using an acer H5360
attempting to open the 3d vision setup wizard gives me the following:
"Error in StereoCPLAPI,
Settings->setDefaultStartupMode() returned false."
then when i try to install the latest geforce driver, as the previous. i get an installation error:
"can't open/create old keys in the registry"
i think this may be due to the 3d vision depth hack i tried which tampered with the registry, is there any way to simply undo what it has done?
and yes, this is still occurring after uninstalling and reinstalling all the NVIDIA drivers/software
could any of this mean device recognition has been corrupted and i now need an EDID override for the H5360?
... clearly wasn't my depthhack, I've warned about using the 'locking the key' method before. :P Anyway, the first error could be due to the locked key, not sure. The time I tried locking it I couldn't even take screenshots ... which is one of the reasons I came up with an alternate method. The second error pretty much comes right out and says it's due to the locked key.
Download this, unzip it somewhere and run @AllowRunAsAdmin.bat as admin(right-click > run as admin) that will unlock the registry key.
... if you have any other installation errors I'd suggest deleting the NVIDIA 'temp' folder (C:\NVIDIA\) as it's been known to use the already unpacked files located there, instead of unpacking them again, and if they're corrupted they'll keep causing problems on reinstall ... and possibly try doing a clean reinstall if necessary.

edit: think I found something, under normal circumstances the above(@AllowRunAsAdmin.bat) will allow the key to be written but when it's locked it has to be run twice(?) ... not sure 'why' it fails the first time but I updated it with a simple fail-safe in case the other hack wasn't disabled properly(which it won't because running it's allow.bat as admin won't succeed as it doesn't pass the current directory so it can't find the txt file ...) it'll pause and ask to Try Again?
[s]What DepthHack were you using? Can you post what locked the key in the first place? And what was supposed to unlock it? ... that's the only key I've seen locked, unless something else was locked intentionally or by mistake.
Can you navigate to the key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D) using regedit? Right-Click it, select permissions, and check all users/groups that none of the permissions are set to either 'Deny' or 'Read-Only'.[/s]

registry permissions
tsaebeht, does your depth hack need to be reloaded for every game? every time?
is it just a matter of opening the 3 bat files when the game is open? or just once even if nothing is running for ALL game launches thereafter?
@AllowRunAsAdmin.bat - Only needs to be run once ... as admin, to allow the DepthHack to write the value without the need to be run as admin. This way you can run the DepthHack from a hot key(AHK) and it seamlessly minimizes itself without the UAC prompt.
@DepthHackEngine.bat - Works with most games, run it before the game(via hot key or shortcut key) When the game starts the drivers reset the value and the script detects it, sets it back and exits. With most games the drivers only reset the value once on you.
@DepthHackEngineLoop.bat - Some games will for some reason either keep triggering the drivers to reset the value or at the very least do it more than once(FarCry3 after they added fake 3D), running this one will constantly loop, checking the value and setting back when necessary.
@DepthHackEngineDebug.bat - Is the 'looping' version that outputs 'timestamps' to a file whenever the value is changed, 'for debugging'
The looping versions Query(read) the value 100s of times a second and then only write it whenever it detects a change, I've tried slowing it down but then it wasn't fast enough to catch it before it stuck ... it's much better than the looping version that I saw that was hammering(writing) the registry 100s of times a second, another reason I came up with this ... I'm always tinkering with it here and there, like just updating the allow code to work even after the other one was used. :)
