Anti Aliasing in 3D (using Acer H5360BD)?
Hello,
perhaps not a good way to start in a nvidia forum, but for my background: i currently own a Radeon HD5850, and i am quite happy with it, *BUT* when it comes to 3D there is one thing that really annoys me: Using solutions like Tridef 3D (which is a 3rd party 2d->3d game utility) turns of anti aliasing. I use 3D with the Acer H5360BD projector which is 720p only, so good anti aliasing is crucial for good image quality.

What is the situation for anti aliasing with 3d vision? Is it available and of good quality? Also for games which do not support 3D natively? I would really switch to nvidia for this.

Hmm...just thinking...though the Acer H5360BD is not 3d vision certificated, 3D output should work using HDMI 1.4, shouldn't it? (Using DLP Link glasses, not the nvidia ones).

Thanks for the help!

When using 3D Vision, AA is enabled and adjusted via in-game settings the same way as without 3D. You can also force it in the Nvidia control panel if so desired. Most 3D Vision users agree that the 3D effect reduces or eliminates the need for AA - somehow edges are smoother just by virtue of the stereo effect, but I still enable it on most games as it does improve quality somewhat.

I'm by no means an expert on compatibility, but I'm thinking you may be able to purchase 3D TV Play to use with your projector. That being said, I believe there have been several cases of projectors/TVs/etc... NOT working that weren't on the compatiblility list, so you may want to wait for feedback from someone who has succeeded with that particular model first.

Snicker covered most of it well. AA does work fine with 3D Vision with the expected drops in performance as in normal 2D. It looks like that PJ does support 3DTV Play over HDMI, AndrewF the Sr. Product Manager for 3D Vision covers a lot of the questions about it here: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=195567

The one caveat is there has been at least one report 3DTV Play disables AA override in games that do not natively support AA. I haven't seen it substantiated by others and have personally verified the games in question (Mass Effect 1/2) do apply AA via override bits with 3D Vision (not 3DTV Play however). I'm not ruling out the possibility the stereo driver disables some of the normal driver functions however, because AO is disabled in 3D Vision from what I've tested.

Another advantage Nvidia will soon have over the competing formats is driver-enabled FXAA for most any game. It was leaked in an earlier R295 build and ManuelG said they are still working on it and once its ready, it'll be exposed in the official driver releases. But FXAA as you might have seen in some games (Skyrim, Batman AC) is a great, cheap shader-based FSAA. While it does blur the image, it also does an amazing job at applying AA on everything with very little performance hit and no increase in VRAM usage, which is a huge benefit in 3D as every bit of performance counts.

I was the one who could not get AA overrides to work with 3DTV Play. I couldn't on multiple fresh installations, due to my SSD drive failing 3 times. In 2D, axillary AA overrides will apply, but not once after days and days of trying random settings have i been able to get it to work with 3DTV Play. In game AA methods works, but since many games are console ports, the AA methods are blurry post processing types, which for me blur the screen too much and i end up choosing aliasing over that. I use a 46" LCD, so not sure if a projector would be different.

Weird that you say AA is disabled with DDD, i don't seem to have that problem yet on the games i've used with DDD, its one of the reasons i bought it. Which games?
