Can you elaborate this idea? How did 3D Vision became too unreliable? or What games do you want to play and aren't working ?
If you hope the by "magic" games that don't work in 3D Vision will work in VR...you are terribly mistaken... (I am not referring to VR specific developed games, but well basically 99% of the games that come out...)

I'm not hoping that VR and 3D vision magically make each other work, I know they are completely separate, I've used 3D vision for the best part of 3 years.
I just got fed up of most games being broken, and stuff like GTA5 and Far Cry 4 breaking, crashing, not activating, not supporting SLI etc...
Then there was the problem with the ROG SWIFT not supporting SLI, which was yet another nail in the coffin for me.
It was easier for me in the end to move on and accept that NVidia have all but dropped support for 3D vision and it is only the community keeping it alive.
These days I'm a lot happier because gaming is simpler. I miss 3D but all the hassle that goes along with it just got on my nerves too much in the end.

You know that VR doesnt support SLI like at all right? Like it needs developers to do a lot of work and no one actually seems to have bothered. Not even the big engines. I actually wrote about in the VR section of forums namely to warn others before commiting. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/922499/vr-general-discussion/does-sli-lack-a-future-for-vr-/
TBH, I havent really playing new games on 3D just cause of performance which I will wait on new card for so I cant speak of recent 3D gaming. I just hope you realize there is going to be a lot of going backwards before going forwards with VR. Unless your planning on playing just official supported games.
--------------------
I do believe VR will be the future of 3D gaming just because of massive player count difference. Not in regards to quality, I will always believe that non first person games are better on monitors. Anywho, if monitors are included is something I don't know but am hopeful of it depends on if modders can ride the wave I guess.
The days of hassles? Far from over my friend. Like you want to play a game that kind of got hacked in support like Alien Isolation, Doom 3 BFG, Dying Light? Massive hurdles.
Alot of the hacked in support is actually worse then patches as far as lines we cross as modders. There is lack of ethics. They straight up disabled stuff to get it to work and no documentation of what.
This is ignoring performance/visual issues and actually getting it to work.
I think it will be MANY years before things are streamlined and MANY MANY years if it is as succesful as people hope where all games that SHOULD have support do. Till then there will be many imaginative/skilled people hacking in support but again. These can be great, yes. Hassles, very much so.

Right...so you kinda want "Magic" ;)) One press of a button and all magically works ;)) I know! I would want that too! (And I guess everyone wants that ^_^) Sadly... PC gaming was always like this...Tweaking and tinkering with different things... One thing I agree though...Drivers are pretty bad lately and SLI support is EVEN WORSE!!! Now if they can't properly support SLI (which is 2D/3D) what do you expect from 3D Vision ? ^_^ If you want "headaches-free" gaming the console is the answer...but I hear that even there they patch things up (increase performance, etc) after a game is released... which shows that even if you have ONE platform is hard to get the best...let alone on the PC (which is like tons of different hardware & configurations)
So... yeah I can understand your position...but in the end for me and others, THE END RESULT is what matters...even if we have to spend some time and tinker a bit here and there (That's the beauty from my POV ^_^)

Out of curiosity...If SIMPLY following 1-2-3-5 steps is too hard for you... I expect you never actually tried fixing a game for 3D Vision... or you never tried something relatively complex to do?
Applying an ALREADY MADE fix for 3D Vision is like the absolute base line of using a PC (Totally different in making one ^_^)... If people can't follow that... they shouldn't own a PC at all! (Not targeted at you! Again, I understand your frustration and I share it more than you think! I know there are millions of people out there who use the PC for "face-notebook" and the likes and once in a while they want to play a game...following instructions on how to modify a Profile and copy files from A to B seems extremely hard(Hell.. my dad can't install his own games lol... and bugs me to do it..), but yeah... 3D Vision requires a bit of "believing and dedication" ;)) So, I hope you come back and forget about the frustrations and so on;)) In the end...is worth it ^_^)
