FPS drop even without stereo 3D running!
I was trying to figure out why my new GTX280 was benchmarking so poorly (with 3D turned off by selecting "hide" when game starts). It turns out that even without running stereoscopic effects (by disabling them via hotkey or choosing the "hide effects when game starts" option), there is a huge FPS drop as long as "Enable stereoscopic 3D" option in the control panel is checked (allowing u to use Ctrl-T or other hotkey to enable the effects). I guess the drop is because the game is somehow rendered to be 3D-ready, so that you can quickly enable 3D via a hotkey.

Crysis benchmark was only 10-11 FPS (without stereo 3D effects) when the "Enable stereoscopic 3D" checkbox is marked. Unchecking this box (or removing the stereo driver) brings me to 24 FPS on the same benchmark!!!! Note that in both cases, i did NOT actually run the 3D effects, so it's not the framerate drop due to using 3D vision actively. If i actually Ctrl-T it and enable the effects, that 10 FPS figure drops to 6 FPS.

Crysis looks pretty bad in 3D Vision for me, because of insane ghosting, so now I know that each time i want to play crysis without 3D vision and with good FPS, i have to manually go into Ctrl panel and uncheck the "enable" box. Simply not running the effects (Via Ctrl-T or "hide when starts") is insufficient to prevent the FPS drop!

Correct, you must disable the option in the control panel to actually turn it off. I wonder if nV will be changing that ever. Doesn't matter much to me though, I barely ever turn it off anymore. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />
