DOOM (2016) - 3D Vision Fix
  23 / 40
Hi Helifax, Yeah fucking iD pushing a huge update before holidays.. fucks with us 3D vision gamers - I was right in the most interesting part of Doom and now I can't game in 3D vision :( anyway I can pay you to take a few hours of a holiday day to fix it? :P anyways enjoy your holiday mate.
Sad to hear. I'm on holiday for quite a bit of time. I'll probably update the fix, but it will be sometimes in a not so near future. Can someone please tell ID to stop fucking around with "half-a-game" patches? This show just how broken/incomplete their release was initially... Anywho, what does the new 12 GIGABYTE "PATCH" (if you can call it that based on the size) has added ? Another game? Campaign? or what exactly?:) Curious about it... Oh right..here it is http://steamcommunity.com/games/379720/announcements/detail/868451566759011428 MULTIPLAYER stuff ... (not that I actually care about it)... They should keep the SP and MP separate not forcing a freaking 12GB "update" if I am only interested in SP... Lame design... I am seriously thinking of updating the fix for this game ONLY after they stopped pushing all their DLC and MP updates and the likes. In the meantime if anyone wants to update it, be my guest.
Probably would be a good idea to wait for all the DLC to come out before re-fixing, particularly if it's a significant break. That's probably worth doing with a lot of the trickier releases (Rise of the Tomb Raider comes to mind).
New 12GB update and 3D is broken again. No way to turn off automatic updates via Steam.
About the only thing that you can do, is to change the allowable update time to an hour that you are never logged in. So if you set it to 3am it will just stack the games needing updates into a que. Then once you see it in your cue, you can see what's in the update and if neccessary, take steps to avoid the update or backing up the existing game files etc... I've been doing this since the RE5 incident, where luckily they allowed the original game to co-exist with the updated version.

Too late for now, but one thing I'd recommend everyone to do is to enable System Restore for your game installation drive, and set it for all files and all apps. If you have the space, this is the easiest way to get back to a known good state, where the fix works, and their stupid update is gone. Once you know you've been broken, you can right click the game folder and "Restore previous versions", which will allow you revert their update. You can then go offline in Steam to avoid getting it again. It takes a lot of space, but believe me, it's worth it. Set the space for System Restore to be giant, big enough to handle situations like this, at least 100G. (like 50G game + some real system restores)

I'll update the fix when I get back from my holiday. I can't until then since there is NO way I can download 12GB on the "free WiFi" or on my mobile phone connection :( (I'll pay like 100£ or so and will probably need to wait like 1-2 days anyway). A little patience:) Sorry that it got broken but is not something I can control...sadly:(

I agree and I hate to say it but I think sometimes we are jumping the gun fixing a game day one. Probably better to wait for it to be content complete. So many games are getting broken by significant DLC updates these days. Then we have games like the exclusively online Path of exile which receives constant new updates and graphic assets and has never once been broken in 3d. I just blew away another 3dvision virgin in the weekend. He gasped when he saw Dark souls 3 in 3d and exclaimed. "I don't see graphics getting any better than this..."

Hi Necro, Most players finish a newly released game in the first 2 weeks - the reason I didn't was cause I was busy with another game. I usually start late on newly released titles, but from now on I'll make a backup of games you can't select patch update. I don't know about that - I usually finish new release games 6-12 months post-release - they're patched, DLC is out, and they're cheaper. There are plenty of patient gamers out there - not that it's "wrong" to play them earlier of course, but waiting always gives you a better experience, for a better price, with fewer bugs. It makes sense to do the 3D fixes later too, to avoid updates breaking things. It also takes the pressure off the fixers a bit more, and saves time and re-work in the long run. The only real exception to this would be simple fixes, and fixes we can significantly automate (eg Unity titles, thanks to DarkStarSword's work). But even those require a fair bit of manual fixing, and can still be broken by updates.
