Wow bro.. You are way off. 3D is not that great here. You probably should have mentioned how extremely poorly optimized this game is. Do not get for 3D vision but....
Non 3D it is ALOT of fun. Online works fine as well. Don't expect to play it on high and it is not your fault. People with GTX480's are having FPS issues. I am sure they will patch it.

Kristioff you lose a mancard.

Hey Guys,

New to the forum and wanted to chip in on this thread after searching the web with the hope of learning that nVidia is working on a 3D Vision profile for Blur. I'm a bit surprised by some of your responses, and not so by others.

Thought I'd share my experience, for what it's worth, because I love the game now but didn't at first.

First, my system:

i7 920 @ 3.8
6GB RAM
GTX 480 2-way SLI
nVidia 256 May 24th drivers (and associated 3D Vision drivers also released that day)
Win7 64

When I first started Blur, for whatever reason I decided to play it without 3D vision. I was extremely disappointed with the graphics and framerate. It felt like a 10 dollar game you'd get from Steam and it looked nothing like the previews. If I had actually measured the framerate, it would have looked good on paper but there was the occassional stutter that ruined the experience (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). Toning down the graphics did nothing to fix it so you know it is either drivers or game code. I simply attributed it to the fact that the GF100 (GTX 480) architecture is new and subsequent drivers would fix the framerate or a game patch would do the trick, though I was just shocked by the crappy graphics.

I also noticed the same effect with Bad Company 2, where even with the graphics turned down there was the occasional (like every second) stutter when in 3D mode. When not in 3D, I can play BC2 with max graphics 8x AA at a flawless 120 fps @ 1680x1050. In 3D, it is basically just as smooth but with that occassional stutter no matter what the settings are.

SO, I uninstalled and reinstalled 256 drivers thinking that I tinkered with settings too much and besides I was noticing some wierd behavior with the profile management in the nVidia console (like, my profile for Mass Effect II disappeared). Here's the good part, and sorry it took so long to get to this point, but after the driver reinstall everything plays in 3D at the same performance as when not in 3D-- no stutter! BC2 plays flawlessly, perhaps at 115-120 fps (the occassional mis-sync is noticed between the card and monitor) even with max graphics 8x AA-- with just one exception, I turn shadows to LOW.

Since BC2 is the only game I own that pushes my system to the limits in 3D, I decided to give Blur a go in 3D. Damn, what a difference! RACING IN 3D DEFINITELY IS COOL! Of course in 3D vsync is forced and I run it anyways, but I would guess the framerate is about 118-120 (again, every 5 seconds or so you might notice a skip). The graphics are great, don't ask me how this is different, but they look fantastic.

OK, but here's the reality. There is no profile yet for Blur, which is what prompted me to search and find this forum. This means that yes, there is ghosting (convergence) but you can tweak this yourself. In case you don't know how, you must enable the feature in the nVidia Control Panel | Set up stereoscopic 3D | Set Keyboard Shortcuts window. To be honest, I haven't had much luck doing it myself. I can get the text to look great in the menu part of the game, but not the ghosting of the cars. You can make some improvement, but without a profile update it won't be perfect. For now, set the 3D level to 10% or whatever you can tolerate.

Anyway, I almost gave up on this game and I wanted to say that the PC version rocks for anyone else out there that wants to give it a try.

this game is a big disappointment for me in 3d. i was really looking forward to split screen gaming in 3d with my family. maybe someday it will get patched. no amount of convergence adjusting makes any difference. lowering the depth helps a bit- but whats the point of low depth 3d gaming?

It saddens me (well, not really) that some of you aren't having a good experience with it in 3D. I would likely ignore this game all together if it weren't for the fact that playing it in 3D is totally awesome. I promise I'm not like an nVidia secret agent or Blur developer or anything like that. :) This game is simply awesome with 3D Vision. It DEFINITELY needs some convergence tweaking by nVidia but we know that will come soon enough.

I know may seem like a waste of time, but try completely uninstalling the nVidia drivers (both for the card and 3D Vision) and reinstall the 256 version along with the 3D Vision version of the updated 256 driver.

Card driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista...57.15-beta.html

3D Vision driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce-3D-vi...in7-257.15.html

Don't change any settings what so ever after doing so, other than going through the 3D Vision setup wizard once again and disable the 3D Laser Light thing (hurts fps). Oh and of course enable SLI if applicable. :)

I just read your sig and learned that you are using a 65" tv for gaming. I wonder if that makes a difference when it comes to convergence issues. That is, perhaps the bigger the screen the greater the effect of ghosting.

...just a thought. It would be a nice test if you could hook up your monster PC to a 120Hz monitor. You've got a sweet machine, but I question how well a big screen DLP handles this sort of thing. Obviously you've gamed in 3D before on that TV and you are comparing the Blur experience to that, but perhaps Blur just needs some serious convergence correction for your overly sensitive TV.

Aren't DLP's better for ghosting than LCD's? That's just what I have seemed to notice many on this board saying. They also make it sound like projectors are even better than DLP's.

Just tried again to make sure I am not crazy. Horrible. Do not try. The game is 2D is good (poorly optimized) but FPS is not so great with my GTX470

im running non beta drivers- im not big on beta drivers. Maybe that is the difference. ill post up if i get better results whenever the 256 drivers are official.

Dlp tv and projector usually has wonderful 3d results. The only time i ever have a problem is when a game does not support 3d vision.

like i said earlier- the problems are not that bad if i turn the in game visual quality down to minimum and lower the depth to the minimum. Im just so used to full depth and high visual quality that the lower settings are very disappointing- i dont like playing at levels lower than consuls.

this is a fun game- hopefully it gets better in 3d someday.

I'm now running the 256 drivers and I could swear the ghosting has been reduced since I went to these drivers, I tested my theory on Borderlands [as I knew it suffered quite badly from ghosting before] and it's still there but seems to be a lot fainter. I also get hardly any flickering now, even if I play in broad daylight or with my other monitor turned on. I selected the suggested option in the 3D wizard [not other monitors or remotes in room].

There is the slight chance it could just be my brain playing tricks on me, but I thought it was worth letting you guys know anyway.

As for Blur... Maybe when I'm finished with NFS Shift :).

What I think would be cool would be a game that had both split screen and online play, so that you and a friend could play split screen against other people without having to use 2 computers.

The WHQL version will be released at the end of this month, but dude don't be concerned about the "beta" label. I'm a developer by trade and a hobbiest game developer and I've been following the news regarding the 256 release. I think the biggest reason why they called this beta was more for PR reasons than anything else. People are really upset that 3D Vision Surround isn't yet supported and that is going to be the major addition to the driver release due at the end of this month. It would have been an insult to not call this version beta since to most people it is not considered complete without Surround support.

Nothing is going to change in the next few weeks to make the current 256 driver more stable or whatever-- it would actually not be a good thing if they found something wrong this late in the game with respect to this driver. They should just be focusing on the 3D Vision Surround for the most part.

Hey, if you don't like it, just uninstall 256 and reinstall 197. Your computer won't break.....promise!

Are we talking about the same type of "ghosting?" Ghosting with respect to 3D Vision, at least to my understanding, relates to the convergence of two polarized frames being rendered for the purpose of tricking your eyes into seeing in 3D. In this context, ghosting occurs when the two frames are not aligned properly and you see "carbon copies" of the models (usually one to the left and one to the right of the center, vividly clear model). The carbon copies have also been described as shadows.

This is different than what ghosting means with respect to traditional TV lexicon. The end result is basically the same to the observer, which is a carbon copy of an object on the screen, but the cause is completely different. In that respect, DLP's may be better at eliminating ghosting over other projection technologies, but I think LCD's are the absolute best way to display a digital image-- period. LED lit LCD's is simply the best in my opinion, but personal preference plays a big part in these types of assertions.

With respect to 3D Vision ghosting, I'm not sure how LCD's and DLP's stack up against each other. I wonder if it is not the technology that makes a difference, but rather the size of the screen that matters. Just a thought. I have no idea really.
