Dominant Eye setting
Is there anything in the works to allow us to select which eye is our dominant eye? I just got a 3D monitor and I'm loving it but the biggest problem I have is nVidia is assuming everyone is right-eye dominant. I have a small blind spot directly in the center of my right eye so I'm left eye dominant. It's a bit distracting when in Warcraft for example I move the mouse cursor from the game world to the toolbars and it's offset from where it appears to me it should be - because it's lining up where the cursor is for the right eye and not the left.

I have no recent experience in WoW but last time I checked the 3D cursor in DX9 was pretty good and if the cursor is at correct depth it should hover over the same spot for both eyes.

A 2D Cursor would stay att screen depth and you would never see two mouse cursors when you look at the screen without glasses.

That would be a great feature. I could finally use iron sights in fps titles at a depth that I normally like to use.

Tridef allows you to do that, you can download a trial and try it out.

Did you get it to work on 3d vision hardware? I've always wanted to give tri-def a shot just to see what the differences were.

You'd have "stack" them both if you want to use 3d vision hardware I believe. Which will hurt fps/

Without it, I can't play Diablo 3 in 3D because the right eye cursor is the actual targeting cursor so it's extremely difficult to click on objects when I'm looking at where the cursor lines up for the left eye.

No offence regarding diablo 3,

I have pushed it to 100% depth and the actual targeting area when targeting NPCs are right in between the left eye and the right eye view of that caracter making it next to impossible to target anything regardless of right-eye/left-eye dominance. Compared to any kind of 3D Cursor implementation this makes the game unplayable at high depth on a small screen.

Can you name an example wheree the right eye is correct and the left eye is significantly wrong?

Everywhere. The only time the left eye IS correct (regarding the mouse cursor) is in a game like Warcraft when using the software cursor that is rendered instead of overlayed. Even then, if you open a pane (like the character sheet or the quest log - any pane all) then move your mouse over it from the right side the left mouse cursor will reach the pane but it will not appear over the pane until the right eye cursor reaches it.

In any game where the mouse cursor is unable to be rendered (SWTOR) the position of the mouse cursor ONLY considers the right eye view. So if there's a target in the 3D world you want to click on, you have to put the mouse cursor over where you see it with your right eye.

You can easily see it by putting your mouse over a target and closing your left eye. The mouse with be over the target. Then close your right eye. The mouse will be to the right of the target. Try leaving your right eye closed and putting the mouse over the target now. Most of the time the right eye image (the one that is being used by the game) will be so far off that you can no longer select that target by clicking it, even though the left eye image shows the mouse directly over it.

It seems like this should be a very easy fix. All they need to do is render the opposite frame first, that will be the one the game uses with the mouse cursor position.

Havent tried it but I think this is what you want.

Diablo 3 is pretty playable if you take off you 3d glasses and adjust convergence till character model appears 2d. Have you tried that?

I just tried some WoW and the 3D cursor behaves quite well when pointed at the world with both left and right eye cursor pointing at the same spot.

The cursor also work the same on top of the game UI which is at screen depth.

The cursor behaves very weird when moving between world depth and UI depth so when moving to and from ui there needs to be an additional movement of 1cm for the mouse pointer to completely disappear from on top of ui in both eyes. This affects both right eye and left eye views and is affected by if you enter the ui item from left or right direction.

The diablo 3 2D cursor is equally bad for right and left eye.

"Everywhere."

Uhhh, no. Take the glasses off and look. In the vast majority of games, the pointer is rendered right at screen depth putting it exactly between the two images. You've got trouble wichever eye is dominant whenever the depth of the pointer is much different than the depth of the object you are clicking. In my honest opinion, it's the worst problem with 3D Vision drivers.

We've been begging for it for years now but nothing has happened.

So it sounds like it's not lined up for the right eye either? Hard for me to tell really.
You're right about WoW. The cursor is rendered perfectly in the game world. It just shifts when you try to move it into the UI. It uses the position that your right eye sees.

I'm going to have to try that with Diablo 3. I've been playing it in 2D just because it's such a pain to click on stuff but with this sizable investment in a 3D monitor and considering how amazing the 3D looks, that would be great if that convergence trick will work.

I gave tri-def a try-out but didn't see any improvement and couldn't find the option or documentation on the option for Shift One Eye. I'll have to re-install and try again with the information from that link.

I also just tried again and looked really closely. The click target is indeed half way between the mouse cursors for each eye! I can't believe nVidia is going to let themselves be outdone by an upstart such as Tri-Def.

The convergence trick with Diablo 3 is awesome. It looks amazing and you can click on what you want. The only trouble is the shadows when you go into a cave type area. Outside the shadows are perfect. Underground, not so much. Other than that it looks great.
