I was thinking about buying The BAll from Steam and wanted to know if anyone has tried it with 3D vision?
I know it uses the Unreal engine so I'm not sure it will work very well.

Well nVidia 3d vision is directly supported within the Unreal Engine 3 but I've got no idea how the developers of this title have implemented it.
It looks an interesting game though. I looked at the trailers on Steam and I thought it looked quite good.

Obviously they didn't as the game suffers from the usual problems You get with games unsing the unreal engine (fog, bloom, blur and water effects that cause ghosting or haloes).
You can turn off some off these effects by changing the in game settings.
To remove the bloom effects You have to edit the file UDKEngine.ini in the folder ...\\Documents\My Games\The Ball\UDKGame\Config
Search and change the entries for:
MotionBlur=False
DepthOfField=False
AmbientOcclusion=False
Bloom=False
Distortion=False
LensFlares=False
AllowRadialBlur=False
(I don't know if all of these changes are necessary but it worked /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />)
To remove some of the disturbing fog effects there are two possibilities:
- Change in the graphic settings game details to minimum. As this also removes some decoration objcts from the scenery I would recommend to use medium settings and the other method to turn off disturbing fog effetcs:
- During the game You can open the console (using Tab), type Show fog, press enter and close the console (Tab). To turn on the fog again repeat these steps.
Now most of the disturbing effects are removed and I would rate the game as almost good. The most annoying effect is the halo caused by water or magma surfaces. In sections with a lot of water or magma You can reduce the depth settings to mimimum and increase convergence settings to gain some depth.
As the game itself provides interesting gameplay I really can recommend it. At least try the demo.

My original display name is 3d4dd - for some reason Nvidia changed it..?!
As the last update added some Portal 2 levels for The Ball I replayed the game. I also tried the experimental iZ3D driver (see http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=198856&st=0&gopid=1232256&). This allowed me to set game details to maximum. Then I changed the config settings mentioned above. Now I've got an excellent S3D gameplay: No need to use the Show fog command and no problems with water or magma surfaces any more!
