Assassin's Creed 3 - real 3D game fix, beta release
  6 / 10
Wow! Seriously, Wow! I bought this game when it first came out (Uplay Version), but obviously couldn't play it since I don't do 2D anymore... Fires right up with 337.50, 3x680, 3 X VG278H Surround, Win 7 Pro. It's beautiful. I just got in to sequence 1, behind the stage, and have to get back to work, but wanted to say Thank You! :-) Gotta figure out a way to get some time off now. I truly appreciate the efforts guys!
Thanks for correcting me, Eqzitara, I had forgotten that DHR's advice for +- 20% frame rate improvement was maybe for non-SLI. The strange thing is that after removing the AC3SP.exe from teh Assassin's Creed 3 profile in Nvidia Inspector, there is now still a profile entry in Inspector (and in the standard Nvidia Control Panel) associated with this file, called "AC3SP". They both seem to have some specifications related to SLI. Is there a small program which can show both card's putput in real time, to check if SLI is active? I normally use GPU-Z, but it does not show the cards side by side, so it's a little annoying to toggle and read card use. Thanks
You can use NVidia Inspector. You surely have this for removing the profiles. In the upper left, there is a little graph. Hit that and it brings up a window showing GPU usage and temps. This is what I use to see SLI working or not, and whether GPU bound or not.

Great to hear that it is working Tri-SLI and Surround.

Thanks Bob, that's good to know. Had not noticed that Sensor Monitoring button. I used it now, and can confirm that both my cards are being used, so apparently removing the file association from the profile did not switch SLI off in my case (although there is an additional profile called AC3SP, like I said, don't know who put it there)

@bo3b Thanks again to you and the team, playing this pretty much open game in surround is great. I do want to use SweetFX: http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/615/ - Of the files included in the SFX download, there is a d3d9.dll, which I presume not used anyway, right? - There is a dxdi.dll, but you also use a dxdi.dll, so I presume I need the one in SFX but I don't want to overwrite yours. Will SFX work with your patch, if so, can you point me to some clues to tweak? If not, I'll keep playing :-) Thanks,

There is a feature to allow dll chaining, but I'm not sure anyone has tried it recently. If you want to be a guinea pig, that would be interesting. Go into the d3dx.ini settings file, and look for the System section, like:
;------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; Chain load other wrapper DLLs instead of system DLLs. ;------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [System] ;proxy_d3d9=d3d9_helix.dll ;proxy_d3d11=d3d11_helix.dll
Change one of those commented out lines to be your sweetfx dll. And remove the semicolon comment character. The d3d9.dll is probably fine to use there. For changing the dxgi.dll, I don't think there is presently a chain-load for that one, and it's a fairly key dll. Based on what I know about how AC3 loads, there is an off chance that it won't need dxgi.dll for this game. In any case, doesn't hurt anything to try different combos and see if it works. EDIT: So, I tried the experiment of just renaming the d3d9.dll and dxgi.dll out of the way, so they wouldn't load, and it seemed to run just fine. Shaders are loaded and fixed, and I didn't see any errors in the log. So, I'd say that you should be able to use SweetFX here by just replacing those DLLs that it needs.

Great to hear that you made AC3 working in 3D! Thank you very much! As I am running Windows 8.1, do you have a solution for the game crash (when starting the game)?

8.1 and 3d have a number of problems, you'll have a much easier time of it if you install 8 instead.

As I am running Windows 8.1, do you have a solution for the game crash (when starting the game)?
As Pirate notes, 8.1 is currently a poor choice for 3D Vision gaming. He has a technique to allow you to switch to 8.0, and still use your 8.1 OS Key. 8.1 has performance problems, stutter, breaks other injectors like SweetFX and ENB, multi-monitor problems, and similarly doesn't work with 3Dmigoto. Not always, not all games, and not for everybody, but it's not the latest and greatest, it's actually the bleeding-edge, and you really don't want to be there, unless there is something in 8.1 that you feel is a must-have. 8.1 is all about mobile devices, and they don't really care about desktop. For 3Dmigoto- I debugged this enough to find that Microsoft has a DXGI bug with a documented interface, API. 3Dmigoto is calling the routine properly, 8.1 changed the behavior to return an error, which is wrong. Microsoft might fix this, given that they are violating their own documentation. As I noted earlier, given that it's Microsoft they'll probably just say "bite me." I can probably work out a way to get around their bug, but want to be clear that I won't be able to get to it for at least a couple of months. I can't promise anything.

Thanks for your explanation and information! Actually I don't have many problems with Windows 8.1 and 3D Vision. Everything is running good on my single monitor and beamer setup. I really appreciate your efforts, thanks! There are many people out there that use your mod or other mods. Really great that you are also working on AC4. I am looking forward to play AC3 in 3D (I hope that MS will fix this error so that your mod is also compatible with Windows 8.1). Best wishes from Germany!

I've just got round to trying this out and WOW, amazing job guys. A big thank you to you all. I stopped playing AC3 early on because I wanted the 3D to be as good as Brotherhood and now you few have done that so I'm gonna start playing again :) Is there any config setting to get a higher FOV. I prefer to see a bit more than is default?
