Just built a new pc and always wanted to try out the 3d so I kinda planed for it in the build.
Cpu-I7 4770k
MB-Asus Maximus VI Hero
GPU-EVGA GTX780TI
Mem-16gb Gskill
Monitor-Asus VG248Qe
Windows 8.1 64bit
Everything went through setup ok, but have been trying out with a couple games that are listed 3d vision ready(Batman Arkham Origins), and the ghosting just going past 1 bar of depth is horrible. Batman in the middle and transparent batman on left and right. Can mess with convergence some to bring batman together, but then everything at a distance is horribly ghosted. Swithed the power control for usb in windows, and tried switching it from a 3.0 port to a 2.0 port. Hope this is something that can be fixed, I had higher hopes for the 3d gaming.

Most monitors have default brightness set to 100 when they ship, which is a recipe for ghosting - particularly with high-contrast games like Arkham. Try dialling it back - I personally have mine set to 15. Not only does it reduce ghosting significantly, I find it's more comfortable to look at for extended periods.

Oh, one other thing - a lot of people have problems with 8.1+3d. I strongly recommend installing 8 instead. If you dig around online you should be able to find instructions on installing 8 with an 8.1 key.

Well set brightness to 15 and didn't help much. Did notice that when I open the monitor menu, even though it's set at 120hz it shows it running at 137hz. Is that enough to throw the sync off?

That's...weird. I don't have any experience with that particular monitor, though my understanding is that monitors offering a refresh rate above 120hz will drop down to 120hz when in 3d mode. If it truly is operating at 137hz, that would almost certainly impact sync.
Have you set your desktop refresh rate to 120? That might help.

Yeah, something is not working right. That monitor with LightBoost should be pretty good with regard to ghosting, pretty much as good as you can get with a monitor.

I am also suspicious of Win8.1- that version of the OS has known problems with 3D, and this might be another variant. You might try the very latest Beta, which has been reported to help with 8.1 problems.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of 3D :)
I say ditch that crap called Win8 and try Win7 insteed, see whats happen okey ?
A little ghosting is normal and something that will never go away but that much seems awefully wrong, have you set the glasses to on ? ;)
One more stupid question, have you set it up properly in the nvidia controll 3d vision panel so you dont have it in anaglypt mode ?
Annyway try Win7 and see if it will be any better!
I am running 337.50 beta driver. I had win 7 on my old setup but put 8.1 on this 1 I just built to take advantage of newer directx features which is the reason most people eventually upgrade. So far this is the only problem I have had with this setup, so if they can't make it run on updated systems I will probably just return them.

Mate let me tell you something about DX, we here are enthusiast so we KNOWS when/how it's worth upgrading and so far there is absolutaly nothing new in Win8 besides DX11.2 but there is NOONE game that uses it.
If it aint that crap Win8 thats the problem I guess there is something that YOU havent set up properly.

If you want a ghost free experience without sacrificing image quality by lowering contrast you have a couple different options for monitors.
1. A monitor with lightboost. To me makes the biggest difference out of everything. Set the contrast at 70 & once the monitor warms up after about 30 minutes the ghosting will be gone. Every LCD or LED monitor I have used for 3d always has had ghosting that ruined the experience. Except LIGHTBOOST!
2. A DLP TV or Projector. This is probably the best to avoid ghosting but IMO 720p doesn't cut it.
Once you can get no ghosting & understand depth & convergence 2d gaming will be a thing of the past.

I have the Asus VG278H aka lightboost monitor with 3d vision 2 and of course there is GHOSTING!!
Dont let Natedog fool you, the ghosting is very little but there is GHOSTING.
And I have my screen at 70 contrast as that was the first thing I did when I was playing around with it.
Google my screen + 3d vision blog and you will clearly see how ghosting look even on a lightboost monitor.
So you doogy, stop talking rubbish, you clearly dont know WTF you are talking about mate!

Yes with a white background there will be ghosting. Certain games I need to turn the contrast down to 55. Like I said the ghosting goes down after a half hour or so.
But for the most part I can play any game & have very little to no ghosting with lightboost.
Put it this way I can't use my other 2 3d monitors because the ghosting is terrible. Besides DLP....lightboost is the best it can get.

Well, those other options are all fine, I also use a 720p projector and resolution is always fine, but he's asking about his current equipment.
Something is wrong with the setup or the equipment, you will get some ghosting, but your description sounds far worse than normal.
Having the monitor running at 137Hz is definitely wrong and bad. If that's true (software not lying), that would definitely cause the ghosting, because the glasses and monitor must be in sync for 3D to work.
It might be related to 8.1, but we don't know. As noted, there actually isn't anything in 8.1 that is being used today for 3D graphics, or for that matter, any graphics anywhere. DXGI 1.3 is a new API that is going to take time for developers to adopt. I'm a software developer, and in fact Microsoft introduced a serious bug in DXGI 1.3 for Win8.1 that returns errors for calls that always worked. So stuff that previously worked fine is broken under 8.1. 3D is likely one of those casualties.
It's your call of course, but there is no possible way that 8.1 is worth more than 3D. I think that once you can see it, working properly, that you will agree.
I'd focus first on making sure that you can run at 120Hz, which is the 3D standard for this setup.
