3D Vision Surround w/ non-3D side monitors?
  1 / 2
I currently use a Mits 60" DLP in 3D Vision @ 1080p (the required/native res for 3D on this display.) I also have a Samsung 50" plasma that is 3D Vision capable @ 720p. If I decide to upgrade to 3D Vision Surround, I think triple-wide 720p is more realistic to drive without a complete monster system like triple 1080p would require. So I was planning to re-purpose or sell my 1080p set, and use the 50" plasma as the center monitor if I go Surround.

I know with Surround I've read all the monitors have to run the same resolution, but do they all have to be identical monitor models, and do they all need to be 3D capable? I was thinking I might be able to use an older 720p rear projection display I have for one of the side monitors. But it's only got VGA connections anyway, so that might not work if I use HDMI for the center monitor? Or may pick up a couple of cheap 720p projectors- Ideally I'd get the newer models that are 3D Vision capable, but if not- can one or both side monitors be in 2D while the center is in 3D? (I play racing games almost exclusively so this would just be peripheral vision side window views to help aid in passing and track awareness, so it's not crucial that info be in 3D.)

So in a nutshell- anyone know what are the limitations for connectivity and monitor matching w/ 3DV Surround?

Well here are some answers,

All three screens have to be the same identical model

All three screens also have to be 3d vison ready, otherwise i'd gues u get nasty compatiblity issues.

i do not think it is possible to use 1 3D + 2 2D screens whilst playing any game.

All i know u can do with 2,3,4 screens is set it to panorma, so stretching the image acorss all the displays but even then i think they have to be the same to work properly and it will only be 2d.. i think.
And with that kind of set up you wont get the desierd effect your looking for in your racing game, unless it supports it?

Hope this helps.

While it is possible and not two hard to implement I know that Nvidia will not go the extra mile to allow that. they want you either to have it all in 3d or non in 3d. to me 3d on the side is a little of a waste of time since I think I have bad eyes.... I don't have depth perception in my peripheral vision, I guess other ppl do have that. How often are you going ot be turning your head to glimpse left or right in a FPS. if you see someone you still have to turn your weapon to them.

Nice idea waste of tech for me in 3d. they should have worked on the option so I can use any regualr 2d screen on the side minus S3d on it.

I really wish they would have support for this too. 3D on the side screens is next to useless because peripheral vision is not stereoscopic.

Here is an image to illustrate, the center shaded area is what can be seen in 3D. Seems like a waste.

True, but when you turn your head to the left or right looking at them it will be 3d. I don't think you notice just by looking straight unless you move your eyes only and not your head. Maybe it takes a little bit of time to "get used to it". /omg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omg:' />

Nope. most ppl move their heads 180 degrees around whenever they are playing games on a regular basis.

I've played widescreen multiplayer gaming and while ti looks nice while playing I hardly turn to look at the other two screens other for just the fun of it.
