So guys I have been waiting to upgrade my PC to get 3d Vision support. I'm having problems picking out a monitor seeing as how there are so many options and everyone seems to have different opinions across reviewing sites..
I would like to either something in the 24-27" range. Either a 24" that I can run in tri-monitor-portrait and landscape, or a nice 27". Currently the PC I'm building is a i7-4790k with GTX970 (going to get another 970 for SLI very soon). I would like to play some games in 3d (WoW, LoL, DOTA2) and most the FPS in 2d I think. Hopefully watch a lot of 3d movies too.
Should I opt for a GTX980 instead of the GTX970SLI and SLI the GTX980 later?
Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks.

I think the Asus VG278HE is the best 3d monitor, I own one myself and have heard from reviews and other folks saying that it is the best, probably because its 3d vision 2 and less ghosting. I have no regrets at all making this purchase. As for the video card, I am running a 780 ti classified, I run every game just fine in 3d with max settings, except for cpu intensive games because I have an older i7 920 oc to 3.5 ghz, its probably a bottleneck to my card. I think some people on this forum recommend doing SLI with the 970's

Also to mention, I did purchase a 3d projector and played around with it for about a week before returning it. I felt that my monitor was better, although much smaller screen, it felt like it had more depth and playing at higher resolution fit my needs more because I play racing sims. The toyification effect looked better to me on the monitor also.

You've got a few options.
There's the ROG Swift PG278Q. It's the highest resolution of all 3D monitors (at 1440p), and it's 27 inches. The downsides are a significant number of people are having issues getting it to work well in 3D, particularly with SLI. Also, as it is a higher resolution you'll need significantly more GPU power to run games on it.
Another is the VG278H (I have this, and recommend it), and the VG278HE. They're pretty similar, but the H comes with a built-in emitter and glasses, whereas the HE does not. You'll have to buy a separate 3D Vision kit for around $100 with the HE, and stock is hard to find right now (though we've been told that should be improving in the next few weeks).
I don't know much about your options for 24 inch monitors.
You can (and really should) also consider a projector. The massive increase in screen size is great, and it's not too expensive. You will be limited to 720p with a projector, however this isn't as problematic as it sounds. 720p 3D on a projector looks absolutely fantastic, and will definitely be the best option for movies in particular. I own both a projector and a monitor, but after getting the projector I've barely used the monitor at all.

As for the games you want to play, you should be aware that not every game works perfectly in 3D. WoW works (dynamic shadows must be disabled). From what I can find online, LoL works well except for the health bars, which are at screen depth (not 3D). This should be fairly playable though. Sounds like DOTA 2 is a mess. However there are still a great many games that work (and look amazing) in 3D, largely thanks to the work of the community here. You can find the fixes (and a big list of all the fixed games) here.

A single 970 will perform quite well in most games, though SLI definitely brings significant benefits to performance. The high price difference to go up to the 980 isn't really worth it.
Regarding that second 970, it's rumoured that AMD's new cards will have excellent price/performance/power usage. You may want to wait for them to be released, as they may force nVidia to drop the price on the 970 further.

I was considering the ROG swift myself. Gsync and 144hz is nice for games that don't work in 3D, and the extra resolution's always good. Do note thought that in order to keep everything in sync with Light Boost and the glasses 3D vision works at 120hz, and you're only going to "see" @ 60hz. However, all the issues it's having with 3D Vision + SLI and screen artifacts caused me to loose interest.
If you're eyeing that one, research it heavily.

Do note thought that in order to keep everything in sync with Light Boost and the glasses 3D vision works at 120hz, and you're only going to "see" @ 60hz. However, all the issues it's having with 3D Vision + SLI and screen artifacts caused me to loose interest.
I think I'm going to end up getting the ROG Swift. I haven't seen anything but good reviews on it, it just looks like a powerhouse. The only negative thing I've seen so far is that the TN panel has bad vertical viewing angles. I would of rather gone to IPS but apparently the refresh rates and response times aren't there yet..
Going to keep digging on the problems of it, hopefully it's a fixable driver issue?

If you go with the Swift, I would suggest also going with the GTX 980 instead. The extra pixels are pretty demanding in current stuff, and later SLI 980 is probably a good choice.
I'd be pretty cautious about that monitor if you want to game in 3D though- a lot of people are having problems and there are apparently screen artifacts that are only visible in 3D. Possibly manufacturing defects, not clear.

Right now I don't think I'd go higher than 1080p with SLI 970.

I would really advise against the ROG Swift. It sounds good in theory (and 2D reviews are fairly positive), but there really have been a lot of people having trouble in 3D. SLI doesn't seem to work for most people (and for 1440p 3D, you're going to need SLI), and there have been many reports here of screen artefacts in 3D.

I jumped over to the ROG forums and saw a lot of good reviews & what looks like the same group of people complaining 'their' Swift wasn't working 100%. A lot of people have problems with SLI in general.
