Auto convergence available or not?
Hi,

One of the games I tested so far gives me trouble with the convergence setting at any depth higher than the minimum value.
If I adjust the convergence for distant shots (e.g. exploring, fighting) then all closed-up shots (e.g. character conversation) are very eye straining, to the point that I have to focus on the subtitles or close my eyes. If I adjust the converge for close-up shots, you can guess that anything else gets messed up. I even tried some "in between" setting, which is a painful compromise.

Looking around I found a pdf version of the 3D vision user guide which mentions an auto convergence option (Ctrl+F8) but it doesn't seem to do anything in my case. Am I doing something wrong? I think i have the latest drivers and software version. Is this manual referring to a future version?

Cheers.

Is that really in the user manual? I have to check. If it is, I hope they plan on supporting that.

Too bad it's not supported, but why it's mentioned there I wonder?
How do you guys cope with it, since I assume this is a typical issues for RPG's where there's a lot of dialog...

The convergance issues are why I no longer use my 3Dvision kit despite its otherwise reasonable performance. I got sick of one minute everything is just great and you are into it, then cut to dialog /cinematic or close combat etc and it sucks bad.

The PDF you quote was written in 2001 and does not relate to the new 3D vision product, hopefully they will fix convergance as it looks like they use to have it in older systems and both iZ3D (my currrent preferred 3D driver) and Tridef DDD handle convergance much better via better tuning adjustments, on the fly presets and auto convergance settings but these are incompatible with the 3D vision kit.

Yeah, there have been quite a few claims. We were also supposed to have opengl support shortly along 3-way SLI support, generic monitor support and frequent profiles. It's funny how things have worked out. Anyway, hopefully after Fermi finally gets out, they'll start taking us seriously again.

I hope so. I haven't been hearing anything good about Fermi recently. In fact I haven't been hearing anything about it. Nvidia is supposed ot have some big new release tomorrow. We will see.
