Alienware 17 R4 with UHD panel connected with external Asus PG278QR 3D monitor - will it work?
First of all I am the old lohan-dude who's been around here for ages. Just encountered some problems when trying to merge my Geforce account with a Nvidia account (hence the name-extension). BTT: I am about to buy a GTX1080-equipped Alienware 17 R4 laptop with the UHD panel option. Mainly I want to use it with the Asus ROG PG278QR 3D Vision monitor when I am not at home (the ASUS monitor is placed at my girlfriend's apartment). For the connection I want to use the Alienware's Display-Port. Currently I don't see any possible issues but I would appreciate your thoughts on this question. In the past Nvidia Optimus often has been a big issue when trying this scenario as you couldn't enable 3D Vision due to Optimus being in effect. But as far as I know G-Sync generally means no Optimus (due to the direct GPU-display connection). Also it seems even if Optimus is supported you can disable it by now by pressing some keys. Also I heard somewhere that the newer Alienware laptops don't feature Optimus anymore. Alienware offers the UHD panel with and without G-Sync. Long story short: Will I be able to connect the Alienware 17 R4 UHD with the ASUS ROG PG278QR for using it as an external 3D Vision monitor and if yes is the G-Sync version of the UHD panel mandatory or would it also work with the non G-Sync version.

Just gave it a try using my Alienware M17 R5 and it worked flawlessly so I am expecting no problems doing this scenario with the Alienware 17 R4
