I have a mobo that takes DDR now... I want the AM3 X3 proc, but there are no am3 DDR3 mobos out that use the nforce chipset!?!?!?
So what do I do, do I get a mobo that takes DDR2 instead, even though I am upgrading?
I am going with the gtx 260 because I have a 550 watt PSU, and trying not to upgrade EVERYTHING to keep cost down.
Will this all be sufficent enough to push the 3D vision to full potential?
I am running 8800gt with Samsung 61A750 too, but I probably won't upgrade my graphic card anytime soon since it's still running most games pretty well in 3D 1080P, unless I wanna play Crysis, that's another story...so yea, you can save your $ and enjoy with the long list of supported games :)

So the 8800gt runs everything good enough? Even online? whats your average fps on games like Fallout3, l4d, tf2, cod4&5, mirrors edge???
Got any of those games?
What is your current rig look like? Cuz if I do not have to upgrade my graphics card... that would be nice, but I want some smooth 50-60 fps gaming online... not the 20-30.

Not sure I would waste the money on the video card like I did. From what most users say, the 200 series cards do not make much difference with frame rates especially in 3D, unless you step up the to high end 295. Most get better results with the 8800, as there seems to be problems with the 200's but most of the problems seem to be the 280. The 260 is the card I have and now I wish I had saved the money toward upgrading my system. I have a Q6600 now and want to go with the Core I7. Big step in speed and cost as well. Upgrade your processor for now and see how it goes.

The 8800 series is a fine card. The jump to a 200 series will probably double your FPS, but not immersion in the game experience. Ideally, upgrade to a 285 -and- the 3D vision for a spectacular experience, but for now you need to choose between a more frames or more depth.

well, it's not that 200series card not worth the upgrade, it's just I won't recommend doing it now>> say maybe wait till the summer or 3rd quarter of the year when the price has dropped or there are some games you really needed a new card to run; or maybe they will have a newer card come out, and market will change again..........otherwise, why not keep your good old 8800gt :)

Ok I am getting conflicting stories here... rick says 8800 does just fine in performance, but spyder says a 260 will double my FPS... Im taking it that an upgrade in my proc is the better move here?
Or I could get another 8800 and SLI them.
With my current rig (see post above) What do I need to upgrade to play online without major lost in frame rate... especially L4D and Mirrors Edge?
Is that x3 AM3 proc good? or should I spend double the money for the core i7 and double the money for a new mobo?

Are you wanting to play in 3D or just increase your FPS? Because if you want more FPS add a second 8800 (second only to two 280s) and call it done. Your CPU is fine for lower resolution 3D gaming. If you're going to upgrade your CPU, you should upgrade your motherboard and memory as well. A GPU upgrade will always transfer to a newer chipset upgrade.
With your configuration you can play 3D Vision no problem. I recommend upgrading to it first. It's got the most bang for buck.
EDIT:
I just noticed your MB doesn't support SLI. Get 3D vision glasses, then a new GPU, then upgrade your chipset (cpu, ram, mb combo).

1. You NEED a new CPU. When you are using 3d vision it is power hungry on your system. If you ever want to fully utilize 3d technology and watch MOVIES, a fast quad core processor is the best!
2. I have already owned an 8800 GT SLI EVGA SSC setup and I promise you that a 295 GTX will SMOKE an 8800 GT SETUP. For instance, I played Bioshock all settings high 8800 GT SLI Setup, I averaged 57 FPS. I got the 295 GTX and now I average 125 FPS settings all High. I pretty much see double performance with 1 295 GTX. Plus, people say wait for new cards!!! Why???? In a year these cards will drop in price and you will be able to buy another one for CHEAP!!! So what, ATI will release a card that supports DX11. Remember when Vista first came out and DX10 came out it did hardly anything to improve quality of games. It still barely improves games. Trust me STAY AWAY from another 8800 GT!!!
3. Use your existing 8800 GT for a dedicated physics Card /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
4. Ditch your motherboard, get an INTEL board. If you want to go cheaper get 750i FTW board Cheap and Overclocker Friendly, Get some PC6400 Ram Overclock to 900 MHZ ($50.00 tops) Q6600 $189.00 and Overclock to 3.0 GHZ or Higher

One more thing, going back the the graphics card. When you are in 3d mode your Frame Rate literally gets cut in 1/2!!!! There is a good review at Tomshardware and you will find Nvidia 3d Vision review there. Gaming in 3d is one of the best experiences I have had with computers in a long time. I know it costs alot of money to get in up and going. Trust me I know. I bought a $1300.00 T.V., Windows Vista, New Quad Core processor, 295 gtx, and new DDR2 Ram and it WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!
1 more thing if you go with a card like a 295 GTX you WILL NEED A NEW POWER SUPPLY!! You need a power supply with at least 680 watts with +46 Volts on the +12 rail!!!

3D Vision will require a strong video card if you want to run games on highest settings. Although it does seem that aliasing isn't as noticeable in stereo 3D, so that anti-aliasing doesn't have to be as high if you can't stand jaggies. Although depending on what resolution you want to game at, I would either recommend upgrading your video card if you are going to be playing at 1080p on a HDTV, but if you are going to be playing at 1680x1050 or 1440x900 or less on the Samsung 120Hz or a smaller CRT monitor, I would stick with the 8800 GT for now until the GT300 series comes out at the end of the year. Your CPU is plenty strong for gaming right now. My personal experience is that I didn't really see tremendous framerate increases going from my old E8200 to a Core i7 965 because I kept my GTX 280 for both systems. The video card is the more important part of the equation here, of which your 8800 GT is plenty strong, but depending on your personal preferences on visuals and performance, perhaps it is the time to upgrade if you want to play in 3D.

LOL damnit, common guys.
I got one guy sayin my CPU is good, one saying I NEED to upgrade it... then one guy tellin me I need a new gfx card, then another person telling me that it is good enough to do the 3D vision.
LONG STORY SHORT. Will be playin on the HL61A750 Samsung DLP TV. Will want high rezolution and minimum 50-60 fps.
I might just do what most are saying and buy the 3D Vision, then upgrade parts as I need them to get the performance I want.

If you want High resolution with 1900x1080 you must have a high end Graphics Card. (Period, Period)
I have a HL61A750 as well and it for 3d Vision.
You need a high end 200 Card
Right now only SLI is recognized by Nvidia 3d Vision. Tri and Quad Sli are not supported
You should run windows Vista 64 Bit
Newer games coming out now and old ones support 64 bit
Almost all new games that will come out in the future WILL support 64 bit MEANING,
YOU NEED QUAD CORE
You definatly need better ram than DDR (You should get a MOBO with DDR2)

Or I could get another 8800 and SLI them.
With my current rig (see post above) What do I need to upgrade to play online without major lost in frame rate... especially L4D and Mirrors Edge?
Is that x3 AM3 proc good? or should I spend double the money for the core i7 and double the money for a new mobo?

With your configuration you can play 3D Vision no problem. I recommend upgrading to it first. It's got the most bang for buck.
EDIT:

1x Dell 30" 2560x1600 LCD
1x Samsung 22" 120hz GeForce 3D Vision Display
1x APC 1500VAC SmartUPS Battery Backup
1x Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
I would recommend the following
3. Use your existing 8800 GT for a dedicated physics Card

1 more thing if you go with a card like a 295 GTX you WILL NEED A NEW POWER SUPPLY!! You need a power supply with at least 680 watts with +46 Volts on the +12 rail!!!
UPGRADE AND ENJOY!!!!

With your configuration you can play 3D Vision no problem.

I would either recommend upgrading your video card if you are going to be playing at 1080p on a HDTV.
I would stick with the 8800 GT for now until the GT300 series comes out at the end of the year.
Your CPU is plenty strong for gaming right now. My personal experience is that I didn't really see tremendous framerate increases going from my old E8200 to a Core i7 965.
The video card is the more important part of the equation here, of which your 8800 GT is plenty strong.
