I have been eagerly following your progress on this game and had to make an account just to say THANK YOU for all your efforts. Getting to play some of my favorite games (esp. souls series) in 3D has been amazing. What more to say? You guys are awesome thank you!

After reading all this I'm not sure I want to continue my quest in 2D. Just finished DS2 in 3D before launch and it flat out rocked. Felt like a real chump for already having put 250 hours of "flat" time into that game. For some reason places seem to stick more in my mind with 3D vision. (Not to mention how much easier it is to "sweet spot" a halbert.)

Honestly the game is broken on soo many levels... Hack after hack after hack... In any case: - I managed to push most of the HUD to depth (Constants .X) - Managed to put the lights into depth (from 2D) but this is an approximation as the .w component is always 1 and we can't actually apply the full formula. - Disabled a few decals and the stupid FOG with halos... Broken: - Shadows. I managed to COUNT 12 VS for shadows... I tried to fix one but after I dumped it it bugged out. So I guess this needs to be done from ASM rather than HLSL or maybe the HLSL that is dumped is wrong... - Reflections on armor, terrain, bla bla bla, etc, etc... I am posting what I have done so far here in case SOMEONE is interested in pursuing this further. I don't think I will as I always found the Dark Souls game very FRUSTRATING to fix both Shader-wise and Surround-wise. Since it doesn't work in Surround and I wasn;'t able to make a fix for it I am not that interested in 3D Vision anyway... and CM mode works perfectly fine for me:) In any case, the current WIP is cleaner and better than the normal out of the box experience;) THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE FIX so unless you are interested in fixing the game any further I still recommend using CM profile I posted on the other page! Hope this helps the others why want to take a look at fixing the game;) I think "masterotaku" has the best experience fixing a souls game and I hope this will help him get started;) Cheers! Hey, helifax. Looking at the PCGamingwiki of DS3, I've found this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=663922936 I haven't read it thoroughly, but it may work for your 3 monitors. And of course, thanks for your work. About shadows, what about pixel shaders? In DS2:SOTFS they had to be fixed there. Although this game runs in a different engine so I don't know.

I tried helifax's WIP. It makes the environment and textures look really good - it even improves the texture scaling for me which exhibits this strange kind of detail pop-in 2d which isn't present in 3d (I have noticed this pop-in on you tube videos of Dark Souls 3 so know it's not just me). However, as soon as I turn 3d vision on in Nvidia control panel, whether I run the game in 2d or 3d, my character model freaks out. The hair displaces, as do half the clothes, so that different parts of the character are rendered in 2 different places. I am running a GTX 760 with an EDID override on a passive 3d monitor. I am slightly older Nvidia drivers (364.51). I will upgrade to the latest and see if that changes anything. I am imressed with just how good the environment works with the WIP, though.

Ok, so an update with the latest Nvidia drivers. The characters don't freak out when stereoscopy is enabled in 2d or 3d and textures don't pop-in in 3d - but, 3d now looks like it is in compatibility mode, it doesn't have real depth and the game crashes, a lot. I sympathise with you stereoscopy patchers because it seems you not only have sloppy game code to work with but drivers that can fundamentally change how a given game renders.

At this stage, after WIP fix game looks really good. Few light left to sort and the boss battle fog at the door. Shadows are less important - hardly see them in this game. I have no idea why you giving up on this Helifax - you did such a great progress with it. I bet it is all because of long winter and that is pissing you off - when summer comes back you`ll start missing this dark gory feeling of this game and complete this fix. I bet. Thanks for all this Helifax - I am having great moments with this game in 3D.

I agree with SKAUT. For me the game looks very good now and is greatly playable in 3D. I also play it without shadow. The fog is not disturbing me and the halo around the character almost invisible. I recommend to everyone to play it now as you can still find plenty of coop partner. This might get more difficult in half a year and so will the game. @ ummester, are you aware of all the advance functions of 3D vision? Yes, it is important recently to always upgrade to the newest game ready driver by nvidia.
@ ummester, are you aware of all the advance functions of 3D vision? Also, I generally turn SYSTEMs access to the stereoscopic registry entries off because I need to swap left and right eyes for 3d vision to work on a passive screen and Nvidia drivers keep changing them back. And 'ctrl alt F11' does not work for me with the latest drivers. EDIT - I got the latest drivers to work. I had to enable SYSTEM access to the registry files before running DDU, then do a clean reinstall of the driver and, enable all the 3d vision keypresses then edit the registry all over again. Now the game plays without crashing and helifax's WIP patch works as expected. It does look almost complete - shadows, halos and the ability to control the HUD depth are the only things missing from the excellent DS1 profile now.

Helifax thank you , this game is superb with this fix. It is not perfect certe , but it is already very comfortable to play in 3D . The more compelling now are places where there are fires ( burning house , bonfire , etc ...) . There are two solutions to remove the effect of transparent blurred over these fires : switch to CM Mode or put quality effects down or off ( I do not know if the option off the menu ) . Also for my setup , I have a concern with the fire's rest. My game crash sometime when i approach this fires (3d or not 3d, it's the same). My solution is to put the quality of lighting too low. (if someone has this problem, you can try this).

Take the lights for example: - I ended up searching 1hour for Pixel Shaders related to lights! I found one that was somehow related to it. It generates tiles. In some parts of the game like FireLink Shrine you will notice the tiles move. This a "cheap" attempt to make Tile Lighting. I say cheap because normally you do this in Compute shaders and not Pixel shaders. The best part is that they are still in stereo so no need to actually correct them but something is still wrong. In the place where you fight the first boss, there are candles around the Arena. If you stay in the middle and just rotate the view around you will see the tiles jumping:) I tried to correct that...but the moment I dump the shader with 3DMigoto, the shader FREAKS out:( Also this shader didn't make the lights render in 3D, it was just controlling this tiles. So, in the end I found ONE vertex shader that has a secondary output that I corrected in 3D. But again! I can't use the standard formula: o2.x += stereo * (o2.w - convergence); because o2.w == 1 always and puts the lights so far apart that is wrong. So, I ended up with o2.x -= stereo; This works perfectly fine if convergence in game is 0 or 1. higher you start seeing that it doesn't line up properly:( I had the EXACT same issue in DS2 with the 2D character shadows. where I had to approximate so it looks OK-ish. Shadows: The shadows are already in 3D in a broken form. So to correct them I need to find the vertex sahder and make them 2D after which I need to find the Pixel and correct it there. I found 16 VERTEX shaders for shadows. Each shader is related to one part of the character shadows (ex: head, torso, arms, weapons etc). When I dumped some of them out again they started FREAKING out... So, at every step I take I need to fight this game:)) Dark Souls indeed both in-game and coding wise:))) masterotaku can say as well that probably in the DX11 version of DS2 he had the same issues and some things are "fixed" by approximating. This is because the effects and shaders aren't mathematically correct! They are approximations in 2D space to begin with:( Fixing this in 3D (where they need to be mathematically correct) is very hard... There aren't any patterns to fix things and looking at the shaders some of them are very confusing even in HLSL and even have some hard-coded values and numbers... It took me 1hour to actually find all the VS shaders for the HUD which again are like 12.. (normally fixing the hud in a game takes you 20 minutes and is spread across 6-10 shaders) But some of the HUD shaders are also "double" and are used for other things as well.... I agree the incentive for me to fix the game is pretty low currently since I am really disappointed that: it doesn't work in Surround, I wasn't able to hack it to work in Surround, no Surround fix exists yet:( If this changes I will probably pick it up and continue fixing it:) I know for 90% of people here this is not important, but I can't drive myself to play games on a single screen when I am sitting on my Surround desktop (all I see are those 2 big sidescreens that are BLACK...lol) and as a matter of fact I played/play the game on my Laptop:)) Now, if anyone wants to step in and drive this fix, PLEASE DO SO!!! I will do all I can to help out;) In any case I made an update to the fix: http://3dsurroundgaming.com/3DVision/DS3_WIP.rar - Removed halos around FIRE and "Absorb Souls" Animation. - The UI-depth can be tweaked from the d3dx.ini file from the X component:
[Constants] ; HUD depth x = 0.3 ; y = 1.0 ; z = 1.2 ; w = 2.0
Cheers! Edit: Sorry for the long post;)
