Alan Wake - what are the 3D recommended settings?

Does anyone know?

Perhaps nVidia crew could help?
(BTW, are you going to release a new driver for it?)

The guys at Remedy specifically stated that the game is 3d-vision ready, or at least compatible. So I hope no driver update will be necessary.

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is a native 3D title since it supports both 3D Vision and HD3D. You should get native stereo and a choice of output modes, can't verify for myself because I don't own the game.

Recommended settings - wait for fix before buying, cause 3d sucks, SLI's not working and at this time I doubt surround works ok, but don't have the hardware to test.

Seems the people who made this game had no clue about 3D. :(

They talk about using 4-5 "bars" of depth... Yeah, that's when everything starts exploding and you actually see something in 3D.

Everything's incorrect so far. Shadows - different for each eye, lighs - 2D cones overlayed on top of the 3D scene (WTF?!?, that can't even be fixed!), lights in scene - different for each eye, some light planes behind windows render in front of the windows for one of the eyes.

The game's unplayable in 3D whenever there's lights and shadows and... well the game is about lights and shadows. :)

I doubt some of this stuff can be fixed. Their testing department seems to be one guy that put on the glasses and said - "it looks fine".

PS: Added a screenshot showing some general crappyness. :(

Just listened to a podcast interview with one of the developers: He said that he is not a fan of S3d. Luckily there would be a slider that allows to adjust the depth. He played the game in S3d and it was the first time he liked S3D in a game...
I think this explains everything: Someone who doesn't like S3D is forced by the marketing management to implement S3D as a "special feature for PC", takes one look at it with minimum depth settings, is happy that he hardly doesn't notice that the game is in "disturbing" S3D - and here is the 3DVision ready sticker on a bull**** /verymad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':verymad:' />
He also mentioned that S3D is a niche segment and only a few people would have the adequate equipment for S3D gaming. So if they ever will make a bugfix for S3D - guess which priority the support for a "niche segment" will have on their bugfix list...

Yeah, I watched the interview, I think that complaints on Remedy's site are in order. What does it matter if it is a "niche" segment or not, if you add a feature add it right or don't do it at all. I've recently read an interview with the guys from High Moon Studios (Transformers games), who said that they're not doing a pc version of their latest game, due to their inability to properly support the platforms. I liked the last Transformers, but this is the way to go if you know you'll mess something up - be dignified and say you can't do it. Don't simply declare functionality and then leave people wondering at your incompetence.

Generally I wouldn't be pissed off at poor S3D support, many games just don't work with it, but they lie to their customers! This is from the Steam Store page for this game:
Works with AMD Eyefinity 3D 3-screen mode.
Works with NVIDIA NVISION2 Stereoscopic 3D
None of these are even close to comfortable play. Come to think of it - it's not actually a lie, it does work... you CAN turn it on. :) Just like a broken light bulb can be turned on. It won't give you any light, but the switch will say it's on.

I think what happened was that they just turned on 3D vision and it WORKED. They were most likely 3D newbs and to them it was awesome 3D because they have NO IDEA what they are talking about. I doubt this will ever get fixed as it seems a dev just turned on 3D vision and decided that it worked. Of course it will work that way but the only games that really won't work in that regard are Opengl games.

Some of the problems mentioned by ENAK have been fixed with a patch but the game is still unplayable in 3D. Some scenes look really, really great, but things like: light or shadow seen with one eye and not seen by the other spoil the fun.

All these issues with 3D gaming make me wonder:

Is there a game that you really like playing in 3D?

I can't think of many. BF3 and MW 2 & 3 look great, but still, I get better results in Multiplayer with 3D off. Perhaps Trine and Zombieland were fun to play in 3D and that's it.

Yes I definitely feel there's a lot of negativity and ignorance with regard to S3D based on preconceived notions and prejudice. I also think its a big problem when devs don't even know what proper 3D is supposed to look like. While different 3D settings are going to be more/less comfortable for every individual based on their preferences, there are some fundamentals that need to be adhered to. When devs don't understand what 3D is supposed to look like, you get games that look like this or even in games that support 3D, look terrible (Deus Ex HR).

Every dev needs to get a copy of Trine 2 to understand what S3D should look like, then go from there imo.

Idk the link in my sig there's tons of games I really enjoyed in S3D. With HeliX mod there's a few that have been improved significantly. Overall I'd say I'm pleased with the state of 3D Gaming as we've seen significant progress in terms of developer uptake and implementation in every year I've owned the kit. 2011 was a huge success for 3D Vision imo, and I expect more of the same in 2012.

Skyrim's amazing in 3D (you have to play it in TPP though). GTA4 - never going back to 2D on that one. The Witcher 2 (and 1 too, I guess) can make your jaw drop. :) Trines of course. There's plenty more here - games that simply "level up" when you put the glasses on.

From recent games - Amalur, totally amazing with Helix'es fix (outstanding work, btw! devs should be ashamed!).

Tons of amazing stuff in S3D, there are lists made of those on this forum and others - one thing though, you absolutely must know how to tweak the convergence/depth settings. Otherwise the effect will be shallow or just annoying.

Oh, yes, Bulletstorm was amazing visually - without 3D it's just another linear shooter.

I'd like to try Helix, but it's only for DX9, right?
Can you use it with DX11? If so, can it improve Alan Wake?
