Had 3D vision for about a week now and... Thoughts about 3D vision
Right on ! In fact, I believe convergence is MORE important.
I increase convergence in Crysis until I'm literally holding the weapon ! Its so much fun /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> .
OP o0Synn0o is talking through his hat if he thinks 3D Vision isn't worth it. It was worth every penny I spent on it, even upgrading to SLI GTX 480 !
Black textures in Mafia 2 /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> . Man, there's something SERIOUSLY wrong with your System. btw, fyi there is automatic covergence in this game and so convergence cannot be manually adjusted. In fact, there is no need for it, as it is truly 3D Ready and looks amazing !!
As for your other point regarding low fps, all that's a thing of the past for me after going SLI GTX 480 /stud.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':stud:' /> .
So, if at all there is a downside to 3D Vision its that its a tad on the expensive side. But then, if you are a true PC gaming enthusiast , expense shouldn't bother you too much, otherwise you shouldn't even be here !!
Sorry, but a single GTX 470 or SLI 8800 GTX /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> , simply doesn't cut it. I was having enough fps problems with a single GTX 480. But I think, practically, that's the bare minimum or else 280 GTX SLI or 460 470 GTX SLI if 3D Vision is enabled. Maybe you should stick to your XBOX or Playstation or somethin' .
But, maybe you first set right your existing System,as I never heard of anyone getting black textures in Mafia2  .
Hey naw I got the Mafia II problem fixed there was really nothing wrong. The problem was old driver :P ...and other than that everything seems to be running better than ever. Thanks to you guys telling me about the "Convergence" setting. If it weren't for you guys that support the 3D vision community IDK what the hell I'd be doing. Probably giving my 3D vision to my brother lol. Its all mine now. My 470 SLI is amazing. Im getting massive gains since the update and blows my 8800 gtx out of the water. Im downloading a few games now and going to play some more, and as for the PS3 and XBOX my gaming pc eats those consoles as a snack. Ill let the kids play with that.

PS. Nvidia really needs to put out there that you can play around with "Convergence" it really makes a BIG difference. I was only messing with the depth control and now I work with both and get amazing results. Thanks guys.

it depends of what screen you are using
in the "3d mode" on the Asus 3d screen you can bump up the contrast from default 70 to max 100
also you can higher the brightness/contrast/saturation in Nvidia control anel (adjust video color settings) and use "with the NVIDIA settings"

so your statement isnt true
bump up some and you doesnt lose anything with BluRay 3D with the glasses on

also that MafiaII has black textures isnt true
MAFIAII rocks in 3d!

also you can higher the brightness/contrast/saturation in Nvidia control anel (adjust video color settings) and use "with the NVIDIA settings"

so your statement isnt true

bump up some and you doesnt lose anything with BluRay 3D with the glasses on

also that MafiaII has black textures isnt true

MAFIAII rocks in 3d!

For 3rd person games I usually take my glasses off and increase convergence till the character is screen depth, meaning he/she is not doubled. Then everything that is behind your character is pop out.
I am also new to 3D and although I am quite pleased with it, I also have problems with getting the settings rights. In Tomb Raider Underworld, I have tried the above, and I am sorry but what is behind the character does not really pop out, it rather hurt your eyes by not being superposed properly (I guess the images must be too far apart). Yet the game is rated as excellent for 3D.

Overall the problem is that while I have been playing arround with convergence there does not seem to be one setting that work for all distances. Thus if you get the convergence right for very close object it is not quite right for far away objects and vice-versa. The character (e.g. Lara) produces ghost doubles of itself at a certain distance, I fix this with changing convergence, then when the camera gets closer or further, the ghost doubles reappear. I feel it is a bit better in 110 HZ rather than 120 Hz, although this may be my imagination, and of course with less depth the problem is less. But in any case it remains. Is there a much better way to address this?

I'm actually playing TR:U right now. It's got some strangeness to it for sure. Very distant objects are drawn at the wrong depth and, every once in awhile, the floor will get drawn at the wrong depth and make it look like Lara is floating. Lara herself seems to work just fine, though.

I can't quite follow exactly what you are seeing, though. If you crank the convergence up too high then close objects will get doubled but lowering it back down again fixes that problem. Are these doubles actually as bright as the main object or are they faint doubles? Is there just one double on one side or is there a double on each side?

Honestly, it sounds like your glasses aren't even on. Have you gotten the 3D to work with other games? Did you do the medical test thing in the driver setup?

P.S. Could you please start another topic for this? Posting in a six-month dead topic having nothing to do with the specific game you are asking about isn't likely to work all that well.

I have already posted a new topic on this (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=197928&st=0&p=1223956&fromsearch=1&#entry1223956. Still it looks like I got an answer faster in a 'dead topic'!

First, I can assure you the glasses are on and that I don't have the medical problem. I do see TRU in 3D and I can see pop outs with the The Nvidia demo they provide with the disc. And it's easy to see the difference by just pushing the button on the glasses and switiching between 2D and 3D.

What I see in TRU (but the problem is not limited to TRU) are indeed 2 faints ghosts on the left and the right of the main object (e.g. Lara). This I think simply arise from the convergence not being set right (the doubled images that create the 3D effect are too far apart), and I can fix it by playing with convergence. However the problem is that one particular setting of convergence seems to be adequate only for a certain depth of the objects (I am not talking about the depth setting of the 3D, but how far the objects in the game are from the player). Thus I can indeed get Lara absolutely perfect at a certain distance, but the 'ghost images' (or whatever they should be called) reappear when the camera move closer to her or farther away from her. Plus all the object that are closer to you than she is don't appear right, to the point that very close ones (e.g. floor or wall that come very close to the camera) hurt the eyes instead of popping out (because the doubled images that create the 3D effect are too far apart). Again, I can get these very close objects right by changing the convergence but then further away objects (including Lara) start to have 'ghost images again. In short there does not seem to be a right setting of convergence that is the right one for all objects whatever their distance (if close objects are set properly, far away ones are not and vice-versa). Reducing the 3D depth setting diminishes the problem (as there is less difference between close and far away object), but do not solve it entirely (plus it would be a shame of having to keep depth et a minimum all the time).

If this was just for TRU, I wouldn't worry, but even with the 3D demo of Nvidia I have this problem. Plus it seems a problem that should have a solution, as (so far that I can tell) it is simply based on the fact that the changes in the distance between the 'doubled image' as a function of their depth in the game is not being done properly. I mean, the distance between the doubled image has to change as a function of their depth (and that can easily be seen when looking at it in 2D), only it seems not to do it in the right amount.

I am not sure this is clear, sorry if it is not.
