I don't remember if either of these are needed for bluray 3d, but if his computer doesn't have an emitter, he'll need to purchase 3DTVPlay for normal 3DVision stuff.

I think the slider in Power DVD is only for when you are using their 2D-3D conversion?[/quote]
no, it is used to change depth when watching 3d bluray, i can use it myself, but i have 3d vision monitor and this slider is active
Just looked at their user guide, it does work for both. Odd that it's greyed out for him, if it's not for you.
Convert 2D media to 3D
Select this option if you want CyberLink PowerDVD to convert all 2D media (2D Bluray
Discs, DVDs, video files, YouTube videos, photos) to 3D using TrueTheater 3D
when playback starts. Once enabled, you won't need to enable 3D playback every
time you want to convert 2D media.
3D scene depth: if required, use the slider to adjust the amount of 3D scene
depth on the video image, until the resulting 3D image is optimized for your
specific setup and viewing experience. The 3D scene depth slider can be used
to adjust the scene depth on both native 3D and TrueTheater 3D converted

Perhaps a DDU reinstall is in order?
Did he run the setup wizard in the control panel, I forget if they make you do that when you are not accessing their stereoscopic game drivers.
His control panel should say blue-ray something or other in it, in place of the green 3D Vision/3DTV Play logos.
You can adjust the difference of images, left and right on 3D Blu-ray. Offcourse it does not effect the rendering view port but merely on imersion.
I have Panasonic dmp-bdt500 and it has atleas that function and it work, allthough i rarely leave it anything other than the default, as i Believe it's the original mix. But it does increase depth.
