Q1 summary. 3D Vision Games released
So here we go - AA+ games released:

Two Worlds 2
Dead Space 2
Dragon Age 2
Shogun 2 Total War
Crysis 2
Assasin Creed: Brotherhood
Rift
Bulletstorm

...and no visible support from nVidia 3d vision. Some companies would fire people for missing support for such a product cluster, whether marketing software or toothbrush. I hope Andrew sends on the seniment to powers that be.

This is also a warning to people deciding which technologigy they should be buying. nVidia started awesome but stalled. Evaluate carefully, you have AMD tech too.

sorry Bulletsorm got support via beta drivers

Hi

First off let me state that we have been working on drivers to support most if not all of these games. Sometimes driver release schedules are delayed which causes some problems and we dont get our driver out when we need to in order to support these games.

That being said, let me comment on each game.

Two Worlds 2 - Profile still being worked on.
Dead Space 2 - Profile will be available in the next major driver release.
Dragon Age 2 - Profile will be available in the next major driver release.
Shogun 2 Total War - Profile will be available in the next major driver release.
Crysis 2 - No profile is needed, it has built in support
Assasin Creed: Brotherhood - Profile still being worked on.
Rift - Profile will be available in the next major driver release.
Bulletstorm - Already in 267.24.

thank you Andrew for the feedback! your work is much appreciated.

one question, will that major driver be released next month?

Well, you see, that's the problem. A lot of people aren't going to be worried because they already finished the game in question! I hope NVIDIA looks into some method of getting these profiles out the door faster instead of waiting for a full driver release. With all the products that are wrapped up into every release now (3D Vision, Surround, SLI, CUDA, ...), the chances of one part or another having a show-stopping glich are bound to increase. That translates into longer release schedules. That translates into more people finishing/rage-quitting more games before the profiles appear.

I second this, I bought dead space 2 as soon as it was realeased and was dissappointed with the 3D and had to play without 3D enabled. I've completed the game now already and wont be playing it again for a while due to alot of games I like been realeased this month and next.

To Andrew don't you guys get access to beta's or are able to get the games before release so you can work your magic with them?

Something needs to change cant be waiting 2 months or more for 3d profiles to be released it is kida a kick in the balls with the cost of the glasses and having to buy specific monitors and such!

I sort of get the feeling that 3Dvision is just a very small part of Nvidia and you only have a very small team working on it, Is this the case?

thanks for the support andrew! if you arent going to release profiles with the game, at least more frequent updates like this would help a lot while waiting for the release, and if you could tell if the game is going to be excellent, good etc some of us would simply play the game or wait for the profile

Good thread in identifying major titles that still need 3D Vision support/profiles, but what's with that jab? lol. Have you evauluated carefully? Because from everything I've read, you have the same options on GeForce hardware as you do with AMD tech, but still limited to the support and shortcomings of iZ3D and DDD.

Bloody didn't seem to be doing cartwheels over AMD 3D tech, not sure anyone else would be either. And to be fair, most of the listed problems also exist on GeForce hardware using those solutions. http://3dvision-blog.com/amd-hd3d-technology-what-you-shouldve-know-from-the-start/

I'd also like to see more frequent updates but my solution would require a more transparent profiling system for 3D Vision similar to the Nvidia Profiles.txt settings in Manage 3D Settings, like SLI and AA compatibility bits. Then the end-user could update their profiles on their own or even use "official" patches without an entirely new driver release similar to EVGA SLI enhancements or Nvidia SLI patches.

Also guys, there was one major change in 3D Vision update frequency when they removed the requirement to re-install the 3D USB driver each time you updated your GeForce drivers and put the 3D Vision profile/drivers into the main GeForce release. Theoretically that meant we would get 3D Vision updates as fast as they updated the GeForce driver without having to wait for a specific 3D Vision CD update (or go through the steps of reinstalling an older USB driver), but given how slow the GeForce driver updates have been coming as of late, we've ended up with a list of unprofiled games like the ones in the OP.

IZ3D now has pretty much the same access to the AMD hardware that Nvidia does with theirs. I'm a strong proponent of IZ3D's drivers, but they are a work in progress and they need time. This stuff doesn't happen overnight. They do have a strong community however, and we are doing what we can.

Game profiles became late, too late. Also a game profile do not ensure the game will be well supported, only that the profile will be included in the next driver, and still coud remain big problems with stereo 3d compatibility.

More Nvidia specific information about what games are included in the next release drivers and when exactly the drivers will be out is fundamental, when drivers releases are so long in time and no solution between then for specific games. People need to know if it worth to wait to play a game (I have still not played Dead Space 2).

Nvidia must change things, the support run like a turtle, and it is far away to be enough.

I second that you need to get Profiles out on Release day if not sooner. I've seen some title like that and others not. I'm not gonna wait two months to buy a game and sit on it till a profile is ready. I guess it's best I get rid of my nvidia 3d gear and not have to worry at all. You need to start releasing Just modules for your Game specific 3d updates. That way they can be released ahead of a major driver release. I think it is only common sense.

on another note: How much would it kill Nvidia to also include a SBS out put method? Give us options.

What nVidia/ATI and whoever else pushing stereoscopic 3D need to do is figure out a way to motivate dev's into designing games to support Stereo 3D, rather than trying to play catchup patching the drivers after games ship.
Support is always going to be late coming if they have to patch the driver to support a game.
Not to mention the CPU overhead they are inherently adding into the driver to do this sort of thing.

I'm not sure what that motivation is outside of joint advertising etc (read money), because I can assure you when I worked on games stereo 3D would have been the last thing on my mind and first thing on the cut list unless support was a requirement up front. And I'm not sure how much more I'd fight for it over other features today when I game almost exclusively in 3D, I'm just not going to compromise the visual quality for all the none stereoscopic gamers in order to have a better stereo experience.

Even when games get 90% of the way there (WoW's DX9 renderer) there never seems to be enough follow through or care to clean up what are relatively easy things. The WoW Dx9 renderer has a 3d mouse cursor, and yet they can't be bothered to fix the sky being at screen depth. And going forwards things get worse the replacement DX11 renderer has all the same issues, ignores the depth field on UI elements and doesn't provide a 3D cursor.

I suspect part of it is how devs play games during development, I personally hardly ever play full screen during development, and I have no interest in putting glasses on when my average play time while implementing a feature is probably under 5 minutes.

Honestly I think we'll see improvements pushed back from in the console space, where half assed 3D implementations will get bounced by the platform owners. But that's not how it should be, the PC has been in this space for years and should be leading the push for stereo 3D implementations, including solving problems like what does a 3D UI look like?

I personally remain unsold on 3D movies, but I think the two places where stereo 3D adds real value are games and sports, and I think PC should be leading the way on the former.

That was more of a rant than I expected, I've been using 3D Vision for over a year and a lot of that time 3D Vision surround, and I'm getting disillusioned, seeing the potential but so very rarely seeing it met.

I also don't like that they release the profiles in conjunction with driver releases. This will most certainly stall the gaming community into not being able to enjoy the game when it's first released (I still have AC:B in wrapping paper).
