How-To: Make your Windows 10 box "optimised" for Gaming

I know;) I wasn't trying to insinuate that;)
I was just talking about what this thing achieves.
Yes the comparison, was meant to show how was is your system behaving when Windows is idling (after 2 minutes) since start-up: Notice the 51% HDD usage? ;)
VS
How it does when you don't run the explorer;)
Windows 10 does a LOT of fishy and weird stuff in the background;) Hence those results;) You wound;t want that 51% HDD usage spike when you play a game would you?:)) or Spikes in CPU usage or so;) Anything that "spikes" in electronics (unless it has a frequency and interval) is BAD for stability and performance;)

"REM" means that line is commented out. So, no Alienware Stuff will be launched (But most likely you will not have the apps installed anyway).
You need to adjust your paths before running it. I recommend familiriazing yourself with how Batch files work and run the BAT file before you modify the registry just to see that it does what you except.
If you are not familiar with modifying batch files and registries I would advise not to do it (or ask a friend who knows what he is doing). Otherwise, it is possible to "break" your system.

Indeed helifax, I envision this tool helping me battle one of my 3D Gaming nemeses - microstutter.
Interestingly, one of my OC sessions ended in a hard crash which corrupted a windows install, which gave constant 29% CPU usage by the device installation service the other day - I had to do a lot of command prompt shenanigans to get it to work properly again, so do have a little experience in the matter. What I have noticed is that even ending Explorer, some apps such as a web browser or command prompt will remain open if the app window has not been minimized to the taskbar.
I wonder if you can make a quick and dirty app which would stay open (non-minimised), from which you could launch a game shortcut. Launching from this app would automatically close explorer, and exiting the linked .exe in the shortcut would automatically start explorer etc as the app would maybe poll to see if that .exe is active or has been terminated. Is this viable? This would mean that the entire process is automated.
Certainly, it would be a huge success even for non 3D Vision and VR gamers alike. As someone posted, this is what Windows game-mode should have been.
Although I see great uses for this in troubleshooting for me personally, I think having to navigate to games and then manually launch explorer etc again, is beyond most people's comfort zone.
You might be able to sell this app even. I would certainly pay a few £ to have this functionality! :)
Thanks!
@Joker, I know you have an aversion to proofs and evidence from some of your other posts (especially if it's your own evidence contradicting your beliefs), so I'll put here exactly what you said to some of us in another thread, so that instead of arguing with me, you can argue with your wise self:

@helifax: Cool guide, thanks very much for sharing this. I'll give this a try at some point on my Win10 box and report back. As a general idea I find Win10 to be flaky, and it could be because of the random junk that Microsoft feels compelled to launch at normal priorities.
It's also worth noting that (in my experience) the Windows kernel is absolute trash. At least as far as what a kernel is supposed to do. You can be using the machine at full-bore, and they have no way or just don't care to defer to a better time. I've had my machine being used full blast playing a game, they install an update, then force shutdown the machine mid-game. Yeah, they care deeply about the user experience.
If they have cores parked for power saving, they'll swap a process into an already busy core to avoid waking that core. This is completely and utterly stupid, because if I'm using a machine at full power, then battery saving is the very least of my worry. The effect of this stupidity is that even on a CPU bound process, they'll be stealing cycles and swapping in and out, rather than put that process on a literally unused core. This is why that core-unpack trick works at all, because the kernel is a piece of shit. It's supposed to directly support multi-threaded programming and it does an absolutely pathetic job of scheduling.
And yeah, they made it worse in Win10, not better, even though we have more cores than ever. Possibly too much to expect for a 25 year old kernel, that is surely "too scary to touch." Oh yeah, sorry, it's the "best windows ever." My bad. <cough>
If they had any concern whatsoever for the user, they'd run stuff like Defender and indexing at Very Low priority. It's not that important, and very low would have a minimal impact. The fact that they do not indicates that they either have no idea what they are doing, or they just could give a shit about the user experience.
@RageDemon: The volnaiskra results are interesting, but he did those tests on Win7 if I'm not mistaken.
Also, as you note, the primary value here is preventing stutter and stalls as Win10 jacks around and defies your intent to use the entire machine during that time. Keeping in mind of course that under Win10, it is no longer 'your' machine.

Hi Guys,
I tried this script and when I ran it it seemed to have worked somewhat.. Well it did sign out and log back in but when Windows came up I had a Mouse cursor and a BLACK screen and no windows which I was only able to ALT + TAB to get Explorer.exe running again..
Now I ran this before as in the thread I said I did but not sure as to why now it does not work properly or I did something wrong when converting it too a BAT files..
How does this script work I mean what should happen when the PC logs back in automatically, Am I supposed to be back at desktop with the bloatware trimmed down?? IF so what happened is Explorer.exe did not run and looked pretty bad if I hadn't thought of running Explorer.exe in the run window I would have had to reinstall Windows..
But I am not worried about that as I know it must be user error?? I did run it from Desktop so the location was C:\users\A..AA..\Desktop,, is this wrong to run it from desktop or was the bat file misset when I copied and pasted..??
thnx
Nephilim

What I said in my other 2 posts was I have Explorer++ Working now and see how to use it but I am having issues trying to Run TrackIR5.. When I run it in E++ I get an error message upon starting it and it does not start/run..
I tried another similar E++ PRogram and the same thing happened.. I was wondering if anybody is familiar with TrackIR, it is a head tracking program and USB IR sensor that makes my hadmovemennts into the game head movements..
I tried to start when running E++ but I get the same error beep and it will not run.. Could it be that I need to load a USB Driver for it in E++ in order the the TrackIR to function?

Hi Guys,
I tried this script and when I ran it it seemed to have worked somewhat..
