Well, some performance advice. If you're after fps improvement, disable SSAO, because you'll gain almost double fps. Most game options won't make any difference in performance. Playing at ultra without ubersampling, or playing at medium the performance is almost the same. Also SSAO doesn't make much difference visually.
That's normally true for many games, especially in 2D, but with the main performance bug us 3D Vision users are seeing with some indoor areas it doesn't matter what settings we change because it isn't helping frame rates any.

Any news or plans at all what is about to be done about this and when? I dont want to sit and wait for a fix in vain, in that case i would rather play the game in 2d now

Doubt there will be done anything - all the "officials" have been awfully quiet for too long now. Found the mail address from CDPRs CM on the Witcher site @ http://www.en.thewitcher.com/contact/
Gonna write him a few questions - feel free to do the same - but I don't think it will change anything.

I just encountered the same issues when escaping the dungeon, even when I saved, changed to the 'low' settings, and rebooted. The FPS dropped dramatically. Interestingly, once I'd snuffed all the torches, it increased. Could the fault be linked to lighting effects?

Also, in the tavern at that first port you come to, the FPS drops dramatically on the ground floor. Go into the cellar where it is less popualted and the FPS becomes quite smooth. Go into the cellar room where there are people, and it drops like a stone again.

It seems (indoors + lighting + people) = low FPS.

Bah. Witcher 2 is unplayable in 3D at the moment, even in lowest settings. What a disappointment. So much for 3D ready! What a crock.

Back to playing Fable III I think.

Well the thread is only 22+ pages long with over 400 posts so I can see how maybe Nvidia is missing it...

As Nvidia say in their drivers Highlights:

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2995

"NVIDIA is also working with The Witcher 2 game developers to resolve the root issue when using 3D Vision. Please check back for new driver release information."
This is funny.

Nvidia also said they were "working closely with the developer to solve performance and SLI issues with the game" and when I contacted CDPR technical support and basically did a full on report explaining these issues (since I couldn't get an answer from Nvidia) they basically said they weren't even aware of these issues..

I can guess what the problem might be on Nvidia's end:

well...either that or CDPR has underpaid students working their support lines - not that uncommon nowdays; they even out the lack of knowledge with their moderate pay rates. Bad side: As far as advice goes they only know the most simple answers: "Reinstall", "Plug it in" or "Check your drivers".

I came to the same conclusion about lighting, etc in a post a few pages back.

Don't give up on the game though, there are only 4 or 5 places I've come across so far (going into chapter 3) where FPS drops horribly low, you already mentioned 2 of them and there is no combat or anything that would need a higher framerate in any of them. You still get drops in most indoor areas and areas with a lot of lights/fires, but nothing like as bad as say, the tavern in Flotsam.

If you can get 35-40FPS while looking at the door and noticeboard + lit torch outside the tavern, 95% of the game will be perfectly playable :)

I just installed Witcher 2 today to see what all the hype is about.

HOLY CRAP this is a beautiful game in 3D!! It takes the cake for being the best looking game EVER!

Anyway, I can confirm that the FPS drops horribly when you have 3D Vision set to ENABLE in the control panel. Even if you don't go into stereo mode, you will get 35-40fps in the jail - and 8-10fps with stereo (Ultra settings, Uber OFF, 1080p). If I disable 3D Vision on the control panel, I get 88fps in the jail! What a difference!!

Basically we should be getting 40fps indoors WITH 3D (using a GTX 590) on ULTRA settings @ 1080p (Uber sampling OFF).

I'll wait for a patch/driver update. This game is too beautiful not to play it in 3D.

Since GTX590 is a SLI card we should get like 60 fps in 3D indoor. The 50% framerate applies for single GPU cards or non-SLI setups (or if the game is not optimized which seems to be the case)....

No 40fps. Half of 88fps is 44fps. I never said I was getting 120fps with 3d vision set to OFF. The game is taxing even on todays best hardware.

The world and everything should revolve around me, I reckon. That means they have just under seven weeks to fix this game, because then it's the summer holidays, with Witcher 2 as this year's summer holiday game - yay!

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Guys and gals, I see you throwing around names of graphics cards and various processors and stuff, and it leaves me wondering if mine as powerful as I think it. I can find my way around a PC but I'm by no means an expert.

Can I ask you, with the following settings, what kind of frame rate SHOULD I be getting on Witcher 2, with graphics at 'low'?

Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80 Ghz 3.99 Ghz
6GB RAM
64 bit OS
GeForce GTX 480 with latest driver

Any advice much appreciated!

You missed the point....The point is: On dual GPU cards or SLI setups the rule of (FPS in 3D)=(FPS in 2D)/2 does NOT APPLY. This is true when using SINGLE GPU because the GPU has to render double the frames.
On dual GPU cards and SLI setups usually the GPU usage grows!!!! and thus the above rule is NOT AVAILABLE...

You don't belive me? try it yourself on a game that doesn't render fps=monitor refresh rate. For example: Monitor refresh = 120hz. Game in 2D will render 90 fps. Game in 3D will render more than 90/2=45 fps.
