Going to check this out nearest weekend! TY!
There is an upcomming game using the cry engine for real 3d. Its Star Citizen and it already supports real 3d (no fake) using the cry engine.
Here is a link on how to enable real 3d:
https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/49857/nvidia-3d-vision-support/p1
it uses the same settings as described on the cry engine page:
http://docs.cryengine.com/display/SDKDOC2/Sandbox+Stereo+Usage+and+Manipulation
so there might be hope for crysis 3?
Ok, so I followed the link and added the user.cfg with the variables specified and sure enough Crysis 3 is in real 3D vision. I just got the game today and the only settings I have turned off are motion blur and lens flares. There are some pretty nasty issues, number one being the weapon flashes constantly and convergence shifting especially when you move close to a wall. Doing that actually makes the weapon look better. You'll notice that I took most of these screen shots in stealth mode which renders your weapon pretty much invisible. Or I went into tactical vision mode so that weapon goes away completely. On the bright side when it looks good (which is often), it is pretty stunning. Convergence is locked like before with the fake 3d, but the world opens up like it should and you know it is the real deal.

Wow, that's pretty huge! On one hand I'm excited to know the engine is finally capable of true 3D, on the other hand I cringe at the thought of replaying that (IMHO) mediocre game.

Hate to be the guy who have to spoil it all but this is old "fake" 3D (hell I hate this description). It`s made by game`s engine and created from buffered frame not separate view. Its like compatibility mode we all know not the Real Stereo 3D.
To play with this thou - you can download Crytec`s software and setup your preferred settings. There is a lot to do in there. Visuals and 3D.

No, I think Bronte is on to something there. Those do not look like CM to me. There isn't any haloing around the weapons for example.

Well - as we all seen it is a very good CM but still it is not the real thing. I was playing like this all the time and after some time you can get really tired but this whole halo on the grass and surroundings. The depth can be greatly adjusted by this software which I proved in one of the old posts but it still will got this weird feeling of "fake" geometry. Like seeing parts of environment totally flat (boxes, machines, trees...) at far distance or on downside view.

Well, this is definitely reprojection stereo ala Crytek. It's quite easy to detect, look at the halos(repeated backgrounds) from nearby objects.
I must say, that Nvidias CM looks better and has less artefacts.
Watch Dogs and ACU with Compatibility Mode are much more compelling experiences.
Would be nice to have a comparison with Crysis3 Crytek3d vs Nvidia CM3d.

You can see plenty of halo on trees on that screenshot from outside as well as flat trees and other parts of that train wagon ( metal rods for example ). When you see it in motion it is real pain and tiring.
Its still playable (although I have better settings for that) but I think that Far Cry 4 CM is far better then any of those.
Edit: your post popped out before mine "2eyed64" but I agree totally with you. Any CM I`ve seen is better then crytek`s.

I can see many flat objects on screenshots - one of the main reason brains are "crying" when playing CM or things like that. I saw no geometry 3D or i'm blind guy.
It seems engine renders some objects correctly, but gives many drawbacks - Psycho picture is on of them >_<

IIRC it hides the weapon but brings it back when you use the scopes.

for the real 3D ofc

weapon didn`t bother me as much as the flat objects and halo - since I am mostly focused on environment. Also I am a lot more stealthy so I was mostly cloaked.
I was also trying to force game engine to render through NVidia drivers by using 3Dmigoto but didn`t work. Somehow that was possible in Crysis 2. Remember being able (or trying) to switch off the shadows in Stereo 3D.

Actually, there was plenty of haloing around Psycho but not all the time. I tried to get screens where it wasn't there. I noticed after I finished playing that my eyes were majorly tired and head was aching which doesn't usually happen. I'm thinking all the artifacting and the fact I couldn't adjust anything except for depth caused it. I don't know so i guess I will defer to the folks who have spent more time plsying around with the game and settings. Maybe it could be called 2.75D instead of 2.5?

Right-o, I see what you are seeing there now. Definitely agree it's fake 3D. They have a different take on the haloing that is harder for me to pick up on static shots.
Also, it's worth remembering that people playing this on projector have a better experience than those on monitors. Andysonofbob and I had a very long conversation about this on Crysis2.

The upshot is that limited separation works on projector because of big screen at distance, so the haloing is minimized (fewer pixels to cover).
