Just got 3d vision. What driver should i use? My 9800GTX+ good enough?
Title says it all. SHould I be using the beta 3d driver? the one from the cd? or the one for my 9800GTx+ that seems to be "auto picked"

Also, will my card be enough to run most these games? It is a pretty high end card

Hey man, I used the beta 19 one right from the start, it hasn't given me any issues..

As for performance, that depends on your processor etc too.. but as a general rule of thumb 3d takes about 40 - 60 percent depending on your rig.. Far Cry 2 goes from 85 fps (2D) to a solid 60 (3D) with the same settings.. whereas left 4 dead goes from about 160 to 60 solid too... games that I see a performance hit in are rare, I pretty much get solid 60 in everything I play:

MW2
Dirt 2
L4D 1 + 2 (2 dips to low 50's sometimes..

I am running on a GTX295 and i5 @ 3.6 rig though, 4GB RAM and 1.19 beta drivers

RE5 gave me the worst performance going from about 80 - 120+ down to about 30 - 60... the fps is locked at 60fps while in 3D vision mode if you didn't already know :D

so take a little off for eg... if I got 160 in l4d say you got 120.. you'd get 50+ fps I'd imagine (maybe dip to 40's in very hectic situations).

Also a tip for settings... start with the depth at the minimum then increase it slowly until you feel comfortable... don't whack it to 100 depth just for the sake of it.. in most cases 100 depth is way too much to add immersion..

so make the depth between the minimum and 70% max based on the game (this is just my opinion!) then basically hold CTRL + F6 for about 10 seconds and the image will start pulling apart (this is the convergence).. when this happens, swap to CTRL + F5 and slowly bring the imagine in so that the gun is in focus (the handle / hammer etc)..

now if it's a game that requires aiming down the sights... hold the aim button so you are looking down the sights and hold ctrl +F5 until the gun is in focus and doesn't create a doubling effect of what your aiming at..

make sure you use CTRL + F6 until the image splits as this sets the convergece to the maximum level (pop out in other words) then bring iit in with ctrl+F5 until you hit the sweet spot... you will have to adust the convergence everytime you move the depth...

when you are happy with it, press ctrl+F7 (I think) to save the settings and they will automatically apply each time you load that game..

I hope this makes sense.. and sorry for any spelling errors :D

Sorry to sound a little harsh but a 9800GTX+ is not a high end card. With 3d you have to think that your frame rate is cut in half. The GPU has to render two frames to make one image thus turning 120hz into 60hz (FPS). Play around with it a bit and if you feel your performance needs to be improved think aout going SLI with another 9800GTX+. I'm sure you could pick one up pretty cheap.

*** Can someone PLZ tell me specifically how to get 3d cursor for WOW to work? What is it, how do i get it, and how can i get this working now? ****

Hello buddy ive seen quite a few people around these 3d forums running a 9800gtx and playing happily away in 3d for the time being, bare in mind there are alot of flickering issues in the glasses when playing on an sli setup so i wouldn't go that route for now (take a look at the flickering issue thread on here)

As you've mentioned Nvidia are bringing out their new cards over the next couple of months so by far and away the best advice is to hang on with your 9800gtx and wait for those.

I have the 9800 GTX+

Wish I had a better card. It works fine with all games for the most part. Sometimes I need to turn down the quality in order for the game to run smooth. So yeah, it's not a high end card at all. It works enough where I don't need to run right out and buy a better one. Get two? I think not. Buy the GeForce GTX 260. Both run good with Physx /sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' />

I'm just going from the flickering thread in which it seems sli or overclocking and certain other configs seem to cause flickering. If i recall correctly alot of people had trouble with the 295's as they are indeed two gtx260 chips on one card running in sli mode. People found disabling one of the chips stopped the flickering. Having said that im sure in the latest drivers there has been a bit more optimization for sli profiles with 3d vision. Also i will vouch for the gtx260(216 core), i have one and hasn't showed any sign of weakness running any game so if you want a short term boost i would recommend that card also.

I rarely play WOW but just fired it up, disabled hardware cursor in the stereo menu and low and behold.....3d cursor. It even tells you that 3d cursor will be disabled with hardware cursor.
