I rarely agree with ratings but its not that far off. I assume this is about shadows...
Do this...
"Shadows are now properly fixed in Skyrim 1.6! Just change bDeferredShadows=0 in your skyrimPrefs.ini to use the old shadow rending method:
bDeferredShadows=0"
In all honesty even IF you had to turn off shadows. There are ALOT of games rated excellent that you have to. But you can leave shadows on, so I agree.

With this fix the only remaining issue is that the water is messed up if you swim underwater and look up. A small issue. Skyrim is a really amazing game in 3D, especially after setting up presets for when a weapon is and isn't drawn.

The fact that you have to use a 3rd party fix, or editing ini files automatically should negate an excellent rating. And yes ive known about them for a while. But its very disingenuous to "claim" an excellent rating, and quite frankly is false advertisment.

Welcome to Nvidia's 3D Vision. There are 100's games with wrong ratings/wrong profiles/etc.
Though tbh alot of us do ALOT more then open an ini and write a number and drop a file to get games working.

Don't use the fix then? Instead enjoy the 6 or 7 games that work from the get go.

@Cookybiscuit
Lol exactly.
I started writing about each game I play (starting yesterday). So then I play Clive Barkers Jericho which is also rated Excellent. If you look at directions its insane how I had to get it playable.

Plus one!
Astonished people are mentioning Helix!
It's like you all assume people who have bought 3D Vision automatically read these forums. You assume every gamer reads these forums. Really? 3D Vision has always been marketed for everyday gamers. This is not TriDef. CONVERGENCE SETTINGS IN ADVANCED ANYONE?
Believe it or not, not every user of 3D vision is a nerd like we are. I bet of we were to compare numbers of members of this forum with sales of 3D Vision there would be differences.
If nvidia mention use of 3rd party drivers they should also make them easy to find if they are to claim a game is excellent

I'd argue that they are more than likely, people who aren't nerds for the most part are not going to spend $1000 on video cards.

Quite a conundrum I think. The fact is, Helix Mod exists and Skyrim IS excellent with the mod. On the other hand, it's no good with the work of Nvidia alone. So what is Nvidia to do? Hard ethical question.
But the rating could also just be noise. Nvidia rates some games too high, other too low.

Shadows, water, skybox, aurora,...A little too much for an 'excellent" rating.

Actually, if I remember correctly - Skyrim WAS quite excellent when it came out - or at least almost. The sky and moon's rendered at the wrong distance and water reflections were a bit funky.
'Dorkit' came out with one of the 1st sets of mods for Skyrim that fixed these problems. Then patch v1.6 happened and shadows were all messed up. When that problem turned up a little forum searching and "bDeferredShadows=0" was an easy enough fix.
I think I logged over 400hr's on that game without a 'Helix fix'. The water/sky/moon were rather annoyances than anything 'game breaking' like the fubar shadows were.
I do agree, that the Nvidia rating is rather worthless. I recall purchasing a game that was '3DVision ready' that was mostly unplayable in 3D and was rather pissed off. (the developer had made serious changes in the game AFTER sending Nvidia prerelease code when they had based their rating on, so not technically Nvidia's fault)
There are a few independant '3D rating' sites that attempt to review games 'worthyness' with Tridef and 3Dvision drivers, however they suffer from the same and more problems. A game might be reviewed as 'fair' with Tridef but could be excellent with 3Dvision and not reviewed or the current game version may perform/work much better/worse then the version reviewed or there may be 'Helix fix's for many of the issues that were never mentioned or reviewed.
Gaming in 3D requires some reading, research and often times some manual patching.
