How to play Heavy Metal FAKK2 in 3D using 3D Vision
released 8/2000 by Ritual Entertainment
Engine Quake III Arena (with Ritual's ÜberTools)
This is comfirmed working using Windows 7 64bit and driver version 332.21 with a 120Hz 3D Vision monitor. Output is Frame Sequential only.
In the config.cfg file add/change the following
seta r_stereo "1"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_customwidth "1920"
seta r_customheight "1080"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta com_maxfps "120"
seta cg_stereoSep "4.6"
I haven't been able to figure out a way to adjust depth and since the game is using OpenGL, you can not use the hot keys to adjust convergence or take screen shots.
cg_stereosep adjusts convergence, you can adjust the values in game via the console. You can enable the console by checking the appropriate box in the game's options menu.
****This also works for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Return to Castle Wolfenstein.....(for these games use cg_stereoSeparation), American McGee's Alice....(use cg_stereoSep)
Note: This is without using GLDirect. If you have the dll installed, remove it. I've never been able to get GLDirect to work, I think it is only compatible with Vista 32 bit and certain older drivers, I've no idea. Here's a few links to threads about using it, if you have an older setup

EDIT: Some old games can be played in 3D using Windows XP. You'll need to use old drivers that came out prior to 3D Vision glasses being made. So you'll need to use a crt plus something like e-dimensional glasses/Or a projector with DLP Link/manufacturer glases/ Or a line interlaced display using a Zalman EDID override.

Keep in mind that these games get altered by GOG and Steam and may no loner work. This was a disc version.

I was a bit surprised that this one worked because it has a voodoogl.dll and 3dfxgl.dll in the main folder. Keep in mind that for a few years Nvidia's drivers stopped supporting quad buffering, so OpenGL games wouldn't/couldn't work after support was dropped. It was re-enabled in the 3XX drivers at some point, prior to that some users were able to get these games to work using GLDirect. The link to those threads are in the prior post.

is there a way to play this game with interlaced mode? I have a LG 3d monitor with the interlaced fix and 3dvision works well. but r_stereo 1 gives me an opengl error. I tried starting this game with gldirect but even if 3dvision starts the image seems 2d.

Hello there,
If you run into crashes when patching to 1.02, under win7, in certain german users, do the follwing:
patch manually with this patch:
http://www.moddb.com/games/heavy-metal-fakk-2/downloads/heavy-metal-fakk-patch-102-manual
the txt says that the german version (which always crashes) had been delivered as 1.02, but that seems not to be true. The exe from the patch (which is slightly older then the german exe) will make the game run under win7.
