Future of 3D Vision Support (Official announcement from NVIDIA)
17 / 42
my point is anything new coming out when 3d vision no longer works is welcome.
Nvidia abandoning 3dvision is inevitable, it created sort of an ecosystem with 3d lightboost displays, glassses and emitters, drivers, but in the end it fails as a business. So now users are left with nothing, it's a sad sad thing but cannot be stopped. To have an early warning of one yr is good but not totally safe, bo3d and dss might need longer dev time depends on personal availability, i'll of course support their initiative regardless. 3yrs seems reasonable to ask as padded time from nvidia. As an aside, VR can tide us over and autostereo would just be a surprise bonus.

If we can bypass the "driver mismatch' error while installing 3D drivers that might help getting 3D work on newer drivers/hardware. Has anyone tried uninstalling all drivers except 3D vision, and on top of 3D installing newer "3Dless" drivers.
If newer GPUs are released before April 2020 window, can we petition NVidia to add support of newer GPUs within branch 418.
How about using Tridef drivers instead. Tridef is out of business but if we can find the driver from somewhere; it had 14 day trial. If we can maybe bypass the 14 day trial and keep it running.
For VR headsets, Tridef VR used to display games in 3D SBS in VR headsets. If we can maybe hack that and use it for our VR headsets. Vorpx is another option with active support, and it plays games in 3D in VR headsets.
Our best bet is VR headsets as it seems. With Virtual Desktop app and Tridef you could already play most games in 3D SBS in VR. I think 3Dmigoto is more than capable of achieving it.
It's a tricky situation as 3D glasses supply will run out and so will 3D Vision certified monitors. This community will be limited to people like us with legacy hardware. Once our hardware fails this community will shrink one by one. Any new solution would probably need to work with any 120hz monitor and commercially available 3D glasses for future 3D gamers. Sad indeed as outlook is bad for us 3D gamers.

Yes, hardware will become a problem, too. The Nvidia glasses are uncomfortable anyway. I always hoped they will make their 3D dongle Full HD 3D RF compatible that we can choose the glasses of different manufacturers.
The new HDMI 2.1 supports 120Hz. Perhaps someone can do a workaround to make 3D out of this.
The hdmi guys aren't doing a good job. They never put better 3D support in. It's still 720p with 60hz and 1080p with 24hz only.

I was hoping for something similar to happen with 3DTV Play, either made free by Nvidia or an 'alternate' way to use it.
The old way of resetting Armadillo keys doesn't appear to work any more.

3DTVPlay is now free to use and is part of the 418 Driver (It's actually written in the post).

Our software that enables the use of 3D gaming with 3D TVs, 3DTV Play, is now included for free in Release 418. It is no longer available as a standalone download. Our 3D Vision Video Player will continue to be offered as a standalone download, for free, until the end of 2019.

Cool, so much to read in this thread I kinda skimmed over a few parts :D Strange that it is still available to download though, hence some of my confusion.
Some of the worst news of my life (except for the chance of you and bo3b doing something about it).
It makes me consider buying a 2080Ti now instead of waiting for the next generation...
I'll keep fixing games for as long as I physically can. And after that, if 3D truly dies... I don't know what I will do.
Yeah it really truly sucks but I would rather purchase a solid 120-144 Hz curved 3440x1440 panel over that POS "2080 Ti" (the 80 card in actuality, 25% faster than 1080 Ti for $1300 LMFAO) and just move on.
I picked up an AW3418DW on sale about a year ago and honestly, about 75% of my games look better at fluid G-Sync 100-120 Hz vs 3D Vision at 2560x1440.
I intend to pick up an HTC Vive Pro if / when it goes on sale next and assuming I upgrade from 1080 Ti in the next few years, which I probably will, I will just have fond memories of 3D Vision.
I even kept my PG278Q on a monitor arm and still have games that admittedly do look better in 3D Vision (The Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight) when they don't exhibit sub 50 FPS non G-Sync stutter and really bad double talk in bright scenes, both of which are immediately bothersome when I transition from the AW341DW (I'm currently only playing the two aforementioned games in 3D Vision, everything else, and I do mean everything else, to include all of the Wii U games I'm emulating, Super Mario 3D World, Zelda: BOTW, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Sonic Generations, looks infinitely better at 21:9).
21:9 is truly a worthwhile consolation to look into:
https://youtu.be/0afwE6GVLQw
https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/
And movies look amazing on this panel, there are no black bars, playing them with Smooth Video Project @ 120 FPS, it truly is a toss up between that and the 3D movies I have on the PG278Q.
To reiterate, I would NOT "upgrade" to 2080 Ti.
Just let it go man.
I would put that money towards HTC Vive Pro and / or a curved 3440x1440 panel and just let 3D Vision go.
I picked up Redout recently as I'm an F-Zero fan and although I truly love the game on my AW3418DW, come to find that this is a popular game in VR. I can't even imagine playing this game in VR.
Just move on dude. It's over. The longer you try to hold on the more painful (getting gouged and scammed by NGreedia with their Turing GPU rename scam, F' them and the entire Turing lineup).

xXxStarManxXx, I don't doubt that playing in 2D 21:9 must look good. But... it's still flat. For example, I played a DMC5 mission today in 2D (to avoid crashes) and I just couldn't fight correctly, like seeing where I was in the 3D space in the middle of all those effects and enemies. I passed the mission, but with less style than usual.

Nope nope nope. I still have a really BIG backlog of both old and recent games that I need to play in 3D, or fix if they don't have a fix. I could spend a lot of years playing the games that I already have.
3D for traditional games is something that I'll never let go. Not ever in my lifetime if I can. 3D is love, 3D is life :p.

I would wholeheartedly agree with this. I think I will hold on to 3D as long as I am alive. I have invested myself way too much into it. got 4 3D tvs. 2 monitors. I only buy games that have 3D fixes. :)
There are so many games on the PS4 that I would like to play, but I rather not because they arent on 3D. Its like having movies in colors and then going back to black and white. meh

I kind of understand starman's point, in that there are still technical innovations happening with monitors, even if it's outside of the realm of 3D. when I got my new monitor I tried some old racing games at 144fps gsync, gotta admit it's incredibly smooth. if I compare that to my old '08 1080p 24" 60hz, on which I played these games back then, it's 10 times better.
nevertheless, 3D is 50 times better, and if you could play 3D on one of these new ultrawides, pretty sure you would and that you'd think it sucks in 2D by comparison. 2D is a technical limitation that won't be missed by many, if the day comes when 3D tech is standardized.

pp on this forum is so nice, probably because of the brain is very developed with 3d gaming and have a better control of their feelings :)
I also do think this thread is only for 3D vision and its continued or alternative replacement development discussion. Any detraction is a clear violation of etiquette.

+2 costiq, goya/nvidia painting is serious and funny at the same time.
+2 bo3b, dss, paulduster for expertises and dedication to 3d gaming.
