3D Vision Advice..
I've been reading several threads on this forum for the past day or two because i'm really into the whole 3D thing, i loved 3d films in the cinema like Avatar and i'm really impressed by 3D TV's and am currently saving up for one, so being a gamer i thought it only made sense to get nVidia 3D Vision.

I've just got my new Asus GTX 470 (had to RMA my old one after a week, fan died  ) so i'm all set on that front. But i'm really not sure whether to get one of the 3D Vision kits (with the Samsung or Viewsonic monitors) i've been reading that the top half of the screen is totally screwed up with ghosting everywhere, is this the case on every panel ? because i havn't seen it mentioned in several reviews i've read. My budget is £350 really so unless i can pick up Acer's 3D projector for half it's normal price i don't really have many options available to me.

Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

No, this is not the case on every panel. I have the samsung 2233rz and I do not have that top of screen ghosting issue. Enough people have complained and some say they have "severe" ghosting on the top half, which leads me to believe that something really must be wrong with some of the panels. The price has dropped on the 2233rz to make it an easier call. I think the display is great overall. I know its a good step up from doing 3d with CRTs that I did for 10 years. The glasses are pricey, but they also are a big step up from those $30 pieces of junk every 3d system used to sell. These are much more durable.

There are two new displays out there, the alienware and an Acer model. They say they are the "next generation" 3d displays, but I have heard so many bad things about the acer not producing decent 2d quality that it really leads me to think that maybe this isnt really a step up, but sideways. The alienware is said to be better with 2d, I dont know. Everyone claims they produce less ghosting than the samsung 2233rz. I cannot take a hit on 2d performance so I am waiting to see what happens this summer. Ideally, I want more than 1920x1080, but the world is just fixated on that resolution at the moment. If I could find a 1920x1200 that was the same quality as the 2233rz, I would snap it up, but nobody has gone over 1920x1080 yet.

Well, ANY LCD monitor will have slight ghosting. Just the nature of the display. I have the Samsung 2233rz and I like it just fine. Yes, there is a definate ghosting at the top of the screen, the very top inch of it. However, I hardly ever notice it. If you think about it most of the time whatever you are focused on in any given game you usually have it centered on screen. And the good thing about 3d vision is that depth and convergence are completely adjustable. If too much depth causes too much ghosting for you, you can turn depth down and up convergence and still have a great 3d experience. Actually it is quite fun to play with depth/convergence differences. Also it depends on the game. I usually only see ghosting in high contrast scenes. In games like COD4 where everything is kind of gray/green anyway you won't see ghosting at all.

Ghosting aside man, I'm spoiled now. I don't ever want to play without 3d. I don't want to play Doom3 or quake 4 again until Nvidia releases some opengl support. (COME ON NVIDIA!!) Plus, I havn't played games on my xbox 360 for weeks. I actually squealed with delight when first firing up BFBC2 and it looked like I could literally grab onto the scope of my sniper rifle. :P Or Oblivion, when it looks like I could really eat the food on tables LOL.

So, if you are a gamer who just loves games, graphics, whatever like me, you won't be disappointed in 3d vision. If you're a picky "everything must be perfect" kind of guy... well you'd find anything to complain about right? LOL Ok theres my opinion. :)
Cheers.

Thanks for both of your opinions.

Is the viewsonic monitor any good ? my favourite online retailer is out of stock of the Samsung version.

I've got the Viewsonic. There is noticeable ghosting at the top (I'd say 20 to 25 percent of the screen). It's really only noticeable in really bright areas. Even with the ghosting, I'd still recommend 3D Vision. It'll certain make you eager to get a DLP and experience no ghosting at all.
