3D Vision + SLI + Win8.1 Problems
Hey all I have a problem with getting very poor and choppy framerates (single digits) when running 3D vision and SLI at the same time under windows 8.1. This affects the majority of the games i play, but if i turn off either SLI, 3D or boot into windows 7 instead, the problem disappears, and suddenly performance is fine. I've been trying all sorts of silly things trying to fix this, but with no luck. I've been lurking on these forums but not really posting, but now i was wondering if someone could lend a helping hand and help me figure out how to fix this. Anyone have any similar experiences or ideas? Thank you.

The general consensus is that all flavor's of windows that support DX10+ are fine, performance wise, the exception being Win 8.1 - https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/759785/3d-vision/is-win-8-a-better-solution-than-win-7-/ Check the above topic for more details. My Personal Experiences are, from best to worst: #1) Windows 8 #2) Windows 7 (SP1 or Better) #3) Vista (Yes, even Vista - SP1 or Better) #4) Windows XP - Threw this in, would be ok for a circa 2008-2010'ish 'Nostalgia System'* (As I call them) *Where the entire PC is constructed of, and is running all software from that specific point in time. In other words, steal Doc Brown's time machine, input the date 'Nov 5th. 2009' - Hit 88MPH, After a brief stint through time, go around the corner to the 'Internet Cafe' to see a guy named 'Griff' (remember just say no!)Zap him with your trusty taser (sleep inducing alpha-rhythm generator?) Once he's knocked out grab a PC that is properly built for 3D Vision and is running Win XP SP2 (Or Better) - Get back to the time machine (don't forget to feed 'Mr. Fusion') - convert to 'Hover Mode' (Don't worry, where you're going you won't need roads) and fly back into the present. - Enjoy! That was simple enough right? And Finally: #5) Windows 8.1 Seriously, read that thread, more details await you. ~Nutz (yes I am)

Common problem with 8.1, no reliable solutions are known. You pretty much have to roll back to 7 or 8.

Thank you for the answers. Pretty much what i had feared, but was hoping there was something else to go for. Fortunately i think i can use my present hardware without going the Marty McFly route, but always good to have the directions in case i should need them! Now to find out how to install windows 8 with an 8.1 key... EDIT: Oh and btw, that thread doesn't seem to provide much info on the whole 7/8/8.1 issue? It seems to mainly just be a case of "3D's dead" "No, it isn't" "Yes, it is" /Repeat ad inifinitum

I saw a post from logzz that said he found good performance in Win8.1 as long as he did a clean install, not an upgrade. That's a possibility anyway. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/759637/skyrim-doesn-t-run-since-i-purchased-a-second-gtx-590-/?offset=10 It's pretty clear from the forum though that 8.1 causes all sorts of weird problems that you can possibly get around, but I still question what there is in 8.1 to make anyone want to spend time working around those problems, when you have a known good working state with Win7. People should remember that Win8.1 is all about mobile devices and power saving, and does not really care about desktop at all. Microsoft no longer cares about desktop, not really. They believe the hype that only mobile matters. It's wrong, but they clearly believe it.

I can say windows 8.1 3d vision works fine providing you do a clean install of 8.1 and not an upgrade of windows 7. I am now dual booting both because of this people saying that 7 is better for 3d but all in all im finding no issues with 8.1. I suffered with bad stuttering for ages, driver changes and all sorts after doing a clean install of 8.1 all issues gone. And watchdogs is smooth as butter on windows 8.1, it use to be choppy to the point it was not playable everything changed after a clean install. And I should not be getting stutter with titan blacks in sli. 8.1 is good if you can get your head round some of its silly little things it does. Im set up to dual boot so its good I have been testing games on both

How do you make a clean 8.1 installation with only a windows 8 key? It's obviously possible to do clean 8 and upgrade to 8.1 for free but that is not a clean 8.1 installation

Funny thing was after one clean install I still had issues it was not until the third one it came right. But to be fair it was way out of date, before doing anything else after a clean install on 8.1 update it until you cannot update it anymore
I used an 8.1 Pro OEM disk and I don't have any problems. yet.
Finally running in to more issues as described in other threads, and tired of having SweetFX problems too. Digging my Win 7 Pro disk back out of the closet... Ya, I'm kinda stubborn, but not stupid :-)
