These light shafts have been the bane of my existence ever since I got into 3D Vision modding - some of you might recall that I spent a *lot* of time (several weeks) trying to fix these back in the day and eventually I had to admit defeat and release the mod with them disabled. I could never get the maths to quite work out, and didn't have enough visibility with Helix Mod to work out why (hello non-uniform scaling), and became convinced that it would be impossible to stereoise the specific render targets I needed in Helix Mod without also stereoising shadow maps that had to remain mono. I've faced some other pretty difficult light shafts (Miasmata, Far Cry 4 and Far Cry Primal come to mind) and a lot of much easier ones, but these have been the only light shafts that have ever defeated me - until now :) https://youtube.com/watch?v=XAJ8M9xEHJU Some of you may also recall that a while back I was experimenting with alternate means to fix games that didn't involve editing shaders and had a couple of proof of concepts of the idea - part of that technique is used in these light shafts so that I can stereoise them once in a compute shader and have all 24 relevant pixel shaders pick up the stereoised coordinates with only minimal changes performed to those shaders by asmtool (which is nice, because there is a lot of maths to make these work, which is annoying in assembly, and decompiler bugs mean I can't use HLSL for these). There is also some... interesting render target redirection used to stereoise the relevant render targets without using a [TextureOverride]. This presented some new challenges in clearing these, but got around the issue of stereoising a shadow map that shouldn't be. There's also two debug shaders commented out in the d3dx.ini - one to show the stereo depth I calculate for the light positions, and another to dump out a bunch of working out for the maths to stereoise them so I could check that my maths and any assumptions I had made were correct.

Totally! So much improvements, what a long and great road you made! You bring so much to the community. Forever thank you ;). You used so much time & effort for this game that now i must play all this saga. We owe you so much, so it will me first time i'm gonna join a patreon with my modeste contribution! Keep going forward and sharing so much for the community! We totally support you, if you come in France come say a hello at home;). I really hope one day you will reach your second goal of patreon, i can't imagine what you can bring if we have you dedicated for 3Dmigoto some times. Bad that i'm not rich to pay you this. Thank you very much all past, present and futur shaderhackers!
Phew! The fix is finally up on the blog, along with a bit of a write up on the history of this one.
Thanks for all your work over the years DSS, a very interesting read on the blog too. Although this game is not really my thing, it clearly an awesome step forward for 3dvision in general and I for one appreciate it too the extreme. Unfortunately due to my own financial issues. (just found out I am losing my job in November due to company acquisition) I have regrettably had to withdraw my patreon support to you for now. But I will resolve this once my own financial situation is more clear. You are truly a star in this community, and hope theres a fast approaching light at the end of the tunnel for us both. =)

I had to comment on this again !! This game with DSS's fix is beyond belief, it's simply a blast !!!! All those small details and tiny reflections to the magnificent lightshafts, every thing is spot on !! And the 3D cursor works incredible well, and the performance is much better than previous version ! Those of you who doesn't own this game, all I can say is buy it !! Those of you who doesn't support DSS, all I can say is do it !! THANKS DSS :)

DSS - thanks for your patience in fixing this game multiple times, through its various releases. Superb work!! The game is very good - but may require a little extra web reading to understand the back story, if you have not played prior games in series (like me). The story is worth the research time invested, in my opinion. I completely agree with Blacksmith56 - all 3D enthusiasts in this community (not fixers) should find some way to support DSS through either PayPal or Patreon. He is a unique talent in this 3D Vision community...
