FOR NVIDIA SUPPORT: 3D VISION FLICKERING ISSUE Please help us fix this problem.
  5 / 16
I've done everything discussed and double checked I did every thing listed in the knowledge database 'troubleshooting flicker', nothing has helped. Is my kit defective? The monitor + glasses was a lot of money so if something is defective I'd like to send it back for replacement....

Also from the site guidelines:
Please note these forums are not an official customer support channel for NVIDIA products. If you require direct assistance on a specific NVIDIA-based product, please contact the manufacturer of the product directly.

I have the same problem. Only with Call of Duty: MW2

I can Definitely confirm that this only happends with SLI enabled. Turning it off completely resolves ALL flickering.

I'm running Vista 64x with 2x GeForce 9800 GT

Emitter plugged into directly into MB
Supplied Cable
No other UBS activity

To SLI, or not to SLI? Stereoscopic or Hi-Fiexperience. Why can't I have both?? I paid for it!!

Hey guys,

I have the same. And the most flickering is also at COD: MW2.

1. No
2. No
3. Yes

I have only 9 days left to bring it back to my dealer. So can somebody tell me if we can get a solution in this time? Otherwise I gonna bring it back.
I tried it at other games but there it didn't happen.

My System is:
Vista Business 64
Intel Q6600 @ 3.2 Ghz
Asus P5K Premium
Zotac Geforce 275 Amp Driver 195.62
Creative extreme gamer
2 x Samsung syncmaster

Actually, turning off SLI doesn't help me at all. I've found turning down graphics helps, but now I borked my homm5, I changed its resolution and now the screen only flickers different colors when I try to start it. I even tried uninstalling/reinstalling but the setting must be in the registry somewhere.

After turning down graphics in spore it only happens once every 15 minutes or so which is livable, but still, I don't understand if everyone's having these problems?

NVIDIA SUPPORT, if you're out there: Do I need to return my glasses and get a new pair? Or is this a known defect with all of them? Was it just a bad batch?

-- i haven't registered the glasses yet, I'm hoping that some sort of support opens up when I do that.

Hi all -

I've got the same problem; the video posted earlier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJcZRAbECR4) is exactly what I'm seeing. I've tried everything listed here, but no luck -- no change, even. I'm running a single GPU (GTS250) and a single monitor, so that's definitely not the problem. I asked Nvidia Live Chat about it today, and they said that if installing new drivers didn't fix it (the link she gave me was actually for -old- drivers, but I tried that too), then the glasses would have to be returned. I ordered these direct from Nvidia, by the way. Any other suggestions would be welcomed, though!

Regards,
Kilo

(In answer to Andrew's questions:
- Plugged directly into motherboard, have tried several ports
- No USB transfers (using wireless -- but not IR -- USB keyboard and mouse)
- Using original cable)

The lack of community support is unfortunate. It seems we're a small band of people.

Regardless, after a couple of days of hardcore troubleshooting they are working properly now. I must have followed the 'troubleshooting' section in the knowledge base twice. Finally I uninstalled all of the drivers again and put the ones on that came with the CD (as opposed to the newer ones online). I still get flickering on the set up wizard, but now if i run games that normally flicker in 1200x800 resolution they do not flicker anymore.

I wish we knew why they flicker, or nvidia would give a better official response.

Moral of the story is to keep trying things until they work. They're awesome when they do.

Well, just an FYI, I finally got bumped up to "Level 2 Tech Support" and their only conclusion was that if updating drivers didn't work, then the glasses are defective and must be returned to the place of purchase. Of course, in this case, I bought them direct from NVidia, and so far they haven't responded with information as to -how- to return them...

Hi All,
Just got off live chat on the Nvidia support page. Spoke to a real good guy called Dave.
Nvidia are well aware of the flickering/blinking in certain games/drivers/chipsets etc.

They are going to have a look at this forum and have been provided youtube vids on the issue.
They are also seeking as much information as possible to try and replicate and bring the problem down to the lowest common denominator.
I'll keep you posted on how we can all help try and help eachother to fix this issue.

Some additional info: I just bought an extra pair of glasses -- they show exactly the same flashing as the original pair. In spite of the fact that NVidia told me to return the glasses, I find it difficult to believe that it could be two defective pairs from widely different parts of the country. Not impossible, but highly unlikely. That says to me that it's either something in the setup or something in the IR tower. I'm also sometimes (but not always) getting flashing in the NVidia test screen, so it can't be strictly a game issue, either. I do wonder if it's relate to the load on the graphics card, though. I hope we can figure it out.

Also, toggling 3D on and off often causes Windows 7 (64-bit) to blue screen, so there is almost definitely something hardware involved.

A side note: NVidia was (so far) only willing to give me a refund on the glasses, not replace them. They also would not refund the shipping, and I have to pay the shipping to send them back. Not satisfactory, especially considering I paid to have them sent to me overnight in the first place. I now have to decide whether to hold on to them in hopes of a fix someday, or just send them back, get what money back I can, and try to get them locally at some point in the future. Neither option appeals to me much...

Here's a possibly important clue:

My wife and I were trying both pairs of glasses at the same time. We discovered that when one pair of glasses flash, the other pair flashes at -EXACTLY- the same instant. The flashes are completely in sync between the pairs of glasses. This means that it -cannot- be a problem with the glasses; it must be with either the IR tower or (more likely) what is being sent to the IR tower. The reports that running in lower resolution reduces or eliminates the flashes (I'm having trouble unambiguously confirming this myself, but I'm working on it) strongly suggests to me that it is somehow related to the processor load. Could it be something in the USB data throughput rate?

OK folks, here's a response from Nvidia on the Flickering and Sync slider................

Hi Dave,
Thanks for that detailed data. My research shows that we are aware of the issue like yours. Its in process of investigation. Unfortunately we don't have an immediate fix. The only workaround I'd recommend is disable SLI for the time being. I don't believe there's any plan to put in a slider in the panel but we can suggest it. If its feasible, I am sure our developer will considerate it.

I hope that helps. On behalf my teams, sorry for the inconvenience. Let me know if you need anything else.

Best regards,
David

So there you have it. Nvidia is aware and listening to our complaints. They may even add that sync slider to help out with our ghosting issues.
Lets be patient and see what they come back with.........*crosses fingers*

The only trouble is, I'm not using SLI (I have a GTS250), so that can't be the root cause...

Sorry to hear that. For the most part, the majority of people on hear SLI is a major factor, albeit not the only factor by the likes of it. the more people who buy into this product and share this information with us and Nvidia via the support site the better!

we are playing with technology which should become mainstream in the next year! I have done a lot of R&D in the field of 3D stereoscopic - called Virtual Reality - at university. There are so many cheap solution to this problem and if nVIDIA isn't going to get this fixed soon, other competitors may win.
Our privilege will be our doom.
3D technology is ready to launch. As you can see on the 3D Vision website a lot of manufactures have 3D ready displays and their number will grow in the future due to 3D films. ;)
The 3D Vision kit itself is an active stereo setup which means that you have to synchronize the output of the monitor with your glasses as opposed to passive stereo where you need a pair of monitors or a pair of projectors and a silverscreen each producing an image for each eye. The latter technology is used in 3D cinemas and IMAX today. Separating the left and right image with polarization filters - so you just need simple polarizing glasses to watch stereo!

Good news, but even Andrew from nVIDIA who joined our thread a month ago didn't seem to have a solution.

Good work! A month ago I wrote that I have used an USB sniffer and the latencies and jaggies appear on the USB side. So the glasses are working correct but getting faulty signals from the IR emitter which is bad triggered from the USB side! The glasses do even well without the mother sync signal from the IR emitter (even if the signal is lost they can keep up the sync for a few seconds).

(!) It is definitely a problem on the USB side - not the glasses or the IR emitter itself.

(!) To all mulit-GPU users: I encountered the flickering problem even with single GPU cards. Try to figure out under which load the syncing failure begins. Look at my post on page 3 and try some of Microsoft DirectX SDK's applications and report.

@Andrew: It would be cool if the IR emitter just sends the synch signal every second instead of every 8ms. A refresh signal for the glasses should be enough!

with best regards
