AC4 Blackflag: Framerate hack, pseudo 3d fps drop concerninly high
Hey all, haven't posted in a while, good to see old faces.
I have tried a few things that promised to get more fps out of AC4. I notice that my fps is consistently smooth, with 3d off... Once I enable it, I get a much more varied fps, it can drop quite a lot.
I thought that pseudo 3d was a light hit on framerate... Crysis 3 for instance. Is this related to the framerate hacks people are talking about?
What settings have you guys found best?
Thanks :-)
I have sli 670's, with i7 @ 4.2ghz.

AC3 and 4 are poorly optimised to start with, many people have framerate issues in 3d with them, even with this new "fake" 3d. I'm not sure whether the blame rests with nVidia or Ubisoft (though I suspect Ubisoft), but it's got problems in that department.
This new 3d is in it's first beta release though, so it's quite possible we'll see improvements down the line.

Ok, the program 'd3d overider', whom people are using to hack it, can enable triple buffering, and force vsync. This appears to fix the problem to a degree, but once the scene ends or you start a new mission, it will return to the standard bad framerate, 30 each eye I think. If you quit to desktop and reload mission, it comes smooth again.
I will try a few other things...

I thought 3D vision enabled triple buffering inherently?
I seem to recall something about Stereo3D not being able to work at all without triple buffering.
Also, the vast majority of games nowadays have triple buffering enabled by default in their engines.
nvidia allows you to control triple buffering for openGL only.
Well, I ran AC4 without the d3doverider's force vsync and triple buffering, and actually the problem persists.
Why does restarting the program and reloading into the exact same spot in a town, boost my framerate?
It can be very smooth, or slow, in the same spot.
