GTX 580 Released It is better and faster than GTX 480

Technically speaking, they should've called it the 485, then made the 495 a Dual-GPU solution of the 580's chip.

Eh, I think they're not "copying" ATI, they're simply doing the 5xx-series because the 6xx-series will be a whole new architecture and they did not wanna be using 485 and 495, even though they probably should've. I think both ATI's idea, and this idea, is dumb though, they should've just named'em 485/495 and 5995 or whatever.

I would have liked it to be called the 485 too. I think the reason they went with the new naming scheme is because they want to redo the entire lineup. The 580 was a rush job (great card though) that they needed to get out in time for the holiday sales and to stay ahead of the 6970. They did a really good job packing a 10% clock increase with +6% shaders into the power usage of the 480s. The cooler is amazing but the PCB is almost the same as the 480's. In the Spring they will have a 580 refresh with a resdigned PCB and hopefully with 3GB for all those triple screen setups. I would like to see someone put the 580's cooler onto a 480. The 570 looks like its going to be a beast and should be out this year.

Once you make the initial cash outlay for a high end rig it doesn't cost that much(relatively speaking) to upgrade every now and then. You can sell your old cards for a large chunk of what the new ones cost and its like a few hundred bucks every year or two.

.... having a Zotac AMP GTX 480 which is almost noiseless, helps.

Yep, these 3 slot coolers are amazing. Maybe with the new cases that have 9-10 slots someone can finally Triple-SLI them!
