I recently upgraded from a gtx 260 to a gtx 480. Ive uninstalled all my nvidia drivers in various ways, in and out of safe mode, driver sweeper as last resort. Ive installed the 480 drivers 175.41 for display and 3d vision, but also tried the others that are available. When i start playing a game my framerates are really low. For example 8fps in crysis benchmark, batman aa crashing after showing low fps.
Now if i uninstall all drivers and just install the display drivers, then all my benchmarks are were they should be. As soon as i install the 3d vision drivers, one of two things happens. Either the performance is drastically reduced in all games straightaway, or i can play a game or two without any problem. Then all of a sudden after exiting a game, the next will show the performance decrease again. It then never goes back to normal, even after 24 hrs and multiple restarts.
This is at stock settings. I have monitored temps to see if that was a problem, but it isnt. I do notice that when the performance is decreased, my gpu usage hovers around 20-40 percent during becnhmarking.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Phil.
edit* Also when i restart pc the first time i start a game, a warning appears. It says that i am using unsupported driver and may experience instability.

The first thing i would do is to check the core clock speeds on the GPU make sure its running at 700mhz in games.. I think it could be settings itself to 2d mode.. it will do this if it gets too warm.. is the card in a good ventilated case? :) anyways check see if it isant going into 2d mode (lowering the clock speed) when in games. If not then it has to be a softwear issue.

GTX 480 is giant graphics card , i had the same problem , i changed my motherboard from gigabyte to Intel extreme board , i tried win xp with fat32 file system and with NTFS file system , i tried different driver updates , beta drivers , i got sick of it , and then i installed win vista sp2 and ... mystery solved , crazy fps on extremely high settings , with no issues , it seems the other windows does not detect the graphics card right , that`s all , try it and i would greatly appreciate it if you write back to me by a reply here or on my email ( kiko808kiko808@yahoo.com ).

Dude, you just answered a 1 year old topic, and the OP probably doesn't even follow these forums anymore. And anyway after 1 year either he solved his problem, or he got a new card/pc /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
