ACER XB270HU 144hz IPS display with G-sync and ULMB but NO 3D VISON SUPPORT?

Apparently this amazing new IPS monitor will support G-sync and ULMB but not 3D Vision.
ULMB mode works at [s]120hz[/s] 100hz, which is essentially strobing at [s]120hz[/s] 100hz, which is a Blur reduction technology originally borrowed from 3D Vision Light Boost. (people were enabling 3D lightboost for 2D games in order to get the blur reduction benefits of back-light strobing.)
How is it that this monitor doesn't support 3D vision? yet supports ULMB? Even if it's not on the official 3D vision compatibility list, shouldn't it work regardless? I thought any 120hz monitor can be configured for 3D vision?

TFT central has an in depth article on the ACER XB270HU. It mentions that they tried 3D vision but it wasn't recognized. But they didn't try an EDID override to see if it worked.

Unfortunately, Nvidia has not updated the compatibility list for quite awhile.
Display manufacturers should be pissed since they pay for certification.
ASUS has at least 3 new ones that are not listed. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-displays.html

It's actually a physical limitation. If you read the article it states the ULMB (Light Boost) strobes at 100hz tops on this monitor. It's because the pixel GtG is 4ms and that's not low enough for it to work at 120hz (same problem would affect 3D Vision, the pixels wouldn't be finished transitioning before it flipped to the image for the opposite eye). 3D Vision would have to work at 100hz as well then, and I'm not sure what driver / 3d vision tech limitations there are concerning that, but 50 hz per eye wouldn't exactly be all that great.

It's certainly not driver/3D tech limitations, because my monitor gives me 100/110/120hz options.

3D Vision already supports 50 Hz per eye AFAIK. You can choose it in the configuration wizard. Most games aren't going to run at 60 fps in 3D at 2560x1440 anyway.

3D Vision already supports 50 Hz per eye AFAIK. You can choose it in the configuration wizard. Most games aren't going to run at 60 fps in 3D at 2560x1440 anyway.

Yes 100hz should work with 3D vision. It was many years ago, but I recall doing this with a Mitsubishi 100hz CRT monitor with decent results. Although that worked over DVI. Maybe this is a display port issue?

I guess we'd need somebody with the montior to try other EDIDS. I'm not sure we have any compatible monitors with an edid we can use that share a similar specs to this (100hz max for ULMB on display port only).

I am quietly and patiently waiting in the wings... I wear shutterglasses for 8+ hours a day drawing 3d polygons over stereo imagery. I use quadro cards (Quadro 5000) with 3d vision, and would love to gain some real estate onscreen and jump to 1440p. I passed on the ROG Swift, because I had just purchased another 144hz 27" 1080p model... I'm very interested in the IPS panel.
G-Sync doesn't interest me much as I am in a CAD/GIS interface, so if it has to be G-Sync or 3d Vision, that's fine by me...

3d Vision at 144 ha would be a good thing to... I know you can't "see" the difference, but I worked on an NEC CRT monitor for a few years and about a decade ago and it could do 140hz at 1280x720. I much preferred the higher refresh over resolution as it reduced the eye stress.

I hope someone can find a way to manually override this. I just got one of these monitor's (it really is amazing) and I'd love to be able to force it to run in 3D.

As people have mentioned, you will need to have a monitor with 2ms response rate or better for 3D Vision to work, with also 120hz or better. XB270H May not be the resolution you are wanting, but it has GSYNC and it also has ULMB with 3D Vision. THe monitor works with 3d vision and it has 144hz refresh. Though, it may not be the resolution you're looking for, and it's not IPS. It's TN.
