Toggle3D - A Simple Solution To An Irritating Problem
As I'm sure experienced users of 3D Vision / 3DTV Play know, not every game or program has the ability to set the Resolution and Refresh Rate of a display so that it works for 3D. Having recently purchased a Passive 3D TV ontop of the Optoma HD66 that I used for 3D Vision, I found myself getting more annoyed with having to set the resolution on the Passive 3D TV every time I wanted to run certain games or programs. As such, I spent part of the morning writing a quick and dirty script in AutoIt to handle setting Resolutions and Refresh Rates with a single click. What this allows you to do is either toggle your 3D Resolution on and off with the click of a button (or hotkeys) or create a shortcut that sets the Resolution, runs a program, and then sets the Resolution back to your default once the program has closed. I can't be the only person that has had this problem, so I'm tossing it on here for anyone to use. (Source is included, modify freely) Setup is simple, just open 'config.ini' and set your Default and 3D resolution. By default, to toggle on or off your 3D Resolution just run 'Toggle3D.exe'. To run a program using Toggle3D, create a shortcut to Toggle3D.exe and then add:
" /path <Path to Exe>"
at the end so that it looks something like this:
"C:|Tools|Toggle3D.exe" /path "C:|Program Files|3dtv|StereoPlayer.exe"
(Make sure the path is encased in quotes) Download: http://belarr.com/misc/Toggle3D.zip Full Disclosure: Due to the nature of AutoIt, virus scanners may throw off false positives. Read more about it here: http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/topic/34658-are-my-autoit-exes-really-infected/

Just curious why is this needed? To switch down to 720p in 3D and back to 1080p after? I can run everything @ 1080p60, so no need here but I am interested.

There's a few reasons, the first of which is that Active 3D on my HD66 requires 720p@120 but having it in 120hz mode sticks it in 3D mode regardless of what's on the screen which means I can't adjust anything because it jacks up the brightness for 3D. Depending on what game I'm playing (if it has fine text or not) on my Passive 3DTV some things look better in 1080 and some in 720p (fine text). So it makes a nice easy switch for those games that require 720@60 or 1080@24 for others. So in that respect, you're correct.

Hmm, I've been using a program called Hotkey Resolution Changer for this, not for 3D but for when I need to sit further back and use a smaller resolution. Trouble is it likes to ignore my input after waking from hibernate and takes up space in the icon taskbar, might have to give this a try, thanks.

A Hotkey can be set in a shortcut to the program easily enough, which is how I have it set up.
