3D TV Play and Game Maker?
A few months back I bought a big Vizio 3d tv to use as a display for my PC so I could use it as a home theater. I haven't really used the 3d at all (wasn't planning to buy the tv for its 3d capability) and so I have not bought 3d tv play for it yet. Whether or not I can get it to work with Game Maker will determine whether I buy it or keep my computer 2d only. For those who don't know, Game Maker is a program that... well the name kind of spells itself out. Anyway. the games that you make with it are installable exe files. I was wondering if I could use NVidia Inspector or some other setting in order to get it to work with 3DTV play. I recognize that I cannot just tell 3dtv play to magically turn the game into 3d, however, I am pretty sure that I can get my game to display 2 separate images side by side, and I can offset the content of them myself such that it would create the effect if used in conjunction with 3d tv play. So what I am asking is, if I have the game show two side by side images, is there a way for 3d tv play to take those two images and put them on the screen in 3d mode? Please give me instructions on how to do this if possible. I will provide more information if needed.

The fact that whether or not you can get to work with Gamemaker is your criteria for not gaming in 3D at all and just playing in 2D is ""complete fail"". There are a lot of visually stunning games in 3D, your loss. 3D is not simply achieved by seperating two images. Convergenge, Depth, Neutral Parallax, Camera Collision are just a few factors to consider.

Sorry D-Man, but your post lacks a point. All the factors that make the 3d effect happen are something I plan to deal with on my own, but at the end of the day it boils down to this: Whatever 3d system is used, the software generates 2 images and expresses those 2 images through the hardware. I can give the 3d tv program 2 images from the game, and I want to know if there is a way to tell it where those two images are, and how to express them through the hardware.

Nvidia has included stereosupport in their api but i doubt that the "gamemaker" software supports it. How about just trying to make a simple game through gamemaker, compile it and see how it runs with 3d-vision enabled?

I made a simple game "Meep", a while back to test, and it didn't work. however, when I altered the program to allow fullscreen mode, then set my tv to side by side 3d within its own settings it sort of worked, the image was stretched, but the left and right images were displaying in the right mode. I will tweak it and ask for more specific help and info later.

It was clearly evident from your hodge podged OP that all the factors that make the 3D effect happen are something you plan to deal with on your own. I simply overlooked the point where you stated that. My Bad

You should have more success running it in fullscreen mode i think. Don't know if 3d-vision even kicks in properly in windowed mode.

I just want to mention that you can always use 3D Vision discover mode to check if it works or not. You will get anaglyph output but if it works it will work with 3DTV Play.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.
To have a critical piece of code that everyone can enjoy!
What more can you ask for?

Thanks for the advice Flugan, but I have found that will not work, my TV does not support 3d vision, it only works with 3d tv play. I think this thread explains more: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/519680/3d-vision-enable-nothing-happens/ I tried tweaking the settings in Nvidia inspector, but nothing got it working. When I try to run it in fullscreeen, I get the following message in red letters across the display: "Current Mode 1920x1080@60hz is not HDMI 3D compatible, Please try 1280x720@60hz or 1920x1080@24hz" I do not know if this message is from my TV or my graphics card, but either way it means something understands what I am trying to do, it just needs more help. I set the resolution manually to 720, and my tv to autodetect 3d content, then ran the game. No red letters, but the game was not displaying in 3d, just the two images scaled down enough to fit on the screen. I would not mind setting my 3d on the tv manually if it would properly stretch the images to the right scale. Unfortunately what happens is the tv takes the scaled images and stretches them, not the full sized images. If anyone has any ideas on where to go next I would love to hear it, if not, maybe I should look into tridef.

3D Vision discover mode<-----is anaglyph Yes, it will work with your TV, of course you'd need appropriate glasses to view it. The only two Stereoscopic 3D formats that allow greater than 1920x1080@24 via workarounds on 3D HDTVs, are Checkerboard (3D Vision) or Line-Interlaced (Optomized for GeForce)

I will keep that info in mind if I feel like I want to surpass HDMI's limits, however, if I am not mistaken, my TV cannot use 3d vision because it is not one of the preconfigured monitor models compatible with it. I don't need to surpass the 720P limit, I was just pointing it out because the message meant that some aspect of my system saw the game's intended resolution and said "hey, this looks like it is supposed to be 3d content, but something is not right." If some aspect of my hardware/software is capable of this observation, then perhaps there may be some means of tweaking the game's settings that the software will take the next steps to disply it as 3d content recognizable to my tv. also I have been thinking, if one does the basic math, the total number of pixels on a 1920x1080 display are 2.25 times as many pixels on a 1280x720p display. When i hit the 3d output button on my TV, it seems to cut the screen in half, stretch each half across the screen for each eye to see as a whole picture. Could there be some way to stretch 2 720p images to fit on a 1080p screen that when I manually set 3d mode it will stretch them back pixel perfect into the intended images? perhaps that is a better question to ask the game maker community.
