Decline of 3D Vision - Thought you all should know - Dark Times Ahead :(

3DCarnage, if you're keen to learn, bo3b has actually put together a school to learn how to fix games. It's surprisingly approachable, even for someone like myself with no programming/shader background at all. Give it a try. wiki.bo3b.net/index.php?title=Bo3b%27s_School_for_Shaderhackers

I am new here and have only made a few threads and thanks to all the replies...I've got everything up and running fairly nicely. But I don't get why this 3dVision is like some secret society thing and more people aren't aware of it. I've heard of 3d vision in the past and but never enough to be interested in it. I only got into it because I was playing Tombraider 2013 on my new set top box connected to my 3D TV and it went into 3d mode by itself...put the glasses on and BOOM, I was gaming in 3D...if it weren't for tombraider..I would have never really known about it. Then after seeing that....then I got interested in Mods and EDID override and all the other stuff to maximize 3d play. Trine 2 is epic in 3d and not even that old of a game...how could something so awesome by dying out? I have never seen this stuff displayed or advertised...its too bad they kept it like a secret underground thing.

This is really great stuff. I have always wanted to understand how to fix broken 3D effects in my games. Even though your post wasn't intended for me I have to say, thank you very much for directing me to this info. Currently i'm interested in playing Dragon Age Inquisition in 3D, i've been following the forum thread for that. It seems the best tool for fixing DAI is 3Dmigoto. Is there any instruction for 3Dmigoto similar to the bo3b's HelixMod tool guide? I'd like to try using 3DMigoto but I could really use some kind of tutorial or guide similar to the wiki you recommended. Thanks for any help.

Hey, good for you amourfouu! Just a heads up, the quiz for lesson 5 is almost impossible at this point, so if you struggle with it then just skip it. It ended up being a harder fix than bo3b thought. As for 3DMigoto, a lot of the basic skills are transferable. bo3b has put the lessons on a temporary hiatus for now as he's been really busy working on all the big games that have come out recently (Shadow of Mordor, Alien Isolation, Dragon Age, etc), but he's said that many of the skills are fairly transferable. 3DMigoto is a little more immature at this stage, and often requires the actual wrapper itself to be adapted for the game it's being used on, which is more of a programmer speciality (and he's working hard on improving that). In the meantime, the skills you'll develop from working with Helixmod/DX9 will definitely be a good background, and I believe he plans to expand the lessons to cover 3dMigoto down the track.

I used to map for a source mod several years ago, then i got married and bought a house and...you get where I'm going with this lol. I've also pondered in C++ a time or two as well as created custom textures and shaders. While I make no claim to fame, I do however have somewhat of a background. Also I'm still working on getting a fully funtioning rig up and going. I've ordered my first of three projectors to which i need to edit the EDID in order to get 3DVS running properly. I sold my 760's recently so I'm stuck with my old trusty 9800GT until someone release a 970 with a reference GTX cooler "Damn you Nvidia". I plan to go 3-way SLI so I should be able to help test games for any issues. We all know that 3-way can be a major PITA at times...I doubt 3D in 3-way is any better. Refer to previous quotes lol After tax time I should be back up to speed in order to put forth any good effort. Bo3b,do ou have a TS3 server, or know of one that yourself, or other use for keeping ideas on the same page?

Hey, that's great to hear you have some experience! I'm sure that will come in handy. 3-way SLI in 3D doesn't deliver improvements over 2-way SLI about 90% of the time, several have tried. It works better in 2D, but in 3D it doesn't do much at all. The theory is that with 2-way SLI+3D, each card renders for one eye. In 3-way, the load can't be divided that way.

It's just the usual fall deluge of games that showed some more weak spots in 3Dmigoto that needs addressing. This is all genuine next-gen stuff, not just marketing dribble, where the games use extensive SM5 features, which are not well supported in 3Dmigoto yet. Getting there, but it's uphill. interesting. I just got a 3DV-1 kit on Ebay for $82 so I've never even tried 3DV. I used 3D Play a while back and it worked well for what it was. I think it is way over priced though. Regardless a triple projector panorama desktop for gaming is pretty kick-ass...3D or not!! One would have an advantage even running dual display. In FPS games your FOV automatically gives a person the upper hand. Despite the minimal increase in 3-way performance I am building my rig for aesthetic reasons as well. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the GTX 3-way SLI bridges prior to their release...hence the need for Nvidia reference coolers. I'll be happy with a 5% increase with 3-way 3DVS.

Forgot to add one that cuts to the chase a bit, better than reading that 120 page Helix thread. This one is probably more useful after you do the first lessons in school for shaderhackers. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2014/01/learning-how-to-fix-games.html
