No, heat is no issue at all. I was running a tad hot when I was running them only with a CorsairTX 850 W. No issues at all since upgrading to the CorsairHX 1000 W, which you already have. Your case also appears to be pretty decent. I also had some space problems, especially since the Zotac card is quite large because of the attached Zalman fan. I solved the problem by installing the Zotac Card in PCI-e 1 slot and the Leadtek card in the 3rd PCI-e slot.
No problems at all after that and all my games run blazingly fast with not too much heat.
Stop having so many doubts and just go for it.
You won't regret it !
The 3d pcie slot is only x8 not x16 though isn't it? Will that matter, thought it would /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

You said you got one 480 then another later on ( well i assumed that )
did most games run fine with just one, not super new ones but like most?
Or did you need that second one.

Might just get two 460s and if they don't work out, i'll sell to them my friend who
buys any thing. I mean some games must run ok with just them two cards?
From what I've been reading some of the older games look better then most
new ones and their requirements are much lower.

If you can, don't talk me out of buying two 460s or i will go insane.

If any one can assure me that two 460s with a projector that will be on 720p
will run most games fine i'll greatly appreciate it.

One 460 will run any game in 3d @ 720p let alone two!!. If it were me? i'd get the 460's then wait for the 580's which will be out in the new year. Two 460's is on average 20% faster than one 480. Make sure you get the 1gb versions too.

Yeah, k i'm going to get two 460s and just spend like $400 on them rather then 1k on two 480s /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

There can't be that much of a performance increase using 480s over 460s.
Well hopefully not a noticeable increase.

If any one else is going to suggest i get 480s i'm going to slap you, i'm not changing my mind any more.

Yeah, most games ran fine on 1, with the occasional fps drop in graphic-intensive areas, which was irritatingly happening more and more frequently as newer games came out. Then, 3D Vision finally decided me into going SLI with GTX 480.
No, it doesn't matter in real-world gaming if the 3rd Slot is running at x8.
I tested it out and there was no difference in Benchmark tests and games in general.
At the risk of getting slapped  I can tell you that it's a bad decision to go for SLI 460s. Even if the 580 GTX comes out by December, which I sincerely doubt, given nVidia's past track record, it will be slower than my present SLI 480 GTX /stud.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':stud:' /> . I can safely tell you that I'm not going to upgrade my System for the next 2 years at least.
But, you my friend, will have to upgrade within a year as SLI GTX 460 simply will not cut it, unless you like playing at resolutions of 800x600 /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> .
So, what will it be ? $ 400 now and $ 1000+ within a year OR $ 1000 now and relax and enjoy just gaming for the next 2 years !!??!
I'm sorry if you're going insane, but in my honest opinion, SLI 460 GTXes is the WRONG decision, whichever way you look at it, gaming-wise and economy-wise.

Hows your face? /stud.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':stud:' />

Fine i'll get one 480 now then and just play around with it
and if i see the need i'll whack another one in.

Its just so hard to believe what people say when one says it will be
fine and another person says it won't be >.< I guess i can't go wrong
with the better setup though.

If anyone else suggests any thing that conflicts with my current choice to go with two 480s you will not live to tell the tale

I had a 470. Then I upgraded to the 460's in SLI. I saw a big improvement in 3D. We have the same MB too. Going the dual 460 route is cheaper and cooler too.

shr@pnel's setup is killer and I agree 3D with SLI 480's is amazing. I suggest shr@pnel's Zotec with the Zalman cooler or one with an Accelero Xtreme Plus. These 3-slot coolers keep 480's cool and quiet!

@ Shr@pnel:

Whilst i do agree with most of what you said, this part is complete rubbish "But, you my friend, will have to upgrade within a year as SLI GTX 460 simply will not cut it, unless you like playing at resolutions of 800x600"

You have no idea what you are talking about if you think 2 460's will not cut it within a year or so. He is gaming at 720p, but even if it were 1080p i would personally guarantee he'll play all games maxed out in 3d for the next 2 years at least.

Also am i right in thinking that you claim that your GPU's stayed cooler because you upgraded the wattage of a psu? Again, absolute nonsense.
