Steam, games without profiles and 3D Vision Renaming exe as quick fix not an option
Hello,
I have a problem I have run into a few times now. I really like the game service Steam and I think digital distribution is the way to go.
The problem I have is when a new game is released, a game there is not yet any 3d vision profile for. Recently is Mass Effect 2. For example I would like the Nvidia crosshair going with 3d effects. Users on this forum suggests I rename the exe to masseffect.exe instead. Steam will not allow this.
Are there other options in order to make 3d vision treat Mass Effect 2 as mass effect for now (until a proper profile is released)?
Ways I could think of was to try and find the profile for mass effect in the registry and copy the keys to the mass effect 2 entry. I have not been able to find mass effect in the registry though...
Maybe there is a way to point the mass effect 2 entry to the mass effect entry?

Have you tried making a copy of MassEffect2.exe named MassEffect.exe, instead of renaming and then starting that copy manually (not launching from steam)? I might try this later today, but tbh I'm quite used to aiming between the 2 crosshairs, or just closing an eye for shooting ;)

Yeah I tried this. Steam somehow gets this and launches the correct exe anyway. As it loads it still says it has an unknown profile.

I had the same problem with the nvidia crosshair not working until i renamed a shortcut to masseffect.exe and although it stated the game as unknown it did actually fix it and now works as it should. this is the steam version too!

Hi Guys
We will take a look at this problem on Monday. We sometimes find Steam versions of the game have different EXE names than the retail copies.

Hello, maybe this is an old post but I'm having the same issue here. Almost all my games are Steam and the control panel lists them as not installed. It does list steam as installed though. Geforce experience does find them so maybe there's a good starting point.
Best regards
Pablo

I think it's just easier to use NVidia Inspector now.

You can change which profile a given game is using, without renaming the exe.

Having same problem here. NVidia control panel doesnt detect Steam games as instaled games (when selected the option to show only instaled games).
