I was first suggesting an EDID hack to enable 3D Vision so he could use hid Nvidia 3D Vision kit. I don't think he ever tried it.
Now he just wants to use the EDID from the H5360BD that mocca has and install it, since his projector is not being recognized. <----this would not be an EDID hack
Yes, DVI and HDMI are compatible, the GPU can tell the connection you are making from the information supplied by the display.
So if you connect via VGA, the GPU sends analog signals.
If you connect via DVI/HDMI, it sends a digital signal.
Like Flugan says, if you have access to another cvomputer try it.

Just to be clear. If you used a DVI to HDMI cable, with the HDMI end connected to the projector, your GPU would see it as a HDCP HDMI compatible display. You would then be able to use 3DTV Play as long as you have your Nvidia emitter connected or if you purchased a license for 3DTV Play.

OK, when you say it's not recognizing it, what do you mean?
Do you mean 3DTV Play is not enabling?
Or in Device manager it shows as generic and does not list the display?
It may not show up as an Acer, instead it may show up as a Delta or one of the other projector manufacturers. Acer I'm pretty sure just has it made for them and slaps their name on it. But it should not show up as "Generic Plug and Play"
Have you tried hooking up a TV or Monitor, to see if they'd be detected? It was suggested earlier to do so. Remember to try clicking detect and rebooting, it should be detected.
Plus........You never verified if you tried overriding the EDID previously with the older h5360's EDID. If you haven't don't, if you have remove it. Because that was to make it work with 3D Vision and the Nvidia glasses you had.
We're trying now to make it work with 3DTV Play and your DLP Link glasses.

Hi
Owner of a 5360BD here. It is normal that in the Device Manager the Projector is detected as a PnP Monitor.
In Nvidia Control Panel it is detectet as H5360BD.
Now you can use DLP Glasses. Be sure to set the resolution to 1280x720 with 60hz refresh rate.

Well that's odd, I use W7 64bit and looking in my device manager every monitor is listed by name/model.
Whenever it would be listed as plug and play, I couldn't activate 3D in the control panel. But the last driver I was using was 295.
Just to bring you up to speed i am attempting to send the projector back to ACER to inspect. I have had to replace it with my old pixel frozen PJ but as usual UPS are being the lying gits that they normally are about collecting it

This is indeed a supported projector. May want to check that both of your cables are high speed cables and not just standard cables.
We can't fix your bug if we can't reproduce it. Please provide as much details as possible including specs, steps to reproduce, graphics settings used, etc..

Just to bring you all up to speed on this. I returned the projector to acer for repair. After a lot of faffing about that took 2 weeks, they finally decided that the projector was broken and that they couldn't replace it as they had none in stock??!!
They have promised me a refund and in the meantime I have brought a replacement which works like a dream.
Which brings me on to some questions. I am thinking of buying either a PS3 or an Xbox. Which would you recommend? Is it only the games with a 3d logo on them that will work?

Very weird, I'm glad you have a working setup once again.
I would buy the PS3, it makes a great 3D Blu-ray player.
You can google lists of games that each have that are 3D capable.
