IR emitter USB cable extension possible? (or not)
Hi. My 3d vision kit works OK with the setup "out of the box".
But if instead of plugging the IR emitter directly in a USB port,
I try to extend the USB with a USB extender cable, then it fails horribly:
The 3d glasses don't react at all to the IR emitter then,
and the stereo setup rutine starts acting very weird, turning the IR emitter on and off,
and crashing the system in many ways (some as general protection faults or caught exceptions,
but also crashing the entire system including blue screen of death, rebootings and disappearing video signal).
In short, trying to extend the USB cable seems to behave "severely wrong".
I can understand that the IR emitter timing stuff is delicate.
However, the issue remains. I use the 3d vision kit in a video projector setup,
so the standard length of the cable is a problem for me - I have trouble
getting the IR emitter far enough away from the computer and in front of the stereo glasses.

Does anybody else have any advice or experience on how to extend the length of the IR emitter USB cable,
or explanations on why it probablyl won't work / why it fails?
(In particular, I wonder if there are special USB extender cables that would make it work).
The extender I'm using right now is a tad long: it's 3 meters
- I wonder if it would work with a shorter extender, or if it's extending itself, that causes the problem.

I'm not entirely sure if the extender cable is the sole cause of the problem,
but it appears so: Problem appears with extender, and disappears if I remove it.
(To explain what I'm thinking here: For example, when I use the extender, I also hang the IR pyramid
vertically in the ceiling, instead of horizontally. I have no reason to expect that having it vertical would
cause it to misbehave, but it's a separate aspect, apart from the extender itself).

Cheers, and hoping someone else has experiences with this.

As the IR emitter connects to the pc via a mini-usb cable, try buying a longer cable and use that on
one of main ports instead of using an intermediary extender. That way you will still get the direct high speed
connection necessary for the sync and the pc wont notice the difference.

You are a genius Sir! (I think)
I'm trying this/was trying this, but for other(?) undetermined reasons my setup broke today, at the same time..
I will gladly post a confirmation here, once I'm sure it works (it sounds plainly sensible to me)
- but, until I figure out why my setup broke, I can't post a confirmation yet.

For the record: What I 'tried to try/almost tried', was using a 5 meter usb 2.0 USB mini-b cable.
Thanks for the informed suggestion, though.
