glasses flicker in games, but test apps OK? help needed, please, to solve flickering
I've just bought a pair of shutter 3d glasses, and I can't seem to stop them flickering in games, yet the Medical Test, and Test Application within the stereo settings work perfectly.

As soon as I try to run any game, though, the glasses flicker uncontrollably, making viewing impossible, and the game gets unplayable frame rates.

My graphics card is GeForce 6800 GT 256 Mb
CRT monitor iiyama 19”
Drivers: 91.28 and stereo drivers 91.28

I have also tried 78.01 driver and stereo driver.

As already stated, the medical test and test application work fine, so its just in the games that I'm having problems.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

I've been tinkering for about 3 hours now!!

Now, if it's not from the fastwrites (which are usually the problem), you can try at what ref rate and resolution your test app is running. Try it at the res you are playing games and then try reducing the ref rate to 60 and increasing it againg.
I've been having this problem with beta 91.28 (Stereo). If everything else fails, shut down the pc and try again, on the next start.

PS.
I've also tried 78.01 pair after uninstalling 91.28, but without a total shutdown they still don't work, so try shutting down the system.

Thanks for help so far.

Unfortunately, Fastwrites are not supported by my Mobo, so I can't try that.

I am running games at 1024 x 768 at 100 Hz, which is the same as I am running the test application within the stereo control panel within the graphics card settings.

Interestingly, whenever I return to the stereo settings, the slider ALWAYS defaults back to 640 x 480 (ie it does not appear to have saved the settings), even though I have followed the instructions about changing mode off and on to make sure the refresh and resolution gets set. (Can you see what I mean by this?)

Flicker still present in games.

When you say flickering, do you mean a flash of white?

Are the glasses flickering out of sync with your screen?

Do you see two images on your screen in stereo mode with your naked eye? Are they flickering oddly - or do they look uniform like the medical test image?

Regards,
Chopper

Tick the always use stereo ref. rate, otherwise the set ref rate won't work in test apps or games.
I see you have the ref rate ovewrites unlocked, if you like to test with lower ref rates in the test app, just disable it and tick the above mentioned option.

Yes, occasionally a flash of white, but mainly constant blinking

I would say yes, out of sync

I can see 2 images with naked eye, but they are stable

Also, when I toggle the glasses on, my frame rate in the game typically drops from 60 fps to less than 8 FPS

:magic:
Update - I've stopped the glasses flickering; it seems to have been a conflict with my onboard sound CMI XEAR AC 97. I uninstalled the sound driver, reinstalled the nvidia stereo driver, then reinstalled the sound driver, and the flickering stopped. The person who sold me the glasses came up with that one.

The problem now is the ridiculous drop in frame rate in Prey Demo from about 60FPS to 3 FPS or 4 FPS when the stereo mode is enabled. Can anyone help on this particular point, please?

see drivers settings for stereo refresh
see stereo profiles (settings for aplication controlled settings)
see resolution settings in tests and in games (the same?)
Problem can by in setting for too high resolution for games (high resolution = lover refresh of monitor = flicker)
Medical test and NV logo is in lover resolution and higher refresh=OK.
Sorry for my english, I hope mayby this ideas helps.
