Please help me get one of my rigs into the 3d vision!
Dear reader I am hopeless. I have seen what 3d vision can do but neither of my systems seems to use it well. I have: Acer z650 Predator 3D beamer 7 Acer Shutter glasses (for party session bought of 3D Bluray cinema at home) The following pcs and laptops I tried: 1. Workstation - Fujitsu celsius M740 with Quadro M4000 (it works a bit but not really well like I imagined. Support said it is not supposed to support 3d Vision). 2. Game rig - Gigabyte Radeon R9 200 series: I cannot et TriDef software working, download is defunct now there. Don't know whether this card allows to watch a bluray movie in 3D at all. 3. Laptop y70-70 Touch with Nvidia GTX 960M. Does this work and use full 3d vision 1 technology for watching bluray movie? 4. Yoga 500 which is I guess too weak for bluray 3d movies. ______________________________________________________________________________ What is the cheapest upgrade option here to get a bluray movie working with the Z650 3D beamer? Best regards to the community and anyone knowing what to do here!

There is no Cheap way but the cheapest and easiest would be to buy a 3d Blu ray Player and connect it to a 5.1 REciever with 3D support via HDMI, you would get sound through the Reciever and picture through the Projector.. You would also need a 5.1 Speaker system.. IF you really want to do it with a PC you would need a nVidia 970GTX or better, a Bluray drive for the PC and a Software Player capable of 3D Blu Ray.. By the way that is a Nice Projector would like to know if it can use 3D Vision with a EDID hack to work in 3D..

Thanks so much! So a GPU like nVidia GTX 770 is not enough for this purpose?

" if it can use 3D Vision with a EDID hack to work in 3D.." You mean by moddin / changing the INF file?

A 770 should work I would look around tho.. I have not tested it with a 770GTX..

yes by changing the INF file.. I did get a Optoma newer model to work using an older INF file was curious if it would work with this projector as well.. just a curiosity.. If I was going to spend over one grand I would get those 4K Projectors that can do 1920 x 1080 @ 120hz in 3D …. Do you have a 770GTX??

OK I was looking at the specs for Power DVD and it seems a nVidia 9500GT was minimum, you should be fine with a 770GTX.. You may also need a Blu Ray ROM drive for the PC and Power DVD but that worked with nVidia 3D Vision.. not sure about using those Acer DLP Glasses.. With a PC it is really hard to get a working 3D fix.. so many combos and such.. I would if you want to use the PC try a Demo of Power DVD or similar before Purchasing to Test it out first to see if it works.. I may go this route too since I am going to be moving and loosing my Home Theater..

Well I was just looking at Stereoscopic Player and it has an option for Quad Buffered not sure what glasses you would need to use but this might work on your Workstation #1 Computer?? Also the Laptop just because it has a nVidia card does nopt mean it supports 3D.. IT could work if it has a HDMI Plug and the nVidia card goes through it.. Some user was real knowledgable but maybe do a search for Laptops and 3D vision maybe you will come aross what was said about how it might work.. I forget..

What i don't understand is: a GTX 760M worked with 3d vision live but the GTX 960M is not under the required GPUs listed. Did they just forget it or is it just not working when i use the beamer with this Laptop for 3d blurays?

Please see this thread galahad9. And when you succeed with the EDID keep in mind:
Also worth knowing that Nvidia specifically locks out laptops from 3D Vision. No new laptops are certified for 3D Vision, and for some reason they don't allow 3D Vision to show on the internal monitor. If you connect an external monitor, you can see the 3D Vision control panel show up. But if internal is set as primary it won't work.
When you connect the pyramid or emitter you might succeed with your projector. The only combination that might work seems to by the one with the GTX. I haven't seen anyone claim the quadro being capable of 3d Vision. But for serious gaming I don't believe the quadro is the right choice anyway. The Radeon is out of the question for nVidia software. Are you doing this solely for movies or gaming? Are you familiar with the pyramid?
What is the cheapest upgrade option here to get a bluray movie working with the Z650 3D beamer?
Cheapest option just for movies? Check https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/926968/3d-vision/what-is-the-best-3d-video-player-and-how-to-use-it-/2/ . You do not need 3D Vision/3D TV Play for movies. Best free options imo: sview (no BD-Menu support, but there are no real menu options/extras on 3D BluRays anyway, simply follow this) or kodi. Another thing would be playing games in 3D. So KoelerMeester's last 2 questions are quite important. Generally ... any GPU since those being listed there should be working with 3D Vision / 3D TV Play. If it's a Power DVD or Beamer requirement ... it's quite unimportant, the Software shouldn't mind the hardware as long as nVidia does support it and 3D Vision/TV Play is supported. For Laptops - as KoelerMeester did point out: Internal displays are just supported if it's an old one including a 3D vision emitter/capable display. I think the latest ones have been with 600 Series? At least not 900. So yeah, external display. Again - only needed when playing games using 3D Vision / TV Play. The good thing: Quadro allow Quad Buffer Open GL with 3rd Party Software (Geforce cards are limited to 3D Vision). EDIT: Forgot - actually the Quadro (sview - HW Quad Buffer) or the Radeon R9 (AMD HDMI 3D with kodi) might be the best options. The 960M would not allow Full HD @ 3D (just SBS, Checkerboard etc. Real Full HD only with 3D TV Play limited to 1080p24Hz - except your beamer is capable of 120Hz?), may only if you find an export option in sview/stereoskopic player that your TV supports. Just discovered http://bino3d.org/. Not the friendliest GUI, but nice options. EDIT2: The Yoga has Up to NVIDIA® GeForce® 940M 2G GFX. In that case 3D Vision/TV Play or SBS/CB/etc. only. If it has a Intel GPU (like HD Graphics 620), it may also work. Dunno what might be possible, some links: https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/intel-media-sdk/topic/311883 https://3dvision-blog.com/7845-what-is-needed-for-blu-ray-3d-playback-with-intel-integrated-graphics/ https://www.sidefx.com/Support/system-requirements/supported-graphics-cards/ (not directly 3D but makes use of Quad Buffer)

For your 960M, look at the 4th pic down in this tutorial, if none of your external video connection are connected to the Nvidia Discrete GPU, 3D Vision no worky, thanks the manufacturer's implementaion of Nvidia's Optimus technology. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/571045/
