Helifax Doom 3 BFG 3D Vision Surround blog fix - still working?
I just wanted to begin with Doom 3 BFG in 3D Vision Surround and was very happy to find a fix on the blog done by helifax that not only covered 3D Vision but also the Surround aspect. Since I also want to play it with the High Definition 2.7 texture pack I was even more excited to find that the fix is also mod-friendly.
Unfortunately when I try to launch the game using helifax wrapper it doesn't even start (no mods installed so far, just the game and helifax wrapper).
When I try to launch it I get a pop-up window for helifax wrapper with an OK-Button. After clicking the OK-button I get the message "Doom 3 doesn't work anymore".
Can anyone (maybe helifax) confirm that the fix isn't working anymore? Or am I missing something?
Also I found various steps that have to be done to make Doom 3 really work in 3D Vision. Does the fix already cover those steps ( a lot of manual fiddling with cfg-files, ini-mods, lines that have to be changed via ingame command line). I am asking because the fixes readme file just states that the wrapper fully enables 3D Vision and the usual hotkeys for separation and convergence.
So my question is: What needs to be done to enable the full 3D Vision Surround experience for Doom 3?
Currently I am using driver 361.75, also tested it with 361.43 (same results).
Anyone who can help me out?

For Doom 3 BFG you don't need the wrapper.
For Doom 3 Classic you do need to wrapper. You don't need to modify any cfg files or such.
3D Surround is supported but the game doesn't maintain the Aspect Ratio correcly. It stretches the image across 3 screens. I don't know of any fix for 3D surround.
I would go with original Doom 3 ONLY if you want to mod the hell out of it and use the Ultimate Doom Mod (can't remember the exact name) that adds a ton of graphical things to the game. Also, you need to have FPS counter as high as possible here to prevent the horizontal parallax effect.
For 3D Surround I would go with Doom 3 BFG if you just want to play the game:)

Thanks for the quick answer D-Man. I am speaking of Doom 3 BFG and well you're right...now I see that helifax wrapper is indeed for Doom 3 only. Thanks for the clarification!
I know that Doom 3 BFG has 3D Support implemented and that quad buffer works just fine with 3D Vision but I would like to know how I can increase depth and especially convergence which seems not possible via ingame 3D settings. I saw a lot of confusing steps that need to be done not only covering depth and convergence but also repositioning of the gun and stuff like that.
Any idea?

Did I get you right that in case of the BFG Edition (the one that I want to play) 3D Vision Surround should work out of the box?
Also did I get it right that the High Def Pack that is also available for the BFG Edition doesn't work in conjunction with 3D Vision (Surround) Support?

- Last I remember yes, BFG should support Surround out of the box if I remember right but the hud is spanned rather than centered.

- I don't really know this one sorry:(

Just gave it a try! Using quad buffer the game works in 3D Vision out of the box (although I have no clue how to increase convergence and depth since NVidia control seems to be disabled by the implemented 3D Support).
When switching to Surround the game runs flawlessly in Surround but unfortunately 3D doesn't work anymore. So in Surround trying to use quad buffer the game will be stuck in 2D. :-(

Important commands I found there:
seta stereoRender_interOccularCentimeters "20"
seta stereoRender_deGhost "0"
seta stereoRender_convergence "90"
I have the old version of the game because of the mod support, so I have no idea how those values will look.
It seems Doom 3 BFG is not playable in 3D Vision Surround. Not only did it disable 3D when switching to Surround for me I also found a guy on YouTube who was stating that he tried to get the game to run in proper 3D Vision for almost a year (which sounds a little bit too extreme for me) and if there is one thing he learned from all that then it would be that Surround definitely kills the 3D which otherwise works quite well for Doom 3 BFG even with the High Def mod.
