H5360 + HDMI Repeater (and a curious problem)
Hi guys,

---some may say this isn't the relevant forum, but I can't think of anywhere else that Nvidia using H5360 owners regularly visit---

Dropping in again to pick yer brains since there seems to be a sizable H5360 owner community here.
--please bare with me, this is a long one!---

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with placing a HDMI repeater between the PC and the Projector, namely having EDID issues e.g the Nvidia Control panel would then detect the projector as a generic device, therefore disabling 3d vision. (just to avoid any confusion, I haven't used a repeater yet, and as far as I know I have no EDID issues, 3d vision is working fine!)

If you have used a repeater with success, I'd very much appreciate the specific model you've used.

My current scenario: Using a 10 meter (~32 feet) hdmi cable to connect the pc to the projector (have the devices so far apart because the 480 GTXs need their own little space to throw noisy tantrums behind the projector screen).

Ive started to notice "blue snow" when certain shades of black appear on screen, some call the effect "hdmi sparkle". A lot of googling suggests a repeater could clean the signal before it reaches the projector, thus removing the blue snow.

HOWEVER! I manage to get around this problem by turning the projector off, and switching between the DVI ports of the 2 cards and turning the projector back on to check if the snow disappears. Eventually (after many many switches and the two different DVI->HDMI adapters that came with the cards) the signal seems to "stabilize" and the blue snow temporarily goes away (temporarily being 4-5 hours, maybe even until I turn off the projector/computer). I think all the signs point to an inability to communicate properly due to the distance in the cable, so perhaps the hdmi handshake is only 100% successful a small fraction of the time.

At first I was convinced it was just a deficit in the cable as when I switched from 120hz on the desktop to 60hz, the sparkling/blue snow went away. Further experimenting led to me figuring out that if I changed the dvi adapter settings in the nvidia control panel to "Audio Disabled", 120hz would display flawlessly. Heres where it gets weird!

Once set to "Audio disabled" and I changed over to 60hz, the H5360 would do its little "signal processing" dance, and the box at the top would say "1920x720" at 60hz, when in fact it had been set to 1280x720, plus all the colors would be screwy and garbled!

For the past day the signal would drop intermittently, but that seems to have stopped for now, however I no longer have an option in the nvidia control panel to switch the adapter from "Audio Enabled" to "Audio Disabled", plus the native resolution for the H5360 is listed as "1920x1080" under the "Adjust Desktop Size and Position" tab. And when I do have "snow", its consistent across both 60hz and 120hz!

This is my second H5360 (the first's EDID died completely, sent it back to acer, they take 3 months to admit they've lost it .."Oh sir I can confirm for you that your projector is indeed under repair".. ya right, that worked the first 8 calls, not anymore!!) I hope to god my EDID isn't failing again, I'm trying to get powerstrip to tell me whether or not thats the case.

I even went so far as to change the layout of all the cabling in the room, thinking the subwoofer or cables crossing might be causing interference, but nope!

I've read on an a/v forum that it could be something as simple as a slightly dodgey power socket, so tomorrow once the snow returns I'll plug the projector into the Computers' UPS and perhaps that'll fix it. After multiple crappy cheap cables from ebay, I dropped €50 on this seemingly good quality hdmi cable so I'm pretty confident its not made from shoddy materials, hopefully its just a case of varying degrees of signal degradation.... but as was the point of this thread, Id be very interested to hear the perspective of any fellow H5360 owners (or anyone with some insight for that matter!)... What confuses me though is that the degradation isn't constant even though all the components remain the same...Thanks for reading guys!

Did some fidgeting with other devices, eventually came to the conclusion that

H5360 + Prolonged Use + 10Meter Cable = Heat disturbing the transmitted signal

So anybody know of any HDMI repeaters that are compatible with the H5360 (preserving the EDID info and enabling 3d vision)? :)

Thanks

Looks like im having a similar problem. I used my h5360 direct to my PC for a while now and now problems. Ive been using a 25 meter cable with a HDMI splitter. Has been working fine.... but today when trying to set up everything, no joy.

Please read below, Ive posted this up on AVFORUMS.COM.

Ive been setting up my living room with the following.

Panasonic TH-50PZ80 B
Acer 5360 PJ
Sony STR-DH810 AV Reciever
PC
PS3
360
Wii
Sky HD

I have laid everything out to check ive got everything working before I cable them all up and Im having a problem when trying to use the PJ with my HTPC to watch 3d blurays

Works fine if Im direct from PC to PJ. Been using it like that for a few weeks while I'd got everything ready...but.............

....if I put my PC through my reciever (Sony STRDH810), I cant play 3d blu rays using powerdvd 10 in 3D. Nvidia control panel is showing steroscopic is enabled, but Power dvd isnt giving me any options to use my DLP link glasses. I also believe the amp is upscaling the image and possible reducing the refresh rate..?

Ive also noticed that the PC is detecting the "SONYAVAMP" instead of "H5360" when connext thru the reciever.

Can anyone give me some pointers, or some suggestions to maybe get the DLP link working tru the amp.

Thanks in advance.../thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ive never had a problem before when direct PJ to PC so Im assuming its because ive everthing running for a few hours

Ill let it cool down and Ill let you know how I get on tomorrow.
