Here's a post of all the entries in the main Stereo3D entry from stereo driver 162.50 under winXP.

Would someone please post the analogous data from a vista/3d-vision system so that we can compare them? Don't forget to include the driver version and alphabetize it if it's convenient.

You agreed that there is not enough advertising about stereo. I tried to made a seach for a local dealer where I can see the product working, and didn't find any in Belgium or France. No IE3D, nor NVIDIA 3D glasses. And no other LCD 3D screens. In high tech news, we sometime read that new lcds are coming, but never have been able to see one. And in computer/game/multimedia exhibits, never seen.

I'll have to find 'flat' batteries for my H3D glasses, 'cause I think they're empty after a few years of non use.

You're right : I have a dongle that connect between the crt and the graphic adapter. I'm not sure il will work with a regular LCD (refresh rate ?).

I'm using XP or vista (I've a HD rack).

Can you summary with single words (like for a baby ;) ) the best result you got, and how. Anyway, I'll try to understand your previous post and try.

I would recommend a geForce 7800GTX card on winXP but let's work with what you have.

What nvidia card is in your winXP computer?
Is your XP computer 64 bit?
What nvidia cards do you have other than the 8800?
How much ram is on the card and is it a GTS or something else?
What nvidia drivers do you have?
Do you have a CRT monitor?

I think you should start with a CRT monitor but if you have a DLP projector, that might work too.

I'll write more after I know more about what you have. If you don't want to wait, basically get and install nvidia driver and stereo driver 165.20 on your winXP computer and then follow the directions in the top post of this topic. It's probably better to install the dongle before you do that. Note that using the 3d on/off toggle may freeze your system. Just reboot.

Summarizing:
install adaptor and dongle,
install video driver, then stereo driver,
edit registy from top post, enable 3d and test.

There can be problems along the way but hopefully not.

Hello,

my settings will be at the end of this post.They will only be for reference since they are the plain entries with the 3d Vision transmitter hooked up to a Vista 32Bit machine using generic CRT mode with an ordinary 19'' LCD over VGA.
Using this setting I found that I can actually enable Stereo 3D and the glasses somewhat do sync up with the monitor however due to the setting being configured for CRT the hold-type characteristics do give serious ghosting.

Now, I completely understand that this is an unsupported feature but given the fact it works to some extend I believe we could achieve global support for any kind of LCD monitor when getting the settings right.

Here is why:
1.) works on native 120Hz LCDs -> timing is fast enough to deal with 120 Hz hold-type refresh rate
2.) works on pulse-type displays with refresh rates of 60-75 Hz over VGA
3.) This setting can be enabled on 60Hz hold-type displays

so taking the parameters of a configuration with a Samsung/Viewsonic monitor, adjusting them to 50% of refresh rate and putting them into the right place of the CRT config must give full support for LCDs to my believe - until I am completely ignorant to something important... Next up would then be a way to get this working through DVI...

So anybody with a setup-like above (3D vision + 120Hz monitor) please contribute, and without further ado my reg entries:

These registry settings are useful, but nothing is working in Vista, only stuff you see in the control panel. Do you know how to enable all these settings in Vista?

I asked nVidia support about the glasses delay settings and got this reply: "Thanks for contacting us. Sorry, unfortunately its not supported at this time. I've forwarded your suggestion to our product engineering team for consideration. Hopefully this can be done in the future." I don't know if that's just a standard brush-off or if they're actually going to fix/re-enable this crucial feature. In my cold dark cynical heart (born of long experience of the "2 steps forward, 1 step back*" nature of nVidia's 3D driver) I kinda suspect the former, but I'll be delighted if they prove me wrong.

Some settings are working if you copy them directly in the game profile (e.g. gamma setting) but hotkeys are not working.

I wanted that delay to try if it mitigate ghosting, but it seems that the glasses are not very good, I also thought that this is ghosting of monitor (i.e. slow btb response time, but it is not probably).

The new drivers also destabilized my system, I had to remove Nvidia own ehternet drivers because my pc deadlocked often.
Quite dissapointed now. Crippled not working drivers and not very good glasses.

I wish I could get them all working but I don't have Vista so I have to rely on others for info about that. It sounds like people are saying that the parallax inversion trick doesn't work but I need people to be more specific about what they've tried and what doesn't work.

Examples:
Do the LaserXAdjust and LaserYAdjust setting work? (OK, it's a rare game that needs it, but anyway)
Do the 3d-vision drivers have an option to turn off HW-T&L?
Does the frontplane (RHWGreaterAtScreen) work if you disable HW-T&L? What did you do to test it?
Can you put separate StereoConvergenceAdjustMore and StereoConvergenceAdjustLess settings in a stereo gameconfig and have per-game different hotkey sets?

Of course there are more things you can try to see what works and what doesn't, go ahead and make this thread your own.

PS: Don't expect other stereo output modes to work. I'm confident, but only guessing, that they took that stuff out of the driver unfortunately.

Of course there are more things you can try to see what works and what doesn't, go ahead and make this thread your own.



PS: Don't expect other stereo output modes to work. I'm confident, but only guessing, that they took that stuff out of the driver unfortunately.

well I tested with CD1.07 (aka 182.06) and CD1.08 (aka 185.85) in Vista 32 bit, and i have the feeling what has been stated holds true that actually nothing you do in the registry has any effect (even after relogging in). Hope is not lost completely though, I found that enabling both monitors in clone mode gives a nice in-sync vertical signal, however pulse width and timing are not suited to sync the emitter. i will play around with a timer/delay circuitry in DLP mode and post results when I have them - could take me a while I hope you can bare with me...

Hi all,

Using old-school hardware, I worked on figuring out the LaserSight (LS) some more and here's what I've found:

Using a custom LS:
Use Paint and select Image:Attributes to make a 64x64 pixel BMP (any bit depth) and select it in the nvidia control panel. Remember that magenta represents transparent. White and all light shades of gray have a yellow tint for some reason. I have not been able to get a white color in the LS. Oddly LS is shown as mirrored up/down (w/5200FX-71.84) when in use even though it shows properly on the nvidia control panel.
Registry entry LaserSightFile becomes "Drive:\path\filename.bmp"
LaserSightIndex becomes $ffffffff.

LaserSightProperty info:
default LaserSightProperty=$ff04b064 (1111 1111 0000 0100 1011 0000 0110 0100)
The first 8 bits are for transparency, ff is 0 transparency. The rest are for size.
Tweaking the size doesn't work with 5200 fx card w/ 71.84 until reboot. that sux.

So far my understanding is that the value should be split into 3 parts: ff, 04b, and 064 (each character is a nibble, half a byte).

They are not for 3d depth because I checked it with FP. no effect.
The first 3 nibbles seem different than the second 3:
ff000800 results in a dot (very tiny LS)
ff001000 results in a bigger than normal LS.
ff001800 results in a bigger than normal LS that becomes a dot when on the background.
it's as if the second three nibbles control far-size and the first three control near.
ff001032: 0.5 inch wide LS on background
ff001019: 1 inch wide LS on background: Halving the value of the last three nibbles doubled the size of the LS on the background.
ff00100c: 2 inch "..."
In general decreasing these values make the LS bigger.
Second three nibbles may control how the LS shrinks into the distance while first three conrtol general size, or that may be backwards.
ff000019: 0.5 inch on background and size is constant with any range. reduce sep to 0 to make it obvious.
ff000000: 10mm constant
ff000fff: dot
ff000001: 13mm (0.5in) constant


Note: when HW-TnL is off, then LS is MUCH bigger and auto-ranges accurately. When TnL is on, it auto-ranges too far in front of logo but is smaller. This card/driver would not re-enable HW-TnL until reboot. (5200FX-71.84)

In general if you want to check this out, set it to ff00100c and reboot if needed to get a nice big LS.

What good is this? Well, in a game like Starwars Battlefront 2, they have 1st/3rd person modes togglable and the targetting reticle is not at center screen in 3rd person and is at center screen in 1st person. If you could make a nice big LS, you could design your own so that it's effectively 2 reticles. The top of your LS design would be used for targetting when in 3rd person and the bottom of your LS would be used when in 1st person. The middle could be transparent so that it's like 2 LS's in one.
