Playing around with 3DMigoto, I have successfully been able to play in 3D on my C6 without the EDID mod. I do this by selecting checkerboard in the NVCP and setting the 3DMigoto output to line interlaced. I'm just curious if there are any benefits to using the EDID mod over using this method? Strangely I I had success like you playin in 4k 3d with checkerboard without override...
Perhaps they updated nvidia 3d tv play?
But I didn't have HDR, did you?

2. In my testing (maybe 2 years ago), I thought EDID method had a little less ghosting than when 3D was enabled using TV’s remote. Has anyone else noticed this?

Another benefit of using Edid is lower imputlag. Whenever you activate 3D on TV input lag is increased.
And the thing is you can still continue to use TAB SBS when you want, it does not disable the options you currently have.
The Edid also allows you to play games that were not fixed in 3Dmigoto, native or compatibility mode.

So I can have EDID installed, and still play in 1440p TaB for demanding games if I want? I might have to go back and test this out some more, I have been using 3DMigoto for everything. The only downside as you point out, older dx9 games and CM are limited to 3Dtvplay 720/60.

Actually it tricks the Drivers into thinking that it is "Optimized for Nvidia GeForce" approved (not 3D Vision approved), which is the only way to get the drivers to "officially" output a Line Interlaced stereoscopic format.
The benefit of outputting Line Interlaced to the TV, is as joker18 was saying, the TV does not have to post process the input format and convert it. The time it takes converting the image from TnB or SbS isn't much, but is enough that it can be noticeable in gameplay depending on the game. So anytime you can input Line Interlaced you are better off. Thus the EDID approach is superior.

The "only" reason you change to Checkerboard in 3DTV Play for 3Dmigoto SbS/TnB is so that you do not get the Nvidia "red overlay" message complaining that you need to be using 24Hz with 1080P.
Optomized for Nvidia GeForce does not have any 24Hz restrictions and is already running at 1080i 60(120), so the "red warning overlay" is not an issue, like in 3DTV Play.

You cannot mess something up - simply reload NVidia graphics driver to return to default state.
