How to tell driver not to detect display? CD 1.08 - Control panel or switch somewhere in registry?
Guys, I got 2 displays hooked up to the GTX285 but not always want to use them both. The problem is the Geforce driver always scans and detects both displays and I have to deactivate the unwanted display every time. It's getting old after 1000th time. I want it to be the way it was last selected by me and stop the auto detect nonsense at all times as it is presently. Would appreciate any lead/clue/pointer here.

Thats very odd. I'm using the same card and I had to turn off my second monitor to play some games in 3d. (as i used to play them in windowed mode which doesnt like 3d)
However,
In my case the 2nd monitor has stayed inactive.
You might need to reinstall your nvidia drivers if the control panel isnt saving your changes.
Im running Vista 32 with the latest nvidia drivers.

Thanks for your reply.
In the past couple days I've been thru several uninstall/reinstall trying out the 186.08 beta. But this display auto detect has been going on spanning several past driver release as well. This past weekend I downloaded the newest (beta) Driver Sweeper and it really cleaned out Nvidia driver /w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00t:' /> to reinstall the CD 1.08 but the damned thing still auto detects like crazy.

Cheers

Your windows settings could be stepping in to autodetect your monitor settings. Something to do with Transient Multimon Manager blah blah blah..
Im at work so i cant test this at the mo but it might be what you are looking for.
This is for VISTA only.

1. Open the Start Menu.
A) Click All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Task Schedular.

OR

1. Open the Control Panel (Classic View).
A) Click Administrative Tools -> Computer Management.
2. Click Continue for the UAC prompt.
3. In the left pane, expand Task Scheduler, Task Scheduler Library, Microsoft, Windows, and click on MobilePC.
4. In the middle pane, right click on TMM.
5. To Disable TMM - Click on Disable.
6. To Enable TMM - Click on Enable.
NOTE: TMM is enabled by default in Vista.
7. Close Task Scheduler.
8. Logoff and logon, or restart the computer to see the change.

This sounds really good. I'll definitely give it a try tonight. Many thanks.

Finally fixed the problem, I think.

Tried the TMM solution but it didn't help, I even deleted the entry , disabled the "hotstart" entry, still no go.

I opened the startup and started going thru the entries, saw a few Nvidia commands so I unchecked them and a few others, restarted but to my surprise they came back again unchecked (together with google update crap). That's when I realize I had installed ntune/system monitor etc from Nvidia which were promptly uninstalled and that finally seems to solved the monitor ayto detect problem.

Hope this helps someone with similar issue.

WTF, it still didn't work. Nothing in startup and the damned driver still auto detects both displays. This driver definitely has no memory of what is going on. Team Nvidia help! Please implement a "manual detect" option in the control panel. The whole world is going green, get on the band wagon /w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00t:' /> and let's the user chose what display to turn on for peace sake!
