I run X-Plane in VR and it has a native VR mode where you do actually control the plane by flicking and switching knobs using your hands (ie the controllers). It really adds to the immersion.
I doubt MSFX will support that though. I also use a MSFFB2 joystick with X-Plane which has very few buttons so the ability to manipulate the controls in the plane directly is a god send.[/quote]

One thing you can do with the Vive, and Pro, that you can't do with any of the other headsets is- Go Wireless.
Index and HP Reverb are vastly less interesting to me because of this. Getting rid of the wire for actual VR experiences adds a magical element to it that is hard to describe. No cable dragging behind, no corner of your brain keeping track of how many twists are around your legs.
There is also the TPCast, but that seemed like a real kludge to me with an added router as part of the setup. Does work with Rift however.

I don't understand the general negativity that people have towards VR in this forum. If anything I would imagine people here would be a bit more open to it. But instead I usually see misinformed posts crapping on the tech because of the resolution, SDE etc. If resolution was the only thing that mattered I wouldn't even be on this forum because I'd be playing games on my 4k HDR tv instead of on my 720p projector. Instead I rather play at a much lower resolution with far less contrast because of the much larger screen and stereoscopic rendering that i get on my projector, hands down. Same thing goes with VR, I'm willing to sacrifice resolution and clarity to be fully immersed with real positional head tracking and tracked controllers. Would I rather play Skyrim in VR, at a lower resolution with fewer effects like no Ambient occlusion, or play it using 3D Vision? If VR wasn't an option i wouldn't even bother playing it, period, been there done that. So instead of ragging on the technology you should embrace it along with it's limitations because it provides a completely different experience.
Now as far as the Valve Index goes, I got rid of my Vive to get one. I can't wait till it arrives, hopefully in june since i order it with the first 5 minutes of orders opening. I bought the whole kit which was pretty expensive but in the end i think it will be worth it. Every one seems to be turned off because of the resolution, but as someone who's owned almost every hmd that's been out since the original oculus DK1 I can tell you that resolution isn't the biggest factor, optics are. It's doesn't matter if you're running 4k panels if everything is blurry or distorted. The index is using dual lenses to increase the size of sweet spot and give you better overall clarity. Some of the early impressions I've read (like the ones from Norm from Tested) say that you can look around with your eyes instead of having to rotate your head, this indicates a much larger sweet spot. On my Vive I literally have to keep the headset perfectly positioned and lock my eyes forward the whole time. The response time on the lcd panels is also super low, so that when you do move your head those pixels will change faster instead of smearing which makes things clearer. Everyone seems to be touting the pimax on these forums and i don't understand why, I personally haven't used one but my general impression is that it's typical chinese tech, they copied technology and increased the specs without fully understanding the demands. I've read about people complaining about distortion and quality control, lack of product support etc, stuff you'd expect from a chinese company. So why someone would recommend a pimax over the index i don't understand. The reverb loos nice but it's targeting a different market, commercial stuff like architecture, cad etc were you need better resolution. The trade off is that the tracking isn't the greatest since it uses camera tracking instead of valve's base stations, it has a smaller sweet spot, lower fov, it's basically designed for a seated experience we're you're not going to be moving around or looking around as much. So why would you get one? Might was well stick to 3D vision if you want to sit down and look at stuff. On top of what i've already mentioned the index has better audio than any of it's competitors, and don't even get me started on the controller's they've got something like 80 sensors on them. Anyhow that's my rant. Maybe I'm just falling for the marketing but i doubt it because I've done my research. I guess we'll find out for sure when i get mine in a couple of months.
Cheers!

Meh, I think you are greatly misunderstanding some of us. We'd simply rather wait until the tech is to where it merits buying into it, based on our desires. Low FOV equala no buy today and every day for me due to motion sickness, plus immersion would be enhanced with a larger FOV.
I respect the opinion of lohan_0903, it's not like the Pimax5K+ that he owns is his first VR device. It also has LCD screens, hence my recommendation to Helifax. I'm no fan of their product naming, it is in no way 5K. There are also some good YouTube videos showing that it has good clarity.
The one thing that stands out to me about the Index, is their claim of very low sub-pixel persistence. Hopefully, it's not just some marketing gimmick.
As far as the audio, I'm certain that between the air conditioner, refrigerator noise and neighbor's dog barking, I'd remove the Index's off ear speakers and opt for a proper headphone.

Good for you, I personally won't waste any more money on the VR sh*t until it gets to where is should be.
I have few 3D devices with proper image quality and some nice games to keep me company until VR deserves my money.

Agreed. And we know how that turned out! Great video game crash of 1983. Although I was playing computer games back then and didn't notice that consoles went belly up for a time. Of course that was due to people trying to "cash in" on the new video game craze. VR is completely different. There is no "cash in" available. Just a pile of student projects peddled through the great garbage dump that is Steam and Steam EA.

That is a very interesting subject. I was actually looking today to see what good experiences are in VR.
Obviously I know about Hellblade and ROTTR from when they were launched, but what other games for VR you guys would recommend (both from Oculus Store and Steam) ?
I looked in the VR forums, but couldn't really found this subject. (For example I did some digging and found out about ARKTIKA 1. which is made by 4A games, same guys from Metro Series).
If such a list already exists, can you please point me in the right direction!
Many thanks

There are some random games that have VR support that required being hacked depending on which headset you have. Search the net and you'll find a list.

Monstrum has Rift support, but needs hacked for anything else. I've been holding off on playing it until a get a VR device
And fuck Sega for never following through on their official VR support in Alien Isolation.
There was also that Unity command line -vrmode. I've no idea if it does anything, I never had a way to test. W10 is required. Or was it -force-d3d11 -vrmode stereo

Again with the madness of talking about VR on the 3D Vision forums. There are actual forums setup specifically for VR, but people still come here to talk about it.
That's kinda/sorta OK, but then to come to 3D Vision forums and tell us all that we are stupid for not going all in on VR is a bit offensive.
There are only 2 or 3 people here who are absolutely down on VR, the rest of us have a measured opinion. I'm sorry that I cannot be a wild-eyed enthusiast about VR, but my opinions about VR and even 3D Vision are never as simple as black/white. And while I'm at, fsck today's world- if you aren't a full enthusiast you are a hater. Nobody has time for nuance.
The simple fact is the same as for 3D Vision. Everyone has different preferences, so their experience with the different technology is either good or bad depending upon what they prefer. Hate ghosting? Get a projector. Need the best color? Get a 3D Vision monitor. Cannot tolerate motion sickness? Maybe VR is not for you. Need easy setup for VR? Old Oculus is not the way to go. It doesn't, and cannot be a simple black and white scenario. Everyone is different.
I've actually done the back-to-back experiment of VR versus 3D Vision on two different games. I like to experiment and try to understand the strengths and weaknesses, even if no one else will ever care about the nuance.
In my humble opinion, and experience, it also depends upon the game. I played both Fallout 4 VR and Subnautica in VR. Full game, all the way to the end. 200+ hours in each. I also played the 3D Vision version of Fallout 4 on projector, another full playthrough for a different faction. And played maybe 1/3 of Subnautica on projector. Projector is my top 3D Vision experience of choice. Both 3D Vision games were perfectly fixed, 3D Vision Ready. Both worked in VR without any real problems.
Results: I like Fallout 4 in 3D Vision much better. I like Subnautica in VR much better.

Funny thing about Redout is that it feels so flat in VR to me (Vive Pro). The stereo effect is minimal at best. I ended up playing it in 3DVision (3DTV Play) to get a much much better stereoscopic effect even though I bought the title because it supported VR at the time. It doesn't really help to have head tracking much either so I didn't feel like I lost much but gained a lot using 3DVision instead.
If you like pod style racing.. "Vector 36" is awesome in VR but you'll need a joystick I think. Its actually a simulator of sorts too :)
I found "The Gallery" series of games great too.

I love Metro 2033 and Last Light in VR more than playing them in 3D Vision
I love Assetto Corsa in 3D Vision better than VR.
3D in Flight Simulator X is better in VR (Flyinside) than actual 3D Vision
There would never be anything as the latest Tomb Raider and GTAV in 3D Vision.
2D gaming will never be an option again and buying an AMD card will never be an option for me.
No matter what its been a great solid 8 years of 3D Vision gaming.
Ill rock this last 3D Vision enabled driver until Windows 10 delivers the final deathblow via update that breaks the 425 driver and forces us to update. As for a community created 3D software/hardware tech I honestly never see it being as good as Nvidia 3D Vision.
I also feel VR will get better and better these coming years to the point I will no longer feel sad about3D Visions death.
Fingers crossed for Grand Theft Auto 6 with a native VR option.

I didn't start this this thread, and wouldn't have initiated it, since as you mentioned, this is a 3dvision forum and not a VR forum. But this is a forum after all, and since the topic was brought up i figured i'd post my opinion. I'm pretty sure i didn't call anyone stupid, but if for some reason you think i implied that then my apologies. I know that the subtleties of communication get lost in text and it's fairly easy for people make assumptions about what you're saying.
I'm not a wild eyed enthusiast. it definitely has a long way to go before it's ideal, but i've been open minded to new tech along with it's limitations. Maybe I haven't read the room right, but it seems to me that people were being a bit harsh about it in general which is why i chimed in. I don't post here very often, unless i have something that i think will add to the discussion or benefit the community, but I'm on here constantly and have learned to value the opinions of people on here, like yourself. if i see a discussion about something that i'm interested in, involving people who's opinion i've learned to care about, then i see no fault in posting. And yes, you are absolutely correct that the experience depends entirely on the game, but no offense, you picked some of the worst games to compare. Fallout 4 and subnautica are two of the worst ports around. I was never a big fan of FO4, I bought it for VR hoping that it would add something to the game but the performance and implementation was atrocious, i'd rather play it in 3D Vision, same thing goes for subnauatica (except i actually love that game).
Unfortunately, there really aren't that many compelling experiences yet in VR, but hopefully that will change this year. Valve will eventually release the 3 games they've been working on, No man's sky looks like it will be stunning in VR, and there are a few other games to look forward to. I have to admit that i spend most of my time developing hobby projects in VR or playing Skyrim, well actually i probably spend more time modding Skyrim than actually playing it. My wife always give me shit about trying to tweak everything, she says "Are you playing settings again?" lol that about sums it up. So my reasons for getting enjoyment out of it are not going to be the same as most people. That being said, there are currently some great things to experience in VR. A properly modded Skyrim is absolutely amazing, Gorn has been a blast to play, and Accounting + was a mind bending experience on shrooms (but then again sitting still in the steam vr play space was as well). The point i was trying to make was to not dismiss it because it doesn't meet some specification you've decided was necessary, and instead give it a chance if you haven't done so. But if you have, and it's not your cup of tea, then that's totally ok.
Cheers!

Cheers!

Many thanks

Doom BFG can be made to work in VR
Monstrum has Rift support, but needs hacked for anything else. I've been holding off on playing it until a get a VR device
And fuck Sega for never following through on their official VR support in Alien Isolation.
There was also that Unity command line -vrmode. I've no idea if it does anything, I never had a way to test. W10 is required. Or was it -force-d3d11 -vrmode stereo

Cheers!
