3D keeps dropping out (Video / photo player)
I have a strange issue which wasn't happening before. But I think it may have started in the last couple of driver updates.

If I load a picture or a video (Using the Nvidia branded 3d viewers), and then try and switch-in to 3D mode (full screen), I see the bright green light on the 3D emitter and then about 1 second later it drops off and leaves me with a blank screen or returns to the desktop.

Sometimes after a lot of trying over and over, it sticks and works, but most of the time now it is dropping out immediately.

Strangely this does not happen with the nVidia control panel 3D test, or games!

Any ideas?

I also have noted this problem 2 days ago, after a reboot it worked again. i guess that it is some conflict with a software which runs in the background.
I just need to find out which soft is causing this behavior.

I also have sometimes a similar problem with games, they minimize when the intro video is running, and I need to ALT-TAB several time to get beck in the game.

For me it usually works once after a reboot and then starts playing up. I have tried stopping all background software and unless I am missing something, that isn't it.

BUT, I have found a possible link to the tablet PC input service (Windows 7 64-bit). When I stop this service, things improve dramatically. It also seems to be neccessary to stop this service to get fullscreen DX10 on some games. I need the input service as I have a wacom pen and touch. Now that I come to think of it, the problems may have started at the same time I got it!

Hello everyone,

I just signed up to find a solution for a very similar problem, hopefully the discussion will bring up the cause for it.

My OS is win7, running on intel quad core, 9800GTX, samsung monitor

The only video coded installed was the divx plus player to watch divx videos on the web.

My 3D kit worked perfectly, the 3D video and image viewer worked really nice the first few days.
The kit was hooked up to my system that has been freshly installed couple of days before purchase of the kit.

Then I didn't use the kit for about 3 weeks. Yesterday I tried to see some 3D videos , the player showed correct 3D video for about 2 seconds before the monitor flicker and then goes blank, but I can still hear the audio.

Similar thing happened with the image viewer. The image is displayed in 3D for 2 seconds and then goes back to desktop.

I tried to play some games in 3D and to my surprise they work just fine, only the video player and the image viewer are giving me trouble.

I tried installing the latest driver 197.45 and then setup the 3D through the nvidia control panel.

The setup works and detected the kit, but when I went to do the 3D test, the monitor flickered to black then showed the image for maybe a second, then black, then image, for about 3-4 times, and I was watching the green light on the transmitter going on and off each time.

Every time the monitor goes blank, I can see a message box in the middle of the screen, seems something like the one you get when your refresh out of bound. I couldnt really tell because it was so fast.

Then after those 3-4 time the nvidia 3D logo demo works and stays on.

Whats going on?

Sorry for the long rant, but I hope the more details I gave the better we can pin-point the problem.

Regards,

Sinan

EDIT: I just noticed what was the message box on the monitor when it went blank, it says not optimum something , and I can see the rez below it 1680X1050 which is the native rez of this monitor, and its already set to that !

ANOTHER EDIT !: I fixed it by adding a custom rez equal to the native one, and this forced the monitor to use this rez at 120Hz, tomorrow I'm going to test the monitor and the kit on another pc and see what happens.

Ok, I tried the kit on another pc, and all was fine. It is a software issue, something That got installed and causing all this grief !

I tried driver sweeper, and boy I shouldn't do that ! after I ran it and restarted, my windows 7 goes to the logon stage, everything goes fine to the point where it loads the desktop, and nothing but blank screen with only the mouse pointer, and sits there forever !

So I booted in safe mode, installed the nvidia driver and then rebooted normal, same thing. I finally gave up and used the system restore.

I thought I would start removing software I have installed, started with the divx, it asked for a restart, I did, and guess what ! my logon screen was blank again with only the mouse working.

So, restart one more time, last good known setup, it logged me in fine, and here I'm typing this, the video player issue still not solved and I hate bugs or things not working the way I want !
