Pls shaderhackers asking for donations, consider using Patreon
1 / 2
I see that currently there are some shaderhackers asking for donations with PayPal, which is perfectly fine but I wish some of you guys used Patreon instead so that we can assign a monthly donation and forget about it.
It's convinient for those willing to donate since they don't have to send money every single time manually, per game and per shaderhacker, besides you don't hand your PayPal email address to someone you don't know, and it's useful for the shaderhackers since they get a monthly fee that makes fix planning more satisfying since they know they have a monthly income for their work. Also Patreon allows for private releases for their best contributors and late releases for the rest which may improve the amount of donations to get a fix early.
I support several project on Patreon and I love 3d gaming and would gladly donate to dhr and others for their work, I hope you guys consider this.
If any of the shaderhackers have a Patreon already please post it here so that we can all donate.

I fear Giving premium acces to any other than other shader hacker takes this to a completele wrong drirection.
Haven't we already seen enough "money buys acces, saddly your a poor boy" Things in this fucked up world.
Its all about the money nowanyways.
people who get better wages pay more tax, or should because they make more money, not because they have
Work more but just because some Jobs Are better paid. 90% cases they did not earn it, it just the way it is.

It would be "early access" imho, subscribers get the fix a few days before anyone else, besides it's a choice of every shaderhacker to do it or not.
The thing is fixes have become incredibly complex to create, long are gone the days for dx9 fixes that could be done in a day or two, and so I understand the lack of motivation from some of the shaderhackers to keep on going for goodwill alone. Either we support them or I think the 3d gaming scene will die.

I think it's best to make a separate thread specifically for that info instead of being a comment on a non related topic that many people would probably miss.

I'm usually pretty optimistic on this board and was eager to jump on board when DHR started releasing fix's and donated over 100USD last month but unfortunately it looks like it's too little to late.
After Helifax stating that he was going to be on hiatus due to a new job, that means that almost all the shader hackers are gone now :(
I'm still happy that we have what we have, and I'm grateful that we have a few new and up and comers like Master Otaku, and I'll gladly support DHR with his fix of Outlast 2 -but the days of getting fix's for big tripple AAA games looks like it's over :(
The shader hackers here were saints for what they did and it's crazy how much time they spent/wasted on fixing or trying to fix games. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for someone like Helifax to spend countless hours (sometimes hundreds) to fix games, and then not even being able to fix the game in the case of Mass Effect Andromeda.
Game fix's have become more and more complicated recently. With so many things like tile lighting, compute shaders, etc, etc, the time it takes to fix a game has pushed most shader hackers away, and I don't blame them one bit, as it's literally a full time job to keep fixing games!
Looks like I'm gonna stick mostly with 2D 4K gaming and hopefully be treated to the occasional 3D vision fix if available.
I'm mostly been getting my 3D kicks from VR now and that is the future of 3D gaming. Samsung and google have both announced super high res screens, and they will be here sooner then we ever thought.
I'm betting Nvidia will get back and release 3D vision 3.0 when enough VR headsets have been sold to make it profitable for them.

I never use Patreon, how they transfer the donations? to some bank account or paypal.
In the webpage don't say anything about that, only they charge 5% of the donations....and if they later transfer to Paypal, they also will take a %.
At least for me, using Paypal is better and works best with the GOAL mechanic...80% of the donation i receive Paypal don't charge anything, that mean the 100% of those donation are transfer to my paypal account.
Also here in my country there is a company that have a commercial agreement with Paypal, so i can transfer the Paypal donations direct to my bank account (using the tax rate of the day, they charge 1% with a max of USD10) and vice versa (not a single charge in this one). I need the local currency to buy in Steam, i can't pay in USD with my Credit Card for example (i suppose this is a steam policy). So i can also use the tax rate to increase a little bit those donations, when the tax rate benefits.
Donate using Paypal will take 5 minutes at most.

@Conan481
I think the difficulty of the fixes are almost the same. But now we have less active shaderhackers...so less fixes.
In my case i can't release more fixes or more often only because of the time...i don't have all the time for play/fix, i have a full day job, my wife (that hate when i play..jajaja) and 2 kids...also i have another hobby that i will never quit (I practice Mountain Bike, Crosscountry and Downhill...now i'm old..LOL - 38 years old -, so i'm leaving Downhill, to risky to my age). But i will still playing games and fixing it when i have the time....only thing can stop that, will be when 3D died at hardware level.

@DHR With all your activities (moutain bike...), i wonder where you find the time to release fixes, maybe you don't need to sleep, are you a mutant ? ^^

jajaja...NOP...i'm not a mutant.
But S3D gaming, is the only cause i return gaming, so i try to dedicate time to this....is really the most inmmersive and fun way to play games. I progress with one fix step by step, that's why for example take me some time to finish Outlast 2 and others games.

and actually few fix per year for great games is more than enough. i can play metro and stalker and lots of and lots of old games untill the end of times if needed. id rather play good old ones in 3d than new games in 2d no matter if it´s 4k. 8k or what ever the fuck K, it´s not 3d.
Hail to all ShaderHackers !

Well I am still here fixing games but I think for myself some games are nearly impossible to fix for my level of Knowledge..
I am unsure if it is just the game engine they use but I looked at The Division, while I was able to get it decent during the day Nighttime with the 2D lights from Headlights and such I was not able to fix..
Would have been nice to get in when everybody was here and teaching all these things maybe I could have learned more.. But as long as I have a 3D Vision system I will try and fix what I can..
I dont mind spending the time to fix them as I have nothing else to do with my time.. I see others accept donations not sure I will but see no problem if someone wants to..

Hey! I'm still here:)
I'm just busy currently with relocating from one city to another:) Takes time and lots of paper-work lol:))
Last fix I made was for The Surge (2 weeks ago?). Luckily we are in the summer period, when not a lot of high profile games are released ^_^
You didn't get rid of me just yet:)
