3D Vision Surround for total immersion.
Mikemav3's new Surround rig uses the middle PJ in landscape with two different PJs for the sides in portrait, so I don't think he can do 3D with Nvidia anymore

And the good news just keep on coming, and this says it all :D
"So, I did. It was awesome. It was the standard developer kit, and I loved the immersion. I went from being a super high-res fan, to immersion fan within seconds. There was a "screen door" effect, because of the low-res 1280x800-pixel display mounted inside of the Rift headset, but the immersion... oh man, the immersion, was bloody awesome."

looks great but that setup has to be really expensive, and I can imagine it will be hard to install
No idea if this works, but pretty simple if it does.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi8QVubdjW4
Not a very good idea, if you are going to use Red/Cyan it's actually really important to get the color to exactly match the screen, otherwise you get wicked ghosting. Free paper red/cyan glasses will work better than this (at least for YouTube).

Anybody have any longer term test reports for Oculus Rift?
I agree with one and all that it makes a killer first impression. I'm less sure that it has legs. For what it's worth, I don't use my Rift much at all, it's just too primitive compared to 3D Vision.

Do you see the OR as having potential success for the future, or do you think it'll fade?
I forsee the rift to be a great platform for First Person games. 3D Vision does a terrific job with 3rd person games. I do play some FPS with 3D vision, but I have shorter play periods with First Person, not as immersive as 3RD person for me. Nothing matches the toyification effect you get in 3RD person games, something about viewing minature worlds from an isometric view fascinate me. If the price point of the consumer version of the Rift is reasonable, I can see myself owning the Rift for First Person games and 3D Vision for 3RD person. Seems like the Rift is on the right track and I hope it gives us new and amazing game experiences. With all the crappy games being released recently, the industry needs something new and fresh, I hope games designed specifically for the Rift takes us there. I believe the right people (i.e John Carmack) will propel it forward.

I'm kind of curious how they plan to make money back that they are spending. I dunno, its a lot of resources.
Like consoles sell hardware / "utilities"[controllers/memory cards/ whatnot]/ Make a % on game sold on platform / etc
Rift just at the moments makes money on hardware. I'm curious what their long term solution is. I really doubt they will start charging developers [cause then they wouldnt get support]. Im just confused at where this money will come from. Like they are spending investor money, not actual profit.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally it really depends on many things Rift success. It is a terrible time frame to be honest. I personally feel PC gaming is going to hit a bit of a depression. Two new consoles with no piracy [for a while] vs a cesspool of piracy. *Shrug* I wonder what their gameplan for profit is.

Good point, they're going to have to sell a tonne of them to even break even. Maybe their plan is to get its popularity up, so gamers demand and expect it, and then change devs.

It seems to me that even they don't know how or where to make a profitable business. Palmer has said specifically that they aren't sure they'll make a profit, and they aren't particularly interested this early. More along the lines of the current Internet investing of "we'll figure it out later." Palmer is focused upon making VR real, and will spend the investor money. The investors are taking a flyer on something with incredible word of mouth, but won't be surprised if it fades again.
Do you see the OR as having potential success for the future, or do you think it'll fade?
I totally can't tell. Current experience is not that great compared to competing products, and the future is the future and very hard to predict. I know we all want it to succeed.
Latency is mostly OK when done properly. Two biggest problems are resolution stretched out so far, and the smearing from 60Hz screens. To solve those, you need an incredibly high DPI screen, like 1000 dpi, and at the same time an incredibly high 240Hz refresh. Not impossible, but it's a very steep wall.
If pressed, my prediction is that it will ultimately succeed, but it will take a lot longer than anyone expects or wants.
