Is there a future for 3D Vision? (the hardware version)
9 / 9
I had some weird nightmare the other day. The little nail in the hinge of the shutter glasses was slipping out and I could put it back. Hm... I really think about buying myself a pair of extra spare glasses soon.

Sorry to resurrect this, I cannot find the other posts where I was inquiring about 3D laptops.
I just cracked and ordered an Alienware desktop instead of building my own system as I've always done so far. Getting old, lazy, etc.
I have a question for you guys.
I've just noticed that Alienware also refreshed their laptop line, and in one of the screen options they mention the following:
"17.3 inch QHD (2560 x 1440) 120Hz TN Anti-Glare 400-nits NVIDIA G-SYNC enabled w/Tobii Eye-tracking"
Do yo think this is a 3D screen? I'm now "broke" from the other purchase and will not be able to buy it, but it will tear me apart to think I could finally have had a decent 3D Laptop.
As I type this, a second question comes to mind, I'll ask it here instead of the main Win 10 thread, if no one minds. Since I'll have a three year guarantee on the desktop, I'm wary of removing the Win 10 (upgraded to the professional edition) that comes with it, to replace it with a pirated Win7 (could not find a legal version in 4 years of searching).
Would you guys say that Win10 is ok now for 3D gaming, or are there still a lot of aggravations? Many migoto/helix fixes known to not work at all?
That's one of the reasons I cracked for the rig upgrade now rather than later, because I know Kaby Lake will not work with Win7 and system builders will no longer offer Skylake in a while. But if it's safe to stay with Win 10 for 3D gaming, that's good, although that will tear me apart further, when thinking that I should probably have waited for stronger Kaby Lake + 1080ti system.

Actually my nose bridge support came apart and the right handle snaps out of place all the time on my first pair. Had them since 2012

This is one i can answer. They are not 3D vision certified screens, you will not be able to play with 3D Vision on the go. Unlike previous generations, you can however output a 3D signal to a certified (or hacked) monitor via mDP (and iirc Thunderbolt/USB C), since those ports are hooked directly to the Nvidia GPU.
I don't think there are any serous Win10 3D Vision bugs left, at least i haven't run into any yet with Skyrim SE, Fallout 4 and Neverwinter Nights.

Wait, are you playing Neverwinter Nights 2 in 3D Vision? I came on here looking for an SLI fix, as I wasn't even allowing myself the hope of playing it in 3D. I've been waiting 10 years to play that game, it used to always run like utter crap, but now the GOG version works fine.
Any specific fixes applied to get it to work right?

There is no NVN2 fix. I remember working fine out of the box.
Adding SLI to that game will give you nothing. If one card can push it is fine.
What do you want? One card working 60% or 2 cards each working 30%? And for what reason? (See what I'm saying?)

Well, I don't think we have too much to worry about. 3Dvision is still sticking around and isn't dead yet. But I'm also excited to see the new technologies that will come out to enhance our screen experiences.
I think VR will remain a smaller niche, but within a few years they will get the resolution much higher and it will be a much more viable experience.
I predict that the new visual tech that will really go mainstream once it hits is Augmented Reality. I believe that AR actually has the very real potential of changing the way we work with computers, in the same way people are talking about how VR will impact computing. VR is always going to be kind of a dorky experience, and also the HMD concept has inherent limitations in how you use it.
Augmented Reality won't be nearly as scary for people, since they will be able to see their environment still, they will look more like traditional glasses which will affect their mainstream appeal. Being able to incorporate visuals into your environment open up a lot of new paths of creativity.
