3D 22" monitor user considering swapping to Projectors. --Projectors vs Monitors for 3D. -- Wh
I have been using my 22" viewsonic and loving 3d gaming. Thinking about projector sounds tempting, but I have some questions.
1 - Is 3d as good quality in projectors compared to traditional monitors? It probably doesn't look as crisp right?
2 - I recently rented out my 2500 sf house and moved to the beach. My current place is a small 2 bedroom house. Could I use projectors effectively in (maybe one for now in 3d but 3 total in surround 3d When the drivers come out) in a standard 10x10 room? Can I be about 6 or 8 feet from the projected image and have it look awesome? Or do I need a huge living room type setting?
3 - It seems from browsing here that projectors top off around 1200x1000 resolution or so. Does this look worse than games i'm playing at 1600x1200 as far as quality?
4 - What is the "Best" way to project . . . onto a wall or onto a nice screen?
5 - Overall, please share your thoughts on using 3d projectors vs monitors. Also, remember that I would consider going to nvidea surround 3d with 3 projected images at some point as well. Are there factors i'm not considering here?

1) you can only get 720p 3d projectors right now (1280x720), youre probably used to a lot higher

1) you can only get 720p 3d projectors right now (1280x720), youre probably used to a lot higher
I am kinda in the same boat. I have a friend that is thinking about getting a 3D TV like mine (Mitsubishi DLP) but I was telling him to get a projector instead, but he was saying he would rather have a TV as he thinks there would be less of a hassle involved. I could get $1000 for my TV for sure (it's been calibrated, which is probably why I'll end up keeping it), and then use that money to get a projector and a screen.
I am only considering it because people have said that with the checkerboard pattern, the TV can only do 720p and imitates 1080p, which is why small text is hard to read (HIGHLY noticeable in Dragon Age). From my understanding the projector will only display 720p but will either look the same or better than what I am used to now. The lower resolution is actually a plus to me, since even with a GTX 480 games struggle slightly in 3D (like Assassin's Creed 2 and Metro 2033).

Ok honestly man, thanks for number 2's answer...but the rest...doesn't quite cover much. Why take the time to post so that you can simply put, read the rest of the forum? I have read a ton of material, and find no thread that easily compares plusses and minuses of going from monitor to projector. IF the forums have material that is so easily found stating a comparison, please LINK HERE the easily found thread that answers my questions. I am simply an excited 3d user who really wants to understand what it will feel like swappiong to a projector.
OBVIOUSLY, as i said, 1280x720 is not equal to my 1600 monitor. I have heard that despite the lower ratio's, many folks who run with a projector swear by its' awesomeness and won't ever go back. They have also said (in the one or so posts i was able to find) that the large screen makes 3d look so much more immersive with its's size etc that it makes the lower resolution not even a factor. Is this the case?

Hi there, I have the 24 inch 3d monitor from acer , which is very nice in quality, then I decided to buy the acer h5360 , so like what your doing now I asked everybody and I searche every site to find an answer .After my readings I bought the H5360 and here is my opinion:
At first I was very impressed by the size of the projectors screen (120 inch). the quality is nice but not like the monitor.
-the PJ is producing so much heat that you will be sweating if you have a bad air condition or a small room.
-You will get bored from using the larg screen all the time specialy if you close all the lights.
-the colours on the projector is not natural (they are leaning towards whitish), you will feel the different if you play some games or watch movies after sometime compared to the monitor.
- Now I went back for my Acer 3d monitor, and Iam loving it.
- the only thing I miss in the pj is the size and level of emersion.
-My advise to you is , by a 50 inch or larger 3d tv like the panasonic plasma and enjoy the vibrant colouring and wait for the nvidia play tools which will be release soon hopfully. this what i am going to do in the near future.
Do not be disapointed by my review but . it is true.

A real pj setup consists of pj with carefully set brightness levels, calibrated colors, quality screen, light dampening, plus quality stereo audio with 4 subwoofers. Oh and novint falcon with a recliner.

What is DLP microdisplay. What is TN? I JUST bought a Viewsonic PJD6531 w, am having some issues hooking it up (see my other thread), and hope that I like it enough and don't have to return it to go back to monitors : )

1.- No. You lose some things, you get others. You lose higher resolutions than 720p and and it looks less crisp, as you say. However it's well worth it. I'm very picky and though t I couldn't ever play anything under 1080p and had been using fullhd tvs as monitors since they were available, however I don't miss it that much at all, and it's so much better to have 80 plus inches of image, there's no way I'll ever go back to gaming in other than a projector, or even watching movies, it's just a different league. Talking about 3d, projectors right now have a huge advantage over our monitors and tvs, and that's 0 ghosting, which is one of the most annoying problems of 3d. I suggest you check the h5360 threads in this forum, there's lots of posts talking about some of your doubts. I did, I bought it and it's one of the best purchases I ever did.
2.- I was surprised that it's fine to project in a wall, I used a wall for a month or so, it wasn't even white but rather cream color, until I bought and tupplur screen on ikea for 35 euro that works better. I have a reasonably big living room, still I have to place it really close or it would go for a ridiculosly big screen, you can get a 70-80'' screen in a very small room easily, besides in my case h5360 has a really useful zoom.
People talk about purchasing 50 inch 3d tvs, but you still get half the size of screen and 3 times the price of a 3d projector, and for me it's not worth it at all. Besides, I thought I read you can't go for 3d over 720p with a reasonable frame rate even with high end hdmi 1.4 3d tvs iirc.
One thing against projectors however, is the rainbow effect. When you move yout eyes very fast, you may see for a milisecond a rainbow effect where your eyes were. With time you get used to it and now I don't se it at all, but you may want to check if it really annoys you, some people simply can't see that effect at all but I did.

They have also said (in the one or so posts i was able to find) that the large screen makes 3d look so much more immersive with its's size etc that it makes the lower resolution not even a factor. Is this the case?
its not just the size, DLP microdisplay is superior technology to TN LCD panels, motion smoothness, screendoor , etcetrea

Do not be disapointed by my review but . it is true.

What is DLP microdisplay. What is TN? I JUST bought a Viewsonic PJD6531 w, am having some issues hooking it up (see my other thread), and hope that I like it enough and don't have to return it to go back to monitors : )

Thanks a ton guys ![/quote]
