So annoying. I guess it must be a motherboard problem.

Thanks bo3b, it's just really bizarre since as long as I use a current driver it works fine.
I have one of these motherboards with the chip to allow it SLI at 16x even though its an 1150 board. I wonder if this is part of the problem. Maybe a bug with my motherboard and the nvidia drivers that's been resolved in a later update.
I guess Ill take it up with Asus but I am sure their answer will be. (always use latest drivers blah blah.)
I'm pretty meticulous about my system setup, chipset driver, clean graphics driver installs and such.

Raw performance data as Min, Max, Avg

There are several notable conclusions from this data.
1) Note the dramatic 86% improvement in 2D, for 350.12. This is confirmation of the test that RAGEdemon ran, but only for 350.12. I also see 4 cores 100% usage including SLI. NVidia improved something in 2D, not broke something in 3D. In 320.49, CPU usage is 85% or so for all tests.
2) The 350.12 driver performs substantially better than 340.29. Better in 2D and better in 3D. 44% improvement in 3D for single card, 17% improvement for SLI. No grass for you.
3) The built-in benchmark is crap. The Min is useless and wrong, and the variance is easily 10% run-to-run. Use it only for broad brush stroke changes. 5 fps +/- is irrelevant here.
4) SLI is still worth using. A 26% jump in average is still worthwhile, even given the SLI grass glitch.

Hello
I get a regular crash on GTA V were it says GTA V has stopped responding and it crashes to desktop in 3D. Has anyone seen this too?
Yes. BUT, finally I got pass the Scouting the pier mission (AFTER FREAKING 10 times of playing it for 7 hours today ffs!!!!)
In NVIDIA control panel, set Physx to your GPU aka graphics card (not CPU)
Then, IF nothing else helps disconnect from internet totally.
What other stuff I did was, scan for viruses, used ccleaner to fix registry
Maybe it will help you, but my soul is free atm, finally got rid of that long mission which always crashed in the end :D

Ugh. Game's downloading, I finally gave in. Longest download ever. Curious to see how my single 4gb 770 will hold up. Not very well I bet. I wonder if I should update my driver, I'm on 347.09. I'll switch to mp3 profile nonetheless before starting the game I think. Fingers crossed for at least a half hour game time before the 3D dies on me.

Gahh!
I had a multi stage mission which would crash right at the end - just as you were swapping characters to go to a meeting with Michael. (About 50% into the game.) I was become quite despondent!
In the end I just jumped on grenades 3 in the row for each stage (to get the skip prompt) and it managed to bypass my issue.

Wish I could comment on the 3D turning off or not, sadly the game crashes every 15 minutes, it seems I'm plagued by the memory leak issue or whatever. I get the low memory windows warning.

Buena Suerte!

I had that too when I first got the game. The issue was that GTA V seems to require virtual memory (hard disk "fake ram") in order to run, regardless of how much real ram you have. While I had 2-4 gig of virtual memory setup on my C drive, I had none set on my E drive which is where I had the game installed.
Fix, which worked for me, is to set some virtual memory. After I changed E to have 4-8 gig of virtual memory the warnings and memory related crashes disappeared.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/change-virtual-memory-size#1TC=windows-7
3D problems remain though. My method now is to play the game, get as far as I can, then once 3D fails I Ctrl+T to switch to 2D in order to finish the mission I'm on. Then exit, turn 3D back on in the config file, and restart.
If I don't switch off 3D I may get a crash and have to re-do the mission. On a good run I might get anywhere up to an hour before things glitch out, on a bad run only 5 minutes. Usually about 25-45 minutes.
It says something for the fun and awesome looking 3D, that I'm willing to constantly close and restart the game. Got 58 hours so far... quite a few of those hours were spent trying to get it to work, and looking at the loading screen. Not to mention the reboots and driver experiments. Still loving the game.

They've just released an update. I crashed after about 10 minutes messing around outside of missions, grass wasn't fixed, and VSync seemed worse - though I'm not certain on that last one.

I wonder if the random crashes is PHYSX problem with the drivers.
Very similar to Lords of the Fallen crashes and the last patch was PhysX.dll with solved the problem.
