Just bought 3DTV Play - is asking me to setup 3D Vision? (confused)
Hi all.
I've recently bought a 1.4 HDMI enabled active 3D tv (Philips 58" 58PFL9955H/12) and I'm wanting to play my games in 3D on my GTX 680 - but I'm getting very confused as:
1) The 3DTV Play software I've just bought from nVidias website launches 3D Vision setup software when I "Run Setup Wizard" within Nvidia Control Panel. I thought the two were different packages so don't know why / how one affects the other.
2) This causes a problem as the setup wizard seemingly needs the USB IR Emitter connected for it to be setup (which I don't have, hence why I bought 3DTV Play and not 3D Vision) however the official 3DTV Play website states that it uses my tvs own glasses which suggests (along with the feedback I've read all over the net) that 3DTV Play would send out 3D images to my tv in Full (frame packed), SBS, or Top and Bottom form for my tv & glasses to deal with.
Why would I need to connect an IR emitter if I don't need it for 3DTV Play to actually function on a day-to-day basis?
Do I need to buy an IR emitter just so I can go through the setup wizard, or does it actually serve a legitimate purpose?
The only way I can see to buy the IR emitter is if I bought 3D Vision, and from the information nVidia provides 3DTV Play is a product available as an alternative to 3D Vision to those in my circumstance who don't have a 3D Vision certified monitor / display and would simply like to play 3D games on their tv.
Can someone please explain / provide any assistance to what is going on here please? If I can't use 3DTV Play because I don't have a bit of hardware such as the emitter that doesn't actually get used then I'm going to be very annoyed in paying £29 on a useless bit of software.
Thank you in advance.

Its essentially the same thing. You don't need 3DVision glasses. Just use your TV glasses. Should all work fine. I have 3DTV Play and NO 3DVision glasses.

Thanks for your response BazzaLB...but do you have and use the IR emitter?
I go to the NVCP and attempt to enable stereoscopic 3d which just sends me to a 3D vision screen offering to setup either...
1) USB IR Emitter and Glasses
2) Wired Glasses
3) Pro Hub and Glasses
4) Discover Glasses
Now afaik I don't want any of this. I can't complete the setup without the (optional) kit, and can't enable the 3d without finishing the setup so I'm stuck. I can only guess that I need the emitter just so I can setup 3DTV Play, despite potentially not needing the emitter once setup - but 3DTV Play is supposed to be a software solution to those not needing / wanting 3D Vision so why is hardware involved ?!?!?!?!?!
EDIT: Found this video...

...and his setup wizard takes him to the 3DTV Play setup wizard, whereas mine goes to 3D Vision setup wizard.
Also, don't know if this affect anything, but when I run the "NVIDIA_3DTV_Play_Activation_Utility.exe" I get this...

So something isn't correct

I have it working now.
Turns out to be a 3D noobie error - I thought 3DTV Play allowed for 1080p style Side by Side or Top and Botton modes, and I was running my tv through my HDMI 1.3 A/V receiver (worked fine using TriDef) - but I uninstalled all nVidia software / drivers, then installed nVidia driver 301.10 (first one for my GTX 680), then installed the 3DTV Play software which actually installed fine this time. I then ran the GTX 680 directly to my tvs HDMI 1.4 input, ran NVCP and 3DTV Play was showing under the Stereoscopic 3D option. Once I enabled 3DTV Play my tv told me it found a 3D signal and once I selected it everything worked fine.
I've only had my tv (my first 3d display) a few days now, so you'll have to excuse the noobish nature of my errors, but thought I'd post back to help others that are in the mess I was in.
Thanks for your help BazzaLB anyway.
