I'm looking to upgrade my monitors, which only support 85Hz at the best. Can anyone point me towards a cheap CRT monitor that won't kill my eyes in stereo? Is there anything reasonable that can support 100Hz in 1024 or higher, or is that uncommon?

[post="44185"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
try www. Tiger Direct or www. Newegg. and CTR are still better for games than LCD. AND a lot cheaper. look for a flat tube 19" inch.

This is one thing I want to remind everyone of... your monitor might have higher refresh rates than your OS is telling you. if the monitor driver is set to plug and play, it has lower defaults than what your monitor might be capable of. go to the manufacturers website and download the monitor drivers (this has nothing to do with video drivers). I have done this with every one of my monitors, and the available refresh rates have been mich higher on each one.
This is also sometimes a good way to find out what the refresh rates are for a monitor you are looking into buying. download the inf file for that monitor and make that your monitor driver. now you can look at what the refresh rates are for each resolution right in the stereo setup. don't forget to change back to your current monitor drivers when you're done. if not, you might get alot of "frequency out of range" messages.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have mostly been shopping Newegg and Tigerdirect, so it looks like I'm looking in the right place. Still, most of the monitors advertise their own refresh rates at 75Hz for 1600x1200. Is that good enough? Then you don't get up to 100Hz until you're around 800x600, which isn't so good. I'm assuming that if the ads say 75Hz or whatever, that's the highest. Why would they advertise lower than the highest choice? Thanks.

Hi, I had this problem about 2 years ago when I was upgrading.
At the time I found 19" AOC Spectrum 9Klr to be satisfactory & cheap.
100Hz at 1024 x 768
100Hz at 1280 x 800
120Hz at 1280 x 720
85Hz at 1280 x 960
You can of course get better monitors with faster refresh rates but this thing was cheap and the refresh performance is good enough for gaming resolutions.
