Optoma HD66 + NVIDIA 3D Vision
I own an Optoma HD66 NVIDIA 3D Vision Ready projector, and an HTPC at home. I am looking to hook the HTPC up to the project for play back of 3D Movies. All I need is an NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit, and an NVIDIA 3D Graphics Card correct? Nothing fancy in between its just the PC to the projector for watching digital 3D files. Ive been researching for weeks and get different answers all the time about having to have HDMI 1.4 cables and certain firmware. I just need to know if this is all I need, and I will buy it.

Hdmi cables, it depends. If you are playing files from your hard drive, you can use a VGA connection. If you are playing Blu-rays, then yes you need HDMI cables so that you are HDCP compliant. That is unless you are using a HDCP stripper such as AnyDVDHD. VGA also works fine for Netflix. If you get HDMI cables get "high Speed", you might also want them to have ARC and ethernet capabilities, so that you could use them for a future display that has those features. If you are just going to use it for movies, I'd recommend purchasing an Optoma 3D-XL, it's a format converter. It's been selling on Amazon for $199 lately and includes DLP Link glasses for one person. With the 3D-XL, you could use a PS3 or standalone 3D Blu-ray player. Your projector only supports a frame sequential format. With the 3D-XL, you get Top/bottom, Side by Side and framepacked support. If you are not going to play games and get a 3D-XL, you will not need anything else except playback software from Corel, Arcsoft or Cyberlink. No 3D-XL, then you need to buy the Nvidia kit to activate the frame sequential mode along with the software mentioned above.

You do not necessarily need new high speed cables. Using 1280x720@120Hz playback, an old one will work provided they were quality ones. Of course with a projector with anything over 6ft, an old cable will likely not work. If you use over 15ft, it's usually suggested to use a signal booster. If you get the 3D-XL, it acts as a booster I think. It also comes with a 6ft HDMI cable, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the info. Im not super picky with this, I am just looking for something for to use with my HTPC connected to the Projector so when I decide to watch 3D Digital Files Ive got, I can watch them no problem with ease. I looked into the 3D-XL but I dont really think its for me. This HTPC is ALWAYS going to be connected to the project for random 3D movie use, when need be, other than that its just going to be used like normal on the project for 2D video etc. I have all of my movies/tv shows etc in XBMC and that is my media source. I ordered the NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 Kit today at a store here, and it will be in this week, but when it is in, I need to get a 3D capable video card as well. Im looking at the GeForce GTX 650. Like I said there will not be any games played, this is just for watching movies here or there once a month or so, so im not looking to spend a lot of money for something that wont be used a whole lot. So im hoping with the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit and the GeForce GTX 650 video card, I can set this up, hook it to my projector and watch a 3D movie without it being difficult This should be that straight forward right?

Since you were going to just play files from the hard drive, you could have just purchased DLP Link glasses and used stereograpc player http://www.3dtv.at/Products/Player/Index_en.aspx Be careful wqith the new playback software, I know TMT 6 has Cinavia. So it might not necessarily be straight forward http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinavia Since you are getting the glasses and emitter, you really should browse the forums here and try a game in 3D. If your not much of a gamer, you might give Dear Esther a go. http://store.steampowered.com/app/203810/
