Several older 3D Vision games may soon be unplayable?
I saw this on Engadget.... about Gamespy "On May 31st, the company is shutting down its servers for good, and as a result, a bunch of games are losing their online capabilities. For console games, that largely amounts to multiplayer. For certain PC titles though, that also includes authentication servers for CD keys -- losing those means losing access to the game itself. http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/04/gamespy-shutting-down-servers/#continued I actually see several games in my backlog that are listed on the Gamespy list. Hopefully the authentication servers for CD keys are via the publishers and not Gamespy. http://www.poweredbygamespy.com/projects/2010-titles/

I think I just bought my last game for the backlog, no matter how good the sale. Seems pretty dumb to buy stuff that the publishers may or may not honor.

I was looking for mods for a game and came across an article stating that GFWL (Games for Windows Live) would be shutting down by July 1, 2014. Qoute... "A since-deleted support article for Age of Empires Online stated that the GFWL service would be discontinued on July 1, 2014. Although Microsoft has not yet made an official announcement on the matter, a number of developers took this to mean that their games would effectively become unplayable in July and began work to divorce them from GFWLs, often switching over to Steamworks." http://www.joystiq.com/2014/01/17/games-for-windows-live-is-dying-we-check-the-life-support-of-ga/ They list games showing where GFWL has been removed or GFWL will be removed, in the article. Unfortunately, a few good games are in limbo. So if GFWL is indeed shutting down next month, you may want to look at the list and knock out a few of the games that may become unsupported.

So since Fable 3 was in my backlog of games to play and I read that it worked exceptionally well with 3D Vision I decided to play it before the GFWL deadline next month. Turns out that this game will no longer be for sale, so I'm glad I previously purchased it and played it. If you have purchased it on Steam, it can still be activated. Here's the official announcement from Lionhead Studios. http://forum.lionhead.com/yaf_postst2313_Fable-III-Steam-GFWL-Availability.aspx I never liked GFWL, and even less so..now. After playing Fable 3, I wish I would of had the chance to gift it to a few family members that I've gotten hooked on stereoscopic gaming. Oh well, thanks to the community modders, there are more games available now than ever.

BTW, those of you with an Xbox one. PC drivers for it's controller were made available for download yesterday. For now they are only available at http://majornelson.com/2014/06/05/pc-drivers-for-the-xbox-one-controller-available-now/

I might pick up a controller, but only once the wireless drivers are out.

Section 8 Steam Key: ZT5EW-F3YQT-GL8CG Definitely interested in an Xbox One controller(if they make a wireless receiver for it) ... although I'm even more interested in the Steam one ... if it ever comes out.

Looks like there will be no problems playing games with GFWL in the foreseeable future, despite rumors/asumptions it was ending July 1st. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/06/19/games-for-windows-live-exodus-continues.aspx http://www.polygon.com/2014/3/21/5534188/microsoft-renewed-focus-on-windows-pc-gaming-phil-spencer

<cough> Microsoft renews focus. <cough> http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=100400267&postcount=6 My metric for whether it ever becomes something other than marketing lies, is if they release Halo 3 on PC. That would demonstrate an actual commitment to PC, not just the usual VP mumbles.

Microsoft have already given PC gamers the best possible present we could get from them: the death of GFWL. But in all seriousness, Microsoft would be foolish to not increase their interest in Pc gaming at least a little bit.The mainstream PC user is a dying race, and even Microsoft's business user base is beginning to be eroded by Google Apps etc. And Xbone seems to have already cemented a runner-up position in the latest console race. PC gamers might be arguably the only genuinely healthy sector of Microsoft's user base, and even Microsoft must see that continuing to ignore them would be foolish. Especially with Valve making [as yet empty] threats about shifting the PC gaming landscape over to Linux.
