It actually looks really nice and I played it for half an hour without being totally sad. Some weird issues nevertheless remain, so I will wait for my playthrough.

What is really interesting: if You take a look at the registry HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2495672846-2895432465-803403113-1000\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Rise of the Tomb Raider\Graphics\ You will see several keys regarding S3D. Stereoscopic3D was even set to 1 after installation. But of course without any effect. Same with LCTOO (where Stereoscopic3D = 1 breaks the graphical options menu in the launcher). So maybe support for S3D originally was intended or is per se implemented into the engine but abandoned for the release version. Perhaps the deal with Microsoft and the focus on the X-Box release was the reason. Or even the cooperation with Nvidia instead with AMD. Maybe S3D support could even be enabled with a game update. In TR 2013 You could force the game to run in Dx9 by the registry (RenderAPI = 9). For ROTTR this entry is missing. So no chance to switch to Helixmod if 3Dmigoto doesn't work with this game.

Doesn't look that bad which is good;)
But all the specularity & shadows are broken;) plus other tiny and minor things.
I think they are still using the same engine as TR2013 but got updated the shaders. And ofc they forgot to care about stere3D in those updates;)
Mike, If I can be of any help please let me know;) and I will do my best to help out!

Will do :-) Can you try running the game with 3DMigoto 1.2.27, set hook="...dxgi...." and then see if you can shader hunt? I won't be home until really quite late tonight to check it out.

Hi Mike!
It will take a bit of time on my part as I am having some cooling problems with my PC (I think one of my pumps decided to die:( )
Should be back "in the game" tomorrow evening;)

So it's good and bad news. The good news is that shadows and lights are fixable. The bad news is:
1. That there are 3DMigoto decompiler errors so some fixes are done in HLSL and some in ASM
2. There is tile lighting like in Batman Arkham Knight, and I have not had time to work out where the solution might be (the shaders are quite big). The effect of this is that 'blocky edges' appear when the fix is applied.
3. There are some decals for which no shaders are found in hunting, so I need to use Frame Analysis, but have not had time to do so.

Meanwhile I call the game "rise of the rollercoaster tycoon" ;)
As I don't have experiences with 3DMigoto fixes I startet to prepare myself to help at least as test player. I have made a script that automatically makes a backup of the autosaves and save games whenever they are changed during the game play. If Steam's save cloud is disabled they are stored in ...\Steam\userdata\[user-id]\391220\remote\. So it should be possible to reproduce later every moment of the game.
To prevent me from spoiling the experience with broken S3D I play in 2D. It's the first time I play a game in 2D after a long time. But the graphics of this game are so breathtaking that I sometimes forget that is not S3D as it just feels so "three-dimensional" even in 2D. And as an old TR fanboy I love the gameplay with the significantly extended exploration part. The story portraits Lara as the tough guy we know from the old games and there isn't any more the strange ludonarrative dissonance we had in the last game. This is really a Tomb Raider game. Lara is back :)
What I want to say is: I think the game is really worth every effort to fix it. It should offer an overwhelming experience in S3D even when not all the details can be fixed and some effects have to be disabled. So I thank You so much for taking a look at the game and keep my fingers crossed for You, mike and the other shader hackers!
From the performance point of view how is it in 3D? Does it get a really big hit?
Disabling shadows, bloom, blur effects and other nonsense cosmetic issues, it was running smooth on my rig in 3D. I only had some minor loading stutter. But it demands a strong GPU though.
