Bioshock Collection - Bioshock 1&2 being upgraded to DX11
  1 / 2
I'm wondering if anyone else is interested in replaying the Bioshock series now that it's been remastered. The PC versions of the remasters come out Thursday. If you already have Bioshock 1 or 2 on Steam, the remaster of either will automatically be added to your library. Since Infinite only came out recently, it's not actually had a remaster, though it will be re-released as a package with the previous titles. Considering the minimum requirements have been upgraded to DX11, we will probably need a new fix using 3dmigoto. More information here: http://steamcommunity.com/games/7670/announcements/detail/590358275265994185

Yes very interested. Bioshock Infinite is up next in my backlog but I am considering doing a series replay since it has been so long since I played the first and I enjoyed it greatly. Would be awesome to replay Bioshock in real geometry 3d or even Superdepth 3d !!

It adds nothing to the PC. It actually breaks things... and people come here asking to remake the fixes... just because they decided to get MORE money on something they previously done.... (For those that don't have them on the PC). But the real money is the consoles;)

But I haven't played the games in a while, and this has got me interested again. If no one feels like remaking a fix (understandably so), I will give it a try myself (though I've been saying that, maybe this will be the impetus for me to actually go and do it).

Based on comparison videos I saw improvements, although this will obviously be a larger upgrade for those who had only played on last gen consoles. helifax is probably right that it best to stick to the original games / fixes to play in 3D. DX11 got me excited to potentially play using TaB 3d, for those of us with projectors.

Since they are Dx11, remember you can always use Nvidia CM mode;) not quite good as the real thing, but if you really want to play the DX11 version, that is the easiest thing to do;) If someone is really motivated and wants to re-make the fixes that is awesome! but, I still think that effort would be better spent elsewhere;)

At least this fixes the horrible super low FPS physics.. graphics seems like 5% better or so, often hard to tell.

I'll receive both remastered games for free at release date. I don't know what to do. On one hand, I have already finished the original games years ago, I have a big backlog and little free space in my SSD. On the other hand, it fixes some issues that the original game had. I can't promise that I'll look at it, especially if to see all broken shaders I have to go through all the game (it isn't short).

FYI. Since I got it for free I thought I would let you guys know how Bioshock 1 Remastered works. First the game runs very smooth with vsync off I get easily over 200fps. Textures and lighting are improved. Water rendering is a little worse than the originals DX10 mode, but you have to side by side them to notice. There is one bug in the audio that requires a modification of the config file. To fix and restore true surround sound 5.1 audio to the game open the Bioshock.ini file located in \AppData\Roaming\BioshockHD\Bioshock And go to the [ShockGame.ShockUserSettings] Change SpeakerMode=SM_Stereo to SpeakerMode=SM_5_1 Also I since I have a Creative Soundblaster Z card I also set bEAXEnabled=True Now on to 3d. Being a DX11 title the only option right now is to use CM mode. I had to remove Bioshock.exe from the original Bioshock profile (not sure why they kept the same .exe name for both the old and remaster) and decided to add Bioshock.exe to the Bioshock Infinite profile. So far the CM mode works fine with no noticeable shader or shadow issues. Just the usually halo around the player's hands/weapons. Benefit for those who want the higher quality water of the originals DX10 mode can now get it with the trade off of running in CM mode.

Spoke too soon on no shader issues in CM mode. There are major issues with volumetric effects like fog and light shafts that royally screws up the depth in CM mode with the Bioshock Infinite profile. I am going to try a few other CM profiles too see if they improve it, but I expect not. Maybe Nvidia will release updated CM profiles for the remasters in the next driver update.
And how does it look in real 3D?
Well using the Max Payne 3 profile the game engages 3d but does not render a 3d image. It just causes rendering issues. Using the AC:3 or Bioshock Infinite profile it does 3d only in CM mode with the broken volumetric effects. Hitting CTRL+ALT+F11 (real 3d) just gives the same 2d image as when using the Max Payne 3 profile. As expected if you want 3d right now it is best to just go back to the original using the Helixmod.
