Just finished the "main campaign" in Batman Arkham VR and I am totally flashed by what I just witnessed. Absolutely incredible! Still I have lots to do in Gotham as you can solve those Riddler-challenges and unlock stuff by doing it (yes when everything appears in front of you in its true scale then unlocking character- and vehicle-models is definitely appealing).
But more important to me is the fact that this one definitely felt like a real game in which you are totally immersed. As I said (and I am the one who is most surprised about it) up to this point Playstation VR for me gets the closest to what VR should offer (all aspects considered) and I definitely recommend it to all of you. If you know someone who already has PS VR at home you should definitely try it and not judge it by mere tech-facts that might turn you off!

A first person game must be at a very slow pace to be good, as to be able to move your head and walk properly in the game while shooting lots of other things just think doesn't work.
So far I have played some first person games on PSVR and I think the are fine and don't feel too slow. Granted none of them are shooters so we'll see how that goes when Fairpoint is released for the VR.

Third person games I see no benefits compared to 3D vision. You get a much better experience with high resolution and sense of depth in 3D Vision
I would have agreed as well, but the 3rd person platformer level in VR Playroom changed that completely and I would love to see that game expanded. It is like Mario 64 levels of gamechanging and really shows that even in 3rd person the immersion is off the charts.
For some reason, the depth also doesn't look as good in the headset, maybe because I am so used to 3D Vision and high convergence. I tested a game with the same covergence and comparing both TV and headset I can see more depth in the TV and give me a more woowwww sort of feeling.
I have never seen a 3dvision game give the sense of depth of any PS VR game I have tried. Maybe I don't have the right setup for 3dVision to shine?

I think VR is good for very specific games that must be designed for VR, otherwise I would rather play in stereoscopic 3D in my TV.
Exactly right. I would never ask to convert current built for 2d games to VR. They would never be quite right as you need a whole different game design philosophy from gameplay to asset design to really make VR something special. Bring on the VR exclusive and built for content as that is what VR needs.

It looks really nice and it does show that games made for VR can be fantastic, but it is not as big as I thought it would be which is kind of disapointing. This seems to be almost a Demo, short game where you get to play detective.
Perhaps Resident Evil will be an AAA title?

Maybe, but I don't think we will see anything like that in VR very soon.
Games like the Witcher 1/2/3 (complexity and length) will never ever see a VR release sadly...
If you have a 3D Vision display + hardware all of you should try the Witcher 3 at least. That game is a pure showcase in 3D Vision (not because we made a fix for it) but because of how gorgeous and how much detail (and attention to detail) the developers put inside.
There are other older (now dated) games that still out-shine anything VR can offer (which is really a BIG shame)... Just look at the whole Mass Effect series, Dragon Age and the Metro 2033 & Last Light... will we ever see something like this in VR? nope...don't think so... which is SAD...
That is what we WANT. That is what we NEED.
(Not a Batman game were we play "detective" mode instead of being well.. Batman. Saw the whole "game" on-line and I was a bit disappointed really...) The game looks and it's execution is SPECTACULAR! But... I've never felt like being Batman... if that makes sense...
The lack of a BODY and just floating HANDS that is INSTANT killer for me. Is instant Killer in 2D...let alone 3D... not to speak about VR... VR should all be about immersion... Floating hands? Where is the immersion in that?
This sounds like rant. Well it isn't! I just want the developers TO DO MORE than they did in the 3D Vision ERA. Currently they do LESS. We should go forward, not backwards!
So maybe is a bit of a rant, but just as an "awareness" reminder! We need to REMIND THEM, that currently VR is LESS than 3D Vision and WAY LESS than VR could offer !!!
Maybe their approach is better on the long term: Release "DEMOS" games and see if the VR catches on. In time they will commit to fully fledged AAA games.
Maybe how Nvidia did with 3D Vision was bad: Released a few FULLY FLEDGED AAA 3D VISION READY games (and because of this the releases were/are few) and 3D Vision wasn't adopted by the masses. Maybe, if they would have released a few AAA 3D Vision Ready games and a few 3D Vision Ready Demo games in between, things would have been better for this technology!
I pray that VR will STICK! More than 3D Vision every did! I really do! But I want to see PROPER GEOMETRY 3D STEREO in VR (with no CORNERS CUT) like we see in 3D Vision!
3D Vision will "still" not die and for a long time from now! But I want to say, YES we can USE VR to play 200-300-500 AAA games in it! (Like 3D Vision did on launch and a lot more now) - even if is 2-3 years from now!
And Maybe, by that time Nvidia will pull their head from their hole and realise what technology they have here... and give us 3D Vision 3/4/5 or something:)

I hope we get to see some AAA in VR. For now, I still need to catch up with all these 3D Vision games I have not played yet. Witcher 3 is one of them, the problem with the witcher games is that they are too long for me, I have just so many games in my list that I am never in the mood to play a Witcher game coz I know it will take forever, unless this forever is really good time spent hehehe...
Right now I am playing GEAR4 in 2D which sucks, this game in 3D would be awesome. Then next on my list SOMA, ROTR DLCs (which is my favorite game all time), Mafia 2 and perhaps 3 in sequence if we have a fix, Batman AK in SuperDepth, Mass Effect 3, Starcraft Legacy of the Void, Metro Games (yes still haven't played them), both Deus Ex, Dishonored, Shadow of Mordor, Metal Gear, Rise Son of Rome, The Vanishing of ethan Carter (was waiting for VR, but might as well play in 3D Vision), Spec Ops the Line, Sleeping Dogs, LA Noire, need also to finish Bioshock Infinite coz I stopped in the middle, 3D wasn't too impressive... and the list goes on and on.. I think I still have content for years here... any recommendations where to start top 5? hahahaha

While there are certainly gaming applications with VR, it's really it's own thing.
I picked up a RIft to use with Virtual Desktop and while having a virtual 300ft curved screen was absolutely incredible, wearing the device was tiresome, the effective resolution for traditional 3D games seems to be somewhere between 480i and 480p, and S3D performance was awful with the 970 I had at the time. Turning on Power 3D in Tridef helped with performance but in turn made me sick. Dedicated VR content was much better, but it was clear to me that it's still very much in the novelty/early adopter phase.
Devil Daggers was AMAZING with Virtual Desktop as the low resolution of the HMD is well suited for 240p style 3D visuals, but $600 is bit much to play PS1 titles on giant screen.
I ended up returning it. Looking forward to picking up another headset in a generation or two.

Have to disagree here. I don't know if I got you right Helifax but it seems you just witnessed Playstation VR on a flat TV-screen/monitor. This is like watching a 3D Vision game like Witcher 3 in 2D and then saying "I am not impressed with 3D Vision"!
Correct me if I am wrong but if that is all you have seen by now you shouldn't judge Playstation VR. Since I already demoed it to several people I also watched most of its content on the flat TV-screen while someone else had the PS VR headset attached to his head. Let me tell you that nearly everything I saw on the flat screen(even the experiences that I consider to be incredibly good) looked kind of boring to me when just looking at it on the TV. Now that is the point where I am with you and at the same time where I see the incredible potential:
If even something that is just plain boring when looking at it on the TV-screen transforms into something incredibly special (Batman, London Heist, etc.) when actually looking at it in VR how great will the experience be with big budget games like Resident Evil 7!?
Now you could say: That's the point! It's highly doubtful that these games will come out. I don't think so. Looking at Arkham VR, Resident Evil 7, the London Heist Demo you clearly can see that everything is already there. There are absolutely no technical barriers that would prevent such games from being made.
The only BIG obstacle there was up to this point was the fact that just a fracture of the user-base of a specific system owned a VR device and thus no major studio was willing to take the risk because the cost-benefit calculation seemed to always turn out negative.
This obstacle definitely vanishes with Playstation VR. Now let me make it clear that I absolutely pray for all those glorious VR games that hopefully are about to be released to be released not exclusively for Playstation VR but also for the Rift and the Vive so I can take these beasts to good use in the weeks/months to come. Right now unfortunately I have no real reason to take them of my shelf as releases are pretty thin right now (and the new PS VR is currently reason enough to let them rest a little longer on my shelf).
I also have to strongly disagree concerning "VR doesn't do enough right now and is outshined by 3D Vision".
These are 2 different pairs of shoes. There are aspects that are definitely better achieved by 3D Vision (visual quality) and there are also aspects where 3D Vision has nothing on VR at all (immersion, "being there"). Even 3D Vision Surround doesn't change anything here. I actually switched my 3x27" 3D Vision Surround Setup with a single 65" 4K OLED screen to get the best that 3D Vision has to offer in terms of visual quality, immersion and scale. But even this solution has absolutely nothing on VR when it comes to real immersion.
You definitely can't say that one is to be rated higher than the other because the deciding factor here is always the preference that someone has. It's just not possible to say: "3D Vision is better in the end because VR's visual quality is limited." Vice versa you can't say: 3D Vision is all about immersion but since it has nothing on VR in that regard due to the limitation of just a flat screen and the lack of head tracking we should rate VR higher.
I am loving both solutions since my preference is really split between appreciation for visual quality (that's the reason why I am gaming on my 65" 4K OLED in 3D Vision) and my appreciation for total immersion and the "being there"-experience (that's why I am using the Rift, the Vive and Playstation VR).

I was referring to the Batman game obviously.. not the VR aspect. I am sorry if this wasn't obvious enough;)
While I bet the game is way better in VR is still very poor as a "game".
Again, I expect it to be mind-blowing in VR but as a game is very poor.
The rest of the post still stands. If you agree with me or not, is irrelevant though;) That's why this is a forum afterall ;) So we can all express our beliefs. We don't all need to agree on everything;)
Also, really looking forward to see PROPER FULL AAA games in VR;) Even if they are exclusive to Sony VR. I'll buy a damn console and a VR kit for it. (You can still mod some things on a comsole/embedded device as well. Not as easy and straightforward as on a PC). Maybe this is what we need. Sony has the money to pay devs to develop full AAA games in VR. (Seems the devs currently are "afraid" to invest too much in VR and all we get are demos).

For better or for worse, Oculus is investing some serious money into AAA games. They've put in $250 Million so far, and announced another $250 Million at OC3.
Now a full budget AAA game is on the order of $100 Million by itself, but maybe we can agree it's not how much money is spent, it's the actual experience.
To that end, there are games on Rift that I would put in the AAA category:
Chronos: Similar style and play to Dark Souls. I've played Dark Souls with the Helix fix, and have played Chronos in Rift. I put it as definitely AAA experience, it's very good, and uses the Rift in unique and stellar ways.
Eve Valkyrie: Fighter sim, dogfight in space. DeathMatch game play which I find mostly boring, but not a big departure from Quake for example, or even something like Halo multiplayer. Definitely AAA caliber graphics and gameplay. They've added some new non deathmatch sections which are pretty good.
Dirt Rally: Actual driving game, in VR. AAA to start on PC, unless your definition of AAA is more strict. Haven't played it, supposed to be completely stellar.
Damaged Core: Another Oculus exclusive. Maybe not quite AAA in length, but the production values are definitely there. I have not played it.
Defense Grid 2: VR edition is an interesting take on the game, makes it like a playable mini battle. Maybe we can argue whether this is AAA, but it is definitely the entire game, and it's a real game that I've always enjoyed. VR doesn't add enough over 3D to me, but for people with no 3D, it's pretty killer.
MineCraft VR: never played it, but it's a real game, AAA values, mostly, sort-of, kind of.
Project Cars: AAA game without question. VR brings full in cockpit immersion and is pretty compelling. Low resolution is maybe a deal breaker for distance viewing, but it's a real game.
Elite Dangerous: AAA values, real game, deep game play. Have not played. By all takes a very compelling experience in VR.
Edge of NoWhere: Another Oculus exclusive. AAA values, deep game play. It's a real game. Have not played.
Honorable mention: Lucky's Tale. Too short to be a AAA game, even in the Mario 64 category. But, production values are there, gameplay is terrific, and it's actually fun.
Mostly the scenario is similar on Vive, but worse. No exclusives. AAA stuff is mostly in early access, which doesn't count. I'm probably missing some of course.
So... There are some.

So far I have played some first person games on PSVR and I think the are fine and don't feel too slow. Granted none of them are shooters so we'll see how that goes when Fairpoint is released for the VR.
I would have agreed as well, but the 3rd person platformer level in VR Playroom changed that completely and I would love to see that game expanded. It is like Mario 64 levels of gamechanging and really shows that even in 3rd person the immersion is off the charts.
I have never seen a 3dvision game give the sense of depth of any PS VR game I have tried. Maybe I don't have the right setup for 3dVision to shine?
Exactly right. I would never ask to convert current built for 2d games to VR. They would never be quite right as you need a whole different game design philosophy from gameplay to asset design to really make VR something special. Bring on the VR exclusive and built for content as that is what VR needs.

It looks really nice and it does show that games made for VR can be fantastic, but it is not as big as I thought it would be which is kind of disapointing. This seems to be almost a Demo, short game where you get to play detective.

I think I still have content for years here... any recommendations where to start top 5? hahahaha
