Hi,
I was thinking of trying the nvidia 3d vision for 3d viewing/gaming in anaglyph red/cyan. But i am not sure if my system will support or not. I want to play games in anaglyph 3d(red/cyan), which does not require 3d monitor. So here are my Laptop specs-
Laptop Model- ASUS X550L
Core i3 processor
4 gb RAM
nvidia geforce 820m graphics card
Windows 8.1 64bit

The 820M is a very basic GPU and doesn't have very much gaming power.
You definitely couldn't play newer games in 3D, but you might be able to play older games.
But in order to play in 3D on an external monitor, your video output must be routed directly off of the Nvidia GPU.
Check out this tutorial and pay attention to the 4th pic down and tell us what you see in your PhysX tab.
Thanks for the link, but i don't have any external device to connect to the laptop, as i am not at home. Since anaglyph 3d is the most basic form, is there any other alternate way. And i don't really play very heavy games now, played crysis 3 few months back and it ran just fine in my laptop, but making it 3d might require much powerful machine.

Pretty sure the link was for if you wanted to play on an external monitor but I could be wrong, no experience with Discover/laptops.
Since 3D Vision Discover is free I guess it all comes down to if you can install 3D Vision and if there is a Stereoscopic 3D section in your Control Panel.

I do not own an external monitor/television. And i have read it in a blog that 3d vision discover work only upto win7. Mine is win 8.1.
There is a 3d vision folder inside the nvidia folder in C:\nvidia. But, that might require a 3d monitor with shutter glass. I tried iz3d but seems like it don't work on win 8.1

3D Vision Discover doesn't have any requirements beyond an nvidia GPU (and having some red/cyan glasses), so yes it should work. You may need to reinstall the nvidia drivers and make sure the 3D Vision component gets installed.

Ooops, I forgot the link, thnx TsaebehT.
3D Vision discover would require that the internal display is routed off of the Nvidia GPU AFAIK.
There is an Optimus setting that you can set, so that certain programs use the GPU that you choose, no idea if that might do the trick.
TriDef has free anaglyph I think, you might try it if you can't get Discover to work.

I am not sure if the folder inside the NVIDIA folder is the 3d vision discover(red/cyan) or the 3d vision(real 3d). After successful installation a message pops up saying - "The primary display adapter does no support 3d vision".
I did a fresh installation but that only gave more problems..Now Nvidia Network service, geforce experience service and physx are not getting installed, so i had to install them individually from within the folder....
Can anyone please tell me how to get nvidia 3d vision discover for my laptop.Or does it only work on desktops

The Stereoscopic drivers are the same for Discover, 3D Vision, Optimized for Nvidia GeForce and 3DTV Play. But instead of calling the "stereoscopic drivers", they call them 3D Vision. But it is the one you want for anaglyph/discover.
When you install the drivers are the 3D Vision drivers getting installed? Are they installed in your "Program Files(86)">Nvidia Corporation?
On W7 you could go start button > all programs > NVidia corporation and you could find an enable and disable 3D options.

yes, there is a 3d folder inside the nvidia corporation folder. As i mentioned earlier a message pops up after installation of 3d vision -"The primary display adapter does no support 3d vision". Is there a way to make nvidia my default/primary display driver.. There is no 3d option in nvidia control panel

I do not have W8.1 or a laptop, so you might want to open a support ticket. Just click on support at the top of the page.
I looked at nv_disp.inf portion of the setup files for 352.86 desktop drivers and the 820m isn't listed. The 840m is, as well a 730m If you can find out your device id you might be able to add it manually and get it to work. Then reinstall with the modified inf. (the gpus are listed at the bottom of the inf)
example....
NVIDIA_DEV.1341 = "NVIDIA GeForce 840M"
