The AW2310, what I have, and the new Acer and the two best LCD solutions available. I am quite happy with mine. It, in my opinion, works great both in 3D and out.

Reviews on the two basically said the are both very good, the Acer is a little better in 3D, less ghosting apparently but it is minor difference. The Alienware was considered slightly better in 2D. This is just from what I have read and I didn't read everything.

I would agree for the most part. The Alienware monitor is very nice. I have had very few complaints so far. The only thing that I didn't like was that it had an off color tint to it when I first turned it on. However, that was quickly fixed by setting it to "Game Mode". Game Mode also provides dynamic backlighting depending on the overall brightness of the colors on the screen. For example, if most of the screen is black, it will dim the backlight. :) I would go for the Alienware. It is also very adjustable. ;)

Thank you for the quick responses everyone. Good to see some positive reactions. Is the overall use also good, i mean with website browsing, word etc. is it easy on the eyes to read the text or do you also get a halo effect like with the Acer ( Appelsap mentioned before).

DArn it, i still can't decide. I also read the review of the alienware posted on the nvidia forum.

I can get the Alienware for 424 euro + 129 euro for the 3dvision glasses = 553 euro +13 euro's delivery = 566 euro's

Or

The Acer for 300 euro+ 129 euro for the nvidia glasses= 429 euro + 13 euro's delivery= 442 euro's

So the big Q is, is the extra 124 euro worth it ?:S

This is a conclusion i read on a review site tomsguide:
Our conclusion: if you want the best, go with the Alienware OptX AW2310. The extra ports, available swivel and tilt, touch-sensitive buttons, and sleek design will make any desk purr with satisfaction. If, however, you’re more frugal and don’t need the extra toys, Acer’s GD235HZ (24?) is more than an excellent choice. No matter what choice you make, you will absolutely improve the quality of your 3D gaming experience.

PS. On the 7th of april the Alienware will be priced 499 euro's again

Well, I've literally just bought the Alienware monitor... /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

I read a pretty extensive article comparing it to the ACER. The ACER did SLIGHTLY out perform the Alienware in a couple of places, but it was as good or worse in the rest. The Alienware is more expensive, but you get more bang for your buck...

Also, something that sold it for me is the 4 way USB hub which is built in - nice and tidy (keyboard, mouse, IR Reciever and glasses charger can be used from the monitor) = less cables all over the desk.

I haven't heard of the new ASUS ones... so I cannot really comment on those, but out of the others, I'd choose (& have done) the Alienware.

Okay i purchased the Acer GD245HQbid. After contacting Dell they told me that i have to wait 10 Business days tops for my product. The 2D might not be so great with the Acer, but i hope that some tweaking might fix it a bit. Either way i purchased the screen + the glasses. The Alienware is available till tomorrow for 424 euro's for anyone who's interested. The price will change soon back to 499 euro's.

So i spent a total of 465 euro's (Acer+ extra support 300 euro + 28 euro's, 2 year warranty, 1 year return money back) and the Nvidia glasses ( 129 euro's) ( with 12 euro's discount code) at pixmania. I hope the 3D is worth it. I will post my findings once it gets here. If you don't want to have a headache with the 2D tweaking, the Alienware is the best i guess. I have my Samsung here for my 2D usage if it is really necessary. In the end i went for the best budget buy.

Thanks everyone for your opinions.

I got the screen today. At first i connected it with a Konig dual DVI Cable to my GPU. The screen began artifacting like crazy filled with dead pixels. This was fixed using the dual DVI cable that came with the screen. Very strange though because there both Dual DVI cables.

If u want a thoroughly review search for appelsap's thread.

The 2D, text reading is tiring on the eyes. I have the latest drivers installed (screen and gpu and 3dvision 1.23). I tried Call of Duty MW2 and got a bit of ghosting. The first thing i noticed in 3D was that the objects went further into the screen and that pop out feeling i thought i was going to experience wasn't there. I'm still not that impressed, i will try some more games later.

It is more pleasant to read text on my samsung.. the angle view on the acer is better. My samsung uses a TOC teechnology.

I still find it very strange that my cable did not work properly.. Screen went all crazy as if it was damaged from inside. It was visible at (60 hz, 120 hz, safe mode, bios)

the 3D viewing worked well for awhile and out of the blue i get this error.

non-stereoscopic mode or something like that.. and the 3d is all messed up. Tried fiddling with the settings on the control panel.
Going to do a restart too.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 3D Aquaknox.. Agree with you 2D on Acer is tiring and gives me a bad headache after a while.. I'm back on the old Samy for 2D. The up side is I think the Acer looks great in 2D for gaming [nice to have double the frame rate], it's just browsing where it sucks.

Yeah, most games seem to pop in rather than out.. Not sure why that is. The major factor for me in enjoying 3D is the actual game, I mean lately I've been playing Borderlands a lot, and while it looks ok in 3D, I prefer to play in 2D, as I don't have to sacrifice frame rate, shadows and a few other bits and bobs. On the other hand a game like Burnout Paradise, which I don't actually like all that much looks awesome in 3D. A lot of folk don't mind compromise, but I'm not really like that, and you have to be willing to compromise if you really want to make the most out of 3D at the moment.

Thanks Obone. Im going to setup my sammy dual screen with the acer.. i just have to make some space on my desk.. I have my pc tower on the desk, dont like to put it on the ground or in the desk.

I fixed the problem with a restart. So now the 3D works again. Hope the error stays away and doesnt come back again.

I saw the NVIDIA 3dvision experience disk with some videos of actual gameplay... World of Warcraft was the only game with a pop out effect.. The blue dude had his sword pointing out of the screen. The ghosting was also there, but i try to ignore it. Nvidia couldve added more game video's, it was too short.. and the video quality was not that good. Maybe high def quality next time? Would be nice to see on the disc.

The Acer seems ok, and it is alot cheaper. I will try more games later. Got to go now.
Too bad about the pop out effect.. for me that is 3D. Maybe it is because alot of the games werent meant to be played in 3D and are just being converted. Im going to try my Battlefield tonight i saw on the box that it is 3d ready. Only prob is that battlefield is a GPU and CPU hogger and i think that SLI is the only way to play that smooth with 3D on. Battlefield Bad Company 2 btw.
