Monitors w built-in IR emitter - Linux compatibility?
Some new monitors are coming out with the 3D Vision IR emitter built-in; the Acer HN274H and GN245HQ are examples. These are both listed on the nVidia 3D Vision compatible equipment page.

Are they supported on Linux?

With monitors requiring the external nVidia IR emitter, under Linux the emitter has to get its sync from a Quadro mini-DIN stereo connector because the driver does not support sync over the USB signal. Now having the emitte rbuilt into the monitor is a whole new deal. I would like to see a statement from nVidia regarding Linux support.

Thanks.

If you could output an HDMI 1.4a 3D signal under Linux, then it should work. Otherwise, I am not sure. The monitor itself is the one that keeps sync, at least with the Acer HN274H. So all you have to do is have it go into 3D mode and I think thats it. However I don't know how you would get it to do that, since its all automatic.

I as well would appreciate some clarification on this. Do the NVIDIA linux drivers support monitors with built in IR emitters or does one still have to use the 3 pin din connection to the card. If having to maintain usage of the emitter, will I be able to use, say, the new ASUS 27" 3D monitor on my linux system with its' 3D capabilities. Only thing that is a pain, is these montitors do not come as a montior only, it's a bundle with glasses and emitter which raises the price. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Note, my current setup is with the gen 1 3D glasses and the viewsonic 23" 3D monitor - however, I would like to get a 27" monitor and the gen 2 glasses.
