Dear all,
I see Acer H5360, Optoma HD66 and BenQ W600 are all 720P 3D compatible projectors. Which one is the best up to now? Also, which one is the cheapest 1080P 3D projector? JVC?
I will need to move to new home in May and want to have 3D entertainment then. Wondering should I buy a projector or 3D monitor, say GN245HQ (but not sure about its price yet)

The Acer I feel is the slightly better projector atm, as for 1080p 3d projectors they cost a alot as I you are aware, the GN245HQ is nice but is 23" so YOU really need to make up your mind if you want a Large screen or a 23" one

Ever thought about the screen being more important than the type of the projector itself? It is!
[/quote]
yes indeed. which kind of screen is suitable to 3D projector? in the past, I use grey screen. but as shuttle glasses will make part of the light blocked so I am not sure if I should change screen for it. any materials are better?

I've always wanted to know what exactly is THE best type of screen to use for 3D Vision, but in past inquiries everyone always seemed to have their own preference. It's one of the things that has kept me from taking the plunge and getting a projector because I want to make sure I have the best possible picture for 3D but can never get a straight answer on which screen type will give me that.

I am really contemplating buying this projector for 3Dvision.
I have a Samsung HL56a650 which came out in 2008 and has a colorwheel with the darkchip 3. I do not know the speed of the colorwheel (maybe 3x?) but some people complain about rainbows on my HDTV, and more specifically past DLP HDTVs. I have noticed no rainbow effects whatsoever on my HDTV and hope the colorwheel is not slower on this Acer projector.
I am also confused about the 1080p capability of this projector. Does the projector simply downsample the 1080p image to 720p? Does doing that make the 1080p image look sharper in 720p than running the image natively in 720p? So I wouldn't need to use FSAA and run my PC at 1080p and the 720p image projected by this Acer would look sharper, but not sharp enough to see the jaggies without running FSAA?
Last question, my Samsung has this somewhat annoying yellowish hue when in 3d mode. I have tried playing around with the color settings in the nvidia control panel to fight it, but I didn't have much luck. Does this Acer projector also have a yellowish or off color hue when in 3d mode? Or does it look like the same hues as 2d mode, only darker?

[Monitor]: Acer H5360 3D 720p Projector on 80" Screen
All digital vibrance does is make the colors look more vivid. It does not reduce the yellowish tinge in any way.
My Samsung DLP HDTV also has two 3D modes, simply called "mode 1" and "mode 2." When trying anything from games to tech demos to screen savers, I notice that some work properly in "mode 1" while others work properly in "mode 2." If an application is in 3D and in the wrong mode, it just doesn't look right in 3D, like some parts of the image are reverse popout or I don't really know how to explain it.
Does this Acer projector have two 3D modes to compensate for how different programs use it?
Finally, when using the Nvidia 3Dvision kit, do I need to connect the 3D sync out jack on the projector to the Nvidia emitter, like i do with my Samsung DLP to get it to work with 3D vision? Or can I just not use the 3D sync cable at all?

As a current owner for the Acer h5360 and a Samsung DLP LED 3D TV I can answer most of your questions.
The "mode 1" "mode 2" option on your TV just indicates which eye shutters first and the projector has this option as well. These days you can change the shuttering sequence on the projector, glasses, and software you are using...so you have to make sure everything is in the same sequence. The projector also has Nvidia 3D vision mode and DLP Link mode. DLP link mode is slightly brighter with the glasses off but they are pretty much the same when it comes to delivering the image to your eye. You an use the DLP link glasses together with 3D vision ones if using Nvidia 3D vision mode.
It does not use the 3D sync port. You just plug your base in to the computer and projector in the video card and off you go.

Oh, and for 3D do you use DVI to HDMI, or DVI to DSUB VGA? I have to decide which long video cable I should buy to go to the projector.

I've had my H5360 since it was released. I had to send it back about 2 months ago for a firmware update, which they did for free. I don't know about the other 2 projectors, but have had no problems at all with my device (other than firmware update). Which one should you buy?
1/ Are all of these certified and on Nvidia's list? I highly recommend for 1st time buyers.
2/ Go to www.projectorcentral.com and pull up a comparison of the 3. Just briefly, I see all 3 have native 1280X720, however the 5360 max out at 1920 X 1080, great for playing blurays and bluray 3d. EDIT - and increasing resolution from the PC when you want to - EDIT The other two max out at 1600X1200. Lumens about the same.
3/ When it says native 1280X720, that's what you get 3D, When something comes out higher native, I'll be buying that.
4/ You'll have to make the decision.
On your other question, if you can darken a room and want a 10 foot 3D video game or movie, projector is the only way to go.
Have fun,
Edit 2--- I use DVI port on video card to VGA adapter (full adapter that comes with the card), then VGA cord to 5360. Don't run more than 25 feet if you can. I contemplated HDMI, but I saved that port on the 5360 for input from Cable Box for the projector. Also, not using a hdmi splitter in this mix either as I have run in to HDCP issues with HDMI as you can only have 2 downstream/intermingled from Cable Boxes. My point, I've had no problems dvi/vga route.

When the projector goes into 3D mode, is there any change in the hue of color? Like I said, the only TV that I have experience in 3D with is my own Samsung HL56A650 which I have had for almost 3 years now. In 3D mode, there is this nasty yellowish hue that I can't get rid of no matter how much I try and tweak it out in Nvidia's advanced color settings in the control panel.
Is the H5360 pretty much the same colors in 2D and 3D modes, only darker in 3D (obviously)? Do any of you notice rainbows? How far do you sit from your screens to notice them if you do, and how big are your screens?

I have the 5360 and no change in color. 3d Blurays are incredible. Darker, correct.
Rainbows, very slight occur in 2D or 3D, actually, noticed more in 2D. This primarily happens when head or rapid eye movement occurs. Distance? Actually, I noticed it more down the hall, about 40 feet, probably because I was walking. I really only notice rainbowing watching movies. Really haven't noticed gaming, maybe distracted.
Screen is 80 inches wide and have it filled that way, horizontally. Image height about 45 inches. Couch front is 11 feet from screen. The 5360 is mounted inverted 4 inches from the ceiling about 10 feet from screen. There is a "Projector Calculator Pro" at www.projector.com and a bunch of other helpful tools in there. (no, I don't work for them...)

80" screen? Sweet, because that's about the same size as I'm goinng to have. This looks like an awesome portable screen on newegg, and on amazon.com it's cheaper and has lots of positive reviews:

yes indeed. which kind of screen is suitable to 3D projector? in the past, I use grey screen. but as shuttle glasses will make part of the light blocked so I am not sure if I should change screen for it. any materials are better?
Thanks!

All digital vibrance does is make the colors look more vivid. It does not reduce the yellowish tinge in any way.

Dear all,
I see Acer H5360, Optoma HD66 and BenQ W600 are all 720P 3D compatible projectors. Which one is the best up to now? Also, which one is the cheapest 1080P 3D projector? JVC?
I will need to move to new home in May and want to have 3D entertainment then. Wondering should I buy a projector or 3D monitor, say GN245HQ (but not sure about its price yet)
Please give me some advise. Thanks a lot!

Is the H5360 pretty much the same colors in 2D and 3D modes, only darker in 3D (obviously)? Do any of you notice rainbows? How far do you sit from your screens to notice them if you do, and how big are your screens?

When the projector goes into 3D mode, is there any change in the hue of color? Like I said, the only TV that I have experience in 3D with is my own Samsung HL56A650 which I have had for almost 3 years now. In 3D mode, there is this nasty yellowish hue that I can't get rid of no matter how much I try and tweak it out in Nvidia's advanced color settings in the control panel.

So sitting about 10 feet away from the screen you don't notice rainbows much, but moreso when further away from the screen?
