Windows 7 lets you install multiple display drivers if you want to have ATI 3D via iZ3D or DDD drivers and occassionally use Nvidia 3D Vision (I only do to test development or more correctly lack of it). iZ3D provides a free graphics driver for ATI users that works with shutter glasses, that is except Nvidia's due to their ******* conduct. Today iZ3D just released a new 1.11 beta that supports DX10,10.1 and 11, so you can go ATI and enjoy superior 3D (convergance management, better syncing, clearer glasses=better colour and contrast). After using Nvidia 3D Vision and changing to iZ3D and DDD was a very pleasant 3D surprise but you need to get alternative shutter glasses like the Samsung SSG1000 I got.
I personally bought a 5970 and it absolutely eats my former Quad 295 setup (even in single card mode /sick.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />), in every respect frames, quality, heat, power. The 480 one day will probably be a great card but as of now it seems to be a nightmarish card heat wise and consumer performance, durability is not known as current release data is derived from cherry picked cards accumulated over a long production timeline supplied and controlled by Nvidia not actual consumer retail products making the results quite questionable especially given Nvidia's recent history, beware.

I dont understand why on earth you would want to give yourself a pain in the arse simply to retain the ATI card unless your a real ATI fan boy ?
The answer is simple,...If you want 3D vision then get an NV. card. If not stick to your ATI card with the 5 extra frames per second and the 5 .c less heat. !
DOH !
oh, and there is ZERO ghosting on the DLP beamers. And i do mean ZERO.

I do not understand currently wanting to keep a nvidia card in for anything but physics either, if you do not have a 3D ready display or alternative glasses other than Nvidia 3D vision glasses and want 3D it is right to stick with Nvidia only, ATI graphic running parrallel to Nvidia graphics 3D sync is not going to work due to the framerate hit of 3D Vision affecting the already inferior performance of the 295 against a 5970. However, if you had the resources the ATI + iZ3D / DDD and non-nvidia glasses do provide a much better 3D experience than Nvidia 3D vision kit right now. Before commenting on this last statement try and experience the ATI + iZ3D / DDD package first hand.

You didnt read my first message correctly. I do not have an ATI GPU yet I am in the dillema of choosing a 5970 or the 480

The GTX480 just doesn't deliver enough fps in the games I want to play.
The HD5970 on the other hand does...
But I also don't want to switch back to 2D.
SLI GTX480 is NOT an option for me.
