Active 3D and Nvidia 3D Vision
Hi there, I have been looking for and found a basic 3D monitor, it's the 'ACER Predator GN246HLBbi' Now the retailer says it is "Active 3D" and on the next line "3D Vision ..." so my question do I 'have' to have Nvidia glasses and IR, or can I use general (Far cheaper) active 3D glasses? This matters as the cost of non nvidia glasses would mean several pairs for the price of one Nvidia set. With the added benefit of not putting people off by the fact they have to share. OKay well thanks and I hope someone can answer this. Ack one more question if a monitor is Nvidia 3D ready does that mean the ir is built in and therefore i'd only need the nvidia specs? Zara....

Hi again. Is there anybody who can say if the above monitor can be used with non Nvidia glasses? I know it's at the low end of the market but times are tight! Zara

No, you would need to use the NVidia glasses with that monitor. Other 3D glasses are not likely to work. There are lots of different kinds of 3D technology and mostly they are incompatible, so you need to use whatever it's designed for. This monitor (minus the Bbi ending- if that changes it), supports NVidia 3D vision directly, and not other kinds of 3D. It also does not come with the emitter so you'd need a full kit to make it work. One emitter can drive multiple glasses, so you only need one emitter. For cost, you might want to go with different 3D monitors that come with their own glasses, and use the 3D TV Play software instead. It's usually a bit lower quality, but might meet your needs.
