This engine is horribly optimized, and this developer seems to have a track record of these sort of performance issues. That said after a couple of maps it usually goes away for me..
I'll play with the cache change and see if it does anything but I noticed it was bad without a fix installed as well

Thanks DJ-RK for the helpful reply.
I'll try the suggestions you have made and hopefully this will improve things for me, as the game is awesome in 3D thanks to you.
Glad to hear it's not a problem on your machine, so hopefully can be improved on mine.
It seems the 10 series GPU'S are having all sorts of problems with stuttering, low fps and high dpc.
I have this too, spent a few weeks trying to resolve it.
Kind of wish I bought a GTX 980 ti instead.
I did some in game monitoring yesterday and noticed that whenever I got the massive fps drops there was a 0% load on the GPU, only for a short time, but easily noticeable and then back to full load of 99%. Very odd.
I agree necropants, the engine's not the best. Like you say the issue seems to get better after a few maps.

Just to let everyone know.
DJ-RK tip of locating cache_shaders=0 and changing it to = 1 in the d3dx.ini worked for me, no more sudden, huge fps drops.
Absolutely loving it now!
Thanks for the support DJ-RK and once again thanks for the fix!
Yeah, or even better, I've updated the fix to include it, but I currently can't login to the AWS site to upload it because I lost my login info in a reformat :/. Currently waiting to see about getting my info reset, and once I do I'll upload the update, but for the time being I've added a comment instructing people on this setting.

With my setup, the fix does not seem to engage. However, 3D Vision is active, but shadows, fog of war, and other items are broken, and keyboard commands like F1-4 (to change convergence) are ignored. I followed all instructions, including importing XCOM2_profile.nip. Note that I do not see StereoFlagsDX10 in the imported profile settings, and DarkStarSword's Custom XML for Nvidia Inspector link (for manual change) does not appear to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Update: The problem appears to be related to Windows 10. The fix works great with my setup, under Windows 8.1 (still do not see StereoFlagsDX10 in the imported profile settings, but fix works).

hello ! same thing for me on windows 10.
can we hope a fix update ?
please, i'd like also to know how to do X-com 2 works using 3D Surround. the game works but it's very "zoomed" and not playable, it needs a fix for Tri-screens to adjust weight & height :)

The game fix works fine on Windows 10... that's what I use, and I fixed the game, so obviously it works on Win 10!
I just fired up the game for the first time in a long time, and 3D did not kick in. However, I went into Options, changed it from Fullscreen to Windows mode, saved, switched back from Windowed mode to Fullscreen, saved, exited the game and relaunched it and 3D kicked in fine.

No, I don't use 3D surround because I don't have the hardware for it, but you're welcome to order me a pair of matching BenQ XL2420TX's to match my current one, and then I'll be able to investigate that for you! ;)

DJ-RK - thanks again for your GREAT fix for the game. Unfortunately, your suggested process for switching to windowed mode/saving/switching back to full screen did not enable 3D to work correctly on my Windows 10 system (incorrectly interlaced 2D screen appears, instead).
However, I finished game with my Windows 8.1 system partition - 3D was great throughout campaign, and the hot keys for convergence changes were very helpful (I changed all keys to use same 0 depth for overlays).
With respect to gameplay, I felt Anarchy's Children DLC tended to break game (opponents much too overpowered, appear much too early in game). I suggest disabling DLC BEFORE starting game (cannot disable, once you start mission)...

@HELIFAX
hello ! can we hope a 3DSurround fix (using Flawless widerscreen) for XCOM2 ? http://3dsurroundgaming.com/WSF.html
or maybe is there a tutorial to explain how to do ? maybe i can try to create a fix (is that possible to create a Widescreen fix without to know create a "normal" fix for 3DVision ?
in fact the game is too much zoomed, and it's impossible to play, we see only the middle of the Xcom2 menu.

Was playing around with this last night for a while, I noticed they added Gamepad support which is nice to resolve the UI depth issues and convergence settings once you get used to it.
No problems here
