Our 3d vision community fixed games on the new GTX 980 and latest Maxwell drivers
Hi, First of all Thanks to all the community members who are striving hard to keep the 3D vision alive by fixing the games. Hats off to you all :) :) My concern is that in the coming week I am planing to get a new GTX 980 and my worry was does the new 980 and the latest drivers specially for Maxwell break the community fixes for example for games like Bioshock infinite, Outlast and the list goes on and on... :) The problem is currently I have 580 and a huge backlog of games. I am wondering that whether this fixes work properly on the new Maxwell cards and new drivers or does it break it completely? Members who already have the new Maxwell cards can shed some light on this so I can decide whether to hold off my purchase and finish my backlog on my current 580 only. The problem with keeping my current card is that I cant play the new games like tomb raider , batman arkham origins ,shadow of mordor because I struggle in the vram department. Thanks in advance :)

I have 970 SLI. The problem with saying "do it." Is your saying you have a backlog. Some games have issues with certain drivers especially older games. Like off the top of my head I know alice madness returns has some issues besides on a few drivers. Now the problem is with any new card is your locked into 1/2 drivers. You run into a problem your effed. Don't get a 980 yet. They are running at stock/near stock and the manufacture OC 970's run at LITERALLY same speed as a 980. There is absolutely no reason to buy a stock card nowadays. Manufactures stress test these cards and put on crazy warranties. Get a card thats 10/15% more power performance for same cost. Not to mention IF you decide to OC on top of that you can since these models are built with extra fans/cooling then stock. In probably a month the top of line OC model comes out. For some reason it seems that manufactures were only prepared for release for 970's. By then there might be enough drivers that it will be less of a concern. These are both the current top cards in case you don't know what I am talking about. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-2983-KR 1266MHz Base Clock [980 overclocked] http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-2978-KR 1216Mhz Base Clock [970 overclocked] Difference of $200.00

I might go for SLI in future or now only ,thats the reason i chose stock 980s. And wont the custom OC 980 cards be at least 50$ more than the stock card price?

Probably like $40.00 but when your spending $550.00 don't you want to spend an extra $40 for 15% peformance? Its your money though. If you can't wait get this one. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-2983-KR Practically same price as stock 980. Strong OC / performance.

In some cases with SLI and if not using watercooling you are best off using the stock cards due to them blowing air out the exhaust as opposed to some of the aftermarket coolers on the OC models.

So according to you I am bound to run into issues with games fixed by the community as the number of drivers are less. I think you are right and I should finish all my possible backlogs on my 580 before moving onto the 980s. And as necropants suggested I was planning to go for the blower style in which the cards dump heat outside the case. Water cooling too is very costly here..

Less fan noise and the hot air gets blown out the back. Works for me. (holding out on the 1080's next year, not enough mileage out of my 780's yet)
