Blu-ray 3D not working after 258.96 Can't get 3D to work with any new driver
  1 / 3
Hi guys, this is my first post here so bare with me.

I got my 3D setup a couple of months ago, and everything worked flawlessly. I could play all games in 3D, watch 3d blu-rays with PowerDvD 10 and also enjoy side-by-side videos in 3D.

However, that was with Geforce/3D vision driver 258.96. Since then, I have tried upgrading to newer drivers that have come out (260.99, 266.58 and now 270.51), but I get the same problem with each of them. Whenever I try playing a Blu-ray 3D movie (cloudy/avatar/ space station etc), they only play in 2D. The pop-up menu is 3D but the actual movie is only 2D. The green light on the emitter is on but thats it. However, 3D games and SBS movies all work great in the newer drivers, so my settings should be correct. Its only blu-ray 3D that I'm having problems with. I've also tried using Total Media 5, but its the same result.

Since each [broken] driver release I have gone back to 258.96 and my blu-ray 3D has always started working again, but that release is really getting out-dated and a few newly released titles need the optimization of newer drivers (mafia II doesn't play in 3D with 258.96 etc).

System Specs:
GTX 470
Acer H5360 projector
Win 7 64-bit fully updated
PowerDvD 10 latest update version

If anyone could help I would Reeeaaaallly appreciate it. If you need anymore info let me know and I can provide it asap!

Thanks for the details, I just need a bit more info. Please specific the exact PowerDVD version you are running and the list of movies that dont work. That way I can open up a bug.

Also, what mode for 3D are you using from the PowerDVD menu?

Thanks,
I dunno if its relevant, but I'm using an Asus P5N-D mobo & Q6600 CPU. My 3D emmitter is connected to my motherboard via a USB extension cable.

I am currently using PowerDVD 10 Mark II 10.0.2617 but I've also tried the newer 2701 version as well. Its the same in TotalMedia Theatre 5, except the menu is also in 2D whereas in PowerDVD at least the menu shows in 3D.

I'm using autodetect for Blu-ray 3D.

So far its the same with all the Blu-ray 3D movies I've tried, but heres the list anyway:
Avatar, Cloudy with a chance at meatballs, Ultimate Wave: Tahiti, Legend of The Guardians, The Universe 2D, Space Station, Ultimate G's.

Every movie works perfect with driver 258.96, but after that version none of them play in 3D :(
note: I tried 260.63, 260.99, 266.58, 270.51 with 3D Vision 260.63, 266.21
Once I get home I will try 267 and let you know if anything changes.

If you need anything else, I'll be glad to provide the info etc.

Yes, I'm having the same problem, exactly like you. I didn't know was to blem the newer GFX drivers version, I though was something to do with PowerDVD 10 patch updates. I also can't play bluray3D anymore with PowerDVD 10 mark II version 2701, but once I roll back to version 2113 than the problem is gone. It's a problem between the new PowerDVD 10 patch updates and Nvidia drivers newer than 256, I think. Only the main menu and subtitles are displayed in 3D, the movie itself is displayed in 2D with the 3DVision IR emitter light bright green, showing that 3D is on. Awkward!!!!!

Total Media 3 is fine though, playing flawlessy all bluray3D titles I have. I haven't tried Total Media 5 yet, but after reading this thread I'll stay away of it for a while.

Right now I'm rolling back to PDVD 10 version 2113 cause it's better than rolling back drivers. I'm playing new games in 3D like Bullestorm and I need the latest driver cause it has the game's profile. Come on Nvidia, solve this issue, some new bluray3D like Tron don't play well anymore in PowerDVD older versions, it needs to be updated. Everything needs to be updated...

Ok, I've run a few tests and I'll coment the results I got.

I've tried disabling SLI and it didn't work. I've tried turning off and on the 3D mode in the Nvidia control panel and it didn't work.

Then I've uninstalled PowerDVD 10 2701 and reinstalled it again. Still same problem, only main menu and subtitles are displayed in 3D, movie is 2D. I tried pressing the 3DVision IR emmiter button a few times and got strange results. if the light is bright green, I get this bugged 3D I've just talked about, but movie is displayed in 2D, but If I turn off 3D by hitting the IR emitter button, I get a black screen but subtitles are still displayed and movie continues, no image though. Press the IR emitter button again and the bugged 3D mode comes back.

What is also weired is that if I try played bluray3D movies with Total Media 3, sometimes the same problem happens. I can also see the IR emitter light bright green, but movie is displayed in 2D instead of 3D, but hopefully it's easy to fix the issue. You only have to press the IR emitter twice and 3D works fine again, so it's a little bug with a simple fix. Unfortunately this fix doesn't help with PDVD10 2701 version. I've tried all tweaks I could think about, but none fixed the damn issue.

Now the only solution I figured out so far is reinstalling again PowerDVD 10 Mark II patch 2113.51. Just install the older pacth again and it will roll back to this older version. Once the downgrade is done, just try to play a bluray3D with PDVD10 and it will work perfectly. I've just done that and I guarantee it works. So I'm 100% sure that this issue is caused by a problem/conflict between PDVD10 patches 2335 and Nvidia drivers newer than 258.96. If rolling back to 258.96 drivers, PDVD10 2701 will play bluray3D just fine and the bug is gone. I haven't tried this older driver with PDVD10 2701, but user Bara from this very forum said he tried that, so I'm linking this to my findings.

It sucks, cause we need to keep PDVD10 fully updated to be able to play without any issue the latest bluray3D titles. I had problems playing the new bluray3D Tron using PDVD10 version 2113, but once updated to 2701, problem with Tron was gone and also 3D mode. Go figure????

So, I'm back to PDVD10 version 2113 and all bluray3D titles are working again. It's easier than rolling back drivers, this would be a pain in the ass.

Hi

From the PowerDVD menu, what setting are you selecting for your 3D display type?
[/quote]

I selected Nvidia 3D Vision Ready Display. It displays the Nvidia 3D logo next to it. But like I said, 3D works perfect with othe formats (SBS, over/under) so I doubt its my settings.

Thx for the info Francomg, I am in the EXACT same position as you then. With bright green emmiter I get 2D movie/3D menu. If I press the emmiter button (or Ctrl+T) I get black screen (with sound still playing) but unlike you I don't have subtitles. I will try rolling back my PowerDvD version to 2113. I really hope this helps cause I too need the newer Nvidia drivers for new games. I'll comment back with my results once I get a chance.

Again, if any other info needed, I'll be glad to provide.

I have the same problems in a similar configuration (Vista64, GTX470 2x, SLI or not, new Acer HN274H monitor without emmiter, DVI@120Hz).

If I downgrade drivers to lower than ~260 and PowerDVD10 ultra II to update 2113, I can see perfectly smooth 3D video form commercial blu-ray titles, so I asume that my hardware is compatible and drivers are the source of the problems. I'd stay with this outdated configuration if it wasn't that 3D Blu-Rays don't play any longer in 3D after restarting the system (it works right after downgrading the drivers/player).... The monitor is @120Hz, recognizes a 3D signal(glasses activate), but I can only see the bluray main menu in 3D (not the main feature) Other 3D test are fine, I can see 3D in a window (googlearth with the new drivers), 2D DVDs with 3D effects and games/DX applications, just not consistent 3D Blu-ray video.

Help, please!

First, try disabling SLI and see if Blu-ray 3D works.

Second, make sure you are viewing the Blu-ray 3D in fullscreen mode.

Hi Andrew,

SLI off doesn't fix it, I actually removed one of the cards from the machine to test this too...

PDVD10 switches automatically to full screen mode whenever I open 3D containg files, and my monitor recognizes a "3D signal" (put glasses on) glasses turn 'on' but only the image from one eye is sent to the desplay, I asume (since there is no image change if I switch from left to right eye first on the PDVD10 3D menu)

What puzels me is that it worked well with the PDVD10/nvidia drivers 2113/258 (SLI on) using commertial 3D-BR titles (actually amazingly well) but stopped working after I restarted the system.

I can only see 3Dvideo from demo files with the 2113/258 after reboot or after updating to the 2701/270 version/drivers...

Thanks! -M.

First, try disabling SLI and see if Blu-ray 3D works.

Second, make sure you are viewing the Blu-ray 3D in fullscreen mode.

Ok, I'm also going nuts, After reading every single post here, I tried everything from the first post to the last and i just can't get Blue-ray 3D to work at all. I Downgraded to 258.96 drivers and I downgraded to PWDvD 10 Ultra 2113 and nothing. In all Drivers and in all PWDvD 10 Ultra versions i can see my Games in 3D and my regular DvD converted to 3D with no problem. I even purchased a Blu-Ray LG 3D rom thinking this might be the problem and no dice. Plz plz pretty plz. Help me out. I tried Arc TotalMedia 5 and nothing. Ran even the last Beta Drivers 275.27 with PWDvD 10 Ultra 2701 negative results. Tried BD's Transformers 1 and 2, Avatar, Hancock, I am Legend, Eagle Eye, Iron Man 1 and 2, underworld 1,2 and 3 and Nothing. So disappointed.

Running Win 7 Ultimate 64 Service Pack 1, i7 920 @2.67GHz 2.67 GHz, 12.0 GB DDR3, GTX 470 x2 Sli (Note: Tried single GTX 470 also didn't work) Raptor 300 GB @ 10k, WD Caviar 2T @ 7200, Cooler Masters 1200 Power Supply, Acer GD235HZ 120hz Nvidia 3D Vision Ready Monitor, 3D Vision x2 Glasses.

I have a similar problem:

I have PowerDVD 11 Ultra full version and the blu-ray 3D movies played awesome with Nvidia 270 drivers. But yesterday the 275.27 driver version has appeared, and now I can't play blu-ray 3D movies. On 3D mode I only see a black screen (but the movie is still playing). The 3D games and even 3D photos in PowerDVD play well so it is a video issue. PowerDVD 10 Ultra doesn't work with the new drivers on 3D mode, too.

I have an Intel 7, GTX 570, Asus HN274H monitor with 3D vision emitter integrated, Windows 7 Home Premiun 64 bits and PowerDVD 11 Ultra.

How can I fix it?

Hi! Same problem here!
Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, GTX 470, Win7 x64, TMT 5, NVidia drivers 275.33. 3D Blu-rays were working OK before, but lately with the new drivers they are only displayed in 2D, even though everything (including emitter and glasses) thinks it is 3D.
