Bought a 3d projector

@gatorkea: thanks again for sharing your experience, I always like to hear about other perspectives. It is fascinating how subjective the 3D experience is. Must be part of why it's hard to sell to people. One other aspect that I've noticed in difference between monitor and projector and DK2- is the relative size of things. On the projector, especially with pop-out, things are roughly life-size, which makes it more immersive. Playing Dead Space 3 with life-size necromorphs was epic. The life-size Alien with our new fix makes me afraid. On the monitor, I don't get that level of immersion, maybe because of the frame or relative size cues or something, but it seems psychological. I definitely agree that it does toyification far better than the projector, and I suggest that's because of those size cues. On DK2, even though the resolution is noticeable and bad, there is no ghosting of course, and the size cues are definitely right, on purpose. It's much more immersive than even the projector because of the head-tracking, but the resolution is still a deal breaker for me because it's too in-my-face reminder that it's not real.

I use a 1080ST with a 100" (x1 gain) screen in a light controlled room. At times its TO BRIGHT for me. Then again I changed the GAMA from the "Benq" setting to where I had the best contrast. I also use the "save light" (eco)setting which claims to extend the life of my Bulb. Yes, there are times that the 720P-to-1080P seems a bit fuzzy but over all I'd rate the experience better than my 43" plasma. Now if I could only get the newfangled re-release of Metro games to even RUN maybe I can play them? Mark0.

I tried upscaling ALien using DSR and it looked awesome on the beamer. No Aliasing at all. Just stuck at 24hz! Is this another deliberate Nvidia cripple? What's that other software you can get for supersampling? Does it work with 3DTV Play at 60hz? My Panasonic PTAT6000E is far too bright. I have it on eco mode and I can change the brightness of the glasses to 3 settings too. Tweakers heaven! It's also silent and really is sharp. I can walk up to the screen and not see any pixels. Smooth screen technology I think it's called. Thought it was a marketing gimmick but it works very well. Wish I had 40k for the sony 4k short throw projector lol.

The only way to play at 60hz over HDMI (3D TV Play) is to play at 720p.

I know that, but DSR will still send it out at 720p it just renders at a higher resolution then downsamples it. If that as the case I wouldn't be able to do 2D 4k @60hz to my 1080p projector over HDMI 1.4 using DSR either!

BTW, this is not an NVidia mistake, HDMI 1.4 is crippled at 24Hz. In theory we'll get HDMI 2.0 stuff out that can then be enabled with a new driver, but I have yet to see any HDMI 2.0 projectors for gaming, the big manufacturers still think the only thing you can do with a projector is watch movies.

I think you are both misunderstanding what I am saying. Either that or I am misunderstanding what DSR is doing! I know 3DTV Play is 3D 1080p 24hz or 720p 60hz. DSR to my knowledge is like super sampling where the image is rendered at a higher resolution than your display device then outputted at your display devices native resolution. I play a game on my 1080p 60hz hdmi 1.4 projector in 2D and with DSR set in the nvidia control panel (with all options ticked) I can choose 4k 60hz In alien game settings (which my projector can't accept due to hdmi bandwidth restrictions and that fact it's 1080p) and it works fine! In alien I enable DSR crank in game resolution to 4k and it works in 3D but 24hz! There is no 60hz option even though my projector is getting the input at 720p! HDMI 1.4 can't do 2D 4k @ 60hz either but it's an option with DSR! There's even another thread soley addressing this issue! Nvidia have just left out 720p 3D 60HZ DSR support!

Hi, The best experience for 3D game, for me, it s with two 1080p projectors using passive 3D system like Omega filters. I ve got oculus dk1 and dk2, Sony hmz2, optoma hd25 lv and two Sony hw50 with Omega filters and geobox 501. And for me the best is 3D passive solution, in the dark room ! Better that dk2 until better resolution....and it s not a single player experience ;) You can use this system with lowcost dlp projector ...

Lotta people saying projector is better, makes me feel like I did something wrong lol, but then again I only see very few who compare it to a good monitor, whereas most people just compare it to the 3d tv's.

hey pirate, have you watched any 3d bluray movies on your monitor? how does it look? I am thinking about purchasing a bluray drive.

I've watched downloaded 3D movies, it's pretty good. Not quite as good as a cinema, but I don't know how the quality of a bluray would compare. That said, there are apparently major problems with bluray and nvidia right now. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/767088/3d-vision/broken-3d-bluray-playback-since-fake-3d-driver-introduced-unfixable-/
