8800 GTX and Stereo Drivers working, but glitches
Hello everybody,

I have just bought an 8800 GTX and tried my luck with the 162.50 stereo drivers, combined with several ForceWare versions. I know that everybody says it doesn't work with an 8800 GTX, and that is the reason why I opened this thread. I use 3D shutter glasses, and they work. I get the 3D effect, the medical test thingie works, the stereo image viewer works also. But this other test application (with the nVidia logo) and Unreal Tournament 2004 fail completely. The 3D effect is there, but especially in UT04, there are heavy graphical glitches, the graphics are completely corrupted. The test application isn't affected equally strong, there are "only" lots of black artefacts, especially around the corners of objects.

Sooo: is it this effect everybody means when they say it doesn't work with the 8800 cards? What problems are there with 8800 cards?

I am worried that my card isn't ok, that's why I'm asking. I have major problems with it under Windows Vista x64 ("Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, but has succesfully recovered." all the time), but no problems with XP x86, except with the 3D drivers. /ermm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ermm:' />

Any comments on these problems are appreciated. :)

Best regards,

Your card is perfectly fine /hug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Yes, that Blocky corruption in most games that should work is what we mean when we say it doesn't work.

Its because apparently the 8xxx is a completely new "design", i.e. "Revolution", whereas up to the 7xxx series, it was always "Evolution".

Sorry about lack of stereo3d. I feel your pain :'(

There is meant to be an 8xxx vista driver around the corner though from what I can make out. Supposed to have been released December, then January, then February... no sightings yet I'm afraid.

Thank you for your answer. :)
That's one sorrow less for me. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

But it's indeed a pity that the drivers don't work with the 8xxx cards. I've had ATI cards for many years now, and I always wanted to use those shutter glasses again (the last time was with a GeForce 2 Ti, IIRC), what wasn't possible with ATI, and now I finally bought an 8800 GTX, simply because of performance reasons, and now there aren't working drivers! :'(

Let's hope that Vista driver will appear someday. I still use XP, but for 3D gaming I'd even reboot.

To be honest, I'm shocked because of the bad driver quality of nVidia. /fear.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fear:' /> I have lots of problems (black in movies is dark grey, not black / Vista: driver crashing & restarting (TDR) / no working 3D drivers / forced AA not working in newest drivers...), and I had no problems at all with my ATI card. Ok, 3D wasn't possible at all, admitted. :D

hehe yer, they aren't exactly known for their quality drivers

The video color though... it's probably a codec issue?

I like the k-lite codec pack... usually use FFDSHOW codec for everything to upsample the vid, I've never really had any problems with it.

If you are using windows media player, and if in advanced options you have "high quality" selected, i find that this setting used to make the contrast lower, blacks into gray, and generally smooth the image a little.

Its strange... finding good codec settings seems more to be a black art than a science :P

It happened with every codec and every software possible, H.264, MPEG2, MPEG4... So it wasn't a codec problem. I put the brightness to 0% and contrast to 100% in the nVidia Control Panel. It looks "right" now, although I'm not completely sure if it is. :P Oh, but only under XP. 0%/100% give completely different results under Vista.

And it seems I solved the Vista-driver-crash-issue as well! I switched back to 163.75 WHQL from 169.28 beta, and 3DMark06 didn't crash during the whole night now! :) It used to run only minutes up to two hours with the 169.28 drivers. XP was never a problem, even with 169.28...
