Those tempranges shows at which temperatures the panel still operates. If you add a parameter :works at 120Hz those lower templevel needs to be adjusted a lot. At 0 degrees i doubt any lcd-display will work at 120Hz (curious, could anyone try?).
Just to add a little: The temp of the display surface is usually quite a bit higher than the environment. I just checked my iz3d-surface for fun and it's ~40°C in a ~17° environment.

@Danny Pageau: Could you try again and just heat the actual screen surface? Try to estimate temperature of it when heated and turn it off. When the monitor has chilled, just heat the surface until it reaches the "estimated operatingtemp". It's not a tip, i'm just curious. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ok I made the test with the blow dryer (my monitor was idle for 1 hour the time to lunch).
The dryer worked 5 minutes and I made circular movements around the monitor.
The temperature is not the issue, it's sure. After 5 minutes, I reopened the screen and I see the same ghosting as when the monitor is closed for a while.
Hmmm yes I meant to literally hold the blowdryer up to the panel surface not just around the monitor. Ideally your test would look like this:

1) Turn on panel from cold boot.

2) Go into the Nvidia 3D tester like your original picture. Hopefully the ghosting is showing.

3) Put the blowdryer right up to one of the letters, like "N" that is showing the ghosting to heat up that specific part of the panel and only that part.

4) Observe if the ghosting disappears from just that spot.

5) If ghosting persists in all areas except for that spot you heated until the monitor warms up (15-30 mins from your original observation), then you know its a temperature issue.
It's not dangerous to broke the monitor by using it directly on the LCD screen?
The temperature of the blow dryer is really hot...

like I said it's probably not a thermal issue. also applying heat is not very smart, you can easily get the panel too hot and damage it. Try a differnet cable/ connection type and video card. You'll be safer by moving the monitor to a warm room and letting it adjust for an hour or so.

Yes high temps could damage it, that's why I said put it on its lowest warm setting and test against your hand first. Or just control temps by holding it a bit further away. You don't want the blowdryer heat to be be hotter than 100F (still possible under normal operating conditions on a hot day), you just want to heat the panel up to the temps it runs at after being on for a bit by accelerating the process with direct heat. The problem goes away after a some minutes of use in 3D mode, so it is most likely a temperature or warm-up issue.

Hello,

I own an Asus VG236H and it does the same (initial ghosting fades noticeably after like 30 minutes), so I guess it's part of normal operation of Asus 3D devices. :)

Take care!

Edit: I use the first generation glasses.

The same behaviour is found with VG236H...

chiz you had reason, it's due to temperature. My config in the power options of the control panel was set to turn off the display after 5 minutes.
So when I moved out of my PC for more than 5 minutes, the monitor goes into sleep mode, so when I restarted the test and the monitor was idle for some minutes the ghosting reappearing. I have now set the "Turn off the display" setting to "Never" and I configured a screen saver to start after 10 minutes. So the monitor never sleep. Then now, even how much time I'm using 2D, I not see ghosting if I return to 3D mode.

Now I just have to start the computer and let the screen open for 30 minutes to not see any ghosting.

I know peace of mind on something like this is invaluable; its just one of those things that will bug you every day when you look at the monitor unless you figure it out. Good news for Asus though, hopefully others will see your blog and these posts because the last thing this monitor needed was another QC scare lol.

Glad I found this thread as I started to see the same damn thing and wondering if it was the drivers or something else.
Alright just let the screen warm up and play then heh /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Other then this thing and some low buzzing from the emitter im perfectly happy with it, great colours and the hight adjustments are so good!

Yeah I love this monitor too. Yesterday I played to BF3 6 hours without having sore eyes and headaches.
It's the best active 3D monitor (and TV) I seen in term of 3D quality.

I guess I'm been lucky, I don't have any ghosting or other issues with this monitor, hot cold or in between.
