I am absolutely DISGUSTED with Nvidia for the way they treat their paying customers. I have been using my Nvidia 3D vision2 kit for years now. I have an Oculus Rift but I don't use it because it is rubbish & it gives me motion sickness. The Nvidia 3D vision2 Kit is MUCH BETTER than VR, because it doesn't give you motion sickness & you get the full resolution of your monitor too. I cannot believe that Nvidia has decided to discontinue support for 3D vision, but where I draw the line is when they not only remove support but actively intervene to prevent people who already own an Nvidia 3D vision2 kit complete with drivers installed & the kit up & running from ever being able to use it again, because that is not simply "discontinued support" that is VANDALISM. You can't do that. I will have no choice but to sue Nvidia for rendering my 3D vision2 kit useless. Don't they realise that the only thing lacking is head tracking, if they did 3D vision3 kit with head-tracking included they could make a new type of VR that uses the 2D monitor as a window into a 3D world so that the user is not totally submerged in VR. Nobody wants to be totally submerged.

It's been said by many posters, multiple times before, but this is the best gaming tech in Nvidia's portfolio. It is indeed absurd that they are abandoning it.

I don't see how it's absurd. They put the tech out there, promoted it so that the gaming media were talking about it quite a bit and even computer hardware advertisers were pushing it, but the public just shrugged. They kept some development up for a few years just in case another Avatar came out and everybody suddenly got interested in 3D again but there's only so much good money that can be sent chasing after bad.
If you want to blame somebody, blame the public at large for not wanting what you want. NVIDIA gave us an excellent technology for a solid decade. Actually, even more than that if you count Discover mode. Now a new technology has shown up that's pretty clearly going to be superior.
If you don't like being totally in the game, that's really not a problem. Augmented Reality can do the same thing without blocking out the world.
You can even put in a virtual monitor. Then you can put your virtual monitor anywhere. Any size. Want it curved? OK, it's curved now. Hey, this is a space game where I'm as likely to get attacked from above as well as behind! OK, now your monitor is in the 5:4 ratio. Want some help with your game? Turn your head to the right, there's a help document. Walk through is behind you. YouTube LetsPlay above you. Friend chat off to the left.
Your 3D would actually be an image per eye, too. Not like 3D Vision where your single monitor shows an image for your left eye while your right is covered, then swaps them... mostly... with just a little ghosting from the last image... hopefully.
The resolution isn't up to snuff right now and the headsets are crazy bulky. I can barely get my Oculus on over my glasses. But a new generation is already starting to show up with much higher resolution.
P.S. Yes, you can get motion sick with 3D Vision. Portal 2 did it to me. I think it's because the field of view was too high. Things to the side were close to me but, when I turned, they got quite a bit further away. It got really disorienting after a while.

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.
vr isn´t superiour. it´s different. it might be in the future more adopted by people but it doesnt make it superiour. there is still things vr can´t do better no matter the visual fidelity of vr units. not everybody wan´ts to play their game in a vr enviroment. its cumbersome and not that comfortable. maby when vr is just something you turn on from your brain. and to be honest im not shure many people even want that.

Well VR does offer "Presence", which is a huge step up immersion wise.
But 3D Vision is a huge step up immersion wise from 2D gaming. I still can't fathom Nvidia abandoning the best tech in their portfolio excluding VR (which is still maturing). They complement each other. I've wondered if it isn't the result of belt tightening due to recent setbacks with Turing GPU sales, Tesla moving to their own self driving chip and other bottom line adjustments.

Nobody ever cared for 3D Vision but us few out of the PC Gaming population..
Can’t be mad at Nvidia the tech just didn’t catch the masses.
VR on the other hand is just has a stronger much more vast platform and influence.
You can hate VR all you want...it will grow in the next decade over our outdated 3d glasses/monitor tech.
3D Vision had its time and just didn’t do as well to the masses.
Just glad I was able to experience such technology..for me 3D will live on through VR
With ingame presence and scale immersion.
Its still a great time to be alive for PC Gamers we’ve come so far from 2D.

Comeon guys, are you joking?
Please remember one of the main reasons why 3d didn't catch was glasses. Yes, even those light passive glasses were a problem.
You want to tell me that having a radiator strapped to your face will have betterresults?
VR got a lot of attention because .. you know wirtual reality, world. I can bet more than 50% of the headsets stay on the selfs and maybe are occasionaly use for ... Porn maybe.
At its current state this technology has much more drawbacks that Stereo 3D ever had and no one is impproving it. Every company wants to catch the hype train with half finished products. Another reason stereo 3D died was poor implementation for HW and content.

Yeah people abandoned 3d, mostly they were just ignorant and Lazy.
I don’t care, Everyone can do what ever they want.
Personally NOW just now i think 3d is great, VR could be great, and there is one different,
Now and sometime later. Offrcourse we can have best of both worlds if you willing put in the money.

I had all kind of headsets from oculus to Vive to ps4 headset.
Currently, this technology is in its infancy.
Hands down, I prefer 3D vision.
I have 2 oleds (55 and 65), uhd40 projector, Asus 8Qr and avegant glyph and no way
I’m gonna go VR in the near future.

No 3D didn't catch because
1. Nvidia did a shit job at promoting it
2. The 3D Vision Displays were and are still $700+ (most with no built in emitter extra $150)
3. Huge performance hog that still isn't optimized for multi core cpus(and well never will be now)
4. Can be glitchy and buggy as hell with certain titles
5. Game devs just stopped giving a damn about it(Metro Exodus??..Shadow Warrior 2??)
No point in even comparing the two anymore...3D Vision is extinct and will be totally put to sleep euthanized forever when Windows 10 update decides to force us to upgrade drivers.
Nvidia already stripped the components out with 430 driver
3D Vision will never be open source..get over it
Nvidia has pretty much said thanks for buying and enjoying our expensive hardware...but now the friendship is over and we are going home and taking our software driver with us..lmao
So your only options for 3D will be
1. radiator around your face VR
2. dicking around with this crappy hacked tridef software
3. waiting on certain folks here to bring a certain pipe dream into reality
So yea ill take raditor around my face 3d before I ever go back to these stone age things
