Hey all, I'm currently gaming on a 27" 1080p monitor but looking for a little more immersion. So I'm gearing towards the acer h5360, but my obvious concern is the 720p resolution vs 1080p.
Can anyone who has experiences both comment about the picture quality vs the 2? Is there alot of difference?
I have sli titans so was thinking if I crank up all the bells and whistles and downsampling at 720p, I might get it looking as good as 1080p...
Thoughts anyone...

I've honestly never got downsampling to work in 3D on any of my devices that use hdmi. Though others got it to work. I've only used AA overrides+ injectors. I rarely have problem where I consider game to be too jaggy. Playing a game at release is always an issue though because you got to wait for people to post AA settings, etc. Like farcry 3 no one used AA for so long and in-game was broken. Then some rare games you cant get override to work.
Though tbh, I really believe that people overestimate the difference in 1080p->720p. I own a 1080P native projector and a 720P native 3d projector the difference in 2D is very minimal. Its there but not much, another big projector user named Airion[who knows more then me about projectors]. Also has same setup and agrees.
Its up to the individual. I mean if your happy with 1080p monitor. Like im sure regardless there will be games you'd rather play on projector but there might also be games you'd rather play on monitor.
Personally when I first started 3D. I bought a first gen hdtv. Loved 3d but knew it wasn't right because of ghosting, bought a monitor and same thing. Got a projector and thats only reason I still use 3D. Ive tried to buy each new gen monitor that comes out but still haven't found anything good enough. I've bought 7 displays [2 projectors] and I never used any besides projector for over a couple of weeks.
Not sure if your on fence between projector/hdtv but just in case.
Im sure a hdtv user is gonna kill me but I dont really recommend a hdtv over a projector. Projectors are cheap, no ghosting, Massive[immersion factor]. Also a projector like the acer h5360 is native 720P. You get a 3D TV its native 1080P so going 720P will actually be worse off then a native 720P display.
In all honesty cant go wrong by trying a 3d projector as long as you aren't lazy and already own an emitter. Find a nice big clean white wall, buy projector, try it out. Don't like it? Sell it on ebay lose maybe $60[they weigh like 5lb]. If you like it spend $150-$80 on a screen and find a good place to put it.
If you dont own an emitter then risk may be a bit higher but you may want to check ebay. They are up at $40usd constantly for USA. No idea your location.
If it helps out of 5 people that showed an interest in switching to projectors[that tried it], all five are now projector users. Im just a little more unsure with you since you are a SLI titan user.

Thanks for the detailed response mate, much appreciated. I think I might give it ago, worst case scenario I'll use for 3d movies if gaming in 720p is not my cup of tea.
Everything I have read seems point to the Acer H5360 being the best 720p 3d ready projector, is that correct? Or would you recommend a diff model?
Thanks again.

Best sub $1000 at least. Which is good since its $500. Past $1000 mayb a diff model but I doubt it since they are native 1080p. Might have better contrast/blacks whatever but its not worth whatever the difference is.
Cant go wrong on an acer h5360.

I concur as a H5360 user. Can't really go wrong at $500.
Be sure to play with contrast, brightness, color when it's running in 3D mode. If you adjust it properly you can get a very good picture. If it's not adjusted, it tends to be a little dark, and colors are muted.
SLI Titan will be overkill for everything except most recent games, like Metro Last Light. I've been playing there with GTX580 SLI, and can't turn on SSAA, and turned it down from Very High quality to High, to keep my minimum frame rate above 40 fps.
I've never done 1080p gaming, only projector, so can't comment on comparison. But I can say that once I started running H5360 I've been completely happy, including resolution. In 3D mode you are getting two frames every 60Hz, so effectively it is double 1280, like 1280x2x720@60Hz. I sit at 10 feet distance, and if I sit at 7 feet, I can see screen door and resolution is noticeable, but only in 2D. Even at 7 feet, 3D is still clean, with no discernable pixels.
I've been able to do supersampling over HDMI with this projector. On simpler games that don't push the GTX580 SLI it cleans up the image nicely. You should be able to do that with SLI Titan, but as eqzitara notes, it doesn't always work for unknown reasons. Anyway, I have one instance of where it worked, so it's possible, we just don't know what the factors are that make it not work.

I have a benq w7000 and it's a really good full hd 3d projector, great image quality. You can do 720p 3d just like h5360, even 1080p though at 24fps, and you get fullhd 3d movies and 2d games at 100'' for a very reasonable price. I had an h5360 and the w7000 is a really good upgrade, only one word of advice, if you have 3d vision already with the nvidia USB dongle, you'll have to keep it connected to get 3dtv play for free, however the USB dongle signal messes with the remote signal and gives big issues to the 3d signal, so just hide it were it's still connected to your PC but the signal is blocked. I went through hell until I learned this.

Yep, I've said 1080p (my Mitsubishi HC3800) is about 10-20% better than 720p (my Acer H5360BD) with my setup. All things being equal, that modest improvement is worth it to me for 2D 1080p Blu-rays. But if it's a choice between my 720p projector or my 1080p laptop screen for 2D, I definitely go for the projector. Resolution is just one of many factors to consider, and you face diminishing returns the higher you go. The immersive impact of a large screen is very important.
If it's a choice between 1080p 2D or 720p 3D, I always choose 720p 3D, but that's more of a 2D vs 3D issue.
For what it's worth, most people with a 1080p TV either don't have a screen big enough or don't sit close enough to even benefit from it. A lot of people with passive 3D TVs say their TV looks as good as 1080p active TVs, but usually that's because they're not sitting close enough to be able to see 1080p in the first place. With a monitor you're probably sitting close enough, but I think this is an interesting reference anyway:
(See attached jpeg chart. Note that with a 27" screen, you'd only see 720p at 5 feet away, and you'd need to sit 3 feet away to full benefit from 1080p. With my 90" screen and sitting 7 feet away, I'm close enough to fully benefit from 1440p, so the differences and benefits of 720p vs 1080p are as obvious as they can be.)
