The game is out and to my surprise gets pretty awesome reviews. Being a Resident Evil enthusiast since the first game came out in 1996 I would really like to know if this one is playable in glorious 3D?
Has anyone tested it already?

Damn.... Well this is one of those games that is worth a non-3D play through although 3D would be a welcome added bonus :) Thanks for checking Flugan ! Any idea if it is fixable Flugan ?! And if so , you think you can push me in the right direction please. Would like to see if i can (with my limited knowledge) try to fix it :)

There's only a few(?) areas in the whole game that are fully rendered in 3D, the only one I know of is under the graveyard, everything else is 3D models on 2D backgrounds.

Hey Mikeeeey,
If you have some spare time we could work on it together.
Steam id Flugan
Edit: It is indeed 3D on 2D like the original so nothing to fix.
Hey Flugan,
I'll add you after i have fed these monsters over here :)
Would like to work on it together and get some game fixing experience in 3D game fixing although the game isn't true 3d (pre-rendered background / 3D model) it should get me understanding some stuff.
On a side note i don't own the game officially but can work on it so to say.... Been wearing a eye patch and a wooden peg leg since the age of 8 , and even called my pet parrot Seamus :) (joking). If this is a problem just point me in the right direction and i will see how far i can get. I am planning on buying the game as i did in 1996 & RE2 in 1998. Ahh the memories of playing this on my daimond voodoo 1 graphics card(4MB addon to my s3 virge SVGA).... those were the days :) :) :)

REmaster is all 3D models on 2D backgrounds so 3D will look really weird.
The actual environments don't have any 3D depth to them so it would be like standing in front of a stage or something - expect sometimes you just walk completely through it.

Kinda thought so ! Seeing how badly "remastered" aka rerendered the 2D backgrounds actually are. The 3D models are standing out as it is but it is a small price to pay being able to replay this awesome classic of a game !

They are not actually rerendered. It is believed that Capcom no longer has access to the original rendering files (be it because they weren't saved, they were lost, they are not compatible with modern hardware, etc etc) so the backgrounds seen in the HD Remaster are the original GC versions that were scaled up using better-than-bilinear scaling filters and edited to look better. Then of course they also updated character textures, added new lighting and bloom, stuff like that.
so, this resident evil is not a perfect game -_- 8/20 because no 3D Vision support
It never would have had 3D support, the original game has 2D rendered backgrounds - it's all flat. It's not something they could have just implemented.
This is like complaining that your 2D TV doesn't have 3D support. It just isn't capable of it.

There are very few zones that don't use 2D backgrounds:

It looks like the game doesn't use anisotropic filtering even if it's forced.
The main reason for this post is that I made a graphics mod for both RE1 and RE0 thanks to the helixmod dll. I'll post them in Steam discussions later.
RE0: https://s3.amazonaws.com/masterotaku/Resident+Evil+0/RE0_settings_mod.zip
RE1: https://s3.amazonaws.com/masterotaku/Resident+Evil+1/REmake_settings_mod.zip
If you use the fps fix mod, which is a "d3d9.dll", rename it to something else and uncomment the
ProxyLib = "I:\Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0\fpsfix.dll"
line in "DX9Settings.ini", writing the correct path to the dll. I'm not actually sure if it's working correctly, because I get 120fps in any case.
Hotkeys (by default all effects aren't modified):
F1: noise filter toggle.
F2: black crush / color filter toggle.
F3: fog toggle. In RE0, it has three presets. One of them disables fog and shadows, and the other just the fog, but characters have the fog lighting on them. In RE1, toggle back to the default setting for ingame cutscenes, or else there will be a broken depth of field effect (which could be fixed with the "half" preset of RE0, but it isn't worth it because shadows are always OK).
F4: bloom toggle. In RE1, it also disables the map and menu graphics, so if you want to try it, make sure it's only when you're controlling your character.
For RE1, I also made a folder with two different "DX9Settings.ini". One of them is the default one, and the other has the noise filter, color filter and fog disabled by default. I didn't make this for RE0 because it isn't a 100% better option.
In RE1, background textures have noise themselves, due to the scaling process Capcom made. In RE0 they are clean (and with some color banding and compression artifacts that the noise filter masks).
Some of the effects are made to compensate each other's brightness and contrast, so sometimes disabling just one effect won't be a good idea. For RE1, I recommend disabling noise, color and fog, and only enable fog when needed. For RE0 it's more complicated and a matter of taste.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.
To have a critical piece of code that everyone can enjoy!
