3DTV Play - 50% gpu utilisation
  1 / 2
Right, this is driving me mad, i am running a gtx 295, dual core gpu.

If i play batman, Gears of wars, well basically any game that is properly going to use my gpu using 3dtv play, i seem to get to 50% gpu use on both gpu's and it will not go any higher, so my frame rate can drop down into the 30's while only using 50% of each gpu but, if I swap over to my samsung 3d vision ready monitor though and use 720p like i am with 3dtv play, my framerate stays really smooth and my usage can go up into the 90%'s on both.

Anyone else noticed this?

I know its not supposed to be actually released yet, but a few of us have it working so i am very intersted in your findings.

Is it a problem on my side, or is it something to do with the way 3dtv play is working at the moment, and if so, are Nvidia aware of it?

Any feedback is welcome and i would love to hear from anyone involved in the project, even so we can maybe help to make Nvidia aware of any problems they have not stumbled across themselves.

Cheers

Dave

Dave,

Don't worry about bugs now, you should be a happy guy by just being able to use 3DTV Play as most of us 3D Vision users who also have a 3DTV can't enable this software just yet.

You won't get any help from Nvidia personnel, since 3DTV Play isn't officially released and it was not suppose to work with these bet drivers.

BTW, what's your 3DTV type and brand??? I have the PN63C8000 Plasma. Are you having problems with ghosting in the games you have tried so far in your TV??
If your 3DTV is LED than I guess you can't avoid ghosting, but if it's Plasma, I was really interested about this information, as Plasmas don't have nearly as much ghosting as LED TV's have.

I followed your advice and used the DVI input on my GTX 480 instead of the mini HDMI, but I still can't see the 3DTV Play logo, all I see is HDMI 1.4 bluray 3D.
I have also disconnected my Alienware 120hz display and only used the TV connected to the first DVI slot of my GTX 480 using a HDMI/DVI adaptor. I also used a high speed 1.3C HDMI cable, but still no 3DTV Play, only the 1.4 HDMI bluray 3D.

I'll just wait for the damn software to be ofically released, I'm tired of tweaking this, I can't get 3TV Play to work on my TV. I've tried the mini HDMI and both DVI inputs of the GTX 480 and no success.

Also, both DVI's can pass sound through the TV, not just the mini HDMI input, I have confirmed this today. Anyway I hope 3DTV Play works with the mini HDMI when it's oficially released, as it's much easier and better to use than the DVI inputs and won't make me use a HDMI/DVI adaptor.

Please Nvidia, release 3DTV Play, enough of waiting....

Thanks for replying Franc

I am actually just having this problem using sli, if i take sli off my gpu rockets up to 90 odd %, so it seems to be an sli problem with 3dtv play just now.

Sorry to hear you can not get it set up to test it out, weird thing is, I installed a new fresh version of windows 7 on another hard drive i had lying about to test out if it was a clash with tridef that was causing the problem, and you would not believe it, i can not get 3dtv play to work with that fresh version of windows, pretty bizzare, so i am sure it is something to do with having the old betas in then installing the new ones just after, but it never worked with my other version of windows 7.

I am using the panasonic plasma vt20b, picture quality is lovely, but you do still get ghosting, it helps when a game's convergence can be adjusted, you can play about with depth at 100% and then twist the convergence for pop and to set it so ghosting is almost erradicated, but resident evil looks terrible on the tv as the locked convergence is set just leaves 2 totaly seperate images that ghost severly, put me off playing through it again.

Sounds like SLI is not fully supported yet with 3DTV Play, which may be one of the reasons its release has been held up. This is similar to the problem a few games have where they are only 50% utilization in 3D Vision in SLI, although the number of titles nowadays that have this problem are few and far between (Avatar really only one left). I think it has to do with a simple tick-rate problem where the engine just isn't accounting for the fact it needs to produce frames 2x as fast in stereo3D. Avatar also happens to be one of the few games that supports a wide variety of 3D formats natively, including many of the HDMI 1.4 formats I believe. Probably more than just a coincidence really.

As 3DTV play hasn't been oficially released, I guess it's to soon to complain about possible bugs that occur on this unreleased beta 3DPlay software that only works for a few lucky guys.

I have Avatar game that I bought from Steam, I just need to reinstall it and try out with the 3DTV. So, I don't need 3DTV Play to play Avatar the game in 3D on my Samsung 3D Plasma? What in game settings can I enable to make this happen? I heard there's the side by side option that you can use the TV's layout option and convert it to 3D. I just have no clue how you'll be able to adjust depth and convergence?

I can't play Avatar anymore, I've finished the game with the Navi's and humans, but i'm dying to see 3D game on my TV cause I haven't had the oportunity just yet. the 2D-3D conversion for games is a complete joke as expected.

Nvidia release the damn thing...

Avatar is one of the BEST experiences you can have with 3D gaming, IMHO. Forget that you've played it through twice -- the game transforms in 3D -- you'll just be wandering around marveling at the world for hours on end...

Avatar indeed has a side-by-side split screen rendering mode (amongst several others), so just flick your TV into that mode and enjoy the 3D, sans any nvidia 3D tech. As for depth, convergence etc. you can set all of that in the game's options. It actually has more options to tweak than 3D Vision has!

Once again, brilliant game in 3D and one that you can experience right now without 3DTV Play.

I've played Avatar in 3D on my Alienware 120hz display using my 3D Vision googles. I haven't been playing games in 2D for some time now, about a year I guess.
But it must be amazing to see this game in 3D in a 63" Plasma 3D TV that I own. So, I won't be playing the game again, I just want to see how a game will look in 3D on my TV, as I wasn't able to try out 3DTV Play just yet.
