Hi All

Im just trying to catch up on this thread.

Can anyone who is having flickering respond to these questions:

Is your Emitter plugged into a hub, keyboard, or something else besides the motherboard?

Are you doing heavy transfers on USB when the emitter is playing (e.g. copying items)?

Are you using the USB cable that came with 3D Vision?

Hi Andrew,

Is your Emitter plugged into a hub, keyboard, or something else besides the motherboard? NO & Yes, try both nothing changed

Are you doing heavy transfers on USB when the emitter is playing (e.g. copying items)? NO, just keyboard and mouse

Are you using the USB cable that came with 3D Vision? Of course! ;) But i doesn't improve or worsen with other cables.
It's just flickering under heavy GPU load. :) Wish you all the best @ NG and nVIDIA.

Hi *,

I've tried some other apps to see, if those flickering artifacts can be reproduced on your systems. Installing DirectX SDK August 2009 is a good alternative to have the same application base and to show that the flickering effect is - contrary to my first post - not really depended on GPU load... :(

DirectX SDK August 2009:

SoftParticles Sample: Flickering NONE - independent from fps rate.

DeferredParticles Sample: No flickering with low fps, moderate flickering with fps around 55-60

DepthOfField10.1 Sample: Flickering ALWAYS but more left/right eye out of sync and wobbling than drop of shut glass (i.e. the shuttering seems to be slightly out of sync to monitor's refresh rate: let's assume at 130Hz than 120Hz and the shutter is switching eye sides each second. looks like when you make a video from a crt monitor with a video-cam which have almost the same frequency but only almost and a dark bar is scrolling over the video.)
[\list]
nVIDIA Demo:
Medusa 3D Demo: Heavy flickering (failed shuttering) in all scene with larger overview, no flickering in Medusa closeup (when see appears at the temple's gate), Map close up

These seems to proof my suggestions false since in the SoftParticles and DeffererParticles examples we have heavy GPU load but no flickering at a low fps rate...
But I installed a USB sniffer and when no flickering occurs you get a 8ms or 15ms repeating signal pattern. In the examples where flickering occurs these patterns are disturbed and delayed by some ten to hundered milliseconds... Still no explanation where a USB failure or driver failure...

On the other hand there are so many examples with low fps (which means heavy GPU load) where no flickering occurs that I still can not guess where the delay stems from.

@Andrew: would be nice, if you can report whether you can reproduce some of the effects.

cheers
Geoffrey

I'm trying same thing than you :

    - SoftParticles Sample: No Flickering
    - DeferredParticles Sample: No Flickering
    - DepthOfField10.1 : No flickering
    - Medusa 3D Demo: No flickering

But I got lot off flickering under game L4D, L4D2, Dirt, Dirt2, Grid ...

    I'm gonna be crazy

I'm now trying nvidia demo :
    No flickering :
    - Sparkles
    - SoftShadows
    - PerlinFire
    - PercentageCloserSoftShadows
    - MetaBalls
    - GPUBlendShapes
    - DX10FeatureDemo
    - Denoising
    - CSAATutorial
    - ScreenSpaceAO

    I'll continue later

Hello, i got the same problem in call of duty 6 mw2. the right part of the glass is flickering the whole time. In other games i got max. 1-2flickerings per hour(batman aa). I try another usb slot but it dosnt work.

    my system is a e6600@3.4ghz with 4 gb ddr2 and a 275gtx(default oced).

Just got my 3D kit and 2233RZ monitor and wanted to add to this post.

win 7 ult 64. 8GB ram, 9800GX2. (can't remember prc speed as I am at work)

I get heavy flickering in farcry 1 unless I look directly at the ground.
Pretty bad flickering in all games (eg GTA4, The Saboteur + others that were rated as excellent) except Assassin's Creed.
For some reason assassin's Creed is perfect, beautiful even.
Almost like it is teasing me, as I have just finished playing it before getting kit :(

1/. Pyramid is connected to mainboard, not through hub.
2/. No transfers going on. (Only mouse and keyboard connected to usb)
3/. Yep, using cable that came with kit.

+Dark room. (have wooden shutters on all windows) and lights off.

In farcry I can also confirm that if I break the signal to the glasses with my finger, the flickering dissappears immediately.
So it seems that it is the pyramid send out of sync data.

    Hi Guys,
Thought I would post my experiance as I received my Samsung 2233 and 3d glasses yesterday and gave the setup a darn good run.

    OK, I'm getting the flickering.

Heres the games Ive tried with my 3d glasses and the end result:

    L4D 1&2 haven't noticed a flicker as of yet
Batman AA: Very Good but with a flicker every 30 secs or so.
Dragon Age:Very Good but with a flicker every 30 secs or so.
    Fallout 3: Terrible....flickers like a strobe constantly.

    Heres the thing.
I've tested the Nvidia test (on the NVidia control panel) not a SINGLE solitary flicker. It works flawless!!
I've tested the Nvidia photo preview pack (different game pictures) not a SINGLE solitary flicker. It works flawless!!

Like everyone else, I've tested the pyramid in the motherboard and a Hub. The Hub produced hurrendous flickering. Connected to the m/b the results are above. Theres nothing blocking the signal.
I've turned off lights, moved equipment etc.....to no avail.

Because these glasses work flawless with the Nvidia tests and different results in games, I'm left to believe that this IS NOT a hardware fault but one of software, which hopefully will allow Nvidia to get a fix out ASAP, as the flickering is giving me a headache.

Like GemX I was thinking this could be GPU load, but I'm not convinced as Batman AA uses a damn fine amount of GPU power which I would expect to produce constant flicker, but only every 30 secs or so.

If I can be of any futher use, please post a reply.

Oh by the way, this may be of some use to you.....
I noticed that when I was getting the flicker in batman, the 3d would turn off after a while. Pressing the glasses did nothing! I was getting the two seperate images on screen. Pressing the pyramid button (that was green!) turned the 3d effect back on!

I think like GemX and others on here that this is certainly a sync issue.

    Sorry for any spelling mistakes.

    Dave

    My setup may help :P

OK can get alittle futher with this.
I've discovered that when looking close at something like a wall or a floor the flashing stops. Only when your looking at distance does the flashing occur..............

My flickering/flashing is 'solved' by switching off multi-gpu mode for my 9800GX2.

that of course leaves me running on a .. what? 9600? with 512Mb?
Farcry then works fine, but anything else struggles now due to card losing one of its testicles.

Thank you! I can indeed confirm that turning off Multi GPU for my 295 did indeed stop the flickering and stop my setup from switching off 3d effect at random points throughout games.

P.S Hope Nvidia fix this problem asap as ive lost alot of performance. Has this always been the case? or is it the latest drivers thats causing these issues?

ive only got flickering with modern warfare 2! the werid thing is that single player is unplayable because of the flicker however it doesnt flicker that often when im in multiplayer mode (it also does from time to time).

I can also confirm that I have the flickering/flashing problem and while I can't confirm through extensive testing which games and conditions that flickering occurs I can add one non-game related condition. Watching one of the 3D movie demos in the Nvidia site caused bad flickering for me.

I have my IR emitter plugged into the mobo but I don't have original cables.

    Like everyone else:

1/. Pyramid is connected to mainboard, not through hub.
2/. No transfers going on. (Only mouse and keyboard connected to usb)
3/. Yep, using cable that came with kit.

But I'm finding that it's game specific. I just got my glasses today, but a 20 minute run of HL2:e2 runs flawless, where as no matter what I try I get a flicker in HoMM5. Here's something interesting, in HoMM5 when I switched from overworld map to underground map, the glasses shut off entirely! and only pressing ctrl T twice (once to turn off 3d, once to turn it back on) turned my glasses back on. The effect is like being drunk, it flashes (I'm guessing from both shutters being open and letting in an influx of light) then over the course of a second the ghosted image merges/resyncs to what it should be. This happens, about every 40-60 seconds to varying degrees.

    Edit:

After spending some time, the only game I tried that didn't flicker was half life ep2.

Heroes of might and magic 5 flickers every 30-40 seconds, as does modern warefare 2. Elvan Legacy flickers now and then, the witcher flickers constantly, spore flickers when orbiting a planet. Dragon age does as well.

I can only assume at this point that something is defective, whether its the monitor the glasses or the transmitter or even the driver. I'll contact support and see what they have to say. Has anyone else contacted their support and gotten any type of answer? Maybe a bad batch of transmitters??

    I have tried:
adjusting usb power settings to performance
removing 'nHancer' (tool i used to fix lighting issue in the witcher)
    updating the drivers
playing with lights on / off
    trying 110 and 100hz
turning sli off and only using 1 card
    lowering graphics settings
trying different ir transmitter settings in the set up program

My system spec is dual 9800gt, plugged into the usb2 port of the motherboard with a quadcore 2.5,
