I was very close to purchasing the Acer H5360 to use with the 3D vision kit untill i read a post on the Optoma HD66. I have a bright room and it needs to be pitch black for my current beamer to work. I keep reading about the HD66 working well in light, and this would be the determining factor for me. However, i understand that the HD66 is not officialy supported. Is the extra trouble worth it for the HD66? I have found them both at the same price so now it is just a matter of which has better 3d capabilities and the lighting situation. Maybe i can get some pros and cons from someone who has had experience with both? Thanks

I agree. I ended up returning my HD66 because of lack of driver support from Nvidia. It does not matter if you are not interested in 3D vision otherwise you will have to use old CD V1.15 drivers (current version is v1.20). Hd66 is not detected as 3D ready display in the latest drivers.

I dont have an Acer but I do own an Optoma HD66.
Yes you have to use older drivers, 1.15 full cd to take advantage of the 3d Mode by Nvidia but as a Crt Monitor rather than a DLP.
Regardless I can vouch that the Hd66 can show a clear picture in daylight.
Not the best pic from a cell phone and my flash is to blame for the image looking somewhat faded on the wall but My curtains are wide open and of course this is in the daytime.
Anyway as far as the 3d aspect, I still get good quality and my glasses work properly even though this projector isn't officially supported and I read that some users have to wear glasses upside down for gaming in 3d with this projector. Even though I only own 1 3d compatible game, Unreal tourney 3, I have yet needed to wear my glasses upside down period.
But its your call, I mainly got this projector because the Popular Acer supported one hasnt as of yet made it to the U.S. and this was then next best thing to get and I am very happy with my purchase.

Well im probably going to end up purchasing the Optoma HD66, because with all this fuss and petitions about getting it supported, im sure it will be soon. However, untill it is officialy supported, what are the disadvantages of using the old driver? Is there certain content that is not compatible with the older driver?

Be prepared for anything though. Andrew said they are TRYING to work with Optoma as they need Optoma's support to continue. I'm just saying don't be shocked if it doesn't get supported judging by the heavy dose of uncertainty in his statement and plea for users to personally contact Optoma.

I am an Optoma Pro350W user and would suggest you get the Acer if you plan on sticking with Nvidia graphics cards. After seeing Andrews latest post, i have some serious doubts on whether the early Optoma 3D Projectors will ever be truly supported and even less confidence that they will be given users advanced options to tweak supportability. If i were still hunting i would likely wait until march and let Nvidia, DDD, and IZ3D play their hands regarding driver support for displays and make an educated decision vs a hopeful decision.

Can I ask what does it really matter if you never get a detectable screen.
This whole time my Plasma hasn't be detectable so generic DLP is what I have been using for it, same as the Samsung DLP users.
I understand the glasses upside down issue with a HD66 but what other advantages are there over just selecting Generic DLP or CRT in the option?
You guys will be happy in a week and half because you can have those options back.

It doesn't even give the option to select DLP in the post 1.15 drivers, just anaglyph. Generic DLP is a checkerboard which would be better than nothing but these projectors are capable of full page flip.

Hmm tax return soon should I get this projector or hang off to see what else comes out, I get so impatient when it comes to 3D.
Most of you guys here are so much more calm than I when it comes to waiting on drivers/profiles etc.
Hi -
I am just curious why the interest in going with the Optoma HD66 instead of the Acer H5360?
Given that the Acer is officially supported for 3D vision.
At first, I thought the two projectors were identical - for example, the lumens is the same (2500), so I wonder why the discussion in this thread about whether one is brighter?
The main difference I see is the contrast ratio - Optoma is 4000:1, and the Acer is 3,200:1, and I am wondering if anyone has compared this side-by-side and considers it significant.
Otherwise, everything else seems equivalent, except nvidia supports the one and not the other?
I was planning on buying the Optoma, until I saw the Acer listed on the nvidia site and checked out its specs.
Is there a reason to take the gamble with the optoma?
