+1,
Yes, it's part of 3DTV Play. Once you intall the new beta 310 drivers, there will be a pop up box so you can select: 3DTV Play or HDMI Checkerboard. CB has been added to 3DTV Play software.
CB has always been part of 3D Vision, but it would appear only for older HDMI 1.3 TVs, that's why we had to use Rollermod, so it would fool Nvidia drivers into recognizing our HDMI 1.4 3DTVs as HDMI 1.3, therefore providing CB support.
Checkerboard has always been a 3D Vision's feature because of so many existing DLP 3DTV users. It's now a new feature for 3DTV Play.
Really happy with the new addition, thanks Nvidia.
The great deal about having CheckerBoard + Frame Packing at the same time without having to keep changing EDIDs, is that we need Frame Packing for bluray3D playback, but for those who can benefit from CB, like Samsung 3DTV owners, we can now game at 1080p60hz. That's just great news....
I just wish that Generic CRT mode was also back to 3D Vision/3DTV Play features.

Although I am not using it it, I add to the "Thank You" list to nvidia. Adding (or bactually bringing back) cnacelled out features is highly appreciatted and welcomed as it will helb to maneuver 3Dvision out of the dead end it had itself steered into.
So:
THANK YOU
(Now next to come genric CRT down to 60Hz, SBS etc ;) )
One question regarding the "new" CB mode: As I understand, contrary to the former mode this will work through HDMI and thus use the integrated 3D solution of the TV/projector or can it also be used like previous with the USB emitter and the VESA sync cable?
(oh, Franco, did you receive my PM?)

QuadrophoeniX, Yes I did, I will now asnwer it cause I found your message quite interesting, but very confusing and complicated, that's why I'll reply to your PM, cause I really found that very interesting.
Nvidia its great to have CB added to 3DTV Play features, but can you please also add Generic CRT mode to 3DTV Play, as this not a new addition that takes time to develop like SBS, but an old feature that ws always present in HDMI 1.3 devices using 3D Vision, but banned for no reason in the newer drivers.
but can you please also add Generic CRT mode to 3DTV Play
Automaztically enabling 3DTVPlay with generic CRT (if to come) is no good idea as HDMI bandwith is not enough for 1080p/120Hz. It's rather advised to leave it as was, as this will give you the choice: hooking up a Dual Linbk 120Hz monitor you can use the 3Dvision solution, connecting your TV via HDMI/DVI adaptor will reduce max refresh to 60 and give you what you are looking for: 1080p/30Hz.
Though, you would loose audio over HDMI (not important for gaming) and would have to switch to 3DTV play for 3D movies. But there is a better solution:
Adding to generic CRT on DVI Nvidia also could enable 30Hz to their 3DTVplay menu. That should be plain easy.
I'd even go out on a limb and say the best possible experience might be a "540/60" mode with alternating odd and even lines of a 1080 frame. Additional payload should be minimal and the resulting 1920x540@120Hz should well fit into HDMI1.4a bandwitch. The clue is that polarized screens discard every even or odd line of the 1080/24 anyway so the result in fact is 1920x540@48 per eye. Hence the visual experience of the should not differ from a 1080p/24 but the refresh rate. It's just to find out how TVs would handle such a weird format....

Nice, thanks to Andrew for fighting to bring this change to market on our behalf. I'm surprised there hasn't been more attention to this driver update given how much outcry there was demanding it over the last few years.
I'll give CB a try this weekend on my Samsung D7000. I wasn't overly impressed with CB in my initial testing, as I very clearly saw the aliasing from the CB pattern, but I'll give it a more thorough testing this weekend. I'm sure its better than 720p framepacked, but HDTV 3D still has a long way to go imo.

I know there are limitations in Generic CRT mode, but 1080p30hz FS mode is way better than lame FP 1080p24hz. I know it almost look the same, but 30fps is OK for some games, but not 24fps. 24fps is only good for bluray3D playback, no gaming.
So, I just would like to have the option for selecting Generic CRT mode, like I had with the older Nvidia drivers before July 2012.
Now, adding Generic CRT mode to 3DTV Play would be great, but I really don't expect that Nvidia will ever do that.
Just having Generic CRT mode back to HDMI 1.3 devices would be good enough for me.
I think not so many folks are thanking Nvidia for the addition of Checkerboard mode, cause this forum has been out for months, and many users from the older forum haven't been around.
Even Roller, the user that created Rollermoad and that really wanted Checkerboard added to 3DTV Play, hasn't showed up in this new forum yet.

AND don`t forget many users bought new TVs and now (for me Samsung) cancelled their CB functions on the standard line of the TV models (afaik only the new premium TVs still have CB) - took too long for nvidia to put CB into the driver again. My "new" Samsung ES406300 has just SBS and OU and no more CB.

This fix is a non-starter anyways for HDTV CB users. Selecting CB still results in the Red text saying 3D on the TV is turned off or the VESA emitter is disconnected.
Best long-term fix for HDTV users will still be 1080p/30 or 1080i SBS support.

I believe Samsung killed off CB support on all but the highest range TVs starting with last year's 2011 models. Only the D7000/8000 range supported CB 3D, the same may be true with the 2012 models where you'd need a higher-end ES7000+ model for CB support.

I've been awaiting for a longtime for checkerboard to be added. I just built my HTPC with GTX 670 OC. Thanks Nvidia.
FYI - LG supports checkerboard. At least my 60PZ550 does. It's a 2011 model.
