Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams

After searching the forum the only mention of this game is within a Rayman thread, so thought it deserved a thread of it's own. GSTD looks great in 3D, 3D ready infact so long as you select the DX9 version in settings Mentioning now, because Steam has this as a sale item, but only for another 1.5 hrs. If you enjoy your platformers well worth checking out. We are currently uploading a video and will have a SG page on site shortly, but not before the sale ends.

UK uploads Grrrrrrrrrrrrr Finally video uploaded, This game really does look great. Really happy with the £3.24 purchase. It's now back to £12.99 but still well worth considering. http://www.3dsolutiongaming.com/2013/05/giana-sisters-twisted-dreams/

I got a request some time ago to take a look at this game + expansion (!?) (Thanks for Vulcan_S@WSGF for donating the games). Since I do love good platformers and I do enjoy Rayman very much I gave it a try;)) I will not make a review of this game but suffice to say that this game introduces some awesome mechanics and is enough to keep you hooked up (at least it did with me). What I want to focus is the problem with Surround/Eyefinity Rendering. By default, you can select the resolution just fine. Aspect Ratio from the config is locked between the regular values, but the game DOES however calculate the correct aspect ratio. However the game exhibits a Vert- behavior meaning everything is UBER zoomed... I did played today with the games (expansion is stand-alone) and fixed this behavior, so now the game is acting as it should...in a HOR+ fashion. I tested this only on 3 Monitors on Landscape, but I image it should work on all setups. The engine comes with 2 renderers, a DX9 and DX10-11. Personally I haven't seen a difference but oh well... I fixed both of them. The reason I did this is since the game is almost flawless in 3D Vision Surround but ONLY on DX9 rendering. Under DX11 it has some weird halos and the likes.. Screenies (2D): Screenies (3D): I have attached a couple to this post so you can download and see them;)) The plugins for WSF are not done yet, but I plan to make them in tomorrow (hopefully). In the meantime I hope you enjoy the screenshots;)) Best Regards, Helifax

I've always been curious how sidescrollers work with Surround, are there parts at the beginning and end of each level that are missing on the extra screens?

Perfect 3D. It's a bit easier than the first one and it's short (9 levels, I believe-- the first had around 28 levels). Fun game, though.

Not talking about surround... but am I doing something wrong? For me this game does NOT work in 3dvision... EVERYTHING is rendered at the exact same convergence, so when that happens there can be no 3D pop out! In fact coverg seems locked in the game I sat there for a minute holding increase converg key and nothing. What I compare to is TRINE 2.. that is 3d... for me this game is literally 2d in 3d. Can someone tell me why I dont see what you all see?

Cool game. Looks AND FEELS different in low persistence, which is crucial for side-scrollers. Owners of Vision 2 should give the game a chance. As to 3DV v1 monitor owners - I don't know how shutter glasses improve movement clarity, so it's hard to say. Just don't resign after first few levels. The whole game is much worse than the best in the genre (Rayman Legends or Donkey Kong Country series) but after a boring first 1/3 of the game, Giana Sisters starts to be interesting. It gets more difficult, more engaging. And the music. If you remember the old times (as I do) you'll love the music. As to 3D - I had a little problems with it back in the days, it looked mostly OK, but not nearly as amazing as Rayman Legends or Trine 2. Not bad, though. It's a good platformer, really fun when you get to the more difficult levels. I still plan to buy and play the expansion... some day. Too many games in the queue now :)

I have always had advanced settings enabled... but just to be sure i changed from ctrl + F6 for increase converg to just plain old 6 and held it down for a short bit and it started to increase ... which is good so now I have control... But to be honest in my humble opinion this game is unplayable in 3Dvision... The backgrounds are rendered at the wrong depth and in general a 5% pop out capability (or so) is hardly worth the anomalies the game creates in 3D. So yeah sorry... got it working to adjust converge but no good IMO BUT the game itself looks worth the time to play I'm going to give it a try in 2d

I think I may have got it... the sweet spot is a really narrow zone though perhaps that's why I missed it?... I am currently using high depth settings then dialing the converg setting in slowly... too quick and the sweet spot gets past over. Yeah, I mean, other than the score top right game looks pretty darn good... sorry to bother I guess

No, something seems wrong in your shot there. In my case there was no sweet spot needed, it seemed good at all settings. I just cranked up the convergence because I like the look of toyification for games like this. In your shot, things look compressed and like billboards. It looks to me like Compatibility Mode of some form. Edit: Your screenshot has the eyes reversed. If you took that with Alt-F1, something is wrong with your system. I see Tridef in your signature, might be some interference. I'm running DX9 version, null profile. All settings maxed, including shadows.
