Dragon Age Inquisition
  50 / 83
Basically for me its either perfect, or the UI is at screen depth and shadows are wrong. There is no rhyme or reason for when it works or not, and the only way I can make sure I can play without the frustration or reloads is with the process I outlined earlier, then at least it will load correctly every time, but usually breaks again on zone. Like you point out Alt + tabbing only appears to stop it crashing (still does occasionally, but at least it allows a save.) I rebuilding tonight but I am honestly not expecting any difference. I do however hope with a new motherboard and cpu I will be able to use the default profile in SLI because its definitely much more stable with applying the fix on the default profile in single card mode. (usually 3d does not break on zone either)

I am actually upgrading motherboard and CPU tomorrow so I will start with a fresh install as per your recommendations in a previous post and.... fingers crossed :P Cheers Mike you legend. Will continue to post a save for any issues I find but hopefully that's the last of it.
In addition: I have updated DX11 in Windows 7 (not only installed from DAI_Install folder), this brings more performance and wont afflict stability or behavior of the FIX (V7). ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I have also noticed that LOADING a game did not need ALT+TAB for 3D is ok. It is some random issue if 3D is ok or not. Even with traveling. BUT ALT+TAB prevents trave-crashes!! But seems not to be necessary for correct 3D kick in. The most errors for wrong 3D is only in some textures, not the whole 3D. Like the hair of a chars, the dors or some equipment like bags, weapons or tents in camps. Kicking in 3D correctly after travel or loading seems to be a 50 % chance for me, optimistically i would say 66 % (2 of 3 cases). Also there seems to be no constant working issue for when you ALT+TAB or kick in 3D again, neither with timings. ALT+TAB is also working with the same results in beeing OK if you do it in the first period of the loading screen, and if you wait 10 seconds or 5 seconds, it is working if you do it on the card-loading-screen right after it appears or after 2 or 5 seconds. There is no constance. BUT: ALT+TAB on loading WILL prevent crashing. This is the only constance i have found out. In conclusion: Cleaning the Shader-Cache dir will make it possible to use shader-cahce=on and have no influence on the 3D is working or not after loading or traveling, even with shader-cache=off. But shader-cache=on will makes loading significant faster. Restarting with filled shader-cache-dir will lead you to broken 3D, so clean it before restarting and before starting a game. And ALT+TAB will prevent crashes after loading but do not try to figure out a "best point" to do this, or be affraid or unsure when you do it, because there is no constance and there is no "best moment" ....just do it, broken 3D is not an issue of the moment when or how long you ALT+TAB. ==> This is what i can report after 1 week of playing the game with the FIX an may not be the law!
Losti, are you still using the 344.65 drivers? I have tried everything I can think of but I can never get proper 3D to work in SLI with shader cache on using the 347.09 drivers. The only thing that seems to work for me with SLI is using the BF4 profile and setting shader cache off. That is almost a guaranteed proper 3D, but it seems rather unstable with loading screens even with Alt-Tab trick. This game is truly a finicky thing for sure.

shader cache on (loadind a map is very quick, thanx for this) 347.09 driver,bf4 profile, gtx670sli - no problems here. There is very rare issue with shaders after loading a map, but since i learned about "shader cache on" it is not a problem due to fast loading. P.S. the epic game in 3D is twice epic.

Personally I moved back to 344.48 WHQL drivers. Why? - Dragon Age: Inquisition has a SLI profile and I don't get the texture flickering in SLI. - It doesn't have a 3D Vision profile for the game though. - I can play the game in both SP and MP and I DON'T GET ANY 2D rendered things (basically every single time all the elements are rendered in 3D). With 344.65 or 347.09 I wasn't able to play a single MP game without getting some elements rendering in 2D... - Driver is stable. - Works with all the other games. - The ALT+TAB trick is working. - Using all the other settings according to the HelixBlog. Maybe it helps others as well;))

I have already spent 10 times more time trying to make it work than actually playing the darn game. Tonight I finally played through the first "boss" fight to the point I wake up after the rift is closed. I think that is probably no more than an hour of actual playtime if that. For now I think I am going to leave SLI disabled, use the 347.09 drivers with DAI profile. Even with that my 3D was borked after the loading where I wake up in the cabin. I did the alt-tab while the cards came up but still 3D was messed up. But, at least I could save and reload. And with shader cache on it was not too long a reload. For all of this I have been using the batch file to clear the cache and I have Aero disabled. I have used DDU each driver change as well. I have no extra commands when I load the game and I have the Origin overlay disabled. And, I have made the the registry edits as well. Do you happen to know what changing EnabledWindowedMode = 1 does compared to the default value of 5? I could not find anything on Google about that setting. Hopefully this can get sorted out over time; there are so many variables. Though I am sure a future driver update or game patch will shake things up too. For a little while I am just going to try to enjoy the game until something changes that seems to indicate it is worth trying more testing. I had to turn settings down a little bit to run it with one card but it still looks good to me.

I just installed the game the drivers (and chipset) and the fix, and I am able to run with the shader cache on in SLI (bf4 profile, seems more stable too) I slowly added more components and tested each step of the way. Works near perfectly. Then I took an image of the system and installed all the windows updates. Bang, broken Shaders on load again!... Something in those 200 or so windows updates from a raw system is causing this issue. Which would make it a nightmare to isolate. But, Tomorrow I will restore my system image pre windows updates and try some different drivers and see how it acts. Good thing my system is pretty swift now so playing with shader cache off isn't so bad. I am kinda wary to run a computer security eise with the OS out of date, but it would be nice to get to the bottom of this.

That is interesting indeed... On my Desktop the Os updates are disabled for like 2 years (Win 7 x64 Ultimate) since I had all sorts of griefs with the updates.. (can't even remember what the issue was now)... On my Laptop I do have ALL the updates (Win7 x64 Home Edition) installed. Again for me is working BUT I have JUST one card in the laptop so can't test SLI... Using the 344.48 drivers on both systems seems to do a better job in the FIX + 3D Vision driver actually rendering all elements in 3D (no 2D weapons, heads, boxes or stuff like that).... That's why I recommended those drivers (plus are the only drivers I can use for Shadow of Mordor without the instant crash or the wrapper not working properly...) Glad that you managed to get to the bottom of the problem :) I know is hard to manually check what each update patches but I expect to be something related to the DirectX Api....

Yeah necro, good news that the stress was woth this try. I have Windows 7 only for gaming so... i dont care of security because i start Windows 8.1 all the day and this is "save" and with virus program. Ähm in addition to all: start the game some times with origin to sync your save-games ^^ I will give the 344.48 a try and compare it with the behavior before and the performance. "DirectX Api...." ... you meand DX from MS or not? Because i have updatet DX11 on my Windows 7 and there is no difference to the "old" one, expect some more FPS.

OK, DDU and 344.48 tryed on SLI 770 GTX and i got the same behavior as with newer drivers without BF4 profile. With 344.48 i run into big trouble with ALT+TAB, seems to bring back the right point to do this and needs to disable 3D before traveling ... but sometimes you cant do this because you dont know if you travel or not (some quest)...i run into travel crashed i have never had with the other drivers and ALT+TAB.... So there are also 3D issues on loading/traveling in some cases. Did not tryed MP but i ant see any advantage installing 344.48 FOR ME so .... i will go back to the lastest driver.
I think I said quite the opposite in fact. For me BF4 profile in ALL driver versions it introduces MORE problems then solving... Also an API is Application Programming interface: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_programming_interface and is not what you "double click" to install.... Is part of the OS and not the libraries... In any case, do what it works for you. Use the latest drivers if that works out for you.
There we have it I think. I actually don't get any issues if I use a single card on the default profile its only in SLI. and I think the fact you don't have windows updates installed is the key. I just wish I could easily find out which update is causing it. I would have thought DX as well but I used a separate installer to update that initially and it was fine.

I guess in Windows Updates you can check the KBXXXX description of each update/patch and see if something is patching the DX API or anything related to that.... But I wouldn't spend the time on that TBH... I learnt from Win XP never let windows to update on it's own or you get massive problems... Now on WIn8.1 they released the Silver Bullet Patch to actually remove a previous patch lol... -_- Besides that I use Avast AV + other tools (CCleaner, Malwarebytes, etc) to keep the system in top shape... And belive it or not the OS was installed 3+ years ago) On my Laptop for example I had to restore to OEM image after I bought the laptop since Windows Failed to apply an update (for some unknown reasons) and borked the whole OS.... -_-. Windows + Updates = tricky stuff in general from my experience.
