The Surge - 3D Vision Fix
  2 / 7
NVIDIA engineering has started to look through support data I provided about the particle problem, but they seem to have been distracted by my 4K (EDID modified) display. They are questioning how this display is possible, and wonder if am I using 3DTV Play or 3DVision kit. I provided links to the appropriate forum discussions requesting HDMI 2.0 support for 3DTV Play and sharing successful 4K EDID information. I hope this will encourage some type of broader 3D Vision support and product update within NVIDIA...

Your message confused me, I don't know if I must be happy or sad about this. Sad thing is they didn't know about all these EDID overrides and 4K 3DTV usage, even sadder thing is will Nvidia block modified EDID usage after this? I hope I'm just pessimistic and they'll make 3DV and 3DTV much better and more supported like Tridef.

Or some new Nvidia barriers...... hope Not. Big companies like Nvidia might react strangely to this kind of info. However is important to state that we own 3Dtvplay and/or 3Dvision even if we use this Edid mods.

I started my lengthy feedback discussion with NVIDIA support with the fact that I owned a 3DTV Play license, and I had requested formal changes (via Customer Support) to make 3DTV Play HDMI 2.0 compliant, in 2015. I also let them know that I purchased a 980, two 980Ti's, and a Pascal Titan X only because 3D Vision community support and the EDID mod work-around exist...

I hope all your efforts make them understand the love and the commitment of this great community to stereoscopic 3D gaming. Thanks for trying whyme466. In case they read here, they must know that most of the users in this community spend lots of money for better 3DV and 3DTV experience and for the love of S3D and for the same reasons as whyme466 did. Myself bought 2 3DV monitors, 2 3DTVs, 2 3DV kits, GTX 580, GTX 980, GTX 1080ti just for 3DV and S3D experience. If there were no S3D support I certainly would not buy any of these hardware. By support mainly I mean those awesome guys who developed tools and made fixes.

By the way, NVIDIA's stock, which has almost tripled in price over the past year (thanks largely to Pascal chips and AI software for self-driving cars), appears to be taking a bit of a tumble today (almost 7% so far today), as some analysts have notice weakness in NVIDIA's core gaming market... Perhaps someone within NVIDIA might seize this well-tested 4K gaming/driver technology, and expand it to finally update 3DTV Play to 2017 standards, including a Rift/Vive virtual fixed screen environment to use with the unique, WORLD-CLASS helixmod.blogspot game library. This could generate quite a bit of gaming community interest, if properly promoted by NVIDIA. Far too few people have experienced the current state of the 3D gaming, using the incredible fixes that have been created by this community!

Too few people ... yes, in my close or distant surroundings, I do not know anyone who has tested the 3d. And when I make them discover ... they are shocked.

Thank you for this! I'm going to buy the game to test it right now! Edit: Not sure why by 3D is not kicking in.. Running game as administrator (Right click thesurge.exe in common the surge bin) and running as administrator... The game loads but no 3d. When I just run the game from steam it does crash.. Not sure what could be the problem since the game does run and play, the screen even darkens a little but 3d does not kick in... Using latest drivers. Edit 2: Ok I fixed it.. Not sure what the problem was.. Maybe running it from Steam first messed it up.. I used the uninstall tool, patched the fix again and now its working... Looks great, ty!

I am not sure that they ever tested it with 3D Vision as it appeared after 3D Vision;) I thought I mention this, because if they could make Gameworks to works flawless in 3D Vision on non-SLI setups, that would be awesome;)

Unfortunately, NVIDIA engineering claims they cannot reproduce the particle problem, and the problem report will automatically close in 72 hours. They are willing to look at MSinfo32 *.nfo files from other users who are experiencing this problem, as well as associated picture/video examples, via a drop box (15 GB limit): (system data collection sufficient for now, link removed) I have sent them examples and my .nfo data, but I have a non-standard 3D Vision display (4K EDID), and they may tend to discount data from this setup...

I can confirm that I cannot reproduce the problem either. The only annoying thing I've noticed in 3-4 hours of gameplay is the broken fog/dust which renders only in one eye. I'm on W10 Anniversary and latest drivers with a single screen and a single gtx 970. Here's some screenshots:

Fog/dust rendering in one eye IS the problem... If possible, please share your MSinfo32 data via the dropbox.

Oh my bad I thought the particles were the problem because they get disabled as well when I press the F11 key along with the fog. I guess helifax couldn't disable the fog separately ?

Fog, dust = particles:) The problem appears only on non-SLI and you need to setup the DX10 Compute Shader flag inside the Nvidia Profile (Nvidia Inspector).

Yea sorry I didn't know they're all part of Gameworks, the fog, smoke and dust effects. I uploaded part of my system info and a new screenshot on your dropbox, whyme466. Thanks for taking this to nVidia. Game looks awesome nonetheless so big up to you helifax :)
