3D question
Hey guys, I have a question regarding 3D gaming. I am considering getting a 3D monitor.
However, I have a concern and I can't find any information. If I do go with the transition to 3D gaming in 1080p(Single Monitor) Will it affect FPS?
At the moment my rig is superb and can run any game flawlessly and I would like to achieve that with the 3D transition.

3D will always cut your FPS in half, since the GPU is essentially rendering the same game twice from two different perspectives.

580 SLI will be a great experience in 3D Vision, few better set-ups in terms of scaling and efficiency imo. High-end SLI set-ups aren't always going to drop FPS in half because of CPU/game engine limitations, framecaps/Vsync and extra unused GPU overhead. A better expectation and comparison is if you run a single GPU with Vsync enabled at your desired settings, that's what you can expect for 3D Vision in terms of FPS in 3D Vision with 2 cards in SLI.

There's very few games you won't be able to run flawlessly with 2x580 at 60FPS per eye in 3D, but there are a few that you may not get 60FPS per eye or might require you to turn some settings down. Metro 2033, Battlefield 3, Battlefield: BC2, Batman Arkham City (DX11), Witcher 2 (with ubersampling), Just Cause 2 are a few that come to mind.

Also, it didn't show in Mods Rigs if you OC or not, but you may consider OC'ing your CPU a bit if you're not already. Even though you will be doubling GPU load in 3D, some games are CPU limited and faster CPUs can help reduce any drops in FPS which can show up as drops in minimum FPS in non-GPU limited situations. With 3D Vision, the demands on your GPUS are unique in the sense you are looking for MIN FPS to be 60, all the time if possible.
