Articles about sitting while playing htc vive. http://www.roadtovr.com/htc-shows-vive-pre-working-great-for-seated-vr-at-ces/ ------------ Is there an actual list of games that will be available on day one of release? People are listing like Half-Life 2, Doom 3 BFG, Alien Isolation. The only one thats maybe is half life 2. The rest have old dk code and are very unlikely to be updated.

Hmm...from that list NOTHING really interests me nor do I see any big games on the list... (Future OR Past)... I've read quite a few articles and I still can't find if any of the VR software will feature something equivalent to "3D Vision Automatic" (The intrinsic logic and driver that attempts to Stereorize a game/app). Having special programmed applications developed for VR is awesome sure! But, what the ability to get the VR working with any other Application (more or less, like 3D Vision Automatic does) ? Anyone has any info on this?

Has anyone had a chance to look at Oculus cv1 sdk to see if it is very compatible with 3Dmigoto (see http://www.roadtovr.com/oculus-sdk-v0-6-0-0-now-paves-way-rift-cv1/, for example)? Unfortunately, I do not know enough to comment... Note that Vive sdk also exists, for comparison (see https://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/opensense-sdk/htc-vive-steamvr-sdk).

One game missing from that list is The Vanishing of Ethan Carter: http://www.roadtovr.com/the-vanishing-of-ethan-carter-vr-support-removed-in-patch-developer-teases-future-vr-dlc/ As to getting VR to work with older software, there's of course http://www.vorpx.com/ Perhaps the resolution of the first commercial VR HMD:s will be too low, but once resolution doubles (or so) in the future I see no reason why one couldn't experience 3d vision content on a virtual 2d surface projector or virtual wrap around screen. Going inside a virtual space to look at a virtual screen is of course pretty zany, but when you think about it, it totally makes sense =-) No reason why it cannot be wrapped around the user as well. Seen this way, future HMD:s (and perhaps present ones as well) are the best 3d vision screens imaginable.

The two lighthouses are just so they can cover an entire room without any occlusion. As I said before, assuming the Vive actually does have a bit more screen door effect than Rift, it'll be really interesting to see these systems in a non-demo environment. A game like Elite was already an issue with text on the DK2. It'd be interesting to see text comparisons between the two units. Because I heavily suspect more SDE = greater text clarity. These optics aren't magic. It's coming at a cost.

Guys, from the look of links and quotes that D-Man11 posted, nVidia is going to support 3D Vision natively on HMDs. In fact, they already have beta drivers out. Of course, in FPS, for example, the aim will be tied to the head tracking, for games not supportded by VR natively, but we can always disconnect the tracker. If nVidia supports this properly (and that's a big if), then 3D Vision has a bright future in its reincarnated and arguably evolved form: VR. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed...

Nah. Unfortunately, that was from PR when the 970/980s were released. We've discussed this before, but most of that info has been scrubbed from their sites. Just a little evidence remains. It's been ditched for things like multi-res shading and those type of priorities. Oculus had a big showing just after that was unveiled and they flat out dismissed it even then. Saying how they disagreed with their partner (Nvidia) on this subject. Apparently Nvidia finally came out around to how it was flawed. Interestingly, though, there was a recent interview with Epic's Tim Sweeney: http://www.roadtovr.com/epic-games-founder-tim-sweeney-talks-three-major-modes-vr-gameplay/ It talks about how they've experimented with three different VR methods. The one they've never demo'ed is the HMD simulating a killer 270 degree monitor. This is kind what we're talking about. If you could also make the screen be 3D.

Hmm, I don't understand how it could be flawed. The old nVidia 3D driver had dual monitor output support which worked well. It was used by dual passive projector people. This is identical to what the rift needs, except for an additional warping layer which is easy. Maybe it was impossible when Oculus was using a single screen split into 2 halves as in DK2. Now that they are using 2 separate screens in CV1, it should be a non-issue. Any idea why it was abandoned?

I only see a couple of titles that have or might have future support at this time that I would be interested in playing. If someone remade a game like Ultima Underworld for this then I would be all over it.

As for Oculus, I don't think they liked the idea of how much latency there would be. They never really said. I can't remember what the major event was (that happened a couple days later), it might have been an Oculus Connect. There was just a lot of excitement and I think it was actually a Carmack interview that got real awkward when the subject was brought up. He searched for a polite answer and just said they didn't agree with Nvidia on this idea.

I bet that's pretty much exactly how it went. I remember seeing a video interview with Palmer Luckey talking about VR and Nvidia. He was on about SLI adding latency and didn't seem too keen on Nvidia's 3D vision. I think they've done the right thing not letting Nvidia lock it down like China's Internet. They know they'll end up dropping support as soon as the Holocene comes out! All Nvidia are bothered about these days are AI and car dashboards. If they kept 3D vision alive through support and fixing games it would have been an awesome idea. Nvidia are reaping what they sow. It's going to take a lot to gain confidence and loyalty from their customers and from developers. I just hope the new AMD cards can keep up with pascal if not beat them this year. There are a lot of games coming. Can't wait to see what Dice do after they've made the frostbite engine VR native. It's going to be a good year for gaming!
