I still like it, if people are so put off by that little thing down there that they would rather buy a 23 inch then all the power to them but ill be playing on my new 27 =) When i am gaming i hardly stare at the reflective surfaces of my monitor. the samsung i have is shiny as well but it doesn't bug me

Still, it's a waste of space and unneccessary annoiance. A traditional swivel, rise, and tilt mount would have suited me better. If that's too expensive, make it a rigid one but give options with a VESA mount., so people have the choice.
And still, IF the foot is done that way, why not make at least a cradle or breakout to hide/place the IR emitter it is bound to work with a little more unobstrusive?
And is there a single argument to go the glossy route instead of making it non reflective?
Of course it is the only 27"er announced so far, and I would tend to follow you in preferring that one over a 22-23.6er (since they are all of the TN kind as well) - but may we dare not to point at the negatives at least?
Personally, I am reluctant that this is the approach that cashes in my dough.

Not to mention I bet its a ghosting monster thanks to large format TN panels having issues with that. Were you wondering what took so long for a TN panel > 23" to come out 3D ready? Unless they did something to eliminate ghosting. Doubtful as it looks like they spent more time trying to make a new bezel/stand, and failing miserably at it. Looks like DLP is the only non ghosting format so far unforrtunately.

Im not happy with any of the monitors on the market yet... The stand on this monitor is ridiculous. Why are is there a trend for tvs/monitors to be all shiny and these days ?? Even the nvidia glasses can get annoying internal reflections shining into your eye... I think it looks tacky, try-hard, gathers dust, reflects light, and finger prints easy. Stupid manufacturers.
Never the less, IF this monitor is not vaporware, and delivers a good picture, then its got my money anyway.
Just hurry up about it Asus, less talk and more walk please.
Edit: Every day that passes, I contemplate more and more buying a Acer GD254HQ to 'stand' in temporarily until something better comes along... The sammy is just too small. I can handle the ghosting now that I have become accustomed to it, but I find myself wanting to sit closer to the tiny screen than is comfortable... Its just not working for me anymore.

Actually, there has been no news of this monitor since early May... :( The last announcements mention a June release. June is well past now. I wonder if they looked at feedback on the base or tilt, and went back to the drawing board for the design? Perhaps thats the reason for this mysterious delay and lack of new information...
The tilt means that a 3d surround configuration wouldn't work right.

Personally, I thought the same... so ordered a GD245HQ and send it back a day later.
Aside from the fact that its slightly higher resolution, you will still be wanting to sit closer to the 'tiny screen' because there is very little difference in the two.
Maybe it was just me but the the overall quality of the screen was worse than the Samsung 2233 I have.
Ghosting wise, I did not notice any difference, they both suffer the same.

I am glad you posted swsuk. I will definitely be waiting now i think... Somehow I get the feeling that I will probably keep on upgrading over the years until I have a large surround setup, or VR comes out, whichever is first :P

Someone over on the Asus forums said they called Asus, UK - they said the PG276 will be available this October.
