Do I have enough GPU power for 3D? Evga Gtx 460 sb 1 gb in SLI
HI, I am just curious if my older pc will be able to play all current games in 3d. Computer spex below.
i7 950 3.2 gig
6 gigs OCZ Reaper Tri Channel 1600mhz 6-8-6-24 1.65v
evga gtx 460 1gb sc in sli
750w corsair tx psu
creative sound card
asus sabertooth x58 mobo
24 " lg led monitor 1080p " non 3d"
The games i play on the daily are , battle field 3 , trine 2 , civ v , counter strike source , batman " the new one " , bad company 2 , cod black ops , arma 2 , americas army 3, mafia 2 , etc..
I really have been wanting to get a 24" led monitor that is able to create 3d images, but i built this pc in 2010, and my system already hardly runs battlefield 3 in ultra, so im just afraid of buying the monitor.
I'm just curious if I will be able to have really good depth with my current set up, or should i think about replacing my current sli set up with something more 500/600 series before i purchase a monitor, and glasses ? I have read that 3d cuts your fps in half, because its splitting it for each eye or something ? I understand what they are talking about , but they also were mentioning that you needed more gpu power to run games in 3d, as opposed to 2d. All of the information i have received is from google searches, and reading forums, so its still pretty limitied.

Maybe not at high settings but I definetly think you can play all of those at 1920x1080 3d as long as you don't run into any sli issues. Maybe not battlefield 3 unless somethings changed that game runs horribly. I don't think you need to upgrade yet.
460's are good card's but very power hungry. They are just power hungry versions of the 570 imo which are 3rd best card.

Are you saying i would have run my games on low, to mid settings with no AA ? Thats a deal breaker for me =(
O ya, im really, really wanting to play trine 2 in 3d, but as of now my pc gets almost 60 solid fps in that game , I would really hate to have to play games at 30-40 fps, I can feel the difference below 60 fps, and i really dont like it. If im getting 50 fps in a game, and i cant get 60 out of it , I turn said game off.

No man, you're good to go. I've got 460's in SLI and run most games in 3D with max settings. Some games may require a little tweaking but mostly everything runs just fine. Actually I've found that SLI is almost a must for 3D as in many cases 460 SLI run a game better in 3d than one 580. Of course how a game supports SLI might change the outcome but most games nowadays support SLI very well.
