you forget that in 5 years they can come back to the subject and yet again sell HDR 3D tv´s i don´t give a fuck if they stop making 3d movies. Games is and has been the holy grail of 3D. I can play metro series till the end of times :D Allthough i enjoy 3D movies and always prefer over 2D but what the fuck do i know :D i just hope the directors would find their eyes and stop saying converted 3d is just as good. everybody here knows it´s just about money. like everything is nowdays in this shit hole we call earth

I think its because they make so many of the same TV. I remember hoping they would spend just a $1 to upgrade their HDMI chips to 2.0, but i realized that it would cost them a million dollars if they produce a million of those TVs, only a few of which would be used for HDMI 2.0 at the time, probably not even close to worth it for them. I wish they would make a "gamer edition" 3DTV, but not produce so many of them. I'm glad there is that petition though! I think as more people experience the 3D in VR, they will start to be able to put together that they can play all their games in "VR-like" 3D if they really want to. We can help that process by educating people. Nvidia can help too, supporting 3D mode within VR headsets, that could help with sales of Nvidia cards.

I think we need to separate the 3d TV's designed for movies from 3d Monitors designed for gaming. -3D TV's offer supper crappy 3d movies with low separation and convergence that forever branded the 3D technology as a gimmick in people's minds -3D Monitors offer supper immersive 3D gaming with as much separation and convergence as you want adding crystal quality and depth to your games which ruin your life because you can no longer go back to shitty 2D and the lack of support for this amazing technology makes you lonely, depressed and suicidal

@Payne-TK Im not sure if i understand what you mean, but for me my 27" VG278H @1080p was underwhelming compared to my 1st gen 3D, crappy, high crosstalk, high input lag, high SDE, Sony NX711 @720p and scaled. I sold the 27". In the end i figured out that it was the higher, more true to life 2D scale of scenery that the bigger screen size delivered that made large thing even larger. I think the 2D scale acts as sort of a fixed value in your brains "algorithm" used to determine the size/distance of things. I was just thinking about this 2 days ago at a museum looking at a massive painting on the wall, wishing i could have a screen like that because of the sense of massive scale it had. Also, one trick for making 3D movies look more real we learned was increasing the separation between images so scenery at maximum separation was near your IPD. The maximum separation on a 55" 3DTV i could find in Tron for example was .5 inches! Increasing the separation pushes things back ino the screen and increases their size. Its certainly not perfect, but movies i've tried like Tintin were close to. I havne't watched a movie in awhile, but i noticed newer movies needed less of a push outward. A lot depends on your viewing distance though.

It seems very odd to me to remove 3D support, especially from a high end TV. If I was in the market for a high-end TV, there is no chance I'd get one without 3D, simply because I'd want that option in case it ever came up. But they know their market, and high-end buyers apparently don't think like that, they are looking for the newest shiny. Surely for people who have kids and want to watch blu-rays though? That's probably not the high-end market, but maybe mid-range. Nevertheless, the report of 3D's death are greatly exaggerated. You might not be getting the absolute latest TVs, but really, does that matter? We just had a brand new monitor that supports 3D Vision this year. (see other thread). That's new hardware, and there is stack upon stack upon stack of used TVs in the world that we could use for easily ten years. There there is the VR push. I'm seeing symptoms of VR backlash, and it would not surprise me for the haters to jump on VR as a 'gimmick' and try to browbeat it down as well. However, deep-pockets Facebook is not going to drop VR anytime soon. And that means that it is always possible for us to 3D inside a VR helmet. Not as good as a 4K TV or projector at present, but has potential. I'm working on a project where I should be able to allow us to play all our 3D fixes in a VR headset, including DX9 games. No timeframe, do not hold your breath, as I'm still learning, but in principle this is another 3D venue. As a general idea, we are wily and will likely come up with at least some way to play in 3D. Hell if I'm going to play in 2D, even if it is OLED and HDR. The real answer to the question of 3D's death is the same as it always has been. Does NVidia continue to support 3D Vision Automatic? And are people still making new fixes? We can argue about NVidia's limited support, but you cannot argue that there is zero support. I think we are fine for at least the next couple of years.

Is the DAMN TV MANUFACTURERS WHO "RUINED" 3D with all their CRAPPY implementations... TRUST ME, I WORKED FOR ONE OF THEM and saw first hand what it meant (they had zero clue about it). Then it was the damn Movie industry...hey let's push all movies in fake 3D... Is it a wonder they now push 4K or HDR or other crap that basically says "more pixels 'cause why not? Is the only thing we are capable of". The moment TV's MFG and Movie "industry" stars pushing VR as a content...is over folks... They'll sell the crappiest half-assed solution JUST TO GET money out it it... For them it doesn;t matter if it runs 1-2-3 years as long as they get money out of it... I swear to GOD all the SALES PEOPLE SHOULD JUST DIE!!! And let people who UNDERSTAND technology MARKET & SELL it... (Not some whimp who can't make a difference between a BIT and a BYTE)....

Maybe when the avatar sequals come out it will become more popular again. ... I dont like those movies. But it was a major factor in having those TV's come out in the first place wasn't it? And James Cameron is major proponent of 3D as well. When Nvidia pulls plug on 3Dvision I'd probably start using ATI again (and cheaper setup, or maybe not if VR takes off XD). When I was gaming in 2D I had no problem with buying a 200-300 dollar card every two years... 3Dvision made me buy a Titan XP.

I'm not sure if that new monitor should count as new. Sure, it has 240Hz, but most probably 3D only works at 100Hz and 120Hz. And it's still 1080p and TN, like tons of other monitors that we had since 2011. There are some 1440p 3D monitors too, which I consider the real advancement. I want it to be in 4K HDR monitors and use 3D and HDR at the same time. The problem is that they apparently don't want to enable 3D in IPS or VA monitors, so it looks like we would have to jump directly from TN to OLED (and there are zero announced high refresh rate OLED monitors).

8% of sales is still 8% of sales and with less and less people having a reason to upgrade, or the cash to upgrade their TV, you'd think every option that led to a sale would be supported. That said, try and find a big panel without smart features now - it's just impossible and, combined with 4k image processing, is one of the main reasons modern TVs run so slowly. But I agree with those posting that 3d gaming is really where it's at - movies are just meh. Yet how many 3d gaming monitors are still being made?
