L4D Bright Flashing & MS Security Essentials Disable active scanning of game folder!
Just thought I'd toss out a warning about Left 4 Dead and Microsoft Windows Security Essentials - it seems that the active scanning triggers the same sort of bright (and extremely annoying, painful after a while) flashing in the left eye when highlighting items that was reported with the EVGA Precision and other resident programs. I added my C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam folder (your location may vary) to the excluded files & locations list and bingo the items just highlight without burning out my retina anymore.
My guess is any program that does active scanning of that sort (AVG resident shield, etc) could cause the same sort of problems in games. Why? No idea at all!

Ok well I thought that would fix it for good but apparently not - the mega bright flashing came back when I went to play again just now - restarted the game 2x with it in the exclude list and the flashing continued, but then I took the path out of the excluded locations and the flashing went away. Any ideas at this point? Seems almost like a toggle that something goes wonky but gets fixed when the path is excluded / re-included and the game is restarted...

I change synch setting in the game when I have this problem, and it works immediatly, without restart game, but it doesn't fix this problem definitively :(
