It should work (it worked just fine with older drivers, haven't tried with the latest yet), but the level of performance you'll get from that video card for gaming in stereo 3D won't be the best. So if you intend to play at the native 1920x1080 resolution that the Alienware monitor has you should get a faster GPU. The GT 240 will have trouble maintaining playable framerates with higher levels of detail and higher resolutions in stereo 3D mode...

the 240 was good for games last year but now the recommended is a gts 250 for decent results.
your 240 will still be good at playing games but you will probably have to loose a few detail settings to run it well.
If you have a good cpu this will take some of the processing power needed to give you a good play.
From what I understand a gts240 is ok for 3d blu-ray playback and for any other playback media you throw at it.
I picked up a nice gts250 for £99 with a gig of video memory etc although its not my gaming machine it does quite well on games bioshock was playing smooth at 1080p most settings were high. I have not tested 3d gaming palyback on it yet but 720p medium settings should be ok too.
If you want to play games in 3d I would upgrade if its just a general HTPC for media viewing your 240 should be fine.
