Simply put NVIDIA hates OpenGl
A lot of great games will never be in 3D because of that
Back to the Doom3 topic, i played it at night then had nightmares like 2 nights after that
3D would probably give be a heart attack :D
Yes a lot of great games have been made with OpenGL, but today it’s use is becoming less and less common. I think IDSoftware is still dedicated to OpenGL, as I read some stuff written by Carmack a few months back talking about why he still pushes for OpenGL, but who else? I can’t think of any upcoming OpenGL titles coming from anyone even including IDSoftware, who aren’t the first person shooter gods they once were anyway. In my opinion, they haven’t made a good online shooter since Q3A (Quake Live doesn’t count) and their last good single player shooter, imo, was Doom3. I enjoyed Prey and Quake 4, but they, imo, don’t offer much replay value. The latest Wolfenstein was so terribly repetitive I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. What is up with ID anyway? Thinking about it the last few games that came from them were really made by Raven …

Nvidia do not see to the past, usually only support recent games to force users to buy new graphic cards because power is needed. There are a lot of GREAT games forgotten in the past, and will never have support for 3D. Basic comercial strategy and curious because 95% users have hardware ready to play only old games in stereo decently. In this line this product will never be really popular.

Well, I agree and disagree. Lack of OpenGL could reflects that, but it could be for a totally different reason ... Either way, not all old games that don't work in 3DV are because of OpenGL or any other similar situation. Many old games will run in 3DV but are totally unplayable due to a wide array of problems such as things being at the wrong depth and so on. Many of these problems can only be fixed with patches to the games, not driver or profile support, and as such nVidia isn't the reason a lot of these old games do not work. You could then turn and fault whomever the games devs may be, but that is unrealistic as you can not expect a company to put money into fixing the game in 3DV when they haven't touched in years; much less, even made any measurable sales on in years.

I remember support for games in the past that are not supported in recent drivers, and it has only one reason for me. Also Opengl was supported and Doom3 was perfectly playable with old Nvidia stereo drivers, and now it is not possible. A game like Oblvion was supported very well in past drivers (with all effects and also with shadows ON) and now the support is really poor. Also there are games that now causes error when launching (ie Blade of Darkness, etc) and still are "supported" in the Nvidia 3d vision list. And I can´t see any new adition in recent drivers to have any old good game running in stereo, I only see some games falling. A lot of good games with Shadows OFF to be played, and seem that it can be fixed but Nvidia no not want.
Nvidia only focus interest in NEW games and the reason it is clear for me. I really do not hope opengl support from Nvidia.

I don't know if it works because it requires a GTX470 or GTX480, which I don't have access too, but the drivers (197.41) which are exclusive to the new cards list support for OpenGL 3.2
I have my copy of Doom 3 ready and waiting if it's true.
/starwars.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':starwars:' /> <- this has been placed here due to its cool factor, any reference to stars wars, any suggested reference or interpreted reference to star wars is purely coincidental. /sweat.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Well, the way I am understanding that is those new GPUs will support OpenGL 3.2, but that this is a completely different issue than 3DV drivers and their lack of support for anything OpenGL. I don’t think that indicates OpenGL working with 3DV on 400 series cards.
If this were the case and OpenGL does work in 3DV with the 400 series and their latest drivers, it would not be a “good look†for nVidia. I would lend people to think that nVidia is only allowing OpenGL 3DV on the 400 series to try and force upgrades.

Google "scitech opengl wrapper" and see if it works for you. It is an old program that converts opengl calls to directx. I was able to get it to work, with artifacts, on a rollercoaster sim but haven't tried it with any of the ID Games.
