I just came onto a large amount of cash and I'd like to 3d game but I don't know if this is good 3d or if I should wait. I have a new 9800GTX+ which should be enough right? I plan on playing AC, AC2, Valve titles (TF2, L4D, HL2), and any notable titles that look amazing in 3D. I researched a bit and it looks good but is it worth the 600 dollars for the new monitor and kit? Can I dual monitor using the new monitor by any chance when not using 3d? Is the 3d scene growing or dieing?

Also, with the 120hz requirements, does the size matter? Could I get a larger or smaller LCD monitor that is 120hz or possibly an LCD HDTV that is 120hz?

This is a great time to get into 3D. Many games are compatible although you do take a performance hit when using 3D. So certainly Source games like HL2 and L4D will work great with a 9800 but newer titles like say Metro 2033 are out of the question. You should be ok though for older titles. Dual monitor should be ok but only one monitor will work for games.
Its not just 120Hz that makes a display compatible. It has to be 3D-ready as well. To make matters more confusing there are a bunch of HDTVs that claim 120Hz or 240Hz but its bogus. They do not accept a 120Hz signal, they merely interpolate between frames to supposedly provide smoother motion. Marketing BS. Be sure to check the Nvidia 3D Vision requirements page to see what displays are compatible. If you want something bigger than 24" you may want to look at the Mitsubishi DLPs or even a projector.

Oh man I can only feel what it could be like playing a 3D game on a 100" projector screen :P
I think for now I'll just get the 24" display and save money to create an awesome 3D gaming room in my unused theater room. That is if I am satisfied enough.

Two 480's should do. I have one and it is only enough if you drop the graphical settings in the game. If you want some higher settings you need more horsepower.

I'm used to playing on low/medium anyways since I suddenly upgraded since my 8500gt fried so playing 3D on medium settings won't bother me at all. 2 months from now then I can start looking for a new card.

if u have to run low-medium settings now, then don't bother buying 3d until u have decent cards.

Yeah, in all honesty, my 480 is even struggling with keeping frames up. Two would probably work great, but I would rather not fork out another 500 bucks just to play 3d games...

The "power-under-the-hood-issue" is why I went for the Acer H5360. As it is "only" HD-Ready, eg. 1280x720 p, the requierements for the hardware are not toooo harsh. With my single GTX 285 I can run Just Cause 2 with max. Details, Bokeh filter off, CUDA-Water on and 2x AA with smooth framerates in 3D, AND I have a 60" image. :-) If I would go for full HD, my single GTX 285 would be too weak, but with the acer, it is enough for most games out there. And in a year or so, I'll upgrade for the revised 4XX-Series... Maybe a GTX 475? :D
Ah, and to answer your question: YES, it is definetely worth the money. Going 3D was the best gaming-related thing happening to me in the last couple of years. You'll never want to go back to 2d-3d... :D

Good news, you only need 2 x 9800GTX, and since 9800GTX=GTS250, hopefully g92b chip, you have the bare minimum , notice how much better it is than gtx285:

Acer 720p is very good. Gain 2.0 screen or paint is highly advised, then some good quality foil to block brightness in 2d. Later you can keep one of the cards for physx = most welcome in 3d. Unlike 285 which is a hog.

Chris vsync is on by default when using N3d it seems with the drivers. yes no screen tear but also a game can drop below 40 fps and then kind revert to 30fps vsync even in 120hz.
Plenty of games on my 280 runs like a friends on a 480 (tested L4d and Dragon age) as vysnc nerfs the fps by accident so both card tended to spit 40 fps in DA 1080p max settings and 50 in L4D BC2 is where a 280 fell over even at optomised settings for online play. 480 could hold 40+ fps 280 would drop below 30. 480 could also add more aa-af and still not fall below 40 fps.
So if you want mainly hassle free 3d fermi x1 will do, if you want the best fps possible you will ne fermi x2. and for 3dx3 probably 3-4 fermi's in some games.
All the older games are fine on a Gt200 (bar crysis) newer more complex games like BC2 metro etc need fermi x1 or GT200 Sli.
The onyl issue with the Acre DLP 720p 3d models is the bulb cost for me (I already run a 100hz 1080p model) so for tose wnating to jump I would recommend the 1080p 23.6 rev 2 models bar the fact you do need GT200 power for most games at that level and a GT400 for a few demanding titles if you don't want to nerf GFX settings in 3d. I would also note at 1080p 3d many games go well over 512 VRAM even with low AA_AF so you should look at 1GB models for 1080p.
