I have no idea if I should post this in the 3D Vision part or the Surround part as is both actually:))
Anyway..
Well here it is...
3D Surround Gaming
After spending more than a week to make this possible it's finally live!!!!
As it is said on the website is still a prototype as I am still experimenting various things.
WHY THIS... ?
... Because of the lack of content !
There isn't any website to stream 3D Videos in Surround resolutions...That's right!!! SURROUND resolutions in stereoscopic 3D,
mainly since it is considered a "niche" market and it also requires a lot of storage space to "hold" a video.
For the last couple of weeks I have tried everything:
- YouTube support 3D Videos up to 720p in Full resolution Stereo3D.
- YouTube's re-encoding sometimes provides poor results.
- YouTube cannot process resolutions higher than 4096 and therefore no 3D Surround.
- 3DVisionLive offers support for maximum 1Gb filesize, 5 minutes length and the usual 720p resolution.
- I have tried a couple of other websites with no success to load and view even a single monitor 3D Video.
Supported Playback types
- Single Monitor 2D (only "center monitor" of the video is displayed )
- Surround 2D (video is displayed across 3 monitors) when browser is set to fullscreen mode on machine that supports Eyefinity/Surround
- Single Monitor 3D (only "center monitor" of the video is displayed ) when Firefox is used in combination with 3D Vision.
- Surround 3D (video is displayed across 3 monitors) when browser is set to fullscreen mode on machine that supports 3D Vision and have Surround enabled.
Things to consider a.k.a Limitations
- Don't attempt to view the videos using a non broadband connection. (playback will suffer from stuttering.)
- A good broadband is required for this.
- Don't use Internet Explorer as it does not support HTML5 video playback properly. Use Chrome for 2D playback or Firefox for 3D Playback (as per nVidia specifications)
The website is hosted on a "shared" Bluehost server.
Video Playback might also stutter due to server load at peak times. Putting the video on "Pause" for a while might help with in providing a better playback experience.
So...try it and let me know what you think:)
Currently only one video is present for Metro - Last Light, recorded in 3D Vision Surround.

Helifax

just checked it out...when firefox is only on one screen, the image is cropped -- no surround view. that is, only 3D Surround gamers can experience the ultra widescreen sight. or I need to do some tweaking to Firefox?
I think this site will be much more meaningful if standard 3D vision users can get a sense of what 3D Surround feel like...since 3D Surround gamers can just play the game themselves directly.

Yes, basically it scales correctly based on how many displays you have/use, but I understand what you are saying.
The idea behind it was to share video content in a native format (thus the scaling/cropping). Fitting the whole image in one screen is easier to do than this but will add an big anamorphic effect to the video (big huge black bars on top and bottom).
Thank your for the input. I will add it as a feature so the users can switch between proper scaling or "Fit to Screen" :)
Best Regards
PS: Also pressing F11 in firefox if you are using 3 screens will render it on all 3 screens in Surround

Thank you again for all the feedback!
Since I liked your idea I have now updated the website with the following:
Updates:
- Videos can now be displayed in Surround 2D on one monitor (fit to screen mode)
- It can also be seen in true Surround/Eyefinity resolution by putting the browser in FullScreen on a setup with 3 screens.
- Whole 3D surround resolution can be seen on one screen with 3D Vision (fit to screen mode)
- 3D Surround can be seen at native resolution putting the browser in FullScreen on a setup with 3 3D screens and 3D Vision support.
- Support for displaying only the center Screen has been maintained for both 2D and 3D.
- Added various other information points (Like how many videos are in the playlist, etc)
The plan would be to try to provide more videos like these in terms of quality/resolutions.
I am looking forward for any feedback you can give me and I really hope you enjoy the website as much as I enjoyed creating it and most importantly sharing videos (even if at the moment only 1 exists).

Hi,
Sorry to say but the Metro videos aren't working for me. I have 3x Asus VG278HE, but I am waiting on a new gfx card so I can only use a single monitor for 3D right now.
I am using Firefox nightly build, I tried both fit to screen mode and center view...the video plays but it does not appear to be in 3D at all (not blurry at all w/o glasses). I'm pretty sure nothing's wrong with my setup as I alt tabbed to Nvidia 3D Vision player and Avatar ran in 3D fine on the same monitor.
Also on a side note, I'm curious since these do appear to be streaming, what is the upstream bit rate it takes to stream the surround videos to a single person?

Hey there, There is something wrong there...what message do you receive when you try to play in Firefox? is 3D Vision properly detected and enabled? If everything is ok it should say and the video should automatically start in 3D (IF you haven't changed when 3D Vision kicks in in Control Panel)
Let me know what you find? I am also very curios about this too (if it works for other people)
There is no real streaming so to speak. The videos are downloaded and "fed" to the player. The only limitation is your bandwidth and the server load. They are normal files (like YouTube uses) but different in the way there where encoded.
Hope this helped you:)

I have updated Metro Last Light 3D Surround movie clip and now it is displayed at full side-by-side resolution (Total Resolution: 7968x800; Per Eye Resolution: 3984x800).
Technically it should provide double the resolution on width and twice the quality.
Let me know if you experience any problems playing the movies of if you find the quality good /bad.

Helifax

;)) Most likely you don't have 3D Vision set on:
"Select when the display is in 3D mode" TO "Only while 3D programs run" in nVidia Control Panel.
It might be set to Fullscreen programs run or something;)) (or is a weird setting in your configuration) as sometimes when you install new drivers without ERADICATING the older one, settings aren't propagated properly;))
Anyway glad it works;))

Helifax

Helifax

Check your Browser/Hardware
https://www.3dvisionlive.com/3dv-html5-detection

My emitter is bright green and the glasses are powered on.
Here is what I see in Firefox:
edit: Okay nvm. My emitter appeared on but then I hit the button again and it went into 3D finally :)
;)) Most likely you don't have 3D Vision set on:
"Select when the display is in 3D mode" TO "Only while 3D programs run" in nVidia Control Panel.
It might be set to Fullscreen programs run or something;)) (or is a weird setting in your configuration) as sometimes when you install new drivers without ERADICATING the older one, settings aren't propagated properly;))
Anyway glad it works;))

- Just finished recording and publishing Mass Effect 2 in 3D Surround. For the "fun of it" I have recorded 48 minutes of the "Lair of the Shadow Broker" DLC since I know is among the most popular content in the game.
Mass Effect 3 in 3D Surround will be coming up:) in the following days.
Don't forget to check it out at: 3D Surround Gaming Gallery !!! and also vote for the next series.
