The nvidia reps I've spoken to at the 3D Vision escalation site have been telling me for several weeks that the latest release shedule is Dec. 2010.
That said, I think this whole thing is a tempest in a teapot cause 3DTV Play just isn't that great. In fact, I've gone back to 2D due to poor image quality in 3DTV Play.

Now comes the question: is that hardware itself (i.e. GTX 470) which does not require 3DTV Play software and IR emitter to work with 3DTV in 3D mode or something else?
Do I need to get 3DTV Play soft to enable my 9800 GTX or there are some other tricks around presumably staing with NVIDIA?
[/quote]Depends on what you want to do.
The gtx470 does not require the IR emitter to be plugged in while watching Blu Ray 3D in 3D. I have tested this with a gtx580, I assume it's true for the gtx470. So once you do an install with the emitter plugged in, you can remove it altogether. However, this is true only for BRD 3D. For gaming, the emitter must be plugged in the entire time your game is launched, else you go instantly into 2D.

Also, the 9800 GTX won't work at all for any gaming or Blu Ray 3D playback. In fact, you can't even complete the install, I've been struggling to do this for many hours over the last two days. I may try the GT 240 tomorrow, but I suspect that to complete the install, I'll have to go all the way to a gtx450, possibly higher. By "install" I mean complete the 3D Vision setup, not the Geforce driver.

In light of that link i hold my hands up because that is about as official as you can get from Nvidia i agree. But, back to my original complaint, its not me defending Nvidia at all, just having my 50p's worth at the people posting rubbish about selling all their green gear which i'm sure you don't disagree with me on. I stand corrected about officiality (is that a word?) but my other points i stand by, performance is rubbish, reliability is rubbish. It is still a beta and that is a fact!

This place is not the official NV forum, they don;t have one, time and time again people post here believing this is the place to get answers, but those answers will come purely from other users, hence my point about Andrew should never have posted here (He was trying to help, but cannot commit himself here). NV are too multinational to offer free technical advice in forums, they are all about the money.

Remember i am in the same boat as everyone here, i want a working product though and i am prepared to wait for it, maybe i am a bit more patient being as i have sampled 3dtv play and know where it stands? And i do hope someone from NV reads your first post, if that doesn't pull at the strings, nothing will.

This is just said ! I just both a 3D TV (Panasonic VT20) and there is no soft release by NVidia. The 3D Play was one of the main reasons to buy an 3D compatible TV.

what are you WTFing about?
The fact that THIS IS RIDICULOUS?
or the fact that Nvidia still aren't letting us know why they deceived us?
Or when they are planning on breaking the next release date?

So what's the best move to get 3D gaming on my new Samsung PS50C680 Plasma 3D TV? I have an Nvidia GTX 275 and latest drivers but couldn't get 3DTV Play working as I don't have the 3D Vision Kit since I thought it is no longer needed on modern 3D TVs that come with the glasses and IR emitter built into the TV. Why can't Nvidia offer the software without the emitter being used as an activation dongle? As far as I've read, the emitter is not used with 3DTV Play only to activate the software to prevent piracy. Money is all Nvidia appear to be thinking about rather than using code activation for it's majority of graphics card customers like myself.

I'm not familar with ATI's range of cards, but as the 6000 series is the latest, do they come with 3D drivers already for free, is this their HD3D? What then would iZ3d/Tridef be used for? For upscaling 2D-3D? Do ATI drivers not do this, are either full native 3D definition like on Blu-rays? Are games natively processed in 3D or just converted 2D to 3D? My set has 2D-3D conversion I can use for free on any source but it's not that good in my eyes after wtaching Avatar 3D movie.

My card seams fast enough in 2D although have had problems, I like maximum quality settings. I tried red-blue glasses 3D with Nvidia but it slows my framerates right down. Perhaps this would happen with 3DTV Play too, so if 3DTV Play isn't going to be released, I'll be looking at an ATI card to get 3D gaming and would like maximum resolution and speed with max quality settings but don't want to spend >£200 after spending £1000 on plasma telly, xmas etc, preferably £100. I just got GTX275 earlier this year for over £200, but they're changing all the time. I'm not bothered about HDMI audio unless superior to my X-Fi card, I do have an HDMI amplifier that appears to give better sound on SPDIF PCM 2-channel than the analogue multi-channel but found this is because it's processing it with the equalisation from calibration with microphone and doesn't do it on the analogue inputs so I tweak the card's EQ settings instead. Perhaps HDMI would sound good then, but may reduce game performance not having full EAX processing etc. unless the graphics cards can do hardware sound processing now - but then my amp can't process 3D and I'd have to buy another splitter like for my Blu-ray to pass audio to amp and picture to TV simultaneously, although splitter was cheap on ebay and works fine. Wish HDMI didn't keep changing speeds all the time, should have had a higher bandwidth to begin with then wouldn't have to keep throwing away expensive amps just to pass 3D signals, not that I'm bothering as got a splitter instead of paying another £300 for a new amplifier and throwing mine in the wheely bin.

I think my choice is between the £200 6870 and £150 6850, will have to look at specs/reviews see if 6850 is fast enough and any other differences between them. My Nvidia card is considered old now anyway, wheely bin food when it's out my PC, lol!

Forget it, ain't gonna happen. Both nvidia and ATI offer only low resolution non 1-to-1 pixel mapping for 3d gaming. This is due to the HDTV folks commitment to the inadequate HDMI 'a' standard (i.e. single link). The only way to get full resolution, full framerate 3D gaming on a full sized display is through either display port 1.2, or dual link HDMI type 'B'. Latest reports are that the HDTV folks are going to avoid these interfaces in future products for years to come. So full quality 3D gaming will remain only a pipe dream for at least the next five years, probably more.

Read up that ATI/AMD just use a third party company (IZ3D/TRIDEF) that perhaps I can install and try with my existing GTX 275 card so going to have a go with that, unless it still needs 3D enabled in the drivers, have to find instructions. Otherwise, I'll just wait until either company releases 3D software included with their card and buy that as that's all I want, something plug and play!

If I buy the 3D Vision Kit (£124.99 at PC World) would I be able to use the glasses in the kit instead of the Samsung PS50C680 TV's glasses and drive the TV directly at 120Hz frame-sequential so get 1080p-60Hz per eye, 60fps? Manual states in 3D section:

"Frequency" displays the frequency (60Hz only) when the resolution is set to PC.

Does that mean 60Hz per eye (120Hz total) or 30Hz per eye (60Hz total)?

Maximum supported resolution is 1920x1080p 24/30/50/60Hz - is this per eye, so input can be 1920x1080p 48/60/100/120Hz in 3D mode?
