Note due to incorrect tech specs on both ACER and Alienware site you may be confused that this is NOt the same panel made by the same OEM

both screens are 2MS G2G in 2d 60hz but 3ms at 120HZ in 3d. Acer and dell spec this different as it's not a LEGAL requirement.

both screens are 80k:1 contrast.

Image brightness reads as 400 on AW but only 300 on Acer due to dell upping the standard brightness and the difference in panel size is frankly different cases.

both units also have DVI and HDMI inputs in exact same position. also offer Audio out in exact same spot. which is a huge giveway it's the same screen.

I also tested both in BC2 which is a killer 3d titles and the only issue BOTH had was sniper scopes in 3d in Bc2 with some slight ghosting which is probably game-code related more than the monitors. because the stand heights differ you can;t mix and match perfectly so you hve to buy either 3x acer or aw both are great screens.
None of what you posted answers the response you quoted, you still can't reconcile the fact the Acer's panel is larger than the Alienware by .6" which is accurate, resulting in a significant difference in dot pitch. The AW2310 is .265mm and the Acer is .2715mm dot pitch. This shouldn't be difficult to understand, if you have 1920 horizontal and 1080 vertical pixels on a 24" panel and the same number of pixels on a 23" panel, it simply can't be the same panel as you've claimed.

I got the Acer GD245HQbd
As a monitor alone it leaves my previous Dell monitor and even my 2 and 1/2 year old LG plasma for dead picture quality wise.
As for 3D, only just set it up, still sorting it out.

I didn't know one could use the IZ driver with Nvidia 3D glasses, are they better than Nvidia's Sterero scopic drivers for Windows 7 64bit?

I've been told opposite elsewhere.

Only game I have tried is MS flight sim, although I can see the two images converged okay, brief look I couldn't really see much 3D effect, but as I said only tried it breifly.

Cheers
I have also used side by side and with testing they showed as same panel, if you think they are different as in the actual panel you must be on drugs! come on the osd is even the same. they are made in the same place FFS.

The only difference is the Acer has Dsub and the AW audio in and out not just out and Aw has a USb port.

perhaps the USB port affects the display?

erm, nooo.

This is a typical show and tell of people who did not look round the OSD and see what the settings where. Do you think there are two factories both making 1080p 120HZ panels in LCD at the same time. AW charge more especially in the Eu as they are a more "premuim" brand than Acer.

Its like saying a Zotac 480 is different to a EVGA 480, the silcon was made in the same place all that chnages is the box warrenty (sometimes testing of unit before sale) and stickers on the UNIT.
You can scream they are the same panel all you want. You can throw all the rational for why you THINK they are the same, such as how close the specs are or that all the plugs are in the same spot, but you are just grabbing at straws. They don’t perform the same and that is all anyone needs to know to be sure they are not the same panel.
And people saying they have less ghosting issue on the AW are basically syaing yes I paid more but it must be better.
Funny that the general consensus is the Acer ghosts less not the AW … read the many many reviews people have done of the two anywhere on these forums and that is the conclusion they all draw. Acer = less 3d ghosting but slightly worse in 2d AW = better in 2d with a little more 3d ghosting

If you remove the overdrive function in the acer it works excellent in 2D
The overdrive cause less ghosting.

Maybe they are the same, except that alienware don't have the function...

Alienware does have overdrive and it is on by default. Alienware ghosts more than the Acer regardless of what setting combinations you try. Best way to lessen the Alienware’s ghosting is to lower the contrast which requires you to turn dynamic contrast off to adjust. However, it still ghosts more than the Acer.

Issue both for 5 days side by side in BC2 as both 2d and 3d, BC2 is pretty much the best 3d game there is right now and I play BC2 alot i saw NO difference in either screen both have a slight issue with sniper scopes and that's it and that's not a tech issue it's a code issue.

Both outperformed a samsung 3d tv doing fake 3d as well (which ghosted like a bitch). BTw I sent the samsung back as well the same model just about every AV forum says is the best tv ever made and my view is try again samung if you want to replace my 2d 1080p DLP screen. it's nice but not worth £3k. the amount of menu crap you have to trun off on the samsung to get ot PC game well was annoying.

The only difference in the cuurent second gen TN 3d panels for PC is the PCB for connections. And the connections being in the same spot like 1600p screens is a HUGE LARGE giveaway they are from the same plant. In 2d 24hz 60hz and 120hz both were as good as you can get and in 3d better than the gen1 1050p models. The only real major difference is the design and the price as both the dell and acer have same warrenty in most places.

The exact same can be said of many DLP projectors where the only diff is the PCb and many use the same DLP unit. (although not all and there is some choice there).

By the way all the "new" 3d LED Tv's only come from 2 plants.

As for ghosting all LED and TN panels ghost to me as I'm used to 0.02ms on DLP, I sit and bitch about professional broadcast kit that cost 10-20x more than any home model. So I could see no major difference on AW vs Acer both were great TN panels in 2d or 3d. yes 27" LED N3d panels appear to be coming soon and they should be even better. but if you bother to splash out £300-400 for a AW or Acer you can enjoy media-tv and game 3d right now and the monitor won't be pointless in 6 months.

You can throw all the rational for why you THINK they are the same, such as how close the specs are or that all the plugs are in the same spot, but you are just grabbing at straws. They don’t perform the same and that is all anyone needs to know to be sure they are not the same panel.

Funny that the general consensus is the Acer ghosts less not the AW … read the many many reviews people have done of the two anywhere on these forums and that is the conclusion they all draw. Acer = less 3d ghosting but slightly worse in 2d AW = better in 2d with a little more 3d ghosting
