Nvidia 3DTV Play is installed along with 3D Vision within the same driver, the reason that you see 3DTV Play is that you are connected via HDMI. Your HDMI input is limited to 60Hz, for 120Hz you'll need to connect via a "Dual Link DVI-D" connection. The glasses automatically shut off to conserve the battery. Otherwise, you'd forget to shut them off and they discharge to the point that you could not recharge them. The reason you are seeing both images during the setup wizard is because the emitter has not been turned on. There should be a menu you access on your monitor to enable it. Please see this article http://3dvision-blog.com/6456-problems-with-asus-vg278h-3d-monitor-and-the-integrated-ir-emitter/ You can access the Nvidia control panel by simply right clicking on your desktop and choosing it from the drop down menu. You can download the latest Nvidia driver and normally just install it right over the old one without uninstalling. When you install, do a complete install. Some of the older drivers requires the user to download the emitter driver sperately, I believe 275 was the first driver to include it as a all in one driver solution. The latest is 310.70 launched on Dec 17. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us It may be that the installation cd did not install the emitter software properly, it may have a wrong version. The emitter driver must match the gpu driver version. That's why nvidia started packaging them together, because users inadvertently, would install the incorrect one. It used to be that the didn't have to be the same version, but that was a few years back. I've no idea what GPU you have, but if it's a decent one, you'd get 1920x1080@120Hz via Dual Link DVI-D.

The reason you are seeing both images during the setup wizard is because the emitter has not been turned on. There should be a menu you access on your monitor to enable it. To clarify I'm not for certain you have to enable it via an OSD on the monitor(on screen display), it was more of a thought. You can take a picture of the emitter with any cell phone or digital camera, if it is enabled, you'll see it glowing white. Also, make sure any protective clear plastic film is removed from the emitter and glasses.

Don't use HDMI unless you have to. It doesn't work very well with Stereoscopic 3D (S3D), and in fact does not have enough bandwidth to run 1920x1080. That's why there are no 1080p projectors that do 3D. You also cannot expect a $2 cable to work correctly with S3D (depending upon length). You also cannot use VGA and expect S3D. VGA will work in some cases, when you have high quality cables, but you are asking for trouble if you use it. Do not plug in more than one cable from your video card to the monitor. It sounds like you plugged in both HDMI and VGA at the same time. This will make the video card think you have two monitors hooked up. The HDMI connection is to allow for external TV related stuff like a console, or Blu Ray player, not your computer. VGA is for compatibility with antique hardware. As D-Man11 noted, use Dual Link DVI. According to the Amazon web page, the dual link DVI cable is included in the box. Use it and your life will be a lot better. Your computer with a 2600K and 560ti is fine, and will drive the monitor with no problem. Not gonna lie, S3D is not the easiest thing to get working. It's worth it though. To repeat, for emphasis, Use DVI, and you will get it to work.

The "3D IR Mode" can only me changed when the monitor is in 3D mode, which is signified by the glowing of the 3D symbol on the emitter, it doesn't light up otherwise. Either way, it only changes the intensity of the signal, so it shouldn't be related. The monitor switches between 2D and 3D itself, you don't activate it. Basically all you have to do is connect though DVI, enter setup, plug the glasses (incase they're dead) in and turn them on, follow setup. and btw, you can get to the control panel just from right clicking the desktop.

The setup program will show some 3D pictures if you tell it to do so, or you can just go back to the control planel and run the 3D test that's there.

You should have all the software installed. Go to the Nvidia control panel, and click on the Set Up Stereoscopic 3D on the left. You should see this: Click Run Setup Wizard. That goes through a couple of steps but will turn on the emitter, and put it into a full S3D test mode. I wouldn't try anything else until you can get this to work. Let us know what happens when you try this.

In the above picture, it shows 3DTV Play. If connected properly, you should see the 3D Vision logo. The link I provided to 3D Vision Blog was to show you that there is an onscreen menu you can access to see if there is a problem with the emitter. You mentioned reading about the emitter problem, so I thought if you could see pictures and read about it in depth, you could verify if that's your problem. As far as the drivers go.......... If you read what I wrote, you would see that the drivers are all inclusive now. DO A FULL INSTALL If you read what I wrote, Nvidia in past drivers made it mandatory that the emitter driver be from the same release as the driver you are using. THIS is WHY the drivers INCLUDE everything now. Where as before, the USB emiiter driver was a seperate download.

Can you enable 1980x1080 at 120Hz in 2D? Make sure if your graphics card has, let's say one DVI output that is Dual link and one that is a Single Link, that you ARE connected to the DUAL LINK output of the GPU.

D-Man, I think that the 3D Play thing was an accident, and he shouldn't really use that. The monitor he bought is a straight-up NVidia certified 3D Vision monitor with the built in emitter. It seems to me that the HDMI messed things up, because the video card thought it was driving a TV, and thus switched to 3D Play. If he connects via DVI, I believe he should be able to just use the normal control panel and setup wizard. In any case I would definitely try that first, and avoid 3D Play unless he has to. (Sorry about that picture, it was the closest I could find to what you should see. As D-Man noted, it won't say 3D TV Play if things are connected via DVI. That's not the important part though- the important thing is to be able to step through the setup wizard.)

I modified that picture above to make it match what you should see. Sorry for the confusion I added there. You want to see the NVidia 3D Vision Ready logo/icon, and not the 3D TV Play. If it says 3D TV Play your computer thinks it is talking to a 3D Television like a Panasonic, not your Asus monitor. In that image, it says Samsung 3D 120Hz LCD, but yours should say Asus instead. If that pop down menu is enabled, you have multiple monitors connected to your computer, which would confuse things. If the Enable stereoscopic 3D checkbox is greyed out (which seems like what you are saying), then the NVidia driver did not detect a 3D qualified monitor. I would still expect it to allow you to choose 3D Vision Discover, which is the old red/blue version which works on any monitor. If you are now using the DVI cable, and no other connections to your 560ti graphic card, I would expect this to work. --------- It sounds like you did download the latest 310.70 drivers, and installed them. Do you still get NVidia control panel hangs? If you have any reason to suspect that the drivers are not working properly (like those hangs), you should do a "clean" install. Here is a picture of what you would see when you choose "Custom", that allows "Clean". --------- It sounds like you went to the ASUS OSD menu to look at "Information" and double check that you do not have a DOA monitor, as D-Man11 suggested via this link: http://3dvision-blog.com/6456-problems-with-asus-vg278h-3d-monitor-and-the-integrated-ir-emitter/ If you see the image below, your monitor is DOA. --------- When the emitter comes on, you will see a green LED next to it as well. As seen here:
