Red lines appearing in 3D mode [solved]
I have a strange problem where red horizontal lines appear whenever I am in 3D mode, which is extremely distracting and makes games unplayable. This turns up even when viewing 3D videos and pictures. This is not due to any IR interference (the red lines are visible even when I take off the glasses), light interference (I've switched off all the lights in my room), OS (I've tried Vista and 7, x86 and x64), video card overclocking (I run my cards at stock speed), SLI (I've tried non-SLI, 2/3-way SLI) or due to my specific video card (I've tried multiple). The red lines disappear when I turn off 3D mode.

After trying several things and nearly giving up, I realized I was using an extended DVI-D cable (longer than usual), and replaced it with the stock cable that comes with my 120 Hz monitor, and the red lines disappeared! I find this surprising, because the longer cable (and I've tried dual-link DVI extension cables from multiple brands) is still within the DVI specification, unless there is some other specification for DVI-D + 120 Hz I don't know about. I also don't know if this is indeed the cause of the problem, but the red lines aren't to be seen for now.

I'm posting this so that others with a similar problem might try using a shorter cable, or share how they fixed it.

I'm having the same problem, but I'm already using the stock monitor cable.

It's started after I installed a new sound card. 3D has been running fine for months but I've installed a new sound card this morning and suddenly I'm having a problem running in 3D. I've tried reinstalling my graphics drivers, sound drivers, etc... but with no luck.

Anyone got a solution to this problem? I'm already using the stock monitor cable and it's been working fine for me for months so I don't see why it would stop now.

EDIT: Odd indeed. First I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor cable from my graphics card with no luck, but when I disconnected and reconnected it from the monitor itself it fixed the problem. I have no idea why it suddenly started happening when I installed a new sound card, but you seem to be right in thinking that it's something to do with the DVI cable. Ah well, as long as it's fixed.

It's also worth noting that, like you, I'm running my cards in SLi. Like you said, you tried it with SLi disabled and it didn't fix it but I don't think it's a coincidence that we both had this problem and both of us run our graphics cards in SLi.

Anyways, thanks for this topic. I never would have guessed that it was the DVI cable on my own.
