3D Glasses - Different Types For noobs like me
I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered previously, but the FAQ and google didnt bring up the answer I am in need of. I recently purchased a GTX 470 for my computer. I love it and the red/cyan analygraph 3D glasses that came with it. I was interested immediately and I set it up and saw the nVidia 3D test screen. What I want to know is, do these plain 3D glasses make 3D games work, or do I need the electronic ones with the IR transmitter? Also, how much quality difference would there be between the two?

Thank you in advance

I THINK there are anaglyph (the red/cyan glasses) drivers out there for games, so you could get it to work probably. However, Anaglyph has several big drawbacks, including the lack of good color reproduction. So while you may not really need the glasses and transmitter combo, I would HIGHLY suggest it personally if you really want to see "true" 3d that doesn't have annoying issues like anaglyph and color. Thats really the biggest difference quality wise between the two iirc.

Nvidia's anaglyph mode is how I "tested" my interest in 3d, before deciding to buy the real deal. I used cardboard glasses from one of my kids's anaglyph dvd's (spykids I think /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )You do get a sense of how the depth can be, which I loved, but of course the colors are wonky and stressful. you can set up anaglyph mode with any nvidia 3d card (8800gt and up). Just install the driver, and use some cheap ass glasses, and play all your games.

Heh, but try playing Halo pc multiplayer in anaglyph 3d.... Red vs. Blue Halo...everyone is purple LOL! .. yeah thats when I decided to buy 3d vision.

Trying out the anaglyph glasses were the reason I bought the 3D Vision kit. Fired up L4D and was impressed with the sense of depth.

When the 3D Vision kit came and I tried that it was in a whole other league completely, one of the best things I've ever bought. /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
