Fixing to join the 3D Revoltution. Advice needed
OK guys.

I am for sure no nOOb when it comes to PC's. But will admit I am in fact a nOOb to 3D vision.

Without a long story I have been thinking about trying this for some time. This evening I got a real deal on a 3D capable monitor and scooped it up. So now I have a monitor and will be ordering the 3D vision Kit tomorrow.

Now for my question:

Can any of the 3D Gurus provide me with some things to watch out for? Or tips in general for setting up my system?

I have quite a variety of GPUs to choose from, so what would work best?

Just any thing you think i may need to know would be helpful.

welcome- you will love 3d gaming. steerclear of quad sli or 3-way SLI. performance is better without them with the current drivers. Run the fastest card you have like 2 285s in sli or a 295. make sure your montior is on the supported hardware list. learn how to tweak the depth and convergence in game. buy 3d ready titles for the best experience. be prepared to never want to play in 2d ever again. hope this helps.

I have the Acer GD235HZ monitor 1980 x 1080 it has an Nvidia 3D Vision ready logo so I am assuming its supported.

I have GTX 285's and GTX 295's so which ever would give me the best FPS and 3D. I guess I can give either one a spin and see what i end up liking the best. So no quad sli support yet?

And yes I have read the tweaking is important. I first tried an in store demo unit and it was so bad I didnt even consider it again until I read that the demo is setup with general settings and 3D is best when adjusted to the user.

Yes that monitor is supported

There is quad SLI support but it decreases performance

i would bet the 285 in sli will be the fastest set up- but i dont have personal experience testing those cards back to back.

i wish there was quad sli support.

Welcome to the club EG.

I'd say 2x285 would be the best combo at the moment.

The set up and basic use is pretty fool proof really, just plug it in and turn it on, make sure you have the latest 3D drivers on and run the set up wizard. After that it get's a bit tricky tweaking specific games, If the game is nVidia 3D supported you should get an OSG pop up with a few tips on what the best settings are for that particular game.

There's a handy dial on the back of the emiter for depth and ctrl/+F5/6 does convergence.

I've got that monitor you ordered and while it's great for 3D, it's a bit naff in 2D, so you may only want it for gaming link. I decided I wanted to use my old Samsung for 2D browsing etc. So went dual monitor, now I have to tweak SLi, 3D and dual monitor.. It's all starting to get a bit messy with performance drops left, right and centre.

Other bugs I've stumbled across include flickering [in my case due to ambient lighting [dark room preferable] and other monitors being on in the same room]. Ghosting, sometimes less depth/convergence help, sometimes not.

Hope this helps :).

I don't mean to highjack this thread, but it seems perfect to make my first post in here. Why?

Because, in a drunk crazyness last weekend, I just ordered a Core i5 750 System, with 8 GB of ram and an GTX 285 (and some other pc-ish stuff that goes into the pc-casing... ^^). :-) I also ordered the Nvidia 3D-Vision Kit, Assassins Creed, Just Cause 2 and Need for speed shift. And an Acer h5360.

Just kidding about the drunken crazyness: After some extensive research in the web for about 2 weeks, I am in desperate need for my real 3D fix. :-)

Now, after reading here in this forums (why didn't I come here earlier?), I start to wonder: Shall I order a second GTX 285 for SLI or not?

Because the resolution 3D-Vision will be enjoyed in will be 720p, I only ordered 1 GTX 285. I want to play it on the beforementioned h5360 3D-Beamer from Acer which cannot display more than 720p natively. Before ordering this beamer and the pc-setup I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion, that 1 GTX 285 should be enough for the time being to fire up 3D vision in 720p in quite good graphical settings on the beamer.

I hope I wasn't too wrong in the selection of my soon-arriving-at-my-doormat-pc-and-3d-vision hardware?

Life is like a fully powered 3D-Vision rig where you can wrec havoc in just cause 2.

Okay, maybe not. Want some chocolate? I'm swiss! :-P

i would say that at 720 a single 285 should be more than fine. But more power never hurts. And gamng in 3d is the best....I cant go back.

sli will provide higher visual levels in 3d- 3d is pretty tough on the cards. adding a dedicated physx card helps allot also with games that support it. but, u will be able to play on that card just fine just not at super high visual quality settings.
