Official 337.50 Beta Driver Feedback Thread
SteveK, first I would like to echo others that have thanked you for being active in this forum and for showing us that NVIDIA still has at least some interest in 3D. I would appreciate it if you would look into one bug that I have been dealing with for 2 months now and is present in all drivers that support my 780 Ti's. The combination of 3D Vision, SLI and Win 8.1 make for very bad experience. I have gotten around it in some games by forcing vsync off in NVIDIA Inspector and using frame limiter. ManuelG was responding to me at one point and even stated no too long ago that it would be fixed in the next driver (this was prior to this driver being released). But it still exists for me. I posted some details about my testing in the following post: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/679611/official-nvidia-334-67-beta-display-driver-feedback-thread-released-1-27-14-/?offset=176#4106404 Would you be able to check on this item? Also, with these drivers, I cannot seem to find a way to get AC4 to not be a stuttery mess with 3D Vision compatibility mode enabled. If I switch to standard 3D the picture is a mess but my frame rates are stable. As soon as I switch to comparability mode my frame rates drop and are very unstable and just moving the camera causes a lot of stutter. The behavior is much like what I have had with GRID2 and Tomb Raider. But, the vsync "fix" does not seem to resolve the issue. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I've just picked up AC4 in the Uplay sale and have a similar but less powerful system than yours (I have 2x 770s). I am not seeing (yet) the kind of stuttering or performance loss that you are with the compatibility mode on - does it get worse at a particular point in the game? I am Win7 though, so your being on Win8.1 might be the issue. My main feedback on the AC4 compatibility mode is unfortunately quite negative - it's pretty awful. I have said very positive things in this thread about AC3, because apart from low depth it looks pretty good. Unless things improve later in game, all I am seeing with AC4 is a flat 2d plane at somewhat low depth into the screen. Increasing convergence to get some sense of separation/depth between objects almost immediately hits the front wall of flattening out the scene and distorting everything really badly. I don't see how anyone could possibly play this game in CM mode. And I also can't think of any reason why its so different to AC3, it's the same game engine. If my experience improves in later scenes I will report back. **EDIT Its worse than I first looked. Increasing convergence makes the whole scene judder in and out, which I suspect is what Jason20910 reported in the first place :-) I changed the profile in Nvidia Inspector to AC3 and it solves the problem, though there are other rendering anomalies in the menu screens, the hud text jitters around more etc, but otherwise it's the same degree of rendering quality as AC3 - i.e you can increase convergence (to the limit before it goes flat).

That issue is almost definitely tied to Win 8.1. I have found no one reporting that issue on Win 7 or Win 8.0. I also after further playing around noticed the judder in and out issue when increasing convergence. But, even with very low convergence I still get very poor and inconsistent frame rates. I may be getting 35-40 fps and then toggle CM off and steady 60 fps. I may just have to bite the bullet and go back to Win 7. They have gradually improved Win 8 with desktops and I do like the syncing features since I have a Surface Pro 2. I like the consistency between my Pro and my desktop.

I cannot get AC3 to launch without freezing almost immediately in 3D surround. 1920x1080 3D works with no problem (real and CM), and 2D surround launches with no problem (3D Vision disabled in NVidia Control Panel.) However, 3D surround freezes at the first "This work of fiction..." screen. Removing the profile via NVidia inspector was no help, and adding the exe to the AC4 profile at least got the game to the main menu, but at that point, I only got sound and a frozen screen. I know 3D Surround is not supported in CM. But I still thought that real 3D should function properly (even tho its unplayable without the new fix). Any other 3D surround users have a similar experience? I am using driver 337.50, and this is unrelated to the 3Dmigoto fix as this problem became evident before installing the fix.

You're asking for feedback, well here's feedback. Fake 3D was crap when it came out, is still crap today, and will still be crap in 10 years. Assist developers who are interested in implementing proper 3D, and don't waste time with this vulgar parody of stereoscopy. I'm boycotting games that don't work properly in 3D at the same level as those which only work with fake 3D.

I'm already familiar with Helifax's method which works fine on AC4. However, an additional problem with AC3 is that i have no option to change the resolution in game. It does not appear in the graphics settings menu. I don't know why, and have tried googling for solutions. It seems others have that issue too, but there is no solution that works for me. The only way I can change resolution is manually in the ini file, and therefore Helifax's method doesn't help in this case. Any other 3D surround gamers out there with this same problem? I think I'm going to try some older drivers and see if that helps.

@SteveK@NVIDIA When you assist the developers do you ever discuss 3D depth and convergence? Will you suggest trying out 100% depth please? Thanks!

@Andysonofbob I am sure a developer is aware of when a game has issues but just chooses not to fix it or even hide it tbh. Every game with a convergence lock is for a reason. [Except the ones that are renderers that let you change it]

So no-one wants to comment on my pCars pictures using AC4 CM 3D? They actually look pretty good if you ask me. Not flat and miles better than the current "broken" proper 3D. I am constantly on thier forums asking for proper 3DVision support, but the crickets are a chirping. Without at least this CM mode, I couldn't play it properly in 3D. Whilst I am hoping for a proper 3DVision implementation, I am starting to have my doubts that its coming. Personally, I am thankful to at least have this option. Please check out the shots I posted a link to earlier.

You got to be open minded imo. Yes alot of games are bad with depth buffer. Maybe even most. Huds are extremely annoying and some games have more distortion then others. Some games are alright. I do agree though its kind of lame that you got to put up with a lot of garbage to find one thats good though. The Splinter Cell video I saw posted on live looks pretty good. Not perfect but pretty good. http://www.3dvisionlive.com/ugc/26691/splinter-cell-blacklist
