3LCD Polarized Projection Setup worrying about stuff
I was reading up on 3lcd projectors, and discovered something disconcerting. Read Here
and here. It says that HTPS LCD's only transmit longitudinal light, whereas I believe that for a polarized stereo setup you also need one of the eye's images to be latitudinal light. Normally you just put a polarized filter in front of each Am I mistaken in that this kind of HTPS LCD projector would not work for stereo purposes? Please, if you have a dual 3lcd projector setup, let me know if it works.

I have two of these in a polarized setup and it works perfectly.

You can use them with both ordinary polarized filters or stereopol filters (which are insanely expensive for now :( ).
The output polarisation of the base colors are different but the remain at either 0° or 90°. If you use filters which shift the polarisation to 45°/135° then you'll be fine. Most glasses are also aligned that way. Make sure you get a special silverscreen to maintain the polarisation.

cheers

Hey Likay,

I'm actually working on creating a similar projection system, but home-made by using the screen of a tft an HQI light, fresnels and 2 objectives.

The idea is to use just on lcd panel for the two pictures (left and right eye).

Would you know if there is a way to do that with stereo drivers, because I checked but I just saw the dual vga output which mean the use of two panels (kind of too expensive), moreover I tested this configuration with two computer monitors and in games the second is unstable...

Is there a way to counter this and put them on the same panel ?

Thanks a lot

Oops. I'm out on slippery ice here but these are my views:

First: Enough light is always an issue using stereo and using a fresnel lense to increase the size also naturally decreases the light amount even more. There is also a possibility that the fresnel will goof up the polarized light but i cannot swear on that. Hope you get some answers from somebody who really know abit more about these kind of things.

ps: There is an option in the nvidia driver for putting the stereoimages next to each other. I don't exactly remember what it's name but i'm sure you'll find out. There the images are next to each other but stretchened to fit the screen. Think this is not desired in your rig though since you have to stretch it back again. :P

Cheers

Hey,

There is a comunity in france which shares ideas on that subject.

Such a configuration had ever been made and the brightness is not as good as in a double lcd projection system but acceptable.

The point is that we need an above/below mode so in the films there is no problem, thanks to the stereoscopic viewers but for the games, nvidia drivers are the only way.

Unfortunately I havn't seen any above/below option in it.

Does anybody know if there is a way to do that?

I'm looking at building a setup like this as well. I've been told that the 'smoothscreen' technology Panasonic uses in their projectors like the PT-Ax200 helps make the light more difuse and ends up being more even after passing through the filters for 3D.

By the way, is there a term for stereo 3d achieved with two projectors with polarized filters? It would be helpful to know the jargon while searching around for stuff.

I'm interested in going the dual projector route since I cant stand flicker, dont want to sacrifice fps, and projector prices have come down enough to make it pretty affordable.

The most expensive component seems to be the silver screen - does anyone have experience with DIY projects or good/cheap off the shelf products?

Hi,
see this www.3dflightsim.com

Only DLP s projectors are good for active stereo - very simple and good:-)

Dual 3LCD stereo projection works fairly well. I have used shutterglasses with my 21' CRT...not much different quality. But, with the projectors I have a 120" screen, and multiple people can put on the cheap, light polarized glasses to enjoy.

I have had several 3LCD projectors, non identical, but used them at same resolutions. I have a Canon realis, Toshiba XGA, and Sanyo XGA. My Stereo3D projection using cheap polarizing filters and cheap DaLite silver screen have ALWAYS worked very well (until...see end). Ghosting is inevitable with silver screens (the silver screen does not maintain 100% polarity). IMAX movies are done with polarization. The reason ghosting is not noticeable with IMAX is because the movie is post-processed and alternate-eye images are processed to remove a bit of the ghosting from the opposite eye using digital subtraction methods. This processing is not available to the basic consumer, and certainly not part of any consumer Stereo drivers presently.

The only problem with my setup is when I upgraded to an 8800 GT card....oops, big mistake: NVIDIA's drivers don't do stereo for their newer cards, and may never do so from rumors/info in these threads. Now I have two $2000 projectors, $200 silver screen, $200 long DVI cables, filters, etc. The 8800 card was the worst $300 I ever spent. I want something faster than my 6800 Ultra but may have to go back to it. If only NVIDIA could officially tell us what they will release in the future for stereo support.

Me too, luckily I sold that 8800GT while it still held its value and only lost $15-20 on it.

http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...15333&hl=stereo

This guy built 2 LCD projectors himself (out of 1440x900 panels no less), and projects onto a wall he painted silver himself.

I tried on some cheap chinese single-panel LCD projectors and it worked fine. Polarized at 45° I had to use a mirror on one of the projectors, with a da-lite silver screen(shop around they can be inexpensive if you buy direct-from-factory on some websites, but the cheapest is an older floor-standing model), this worked very well.
