Trouble with Nvidia 3D Vision Surround and 4th Accessory Monitor
1 / 3
So, I recently did a clean install update to driver version 331.65.
I'm running Windows 7 64-Bit and 2 GTX 670 4GB in SLI.
My monitors are hooked up properly (2x DVI Dual Link from my primary GPU, 1x DVI Dual Link from my secondary GPU, 1x HDMI accessory link to my 4th monitor on the primary GPU per the 3D surround with 4th accessory monitor instructions).
After updating my drivers, I've been noticing some wonky behavior from 3D vision with my 4th monitor on:
I first noticed that some 3D pictures on webpages would sometimes flicker between the correct image, and a state in which the 3D effect did not render properly and the image was difficult to make sense of. Sometimes this would correct itself, sometimes I had to refresh the webpage.
I then noticed that, when launching Mass Effect 1, it would appear that 3D was working (3D cross-hair would render, for example) but my monitors weren't switched to 3D mode. Even worse, my GPU load would drop to 0% and the game and menu were absolutely unusable.
I then noticed that running the 3D stereoscopic test application from the "Set up stereoscopic 3D" menu in NVIDIA Control Panel would sometimes render the 3D image properly, and sometimes give the same effect as when looking at 3D pictures on a website (the 3D effect was off, and the words and images difficult to make out).
I decided to do some testing:
With my 4th monitor ENABLED, I cannot set up stereoscopic 3D via the wizard. After asking whether there are other IR devices and going to the "turn on your 3D vision glasses" screen (where my monitors are normally switched to 3D mode), the 3D mode simply doesn't activate at all. My monitors remain in 2D mode and the glasses do nothing.
With my 4th monitor DISABLED, the 3D stereoscopic wizard runs fine.
With my 4th monitor ENABLED, the test stereoscopic 3D application varies between functioning and not functioning properly. Sometimes it will load and work fine. Sometimes it will flicker between not working and working. Sometimes it will simply not be working properly and give an illegible 3D effect.
With my 4th monitor DISABLED: the test stereoscopic 3D application works great. Never seems to have any problems.
Prior to upgrading my drivers, I never had issues running my 4th monitor and 3D surround (well, not entirely true, for some reason the resolution of the 4th monitor would shift to the left, so if something was full screened like a youtube video, it would now be shifted to the right and cut off on the right side, with my desktop background visible on the left side). Now it seems the two are incompatible with each other. 3D surround cannot be used reliably with a 4th accessory monitor enabled.

These pages are dead here...I haven't seen an official nVidia Moderator reply here for almost 2 years now...
But I understand exactly what you say... I am having the same problem with broken 3D Vision drivers and I am using only 3 Displays (no 4th accessory one) and the latest WHQL break stuff...
I tried for 3 days to make it work..and found the same thing..sometimes it works other times it doesn't
If it works, the driver kernel will inevitably crash some time later...At least this was the case for me...
The only thing that I can say is roll back to the previous WHQL or the beta drivers (which for me work almost perfect)

Which Beta driver? 331.40?
Not sure it's related, but the latest WHQL 3D Driver also breaks Chiri's Unlocker. The nvapi.dll is no longer being loaded at all. I narrowed it down to 3D Vision being enabled or not. If it's disabled, override works fine (but is unnecessary).

Well boo. Downgrading requires giving up the new SLI and 3D profiles that are being made. While upgrading entails giving up my accessory monitor.
I guess I'll have to live without my accessory monitor for now.

Yes I am using the 331.40 Drivers. the 331.65 are literally not working for me no matter what I tried..it just breaks stuff. I managed to narrow it down to be a combination of Surround + 3D Vision as 3D Vision works on one monitor and sometimes work on 3D Surround.
I think is a surround problem actually since:
- I don't have all my resolutions : 4800x1024 is missing....
- Changing the Surround resolution from NVPanel will 75% result in a BLACK screen, keyboard not responding and it just hangs there... 5 minutes later the kernel crashes.
- I managed to narrow it even more and apparently it has something to do with bezel correction... and the order of the monitors (for me is 3 1 2, leaving it default of 1 2 3 increases the chances of working)
I am not sure if new profiles were put inside in the 331.65 from 331.40 but if this is the case you could use the nvidia inpector to save them and load them in the 331.40 I guess....
As for Chiri's Unlock Convergence tool, yes, I posted a while back on Helixmod blog this:
http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/dx9-11-custom-convergencedepth-bindings.html
(at the bottom)
I saw this problem for some time;))
I am also using Windows 7 not 8 or 8.1.. I wonder if there is a difference....

Yeah, all my tests are on Win7 too. I don't think Win8 changed much with regard to video and 3D drivers.
Is the bezel management a 3rd party tool, or something that is part of Surround?
If it's 3rd party, they could be suffering from the same bug/change that the Unlocker suffers from, which I debugged down to a change in DLL loading in a 3D driver component.

No, the bezel correction part is basically part of the nvidia driver...
Anyway I gave up..no idea why is not working for me...funny on hardware on which 3D Surround worked flawless for two years now:)))
I think they f@cked up the drivers pretty bad this time around...I have no idea why...but I expect they started migrating stuff and possibly they get ready for the '14 March release?...No idea...

for me I can't get 3D to work properly with Surround and an accessory monitor. So I am forced to disable the accessory monitor on the current driver. Also sometimes when i try to set the Bezel resolution the entire Nvidia control panel crashes. Normally it does that when the Numbers are out of order on the Bezel correction screen for me. This problem existed in their last drivers.

Well, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in the accessory monitor problem. Although sorry that it is apparently an issue.
I'm not having any bezel correct problems (my monitors are out of order, by the way - they are in 3, 1, 2 configuration apparently).
If anyone else is having problems with an accessory monitor and 3D surround on the latest drivers, please chime in.
Better yet, if you're *not* having problems, please chime in as well!
if anymore confirmation was needed, I'm adding my voice too.
3d vision + accessory, windows 7 x64 331.65 dual 690.
if I disable the accessory window, it works. but if I leave it enabled the eyes get constantly swapped and I'm unable to complete the 3d vision setup program.

I am also having similar issues. I created a post on http://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia asking for assistance. Shameless bump.
Is there anyone out there running the latest drivers with 3D surround and a 4th accessory monitor who is not experiencing problems?
If there is, would love to get a sense of how you have configured your system.
Update:
I've upgraded to 331.82.
Following the install, I set up my surround system and activated stereoscopic 3D with my 4th monitor disabled in nvidia control panel.
Following the wizard I ran the test 3D application - it ran beautifully, no problems.
I then activated my 4th accessory display.
I ran the 3D test application 5 times:
The first 3 times, the application loaded and did not look right. Within 5-30 seconds the program corrected itself (sometimes correcting itself, becoming messed up, and then correcting itself again in fairly rapid succession, 3-5 seconds for the entire process).
The 4th time, the application launched perfectly on the first try.
The 5th time, it repeated the previous pattern of launching incorrectly, but quickly correcting itself.
I then launched Mass Effect 1. Note, I use Flawless Widescreen v1.0.11 with a fully updated Mass Effect plugin. I also use the latest version of Helix's fix for Mass Effect.
I did not encounter any of my previous problems with Mass Effect. The monitors switched to 3D and the game was responsive as expected. However, the 3D effect was very flawed, possibly with the eyes reversed? It was very difficult to make out, and the problem did not seem to correct itself when I waited.
I alt tabbed out and then back in. Initially the game appeared correct when I alt-tabbed back in, but the screen "flashed" similar to when the 3D test app was making it's correction, and then the image became difficult to make out again. It did not correct itself when I waited.
I tried holding the power button on my glasses and releasing, but that had no effect. I tried enabling and disabling 3D in game, but that also did not help.
Finally, I quit and disabled my accessory monitor. I loaded back into Mass Effect and everything worked and looked beautiful.
It appears 331.82 was a step in the right direction, but it wasn't there yet. 3D surround with an accessory monitor still appears to be impossible.

Note, I made one last test, supposing that having the 4th monitor disabled during 3D setup could be an issue:
I disabled 3D with my 4th monitor enabled. Then turned 3D back on and chose to run the setup wizard.
The wizard loaded and the screen flickered on my center monitor and 4th monitor repeatedly. After a not-so-short wait, my side monitors indicated that they were not receiving a signal and the 3D wizard appeared on the screen. I hit next to the point where the wizard indicates to turn your 3D glasses on.
At this point, the screen went black with the Windows loading cursor. After another not-so-short wait, the 3D wizard reappeared and instructed me to turn my 3D glasses on, but the center nor side monitors (which were still in standby) did not switch to 3D mode. My glasses never turned on, and I exited the wizard.

Sorry, wasn't paying attention. I don't have a problem with surround and running the 4th monitor. Fact is I really don't use it much though, but tested tonight and I can run surround in 3d, test ran with Trine 2 surround, and 4th monitor can display evga precision stats fine.
I had some goofy (I forget what exactly) issues a long time ago, 6 months?, and said screw it and bought a 610 and stuck it in my last slot. That may be it?

(at the bottom)
I saw this problem for some time;))
I am also using Windows 7 not 8 or 8.1.. I wonder if there is a difference....

Is the bezel management a 3rd party tool, or something that is part of Surround?
If it's 3rd party, they could be suffering from the same bug/change that the Unlocker suffers from, which I debugged down to a change in DLL loading in a 3D driver component.

3d vision + accessory, windows 7 x64 331.65 dual 690.
if I disable the accessory window, it works. but if I leave it enabled the eyes get constantly swapped and I'm unable to complete the 3d vision setup program.
Is there anyone out there running the latest drivers with 3D surround and a 4th accessory monitor who is not experiencing problems?
If there is, would love to get a sense of how you have configured your system.
I had some goofy (I forget what exactly) issues a long time ago, 6 months?, and said screw it and bought a 610 and stuck it in my last slot. That may be it?
Bezel correction works fine @ 5920 X 1080
Let me know if you want any specifics or test something.
