Questions about Stereo3D on NV

Thanks Maggi, I'll be ordering my new 7800 gs sooner rather then later now. Great to have you back in the 3D community.

Have you had any luck with the 84.12 & 82.12 stereo beta combination?

I have a 6800GS, and with the exception of the missing shadows in Doom 3, they have been very reliable.

78.01 would be fine for me, but BF2 is a lot better with the 82.12 driver set.

Let us know how your findings go.

Regards,
Chopper

Thanx for the warm welcome ... :)

Do you know me from other forums or is it just a general welcome for reviving my glasses ?

As I wrote in my first post on this page, I had some heavy problems on 82.12 and I didn't fiddle around with 84.12 yet ... if I do, I'll post back.

Btw, the modified INF files I attached earlier in this thread, should cover 'all' NVidia GPUs, so anybody feel free to give it a spin.

Cheers,
Maggi

Just a general welcome, for some reason the 3D community is very small and many folks don't even know that 3D is even possible on a CRT. We can't afford to loose anyone. /geek.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geek:' />

oh so true ... and in that context, you could call me an old fart in "real 3D", cos I found the bill for my glasses being dated to 1999 ... B)

On another note, I took the plunge and fiddled with the newer set of drivers (82.12 & 84.12) and to make a long story short:

84.12 sux rox, ie. the medical test image severly corrupts my screen, the stereo test application gives an instant BSOD and everytime I went from 3D back to desktop, I got a completely black screen with my mouse pointer being the only visible item.

82.12 ain't perfect either, but doesn't crash as often and at least I could get a handfull of games running quite decently:

NfS Porsche, NfS Underground2, NfS Most Wanted, GT-R, Half-Life 2, Quake4 (very low performance though), Painkiller

the medical test image works just fine, but like on 84.12, the built in stereo test application gives also an instant BSOD, also most of the time after leaving Stereo3D mode, I get the same black desktop that I described above

So usually after a round of Stereo gaming, I have to blindly restart my system with the following key sequence:
[ctrl-alt-del] [s] [r] [enter] for english OS
[ctrl-alt-del] [h] [n] [enter] for german OS

I surely hope NV gets their act together and releases a stable set of drivers in the near future.

Last note for now, in order to get Stereo3D running perfectly in NfS Most Wanted it is required to disable "Overbright" and set "Visual Treatment" to "Low", but you can leave the rain effect enabled.

Cheers,
Maggi

little correction to the statement above ... the rain effect will have to be disabled as well or Stereo3D will disappear upon the first raindrop hittting your windshield

I made my first tests in the safe house and obviously there's no rain falling, hence I thought it would be working right.

Sorry for the confusion !

hi maggy ... ( or nvidia .. please - i'm addicted to stereo 3d playing with my z800 )

i also have a xfx 7800gs and tried your solutions

/thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

i tried forcew 82.12 with *.inf from 81.98 and stereo beta 82.12
78.1 with *.inf from 81.98 and stereo 78.1 and saw only bluescreens after enabling stereo 3d

and if i install f 81.98 with stereo 78.1 nothing happens ..

please tell me more in detail how to ... (i'm stupid how to get stereo3d out of 7800gs)

-> oblivion is near and i need transparenya alising for my emagin z800 !!!

please please help me ...

is there a need to uninstall the drivers in save mode ??
my computer is only booting in normal mode ...
in save mode a few seconds after login it is rebooting ????
used driverclean pro ?!

i was playing with 71.98 combi and a 6800gt all the time - and it was wonderfully ... but i think oblivion needs more grafic power ..

Hi windelfried,

I don't know what went wrong on your side, but if I recall correctly, I used the official 82.12 from NV, without modifying any INF ...

- uninstall actual driver
- reboot
- install 82.12
- reboot
- install 82.12 stereo driver
- reboot
- enable stereo3d

as I said before, I have limited success on that combo and especially OpenGL seems to cause a lot more problems than D3D

Hope that helps,
Maggi
