3D Vision through Denon Receiver?
Hi all,

This is my first post here, found this forum looking for a solution to a problem I am having with my 3D Vision setup.

When I connect my Projector (Viewsonic PJD6251) straight to my GPU (9800GT) via HDMI everything works fine with the 3D Vision however because this PC is used as a HTPC I need to connect from the GPU through my ASUS Xonar for HD Audio then through my Denon Receiver and then to the Projector and with this I lose the ability for 3D Vision because the Denon Receiver shows up as the display device and not the Projector.

I have seen in the nVidia control panel under the 3D setup the display type can be selected from a drop down menu however my projector is not in the list though it is there when connected directly to the GPU.

Just wondering if anyone has managed to get their 3D Vision working through a Receiver and if they have the steps to do so, I think if my Projector was in the list I could manually select it and it would work but that option is not there.

Thanks for reading.

You probably need a modified EDID. The receiver isn't notifying your video card that it is 3D ready. For people that have it working, they use an HDMI 1.4 receiver.

Hi,

I have the same problem. My workaround is to set the computer up in dual screen mode, setting my H5360 as primary monitor and my receiver as the 2nd monitor. If i am already using dual screen i will set the receiver as screen three. This means that my receiver outputs the sound and it doesnt matter that it isnt outputting to the projector as the projector is plugged directly into the primary screen dvi.

Phil.

Thanks for the reply, had a bit of a play around with the EDID yesterday but was unable to work out a fix, what I done was connected the projector direct to the GPU and used Moninfo to create a .inf then installed that .inf for the Receiver after connection it the way I wanted it to work, not sure if that’s the correct way to do the EDID fix, bit of a noob when it comes to that.

I think if nVidia could have a complete list of supported devices in their control panel so I could select it manually then it would probably work, will have a look at manually adding my Projector to the list today, again a noob so its trial and error at the moment.

My Denon receiver is only new but its 1.3 it’s the AVR890 looking online it looks like the AVR891 is 3D ready, I guess if anyone has the 891 model they could create a .inf and I could use it on mine as a patch, cheers.

Thanks Phil,

Tried that yesterday, it worked to some extent, the only thing is the Receiver would not output HD Audio without a monitor attached so might have to play around with that a bit more today i think.

I use 3DTV Play with a Denon receiver just fine. It hooks up to my mitsubishi TV and to my computer.
Make sure that your receiver says 3D-Ready on it though, some of the other ones won't pass HDMI1.4 signals, and will only pass lower bandwidth ones. Mine specifically says it and works just fine.
