Shopping for CRTs
Does anyone know any particular model of CRT that works well? Also, are there any stores that still carry CRTs?

Moreover, when shopping for one, I want both horizontal and vertical ranges to be in excess of 100Hz, correct? 100 is the minimum for vertical and horizontal scanning?

I had a mitsubishi diamond. It did high refresh and high res. I now have the samsung 2233rz and its better than any crt I had. Even though the resolution doesnt go as high, when you crank a crt over 1920x1200, its fuzzy anyways. The pixels are just blurry. If the cost is within your budget, and you want to do 3d, I would go with the samsung. I used crts for about 8 years in 3d and when I switched to this new display, its just plain better. I was afraid the resolution would scare me, but it turns out I can see more clarity with this lower resolution (1680x1050). People say ghosting is bad, but I dont know anyone saying ghosting is worse than a crt. That was not my experience. I get less ghosting than the slew of crts I used to use. My advice would be, dont do it, go with one of the newer 3d lcd displays.

You could go to Goodwill Computers or a computer resell shop. I bet they would have some CRTs for dirt cheap. I got my Dell 1130 for free and it's capable of 120hz, but I run it at 100hz so I can do 1600x1200. 100hz is minimum supported, but I have played in 85 hz and it's tolerable, however if the CRT only goes up to 85hz, I don't think it will pass the setup test.

There should to be fast-phosphorus CRTs - projectors and monitors, these were very expansive and hard to find. The normal CRTs will work with strong ghosting with shutter glasses. Situation with LCDs is similar, but maybe a little better.
Good CRTs were for example Mitsubishi 2070p, Sony F520, - they can be used in 120 Hz modes in 1024x768 at least.

ebay, and similar second-hand

If there was free international shipping it was rather more better. :)

i wouldn't spend more then $20 on a used crt, with enough patience and keeping an eye out you can find people vertually giving away good 20" fast crts. the thing is to look up the model and system specs. personally i wouldn't mess with any crt that has a horizontal refresh rate lower then 130khz. this will let you game at 1600x1200@100hz. on a good crt the ghosting is going to be the same as on any lcd. ALL shutterglasses will have SOME ghosting because they simply can't block 100% of the light so you will always see part of the other image when it's HIGH contrast (white on black or hard white lines like on mirrors edge). now the question is are you seeing ghosting because the monitor can't refresh the image fast enough meaning your see part of the previous residual image when the shutter is open on that eye.

you really do need a FAST crt for proper 3d, so if your going to spend any real money on it your better off getting a 1080p 3d ready lcd.

i've gotten an hp p1130 off craigslist for a trade of 25 blank cdr's (guy was emptying his garage). and i've gotten a free sony g520 (same trinitron tube) for free from someone that bought an lcd.
