RE5 - No convergence...

Well..

Resident Evil 5 (not the demo) looks amazing in S3D, but convergence is locked like the demo... have no idea whats the idea behind locking convergence...

maybe it's because it's auto convergence? idk

I'm hoping they don't pull that crap in the full version.

Damn it, was hoping they unlocked it all so the pop out was effective in the final retail release. This is proper disapointing.
Yep, it's the full version, just seen it doing the rounds for download, got mine pre ordered and with the none pop out im considering cancelling now :(

They also disabled the popout in street fighter 4. Go play the benchmark version - adjust the convergence all you want, but it's not an option in the final game. Hugely disappointing, since it was a good showcase for popout. Also, you can see a weird 3d depth "bar" or artifact in the game, especially noticeable if you use ryu and win a match. You can literally see the divide between where separation ends and screen depth begins. It's almost like a mip-mapping line or something.

Capcom just doesn't want you to go crosseyed, apparently

What? Thats hugely disappointing. It should be _the_ game to exprience S3D with and now this.... Why even do that in the first place? I hope a patch is being made, to change this.

I`ve waited two hours after reading this news and tried to calm down – but perhaps You will recognize that I’m still very upset…
Let us see what happened:
A report about RES’s support for 3DV was to me the first information about 3DV and the reason why I’ve bought this system. Until now I’ve never regretted this.
I’ve tested a lot of games that are not 3D ready and always tried to find way to solve problems. One of the most important methods was to adjust the convergence settings.
I’ve never complained about the fact that Nvidia cooperates with only a few game developers. And whenever someone complained about this Nvidia mentioned RES to be the best example for effective cooperation with game developers. „Great pop out effects“, etc. So we all had high hopes.
Then the benchmark test for RES was released – and many of us were extremely disappointed. See http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtop...amp;hl=resident
And the reason was very obvious: the manual convergence settings were locked.
There had had been many complaints and questions about this fact. Especially concerning the final version.
The reaction of Nvidia to this feedback? Nothing!

So obviously the characteristics of a “3D ready game” developed in cooperation with Nvidia are the followings:
- Less possibilities to adjust the 3D settings to personal needs than in not supported games. Obviously the developers know better than we stupid users what the „correct“ 3D settings are. And the correct settings (see the official screenshots!) are obviously „as flat as possible“ - so that really everybody who uses 3DV for the first time won’t be overstrained.
- No consideration of the feedback from the 3DV community the 3D feature is designed for. Even no reaction or explanation (until now).

So, Nvidia, please do not cooperate with game developers if the result are „3D ready games“ like RES!
I definitely won’t buy RES if this problem (to me it is a fatal bug!) with the blocked convergence settings is not patched out!

PS: It’s even getting worse:
The convergence settings not only are locked – IMHO they even are locked to a bad value.
Usually the convergence should be adapted in a way that the focus is set to the main character or main view distance. You can check this by taking off the shutter glasses: the focus is where the stereoscopic pictures are not doubled. So the main character or the most interesting parts of the scenery should not be doubled. By this way You can also prevent ghosting effects around the spots You look at most of the time. (There are exceptions when low depth settings are necessary and only high convergence settings can generate depth effects (Fuel, Pure, Venetica,…)).
If look at the benchmark scenes and the screenshots You can see that everything on the screen is doubled!
So these locked convergence settings generate a lot of unnecessary and disturbing ghosting effects!
Originally I expected that playing RES with 3DV would provide better kinds of “horror effects” than awfull ghosting ;)

To the original poster, does the game have effective pop-out even with the locked convergence? I suspect that the reason for the locked convergence is so that the game will look correct even during the cutscenes. If there is still effective pop-out even with the locked convergence then I don't know that there is anything to be all that upset over.

Why should I play hours with unnecessary ghosting effects and flat 3D impression only to be able to see some minutes of cut scenes with the right convergence settings? It would be much better to implement hotkeys for fast switching between convergence presets.
Or at least they should leave it to our hands what settings we want to use!!! If someone doesn’t want to change the convergence settings he should leave the hotkeys deactivated and play with the preset profile.
3D perception is a matter of personal factors. And there are many experienced users that have their own taste and wants concerning S3D. And I don`t like that developers impose their own will on me!
That is the general reason why I'm so upset:
The Nvidia drivers offer less possitbilities to adjust the S3D settings and perception than e.g. the drivers for iZ3D.
If future cooperation with developers and publishing "3D ready games" means that even these few possibilities are cut down it would be a fatal trend.
So it seems important to me to show that we do not agree with this development!

For a full '3D Ready' game both aspects are needed, in-depth and convergence. If only 1 of the two is present then the consumer is being mislead as they are only getting half the effect of 3D. When one thinks of 3D the main focal point one leads to is the amazing (convergence) pop out effect. It's that main aspect that gives us the wow moments, hence most films these days ie.. My Bloody Valentine, The Final Destination (just to name two). Every advert on TV (especially MBV) showed the cinema audience with their glasses on and things like axes and fire shooting out of the screen.

So again, if there is only 1 aspect of the 3D present then it isn't full 3D.

They locked out convergence ????!!! LOL !! You've got to be kidding.

That's just as bad as shipping the game when it's not complete.

Guess I won't be buying this one ! I was ready to get two copies.

Now.. haha.. screw that !

Ps. Yes this makes me really mad too. And kinda sad. Like.. why ????

Wait, so there's no popout? None at all? Even when Capcom/Nvidia told us there would be? Even when all those game journalists previewing the game said there was popout effects galore?

So is "popout" just some marketing spin word now to just represent 3D effects in general? Is Nvidia intentionally keeping convergence low so newcomers don't complain about their eyes (it does feel funky when you're not used to popout effects), at the expense of a good experience for people whom are used to it? Please do not tell me this is the case because I will quickly sell these glasses and start anti-recommending this to people if this is going to be Nvidia's ongoing idea of the perfect 3D experience.

Well, anyway... I think the game looks great in 3d. It is nice to see a game redone with 3d in mind. It isn't perfect, but it still looks amazing. I can understand the desire to lock convergence to preserve whatever artistic vision they might have been going for, even if I don't agree with that particular action. It isn't like it is the end of the world though, and it certainly doesn't ruin the experience. You'd think that the game killed your dogs by the reactions here.:lol:
