Why does everyone here pre-order?
Seems like a crazy practice to me! I completely agree with this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/6863-Previewed-Preordered-Prescrewed Warning Swearing!

Bioshock Infinite £23.99 inc Xcom, Bioshock 1 and Civ5. Now I'd call that an amazing deal whatever day it is. £24 to experience a fantastic game straight away, also to finally play the new xcom (the old titles were some of my favourite games) and also to have huge battles in Civ5 with a friend. £23.99... I went swimming today, cost €16.50. Cinema the other night? €13. So I would call the 50-100 hours+ of gaming at £23.99 an absolute bargain ;-)

Heh! Brilliant :) @Foreverseeking I preordered Xcom so got Civ5 (which I already had) and who hasn't got Bioshock or picked it up for pennies when it's been on offer multiple times before? Despite already having all of those games, £24 is clearly a great deal for a game. And if you hadn't already got those games, it would be an exception to the preorder rule. Unfortunately, many just ship with an additional gun skin or xp buffs. For me, having all thoses games. The preorder is still a gamble, with little return, and one that wouldn't have paid off.
Unfortunately, many just ship with an additional gun skin or xp buffs. For me, having all thoses games. Right now it's 96/100 on metacrtic with 40 reviews. i think this gamble was a safe one ;-) As for normal pre-purchase, it seems silly to me to spend £30 on a game full stop when you can wait a little and pick it up for much less. I normally prefer to wait till a game is throughaly patched up before playing it. But, considering the reviews, the deal (it was a sweet deal) and the fact Ken Levine had obviously put so much heart love and soul into this game, I thought I would support it. Too many generic first person dull as hell shooters, and I would like to change that, and the only way I know how is with my wallet. Shame it doesnt support 3D, but hopefully my second playthrough will be in 3D after some clever sod has modded the game.

I never pre-order. Being a 3d enthusiast and pre-ordering is disaster in the making.

Me neither. Bioshock could get 100% reviews,be the best game in the world, but it would still be a waste of my money because I can't play games in 2D anymore. My loss, I know. I have read a few posts of people hoping to get a refund for their key because they can't play games in 2D either. Why then, for 3D only people like me, run the risk of preordering?

I must admit I preordered Tomb Raider just because I got such a great deal on it over at GMG, around $30, and I almost preordered Bioshock: Infinite, I don't have Xcom or Civ5 ... but then again I'm not really interested in them. If I was I might have jumped on it like foreverseeking. I think TR was the very first PC game I've ever preordered, usually it takes a really great deal or a game with incredible roots. I recently preordered Luigi's Mansion for the 3ds, loved the original on the GameCube plus now it's in 3D. But there's always my weakness for horror games, especially Silent Hill ... I'd preorder that regardless. What can I say? I have a soft-squishy-bludgeoned-disturbed-spot for that series. :D

The only game I've ever pre-ordered was Tomb Raider 2013 - and that was after players in other parts of the world were already giving feedback on how good the 3D was. Not a bad discount. Patience really must be a virtue for gamers as waiting for 'professional' reviews is generally fairly useless: they rarely go into or even cover the aspects that I'm most interested in, seemingly go out of their way to not say anything bad unless its a complete 'train wreck' and generally parrot the developers marketing hype. So I normally wait for other users that have similar tastes in games to report how they like/don't the game and decide from there.

Fortunately for us we aren't in the 'first' time zone so there is always hope to get in on a preorder deal, like the Bioshock one, if someone reports that it's great in 3D, or completely avoid it if it isn't, like the Bioshock one.
