I doubt if anyone with a checkerboard HDTV (Samsung,Mits, or LG) would have purchased 3DTV Play cause it's such a rip off.
Err, hows that? It costs less than half of 3dvision... Its not like that emitter does anything when you use a 3dtv. I'm sure AndrewF will get checkerboard enabled for the 3dtv play customers.

Do you know why the .inf hack (apparently) causes the left/right eye reversal in checkerboard?
3D Vision system has eyes reversed compared to rest of the world afaik as the NVidia sample 3D videos from their site also has eyes reversed.

What I meant was that if you want a software only solution, you would get TriDef which has checkerboard for only ten bucks more. If $10 is an issue, get checkerboard iZ3D for the same price as crippled 3DTV Play.

Just curious about the people who are saying the eyes are reversed. During the 3D Vision/3D Play setup there is a screen where you close one eye and see if you see triangles or hexagons (or something like that). That is the screen that tell the driver what eye is seeing what picture. If you run through that setup again and tell it the OPPOSITE of what you see it should solve this problem.
roller11 and Nobsi, especially Nobsi. I didn't post my INF before because I didn't want a fix for this issue getting out until I had at least gave good old complaining (to nVidia) a try. I wanted to try to get it fixed the right way first and was hoping to get as many others to join in complaining with me as I could. And it worked!! Or at least I believe it did. I think nVidia will give us back checkerboard at this point.
Anyway Nobsi, I just wanted to let you know why I never sent it. I think I did the right thing in the long run, but still feel bad about not sending you the file. Hope you understand.

Yeah, except that the setup is boobey trapped...if you do the opposite, the next screen complains and won't let you finish setup. And Samsungs correction isn't permanent. As soon you go to 2D, the fix resets so you have to do it everytime.

You could always wear the glasses upside down or stand on your head! /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' />
Actually, I've tried upside down, but it was somewhat uncomfortable cause the weight of the glasses is concentrated on a small area of my nose.
I just can't understand why the .inf would affect the polarity of the glasses, that is a complete surprise.
BTW, for what it's worth...I tried the free trial D/L of TriDef-3D Ignition and was impressed that it did a much better job in Medal of Honor SP vs both Nvidia and iZ3D. There is a texturing/lightmap artifact with the latter two.
On some surfaces, the lighting/textures are perfect through the right eye, but totally missing from the left. This gives an irritating flashing effect. With TriDef, no such artifact, textures are perfect for both eyes. The difference is dramatic, I will play MoH with the free D/L, definitely check it out if you have interest in this game.

What do you mean, Nvidia will give us back checkerboard??? We never had checkerboard through Nvidia drivers I think, cause most 3DTV's don't have this 3D mode, only Samsung 3DTV's and DLP's. I'm pretty sure Sony and Panasonic don't checkerboard. So why Nvidia would be interested in giving us checkerboard if only those TV's have the feature and Panasonic which is partner with Nvidia doesn't support checkerboard mode???
Very interesting thread this one, but I'm still not sure the advantages about using checkerboard format, since it's only half the resolution per eye.
I have tried Tridef and IZ3D and I didn't like it at all, very amateur 3D effects, nothing to do with 3D Vision or 3DTV Play in terms of quality.
Anyway, I also don't like the limitation of 24hz 1080p, so I mostly play games in 3d with my Alienware 1080p 23" display and watch 3D movies in my Sammy 63" 3D Plasma.
I don't think 1080p 60hz checkerboard format offers better quality than 720p 60hz frame packing, cause frame packing is full resolution per eye and checkerboard ain't. I've also play Avatar the game in checkerboard format, using the game's 3D profile. I liked it, but it's definately not the same thing as 3DTV Play 1080p 24hz in terms of 3D quality, forget about the sluggish 24 hertz.
I'm not sure what's page flipping, neve heard of this 3D mode, but I also have a Samsung 63" 3D Plasma and it has 7 3D layout options and like you guys said, one of them is this page flipping (frequency mode. In order to enable all 7 layout options I must rename HDMI/DVI 1 as PC, otherwise the TV will only show 3 layouts instead of 7 when connected to the PC. I usually rename HDMI/DVI 1 as AV receiver as I use a Onkyo receiver, but this option doesn't show all 7 layouts only 3, unless I rename it as PC. I don't know what you guys mean by checkerboard option is greyd out by factory standards, how do I enable it without having to rename the HDMI/DVI 1 input as PC??? Where is this option?
I would like to try this out, but I found some information confusing about having to cover the 3D Vision IR receiver. Checkerboard mode I'm familiar, but then others here are saying it displays a nasty red message when using rollermod.inf. I hate those red messages, if you can't get rid of the red message while playing in 3D, than what's worth it???
I also read here that this page flipping 3D mode gives you full resolution per eye, is this really 1080p 60hz per eye??? So, it's the same thing as if we had 3DTV Play 1080p 60hz??? Same quality, is that right??? If so, that's amazing, cause I can honestly say checkerboard sucks, it's not even close to the quality you get with 3DTV Play at 1080p frame packing? Forget about 24hz limitation, I mean the graphics quality? Checkerboard is half resoution per eye, and I've tried Tridef and didn't like at all, vey amateur compared to 3DTV, I'd rather play at 720p 60hz frame packing than 1080p checkerboard.
So, I'm interested about this page flipping 3D mode, but I also read here that it's not very good for shooter games, why is that?? And also that it looses sync all the time, that kinda sucks. I don't get why do you have to cover the IR receiver, since it has nothing to do with 3DTV, I mean you need it connected to your PC to recognize 3DTV Play, that's all, I don't get this problem? When using 3DTV Play I have to set my TV as primary display and I don't need to cover the IR receiver, since the TV is working with the built in receievr and it's own glasses, why cover the 3D Vision receiver if using checkerboard or page flipping 3D mode with rollermod.inf??? Does Checkerboard and Page Flipping 3D modes need the TV's picture correction feature, or just checkerboard???
Is it easy to go back to 3DTV Play mode once we try this hacking with the rolermod.inf file that Roller invented??? Don't want to get stuck with hacking and not be able to use 3DTV Play again. Sorry about all these questions, but I found this all very interesting and needed to undertand how to fully works. Congrats on the modding.

Checkerboard is selectable in 3D Vision CD1.33/258.96 drivers. It's called DLP.
why Nvidia would be interested in giving us checkerboard
Because 1920x1080 checkerboard is beautiful and grotesque 720P framepacked is ugly due to non-integral scaling.
while Panasonic which is partner with Nvidia doesn't support checkerboard mode???
Which is why nobody would buy a Panasonic for 3D gaming, it doesn't support checkerboard. Checkerboard is the only native resolution, full framerate available on any HDTV, so effectively there is no choice, get Samsung or Mits.
but I'm still not sure the advantages about using checkerboard format, since it's only half the resolution per eye.
Is this just a hunch, a theory, or have you 3D gamed on a samsung plasma in both checkerboard and 720P framepacked?

you're comparing checkerboard on a 63" plasma vs 1080P framepacking on a teeny tiny little monitor screen. Of course the tiny screen is going to look better visually because it has higher pixel density (pixels count per degree of FOV).

You can't, you must rename it "DVI PC". That's the only way to get the checkerboard option.

you can get rid of the red message. wikipedia "555 timer" and refer to astable mode schematic. Here are the RC values I used, they work: R1/R2/C = 560/10K/1 micro farad. Be sure to run signal/5V/gnd to tip/ring/sleeve on your 3/32" plug into the emitter.
I also read here that this page flipping 3D mode gives you full resolution per eye, is this really 1080p 60hz per eye???
sluggish performance and severe mouse lag of 30 frames per eye.

For checkerboard, the answer is clear...the nvidia emitter is operating under 3D Vision, not 3DTV Play. So it will output a sync signal even though there's no sync signal coming into the emitter. The nvidia sync signal will interfere with the real sync signal coming from the samsung emitter, result is glasses receive two signals, so glasses get confused. all you need is to put some small object between nvidia emitter and glasses to break line of sight. But in page flipping, the interference is much more severe and the small object fix doesn't work. I had to completely cover the emitter and move it far away as possible and put the whole thing under my desk. Only then did I maintain sync.
To fix prob Does Checkerboard and Page Flipping 3D modes need the TV's picture correction feature, or just checkerboard???
Both need picture correction. This is a worse prob than the red message because it must be done every time. The red message fix is a few minutes one time only, and all parts are at radioshack for about $10 USD.

I didn't know about this DLP attached to driver 1.33. I had this driver installed a few months ago, but didn't know there was a DLP option available/ Where would I select this option to play games with checkerboard mode??? So, I guess we have a chance of Nvidia bringing this mode to us again, and then no worries with annoying red messages or having to cover the 3D Vision IR receiver?
What do you mean, checkerboard is the only full framerate available resolution in any HDTV? What about frame packing 1080p, or you mean full framerate like 1080p 60hz? Anyway, don't you think 1080p checkerboard is far away in quality compared to 1080p framepacking, quality, not talking about framerate or hertz??? Full resolution per eye play a big role in 3D.
Well, A lot of people are buying Panasonic and Sony 3DTV's, I like Samsung cause it has more features, but then why Panasonic is partner with Nvidia, if checkerboard is the way for gaming with a 3DTV, why Nvidia doesn't see that way, why aim for frame packing mode instead and the limitations of 1080p 24hz??? I understand consoles are 720p, so its ok for them, but Nvidia is PC gaming, so I don't get it why framepacking, if checkerboard is better overall, as playing in 720p is grotesque in a big screen, I agree, and 1080p 24hz unplayable for 90% of games???

Is this just a hunch, a theory, or have you 3D gamed on a samsung plasma in both checkerboard and 720P framepacked?
you're comparing checkerboard on a 63" plasma vs 1080P framepacking on a teeny tiny little monitor screen. Of course the tiny screen is going to look better visually because it has higher pixel density (pixels count per degree of FOV).
You can't, you must rename it "DVI PC". That's the only way to get the checkerboard option.

It's not hunch pal, I've played Avatar in checkerboard mode using the game's 3D native settings, not Nvidia drivers. It looks good, but not even close as playing it with 3DTV Play at 1080p, I mean 3D quality, not the sluggish 24hz. Full resolution per eye plays a big role like I said and checkerboard is half resolution per eye.
I'm not comparing the 3D quality in a 3DTV 63" with my 23" display, cause like you said, the 3D in my 23" Alienware display looks far better than 3DTV, It's likle said, the smaller the screen the more pixels density you get, so 3D quality is also sharper.
It's funny though that movies look way better in a 63" Plasma than in my 23" display in terms of 3D quality. It's overall way better, but games are a different story. Go figure???

Checkerboard is selectable in 3D Vision CD1.33/258.96 drivers. It's called DLP.
Because 1920x1080 checkerboard is beautiful and grotesque 720P framepacked is ugly due to non-integral scaling.
Which is why nobody would buy a Panasonic for 3D gaming, it doesn't support checkerboard. Checkerboard is the only native resolution, full framerate available on any HDTV, so effectively there is no choice, get Samsung or Mits.
I didn't know about this DLP attached to driver 1.33. I had this driver installed a few months ago, but didn't know there was a DLP option available/ Where would I select this option to play games with checkerboard mode??? you can get rid of the red message. wikipedia "555 timer" and refer to astable mode schematic. Here are the RC values I used, they work: R1/R2/C = 560/10K/1 micro farad. Be sure to run signal/5V/gnd to tip/ring/sleeve on your 3/32" plug into the emitter.

Man, I'm really greatfull for all your help and patience, but whatever you wrote above sounds like greek to me. I didn't understand any of this. I live in Brazil and we don't have Radioshack here unfortunately, so I really have no idea how to do this in order to get rid of the red message that appears when using checkerboard with your modding skills.

No, it's 1080P 30 Hz per eye.
Is your comparison with both modes played on a 63" plasma, Or are you saying 720P FP on a computer monitor vs checkerboard on a 63" plasma?
sluggish performance and severe mouse lag of 30 frames per eye.
So, this Page Flipping 3D mode is the same thing as 1080p 24hz used by 3DTV, I mean, it's even better, cause you said it's full resolution per eye, and 30hz, which is better than 24hz per eye. So, you play games at 30fps with Vsync on, that's good I guess, 30fps is enough for most games, way better than playing games at 24fps. I don't get why is it so bad to play 1st person shooters at 30fps, you said sluggish mouse control, is that so???? I really didn't understand that part you use a refresh mooding for choosing 30hz in the Nvidia control panel, there's only 24hz and 60hz available???
I'm always comparing 720p framepacking vs 1080p checkerboard in my 63" Plasma, not PC display. I didn't tried many games, just Avatar. But I did try Mafia 2, GTA IV and other games with Tridef which uses checkerboard and I hated, very amateur 3D effects, crapty in my opinion. But I'm not sure how Nvidia's checkerboard works compared to Tridef, using your mod skills.

very good question.
Both need picture correction. This is a worse prob than the red message because it must be done every time. The red message fix is a few minutes one time only, and all parts are at radioshack for about $10 USD.
Yes. Try the attached file to restore 3DTV Play, reboot required.
Thank you for showing interest! :)

I really would like to try out your modding, but I'm afraid I won't know how to get rid of the red message since I didn't understand that part very well, and not having Radioshack arround, not sure what parts to use??? I guess it's not just about virtual hacking, I need to buy separate parts and that's just to much information for me. If there was some tweaking to do with my Windows and softwares I would be happy to try out, but physical parts are another story. So, I'm frustrated since I would use checkerboard mainly, since page flipping is not the way to go like you said, and having a red message at all times just ruins the 3D experience.
Thank you so much for your knowledge and patience. I'm very gratefull to you, sorry about more questions. I was going to try that, but the red message modding tutorial is just to much information for me, coudn't caught up with that. Sorry for being stupid... lol

What I meant was that if you want a software only solution, you would get TriDef which has checkerboard for only ten bucks more. If $10 is an issue, get checkerboard iZ3D for the same price as crippled 3DTV Play.

roller11 and Nobsi, especially Nobsi.

What do you mean, Nvidia will give us back checkerboard??? We never had checkerboard through Nvidia drivers I think
I mostly play games in 3d with my Alienware 1080p 23" display and watch 3D movies in my Sammy 63" 3D Plasma.
I don't think 1080p 60hz checkerboard format offers better quality than 720p 60hz frame packing,
you're comparing checkerboard on a 63" plasma vs 1080P framepacking on a teeny tiny little monitor screen. Of course the tiny screen is going to look better visually because it has higher pixel density (pixels count per degree of FOV).
I don't know what you guys mean by checkerboard option is greyd out by factory standards, how do I enable it without having to rename the HDMI/DVI 1 input as PC???
You can't, you must rename it "DVI PC". That's the only way to get the checkerboard option.

you can get rid of the red message. wikipedia "555 timer" and refer to astable mode schematic. Here are the RC values I used, they work: R1/R2/C = 560/10K/1 micro farad. Be sure to run signal/5V/gnd to tip/ring/sleeve on your 3/32" plug into the emitter.
I also read here that this page flipping 3D mode gives you full resolution per eye, is this really 1080p 60hz per eye???

So, I'm interested about this page flipping 3D mode, but I also read here that it's not very good for shooter games, why is that??
sluggish performance and severe mouse lag of 30 frames per eye.
since the TV is working with the built in receievr and it's own glasses, why cover the 3D Vision receiver if using checkerboard or page flipping 3D mode with rollermod.inf???
very good question.

Yes. Try the attached file to restore 3DTV Play, reboot required.

I'm not comparing the 3D quality in a 3DTV 63" with my 23" display, cause like you said, the 3D in my 23" Alienware display looks far better than 3DTV, It's likle said, the smaller the screen the more pixels density you get, so 3D quality is also sharper.
It's funny though that movies look way better in a 63" Plasma than in my 23" display in terms of 3D quality. It's overall way better, but games are a different story. Go figure???

If there was some tweaking to do with my Windows and softwares I would be happy to try out, but physical parts are another story. So, I'm frustrated since I would use checkerboard mainly, since page flipping is not the way to go like you said, and having a red message at all times just ruins the 3D experience.
