I've been using my Asus vg278h since Saturday, and I have to say I couldn't be happier. I have checked every night looking for the oval shape using dead pixel buddy black image. While there is light bleeding (similar to what I had previously on my Acer hn274). But gaming has been a nice improvement. I saw a noticeable difference and less crosstalk (ghosting) then I saw on my previous Acer monitor, and a huge difference than my Panasonic P42GT25 2010 plasma tv.

I was really expecting the worst with this model. Spent the first view days examining this monitor instead of enjoying it waiting for something to go horribly wrong. But, after playing Skyrim, Orc must die, Crysis 2, Witcher, NBA 2k12, Arkham City, and watching Tron 3D. I'm really impressed. I think that this monitor with light boost is about a 25-30% improvement over my previous Acer monitor. And about 40% better than playing with 3D play on my Plasma tv. Although that's not a fair comparison since 3D play only allows me to play in 720p 60hz or 1080p at 24hz.

I'll update if anything goes wrong but so far smooth sailing. Maybe this is a slightly refined model? Not sure but I did get it from newegg if anyone was interested.

Nice to hear they're not all showing this defect.

As for refined model, I'm surprised you guys haven't been keeping track of any markings looking for Rev. #s, build dates, firmware versions etc in the OSD or monitor backplate. Usually that's a pretty good indicator of progress, change or fixes on LCD panels and maybe something you can check for others.

I just got my replacement unit yesterday, so will see how it goes. On first use I can verify no halo exists, now to see if it develops. Still some light bleed on the top, but so it goes with a tn panel.

Monitor is still going strong. If anyone wants any of this stuff "Rev. #s, build dates, firmware versions etc in the OSD or monitor backplate." I can provide it.

It showed up after 2 days of normal use on stock settings, so maybe you got a good one. 2 days is pretty much what everyone who notes this issue is reporting.
What would you say is "normal use" ? Approx. how many hours a day? All day or a few hours in the evening?

Thanks.

@RetroCorn

I see in another thread you ordered it, the VG278H, lemme know please.
djb

EDIT: screw it, I just ordered it from NewEgg. I'll let you know...
Got it, manufactured Nov 2011 on the back. This is incredible. Drop the contrast down to 55 while IN lightboost mode to knock the very little ghosting back close to zip. All working great. Ordered from NewEgg on Monday. Now I need to keep from buying 2 more for surround. Using DVI instead of hdmi of course.

Got mine on friday and I have no problem so far and I just luuve this monitor in everyway!
It just screams quality same as Asus motherboards as of course I use /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Wonderfull colours and as you said just down the contrast and the small crosstalk is all gone.
Had the benq XL2420T but send it back as I dont like it a bit, this monitor is way better in everyway and crosstalk was very bad on the benq and the colours was crap even how I tried to tweak it.

So this is just a fantastic screen and 27 for gaming is so cool and immersive i will never go back to anything smaller!

Mine MFD is October 2011!

I take your monitor does not have the oval backlight issue like a lot of people with new 27" asus monitor are reporting?

Andrew,

Are there any news on when 20-24" lightboost capable monitors will be available?

The new glasses do not give you a brighter picture/display, you have to have a lightboost monitor. Basically, a monitor that just is brighter than current monitors. Just to make sure I just tried it out with the glasses and monitors I have, both types. Here's a good review on the glasses:

http://3dvision-blog.com/nvidia-3d-vision-2-glasses-and-3d-lightboost-technology-qa/

If you want a new pair of glasses for reasons other than a brighter display, fine, if not, don't spend your money until you get a new monitor that probably has the glasses coming with it, like Asus does.

The new glasses do not give you a brighter picture/display, you have to have a lightboost monitor. Basically, a monitor that just is brighter than current monitors. Just to make sure I just tried it out with the glasses and monitors I have, both types. Here's a good review on the glasses:

If you want a new pair of glasses for reasons other than a brighter display, fine, if not, don't spend your money until you get a new monitor that probably has the glasses coming with it, like Asus does.
