Will a Mitsubishi 82838 work with 3dtv play?
It's not on the official supported list, but it was on a supported list posted by a admin/moderator.

Will it work?

Edit: yes, it's hdmi 1.4

if its not you can send the eid to andrew and they will add it to 3dtvplay (using mitsubishi glasses). Do a search for more info. you could always score a used tv on craigslist that has HDMI 1.3 and it will work right away with 3d vision drivers and glasses. ive seen 73" for $800 here in sacramento. no HDTV can beat that in value and 3d performance. or even that of the new DLP's

please post your experiences with the new HDMI 1.4 if you go that way. the mits DLP on 1.3 was a great 3d experience with zero cross talk when i used mine for the computer. Im curious how the new sets work. can i be immortal too?

HDMI 1.4 requires 3dtv play, and any 3d tv should work with the display manufactures glasses. even if its not supported they can add it easily. you might be the first person asking so im sure andrew will chime in. wait for his input to be sure- its possible they have not tested these out yet.

Its so lame that these new Mitsu DLPs can't use 3DVision but have to go with 3D TV Play. They have the Vesa 3D Sync port on the back and run in checkerboard mode. They technically can do 1080p checkerboard and should be able to receive that signal from 3D vision.

How does this frame packing to checkerboard process work actually? Nvidia 3D Tv Play sends a 720p@60 frame packing singal to TV which TV converts to 1080p checkerboard or something similar? Upscalling?

The Mits 738 and 838 series should work just fine with 3D Vision, since they accept checkerboard. Mind you, the newest beta drivers won't work, but when the WHQL version is released, it should work just fine. You'd just select Generic DLP.
