To those who own an H5360 and a small 120hz monitor as well... A question on the H5360's separat
For a while now I've been planning to get an H5360 because of how much of a difference people say a big screen makes in 3D, but recently I've been reading more and more here about how the separation levels are so low and the depth isn't that great compared to the small 120hz monitors.

I'm used to playing at 100% depth with my 2233rz and I feel the experience is kind of gimped whenever I don't. I also don't want to jump through hoops and revert to old drivers and edit the registry just to force 100% - So if the separation is really that low that it cuts down on being able to see into the scene, I'd rather just be done with it and get a Mitsu DLP that works at 100% depth out of the box.....and the higher resolution in 3D would be nice.

Hi,

I bought a h5360, got it two days ago. I havent had long to use it, only a 5 min test. However i can say that the depth is definitely lower than the 22" monitor. I would guess from memory it felt like 40 percent depth, although the dongle was set at 100 percent. I am going to do the registry changes tonight and see if that works. Hope it does!
I gotta say though i was still very pleased as there was no ghosting that i could see, and the size is awesome. BUT im not happy that the depth is lower, i will be in 3d gaming heaven if the registry changes work.

What changes did you make in the registry? I just got this projector yesterday and the depth is less than my Viewsonic and when I view videos it loses sync about 30 seconds in and all I see is red/green instead of 3D. If I pause the clip it slowly comes back into focus. No issues with games yet.

I went back to my 24" Acer and find the 3D experience better. I did an a b test with the 5360 against the 24" acer and while the 5360 has no ghosting and much bigger screen. I find the depth and sharpness much better on the Acer 24". I will keep my 5360 for 3D movies but for games im gonna stick with the Acer 24" monitor for games.

I have a 40"/46" screen for all mycomputers and i had to go back to a small 17" for a week while my tv got fixed and it was the most painfull thing I could have done. With exception or private matters ;)

I always wanted to have the BEST POSSIBLE 3D experience and for me there was always the question whether to buy a monitor or a projector:

Ok, now I own BOTH a H5360 Projector (70'' screen) and the new HN274H (27'') monitor. For everyone out there who is not sure what gives the better experience overall, here my thoughts:

For me personally after quite some analysis, there is not THE best solution, it depends on what you want to do

1.Resolution: Projector has 1280x720, monitor has 1920x1080. In games full HD looks clearly better, however in movies the perceived difference between full HD and HD ready is MUCH smaller. This is quite an interesting observation in my view, and could really simplify your buying decision.

2.Size: Even if the projector has the smaller resolution, NEVER underestimate the effect of a BIG screen in 3D. I was sceptical of the projector first, because of the low resolution, but a 70'' screen is just stunning and because of the high filling factor of DLP projectors, the low resolution is not that bad.Some my think, that if you sit at close distance from the monitor, it's the same because the screens also seems to be big then: Trust me, it is not. I think this has to do with accomodation of the eye: It's just much more convenient to have a 2.5 m distance of a 70'' screen than to sit 1 m from a 27'' screen eventhough the ratio is the same. Somehow the experience is much more immersive on a big screen.

3.Crosstalk: ZERO crosstalk on the projector, this is a huge advantage in high contrast scenes as for example in games like BAD COMPANY 2 (snow levels) or MAFIA. Really nice to see ZERO crosstalk, there is no monitor outthere who can perform this

5.Brightness: Because 3D glasses from Nvidia only hace a transmittance of about 15%, high brightness is quite important. If you own a monitor from the first or the second generation (22 to 24''), some models only have about 300 cd/m2 which is not sufficient in my eyes. For a good experience, brightness should be about 500 cd/m2. It's possible to proof that, I made some calculations: THX recommends a minimum of 16 footlamberts (in cinemas), better 22 footlamberts in dark environment (which I assume you have when using 3D). This corresponds to about 55 cd/m2, and 75 cd/m2 (1fL = 3.426 cd/m2) respectively. Assuming that glasses have 15% transmittance (I have this value from a page from a measurement, unfortunately I don't find the source anymore, just believe me:-)), you need to have at least about 55/15*100 = 366 cd/m2, or 75/15*100 = 550 cd/m2. The projector in 'Eco mode' (Normal mode is too loud for me) give me 470cd/m2 on the 70'' screen which is ok. The HN274 monitor, eventhough it's rated at 300 cd/m2 has 500 cd/m2 (see also review on 3D Vision Blog). This is also ok. However as I said, older monitor often are just too dark.

6. Refresh rate: Monitor can do 100Hz, 110Hz or 120Hz in 3D. Projector can do only 120Hz in 3D. While the flicker in 100Hz is there in bright scenes, it's not too annoying to me, as there are three huge advantages while running the monitor at 100Hz instead of 120Hz. First, crosstalk is noticeable less, because the pixels have more time to switch. Second, your PC only has to achieve 50fps in games to have vsync for a smooth gameplay instead of 60Hz (I don't like to have less fps than refresh rate in 3D games as there is always vsync in 3D). And third, when watching movies (3D Blu Rays) you can use 'Reclock' to speed up your movies from 24fps to 25fps, which gives a buttersmooth experience. As opposed to 120Hz where the 60 Hz always have to be segmented into 3:2 pull-down, which gives a little jidder in medium speed motions in movies. So, this is a little drawback of the projector, which only can do 120Hz.

7.Price: Comparing the H5360 with the new HN274 there is not much difference. However, if you want to buy a monitor of the first or second generation (which I would not recommend, mainly because of more crosstalk and/or darker screens) you can go cheaper.

FINAL verdict for me: I will keep both, the monitor AND the projector: When playing games I clearly prefer the monitor mainly because of the better resolution (except when I play very high contrast games, when crosstalk my become a little annoying on the monitor). When watching 3D movies, I clearly prefer the projector mainly because of the huge screen. (AVATAR movie on this projector is just unbelievable).

So, I hope that with my experience I could help some people out there to make your choice easier.

I own an Acer H5360 and an LG 23" 3D monitor as well. There is a big difference between the two. I don't get really any ghosting on the projector but I do use the reghack to increase depth more to my liking. It's great for everything. I bought the monitor for when I go to gaming sessions and I've also been happy with it. There is some ghosting and I have to keep the depth down a bit, but after getting used to it, it looks great. I can game at 1080p in 3D on it and that brings out alot more detail in the games. It's hard to say, but I still prefer my acer simply because of the no ghosting, but they are both great for there own reasons.

I have the 5360 and the samsung 2233rz, i had the monitor first and we wanted to get a projector kinda for the hell of it so we made sure we got one that would do it all (PS3\X360\PC\3D) and i would say that the max depth on the projector is about 50-60% on a monitor, which for me is fine because thats what i usually play at anyway. The good thing with the projector is i have it on a white matt wall at 80" and as there is no ghosting, this makes it pretty awesome. Downside is i have to move my PC over to the other side of the room which is more effort than it sounds. The monitor is very convenient, some games i leave until i have the PC on the projector (bad company 2 being one of them because it looks horrid on a monitor).

Yes, the principal downside of the projector is that we must move the keyboard and the mouse (must be cordless) to use the projector... it is a confort problem. Also projector demand too much electrical power, make some noise, and has only 720p. I have H5360 and Samsung 2233RZ monitor and I use the 2233rz practically always, playing at 100 hz because 120hz makes the scene darker and with more ghosting.

I´m waiting for a better monitor (zero ghosting) to change my good 2233RZ, I´m not waiting any projector. I use the porjector only to view movies practically.

Never used my monitor (samsung 2233rz) again for playing 3D.
The Reg-Hack did the thing for me...depth-overkill! /blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':blink:' />
No ghosting anymore, which made 3D nearly unplayable for me.
Only Problem with beamer could be the comfort...but headset
and wirless keyboard/mouse/gamepad are the solution for me.
Another big point for beamer is the SIZE!!! Yes...even in
HDready-Quality the games look great because the picture is
sooo big. And AA is keeping blocky graphics away here.
