Can I ask you, with the following settings, what kind of frame rate SHOULD I be getting on Witcher 2, with graphics at 'low'?
I'm not sure, but surely a hell lot of fps. Trust me, gtx 480/580 are more than enough for gaming, today, even on High or Veyr High. There's absolutely no need to kill your experience by stripping games down of all their details and textures. You don't have an old mule, there, you have a workhorse more than capable of owning most recent games, even in 3D.
I have just one suggestion, though: just drop that card and replace it with a gtx 580. Trust me. The 480 is hot, needlessly power-hungry and less powerful than a 580. I was there, and when I had the occasion to replace my 470 (which, in the best scenario, is slightly cooler than the 480, so go figure) with a 580 I didn't think twice. I wouldn't turn back even in a hundred years, and I have a reference card. I've read that one of the latest 580s, with a custom cooler, can work wonders. I've tried with and without SLI, and even just one 580 can keep most games stable on 3D and High/Very High at 30-35 fps.

You missed the point....The point is: On dual GPU cards or SLI setups the rule of (FPS in 3D)=(FPS in 2D)/2 does NOT APPLY. This is true when using SINGLE GPU because the GPU has to render double the frames.
On dual GPU cards and SLI setups usually the GPU usage grows!!!! and thus the above rule is NOT AVAILABLE...

You don't belive me? try it yourself on a game that doesn't render fps=monitor refresh rate. For example: Monitor refresh = 120hz. Game in 2D will render 90 fps. Game in 3D will render more than 90/2=45 fps.
OK. I see that. But I still doubt 60fps will be achieved with my GTX 590 for indoors. It might, but I'd be happy with just 30fps indoors running 3D Vision. :)

I reinstalled to get patches 1.1 and 1.2, but indoors is still screwed. Bah.

You should get the FPS that you have when 3D is disabled from nVidia control panel -10% due to additional drivers that load and calculations that are made (This is the optimal case IF the game would be PROPERLY optimized) Unfortunately this is not the case....yet (stil hoping the devs will fix it sooner or later).

overclocking my gtx 580 direct cu 2 gives me a 1.2fps increase
so now i have 13.2 fps in indoor areas /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

please nvidia do something, this is getting tiring, really really tiring /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

With VSYNC off in WoW I am getting 190fps at login screen...

With VSYNC on 120fps

With 3D on and VSYNC off I get 60 fps

That's definately half of 120. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I've never owned a 480 so I can't speak for myself but I would NEVER buy a 590 looking at the benchmarks on LAUNCH DAY, they were HORRIBLE 580 in SLi ran SO MUCH BETTER than the 590 did. Maybe they fixed it now, don't know, don't care.

It’s strange that you quote 88fps as your 3D disabled frame rate.

I have a single GTX480 on an Intel 930 @ 3.8GHz with 6GB of tri channel ram and I would have told everyone I get about 88fps in the game...?

If you have an 590 and I have a 480 does this mean that the game is extremely CPU capped or is it just that the game is not as “the way it’s meant to be played” as the sticker leads us to believe?

Oh and just to add a little something, in cases where I would get 88fps in the game I end up getting about 42fps when playing in 3D, looks like the rule of half does work in this game, just not on the badly optimized indoor area’s as I get 14fps with 3D on or off.

Yes the 50% fps rule applies to this game due lacks of optimizations...and maybe proper sli usage....
By default when 3D is enabled VSYNC is also enabled (the drivers enables it) in order to properly sync the glasses with the monitors( even if in game you will put it on Vsync OFF).
I don't know Wow how optimized is at the moment....some half year ago or so when I played the 10 days trial..there were some poor optimizations for SLI if I remeber right...

On topic.. Any news about the witcher 1.3 patch? that should fix the aspect ratios and hopefully the 3D Vision performance?

That's strange, why do they cap the frame rates outside... to be honest don't they cap them inside as well? As I get 88fps inside and outside.

I played last night with 3D off just because I was sick of the slow down. It's ugly once you get used to 3D, 3D has a nack of making it not only... 3D but it also makes the textures look much nicer and I feel with 3D on you don't even need AA enabled as the 3D effect makes jaggies much less in your face.

Nope. Seems like E3 is really keeping Nvidia and CDPR pretty busy. It's almost Wednesday and I doubt we'll see any patches from either company this week. Probably late next week or early week after next.

Whatever patch CDPR puts out, I hope that it increases the 3D Vision performance. I'm ready to play this damn beautiful game!

Agreed. And this is with ALL the games. It somehow allows your eye to view the textures a lot closer than when they are projected on the 2D screen.

Right, the 480 is as fast in 3d as the 580,..580 is maybe only a few fps(3) faster....

2x 480 or 2x580 in sli are both faster then one single 590...
