Since alot of ppl are not satisfied with the quality and/or the frequency of updates of the stereo 3d drivers, I suggest nvidia either improves the support (by increasing the budget for the team responsible for the stereo 3d driver development) or releases the complete source code of the 3d stereo drivers so coders all over the world will be able to modify the code pleasing the needs of the community.....
I don't want to sound ungratefully since nvidia made alot for the stereo 3d development, but once you show this new dimension to ppl, i think that you also automatically become in a way responsible for keeping this awesome technology up to date.......
I mean... how can the stereo 3d developer team release two stereo 3d drivers in a row (77.77 and 78.01) not noticing that they absolutely crippled the opengl performance for Doom³ (and Quake 4)...... Especially since Doom³ was one of the games nvidia did show off so much with...... I just can't believe the developer team had in mind to make me downgrade to version 71.89 everytime I want to enjoy Doom³ in stereo 3d (since it performes 300% plus faster with the 71.89 driver than with the 77.77 or 78.01 drivers)
To make it short: Please don't let this awesome technology die !!!!!

This is actually a good idea . Nvidia has already set the ball rolling and it's not having the resource to keep the motion why not let the world do it for free ? Soon the avalanche effect created by the enthusiasts will be more than enough to give the driver a critical mass and voilà , a free lunch . No a free feast for Nvidia to enjoy .
If Metabyte with its wicked3d driver can do it independently from the Nvidia driver almost 10 years ago, surely Nvidia can release the source code to the world without fear of exposing any trade secrets .
It's a sweet proposition, a sure thing . A success without effort . Even the most naive and innocent child can see this so clearly . What's there to lose ? everything is a bonus from there .
I urge Nvidida marketing department to have a open mind to grasp this opportunity to enrich the world with a generous gesture that will bring wealth to the company in return, that's a certainty far as I can see it .

/thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Awesome idea, they wouldn't have to worry about ATI stealing their technology they have no interest in supporting 3d. That’s why I switched to NVIDIA in the first place.

If NVIDIA's up to it, I'll support it as well. I'm just putting my name down in case they don't believe enough people would actually work on the project and it'd flop out of existence.

If at any time, any new features or functionality need any hardware testing / R&D at external level, I am committed to that task.
An observation:
Over the last few Stereo Driver releases, the only change has been the addition of some new games to the stereo profiles. nVidia don't hire devs part time, and even one single dev can completely overhaul a driver with new functionality and compatibility over the years they have had. Does this mean that the only thing the dev(s) do is play games all day "creating new profiles" (which imho are pretty useless as a whole).
Maybe its the devs that need a kick up the rear end too :P
Yes yes devs, I know this isnt going to grant us any favours, but come on guys, its been years since anything has actually been added to the driver. I know its a cushy job playing games all da... excuse me... "creating profiles", but please get on with it once in a while :)
As a community we have done so much. We have been extremely loyal to you, have offered countless suggestions, pleas, and even suggestions on how a new feature might be implemented, but we have not had any responses in return. What more do you want from us? Do you want us to beg? OK we are begging now /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />
Can you imagine how frustrating it is for us thousands of stereogamers? spending hours, even days, fiddling and tweaking registries, configs, and drivers, just to get one little game to work in stereo, and usually quite badly at that. If you dont intend to do anything about it, then please just say so. Then we can stop wasting our time with posts, suggestions, pleas every single day.
And before you go blaming the game devs, I have been in contact with quite a few over the years through their forums and enquiry systems. Guess what the answer was every single time. Yes, "its up to the graphics driver devs". Too right it is.
Bottom line: If you don't want to do it, make room for people who will.

If not totally open source nvidia may mantain its owning of the stereo and 3d drivers letting us just do the hard job for them for only a real stereo driver and the name of the programmers in it in exchange. That may be a good deal; isn´t it nvidia¿

While I agree it would be great if the stereo drivers were open source, I don't think it is possible without also releasing the source to their complete video drivers.
If you have ever looked into the files installed by the regular video drivers, the stereo settings and functions are present even inside there, so the stereo is totally integrated into the main drivers. The stereo drivers appear to mainly provide the menus, hotkey scanner, and other resources for the stereo to work.
I remember in the old days (right after the Revelator guys were brought in by nVidia) you could enable stereo in the regular drivers by setting up the registry keys, you just had to do without the settings tab, test utility and in-game hostkey support. I presume that is no longer possible with the latest drivers without the stereo package installed?

Thank you for listening! Tune in next week willya!!
Ähhhoum, where were we..?
YES, it´s a great idea this one, by the way, and I´m in...
I would spend some hours tweaking the lasersight for one thing!
