Well apparently in their attempt to stop cheaters in the multiplayer portion of Crysis 2, Crytek has basically disabled most Cvars that people were using in their autoexec.cfg and system.cfg files. This includes the tweaks many of us were using to make their version of sucky 3D into somewhat less sucky 3D. One of the devs said they are looking into adding in some of Cvars back into the game but I guess we will see. I don't know why they didn't make the multiplayer portion of the game a separate folder of the game from the single player. Oh wait, probably because it's a console port.

Crysis 2 was ruined by the elimination of quicksaving, a crucial feature that present in Crysis. For me, everything else is a moot point since I won't be playing Crysis2 anyway.

So, you mean all those graphics mods and 3D settings that we used from crymod.com are no longer working since this patch was applied??? I have Steam version so it's updated for sure, there was an update 2 days ago, it should be this 1.4 I guess.
the 3D in Crysis 2 is complete joke, a console type of 3D, not for PC high end users. The tweaks I got for Crysis 2 3D settings made the effect a little bit less nasty, so I'll be really pissed off if I can no longer use those settings.
I understand the graphics and 3D mods's not working in multiplayer cause it's hard for coders to see if it's a cheat, graphics enchancement or whatever. I just can't understand why this would affect single player mode, it doesn't make sense????
Where the hell is the damn DX11 patch, that's the one we want. Maybe til Christmas.....

while that is true the sad fact is that all that will be left are console ports. It just makes more sense from a business perspective. Why waste cash and develop on all 3 systems while you can develop on a Console port to the rest and throw in some frosting and port to the PC. They tend to get more sales from the Consoles than for the PCs anyway.
So although I have spent thousands on My RIG, I have come to accept the reality of it.

While that may be true too, there is nobody forcing you to buy it. I know I haven't bought any games in at least 6 months for that reason. I'll follow the game's forums for a while to see what the problems are and if the reviews are positive then I will buy it. Crysis 2 forums were filled from the get-go with people complaining about problems so I passed on it. Portal 2 is safe to buy from what I can tell so far so it will be my first purchased game in at least 6 months. Crytek has a habit of making games that they never issue patches for to fix. I learned that a long time ago with crysis. They pissed and moaned about pirates and hackers and cried like little girls about it and then washed their hands of support issues. I don't forget things like that.

Well I saw things on twitter like a dev saying " community? This is no community" /blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> and I told my stuff in response too, heh. /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' />

Crysis 2 single player ran superb on my pc, very well optimized, great use of color, i like the lighting blur effect from the nanosuit visor, the a.i can be a bit naff but then most games sp a.i is computer controlled so it's expected (although a little more dev creativity would not go a miss with c.e.l.l. a.i route patrols etc). Superb DX 9 game and portal 2 is a superb DX 9 game too. My only gripe with crysis 2 is that there is no editor or mod tools :(

Exactly right. Devs complain about pirates "stealing" from them, then they turn around and ruin an other wise good game, charge $55 for what amounts to a blank DVD in jewel case. If pirating is stealing, then the devs are *REALLY* stealing.
Instead of playing Crysis2, I'll play Crysis Warhead a second time. CW had quicksave so unlike CR2, I won't spend 95% of my time re-killing the same bad guys over and over again just to reclaim the progress taken away from me by a whim of the developer.

You can enable Cvars again by backing up the Crysis2.exe in the bin32 folder and grabbing the last backup of the Crysis2.exe from the Backups folder (mine was named Crysis2.exe.bk2) and placing that back into the bin32 folder as Crysis2.exe. You will probably need to restore the original .exe file before the next patch comes out to update the game properly. I use this to play the single player portion of the game with all my custom tweaks although I will probably hold off again until the DX11 patch comes out. I am pretty sure this .exe trick won't work for multiplayer but I don't really care about that part of the game.
