Well, i was able to test out CB on the ES8000 and ES7500 today and ran into a couple issues. Im a little concerned about input lag and i couldn't really test it under the proper settings. The only way to get the 3D options to show CB as an option you can switch to is to label the input "PC". However, when the input is labeled with PC, then "game mode" is grayed out and unelectable. According to at least one review, "game mode" is necessary for a input lag...and it seems that way, because the input lag was surprisingly high using CB with the "PC" labelled input. Labeling the input "game mode", or any other mode, again, made the CB option disappear from 3D menu.
I think i know what this means....

Sadly your screwed.
Yesterday i had the option of a £1300 e8000 for use with checkerboard or a e6500 for £700.
I allready knew checkerboard was unusable on a es8000 and so it would be on a e8000 plasma so i just brought the cheaper set.
Glad i did'nt spend a bomb just for checkerboard !
Samsunbg top of the range 2012 has some serious input lag with checkerboard but then i believbe it has bad input lag with every 3d option.
On a plusnote, the es8000 has loads less xtalk than the e6500 plasma, that lcd is better than this e6500 for that by quite a margin.

Do you have trumotion/overdrive turned off? It can add lag.
When you say lag, are you talking about delayed input response or a sluggish mouse/cursor?
Have you used fraps at all to see what kinda framerate you are getting? Checked your "ping"?
Maybe it's a case of in-game settings?
As far as I know, when a Checkerboard signal is input all post processing along the lines of underscan/overscan are turned off or else the effect gets ruined. So I'm assuming those things are not adding to the lag.

@Mocca, thank for the info Mocca. Hows the input lag in CB on the D8000? Crosstalk ok?
Yeah, the ES8000's crosstalk level was very, very good, like a lot of 2012 TV's. According to digitalversus, who records the pixel response time, LCD's are getting to be basically as fast as plasma now, while being brighter and more colorful (according to them). You know the crosstalk level is good, when you hit the 2D->3D conversion on the TV and your desktop background looks like an invisible force instantly indented it. On my NX711, you know the 2D->3D conversion just turned on because it turns into a hazy mess of crosstalk, goes dim, starts grunting, etc....
@Dman, I tried a number of games with a similar result, so i think Mocca is right, although i wish i could do some more testing. I did make sure everything i could turn off was off. Its weird that the TV got excellent input lag marks in reviews, yet in 3D it goes caput.
Funny stuff: The guy at the store helping me helped get me set up and said he had a little experience with 3D gaming, mentioning Diablo, but wasn't that into it. I had explained briefly that i wanted to test the CB and input lag on the 8000 and 7500. As soon as we hit the desktop he enabled 2D->3D conversion (oooooooooook...) and basically said, "ya... thats pretty good 3D right there." Then he started saying how he loved something specific about the effect 3D had - i had no idea what he was talking about and was still getting everything ready. He brought it up again once i got done setting up and i sat down. "What, over here?" i said, hovering my mouse button over the start button. He said yeah, but i still didn't get what he was excited about. Then... he explained how he loved how the 3D pushed the screen in beyond the bezel. I looked at it more closely and the convergence had pushed the screen a monstrous grand total of 2 whole inches!!! Talk about lowered expectations!
I then played an uncompressed version of the Mass Effect video i have linked to in my sig and he watched the whole thing. I think i may have blown his mind and introduced him to [real] 3D...

Seeing that it's a brand new TV, have you looked to see if there's a firmware update available? Might get lucky and find that there's one available that improves lag.

I did'nt get the e8000 as out of the 2012 models that was stated to have the highest input lag in 2d which probly would of equate to more lag for 3d and i dont think i'd of been happy having a top of the range tv that does top of the range 3dtvplay checkerboard but would of ben unusable due to 3d games having too much input lag.
So i just got a cheap set that i knew would be a bad 3d performer but i got it for 2d 1080p blurless/ghostless gaming which it does very good indeed.
I'd of loved the e8000, shame sammy dont unlock checkerboard for all 3d models as there lower end ones have less input lag according hdtvtest.
Allso 3dtvplay has pretty darn good input lag, not 1.1 but good, much better than all the lcd 3dtv's i've had.

I don't want to say for certain, but I'm pretty sure PC output already has the Game Mode optimizations turned on. Basically, Game Mode just turns off the true motion/frame interpolation signal processing that introduces input lag. PC mode has this turned off by default so you get true 60Hz "through" mode, as does Game Mode (for the consolers).
In any case, there wasn't any excessive input lag playing in CB 3D on my D7000 or AC3 in 2D with a 360 controller, but I would certainly try and test before plunking down a grand.
It sounds like they've fixed crosstalk a good bit on the 2012 models however, there's still quite a bit on the 2011s. My VG278H has a good bit less ghosting compared to my D7000.

@Chiz1
That d7000 is a plasma?
I find lcd's to have alot of input lag in 3d but just getting a ps51e6500 the 3dinput lag is so close to 2d that for me it does'nt effect anything, i wonder do plasma's have better input lag in 3d ??
That's something i can't prove myself as if i'd of had 3 3d plasmas and all had good 3d input lag and had 3 lcd and all had bad 3d input lag then i'd know but i only ever had lcd one after the other ;)
The 2012 sammy i have has considerable amount of xtalk in a crosstalk test but in real life it's only noticable here and there, unlike the 3d dlp pj's that are xtalk free even on the most extreme scenes and with massive amounts of depth.
I can't say if its any better than like for like 20111 models as i never had a plasma then.

I read an article a few years back that discussed how LCD manufacturers would overdrive the panel crystals to reduce input lag but that it would induce ghosting as a side effect. You'd think that by now it would be implemented better and no longer a problem, within the limitations that the technology allows.
AMD has a slider that allows the user to enable and adjust overdrive. I've never messed with it, so I'm not sure how good it works. Perhaps there is a program that can be used with a Nvidia GPU that can do the same? Powerstrip perhaps?

Hi Libertine and Mocca,
Couple of questions...
1> I notice you say that you rename 'something' to PC to get CB option to show up, i assume you mean i rename my HDMI/DVI 1 input on the Sammy to PC and then the Check Board option will show up when i hit the 3D button on the remote? I have the option selected in Windows 8 under the Nvidia panel, but it simply doesnt work in the games.
2> I did get 1080p 24fps to work fine, but i must say it didnt look very good, bushes seemed to sit on a different plane, some objects would appear to be in 2D. Games tested, Borderlands 2, Crysis 1, Far Cry 3. I do have Crysis 2 which rated 'Excellent' by the 3D vision software so im hoping things get better. Do you guys have to play around with settings in games like the ones i mentioned or does it just work beautifully for you guys?
So far i am very impressed with this tv, the 3D SBS movies look awesome, Avengers for one. The normal 2D games run beautifully and the mouse is very responsive. Win 8 desktop looks bloody nice once you adjust the colour.

1. Yeah. Do you see the option for CB when you hit the 3D button on the remote?
2. 1080p24 should have the same 3D dimensionality as 720p60. Thats weird. Do you get huge input lag with 1080p24? Crysis 2 uses 2D-3D conversion, basically. I think Tridef does full 3D though with Crysis 2?
I thought the colors, crosstalk and brightness in 3D were very good. Its a shame about the input lag. I would have bought it.

Last night i set the HDMI1 label to PC and viola, CB as enabled. I noticed it ripped out all the settings for colour that i had set etc.. I tried a few games and they work well, im not sure i get what you guys are saying regarding input lag. i move the mouse, the screen moves at the same time? its just like when im in 2D.
Some games look better than others, but its still sorta hard to look at as not everything feels like its at the right depth. Both CB, 1080p 24fps and 720p 60fps all have the same depth. is it my eyes? its just movies and the nvidia demo slide deck all seem to sit nicely on the screen, games have weird things like cross over gun cursors, some bushes and mountains looking a bit odd.

The D7000 is LED LCD, higher-end 2011 Samsung model just below their top-end D8000. I only tried games with the 360 controller so it's harder to gauge, no FPS or twitch fast-paced games like Diablo 3 or SC2 or anything. Can't compare against plasma in terms of input lag either but overall I found the controls to be good/responsive. We also played through Trine 1/2 on this panel and didn't have any negative impression about input lag.
In terms of crosstalk, I'd say its slightly better than 1st gen AW2310, definitely brighter due to the glasses allowing more light on the Samsung compared to 3DV1 panels. But overall the D7000 has a good bit more crosstalk than the VG278H but 3DV2 provides similar brightness.

Ideally, [for a realistic look anyway] you want the depth so that the separation of objects on the horizon cause your eyes to stare almost straight on, like they would in real life. Thats if you can tolerate the depth. (Going JUST a bit further can make things appear larger, nice if your standing in the Presidium in Mass Effect for example.) Is that what you have now?
What size is your screen? I have heard of different size screen being made in different parts of the world and getting very different results in reviews.

off course the depth key, im also checking out the helix site, i noticed he would map the depth key for all games i read about.
its a 65" es8000. time to try some helix fixes

AMD has a slider that allows the user to enable and adjust overdrive. I've never messed with it, so I'm not sure how good it works. Perhaps there is a program that can be used with a Nvidia GPU that can do the same? Powerstrip perhaps?
