Computer becoming unresponsive under certain games The Witcher, World of Warcraft, Burnout Paradise,
These 4 games seem to be doing this to me while every other game I've played under 3D vision has worked perfectly fine. While playing one of these 4 games my Samsung Syncmaster 2233 will abruptly go into sleep mode (the blue light flicking on and off), my audio will cut out, and i lose control of my computer. The only way to get out of this is to hit the restart button and than the power button. Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing, and no amount of waiting seems to result in anything.
After about 5 minutes The Witcher will do this every time.
Burnout Paradise seems to do this after about 20 minutes of play, or it doesn't do it at all.
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion seems to do this about an hour or 2 into the game, or it doesn't do it at all.
World of Warcraft did this about an hour or 2 into the game, since the newest driver release (196.21) the game seems to be stable.
Games like Batman: AA, Left 4 Dead 1&2, Metro 2033, Just Cause 2, Mass Effect 1, Dragon Age: Origins, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2, Trine, Bioshock 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Arma 2, Team Fortress 2, Stalker: Clear Sky, Grand Theft Auto 4, and F.E.A.R. 2 can be played for many hours without ever encountering this issue.
I've done a fresh install of windows and still experience this problem. These 4 games may crash at varying times but between the 4 it is always the same way; the screen without warning flicks off (blue light blinking), audio cuts out simultaneously, and i'm forced to hit the reset button. Upon restarting my computer i am ask whether i would like to start Windows normally or in Safe Mode due to an expected crash.
Different drivers seem to still have this issue, though my current driver is 196.21. My graphics card is a GTX 285 (2 gigs of vram), processor is an i7 @ 2.67 GHz, i have 6 gigs of ram, all running on Windows 7 64-bit.

Can anyone at least comment on The Witcher for me? Were you able to play it without any issues in 3D?
I've owned this same computer for about a year and had played The Witcher without issue, but once i try to play it in 3D i get maybe 10 minutes into it before it just suddenly decides to become unresponsive.

Is it possible that a part of my computer, the GPU or CPU perhaps, could be overheating and shutting itself off for safety reasons? It would seem odd that it would only do this for these few specific games but i'm at my wits end with this.

I can't seem to find any option in the nvidia control panel to monitor temperatures.
It really doesn't seem like anything is overheat. Since the latest driver release World of Warcraft actually appears to be stable. I was able to play World of Warcraft for about 3 hours today without any problem; than i fired up The Witcher: Enhanced Edition (on steam) real quick out of curiosity and sure enough about 5 minutes in the game crashes, i lose my screen and audio and i have to restart.
Are you running the steam version of The Witcher? Are you on Vista out of curiosity?

I have the original version which I updated to enhanced.
Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
