21fps in warcraft
does 21 frames per seconr sound right with a gtx285 black edition? it sounds awfully low to me. wondering if spending the money on what was supposed to be as awesome card was really worth it. any suggestions on how to increase it?

What are the rest of your system specs? Also, where are you getting this 21fps? dalaran?

nvidia 750i ftw, corsair 750watt psu, e8200 o/c to 3.4Ghz, 4 gigs ocz ram, vista64bit, stereoscopic 3d monitor. yes, in dalaran. but even in ironforge the framerate isnt really over 35. so im confused. oh, and i deleated all my mods while i try and figure this out. but i will need em back to raid tomorrow. hehe

Yeah that is strange... STRANGE THAT YOU'RE PLAYING ALLIANCE!!

juuuust kidding... :D

Open up your task manager and see what your CPU usage is at (open it, play the game, then quit out and look at the graph to see if it was maxing out). I've got a pretty beefy system but WoW still brings the CPU to its knees. I'm sure overclocking would help, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Also, WoW only uses two CPU threads, so extra cores and hyperthreading won't help. I'm not sure if the system trying to render 120 FPS asks for double performance from the GPU and the CPU, but it sure seems like it, doesn't it? If it's the CPU, you could try turning down your draw distance.

The next thing to try would be turning down your graphics settings all the way to see if it clears things up, then slowly turn them back up to see which one(s) are the biggest culprits.

And like you said, try disabling all your addons.

Oh, and check your ping time.

What you are seeing is normal for WoW. The game is mainly designed around the cpu for performance, so really doesn't matter what video card you use. As of this moment, the best preformance is using CoreI7 processors. Mods cause a huge performance hit, so there is really no way around it without disabling them which is not really a viable choice. I have been neglecting WoW lately, as I've been catching up on some other games using 3D lately. I need to get back to it and see if the latest cd has fixed any of the problems like double imaged map. May be that Blizzard has to fix that, not sure. One the disappointing effects for me is that it doesnt work well with convergence because of all the 2D objects that have to be displayed on the desktop. OH well, nothing is perfect.. btw, I get about 50-60 fps in 2D and 20-30 fps with 3D enabled. You will always have to expect around a 50% performance hit with this technology, that's just it's nature.

I've got a Core i7 920, 6GB DDR3 Memory and a GeForce 8800GTX and I only get 24-29 FPS in Dalaran WITHOUT 3D. With 3d it drops to 13-14 fps in Dalaran. I get about 25 in IF with 3D on, and it caps at 100 in IF with it turned off.

alright. thanks for all the input. maybe blizzard will come up with some sort of fix for thier game, but im not holding my breath. figured it was the game as every other game i have seems to play with full settings and no issues. just kinda stinks that all the money spent on decent hardware, yet still has kinda crummy framerate on the game i play most. not sayin it dont look awesome, just wouldnt mind a few extra frames.

This happens becuase WoW is a game that mainly runs off the CPU, so no matter how what GFX power you throw it wont help.

When 3D is enabled you even put more stress on the cpu, wow is designed to run off almost any computer. This allows them to make alot more money but thats expected.

Hope that clears it up

Overclock your cpu. Any intel core2 peice of crap will overclock like mad as long as you don't have an OEM motherboard (dell, HP, compaq, any of those garbage brands)

My e6550 (stock 2.3) hit 3.2 at 1.4 volts with stock cooling, and is stable there. It's a night and day difference. There's no reason to not overclock, period.

I had a choppy FPS on that game as well. The new GPU fix it. Runs smooth as silk in 3D and 2D.

Edit:
I had an 8800GTX OC with same system as below before this card.

Yes, I have that same problem. Pretty beefy machine, GTX 260 Black Edition (OC), excellent performance in every other game, mediocre performance in Warcraft.
