Do I need update 1.34 for Mafia II I have WHQL 1.33
1 / 2
I think the title says it all. I just hate updating my video drivers ( I know I have to do it from time to time). It probably has to do with bein a 9800 casualty. Anyone with experience with this? If not, I may be the test subject and will let you all know

You should use 1.34 but I still get "uncomfortable" shadows.[/quote]

You should definitely use either the 1.33 Beta or the 1.34 Beta as they both explicitly added 3D profile fixes for Mafia 2. I believe the 1.34 also included the updated PhysX runtimes but that shouldn't be needed anymore as Steam is also patching it in.
Also, as an FYI, if you're looking for solid 3D Vision support, you may want to overcome that adversity to upgrading drivers as new games are going to be even more dependent on driver updates than without 3D Vision. If anything, kudos should go to Nvidia for much better 3D Vision CD driver support lately as they've actually released more updates for 3D Vision than for standard GeForce drivers in recent weeks.

This game seems to run better (obviously) with the APEX feature set to off in 3D mode. I can get 45 AVG frames in the benchmark. It seems 3D or non 3D with APEX on it runs at around 25-29AVG and the graphical difference isn't really that noticable in 3D. I have 1.34 and did reload the Physx driver to be safe. (Sorry, all video settings set to high minus APEX)
965BE
2 x EVGA GTX 470OC
1 gig (just kiddin) 6 G ram
Veloci whatever drive
SSD for W7 64
1080P on Samsung DLP
Just giving every one an idea on how it is running.
I think the Physx portion needs a lot of work. Running SLI, it still seems to run poorly with Physx. I tried running `1 GTX470 as dedicated and the difference wasn't that great. I did see this game was using 45% of the card for Physx (wow).
I dunno, I think a good patch could fix alot of this. I would love to play on the highest settings.

Wait!!!! So what I am reading is that with two 470's you can't run this thing on max. I have the game and have two 8800Gt's sli and obviously have my limitations with the physics graphics and plain old graphics (I understand that) but not even two 470's sli can handle it. Why make a game when almost nobody can run it the way it's designed to look. I have been researching upgrading, with hesitation, I'm getting tired of upgrading every year or so.

Calm down..it is alright. If you check 2K's forum Physx is kinda bad in this one. I can run almost all my games "full throttle" 2 GTX470's is definitely worth it (in 3D). 2D, not any issues, this is a new game so a patch or two will fix this. Early adoption to 3D has its ups and downs.
Upgrading every year does suck but is also kinda fun (money permitting)

You should use 1.34 but I still get "uncomfortable" shadows. Any ideas?
Also, it apears Physx may be messed up. I have 2 GTX470's and it dips to 23fps (non 3d)
