I just want to make a thread dedicated to the biggest issue regarding Witcher 2 performance with 3D Vision that isn't lost in all the other threads. Please note this is with the 275.27 driver that was released that we are supposed to use with the game!
Frame rates inside any large indoor location in the game is horrible, not something small like a house but a larger indoor area like the prison or tavern. This is strange because in most games outdoors areas tend to run worse than indoors. A good example of this is the prison scenes in the prologue, both the in-engine cutscenes and gameplay portions, and also the tavern in Flotsam early in Act 1. MSI Afterburner shows that I am only getting anywhere from 10-30% GPU usage on either of my video cards and that is the reason why I can only get frame rates in the teens no matter what I configure in the launcher. Other people on other forums are having the same issue. I even dropped down to 1280x720 resolution and low system specs in the launcher and still got 10 FPS with GPU usage in the teens while inside the tavern.
Outdoor areas do not suffer this problem as GPU usage there is fairly high, in the 70%+ range from what I have seen. I have also seen people report that their performance in 2D has improved dramatically when they uninstalled the 3D Vision driver, and this is for people that aren't even running 3D Vision. Outside of the ubersampling option, which looks great but is too taxing on a system, the game can be played with high settings for everything else with the appropriate system. I get frame rates in the 40s in outdoor areas, which is pretty good considering having settings set high and how good the game looks.
This is a fantastic game, with a great story and beautiful graphics that could be a 3D Vision showcase if the indoor performance issue can be sorted out.
Andrew, I have to believe you folks are aware of this - is work being done on improving the 3d Vision driver and/or working with the developers on a fix?

As an update, I unintalled the 3D Vision driver and was getting frame rates in the 40's and 50's inside the same tavern where I was getting about 10 with the driver enabled. Frame rates outside where about the same. There is obviously something wrong with the 3D Vision driver when inside those indoor areas.
I spent over an hour testing various settings using the configuration, changing the SLI rendering methods using Nvidia Inspector, and trying to rename the game's exe to other games without any noticeable improvement. I think this is going to have to be fixed by Nvidia unfortunately.

I wanted to clarify that disabling 3D in the control panel doesn't improve the performance at all - the driver had to be completely uninstalled for the indoor performance bug to go away. I have no plans to play the game in 2D so I hope this gets fixed.

When I pause the game during indoor scenarios I can't even use the menues because of the horrible stuttering /wacko.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Same problem here. It's happening to far too many people for them not to have known about it. In game ctrl-t to disable 3d does nothing for the framerate, same if 3d is on or off. It's a real pity to have spent time on making the 3d look so good only to have it ruined by these driver FPS killing bugs.

I have the exact same problem, but I cannot (don't want to) uninstall the 3d drivers, because I need them at least for other games (don't think the performance is good enough to use 3d in the witcher 2).
Please just create a driver with a checkbox to simulate the non existence of the driver.

well i believe one of the admins here suggested that people who are going to play witcher 2 in 3d not to use the 270 drivers, there are known issues with it and i am sure they are working on it. they released a beta driver that claims some fixes for witcher 2, but this is a beta so it could go either way. I would wait for a WHQL release of the 275 series before giving 3d a good go. or just give the beta drivers a shot if you havent already

The problem exists with the 275.27 driver that Nvidia released yesterday which was supposedly the driver to use with Witcher 2 according to Andrew in another thread. Guess I will edit my first post to mention that.
On a side note, I did a complete uninstall and tried the 266.35 drivers from January and the same exact indoor frame rate problem is there. As other people have posted, it's not just the low frame rate problem as the game also stutters like mad and makes it hard to move around, even in the menu. I could live with the low frame rate issue for now but it is really hard to play with the stuttering.

It's probably rated that way because of how well the 3D in the game is, and not based on performance. I do admit I scratch my head at some of the ratings games get on the ratings list.
Andrew was on earlier today but I didn't see any response from him in any of the threads that mention the 3D performance issue. I really hope someone at Nvidia is really working on this.

I spent over an hour testing various settings using the configuration, changing the SLI rendering methods using Nvidia Inspector, and trying to rename the game's exe to other games without any noticeable improvement. I think this is going to have to be fixed by Nvidia unfortunately.
