Same here. I've been playing PC games since 1987 - when I bought my 1st PC. Give me Stereoscopic 3D visuals or I'll find another hobby to toss my extra time+funds at. Thankfully I have a fairly large backlog of titles that I have not started, played through or purchased yet. Add in the titles I would not mind experiencing again and I'll get some use out of my gaming system before its OBS.

AMDs 3d sucks. They can't do it right, and it would take too much resources for them to integrate support at this point. Especially since Nvidia has pretty much perfected it. I'm glad. That's just one more reason to not bother with AMD cards.

3D's not going anywhere. As others have said, it's a ludicrous time to make such an announcement, given that it's making slow but steady progress in films and TV, and that the Oculus Rift has almost the entire gaming world peeing in their pants out of anticipation.
Like eqzitara said, AMD has chosen not to pursue 3D for whatever reasons, so now they have to justify that position.
I love gaming too much to quit it if 3D died completely. But if that happened it would be a very sad day, and I'd probably end up gaming less.

Yeah if 3d gaming would die I will just play Nintendo games heh but as we say the VR revolution is on it's way and Oculius Rift are leading it so no worry at all.
And when 3d tv's/monitors that dont need those stupid glasses that in fact takes away colour/lightning and contrast comes out it will be a smoth sailing so it can only be a must have ;)

Yeah, that article is pretty annoying. 20% of the population can't see 3D? Riiight. Why not just make up some more bullshit while you're at it?
It's a bummer that 3D doesn't travel well. If we could show more people properly done 3D, there would be a lot less confusion.
Just started playing Dead Space 3, with the Helix fix of course- in co-op, with two projectors, and two gaming PCs. Epic just doesn't begin to describe the experience of floating in space around Tau Volantis.
Like most of us, I've gamed for a very long time, and this is unquestionably the best it's ever been for me.

I'm always a little bit worried when I show 3D to people, because I know that those initial moments may be slightly awkward while your eyes adjust.
Yet despite that, everyone I've shown it to has been blown away, and just keep gasping and saying "wow" the entire time they've got the glasses on. Non-gamers (eg. my mum and my wife) have said it looks incredible and amazing. Gamers have said "ok, I think I have to stop, otherwise I'll never want to play 2D games again when I get home".
2 minutes. That's all it takes. Considering that, I just don't understand that there's still any confusion about it at all, let alone a lot of it.

you know the best thing about 3d? It's that after years playing in 3d, it still blows my mind away every time I try a new game with it, just like the first time I saw it, it never grows old. Many 2d games graphics age so badly, even year on year, but 3d gaming never ceases to amaze me, and it can make average graphics look so much better.

AMD and stereo 3D...mmmm HAHAHAHAHAHA...AMD and 3D is like comparing AMD CPUS with Intel ones,
is like wanting to go to the Moon with a regular car
is like drinking a cigarette and smoking a coffee
is like learning your duck to speak..
is like.....
and so on...
AMD and 3D...every time I think about these words I feel like I am going to burst in laughter :))
AMD never EVER considered 3D in the 1st place, there were like "SHIET our GPUS, start to suck, Nvidia is pushing better GPUs, now they also brought back 3D Vision, we need to do the same!!" but they had no idea what 3D is all about and it shows...
There are 2 things I give AMD credit:
-Eyefinity (which nvidia ripped as Surround and improved it giving 3D Surround)
- SLI, yes SLI. It appeared in collaboration between nvidia and AMD on AMD cpu motherboards around 2000, at a time when Intel was 80% out of the gaming market. It was later reintroduced (2-3 years ago) for the AMD CPu mobos since AMD broke the pact in the meantime and wanted to push their Crossfire tech and based on a HUGE amount of popular demand
but...well NO 3D..:))
Honestly I care less what AMD has to say regarding 3D, nor do I care. Actually is better they are dropping it..since their support was shiet in the 1st place... Leave it to the pro: Nvidia for their approach and hardware (even if official support is almost 0, besides regular drivers) and OR, Sony etc:)

That's actually a good point. Of all the Square games that got payed off to have AMD 3D, only Tomb Raider was of 3D Vision quality. Sleeping Dogs was pretty terrible with it's convergence, Deus Ex was even worse, and Hitman? If that's the type of support their sponsored games are going to get, we're better off getting zero developer attention and hoping for the best.

Actually, wasn't SLI invented by 3dfx? I had voodoo and voodoo 2 video cards, and they could do SLI. WAAAAY before ATI had any such concept. If I remember correctly, 3dfx was bought by Nvidia, and Nvidia took that SLI tech as their own. I assumed ATI simply assimilated that idea and developed crossfire.

SLI for 3dfx meant Scan Line Interleave, which was for CRTs of the time to alternate scan lines for the 2x speedup. You had to cable the output of the cards together with a dongle, and route it to your video card for final display.
NVidia did buy 3dfx in bankruptcy. They then released their SLI, but it was now Scalable Link Interface, and is much more flexible, allowing you to do things like draw 1/3 of a screen for each of 3 cards.
Here's another interesting AMD twist- they no longer need an Crossfire bridge, and rely upon the PCI-e bus.

Bingo!
I was refering to the modern age SLI (that currently we all use) But Indeed 3dfx were the 1st to actually think about it ;))
I do remember the annoying cable stuff on the voodoo2 (ah a marvelous graphics accelerator)
Anyway what I wanted to point out was that at the time nvidia released SLI, the AMD platform was very strong and SLI was released on AMD CPU motherboards in partnership with AMD ofc;))

Ive always felt let down with 3d gaming in general, most always there are issues with games. There are a small few titles (Tomb Raider, L4D, WoW) which I will remember fondly but mostly I feel disappointment. Good thing I have found other uses for my 3d system which make it worth its cost. Pics, video and making 3d content is far more satisfying than 95% of the games listed as 3d ready.
3D Vision live has some amazing content/peeps and I bet I have spent more hours viewing that site/making 3d pics then all my 3d game time combined since purchasing Gforce 3D vision at launch.
Id really like to say id replace it when it breaks but ..... I think a 4k screen or triple monitors would get my money this time around. With two 3dtv's in the house I really don't need Nvidias' solution to continue my 3d hobbies. Each to their own I guess

*offtopicaswell* odd too that the 'eye' is such a low res compared to the text on the button ...
