Is stereo bad for CRT monitors?
From another thread:
...Years back I used the sterioscopic glasses on a CRT and thought it was great, but that big monitor died on me awhile back...

Sounds like this happens a lot.
I'm just about to build my new Nvidia-based system and am looking forward to a bit of 3D stereo after being without it for a long time (Ati /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' /> ). My monitors are 24" widescreen models that are quite hard to find now, and it would be inconvenient to say the least if one or more of them died. So, can anyone tell me if the page-flipping/shutter glasses method risks killing CRT monitors any more than normal (ie, non-stereo) usage?

Hell NO!

It does NOT!

There is 0 diference between stereo and non stereo usage accept you may use a little higher refresh rate, but which is well within the monitor's parameters.

CRTs just have a tendency to die. Over the past 8 years, I have had 7 CRTs die on me. 2x 14", 3x 19", 2x 21". That had nothing what so ever to do with stereo.

^ sigh of relief

I wasn't sure if the passges I quoted were referring to the natural tendency of CRTs to die, or to death by unnatural causes. I must say, that is a relief - these monitors would be a real pain to replace, and even more painful to carry up the stairs (they weigh 42kg each /bloated.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':X' /> ).

Well, you and I must be at opposite extremes of the UK's monitor death statistics - you've lost 7 in 8 years, I've lost 1 in about 12 years.

I'm sure that's no comfort to you. Sorry. If it's any consolation, I've probably just jinxed myself. /ermm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ermm:' />
