1 / 2
It seems like HDMI 1.4b specs has been released , although not public yet
http://www.hdmi.org/ (look at 10/11/2011 announcement)

I have read in this forum that it wil be able of 1080p 120Hhz
http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1038021752&postcount=39

Anybody can confirm it or has some additional info?, It would be amaizing to play with nvidia 3d vision in a proyector at 1080p 120Hz!!

Faster HDMI chips have already been made, i know that. They were offered for sampling like 6 months ago, but i've not heard anything more than that

Maybe Nvidia could organize some planes to fly over major TV and monitor manufacturers with the sign: "Hey YOU! Ya YOU! Lets hustle with the new HDMI chips, comon, get it together!" You could do it for like a week, that would be funny.

I can't imagine that they would call this 1.4b. Since you need completely new hardware, I'd call this 1.5 at least, if not HDMI 2.0. This would be the first major redesign since the first specification of HDMI.

I don't know, because for now, I think it only benefits 3D PC gamers -who are also using HDMI based equipment instead of PC monitors, a relatively small group of people i would guess.

is Dual link DVI and/or Display port not capable of 1080p 120Hhz already?

Yes, sure, but HDMI is equivalent to single-link DVI.

No, it would also benefit us 3D filmmakers. Even more so than gamers, probably, since we are more likely to need to test our videos on a TV, while not every gamer needs that. At least I don’t think every gamer does (I am not a gamer, so please correct me if I am out of line). Now, I suppose there are not many of us either.

But it would also benefit everyone who watches 3D movies and videos (as opposed to making them), and that is a potentially large group of people. Probably larger than our two groups (gamers and filmmakers) combined.

So, a 120 Hz 1080p HDMI would be a really welcome major development for a lot of people.

Are you making The Hobbit or working on the Titanic by chance? /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Btw, is the film industry largely aware that the 3D depth in films is not fully realistic and that more depth can give the sensation that your in the scene? It also can enable a viewer to totally resolve the correct dimensionality of objects for educational purposes, like a show on medieval cathedrals or cave systems. Full 3D depth also gives a true sense of distance, coming in handy to give a proper sense of height when standing on the edge of a cliff, or viewing a skyscraper for example.

I made a video to demonstrate fully realistic 3D depth the other day. You'll have to give yourself a 70'ish degree FOV to the screen to see it properly. Don't even bother watching it in anything but 1080p.

HDMI sucks....

Handshake issues, nuf said

Hopefully it'll be a completely redesigned cable that's non backward compatible and has screws or a clip to hold the damn thing in.

There's enough people confused about their current cable line up. How many people go to the store and ask for a HDMI 1.4 cable, well there's no such thing.

Changes for Cables Effective Immediately
Adopters may no longer use HDMI version numbers in the labeling, packaging, or promotion of any cable product. This is effective immediately for any references to the HDMI Specification Version 1.4, and Adopters have a one-year grace period for removing references to earlier versions of the HDMI specification when describing their cables.

Limited Use of Version Numbers for Non-Cable Products
Effective as of January 1, 2012, all non-cable products cannot make any reference to HDMI version numbers. Until that time Adopters can use HDMI version numbers only when the feature or features associated with that HDMI version number is clearly specified. For instance, a manufacturer can describe a product as featuring "HDMI® v.1.4 with Audio Return Channel and HDMI Ethernet Channel," but may not describe a product as being "HDMI® v.1.4 compliant."

Now they must be called/labeled as one of the folowing

Standard HDMI Cable / Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet / High Speed HDMICable / High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet / Standard Automotive HDMI Cable

Yes, it is aware. But then, we don’t go to movies to see reality. We go there to escape from it. /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

But, i would argue that realistic levels of 3D perception would further immerse the viewer into that unreality. /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> If you watch my short video, which provides realistic 3D depth, i think you'll agree. Do you work on Hollywood films by chance?

Only makes sense that the HDMI Cash Printing Group would want to push a new standard, gotta keep that money train moving to sell new hardware right? :)

I'd love to see 1080p@60Hz in S3D and I'm pretty sure they need to increase HDMI spec/bandwidth to support the new 4Kx2K HDTVs we've been hearing about for the last few years so it seems plausible. I guess S3D will always be resigned to roughly half the resolution or frame rates of the 2D resolution as long as the HDMI Money Fund take a de minimis approach with their specifications. More likely scenario would be a new HDMI spec to support 4K/2K first, then another spec to support 1080p/60 in S3D. More specs = more HDTVs and AV equipment sold y'know. :)

Ya know I love upgrading my computer (when I can afford to do so and the right performance/economics is right), because it's similar to playing an RPG game where you tweak this or that, but I loathe when I have to upgrade my TV or Receiver. Your always back at zero, starting over.
