I recently stumbled across Kenshi after reading the rave review from RockPaperShotgun.

My quick review:
I'm incredibly impressed with it. Yes the graphics are a bit dated and I've run into a few minor bugs, but game play wise, it's unlike anything else I've played before, and to me game play is king. At it's core, it's a huge open world sandbox RPG. It takes place in a post apocalyptic world with ninjas, samurais, robots, cybernetic upgrades, mutants and so much more. The world is incredibly fleshed out. It seamlessly combines RPG, RTS, base building, survival, crafting, etc they're all very deep systems. When combined together in this melting pot of a game they create emergent game play. There is no central story line, but through the emergent game play and the rich world you create your own story. Your starting character is just like every other character in the game, they're not special, and you'll get your ass kicked... a lot. The game is very challenging but also incredibly rewarding. A word of warning though... this game is a huge time sink since there's so much to do and explore, and you'll keep wanting to come back for more.
3D Vision:
The game uses the Ogre 2.0 engine. 3D Vision kicks in and some of the lighting and all the shadows are broken. It doesn't seem like it would be to hard to fix. Unfortunately (at least on my system) there seems to be a bug with the full screen mode that makes the game start off in some really low resolution like 1024x768 or maybe even lower. Running it in borderless mode or hitting alt-enter fixes the resolution but then 3D vision stops working. Either way, 3D Vision or not I'm still loving this game.
Cheers!
