Benq W1070 3DTV Ready - I cannot pass the setup
  1 / 2
Hi, I just bought the new Benq W1070. This projector support 3DTV Play by nvidia. That is the reason I bought it. I have also the original nvidia emitter and the nvidia glasses which work fine with my LG 3D monitor. The projector I know that supports 3D but under 1280x720. So the resolution is set there. Even if I use the projector under 1080p when I try to play 3D content, it automatically turn to 720p resolution. Just to let you know, I use a high speed gold with Ethernet support HDMI 1.4 cable no longer than 2 Meters. I also tried the vga cable but nothing. The problem is that I believe that I have done any possible combination regarding to resolution and connectivity but when I try to play 3d videos lets say, the projector behaves good and play the 3d content but the nvidia emitter doesn't turn on and thus the glasses do not work. Also note that I downloaded the latest 3.14 if I remember correctly drivers before I try anything. Please enlight me on this one as I believe that this is an issue that many people will face soon. Please note that the Projector is supported by nvidia. It has a nvidia 3dtv play sticker on top. Thanks Antonis

Hey there antonis. Doesn't 3DTV require you use the 3D glasses that come with the TV or projector? http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/3dtv-play-requirements-uk.html Nvidia glasses are only for active screens playing at 120hz. 3Dtv play only allows 60hz output at 720p. As far as I know, there simply isn't a way around this. I think you need DLP link active glasses to solve your problem.

Yeah, you have to use glasses compatible with the projector. Also remember to install the 3dtv play app to get games to work. Please keep us updated, I'll probably buy that projector too, I've heard it's really good so I'm very interested to hear how you make it work in 3d.

Just curious, where it has the 3DTV Play logo does that mean it comes with it, or do you still have to purchase a license? @Antonis85: Not sure where you're from and if you have DLP-Link glasses but I use them on my 65" RP DLP and I've used a bunch of different ones. For more expensive ones I'd suggest True Depth 3D DLP-Link glasses, $60 ea.: http://www.ebay.com/itm/True-Depth-3D-DLP-link-rechargeable-3D-glasses-for-DLP-3D-TVs-and-projectors-NEW-/130622402689 and for cheap ones I'd suggest these, $24 ea.: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-Universal-Active-Shutter-3D-Glasses-for-3D-DLP-LINK-Ready-Projector-/121001808309 Personally I like the cheap ones better, they're lighter and much more comfortable, BUT they lose sync very easily for me or should I say swap sync, looking away briefly or even sometimes when the screen gets too bright, like when a dragon in Skyrim is flambeing my a--! :D Now it could just be my setup, rear-projection vs front-projection. I wouldn't go rushing out and buying them for the whole family, I'd buy a pair and try them out first because if they do reverse sync and whoever is using them isn't used to 3D they might not know to hit the button on them to swap back and I'm sure that's no good for the eyes, especially on kids. The True Depth 3D ones are really good but not nearly as comfortable, heavier and stiffer, the other cheap ones are more like regular glasses ... they're the ones I use every night.

You can use your 3D Vision glasses with that projector, but you'll need to override the EDID to make it appear as a 3D Vision supported projector. Otherwise, Nvidia disables the USB driver's sync signal if using 3DTV Play

hmmm ok. Lets say that I go and buy some 3d glasses to use them only for the projector. Do I need to by a different emitter for them? How can I override the EDID I think EDID is a protected file in projectors firmware. Correct? If you have any idea how to do that and use my 3d vision glasses I would be more than glad. Thanks for the advices!! :)

DLP Link glasses sync via a white flash emitted by the projector that bounces of the screen. http://www.dlp.com/projector/dlp-innovations/dlp-link.aspx Overriding an EDID is a windows function. You're thinking of reprogramming an eeprom. Kinda the same, but very different.

Hello, I use a W1070 with 3d vision system, it's work well You must override the EDID to change in Window the Benq to Acer H5360, http://www.hdfever.fr/2011/02/20/tutoriel-faire-fonctionner-un-projecteur-3d-dlp-link-avec-le-kit-3d-vision/ Don't forget to save edid of benq before with this program, http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm When you launch a game, you must manually activated the 3D in benq menu. I have tested Dlp link 3D glasses and the 3d vision glasses is better. More contrast and less ghosting.

For future reference, can anyone say if this poses any realistic risks to damaging hardware? And if it's entirely on the windows side, can i assume that would mean if anything did go wrong your warranty would not be affected as it would be impossible to tell the EDID was messed around with?
Just for the record I've tested a lot of different brands, some were terrible and some were flawless. Like I said I'm on an RP DLP not an actual projector screen combo but I would guess it's the same with those.

I recently bought a BenQ TH681, which is kind of like the W1070, supporting Full HD, 3D and so on. Very slowly I seem to understand the differences between Nvidia's 3D Vision, 3D TV Play and all the benefits and disadvantages that come with these technologies. As my BenQ is attached to my GeForce via HDMI 1.4a and I'm using generic DLP-compatible shutter glasses I should be using 3DTV Play for stereoscopic gaming. However, it doesn't really work:
[.]I have to switch to 1080p24 every time I want to play in 3D.[/.] [.]Most games switch back to 60 Hz when starting, even if I set it to 24 Hz before.[/.] [.]The only one that worked until now is Trine 2[/.] [.]I'll have to buy 3DTV Play when the test period is over (which I won't, because of all these problems)[/.]
Is the proposed workaround solution to trick my projector into 3D Vision a better alternative for me? Is it even possible over HDMI? When I tried 3D Vision in discover mode I really loved it because it was so uncomplicated. I'd love to get that for my BenQ too....

An edid override should sort you out. You can play around to try and get it to detect as a 3d vision projector, but you'll probably need 3d tv play. http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/edid-override/ You will need to play at 1080p/24hz, or 720p/60hz though. I'd strongly recommend 720p/60hz, you can't effectively game at 24hz.

I second pirateguybrush. I recommend the "Sony-KDL55HX729" edid file as it's the one I'm using now and 720p works fine. I have the file if you want to use it. Here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nb2iwancgbu7g2e/Sony-KDL55HX729-EDID.inf?dl=0

Just some observations : - nvidia 3dtv over HDMI 1080p at 24hz is what Nvidia driver allows. - if your projector not compatible with Nvidia 3DTV, how come Trine 2 work? - There are games that do not run at 24hz, and people have to use some utility to set the monitor at 24hZ. You might want to check with your projector specs to see whether it's compatible with Nvidia 3dtv first before edid overwrite.
