Confusion over 3D and Blu-Ray Please could I get some advice?
I just got the nVidia 3D Video Player working.
I really enjoyed some 3D trailers I downloaded; How to Train Your Dragon looks like a lot of fun. The PotC4 trailer was pretty crap though.
Decided to pick up How to Train Your Dragon in Blu-Ray... however I just want to make sure I can play it in 3D? Is it an actual 3D release? I can never tell so I haven't delved into 3D movies yet, even though I relaly want to.
I have a PS3; could I connect it to my moniter, play the movie through it, while using the 3D Vision shutter-glasses?
Or will I have to buy a Blu-Ray drive?
Either way I just need some general advice. Don't suppose anyone knows if Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete can be watched in 3D? =S

I have not tested 3D DVD's yet. Some are haveing issues trying to play 3D DVD's with nvidia 3d vision player. The only way i know of how to watch 3D movies is through Blu-ray. You will need to purchase a Blu-ray player (hardware optical drive) then you will need to purchase the 3D software, like PowerDVD10 by Cyberlink or another one, i can't reccommend because i have not used any yet. I don't think it is possible to play 3D DVD's for free through nvidia player?, you might have to purchase the audio codec?.

Dunno about PS3 in particular, but in general, the rule is for PCs, any drive will do as long as it's Blu Ray. No special '3D' version required. For stand alone BR players, you must have a player that is specifically labeled '3D' so early BR drives won't do 3D.
As far the the discs, be careful that you don't fall for the trick of vender labeling '3D' and then finding out it's really anaglyph, not real 3D. Real 3D must have the official "Blu Ray 3D" logo on the cover. For example, The Polar Express comes in three versions: Blu Ray, 3D Blu Ray anaglyph, and Blu Ray 3D. Only the later one is honest 3D, but the anaglyph has "3D" in big letters on the cover. How to train Your Dragon is Blu Ray 3D, I don't believe there's an anaglyph version so you're safe there.
As to 3D DVDs, I'm not aware if they even exist or not.

The PS3 only supports hdmi1.4 displays. 3D vision monitors with hdmi 1.4 are very recent and have an embedded emitter, almost all of the other 3d Vision monitors only work in 3D using Dual-link DVI, which the PS3 does not support.
So if your monitor has hdmi1.4 input, you can use your PS3, otherwise you'll have to buy a BluRay player for your PC. Any model will do it as long as it has 2x BluRay read speed (if I remember correctly PowerDVD's hardware requirements).
You'll also need software to play the BluRay 3D content like Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 ultra mkII, Arcsoft Total Media Theatre 5, etc...
How to train Your Dragon has two released version : The version you'll find at about any store is the 2D version only. The 3D version is an exclusive tie-in with Samsung. If you want to buy it new, you'll have to buy a package containing two pairs of Samsung 3D glasses with the movie. You'll also be able to find the disc alone second hand on ebay.
Roller11 : Anaglyph is real 3D too.
There are 3D DVDs, they are usually named HQFS (field sequential).

If it doesnt, then it either isnt 3D, or its the paper glasses that are red/blue that will come with it.
