3d vision broken with Biostar A760GM2+ motherboard
Hello, just an fyi for anyone with flickering problems
I was really looking forward to using 3d Vision and had a 4 day fight trying to figure out how to get it working with my set up and maybe my adventure can help someone else. The short story is that the Biostar A760GM2+ motherboard's USB driver does not work with the 3d vision emitter.
The long story:
I have a BenQ MP772ST. My computer is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 with 2GB of ram and a GT220 graphics card.
I read through the forums and found several threads about people getting unsupported projectors working on older 3d vision drivers so I bought a 3d vision kit and tried to get it up and running. I pulled down the 1.15 drivers and around the web and that allowed me to get through the driver install but I had horrible flickering.
The flicker was clearly due to the emitter/glasses being out of phase with the display because the glasses would pop into 3d and then over approximately 1 second drift out of sync and then I'd get a quick flicker in both eyes and it would be back in sync, about 1 time per second this happened...completely unusable.
I tried all the potential fixes suggested online:
* turned off all overclocking on my CPU
* not running through a USB hub
* I don't have multiple cards so no SLI, no E1C problems
* lights off at night, no outside light from anything,
* no other IR devices in the room.
* I tried a variety of drivers but couldn't go past 1.15 because the driver wouldn't recognize the display.
* different USB and VGA cables
Nothing worked, so the next thing I tried was replacing the 3d vision kit. I took the kit back and got a new one, and still had the same problem.
I really want 3D, so finally I broke down and bought a viewsonic PJD6381w, upgraded the drivers to the latest version 258.96 at the time and still had the same problem. ARGH! I just about lost it all then, and quite frankly probably should have, but I pressed on like a stubborn 3d envious foul.
I tried several other drivers, still the same problem.
I tried borrowing a friend's graphics card (a 9800GTX) and that didn't help.
I reset my bios, that didn't help.
Always the same 1 second flicker problem.
I finally concluded that it must be that the emitter isn't working properly with my USB port. I tried to find newer drivers for my USB controller on my Biostar motherboard but couldn't find any, so I bought a new motherboard and presto: glorious, magnificent, unbelievable, beautiful 3D.
So to anyone with a Biostar A760GM2+ motherboard you may be out of luck, or there was just something wrong with my particular board, either way, this may be useful to other so I thought I'd post.
