Hi, I have:

Q6600 Overclocked to 3.2
680i LT Motherboard
GTX 470
4 Gigs of ram
Windows 7 64 bit
Acer 5360
NVIDIA 3D Vision
HDA Explosion Sound Card

Didn't do benchmarking before patch but I thoroughly tested just now in 3D with a 1280 x 720 resolution and all settings on high and I am getting:

BO Single Player
Pretty Consistent 25 - 35 FPS Average
CPU Usage - 65%
GPU Usage - 25%

BO Multiplayer
Very Inconsistent 30 - 60 FPS Average
CPU Usage - 50%
GPU Usage - 40%

The FPS isn't all that bad but its playing kind've stuttery. Without 3D, MP is fine. But SP is still lower performance than it should with a GTX 470. Maybe I am bottlenecking and it's my CPU but all other games run on full max settings, and in 3D, fine. Seems to be that the game is not utilizing the GPU properly.
I have a q6600 as well and when nvidia 3d vision is on it's a bit laggy.

It would be nice to hear from someone else who has a gtx 470 and see if they have low fps when playing black ops and if not what cpu/mobo they have.

Came accross this post whilst googling "playing black ops with 3dvision slow framerates". I have exactly the same problem plays fine when 3D is off soon as it's on it's unplayable and far from enjoyable. I have been playing Blac Ops quite a bit and want to use my 3D kit to it's maximum like everyone else does I'm sure!

I have roughly the same spec system as you guys aswell Intel Q6600 2.4GHz stock, 4 GB dominator running at 800MHz due to mobo restriction. Also have the EVGA GTX470! There is no way this game needs more power to run efficiently?

My friend had a slightly lower spec PC and couldn't play at all at intial release so went out and bought a whole new tower just to play this and he doesn't play in 3D but currently runs it fine like myself

All we ask Nvidia is that you work with Treyarch to produce a solution so we can make the most of your 3D Vision product. If i'm honest I think it is a problem in the games code, which could be a massive undertaking to put right so will probably never get done unless it is a driver issue on Nvidia's side?

Sorry to bump an "old" topic, but I think that I can apport some infos.

Really, I have similar problems with CODWaW, and COD4 (but not so heavy), and now I see the same in BO. I had a Q6600 at 3.6 GHz and a GTX580, and with 3D Off it is fine, the minimum fps (landscape-intense moments explosions, etc) is about 53 fps, but as soon as I activate 3D Vision it drops to 19 fps.

Now I have upgraded to a Q9650 at 4.3 GHz, and I have bumped from 53 to 65 fps with 3D Off and from 19 fps to 21/22 fps with 3D On, which make it just playable in heavy load situations, if they are brief. But still, as you can see, the problem is there.

For COD4 I found also that in open landscapes + action (where there is more things to draw and calculate) it drops to about a 35% (from 118 to 39 fps or so). I have not tested BO yet, but according to your feedback it is like that too. On the other hand BFBC2 and other games drop to about a 60% (from 90 fps to about 55 fps in BFBC2 in dx9 mode, in dx10 is still faster), which seems more correct to me.

I tested also different resolutions, and find the very same fps 3D On / 3D Off in 1680x1050 than in 640x480 (I posted that in this topic (post #13) ). So at first I thought that the CPU was bottlenecking my GPU thus I checked on my side the load: the GPU is used about 30% max and the CPU about 45% max. So, if I'm not wrong there is no bottlenecking...

On the other hand, the only workaround for this is to use SLI. It seems that in SLI the 3D in COD engine has no/less problems. I tested two GTX285 and I got about 52 fps 3D Off, and 41 fps 3D On always as minimum fps, which was all smooth I could wish (unhappily my mobo does not support SLI and the SLIPatch gave other problems).

So at this point I really believe that there are two/three factors. By order of importance, imo:

1. COD engine is really BAD for 3D Vision. Of course a fast i7 CPU could help alittle (see EDIT below), but still it is not at all built thinking on 3D gaming.
2. The DX11 cards/drivers are enhanced for DX11 gaming and not DX9 so they could be less good for DX9 games than for the new DX10/11 ones.
3. Bad compatibility with Quad Cores? I doubt it.

That means that NVIDIA should release new drivers with improved performance in dx9 (there are still a lot of dx9 games out there...). Please NVIDIA/Andrew, could we hope for a nice improvement in dx9 performance in the last drivers/GPUs (and specially with 3D Vision)? I think there is room for improvement in dx9 fps...

So, imo, the "3D Ready" of BO is kind of a joke, as they have only checked to remove/reduce stereoscopic glitches but their engine is still not ready for that; they have not undertook a rebuilt of it in order to optimize it for 3D. So we have a 3D Ready game in surface but in depth it is a "3DVision-phobic" one.

I'd wish to be wrong and that it all obeys to a bad configuration or some hardware of mine bottlenecking it, but frankly I can't find an explanation other than what I posted.

EDIT: Look at this: Firingsquad 3D Vision performance test (CODWaW) . If you look for the GTX260 comparison (architecture closer to the current ones, at least more than that of the 9800...) you'll find already that the 3D On fps is a 40% of non-3D's fps (from 79 to 32 fps) and the reviewer uses a Core i7-965 Extreme ed.

yeah, i went ahead and built a new SLI machine a couple months ago, and now I have no performance issues with BO. But I was in the market for a new machine anyway. I know a lot of people aren't.

But, I'm still waiting for Treyarch to fix the red dot sights and holo-sights. They've NEVER rendered in 3d on the pc. They do on the PS3 and Xbox,I've seen the videos! Why not on pc? I still love to play black ops, its just still a bit sloppy.
