I'm looking for a 37-42" 3D TV. I went through most of the ones on the compatibility list, and found most are discontinued. I'm looking for one that I can buy through either Newegg.com (preferred) or Best Buy, as those are about my only options for my city. Like I said, none of the TV is the compatibility list aren't on either.
Does anyone have an opinion on which are the best TV's that are compatible with the most things? I play Crysis 2, BattleField BC 2, COD:Black Ops and other FPS. I'm purchasing it mainly as a computer monitor.

For 3D gaming, there is only brand, Samsung because all others do not support checkerboard mode so you are stuck with scaled 720P, something you definitely don't want. CB allows native resolution 3D gaming at 1920x1080 per frame, 60 frames per second under 3D Vision. 3DTV Play does not allow CB.
Don't be misled by incomplete info on nvidia's website. None of the Samsung 3D TVs are listed under 3D Vision, but they work.

at that size you really only have the option of the sammy. but you have to hack the drivers and bit and the hardware.
if you could get a bigger screen there are more options- that are also cheaper and have zero crosstalk in 3d.
for example a 65" Mitubishi DLP= $1000 brand new, and uses the five year old checkerboard mode. these require no hacking.
but this is probably too big for your setup. if thats the case you'll be stoked on the sammy- just dont expect a crosstalk free experience.
also- no HDTV offers 1080p 3d. they are all running half resolution modes, like checkerboard or side by side half, or 24hrz mode which will not work well for FPS. thats only 24 frames per second .

System:
Intel I7 920 overclocked to 4ghz
Asus Rampage Extreme II
2 Ge-force 480 in SLI
GTX 295 PhysX Card
12gb ddr3 2000mhz ram
Intel SSD in RAID 0
BR RW
1000w Sony surround sound
NVIDIA 3D Vision
3d displays tested:
Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)
Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)
Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)
23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)
I own a 46" Sony nx711 (bought used on Ebay) that only does 720p and im using it as a computer monitor too. First, i think your maximum of 42"'s is a good one. Mine is a little too big sitting 2'8" from it and you can increase your screens field of view by pulling it toward you if desired anyway. As far as 3d, I can say that i find it F'ing amazing and i don't think its going anywhere but up because of the simple fact that it brings a real, virtual 3rd dimension. Its not a gimic, 2d to 3d conversion is a gimic, this is a 3rd dimension. Yet it has drawbacks atm, the shutter glasses dim the picture somewhat and even reduce the contrast and colors lose a bit of their vibrancy. There is some crosstalk/ghosting in LCD tech (and others?). The biggest thing is the resolution loss from 1080 to 720. There is no flicker of any kind like i thought there would be, so thats good. For me, i believe ill be playing all my games in 3d now. I've played through half of Metro 2033(my 3r play through) and most of Bad Company 2 and i've had about 200 "hoooooollllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy sssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiitttttttttttttt, thats amaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzing" moments already. Its made large sections of Metro 2033 much, much more interesting, such as the outdoor sections for example, which are so detailed, model and texture wise, that in 2d it looks kind of messy and intangible to me, like going into bushed in 2d. In 3d, everything has a place along the 3rd axis and its easy to distinguish whats in front of what.
Disclaimer:I just got this setup and i could still be in the honeymoon faze mentally, bear in mind.
