Im going to pull out my hair, plz help

So I've been researching NVidia 3D. I've read all sorts of things about 3D vision 3D TV play, checker boarding and etc. It's all too much to handle.

I want to take full advantage of 3D vision, aka all the features talked about & at the highest refresh rate possible. No compromises. I'm also looking into buying plasma. Can anyone here recommend me a 3DTVthat fits this criteria? I have a GTX 285.

Ease of installation is not a problem, what are my options? And is it true that i wont find an hdtv that will do 3d at 60hz and that only projectors can do this?

Here is the link to the Nvidia 3D vision supported TV/Monitor page pick one off it and your set....if you go out and pick your own it may not be compatible with 3D vision.....

hmm i Checked that out & they are all tiny Until you hit the DLP's which are Huuuge. What about those Samsungs I hear people talking about that support checker boarding and that other thing?

Edit: so i've been doing some looking around and this mitsubishi is only 899 (aka in my price range)the model number is WD-65738. Should i get something like that or a plasma samsung that i mentioned in this post? also, please post your thoughts on going the samsung plasma rout. If it's cheaper and supports my xbox 360 and i can hack the samsung to make it run at a respectable rate, that would be a very tempting option. i dont need 60 inches, i need like 42-50

3DTV's will do 720p at 60hz and 1080p at 24hz using Nvidia's 3DTV PLAY. 1080p at 24hz is no really playable; i've tried and even when there is little input lag, such as in Halflife 2, the refresh rate is just too low, making 720p @60hz feel like an improvement. A few Samsung TV's will do checkerboard via Nvidias free 3D Vision, which many people like much better than 720p. Most DLP's have little crosstalk and i think the same goes for projectors. Crosstalk for 2011 3DTV's has greatly improved in some brand/models over 2010 models. Some haven't, like Sony's EX720 series. I highly recommend the Sharp LC835u, which has very low amounts of crosstalk for most colors.

Hey! a straight and concise answer, THANK you very much! Let me pick your brain one more time. What do you think looks better, 720p at 60hz or checkerboard? The T.V. you listed, looks great but, is sadly out of my price range. I'm looking to spend 1000 dollars. I found a mitsu dlp for a reasonable price. Do you know of any other tv's that can out do the dlp? I dont mind running my games at 720p.

p.s. Is the crosstalk worse on a dlp or the tv's you recommend?

Have you considered a projector, or are you set on TVs? The Acer H5360 is a 720p projector that is a favorite around here. It's cheap and looks fantastic. I traded my 47" 3d TV in for one when I saw my friend's, and I've never looked back.

i've considered it but have been afraid to jump in because of the stories i hear about having to have perfect dark and how projector screens are super expensive.

I've never seen checkerboard, but the biggest proponent of it on these forums says it looks identical to side-by-side mode, which i have seen and it looks pretty good, like 720p with 4x AA and perhaps a little finer. The Sharp should be under $1000, but thats used. DLP's are said by many to have zero crosstalk, with the exception of a small handful. If you have room for it, i'd say that a great way to go [based on the little i've heard; i don't know much about them].

For a plasma 3DTV you should try the Tridef approach to S3D, you will get much better result than the nvidia one with 3DTV play, for example a Samsung PS51D490A1W or PS51D550C1W are in your price range and work very well, one is 1360x768p panel and the other one 1980x1080p.

Thank you Jude and libertine. This is the first time sbs was brought to my attention. I did a little research on it and like what I see. Jude, how's the crosswalk on those plasmas? Also will I need a new graphics card with those TVs? I have a gtx285.

Lastly, do you think the 1080p plasma will have as nice of a pq when playing games at 720p as the 720p tv? If there's no difference I might as well get the 1080 for a bit of future proofing.

For the PS51D490 the gtx285 will be enough for sure, a bit lacking for the 1080p panel if you want to achieve 60fps all the time... in others words you wont, and some of the most taxing games could be unplayable.

Playing at 720p in a 1080p panel is a bad idea, if you finally get that panel then is better to reduce the eye candy of the game instead of the resolution, you must aim always to play in the native resolution of the panel, otherwise the quality loss is too big.

Even with the PS51D490 ( hdready panel ) you will be playing at 1360x768p instead of 720p ( 1280x720p ), thats where the 3DTV PLAY from nvidia problems are because they force you at 720p/60hz or 1080p/24hz, so no matter what you do a rescale will happen and obviously a big loss of quality.

Long answer short, play in the native resolution of your panel, so playing with 720p in a 1080p panel is a no-no situation.

So let me get this straight, since I will be using either tridef or 3d vision and it's impossible to output 1080p at 60 hz there is absolutely no advantage to purchasing a 1080p 3dtv?

There is an advantage with Tridef and iz3d you can play in side by side at 1080p with them so the advantage is that you play at more res. than the hd ready panel, just forget about 3dtv play ( version of 3d vision for 3dtv's ) because is lacking and only let you play at 24hz with that resolution, which is not enough for almost all games.

The only disadvantage with 1080p is that maybe you will need a new gfx/rig for play with all eye candy and S3D, just that.

Jude, you're awesome. I'm set to buy the PS51D550C1W but i think it's called something else in the states. A quick google search yielded results in Russian and Spanish. Any Idea what it's called here? Also, you're confident that this will be my best option for sub $1,000?
