GTX and 3d Surround Cable. Which one?
  1 / 2
I purchased three of the same monitors, each works with in 3dNVision by itself with a DVI-Dual. I have enable Surround, but I can not play them at anything higher then 60hz and I can not enable 3d. The third monitor just kinda has a heart attack and sputters and it says it is not supported. I was using an HDMI to DVI-D adapter, it has been brought to my attention in the GTX Titan manual that I need to use the Display port for 3d. So I purchased a Display Port to Dual link DVI adapter and it has the same issue. It does not work. Again research has informed me that I need to purchase a "Display Port to DVI-Dual Link ACTIVE that supports 2560x1600". This is fine. Honestly I've spent so much that I just want it to work now. I'd like to purchase the official cable from Nvidia but they are sold out now and forever. Which cable should I buy? The active ones cost 100$ and honestly I'd rather not have to spend 100$ on a cable that won't support 3d. None of the cables on any of the computer techs sites say they support Nvidia 3d vision. The one cable I saw at Club 3d something the CAC-1051 is sold out. So which one do I purchase? Requested information: 3 Acer GD235HZ with only DVI-D connections Only 1 GTX Titan video card with 2 DVI-D connections, 1 Display, and 1 HDMI. Cheap 15 dollar DVI to DVI-D adapter didn't work for crap. Only card I can find anywhere is Startech.com displayport to dvi dual link active. I would really like someone who can tell me the cable they bought, that it did work, and where I can get it from. Thanks in advance.

From everything I've seen discussed here, you do need an active one.

My friend today I just bought this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004I6L6DW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I plan to use in on my Alienware laptop and one of my screens for a presentation (rather than moving my whole PC there) If you look in the reviews for this specific model/cable you will see it has been used before with a 3D Vision Surround;)) So I believe this is your best bet;)) Tomorrow should be here, so I will let you know how it goes;))

Make sure you have a DVI-D Dual Link cable and not a DVI-I Dual Link cable if you get the adapter that Helifax linked. The only way around needing an active adapter is to use the latest drivers with the newer 3D Vision supported BenQ displays that have the proper Display Port inputs/support. These adapters run anywhere from $70 to $150. So for those of you looking into 3D Vision surround, be sure to factor in this extra cost.

I have the Dual Link Cable, as I have the cable the monitor shipped with and I have tested that the 3d worked fine specifically through that cable. This was done as part of my initial trouble shooting to verify the 3d for my third display did in fact work and it was not a hardware issue. There are no Club 3D DisplayPort Adapters sold anywhere online. They are all sold out. I was going to purchase the Startech.com adapter, however in the review it states they could not get it to work and they were going to return it for a Club3d Adapter that advertises that it works with the product. Again, it seems my only current options are not viable. Any of the active adapters currently available online do not work with 3d Surround.

Any item that I research on ebay, Either Acell, Biztech, Startech.com or Club3d has poeple say specificly that they can't use these active cables for 3d gaming. That at a resolution of 1920x1080p at 120hz it starts to flicker when the crap hits the fan. It is this reason I have come here asking if anyone here has a GTX Titan or a 680. Any card that requires an active port. I will wait for helifax to see if yours works. I do hope it does. I'd hate resorting to using you as a test subject, but you have already ordered it and I would like to wait and see how yours goes.

Should have just got two 780's or 770's, if your card is recently bought you can return it and save yourself the hassle.

http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/where-to-buy/select-online-shops.en.html http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/displayport-to-active-dvi-dual-link-330mhz-stereo-3d-gaming-cable.html FYI for Club fans...they no longer make Nvidia GPUs, just Radeons.
Cookybiscuit, I disagree. Pirateguybrush, Yes those are the ones I am leaning towards the most however, the one specificly listed by D-man11 below your previous post. The CAC-1051 model not the CAC-1050. D-man11, Yes that is the cable I am leaning towards the most because they advertise that it supports 3D Nvision. My problem though is that if the cable does not work and I have to return it, I have to return it to EU wherever I ordered it from. It seems a good possibility that I may get a defective cable from research. Also none of the online shops listed have the specific 3D verified cable. All 29 do not have the CAC-1051 listed for sale. Almost all have the mini display port adapter and some had the CAC-1050 which is a lower bandwidth and other titan users on this site have had issues with. Of all the post regarding a Single GTX Titan or GTX 680 using surround 3D, no one list the specific cable they use, and those that have it successfully set up used different monitors that had a Display port on them.

Well most people do 3D Vision Surround using two GPUs, thus avoiding the need for an adapter. helifax uses a GTX 590 that has 3 DL DVI-D outputs. My Acer GD235HZ at 1920x1080P@120Hz has a pixel clock of 285.5424 MHZ, just under the 300MHZ of most of those active adapters you've looked at like the Club CAC-1050. The Club CAC-1051 has 330MHZ. Some reviewers stated their problems were due to using the PC for the USB power supply, but were remedied by using a wall socket USB power supply. Edit: all of these adapters have a 268.5MHz Bandwidth..........except the CAC-1051

I wanted to share a little information that I was able to confirm just yesterday in regards to a question that I had regarding the M18X mini-Displayport's capabilities. I was unable to find a direct answer (via Google or Dell Tech Support) regarding the exact specification version of the min-Displayport that comes with the M18X. Apparently, it is 1.2, but I am still working on verifying this information. So, you may ask why would I be worried about some stupid little port that most folks won't use anyway and what does it have to do with this adapter review? Well, if you are an avid gamer like me and aren't happy with the 60Hz 1920x1080 screen that came with the M18X and would like to be able to play games @ 120Hz in 2D mode and also @ 60Hz in 3D mode, the only option is to use an external monitor solution. Well, here's where the great news comes into play. Displayport can support full 120Hz signals and 3D @ 60Hz (whereas HDMI 1.4a can NOT). The problem is getting the video signal converted from the mini-Displayport signal into a Dual-Link (DL) DVI signal for 3D monitors that don't have a Displayport. I found a USB powered (Active) mini-Displayport to DL DVI converter on Amazon and bought it last week. It arrived this week and last night I finally got around to testing it out on the M18X. I can confirm this solution works! The converter allowed for me to connect to my Alienware AW2310 OptX 3D 120Hz monitor at 120Hz and I was also able to play games in 2D @ 120Hz and in 3D at 60Hz (had to hook up the 3D emitter to the laptop too). You will probably need to disable the Alienware laptop monitor output within the NVidia control panel before enabling the 120Hz refresh rate. PROs: 1) Supports full 120Hz refresh rates in 2D mode - great for playing games on 3D certified monitors! (HDMI 1.4a can NOT do this!) 2) Suppports full 60Hz refresh rates in 3D mode - great for playing games on 3D certified monitors! (HDMI 1.4a can NOT do this!) 3) Supports full 24Hz refresh rates in 3D mode - great for watching movies on 3D certified TVs! (HDMI 1.4a can also do this) 4) USB powered - no clunky AC adapter to plug into the wall or power strip - W00T! Cons: 1) Cost!! This little thing is EXPENSIVE, but it does exactly what it is suppose to do and the build quality is excellent Bottom line, if you are looking for a solution to be able to play games in 2D @ 120Hz and in 3D @ 60Hz look no further. Thanks D-Man11. I have a USB 3 PCI express card that has its own 6 pin power connecter, and I use it for my external drive for speed and the reliable power. I will do the same with the remaining USB hub on it for my adapter. helifax, I hope it works for you, my only issue is that I do not need a mini displayport, I need a regular Displayport adapter. I will buy the same brand.

Hmmm...I just remembered this psot [quote="Daniel84"]So I upgraded from a gtx 590 to a Titan. First I've to say the guide is wrong. You link to a Club 3d adapter: CAC-1050. This one does not work fully. Has not enough powser. Seems like you need the CAC-1051 which is running at 330 MHZ instead of 270 like the CAC-1050. With this one you got a lot of ghosting on the monitor connected via the adapter. First: I cannot understand why you (nvidia) put a display port instead of a third dual dvi port on that card. Second: Like mentioned before: You guide is wrong to run tripple hd 3d vision surround Third: A 330MHZ adapter is not available in Germany without waiting for more than a month Even I don't care much about the money. this is a real joke. So i've to put in the titan to run games like crysis because SLI Support is really bad. And if I run iracing in 3d vision surround I've to put back in my gtx590.
