Master List of A/V Receivers capable of 720p/120Hz necessary for 3D Vision. Know of any?
1 / 2
A lot of us own 3D Vision capable projectors (such as the Acer H5360) which are naturally part of a home theater. This means having an A/V Receiver capable of handling a 720p/120Hz signal from the PC and delivering it to the projector is essential (sadly most receivers do not). I have purchased two "3D Capable" receivers (the Sony STR-DN1010 and the Yamaha HTR-5063, which is pretty much the same as the RX-V567) only to find out that they did not pass the 120Hz signal. A 3D capable receiver only guarantees that it can handle HDMI 1.4 standard 60Hz 3D streams (frame packing, side-by-side, top-and-bottom), and not the 120Hz sequential format of 3D Vision.
Lets have people contribute which receivers do and do not work for them, and I can try and maintain a list in this original post. I'll do my best to find some that supposedly work by doing web searching. Hopefully as this begins to get populated with receivers that work, we can have this become a sticky thread.

Funny you should start a thread on this, its exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for, even posted a question about the Sony 1010 a few days ago.
When you say the Onkyo's are confirmed to work, where have you got this information from? I'd heard the 308 might work, just want to get definite confirmation before I buy it!

It's just from looking on these and other forums and finding what others have said to work. Right now I'm just taking them at their word.

Fair enough, I was thinking the same. I'm looking at getting the 308 although it looks to be discontinued now and replaced by the 309 - I've mailed Onkyo support to see if I can get confirmation they're the same.

Success! After a very long time looking for a compatible receiver, I would like to confirm that the Onkyo TX-SR309 does in fact work with Nvidia 3d vision using the workaround described here:
Also of note was that the acer 5360 inf hack floating around worked for 3d vision but disabled audio. Using MonInfo though, I now have 3D vision and 5.1 sound over a single HDMI through the receiver to the projector.

Awesome, this is exactly what I've been struggling for quite some time now... I've also gone through one "3D ready" receiver and of course it didn't work.
A couple more that won't work:
Yamaha RX-V1065 (Should work according to Yamaha specs, but it doesn't)
Yamaha RX-V567
Also, Denon technical support said none of their receivers work, but I don't think too highly of tech supports there days... I think Onkyo also said something like that, but clearly they are wrong...
Could anyone test some of the most recent models?
I think I'm going to get a HDMI switch and ditch the whole idea of using my amp as a switch, however I'm still faced with the problem. Which switches support 120Hz vertical range :o ?

Thanks for the updates guys. I have updated the master list. It seems like Onkyo is the only reliable receiver manufacturer that supports the 120Hz signals of 3D Vision. Kudos to them.

I just bought the Onkyo TX-NR509 (it's just $219 on Amazon), so we'll see how that goes. I'll report back.

Sorry it took so long to report. I bought the receiver and took over a month to even set it up, and then it ended up being defective. So I was able to get a replacement yesterday and I'm happy to report that it does indeed pass through 120 Hz signals just fine, including 3D Vision.

Having gone through the ringer with Yamaha support regarding lack of 120Hz on ANY of their receivers I find myself here on this thread.
I have a RX-V667, Optoma HD66 and a HTPC with a GT430 and am stuck in the same boat trying to get HDMI switching, 3D and DTS-Master, True Dolby sound.
Just a question regarding the 3D-XL or similar 3D devices (i.e. View Sonic 3D - which is <$300), would it not be cheaper and easier just to purchase these and have them fit in after the Receiver (i.e. HTPC -> Receiver -> 3D-XL ->120Hz Projector) in terms of overall cost when taking into account 4 or more glasses and the purchase of a new amp?
I'm weighing up my options here whether to sell on my 667 and buy an Onkyo, or to sell my NVDIA 3D glasses and buy an Optoma 3D-XL and some DLP glasses.

I also found this page, that would suggest TX-NR609 works also with the same EDID steps :)
