As far as I see it steam box is a 'console' that can be upgraded
That's part of the problem. When you buy an xbox or playstation, you know it's going to play the latest games for the next 7 years. What's the appeal of buying a pseudo-PC that will be obsolete in 2 years? Just to play a bunch of games that are mostly available on consoles anyway? I can't see the idea appealing to mainstream gamers. As for serious PC gamers....Will you buy a Steam Machine next year? Yeah, me neither. Steam Machines concerns me because, to me, it looks like an act of desparation from a company that I didn't realise, until now, had any reason to feel desparate.

yes I'm not going to get one (I'm going to get x1 and ps4 on the first price cut to play their exclusives but thats another story - I mean single player exclusives as I'm not interested in paying for multiplayer) but thats because I have a decent PC I'm going to upgrade. It might turn out that the consoles will not become obsolete they would just play latest games on low details without AA but in 3 years you would be able to drop like $300 and enjoy them in high again. I dont know what they plan exactly is so I guess we'll have to see. Another thing is that steamOS is good for Valve since they're heavy depended on windows so its a good backup plan for the future in case something goes wrong with MS. As far as I'm not really interested in getting steambox I'm definitely going to try SteamOS. If it can meann it so we can get rid of the middleman (windows that is) and get more out of what we already have it might turn out that we have more powerful devices than we thought. Hardware is one thing, software is another, from what I see nowadays the games we're getting are just rushed packed with 'new-tech' just for the sake of it being there. I'm aware of the fact that I keep mentioning UE4 but for me it looks like they're taking their time to actually finish their engine not just rush their game. As for the Witcher I'm going to preorder it at full price just to show them support for being DRM Free.

Witcher 2 showed up as a playable game with Nvidia's GRID service when I was testing out my new Nvidia Shield. Along with all the other Nvidia features going into Witcher 3 at least we know that this won't be an AMD-featured game. This might not mean nothing as far as 3D Vision is concerned but there is always hope!

Short and shocking. Everybody is asking - are they really in-game fotages ?! http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/g82gj1/the-witcher-3--wild-hunt-vgx-2013--world-premiere-trailer BTW: One guy at VGX asked developers from Crystal Dynamic about 3D in Tomb Raider in PS4 version like they did for PC and He start talking something about learning system and other things...and then saind "no". To be correct - i am not jumping into this all debate about consols or steam box vs PC (from above this post). This is still about Witcher and 3D. Just casual - this Developer did this on purpose and they will do it again because they like it. Same as CD Project RED.

yeah it drifted off topic quite a bit :) if you check out the snowdrop engine from the division it also looked amazingly good. The petition for the PC version was a successs but I guess we would end up with like 100 people signing if we start one for a 3d vision support :/ as for the witcher I remember when I fist played it I was dying a lot (yeah you're relatively weak at the start) as all the games that came out get me accustomed to the easy mode, also I was suprised that I had to go into flotsam woods and look for things myself without them pinging on the minimap than it was actually useful to read the lore and know thing or two about the monsters. I really loved that mechanic and I wasnt aiming at having the most powerful build/gear as I was enjoying hte notion that I'm not that super-hero that can just go anywhere and kill everything with random button mash. The trailer looks great and I'm definitely going to get this game. I just hope we would either have working dx11 wrapper or the game will ship with 3dvision suport... there is also new witcher book that have been published just recently so it might be a good read before the game ships.

Me too bro. I was dying like a fool. Didn`t change my mind tho. I`ll be playing Hardcore Mode in W3. I did the same mistake - didn`t know about special types of spells or weapons which worked better on each different type of enemy. Also Alchemy - been ignoring it at the beginning. Anyway i treat W2 as a good preparation before W3. About Snowdrop Engine - it looks epic. Only thing is that new Killzone been showed up preaty well as well but it is kind of weak right now (when played). Are you saying tha petition been positivly reviewed by the Division`s developers ?

yeah I liked the mechanic of the alchemy and weapon temporary improvements, and they lasted like 10min not 20sec as I was used to in other games. Not sure if you read the books but that was how the Witcher works and I'm greateful to them that they tried to convert this into a game and it worked pretty well, definetley something unique. as for the engines you're right you cant really judge them before you can actually play the game... although snowdrop seems to have several features killzone is lacking like the dynamic weather system based on particles (the part with the snow) and the destruction layer (the part where you shoot the car is amazing). Can't wait to start playing REAL next-gen games :) as for the division yeah I've signed it as well - http://www.change.org/petitions/ubisoft-release-tom-clancy-s-the-division-for-pc if we can get like 100k people to sign 3d vision support petition on any game I think we would have a good shot on making about everything that comes out 3d ready :D

As much I am a fan of the The Witcher series, I am cautiously optimistic since CD Projekt will be developing their third installment for these new powerful graphic consoles. I fear the common denominator of the console will once again strip it and dumb the game down. 3D Vision support doesn't seem to make business sense (as much as I want to be wrong about this) Since the The Witcher 3 will be a multiplatform release, CD Projekt doesn't need to cater to a small group of 3D Vision enthusiasts because their reach is now all platforms and new customers. Recent youtube videos I've seen for in game footage of new game releases as it relates to the PS4 and Xbox One, look like nothing more than interactive movies with QTE's. I want to play games, not watch movies and get minimal opportunities where I can mash a few buttons. I really hope I am wrong. All this hype of graphic fidelity is just that, hype. Gameplay still reigns supreme and many new titles are all sheen with no substance. Graphics, Graphics and more Graphics, developers want to jam a story down our throats while being showy in the process.......what about giving control back to the player....

from what I've heard in the interviews they said that the game will be available on the PC first and than they're going to 'port it' to consoles. They've also said that they wanted to stay true to the books and extend the notion that you're a monster slayer giving you more incentives to actually learn about the lore. The game is kind of different and I like it that way. Hopefully they wont fuck it up :)

This game is three years in development - i don`t think about it as a just another sequel. They already had the game engine (only updated at this point - with 3D core still in there) so it is only gameplay, story and evolution of everything what was in previous one. Three years for that - men, that`s a lot of time to do something right. Anyway we talking here about (white and ) RED and this people are PC gamers and they were talking about this plenty times - "power of PC" they use to say.

This is CDProjekt. They're a very PC-centric developer who cares about RPGs and who's demonstrated a commitment to listening to their core players. Though I disagree with you about gameplay "reigning supreme" sentiment. The gameplay didn't "reign supreme" in either of the first Witchers, because they were always faithful to narrative first. Yet I'd argue that they had more substance than almost any other game I can think of. Bioshock Infinite is another good example where the narrative was the substance while the gameplay was mere sheen. The first two Witcher games were at their best during dialogue scenes, and this one will be no different. The games are story-heavy, because they have to be. (Yet even so, the story in Witcher 2 was highly player-driven.). Also, unlike most RPGs, the Witcher games aren't loot-fests where you spend most of your time in the inventory window choosing between your +12 sword of awesomeness and +11 sword of badassery. The world CDProjekt are trying to portray is meant to be a semi-believable one, so that kind of Dungeons&Dragons silliness wouldn't fit well. And finally, CDProjekt have always tried to make the combat feel exciting, rather than just being a game of numbers. The emphasis is less on slow-thinking strategy and more on quick-thinking decision-making. I don't think any of those things will change for the third game, though it sounds like maybe you weren't overly fond of them the first time round. But if you're fine with those above things, I don't think you need to worry. The sort of interactive QTE-driven movie you're describing seems virtually impossible to me. That's just not what CDProjekt is about. I would be seriously shocked if it happened. However, one thing I can promise you: it will be flawed and buggy. CDProjekt are incredibly ambitious. Witcher 1 was astounding for a debut. Witcher 2 was astounding...period. Witcher 3 will literally aim to be the greatest game ever made. There will be hiccups! But they will all eventually be ironed out - CDProjekt's post-game commitment is excellent. So, I won't be playing it on day one, or even month one. In all honesty, I hope I can wait out a year or so, because I played both the first games a year after release, and they were still receiving important updates and revisions! But I will - like tehace - be buying it on day one, because CDProjekt is the sort of company you just have to support. Even though they're branching out into consoles, I still think they'll remain one of the PC's most faithful developers.

Also, I believe they're going DX11 this time. They're saying that Witcher 3's world is going to be bigger than Skyrim. Bethesda takes longer than 3 years to make their games, and even with their extensive experience, they always end up a buggy mess until modders fix them up. I have faith in CDProjekt, but the level of ambition they're going for this time is scary. In an ideal world, they'd take the 'release it when it's ready' approach like Valve or Blizzard, but I doubt they have that kind of money.

on the side note the english interviews have either wrong questions or wrong answers (as the devs are struggling a little in their engllish) that being said I've watched some interviews with them in their native polish and I was really grateful to hear several things: 1. They're not going to dumb the game down and try to please everybody, their main goal is not to bring new people in but to please the fan base they already have, which is great as most devs nowadays do the opposite. 2. They want to finish the series here. They dont want to milk this all the way to Witcher 7. They can make another story within the same world (like you might play as yenefer the wizard or something but for the geralt of rivia withcer 3 is the definitive end). 3. They're DRM free and would like to release dev. kit for the community relativeley early. 4. When asked about multiplayer they said they're experimenting with it but if they dont find it to fit the game as to enhance the experience they're not going to bother with it.

Since we all waiting for some news from developers i though that you might be interested about the guy who created all CGI animations for all Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077.
