Setting Profiles + Convergence
  1 / 2
Hey guys, maybe this is a stupid post but I got my monitor and glasses all set up today and I see people talking about changing convergence for certain games in game profiles, I can't seem to find them. I have found 3D game settings in the nvidia control panel but it doesn't list games I have installed.

Thanks a lot for helping a 3d newb.

PS It all looks great, borderlands and l4d anyway. Glad I spent all that money to join you all heh ;P

As have read the button combinations ctrl+f5 and ctrl+f6 control convergence. There is no meter that comes up on screen to let you see where you setting is at in the manner you can with depth. Also, they say you have to hold the buttom combination and wait for a really long time before you will start to see things change.

I will be flat out honest with you … I have tried this over and over … I have never seen anything change in any manner whatsoever from holding those button combinations … and I have held them for upwards of a whole minuite. Played with having advanced settings and all … nothing.

I can disagree with that, played Command and Conquer 3 and it was terrible, cursor was aimed wrong, buildings were 3d but had ghosting so used convergence settings and the difference is massive, same with Burnout Paradise, there was ghosting on my car, changed the settings and its perfect.

You can disagree with the fact that when I tried to change my convergence settings nothing happened? Interesting. Can't remember you standing behind me.

I was simply saying 1) here is how you do it 2) it didn't work for me 3) here is a link to a thread that discusses it further including posts from people whom it worked for and posts from people whom it didn't work for.

Was just offering another opinion to the OP, no offence intended.

there are a few games where this convergence option is actually locked out. For instance Avatar and Resident Evil 5 have the convergence setting locked out. I myself don't hold the Ctrl+ f5 or f6 keys. I normally hold down the ctrl and tap the f5 or f6 as needed. the best way to see if it is working is by taking the glasses off and looking at the double images closer to the screen, normally of the character to see if it decreases.

Please make sure under SetKeyboard shortcuts that the advanced functions are enabled. Convergence settings are a must in most games.

MistaP don't forget to enable advanced in-game settings in "set keyboard shortcuts" in the Nvidia control panel... changing convergence in any game is like day and night.

Did it. Others have done it aswell and not gotten anything from it. I am wondering if it may be a complication bug glitch or whathaveyou due to advanced keyboards like the g19.

I know it works and the functionality is there. Simply not working out for me. It hasn’t been a huge concern for me anyway as the games I am using 3D Vision on run near flawlessly out of the box (and yes I am getting popout). BAA, RE5, STALKER … I want to say Fallout 3 but it magically has decided it doesn’t want to launch (best I can tell for reasons unrelated to 3D Vision and more to do with my move to Windows 7)

I really think Nvidia needs to do something to help make setting the convergence easier, or make better profiles for games. As awestruck as i was when i first fired up a 3d game on my new 60" the day it got here, the 3d effect was actually pretty underwhelming, compared to 3d effects i've seen in the past. Everything extended into the screen, and I felt like i was looking out a window. Kinda cool, but not as nice as when you have that bit of pop-out on close up items. the friends i let try it thought pretty much the same thing.

I was playing dark messiah the other day when i first started tweaking the convergence, i walked up to a spike sticking out of the ground at about a 45 degree angle and got it so it was as close to my screen as i could and pressed and held ctrl+F6 until i saw it look like it was jutting out of the screen. Very cool. It messed up the HUD, there was really bad double vision of it and the 2d crosshairs, but "cl_drawhud 0" got rid of that problem :) It does get hard telling what my health and mana and skill bindings are at w/o a hud, but SO much more immersion!

In FPS games, I've started increasing the convergence until i see both of my weapon models line-up w/o the glasses on. Maybe a bit more or a bit less would be best/more realistic, but i'm still learning there.

Anyone else have a good general rule of thumb for setting convergence that results in a pretty realistic perspective w/ decent pop-out in most games? i'm sure it differs a bit for each person and each display, but should be pretty close overall.

For my keboard I had to enable the F mode to use the function keys as function keys,. If not they use thier alternate functions. a few times that has caught me.

Ah thanks a lot guys. Changing convergence made dragon age a hell of a lot better. One more question though:

Nvidia control panel for some reason doesn't realise that I have most of my games installed. Even ones on its reccomended list. Is there any way I can get it to scan for them? It won'tlet me change convergence on games it doesn't know I have installed. Thanks for any help again :)

I have no problems changing the convergence on games that don't show up in the list. It may just take longer. for a test decrease depth to almost zero and trying getting the image to pop out .. ctrl+f6

Weird. Well maybe its the games. Should mass effect, titan quest and borderlands have adjustable convergence?
