How have I never seen this before? It looks awesome.
Basically a stealth game using Portal mechanics. It's gets around the locomotion issue by having it set in a dystopian world of budget cuts where everything has been shrunk to the minimum space necessary. You're always bumping into something, so there's no where for you to walk. Brilliant!

I have been spending a lot of time in VR in First Person. Yup, you get motion sick.
But if you spend enough time in VR it wears of (rather quickly in my case).
That being said, I think most of the locomotion problem is being caused by the fact that
for some reason developers stick to the old moving scheme. Which means: you walk where you look.
Which is REALLY, REALLY weird because in real life it is perfectly normal to walk straight ahead and look to the left, or right. As a matter of fact this is what people do ALL the time.
I guess it's the default behaviour of most game engines and almost nobody seems to care to change to "tank" movement.
As a test i tried to "walk where I look" in real life. It's not an easy thing to do and you sure look stupid doing it(!). But I did it for like 3 minutes and got pretty sick. Mind you: this was in REAL life not in a VR environment.
Tried to convince some devs on forums about it, but that's like trying to convince the average gamer that 3D gaming is really cool. I am sure we all know that's impossible :-).
I also asked for an option to increasee stereo separation for 3D VR, because in the Rift 3D is ok, but not as good as with 3D monitors. Then you get many, many replies from people saying that the 3D in the Rift is really great and natural whilest they have never seen proper 3D on a 3D monitor, but 3D on a monitor sucks. You might as well talk to a brick wall.
I think that's something that both 3D gaming and VR share: most of the time you are arguing with people that basicly know shit about it, but think/act like they do. I try not to care, but damned, it can be frustrating! :-)

I think this is true for pretty much any subject. Worse still, when you try to correct people with evidence, they become defensive and angry, and more planted in ignorance.
I consciously try to avoid coming across like one of these usual assholes by prefacing most of my statements with "I think", "I feel", "My understanding is", "Perhaps we ought to", "Maybe we can", etc.
I would say that nothing in this world is a sure thing, and making statements like it is, just shows immaturity in my opinion. Woops, there I go again! :D

You can definitely overcome simulator sickness. It just comes with very big asterisks IMO:
Somebody once posted a US military finding on simulator sickness. It had some interesting points. It found like 99 percent of people could eventually overcome it. Some had a much more difficult time and could take up to 10 hours for their body to adjust and accept this "reality". But within 10 hours total exposure, most could finally adapt and have their inner ear quit being panicked.
It was obviously recommended they be exposed to short bursts until they gradually built tolerance.
The biggest issue with their summary was this: It wasn't a generic fix. You build a resistance to that one specific simulator. If you started training in a different simulator (game in our case), you basically had your clock reset for the new sim.
That's a really big ask of your customer (from a developer stand point). VR is going to be niche for years. And a developer is going to segregate that further between those willing to "put their time in" and those who won't? I'll be honest, I flat out quit doing FPS (or more aptly, Invisible Person Mode) with my DK2. I had to psyche myself up to play that. Something like Budget Cuts is going to have a much easier time selling itself when everyone can play comfortably from minute zero (Plus walking is boring anyways. Seriously, if we could blink from spot to spot in real life, you wouldn't see a single person in a parking lot. They all be blinking their way around.)
And that's completely ignoring why the hardware companies like Oculus/Valve view FPS as poison. Once you get past the hardcore adopters, you might only get a single chance to sell the rest. If their first experience makes them feel terrible, they may never again put a headset on. They may stubbornly say VR makes them sick and they can't use it.

I remember when I picked 3D Vision and watched through the glasses the first time: It was at 15% separation and I was blown away;)
I then tried going to 30% (same first day) and my mind was "refusing" to merge the 2 image together and I felt very dizzy after 2 minutes.
I put it back to 15% and played like this for the next 1-2 weeks. Then I repeated the experiment with 30% depth and to my surprise I had zero issues! It felt like 3D Vision was re-invented all over again..
After 2 more weeks I cranked it up to 65% and later to 100% which is what I still use now. For me 100% is true 3D, anything less then 100% (or even more using the depth hack) is still 3D yet not real enough;)
I didn't get motion sickness per-say but it definitely feel nauseating initially...
I bet the same rules apply to VR...you need to train your mind to accept it;)
Also, for those who don't know Stereo 3D is also used in some medical practice as a "treatment": Some people purely can't see in depth (even in real-life). By exposing them to stereo 3D gradually the brain can be "thought" to take depth into account. It can also be used for eye sight correction (for people who have one "lazy" eye)...
Articles are on the internet, if somebody wants to read them, google is your friend:)

Ok I want to say something about motion sickness from biological point of view.
This is not caused by you perception it is the reaction of your body to sudden change in geographical position. Your body responds to environment the way that wasn`t explained scientific way and since discovery of fast travel some bodies experience anomaly because sudden change.
Your body gets impulse and reacts to it (not your eyes or brain).
That`s what happening when your 3D setup or VR helmet is lagging looks more like your brain reaction to anomaly in perception not the motion sickness.
Naming things or situations is terrible this century. I don`t know how many of you know what "Molesting" actually means and meant when was created. People can be awkwardly misinformed.

Doctors aren't sure exactly why video games cause motion sickness. They think it might have to do with mismatched messages about movement that the brain gets from the eyes and inner ears. Liquid in the semicircular canals of your inner ear allows you to sense if you're moving. But the brain can get confused if your inner ear senses that you're sitting still while your eyes see the action on the screen and tell the brain you're moving. That may leave you feeling sick, dizzy, or drowsy.

Some articles I read say it comes from a brain self defense mechanism. It considers you to be hallucinating due to poisoning and makes you want to barf.

Brilliant!

Some articles I read say it comes from a brain self defense mechanism. It considers you to be hallucinating due to poisoning and makes you want to barf.
