3D in MMORPGs: my ratings
  2 / 2
WoW - 9/10. Few issues - clouds in sky aren't at proper depth. Using good+ quality for water (new shaders) break it completely. Using DX11 also adds some issues with convergence (more stable with DX9). However, overall looking at it, it's very good in 3D. As for playing constantly in 3D - it just takes getting used to, and after that period, 3D can actually help (as haven't really raided in some times, good example is in thrones of four winds, avoiding squall line, when flying, etc..). GW2 - 8/10. Works quite good, but problem is you need to have specific convergence set, otherwise many things break - like shadows and items on map. You can adjust depth as you please though.

Yeah Just got GW2 It's OK. The convergence is a little low for me. Convergence might be about 10% where I would like 20% but it is passable. Just. The icons on the main map are also a little borked because they are in depth, behind the map. Adding convergence breaks the selection rings and the shadows. The mini map is completely fine though! :) @GW2 gamers So the question: I am an unsociable scumbag so I have decided to go for Ranger as I hear they are fun to solo. With that in mind, what would be the most interesting race and background for my (likely) single playthrough? Thanks!

@GW2 gamers

So the question:

I am an unsociable scumbag so I have decided to go for Ranger as I hear they are fun to solo. With that in mind, what would be the most interesting race and background for my (likely) single playthrough?

Thanks!

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned DC online, other than shadows it works great, just turn shadows off. BTW I tested vanguard myself and indeed it's really bad.

Warriors are the most powerful for soloing though. Doing insane burst damage unless they nerfed it

I cannot believe how good Guild Wars 2 is! When I first got it I was unhappy. But then I lowered the shadows to low and found you can adjust convengence to your liking without noticing the clipping into the ground! There are still shadows so it doesn't seem unnatural either indeed you could argue they are WAY more accurate than the crisp non-diffuse ultra shadows! If you were to view screenies you would notice the selection rings are a little off but you simply don't notice it in gameplay. And most of the time you don't have something selected in PVE anyway. The gameplay is good. I have enjoyed MMOs since Ultima Online and this is easily the most enjoyable one I have played - from a gameplay perspective. I am soloing and I am having a blast. The 3D is excellent. EXCELLENT. The first GW was pants; GW2 is epic in every way. It is huge! And no grind! No monthlies. edit I have set a Macro so my map button also toggles 2D and have a separate 3D toggle for the cut scenes.

Tried Wildstar beta. Game looks very cool in 3D, like your inside sci-fi comics "Wake". Minor issues with light effects and shadows. If they are fixed, its better then WoW in 3D

Surprised no one's mention Neverwinter. Looks pretty much perfect in Stereo 3D. Pretty fun for free 2 play too.

I think 3D in The Hidden World might have been borked by a patch. There is a persistent mist which is 2D. Thee bloom effects for the sun/moon are also 2D. It is subtle but too much for me. Anyone know of a workaround? DX9 is well and truly borked.
