Modifying 3D Vision to support SBS

I wouldn't expect much, if not anything from Nvidia regarding that issue https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/809649/3d-vision/please-add-hdmi-2-0-support-to-3dtv-play-/ Their executives made it very clear there are no update plans for 3DTV Play.

After some testing , it turns out that a custom resolution of 1440p downsampled to 720p frame packed looks better than SBS or OU 3D on my benq w1070 projector. Still a really nice option to have though. Will test 1080p downsampled to 720p frame packed tonight since the performance hit will be the same as OU 1080p.

joker18 ,CeeJayII: which EDid Override do you use with projo W1300 ? Thx for the feedback CeeJayII ! it's the info i was waiting for ; no need to bother so ! Perhaps, if TB is better than SBS , in Elite Dangerous , it'll be cool to have this option ... i'm dreaming ;)

I didn't know about this software. Still Technically you are not playing at 1440p or 1080p, nor close to that. The no of pixels your projector outputs is the same, this is just another method of antialiasing.

No we aren't but it is a dramatic improvement. If you're gonna try it, I had to set my custom resolution to 2560x1441 to get my projector to accept the signal. I use the acer override myself.

Regarding witcher 3 - tried modifying shaders to always use value 5, instead of cycling with the key - still no go. So it seems some other reason for that not working - maybe some game/nvpanel setting or maybe driver version.

Here's what I do using the Acer EDID on my Benq. I go to nvidia control panel and set the resolution to 720p 120hz. Then I choose customization -> create a custom resolution. Under the timings section, change the dropdown that says automatic to manual. Now I change the resolution at the top of the screen to 2560x1441(it doesn't accept 1440). Save the resolution and it's available in game for 3D. I've used this rather than the actual DSR feature cause I read about issues with it when it first came out and haven't revisited. I'm assuming the resulting image is about the same

Another benefit to doing it manually, is that you can apply it to your desktop resolution. This will allow you to use the higher resolution for video playback that may or may not look better depending on the projector and how it processes the video input. I've been doing this for years with my 720P PLED-W500 and for me, it's a huge improvement because the DMD mirror array is diamond orientated and it uses a conversion algorithm to process the image. Works great with SVP for interpolation.

Interesting method... Thanks for the tip Using this I created a custom resolution starting from 1080p and made it 2560x1440. It allows me to turn on 3D with Chekerboard so I can use TB. DSR is not allowed but this works PS: I tried also the 720p supersampled. It is indeed smooth but I just can't handle the lack of detail.

You can use higher resolutions at lower refresh rates when play in 2D. Unfortunately, Nvidia limits the resolution when using 120 Hz, there's a patch by ToastyX that unlocks the pixel clock and allows a little more wiggle room. Like on my PLED-W500, I could use 3840x2160@30 to gain screen real estate in games that would allow it when playing in 2D. I haven't tried it with my 980ti, I'm sure I could get 60Hz now.
