Hey everyone, I've got an Asus VG278H and have been having trouble getting 3D games to run. I have a 2013 iMac with a Nvidia GTX 680MX (which is 3D capable.) I'm running Windows 7 on bootcamp and have all of the latest drivers from Nvidia. I'm using a mini display to dvi adapter. I can get Mass Effect 3 to work in 3D somehow, but everything else doesn't work. I can't get through the setup wizard and whenever I set a custom resolution of 1080p at 120hz, I get screen flickering and a message that says "Incorrect cable. Use the DVI cable that came with the monitor." I am in fact using the cable that came with the monitor.
When I run though the setup wizard, I get to the screen that shows the different shapes. I don't see any 3D there so I select what I see. It then says "setup was not completed etc." I click on the troubleshoot button, which launches the internet browser, and boom, the green 3D light lights up on the built in IR sensor and my glasses turn on. But when I go back to the setup wizard, they turn off again. I'm not sure what the heck is going on. I've tried everything I can think of.
Whenever I press the keys to turn on 3D, Mass Effect 3 works perfectly. Other games just shake. I'm at a loss.

you need mini displayport-dvi adapter with 3D support, higher mhz than the standard ones.

Oh really? That makes sense as to why the monitor starts freaking out at 120mhz. I appreciate the tip. Though before I spend $100, how sure are you that the superior adapter would solve the problem? I ask, considering Mass Effect 3 works in 3D with my current mini display port. Thank you!

it should work, however I have no idea how imac works, you'd better check out all the imac discussions here (use the search function)

I'm sure the passive adaptors don't have the bandwidth to support 1080p@120hz, so you probably do need to buy one of those (expensive) usb powered actvie adaptors.
You could try running 1280x720@120Hz just to test compatibiltiy of your system and 3d, as it doesn't need to extra bandwidth.
I don't know why ME3 works unless you're running it at a lower resolution?

I appreciate it! I'm new to the forums as of today. I'll do some more research.

That's a good idea. I don't know either. It is running at 1080p. I had been able to run. Battlefield 3 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 in 3D in 1080p a couple days ago. But ever since I updated to the latest drivers, neither of them work. I tried reinstalling the older drivers I had, but I couldn't get 3D to work on anything but Mass Effect 3. Its really odd.
have you ever successfully completed the 3D setup wizard?
if not, the 3D you got was probably not 3D vision 3D~
I have never completed the wizard successfully. But there have been instances where the green 3D light came on and my glasses activated and I was getting a true 3D image. Unfortunately the only game I can get to run consistently in 3D on my Asus is ME3 as well as 3D compatible media on my PS3.
Try setting your resolution to 720p instead. I suspect that ME3 is running because it defaults to something lower than the problematic 1080p.
I just tried setting the resolution to 720p at 120hz. Unfortunately nothing changed except for the fact that now I can't even get Mass Effect 3 to run in 3D.

Sorry that didn't work. If it was limited bandwidth on the cable, that should have worked. Seems like something else.
eqzitara has often suggested that the driver installs do not always work flawlessly, and you said it worked on Battlefield before these drivers.
Maybe try rolling back to the older drivers, and do a clean install as part of that.

Right, it does seem to be more than just a bandwidth issue. Though, it seemed that whenever I would enter the setup wizard, the screen would change resolution to 1080p. Not sure why, considering I had the system configured for 720p on both windows preferences as well as the nvidia preferences. As far as the drivers go, I tried reinstalling the older drivers to no avail. This is really boggling my mind.

Thunderbolt? Display Port? Mini HDMI? Can you add a link the product page for this adapter?
As stated previously, Nvidia requires an "active" adapter when using a Display Port to a Dual Link DVI(d) connection.
The only exception I know of is on some of the newer BenQ monitors with a built in Display Port connection. But even then, it only works with GTX 670 and newer GPUs as far as I know.

I bought this adapter years ago for my old macbook pro. Originally, I never had an intent to play 3D. Maybe this adapter isn't good enough. But considering I've gotten 1080p 3D from a couple games in the past, it makes me wonder.
