Anyone hear any rumors when the Acer hr274h 27 inch 3d passive monitor will be released? It is suppose to be the first passive 3d computer monitor supported by Nvidia and it was announced at the end of November but I have heard no info of when it will be sold. I even called and spoke with some people from Acer and they didn't know. Just hoping someone has an inside scoop here.

Still checking daily for this monitor, but ran across someone on the Tridef forum who had the Asus 27 inch Vision 2 monitor as well as the 23 inch LG passive and he stated the Asus blew the passive display out of the water on 3d. I have passive TV and though I feel it's got a lot of Pros over active with TVs, it's main drawback is needing to sit far way for the best quality 3d. This sort of gimps it in regards to a close up monitor. Might consider the Asus 27 inch when they work the bugs out but then I might also consider a projector since I have a room that can be kept dark.

It's here! Was surprised it made it to the States so fast. I ordered one and I'm a two hour drive from Newegg so I should receive it Wed, if shipping goes the usual with Newegg. I usually don't order something this new that hasn't been reviewed but "what the hell", a search for this monitor on google turns up a lot of posts by me. I guess I'm the only one interested... lol. Who better to take the risky plunge than me :-) I'll post a review after I've had some time with it and maybe even answer questions that I have from myself...lol. I'll include 3d view angle, input lag if any is noticeable, FPR line visibility, 3d depth at close up 2 foot range, and whatever else I can think of.

Bloody covered this on his blog, apparently Acer licensed 3D Vision support in the form of a new 3D logo program called "Optimized for GeForce":
http://3dvision-blog.com/acer-hr274h-is-a-27-passive-3d-monitor-with-3d-vision-support/
I just checked, while the Newegg listing does not make any mention of Nvidia, GeForce, or 3D Vision, the box itself does have the logo on it if you zoom in the lower left hand corner.
The implications of this are pretty significant, as it means Nvidia will license 3D Vision for use on non-Nvidia eyeglass hardware and may also be willing to support non-framepacked outputs over HDMI, if the price is right I suppose. This display supports SBS, TB, and FP, but not sure what output Nvidia uses before the interlaced 3D output from the display. Edit: I guess Nvidia has to use some kind of custom interlaced output to achieve 1080i 60Hz in 3D over HDMI, which is what this display supports. This probably won't make CB users happy.
Either way, I can't get behind this display as its clearly a step backward in a lot of ways. 60Hz max over HDMI even in 2D and half-res interlaced in 3D. Where's the cost benefit of using cheaper passive polarized glasses? This display should be $400 max. The only thing good that comes of it is the potential for broader Nvidia support for output modes and 3D eye-glass technologies down the road.

I got a LG passive 3d TV now and have it hooked up both to HDMI and VGA. I got the Zalman passive 3d edid to my VGA and when it is primary it says "optimized for GeForce" in the 3d setup control panel and allows 1080p 60hz. When the HDMI is switched to primary it changes to and says "3dTV Play". I guess they already sort of did it with the Zalman monitors.

Yea... I'm taking a chance I guess, but I'm defiantly favor passive when it comes to TVs but passive does have big draw backs not in just the resolution cutback but in also from losing 3d effects when viewed up close. I've only seen 3d vision 1 set up at Frys with the Acer HN274h and didn't like it much. I wonder how much better it could of looked setup in a person's home who fine tuned it and had it in SLI? Either way I purchased the thing to end my obsession with it and will return it with restocking fee if I don't like it. Hopefully I read that return policy right!

Just inflicking: All 3d-displays shows less 3d-effect when viewed up close. It's in your own perception, not the technology.
I'm also curious of your impressions.

Nvidia does not support any interlaced options. Rollermod is an unoffical mod and MAY/probably doesnt support it.
An acer 27" 3d vision 2 displays(active) is comming out very soon.

That's why this display is significant, because it may be the first to support interlaced output with Nvidia's 3D drivers under this new logo program. If it can do 3D at 1080i@50/60Hz as stated in Bloody's post, than its most likely HDMI 1.4a compliant and using SBS to achieve this.

Yeah I hate those in-store displays because they usually use some non-native low-res, low depth/convergence media that makes 3D look like flat billboards. Either way will be interested to hear your thoughts on it, especially the 3D modes it supports and how it interfaces the 3D Vision driver. Would be really interesting to see if the EDID info could be applied to other displays to get SBS support on other monitors....

Have you got the monitor yet? How does it stack up to Active 3D?
[/quote]
I reviewed it on another thread, just do a search for hr274h.
My active 3d experience is limited to what I have see in stores, but overall I think it's challenge between 2 negatives:
540 to each eye not being combined good at close distance and forming the faint FPR lines
vs
darkness of active
I hated the very dark screen at Fry's I saw and didn't feel like waiting for 3d Vision 2 to work out it's bugs. I chose passive but I think I'm in the minority.

The new 3d vision 2 are very good if you want brightness. If you ever see a display hooked up may want to try.
