Emitter Extension Vision Emitter Extension
Don't normally post to forums but I have been helped by another topic on this site about getting my HD66 working with 3D vision which was very much appreciated.

So I ran into something that I think alot people have probably run into after buying the Vision Kit and that is Extending the Emitter to an area in the room that makes it easy to watch 3D blue-ray movies from a computer attached to a projector. With the Emitter connecting via USB the length is limited and with the computer needing to be close to the projector this presented a problem sitting to far away from the computer.

I tried a couple of things one of which was using a mirror but positioning it was difficult and things kicked out with movement because of how far away the emitter was. So I looked around to see if could do and extender type deal like what you can do with VGA port and those units are way to expensive to warrant purchase. Was going to buy a longer cable but I had a spare USB cable kicking around along with some network cable (Cat5e). Cut the USB cable in half and wired each end to the network cable about 25 Feet worth. Tested it out and it works like a charm with the Emitter, at least no problems to this point. I know the max length of USB is about 15-16 but I figured I would give it a try and I am very happy with it.

One other quick thing I noticed was that position seemed to mater a great deal with the emitter which surprised me as I though the Emitters would be on all 4 sides which is not that case. There are around 10 LED emitters on the front with the button and 1 on the lower left side and 1 on the lower right side. Found this out with a neat little trick where if you use a digital camera looking through the display while pointed at the emitter with 3D enabled, you can see the lights on the emitter. That might be common knowledge but I found out a few month ago checking a WII sensor bar.

Anyway wiring is straight forward for the USB to CAT5 to USB again. See Below

USB Connection Network Cable Mini USB Side
Ground (Outer Sheath)>>>> Blue >>>>>>>>>>> Ground (Outer Sheath)
Black >>>>>>>>>>>>> Brown >>>>>>>>>>> Black
Red >>>>>>>>>>>>> Orange >>>>>>>>>>> Red
Green >>>>>>>>>>>>> Green >>>>>>>>>>> Green
White >>>>>>>>>>>>> Blue White >>>>>>> White

Make sure when wiring you have good contact between the connecting wires via twisting or soldier and I would electrical tape every lead together then around the base of both wires so wire movement won't compromise the connections.

I should mention that if you do try this out you are on you own if something breaks as a result. I am just supplying my experience in this regard as it has worked well for me. Special care should be taken when wiring this up to make sure the wiring is correct and you don't have a short. I am sure that if wired incorrectly there is a potential that the Vision emitter or USB port could be fried.
