All the ones I've played (which aren't many) have the same controlls. I don't think I've found a game yet that isn't better with the mouse & keyboard, though.
As for your system, looks fine to me. It could be better, I suppose, but my advice would be to save your cash for a bigger upgrade down the line. Paying big bucks for what will amount to a so-so upgrade is only smart if you've got a ton of cash lying around, in which case you can just hire somebody to take care of your box for you. ;)
