Let's make a giant list of all NVIDIA 3D Vision failures.
1 / 9
Let's make a giant list of all features that should be implemented with NVIDIA 3D Vision.
1. 3D mouse cursor. Based upon all the evidence and how the laser crosshair works, it should be fairly simple to toggle the laser crosshair into a fully functional depth mouse cursor. I shouldn't have to reinvent anything, I'd just use the laser crosshair that's already made and set it's position dynamically based upon mouse cursor position.
2. Create an advanced customizable hot key system that gives more control over everything and gives you depth and conv presets. This way you can instantly change depth/conv with the press of a hotkey. You could set a "low" hotkey "med" hotkey and "high" hotkey based upon the scene in game.
3. Make sure the existing bar shows both convergence & depth and exactly what the value is.
4. Add a check box that enables/disables warning messages shown in game by NVIDIA driver.
5. Give an option that ties the right mouse button to activation of the nvidia laser crosshair if the user prefers.
6. Make it so you can take as many screenshots as you want and you can set the quality value in the interface.
7. Make it so even if you end process on a game it wouldn't risk the glasses staying permanently on.
8. Make a reset sync option.
9. Create a hook that could scan ANY mouse cursor in any game and disable the image tied to it programmaticly.
10. Create movement offsets for any object (literally anything) that doesn't show up properly in stereo 3D you could move it to where it needs to be. FPS hit? Who cares at least i'd try. After renaming exe profiles it seems that this should be possible based upon the results i've seen in game.
11. Open up as much as possible to give the user as much control in every aspect to enhance their stereo 3d experience, aka advanced options.
12. Have an icon that shows battery life.
13. Don't hard code profiles into a DLL and instead have them auto-update by sending down XML files holding unique info for each game. Then the DLL will scan the XML and use those values amongst generic methods/functions. I doubt you need a unique function for each game. The fact that renaming exe's has beneficial results leads me to believe the profiling system could be vastly improved.
14. Advanced Control Panel for each game. The user would be able to scan through a list of 2D objects and set their transparency to 0 or 100 and save it and have the changes take place in game. Then I'd also allow this to be tied to hotkeys. TRidef has this but nvidia doesnt'? fail.
15. Fix the issue of fogvolumes and dof causing halos in stereo 3d.
The list goes on and on.
Please add all your concerns to this post.
I'm sick and tired of NVIDIA being lazy. They need to be more aggressive in the beta driver department. Make some radical changes and move this technology forward for f sake.
I've recommended this technology to three friends and they all ended up returning their glasses back to fry's electronics. This is unacceptable. The only reason I'm able to enjoy stereo 3d with nvidia 3d vision to the level I can is because of my 15 year IT background. The average user shouldn't have to have IT experience just to enjoy stereo 3d. *punches wall*.
All directx games must have a 3D ready stamp from nvidia 3d vision. Instead of dicking around with 3d vision live, move the devs from that project into enhancing every game profile to 3d ready from excellent, good fair.
1. go to gamespot reviews for PC
2. go down the list from the latest released games with the highest score all the way to 1995 and make sure every game review with 9.0 and above is 3D ready.
At the driver level you have so much control. There is no excuse for you to have games with a "Good" or "Fair" rating, especially games that have a high review score on metacritic.
Your bottom line is to "sell glasses and the emitter" and the only way you can do that is by ensuring that every game has a 3D ready stamp even if it means your devs have to stay after work and work an extra 3 hours. If they can't deliver FIRE THEM.

Guess you didn't get that job.

I'm not looking for a job or to get paid. I'm not interested in moving to san fran either. I just wanted to help them for free. It's pretty sad and pathetic that nearly all their problems could be solved within a few weeks up to a few months. But they just sit on their asses doing nothing.
I just want to work on their software for free and fix all the problems as charity work then move on. I already have a full time job that i'm happy with. I just want to play my favorite games flawlessly in stereo 3d and want the same for everyone else. I was willing to give them 120+ hours free in charity work to help them out since they are so incompetent.
When you see a retarded kid in the playground trying to bounce a ball, you naturally want to help him improve.
Think about it, how many times have nvidia 3d vision users been spammed to death by warning messages that didn't need to be shown (cough dlp projector owners). Little things like that should of been fixed A LONG TIME AGO. I can improve nvidia 3d vision ease of use ten fold in one afternoon.
You know what? Forget me. There are 10 other competent developers who visit this forum who could help out nvidia better than their existing lazy devs.
NVIDIA 3D Vision lead programmer needs to understand that his developers are burned out. They need a vacation or they need to be fired. Hire up a fresh batch of 3d devs and let's move this b.itch forward.

First off I really do want to thank you for the passion you have for the product. Despite that fact that you are calling us lazy, I do appreciate that you are taking the time to post here.
You have listed a lot of good ideas and features. Some we have thought of already and some we havent. We will look at each and everyone and decide if we can do it.
I would be happy to respond to each of your requests and tell you want is possible and what isnt possible. Do you want me to do that?
Please understand our engineering team is not burnt out and many of us still do work 11+ hrs a day. I take no lunch break and instead spend any breaks I have responding to these forums.

Hey Andrew,
As a LONG time Nvidia owner and 3D enthusiast from back-in-the-day, *I* would like to know the answers to the questions above whether Jenson is interested in them or not. So *PLEASE*, on behalf of ALL of us who love this technology and see it as the BEST thing in gaming, address the reasonable points he (and many others) have made.
In addition to the listed questions, mine pertains more to the meta question of *why* you have not, after almost two years, opened this up to the community. That to me is a very important question precedent to all these issues.

I have a suggestion and it is a fundamental one. How about Nvidia fix QUAD-SLI in 3D Vision for every API especially dx9. How long have we been waiting for the delivery of that promise??
We've been asking about that one for a while now and no one ever responds. Perhaps with your upcoming dual gpu the gtx 590 this will finally be addressed for the gtx 295 and QUAD-SLI. Time for you guys to make dual gpu owners' hope a reality.

Andrew,
Sorry if I was imprecise in my words. I meant "open up" as in opening up the drivers/profiles for community development. It was not a comment on your communication with the community. You have, by far, over the six or so years I've been on this forum either posting or lurking, the BEST Nvidia rep to engage. Seriously.

GHAA! Stop that! Bad engineers! Keep that up and we'll have to unionize and then we'll all have to pay union dues! /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
Question: When a game plays in 3D, it does an offset for the right and left eye. Could we please have an option to double that offset for one eye and zero it for another? Then we could simply close one eye to make the 3D effect vanish. It would just be like squinting down the barrel of a rifle. It should be handy in games where you need to pick something out on the screen with a 2D screen depth pointer, too.
Also an observation: "3D Vision Weekly Questions" and "GeForce 3D Vision QA Response" sticky topics were both started so the 3D Vision team could answer our questions. Both died almost immediately. Why are these still stickied!? The topics have become painful jokes now.
P.S. Jenson, as I said before, pointers often impart information. The pointer will turn into a hand if you can interact with an object, or it will turn red over an enemy, or plenty of other things. I really don't think it would be smart to have NVIDIA replace the pointer with something they make. It would be far better if the game itself made a 3D object to use as a pointer. It might be possible in a mod, too.

I understand what you're saying. In Dragon Age it's exactly like you said. The cursor images constantly change depending what object they are over. But I've actually sat there and analyzed every cursor. Ultimately you can play the game without the different cursor images. They are not vital at all. For example when you aim a fireball at the ground you still get a 2D circle image on the landscape. After playing a few RPG games I've concluded that a nvidia 3D mouse cursor can still be used instead of a 2D one. In every RPG game I've tested i've been able to find the cursor image files and delete them or replace them with transparent ones.
We could make threads on this forum called "Dragon Age Cursor Pack" which people can download to make the in game cursors transparent thus paving the way for someone to enable the laser cursor (instead of the laser crosshair). I'd be happy to edit .cur files and upload them here in rar.

Well like you said, ultimately it's best for the game developer to do so. But what if they don't? I'd rather have plan B than no plan at all. At least with Plan B you can play with the depth and conv up higher and get a better 3D experience at the expense of dynamic changing 2d cursors (which really isn't that helpful).
Then when you have someone like us who wouldn't mind doing the work for free, there is no excuse not to have it available. What's the harm in having the laser crosshair follow the mouse around? :P It's such a trivial thing and so easy to implement.

How are you going to do this? Objects are viewed in the frustrum dynamically based on the game (some objects move and some don't). What if there are 1,000 objects in the graphics engine that aren't rendered in stereo properly? What if only 10 of those objects need to be available on a particular level?

Well in the case of Mass Effect 2 I've renamed the EXE and the halo problem was eliminated however the lights seem to offset to the right. If you could move those lights back into their original position Mass Effect 2 would have a 3D ready stamp of approval, I kid you not.
A 1000 objects not rendered properly? Geez my first instinct is to iterate through them and set them to their correct position but would that take place every frame? It might kill the FPS.

Exactly. Which is why #10 = not possible unless you are the developer of the game. There is no way to make an interface that can "correct" objects in a game.

I have a Asus 3D vision notebook(with 3D display) and an external Samsung 3D Vision Display/Monitor. However, the emitter can only allow the 3D notebook display for 3D and not both. The 3D notebook apparently only work with my older DLP projector I bought 4 years ago through the analog VGA output port, though only one will work (which is fine) This is important for video editing, I would like hav the bigger external monitor work in 3D during editing to serve as a preview 3D monitor.

1. 3D mouse cursor.

Thank you,
Paul

I will look through his questions and respond tomorrow.
I'm not sure what you dont mean by open up. I have posted on this forum about 1200 times already and I try to respond to almost every question that is asked of me. What questions remain unanswered? Ask away, I'll respond as best as I can.

What say you?! :P

I honestly have no idea.

Exactly. Which is why #10 = not possible unless you are the developer of the game. There is no way to make an interface that can "correct" objects in a game.
