AW2310 troubles
I just received my AW2310 and all is not well. I am hoping the problem lies with me and my lack of computer-smarts. I understand the the latest drivers do not work with the AW2310, so i installed the 195.62 3d vision drivers. It is now see's the AW2310 but there must be something wrong because games look horrible in 3D. The ghosting is *gulp* even worse then the Samsung and the depth seems all out of whack. I am wondering if i am suppose to revert my display drivers to 195.62 as well as i am still running 195.81.

Any help would be much appreciated and feel free to be as wise and belittling as possible because i am well aware i am truly a computer reject /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Uninstall all nvidia drivers (use guru3d driver sweeper) and control panel and install FULL CD 1.18 from the beta/archived area of the Nvidia Driver Download page.

Okay did that. Thank you Riot. It seems i get slight double images with many games, an example would be in WoW. When looking at my character i see on either side of him a slight double image and with buildings the same thing. Is that just to be expected? I have tried 120, 110 and 100 and i still see the effect. Same thing in Left 4 Dead 2, i see double images on street lamps and fences etc. I am seeing this effect at 25% depth, i haven't tried any higher and as with the Samsung the only way i could get the effect to lessen would be to turn the depth all the way down but whats the point of that? So i am wondering is all this just part of the experience? Oh and i called tech support awhile ago and i told them i was seeing slight ghosting on the letters of the test application and tech said that i shouldn't be seeing any there at all. That was with the samsung and yet i am still seeing that with the AW2310.

So i am confused. /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

P.S. If anyone else plays WoW in 3D, i am curious if you see ghosting/double image at the character select screen

Do you still get double images with one eye closed?

Yes with one eye closed i still see the double image. With left eye closed i see the effect on the right side and vice versa.

Thank you Riot, you gave about the only guidance there is around on the RIGHT way to set it up, but..

I STILL can't get the 3D vision setup to recognize the AW2310, even after a clean CD 1.18 install. And if you click on the "I know my monitor is compatible" link in the wizard, it just dumps you off on the general nVidia support page, which leads NOWHERE. The damn thing is marked Certified, so it bloody well should be 3D Vision Recognized!

Cleaned out all the drivers, even went so far as to do a fresh Windows 7 64bit install. FFS, you would think they could unify the 3D Vision driver with the regular GPU drivers...

The reason I asked is that there are some times when you just can't get part of a stereo image to look solid. You have convergence set for somewhere comfortably into your 3D scene, but then on, for instance, the character select screen you have models rendered much closer to the camera, and your eyes can't bring them into focus. However this sort of double image would dissapear if you closed one eye.

The point of stereo 3D is to be able to deliver seperate images to each eye, using the brains in-built depth perception. If you see a double image with one eye closed, it means there's a problem with the stereo implementation. It could be for one of many reasons - the screen pixels can't respond quickly enough, the screen and glasses aren't synched correctly (possibly due to a driver issue or input lag), the glasses don't go completely opaque etc. Since the general consensus here is that there is none or very little ghosting with a projector or DLP, then your issue it likely to be either the screen itself (i.e. LCDs may be currently just too slow to fully form 120 unique images per second) or a sync problem.

I think anyone who's followed LCD developements and owned a few of them wouldn't be surprised if LCD never gets quick enough for a perfect stereo 3D experience with shutter glasses. They're still too slow at certain colour transistions. LCDs often have input lag as well, which could well cause a sync issue.

Thank you Fish for that very informative reply. If it is a sync issue is there anyway that you know of to troubleshoot it? I am using the new Alienware AW2310. I had this same issue with the Samsung previously.

Hi All

There is an error we found in the 1.18 CD which causes the Wizard to have a failure on detecting the AW2310.

The good news is we have a fix!

I am trying to fast path an updated driver to the web by Friday.

Hi

we think we have a problem with CD 1.18. We can repro your problem. We should have a new driver online by end of the week!

I uninstalled my drivers 1.15 and installed Cd 1.18...Haven't had any issues at all. So I'm a bit confused on this thread. I'm glad Andrew is on top of any problems though. I will install the updated driver from him when it posts.

The only issue I've seen is in the Nvidia control panel, doing the eye test. The smaller eye in the bottom left ghosts a little bit. /sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' />

PS Shadowrun runs amazing with this monitor...

Ugg! Leave it to Dell to delay things! Now they tell me that it could be as long as the 27th before I get my AW2310 monitor due to demand! Why is it so hard to tell me that before I place the order?! :(
