Serious Lasersight Performance Issues. Vista x86 Not new, so why not fixed?
Hi All,

I am using CD 1.06 with 3dvision and an XFX GTX280 XXX edition, commonly used I think it's fair to say. I'm using Vista Ultimate x86 (under duress, because 3dvision aint working with anything else!) and have SERIOUS framerate issues when I enable the lasersight in a number of First Person Shooters (Half Life 2 series for example). My FPS drops to about 25% of what is is without 3d lasersight, and just wondering how to get around this? I need 3d lasersight as I simply cannot play without it (can't aim), yet I cannot play with it either without making my games run ghastly.

I know I am not the first to have this issue, but can I please ask if:-

1) Anyone knows of any hack or workaround yet to fix this.
2) NVidia are aware of this and working on a fix for the next release?

There is simply no reason why the performance should be impacted by this to this extent whatsoever. It is a simple case of firing a ray straight forward, getting its interception point and calculating the 2d distance between the L/R crosshairs in the centre of the screen - very, very simple (I am a 3d programmer), so how on earth could this be impacting the frame rate so much? It is clearly a development fault as 3d works flawlessly and super-quickly without 3d crosshairs enabled, but then this becomes impossible to play.

I play FPS games almost exclusively and it seems devastating such a small, simple issue is stopping me from using my 3dvision as intended when I forked out the cash for it :(

Can someone PLEASE help me - Nvidia, could one of your techies please post on this topic as this is a pretty serious issue! :-o

Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh man, that's brutal - I haven't noticed even a 1 percent performance drop from enabling the nvidia crosshair. Not sure what to say, since I haven't run into that situation yet, but damn.

Nvidia, any help here please? I know these issues have been brought up in the past, surely there must be a simple solution?

Cheers,
Chris J

I know Andrew posts on here sometimes, but it is a user-based forum. You might find a resolution more quickly by calling Nvidia support. Is it in one specific game or a lot of them? I tried HL2 ep2 a couple days ago and found it had the same slowdown issue, but I play some games (l4d) that don't seem to have a noticeable performance impact when enabling the lasersight. It may be game specific.

Cheers, will do. I think you may be right, it seems the Valve games in particular suffer this problem - will try with some others and report my findings.

Thanks for the advice :)

Right on. I will say, it works like a champ in Oblivion. It might just be fast since it's an "older game" now, but that game is a good example and hope of it not being a driver issue. :)

Any luck with this issue? I am having the same problem with TF2 slowing down by about 30% when the crosshair is enabled.
