Here's my beef/problem. I can't run half life 2 in 3d. /angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Whenever I try it gets VERY choppy and the sound skips. If I turn off the 3d emitter it runs fine even with all options turned up to max. I have HDR/Bllom turned off as recommended but to no avail. I set the resolutions to 640x480 and put every setting on low and the same issue. I set the Hz to everything from 60 to 100, 110, 120 and no help. Vsync is off. Chop chop chop! This is strange as Portal (same engine) runs great. Dead Space runs great as well as other titles but I really want HL2 to run in 3D. I have a 3-way SLI setup with 3 GTX470's on an MSI Big Bang motherboard with 6GB Ram so my system is not the issue. I ran Crysis full blown on one card without SLI even being active so I lnow HL2 should run fast as 3D lightning. Any help out there?

Try turning off the in game 3d crosshair. That did it for me. Idk why. It was still fun playing it just lower the difficulty a tad.

Yup, ctrl+F12 got rid of the buggy performance hit.
But, 'crosshair 0' doesn't seem to get rid of the crosshair entirely, just the health indicator around the crosshair. Am I missing another command or something?
I'm getting that itch for my yearly half life 2 playthrough /spaz.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':spaz:' />

yeah hit ctrl-f12. HL2 uses the nvidia crosshair driver to render it's own crosshair 3d. Just turn it off, and it'll be silky smooth. Then hit yer tilde key to open the console. type: crosshair 0 yer done! HL2 in perfect 3d!

I wouldn't call it perfect, water doesn't render properly in 3d
[/quote]
Valve needs to get with the program and use stereo-ready water rendering.
They ruined the stereo experience with L4D2 by using terrible water rendering.
(although you can play water scenes with minimal depth and high convergence)
They must learn that stereo is the future, not only for PC, but for console as well.
Source engine needs to have stereo-compatible water and skybox and it would be perfect.

I have to agree, cinematic mod makes hl2 look better than some recently released games, it's amazing (and huge, about 12gb!). Don't touch it if you don't have a beast of computer and a 64bit os though.
offtopic, any eta on black mesa, it's been around forever

Another fix for this problem (which is severe, BTW) is to use pre-CD1.38 release. With CD1.38 I would get 15 fps (ctrl F12 'on'). I changed to CD1.33 and got 80-100 fps with ctrl F12 on.
