Id say it would be too late for this gen. But what do I know about hardware.

Well the rift can take HDMI input (converted to DVI). I can't see why it wouldn't be possible, especially given they could do it with a depth buffer.

Yes, should work fine. PS4 is reported as HDMI output, which connects to Rift directly. PS3 stereo always supported side-by-side which is what Rift needs. Would likely still be a small market, but it would cost essentially zero, especially for a Move type game. This all sounds like good news to me, in Rift you cannot get away with busted shaders and lights in one eye.

I ment as far as performance but I did indeed forget about depth buffer.

Based on their hardware specs, I'd say it should perform well, even if they use alternate eye instead of depth buffer. The screen is only 1280x800@60Hz, not even 120Hz. PS4 GPU is roughly a 7870, that can run Arkham at 60fps at 1920x1200. Should not be a problem to run Rift, even the consumer version.

No one knows what will be the final specs, and so how it could run on a PS4. Technically I think PS4 will be able to run VR games, at the cost of a loss in visuals for some of them.

Isn't the PS4 is already going to be playing games natively at 1920x1080p? So splitting that in half on the Rift would be a loss in visuals in itself ... but the rendered pixels are technically the same ...

The protoype 1080p rift is considered a "glimpse of what's to come". They're saying initial consumer Rift's will be less than 1080p. Source: http://www.develop-online.net/news/44500/E3-2013-Oculus-Rift-prototype-shows-1080p-HD-support

Article is not confirming/denying it will be... greater/less then/ or equal to 1080p imo. Im curious how it will all work since with all the software in pace. I always thought it needed a strange res. but Im curious if they are stuck with it.

If they release the consumer version at 720p initially, they are just shooting themselves in the face.

@bo3b I was always lead to believe HSBS / FSBS takes same amount of performance. Was I mistaken? Well 720p is less then what it is. Its 1280x800 I really dont know of any panels besides something custom made they can find between 1280x800 -> 1920x1080. Then it will be more pricey. People keep talking about stuff thats higher then 1080P but prices are steep. 16:9 really seems cramped with that kind of FOV though[8:9 per eye]. I have to see for myself when mine comes *soonish?*.

I loved that as a kid, I may of been like 9-10 years old. It died in like a week as far as games but I would of kept using it. People **** on that device but wario was great. The problem was that while wario was designed for it nothing else was. Before there was trine/rayman origins... there was Wario. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmStwsNAyP0 Though I wont deny.... red+black was not the greatest of ideas.
If they release the consumer version at 720p initially, they are just shooting themselves in the face.
They'd be shooting everyone in the face who wants immersive gaming. 720p/2 is just way too frikin low. Unless they make known plans to release several higher resolution units quickly afterwards.
