Invest in an LG OLED that supports 3D maybe. Honestly, the experience is unparalleled. Garuntee you'd fall in love with 3D all over again (without having to wear a giant piece of kit on your face). Not sure about availability in Japan, though. But I do miss the crystal clear full resolution 3D.
It's actually a TV not a monitor. It works great for me. It was expensive, yes (found my C6 55 inch for $750 used) but it's OLED and the best display you can find on any TV on the market, not even mentioning 3D. Also, its passive so you can just use the same kind of glasses the movie theaters use for 3D movies. They might give you a few pairs for free :) I bought my glasses at best buy on sale for like $2.50 a pair. All in all the display is expensive but you are paying for one of the greatest TVs ever made :) Also want to mention that you could probably find a cheap VR samsung gear headset and try that. you could probably even find a used phone for really cheap that is compatible and use ALVR. I'm thinking about testing this setup myself
