Using the iZ3D Beta 1.13 Drivers with 3D vision glasses

I'm sure everyone here reads Bloody's great 3D vision blog. But in case You have missed the news (and my actual comment) I wanted to post here a solution to test the iZ3D Beta 1.13 Drivers with 3D vision glasses - without the need to own two S3D compatible PCs.

Here my workaround to use the experimental beta 1.12.5145 with 3D Vision glasses:
1. Download and install the experimental beta 1.12.5145 drivers
2. Ensure that 3DVision and iZ3D use the same VSync frequency (3DVision: in the control panel mark settings for the test picture to be used for every game; iZ3D: status and methods / output iZ3D shutter / force … Hz). I've got the best results using 100 Hz.
2. Ensure that the desktop resolution is the same as the resolution of the game You want to test. Also set desktop frequency to same value You use for 3DVision and iZ3D.
3. Activate 3DVision in the Nvidia control panel, disable the iZ3D driver.
4. Start IE (in my case IE 8), open a picture on http://photos.3dvisionlive.com and activate the 3DVision version. Now with the Silverligth plugin the IR emitter turns on and even keeps active when You minimize IE.
5. Deactivate 3DVision in the Nvidia control panel, enable the iZ3D driver with the iZ3D shutter output. The IR emitter should still be active.
6. Now start the game You want to test in fullscreen mode. When it runs iZ3D should provide the pictures while the IR emitter activates the 3DVision glasses. If the IR emitter turns off when starting the game either the desktop resolution or the frequencies are different. Or this solution unfortunately doesn't work on Your PC…

Nice. It's sure nice to have several options in stereodrivers for a setup. The iz3d-drivers always had syncissues with shutters while the outputs for passive setups works fine. The compability with ati's hd3d is improved and is getting better. I'm not using shutters myself so i don't have an own experience of those.

In Velvet Assassin I had some problems with shadows in outside areas using the Nvidia driver. iZ3D worked better in this areas. On the other hand the Nvidia driver offered better results in some levels inside buildings...

As the workaround now works quite reliably and more games benefit from the iZ3D driver I think I will buy the license after the trial period. I hope that there will be no patch that solves the "problem" with the IR emitter being active even if 3DVision is deactivated. Last but not least Nvidia itself could benefit from the fact that their shutter glasses also work with other drivers...

Discovered another game that needs the iZ3D driver to be playable with the 3Dvision glasses:

Using the Nvidia drivers the game is not playable because of a post effect (bloom?) that messes up completely the S3D gameplay.
The iZ3D driver can handle this post effect and offers a fair or almost good S3D experience. There are also some problems with shadows. As You can't turn them off completely in the graphic options You have to edit the file [b]ded.ini[/b] in the folder ...\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\hydrophobia.
Change to:
[bladegl.dpshadowmaps.low]
shadowmapsize = 1
[bladegl.dirshadowmaps.low]
shadowmapsize = 1
Then choose the low settings for the shadows.
There are also some minor problems with dynamic lights and a green filter if You are diving. But they are not really disturbing if You choose the right 3D settings for dephth and convergence.
I had a lot of fun playing the game and the fluid dynamics engine is very impressive!
I also made an important experience concerning the [b]sync problems between the IR emitter and the iZ3D driver[/b]:
I startet the game with the highest graphic settings (except the shadows) and the highest resolution. But I had several problems with the synchronisation. There was quite often L&R swapping and sometimes I got a blank screen and the IR emitter turned on and off.
All these problems disappeared when I reduced the resolution. Now the iZ3D driver obviously was able to maintain a stable frequency. The release notes for the experimental driver mention some performance issues with Nvidia cards. In combination with my old GTX 260 this could be the reason for the sync problems. So if You have sync problems try to reduce the graphic settings or resolution. I still prefer playing with reduced resolution in S3D than playing in 2D /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Please help,I was able to get the photos from http://photos.3dvisionlive.com work fine,but every game that I tested don't.I can't find this option "output iZ3D shutter / force … Hz" in Iz3d.The one that worked for me was:120hz 3d device and Iz3d monitor.
PS:The photos only worked in 3d with Mozilla Firefox

Please help,I was able to get the photos from http://photos.3dvisionlive.com work fine,but every game that I tested don't.I can't find this option "output iZ3D shutter / force … Hz" in Iz3d.The one that worked for me was:120hz 3d device and Iz3d monitor.
PS:The photos only worked in 3d with Mozilla Firefox
Are You sure You installed the right driver: iZ3D Driver version 1.13 Experimental beta 1.12.5145 (EXPERIMENTAL beta, not the normal one).
Are You sure the iZ3D shutter output was marked when installing the driver?

There also are some games that don't seem to work with the iZ3D shutter output (Shaun White Snowboarding, Shift 2). If both Nvidia 3D drivers and iZ3D are activated at the same time games usually crash if You try to start them.

Found another advantage of the iZ3D driver:
In many "3DVision ready" games the manual convergence settings are locked - often to a level that is good for some rare cutscenes but result in shallow depth perception in most other situations. There had been many complaints about that but it didn't seem to help.
Now using the iZ3D driver I can manually adjust the convergence the way I want to have it /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':biggrin:' /> As there are 3 possible presets it is also easy and quick to change the settings for the cutscenes. So e.g. in Resident Evil 5 I get much more depth than using the Nvidia drivers. So let's hope that there won't be "iZ3D ready" games with the same restrictions as for the "3DVision ready" games...

For me unfortunately it won't really work. I got it to work once and then there were sync issues. All the other times the game would just stutter a few times and then I'd get a BSOD in a nvidia driver.

I discovered that switching with [alt+tab] between a game and IE with a picture from http://photos.3dvisionlive.com helped a lot when I had sync problems.
As the workaround now works quite reliably and more games benefit from the iZ3D driver I think I will buy the license after the trial period. I hope that there will be no patch that solves the "problem" with the IR emitter being active even if 3DVision is deactivated. Last but not least Nvidia itself could benefit from the fact that their shutter glasses also work with other drivers...

Using the Nvidia drivers the game is not playable because of a post effect (bloom?) that messes up completely the S3D gameplay.
The iZ3D driver can handle this post effect and offers a fair or almost good S3D experience. There are also some problems with shadows. As You can't turn them off completely in the graphic options You have to edit the file [b]ded.ini[/b] in the folder ...\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\hydrophobia.
Change to:
[bladegl.dpshadowmaps.low]
shadowmapsize = 1
[bladegl.dirshadowmaps.low]
shadowmapsize = 1
Then choose the low settings for the shadows.
There are also some minor problems with dynamic lights and a green filter if You are diving. But they are not really disturbing if You choose the right 3D settings for dephth and convergence.
I had a lot of fun playing the game and the fluid dynamics engine is very impressive!
I also made an important experience concerning the [b]sync problems between the IR emitter and the iZ3D driver[/b]:
I startet the game with the highest graphic settings (except the shadows) and the highest resolution. But I had several problems with the synchronisation. There was quite often L&R swapping and sometimes I got a blank screen and the IR emitter turned on and off.
All these problems disappeared when I reduced the resolution. Now the iZ3D driver obviously was able to maintain a stable frequency. The release notes for the experimental driver mention some performance issues with Nvidia cards. In combination with my old GTX 260 this could be the reason for the sync problems. So if You have sync problems try to reduce the graphic settings or resolution. I still prefer playing with reduced resolution in S3D than playing in 2D

Otherwise the IR emitter stops working as soon as the monitor gets black. So make sure that in the game the resultion is the same resolution as in windows desktop. Also make sure that the frequency settings for Nvidia, iZ3D and the desktop are the same.

In many "3DVision ready" games the manual convergence settings are locked - often to a level that is good for some rare cutscenes but result in shallow depth perception in most other situations. There had been many complaints about that but it didn't seem to help.
Now using the iZ3D driver I can manually adjust the convergence the way I want to have it
