Please Vote on which games to play first
  1 / 4
Since we were on the topic of the best games in 3D, I wanted to share a web page I developed that will let us capture these for long term use. Never quite got it finished before, but got motivated to get something useful. Why now? Steam sale! Winter sale is coming the 19th, and I need your help to decide what we should all buy, even with ruthlessly padded Steam accounts already. The question I'd like to answer is for new 3D users and myself alike: What game should I play first? Then which one next? This is a different question than Lohan's thread, so rather than co-opt his thread, I thought a new one was in order. I made a voting mechanism using a web page and a mysql database, so that we can sort and keep track of the most favored games. To use it, go to http://lists.bo3b.net/s3d/index.php, and you will see all the current candidates. To Vote, you go to "Vote for your top games". Add votes to each game you personally think are the best. This isn't one vote, or even 10, I set it up for 100 votes. You can put all 100 in a single game if you like, or 25 in one, and distribute the rest, or whatever you personally feel is right. When you hit Submit it will resort the list with your votes, so a good way to start is to give a couple of votes to games you know are great, and skip ones you've never played. Then those will be sorted higher, and you can arrange your priority order this way. You can also add new games to the list by scrolling to the bottom. Add notes to describe needed fixes, or why you think it's so good. The goal is that it should be fun to use, and we also get a community opinion on what games really should not be missed, and in what order.

This is a different question than Lohan's thread, so rather than co-opt his thread, I thought a new one was in order.

Current summary of votes (2/16/14): I'm planning to make something that will automate a picture a like this, but couldn't get it worked out just yet. I'll update it periodically. I seeded the database with ten of my favorites games, but did not vote yet. Who wants to be the lucky first voter? I set it up to use a username as the way to track votes, probably easiest to use your forum name, but you can use anything there. It saves your name in a cookie, so you only have to enter it once, or if you use a different device. If you have any suggestions or problems with the web page, please let me know. This is a work-in-progress, but I really wanted it to be live before the Steam Sale. The web page is normal cgi, no javascript, which is why you have to hit submit each time, instead of having it auto-update as you enter votes. If you think the idea is good or bad, I'm interested in that too. We can easily make different lists too, like a different DB for the biggest crimes against 3D. This started from an old thread of top picks: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/406386/3d-vision/lets-make-a-list-of-best-nvidia-games-in-3d-vision-33-/post/2860052/#2860052

I voted! Cool idea, I like having 100 votes to split to show how much I recommend the games.

Well, it won't help me, since I own every one of those games already. I'm sure I'll find a way to blow lots of dough at the xmas sale anyway :D Anyway, who doesn't like voting on a best of list? I'm off to vote now

This way you also get to represent games that don't get a lot of attention but that you personally think are terrific. For example, if there is one rare one that you think is a must play- give it your full 100 votes to push it up in the list.

I'm surprised Max Payne 3 wasn't on the list yet. I added it, and gave it all of my votes. Not that I didn't enjoy other games on the list- but it's the game I keep going back to, replaying a level here and there whenever I get a chance. I was thinking of saving some votes for Tomb Raider 2013, because that also has some of the best 3D I've seen so far-the sense of depth you get from the large open areas is just incredible- but it was already up there, and I wanted to push Max Payne to the top.

@tsaebeht The ironic thing is I've played every game listed [except Trackmania Canyon].. except I probably averaged around 20 mins playtime in each and only beat 10% of them.... I must have A.D.D. ---------------------- People may complain about lack of games in 3D namely because they haven't been active as long as some of us. But that link Bo3b posted makes me giggle cause thats a reminder of how it was 3 years ago.. wow those are some terrible lists. Might be just me since I pretty much know the compatibility of them all. Seeing Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 1/2, Fear 2, RE5[Convergence locked] in top 15 says alot. I like that old thread also because of how things looked pre-Helix. Post helix it's pretty clear we have an all new list. I have to confess that I haven't played any of the Laura Croft games, and most definitely must have missed out. And, it's a real surprise to me that I somehow completely missed Brothers. Haven't even heard of it before now, and clearly I must pick this up. Really appreciate the votes and the comments.

Tomb Raider 2013 was my first (and still only) game in the series, and it was great. Since it's a reboot, there's nothing to worry about if you haven't played any of the previous games. Overall I enjoyed it more than Brothers, but I gave Brothers 50 of my votes because it's a smaller game that's easy to miss. Set aside about 3 hours to play it in one sitting, use a controller (even if you prefer mouse & keyboard), and the HeliX/Eqzitara mod.

I'm surprised no one put Skyrim since some people practically live in it.[Not being mean, just pointing out that some people who love it may of just forgotten] I loved 2013 but I tried playing Underworld like 3-4 times and just get bored fast. I wouldn't worry about missing it. I mainly keep trying because of 3dvisionblog reminding me to try [he always uses it for testing]. I dunno, like it doesnt have any real issues besides turning off reflections... but it's just plain. Its not like 2013, its got no imagination/detail. I think it was just so important finding a game with minimal issues back then that increased popularity. -------------------------- Im getting an error though, I can't spend my last 5 points on mirror's edge. Forgot about Portal 2 (reset when I added games). Knew I had too many points and I was missing something.

Awesome lists, and awesome voting. The voting list has already pointed out 5 games to put on my wishlist for Steam Sale. Thanks to all. Question: I see The Witcher 2 and Rayman Legends show up highly as something I've missed. Is it better to start with the first in the series Witcher 1 and Rayman Origins (or even further back)? I generally like to play in released order, but if there is not much tie in to older games or missed story, then the voting list would be more compelling to me. (For example, even though Arkham City rates higher than Arkham Asylum, I'll still want to play Asylum first, because of the story thread. Could skip to Origins though as a reboot/standalone.)
