Ultra D: Very promising glasses free screen technology coming to market
You've probably heard of Dolby 3D and a few others using lenticular technologies resulting in a much lower effective resolution than the panel comes with and a set number of viewing zones, but now there is something else and its looking very promising called Ultra D. It has no specific viewing zones, but its apparently not usable closer than 4ft. Having watched the video on how it actually works(second link), i think it is only an insignificant change to get it to work at desktop viewing distances, although it would have to come this way so you cant do it yourself at home and we will need to wait for desktop panels. But its a great sign for the potential of 3D. It also has software that in the future could potentially shift depth of any given object to where ever you want to put it, thus dynamically compensating for different viewing distances, IPDs and screen sizes.

I was pretty excited when I read these articles months ago, but as far as I'm aware of, it doesn't seem like any of this was shown at CES in January. So I'm pretty skeptical now. Seems like it could be more empty promises.

As long as this can equate to the same 3D game experience or better without the glasses, I'm in. If it's the movie 3D, forget it, may as well be fake 3d. The big problem I see is the "one for all" setting. Will the flexability of customizing to ones preference be an option?
