[How To] Shadow of the Tomb Raider start in 3D Vision + proper SLI
  1 / 4
Hello there, Like many of you I had the exact same problem: Starting the game with 3D Vision would go in an endless loop of Activate/Deactivate 3D Vision and flickering of the monitor. Sure, some have found that if you disable SLI it will work and it does. However, for me it wasn't an option as I want to play the game in 3D Surround (5760x1080) on my 3 monitors and they are connected to my 2 SLI GPUs. After fiddling about 30 minutes, I was able to get the game to run perfectly fine in 3D Vision on my 3DSurround + SLI setup. The problem is in the game engine/ or nvidia driver (hard to say), but it's a timing issue. My supposition is: The game send the commands to the driver to activate 3D Vision (and the driver tries to put the monitors in 3D mode, enable the emitter and sync the glasses) but the game "times-out" waiting on the nvidia driver and tries to revert back to 2D. At this point is sending the command to disable 3D Vision, but later the driver responds to the initial command that it enabled 3D Vision. At this point the game is confused and retries all the above, hence the endless loop. So, how to fix this: ALL STEPS ARE REQUIRED - Make sure Nvidia 3D Vision is enabled in NVPANEL - Make sure that your WINDOWS Resolution is set to the same one you use IN-GAME: Ex: Windows 5760x1080 @120Hz. Game: 5760x1080 @120Hz. (3D Vision "doesn't" work at 144Hz. The driver tries to revert to 120Hz, but this is another topic entirely. Hence the 120Hz max) - For convenience download 3D Fix Manager from HelixMod website. - Install and open it. - Navigate to Settings, Nvidia 3D Settings and disable "3D mode enabled on game launch" - Find a stereo image (.jps or .pns) and view it in Nvidia 3DVision Photo Viewer (You should be able to make one in another game with ALT+F1 or find one on this forum). - This will put the monitor in 3D Mode, Emitter will be synced with the Glasses. If at this point you can view the image in 3D you are ready for the next step:) - Start SOTTR and go to the options in the launcher: - Enable "Fullscreen" - Enable "Exclusive Fullscreen" - Disable "DirectX12" - Make sure STEREOSCOPIC is set to ON. (THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT!) - Monitor Refresh rate matches your Windows one @120Hz (THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT!) - VSYNC is on (THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT!) Hit OK and start the game! So, how to fix this:
ALL STEPS ARE REQUIRED

- Monitor Refresh rate matches your Windows one @120Hz (THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT!)
- VSYNC is on (THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT!)

Hit OK and start the game!

The game should now start and stay in 3D Vision Mode and you can see the 3D Vision Overlay!

Unfortunately doesn't work for me :( As You can see here I also have tested StereoDefaultOn https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1062314/3d-vision/shadow-of-the-tomb-raider/post/5872496/#5872496. On my PC with StereoDefaultOn=0 SOTTR always results in stereoscopic=off in the game settings after the initial flickering. So with Your method the game flickers one time at the start and in the main menu I get 2D and stereoscopic=off in the game settings. Only with StereoDefaultOn=1 the game in very rare cases resulted in stereoscopic=on and not permanent flickering. But even then it happened that 3DVision was on, stereoscopic was "on" and the image was just plain 2D... Even tried to freeze SOTTR.exe during the flickering to force the game to wait for 3D Vision to start with Cheatengine and speedhack = 0. But this routine of the game doesn't seem to react to speedhacks. I tried BES Battle Encoder Shirase to slow down SOTTR.exe by -95%. Then only the 3D switching on/off was slower but still continued. I have no clue what to try else...
I know it sounds strange, but have you tried to DDU the driver and reinstall and see if you get different results then what you have? I had some 3D Vision driver problems today and I had to "nuke" it to get it working :-s

@ddr0390 Have you been using Tridef 3D ? Once you use Tridef 3D that's your default 3D render. below are two reg files to set the default render back to 3D Vision create a text file paste below and change the extension reg 3D Vision on Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D] "StereoDefaultOn"=dword:00000001 3D Vision off Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D] "StereoDefaultOn"=dword:00000000 another solution re-install the driver this resets 3D Vision to default 3D render.

3D Vision on
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D]
"StereoDefaultOn"=dword:00000001

3D Vision off
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D]
"StereoDefaultOn"=dword:00000000

another solution re-install the driver this resets 3D Vision to default 3D render.

Couldn't sleep anyway ;) I did DDU the driver but the result is the same. When SOTTR starts 3D Vision turns on for a second. Then the game detects that StereoDefaultOn is 0 and 3D Vision gets disabled after the first flickering and stereoscopic automatically switches to "off". Even Nvidia 3DVision Photo Viewer has switched to 2D after the flickering. When I run SOTTR with stereoscopic "off", switch back to desktop and then start Photo Viewer I can't see the jps image but only a black area and 3D Vision can't be enabled. SOTTR is a real 3D Vision killer on my system :( Maybe because it's Win 7, non-SLI and only one monitor. Have to wait for a patch... @zig11727: Thanks for the advice. I never used Tridef, so the default render is 3D Vision. As mentioned above StereoDefaultOn 0 just causes SOTTR to disable stereoscopic and 3DVision on my system. Only with StereoDefaultOn 1 I happened to run SOTTR in 3D Vision by chance but I can't reproduce it.
