Gears of War Ultimate Edition (Windows Store, don't buy it)
This just released on the Windows store exclusively, so I thought I'd make a thread about it to warn people.
As it's a Windows store exclusive, this will not be playable in 3D. Don't buy it with that expectation that it could be fixed. At this stage, there is no way to apply 3dmigoto or helixmod to a Windows store title, and they run in a borderless window only - so there's a good chance you won't even get 3D to kick in.
It's also worth noting that it has massive technical issues on AMD cards. nVidia is mostly ok from what I've read, but it does indicate a poorly ported game.
Avoid.

That sucks. It looks like almost all the exclusives from Xbox One are now coming to Win10. Quantum Break looks freaking awesome as well. On the one hand it's great to be getting some nice triple AAA games, on the other hand.....
I guess we got lucky with Tomb Raider also coming out on steam. I wonder if those Windows store games will eventually come out on Steam after something like an exclusive window?

Quantum Break was looking awesome, but there's been a lot of previews in the last day or two that are not positive.
I wouldn't bet on seeing more WS games coming to Steam, though it's not a major issue - the exclusives are only likely to be Microsoft published titles.
Pirateguybrush , Could you explain us please what is the issue with windows store that preventing to fix games?
The install directory is locked can not be access the folder will not allow you change permissions also the game runs like crap.
I will not purchase another Windows Store game also CM mode doesn't work since this is Direct x12.
Looks like another PC gaming blunder on Micro$oft's part. From what I have read you can't even get things like FRAPS working and their are SLI and v-sync issues. I have lived the past few years without an Xbox so I won't lose any sleep over not playing some of the good Xbox exclusives.
If they ever get the store fixed to the point that all these issues are resolved, I will consider buying a game from there.

Yeah I'd advise people to stay away from Windows 10 store games until MS decides to implement modding for the PC gaming community.
Windows 10 store as it stands is a closed platform similar to consoles.

Control Control Control, MS continually attempts to control customers and fail every time, yet they are persistant with their shit. Look at the fiasco with the XBone One console launch, always online......when will these ass hats stop....sheesh. In Microsofts demented perfect world, they would like everyone to only use their software and have a monthly paying subscription for that wonderful re-occurring revenue stream and then buy all their hardware products and love them all at the same time...idiots....modding infringes on their bottom line....always the attempt to wipe out competition.
Thanks for the warning Pirateguybrush and keeping us informed...

There might be some hope
"According to a Microsoft spokesman, there will be seven UWAs in the Windows Store in the near future. Several have already been released: the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft; Gears of War: Ultimate Edition; and Killer Instinct: Season 3. Quantum Break is dueApril 5, and Forza Motorsport 6: Apex and Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition are due sometime this spring.
But there’s a problem: UWAs aren’t the traditional Win32 apps that you’re used to, and Store apps like Rise can’t be modded. Spencer says they’re aware of the problem, and they’re working on it. Specifically, Spencer said customers have complained about the lack of support for multiple GPUs (which he said are now supported by UWAs); the lack of mods; and forcing developers to turn on Vsync, or vertical synchronization, which can limit frame rates. “We’ll fix this,” Spencer said."

Loved the tone of your rant, Fred and I agree with everything you wrote :)
Microsoft's behaviour is pretty much the definition of business insanity - trying to get away with the same control bullshit over and over again, while expecting different results.
I'm extra wary of their products and will avoid Win 10 for as long as possible.
Guybrush, thanks for taking one for the team, in case you've actually bought GoW.

lol...normally I prefer not to rant but could not help myself on this one...must of been triggered by the amount of snow I had shovel off my driveway this morning....lol
I am a huge fan of consumer options and modding is probably the best thing to happen to PC gaming. Thankfully a lot of games work with 3D fixes.

Microsoft talked about UWP (Universal Windows Platform) at GDC
(by Mark Tyson/Hexus) "Microsoft stressed that the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) has been devised to "make it easier for developers to make their games where their players want to play". Furthermore, with an eye on the industry, Microsoft said it was committed to making UWP the "greatest platform for game developers". It will continue to listen to feedback about the direction of UWP."
