Awsome new 3D HMD by Sensics coming, blows HMZ-T1 in every possible way Much better FOV, resolution,
Sensics Corporation, www.sensics.com, a company specializing in quality virtual reality and head mounted displays, and well known for thier high standards, have just revealed the new HMD called Natalia. Natalia is a gamer's wish come true, well, in the HMD department. It blows and surpasses Sony's HMZ-T1 in every specification. Best of all, it's going to be demoed at CES 2012. The following are just a few major specifications compared to HMZ-T1:

Resolution: 1280 X 1024 which also supports 720p(compared to Sony's 1280 X 720)
Field of View or FOV: 64 degrees (compared to Sony's 45 degrees)
360 degree head tracking, plus hand tracking AR experience (like Minority Report)
Dual OLED 3D screens and it can connect to consoles, PC's or phones, or even standalone playback
1.2Ghz dual core CPU, 3D coprocessor, graphics card, 1GB RAM, SD card slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, runs Android 4.0
Integrated headphones and microphones
Able to run on DC or hot-swappable batteries to avoid cable issues
It will be released late 2012, hands-on on CES 2012, so stay tuned

http://www.gizmowatch.com/sensics-natalia-headset-display-rival-sony-hmz-t1.html
http://www.smart-goggles.com/

Well, my jaws dropped as soon as I learned the specifications. It has everything that HMZ-T1 lacks. I still love my HMZ-T1, but it's nowhere close to Sensics Natalia. I'm curious to know if it uses HDMI 1.4 so we can have nVidia 3D Vision supportthrough 3DTVPlay, or some other methods of brining 3D to this. Hope someone can shed a light on it on CES 2012 next week

All those extra bells and whistles don't leave me feeling hopeful in terms of potential pricing. I could do without the additional components that allow it to act as a standalone device.

Ive seen people complaining about weight of 3d vision glasses lol.... Look at that monstrocity.

Dont get your hopes up... Will be 10k+ Previous (inferior) hmds created by them were 20k+.... http://www.sensics.com/products/page158/zSight/

If you are interested in this hmd and more visit mtbs3d.com. I love the idea of hmd, many people love and strive for the idea of the perfect hmd. Problem is everyones idea of what one should be is so farfetched that it wouldn't be affordable/profitable for a manufactor/demand high enough for production. Problem is the average person see's them as a toy.

Check out some of the DIY(engineer's) creations of hmd's. Good chance if someone actually starts planning to resell some of them they will be what many people are looking for.

I think the problem is they never built them right. They're either low FoV, or low resolution. You've got to get those right! "Built it and they will come"... Don't built it [right] and guess what......

EDIT: Every way except looks /dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. Not a fan of rounded shapes.

I happen to have access to a sensics pisight, which I believe is their highest end HMD... I'll be totally honest, I haven't been super impressed with it. I've always wanted to get some 3D vision software running on it, though its a really strange config (either 4 x 1080p portrait mode inputs (independent FOVs) or 24 (!!) independent FOV inputs).. and you need >180deg FOV if you combine the FOV of the two eyes... In all likelyhood I'd have to get something like quad buffer stereo quake running on a rack of computers.

Granted if each eye is a single OLED it probably won't experience the same problems we see (where each eye is i 12 oleds I believe), but I'd wait for reviews.

Can't say, but it's well into the six figures.

Yikes, can't knock you for buying something you like especially when you are wealthy enough to afford it. Only problem I have with those high-end hmd's is that they are quickly outdated and then non-upgradeable(that and the mark-up is INSANE). Just sucks that you do not enjoy it. I bet you get more use out of the three figure hmz-t1. Have you ever considered a CAVE 3d style set-up? http://geeks.thedailywh.at/2011/10/18/battlefield-3-simulator-of-the-day/ Calibrations aside I agree with one of these set-ups more simply because projectors can always be upgraded and many are 3d vision compatible out of the box.

Oh haha *I* didn't buy anything. I just happen to work at a visualization and simulation research lab that has an arsenal of amazing equipment. The Sensics is just one tool in the toolbox. I was probably unduly harsh on it as I had some annoying experiences initially with it. Further for the price, I had hoped it would come a lot closer to the dream of good high FOV motion tracked HMDs. It's biggest problem is it is a bit of an enigma to configure (as is all niche hardware) and the alignment of the displays doesn't survive any reasonable amount of head movement. If you get it configured properly and just sat still its probably pretty awesome. I have plans to revisit it this year, but we don't have any projects directly using it at the moment.

We have plenty of great gear otherwise. A few sims based on OK projectors and high end consumer TVs and an amazing custom wrap around screen (180 degrees x ~45 degrees) from Christie Digital.

Sensics is aiming this product directly at consumer market, more specifically the gaming and entertainment. Read thier press release which is clearly aimed at gaming and entertainment customers. They already know what the budget of an average enthusiast gamer can be (not in tens of thousands obviously). That's one reason they are showing it off at CES 2012 to compete directly with other consumer low budget HMD's like HMZ-T1. Their six figure 10k+ HMD's are for professional and military applications, not consumer application. Those HMD's are panoramic multi-display 180 degree+ FOV and not designed for gamers. None of those professional HMD's have been shown at CES before coz they are not consumer products. But this time they are exploring gaming market. I would expect this HMD to cost around $1000. It has two OLED screens.

As far as the bells and whistles go, HMZ-T1 also has a processor unit that has it's own RAM, processor etc and functions pretty much the same way, but lacks in features. Sensics Natalia simply expands on those features like adding Mic, WiFi and Bluetooth. Surely it would cost slightly more, but it can be justified considering it has all the features that were missing in HMZ-T1. I bet those multi-projector setups would cost much higher than Sensics Natalia and take so much room in your house. (I expect Natalia to cost no more than twice the price of HMZ-T1 thinking of all the featues it has, and it's consumer product).

Thinking of the shape, size and weight, HMZ-T1's design is flawed coz the weight is not distributed evenly. It's front-heavy; that's one reason so many people including myself were forced to mod thier HMZ-T1, even with helmets. I'm sure those home-made mods look much less attractive and unpolished than Natalia. HMD's have always been a game of balance between functionality, weight, size and looks. With more functionality comes more wieght or size. If you're a guy interested in HMD's and virtual reality gaming, then you would almost certainly expect some weight on your head (considering it's distributed evenly to comfort). It mainly depends on your needs and taste. If you definitely need head tracking, then you should be ready for some extra weight. Nothing comes without a price, and it's a compromise. HOWEVER, if you expect to have a fully immersive experience with the weight of just a pair of sunglasses, then HMD's are definitely not for you lol.

And who cares about the shape and look, as long as it functions properly. I lean more towards functionality than look and style. Sure the HMZ-T1 looks beautiful, but that's useless if you can't leave it on for more than 20 mins without pain. I don't wear an HMD like sun glasses to look cool, but rather to have a comfortable immersive gaming experince. I won't be wearing it in a fashion show or a night club lol, coz I know I would be wearing it only when I'm alone in my room and ready to immerse myself in the gaming world, so style doesn't matter; functionality matters to me. That's the reason I've always preferred the helmet/dome design, coz it's the one that evenly distributes weight across your head, and it's the most comfortable experience. But again everyone's taste and needs are different.

I will follow this product on CES 2012. I hope more info including price and release date will be revealed. And I hope nVidia will support it when it's launched. NVIDIA PLEASEEEEEEE SUPORT IT :)

AFAIK there is no announced product yet. Outside the dev platform.
Sensics is making a technology play and trying to get licensees to create actual consumer products based on the tech. There are currently no announced licensees.
I agree it has the potential to be interesting, but it seems a bit early to get excited about it.

We shall see when price is announced but I still don't think you should get your hopes up. Before this product was announced they only sold in the 100's of units between all the hmd's they created over the past 10 years. Dont expect a comparable price to hmz-t1. Sony is a company capable of mass production.
When it actually has a price and is listed in production then we shall see.
@libertine
I like how you say high fov high resolution people will buy it...which it has then you say you won't buy it.

You misunderstood me. I'd buy it, depending on the reviews, despite the nerf ball design.
