Better than because you can adjust the 'strength' with the depth and convergence controls in game beyond a level that a film is set at. They use conservative settings in film because that is what average joe can comfortably tolerate without hours of use to train and strengthen the eyes to cope with the higher degree of separation and pop out that you can achieve with 3d gaming.

Of course some freaks round here can go to full depth straight away without an issue. Some even edit settings to go beyond the recommended! :P

The effects on both my displays are way better then the theater. More solid and intense. I'm really not the explaining type though.

It really depends on what kind of gamer you are...

Playing battlefield 2 and driving the little buggy.. Looking around the buggy and seeing the engine in the rear and the metal frame pop out of your monitor is totally surreal.. Same thing with the guns and their scopes, popping out of the monitor is really awesome..

Also, climbing up 20 stories in Mirror's edge and then walking across a thin beam and looking down while doing it.. Whoa..

Most of the time, the 3D effects can be quite distracting.. I really don't think I play 100% to my capability when I'm running it.. So no, it won't magically make you awesome at every game you play.. Often things will appear a little darker than they normally would which might make you miss somebody hiding in the shade at first glance..

But yea, once you play with 3D vision.. Some games just aren't the same.. Running over people with vehicles is 5000x more awesome when their bodies fly out at you through the monitor..

Mate

I was blown away.

Nearly everyone who has seem my set said they didnt think it would be as good as it is. They also said they thought it better S3D than the cinema. This is prolly because the cinema S3D is not set to infinite depth more likely only 20%. As i understand it when divergence is the same as the space between your eyes your eyes think they are looking into infinity 100% depth is required for this.

3D Vision WORKS my friend.

I honestly can only manage to save £1 per day so I need to think carefully about my investments. This is the best investment and enhancement to my games I have ever made. I used to play on the speccy so I am going back a long time buddy.

It's very hard to describe it, better to see it for yourself..

Looking at your monitor, you'd absolutely swear that it's got a depth a mile long.. But you know that it doesn't, so it's just... magical..

3dvision = seeing is believing....

Cannot explain how good it all looks with 3dVision,..your brain actually 'calculates' the depth in these games, but in real times it's not...
If your a real gamer, you won't be dissapointed with 3d.

Depends on the game, and some of the built in profiles for games that are officially supported aren't that great (others work well through) but I've learned a few tweaks to even get games that don't work well at high 3d depth to look better than they did using the convergence settings (there is an excellent guide someone put together that explains the concepts, worth checking out but might be hard to grasp if you don't have the kit to experiment with). There is a thread all about which are the best games in 3d, I suggest you check that out and hear what others are saying.. for me, it's been a bumpy road getting it working right but that's due to separate hardware issues I encountered. Well worth it though, left for dead especially - zombies coming out of the screen to eat my brains.... mmmm...... brains... =)

The only downside, as someone quite rightly said in their signature (and I'll try and quote verbatim..)

"The only problem with 3d is that now 2d looks... meh."

Couldn't agree more :)

... and some suck donkey #'?!

Personally, I'm really enjoying my 3D Vision Kit, but about 75% of buddies and family trying it out on my system complain about eye-strain and dizziness.

Imho this is still the biggest fault with the shutter glass system, in terms of comfort it really doesn't compare to a 3D cinema experience.

Please no hardcore fanboyish '3D Vision rockz!!!' replies, we all know it to be true.

I dunno

I have yet to find a friend who has noticed that problem. However my misses said she felt queasy but she also complained of feeling queasy in the cinema. Physically moving about is also disorientating but again so is doing so at the cinema.

Regarding eyestrain... I started wearing glasses about 3 years ago - I was short sighted and needed them for driving. I am no longer wearing them. My eyesight is still pretty pants but I can now read number plates passed 20m which I couldnt before! I can only assume it is because I am now typically focusing on objects beyond my screen instead of the screen 40cm in front of me so my eyes are adjusting for the middle depth.

Some games are spoilt - ney ruined by 2D elements. World in Conflict is a naughty contender because of the 2D icons (such a shame!) but others are so much more immersive - I am currently replaying Med2:Total War. The mouse is 2D as are the flags on the tactical map - the battle map, which we know the TW series is all about, looks mega! Bioshock horrid unremovable 2D crosshair

Fallout 3! Oblivion! Prototype! N4S Shift! Batman! Dragon's Age: Origins! Tomb Raider: Underworld! Assassins Creed! Stalker! GTA:SA! GTA4 (medium textures)! Look and play amazingly in S3D!

I have a modest rig q4400 4GB GTX260 all overclocked using factory components and the above games run fine for my non competative gaming needs (always above 30FPS)

I will post some screenies with benchmarks tomorrow
