Very disappointed with shrinking functionality
  1 / 3
I just want to express how utterly disappointed I am with nVidia for actually decreasing the number of games playable in 3D. Why on earth would they do that?! Not only did they scrap a perfectly working openGL support, they also discontinue support for older direct3D versions... Shouldn't they be working on INCREASING the number of games that work with 3D vision instead of ACTIVELY DECREASING it??? I haven't owned the 3D vision set for very long and didn't know about this until now. Today I wanted to play the original Deus Ex in 3D and did some browsing to try and make it work. And apparently it WAS possible at some point, but not anymore. Same with many other older games like System Shock 2 and Sacrifice, that all (STILL!) have a 3D rating in the nVidia software, even though they haven't been working for a long time. I am just saying what probably everbody knows already, but this really pisses me off big time. This technology had so much potential by being affordable and (formerly) almost universally functional that it's such a big letdown to see this mis-development. The one reason that convinced me to actually buy 3D Vision was the promise that it would not require a game to be specially designed to work with it and would therefore be compatible with basically any 3D game. They definitely fooled me with that. If there's a particular game you want to play in 3D you better do it while it's still supported. In a few years from now only DX11 titles will still be working.

Well 3D Vision requires DX9 games. Any games coded in DirectX lower than 9 will not work since the Auto stereoscopic doesn't kick in. But there is a way...if you can find a wrapper from DXx to DX9 you can play any game with 3D Vision. As for OpenGL, nVidia hasn't drop the ball at all. Actually they intended openGL to work win QUADRO only and lately they relased the support for GTX drivers also. The only thing is that currently there is no Opengl stereo automatic present so all the games must be coded using quad buffering. I don't see what the problem is..So far I was able to play all the games with 3D Vision starting with 2010 and present. (and big thanks here goes to Helix, ezquitara, chiri and the others) I could say the same thing about multi monitor gaming. Almost every game doesn't support surround (although lately they started to improve on this aspect). Does this stops me from playing in 3D Surround no. I create my own fixes for Surround (which I release also) so everyone can benefit. nVidia gave a solution. Is not up to them to FORCE the devs to use it.. (Although if it were up to me I would force each and every one of them to introduce stereo and surround support which aren't even that HARD to implement anyway) I know your are upset, but the community is vast and taking advantage of both techs and improving the experience for both 3D Vision and Surround. (Searching around the web will most of the time give you a solution)

Certain 7 work. 8 works. SS2 is 6.1(?) Dont quote me on that. TBH, though on older games. The profiles have a huge chance of being screwed up as well[Not sure what happened, and cant fully go into detail since I am not 100% certain but Ive found a great deal of old games that profile change improved.] SS2 has a DX9 patch which is playable on 3D Vision. Where you can run it by installing IZ3D and using it with in conjunction with 3d vision allows you to play. Again, im too lazy to find post. It was by a user named PARTOL though. -------------------------------------- The authors point is the list of 3d vision games is not uptodate and still hasnt been fixed since the NVIDIA STEREO 3D -> 3D VISION switch. Only maybe a year and a half did they take Star Wars Knights of the Old republic off that list. I am sure there are more opengl games listed. I've wrote about it a few times, I actually became a 3D Vision user because they listed support for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.... Ironic I am still cleaning up their messes...

With these wrappers the game renders to dx9 at the end of the day. ENB even has a dx8 -> dx9 wrapper that might work in some cases. In the case of Deus Ex we are not wrapping dx7 but letting the game use a newly written renderer.

Regarding Sacrifice, I had hoped I might be able to play it with openGL, but it only uses D3D. Since there don't seem to be any updated renderers for it, I will just have to trust nVidia that it used to look "Good" in 3D Vision at some point in the past and imagine what it must've been like. Another example is Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 / Mysteries of the Sith. I am currently half-way through with the expansion after having dug that classic out again some time ago. Rated "Excellent", unplayable now.

Hmm interesting that DX7 and DX8 work;)) I remember a very old post from 2-3 years ago saying that DX9 was the only official supported version or DX8 - DX9...hmmm or maybe I forgot hahahaha:)) But this is grand news! Actually I see now that the stereo 3D test in Nvpanel is done in DX8 :))

What else has happened since to further reduce support? This argument is 3 years old, and has been raised periodically for the past 3 years. Only the point about the games list is really relevant anymore.
