This also puts your system into an extreme outlier scenario, where things you try really have no direct relevance to others. It's just too different. But I don't disagree that patches can make things worse. My approach, for what it's worth, is to set System Restore to allow 50G of storage, minimum of 10% of boot drive. Fact: If KB2670838 isn't already installed, it will be installed for you when you choose to install IE10

Helifax I stumbled onto this as well. Along with that forum post =P The patch itself is offered as an optional download but as soon as you install certain versions of IE it installs itself. (10 and 11 I think) It is strange that you can't find it in the installed patches list though. but I did notice it doing weird things depending on what optional updates were installed, and you would have different optional updates offered to you depending on what IE was running. I was not even offered the patch until I had installed a bunch of optional ones. I got the lot, flagged the offending update as as hidden and then installed IE 11 and saw it had installed itself, then when I removed KB2670838 it rolled me back to IE 8. I haven't had any issues with the shaders since I did this and can run happily with shader cache on. Still crash but the alt+tab trick gets around it most of the time but usually the shaders are ok on load as well. (first time I have been able to achieve this) I am very happy!

I will check to see if is in the list of the "optional" ones that I never install or if is hidden :)) On a side note: - Yes game still crashes from time to time... although lately (and with 344.48 for me) I am able to play quite a lot until it actually crashes (and specially in MP where I play like 6-8 game sessions until I get a crash) - For the fix getting disabled when ALT+TAbbing and CTRL+T back after, I am also noticing this. But, I also noticed that you can re-trigger the fix to work again without quitting the game: - If you get the fix disabled, disable 3D - ALT+TAB to Windows - ALT+TAB to game - Reload the current save (should be less than 5 seconds to reload the scene) - During the loading screen enable 3D (CTRL+T) 2nd option: - quit to main menu - Load the save - Alt+tab durring the cards loading screen - Alt+tab to game back - During the 2nd part of the loading screen (black screen + logo) hit CTRL+T. If I do that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but mostly it works for me;)) (This issue is both on SLI and Single GPU) Maybe this helps with kicking the fix back if the game decided to disable it.:)

Easiest way to tell if the evil update is installed is to go to Installed Updates, and in the search box, type in the KB2670838. No other good way to sort that list. If you have it installed it will show up, even if you got force fed the update from IE11. If it's not in that list I'm nearly certain that means it's not installed. That update introduces some radical changes in DXGI that are similar to what they changed in Win8.1. It's out of character for Microsoft to ignore backwards compatibility, but they did in this case. In general, that patch will be on the 'optional' list, and not forced upon you. It's not a security or crash fix. But as noted if you update to IE11 you are forced to get it. Not sure about IE10.

Thx bo3b for the search function tip ( I don't know why I didn't think of that...) Apparently I have the crappy KB2670838 installed on both boxes (Desktop->SLI + Surround; Laptop->Single GPU) and I am running IE11 on both machines... Did more testing and I am able to run the game with the official profile just fine on my SLI system (Disabled Surround just in case) using the 344.48 drivers.... Now I am at a loss... I still don't understand why some of you have "these problems"... I will install all the updates just (including the optional ones) and see if that makes a difference... (Need to make a Backup first though...)

Honestly, I think the problems people are having is more to do with having to run on the bf4 profile. The evil update removal really just seems to allow me to run with the shader cache on in Sli. I have given up trying to get the official profile to work in Sli and can't see any difference between people who can and those that can't. First thing I tried in my new system build was the defAult profile on a raw build..I think some cards simply don't like it. :-(

Curious if my wrapper makes any difference. Check my signature. Will probably need to add d3dcompiler_47 when using Winddows 7.

Hmm... don't use a phone to record your desktop;)) hard to see;)) (but I can understand why you did it;)) ) - Also KILL all the apps in the background for this game (have only Desktop and this game running or else you will have massive grief..) As for the problem itself... I really have no idea.... but from what I see there the game tends to switch to window mode (even if it says fullscreen). You can press ALT+Enter to switch back to fullscreen. 1. Set your Windows Resolution AT THE SAME value (res + refresh) as in game 2. Set the resolutin in game as well Ex: both should be 1280x720@60HZ(59.994). Maybe this helps.
