Need some help with cpu..... Looking to replace my x2 4200+
Ya i said a 4200+ lol. Its like 5 years old now and only has 512 kb onboard mem to share between both cores @ 2.2. I know i will have to replace my mobo too.
My pc is starting to bluescreen alot recently and i am starting to think it is time for an upgrade. I only want to upgrade the cpu/mobo. I will keep my bfg 250,ddr2 ram,psu,hd,diskdrives...bla,bla,bla. This will be to hold me over for a year maybe two. I will move the 250 to physics if the mobo allows and upgrade the gc later this year.
For this reason i will not spend alot and it will be in two purchases. Cpu @ $300-ish and mobo @ $100-ish (month wait). With a new gc later this year its starting to look like a fairly expensive upgrade over the coarse of the year.
Here are the choices as i see them.
1) Buy a watercooler and oc my crapty cpu to 4 ghz but my usb ports connected to the back of the mobo are shotty at best. $100
2) Buy a 6400 BE (3.2) watercooler combo to fill my idle time while i wait for more attractive offers $80 +$100
3) AMD 6 core (3.2) WAIT FOR MOBO $312
4) Intel i-somthing WAIT FOR MOBO $300- but what one?
6) Dont do anything and wait till intel releases their spanky new 4 ghz proc FREE and $500 towards a complete build next year.

So what you guys think?[/quote]
if you are willing to wait for the mobo's then id say go for either an i7 1366 socket or go for the AMD 6 core because both CPU's will keep you happy for a long time to come. but it sucks that you cant get a mobo along with the new chip =[
