Important Question
I ask you all an important question: do all Fist Person Shooting games come with the critical problem of ingame aim and lasersight never matching ?

As preface, I tell you I am using a Geforce videocard and Elsa Revelator glasses.

I tried Call of Duty and Soldier of Fortune II and in both cases, the ingame crosshair and the lasersight happen to point to two different locations on the X axis while instead they match the Y axis.

The problem is only partly resolvable by disabling the ingame crosshair because when the sniper is used and, worse, when aiming down the sight, two different aims are presented: the ingame, as usual faulty, that in truth should be right and the lasersight which aims somewhere else but it's instead true.

Overall, I think this heavily spoils the enjoyment of the game which is not compensated by the added 3D realism (which is nice, but I prefer to take my sniper and see that I am aiming right according to what my eyes see and the game shows).

If anybody has any kind of solution of advice, please help me discuss it.

Thank you very much...

Must be your settings, I play

Halo
Return to Castle Wolfenstien
Doom 3
Half Life 2
Far Cry

And don't have a problem with the sights. Far Cry can be a bit of a pain with the detail up because sometimes things appear at the wrong depth, but apart from that it's pretty spot on.

Thanks for your reply,Ben!

Can I ask you how I change settings then ? And perhaps can you let me have your settings configuration to check it directly on my system ?

I have read the whole .pdf document that nVidia distributes with the Stereo driver and they don't mention how to change settings for the game configurations.

FSAA usually causes the stereo crosshair not to appear.

Most of the users have got used to shooting between the 2 crosshairs, to the point where alot of us prefer it.

There is a way to solve this problem in all games very easily though, check here:

RAGEDemon,

Thanks for your reply. I went to that link you directed me to but I can't sure I can see an easy method to fix this problem.

I also can't understand how you all can satisfy with "shooting between the two crosshair" since snipering is a matter of extreme precision.

Oh and one more thing, I have FSAA on but the 3D Stereo lasersight appears always without problem although it's true sometimes it changes colour (!!) according to wher I move it...

That post tells you how to make your own lasersight after you dissable the game crosshair and the nVidia lasersight. It works by using a dry marker.

Try it.

We just dissable the nVidia lasersight, and use the game crosshair, aiming between it. After just a little practice, the accuracy improved significantly, and you can actually see the target, instead of it being covered by the crosshair :)

Hope that helps.

Thank you, RAGEDemon.

I had actually hoped on a software-based solution...I noticed that there are two values called LaserXAdjustment and LaserYAdjustment that some people sometimes suggest to tweak...Now I wonder if a game can't be started by shifting the lasersigh axis to make it match the ingame crosshair.

I know absolutely nothing of how to configure games and such...It was just an observation...It should - theoretically speaking - be not so difficult...
Thank you, RAGEDemon.

...but as the lasersight is true, you'd simply be making it incorrect, just like the ingame crosshairs.

Really, when I play in stereo I prefer not to have a crosshair, far more realistic, and your aim capabilty improves much faster than you can guess now...try it.

I have played all CoD, and CoD:UO without crosshair

Regards

Amen to that. Doom 3 in stereo with no crosshair+hud kicks ass.

Nut-uhh!

Thouroughly possible and lots of fun. Sure it makes the game a bit harder at first, but you get used to it, and boy, is it immersive. I find 2D objects distracting in a stereo game.

The point of stereo is to make the games as immersive as possible. To make you believe you are there for the duration of your playing time. It doesn't matter if it's a bit more tough because the whole ride is more satisfying and enjoyable.

That's what I reckon anyway. I still enjoy UT2004 online in flat mode most of the time, because I enjoy the competition aspect. But I can easily put my goggles on and continue. My frags aren't as numerous, but I have alot of fun.

I agree with bigtabs completely

Even more,

what about playing FB/PF without messages nor HUD? I do. Together with TIR3 + VAC it's the most immersive sim game I have ever played.

Nevertheless you should program efficiently your Cougar (or another HOTAS), and in an intuitive way, so you know what is the state of some adjustments of your plane, in addition you should remember a few ones (like radiator position, I think only Hurricanes have a working indicator of that). Nevertheles it's worth the little effort. Sure!

Hi Darkbluesky,
did you resolve glitches in Il2/PF?
Flying Airfields, trees at screen depth and so on?
At the moment the game is barely unplayable or at least not so much good as FS2004.

Any suggest?

TIA

Silvan
