DarkStarSword now in Sydney + Game Dev Meetups
If you've noticed that I have been less active in this community over the last few months it's because there's been a lot of stuff happening in my personal life - I got married, went on a honeymoon, then my Wife got a job in Sydney so we moved house, and I'm in the middle of transitioning to a leadership role in my day job, which I am now having to do remotely... Really quite a lot happening all at once! I've been in Sydney for a couple of weeks now and am beginning to get settled in and life is slowly returning to normal. Last week I attended a game dev meetup where I demonstrated several games in 3D (Lichdom Battle, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty & Stranded Deep): http://www.meetup.com/Sydney-Gamers-and-Game-Developers/events/219575865/ The response was extremely positive - there were about a dozen people there, mostly developers and artists, and most of them were pretty blown away. I heard a lot of comments there that we've heard before - that it was the first time they had seen 3D that made them actually want to buy a 3D screen themselves, that they were really impressed with how much extra detail became apparent in 3D, that 3D in 1080p is really nice to look at, and that it was nothing like 3D movies. I had lots of great discussions with them, from topics ranging from stereo projections, the differences between modding existing games vs implementing stereo natively, virtual reality (and I had the opportunity to visit Serenity from Firefly in the Oculus Rift), and so on. I'm planning to continue attending this meetup whenever I can make it - they meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month at North Sydney Tafe: http://www.meetup.com/Sydney-Gamers-and-Game-Developers/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/SydneyGamersMeetup/ There's also another regular game dev meetup in Sydney that meets on the [s]3rd[/s] 2nd Tuesday of every month - I'm planning to head along next month and check them out as well: http://www.meetup.com/igda-sydney/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/SydneyIGDA/ If anyone else in this community is in Sydney these meetings would be a great place to meet up. Or, if you would rather head to the pub some day I'm up for that too :)

First of all a BIG CONGRATULATIONS !!! for everything ^_^ I would really really love to be part of the meetings if only if it wouldn't be on the other side of the world... :( It is really fascinating when break up "myths" isn't it ? I know feeling, I had the opportunity to show proper 3D to quite a lot of people (both from and outside the industry) and almost 100% of the time they were blown away and said that is not like the cinema 3D :)) Always puts a smile on my face;) If you'll ever have meetings in the UK you can count on my support and attendance;)) and again CONGRATULATIONS ^_^

Hey, congratulations! It's great that you're piquing people's interest in 3D over there. Sydney is a bit far for me too, otherwise I'd definitely buy you a beer. :)

Awesome dude ! Welcome to Sydney ! Where did you and your wife settle in Sydney? We live in Manly at the beach - love it here. I commute to the city each day now instead of flying to Canberra which I absolutely hated. I'd be happy to join as I see myself as an enthusiast when it comes to gaming (when I have time) and especially hardware!

Congratulations for so many accomplishments in your personal and professional life, best of luck in the future! And many thanks for championing stereovision, I wanted to to the same thing at some point, and show it to some of my co-workers and friends, but there are no longer any 3D Vision Laptops being made. Good luck in Sydney!

I'm really happy that the reception to stereo 3D gaming has been positive. If Nvidia had put more effort into promoting this, I truly believe stereo 3D gaming would have been a standard by now. Also.. Congrats DarkStarSword!
