Dual monitor stereo with mirror setup
Hi All!
I want to use two monitors with mirror stereo setup, as it was possible in previous (two years old) driver for XP. The problem is that at each my try to configure stereoscopic settings with the wizard, it say to me that anaglyph stereo mode is possible only. My PC configuration is follow:
- GTX250 (dual video output)
- Two monitors 60HZ (DELL2007)
- Vista64 SP1
- Driver 182.50
Two years ago the 60HZ of vertical refresh was perfect enough for two monitors with mirror stereo setup. Hope that the modern driver can do the same too. I was looking this forum for any kind of solution and not found it. Please share your experience!

Unfortunately very true. :( The only support for your rig is either the iz3d driver and maybe the ddd-driver. Going back to winxp and an old 7900gt is of course also possible... I have no idea if nvidia ever plan to support different stereosolutions like the once did but i wouldn't count on it in the near future.

slava - are you using a Planar stereomonitor setup or something else?

It is really terrible! I think it just a business strategy from NVIDA to push its own shooter glasses on a market.

As I see you are using the iz3d driver. Is it good one? What about its performance, adjustable, stability and stereo quality? I know what I can test the trial by myself, but your experience will tell me a lot in a simply way…

I use just two monitors with front-surface mirror in between. About 5 years ago, after a lot of experiments, I was found that only this configuration can produce the brilliant stereo 3d.

I think we all have to accept that. Regarding me future stereodrivercapabilities would decide which graphiccard to get next though.

Regarding iz3d-drivers: If the game is dx8/dx9 it has really great chances to run on your rig. A cautious statement would be that the compability/quality is about the same or even better as for 3d-vision. The stereomirror option is not free but you can try it for (i think) 30 days before you need to activate your specific output. If you try to run the driver remember to turn off the nvidiastereo if you have it installed (and vice versa of course). In my experience you do not need to deinstall one driver to make the other one working, just deactivate.

Iz3d driver properties: Hud-elements are often rendered at screen depth which is good. Usually very few problems with postprocessing/hdr/bloom/motion blur effects etc... Iz3d drivers give a very comfortable 3d-experience. Caveats: It doesn't work (yet) for online games which uses punkbuster and some other gameguard systems. (the driver is detected as a cheat). It's not a perfect driver for shutterglasses since you need to make sure the ingame fps needs to be higher than the shutter refreshrate (to avoid imageswapping between the eyes).

The nvidiadrivers works fine online with gameguardsoftwares. Sometimes they have problems with postprocessing effects. The hud is more often than not rendered at a specific depth and therefore follows your convergence/separation setting. It's usually not a big problem and a good stereoeffect should be reachable anyway.
This is mostly in regards to older drivers but i've seen signs that newer stereodrivers also may have these properties.

Important note: Since i'm not able to try 3d-vision out myself everybody with experience can of course point out some eventual errors i said!
Winvista has never been interesting since i occasionally use an old 7900 and older stereodrivers which only works for xp. When win7 is somewhat finished i consider a dualboot thus jumping vista all and entirely.

cheers
