Nvidia 3D Vision W/120hz monitor Vs ZALMAN TRIMON ZM-M220W
After seen avatar I'm really exited about 3D, So I want to invest some money in 3D Gear
I see there is two product in the Market Nvidia 3D Vision W/120hz monitor and ZALMAN TRIMON ZM-M220W Monitor
anybody had tried booths ? Look like the nvidia setup is twice expensive not sure if I got all the money for that but don't one to invest in the zalman and then discover is rubbish any recommendation is really appreciated

If you want to see 3D Blu Ray, I highly recommend the Nvidia 3D Vision kit. However, I would wait on the monitor because a full 1080p 3D monitor will be out soon from Acer and one will also be out from Alienware as well. :)

If you want to see 3D Blu Ray, I highly recommend the Nvidia 3D Vision kit. However, I would wait on the monitor because a full 1080p 3D monitor will be out soon from Acer and one will also be out from Alienware as well. :)
The zalman is practically obsolete, just save up your money for teh 120hz monitor. We'll have plenty to choose from soon enough & probably quite a few 22"'ers on the 2nd hand market once they are released.

I own a Zalman montior and even if it is old, if you really want 3D it is still a good solution, especially for it's price !
Having tried the nvidia geforce 3D vision system, i can say that both have strengths and weaknesses the other system does not have. No system is perfect and no system outrageously beats the other.
Zalman offers a pure passive polarized system, so there is absolutely zero flicker no matter how sensitive your eyes are to flicker and what type or amount of lighting you have in the room, the glasses use circular polarization so you can also use the RealD 3D cinema glasses on it, it has much less ghosting than any currently available 120Hz LCD display, it is brighter in 3D than the nvidia system and the most important feature : it is compatible with every single 3D driver available (nvidia, iZ3D or tridef) so you aren't locked to nvidia products, you can game with an ATi system if you ever want to change GPU brands.
It's drawbacks is that it's an old monitor, it's an old 5ms class display, so in 2D it's like any entry grade LCD monitor. The Xpol technology divides the vertical resolution by 2 (in 3D mode only), it is not horrible but the resolution drop is still obvious, and it has a very narrow vertical viewing angle : you can sit anywhere laterally but you have to be at the right height to see in 3D (the fully tweakable foot helps a lot but once you set it you can't move much) so although it's very cheap and easy to use with multiple user it's not very multi-user friendly.
Keep in mind that what ever solution you choose (both nvidia 3D vision or Zalman), you will want to change it for the new stuff as soon as new hardware will be available (i can pretty much guarantee it) so don't expect this investment to secure your 3D gaming future for a long time or you'll regret it.

I've had the Zalman Trimon for over a year and I'm really happy with it. The 3D effect is good, ghosting is low and there is no flicker or anything like that. Viewing angles could be a whole lot better and so could the resolution, but its still pretty good overall. For the price you can't go wrong.

The good thing about the Zalman monitor is that it's compatible with every 3D driver out there, so if in some game you are not happy with the way the nvidia driver renders the game, you can try the other drivers from iZ3D and Tridef too.

While on my way trying to get these zalman drivers i got the iz3d driver but it wouldnt work because it couldnt detect a iz3d monitor, so i dont know how to use that.
I dont even know what tridef is yet. I'm going to start googling that.

For the IZ3D driver you have to do the complete or custom installation, then check interlaced. Then it will work for Zalman. The DDD TriDef Ignition driver is another option, but it is the worst of the three. Still it can handle some games, like Crysis, better than the other two drivers.

Don't suppose anyone knows if the TriDef drivers work with games using older versions of DirectX? I'd love to play Thief, Thief 2 and System Shock 2 in 3D, but since they are DirectX6 they don't work with 3D Vision or iZ3D.

Sorry about reviving old thread but I have just recieved a new Zlamn 215W 3D screen today. Within 10hours it will be set up in my room right next to Nvidia 3d vision.
I am expecting this zalman solution would be
worse in terms of ghosting
worse in 3D qualify
worse with slight color shifting
but
no or less headache which I get from 3D vision solution
no flickering (I get 1 or 2 flickering on Samsung every min or two, 5 flickering per min on Acer H5630)
Better with brightness
If you show some interest I will update this forum after testing my Zalman IZ3D solution.

1. Compatibility and Performance : 3D vision seems to do bit better. IZ3D fails on directX 10. Nvidia provides better FPS.
2. Ghosting : 3D vision + Samsung has permant ghosting on the top of the screen. if setting is right Zalman has less or nil ghosting. 3D vision + Ace H5630 has 0 ghosting.
3. Viewing angle : Zalman vertical viewing angle is narrow but it doesn't seem like a problem for me. 3D vision also works better when the emitter is in correct angle and distance.
4. Monitor : Zalman monitor is 1080p and as good as the Samsung monitor. Samsung has 120hz refresh that makes things smooth. Zalamn = 9, Samsung = 9.
5. 3D quality : 3D vision = perfect but dark. Zalman = nearly as good as 3D vision. 3D vision = 9 Zalman = 8
6. 2D quality : Zalman is 1080p. 2D quality is fantastic on both RGB and DVI connection.

How is the depth with the Zalman? Can it go as high as 3d vision?

How is the depth with the Zalman? Can it go as high as 3d vision?

I don't play 3D with very high depth but just tried with MW2 converge goes as far as it hurts my eyes. no ghosting. Avatar depth setting to 2 (maximum) practically no ghosting.

If you show some interest I will update this forum after testing my Zalman IZ3D solution.
I am expecting this zalman solution would be
worse in terms of ghosting
worse in 3D qualify
worse with slight color shifting
but
no or less headache which I get from 3D vision solution
no flickering (I get 1 or 2 flickering on Samsung every min or two, 5 flickering per min on Acer H5630)
Better with brightness

Few things I have found out lastnight
1. Compatibility and Performance : 3D vision seems to do bit better. IZ3D fails on directX 10. Nvidia provides better FPS.
2. Ghosting : 3D vision + Samsung has permant ghosting on the top of the screen. if setting is right Zalman has less or nil ghosting. 3D vision + Ace H5630 has 0 ghosting.
3. Viewing angle : Zalman vertical viewing angle is narrow but it doesn't seem like a problem for me. 3D vision also works better when the emitter is in correct angle and distance.
4. Monitor : Zalman monitor is 1080p and as good as the Samsung monitor. Samsung has 120hz refresh that makes things smooth. Zalamn = 9, Samsung = 9.
5. 3D quality : 3D vision = perfect but dark. Zalman = nearly as good as 3D vision. 3D vision = 9 Zalman = 8
6. 2D quality : Zalman is 1080p. 2D quality is fantastic on both RGB and DVI connection.

How is the depth with the Zalman? Can it go as high as 3d vision?

I don't play 3D with very high depth but just tried with MW2 converge goes as far as it hurts my eyes. no ghosting. Avatar depth setting to 2 (maximum) practically no ghosting.
