Should probably check out Last Remnant. I personally though combat was blah but my interest in JRPGs have dwindled over past decade. [I like Strategy JRPG's though].

I'm still playing Valkyra Chronicles with your nice fix, it's a great game, wich other Strategy JRPG's do you have in mind ?

I was going to start a new thread, but I'm glad that I found this one :). I was already trying to make a fix. I talked to Kaldaien, the Tales of Zestiria Fix maker (http://steamcommunity.com/app/351970/discussions/0/490123938441506815/), and now the helixmod dll is compatible with it. That means 60fps, mipmaps, custom opening video, increased shadow resolution, etc. Rename the helixmod dll to something else, like "visiond3d9.dll", and then open "d3d9.ini" and paste this:
[Import.visiond3d9] Architecture=Win32 Filename=visiond3d9.dll When=Proxy Role=d3d9
eqzitara, I was having problems with the "9C69D59B.txt" and alternatively its vertex shader, but you fixed it correctly (in a way I wouldn't have thought). It seemed a typical haloing problem, but the stereo correction in the texcoord broke the effect totally. Shadows were at a weird depth and there was haloing in the main character. I fixed that haloing in the vertex shader ("C9220046.txt") and that put shadows at screen depth. So I think it was a step in the good direction. I thought about doing something different about the HUD and interface. I made an HUD depth hotkey for all elements, including the hard to catch title animation. I don't use "SkipSetScissorRect = true" because that causes text clipping in menus. The only side effect of not using it is clipping in the minimap at high HUD depths. I have also not disabled any HUD element. Here is the fix I have for now (shadows at screen depth. I have only used two pixel shaders from eqzitara, which fix a pair of effects): https://www.dropbox.com/s/gawoh95lggy1w4a/zestiria_3d_pre_fix1.7z?dl=0 F1: high convergence. F2: low convergence (for cutscenes). F3: HUD depth hotkey. Screen depth by default. F1 and F2 presets are configurable with ctrl+F7, as usual. The "d3d9.dll" is already called "visiond3d9.dll" there, prepared to use with the fps fix when you paste the code above.

The character haloing isn't there anymore, now that I notice. It must be one of the shaders eqzitara fixed. Here is the fix again, with shadows in a state that isn't perfect (it doesn't look too bad, and it may be better than no shadows), but at least it isn't at screen depth: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6fonq26xuuqkyh1/zestiria_3d_pre_fix2.7z?dl=0 That's until I figure out how to fix them for real. I have also disabled cloud shadows for now, because they are distracting (screen depth). Edit: I've seen extra effects that need fixing just as I continued playing. I'll upload a new version later today.
Thanks masterotaku! I'm going to buy this soon! Have you played this compared to other tales? What do you think of it?
You are welcome! I have completed Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube 11 years ago, and partially played Tales of the Abyss. Other than playing those two games, I have read the manga of Symphonia and Xillia. For now I'm liking Zestiria and its combat system. I usually get easily distracted, but I have been playing it today non stop. By the way, the game is very CPU demanding with draw distance and LOD at max settings. My fps can be as slow as 38fps in 3D at the first big city of the game (usually ranging from 40 to 50 fps, and sometimes at 60fps). Reducing those settings bring performance back to a minimum of 50fps in my case. In other normal areas, I get 60fps all the time. That city is not the norm. And here is the third version of the fix: https://www.dropbox.com/s/00jhtpkueg6j43a/zestiria_3d_pre_fix3.7z?dl=0 Fixed: - Water reflections (I don't know if there will be more shaders like this one later on). - A wave effect that had haloing.
But if you think there could be a chance for you to fix the shadows properly I'll wait a little longer though...
The biggest problem is that by default, characters shadows are very low resolution, so if the fix is a bit inaccurate, it's hard to tell. I can use the debug dll alongside the fix that increases shadow resolution, but alt+tabbing crashes the game with that combination. I could use a laptop to avoid that (which isn't mine and is noisy), but for now I'm progressing though the game and fixing other effects (I have fixed another one a few minutes ago). I'm 6 or 7 hours of played time into the game, so there is a lot to see.
with 3d migoto.
This game is DX9. It doesn't use 3Dmigoto. It uses the Helixmod "d3d9.dll", which in this case I have renamed to "visiond3d9.dll". Remember adding the
[Import.visiond3d9] Architecture=Win32 Filename=visiond3d9.dll When=Proxy Role=d3d9
code in the "d3d9.ini" file. If you update Kaldaien's fix, remember that you have to paste that code again. It's also a good idea to use "TZT.exe" to configure the mod. Remember to give RTSS a delay of a few seconds there, or else some games will crash at boot (I learned it the hard way).
What version are you using?
1.4.9 and 1.5.0 (I have just updated it) work for me. Here is a new version, by the way: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cib22w2fyiq5epx/zestiria_3d_pre_fix4.7z?dl=0 It fixes one more effect that I've seen just once and for two seconds.

Sorry, i mean Helixmod. Yep, well tried 1.4.9 and 1.5.0 and the game is not launching, logs in log folder says everything it's ok... last version working for me it's 1.4.6 .... damn. Will play only with helix dll as it works, but at 30 fps cap T_T Gracias compañero !

It does a lot more than making the game work at 60fps. Mipmaps and shadow resolution are important too for graphics quality. If it keeps not working, you could post the logs and contact Kaldaien in the Steam thread.

New version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mqlumzzl402vzar/zestiria_3d_pre_fix5.7z?dl=0 - F4 hotkey to toggle cel shading on characters, NPCs, monsters, etc. Not disabled by default. Whenever I fix the shadows, I'm afraid that it won't be soon. I don't have almost any clue about how to fix them. It's the C9220046.txt vertex shader, if anyone is interested. The pixel shader is either too short and useless, or I didn't catch the right one. At least they aren't too bad (what I did, fixed clipping).
