Samsung 3D Ready 50" Plasma Anybody used this?
  2 / 2
Yep should be right to go with 3D.
Looks exactly the same as my Australian model PS50B450.
I have been to Samsung website with that model number you are buying and looked at the PDF manual and yes it has 3D synch port and 3D menu options.
Samsung's website screws up though by saying it is 1024x768 but it isn't it is 1360x768 as per manual and going by my own that is the correct resolution.

Besides being one of the only Plasma's to do 3D functionality I think you will be impressed with it as picture quality for movie watching Bluray/DVD or HDTV or PS3/360 is very very good.

Weird, I thought it was the PN50A450.

I checked the manual too, it does show the 3D sync output. Just confused as why its not advertised as a major feature. Makes me wonder if there are other panels that have the sync output but just not advertised.

When you use Nvidia driver and 3DVision + Elsa emitters (no dongle, correct?), does the Elsa wireless glasses also work?
I also made a simple Y-adapter which allows me to connect the nVidia and ELSA transmitter at the same time to the TV.
Thus I have the choice to either use the nVidia 3D Vision system or the iZ3D/ELSA combo, thus getting the best from both worlds.

A good list of all available 3D ready displays/projectors can be found here:

I would go for the B450 model over the A450 anyhow, better specs with contrast etc and always better to have a later model in that series.
I understand what you mean Samsung stopped advertising the 3D feature on these plasma's after the A450 on their website, pretty much A450 and B450 are the only models to have it in Samsung Plasma's and any after this do not have it trust me I did a lot of research when getting mine. Also there is definitely no other Plasma or LCD HDTV to have a 3D synch port or 3D checkerboard functionality.

The only other Tv's to do checkerboard 3D with appropriate 3D synch out port are some of the Samsung DLP range and Mitsubishi DLP range.
Australia does not sell DLP TV's at all and I am pretty sure others have said you cannot get them in Europe as well, pretty much only US has them which I don't understand why.

After some tweaking I got the 3d vision kit working with my 50" DLP Samsung.. It's fricken wicked !!

Street fighter 4 literally pops out right into my living room.

I can't wait until more games natively support 3d vision.

Back to more 50" 3d gaming !! :D Thank you for your assistance in the matter everyone.

Can you tell me a few things with your setup?
How far back from the Plasma are you as I could be too far back on mine currently about 3 meters sitting back.
What settings are you using on the Plasma for Contrast/Brightness/ Cell light and Energy Saving mode?
Also are you selecting mode 1 or 2 under the 3D settings?

Actually just noticed you put 50" DLP Samsung, do mean you got DLP or Plasma in the end?

Probably more a question for Nobsi as he using the 2 setups but I can probably answer it for you.

Elsa emitter would connect to the back of the Plasma 3D synch port and would not require the VGA dongle from the past, you would only be able to use LZ3D drivers in this method making them output the checkerboard effect. So yes Elsa wireless glasses would work via this method.

Nobsi has both setup of Nvidia driver and Nvidia 3D vision glasses and Elsa setup with LZ3d drivers because the 2 drivers can co-exist without issues.
He comes out from the 3D synch port off the back of the Plasma to a dual connector or Y adaptor as he puts it so he doesn't have to unplug the cord that goes to either emitter from the 3D synch port to the input on the Nvidia 3D vision emitter and the Elsa emitter.

Actually Nobsi are you just using a 2.5mm stereo dual headphone adaptor to achieve this?

Hey, sorry for the delayed response..

I am sitting about 10 feel back from the t.v, and I have to say I'm enjoying it more than my 100" projector screen.

I haven't tweaked the settings much in the plasma, I'm using the 'Movie' mode, as I found that to my liking.

I'm also using mode 1 for 3d.

I find the 3d very very good on a large screen, there is ALOT more pop out than on the 22"..

And yeah, I meant Plasma.. my bad..lolz, I feel like I got a hell of a deal, 1100 brand new, you can't go wrong !!

So after testing a few more games, some work better than others in terms of ghosting/image quality..

This is certainly different than playing on the 22" 120hz Samsung.. not bad, just different.

I find I don't use as high separation levels as I did on the 22" screen.

I'm also finding a considerable amount more of pop out due to the proportions..

I'm having a problem with all games that are in the Source Engine..

For some reason they launch in 1920x1080 even after changing the resolution to 1360x768 in the options of the game,
and also forcing it via command line..

The game will say it's resolution is in 1360x768 but the t.v will say 1920x1080i..

All the other games I've tested that work having a matching t.v resolution and refresh rate.

Sounds like it's detecting the screen through EDID or something, I don't have any Source Engine games unless Left 4 Dead is one? I don't have any issues keeping that in 1360x768 resolution.
Have you tried labeling the HDMI/DVI input on your Plasma to PC? Labeling an input isn't just labelling as in a name convention it can actual have different results on the feed of the input.
You might also want to play around with the settings to reduce or manipulate ghosting / image quality. As per my post on the previous page try changing contrast/brightness/cell level and energy saving mode to low/med/high. I understand that alot of the image settings are greyed out when you select once you turn 3D on the panel to on, but I have found you can change settings before you turn on 3D and they should carry through. I tested this by changing colour tone from normal to cool in the settings than turning on 3D and checking the menu option which was now greyed out again due to 3D turned on but it remained at cool. Here is a link http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread....1096&page=9 in regards to peope who have calibrated the screen, its a good read. Also what I have found out being on input HDMI/DVI means it greys out alot of the picture configuration because if you put the connection from your PC to HDMI1 or HDMI3 you get full range of settings, whereas HDMI2/DVI port being the only one you will get 3D enabled off.

Hi bullripper, you are absolutely correct about my setup, couldn't have explained it better!

Actually the ELSA glasses would sync with the 3D vision driver (because the ELSA emitter is connected in parallel to the nVidia emitter due to my Y-adapter), but the nVidia transmitters IR signal interferes with that of the ELSA transmitter, so neither glasses would work. You would have to cover the nVidia emitter to allow the operation of the ELSA glasses in combination with the 3D vision driver.
But actually I use either the nVision system OR the iZ3d/ELSA combo.
Actually Nobsi are you just using a 2.5mm stereo dual headphone adaptor to achieve this
No, I used the VESA 3pin female plugs from 2 now useless ELSA VGA dongles and one VESA 3pin male plug I bought in an electronic component shop.

I have a Dell Optiolex 745, running WindowsXP. My PN50A450P1D plasma TV has the latest firmware. My display card GeForce 8400GS has the latest driver installed. I have tried to connect to the TV using DVI-HDMI and HDMI-HDMI to both port HDMI1 and HDMI2, but the input selection on the TV for the HDMI ports are greyed out, which I can not select it. Someone suggested to rename the port from "----" to "PC". I tried that, but still can not select the HDMI input.
What can I try next?
Thanks!

Besides being one of the only Plasma's to do 3D functionality I think you will be impressed with it as picture quality for movie watching Bluray/DVD or HDTV or PS3/360 is very very good.
i can confirm, that samsung 3d ready plasma works great with 3d content, but i tested only pictures and movies, not games.

my configuration: samsung ps42b450, nvidia fx5500 card, hdmi connection between them, 1024x768 32 bit display mode, elsa revelator (wired) plugged into tv.

I use it mainly as movie player, tested 3d content found in the net. Played with stereoscopic player (under winxp) and mplayer with 3d checkboard filter (under linux).
For pictures i'm using StereoPhotoMaker. Plasma tv needs 3d checkboard picture to display as 3d, so with picture viewer you should use '3d dlp tv', with movie player '3d ready dlp tv' output mode. Then you need to switch plasma mode to 3d.

If you only want to view stereo movies or pictures, you don't need nvidia card at all. Any computer can display 3d checkboard, the only requirement is hdmi connection and 1024x768 (or 1360x768 as mentioned in tv manual).

Other nice feature is 2d to 3d conversion available. I don't know how it works, becouse it shuldn't at all, but result is very nice :) of course it is not the same effect as 3d movie, but there is a little bit of depth in it.
