Bah!
EA might not be the "best" but I don't think they are the worse as a lot of people make them to be. (At least not game-wise. Sure, they use "fishy" practices, but their games... you can clearly see they have been worked on and a lot of passion and time went into them! (I am talking about the actual game minus the micro-transactions).
Sure, is not "EA that makes them" (directly), is their studios, but those studios are paid by EA...so...
This piece of "news" will be interesting, if it comes to fruition:)

Worth bearing in mind that all the DX12 exclusive titles released so far are ones published by Microsoft Game Studios, and ofc they are also Windows Store exclusives, which means there are two reasons we can't get into them with a modding tool (that doesn't mean we never will, but certainly not yet a while, and the first 3DMigoto release with DX12 support will be a mere shadow of what the DX11 3DMigoto is capable of), and there is every reason to believe that if they acquire EA it will be the same story there.

You can still enjoy the games, when not totally broken, and hate the company.
EA is the one that broke the Steam model, and was first to make ME3 not available on Steam ever. Forced everyone to suck it up and install their absolutely heinous Origin software. Setup the awesome gamer friendly model of dual DRM, Steam+Origin. One of the first to adopt Denuvo, because two DRM is just not enough.
Spore and SimCity with always on internet requirements. Battlefield with that f*ing ridiculous jump out to browser loader- and always on requirement.
EA is the one that continues to buy studios- just so they can kill them. Visceral? Bye-bye DeadSpace. https://heavy.com/games/2017/10/studios-ea-has-killed-visceral-games/
Microtransactions galore? Not stop lying how they are gamer-first? Releasing the same sports game every year with new skins?
Things are not as terrible with them now- but I don't forget. Please don't be an apologist for these assholes.

EA does not maintain small studios. A game only hitting 1/2 million sales is a failure. So limiting the releases to smaller market place means they would have to change business model which defeats purpose of buy out.
When Microsoft axes its smaller studios[lionshead, etc] and cancels more then a few third party titles... and then spends $30+ billion [not including upkeep/development costs] in a buy out is kind of laughable to consider. You don't dump millions in studios cost/development cost just throw around billions.
I think this is just the latest circle-jerk to say EA is going under blah blah despite no games being a SALES FAILURE and stock value at highest yet. I don't think Microsoft even has the liquidity to buy them out.

EA is a publisher that considers SW:BF II a failure when it sells 9 million copies.... Let that sink in for a moment.
It's very likely if Bioware does not meet their overblown expectations in Anthem, it will be going the way of the dodo bird along with all the other studios they have chewed up and spit out taking only what they want, the intellectual property of these studios they destroy.
They have great talented studios who clearly love games, but....
I have to agree with Bo3b and eqzitara.
EA
Ruin Everything.
Only two things I can think of in the gaming sphere that are worse. Activision and Universal Windows Platform titles or as I like to call it Games for windows live 2

SW:BFII sold 7 mil copies, not 9 mil - suggests 1/1000 of the humans on Earth are greater fools.
Bioware has been the walking dead for a while, the last genuinely great game they made was ME2.
I think MS & EA deserve each other and that they are going to have to pry Win7 and Steam from my cold, dead hands :D
Yah, as much as I dislike EA, the last thing I want to see is Microsoft buy them or anyone else. The last thing I want to see, is more Microsoft exclusives or gimped games made to run on UWP aimed at consoles > PCs.
It sucked that while I was off-line and without internet, I found out that EA does not have an offline mode.
Hats off to Ubisoft for allowing off-line gameplay via UPlay.
Steam games were hit and miss.

Microsoft’s lack of exclusive gaming content is driving various acquisition rumors, including Valve. See https://www.polygon.com/2018/1/30/16932860/xbox-microsoft-exclusive-games-acquisitions-ea-valve-pubg, for example. Their new console (One X) lacks a suitable high res library (and no VR/HMD support) to justify its purchase over less powerful console versions, also.

Not that it matters but I've seen multiple press articles that say it sold 9 million.
I do agree with you that mass effect 2 was biowares last really good game though.

SWToR released after ME2 and was really good after the initial launch bugs were patched.
The Engine sucks, tainting the MMO aspect, but the story lines were great on many of the classes.

I know all of those "stories". As a fact, I know a LOT more about EA :) which I cannot say here.
They aren't the soo "bad boys" everyone seem to see... Sure, they have some practices forced "down your/their through" but is not 100% up to EA:)
I do have to agree, that they have a tendency to "kill" everything they "own". But M$ buying them... "I don;t want to be forced to play EA games in Windows Store - on that ABYSMAL LOCKED-IN platform." So... (From "shit", I just don;t want it to get even more (a lot) "shittier" :) )
Either way, the ORIGIN "Client" must DIE! (Poor piece of software) and bring their games back to STEAM!
