Might & Magic X: Legacy
  1 / 6
Checked this out. Sadly currently unplayable. Shadows are totally messed up, but even if turned off, objects split in 2 ruining everything. But 3D effect here is very good, really enhances gameplay. Im pretty sure if issues are fixed, game will look as good as Legend of Grimrock.

Really sad and dissapointed with the 3d support on this game even with the best convergence / depth settings. I was looking forward to play this in 3d. If anyone has any tips on how to fix the issues let us know Maybe someone can use this tool and create a patch for the game http://helixmod.wikispot.org/How_To_Make_Your_Own_Fixes http://helixmod.blogspot.com/

I already looked and managed to fix a couple of minor issues and water reflections but I am not going to do anymore. None of the shaders have any header information, and many of them are shader model 2, so need converting as well (which is easy, but still an extra step). Vertex Shaders are fixable, but not having headers in the Pixel Shader files is the real killer though, you simply don't know what's going on, and all the main issues are going to need Pixel Shader fixes. It's the Unity engine and they are all like this.

Just how hard is it to fix a Unity title? There's one coming out later this year that I've been looking forward to for a very long time, and I'm thinking of putting up a bounty for a fix. Are they possible but just very time consuming, as a general rule? In case anyone's wondering, it's Dreamfall Chapters.

As I noted the problem is having no header information in the shaders. I've fixed some VS stuff, and just managed to fix a set of shadows in a Pixel Shader - so if there is a consistent pattern to this it then it might doable, but it will be a slog, and does not mean that all PS fixes will be as tractable. An example of not having the headers causing trouble is that this fix requires the P11 element of the Projection Matrix to correctly account for the FOV (don't ask how I know this, I just do...) but I have no way knowing what constant this is in, or even if the shader has a constant to access it. So I guessed at the FOV and worked the value out, and it works. But that won't cater for FOV changes in game (if there are any, I don't know). I'll chip away at it, I am currently stuck on Splinter Cell Blacklist anyway...

I also took a look at it myself using the recent debugger and what I have uncovered were a ton of problems. Just to be clear, my experience level with using the Helixmod is to the extent of disabling shaders only. I have absolutely zero experience in fixing them. I managed to disable some VS/PS to make it a little more bearable on the eyes. The biggest problem I see is more so with Convergence and Distant objects. Since you move grid by grid, the objects go out of Sync the minute you move to the next grid and you also start getting massive ghosting and double effects and images. If I stay in a grid, adjust the Convergence it starts to look pretty dam good. Unfortunately the minute you move, the convergence has to be set again to make it playable. Although I don't have the experience the mike_ar69 in terms of fixes, I see his point on the time that would be needed to fix this mess. Anyway, it's too bad because Legend of Grimrock is fantastic in 3D with eqzitara's fix which makes this type of game a different experience. Very old school in a modern way..... If you don't owen Legend of Grimrock, get it for a same style of gameplay. You can find the fix here: http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/04/legend-of-grimrock.html

Sad to hear it's so hard to fix, I agree that legend of grimrock worked great on 3d, and i was really hoping for a fix on this one since I'm a big M&M fan :(

Aww, this is so disappointing I registered just to comment. I fired this game up and got to the Spider lair before I bothered to turn on 3D. It actually looks really good down there and the 3D effect would be amazing for this game if it worked right the only thing I noticed was the highlights on the attacking monster were out of wack. That was till I went back to town and everything fell apart from there. I know it's a niche thing but it's really sad developers don't support this technology very often. I was initially skeptical but 3D has revitalized my interest in gaming. Although kinda similar, Grimrock is in real time which in these games means you get awful (dance of death combat) which I find tedious. This one is truly turn based in combat (as it should be for this type of game) Was really looking forward to giving this a run through in 3D I guess now me hopes are dashed. I'll keep praying haha.

@mike_ar69 All the power to you bro. If you have anything that is even partially fixed, please post. I am leaning towards spending some time to learn how to fix shaders for 3D gaming. I am so dam busy with my business that I seem to never have enough hours in the day. I want to start allocating time to learn how to fix games. I can no longer play games in 2D, Question for you, I do have a background in programming and I also currently do programming for my companies website in ASP.net writing some javascript along with vb.net. Do you think someone with my basic programming background could pick up on shader programming? I just want to get a sense as to whether I can actually accomplish something before I begin investing my time. I'd like to give back more to this 3D community. I've used your fixes along with countless others and they are quite impressive, I really liked your Divine Divinity 2 - Dragon Knight Saga since this was a game I thought had no hope for a fix.
Hi, thanks. I will post something tomorrow, I am just jumping in and fixing the odd shader as I get chance, but my night is now done. The good news is that I think the game can be completely fixed since most of the fixes are Vertex Shader and they are all the same 'type' of haloing issue. Yes I think your background is perfectly suitable to picking this lot up. As long as you understand a bit about matrix and vector math as well (so you can understand the coordinate systems and transformations between them), you should be just fine. However, this is *not* a game to learn from since there is no header information. You are better off looking at other games from the helixblog site. Good luck!

Going to get into trouble for saying this. TBH, I'm alot more into this type of RPG [M+M X] over Grimrock. Grimrock is soo much more beautiful/artistic but man that game was is it a slog. Not to mention I really disliked lack of classes/abilities. I tried picking it up 5 times(ish) and always put down so fast. Luckily Grimrock 2 has talent trees... I hope they drop the puzzles/levers every 2 feet.
