Monitor or projector?
So i've been eyeballin' this setup for a while, reading these forums and various reviews around the net, and i'd like some opinions about whats the real OPTIMAL display setup.
The alienware and acer 1080p lcds look pretty sweet, but i'm concerned about ghosting taking away from the experience.
I'd love the huge screen that I could get from the acer h5360 projector, but i've heard various concerns involving rainbow effect, lack of depth, and lower resolution.

Has anyone had experience with both? Even if not, can you convince me that one is better?

Thanks

Hi, at this moment in time 3D Projectors are only available in 720p.

I have the Alienware Monitor and love it, With it being a 1080p monitor, it is the best 3D monitor out at the moment.

Ghosting is a problem with all 3D monitors, with the Alienware ghosting is not too bad, i get quite a bit of ghosting in Just Cause 2 (mostly when it is daytime in the game), but it is playable and can't even notice it at times.

Have also been playing left 4 dead 2 and have no ghosting at all, so it really depends on the game.

I have not experienced/seen any of the 3D projectors, so i can't help you there, hopefully some 1 else can.

If i were you i would definately lean towards the Alienware monitor, i know there is a huge difference between screen size, but the main thing is that there is a huge difference between resolutions. I would definately go for the 1080 over the 720.

The Alienware may lack in screen size, but it definately makes up for it with the 1080p display. I am playing JC2 at the moment, and the amount of detail in the game at 1080 is mind blowing. /omg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':omg:' />

Hope that helps

Projector all the way, 720P is great and gives you a big jump in FPS for games.
I was playing Splinter Cell Conviction last night for the first time and from the reading I have done I thought this game might be a bit taxing on my GTX260OC but no issue's at all and I hadn't turned anything off or down detail wise. I only run one graphics card in my PC.

Ghosting these 120hz 720P projectors are the least of all from all reports.
RBE it turns out I am sensitive too it, my proper home theater projector 1080P LCD based I never had to think about RBE but I was aware of DLP tech having this.
I am very very picky when it comes to anything Picture quality wise and mate I can tell you it's no issue at all.
I find the only time I get RBE is if I sweep my eyes across the screen fast horizontally, just looking at my desktop if I flick my eyes to the mouse pointer in the middle of the screen back left and right across the whole screen I can make myself see it. RBE is not an issue, well for me a picky verging on videophile person it isn't and that's saying something.

Also you have the benefit of DLP link as an option which will open up a plethora of options to you.

If you have the room and space then its a no brainer as far as im concerned, Beamer all the way !

Ok, so they are 720P but is that really an issue ?.....ive said this before, but you do not really notice it with a 60" + screen.

Monitors are good and only until very recently (see Depth-Q) was a projector an affordable option, but with the Viewsonic, ACER and one or two others coming to martket , you have a real choice.

The Viewsonic is a lot cheaper the then ACER, has slightly less res, but until the HDMI format is agreed for 3D and they bring out an affordable 1080p, i am happy to strick with the VS until then but there is not much in it.

if i was buying now i would probaably go for the ACER.

oh, and i get ZERO ghostiong on the VS beamer.
