[quote="lohan"]That sounds interesting, Skaut! I was also thinking about switching the 690 but was hoping even the GTX -970 would be sufficient since you always pay way more for the top-dog (GTX-980) than would be justified by its performance-plus compared to the second-best option (GTX-970). What do you think, would the 970 be enough for 1440p 3d Vision?
I am not sure if I got you right, Skaut: You used to play in Full-HD 3D Vision Surround then somehow turned away from Surround (why?) and tried 1440p 3d vision with the ROG Swift which totally flashed you because of the awesome resolution. But still you say nothing beats 3D Vision Surround?
What would you prefer if you could choose only one option? Full HD 3D Vision Surround or single-monitor 1440p? I am really undecided by now! (Yes I know 1440p in Surround would be king).

Yea - I`ve made this sound a little bit weird.
You see I had 3D Surround (3x22") and I wasn`t happy with game performance on gtx480 Sli so I`ve changed to 27" screen and start playing sitting little bit closer to the screen. Still - nothing will beat the panoramic view of Surround Setup but experience was great and performance at the top level.
Now with ROG Swift you got Amazing picture with weak performance because Sli doesn`t work and I don`t have 980/970 to check how that plays with all this new games. Actually I am waiting for "ti" version of gtx980 so hopefully I`ll be able to keep that screen and have a nice performance.
Anyway 3D Surround experience kills you first time when you see it and after that it is so hard to go down or compare to anything - because to be honest even ROG Swift is like lowering your expectations. If we only have a power to run it smoothly on max.

I sent a PM to KingPing1, hopefully he will reply.
In his signature, he shows that he owns both monitors using Titans in SLI with a 680 for PhysX.
I'm curios to how well the stereoscopic gaming looks in 1920 and 1440 on the 4K Acer.
If 1920 still looks good on the Acer 4K, it could be a better somewhat future proof upgrade and possibly allow you to run the lower resolution in more demanding games.

So Skaut, you as one who has witnessed the ROG Swift in 1440p 3D as well as a 3DV Surround setup would say that you would rank 1080p 3DV Surround even higher than 1440p 3D Vision on a single Monitor, right!?
I know in the end it comes down to my personal preference but I am really interested in your opinion!

My personal opinion is that nothing I`ve seen is comparable with 3D Surround (maybe Dual Projection but that`s not the option right here). If you play games from quite far away from the screen then you`ll be able to appreciate Panoramic view. Games like The Witcher, Batman, Dead Space, Max Payne looks absolutely amazing but if you prefer fpp shooters and you sit closer to the screen then you might not appreciate all this extra peripheral view.
Friend of mine bought three screen setup for less then I`ve paid for my ROG Swift. When I see games like Trine 2 or Diablo 3 on wide spread I am like.......oh damn :/
Btw: ask Helifax why he`s still so crazy and play 3D Surround :)

the acer XB280HK is a 60hz g-sync monitor without ULMB or 3D mode.
NVIDIA TITAN X (Pascal), Intel Core i7-6900K, Win 10 Pro,

ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q, ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q, Acer Predator XB280HK, BenQ W710ST
Well you own it so I'm sure you are right. Thanks for posting.
Kinda messed up that Newegg lists it as Nvidia 3D Vision ready.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009658&cm_re=XB280HK-_-24-009-658-_-Product
EDIT: have you tried it in 3D? Even the Acer promotional video on Amazon is showing it as 3D Vision ready as well as the Amazon product info.

EDIT2:
I found the video on youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qyrT7l0nwg
EDIT 3: Towards the end of the video they show 3 model numbers with only the XB270HK listing 3D Vision. In a quick search the XB270HK doesn't come back with anything. But the product pages at Newegg and Amazon both show 4K, g-sync and 3D Vision in an official looking promo page for the XB280HK.

If you are going higher resolution like 1440p, or Surround, I really would not consider a single 970 anymore. In my opinion, even 3G cards are questionable, now that the new consoles are out and the unified memory architecture makes it easy for them to burn 4G of memory for graphics.
The 970 is a cut down part, and works well for what it is, but that 3.5G+0.5G debacle means the cards is effectively a 3.5G card, and while that is OK for today, I really think that in a year that 3.5G is going to be a problem. 4G was barely acceptable, and losing that 500M is a deal breaker for me.
You could run them in SLI, but lately SLI is NVidia's stepchild, and game support has been terrible. For Swift, it seems clear that you cannot do SLI, and 970 is too weak and poorly designed, so if you go that route, I'd strongly suggest the 980 is the best choice.

@D-Man11 - I think the video stipulates that the XB270H models are 3D ready. So far as I'm aware there are no 4k screens that can run faster than 60MHz at the minute (bandwidth issues abound even using displayport 1.3) and 3D Vision requires a minimum of 120MHz to operate. Your closest bets at the minute are the 1440p screens that offer 3D Vision, but as the owner of one such screen (the ROG Swift) I'd say beware of the pitfalls. For one I can't get SLI and 3D Vision to work at the same time so you need a pretty powerful single card to get the best out of it. I have 2 GTX980s so just about get away with it but I'm hoping for a fix soon. If I had more desk space I'd definitely dump the Swift and move to a surround set up.
Might be worth holding out for the new ACER Predator XR341CK (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/32.htm#acer_xr341ck) seems like it might be the best of all worlds that one!!

Exactly D-Man! Totally misleading on Acer's side. They always promote the whole Predator family as ONE so all the features are listed altogether although some of those features only apply to specific models of the Predator-family.
So now I am torn between Full-HD 3DV Surround and 1440p 3DV single-monitor. So that's basically an immersion vs. stunning resolution question. Always being the "bigger is better"-guy it was initially clear to me that only a 27 inch monitor Surround-setup would fit my needs. Right now I am slightly tending in another direction. By choosing a 24 inch monitor 3DV Surround setup I could get both, the immersion-factor but also a very good ppi-value. Going for 27 inch the ppi-value would undermatch my old Samsung's ppi-value.
Then again I could go for the 27 inch setup and increase the distance between the monitors and my seat-position a little bit which should nullify the lower-ppi-problem for the 27 inch setup.
What would say? 24 inch 3DV Surround or 27 inch 3DV Surround?

I take it you didn't read the thread. At no time did I say 120Hz was possible at 4K.
I have a 30Hz 4K TV that does 120Hz @1920, comfirmed with no frame skipping. A 60Hz 4K can do 120Hz @1440.
Did you look at the Newegg or Amazon page? They both say 3D capable.
@bo3b
I agree, it mystifies me why they released 6GB 780s just before the 9XX series launched at 4Gb. I would have thought that they too would be 6GB, it doesn't add much cost. People swiped them up fast and praised the gains while trading in their 780 4GB GPUs
AMD is now offering 8GB on at least one, if not more of their GPUs. Plus they were offering 6GB cards prior to Nvidia.

Thank you all for the never-ending support!
So for now I think 1440p 3DV is out of the equation. Step-down from the immersion that the HMZ provides to just a single-monitor (even in 1440p 3DV) would be too much for me I think so I will go for the immersion of 3DV Surround combined with the considerably better resolution (compared to my 720p-HMZ)
Now the question remains: 24 inch 3DV Surround vs. 27 inch 3DV Surround!
What would be your choice?

Yes, I read the thread - was just trying to offer some advice was all with regards to 1440p 3d gaming from someone who has experience. Don't know why you have to keep coming across as so rude in your posts. As lohan mentioned, Acer are advertising each monitor using a generic XB0 gaming series poster. It mentions 3D because the 27 inch versions are 3D capable. The 28 inch 4k version isn't.
With regards to refresh rates at lower resolutions then I honestly can't comment too much as I have no experience in 4k. Your TV might well be able to do something fancy as it drops down the range but they're configured to run at multiple resolutions and can scale accordingly on the fly. Modern monitors are designed to run at their native resolution only. When you drop the resolution of your desktop it's actually your graphics card performing the scaling function, not the monitor. Now this monitor may be different but I've watched alot of videos and read a lot of stories and no-one mentions 3D. I think the 4k monitors have their refresh rate capped so I would still state that you wouldn't be able to get 1440p@120Hz on them. Feel free to prove me wrong of course (and given the issues with the ROG Swift I'd happily jump on the ship and buy one too!!)

So your saying it's perfectly ok to have 3D Vision shown in the advertisement, even if it doesn't support it, because it's generic advertising?

I'm not saying it's okay... far from it, I think it's incredibly misleading and wrong. If you look at most of the adverts they do tend to be for the "XB0 Gaming Series" rather than a specific monitor though which is how I think they get away with it, and from that point it seems to be mash up of critical features for each monitor, without always identifying which monitor they're talking about. If you look at the New Egg page too at the reviews on the right, the top critical review does say that it isn't 3D and that the advert needs changing. Shame as I would have been very keen.
As I mentioned earlier though, I'm definitely very interested to see how the XR341CK fares.
@lohan - I have to say I'd love to try 3 x 27" in surround but that will require a lot of real estate and (depending how close/far away you'll be) some pretty special peripheral vision. Pixel pushing should be the same assuming they're all 1080p screens so it's definitely all about whether you can cope with the size at your playing distance or not for me. And which have the slimmest bezels!!

Might be worth holding out for the new ACER Predator XR341CK (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/32.htm#acer_xr341ck) seems like it might be the best of all worlds that one!!

@bo3b
