Now that I have most of the available 3D movies, I wanted to share my findings with other 3d folks so here it goes. I know most people that use shutter glasses on PC are interested only in games but I have always loved 3D movies since I saw Race for Atlantis at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. I purchased my first three 3D movies shortly after I got my first pair of wired ED glasses. At the time I had a P3 Celeron and an ATI 9200. I got reasonable results setting it at interlaced and @ 60 Hz with the ED activator, but soon wanted more 3D.After hearing so much about the NVIDIA stereo driver and no sign of ATI ever supporting 3D I built this, now aging, thing. When I first upgraded to NVIDIA, I was impressed at how much better the games were in page flip 3D @ 1024x768 100HZ, but I had no application that could use the driver for 3D movies. I had to use the ED activator. The 3D movies were not as good as it was with my old Celeron and ATI card. Then came Stereoscopic Player. http://www.3dtv.at/Downloads/StereoscopicPlayer100_en.msi At first it wasn’t real stable but it was free. It was now possible to use the NVIDIA stereo driver to watch 3D movies. Unfortunately it is no longer free, but it is much more stable and the 3D is perfect. To the best of my knowledge there is no better way to watch 3D DVD’s on your PC.
Setting up stereoscopic player can be tricky for some folks so I’ll go over a few important things. Stereoscopic player doesn’t come with its own decoders, so you must choose one. You can download the free GPL mpeg decoder, it is the best for 3D, but the downside is, it doesn’t support certain security encoded files that most 3d movies have which will result in nothing but a garbled screen on many movies. The best decoder I found for the player is cyberlink’s; you will need to purchase Power DVD for this if you don’t have it. To setup decoder, go to “File”, “Settings” “Decoder” tab. If the Audio decoder you choose gives no sound, choose another. Make sure you set the video mode to force weave after you choose your decoders. Load a movie, go to “File”, “Video decoder properties”, make sure force weave is ticked and the “Use hardware accelerator” box is checked. Anything other then force weave will result in no 3D. The first time you run a 3D movie, you will be prompted about the format. If the movie you have is not in their database, choose interlaced, right line first. When the movie is playing, turn your glasses upside down to compare which way is better. If it is better upside down, go to “File”, “video properties”, “Settings” tab; change it to “interlaced left line first.
If you get things set up right your 3D movies will look like this. Download pic to desktop and right click and open with “Stereo test application” or rename to .jps

Thanks Artox, I had to get my movies online because there was no place to get them in my area as well. I'm going to go over the movies, I got about 35 of them but some, I think, should be avoided. I got many movies from Razor 3D before I found better and cheaper places. E-bay and Amazon.com are the best places to find 3D movies. For a complete up to date list of available 3D movies I go here.

About the movies, there are over 10 movies available in HQFS that IMO are the best quality available. I'll start with the first four I got.
1) Haunted Castle: I really like the music in this one great 3D as well
2) Encounters in the third dimension: A documentary about 3D from the past and 3D now.

9) Misadventures in 3D: a sequel of Encounters in the third dimension not too bad.
10) Santa vs. the Snowman: I just got this one great 3D.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply, I just upgraded to broadband and have downloaded the videos from the site. It's not crashing but all play very sluggish. I don't know if is because the files are HD and 3D.

Hi ohgrant.
My pc is lower spec than yours. 3.2Ghz P4, 6800gt, 2gb ram - so in your case it's not lack of GPU or CPU power that's causing the problem....
When I play these videos they all run well except the dual stream 1440 x 1080p clip which runs a little slow (but still at a perfectly watchable frame rate) and the audio goes out of sync. Not surprising though given the amount of data being processed.
All the other clips on that page run at good frame rates with no audio issues.
I tried running the clips off an external USB2 hard drive to eliminate the possibility of drive performance, and everything still works well.
Perhaps the difference is in the amount of ram I have.
The Rhine valley video is excellent when separation/ parallax is adjusted to give a really good 3D effect. Pity its DRM server is down.
Finally, to answer SonicIce's question, all of these clips, not just the dual stream format videos can be configured with the Stereoscopic Player app to run well with shutter glasses. Experiment with the parallax and separation controls to get the best out of each video.
My only comment is that with the 'above below' stereo format (also known as 'over under') , the separation value adjustment works incorrectly.
It actually increases vertical separation, rather than horizontal.
However, parallax values can be adjusted to get a decent 3D effect.
These high quality clips are the closest I've come to having IMAX 3D at home. Pretty exciting stuff!

Thanks for the reply mrbluesguy, I was beginning to think the videos were beyond the capabilities of this old box. I was planning on upgrading the ram to 2 gb anyway. I'm going to try other decoders as well.

Me too. 2070SB.
I didn't even know about stereo gaming when I bought it, so it was a very lucky purchase. Superbright mode is such a bonus for shutterglasses! :)
