3D Vision + Seiki 4K not working?
  1 / 4
So as some of you may know the Seiki 4K TV's (39 inch model in my case) can do 1080p @ TRUE 120Hz (UFO Test verified!). So I thought it would be perfect to use as a 3D display. So I picked up a GT 720 since it's the cheapest 3D Vision/4K compatible GPU and a used 3D Vision 2 setup (only paid $65!). Problem is this: 1. When I enable 3D Vision and go through setup it INSISTS on running in 4K despite desktop res being set at 1080p @ 120Hz. Can't seem to do anything to change this. 2. My only selections for output are "CRT" and "Discover"...problem is that even if I select "CRT" I get a "out of memory" error...I am running a GT 720 1GB so that may be the problem...which if it is then WTF? 1GB not enough for 4K without crazy 3D graphics or something? So yeah...have just spent $110 for the GPU and wireless 3D Vision 2 glasses for nothing? Why does the setup insist on running 4K when that's clearly not what I have selected otherwise? Any help is GREATLY appreciated...I've been waiting VERY impatiently for a week now for all this and will be sorely disappointed if I can't use this stuff. Thanks!

I don't mean to disappoint you, but you probably should have researched this first, or asked here for advice. -The only displays that can do 120hz 3D via 3D Vision are either nVidia certified monitors connected via dual-link DVI or displayport cables to a nVidia graphics card, or DLP projectors via VGA/HDMI, but only at the 3D TV Play resolutions listed below. -For a TV that's (presumably) connected via HDMI, you're limited to 3D TV Play. A license for this must be purchased, and it is limited to 1080p/24hz, or 720p/60hz. This is due to the limitations of the HDMI port on most cards/TVs, but is also restricted at a driver level. If you already have a 3D Vision kit and connect the emitter, you don't need to purchase the license. -If you are using a TV, it must be a 3D TV used with the TV manufacturer's glasses (or compatible). A non-3D TV will not work. If this is your model (below), it doesn't appear to support 3D. You cannot use a 3D Vision kit to add 3D support to a display that doesn't already include it. http://www.seiki.com/products/tv/SE39UY04-detail.php -The GT 720 is a very, very weak card. Even if your display supported 3D, you would not be able to play games in 3D on this card. You will struggle to play most games in 2D with this card. 4K is going to be impossible. I would suggest returning the card and 3D Vision kit if you can, or selling it on eBay if you can't. Use the money to get a better card, and stick with 2D for now.

So despite the TV being 3D compatible (maybe not "officially" but @ 1080p and 120Hz none the less) I'm just shit outta luck? I mean, just for clarification, why is Nvidia being so damned strict about this stuff? HDMI clearly works @ 1080p and 120Hz, 3D Vision clearly works just through USB...so what's the problem? What makes HDMI and DVI any different in capability? I'm not trying to start anything but Nvidia doing this stuff is so annoying. Seems like everything they do is so damn proprietary and specific and artificially limiting (G-Sync being another perfect example). And I know the GT 720 is a slow card...I've got dual R9 290's in my main rig. I just got this for my HTPC strictly for movies...actually got all this just for 3D movies. No gaming was intended. SIGH! I swear...

Is there some fix around for this perhaps? I'm seeing a lot about EDID editing and stuff like that. I did try with a "passive" EDID but it didn't seem to do anything. Actually, my 3D glasses don't seem to be connecting to the receiver. Like, if I turn them on I see the little green light turn on the glasses but it turns off some seconds later. Is this something to do with the receiver or are the glasses bonk? They should connect regardless, right? I mean, 3D Vision, while it doesn't work, IS turned on in the control panel. Thoughts? It might be a stretch but I do feel that I'm on to something here...

Does your OS recognize 120Hz in properties when ur tv on ?? I really doubt it P.S. As it was said above ur tv can do 3D tv play 1080p@24hz via hdmi only. BTW what model of TV is that ?

It's a 4K 39in Seiki SE39UY04. So...the only thing I have left to do is find a work around. It does work perfectly with the DLP out in the living room though! However, I only have trial of 3DTV Play or whatever...which I thought was free if you own the Vision 2 kit? Would that seriously be something I'd have to pay for? Anyways, off topic, back to playing around with this thing. Any advice is appreciated!

[quote="D-Man11"]You can easily tell it's running at 120Hz by the way windows react when dragging them around. Unfortunately, 1920x1080 doesn't look very crisp/good on this TV. It quads the pixels or something like that (every 4 square cluster of pixels acts as 1 1080p pixel). Makes 1080p look MUCH better. The 720p thing is a bit of an issue though, 1080p would be MUCH better but I don't know if anyone has gotten that working or would know how considering 720p in the native resolution of the EDID. There were a couple instances of it saying 1280x720 that I switched to 1920x1080 but that didn't seem to do anything. Otherwise here is a modded 50 inch firmware...I think it fixes the pixel thing: http://box.houkouonchi.jp/seiki_firm/install.img Let me know how that works for you...definitely working beautifully for me!

[quote="D-Man11"]GL, I'm not interested in messing with this currently. All I did was add 1080p and 120Hz custom using CVT Reduced Blank. Problem is that while the glasses turn on and I do get some 3D effect (again, still using straight HDMI so I don't know if DVI adapter will make it better). Problem with this is that Nvidia is giving me a "Warning: attempt to run Stereoscopic 3D in a non-stereo display mode, etc" message. So yeah...1080p @ 120Hz seems to be functioning a bit but that's all I can say so far. That and Nvidias 3D Player goes to 1080p @ 60Hz when I full screen a movie using it. Any other known free 3D players out there?
