I have just downloaded the recommended nVidia Drivers for using my edmensional glasses from the edimensional web site they are 162.50 video and stereo plus reg file.
I have installed all three put I can't find the 3d stereo set up menu in the nvidia setup panel. Any suggestions

If this doesn't help, could you give some system specs? Graphiccard and processor. I assume you use xp right?
Can you access the "classic" nvidia panel? Right click your desktop, properties, settings, advanced. It should be there. Using the new nvidia panel will not give access to stereosettings.

I have, Right click your desktop, properties, settings, advanced and all I get is START THE NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL
May be when a first installed the drivers I choose the wrong option to access the "classic" nvidia panel. I will uninstall the drivers and start again.

You mentioned regfile in your above post. That should take care of it. Otherwise you can make your own regfile:
For simplicity you can copy the following lines into a textfile. Then rename that file to "classicpanel.reg". To add the settings into registry, doubleclick the file and answer yes on the question about adding to registry.

HI Likay
Followed your instruction copyed the information you gave in a text file renamed that classicpanel.reg ran the file clicked yes but all I got was
Cannot import C:\Documents and settings \owner\desktop\classicpanel.reg. The Specified file is not a registry script.
you can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor
Thanks Likay that worked /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I tried the stereo driver series 174.75 from 3d guru but they won't install I get to the unpaking of files and thats it not sure why they dont install.
Anyone able to use these drivers? They are beta drivers for 98/ME/XP/vista

174.75 stereo drivers? I think the latest ones that works for xp is the 162.50 or i have really been sleeping for awhile. If i'm not wrong the 174.75 is vista-drivers that natively supports the zalman 3d-monitor and anaglyph mode. Maybe those are mislabeled at guru3d?

No, you haven't been asleep for a while. I thing that the drivers incorrectly state that they work for 98/ME/XP.
Anyway I have installed the 162.50 stereo drivers ,Farcry works well as does FS2004 but medal of honor series is a bit buggy.
I am using red/green plastic glasses, I do notice a bit if ghosting I will unpack my edimemional shutter glasses from storage and give those a try.
What refresh rate is recommended
I am using a viewsonic Graghics series G810 21 inch CRT monitor
Regarding shutterglasses i personally need minimum 85Hz since lower frequencies gives unbearable flickering (this alters from person to person!). If you can have more it's only a plus. Usually if you decrease the ingame resolution you can increase the refreshrate of the monitor. Of course you have to try which settings that suits you best. Start with decreasing the refresh rate until you see what's bearable to you (the nvidia test application is great for this). Then have that value as minimum later on. Higher values of the refreshrate may cause extra ghosting because the phosphoric layer of the crt have some amount of "afterglow". Too high values will probably make the monitor go black (if settings are forced beyond the monitors capability).
So basically: Have enough refreshrate so the flicker is bearable (at least 85hz) but not so high that you experience extra ghosting or other problems because of it.
Regarding drivers you can try different combos to achieve best results with different games: Personally i always keep these driver-combos so i easily can change if needed:
older drivers - one cpu only
91.31Forceware+91.31stereo
93.81Forceware+93.81stereo (in some games better compability than 91.31)
94.24Forceware+94.24stereo
Newer betas with multicore support:
162.18Forceware+162.15stereo (not a typo, 162.15fw were buggy)
any newer forceware driver + 162.50stereo.
This should be taken with a small amount of salt: Other combinations can give good results and it doesn't hurt trying!
Also: Postprocessing effects doesn't go to well with the nvidia stereodrivers. Try turn them off or look up in different forums about decent gamesettings (why not mtbs3d.com? ;) ). Another useful tool is the "Dragon's NVIDIA Stereo Driver Utility". It can set the nvidia stereodriver to have some (limited) postprocessing ability.
Before changing drivers i always make a backup of the registrysettings in the "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation" and everything below that dir and imports those settings after changing drivers. This way many settings are kept. If this is too difficult, never mind doing it. Finding the gamesettings again only takes a few secs. :D

For example motion blur, certain kinds of fullscreen filterings.. There's a lot of effect that goes with this (usually effects in newer games).
Shadows and "High Dynamic Range" doesn't seem to disable stereo in a way that postprocessing does. At worst they look wrong and in that case simply turn them down/off. :D
For example when playing HL2 episode 2 you have to disable color correction and motion blur to get any stereo at all. HDR doesn't ruin the stereoeffect but is rendered in 2d so it looks better have it turned off.
If a game doesn't work in stereo then try looking up such effects and try to turn them off. If those settings cannot be found in the ingame videosettings there can be hope anyway: The games often have corresponding config files (usually .ini and .cfg files) in the game dir. By opening those with notepad trying to find the settings you can still achieve good results. However you can of course damage your installed game so a new install might be needed. Beware a little in other words. :D
The best tip is looking up what other users have made to make their games look good and simply make the same changes.
Another choice could be the iz3d-driver but they don't have shutterglasses support (yet). They work fine for me though since i use two projectors. They allow me to have stereo with more or less all new games with all the eyecandy on. The limiting fact is more what my machine is capable of. :D. The iz3d-driver is free but other solutions than anaglyph and iz3d-mode costs a small fee.

I could not find Dragon's NVIDIA Stereo Driver Utility any idea where they are
also how do the mtbs3d stereo drivers compare to the nvidia ones
The dragon utility can be found in the download section of the mtbs3d.com. If you're interested in 3d this site is more or less a must for you. To access the download section you need to register. On the mtbs3d site you can also access nvidia stereodrivers as well as the iz3d driver.
I suppouse you mean iz3d-drivers and compared with the nvidia drivers: Check http://www.iz3d.com
Iz3d-drivers have way higher compability regarding newer games since they handle postprocessing great. They don't support shutterglasses yet but that may change. They works in winxp and vista but supports only directx9. You can buy opengl support but personally i haven't tried it with games and i'm not sure what their opengl support includes (other words: I'm using nvidiastereo for these games. :D ).
If you want to play older games in stereo (lower than directx9) or opengl games: Doom3, Prey etc then nvidiadrivers are prefered since they supports older versions of directx and also opengl.
basically: Iz3d has better support for newer systems (multicore, ati-cards or whatever is no problem) and games, no shutter support but they're working hard to make a future implemention possible. Nvidia has shutterglasses support but have as it seems for now dropped stereosupport for everything but the zalman monitor (is it their time to get their head chopped off next? o.O Couldn't resist the kick but i still have an 8800gtx which only works in stereo thanks to iz3d).
Since you're using shutters your only option now is to use the nvidia drivers (not mentioning e-d drivers). But keep your eyes open. There's a lot of things happening on consumerlevel and 3d right now!

For simplicity you can copy the following lines into a textfile. Then rename that file to "classicpanel.reg". To add the settings into registry, doubleclick the file and answer yes on the question about adding to registry.

There's a lot of things happening on consumerlevel and 3d right now!
cheers
I suppouse you mean iz3d-drivers and compared with the nvidia drivers: Check http://www.iz3d.com
Iz3d-drivers have way higher compability regarding newer games since they handle postprocessing great. They don't support shutterglasses yet but that may change. They works in winxp and vista but supports only directx9. You can buy opengl support but personally i haven't tried it with games and i'm not sure what their opengl support includes (other words: I'm using nvidiastereo for these games. :D ).
