No, video is fixed.
All you can do is shift the entire view to make the entire picture closer or farther but you cannot change the amount of depth inside the picture.

Damn....3d movies will be a bit of a non event then really. The seperation used in Avatar for example was so small. Hopefully 'home' versions are made to cater for smaller screens.

me too but i really can't see it i'm afraid, the manual work involved in avatar was unreal so unless they figure out an automatic way to apply seperation that doesn't use any questionable algorithms then i can't see them re editing the whole movie. sorry

No way in hell ! keep that separation identical !
I'm seriously waiting for availability of affordable LED/Laser high power 1080p projectors to build myself a real passive polarized setup, I won't let anyone's preference for ridiculously tiny 22" displays ruin the movies ! /devil.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Well ok those won't be affordable before at least 2 years I know but that's still my objective !

That would be insane  ! Every filmmaker would need to shoot with 3 instead of 2 cameras only for a home version. I mean, matching even 2 cameras is hard work...
There will be no "home" version. Definitly. And that's really a problem of stereoscopy.

Or it could mean something else : in order to be able to produce a better home version, Film makers calibrate their 3D movies for smaller cinema screens, not these monstrous "football field size" theatres that are completely empty 90% of the time.
Back to the city centre cinemas ! No more of these multiplexes lost in the middle of nowhere in the countryside.
(alright that was enough of stupid nostalgia, back to the real world ? consumers will buy bigger and bigger screens to get beautiful 3D)

The difference in immersion between a small and a large size screen is less in 2d while 3d gains a lot from screensize. If best immersion in 3d is important then get a big screen. /sweat.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I thought 3d was pretty much perfect in Avatar. Almost "transparent". However you notice how spoiled you get when looking at a 2d screen again. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> The only "anomaly" i could think of in avatar was when filming a far away scene with a lot of aircrafts those were more or less rendered at screendepth. Since they're far away they should be experienced with more depth. Nonethless: I as many others is anxiously awaiting more 3d-media like avatar, how to train a dragon etc etc...

Is there somebody here on these forums that has movies that are converted from anaglyph to 3d field sequential?
I have looked into converting but I guess somebody has already done it :)
I havent come across decent 3d movies yet for field sequential.
I have Coraline. Bought it from a guy's website. S&H was insanely quick. No idea where he lives in the US, but I live in Germany and the package arrived within 4 business days. Hats off. Still, it wasn't really worth it. As one half of the experience comes from an attempt to isolate the information contained in the anaglyphic image, it's of significantly lower quality than the other half which is a straight rip of the 2d Blu-Ray. Your brain tries to combine the good image with the crappy one and it just doesn't work that well. It's incredibly straining on the eyes and looks odd.
The Avatar trailer here looks just as the movie did in theatres: kinda disappointing. I take the vibrant 2d version on my lovely 50 inch plasma over this darkened and still largely flat image anyday. It was the same with most other 3d movies I have seen so far: there is some nice depth to whatever is happening right behind the screen level, but then the image tends to flatten quickly. I was especially disappointed with the panorama shots: looked like 3d dudes acting in front of exquisite matte paintings. Kinda jarring actually (the 3 people that went into the movie with me all pretty much agreed too)
I love 3d in games, but movies have yet to convince me of the technology's benefits (I actually prefer the gimmicky approach of movies like The Final Destination. At least the implementation is fun in those. Throwing stuff at the audience in a horror movie makes perfect sense) I also think since the tech isn't quite there yet, 3d makes images that whould otherwise look absolutely realistic look more fake. That's not a problem with games since they all look fake anyway and will most likely continue to do so for a long time.

Doesn't seem to be as much depth as in the theater.
I agree with some here that even in the theater, the depth was kind of lackluster (except for a few panoramic scenes like inside the ship looking down the corridor, or the opening scene over the forest), but the depth was taken down even further for this trailer. I do hope this isn't an example of the final product we'll see on Blu-ray 3D. It really looks like a bunch of 2D cutouts, like in a converted 2D flick.
Although I do think I and others here might be a bit spoiled since we're used to cranking the depth up and really looking into our monitors. I can guarantee you that if I saw Avatar before owning 3D Vision, I would have near pissed myself, especially in the opening shot over the vast forest; it felt like the whole audience was hovering over the forest in a helicopter. I wish that shot was in the trailer to see if the effect translates to a smaller screen.

about cardboard 3D look: popout is in % so if something sticks halfway out of the monitor it will still stick halfway out if You move far away. So the further away You sit the less cardboard 3D effect there is.
and about 100% depth/inside monitor look: we can adjust/shift the 2 views to get 100% inside monitor look or 100% popout look. In Stereoscopic Player it is done with the arrows keys. This is offcause so that a video can be made to look good on all different size monitors/projector screens/TVs.
We can't adjust the distance between the cameras in videos offcause, only in games. I have a feeling some of You crank that s**t way up until Your eyes diverge outward XD

I use 100% depth at all times and I consider the experience gimped without said depth. If Nvidia didn't make you jump through hoops to get it past 100% I would do that as well because even at 100% I feel I should be able to see depth further in the distance; it's still not quite like real life's depth even at 100%. 100% doesn't make your eyes over-diverge at all (sitting at proper 2-3 ft distance from the 2233rz). Measure the distance between your pupils and then measure the largest distance between angles in 3D, it will never pass your eye separation when convergence is properly adjusted (this is probably why Nvidia restricts you to 100% because taking it slightly higher would start to make your eyes over-diverge). It might feel funky at first if you're not used to it but I feel like playing 3D any other way is cheap and underwhelming.
The first thing I do when I play a 3D game is crank up the depth and alter the convergence so all objects are correctly proportional to real life. It really adds an incredible amount of immersion versus the default 3D experience most games give. Even "3D Ready" games like Bad Company 2, Just Cause 2 and Arkham Assylum become so much better than they already are when you tweak the convergence and depth correctly.

After watching the Avatar trailer, i was not that impressed with it, so yesterday i decided to go out and buy Avatar on Blu-Ray, and i did not know that i came with a DVD version aswell, so the first thing i done was fired up Power Dvd 10, and used the 2d - 3d Conversion and i must say that this was much better quality 3d than the trailer, its just a shame that you can not use the 3d conversion on Blu-Ray discs, does anyone know if this is possible or it is a feature that will be added at a later time.

There is a small download button on the right side. Be aware of the commercials on the left.
This is now a 450MB WMV-file. 3840x824 Parallel Side by Side(1920x824 per eye) Left Image=Left eye.
I cropped the black bars so its 824 instead of 1080.
The Trailer was presented every night on AnixeHD. I recorded them and took the two best recordings with the highest average bitrate.
I layered them with AviSynth to reduce compression-artifacts and scaled them up to FullHD (with Spline64Resize ).
AnixeHD is streaming a really poor format: 1440x1080 25fps @ 8000kbit. That means 720x1080 per eye.
And you don't need to worry about german, I dubbed the english audio from the original *.mov trailer, so audio-quality should be better now too.
No, video is fixed.

Damn....3d movies will be a bit of a non event then really. The seperation used in Avatar for example was so small. Hopefully 'home' versions are made to cater for smaller screens.

EDIT: Reuploaded Part1 - There was a problem.
