Tron Evolution ! How good is the Vision 3D ? S3D players report in
The in-game shadows have some issues, and dont work right in 3D.
how suprising... Is it really that hard for developers to look at UDK / UDK codebase, that apparently fixed stereoscopic rendering issues?

Many shadowing algorythms that look good require steps in screen space and there for end up with incorrect depth. This is true of water as well.
The only way this is going to get solved is either because Sony will drive console developers to fix it as 3D becomes a checkbox item on PS3, and PC games will inherit the fix.
Or PC 3D suddenly becomes important enough on PC to drive technical decisions early in development, at which point NVidia probably doesn't need to do the auto 3D in the driver thing at all.

I thought the 3D for this game was superb, much better than Disney's Toy Story 3, Have a look for your selves here

Haha! I thought the opposite. Tron looks okay, but I thought Toy Story 3 looked absolutely brilliant in 3d! Adjust convergence so the character you're playing is at screen depth and you get good depth and really really nice pop-out, and all of the shadows, lighting, sky, and even the crosshair, are all rendered just fine. :)

Tron looks ok in 3D, but it doesn't seem to have tons of depth like other games. I thought this game was 3D ready, however there's zero control in the options about 3D stuff.

Luckily this game is not 3D ready!!! Because "3D ready" usually means that the manual convergence adjustment is locked and this often causes flat 3D effects. With the right convergence settings (use the hotkeys for the nvidia driver) You can get a very good depth perception in Tron.

You're right, I actually did adjust some stuff a bit after I posted that and it is better. However, now the lighting halos etc are all wonky.

I beat this game the other day. The beginning of the last level looks BADASS in 3D. You have lots of layers of rain, so the depth is really obvious.

In my case switching off bloom (or blure?) in the graphic options helped to prevent this problem.

I wonder how good the 3D effects in the movie will be. The trailers looked quite flat... I guess that compared to the game the movie will be quite disappointing concerning the 3D effects. Had the same experience with Avatar. After playing the game Avatar I permanently felt the need to adjust depth and convergence when I watched the movie Avatar /wacko.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I saw the movie last weekend (which made me want the game), and the 3D is done well and looks great, but yeah, compared to games the 3D effect isn't quite as prominent. I don't think I've seen a movie yet that looks as good as games do in 3D. However, I think it's a good middle ground considering in movies you really are restricted to look at what the camera is focused on, otherwise your eyes will be trying and trying to focus on something in the background that is blurred because in the camera it's out of focus (or artificially done in CG effects).

Thanks for the tip about the halos. I'll try that next time I fire it up.

I agree with this. The 3D is well done, but the depth will be shallow to anyone used to 3D Vision. We've been spoiled by the adjustable depth and convergence offered in PC games!

I still hope that the movie makers will risk to use more distinct 3D effects when the crowd will get used to 3D. It seems to me that they don't want to overstrain the beginners at the moment. The best solution would be to provide two versions of a movie: for beginners and for advanced - but that's utopian of course. Nevertheless technically there should be (much) more possible as there are yet obvious differences between the movies. You can observe it when there a trailers of different 3D movies in succession. Resident Evil Afterlife for example provided great 3D effects. They even managed to provide depth to panoramas of landscapes! It didn't look very realistic (a little bit like a model railway...) but was very satisfying to a 3D vision spoiled person like me /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' /> Next week I will try The Chronicles of Narnia. The trailer was quite promising concerning the 3D effects...

I also saw the movie the other day in 3D it was nice how they did it, was only in 3D in the digital world, real world was 2D (that sounds messed up!!! lol) but TBH it really didn't need the 3D treatment, maybe would have been more worth it if there was more depth/popout though.

After playing with the convergence a lot, this game actually does look outstanding in 3D. I just wish I could get AA to work. I can't seem to force it from Nvidia Control panel and there are no in-game options...

As for the game, it has great Tron atmosphere and the gameplay is fun but has a lot of issues that make it mediocre. There's tons of potential for it to be awesome, but LOTS of small gameplay/design issues hinder what would otherwise be a solid movie licensed game (if such a thing could exist). It's about the quality of the Avatar game, but the combat is more fun in Tron for sure.

Agreed. Tron has some amazing visuals in 3d now that I've played more of it. I was really excited when I got into my first light cycle! The combos for the character with the light disc makes for flexible skillsets. The look, atmosphere, and gameplay is much better than Tron 2.0.

Here's to hoping they will sort out some of the issues with the halo affect.
