Can I run it?

Here they say that a 460 SLI is a bit better than the 480 in 3D. And I use a 760 processor not 750(don't know if that makes a big difference). But what would be the bottleneck? The processor or the 460's?
[/quote]

I did not see any 3D benchmarks there. On this forum "3D" means "nvidia 3D vision". It does not means "3D game engine" here.

On that site, in "Test System & Setup", the monitor is a 60Hz Samsung 305T. They are not testing with nvidia 3D vision.

My guess is .... ~3Ghz i5 750/760 with 460SLI is not likely to be a big cpu bottleneck **while 3D vision is on**. But it depends on the game, game settings, resolution, drivers, ....

There are some games which often run the cpu at its limits. In this case, the cpu will often bottleneck. People complain about these games because they run slow even with awesome video cards and average cpu's. That's why graphics are processed on a graphics card instead of on the cpu. The cpu cant process everything fast enough. But some games still process too much on the cpu.

In other words, there is no guarantee that the i5 750/760 wont bottleneck in some games in some situations. It's not the end of the world if your cpu bottlenecks. It just limits the max possible fps at that moment. There is always some "bottleneck" in your system which limits overall performance. It's normal.

But SLI 460's beat 480 in performance and cost. SO why should I buy one? So the 1 gb versions and a better processor.
Okay thanks for the tips guys!

Ryme is right... buy a single 480 or 580 for now... you can always pop in another 480 or 580 a few months later to go SLI.
460 is already obsolete !

But the 580 is €400+. And thats too much for me. I'm actually already above my budget. And the GTX 480 is also more expensive than the 460's. The 460's in SLI also have better performance. So i'm not ging to buy a 480.

You should look in to at least 470s then. The extra vRAM and processing power on those cards could have a huge impact on 3D. A good idea would be to get the best single card you can afford, then upgrade to SLi when you have money, thereby ensuring you will have the best performance overall, overtime, instead of getting 460s now, then when a newer game comes out that you really like, but it eats those cards alive, you're stuck with another upgrade.

That's my opinion though... and as you can see by my sig, I'm not one to do "midrange" hardware, 580 on the way, my current setup, 285 Classifieds, were the top of the line for their Generation, and before that I had 9800GX2s in SLi, and before that 8800Ultras in SLi... BUT the 470 is a great card, and will give you a good bit more performance than a 460, and then if you compare SLi-ed 470s to 460s, well... you'd see the price/performance is worth it, especially in 3D.

Note: I am not experienced in 3D, all the statements I just made are based on information I've seen others say that ARE experienced with 3D... so blame them. lol

I bought 2 gigabyte 460 'super overclock' cards and have been pretty darn happy with them. They're faster than 460s and almost as fast as a 470 without the high temps/loud fan noise i've read about. They're about $40 a peice cheaper too. I had to install an extra fan by the cards to keep the bottom card from heating up the upper one a bit, but the fan also nicely drowns out the distracting sounds of vid card fans starting/stopping.
-Have fun!

If you are already above your budget, then maybe skip sli. SLI requires: motherboard$$++, power supply$$++, larger case for 2 cards$$++, aftermarket cooling (maybe).
Or go SLI but only buy one 460 now and buy a used 460 later. Or buy one used 480/470 now and another later.

If you have an old computer (maybe with nvidia card?), then strip it down and use some parts to build your new gaming computer.

The most important thing in 3D gaming is .... the monitor and glasses. Do not buy the cheapest 3D monitor. Better to buy a good 3D monitor and cheap computer. You can keep the monitor for many years and slowly upgrade the computer later.

No I'm not that much above my budget, but I meant to say I don't want to spend much more money than I do now. Because a dual 480 or a dual 460 makes a big difference in price. I'll think about the more expansive 1gb 460's. Here is my link:
http://azerty.nl/winkelmandje/winkelmandje/?legen=1&product%5B290728%5D=2&product%5B305581%5D=1&product%5B252721%5D=1&product%5B225309%5D=1&product%5B301852%5D=1&product%5B260614%5D=1&product%5B7517%5D=1&product%5B212287%5D=1&product%5B245679%5D=1

The prices will drop a bit when they get more... acquirable? I mean they are easier to get.

That is a *very* nice cooler on that 460. I dont understand why all 460/470/480's dont have at least dual fans.
My 260 has dual fans. Usually stays at 40% speed. almost never hear it. No way I will upgrade to a 460/470/480 with a single fan.
The gigabyte cards with triple fans look so tempting ... and so does the 580 with vapor chamber.
