Request: PJD6211 reviews, tips, comments
Hello. I have a Core 2 Duo PC (2.4Ghz) with 2 GB Ram and single 8800GTX. It is currently running Win7 32-bit. I am considering purchasing the 3D kit and viewsonic PJD6211 projector.

My intended viewing room has dimensions of about 15'x10'x7.5' (last dimension is height).

I generally keep the room bright enough to see my PC keyboard (which has no backlight) but darker than most people would choose for extended reading.

Given the room dimensions, I imagine I could manage a throw distance of 15'+ (by placing the projector in the closet).

I've read a fair amount about the trials, tribulations and triumphs you board members have enjoyed with the 6211. However, it would be much appreciated if some of you could help me determine whether it would work for me. I am particularly concerned whether the image might be too dark or dim. Therefore, your reviews, tips and comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi gme3d, you’ve no doubt read my thread about this PJ, which i've had since August.

Only within the last week has it finally been rendering 3D the way it should and no doubt was designed to do (CD1.15 drivers) …glasses on right way up.

I previously had a Sony HS60 720p PJ which is LCD, and i find the brightness on the VS to be excellent.

I use in a room with curtains (draps) that aren’t especially thick so there is a lot of ambient light in the room during the day and unlike the Sony, the VS by comparison really is more than bright enough.

Since i have installed the new drivers i have re-played most of the games again and they are much much better.

Batman, whilst previously excellent, is now jaw dropping. I have absolutely no ghosting. Tomb Raider lost world is something to be hold, (Lara's "Modelling" is great in 3d !! )

The down side is that the throw distance is not the best,...and i have to invert the PJ, if not the image is on the celling as unlike my old Sony, it has no real Lens shirt.

In hindsight, i would have purchased the 6381 which is the same PJ but with a much better throw distance.

This said however, i would NOW, post CD1.15 DRIVERS, recomened this PJ.

hope this helps.

Thanks. It's nice to hear that from someone who both owns the items I am interested in and has some knowledge of my own circumstance (from the OP). I'll consider the 6381. I do feel as if the whole thing gets more expensive every time I look at it -- e.g., basic viewing screen vs. premium screen, basic vga cable vs. premium vga cable. Of course, upgrading to the 6381 would be a more significant jump than those. (By the way, if you have recommendations for the screen or cable, I'd be interested in that. I bookmarked a $30 cable mentioned in your thread, I believe.)

Thanks again.

Apparently it does, but I have yet to detect any artifacts from this!

me neither.

now its working correctly i am very impressed with the 3D render.

also, and its something that has been mentioned on these boards, the image is effectively rendered twice, so whilst your only getting the 1024 X 768 res, the clarity is equal to a res. much higher one.

The downside for me thlough is the screen size is smaller which is also related to the throw distance and the fact i cant physicaly get the PJ any furher from the screen (my games room is in one our spare bedrooms which is'nt the biggest).

Interesting... While technically the video card does render the image twice, the checkerboard encoding pattern only encodes 50% of the pixels in each "view". If the projector is using the checkerboard method then you will see slight shimmering on objects that are only a single pixel in width (fences at a distance). I never really noticed it at first either until I played HL2 and looked at the fence when approaching it. Turning S3D on and off while walking towards the fence showed it the best. Definitely not a show stopper, just something I never noticed before. If this PJ is doing a full page flip at 120 hz and not using the checkerboard pattern then I would be quite impressed.

Hope you enjoy the new PJ! Aren't ghost free images great! :)

and as an added bonus, less headaches and i no longer get a big red mark on my nose from wearing the glasses upside down.
