Sonic Generations
  1 / 4
So, the game is out right now on Steam. Screens are looking really good so far, some decent graphical options (but 3D isn't among them). Uncapped framerate too. I believe it should be great in 3D (at least I hope), since the console versions also had the feature. My Steam download still isn't finished, so I'm waiting for impressions here! =)

As someone who grew up on Sonic games (I have up post Sonic Adventure 2).. this is the first fun Sonic game I've played in years.

Having a great time.

Not too impressed with the performance though, I have an i7, nvidia 460m and 8gb of RAM. I can play Crysis 2 fine, but Sonic Generations has a LOT of slowdown and a lot of lag. Anyone else experiencing this?

What about 3D Vision? Tested? Slowdowns are really not a problem for the majority of the people who got the game already.

Well, I can't get this game to work at all, and it seems to be because of Optimus. It's not even recognizing my Nvidia card.

It would be nice to see these things, though.

The 3D mode in the option screen is not working for me, it just runs the game in a split 2 screen mode. 3D is working without it though, need to adjust the convergence. 2D objects do not look good. Other issues pop up like dust particles leaving a ghost images of Sonic.

Pretty much the 3D mode in the option screen needs fixing for 3D vision. Maybe through a driver update? Another possibility is that my computer is just being buggy, lol.

Well, I for one am very impressed!

My fiancee was very excited about this game, so we tried both versions of the 360 demo. It jerked. Badly. Very badly. Surely the one thing a Sonic game needs to be is smooth?

Kept praying for a PC version, figuring it can't actually be worse (despite people moaning about "console ports" the ability to run games at 1080p/60fps in most instances makes it literally 4x better than the console versions).

It looks amazing, and runs perfectly. I haven't got a 3d Vision "proper" setup at the moment *but* I am using 3D Vision Play on a Sony VPL-VW95ES projector and I can't stress enough how amazing this looks in 3D even without a profile or any setup at all. Literally just activated 3d through the Nvidia keyboard shortcut, upped the depth a fraction and it's mindblowing. Using the 3d option in the game just resulted in a side by side image with no 3D. Considering how amazing this looks when just using the keyboard shortcut (and bearing in mind I've literally only just got my projector and 3d play, I haven't tweaked it *at all*) I'd guess this will be absolute reference 3D gaming when a profile and user settings are deployed!

So.... you can't lose really. It's cheaper than the console version, looks much better, runs much better and has better 3d options for those suitablity.

As for the limited reports of slowdowns, it appears they are present on console versions too (to a worse degree) and it's worth bearing in mind the title has been out for less than 12 hours and there are no ATI or Nvidia profiles or user tweaks. I think I noticed a hitch here or there (that I'd put down to use of SLI without a profile) but nothing severe.

The game has built in 3D support like Tintin, so you don't need any profile to enjoy perfect 3D. CDjay, check out Tintin. Great 3D and it's a simple game you can play with your girlfriend. Looks great in 3D.

Your saying the in game 3D option is doing side by side? never heard of that happening on a PC game before. Really weird.

It's got built in support, but it seems like it's built in HDMI 1.4 3D support, not 3D Vision. It would be very easy for them to add native 3D Vision support with nVidia's NVAPI though, so hopefully there will be a patch.

Cheers dude, shall do!

No idea why using the in-game 3d option did nothing productive for me, it might be because I'm running the HDMI 1.4 (with 7.1 multichannel PCM) through an audio processor before it gets routed to the projector.

Either way, I'd lay fair odds that using the Nvidia route is preferable :)

Hi

We are looking into the issues with the developer as to why the in-game 3D option places the image into side/side view. I can confirm it does that for me too.

Despite being a DirectX9 game, why won't this run on a 7900GS?
