What do you guys think of this laptop? Plus anyone know of any protective laptop bags/hard cover cas
So ive been looking to replace my laptop for a bit now and after a few months of looking i decided to get a gaming laptop. The reason im looking for a gaming laptop is because i was originally planning on building a htpc type build in a small case for my living room to use with my 3D vision projector (Acer H5360). Since im tired of carrying my 70lb monster rig from room to room. After picking out all the parts it was going to cost me around $800 to build it. Then i was going to buy a normal laptop for about $800 range. So i decided im better off just combining to two into one. This way i got something portable, i can use daily, and game on at the same time. Plus i dont have to look at a case in my living room.
I was originally going to get a MSIgt70 with a 770m but for a few hundred more (after i customized the gt70 a bit) i came across the sager np9380-s. http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9380s-clevo-p370sm3-p-6109.html It has a 780m, 120hz 3d vision screen, and you can throw another 780m in for SLI down the line, plus it comes with a few of the upgrades i was adding to the msi one. It also doesnt have optomius so i dont have to worry about hooking it up to my 3d projector in my living room, or monitor if i want to.
Im most likely going to be purchasing it within the next week or so. So i figured there might be a few people here who game in 3D on a laptop or game on a laptop in general that might be able to throw in some input.
My 2nd question for you guys is im a truck driver for a living and tend to take my latop to work with me. When im not driving i have days here and there where i will sit for hours on end (which is another reason a gaming laptop might come in handy). So ive been looking on amazon for a sturdy backpack to carry it around in but im not having much luck. Mostly im just looking for something that will hold a 17in laptop, has padding for when im driving down bumpy roads, and has a few pockets to hold other random things. Mostly im just looking for something that can take a beating here and there.
Lastly that laptop comes with 3D Vision 2 glasses. Most of you know there not the most durable things in the world. Ive actually broken a pair before by hitting them with my elbow, which cracked the lenses. There is absolutely no way they would survive on there own, and at $120 a pop im looking for a good protective glasses case. Most of the ones ive seen are for reading glasses, which are just to small to fit the bulky 3d vision glasses in. So if anyone of you wear glasses or know of a good brand or something to buy let me know. I just need a hard case. Thanks to anyone who replies!

Everything looks good but the ram but I'm sure it won't matter much considering the rest of the specs. I should have waited to get this lol. I really wanted that fingerprint reader when I was searching. But didn't see one with a 3D webcam AND the reader. Signing in and out of sites is annoying. But, I think it is a good buy.
When you get it, play pcsx2 and ffxii and do Basche's 3rd quickening and get Dolphin and play SMBWii on 1080p res while having efb > ram enabled. Tell me the results so that I can compare. Also try a PC game like SF4 with antialiasing on max while 3D is on and tell me if you get any slowdown.
I do not recommend taking expensive things like this in public. It's too expensive and gaming laptops are not known for their battery life.
When I watch 3D, I have my glasses on under the 3D glasses and they fit just fine.

Thanks for replying. Whats wrong with the ram? im used to pc ram, so i really dont know the difference when it comes to laptops.
I will definitely be trying out alot of games when i get it. So ill post some gaming benches.
The only place i will be taking it out in public is to work. If im not in my truck with it, the doors are locked and im surrounded by other truck drivers while i go into the office or something. Truck drivers tend to have alot of respect for other peoples trucks and know better not to touch things so im not to worried about anyone stealing it. Battery life isnt that big of a deal to me since i can plug it into my cig lighter and use it (plus side of having 6 batterys in a semi compared to 1 in a car). I read online it will last like 2 hours non gaming which is good enough for me.

Normally I would discourage anyone from using a gaming laptop for 3D because there tend to be too many compromises required. Your use case of being a driver is different though, and makes that portability more important.
That laptop seems perfectly good to me. I'm not worried about the RAM, 16G is plenty for gaming. RAM speed is essentially irrelevant at the 1600 level, it doesn't impact anything enough to change.
780M is a mild concern, M parts are on the weak side, usually lower bin desktop parts. No real way around it, and being able to SLI later is a big plus. At the native screen res of 1080p, there will be some games the 780M are not going to be able to run smoothly in 3D. It's quite a bit slower than a desktop 680 for example.
The only part that I really think you should change, is to add an SSD boot drive. Keep your 750Mb HD for big storage, but adding an SSD is easily worth the extra money.

What I meant about the ram was that it uses ddr3 ram instead of gddr5 or ddr3L. But other components of the laptop will probably make up for it and you probably won't tell a difference.

Yeah a 3D laptop wasnt what i was looking for. But for the price compared to the MSI and Asus laptops its a pretty good deal since im really not paying anything extra for it. So its more of just an extra to me. Most of my gaming time it will be hooked into my 720p projector, so the 780m should be plenty performance for that in 3D. Then when i decide to game on the 1080p screen i got no issues with turning down a few settings to get to at least 40fps in 3D. Im not really expecting to be maxing anything out with a solid 60fps in 3D.
Being able to go SLI is a big plus to me. Im planning on grabbing another 780m like a year down the road when the prices are cheaper and i need more performance. But having that option to not be locked in from the start is a great thing.
I plan on adding an SSD on my own. I have two 256GB crucial m4's in my main rig that i bought on sale for $150 each. They want %225 for the same drive off there site. So i figured im best to just get it and install it myself when i can snag one on sale and save myself the $75.

I have this laptop for about a month now with a dual GTX780M setup overclocked to 980/2850 MHz (there's more headroom still) and i7-4900MQ.
I am very happy with it; build quality is very good with a soft rubber coating of all exteriour surfaces. Keyboard is a joy to use and has variable colour backlight (not as fancy as Alienware though, but very good). There's ample performance for 3D at FHD Resolution, and the 3D effect is great even on the small screen, because you tend to sit close to it anyway. I'm getting a score of well over 9000 (think 9600 or so) in 3DMark Firestrike non-extreme, quite a bit higher then what is claimed for the Titan setup.
Only (very minor) gripe is that is has a clickpad with a strange sticky texture, which is not a great pleasure to use. Of course, this is irrelevant for the main purpose of this laptop since probably no one will seriously consider not using a mouse when gaming.

glad to hear from someone who has the same laptop. Benchmarks and reviews for that particular laptop are really hard to find. the click pad thing is nice to know, but i dont think it would bother me much. I usually game with a 360 controller or my g700. So i would only use it here and there to browse the web.

Actually, I think this is really the only notebook worth considering for 3D purposes at the moment, since there are only a handful of others that I know of (primarily Alienware 17 and ASUS G75 and G750), and all of them are single GPU. This is the only one that offers both SLI and 3D Vision.

I know laptop users are going to bite my head off but I really dont think they are good enough for 3D gaming on high-end recent games.
120HZ - double CPU
120HZ - double GPU
Like GPU "might" not be an issue since you can upgrade to SLI but I really worry about CPU of any laptop rig. I know some laptop user is going to say "I play just fine". But they havent compared to a desktop. 60FPS in 3D at max settings is not unusal for a $800-$1000 desktop. Overclocking CPU on a laptop is out of the question.

It works just fine on laptops. I play everything on high with 3D on. If there is a slowdown, disabling antialiasing usually fixes everything. The laptop the tc is looking at is more powerful than mine so I know that he wouldn't have many problems. Not to mention the graphics card and processor are upgradeable on that laptop.

I can't imagine 3d has a huge CPU hit. The AI isn't working any faster, it might make some physics (not physix) sims a little more intensive, but what else?

Not double but its pretty substantial. Its alot more then ai/physics. Its kind of the base of a game not to mention shadows, lighting, etc.

Benchmarks taken with same/similiar setup but different cpu's.
Well i read bit online about the 4700mq with 2 780m's in SLI. What i have gathered is the 4800mq is better for games like BF3 that are really CPU dependent since the clock is higher. The frame difference isnt much but it gives a more steady framerate with less dips. But the 4700mq holds its ground too and has no problems in other games. Its $185 upgrade to the 4800mq, if it was like $100 i would probably go for it. But $185 is a little steep for a 300hz boost.

I just got this laptop yesterday. Compared to the Toshiba one:
PCSX2:
-All games that had non-unfinished emulation slowdown no longer have the slowdowns. Except Basche's 3rd limit break on FFXII. But it is faster though. The Sager 9570, this scene has no slowdowns at all. So it's close. Waiting for that 880M with 8gb of gddr5 ram and everything will be right with the world.
-The newer driver dx11 spasm bug still occurs
DOLPHIN:
-Games that don't use EFB>Ram are very fast (no slowdowns)
-Games that do use EFB>Ram are very slow because the devs sillily removed a feature that made it fast recently.
PC:
-3DVision with high powered games like RE6 are very fast with no slowdown at all on max settings!
-That means EVERY normal PC game without 3D is also very fast with no slowdowns.
-No crashes with any of the newer drivers
-GFE still sucks

Ive actually broken a pair before by hitting them with my elbow, which cracked the lenses. There is absolutely no way they would survive on there own, and at $120 a pop im looking for a good protective glasses case. Most of the ones ive seen are for reading glasses, which are just to small to fit the bulky 3d vision glasses in. So if anyone of you wear glasses or know of a good brand or something to buy let me know. I just need a hard case. Thanks to anyone who replies!
