Zelda Breath of the Wild 3D Vision Fix (Depth map based)
15 / 18
So, for some reason, Nintendo has not limited enabling VR mode to handheld mode. You can enable VR mode while docked.
As a result of this, a 3D TV or Projector can take the SBS input and allow you to play Breath of the Wild on Switch in 3D! The resulting convergence has a lot of pop-out and there is warping around the edges as it was designed for lenses, but it works and probably looks better than through the LaboVR headset!
Alternatively, GameXplain has instructions for playing it on PSVR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6Xg8GPJmqs
Can someone here with a Switch and PSVR/3d monitor/projector please give some feedback?
Its probably going to be a lot better than the cardbox setup but still not better than what you gents did through nVidia.
These negative reviews will spoil it even before it lifts of. Cant the idiots comprehend its like a test run? The Switch wasn't designed for this...Of course it will be pixelated...
I believe a more polished console is to be expected and I would definitely buy it just for Zelda!
Was nVidia involved here? The Switch runs on a nVidia GPU if i remember correctly.
Since the switch have a much larger fan base than what 3dV has(/had) it might have a steady growth if more game developers at Nintendo climb aboard.
This leaves some hope now that 3d Vision is officially a fad...

lol, of course. But the blame lies with Nintendo's cash crab of selling LaboVR and offering a VR mode on a device that can not really support it performance wise.
But hey, it's assuredly a step up from their "Virtual Boy"

The game on Labo VR is rough... really rough. But Nintendo really did this as an experiment and did not intend anyone to play the game in this mode for anything but a quick fix and curiosity.
What is interesting, however, is that the Switch can be left in its dock and the game displayed in S3D in SBS mode on 3DTVs... allowing you to play with the pro controller and not have that awful box glued to your forehead.
I am waiting for a new Switch dock to arrive to connect to my 3DTV and will post thoughts tomorrow.
In the interim, you can check out this video...

Thanks for sharing. It seems the image might be stretched? Hope it would be compensated for at a later stage if that's the case. But I doubt they're focused on 3D monitors or 3rd parties for their goal. Which might be a good thing in the long run. In the short run no one might bite and another great opportunity might blow over.

I've always liked the atmosphere Nintendo's game developers create. Especially Zelda. Hope they wont follow in 3DV's footsteps and maybe later bring us something equivalent to the Pimax 5k/8k. They could do what the guys here have been talking about. (To "VR" the Helixmod game data base). Only their own database for this matter. "Stationary" VR might become a big thing.
So much potential...and obstacles...

Well I'm only saying it because the Labo is cardboard and pricey for what it is. Plus the device itself is not up to snuff for VR.
For those that have no idea what the Labo kits are
Well I'm only saying it because the Labo is cardboard and pricey for what it is. Plus the device itself is not up to snuff for VR.
Yeah, have to agree. Overpriced for cardboard. But I hope it was some sort of a "quick fix kick starter project' and that they get the exposure they aim for. Because Nintendo jumping on the VR wagon is definitely epic news.
In the description of the video OneUp shared the link pointed to Resetera where people gave their opinions. Someone shared a link to another video which points to the Virtual Boy you were talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=639&v=qRMrZn0DhKo This guy might be on to something... =D

You could easily run this and convert to interlaced or whatever output you want with ReShade and there would be no need for a fix.

The fix that was developed here is similar to the SuperDepth3D stuff that video is referring to (the helixmod post for the old version even references it). However, the fix uses Helifax's OpenGL wrapper that integrates SuperDepth3D into a 3DVision solution. The end result is the fix has all the 3D settings tweaked nicely and it's compatible with 3DVision displays.
Did anyone check out the link I posted?
Yeah thanks man. This made me realize how many things I missed. ZeldaBOTW is a precious stereoscopic gem. (Already started my second play through.)
My personal concern is how well the Switch would perform with a 3d Display. I still think the nVidia way tops all these other methods. But as per circumstances we might not see another release of Zelda through 3DVision. So it would be great to have an alternative. Not merely for Zelda but other Nintendo franchises too.

Just by looking at the video, It doesn't even look like it's in 3D. they're basically just duplicating the image to both displays so there's no 3d stereo, or it's very minimal. I'd be really surprised if they managed to get 3D working properly. Breath of the Wild uses dynamic clipping planes which makes it incredibly difficult to apply post processing 3D to it. It took me a ton of time to get right. Even if they managed to fix that issue, which i don't think you could do using reshade it's still only going to render at half the horizontal resolution. The main reason I decided to add a bunch of code to helifax's wrapper was so that I could get it rendering in 3D at full resolution, and also reshade's performance sucked.

I'll try to get to release the update in the weekend.
