RE5 - No convergence...

Here is the response I received.

Hi Phillip,

Thanks for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.

The 3D convergence setting for RE5 isn't user defined right now. It's controlled by the game developer. NVIDIA is working with them to allow this to be user defined in the future.

Here is my response to that.
If I understand correctly, you are saying that you (as a company) allow the developer to decide whether they want the settings to be user defined? I don't understand how Capcom could affect your 3d vision drivers unless there was a hook for such things. Was it built into the drivers to allow the developers to decide which settings can be user defined? Are there any plans to change that policy if so? I imagine you understand how PC gamers are. We game on PC because we are control freaks. So when we lose the ability to define our play experience to our preferences we tend to get angry.

I have a couple of more questions about 3d vision if that is okay.

1) Will it be possible to exceed the normal 100% depth in the future via registry settings? (I like to play at 130% personally)
2) When (if we ever will) can we expect to start creating our own 3d vision profiles like with SLI?
3) Is there a more relevant person I can contact to address 3d vision problems? Someone that might be able to pass on information and complaints to the 3d vision driver team perhaps? I don't want to waste the time of tech support whenever there is an issue with 3dv.
Here is the response I received.

I just wanted to mention that even though there are a couple of issues with RE5, it is one of the prettiest games I have ever seen on the PC in 3d. I am really enjoying it.
Hello Phillip,

- NVIDIA allows convergence to be application controlled.

- Its possible for us make a request for enhancement to extend the range.

- There are no public plans for user defined 3D Vision Profiles.

- You can address all 3D Vision problems here via NVIDIA Customer Care.

This game is crap! I have a Samsung DLP and this game is unplayable on it. I really had high hopes to try out a 3d Vidion ready game, but this one sucks. I see three images of everything. Maybe this is what is considered ghosting, I don't know. I can see the main image, but there are two ghostlike images, one to the left and one to the right. The worst part is that I can't change the convergence to fix it. I don't know if there is any popout because I just can't play it. Honestly it's better in 2d. Way to drop the ball Capcom.

I disagree on every single point, but then again, I don't have a DLP either.

In any case, it sounds like nV is working with them to try and add convergence control.

I suppose it bugs some people more than others. I've never really been bugged by ghosting or anything though (after learning to automatically ignore it). It used to be a lot worse on the old CRTs that I used for 3d stereo. It would be nice though if the top of the monitor wasn't worse than the rest of it. That is the only part that is difficult for me to ignore, but only if I notice it purposely instead of playing the game.

Well, at least you have Batman (assuming you bought it) and its convergence settings while nV works crap out with Capcom as it sounds like they are trying to do.

Also, be sure to let Capcom and nV know how you feel. You won't get anything done by complaining here really. If everyone chips in and tells them what we want, we might just get it.

The problem is, I get it all over the screen, not just in 10/15/20% of it.

It started out perfect... now it's awful. Even the 3d vision test, I get the middle option (2 shapes merging).

It does, but how does it work, then stop working?? It makes no sense.

I'm re-installing Windows (I'm using Windows 7 RTM x64). I'm going to try Vista x86 and see how we go.

I work for a retailer, been selling these by the truck load! Hopefully I can find the issue so I can help my customers, NVIDIA won't help us tho! I'm the one spending 10's of hours on it!

I'm glad you have been selling a lot. Hopefully it will become more popular and hit that critical mass that it needs to be permanent in PC gaming and get the support it deserves.

I think if your setup continues to do that, you should totally exchange it. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

What is reduced blank mode and how do I enable it? I don't see any mention of it under custom resolutions. Anyway the game doesn't run at the same resolution as my desktop. I run at 1080p for games and 1768x992 for my desktop. I'd like to try out everything I can. I thought my poblem was with the Samsung DLP because a lot of other people were saying certain games worked great for them, but not for me. Bioshock for example works very well according to some poster here, but it has too much ghosting for me to play. For me RE5 is on the same level as Dead Space and Bioshock. The ghosting is just too distracting to ignore.
