GTX 970/980 HDMI 2.0 1080p 60hz 3D
  1 / 2
Hi, Does anyone have the new GTX cards and can you confirm if they support 3DTV play at 1080p 60hz? I assume because of the HDMI 2.0 standard that there shouldn't be any bandwith issue with 1080p at 60hz. I'm planing on getting the 65" 4K LG OLED in a few weeks and I haven't seen any reports in the driver release of 1080p 60hz 3DTV play abilities. Is it possible that Nvidia cares so little about 3DV that they won't even bother adding support? Technically their would be not reason not to add support. HDMI 2 has more then enough bandwith for full 1080p 60hz gaming. I don't think you could get a better 3D vision experience then using a 4K passive 3D TV. Thats 1080p to each eye in passive when the set is 4K res.

You'll need a screen capable of receiving such a signal. Does that screen support it? I don't expect it'll work though, as 3D TV Play is limited to certain resolutions. It won't even try to push out 1080p/60hz.

The reason it wouldn't push out 1080p 60hz was because the bandwith of HDMI 1.4a didn't support it. Now with HDMI 2.0, it has the bandwith to support 1080p 60hz in 3D. My TV will be HDMI 2.0 I'm pretty sure 1080p 60hz 3D is supported under the HDMI 2.0 standard. I'll check into this, but I've been waiting years for HDMI 2.0 because it "should" support it.

The software itself won't allow a 1080p/60hz 3D signal to be output, regardless of the bandwith. You'd have to find a way to force it.

I shouldn't have to force it because 3DTV software should be updated to allow 1080 60hz through HDMI 2.0. I sent my concerns along to nvidia support, if anyone else has a 4k tv or plans on buying one, make your voice heard so we can finally play our games in 1080p on our televisions. I'm sick of playing on my crappy 3D vision monitors. I had a 55" OLED but only half res passive and it was night and day better in overall picture then any monitor or projector. The colours and infinite black made games that much more emmersive. Black and contrast are horrible on any LCD monitor or DLP projector. Playing a game like outlast on an OLED is a sight to behold!

As Pirateguy said, this is not a limitation with HDMI, it's just how 3DTVPlay is. There are EDID override 'hacks' which will enable 1080p 60Hz (passive) from 3DVision very easily on HDMI 1.4a. Though of course I do not advocate these methods as they contravene Nvidia's TOS etc etc :P

Stuff Nvidia's TOS....they are greedy pigs. They limit their software on purpose, not because of hardware ability. OP, just forget about 3DTV gaming mate. 3DTV are still lagging behind technology advances and even though your card supports 2.0hdmi, NO TV supports 2.0hdmi and none will until they are FORCED to. The majority of people don't know the difference between hdmi 1.4 and 2.0...so my guess is, maybe another 5 or so years until every TV is2.0hdmi. My advice, save your money, don't buy a TV and get a VR (oculus) headset for TRUE 3D immersion. It will make 3D look like a joke.
Um, actually, lots of TV's support HDMI 2.0... and I know, because I have one. I was playing Portal 2 just last night at 60fps at 4k resolution with 3D. The 3d Vision drivers haven't been updated to support more than 24fps 1080p, but if you use a third party driver such as Tridef you're good to go. Also, I have an Oculus DK2 as well, and, while the immersion is higher, the overall experience is still better running 3d on my 55" HDTV. Even though DK2 brought the resolution to 1920x1080, it is zoomed in with lenses and right up to your eyes so the perceived resolution is much, much lower. It looks like you're playing games at standard definition, so the 55" at 3840x2160 becomes a better experience. Once Oculus upgrades their res, the experience will be better on it, but it's not there yet.

I too have a 4k TV with HDMI2.0, and while it is awesome playing 4k at 60Hz, I'd really love to check out these games in 3D at 1080p/60Hz. Tomb Raider looked amazing on my 3D vision 2 monitor, but was way way way too small to be enjoyable, considering I last played it at 55". I guess I understand it not being their focus at launch of the GTX980, but it really should be in their pipeline...it's not a total drain on their monitor biz, because you still have to pay a 3Dvision tax for 3DTV play. So...I'm hoping it will come out sooner than later. I hope they get back to you...let us know.

Hopefully nvidia will update 3d vision as well but for now I'm happy with tridef.

They think crippling 3DTV play will sell them more 3D Vision monitors but the truth is it just makes people jump ship to tridef. It's like watching the titanic slowly heading towards the iceberg. Stupid dog!

Can you guys try opening support tickets with Nvidia? The more people complain, the better the chance that someone will implement 1080p 60hz with 3DTV play. I opened a ticket and they said they would look into it, which I highly doubt, unless more people complain. I want to play games on my 4k TV.

If it works in full HD 60hz (or Quad HD (2560x1440 px)) I'll buy a 4K Tv and I'll sell my Vg278H

I wonder if Nvidia will implement. After all, they want to sell the 3DVision product. If 3DTV now allows 1080p 60hz no one will buy another 3DVision kit + monitor.
Not true. Only 4K TV's support HDMI 2.0 and they aren't that cheap yet. 4K prices should be dropping soon however, as China will be pumping them out very soon, and you still need to pay for 3DTV Play if you don't own the kit. I got Nvidia to escalate this issue to level two and they may check out this thread which I linked. Please post here that you would like to see 3DTV play support 1080p 60hz on HDMI 2.0 video cards, which are the GTX 970/980 as of now and all future Geforce cards will be HDMI 2.0.
