Must be a Direct X Engine then instead of an Open GL. I would play Doom 3 once again in 3D Vision. If id are successful, they just can go on converting Rage! I havent bought it yet only behause of the missing 3D. 2D Gaming is not an option anymore for me. So go ahead, id!

But everything on the XBOX360 is DirectX9 anyway. That's the only way accessing the graphics hardware on the XBOX using the console SDK. Even John Carmack said this in an interview here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/e3_2008_the_john_carmack_interview_rage_id_tech_6_doom_4_details_and_more
It’s still OpenGL, although we obviously use a D3D-ish API (on the Xbox 360), and CG on the PS3. It’s interesting how little of the technology cares what API you’re using and what generation of the technology you’re on. You’ve got a small handful of files that care about what API they’re on, and millions of lines of code that are agnostic to the platform that they’re on.
Looks like ID software just favors OpenGL on PC in spite of having a ready to use DirectX version of Rage.

John Carmack mentions in the official press release about stereoscopic 3D support:“DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

I saw a box that said PC\DVD in the commercial which means that it is getting RELEASED on the pc. But the 3D I'm not so sure about.

And did anyone else think that a marketing line like that sounds weird coming out of John Carmack's mouth?

DOOM 3 on the PC will have 3D support, at least for an experimental HMD called Rift. Not sure about 3D Vision, though.
