Is Win 8 a better solution than Win 7?

@InSync ... Lol. I'll follow these 'blind' guys any day of the week over you ... for the record though, there's zero ghosting on DLP and there's already 3D HMDs that also have the zero ghosting, so there's really no need to wait for this 'utopian' 3D future you claim VR to be. VR isn't going to be perfect, as you're suggesting. You're still going to have to overlook certain issues if you want to enjoy it ...

To each, their own. My first gaming machine was the Spectrum 16k. I have been gaming seriously ever since. Can count the number of times I had to replace the keyboard membrane! I get the impression there are many long term gamers here, probably longer. I have gamed on consoles, arcades and PCs. Through a number of generations. 3D has been, by far, the most significant boost to immersion I have witnessed. (I haven't tried the rift yet though.) I always feel frustrated with negative reviews because I can't believe they are not seeing what I am seeing. Everyone single person I have demoed 3D to have been equally blown away. My fav anecdote is when my media studies colleague railed on 3D without seeing it. I demo'ed Portal 2 and all it took for him to be blown away declaring it's not a gimmick was the fade to white at the start of the game; what, 3 seconds? But we all know this right? and why does anyone care? :) That said I have never known a serious 3D gamer to leave 3D unless they stopped gaming. Certainly haven't prefered 2D over 3D for visual considerations! But it could happen I s'pose! @ InSync OOC What were your 3D settings? Did you play with convergence? Did you configure depth to something better than the laughable default nVidia set up?

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Unfortunately, agressive Microsoft politics is pushing Win 8 like a Hell. Last half of year i installed Win 7 on the notebooks four times for ppl that don't want to use Win8 becouse many and many laptop developers install Win 8 and do not allow to use CD key for Win 7 downgrade. Furthermore, there are no drivers for some laptop models for Win 7. It is so sad situation.

I'm not a fan of Win 8 at all and while the underlying code may have improved in some areas, the new push from Microsoft has been a business move because they don't know where to go now. Win 7 does everything that most people need it to do and more. Win 8 is not anything revolutionary or game changing so to speak. It's window dressing. The market is filled with so much shovelware it makes a person's head spin. I love advances in technology, but WIN 8 and all these mini apps for the PDA's just don't do it for me.

Ghosting is extremely minimal as too not even being mentionable if you set it up right in most games. The rest of your points are absurd. With a good rig and monitor with lightboost not only is the picture not "destroyed" most games actually look much better. You have either never gamed in real 3d with a good setup or just a troll. Sounds like a bit of both too me. If he has actually even played in 3d vision sounds like if he has, it was on a poor monitor. Then the irony of not wanting to wear glasses and then dropping the name of the OR ... nothing for you here troll. Time to leave. btw stick with windows 7 pro 64x and be happy. Windows 8 just gives you problems for no real benefit.

Of course it way better then 3d vision 1 as I have used that to with the Samsung 22 monitor. What facts have you stated? That you personaly are fed up with stereovision in games? That 3D Vision is dead? And you're stating this on the only forum on the net that would give you the attention you crave? The community which is keeping 3D Vision alive, even when you and other clueless people are declaring it dead already? (cause any other group/forum would not even care to reply to you, since 3D Vision is dead, remember?) And you're calling these people "blind fanboys"? I think you mean that they are people with enough experience in gaming, money, and discerning taste (and presumably biological/eyesignt affinity), not to mention rare coding skills, to recongnise this particular technology as the most impressive contribution to gaming ever since PCs were invented. And that is a measurable, proven fact, not fanboism. Sorry guys, I had to feed him today, it's early and he did not have anything yet for breakfast.

He's right to an extent though, 3D gaming is pretty much dead, nextgen consoles don't support it, most PC devs don't, Nvidia barely does, without a few people here next to no one would, hell DX11 and Windows (8.1) barely do, don't get me wrong I have invested in 3D and have a 3D tv & Projector, but it's pretty much just boiled down to films in 3D now, what work is being done is being aimed at the 'next big thing' of HMDs like the Oculus rift.

Sure NVidia has mostly dropped the ball, but even they are trying to do something, aka Compatibility Mode. We can hate on it, but you have to admit they put time and money into it. That would not seem to qualify as dead. For the devs, when did they ever support 3D? One or two here and there, just like now. Metro Last Light just came out, and it was freakin' good in real 3D. Moreover, a lot of devs have seen OR popularity and are looking at 3D for the first time ever. Doesn't really qualify as dead to me. Tridef is still a viable solution for some games for people who can use it. Still making new fixes, clearly not dead. Windows 8.0 actually includes a new stereoscopic API. Nobody has used it yet, but that doesn't seem dead to me. 3D movies make more money every year, and are growing. Clearly not dead. Then there is that game list. When I started playing 5 years ago, the list of high quality games was pretty short. Lots of games were sort of supported in automatic mode, and didn't look terrible, but still had a lot of flaws. Look at that HelixMod game list- which is longer than it's ever been. Pretty much all of those games are HelixReady. Lastly, we just this year have a viable DX11 wrapper that everyone presumed would simply not happen. We've fixed 4 games with it, it's a real thing. We have the ability to fix games! That means we are not at the whims of stupid developers or waiting forever for stupid corporations. Now when I think about it this way, I think, 3D has never been in better shape.
