NVIDIA Moving to TSMC 16nm FinFET process

It sucks that 20nm never panned out, the 9XX series would have really rocked.

Yah, I was surprised that no one else chimed in about this good news. I had been wondering if Nvidia was going to ditch TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited) and find someone different to make their chips.

Well I really hope, assuming they skip 20nm, that they can still launch a die reduction card before Oculus CV1 launches. Was counting on a fall release for their updated cards. It'd be AWESOME if 16nm can still hit 2015, but that makes me nervous.

http://techreport.com/news/27554/dont-hold-your-breath-for-gpu-process-shrinks-report-suggests Bleh. So it sounds like demand for 20nm is too great from Apple and Qualcom, so they're going to skip out till 16nm. Who here thinks demand won't be any less for those dies either? This has been an issue for years. Article is speculating we won't see any die shrink from Nivida till 2016... and even that isn't looking like early 2016. Only makes it funnier about all the people whining about why Oculus CV1 should be 4k. Yeah, right.
