I can finally buy an Acer 5360 but all these damn online places are basically saying final sale. To those that are rainbow sensitive, how bad are the rainbows? I do see rainbows and they do annoy me, but Im hoping its something that you notice less over time.
If this is not your first DLP projector, how bad is the rainbow effect when compared to your previous projector?
Also, is there any difference in the rainbow effect when in 2d or 3d mode?

This is my first projector and I guess I must be rainbow-sensitive as my first week with the projector was a total nightmare with rainbows popping up everywhere!
A month later and some high contrast content is still distracting to watch but in general it's fine. I've got most problems with very bright highlights on dark backgrounds, eg. Assassin's Creed 2, Battlestar Galactica, most subtitle text.
The lightning-fast response time and 90" 3D display more than compensate for this however.
Are rainbows less noticable when in 3D mode? I would think the shutter glasses + decreased brightness would help with the rainbow effect?
To me 3D made little difference to the rainbow effect. The projector automatically switches out of Eco mode to compensate for the lack of brightness.

I hardly even notice it if everything is dark on screen and I look away fast I can see it but never had a problem when playing a game or watching a film maybe im not so rainbow sensitive.

Thanks for the responses. Gives me hope that it may not be so bad after u get used to it. I guess if I don't like it, I could always sell it.

I noticed RBE on the Viewsonic 120hz projector (1024x768) when I owned one for very brief couple of days, I always wondered too if would be sensitive to it as I currently have LCD Epson 1080P TW2000 for the last couple years. So yep I was unfortunately and this puts me off DLP unfortunately, the other thing I can't overlook on these 720P 120hz projectors Acer or Optoma is no lens shift horizontal and vertical meaning I can't just place the projector where my current one is. Very limited in where you have to place the sucker without this.
Really wish my Epson projector would do 120hz than I wouldn't even have to look at anything else, the picture quality of this thing is amazing to say the least!
110" screen to back him up :)

Sorry I probably said that wrong, they might have the very limited shift like the viewsonic did I could be wrong.
I just couldn't get the viewsonic to play nicely where my current projector was which was the main reason I got rid of it quickly.
From memory it had vertical on the viewsonic but no horizontal I can't remember now, anyway it lis ike you say it is very limited and didn't help my setup unfortunately.
I think due to these being not really home theater style projectors perhaps and more a business projector?
Acer guys or Optoma guys can you confirm do you have full lens shift, from my quick search about these it seems not.
I can probably live with RBE and these are pretty cheap 720P 3-D capable projectors, I'm torn whether to get one for now or await what is to come.
Glad you finally made good with VS pele01, I think you were the one that battled with it for so long weren't you.

I have this issue on my Sammy DLP. I thought it was just me...until I read this thread. GOD it's annoying. I don't really mind though. I can't believe they haven't fixed the drivers yet for the Sammy. I'm still on my alien monitor. When they fix the driver issue I will probably still remain on my alien monitor for awhile, it's the bomb. Stupid rainbows! LOL shaken head rainbow syndrome! ahaha and I can see like a half shape moon if I look in the white sky, upper and bottom right and left of my TV only in 3D. /sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' />

I called Acer and asked if they could ship me a strait projector and they told me they couldn't because the Acer was just born that way /yucky.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':yucky:' />
Here's hoping the Rainbows don't bother me to much. I should be ordering one within the week.

If you compare the rainbow effect against the Samsung RZ 2233 ghosting, the rainbow effect is less disturbing than the ghosting. In fact i've ordered my second Acer for Surround gaming. It's the perfect S3D solution for me. The bigger the screen the better.
