New to 3d gaming, NCP set up uncooperative
I'm extremely excited to get games running in 3d, but so far I've been running into puzzling obstacles that are leading me further and further back toward setup problems. I hope someone can help clear this up. The problem: My TV is a Sony kdl50w600b. It has built in 3d capabilities and I've successfully watched 3d movies. I've been attempting to run my first game in 3d: Alien Isolation using helixmod with no apparent success. My troubleshooting searches have led me to tutorials that do not seem to apply. What I've tried: Specifically, when I try to enable stereoscopic 3d in NVidia control panel, the setup procedure fails. First of all, in step two I'm asked to turn on my glasses, which I cannot do since they are seemingly unpowered. Nevertheless, NCP recognizes that I have 3d glasses and moves on to step three. Step three then fails. I'm asked to choose the image that best represents what I see in the test pattern. For both eyes, I choose the box with the purple triangle. NCP doesn't like this and resets the set up and I'm back to square one. Solution? I'm assuming that for now this is a hurdle I have to pass before I can play 3d games. Can anything be done? Am I on the wrong track here? Or am I wrong in thinking my TV can display games in 3d? -Q

To access Nvidia's "Stereoscopic Gaming Drivers", you'll need to purchase 3DTV Play. 3DTV Play costs $40 and acts as a product key to unlock the middleware. There's a free trial that you can use for now. Unfortunately, the activation servers are on the fritz. So it's currently not being sold. BTW: The only way that you should be seeing the same image in each eye, is if you are using Dual View/Split Screen glasses and not 3D glasses. If you indeed have 3D glasses and are seeing the same image in each eye, try reinstalling the drivers using DDU (Direct Driver Uninstaller)

First, thanks for your help. Those 3dtv play drivers did the trick and I'm now able to play in 3d. I don't do this often, but W00T! Second, it turns out my glasses have an "on" button. Once I clicked the button, the test image issue I had cleared right up and my system passed the test. (Don't ask me why there is an ON button, because the glasses don't seem to be powered. There are no ports for charging or battery slots. The lenses look just like any ordinary polarized version you'd find at a movie theater to my untrained eye, just with a sturdier frame. All I know is the ON button worked.) Also, I did this before I installed 3dtv play. The timing is probably irrelevant but I'm surprised it worked without the drivers. Lastly, in NCP I've enabled stereoscopic 3d. However, the depth slider is greyed out and so are the buttons labeled "Change 3d Laser Sight" and "Set Keyboard Shortcuts". Any idea what's going on there? -Q
