It's user upgradeable firmware. Not sure if you can downgrade though.

Yeah in worst case frame sequential support is removed from the firmware without mentioning this in the release notes. I have no need to try this - but would be interesting to know if this is a downgrade or upgrade ;).

Anyone who's interested in upgrading firmware, I urge caution as the specs of UHD50 in Optoma site has changed now. It no longer mentions frame sequential support as it did before; instead, it specifically says SbS and O/U 1080i 50/60, 720p 50/60. I couldn't find frame sequential anywhere I could search. This doesn't necessarily mean frame sequential is gone, but maybe not specifically mentioned. I suppose you can also downgrade firmware easily, as long as you have copy of previous firmware version saved. I did have a previous firmware from Optoma site saved, but I thought it's not necessary and deleted it last week. Regret it big time lol. So glad I bought this projector before this change :)

I've got the full downloads for UHD50_C06 and UHD50_C07 if you want old firmware. In the package it's only the MSTFW (9U13) software that's changed. I only downloaded it because I was trying to understand why some manufacturers let you do it yourself and others don't. I speculate it might be possible to upgrade it yourself on other projectors, as the software just seems to be a set of standard TI tools anyway. Shame BenQ won't publish their firmware for download like Optoma do.

Hi Paul Today I got the uhd40, Unpacked my rig from the boxes (I just moved to another apartment) Plugged the 3D vision 2 emitter, plugged hdmi cable from gpu to uhd40 Changed to CRT generic mode in nvcp and run the game inside. I put on the XPAND glasses (DLP) ... which I thought is a must - nothing. I put the Nvidia glasses .. looked wrong, put them upside down and to my surprise and in contradiction To what I read at your 1st post, I got wonderful 3D with zero ghosting. Turn off projector 3D - there was still 3D But with heavy ghosting , turned on 3D mode again and I got amazing 3D again - and very constant without sync problems. I think you have to change what you wrote in your 1st post. 3D VISION GLASSES DEFINITLY WORKS WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL. hope it will help others who choose to go this route.

Thanks DMAN11! Update: you can use both of the glasses (Nvidia and the DLP) to enjoy 3D projected on a wall. After tweaking and testing the uhd40 I can tell without any doubt that this is the best system I have for 3D pc gaming. I projected the picture right on skim coated wall (no paint), 3 meter wide and 1.7 m height from ~4 m distance and it’s amazing to experience 3D on such dimensions. The immersion is insane. Zero ghosting!! I compared the uhd40 and the Asus PG278QR in witcher 3 and the difference in ghosting is huge - literally no ghosting at all compared to the Asus. For me it’s the most important improvement. The brightness of the machine is very good, no noise from it and the 13cm light frame is not so bad. Tried to put black fabric on that and it vanished so I’m gonna put black frame around. The contrast is not good but considering the light reflected from the white walls it is not bad either and I’m gonna treat the room with black velvet fabrics on the walls and ceiling. The wierd thing I felt was that the 1080p resolution didn’t felt like one. It felt like 4k. I thought that 1080p on such a big wall will be blurry but I was totally surprised from the result (sitting 3 m from screen). Bottom line.. I love this projector and I’m so glad I took this route Thanks everybody here especially Paul and rustyk21 who bought me to this decision.
Thanks DMAN11!

I've always found that gaming on any of my projectors was way more responsive as well. Playing platformers that require double jumps became so much more fluid and easier to complete.
Hi eitan, awesome that your 3D Vision glasses work! I tried so hard and also massed with CRU but it never worked reliably. Maybe it's related to the firmware version of the projector - I bought mine in May 2018 - so maybe the firmware got updated in the meantime.
The wierd thing I felt was that the 1080p resolution didn’t felt like one. It felt like 4k
Haha yeah, I also felt that it's a huge jump. Much better than 4xDSR @720p. Just imagine how brilliant 3D would be on a native 4k @ 120hz projector. Cool that my FAQ was able to bring some people onboard to "high quality 3D" on a projector :P. I'll update the FAQ by mentioning that 3D Vision glasses are not necessarily unsupported. We still don't know the reason but as said my best guess is that it's the firmware.

Paul, My fw is c06 and I was glad when I saw it because of the chances that fw c07 cancels the frame sequential method in favor to frame packed. I’m still waiting for a clear answer whether they added frame packed and not exchanged it with frame sequential so we could enjoy both worlds. On my oled tv I can watch frame packed 3D iso files through Mvc-hc with madvr plugin. the tv upscale the video to 3840x2160 which is amazing. On my projector I can’t watch 3D iso and I can see fast flipping of the left-right image. I guess this is a result of the 23 hz of the movie which doesn’t synchronize with the 120 hz of the projector.

Hello, For me, the 3Dvision glasses do not work while I received the video projector two weeks ago. I have two numbers for the firmware, C02 for the system and C04 for the MCU. I did not find a single number, how do we do it? I saw on monitor asset manager that my video projector was manufactured in 2018, week 11. It was manufactured more than a year before I bought it! @ rustyk21, I would be interested to recover the "old" firmware C06, I found only the C07 on the Internet. It can still serve, thank you very much! I had no new problem with 3D but sometimes when I change the resolution (especially from 4K to 1080p @ 120 hz) or I start a game, the video projector crashes. I no longer have an image (while it works on my monitor) and I have to stop the video projector. When I turn it back on, I still have no picture (not even the Optoma screen) and it turns off again to turn back on and everything is normal again. Has someone already had this problem ?

Zeguru69, I have two numbers c03 and c06. And I also experienced this problem when I’m loading a game and then there is black screen, I can still move the mouse cursor, I’m hearing the music of the game and I would have to restart. I haven’t do a lot of testing and because of a renovation in my house I had to pack everything again so in few days I’m going to explore the projector more.

@eitan8385 I do not think it's the same problem. When the video projector crashes I have no more images, even the menus of the video projector do not appear anymore. I need to stop the video projector and turn it back on. When I turn it back on, there is still no picture but it turns off again by itself and then it's good.

In fact, specifically it's the risk that 1920x1080 frame sequential is removed. C07 probably still retains 720p frame sequential regardless as most other 3d projectors already support that. If you were to ask Optoma support you'd have to be quite specific with the question.
