im a total newb and im sure my question is a dumb one. i was going to buy the 3d vision but wanted to get the monitor first. the guy at the electronic store kept referring me to a acer with a receiver on the side combo but it was way too pricey. i was thinking of getting a sony that is 120hz. i wanted to know if that was all i needed, just a monitor that can run 120 hz. im looked on the website but it only suggested Mitsubishi on the 3d vision website. i just wanted to know what kind of tv/monitor was i able to use and not to use. i was also told it needed to be 1920x1080? i again apologize for the newb question. i just didnt want to experience the mistake first hand and need to return an exspensive item like a tv.

pretty much what is making me sketchy about buying it is that the tv im geting is 120hz but it also says:
PC Input Format Support : 640x480@60Hz; 800x600@60Hz; 1280x768@60Hz-R; 1280x768@60Hz; 1360x768@60Hz; 1024x768@60Hz; 1280x1024@60Hz; 1920x1080@60Hz
i was afraid that it is only 60hz at 1920x1080 not capable of 3d. its also 46 inches(not sure if the size matters)

120Hz TV will not work...You need a HDMI 1.4a compliant Samsung, Panasonic, LG, ect.
There are so many models that will work.
I suggest this model...

Amazon has it for $1,349.99 GREAT DEAL! FREE SHIPPING! No TAX!
would you happen to know if Sony carries any? would it be the ones that alright have 3d build in? i thought i was able to run the the monitor with my computer. i have the videocard that can run it, just thought i was able to just get a certain monitor and nvidia receiver to power it. so the monitor would need to be 3d build in already?

I am not entirely certain what you are asking, but lets separate "computer monitor" from "TV":
- If you want a 3D TV, the recommendations above are good ones. To use these with your computer you will need 3DTVPlay software which comes with either (a) a 3D Vision kit, or (b) separately purchase 3DTVPlay software. You need to use the glasses that come with the TV. Look at this link http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-overview.html for general info, and this link for a list of supported TVs http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-system-requirements.html. Don't buy one that is not on this list.
- If you want a computer monitor, look here for all compatible ones with 3D Vision: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-displays.html. This also includes projectors, DLP TVs and so on. Only devices listed in this link will work, so don' buy one that is not on this list. To use these you must have a 3D Vision Kit (the same one noted above), look here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-glasses.html. The "kit" consists of glasses and a 3D infrared emitter.
Hope that's useful.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get a Panasonic, Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, or LG. These models do not support 1920x1080 under 3D Vision so you would be doomed to 3DTV Play with its ugly scaled low res 1280x720 images. Worse, you will be forced into framepacking mode which is designed to make PC graphics look bad.
The only way to get full quality 1920x1080 /60fps 3D gaming is with certain selected Samsungs, or Mitsubishi DLP. Above all, ignore the 'requirements' page for displays on the nvidia website. It is woefully incomplete and inaccurate which has led many people to buy the wrong TV.

I am so glad i decided to make an account and post a thread. i would of been struggling to return a tv by now XD. thanks for all the information given. I'm starting to understand it a bit more. I was thinking about settling on this: http://www.frys.com/product/6693614
I get a discount from an employee at fry's so i think this should work. I also get a family discount from Sony so i was really looking into sony products. i was told this acer will be able to handle the 3dtv play. i was planing originally planning on getting a large screen. seeing as how it isn't just 120hz screen that i needed and actually a full on 3dtv. i might just settle with something smaller for my monitor instead. i was under the impression that i just needed a 120hz hdtv and a nvidia 3d vision, so i was originally planing on both a tv and monitor. would you guys happen to know any other led 3dtv about the same size or around the same size as this 27". I guess i do want to go one of the cheaper routes but i certainly do not want to half ass this project. I really am looking forward to having a great 3d gaming experience at its greatest in the most inexpensive route. i really do appreciate you guys taking the time out of your hands to help me. It sure did same me a whole lot of time and money. Thank you again!

You will be very happy with the THX calibrated 2D out-of-the-box :)
The 3D on this set has very minimal "ghosting" or image doubling...
Those new 3rd generation glasses are the best in my opinion.
