3D Vision 3 wHEN?
  1 / 2
Seriously. Since you guys stop supporting vision 2. Maybe someone considering making something new? That actually works better? Or maybe some near future development of 3D on stationary computers in some companies that I don't know? Maybe just 3D monitors that don't need glasses? (we already have such TVs) Better be prepared.

1. Nvidia never ready this forum, only moderators do. 2. I think Nvidia want to make some kind of sh1t like Shield or other mobile crap. Sure we will not see something like 3D Vision. Sorry, bit it seems to be true.

I think we'll see all the immediate future stereo effort put into VR device support going forward.

VR is never going to be mainstream tech... WHO wants to sucked in an 3D universe - I dont - I want imersion but with freedom to answer my Family if they speak to me.. I vote for the glasses free monitor - that would be great !

Maybe nvidia are waiting for VR to come out so they can show horn the next iteration of 3D Vision/3DTV Play around it? Didn't they say VR and 3D Vision would be compatible with each other at some point?

I know Oculus never thought it was going to work (they had their Oculus Connect right after it was announced). Nvidia recently rebranded their entire VR initiative. And that whole 3D Vision to VR has been wiped from existence. You'd never even known they'd made that promise. It's been dropped like the hot potato it was.

I think they may have scrubbed their website a bit, but it was called Auto Stereo. You can see it in one of the sceenshots that was posted above. They even had a webpage that outlined it in detail. Not only was it going to convert 3D Vision stereo to VR stereo, but they were going to have user settings for head tracking. You would be able to map how you wanted head movement mapped (ie Mouse, etc). It was incredibly ambitious sounding. And a heck of a hype seller for the just released 970/980 line. In hindsight, given Nvidia's driver struggles of late, it was laughablely ambitious. The only thing we were speculating on was whether or not the Helix mod fixes would be supported or not:(

I thought I was going crazy there for a minute. I remember reading all this. It sounds like Nvidia is just trying to make some propriety VR game works tech that no one else can use and everybody has to pay through the nose for. It won't work right and because it's propriety not all game developers will implement it as it can't be used with AMD hardware, then Nvidia will drop it in a year when 8k comes out and hope the community fixes it. I'd like to know WTF the 3D Vision department do all day at Nvidia? I mean, seriously? They aren't fixing games, they aren't evolving the tech. They aren't fixing activation servers! So 3D Vision and VR aren't going to be tied together? Do we have any official word on this? Or are Nvidia just going to leave us pissing in the wind as per usual? "Just take the page down, it'll sort it's self out, they'll soon forget!" I can imagine the meeting!

Yeah. I've been on a bit of a mission to prove I wasn't imagining things. They've definitely scrubbed things. They forgot their UK site (better get to it, Nvidia): http://www.geforce.co.uk/whats-new/articles/maxwell-architecture-gpus-the-only-choice-for-virtual-reality-gaming Before VR there were a number of 3D technologies, such as our own 3D Vision. Fundamentally, the rendering technologies of 3D Vision and VR are extremely similar: 2 slightly different images displayed in such a way to create a 3D dimensional effect. Realizing this, we have developed Auto Stereo, which will convert 3D Vision-compatible games into VR experiences, with mouse and keyboard commands mapped to VR inputs like head movement, similar to Gamepad Mapper on NVIDIA SHIELD devices, which maps touch and motion inputs to physical controls. Auto Stereo will be delivered automatically through GeForce Experience.

Nice find Paul. So there is hope? If it's on their website it must be happening, it would be false advertising otherwise. Especially in the UK, we do things properly here! :D It probably looked like a good idea on paper, until they tried it and realised NO GAMES work in 3D anymore and everyone was being sick/having epileptic fits etc when using the headsets. Instead of thinking, 3D didn't take off because we locked it down like China's Internet, let's make Nvidia VR an open standard so it has a chance. They decide to do the exact same thing as they did with 3D, stifle and suffocate it. I still don't get how the community can fix games but Nvidia won't/can't? I can't get my head around it! can someone explain why to me please, I think I must be missing something obvious as it seems illogical to me.
