new vg278h showing up as vg278hr in nvidia control panel
Is this normal? the monitor only says h on the back and on the box. Is there a chance i got an hr labeled as an h?

Check if the monitor is capable to run at 144Hz in 2D then it is not a VG278H by definition. Mine says model no: VG278 Verson no: VG278H on the lower left fineprint on the backside.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.

Thanks for the info. I just wanted to make sure as I have read that the HR has worse checkerboard pattern than the H. The H still has quite a bit though. It also has more crosstalk than my VG248QE but the colors are better. During the Nvidia logo 3D test the QE has no crosstalk, while I can see some on the letters on my H.

I'm glad you said that because I'm noticing a very faint checker-board effect in 2D, though I can only see it when moving side to side in a game. I've had two 'H' models before this for almost 10 months, didn't notice this once, saw this the second I loaded up a game on my new one. I'm also noticing a very, very faint static effect to the screen, at first I thought maybe I hadn't plugged the DVI in properly, but it seems to be there no matter what. If yours is like mine you should be able to see it quite clearly on a white screen and if you stand above the monitor (out of the normal viewing angle of a TN display). Looks like the HR's are crap compared to the old ones then. Glad I'm getting rid of it.

The only time I see the checkerboard on mine is in 3D mode but it is pretty noticable. I had thought it might be better on this model than my VG248QE but it just isn't. I'm considering Sending the VG278H back and picking up a Benq XL2420TE instead. Are you seeing the static on your "H" or "HR" model? Do you see any crosstalk during the 3D test with the Nvidia logo on the VG278H?

Static is on the HR, it was never there on the H's I've had. It's been forever since I've ran the 3D test so I wouldn't be able to compare. From games though, the 3 monitors I've had have been literally identical in terms of ghosting and the amount of checkerboard in 3D mode. Aside from my first, which ghosted alot more in the bottom quarter of the screen (the reason I returned it).

I bought a VG278H last week (on newegg), production date: January 2013. And windows detect my monitor as VG278HR :( I don't sure if my monitor have issues like this: http://3dvision-blog.com/9009-some-3d-vision-monitors-may-have-resolution-issue-in-3d-mode/

I have gone through this experience myself. I've never seen an HR/HE to compare the VG278H to but I found the checkerboard to be distracting, maybe older VG278H's are different somehow. It isn't that I always see it but If feel it softens the edges of a many objects on screen. The effect doesn't seem avoidable if you have a lightboost monitor.
