First of all, I want to thank all of you for answering my GTX470 "additional hardware" questions. I got the power supply installed (bought a 300w one from HP, just kidding) but now my concern is heat inside the case. I only have 2 fans and a fan on the corsair power supply. Should I be concerned? Is it oK just to leave the side of the case off (could use the GTX to make dinner as well)? I have one of those huge HP stock cases if that helps.

90% of it is ambient temps, the other 10% is made up of cable management, cable management, decent airflow and cable management.
Aslong as you don't have obstructions like excessive dust or cables, I reckon you should be able to get away with 2 fans. The fan on your PSU is just for your PSU really and probably won't have any effect on the rest of your system.

It sounds like I should remove the cover (sidepanel)a bit for air. That a bad idea?

No that's not a bad idea, might make your place a bit noisier though. If it was me I would save up for 1 of these.. http://www.corsair.com/products/800d/default.aspx
It may be expensive, but it's also awesome. Think about it, you can change out/update every component of your PC while still keeping the same case, so it's worth saving for a while and investing in quality in my opinion :).

Nice job Crimson. All you need now is to find a way to fit a ceiling fan in there and its all good. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

Case comes with all those fans. Only cost me $100 from eBay. I love it. /bunny.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':bunny:' />

I'd actauly say leave it on. Unless the case temp is much higher than your room tempature that is.
it's more about clean airflow that will keep your temps down and i'd gues keepin ur case seeled so ur air intake and exhast fans are the only input/output of air allowing for a better, you could call it breez, wind, airflow in your case....
But for your orginal question i think the best answer could be wait and see. Just make sure your cabels are tidy and ur case aint dusty. /sweat.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
On another note, I'd recomend the Antec 900 if you do get a new case.

now if you can check my RAM question
4gig DDR 2 vs 8 Gig DDR2. Is it worth upgrading?
