Share your pile of shame! I'd like to think seeing everyone else's will make me feel better about mine, but somehow I suspect that's not going to happen... Playing: Hotline Miami 2 The Witcher 2 Grim Fandango Remastered "To Play" AC: Unity Alien Isolation Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs (hoping the eye sync issue is sorted, or I can find a version of the game that works with the fix) The Book of Unwritten Tales The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles The Bureau: XCom Declassified Divinity: Original Sin Dragon Age: Inquisition Dreamfall Chapters Far Cry 4 The Journey Down, Chapter 2 Lords of the Fallen Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor Ori and the Blind Forest Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments This War of Mine (hoping I can fix it for 3D) Valiant Hearts "On Hold" (for various reasons - incomplete episodic titles, early access, waiting/hoping for a 3D fix) Broforce Broken Age Dark Souls 2 (waiting for the upgraded version coming in a month or so) Kentucky Route Zero MGS 5: Ground Zeroes Saint's Row: Gat Out Of Hell Tales from the Borderlands Then I've got my Steam wishlist, which I'll almost certainly buy out during the next sale: Apotheon AC Rogue Arkham Knight Dying Light Frozen Cortex GTA 5 Grow Home Life is Strange Oblitus Oddworld: New N Tasty Republique Remastered Ryse: Son of Rome Shiftlings Sunless Sea The Talos Principle ...wow, that list is ridiculous. But it's fantastic that the vast majority of the games on this list are playable in 3D, thanks to the hard work of the people here. Of the 42 games on this list, I'll take away the 9 that are totally 2D, and Arkham Knight because it's unreleased. Of the remaining 32, at least 20 are either already fixed, or a likely fix is in the works. That's pretty great.

Wow, you're a light-weight, Pirate! If it even occurs to you to type yours out, then your shame is nowhere near complete, young grasshopper :D Mine is hundreds long. Unlike you, most of the games in my "to play" list aren't from 2014, but from anywhere as far back as 2010. As a matter of fact, one of my highly anticipated games of 2010 or so was The Ball. When it came out, I eagerly bought it. But guess when I finally got around to loading it up? Yup - this week while doing bo3b's shaderhacker tutorial. :/ NBA2K11 is still on my "looks aweseome - must play" list. But of course I won't, because I bought NBA2K13 at some sale two years later. And of course I'll never play that either, because NBA2K19 is just around the corner, so I'll just pick that up at a sale. I've gotten better at making less stupid purchases over the past year or so, so at least the rate of growth of my pile of shame has slowed. I'm slowly making peace with the fact that not only isn't there enough time to play every new good game, there's not even enough time to play every new exceptionally awesome game.

Just the other day i was thinking it was so good to let go of the though of having to finish every game i own. So i prefer to think i dont have a backlog, but a vault of games which i can dive into if i want to. Feels so supid to even think about how i turned my number one source of entertaiment into stressful experience. :D That ever happen to anyone? Felt like i was rushing through games just to start the next one and cross that off the checklist. And like Volnaiskra ive gotten better at my game purchases. I basically only buy a game if im gonna play it next. So good, enjoying games now more than ever.

tl;dp ... and that's just my '3D' backlog, my actual backlog goes as far back as the NES and spans just about every single console(+PC) since then sans PS4/XBOne ... I have bins and bins of consoles and games just waiting to be cracked open again. Lol. :) ... I just haven't had the time to game much lately, I'm usually a marathon gamer ... the last game I 'cracked open' was Dead Space 3 and I can't really play that with any sort of volume with the kids in the next room. I've resorted to using headphones and Razer Surround until I can get a decent USB surround headset.

I actually have "To Play" and "On Hold" categories in Steam, to keep track of what I want to play through. Otherwise I'd never touch half of what I buy. While I don't tend to rush games, I do play quite a bit, so I complete games at a decent pace. This year, I've finished off: AC Black Flag Deadcore Defense Grid 2 Depth (multiplayer - played enough that I feel "done" with it) Evolve (same) Five Nights at Freddy's Freedom Planet Mind: Path to Thalamus Never Alone Outlast Shovel Knight The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Walking Dead Season 2 I've slowed down my buying patterns a bit though, so I mostly wait for sales. But I can't resist a good sale, and my wishlist is almost always cleaned out on every major Steam sale.

I am not making a list, but from my over 540 games, I bought in the last 2-3 years a lot of course need to be played through. The majority of the games is on Steam - check out my profile, if you are I interested -, plenty are on Origin and Uplay or Battlenet. I even bought some games without a platform or Windowslive (kind of no-platform). When it comes to reflect about my own gaming habit, I have to say I mostly play on Steam. I try only to buy games for Uplay on Steam, so that I am more motivated to play them. Origin games with good Singleplayer are mostly played through (like Battlefield, Medal of Honour, Mass Effect). The Multiplayer part of those games I ignored kind of, especially when it comes to Battlefield due their Browser Starting Policy. Games with no platform or Windowslive, I do not play at all and I try not to buy them anymore. Even that I have them connected to my Steam Account, I do not give them much time after first installment. I guess it is the reason that Windowslive updates every single time I start such a game and especially that I do not have a time account that shows me how much I played (love this addicting and self controlling feature on Steam). Overall, I have to admit, if I played a game for around 10 - 15 hours, I am more than happy and call it one of my favourites. Games like Skyrim or Diablo 3, where I put hundreds of hours in, are an exception and of course a total different league. I try to uphold my rule to have one hour playtime for one euro of the price. I guess this is fair enough for my short play schedule after work. Another rule is, only to buy games with a 75% or if I am fancing it a lot 50% reduction. There are only a handfull games I purchase actually on release (recently: CodAW + Seasons Pass, GTAV - stil not avaible. ;)) Considering that I started a second playthrough for some of my favourite 3D vision games, I guess it will take me very long to work up my backlog. But it is fine for me as my curiosity for installing and starting a new game plays an important role for me in this hobby. I recently purchased the NewNintendo3DSXL with Mario Kart (3d effect of some of the demos is incredible good) and a WiiU with Mario Kart 8. I will try not to buy to many games for them as they are very expensive, but for some relaxing rounds on the canapé they are perfect.

If it wasn't for the Steam sales I wouldn't have a backlog. But $2.00 here, $2.00 there, and next thing you know there's a whole list of games to play.

For me, it got to the stage where I would sometimes purposely play a game that looked crap but had somehow ended up in my library, just in the hope that I could confirm I don't like it and remove it from my "to play" list (yay! 1 down, only 999 to go!). In other words, the compulsion to grind that damn list down started becoming more important than the fun of playing the games. I think the problem boils down to this: we get a large dopamine hit when we play a game that we enjoy, but we also get a large dopamine hit when we buy a game, because acquiring things makes us feel good (probably due to how important gathering was in our evolution - arguably much more important than hunting, since in most primitive societies, some 80% of the food came from gathering). The problem of course is that playing a game takes hours, while buying a game takes minutes. Furthermore, the dopamine hit from buying a game is more instant and more reliable than from playing the game (which may or may not be fun, or may be a slow burner that requires heavy time or emotional investment). Given that a significant part of our brain is constantly trying to push us into situations that will raise our dopamine in the most efficient manner, it's no surprise that we end up buying more games than we can play. Of course if the result was just lots of dopamine, that would probably be fine, but we also get all the other crap: guilt, annoyance, stress caused by too many options (does anyone else find it stressful to choose which game to start next?), and the disappointing awareness of how easily manipulated we can be. I agree that treating your games library like a dusty vault that you visit only when you feel like it is more freeing in the long run than treating it like a todo list that is constantly breathing down your neck.

My backlog is so long I made a "playlist" category in Steam. Then that started getting out of hand, so I made a "playlist - high" category. Then that started getting out of hand, so I made a "playlist - very high" category. Now that category is starting to get a bit long as well... TBH most games I actually play aren't even on those lists - it's either new game's I've just bought and actually want to play, early access games I'm following that have just received updates (which have their own "playlist - upcoming" category), or games that have trading cards to drop (if they're good I'll play them, otherwise I idle them).
trading cards
https://github.com/jshackles/idle_master Very useful. I've made a fair amount back on my Steam purchases by selling off cards, particularly if you get a foil in the early days of a game's release. Recently made $12 from a foil card for Ori.

My backlog of just 3D fixed games looks like a lifetime supply for me at my current play rate. :-> It's crazy epic that we have so many great games in 3D. The number I watch is my Avg completion Rate, at 40%. Yikes! Got plenty to play already, no question. I used to worry about it too, but gave up on that awhile back by observing that it's all entertainment, and if the current shizzle amuses me, then I keep playing it. I just finished Remember Me for the second time on the hardest level, and found it spectacular in 3D. Playing through twice will definitely hurt the completion rate, but I wasn't quite 'done' with that game. So beautiful with the fix. One thing that changed my buying habits though- GameSpy taking a header, and GFWL being off-again/on-again. This really woke me up to the tenuous nature of our 'ownership'. If they start running into financial trouble, for whatever reason, you can be sure they will summarily pull the plug on the servers. Because of that train of though, I'm no longer interested in hoarding my games, no matter how good the sale. Unless I plan to play it right away, I'm not buying. It'll either be cheaper in the future, or require playing as Edward Kenway if they disappear altogether. If some dev makes the right choice and supports 3D with us, I buy it though. More like voting for the people that support me.

Yeah, I managed to get a foil for Retrovirus (good game in 3D BTW) in the early days and got $16 for it. Thing is - most of the games I have still to get cards for came from various bundles, and if I auto-idle them there is basically no chance I will ever play them. At least if I manually run them to get the cards I can check out if they are any good, then decide whether they are worth playing or not. And I decided long ago that I would only use the profits from the trading cards to increase my Steam level (I might stop once there are no more profile showcases that interest me), so I'm not all that interested in trying to get top dollar.

It is surprising how the quantity adds up. I'm just under 500 games on Steam and close to 100 on disc. The last game I just finished was Fantastic 4 (2005). While not a great game, it toyified nicely and has some fun combo moves. The 3D was a bit of a mess whenever the letterboxed text sequences would pop up, but was flawless otherwise. Another thing is that the camera was buggy during boss fights. I was able to complete it, even though I couldn't find a patch for the game. ATM waiting to get a new GPU (hopefully next month)to play Ryse Son of Rome and The Evil Within. Going to try setting up a Legacy 3D Vision rig to see if 3D works on some older games in the next few days.
Avg completion Rate, at 40%
I believe that's based off achievements. There's plenty of games where getting 40% of the achievements would mean you'd completed it (maybe not played multiplayer, or collected all the macguffins). So that's actually not bad, I'd think. Mine's 37%.
