HDMI 1.4 Displays - Support? None of the existing 3D over HDMI sets are supported - will 1.4 be?
1 / 2
There are Samsung and Panasonic displays that support 3D over HDMI which are available now. They are compatible with the Sony PS3 (at least in dev firmaware 3.20) - but they are not supported by the Nvidia 3D Vision.
With the 3D support in HDMI 1.4 established and displays from all major manufacturers expected by the end of the year is the Nvidia plan to continue to focus on specific support for individual displays? Or will they embrace the standard and support stereo 3D via HDMI 1.4?
I want a set I can use with my PC for games but also use directly with my PS3 for blu-ray and PS3 titles when they are available.

I'm really hoping the add support for all the up coming 3D displays and not just specific models. I really want to get myself one of the 40" to 46" displays. I really don't want to have to search for a specific model as it will be hard down here. That is because all the models in New Zealand and Australia have different model names to the ones in the US. It could make it very confusing.

since HDMI 1.4 include some new tech-specifications for 3d stereo, i wonder if gaming on 3DTV with Nvidia 3dtv Play will be better/whose/same compared to "old" 120 Hz LCD monitors with 3d vision?
I don't mean obvious size difference.

Nvidia already annouced they will support all hdmi1.4 displays regardless of brand or type of 3D display (active/passive) though their upcoming product :
Nvidia 3DTV Play, which is essentially the 3D Vision driver software without the glasses.

PS3 is Hdmi 1.3, if Sony can do 3D on 1.3 whats the trick, why cant others do it ??
3.30 (3D) was released yesterday
Just read hdmi 1.3 can do 3D only @ 1080i not p
1080i limit is 25 frame rate
BluRay is 1080/24p
Still Sonys says the PS3 will do 1080p
Lots of cunfusing and wrong info out there

What it comes down to is PS3 (hdmi 1.3) can do 3D but needs TV hdmi 1.4
PS3 might be limited with future content

Yeah, I have a feeling the pS3 is only capable to do 720p/1080i in 3D. I don't think HDMI 1.3 has the bandwidth for full HD 3D.
The 3D part of hdmi1.4 uses exactly the same hardware as 1.3, the difference is in standardizing the input/output formats to allow automatic detection of the 3D content.
PS3 will support :
stereo 1080p @24Hz for Bluray3D movies
stereo 720p @50/60Hz for games
This is possible because the image processing the PS3 is all done in software.

Indeed BlackSharkfr is correct about the resolution/refresh rates.
I had not seen the information about 3DTV Play, that makes me very happy!

o Top-and-Bottom
720p @ 50 or 59.94/60Hz

TV or Monitor needs to be Hdmi 1.4, hopefully we will see new monitor's @ 3D 16:10 and 1.4
For computer monitors hdmi1.4a is clearly not up to the task. It would be good for compatibility purposes with PS3, Broadcast and BluRay but for a big computer display anything below stereo 1080p @60Hz is a fail, and Hdmi 1.4a makes this format optional.
Moreover some computer monitors go beyond : like 16:10 displays with 1920x1200 resolution, or the bigger 30" monitors with 2560x1600 resolution. Hdmi 1.4a was never designed for these screen sizes.

I would say the Sony would limit the PS3 to 720p for gaming in 3D. I highly doubt the PS3 has the grunt to run games in full HD 3D.
