Tomb Rider Survivor in 3D

Spoke with nVidia support chat and got this response. "NVIDIA will release a 3D profile for Tomb Raider game very soon, but we can not comment on the exact release date. Maybe standard response but there is hope.

Its a standard response, I highly doubt they can do anything with a game with its own renderer. They should ask about patching crosshair and giving it 3d vision ready status if so. I really wouldnt have a problem with any of the remaining issues.

Now I'm not new to 3D, just new to 3d vision. I have watched my share of 3D movies and played a couple ps3 3d enabled games on my 73 inch tv. When I heard about this this game, I ordered a gtx 680 card, the asus vg278h monitor, game pad for pc all one day shipping and purchased this game from Steam. All what I can say is WOW! I was not expecting it to look that...well 3D. I was expecting just the window effect we have come to love above 3D but this goes well above and beyond it! I'm actually thinking about ordering a 2nd 680 just to SLI this baby. Anyone using the same monitor and what depth & strength do you play at. This whole screen size/depth correlation is a bit beyond me...

Never seen so much talk about a game concerning its 3D. Going to get it.

Just completed it, hands down best 3d game ever. Def worth a second play through. Also def contender for GOTY, it certainly has my vote.

Tomb Raider has sliders for depth and convergence, but almost every other game doesn't, so to achieve the same effect you will have to tweak both depth and convergence with the shortcuts. depth slider shows on screen, but convergence doesn't, so hold the shortcut until you notice the effect. Next games you should try are both Batman games, Trine 1/2 and skyrim, they are among the best 3d games out there. I don't have that monitor so sorry but I can't help you out, maybe someone else can.

Has anybody tried my laser sight tweak using the Mass Effect or CoD World at War profile with the actual driver? As mentioned above it worked great for me with 306.97 and I don't dare to update the driver before I have played through the game. This glitch with the laser sight at more depth could be at the moment the only way to solve the issues with 2D crosshairs in Dx 11 games as there is no way to change them with Helixmod. I wish Nvidia would care about about our demands concerning the possibility to edit game profiles. Would be great if there is a profile with the laser sight at more depth (and not at screen depth) when the correct detection of the depth of objects is not possible in (Dx 11) games...

Just tried it yesterday only for a few minutes and WOW! Absolutely awesome and definitely a contender for the king of the hill when it comes to the 3D-crown! Since I am about to do my finetuning this evening I would really appreciate if someone could shortly sum up the right graphics settings. There are 100+ postings in this thread by now and you can find setting-recommendations all over this thread. If I remember right everything should be maxed out (given your machine can handle it) with the exception of DOF, Post-Processing and Tesselation which all should be turned off, right? Also, since I like to play with really high convergence should I go for 120% or 150%. I know it differs from person to person but in case 150% is really heavy on the eyes I would go for 120% instead!

DOF off. nope Tesselation must be ON because it's very beautiful and cost no fps lost. Post processing is awesome too but higher fps cost (25%), it depends of your config and a few minor visual bugs in light rays but I let it On because it's some much beautiful with it!

I currently recommend around 50-70% depth for most games. I used to play with 90% or 100% but often it would flatten the image right out, or with high convergence make things look artificially stretched. Also, tweaks for the monitor you may not know: Contrast: 55 is optimum for ghosting Lightboost: 100% Overdrive: 80 As for convergence, this is down to preference. with 3rd person always i always increase it until the i can only just about focus on the closest possible thing in the forground. With 1st person i increase convergence only a little, so that it still seems like im a normally sized person. When you work in 2D (word, ie etc) I highly recommend turning down the brightness to close to 0. There are rumours this monitor has been used in tanning salons :-)

Apparently there's a way to run the game in DX9 mode, so maybe Helix & co can find a way to fix some of the issues with this game (such as crosshairs)? To run the game in DX9: Launch the Registry Editor (open the Start Screen/Start Menu, type regedit, hit Enter). Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Tomb Raider\Graphics Modify RenderAPI value to 9. Note: Revert to 0 for DX11, anything else will result in DX11 renderer with some DX11 features disabled. Obviously in DX9 you won't have tesselation and TressFX but I'd gladly exchange those to a properly working 3D experience.

Thanks chtiblue for your quick answer. Strange, didn't someone (I think it was you eqzitara) state that DOF as well as Post Processing should GENERALLY be turned off in 3d-games!?
Why would you ever use DOF when playing in in 3D? Your eyes creat natural DOF via focusing on a single object (making all other objects at different depths out of focus). DOF can be great for getting that camera focus effect in 2D, and makes it look more like a film, but in 3D just unrealistically restricts what you can focus on, meaning you have to use your mouse to reposition the camera and therefore your field of view. Effects like DOF and motion blur should all be turned off instantly when playing in 3D. Really looking forward to playing this when the cross hair is fixed.
Actually Forever, I prefer to leave DOF on even when in 3D. I just think it's a cool effect. I know a lot of you guys don't like it, but there's some of us who do. Well, okay,.. maybe just one ;-) As for motion blur - BLECH!!! I can't stand motion blur.
LOL I just tried TessFX and this isnt biased because I get 60FPS still with it.... ITS HILARIOUS. Like some kind of wierd Medusa. Like if you just compare it in the wind to the surrounding environments like sailcloth, grass, etc it just makes you laugh. Maybe her hair actually 1:1 behaves like it should but when you compare it to everything else its so out of place. @vesper Laser sight doesnt work. Only option is if you bind right mouse click to to turn on/off 3D. Which doesnt sound worth it.
I can't help but think about Alice: Madness Returns and the fantastic hair modeled on Alice. IIRC that wasn't even PhysX based, but appeared the same even with PhysX off, sorta like Batman's cape in the Arkham series. So I haven't seen this TR game yet, but am wondering why this TRESS FX hair thing is such a big deal? Seems like the same thing has been done before with less.
