Is TriDef still compatible with 3D Vision Hardware?
  3 / 4
I also tried version 5.0 trial with my benq XL2410t monitor and while I occassionly could get it to work it wasn't being very friendly with Steam and Origin where most of my games are. Found it difficult to work with as it recognized a tiny fraction of my games and my attempt att running skyrim with virtual 3D resulted in driver error.

It did not impress and running on a 3D Vision monitor with Nvidia glasses seemed like running two 3D drivers at once. Running on tridef supported hardware like hdmi 1.4 devices might give different results.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.

This worked for me as recently as the 5.0 release as of a few weeks ago. I wasn't impressed overall, there were a few games that definitely had better support than 3D Vision but the performance compared to 3D Vision is abysmal. There's also quite a few games that work great with 3D Vision that don't work at all or have terrible support with DDD.

If 3D Vision is roughly 1/2 the FPS you get in 2D, 3D with DDD is more like 1/4 or 1/3rd. SLI does technically "work" but it just works to mask the overall poor performance and heavy overhead of the DDD drivers.

Overall I'm hopeful that a new mod by Helix gives us similar functionality as DDD in problematic games. From what I've seen this mod, has the same ability to correct glaring 3D issues by suppressing problematic shaders and/or 2D screen elements like crosshairs, moving UI/HUD elements to fixed depths, and moving objects rendered at the incorrect depths to new depth values. The biggest benefit is there is virtually no performance overhead and all performance gains from SLI are still realized as it retains all the benefits of Nvidia's stereo service and NVAPI.
[/quote]
Would be good. I really dont understand it though probably cause I dont have assasins creed, is this software universal between all dx9 games? Shader issues being fixed in games like amalur, which is comming out tuesday will be nice.

Basically every game thats better on Tridef could be just as good on nvidia if this becomes universal.Me1/2, da2(not sure if better on ddd but I know it has shader issues)....and thats just one video game company.

EDIT: Began testing and you can cycle through me2 shaders....I am gonna see if DDD lists the CRCs somewhere. It may be possible to fix. Will see in a bit got work now.
Found some that help.

If you found a way to decompile d3d9.dll in tridef's ignition folder(c++ I think you need) You can see the shaders removed for each game.

Yep right now Helix's shader profiler/dumper allows us to identify individual shader CRCs but it won't work with other games because the CRCs need to be compiled into the d3d9.dll on a per game basis. He said he was working on a version that automatically read shader overrides for any game from a folder without having to update the dll with shader CRCs. Then we could update and improve virtually any d3d9 game for Nvidia users.

The thing about DDD and Steam, is that you must close then reopen Steam to make changes otherwise it will continue to use the game profile you first used. Also, to stop using DDD and switch to Nvidia, you must close and reopen Steam. Very annoying for the first time user and probably annoying regardless if you don't have an SSD drive to open Steam up quickly.

Are you guys still having success with this? Figured i would try the new 5.1 Tridefs so that i could use the virtual mode with a few troubled games, but once loaded up the tridef shortcut keys dont do anything and i get a 'title was not dx9/10/11' message upon exit of any game profile listed.

I am no longer able to get virtual 3D to separate images correctly. The amount of separation used to widen more and more as the scene went away from you, now its almost the opposite. Things in the distance are almost at screen depth. The first way i tried it looked almost like normal 3d and blew my away. I also notice it changes depth as you pan around, very annoying!

I haven't seen the mod in person, but is it at a point where it's user friendly, or is it rather complex? While it sucks in terms of performance, Tridef is still very user-friendly, allowing you to make your own profiles while having a team of professionals nailing problematic shaders behind the scenes quietly without the need for user intervention. Obviously, it won't be possible to imitate a team of professionals, but if we can at least get that mod to a point where mostly anyone can learn how to use it, then it might make for an adequate replacement.

Its not any more complex than enabling most mods for Skyrim for example, very similar in implementation to the ENB fixes or custom injectors. ENB is probably a bit further along because I'm pretty sure Boris' mod can read any shader input without having it added to the d3d9.dll. I think this is what Helix is working on now.

The shader dumper/profiler itself is just as easy to use, just put the d3d9.dll into your game's directory, run it, then use the numpad to cycle through and dump shaders. You see the current active shader highlighted similar to other profiling tools out there, like texmod or umod etc. Then you can isolate that shader by dumping it to file, and from there you can change the depth values or suppress them by commenting them out. The problem is you need to compile the ID'd CRCs for each game and while someone familiar with C++ or HLSL could probably pick up from here, I think most of us are hoping Helix provides these tools himself.

You can see the results though, another game that was terrible in 3D Vision before that looks perfect now: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/HeliX666/image/4f2994ef378501691a0000e7/

Looks even better than the DDD Version actually, because the DDD version prevented you to increase separation too much on the NV wheel before some of the same halo issues became evident. I'm also sure it runs much better than DDD.

Would it be as OSD friendly as DDD? Probably not. But we wouldn't need it to be. Those who knew how to use it or willing to learn would be able to bundle and combine the fixes in very small files (~200KB) and those who didn't want to mess with the tool/profiler could just download them and drag/drop them into their .exe directories. After that you control setting same as any other 3D Vision game.

Sounds pretty awesome. I'd love to avoid having to download Tridef if at all possible, especially since I wouldn't get the discount due to being an NVIDIA user. Plus, I haven't been fond of the idea of having to launch my games from within a separate application.

Not in helix's posts but yes it could. ANY game thats better on tridef could be improved using this method. Its a direct x wrapper(just like tridef) that removers shaders. Its a ton of work though and a bit beyond me without a guide.

Also libertine how can you have a "high FOV tv"? Doesnt that just means you sit close to it. Like 2 feet away is __ fov. 3 feet away decreases fov. Unless I am missing something.

The fixed version is Dead Space 1, but it should be applicable to Dead Space 2 as well, just the shaders need to be re-profiled and suppressed on a per game basis. These were actually 2 of the games I would've given immediate attention to if we had fully functional tools but it looks like Helix has already started on that. :)

But, yes the potential is great with such a tool, to not only fix the most problematic games, but to also tune and improve many games that had minor issues. Darksiders or Alice for example. 2D HUD elements and a 2D cursor. If you could suppress the 2D crosshair, that would allow you to use the Nvidia crosshair without seeing 3x crosshairs and also give the 2D HUD elements depth. You could also block certain 2D assets, like enemy icons that can't be set to the correct depth.

Hey guys..

been playing with 3d forever it seems like. I just bought the Viewsonic 24". I did want 27 but man everyone of those had to many problems for ME. The Viewsonic works flawless. Never new it could use ATI or PS3. And then thanks to YOU GUYS again I never new I could use TRIDEF and then with Nvidia. Not sure why I have to turn on NV 3d to get Tridef to use NV card but just wanted to test. Tridef I had to really play with with it but I find works great with ATI and then Nvidia. I am using Tridef more then Nvidia, with the games I play there so a lot less ghosting. I was just playing SKYRIM all maxed out with ATI 6870 and all my mods and works perfect. But with SWTOR seems in Win7 I get this black boarder and the game is running at 1920. So I went to Win 2008 r2 and lol no clue why but runs better no black border.
