Call of Duty - MW3 + driver 295.73 = Unknown profile? I just want the 3D crosshair, tha's all. I
Hi,

I've just installed the new WHQL driver 295.73 and when playing this game with 3D Vision, there's still no profile for 3DV??? I can't believe that??? I was using the latest driver WHQL 285.62 and I didn't install the latest beta drivers, but one of these drivers had a profile for COD MW3 rated as GOOD for MW3, I think it was 290.xxx, but I didn't tested it. Now, I've just installed the newest Nvidia driver 295.73 and I see Unkown 3D Vision profile for MW3, and the 2D crosshair is still there, WTF????
I don't understand this, since drivers 290.xxx listed MW3 rated as good for 3D Vision, so why it's now rated as Unknown for the latest Nvidia driver released.

Is there a game patch that I need to download or something like that to get the 3D Vision profile rated as Good = 3D crosshair for MW3??? I just want to play this game having a 3D crosshair, it's really annoying to play this game having a 2D crosshair when 3D is enabled. Let me know what I can do get the right 3DV profile for this game.

BTW, I have tried TRIDEF DDD for MW3 and it look horrible, much worse than Nvidia 3DV. It's not compatible with SLI and I can only use SBS for my Nvidia card. The image looks strange and the 3D effect is much worse than 3D Vision. There's still a 2D crosshair, it's not a 3D crosshair just like using 3D Vision. I don't undertstand why many folks said that Tridef is much better for MW3 compared to 3D Vision? I totally disagree. Both have the issue with 2D crosshair when 3D is enabled, but Nvidia 3D looks much better and realistic. Tridef seems odd, I mean the 3D quality looks much worse, I think it's because Nvidia frame sequential mode is far superior to Tridef's SBS mode.

Cheers,

Franco

Was it working on a previous version?
Are you using a legit copy?

3D vision works off the .exe name. Go to c:/program data/nvida/resource.dat
open in notepad++ or notepad. find MW3 and make sure the .exe name match.

No, it never worked on the previous versions. I was using drivers 285.62 before and always got a unknown profile. My MW3 version is not Steam.

I don't remenber the exe name of MW3 I have in my computer. When I get home I'll check that for sure. It's true the Nvidia profiles must understand the exe name, maybe it's somehow different, I'll check that for sure.

So, I just look for the name of MW3.exe in the c:/program data/nvida/resource.dat and if it's different from MW3.exe inside programa files(x86)/Call of Duty - MW3, I just rename the exe exaclty like it's in the Nvidia resource.dat???

So, does Call of Duty have a profile rated as Good with drivers WHQL 295.73??? Is there a 3D crosshair with the new profile? I'm sick of playing this game with 3D Vision having a 2D crosshair, very annoying.

How's your COD MW3.exe named as?

Thanks for the tip budy. I'll try that.

Ok, I had MW3.exe and I changed to iw5sp.exe and now I have a profile rated as Good for Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 3.

The deal is, there's no 3D crosshair, I can't understand why this game is rated as Good for 3D Vision, if there's still no 3D crosshair. The 2D crosshair makes the game almost unplayable, it's really annoying and hard to ignore the 2D crosshair when playing this game in 3D.

Can someone please confirm me that the MW3's crosshair is still in 2D using the latest Nvidia WHQL drivers.

There's supposedly a fix for the 2d crosshair problem HERE at Widescreengamingforum.com. You're supposed to download a program called Widescreen Fixer and then get the specific plugin .dll and use it with Widescreen Fixer. I've tried many times to make it work but it doesn't seem to work for me. When I try to use the plugin .dll they link at that page, Widescreen Fixer gives me this error message:

It seems the plugin they give us is a wrong version of some kind. If I use the one that comes with the program itself, I can adjust settings for MW3 in Widescreen Fixer but they don't do anything to the actual 2d crosshairs. I've tried to rename the plugin they suggest we use to the one that comes with the program and I've tried to copy and replace the contents of the linked plugin into the original plugin, but nothing seems to help. So if anyone here knows how to make this thing work or knows some other way to remove the 2d crosshairs, please be kind to assist.

Have you tried using the NVIDIA cursor? Ctrl + F12

I went through all the pixel and vertex shaders and none seemed to remove the 2d crosshair. Not sure if I did it correctly though. I extracted the d3d9.dll from the debug.zip file into the game directory where the game .exe is located. Started the game and got this red line of text at the top with all sorts of info, which some of it I assume was about the different shaders. So I went on pressing numpad 2 and 5 to disable the both of the shaders until both of them (PS and VS counters) started to count up back again from the beginning, so I assume I went through all of them (this took about 10 to 15 minutes I suppose). But none of them ever removed the crosshairs. So did I do this correctly, and if I did does that mean that the 2d crosshairs are not actually shaders but something else? How does the supposed fix at widescreengaming.com remove the 2d crosshairs because it did not work for me and I tried numerous times?

Me too, I'm sick of trying to remove this annoying 2D crosshair. I won't play this game period. I'm having fun with BF3 and unfortunately I can't keep playing MW3 with the 2D crosshair, I can't ignore it and use the Nvidia laser sight all together. Playing MW3 with 3D Vision and having a 2D crosshair totally ruins the gaming experience. I can't understand how Nvidia can rate this game as a "Good" 3D Vision experience. Nvidia you know, a 2D crosshair in a 1st person shooter played in 3D, is not a detail you can just ignore??

I'll try Darkness 2 that has just been released and see how it look in 3D, it looks like cool horror 1st person shooter. I've done everything I could and lot of research trying to remove the 2D crosshair in MW3 without success, so I'm done.
Somethings really don't make sense, Black Ops worked perfeclty with 3D Vision, than a year later instead of improving 3D support, they lack it. Go figure???? To hell with Activision....
