Advice on 3D projectors looking for help choosing between a few different 3D projectors
1 / 2
Hi All
I'm looking for a bit of advice on the relative strengths and weaknesses of a few 3D ready projectors. I can get all of the following for around the same price (in Australia)
I can compare them myself in terms of obvious specs (native resolution, lumens etc.), but I'm hoping people might have experience with some of them and can offer advice.
By way of background, I have a 2D projector (Sony VPLHW15) and a 116" 16:9 screen. I plan on buying a 3D capable projector to use for 3D content (ideally mounted on the ceiling around 4.2 metres from the screen). I'll mainly use the 3D projector for PC games and bluray from the PC via a GTX295 (hoping to updgrade this soon as well - probably a couple of GTX480s). I would have liked to be able do PS3 and 360 3D as well, but my understanding is that at this sort of price point the projector will only be able to do bluray and PC games (which is fine).
So any advice regarding good/bad brands and models would be great (or other models that I should be looking at)! thanks all

The ps3 3D gaming is 720px2 @ 60Hz (frame-packed I believe) For example, the acer mentions 120Hz refresh. And also, people describe using it to watch blu-ray movies on Amazon. (Part of the 3D blu-ray standard is 720px2 @ 60Hz). This doesn't imply anything conclusively, though, but definitely aren't negative-points.

Rang, my thinking about these projectors inability to display 3d from the ps3 comes from responses to my post in this link (and the posts earlier in the thread)

either way, my main use will be PC 3D so still hoping people can give me an idea of any strengths and weaknesses of the projectors....

You don't need dual GTX480s for projector gaming in 3D. I could run Metro 2033 maxed out on mine with a single GTX470 well above 30 fps. Keep in mind, its 720p. A GTX295 will be plenty or even a single GTX480...
PS3/360 will be playable in 3D on projectors once Optoma releases this:
http://www.vizworld.com/2010/09/optoma-unv...20p-projectors/
I am not sure why you would want to play either systems in 3D. I guess Killzone 3 may be cool but most games on consoles run at 1280x360 in 3D. You can really see the pixelation...plus so far they don't have an option to adjust depth/convergence.
Otherwise get an Acer H5360. The original affordable 3D projector still works the best.

Dont know if that is the case. Optoma at least needs a converter-box. My Hd67 does not work with PS3 for now.
However, using the Acer edid, it works with 3d vision and is a gem ;)

yeah, dmj, disolitude, lighthouse, I was wrong, looks like those projectors you listed all do frame sequential at 120Hz, but don't accept frame packed signals directly. The ps3 would be sending frame-packed 720px2 @ 60Hz. A converter box like you mention could chop this into 720p F S.

I'm looking for a bit of advice on the relative strengths and weaknesses of a few 3D ready projectors. I can get all of the following for around the same price (in Australia)
