Viewsonic 7820HD projector being detected as CRT
I have an issue that I think I know what the cause is, I just don't know how to fix it. I have 2 projectors, 1 is a 3D ready projector and no issues there. My HD projector is now detected as a CRT monitor and is now 3D vision capable, which I had to do an EDID hack to get into that state before. I reversed that long ago, but now on both of my computers, that projector is recognized as a 1280*1024 crt. I'm thinking it has something to do with Nvidia unlocking 3D play? I use that projector for Tridef @ 1920*1080 and native SBS games. Does anyone know the last driver version that did not have 3D play unlocked or a way I can go back to the proper Viewsonic pjd 7820hd inf?

The first driver which included 3DTV Play for free was included in the drivers released in Dec 2018 or thereabout. I'm unsure of the version. 418.xx surely would have it, I'd think. The first post on it https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1091094/3d-vision/3dtv-play/post/5949000/#5949000 3DTV Play only works via a HDMI connection, so if you use VGA, it will not work. Display Port to HDMI adapter does not work for 3DTV Play AFAIK, at least it does not for me, using the one from Club 3D. Earlier drivers (prior to it being added for free) require that you have a stand alone license or a Nvidia emitter plugged in that will act as a product key/replacement for a license. The Nvidia emitter is turned off and is non functional with 3DTV Play displays. In other words, Nvidia's glasses can not be used with a 3DTV Play display, the manufacturer glasses must be used or compatible 3rd party glasses. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ An alternative for using earlier drivers without a license or Nvidia emitter is this https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1099287/3d-vision/3dtv-play-24hz-workaround-verified-working/post/6014327/#6014327

NVCP will tell you what display it is detecting. If wrong, device manager, uninstall driver

Thanks, yea I tried to uninstall it from the device manager in both cases to just gets re detected as a crt and 3D ready. The same effect that the EDID hack had, except neither one of these windows installations have had an EDID hack. I'm starting to think it's not related to NV play because I can plug into DVI port or HDMI port and I need to have the 3D pyramid connected to not get just the discover option. I've seen a few other cases in the MTBS forum. Still going to try to go back before last December to see. So far I tried as old as the February driver with no luck. Cool I got an extra 3D projector for NVidia , but I already have a 3D vision projector and would like to get that detected correctly. Edit: Detected as generic crt in Device manager. As "Nvidia LCD_VGA" in Nvidia control panel.

You do not have anything in the chain do you? Switcher? Splitter? Repeater? AVR? etc... It's sounds like it might be a bad HDMI cable, the id pin must be damaged. It is #19 https://www.electronics-notes.com/articles/audio-video/hdmi/hdmi-pinouts-connections.php Some people use to remove this or put a sliver of tape over it, so that they could enable crt mode :P You can also try Monitor Asset Manager EnTech Taiwan Read the correct real time EDID, select create inf, use the newly created inf to override the incorrect detection

It use to work for several years @ 1920*1080 it's native res, rather it was connected HDMI or VGA. It was not Nvidia 3D vision ready and only had the discover option. I tried all my cables same results. Playing with it some today, it seems to be a better 3D vision projector than the other. Tridef and 3D vision are both working well so I guess I'll just get use to it @ a lower resolution for now Thanks

Meh.. You can try this then, if monifo is too complicated Remove the .jpg from the end, so it's an inf file once again This is for my Acer 1080P 1.4 PJ, it works fine on W7 372.90 with 3DTV Play 1080P@24 in the NVCP wizard

Thanks, I'll give that and moninfo a try when I get everything backed up on that older PC.
