Steam is having a funny gems trading event before the sale in two days.
Right now, I saw that you could maybe get Montague's Mount for essentially 5 cents. (50 gems)
Since DarkStarSword fixed this to be 3D, I'm interested. Maybe you are too.
You can also get Naissance, and A Story of My Uncle.
I need more games like I need a hole in the head. Seriously, at my current play rate, I think I have a lifetime supply.
Still, if I can get some games that work in 3D for free, I'm interested.
If you know of other undiscovered 'gems', please let us know.
This should specifically NOT be AAA games, you'll never get those with gems.

Overlord 2. I thought it was great (with my *first* fix :-) but no one else seems to give a crap about it. Christmas is a great time to get it, it starts out in a kid of Winter Wonder Land, and the snow effects and so on are great. You basically blow stuff up, it's cool, and has some great humour.

Gems? So how do we go about getting these gems? Definitely have to fire up Steam during lunch on the laptop.
When I gave A Story About My Uncle a try there were a few minor things that were off, like shadows on some of the rocks. I never got around to hunting them or even playing it after that. It's definitely enjoyable in 3D, flying through the air and all, just freetime's been really scarce to say the least. Lol.
Mike, I give a crap about it! That game looks like a blast ... just well time and all, I haven't even played the first yet. :)

Hi Mike, what a coincidence!
It was Overlord2's turn in my shame backlog and I tried it yesterday. You fix is the awesomest !!! LOL
What an incredible game, and such nice visuals. I probably wouldn'd give a crap in 2D, but in perfect 3D (thanks to you!) it's a blast.
Wanted to leave a comment yesterday on the blog, to advise the users that in case they get crashes due to the steam overlay, they need to delete those overlay.dll files. Once this is done, it works perfectly.
THANK YOU FOR THE FIX!

Converts a bunch of card to gems ... Woohoo I have 244 gems! ... looks at auctions ... 26k+ top bids ... sorts by lowest bids ... top bid 720 gems ... well at least there is another way to get rid of all the stupid cards cluttering up my inventory, that used to just be giftable games and coupons, other than selling them.
edit:that overlay crap is bu!!sh!t! There's no need for it to be invoked in the first place if it's disabled. We really need to b!tch more about it! ;)

You're welcome - that was my first fix :-) I updated it over several months as I learned new stuff, but I am still proud of it now. The game has some really great and varying scenes in it, colours, effects etc, it's really fun. You know, I think I will pick it up again this holiday, maybe let my son have a go :-)

Yup, looks like I overstated the case there with the Steam Gems. You can bid auction style on games, we are about half-way through all 100 auctions per game (58 remaining)
My bad assumption was that the original auction pricing would be reasonably close, but it looks like the auction bids are holding firm at higher than expected.
You can still get Montague's Mount for about $1. Naissance is holding at $4 or so.
The Gems are a strange Steam thing, you convert your inventory junk like wallpapers and emoticons into Gems. Gems have dollar value, 1000 gems is going for about $1.25, so you can just straight up sell them. Or use them to bid on old games that work in 3D, on a whim.
Always hard to understand the mindset of the people. The Sam and Max adventures work in 3D, and one of them has only 69 bids total, out of a possible 100. With a 1 Gem bid, you should be able to get this game. Then the current bid is 2000 Gems, $2. It makes no sense.
Your guess is better than mine as to what will happen for the remaining half of the auctions. Hold steady? Drop? Go up?

Converting cards to gems is a bad idea. Better off just selling your cards. It was a great way to clear out the useless wallpapers and emoticons though. Those yield you the most gems, and prior to this gem event, they were only going for 3 cents on the marketplace (1 cent net).

Yeah I got a little caught up in the moment. Lol. I really can't stand cards and all this other crafting bullcrap ... and now gems!!! So you can just buy 1000gems for $1.25(8gems=1cent) ... I think the dumbest part of the bidding is that it doesn't reset after the auction is won, so if people drive it up to a certain point at the very last minute to try and snag it, typical bidding strategy, then those higher losing bids remain in play for the next auction, unless they're pulled, leaving the next auction already most likely higher than the last ...

Ahhh... Good answer. I'll bet you are right. The lock-in for top bid snags the next one in line who already paid too much.
It really surprised me that the bids didn't drop over the couple of days. I mean I like Sam and Max pretty well, but only some one caught up in some other frenzy would pay $2.50 for a single episode of a game that is 15 years old.
I totally misread this one again, in my engineering brain, where I simply cannot understand human motivation.

I'll admit I got caught up in a little auctioning action last night on a couple of cheaper/possibly 3D games on my wishlist, I wound up paying about $1.10 and $1.50 for The Wonderful End of the World and Disney Alice in Wonderland respectively.
Some of those auctions were just out of control though, games going for more than they've been on sale in the past ... $500+ for the Holiday Profile!? Just plain crazy ... no offense if that was any of you. Lol. :P
I think one of the harder things was since most people edge you out in the last min. and all the auctions end at the same time, winning multiple auctions was nearly impossible. This really makes me wonder if they're going to introduce user auctions, where we can sell gift games from our inventory.
In the end Steam wins ... need gems, need funds in the wallet to buy said gems, cheapest add funds is $5, spend $5 to get $1 worth of gems ... Lol. See what they did there!? :)
