EDID override, 3d formats and windows 10
  1 / 2
Hi everyone i am New here so i have a few questions that i could not find searching on older topics: 1: what are the formats supported by the edid override ? 2: does edid override still Works with windows 10 ? 3: does any passive 3dtv Works with the edid override ? Or It has to support some specific Format ?

Expand your searching to Google - just search '3d vision edid override' and have a read through some blogs that come up, I'm not sure Nvidia approves of linking to them. 1. Theoretically anything, if you are prepared to make your own. 2. No idea, never installed Win 10. 3. Again, theoretically anything but you might have to do some work yourself.

Ok i will do the search on Google, i asked because someone Said to me that EDID override would only work for passive 3dtv, so i though which formats would work because If It was SBS or over under It could work with any 3dtv.

If you search this forum, joker18 has created several EDID mods that work great for all LG (passive) 4K 3D TVs. Others have created/ attempted EDID mods for other brands. I am not aware of anyone sharing a working EDID for any manufacturer beyond LG, however. 1. Native format (3840x2160) works best (in-gaming scaling does not work correctly for most games). For some recent games, 1080Ti may be needed for best performance. Note that the EDID mod may interfere with blu-ray playback in some (non NVidia) media applications. 2. Yes. 3. Depends upon model/manufacture. I could never get my first gen passive Sony 4K TV to work with EDID mods, but it was not fully HDMI 2.0 compliant (just supported 30 Hz, not 60 - so display timing was different). EDID mods are not required, if you simply want to use TV’s native 3D formats like SBS and TAB (passive display should only use this, or line-interleaved format), however. Older 3D Vision games may not offer support for other display formats like TAB, though.

If a TV is using Passive 3D tech then there's a possiblity that it may work with EDID overrides created for LG 3DTVs (Passive 3D is LG patented tech). For example years ago some 1080p Philips and Vestel models were working with an LG EDID. If you can't find any information about different brand TVs' EDID compatibility then you have to try yourself; take your PC case to the store and try EDIDs. Brands I know that support (or were supporting) 4k Passive 3D tech are Philips, Vestel, Beko, Grundig, Sony. Also Dugom mentioned some brands in an other thread:
Panasonic EX (2017) 50", 58" and 75" are 3D. LOEWE serie 7 (2017) 55", 65" and 77" are 3D.
Also some local brands support Passive 3D, these kind of brands are mostly not known globally.

I have a Philips 40pfl9605d/78 (active) which seems like the only option for It is 3dtv play 720p@60hz as i AM not aware of an edid for SBS or over under and It's not likely to NVidia update 3dvision. I just bought a Philips 46pfl4908g (passive). I am waiting for It actually, so i am already seeing the options for me, i read the manual of the passive one and the formats supported were: SBS, over under, and inverted SBS/over under, which made me a bit worried about It, but as Soon as i get my hands on It i Will test It out.

If you bought a passive 3DTV, then there is also one undocumented mode you can use : the native hardware output (horizontal interlaced) : outputting the 3D image straight to the pixels. (This is not a proper 3D mode because the TV does not know it's receiving a 3D image) If you want to do the passive TV trick, not all TVs allow it : You need a TV that supports full resolution native input (Full-color RGB, native resolution and refresh rate), and you need a way to turn off all scaling and image enhancement algorithms (required for broadcast TV at super low bandwidth and watching old DVDs an HDTVs, but useless for PC, and destroys the native 3D image format if the TV isn't aware about it). Regarding edid overrides. Yes they work on windows 10. I use one to force the proper default resolution and refresh rate of my projector without touching the 3D Vision capability. The output modes are determined automatically by the Nvidia driver based on the type of display detected by the EDID. There are 6 modes for 3D Vision that I know of :
[.]3D Vision with embedded emitter (frame sequential with extra metadata and communication) : if the EDID reports a compatible 3D Vision monitor with embedded emitter, creates massive stutters if overridden by EDID on a non-compatible display (I tried) due to the lack of communication with the display[/.] [.] 3D Vision separate emitter or Generic CRT (raw frame sequential) : cannot be overriden by EDID, you need the usb 3D Vision emitter plugged in (what I use, I have an EDID override on top for other reasons)[/.] [.] 3D DLP (Quincunx checkerboard) : if the EDID detects a compatible DLP rear projection TV, you need the usb 3D Vision emitter plugged in.[/.] [.]Optimized for Geforce 3D (horizontal interlaced) : if the EDID reports one of the monitors licenced by nVidia (a few old Acer monitors), this is the one used for 4K passive 3DTVs overrides[/.] [.]3DTV play (frame packing 1080p24 or 720p60) : if the EDID reports an hdmi TV with 3D capabilities (from the hdmi 1.4 standard), free trial 14 days, requires a licence after. You can use an override to force it if your TV isn't detected properly but you still need to pay for the licence[/.] [.]3D Vision discover (anaglyph) : any display, required red/cyan anaglyph glasses[/.]
If you want to output Side By Side or Over/Under, then the 3D Vision driver does not allow it. An experimental feature of 3D Migoto can output SBS, but it doesn't work on all games. Tridef has it though, but it's a different software, and no community patches. (great software though, it's usually a good thing to have both 3D Vision and Tridef depending on the game, careful : the Tridef Licence is tied to the computer you install it on and cannot be transferred).

Thank You for the answers, they made things a Lot clear to me. I Will try out when i get hands on my passive tv (which should be next week or something). About the SBS and over/under, i would like to try this, but what is 3d migoto exactly ? It can be used without 3D vision/3dtv play ? How do i use It ? I tried to read It's topic but could not understand much, and since It has hundred Pages the info is a bit hard to find... I use Tridef too but It has no support anymore as You might know...

My passive 3D TV Just came here, after a few tests i found that to me the passive 3D is more Comfortable than the active one (own both now). It Works interlaced 3D, so It might work with edid override, in this case the audio does not Go through HDMI ? Which edid should i use ?

Do you have Nvidia's HD audio drivers installed, they are for HDMI audio? Unless you are using an AVR and need the 5.1/7.2 surround version, just use the regular EDID. You do not want to use SbS or O&U, if you do, it adds an un-needed post processing step.

Some Quick questions: 1.If i use this edid the Pc Will be in 3D mode ALL the time ? Or only If i Activate 3D somehow or Open a game ? 2.Is there a way to turn the 3D off without have to remove the edid ? I AM asking this because i AM not only one who uses the Pc/tv and maybe my brother don't to play in 3D... About the audio I AM using audio through HDMI to HDMI switcher with audio extractor conected to a Philips Soundbar through optical cable, so yes i use It.

3D activation is determined by an item ("enable 3d" checkbox) in the Nvidia control panel. If this checkbox is unchecked, applications and games launch normally If this checkbox is checked, the 3D vision driver will try load itself instead of the regular 3D driver whenever any application calls for the GPU's 3D APIs, (mostly games, but not only)

Thank you guys it now works with my Philips 46PFL4908G, with acer edid, the audio is working ok via HDMI. I've seen somewhere the eyes maybe switched with the edid ? How do i check this ? I am using 3D Fix Manager, it is Amazing, but i got some issue like ghosting and some eye hurt which i don't get with tridef 3D (tested only the witcher 3), i've found the setting for depth which i think it is the separation right ? But i did not found where i can adjust the convergence, i usually don't feel good if the 3D effect is too high... i really think it's default setting is way too much for my sight :-) i saw that some games have the SBS support informed on the fix game page (like witcher 3) but i could not activate this output, but if it is possible then this means that with the edid and the fixes some games may work even on active tvs or hmd (SBS) am i right ?
