1 month VR headset owners, you still use 3d vision or VR or both?
But if it was recorded straight from VR set in 3D it will be in the very same quality. I watched Skyrim like this and didn`t like it. Quality was like from PS3.
You mean through software recording or an actual camera through the vr headset lense? IF you record through software it will definitely look better on a monitor than in the headset. Sure you get an idea what the graphics look like but it will be much, much worse in the headset. I dont think you fully realise how bad the resolution and overall image quality is on the headsets.
And from what ive seen an actual camera footage through a lense still looks better when im looking at it from my monitor. You really need to put on the headset to truly know how it looks. I havent seen any simulation or footage that shows accurately how it looks inside oculus or vive.

I don`t know what method they used to record this content from VR in there but it was in SBS and it looked really bad. Description was suggesting that someone did that to show everybody the image quality.
I live without knowing and wait until next generation. Just curious at the moment.

Maybe you are too young to remember what games used to be like.
Sure the low resolution is the worst aspect of VR right now but it is still amazing IMO.
If you'd had Atari 2600's and Amstrad cpc464's, BBC modelB, C64, Sega master systems and megadrives etc you would probably appreciate it a lot more.
The 3D in VR is impressive too, no loss of brightness, ghosting or crosstalk, messed up colours like you get with 3D Vision games also it works straight out of the box.
OLED high refresh panels are impressive too.
3D vision is a pain in the ass with fixes and setting up shortcut buttons and adjusting depth and convergenace, no wonder it never took off.
3D is like a small evolutionary step over 2D IMO. no new genres came about from 3D vision, they are just extensions of 2D.
With VR we are having entirely new genres and gameplay mechanics, a true game changer.
Once the higher resolution headsets come out 3D Vision is gong to be made redundant overnight.
Might even be better than a 4K projector!
Saying that playing 720p 3D on a 127" 1080p projector isn't exactly 'hi-res gaming' its actually a lot lower than the vives resolution (I know is closer but still) get close up to your projector screen and see how blocky it looks.
Talking of whiuch anyone seen the new 4k projector from Epson (uses Eshift but has HDMI 2.0a and HDCP2.2.
Would be cool if someone got that working in 3D vision with an EDID hack, it's lasr too and under $3000

I have had my Vive for 2 months now (my Oculus is STILL non-functional on my PC, with terrible support). I probably spend 90-95% of my time with 3D Vision, playing great helixmod games like Dark Souls 3, Doom 3, and Dreamfall Chapters. The HMDs cannot match a 4K OLED's 3D resolution, and most VR games are short demos. By the way, I started to experience motion sensitivity in one Vive game (Time Machine VR), something I have never encountered before in more than 6 years of 3D gaming (using static 3D displays). Interesting.
I think Conan481 and bo3b have provided some of the best assessments of current VR tech status, in the VR sub forum. In my opinion, VR game movement is still a work-in-progress, especially with room scale. Call of the Starseed is an interesting SHORT game, but simple movement is a time-consuming challenge (mini-game?), for example.

OP...
I can't do squat with my Oculus until I can upgrade my old 780 but even the sub-squat stuff like the Oculus demo shows its power. When you look at that T-Rex in the VR demo, you have to LOOK UP to see it because it's so big! When you look at it on a screen, it isn't any bigger than the screen. Heck, even that little alien guy actually looks 5ft tall. On my monitor, he would be a few inches tall.
But you would rather have the tiny version because that gives you the resolution to see the plaque on his teeth!?
"Once the higher resolution headsets come out 3D Vision is gong to be made redundant overnight."
I wouldn't say that. Well... kinda. 3D monitors and glasses will be redundant. The technology will still be handy, though, simply because not all games make sense in VR. (There's a reason we still have board games in real life.) But you should be able to play them using a big, virtual monitor instead of having to buy special glasses and monitors for it.

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.
See I was happy with VR idea because I thought that I`ll get both worlds in one unit. I thought that all 3D Vision game will be easy playable on VR headset - just using mouse to look around like when you play on Sony HMZ.

No, i have projector which also gives good scale. I doesnt have the same level of immersion but for me, on the whole it gives much better experience compared to vr. I dont know how its possible but i think my projector also has much better color and black level. Now those nice oled panels sport grey blacks instead of the true blacks oled is capable so they dont have "black smear". The Muira correction on the vive is in particular very jarring, it makes black looks like it has heavy film grain on it.

Well, I am also at the moment not very motivated to play anything with my Vive. But it is still fun to watch full VR movies. If you are really unhappy with the resolution I would recommend you to bring back your Vive. I think there is not a lot of chance that we will get more games like the Lab in the next 12 month. I actually think we will have to wait for the next VR generation.

It looks like all games will pop out at the end of this year when Sony release theirs headset. I think they have timed exclusive for several games or Devs waiting for them to make a big deal out of it. Robinson, Batman and Resident Evil are in there. Also there is a news about Left4Dead3 which will be VR for sure.

I just took it back to the store. Sold oculus earlier. Thread kind of turned into something i didnt want to, but i guess it was my fault for calling those headsets bad. I do believe in the tech, there are just too many things to forgive right now.
I'd still appreciate comments from 3d vision user who have had their vr headset for over a month.

I also would like to read some more opinions from other VR users from our community. I`m surprised that GibsonRed is happy with it. I totally understand what he says but I thought that he`ll be more pessimistic after having so much experience with other technologies.
I really like natural size of the objects I`m looking at - that`s why I was always reaching for Projector but since I went for ROG Swift I gave up on this idea.
Maybe that was bad idea but I`m happy at this point with quality since all games I play are third person perspective and that toy factor is fine.
Interesting read, I'm not regretting holding off on my VR purchase.
Agreed ! Unfortunately you might even say: As expected..
I have vive and rift, they are only better for simulators but not for typical games.....yet, however the wow factor is there for sure. It is good for the experience if you have the extra cash.
