I'm pretty sure the text files that are being distributed aren't the original code but more of a shorthand version of it ... or even less and more just 'the settings' of the Shader, that is useless without HelixMod interpreting it. That said NVIDIA should/could be working on 'wrappers' for the community to use, and improving 3D Vision Automatic(Helix/Chiri both found ways to autocorrect things), instead of making fake 3D for specific games. Fake 3D should be a blanket tech, like Power 3D, that works like 3D Vision Automatic ... instead of them wasting precious time and money on tweaking it to work with only certain games. Games most of us won't even play that way, or would definitely rather have a way to fix them properly. They (are supposed to) know way more about 3D Vision and the general inner workings of their NVIDIA line up to help with an actual solution to our problem(s) but they'd rather focus on restricting things and something that's been done by Crytech, TriDef, and a few others, properly already.

He's saying it would be utterly devoid of benefit for all parties involved, and would in fact hurt the devs financially - it's a law no one would follow even if it does actually exist. It's very different from jailbreaking an iphone, because Apple actually has a vested interest in maintaining its closed ecosystem. A much more apt analogy is screenshots. Screenshots are also protected by copyright, as they are copies of the game's intellectual and artistic property. Yet every gaming magazine, blog, and review website publishes screenshots routinely without sparing a thought for copyright. So do Nvidia themselves. And then there's twitch.tv, and a thousand other examples. All of these things are technically illegal, but they continue because no one gives a flying f*** about this particular instance of copyright law...least of all the devs who own the copyright, since screenshots = free marketing. Same with shaders. If nvidia fixed a game for 3Dvision users, it would mean more customers for the game developers without any work on their part: a free lunch. Why on Earth would they spend time and money fighting that? The only feasible situation where a dev might stand in the way of nvidia altering shaders would be a game with strong AMD connections, since nvidia's altered shaders would give a leg up to nvidia users only. But even that would be doubtful. If you want further proof, here it is: Tridef. They make their living by selling modified shaders.

I disagree it would be a problem, for the reasons stated above, and expanded on by Volnaiskra. I'm also fairly certain Tridef modifies and distributes shaders. Either way, let's not give nVidia reasons/excuses to not provide the best experience possible. :)

Shader fixes aside, how about some useful features and utilities ... SBS, eye dominant ADS, AutoConvergence(Max'Depth'&Max'PopOut' Settings, game specific(including Depth)), selectable 'MonitorSize' and or the ability to push Depth past 100%(like Convergence no Max), Generic 3D DLP HDTV support(Lol), updated Dynamic LaserSights(ability to make your own), 'Zero' Convergence HotKey(ADS), etc. I'm sure there's tons more that could be implemented to make it a better experience ... the two years I've been using 3D Vision I've seen absolutely nothing implemented, only removed or broken ... most of it is still just remnants of the original 'Stereoscopic 3D' drivers that were free that I was using some 13-14 years ago ... with all the good stuff stripped, gamma correction, monitor size, etc.

Thanks to many of you for your well-presented, thoughtful posts. While I can not reply to them all or make any promises for upcoming changes, etc., I can assure you the right people will read them. That said, would really like to keep this thread on topic as much as possible - we realize 3D Compatibility Mode is not an ideal solution. However, we do feel it serves a purpose and, as this release demonstrates, we will listen to reasonable suggestions for ways to improve it for everyone. Also realize, that the target user for this mode is likely not a member of this forum - in that most of you are well-versed with applying many of the excellent user-created mods that are out there. Compatibility Mode is not meant as a replacement for those.

That was an Nvidia sponsored game and it looked great in 3D. Maybe you can do something with Ubisoft which you guys are partnered with, to create a True 3D experience for us. Any info on when there may be 3D vision surround support for 3D compatibility mode? There are many Surround users here and we would like to be able to use this feature in Surround.

I don't know WHY people are simply not reading:)) I posted this a while ago.... !!!!!!!!!The new Compatibility mode DOES WORK WITH 3D VISION SURROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (just not the direct way) Easy to follow steps: 1. Start your game (tested Bioshock Infinite and Assassin's Creed 4) 2. Go to Options => Select a SINGLE MONITOR RESOLUTION 3. Be sure that the Compatibility mode is enabled (by default is enabled if not toggle it with CTRL+ALT+F11) 4. After you see it working on one monitor simply change the resolution to a SURROUND one. THE COMPATIBILITY RENDER MODE WILL BE REMEMBERED!!!! 5. That is it;)) The only thing is that it doesn't trigger automatically;)) I think at the moment the new mode is still experimental and thus the lack of direct and official support, but I expect that is not that hard to do in the future. If you want proof let me know. PS: I used CAPS so maybe this time it will JUMP in front when you are reading this post:))) @Conan481 try that and I bet 10001% it will work;)) If not, tell me the game you are trying it on and I will try the same;))

Thanks, Tried it on Bioshock Infinite which I just played through and both expansions with the Helix fix. It works...... No offense to Steve, but Wow does it look like shit. Not only is the 3D effect barely noticeable but it substantially DEGRADES image quality. I'd rather play in 2D then play with this fake 3D crap. I can't imagine any real 3D enthusiast to be pleased with this result. Unless Bioshock infinite is one of the worst examples of 3D compatibility games, then I'd rather Nvidia just not bother wasting resources on such half ass measures. Instead of paying people to come up with this $%*$, why not spend to money to send some people to work with developers on big games such as Watch Dogs? I didn't expect it to be this bad. Halo around most objects that are separated (gun, etc)no real 3D effect at all. It's like a pop out book with a few layers. Not even close to what I'd consider 3D. Sorry for the rant, but I can't keep calm with this kind of crap being peddled to us. Also, tired AC4 for a few minutes and also looks like crap. Why does the image seem to degrade? It's like it's downscaling the resolution. With real 3D everything looks equally as good as 2D but it's just stereo. With fake 3D it's all low res and shit looking, to the point that I'd rather play 2D for the better graphics. I checked all my settings and I'm runing at the correct (MAX) res and it looks like I'm running 2 resolutions under what I'm actually running at. What a joke! Sorry if I offended anyone.

Just to add my two cents, please Steve add 3d Vision support for the Oculus Rift. I recently got an ATI 7970 instead of my good old GTX 460 that has given me a great service with 3d vision, 3d vision right now is lacking, so I find no reason to stay with Nvidia. VR with 3d Vision would be fantastic, and I would go back to Nvidia in an instant since I prefer your cards better, but they are a hell lot more expensive, and since I care most for 3d and VR, they don't give me any real advantage. Right now I use my G53SX with 3d vision, but 3d vision compatibility mode is not enough for may of us to care for 3d vision anymore. Either you start releasing real 3D DX11 fixes, or support the new wave of VR HMDs.

I find it funny... People kept on ranting about no 3D Vision support from nvidia...now they gave support...and now people come bashing again that IT'S NOT exactly HOW THEY WANT IT....PFFFFFF I also find the compatibility version poorer than the actual quad-buffering technique (the proper 3D Vision) but I would rather play a game in Compatibility 3D rather than plain 2D. Again if you don't like it don't use it... Like someone said it...it is illegal to "sell shader code" of a proprietary software. So nvidia cannot DO what Helixmod does (basically PARTICULAR shader modification and put those shaders in the driver). 3D Vision Automatic is all based around SHADER MODIFICATION during creation/usage time but in a generalistic WAY! That's why 3D Vision Automatic works better on some games and worst on other. It's FUNNY how people are actually bashing nvidia for the CRAP that developer wrote in their shaders:))) Also, Steve said this 3D Compatibility mode is NOT targeted at hardcore users or the ones that frequently are on these forums and make fixes but rather the bigger audience (which probably don't even have a forums account) Anyway, I just wanted to voice this thing out... PS: and before I get a "fanboy" comment or something.... I can say one thing. To some I might be a fanboy to other everything that I said makes perfect sense and can be proven. NOT Giving credit to the people that created something IF it's not according to your DESIRES is baaad....:)

I also find the compatibility version poorer than the actual quad-buffering technique (the proper 3D Vision) but I would rather play a game in Compatibility 3D rather than plain 2D.

It's FUNNY how people are actually bashing nvidia for the CRAP that developer wrote in their shaders:)))

Also, Steve said this 3D Compatibility mode is NOT targeted at hardcore users or the ones that frequently are on these forums and make fixes but rather the bigger audience (which probably don't even have a forums account)

Anyway, I just wanted to voice this thing out...

PS: and before I get a "fanboy" comment or something.... I can say one thing. To some I might be a fanboy to other everything that I said makes perfect sense and can be proven. NOT Giving credit to the people that created something IF it's not according to your DESIRES is baaad....:)
