what gets you the best 3d vision experience currently available? which monitor etc would you recomme
1 / 2
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 3d monitor with nvidia 3d vision.
I looked at a lot of products and reviews but I cannot decide on what to buy, so I was wondering what people here on this forum would recommend..
What is the best product to buy currently?
Here's some background information:
- I have a really fast PC with a nvidia gfx 560ti
- My budget is 300 - 500 euro (650$)
So far the most appealing choice seems to be
- ASUS VG236H with NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit (360euro)
- ASUS VG278H with NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 Kit with LightBoost (550euro)
with the second one being slightly over my planned budget...
I'm also wondering which monitor has the least ghosting?
Asus 27" 3d vision 2.
As long as it isnt defective.(They may of fixed issues by now, however asus has good return/replacement policy). See 3dvisionblog(google it) for more information on settings and review. I havent heard any issues that haunted its release lately tbh.
If its troubled past bothers you, you may want to wait for another 3d vision 2 monitor. 3d vision 2 is probably the smartest thing to happen to lcd. LCD has horrible crosstalk/ghosting in my opinion. 3d vision 2 monitors allow you to lower contrast on monitors but raise brightness on glasses. Which helps counteract the innate crosstalk/ghosting in all lcd displays(almost defeat it according to many happy users).

Depending on how much room you have, you could go the DLP projector route. They're around $400-$600 USD for an Acer 5360 or Optoma HD66. I never thought I'd buy one of those. And my wife thought I was nuts for setting up a gaming projector setup in our small room, until she watched her first Youtube video on the big screen.
With a nice high-gain Da-Lite Hi-Power screen, the image is so bright it hurts my eyes without my DLP-Link glasses on. Having a huge, bright, and ghost-free image is an amazing gaming experience. The only downside is the low 720p resolution. To me, the huge ghost-free screen makes up for it; at least in 3D. For 2D gaming and desktop work, make sure you have another decent monitor! At least 720p doesn't require 3-way SLI'd 580s to run smoothly.

I almost bought the Optoma zd101s, but went with the rechargeable True-Depth glasses. They do have a tiny bit of ghosting near the edges of the lenses, though, only visible in my peripheral vision. It's weird; like the lenses aren't uniformly dark when the shutters close.

I do also use the 5360 btw.(And also use hi-power screen lol) Would be funny if we used same glasses.Optoma zd101's here.

Thx for the replies so far, I think I'll wait until there is a affordable good 24inch monitor with lightboost available... what also caught my interest is the sony hmz-t1 video glasses (but they are a little too expensive for me at the moment and I also found no shop that sells them currently).

I can vouch for the Asus VG278H as I have had it for 2 months. The Lightboost technology does wonders for games and you can dial down the default brightness of 76 to about 55 to further reduce crosstalk while still having a bright image. As a bonus, you can play PS3 games in 3D using the HDMI port and without having to install 3DTV Play software.

@alex1g
3 projectors is such a headache lol. You have to use each one at same time or switch between them(if only going to use one at a time when not playing a 3 screen game) because of lamp life. Also when you use remote it, it activates on all of them. Though I will admit it does look amazing. Just not practical

I'm so tempted to get a 3D projector, which is substantially cheaper than my original plan of getting a normal TV for game consoles and a 3D monitor for my PC. I'm just worried about how difficult it would be to set one up.

Yeah, I imagine it shouldn't be a problem to get space for it, though finding a spot to actually place it might be a bit more tricky. It'll have to be elevated so it could pass over my seating arrangement, and I'll need to figure out where I'll want my game systems positioned in relation to it. If everything's directly behind me, I'm worried that wireless mice and gamepads will be affected, and you kind of need wireless in these scenarios unless you want the room to look hideous.

Can always go short throw I guess. http://www.amazon.com/Optomas-GT750E-Short-Throw-Projector/dp/B005G2HR6W/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327541611&sr=1-2
4 feet away from screen is 80"(DO NOT GET A HIGH GAIN SCREEN IF YOU DO, Get something a bit lower/medium at most. Unless it has low lumens.)
Average projector is Like 9 feet is 80".
Screen gains(of one you should get) depend on lumens, darkness of room, Distance from screen, and angle of projector to screen, and also to keep in mind 3d cuts brightness.
I heard of some1 who got a high gain screen and a short throw projector and he described it as a flare.

the hmz-t1 provides the best 3d vision experience that I've had. I also use a HD66 projector and it provides a great image too but I don't have a hi gain screen so it loses a lot of brightness. The hmz-t1 does not have the brightness loss and the image quality of the OLED is really excellent. If you can find one and afford it then the hmz-t1 is awesome. I was just playing Grid on it tonight and it was amazing how much more immersive it was than when I play it on my projector setup. The image was very punchy and the 3d effect was excellent.

HMDs have also been on my consideration list, though there's no a lot to choose from. The HMZ-T1 and the upcoming ST1080 are really the only appealing options right now, since Vuzix HMDs has never seemed all that good.
