switching monitor to ROG PG278QR kills my 3d in ROTR
I recently switched from a vg278 (the one with the built-in emitter) to an Asus ROG PG278QR, and my Rise of the Tomb Raider 3d is all messed up. The 3d is enabling, but I'm just getting double screens all over the place, sometimes even with one eye closed. I'm playing the Steam Version, so I'm forced to use the "official" 3d support rather than the Helixmod, as Steam now forces game updates. All of my games that were previously working in 3d seemed to make the transition fine. A bit odd, as the tomb raider series has always been my solid goto 3d game, as one of the few series that officially supports it. Any ideas on getting the official working, short of dloading a pirated version of a game I already own so I can roll back to version that will work with Helixmod? Or if somebody has a workaround for steam's forced updates, that would be great too. What a pain for our community those steam forced updates are :-(

I used the built in 3D for Rise of the Tomb Raider just fine... once I got it working. I remember I had to play with the settings a good bit before I got the game working right. Just keep playing with the settings and you should get it. (Or check back further in the forums. I think I posted something.)

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

From what you described it sounds like you're running ROTR on dx12. Have you checked if the game is actually running on dx11 and not dx12? If that's not the problem then you should mess around in the in-game settings like Zloth said or use Display Driver Uninstaller in Safe Mode and reinstall your nVidia drivers after you reboot. On second thought I remember this happening in GTA 5 as well and it's caused by the game's built-in stereo mechanism failing. The usual solutions are alt+enter or toggling 3D on and off with the nVidia shortcut or in the in-game options.

I get this issue every now and then with these rog swift monitors and it always comes back to a driver problem. Although its usually global not for just one game. A clean install with the driver using DDU usually brings it right, with the one trick that you must also power down the monitor completely. (take out the power) for about 5 minutes before doing so.

I am indeed running in Dx12, but that's because when I deselect dx12 in the ROTR setup screen my option for 3d disappears from dropdown box (apart from SBS). Am I missing something here? Is there a way to force dx11 and 3d? I can't really even see the resolution difference anywhere but the desktop, looks the same in games. On the frame rate thing, I thought the G-sync might help smooth out modern games. It didn't. Even on my 1080 running modern games at 200+ fps, they lack a "smoothness" that pretty much all pc games used to get at 60fps+. But that's a rant for another thread. But I'd ask some others here their opinion on clarity improvements, as I only have a good eye for frame rate.
I get this issue every now and then with these rog swift monitors and it always comes back to a driver problem. 3D Vision has never worked correctly under DX12 so yeah you need to use DX11. In your case I don't think you need to DDU because it's clearly a game configuration problem. It should solve itself if you disable DX12 and restart the game. You might also want to disable "3D enabled on game launch" using this tool http://helixmod.blogspot.ro/2015/10/advanced-3d-vision-configuration.html as it sometimes prevents this sort of problems from happening with built-in stereo 3D but from my experience this might break or fix certain games especially if you're using community fixes so I guess it depends on each game. Also you should check if you're actually in Fullscreen mode since that might disable the 3D option too. Other things you can try are Alt+Enter or check if toggling 3D on and off works before you go anywhere in the game options. LE: Just checked the game now and first thing I thought where has my 3D option gone lol but it turns out I had disabled 3D in the Control Panel so I selected 3D in the game options and everything works fine here on DX11. Another thing you should try if nothing works: - disable 3D in NVCP and start the game - enable 3D in NVCP and see if the 3D option appears I totally forgot that this game had another start-up menu but even so the things I mentioned could still work when it comes to things like this.
