LOL at the 3D haters

I care only because I hope exclusive titles can be playable in 3D. But the PC will always be my go to platform, simply because of mods and hardware upgrades to the latest and greatest.

A game working in 3D on console doesn't really work it will work on PC. For example AC3 and Black Ops.
Is Sony a "Hater", let's hope not They have since stated the PS4 will have 3D support, but to what extent.
I dont understand what makes you think sony could be a 3d hater. Yes 3d was bigger deal couple years ago, its somewhat "standard" now-a-days so you cant make a fuzz about it anymore. Sony is giving 3d support for movies and games so the devs can do their magic if they want to. To that extent. I think thats only thing sony CAN do. I didnt see 3d haters in that 120hz.net thread. Some dont like 3d, not that big of a deal. Im 3d enthusiast but my lady cant stand it even though we have top of the line hardware. She'd rather watch movie in 2d and we have seen every good 3d movie out there. So its not that she hasnt seen good 3d, she even watched me playing through arkham asylum on pc and we all know how gorgeous that looks.

Another of my friends who had never experienced what S3D gaming is all about stopped by this week. Knowing that he'd viewed a few movies at the local theater in "holywood 3D" and seemingly was always puzzled with my S3D gaming addiction I offered him a pair of glasses and brought "Tomb Raider 2013" up on my 43" plasma and ran the benchmark for a quick demo. "wholly crap! This is a game? You control her?", "Well no, this is just the benchmark, here's the game..." After steering Lara through everything from wide open to some crawl spaces he could understand why I liked S3D so much and asked WTF was up with the lackluster S3D that is offered in the theater. (sigh) Outside of a few titles I can usually count on one hand the number of actual S3D scenes that are in holywoods "3D" releases.

I'd buy it again to play in 3D on PC but unfortunately out of the 'Big 3' only Microsoft has ever seemed to be interested in it as a platform. It's great that you can replay some of your older console games in 3D but I can't see that happening for a very long time for anything current or next gen, even some of the previous gen hasn't even been emulated yet. We're going to have to rely on either games being multiplatform or them supporting it natively on the system.

The one thing that makes 3D gaming miles better than 3D films is being able to change convergence in my opinion. If you were able to change the convergence on a film to toyify it, for example, it would be spectacular. Unfortunately when a film is filmed with the RED camera or similar, it's locked to that converge, and that is what 99% of the people that have seen stereo 3D think that's as far or as good as it gets.

"Haters", a derogatory term in reference to critics of a person or object. Haters gonna hate. So many simply take the words of others and quickly dismiss 3D as a worthless gimmick or they try it, then dismiss it as garbage because of their half assed attempt. It's an unfortunate shame that these people may never realize how wonderful stereoscopic gameplay can be. The bigger shame unfortunately is the impact it has on those of us that do enjoy it.

The problem is there really is no place to actually see 3D vision in action. When i first bought my monitor it was a gamble on my part because i had no clue what i was getting into. At $500 too it was a pretty big gamble. Honestly if i didnt have a decent paying job i would have never bought one and i can see why people would be hesitant to give it a shot at that price. Honestly i think the monitors are still price to high which is why i dont think 3D vision is that popular. You can run 2D surround for the price of one 3D vision monitor. I hated 3D movies in theaters and my friends 2D to 3D conversion TV sucked so i already had a bad impression of 3D off the bat. I remember reading up on it for like 3 months before i just bit the bullet and bought one. Let me just say there is alot more 3D hate out there then 3D love. But if you read those 3D hate threads one after another after another you begin to realize alot of people just jump on the 3D hate train. They have never tried 3D vision and are just judging it by movies and 3dtv's like i was. The only reason i got convinced to buy it in the sea of hate was because the few people i honestly believed were using 3D Vision were very vocal about there impressions. In my opinion nvidia is just handling 3D vision horribly from the start. Its there own fault it never caught on like it should. I drive trucks for a living and have been to multiple states, i drive by big name box computer stores here and there and usually always pull over to stop in. Out of the 30 i have probably been to in the past few years i have never once see a 3D monitor on display. They carry them but there in the box on the shelf. You have a unique item that you have to see to believe but your not showing it off. Who is going to buy a $500 monitor thats not on display over a $200 monitor you can look at. The "3D Vision Ready" sticker is not a selling point if you have to spend 2 to 3 times as much then bring it home to get an idea how it looks or works. Then they go and set the depth low, lock convergence, and hide the shortcuts so when you finally throw down the cash and hook it up your disappointed. Not to mention alot of the 3D monitors out there set there display settings horribly. People who are casual gamers and want to give 3D vision a shot dont want to spend $500 then go though a process to make it work when nvidia could have easily done it for them. You just really can expect your product to sell when you dont even give the effort to set it up right. I just recently a few months ago went to PAX East because i get free tickets every year. Nvidia had a massive booth. They had computers there with 680's, 690's and Titans in them letting people play metro last light, dead island riptide and star craft 2. Every single computer there out of the like 50 were hooked up to 3D monitors with a sticker on them saying 3D Vision Ready. The problem was there was not ONE pair of 3D glasses anywhere to be found. You got Metro Last Light and Starcraft with work great in 3D vision playing on almost 30 screens hooked up to 3D monitors but your not going to bother to show off 3D vision. The place was packed with thousands of people, with every big name gaming website writers wondering around reporting on everything. While about a million of gamers are online reading about the newest games/reports on there websites and your going to let your tech and free publicity go to waste. To me it honestly just felt like they just didnt care at all about 3d vision anymore and are fine if it just dies off. Which is just sad. It wouldnt have been hard to come up with 50 pairs of glasses tied to a sting with a little sign saying "hit ctrl+t to see this game in its 3D glory". All it takes if a few game producers and writers to try it out, get excited and write about it.

I said in another thread before that the screens in the HMZ need a border round them so you can distinguish the smaller 3d detail. I basically want the future, now :)

Home cinema is just as in-depth and technical as PC gaming. Matching specifications with different amps, displays, speakers, cables, interconnects, calibrating your audio and video to match the room, placing the speakers, reading up on 100's of reviews when you want to change your gear etc... The stuff is endless, so even something as simple as watching a 3D film can have a complicated background. Just ask any of the projector users in this forum how much research they had to do before getting everything "just right". Setting up a PC for 3D is pretty simple for anyone who can install a driver, copy 3D fix files into the right directory, and press a few buttons to make the depth and convergence match their eyes. The big mystery is choosing the right 3D hardware in the first place.
