Nvidia knew they were screwing us Acer 27" buyers, but there just is not enough of us for them to care about.

I wonder if someone cannot contact ACER and see if there may be an upgrade kit, or for a small fee, you could send in your monitor and have it upgraded, or maybe a swap to a new one. I have had the monitor for 2 months. I like it, but if I had known that 3D2 was coming, I would have waited. I do not game as much as I want to, and have the shadows do not bother me too much, but I always like to have the most recent and best.
Wonder if anyone knows who to contact at ACER about this.

Good idea.
We all should contact Acer and ask them about this.
The more the better.

Hello Andrew,

thanks for your replies.
So trying to manipulate the inf file of the asus will never lead to success in a mixed monitor environment?
I thought it might be possible to tell the drivers that the asus is just another acer without lightboost etc.
So they all would run in non-lighboost mode.

That would have been a nice compromise.
Better 3d and less ghosting in a one monitor-setup.
And when doing the 3 monitor surround I could live without the enhanced 3d quality for the sake of surround gaming.
I think if you did that it would result if really crappy 3D quality since the monitors and glasses have tuned timings.

Have you sought recourse with Acer? Perhaps a simple firmware update would allow support of LightBoost, I know some panels now allow firmware updates via USB even. I'm not sure how Acer is on customer service, but I remember back when 24" panels just hit the market, there were quite a few issues with various BenQ, Gateway and Dell models with support of features like 1:1 pixel mapping. The U2407 didn't get it right until RevA04 I believe and if you raised enough stink, Dell would replace older revisions for free. BenQ did similar I believe but required you to send them in to their shops. Can maybe try over there, if there's enough people with this problem they'll have to address it.
This cannot be addressed with a Firmware update, is new hw inside the monitor.

And again I apologize for anyone who feels like we were pullung wool over your eyes. Our policy on unannounced HW is clearly stated on the forums so we cannot leak upcoming products.

OK, this information at least saves me from wasting a lot of time fiddling around with this maybe-workaround.

I just bought the Acer HN274Hbmiiid as well and am quite pleased with it (in fact just got it yesterday). My question is, if I get the new 3dv2 glasses, will they allow more light in? That in itself will be a great thing. I know a lot are miffed at just buying this big monitor only to have nvidia come out with the 3dv2 but that's the reality of computers folks. Your equipment will be the best for about half a year at most and something else will best it and be better... I have only played on my monitor for about 3 hours, but I can tell you it's amazing. It totally beats 2d gaming!

No, running 3d Vision II glasses with non-lightboost enabled monitors will not result in enhanced imagery as the next-gen lightboost enabled monitors have different internal hardware.

Asus VG278H 3D Monitor with 3D Vision 2 Ready For Testing...
...if you are currently considering what new 3D monitor to get, then I’d recommend you to wait a bit more...
Down in the comments section, "Bloody" the editor, offers this:
...My first subjective impressions from the Asus monitor: very bright without the glasses (2D mode), brighter image with the glasses (3D mode), slightly reduced crosstalk/ghosting, but far from gone, feels very responsive… the screen is not glossy.

The old and new 3D Vision glasses work with Lightboost and provide the same level of brightness and crosstalk, so there is no much of a difference here. Both the new and old 3D Vision glasses work the same with old 3D monitors as well, but the new glasses still have larger lenses, more comfortable design, so there is some advantage...
Yes if you have a 3D Vision USB emitter.

So October came and went but I still can’t purchase the 3D vision 2 kit. Is there a revised release date yet? I am waiting to purchase it since I play with headphones and I understand that these will be better to use with headphones. Since I just purchased a monitor 32 days ago and was just outside the 14 day return when this LightBoost dropped I am screwed on that but I can at least wait on the glasses.

What he said. I could've picked up some 3D vision glasses last week on a sale but held off because I heard the new model was better with headphones, but they are nowhere to be seen.

Why would Nvidia say anything about the release date, we are only customers interested in their product, no one important. Actually, they wanted you to buy that other pair to reduce their obsolete inventory, that is why they won't say when it will be available. Typical Nvidia, to them customers are nothing more than cattle to be fed on.

How are we a quarter of the way through November without an answer on this. Are you waiting for retailers to clear old stock, is there a manufacturing or distribution problem, does the product need updating? There is nothing more dangerous to a company than the information people will make up without an official response and there are few things more disingenuous to customers than saying nothing at all and letting them state the obvious.
