I'm certainly not holding my breath that this fixes our problem.

Me either, but I think they worded it wrong. It could mean exactly what we were hoping (i.e. you can now play in 3D without any performance degrading).

In all likelyhood, the same faulty code, that leads to a performance issue when the 3DVision service is active/installed (but 3DVision is disabled) is also responsible for the general perfomance issue when 3DVision is actually used.
What nVidia did in their "fix" is to make sure, that this call to the 3DVision driver doesn't cost any performance hit, when 3DVision is disabled. They could do that quite easily in their driver.
What they couldn't do is to make sure that this call doesn't cause any performance hit, while 3DVision is active... which makes a lot of sense, if you think about it. The call is supposed to do something, and that just costs a bit of time.

Amorgeddon, it was explained earlier in the thread. Six steps:
1. Enable stereo through the Nvidia control panel
2. Run services through the run in the start menu or the windows control panel directory
3. Find and stop the Nvidia 3dvision process
4. Run Witcher 2
5. Alt+Tab and restart the process in services
6. Alt+Tab back in the game and play :)
The shadows will be messed up unless you set depth to minimum, so be sure that's the first thing you do, after that just tweak convergence and save the profile.
Thanks. That solution should be on the first message of this thread. Lets see if Witcher 2 is on Steams summer camp sale tonight.

I do hope Grestorn is right and I am wrong, but as I said it is really weird that switching off Nvidia s-3d optimizations for the game yields a better performance. You do still get a working s-3d, but no performance slowdown and wrong shadows...and this is a gamecode problem??? Not likely, but let's hope it was, since it isn't looking like Nvidia is doing anything about it.

nVidia already communicated that the problem is caused by a malwritten routine in the game and that they're working with CDPR to fix it. What more do you expect from nVidia? They can't force CDPR to release a fix.
That's why this nVidia bashing is childish. Even CDPR bashing is childish, since you have to realize that there are many other bugs and it's their perogative to fix them in the order they seem appropriate.
within reason, yes. But again, you're targetting the wrong party here.

Umm how did a title so buggered up in 3d get advertised as 3d vision ready? Which by nividia's on definition means "works perfectly". In two monthst what have they don to resolve the issue? I'm still not able to play the game, AFTER 2 MONTHS, how dare you say that this is an acceptable practice and say others are bieng childish for not bieng happy with what has occured here.

oh, it's all so clear to you both? Then you obviously must know exactly what happened, who screwed up, who's able to fix the code and who can control when this fix is deployed?
Well, if so, then why don't you share this wisdom?
If you know as little as we all do, then keep your mouthes shut, because then you know nothing. Having this logo on the package doesn't mean that nvidia is suddenly responsible for a flawless performance of the title, not even of the 3D functionality.
You obviously know nothing about programming, the things that can go wrong, how responsibilities are distributed if a software works together with a middleware (in this case nVidia's drivers), so please keep your opinions to yourself and don't pretend that you know exactly who is to be blamed.

Lets see if Witcher 2 is on Steams summer camp sale tonight.
..oh there is also patch coming up.

Umm how did a title so buggered up in 3d get advertised as 3d vision ready? Which by nividia's on definition means "works perfectly". In two monthst what have they don to resolve the issue? I'm still not able to play the game, AFTER 2 MONTHS, how dare you say that this is an acceptable practice and say others are bieng childish for not bieng happy with what has occured here.
nVidia already communicated that the problem is caused by a malwritten routine in the game and that they're working with CDPR to fix it. What more do you expect from nVidia? They can't force CDPR to release a fix.
That's why this nVidia bashing is childish. Even CDPR bashing is childish, since you have to realize that there are many other bugs and it's their perogative to fix them in the order they seem appropriate.
