Steam allowing custom tags is potentially interesting if we tag enough.

Well, it's easy. You only have to type in the tags three times. Then you can just click headings for each game. So I'm going to catalog my entire library. Hopefully everyone does. In a perfect world, it could be a pretty useful filter for games people have missed.

Going back to that link posted about the joke tags.... Wow, if I was a game developer I would be pissed about this. I mean, I recognize that people will write what they want to write about the games they play, but as a developer, you want sales, and can't always deliver a perfect product. I wouldn't like the fact that any tool with a contrary opinion can plaster his feelings on the store page.

Seems to be coordinated efforts for people being jerks. Honestly, I haven't gotten to any of those yet. Most are very boring. A couple of racing games I just did only had a single tag: racing. If my 3D Vision Ready tag can't make the store page on those games, something is definitely wrong with the system.
EDIT: Just saw my first 3D tag. It was for the original Sega and Sonic Racing. It was a simple 3D tag. You don't see long tags. I wonder if being 2 letters got it priority.
2nd EDIT: LOL. Trackmania Valley doesn't have a single tag. There's gotta be something on that tomorrow.

I say better use 2 tags only; either "3D Vision Ready" or "3d Vision Fixed". No one knows, maybe broken games will get fixed in the future and it will be confusing seeing 2 contradictory tags.

I propose simply:
3D Vision Ready - games (including community fixes) with 0-2 minor 3D anomalies, zero major anomalies
3D Vision Excellent - games (including community fixes) with 3-5 minor anomalies, zero major anomalies
A minor anomaly being something that is only slightly distracting & not painful to the eye.

Im going to sound like a jerk but I would love this suggestion.. in a perfect world. As is lot of peoples ratings make me cringe especially when games first come out. I really don't trust people to follow anything especially as far as steam where any can post whatever besides "working" / "busted"
GG3D is the same idea and even in a non-steam community setting [if you catch my drift] but its ratings are all over the place even with rules. I can find at least 20 examples just on 3d vision side. I really cringe when I imagine a rating system on steam.

Doesn't look like it's possible to edit tags. You can personally remove your tag from given games, but not change or remove everyone else's. Sort of like you'd expect.
So if a game were tagged "3D Vision Broken", then subsequently fixed, the only way to remove the tag is if every single person who tagged changed it. This seems, uh, unlikely.
It seems to me that we should stick with tags that have longevity and are not ambiguous.
I suggest "3D Vision Ready", as a single category. No excellent, no Helix ready, just that single one. Won't change in the future. Doesn't tell you what to avoid, but certainly tells you what is playable.
Why just one? If any tag gets enough traction it becomes an actual category.

I agree. And it's probably better to just tag "3d Vision". 3d Vision Ready is a term for Nvidia ratings, it will confuse people who don't know about community fixes. Just my opinion.

Ooh, that's a promising thought. Maybe we should focus on 3D Vision Ready, but add a second 3D Vision Fixed tag to tip people off that they'll need to seek out a fix. So fixed games have both tags, native games have just the one.
I also really like the idea of a 3d vision requested tag. That way if a game is later fixed, "3d vision requested" and "3d vision ready" could coexist without being too confusing. Might also get attention from developers.

Yeah, that's probably true, a little too much baggage with "3D Vision Ready". NVidia's ratings are a bit of a shambles, and that doesn't seem like it's going to improve with 2.5D driver.
Not sure we need a "3D Vision Fixed". Anybody doing even the smallest searches will find the fixes.
I could see "3D Vision Requested" or "3D Vision Please" or "3D Vision Wanted" for busted games. If it were fixed later that wouldn't be too weird.
I could be happy with just "3D Vision". That says it's playable and good in 3D Vision, no matter how it got there.

Bo3b has a point, we don't know how evolutive/editable the tag mechanic will be, so we need to aim for longevity and clarity.
So from the initial idea of 3D Vision Ready / Broken / Fixed, I agree that it's probably best to just each of us tag all our games that we have enjoyed in 3D (either out of the box or after good community fixes) with only one tag, which let's hope will become a category, or at least be featured amongst the common tags the people see suggested.
This can be either "3D Vision Ready" or simply "3D Vision"
Then, maybe we can all agree on suplemental tags, if we feel they are needed.
The point here is:
We have such a small community, that it's even questionable whether we'll make any impact in the Steam databases. And if we do, maybe it will only help our own community, to easier sort through games we might have missed. People will not actively search for 3D Vision games, at least not yet (or never, if VR takes off big time - in which case we'll quickly come up with our VR tag :-) unless Steam does it by default)
So the only benefit we can hope to have from Steam tags is if:
1. Absolutely everyone on these forums start tagging their games asap with a predetermined keyword (might even not be enough, like I said)
2. Tags stick to games, and a "search tag" function is implemented, we'll find 3D-enjoyable games a little easier (althought like I've said before, we are so 3D-hungry and we visit these forums so often, that we probably will know about new 3D games or fixes from our community here directly, rather than from Steam)
3. People will start seeing the 3D Vision tag, will start wondering what it is, and who knows, next thing you know - we double our community from 50 people to 100.
We'll be a force to reckon with. That will teach them!!!
EDIT
I was posting at the same time as you, Bo3b. I see we drive towards the same simplified approach. If all agree, let's start tagging "3D Vision" for all the games we've enjoyed, regardless whether out of the box or community-fixed. Then we can see if a sub-category of tags is really needed. Because, if in a week's time "3D Vision" is not even selectable on Steam for a tag search, other tags are irrelevant, I think.
