Penumbra Supported? Can't get 3D in Penumbra
I recently purchased the $5 mega-super deal Penumbra collection on Steam. The game looks fun so far, but I can't get my 3D vision to work with it.

(I have 3D vision working fine in Warcraft, Left 4 Dead, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 2, etc. ... so it is set up properly on my computer. It is just Penumbra so far that doesn't work.)

I don't see Penumbra on the supported games list -- so maybe it isn't going to work at all?

I was surprised that it wouldn't even try to work. I assumed any 3D game would at lest attempt to work in stereoscopic mode. Does the game need to be officially supported to even attempt 3D mode?

Anyone played Penumbra in 3D? Or can confirm that it doesn't work in 3D? This seems like the type of game where 3D would shine... oh well. Thanks for the feedback.

You've just come across the single biggest issue with 3d vision - Nvidia has decided (in their infinite wisdom) that it wouldn't be a worthwhile decision to let gamers force 3d in games that don't officially support it. You can try renaming the EXE, but that only works in a couple rare situations. Basically, is penumbra a AAA blockbuster? No?

Forget about playing it in 3d, then. Thanks, nvidia! Thanks for letting me buy a 250 dollar 3d setup that only works properly in maybe 5 games I actually like!

I haven't run into a game that hasn't worked yet, but I haven't played any of the older stuff yet either. I imagine that nV will probably give us the option to force 3d eventually.

I am a bit more upset with the lack of Opengl support personally, older drivers had opengl support with my e-dimensional glasses, so I wonder why they got rid of it.

Splitting your forum time these days, eh? Too bad this place doesn't update like r3d does.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll eventually support opengl and forced 3d, but I'm getting sick of waiting. How bloody hard can it be?

I bought the Penumbra pack too... but the biggest problem with the game isn't the force 3D thingy.
It's the Opengl support since Penumbra is an Opengl game... so you can try renaming as much as you want, the game will not be supported.

Big disappointment too /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />... because now, since I tried the S3D, it's a bit hard to play game in 2D :'(

I bought this great pack to even then I allreday have played them all. I know that it dident work in 3D yet as it's OpenGl but I hope that nVidia will release the promised drivers tho. how long we have to wait is another story then /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

LOL, r3d can't fulfill all of my 3d stereo fanboy fantasies now can it?

I'm sure nV will get opengl working if only to support carmacks new engine. It is mystery why it was removed though. I don't suppose anyone knows why it was ripped out of the stereo 3d drivers.

Well, that's too bad but I do appreciate all of the replies! It verifies that I wasn't missing something -- thanks.

I'm reviving this thread to say that there is no real surprise that 1 year later it still doesn't support opengl. Thinking of returning these 200 dollar gimmick glasses.

I just picked up the series for $20 US, and damn, a real shame it doesn't work! I'm sure if it was supported it would work very well, as there is not too much post processing etc...

Oh well, nvidia, where is that opengl support ???
