Let them hear us before it's too late. The Avatar release is only a few days away, we need to be able to play the game since we paid a handsome amount for all this hardware on the account of the 3DVision initiative. Who knows Nvidia may really be serious about locking out CRT, SamsungDLP and the likes, it has happened before when they dropped XP support without any warnings. Let's voice up guys.

I don't think even nVidia would be that stupid although, let's face it, they do have past form in deliberately killing support for previously functional 3D solutions. I still tend towards the theory that the problems with 1.17 are more a result of a kokup than a conspiracy, however.

I've already contacted customer support directly about this issue but haven't had a reply yet. If/when I do receive one, I'll post it here. I defintitely think it's worthwhile for as many people as possible to raise this with them, however. The more people who do so, the more likely they are to sort the problem out quickly.

1.16 and 1.17 release notes claim (wrongly) that they support generic CRTs / DLPs etc. so it appears that these drivers are just stupid accidents rather than deliberate lock-outs but as the preceding post suggests nvidia needs to be told and some of there less than competent staff re-orientated or relocated.

lets get rid of the thought that they are dumping crt or dlps
in a previous driver this same issue happend ( while ago )
these drivers are just not very good, nvidias trying to do a lot with their drivers right now as they are doing gpu flash 3dvision their regular updates etc
they really need to get their act together though because i really hate checking to see if the new drivers even detects my 1200 $ display or not when it should..

I just got 3D Vision a month ago because of the displays it supported (specifically CRTs, 3D Projectors) and to play Avatar. Now they are dicking around with dropping those displays support? This is the second driver in a row that has had reports of not detecting CRTs and DLPs. I have a CRT and it was a giant PIA to uninstall and install new drivers to find out it doesn't work suddenly anymore.. then have to revert back to 1.13 when 1.16 came out. I'm just lucky cravenmild posted on the official Avatar forum before I downloaded and installed 1.17 about the problem.
I just ordered a projector screen and was this | | close to ordering the Viewsonic PJD6210 (which I heard those projectors aren't getting detected now w/ these new drivers) so I'm glad I'm such a cheap-ass waiting for the price to go down even more if it saved me from getting a completely incompatible product. I'm not buying a tiny-ass 22" monitor for $300 just to use these glasses. Is this some deal with these companies?
Whether its a bug or intended - get it sorted and quit pissing off the people that are advocates of your 3D product. If it's a bug, that's a MOTHER of a f***-up and you can see the reaction it's creating.
Sorry to be so firm and strait-forward, but I don't expect this from such an established company - especially right before THE ONE GAME that is made for 3D releases.
