Head mount similar to TrackIR? Thought this forum might have the info..
With my current setup, TIR isn't as feasible.
What I'm looking for is something that can act like TIR that supports at least 1024x768 resolution. It doesn't even have to do 3d....2d is fine.
Because of my setup, there is no way I could effectively use TIR without having lots of issues. I was hoping that there was something I can use. The only thing I can think of some type of headmount.
I play Falcon 4.0 Allied Forces and find myself at a disadvantage not being able to use TIR. Any advise is welcome. Thanks!
PS> The reason I chose that particular resolution is because it's what I play F4AF now.

Hi (and thx again :) )
I think most ppl use the TrackIR http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir with PC monitors, but if You use Head Mounted Displays then they have some degree of feadtracking built in:
http://www.vuzix.com/iwear/products_vr920.html (640*480)
http://www.tdvision.com/tdvisor.php (1024 x 768 XGA or 720p HD 1280 x 720p)
I haven't tried them but they can display stereoscopic 3D also.
There are some free programs f.ex. Cam2pan which uses ones webcam to track ones head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uYMn4j6400.
I've tried it but TrackIR is better. You can get it from this russian forum:

Not sure this works with pc games but it looks interesting:

The headtracking is resolution indepedent.
I've tried a lot of flight combat demos but I could not find a Falcon 4 demo.

The reason I would have issues with TIR is because basically I sit about 7-8 feet from my monitor (see sig), relaxing in my recliner with a wireless keyboard/mouse. I'm pretty sure because of this setup that I couldn't get TIR to work like I would like. Because of this, alot of setups, even the DIY ones, might be extremely hard to setup and probably wouldn't work very effectively.
That's why I was thinking of a headmount-type system.
You won't find a demo for F4AF. It's only $20 nowadays anyway. It's not for the feint of heart. You'll be practicing for a little while before you even learn how to fire weapons much less blow something up lol. The learning curve is extremely high.

The trackir plugs into the usb and has a cable that's 4-5 feet long. Maybe there's extension usb cables, I don't know. But it doesn't have to be right in front of you, for me it works at a 20-30 degreen angle to the side as well. You could use a usb extension cord if they exist and mount it on something next to the recliner a little to your side.
F4AF has a 2d bumpit though, when you move your head it just switches like when you press the buttons, I didn't like that at all. It's not like you're looking around. And yeah, it takes 30 minutes just to start the damn plane. haha
P.S I can't type kockpit, it keeps changing to bumpit
