Duke Nuken 3D isnt really 3D. Those games were written in 2D, not in a 3D API like DirectX or OpenGL. The Duke Nukem team used the word "3D" to market their game, but its not compatible.

the oldest duke games were 2d: side-view platform games. So when Duke became a FPS
they called it 3d even though it wasn't stereo-3d. The exact same thing is true for Prince of

I love the old classics and know that the gameplay makes up for the old graphics. Here's a list of
some old games I've gotten to work in s3d:
Duke Nukem 3d (revamped - eduke32, might have bad on-screen-display depth though)
Prince of Persia 3d (not revamped, original)
Descent 1 & 2 (revamped dxx-rebirth)
Descent 3 (original - This is the game with the best s3d ever for some reason I can't figure out
.....I think it's OpenGl and has some kind of nonlinear distance function that makes it look great.
.....I haven't seen that anywhere else)
Freespace 1 & 2 (revamped (Openspace? - I forget))
Xwing95, Tie95, xwing vs tiefighter, Xwing-Alliance, Starfighter, Battle for Naboo
Sinistar - Great
Jedi knight - Dark Forces 2, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast. (not dark forces 1)
StarWars Shadows of the Empire
StarWars Force Commander (cool)
Tombraider 1 (using Glidos $10)
Tombraider 2 & 3, haven't tried 4 &5 yet (Last-Revelation and Chronicles)
Tombraider Angel of Darkness (you need the right settings for this one)
Tombraider Legend and Anniversary but not Underground
Warcraft 3 but not 1 or 2. Nor starcraft.
J-Doom, J-Heretic, J-Hexen
Hexen (GLHexen)
Hexen-2 plus add-on "Portal of Preatus"
Quake 1 (GL-Quake)
Quake 2
Mechwarrior 3 and 4, plus special version of 2
Rollcage 1 and 2 (awesome)
Heavy Gear 1 & 2
Battlezone 1 & 2 (not the arcade version)
If you have or want to play old games in s3d, you could try it on XP in win95
emulation mode or scavenge an old 1.8GHz computer and a geforce2 or 4 card
and install win98se and nvidia driver version 30.87. So what if they're old.
At least some of them are great. People still play cards. How old are cards?
Basically, the bottom line is if it's DirectX 5 or above, it's worth a shot. You
have to make sure the game is in hardware mode if there's a choice like that
and try 640x480 16-bit resolution first.
I was amazed that I got a version of Doom and Quake 1 and Tombraider 1
and others working in s3d. It's mindblowing how old those things are but
still are s3d-able. Incidentally, some of them did have s3d built-in or from a
patch. Duke had an anaglyph patch and Descent 1 had some options for
various 3d-gear. Terminal Velocity and Hi-Octane had s3d patches too.
Wow old DOS games. This stuff really is old.
I'm also a big fan of Descent 3, New York Race, Crimson Skies. I played these games with stereoscopic LCD glasses with old drivers, first with Windows 98 SE then with Windows XP. Note that New York Race stereo wasn't running for years (I don't remember which driver broke it). NVidia Stereoscopic Driver recognizes the games. They are well quoted. But I found no way to activate stereo with Windows 7, NVidia GTX 260, last 195.62 drivers, Zalman 3D. I'm really frustated. Happily I can play with Vietnam Med Evac (Search And Rescue) and with Yager.

Sorry I was being cryptic. No, 3DVision does not work with XP. Going back to XP for S3D means older driver 91.xx, older cards, older LCD shutterglasses and in some cases even older display ie CRTs. But Descent 3 will work in S3D, I used to play D3 with that config. Now I can only dream about it, and may be some day I'll reinstall XP on my old system ...

Interesting. I have a machine with XP Pro and an older CRT (gets 120hz refresh in 800x600) that I could use for testing. What card and glasses would I need if I wanted to see Descent 3 in full 3d glory? I've been reading up a bit on E-Dimensional 3d glasses for S3d, would those work?
Any info appreciated :)

I used an 7900GS and then 8800GTS 640MB + i-Art glasses but ED should work. (With 8800GTS there must be some registry editing for it to work, I don't recall the details but with some googling you should be able to get the pertinent info). Good luck!

You were able to get it running in 3d? Can you give more information about what you did (and what hardware & OS you have) to get that working?
Thanks
