I really hope the vg278H is better for you, it is certainly a lot larger than 24' (it really notices) and that helps with a good 3D effect. Let us know when it arrives how it goes.
Need to post an update before I can tell my final thoughts.
I need an opinion about the black level of the ASUS. I am disappointed about the black level of the VG278HE.
Please check the attached file. The clearly visible blue lines on the right, left and bottom of the screen distract me completely when the picuture is dark. Even the windows loading screen annoys me. I need to know. Is it normal? I've checked the review on 3d-vision blog and the model they tested was way better in terms of black level. Bad luck with the panel?

That's normal for me too, though mine might be a touch better. I've never noticed it while gaming or watching movies though, I can't even see it now while I'm writing this - only when I look at a perfectly black screen.

The backlight bleed on my VG278H is not as bad as yours, but I have heard the HE's have a few quirks like that. Relative to Alienware 2310 though that is pretty normal and ok (and the aw2310 was a top rated model). You're never going to notice it in normal conditions. How is the crosstalk levels vs the benq?

I checked and compared both monitors now for hours. I'm still not sure completely because I like and dislike different things on each of them.
Crosstalk:
Very little difference!
The problem is that I have to change ingame brightness for both monitors respectively to get the same experience because the BenQ is like 40x brighter than the Asus.
I took Alice: Madness Returns as reference.
The BenQ has a blue shimmer in the areas where it tends to ghosting.
The Asus has a black/white kind of shimmer, like a chessboard pattern in the areas where it tends to ghosting.
I can definetely decrease the amount of crosstalk on the ASUS by lowering the contrast. I can't do that on the BenQ! Asus contrast @20 and the picture is nearly crosstalk free. But it is way too dark of course. I set it to 55 as stated here before. I think it is a reasonable compromise between brightness and crosstalk. I like contrast @40 more in bright scenes but I can't play around with the settings every time the games switch between dark and bright areas. I'm not finally sure about which pic I like more but I tend to the Asus because the look of the ghosting areas is more comfortable.
The thing that drives me insane is that I set the BenQ in 2D to brightness: 0 and contrast: 0. I turn off light boost and set contrast: 0 in 3D. The picture is still way brighter (I seriously mean a lot!) in 2D and 3D than on the ASUS. I don't know if it is just my imagination but it looks a bit "milky" or foggy compared to the Asus. On the other hand I like the BenQ better for reading text or simply looking at the desktop. The picture is sharper, more brilliant. I judge the immense brightness (even when set to 0) for that feel.
I'm completely lost right now. I tend to the Asus because I like the black level more in gaming. Black should be black and not grey. On the other hand I like the colours and the overall image quality of the BenQ more. Crosstalkwise I'm not sure either. I think I might need to check different games to get a final opinion. Dead Space seems to be crosstalk heavy. I'll install that one.

Besides, it definitely changes the screen brightness without glasses.
Pretty good to see how it works.
