The Secret World? Work ok in 3D?
  1 / 2
Hope this game does though Funcom's Dreamworld engine didn't place nice in Age of Conan. I know the engine has been "heavily modified" however...Hopefully this game won't be another great MMO down at the bottom of nVidia's "Not Recommended" list. I already bailed on Rift for lack of 3D support.

Anyone know of any word from either company?

Everything is true, vaelo - including the fact that Secret World supports 3D Vision. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

It's hard to tell how well it will work but Funcom is giving the 3D a shot!

Can any1 in beta support this? I get very optimistic when it comes to someone saying its 3d ready nowadays, mmo's especially due to patching. Its also said to support 3d vision surround which is not often tested though it would be first mmo to support. While it definetly will be cool if it does.

I expect they are still under NDA. If they tell us, Cthulhu will eat them.

Some issues with shadows in 3D and cutscene/UI scaling at surround resolutions. No SLI profile at this point.

Desperately need a driver update! Shouldn't be a problem since nvidia is demoing Secret World at the MeetUps.

Well, this is how it looks with a Nvidia GTX590 card as of today:

AMD users says its perfectly fine on their computers, but using a Nvidia card the clipping is just insane, and cut-scenes are just as bad. Ground and walls disapear etc.

Issues:

1. HUD is insane large and stretched.
2. Ground and walls disapear in certain areas.

And thats about it. :)

I gave it a go on the weekend, and i noticed it had a number of issues normally, but after a crash of the game and a restart it's like the game kicked into it's native support mode, everything was perfect, 3d quest markers/nameplates/shadows at the right depth, 3d cursor. But unfortuneatly after 100 restarts i couldn't replicate it. I added the dx11 client to the profile in the latest beta drivers and the pop up was 3d ready. I am thinking they have something that needs to be turned on in the engine, but at the moment it's not working.

Well, I guess the game isn't open beta right now but they do seem to be letting people in by the thousands. A few quick 3D tips:

1. DirectX 9 is right out. Don't even try. The drivers say it's '3D Ready' but it looks horrific! Use DX11 so the drivers revert to generic mode. You'll need to mess with your convergence setting to keep the world from trying to pop out through the user interface.

2. Go ahead and crank all the graphics all the way up on the main settings. Then go to advanced and turn the lighting slide bar all the way down to make shadows and fog go away. The grass has issues, too, when drawn in the distance so you'll probably want to tone that down to level 2. You can leave the rest cranked up.

The fact that the game works worse with the NVIDIA drivers than without tells me that there's probably more to come on this front.

(The game itself is very interesting. You need to play it long enough that you can develop at least two weapons before you can really appreciate the skill wheel, though. Having the ability to swap out between hundreds of powers isn't real impressive when you've only got the xp to buy 5 powers.)

I just played it and it could be amazing but 2D markers really kill it for me. I like ramping up the depth and with 2d quest marker/objective thats real hard. A 2D marker on a 3D object is always a pain. Its like the mmo/rpg equivalent of 2D crosshair.
Everything else is minor and I'd accept rating of 3D vision ready. I would not even give it excellent with the markers however. I would imagine that you'd have to play around 35% depth max.
I am almost positive this issue will not be fixed due to the sheer amount of work.

Well, for all we know, a lot of work could be done and they just haven't turned the feature on yet. Or we could get another Witcher 2 situation where Funcom and NVIDIA have to go back and forth a few times before it really starts working well. Or it could be another Bioshock 2 where they just give up on the 3D. We'll have to wait and find out.

Yea, I think I was overreacting...all this supposed "3d vision ready" stuff gets me mad. I just read kolreth's comment that it actually showed up in depth for him once so the depth information is there. My hopes is that before release they will have a check box to activate 3d vision. This game actually looks really good in visuals with 3D. So I hope it works out. I was rocking max depth depth/ good convergence for opening till those blasted boxes showed up.

Happy to report that the 3D is a WHOLE lot better now, only 2 issues I have seen is that on startup the convergence is WAY out of whack and has to be turned down dramtically, and the quest markers are still 2D. Everything else has been flawless in the 3D department. GTX580 with the latest beta drivers released a few days ago.

I can't remember how to take 3D screenshots, looked in the keybinds in the control panel but couldn't see it. If someone posts how I go about it I will take some to share.
