Starcraft 2 used to play great in 3D.
But after the latest patches from Blizzard, 3D Vision in SC2 is almost broken.
The crosshair is not 3D anymore, 3D vision switches on and off during gameplay, the popup window on the left, when some game character is talking to you is broken too.
When you load an older single player save game, it loads automatically an older version of the .exe ,and everything is OK, but since patch 1.3 SC2 3D is broken.
Very sad indeed.

In Blizzard's defence, Starcraft is a competitive E-sport that most professional gamers play on low graphics anyways. They aren't particularly concerned with 3D, and the game itself was not designed primarily for it's graphical fidelity.

well if blizzard aren't particularly concerned with 3D why do they have there own steroscopic 3d sliders in game options seems a bit strange they go to the trouble of adding that and not be concerned as not any other game ive played goes with the bother of adding slidders, but i see your point anyway

I have had SC2 for about 3 months and it has never been fixed for me.
However I find the game only jumps between 2D and 3D in campaign mode and runs far better during skirmish or online play. It is a real shame about the mouse icon. BadONE mentions the popup window on the left is screwy but when it is screwy the mouse icon is 3D! I would rather the popu remained screwy if it meant a perminantly fixed curser! Also if you select various protoss air units, the mouse works temporarily.
I mentioned this in the Battlenet forum and the blizzard guy seemed supportive but I dont think he was the right dude for the gig. Therefore, is there a way of submitting a bug ticket in game? If so, can I suggest we all take the 5 minutes it would take to fill it in mentioning when and how to get the mouse icon to work?
@ Heedless_onE
True. However according to Blizzard, 50% of the people who bought the game have never played it multiplayer!

The save file alone doesn't do the job. There are a lot of data, which are stored together with the .exe file of the previous version, about 150 Mb. Furthermore the data seem to be connected with my account, but I am not quite sure of that.

Its only really the mouse that is broken in SC2. The maps of the main campaign are generally fine, I replayed a couple of weeks ago and well over 3/4 of the single player campaign maps stayed in 3D mode (apart from when communication window in left popped up)
Multiplayer has always been stable for me. Tower defence is a great fun in 3D.

In singleplayer the left side portrait window got fixed too, but the short flickering issue, when this window is activated still remains, but seems to be fixable on the driver side.

Just got 3dvision and tried Starcraft. The cut-scenes that introduce the campaign are 2D, fine. Then I go to the first map, and I can tell 3D is enabled because the cursor is far away from the rest of the map, but no elements on the map are rendered in 3d. Not the units, not the scenery, nothing. I confirmed by taking the glasses off: the cursor is drawn in 2 different places for 3d effect, but everything else looks just fine. I tried various settings for depth and conversion but again they only impacted the cursor.
I'll try some other games but so far I have yet to have a good experience in any game. Will probably return all the 3d gear tomorrow.

It is one of the most stunning games in 3D, something must be wrong with your system. Did you use the cable, that came with the monitor? What other games did you try? What are your specs?

Thanks BadOne. I eventually noticed that if I alt-tabbed out, and then back in, the rest of the map would render in 3D. Something may have broken in a recent patch -- if you Google for it you'll find a bunch of players reporting that 3D has become unreliable especially in campaign mode.
I also found a game that always worked properly for me: Crysis 2. Definitely a well done experience there.
That said, my original concern stands. While this technology occasionally delivers stunning results, for me it is just not ready for prime time yet. Too many of the games I play for real either aren't supported at all (Deus Ex, Dragon Age); or have issues (Borderlands, WoW); or couldn't really benefit from 3D anyway (Torchlight, Duels of the Planeswalkers.)
I would have kept it just for the games it did work with, except it forced me to a monitor size I found too small. These past couple years I've been using a 40" LCD as my main monitor (I have a deep worktable so it can sit far back.) I've come to love having that much work space in front of me and having the huge size display. But as far as I can tell there are no true 40" 3DVision monitors. I know you could go the 3D Play way but I didn't want to have to compromise on either the resolution or the frame rate. So I tried the 27" Acer, which has received good reviews, but which I found too small. The occasional, unreliable good 3D experience wasn't worth the size trade off for me.
I'll give it a fresh look in a few years, hopefully there will be a more fully supported standard by then that works on all games and is supported by a full range of displays.

it seems to disable 3d vision for a second every 10 minutes or so and switch it back to 2d for no reason then switch back
i see nvidia give it a good rating so i assume this problem is related to something else as it looks pretty good apart from the switch to 2d
it seems to happnen mostly when the npc pops up on the left window to broadcast a message but no always
ive tried 3 sets of drivers and numerous graphic setting in starcrafts options but cant fix it
anyone know a fix
thanks

But after the latest patches from Blizzard, 3D Vision in SC2 is almost broken.
The crosshair is not 3D anymore, 3D vision switches on and off during gameplay, the popup window on the left, when some game character is talking to you is broken too.
When you load an older single player save game, it loads automatically an older version of the .exe ,and everything is OK, but since patch 1.3 SC2 3D is broken.
Very sad indeed.

However I find the game only jumps between 2D and 3D in campaign mode and runs far better during skirmish or online play. It is a real shame about the mouse icon.
