Stereo suddenly stopped going in sync Newest drivers, brand new hardware.
Hi there. I am on the newest NVidia 3D Vision Drivers for Quadro (280.26 as of this writing) And everything was working fine on my brand new Acer GD235HZ monitor until today.

It only worked for two days.

Whatever 3D content I view gets out of sync in about 30 second intervals. The glasses will be fine, then drift to inverted eyes, then pop back to correct, then fade to switched eyes again, over and over. This is in 120HZ mode. In 110 or 100hz the problem is even worse, about 1 switch per 3 seconds.

I am on an HP Elitebook 8540w which has an NVidia Quadro FX 880M in it. I am using a Dual-link Displayport to DVI adaptor. Which is also brand new.

The Specs on the computer are as follows:

Intel Core i7 Q840 1.87GHZ
10GB DDR3 Memory
NVidia Quadro FX 880M 1GB
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Aero disabled
Internal laptop display disabled, only external Acer monitor is enabled and is set to 120hz

I have made a video showing my issue. Which you can view here:

Broken 3D Vision Video [WARNING! The sound is VERY loud for some reason]

I have tried rebooting, and reinstalling the same drivers as a clean install.

This is exactly the same issue that (AFAICS all) 3D vision surround users experience on the third monitor, with every driver after 270.XX. It works when first installed but once a monitor is powered off (seemingly at the wall) when the machine is rebooted the monitor goes out of sync.
There was a work around just posted in the 3D Vision Surround forum, it amounts to ensuring that all the monitors are set to a PC resolution rather than the HDTV equivalents before enabling 3D, it may not apply in your case.
I have seen this once on a single monitor, reinstalling the drivers fixed it for me then.

I'd do a reinstall of the drivers you have and then I would suggest starting with the 270.XX drivers.

There is a post saying the bug is filed in the long thread in the surround forum, but it's been months since it was first reported and ad far as we can tell in the surround forum it affects every surround user, and there has been no traction on a fix.

I will try those fixes. I have tried already to reinstall the 280.26 drivers, but I will try back on the 270 series.

I am not using 3D vision surround, or 3 monitors. Wonder why I have the issue.

Is the issue solely in the drivers? I am just hoping none of my hardware has gone faulty.

Pretty sure it't the drivers as I said I've seen it on a single monitor system, but over a year ago, and I've seen a few people post with the issue between then and now.

My current best guess on the bug is that some of the ports default to expecting a TV instead of a monitor and use the 1080P video settings by default rather than the 1080P monitor settings, ending up with fractionally different video timings. I assume the video resolution is optimized for playing 29.97Hz video signals, and the PC timings are dictated by the monitor EDID.
Possibly because you are using a laptop to drive an external 3D monitor your seeing the same issue.

But it's all speculation, I just wish NVidia cared enough to fix an issue that seems to affect every single regular poster that's running 3D in the surround forum.

I just called customer support (408-486-2000) and they are having me install 270.16 drivers. lets see if this fixes it.

Didn't work. Now "Stereoscopic 3D" is not even listed in the NVidia Control Panel.

Now even updating back to 280.26 I still dont have "Stereoscopic 3d" listed

Now of course they are shuffling me back to HP who made my laptop, which will be even more of a joke in customer service.

May be I can 3-way call, so they can stop pointing fingers.

Looks like it's about time to give up and return all of my 3D vision products.

By the way... why is that support number not listed anywhere on NVidia's site? I had to google around for it.

Did you do a clean install?
I've not had good luck rolling drivers back without selecting the clean option in the installer.

Yeah, I did a clean install.

So I returned my 3D Vision kit in exchange for another one, to rule out hardware failure on the glasses and emitter. The new ones didnt help.

This means it's Drivers or my monitor. I'm going to try to do an exchange on the monitor this weekend. If there's no one else to blame but NVidia after that, I'm returning everything and giving up on 3D.

And I did a little test. I opened up Nuke, and set the left eye to a solid red, and the right to a solid blue, and watched for my glasses to freak out. Sure enough they keep drifting, then popping over and over again, but I noticed the timing isn't the same every time. Sometimes it's as little as a 3 second cycle, other times up to 30 seconds. This is my only reason for suspecting the monitor. You'd think if the drivers did it it would at least be consistent.
