Any way to fix the issue with games that are not saving convergence settings?
1 / 2
I would like to know if there is any way to fix that problem where a game resets to default convergence when you try to save your desired convergence settings. In most cases where this occurs it doesn't matter to me since it doesn't take very long for me to get my desired settings (like in 3rd person action games where I just merge the two character images).
But right now I am fiddling with convergence for WWE 2K15 which is a very complicated game to find the best convergence settings for since it uses tons of different camera angles and close ups so it is very hard to find the sweet spot. It is definitely very time consuming so I don't want to have to do it every time I play this game.
Is there any way to fix this problem?
I normally change the default saving key to another one which normally works without any problem. Could that play a role here?

I have the same issue. But I use default saving key ctrl + F7.
When I instaled last version of the nvidia driver more of my games swiches to default convergence when I try to save new convergence.

This happens for me as well on certain games. Most recently, LEGO Star Wars Saga and Van Helsing 1 + 2
I thought this was due to lack of nVidia profiles, but I think I was confused with the lack of nVidia 3D rating - the green standard 3D message appearing when you start a game in 3D Vision for the first time.
For these games the message says something like "not rated by nVidia", which is fair enough, but normally, once dismissed, these messages disappear next time you start the game. For these games, and some others, the nVidia rating message appears at every game start, and the convergence/depth settings never save. Pressing Ctrl+F7 makes the game revert to the default setting.
And the games have nVidia profiles, I've checked in Inspector, so I'm sure why this happens.

Are you doing anything other than the norm, like locking the registry or running the EXEs in compatibility(WinXP,etc) mode, etc?
Deleting the profile will usually fix this issue ... if there's an abnormally high amount of games that are doing it, I'd look into maybe doing a clean Driver install.

I'm not doing any of that, and it only happens with very few games, like one in 10, if that. Usually old games, or games not rated by nVidia.
I was just curious, reading this post, if this was like a known nVidia quirk that could be solved easily by a known workaround.
Thanks for the profile deletion suggestion, I will try to remember it next time I see this happen.

I don't have a solution, but would like to add that I have this issue too, and also have been meaning to (and constantly forgetting) to create a topic (so thanks!). In fact, I had this happen so often that I wasn't even able to discern that it happens for some games, and not others... TBH, I just stopped trying to save my convergence settings.
At one point I think/thought I resolved the issue simply by changing the keyboard shortcut for saving the setting, but later had difficulty recreating it after a driver install, which probably was simply a case of it working on games that don't have the issue and not working on games that do.

Not sure if this is the only thing going on or why it's happening but here are my findings with Thief Deadly Shadows, a profile known to do this.
Default, no known Settings/Values:
Profile "Thief 3 Deadly Shadows"
ShowOn GeForce
ProfileType Application
Executable "t3main.exe"
Setting ID_0x1033cec1 = 0x00000001
Setting ID_0x1033dcd2 = 0x00000001
Setting ID_0x1095def8 = 0x00000004
EndProfile
After saving Profile 'gitch':

Setting ID_0x70ad05c8 = 0x55650f4f UserSpecified=true // Time
EndProfile
I tried removing the 3 'default' Setting lines from the Profile and it still wouldn't save properly, as you can see when it's deleted it does save properly and the 'MysteryStereoSetting' is also saved to the Profile ... I found just adding that Setting to the Profile allows it to be saved properly, I'm not sure what's causing it not to be added when saving.

Ah, now that's an interesting find!
So, this issue will not occur on games that do not have a profile at all, and should not occur on most games that have a stereo profile (since most should have the mystery setting already), but may occur on games that have a non-stereo profile if they lack the mystery setting.
I think that may explain a lot of situations where I've seen this happening.

So, in other words, if problem occurs try adding mystery stereo setting to NIP? Gotcha! Will test and confirm as soon as I'm able.

Cool find TsaebehT, The thief series of games will always stay installed on my PC. These are of the very few games that I have not tired of over the years. I've gotten used to re-adjusting convergence on each mission/screen load in Thief - Deadly Shadows. This will hopefully eliminate that pain in the ass.....or for any game that does not save settings...

I just deleted the profile for WWE 2K15 and indeed now I am able to save my convergence settings. It doesn't reset the convergence settings to default any more!
Thanks alot for this advice!

Great find, TsaebehT !
Assuming that profiles are sometimes important, for SLI flags and other settings, is there a simple way to add the mystery setting line manually, like in Nvidia Inspector? Or can it only be done by exporting the official profile, then editing the resulting file in notepad, then importing the profile back?
Sorry, I did not fully understand the process you described.

Ohh it gets better ... adding the MysteryStereo setting to the Base Profile fixes Deadly Shadows and makes it unnecessary to to add it to the Thief 3 Deadly Shadows Profile altogether. One Profile to rule them all? Lol. :)
Ok, the easiest way to add the MysteryStereo setting to the Base Profile and keep everything else intact is to download NVIDIA's GeForce 3D Profile Manager, located here ... Run it(Agree to Terms of Use) and click Export SLI Profiles, Save and Open NVIDIA Profiles.txt, Scroll down(or Ctrl+F) to the 'Base Profile' section which should look something like this:
Profile "Base Profile"
ShowOn All
ProfileType Global
Setting ID_0x80303a19 = 0x00000001
Setting ID_0x80857a28 = 0x00000001
Setting ID_0x809d5f60 = 0x00000001
EndProfile
and add the MysteryStereo setting 'Setting ID_0x701eb457 = 0x00000001' to it like so:
Profile "Base Profile"
ShowOn All
ProfileType Global
Setting ID_0x701eb457 = 0x00000001 // MysteryStereoSetting
Setting ID_0x80303a19 = 0x00000001
Setting ID_0x80857a28 = 0x00000001
Setting ID_0x809d5f60 = 0x00000001
EndProfile
... now just save it and click Import SLI Profiles in GeForce 3D Profile Manager and import NVIDIA Profile.txt ... fire up an offending game and fingers crossed it'll magically work like Thief Deadly Shadows does. :)
There's an alternate method of doing this that involves downloading DarkStarSword's awesomely updated CustomSettingNames_en-EN.xml for NVIDIA Inspector from here and using NVIDIA Inspector to add the MysteryStereo setting to the Global/Base Profile.

After deleting the WWE 2K15 profile I didn't face any issues but in case I wanted to use the WWE 2K15 profile again using the method you mentioned above can it be done the exact way you described it above for thief or is there anything specific for that game so I had to change something when doing it for WWE 2K15? Is the mystery-line (Setting ID_0x701eb457 = 0x00000001 ) the exact same for WWE 2K15 or is there anything that needs to be changed?

I poked around in the Profile list and I couldn't find a Profile for WWE 2K15, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist but my guess is it was actually created when you hid the StereoMemo(Ctrl+Alt+Ins) text. Just hiding the StereoMemo automatically creates a Profile but for whatever reason in these cases whether it's manually Saved or automatically created it's missing the MysteryStereo flag ... and for whatever other reason that's causing an issue.
The 'Global/Base Profile' method above isn't really to fix a specific game, it's hopefully to fix all of them and Thief is just an example. I was originally going to create a Script to add the MysteryStereo setting line to any Profile that was missing it but then I figured out by just adding it to the Global/Base Profile it would automatically get used on the Profiles that are missing it, just like the other Settings that are stored there.
I parsed the Profile list for any other known Values and the only Value used is (
Setting ID_0x701eb457 = 0x2241ab21 InternalSettingFlag=V0 // MysteryStereoSetting
) and technically that Value worked with Thief as well, so either 0x00000001 or 0x2241ab21 added to the Gloabal/Base Profile should be fine. :)

I thought this was due to lack of nVidia profiles, but I think I was confused with the lack of nVidia 3D rating - the green standard 3D message appearing when you start a game in 3D Vision for the first time.
