Better keep discussion going. Really gratefull what you guys have done over all those years! Going from changes in direct X , tools etc you guys are genius. Though never thought Nvidia would trow this curveball at you. Willing to donate for a workaround. Also how long will it take till they shut down this forum? It still holds so mutch information. As indication for money wise Iam willing to donate 50Euro a month for a subscription for software Startup to pay around couple of 100Euro like good software (adobe,Sony vegas etc) Really wondering how it will goes down from here At least we got a huge list of game`s to play thanks to awesome shaderfixers!

As per the other now locked thread regarding the death of 3d... " We appreciate your support throughout the years." Sounds quite rude and abrupt. More like we've moved on so stuff you. Very disappointing, great tech VR just isn't there yet IMO.

We ask what are we going to due with thousands of dollars spent on 3D Vision related equipment which will become useless in the next year the thread get locked. Don't be surprised if the 3D Vision forum is no longer here. NVidia's bottom line Thanks but we are going to do nothing and don't brother us. I wonder if the reason 3D Vision was discontinued because of RTX tech.

What makes you say that? Nowhere does it state that anything akin to this is against forum policy.

The likely reason the thread was locked was because:

1. I wrote to Jensen, and he had the thread shut down on the same day; coincidence? I don't believe so.. - We were also encouraging others to write, and even provided a link to his direct email to enable one to do so - imagine coming home to numerous emails from people who you spurned, asking you to reverse a decision you and your employees made months ago. The guy is a multi-billionaire thanks to his shareholding; I doubt he gives a damn.

I'll take responsibility for that, but I have no regrets over writing to him, and neither should anyone else.

2. Literally stated in the post from Tim@NVIDIA that the decision had been made; thread locked, as pretext.

3. It could also have something to do with this 300 page thread I started a long time ago, which played a part in the class action lawsuit against nVidia, where nVidia eventually conceded its loss in the form of a settlement, and agreed to pay damages to every customer in the US, as well as all legal fees, as well as taking an extended hit on share price:

https://www.overclock.net/forum/69-nvidia/1535502-gtx-970s-can-only-use-3-5gb-4gb-vram-issue.html -

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/07/nvidia-offers-30-to-gtx-970-customers-in-class-action-lawsuit-over-ram/

It is conceivable that he might remember me, and preemptively locked the thread to nip things in the bud...

...but let's not conjure up scenareos; - the last thing we need is demented preachers espousing the 'word of god' that we are being punished for imagined sins :)

Direction and candid discussion about where to head from here, including developing our own means, is exactly what is needed to take place, right now more than ever, before all momentum is lost.

If threads are locked explicitly for this so called "reason", then I, for one, welcome it:

I agree - I also believe prior discussion thread was locked because of its emerging advocacy of communication with CEO... If NVidia will not open source 3D Vision code, we might consider using a new emerging foundation that IS likely to be supported for years - its multi view rendering technology (see https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1101775/3d-vision/future-of-3d-vision-support-official-announcement-from-nvidia-/post/6037152/#6037152). Would NVidia support creation of a large fixed virtual 3D screen for legacy “3D Vision” games in VR HMD, using multi-view library functions for stereo rendering? The incredibly rich and diverse helixmod.blogspot library of games is much too valuable to lose. New VR content has slowed during 2019, so the VR community (including Steam's new Index HMD users) would welcome helixmod's game library...

It will cost me effort but I will try to contain my insults. I have pieces of hardware with more than 20 years that are still plug & play ... (as is normal the software advances to make hardware work, not to deactivate). Nothing gives them the right to completely disable something for which I have paid my money. It seems good to me that they decide to make specific drivers for a new technology ... (although it does not include 3d, of course) But they are obliged to maintain my Nvidia Hardware drivers compatible with the new operating systems, simply because they are a company that sells something that we have bought. It is my decision to choose if I install some drivers or the others, but, if that, whatever it is should work in the operating system that has my computer, which is the same for which your product was advertised. I just hope that these abusive displays of terror towards us, their clients, are merely the product of my imagination and the result of my own fears. And I hope they know how to do things so that from my house I´ll still have a place in nvidia from which I can download compatible drivers with my 3d emitter, even if they are not compatible with their new technologies, in which I'm honestly not interested , as a logical alternative. Do your new drivers and whatever you want, but my 3d emitter respects it and makes a place from which to keep updating the new technologies. My fears towards your terrorism are provoked by seeing that from the nvidia page all traces of 3d technology have disappeared, as if they had never existed ... which is directly bad faith towards your clients ... (the fact that you close the previous thread does not leave you in very good place either)

Unfortunately we have 2 fragmented threads now, directly due to the actions of Nvidia. I do understand that it's difficult to extract components from a driver package, especially as Bo3b has given some explicit reasons why, so I know it's not a black and white situation. I think if someone was to kickstart a project, we should pressure Nvidia to donate. They are probably saving more money that you realise by dropping support and it could be a good PR story for them to actually be a part of any potential resurrection of 3d vision. Ssomeone internally at Nvidia has costed the benefits of dropping 3d vision support and someone has made a decision based on those costs. I would bet that 12 months worth of their saving would more than cover the cost of a 3rd party developing a complete replacement. Easily!

Stereoscopic gaming is/was the best gaming technology in their portfolio imho. Ray Tracing only compliments it, as does Hair Works, Wave Works, etc... In 3D these additions are spectacular, in 2D, not so much. In 2D, everything is so lack luster. 2D is not "the way it should be played" VR is a different beast. 3D Vision and VR compliment each other and offer choices for immersion related to preferences related to hardware and playstyle. While I'm not against strapping a large device to my head to game, I'd prefer to play non VR games on my monitor or projector screen wearing glasses with surround sound excessively loud.

with Nvidia showing zero interest or worse, negative propensity in shutting down user's thread once it becomes obvious users don't give up asking for supports, I don't see why we as Nvidia customers should continue buying Nvidia graphics cards in the future. So let put it to Darkstarsword and Bo3b, can your effort toward the 3d driver substitute completely do away with Nvidia and only work with AMD graphics cards ? AMD might very well be receptive to your asking for development support and who knows, there could be new wonderful things happen to both of you and AMD after working on their product and new way to monetize their graphics cards. Nvidia has shown their true color. Now we must at least think about our direction that makes sense.
