By the way, did you have any problems with Portal.. My PC keeps locking up after a few minutes of game play :(.[/quote]
No problem with portal. see if the game locks up without 3D. Though even with the gtx 480, when I was looking through portal of the portal in 3D (infinite portal view, like 2 mirrors) lag killed me, perhaps this is what is happening?
had 4 to 8 frames a second when looking through portal of portals.

Well I'm running SLi, dual monitor and 3D here, so I guess there's a lot of shizzle to go wrong, I'll try running with 1 less thing at a time and see if I can't locate the problem. Thanks for your input :).

- Metro 2033: This is how 3D Vision should be :) Great showcase.
- World of Warcraft: I don't care much for the gameplay anymore, but walking and flying around seeing all the old places was great.
- Fallout 3: Very good, minor issues with indoor lighting (glow). Would kill for Fallout New Vegas to be 3D Vision Ready (*hint* *prod*)
- Burnout Paradise: Also quite good.
- Psychonauts: Works great.
- Tomb Raider: Anniversary: Works great, even the depth of field. Some minor ghosting.
- Left 4 Dead: Very good. I don't mind the film grain being on.
- Portal: Wish I played it in 3D the first time around. Very nice to play it again.
- Half Life 2: Nice to play it again in 3D :) Not too many issues.
- TimeShift: Quite good.
- Half Life 2: Ep 2: How did this get 'excellent'? I get 'Error' objects floating in mid-air.
- Alien vs Predator 2: Unplayable, a lot of lighting issues
- Dead Space: Would be awesome if the shadows wouldn't be 2D at screen depth :)
- Trine: Unplayable.
My observation is that Unreal Engine 3 and Source engine games are doing very well.
l wouldn't call Trine unplayable..., just not great...
The mechanical box of the wizzard looks pretty good,..you can actually look inside the box with 3d on,..you could not without it ! (see screenshots)
It has it charm in 3d,but with a couple of shadow and lightning defects,..those can probably turned off with some kind of autoexec.bat or some ini/txt file...

ROCKET KNIGHT!! I know some of yall really old school gamers remember Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster on Sega Genesis. A remake came out and I've downloaded the game on Steam.
3D effect is BRILLIANT!! its a side scroller but everything is 3d. I'm leaning on buying it. Not only does it look absolutely fantastic in 3d but its also a really FUN game!

[quote name='Obone' post='1048919' date='May 2 2010, 04:40 AM']Well I'm off from work this week so I'm gonna try and get through my Steam games and post thoughts on each 1 when I've tried them in 3D, I'll probably not spend too much time on each game as the list is quite long.
Dirt 2
Took about half an hour to set up, most of that time being dedicated to getting my [url="http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Force-Feedback-Racing-Wheel/dp/B00006HYLN"]Momo steering wheel[/url] working. Having played Grid, and being armed with the knowledge that both games run on the same engine, I should have known there would be gremlins here. The rest of the time was dedicated to getting 3D on and a bit of minor tweaking for an improved look. I don't have DX11 capable hardware, so at least I didn't have that to worry about too.
As I'd just picked up a tip from another thread on these forums that suggested 100% depth worked well, I thought I would try it out on this game. I was glad I did, as with low - med depth there was considerable ghosting. Once I switched to 100% depth and altered the convergence [enable hot keys in NVCP - then use ctrl+F5/F6] most of the ghosting had gone and the effect of 'pop out' was more pronounced [especially in the game menus]. As I said before this game runs on the same engine as Grid, therefore I wasn't too surprised to find it suffers the same problems as Grid although maybe to a lesser degree. Shadows appear at the wrong depth and can't be turned off, I tried changing them to 'ultra-low' but that just makes matters worse as it doesn't reduce their impact on the game, it just reduces the image quality. Dust that's kicked up by other cars also looks as if it's at the wrong depth, I managed to disable this by turning off particles in the game options, however this tweak does give the overall game a poorer image quality. These 2 issues aren't show stoppers in my opinion [and I'm fussy about my games], but they do take away from the immersion factor a bit.
Having just come off the back of NFS Shift, I've decided to start playing car games from the c0ckpit view, for me this enhances the realism and also shows off 3D nicely. However 1 of the features of Dirt 2 is when you go through puddles, water is splashed on your windscreen and you have zero visibility for a few seconds until your windscreen wipers come on and do their job. Not a bad idea and I guess it's subjective whether you think this is a nice touch or not, I personally find it quite annoying. Frame rates are acceptable with my hardware, I'd say I was getting on average 40-50 FPS, with the occasional slow down when there are lots of cars in view [inherent with codemaster racing games].
For the main part though, it's an enjoyable game in 3D, not up to the standards of NFS Shift, but better [in terms of 3D image quality] than Grid. It's a great feeling when you can control that slide all the way round a long tight bend and come powering out the other end in front.
As of the time of writing this post you can still pick Dirt 2 up from Steam for £7.49, which is a complete bargain no matter which way you slice it :).

Hey OB, I thought I would give you a little update on Dirt 2. I was having these same shadow issues with one GTX480. As soon as I got my second and went to SLI, daytime driving is now flawless! I have shadows set to low and night lighting set to low and the rest of the settings are maxed. I run 3d depth @ 100%. The dust looks great, I have particles set to max. My favorite course right now is the first Utah course. The first part of the course allows you to hold the car wide open with some minor turning. Going 120 mph on a dirt road in 3d is pretty amazing! The night courses still have issues like the car reflections appear away from the cars which causes some major ghosting, but I just try and get ahead of the pack so it doesn't matter :). Can't wait to try Shift this weekend!

I love Shift in S3D! Its the first thing I show to people. C@ckpit view is a must - IMO shift is the only game where this view enhances the experience instead if killing it.

Yo bigweamer,
Thanks for your input, you definitely have more experience of Dirt 2 than me so I will take your words seriously, alas 1 of your 480's matches my current GPU subsystem so I can't try out your suggestions [although this may be about to change]. I'm looking forward to playing some more Dirt 2, it's a great game, especially in 3D :).

Replaying The Witcher, but with the Enhanced Edition and in 3D this time. I am using a first person mod along with a high res texture pack. The game is perfect in 3D and the gameplay is superb.

I've been busy lately doing extensive *ahem* testing on BFBC2, as you can probably tell by the appalling k/d ratio in my sig. Fear not I'll be back with some more tips soon, bought a few new games in the recent Steam sales to test :).
BTW BC2 runs really well in 3D, especially with the latest drivers  .

No idea how to advise you :(

You can set the depth to 100% and the convergence pretty high too !
Some screenshots of this game below...
Going to buy Overlord 2 next week....
These games are not my favorite gamestyles, but they are very pretty to look at !

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
