if anyone interested im putting together my new build tomorrow....
 1 / 5
Im doing 8700k with 4000Mhz skils mem and Gigabyte aorus gaming 7 motherboard to replace my i5-2500k clocked at about 4.5Ghz. If you have any suggestions that i could run ect before and after upgrade please do speak up. im doing first a basic build so i can have my machine up and running and softwares installed. i need to design and print a custom holder for my radiator so im running some basic arctic freezer i11 in the meantime i get my water loop ready again. Im not shure yet do i delid the chip or not, propably depends on the temps but we will see. i chose this motherboard as it has easy clock options ect. im not in anyway experienced overclocker/tweaker. yes i have been in the pc scene from the days of need for speed and about always run an overclocked system but im that guy that wan´t some results and with some mediocre learning curve, so don´t expect anything earth shattering. about the gpu. im currently running stock titan X pascal as i have not yet seen any need to bump it up as the cpu was the one stahling. i think ill start changing my stuff tomorrow in about 15hours and hopefully i have installed all mandatory shit and be cack in 24 hours so i can report back some of my feelings. oh almoust forgot im doing similar setup than now, win7 /win 10 dualboot so there is shit to be installed. im gonna run some bench marks today and compare them after.

Good plan. Two things come to mind. 1) If your old machine will be disconnected, decide on and run benchmarks before you decommission it. Take notes. :-> If it's only video card that will swap, that will be easy enough if you forget one. 2) Do only clean builds on new machine. It's tempting to make an image and go from there, but Windows is not very happy when you do that. Best/simplest/fastest is to do clean installs. By default Win7 does not support USB 3.0. If you want to install from USB media, you'll want to use a USB 2.0 port. Or you can add the USB 3.0 drivers. There was some shenanigans, that I cannot recall at the moment. I don't think I needed to slipstream a different installer, but maybe. Just occurred to me, probably using a USB 2.0 hub would work. Best bet is to install Win7 first, then Win10 if you are going to use same bootloader. You can always switch drives in Bios, but Win10 bootloader (os choose screen) is quite a lot better than Win7.

Don't worry about the OC mate. I'll match my frequency to whatever you can get, so we get a proper apples-to-apples comparison! 1. The main thing would be to ensure that it is OC'd on all cores, whatever that OC might be. 2. Disable MCE! :) If both these are not done, then our results won't yield much insight because it would be impossible to know and then compare what clock the cores are actually working at :)

So MCE (MultiCore Enhancement / All Core Turbo) forces all cores to have max turbo (or more importantly, the OC set in the BIOS). We ought to do 2 runs: 1. With MCE on, i.e. ensuring that the set OC is on all cores. I don't know what Gigabyte calls it, but ASUS call it MultiCore Enhancement. This feature overrides any base or turbo frequencies to the set turbo frequency so that all cores work at i.e. set 4.7 GHz. This will represent people who OC their systems. 2. MCE Off, everything CPU related at stock which automatically turbos only a single core. Here only 1 core will work at 4.7GHz (stock), the rest will be below this to varying degrees, with base frequency at 3.7GHz. This will represent people who don't OC their systems. 1. With these 2 scenarios, we ought to be able to conclude which the best chip is for OC and Stock for 3D Vision a this present point in time. 2. With MCE / all core turbo on, and set to say 4.7GHz, we can compare how: all 4 cores @4.7GHz 7700k vs. all 6 cores 4.7GHz 8700k. This will tell us what difference extra cores make to 3D vision, if any. 3. bo3b has also asked that we test if cache makes a difference: if you disable 2 cores on your 8700k, then the 4 remaining cores will have 12MB shared compared to the 8MB shared on the 7700k. ========= Well known games which suffer severely from the CPU bottleneck: GTA5 Witcher 3 central Novigrad. ...

It's easier to get to testing tools, safe mode, restores, repairs. Win7 version is all cryptic F* keys. Win10 bootloader (after self-optimization) should be loading faster than Win7 one, but I have not checked. Won't make a huge difference, go with what you prefer.

I'm interested in seeing your results vs RAGEdemon's. I picked up a 7700K last week during Black Friday sale, and it's still sitting in the box because I'm on the fence about keeping it (got a week left to return if I decide to), so this type of comparison would definitely help in making that decision. Either way, enjoy the new build.

Damn.... it took forever to clean out my water loop. Now im having the usual issue as always installing system, the external Blu-ray drive Disappears in the middle of the installation. I don’t know, Gigabyte bios lookes super stupid and gimped compared to asus. Does anybody know for shure how to put the mems on the board to me its 1/3 and 2/4 for dual channel But my friend said the Opposite. What kind of idiot designed this schematic as there is room for interpetation. Let see do i get anything done today or not. I don’t know whats up with my Buffalo external drives, they have been a pain inthe ass always

I came across this on reddit, and thought it would be appropriate for this thread. Your chance of getting a CPU which hits various clocks, courtesy of silicone lottery: As of 11/11/17, 100% of tested 8700Ks were able to hit 4.9GHz or greater. (1.387V Vcore, -2 AVX Offset) As of 11/11/17, the top 81% of tested 8700Ks were able to hit 5.0GHz or greater. (1.40V Vcore , -2 AVX Offset) As of 11/11/17, the top 58% of tested 8700Ks were able to hit 5.1GHz or greater. (1.412V Vcore , -2 AVX Offset) As of 11/11/17, the top 30% of tested 8700Ks were able to hit 5.2GHz or greater. (1.425V Vcore , -2 AVX Offset) As of 11/11/17, the top 6% of tested 8700Ks were able to hit 5.3GHz or greater. (1.437V Vcore , -2 AVX Offset) Basically, you have a 81% chance of hitting 5GHz if you buy a random unopened 8700K chip. =========== I ought to note here that games such as Deus Ex and the Witcher 3 use AVX instructions but not to a great degree - we ought to have an AVX offset of 0 for our testing. If we don't, then the core will be working at the AVX offset which will skew results, when in fact the downclock isn't needed.

I should be running mem in dual how do we test the performance on witcher 3 ? for gtaV we just run the benchmark ? Rage are we doing this on win10 or 7 ? i did not get gta to work with 3d vision on win10. it boots up and the green text comes, but then it disapperars and is repalced with the red "out of memory" on the screen. and how do we record results as the gta benchmark does not actually present any data but current framerate only

turned MCE on and xmp. to me it lookes like it drives the mem in 4000Mhz, atleast that´s what the bios said. should the cpuz look like this if mem is 4000 ? i have a shitty 20€ cooler for the cpu temps, are not that bad so there is propably room for some OC. i ran prime and the cores stayed all in 4.7Ghz according to cpuz and gigabyte monitoring app shows temps under 60
