Even with my two 480GTX cards, the minimum and average scores in the benchmark are too low for my tastes with physx on high. I can pretty much keep everything else on high, even tesselation. My average score is about 4-5 frames lower with DX11 so I will probably just play it that way. Sure, it would be nice to have physx on high but there is still plenty of action with it on normal and quite frankly, 3D + physx on normal is infinitely better than 2D + physx on high, at least in my humble opinion.

Interesting that you'd go with (DX11 + low PhysX) vs. (DX9 + high PhysX). Imo, PhysX adds far more than DX11 at a fraction of the cost in performance in Arkham City. Some of the boss fights or "dream" phases are incredible with PhysX. I can't say I saw nearly as much difference with DX11, slightly more tesselation on the Lion statue, a lot more on the vines in the sewers.

Thanks for info. I have a high-end setup as well and hoping that DX11 would not be a huge performance hit. Can you be more specific on the framerates you're getting with DX11? (As mentioned before, I'm currently getting 50fps average on max DX9) And also, since I'm at work right now, can you tell me if the patch installs automatically through Windows Live? Or do I have to download it somewhere?

Np, I'll try and upload a pic later that I snipped from AfterBurner showing the difference in FPS and GPU usage. The average is not that far off, but the dips in FPS in DX11 are far more noticeable because they drop under that ~40FPS threshold in 3D Vision. The biggest differences are in the two open environment areas when panning around where there's some PhysX and high graphics requirements. There's not much difference in FPS in the tunnel/sewer portions. The open air Gotham City portion has similar FPS because there's not much PhysX but ~2x the GPU utilization because of DX11 features. Slower GPUs will see a big decline in FPS here in 3D Vision.

Also, it updates automatically through GFWL same as that first TU, takes about 30s on my FIOS connection. The patch also reduces the load up time significantly (was really long even on SSD) and doesn't end the benchmark automatically anymore.

I get about the same frame rate drop with physx on high versus normal on both DX9 and DX11. Changing all the other settings didn't impact the frame rate nearly as much. I will probably put it on high when I start playing and see how it goes, performance wise. I agree that the physx is phenomenal in this game regardless of the setting.

The new patch has made the game flicker in dx11 and 3d mode for me. Anyone else have the same problem?

Playing the DX9 version of the game at least allowed me to use TexMod to make some modds. So I assisted Lucius Fox to improve the equipment of Batman and Catwoman /cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

- detective/cat's-eye mode: As I prefer stealth gameplay these modes are very important for me. On the other side I try to use them only for a short glimpse as they disturb the great graphics of the game. This was possible in Batman Arkham Asylum as the detective mode offered a clear view not only on the enemies but also on the environment. So a glimpse was enough to get the necessary informations. In Batman Arkham City You feel myopic when switching to detective mode as You can't see any details of the distant environment. I know that the developers want to prevent us from playing the whole game in detective mode as some did in Batman Arkham Asylum. But in my case the declined detective mode forced me to turn it on even more often than in Batman Arkham Asylum as I couldn't get the needed overview with one glimpse. So I made a mod that improves the visuals in detective mode to make it similar to the detective mode in BAA. I also removed the distortion and color filter for Catwoman's cat's-eye mode. See the comparison images: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/3d4dd/album/4edfc68d378501b94d000050/
But don't use them to cheat in the challenge maps and advance in the highscore lists /whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

- more durable underwear: Per se it is great that the heroes aren't invulnerable and so they get some scratches progressing in the game. But at a certain point it became unrealistic to me: I played quite straight through the main story and so after the "final fight" there were was a lot of gameplay time left for sidequest and Riddler trophies. But at that state Batman and especially the charming Catwomen were in a miserable condition. I didn't want to spend hours with shabby characters and I think that both of them would have taken time to change their clothings and vet their worst injuries. Especially Catwoman that repeatedly wipes over her face would have removed the dirt from her skin as cats usually are neat animals... I equipped them with extra durable carbon cloth underwear so that there is no need to change the clothings as the scratches are superficial. And I also cleanded their faces. I don't have any 3D effect in this game. Even with new patch and 290.36 driver.
I have nvidia 3d vision enabled in game launcher and I set resolution to 1280x720 59Hz
I have 3D TV 51" plasma.

Trine 2 looks amazing in 3D on my machine!!! Same as Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 (those games are not so fabilus in 3D as Trine 2 though).

So I updated the game and BAM, maxed everything out with DX11. Wow. Big performance hit. While I'm still getting an acceptable 41fps average, it sometimes ducks down into the teens. Not cool. I had just recently started a new game and was at the first cathedral encounter with Harley. Performance was so bad inside that the dialogue outran the animations. I changed Tesselation to normal and that seemed to help outside, but haven't had another encounter like that to see a worst-case scenario yet. I'm currently overriding some default settings in NV control panel to bump up image quality, so I'm going to reset those to default and see if that helps as well. Still, this game is so pretty!

Hmm... that's weird. I've tinkered around with it some more and I'm now getting 41fps average with everything on and tesselation set to normal. It still takes a big nose dive for split second once in a while, but it doesn't last long enough to be extremely frustrating. Hope you get it sorted out, looks like your system should definitely handle it. I'm playing with a boxed version updated through windows live for what that's worth.

are you running a 32bit or 64bit OS? The fix apparently does not work on the 32 bit OS.

This patch fix a lot in case of DX11 (i am on 64bit OS) but you all have to know that dx11 in this game is quite demanding. I am on 3-way sli gtx480 3D Surround and i can`t hit 40fps (on the open).

His signature indicates X64. I don't know why anyone would install a X32 anymore, although it would be nice if more programs would support X64.

the official patch does fix the dx11 stuttering, but only for single screen gaming. with 3D surround, the game runs better but still close to unplayable.

hope nvidia's next driver improves 3D surround performance.

btw, 3D surround, dx11 features causes odd light/shadow flicking during the scenes with heavy light effects. perfect so far for single screen 3D vision for sure.

With my single 480 I've got normal physics on, motion blur off, lense flare off, and 3D turned on and I'm getting around 30fps. That seems fine for me.

What isn't so good is if I turn 3D off for whatever reason. Then the game suddenly switches into windowed mode! At the top it says "32bit DirectX 11" - which is a scary thing to see in this game right now.

I'm running on Windows 7 64-bit though my drivers are 280.something. Does anyone else see the game jumping into windowed when jumping out of S3D?

I am getting simply terrible performance in s-3d with physx even on normal and s-3d and that is in dx9. I am using the latest physx drivers (290.36)and 285.79 and this is even when s-3d is off. Either physx is terribly un-optimized, or the game is, or both. With physx off the game is playable in s-3d.

It's hard for me to agree with that. I just think the game is extemely demanding on most systems. I played through the entire game in DX9 with 3D and all settings maxed. It has been the most stable game I have played. Now that I'm running in DX11 there are a few stutters but it is playable. One of my buddys has the game for PS3 and he says that it stutters and has crappy frame rate. So, either they are just pushing the envelope of platform capabilities, or you are right and there are some things not optimized. I'm just not personally seeing it on my machine. (I'm using the 285.79 drivers because I haven't heard anything good about the 290...)
