*Real* 3D movies thread
Just wanted to make a thread to help give some attention to movies with "real" 3D used in the production and maybe help avoid fake 3D conversions or point out conversions that happened to turn out really well. The Martian is the one that looks the best IMO and its out now where i am. Here is a list of real 3D and fake 3D movies on: http://www.realorfake3d.com/ For 2015 we have for "real 3D" movies this list: B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldy Operations Every Thing Will Be Fine The Good Dinosaur Home Hotel Transylvania 2 Inside Out The Little Prince Love The Martian Minions Pan Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water The Walk Wolf Totem ---- and in the fake category we have: Ant-Man Avengers: Age of Ultron The Divergent Series: Insurgent Doctor Who: Dark Water / Death in Heaven Everest Fantastic Four Furious 7 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Jupiter Ascending Jurassic World Mad Max: Fury Road Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials Monster Hunt Pixels Poltergeist San Andreas Seventh Son Star Wars: The Force Awakens Terminator: Genisys Tomorrowland
I don't trust that site anymore. It's been inaccurate for a while. For example, Paranormal Activity Ghost Dimension was post converted into 3D, not filmed in 3D.

Love
The Martian
Minions

and in the fake category we have:

Here is an image i used to illustrate the difference between the maximum amount of separation in films vs. movies. This is why i highly recommend playing with your 3D software's or hardware's 3D settings to bump up the convergence points to levels that enhance whatever type subject matter or viewing distance/screen size. Its not the greatest example, but it makes the point.

Thanks man, glad to help folks to read an opinion about a movie before see it, though if someone wants to see a movie for sure he will just see it. I've just saw "Terminator: Genisys", is this really a fake 3d movie? I've enjoyed it (movie and 3D, not excellent but very good,a bit more "toyification" would be nice..).

One of my favorite real 3D movies is The Musketeers (the one with Mila Jovovich). An underrated movie IMO. Really great visuals.

The original avengers is my go to 3D film. It's full screen 16:9 and the pop out is amazing. Irobot and predator are really good converted to 3D films.

Avengers was converted, not filmed in 3D. Not a bad conversion though.

They're certainly are getting better at conversions IMO. I thought Star Wars has a lot of great 3D moments for a conversion. I wonder if they are just upping the amount of depth, ie, simply increasing the separation.

Oh, I've passed by this thread ! OK then here the 31 3D movies for 2016 and beyond: http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/Discussions/Cinema/films-3d-2016-sujet_108267_1.htm#t37133164 Here is another site with detail about conversion or not: (It will be updated soon for future movies) http://www.3dmovielist.com/list.html For detecting fake 3D it's quite simple: Look at reflections on paint car, mirrors, glass, puddles, still waters (lac, sea, ocean)... If the reflection is on the surface it's is fake 3D, if the reflection is in depth it's probably real 3D. To spot fake 3D, just look at headlight of cars, it is so complexe to make it 3D, every fake 3D movie dodge them. Other trick, look at the camera from behind the sceen or making of. If there is no 3D rig or right angle cameras it's fake 3D obviously.

The martian is fake 3D, it's easy to spot cause human vision sees 3D up to 150 meters so every far shot land scape should be 2D with maximum depth separation. It is clearly not the case it's all 3D (clouds/mountains). .
