Ghosting issues with 3D Vision kit + bundle

Basically, I'm seeing ghosting in bright areas and it's killing the overall experience because my eyes can't focus. Any time there's a bright area in a game the ghosting becomes terrible. Is this just how the hardware is or do I have a defective part?

I received the Samsung monitor + glasses bundle on Wednesday. I've been trying to get this game to work properly with Mirror's edge for a while as well as other games.

The major problem I'm encountering is that there is serious ghosting....or at least, serious to a newbie like me. It's especially pronounced in white areas and makes it really hard to focus on the scene in question.

I'm not entirely sure whether it's the monitor or the glasses that's causing the problem, but I'm starting to suspect the glasses. If the glasses are on, and you hold down the power button, it appears to test one or both of the lenses by activating the lens and holding it. When a lens is on like this, I can look through the lens and see that the image on the screen is still visible. Actually, what's happening is that only the part of the lens which i'm looking straight into is blocking the light ... the rest of the lens is just very, but not perfectly opaque. It's almost as if the curvature of the lens means only the part that's right between my eye and the screen can block light decently. On the other hand, maybe it's the monitor too. Who knows? It's hard to tell, and there's no 3d screenshot function for me to test with either.

Anyway, I'd like to know if anyone else is experiencing ghosting issues with this kit and/or monitor. Are there combinations of hardware that might fix this problem...different glasses, different monitor, or what? I really can't take much more of this ... for 600 + the amt I spent to get a computer ready to play these games, I expect working hardware.

Doc, in Mirror's Edge, I see serious ghosting when just looking at buildings against the backdrop of the sky. It's very obvious. The black on white titling at the end of the Katana demo movie is also very tough to focus on with the ghosting of the text.

Like others in this thread, I cannot adjust the settings of the monitor in 3D mode. I'm guessing it maxes out the brightness and other settings automatically to compensate for the shutter loss in brightness.

I've already learned how to play with the convergence settings and have used that to fix many games (for some reason the default settings of most games puts the scene too close to the eyes and over the 2D hud elements). The ghosting I'm complaining about isn't the same thing.

I don't yet own these glasses to confirm. However, can you see if the left and right lens behave the same way?

I've only played Tomb Raider Anniversary (couldn't get Mirror's Edge to work at all). I do see some double imaging (I think that's what you mean by ghosting). I had to enable "advanced in game settings" in the "set keyboard shortcuts" menu. You have to hold CTRL-F5/F6 and I can see the double images converge into a single image. I find myself changing it frequently (maybe because I'm not using the save in-game changes shortcut) if the camera changes in game. Tomb Raider is kind of a dark game so I really don't notice it.

I have not heard much of iZ3D and the passive polarized implemintation approach as it relates to ghosting, but I am willing to bet it to sufferes from ghosting as well. What you have described happenes exactly to my setup as well, and I am using a high end CRT. Its probably worse for me as CRTs have high contrast ratios (30,000 to 1) and contrast between light and dark areas is what makes it stand out more.

To mininize the ghosts I keep the convergance depth set between 80% and 100%. Ghost seem to appear at screen depth, maxing the depth shifts your focus away from the screen and the ghosts, somewhat. The other way is setting depth to 5% where the two images are almost on top of each other as one, therefore no ghosts but no 3D either, so why bother.

Makes sense. I figured the ghosting was from the remnants of the double images not being fully covered up. It would explain why it only happens(noticeably) with bright areas on dark backgrounds.

I didnt think mirrors edge are supported bye the nvidia drivers at the moment only oldish games are.

I have heard of Ghosting problems with LCD and Plasma HDT'S with the Nvidia kit

I own a Samsung HL61A750 t.v. (3d Ready) and it works GREAT with Nvidia 3d vision

Setting up the picture so it would work was frustrating and time consuming.

I called both Nvidia and Samsung and they couldn't help me. This made it to where I spent hours just to make it work.

I would try messing with your settings, this would probably help

My settings are:

hooking up P.C. to input 3 (only 3d ready input) + I had to rename input "P.C" by using "tools" button
Using 3d sync out to Ir Emitter

picture settings:

Standard picture
Wide P.C mode
LED Conrol Minimum (without this changed it will not work at all!)
Dynamic Contrast Maximum (best bright picture with most colors)
3d mode 1

750i ftw
Q6600 OCD to 3.0 GHZ
4 GB PC6400 Ram (800) mhz
295 gtx (stock speeds for stability)
Windows 64 bit home premium
Western digital raptor hard drive

Same thing happens to me. Samsung monitor. When in bright areas, dark objects are ghosting. When I hold down the power button on the glasses to lock the lenses, I can still see through the 'dark' side pretty clearly. Hopefully they will address this issue. I'm not going to hold my breath, though.

Attaching images of light leaking through the lens while the lens is "active".

And excessive ghosting in mirror's edge. Perceptually, it's worse than what you see in the photos. Especially buildings against the sky and dark lines on the floor against the building rooftops.

I really hope this isn't how the hardware is supposed to work. Folks on mtbs3d.com seem to think this is a defective part. Not sure if you having the problem too is a good or bad thing. Maybe Andrew can comment.

I bought the product based solely on all the glowing reviews, none of which mentioned any ghosting problems. Perhaps it's a bad run of glasses? This can't be the way it's supposed to work..

Hi There,

Ok a few ideas to start with.

1. Have you ensured that the Dynamic Contrast on the monitor's Magic Bright setting is off? We will be adding an FAQ on this soon. Basically Dynamic Contrast adjusts the backlight dynamically depending on the scene which can interfere with the 3D effect. Leave it off when you run 3D Vision.

2. How long are you allowing your monitor to warm up before during your critical viewing? Most LCDs need at least 15-30 mins to properly warm up.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

1. Mine is on "Custom" which is how the monitor came to me.

2. Anywhere from right away to 4 hours. Same result.

It's not a monitor issue, the glasses themselves aren't going completely opaque when they are supposed to.

Have you tried the NVIDIA Test Stereoscopic 3D option from the control panel which shows an NVIDIA logo moving in and out? Does that work for you?
