New to 3D. Is it possible on this TV?
We're probably more likely to think of our games when we see fluid motion, not soap operas. For us, this "soap opera effect" should be renamed to something more positive, like the "Crysis effect" :)
Sounds good to me! I would agree that what you said about soap opera production values has something to do with the "soap opera effect," but I think it's usually used by people when they simply aren't comfortable with the look high frame rates (also I think the kind of person who would complain about the effect isn't the kind of person who would actually have watched many soap operas). If it's a movie for example, they're not getting the 24fps look they associate with movies, and instead see motion that they associate with live video, which turns an objectively a positive thing (the look of high frame rates) into a negative experience. Until you watch it more and those associations break down and you're left with the simple goodness of 60fps (or 120fps).

True. Maybe some people feel that the 24fps is part of the filmic experience, just like some people like fiml grain (which is technically a flaw, yet many people see it as a nice thing). I guess my point is that people like us who play games at high framerates every day are hardly the sort of people to see 30fps live video and say "yuk - too fluid!". We're more likely to say "yuk - too choppy". I think the last time I went to the cinema was to see the Hobbit. The choppy framerate almost totally ruined it for me - I found it uncomfortable and lame (I think it was the regular 24fps version).

I think the smoothed frame high hz feature is terrible, it feels like you are watching something in fast forward but normal speed, a bit like when you can do picture search on a movie at 1.2 the normal speed, plus artefacts can turn up on busy/fast scenes as it tries to fill in the blanks.

Yeah 24fps isn't a big deal to me watching movies until they pan the camera, then I think my DVD is skipping or something... It's so annoying.
