Unearned Expectations in the 3D Community
  1 / 2
I just wanted to point out a worrying trend I've noticed, and I think I've possibly participated in to some extent. There is an excellent group of programmers in this community who have put in countless hours to make video games, a hobby we all share, more enjoyable to us through 3D fixes. I'm incredibly thankful for their work, and they've provided me a level of immersion and wow-factor in games that I wouldn't have had otherwise. The problem is that this is seeming to become more of an expectation of the talented developers, rather than an appreciation. Looking at the Fallout 4 thread, there are people not just hopeful for a 3D fix, but expectant of one. There are people who treat these fixes and releases as an inevitability, and fail to recognize that they come to be through a lot of dedicated work. I think that it would be good for people to reflect on where they stand in this, and to be sure to be legitimately thankful towards those who create fixes because they have lives as well, and they're taking time out of it to share something with us all. It sucks for a really anticipated new release to come without 3D support, but the responsibility for 3D support doesn't rest on the great developers of this communities shoulders. So next time you're thinking of posting and barraging for hopes of a 3D fix, try to remember that there are people there making it happen, how much they've done for the community already, and show some gratitude for their work.

I'm not a programmer, but I do my best to contribute with what ever is possible for me, and many others do the same.. As I said - you're right - show the guys some respect - they've earned it !!!!!!

@Alo81: And that's how we lost Eqzitara and probably why Helix decided to drop out:) Honestly I can perfectly understand it... You know what is funny though... that even if some of us drop out and decided not to make any fix this doesn't mean necessary we'll stop making fixes... We'll just make one quick for us and not share it. From personal experience making a fix for me takes a couple of hours if everything goes smooth. Releasing one takes around 6 more cause I have to test all possible combinations and crap to be sure it works for everyone... I could just drop it and say if it works it works if not, don't care:) But, yes some people kinda forget what it takes to make a fix in the first place and in some of the newer users communicate with an arrogance in their tone like we are the game's developer and we failed to "deliver to their expectations" or something... Anywho...

I know what you mean, but I don't feel like I've seen more of it than usual lately. There was one person in the Fallout 4 thread who was getting a little ahead of themselves, but they seemed more excited than rude to me. For the most part, it looks like people are being fairly respectful, and grateful for the hard work put in by our fixers. Looking through recent threads for new titles, the majority of posters are asking about the current state of 3D in those titles, talking about how to get CM working, sharing screenshots, and co-ordinating on fixes. You get the occasional person asking directly if anyone's working on a fix, but I think people have been fairly good about not getting pushy, or expecting a fix. It's absolutely not okay for people to demand or expect fixes for every game, but the overall level of that seems to be at a fairly low level compared to what I've noticed in the past. Of course, that's coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't feel pressured when people ask for/about fixes, as I've only done a couple and don't tend to tackle high-profile stuff. I'm fully prepared to admit that I'm wrong if our fixers are feeling like they're under too much pressure, and/or people are being too demanding.

One thing is simple yet the most important, without these members 3D vision would have be dead, or almost (99%) dead to be honest. Millions of thank you to you guys! There will be some games for which may not be a possible fix, or it will be a fix with some effects disabled etc, again everything is for free to community and all other PC gamers who aren't even members here so please accept another million of thanks from their behalf..!!

I think Eqzitara stopped participating but he didn`t left Forum. He still visiting Us and probably he enjoys Fixed games as we speak. Helix got some job offer and that didn`t let him carry on this hobby - at least that was our understanding after a few conversations with him and others who message with him. I might be completely wrong and misleading so you know....my memory I will blame on.

I can not contribute on the fixes and im trying not to spam in a thread when there is ppl actually solving problems. Those demanding dudes, probably don't realise how time consuming are those fixes even for skilled programmers and not to forget that most of the guys are working on several titles simultaneously.

I should think there are boat loads more people appreciative and respectful of these fixes than not to be honest. no one would do anything if rude comments were taken seriously, lets face it there are a lot of ignorant people out there. All I can say is just from reading this forum I can tell the massive respect directed towards these guys, the OP highlights this. we know how these fixes effect our enjoyment of a game, those that dont get that should be ignored.

I, along with others, greatly appreciate the deep and varied technical talents of this forum's key contributors. Through their altruistic team efforts, they have kept 3D gaming alive this year - and generated revenue for NVIDIA through GPU upgrades (required to play immersive 3D with the latest DX11 games)...

This community is one of the best I've ever seen. Kind of comparable to a small indie game where most of the people involved are there from the pure passion for the game. People might feel entitled being exposed to the glorious fixes this community provides but they should always keep in mind that all of them are offered by the good will of those fixing the games. I would like to thank everybody that ever made a fix and decided to publish and share it with the others, I know for sure I would play a lot less if it wasnt for you guys.

I know if it wasn't for the community fixes, my new GPU might have been another Radeon, since I have no use for GeForce Experience, Shadow Play, Shield Streaming or G-Sync. But 3D Vision working in games will be the thing that keeps us all in the Green Camp. Thank all of you for coding wrappers, making fixes, testing them, sharing 3D with friends,or in whatever way that you contribute. Becoming more of an expectation? Sure at times some posts may be that way, but a lot of it seems to passion driven. Once you've been bitten, you're eternally smitten.

I guess it's normal if people feel it's an expectation (and people always seem grateful and respectful, from what I've seen for a year), at least for popular games. It only takes a few interested and passional fans that coincidentally have some programming understanding, a 3D Vision setup and time to spare, to make the fix start happening. Statistics, I guess :p.

I would have to say, that although there is some of that, and I've voiced a few times, maybe ahead of myself in pushing for one. I think this is overall one of the better message board communities I have ever been a part of. I think for the most part people are pretty respectful, and grateful. I wouldnt say I have seen more of it. Also It seems eqzitara appeared more frustrated with nvidia and lack of support than anything else but I could be wrong. After starting to delve into this myself I am even more appreciative of the work that goes into this stuff. But for what it's worth. I'll say once again, if it wasn't for 3dvision and the community here keeping it alive I probably would have given up on gaming a couple of years back. So my deepest gratitude to everyone involved.
