HALO 2 Black screen with 3D-Vision (fix)
  1 / 3
How to fix the Black Screen Crash with Halo 2 after the first Screen: Set desktop and game settings to an equal refreshrate (60/120 or 144 Hz) In Nvidia control Panel set V-Sync to adaptive (half rate). This fixes the overspeed and (framedrop ??) issue with the game. The mouse doenst spin around anymore and your character walks properly (nor more random jumps). Use the Advanced 3D Vision config tool http://helixmod.blogspot.de/2015/10/advanced-3d-vision-configuration.html and set 3D enabled on game launch to OFF. Alternatively set the registry value manually under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\StereoDefaultOn = 0 Enable Stereo with STRG+T when the third screen appears ( saying: "press any button..." ). Good find! I would've tried some things for you but I only have Halo, not 2... :) You can set StereoDefaultOn to 0x0 in it's Profile, that way it's not set Globally... you could probably set the V-Sync setting(s) in the Profile as well but my Control Panel is being wonky again so I can't check them without reinstalling Drivers... ugh. Just set V-Sync to normal, check your Global/Base Profile, set them to Adaptive, Refresh/Restart NVIDIA Profile Inspector(or redump with GeForce 3D Profile Manager) and check the difference(s).

Youre right, this should work too, havent tried it yet though. In beetweentime i made a small fix for a better 3D experience. Halo 2 looks kind of flat with the weapon in front of the player plus the 2D crosshair is kind of annoing too. To get the ultimate 3D depth follow instructions below. Disable 2D crosshair by using https://s3.amazonaws.com/rjkole/halo2.zip (helixmod) add Setting : ID_0x70225308 = 0x3f9aaaaa UserSpecified=true to Halo 2 profile. This corrects the vertical crosshair offset of the game to about -22%. The setting needs to be made this way because nvidia inspector doesnt seem to accept other values then 25/30/35 ect in this case Press STRG+F12 to enable nvidia crosshair. Push convergence until your wepaon disappears from the screen sideways. Set depth (usualy STRG+F3/F4) to a higher value. Save with STRG+F7 RJ

Hi RJ8 , thank you so much for this I am a big Halo2 fan, I would like to give it a try. The disable crosshair you have posted is denied, would you mind posting again?

In the sticky by Helifax, there is a guide to exporting/importing profiles. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/791450/3d-vision/guide-3d-vision-fixes-by-helixmod-amp-how-to-add-compatibility-mode-to-dx11-games/ You need to export, edit the profile and then reimport the profiles with the modified profile. If you get an error when importing, you probably did not follow the instructions by Helifax correctly. Or, you did something weird to the profile that the manager didn't like. You can confirm that you followed Helifax's directions correctly, by immediately importing the exported profiles, before they are altered. If there's no error, then that part is ok. BTW, welcome to the forums

Hello, Thanks for the quick reply. I will export the halo 2 profile to my desktop. What does it show up as, a .txt file? Do I then simply copy and paste that line to the end of the file and save? Then import back in with inspector?

It exports every profile that is in the drivers. Yes, it is a text file and is easily edited. Export and import with GeForce 3D Profile Manager. you might need to add it in this form Setting ID_0x70225308 = 0x3f9aaaaa InternalSettingFlag=V0 This setting is to move the Nvidia crosshair that you turn off/on via ctrl+F12

Hello, Thanks for the quick replies today, but I'm having trouble still. I exported the halo 2 profile and it exported as a .nip file. I added the setting and when I went to import, it fails. It fails because it wants to import a .xml file. I am not sure how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

I know, I get it. The FFS may be warrented, however these difficulties exist. I will do the reading.
