We need substantially more single core performance. I get ~42fps in crowded areas of Yakuza 0 (but more than 120fps in 2D, tsk).

8700k @ 5.0 GHz Actual here. I am still CPU necked in GTA 5 with 3D Vision activated in most areas of Los Santos. This isn't the only game that exhibits a severe CPU bottleneck, I'm also necked in XCOM 2 (actual missions) and certain areas of Rise of the Tomb Raider (Geothermal Valley). Also necked in certain outposts in Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain. 9900k will allegedly flirt with 5.5 GHz with an overclock and, although it has been rumored before, will be soldered. I had to pay to have my 8700k delidded / TIM replaced with Liquid Metal (Silicon Lottery, who also binned it). That they may come like this and that it will be back-ward compatible with existing Z370 boards makes a 9900k upgrade a near certainty after upgrading to 1180 Ti for me. .5 GHz is a massive leap in performance. We haven't been to 5.5 GHz yet.

A solid video with proper data. Apparently, AMD have developed a modern 4 core RyZen for cost sensitive Chinese console market. https://www.anandtech.com/show/13153/amd-creates-quad-core-zen-soc-with-24-vega-cus-for-chinese-consoles This gives credence to the beliefs that both PS5 and XBox(Two?) will both be using Zen cores with a high core count. It looks like the next gen consoles will have a significant jump in CPU performance, though intriguingly, not such a huge projected jump in GPU performance. What this means for us is that squeezing every GHz will count because the 3DV CPU bug will likely cause havoc in the next gen titles designed to run on the latest Zen, but ported to PC 3DV. i.e. Just imagine games designed for 8C16T RyZen aimed to run 30-60fps on consoles, and then limited to only ~3 cores on PC 3DV no matter what one tried. Not to sound alarmist, but in many ways that might spell the death of 3DV :( Let's hope nVidia develop a better 3DV driver...

You seem very knowledgeable with 3D Vision, care to elaborate on why it's limited to 60 Hz and if that will ever change? Thanks.

Edit: Why is your 5820k only at stock clocks? I don't know about you but a lot of my games exhibit 3 Core bug and are CPU bottlenecked. 5820k can do 4.5 GHz, if you have bottlenecks, that's probably the reason.

It amuses me to great hights when people think glasses free 3d is somehow gonna make 3d hip again. Yeah it might greatly improve the situation but its not a magic Remedy.

Chuckle away all you want but in order for 3D to obtain mass consumer adoption, it’s vital IMO. Wearing glasses is the sole reason it never took off on a large scale. If the glasses aren’t the reason why 3D flopped, why else didn’t it take off? Is It that 3D is just shit tech general then? :D
