In the market for a new nvidia video card with recent 3D Vision announcement
I currently have a GTX 980 Ti 6GB GDDR5 with a 4K ASUS PG278Q 3D display, I also use it with a VIVE & Rift. What video card should I upgrade to to get the most life out of my 3D vision display. What card should I avoid and are likely to become a problem for 3d vision sooner. Suggestions?

the PG278Q is 1440p... not 4k , I have a 1080ti and can run most things at consistent 60fps on my 1440p 3d monitor. Also what recent 3d vision announcement are you talking about?

The second obvious choice, is to keep the 980ti in case a certain game requires a driver rollback. Plus you can always use it as a dedicated PhysX card, whenever Nvidia's PhysX is actually used in a game and works.

All the new Turing GPUs are RTX, with the exception of the new GTX 1660 which has Turing architecture but no Ray Tracing support. It's roughly equal to a GTX 1070 I think.

I have a GTX 1080ti, and initially I was planning to upgrade at least when 3080ti comes out coz there's little incentive in upgrading to justify the cost of 2080ti. However, now seems 2080ti is going to be the last high end GPU to officially support 3D Vision.
I'm planning to wait and see which direction 3D Vision is going to take. Once the next generation GPU is released, I'll upgrade to 2080ti before stocks run out. I'll also keep 1080ti as a backup for redundancy to keep 3D hobby alive :)

VR adds a lot, trust me. Although ironically, I am currently mostly using my Oculus headset to play 2D games with 3D Vision on a virtual screen, thanks to the fine work of Helifax, 3DMigoto, Losti, and others!
Think of the virtual screen on a VR headset as a 100 inch 3D screen you can wrap around your head, because that is kind of what it is like.

SLI is barely worth it at this point anyway, and I have begun to realize if I get any odd problems with 3dvision/ 3dmigoto more often than not it's my SLI configuration that's too blame.
I'm contemplating selling off my two cards and just getting a 2080ti now that it's looking like the last gen of hardware to support the tech.
Although at this point I am loathe to give Nvidia any more of my money.
