Dragon Age Inquisition
  34 / 83
Hey there 3D Gurus and all other cool folks playing this game at its best and most immersible! This may be unrelated and maybe i should start a new thread but... I have a GTX 980 SC by EVGA, i cant get more than 22 fps in 3D (even though the game now looks phenomenal in 3D Vision!). I am using the latest driver 347.09. So i did some research and this card is supposed to be extremely overclock friendly. see: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/10/08/nvidia_geforce_gtx_980_overclocking_video_card_review/4#.VJwSp14BQA Now i overclocked the card exactly as instructed in the article above in a last ditch effort to make this gorgeous game playable in 3D (boss fights FPS drop below 15). But for some reason (and this is only DAI, DA: Origins & DA2 are fine) Inquisition crashes when i use the overclocked profile: http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTQxMjc0NjMwOW9IUVZJTkl1TGlfNF8xX2wuZ2lm And this only happens in 3D, 2D overclock works fine. Has anyone else had this problem? I mean the only game i actually need the overclock to run a decent framerate is DAI and it wont work! Wish i could afford 1 or 2 more GTX 980's for SLI but i cant afford it till tax time... Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! I wonder if i should delete the 3D fix, delete the shader cache, then reinstall V3 HelixMod fix and try to get the game running in 3D with the Overclock profile above? This is the error i get when i try to play the game in 3D overclocked: DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET ("The device failed due to a badly formed command. This is a run-time issue; The application should destroy and recreate the device."). GPU "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980", Driver: 34475 UPDATE: Sorry, this happens with 344.75 and 347.09

@blubberduck86 People are getting that DirectX error in 2D with stock clocks. If you look on Bioware/EA forums there are 10001 posts saying to UNDERCLOCK your card if you get that error and supposedly worked for some people. It's not the overclock is the engine that doesn't like to communicate with the driver in a "good" way. BF4 has the same issue. It's not the wrapper who is doing this, is the game engine. Nothing you can do about it. Another thing I find strange... I am using a 880M on my Laptop and I can play the game just fine. (Avg framerate is around 35-40 frames but it might dip down to 22-25fps in some locations/areas based on what is on screen). I don't know why a GTX980 would give that bad performance but I expect to be something on your end? Oh, and DON'T put everything on ULTRA. Vegetation distance, Terrain detail are the ones that eat alot of processing power. You can also disable AO to get some FPS boost as well... In 3D you should get 2D_FPS/2. If this is not the case, something is wrong.. Overclocking will not help the game but rather makes it less stable than it already is.

After installing Fix v3 i could play some hours normally 3D, but then again (see Post 436): look trough one glass is very dark, like it has too much shadows. How can i fix this?

Also check your card temperatures while playing. If it's getting too hot for any reason, it will automatically drop the performance. Looks like you have 720p available- for what's it worth I can run 720p with everything at Ultra, (minus required lower specs for 3D), and pull 60 fps on SLI 760. Roughly comparable to your single 980.

Yeah it's funny the game runs great (except framerate) with my default GPU settings (no Overclock) at a steady core clock of around 1415 MHZ! I can only guess at over 1500 MHZ with a successful Overclock in DAI. But like you said it may not have made a difference... Maybe my processer being only 3.06 GHZ is a factor? You know i can get a steady 115 fps in DA2 with no Overclock in 3D vision at 120hz! But that is DX9 using Eqzitara's fix. :'D I really love Ambient Occlusion though, i use HBAO (not full). Also i have my CPU as the phys-x processer is that OK? Based on a benchmark test using Valley benchmark Uniengine, i tested my stock GTX 470, the new GTX 980 and the CPU all as phys-x. the CPU resulted in the highest framerate so i though i'd use it for Phys-X. How about yourself Master H?

I can play the game at 3648 x 1152 in 2D with all setting Ultra in windowed mode stretched across 88 inches of LED real estate at 35 - 42 fps no problem (enough for me...) But in 3D at 1920 x 1080 @120hz it seems to crawl to less than 22 fps... I always assumed that 3D would double the resolution for each eye and that was the factor in performance hits. I am of the belief that if i get another GTX 980 SC and install it in SLI i should be good for at least 35+ fps in 3D Vision even in boss fights! The Frostbite engine should not be this taxing! I mean my old GTX 660 ti AMP was more than enough to run Skyrim in 3D Vision at 55 fps all day!

Tried different things but nothing fixed this so far... What you can try is: - in NVPANEL set Vsync to OFF - in NVPANEL set Max Prerendered Frames = 3 - in-game set vsync to OFF - Be sure that Windows & game uses the exact same resolution and refresh (ex: 1920x1080@120Hz). For me this seems to make this problem less existent. However is still there. Maybe it helps you as well

On 366.65 it finally kind of works, out of 3 times reloaded only once some rocks were 2D. Turns out I forgot to disable the shader caching after installing the new driver. But my performance is now terrible at 720p 3D. With the new drivers I get a solid 15 fps boost but it doesn't load the new shaders. I tried copying over the 366.5 3d vision drivers over the latest ones but it still doesn't work. I hope they sort out the issue sometime soon.

Hey Guys. I see you have released V4! Nice. I have gone back to 4K 2D output across 3 screens and am back up to 38 fps WOOT WOOT! But i would really like to use all the screen space, so i am wondering if the FWS would work without the fix installed? I tried it but it doesnt extend. Do i have to install ALL features of the fix to get the benefits of Helifax's hard work with FWS? Im sorry to be such a pain in the @$$. I now realize why everyone has an SLI config!
