Grand Theft Auto V 3D vision Low GPU Usage
  1 / 2
Hello guys, I just installed the NaturalVision Remastered Graphic Mod and I tested it with 3D mode (the quality is insanely good) but having my GPU at 50-60% usage, in 2D mode the GPU is 99%. Did anyone experienced the same situation or have any idea on how to fix it? Thanks!

Unsure about 3DV but NaturalVision Remastered Graphic Mod has no tangible performance impact on the game. This is a well known problem not only with GTA5 but all 3DV games to various extents. NVidia have confirmed the bug and might fix it some day, but apparently requires a huge amount of effort. Do you know who and how this problem was fixed for The Witcher 3 and Batman AK ?

You need to read more of the thread to understand. You're assuming that because your CPU isn't at 100% that you don't have a CPU bottleneck, but you do (indirectly). It's the 3d vision drivers that are using the CPU in an inefficient way and leading to the underutilisation of both CPU and GPU. It's worse in some games than others.

It's very different depending on the game. There are cases where I get >=120fps in 2D but around 40fps in 2D (rare cases), cases where ~120fps in 2D mean ~60fps in 3D (most cases), and some cases where 70-90fps in 2D still let me get 60fps in 3D (rare cases). It must be mostly related to geometry complexity, because LOD options usually (not in Yakuza 0) make it a lot easier on the CPU, as I tested in MGS Ground Zeroes and Skyrim SE. In Skyrim, if you look at the sky while being always CPU limited, the 3D fps almost match the 2D fps, with vsync disabled.

It's cool to have a member of the NVR team here lou4612. FYI, someone did a performance comparison of NVR on vs off, showing no tangible difference... Perhaps performance issues were fixed in a later patch? :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iw1SRReJy80

I'm the only NVR guy running 3D Vision. Which version are you all running with GTAV? Also what settings? I'm running it in 1440p 3D Vision and I get a constant 48-58 FPS. Reshade will eat roughly 10 FPS for me ENB will eat roughly 5 FPS for me Also that video no longer applies since its a year old and the latest NVR is a little more performance hungry.

In 2D mode i'm getting +100fps@1440p but only 25-30fps per eye in 3D mode. *And Yes a BIG THANK YOU for this NVR mod it's making some games pretending to be next gen looks like a joke for it's 3D rendering quality and performance. I'm getting the same quality as screenshots of the mod, that I thought they were photoshoped at the beginning, after display calibrating and rising up brightness. This introduces severe CPU bottlenecking in titles that are heavily CPU dependent, GTA 5 beyond one of them. A newer processor with greater IPC count and freq helps, my 3D Vision FPS in GTA 5, overlooking Los Santos from Franklin's balcony went from like 35 to 55 going from a 4930k @ 4.5 GHz to 8700k @ 5.0 GHz. That said I still had brutal dips down to 50 FPS in that area and the game ran so stuttery that I opted for fluid 120+ FPS with G-Sync over 3D Vision. A lot of titles are like this, like Batman: AK, where flying around causes the game to dip down to 40 FPS in certain areas with severe hitching because of the same 3 Core Bug. But honestly GTA 5 just isn't fun anymore, especially the multiplayer aspect. Once you get over single player there really isn't a point in keeping the game.

I'm trying mods and finding them really amazing, testing some cars mods with NVR is something that I'm actually enjoying, maybe I'm late but for the performance I think we just reach (2080 Ti) the ability to play these mods at max settings with 8msaa (the difference is visible between 4msaa and 8msaa in 2K btw) at + 120fps in 2K and more.

Possible alleviation of the problem to a degree: A common misconception is that low FPS causes stuttering - to an extent it does, but majority of the time, this is not the case. The perceived stuttering actually comes from frames produced out of sync because of some bottleneck - and this is what GSync / FreeSync were designed to combat - this is why you can have low FPS with GSync and Freesync but still perceive that the game play is fluid. Of course we can't have this with 3DVision (well you can but the driver doesn't implement my personal idea of an improved "3D Vision" to allow for such a thing, including 120FPS in 3DV on 120Hz+ monitors - proven to work). We can, however, have something simple which does the job - if 98% of your FPS are above 50FPS, then lock your max FPS to 50, e.g. by using nVidia Inspector (option next to VSync settings IIRC). What this does is allow your gaming system some breathing room so it can generate frames in sync. This will give you the 3D vision FPS you desire at a smooth FPS, albeit, at a slightly dropped FPS :)
