New DLP 3D support? Samsung & Mitsubishi Stereo3D support???
I found out how to display checkerboard pattern with Nvidia drivers - I need to test this first since I do not own a Samsung 3D DLP (yet) - If tests work fine I will post it here.

Post at MTBS too - that's interesting.

I sampled the Mitsubishi HDTV in Montreal last month, and it helps if you are in a darker room to cut down the flicker with the glasses. I saw the Samsung in a bright room the first time, and that in itself hampered the 3D effect for me. It's so important to show these technologies in the environment they were designed for.

The resolution definitely gets halved in S-3D mode, but like other 3D solutions, the 3D aspect makes up for the difference and your brain shouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I only saw movies though. I didn't see enough to comment on game play.

Ok tested and it works!

Well, Nvidia had such a support implemented long ago but did not publish it by now. Now you are able to play all games in stereo without need of third party drivers - even StereoPhotoMaker is able to display photos on such a 3D DLP TV.

Here is how it works:
- dowload this registry patch: http://www.3d-hdv.net/forum/3D_DLP.zip unzip and place it on your desktop (or anywhere else)
- activate your stereodriver in control panel using either vertical or horizontal interleave (Seereal or VREX)
- apply registry patch
- enjoy your game/phots/videos using Nvidia stereodriver
- each time you open Nvidia control panel the interleaving settings will be restored to their defaults: horizontal or vertical - apply registry patch again to switch to checkerboard output

Note for StereoPhotoMaker: you need to setup pagflipping to the native resolution of your 3D DLP TV (set custom resolution to 1280x720 or 1920x1080) and activate Nvidia output

Ok - I got it up in the downloads section. I'll make a news story out of it as well.

Thanks for the contribution!

EDIT: Created the news story and started a user thread too for people to post their results, bugs, etc.

Has anyone confirmed that this new Nvidia 3d driver works just as well as say having the Tridef experience software?

IE: the tridef experience software doesnt allow ANY game to be 3d, only some that have their driver if you pay $5...

Does this nvidia driver also work with movies (as well as the tridef stuff?)

Anyone used this on a samsung 3d set? I have the 6187 HLT series...

If this is all true.. i guess for $149 you get two sets of glasses, then download the driver and all is set..

Thanks in advance..

Dear Folks,

Since starting this thread, I have been busy adding 3D DLP TV support
to all of my 3D software, and creating the Medtron.org website
to provide the 3D viewers and 3D video production tools to the public.

Any updates on this.. anyone using the 3d drivers from nvidia with the 3d goggles that work on the samsung DLP LED sets?

Curious how this is working and if its worth getting (IE: flight simulator X).. or if i should just get a set for my lcd rather than my tv?

For flightsims 3D stereo? Best for this are DLP projectors. Better than one are two....
Video on youtube is 2D, the system works too in stereo (85 Hz, 2048x768) with shutterglasses.... :-)

Yeah, well, a good DLP projector will run you several times the cost of a DLP rear-projection, and then add the hundreds of dollars you'll spend on light bulbs every couple of months.

A DLP TV will work just fine at 1920x1080, which is more and more a resolution offered from the in-game menus, rather than try to finangle a hack for 2048x768. Also, DLP TVs tend to be quite bright, and with a projector you pretty much have to be in a basement or some darkened place, otherwise the screen is too dim. Projectors are just not suitable for normal living room TV watching, and with a TV you can do both TV, Movies, gaming, and 3D gaming.

I have no ghosting or otherwise detrimental effects from my 61" Samsung DLP, and it only cost me ~$1,100. The only problem is the inefficient DDD drivers resulting in FPS loss, but hopefully that'll improve with better software.

Don't get me wrong, if you have a few G's burning a hole in your pocket, by all means go an buy some DLP projectors and a quad-SLI GTX280 setup, it probably will be the best solution for big-screen 3-D gaming. If you're not made of money, on the other hand, a DLP TV will do just fine for this and other enteraining needs, without needing to take out a second mortgage.

It sounds like you have a similar DLP that i have.. what video card do you run on your pc.. i have dual ati 4870's, independent (or will have when they get here in a day or two :)

Did you have any issues with the driver.. do you just install the driver and everything works by toggling a setting.. or do you have to use special dvd players to see dvds (and bluray) in 3d? I use powerdvd right now..

Have you tried it with any games.. ie: FSX? You mentioned fps dropping, is it bad.. some have said 3d software definitely slows it down, i'm guessing if you just toggle the 3d setting to off, things are fine..

Hopefully this will work under vista x64 which is what i have..

I ordered the $149 kit with 2 glasses and tridef software.. i guess i have to buy a $5 addon for FSX, as they dont have generic drivers for all games yet..

Cheers

I have a single nvidia GTX260. I'm not sure what you mean by "independent," but two 4870s in crossfire mode should be nice.

Everything worked right out of the box. To play a game you actually have to open DDD's special "launcher" program, and it launches the game you specify from there. You never have to mess with the display drivers, other than to make sure you're no rescaling the desktop and that you're using the RGB color profile.

I actually use the Windows Media Center built-in DVD player to watch DVDs, since I'm running Vista home premium x64. If you want to view DVDs in 3D, however, You'll need DDD's special player. I tried it a couple of times, but I wasn't impressed. I'd rather watch DVDs in normal 2D. As far a blu-ray, I don't know the answer, but i believe DDD's software will not play it. I don't have a blu-ray drive and probably won't get one until blu-ray disks come down in price to more reasonale levels, specially since regular DVDs are already upconverted by the PC and look great.

I've tried it with Bioshock, Madden 08, and Need For Speed Pro Street. There is a substantial FPS drop with all games (mind you I'm playing at 1920x1080). Madden is the most playable, since there isn't much movement, and the graphics are somewhat dated and simple. You almost can't notice the fps drop there. Bioshock is just barely playable, and NFS is awfully choppy to the point that it's unplayable.

I haven't made any FRAPS measurements or anything like that, but my subjective observations are that Bioshock must be in the 20-30 FPS range, and NFS would have to be <10. You might have better luck with your two Radeon 4870 in crossfire due to the raw throughput increase, but you'll still notice a substantial slowdown.

Another disadvantage is that the DDD drivers are for DX9.0c only, so you can forget about implementing advanced DX10 textures, effects, optimizations, etc.

I should also mention that these games play silky smooth at solid 60+ FPS when using their native DX10 drivers (not 3D).

That is correct, and if you want to view DVDs and Pictures you'll need their video player. IMO it's not worth it, though. If and when they start releasing actual 3D movies in blu-ray, then i'd start looking at what i need, but what they do with their software is not worth the additional $50.

I finally got around to getting this rolling..

Since i'm on the ati 4870.. i found that i couldnt use the ati provided dvi to hdmi dongle (which allows sound to pass).. i had to go with the dvi to hdmi straight cable, then i could get the 3d button to work on the remote..

However, despite seeing the glasses turn on, the images even on the test image or using the 3d launcher tool for Flight Simulator X were woeful, they didnt look 3d at all.. though without the glasses you could see the slightly split image.. the background being the foreground image often even looked blocky..

I'm not sure if i'm missing a setting somewhere or this ati/dvi to hdmi setup just wont work (even though its detected by the tv), but this is looking like it was a waste of $ so far..

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?

is it possible to take an outside video source like the out put of a 360 and apply the checker pattern to it in the same rate its applied on a dvd being played thru the tridef software. then send it to my mitsubishi wd73735. would it work in theory, im willing to build a board with fast cpu and video cards if a software can achieve this.
