Request simple feature with big payoff radial brightness control
The short: A feature to gradually dim the brightness of the screen radially out from the center of the screen to lessen the effect of the brightening/white-washing of the picture when viewing it at an angle, which is a problem for users owning 24"+ screens.

The long: As more and more people buy larger and larger panels to increase immersion and to enhance the 3d FOV, or to watch Nexflix and youtube video, more people are going to start noticing that the black levels are very different the further away from center when viewing at a close distance. The brightness appears to be greater in these areas as well. It not just more of the white haze from the screen itself, because more detail can clearly be seen the greater the angle to the point that something almost totally dark and intangible in the center of the screen appears clear at the edges of the screen. When viewing similar objects like trees in a forest scene, it becomes much more intrusive when the trees in the center are dark, while the trees near the edges appear much lighter when they clearly shouldn't be. I first noticed this using a 24" monitor a long time ago. It became a real downer when i upgraded to a Dell 30" monitor (3007wfp-hc r.02 horrible monitor for games imo, I know...blasphemy). The picture in dark games like Thief 3 started to appear washed out only halfway to the edge of the monitor from the center. Theres tons of dark games out there now, like Metro 2033, but pretty much everything, game or movie has periods of darkness in which this is very noticeable when viewing at the normal PC monitor viewing distance. I've heard it said that bigger is better for 3d, and after using it for the past couple days playing Metro 2033 on a greater that 30" TV screen, i agree (and im hooked on 3d for good btw), but this brightness increase from the center just sucks when viewed close. I know this is a problem with the LCD technology and it might be solved with OLED technology (if my oled phone screen is any indication), but for the sake of people who will be stuck with LCD tech, this would be very welcome.

This is the equivalent of hotspotting on silverscreens, only silverscreen is better cause projectors have higher dynamic range anywaywhereas with TN LCD you have like 3x 6 bit or 3x 8bit. And OLED is not good for active 3d, both local dimming and field sequential displays are better.

This should be part of some user controlled post processing scheme, we should have control on that nVidia brand subpixel anti aliasing , and I want to interact with the Z value (distance from screen).

What if nvidia could give us such post processing stuff where you could even incorporate Z (into aliasing, and some sort of 3d DOF! ) , that'd rock.

Only good HUD I saw in the last years is the one in Borderlands. When you turn it in ,and turn it off, its animated! Crytex stuff is nowhere as good!

I just wanted to note that i notice a large decrease in color saturation on this Sony TV im using all well the higher the angle. The reds on this TV just about vanish at 65'ish degrees. This Sony ndknx711 TV is very new and got a "best 3d picture yet" claim by its reviewer on CNET asia, so its not a cheap one. Supposed to have the same picture quality of the nx810, a 240hz version. If Nvidia considers the radial brightness idea at all, I hope they investigate this idea too.

Perhaps for multi-monitor setups, you could perhaps choose the intersection point for each monitor, or point at which your head in its viewing position would intersect the screen plane perpendicularly.

I noticed another benefit this feature would have if implemented.

Basically since the edges of monitors effectively brighten when sitting close, viewing a game or movie in a darkroom leaves a noticeable edge around the screen, even in a scene that is pitch black all around the edges. In dark games, pitch black areas are common. If you eliminated that edge, the picture could lead to a more immersive experience in those scenes due to the absence of any discernible artificial edge to the world. Here is an example.

Heres another benefit of a radial brightness control. Lowering the visual level of crosstalk at higher angles. Below are two photos of my screen showing picture of test results of crosstalk across a few different displays that a review site put out. Thats why the levels of crosstalk vary in the same photo. The first one is taken straight on. The second one is taken at a slightly shallower angle I see the edge of my screen at. As you can see, the crosstalk is practically highlighted.
