Using the .inf file to update the driver for the Playstation 3D Display I have been able to play numerous games in 3D without a hitch, however, DiRT 3 and Burnout Paradise will not display at a resolution of 1280x720. All I get when I change the resolution is a black screen which then causes the display to lose it's signal and shut off. This happens with and without 3D enabled. In DiRT 3's case I can only play in a window at any resolution.

If someone has access to these games could you test them to see if it is an isolated case or not. Obviously, considering this display is not officially supported there are going to be some issues but it drives me a bit crazy nonetheless.

System specs include a 460 GTX with the Beta 290.53 display drivers on Windows Vista 64.

Had something like this happen on another program and the solution was to go into nvidi contorl panel and set up stereoscopic 3d and click Hide stereoscopic 3d effect when game starts then use control + t when your ready to start the 3d.

The ps3 sony display is using a thing called frame packing. It's basicly cheating and sending the 2 different full size pictures as one frame for 3d,then the monitor switches, putting each picture out for each eye. If you were at 60hz it would be like 120hz output 60hz per eye.(maybe even 240hz if the monitor is doing it's switching at 4x. that would be 120hz per eye.) It's why you don't get flicker or end up with a 3d blue ray movie looking like it's at 12hz.(12hz would be very noticable flicker and drive you nuts. that 24 hz is effectivly switching to at least 48hz.)
If this display does goto 240hz then it just repeating some of the same pics more then once. But that repeating reduces any flicker you might have been able to see at a lower rate. I've use this display on blu ray 3d movies with a ps3 and it very much reminds me of how a movie in the theater looks and behaves when played at the 24 frames per second they show them in.

Yes, I have the same question. Well, I suppose I have several questions...

1) Is it worth buying this game as a computer monitor? I want to be able to play games in 3d...
2) Does the hacked ini file work really well and is it difficult to install?
3) This monitor is on sale at Bestbuy right now for $299.99. Should I make the purchase or not?

I was hoping I could play 3d PC games on it as well which I can't
if I knew that my computer or more my graphic card wasn't compatible I definitely would have not bought it
who knew certain 3d TVs were not compatible
I thought they were all the same
now I know better
worse part is my Nvidia card actually recognizes the TV as a 3d TV
just 3d PC games won't display 3d on it
just don't get it at all
if somebody actually explains how to use and install the modded inf file and it works fine then I would say buy the TV
if not then it's not worth the price even at $299 for just PS3 games and/or to watch 3d movies unless you have money to blow
I'd rather get a 3d TV or monitor that works with both PC and console games

by the way does anyone know if any video cards actually work with the PS3 3d TV

The physical connections are only the start of the problems, HDMI is pin-compatible with SL-DVI, so you could just use an HDMI to SL-DVI adapter to accomplish this today without physically modifying your TV. The problem goes beyond that however to the signaling components in the monitor that simply do not allow for 120Hz signaling input with the current HDMI chips on the market for consumer products. This may change in the future, but when it does, those benefits will almost assuredly not be retroactive for older HDMI spec parts.

I would read over the thread carefully, if you are OK with the uncertainty of support and the workarounds required to get this working, then go for it. Otherwise, I would say you are better off looking for a supported solution that supports both HDMI 1.4 3D and 3D Vision and spending a little more.

I would also refine your questions a bit more and ask yourself these questions:

1) Which 3D games are you buying this monitor for? PC or PS3? If you're mainly hoping to play PC games, you may want to go for an officially supported solution.

2) The hacked INI isn't any more difficult than updating NIC drivers via device manager, and if it works it will work as well as any other HDMI 1.4 3DTV today. But it may not work tomorrow, or when the next driver is released. If you are OK with the constant uncertainty of support and whether this will work with your PC games, then go for it.

3) Same as #1, #2, you have to ask yourself the main reasons for buying this panel and whether or not you're willing to accept the fact that you will be providing your own support via unsupported workarounds for as long as you own this monitor and want to play PC games with it using Nvidia's solution.
Sorry if this comes off as cold or unsympathetic, but these are the kinds of questions you have to ask yourself and be OK with the answers to avoid the kind of angst and frustration you see throughout this thread.
