Just Cause 2 is out
  1 / 4
It came out earlier than expected. I've played it for about 45 minutes, and even having played the demo a ridiculous number of times, I'm more impressed than ever. The only 3D wrinkle is getting used to seeing through the parachute cords, it's a bit taxing, but I have gotten used to it. The environments I've been exposed to so far are very different from the demo, much more lush and varied. The cutscenes have had perfect convergence, definitely optimized for 3D vision.

If you play it like basic run and gun you'll probably be underwhelmed, but if you get used to grappling and parachuting around, stunt ride vehicles, and all the things that make this game unique, just do things for the hell of it, like ghost riding cars into fuel pumps and parachuting off at the last second, grapple attaching dudes to the car you're standing on top of, attach cars to helicopters, etc, it's nuts. The ridiculousness is what makes it awesome and there's a decent amount of room for imagination.

How is the performance compared to the demo?

Seems pretty much the same, although the area I'm at right now has so many more trees than the demo area that it is a bit more taxed. Very playable on my GTX 275 in 3D after turning down some of the settings.

This game seems to be using cuda for much of the calculations. I found that a dedicated cuda card made a significant impact on framerate and playability in 3d stereo.

What do you mean by a dedicated CUDA card? I've heard of using a card dedicated for Physx but not one for CUDA. thanks

I believe it means the same in this case, a dedicated card to take care of it but I am willing get a response on this as well on how to set it up. :-)

Same as with Physx I think is what he meant. if there is a card not bing used for Video stuff it would default for the CUDA related stuff, after all that's what makes Physx works. because the interactions are written using CUDA.

If that is really the case why wouldn't they promote that? When you choose a dedicated card from the PhysX area it just says PhysX not CUDA. I can't imagine Nvidia missing the marketing angle on something like that.

In any case, I just upgraded my dedicated PhysX card to a GTS 250 so I hope this is the case. I don't trust my passive cooled 9600GT anymore and I think it is causing blue screens and other assorted issues. I will see if those go away when I try some Metro 2033/Dark Void/Batman.

I was upset that it forced me to play through two missions before the world opened up. I just want to run around doing crazy stuff;)

Ah they're really short and they're pretty good missions. I hope there are more "ride on the top of another vehicle" missions. I had a blast doing the entire mission with just the grappling hook, causing all the enemy vehicles to stick to the ground, wall, light posts, other vehicles, etc.

This is correct, sorry for the confusion. I don't have any super special techniques or anything. /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />

I was surprised, but adding a dedicated card added fifteen frames or so per second. Basically it went from unplayable with highest settings in 3d stereo to nice and smooth with highest settings in 3d stereo.
