Newcomer 3D Vision user - How to adjust 3d vision in games ?
Hi guys. I'm already using 3D Vision for a week (The hype still live!). I have some doubts about how I should adjust depth and convergence.
In movies the depth is "fixed", in games you can adjust them. My main doubt is the best fit for convergence.
I just rented AVATAR 3D (Amazing, by the way!) And realized that the objects in the background are separated (one image for each eye) normally, but the objects in the front are swapped (The left eye is seeing the right image and vice versa = cross-eye).
* Should I adjust the convergence in games to give a cross-eye effect?
There are many posts on adjusting these settings but I have not seen any mention of cross-eye.
Also want to know if there is any problem with using cross-eye constantly (besides the headache. LOL)

Well I guess the simple answer is everyone is a bit different and it's totally subjective to what you are personally comfortable with.
Personally I practically always run at 100 percent depth and often even more using the depth hack, and I I always set convergence to bring out 3d as much as possible for things like toyification. basically as high as you can without the image separating.

Your eyes probably not used to stereo 3D and this cause the crosseye or double images in near objects. Some people are more sensitive to stereoscopic 3D and their eyes need more time to be used to high depth and high convergence.
Some movies use high convergence, usually most people can watch it comfortably, but some people may have cross eye and double image issues with this movies.

Best thing to do is not forcing your eyes, give it time. Watch the problematic movies later, after your eyes get used to S3D.
Start with low depth 20-30% and low convergence. Gradually increase them without getting too much discomfort.
Usually in 1-3 months your eyes can get used to max level of depth and high convergence values. For some people it may take longer.

I Wouldnt use seperation more than your ipd. And convergence i usually adjust by
Choosing Something onscreen and fixing the convergence for proper pop out. Like you go right as close to a tree and set the convergence value for the max popout you can handle or feel like the most suited for you

By default NVIDIA renders 3D by LEFT-RIGHT (The further the object, the greater the separation). I wish to know if i should increase convergence to change by RIGHT-LEFT.
When i say cross-eye i mean the process of seeing the right image on the left side of the screen and vice versa.
I currently use 20% depth and it does not give me a headache, but if I increase the convergence (keeping the depth) to change sides, it gives me a better 3d effect but it makes me feel strange in my eyes.

with 3d vision, instead of a flat image, the game is displayed as a cube. the depth setting decides the distance between the beginning and end of the cube. now, inside this cube, there is the zero-point. this is the spot where it looks like the image is 2d, no difference between left and right images. when you adjust the convergence, you move this zero-point back and forth within the cube. if you move the zero-point deeper inside the cube, it will look like there is more of the game that "comes out" of the monitor.
you're pushing some of the cube outside of your screen. we call this pop-out. this is what gives you the impression that left and right becomes reversed.
just look at any 2d image and cross your eyes out so that you see a double image. try and find how far you can split the images apart between both eyes. this is your "3d range" and you should adjust depth so that the double image you see without the 3d glasses isn't spread more widely than your personal 3d range. otherwise your eyes will be forced and that's how you get headaches.

Say that you character is standing between some bushes, whichever bush,branches, leaves, etc are the very closest to you, is were you would merge the image to touch.
For 3rd person with a distant camera, 100% depth can be used and in most cases, convergence can be set to the character.

I think it's because it's trying to make the muscles that would normally control my original biological lens work extra hard to compensate for the offset. Unfortunately, this is not possible on the lens implant that I have, so the muscles are trying to achieve what they can not, thus causing discomfort and pain.

The majority of discomfort when gaming in 3D, come from objects that only render in one eye. You must understand that the majority of games are not properly developed to work with stereoscopic gameplay.
What's awesome is, there are some extrodinary individuals in this community that have made stereoscopic compatibility patches for a large number of games.

lol. I mean... everyone has their little way of explaining how the 3d settings work. unbelievable that nVidia were never able to take a half hour to produce a simple document that shows all this stuff properly for the noobs.
