Acer GD235HZ and 3D Vision - Very weird issue
Hi all, just got my kit in today; A brand new Acer GD235HZ and a slightly used 3D vision kit. I've got to say, now that it's all set up properly I'm enjoying the experience. That said when I first got it I was shocked at how horrible an experience I was having using 3D. When I first set it up 2D worked fine and while I agree that everything looks distractingly sharp, I have a dual monitor setup with one 2D only LCD so I use that for most stuff anyway.

The next thing I tried was to use the 3D feature (obviously), this is where things went south fast. In the wizard I got everything set up and as soon as I hit the Pentagon and the triangle test I noticed something was weird. The two shapes began to fade in and out before "bouncing" back to where it started. Not only that but even while it showed only one of the two shapes per eye it was the shape meant for the other side! I ended up saying "Maybe its just an issue here" and just clicking what I knew to be the right answer and continuing; Needless to say, things didn't go so well. The test images that come up right afterwards were all kinds of jumbled and, like with the shapes, were fading in and out between both images. By this point I was very worried that I had a defective screen/kit and moved on to some 3D video tests. I fired up stereoscopic player and gave the Nuremberg video a go only to have nothing change, not only that but I now saw another glaring issue. While in 3D I would get these extremely obvious colour issues similar to some of the ghosting images floating around except very visible. By "very visible" I mean it looked like someone had drawn over it in neon colours.

By this point I was seriously worried and began to wonder how a company could release such a defective product with these many issues in it! With much resignation I felt I may as well poke around and try to do the "reduce ghosting" tweak from here http://3dvision-blog.com/reducing-the-ghos...120hz-monitors/. At this point something very weird happened, I still had the Nuremberg video opened and in 3D (neon colours and all) so I turned the screen off. I followed the instructions and held the left most button while turning the screen on, nothing weird about this. I opened the menu and then glanced at the paused video just to see the current amount of FUBAR filling my screen when it hit me. For some reason the screen was no longer pretending to be in Star Trek and fading between both side; on top of that the colours were all perfect. I found this odd, very relieving but odd none the less.

Long story short, if I turn my screen on normally things go to hell in a hand basket when I use 3D. But it I happen to use the advance configuration boot mode, whatever it's called, a little fairy casts a magic spell and everything just works (but with all the other issues I was expecting like minor ghosting and crappy 2D).

My question is, no one else seems to have this issue, or if they do no one seems to talk about it. If this has come up before and I'm just a lame noob who needs to learn to search/google/etc then fine; but why is this happening. It's not like I'm changing any settings, just booting the screen with a different mode and voila, it works. It is also 100% repeatable as I am still testing it now.

Did you check the batteries of the glasses, they may need recharging?
Also try increasing the brightness/contrast values of the monitor to the max...

I doubt this has to do with the glasses as it works when starting up the screen differently.

I get the same issue as you when playing 3D games with Overdrive off, did you make sure it is turned on?

When I first got the monitor this guide helped me alot:

I have now no problem what so ever to use the monitor in 2D as well.

Thanks for the replys from all of you but, did anyone really read what I wrote? It works perfectly when I turn the screen on while holding the left-most button on the screen and only when I do this. I appreciate you trying to help jclark but I have that exact link in my post so yea...

The only thing I'm curious about is why the screen acts so strangely when I turn it on normally, nothing else. I realise that I wrote a wall of text, but that is what the last bit is for.

Edit: Oh, and yes; OD is on. I haven't even touched that setting yet, but it says "on" when I checked. Also, thanks Mike for being the only one who seems to have read what I wrote.

Sorry about that, didn't look at the link you provided...
It's not that we have not actually read the post, it's simply an issue nobody here has ever encountered i presume...
Anyways, as it seems to be a screen problem rather than the glasses I would directly contact Acer to resolve this issue.
