I disable flares in game but I guess a lot has changed from the first game to this one. I can't bring myself to play games in 3D without maximum depth so I guess there is some trade off either way.

Holy ****, that ofdr fix really gets rid of the fog volume shadow problem. It helps a ton. Have you had a chance to experiment with other exe profiles or is this the only one that helps?

OK, we know nVidia can fix that problem at least. double imaged lights next?

Can you elaborate on this more?

OFDR = Operation flashpoint dragon rising?

But how does that relate to fixing fogvolumes in Dead space 2?

How do you fool a profile of one game into working for another? :)

The ofdr fix is really good, but I wish I would find a way to get rid of the light flicker problem that occurs when using this profile with Dead Space 2. Anyway, the light flicker bug is easier to stand compared to the doubled images causing tons of ghosting. Whoever is using the ofdr profile fix for Dead Space 2, let me know if you figure out a way to eliminate the light flickering bug. I only have shadows off, all other settings are on and maximized, I've tried turning off each on separately, but none of them got rid of the light flicker bug. Thanks for the ofdr fix, way better to play this game without annoying doubled images.

Edit: Jenson, that's simple, just rename deadspace2.exe as ofdr.exe. Once you start Dead Space 2 by hitting ofdr.exe, the nvidia profile will understand that it's actually Operation Flashpount starting, but instead it's Dead Space 2. Try out and see for yourself..

Wow, the fogvolume problem in mass effect 2 went away, but other problems have now emerged.

This means whatever means NVIDIA uses to profile their games is somewhat accurate, but the guy who does it is probably overworked and only spends 5 minutes doing so.

OR....

When he enables one setting it breaks another setting.......

Hmmm very interesting.......

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs

I don't see ofdr.exe anywhere in my gameconfigs in the registry even though I renamed Masseffect2.exe to ofdr.exe

Would you mind checking your registry for custom OFDR settings? Could you copy & paste the registry keys here?

All I have for ofdr in the registry is:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\ofdr]
"StereoMemoEnabled"=dword:00000000
"StereoConvergence"=dword:3fcde6fd
"Time"=dword:4d43f78c

You probably won't see ofdr in your registry until you adjust your convergence and/or enable the laser site and save the configuration.

I don't know what it is about this game profile that fixes 3D halo problems that others don't but it's one of the first things I try when I find a game that doesn't work well in 3D. I got the Venetica demo to look good by renaming the game's exe and will use it when I get my copy of the full game next week. It also made Two Worlds II look better. I have tried a lot of other game's .exe's but have yet to find one that works as well. Yes, it doesn't fix everything but for the original Dead Space it makes the game more playable in 3D for me than using the default exe. Since Nvidia doesn't give us a good way to modify actual 3D profiles this is the best that I could come up with so far. I also use Nvidia Inspector and was able to force AA into Dead Space using the 0x004030C0 AA compatability bit under ofdr.exe. From what I have read here, it seems Dead Space 2 has added more 3D issues than the original already had.

Oh, I use a similar trick for Oblivion also. The shadows and water reflections in the game don't look that good in 3D. I used to have to turn them all off but I got them to render in 3D better by renaming the game's executable to FalloutNV.exe. (I figured using another gamebryo game was a good way to start)

Here is what the water reflections look like in the game after I went into the .ini file and turned on all the water reflection settings.

Does anyone know where all the settings are embedded for the 3D Vision game profiles? I assume they must be inside the actual driver binaries or someone would have found a way to edit/clone game profiles by now.

Wow.... I hope NVIDIA has a good reason for doing that. Hypothetically, if "fix47" can be applied to multiple games, then you make "fix47" generic and call upon it with values in the registry unique to each game.

For example:

If Mass Effect 2 requires fix47, specify in the registry.

If Dead Space 2 requires fix47, specify in the registry.

If Game X requires fix47, specify in the registry.

No need to hard code anything, but that's my theory. This is assuming that fix47 can be applied to multiple games. But seeing how you guys are successfully forcing one gaming profile to on another with good results, it supports my theory. Kind of depressing now that I think about it, I really want this tech to succeed. I'm confident all this will be fixed, but I don't want to wait years. I want the fix NOW! :P

Hehe i'm so tired, I probably have no idea what i'm talking about.

Like rkuo said, NVIDIA must be hardcoding it into the DLLs. That is why with every new driver update they add more profiles. I'm sure there is a good reason they're doing that, but what has me worried is how you guys can rename an EXE, force one profile on to another game and fix a "common problem". A common fix should be in the registry for each game. That way we can at least modify the registry ourselves to make profiles better.

Hiding potential fixes from the end user isn't very intuitive, especially with such a young technology.

Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can somehow find a way to apply unique fixes from OFDR to Mass Effect 2 or Dead Space 2 (a long shot I know) but to achieve that would be AWESOME!

I mean I just did it myself, I renamed MassEffect2.exe to ofdr.exe and the halo problem went away, but unfortunately it broke something else, but still, the halo problem is gone............................. Hmm now that I look at it more closely. I think it's just broken. It doesn't look right at all. *sigh*

I don´t know why Nvidia do not contract a team like iZ3D or something similar (qualified people and with ILLUSION) to make a decent driver. The price of the graphics card is not cheap and seem that they are not in ruined, precisely. Now we are writting about the compatibility of a particular game, but the driver might do many things that we do not meet implemented. It is possible to make a list of usefull things to implement, would be really long and interesting. It is complicated to wait for good results of a group of monkeys which goal is not another thing that to eat bananas.

Wow can't believe the ofdr fix works for other games. Anyone try renaming the Dead Space 2 exe on steam? I've had mixed results with it -- games like Divinity 2 rename and work, whereas other games when launched display a steam error due to the renaming.

Ok what I did was:

1)copy the DeadSpace2.exe to my desktop
2)rename DeadSpace2.exe (in my steamapps/common folder to ofdr.exe
3)double clicked ofdr.exe... steam gave me an error that the game was unavailable
4)copied the DeadSpace2.exe from my desktop back to the steamapps/common folder
5)double clicked ofdr.exe again and the game started fine

Now I can't see a difference between starting with DeadSpace2.exe and ofdr.exe my 3 reasons are:

1)Not sure what to look for so can't see the difference
2)The scene in the attached two screenshots isn't a good place to show what is fixed
3)Having put the DeadSpace2.exe file back into the steamapps/common folder even though I didn't use that to start the game dosn't work to launch the fix.

Any ideas anyone?

No one has mentioned yet about vsync in this game, maybe it was just a problem I was having but I had vsync enabled in game and after about 30 minutes of playing around with various settings I noticed via msi afterburner I was only getting 30fps. I disabled in game vsync and it shot up to the standard 60fps. I've also settled with having every setting turned on for 3d vision in the game settings including shadows in high with the minimum depth and cranked up convergence a bit so it's comfortable. It's a compromise but the game does look good and there are some scenes that look strange but for the most part it is very playable until we maybe get a fix.

I agree I turned off vsnyc and man everthing looks so much better. I have shadows normal and lights on high now. I also have depth way down and convergence at about half. Looks really good and again even with the minor flaws, playing this game in 3D is very immersive. When I go to 2D it lasts about 10 seconds and I have to turn 3D back on again lol.
