Should i buy the Optoma HD67?(I don't have a choice)
  1 / 2
Hey, I live in India and the acer H5360 isn't available. I'm looking for a 3d projector that is compatible with Nvidia 3d vision and is also 720p. Can i use the optoma HD67 or HD66?(Both are available).ALso, is it simply plug and play for these projectors or is there any work-around involved? If so, what is it and can anyone confirm it works? Also, the lumens is kinda low compared to the H5360, will this be a problem with the shutter glasses on?

Also, the image is going to be on the other side of the wall so i'll need to extend the IR emitter. Can i do this with a USb to mini-USB cable or atleast a USB extension? Is this possible?

Please help me out with a solution.

Yes and no.

Its not plug and play. You can use older drivers, like cd.1.15 3d vision, and wear the glasses upside down.

If I were you, I would go for the Benq 24" lcd-monitor for now.

(I have the optoma hd67)

Nothing is lower in lumens than a H5360 , maybe a led projector is. It has 750 lumens in 3d mode. Yes it is a problem, you can't just get away wigh matte white screen, need to spray bright silver paint onto it for twice the brightness.

gosh stay away from this, it has only dlplink, that means contrast are way below even LCD levels. What a piece of crap.

the problem is that i already have a 32inch sony bravia lcd screen(60hz) which i had bought for around a 1000$. since 32" is pretty small for a home theatre i was looking to go for a projector which i can also use to play 3d blu ray in the future. the reason im thinking so much about a optoma hd67 is because it works out to around 1600$ in India due to the customs tax, import tax and everything. i dont mind paying the extra $1000 if it's really good.
is wearing the glasses upside-down comfortable?cos i heard the notch makes it easier. i just read the edid work around and i want to ask you if i can use the HDMI port for 3d vision.
Finally, does anybody know of any other HD(720p or 1080p) projectors compatible with Nvidia which are not on the list?cos i'm about to spend 1600$ on a projector, i might as well get the best one.
so all-in-all H5360 is the best compatible projector but if i cant get that, i should go for the HD67, right?but if both are availble, should i go for the hd67 as there is a work around possible?

Thanks a lot for your replies.
Oh, one more thing, i live in a rented apartment right now, so i cant get a screen, i'll have to use a white wall.

Don't buy pj HD67, if you have only dlplink 3d, that projector is messed up beyond belief, its not comparable to H5360, that manages to give over 1000 contrast in 3d. The optoma will be way below 1000 thus below LCD monitors.

srinivas1015 are you not able to get the HD66?
I have this working fine latest drivers and wearing the Nvidia glasses the correct way up.
So the only thing I'm missing from a Acer H5360 point of view is it doesn't get automatically detected like the Acer H5360 would.
Same lumens on both eco or bright mode and 2d and 3d but remember the HD66 actually offers a higher contrast of 4000 to the Acer's 3200.
I'd go Optoma mate just my opinion, they are after all only in the projector business unlike acer.

4000 doesnt matter if its around 2600 in truth (which the ACER is ) , and matters even less in 3d mode where it drops to 1000.

I have measurements man.

You own both projectors and have measured both with a colorimeter ?
I am aware manufacturers like to give non real world stats for this but 4000 to 2600 and 3200 to 2600 doesn't make sense to me.

At the end of the day I find this projector fine for both 2D and 3D gaming and movies which is what it is all about.
I also own an Epson TW2000 which is my true home theater projector and the Optoma doesn't hold a candle to it's picture quality but for the price of this projector I'm still very impressed I tell ya.

What about LCD TV contrast ratios of 1.000.000:1 measured with dynamic contrast backlights.
You start to see these stupid crazy measurements in projector specs too.

@bullripper

the hd66 is available but i thought hd67 was more in tune with 3d vision(my mistake).. since you are saying you can get it working correctly, i'll buy the hd66.. also, are you using an HDMI port?if not, does it really make any difference in quality?have you watched any 3d video clips on it?
to get it working, i presume you followed the same(or similar) method as that mentioned in another forum topic? if you dont mind me asking, did you do anything extra other the steps mentioned in this thread:

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=164029
also, i see you've mentioned that epson is your true home theatre projector..do you think the HD66 is good enough for now (apart from the lack of full HD)?because since i'm buying it for 1600$, i wont be able to replace it soon..i dont know whether to just dump 3D and go for an awesome 2D 1080p projector or buy the HD66..
one last thing, if I have any small doubts setting it up, you can help me out a bit, right?(this probably wont happen since there is already a proper guide)..anyway, thanks man..

@everybody:
thanks a lot for all your replies...really, not many people can give first-hand accounts and customer care isnt really responsive or helpful..

Oh, and with the acer , we have 750 lumen brightness, similar to a CRT projector
