I think the audio in port just passes straight through to the audio output port when using VGA input (since VGA does not carry it's own sound) - that's all I'm using it for anyway.

That's just an audio in input, so that you can run a separate audio cable if you are using a VGA cable (AFAIK). VGA cables can not carry audio, so people will buy VGA cables that include an audio cable bundled/integrated into it.

I don't think it would even work if you were using an ARC HDMI cable if the HDMI port has ARC capabilities.

sorry I don't understand why you speak of the VGA cable. I obviously uses the HDMI (and I don't understand how to do without it for 3D ?!) .
The W1070 speakers work well so there is sound that passes through this cable from the PC, but I don't understand why there would not be sound of audio-in source of W1070 going to PC .

I don't know if this is really what you meant, but there is no sound coming from the speakers when I speak into the mic plugged into w1070 .
So I feel that the microphone jack is useless and I'm good to buy a new extension cable making that space between my PC and my couch looks more and more like a fishing net, with my K & M, my Steam controller, my Flight Hotas ,my TrackIR ... all that to escape a few hours in the week of the threads of daily annoyances ... Trap ! :)

The AUDIO IN is specifically there so that "IF" you are using a VGA cable, you can connect an audio source and use the speakers that are built in. It is not meant to be a "microphone in" connection.
HDMI can carry sound on the cable, so there is no need for additional connections to use the Projectors Speakers.
You can get a Bluetooth microphone.
Or wireless headset like G930, the power doesn't last very long on them though :(
i've just bought this one (http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B004YEWC22?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) to use with VoiceAttack in Elite Dangerous and Arma 3 . A great step forward in immersion .
I'm almost certain that it can't. You might get it to come out over the projector speakers, but it would never communicate back to the computer.
As far as I know, special software is needed to process a microphone input.
Try it with your HDMI disconnected or see if there's an option in the menu to select audio input.
i already tried these solutions but i'll do more research later , because right now i've just discovered another problem to solve : no more 3dTV play (3D discover) after installation of my new CG (and drivers 361.43)! :(
i've to remember the procedure to my start in 3D for installing 3DTV Play. The spider wraps me more :))
... And i cannot find my serial number ! Shit !!
