3d vision on Quadro 3800(win xp-32 bit) Windows XP Quadro 3800
Hi There,

I was looking around to see the previous posts by BigLars and some other one's on the same topic, but I can't seem to make anything run in stereo 3d. As a test, I am trying to play Knights_Quest_576p.wmv in Nvidia 3d Vision Video Player(of course viewing it with my glasses on and the whole thing..). We're using a Syncmaster 2233RZ .

To start off, I am trying to run the 3d vision kit on Windows XP(32-bit) with a Quadro FX 3800 card. Initially I tested everything with the latest drivers - 191.78 for the graphics card and 190.62 for the 3d stereo USB controller. With this setup and the corresponding changes in the nvidia control panel(as I mention below), nothing seem to give the 3d stereo effect.

Then I read BigLars' posts(http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=100228&hl=quadro&st=0) on making this work on XP, even though I was on a 32-bit OS. I copied over and installed matching (186.18) drivers for both the graphics card and the corresponding stereo usb controller driver. After making the changes, and adjusting the settings in the control panel for 3D vision video player(i.e. under 3D app global settings have enable overlay ON, stereo - display mode - Generic active stereo(with Nvidia IR emitter), stereo-enable is ON, Triple buffering is ON, and vertical sync - Force ON.

Under program settings, I have the same enabled as default for the application.

Even though, the emitter is lit up green(ish) and the glasses turn on with a green light as well, I am not really seeing any type of stereo - so am not even sure if there is any type of communicating between the emitter and the glasses. Can someone recommend some other tweeking I should try or any other suggestions other than I switch to vista/7 ?

Best,
Neeraj

If you have a Quadro card you have two options to use it in stereoscopic 3D mode.

Option 1: To use the Quadro Drivers for S3D mode, but only available for applications supporting Quad Buffer OpenGL.
Option 2: To use the 3D Vision drivers to be able to play games in Direct3D mode and to view photos and pictures.

You can normally freely switch between the two modes form the control panel, but in your case there will be a problem.

Since there are no 3D Vision drivers available for XP you won't be able to use the Option two and you'll have to find a video player that supports Quad Buffered OpenGL mode for playing back stereoscopic 3D videos under XP. The Nvidia player only supports Option 2 as far as I know, but you can try with the Stereoscopic Player (http://www.3dtv.at/Downloads/Index_en.aspx) I believe it has support for playing back videos with Option 1, but I have not tried it yet.

Just to follow-up, I've had little success with the 3D Vision drivers and steer Quadro users to the OpenGL driver located at the bottom of the "NVIDIA OpenGL 3.0/3.1/3.2 Support for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris". Bloody's right - the Quadro cards don't support Direct3D (which is why Nvidia's Stereoscopic Player doesn't work with Quadros, but the Player at 3dtv.at works great once you use View -> Viewing Method -> Quad Buffered OpenGL).

You should be able to install the 191.00 usb stereo drivers but if not, unzip that driver and install the .inf files manually by right-clicking and selecting 'install'. I have no (driver) problems running stereo apps using the 190.58 OpenGL driver though I've had to toggle a fair amount of settings on and off to get there (see this post).

So that means if I'm going to buy such a quadro card, I can use apps like Maya with windowed Stereo, but no Games and nvidia stereo player anymore?

Why isn't there a support for D3D with newer quadro cards? I can't understand tha
