Triple Buffering is Here!
  1 / 2
Hi Guys!

Check out the latest version of Rivatuner at guru3d.com.

It includes a triple buffering utility that is Punkbuster SAFE!

I've been using it for about a year under non-disclosure, but now everyone can use it!

I think you will like the results.

Enjoy,
Chopper

What does this mean? I mean does it help with speed, quality?

Also when you go on guru3d it only has riva 2.0 final which was released in 2004 ...?

I should have been a bit more detailed.

Stereoscopic drivers user something called VSYNC. VSYNC synchronizes your videocard with the monitor's refresh rate (the number of times a new frame is displayed on the screen).

VSYNC is normally used to prevent visual tearing when your monitor can't keep up with the videocard, but for stereoscopic purposes, it gets your screen to display alternating frames with perfect timing.

The problem with VSYNC is that if your videocard can't keep up, the game's framerate drops, and you get chunky game play.

Triple Buffering adds an extra buffer - breathing room - for your videocard to catch up.

Unfortunately, up until now, you couldn't use this feature with DirectX games unless the game had enabled it - and most have not.

Your 3D experience should be 10% to 20% smoother with this utility.

Best wishes,

Really? Nice. I have had bad luck with VSync in the past. I have an 8800 and with America's Army, I couldn't get any higher than 30-60fps... on 1024x768 to 1280x1024. It was awful! I turned it off and I can get her up to 95-100fps at 1600x1200 res.

My monitor can do 120htz on 1024x768, I think that could be the problem. I mainly have my monitor at 1600x1200 res and have it at 60htz refresh rate.

I am new with stereo 3D gaming, but I know alot about how the 3D works. I can't wait for the 8800 drivers to come out so I can actually play in true 3D!

Hey

I installed Rivatuner. Is it these?
Main - Driver setting - customize - DirectDraw and Direct3D settings - Vsync - prerender limit = 3
Main - Driver setting - customize - OpenGL setting - Vsync - prerender limit = 2

I have a question regarding the:
Main - Driver setting - customize - DirectDraw and Direct3D settings - Antialias - Transparency antialiasing = none
Can I use multisampling or supersampling?
Does this overrides/get used in game settings (BF2)?

Is there other settings You recommend changing?

cheers /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

NONONONOO!!

You are way off.

I'm not at home now, but in the Rivatuner program directory, there should be another directory. Something like "tools" - something like that.

In there, there is a triple buffering utility. It's separate from the Rivatuner program.

Freke - one more thing.

You can use Transparent multisamplea and supersample in BF2.

It's good from things like grass and metal fences.

The advantage of Rivatuner is some of the older videocards (e.g. 6800 series) didn't include support for this type of AA. With Rivatuner, it does.

NVIDIA added driver support several months ago and Rivatuner followed suit.

Okay
In the C:\Program Files\RivaTuner v2.0...\Tools folder there are these folders:
ATIProbe
D3DOverrider
expand
NVInfo
NVStrap
NVXML
RivaTunerStatisticServer

Is RivaTuner a driver mod program?
Recommended changes in RivaTuner?

thx in advance :)

Hi Chopper,

This is great news, exactly wat we needed.

I'm away visiting family for the christmas period (hence the inactivity) but I'm very anxious to try this out.

Is it stable? Can we get pretty much any game to run with it?

I remember having alot of problems with DXtweaker's tripple buffering.

I have never understood why nVidia doesn't allow this feature in the drivers if it offers such an advantage.

I'll see what I have got installed wen I get back and post benchies. Hopefully the added performance will spread the awareness within the community. Right now, I don't think many people know what it is and how it can help.

I am hoping it isn't as dependent on vid memory as I think it will be, ie with large memory, you will get a comfortable boost but with lower memory, the system will start to cache the system RAM and actually degrade performance.

I've only had good experiences with it.

I've never been big on benchmarks. It's definately a big boost for smooth gameplay.

The only adjustment you may want to unselect is the "Hook" option. It either works or it doesn't. The performance is the same either way, though.

All in all, 99% of my games run with it no problem.

I haven't had any memory issues with it, and I'm running a 256MB card.

I ran Aquamark3 bench with D3Doverrider and saw no difference in score,
but when I play Battlefield 2 with D3Doverrider the "Alt-Tab trick" doesn't work.
So my fps stayes low (~10) instead of ~45. Anyway around that?
I changed the Antialias setting in RivaTuner to Supersamling and that really improoved the "metal fence" graphics without any serious hit on the fps. Nice!

Remind me what kind of videocard you are using?

When you get into BF2, do you hear a beep?

If you do, that means it is working.

Try unselecting the "Enable Load Library Hooking" - this can cause compatibility problems. You might not hear the beep, but the performance benefit should still be there.

I'm really surprised that you would have reduced performance with this utility!

Ignore the FPS. Does the game seem smoother to you? Does it get less chunky?

Chopper

Hi chopper, I'm not sure this utility is going to help me because there is an option in the advanced section of the driver to force tripple buffering on, I checked in the D3D Overrider section and all boxes are checked except " Force triple buffering in DirectDraw" am I missing something? Are you saying that forcing tripple buffering on in the driver panel doesn't always work? I'm going to try some older games with the "force triple buffering in DirectDraw" box ticked to see if older games play better.
