3D vision is more immersive than real time raytracing
I've recently bought a RTX 2080 Ti. It is a great card. I played BFV with DRX on, looks great! I understand that real time ray tracing is very advanced and it is amazing that it is now achieved on a single GPU.
I wanted to vent my opinion on 3D vision vs ray tracing (as I see ray tracing gets more focus for the future, and 3D vision gets less).
I've read on a site ov nvidia, or heard in a YouTube video, that real time ray tracing provides a more immersive gaming experience. Well, I am so used to playing games in 3D (With a Vr headset and 3D vision), and DRX on or off does not make a difference for me with respect to being immersed in the game. I even (bluntly?) state that reflections with depth (3D Vision) are more immersive for me than real time ray tracing on a 2D game experience.
I pity that nvidia no longer maintains the drivers for 3D vision (since 418). I understand that many gamers don't buy a 3D vision setup because VR is out. But, VR is not the same. The gaming style is way different.
Star Wars Battlefield II and Battlefield V are now way the same if you would play it with VR, it just isn't. The movement for VR needs to be just right, and the game needs to be adjusted to that.
For me, games like the forementioned just don't work out with VR (or one should have a whole gym to freely move around). I would even pledge for improving 3D vision still. Come on! It is depth perception! Real time ray tracing in that respect is no match for the experience of an extra dimension!

Well obviously not. You have two eyes. No matter how high the resolution and how advanced graphics get it won't surpass the simulation of how you perceive the real world with depth that occurs with a properly supported (or fixed) game in stereo.
All I see raytracying is a technology that will take away from my 3dvision performance at this stage for little actual benefit. I feel the same way about extremely high resolutions like 8k. The bottom line is these technologies should compliment each other not one be superseded for the other, and 3dvision is clearly more impressive if you actually experienced it before. Yes, even at standard 1080p 60fps
Every single person I have shown a game in 3dvision like DMC5 or Mortal Kombat 11 has been simply blown away to the point they will exclaim things like. "why did I not know about this?" "I don't see graphics getting any better than this!" and "Why is this not how EVERYONE plays games?"
It's actually really sad.

Well...
I love RTX and I think it is awesome on a 2D plane.
I also love Stereo3D and 3D Vision, viewing things on a 2D plane in 3D.
I also love VR (which is still stereo3D, quite different than 3D Vision from a lot of points. The only thing in common is stereo3D and that's it).
I am waiting for the time when we all use VR(stereo3D) with RTX ^_^.
Now... I bet that will be something quite awesome, wouldn't it?
These are technologies that are currently stand-alone, but could work together in the future in ONE 3D MEDIUM (either VR, Stereo Projection or whatever). The only problem is the horse-power to drive all of them together!
So, I hope that in my lifetime I will be able to see 90% of the newly released games on day ONE in stereo3D with Raytracing and 2D will be a thing of the past... just how we look now on the ATARI era and the pixels big as fists;) Sure, those games have that RETRO feeling. This is what I hope 2D will become in the next 40 years... that retro feeling of playing in 2D on a flat 2D "monitour" ;)
Just 40 more years to wait ^_-

Yep. Every singly person I shown 3D movies or games to, EVERY SINGLE ONE including females I've brough over have all been wowed by it. I was late to the party but I still wonder how 3D didn't take off.
No matter how much they bump resolutions and add HDR, it just isn't the same immersion. I wish all these naysayers would spend time with a proper 3D set. From what I see it seems not even Nvidia's team know how good 3D can be given that the community have been the ones to bring 3D to 1080p60 and above.
Seeing all these new monitors that tout 4K144hz. I just shake my head in sadness knowing none of it comes close to 3D. And what could have been with displays was 3D still supported

You are definitely preaching to the choir here, but the dream would be Ray tracing with true 3D. If anything good comes from the incoming 3D apocalypse, is that maybe we get a stand alone 3D driver working and then DX12 support for 3DMigoto. Then you can have it all, and performance should be better by then. Its a long shot, but that is the hope at least..

I couldn't agree more, it just a prettier 2d game, that's it. 3D is just another level.
Still for me VR is the next level. It feels like 3d vision in the first days for me, when I just downloaded game after game to see how they looked and get wowed with them. Now I can't stop trying games with Vorpx, and even ridiculously old games like Borderlands 1, Dark Messiah or Amnesia look great.
Just a few minutes ago I tried Fallout New Vegas with the New California mod, and with the Pimax 8k at 2400p and directvr it looks so ridiculously amazing and immersive, it makes the rest of gaming (even 3d vision sorry) look almost prehistoric.
The funny thing is I'm really bored of native VR games with very few exceptions, they are basic, look average, last 1 or 2 hours, but rediscovering old games in VR is becoming my new obsession lol.

I've loved the legacy Nvidia 3D driver since the TNT/ ELSA revelator days, but recently really warming up to the current 3D Vision driver. I've been enjoying it for months on my 3D ready projector @ 1024*768. Awesome for games of the period that resolution and 4:3 ratio was the norm, but since I got my ASUS 3D vision monitor and can see and compare 3D visions 1920*1080 to other 3D methods and monitors, such as Tridef. I am amazed at how much more detail their is with my 3D Vision monitor then any other method including my 3D vision projector.
Battlefronts I&2 are simply stunning. I can play them @ 1920*1080 on my projector with Tridef with a 89" diagonal picture but, I much prefer to play those on my 21" ASUS with 3D vision.
I'm totally indifferent to real time ray tracing, as I was to bit mining.

It's a VR wrapper (www.vorpx.com) that basically makes normal games work in VR, it's similar to 3d vision in that in takes any game and it adapts it to VR, and also works in full 3D. There're 20-30 games that support DirectVR, which look quite close to native VR games and are amazing, and a few hundred supported games that are OK in VR, but not as good. Old games work really well since it can be performance heavy and 3d is nearly as good as 3D Vision, modern games sometimes have typical issues we know well (shadow issues, lighting issues etc), some of them are ok, others not so much, and many games are fixed by disabling shaders, instead of fixing them like we're used to see with 3d vision.
Still, it's amazing to see a ton of games working in VR at lifelike scale like you're there, it can be mindblowing. The Witcher 3 works too, but 3d vision is basically superior for 3rd person games, since VR headsets are currently well below par compared to 3d projectors and monitors it terms of image quality and resolution, so first person games take the most benefit. It can be an alternative for anyone without 3d hardware, since currently it supports every HMD on the market.
