Future of 3D Vision Support (Official announcement from NVIDIA)
  6 / 42
That we don't need the 3D Vision Driver for the future. I only relied on the USB controller driver (which can be installed on any version)
And even if that becomes a problem, a VERY cheap workaround can be made that uses the pyramid emitters 3D sync IN plug, with any of the many microcontrollers around with ftdi usb chips to pc connection. I use the propeller chip ( https://www.parallax.com/product/p8x32a-q44 ) with esp8266 wifi ( https://www.parallax.com/product/32420d ) to interface to my design, wireless. GOOD FUN!

Sad news indeed. But Nvidia has been bringing 3d vision to new driver releases by likely just editing its version number, so the writing has been on the wall all along. Let's hope Nvidia do the right thing by open source all 3d related code, I'll support initiative by DSS and Bo3b to make 3d possible as Nvidia 3d vision replacement or upkeep nvidia code if it does go open source.

I don't know what to say at this point but I can't go back to 2D gaming and this may end my gaming career. 3dvision is the only reason I have stuck with nvidia all these years. As I assume new cards will require later driver versions, I won't be buying any new hardware from Nvidia. I would definitely be prepared to put quite a bit of money towards development of a solution from the 3dvision heros here such as Bo3b, DSS and Helifax Broke up with my fiancee last month, and now this. This is worse...

Very sad news, but predictable. I adopted 3D Vision on release 10 years ago and ever since I've been exclusively gaming in 3D, and I haven't played a single 2D game. It's funny that when I try a flat 2D game I get eye strain and headache. Count me in DarkStarSword and Bo3b with any solutions you can come up with that can sustain 3D gaming. I wanted to thank you all for the amazing work in transforming the 3D Vision experience in the first place. 3D Vision would have died a long time ago without your work. I would definitely contribute financially to any project or product that you come up with as most viable option. Couple of points to consider: I think the main hurdle is coming up with a solution/product/fix that can be incorporated in future hardware such as monitors, GPUs, projectors, VR headsets etc. The current stock of 3D certified hardware will run out sooner or later. So if we commercialize a product or create any fix, it has to be independent of current NVidia 3D hardware in order to continue working. Games get more demanding and new GPUs come in market. An example was Tridef VR which turned games into stereo 3D for VR headsets. You are right, VR is the most viable option. 3D TVs are also hard to find nowadays, and monitors don't work with TV or DLP glasses. If we keep 3D going for monitors, TVs and projectors, then any future commercialized product will have to have it's own emitter, glasses, and display specifications to work with. For example the eDimentional glasses used to work with any 120hz CRT display and had it's own emitter. Otherwise, we have to rely on TV and DLP glasses, and no monitor support. If we focus on existing community who owns 3D Vision hardware and keep current hardware going for a bit longer, it might be short term goal. Current 3D community's hardware won't last forever though and sooner or later we have to buy new Monitors and GPUs. 2080ti might last another 3+ years so beyond that we're gonna have to come up with something.

Sad that this day has come, but I'm glad NVidia has supported this for so long. I've mostly lurked on the forums, since I don't have a great technical grasp of these issues, but have greatly enjoyed the fixes and advice from all the members here. I know I'd back a kickstarter or any other funding plan that would go towards continued stereoscopic 3D support. I do own both a Rift and Vive, but have preferred playing things with 3D Vision even though my monitor is getting a bit old and behind the times. Planning to keep all my hardware around and running for as long as I can (picked up a pyramid emitter and extra glasses off ebay last year).
So, Bo3b and I do see a future for stereoscopic 3D, but - although we do see a future here, there is a lot of work to do to make it happen and we both agree that this is not something we could really do for free. As some of you are aware I personally have been living off my savings and donations from this community for the past 18 months - which, while I am grateful for them, at the current levels is simply not enough to sustain me for long enough to do this work. We've talked a bit about maybe doing a kickstarter for initial funding, and later selling it as a product on Steam, but the data points we have are a very mixed bag as to whether even that would be viable or not. For the moment I'm just putting this out there as one (and probably not the only) possible path forward, and would like some feedback from this community as to what your thoughts are.
I am definitely with you ! Let me know if your plans grow and you start something like a kickstarter compain or just let me know if there is a pateron page for the future plans of you both. I think VR will not an option because this will not be that hyped it should fo be profit .... i think .... So if you are able to continue the stereoscopic support and you need the time and money for this, here i am!! Just let me know. Hopefully more comunity members share this meaning!

I do think that if there is a kickstarter campaign. There should be multiple ways. For instance, I think there may be a certain amount of people, (Like me) THat would rather have 99% of the money go to you vs kickstarter fees. I obviously trust that its legit because of all the free work that you guys have done. And I do not think I would be in the same boat, and then have kickstarter for everyone else. But IDK how those work.

I guess the 2080 series will be the last official supported GPU, so I may have to buy one after all, my previous plan about wating for the next gen seems obsolete :/ I'll rather stop playing games, than go back to 2D!! I'll 100% support anything you guys come up with, Steam sale, Kickstart or whatever!

Maybe even a newer HDMI and/or Display Port version. As well as the new USB 4.0 on Motherboards. Noooooooo !!!! Shit!!! The worst news of all that a 3D fan can have! I am an NVIDIA card buyer for your NVIDIA 3DVISION! I am in a state of shock! It makes me want to cry! Nvidia ... but are you okay in the head? Do you have a product (NVIDIA3DVISION) that is superior and you treat it like that? Is that I do not give a shit to play in 4K + RTX because the best way to play is in 3D, even in Full HD and Dx9 !! It seems like a lie but the immersion and depth that playing in YOUR 3D has is absolutely awesome !! how the hell are you going to throw a treasure that you have to the garbage! Your head is going! You're crazy! I propose that we make a collection of signatures to NVIDIA of all the users that do not want NVIDIA 3D VISION to disappear. What a sad day!

indeed a bad news, but i see it comming...they start with 3Dvisionlive and go on...hope they don't close 3Dvision forum (we have a lot of info here). Nvidia announcement also means no 3D in DX12....so in 2 years (maybe more) when all games come in DX12, will be the end. In the meantime will be OK....all game will work with the last driver + 3Dmigoto...all 3Dfixes tweak the profile, so not neccesary a profile update from nvidia. I think asking to Nvidia to opensource (or give us the code) for 3Dvision driver is the first step to do. The following option is to start to replace the 3Dvision driver, but not only for Nvidia cards, also AMD (3D tech will hype again...is important to catch the next wave with all)...and also taking in mind DX12 and Vulkan. I will support any campaing for it. The Hardware part is the difficut one (3D monitor, TV, PJ), there are not produced anymore...so lets hope Avatar 2 will bring a new tech that give us another 10 year of 3D hardware.....so in the meantime, take care of your 3D setup with your lives.

I was hoping autostereo 3D TVs will finally launch and revive 3Dvision. Let's think what comes after this. I don't know how much succes we will have to get it opened source as Nvidia might want to reuse this in teh future. Perhaps we can ask for a standalone 3Dvision driver that can be installed over regular driver.

My main concern is... exactly how much support is required in Nvidia and AMD drivers to support stereoscopic gaming via a 3rd Party App. Immediately Quad Buffer support for OpenGL comes to mind. But it is only required for Frame Sequential output. Also, a 3rd Party App would require "AFAIK" Microsoft Windows ongoing support for their stereoscopic options within Direct X 9/10/11/12 going forward. Also, "what if" Microsoft ups the minimum requirement for stereo 3D support and forward compatibility is not offered? Any work up until that point will be nullified going forward. Say WDDM 2.5 or on, over the next several years? If forward compatibility is not offered? Not that this really matters. First we need to get over the initial hump of moving on to an alternative of Nvidia support. At one point, Microsoft was requiring Windows 8 for their new stereoscopic support, before relenting and offering a limited version of support to W7 users https://3dvision-blog.com/8470-the-new-windows-8-os-and-the-stereoscopic-3d-support-in-it/ https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Direct3D-111-Simple-Stereo-9b2b61aa Requirements In addition to the minimum supported operating systems being Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, a WDDM 1.2 display driver must be installed on the computer, and the graphics hardware must support feature level 10 or higher.
