Windows 10 Megathread - Please keep Win10 discussions here

^^ Wow, sounds like you had a tougher time than I did. A new irritation I've discovered... Because my PC is also my theater, I have two monitors plus a TV hooked up to my single GTX690. Multi-GPU mode (SLI) will only run two monitors, so I am frequently switching between Multi-GPU for gaming and Multi-monitor for watching TV. This was relatively easy on Windows 7, whereas version 10 makes it a total hassle. Apparently there are several apps running in the background that prevent NV Control Panel from making the switch until you shut them down. The only way to shut these programs down completely is to open Task Manager and find the processes and eliminate them. I'm thinking of trying to make some sort of short-cut to the Task Manager to speed up the process a little bit, if such a thing is possible. But bottom line is, I kind of don't like how 'active' Windows 10 is.... It seems to have a LOT MORE things going on in the background and seems slower overall.

I use "What is My Computer Doing" to monitor which programs are accessing my drives on W7. It supports W8 and might work with W10. You can click on the active process and it will tell you details such as install date, product name/description and let you go to it's properties or folder http://www.easy2sync.com/en/produkte/Whats-my-computer-doing.php# A good site to sometimes help find programs is Alternative To http://alternativeto.net/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2hcfcdyNXA

^^^ Thanks D-man I'll check it out. Something else I discovered: Once I get everything closed down so that NVidia can switch from Multi-monitor to Multi-GPU, the screens come back up blank with only the mouse cursor showing. I can't tell if the PC itself is frozen up, or just the screens are blank. I have to do a hard reset to get anything to show up on the monitors again. Twice when I reset the PC it actually made the switch and I was good to go, whereas one time it did not, and the PC froze up AFTER resetting. When switching back from Multi-GPU to Multi-monitor it never has a problem. It's only when I switch in the direction of enabling SLI. Any ideas?

We are facing issues with our application when we use the Nvidia Graphics card on Windows 10. Details of the issue: 1) Application once it goes to full screen mode (by pressing F11) doesnt come back to Windowed mode. Application built using DirectX 2) Issue not reproducible if we use the Intel drivers 3) Issue happens only with latest Windows 10 (v 1511 (10586.318) Any suggestions on how the same can be resolved?

Since this thread popped up again, I thought I'd add an interesting Win10 only feature that is interesting enough that I'm setting up a dual boot for my primary machine. Finally a feature in Win10 that makes it worth updating. This is the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Named in the fine Microsoft tradition of absolutely generic and boring words strung together into a forgettable acronym. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/wsl/2016/04/22/windows-subsystem-for-linux-overview/ What this does is bring the Bash shell to Windows, for real. It's actually running ubuntu under the covers, so it's a real version of linux command line, with real tools. That means no more Cygwin weirdness, or Git Bash missing tools and incompatibilities. Or need for a hungry VM. Only available in Insider Builds right now. Your mileage will...

So, to summarise this thread, if you enjoy stereoscopic gaming stay away from win 10. That's the basic message, right?

Be careful with some of those spying fixes in 10. I worked out my CMD issue (stealing foxus from my games) was caused by one of those tweaks. Basically it was Microsoft trying to phone home and finding it could not. Very very frustrating. I fixed it by re enabling the spying. So, in my case not really making me want to make the jump from 7 regardless...

Let them SPY! Maybe this way Microsoft learns about 3D Vision and what it takes to fix a game and develop and an automated system to do it for us ^_^ (Pfff.. Day-dreaming again /slap-face... OK, I am awake now...)
So, in my case not really making me want to make the jump from 7 regardless...
Yea, I'm holding off. Until there is a DX12 game I really want to play, I think there is no benefit in upgrading and, even then, I'll probably track down a LTSB edition of Win 10 to avoid even installing the advertising and app crap. I want my desktop OS to be a desktop OS, not something that belongs on a tablet or phone and constantly wastes my time by trying to sell me junk.

So is Win 10 out for 3D surround users?? I need to know as the free offer is too expire in end of July.. I use 2 Projectors in Surround with 3D vision.. I don't use DX12 or any games that use it. But in the near Future I would like to get a new PC and it looks like Win 10 will be the only game in town as I hear from Skylake on it only supports Win 10??

I don't have any issues with 3D Surround in Windows 10. There were issues last year true, but now all works nicely for me:)

If you are worried about the free deal running out why not download it, verify your copy then format the HDD it and go back to win 7? BTW - Win7 runs fine on Skylake, it's just the installation that is different but most mobo manufacturers have sorted that now because something like 70% of home users are still on 7, so they'd lose out on hardware sales if they didn't support it.
