Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA
  1 / 3
Reserved (or not) the OP, because I don't know if someone will fix it sooner. The game can be preordered now on GOG (https://www.gog.com/game/ys_viii_lacrimosa_of_dana) and Steam. I'm glad it could come to GOG, because that's where my most complete Falcom collection is :). I want to know if someone here is going to buy it and test it or fix it. My interest in the game is 10/10, but I won't buy it at the current price because I recently bought Ys SEVEN and the three Trails in the Sky games (a fix for the first game is coming soon!) and they will be a time sink.

If I start the series from the 7th, will I get lost? are the episodes linked? I would like to start from the 7th (the 6th seems to be too difficult to digest graphically). The 7th episode has a reasonable price to discover and see if I enjoy the series :) I did not know the YS series at all.

Previous adventures only get briefly referenced. Ys is basically Zelda on speed and you should definitely get Ys Origin and Oath in Felghana too. Skip I & II as those are too old-school.

Good to know, Gryzor_. I'll help in every way I can if you post shaders and screenshots here (or through the GOG Galaxy chat if you want). I hope the game isn't too broken... I'll try to finish the ToCS fix this weekend. I need to beat the final boss of chapter 6 (he's kicking my ass on hard mode) and then proceed with the rest of the game to check if there are more water issues. If you check that there isn't any new unfixed water at the end of chapter 6 and in all of chapter 7, I can release the fix sooner (maybe I'll find some more bloom shaders for my bloom hotkey later, but they are less important). I'm liking TitS too. Falcom hasn't disappointed me ever yet (aside from Ys SEVEN port issues).
I'm liking TitS too.
Heh, you can't help but be mildly amused by that "TitS" abbreviation though ;) Having played all 3 TitS (LOL at innuendo), I'm currently busy with the fan-translated Trails to Zero in 3D - which takes place in Crossbell at the same time as ToCS - so I've only just reached Legram in the PC-version of ToCS. Regarding new and unfixed water near the end, it might take me a few weeks more to actually spot that stuff. You'll probably be done with chapter 7 way before me. I'll post my findings about Ys VIII on Tuesday evening :)

I'm late to say it, but the game will probably be released in December. With fixed (in theory) performance and a better translation. This helps my busy fixing schedule.

Thanks for making the game look the best it possibly could! I'm playing it again with your fix and on nightmare difficulty ^_^ Even though I usually prefer RPGs with a high fantasy setting (AD&D), the Trails series is now my genre favourite.

Be aware that dgVoodoo breaks all logo/opening/ending movies (at least on my PC), showing a skippable black screen with no sound. I had to see the opening and ending of FC in DX9 mode. The same for the opening and after-prologue video of SC. I think the SC fix is ready, but I've been procrastinating about doing the blog post after I got immersed in Grim Dawn. Once I finish Grim Dawn, I'll publish the Grim Dawn and TitS SC fixes, more or less at the same time. Maybe tomorrow. Instructions for dgVoodoo will be exactly the same as in TitS FC.

So the game is finally out (Ys VIII, that is) after an embarassing amount of delays and excuses from publisher NISA. I've bought the GOG-version on launch day, despite the majority of Steam reviewers trashing the PC-port quality. Although I haven't actually started playing it properly, the port seems alright to me. At least as far as I could tell from trying to run the darn thing in 3D. 3D kicks in on the title screen, but once the game proper starts, it probably activates some sneaky borderless mode and reverts back to 2D, regardless of my settings in 3Dmigoto. I've noticed some people on Steam talking about a fixed screen resolution being used, which totally ignores the resolution selected in the graphics options. I can't make head nor tail of it yet, but will read more reviews and hopefully there'll be a patch fixing the issue.

I've read about it. What a shit port. Not even proper analog movement directions (which they said they'll fix). Locked resolution, even if it's 3200x1800, it's unacceptable. This doesn't deserve full price. I'll still help you however I can. First thing you should try is using Special K to force fullscreen. You can open its menu with ctrl+shift+backspace. Or you can force it in the ini. You can also try it in 3Dmigoto.

Thank you, but you honestly shouldn't bother with it at this point. The port is a hot mess for sure and I won't touch it again before NISA come up with a screen rez patch. I couldn't force fullscreen via .ini, Special K or 3Dmigoto, that's how broken it is. Let's just give Nippon Ichi another couple of months to fix the game and hope for Falcom to appoint Xseed as their publisher for future products.

Here's a quick update on Ys VIII, after it received 3 patches in 3 weeks: The publisher still hasn't fixed the internal resolution for fullscreen, so 3D won't trigger. At least they're on it and according to the roadmap, this will be addressed soon. Probably once they've dealt with the constant crashing stemming from the PC-port team's poor understanding of multi-threading. So it's 2D only for now and there are crashes galore, but the game itself is effin' amazing. Combat flow is unparalleled and so addictive, you just can't stop playing the damn thing :) I've bought the PS4 version as well, to at least be able to play it in 2D and without crashes.

I read that it actually has an exclusive fullscreen mode. Just in case, have you checked the Special K fix for this game?: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SpecialK_Mods/discussions/0/1693785035817147509/?ctp=212 https://github.com/Kaldaien/SpecialK/releases/download/sk_special_projects/SK_YS8.7z I heard it has options for internal resolution, shadow resolution, some performance improvements, etc. Maybe with that you can also force fullscreen if it isn't working. If what happens to you is that the glasses are working but the game is still 2D, it could be because the render target isn't being stereoized. Take a look at my PCSX2 fix, for example, where I stereoize the main render targets (TextureOverride sections).

Good news, everyone :) The latest update from publisher NIS fixed the internal rendering resolution and made 3D Vision kick in. I haven't experienced any crashes either, so it's perfectly playable now. All water shaders are messed up in 3D, but everything else I've seen so far looks great. After a massive clusterfuck launch, Ys VIII is now my game of the year.
Just in case, have you checked the Special K fix for this game?
