Upgrade to Asus Rog Swift and 3D Vision 2 ?
  1 / 2
I am currently running 3D Vision's first incarnation with an Acer HN274H and a single GTX 980. Really tempted to upgrade to the Asus Rog Swift and buy a 3D Vision 2-kit. Planning to play GTA V with it. I read about some people running a SLI 980 setup and they love it. Does anyone know how good a single GTX 980 will perform with the Rog Swift? I am not planning to buy an additional GTX 980 in the near future. Upgrade or stick with my current setup? Thanks for any thoughts!

I tried one time last night on one gtx 680 and that was great on High details and old drivers - so i think you`ll be better then good.

Did you try it on a ROG SWIFT PG278Q with 2560 x 1440 resolution? The additional power needed for the extra pixels do worry me.

Probably you can do it with one card, but you might have to drop the settings down a bit.

Before you pull the trigger, you should also look into reports of trouble with Rog Swift and SLI specifically. I don't run Swift, so can't comment directly, but there are numerous threads in the forum here about problems. Like: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/787889/3d-vision/3d-vision-and-sli-not-working-correctly-for-asus-rog-swift-pg278q-/ Not sure current state, but you probably want to research a bit.
is this the only 1440p 3d monitor?
Well it is the only one that I know of. I'm happy for someone to let us know about any others. Beware some major retailers are sloppy and have ads on certain monitors and say they are 3d vision ready when they are not. There is a 4k Acer monitor I had to return after learning Amazon and Newegg mistakenly said it had 3d support. To my knowledge there are no 4k 3d monitors. This is your highest resolution 3d option for the most part. I picked up the Rog swift after that and love it. It is true what bo3b says. I'm not sure if it is the monitor or the 1440p part but there does seem to be some issues with it and SLI. For me I have only noticed some games in 3D don't support it, like watch dogs. However there are some that do, like the metro series, and Max Payne 3, and now also GTA V works with sli and the rog swift even if the effectiveness isn't as high as some might want. My recommendation with this monitor would be to always run the most powerful single Nvidia card you can afford. There are some games that are working in sli and hopefully as the monitor matures nvidia, asus and developers will make use if it..

I also did some research on this forum and on the rest of the web and I can confirm that the Rog seems to be the only 1440p 3D Vision monitor. And the SLI problems seems to be present with a lot of games. Fortunately GTA V is working with SLI. Mournz recommondation to always run the most powerful single Nvidia card seems to be very reasonable. What do you know about the inversion problem with the Rog Swift, some people are talking about?

They both perform great and higher resolution is really beneficial to whole experience. I was surprised to see my old gtx680 manage with GTA V so good on high details (40-50 fps).

For about the same price of the SLI setup I would get a Titan X instead for this monitor and not worry about SLI issues as a whole. Sure, performance would be lower than if the SLI worked but SLI has been an issue lately for everyone. You also get a decent amount of video memory to go with it.

I checked out the UFO tests and everything seemed fine for me. 3d will always be a little different and have slight ghosting issues on very bright white backgrounds. Perhaps I'm more forgiving or some people are hyper critical. Other than slightly less sli support I find no reason not to use this monitor when compared to other 1080p 3d monitors. I love the higher resolution.

Returned my Swift for the second time. Ghosting is unacceptable on this monitor, worse then my BenQ 24T. The 3D is better then 1080p 3D, but the high contrast ghosting was too much for me, even when I lowered the contrast to 26.

I also bought and returned the ROG Swift. The big issue for me was the pixel inversion bad in "2D" worse in 3d mode. some games better then other but still present especially white on black. Was just to noticeable for me.

My ROG Swift and the 3D Vison 2-Kit should be here, tomorrow. I will do a comparison between the ROG and my old Acer HN274H and report to you.
