Cannot enable 3D vision in a couple of different games
1 / 2
Hello everyone! I am having issues enabling 3D vision in a couple of separate games on Steam, the first being both Age of Empires games (2 HD, and 3 Complete), and then A few Command and Conquer games (3 Tiberium Wars, 3 Kane's Wrath, and Red Alert 3). This is all while using my LG OLED65C6P for my monitor, which requires the Nvidia Control Panel to be set as 3D TV Play. My laptop (Alienware 17 with GTX780M and 3D display) has native 3D, but due to some injuries I have been unable to test it. I have set the resolution to 720P, but the issue is happening on the games that allow me to set the resolution at 1080P/24 as well. Basically, what is happening, is that due to the resolution, the TV is seeing the signal as a 3D signal, and 3D is kicking in, but the image on screen is still very flat. I see this behavior on occasion, and on games that are working properly I just simply CTRL+T to enable 3D Vision, and the image correctly goes to 3D, allowing me to adjust the depth, convergence, etc...
These games do not respond to CTRL+T, CTRL+F11, nor do they respond when attempting to adjust the depth and things. It is as if the TV, due to the resolution, sees the signal as a 3D signal, but the game is still running only in standard non-3D. I have searched and found nothing at all regarding these games experiencing this issue, and from my research I have read that these games should work great, natively, with 3D vision.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue, and does anyone have a fix for it? I did not have any issues with my previous Samsung TV, it seemed to work with everything that my laptop display would work with, including Tridef for some games, and now I cannot get Tridef to work at all, and 3D Vision works with most games, but I am coming across some that seem to have issues like these. Thanks in advance, for any help you might provide!!
Not sure this games work in 3D.
Please check your games 3D fix here http://helixmod.blogspot.ru/
Yeah, none of them is in the list, I looked there before I posted here, Helixmod has been set as my homepage for years now. However, Helixmod has never fixed a game that I could not enable 3D vision in. I would simply write them off as incompatible with 3D vision, but all of the games have an excellent rating according to Nvidia's list of compatible games.
I am not sure if I need to edit something on my system, perhaps an INI file that I cannot seem to locate, or if with newer drivers perhaps these games no longer work. Thanks a lot for the response!!

All the games you mention works in 3D, some better than others, but 3D should kick in !
But you use 3D TV play and all the games is old DX9 titles, it could be that combo, but I have no experience with 3D tv play.
What about more recent DX11 games, I guess they run as expected ?

Exactly why I was asking here. I thought they should be working. I don't have any other issues with games that should be working in 3D, including numerous DX9 titles, save for a couple like GTA5. Even GTA5 3D kicks in but, even with the HelixMod fix, the convergence is still way off, and it won't allow me to adjust it. I am beginning to think it might have something to do with this particular TV, as none of my other 3D TVs, which have all been Samsung until now, never had these issues. It always took a little more tuning when using the TVs, but things were always able to work correctly eventually. This LG has the best 3D performance I have seen in a TV, honestly, but there are issues with certain titles as mentioned, and I am finding that possibly same games may not work at all. Have experienced a lot of weirdness in some titles, like StarCraft 2, 720P looks stunning, has even impressed some friends who were not impressed by 3D technology, but then 1080P does the same thing as the games mentioned in the OP, 3D kicks in as far as the TV is concerned, but the image looks flat, as if no 3D is enabled. But the games I mentioned in the OP, I cannot get 3D to even turn on, regardless if the settings or resolution, but yet the TV acknowledges that it is receiving a 3D signal.
This issue seems to be a bit different though, so I thought I would reach out in here. I will have to try it with my laptop display, which is a native 3D Vision display, and see if the issue goes away. Thank you for confirming what I thought, that these games should be working. Now to dig in a little further.

Well I know on my System with DX9 titles I need to run inn Borderless Fullscreen to get the 3D to kick in and sometimes I need to switch the profile to another..
For example F4 BMS which is DX9 I need to run in Window Borderless and use Aion or The Basll for a
Profile for S3D to kick in so maybe try that ;)

Will absolutely try switching profiles, and see how that goes. A couple of the games I am having this issue with, I believe it was AoE, is listed on Nvidia's list as being excellent, so that would be the main reason I had not tried it.
However, you are having success with one thing that definitely does not seem to work for me. Running in a borderless window actually has an opposite effect on my system, in that I cannot enable 3D, similar to what I am experiencing now. For instance, if I have a game, that does work in 3D, and switch it to borderless window, I can no longer enable 3D. That happens, for me, universally. Tbh, I thought that was one of the reasons Windows Store games, like Halo Wars Definitive Edition, if downloaded from the Windows Store you cannot enable 3D at all, but the Steam version 3D works great, and the game looks really nice, without a fix, in 3D.
Thanks for the reply, will definitely try some other profiles, and see if that helps!!

Borderless ??? Exclusive fullscreen is the way to go !
Age of Empires 3 complete and Command and C. both works flawless with their own profiles...

Yeah, I am at a total loss on this one, it might end up being the TV itself, for some odd reason, as it never happened with my previous TVs, or with the native laptop monitor. This TV def exhibiting some odd behavior, but not giving up yet. Heck, this TV will not enable 3D under any settings in Tridef, which I never saw previously either. Since my laptop has native 3D Vision 3D, Tridef does not work on it either, but has always worked with other TVs, which is why I bought it in the first place. This new OLED has a stunning picture, and the best 3D I have seen in a TV, but it is really finicky it would seem.

Ok, so I just tried my laptop's native 3D with the two games mentioned, and the same thing, 3D will not enable, even with a CTRL+T. I installed the latest driver, 384.94, and same thing. Perhaps something else is going on, or perhaps it is a driver issue, not sure at this point.

Just used DDU, fantastic tool thanks for the heads up. Sadly, though, I have to report no change in the original issue. I launch AoE 3, on Steam, game launches perfectly, settings are currently 1920x1080/120, I CTRL+T and the screen flashes a tiny bit, but nothing, 3D never gets enabled. It is only happening in specific games, and 3D is working great in others, DX9 and DX11 both.

Ok, I did as you said, moved all of the executables to the 3d-hub player profile, same exact thing, still unable to enable 3d at all. Still have the latest driver installed, but considering trying a much older one, like 353.06, see if the issue goes away.

These games do not respond to CTRL+T, CTRL+F11, nor do they respond when attempting to adjust the depth and things. It is as if the TV, due to the resolution, sees the signal as a 3D signal, but the game is still running only in standard non-3D.
