I am looking to do my monitors in portrait, however, they do not support 3d in portrait mode (samsung s27a750). Are there any monitors which support 3d in portrait mode?

What do you mean by portrait mode? Do you mean a non widescreen resolution or are you actually talking about turning your monitor on its side and having the picture be vertical.
If its the second one, I didn't even think you could do that anymore since they lost that functionality in Nvidia's move from XP to Vista.

You can't use 3D in portrait on any active LCD monitor, it's a technical limitation.
The light fom the monitor is polarized and it means when you rotate the monitor 90 degrees, you just get no image through the glasses. Nvidia could design glasses to work in portrait mode, but they would only work in portrait mode.
It does work on projectors.

You should be able to rotate the polarisation of the light by adding a half-wave retarder film in front of the glasses to make the light enter the glasses properly.
I haven't tested this type of setup, but I expect issues. First with the nvidia software (I don't know if the software will even allow you to activate the monitor in portrait mode. Then there might also be some brightness uniformity issues (most 3D monitors use TN panels which are not ideal for portrait usage).

Yes theoretically you could use a 1/4 wave retarder infront of the glasses or the screen to "fix" the issue, you could even theoretically do it dynamically with another layer of Liquid crystal.
But the driver prevents 3D from functioning in portrat mode on active LCD monitors.

Actually I have been able to get Portrait 3x1 to work with my ASUS CUII 7970 & Three Samsung S27A750s with tridef DDD. However, the only game I have been able to make work was Mafia II and crossfire was broken so my Frame rates were low (in the 30s). I could see if I tilted my head 30 degrees so that 1/4 polarization film just may work.
For the record I own Two 7970s and one Evga 680GTX so I am not a fanboi of either side...please don't flame me on the AMD card usage as I want to keep this an open portrait 3d discussion.
My goal would be to have a 5x1 setup like this in 3D. I know amd is the only company that allows 5x1 as this time, but who knows Nvidia could add the feature too!

There should be 0 issues moving your monitors into portrait.
A. It looks better
B. you get more usage of your monitors
C. Why in the world would you not allow it.
