So when can we expect to see Nvidia Surround?

Listen, all I need to hear from a nvidia rep is this. Will our GTX 480 SLi setups fully utilize both gpus for gaming with nvsurround ? I could care less about 3D. Im not gonna sit here behind an LCD and argue with someone talking non-sense.

You will deffo need 2 cards to run surround in 3DS, All that processing would be a huge burden on one card, believe me.

The answer given by ManuelG is as close as we're gonna come for now - NDAs and all.

I'm just as anxious as anyone else, though it's just not as apparent. I'd love a multi-screen 3D environment, but current circumstances restrict me to single screen in any event.

To be honest, it's more that than anything else that's keeping me from biting my own tongue off waiting for Christmas Day in the summer...

i switched from a ati 5870 to two 470 only for 3d vision surround.

it was announced to be released together with the fermi cards, its written on ... etc. etc. you know it....

so someone that is somehow close to nv that tells us maybe in 2 weeks it might be release date is just not enough.

someone that isnt effectet at all like u should at least respect people that payed hard money for the feature. just telling everybody to chill is not enough - the cards are too expansive to let ppl down without any info. so bring facts or stay away please.

And its not gonna kill you to wait a week or few...

Do you want them to rush out broken drivers where you end up coming back to complain about them or do you want quality drivers?

From the pressure I'm seeing from "populist," I could the former happening.

The Mods of this forum already gave you the answer they are allowed to give and based on information they have, but you people are not accepting it.

Reverse your role with a mod. If you were the mod running a forums paid by Nvidia and under tons of NDA agreements, which if you break can get punished for, would you go ahead and tell people what they want to hear when you dont even have a full answer or cant?

It's not that I'm siding with Nvidia, its the harsh reality of the situation.

As for the fanboi remark, I use Tom's Hardware for GPU and CPU buyer guides when selecting parts for a computer for friends. I figure out their desired price point and I go with the best price/performance pick for the price range. And if you haven't noticed, Intel and Nvidia are not the pick of choice in almost all price ranges at the moment. I've recommened Rad 48xx series to friends and equip in a recent computer with a Rad 5750.
My computer just happened to be an Nvidia computer because at the time 8800GT was the best bang for the buck.

SLI is a prerequisite for Nvidia Surround because each card only supports up to 2xTMDS outputs. So it stands to reason SLI will be fully supported in games that already support SLI, as Nvidia Surround is just a single large frame buffer split up and output over the 2 card's display outputs.

As for the impatience in this thread.....every launch review stated 3D Vision Surround and the 256 series drivers were not ready yet. Nvidia had them scheduled for April, they were delayed. ManuelG posted an update stating they would be available in approximately 2 weeks, so maybe mid-May. If you can't wait that long or feel you were deceived, you should pursue refund imo.
not you again, i know as a fanboi seeing how the loved company fails must be hard .. but realy try to stay in reality.

nvidia showed 3d vision surround on several product presentations as a working feature. 470/480 gtx cards are sold with the 3d vision surround advertisement on it right now.

when u buy a mainboard with usb3 written on it and u build your system and discover usb3 isnt working at all - dont u think thats a rip off ? common get earnest .

nvidia has promised and fails on delivery - they cant even give the customers a official date the feature will be released... thats just a scam nothing less.
I also interpretted the info from Nvidia as saying the drivers for surround would be out about the same time the cards became generally available, the week of April 12th. As others have pointed out the boxes say "surround", the promo vidoes said it was coming out with the gtx 400's, the website indicated a schedule release of April.

So I have $2500 invested in video cards/monitors that just don't do anything special for the moment.

It's easy for someone with nothing invested in surround technology to say "be patient". And ultimately what other option do I have? It's going to be released when it's released, so I sort of have to be patient. I don't have to like that, and it does impact my view of Nvidia. One reason I don't buy ATI cards is back when XP was coming out I had a video card less than 6 months old and it took ATI over 6 months after the official release of XP to release BETA drivers for the functionality of my card.

Working in technical support myself I know when a tech rep says "I can't promise, but usually 2 weeks" it means "I can't promise, it might be 2 weeks." 2 weeks can turn into 2 months pretty easily. So I'm not going to plan any big 3d vision surround gaming until the drivers are actually on my computer. Until then it's just not available, whether I like it or not.

Unless, of course, you've sat down and can provide us with a more elegant solution? All compiled and ready for Plug 'n Play with WHQL certification for Win7?

A download link?

Show us what you got there, bub - I'm all ears...
So, if I can't do it myself I have no place to criticize a seriously lackluster effort? That's quite simply idiotic and one of the most fallacious things I have ever read. If you go to a restaurant and your steak tastes like crap, you aren't allowed to complain unless you can make a better steak? You can't complain about bad vehicle reliability unless you can build a better car? You cannot have a negative opinion about music unless you can play every instrument in the band? Pure silliness.

It isn't as if I am asking for the world. I want a power user mode so I can adjust sync timings and max depth (at the very least I want them to stop locking down the registry settings in ridiculous ways). I want profiles for games day and date with releases for AAA titles, or at least within the same week, or I want user created profiles as an option, I want opengl support as promised and I want more robust hardware that can eliminate the flashing that many of us have. Most of all though, It is someone's boneheaded decision to deny users control of their own hardware and has nothing to do with technical limitations and that is the biggest problem I have with whomever is making these idiotic and egocentric decisions.

The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.
