Running Universe at War in 3d
Here are my notes for running "Universe at War" in 3d under winXP but can someone please tell me if this works under vista/3d-vision?

I tested this game and found it to work well under winXP using a geForce 7800GTX and driver 77.77.

Make the HUD 2d:
The game has a bad 3d HUD that is too close but fortunately you can fix it since the game can run with HW T&L off so disable it via the 3d display panel, then tweak a registry setting.

under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\game-name]
set RHWGreaterAtScreen to 3f7cf574

Don't forget to run the nvidia logo test at least once after you change HW-T&L off/on.

Then adjust sep/conv to make it lood good in 3d to your satisfaction.
That should do it.
Enjoy.

Ok, I knew this game wasn't even on the compatibility list (which sucks for a GfW Live title and a RTS title--they should be supported), but I tried it after reading your post. It does not even go into 3D with 3D vision. But if you are using it under the older driver setup, I wonder why? This is a fairly recent game.

Oh man that stinks. It's so dissappointing when newer things don't work as well as the older things. I feel like I should apologize for misleading owners of the newer system but my problem is that I have all this data to share on the games I've tested but nvidia doesn't have an alternate forum for posting data for the old system so this is my best choice for place to post. I think it's because nvidia wants everyone to move on to the newer system and sell more of them and I don't really blame them much for that. Still, I think people who want to keep their old systems should have their own place too. I may have to eventually move to another site like MTBS or something. Anyway...

Here's an idea I had about why some older games work in 3d only with older drivers and not newer ones. It may have something to do with the changing technology of graphics cards. I've found that many old games work under win98se and a GF4 using driver/stereo-driver combo 56.64/61.76 in PCI mode but not in AGP mode. Other games work in AGP mode but not in PCI mode. It's as if some games were written with one technology in mind and so it works better with that and not the other. Fast forward to drivers 77.77 and 91.31 on a PCI-E motherboard. I have games that work under 77.77 and not under 91.31 and other games, vice-versa. I think this accompanies the transition from AGP to PCI-E and SLI technology. I think these are the kinds of things that cause the differences but I could be wrong. Anyway, that's the theory. Maybe someone from nvidia could answer that issue better.

Myabe someone else (or nvidia) will figure out how to get it working. Does it have it's own 3d profile in the registry? Maybe that's the problem.

OK, so here's an experiment for the mildly brave. Take a game that you know works in 3d and save (export) the stereo3d registry settings to a file for safe keeping. Delete that entry completely. Find the other place that nvidia stores s3d config game data (C:\NVIDIA.LOG in the old setup) and delete that. Then try the game and see what happens. If it doesn't even switch on, then you've learned something about what happens when a game has no s3d config data and you can recognize what that looks like. Then restore the data and restart the game to confirm it works. If it doesn't work for some reason, you may have to reinstall the driver. I think it's a small price to pay for the info.

Alright, well I hope someone else can help you more. Sorry.

I forgot to mention, when troubleshooting 3d functioning in games, try turning down the video settings. Resolution doesn't matter much but extraprocessing effects do sometimes. It's hard to know what will make it work so just turn off all special effects. If it works, you can turn some on later to check them. This is such common knowledge to me that I failed to mention it although on second thought I shouldn't expect a new user to know it.
