LEGO - 'The Hobbit' - Hasn't been mentioned yet - But ...
Okay, my 10 year old son and I are LEGO junkies, be it the toys themselves or the vast and ever growing collection of themed video game titles. As many of you know, when configured properly theses games tend to be a better than adequate 3D induced experience, but lately it seems to have been a crap-shoot. Take for instance the very early 'Star Wars" titles, they looked sweet and played well in 3D out of the box. As the popularity of these games evolved, then blew up, it was obvious they were/are trying to top, or at least fine tune, their 'recipe' if you will, and, to those ends, I feel they have succeeded. 3D However, has been a different story, LEGO Batman II was/is a PHENOMINAL game, but it needed fixing to get it to that point which gave the game that extra edge and is without a doubt all the better for it. Fast forward a bit more and we get LEGO - MARVEL Superheroes. Those of you familiar with this one can confirm this, especially if you played the Demo version before release as I and a few others did, the game was nearly FLAWLESS and my son and I were very excited for the official launch. However, when that day came and we fired up the game for the first time our hearts sank, it was totally broken, I swear I heard Nelson (From the Simpsons) say "Ha! Ha!" but maybe that was just my imagination. So, long story short, many of us, including Helix and others sprang into action and started sending off emails to the dev's inquiring why it worked in the demo and was released broken etc.. and so on, it wasn't long before helix came up with a fix and posted it, THANK YOU! Then, something ANAZING happened, the dev's released an update that actually FIXED the 3D.. Those of us, and you, in the know can truly understand how RARE This was! Ok, so, then LEGO The Movie came out, it also required a fix, but I do believe it was not as bad and to be fair, this was an a-typical game for them comprised completely of LEGO Pieces, so I let that slide as their reputation goes.. Which brings me, at long last, to the point of this topic, if you ever had any doubts about LEGO (Travelers Tales) and their position as it pertains to 3D, You can put them to BED with this title.. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED IN 3D - A MUST play, if you don't have it GET IT (Besides the 3D, the game itself is, in my opinion, easily the BEST to date) and if you already have it and you are waiting for some reason, DON'T WAIT - PLAY IT. Recipe for perfection - 1.) Turn all game settings as high as they go, I disable motion blur as I don't like the effect. 2.) Adjust depth to about 70 - 75% - The game is convergence locked (I hate that, but can't seem to unlock it with "nvapi" either) but is IN NO WAY a deal breaker, I just like having the ability to tweak it. 3.) In your NV Control Panel, adjust things how you wish, but for me, I have: AF @ 16x AA @ Override AA Setting @ 'SLI 64x CSAA' AA Transparency @ '8x Super Sampling' V-Sync - Use Game settings (set to highest in game settings) Then, because 3D can be harsh on any color settings for some users, I crank up the 'Digital Vibrance' setting to 90% - Note, this setting, if used out of context (for any other game and 2D Especially) can cause bloom/bleeding issues and really make a mess of things, so don't mirror my percentage, but rather experiment a little, the right amount puts the cherry on top of an already beautiful, in depth gaming experience. If you unlock the option for "Middle Earth Carnival" it is really jaw dropping, standing high and just looking around is simply breath taking! Now, my only hope/fear is that EVERY LEGO game released from here on out works and looks as good as this one does in 3D! Thanks for reading my long winded post, but hey, the things in life we are truly passionate about demand to be shared with other like minded individuals! Enjoy! ~Nutz
