NASCAR Coke Zero 400 @ Daytona *Tonite* July 3rd - Tips 7:30pm EST Live Streaming in 3D
This is live streaming tonite, I'm not a NASCAR fan but I plan to check this out given the relative lack of 3D content besides PC games.

nTersect blog describing it with proper links below, you may want to test your set-up prior to the race going live using the preview/test link. I've already tested it out with my rig and it does work, but you'll need:

1) latest SilverLight

2) Disable SLI

3) Nvidia Surround users, you may need to disable all but 1 of your panels, I had to or I would get constantly blackscreen flickering.
Works otherwise and does actually look pretty good. Objects are very 2D billboard like most of the time but hopefully the live feed quality is better than the preview/test demos.

Setup info:

Its actually Live now, but in a rain delay. Doesn't look too bad actually, pixelated due to compression but has some very Avatar3D-like effects especially in the near-field of view.

Rain Delay.

Why in F1 do they throw on the rain tires and continue racing but in a COVERED nascar they don't? Not to mention they're only driving in a big circle. Turn left.. turn left.. turn left.

I don't follow racing at all but I remember in an ESPN interview Danica Patrick was talking about the adjustment from F1 and how much looser the stock cars are because those F1s have those massive wings for downward force to help them grip the road.

Anyways, the quality is pretty good, I'm impressed. This might actually be somewhat entertaining heheh.

Also we need a Silverlight-based Nvidia 3D player. Not having that full-screen flash/delay is definitely a great feature of this Silverlight 3D player.

I suppose that makes sense with less downforce.

Quality is pretty good.. and 2 cams to choose from: Redneck cam and the other.

Thought I'd give it a shot, but no such luck. First, I upgraded my Nvidia drivers to NVIDIA_3D_Vision_v257.21_driver. Already had Silverlight 4. Using Firefox 3.6.6 Browser, it took me straight to a side-by-side video which I could not view in full screen, so I could not activate the 3D Vision glasses. When I tried to load the page with Internet Explorer 8, it said I had an incompatible browser and/or operating system (Vista 64-bit). I'm far from a Nascar fan, but I was hoping to at least take a look.

No workie for me either. Honestly, this just made me realize I'm so ready to ditch 3D Vision for another 3D set up. It's been fun, but jeeeezus, NOTHING EVER WORKS W/OUT PROBLEMS. I also hate having to update all the drivers for every little update. It really sucks for me because I have issues getting around the onboard GPU on this mobo so its a real PITA.

Oh well, ...just ranting. It's not like I even like NASCAR....

it works perfect for me with an Acer GD245HQ and a gtx 285. Anybody realized that there's 3d support in a window now? try something like cooliris... no need to go fullscreen now, GREAT!!

So it did end up working well overall for me, the one thing that really hurt the end-user experience was the streaming bitrate. At 600Kbps it was pretty much unwatchable due to poor quality, at 1400Kbps that was the bare minimum. 2300-3450 (max) was really good, not as good as the Flash-based streaming you'd get from something like Fox watching 24 or ABC watching Lost, but definitely as good or better than Hulu. This makes sense of course since that 3450Kbps is streaming 2x images so the effective bandwidth for each is half, so the quality of each image would be half as well.

Overall the race was boring however lol, I was nodding off after 5-6 laps. Its a great idea but I would like to see some more mainstream/engaging events broadcast in 3D. World Cup would've been great but it seems ESPN has their own 3D package/plans going for that. They're also planning MLB's All-Star game and Home Run Derby in 3D. Maybe Nvidia can get some arrangements for ESPN to stream online, they already have ESPN3 so ESPN3D would be perfect. /thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Also another bug I found is that the Silverlight player doesn't disengage the stereo driver correctly. The receiver still has the bright green light, one of the glass lenses still flickers and Windows Aero doesn't turn back on even after closing out the Silverlight player.

It was streaming great in my location of Chatsworth, CA (near LA) so I had no problems there. Agree that the race was a bit boring; probably why I don't follow NASCAR. Yeah, too bad we couldn't get any World Cup games streamed. I'm sure Nvidia looked into it.

Same situation here with Silverlight not disengaging and returning out of windows basic. Once I switched SLI back on it reset itself.
