3D Vision Performance Hit
  1 / 2
I'm wondering what the performance hit I'm going to experience if I decide to switch to 3D?

I currently use a 1920x1200 monitor on a Gainward 2GB 560Ti and i5-2500k cpu all running at stock speeds.

Scan have got the 3D Vision kit and LG monitor for a decent price and I'm thinking of getting it.

Usually what I do is reduce the settings to medium or low, so that I maintain the same framerates as in 2D, just with slightly reduced graphics (which the 3D more than makes up for).

3D IS NOT! supposed to
-make up for medium GFX!!
-make up for low brightness!!!

if anything it makes up for resolution because you have 2 eyes to begin with.

It makes up for 2D post process stuff that isnt designed for 60 frame per eye.

For sequential 3D , temporal stability is important 60 frame per eye is important. Forget that 3D makes up bogus.

When metro2033 came out , there were no Fermi chips yet, people readily dialed back the resolution, and said 3D looks nearly the same (on LCD's) . What happened since? Nothing! It looks nearly the same, horrible tradeoffs can't look too good.

I played though Metro2033 on the absolute lowest settings, in 3D, with a GTX 470 and got 80FPS. It looked great.

I have to agree with Cybereality. I rather play using 3d than without. If some effects doesn't look good i rather turn those off to view proper 3d. If my computer lag i turn down some eyecandy as well to enjoy 3d. 3d do make up more than enough for such sacrifices.

No shortage of confidence here. "In my opinion" is just not in his vocabulary.

Theres a shortage of time domain talk in this topic , no doubt about it! 60 frame per eye for the win! You shouldn't beleive anything about 30fps "decency"...

absolutely. The 3D Vision technology is something so different from what has been seen before. You do not need to maximize every little video settting for being able to fully appreciate visual effects of games. You do not even need anti-aliasing, trilinear or post-processing. Just maximize texture quality and enjoy 3D effects.

& Thats a bunch of bogus, you should buy new cards until you hit 60fps, with the highest spatial and temporal resolution. Things that won't contribute towards spatial resolution are turned off.

Lol! You actually tries to tell everybody what's their preferences? /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
I still stand my point but, that's of course only my opinion.
Everybody is imo free to have their own.

Buy new cards? While that is certainly ideal, that is not realistic for everybody, nor affordable. It is desireable to have the best image quality as far as economically possible if you are a serious gamer, but that does not entail burning a whole in your wallet in order to do so. The key phrase there is "as far as economically possible."

You ought to be a little more sensitive in how you approach what is the best for everyone.

I guess people really don't like when I call plasma and LCD screens "junkyard runaways", but its the truth, starved low power displays = bad 3D ...!
