I have done some searching for performance and stuff on my PC but haven't come to any decent conclusions, so hope you don't mind me making a new thread,
I'm sure you get these all the time heh.
My PC specs are:
Vista 64 Premium
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9300 @2.50ghz
4gb Reaper OCZ RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 275
I was thinking of getting the Samsung+3D bundle.
How are my specs in relation to performance on 3d games?
Some of my favorite games are:
Mass Effect 1+2
Dragon Age: Origins
Prototype
FPS' like L4D, HL2, AVP
Basically my question is...can i still run games like these at max specs with 3D on and have more than enough FPS? or would i have to compromise?
If not, can you give recommendations to what I could add to improve it? if 3D is as incredible as you guys seem to say I think i'd be willing to grab some extra gear.

You can't run all the eye candy regardless of how powerful your system is, shadows are a no no, also AA often has to be off, motion blur again needs turning off, ambient occlusion can cause issues too.
It's a trade off, you get the effect of 3D at the expense of most of the other effects.
Your specs are good though, and games would run at acceptable FPS. Just be aware it's still a bleeding edge tech, so it's far from a hassle free experience [ghosting, crosshairs and huds in the wrong place are the main problems atm].

So i guess i'd have to turn of shadows, AA, blur and things but i could still have the highest textures etc?
Would you say the compromises of eye candy are beaten by the 3D effect?[/quote]
up until now I havent seen a game that wouldnt run acceptable, with max settings on my system (see signature).
you can be sure that your sytem will be totally fine, but not future proof.
but those games which you listed I can guarantee that you will be able to run on max settings even in stereo.
its not like you have to compromise special effects in every single game. for example Dragon age runs with all eyecandy on and with excellent stereo with no sideeffects.
ofc ghosting is something thats unavoidable in any game. but its relatively little tradeoff for getting stereoeffect.
p.s.
for me personally the worst kind of problem is "halo/ghost" around objects in games that arent compatible with stereovision (its not the same as ghosting).
the halo can be minimized by reducing depth stetting and at the same time increasing convergence to get somewhat acceptable effect.
that doesnt work always so some games still have to be played in 2d.

Good 3d beats the hell out of normal eye candy, tho Really good 3d is abit sparse atm but still a few games that are worth it.
As for shadows and aa off that is only on some games as some other games work well with on. 2 games do not react the same with 3d and yes you can still have the highest textures etc.
I love the 3d effect, i have about 160 games and have tried most now, some work so well its amazing, others like crap.
But truly great games are not that many (atm) for instance i played an old game called GUN by activision yesterday. its an ok game but with 3d its fricking amazing. the cut scenes dont wortk well but the game itself it truly awesome, makes an ok game when played normaly Sweet when played 3d.
Also most RTS games play extremely well in 3d. I keep meaning to write a list of reviews for the games I have tried but just to add one more, I played Mount and blade yesterday and that works Very well in 3d

Thanks Skabais, think i will definitely go for it then. :)
One last thing...
How about sound, to finish the experience do people use high quality headphones or something? I have a good soundblaster card but i only use 2 front speakers atm, what would you guys recommend?

sounds like you are like me possibly, I love visual but I dont really care about sound, I have a stupidly high pc and I run a pair of stereo speakers that cost me like £7. if you like sound go mad if not dont ;)

I am big into audio actually, it's just with my current room setup it would look like hell if i tried to add rear speakers etc. so i was thinking maybe some high quality headphones might be a good purchase to set off the 3d experience. :)

Ahh then we are not alike lol,
well a friend has a pair of sweet 3d surround headphones that I tried last week. cost him about £70 and they were awesome. no idea of the make but not hard to find a good set. I would rather spend the £70 and put it towards a Novint Falcon but that's my bag lol

If you're dead set on going 3D which display do you intend to purchase, I think DLP projectors and CRT monitors suffer much less the problems of LCD's but are more expensive and don't always get 3D support [although I think that has been mostly fixed with some recent driver updates].

I was intending to get the Samsung, I am using a Samsung right now, it's one step down from the 3D one, and i've always been happy with it. sound good? :)
Thanks for the headset recommendation man, i have always been a Sennheiser fan :)

If you're dead set on going 3D which display do you intend to purchase, I think DLP projectors and CRT monitors suffer much less the problems of LCD's but are more expensive and don't always get 3D support [although I think that has been mostly fixed with some recent driver updates].
