I didn't want to post a topic about it but if I am about to spend $1000 or so on a pair of the new Maxwell cards I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I have seen a post here or there in various threads stating people are having issues running games with 3D Vision enabled on the new cards in SLI. This varies as either the 2nd card isn't really doing anything to getting a black image in one of the eyes. I have also seen a few responses that it works fine but not from the actual owners of the new cards.
Can anyone here that has a pair of either 970 GTX or 980 GTX cards confirm that 3D Vision works just as well as it did before on their old cards?
Thanks!

SLI 970 here. I can confirm that I see SLI scaling in AC4, Shadow of Mordor. I've not really tried any other games that would stress a single 970 to the point where the second one would make much difference, but if you have any requests I'm happy to do a couple tests.
The thing to be wary of is apparently the ROG Swift - those people seem to be the ones having trouble with SLI.

Thank you for posting your findings. I am using an Asus VG278H and it's been out a few years so hopefully I won't have any issues. I have put off playing games like Watch Dogs and Alien:Isolation until I do the upgrade.

I have the same monitor. Just tested Alien Isolation. I couldn't get it to drop below 60 on a single card, so I had to use DSR to stress it a bit more. But I can confirm that I'm seeing pretty good scaling in Alien Isolation. I don't have Watch Dogs to test.

Alien is working well for me as well, and so is Shadow of Mordor, as long as I don't alt-tab out. Alt-tab even with no 3Dmigoto will crash when SLI is enabled.
WatchDogs is a mixed bag- I don't think you can run WatchDogs with SLI on current drivers. It stutters like mad when driving if SLI is enabled. On driver 320.49, I get SLI scaling, no stutters, great experience. Too old for 970 though.
Depending upon what you currently have I would not be in a rush to upgrade until the drivers have clearly matured. It's not solely the Swift, look at the SLI forum and driver feedback threads for example.

Hey Gang,
I just recently built a new PC and purchased the ASUS Strix 970 (was lucky to get one since they are heavily back ordered here in Canada until early 2015). Anyway, I was thinking of going with the purchase of a second one, but as it stands, the single GPU I have is running flawlessly and every game I throw at it is just about smooth as butter running 3D.
From what I read on the forums is how finicky it is to get SLI mode running in 3D. Is there really a justifiable reason to buy a second card, especially how expensive they are? The reason I ask here is because I trust the feedback on this forum.
Cheers!

I can't speak for the newer 9xx cards, but have been running SLI for years from SLI 275, SLI 570 and now SLI 770 (yes I always jump a generation...). I don't feel like I ever have any problems, at least no more than the base level of driver problems that everyone else gets all the time regardless. The benefit to 3D Vision of SLI far far outweighs the few specific game issues that crop up every now and then - and if you remember, games like Saints Row 4 *required SLI* to work in 3D, not the other way around. If you are getting good performance from one 970 right now, stick with it and wait until next year to get a second one much cheaper, or when you've saved up. As others have noted, there are general teething issues with these cards and the latest drivers anyway, that will get sorted out, so waiting until they are might be less of a short term headache anyway.

I do not know how Witcher 3 will pan out in 3D but I do know that I want to have as much power as possible to run it at max graphic levels, 3D or otherwise. I also like the new DSR feature but it makes games harder to run on my current cards, especially in 3D.

Thanks mike_ar69. I will heed your advice since these cards will eventually drop in $$ when more competition shows itself, they are also not easily available at moment anyway. This new card I purchased by ASUS is a solid card and I have been very impressed with the game performance. The heat dissipation at full load is the best I've used to date. You cannot hear a thing. I upgraded this ASUS 970 Strix from a previous ASUS 570 and have been real impressed with ASUS design and quality. In case anyone is interested, I would highly recommend this card due to it's value proposition. It's performance and quality versus the price point, is attractive.

While it's not the most powerful card on the market, I can say that it's worth the money. Every game I have thrown at in 3D has been buttery smooth. Obviously this card is only part of the puzzle since I did spend a little more on my CPU, SSD Drive and good quality RAM which is the sum of all these parts.

SLI is usually not an issue for 3D, in fact you generally better SLI scaling in 3D than in 2D. My only issue with SLI is that some of the games I play regularly in 3D don't support or benefit from SLI, and you spend quite a lot of money without getting 100% of the performance all the time.
I just sold my SLI 670 setup and went for a 980, unfortunately at the same time I went for the ASUS ROG SWIFT and damn, its hard driving games at acceptable framerates in 3D at 1440. I might get another 980 in the future, or maybe get the inevitable TI version and sell my existing card.

2 x 780Tis here...
On a single screen I just need one card in 3D to basically get near 90% GPU usage. The second GPU isn't justified...
However in 3D Surround Both cards reach 99% usage... So there it is justified.
I think going for 2x970 on a single screen is not worth the effort as I see no gain basically. On Surround is a totally different thing thou ;))
I don't know how the drivers work on the 970's but on the 780Tis are OK with scaling...
