NV, i have a 8800GTS G92 and since i am not living in the past i have Vista running.
I also have a 50" 3D-Ready Plasma TV and an array of shutter glasses.
One supposed "advantage" of getting this NVidia card was that (supposedly) we have better support for stereo-3D.
As you know, your current Vista drivers only support anaglyph or Zalman monitors which are not interesting to me (22": too tiny)
I am also a hardware/graphics card enthusiast....and i think you shot yourself in the foot by releasing those drivers for Vista and NOT supporting other 3D methods like interleaved/shutters/DLP etc.
So...in essence, this means that now we can go and get a very *attractive* competitor's product which was just released....since there is no active support on your side for stereo-3d it doesnt matter whether i keep my 8800 GTS or get the new *** card.
Otherwise (w/o this range of various 3d methods supported) it would have been a strong point FOR you to keep the 8800GTS....but as said since you dropped all the other 3d methods and only left us with "cardboard red/blue" support this is moot now, it doesn't really matter whether to own an NV card....or get the "other" card, at least in terms of 3D.
You could've done yourself a favor and NOT dropped the support...then we WOULD have a solid argument why to keep the range of Nvidia cards and people interested in 3D would certainly prefer Nvidia w/ the stereo drivers.
It is beyond me why you dropped this and you might want to think this over, even if 3D is still rather a "niche"...there is a growing number of people getting "3d Ready" TV sets by Samsung, Mitsubishi, Ariwara etc..etc..

What’s funny is that I have already come to the conclusion that the OS on my new computer should be vista but that seems unlikely now because of this driver situation.
But I am happy to see their strong arm forced “upgrade†technique backfire like this. Their unethical attempt to make me buy a zalman monitor (which I would have never done) is now preventing me from buying vista (which I would have done.)
And of course, the chances of me ever buying an nvidia product again are decreasing by the day.

Yeah, that 4850 is looking mighty sexy. Unless the situation improves then Nvidia will have lost another niche market. I've been with NV for a while (since I found out about S-3D) but now its looking like they don't care about their loyal customers. I mean, I'm even planning to get the Zalman. I probably would have got it either way, but its just insulting to have support removed like that. I'm running 8800GTS 512MB on Vista 32-bit and my VR920 is apparently NOT ALLOWED by Nvidia. Nice way to reward your customers.

guys...no matter how you turn it..there is NO support under Vista EXCEPT the red/blue glasses & Zalman support.
It makes me cringe to see people chosing NOT to chose Vista, because of this situation. (A Vista OS discussion now would be way off topic).
But i say its ironic to see 3D enthusiasts w/ 7900 series cards and old drivers running a 5+ year old OS since they just dont have a choice.
For me, as PC enthusiast after building my new PC it ws no question to install Vista 64 bit (for a variety of reasons)..and as is the situation right now it doesnt matter whether to go NV or the new *** cards in terms of 3D. This is a fact.
NV shouldnt boast with "3d support" at all if it doesnt exists under a CURRENT OS.
As i said earlier, they just shot themselves in the foot...

I completely agree with you! I purchased an e-dimensional 3d glasses almost 2 years ago and I'm still waiting for this so promised 3d vista drivers from nvidia! Now that I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma TV I started looking for a solution again, and find out nvidia has abandoned us to our luck.
I've thinking about buying a new video card, possibly another 8800 gts to sli with my old one, but after this news about nvidia supporting only zalman, I changed my mind.
Now I've some facts consolidated:
1 - I hate zalman
2 - I'm very disappointed with nvidia behavior (ALL cards i've purchased so far, since 1998 - I believe - were nvidia, and most than to use with 3d glasses)
3 - No reason to buy a ATI card, until now. Starting looking for information about ATI 3d drivers NOW. Hope it exist.

Suggestion 1 Try a polarized or DLP shutter 3d mode :P
Seriously though, check up on iZ3D, they are supposedly making a video card agnostic driver (for any card) that runs current games, *with* special effects on.
AMD has support for 2 displays on Crossfire.
AMD currently has better support for overscan on TV/HDTV from what I hear (and have experienced with my G92/G80 cards).
Even without the 3D nVidia is really dropping the freaking ball.
Sorry nVidia, after all these years (back to a TNT2) and all these cards (GF2 GTS, 4000mx, FX5200AGP, fx5200 pci, 6600LE, 6200, 6600GT, 7900, 8800GT, 8800GTS etc + motherboards) you are just killing me.
The real slap to the face was the 8800GTS 320mb I bought just to see if it was true. And it was: You don't support 3D on purpose. The leaked drivers don't lie, with a simple profile tweak the 8800 series works perfectly in 3D. (sadly only on shutterglasses, I can't use them due to the flickering, so I had to sell them too.)
Trust me on this, you can only sustain a business when the people who know about the hardware are buying more and spreading the word. We were content to stick with you all this time because at least you supported 3D and all of these useful features like proper TV out and multi-monitor. now all ATi has to do is offer a 3D solution and you are just dead. Sad really. Fast sells, sure. But you can't just sell a car with a jet engine to people, they need to enjoy driving the car, and they can't when only one window is supported when you add a V8, or choosing a bigger screen means you can't even navigate your desktop. These problems aren't new, they have a logical solution. The only conclusions we can reach are that you purposefully are doing this to us, or you don't have the resources to change it. Either or both is pretty bad.
I sit on the fence for now, by giving up gaming all together I am able to wait for a solution. There is only so much a 7900GS can do, even at 650mhz. (By the way, those 8800 cards weren't even faster than the 7900GS in older games, quite a bit slower in fact, only faster in these new "shader heavy" games. I would kind of like to see more raw power and throughput, maybe AMD has something better, who knows.)
I miss gaming, but I have been burned too many times, must just sit back and wait. (oh if I had the money for a pair of DLP's, 4850's and a silver screen, then dual polarized projection could be mine with the iZ3D drivers. Even a single 4850 would hold me as soon as the iZ3D drivers support Planar polarized setups, just need a mirrored second screen for the 1.09 release :) )

I personally don;t have anything against zalman- I have never used one. It could be that the hardware is in fact good. What annoys me like most people is that you purposefully don't support things. I mean, a new stereodriver with support for shutterglasses and xp 32 bit, 64 bit and vista 32, 64 bit is all we want. Do that and you'll un-piss a lot of people off.

I use Tridef DDD with my vista 64 and it works in 3d with my shutter glasses
I have 3d ready DLP from samsung went to bestbuy.com and bought the 200.00 glasses and it works perfect under vista 64 because they load a special driver.
bad news is they charge 4.99 for each driver and that dosent bother me... but what does is they have WoW COD4 and some other bullcrap games for support.
i cant play age of conan or anything else in 3d until they release the plug-in but they are slow as hell
but the product works perfect with even stretch and skew the picture to make sure it fits...
NVIDIA you suck ass with this one! thousands of dollars and you want me to wear cardboard glasses.
if you want to try tridef / DDD go for it its worth every penny but they don't release enough plug ins
as a bonus you get to watch any avi/mkv or anything 1080p files you have for movies in 3d too with tridef

pappmasta - you can use a single tridef driver for many games. For instance you can play many many games using the halo2 driver. a compatibility list (unnoficial, work in progress), is here:

I've been using the DDD package for some time, and the 3D effect is as good as it gets, unfortunately, the framerates aren't as silky smoth as i would like at 1080p (even on my GTX260), because the drivers aren't optimized and they only use DX9.0
I would like to see this being supported natively by nVidia. I mean, is the money they're being paid by Zalman to be exclusive going to offset the lost revenue caused by pissing off their customer base and loosing them to a competitor? i guess only time will tell...

As i said earlier, they just shot themselves in the foot...
guys...no matter how you turn it..there is NO support under Vista EXCEPT the red/blue glasses & Zalman support.

Any sugestions? Thanks!!

NVIDIA you suck ass with this one! thousands of dollars and you want me to wear cardboard glasses.
if you want to try tridef / DDD go for it its worth every penny but they don't release enough plug ins
as a bonus you get to watch any avi/mkv or anything 1080p files you have for movies in 3d too with tridef
glasses are wireless enjoy

I would like to see this being supported natively by nVidia. I mean, is the money they're being paid by Zalman to be exclusive going to offset the lost revenue caused by pissing off their customer base and loosing them to a competitor? i guess only time will tell...
