Ive been away for a while..is 3D vision doing fine? I want to get GTX660 sli for it..good idea?
Hello! I have been non gaming for a long time after selling my GTX 570. I looked around and it seems that a GTX 660 (even non TI) in SLI are a great performance setup for not much money compared to a 680 when thinking about 3D vision. I want to make sure it is still alive even though I have TONS of games to play for sure...heck for starters I want to start over and finish Fallout! That tells you how long it has been. :) Regards

Not looking great. New consoles on the way, all games will be Dx11 and Helix hasn't got a wrapper for it yet.

That is sad to hear :/ Well at least I have tone of games to catch up anyway. Do you think the 660 sli will be a good choice?

The biggest addition since you've been gone is the Helix mod https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/513190/3d-vision/how-to-fix-disable-shaders-in-games-dll-guide-and-fixes-/ The drivers are still hit and miss, never know if something is broken in a new release. I still want a sync invert hotkey for my projector as well as a screen size selector.

Depends. On Nvidias part, its almost catastrophic, we are in the dark in terms of 3d vision, there has been no dev around here since the forums opened. However on the community level, helix mods have been doing an incredible job fixing many games and making them work almost flawlessly in 3d, so many games that were unplayable at first (dishonored, far cry 3, darksiders 2, bordelands 2, cod, etc) now are almost 3d ready (check the list here http://helixmod.wikispot.org/gamelist ). So all in all, its a mix of good or bad, 3d community has never been stronger so I think that we will be doing fine without nvidias support, and later on occulus rift is in the horizon that may benefit indirectly 3d vision.

As far as a 660Ti, you should be fine. I don't think your DLP display will do full 1080p at 120Hz (I seem to recall it does checkboard for half frame rate?) If that's the case, you probably don't even need SLI, because it's a rare game that will push the video card hard enough, even in S3D. I run 580 SLI to a 1280x720x120Hz projector, and it's a rare game that pushes the cards very hard, even with max settings. For present Helix mod games, the requirement is DX9, which is also less demanding. I think you could get away with a single 660Ti, and also SLI later if you found anything wanting.

As for the GTX 660's in SLI, I'd say go for it. I've got them and the performance is really really good. Imo they're the best cards out right now considering the price/performance ratio. I came from GTX 460's in SLI and while they were still doing pretty well, the performance difference between the two is just unbelievable. Also I'd go for the GTX 660's in SLI rather than say one 660 Ti especially because stereo 3D just seems to benefit more from having 2 (a bit less powerful) separate cards doing the rendering rather than just one a bit more powerful one. As for 3D Vision, I have to say it's not looking too good at the moment. Luckily we have Helix and some other great people without whom 3D Vision wouldn't even be worth considering right now. All we can hope for is that somehow it picks up at some point and that both nVidia and the game developers consider stereo 3D as something more than just an afterthought.

Thanks a lot guys. Yes I was thinkings 660s non TI to get SLI cheaper. I used to have a 570 and some games like Metro were really tough on it. So I see that to use that community mod for games that dont support 3D Vision normally I have to lose forget dx10/11 and use only dx9 eh. A bummber there but oh well, its better than playing in 2d flat lands. I really dont understand why some people is so stupid about 3D vision...I mean you spend all that money on cards and playing 3D games yet for all the beauty and detail, you prefer to experience it in 2D? It really makes no sense to me. lol Oh and I guess Nvidia is still the best option since I have the 3D vision glasses right?
