How come if I bought a 3D capable GPU (gtx660) I still have to buy separate software (NVidia 3dtv play) to play 3d content on my TV? Shouldn't 3D TV support be covered by the NVidia driver? Or is NVidia so greedy so that it must squeeze every penny from the consumer? Doesn't "the other" GPU firm supply the 3d tv support in the pack for free?

Umm no, you have to buy 3D Blu-ray playback software from Cyberlink, Arcsoft or Corel for AMD just like you have to with Nvidia.
3DTV Play/3D Vision is for gaming and you have to buy TriDef to use with AMD for gaming. Except for the few games that have built in/native stereoscopic support.
Can you use PowerDVD for 3d output without 3dtv play?
Yah, PowerDVD has a HDMI 1.4 display selection. Early versions did not have the option though.
That's why you see users say that they only see a 3D Blu-ray option listed in the Nvidia control panel when trying to play games in 3D and they haven't bought 3DTV Play yet.
