Anyone use those blue/red glasses?
I decided to have a go with 3D vision using the old style red/blue glasses as I don't have a 3D monitor. I just use a 27 inch IPS panel with a refresh rate of 75hz and was impressed with the result. The only negative effect is that the more you increase the depth the more you see double vision so I guess this is just a problem when using these glasses. Having never looked through some Nvidia glasses into a 3D monitor I cannot compare the difference but will do one day.

Nice! Glad you decided to give it a try. Everyone here tends to be a pretty rabid 3D enthusiast. The red/cyan glasses do have fairly high tendency to crosstalk/ghost, where you see a faint shadow of what the other eye is supposed to see. This can be optimized to an extent. You should be sure to have the exact right color match to your glasses. NVidia sells specific glasses that are as good as can be done with the technology. You could also play with the app StereoPhotoMaker, which allows you to see different viewing modes, including 3 different Red/Cyan variants to see which is better for your specific glasses. If you want to see it with no ghosting, you can also try the cross-eyed viewing method, which is pretty good for a few minutes of viewing, but not something you'd use to play a game for an hour. Lastly, the 3D Vision glasses with a matching 3D Vision monitor or projector is going to be very close to the crossed-eye quality, but without the eye strain. It's really, really good.

Oh yeah dude. Back in 2009, after having noticed the red/blue option in the driver panel, I tried it out with a pair of glasses from one of my kids movie's, and was playing Oblivion. Those must have matched nvidia colors real well, because I found the effect astounding, aside from the missing colors. I messed around with the depth settings, convergence, and all that for the next couple of hours. Decided right then that I was gonna buy the 3d vision monitor and kit. Now I have 2 pc's. the older (kids) pc with the 3d vision 1, and my current machine with vision 2. Love it.

I think they used to distribute the 3D Vision Discover (red/cyan) paper glasses with GPUs at one point, I also think they used to sell the better plastic ones in their store ... but now the store has just become a gateway to "buy a shield from us! ... please?" ... still you can get some decent ones off of ebay really cheap.

Yep, I meant the red/cyan type, but it looks like that promo has long since left the building. I can't find them anywhere. Not worth anything too heroic to find those, they only help a little. You might try tuning the colors on your monitor to match your current glasses. Free, and can make a bigger difference. You would want to put up an image that is causing problems, maybe from the image snapshot folder (Alt-F1 in game takes stereo snapshots) Then while that's up, bring up the NVidia control panel to Adjust Desktop Color. Play around with the brightness to start with, then with red and cyan channels to try to minimize the ghosting. You can likely get some settings that are about as good as you can do with red/cyan.

Not sure if you have or not yet but you should enable the convergence settings as well, it makes a huge difference ... and then you should start saving for a 3D DLP projector. :) http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2943/ ... and check http://helixmod.blogspot.com/ for 3D fixes.

The glasses arrived from China, three pairs of the Nvidia Discover glsses. They are better than what I had and only cost me 99p plus £3.00 postage. In time I will get a proper 3D monitor.

I second what Bo3b said about adjusting the colours of your monitor as well - open up a high contrast anaglyph photo and keep it up while you adjust your colour sliders so you can see the effect. Any given pair of glasses can't possibly ever match the actual colours of every possible monitor, so making your own adjustments will improve the effect greatly, and it certainly did for me way back when.
