Hey guys. Finally decided to make an account so I can post here. I've been using 3D Vision since 2013 and thankfully Helix fixes always work for every game I've played so far. I find it very ironic that this game which natively supports and is actually advertised as 3D Vision Ready with a rating of "excellent" is the first game where I can't get 3D Vision to run correctly. Not sure I can bring anything new to the table but so far what I've noticed is a fresh install of drivers without touching anything else gives the best results so long as you do not touch any in game settings or tweak anything in the game profile itself. The game will work for about 30 minutes to an hour and then will crash with the event log showing nvwgf2umx.dll crashed with a 0xc000005. Once it crashes all shaders and shadows are broken. No number of restarts or tweaks will fix it. Enabling/disabling 3D, SLI or no SLI, etc. The only thing that seems to fix the issue with the shadows and shaders is a fresh install of the NVIDIA drivers. After a fresh install everything works FLAWLESSLY with max settings (except advanced settings, I leave all off for performance issues). Only issue is the crash after a few minutes of playing. I have never experienced any significant performance drops or the "3D disable" issue. I tried backreading through this thread but was wondering if I missed a fix for nvwgf2umx.dll crashing. I have yet to try the MP3 profile and deinstalling NV Experience, will do this next. Thanks for taking the time to read this long post of mine. Rig is in the sig.
I'm having the same issues nvwgf2umx.dll error regardless of drivers and OSes installed 2D or 3D same error I have given up till NVidia or Rockstar fixes the game due to save system this game is unplayable the problems need to addressed.

Hey Beastrider, welcome aboard. The NVidia nvwgf2umx.dll driver error has had no specific fix that I'm aware of, having mentioned that issue in my earliest communication with Rockstar. Since I always use the exact same driver, I'm able to tell that each update from Rockstar in my own experience has made 3D gameplay increasingly more stable to the point that I now only have very occasional errors such as 2D shadow rendering. My game was already pretty stable prior to the latest online 1.27 update. It had been suggested very early on in this thread by a couple of posters, that certain parts of the map seemed more prone to break 3D than others. Whilst still not totally stable, I could still go to certain areas where 3D would never break. All very strange. I'd do a repeated circuit of the area, giving the game engine the time to load up more of the map. After a few circuits my frame counter went up at least 10fps without fail. Then I knew that I was good to go. The latest update has increased stability for me, but with the mission marker now being rendered incorrectly and some micro-stuttering having been introduced as a result of that update. The micro-stuttering disappears for me after 10 minutes or so of driving, so I'm guessing that it's perhaps a map loading issue once again. I'm playing on a DX11 setting, with all graphical options on ultra or high including grass, but I haven't touched the advanced graphics options which in my view make comparatively little visual difference. Excellent sig btw, except you may want to include your current graphics driver version. That little nugget of information is sadly becoming increasingly important of late.

guys....for the markers at wrong depth use this fix: https://s3.amazonaws.com/dhr/GTA.V.zip This also fix the sun glow. Disable MSAA. Maybe is better to make a helixblog page. For 3D drops or crashes, this solution works for me....now i don't have those issues (maybe for other still this don't work): I use the 350.12 driver and imported all nvidia profiles for 353.06 driver.

Thanks DHR. Appreciate the tip regarding the mission marker issue. I have to confess that I've not noticed a sun glow rendering issue myself, but then maybe I've not looked closely enough. ;) I hardly have any 3D drops at all now, which makes a change. This game looks so good that you could simply drive around and just admire the scenery and not actually play it.

@zig11727 Sorry to hear about your on-going problems with this game. I wish that there was something that I could suggest. Right from the start, GTA V appears to have been very system specific in so far as some gamers having had good luck with stable 3D right off the bat, to the bafflement of everyone else at the time, so I can totally appreciate your frustration. I had actually closed my ticket with Rockstar some time ago, but I did explicitly mention as a final comment that there are obviously still some major problems with the newest cards combined with the newest drivers which neither Rockstar nor Nvidia have comprehensively managed to address. I hope that any future patch brings you some better results.
Excellent sig btw, except you may want to include your current graphics driver version. I know it's not a driver issue as I've reinstalled drivers with DDU. I am upgrading my SSD soon so I'll be making a fresh install of OS and GTA on it, I doubt there will be any difference though. When in 2D I haven't experienced a crash but it could be due to not playing very long in 2D. I just can't stand 2D when 3D is so beautiful and it works for about an hour a time. I'm seriously considering reinstalling drivers every hour or so every time a crash happens just to experience the 3D. I don't have or probably did not notice the Sun glow issue. I am running with x4 MSAA and will try taking it out and run the fix. My 3D doesn't drop though, the only issue I have left is the crashing with the error I specified, I will add this fix to the list of things to try. Thanks!

@BeastRider Welcome to the forum! The file attached contain a fix for markers and sun glow. Disable MSAA, MSAA enabled introduce others issues. The suggestion with the imported profiles and use of the 350.12 driver may help with the crashes or 3D drop out....works for me at least.

@BeastRider You're welcome for the welcome. This is not really an answer as I'm not sure that I have one for you, but I can offer an overview. Crashes to the desktop with nvwgf2umx.dll included in the error log appeared to be common enough shortly after GTA V's release in many people's experience. From what I could tell viewing numerous websites, it occured in 2D, not just in 3D. I smugly assumed that I'd have a better shot with an older driver, as GTA V is hardly a new game with it's initial release having been on console. Let's assume that your current driver, after using a DDU has been installed absolutely perfectly. The fact that initially, all but a few 3D gamers could get this game working regardless of how old or new their driver was or how relatively stable it was, indicated that the game itself was inherently unstable. It's true that some managed to hit on the right combination of setup and settings, but they appeared to be the exceptions. If people far more knowledgeable about stereoscopy here than I, couldn't get stable 3D, then it was quite fair to assume that Rockstar technicians themselves would be struggling too if they decided to try to run GTA V using commercial rather than professional GPUs along with their respective setups, for what that's worth. The only thing that I could suggest to you as a last resort, is that because you are using relatively old GPUs, as I am, that you could get away with experimenting with even older drivers, but at the obvious loss of all of the added utilities that come with newer drivers. That's assuming though, that you're absolutely hell bent on getting this particular game working at the possible expense of the functionality of other newer games. Yeah, true 3D is just too damned good isn't it, that's the problem. May I also say that posting here, whilst still at work, simply means that you're eminently capable of effectively multi-tasking.

@bo3b Data point incoming. Thought I'd take on the now infamous GTA V stability...CHALLENGE. A mere test..I would have passed up, but a challenge is a challenge. So after setting the benchmark to 200 iterations @ 1920x1080 with the grass setting on 2, I decided to give it a shot and lived to tell the tale. No breaks in 3D, no CTDs and no graphical anomalies. 331.82 can be considered an unofficial 3D game ready driver for GTA V, if you're still using 700 Series GPUs that is.

@mistersvin. I'm assuming everything was rendering correctly prior to Rockstar's latest patch. Is that so? Also which cards and which driver are you currently using? Any chance you could update your sig, unless there are technical issues preventing you from editing your profile.

@mistersvin At this stage getting GTA V working successfully in 3D sounds like a tough ask on a newer driver, especially if you're wanting Witcher 3 in 3D as well. You could be waiting indefinitely for NVidia to try to correct any issues in GTA V. I decided that I simply couldn't have my cake and eat it as well, and just accepted that Witcher 3 was beyond my reach, given my current setup. GTA V definitely works on older drivers such as mine, and in theory you still have old enough cards that would have a decent shot at getting it to work flawlessly, albeit with a relative loss in performance in comparison to newer drivers which would probably mean turning down some graphical settings. I guess the choice is there, to either play now or play later.
