We so nearly split - but somehow, against the odds - Ive fallen back in love with 3D Gaming
Doh it would appear I can no longer set steam not to automatically update, instead the only options are;
[.]Always keep this game up to date[/.]
[.]Only update this game when I launch it[/.]
[.]High priority - Always auto update this before others[/.]
So im guessing, the safeguard I was looking for is no longer an option. Anyone know of a way round this?
Ive taken a RAR of my autosport folder, with the thinking if some patch breaks everything, I can slect steam Offline mode and extract the RAR???
Yep, unfortunately Steam is getting pretty sloppy. The most recent hit was for the Steam client itself, where if you run anything newer than 6/30/14 client, they force the Steam Overlay to always load, no matter the setting. This breaks any fix where you needed to disable their overlay. Fix is to rename their overlay dll out of the way.
I hadn't noticed they took away the ability to refuse updates, that sucks. Just like XBox now- Update or don't play. For games themselves being updated, making a time specific backup is not a bad idea, and will allow you to at least run when offline.
Another possibility I recommended was to set the System Restore feature on, and give it a lot of space, like 50G. When games are updated, you can use System Restore to get the original game files back.
It's also a possibility to run the Edward Kenway version of a game and take back full control from these corporate control freaks. :->

Welcome back!
I find myself increasingly looking for games at GOG. Sadly Grid Autosport isn't there yet but it will be.
Because GOG is browser based you are in control of updates. Also zero footprint, unlike Stream.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
