Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
  1 / 4
The game was released for PS4 2 weeks ago and gets its PC release today! I just wanted to ask if there is any interest in fixing this? I already own the PS4 release (the VR-part alone is nearly worth the 40 EUR that I paid for it) but if someone is planning on fixing this one for 3D Vision I would definitely prefer to play the campaign that way!

I was able to overlook not having VR support (basically because of having 3DVision to fall back on), but no HOTAS support is a dealbreaker. Really disappointed to find this out just now, was just about to make an impulse buy. Will definitely be interested in getting it if/when they do add even basic flightstick support, hopefully game will be on sale/cheaper by then.

I just bought this game on Steam. I must say, that I have no HOTAS, cause normally I'm a racing-sim-guy, but I also love flight-sims (especially in VR). So an arcade flight game in 2D is normally not what I'm looking for. I even haven't played any game of the Ace Combat series yet. But I thought: okay I'll play it for maximum 1 hour and then I'll refund it... Well, ... I had so much fun and the hour was exceeded, I didn't even recognise it. I also got it working with triple screen resolution (thanks to the WSGF-forum). No VR, no 3D ... normally a no-go for me. But this might be an exception. Of course I would not say no if someone of the 3D-fix-gurus would bring up a 3D-vision fix some day ;-)

Hah, I'm an idiot! After sending the above post I realised that I didn't even try if the game works in 3D-vision. So I just tried it and I can say that real 3D vision works very good and performance is also good (I left everything on Ultra-settings and on triple-screen resolution from my 2D-play before; and I got fluid 40-60 FPS with 5980x1080 resolution!). Of course the game has some flaws that would have to be fixed: - some effects in the menu are wrong (but not in gameplay. Even when firing a missile it works perfectly correct in 3D, even the smoke-trail is correct!) - the sky seems to be missing!? At least I had a black sky in the first mission in 3D, whereas in 2D the sky was bright blue ;-) - The HUD is at screen depth. Unfortunately I can't fix such things but I wanted to tell the 3D-gurus who are maybe interested that this could maybe be fixed (easily?). At least I know that there are other games out there which doesn't work at all in 3D (the 3D doesn't even kick in) but this title is gladly not such a game... ;-)

Great news, Mike! Thanks for your feedback! Have you already tried the Unreal Engine 4 Universal Fix? http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2018/04/ue4-universal-fix.html The fix should/could erase some of the remaining issues you mentioned.....

Now the menus (showroom where you can see your plane for example) and everything looks gorgeous (the broken effects are gone there) BUT unfortunately the problems in the game itself (cockpit-view) stayed the same (black sky for example, maybe a wrong shader...).
no HOTAS support is a dealbreaker.
Looking at the Steam discussions, it's really a shame that they are not offering support for all versions of the controllers. Especially, when they previously had it in prior games.

Yeah I can confirm that the black sky is still there. Has anyone made a fix for that?

In discord there is a discussion about the black sky...thanks to DSS for the suggestion that fix that black skybox. Edit d3dx.ini, uncomment this lines and change the value to 14. Like this:
DX10VSCBNumber = 14 DX10DSCBNumber = 14
Great! Since the black sky seems the only gripe for AC7 now I need to buy another version (PC) for playing the campaign. I already own the PS4 version for the great VR-part but definitely want to play the campaign in glorious 3D Vision! Also maybe one day I can even play the VR-part on one of my PC VR-headsets. Officially the VR-part is only a timed-exclusive for PS4!

I tried the universal patch, change the line in the ini, change the setting in NVIDIA control panel and tried to reinstall DirectX and Framework. I'm actually out of idea for fix this problem, it's look the texture of the sky are not including in my game haha
