Where to buy first surface mirror Request for recommendation of purchase
Can anyone recommend a good online place to buy a first surface mirror (for the dual monitor single mirror setup)? It has to be a place within Europe - or one that ships to Europe.
I asked stainedglasswarehouse.com how to order from Europe, but unfortunately, they didn't bother answering.

I've looked around for places that ship in Europe (I live in the US), but I wasn't able to find much, so I understand your plight. If you can't turn up any results, you can also make your own by following these directions:
http://www.make-stuff.com/formulas/mirrors.html
Also, which type of dual monitor + mirror setup are you using? If you're using a mirror for polarized glasses (compositing the two monitor images on top of each other through a mirror, and looking through the mirror through the glasses), you will need this kind of mirror, but if you're doing the setup most others are using on this forum, you only need a normal mirror with no transparency, because one eye actually doesn't see one of the monitors - only the reflection of it.
Also, the method using a FS mirror requires either two LCD monitors or a polarizing filter over a CRT mirror. Can you describe the setup you're after for us to help you a little better?

I'm going for a setup like the one described here. I'm planning to mount the mirror on a panhead from a camera tripod so that it can flip back between the monitors - making them useful as a wide desktop for other purposes than stereoscopy.
I've used a CRT monitor and shutter glasses for years, and was looking for something better. I was almost at the point of buying a pair of LCD monitors, dismantle one of them and reversing the LCD panel when nVidia decided to include the mirror function in their driver. It was quite a downer to run into a trivial problem of buying the mirror once everything else was in place.
Thanks for the suggestion using silver nitrate (your link), but I think I'll try buying a ready made mirror a couple of weeks more before resolving to DIY-attempts.

Be warned that I don't think nVidia has gotten all the bugs out of their new mirror feature. So not all games will work flawlessly at the moment. I expect they will since they are try to support the StereoMirror product that requires this feature, but that time is not yet. Personally, I'm no quite comfortable rewiring my CRT monitor to flip the image, but I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone else due to the bit of danger involved if you're not careful.

I know of the dangers of CRTs. Once tried to repair an old TV and got the worst electric shock I ever had. But I'm talking about LCDs here.
Still, by the time I get my hands on a first surface mirror, nVidia will probably have sorted out the driver issues, and hardware modifications will be unnecessary. I hope.

If you're interested in at least testing out what it's going to look like, you can use just about any type of mirror/reflective surface, if you haven't tried that already. The front surface reflection isn't entirely necessary, but it does reduce glare and reflect a higher definition of light.
I tried using the data side of a DVD, and it worked. But my head naturally just moves too much for this to be a good solution for me, personally.
Do you know anyone that lives in the US that could get a FS mirror shipped to them and then out to you?

This shop's in the US, but you might want to contact them to see if they can ship where you are. It's worth a shot, at least (perfect size, too):

The company is very professional, they keep you updated every step of the way in multiple languages, and you can pay via paypal or credit card.
On a side note, I've bought one of their high power screens which supposedly has a gain of 2.0 - should prove to be quite effective against the darkening effect of shutter glasses.
It is by far the cheapest one around, and seems to be of high quality too - fully motorised etc, if anyone who uses projected 3D wants to look into it. For our non european friends, remember to ask for a VAT refund, as all european countries charge sales tax for european consumers.

I went for the one at Delphi Stained Glass, who ships worldwide. I guess the mirrors at exclusiv-online were a bit on the small size - very interesting other products at that site, btw.
