FPS cuts more then 1/2 in 3d for anyone?
  1 / 2
Ive always known FPS will be cut in around half for 3d. However I am not sure if its due to my 680 or drivers(I only have option of 2 atm). My FPS is being cut much more then 50%.

Ive experimented with mass effect 3 and witcher 2 by staring at a scene where fps dips and it remains stable as long as camera isnt adjusted. I am using a 680 non-sli @ 720p.
2D Mass effect 2 FPS- 120FPS
3D Mass effect 3 FPS- 50FPS

Witcher 2
2D FPS- 110FPS
3D FPS- 45FPS

Hmmm.. Dunno. You are only loosing a little more than half, and both are very playable (at least for me). But for all the hype the 680 is getting that does seem a little low. I can't tell you exactly what I'm getting in TW2 as I never run any monitoring programs or anything, but I'd wager it's very close to 45fps. That's what it feels like anyway. Moving the camera is by no means sluggish, but it's not as twitchy-quick as, say, 60fps, so I'm guessing it's somewhere in the 40s.

I dunno about you but my gaming background started in the late 90's when a Compaq PC off the shelf with like 75MB memory was state of the art! Playing RPGs like Gothic and Morrowind in the early 2000s you were thrilled to see anything above 25fps. So I'm fine with anything above 40fps, but I would be disappointed if that's all I was getting on a year old game on a 680. Hope you figure it out!

i7 2600k overclocked to 4.6 ghz
NVIDIA 680
8GB ddr3 1836 RAM
80GB SSD DRIVE

My fps is fine in 2d. I RARELY dip below 120fps in games even the witcher 2. However I am constantly dipping below 60fps in witcher 2 and will even hit as low as 40fps. Theres nothing wrong with my system. So I am rather confused. Basically it seems like 3D is costing me around 65%-60% fps. Instead of 50%

This almost seems like VRAM issue. However 680 has 2gb's. Very confusing....hopefully a 680 user can chip in.

Damn, I'm interested in the answer as well, I'm buying a 680 next week.

I think it's probably to do with Vsync. I can't remember the title, but there was at least one thread on here which discussed the different frame rates you'd experience if unable to maintain 60fps per eye.
Nothing to do with Vram.

Already tried. I dont think its VRAM. I just said it almost seems like one(like when you dont have enough for that resolution.

In witcher 2 the area that causes lowest fps
3d-41 fps
2d-96

Just tried the only other remaining driver and no change.

@Spire
I really dont recommend the 680's atm esp. with my issue. Lasersight also does not work with the 680's. Considering selling it and picking up two 580's used. Almost near same cost. Not sure why as well but with helix wrapper if I blank out a shader with a 680. It crashes. Other 680 users had same issue. No other nvidia card has this issue. Seems like things went untested.

Does it just crash if you manually do it, or do other helix fixes with shadow blanking crash as well?

There are a ton of things I love about the 680, so I'm hoping not to get persuaded off it, but not working with Helix is kind of a deal-breaker as I want to play through DS1 and 2 soon.

If I get any shader with information stored on it. And erase the information. Then inject it. It crashes with the 680. This has been confirmed from other 680 users. This only happens to 680 users. No explanation I can think of can explain it. I am selling mine tbh. This was the straw that broke camels back for me.

I know of 3 issues alone from the 680 in my limited time. Im done. Will buy two 580's and eat $150.00 cost.

The problem with that for me is I can't throw down the extra $150 for the SLI and my power supply is only enough to run a 680 which has low power consumption. No way could I SLI 580s without needing a new supply. Neither could I do sli 560ti's I don't believe (which new are the same as the 680 new).

Also I'm a little confused at what you posted, I'm not great at shader or shader knowledge. Which is embarrassing since I'm a programmer, but I do hate graphics programming.

Edit: Can take this into private messages if you prefer so we don't spam the thread, but it might be good knowledge for others.

Also, I'll be using a 720p projector, not a monitor capable of 1080p. The optoma gt750 to be exact. Knowing that, do you think a single 580 would be sufficiently powerful to play games in 3d with maxed graphics in 720p?

I use a 720p projector as well. I didnt run into any issues when I had a single 580 but for how long will it last. I cant really say. Can always buy a 580 on ebay used right now since they are cheap cause people want 680's. Then in a year if you want a 2nd one and new power supply you can always do that for a bit cheaper.

If your buying new Id say go for 680. 530 NEW
If your buying used go with 580. 315 USED

I cant handle fps thats around 35fps. Even for short amount of time. So when I saw 42fps in witcher 2 then I checked in 2d and saw 96 thats what got me riled up because how long before I find a game that hits that low. I try not to early adopt stuff but I bought into 680 hype.

Yes but I'd be careful about banking on the idea that you can get another 580 in a year's time. I was posting in another thread about the fact that I can't buy another 580 3GB even if I wanted to because they are gone. They were such a hot item when they were being made, there simply isn't any stock left, and since the 680 Kepler has been released they are no longer making the 580.

Maybe it's a driver issue eqzitara? It seems there have been a lot of issues with the new drivers that support the 680. I'm sure all will get ironed out in time.

Ur probably right and I am just mad lol. Just won't risk it.

Old cards used is never a problem to buy. Getting them new is. Tons of 3gbs used on ebay.
Most people dont sli so getting a used card is never an issue. I almost exclusively buy used but broke my rule for a 680.
