Why prevent us from using the monitor of our choice?
  1 / 8
If you are an unlucky purchaser like me, who got a new Samsung to play in 3D after a good experience with the older 2233rz, such as the S23A700D, it didn't take long at all for you to realize that it is nVidia who is preventing you from using the monitor in 3D Vision. I am one of those who was using the 285.62 drivers when I got the new model, and 3D Vision was working fine. But now, with the new drivers, there is no way to use the 3D Vision on the new monitor. nVidia is preventing me from using 3D Vision on my monitor of choice. Something has to be done. I suggest that someone patch their drivers.

Or you could buy a 3d vision certified monitor? I wish we could use any monitor we want, but we can't and that has always been the position.

The S23A700D doesn't have dual link DVI. It does have an HDMI plug... were you using 3DTV to run 3D on that monitor?? If you want to see a new monitor/TV added to 3DTV Play then open a support ticket.

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

But you are mistaken, the S23A700D does have a Dual Link input and is a 120Hz monitor. http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/consumer/computer-peripherals/monitors/consumer/LS23A700DS/XK?subsubtype=series-7-and-9-3d-led Nvidia's lack of support for it and my HDMI 1.3 projector, is why I bought a "RADEON 7970" for my new computer. Nice thing with the AMD card is that I no longer have issues using Cyberlink, Corel or Arcsoft when playing 3D Blu-rays. I still use my Nvidia rig for 3D games, either platform has it's plus and minuses.
Or you could buy a 3d vision certified monitor? I wish we could use any monitor we want, but we can't and that has always been the position.
Call me stupid. I had a Samsung 2233rz, which broke down. I needed a replacement ASAP. I bought the new "3D Ready" Samsung. It was working fine with 3D Vision even though it had its own glasses too. I found out I could use it (I was running the 296.xx drivers at the time) using a monitor EDID from a similar, certified monitor and it was working beautifully. I could even use either the nVidia glasses or the monitor glasses, which was great for me because the nV glasses really hurt my head bad. Then I found out that starting with the 3xx.xx drivers, there is NO WAY to use this monitor in 3D Vision. It's been too long now, I can't return it, and the new drivers break my monitor's 3D abilities. So I am kinda stuck in between still using the 2233rz, which works but doesn't have nearly the same image quality, or doing away with 3D, or using the crappy old drivers. It's all around a really bad deal, and it's all on nVidia's end. Funny how you say "buy a certified monitor" like nVidia is a saint and I'm the sinner... Nope, they decided to break 3D Vision on non-certified monitors starting with the 3xx.xx series drivers. They ADDED WORK into their drivers (ie spent money) to make sure to break these monitors. I don't understand, nV isn't even in the business of monitors. Why aggravate its users in such a way? It really makes no sense.

You should have researched more before buying the Samsung S23A700D http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-system-requirements.html Nvidia 3D Vision Kit. 3D Vision works with Nvidia 3D glasses. 3D Vision does not support other 3D glasses. Nvidia is not preventing you from using 3D with your 3D monitor. Nvidia is preventing you from using 3D Vision with your unsupported monitor via hacks. Use Tridef 3D or iz3D. Since you think Nvidia drivers are crappy and since 3D Vision glasses hurt your head, why do you want to use 3D Vision?

You should have researched more before buying the Samsung S23A700D
Wow, such an incredible amount of stupidity in one post! Amazing! I didn't have time to do more research. I purchased the new 3D ready Samsung within minutes of finding out that the previous 3D ready Samsung, the 2233rz, was broken and needed repairs. I don't just use my monitors for gaming. I also use them for work, and working with just my tiny 17" 4:3 secondary was going to be difficult, so I had to get a replacement ASAP for the 2233RZ. It isn't entirely moronic on my part to "jump" to the conclusion that, because the previous 3D ready Samsung worked with 3D Vision, that the new 3D ready would. It was hasty, yes, but I was rushed. Plus, IT DID WORK WITH 3D VISION WITH THE 296.xx DRIVERS, using an EDID from a certified monitor. ANY stereoscopic 3D system which runs at variable framerate will give most users headaches. That is why 60fps per eye is what is needed, and that's why I am running two GTX 570s on my i7 2600k @ 4.2ghz. Even with this setup I need to lower the settings from the max in many games in order to get 120fps, at least until I add a 3rd GTX 570. All in all, your post is pure fanboism garbage. You do not make one single valid point, instead chanting that nvidia is right and I am wrong wanting my stuff working like it use to before the 3xx.xx drivers. Please stay out of my thread, lowering my IQ to a level to reply to you is giving me headaches without stereo 3D.

He's not being a fanboy, but you're obviously angry, fair enough. The fact remains that prior to the R300 drivers, people could use pretty much any monitor they wanted by taking advantage of CRT mode and EDID hacks. Yes, it's a hack. I'm sorry if you thought the monitor was supported, but it isn't and never was. Nvidia presumably rely on the royalties to help support and develop 3d vision and the emergence of the emitter emulator meant that they had to do something to protect their IP. If you just want to rant and insult people then you're probably on the wrong forums.

Horus, Do you know why Nvidia does not support the S23A700D for 3D Vision? Why not simply add the S23A700D to the list of supported 3D Vision monitors? It is so easy, right? Why not do it? Show us how smart you are.

I don't know why, and honestly, I couldn't care less. It *WORKS* with 3D Vision, but they broke 3D Vision so that my monitor wouldn't work anymore. That's what matters to me. But since DirectX 11.1 will support 3D natively, all this is going to be a very short-lived situation, either way. nVidia is simply alienating me and for what? In some weeks, their 3D Vision will become obsolete, just like TriDef.

S23A700D is not supported because (AFAIK) 3d vision does not, in any way, support non-nvidia 3D glasses, such as the Samsung 3D glasses which are included with your monitor. 3D Vision is only for monitors without 3D glasses or with included nvidia 3D glasses. If Nvidia supports the S23A700D for 3D vision, then maybe some people will try to enable 3D vision without buying a 3D Vision kit.

Horace is right. I have S27a750D which is a damn good monitor. It was a great price and is 3D ready. It's my first 3D monitor. To say I should have researched more is missing the point completely. Nvidia are not in the monitor business. They could easily make this monitor work 100%. They make money for certified 3D from manufacturers.. that sucks.. I paid a lot for my GTX 590 and should not be restricted to hardware. What is this apple??

To add to my last post, my experience means I'll be moving to ATI... I was an NVIDIA fanboy.. my case is even an Nvidia branded thermaltake case. Used Nvidia from Gefore 4, had an 8800 Ultra, GTX 480 and now GTX 590. I'm sure there aren't hundreds of people in my position but i'm not the only disappointed consumer out there.
