Steam allowing custom tags is potentially interesting if we tag enough.

Dead Space 2 has made the list, it's at the bottom of the most popular tags.

TombRaider has a '3D' tag. I just went and ticked that. Did I do bad?

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi Andy, we agreed on "3D Vision", for all games you've stereoscopically enjoyed (out of the box or with community fixes).
What would be interesting to discover now is: If a game has the "3D Vision" tag applied the required number of times in order to stick (presumably 3 or 4, by our experiments), but does not have place on the "Popular" list, can it not at least trigger the game to appear in the list of games tagged with "3D Vision" if this list is accessed manually (for example by clicking on the 3D Vision tag in the "Your tags" list).
I'm pretty sure it doesn't though. I'm sure there are a number of us who've hit the more obvious games. A game like Skyrim surely had at least three of us tag it. But unless it cracks the top 18 (or 20?) for that game, it doesn't show in tag searches. Which is pretty dumb. This is why I hope they eventually allow advanced searches that allow you to set the parameters. So the Beatbuddy's of the world would be visible during a big sale. Games that are completely off a person's radar.

You're right , of course. I seem to have lost track of my own logic :-) As we had discovered before, if the tag is not in the top 20 list sorted by popularity, it will not appear at all, anywhere. Neither the tag will appear in the tag list, nor the game in any searches performed on the tag. Let's hope this will change in the future - we realy need a "search tag" option. Any tag ever applied by 3 or more people for any game should show up in the tag search. But like Bo3b was saying, they're just starting out. Let's give them time, and in the meantime let's just tag good 3D games with "3D Vision". There will be plenty of games with less than 20 popular tags, so it will be relatively useful even in the short term. Plus, the more of us do it, the more chances that we will dislodge offensive/unhelpful tags off the list, to make ours stick. Remember to report those, as well. PS If people could also please tag "Origin" for Steam games requiring Origin to play. It's not always easy to see this on the game pages, and I want to avoid buying any such games. My boycot will not hurt EA financially, but I'll sleep better at night. Thanks

I've never seen a Steam game that requires Origin. Do they exist?
I've never seen a Steam game that requires Origin. Do they exist?
EA really doesn't release their big games on Steam anymore. Not inhouse games that require Origin (BF 3/4, Dead Space 3, Titanfall, etc.) But even before they made that move, they released quite a few games that require an Origin account. You don't actually launch the Origin client, but you need to enter a valid Origin account. Off the top of my head, Alice and Gatling Gears are two games that do this.

Ugh, Uplay ... I run Far Cry 3 from Steam ... it runs Uplay. Ok, I'll run it directly from Uplay instead then ... it runs Steam ... ugh, can't win. It really makes me wonder how stuff like that's going to work with SteamOS/Box.

Yeah, U-Play, Rokstar's thingie, etc - very annoying, when there's already Steam as main DRM platform. Don't get me started, half way thru Far Cry 3 I think I simply used a cracked exe to get to play quicker and avoid downtime of my net provider. Valve really need to collaborate with these companies to at least integrate their DRM into Steam, cause like you say, if they want the Steambox concept to take off they cannot ask users to mess around with accounts and logins and what not. At a minimum they must have some Steam integration of U-Play, Social Club, Origin account, whatever. But EA ... man, ... the nerve on those guys, to f*** their customess in the a** so hard, to the point where their games are not even available on Steam! Like, if digital was not yet invented, I would go to any electronics/media shop for all my games, but to a EA shop across town for the EA games. AND most of their games are on-line only, even if they don't really need to be. AND most of them are cash-grabbing junk. AND they get away with it ... Wow! Anyway, too off-topic for this post, and too hot-topic for my blood pressure.

Don't forget to tag Thief with "3D Vision" on Steam.

Can't remember if it was mentioned in here or not, it's late and I'm too lazy to check but we should probably tag OpenGL games as such. I know a lot of them say Dx9 but wind up being OpenGL ... and if helifax gets around to fixes any of them, like Amnesia, we can tag them 3D Vision also.

We got a little traction with our 3D Vision tag. 10 games show up, including modern Tomb Raider, which seems pretty good considering it's new and popular. Not sure about the whole tagging thing, there seems to be a lot of foolishness with the system. Trine for example doesn't show up as 3D Vision, but the 3D Vision Ready tag does show in top twenty. Then it also has 'action', and 'great narration' as top 20 tags. Is someone really going to search using 'action'? What does that even mean? It's not a card game? The Action group has 100 games, and includes Typing of the Dead. Max Payne has "Masterpiece", "Pills", "Finnish". I'm going to search for games where "Pills" play a prominent role? (L4D, Max Payne) Some of the really silly stuff has tapered off as we'd expect. Not sure crowd-sourced tags will be all that helpful, but it's interesting.

DmC always has hilarious tags. Its been such a target since tags came up and they keep taking em down but new ones keep popping up.
