Asus VG236 stuck on 59/60 Hz with gtx590
Hi

I have requested help from NVIDIA on this but am posting here in case anybody else has the same problem.

I connected a new ASUS VG236 monitor using the supplied dual link DVI cable. I have quad SLI enabled using latest 285 driver.

OS is Win 7 x64. When I go through the 3D setup everything is fine except that it gives the red warning about not running in the correct mode.
When I look at the resolutions and refresh rates there are no 1920 x 1080 @ 120Hz only the 60hz is shown.

The guy from NVIDIA said try another cable which I will do tonight (I will borrow one from work!).

I did have an earlier 280 driver which I installed 285 over. So I decided to uninstall everything NVIDIA related, clean with Driver Cleaner in safe mode and reinstall v.285 but to no avail.

If the cable does not work I will bite the bullet and do a clean install of Windows. If still no joy then after that it's bye bye ASUS VG236 and 3D :-(

It does seem a shame I cannot get 3D using two 590's !

I will post after getting another cable.

Cheers

Not seeing the 120Hz modes usually an issue with the cable, you need a dual link DVI cable to see them.
Usually the cables in the box are the best bet, but you've tried that.
Judging by posts on here people seem to have a lot of issues finding working replacement cables.
You might also want to try 3D without enabling SLI, just to see if it works, in case it's a software issue.

Update

Tried on my old Q6600 with a 8800GT card and the version 260.99 drivers supplied with the ASUS monitor with the same result.
Not sure if 3D Vision is supported with the 8800GT so was not too surprised.

So, I got another brand new DVI dual link cable (another £10) and tried that with the new GTX 590 machine and still the same problem (even with SLI disabled).

Beginning to think its the monitor now so I am just packing it all up to return to DAB's. No 3D for me until I can test something that won't cost if it does not work.
Have to try Battlefield 3 in 2D now :-(

Thanks ERP for replying!

Most likely its a cable issue, it needs to be Dual-Link DVI. But the included cable should be the right one. I have the same monitor, and did not have any issues setting it to 120Hz, so I don't know what else it would be. All those recent drivers will support it no problem. If you look at the cable, it should have a full grid of pins, see below:

If it is the correct able, maybe try switching which port it is on the video card. Might make a difference. Also, if you have any other monitors, unplug them and just use the 3D one for testing.

Maybe the connector on the GeForce card is defective ... have you tried to use the other one?
