Here is a quick thing to test if you can: - Install drivers 347.88. (They don't have an official profile for GTAV) Don't worry about it. SLI will still work. - Switch the renderer to DX10 (not DX10.1 or DX11). - Run the test. Yesterday I was able to get to around 280 passes with this one (until I stopped the test). The only other difference from the test posted by bo3b was Surround resolution. I am keen on seeing if anyone else has success with this:) Cheers!

Just thought I'd chime in to say that while I haven't conducted any of these benchmarking tests I have been playing each night in 4-5 hour blocks. Haven't had a single CTD or 3d glitch. Running 350.12 driver with DHR's fix and all settings maxed except grass (high) and a few of the advanced settings. Running frame scaling mode at 1.5x and getting a smooth 35fps minimum. My only complaint would have to be the flickering in menus (I can live with it), mission markers all messed up and the ghosting which is obviously most apparent at night. The only thing that may make a difference for me is that I play online exclusively and haven't been through the story yet so perhaps the crashes are only happening on single player.
Here is the file of the benches. One more for the pile.
Very cool, thanks for that. This is interesting. You've got a success case, which means that if you use those settings to play, you should be able to play crash-free. Maybe if we collate some settings that succeed we can get a sense for what works best. Your results here are interesting, because they are slightly different than my success case. For example, I've never been able to run with texture=2 on any driver, any setting. And I really want to, because it's makes the biggest difference in fidelity. Key settings: Driver 350.12, SLI670, 1680x1050, vsync=off, Texture=2, Grass=2, DX11, Ped=0.3, Vehicle=0.3, PostFx=1

With those settings, using MP3 profile, it has been stable. Such a shame the recent patch from RS has messed up the hotspots! Grasses above normal don't work with the abovementioned profile/driver combination though! In fact, any setting or driver/profile combination where grasses has been set above normal and have worked, resulted in crashes for me. Perhaps PGB could update the first post with the two seemingly stable setting/profile/driver configs?

Well, super hard to say, like you'd expect. I tried running andysonofbob's settings, and I get a crash within 5 runs of the benchmark. Different driver though. Not sure 350.12 is better than my current 353.30, but could be. I was running stock profile, so it's possible MP3 profile matters too. If I set all the settings to their lowest possible settings, I get a run for 200 benchmarks. The setting I cannot touch is Texture, although andysonofbob has that set to 2, and ran stably. As near as I can tell, GTA5 leaks memory while you play. System memory, not VRAM. Assuming that is true, then it's only a matter of time before you crash. If you have 16Gb, probably that time is longer, although they could have a pointer bug that fails at 4G boundary (sort of looks like that). Assuming it is a memory leak, then the only thing we can do in the interim is to slow our leak. This seems to be possible via settings, so I'm currently running some tests to see which have the biggest impact. Or maybe settings that can be raised without leaking more than usual. Realistically, if it runs for 4 hours without crashing, I'm going to be happy enough. I'm not necessarily looking for perfection, just less suckage.

I don't really have alot to add other than a few observations. I have a single 970 and run on 350.12. Any later driver display a yellow R* logo in one eye and a blue R* logo during the loading screen. The most iterations I have managed is 159. This is with Textures set to 0. I crash within 15 iterations the moment this is set higher. I didn't notice any change in stability when altering the following: <Tessellation value="1/3"/> <ShadowQuality value="1/3"/> <ReflectionQuality value="0/3"/> <SSAO value="1/2"/> <AnisotropicFiltering value="0/16"/> <ParticleQuality value="0/2"/> <WaterQuality value="0/2"/> <GrassQuality value="0/3"/> <ShaderQuality value="0/2"/> <PostFX value="0/3"/> Switching the value below caused it to break in 9 iterations instead of 150: <Tessellation value="1/0"/> <SSAO value="1/0"/> <TextureQuality value="0/2"/> <Shader_SSA value="true/false"/> Advanced settings caused 3D settings to intermittently break although I am sure other settings have also caused this. Last week I upgraded to 16GB RAM from 8GB without any noticable difference, although this perhaps may be due to me switching off paging? I'll try some more tests, but every time I think I can see a pattern, something disproves it.

Switching the value below caused it to break in 9 iterations instead of 150:

@bo3b I'm using the game's default profile, with no broken text, with an old driver, in SLI, and yet I'm regularly racking up 200+ benchmark repetitions with grass set to 4. Ok, let's assume for the moment that it's not driver related at all. What else are we left with? It's horrible to contemplate, but the only way to truly eliminate what may appear at this stage to be a highly unlikely reason, is a fresh installation of Win 7 without updating it. Aside from the obvious difference that I've installed GTA V on Win 8, again without updating it since installation, what else do you suggest that it could be? Just to be absolutely clear, I'm certainly not expecting you to do that, because quite honestly you do more than enough as it is, but unfortunately that would be a natural starting point.

@pipkin: Awesome! Thanks for doing these tests. Every little bit helps, and getting more machine variants is really helpful. Those settings that crash extra are similar to what I see. Shader_SSA is interesting because I don't even know how it's set in the UI. The upgrade to 16G is also really interesting, because I was speculating that extra RAM wouldn't help here, as I don't seem to actually run out. I have it crash at 6.7G for example often. As near as I can tell, they have a bad 64 bit pointer math problem, so you will crash whenever your memory usage goes 4G above what you start the game with. (As seen in Task Manager->Performance). If this is true, the goal will be to minimize the memory leaking per run, with settings. @ToThePoint: Actually, I don't think we need to reinstall the OS, because I don't think we can solve this problem ourselves. It's fairly clearly a game bug, and R* needs to fix it. It wouldn't surprise me if it crashes in 2D as well, and I'll try that to see. So, the best we can do at present is to find a set of settings that crash least. I can't explain why you don't see broken text and why grass works in SLI. Do you have a matching set of 3D driver to driver? Your performance numbers make me suspicious that SLI is not actually working on your system, and with a single Titan you don't really notice. I also just tried running with SLI off, and that didn't make any difference. Crash in 9 runs. @Helifax, @ToThePoint: Can you guys share your settings.xml file? Given that you both also have pretty solid experiences, this would be another data point to see if that helps stability. You can share them here by renaming the file .jpg and attaching them to your post with paperclip icon _after_ you make a post. I'll commit to trying your settings files.

@bo3b It's not that I'm expecting you to actually reinstall your operating system. It's just that in order to match my experience it's a variable that can't be entirely discounted. I'm hoping it's anything else but that, believe me. I'm still getting occasional crashes with my own settings, so as you say, it's Rockstar's problem, not ours. It goes without saying that you're extremely well versed in un-installing and re-installing graphics drivers successfully in your sleep, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if you have actually done just that, given time constraints. So, if the driver version isn't as much of an issue as initially thought, I'm only speculating as to what else it could be. My 3D driver set appears to be in order, by the way. Using a very crude fraps counter visual test, on a single card, the frame rate hovers between 28-30. Using SLI, as my earlier results showed, it hovers between 40-42, so the SLI scaling was actually worse than I'd guessed from memory. Critically though, it was still enough to make GTA V perfectly playable for me. I get 60+ fps figures in all indoor areas for example.
