I'm going to try out my Samsung UN55HU8700 HDMI-DVI input to make sure that it also supports Checkerboard mode. Since I can't try out my Nvidia 3D Vision PC ATM, I'll just connect my macbook and see if the hidden 3D modes will be available. I wasn't couting on that feature so It's going to be a huge bonus if these modes are available.
This 120hz 4K LED TV handles ghosting/crosstalk very well, so I assume that playing 3D games, Frame Packing, frame sequential or CB will be much better compared to my 2010 Samsung 3D Plasma. At least I hope so...

Any noticeable input lag on the UN55HU9000 or UN55HU8700?
What's the max resolution and refresh rate being supported via 3DTV Play in relation to Checkerboard or any other formats that you've tried?
I tried connecting my macbook air to the HDMI/DVI input of my Samsung 4K LED TV UN55HU8700 but I wasn't able to see the hidden 3D modes, only 2D-3D, SBS and under-over. I'm not sure why it's not showing these modes. Cybescott has a very similar TV, UN65HU9000 and he has confirmed that his TV supports checkerboard, unless my TV is a bit different in that regards.
Unfortunately I cannot connect my 3D Vision PC to my new 4K TV cause they are in different places and my tower PC is to heavy to move around besides all the cables connections that I would have to disconnect.
It's strange though that I can't find an input option in my 4K TV's menu where you have to rename HDMI/DVI input to PC, so maybe that's why I can't make checkerbard available.
The 4K TV's menu is very different from my 2010 Samsung plasma where there is an input menu where you can rename each HDMI connection to DVI, PC, TV, STB etc, but the 4K doesn't have such option.
If other folks have the same TV or a similar 2014 Samsung TV, please let me know how can I rename the HDMI/DVI input to PC or if that's done differently...

On a Samsung TV rename the hdmi port to DVI PC .

francomg, sorry for the late reply. It must be real annoying that your new TV doesn't do any of the 3D PC modes that the hu9000 series does.
I did a lot of research for a TV set from a gaming perspective and having the best 3D support for gaming was a must for me. Also, I don't buy TV's on a regular basis so this one has to last me awhile, barring any hardware failures, of course. :) The Samsung hu9000 series fit my requirements for me. Just wish it wasn't so expensive. :( Added bonus, RBG full range support with 4:4:4 in PC mode.
To confirm, my Hu9000 can do the following when in PC mode:
When the TV is connected to a computer:
The (Horizontal Line), (Vertical Line), and (Pixel)/(checkerboard) settings can only be selected when the computer's resolution is set to 1920x1080, or the computer is connected to the TV via a HDMI-DVI cable.
The (Frame) setting can only be selected when the computer's resolution is set to 1920x1080 and the frequency is set to 60Hz.
Basically any of the PC 3D modes that Samsung has and that Nvidia currently supports are restricted to 1080p60 or the crappy 1080p24 and 720p60 modes. Ghosting is still present when playing 3D Vision enabled games but I can usually reduce it greatly through setting adjustments. Overall, the 3D game playing is real good, even with the 1080p restriction with Checkerboard.
I have used Tridef software for their "side by side support". Samsung's HU9000 series can do top/bottom and side by side at 4k resolution. I played "Alice, Madness Returns" in side by side mode in 4k@60Hz and the bump in resolution quality over 3D Play @1080p was noticeable. Also, the game had less ghosting with Tridef than 3D Play.
I just wish Nvidia would update their 3D Play software for Side by Side and Top/Bottom support.

I played "Alice, Madness Returns" in side by side mode in 4k@60Hz and the bump in resolution quality over 3D Play @1080p was noticeable. Also, the game had less ghosting with Tridef than 3D Play.
I just wish Nvidia would update their 3D Play software for Side by Side and Top/Bottom support.
Anyway, PC mode disables all the extra image settings, like HDMI Black levels, Dynamic contrast and other important image treatment modes, so the image looks a little washed out, so it doesn't look as nice as gaming mode for example.
At least I have my 27" 120hz Samsung monitor to play games in 3D Vision using a modified hack EDID, since this monitor is not supported by 3D Vision. It has a glossy screen so it resembles a TV in a smaller size. In my opinion it beats hands down any 3D Vision monitor in image quality, including Asus.
