Is there any way of getting it so on a active 3dtv, one player in split-screen sees only their own screen?
So you can't see what the other player is doing.
But only through software! Not changing lenses. Already broke a pair of glasses doing that. :P

Its a feature in this display. If you don't have this feature your out of luck without hardware modifications.
The author in this video remarked about ghosting and it may be due to a small session but I imagine the amount of ghosting to be considerable.
Only way that it seems you've tried is if your display supports side by side mode and inverting one lense in one glasses to left and in a opposite pair right [one pair just left|one pair just right]. This is risky business as you've found out if there isn't a guide. I've only seen one guide but its for 3D Vision glasses
**This is just posted for explanation of how to invert a lense, this won't work with 3d vision glasses/display since they do not support side by side**.http://3dvision-blog.com/3139-modifying-the-3d-vision-glasses-to-show-2d-left-or-right-frame-only/
Is it worth it? Probably not.

At least with LG (Passive - 3D Cinema) this works just perfect with the "Dual Play glasses"...i have a pair and works just fine with some games (No ghosting BTW)....no need to build one.

It seems that you can modify/hack the 3D Vision Glasses for simulview

The only problem with this is it requires that the Nvidia emitter is activated and I'm unsure if you can have it activated in games that have simulview capability.
This would allow someone in a group that might be susceptible to headaches to watch in 2D, while the rest watch in 3D.
A similar hack could be applied to DLP Link glasses for the PS3 simulview.
