i5-2500k is pretty strong still, if you OC it right :) FullHD 3D is almost exactly equivalent to 2560x1600 2D. 980ti SLI will be a huge improvement, especially if/when the CPU limit bug is also fixed. Consequently, keeping up with tradition, nvidia always releases the Ti / Titan cards to spoil AMD/ATi's new card parade. This means it will be released at about the same time as Vega.

I'm using a 980ti OC MSI gaming SLI and it's pretty solid if you play in 1080p 3D. I do not feel the need to change this setup until the next generation of GPU. And if you plan to play in VR, it is a very good setup since many future VR titles will support VR SLI.

I have my cpu runnning 4.3 in manual turbo mode (asus bios) 100x43 Voltage 1.365 If i go 4.6 the voltage must be around 1.4-1.5 to get it stable, It sounds pretty high ? Or does it just come down to heat ? Been running years with this easy setup, mulitplier + volts I haven't had the interest to really look into overclocking

I didn't know you were OCing it. It sounds like you are doing it right! :) It would be great if you could add your setup to your signatire. It helps everyone troubleshoot. https://www.io-tech.fi/artikkelit/intel-core-i7-7700k-core-i5-7600k-kaby-lake/ Sandy bridge is still pretty strong, though obviously they are being GPU bottlenecked in their benchmarks.

I had occasional unusual stuttering in Dark Souls 3 with my 980 Ti SLI setup (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/940407/3d-vision/where-are-the-gtx-1080-3d-vision-reviews-what-about-cpu-bottlenecking-for-high-fps-/post/4898076/#4898076). I replaced this SLI setup with single Pascal Titan X, which eliminated this behavior and improved fps performance.

980Tis x2 @ 1.5 Ghz work perfectly fine even in 3D Surround. 5760x1080. Don't expect to have constant 60 FPS though, but at least 45 FPS on most games. On some you will get those 60 FPS on others not. For a single 1080p You should have zero problems! (You'll still need to read around to see what SLI flags works better than others, but it shouldn't be a huge deal). Until 1080Ti are released, I don't recommend buying any of the 1070/1080 as you'get nothing extra... PS: My 4790K is clocked to 5Ghz, so maybe that one helps as well - at least in 3D Surround... Don't really know:-s Can't remember the tests I made...

I wouldn't touch SLI again with a barge pole. Get a 1080 if I were you. Just my opinion.

For what it's worth, SLi 1080 is cheaper than a titan, and 1.25x the performance. Most 3D Vision games also scale fantastically well with SLI. The purchase choice is clear. 980ti is almost the same performance. The down side is that they lose their value a little quicker, and the ti would be better for VR as no real VR support for SLI yet.
