Skyrim I know it's doubtful but?

@supcaj: Wow draw distance is much more impressive now, but I did run into a weird bug ... I can no longer grab nirnroots, mine ore deposits and use shrines. Also, any saves made with the new settings are likely to ctd if you load up the old ini settings, just an fyi. I'll play around with it some more, but I think i may hold off on the mods until I finish the main quest, don't want to bother having to revert saves when things break. Back up your saves indeed /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Uhh..guys, i did the Nvidia crosshair thing (not because of the blue flickering, just for smoother turning). I did get smoother turning (not as jumpy FPS) but.....look at the trees when the shadows are on the ground. They don't move properly with the 3D sight on. If you look up at the tree (where you can no longer see the ground or shadow), the tree moves again. If you disable the 3D crosshair, everything is normal. i am assuming this is happening to more than just the trees (which is probably why you are getting better or smoother FPS). Nvidia may want to look at this as it applies to their 3D crosshair.

Can anyone else comfirm what I am seeing?

not sure if people mention this, but you can change the FOV with the common prompt.

open it with ~ and type "fov x" with x as your desired fov.

i'm playing at FOV 90... was able to bump convergence way up without seeing my characters hands in double vision. the 3d is better than ever now.

"Remove weapons and hands in first person mode".

Edit Skyrim.ini located in My Games - skyrim

Add fNear1stPersonDistance=5.0000 under display.

Increase value to around 65, so giving fNear1stPersonDistance=65.0000

I know this is not perfect, but does serve as a quick fix for the double hand/weapon when convergence is high.

The 3D crosshair does affect performance in a lot of games, I don't notice in in Skyrim, but I'm running on SLI 580's.
In order to work NVidia has to insert a depth query into the instruction stream, at the end of a frame, when they read the value, the frame has to have finished drawing, this can cause a stall in rendering, I have no idea at what point NVidia waits on this "fence", but depending on the GPU load and exactly how NVidia do this wait it can impact GPU performance to a greater or lesser extent.
FWIW it can also potentially even out frame rate, because it limits how far ahead the command queue can be relative to the commands the GPU is executing.

People keep saying "i'd prefer holograms...", but i wonder how a hologram is going to make the Titanic appear as a large monstrosity next to you or make the bottom of a gorge appear really far down and your situation on the edge of a cliff feel dangerous.
To a person sitting still, a hologram is going to look identical to stereoscopic 3d. The difference is that you can move your head without the parallax errors you get with stereoscopic 3d.

In fact, you could conceivably create a fake hologram by combining stereoscopic 3d with headtracking. I'm shocked that no one has attempted this yet, It would certainly be possible with Kinect. There are even some rudimentary headtrackers for the DSi!

I started a thread over at nexus forums requesting a 3D sky mod if anybody should happen to accidentally bump it :)

The problem with a hologram is that you create perfect images of objects. But it's not possible to create a picture with depth, i.e. a landscape. For movies or games, holograms are just not possible.

I've often thought the same thing. I assume his has to do with the accuracy and responsiveness of the head tracking systems not being quite up to the task yet. What we really need is an eye tracking system connected to a pair of mini projectors that beam the left/right specific picture to the corresponding eye :)

I wonder if you can use that Track IR thing for games like Arma 2 and combine it with the sony headset 3d thing thats like a cinema, you could pull convergence right up to your nose and use it like VR =D You might be able to pull this off with whats on the market atm with those 2 things, but you'd have to hack that ****.

I'm sorry but both the nvidia and native crosshairs being broken in this game is a big problem for me, especially if you rely on the long game. It's the same on all bethesda titles. If you get far enough away from the target even the nvidia crosshair is off. Turn up the 3d, get out your bow and arrow (or any gun in FO), get a decent distance away and try to snipe someone with the nvidia crosshair and you'll see what I mean. The native crosshair would be great, but for the nvidia one not to work is disappointing.

That being said, the 3d is amazing and I can even deal with the sky, though I know we'll see fixes soon.

@andrew Can we expect a fix for the crosshair? It's been going on for quite some time now

Found a mod the 3D community I think will be interested in.

It changes the map so you can fly around Skyrim in 3D!

Video of mod and a link to link to it.

This page also contains a mod called Skyrim Better Performance Mod which might be worth trying to increase frame rate.
