Its nice that nvidia finally updated their drivers, but make sure you understand what you're getting into. The new Vista drivers *only* work in anaglyph or with the Zalman Trimon 3d monitor. If you have shutterglasses or other stereo3d hardware it is not supported on the newest driver. I have an 8800 GTS 512 and I've tried to get it to work with the VR920 but it doesn't. Just giving you a heads-up.

the release of those stereo-drivers is one of the most bizarre things.

() XP user complain that there is no XP suport anymore

In reality, those drivers under Vista ONLY support anaglyph (which is a joke since i just got a 3D Plasma HDTV).

There are other 3rd party drivers which already support anaglyph..so releasing those "wonderful" Vista drivers with their "anaglyph support only" does make as much sense as an aircondition in siberia.

The funny thing is, that despites this release...to get certain hardware (shutters, DLPs, interleaved etc..) working we VISTA user would still have to revert to XP and use older XP stereo drivers and registry "tricks" to get 3d working, eg. for Samsung 3d ready TVs.

The XP people at the same time complain about this release since it is "Vista Only".

************************************************************
I kindly ask NVidia to release information about the registry keys needed for the support/activation of other, various kinds of 3D hardware like shutters, dual display etc. and not only the Zalman monitors!
The state of 3rd party stereo drivers is BAD...and we need "generic" drivers coming right from Nvidia, supporting the current generation of NV cards and current available 3d Stereo hardware!
***********************************************************

The issue with this drivers is even more bizarre since very old XP drivers once already HAD support for various 3D output devices...and now the support is disabled.

The Zalman only thing does makes some sense. If a lot of new 3d monitors are going to hit the market soon, Nvidia probably figured they could cash in on the licensing. This is not altogether unreasonable if you think about. Although I feel this is a task more suitable for middleware developers, such as Epic, Valve, id, Emergent, etc. It would be great if Microsoft could just roll stereo3d directly in DX11, but I doubt it. These are the guys making the 3d engines, they would know better how to set things up right. Sometimes I think the programmer nvidia has working on the s3d driver must be of the 11% of the population without depth perception. Seriously, some of the games come defaulted with like the eyes reversed and blatant errors like that. Maybe if Nvidia is making money off the 3d driver they can afford to hire a bigger stereo3d team or something.

The Vista only thing is really a puzzle though. I don't see it being a fiscally responsible decision (unless they were getting kickbacks from M$ or something). XP is probably a good 70% of the market or more. It just makes no sense to ignore the vast majority of your customers. But there had to be a reason. You just don't spend the time it takes to remove support unless you are getting something out of it.
