Quadro Driver for 3D Vision in May? (perhaps in the 185 Release.....?)
What do you mean by OpenGL 190.58 ? Is it a normal nvidia quadro driver or something else. If you have it somewhere, i will be happy to test it.
Thanks.
It's the driver designed specifically for OpenGL apps as opposed to gaming, more info in this page (driver links at the bottom of the page). This driver is stable and rarely updated. I've been using it for several months at least and though I always flirt with newest 3D Vision drivers, I keep coming back to this driver. I don't know if it'll solve your ghosting but it's definitely worth a shot. Since you already have the stereo driver installed, you shouldn't need to do anything but install the 190.58 display driver. You may need to play with the 3D settings for optimal configuration. I'm using the settings described in this post.

:( it's worst, the glasses stop the sync every 3 seconds.
So i reinstall the latest driver (need 2 reboots and back from the beginning)

But the ghost was similar with the OpenGL driver ...

If you have 5 min, maybe you can try my stereo test to tell me if you have the ghost you too :

I'll download those and give it a try. In the meantime, have you tried the 3dtv.at stereoscopic player or stereoscopic viewer from Crema? There are other stereo jpg viewers out there as well but I use this one. You'll have no problem located stereo viewers or jpgs either if you search that those terms (along with stereo jpg extension "jps").

I'm curious if the ghosting is in all applications or just yours. If you're not getting ghosting with the stereo player or viewer, it suggests convergence problems with GoesStereoBin. I did see ghosting (and flashing from the shutter glasses not syncing) in both the 3dtv.at player and Crema viewer with drivers other than 190.58. Returning to 190.58 eliminated both the ghosting and flashing. I did not troubleshoot the other drivers though, but instead took the lazy way out and reinstalled the OpenGL driver.

Hi,

I've been following this and related threads & wanted to try to verify my current understanding of one issue:

If I want to run (on Windows) my OpenGL app in stereo using "3D Vision" and I want my code to render the left & right images, then I _cannot_ use a GeForce card and must use a Quadro card. Is that correct?

With 3D Vision it seems so close to being possible to use a GeForce card for quad-buffer stereo.. and that's the whole reason I bought the system. I read too much into the ads-- even this forum's title is "GeForce 3D Vision" & I equated "3D stereo viewing in general" to GeForce cards.

Anyway-- thanks!
Thanks Verni, that what I was hoping! Two FX 3800s are in route. I've got another question for you (or anyone else running OpenGL apps with 3D Vision) - when closing your 3D app, do you ever experience PC lock-ups? This happens to me about 10% of the time. I close ArcGIS/StereoAnalyst and once OGL/3D is released and the screen blanks momentarily, I will lock up, requiring a hard boot. I'm still using the OpenGL driver (v 190.58) from the OGL Support page. I may update to the Quadro 191.66 driver and see if anything's different.

Xabi - any luck getting your apps back in stereo? Did you update to 191.66 or something else?
Long time no see!

I have no problem with OpenGL apps Lars when closing.

I have this flickering (every 3rd second) in XP using the latest Driver without the 3-pin cable and Quadro FX4800. The interesting thing: when I use the 3-pin cable and the same option checked in the Nvidia setting I get a NEW FAULT EXPERIENCE... its like looking through a color wheel something.... stereo works OK but there is a slow change in the glassess(?) and we experience a change in color or light(???!!!!) almost not able to notice but when you get aware of it its impossable to use it...

Hard to really put words on this but will do more tests tomorrow... anyone else with the same experience... Will test BigLars original OpenGLdriver tomorrow as well...

Hey xabi,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I had a sick daughter last week (your basic winter cold, nothing serious) and didn't make it into work the latter part of the week. When I did get back, I updated a Wacom tablet driver, rebooted, and discovered that the backlight had failed on my 2233RZ! Very strange and I couldn't find anyone else on the forum that had experienced this. In fact, I didn't know what had happened except that my monitor was on but the display was blank. If I turned the power off and then back on, the screen looked normal for one second, then it blanked out. I used another computer to troubleshoot it on Samsung's web site and through a process of elimination, determined it was a failed backlight. I spoke to Customer Service and eventually they agreed that it was RMA-worthy. I packed it up for replacement and mailed it yesterday. I'm borrowing a co-worker's 2233RZ until she gets back from vacation. We have a few of these and I hope this doesn't become common. My monitor was not quite one year old, still a baby.

Regarding your 3D app, I downloaded it but had second thoughts about installing it on my work computer because IT requires serious justification for loading any non-work related software and this would probably not pass the 'need' test. Sorry about that. I'm one of the few here that have installation privileges and it would be a real pain to lose that.

Anyhow, a number of us have had good luck with the OpenGL driver and it would be great if NVIDIA pushed this more for quad-buffered stereo apps given the other issues folks are having with the 3D Vision drivers. I found it by accident and installed it out of frustration and, so far, keep going back to it (though if that changes, I'll update this thread). Interestingly, I noticed this flicker on another 3D Vision computer at a digital mapping conference I attended recently and they couldn't explain it but assued me they had the most recent 3D driver!

So actually Vista this morning analysed my hardisk during 20 minutes and repaired some files, And now the OpenGL drivers works for me too !
So for the ghost it's quite reasonable now, and maybe my aplication has a problem.

A focalLength of 1 whith a eyesep of 6 cm provide big ghost, but as soon as i change the focalLength for example to 2 or 3, the stereo is OK !

Thanks a lot !

And for the record i manage to make my application work on linux with the Nvision too. Latest Nvidia driver handle the nvision pack with quadro !

hello Biglars

-monitors. we had the same problem with 2 non 2233rz samsung monitors"blank after a few seconds display" .
-drivers
still using 191.00 (switched back to)
i do try ,test every driver when they are released .
opengl driver has lower performance with our software ,roaming less smooth etc.
191+ drivers synchronisation problems with 3dvision 2233rz setups but they work great with our crt setups(191.78).
-ghosting
very little ghosting with 191 driver but if i remember well the first driver (18618 )had almost no ghosting.
-software
no crash or hang up due to 3dvsion works equally "well " on our 2233rz setups and on our crt setups .
i use the same software and driver settings for both setups ( exept for stereo display mode).

regards
