Cheap 3d setup?
So I occasionally use the anaglyph 3d while playing games and it works and looks awsome. However, the color is a bit washed out due to the red-blue so I've been tinkering with the idea of using shutter or polarized glasses but I'm niave about these options. Which is better and what is the cheapest (but tolerable) way to go for 3d as I'm not made of money and would have to save up for quite some time. I do know that my monitor is not 3d capable and is not 120hz refresh. (so at least I know that)

For me the best options for 3d is either a projector, mostly acer H5360 that you can currently get quite cheap for a 50'' / 100'' screen, or HMZ-T1/HMZ-T2 Sony HMD, but that's expensive. Advantage of both those options, no ghosting, which is one of the biggest problems of 3d, and great brightness compared to monitors. My experience with monitors and laptop 3d displays is that the experience is inferior, together with a smaller screen, yet you can get 3d enabled monitors a lot cheaper, so hopefully someone will have their say about what's the best and cheapest monitor you can get now.

I second the projector, the 3d performance you can get on the cheap is amazing and you'll allso experience no xtalk on a projector if it's dlp i believe. I got the acer h5360bd and was shocked at how good a 3d image could look on the big screen at such a cheap price piont. I can't reccomend the h5360bd though as mine shows a issue where when panning to the left edges of some objects have a green tint and panning the other way shows a purple tint around some edges of things on screen. I'd rule out a Benq w710st as that unit has issues with its short through tech that creates a brighter and a duller side and a sharper and a muted side. The w710st did'nt have the green and purple tint so thumbs up to it on that part.

Thank you for your inputs. I don't think I really have anywhere to set up a projector, but apparently it is something to remember in the future. It's odd that it seems projectors have better quality, I would have thought the opposite. Anyways, besides a 3d monitor, what all will I need? I see all kinds of different parts on Newegg but reading other people talk about their setups and whatnot, I don't know what's changed, what's not needed anymore, what's needed now

So it looks like the easiest, maybe the best solution (at least to start) would be to get a 3d monitor bundled with the built in ir and glasses (which would be everything I need)? they mention the Asus VH278H although I am happy with the 23" size I have now. Time to hit newegg again, now that I have at least a bit of an idea what to look for.

I'm not recommending any of these in particular but found them to be in the same pricerange: Acer GD245HQAbid Benq XL2411T Benq requires additional kit Unless I'm wrong I wouldn't consider 3D monitors particularly cheap.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.

No, unfortunately (at least for me) monitors aren't cheap but unless I have one that does at least 120 refresh, then the only 3d I can do is red/blue. Since I don't have wallspace for a projector then my only option is a new monitor. With the bundle packs, I shouldn't have to worry about what additional pieces I need to run 3d (I hope) Having read through some of these threads, I've heard BenQ not usually working so I should probably stay away from that brand to save trouble.

If you want cheap, buy an Acer 120Hz 3D Vision ready display + 3D Vision kit. Be warned. There may be quality issues. 3D Vision Requirements. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-system-requirements.html I hope your Athlon is overclocked because your fps will decrease with 3D Vision. By the way, nvidia has an online store. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-glasses.html http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-displays.html Or maybe buy used instead of new?

I like having the 3D Vision kit seperately, I can enable 3D Vision/3DTV Play on a 3D HDTV/ Projector/ Monitor for stereographic gameplay much easier or even 3 for surround.

If a monitor has a built in IR emitter, should I still get a vision kit and not use the built in, or just find a decent pair of shutter glasses? What about the polarized monitors/glasses, are they just as good as shutter?

If I get wired shutter glasses such as these http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-geforce-3d-vision-wired-glasses-us.html Will I still need an ir emitter? it doesn't really say on the page. Since I wouls only be using it on my pc at a desk, wired is not a problem (especially if it saves money)

You would not need an emitter for the USB wired glasses, nor would they work wirelessly. I'm unsure if the wired USB glasses enable 3DTV Play for free (normally $40), like the 3D Vision kit does. If the monitor has a built in emitter you would not need to buy an editional emitter. Passive monitors use a screen overlay that alternately directs every other line of resolution to each eye. So with a passive monitor you receive 1920x540 per eye. ATM only the Passive monitors from Acer are officially supported by Nvidia.

Thank you all for your help :) You've helped me understand the options I have and what I'll need depending on which I choose.
