Let's make a giant list of all NVIDIA 3D Vision failures.

@jenson

Not being rude but one minute I read you can fix Nvidia's problems in 5 mins as its "easy" and they are all "Lazy" as you state, then next you say "This is where I'm not experienced" and you google something. Surely you need to be a little more polite and not so aggresive yourself as clearly you do not know everything you state?

Again this is not an insult but you joined very recently and have been quite rude to Nvidia's dev's with name calling. "Anything is possible in code. ANYTHING. To say something is not possible in code is disrespectful." This in itself is wrong and I dont know code but I know ANYTHING is not possible in life or code, everything has limits even you my friend.

I think oracletriplex meant these stereodrivers from nvidia. They supported just anything stereorelated hardware at the time and the gamesupport was probably better (percentage of working games) than 3d-vision is today. The first one is dated dec 2001.
I'm an old-school-stereoscoper myself and was around when nvidia removed support for anything stereo-3d-related with the introduction of the 8000 series. There has been other developers taking by where nvidia left so now i use tridef and iz3d.

The bad thing is the compatibility list in the current 3dvision drivers has everything from the old 3d drivers in it as well, eventhough a lot of those games don't work anymore on 3dvision. Some are even opengl, when it's not supported by 3dvision at all.

I give up with it.

Heres what you do jenson since you are a genius. You make the code for a 2d mouse cursor get it to work with any directx game. Where it moves in retrospect with mouse in game. You do this and then give code to nvidia all they will need to do is add it in with depth tracking like the crosshair. I mean even if nvidia gave you the code you would have to do it anyway so why not do it now and then give it to them.

You do that and you could give it to IZ3D, NVIDIA, Tridef. They all need 3d mouse cursors. Would be great assistance to community.

Likay I know tridef doesnt work on old directX or opengl games. Last I used IZ3D its opengl support was low and I didnt know about old direct x games. If they do I would like to give IZ3D another shot if they increased compatibility. Contact me back please. Nvidia used to support opengl on windows xp but when they upgraded to windows 7 it was dropped.(probably because compatibility with opengl games on windows 7 is low)I been wanting to play a few opengl games forever but aside from dual booting to windows xp and using legacy drivers I didn't think I could.(Then I'd have to figure out how get projector to be compatible with it)

There's no luck with opengl/dx7 and lower with tridef or iz3d either i'm afraid. I keep my old rig containing the 7900 and winxp just for this purpose (even today i think aliens vs predators 2 is awesome in 3d inspite of the bulky textures...). Ironic... If my 8800gtx goes i just get another card. If my 7900 goes i'll cry floods...

Interesting, do you think I can get my projector acer 5360 to work with it or I will need older display. And could you tell me current driver you use 3d vision + nvidia drivers.

Probably a good idea to buy one off ebay before no one has one tbh

I have an AMD Phenom II 555 dual core, asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe, x2 7900 GTX SLI system for this very purpose playing directx 8.0 and back as well as OpenGL. I have about 300 games loaded up on a Windows XP 32 bit system. Gaming on the old skool setup isn't fantasy nor is it's support limited to a few games here and there. It is a reality. Imagine playing Descent 3 and Doom 3 in stereoscopic 3D. There was no reason whatsoever as far as I can tell for Nvidia to truncate what they had already had built up from 2000-2007, save the reason of focus and resource support. Like Likay, I cherish my 7900's SLI, and keep them more oiled and ready then I do my gtx 295's. They are in every sense of the word GEMS until Nvidia bridges the old driver with 3D Vision. Ppl still value older games which is why you have huge emulation communities playing old consoles on modern PC's. It will never die and never go away. Just this past weekend a group of my friends were playing NHL 95 and Pro Wrestling (NES) via emulation.
No. I think it's because NVIDIA is lazy. If I had the code I know I could do it. Reason being is my flawless record in the past nine years. I've been asked to do the possible and I've always come through which is why I can't leave the current company I work for. You know why I come through? Because i'm an ignorant fool. I'm not this know it all who knows how to do everything. I'm succesful because I swallow my pride and have a strong network of friends and developers i consult with amongst a wide variety of programming concepts. I could solve this problem not with my experience, but with my resourcefulness and total selflessness. Anything is possible in code. ANYTHING. I don't think eqzitara is saying its impossible to implement a 3D mouse, I think he's saying its not as simple as you claim it is, especially on Nvidia's end. While they could probably implement a 3D mouse with the help of the developer for a wide variety of games, the reality of it is even a company with as many resources as Nvidia simply doesn't have the resources to dedicate the kind of man hours to these kinds of problems for every single title that lacks flawless 3D Vision support. While its certainly frustrating from the end-user perspective, the real solution isn't to ask Nvidia to perform the very difficult for singular titles and potentially sacrifice future compatibility for a wider variety of games in the process, the best approach is to push developers to natively implement good stereo 3D support in their games during development.

Much of this is just growing pains as developers promote stereo 3D support on their list of supported features and stereo 3D awareness increases overall to the point its a must-have feature. As others stated already, most of the problem with 3D Vision compatibility in problematic games lies in the use of 2D assets and crosshairs/cursors and I'm sure the main problem is there is no Z value which effectively keeps these assets 2D sitting at screen-depth. From what we've seen in past titles, these problems are not easily solved and almost always require a fix/update from the developer (BFBC2 and SC2 are good examples of developers fixing/breaking 3D crosshair/cursor support).

Also, I think its a bit disrespectful that you're oversimplifying the situation and calling Nvidia lazy when you really don't know how difficult it might be to implement a dynamic 3D cursor or whether or not they've already looked into the feasibility of implementing one. You've referenced Nvidia's 3D crosshair numerous times already, but you've neglected to mention how much complaint there is over the performance hit and comparably sluggish performance compared to a natively implemented 3D crosshair. And to think that's just a fixed X,Y coordinate with the Z value being calculated dynamically, what do you think is going to happen when you start moving the X,Y as well then trying to dynamically inject and render a 3D cursor? I'm not even sure you could maintain 60 updates for a 3D mouse this way, and anything less than 60 is going to feel EXTREMELY sluggish. Also, I'm not even sure if Nvidia is calculating the Z value dynamically or if they're able to pull it from the depth buffer for FPS titles, if they have to use some kind of dynamic surface detection like ray-tracing for RTS type games that may not expose Z values for collision/hit detection, you're looking at even more difficulty in implementing any 3D cursor.

In any case, not trying to discourage any effort on your end, the user community here has been great in coming up with some compatibility fixes for a wide variety of games, but from everything I've seen our hands are tied for the most part by what features the developers implement and expose, and to a lesser degree, Nvidia's control over what's rendered in 2D/3D via the driver/3D profile. I think a more constructive approach of identifying specific game issues in 3D with potential solutions would go a lot further than just pointing the finger and claiming laziness.

That was the great thing about the old driver, it worked (or tried to work) with whatever display / glasses combination you had, they didn't force you to buy a kit or use a "certified" display. Your Captain Crunch glasses might not have worked very well but with your projector you could have just bought a $50 pair of DLPlink glasses and saved yourself a lot of money... /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I have dlp link glasses, used them on old display. Could someone tell me the drivers they use on there legacy set-ups? Nvidia video drivers + 3d drivers for there 7900's? Also, is it possible to use 3d vision with this my set up (if I have a 7900 + acer 5360 projector)or do I have to use other means (dlp-link)

Also did any1 ever try kotor(was working at one point I hear),Jade Empire, or chronicles of riddick. Really curious about those ones.

I don't use 3d-vision myself since my path has gone another way. I got a dual projector setup + an iz3d which rules nvidiastereo out. Don't think nvidia ever will implement support for alternative solutions like in the past but 3d-play is a step in the right dir.
My fave old school combos are 91.31 combo (91.31+91.31stereo), 93.81 combo and 169.21forceware+162.50stereo for multicpucoresupport (91.31 needs all but one cpucore disabled but some others seems more lucky than me in this regard).
All drivers need maximum winxp and up to and including 7950 card to work. The 7900gtx will do very well and i've even underclocked mine a tad in hope to extend lifetime... lol
With "newer" versions of the nvidiadriver you need a reghack to enable the classic control panel which contains the stereooptions. Copy this into a textfile, rename it to enableoldpanel.reg, doubleclick it and answer yes.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003
"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000000
I know the 169.21+162.50 needs this regfix while 91.31combo works fine without. Extra note as well: It seems that nvidia experimented on how to lock out certain hardwares via edid already in the 162.50stereo so you may need to do a "pinmod" to get all stereooptions available (otherwise only anaglyph will show). I manage this using vga-to-tv boxes which surprizingly works so i don't have in head directly which pin that should be bent away in the cable... The most hazzlefree setup is starting to use the 91.31combo, disable all but one cpucores and start from there. You can use either one extra bootline or nhancer to run applications using one cpu-core.
To make dual bootoptions you need to modify the boot.ini file in c:\ by adding:
"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Single Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /NUMPROC=1".
Like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Single Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /NUMPROC=1
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Dual Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
If your acer 5360 accepts vga i recommend running it through the vga-port and use ddc-glasses like e-dimensionals or similar. E-dims however are useless outside the oldschool stereodrivers so have this in mind. Getting a pair of working used ones is to prefer.

I never managed getting chronicles of riddick work in 3d while kotor worked fine! I don't know about jade empire.

"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001

"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002

"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003

"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000000

Like this:
[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Single Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /NUMPROC=1

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Dual Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

TO NVIDIA!

Steam games are not recognised in your driver compatibility list when looking from desktop mode settings. Its a really small feature, but still, considering that most pc games are consumed via steam it seems pretty crucial to implement this. I really want to view the installed steam games and view each ones compatibility before running and trying a game.

First off, discussing this with you is actually very helpful. Whatever your agenda is, just know you're helping a lot :)

Also I'm not a genius, I just know what features I want and if I had the power I would begin implementing myself. Some of those features are no brainers, others are challenging. The fact is I wouldn't stop until it's done. I'd reach out to the community, share ideas, ask for lots of help, but I would get it done because I'm thorough.

We're definitely both on the same page. I'm working on a directx overlay right now. I really really want to play dragon age with a functional 3d cursor and that's been my motivation. Creating an overlay over directx is challenging and I'm working with various source codes I found on the net. What sucks is that those guys didn't comment any of their code. I'm close to being able to output a string over a directx app. Then i'll try to move string (text) dynamically around with the mouse using coords from getcursorpos. Like you said there are so many variables they won't end up in the same location and the mouse speeds will be different, etc.

But let me tell you this. If I had nvidia's source code the first thing I would do is:

1. Start moving the laser crosshair around the screen dynamically and observe that behavior.
2. Get it to move with the mouse even if it's not in the right spot using GetCursorPos, you have to start somewhere.
3. Worry about sync'ing them last (The fun part).

I'm not saying I'm this know it all. But I can tell you I know the basics of exploring what's possible. I mean seriously, if the NVIDIA dev just took a few hours to try the above three steps something may click in his head. It's about experimenting.
