Lag between right and left eyes in Sli plus non-1.4 HDMI. Has been unplayable since CD 1.33! Co

This issue has been resolved in driver revisions greater or equal to 270.51. Hooray!

Info about my setup. I'm using a Mitsubishi WD-60735 with additional sync cable for emitter. I have sli-GTX480's with factory clocks. I'm using the HDMI connection from the primary GTX480 to drive the display. I also have another HDMI cable on the secondary card, which runs to my 1080p projector. I play most games with depth maxed, and convergence set for a little pop-out.

Spent literally months trying to figure this out. Issue is best described as follows, there is a slight delay between the image displayed on the right and left eyes when sli is enabled. This can be reproduced in any game; however, the easiest way to see it happening is in Starcraft 2 because it effects the mouse pointer. Enable 3d, but take your glasses off and wiggle the mouse, you will see an after image of the mouse pointer lagging slightly behind (there should be no second image at all because the mouse pointer converges at screen depth!). With SLI disabled, no such afterimage exists. This effect makes all games completely unplayable with sli enabled!

I have attempted a whole bunch of workarounds. Have tried another sli-bridge, different positions for the cards on the pci express bus, DVI to HDMI instead of straight HDMI, disabling speed step on the processor, forcing SRF sli using nvidia inspector, forcing single card on nvidia inspector, using d3doverider to get triple buffering, just one monitor connected, and one monitor performance mode. Nothing has help a bit so far except straight up disabling sli.

Dear Nvidia,

This is the FOURTH driver revision that has not addressed this issue. Please give me some type of response on this! This has been duplicated by other forum users: RS422 and engriffi so far. In the duplications, SLI plus non 1.4 HDMI seems to be the lethal combo. I will be publishing this around the internet, just as soon as I can figure out how to make a YouTube video of it.

Okay this is EXACTLY what I was attempting to explain here:

3D Vision 266.35 vs 258.96

Though, you state it in better and more accurate terms in which I was trying to describe. It's difficult to explain, you have to watch it and then have a headache later to know.

Anyways, since I have SLI, QUAD SLI, this is why I'm experiencing the same thing too. Hopefully, this is adressed soon.

And it sounds like the DLP is also another common denominator. I have a Mitsu WD-60C9.

I don't notice the issue in directx 10 tho.

Okay, I have confirmed that if I go into the Nvidia control panel and disable SLI the whole issue with 3D blurays and Directx 9 games goes away. Left and Right images are fluid and in sync and there is no lag. BUT, what is even more strange about this issue is that I'm using QUAD SLI. In other words, when I have QUAD SLI turned on in the Nvidia control panel, the QUAD SLI indicator bars do not come on in Directx 9 games anyway, but the problem is present with QUAD SLI activated in the panel. Turn it SLI and it is fine. Very strange. Stranger still, is if we consider that a single GTX 295 with QUAD SLI disabled is still a multi-gpu card, SLI on a single card if you will. Yet it works fine as long as [quad] SLI is diabled in the Nvidia control panel.

I watched Avatar 3D and played Fallout New Vegas (directx 9) with SLI disabled and everything is good.

Game that is not effected and works good with SLI disalbed or enabled: Battlefield Bad Company 2 (directx 10). Only difference is that QUAD SLI activated gives a very strong performance boost.

Thanks for your info, you are the fourth confirmed case of this issue. We can't all be nuts /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> I don't think dlp is one of the factors though, i think there was a guy on one of my other threads that experienced it on a hdmi lcd monitor.

Not to be doing Nvidia's job for them or anything, but the lack of seeing this on a dual head card, might point to the issue being one of timing between locations on the PCI-express bus, or perhaps something due to the length of the sli bridge vs the length of the hard bus on the dual-head card.

Also, Bloody was kind enough to put this up on the 3d-Vision blog

http://3dvision-blog.com/3d-vision-issue-with-sli-setup-with-3d-dlp-hdtv-and-not-only/

perhaps we could get a response from Nvidia now? Chirp chirp chirp . . . or should we all start tossing our 1500$ DLPs?

Yeah I agree, I think this is an issue of two cards talking to one another across different PCI-ex slots. Since ONE GTX 295 operates on only a single slot, that might be the reason why it gets away with the problem.

This really needs to get fixed. We just have to keep reminding them about it.

I've reported the issue to Andrew Fear and hopefully we are soon going to have a fix for this problem.

Also I've noticed that the lag appears as well when using the new stereo 3D Windowed Mode (Fullscreen Windowed in Starcraft 2's options) and you have SLI enabled, with SLI disabled it is also Ok in that mode. That of course affects only 3D Vision on an LCD monitor as the windowed 3D mode is not yet supported over 3DTV Play on a HDMI 1.4 TV and I don't have a 3D DLP TV to confirm for that. But since the issue also appears in the Windowed 3D mode, this means that it is something more serious that needs to be fixed for all of us SLI users...

Thanks. I've also had private discussions about this with Manuel, so they are definitely aware of the problem.

I think this ALSO might get them to finally implement QUAD SLI with 3D Vision properly just by dint of working through the problem.

This immediately had me thinking that resize desktop was the issue, as that would be a commonality between windowed mode and HDMI. Due to over-scan you have to use resize desktop to get a usable image on a TV, and obviously, windowed mode would also be resized; however, this was not the case. I tested multiple "normal" HD resolutions and it had no effect on the lag.

This issue is still present in CD 1.45 (266.58 Geforce/3D Vision and 266.58 USB controller). This really needs to be addressed!

Rown_u, thank you for that confirmation. Directx 9 is the culprit. It also is present in 3D Blurays in the exact same way as Directx 9 with SLI enabled. Disable SLI and the movie is fine. Though you don't need SLI for movies anyways, it's just the hassle of having to go turn it off and on that is a large pain. Thanks again.
