It was just released for everyone today, anyone tried it in 3d?
I'd be pretty sure you'd not get it running on a 3d vision monitor (no way can you transmit 120fps over a network smoothly enough), but I wonder how/if it would work for 3d tv play, as a framepaced 720p image could probably be manageable.

I've been streaming 60fps via my Shield (based on a combination of nvidia and Valve tech, I think, because it utilises Steam Big Picture to do it), and it's pretty damn good. The latency is barely noticeable, and that's using wifi.

It would be nice if it was supported, having a cheaper/smaller device/SteamBOX hooked up to the TV to play 2D games and still be able to stream 3D games to it if needed would definitely make the missus happy instead of having my monstrous black and red Dead Space looking 3DPC right next to the speaker. :)

Are you sure it's streaming "data" and not a video signal? A friend of mine managed to run explorer.exe over it. As long as you could transmit a framepacked 720p image it should work (and there's probably enough bandwidth for that)

Like I said I haven't looked into it all all, but I'm pretty sure it's taking the video, sound, user inputs, etc. packing it all up in a data stream to be decoded at the other end ... so it would have to be able to encode, decode it and know what to do with on the other machine. I could be wrong ... I just don't see how all that is going to work with such a fickle beast as 3D Vision without actual support from either side ... it can't even make it out of most laptops. :)

I found no way to enable 3D vision/3D tv streaming between my two boxes. It looks like it is doing a basic /complex stream capture from the host to the client (I take this from the error message which states "slow screen capture" at times.

Compression only really works well when adjacent frames have significant regions that are near-identical, but you'd never get that with regular 3Dvision, because the all pixels in alternating L and R frames would almost always be different. The compression would probably be either unable to compress much, resulting in a very bandwidth-intensive stream, or would be too heavy handed and glitch up the 3D by trying to blend elements of the L and R frames together.
But I don't see why framepacked couldn't work, as long as the destination PC was 3Dvision-ready and knew what to do with it and/or the final output was a 3DTV that knew what to do with it.

I'm also curious as to what the host PC looks like while streaming. Does it show the game playing on the main monitor, and does that output appear in 3d?

I would think it would have to be 3dtv play. I love the idea as i have a 60inch 3d tv in the bedroom. I have no other way to try this myself, only extra lappy i have wont even stream 720p from the pc. I wish the ps3/4 would act as the receiver as its wifi and has enough hardware to pull it off.

Streaming from 3D vision machine I am able to activate 3D manually on the Host.
3D is not activat4ed on the 3Dtvplay device, since it appears to be using Steam Big Picture for streaming.
