H5360 RS232 codes?
It would be nice to know what the RS-232 codes are into that projector so we can control it remotely without having to use the remote.

Does anyone know what those codes would be? Any parameters needed 9600,8,1,none?

I'd love to be able to switch it from HDMI to VGA or to enable eco mode or change the 3D mode automatically.

Thanks!

I registered my projector on the Acer site and then was able to ask support questions.

I asked to get a list of the RS-232 commands for the H5360 and they came back with the answer: "Yes, the H5360 has a RS-232 connector"...

Yeah I know that - then my next email with them re-iterated my need for the commands.

They sent me a link to the User's Guide... which contains no RS-232 commands.

After explaining slowly and in excrutiating details. They told me I needed to call phone support.

... I will be doing that before the end of the week.

I'll keep you informed.

OMG - Acer support is of stupendous non-help useless cr...

After being bounced around from Mail Support to Phone Support (5 different numbers they gave me) the last one being the first one I called to - so full circle...

No answers....

Did more web research. It happens that all Acer projectors share more or less the same codes, so here they are for your playing pleasure.

I don't know if they really work - I will try that a little later on. My issue is with the connector - It's an RS-232 Mini-Din 3... Couldn't find the sucker anywhere until something weird turned out... In the Nvidia 3D Vision box there is a Mini Din 3 pin for for stereo connection of a DLP 3D machines for sync... Well, isn't that special...

The connector is a Mini Din 3 on one end but an RCA mini phone jack on the other end. Here is something that I DON'T know. What is the Pinout of the DIN 3 on the H5360... I guess I will have to experiment.

On the DB9 side of the house, it should be easy - Pin 2 - 3 and 5 (receive - transmit - ground) - now which one is which on the H5360... I'll play Acer Roulette and let you know...

So here are the codes:

No Code (character) Function feature
1 OKOKOKOKOK\r Power On

Time to resurrect the thread...

I've made a cable, and checked voltages and resistances to discover pinout for RS232.
It's consistent with one in this service manual: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/Manuals/acer/2011/ServiceGuides/SG_S5201M_20100827.pdf

RS232 params are indeed 9600,8,N,1.

However, it does not echo any characters back, and commands for other Acer projectors have no effect.
I guess it simply doesn't have RS232 control. RS232 port is probably there only for diagnostics / firmware updates.

On powerup and shutdown, the projector prints some info to the console.
Also, it seems to have firmware update mode when you plug in mains cord while holding "power" button (purple led = fw update mode).
