Samsung 2233rz and PS3.
  1 / 2
Hey there,

I was just wondering, is there anyway possible I could use my Samsung 2233rz monitor with my PS3?
My tv is horrible and I would much rather be able to switch between my PC and PS3 for this monitor.
I know I can get a dvi -> hdmi cable however I do not want to keep unplugging the cable from the monitor, I looked into a dvi switcher but I wondered if it would affect the 3D Vision, especially as you have to use the special DVI cable supplied with the 2233rz for 3d vision.

anybody got any ideas?
:)

I looked into that myself, but couldn't find a d-dvi switcher. I ended up upgrading ot an Acer so I can do both now.

Thanks for the quick reply /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' />
I wish I could shell out for the Acer or the Alienware one, but I can't :P

Would this be okay?

awesomee! :D
next step is sound, i dont know what im going to do about sound haha,
at the moment i have a typical 2.1 sound which is going through that green cable to my MoBo xD
any ideas about hooking up that to the ps3? :P

EDIT: Thinking that buying these may be the way to go:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logic3-Soundstatio..._pr_product_top

wonder if they'd work as pc speakers as well :P

"Can be used with iPod, MP3 players and all devices with a 3.5mm Stereo Jack" <- nice :D

If anyone else has some speaker recommendations for the setup i'll be using, i'd be greatful if they did :) however i'm not looking for a 5.1 system :)
I'm guessing speakers with optical would be the best, but all optical ones look to be 5.1 .... hmm /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

My PS3 came with the standard AV cable and you cna plug that in aswell as the HDMI lead, so if you got that too you could plug that in and set the PS3 to output audio via that and hook the stereo RCA leads up to your sound system with a cheap adaptor you could probably get at Maplins

Or those speakers probably have an RCA input on the back of them, failing that one of these would do it

If you are talking about using just the sammy screen (not for 3d+ps3) right now then yes you can. I have hooked up my 2233 to my ps3 and played several games and they look fantastic. Blu-ray moves look good. I have a sony pvr/dvd with hdmi and i use the same hdmi to dvi cable from my 42inch plasma to watch tv/dvds for the samsung 2233. PS3 games are super smooth compaired to my old 42 inch standard def plasma. 720p works good but the screens warnings come up for 1080p not the best resolution. Still plays it though. I ran sound through the optical line for my reg tv but for the sammy (no speakers) i plug in the old rca cables/stock cables sold with the ps3 plus a rca to headphones connector (2$) and plug that into a 12$ walmart cd player with builtin speakers (had it lying around the house).

just wondering if my speaker controls would still work with all that working like that, haha :P

Nah the RCA cables from the PS3 are male RCA connectors, you'd need a female RCA to male 3.5mm for the sony soundstation (or any speakers with a 3.5mm input on them, the soundstation may just have inputs for the RCA though), if your speakers just have a male 3.5mm jack to plug into soundcards and suchlike you'd need a female RCA to female 3.5mm.

If the speakers have the 3.5mm jack on the back, the splitter cable + female RCA-make 3.5mm(for PS3) and a male 3.5mm-3.5mm (for PC) would allow you to have both connected to the speakers at once.

Beware! You will need a dual link capable switch in order to keep the 3dvision up with your monitor (this is what you refer to as the "special DVI cable: it's a simple dual link aka 24+1 version). Dual link switchers are way more expensive usually so I doubt this one supports it..... Aten does one for instance and I think it runs for 80,- or so...

EXACTLY .... not only that, but make sure the switch is actually capable of passing signals at the 100-120Hz, as long as the switch is capable of passing the v1.4 standard, it should be all inclusive amd work fine.

More than likely this won't be an issue, just check to be sure.

I have used a variety of switches over the years and there are without a doubt quality switches and junk switches with poorly designed circuit boards, sub-par components and switches (the actual button) that can be easily broken. All of these things can really be an issue by introducing interference into the picture, or with the likes of HDMI, no picture at all as syncing needs to happen. By far the most common issue as far as build quality goes is poor soldering/design of the cable inputs/jacks. Repeated plugging and unplugging can break solder joints and cause no signal issues, or severe degridation of signal quality.

on the description of the switcher it says

"Input = 2 x DVI-I Female connectors each with 2 x RCA Audio and 1 x RCA Digital connectors

So i'd need a hdmi to dvi-d female? confused ha :P
