Alternative for older DX6 games DirectX 6 not supported
As mentioned in other threads, 3D Vision does not support many DirectX 6 games such as Thief: The Dark Project, Thief Gold, System Shock 2, Unreal Tournament (UT99), Deus Ex, etc. The last two now are supported thanks to the community - not to nVidia - releasing a DX9 rendering layer for the Unreal engine. ( http://kentie.net/article/d3d10drv/ )

I'm very disappointed that these titles, which clearly are listed as compatible under "NVidia Control Panel -> Stereoscopic 3D -> View compatibility with games", crash on launch when S3D is enabled. A number of threads that already discuss this topic have resigned to giving on 3D support for these classics.

I bought a Samsung 2233RZ in order to play Thief and Shock2 in 3D, and I'm not yet ready to give up. Are there any alternatives?
- Other brands of 3D glasses that are compatible with the 2233RZ and with Windows 7 x64? I want to keep my Samsung, so getting a different monitor is out.
- DX9 rendering layer for Thief, System Shock 2, etc., similar to the one for UT99 and Deus Ex?

Final rant: I don't expect NVidia to support decade-old games, but come on! If a game is on the compatibility list, then don't break compatibility! /verymad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':verymad:' />

If you search, all these games have been discussed before, and unfortunately there is no solution which uses the 3D Vision glasses. The solution is the older E-Dimension glasses, WinXP, 7xxx series card and some very old nvidia drivers. IIRC you also need to use a CRT.

I desperately wanted to play Thief/Thief2 and SS2 in 3D also, but alas it's not possible with 3D Vision.

7xxx series card? So eDimension doesn't support DVI out? What about the ZALMAN ZM-M220W? Of course, I'm keeping my 3D Vision set since so many games look incredible with it! ;-)

Apparently not. I can't use my eDimensional PC package as my card (GTX 275) only has DVI output and eDimensional's dongle is only a VGA connector. I tried using the DVI-VGA converter plug but get no video output form the dongle. No luck either with their adapter cable that pulls power from your keyboard connector. Support is abysmal. Looks like they've decided not to keep up with developments in video tech for the PC's. I still use my eDimensional "Virtual FX" 2D-3D converter in the livingroom, though, until something better comes along. The new PowerDVD 10 is definitely NOT it however, with it's "twisted screen" 3D effect.

.....and has Nvidia responded at all to people asking why they are blatantly lying in the NCP 3D compatibility list? I'm guessing that's a no considering it's still there.

If Nvidia doesn't get their act together on these simple, stupid little fixes any other company wanting customer satisfaction would have taken care of by now, they're going to start seeing interest in 3D Vision dwindle rapidly. Especially once AMD and iZ3D/DDD start to shape up their game. And if they don't either, I honestly fear PC 3D gaming might always be in this limbo while the rest of the 3D world (consoles, movies, tv) has their nice standard everyone complies by.

They just copied the compatibility list from the old-style nvidia stereo drivers and added to it. Several people have told them the list is not correct for 3dvision but they won't listen /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' /> They should really re-test all the games on the list and make a new one.

Yeah, I just bought Deus Ex on Steam for $5 and was a little perturbed that 3D would enable (with an excellent rating) but there was zero separation. So I downloaded the no-cd crack from here and renamed it "DeusEx1" and it works fine now. Yay. There's an older post about renaming the file, but it takes the crack with the steam copy. The game's pretty cool. Much better in 3D.
