Can someone PLEASE let the community know if and when these cards will be supported with stereo. It is one of the biggest things keeping most people back from purchasing one of these beautiful cards.
If any MOD/Admin can tell us if a stereo driver is in the works, then some of us (*cough*) will go out right this instant and purchase one of these cards.
Please nVidia, Can you do something about the situation?
With all our Love :'(

Indeed, I'm not making the same mistake I did when I got my first 6800 and ended up waiting a few months for a stereo driver. I certainly will not buy an 8800 until it has stereo support.

So, what time frame are we looking at here? I bought an 8800 GTS thinking that the drivers were already out since their website states that this 3D Stereo driver works for all nVidia-based cards. This is my first nVidia-based purchase and before this I have been a dedicated ATi user. This has been very disappointing because it is almost like false marketing on the part of nVidia not changing the download area's text. I guess I will have to wait. I needed the drive for a school project, and consequently I had to shell out more money to get a 7800 card.

ASUS Striker Extreme motherboard
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS + ATi Sapphire Radeon X850 XT (yes, in the same computer; nVidia TV out stinks, but ATi rocks with it!!!)
4 GB GSkill DDR800
5x HDDs (three 320GB (RAID5); two 1TB; one IDE 320GB; total 3TB)
2x Cooler Master 6 HDD coolers (primary usage drives)
2x PSU's (primary 600W psu, secondary 350W psu modded solely to power the ATi card)
32-in Samsung HDTV
Your guess is as good as mine mate. Buty I am assured that the driver is in the works. nVidia understandably has to put its resources in other driver areas, such as its DX10 driver which isn't doing too well.
Very Understandable indeed. As the end users, we can do nothing but wait :)

Sorry to say, but there will not be 3D Stereo support from Nvidia for Microsoft Windows Vista anymore. 3D Stereo Drivers for the Geforce 8800series under Microsoft Windows XP (not 64bit) will be out in eight months.

I can't believe this... Please tell me that it's a joke! No Stereo support from Nvidia in Windows Vista???
If this is true, and if nobody else continues to support us, stereo is dead...
I can't believe this - everywhere (even in cinemas) stereo is pushed forward, but Nvidia stops supporting us...
I've always bought Nvidia graphic cards for the last 7 years and spent more than 2000 Euros for that stereo support. I'm disappointed.
And I think Nvidia is stupid to ignore the possibilities lying in the stereo gaming market!
What a pity!

NOOOOOOOOO /no.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I buy an ATI card for the future. that's STUPID! do they have problems with the geforce 8800 or direct3d 10 with stereo3d? maybe there are to less nvidia cards for direct3d 10 atm for Vista so we can't use our "old" cards with Vista in stereo3d with direct3d 10 anyway. I am sooo dissapointed too! damnit it's so fun to play in real 3D. It's the future and was always the best argument for me to buy a nvidia card. /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> EDIT: IM PISSED...NVIDIA FU /argh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':argh:' />

It s bad news ,i do hope we will get a XP driver in 8 months nonetheless(please).
I got my EVGA 8800GTS a month ago
When i think it was my first switch from ati to nvidia and the incentive was mostly to get stereo drivers eventually which could prove quite risky now!
Can someone tell me why technically, stereo drivers number must match video drivers to work ?
a universal or generic approach if feasible would be most welcome and this
way upgrading to new drivers would be less problematic for stero compatibility.
I can understand if is a technical difficulty but it seems a very painful task to develop this way and the end user suffer because of lack of drivers compatibility
Imagine if you had to change or upgrade your multimedia software each time you
change video drivers to keep it working(in my case Multimedia center from ATI/AMD)
Thank you for your input
PS : By the way i have a ZMD 800 visor also that i would like to put to the test

Sorry to hear!
I bought a 8800GTX one month ago and was hopefully waiting for a stereo driver.
3D Stereo is what turned me into a gamer 4 years ago at the age of 30.
Mafia, Operation Flashpoint and UT2003 were the titles that blew me away in stereo 3d. I am very sorry to hear you are giving up on that technology.
How about finding a 3rd party that will continue 3d driver development with your technical help? For example eDimensional.
Another option is to discuss it with MS so it becomes a future feature of DX.
This way it will become part of the design instead of a side feature whose development team constantly needs to work around difficult design problems.
Please forward this post to the stereo team and send them my regards.
(or send me their email so I can do it myself)

Thank you for promissing us continued support for Stereo and then not.
Thank you for lackluster games support.
Thank you for having us buy your products for stereo over cheaper and faster atlernatives.
Thank you for having us spend a small fortune on Stereo equipment.
Thank you for turning everything I've ever bought from you into door stops.
Thank you for not opening up the driver to OpenSource when we asked.
And THANK YOU for cutting us off once and for all, and taking down all the HMDs and 3D monitor products with it - Just when things were starting to take off.
We love you so much that we will honour you by buying ATi from now on.

The added bonus will be ofcourse, a dropped price :)
A stereo driver would be a perfect christmas gift. The only remaining question is how does one go about putting a driver into a stocking? :P
