GTX1080 reviews out!
Stryker. You'll be better off with a 1070 I reckon. It's performance might be similar but the 1070 is cheaper, has proper async compute support (apparently) 4K decoding, HDR HDMI, latest DisplayPort connectors and after a few driver optimisations will be a lot faster than the 980ti. Also has the extra VRAM too. In fact, it's a no brainer, get the 1070.
Yeah, I think you're right. I have this money saved originally for VR and now I want to spend it on some sort of upgrade...lol....but a 1070 is likely a better proposition overall for a short term upgrade to my existing system.

The only place that has a benchmark of the 1070 is 1 benchmark by WCCFTECH... aka fake news... It also has benchmarks of a 1060 which hasn't even been mentioned by NVidia. Also, as zigs said. "I purchased EVGA founder's edition which replaced a Asus Titan X with a custom bios and cooler. All the benchmarks I ran at 1080P 3D shows a healthy 15% to 25% increase." That is an overclocked vs STOCK. 15-25% increase over then crazy expensive titan X.

Out come the wolves. So he should get a 980ti instead then Zig11727 and eqzitara? Really? The CEO of NVidia said the 1070 would be faster than the titan X at the launch speech and the benchmarks showed it.
How is a 1070 going to be a lot faster than 980Ti when your tests states that a 1080 is 5 fps faster than 980Ti ?
40 fps + 15% is 46 fps. Don't get me wrong the 1080's are amazing cards, the best. My last post was talking about whether it's worth it for me to upgrade. My 980ti is waterblocked and bios modded and is at almost a 50% overclock. It's got the balls clocked off it. Even so, it's still 10-15% slower than a founders 1080 with a quick overclock in EVGA Precision X. That's why I want to know if the volt limit or powerlimit is hit first on these cards whilst overclocking. You can check it in EVG Precision X on the on screen GUI. I want to know if the 2nd power connector is needed. I'll be making a buying decision on this information when available.
Also, as zigs said. Do you mean 10% over standard bios overclock? I wanted to be blown away but when I Ran that tmbraider benchmark at it was less than 5fps difference I started having doubts. Not trying to piss on anyones chips I'm just giving an accurate account of what I learnt. Everyone is so touchy on here!

Overclocking a GPU is dependent on whether you get lucky in the bin lottery or not, among other things. Simply calling someone's overclock shit without having the full details specific to their equipment is shit in itself.

My opinion on the matter (not sure it weights anything, but here it is): - If you already have a GTX TITAN-X or 980TI (even more so SLI of these) the money difference VS performance gain of a 1080/1070 over the above is almost NON-existent. Look at the numbers, you gain what? 5-20 FPS over 100+ FPS (based on how good or poorly the game is coded) ??? My recommendation is to wait until next year when they realease the new Titan and TI versions. Paying 600 USD/ EURO for a 20% gain (6-12 FPS) on top of 100+ FPS is not worth it... These cards are not breezing at 4K/Surround either (unless you SLI them) ... - If you don't own a TITAN-X, 980TI (you have a 970/980) then the gain is closer to 50% and if you have the money is recommended. - For older cards if definitely recommended. The Titan-X/980TI are definitely cards that are still very awesome! In 2D, hell even the 780TI kicks ass! You can also overclock these cards to huge gains. But if you have the money (and don't know how to spend it, or you simply want to be on top of things) then all of this doesn't matter. But I still think that 600 USD for a 10+ AVG FPS increase is not worth it currently, especially with the overclocks the TITAN-X/980TI can handle. PS: Maxwell also has the architecture of Async Compute (which is the most overated thing in the last years). On paper is awesome... In reality is nothing that fancy, but OK. Problem is there isn't/wasn't any code for it in the drivers. I am unsure if it changed or what needed to be changed. Maybe the hardware was incomplete ? Or the software support was incomplete... But in the last few (approx. 5 driver versions) I see massive improvements for Maxwell in Windows 10 (SLI, SURROUND related mostly, but also changes in DX12 support on Single GPU/Single Screen). If you compare Pascal VS Maxwell architecture, you will notice they are almost identical.

Oh look, the 1070 is faster than the 980ti and Titan X. As predicted, as announced by Jen-Hsun Huang on the pascal launch day event that you all watched. Eqzitara, I asked you a question as your reply after my recommendation implied that I was misinformed. @GibsonRed: Thanks:) but both of them are watercooled already;) If you want to sell the 980TI, sell it with the waterblock on e-bay;) just add a bit on top of what you would normally sell the card with;) I sold one of my 780Tis (with the EK waterblock) for 290£ 2 months ago. I still have one cause I couldn't sell both of them due to e-bay 300£ per month policy;) I'll probably swap a 960 with it in another PC anyway;) But, yeah;) Try to sell it as a pack:) Although, I wouldn't rush with the 1080/1070 but is up to each of us if twe want to feed NVIDIA or not;) Also in the above behnchmark the 1070 is not always faster than a 980TI/Titan-X (and when it is, is by a tiny margin). The 1080 is faster, but not by a big bunch also... Don't really see what all the hype is about :-s Every year is the same, Nvidia produces new GPUs that are a bit faster than the previous ones.
@GibsonRed:
Thanks:) but both of them are watercooled already;)
If you want to sell the 980TI, sell it with the waterblock on e-bay;) just add a bit on top of what you would normally sell the card with;) I sold one of my 780Tis (with the EK waterblock) for 290£ 2 months ago. I still have one cause I couldn't sell both of them due to e-bay 300£ per month policy;) I'll probably swap a 960 with it in another PC anyway;)

But, yeah;) Try to sell it as a pack:) Although, I wouldn't rush with the 1080/1070 but is up to each of us if twe want to feed NVIDIA or not;)

Also in the above behnchmark the 1070 is not always faster than a 980TI/Titan-X (and when it is, is by a tiny margin). The 1080 is faster, but not by a big bunch also... Don't really see what all the hype is about :-s

I'll try selling it on eBay Helifax if I do decide to upgrade. Was debating whether to put the stock cooler back on or not. Cheers for the advice.
