That's stupid... just sensationalist reporting. The media will always jump on new stuff and make people fear it in some way. 3d stereo has only ever improved my eye sight and eye strength.

I truly wish there was some sort accountability in reporting. However, lying and massively exaggerating to the point of dishonesty is protected as a freedom of speech here. Literally, a news agency can lie outright so long as it doesn't fall under the rules for libel and slander (afaik). Hey, I'm always for more freedom, but when something as important as the news is able to lie to its readers/viewers....

Even the air you breath is toxic according to some scientists. So quit breath if you wants to live healthy....
According to other scientists: sitting in front of a computerscreen for extreme periods of time is not healthy and i tend to agree. This is the only aspect i find 3d harmful but then it's not 3d itself... I've been gaming in stereo-3d for almost 10 years now and my health only suffers from aging. /santa.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':santa:' />
Keep on gaming and do what you like, but do it with balance.

Simply sensationalist journalism. We KNOW people here game with 3D Vision quite regularly. I put a few hours on mine everyday since I got it, and this past weekend I literally wanted to put it to the test (test the possibility of eyestrain and headaches to be specific) and played Resident Evil 5 in 3d and 50% depth for over 5 hours nonstop. I am happy to say it passed the test.

Now on to why I think the article is nonsense for the sake of selling a story.

First, I never once in my life, after a 3D experience, have even slightly for a moment experienced any disorientation due to “tuning out the other depth perception senses in my brain.” This session was no exception. Glasses came off; no disorientation experienced at any time. Second, there are people here who have been using 3d Kits on nearly a daily basis for months, I am sure a few people have for years. Why is there no report of these people having issues? I am sure atleast one would have been vocal about it. Why, after Avatar 3Ds massive success, has there been nothing published about all the people having fender benders after the movie? Cause it isn’t happening.

Now I am not saying that the whole idea of some people experiencing disorientation after 3D is complete nonsense. Everyone is different and I would be very apt to expect something like that to be reported after a 3D experience that produced eyestrain. I am saying the article is sensationalized. 3D, anaglyph, polarized, or shutter glasses aside, technology is nothing new. While the screen manufacturers may not have done any long term studies, watching things in 3D is old enough that this problem would have been brought to light long ago if it were real or as serious as it is conveyed.

So no, I don’t expect or hope that “3D sets will disappear off the market or there will be a large class action lawsuit.”

Most journalists are chumps.

Interesting to say the least. I sure know how much video games I played when I was young. My question is would I let my 10 year old sit at the computer and play 3D games for 10 hours a day, 7 days a week? Probably not, no. Would I let him play 10 hours a day not in 3D? Yeah probably. Speaking for myself of course. /sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' />

But also... I found this very interesting hehe

Nonsence, today I was at eye clinic to check my eyes (various tests including GDX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GDx and everything is fine. I am using 3d vision, playing games (sometimes 10 hours) ...
Doctor told me that he thinks that 3d vision does not damage eyes.

PS:
I was here http://www.eyecentrum.cz/?lang=ENG
And I feel also fine, no psychotic breaks.

My vision has improved since I started gaming in 3d. Causal, maybe not, but the correlation is strong. 3d gaming is as likely to hurt your son's eyes as much as standing next to a microwave will give him cancer.

I have played and watched in 3D since the ELSA Revelator and the old 3D IMAX documentaris. I don't think that it can be harmfull. Of course it can be disorientating or straining, but thats gone in a few minutes if you take off the glasses. Like the wrong color preception with the Red/Blue glasses. Viewing a long time on monitor itself has always been inculpated harmful but long time damages never happened. The only think they really have to improve is the sharpness of the background in real filmed movies. In 3D the eye often tries to focus on the background, wich of course is impossible because the displayed image is not sharp. That doesn't occur while viewing a 2D Movie because everything has the same depth.

A lot of people say their vision improved when using 3d. I could see this ringing true when it comes to near sightedness or far sightedness. As I understand your eyes can focus on things in the difference because muscles in your eye flex the lense so you can see the distant object clearly. In 2d gaming your looking at the same point constantly your eyes never have to adjust focus in that manner. In 3d gaming you reall are looking at an image coming from the same point, but as we know 3d comes from the effect of tricking your eyes and brain and seeing depth. Even though the depth perception is artifical, do your eyes still not try to focus on things in the distance and up close? If so is this effective exercise for the lenses of your eye and could you possibly get some lost ability to focus after a certain distance back? If not atleast maintain it?

That article it's so stupid. It's like saying that listening to stereo music with headphones will make your brain loose the ability to identify the location of the sounds in real life... or that looking at 2d pictures or monitor will make the brain loose the ability to evaluate the distance.

I think you might have misinterpreted my tone. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> Also, son=daughter or whatever unholy combination he/she/it might be. ^_^

If you honestly didn't understand, my vision prescription has decreased in strength since I started gaming in 3d. Also, if you have ever worked at certain restaurants, in the kitchen, you will stand next to a microwave for eight to ten hours at a time while waiters are heating food constantly. It isn't exactly unheard of.
