What video card should I get?
Hi guys, i've been running with a geforce 8800GT. It played most games pretty well, but in 3d, some of the games got sorta choppy. I also run my games at native resolution of 1680 x 1050. Well, the other day, my video card died, so I'm looking to upgrade. Whats a video card should I get thats can play games well.

I'm looking to spend about $150 on one. I'm not to knowledgable on this stuff and don't know what to look at.

just in case you wanna see my specs, here you go:

Well, I have a 8800 GTS 320MB. The results are not that good as you imagine. Only a few maps, from a few games work well: Unreal 2004 / map plunge for example. The movies from Nvidia site work well, not perfectly. Even people who have top cards like GTX 285 complain about flags; if I were you I would wait for "GTX 300"...that's what I'm doing. It's my last hope.

There isn't going to be a GTX300; the new gen (Fermi) is GTX400 and is being released tomorrow. There won't be anything available for anywhere near the op's $150, though. To get the new gen, you're looking at at least $350-$500; possibly with slightly lower-priced variations by late summer.

Sit tight for a few weeks and see what happens to prices. My guess is you'll be able to grab a used GTX285 for $150-$200 in no time, and might even see brand new ones drop to that level by May or June. And fwiw, a GTX285 will chew through anything you can throw at it even in stereo 3d.

well if its just for video and for upcomming 3d blu-raydiscs and possibly games with low settings get a cheap gts250 I just purchased one of these for te htpc.

I have two gtx 280`s in my main comp for gaming and at the moment games play on those with high settings without problems.

If you can wait and watch the prices of the new gtx400 series.

at the moment £429 for a gtx480 is expensive and £309 for a gtx470.

I remeber paying £309 for my xfx 280 and a few months later I got another gtx 280 for £199, so it pays to wait :) or pick up a cheap gtx200 series card and use it untill the 400`s reduce :)

what about gtx295 now i know i said money is no problem but it turns out that the company considering about 1200$ per pc so £309 makes like $475 and i don't think i can afford it (though gtx 295 is like 500$ in here but all say that it's a great card for games) but maybe gtx 280 would fine,i t makes $305 so i can consider it and apart from the other parts (like cpu,mb,ram) i think second problem will be the power supply 'cos as i search gtx 290 just use 680W so i should consider at least a 800W ups
