Help with driver, config for both video card and 3D Vision
Hi all,

My first post here (yay!). I'm the new proud owner of GTX 470 that I have been using with NVidia 3D Vision. I've been trying to game with it and at resolution 1920x1080 but I cant seem to find a great performance out of these 3D kit. Was wondering if it is a driver issue. Could you tell me which driver version that you are using?

The games I have in mind right now is Just Cause 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2. For some reason, I got them to run fine without any slowdowns, but last night it was somehow performing really poorly (below 20fps in BfBC2 with no changes in setting). Any idea or suggestion about the setting? Here are my setting for both games:

Resolution all in 1920x1080!

JC2:
AA : OFF
AF: 8x
Hi Res Shadow: OFF
Shadow quality: Medium
Motion blur: OFF
CUDA Water: ON (I cant live without it hehe, water looks sooo nice with it on)
Specular lighting: ON
Bokeh: OFF
VSync: OFF
Everything else: Very High
--> This was quite alright in terms of performance. Any suggestions on how to increase performance in 3D without sacrificing much quality?

BFBC2:
Motion blur: OFF
AA: 1xMSAA/OFF
AF: 8x
HBAO: ON
VSync: OFF
Everything else: HIGH
--> Getting awesome performance when I started, but for some reason it decreases over time with no changes to the setting. This is with the 3D enabled.

Splinter Cell: Conviction:
Everything on VERY HIGH
no AA
AF is set to highest
--> With/without 3D: Played fine for first 5 minutes, screaming fps, suddenly afterwards it dips below 10, slideshowing all over the place. Only way to rectify this is to restart the whole game. Also getting a message "GTX 470 is not supported" upon starting the game. Any ideas?

Pretty much I need help with little bit of everything. Which driver (or beta if it increases performance) that you guys use for both 3D Vision and the GTX 470. I got the EVGA Superclocked version, if its any help.

Side question: Is there a way to save/load configuration with the unique convergence setting that I have for different games? It seems that I have to spend extra 5 minutes to adjust the convergence everytime I play its turning into a bit of a hassle.

Thank you for your help! :)

The message "GTX 470 is not supported" is normal, when the game was released ,it was not tested on these cards, but it runs good on all 400 cards.
How many rams do you got on you motherboard ?
DDR2 / DDR3 ? ,processor speed ?

Need a little more info here.

BTW I use the 197.41 drivers

Well, thats the thing. It ran fine for the first 5 minutes, then it slideshowing all over the place. I have 6 GB RAM running on i7 920 and Windows 7 64-bit. I suppose the game is not that demanding considering I can run BfBC2 and JC2 fine actually.

Same version that I'm using as far as the driver. Wonder whats the best setting for all those games with 3D on that wont sacrifice quality as much and I know I'm running it on 1080p, so it will be a bit hard. Are you using the 3D Vision?

Yes ,I'm using 3d vision...

But with everything on high,my framerate is an average of about 20 fps with Splintercel,it runs much slower then battlefield !

That is quite old. See, most of the times I even not use the 3d vision and yet the same symptoms keeps happening.
As for BfBC2, yes I'm pretty sure this runs fine. Do you have BFBC2 running with 3D Vision too? Whats your setting like?

Yes,I run 3dvision too, with bfbc2
I have every video setting on and at the highest settings...possible
Runs very smooth (have to check the fps some time...)..let you know.

Are you running any diagnostic programs or something like rivatuner ?

Well, crap. For one, I'm running 1920x1080 instead of 1680x1050. That makes a LOT of difference apparently in 3D. Secondly, I turned AA all the way down to no AA (I tried at 8xMSAA but didnt really see much difference0 and it was still a bit stuttering. I guess there's no motion blur so no worry about that.

Let me give it another try and post back here. Thanks for the info.

Did you play the other games?

OK, it seems the performance has gone back up a notch after I restarted the computer and defrag the harddrive. I tried just restarting the computer too yesterday but it didnt help. Must have been the defrag then.

Conviction is still slideshowing after 5 minutes, making it unplayable. JC2, L4D2, and BFBC2 noiw performs much, much better.

I don't know how I can help you from here,..just try everything possible...
Most of the time, the answer is just around the corner, you only need to find it !
