HELP! I've FUBAR'd my 3D config...
Hopefully someone will be able to help me out.

First off, I'm using the 91.31 Nvidia and 3DStereo drivers (matched- both are version 91.31). Vid card is a GeForce 7800 GS. Vid glasses are Edimensional wired and wireless.

I have somehow (my guess is by playing around with the backplane/screen depth settings) completely screwed my 3d config. Game in question is Farcry, which has always been flawless before. Basically, my convergence is completely whacked. (Cntrl+F5/F6). I get miscolored streaks on either side of the screen if I adjust too far... trouble is, if I adjust the convergence to correct it, I lose depth completely.

Basically, I've attempted everything from deleting the config (Alt+F7) to attempting to readujst ALL of the settings (everything from Frustrum Cycling, Convergence, Screen Depth and Backplane Depth) to removing and reinstalling the drivers (Stereo, not main) completely. Nothing's helping...

Is there a hidden setting or config file I'm missing somewhere? A registry setting perchance? A config file for the game somewhere?

Odd thing is, the test application in the control panel (with the spinning logo, not the medical test) is perfect. Everything worked fine until I started playing with the Depth and Backplane. /angel.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='O:)' />

Now I'm toast. /no.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

HELLLLP!
Hopefully someone will be able to help me out.

This install guide gives You a fresh install:

(It has never let me down)

If You want to clean the registry use TweakNow RegCleaner:

Thanks, Freke...

Unfortunately, no go. I followed the guide to the letter, but still no luck.
Any other ideas?

Yes - a few. My computer is very similar to Yours (7800GS+, eDim glasses and 91.31) so Your registry should look similar to mine:
http://www.3d.wep.dk/registry.html
(there's also an old reg fix that worked great with my old 6800GT card).

I'm a little confused because I never use Frustrum, Screen Depth and Backplane as they don't work unless You tick the "Force HW TnL off" box (from what I've heard) and this is not desireable and only worked with DirectX7 (from what I've heard). The only things I adjust is separation and convergence (sometimes very very slow to start adjusting). Convergence adjustment sometimes works illogical/odd too.

I had a problem with the stereoviewer and the only way I could solve it was to install a newer driver.

So this is what I would do:
1. check Your registry looks similar to mine.
2. Try adjusting separation and convergence to the max back and forth a couple of times.
3. try the reg. fix.
4. install newer driver pair (93.71 or 93.81).
5. Reinstall the game and update DirectX9.0c.
Hope this helps ^_^

You need to use Dragon's post processing utility to activate render target feature.

It's the post processing effects that are doing that.

OR, check the renderer option in Far Cry. Make sure it is set to normal.

This should fix things up for you.

Chopper, you're a GOD. :)

I checked the renderer option in FarCry... sure enough, I had it set to "improved". The minute I changed it to default, my problem went away.

Freke- you're right about the Hardware TnL checkbox- I had wondered why it wasn't adjusting those when I tried. When I had first messed with them, I had checked the box trying different settings. As I recall, this was the same time I was trying to get rid of my BSOD/Reboot problem. So that explains it.

The screen depth and backplane can be handy if you're playing a game with a complex HUD- like X2 for example. Playing with these can bring it into focus. FPS games, you don't need it so much.

Okay, now that that one's solved (bows to Chopper)... here's another (admittedly minor) annoyance.

Again in FarCry, I will occasionally get a flicker (not ghosting or refresh) where the 3D will cut out for a split second and then kick back in. Not constant, and not critical, but it's there. I've tried Vsync on, Vsync off, playing with the graphic settings, filtering, ect...

Driver/game issue or something I'm overlooking?

I've been a long time lurker of the board, and just want to say thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. /thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Well, if you use that Dragon utility I told you about, you can try the other renderers too, but you will have some convergence limitations.

As for the flashing, your glasses should have an activator utility with them. It gets them to sync up through a special hardware call. That should get rid of the flashing.
