SteamVR/HTC vive Developer Showcase ~ January 28
  1 / 2
Seems HTC/Valve is doing this right because they are announcing/showcasing titles that will be available prior to the FEB 29TH PREORDER date and most likely announce price. They will be showcasing 10+ titles -though not all will be available at release. Some of which are certainly going to be on Source 2 since its FREE and includes VR support. Though the big news that was "teased" today is. Pretty interesting what Valve has to announce. Though this might imply something Valve developed, "technically" it could be them announcing other developers games. Regardless they have a real shot at pulling off what I personally feel Oculus failed to do at/prior to release. Hype factor. Anywho, discuss.

HTC has a habit of putting their foot in their mouth and not understanding people will read into things regarding Valve. I'm not going to put to much into it at this point. Should be noted that it's by invite only (and free for those invited). So for the IGN contest that's being run, the prize value is valuing the Vive Pre at 1000. Nothing else of any value is being included for contest winners. Obviously it's a dev kit and technically doesn't apply to retail kits, but I'm certainly putting my money on 999.99 after that little tidbit.

I would say that it will be something small but very satisfying - like: VR support for Portal, Left 4 Dead and Counter Strike titles. My heart is with Portal 3, L4D 3 and obviously HL3 as the top of expectations.

This is the right time for Valve. HTC Vive and Source 2 for a new single player game (be it Portal 3 or HL3). Now imagine it's Ricochet 2 in VR :p.

Well thats unfortunate. I am still hopeful that they were be planning a major IP release around the release. If not its going to be DOA unless they get a LOT of major titles to announce. Its doubtful people with just buy with valve brand attached without real support. Its like nintendo releasing a console without any games developed by them. Its the only way they can justify a much higher price tag to average consumer. I know so many people are going to click to see what software is included or will be available in day one and saying nope otherwise. Though there is a possibility that a Valve IP is being developed by a third party. I still very much believe that Half life 3 is in development in some form and has been tested in VR but with Valve... that could mean thats like 5 years down the line.

Well there was that whole Christmas Steam Sale Noir thing that no one figured out as far as I know. The way it was done, seemed to indicate a game launch, but who knows.

Its just a bit sad when there isnt any indication of a major release with VR. I still can't fathom how billion dollar businesses don't realize this. I have 0 interest in minecraft but if Oculus stated it will be available on Release. I would happily purchase the system and not even buy the game. I have 0 interest in Left for Dead but if Valve stated it will be available on Release. I would happily purchase the system and not even buy the game. Hopefully Valve realizes Oculus's mistake... there is NO VR BRAND. You need people to have faith to make the purchase and for it to eventually become a BRAND. ----------------

I'm skipping Oculus and going all for Vive, room VR looks too promising and i have a room that should work well. Besides Vive should do seated VR just as good as Oculus. I just read that Job Simulator will be limited to 180º on Oculus and many other room vr games will have issues on Oculus even with several cameras, together with market segmentation by releasing it without extra cameras / Touch. I agree with eqzitara that there's no killer app for either platform yet. The only killer apps look to be on Sony side: Rez, Riggs, Ace Combat look incredibly promising imho.

Rez and Ace Combat definitely look great. It'll be interesting to see if those two ever come over to the PC side. If I wasn't so into hard core race sims, I'd be seriously tempted to just get a PS4/Morphous instead (certainly would be the cheapest route) until the PC side prices came down. Still not sold on Riggs. Reminds me of a couple games I didn't care for. But it's cool they're trying to make a VR e-sport game. So I'll give them some credit at least. I'm definitely hoping the Valve showcase features a racing sim I'm fond of (basically ANY PC sim not named PCars).

Currently the state of VR and what has shown/is known can be phrased into the following sentence: "VR is dead! Long Live VR!" ^_^ Hell, with the current content they are showing, I'd rather buy a damn console or go 2D gaming... at least I play cool games rather then "Virtual Worlds devoid of content"... I am a RPG player 90% of the time so...from the RPG-VR pow, VR doesn't exist yet:( Hope it will change though! I wonder if the new Mirror's Edge will be made for VR...hmmm

Some already have native support like elite dangerous, dirt rally or assetto corsa. One good game makes the headset worth owning in my opinion. It doesnt have to replace 3d vision right away, or at all. They go really well together and offer different experiences. Im not that interested in the official rift games either and the content seems lackluster but what im very much looking forward is testing how existing games work with higher quality headset. Games like mass effect and skyrim were almost playable on dk2, and i think they will be playable on cv1 provided you are not easily getting sick in the headset amd understand the limitations of non native vr games(camera control, headtracking locked into crosshair etc).

Except the part about not liking Minecraft ;-) Minecraft is slated for release I thought, Carmack announced it will be ready for GearVR at the very least, and since this are basically powered by Occulus, it should be available on CV1 as well. If it works well on GearVR, that will prove to me that the first person game can be made to work, and I'll probably get the CV1. BTW - welcome back, it's great to have your input again :-)
