just wanted to know if there were any details avalable regarding 3D Vision Surround.
Specifically, I'd like to know if this will only be doable with the fermi chip, or if my 3 GTX280s can handle it as well. Also I'd quite like to know how it will be implemented. Because if each screen is connected to one DVI outlet, how will SLI/TriSLI/QuadSLI work? Or is Nvidia taking a similar approach as Matrox with their TH2Go (which I still own adn am interested in selling) by means of an external box?

That thread is a very interesting read indeed. So if I understand it correctly, I would be able to use my TriSLI setup to run 6 (!) screens in non-3D mode whist still using all 3 GPUs in TriSLI? That would be incredible...

That thread is a very interesting read indeed. So if I understand it correctly, I would be able to use my TriSLI setup to run 6 (!) screens in non-3D mode whist still using all 3 GPUs in TriSLI? That would be incredible...

No official word yet, but I would assume it will coincide with or follow the Fermi launch as it seems unlikely nvidia is in a rush to unlock new features in "last generation" products in advance of the new generation's release. What I would wonder is … how many games will play at an acceptable framerate with 3D Surround on with just a 200 series card. I know I am running dual 285s and just 3D on one monitor results in a terrible performance hit for me in some games. Hell, TF2, which I can maintain 200+ fps in 2D, has a hard time maintaining 40fps in 3D. I am inclined to think something is wrong in relation to TF2 as other games that are much more graphically advanced, such as RE5, will run a perfect 60fps in 3D and 200+ in 2D.

Good question. I'm sure it would depend largely on the game in question, as you mentioned some games just don't seem to scale performance well in 3d mode. However, I don't think there has been a reliable study yet on SLI scaling in stereo-3d mode, so who knows how much adding a second and third screen might impact performance (or not) in a 2x285 or 3x285 setup.

Well whenever I get the $800.00 I would hope that my 2 x285s can handle it in 3d for the 3 screens. Most games i still get my 60fps (depending on settings) and that has to do due on the limitation (vsync) applied. I can't afford two Fermi's and 2 more Acer monitors anytime soon.

Why would you want to get x 3 120 htz screens when you can get a HD 3D beamer that is 10 times more immersive than x 3 22" monitors ?

You get a much higher resolution, and thus level of detail, from 3 LCDs than from a single projector (i.e. 3x 1680x1050 = 5040x1050 resolution). Also, the screens can be positioned so as to "wrap" around the viewer, filling your peripheral vision for a more immersive viewpoint. And some people just like a more complex "high end" setup -- the more gadgets, the merrier. ;)

first off with 3 120hz wide screen monitors Acer or ALienware i can get 5760X1080 resolution or arround a 48:9 aspect ratio for wide screen gaming.

not to pee on your parade with the whole wrap around but have you tried to turned your screen slightly to the side and viewed s3d? Sucks eh! blurry, hard to look at, distorted slightly, not great s3d at this angle. Imo these panels really only look really nice while viewing straight on. I can only speak for my 2233 sammy-cant speak for the acer or aw, but i would think its the same. I would like 3 projectors myself but i keep thinking that an angle veiw would also suck with this system.

I understand that, but how clear is your peripheral vision anyway. With wrap arround screens you can turn to the left and turn to the right (your head) when needed to view what's going on there. (at that point you will be looking straight at the screen)

I understand that, but how clear is your peripheral vision anyway. With wrap arround screens you can turn to the left and turn to the right (your head) when needed to view what's going on there. (at that point you will be looking straight at the screen)

I am inclined to think something is wrong in relation to TF2 as other games that are much more graphically advanced, such as RE5, will run a perfect 60fps in 3D and 200+ in 2D.
What I would wonder is … how many games will play at an acceptable framerate with 3D Surround on with just a 200 series card. I know I am running dual 285s and just 3D on one monitor results in a terrible performance hit for me in some games. Hell, TF2, which I can maintain 200+ fps in 2D, has a hard time maintaining 40fps in 3D. Good question. I'm sure it would depend largely on the game in question, as you mentioned some games just don't seem to scale performance well in 3d mode. However, I don't think there has been a reliable study yet on SLI scaling in stereo-3d mode, so who knows how much adding a second and third screen might impact performance (or not) in a 2x285 or 3x285 setup.

Three monitors at 1680x1050 in stereo-3d mode is essentially 6 full resolution displays which sounds to me like a little more than even my trusty 285's could handle.

Well whenever I get the $800.00 I would hope that my 2 x285s can handle it in 3d for the 3 screens. Most games i still get my 60fps (depending on settings) and that has to do due on the limitation (vsync) applied. I can't afford two Fermi's and 2 more Acer monitors anytime soon.
And if i could I would need to run them at 1920X1080 each....

Why would you want to get x 3 120 htz screens when you can get a HD 3D beamer that is 10 times more immersive than x 3 22" monitors ?

You get a much higher resolution, and thus level of detail, from 3 LCDs than from a single projector (i.e. 3x 1680x1050 = 5040x1050 resolution). Also, the screens can be positioned so as to "wrap" around the viewer, filling your peripheral vision for a more immersive viewpoint. And some people just like a more complex "high end" setup -- the more gadgets, the merrier. ;)

first off with 3 120hz wide screen monitors Acer or ALienware i can get 5760X1080 resolution or arround a 48:9 aspect ratio for wide screen gaming.
secondly I currently live in an apartment.... I don't have the space or lighting conditions for a beamer. Even when I buy my house (hopefully soon) I don't think I'll have a dedicated room for a beamer.

not to pee on your parade with the whole wrap around but have you tried to turned your screen slightly to the side and viewed s3d? Sucks eh! blurry, hard to look at, distorted slightly, not great s3d at this angle. Imo these panels really only look really nice while viewing straight on. I can only speak for my 2233 sammy-cant speak for the acer or aw, but i would think its the same. I would like 3 projectors myself but i keep thinking that an angle veiw would also suck with this system.

I understand that, but how clear is your peripheral vision anyway. With wrap arround screens you can turn to the left and turn to the right (your head) when needed to view what's going on there. (at that point you will be looking straight at the screen)
