GeForce 3D Vision and TriDef Media Player Is it possible to watch 2d videos in 3d?
Hi, I recently purchased Nvidia's 3d Vision glasses with the samsung 120hz monitor. Everything is working fine for me but I was wondering if it was possible to use the glasses and the monitor with the TriDef Media Player (http://www.tridef.com/products.html) which plays 2d movies in 3d, at least that's what they say :P

I tried the player and it does seem to work but my glasses don't activate and I can't get them to activate manually. I need to go into 3d mode when watching the TriDef Media Player, is that possible, and if so, how? Thanks in advance!

No, it doesn't work with 3D Vision. But you are not missing much. Real-time 2D->3D is dubious at best. It basically can't be done with any type of accuracy. I doubt it will ever work.

Here are some 3D videos I took of the TriDef Media Player using standard 2D DVDs. Please set your YouTube3D option to "cross-eye" for the full effect (and you need to cross your eyes of course):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgPG84iHW2Y

As you can see it does something, but it is next to nothing. Not worth the trouble if you ask me.

Wrong Wrong Wrong!

I have the Nvidia product and the Tri-Def glasses and let me tell you I play MKV's 1080 on the Tridef all the time and it adds great depth to the movie. I am not saying all movies look great but dont think you cant get a OMG experience out of the tridef player.

I watched Beowolf with the Tri-Def glasses and the depth was amazing!. The Nvidia 3D player is a joke and re-branded 3RD party video player.

I have not gotten the Nvidia glasses to work with the player though, for the experience I am talking about you will need the tridef glasses as well but the 2D to 3D conversion is great on some movies.

The problem with retrofitting 3d to a movie file is that it cant produce the reults that 3d vision is capable of. 3d vision produces a stereoscopic image by taking the grafic buffer and rendering the scene a second time from a different angle. Pixar are adding 3d to their back catalouge by re-running the render program with all the virtual camaras moved a set amount. Any movie file that is not already 3d cannot have this done, as its effetively just the output, and the size of the prerender run for an animated movie like toy story is collosal

Yes you can produce a fake depth perceprtion uing other method, but they pale in comparion to the real thing, Abit like (but more noticiable than) upcaling from a SD movie and watching the same movie, produced in HD, but even more so.

I'm curious, how did you get it to work? I tried it, set the display to: (standard display types) and the model to: page-flipped (opengl stereo). When I tried to view anything in stereo, it just said "3d disabled" and I couldn't enable it. Geforce GTX 260 and Nvidia 3D Vision with Acer H5360.
