Metaloholic, to understand why I say it is not the standard update Nvidia got us used to, check the the difference between 980 and 780Ti is is 10% or less in some cases. and 980 vs 780 is 20-30%.. the jump to 1080 is quite impressive from my point of view. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8526/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-review

but my poit was the 1080 does not quite offer any more than predicted and those lazy boys in nvidia have just used the gained heat benefit and pushed the clocks. 980ti has everything more than 1080 cuda cores ect. ok mem is lover but pretty much onlything bigger in 1080 is clocks. I call that milking the cow. again. Just what was expected offcourse it+s propably a great card for someone not currently at 980ti

I'm fine with the benchmark results. With an aftermarket cooler and some OC, it will be at the very least 4 times stronger than my GTX 760. I want a Dark Souls 3 benchmark.

From all the reviews I've read, the 1070 looks like it will fall between a stock 980ti and 980. An OC'd 980 ti is right on the stock 1080's heels. I'd doubt the 1070 will be there as well but we'll see.

With a Titan X I don't see any need for then new flagship. I skip this generation. Nothing important, actually even a bit disappointing. See you again when the Titan XXX or the 1280 TI will be available.

I am ussualy the first to point out that people make cards seem better then they are prior to release but.... A 980 was twice as good as a 680. That's two generations. A 1080 is twice as good as a 980. That's one generation. This is probably the best Performance jump in a long time. Like this exceeds the $1000 price point cards performance jumps.

Is there any news of when the non-founders cards will be on sale? Something tells me they are at least a month out. Ussually we see like different versions of boards reviewed but not this time around.

But I have an i5 6600k clocked @ 4.5 GHz & 16 GB DDR4 clocked @ 3000 MHz - even though it only uses 4GB Ram, Dark Souls 3 seems very CPU dependant to me. It would run at 60FPS if not in 3d. Re this GTX 1080 it represents an interesting proposition for us upgrading from series 6 or 7 - already 980Tis are popping up on Ebay at half original purchase price. If a GTX 1080 costs around about the same as a 980Ti new, it's obviously better to get the 1080 - but a 980Ti at half the price? What to do?

Is W7 still viable for these cards? Will the card require any of W10's features? Thanks!

DX 12 is Windows 10 exclusive. Microsoft's new hybrid multi GPU allowing graphic cards to be mismatched is W10 exclusive. But chances are that it will never be very functional and there's talk that people think Nvidia will disallow/disable it in their drivers. You can see a test from a few months ago here http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/02/directx-12-amd-and-nvidia-gpus-finally-work-together-but-amd-still-has-the-lead/ Also Microsoft will not add support for new CPUs in Windows 7, trying to force you to W10. http://www.anandtech.com/show/9964/microsoft-to-only-support-new-processors-on-windows-10
