How to remove 3D Vision Discovery without removing 3D Vision? :(
1 / 3
I have a ViewSonic V3D245, which is an Nvidia 3D Vision-ready monitor and a 570 GTX on a 64-Bit Win 7 Pro. I have been happily using the 3D Vision that was in an old GeFroce driver that came out over a year ago with no problems. Recently, I picked up a new PC game that crashed on boot because I didn't have the latest GeForce drivers. So I uninstalled the old drivers and installed the latest ones. Now my new game doesn't crash anymore (yay!)
The new problem is that every single time I start my system, and begin playing any game that can run in 3D, it instead has a horrible red tint. Eventually, I discovered that it was because of this 3D Vision Discover option in my "Set Up Stereoscopic 3D" section in the Nvidia Control Panel. I manually changed it to "Viewsonic 120Hz 3D LCD" and hit apply. Problem solved. ...Until I later boot up again and try to play a game. It's like every freakin' time, it keeps going back to 3D Vision Discovery.
Choosing "Disable 3D Vision" from the Start Menu turns off Stereoscopic 3D altogether. I do not want that. I want to keep using my regular Active Shutter 3D, I just want to disable the 3D Vision Discovery. Is there any way to just either prevent 3D Vision Discovery being installed or to remove it or something? Because apparently disabling it doesn't stick. :(

Same problem here. Asus 278H. Randomly changes to 3D Vision Discover-monitor, only way to get it right is exit game, open control panel, change back and hope it sticks. Two years since it began, maybe because I have a second card for physx and TV, with its own monitor conected, but I still don't get it.
The 3D Vision Discover-option has no use, silly option. Or at least we should be able to remove it.
Tried everything, didn't help, except removing the second monitor, next in line.

3D Vision discover turns on when u switch video signal to ur TV. Just make sure before running a game ur tv is switched off or screens are not duplicated by pressing win+p. When u select "pc only" or "projector only" (which means ur 3d monitor) it will automatically changes to 3D Vision ready status

It also happens if you have disabled IR emitter (f.e. when I remove my 3d vision emitter from USB port for a moment it switches to 3D Vision Discover, and don't switch back to 3d monitor when I pull it back, It has to be changed manually in nvidia settings). Please check if your 3D vision emitter starts immediately with system.

I've had this happen with certain games also(older?). It *may* have been because the game was running from 'Program Files' and not the usual 'Program Files (x86)' ... you could try either moving the install elsewhere if it's in 'Program Files' or removing the profile if the game has one.
Usually when it crashes and defaults to Discover, changing it back actually sticks. If all else fails, a clean reinstall might do the trick.

Problem solved here, it seems. I unplugged the HDMI cable in the TV, monitor stayed the right one, Asus. Plugged it in again, problem came back. I didn't switch signal, it just switced back to 3D Vision Discover randomely with cable plugged in my TV. Unplugging cable removed the TV monitor as a choice in Nvidia CP. No big deal, it's easy to do. There might be a smarter trick, but I'm fine for now.
Asus 278 has inbuilt emitter. For other users it might be ok to reset the emitter, I don't know.

u can simply choose "pc only" or "duplicate sreens" by pressing win+p without unplugging cable

Okay, so now that I have a chance to reply to this again.
Mistersvin:
I have my Viewsonic V3D245 monitor hooked up via DMI and a Sharp HDTV hooked up via the HDMI. However, I am not using Multi-Monitor Mode at all. I only very rarely ever send my output to the TV (only in the rare instance that I want to watch a video file that my WDTV won't play correctly.) So in the "Set up Multiple Display" section, only my 3D monitor is checked. I can Win+P and what is selected is "Projector" (because for some reason, Windows identifies my monitor as display 2 (Projector) and my HDTV as display 1 (Monitor.) It's weird, but there doesn't seem to be a fix for it anywhere.
Gadrael:
I do not have a seperate IR Emitter. The Emitter is build directly into the 3D-Ready Monitor. It is controlled by the Nvidia device itself. In the "Set up stereoscopic 3D" section, the option for "Select when the display is in 3D mode" is set to "Only while 3D programs run." So when the Nvidia driver detects I'm playing a game that can use 3D, it automatically turns on the emitter.
TsaebehT:
None of my games are located in either Programs Folder. I keep all my games on a separate drive ( D:\Games\Steam\ ) I tried uninstalling the 347.25 drivers clean and installing the new 347.52 drivers. It still activates 3D Vision Discover in all cases.
In any case, no matter what, 3D Vision Discover constantly activates. I'm under the impression that the 3D Vision Discover drivers see the HDTV physically connected through the HDMI and decides to activate (regardless of whether you actually have the HDTV set up as an active monitor). It seems to me the only solution appears to be having to reach behind the PC and manually unplug the television every single time I want to play game. That is, unless Nvidia decides to be nice and lets us either disable or remove 3D Vision Discover for good.

Unplugging HDMI cable was sadly not the solution, damn. Mistersvin: I know how to change back, the problem is it's annoying when a game has opened and is ready to play, screen often goes red, 3D Vision discover is activated. No matter what option I have chosen using win+p. I have to close the game, change monitor i NCP and go back. I still think it has something to do with my second card, setup and cable, but I'm confused.

u should check win+p to activate "projector only" before starting a game. This works fine for me (automatically changes back to 3d vision from 3d discover ), no matter how often u switch video signal to TV because it is already plugged in.
I solved this problem in this way because monitors are 120Hz and TVs are only 60Hz, and u should switch these both by win+P ("duplicate screens" when u use tv and "projector only" when u use ur monitor)
and what do u mean by "it has something to do with my second card" ?

As long as you are not using the speakers in the TV for sound, you can "try" overriding the EDID with with the one at the bottom of the first post http://3dvision-blog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2042
It will show up as a 3D passive display, which of course does not in anyway mean that you can now use your 2D TV for 3D. But the thing is, it will no longer have the Discover option for the TV and might solve your problem.

If you get drunk enough, you may get some kind of pseudo/placebo stereo effect with the RealD glasses.
