Dead Island 3D Vision

I did some further testing, compatibility mode, run as administrator, trying the dll file from steam forum, disable display scaling, chaning various settings, default settings etc etc. Nothing worked for me, and the game just crashes with the fix. Without fix 3d works fine. I guess this game is out of my playlist for now, would be nice if someone fixes Definitive. Also weird today, no matter how much I tried the DX11 mode didn't kick in. The game is definitely full of bugs. The most annoying bug is distorted audio which happens at random, and I've tried tens of community shared fixes and workarounds.

I've no idea what it is with this game. I know that I tried it at one time with the fix on Windows 7 but I only played for roughly an hour. My last time played was 2015 according to Steam. I tried various things, but DX11 never engaged for me, Afterburner always reported DX11. I also tried the RipTide fix for the hell of it, with no success, as well as swapping the newer DLL from it to the older fix. Both games use the same engine version. But I'm ready to throw in the towel. This game isn't on my radar atm and I'm trying to get W8.1 setup to see if I like it. So far, I'm not a huge fan. Everything seems more convoluted, I can only imagine what my disdain for W10 will be. W7 is easy peasy/user friendly/intuitive. Riptide worked though:P

BTW, an easy way to tell the version date for a helix DLL is by using a bat by TsaebehT https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1003581/3d-vision/bayonetta-on-steam/post/5126297/#5126297 There's 5 DLLs if I recall correctly, plus an injection model (which I also tried for the hell of it) They can be found in the "guide" section on the blog

Dead Island Definitive is again on sale at Steam with deep discount and improved DX11 graphics. Update - My bad, sale is already over :(

Hmmm, I'm not sure if this ever actually worked in Windows 7 for me. I fired it up in W7 and noticed that nothing looked fixed. Upon further investigation, I found that I installed it with a shaderfolder inside of a shaderfolder. lol, this was one the earliest fixes made using helixmod, so I'm claiming newbie mistake on this one. Anyhow, back to Windows 8.1, the drd9.dll is loading fine, along with shader folder with pixel shaders. But if vertex shaders are included, then it crashes. Just thought I'd add this observation, in case anyone ever looks at it. Though not all of the fixes using helixmod require a dx9settings.ini, perhaps Captain007 was onto something when he said
So I finally figured out why the fix is not working. The file "DX9Settings.ini" is missing from the posted fix.
Thanks D-Man11 for looking into this. I think if anyone wants to try a fix it would probably be best to spend the time and energy on fixing the Definitive version with updated graphics. It just looks much better. Wish I knew a thing or two about shader hacking :) I have a list of very nice 3D horror games that sits in hope of a fix. Fan of horror genre :)
