MWO Mechwarrior Online 3d support thread.

I just tried this again and it definitely still works! Framerate is terrible in 3d surround though. The user.cfg is by default empty, which must be normal. Also, you need to remember to go to options and enable 3d vision, otherwise the emitter activates and you get the overlay but no video and loads of flickering. If you activate it it's obvious straight away in the mech lab as the picture of your mech is perfect 3d. Names tags/crosshairs etc. are at screen depth, but everything else looks ok.

rustyk, does stereo still work for you with the posted work around? I'm disappointed to hear they've been taking shortcuts with the HUD, but would still like to try it out. This game would be amazing with proper depth perception. How are you guys getting SLI to work? Did you have to change anything? I'm still only getting one card with any load on it.

It definitely works, I tried it yesterday. HUD elements are 2d but everything else (including cockpit and mechlab) is 3d. I don't know about SLI scaling. I get very good usage from both my cards, but I've never bothered turning SLI off to see if that's actually translated into improved FPS.

I'm essentially getting 100% usage on one card and 0% on the other (EVGA Precision probably reads something like 99% and 2%). So it's not anything to do with scaling, but rather any load at all on the second card. I'm not sure what my issue is there, though I do some many posts on their forums saying SLI and Crossfire both are not working. However, I will try stereo tonight, thanks!

That's really strange, I get 100% usage on both gpus. I am running at 5760x1080 though and High res is normally where you get the most gains from sli. Like I said, framerate really suffers in 3d and make sure you enable it in the options. I think that posting says c: drive as well, but it obviously needs to go wherever you installed the game.

Yeah, no problem, I've edited the cfg before. I added said lines and played MWO in stereo 3D last night! This is how the game should be played. There is great depth in the maps and distance to mechs can now be judged. However, it is not flawless. The most obvious, especially at higher depths ([s]which can be controlled through the r_StereoScreenDist parameter[/s]), are the 2D cockpits. I can hardly believe they are 2D. Especially considering you can look around them. What a strange shortcut to take. The most bothersome issue is the crosshair. As mentioned, the HUD is not 2D strictly speaking, but seems to be on a curved plane like a helmet faceplate. However, This means the crosshair is NOT projected out to the target, but instead right in front of you. It's good enough for getting your missile lock ons and gets you close enough with the lasers to adjust during the channel, but probably requires a player relying on ballistics or SRMs to switch back to 2D to be effective. This seems like it could be easily fixed, however, as they are already doing the ray trace out to the intersection as demonstrated by the range display right next to the crosshair. The final gripe is that it's not really stereo 3D...it's CryEngine's fake 3d (where they use the Z coordinate to calculate an offset instead of drawing 2 different perspectives to save on performance). This means on objects that you have seriously different views on from each eye (mostly things that are very close), there is actually missing data. CryEngine fills this in with a shimering effect. Anyone that's turned up the depth in Crysis 2 knows what I'm talking about. [s]The one thing they are doing correctly, however, which actually makes this game somewhat playable in 3D, is drawing the sensor data for enemies and friendlies actually at the position of mech (instead of flat on the HUD). This means when you're eyes are focused on a mech, you can see the targeting bracket, their name and designation, distance, etc instead of seeing double. If this was broken, 3D would be completely unplayable, so we have that to be thankful for.[/s]

Well I have to retract a couple of my comments after digging into the CryEngine Stereo 3D variables and experimenting a little more last night. r_StereoScreenDist does not control the depth (separation) but is instead CryEngine's analog of convergence. So I was playing with high convergence, but low depth. It is instead r_StereoEyeDist that controls the depth. I found on my 23" monitor that setting this to about 0.05 (maximum separation of the two pictures of 5% of the screen width) gave a setting closer to what we'd normally think of as 100% depth in Nvidia 3D Vision land. This really finished off the depth perception for me and made things look "real" in perspective and scale. However, it exacerbated all the other issues. The shimmer became much worse and started appearing on even distance objects. The crosshair was so removed from the action it became hard to aim even with the lasers and lock on weapons. The semi-3D HUD (as mention, it looks like a helmet faceplate) means that the Nvidia 3D crosshair can do nothing to save the day. It also became apparent that the target information was indeed rendered in a flat plane, not attached to the mechs as I believed when I was running low depth. This is very disappointing to me. Though did play like this for a while last night, it was reducing my effectiveness. I may try going back to low depth/high convergence, or just 2D :( Anyway, I would still recommend any MWO and Nvidia 3D fan to give it a try just to see what it's like!

it sort of "works" everything is out of place it only works for the CENTER screen but the 2 side monitors are still normal 2D so, it's still broken, it's not fully 3D yet

Kingpin, I don't know where you keep pulling these profiles from?! Anyway, other Matey never pm'd me the profile. Just tried yours and literally, my framerate has doubled!! However, I did have really intense flickering to start with. Enabled VSYNC in game and it was largely fixed, but still a few anomalies. I'll play around with the settings a bit more and see if I can fix it. I only applied the SLI bits, not the other settings. FXAA and adaptive Vsync are currently enabled in Nvidia CPL.

Same here. Almost doubled FPS, but stuck with flickering and contrast shifts. At least it gives me some hope it can be done. Edit: Found out the flickering and such only occur when you're not holding your view on one point. While you keep moving your reticle(view), it's sharp. Turning AA off makes it go away entirely, but that's not how you want to play, right?
