Autostereograms as driver to make stereo and/or strainess work on PC
1 / 2
Hi.
I want to ask why nVidia don't have anything like autostereogram driver or program like this one.
Autostereogram let us see simple 3D pictures for a fun without any glases or devices , but the main advatage is when you look autosteregrams your eyes look through your display and it means your eyes relax. You can look throug your desplay all the day and your eyes will be heathhy always.
May be you know how to do that ?
Thanks a lot.
Looking forward to yor reply and forgive me my English.

heh, I used to look at magic eye books as a kid all the time. I also couldn't (and still can't) understand it when people can't do it. Just a simple muscle movevent. And I had a quake 2 mod that put all the graphics in a stereogram and you could play like that. It was wierd but it did work, but my wife would walk by and say "what the hell are you looking at?" lol.
But the thing is, 3d vision is already 3d (and breathtaking at times). And like I said before, a lot of people don't even know how to look at stereograms, so it'd kind of be a worthless investment on nvidia's part.

Anyway this simple muscle movement do eyes loss their health and their normal work opportunity.

So have anyone made program that can turn a display (or at least a program for reading) on to autostereo mode ? It'll be JUST GREAT !!!!

But 3D we have now is very harmful for eyes and it's a fact. Autostereogram is harmless at all. And I don't really know how looks games in stereograms but as I said

the investment to eyes health when almost everyone killing it's eyes daily can't be a worthless stuff !!!

Well. I think op means autostereograms using patterns. This is pretty cool but personally i believe that the limitations of the principle won't give a playable experience with stereogaming of any kind. You would at most only be aware of the "depthmap" without seeing textures (except the ones made for detecting the depthmap) with this. The resolution is dependant of the textures used. Higher resolution gives problems trying to get a "lock on".
To view images like in the site above: Move really close to the screen. Then slowly move away while trying to get a "lock" on the image. if there is a dot or pattern that differs from the rest of the image it helps concentrating on that. Once you're about 50-60 cm's from the screen, just relax and keep "locking" that pattern you saw. The 3d-image should appear within a couple of 10's seconds. It gets easier by time.
Eyestrain while watching 3d can be reduced by adjusting the stereosettings until you feel comfortable, yet immersed by 3d. So a thesis that 3d gives eyestrain is pure wrong in that regard. It's all about the settings.

Likay, actually 3D is not a goal.
I want work on PC and have health eyes. So I need look to skyline but see the display picture. Can autostereograms give us clear pictures ?
If autostereograms can't give us clear pictures, may be we should use another 3D technology - side-by-side parallel stereogram (non crosseyed, cuz it's very harmful). Perhaps if the driver will do two pictures (may be on two displays) but you can see clear picture and your eye will be relax.

You can do this with the IZ3D driver. They have an option for cross-eye free-viewing.

cross-eye technology required your eyes must look a point before your display. It's very harmful for your eyes.

Um... dude, none of this stuff is any more harmful to the eyes than studying textbooks for 4 hours straight, or the amount of UV that the eye recieves on a bright sunny day. I've been gaming in 3d for years now. No harm done.

Well, I'll get some books at the library, and google some stuff. However, deduced from just logic, and what I've learned in high school health class about how the body's muscles work, and also that I mastered the "magic-eye technique" when I was but 8 years old, it's all simple eye muscle movement. And every muscle in the body, including the eyes, can be trained and strengthened. Which is the reason why new 3d vision users here, will start at a lower depth, then over time their eyes strengthen to accomodate extra depth. All the muscles in the eye that are used to tilt, converge, and focus are all consious muscles. We have direct consious control over them, with training anyone can flex them (unless you're one of those unlucky few who have some eye defects). I cannot see how that could be harmful, if not beneficial, leading to a more relaxed eye condition under normal everyday circumstances.
Having said that, I am going to do some more research as you've piqued my curiosity. And I love 3d viewing of all kinds, and plan on getting a family 3d tv. maybe I'll train my kids on magic-eye posters first to strengthen their focal muscles before I get a tv. /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' />

3D is not harmful to your eyes and, in some cases, can actually be helpful. Its an old wives tale that it hurts your eyes. I bet you also think you'll go blind if you touch yourself too much...

First time I've watched 3D movie - Transformers 3.
I had a headache. 2,5 hours of 3D were just terrible.
BUT.
guys, I don't really care about 3D.
So don't tell me about 3D at all.
When you seat in front of TV or PC's display or laptop or book etc. you are focusing your sight on this things, eyes' muscles are straining not relax. Hours of this muscles' state is HARMFUL.
So I wanna look to display but to have relaxed eyes !!!!
eyes are relaxed when you look to skyline and autosteregrams and parallel side-by-side stereograms.

I can handle crosseye as well as parallell and compared to crosseye parallell definitely has a huge disadvantage: Images has to be quite small to work (smaller than the interocular distance of the viewer). I have an easier time to do crosseyed viewing (instantly within a second) while parallell requires me to view at a very close distance and successively move away from the screen. You do have a point that parallell is "easier" on the eyes than crosseyed but to be honest none of these methods cut it.
When using stereoequipment it's not about viewing crosseyed since the screen provides unique images for each eyes. If you have eyestrain it's the fault of the media or a badly tuned rig.
If you got eyestrain at transformer movie (i haven't seen the movie yet myself) they either used a bad implementation of 3d, way to high separation or maybe you just got a nonoptimal seat. None of these issues would be fixed by parallell imaging and the degrading of the imagequality is unforgivable, especially if somehow turning it into autostereogram imaging.
You should give stereogaming a shot. Inspite of some issues (anomalies like shadow and light issues) it's definitely the best way of all times to enjoy 3d.
Cybereality mentioned the iz3d-driver: You can easily use this for parallell viewing if you desire. Just hit [ctrl]+[F8] once. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

First off: Thats why we take breaks! Doing any one thing for hours on end such as, gaming in 3d or 2d, reading, working, lifting weights, eating too much... the list goes on.
Second: What you ask for is relatively simple. Get a bigger screen, sit farther back so your eyes are more parallel, maybe make the text for windows bigger, and enjoy. I highly doubt that microsoft or nvidia would invest time into a 3d plugin for the desktop just to move the screen plane farther back.

I'm glaid your eyes is fine but if you study ophthalmology books a bit you'll know what things are harmful and why
Well, I'll get some books at the library, and google some stuff.
