I was playing Dear Esther (2012 remake) on steam in Stereo 3D on my Hmz-t1 head mounted display and it is simply amazing , best gaming experience i ever had so far
Unfortunately the water renders at a wrong depth , and there is alot of water in this game. With tridef the water renders better but there are some strange reflections not rendering properly.
I believe this game is using the same engine as Portal 2 , will you guys be able to fix this ?
This game really needs to be 3D ready , this is the type of game that shows why Stereo 3D is awesome.

I just ran the game yesterday before I went to sleep and you are right about the water, but imo there are also other problems like lights. For example the lighthouse beacon seemed at the wrong depth. I will test further, but hopefully helix's tool comes to use in this case and we can enjoy the game in proper s-3d. I will test further on how the game fares with iz3d.

What do you actually do in this game? It looks so weird!!! Shame it doesn't work in S3D, things like that and Amnesia would be fantastic for it with all the atmosphere.

It does work in S3D but it has some small issues , this game is an interactive story , you explore while the story reveals itself , it is extremely well done and gorgeous in all aspects

Just finished the game with iz3d, water is wrong with 3dvision and does ruin the experience, and quite an experience it is. I got an eyegasm in the cave and I literally had tears on my eyes, it was probably the most beautiful thing in 3d I've seen. Skyrim is ugly in comparison to Dear Esther, having said that bare in mind that Esther isn't really a game, but a walkabout.

I had no problems with water with 3D Vision (maybe just really small issues on the edges where water meets land, just like in Skyrim, but not nearly as badly as it is with Skyrim anyway). In fact this game is one of the best 3D Vision games out there just because of the fact that you don't hold a gun or have hands or anything else just in front of you so you can up the convergence a lot. As you said, I also cannot believe that this was made with the Source Engine. Imagine if Skyrim had the same amount of detail as this has (and I know they're so very different games on so many levels so the comparison isn't really that justified) but still the scenery is simply breathtaking at times.

Well, I am playing at 150% separation and the problem seemed very severe to me. I haven't made any shots to highlight it, bu iz3d suffers from no water issues whatsoever and the game is gorgeous. I suppose that a fix is for 3dvision is possible if not imminent, after all prior source-engine games have been rid of shader and shadow problems.

Yes, the game is really breathtaking! Besides from "The Hunter" ( http://www.thehunter.com ,free to play!) one of the best modeled natural landscapes I have ever seen in games. And the stalactite caves...! I've visited a stalactite cave last summer and thought how great it would be to explore such a cave in a game - not walking through the "painted subway tunnels" You usually get offered as "caves" in games. Now my desire is fullfilled.
Using iZ3D driver I had no issues with the water except the reflections in the cave beeing rendered only in the upper half of the screen. But this wasn't too irritating. More annoying was the fact that several objects near the horizon are placed at wrong depth as some mentioned before. Unfortunately Helix's shader tool doesn't seem to work with the game. So for me the only way to get rid of these issues was to remove these objects (islands, fog, distant waves) using TexMod (uMod didn't work, too). The scenery looks less "dramatic" without some of the wasts of mist, etc.. But I even liked it as it looks more realistic and so it fits better to the photo-realistic environment. I also removed the animated layers of clouds as they are much too low but as this changes the scenery very obviously I have made a separate tdf-file for these clouds. The fix works with 3DVision and iZ3D.

My original display name is 3d4dd - for some reason Nvidia changed it..?!
Update: I have discovered that using the lowest settings for shader quality in the advanced graphic options solved the issues with the water reflections.
Here some more impressions from the game (with iZ3D): http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/3d4dd/album/4f3d76b53785015b28000000/
The game could be a showcase for S3D gaming respectively art!

Just played through the game last night with massive amounts of convergence and loved every step. I really felt like I was in each environment and the caves! The caves! Absolutely flipping beautiful. I did have the same issues with water reflections and a few ghosting issues but nothing enough to annoy me out of the experience. This was the best $2 I spent all Christmas season. (steam winter sale)
I played with all in game settings maxed and also with 32xAA forced + all other visual goodies maxed in the NCP. Managed a constant 120hz (60-60) only dipping in one place near the beached ships.
Strongly recommended for those of you with S3D setups. Ryme Approved for sure.

The main problem with water occurs at the edge of the beach, or in the caves. Initially I did not have this problem, then after going in the sea water it "happened" i.e. all the rendering was wrong. I noticed this was the case in the caves too - pools would render fine until I went underwater, then would screw up when I resurfaced, and stay screwed up from that point on.
The solution in both cases is to Alt-Tab out of the game then back in. It's a pain but it fixes the water rendering everytime.
There a few other minor issues - some things 'in the distance' are rendered too closely, and this includes some distant mountains, as well as distant sea water if you are looking out over the sea from the top of a cliff, but I don't anything can be done about that. They are not even that distracting tbh.

Was about to start a new thread about this, but then found this one.
Dear Esther is an absolute delight to play in 3D. 50% Depth and default convergence seemed great to me. The water renders perfectly above water, although if you go under the water it borks up, and unfortunately remains borked even when you go back above water (reflections will now be incorrect)
To fix this, ctrl tab out of the game into windows, and then ctrl tab back into the game, wallah, fixed! Edit (just re-read, mike-ar89 beat me to the punch! ah well will help with google hits if people look for solution) This is the only annoying 3D glitch, as it lowers the immersion tabbing out of the experience.
This game in the caves is quite beautiful, and the game is really a piece of art. I went into it with the wrong head space, and found the first 20 minutes unconvincing but playing in the Dark, chilled and letting it wash over you is quite something.
Anyway, it moved me, a lot more then maybe it should have. It's only a couple of hours long at most, so pick it up when on discount, but made me hug my wife afterwards and tell her things before it's too late.

Thanks !
