Windows XP Blues
  3 / 3
Unfortunately I am one of the very few people who have no access to an ethernet connection, so I must game wirelessly. Unfortunately in vista and windows 7 I get a huge lag spike that drops my fps to single digits every 2 minutes. I did a ping -t to my router and found occasionally I will get a 1200ms spike to my router. I researched the hell out of it and tried SEVERAL fixes such as vista anti-lag etc. with no luck. I found the only acceptable fix was using Windows XP with the included software network monitor..
I'm sure other wireless gamers have noticed the same problems as they are trying to concoct a solution but none have been as effective as just going back to XP... if anyone has a recommendation on this so that I can use vista (and no I can not get an ethernet connection :() I would be very willing to listen, as good assistance is hard to come by :)
I am sure I am in the minority rather than the majority when it comes to this issue on why I can't upgrade but it's a shame I can't use this awesome setup as I love 3D vision.. but the lag spikes are too much of a concern and I like to play games competitively at a high level and can not just 'live with it' ..which is a shame because I would love to see how my gtx295 would work with this thing :(
I wish that was the case, however, I just upgraded from an 8800 GT. I've also replaced the motherboard, the memory, the hard drive, the power supply. The entire computer is new parts, produced well after the release of Vista. I'm not looking for help, I'm just sharing my experience, and desire for an XP version.
well then you are quite obviously doing something wrong then. i have built countless pc's and vista has been no problem at all apart fromwhen i had a hardware issue with my graphics card.

I suppose the other 35% of people who choose to 'downgrade' to XP from Vista are doing something wrong then too?
I suppose the majority of IT departments who tested and rejected Vista were doing something wrong as well?
I suppose Vista is perfect in every way, has no speed or stability issues on any hardware? Right. Methinks me smells a shill or a fanboy.

This thread is to register support for an XP Driver. Anything else is just noise.
I too am hoping for XP Drivers. I'm running a new computer with 4 gigs of memory and a GTX260. The performance hit I take with Vista is far too great, and BSODs are a regular occurence. XP is much faster and completely stable. I'm currently running Windows 7 Beta, and while the speed hit is lessened, the stability is very lacking, freezing outright several times a day. I'd really like to use 3d Vision without having to reboot Windows 7 / Vista several times a day.
You get BSODs as a regular occurrence using Vista?

I use Vista at work, and on 2 of my 3 home machines. I think the last BSOD I've seen was back in 2007.

I use all versions of Vista- currently on 64 Ultimate, Home Premium, and Enterprise, on a Intel i7, AMD X2, and Intel C2d respectively. I've used Intel and NVIDIA motherboards with several chipsets on Vista, with NVIDIA, AMD and Intel graphics, and RealTek, ADi, and Creative sound chipsets. In other words, I'm basically using pretty much all commonly used hardware in combination with Vista, day in day out, without problems.

I also disagree with your assessment of "great performance hit":
It's clear that driver issues in Windows Vista have been largely ironed out, as the five to 10 percent performance drop compared to Windows XP is virtually gone.
Bottom line:

Complaints about Vista problems in 2009 are FUD. The world is moving on from Windows XP.
