I have a 2011 Samsung plasma tv. (PN43D490) Purchased for less than $600 it was a great 3D deal!
After playing Crysis2 in 3D on my Fujitsu laptop, (interlaced display, Intel Sandybridge graphics), I thought I'd give the game a chance on my desktop/MMPC and 43" plasma.
While the frame rate on a GTX460 using Crysis2's native 3D support is sometimes a mixed bag, it is playable and with the sound feeding my TV/Sound system its quite enjoyable.
My laptop came with 'tridef' drivers which allow me to turn off 3D in the game and allow the tridef drivers 'simulate' 3D which in most cases can enable a much higher frame rate than using the games native mode.
With the above thought in mind, I purchased a '3d play' key from Nvidia so that I could do pretty much the same thing with Crysis2 on my MMPC - let 3D vision take care of the 3D rendering instead of the game.
However, while I can enable 2 different 3D screen modes (both ugly) on the desktop, I can't enable 3Dvision or play the game with the vision drivers doing the 3D. (the game crashes with an error message)
Why is it that the game itself can do 3D natively on BOTH my laptop AND with my 3D plasma but I can't seem to get the Nvidia driver to work?
I have a few more games I'd love to play on the GFX460/Plasma but since they don't have native 3D built into them, all I can get is 2D without the 3Dvison working.
My 3D vision enabled MMPC WILL work with a 120hz Asus display with a 3D vision kit, but I want it to work with my 3D tv over the hdmi cable. (and with the 3dplay key that I spent $40 on)
Considering that just about all HDMI 1.4a 3D displays recognize SBS and TB frame formats, (I think they are required) why can't 3DVison?

Crysis2 works excellent with the Patch 1.9 in 3D. Only bad thing is, that you can't adjust convergence, so there is nearly no popout. Not that I need the 3D-effect direct into my face, but a bit more popout would be fine.

Have you updated the game to patch 1.9?

Nevermind, the 1.9 patch fixes the in game rendering. I had read where it was posted "•Crysis 2 – rating changed to Excellent. NVIDIA recommends using the v1.9 game patch."

Hi
No this isnt what it means. The rendering is done by Crysis 2. We updated the rating since there were some changes to the game engine to improve 3D.

Only some of the "Mitsubishi" 3D HDTVs are on the requirement list for "3D Vision". You do indeed need 3DTV Play, but it will not enable/activate until your TV is on the requirement list, see how to add it here http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2774 Keep in mind that you must also have the game resolution set to 720P@60 or 1080P@24

Actually you can set convergence, separation and other 3D parameters in the game.cfg file in the users/saved games/crysis2 folder when using V1.9 patch:
-- [Game-Configuration]
-- Attention: Make file read only to prevent game from changing it!

Press Ctrl+T to toggle stereo on/off, Ctrl+F3/F4 to adjust depth, Crtl+F11 to adjust frustum (correct mirrowed edges) and Ctrl+F7 to save the changed profile

I have a fix. Its not from the game manufacturer (v1.9 is actually broken) OR from Nvidia. It is from the WEB.
My tv was missing one small file of software (or the nvidia card is missing one small functionality) an .inf file!!!!
Thats all it took. Granted Samsung does not provide .inf files for their tvs so I had to do a websearch and find "Monitor EDID Override Installation Disk" which is simply an .inf file that enables all 3D modes possible.
So there you have it! My PN43D490 playing all my PC games in 3D. If only Nvidia hardware/software was able to read the EDID FROM THE TV and not have to rely on .inf files. (sigh)
(BTW: I will NOT be patching Crysis2 to v1.9 as it breaks save/restore game and v1.8 is the highest version that actually works and is playable)
Thanks for all the help anyway. I just installed DragonsAge Origins this afternoon and while its support is only "good", it looks awesome on the plasma!

Thanks for all the help anyway. I just installed DragonsAge Origins this afternoon and while its support is only "good", it looks awesome on the plasma!
