NVIDIA 3D Vision and Nintendo Virtaul boy Wrote extension for emulator, need testers
Hello!
Some of you might know the Nintendo Virtual Boy (excuse the typo in the title), an early attempt at making stereo 3D gaming (the effect was called "parallax" back then) popular (in that regard, it's similar to 3d Vision hence the frequent (?) comparisons).
If you don't know it, the Wikipedia Article and AVGN Review give you a pretty good overview of what it is - there was a Mario, Wario and 3D Tetris game for the VB, alongside some others (like 20... but there's a respectably large community creating emulators and homebrew games).
So anyways, I programmed an extension for the multi system emulator (one of them being the Virtual Boy) called "mednafen" which makes it support 3D Vision fullscreen output (see my post over at their forum).
However not many people know the Virtual Boy AND mednafen AND have 3D Vision (I must be pretty much the only one, at least I've found this question asked just one other time). I really do not know if my plugin works for more people than me as I have no other 3D Vision systems around to test.
I prepared a video with complete setup instructions for the emulator, a frontend and my plugin and I would be happy if some people from around here tested it - I guess the concentration of 3D Vision users is highest here on the whole net.

I remember playing a VB at Target back in the mid 90's and I thought it was pretty cool. But never had a chance to own one.
THIS is way cool! Your 3d vision batch file worked first time for me. And works perfectly too! The only thing about the 3d vision is that it doesn't disengage the emitter when I quit.
I don't know if you did it on purpose or what, but I like that I can just move the mouse to change the plane of the virtual boy image. I did have a crash after playing Wario for about 30 min.
Other than that I'm really enjoying this now! And black and white is far better than black and red.
Now if this could be integraded into the MedGui advanced options window for VB it would be much easier to use. But even as it is, it seems to be working good! /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm glad it works for you A.B. and thanks for the feedback!
It doesn't disable the emitter for me either, don't know why this is happening (happens with some games and windowed applications (silverlight plugin, youtube html 5 3d...) too). I'll have to see whether there's something I can do about it with maybe the nvidia stereo api. Yes, adjusting the effect strength/relative position of the second image by moving the mouse is a feature.
I never experienced a crash so this is hard to reproduce and fix. Did you do anything special? Are you sure it was the emulator and/or the extension? Does this always happen? Does this happen without the extension? I think there's still a small problem with the memory access because there's a row of repeated pixels on the right side of the right image, maybe that caused it.
I also think this should be a built-in viewing option. I was suprised to find out this is not the case - where do you even get a monitor which can display vertically or horizontally line interlaced graphics (two of the built in viewing options) as stereo images? Or where would you get that CyberScope thing (hood attached to monitor) to view stereo images displayed rotated by 90° side by side (listed as "cscope"). See http://www.goliathindustries.com/vb/VB3D.html for more info about these viewing options, built in to the RealityBoy Virtual Boy emulator (the mednafen VB emulation is basically just a copy of this, but I personally think the sound emulation of mednafen is better).
I'll get in contact with the MedGui developer...
EDIT: @BababooeyHTJ I'm looking forward to your feedback.

It's only crashed for me once so far. So it just could have been my machine. I played Wario for 3 hrs yesterday without a crash.
I'm an old school gamer too so I really really love the 8-bit graphics and gameplay mixed with 3d! Too bad the VB tanked and not too many games were made for it. But Wario is fun.

Well i tryed it. But it gives me a black screen with a mouse pointer when i execute the Med3DV.bat.
I followed your instructions to the letter. 0.9.18 with the GUI and the MED3DV. I'm running an Intel CPU, Nvidia Gforce 480GTX, and i use an 1280x720p Acer H5360 projector.
I can start the emulator fine. Only when i get to the running Med3DV.bat it leaves me with a black screen and the mouse pointer. 3D vision is beeing switched on while going to the black screen. When i alt-tab, i can see the graphics from the emulator when it's in windowed mode. But when i try to switch back with either alt-enter or alt-backspace it try to go to fullscreen but it fails and leaves me with an maximized window.

Hmm...
Is the projector your primary (and only) monitor?
Is the window maximized or fullscreen (should be fullscreen)? Alt-Enter Maximizes the mednafen window hence the shortcut for my window is alt-backspace.

The first time it starts fullscreen, but it gives me a black screen with just the windows cursor. When i alt tab and then alt backspace it try's to go to fullscreen but it fails and leaves my with an maximized window.

Ok, solved it. Problem was my projector. exchanged it for another one and now it works fine!!
Thanks, i always wanted to experience virtual boy in 3d!

But when i try to switch back with either alt-enter or alt-backspace it try to go to fullscreen but it fails and leaves me with an maximized window.
