No news, was a previous thread but was all just theories. Basically it SHOULD be using new engine but we are not certain. It may be possible if it has problems to disable/move shaders now especially since we are getting it a month early to figure out. That and unreal engine is super customizable. Again its only theory....6 days to demo.

ME2 is much more playable with the helix mod. http://helixmod.wikispot.org/gamelist
Was just made but if you are in mood for another playthrough I recommend giving it a try.

We'll get a really good idea next week 2/14 as they are releasing the demo. I have pretty high hopes, ME2 was close to being great in 3D (minor halo, depth, 2D Crosshair issues), with the UE3 fixes that most UE3 games released since then have enjoyed, there's a strong chance ME3 is going to be 3D Vision Ready or Excellent.

I think it could go either way. The producer or one of the main high ups said they didn't like 3D. They also keep uping the visual effects each game thus far which could lead to a lot of 2D effects like Dead Space 1/2. Check out my ME1 video in my sig if you want a reminder of ME1 before you play 3.

Which engine are they using, an upgraded version of the ME2?

? There is no mass effect engine.
Its unreal engine. They are using an upgraded version of unreal engine.(Unreal constantly updates their engine). At one point they upgraded so all games made on it are 3D compatible(homeland, bullet storm, alice). We are not certain though if its a version past when they did it or not.

Unless I'm mistaken, shadows had to be fully disabled in ME2 ?.... I played it through in 2D. There is simply no sci-fi in gaming, or recent movies, which can touch Mass Effect. Such a great game, I hope they follow through on their 3D this time round.

Is it me or does everything seem to be rendered at the same depth? Need to be able to adjust convergence.

Can adjust depth and convergence here.

My picture is half depth and okay convergence.(Didn't play around with it yet)

It may be fixable.

Also that was the worst spot in game that I took a picture of.

Well, I just tried it and its disappointing to say the least that Bioware wasn't even able to keep pace with lesser titles from lesser studios that released UE3 games prior to ME3. It seems to me Bioware is content with being as far away from the leading edge as possible when it comes to PC tech. It is just a demo, so there is a glimmer of hope Nvidia/Bioware are working on a Day 1 patch. After some of the recent backlash with 3D Vision Ready games like Witcher 2 and Battlefield 3 however, don't expect to hear a peep about it from AndrewF/Nvidia until its done and ready.

3D Issues I saw:

1) 2D HUD/crosshairs. I may look at doing a 2D/3D HUD conversion with HeliX mod but not sure its worth it for a demo. Or if anyone else is up for it that works too. I don't find the blanking/Nvidia 3D Crosshair is a viable option anymore because so much of the UI is contextual and changes dynamically. It also has a FPS-esque hit-detection feedback "X" which you lose if you go to Nvidia 3D Crosshair.

2) Post Process/Transparency Halos. I think this can be disabled/fixed with HeliX mod.

3) Dynamic Shadows incorrect or one eye only. Can just turn these off.

4) Target boxes are completely in 2D. This is even a step backwards from ME2 where they target boxes were at least 3D but broke at higher convergence planes.
Issues I expect to be fixed in retail version:

1) Cruddy low-res textures. I think this will be fixed, I compared the resource files from ME2 to ME3 demo and the ME2 versions are 3-4x larger, so expect at least doubled texture resolutions. Who can say for sure though given Bioware's recent track record with the SWTOR texture debacle.
Overall the quality and scale of the 3D Visuals are excellent, just the minor issues listed above. Still a disappointment however since the 3D implementation is roughly the same as ME2 and has made no progress despite UE3 supporting 3D Vision natively for much of ME3's development cycle. There's a slight glimmer of hope a 3D Vision profile fixes some of this, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've been greatly anticipating this game and ME series is one of my favorites of all time, but I will wait on buying this until we get an official word from Nvidia/Bioware on the state of 3D Vision support. I'll post a gallery on 3DVisionLive.com in a bit.

Tried the debug and it crashed. Something to do with the bink intro movies.

The 2d stuff doesnt bother me maybe I am wierd(Or that I am a high depth/low convergence kind of guy). If the shadows/halos were fixed I'd be happy.
