does 3DTV Play support Windowed mode? also, what about SBS?
Hi all,
Noob here on the forums (but not in PC building / gaming).
=================
To make it short: does 3DTV Play support windowed mode? And (a bit less important) what about Side-by-side mode?
=================
The details:
I have a Sony HX805 3DTV and recently got 2x GTX570 in SLI. No LCD monitor AT ALL yet (using my LCD TV as display for now).
Downloaded and tried the 3DTV Play software for 14 days, and could not use stereoscopic 3D in windowed mode, even though I tried several driver versions (266.x, 270.x, 275.x). No option for windowed mode was available at the nVidia Control Panel.
I would love to use windowed mode (3DS Max, emulators..) and if it is supported by 3DTV Play, I would buy it.
Any info on this?
Info on 3DTV Play in general is very scarce to come by.

You're out of luck, your Sony is incompatible with any Nvidia software that supports native resolution, full framerate 3D gaming. If you go with Nvidia, you'll be stuck with low rez, scaled 1280x720 3DTV Play.
3DTV Play is designed for the casual gamer so it puts convenience over quality, resulting in low rez image quality in 3D games. Either ditch your Sony for a native resolution capable TV, or go with eirther TriDef or iZ3D. These drivers offer full quality native resolution 3D gaming through side by side mode, 3DTV Play does not.

Thank you for the quick reply. I am aware that 3DTV Play uses the hdmi 1.4 standard mode and thus 720p "only" (for 60 fps).
But 8xAA 720p is far better than anything I get from my PS3, and most importantly for me, Gamecube and PS2 games look stellar on this resolution. I know 1080p would be even better but I can surely live with 720p 60fps 8xAA goodness.
During my 14-day 3DTV Play trial, the only emu that runs in true fullscreen (and thus the only one I managed to run in 3D) was the Gamecube one. Awesome stuff. But I wanted to use all other emus and even 3ds max in 3d, and they're all windowed applications. The emus use fake fullscreen.
For PC gaming like FPSes etc I plan to get a 3DVision monitor eventually (even for 3ds max) but emu games are better with a gamepad on TV, and I don't need 1080p for them. I can even emulate the SNES in 3d (different depth for different layers, It' pretty cool).
So I still need to know if 3DTV Play can give me windowed mode stereoscopic 3d.

Also, another note:
Windowed apps don't change the desktop resolution at all. So If I'm running 1920x1080 60Hz desktop on the TV and open up a windowed app, will I remain at 60Hz or will the refresh be reduced to 24Hz?

The "8xAA" part is meaningless when the images are scaled from 720P to 1080P, doesn't help at all, it's the 'scaled' part that causes poor image quality. The fact that you are used to something even worse than 720P on a 1080P screen doesn't mitigate the superiority of native resolution gaming.

Yes, I hate upscaling myself. I won't even think about denying the fact that true 1080p is way better.
I am really picky with graphics quality, trust me.
But since my TV cannot give me 1080p 60Hz cristal clear 3D, I guess I'll have to settle for 720p for now. During 3D mind you. For normal gaming I am more than eager to play on true full res with all the quality options maxed out, always.
Emu stands for emulator (PS2, Gamecube etc). And my main problem relates to those. Because for native PC games I can simply settle for the 720p resolution and 3DTV picks up the fullscreen signal.
90% of emulators run in a window.
