Elite Dangerous Fix
  15 / 32
Not related to the fix, but thought I'd share I just got a Thrustmaster FCS Hotas kit to replace my Saitek x52, and it's definitely an improvement. A few drawbacks (less buttons/hats on the stick, no center indent on the throttle), but it definitely felt way more controlled and precise. I got my ass kicked on the advanced combat training exercise multiple times before on my x52, and my first time trying with the FCS I held my own and won. With a bit of practice I could probably even git gud! In terms of fix status, I did finally get around to playing the actual game a couple days ago, and I may have come across a white dwarf that you mentioned. I'm not too familiar with what's what in terms of space exploration, but I found a star with 2 rays of light coming off of it on either side of it (a broken effect, which should have been just one ray emitting from it's center). Unfortunately I found out the hard way while trying to fix that one that there is no pause in the game, and while I was working away I got interdicted and blown up by an NPC. Not too thrilled about that. Ah well. Whatever it was, it's a bit trickier to fix than most of the other broken effects so far, but probably doable if/when I can try again undisturbed. Oh, one other addition I made is a toggle for while on the galaxy map to make things aligned better.

Well I seen a whiteDwarf last night and besides the long trail that was 2D the rest of it was in 3D.. IF you can post a screenshot that will be most helpful. if you want I can goto one and post it up and then you can for the one you seen it may have different shaders ??? I look forward to your fix.. I also been saving shaders from the cache folder do you still want those??

Thanks, that provided me about 140 shaders I haven't come across yet, a few of which were broken effects candidates. A couple of issues remaining and I think I'll be ready for a release, at least based on what I've seen so far (which is probably very little). The main thing I'd like to tackle is that although I've fixed shadows on external objects, for some reason the lighting that shines through and lights up the cockpit create some imperfect shadows, even though it's the same shader. Not a huge matter, but one I'd like to sort out nonetheless. That and I still haven't come across another one of those stars I mentioned before, but I did stop by a RES and can confirm that was perfectly fine/fixed.

Well if you can think of somewhere we might goto get a different shader let me know.. I did get a few on an Orbital approach.. Thing is shadows on the planets are broke too.. so maybe there was a Planet shadow there that could get fixed.. the thing I worry about if they use different shaders for each style planet whch there could be serveral dozen or so?? I look forward to your release..

So I think I'm about ready to put out my release. Been playing this a lot, and for the most part I've fixed what I can, and the few remaining issues have been a little too tricky (especially without proper shader headers to fully understand what's going on) to resolve, the remaining issues are: -Shadows fix is only partially complete. When up close (ie. shadows inside the cockpit, or with the debug cam really close to the ship) they are broken (but a little better than with no fix at all), but at a distance (which mostly everything else is: asteroids, stations, planets, etc) they are fine -Screen space reflections still broken -Bloom on flashing lights ARE fixed, however they have a weird issue where lights on the occluded side of an object will still shine through, but in one eye only. I have a toggle to remove them all together I've been working on an alternative converge fix based on Phaseshifter's suggestion before, where I leave the bottom half of the screen HUD items unchanged (since they don't start diverging anywhere near as quickly as the top HUD items), and only adjust the top parts, so I'll have 2 separate keys for those. This alternative method is good for higher than normal, but still relatively low convergence (around 3-5), but maintains the perspective more accurately. Does have to adverse effects on the side HUDs, so it's not something you can leave on entirely either, and will have a toggle. I really haven't done much travelling, a couple dozen systems maybe (definitely not even close to leaving the bubble), so probably a good idea if I post up a beta fix in here first, and let you guys try it out. Probably post a link later tonight. But if/when we decide to go live with it on the blog, how do you want to handle that?

Here's a link to the beta fix: https://s3.amazonaws.com/djrking/Elite+Dangerous+Fix+Beta+v1_1.zip The following keys do: \ - Removes HUD menus from screen (not as useful as other games where I include this since bringing up the menu doesn't actually pause the game, but still has some uses) ] - Toggle for ideal menu depth settings when viewing the Galaxy Map [ - Toggle for disabling flashing lights bloom [s]' - Convergence / HUD adjust # 1: Cycles through 4 convergence values 10, 20, 50, and 1.5 while keeping the HUD/cockpit structure in front of the screen. Note that the higher the convergence, the closer that external objects will appear to the screen, when in fact they are further back ; - Convergence / HUD adjust method # 2: This is a toggle switch. It will not actually change the convergence at all, but it will allow you to increase the convergence while significantly reducing it's affects on the top half of the HUD. Has some adverse effects (ie. when looking at side panels they will look slanted), hence why is is a toggle on/off[/s] ^^^ See update below for new preset. These keys still exist, so feel free to try them if you like. Edit / Update: I just noticed a few items on the galaxy map were at screen depth and needed to be fixed, so just added those. Also, I created the following convergence adjust preset key: Caps Lock - Best convergence / HUD preset: Sets convergence to 15 with HUD adjust. I have just tried playing with this, and I think that this provides a nice effect and does not affect gameplay much at all. This will probably be the only option that will go into the final release to keep things simple.

OK ran into a small issue.. it was in the dust cloud in the Rez zones..when we where in the shadow of the planet thhe dust kept flashing light to dark like a stobe effect, it was very disorienting.. I noticed it too on the planet rings when in shadow.. I did not get a screenshot.. but I think that is a show stopper when in the Rez zones.. I did not notice this on planets when going to the surface..

Hmmm, spent quite a bit of time in RES's getting my Boba Fett on, and didn't ever have an issue. Mind letting me know which system that was in? Or if you can't remember which one it was, please let me know the next time you find one like it. Also, mind posting up what settings you're using? Also, go ahead and remove the following shader: ab1b733a9e407142-vs_replace.txt. I can't remember what it was doing, but it was creating some problem; and it was just a shader I had dumped, not one that I made any changes to, so it can be removed without affecting anything. Another shader you can try to remove is: 30f802c138407a10-ps_replace.txt. This one fixes specular reflections, but in turn it makes the light/shadow border on planets imperfect from certain angles (which is a damn shame since it's nice to have the specular reflections fixed).

Here's a link to my latest iteration of the WIP, which includes a fix for the mouse cursor (in addition to other elements) when viewing the galaxy map. no it's not fixed . ED uses a hardware cursor (like in dark souls 3 and Just Cause 3 ) and it's not fixable with 3dmigoto currently . DarkStarSword have said a couple of mounths ago he will try to make it work in SbS/TaB . Thx anyway for your effort on this game !

Thank you DJ-RK, AndysonofBob, The_Nephilim, PhaseShifter and Johnathon for an amazing fix. I hope I have not left anyone out. I am finding that bloom is still at screen depth on both flashing and fixed lights on stations, also other ships in hyperspace (although the trails are fixed), stations in hyperspace and the centre destination star in the hyperspace jump screen. I tried the "[" toggle but I cannot notice any effect from this. Also turning off bloom in the graphic options menu does not get rid of this. I will try to include some screenshots. I play in surround by the way but I have also tried in single screen and with SLi disabled and neither makes a difference. I just want to check whether this is a known issue or whether I have installed the fix incorrectly or gotten something else wrong. Thanks
