if this kickstarter succeeds i kinda feel bad for helix. he could have charged 5000 per patch.

This is incredible news but ultimately I'm not really sure how I feel about this ... on one hand yes it is only $10 but on the other that's going to be $10 for each every game ... and after seeing how selfless the Helix Mod community is and how much time and effort they've put into making things work for everyone else ... I don't know ... $10 a game starts to seems extremely steep to me, unless of course Helix was asking for it. So how much of the $10 is Chiri getting?

As birthright and TsaebethT said it's feels a little over the top to pay for all of this as Helix and the other dudes makes it all for free. Helix said earlier that he was trying to make a DX11 Wrapper and then it's game over for these guys even they are doing a hell of a job..trying to make money of it tho does stinks im afraid.

Tridef = 50$ our Bioshock Patch = 10$ So it is a pretty good deal
It's not like that sorry, Tridef $50 gives your support to hundreds of games, including BI, and support of any new released games.

...
Heh! It's not $5K for one patch, that's for the entire Indiegogo campaign. $10 per person. 500 people, boom, done! Is it worth $10 or $15 more to play Infinite the way it should be? Hell yeah!
Well the page structure is similar to Kickstarter, which has the total requested for the project in the same place, so I thought it was for the patch only. Well obviously $10 is more reasonable duh, still I'm not getting it for now. I find it hard to believe that every single patch requires $5000 of your effort, after watching the 3d vision community make patches for dozens of games for free, for me it's a ripoff, and probably it's using a lot of the stuff found by Helix for free to give you money, which I find unfair. I'd think about donating if it was in exchange of you releasing the wrapper to the public, but only for the patch, I don't think so.
Ok then let me give you a quick idea of what stuff really would cost.... As of now there is about 4 man month of work in it, a developer with the skills to do something like that goes for around 1500$ a day (consulting rate) around here. So you do the math what this stuff is really worth or just get the Tridef and be happy.
...and probably it's using a lot of the stuff found by Helix for free
Nope. No finding of Helix is used at all. None of the patching scripts, no hooks, no shader code. Is's all based on HLSL DX11 shader assembly and tedious analyzation of DirectX calls. I am grateful for Helix providing patches for free and I would also provide everything for free if my financial situation would allow for it. The Indiegogo money is one month of small apartment rent for the involved people and just barely allows us to work on a wrapper at all.

Helix is from the UK? cool beans. Does that mean Eqzitara's from the UK as well? $1500 a day for a programmer? lol, that's about 8x higher than games coders get paid in the UK for writing the original games. I think charging for work done is fine, but I don't know how I feel about a 'kickstarter' campaign to write code for a game that isn't even yours, and which you don't have copyrights too. It must be illegal. But at the same time, I think that if you guys do a great job and really get everything ironed out, why not try to sell your work to Irrational Games? That way, you may make a lot more money and the patch goes out to users for free? Just a thought ;-)

Atleast these guys show that's a DX11 wrapper are doable so fear not, I think it's pretty safe that Helix will come out with his version of it sooner then later :)

I won't contribute to this, as I have no interest in replaying Bioshock Infinite, and I don't want to pay on a per-patch basis. However, I would certainly contribute if it went towards the development of a DX11 patch that could be adapted for other games. Is it a great deal more complicated than Helix's patch, in terms of how hard it is for people to adapt it to new games? I will pledge $100 if: 1) The patch becomes free to everyone once the goal is reached 2) The patch can be tweaked to fix other games at a similar difficulty level to Helix's - so people other than yourselves can use it to work on fixes 3) I see proof of concept shots of another DX11 game fixed with your patch. I would suggest AC3.

I don't begrudge anyone trying to make money off of improving the games. It's hard, it takes a lot of time. If someone is getting paid for it, you will see a lot more games fixed as well.

I'd like to know what the patch actually is, the last and only time I ever paid for 3D in a game was Enslaved: Odyssey to the West but it was $10 and was included with the Pigsy's Perfect 10 DLC. Is it something that get dropped into the folder like the Helix fixes? Is it an app that has to be run separately? Or is it something else? And what are you guys doing about copy protection? You do realize, if it ever is released out into the wild, it's only a matter of time before it's being pirated ... or worse.
Well, I know Chiri from these forums, so I went ahead and put up the first $25.
I hope I'm wrong but it looks like you just made a donation towards the cause and you're not actually getting the 'patch'. Ultimately though I think the price is a bit steep for a single patch ... maybe I'll wait for the 3D Humble Bundle. :D
