Just Used S3D For 1st Time ... Questions & Help? Color Washed Out, Abnormal Effects, etc.
OK, I just used S3d for the 1st time today after everything came in the mail. By the way ... WOW!!!
New Samsung DLP HL56A650 (120hz - But are games running at 120hz??)
Geforce GTX280 with latest WHQL drivers for XP
Tri-Def Starter Pack (2 glasses, , DLP IR transmitter, software license)
Tri-Def Game Drivers (HL2 and Tomb Raider Anniversary)
Windows XP 32 Bit
OK, I played both HL2 and TRA using the Tri-Def drivers. Both games work, and I must say I was kinda blown away. But, I also noticed some issues and have questions:
1) When 3D is enabled on my TV, it seems the color looks a little washed out and less vibrant and deep. This happens in both games, and maybe the desktop?? I read that the images would appear darker because of the nature of the shudder glasses, and image is a *little* darker, but didn't read the color gets washed out too.
2) In TRA and HL2, sometimes there were kinda wierd effects, but they're hard to describe because of looking at them in 3D as opposed to 2D. Like during some cutscenes in TRA, the focus would slow down or come out of focus sometimes. The blue grapple icon would also show up on the left and right sides instead of centered and in focus. Also in TRA, some levels had a "fog" effect or something similar, and it would overlap textures and come into close focus when looking at things in the distance. This effect isn't done right and looks confusing.
3) If I focus on the character in the center of the screen, I don't notice this as much (or if I just walk in a straight line as opposed to moving the camera all over the place) ... but if I don't move my head but move my eyes to look at objects/walls/items at the sides of the TV screen and image projected, they appear either slightly out of focus, or the edges don't match up 100%, or there are slight rainbow colors diffused (and I don't see "rainbows" that some see on their DLPs ... unless if it comes out in 3D mode?)
4) I played a video clip on the tri-def media player, and it didn't look 3D at all like the games.

I'm using shutter glasses with a old CRT monitor and Nvidia 3D driver but:
@ 1) to compensate for the loss in brightness and red color I use: Stereo gamma setting 1.2, Digital vibrance 1/3 of Low, Brightness 101%, Contrast 97% in Nvidia's control panel and increase the brightness and red color on the monitor.
@ 4) it should. Make sure it's a 3D video (like these: http://www.3d.wep.dk/3dgallery.html) or it can never be in 3D.
There are ppl with a similar system on MTBS3D's forum: http://www.mtbs3d.com so You could try posting there if You haven't already ^_^
