Can I play with this configuration?

Yesterday I got my Nvidia 3D vision glasses (in germany) and messes around with the installation. There were several problems: old graphic driver on CD, than two cables missing (some VESA cable and a dual link DVI cable), so I did not get it to work.

Before I send it back I would like to ask whether I can use the glasses in principle: Ma system is
Windows 7 with 64 bit
NVIDIA GTX260 graphic card
Philips 8404 LCD full HD TV with 100 Hz.

From the basic requirement the monitor should be the bottleneck, because 120 Hz is not available. In several other fourms I read that people use 100 Hz monitors.

Question: is there a way to get it to work with my Philips monitor and if yes, how!?

If "no", I will send it back.

Lcd-monitors or lcd-projectors aren't really compatible with shuttersolutions. Of all lcd's there are in the world there is only like 10 that actually supports shutters. Even if your tv accepts 100Hz as input it doesn't mean that it actually is able to shift images that quickly. So no: Your tv is most probably not compatible.

It will not work with that tv and never will im afraid. People have been using 100hz with crt monitors and dlp\lcd tv's that support 120hz input. Your tv will only accept an input of 60hz. The reason it says its 100hz is because it will add 40 frames to the 60hz input to make it seem 100hz flicker free but this cannot be used with any 3d solution. Why dont you get yourself a 3d monitor for the time being it seems a waste to have gone half way, and it is definately worth it. /wave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wave:' />

As said your tv will never make shuttering, probably not even 30Hz because of the internal lag of the electronics but: you can use the nvidia 3d discover mode (red/blue) and play with those glasses. Even if you try the iz3d driver the only option available are different anaglyphic methods (red/cyan, amber/blue etc...).

The test utility says that GPU and TV are not good enough (on "system requirements" page though it says that 8800 GTS is ok).

Is it true that 3D Vision is not compatible with my TV and GPU?

Bad news there as well. Your tv is an lcd-tv and not on the compability list. If 3d-vision refuses with your 8800gts then at least iz3d or tridef drivers will work using anaglyph method (red/cyan glasses...). Not much, i know. :(

Just a small addition to this; if you choose to use Nvidia's 3D glasses (shuttersolutions), it can really slow down the older cards... effectivly it renders the image twice, as such the cards have to work twice as hard

120Hz monitor renders the image for the left eye and the image for the right eye alternatly - giving each circa 60Hz, the glasses shut off the correct eye to give the 3D impression (loads of articles / videos on the web)

But as such, if you only get 30 FPS in a game, with the Nvidia's 3D glasses (shuttersolutions) you'll only be getting around 15 FPS. The 120Hz stipulation for the monitor /screen relates to 60Hz for the glasses - any less and you'll probably get ghosting / unplayable images /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':confused:' />

So, let me get this straight: if I use 8800 GTS 640 mb card, the 3d vision will work, with older games, but may be slow (even unplayable) in new games. Is there a chance that the 3d vision just will not work? Because the test says that GPU is not supported.

And how can I be absolutely sure that my TV doesn't support 100 - 120 hz (should it be INPUT or OUTPUT?)?

It should work with a 8800, although it may not let you go into 3d Vision stereoscopic mode if you're not hooked up to a dual-DVI 120Hz monitor that supports it.

As likay pointed out, there's a compatible TV/monitor list on nvidia's 3d Vision page. At this time, the units listed on that page are the only TVs/monitors in the world that will work with 3d Vision.

Of course, there are tons of new "3d-ready" displays scheduled to come out this year, no clear word yet on which will or won't be compatible with 3d Vision.

8800 GTS works fine. I have a 512 mb version and I can play Avatar in S3D maxed out.

As I understand, 8800 GTS 512 mb version is newer and has the other, faster GPU, than 640 mb version.
Anyway, I prefer play my games on 40" full HD without 3d vision and not on 22" with 3d vision. And I just don't have 2000-3000 $ to spend on new HDTV.
To bad for me >_<

Anyway, I prefer play my games on 40" full HD without 3d vision and not on 22" with 3d vision. And I just don't have 2000-3000 $ to spend on new HDTV.

Well, I just put together my situation - my monitor is an LCD-TV and it is not in the compatibility list, so it should not work and thats it!

But I think it should work, maybe with that "generic DLP HDTV mode". My Phipips 8404 is an up to date LCD TV and should in principle work
with the glasses. I use it for gaming extensively and it is fast enough to work exactly as a computer monitor does.

So I guess it should at least work in general with the shutter glasses. So I would like to get the setup of the glasses accepting the monitor and then
showing me how it looks like. Then I can decide whether its good enough or not.

It seems to be ironic that in the other thread in the forum about the Acer 120 Hz the initiator of the thread states that he plays with 100 Hz in order to avoid ghosting.

So he does not use the 120 Hz ability of his monitor. But 100Hz does my Philips 8404 deliver so I would just get the option from the setup to try it out.
