I've been too busy to play games for a couple of months. As a result, I'm now in a position where could probably play a game in 2D without it being such an ugly shock to my system, since I haven't played in 3D in a while. I'm thinking maybe I should take advantage of this and play a game that might not ever get fixed.
Which of these do you think makes most sense to play in 2D, taking into account reasons like:
-least likely to get fixed
-benefits least from 3D
-will have a massive performance hit in 3D even if fixed, and will struggle to maintain 60fps
-don't bother, it's a crap game
-etc.
AC3
AC4
Splinter Cell Conviction
Hitman Absolution
Rage (or does it work in 3D?)
Saints Row IV
Sniper Elite V2

Even I have the same question in mind.
Which game should I play in 2D ,for which the chances of getting fixed in 3D are the least for now.
I think Splinter Cell Conviction is the best candidate considering the current times in which Ubisoft haa not supported 3D too much.
Hitman absolution is ok I guess in 3D ..please correct me if I am wrong :(
I think I might play Gone Home, after reading this thread: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/572808/gone-home/
But it's a very short game, so I'm still taking suggestions on the above games!
During recent Steam sales Ive got Anno 2070 and Aarklash: Legacy. Both are very fun games. First is Civilization type but realtime. Second is all about amazing combat (similar to Dragon Age 2) and challenge it brings on high difficulty settings

I'd also vote for Splinter Cell. I wouldn't waste your time on Hitman Absolution, and I'm still holding out home for AC3/AC4 and SR4.
The Amnesia series would also be good candidates.
Crusader Kings 2
If you want a Game of Thrones experience set in a nerdishly accurate 'known' Feudal world. People buy it for the Game of Thrones mod because it is a perfect fit. It is. Seriously, I can't imagine Paradox themselves doing anything different to the mod.
Europa Universalis 4
If you find yourself skipping battles in Total War games and like the Grand Strategy side of things, this game is for you. It's awesome. Civilisation is a Grandstrategy lite game. EU4 is the real thing.
The Clausewitz engine that both games use, is a work of art. User and professional reviews and the multitudes of articles written about these games speak for themselves.

depends on the preference but I find first person shooters being the least amazing in 3d. Mostly to the fact that the gun looks odd when I set depth/conv. settings to my likings for the surroundings. That being said I would say any fpp you havent played is good.
RAGE is great, I really enjoyed it, just dont rush it and make all optional quests (+get the DLCs) as the game isnt that long. I have some kind of nostalgia for ID shooters since I've been playing a lot of q1/2/3+CPMA and I really do feel great about their gun mechanics so RAGE for me was really refreshing from all the generic shooters we've been getting for the past decade.
The visuals are great, despite the low-res textures up close but it didnt distract me from the gameplay itself you dont really notice them that much but the rocks and walls with broken bricks and many other examples are probably the most impressive I've seen to date (the environments in general feels like they have put a lot of work into the details).
RAGE really stood out as something different both in regard to visuals and gameplay for me and I can recommend that game to anybody that is into fpp (the enemy AI was also great which is a nice change). I wish we get more, RAGE was some kind of younger fallout brother, like it has the mechanics in place just on much smaller scale I wish next fallout would look and play like RAGE.

Hah! The old man's a Geordie but I'm very southern. (Cambridge born.) I think I was quoting Sugs when he was on the Young Ones.

@andysonofbob: I haven't really played strategy games since I was a teenager. But you talked me into Europa Universalis IV - I picked it up on the Steam sale. Damn this weak willpower! (or maybe it was the threats!)
@pirate: in regards to hitman:AC are you saying that the game itself is crap?
@tehace: Actually, I think 1st person view is my favourite, as it's more predictable. In 3rd person, there are often things which swing around way too close to the camera and break the 3D. I'm often finding myself having to dial the convergence way back to try and prevent that.
I'm not fond of the toyification you get in 1st person though when there's high convergence. Toyification looks pretty cool in 3rd person, but in 1st person it just looks like you're a tiny person carrying a huge gun, which looks stoopid . :D
I might give Rage a go. I was really disappointed when I saw the crap textures (after reading an article a year earlier about how amazing their textures were going to be). Then I was disappointed again when I saw that it doesn't use any kind of motion blur. I find motion blur a must in 1st person games (well, not a must, but I don't think they look any good without it).
But the art design is really nice, and I want to play it. So it's basically broken in 3D, is it?

I'm a big fan of stealth games, though have never played hitman (have played some Thief and Splinter Cell games, and have played Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim pretty much as stealth games (using mods to get rid of things like the [DETECTED] notification).
I'll probably try Absolution sometime, but if I'm not getting into it, I'll know to just quit rather than keep trying to like it.
What was it about it you didn't like?

Here's the review I posted on Steam:
I wish I could recommend this, I really do. I tried so hard to like it. I'm a fan of the series, but this just doesn't hit the spot. Aside from the story being throwaway crap (not that story matters much in a Hitman game), the gameplay is sorely lacking. Far too many missions have you trying to inflltrate or escape somewhere with hyper-aware AI and there are far too few assassination contracts. The few that are there show promise, but the disguise system is pretty broken, and there's often only one or two approaches that can succeed, due to the extremely rigid AI. You'll either be checking walkthroughs or restarting far more frequently than you'd like.
Maybe worth a look in a cheap sale ($15 or less), but I couldn't bring myself to finish it. At about 40 hours in (almost halfway - not because it's long, but because that's how often you'll be restarting if you want to play it stealthy), I had to admit to myself that I just wasn't having fun, as much as I wanted to like it.

Rage was not recommended as I racall but I couldnt even turn the 3d on ingame... too bad its doesnt work as doom3 was with full 3d support, there are a lot of driving which would be awesome in 3d.
I suppose it all comes down to personal preferences I didnt enjoy 3d in fpp for a long time since I havent played anythning that wasnt straight up shooting gallery (I might enjoy it more in THIEF) and I'm a bit biased because I'm in love with tpp games (like Deadspace, max payne, witcher, dmc, TR, remember me, etc) in 3d :)
