Just bought 3dtv play..
  1 / 4
though I hate only 5 installation limit of this software, I bought it purely for hoping nvidia to fix this in the future. Now I am trying 3dtv play on my new Vizio XVT3D474SV. So far so good. It works perfect on 720p@60hz. I suppose it looks kinda ugly due to me being so used to 1080p@60hz on my 3d monitors. Still, games like batman and skyrim looks noticeably better than playing it on console 3d mode. Batman arkham city on xbox 360 didn't even look like it's 3d even with 3d mode enabled but 3dtv play with 720p@60hz batman arkham city actually look decent. I really wish there's way to make this 1080p@60hz 3d. 720p on 47 inch screen looks kinda ugly. :(

At least 2d counterpart is perfect thx to vizio xvt3d474sv's awsome 2d picture quality. I hope they release some sort of converter or something so make it run at 1080p@60hz 3d by connecting 2 or 3 hdmi cable to tv or something. I have 3 hdmi port left that I am not using so I don't really mind plugging extra hdmi cable or two if it can allow me to go 1080p@60hz 3dtv play. :(

Combining multiple inputs to increase the resolution is usually only for professional hardware. It's simply unheard of on consumer hardware.

If it were passive or supported checkerboard, TriDef would support it at 1920x1080x60 input.

As far as the 3DTV Play activation. I was the one pointing out the activation limit to people after having seen it in the 3DTV Play FAQ http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2892

Andrew Fear has officially stated

"Once you activate 3DTV Play the first time it will not count as a reactivation with every driver install as long as you dont uninstall the 3DTV Play Activation Utility. The Utility and drivers are separate.

So Buy it, activate it, and install drivers as much as you want.

If you run out of activations, we can restart it for you."

In this thread http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=217470&st=0

So the activation limit, should no longer be of concern.

Yep, that's exactly what I said. We simply put the 5 activation limit on to control piracy a bit, but if you are a legitimate customer with a sales order, dont worry, we will take care of you.

You made the decision to buy the wrong 3DTV, so what did you expect? Had you bought a samsung, you would be 3D gaming in native res 1920x1080 at supersmooth 60 fps instead of butt ugly 720P in broadcast video pixel processing mode.
Hopefully others will learn from your mistake.

My next TV will be one of those Vizio's as well. I have a good size family who wants to watch and play 3d. So passive is the way to go for 6 sets of glasses. Plus, Vizio is relatively inexpensive compared to the 'larger' brands. I really won't mind 720p@60 since my kids won't be able to tell the difference, and since the kids pc is still my powerful previous gaming machine, I can crank up AA. I'll try tridef but I think I'll probly just end up buying 3dtv play since everything i own (in my pc's) is nvidia. /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

@Shinobier: Just make sure to crank up AA as much as you can and you'll be fine. The "high quality" texture filtering used to make a big difference too, at least when i last checked.

Yeah.. Come to think of it, I didn't enable AA at all.

As for roller, I don't regret buying vizio set. So far this tv has the best 2D picture quality of all TV under $2500 range now. I compared to all lastest samsung model too and their edge-array LED technology came nowhere close to this vizio's full-array LED's color level and vividness. Plus it was $1500 for samsung active 3d vs $1000 vizio active 3d. I really wasn't planning to buy 3dtv but happen to bought it coz it was on huge sale on black friday. Netflix on this vizio tv is amazing, its quality is on par with bluray quality and makes netflix on pc or ps3 look like vhs quality. 3D is pretty decent too. No input lag like some of passive 3dtv I was looking at either(LG lw6500). Probably I will get away with 720p resolution if I max out AA. I will test and see how it goes.

It's just too bad 3dtv don't work when I do dual screen. I have hooked up my 3dtv to my desktop and they are right next to each other. I always have to go to turn off multiple display off in order to make 3dtv play works. Minor inconvienience but oh, well.. Better than nothing. Anyway, I am glad nvidia will take care of limitation problem for me. Thx. :)

p.s. I bought this vizio tv from walmart so I have 90 days to return if something better come out in next 3 months or if I see better deal during holiday season. It's risk free trial and so far, I am very impressed with this tv. It just blows away my old panasonic plasma that I bought to 2 years ago. 3d is just ok, but oh, men.. 2d picture quality and smoothness is out of this world. You really have to see this tv in action to believe it. I never knew netflix could look this good. and all console games works amazing too.

720p resolution if I max out AA.
Doing AA will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to fix the root cause of ugly. The two causes are:
1. It's scaled low res 720P
2. You are forced into framepacking mode which forces you out of desirable PC Graphics pixel processing mode and into broadcast pixel processing.

This "turn on AA, dude!" non-sense is rationalization for buying the wrong TV.
I bought this vizio tv from walmart so I have 90 days to return if something better come out in next 3 months
I was in the same boat as you when I bought a Sony in Nov.2010. I saw the same thing you see, ugly 3D gaming. I bought the Sony because Nvidia claimed I was stuck with low res scaled 720P with samsung or any 3DTV. Believing Nvidia was a big mistake.
Sure, maybe the Vizio does all this Netflix, BluRay 3D, 2D, etc. stuff, so what? The samsung does it just as well or better. If the Vizio gives an unsatisfactory 3D gaming experience, how much is it worth?
You can't appreciate the superiority of 3D gaming at native res 1920x1080 in PC mode until you see it. Impossible on the Vizio because it will force you into the wrong pixel mode even if you play a 3D game in 1080P at 24Hz.

Samsung UN46D8000 46-Inch

this is tv I wanted to buy originally. This is active 3dtv so I am not so sure .inf mod you talk about works on this model. If this model goes down to $1000 or lower in next 3 months, I might swap it but so far, this tv didn't get a rating as good as vizio set I own. Still, I see lots of people saying 1080p@60hz 3d isn't really 1080p@60hz 3d like on computer monitor but only checkboard says so. I also do know how 1080p@60hz 3d gaming look like because I own acer hn274h monitor and asus vg278h(though I returned this one due to oval halo bleeding defects) and how much they look better compared to 720p@60hz 3d. :)

Walmart is only half mile away from my home so you can bet on, I will return my vizio set and get something better if any unusually deal catches my eyes. Oh, and as for passive 3dtvs, I am not really interested since they are 540p per eye only and never was true 1080p 3d. I only want active 3d for now unless next gen passive 3dtv can make things a lot better. :)

The LG cinema displays are two interlaced 1080i images with two layers of perpendicular polarization interlaced. The 540p models were the earlier Zalman Trimon units targeted at AMD Radeon owners. I haven't personally seen the Visio units, but they are dirt cheap ($300 USD for a 32 inch 1080) and get solid reviews.

Nvidia wants to sell glasses so they don't support the passive tech nearly as well as the active tech, but if you were to come look at my passive LG inch and compare it to my active Asus 3D Vision 2, you'd think the LG looked better. I only even own the Asus b/c SLI doesn't work on a passive monitor/TV since they require the use of middleware for the higher resolutions. The LG Cinema Displays are fairly inexpensive with a 60 inch 3D running about 1.1K USD on sale, and while you can see the coating when the light catches it just right --it's superior for everything but SLI.

I had a LG passive, I returned it do to lag and random interpolation artifacts that tickled my brain, not to mention the clear ghosting that LG would not fix in the native interleave format. For those using a LG Passive TV, be sure to name the HDMI to PC to reduce lag. Sometimes it will randomly start getting laggy, pause the game, switch to another HDMI input and then back. Now your good to go until the next random lag episode.

I have almost zero ghosting with the DDD middleware, and don't ever notice input lag.

The LG Cinema displays were buggy with the first revision --just make sure you get one produced in the last few production runs. There is a production date stamped on the unit somewhere, though I'd have to look up where.

Just thinking outloud here... I mean, if you say that your vivio has the best 2D picture quality and no where close compared to the sammy... then honestly now, how can you not tell the difference again in quality between your tv with 3dTV play vs a samsung 3DTV hooked up to a 3D vision kit doing 60 hz checkerboard or the model spcific amazing 30 hz frequency mode???

Are you suggesting that you bought the vizio with the intent to 3D, but, that instead you placed a higher value when shopping on a tvs ability to do 2D performance? If so no offence but I remember as a kid watching TV on a 14" with rabbit ears and having to bang the tvset in order to stabilize the snowy image... and I loved watching 2D then and 3D wasn't even thought of. Your 2D standards are really THAT high that you would spend the extra $$$ on a tv to get a clearly inferior 3D feature because it is better(I suggest slim marginally btw) better than say a sammy? Dat's twilight zone stuff. (incidentally can anyone remember when the last time it was that they had to bang a electronic device to get it to work? I'm thinking the late 80's for me)

ANyway I'm trying to say that as far as plain jane 2D is concerned, I think a person has gotta be pretty crticial in order to prefer one tv doing 2D over another other nowadays.... especially when that person also expects 3D out of that tv too!

So now, with 3D on the other hand I do believe that one is much better than the other at the moment... unless I'm wrong let me know why. Is it not now widely accepted that 1080 fp @ 24fps on any tv is NOT better than sammys 1080 30 fps frequency mode...? and not even yet better than the checkerboard at 60 fps for FPS games?

THis is one of the stranger threads I've read on a 3D site in ahwile.

I mean, I'm not sure at what point in time that a tvs 2D image was more important than its 3D functionality... in the context of discussing on... a 3D forum website.

I'm kinda upset now actually... that people are still missing the boat given the wealth of internet data available. At least acidbong stated that his kids wont be able to tell the difference so that is why he chose his vizio... WIth that said though I'm glad as a kid I was videogaming on my AMiga... when 99.9% of the gamers who could not tell the difference were bowing down to the drastically inferior Nintendo option at the time.

P.S you can NOT eat chunky soup better with a fork than you can with a spoon. THat's crazy.
