Thanks to dracomd's hint to rename the .exe of Two Worlds II (see) I wondered which other game suffers from problems with water surfaces causing irritating effects. Sims 3 is one of them and so can be corrected by this way...
- Water surfaces: While no problem in the first version of Sims 3 later updates and addons caused irritating effects around water surfaces. Now there is a solution:
Rename the exe-file of the latest addon that is used to run the game (e.g. TS3EP03.exe in ...\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Die Sims 3 Late Night\Game\Bin) to ofdr.exe. Manually adjust the convergence settings when running the game.
Attention: Do not start the game using the launcher but directly with the new ofdr.exe. For updates You will have to rename the file back to it's original name.
- Visual effects: The compatibility instruction tells You to use low settings. This will remove disturbing bloom effects but also nice details as chimney smoke, breakers, fishes, etc. So start the game using the highest level for visual effects. When the game runs You will notice some disturbing bloom effects. Now change in the options visual effetcs to low and accept. The disturbing effects disappear but also the details. Now change again the settings to the highest level and accept: the disturbing bloom effects won't appear but You will get back the nice details /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Using these tricks I would rate Sims 3 as "good". Of course You will have the usual problems with the mouse pointer at wrong depth. But adjusting the convergence helps.

The same tricks will also work with
The Sims Medieval
- rename TSM.exe in ...\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\Game\Bin\ to ofdr.exe and start the game with this file (not with the launcher). Now water surfaces won't cause problems any more.
- use the high/low/high level trick mentioned above for visual effetcs to remove bloom effects.
I wonder if Nvidia will rlease a profile that solves the problems with the water surfaces so we don't have to rename the exe-file any more...
Update: The driver 270.51 now offers a profile for Sims Medieval - but the OFDR-Profile works much better! Seems to me that Nvidia simply used their old profile for Sims 3 which causes problems with the water surfaces. So I still would recommend my solution. You also can set everything to maximum (also ligthing and shadows) without problems.

Just discovered that renaming the exe-files for Sims 3 and Sims Medieval also allows You to run the games in windowed mode with S3D!
On the one hand it is good to see that a suitable profile can improve the functionality of a game in many points. On the other hand it is quite disappointing that Nvidia obviously doesn't offer us always the best profile for a game.
Another reason that there should be a tool that allows users to create a profile by themselves. Or You may try to rename Your games to every other exe-file that has it's own profile to see if that improves the S3D for that game...
If You like Sims (there don't seem to be too many here in this forum /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> ) You may also be interested in

Why dont you just run 270.51 drivers? We have a Sims profile in that driver, and you can run that game in a Window.

Because the profiles of 270.51 for Sims 3 and Sims Medieval still don't solve the problems with water surfaces that make the games almost unplayble in S3D when chars are near or within water surfaces:
Sims 3:

Sims Medieval:

Renaming the games so that the OFDR-profile is used solves this problem:
Sims 3:

Sims Medieval:

I can understand that the profile for Sims 3 doesn't provide this fix as the problems with water surfaces resulted from later updates and addons.
But I can't understand why the profile for Sims Medieval has the same problem. These problems with water surfaces appeared already in the release version of the game. And there is obviously a setting in the OFDR-profile that solves problems like that. So why not in the profile for Sims Medieval and Sims 3?
Apropos windowed mode... Why are the manual convergence settings locked in Google Earth? The fixed settings make the landscape look very flat and cause a lot of ghosting /huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

To prevent issues with water surfaces and bloom effects in
The Sims 3 Pets
You can use the following tweaks:
- rename the file TS3W.exe in the installation folder of the main game (not the pets addon!) e.g. ...\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin to aion.exe and start the game by double clicking this file (don't use the game launcher!).
- use the high/low/high level trick mentioned above for visual effetcs to remove bloom effects.
