Is it a DX9 or DX11 game this time? If it's DX11 and broken in 3D, the fix has to be redone. If this is the case, I would offer myself to help fix it, at least if the broken effects visible at the first zones of the game. I would... if the devs gave it to me for free, because I already own on Steam Darksiders, Darksiders 2 and all the DLC except for the soundtrack DLC. It sucks that I'm not eligible for that edition, but the publishers are receiving a lot of backlash so maybe this could benefit previous buyers.

Well it does appear they are going to be working on Darksiders 3. http://steamcommunity.com/app/388410/discussions/0/496880503064382496/#c496880503064408520 Anyway, seeing how you cannot buy the original version of Darksiders 2 any more (at least on Steam), it is an important question for those of us who have not played the original and would like to experience Darksiders 2 in 3d.

Because the Steam forums are so shitty, developers normally only reply in their own game forums, if at all. Steam really needs to step up and do more about it.

It makes sense to port it to other platforms and sell it there but...re-sell it again on PC? I think a patch would have been enough to get "the definitive" edition... but wait patches are free... while re-selling it gives extra bucks... In any case is not me to judge the fact they that they want revenue from their investment, but I am sick of developers trying to MILK money from a game... (Oh Aspyr comes to mind, with their "updates" to Kotor2 after 10 years...which basically broke the game even more than it was: The renderer is a HUGE HACK, and their 4K support is limited to ONE ASPECT RATIO... In Surround I don't even get any TEXT...Is missing. Funny enough... in the old, un-patched version, just forcing a Surround Resolution made the game work perfect except the UI which I also fixed for Surround... go figures...) Still, I don't agree with what they are doing there! I have huge respect for them trying to keep the franchise up, but don't freaking try to re-sell me my 3 year old car with a "new fresh coat of paint". IS STILL THE SAME CAR UNDERNEATH ;)

I love the franchise and am glad to see that it's with a good publisher now. Anyhow, DSII came out August of 2012 and was made by their subsidiary Vigil. THQ filed for bankruptcy in Sept 2014. That's a lot of time that they could have fixed it. Vigil was actually developing Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium when THQ filed for bankruptcy, which is likely abandoned now and probably the reason DSII didn't get patched. You can see in the old Steam forums that DSII wasn't without problems http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=e7bec78dc89ed56e5390b783513dad53&f=1509 Some of the other THQ games and where they went... Sega got Warhammer 40,000 Crytek got Homefront then sold it off to Deep Silver Koch Media/Deep Silver got Saints Row/Metro franchises UbiSoft got South Park: The Stick of Truth Take-Two Interactive got Evolve and WWE series. Here's a post about the changes http://steamcommunity.com/app/388410/discussions/0/496880503068556093/ Galshin [developer] 16 hours ago DS2 Engine Changes Hello, David Adams from Gunfire. I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd put this up top. If anyone is curious, here's what we did engine side. It is of course the same engine, but we rewrote huge swaths of the renderer. We wanted to bring it closer in line with more modern engines, while at the same time not dramatically changing the look of the game. Here's a list of changes we made (beware, technical jargon incoming): - Changed lighting model to be physically correct. Most modern engines use a physically correct lighting model, and the original Darksiders had a simple Phong lighting model. In practice, this doesn't have to change the way anything looks, but it allowed us to achieve more material variety - metal looking like metal, etc... It's not perfect when you are working with existing assets (because you would ultimately author the assets differently to get the full effect), but I think it adds something to the game. If you go back and look at the old game, all the materials just sort of looked like concrete. Now there is much more variation. - Added irradiance environment maps. In the original, the ambient lighting was a flat color. In this remaster the ambient lighting comes from a cube map render of the scene. This adds much more depth to the ambient, and creates subtle light bleeding (the lava bleeding up and casting reddish lighting on the ceiling for instance). It also means the reflections in the metal reflect the actual room, so if Death is near lava - there's a lava-ish reflection in the metail in his armor and weapons. - Improved the SSAO - it's still not great, but it's better (SSAO is my nemesis for some reason) - Implemented Filmic Tone-Mapping (the original game had no filmic tone mapping) - Improved the shadow filtering dramatically. It's still the same basic shadowing technique, so there is room for improvement - but this makes the shadows look a lot better even at the same shadow resolutions. - Implemented shadow casting point lights with transparency (there are a lot more shadow casting lights in the game in general). - I'm sure there's a few more misc things I'm forgetting. - All these changes did add more processing time to the renderer, but we did some optimizations which I think in the end should put it at performance parity with the original (barring any technical issues) The artists then took these changes, and rebalanced all the textures/materials - and relit most of the game. Again, trying to mantain the original look, just "modernizing" it a bit. I won't claim it's the most advanced engine in the world, but myself and one other guy were the only graphics programmers (even at Vigil that was essentially the case, we never had a massive team of graphics engineers like some other studios do - and we didn't use an off the shelf engine, we - maybe foolishly - rolled our own:p) That's should give you more insight on the changes that were made engine side. I think it looks hands down better than the original. And of course, we and Nordic are working hard to make sure we fix any issues.
Here's a post about the changes

DS2 Engine Changes

Hello, David Adams from Gunfire.

Here's a list of changes we made (beware, technical jargon incoming):

- Changed lighting model to be physically correct.

- Improved the SSAO - it's still not great, but it's better (SSAO is my nemesis for some reason)

- Implemented Filmic Tone-Mapping (the original game had no filmic tone mapping)

- Improved the shadow filtering dramatically.

- All these changes did add more processing time to the renderer, but we did some optimizations which I think in the end should put it at performance parity with the original (barring any technical issues)

The artists then took these changes, and rebalanced all the textures/materials - and relit most of the game. Again, trying to mantain the original look, just "modernizing" it a bit.

I won't claim it's the most advanced engine in the world, but myself and one other guy were the only graphics programmers (even at Vigil that was essentially the case, we never had a massive team of graphics engineers like some other studios do - and we didn't use an off the shelf engine, we - maybe foolishly - rolled our own:p)

That's should give you more insight on the changes that were made engine side. I think it looks hands down better than the original.
