GTA IV - Episodes from Liberty City looks good in 3D?

It's not about Nvidia taking 3D to mainstream, it's about the future. There's no turning back anymore, 3D is now mature, it's the present and the future. There's not a chance that 3D won't go mainstream, off course it will. Not this year, but maybe next year or for sure the folowing year. It might take some time, but eventually 3D will take over and change the way we watch TV, movies and play games. 3D is the next big thing since colour TV. Whoever doesn't see that way is either blind or stupid.
I do agree that 3D vision needs a lot of tweaking to get even better this next months, but going mainstream is the future and Nvidia knows that. 3D will take over once consoles such as PS3 become S3D capable. It's just a matter of time.

S3D gamers no longer need shadows. I am in a room with diffused lighting and I cant really even see my shadow. On the one or two sunny days we have in the UK I never really notice them either and when i do they look very different to the ones in games. Shadows in games are highly inaccurate. Farcry2 shadows for instance are a joke. I actually think the old blob ones are more lifelike (if you are a UK resident anyway) Also 3D games should not, repeat not, have DoF on for obvious reasons.
Look at my screenies of GTA4. That is with shadows off and it looks the dong! As I said cars seem to have a basic road shadow anyway.

It enables you to play without connecting into the Windows Live network. I only have a q6600 and GTX260, with 4 GB RAM and like many other I got a noticable FPS boost with it off. I am not sure if it will run in Steam but it wont hurt to try right?
edit
I play with 100% depth and convergence set to just behind Niko, so I just start to get the cool scaletrix effect. :)

Agreed
It looks great driving about in the c'ckpits and because the camera follows the view more closely, it helps your friends who want to try it out but cant look and drive independantly. Burning about on motor bikes is amazing - wow! (you need to trick the game so you dont wear a helmet when you mount the bike otherwise you see the helmet and its horrid in S3D)
Unfortunately I notice a significant loss of frames a good 4-5 FPS when I was in the c'ckpit view etc and that meant FPS of 25 at times which is not cool.
However once I upgrade to a Fermi. That mod will be the very first thing I put on!

Are you guys talking about GTA IV Episodes From Liberty City or the original game?? Let's talk about the DLC new version.
Someone said something about Niko, forget about Niko, that's a character from the original version, now there are new guys.
It gets confused, cause GTA IV has tons of mods and patches and they might not work with the DLC version, so let's focus comments here on the DLC version.
This Xliveness mod are the same as the FPS mods you guys are talking about?? Is it only for the original version or it also works for the DLC version?? I have Steam version, It might not work.
Please give sugestions of mods and stuff that will make the S3D experience better for this game, but I mean the DLC (Episodes from Liberty City) version, not GTA IV original game.

I just got my copy from walmart, checking out the instructions and making room on the pc for this beast size game. Best part (drum roll )........ CO-OP mode!!! 2-8 players, i dont know how it will work or if its even in both games yet. Once it get it installed and running will report back. My system is pretty slow so i dont expect much but if i get what the ps3 offers for graphics and speed (really was not that good) i will be happy. I will list my windows user name for friends lists and co-op games once i log in and remeber it lol.

I have just tried GTA IV EFLC and I can say it rocks big time in 3D. 3D support is way better than what I was expecting. All the cut scenes are in 3D, but watch out sometimes you will need to tweak convergence settings a bit less in order to see those cut scenes without crossing your eyes. I mean, this only happens when the characters are to close to the screen and as this game was not designed for 3d, so this kind of thing happens, but no worries, those are just small issues. The cut scenes are just amazing in 3D, they look fantastic and gives life to the characters, scenarios and enviroment. There are some ghosting in the cut scenes, but I've seen worst in other games.
I am at work now and I only had half an hour free to test the game in 3D at home. It looks amazing and during regular gameplay there's a not single issue I could tell. You can use 50% depth and more if you want with a bit of convergence and it looks great. I think there's no need to tweak convergence as the game already plays with some noticeable pop out effects with 3D enabled. The character is already to close to the screen and depends on the angle you are, he gets out the screen and it looks really cool.
If you increase convergence you might get the cross eye issue in the cut scenes like I mentioned above. But it depends on the actual cut scene.
I turned off shadows, set distance view to 70%, detail distance 80% and traffic density to 70% all the rest maximized. The game is superb in 3D, you just can't compare it to 2D. PS3 owners, now there's not even a chance to compare this game with the console versions. 3D gives life to this game, the depth and shape that 3D Vision gives to the enviroments are amazing. The game looks very good in 3D considering it doesn't have a profile.
I manage to play at the above settings with 3D vision enabled with an average of 45 frames, with lows at 30 and max at 60 fps. Pretty damn good.
I'm still not sure if the game works well with SLI. But it runs a lot better than the original version I can say that for sure.
Playing with 3D disable and SLI enabled I was getting a much higher fps average with lows at 50 and max at 100 frames.
Anyway The SLI indicator was on in the Nvidia control panel but it didn't appear while running GTA IV EFLC , so I'm not sure if it works, but considering the frames I was gettings I think it actually works. At night when I get home I will disable SLI and see if the FPS will drop considerably.
All I can say is that my first impressions were very good. The game rocks in 3D, its a must have and GTA IV is probally one of the best games ever made, the story is close to a motion picture. It's gonna be fun to play the game in 3D. I finished the original version in 2D almost a year ago and I had a lot of fun for almost 3 months just playing this game, using mods, Asi, and all kinds of stuff.
The only thing that worries me is if the game is actaully stable. In my first attemp to run the game through Steam I had a crash. GTA IV EFLC Has stopped working. Then I tried other times and had no issues. I hope it was just a bad start, but it's soon to know that, I only played like 30 minutes. Who doesn't remind all the stability problems the original GTA IV brought to PC a year ago.
With 2 great games such as GTA IV DLC and Just Cause 2 to play with 3D Vision I guess I'll have to deal with my girlfriend.
