI
Ken Levine = KL
Irrational Games = IG

- Most important: This campaign needs to feature the warm fuzzy feel good factor of a very friendly and helpful community, wrapped up in the sensationalist novelty of being highly active proponents of the tech. No aggressive/provocative actions :-)

I always try to take a warm and supportive stance. Trying AT ALL TIMES to explain the benefit of rendering in 3D [1] or providing plenty of graphics options [2]. 1 - I could tell by looking at screenshots of Shogun 2: Fall of the Samuri (in a magazine!) that the expolosions were 2D. Compare those to the explosions of World in Conflict, GTA4, JC2, Wargame:EE, even the nukes in Civ5! In all of these games, people get a kick from blowing stuff up! No-one to my knowledge has celebrated the explosions of Shogun 2; people seem to enjoy the carnage but not the graphics. I am convinced visuals rendered in 3D look the better for it. 2 - Only a scumbag would argue about reducing the amount of graphical options as it benefits EVERYONE especially when you consider nearly every game comes with it's Low - Very High options as well as 'Custom'. All the best. Don't forget to ask the guys at MTBS3D. They would probably be keen to help...
Fundraiser campaign (e.g. kickstarter) for 3D monitor
Utter nonsense. You expect you can just send a monitor to some guy and he'll suddenly like 3D? Rubbish. ...It should be a projector! Plus a high gain screen. Max immersion and brightness. I'd be happy to help on forums. I'm rather proud of the lobbying we did on the IG forums for 3D despite it not being successful. With the HeliX fix now in existence and an Indiegogo refund coming in a few days, I think I'll actually buy and play the game soon!

I think all we can do is to contact KL or IG WITH the fix/pics/videos and hope he watches/tries them. Someone like him should not have problem finding a compatible hardware. Tridef is also an option, infinite works great with it, dare to say even better than helix's WIP fix.
You expect you can just send a monitor to some guy and he'll suddenly like 3D? Rubbish.
Nope, he might even hate it. However, my personal view is that KL should see his own creation in crisp 3D. I'm pretty sure they'll have decent pc's over there. 3d monitors I'm not so sure of. Even if they DO, that's really not that important either. It's the fact that you send a "relatively" pricy gift, together with a cd/dvd/usb-stick with Helix's Mod, a Rift Video, instructions etc and a friendly written letter that could make a difference. If IG or KL would mention it somewhere (twitter, blogpost or whatever) it's mission accomplished as far as I am concerned. These people problably receive all kinds of stuff from companies like Sony or AMD, but don't think from people like us. Btw: you live in the States, right? If I arrange for the money, could you aquire a monitor and ship it? And if all fails, well, thats about 600 dollars thrown away, but if I look at my Steam backlog, thanks to all those Steamsales, I see a whole lot more wasted money :-)

Guys, read Airion's comment again. It is quite clearly a tongue in cheek joke ;-) Sammy, the core idea is not to send a monitor to KL, but to raise awareness. It is a spectacle, a showcase, nothing more. It is but one part of the attack, but should help raise media awareness when combined with other website buzz. If the fundraiser was to actually succeed, it would just be the icing but not the cake. That's my thoughts anyway, though Schmeltzer seems to feel otherwise on his idea... either way, we are all on the same page with the desired outcome. And yes Airion, any help on the forums would be mucho appreciated, thank you! Any one interested to help, get those awesome 3D pictures ready to deploy and also any punchy short 3D videos ready (when helix states he is happy with the fix). There is still story driven DLC to come out for this game, it is still highly relevant and this campaign idea could cause quite a stir if executed correctly. I'm even going to see if I can get the forum mods of IG to help me when the time comes (the same ones we battled with months earlier). I think it would be a beautiful irony if they helped us. After all, it will also help promote BI which is good for them as well as us.

weird, got it going again, cheers! Just noted something Bob3d said in the original thread, but want to address it here. The fact that a great monitor is only one part of the PC, and that the PC needs to be configured to run Nvidia 3D and that there are points of failure (e.g. incorrect depth, convergence settings etc.) That is why he advised that a 3D oculus rift video such as eqzitara's idea would be a better target, as its full proof. I tend to agree. However, I still think a fundraiser page would be a great spectacle that would generate positive media interest, even if the goal was never reached.
Guys, read Airion's comment again. It is quite clearly a tongue in cheek joke ;-)
Indeed, and in truth I think a monitor is a better idea just because it's easier to set up, more fool proof. But I think sammy123 and Schmeltzer have some realistic pessimism that I share: he might not even like it. There's no accounting for personal taste. I think this whole thing is a long shot, even getting the press to notice and write something up seems unlikely. But hey let's try it. If we try 10 things and 1 is successful, that's great. The original 3D support thread on IG forums was a long shot too, and it wasn't successful, but as I said I'm proud of the effort. I think that thread is relevant background in regard to this potential campaign as well. It's proof that interested in BI 3D didn't suddenly come out of nowhere. On an off topic note, I've been somewhat surprised how my tongue in cheek jokes have been mistaken for real both today and yesterday. That's my fault of course, I should know how limited text is. The topic of Americans' limited knowledge of the world was an interesting one though, and I think it's true. For example, so many Americans mix up Australia and Austria. I don't know why, it should be simple. The UK is a European country, and people from the UK and Australians have the exact same accent! But people just can't put 2 and 2 together.

I don't know why, it should be simple. The UK is a European country, and people from the UK and Australians have the exact same accent! But people just can't put 2 and 2 together.
