Would you like to see DX10 support with Nvid 3D &/or iZ3D? Yes or No

Yay
Nay
I have a 5 year old Dell Dimension 4600i, Pentium 4, 2.8GHz, 1.5GB RAM, and the only upgrade I've done besides the RAM is the video card. It's AGP not PCI, that's how old it is but it is about the best AGP card you can get. The Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS with 256MB RAM. I'm using the Nvidia GeForce 178.24 video drivers with the Nvidia Stereo drivers version 162.50 from Guru3D.com. Also at times I use iZ3D's 1.09 Stereo Drivers when Nvid 3D just ain't doin the trick.

Basically, I'm kinda strapped for cash lately and because my dell motherboard only has AGP, no PCI, I can't really do any more upgrading to it. I would be happy enough to have a Card and CPU that could run Crysis in full 3D or GTA: San Andreas with ENB series updated Graphics mod, also while running Growler Guncam screen capturing but unless I can overclock, and use DX10 pluss a really stable OS with Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC and Registry Booster all working together to "Give it More Powuer", it just ain't gonna happen for me. I can run Crysis on medium settings with iZ3D stereo but I would really like to get better post-processing compatibility with my 3D drivers. I hear a lot of DX10 Games don't work with Nvidia 3D, not sure about iZ3D but I very much think it would be the same since it also has post processing conflicts. I have Vista with DX10 but there's no point to installing it if 3D doesn't work, pluss the OS as far as I hear is actually worse than XP.

SO, let's get this poll going and see if it can't get enough responses. I'd like to be able to get enough of the 3D gamers together to really give DX developers and Nvid / iZ3D developers the insentive to work together more for a worth while combination. I'm making multiple polls on different forums and I'll be sending them in links through various emails I have and by other means of hopefully reaching some sort of influence. THanks alot, start polling.

I believe there's work in progress at both "camps" and stereosupport will come in dx10 when enough games supports it. And in the end hopefully stereo even is implemented in the directx! Yay!! Noone needs to interpret instructions anymore since the gameoutput already supports 3d (one can dream right?)! :D
But for the moment there might be objects with slightly higher priorities (ability to run as many games as possible with as few flaws as possible). I know that dx10 support is high priority at iz3d at least. Wouldn't surprize me if nvidia also is going to support it soon.

That is good to hear, it seems like everytime I try to play a game with graphics better than Driv3r or GTA SA stereo drivers just can't handle it well or at all. A huge selling point for 3D would be to have a demo of, lets say Crysis or GTA IV, or SKATE, working smoothly with stereo drivers in the average computer store regularly. I believe the sooner this stuff gets out there the sooner virtual reality will be on the market :)

Most DX10 games won't run 3D with DX10 enabled, you've got to turn it off (and run in DX9) in order to get the stereoscopic view going.

This isn't the best of polls though. DX10 is only supported by Microsoft in Vista and Windows 7, so having XP support in with a DX10 support poll is kind of counter productive.

XP is on the way out. It's like it was 10 years ago. Vista is windows ME and Windows 7 is Windows 2000. XP will disappear just like 98se did, and I'm looking forward to it.

Why put in support for an old OS when we need improved support for DX10 and Windows 7. Focus on the future, not behind. They don't design games to be 5 years behind, they design them to be ahead of the hardware curve.

Windows XP was released in 2001, 8 years ago this October. Sure, it's stable because it's been around for eons (in terms of technology, 8 years is extremely old.)

If your running a 3D system and forking over the several hundred dollars for the 3D Vision setup, you should have a powerful enough system to drop XP. If you don't and your having problems, maybe you should spend the money on other upgrades before dropping it on 3D.

Edit:
After thinking about it, they have to be working on improved DX10 support. If they weren't, then the 3D vision would already be obsolete and it's death sentence written. They had to start with DX9 because most of the games supported DX9, DX10 is on it's way I'm sure.

XP is a huge performance increase from Vista. Why should we have to deal with lower framerates and MUCH lower game compatibility just to have a fancier start menu? Bloody ridiculous!

I dual-booted Xp and Vista and saw only a slight performance drop in some games, none in others, and improvement in vista in one. If you don't have a powerful enough system to run Vista then you shouldn't run it. The same can be said for the 3D setup since it's going to cut your frame rate in HALF, not by two or three fps.

Personally, 2-6 FPS drop in some games was worthwhile for the other improvements in Vista; 3D vision is just the icing on the cake =)

Well, you're right XP is pretty old, but like you said it's stable. Not to mention almost everything that comes out these days can and will be supported by XP either by the creators or with a few modifications. I'm sure that after Windows 7 has been out for awhile XP will really start dying off but that won't be for at least another year or two. Also, there are still a lot of people using XP and not just because it's still compatible with most games and programs that come out these days, but because they've gotten use to it and actually prefer it to having to relearn all the new little tricks that come with newer Operating Systems. Pluss it's not really worth it unless there is a significant improvement, for example I hear that Windows 7 will be able to be installed in like 7-15 minutes. That's great and all but if it is a volnurable OS or doesn't really give that much more improvement a lot of people won't get it. Not to mention all the people who aren't really computer savvy and don't really look into things as much as people like us, they won't really want the new stuff because XP has all they need which is probably just a few games, wordpad, the calculator, photo minipulators, and internet access. I just think if these people want to play a game in 3D, they shouldn't have to spend $3,000. I don't even really need to upgrade my system, I can run 3D just fine as well as some PhysX support which looks really great in 3D, all I need is for the 3D to be compatible with post proccessing. I just won a 22" iZ3D monitor and I would just like to able to use it for what I want without having to spend all that extra money on things I know I don't need, but that people want me to buy just to make a profit off of me so they can sucker me in to all the new problems it will have, which I'm sure they've mastered as a profiting technique by now, so that I'll have to keep upgrading and upgrading till my pockets are empty and my head explodes, ain't gonna happen. Come to think of it, if they exclude all these people from the new technology, they will actually just be cutting themselves off from making any money off of them, although I'm sure it won't matter because of all the suckers who do upgrade to the new stuff. No offense to anyone ;).

If they make 3D compatible with DX10 that means it will have to support post proccessing and then can be backwards compatible with DX9 post proccessing effects. That's what I'm looking for so I don't have to upgrade. I know all these companies want to suck as much money out of people as they can so they make it a pain in the ass to stay with what you've got, look at digital cable for example, but I still think it's messed up to leave people who don't want to upgrade out in the rain just because you think that the OS we like is outdated by new technology standards. BTW, a lot of people have even managed to find a way to trick a lot of Vista based software into thinking that XP is Vista. Not myself, but it just goes to show you how many people think the same way I do and prefer XP and the lengths they would go to keep it. I know it might seem counter productive like you said, but the companies making this new technology are still going to be filthy stinking rich and they don't need every single last person to empty their pockets for them. So I'll stick with what I've got and when the economy is better and it's easier to find work in my field, maybe I'll start thinking about SuperBlackBerry9000s and Playstation 10s and Windows 75, but in the mean time Windows XP is good enough.

Thanks for your input though Serus, and thanks for voting, everyone else as well.
