3d hdtv for pc gaming, will it work?
  1 / 2
Shopping for 3d hdtv for my computer, from what I understand to make a 3d tv work with a nvidia gpu I need to buy Nvidia's 3dtv Play ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-overview.html ) and that I need a specific 3dtv,

I'm wondering how often they update there listings of compatible tvs.
Was looking to buy this fairly new Panasonic Viera ( http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TC-P50UT50-50-Inch-Plasma/dp/B00752VKFK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1333243093&sr=1-1 ) will this work for 3d pc gaming?

Hoping someone out there knows more about this. Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forums!

We are constantly working on adding support to new TV's, The list does get updated on a semi regular basis after we have added support for a handful of 3D TV's.

Currently this TV is not supported unfortunately, though if you did go ahead and purchase you can submit some information to get this TV added to the list for support by contacting us via our support channel: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/utils/login_form/redirect/ask

If we are able to add support for this specific TV, it would be added in a future driver release.

I know there are hiccups and regressions at times with some displays, but we are always working on the issues reported by people as we get them.

If you could explain what it is you are having issues with or what reported problem it is I could help out... No need to be so negative /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Panasonic is a particularly bad choice for 3D gaming as it is incompatible with 3D Vision. You want to avoid 3DTV Play and its gross 1280x720 low res scaled images and get a 3DTV that supports 3D Vision's 1920x1080 native res. Worse, 3DTV Play forces you into framepacking mode, a mode is designed to not be used for PC graphics. Wrong 3D mode and low res are the double curse of 3DTV Play.
On the other hand, some samsung models and all Mits DLP support 3D Vision's native res 1920x1080 checkerboard mode making these 3DTVs the only way to get full image quality on a 3DTV.

Most importantly, know that the so-called "requirements" of displays on the 3D Vision list is woefully incomplete as most in the forum are using 3DTVs that are not on the list. This misleading info has led many people to purchase the wrong TV, so beware.

Hello Everyone,

I am planning to buy a Sharp LC80LE844 3d HDTV.( has side by side mode & top and bottom mode )
Currently using 2 GTX580 3GB in SLI

Will I be able to use 3D vision with this TV?
Will I be able to use 3D vision at 1080p?
Which shutter glasses should I purchase?

Any other comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I purchased an avr from the list of supported devices and I don't believe it takes 2 months to test my config. In my experiance, that is done in a level 1 lab not by a qa team as I was told. How long does it really take to test a config when it's all "compatable" equipment? I can pass 1080 framepacking through it except for my gts450 and my pj syncs but all that is there is a black 3d screen. Negitive because I've had the if we can conferm canned level one response!

I am curious, how can a standard HDMI 1.4 3DTV "not" be supported. I thought the whole point of HDMI 1.4 was to provide a common universal format and make sure any Hdmi 1.4 compliant source could output to any Hdmi 1.4 compliant display.
Can you give us some technical details as to why this isn't working with 3DTV play ?

All 3D TV support is enabled per device based on the EDID info of that specific display, these are supported specifically via driver updates when support is added for each display.

If a 3D TV works and the model is not listed, it is likely due to similar EDID to an already supported device.

[Incident: 120219-000050] It's a pioneer vsx-921-k is there any reason the first level 1 tech wanted a bin on the pj instead of the reciever?

Obtaining the EDID bin info on the projector while connected to the AVR helps identify any issues of the AVR not passing through the correct info.

Looks like we were unable to reproduce this issue in house, So I suspect the root of this issue to be else where.

Which brand HDMI cables are you using to go from the PC to the AVR, and from the AVR to the HDTV.

Also what is the length of these HDMI cables, if they are over 20ft are they active HDMI cables?

All the cable are volo high speed with ethernet. the patch is 6' and the one to the pj is 24'. The 24' is not active and why would it have to be when it works fine with every other source except for the gts450? Next question is, why wasn't I contacted when they said it didn't fail on your end? All I have done to troubleshoot. Reload software, replaced motherboard processor and new gts450. I called the cable manufacturer and they laughed...

Signal degradation, fine for stand alone players, basic video output to different sources. But there is a big difference on the data being transmitted for 3D content vs standard non 3D content.

I know you are frustrated and I completely understand, This issue has gone on for awhile I can see that. But with a 24' non active HDMI cable, i would highly suggest trying it with a cable 10' or shorter as im guessing thats what is causing this issue you are having.

This isn't my first rodeo, I knew that was coming so I pulled my pj and used a 6' cable and still a black 3d screen. I was thinking about a hdmi detective, bet if I spoofed the edid it would work. The 2 video cards tested was an asus and a new evga this time, needed sli anyhow.

here is what I was asked and you asked for the pj only, not in series. The only constants here are a nvidia, pioneer avr and the epson pj. The htpc was rebuilt so it's not a hardware issue. 3dtv play and nvidia gts450 are the constants here. I really don't want the hastle of small claims but I will go there if I'm forced... This is not my issue and I will prove it!

Hello Robb,

Can you please send me the projector EDID info in a .bin format? Also when in the NVIDIA Control Panel, do you see the TV and AVR as available display devices in the "Set up Stereoscopic 3D" settings?

Thanks

Josh

Ive pinged our QA team again to look into this further, though we were unable to reproduce this previously. So Im not sure where the disconnect is as far as functionality, I've been doing everything within my power to try and get this resolved.

Are you local to the SF Bay Area?
