I recently thought about having a look at 3D movies and gaming. I am at present undecided as which I would probably prefer. The ase of a console and a big TV for movies etc.
Or 3D Vision on a 120hz monitor.
I just thought I'd ask to see what everyone thought of the quality of the monitors currently on sale.
The issue is although I have a monitor ( Dell 2407 WPF-HC ) which has a S-PVA panel with no dodgy viewing angles and a full 1920x1200 resolution.
I cant see the benefits chopping this in for a cheaper TN panel just for 3D.
The new BENQ sounds ok, but not sure whether I should just wait for a similar quality screen, image wise.
Or the possibility of a decent 3D tv and use the PC with it just for 3D gaming as a second monitor?

If you are looking for gaming, get the monitor (or better yet, DLP projector) and use it just for gaming. You can keep your S-PVA for regular 2D stuff like internet, photos, and videos as you are correct that the 3D monitors won't look as good. That being said, the 120Hz input on those monitors do make them pleasant to view in 2D. Someday hopefully we can have 120Hz IPS panels.
The 3D TVs are going to disappoint for gaming. They will only run at 1280x720@60Hz or 1920X1080@24Hz per eye, I believe due to the cable/input constraints. That's fine for TV or 3D Blu-Rays, and I'm sure is playable for games, but won't be as good as an actual 3D display.
Though I'm starting to sound like a broken record, I'd have to again recommend the Acer H5360, a DLP-projector. It's only 720p but it is cheap. Cheap enough to replace it when affordable 1080p projectors come out. However, the real reason I recommend it is that there is literally no crosstalk because of the way it's DLP color wheel works (the screen is actually blank while the LCD shutters are transitioning). All the LCD based devices have some form of crosstalk.

Cheers for that, I was quite looking to have a stab at 3d vision as the 580gtx would have done it justice. I must admit I didnt even consider a projector. This is more a space issue as down have a big room and I already have a whacking great desk and 40" tv with my games machines rigged up.
Thats why a TV or monitor was more appealing. On the TV front I was looking at the 50" panasonic VT20 plasma. I like yourself keep hearing bout these crosstalk issues or in the uk that samsungs in peticular lose considerable detail with SBS broadcasts from sky etc.
I was almost at the point of ordering the benq but I am very anal about viewing angles, petiiculary contrast shift when the viewing angle is changed.
Without swearing on a pc forum, I actually went back to a macbook pro for a laptop as screens to me have to be good. I hate non uniformity and light bleed. lol
The choice for me was for either a main tv, or as my main monitor.
