DEAD SPACE 2
  11 / 12
Hey Guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've just finished DeadSpace 2 and I played it all the way until the end on 3D Vision. My two cents;

- 20-28% depth seems about right. Amazingly, there is a hell of a lot of pop out for a numerically low setting. I thought it was fantastic. I cant fathom 100% depth unless you have eyes on the side of your head like a fish.
- I'd rate it very high with respect to S3D. Particularly when you're browsing via your inventory and swirl around (amazing hologram like) - it made me feel I was in deep space science fiction. All the models rendered properly
- Yes, some lighting and fog caused 'duplicity' but it wasn't game breaking.
- The 'Iron Man' moment in Chapter 7 in S3D was amazing. Pure awesomeness and IS A SHOWCASE for S3D(my friend's jaw dropped - he then bought a 120hz screen the next day).

Honestly, some shadows and lighting aside it gets an excellent rating from me. It was never unplayable apart from ONE SCENE in the entire campaign. For a game not yet rated/configured its right up there and my dead space 2 experience was improved exponentially.

Again my 2 cents.

Nobody dude it is playable. The question is if it worth to play now with anomalies, or better wait until a fix. For me I have it clear... i will wait. I hope somebody is working to make this game compatible with nvidia 3d vision.

They didn't fix the last one so call me skeptical that this one will get fixed. The Nvidia response, if any is given, will be "the developers will have to fix it in their code."

I consider Dead Space 2 probably playable if you do all the adjustments I listed in my earlier post (haven't gone through the whole game yet).

It is NOT perfect and cannot be considered 3D Vision ready or even excellent because in order to qualify for those ratings the user should be able to freely adjust convergence and depth and the comfortable range for this is extremely limited in DS2. Not to mention the number of tweaks needed to get to even this state is kind of ridiculous.

Also, by adjusting the depth so that isaac is popping slightly out of the screen (to mitigate the doubled lighting issues), I've noticed that cutscenes are occurring so close to your face as to make you nearly cross eyed. This game is simply not ideal ... I do have standards for this stuff, unlike some people here. I will never claim this game is awesome or perfect in 3D because it simply is not. However ... again, I do think DS2 will be playable with the settings I threw out there and I'm going to do it as soon as my 3D TV arrives. The ofdr fix was a key missing piece in the whole puzzle ... huge kudos to the discoverer.

Does this work on STEAM versions at all? no workaround ?

I really wish there was a way to fool the Steam version into using the ofdr.exe, but it doesn't look good. I would have gone out and bought the boxed version had I known. Better yet would be to get Nvidia to allow users the ability to create a list of games that lets you apply different profiles to see what works best. Or add that option to the list that has all the different visual settings you can set per app, such as, anti-aliasing controlled by game or forced on, vsync always on or off....

On second thought it would need to be in the tab that deals with 3d vision, not the general 3d settings.

Screw everything I wrote, how about releasing the game 3D ready in the first, fvcking place, do we don't have to have frustrating discussions like this!

Google "steam rename exe mklink" and the very first link should show ya how to get around the steam exe problem. You'll have to use the command prompt to do it, be prepared for some long ass file directory location typing.

Please,has anyone tested Dead Space 2 with 3DTV Play???? I can't enable 1920x1080 24hz, only 1280x720 60hz 3D mode. It seems like Dead Space 2 doesn't accept 24hz refresh mode, If I try to play in 3D at 1920 x 1080 it will be in 60hz and I'll get the red message: 1920x1080 60hz is a not a HDMI 1.4 compatible resolution.
Please, I need a workaround for this, DS2 already looked awesome in the big screen in 3D at 1280x720, but I'm sure it will look a lot better in FULL HD 3D.

Please, 3DTV Play owners, let me now if you're experiencing the same problems???

I can confirm this works, but to me - I hate it. You lose pop and the difference to me is small.

I've found a thread here about Refreshlock tool and now and I can force 24hz for Dead Space 2 using 3DTV Play. DS2 is now playable at 1920x1080 24hz, sweet!!!!! I must say the DS2 is quite playable at 24fps, it's not a game that really demands more than 30fps, but 30 would be better than 24fps anyway.

I will finish Dead Space 2 using 3D Vision and my Alienware 120hz display. I'm now in chapter 10. Then after I finish the game I'll definatelly play the game again, but this time with 3DTV Play at 1920x1080 24hz. I was waiting for a game that was playable at 24fps to finally play for good a game using my 63" Sammy 3D Plasma TV, cause I don't stand 1280x720 in the big screen. 720p is unbearable for a 63" Plasma TV which it's native resoltion is 1920x1080.
So far I have only used my 3DTV for bluray3D and 3D videos, I've only tested a few games with 3DTV Play, but haven't really played any for more than an hour. I hate the 24hz limitation for 1920x1080 like most of you 3DTV Play owners and I refuse to accept 720p 3D mode.

Also, if I disable Vsync when playing any game with 3DTV Play in 1080p or 720p, they become unplayable, tons of tearing and you get dizzy while moving arround. It's funny though that when playing games in 3D with 3D Vision on my Alienware 23" display it's ok to disable Vsync cause you don't feel the dizzy effect while moving. I guess this has to do with the 3D mode used by 3D Vision (frame sequential) that is completely different from Frame packing used by 3DTV Play.
Anyway I always play with Vsync on using 3DTV or my 120hz Display cause it's better for 3D.

I had to figure out how to force 24hz using Refreshlock tool, I didn't know you had to unckeck the box where it says: Always use the fastest safe frequency for mode. If I keep this box checked, than I coudn't enter 24hz for 1920x1080. Good tool and very needed for 3DTV Play owners.

I also found out that Dead Space 2 is unplayable using the ofdr.exe fix for 3DTV Play, cause the flickering issue in the big screen is horrible and much more noticeable than using a 23" display and also makes my Samsung 3D glasses ficker as well. So you might use deadspace2.exe instead and it will look amazing. Somehow, don't ask me why, when using 3DTV Play frame packing the fog volume and ghosting issues are much less noticeable than using a 120hz display with 3D Vision. You can use higher depth and it's very playable.

I can confirm that Dragon Age Origins and Divinity 2 are both very well playable with 3DTV play at 1920x1o80,24hz. Probably this holds for many more RPG's. However I find it very annoying that we have to use a tool from 2003 to force games like Deadspace 2 to play in full HD, 24hz mode. Why is this not included within 3DTV play?

Got the game from eBay and installed yesterday.
Everything maxed out with BLURs are all off.
3d rendering with approx. 50% depth looks though looks nothing like Metro2033 but i can rate it a 3 star out of five.
NV needs to release a beta driver for this game soon.

I think Nvidia could fix many games, but prefer not enter in this "game" just to let developers to make the job. I understand the move, but we are the surferers of the consecuences when a good game is not supported by developers. I think the driver could be a proffesional program made by a proffessional company entirely dedicated to make the sofware as good as possible, and not what happend really. Stereo is something very interesting for people, and actually the only way to play is with a driver that do not improve really since years ago, the only difference coparing with the past is developers compatibility and the new hardware, Nvidia really does few things.

Stereo is something very interesting for people, and actually the only way to play is with a driver that do not improve really since years ago, the only difference coparing with the past is developers compatibility and the new hardware, Nvidia really does few things.
