How do I increase frame rate while 3D is Enabled (I used Red and Blue) I have a Geforce GTX 460 1GB
I was just wondering if there is anything I can do or any tips for increasing the frame rate of games while using 3D. I play battlefield bad company 2 in 3D and get around 20fps(Same as almost all of the new games I play while 3D is enabled.)I use pretty much maxed out settings so I expect many of you to tell me to lower them but the thing is I tried that and still get the same exact number. I turned all Assasins creed brotherhood settings to half and shadows to 1 and even lowered the resolution to 720 and got the same results as everything maxed out on 1080p. As stated I use the Red and Blue 3D. I obviously would rather having the graphics to look great so I do have my graphics card set to quality. My specs are CPU:AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition clocked at 3.2 GPU: PNY Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 1GB Edition Monitor and motherboard both ASUS (Dont see why that matters) my monitor has a refresh rate of 60HZ. Im running windows 7 ultimate 64Bit. My driver is 270.51 Beta.(Working better than the 266.58)

Hello mate, I have noticed some settings you do not need and some which can be lowered.

I think DoF is obsolete because we are playing in 3D anyway, but things like jaggies are less noticable in 3D (pressumably because we can use our depth perception we dont need the edges of objects to decern where objects are in relation to each other) consequently I have found FSAA can be lowered (I have even tried turning it off and have forgotted about the jaggies) something I have never been able to do in 2D!

For AC look for tweak guides and you can lower shadow resolution. For BC2, you might need to set object detail to medium (low is horrid!)

Of course, it is all subjective...

well for assassins creed I turned off multisampling which was originally off but forced in the nvidia control panel. I also made sure any antialiasing or anything like that was all off from the control panel because there is no options for it in game and it made no difference at all. The average fps was still around 20. As for battlefield your suggestions worked great for gaining FPS. I got about 10 more than i normally was with 3D so I was left with about 30 with all advanced settings on medium and MSAA and Antiailiasing off. I obviously noticed that the graphics weren't as good so i turned it all back up to high and it stayed at 30 but dipped into 25. With any MSAA or AA on at all it automatically dropped down to 20 which really sucks because your right with the 3D glasses on you dont notice jaggings but with BFBC2 it made everything look awful. I'll keep the tips in mind but I still want to try more because I dont see any reason why these games are doing this. In GTA4 maxed out with 3D on I'm getting around 45-50FPS and if I can normally max out Assassins creed and get 30-60FPS I dont understand why its a constant 20FPS with 3D. Yes for the most part 3D cuts FPS in half but I just feel like I should be getting more performance.

What framerate counter did you use?. I use a GTX 580 with gta4, i'm not sure but i don't think i'm getting those results you are?, i can't max out the game on the GTX 580 because there is not enough gpu memory. I suppose one would need tri or quad sli?.

I'm Using fraps. There is a trick to getting around the memory max out issue. Rockstar has no clue how to make a PC game so in the directory if you make a file called commandline.txt and in it I believe you type -norestrictions it will allow you to max out every setting "at your own risk" but it runs great in buildings I get 90fps but outside it varies. Either way it runs great... The 3D is iffy but has good depth. Since I use red and blue the color is off alot.

I might give that a go, i have most settings as high as possible, but there are times when my 580 struggles in gta4. I usually have nvidia control panel set to application controlled with all my games otherwise i have anomalies, stuttering, slow downs etc.

That's odd because I have no problem at all with everything maxed. Max resolution and all bars at 100 and 16. I have nvidia set to application controlled as well. What processor are you using and how much ram? I'm on 6 cores with 8GB of ram so that helps thIngs move along but a gtx 580!should whoop a gtx 460. Lol. Honestly though the only thing my card struggles with is Metro 2033 with some advanced setting check D... Something other than that I max out everygame i play. 3D is my issue though. I need some 3D tips for better FPS since A. 3D is awesome and B. One last thing to conquer lol.

One thing I'll add is that I don't use Vsync and have it on "force off"

Well, like i said i'm new at 3D gaming and learning the ropes and finding out slowly from individual users and those in the industry for what works and what does not. About the V Sync in 3D, i was lead to believe by andrew@nvidia that V Sync is forced at the driver level for nVidia 3D Vision because of the 60/60 120Hz eye synch, so if you turned vsync off in the game settings it makes no difference. I was under the impression V Sync can not be turned off?. Maybe i should experiment to see what works ok and what don't.

Have you done this?, and i suppose you would have to do the same for the EFLC expansion packs yes?.

EDIT: What do you mean?, new text document?, new folder?, could you explain please, thanks.

EDIT: again, lol. Sussed it out.

No I use vsync off with 3d off. I don't need I 120Hz monitor since I use stereoscopic red and blue 3D. As for the gta4 thing go into the directory where the .exe is and right click. Hit creat new text file. In that file type -norestrictions then save it.

Alright so I pretty much figured out the trick to more FPS while 3D is Enabled. You pretty much want to turn off AA and MSAA or depending on your setup and how good your card(s) is turn them low until you reach the desired frame rate. Thanks for those of you who answered.
In my experience turning down details did very little and in some cases turning down resolution didnt even have any effect. I dont know if 3D uses Vsync but for better frames I always turn that and triple buffer off. I experienced big gains by...
Running Game Booster
Setting Windows advanced system settings under visuals to performance
Turning off anisotropic
turning off antiailiasing
Cuda GPU's to all
Pre rendered frames didnt really matter but 2 worked out for 3D
Single Display
Performance
Power to maximum performance
triple buffer off
Vertical Sync off

This helped for every single game I tested for the 3D

Oh of course yeah, your 3D set up is different to mine. With nvidia 3D Vision i use an asus nvidia 3D Vision Ready monitor @1920x1080 120Hz. With the 3D Vision drivers- V Sync is always on by default at the driver level, you can not turn it off in 3D games and there is a limitation for the monitor settings too, they have been designed this way to work with nvidia 3d. Even though i tried the commandline -norestriction hack for gta4 and setting the nvidia control panel to vsyn off there was no gain, kind of odd but then realised the 3d driver defaults to vsync always on, apparentley it is a requirement for the set up i have. Some may disagree but i could not tell any difference with vsync on or off.
