Nvidia 3D Vision and 3ds Max
Hi, I'm gonna buy the 3D vision kit, but before I'd like to know if it is possible to make a short movie by myself using 3D applications like 3ds Max and post-productions programs like After Effects. I don't want to see my movie just with classic anaglyphic glasses red and blue, but I want to take all the advantage of this technology!
Did anyone here try to do that?

Thanks! and if you have any link to tutorials or explanations i'd be very happy :D

Scuse me for my bad english but I'm italian and i didn't find information in my language...

It should not be very hard to render a stereoscopic 3D movie using 3D Studio. You just need to place two camera paths a little bit apart form each other and render the video for left and right eye accordingly using the two different cameras as views. But that is just in theory, I haven't tried that myself ;)

Thank you Bloody! Yes I suppese that I will have to do 2 render for both eyes and I think that I have to do it in the classic mode as described in some tutorials for red and blue glasses... I don't know if there are restrictions, if Nvidia approve to his costumers to do that and if there is the beste way to do a clip with this technique!

I'm still here waiting for your reply :)

It might take some time and some experimenting to find the best settings, but following some tutorials about anaglyph videos should be Ok, cosndiering that they do tell you how to render the two different views and after that to join them in anaglyph video... you just need to skip that part and instead you can create a side by side video containing both frames for the left and right eye.

There is a really good script out there to automatically setup the stereo cams for you. If I can find a link I'll post it. Also there is a video on Autodesk Area that talks about rendering stereo in max. I've done a few test renders but nothing serious yet.

It is the only forum I recived reply! I hope to be able to make a 3D Ready clip and it seems to be the right way and if it is possible I'll buy the entire kit to do that!

I found this script http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/louis/stere...reocam_modifier and a plugin called XIdMary, they're both for 3ds max, I think that to do a good stereo effect, i must follow the same anaglyph rules, it is not simple there are a lot of things to do and I still not produce a good effect with anaglyph and i'm impatient to have and try the 3d vision kit and his player!

If you know good tutorials and methods let me know

The easyest way to do this is to create a dummy object, and attach 2 camera on it. Link the DOF & FOV so changing one will change both. Animate the dummy object instead of the camera. Render the first camera, and then the second. use any movie editor to place image side by side or up/down. And you 3D movie is done.

Hope this help.

XIdmary do it automatically put two renders side by side and you don't have to do it in post production! :D i suggest you to try it if you use Max!

Yeah ! this is a nice plugin. Don't forget to read the doc that says you have to multiply the horz rez by 2 and set pixel ratio to 0.5.

thanx for the plugin.

I did some 3D renderings with an older cinema4D-version(7.2). I took two target cameras beneath each other(like eyes) and linked them to one target dummy. When i moved the two cameras(inside of one dummy) they ever spotted the target. And the target was of course the zero-parallax. Moving the target near to the cameras and the scene moves into the screen. Move the target away and scene comes out of the screen.
By the way: I'm not a big 3D-artist so please dont laugh ;-) .

:D you're a great person, tomorrow ì'll try (now i'm not on my desktop), I didn't move the target but just the objects, then I'll try to move all, xidmary does the same thing you've done in C4D, my problem is that i've to learn very well this technique and make a 3D video using Nvidia kit!Thank you!
