Head Tracking does not work so well with a monitor because, for example, normally, when you look at the floor, you look away from the monitor.
Moving my head + eyes always looking at the monitor seems unnatural and not so fun.
what? vga port can do 3d at 720p 60hz? for example, all led tv these days only have vga and hdmi. if i hook it up to my gpu via vga, will it do 720p 3d at 60hz?

@Partol
People made headtracking with kinect sdk with pc.http://channel9.msdn.com/coding4fun/kinect/3D-Head-Tracking-with-Kinect-SDK--WPF
Or you can use wii mote and bar(cheaper solution)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
Or from a livecam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PQoO31VQLI
Or trackIR(Commerical)
These solutions will work aside from moving over 180*guesstimate* degreees.(I dont think the livecam one works as well)
360 degree headtracking is either very complicated and/or expensive.
These solutions will work much better with the hmd.
@shinobier
No idea what you are talking about. This device is HDMI 1.4. No vga can not support 3d 720p 60hz.

Not interested in Wii games. And not so impressed by only left/right "head tilting".
It's a good start though. I expect much more from head tracking.
Perhaps a gyroscope or accelerometer or something else is required to achieve the kind of head tracking which I desire.

Question: What is the point of head tracking? Is it mainly to use one's head as an input device? If so, then no thanks.
My vision of head tracking is REALISM.
For example: when I look at the floor or ceiling (in game), I also look at the floor or ceiling (in real life).
Even better: looking over my shoulder to check for enemies behind me. Obviously, this wont work with a monitor.
Tilting my head only 5-25?? deg, seems to me, is using my head mainly as an input device. It's not enough realism for me.
Already have keyboard + mouse which work very well as input devices (but no realism of course).
Would be wonderful if all my wishes are possible with the Kinetic but I won't believe it until I see it ... in popular PC games.

Have you ever tested TeackIR ir similair device? It really feels natural after 1min use(if latency is low). I think low latency "real" headtracking is quite expensive. Latency is big issue and i don't know how good Kinect is for PC but every game i have tested with Xbox lag is horrible and it's useless for headtracking if it's that bad also with PC. TIR5 is way better but like i said i do not know how Kinect work with PC.

Partol, I use TrackIR with Arma2 and it does make it more realistic. My gun is still pointing in the direction I'm walking in but I can quickly scan my surroundings without changing direction. I have set it up so that if I move my head, say 30 Degrees my game character moves his 90 Degrees. I can still see my monitor without too much eye movement and it feels very natural. I say natural, with my head covered with a TrackIR device attatched to my headset, 3D Vision glasses on and sometimes another pair of headphones, there's not much room left on my head.

Nice toy. Thanks for sharing that video but I dont see any head tracking there.
Gun tracking looks fun but head tracking is higher on my wish list.
Too bad, it seems Track IR is not fully supported all games.
This is what I am looking for except would like more than a 51.7° field of view in the TrackIR 5.

Head Tracking + Gun Tracking (or body/feet tracking) + Sony HMD would be epic!
Edit: I just realized something ... if you mount that gun on your head, then you get some head tracking.
Maybe not as good as Track IR, but it will be 360° and should work in all games. Hmmmm ... maybe
I should make my own head tracking with a gyration mouse .... mounted on my head. Thanks eqzitara
for such a great idea!
eqzitara,
Thanks for sharing that DIY headtracker mod!
Edit: Seems to me, you could simply attach a battery powered gyration mouse to your head, hat,or headphones and be done.
I just tested connecting 2 mice (one PS/2 and one USB) to my gaming PC and they both work simultaneously! Setup would be: one USB gyration (air) mouse on my head (for head tracking) and a standard PS/2 mouse on the desktop for normal mouse control.

$800 seems like kind of a lot to be limited to 720p, even if it results in a completely ghost-free 3D experience.
Hell almost a decade ago there were 480p HMDs at <$500. 10 years later I think Sony can do a little better than 720p for eight hundred dollars. They're really taking the piss with that price but at least they're on the right track with going back to HMDs for 3D.
Even if it were 1080p, chances are it would still be limited to HDMI 1.4 meaning 24 Hz 3D. Yuck.
Hopefully when they finally do release a 1080p HMD it won't be HDMI 1.4. I will not pay a huge amount of money for a 1080p 3DTV that can only play games at 24 Hz at that resolution. Never been a fan of 3DTV Play or the HDMI 1.4 standard thanks to that.

I would also bet the PS4 will be a virtual console and thats why Sony is experimenting with HMDs again and the next step will be adding tracking.

Guy breaks open a nerf gun replaces useing parts from gyration mouse + wireless keyboard full 360 degree headtracking(guntracking). Yes this could work much better with sony HMD(as long as you dont walk into walls)
