I explained above why you are seeing better results with their "cheaty" engine in SBS... That is not PROPER SBS mode... but HALF Width SBS mode...
Hi Helifax :)
I'm not sure to understand why you called it not proper (cheaty) SBS mode as for me it seems that "Half with SBS mode" is The Way SBS or TB should be rendered on screen.
It exactly rendered the pixels that are on the screen (2x 960 x1080 for SBS and 2 x 1920 x540 for TB) and not rendered twice the pixels shown in the screen like the new SBS and TB 3Dmogoto mode (it calculated 2 x 1080 x1920 and show only half in the screen so a huge loose of perf for nothing (like our 4k interlieved mode works too)
Yes, the OUTPUT resolution of SBS is 2x960x1080. 3D Vision Renders DOUBLE that cause you get FULL 2x1920x1080.
Now back to SBS, their engine "cheats" cause is not rendering each frame as FULL 1080p and then Downscale it to HALF the width 960x1080. It renders it directly at 960x1080. As a Result you loose quality, but gain FPS (it's like running the game at 720p but STRETCHED at 1080p)
The same principle is how Nvidia's DSR works. Frames are rendered at 4K but downscaled to 1080p;) AND YOU CAN SEE the difference no?:) The same is in their engine;) Cheat;)) (Or you can call it "Optimization" if you like that term but is not true;) )
I wonder if running the game with Nvidia DSR x4 (4k) then using SBS would help with the quality.
I guess I can use SBS when I am stream to my steam link (if I ever power that back on) which is connected to my 3D tv.
Directly render engine in TB or SBS in all games would be a marvelous option for 3D tv
Our 4K passive TVs STRONGLY prefer interleaved format (not standard TB) to SBS 3D format, since SBS reduces rendered resolution for our type of TV. For example, with the native (developer's) Rise of the Tomb Raider restriction to SBS 3D format, we must process 3840x2160 pixels to view 1920x1080 display, while the GREAT 3D community fix enables double the resolution (3840x1080 pixels in each eye), with the same processing.
By the way, I, for one, would like to have seen everyone's actual PayPal addresses included in the superb helixmod.blogspot fix... This fix, like many others (still playing through Phantom Pain), has been a heroic, complex effort that we 3D enthusiasts, the game developers, and NVIDIA should acknowledge!

I'm still perplex with your comment and I would rather say "with the native (developer's) Rise of the Tomb Raider restriction to SBS 3D format, we must process 2 x 1920x2160 pixels to view 1920x2160 x2 display (SBS), while the GREAT 3D community fix (and so as the dev'patch in 3dvision mode) enables double the resolution (3840x1080 display in each eye for interlieved 4k) with a 4k (2 x 3840 x 2160) processing, so twice the dev's SBS processing. That's explain dev'SBS has twice FPS than regular 3dvision isn't it (because it renders half the pixels)?

Do you mean that standard TB on our 4k TV 3d passive, is not 3840 x 1080 display per eye (with the recent Top and Bottom 3D patch from DarkStarSword for example?).

I followed the installation guide for the fix to the letter. Unfortunately 3D doesn't kick in now. The game launches in 2D only!
I am using the newest drivers 362.00
I am also using the game's recommended version (build610_1)
1. Opened Nvidia Inspector, clicked on "Import user defined profiles" --> Chose helifax .nip-file and got the message that the profile was succesfully imported (although of course there already was a "Rise of the Tomb Raider" before I imported helifax' profile. So did I overwrite the old one or is it attached somehow?) After importing the helifax profile I couldn't see any differences in the values although it was succesfully imported. Is there a particular line where I can check if any changes have been made to the profile?
2. Exported the profile database, swapped the Tomb Raider profile with the lines that helifax gave us
3. Imported the updated profile via profile manager
4. Then of course I installed the patch itself in the directory where the .exe is located.
As I said now it is 2D only for me :-(

Just to be sure, do you have stereoscopic 3D enabled in Nvidia Control Panel?
I had issues as well at first as I am new to these fixes. However I downloaded the 362.00 driver from Nvidia website and manually installed driver checking the box "clean install". This reset my profiles, which I must had screwed up, and after re-importing the NIP file using "inspector" 3D kicked in as described.
I started a fresh game, just got to soviet installation and my FPS immediatley droped to 19ish. I was running ~40 up until this point. I guess time to turn pure hair off and optimize settings for my build.
Cheers, hope it helps

@helifax: I have tested the offical 3D-vision patch from Nixxes yesterday and I was not very satisfied, because there were a lot of rendering issues. Today I have tested your fix, and I can only bow to you. You guys have my greatest respect! If you have a donation pool or something like, please tell me the address.
I play the game in 1440p+SMAA, and even my 1,54 GHz Titan X is not capable to render at 60 FPS. :)

- Follow "ALL THE STEPS" from the "Installing & Configuring the Fix" section above!!!
=================================
Installing & Configuring the Fix:
=================================
- To install the fix, simply copy ALL the files from the RAR archive (found below) in the game's folder (next to the .exe file).
3D Vision Single Screen:
- Open "d3dx.ini" file
- In this section modify "x=" to any value you want to use for the UI depth.
[Constants]
; UI depth factor
x = 0.5
; Surround = 1, Single Screen = 0
y = 0.0
; Enable or Disable PureHair Animations? 0 = Disabled; 1 = Enabled.
; ENABLE THIS TO FIX THE PureHair SLI sync ISSUES!!!!
x1 = 1.0;
; Not used.
;y1 = 0;
;z1 = 0;
;w1 = 0;
3D Vision Surround:
- Open "d3dx.ini" file
- In this section modify "x=" to any value you want to use for the UI depth.
- In this section set "y=1.0" to enable Surround scaling.
[Constants]
; UI depth factor
x = 0.5
; Surround = 1, Single Screen = 0
y = 1.0

; ENABLE THIS TO FIX THE PureHair SLI sync ISSUES!!!!
x1 = 0.0;
; Not used.
;y1 = 0;
;z1 = 0;
;w1 = 0;
- Scroll down and find the key bindings section and set "w=1.0" for correct crosshair scaling in Surround:
; XBOX controller
[KeyAimining1]
Key = XB_LEFT_TRIGGER
; Single Screen 3D Vision = 0.0; Nvidia 3D Surround = 1.0;
w = 1.0
; DO NOT CHANGE
z = 1.0
type=hold

[KeyAimining2]
Key = VK_RBUTTON
; Single Screen 3D Vision = 0.0; Nvidia 3D Surround = 1.0;
w = 1.0
; DO NOT CHANGE
z = 1.0
type=hold
- Do not modify any of the other constants!!! or the crosshair will be broken.
Main Page has been updated as well!
Edit:
Interested if you see any FPS improvements in non-SLI/SLI when some of the animations are disabled.
on SLI this should always be disabled to remove problems.

Very interesting development of events:
Nixxies just contacted me regarding our fix:
Hi Helifax,
I’m contacting you regarding your work on Rise of the Tomb Raider community 3DVision support. My name is XXX XXX (I removed the name for privacy reasons) and I am the studio head for Nixxes Software BV, working with Crystal Dynamics on the game.
First of all, let me say we are extremely impressed by the hard work you (and the people you worked with in the community) have put into support 3DVision in our game, and the passion, dedication, and reverse engineering skills that show from this. I would also like to apologize we couldn’t let you know in advance we had an official 3DVision patch in the works as well. As we mentioned in our patch notes, we know it is a feature many users like to see, and especially without knowing the community had such results ready to release, where very happy to be able to deliver it to users as well.
If you are interested we would like to work with you and the other guys involved in the fix to ensure any suggestions you have for improvements to the official 3DVision patch get made, or at least get all issues identified so we can try to make fixes.
Do you happen to have the e-mail address for DarkStarSword, he is one of the other community fixers we would love to reach out to, at least to express our compliments on a job well done.
Thanks,
(Signature removed for privacy reasons)

This is actually a very interesting turn of events and A FIRST ONE!!!
Not only they released a POST-RELEASE PATCH FOR 3D Vision, BUT NOW there is the opportunity to work with them and help them IRON OUT THE OFFICIAL PATCH!!!
All I can say is they are definitely ONE OF THE BEST DEVS out there and they have all my RESPECT!
I will let you know how things will develop with this, but I am actually keen and interested in porting all our fixes to the "main branch" :)
Cheers,
Helifax

Well done helifax & co, you guys deserve some much earned recognition.
Indeed this is an interesting turn of events, on the assumption you work with them and release a better fix, we should direct some other devs to this collaborative work- perhaps a start of things to come...

Well thats good news.
Its great that
A. They gave a shit about 3d vision.
B. They put time into it. Sure it had problems but they cared enough about it in first place.
C. They are willing to put more time into it.
Hopefully everything can be ironed out. Would be great if they continue support towards deus ex release which is my most anticipated game this year BY FAR.
--------------------
Its important to note that while there have been issues with some of the 3D vision square enix titles aside from original Tomb Raider. They are the ones who are responsible for bringing support to Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Thief
And honestly thats like 3 of like 7 games with official support in last 3 years.

If this bit of cooperation works out nicely, I bet we can tell them that we can work with them on Deus EX as well and maybe by doing this we can actually make the game 3D Vision Ready compatible officially!
But yea, I agree they look and are very dedicated to it! Which is a very good thing! Not only they provide very good PC ports but now they are actually interested in 3D Vision and Stereo 3D as well!
An awesome developer just got more awesome;)

Really great that devs contact you helifax (i bet the guys of Nixxes play others games you our fixes...jejeje)
Hope they can sort out all the issues.
Now talking about the community fix:
In the Stutter/low fps side because of the amount of shaders shipped....Helifax, if you have finish the game you will have all the .BIN files generated.....is possible you make a .zip with only the .BIN files you have, to use that files in the ShaderFixes folder?
I almost finish the Soviet camp chapter and i have 8.000+ BIN files generated over the 35.000 txt shaders. BIN files suppose to load better/faster, so may speed up things....it's a CRAZY idea, but may work!!

I wonder if running the game with Nvidia DSR x4 (4k) then using SBS would help with the quality.
I guess I can use SBS when I am stream to my steam link (if I ever power that back on) which is connected to my 3D tv.

As I said now it is 2D only for me :-(
I had issues as well at first as I am new to these fixes.
I play the game in 1440p+SMAA, and even my 1,54 GHz Titan X is not capable to render at 60 FPS. :)

Fixed:
- 3rd of March 2016 - Added ability to disable SOME of the PureHair Animations to FIX SLI BUG. This might also be useful for other people as it seems to increase performance by a bit!
Re-posting here for simplicity:
==================================
UPGRADING from a previous version:
==================================
- Navigate to the Game Folder
- Run "uninstall.bat"
- Download the archive again
- Follow "ALL THE STEPS" from the "Installing & Configuring the Fix" section above!!!
=================================
Installing & Configuring the Fix:
=================================
- To install the fix, simply copy ALL the files from the RAR archive (found below) in the game's folder (next to the .exe file).
3D Vision Single Screen:
- Open "d3dx.ini" file
- In this section modify "x=" to any value you want to use for the UI depth.
3D Vision Surround:
- Open "d3dx.ini" file
- In this section modify "x=" to any value you want to use for the UI depth.
- In this section set "y=1.0" to enable Surround scaling.
- Scroll down and find the key bindings section and set "w=1.0" for correct crosshair scaling in Surround:
- Do not modify any of the other constants!!! or the crosshair will be broken.
Main Page has been updated as well!
Edit:
Interested if you see any FPS improvements in non-SLI/SLI when some of the animations are disabled.
on SLI this should always be disabled to remove problems.

Nixxies just contacted me regarding our fix:
This is actually a very interesting turn of events and A FIRST ONE!!!
Not only they released a POST-RELEASE PATCH FOR 3D Vision, BUT NOW there is the opportunity to work with them and help them IRON OUT THE OFFICIAL PATCH!!!
All I can say is they are definitely ONE OF THE BEST DEVS out there and they have all my RESPECT!
I will let you know how things will develop with this, but I am actually keen and interested in porting all our fixes to the "main branch" :)
Cheers,
Helifax

Indeed this is an interesting turn of events, on the assumption you work with them and release a better fix, we should direct some other devs to this collaborative work- perhaps a start of things to come...
