Hmm. It sounds like a problem with release. Yeah that sounds right. To disable red text click either f11 or f10 I forget which also here is a different release d3d9.dll tell me if that works instead. That release was just released so maybe it had issues.

After a lot of testing for me this solution offered the best results:
- graphic settings: everything maximized besides from FXAA (off) and shadows (low)
- Using the attached shader overrides
- Using the DX9Settings.ini from Helix's post
- Using the debug dll (not the release dll!)from Helix
- AFTER the game has loaded deactivate the pixel shader F585A3A1 (in my case always index # 319) and FB330F3E (in my case always index # 315). This removes the wrong rendered dynamic shadows for the flashlight, headlights and street lights. Disabling these shaders by override removes the light cones completely but disabling them after the game has loaded keeps them visible as pale rectangular spots. So You still get the necessary informations about dark and light for the gameplay. The borders of the light cone is still a little bit irritating but I learned to ignore it. FB330F3E also replaces the central spot of the flashlight cone making it harder to recognize. As this spot helps aiming I deactivated FB330F3E only when it was necessary (inside buildings or driving a car with headlights).
This solution offers acceptable S3D using 100% depth for scenarios in the forest during night-time or within dark buildings - which makes about 80% of the gameplay. The sky is still at wrong depth but I didn't want to remove it. Unfortunately I couldn't find a shader for moon or sun.

First off use try the debug https://s3.amazonaws.com/HelixMods/*Mainfiles/Debug.zip
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE/KNOWN ISSUES
INSTALLATION
All fixes require the fix and if not included with fix the [WWW]"RELEASE" file aka [WWW]DXD9.DLL and the games [WWW]"FIX" aka shaderoverride folder.
Folder layout should look like this:
(video games .exe folder)/[WWW]d3d9.dll
(video games .exe folder)/shaderoverride/
For example, to install fix for Assasin's Creed Brotherhood you sould put d3d9.dll from "Release.zip" into game folder when "ACBSP.exe" located.
After that download and extract "Assasin's Creed Brotherhood.zip" in the same folder, so you should have "d3d9.dll" and "ShadersOverride" in "Assasin's Creed Brotherhood" folder.
STEAM GAMES
Certain games WILL NOT work UNLESS you follow these instructions
Go into (Steam) settings->in-game-> disable steam community in game
ORIGIN GAMES
This fix WILL NOT work with Origin Games UNLESS you follow these instructions
Log into Origin client
settings->in game-> Uncheck the box that says enable Origin in Game.
AFTERBURNER
This will cause some games to crash at opening of game. If you have it enabled please disable it.
STILL NOT WORKING?
Try one of the [WWW]older versions of the Helix mod [WWW]here
Then try.
- download [WWW]Debug Log and extract it to the game folder;
- run the game (load level if you can) and exit;
- locate LOG.txt in the game folder and attach it to your message on this thread [WWW]http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=222386

So many posts and no-one actually answered my question...
Well, I guess, never mind. I got bored with this game anyway - the main story is interesting but pointing the flash-light at the "axemen" and shooting them gets really boring after a while.
Hence, I wonder why is that so, that game developers don't create games that are actually pleasant to play - I mean REALLY pleasant.
I explain what I mean in a new thread, so if you want to take part in the discussion here's a link:

For my S3D check I used a trainer to shorten the fights and rush through the game. When I will play the game "serioulsy" I think I will also use this trainer and concentrate on story, atmosphere and the landscape that looks great in S3D.

Steam gave me $30 of credit in my Steam wallet for this game. At this point I will either wait until it gets dirt cheap and the 3D is actually working or just borrow my friend's 360 copy to play it.

I haven't played the game due to the s-3d fiasco but it is pretty hard to innovate and at the same time appeal to all audiences. So far as I am aware of what the game entails, it is not that much about the action on its own, as it is about the action combined with interesting set-piece moments and a story to back it up. There are quite a few examples, where repetitive action is mixed with set piece moments to achieve a great experience - the Uncharted series being at the top of my list. Newer games are a new breed of animal, suited more towards the dumber - sit-play-finish-buy crowd and no offence is intended, because nowadays we don't have the time to commit to a game, that we used to have when gaming was exclusive towards geeks. With a wider crowd there are more limitations, not all games can be like skyrim, since they can't maintain such a world. Most have a clear start, middle and end (speaking about single player) and the easier the consumer moves through these stages, the better, because he can now move on to the next game.
So there you have it, games are easier, less exploratory and more fast-paced to deal with the possible interest loss and to sell more games down the road. Just look at how many AC, COD and other game series have emerged...why make a 50 hour game with replayability, when you can make a 5 hour game with multiplayer and the just release another one a year later.

I have found a nice review on Metacritics which sums up Alan Wake quite well, but I'm not sure if what he says is true:
[quote]This game is waste of great potential, which was killed few years ago, when Remedy suddenly shifted to console market from PC, this cause a lot of troubles, forced them to waste to many time to port code to Xbox and optimize (downgrade graphics, physics, etc) it for crappy hardware, and because of this they have too little time to work game content itself, which forced them to cut half of game which wasn't well-polished. From a great open world survival-horror-adventure, game squeezed to boring linear light-em-shoot-em-up, with many game design flaws, including total lack of melee combat which existed in almost every survival horror since the old days, because ammo is always limited in this genre and whenever you out of ammo you should fight your way with fists, pipes, axes, and everything... or you could just run away, but in Alan Wake you can not do either. Seriously, Alan cant even run like normal man, his run ability somewhere close to fat grandpa at the edge of heart attack - what was Remedy designers thinking when they limited run distance to about 10 meters? Dodging is barely works and sometime when you just want to run, Alan suddenly starts from dodge.[/quote]

Update 2 is coming out Friday and i'd like to remind everybody interested in Alan Wake about this quote from Remedy concerning the next patch after patch 2:
[quote]
[b]A Future Update[/b]
On our radar, but hasn't been evaluated how much work these are, and we continue to prioritize based on feedback.[list][*]Add a free camera for those who want to explore the world[*]Improve Stereoscopic 3D[*]Longer grass draw distance option[*]"Low Performance Mode" improvements[/list][/quote]
I highly recommend making your own account and posting your wishes for proper 3D support in the coming days. They've already said if fixing it becomes a hassle they may just remove the bit about 3D support off their adds, which they've already done for Steam. So if your interested in AW in 3D, let em know.

One thing I noticed was when I played Alan Wake with 3D Vision disabled, SLI wasn't working in the game (1st gpu had around 90+ usage the whole time while the second had barely any). And then I exited the game and enabled 3D Vision from the nVidia control panel and launched the game again. This time SLI was being fully used (both gpu's had 90+ usage the whole time). Don't know if this helps anything with trying to get 3D working properly, but I just wanted to report this if someone might find it useful. When I have time I'll try to see if the game runs differently in 3D with SLI disabled (when SLI is enabled, all the reported problems with 3D are present).

Hmm. It sounds like a problem with release. Yeah that sounds right. To disable red text click either f11 or f10 I forget which also here is a different release d3d9.dll tell me if that works instead. That release was just released so maybe it had issues.

Can someone point me in the right direction.
I tried disabling the problematic shader in two ways: 1st with de folder atached by someone here
2nd generated a dump and selected the problematic shaders
In both cases after loading the creen flickers one time and the image stays locked on loading screen. Tried using different D3D9.dll
I found out that by deleting all the pixel shaders from override the game works but the image is kinda messed up( a lot of plack bars and spots)
What could be the problem? Display driver? Display settings?
I am using the beta 290.53

I hope that there will be an update from the developers but with this workaround Alan Wake is at least playable with S3D. It is a little bit more difficult as the light spots are less obvious and the enemies harder to detect (had to remove the "darkness aura" as it caused halos). But You should be able to play it without a trainer as I did to be able to rush through the game to find S3D issues

What could be the problem? Display driver? Display settings?
I am using the beta 290.53

Try one of the [WWW]older versions of the Helix mod [WWW]here
Then try.
- download [WWW]Debug Log and extract it to the game folder;
- run the game (load level if you can) and exit;
- locate LOG.txt in the game folder and attach it to your message on this thread [WWW]http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=222386

I highly recommend making your own account and posting your wishes for proper 3D support in the coming days. They've already said if fixing it becomes a hassle they may just remove the bit about 3D support off their adds, which they've already done for Steam. So if your interested in AW in 3D, let em know.
