Performance hit using 3d crosshair?
  1 / 2
Hi forum!

Before going to bed I wanted to ask one question: is the 3d crosshair technically THAT demanding? When I tried Battlefield Bad Company 2 (yeah yeah, that game with the broken support :( ) and Half-Life 2 recently, I discovered a HUGE performance hit enabling the 3d crosshair (by default: CTRL + F12) ingame.

I would REALLY be happy about an article concerning this one topic describing the problems, possible solutions and maybe even the technical background.

That has always been a issue. I believe it has something to do with having to render that thing (in 3D). I try to avoid it at all cost. If you dig far enough back in these forums, someone explained it much better than I did.

Thanks for your reply!

If you remember what to search for maybe you could post it ... the forum search crashes every time I search for "crosshair".

I think NVIDIA really has a serious problem currently. Time is passing and 3D Vision's problems are not just getting fixed what one would expect from a technique that is promoted as the next big thing. I really LOVE my stereo 3d display and I would really like to enjoy simply every game via 3D Vision, but when friends come to ask me which monitors to buy and they mind these sexy 3d monitors I not just say "OMG of course you should buy one of those!" but I explain the advantages and the problems.

People start losing trust in stereo 3d before it had a chance to prove itself - just like the 3D Relevator a decade before. What has to be done is honest educational PR - and also solutions have to come once in a while!

I also avoid using the 3D crosshair, i would rather have the extra FPS, it would be nice if it could be fixed but i cant say im too fussed about it, but what would be nice is a smaller less intrusive crosshair, as they all seem massive. Something like a dot like in max payne would be good.

Maybe its a case that nvidia only need to make sure the games they have stamped as 3D ready are working good with 3D and other games are just a bonus if they work. Hopefully they will update soon.

There is a user-made fix for the crosshair in BC2, it should be in its own thread on the first page or two of threads here. Works perfectly.

I do not use nvidia 3d crosshair, not only because framerate lost, also because I don´t like the desing of the few examples to choose. I don´t know why there is not a simple little dot to choose (like the red dot in Metro 2033). Also would be good to have the posibility to change designs or colors in the fly into the game. I think Nvidia forgotten the crosshair in the past because can be a lot of better and beautifull.

- "Dell S2716DG" monitor (2560x1440 @144Hz)

Did you actually READ my question?

I am not trolling around, I am just trying to solve problems. Of course I am not sounding like a little fanboy doing that, but I am wasting my worthy time here so I am not interested to soft-soap anyone.
