Great information PaulDusler.
Mutch easier then digging true the AVS forums to find the info lol
Still very happy with this projector.
So it seems the Uhd51 won`t do Full 3d?
No, although Optoma is advertising the projector as "Full 3D". This really misleads people as they think that all 3D formats are supported.
However they kept a little back door open. This is a quote from the Optoma UHD51A product website:
"Full 3D
Display true 3D content from almost any 3D source, including 3D Blu-ray Disc™ players, 3D broadcasting, and the latest-generation game consoles."
Now we know that with "almost any 3D source" they meant that frame sequential from PC is not supported xD. The only 3D format which is not bandwidth handicapped... in my opinion this projector is NOT "Full 3D" then ;).

While I definitely can't argue the lack of frame-sequential @120Hz or the 'Full 3D' label...I will say that I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything with the UHD51A. I've been having a great time with this projector since accepting defeat for 1920x1080x120, mainly because:
[.]The UHD resolution makes even 720p content look good (w/ anti-aliasing) on a 140" DIY screen from less than 12 feet away.[/.]
[.]3D movies @ 1080p24 are georgeous. Much sharper than my previous BenQ w1070.[/.]
[.]Many of my DX9 games can be downsampled with GeDoSaTo.[/.]
[.]Many of my DX11 games support 3Dmigoto and can run in 1080p TaB.[/.]
[.]For the rest, I still have TriDef...[/.]
So, while I'm not getting frame sequential @120Hz...the next best options have produced very high quality 3D at 60fps per eye. On my SLI 1070's, I'm sort of in my sweet spot with games from 2012-2016 that I can run maxed out without dipping below 60fps. I loved my Benq w1070, but aside from the screen splitting bug in Windows @3840x2160/RGB and slow switching between video modes...I've been thrilled with the performance of the UHD51A as a 3D gaming projector.

Great work Pauldusler by putting the info together step by step for this projector.
I currently have Benq HT2050 1080p projector which works great with 3DTVPlay of course but I gave up 3D gaming on it a long time ago due to extremely low resolution of 720p in 3D. TaB mode was great but overall didn't help much. This thread gave me new hope of starting 3D gaming on projector again with 1080p 3D.
I'm about to pull the trigger and get Optoma UHD50 with a black Friday deal. Just a couple things I wanted to make sure about though they are addressed in the FAQs:
1 - I checked the manual and 1920X1080@120Hz is not listed as a supported resolution. It's listed in manual of a more expensive model 4k550 which specifically states support for 1920X1080@120Hz 3D in product page. In your desktop are you able to set this resolution for desktop?
2 - If I don't use DSR then any EDID is not required right. And how much of a difference DSR makes anyways, is it huge improvement in quality? When I tried DSR with 3DTVPlay it didn't make much difference.
3 - While I was reading about this projector on AVSForum some folks did try to get 1920X1080@120Hz 3D working with but I think they had issues with eye sync. Do you experience any eye sync problem over time or ghosting etc.
Thanks again.

Yes, I can set 1920x1080 @ 120hz on my Windows desktop as well as games. Optoma probably simply forgot to list the resolution in their manual because they just copied the content of the manual from a template or so ;)

Yes, the EDID override is only needed if you want to use DSR.
DSR is a nice to have-feature. While you really needed this on 720p projector it's only optional for Optoma UHD 40/50 because 1080p already looks good out of the box. 4k DSR really makes the image perfect and very clear / crisp without any aliasing effects. I only use it in older games where my graphics card is strong enough for this.

It happened to me 3-4 times so far (in 6 months) that eyes started swapping every 10 seconds or so. A simple reboot of windows fixed it permanently. Maybe it was some driver or Windows 10 bug. Except for this everything worked very good (no ghosting over time or eye sync issues). How much ghosting you see depends on the quality of your DLP glasses. Funnily I made the experience that the cheapest DLP glasses have the least ghosting (you can read this in FAQ...).
Btw I've added your question to the FAQ concerning 1920x1080 @120hz vs resolutions listed in the manual

I own the UHD51A and can confirm that it does not support frame sequential 3D mode (needed for 3D Vision @1080p60. The projector does support 1920x1080x120 in 2D.
Interestingly, 3D mode can be invoked manually at 1920x1080x120, but the image has banding artifacts and heavy flicker.

Thanks Pauldusler for your help. I'm just waiting for a good deal on UHD50. I just missed it a few days ago when it went down to $1539CAD, it's now $1799CAD in Canada.
It's probably gonna be a long time before we see anything close to 1440p 120Hz 3D and DisplayPort connection frame sequential plus confirmed 3D Vision compatibility lol. For now I'd be a happy gamer with UHD50 for years to come :)

Try 1920x1080@118 or 122, if the red overlay warning comes up, it can easily be rectified. If there is a limitation built into the software for that refresh rate, this might allow you to get around it. Also try using CVT Reduced Blank timings

Sounds very promising! I've looked in the manual and it even supports both DLP Link and IR. Lamp is very bright with 4500 ANSI Lumen but this of course results in a greater noise level (32 db) and lamp only lasts 5000 hours. I think it's pretty likely that this projector supports 3D Vision as it has native frame sequential support. Anyone volunteering for testing? Btw is this projector 0.47" DMD or 0.66"?
