Constant flickering in wow but only after I login. Login screen is flawless. Tried it with all mods disabled, wow repaired. Tried 4 different drivers, no luck. It's still flickering.
All I play is wow and I just wasted $1200 for a gtx 295, monitor and glasses when my old setup played it just as well (fps) without the stereo 3d.
If this can't be fixed it's all going back (one way or another) and I'll never leave ati again.
I too was plagued by the flashes/flickering in WoW when I first got my glasses a month or so ago, so i really had to experiment with the video settings. What has worked out better for me was reducing the ground clutter density and radius settings to about 25% or so and the shadow setting to the one just one click from the left. I have all other settings maxed out. This reduced the flashes/flickering quite a bit and gives me tolerable framerates. (I have dual GTX 280s)
I've also found that the flicker or losing sync is more of a problem in really bright, snowy areas or in areas with flickering light sources like New Agamand in Howling Fjord.
The 3D effect in WoW is incredibly cool when it is working right but it has been a bit unreliable and your framerates certainly take a hit.
I'm just hoping that the bright minds at Nvidia and Blizzard work together to resolve some of these problems. Another issue that arose with the last patch is that the software cursor setting which gave you a 3D cursor in WoW no longer works. It is now necessary to use hardware cursor.
Anyway, try adjusting your video settings like I described above and see if that helps you.

I was able to get it running with everything turned to the lowest possible settings but Dalaran still causes it flickers quite a bit. (The problem seems to be caused by CPU stress.)
Seems Vista 64 is limited to changing the monitor refresh rate via the wizard (control panel changes aren't carried out) and once wow was finally able to control the monitor refresh rate it's much easier to get a passable visual experience. I'm using 100hz now and starting to see what settings I can raise without stressing the CPU. For some reason it flashes the instant the CPU is stressed. I haven't contacted tech support at Nvidia yet but unless I really think my hardware is defective I don't think they will be much help. Maybe I'll see if some of the tech support guys at blizzard have had any luck setting these up.

I've noticed using the carbonite add-on (www.carboniteaddon.com) brings my 3D Vision framerate down from 45 to 15 ... quite the hit. It seems it's mostly the map that does it, but it's not 100% of the problem... if i hide the carbonite map my framerate goes back up to 35, but won't go back up to 45 until i disable carbonite altogether.
Without 3D Vision active Carbonite doesn't affect the framerate at all.
This is really unfortunate cus carbonite is pretty much the only *required* extension, imo. I would disable or throw any other extension to get 3D, but I need Carbonite. I hope the nvidia and carbonite devs can get together and figure this one out.

I do use curse client, but that's just an add-on manager. Carbonite is an add-on that does a dozen (or more) really useful things in-game... it's not a replacement for curse. Like I said, I could live without pretty much any add-on, or curse client.. but Carbonite is an absolute must for many people, especially if you are questing/leveling. I guess i'm just gonna have to play wow in 2D until they fix this incompatibility.

If it's all about questing you should try out QuestHelper.
I cannot imagine leveling without it anymore ;)

I agree, it's what I have been using for some time now. I have never tried the Carbonite addon, and from what I can see it may be best if I don't. :P
I'll stick with what I have, and use 3D. I would not let an addon keep me from it, I would rather not play WoW at all if that's the case.
Hi All,
Just a quick thread on this. If anyone is playing World of Warcraft and is experiencing slowdown or flickering, can you try disabling any in-game add-ons? We have found an issue with X-Perl UnitFrames that we know does cause flickering. http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/xperl.aspx
Let me know your results, thanks.
I have the same fps issues. I found that by hiding the UI, (using alt-z) frame rates go up to 30-45 depending on the zone. With the UI showing, it drops to 10 fps, and even less in Dalaran. If I open up my bank bags, filling the screen with 2d objects, the frame rate goes to 2-3. Turning off 3d, fps is 50-60.
I have tried turning off add-ons (including x-perl unitframes), and most have little effect (1-2fps). If I disable bartender, which displays up to 120 buttons, my Dalaran frame rate goes to 15-18, and drops to 6-7 if I open my bank bags.
It seems that the more screen real estate that is consumed by 2d objects, regardless of their source, the lower the fps.
AMD Phenom II x4 2.6ghz, GeForce 260, 4GB ram, Vista 64. I was hoping the Nvidia 182.85 and cd 1.08 drivers that came out yesterday (5/16/09) would help, but they didn't.
The latest nvidia patch did help with some depth issues with the menus you get from right-clicking chat, or player portrait, etc., but fps was unaffected.
It is frustrating that my 3d stereo performance was better with my old system, Athlon 64, GeForce 6800gt AGP and the 91.31 drivers and e-dimensional glasses. That system doesn't suffer these issues, so I think the issues with the "new" stereo setup should be able to be fixed through drivers.
Please let me know your thoughts about this.

My experience too, Phobon. Like I've said a couple posts back, Carbonite seems to slow down the 3D experience significantly, but that's probably just because it puts a significant amount of 2D stuff on the screen. I've noticed that closing bags or hiding the UI does speed up Vision 3D significantly, so this is most likely a problem with the drivers ... you shouldn't lose half your framerate just because things that aren't even rendering in 3D are on the screen.
I just hope the Blizz devs and the nVidia devs don't just write it off as the other guy's problem, and nothing get done about it.

Ok if your losing 1/2 or more fps with 3D on then its some mod your using. I had to send my cpu back to get a new one so I am using a X2 6000+ with a NV290. In Daleran ran all around the lowest I got 14fps when running other than that 23fps with all lol tons of people there. 3D off 23fps. 3D on 23fps. All video settings cranked but shadows at 3/4. All my mods on then no mods and nothing changed.

I experimented. I removed my add-ons folder and just put the Blizzard add-ons there. In Dalaran, without 3d, my fps is 84. With 3d, it drops to 42. Without 3d, if I open the bank, the fps doesn't change much-77?
If I open the bank bags with 3d on, it drops from 42 fps to 14 fps. That's with ultra video settings and 1x multi-sampling. I'm still getting the performance hit without add-ons. It's nice to know that I can get good fps rates somehow-now if only I can get them and be able to play the game too :P
I started playing wow yesterday, when i turn depth at max, i cannot see the whole text and map anymore,
can this be fixed.
Start off with "screen depth" at minimum, and "depth amount" at whatever you can tolerate (mine is max) in the WoW video settings. If the button bars and character frame are not viewable, it is probably your convergence. The Nvidia default adjustment for that is ctrl-F5 and ctrl-F6. With the glasses off, you should see the two images converge as you adjust, they are probably so far apart, they are off the screen. When you have 1 image of the buttons, they are at the surface of the screen. That is where I keep my convergence setting.
The "screen depth" is how far into the scene you want the screen. Higher screen depth means your character and other objects will be closer to you (between you and the monitor), and while this gives a cool look with the camera zoomed out, it is hard on the eyes to see something an inch from your nose, so I keep it pretty low most of the time.
I hope this helps.

Just a quick thread on this. If anyone is playing World of Warcraft and is experiencing slowdown or flickering, can you try disabling any in-game add-ons? We have found an issue with X-Perl UnitFrames that we know does cause flickering.

I just hope the Blizz devs and the nVidia devs don't just write it off as the other guy's problem, and nothing get done about it.

It's nice to know that I can get good fps rates somehow-now if only I can get them and be able to play the game too :P

can this be fixed.
