And I am waiting on my Stem System too.. sadly pushed back until October

All rift demos discourage using the configuration utility as well, so I've never had to worry about that thing (it sure looks bad though). Drift exists but is usually mitigated by having a recalibrate button you push every once in a while.

I'm not surprised the survey shows 100% men, given 2 years participating in these forums and 6 years participating in technology forums overall. Why is that? One quick idea, I would suggest evolution. Men were the hunters, and women the gatherers. Men would have evolved to rely on and appreciate stereoscopic 3D vision more than women, as it helped them catch those tricky and juicy moving targets. Therefore, men enjoy stereoscopic 3D entertainment much more than women today. On the other hand, it's not like women can't be wow'ed by 3D. Perhaps this is just the result of Nvidia 3D Vision being an extreme niche of gaming, in which women are a minority to being with? In which case this poll isn't statistically significant in regard to interest in 3D in men vs women.

In my experience, women tend to be a minority when it comes to the "hardcore" gaming audience. 3d users are at the extreme end of that scale. It's a shame gaming culture isn't more inclusive of women (both in terms of the games themselves, and the people who play them), but that's another discussion. I don't think it's physiological at all, my girlfriend seems to enjoy the 3d effect when we game together.

I too doubt it's anything physiological. Women spend 100% of their time in a three dimensional universe, so I think it's a bit crazy to say that they would appreciate it much less than us. The vast majority of hardcore audiophiles and hardcore petrolheads are men too - does that mean that women don't appreciate sound or movement either? I think it comes down to the particularities of high-end PC gaming, which is quintessentially male in so many ways: the violent videogames, the tech, the tinkering, the problem-solving, the measuring, striving for perfect fidelity. It's all stuff that guys tend to enjoy, and I think we're much more likely to sink the necessary time, money and effort into something like this. The average female gamer is probably more interested in getting on with it and just playing the game. It reminds me of that saying: men buy albums to complete their collection; women buy albums to listen to the music. That said, I am surprised that there are NO women in the survey yet (67 out of 67 males at last count). Where are you, sisters?!

Just a thought: How many women (percentage) plays all those silly phonegames through facebook? I get invites to these from time to time but i'm kinda stubborn and let it be. Everything that's forced upon me induces strong antifeelings, enough to let it be. Maybe it's not a wonder why the industry is focusing on these stupid "smart"-phones with forced upon ads etc.

It was just something I noticed and thought "Huh, well that's pretty unfortunate!". I still remember the first time showing 3D vision to my girlfriend with Rayman Origins, she actually audibly announced "WOW!" and excitedly played through a level in complete wonderment the whole time. It's probably just going down a scale through order of magnitude. There are more men who play console/PC based games than women. On top of that, there are way more men who care enough about PC's to get into the higher end gaming market. On top of that, there are even higher concentrations of men who do all of the above, AND are also into exploring the cool outside niches that enhance gaming, and finally of those who DO finally choose a niche, the odds of 3D vision being the niche men choose as opposed to women seems really damn high.

Hey, how about we don't judge people for playing the kinds of games they enjoy? That's probably one of the things that puts women off the kinds of games we like. If anything, those "silly phonegames" provide a gentle introduction to the world of gaming, and can act as a path to the more involved stuff.
This is one of the craziest things I've ever read bud lol.
I think it's plausible, though as I implied in my next paragraph it's probably not true. There are legitimate biological differences between men and women though. Here's a short one about vision: http://www.livescience.com/22894-men-and-women-see-things-differently.html It's not just gaming. I've noticed it's the same on AVS Forum, which covers all kinds of audio and video technologies. We can say things like men buy albums to complete their collection and women buy albums to listen to, but that describes the situation, not the underlying reason for why that is. It's either cultural or biological. It's not random. The scientist in me is curious. I don't mean to judge, it's not like women should like what men like and/or vice versa. It feels a little lonely with 0% women though.

Some women are great PC gamers, most of my ex's played various games on PC. The girl who used to live next door to me played Dragon Age 2 to death, multiple times, and made sure her character slept with as many men and women as possible, whilst I was playing through the Mass Effect games making sure my character stayed faithful to Tali lol. I met my current girlfriend in my guild whilst me and the neighbours were playing Rift, she purchased a pretty decent gaming PC almost a year ago and loves Star Citizen dogfighting, WoW, Diablo 3, playing stuff on my 3D kit and watching 3D films. We also played through Trine 2 co-op, mostly laughing at her falling off everything in sight and both getting distracted by all the shiny stuff :-) I got her a new headset for her birthday and she insisted on having one with 5.1 audio. This also means she doesn't give me odd looks when I tell her I spent my annual bonus on an Astro A40 headset, the Oculus Rift DK2, Warthog C-10 HOTAS, Saitek flight pedals and also backed Star Citizen for £1k over 18 months... The main difference with women gamers is they usually prefer games involving teamwork, problem solving or creating stuff rather than full on combat, violence and destruction. In Star Citizen I'm really looking forward to the combat, my girlfriend is more interested in multi-crew ships and exploration and trading, so I think together we will make an awesome team - as long as she doesn't get all jealous and try to rip the Rift off my face! Before my current job I worked 3 years in Frank Harvey HiFi in Coventry UK, its an awesome medieval building, but burning hot in summer and freezing in the winter. That was truly a male dominated market. A few of the regular customers would come in with their wives/girlfriends and they would both be really interested, but most of the women came just because they were in charge of what colour the speakers and stands had to be. So many times I heard "you cant have that one, it doesn't match the curtains"...."I don't give a fuck if its blue with pink spots, it sounds the best, I'm having that one". Oddly the women won most of those arguments.
