Stuttering Problem After Installing 301.42 Driver Update, Help Please !
  1 / 2
Hello,

I own an Sony Vaio VPCF2, with nVidia GeForce GT 540M graphics driver. I bought it 1 month ago.

With 296.10 driver, there was no problems with 3D conversions from 2D to 3D, stereoscopic films, or 3D games, everything was working fine. Every game worked well, every film worked perfectly.

Then, 2 days ago that damn 301.42 driver update ruined everything. When I runned the installation, while installing Graphics Driver, black screen blinked twice, after that it screen faded away, it was all black. I waited for it to turn back almost an hour, but there was no change, then I restarted the pc, tried to perform a clean installation, but same problem occured again.

Then I downgraded to version back to 296.10 driver, performed a clean installation, it was successful. But I realized that some of the games made problems(Crysis, Flight Simulator, Dirt 3). They were all working fine before that update. And Battlefield 3 didn't work with 3D at all ! Only CoDMW2 worked normally. The problem is stuttering on games. 2 images aren't intercepting, and they are shaking so bad, there's no 3D vision.

And films which I open with nVidia's stereoscopic player issuing the same problem also. When I tried films to open with PowerDVD software, they works fine.

I hope someone can help me through this, thank you so much !

I tried previous drivers also, but the issue still exists. /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' />

I think those problems normally are due a bad driver update (maybe i wrong), try this steps in that exact order:

1) Delete the C:/NVIDIA folder (where the files of the previous drivers was extract)
2) Uninstall Nvidia Update
3) Uninstall HD Audio Driver (when ask for a reboot...reboot)
4) Uninstall 3D vision controller driver (both)
5) Uninstall graphics driver (when ask for a reboot...reboot)....if you have 3DTV Play software, don't uninstall (my case)
6) Start in Safe Mode
7) Use Driver Sweeper Software. Nvidia Chipset, Display and Physx boxes checked and press Clean.
8) Reboot Normal, Install the new driver (Custom-Clean installation) and Reboot when ask.

yeah, i also got problems installing 301.42 whql.
had to clean install it (like DHR suggested)
somehow the new installer has some problems with old drivers (got the beta version before that)

I really wanted to give good information and feedback about DHR's solution but there was no change about this stuttering problem.

I'd really welcome if you have any other suggestions, thank you !

try a clean install again but install the older drivers afterwards.

like this:

2) Uninstall Nvidia Update

8) Reboot Normal, Install the driver you used before 301.42 (Custom-Clean installation) and Reboot when ask.

see if the stuttering is gone...
if not, its probably not a problem of the 301.42 driver but something else.

also check if you did it right. the easiest way to do this is by checking after point 8 (reboot normal) if windows starts in a low resolution. (ie. 800x600) if it start in your native monitor resolution (ie. 1920x1080) there are still some old driverparts installed.

Good news !

I wanted to solve issue by Vaio care, then I realized that there's a program which is called VAIO 3D portal. Due to lack of this program, I couldn't play my games which does not support 3D, and stuttering problems occurs, also in movies. After installing it, the program corrected this problem by itself. But Vaio update downgraded video cards driver back to 269.47. But everything works fine right now. Should I apply the update, I'm so really unsure about it :S

Thanks to everyone helped me to get through this problem.

I'm having this problem too with the new 301.42 drivers. My games Diablo III, Mass Effect 3, and BioShock 2 don't work with 3D Vision. (StarCraft II does, but I wonder if that's because it has its own internal 3D Vision graphics settings.) I uninstalled all the graphics-related nVidia drivers, did a clean sweep in safe mode with Driver Sweeper, and tried installing again, but got the same problem. I installed the driver version before that, 296.10, and 3D Vision works fine again. So for me (and sounds like you too) anyways it looks like it's the 301.42 version that is causing the problem.

@ianc10
stupid question but did you check if the checkbox "use stereoscopic 3D" was enabled with 301.42 in the nvidia control panel?
because its real strange if 3d vision is enabled in the control panel but nothing happens when you start a game.

@erencan
i dont know - maybe the new driver makes problems with vaio 3d portal software.
i would try it again as now you know how to change back to your old config.

Hey guys, I followed this guide because I was having similar problems with the 301.42 drivers. My first attempt at installing them failed.
Things didn't seem to improve much after following this guide, still having some stuttering issues that I didn't have before.

I then researched clean installs and came across this in depth guide http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?high=&m=1174372&mpage=1#1174372.
There are a couple discrepancies between the guide you provided and this EVGA guide. I'm wondering if I messed things up here.

The discrepancies are:

1) Not to delete the c:Nvidias folder just the content in the driver folder within. You suggested to delete the c:Nvidia folder
2) Not to check the Nvidia chipset in driver sweeper, just check the physx and nvidia display.... they said this could cause major problems...

Thus I'm worried now after following your guide.

no need to worry.

afaik:
the nvidia folder is being created upon driver installation (it shouldnt matter if you delete the folder or its contents)

as for chipset drivers, what mainboard/notebook do you have?
you can easily reinstall chipset drivers and its even recommended to keep them up to date (even though they dont change often)
i would not recommend removing the chipsetdrivers at the first cleap up (sorry, didnt read the guide carefully, just copy&pasted it) but you could do it if problems persist and reinstall them.
anyway chances are your PC doesnt use a nvidia chipset anyway.
you can check if there are problems with the chipset by going into the device manager.

Having a similar problem. Screen flashes black and trips out in games (HON, TF2, D3, Plants vs. Zombies even....) and I get stutter as well as weird glowly things. Tried to rollback, tried the EVGA tutorial steps, still having the issue. That's what I get for listening to Blizzard telling me to update my drivers!

Have the same Problem, after installing the "GeForce 301.42 Driver". No 3D Vision is working on my "Acer HN274Hbmiiid (27 Zoll)" anymore /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' />
Only the screen flashes black...

I use a GTX 680 (GV-N680OC-2GD) on a Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 with a AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 955.

I had also problems with the old beta driver "GeForce 301.24 Driver BETA" and my new GTX 680.

Before i used my GTX 680 i had a GTX 570 and never a problem with 3D Vision! /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Bad, bad thats the new GeForce 600 series and the driver is so BUGGY /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

After some tryes to start 3D Vision i only get this nice screen: /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
