I hope NVidia supports this new 3D HMD from Sony
  4 / 7
Call me reckless, but I pre-ordered that one indeed. So here's hoping that Andrew and the brave staff at Nvidia get support up and running. Could be a really unique opportunity to push through to a new level of 3d.

I am about to buy an LG 55LW5700 which is uses 120 htz passive 3d with HDMI 1.4, just as the 3dtv play supported 42LW5700 does. But I have held off, wanting to confirm this TV will be supported. I have already purchased the 3dtv play software.

Am I safe to buy this tv, and will it be detected?

I remember drooling over the Sony Glasstron around 1999. It was so expensive though, and even back then it didn't look very good.

Head tracking would be super cool. Like in Arma II you can have your head move, indipently from your rifle. Also in flight sims and race games. That would add quite a bit to the immersion and suspension of disbelief.

In previouse attemts, this tech has been cost prohibitive and not good enough. Though times are changing. Hopefully soon. I would love to see Sony knock one out of the park with this thing and start a similar revolution that they did with the Walk-man.

There is one other company coming out with a head mounted display for the PC. Theirs look like sun glasses, very light. And coust less than the these Sony ones. I'll try to find it and I'll post it in this thread. Perhaps Nvidia can take a look at them too.

Yea those are def. what people are looking for with headtracking(plus you wont bump into walls like you will with sony one and don't weigh 1 pd) I plan on getting sony one cause I don't care about headtracking. Only FOV/ and screen qualitity @ also very easy to keep screen clean since its practically a helmet.
Also keep in mind though those glasses are only compatible with pc. Price is def. competitive though since it includes headtracking....and you don't look like a tron dj.

Maybe this works better with good old 3d vision since it uses VGA/DVI? No 5.1 audio though

I've ordered the Vuzix 1200VR. I know they won't be as good as the Sony, but they have headtracking and they are available today. They work with IZ3d and DDD drivers, in addition to the Vuzix driver. Will post a review on MTBS3D in the next week or so.

I have this TV and yes it is supported. If your ok with passive 3D (I have a DLP projector, this TV and coming soon, the lovely Sony HMZ.
Im happy with the TV overall, it suits me well, since for multiple people I can use the TV, and for just two I can use the projector, and for just one..well Im sure you can figure that out/

I'm going to buy a similar 3dtv: the LG 32LW5700 (same serie, 32" instead of 55" because I'll use it as my secondary monitor to play multimedia files).

Do you think it will be ok, even if it isn't listed on the "system requirements" page? I think the specifics should be the same as the 42LW5700 model...

Couple thoughts:

You know, if there is room, you could attach some small fresnel lenses pretty easily to the front of the view ports. It would magnify the image basically, giving you a higher FOV. Higher levels of magnification would expose the pixel structure, but potentially give you a huge FOV increase. Smaller levels of magnification might be the sweet spot for the movie theater experience. This would preferably be glass plano-convex lenses as the plastic fresnel lenses have visible grooves that effect the picture. It would probably be feasible to attach them with packing tape applied to the edges. I should mention that i turned a 19" CTR monitor into an IMAX Theater, and that isn't much of an overstatment, it had the feel of a real IMAX Theater along with the immense FOV. The way i had it set up was very uncomfortable though, but this might work much better.

Fresnel used with PC monitor as example:
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12795

plano-convex:
http://www.optics-online.com/pxs.asp

Also, for 2D, since there are two screens to work with and not just one, and your brain forms those two images together into one image, I wonder if you could take a 1080p signal and process it in some sort of way so that the two screens essentially retain all of the detail of the original image?
