You must be using some weird visual effects which beats your performance. I have weaker gear then you and I run 1440p and I get smooth gameplay at 60fps most of the time. Try to play with options because I had this feeling that this game is really well optimized so I think you can get a lot more then you getting right now.

Oh, yeah, it was that, now that you say it. Last year I had done tweaks to the game files to increase the detail level to a quality higher than maximum. That eats the CPU usage in 3D (I also had increased the FOV, I think). Lowering detail to High (I'll try restoring the original Very High to see if performance is good) made the game be at 44fps. And then lowering shadows to High (I don't remember if I modified the Very High setting) put the game at 60fps. Sometimes at 56 or 57 fps, but this is a lot better.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Something similar happened to me in The Witcher 2 some time ago. I used a grass mod that increased a lot the grass distance (at the highest LOD, a loooot more distance than max grass distance in TW3, moving with the wind, etc), but I was still getting good fps in 2D. Then I enabled 3D, and bam, 15fps per eye (due to CPU).
I wonder how can fps be that much worse than half the fps. 60fps in 3D is usually a lot less demanding for the CPU than 120fps in 2D.

I also use Mods even for games with incredible looking graphic like Witcher 3. They are only changing quality of the textures or adds some extra effects.
I remember that config change which increased rendering distance in Witcher 3 - that was instant beat down for my system. Only using 4K Texture Mod at the moment for Fallout 4 and Witcher 3.
Din`t find any texture enhancements for MGS:TPP thou. Did you get some visual improvements for it ?

I only have Ground Zeroes. I modified the "data_02\Fox\Scripts\Gr\gr_init_dx11.lua" file (after unpacking the "data_02.g0s" file and packing it after the tweak). I disabled FXAA and motion blur for the highest settings, for example.
The bad performance guilty settings must be these:
settingName = "PluginModel",
{ name = "ExtraHigh", RejectionLengthBias=64.0 },
settingName = "PluginClone",
{ name = "ExtraHigh", RejectionLengthBias=250.0 },
Those are the default values for ExtraHigh, but I have 200 and 500 respectively in my current file. I don't remember if I changed other things.

this fix is running great on my system but the only problem I have is the FOV. I tried looking around but it looks like the fixes interfere with the 3D fix. was wondering if anyone knows another way around getting 90 FOV? the default is far too near for my liking
