Wanna do the 3D thing as cheaply as possible. Never experienced 3D in my life. I have a 970 running an Asus VG248QE.
Looking over threads it looks like graphics processing power is a factor (will one 970 be enough?) and I cannot get a handle on whether cheaper (much cheaper), 3d party glasses might work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One 970 will be enough, but for the latest games you will need to reduce a few game settings.
Since your monitor is 3D Vision Ready, you really just need to get a 3D Vision Kit. You need this to get the 3D emitter (a little pyramid shaped IR emitter), and you can only buy them with glasses. You might find one by itself on eBay or Craig's list but honestly just buy the kit and you won't have any problems. A 3D vision 2 kit is best, but to be honest I can't tell difference between my 3D Vision 1 and 3D Vision 2 glasses (the emitter is exactly the same in both cases). Amazon has both v1 and v2 kits for about $150. Go for it, you won't regret it, then come back here for all the help and advice you need.

I saw the $60 wired glasses on Amazon and thought that was all I needed. I really cannot afford $150 just to try something out so I guess I will put that on the back burner. Maybe one day I will have $150 to blow!
Thank You so much for the info.

The wired kit will work as well. It is a reasonable choice. I would definitely encourage you to give it a try.
If you decide that it's not what you expected, you can always do easy returns with Amazon.
So I could just buy the wired below and it would work? I don't need the emitter? If so I will definitely try that. I don't mind wires. Especially when they cost half.

Yep, those will work with your monitor. Emitter is only for the wireless part, the wire takes the place of that. If you don't mind wires, this is a good choice.

Curious, does anyone know whether or not the wired 3D glasses enable 3DTV Play also or is it just the emitter from the 3D Vision Kit?
@MrMouth
Unlock Convergence and mess around with it a bit in-game, it adjusts the point at with the two viewpoints(L/R) converge, go here for community 3D game fixes and of course stick around here and pick up a ton of stuff. :)

Answering my own question, yes the wired 3D Vision glasses do enable 3DTV Play. :)

Anything else I should know? Any threads I should absolutely read?
Thanks for the help.
