GTX 970 4K 3D VIsion gaming success with LGUB850V Passive TV

So let me get this straight.
You accidentally got high resolution 3D gaming working, something Nvidias customers have been asking for them to implement for at least 3 years, just by pure fluke using EDID overrides and plugging the same TV into two different gfx card outputs?
WTF are Nvidia doing all day???
Why are they holding back this 3D tech for their paying customers?
Why wasn't this incorporated into 3DTV Play yesrs ago? Why is it still not in 3DTV Play?
What benefit could Nvidia possibly get from holding back on this?
Surely they would sell more cards? Does it step on the toes of Nvidia 3D Pro? (whatever sorry excuse of features the pro version probably gets you)
Nvidia this is lame on so many levels. Shame on you!

Double cable connection is NOT required (ignore initial discussions in this thread) - only single HDMI 2.0 connection to preferred HDMI input on 4K 3D TV (like input supporting UHD Deep Color) is necessary.
NVIDIA should absolutely embrace this capability - since it has been working for months now!

Could they care any less? Lmao.
You couldn't make it up.
The way it's meant to be played? lol. It's just salt in the wound!
It's such a waste. 3D is mega, nvidias tech is mega yet they cripple it by refusing, against consumer requests, to update it.
They would sell more cards and they would restore faith in the community, who are after all fixing all the games, for free, for nvidia.
They must have some crazy people making decisions at nvidia, who in their right mind but not take the 3DTV play 720p limit off?
720p for crying out loud! They are making 8k screens now and nvidia think the way we should be 3D gaming is at 720p!
'The way it meant to be played' slogan has a missing question mark on the end IMO.
It should be 'the way it's meant to be played?'
It's obviously a rhetorical question because the answer is NO, this is NOT the way it's meant to be played at all!

Pretty cool, hopefully one day NVidia updated 3DPlay 4K for simplicity's sake. I have yet to try this but I am in the process of putting together a living room gaming PC. Anyone have any experience getting this to work on a Sony XBR 900A or other Sony 4K sets?

I also have Sony XBR X900A - no, the joker18 EDID mod will NOT work with this Sony set (see prior discussions in this topic thread). Note that X900A is not fully HDMI 2.0 compliant - it only supports interleaved 3840x2160 @30fps (not 60fps). innuendo1231b created an experimental EDID for this set (thanks, effort is appreciated), but I could not get it to work. Later Sony models migrated to active display, not passive 3D display (different display timing for active vs passive TVs).
New related topic: Importance of good (and short) HDMI cable
Over time, I noticed intermittent periods of increased ghosting on my display. After some investigation, I discovered that my HDMI cable lacked the appropriate bandwidth for the EDID mod interleaved signal, even though it was a high-quality cable advertised as supporting 4K and high-speed HDMI. I replaced this cable with a more suitable 4K (true 18 Gbps) cable, and the increased but intermittent ghosting disappeared! innuendo1231b (the original EDID mod creator - thanks) discusses this topic a little in posting #96...

Does anyone know a fix for getting 5.1 surround sound working with the EDID hack over HDMI? At my old house, I was using optical out and the 5.1 worked fine, but now, using HDMI, my only selection in the config is 2.0 sound when I install the alternate monitor driver. 5.1 is only available if I leave the default generic monitor.

I don't think TV supports 5.1 input from HDMI, Windows will only see stereo capability.
It only works when you send the sound in a 5.1 capable receiver.
As my receiver can't do 4:4:4 croma at 4k@60hz I chose to run 2 HDMI cables one going directly to the TV and the other one to the receiver.

Nvidia might have updated 3DTV Play?
I connected a 39 inch Seiki that I acquired and although it's 2D, it does have 3D data bytes in it's EDID. Anyhow, it's only a 4K 30Hz panel, but Nvidia lets me select checkerboard at that resolution/refresh via HDMI connection. (not that it works, TV is not 3D capable)

I should have clarified... I have it connected to a receiver that is 5.1 capble and 4:4:4 4k@60Hz. It works perfectly without the EDID change, but when I apply the Acer EDID, the option for 5.1 sound disappears and I'm only left with 2.0.

You can use monitor asset manager from entech Taiwan to look at the edid you are using in the registry. if it only has data bytes for 2 channel stereo, there's your problem.
if you are not watching movies, use an optical cable if you have the option on your sound card/motherboard.
other option is to merge data banks/extension from EDIDS
also do you have nvidias audio driver installed?

I'll have to check into the EDID... how hard is it to merge? Is no one else using the Asus that was posted using 5.1?
I was using an optical, but now I'm using the only optical input on my receiver for the TV.
I didn't know there was a separate Nvidia audio driver, where is that located? All I see when I search on nvidia's site is the gameready driver that I already have.

Never mind, I did find an hdmi audio driver here http://www.nvidia.com/object/hdmi_audio_xp_vista_win7_1.00.00.59.html, but it was last updated in 2009. Is that the one you're referring to?
The Nidia Audio driver is included in the driver package. Some people choose the custom install option and do not install it or GeForce experience.

Ah, I see... no, I just got it from geforce experience and I wouldn't have unchecked it. Also, it probably wouldn't be working with the default monitor if I didn't install them.

I don't know which Edid you applied but if it is the one I made, It was done by merging my original edid From my 55UC970 with a Acer edid.
Perhaps the solution would be for you to apply the Acer extension to your receiver Edid?
