It worked for 3 hours....then it shafted me. I wish there was more support from Nvidia
So I bought a brand new Acer GD235HZ 23.6" 120Hz LCD monitor and a Nvidia 3D Vision kit to experience this whole stereoscopic 3D gaming marvel that the guys are talking about.

I installed everything as described. Got the latest CD version from the Nvidia website and continued to setup my stereoscopic 3D. Everything worked flawlessly. I fired up a game of DotA and even some Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and was completely blown away! I loved it!

Then, about 3 hours into using this funky new toy my PC crashed. Nothing new I thought, and I proceeded to reboot it. It booted back up again with no signs or hassles and I tried fire up another game of DotA - And that's when it started going South.

My glasses started flickering so much that it actually hurt my eyes. I then tried to run the stereoscopic setup again and the glasses (predominantly the right lense) flickered so much that I couldn't even complete the test.

I then proceed to go online and look for other people that were experiencing the same issues and found them, but they too had NO solution to the problem. I tried everything to sort stuff out with no avail. I removed drivers, re-installed drivers, tried different drivers, uninstalled other hardware, disabled SLi etc....NOTHING worked. I even updated the BIOS of my motherboard folks. I tried everything. I even did a system restore to the day before I first started using the glasses....FLICKERING STILL THERE.

Now let me tell you something that makes this even stranger. When I run the test application for Stereoscopic 3D, you know, the one with the spinning Nvidia logo, IT WORKS FINE. When I try to run the medical image test it flickered so much that it nearly gave me an epilepsy attack.

If I run the stereoscopic 3D setup (at ANY Hertz level) I have to guess the correct shape being shown in the right and left eye. Afterwards you're presented with some in-game screenshots in 3D - THEY WORK! but get this, the second I move my mouse or press a button on my keyboard, the flickering starts. If I leave my mouse or keyboard alone, the flickering goes away.

It's like the IR emitter is being "confused" by ANY other device plugged into the USB port of my PC. Why this would happen, I don't know. I've used different ports with no avail.

The other funny thing is, if I start up Bad Company 2, that works fine with NO problems. But NO other game works without the glasses going ape.

What do you guys make of this?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. 2 GTX280's in SLi and a 9800GT for PhysX. This is NOT related to the SLi issue and remember, everything worked perfectly until my PC crashed and rebooted for some reason.

About one month ago now is when my 3d vision experiance went up sh*t creek i was playing normaly then one day after a boot up half of my screen died. Yes i have the acer GD245HQ turned out it was an issue with the monitor acer fixed it within a week and ive had no problems since. The point im trying to make is that dont consider the screen to be flawless or the glasses i belive either can break at any time and u should try and find out where the issue lies, even if u have to use an old crt sumhow. Im sure most people are now going to tell u its an issue with a periferal in your room interfering with the IR transmitter. I had the right eye flickering issue u know what was causeing mine? The LED hdd loading light flashing... lol. Another thing ide say is.. a format allways helps :P hehehe. Also drive sweeper and ccleaner are your friends when dealing with new drivers but i assume u know this :) Gl sorting your probs ooh and nvidia online help serverice thing i find worked ok for me thats where they told me it was an issue with my monitor

I'm going to try everything in my power to try and get this fixed. The thing that makes me believe that it's NOT a hardware problem is the fact that Bad Company 2 works like it always did. Now if it was a hardware problem it would not have worked in any game. Also, the flickering that appears when I move my mouse or press a key on my keyboard is a pretty good indication that there is some underlying software issue causing loads of trouble.

Either way; I have 2 things that I am going to do now. I am going to install a single 9800GT into my fiance's PC which sits right next to my PC tonight and see if her PC gives the same result. If it does, it may be something in my room causing trouble OR it could be the IR emitter or glasses that are faulty. After that I'm going to use my monitor and 3D Vision kit at a friend's house to see what happens there. If that gives the same effect, it means my glasses or IR emitter has gone bust. If it works at his house it means I either have an interfering appliance in my room (based on findings from fiance's PC) or I have a severe driver / interrupt issue on my PC - in which, I'll format.

The only crud thing about this whole mess is that I had to import the 3D Vision Kit and Monitor from Amazon. I live in South Africa and they simply don't sell these items locally at all.

I need to get my Stereoscopic 3D working again. I've seen what it can do and I don't want to game without it! But honestly, some more support and feedback from Nvidia around the right-lense flickering issue would really be a nice turn of events.

Okay so I used my fiance's PC to install the glasses and the rest of the kit and it worked! So I could rule out that it may have been a hardware problem. I then did a few general tweaks on my PC and also a bit of cleanup of old "non present" devices and plugged the emitter back in....PRESTO! It worked :)

I'll try and get a game of DotA in again tonight to see if my faith in this technology can be restored. It's pretty badly bruised.

I am still absolutely SHOCKED at the TERRIBLE support from NVIDIA regarding this product. Pathetic at BEST.

You see, it was your fault, not Nvidia. Nvidia is not responsible for mess in your PC.

Yeah you're right. It's not Nvidia, and it's NOT Nvidia that fixed it. Honestly speaking, WORST SUPPORT EVER. In fact, they'll probably sit back, relax, let all of us struggle our butts off and then collect OUR troubleshooting and post it as their own findings. Typical.

Tell me about it... what a thread. Nvidia will have solid support for this later on when it's set in stone. So far... I've gotten all the support I've needed from them. Via the fourms and Andrew. Alot of sites anyway these days run support soly on forums. This 3D vision forum actually has one of the best community I've seen for finding out answers on any issue.[quote name='TrekCZ' post='1047324' date='Apr 29 2010, 09:00 AM']You see, it was your fault, not Nvidia. If you think Nvidia people don't use and test the hell out of 3D vision, your wrong. Yeah sure, I'm positive this community has helped them a lot and they will take what the community has to offer to help improve their product, as should any business trust in their community.

You're way off base here... Typical is this thread you created. /argue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':argue:' />

You sound like a plug and play guy. Yeah well not everything is perfect in life, don't worry though, you'll make it.

Nvidia employees provide support. If users will behave normally they will appear.
E.g. I had answer to my question in 45 minutes yesterday, perfect.

Flickering is no big issue, there is not too much to advice. There are already threads and if you read them there will be answer.

My problem with Nvidia and this particular product is that they always seem to never experience any of the same issues in their own test environment, thats pretty much the same generic comment I always see from them.
