You place a shortcut to the exe on your desktop, and then the icon itself changes appearance depending on whether 3d is currently on or off. Pretty nifty.

Yeha with windows 7 it was a simple dragging of the icon down into my task bar. No easy way to turn this on and off now. Ill try the above suggestions in the meantime :)
