Gosh sorry about your purchase ( great kit though ) its the software not hardware issues

Must admit I'm less incline to upgrade in future as quality of software really causes more frustration than it's worth, going to mainly stick with few good in depth titles
That have no issues etc

I have BF3 with newest patch, using a gtx 580 and ASUS 24 inch 3d monitor. The shadows and light in the game seem really off as do the clouds in Caspian multiplayer if I bring depth beyond 1%. What is going on? is this normal for this game because other than DEAD SPACE or CRYSIS and Warhead I have not seen such an unplayable experience.

I don't think this is normal for most users who have provided feedback. Even the hacked version before official DICE 3D support did not exhibit these kinds of problems in 3D. Do you mind snapping a 3D picture of the problem? Hit Alt-F1 in-game and there will be a JPS picture saved to %:\\Users\%\Documents\NVStereoscopic3D.IMG

Then you can attach and upload the picture here.

New patch tomorrow from dice, hope it includes some optimisations

I think it's free? If its not I'm not buying anything untill I know it's running ok, can't play for long on such a low resolution, takes alot of the enjoyment away )-:

The patch was only server-side, the client update for this release came a week or so ago.

I can also definitely confirm that there are situations where the 3D is taking well over a 50% performance hit (23-25 fps in 3D, then to a pinned-at-80 fps in 2D).

Got the expansion

Wake island seems an easier map to run so sticking with that for now,

Suppose it's just a matter of sitting awaiting nvidia drivers & maybe further optimisations from dice

P.s wake island in bf3 is totally phoniminal

Final conclusion that I'm still drawing from this is that there is a fundamental limit to FB2's rendering capabilities (not just in 3D as I thought before) - and this, to me at least, is a problem -- that it is impossible to run this game at its own max settings at a solid 60fps (and sometimes forced as low as the high-teens) when hardware is not a limiting factor (although I will say that it is impressive that rendering in 3D takes exactly half of the total rendering budget). To me, that's like saying you can buy a Ferrari but you can never drive it faster than 40mph. It's almost false advertising.

Just to be sure, is there anyone that can play BF3 at Ultra settings and be locked at a solid 60fps?
At OCForums, we were testing different GPU configurations against one another. My system managed 91 FPS minimum and 146 FPS average. HOWEVER! This was in the 1st single player level.

I've also monitored a 30 minute session with 32 players on Caspian boarder and my FPS never dropped below 60.

I'm running a 2600K @ 5.1GHz and 3-way SLI GTX 580 @ 900/2200MHz
That was all done in 2D at 1920x1080 Ultra preset (100% nVidia control panel defaults).

I normally run @ 2560x1600 and occasionally my framerates drop into the 40s & 50s, but normally stay about 90-100FPS. But I have to drop to AAx2 or I run out of vMEM /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I think the question was posed about Who can get 60 fps solid throughout in 3D. Your numbers are 2D, correct?

In 2D, I can run the Ultra preset at 1824x1026 (my DLP compensated overscan resolution) and never dip below 60 fps with around 60% GPU utilization on x2 GTX 590's QUAD SLI, w/ vsync locked. My findings are all multiplayer as that seems to be the most difficult to run than single player.

However in 3D this is a different story, in Ultra I will range anywhere from 20-40 fps, more the former fps as the map gets blown up and destroyed.

The only way I can get a 60 solid fps in 3D throughout is in Low, but this won't hold on all maps. Medium somewhere between 40-60 in 3D.

First time I've said this, and hopefully the last. This game is far, far better in 2D than it is in 3D (purely because of the performance issues). What a travesty that this is a 3D Vision Ready Title too. /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' /> /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hey for you guys having performance problems with high-end rigs, can you try this setting real quick?
WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0
It sounds like it disables deferred computer shader code path and frees up additional cpu/gpu resources in the process. I do not know what this breaks in the process; I think the only DX11 compute shader feature in BF3 is HBAO which I already have disabled so be prepared for this to no longer work if you disable this. But when I was playing with it, disabling this yielded 5-10FPS increase in 3D Vision which is significant since it brought FPS up from a 40FPS plateau up to 45-50FPS. Also, when viewing the in-game performance overlay, disabling this path relatively doubled the GPU utilization bar (Afterburner % stayed about the same).

Worth a shot, lmk how it works for you guys.

I also messed with some other settings and they had negligible impact on FPS and GPU utilization, but the setting above makes it really close to 60FPS at still mostly Ultra, some High settings.

Well done!

Gave me slighter better performance, couldn't work out how it worked ......draw distance??

Anyway can play at 4090x720 with post on med so looks much better, solid fps with only minor hit every now & again.

I also turned off my hyper threading (in mobo bios ) which helped a bit also.

Wake island seems to be the least demanding so Im pretty much one to this one map but it's one of my favs (from bf2) so it will keep me going

Gosh a few more nice finds like your "WorldRender...." tip & we're there

Thanks again

New drivers should be out before the holidays found this :

On the official Nvidia forum, Mr. Guzman has replied to some users' questions related to certain driver issues and promised new driver release before the end of the year.
(Since there have been errors reported with the GTX 590 cards and the current drivers, users were asking about the R290 WHQL release.)

TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) issues are said to be solved in the imminent December release, even though not all the problems will be eliminated in this release. Manuel Guzman declared that the January release will most likely address all the reported TDR troubles in end user cards.

At the same time, the EDID DMT timings of some monitors such as the Dell U2410 will receive fixes in the new driver so the newest gaming titles like Battlefield 3 or Crysis 2 will run smoothly. Stay tuned for more, as we'll post the new Nvidia drivers as soon as they surface.
