Does GTX 560M work with ex 3D Monitor?
Hello guys, I have seen a couple of similar threads to what I am asking but not clearly answered, So.. I have the ASUS G74SX-DH71 which comes with Nvidia GTX 560M. It's features say it has 3D stereo capability (3DTV play) but I dont see the setup stereoscopic in its panel. I know the laptop monitor doesnt support Stereo, So I was wondering if i buy a external 3D stereo supported monitor will it be able to play 3D stereo games and movies ?. Would appreciate the help a lot because was planning about some purchases. Thanks

Do you happen to already have a 3D TV? If so, that would allow you to try it out for free before committing to a monitor.

That card will not handle 3d gaming. It's not powerful enough. As for 3d movies, you could do it to a 3d tv with 3dtvplay if the laptop has HDMI out. Unless it has DVI out (unlikely), you will not be able to connect a normal 3d monitor. Basically, I wouldn't bother.

http://3dvision-blog.com/5532-nvidia-optimus-technology-and-3d-vision-dont-go-well-together/ Bloody // Jul 6, 2011 at 23:02......."As I’ve mentioned in the article above having Optimus technology and trying to get the laptop to work in stereo 3D mode with external 3D-capable display device can be troublesome. Depending on where your VGA/HDMI ports are attached to – the integrated Intel or the discrete Nvidia GPU you may not or may be able to make the 3D work. This is due to the way the Optimus technology works and there is nothing you can do if the VGA/HDMI output is attached to the integrated Intel GPU and not to the discrete graphics chip from Nvidia… I repeat THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO. So choose carefully if you are going for an Optimus-based laptop that you might need to be connected to a 3D HDTV or a 3D Projector."

I had absolutely 0 problems connecting my display to my Alienware M14X-R1 Laptop...but maybe different manufacturers do the "Optimus" tech differently?!?! - My monitor was connected using an ACTIVE mini-DP to DL-DVI adapter. - External nVidia 3D Vision sensor (pyramid) connected to USB. - Run the wizard. - 10 seconds later everything was working! I haven't tried using HDMI since I dont have a 3D TV so no idea there... I find that article to be "old"... and I am not sure is "new" news anymore...
