Is Win 8 a better solution than Win 7?
  1 / 5
Just curious if the DX11 fixes work in Win 8 and if there are performance improvements? I had to roll back from Win 8.1 over the wkd to Win 7. Cheers!

I'm not sure if there are performance improvements over Win7, but it definitely works just fine with the fixes (as opposed to 8.1).

Yeah I was on the Win 7 pro brigade and trashtalked Win8 but after a while I now just loves Win 8 :) No problem whatsoever for me ..oh and im on Win 8.1 btw! So you just go Win 8.1 as I think it's the best OS ever! But then again I couldent care less about 3d gaming annymore but the 3d gaming I have done have worked great. It's just that for me the 3d novelty have weared of as for most people and by the looks of it 3d is allready dead and buried long ago. If it wasent for Helix and co it would be dead way back. VR is the future as thats real 3d and not this joke looking at a monitor with stupid glasses. It just downgrades and kills the picture.

@InSync: Please go someplace else to spread your anti-3D hate. The fact that YOU choose to not play in 3D doesn't mean "it's dead", "the novelty wore off for most people". You are saying those things to justify to yourself that you made the right choice. Speak only for yourself, do not try to speak for others. If YOU want to miss out on the best advance in gaming ever, that's your choice. Your loss. On topic: Win8.1 is a terrible choice for 3D at present. There are several bugs with it detailed elsewhere. It's not the best OS ever, it's the bleeding edge. You can expect a lot of extra problems to solve. The question is between Win8 and Win7. In my judgment, I think it depends upon your personal needs. Either works OK in 3D, there aren't fundamental graphics changes at the driver/API level in Win8. I usually only update when there is something that I need in the new OS. The marketing people will always try to make it seem like a new, great thing, but the reality is, it's just different. Not necessarily better, not necessarily worse. There can be two drivers for an update. First is if they fixed some killer bug that has always caused you problems. Worth an update. Second, is if they added some new feature that you really, really like. The DX11 fixes with 3Dmigoto will work properly in Win8 and Win7. Win7 will tend to be a little more stable because of its maturity, and is still fully supported by Microsoft. Edit: BTW, there are no performance improvements that I've seen for Win8. I've yet to see a benchmark showing any gains. For me personally, I tried to move to Win8, because of the new features of the process manager being far superior under Win8, and better SSD management. But, I simply found it to be too butt-ass ugly to use on a daily basis, and the value proposition just wasn't there for me.

InSync, i begin to think you are not noticed that VR use 3D too =). It sounds like you don't understand basic principles how VR gadgets work!

Lol. I always get a kick out of the 'I'm not wearing those stupid glasses ... VR iz da futurez!!1' mentality ... probably be the first in line to bash VR when it finally arrives, always hating on something. 'VR is dead' ... 'I'm not wearing those stupid goggles' ... 'The Holodeck iz da futurez!!1'

InSync, are you sure you ever were a 3D gamer? I don't think "the novelty wore off" is a normal reaction of a 3D gamer who played games in 3Dvision, properly set up, lightboost, convergence, fixes etc. I don't think anybody could play games in 2D, after they have sampled proper 3D, like I have on my setup. Looking at a flat screen, or being inside the game world ... hm, gee, let me think! (not to mention that VR might not even have the full capabilities of 3Dvision, like superstereo - aka toyification - or fine resolution, or maybe much much later. It will just envelop your vision more completely, and will move the screen accourding to your head movement, but I'm not sure I would want this in every kind of game) In any case, if you want people to take you seriously, at least on this forum, dial down the "I'm tired of 3D" discourse, or at least clarify that you've been playing 3D on a console, or with the default 10% depth, or have been only playing the Crysis games, etc.

Of course I know how VR works, the thing is that it works like it should ..LOL! No crappy glasses to look at a fake 2d flat screen as both eyes will get each of their owns display so bye bye ghosting and destroying the picture as it works now! You can say bye bye to colours/sharpness/ details right now as it's just fake crap 3d in the end. We can call it real 3d but thats far from the truth. AMD ceo said that 3d gaming as we knows it is dead, as it destroys the picture and that easy WHY the developers dont give a flying FUCK about 3d annymore. VR is a whole other world tho so YES 3d gaming aka 3d vision is dead long ago, it only takes it last breath thanks to you guys as nVidia dont give a shit couse it's dead and burried allready. As said I have played with 3d vision for years but damn, to get a little more deapht but a crappy picture, how can it be worth it!!! The novelty weared of and thats a thing allmost EVERY DEVELOPER THINKS TO!!! Get the ROG Swift G-Sync when it comes out and let this shit die allready as you will get NO more 3d vision native games, even the devs that are doing VR 3d right now DONT care to implement 3d vision as they all know it's not worth it. 3d is dead, long live 3d huh as VR is where the future are so please go cray and bitch as much as you like couse you ALL know it's true!

@InSync You're comparing 3D Vision to something that hasn't even been released yet (Oculus CV1). We can have this conversation 18 months from now. But for right now, what are your alternatives to 3D Vision? Oculus DK1, Tridef,..

My bad, I fell for it again. I thought InSync was being serious. Clearly, he is just trolling. Trolls just want attention. Please don't feed the troll.

Ghosting/ Darkens the picture A LOT, desrtoys colours and contrast and kills most details! If you are to blind fanboys to see that then WTF are I am talking to you guys. Blind follows the blind here huh. I am not trolling just tells the truth. I mean you get all the deapth you ever need, but hey if you still insist to game with a downgraded picture then do so!

On any monitor and no any real cure. - Colors no. - Contrast no. - Details no (and i can't understand how it is possible). - Darkens picture yes, if you use 3D Vision 1 kit + no Light Boost monitor. If you use Light Boost monitor and 3D Vision 2 kit you aren't noticed darkening. It is huge difference really between no Light Boost + kit 1 and Light Boost + kit 2.
