I know you gave instructions in an earlier post about creating a .cfg file in the bf exe directory. I did this and it didn't seem to change anything.
Can you please re-address this in more detail??
It would really help.
Thanks :)

Glad you found it helpful, here's a pic of the filename and where you should place it:
You can just copy paste the commands but change the values to your taste. The last 3 did not seem to do anything for FPS but you can play with the values and see if it changes anything. Be careful though changing renderaheadlimit can result in more input lag while not increasing FPS at all, so I recommend keeping it as low as possible unless you are actually seeing FPS gains from it.
Also, to verify your .cfg settings are working, when you first enter the game you can open up the console and type out one of the commands without a parameter and it will tell you the current value, so for example, if you wanted to check dxdeferredcspathenable, just type WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable and it will tell you current value (should be false if you set 0 or false in the .cfg).
If you play with the settings some more and find any more beneficial tweaks let us know. :)

Yep, when it comes down to it, 3d with bf3 is completely useless
I haven't tested frame rates with or without 3D and maybe that's part of why I find the 3D mode to be pretty useful and entertaining. I have a 2nd generation i7, 9 gig of RAM, and a GTX580. I also have 35/35 FIOS, and I suspect the Internet connection speed and stability do count for something in the performance area.
I'm running 3D on the new Asus 27" monitor with lightboost and 3D Vision 2 glasses. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 (native). BF3 video settings were set using the Ultra button or its equivalent. I'm using the nVidia 285.79 drivers. The latest betas generally failed miserably on my PC (the 290 series) so I reverted back to the 285s and haven't had any issues.
I'm not actually perceiving any performance difference between the 3D mode and the standard mode, though I'm sure everyone is correct and there is a significant difference. I'm just wondering if some of the perceived uselessness is comparison at a level that some people (including me) just can't really perceive, so it's a moot point. I've been playing with the 3D mode for about 3 days and I'm not sure that I love it vs not using it. But if I decide not to use it, it won't be performance-based, it will just be a liking for the mode or not. People can take frame rates extremely seriously - that's obvious. But be aware that 30-40 fps may be more than adequate for some people, and the 3D effect is pretty cool.

Well said. Sometimes people lose sight of what really counts, the end result. Not doubting people's claims, but, sometimes the overall effect is what should be the main point.

Thanks. Definitely the case here. I checked my FPS with 3D and all Ultra except dropping HBAO down and the hint provided earlier on this page. 60 fps during setup etc, 25-35 much of the time on Caspian Border. I find it pretty enthralling even though that's way lower than people are discussing here. The new monitor arrived last Thursday, so I have about 20 hours of 3D playing under the belt now. For whatever reason (maybe the 3D?), my stats are up across the board and I just whipped through the rest of the Main Battle Tank unlocks. Accuracy is up over half a percent, K/D ratio also up half a percent, etc. I even have a positive skill level now (the comparative thing), which definitely hasn't been the case. So I'm very happy with the end result.

Anyone getting crash to desktop on multilayer?
Make sure your User account control settings are off/never notify. restart your system and launch game should not crash to desktop.
I don't why but had this problem of bf3 crashing to desktop with directx error and after everything this fixed it.
When I run BF3 in standard mode, I get 120 FPS Using two GTX 580's. In 3D Vision 2 Mode also using those same two cards on my new Asus VG278 Monitor, I only get 30-40 fps. The performance kinda sucks, I thought $1000 worth of GPU's would be enough to power a single 1080P monitor on Ultra Settings with 3D. Any advice would be appreciated, I would hate to turn my graphics settings lower than Ultra. I mean, it's SLI 580's here... They aren't meant to play games at less than Ultra lol.

Sorry guys, I really think this is an issue DICE has to fix. Stumbled upon this bit the other day reading over one of Nvidia's 3D stereo whitepapers, which confirms a lot of my previous thoughts on the problem:
Active stereoization incurs runtime costs as well. For example, most titles already budget their draw call count to get the maximum fidelity possible while maintaining playable frame rates. Active stereoization will result in substantially more draw calls-up to twice as many—which can result in an application becoming severely CPU limited.
As for myself, I just finished running through the campaign a few days ago start to finish in 3D Vision. Was a pleasant experience overall at these settings:
1920x1080
all settings were Ultra except for Shadows (High)
All AO turned off
no MSAA (deferred AA)
FXAA (postprocess) set to High
INI tweaks I posted earlier
For the most part, FPS were capped at 60 for much of the campaign, there were some drops but usually never lower than 40. The only thing that really bothered me while gaming were the FPS fluctuations and drops to 40 as the perception of smoothness just was not there and the crosshair movements often felt jumpy. I disabled MSAA because it uses way too much VRAM and for whatever reason, seems to instantly feel input laggy with MSAA on even at 2x where VRAM usage is safely in the 1200MB range.
I have not tried multiplayer other than a few tests early on, but honestly, even if I was getting 60FPS per eye I still wouldn't play multiplayer in 3D Vision as its still not as smooth and fluid as 120Hz in 2D. Performance over 3D eye candy in an online FPS I guess. /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The 3d in bf3 does look great, however it's a freeze frame affair as it dosnt work for a playable experience which makes it completely useless
Would love them to u turn & update it with a normal version as in other games, some games have very little fps hit for 3d mode
Someone at dice had the bright idea but it really hasn't worked,
Be good if maybe nvidia could offer their version so the bf3 software dosnt do it at all so we simply switch it off in the bf3 software (that option dosnt work properly at the mo! )
So far for me overall bf3 has been a complete waste of money & kind of thinking I'll not be buying anything else from dice & be apprehensive of any EA offerings in future

+1, you can be sure I will not be buying any more Frostbite 2.0 games (until this is proven to be resolved), and my faith in NVIDIA providing accurate 3D vision ratings is getting shaky. I certainly won't be picking up a set of Kepler cards as it stands right now, since $700 in new hardware did absolutely zero to help this issue in the first place. What an absolute show this was.. no 3D on launch, convergence is locked when it is added months later, and an engine that can do 40 fps max not hardware-limited. Weak showing by both parties. /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' /> /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> The solution (as if it were this easy) would seem to be as simple as providing a console command to delimit the 40/80 (3D/2D) FPS cap (or whatever is causing that rendering limit).

But be aware that 30-40 fps may be more than adequate for some people, and the 3D effect is pretty cool.

Well said. Sometimes people lose sight of what really counts, the end result. Not doubting people's claims, but, sometimes the overall effect is what should be the main point.

Bf3 in 3d is very unoptimised making it unusable
Runs fine in 2d tripple screen,
Hope they sort this out, no news or any updates etc
Active stereoization incurs runtime costs as well.
