How did Nvidia let these glasses go through quality control like this?
Ok, so they look much more geeky then the first ones, but im not wearing them as a fashion statement, but the reflective rims are just plain stupid.
The rims are now a good 5-6 mm on the top and bottom and relect the screen infront of you, meaning sat in dark playing 3d i can see my screen in both the top and bottom rims via reflection!
this is terrible terrible design. Seriously, how could you make such a terrible mistake? I notied it straight away even though i had never read about it. How did you testers not. notice this. How is everyone else finding them?
Lightboost is fantasic however (but this is a property of the monitors not glasses) so as far as i can see, other then the improved battery life, these glases are a big step backwards. Will be looking to sell them and keep my originals as they seem far better.

I think they are fine, when I'm sat in the dark playing 3d games I dont really notice the reflections. Maybe you are just more sensitive to "stupidity"?

Don't really know what thats supposed to mean, but when im playing its like a kaleidoscope of reflections in a full circle (even the sides reflect) but its worst at the top and bottom. I have tried both type 1 and 2 glasses, ghosting is identical, but the type 2 add so much noise pollution its really offputting. Ive given it another go sicne my post and to be honest the longer i played the more aware of it i became. Slipped on nvidia 1 glasses and poof! all the problems went away.
I surely can't be the only one thinks this is a big problem for the new glasses design. Maybe its made worse by my huge monitor (27")...

hmm... take some fine grit sandpaper and sand the gloss off the edges. of course don't touch the lenses. I don't have the glasses, but thats the first idea I had when I heard about the reflecting. I plan on buying some newer glasses next year. I'm sure by then only v2 will be around, so thats what I plan on doing.

Yeah it has been mentioned before. You are absolutely right it is a school-boy design error. nVidia are great at the tech side of things but they seem very inexperienced with other things. Why would a graphic hardware and software manufacture be aware of D&T? They are not that hot at recognising good 3D either. Their rating of excellent for Crysis 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution's 3D dispite both games having minimal 3D depth seems to back this up!
On a constructive note, what some people have done is use matt paint on the shiney surface of the glasses to remove the shine. (Obviously have a quick search on this board to see exactly what people have done!) But this has fixed the reflective problem.

I think removing the gloss is a good idea but having the lenses recessed further into the glasses should stay. I have noticed that my glasses stay a lot cleaner than the old designs and have less scratches on them in the same period of time as the old ones. I have always been pretty careful with how I clean them and store them and the new design helps with this.

Lol, yeah crysis 2 is NOT true 3D, it seems to have forground backround and middle ground frames and thats it, there is no depth (just stand by stairs and look at the railings, they are parrallel even on 100% depth.
As for the glasses, I'm not going to paint them, but thanks for the advice. It sounds to extreme and i know i will only end up ruining them and making them worthless for re-sale. The only thing i would be tempted to do is put so put some black felt etc on the rim, but wouldnt know how to stick it without leaving residue. Each time i try them on I get more annoyed. They make it feel like im looking down a tunnel towards my monitor (as the reflections are all around.) This means that even though the FOV is roughly the same as the original glasses, it feels MUCH MUCH more restricted, like wearing a diving mask.
I'll likely sell them as they are worth more then the original. The battery life on the original is still massivly high, i only recharge once a month or longer. I really hope Nvidia read these problems and updates occordingly. I also don't understand how this doesnt get destroyed in reviews, makes me think that the fact my monitor is big and when gaming i sit very close to it really exasperated the problem. The frames need to be non reflective and also as small as possible. I personally feel that the fact the frames stick out completly negates the 'extra' fov the large lenses are suppoed to offer as the frames block your FOV by produding... seems really backwards.
Good job on lightboost though, bloody glad it works on my original glasses otherwise i would be realy torn!!
Thanks for your advice though, its appreciated.

Fair enough, ive been quiete anal about keeping them in their bag, and i clean them only very gently with the supplied cloth. No problems with scratches, but i can understand that for the average user the new recess could be handy.

yeah its really annoying, i've complained about its multiple times in different threads and so have other ppl. hopefully nvidia has noticed the complaints and will alter the design accordingly for the next version. Until then, i think using sandpaper to take off the glossy finish is the best method. just take your time and be careful and theres not much risk to it, cover the lenses with paper/tape or something while you do it, if you want to be extra safe. I think painting isnt that great of an idea in comparison to just sanding it off, but it would work too as long as you made sure to get a matte paint and definitely cover the lenses up well.

While its definitely true the recessed lenses help cut down on dust/dirt and fingerprints on the glasses, I've also found it largely negates the "extra 20%" larger lenses as well, since that extra frame cuts down on FOV.
As for the OP's complaint, its well-documented so it really should not have blind-sided you. I don't think anyone here had any hand in missing it during QA or testing as Nvidia just kind of sprung out of the ground with the announcement and release of 3D Vision 2 glasses. If you go back to Oct-Nov on these forums you'll see quite a bit of nerdrage and angst over the fact Nvidia didn't give more of a heads-up there were new 3D Vision products about to hit the market.
There's a number of good solutions listed already, like fine grit sandpaper or matte finish paint. I personally used a bit of blue painter's tape cut down to fit the nose portion of the right lens. I'm right eye dominant so that's the only part of the frame that gives any noticeably annoying reflection. Took about 5 minutes to fix the problem in a non-permanent fashion.
Overall though the new glasses are much nicer and more comfortable imo, especially with headphones and some additional modifications to the arms, they just need to change the glossy finish to matte on the frames.

I saw a few mentions about the reflective surface on the glasses in reviews, but it was always compared with the original ones, and never made out to be much of a problem. I read pretty much every review online (at least 10) and no reviewer wrote about the kinf of tunnel vision Kaleidoscope im getting. I really dont have a problem with the first ones comfort at all, the hurt like hell at first but i think they are broken in now. I also dont use headphones or wear glasses so that means i dont benefit so much from the new design.
Anyway thanks for the ideas, i might think about taping the glasses, but in reality i think i just prefer the originals so will likely sell them. Thanks for the input though.

yeah this has been bothering me for months, I just can't bring myself to attempt a fix as I'm so clumsy. but I just now thought about sticking a thin slice of hockey tape on there, maybe that would do the trick, I'll probably try that at some point.

I wear them "further down my nose". Like almost at tip of my nose. I dont see relections this way. This may be more due to my head shape, can't guarantee it will work for you.

I see what you mean yes. sadly doesn't work for me as my monitor is setup higher than average combined with the fact that I prefer resting the arms of the glasses on top of the headphones rather than squeezing them in.

Listed the nvidia 2 glasses for sale, problem solved ;-) i really prefer the old ones in everyway (other then battery and for wearing headphones). The new ones feel like wearing an old style single lens scuba mask to me, it really feels like tunnel vision and elss FOV even though i know the lens are bigger.
Will be telling me friends with NVidia 3d NOT to 'upgrade' to these glasses as they have been enquiring, and to wait until the next generation. Can't wait until they invent wrap around LCD (if thats even possible) as then the glasses could be like the new oakley passive 3d glasses, they actually look cool! Great other bonus with wrap is you dont see the frame jutting out at the bottoms etc (which is what made me feel like it had less FOV, even if it was an optical illusion.)

I prefer my nvidia 2 glasses better than my broken nvidia 1 ones, but I called freak-glasses then, and I have to do de same now. Really freak design, then and now. I must be carefull to prevent anybody to see me when I wear it, I feel ridiculous. Nvidia should make a natural design glasses, the only reason to make it freaky is the battery space required, but it seems not to be very big. In the other hand I appreciate the improvement in the battery life, and the overall image quality. It wouldn't be a bad idea to make differetn desingns, to fit different taste and needs.

On a constructive note, what some people have done is use matt paint on the shiney surface of the glasses to remove the shine. (Obviously have a quick search on this board to see exactly what people have done!) But this has fixed the reflective problem.

I have noticed that my glasses stay a lot cleaner than the old designs and have less scratches on them in the same period of time as the old ones. I have always been pretty careful with how I clean them and store them and the new design helps with this.

Fair enough, ive been quiete anal about keeping them in their bag, and i clean them only very gently with the supplied cloth. No problems with scratches, but i can understand that for the average user the new recess could be handy.
