Alice: Madness Returns (Crashing with 3D enabled)

since I wasn't able to make youtube display 3D surround clip properly, I uploaded a 2D surround one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daajK0zdWKw&feature=youtu.be the image is very low, inevitably for compression and uploading, but the basic feel of playing Alice surround should be there...plus 3D, for me, it's right up there as one of the best looking game ever:)
adaptive vsync doesn't work with 3d vision.
Adaptive Vsync works for me with 3D vision enabled. It makes most games that have dips into lower frame rates run much faster then with vsync enabled. For example, with Alice, vsync on (mild stuttering in 3D when turning camera). Vsync off (via ini edit) screen tearing when turning camera. Adaptive Vsync on: No screen tearing and smooth when turning camera. Deadspace 2 for me ran twice as good with adaptive vsync in 3D. with just vsync it noticibly stuttered when turning the camera. Alice works in 3D only if you set AllowNvidiaStereo3d=False. But, now it looks terrible. There is a ghosting similar to what Bioshock 1 had before mana's fix on shaders. For example, in the stream the surface effect doesn't where the projections of alice are. Even the Alice on the menu has ghosting caused by this effect (although it is not quite to obvious). Aka, I'm completely wasting my time here. Kingpin1, can you confirm that the graphics are borked? or are you genuinely getting 100% perfect Nvidia 3D on alice with latest drivers?

Forever, I got pretty significant ghosting in Alice many driver versions ago... what you're seeing is probably normal. Ghosting just isn't such a terribly big deal to me - when I consider whether a game is excellent in 3D or not, ghosting is usually not factored into the equation unless it is just completely atrocious. But to each his own. What I mean by "it isn't a big deal" is that I just accept it as a fallacy of the technology, and consider it an acceptable trade off for being able to game in stereo. Keep in mind I don't have the game installed currently, and probably won't have the chance to try it until this weekend. I'm still using the official 310.. drivers.
Forever, I got pretty significant ghosting in Alice many driver versions ago... what you're seeing is probably normal.
Hey snicker, It's definitely not normal ghosting. It is graphical glitches caused by some sort of malfunction exactly the same as bioshock before the mana patch. With Kingpins fix for me it breaks the 3D, meaning that any effects that happen behind a projection of Alice are broken, such as particle effects disappear or surface textures of river disappear. Going back to 306 drivers completely fix this. I can safely say that this game is one of the best 3D titles available. Ok, sometimes the textures do look like someone painted them from poo on a stick. However, overall the art design is lush and original. Really enjoying it, though think I need a break now. Killed by too many one eyed tea pots.

@foreverseeking, it is a chance that Nvidia change the profile for Alice in the R310+ drivers. With Nvidia Inspector try to use the "Batman AC" profile with Alice (with new drivers)....both profile in older drivers are the same, so if Nvidia change only Alice profile, Batman AC profile should work. Why Nvidia always change profiles....if one profile works just great, why changing.
Why Nvidia always change profiles....if one profile works just great, why changing.
Agreed. If a profile is created for a game it should never be shared with another game it should be duplicated and renamed, an exact copy just separate. That way when changes need to be made you're only editing the Batman profile for Batman, and not for Alice as well, therefore breaking it. It's like a whole company sharing a single word document ... or two. :D

If they changed the profile for Alice it most likely breaks Borderlands 2 also, since part of BL2's fix was to point to Alice's profile. Can anyone running the 314.21 beta check in Nvidia Inspector to make sure Alice's game profile is still linking to it's .exe files?

The only poo will be in your pants! It can be quite a difficult game - those stinking teapots were the bane of my existence at first! Adaptive vsync only turns on when over your monitor refresh rate (in my case 120hz/fps) That is why it is smoother at lower fps as it doesn't cut fps. Vsync cuts into fps when fps is under your monitor hz. Please run fraps, as what you are saying is false. It is clearly documented that adaptive vsync works on nvidia 3D and even nvidia 3D surround. Quite the contrary, it is close to perfect. The reason you are not experiencing such a good experience is that your method of getting 3D to work breaks something within the 3D driver. Roll back the driver to 306 and leave nvidia 3D on in the ini. It is infinitely better than then way you currently have it set. The only graphical problems are that the target reticule is 2D (but with auto lock and colour change on aiming it's not a problem for me)
Okay, I get it... When there are three on you and a couple of black gloop dudes it does get a tad difficult. Great game though. I can see why magazines pointed out graphical problems, ign gave it 7/10.. E.g. But overall this game is stunning, and such a breath of fresh air compared to the dull realism expressed in many modern games. i would give it 10/10 and always argue that techincal wizardsry never makes up for dull design. Here's a game that I never finished which went away on my last format. Just reinstalled from the EA client and loaded it up with 314.21 drivers. After getting by an annoying windows firewall message/popup that I was unable to alt-tab to I enabled all the video options and give it a short test run. Which in turn reminded me way I never had finished it. My game is locked to 30FPS and is in 'letterbox' mode. I'll write off the 'letterbox' to 'artistic choice' but the 30FPS and crummy AA had me exiting the game and playing with the NCP settings in short order. (the game was running in S3D, I followed the cat around for a while before exiting) Now all the game does is crash after selecting a player name. I reset the NCP to defaults and rebooted to no avail. Select name - crash. Where and which .ini file do I need to edit to fix this?
