It's been fun but it is time to go Building a new rig
  1 / 2
Well guys, the last 4 months have been fun but I think 3D has a ways to go. I really enjoy it when it works, but I find I spend more time tweaking than playing nowadays soo....

I will be posting my 3D vision setup with all original cable and box on Ebay today. I told the wife to set the reserve to $129 if any of you guys are interested. Our screen name is Oscarmayerbarr. It is in mint condition.

I think 3d vision is great and I would still reccommend it to anyone, I just would rather play than tweak at this point

and...

I am going to build my first computer on my own...wish me luck. I will be traveling over to the SLI forums for that.

Thanks everyone for all your help here

Sorry to hear that, but good luck on ebay. I'd certainly bid on it if I could, but I have too many other things planned for my money right now.

That's terrible!

How long have you had it? When you say tweaking, what problems are you having exactly?

Maybe he had the same problem I'm having where I'm never satisfied with my depth/convergence settings, as well as in-game graphical settings. If I can't max a game's detail outright, I have trouble settling on which lowered settings to use and more often then not I'll start every 3D session with said game tweaking the settings and altering the depth/convergence. This is especially hard for a person who doesn't like settling for lowered settings in the first place.

That's why I can't wait to upgrade my computer, so at least half of that problem (deciding on lowered settings) would be taken care of by way of being able to smoothly max out more games in 3D. That wouldn't really solve not being satisfied with depth/convergence settings though. It's always a constant battle of getting it just right so the objects' size are true to life, but I always enter a game thinking I set it wrong last time I played :P

I'm pretty fed up as well. Still waiting for the 3D crosshair/low fps issue in HL2 to be addressed...a year later...

Been thinking of selling my unit as well, when it works it's nice, but so many issues with so many games, we're nothing more than beta testers.

Good Luck in the future. sorry that you are leaving 3d vision. But honestly if you aren't going to play using 3d vision or any other technology that puts PC gaming above console gaming then I would suggest just getting a console. Cheaper in the long run and no tweaking issues.

I have been gaming since pong (console). (i am sure i forgot some systems here. No Intellivision.

I cannot stand PC guys that make console comments. Without console, PC gaming would not exist. When was the last time you put in a PC game and it worked right off the bat and no tweaking or patches. I love my PC, don't get me wrong and I can appreciate a preference but talking down console gaming is just silly. You have to admit, we are early adopters and sometimes we jump on too soon (beta max, HD DVD, 3D VISION). It is ok.

I like 3D, it just need to mature more. Give it another 2-3 years.

MSM- My new build will include 2 GTX470's and a black edition 6 core AMD and as you can tell, you kind of hit a sore spot. Console gaming (in terms of ease of use and fun) Destroys PC gaming.

I have been gaming longer than you... How?

I played a game on a IBM mainframe through a VDU that predates PONG.

In the last few years to my surprise the need for tweaking and first day patches has almost dissapeared. Bc2 worked right out the box in 2d for me and Dragon Age origins, hell the thing's didn't even patch day one.

I'm running Vista 64 (the worst OS EVER) 280 SLI at huge OC DDR3 well past it should be on a 790i (not 100% reliable vs X58) Raid 0 USb sound and a wireless mouse. And a Core 2 Quad that has run stable over 4GHZ for 24 months. pretty much everything you could do to have unhappy computing and I have not had a BSOD for over 12 months...... And no one is more surprised than me.

You quite right to offload the Gen 1 3D screens now, even the 2d GEN 3d LCD's have faults (although pretty minor now) so the cash for that can be put into beefing up your PC.

470 sli will blow anything within reason "out the ball park" and sli is a mature tech now (out of the beta stage). In the mean time the results of your hard work in 3d and mine in triple head and high HD and sli is now going to benefit thousands of gamers.

This year everything is starting to become mature 2009 saw Sli and Dx10 wireless gamer grade mice and USB 2 gamer grade audio "mature" so they are stable and add benefit and are not a technical headaches. 2010 sees 3d, triple head and hopefully CF x3 and SLi x3 mature with Dx11. This is big stuff after a 2 year lapse after crysis we have had some good games adding to gameplay ideas but not much pushing the boundaries of gaming in general or GFX.

So thanks for the tweaking in 3d (I'm sure you feedback help here and in other places) Enjoy SLi and even 2d triple head.

perhaps I can now tweak 3d and 3d triple head as I don't have to tweak SLI anymore ;)

And roll on the LED 3d monitors and even better drivers for 3d and surround over the next 12 months.

Gaming has never been this good.

PS I looking forward to natal on my X360 and the SOny wands for my PS3 and looking forward to either working on the PC in 2011-11 with 3dx3, which frankley put PC gaming in Star Trek Holodeck territory..... And we are almost there.

Your old enough to remeber the exciment of loading a arcade clone on a home PC in 16 colors or the first 16 bit games showing a home PC could out shine the aracade or consoles (as during the 8bit period the consoles or arcades would almost always outshine the 8 bit home computer version).

So like you I luagh when people knock the consoles (which are nothing but closed OS PC's now) as it's the game industry that has provided this and then take advantage of hardware not the other way round so far.

So for 3d and triple head and motion capture motion sensor gameplay the following still stands:

"Ad Astra per Aspera"

The timeframe for maturity could be less than 6-18 months.

Hmmm ...9 out of 10 games, I'd say!

But it's truly, flat out, "Without PC's, console gaming wouldn't exist." Take the cover off of a console, if you can break the crazy fasteners ...plus, you're stuck with hardware and video quality someone else decided is best for you.

It's a tough argument, both ways.

My opinion is a Console is nothing more than a Computer that has a dedicated job (playing games and maybe some media). There's Hardware and an OS that runs the game software. Video games have been around a long while. Some ppl argue that without PC gaming there would be no console gaming some argue the other way around. I think without PC gaming there would be no console gaming.

I didn't mean to offend you however if it isn't for the added features that PC gaming brings, such as S3D or even multiple display gaming then in my opinion it's just simpler to stick with a console.
To be honest I didn't get my first console until 2007 or was it 2008, before that all my gaming was done on some form of a PC. It wasn't untill 2009 that I got the 3d vision kit and returned to PC gaming more or less. I found it much easier to fire up my PS3 than to Install a game and tweak it on my PC.

Anyway Just my 2 cents.

Interesting...
I've been with the video game scene (and industry) since day 1: Playing Pong in bars, on to Space Invaders, and eventually the big classics like Pac-Man, Centipede, etc.. Owned just about every computer (Atari 800/400, C64, Apple II, IIe, IIC, Atari ST, Amiga and finally on to PC). As for Game consoles, my list is 8X longer, so it's just easier to say, I've had everything under the sun. What I have currently: Quad Core PC, PS3, 360, Wii, DSi & PSP. Recently (like 4 days ago) I became an owner of the Acer GD235 and 3-D Vision. Previously, I had an IZ3D Monitor set up - but now, it's sitting on my rug, up for adoption. Simply put, the Nvidia solution blows the IZ3D back to 2D, seriously - no comparison. I've hardly had to do any tweaking with games, and what little I've done, was easy enough unlike the IZ3D which drove me frigging crazy...not to mention you'd never eliminate ghosting. Plus, the IZ3D drivers would flake out forcing you to exit and reload drivers sometimes a number of times in one evening.

Getting back on track, with all the consoles owned, I always go back to PC for gaming and wind up sticking with it much longer then my console "spurts". The resolutions on games are always higher, the options extensive, modding ability, quicker loading, faster saving, cheaper prices for the same big-name title, a keyboard, emulators & an endless barrage of browser and flash games without having to fork over $20 for the same game on Xbox Live Arcade or PSN; I can list advantages all night. The two major advantages for consoles I see: easy of use (just load and play) and great for partying with others around a large screen with a great audio set up in the big living room. Then again, even the PC is at a point where it's more than capable of providing a similar experience. I don't even know why I brought all this boring-ass stuff up, but it was basically to say - you can take my console games with no problem, but my PC is the hub for all of my electronic entertainment. My recently purchased 3D vision experience only reinforced this preference.
Interesting...

That's a loaded question! :D

Over a year now, but my first solution was prior to Nvidia's GeForce 3D Vision, and that was also based on Nvidia drivers several years ago.

It's a shame you weren't around back then because you would be amazed how far the tech has come and is moving ahead at an accelerated rate.

If you are trying to find the best convergence/separation settings, there are several guides here: http://www.mtbs3d.com/index.php?option=com...9&Itemid=57

If you can share some game examples and screen shots, maybe the community can help you out?

Chopper
