USB Extension
Hi

I'm thinking about buying the Nvidia 3D Vision kit but if I want to use it, I'm gonna need about 4-5 meters of USB cable for the 3D Vision emitter.
Has anyone managed to use the emitter with an USB extension cable ?

Thanks for your help!

I have a 10' extension cord to my emitter. No issues. I did have issues when I had it plugged into a USB Hub with no extension.

Standard is 5 meters.

Google is your friend.

Actually yes, Google is my friend, but he told me that usb extension might not work with some guys whereas it perfectly works with others.

Anyway, thanks for your answer /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Hi

In my testing I have found passive USB cables do not carry the signal far enough. I have experimented with some powered USB extenders that do work.

I've also found that the Geffen USB extender http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=2178 works really well. Its expensive, but is solid as a rock.

Obviously, the smart thing to do is spend $10 on an extension cable first. If it doesn't work, then try something more expensive. If you have lots of money, then go with this response.

Yes that's very expensive /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

I've heard that with a single cable ( mini usb <-> usb ) of 5 meters instead of adding an extension to the original cable, that might work.
Have you ever test something like that ?

I really don't want to buy the 3D Vision and then be stuck because of the usb :(

Thanks

PS : the exact length that I need is 4 meters.

I have purchased $40 powered USB extension cables from FRY's electronics and they work fine. I do not have the model number handy.

I suggest a best way to use is the usb extender which will help in good signal transmission without using the usb extension cables

I found a powered extender with exact same specs as the geffen one andrewf mentioned on monoprice for $11.16. I ordered one, and once I have everything I need I'll post my results.
