Nvidia give us checkerboard in the next WHQL driver
1 / 2
Andrew Fear,
Please tell me checkerboard will be available in the next WHQL drivers for 3DTV Play. I can't hardly wait anymore. Please give us some great news. We've been waiting for that since last year.
Also, since Crytek will add DX11 implementation for Crysis 2, do you think they might let you guys use your drivers for real S3D with Crysis 2???? I've already sent my message about this in their foruns, but not many people talk about 3D there unfortunately. I know Crytek will listen to you and Nvidia , since you guys are partners.
DX11 will, I think, make a big deal of difference in Crysis 2 graphics and realism, but still having to use Crytek's fake 3D implementation will be a boomer. So, imagine DX11 + dual frame render 3D = Crysis 2 (the real PC version) not this consolized ported game they're selling to us PC end users.

I find it pretty funny that everyone is crying for checkerboard support on the new HDMI 1.4 TVs. Yet when checkerboard support was widely available on Mitsu DLPs (and Samsung ones), a lot of people were putting it down how its "inferior half rez" and how the new 3D TVs will blow that tech away.

It's simply a matter of the best available for 3dtv gaming use.
1080p sequential > 1080p checkerboard > 720p sequential

I finally tried roller's rollermod which enabled me to run games at 1080 in checkerboard on my samsung led 3dtv and I must say it looks way better then the standard 720 3dTV Play settings.
Wish I could build that damn timer this second to get rid of the red error message so please nvidia hurry up and give us checkerboard :)

I feel bad for andrew having to always say "its coming guys, it's coming", but i literally only use my samsung plasma for my PC. I have all 3 programs, i have nvidia 3dtv play, tridef ignition, and IZ3D, and i really like the way the nvidia software works, but i just don't use it as the other 2 programs do checkerboard at 1080p and the difference is huge.
Hopefully the update comes soon, because i would really like to use Nvidias program!

To be clear, checkerboard *is* available right now in 3D Vision, it's been in every driver release for over a year now. All we are asking for is elimination of the bogus false error message:
"VESA emitter cable is disconnected or Stereoscopic 3D is off on TV". So it isn't like we are asking for a new feature, or new anything.
Andrew promised he would fix bug this on Jan.19, 2011. Since then, bug fixes much more difficult that this have been done, but the most important bug fix, elimination of the error message, still remains. It would take a programmer maybe 15 minutes to do this.
So why is it taking so long? Simple, no ones working on it. Andrew's fix is to implement CB in 3DTV Play and he's calling that a "new feature" even though the "new" code has been fully working and tested for over a year. With that stradegy, elimination of the bogus message would then come along for free. Problem is, that imposes an artificial unnecessay delay for all the 3D Vision people, checkerboard delayed is checkerboard denied.
Andrew could simply eliminate the message immediately in 3D Vision, or, he could wait for CB to be added to 3DTV Play.

Yes I committed to working on the feature and no I did not provide a release schedule. I know everyone thinks its easy and just one line of code, but its more than that.
There are also release planning schedules we need to get involved with - don't forget we support 100 million+ GPU owners with our drivers.
Just because I don't have a schcedule doesnt mean no one is working on it.
Please be patient it will take some time to implement - I apologize in advanced that it isnt a instant fix.

This thread isn't about 3DTV Play or checkerboard. This thread is about something unrelated, the red overlay bug in 3D Vision. Since incorporating CB into 3DTV Play is a long complicated process, could you just do a bug fix, eliminate the bogus false error message in 3D Vision? It hardly seems fair that the Samsung people who have paid for their 3D Vision kits can't use them until an unrelated issue is resolved.

Hi
I am confused as to what this thread is about now. It's title is about giving you checkerboard support in a WHQL driver.
Please explain to me more about the red warning message/samsung issues and if its an HDMI 1.4 Samsung.

Exactly, the title is misleading.
There are two completely seperate issues:
1. There is a bogus error message overlay when a game is launched in 3D checkerboard mode under 3D Vision.
2. There is no checkerboard mode in 3DTV Play
After many years as a project manager/design engineer at 3DFX, Diamond MM, and other companies in the North San Jose, Milpitas, Fremont area, I know what's involved in adding CB to 3DTV Play. That's why we are asking only for a bug fix, eliminate the red overlay message in 3D Vision. The message "VESA emitter cable is disconnected or Stereoscopic 3D is off on TV" is superfluous if you have a HDMI1.3 TV. Worse, it ruins the gaming experience if you have a HDMI1.4 TV because you can't get rid of it.
If you eliminate this message and do nothing else, all 3D Vision/Samsung HDMI1.4 people would be 100% satisfied and could use all past and future drivers, and we wouldn't be subjected to the delay of 3DTV Play checkerboard implementation.

Do you know the information message that appears when you start a game, the one you can toggle pressing control+alt+insert?
We would like to be able to toggle on and off the rest of the 3DVision interface overlay that appears on the screen, like the messages when turning the crosshair on/off, the depth bar and the error messages, with a key combination just like we do with that message. Something like control+alt+home

Andrew,
For any Samsung HDMI1.4 3DTV, HDMI1.4 cable connecting the VGA card to HDMI1 input of the Samsung.
3D Vision IR emitter is plugged into the PC with supplied USB cable. The emitter's sync port is not connected. EDID override file rollermod.inf is installed via device manager. CD1.45 or later is installed, driver Set Up proceeds through 3D Vision, not 3DTV Play. reboot, the CP shows standard 3D Vision choices: discover, DLP, CRT. Launch a game in 3D checkerboard, and the message "VESA emitter cable is disconnected or Stereoscopic 3D is off on TV" is overlaid on the screen and does not go away. The game plays in CB mode perfectly, except for the overlay message.

You've got to be kidding! After all this time and as many posts as have been made on this, Andrew claims they are working on something that he
apparently still doesn't understand???
At this rate, we will be lucky to ever have a fix!
Here's an idea!!!---How about offering roller11 a job working on some of these side issues? It seems to me he is qualified to do what is necessary to move things along at a faster pace.
Also I have to comment on the new quote system on these forums. IMO it is a step back from the previous quote system.
