What kind of FPS drop to you get by using 3d vision Probably a future 3d vision owner
Hi, i heard theres a 60% FPS drop with Left for dead but i know its a game built with 3d in mind.

Is it the same for other games as well or its less than that? 50%, 40%, 30% ?

Im especially interested in those game.

Unreal tournament 3
mirrors edge
assassins creed
tomb raider underworld
mass effect
dead space
fallout 3
fear 2
company of heroes:opposing front
COD4-5

Do you have to sacrifice a few setting like textures, AA or resolution to make it work in 3d?

Also does Sli cause problem with 3d. I just bought a GTX 295

Thx for help!

Yes SLI works with 3D Vision.

I have a GTX285 and the framerate drop is literally no noticeable on any game i've played. I get better framerates in 3D at 1680x1050 resolution compared to my 2650x1600 playing in 2D.

There is a thread here (list of the best 3D vision games) that has tons of information about the games that work the best, or the official (older) list on nvidia.com

From what I have gathered around here, SLI has slightly more "flickering" than non-sli. That's why I chose the 285. You should have few if any issues. It will be the best upgrade you could get!!

I have Geforce GTX285, Core i7 940 and Vista 64bit. I play a lot of games from demanding Flight Simulator X to shooters like Crysis, COD series, L4D....to Tomb Raider...lots others...all in 3D stereo. So far I don't have any frame rate issues. I run all of these games with maxed settings, except those settings that affect proper Stereo 3D effect. Even Crysis Warhead runs so smooth with max settings in 3D. Another very demanding game is FSX both from CPU side and GPU. I run it at everything maxed in 3D, flying over manhattan and I get above 20 frames.

Yhea but there's a big gap between 1680x1050 and 2650x1600

Ok so i doubt i would have problem with a GTX 295 except maybe for flickering.

Good thing for me im not into FSX i know this game is a pain to run lol.

What setting affect proper 3D effect? AA, v-sync post-processing?

1680x1050 at 120hz -VS.- 2560x1600 at only 60hz

I figure the strain is about the same as they both require dual-link DVI cable.

why would 120hz drop the framerate? The card renders what it can render as fast as it can regardless of the refresh rate.

Because your video card with the 3d setup has to render everything twice (effectively), take that 1680x1050 and double it, and then add a few extra calculations to match up Z-buffer information into depth info for the glasses.

That's sorta the simple version of it, as I understand things.

I forgot to mention it was rendered from two angles at 60hz each. It's like having two 1680x1050 monitors at 60hz. That doubled would be 3360x2100. Much higher than 2560x1600, but still better frame-rate.
