Resident Evil 5, setting custom resolution? cant do it anymore
Ok i played RE5 back when it first came out in 3D with no problems. I just got it installed again though and now i cant use 3D because my resized desktop resolution isnt listed in the game, and if i set it to 1080p or the resolution below it, i just get a checkerboard pattern all over when i turn on 3D.

I tried editing the .ini file under my documents/capcom/resident evil 5 with my custom resolution and making it read-only and still no go.

So you have the 3D DLP hotfix installed correct? And you have it set to a 16:9 ratio resolution? I notice some games won't find my custom res if it isn't a 4:3, 16:10, or 16:9, for example FEAR 2.

Nah i dont have the hotfix installed. I was going to install it when the newer drivers were displaying messed up images in the 3D setup wizard, but i heard ppl say that the hotfix caused other problems. So i just selected the correct answers from memory in the setup and all the games have been working since, except this one. I'll try the hotfix now and report back...
as for my resolution's aspect ratio... uh its 1804x1014, i'm not sure if thats 16:9 or not, but its the resolution i've been using ever since i got this TV, and I've played RE5 in 3D on this tv before without problems. Well, i should say that, last time i played it there was an issue with the left/right images being reversed and i had to wear my glasses upsidedown. lol 3Dready, my ass.

On a side note, I've been using the Hotfix for over 2 years now and I'm not aware of any issues with it besides fixing a lot of problems.
No that is not a 16:9 resolution. I would encourage you to remove your custom rez and start over. Set your resolution to 1920x1080@60Hz and then create a custom resolution by making sure you enable the LOCK when you resize. YOU'll see a little lock next to the sliders, be sure that is enabled. That ensures proper aspect ratio.

Ok, tried changing my resolution to 1824x1026 (a 16:9 res) and I can now select that in-game. :D theres a little bit of overscan now, but i can live with it, i suppose. thanks man!
this overscan BS is a real pain, i think i'll sell this for one of those 27" Asus LCDs when they come out and get my full 1080p

You aren't limited just to THAT resolution. You could go one step under and give that a go if you still see some clipping of your desktop...

If i lock the resolution at that one that works in RE5, 1824x1026, and back it down one step, its back at the 1804x1014 that i was originally trying to use (the resolution i've used for almost a couple years now w/o problems in other games). According to this page http://pacoup.com/2011/06/12/list-of-true-169-resolutions/ which is where i got the 1824x1026 res that DOES work from, 1808x1017 would be the next 16:9 resolution, not 1804x1014, the problem is that I cant set that with the sliders, the horizontal resolution slider wont stop at 1808, with or without the aspect locked. I tried going even lower with a resolution that was in the 1790-some range, but the game wouldnt detect that resolution either.
So it really seems like, for as long as i want to be able to play RE5 in 3D, i'll have to go with what i have it on now and just deal with a bit of overscan. My scrollbar is mostly off the screen when i have FF fullscreen, and the bottom part of my taskbar icons/start button are cut off a bit as it is.
