Sorry about that didnt meant to upset you with my ignorance.

I would be the first to tell you I do not know about C++

I just see no reason why we couldnt be given the choice at least to run optimized code, at our own risk.

And the fact that vast swathes of people are using this mod with great success, I see even further reason to call them lazy as they clearly did not test it! not even try!
[/quote]

Remember that most people are probably just happy playing and enjoying the game + you have no proof of what they have or haven't tested.

'We' already knew that the game underperforms on current hardware which would indicate a lack of optimisation (plus it's obviously an old engine) but can you really imagine that Bethesda would release a separate optimised version?

Software testing is incredibly involved and I agree it would be nice to have a choice, but the reality is that there is hardly any benefit to Bethesda from doing that.
Even it it was at our own risk, there's not a chance in hell that people wouldn't moan and complain if there were problems, plus it would be a big burden to them in support terms.

I completely agree that it's pretty crappy though! They clearly could have done more to improve performance but I suppose it just wasn't a priority and they tried (tried) to concentrate on making a game without bugs :-)

lol yeah i just read about this last night. I heard it had some serious bugs that still need ironed out though. Have you guys ran in to any yet?

I've actually spent $100+ on trying to get my cpu OCed further this month between buying an even better cooler and faster fan and lapping gear, just cause cpu clockpseeds seem to be the only thing that bring up the minimum FPS limit. FPS in towns gets down as low as 17FPS when almost everywhere else in the game is 60+. seems like fire/smoke/fog or other particle effects are one of the biggest culprits. But when you're looking at your GPU/CPU usage and only seeing ~50% on each during those times, its the most infuriating thing in the world. We spend hundreds and thousands on computers to be able to be able to play things smoothly and then a game cant even make use of half of the power there.

really, really anxious to see this progress, hopefully it will be incorporated into an official patch, as some suspect! this guy should definitely get some $ for fixing bethesdas **** up.

I never ran into any problems but there were a few verified and tracked down to an incorrect function in the original code. Its since been fixed in version 02 and later:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4387

I've also read some conflicting reports that this doesn't work with ENB AntiFreeze, which I'm sure many of us are running now with Boris' water fixes. I've personally seen improvement with this mod while running ENB series.

Also, for those who want to defend Bethesda on this, there's some more interesting comments from the author of the original mod code:

Well i decided to install this and try it out. I'm not getting any better framerates with it though. I've been using Whiterun as a test. If i go in the main gates or fast travel to whiterun, as soon as i load in i am getting 14FPS with or without the mod. I used to the console command to make sure that it was active and it was, and i checked the log to make sure the mod loaded up and it did.

Any suggestions? I do have AntiFreeze installed, is there an easy way to uninstall it to see if thats the problem? I really want higher FPS more than i want any water/sky fixes TBH

*edit*

I just ran the skyrim launcher and it redetected my graphics options and auto changed them, so i set them back where i had them and now i am seeing a very slight improvement. Getting 17fps where i was getting 14. But walking around whiterun seems smoother overall by a good bit. other than right by the entrance at the main gates the FPS was above 20 at least.

my cpu/gpu usage is still around 50%. pathetic.

Whats the command line for the 'log'? Can't seem to find it in the list. I want to make sure that the performance mod is actually loading.

I can't see any noticeable improvement in Whiterun, or Markath...

I have both Boris's sky fix, and Antifreeze water fix loaded.

Make sure you guys are launching the game with SKSE_loader.exe then you can check to see if TESVAL.dll loaded properly by looking at SKSE.log in your Skyrim root directory, should say:

[code]SKSE runtime: initialize (version = 1.4.2 030A0000 01CCC34CC565813F)
imagebase = 00400000
runtime root = C:\Skyrim\
plugin directory = C:\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\
checking plugin C:\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\TESVAL.dll
plugin C:\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\TESVAL.dll (00000001 TESVAL 00000002) loaded correctly
init complete[/code]
