Deathorb, are you testing on the first map of Hard Rest in the open area?
I would skip that area. There is so much activity there (cpu and graphical).
Frame rates change very quickly there, when moving only a little.
I am testing in the tunnel that leads to the very first big fight, on the first map.

TESTING
In order to test low frame rates, only one cpu core was enabled.
All 2D tests were done while both 3D Vision and v-sync were disabled in the nvidia control panel
Graphic settings = 1920x1080, low quality, no AA

In 2D (no 3D Vision and no v-sync) in one location, I see 68-72fps.
In the same location, with 3D vision on and triple buffering on, I see 40-43fps (according to Afterburner).
Triple buffering appears to be working.

Here are all my Hard Reset test results (with triple buffering on)
100-120fps in 2D --> 58-60fps in 3D
85-90fps in 2D --> 50-52 fps in 3D
68-72fps in 2D --> 40-43fps in 3D

Appears I was wrong about only needing 60fps (from the cpu) in 2D to see 60fps in 3D.

This is strange (but RELEVANT) findings there!
It would seem that the fps switching issue could be fraps related, but wait!
I hear that afterburner (which i use for o.c.) records total fps, not per eye.
As previously stated - could you use fraps and just record simple 2d rates(triple b off, no cpu changes)followed by simple 3d (tb on, 100% depth).
A download of fraps is easy and non - invasive!
http://www.fraps.com/download.php - just leave it running - no need to record - just be honest and walk around (look at walls,etc.).Try and find whatever the fps settles to in different conditions.

Thank you! (can u state your res? And even better - try in 720p! my res.)

P.S. will now try afterburner as well.
update
afterburner seems fine! duplicates fraps.
hard reset - still only 30 or 60 fps in 3d, 140ish 2d
driver sf - 60 in 3d (not a taxing game), 120 capped in 2d

Get your point grestorm but - no it gets 40 or 50 I believe.
Besides - happily thanks to your kind experimentation Helifax,
I could say this-

'After various testing with 3d vision, it was found that framerates sent by the gpu
appear not to be forced at a static multiple of the monitors refresh rate.
This was also not the case with hard reset - as a value of 40, perhaps would have been seen.

It would appear that even in 3d - a frame can be displayed for any number of display cycles.
Perhaps it is the case that these cyclic images are processed in a similar fashion in 3d -
as they are in 2d.

I would however conclude - from helifax's results, that an even amount of frames does not need to be produced. This wouldn't sit well with the need for a dual display solution, such as 3d.
Questioning this and perhaps the accuracy of fraps would be call for further discussion.
Multi-monitor displays are also not affected - as they are seen as a single display by the system.
They can however, suffer from some form of error - in the form of screen tear and other, occasional artifacts.Again, no doubt - a cause for discussion.

In conclusion the experiment was overall - a success. Various hypothesis were drawn, and results were conclusive. 3d framerates are not affected by v-sync - by being forced into multiples of the
monitors refresh rate. Good news to anyone looking for an upgrade.'

Well thanks and goodbye! (joking)
Will post again later - but overall - good!
Looks like testing bf3 beta in 3d is off, however! (whats the problem dice?)

helifax, do you know that v-sync is always on when "stereoscopic 3D" is enabled in the nvidia control panel?
That's why you only see up to 120fps on a 120Hz display when "stereoscopic 3D" is enabled in the nvidia control panel.
v-sync stays on ... even if you choose "v-sync force off".

Stereoscopic 3D must be disabled in the nvidia control panel if you want v-sync off.

I'm sure he knows that, but can I state that for me personally, I feel that nvidia should have
better facilities present on their site for explaining various 3d related facts - and of course benchmarks, especially for SLI.

Does anyone have any SLI benchmarks for the 460? Specifically in 3d at 720p?
A whole range of hdmi enabled projectors where aimed at that market - namely because 3d often appears better on a bigger screen. And of course even for the paltry 'under 30 inch' monitors that are available I see little benchmarking! Of course there are 3d TV's that are larger - but they don't tend to be used so much by pc enthusiasts, and many will choose multi-monitor setups. Again hardly any benchmarks are available!

I also hate the way that current drivers tend to show fixes for the 500's and almost disregard their
other cards. Hopefully if sites like 3dizzy ever get going - they could answer many questions.

Hi,

Yes I know! If 3D Vision is ticked in nv control panel vsync is automatically forced (even in 2d). In the last part of the video I wanted to show that triple buffering was disabled. My fault for selecting the damn Vsync option:)) And there is no option for enabling triple buffering in the game. So I can assume that the game does not use triple buff by default....
Anyway this was the result I get in this game (and all the games that I played).

Sorry for the misunderstanding from the last part of the video.

The triple buffer option in nVidia's control panel (and in NVInspector) is for OpenGL only. This is not obvious at all, but it has been true since I've been using this (I've been the developer of nHancer, so I got some experience with these options).

However, in Direct3D, triple buffering is almost always used when VSync is enabled. I don't know why this isn't working in Hard Reset.

-triple is not default I dunno what is he talking about, theres huge input lag difference (and fps) between dual/triple buffered settings, especially with SLI.

Not played shooters recently, but I found triple buffering plenty double edged.

This is because you need over 120 fps in 2d - to stay at 60 per eye - in 3d,
a single frame lower, and it will drop to 30!
In borderlands with 3dvision on fraps shows me 54 fps. I have vsync forced off from nvidia control panel, maybe that's doing it.
And no - 3d at 30 per eye doesn't feel as smooth as 60 fps in 2d

Doesn't it? I think it does. The only difference is that in 3D the screen is darker.

Doesn't it? I think it does. The only difference is that in 3D the screen is darker.
