Aperature grill monitors have 2 very thin lines running horizontally across the screen (1/3 and 2/3 down). Shadows mask don't. The lines are thin metal strips I think.
If You haven't seen them, then Your monitor is Shadow mask. You only notice the lines on bright images.
I've had/have both and the screen on Aperature grill is 100% flat while the screen on Shadow mask is curved. I like looking at the Shadow mask monitors more than the Aperature grill ones. The Aperature grill monitors seems a little more "dead" and have a slight "grainy" look while the Shadow mask seems more vibrant and with more light output.
This is my experience but I don't know if this is same with all of the 2 types of monitors.
I've been using this Aperature grill monitor for 2 years:

but if I ever were to buy a new I would buy a Shadow mask without the lines.

I've been using this Aperature grill monitor for 2 years:
whats the difference (both technically, & visually) between Shadow mask & aperture grill CRT monitors?
And will either make any difference to my viewing pleasure when using my 3D shutter glasses?
i don't understand what the difference is??? :(
Also, ATM i'm using a 21" HITACHI ACCUVUE HM4821 , What type is that?
