I'm a total noob when it comes to anything HTPC, 3D etc so please bear with me ok.
Am about to purchase the Samsung PS64D8000 plasma as well as thinking about building a HTPC. Am wanting to get into 3D gaming and watching 3D movies etc.
Can anyone tell me what the score is with 3D processing via the Samsung. I'll be looking at adding a GTX 560Ti and as far as I am aware, I will only need the 3DTV Play software to view anything 3D yes?? Will I need 3D VISION as well?
Also, I've read that with 3DTV Play, I will be able to use the Samsung SSG3300 glasses instead of having to worry about the 3D Vision specs. How true is this?
So in a nutshell I am asking this.....
1. Am I going to get a decent 3D experience if I go down the HTPC route?
2. Will I get a 1080p 3D image while using the Sammy spec?
3. What have I overlooked in terms of viewing 3D via HTPC via my 3DTV?
4. Should I save myself a lot of money and just buy an Oppo BDP 93 instead?
Looking forward to your replies guys. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

2. You can get 1080p24 only, not 1080p60.
3. Nothing

In 2011, Samsung made a critcal design change that greatly affects 3D gaming, they eliminated checkerboard mode on all TVs except for D7000 and D8000 LEDs, Plasmas no longer do checkerboard. Checkerboard 3D mode is the only 60 FPS, native res mode that Nvidia software supports, so if you get a 2011 Samsung plasma, it won't be available and you'll be doomed to scaled 720P *AND* 'video mode' pixel processing in 3D games, a double curse. In 2010 models, that same Samsung plasma would do native rez per frame 1920x1080 CB mode 1 to 1 mapping and 'PC mode' pixel processing, the highly desirable combination. I would strongly advise either getting a 2011 D7000 or D8000 LED, or, a 2010 Samsung plasma.
Despite what nvidia support may tell you, checkerboard mode is in every release of Nvidia software. Dozens of people in this forum, myself included, are using 3D Vision on their 2010 Samsung HDTVs today thereby avoiding inferior scaled 720P 3D gaming and 'video' mode pixel processing. The importance of gaming in native resolution/60 fps (CB) cannot be overstated, and that's possible only with 3D Vision, not 3DTV Play.
3DTV Play does not support checkerboard mode and that is unlikely to ever change due to nvidia's "no user intervention" policy as it applies to their 3D gaming software.
If you have questions, and I'm sure you do, PM me or post a reply in this thread.

That answers a lot for questions and makes perfect sense and I am very appreciative of your comments.
Thing is, the 55" D8000 is tiny and the whole object of buying the 64D8000 was to have a bigger screen without going down the PJ route. We've currently got a 50" 1st gen Samsung HDTV, but it is just become too small. The nearest 2011 alternatives are the LG 60PZ950T (£2200) or the Panny TX-P65VT30B (£4700:omg:) and I favour a plasma over an LED TV. We've got 2 LEDs, 1 LCD and 1 Plasma around the house at the moment and the plasma is by far the best TV.
I'll have a look at last year's models, I may even safe myself a wacking load of wonga as well.
Are you able to give me the heads up of larger screen models that would support checkerboard mode??

Totally agree, with 3D gaming, immersion is everything and immersion = size, that's why I got the 2010 63" Sammy plasma instead of an LED. 63" is the biggest you can go and still get checkerboard.

The Oppo BDP 93 is a universal BD player, about £500 here in the UK and the next option I would choose if the HTPC was a given flop.
So viewing 3D Blu Rays would be fine but I would really struggle with 3D gaming yes?
What would I really need to benefit from the 120hz experience that doesn't involve buying a tiny PC monitor?
