Just a word of warning to the unknowing, these are converted movies from 2D to 3D....I'll pass but thanks for the heads up.
I really hope this doesn't become the norm in Hollywood because we can say goodbye to mainstream 3D if this is the case. Studios should really be snatching up 3D cameras by the thousands by this point, and the fact that many studios are still torn over whether or not the financial investment will be worth it worries me for the future. Even people I know that aren't into 3D like I am are able to realize that the converted movies are gimmicky and sucky compared to Avatar's actual approach.
Are there even any movies coming out at all in 2010 that use native 3D cameras? I don't mean animated movies where this is easy to do with CG movies, but live-action movies like Avatar. Over a year would be quite a long time between live action native 3D releases....too much time for the public to forget about it. I have a feeling that's a no though since it would take more than a year to shoot a movie from scratch using native 3D cameras, especially since not many devs even considered doing it before Avatar got popular. That means native non-converted 3D movies probably won't start seeing screens until late 2011 at the earliest, even if they started filming months ago when Avatar's incredible success became apparent.
Although with next year's release of the 3D Avatar Blu-ray, peoples' interest in native 3D might be reminded, so maybe it was for the best that the 3D BDR of Avatar got pushed back so it's closer to the release of more native 3D live action flicks (ie not just animated family movies but serious movies like the next 'Alien' which might be shot in native 3D).

Yep I'm with you can't stand pseudo 3D, my brief time with 3Dfier plugin in Nvidia's stereo player and also Power DVD 10 ultra 2D-3D conversion just aren't up to par and I would rather probably go without and back to 2D. The more I try and make myself use them and like it the more I just hate it, pretty much like anaglyph.
You get a scene where it works ok at some point and I guess that keeps the faith in terms of you keep waiting for that next scene whereby it looks ok but to me it's not viable at all

I've actually had people tell me that 3d sucks because of movies like Alice and (especially) Clash. These 2d conversion could effectively kill the 3d movie industry by poisoning the concept of 3d cinema as being fake and crappy looking.

3D-conversion should be forbidden!!! Have seen "Clash of the Titans 3D" this friday. While the movie itself is really great, the 3D-conversion was really bad. Nearly all scenes suffered from depth-errors and unrealistic shaping. /verymad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':verymad:' />
Has "Alice in Wonderland" been this bad too?
Next time I go to 3D-cinema, I will visit "real 3D" movies only. Conversion doesn't earn my money.

it seems to me that people not obsessed with 3D (i.e., people other than us!) wouldn't even know the difference between fake 3D and real 3D....I know there have been sellers of simulated-3D anaglyph and field-sequential titles on ebay, and their feedback indicates that a lot of people don't even know the difference (GREAT 3D effects!!!!! etc.)...in fact, ONE seller (still on ebay) didn't even know the difference himself!
My first experience with fake 3D was Kiss Me Kate/Money From Home that I got from a seller in Australia...this was before I knew about fake-3D...however, I could still tell that the video didn't look 3D...objects didn't appear to be separated from one another on-screen, and it looked simply like the movie was 2D, but configured so that the video looked 'inset' into the TV...eventually I learned what was going on and those were the last fake 3D titles I got burned on.
I was really disappointed to discover that some of these newer movies were simulated 3D (i.e., Alice in Wonderland...then again, Tim Burton always manages to underwhelm anyway--Johnny Depp as Willie Wonka??? CASTING FAIL!). I am hoping that these are just a result of trying to catch up with the 3D craze that we are in the middle of and that future productions will START OUT being filmed in true 3D.

I just watched on of those "3D" trailers. I'm sorry but it looks like butt. I mean look at the crap job they did on Clash of the Titans in 2 months. Now you tell me some computer chip can automagically convert a video to 3D and do a better job? I don't know. Many scenes had no 3D and the scenes with 3D it looked ok but made my eyes feel weird. Not worth it.
