Has there been a new patch lately? There was 1 3D patch but it did not fix all of the issues that were keeping me from playing. If you have some new patch news let us know!

I believe it still has the issues you posted on their forum, at least I haven't heard of an update...
As someone who has never played Alan Wake though, would you recommend I play it in 3d or 2d for the first playthrough?

I played pretty far in 2D...it was cool...then patch came out and I was disappointed...have not picked it up since.
amazing game but its a shame about the 3d. Its a game that with proper attention to 3d rendering could be a classic but saddly the 3d makes for a frustrating experience, for me anyways. I just wanted to sit back and be draw into this game but the 3d issues have taken so much of my time trying to fix i have chosen not to participate in this story any longer. Games such as Alan Wake need more attention in respect to 3d, its sad really.

Maybe it's something further down the line... but I'm playing with around 70% depth and conv set to a point near the front of the character and all the messed up shadows etc. seem to be working fine now. I didn't get too far though (that gas station in part 3) - but all the stuff that doesn't work 100% correct is barely noticeable. A wrongly lit surface somewhere in the distance, a few buildings looked weird during the ferry ride, a godray's wrong here and there - but it's really nothing (and I was annoyed with Skyrim's 3D without the community patches). :) The feeling of running through a dark forest with 3D ON is just one of a kind. :) Shame they didn't got it on the first try though - replayability's kinda low for this game. :(
