Guys. I really need help. JUST bought a ViewSonic PJD6531 Projector. Having a few issues. Please
  1 / 3
So I'm giving the old projector division a good ol' college try, and am trying to connect it to my Nvidea GTX480 equipped, quad core, vista 64, 6 gig ram computer. I'm hoping that moving to a projector will provide the immersion, coolness, and likeability in 3d that many others are saying projectors provide. If it doesn't look that great...I'll just go back to my good ol' Monitor. Anyway, here's my issue...

I JUST bought a ViewSonic PJD6531w Projector for about 750 bucks at fry's and also bought a $140 100 inch or so screen.

-- At first, I connected to my computer using an HDMI cable. Technically, the back of the 480GTX says SVideo on the label and has a Mini HDMI (uhh ok...confusing), so I used a mini hdmi cable to "regular" hdmi and connected that to my projector. The projector worked fine, I ran WOW and some games with a little bit of weird "tearing or wtvr" effects, but it looked pretty good.

-- I then tried to load up Resident Evil 5. It worked fine in 2d. Well a few "ripples" but perhaps that is from my being new and not tweaking settings yet...anyway... Then i hit the little green "turn 3d on button" on my adapter from Nvidea...and the screen DID look like it was working since it had double images. I put my glasses on and realized that the double images were there, but my glasses didnt "activate". Then i noticed that when i go to the nvidea control panel the projector said 3d Discover for 3d mode and not 3d vision. Obviously I don't want that cheezy 3d version.

--- So I then realized a few things....Firstly, it seems as if my projector cannot change to 120 hz refresh rate, and remains at 60. Viewsonics tech support guy is telling me that you can't even use 3d vision if you connect with HDMI. Ok fair enough, but why can't i get my setting to go to 120hz? cuz i used hdmi? The tech said using hdmi it should go to 120. Perhaps I missed a setting?

--- Since 3d vision CANNOT work with hdmi cords, Viewsonic's tech then told me that I need use a VGA adapter to connect to the back of the projector, as you cannot have 3d w hdmi and ONLY w vga. oooook....so I get in my car...drive to Fry's, they close at 9...i show up at 1015...convince the store manager to let my buy a DVI to Vga adapter and a 10 foot dvi cord...and then i head home...

--- I then connect the projector to the back of my computer using one of the two Dvi ports...once at the projector the cable has an adapter that goes into vga and I hit the back of the projector with a vga cable. Aaaaaand, nothing shows up on the projector. The monitor which is connected to the other DVI port works well, but the projector has no image. SO my projector is showing images when connected with hdmi, but that supposedly cannot run 3d vision. Then I use dvi to vga...and nothing shows up.

I'm not rich, but am thinking of springing to have a Geek Squad kid come over here for 250 bucks and just try and hook it all up correctly.

I mean simply put this sounds like, "Well...GTX480 is 3d vision ready and worked on my 22" monitor from Viewsonice for 3 months, the projector is 3d ready ....I should just connect the two and it works"

Help and thoughts please fellow 3d'ers !

Make sure that windows is detecting the new display. Over VGA the detection may not be so automatic. Right click on the desktop and go to screen resolution or go to the control panel and go to display. Then go to adjust resolution. which is in the sidebar (if through control panel).

Now you can see if your projector is detected and be sure to make it the primary display if it is detected.

I have done all of this. After now spending 2 hours browsing these forums and posting (see recent bumped and replied to posts with redmantab) it sure seems as if this projector...while on the list of compatible projectors, does NOT work w Nvidia 3d Vision. I'm not exactly thrilled over here

Just use the Acer 5360 EDID override monitor.inf, look at the Optoma thread for HD66 on these Nvidia 3d vision forums.
And yet again another authorised projector up the clappers.

ok thank you SO much for your assistance. Couple questions....when I do this will my projector work as expected with current drivers from Nvidea? Or is this a "mickey mouse rig" that will result in a half-assed outcome? Lastly, would i connect to my gtx480 with the hdmi cable or my dvi-vga w adapter cable?

THANKS!!

It should all work as intended after you do this, I can use DVI-HDMI or DVI-VGA.
I'm using the latest beta drivers 1.27.

How I do it is install the Nvidia driver, than install the monitor.inf.
I don't need to run the Nvidia 3D setup at all but you can if you want to.
Nothing Mickey mouse or half assed about it on my setup, everything is as the 3D gods intended :)

ok so if you read my initial post at the top, I also have a problem linking my projector to my computer when i use the DVI-vga connection. The mini hdmi from the back of my 480 card to hdmi into the back of the projector works fine (minus 3d vision so far), but when I use Dvi-VGA i cant even get my projector to show the image from my computer, it just shows the viewsonic birds screen.

1 - Why wont dvi-vga show anything. Is that a setting issue?

2 - Since mini hdmi to hdmi into my projector DOES "link" the projector to my computer, can I connect using that cable AND use 3d vision? If not...then I need number 1 to work right?

3 - I take it you ARE obviously posting here cause you ARE using my projector in 3d vision...correct? Is this at the 1200x1000 or wtvr slightly higher setting in 3d?

Thanks so much. You are helping a ton !

Try the mini HDMI to HDMi connection I would say.
I'm not using your projector, I use the Optoma HD66 but your projector is a 720P@120hz for 3D like the rest of the current gen.
Give it a go you have nothing to loose, just use that monitor.inf reboot your pc then go select 1280x720 120hz then test the Nvidia 3D vision etc.

Actually just had a thought, have your tried a DVI-HDMI straight cable or DVI-HDMI adaptor than HDMI to the projector and not that mini HDMI connector at all?
You probably don't even need the monitor.inf as your projector is Nvidia compliant isn't it? I bet it's the whole mini HDMI thing screwing something but I could be wrong.

If you Look at a few of the other posts on this main page that have my comments, you will see that some other people using my EXACT projector are saying it doesnt work period. They tired all kinds of "fixes", old drivers etc. Perhaps after reading those you will tell me that I can't use this projector at all also?

Also, could I even buy a acer 5360 at a store or does it HAVE to be shipped to me? -- Really want to know htis one as well. I live in LA california

God flippin dang it!!! argghh.. I did exactly as above. I downloaded the driver to a folder on my desktop called acer. Then I go to my device manager and click on update driver, then on let me pick from an area on my comupter, then i browse and go to my desktop folder that has the acer driver inside of it and once i click......it says that windows has ALREADY determined that the best driver software for my device is already installed. I have even unistalled the recent driver from the cd and then tried doing your above steps again....but i cannot even update this driver someone help plz!!!

OKKKKK. I figured out a way to FORCE the drivers. MY projector is now CALLED an acer instead of a viewsonice, which i realize is part of the driver override.

3d WORKS!. I ran Resident Evil 5 and it looked pretty good. I have one last issue ...

HERE IS MY MAIN QUESTION Though FELLAS... it seems like I have ONE problem left. ..... Every time I run a game, or have anything where 3d vision is on I HAVE A HUGE MESSAGE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN IN RED THAT STAYS ON. It reads the following ,

" Warning: attempt to run stereoscopic 3d in non stereo display mode, please change to acceptable mode. See documentation for acceptable 3d modes"

Obviously I can't enjoy 3d vision having that up constantly on my projector. This must be coming from my override driver...correct? So what can I do to disable this message and use 3d? I'm SOOOO CLOSE. Just need this message to disappear. This also won't damage anythin will it?

Thanks again for EVERYTHING. Please help me on these last steps. Quite an aggravating journey but I'm close : )

Are you making sure you select 1280x720 for the resolution in the game?
Sometimes it will even let you select 120hz in the game resolution settings as well so make sure you do that too.
Also go to the set up stereoscopic 3D option in the Nvidia control panel then select test stereoscopic 3D
The new window that comes up should be a slider with the resolution select 1280x720 and tick 120hz in the refresh rate and select the "Apply this refresh rate to all games" then click apply.

But I think your just not selecting 1280x720 in the graphic options in game but the above can't hurt.

Also you are running 1280x720@120hz now for your dekstop aren't you? If not go select that as your resoltuion in the Nvidia control panel.
I select 1280x720@60hz for my resolution and when I do 3D it kicks into 120hz mode.
It won't damage anything by the way with the Nvidia message in red, this is just Nvidia being typical Nvidia and trying to control us.
As you seen your game was in 3D and working A OK.
