End Of 3D Vision. What Driver Should I Use? What About The Future?
  1 / 2
I'm currently using driver 387.92 which works great, but Steam VR is urging me to update to the latest Nvidia driver which is 425.31 and no longer supports 3D Vision. The last two drivers that include 3D Vision (418.81 and 418.91) appear to have quite a few problems per Google searches. The last stable driver for 3D Vision appears to be 417.71. Is that what I should update to? Have some of you tried 418.81 or 418.91 and found no problems? I'm wondering how long staying on these older drivers can last. Eventually VR is going to force me and many of you to upgrade to a non-3D Vision driver. I'm dreading that day as I still love 3D Vision and don't want to ever give it up entirely. I know there's discussions of some of you creating a means of keeping 3D alive but would require financial support. I'd be happy to contribute or pay a regular fee if that saves this incredible technology from obsolescence.

Was confused by Nvidia's statement that support would end after the 418 drivers. Guess this is the very last 3D Vision supported driver. Sad.

Yah, after this, it's hard to say. Perhaps there is a way to stop SteamVR from updating and requesting a new driver. AFAIK, it's just a nag screen that can be dismissed. But if a new driver is required for a new VR game, you'll probably want to Dual Boot and/or eventually build a new PC for VR depending on your current rig.

lol, this old thread randomly popped in my head while thinking of us being stuck on the last 3D Vision driver. I never tried it, but it helped another poster with a game, no idea if it could be made to work with Steam VR. But if not, I imagine something similar could be worked out, if Steam got to the point where they would not allowed the driver version "nag screen" to be dismissed. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/962633/pc-games/bypassing-the-driver-version-check-of-a-game-/1/

I have the same issue. What I did was use a HDD selector switch. They sell them on sites for $25-40, but they all work the same. It lets you select which HDD to boot. I have the following setup with no issues on 3 drives. You can have multiple GPUs and drives. Just when you set things up, disable the drives and hardware you don't need for that particular OS so everything still gets power, but is not recognized by any drivers. XP -> 780TI 3D Vision Win7 -> 780TI 3D Vision Win10 -> 2080RTX VR
XP -> 780TI 3D Vision Win7 -> 780TI 3D Vision Win10 -> 2080RTX VR
So why the XP 780ti for 3D Vision? Is there any benefit? Perhaps just some game compatibility? Also didn't Nvidia drop support for 3D Vision with XP long before the GTX 780ti came out? If so, how are you getting it to work? Since you say 3D Vision, I assume that it's not for an old legacy type setup that uses drivers from before 3D Vision came into official existence in 2009.

So, just to be perfectly clear (as I expect a LOT of people will be googling): Version 425.31 does work with 3D Vision. It's the last version that will work with 3D Vision. Version 430.39 does NOT work with 3D Vision. Am I correct?

430.39 doesn't show the option for 3D Vision. This is the driver that killed it. :(

And 425.31 does? What's extra bad is that 430.39 is the first version that properly supports the upcoming spring update for Windows 10.

I confirm this as well. holy fuck. Damn it! Theres got to be a way to override the 3D vision version driver mismatch error. sigh. So at least we can install it separately.
