If you're talking about the DLP 'rainbow effect', I thought that's inherent with the technology and is per the user not the projector.

are you certain all DLPs are equally susceptible to the 'rainbow effect' ?

He's saying that some people are more sensitive to it than others. Personally, I think there's some truth in that, but it's one of those things that if you look for it, you'll see it, if you try to ignore it, then you won't really notice it. The W1070 has a decent colour wheel speed so as far as single chip dlp's go it's pretty good. You need to see it yourself. When I got my projector, I noticed it straight away, but so what, it's cheap and the picture quality is awesome. If you spend your time looking for picture quality defects then you're not going to enjoy anything. Meant to say as well, DLP = no ghosting, LCD etc. = some ghosting. Call it crosstalk if that suits.

Some can see the rainbow effect while others can't. It depends on how fast your eyes react on changes. If you're sleepy you are less prone to detect rainbowing etc... It is due to the dlp-projector showing each colors in turn (r,g,b and sometimes there's even a white frame). I can see the rainbowing when the screen is bright but i think it depends a lot on the projector used and what speed the colorwheel is at. More speed, less rainbow but more colorwheelnoise and higher requirement of the tech inside the projector. The actual and experienced effect of rainbowing is not a biggie if you ask me.

I have the W1070 and I don't see it, but some people may be more sensitive. Also when I got my h5360 I noticed it inmediately, however I soon got used to it and learned to ignore it quickly. About the W1070, it doesn't work very well with Tridef. If you're going to play in 3d, with the current official lack of support from Nvidia, I think that you should look for a projector that works decently with tridef together with 3d vision, I suggest you ask in AVS forums or similar. If at some point you find a projector that works really well with Tridef and 3d vision pls share it with us ;) .

It's inherent with the technology because they all use a color wheel but it's still per the the user because only a small percent of people are even affected by it. edit: ninja'd by everyone else while I was side-tracked. Lol. :)

Just to expand on DLP v LCD, if you're buying it for 3d it's no contest. DLP micromirrors respond in microseconds, LCD is inherenty inferior for active 3d as the crystals just can't change state quickly enough. Things have improved, but DLP is still king. Just look at the number of people on here who buy an LCD monitor and have issues with ghosting. Reviewers are very lenient and probably biased too!

birthright, don't you have a w7000? would you say it's significantly better than the w1070? is the w1070 a worthy upgrade from the h5360?

W1070 definitely has the rainbow effect. The only way to avoid would be spending significantly more for a 3 chip DLP that does all colors simultaneously. My last projector was LCD (not 3D) and I absolutely hated it for gaming - tons of motion blur. I can't imagine the 3D would be good either, but I haven't tried that specific Epson model. I'm very sensitive to the rainbow effect and it was fairly strong when I first got it, but I got used to it and barely notice it now. What I do notice is the amazing picture quality and that the 3D is killer - absolutely no ghosting and very comfortable (uses 144hz). The thing is bright as hell too, so it works in dim light (in 2D) and is sufficiently light with 3D. I would not hesitate to buy again. Just make sure you review all of the 3D options and make sure it fits what you need (it's kind strange, some resolutions will only take certain formats, like SBS but not over and under). 3D vision gaming is generally limited to 720p (an HDMI limitation), but it still looks great even at 120"
