GTX 970 4K 3D VIsion gaming success with LGUB850V Passive TV

My TV is 55UC970 and I can select in Nvidia control panel 3dtvplay or chekerboard, with no edid modification. It works in 1080p but the quality is bad and I wanted to try it in 4k but when I set my desktop at 4k resolution I have no chekcerboard option in the TV menu (only 2d-3d, SBS, OU)

When using UB9500's 1080p checkerboard mode with NVIDIA's HDMI checkerboard mode, I only see distorted 2D test pattern - not 3D test pattern. Repeating myself (sorry), I suggest you contact NVIDIA Customer Care and request 3DTV Play to be fixed. In order to enjoy your UC970's best gaming potential, NVIDIA software and drivers should be updated to at least support full-frame 1080p @ 60 fps over HDMI (this is only HDMI 1.4b, not even 2.0)!

@Joker18, is the checkerboard quality on a 4k better than a 1080p TV, or worse, or same?

Depending on the manufacturer and model, some do support Checkerboard as an input. LG and other Passive 3D HDTVs output line interleaved only, due to the Film Pattern Retarder. They accept other formats as an input, but must post process the format to line interleaved. That's why a line interleaved input is desired, no post processing, no added lag.

[s]Have you tried the 1080p checkerboard? Can you comment as to the difference in quality between it and a normal 1080p TV? I imagine it would be scaled a bit, increasing input lag, but if not, and the quality was just as good, i could be myself switching to a 4k. Seems like a long shot though.[/s]

I do not understand why you are asking about Checkerboard on a Line Interleaved Display. My experience is that it's totally worthless, it does not convert well. MY passive JVC can process Sensio 3D that's available in Avatar(the game) and it's decent. But it's kind of an advanced Checkerboard format. Neither my LG or JVC like checkerboard as an input. I still can't wrap my head around how'd they would even begin to convert every other pixel in a checkerboard format to every other line for interleave. Other than using interpolation and discarding pixels on the wrong line.

Oh ya, i forgot about that. I never bothered with the passive after taking one look at them in 3D in the store because i sit so close. Ya, i can't imagine that would look very good unless some other magic was built in.

Libertine: Chekerboard look bad on my TV. There is no noticeable input lag but the image is like very low res. D-Man11 Nvidia doesn't give us (Passive 4K users) to many options so we have to take in consideretion every possibility. The only decent possibility is using a edid that supports line interleaved but this is only Full HD and I observed using Tridef that using 4k desktop res. and 1080p game looks better than 1080p deskptop with 1080p game, probablly scales differentlly.

I just found out while downloading an old driver that NVidia used to support side by side and Sensio. ◦Supported stereoscopic video layout ◾Monoscopic ◾Interlaced (Field-Sequential) ◾Side by Side ◾Over/Under ◾Multi-View (Tiled) ◾Sensio ◾SIS Attachment http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_3d_vision_winvista_win7_196.21.html EDIT: I wonder what display supported this back then? Some of the old 3D DVDs used to be recorded in Sensio.

Only the 3D video player accepted this formats (and probably as input file not output format). I don't think they were usable for gaming.

I think you are right. Because now that I look at it again, it's in a section with "NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player Overview" as a header.

For video, use Stereoscopic player with the Nvidia licence, then you could use all type of 3D output format. You can also watch full Bluray 3D with Stereoscopic Player, do this to add the licence "CST Nvidia" into Stereoscopic Player to avoid paying 40$: (post is in french) http://www.lesnumeriques.com/legrandforum/avis/Ecrans-TV-Videoprojecteurs/crosstalk-videos-unique-sujet_6950_40.htm#t311734 3DVision Video Player download link: http://fr.download.nvidia.com/Windows/3d_vision_stereo/3D_Vision_Video_player/NVIDIA-3D-Vision-Video-Player-1.7.5.msi (to get the licence) Stereoscopic Player download link: http://www.3dtv.at/Downloads/StereoscopicPlayer233.exe .

Checkerboard on passive is low res, that's true. Line interleave would be the best on passive, for a lot a reasons already stated. How are the different games working out for you?
