Any way to have 3D without buying a new HDTV? From PC to 60hz HDTV v1.3 HDMI
I know my computer will run it, and from what I've seen my TV can handle it, just not at 1080p (1080i instead). I have a LG 42LH30. It supports HDMI 1.3 only, with 60hz refresh rate at 1080p.

Is there any way to play games on my PC in 3D without having to buy an expensive new HDTV? Could the PC itself duplicate the image then send it to the HDTV rather than relying on the HDTV to duplicate the image?

[/quote]Huh?

But to answer your question, no. You need new hardware, either a TV or a monitor.

So there are no alternatives? I read somewhere that one could send 3D streaming to a HDTV that only has HDMI 1.3, but the picture won't be as hi-def. HDMI 1.4 is faster and allows the image to be duplicated in the 3DTV, from what I understand.

Has anyone tried to do 3D on a non-3DTV?

There are some new techs emerging that allow 3D effects on standard, non-3D TVs using shader models and special glasses. TriOviz is one of the pioneering companies producing it if I recall correctly. Games like Batman AA GOTY and Enslaved for Xbox 360 are already using it. Keep in mind though the effect isn't great, nothing like 3D with a proper 3D display, but it does beat the old red/blue anaglyph solution.

That's really cool. Thanks for the awesome find. I wish it didn't require the game to be converted to that form of 3D. I want to use some sort of software that 3D-izes my whole OS (games, desktop, everything).

The Trioviz solution is anaglyph, it just uses other colour combinations than red+cyan so that people believe it's different than red+cyan.

The thing about Hdmi 1.3 and 3D is true, Hdmi 1.4 is not strictly required but the Tv needs to be able to understand the signal is 3D and needs to be able to display it as 3D.
In other words, these TVs are not just any HDTVs, they are real 3DTV released before hdmi1.4 was introduced.
