One thing that occurs - people have been saying for years that heavy use of a computer screen will affect your eyesight due to your eyes focussing on a close object for long periods, and with 3D your eyes definitely seem to focus at a different point that's further away. I notice this when I first switch 3D only, it's not in focus to start with and as you move in the game you feel your eyes refocus on a more distant point.
So in this way 3D could prevent eyesight damage from always focussing on a close object. It's a pitty nVidia can't implement some sort of auto focus function though, but maybe it would be too much like hard work for your eyes.

I would say that I prolly use it too much, cause for about 20 mins after getting off the system if i try to read anything, it apears to be slightly offset as if i should still be wearing the glasses heh. But then again, I get the same effect only auditory from iDoser xD

First of all I would like to say I had the Sega 3D glasses when I was a kid and they did not affect my depth perception one bit (but then again, I didn't drive a car then either). Yes I am that old and have been playing videogames for that long.
This article is not as bad as you all are making it out to be. It is stating a concern about 3D and he is right about tricking your brain. None of you in this forum can say that your mind is not telling you that this is not "True" 3D. Even though it "appears" that way, in the back of your mind you know that it is a magic trick (one I like I might add). Until you get used to it, that struggle affects your perception of 3D vision.
For example:
When I saw the second to last Harry Potter in 3D (just the ending), I actually could not back out my car out of the parking spot. My depth perception was just a little off. I had to have my wife drive (whom it did not effect). It varies per person.
When I first received my Nvidia 3D vision pack, I was overly excited! I kid you not, the next 3-4 days, driving actually felt strange (I've seen other references to this on other forums here). I eventually got used to it and it is no longer a problem (I am now in the process of learning a good depth vs. convergence formula. Any advice would be appreciated).
Don't get me wrong, I embrace Nvidia 3D vision (once they get my @#$% Samsung drivers out) to it's fullest. I really, really like it (Fallout 3 is amazing in 3D), but I can see where a "noob" would have issues.

the fact of the matter is no body knows what will happen with long term exposure to 3d..
but for those who have been playing in 3d for years already, there is seemingly nothing wrong :P
the article is full of bs, it's so lame how now a days how reporters can just state their opinion or
an idea they may have instead of reporting actual facts.
my personal opinion is that 3d will actually improve our eyesight, and exercise the eye
muscles and brain in a positive manner.
A lot of people say their vision improved when using 3d. I could see this ringing true when it comes to near sightedness or far sightedness. As I understand your eyes can focus on things in the difference because muscles in your eye flex the lense so you can see the distant object clearly. In 2d gaming your looking at the same point constantly your eyes never have to adjust focus in that manner. In 3d gaming you reall are looking at an image coming from the same point, but as we know 3d comes from the effect of tricking your eyes and brain and seeing depth. Even though the depth perception is artifical, do your eyes still not try to focus on things in the distance and up close? If so is this effective exercise for the lenses of your eye and could you possibly get some lost ability to focus after a certain distance back? If not atleast maintain it?
Correct. And a good observation. A common eye training exercise the doctors have for people of 'sightedness' is to focus on something close, then adjust to something far away, and repeat over and over.....

I am a radiology certified doctor (and a keen 3D gamer), albeit currently working on development of medical 3D data acquisition and management for biotechnology applications and the article this thread is about grossly mis represents and interprets the Wikipedia facts referred to within it. 3d visulisation technologies certainly can cuase/exacerbate a few individuals disequilibrium disorders and the wisdom of focusing on poorly converged images for prolonged periods is very questionable as per the articles focus. However, good 3D tricks the eye and promotes muscle lens motion, can enhance 'lazy' vision, may lessen development of age related decline in lens viscosity if compared to prolonged reading or normal computer use and decrease radiation exposure by glasses acting as filters if using CRT (cathode ray tube same tech as x-ray machines) screens. In summary, good 3D viewing is more of a benefit than negative when compared to 2D viewing.

To be honest, my glasses left me a little disorientated the first night I cranked up the 3D to 100% depth (0% popout) and played N4S Shift for a few hours. I used to be able to play race games all day and drive with no worries
but after S3D Shift I felt funny. I believe it to be because my senses had been fooled by the added depth where non had been before.
For me that just demonstrates how convincing the 3D is - A GOOD THING!
The neurons quickly sussed it out, grew addition dendritic connections and the next day that disorientating sensation had gone - no worries.
FTR - my eyesight has got better, I no longer need to wear glasses. It is because I no longer stare at the screen 50cm in front of me but somewhere much further out behind my monitor...
