Any form of further acknowledgment would be appreciated, even a simple "we are still looking into it" remark would have been ok

We are looking into it, but do not have an answer.
Whole lotta folks are interested in finding a solution to enabling 3d with the 485m on the m17x besides those of us who already have the card. I've had over a dozen alienware owners interested in buying a 485m contact me if you guys can give us a fix for this. So thanks, Andrew, for keeping us up to date.

Andrew I'm going to guess that the restrictions introduced in drivers post 190.51 was some sort of licencing issue with Nvidia trying to coax more revenue out of stereoscopic 3D, well it seems to me that all it has done is alienate many potential new Nvidia customers who are choosing AMD/ATI products in preference, not to mention the issues and complications this has introduced with products like SiBeam (WiHD) etc, you guys really need to get your heads round this restriction and work out if it's doing more harm than good.
A simple solution would be to re-address and review your restriction policy and and revert back to older driver policy of NO RESTRICTION, why create all this extra work ?. People are getting increasingly aggitated that they cannot use a $800 state of the art Nvidia Mobile GPU as it was intended on capable hardware, to be honest "it's rediculous"
You guys need to take a long hard look at this, and I don't blame the OEM's, this issue is firmly with Nvidia and OEM's are having to jump through hoops to get past it and enable their hardware through some serios BIOS workarounds.

You will never find 3D by their own because if they do that, they will need to give compatibilities and taking responsabilities. So they will say in a easy way: ''we are trying...'' but be sure nothing will come.
As an example we need to mod by ourself for having working driver...LOL ===> GTX485m By NVIDIA doesn't have any Nvidia driver: That's so funny. Maybe ask firstly working driver before asking 3D vision.

Well I see the new 3d Clevo 17" notebook has 3d vision support with the 485m. Obviously the 485m is 3d capable. Can't we just get the Dell display to play nice with the 485? How hard is that? Still hoping for some help from you guys, Andrew.

This issue will likely come down to thermals - the 485m was never designed to work with the Dell. We are looking into it, but I dont have warm fuzzy about it.

With my 485m installed in the M17x I never get above 65 degrees when running benchmarks or gaming over 3 hours. New Nvidia drivers out direct from Alienware, want to check those out. My M17x is currently not working. NOT BECAUSE OF THE 485M, Andrew. My system board was sheduled to be replaced b/c it was one of the original defective batches and the dell repair tech put in the new board and now its out of commission (thanks drunk dell repair guy). Still waiting to hear back Andrew. thanks for your time.

Andrew this is not a temperature issue, the 485m runs fine in the R3, similar temps to the 460m, the R3 is also equiped with a 230w power supply so no issue there either, this issue is simply that the 485m does not work with the internal 120hz LCD panel in 3D using current Nvidia Drivers 270.61, the drivers simply don't recognise the panel as 3D capable, it does however work on external devices like TV's etc in 3D, in fact as already mentioned there is no official driver for the 485m from Nvidia (your No1 Mobile GPU)
Now maybe there is another approach to this, why not add the 120hz 17.3 Laptop 3D LCD to your devices list as a 3D capable display quite simply because that is what it is

Now Clevo releases a laptop that has 3D w/ the 485M, this is being restricted in the driver, please get it removed...
This is really becoming the last straw. I will be ditching NVIDIA completely if this is not fixed. AMD does not have restrictions in place for their drivers and allow them to be installed on all hardware. I have to INF mod any driver because you don't allow "unsupported" cards to be used with your drivers and it has to be done through the OEM. Dell's drivers are always out of date so it's frustrating when you are releasing drivers that fix all these issues and it's not "officially" supported.
If this is not fixed I will be dropping Alienware and NVIDIA in the future completely and I know others will follow suit.
