Thinking of Purchasing
All, I wanted to ask your opinion on the setup I am planning. I have the 4GB PNY 770 Video Card i7 with SSD with an ASUS 3D Monitor 144Mhz (ASUS VG278HE) Looking to explore in to the 3D Vision territory. My goal is: Play NEWER games in 3D not older, are they still being developed? Hook my tower up to a lower cost 3D projector to play on my 100' Theater Screen Questions: Is the Nvidia Vision 2 the only path to enable 3d on my tower to play through my Projector and/or monitor? Will I still see the benefits of my monitor such as 144Mhz or 120Mhz, if not no worries? Thanks for any guidance from your replies in advance.

Hi Pacmanaz, NVidia 3D Vision is the best way to play games in 3D, AMD don't support 3D, and Tridef (3rd party software to enable 3D) doesn't perform as well in a lot of games. Tridef doesn't support SLI so far as I remember (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and has a much bigger performance hit for true 3D compared to 3D Vision, but it does have the advantage of having fixes and profiles built by the Tridef team; NVidia just generate a 3D profile with a generic quality rating which is usually inaccurate, but will often let you know what options to switch off to make a broken 3D title look better. 3D Vision 2 capable monitors all default to 120hz in 3D, 144hz refresh rate is only used when running in 2D. A lot of newer games have to be fixed by the community, which is not really any different from 3 years ago, except it's a lot harder to fix some of the more recent titles. Look on http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/ for the most recent fixes and a full list of all community fixes. Some other fixes are created with specially coded wrappers like: http://3dmigoto.com/ http://3dsurroundgaming.com/OGL3DVision.html (for 3D surround and openGL title fixes) If you list the main titles you are interested in we should be able to point you in the right direction. If you are looking to play the really new games in 3D you may want to think about more GPU power, titles like GTA 5 can really push a 980 in 3D unless you turn down some of the eye candy, and SLI scaling really shines in 3D the majority of the time.

Thanks for the reply, really do appreciate it. I will check out those links. Also, if I am using my Computer for my home theater on my 100in Projector using the Optoma HD 66 or 67 I would simply need the 3D Vision 2 glasses and be within a few feet from the transmitter, correct?

[/quote] That should work. You don't even need to be that close to the transmitter, I point mine at the screen for an infra-red bounce. For your original question, there is no guarantee that newer games will be doable. We've been pretty lucky/good so far on more modern games, but it's always an adventure. You can expect at least several weeks and closer to a month of lag time before we get stuff running smoothly. And there are only a handful of us, so your favorite game may never get any attention. In general game developers don't put any attention into 3D. GTA5 is a interesting rare case where it runs great in 3D out of the box. Trine3 will be another. We get about one of these a year now. Just as a reference point, projectCars was slated to have DK2 support- and has shipped broken, just like 3D Vision.
