GTX1080 with Asus VG278 3D Monitor
Hi, I have a problem with the gtx 1080 and the Asus monitor vg278. After I have determined that hdmi does not work with 3d vision (120 / 60hz) I am back to the dvi port. Now, however, my monitor is not properly recognized as vg278 but "display device over dvi". If I now start the 3d vision software there is only on my screen "outside the range". Since the monitor is not recognized correctly and has a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, but you can set it to 2560x1444 in windows I guess that the 3d vision software sets the resolution to the maximum (1444p) which the monitor can not represent. Conclusion I can neither activate 3D via hdmi nor via dvi. There are also no drivers for the monitor to download. With hdmi cable the screen is recognized. Is there any solution?

The VG278H has an integrated emitter that can sometimes cause problems. Try unplugging the power cord for a minute to reset it. You'll need to connect it using a "Dual Link" DVI cable. It's also possible that the drivers did not install correctly, try re-installing them using DDU. (driver sweeper) If it's hooked up correctly, you should see a "green" 3D Vision logo in the control panel. I have the same monitor paired with a EVGA GTX 1080 over DVI. Usually don't have problems, though sometimes the monitor does not exit 3D mode (picture is dimmer) when exiting games after playing them in 3D. I wouldn't mess around with any weird resolutions. Set it at 1080p. Do a fresh reinstall of the drivers. You should be good to go.

Hello and thank you first. Before I bought the 1080 I had a 580 installed and so everything has worked. A new installation of the drivers I have done several times. I will try driversweeper instead. This morning I made a strange observation. Since yesterday I have nothing changed and this morning my monitor was immediately recognized and also 3D with Witcher has worked. When I then restarted the pc, he did not recognize my monitor again and thus also no 3D setup was possible. What's this?

Perhaps the dvi port of the 1080 is broken?

Perhaps you are not using a Dual Link DVI cable? Perhaps you are using the lower bandwidth Dual Link cable that does work with 1920x1080@120? Try setting the monitor to 1920x1080@120Hz in the Nvidia Control Panel. If you can can game in 2D at that refresh and resolution, the cable should be ok.
