A single GTX480 SC -or- 2 GTX470s in SLI for 3D Vision?
  1 / 2
I can only afford to get either a single GTX480 or two GTX470s in SLI for 3D Vision gaming. If I got a 480 now, it would be at least 6-8 months before I could get another for SLI. So which would be better right now for 3D gaming with the latest games? TIA!

GTX 480.
I'm using single Zotac AMP Geforce GTX 480 for 3 D Vision gaming and am very happy with its performance.
GTX 470 SLI may give you better performance, but I say " Why go backwards ??"
Buy GTX 480 now and buy 1 more later on if you must go SLI !

Hi I'm new here but I have 2 480's in sli and have played most of the latest game's with the 3D and tbh I would probably get the 480, So long as you case has good airflow.

I've also heard good thing's about the 460's in SLI two 460's in SLI will beat a single 480 so I'm told.

Two 470s will be faster than a single 480 (nvidia has done a really good job on SLI scaling recently), but obviously two 480s will be faster than two 470s. Keep in mind that while you can upgrade a 480 to 480SLI, you can't upgrade 470SLI to 480SLI! In my experience, A single 480 will produce at least playable framerates, if not 60fps, for pretty much anything on near full settings at 2x1080p right now. So I'd go for that as to let you upgrade to a 480SLI config later, when there might be more games that can take full advantage of it.

I am in slight of a predicament myself. I have 2 GTX 285s at the moment. Not that interested in DX11 only games but was thinking of an upgrade. I can barely afford either 1 GTX 480 or maybe 2 GTX 470s, what would you guys suggest, based on what I'm coming from?

If you have plenty to spare like me ,it's no problem....

No, you would need to go to 3D Surround to notice any difference.

Assuming you are overclocking, SLI 470's can handle anything right now for one screen.
