Mitsubishi 60638 compatible with nvidia 3d vision?

I was looking at tigerdirect for a DLP gaming solution with a BCB purchase. However they dont have any C9 models in stock. I was wondering if a moderator can confirm if this WD 60638 model will be compatible with the Nvidia 3d glass solution.

I just got my 60638 today, and I haven't gotten it working yet, though it seems like it should work in principle.
I have the VESA cable plugged into the TV, and the USB cable plugged into the computer. The 3D vision setup wizard detects the display as a "generic DLP", and it seems to be displaying a 3d image during the hardware test, but the glasses won't turn on. I tested the glasses on a 120Hz LCD, and everything is working fine.

Well I have ordered The TV set and glasses last week and im awaiting the tracking for the TV. However I haven't received anything yet. Waiting on the payment to clear. i'll reply once I get the items and setup

Just an update: my problem was with a USB extension cord sitting on the IR emitter. Once I took that out, things look great, no ghosting at all! Some games, like Just Cause 2, were almost unplayable on my 120Hz LCD due to ghosting, but the DLP looks fantastic!

Also, do you guys notice the checkerboarding pattern? I saw someone post a checkerboard image and I very clearly noticed the checkerboard pattern even at a much smaller image size. It looked like aliasing....everywhere. :( I like the idea of a much larger image (without the performance hit of 3D Vision Surround) and no ghosting, but the half-resolution and checkerboarding have me a bit concerned.

Whoever said that is wrong.
Checkerboard is really a great way to do 3D as it mimics how the human brain sees objects.
You won't see any aliasing and half of the resolution is not very noticeable... I like it way better than my viewsonic monitor.

My two cents:
I haven't noticed the checkerboarding at all. The resolution of the games also looks just fine with a little AA applied. Text is a bit hard to read, but that's it. Really the image looks quite fantastic overall; I think it's a big improvement over my LCD so far.
A few minor issues to consider. Firstly, you do not directly see the effects of the checkerboard, but the image does become really fuzzy when you turn depth up significantly. At default depth, or a little above, the image is really sharp and there is zero ghosting. However, if you get the slider up to halfway or so, it starts to become noticeably fuzzy. So the people who really want the depth turned up to max should probably stick to 120Hz technology. Secondly, I have only been able to get the 3d to work at 1080p. Furthermore, using 1920x1080 resolution results in the edges of the screen being cutoff, so I had to use a slightly smaller custom resolution created in the Nvidia settings panel. If there are any games out there that do not get their compatible resolution list from the OS, then you might run into resolution issues, or not be able to use 3d at all. Hasn't been an issue so far, and you can probably modify the ini of games that don't support your resolution, but it could be a nuisance.
Finally the technology is only available on really large screens. My 60" unit is way too big for the room it's in, but it's the smallest DLP Mitsubishi currently makes. But, if you've got space for a huge display, then it's awesome.

thanks for updating on the results token. I must admit I was a bit scared that after putting this much money into this setup that I wouldn't be able to get it working. Im very glad that everything is compatible and im able to finally take the trip in 3D land. I will post back when everything comes in later on this week or next week.

Nah I saw the checkerboard screenshot myself on this forum, the image looked like the entire frame had a zig-zag texture to it. I'm also quite sure my brain does not see objects in a checkerboard pattern but again, I haven't seen the DLP 3D effect first-hand so I can't tell if it meshes the two stereo images or if it tries to trick your eyes using distance and hoping you can't discern the granularity of the checkerboard pattern.

Thanks, that's a very informative reply. I'd be more interested in a DLP because of its size without having the performance issues of 3D Vision Surround, the no ghosting would just be an added benefit as what little light/dark top ghosting there is on my LCD does not really bother me much. I also don't game at too high depth normally, typically ~50% max with higher convergence tweaking.
Question for you with the checkerboard effect, what do you see with each eye closed? Is the checkerboarding visible then? Or is the DLP too far away for you to see each pixel clearly? I'm interested in larger 3D Vision options but I'd prefer something that I could still use on a desktop, ideally something ~40" or so but there's nothing available in that range and as you stated, 60" is the smallest Mitsubish goes with their DLP.

When I close one eye I don't see the checkerboard at all. It just looks like a regular 2D image with pixels that are slightly larger than normal. The screen resolution looks just fine, but small objects are definitely harder to make out with the checkerboarding enabled. It also seems to be displayed at the lower resolution anytime the TV's 3D mode is on, even if 3D vision is off, so even the browser looks a little blocky if I forget to disable the 3D mode through the televisions settings.
I would definitely not say the DLP is a full time monitor replacement. I kept my 20" LCD for browsing the internet and coding and whatnot, but the DLP creates a much better game experience, so I advocate having both if you have the space for it.

If I need to buy the 3d vision kit will the glasses sync with the TV if I wanted to use it to watch a 3d movie off of my playstation 3 (when that finally gets supported)?

My two cents:
I haven't noticed the checkerboarding at all. The resolution of the games also looks just fine with a little AA applied. Text is a bit hard to read, but that's it. Really the image looks quite fantastic overall; I think it's a big improvement over my LCD so far.

Furthermore, using 1920x1080 resolution results in the edges of the screen being cutoff, so I had to use a slightly smaller custom resolution created in the Nvidia settings panel. If there are any games out there that do not get their compatible resolution list from the OS, then you might run into resolution issues, or not be able to use 3d at all. Hasn't been an issue so far, and you can probably modify the ini of games that don't support your resolution, but it could be a nuisance.
Finally the technology is only available on really large screens. My 60" unit is way too big for the room it's in, but it's the smallest DLP Mitsubishi currently makes. But, if you've got space for a huge display, then it's awesome.

Checkerboard is really a great way to do 3D as it mimics how the human brain sees objects.

Nah I saw the checkerboard screenshot myself on this forum, the image looked like the entire frame had a zig-zag texture to it. I'm also quite sure my brain does not see objects in a checkerboard pattern but again, I haven't seen the DLP 3D effect first-hand so I can't tell if it meshes the two stereo images or if it tries to trick your eyes using distance and hoping you can't discern the granularity of the checkerboard pattern.

Thanks, that's a very informative reply. I'd be more interested in a DLP because of its size without having the performance issues of 3D Vision Surround, the no ghosting would just be an added benefit as what little light/dark top ghosting there is on my LCD does not really bother me much. I also don't game at too high depth normally, typically ~50% max with higher convergence tweaking.
Question for you with the checkerboard effect, what do you see with each eye closed? Is the checkerboarding visible then? Or is the DLP too far away for you to see each pixel clearly? I'm interested in larger 3D Vision options but I'd prefer something that I could still use on a desktop, ideally something ~40" or so but there's nothing available in that range and as you stated, 60" is the smallest Mitsubish goes with their DLP.

This is really why checkerboard 3D pattern works so damn well, it mimics the human eye and how it works.
Because of this you are least likely to see the resolution loss with the checkerboard pattern compared to some other 3D formats which also cut the resolution in half.
Line by line interlacing for example is really easy to notice, whereas the checkerboard pattern hides the resolution loss very well.
