Ok finally I had a little (very little) of time to experiment with mass effect shaders. This is the results I've obtained so far...
I've attached the shaderoverride, if someone could test it please make me know /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
At the end I discovered that I can move hud elements around and make things selectively transparent or change their colors... although I'm actually basing on where the actual vertex is, thus it works but not in all games. In fact the problem with me1 is that the shader that draws the sight is also the one that draws parts of the menu ..so I couldn't make the crosshair entirely transparent but I've tried an alternative as you can see from the following description :)
This fix consists of:
- when you aim (dx click) the crossair becomes transparent :) (the transparent area is small and it shouldn't mess the menu... make me know if it does)
- moved all hud's elements further into the screen
- adjusted hud's coordinates so that you can increase depth without cutting out hud's parts from an eye's image
- removed dynamics shadow that caused issues (for now but I'll try to fix them)
Reinstalling Mass Effect right now so I can see what's changed. Last time I played this game with 3DV it was mediocre at best and you had to bind a key to disable hud which also disabled dynamic lights and markers. It was really bad. This game being a U3 engine game has an ini file like Mirror's Edge that you can use to disable certain effects when shaders don't cut it.
Next set of games I plan to try out are the FEAR series since I have them all on steam and they are pretty popular. I know that FEAR1 and its expansions are all basically the exact same game so one fix should work on all of three of them together. Fear 2 wasn't bad in 3D last time I played it but there was one annoying shadow effect that had to be disabled. I'll go through them when I get a chance.

@artox: thanks for the links, let us know how the transparent HUD works out for you.
It works, but sadly only on the map icon, however I get a whole lot of corruption in the shadow department, which is weird. I think it has something to do with using SMAA, since didn't set up a proxy for it but just overwrote the SMAA dll, will test further tonight.
On a side-note I've tried to locate the appropriate HUD and crosshair shaders for the Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and I've been only able to track down part of the HUD. Am I misunderstanding something, or once you start disabling the next shader be it pixel or vertex you go from 0 up and that's it. The reason I ask is because I think I went through all vertex and pixel shaders in the game and couldn't locate the one with the characters avatar picture.
@eqzitar I am loving the blog, great idea and execution :)

If all these 3d anomalies can be fixed via a d3d dll. I wonder how many 3d anomalies could be fixed if helix had the original nvidia stereoscopic source code? It's unfortunate that the source code to this stereoscopic 3d tech is in the hands of incompetent developers at nvidia. I blame andrew. This is all his fault and the sooner him and his team gets fired the better.
I will be writing a letter to nvidia.
If a professional hack job (i say this with respect to helix) can achieve these type of results, imagine what Helix could do if he was paid 120k a year by nvidia?
Andrew? Sometimes the truth hurts, the question is are you man enough to admit when you've failed?

Wrong wrong wrong.... nVidia gives you access to everything....even the documentation and explanation on how 3D Vision works. They even give you tips (for developers) on how to code your engine to be 3D Vision ready.
So do your homeworks 1st:) And the only person who needs to be fired around here is you... You dont like a product..dont use...but dont start blaming others... If they are so incompetent maybe you should start developing something and give it to the rest:) What you do here is just blame other people when frankly you know half to nothing about it....

It's really the game developers at fault. They have access to the relevant nVidia materials. And also it depends if the developer thinks 3D is worth it. Todd Howard from Bethesda admitted he doesn't see what the deal is with 3D. Yet at the same time we get developers from Hard Reset that put a lot of time and effort into 3D to make their game look fantastic.
If there are 3D problems in a game, 99% of it is due to the game developer, not nVidia. Maybe if nVidia took a different approach and endorsed game companies for them to work better making 3D Vision in the games.

Have to agree with Helifax here, very well stated.
Expecting Nvidia to modify shader code and fix games on a per-game basis is simply an unsustainable workflow and product strategy for 3D Vision. As great as HeliX's tools are, its still very much reactive while Nvidia's 3D Vision and overall corporate culture and approach is very proactive. They work with developers directly to try and improve 3D Vision support out-of-the-box while inherently acknowledging some games will not make the cut. That's where a 3rd party tool like the ones HeliX has provided becomes invaluable.
On the other side, there's some very real support and liability issues once Nvidia starts injecting and modifying code and shader draw calls. The availability and use of a 3rd party tool relieves them of this culpability, but don't kid yourself Jenson, a big reason this mod works at all is because Nvidia does make it so easy to hook into NVAPI to manipulate their driver and hardware (see Helifax's links).
Instead of trying to point the finger and place blame, as you've done many times in the past, why not devote some of that abundant energy towards making the fixes you've boldly claimed to be so trivial in the past? I think if you did, you'd not only appreciate what's been given to you (with HeliX tools as well as Nvidia's hardware/software), but you'd also see this is still a non-optimal solution compared to Nvidia/developer driven fixes for 3D Vision Ready products out-of-the-box. HeliX tools are fantastic and he's clearly demonstrated his brilliance in fixing numerous game issues, but not everything can be fixed with his mod because they need to be fixed on the engine-side of things.
In any case, I don't think this is the place to discuss this, let's try to keep this thread to one of action and positive energy instead of whatever you're trying to accomplish. /thanks.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thanks:' />

I could counter debate all your arguments, but ultimately I just hope NVIDIA hires you. NVIDIA's current devs are incompetent. You know it and I've known it for a long time.
You've fixed problems that NVIDIA could never fix because they are incompetent. You can just tell that the developers at nvidia are over worked and burned out. They need to be fired.
Helix let's be real here. If you had access to all of NVIDIA 3d visions source code you could probably perform miracles right?

You are missing the point, even if Nvidia's developers were competent and I don't intend to get into that discussion, they have to prioritize and resource dedication happens in accordance with issue urgency, which in turn is determined by profits.
3dvision isn't as profitable as other stuff, case closed. Not to mention the whole legality issue, again.
And I think that Helix can do much more on the outside, than if he were employed by Nvidia, as currently he has his hands free to do whatever he wants, opposed to what he would be doing by following orders and abiding by company structure and task prioritization.

This is like the nerdy version of one of those awkward sit-com/romantic comedy scenes where you see the trainwreck about to happen with a chance to stop it, but the protagonist figures: why bother? It may be good for a few laughs. /rofl.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I think I've seen this episode before, like when the guy is professing his love to the wrong person behind bathroom stall #2 leading to really awkward moment.
In any case Jenson, you want to claim all talk and no walk...the tools are right there in front of you. How many games have you fixed again?

I dont think talking bad about nvidia here is a good idea here since we helix just started up and his software is still very new. Maybe when they see what hes doing they will at least help us out. Maybe give us software so we can cycle through the "nvidia profiles" for a given game. Being able to work with the 3d vision software to generate things at max depth from target would also be nice if possible(crosshairs). Like left for dead 2, portal 2,etc.
Im not sure if nvidia is interested in actually doing what we are doing. Its a lot of man hours. I am no where near as advanced on a fix of any game I did compared to helix/mana84/chiz did on many of theirs. I am just not certain they are willing to pay that much for games to be fixed. 3D has grown but is still very niche.
That said I will be pming people about becoming blogspot authors/ftp folder access. If you are interested you can use it. If not just ignore it. I will rewrite up anything you write here onto their. I am hoping as we grow that the blogspot is where all 3d gamers will check out to see if their games get added/updated. Only posts to be made on it are releases. And a quick post saying when something has been updated. When finished doing the backlog. The blogspot should look like. Example -Release-, -Release-,=game has been updated(link to release). Should be very nice.
Some perks are you can read all comments(not sure if its just posts you made or all posts). Or you can enable so on all your posts that when a comment is displayed you get an email.
@update. I sent them out to most people if I missed you, it was by no offense. Contact me via pm and I will hook you up.(please keep in mind you already needed to have completed one game profile fix.)

If there are 3D problems in a game, 99% of it is due to the game developer, not nVidia. Maybe if nVidia took a different approach and endorsed game companies for them to work better making 3D Vision in the games.

In any case Jenson, you want to claim all talk and no walk...the tools are right there in front of you. How many games have you fixed again?
