Depth of DLP 3D Vision
Hello,

i heard that 100% depth on a DLP Beamer will be equal to 15% depth on a normal screen. Is that right ? If yes, is there a way to get a deeper depth manually ?

Thank you in advance.

Google 3D vision depth hack. It works, but has the obvious flaw.

Best if you hack the VGA pin and force the driver into generic CRT mode, then you will have proper depth control on a projector.

Why am Not surprised to see nVidia's Stereo3D a shambles even after 10 years? /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' />

I'm not sure where you get this info...
It's more the other way around,imo...

I have both dlp beamer and 23" lcd and the depth on the beamer looks deeper because of the wider screen I use (95inch)
I'm also using 3dvision(glasses) and not the dlp ones...

The nVidia driver has arbitrary limitations on separation, and is dependent on the screen size the driver detects.

The larger the screen, the smaller the max separation.

The "hack" overrides this screen size value to something quite small, allowing for a far larger degree of separation.

I have been Stereo gaming for over 10 years, like many old timers here. Our eyes have been trained to allow up to 500% more separation than what the nVidia driver will allow. This is needed to make the 3D world in games as "3D" as the real world.

This is just one of the many arbitrary restrictions that nVidia puts on the driver. We have been asking for advanced control of the settings for the last 10 years, and far from it being granted, more and more restrictions have been put into place.

The old nVidia driver, for example, did not have any maximum separation limit.

3dvision driver does not recognice my projection screen, only the projector itself...
So the lower depth setting is more noticeable on smaller projection screens then on the bigger ones..right ?

Correct.

All projectors have a minimum and maximum projection distance, which is taken into account when determining the separation cap. So yes, the driver estimates what screen size your specific projector is projecting.

Some old drivers even let you select the screen size.

RAGEdemon....Curious, i your opinion, what the best driver release has been for DLP projection with 3d vision.
It may just be me....but I swear the drivers from 6-8 months ago were a bit sharper picture quality than the latest.

Thanks

Hello Danny,

The "old driver" that I refer to is the driver before "3D Vision" was launched. This was many years ago. It is not compatible with any hardware post 8XXX series.

It too was very limited, but in a different way. There was no post processing support for example.

To answer your question, I would have to say that visual quality wise, I have not noticed any difference. That is not to say that there isn't any. Perhaps your eyes are better than mine ;-)

Many thanks for the hint about the hack, it works wonderfull. In the monitor registration was the monitor dimension set to 220". I just cvhange it to 110" and the *depth feeling* for exaample in Alice Madnes Returns is now much much better than before.
