Yeap. It seems like the scene is getting culled by some triangles. Mine is on the right edge of the screen. Only happens in dungeons.

Try this one:

1- Go to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim
2- Open SkyrimPrefs.ini, and search for [General] section
3- Add fdefaultfov=XX at the end of the section. (where XX is the FOV value you want to change to). For example add fdefaultfov=90
4- Open Skyrim.ini, and search for [Display] section
5- Add fDefaultWorldFOV=XX (where XX is the FOV value you put in fdefaultfov)
6- Add fDefault1stPersonFOV=xx.0000 (where XX is the FOV value you put in fdefaultfov)
[/quote]

Thanks that seems to have worked!

Guys I have a slight problem, when I set the convergence higher, I can see the the game being "created" on the right side of the screen. I don't know how to better explain it, but I can see the game being drawn. I will take a screenshot later and post it, but it is quite annoying and breaks immersion, and I'm wondering if anybody else is experiencing it.

When you see this problem in a game (happens in Warcaft on the ocean, other Bethesda games, etc), turning on the NVIDIA crosshair fixes it. If you don't actually want to use the crosshair, make it 100% transparent. It also often gives a noticeable speed boost in game. It's very odd, but I make sure to toggle the crosshair on and off in any 3D game now to see if it changes performance.

Yes, I also get this, and I had it on Fallout too... Anyone else? It's quite distracting when its bad.

Edit: Oh? enabling 3D cross hair fixes it? AND gives a performance boost?

I also see the weird blue colors, it's a side effect of the 3D Frustum being slightly wider than the none 3D version, the game is culling to the Frustum it thinks it has and as a result is sometimes not drawing things that are actually on screen.
This is what the Ctrl-F11 adjustment is supposed to be for, though IME it usually ends up moving the UI partially off screen.

I eliminated the problem by using the Nvidia crosshair trick. I also made my crosshair a small "+" so that it isn't intrusive.

The sky doesn't really bother me that much - games like Gothic 3 had worse skies to look at in 3D. I am sure as soon as the mod tools are available, someone will make a fix for them.

How do you guys adjust the crosshair? Mine is a red circle in the middle of the screen and the depth isn't correct when you view transparent surfaces..

To answer various questions: You can set the crosshair to be 100% transparent if you only want to use it to fix rendering issues.

You can configure it from the same screen you turn 3D Vision on from in the nvidia control pannel.

On my 580GTX SLI system turning it on gets rid of a stuttering like performance issue. Can't say if it's getting rid of the slight stutter so much as speeding up performance, but whatever.. the games feel like it's rendering noticeably "smoother".

And yes, the not rendering stuff on the right is the main thing it seems to fix. And I think I remember one game were turning it OFF boosted performance, but for the majority it's turning it on that helps.

And just to be clear, every Bethesda game from Oblivion on works better with crosshair ON on my system. That includes the Fallout games which is where I first noticed in. Dungeons would have part of the wall missing on the right till I turned on the crosshair.

Anyone also getting a lot of ghosting in cities. Everything is fine up until I enter a city and then all the buildings have extremely noticeable ghosting.

I've modified my game to have almost triple the outside draw distance of the "ultra" setting with no frame hit, but some of the indoor environments and cities make my system crawl. I think different lighting rendering is used, and you're just noticing the reduced performance.

@supcaj: I am very curious how you accomplished that. It would be super cool if you could share your respective settings for the trippled outside draw distance with us. Many thanks in advance!

Sure! First, BACK UP YOUR SAVED GAMES. Some of these alterations can cause your game to crash and corrupt the saved games you made before making these changes. So seriously, BACK THEM UP.

Secondly, follow the link below for instructions on allowing Skyrim to use more than 2GB of RAM. Note that normally Skyrim barely uses 1GB, so unless you are tweaking something else, there's no point in doing this:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=202

Then, edit your Documents/My Games/Skyrim/Skyrim.ini and put the following under the [General] settings:

uGridsToLoad=10
uInterior Cell Buffer=36
uExterior Cell Buffer=180

The key setting here is "uGridsToLoad" - this tells the game how much terrain to load at once. The default is 5 - so 10, as shown above, is double the draw distance. I would start with 10, see if it kills your system - if not, up it some more. The other two settings increase the buffer size to reduce the number of crashes.

Here are some (2D) screens of the result from the blog Dead End Thrills, where I first learned how to do this:

Thanks a heap, supcaj, for the fast and indepth reply. Those screenshots look incredibly good (just chose one as my desktop background, hehe). Too tired now, but I will tinker with these settings tomorrrow. Looking forward to it :).
