Is this really true, or is it just skipped because CRTs are such old-school clunkers and nobody has them anymore?

This model has been used in the past for old school stereo.[url="http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA415157&Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf"] A quite in-depth analysis is available[/url] in fact.
It of course is limited by VGA input only.

The guide linked above says that the best compromise between resolution and refresh seems to be 1152x862 at 117Hz for that CRT.


Will 3D Vision work with sub-120Hz update rates like say 100 Hz?

anything 100hz and above will work

3D Vision works with CRT monitors but you'll get a lot of ghosting, especially if you increase the depth level

Why? Because of the phosphor persistence time?

I know best quality is on DLP projectors, and LCDs have ghosting problems too, but is the CRT even worse than the LCD?

If you have one in a closet, order 3D Vision and you'll get to experience 3D on the "cheap". I started with a Dell that did 1600x1200 @100hz and 3D on games like Avatar was still mind-blowing. I recently got a DLP projector though and it's like night and day. It's not to say I wasn't impressed by the CRT, but ghosting is definitely a factor.
If you have one in a closet, order 3D Vision and you'll get to experience 3D on the "cheap". I started with a Dell that did 1600x1200 @100hz and 3D on games like Avatar was still mind-blowing. From the 3D vision FAQ on the nvidia site, under supported screens-

-100 Hz and higher analog CRTs

So yes they are supported and your screen should work fine. You will get some ghosting though. I'm using a Dell P1130 21" CRT (sony trinitron tube).
