am i good 2 go?
ok I have been spending the last week pining for a 3d setup, especially after reading some of your guys posts. So I budgeted out some loot and decided to build a new rig, in your honest opinons with the specs I am posting will Iget decent 3d performance? note: I am pretty new to pc gaming, i was a console junky for years but after building my last pc I have fully come over to the dark side.

new pc specs

c2q 8600(will oc fer sure)
xfx 750i sli ready mobo
bfg gtx 260(I really wanted the 275 but i couldn't find one in stock anywhere so I went with a 260 for now and in a couple weeks if need be I'll sli that puppy)
asus en9800gt ult (as physics card)
4 gigs patriot ram
ultra 750w sli ready ps
500g hd
win7 64

and for a display I picked up a viewsonic 6210(thanks chibi for the glowing review)

so will I be ok running games 1024x768 at decent settings? please refrain from elitist statements if possible lol, sure I don't have i7s and 295s in sli but for the res I am gaming in will this be a decent setup until the 400 series drops? I could have sprung for a 295 or a 285 but I just couldn't bring myself to do it knowing I'll prob buy one from the new series eventually and worse case scenario I just grab another 260 for sli until prices on fermi cards become "reasonable"

Looks fine to me. I have an SLi rig but on the odd occasion when I've been running games with only one card enabled even my 8800GT can still handle the majority of games in 3D. You should be fine.

awesome, thanks for the advice. I was starting to sweat a bit, I see all these ppl in the forums
running some real beasts but they are also playing in extreme rez as well, plus I always look up benchmark reviews of similar setups and they are a bit unreliable.

You won't be gaming in stereoscopic 3d at 1024x768, 3d Vision compatible monitors come in 1680x1050 or 1920x1080. Not a huge difference, but definitely more processing power than 1024x768.

That said, you should be pretty golden with that system. As I'm sure you realize, it's not "cutting edge", but it will certainly hold its own for what you want it for.

However, isn't the Core2 8600 a Duo (as opposed to a quad)? If you're seriously thinking of going SLI, you may want to consider going with an i7 rig instead; SLI is where the i7 really shines. You can get a socket 1156 i7 for the same price as the rig you have detailed above, and it would be a lot more "future-proof". I'm not trying to sound "elitist", just offering up some food for thought before you dive in. Either way, welcome to the dark side! ;)

Running a beast system and playing high res with all the eye candy on and an unnecessarily high level of antialiasing is a double edge sword. The positives are the games look as good as they possibly can. The big negative is you get spoiled hehehe

lol i hear ya I plan on spoiling myself when fermi releases, I picked up the viewsonic 6210
its 3d res to my knowledge is actually 1024x768, and the 8300 is a quad core, I had a hard time finding an i series cpu that was in my budget thats why I went with the c2q deal they had on tiger. plus I had to save some cash for bfbc2 playing that in 3d is going to be so sick. does anyone know if its going to be physx supported?

System should be fine at that resolution.
