Not sure I understand. Opengl will not likely be supported but they will support Rage (which is opengl) in October. What does that mean? What is ETQW?

As far as I know uses Rage Direct-3D on X-Box and PC, OpenGL is only used for PS3.
That would make 3D Vision support possible.
Interestingly, Hollenshead also mentions that id Tech 5 is based on Microsoft's Direct3D application programming interface rather than OpenGL—a dramatic departure for John Carmack, who's been using OpenGL to develop id games since the original GLQuake in 1997. That said, an OpenGL flavor of id Tech 5 is apparently up and running: Beyond3D says the Mac version of Rage uses the API, and the first demo of the game was on a Mac.

"First-person shooter godfather and OpenGL stickler John Carmack has revealed that he now prefers Direct3D to OpenGL, saying that 'inertia' is the main reason why id Software has stuck by the cross-platform 3D graphics API for years. In a recent interview, the co-founder of id Software said, 'I actually think that Direct3D is a rather better API today.' He added, 'Microsoft had the courage to continue making significant incompatible changes to improve the API, while OpenGL has been held back by compatibility concerns. Direct3D handles multi-threading better, and newer versions manage state better.'"
There really is quite a few OpenGl games that I would love to be able to run in 3d. Darkplaces (Quake source port) and eDuke32 (Duke 3d source port) are at the top of the list. Penumbra would be great. Clearly Doom 3 would be awesome. Neverwinter Nights would be great. I know that I'm missing a couple of games that I've wanted to try in 3d recently.
