It seems I was wrong about 3d not operating at 1440p for the swift. Maybe I was based on some of the first articles that arrived about this matter, when everything was still in the air. So, my bad...
I must admit that I have been disappointed with the huge decreased performance that I will suffer moving from 1680x1050 (my samsung) to 1440p (swift). Or even to 1080p is a considerable loss. :-/ I thought I have a "super PC", but no...hahaha
It's not in my future plans update my gpu (I have this SLI just a few months ago o.O' ), and Can say that I have been able to play Metro LL, in 3d (awesome btw), with MAX settings and AA. A bit forced sometimes (20 frames), but OK. BUT this is playing at 1050p, of course, so when I switch to 1080p or 1440p I think I will suffer the change a lot :-/
An idea: Would it be feasible, with the Asus swift, playing at 1080p at least in 3d mode and for most demanding games, in order to reduce the frames impact? Actually it would be as using the VG278HE.
Later I could play in 1440p in 2d and for less demanding games.
Talking about something else: Is actually g-sync so astounding as we are hearing? I mean, Is it worth the price increase? I have read that g-sync could be set aside soon by a new implemented VESA technology in every display port 1.2a device: "Adaptative sync" (as the adaptative sync from drivers, but already implemented in the display port device)...omg this is the "never ending story" xD
And last question: None of you have talked about the new monitor by BENQ, the XL2720G. Any news about this one?

To the best of my knowledge, there's been no confirmation from anyone on these forums that it works in 1440p/3d. That's not to say it won't, just that it's not yet 100% certain.

It shouldn't be /too/ bad to 1080p. You have a good system, but 1440p will definitely require an upgrade, or significant sacrifices in image quality/framerate.

Maybe. Many monitors look much worse at non-native resolutions, so you may suffer significantly reduced image quality. However until we've had someone test it, it's impossible to know.

For people like us who are used to 120hz monitors, it's probably not as big of an improvement. Also as previously mentioned, g-sync doesn't work in 3d.

As to the specifics we are not ready to release this information yet but stay tuned. As we get closer to the formal launch we will release this information and more."

The main culprit is actually pushing all these pixels to the screen with a decent rate. What framerate is to expect when doing 3D at 2560? I do not believe anything today can do that that at 144 ,120, probably not even 24Hz. I'm not the man to know for sure though. It says 1DP and 2 x USB3.0 interface.

There are probably 5 variables:

- the highest resolution

- a high, smooth framerate

i think u meant the benq2720z right ? i had 3 benq2411z which are basically the same as the 2720z.
the crosstalk/ghosting habits of the benq are really ****** up. it really takes away the fun of playing in 3d. the first i had behaved a little bit better than the others but was still not really acceptable.
everyone of them had pixel failures and 2of them had a line in the middle of the screen which became really visible in dark pictures. everyone i had was build in januar 2014 and had firmware version 1.
its really a shame, because everything else the benq performes well.
i also have a 3d lg plasma tv an with little tweaks i get zero ghosting with 3dtvplay. if u compare the benq which is supposed to be 3dvision ready its just sad.
i will try the asus vg248qe now, heard it should be better than the benq in 3d.
normally i would prefer the benq over the asus for its features but the ghosting is really annoying.

And what about the lightboost system? My monitor is 1st gen so doesn't have this. It's a big difference, right?

But as you said 1440P will take it's toll and the ROG will cost you and arm and a leg.
I have just ordered a Gigabyte GTX 780 and I belive even that will have some problem with 1440P gaming not to mention 3D.
Annyway if the upcoming BenQ are that expensive and only 1080P and a old TN panel with 6bit I would never ever consider it, I will go for the swift tho, cant wait to lay my hands on G-Sync and 1440P gaming with a true 8 Bit panel :)
I did notice it slightly when I first got the monitor, and was trying to look for it. I stopped noticing it very quickly though. I sit about 80cm from my monitor too.
All monitors have a little ghosting, but it's not bad at all. It only shows up in very high contrast scenes, which are rare.
I haven't owned a monitor without it, but all it really does is allow for more light to pass through the glasses, resulting in a brighter image. I don't think it's a huge deal.
I think LightBoost is also supposed to dramatically help ghosting, because the backlight is strobing instead, which means it's turned off during the edge times that cause ghosting.
