9 series SLI + 3D not working at all (Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q)
5 / 11
Don't know if this scenario was already covered, haven't read the entire thread, but have you tried running at 1920x1080? At this stage the bug could be that SLI stops working in 3D Vision at 2560x1440, since the ROG's are the only monitors that can run that.
EDIT: Actually I believe I've tested DSR AA at higher resolution and 3D Vision still worked (don't like the blur though), so if that is the case then it's an odd bug.
Tweet it to nVidia. It'll get the best response.
Glad we got to the bottom of this (hopefully).
Have you tried overriding the EDID? That should work for the time being.
Hmmm, I don't use Twitter, though.
Overriding EDID sounds rather scary and not something the end-user should have to do. I might break things, because I don't know what I'm doing in that respect.
I'd like to say thanks to you and the other member posting here for being involved and helping out so far. I really appreciate it. It helped getting to the bottom of this quicker.
Now let's hope that this doesn't take 5 months to fix with new drivers.

Hey thanks for your suggestion. Running it at 1080p doesn't fix the issue :(

This monitor is not the first problem I have. Until two or three days ago I could not play 3d bluray iso movies ........ it took a specific correction by the guys from cyberlink. I'm sure someone from nvidia could fix this in a moment.

I do not believe that the Swift is the problem here. It's very unlikely that the monitor has anything special that would induce a bug like this. The correlation with two cases is interesting, but not definitive.
I did not realize you were running on 8.1. 8.1 has many known issues with 3D Vision, and if you look on assorted forums, 8.1 blew up SLI in Surround. A clean install of 8.1 doesn't mean anything because Microsoft changed how DXGI works and introduced a lot of problems for multi-monitor and 3D setups.
I would strongly encourage you to at least test the Win7 case. Doing a clean test install of a known good configuration to gather more data will take about an hour, and you've already wrestled with this for 6 days.
Edit: Right! Sorry, I lost track of the fact that you used Win 7 to start with, and tried 8.1 as a test. Since joserm is also having the problem, and that sort of rules out a hardware problem with your cards, I have to tentatively agree that the monitor is the common thread.

They'll fix it as soon as they've fixed 3D bluray format. Does the 10th of never 2016 sound reasonable?
It should be called Nvidia 4D botched vision, the 4th dimension is time and Nvidia sure know how to take it!
What's the earliest driver you can install on a 9 series nvidia card? Can you get one with working 3D bluray with nvidia 3DTV Play?
If not I'll get an Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U instead of 2x980's. It'll be cheaper and they'll all work! The more I think about it the more it seems like a good idea.
Oh and a bluray player, for less than a 3DTV Play license.
What a con, it would be funny if it wasn't so tragic!
Good luck anyway, I'm mad enough about 3D Bluray, not being able to get SLI working on 3D games would turn into an event from the falling down movie for me! At least we have TXAA and HBAO+ LMAO.
They should take a leaf out of Hondas book. "Isn't great when things just work"
Since when did nvidia become monks and take a vow of silence? I can't wait for oculus rift to come out so we can watch everyone jump ship and watch nvidia get what they deserve! (No customers)
Then we can just ignore them like they've ignored us!

I wish it were different but its doubtful that nVidia even pays any attention to this board any more.
After the huge thread about the decline of 3D, they tried to show that they still visited the boards, and arbitrarily stickied one of the popular posts at the time. That was it... 3 months ago.
We'll have to work out our own workaround, as the community has mostly always done.
Their top brass admitted that 3D vision was legacy. I doubt they are actively working on it any more except for a profile here and there. The 3D vision kits aren't even made any more.
Because of this, and nVidia's historic assholery towards the 3D community, there will likely be a huge migration to Oculus Rift when it is available for mass sale. nVidia have tried to join this bandwagon already.
The sad reality is that I wouldn't expect anything from them anytime soon...

I don't think this is the issue at all, 3D vision at 2560x1440 working 100% fine on my end with 99% load constant on GPU0 and GPU1 in Tomb Raider 2013, meaning, SLI is totally working. System specs in sig.
Yes I also have 100% usage on both gpus, but SLI is definitely not working.
@RAGEdemon:
Man, I'm pissed. Could you perhaps give a pointer to what I could try with EDID overriding, or where to start? I'm completely new to that.

Confirmed 100% is monitor. A friend today received asus pg278q 3DVision kit with 2 and SAME PROBLEM. Have asus motherboard 2011 sli 780Ti with Giga and the same thing happens to me ...... very sad by nvidia ..... an expensive monitor and do not support and do not think they are going to fix. I am very sad and disappointed. The friend will return .. I am no longer in time.

This is a good place for starting. Basically, we try to make the computer think it has another monitor than the one it actually does. In your case, we try to make it think it's a monitor that is not G-Sync enabled.
I do not believe it is possible to cause any hardware or software damage. EDID override capability is a standard windows feature.
Do you have a 3DTV you could test on? If you see SLI scaling on the TV but not the monitor, that would pretty much confirm this for sure.
My friend has tested panasonic zt60 720p. Result with alien isolation:
single gpu: 50% + - usage
sli: 20-25% usage
Sli works perfectly on panasonic......... no in asus pg278q.

I've done that in this thread. Confirms that SLI is working properly + 3D.

OK, as I've expected that made things only worse. I tried an Asus VG278H inf and now the monitor is not responding anymore. How do I uninstall these drivers now?
I had to connect another monitor, because if my PG278Q is (also) connected it crashes the display drivers and the screen remains black.
But of course now I can't find the PG278Q in the Device Manager anymore to uninstall the drivers. System restore does not work. What to do....
