Finally got my hands on a royole moon for $320 and here are my thoughts.
-waaay better than the avegant glyph but glyph still wins in overall design. just not presentation.
-No wireless mode when sharing screens with the pc like on sony hmz-t3w.
-No screen curve variations like the sony hmz-t3w.
-interface that allows you to save media to it to view in a wireless way on it's own. also has apps like youtube and netflix for use without connecting to pc. so on the go, you a straight. You'd only need to connect to your pc for your pc games. Sony hmz has way more color options and pic quality options than the moon though. but it really doesn't matter because you can change that kind of stuff on your pc anyway through games themselves. Problem with the apps though, is that youre supposed to use voice to search. But it doesn't work. There's also a royole lounge where i guess it's like an avatar hub with other users. But that doesn't work either.
-only 1 3d mode and that's side by side (it has red/blue too but i dont count that because it's useless). Sony hmz let's you do sbs and top/bottom (havent updated it yet to see if that gives more)
-Can resize the screen just like the sony hmz but it's much easier here because of being able to use hand gesture to do it instead of navigating the menu like the sony hmz. The screen is a bit on the big side so slightly making it smaller helps to see the corners that are cut off when using the maximum screen size. So basically making the screen the same size as the max size of the sony hmz is most comfortable. You can't seem to resize the screen while connected to the pc. You have to do it before you connect it to pc.
-Moon is very easy to put on unlike the sony hmz. Glasses are a tight fit so it's best to take them off. The optical adjustments are great. just kinda hard to do because the adjusters don't have clicks nor show on screen what setting each of them are actually on. so it can be hard to match it with your prescription. Overall, to me, it is very comfy to wear. For me, instead of the nose, I get pressure more under my eyes. but it's nothing to cry about.
-both sony hmz and moon suffer from a design flaw of the cord being hard connected to the device instead of being able to take it off when not in use. once the cord is damaged, that's a wrap.
-Quality is great. Of course we all know, it's way better than the sony hmz and the glyph. Sony hmz is 1080p on a 720p screen. Moon is 1080p on 1080p screens. I don't know what's different from royole-x compared to moon except royole-x has less media space. It is unknown what rez the royole-x has but royole-x has better hmd colors. Sound quality is awesome too. About the noise cancelling earphones... you can still here outside things just fine. Doesn't cancel out sound that much. don't know if that's a pro or con but doesn't matter to me. However we cant use dsr here because everything is.... well not there in the nvcp. The entries are empty. So I don't know if that's nvidia's fault or royole's.
-Using the vision adjustments is new and can take some time for your eyes to get use to it. You'll find that your eyeballs do tend to water up alot if you don't have your exact glasses prescription dialed in.

Projector users had this same problem. The only way they could do it, was to use CRU and remove all resolutions except 720P. But this was ok, because pixel clock limits made 720P a better choice for stereoscopic gaming anyways due to refresh limit.
DSR is just a form of anti aliasing, there are other options available that can work very well.

To be fair, neither headset uses dsr. Sony Hmz-t3w just supports 2 resolutions instead of just 1. But at least Glyph and Sony show the info in the nvcp. Moon shows nothing.

Unfortunately after prolonged use Ive come up with 2 major flaws:
1. the circular lenses blur out the corners and it does create strain when trying to view the image. You can counteract this by making the screen smaller. However, the screen will be smaller -_-. This isn't vr so circular lenses only hinder here.
2. Very uncomfortable on/under your cheekbones and pulls your bottom eyelids downward.
I can tolerate #2, but not along with #1. So take this info as you may. there will never be a perfect 3d viewer unless the circular lenses are erradicated and replaced with rectangular lenses.

hmm...that doesn sound that great. Propably gonna forger moon then for testing purposes. well one does get those great panels at a bargain if i buy a cheap moon....
do you have an 2017 version or the never ? the nosegap is supporse to be bigger nowdays

You might consider a WMR VR headset for your viewing. It's roughly the same price range on sales, and the higher resolution screens in WMR are close to being acceptable as a VR/TV/Monitor. Rift and Vive do not cut it, too low resolution, expect for Vive Pro, where they stick it to you.
I've tried the Dell version, and using Virtual Desktop with SBS support, it's not bad. Comfort is good. Also tried the Samsung version on sale, and the comfort was totally unacceptable for me.

Me personally, I'm not into the vr headsets. I'm moreover looking for the perfect 3d viewer device. I don't like when the image goes into the peripheral. Most of the vr headsets have circular lenses. The pimax just looks way too big. The bovovr headset for the cell phone is alright. In real gaming, I don't play alot of first person games so that's why just normal 3d is right for me.
I was reading up on the cinego groovis and it has sony tech in it so it is basically an upgrade from the hmz. It also seems to be fairly recent given I don't see any discount sales of it yet. the square lenses on the cinego look like it'll solve my problem with the blurred strained corners while giving the quality of both the sony and the moon with actual comfort this time.
Just wish there were locations to try these things out. lol

Yep, I understand you are not interested in the VR side, I'm suggesting considering the WMR because you can make it into a virtual TV of any size and closeness that you prefer. So for example you don't need to put up with blurred corners, because you can make the virtual TV smaller.
There are a bunch of people playing our 3D fixes on virtual TVs using BigScreen and Virtual Desktop.
Might not be worth it, it's on the order of 720p projector. Should be possible to find a place to try out WMR, but getting a SBS image going is non trivial.

I just bought today the Lenovo Explorer but I have to say it is a big disappointment.
I can't recommend this to anyone that ever used a 3DTV or 3Dmonitor. Image quality is very bad especially ingame. The WMR environment is designed to look good and it does but after the first wow... there's not much to do.
I have to be honest I didn't try any VR games but it was not really what I wanted to do , I wanted to do big screen 3D gaming in a HMD.
2 major flaws are : 1 very low resolution
2 does not work with 3Dvision enabled.
I used Tridef to output SBS and OU in Bigscreen app.

I returned it since it was not worth the value being $800. I also tried the avegant glyph. I found the goovis very comfortable compared to the glyph. The glyphs compression on my head gave me headaches. The goovis was sharp being 1080p mini oled screens. But I found the black levels to be not so good. It only supports half sbs 3d which I found to be the biggest deal breaker. I dont know why these guys cant support full sbs too.
In the end, I think virtual desktop + vr is the future. Huge screens and 100+ fov beat the fov of these headsets. But I think we need to get to 1500ppi to be there. I have odyssey + which is one of the best vr displays out there right now and its ~700ppi with a diffuser on the screen to eliminate SDE. Its still very blurry and pixelated compared to what we 3D 4k tv users are used to. I think vr or hmd headsets will be the best in the long run because there is no crosstalk or dimming as with 3d tv experience. Also the immersion factor is way better as it isolates your vision.

I can get 3d vision to work with the odyssey+ WMR headset. But I used virtual desktop and not bigscreen. You need to install WMR for steamVR. Also you need to edit the 3d vision profile for WMR reality portal. Theres some post on this forum about it. You need to use nvidia profile inspector to edit it. Without editing the profile, WMR will keep keep causing the display to restart and eventually the gpu will stop working until you restart windows.

I don't know, i have been trying to find my self a cheap moon to rip a part for 3D vision support. Yesterday after long break i started Gaming Aliens colonial marines and allthough my projectors are Almoust dead the dual projection big image is just sooo killer its hard to find anything even close to that so im really thinking hard not to buy new projectors.in the menwhile Im waiting, i might get a return unit of moon with another control box to crack open to get it working with geobox and enabling 3D vision capability. I heard the signal split to lenses is done on the box and if its not too small connections there is a chance the other display could be soldered or connected to be driven from another control box and then fullsbs opens up with geobox.
Though this still means you would need to get a moon, two control boxes and a geobox 300-500€ so its notcheap in anymeans.
Unless you would find all parts used. But i will be updating if anything happens in this matter.
I Also agree for quality visuals in VR unit we need atleast that 1500 ppi. Preferable better.

I don't know, i have been trying to find my self a cheap moon to rip a part for 3D vision support. Yesterday after long break i started Gaming Aliens colonial marines and allthough my projectors are Almoust dead the dual projection big image is just sooo killer its hard to find anything even close to that so im really thinking hard not to buy new projectors.in the menwhile Im waiting, i might get a return unit of moon with another control box to crack open to get it working with geobox and enabling 3D vision capability. I heard the signal split to lenses is done on the box and if its not too small connections there is a chance the other display could be soldered or connected to be driven from another control box and then fullsbs opens up with geobox.
Though this still means you would need to get a moon, two control boxes and a geobox 300-500€ so its notcheap in anymeans.
Unless you would find all parts used. But i will be updating if anything happens in this matter.
I Also agree for quality visuals in VR unit we need atleast that 1500 ppi. Preferable better.

-waaay better than the avegant glyph but glyph still wins in overall design. just not presentation.
-No wireless mode when sharing screens with the pc like on sony hmz-t3w.
-No screen curve variations like the sony hmz-t3w.
-interface that allows you to save media to it to view in a wireless way on it's own. also has apps like youtube and netflix for use without connecting to pc. so on the go, you a straight. You'd only need to connect to your pc for your pc games. Sony hmz has way more color options and pic quality options than the moon though. but it really doesn't matter because you can change that kind of stuff on your pc anyway through games themselves. Problem with the apps though, is that youre supposed to use voice to search. But it doesn't work. There's also a royole lounge where i guess it's like an avatar hub with other users. But that doesn't work either.
-only 1 3d mode and that's side by side (it has red/blue too but i dont count that because it's useless). Sony hmz let's you do sbs and top/bottom (havent updated it yet to see if that gives more)
-Can resize the screen just like the sony hmz but it's much easier here because of being able to use hand gesture to do it instead of navigating the menu like the sony hmz. The screen is a bit on the big side so slightly making it smaller helps to see the corners that are cut off when using the maximum screen size. So basically making the screen the same size as the max size of the sony hmz is most comfortable. You can't seem to resize the screen while connected to the pc. You have to do it before you connect it to pc.
-Moon is very easy to put on unlike the sony hmz. Glasses are a tight fit so it's best to take them off. The optical adjustments are great. just kinda hard to do because the adjusters don't have clicks nor show on screen what setting each of them are actually on. so it can be hard to match it with your prescription. Overall, to me, it is very comfy to wear. For me, instead of the nose, I get pressure more under my eyes. but it's nothing to cry about.
-both sony hmz and moon suffer from a design flaw of the cord being hard connected to the device instead of being able to take it off when not in use. once the cord is damaged, that's a wrap.
-Quality is great. Of course we all know, it's way better than the sony hmz and the glyph. Sony hmz is 1080p on a 720p screen. Moon is 1080p on 1080p screens. I don't know what's different from royole-x compared to moon except royole-x has less media space. It is unknown what rez the royole-x has but royole-x has better hmd colors. Sound quality is awesome too. About the noise cancelling earphones... you can still here outside things just fine. Doesn't cancel out sound that much. don't know if that's a pro or con but doesn't matter to me. However we cant use dsr here because everything is.... well not there in the nvcp. The entries are empty. So I don't know if that's nvidia's fault or royole's.
-Using the vision adjustments is new and can take some time for your eyes to get use to it. You'll find that your eyeballs do tend to water up alot if you don't have your exact glasses prescription dialed in.

Projector users had this same problem. The only way they could do it, was to use CRU and remove all resolutions except 720P. But this was ok, because pixel clock limits made 720P a better choice for stereoscopic gaming anyways due to refresh limit.
DSR is just a form of anti aliasing, there are other options available that can work very well.

To be fair, neither headset uses dsr. Sony Hmz-t3w just supports 2 resolutions instead of just 1. But at least Glyph and Sony show the info in the nvcp. Moon shows nothing.

1. the circular lenses blur out the corners and it does create strain when trying to view the image. You can counteract this by making the screen smaller. However, the screen will be smaller -_-. This isn't vr so circular lenses only hinder here.
2. Very uncomfortable on/under your cheekbones and pulls your bottom eyelids downward.
I can tolerate #2, but not along with #1. So take this info as you may. there will never be a perfect 3d viewer unless the circular lenses are erradicated and replaced with rectangular lenses.

You might consider a WMR VR headset for your viewing. It's roughly the same price range on sales, and the higher resolution screens in WMR are close to being acceptable as a VR/TV/Monitor. Rift and Vive do not cut it, too low resolution, expect for Vive Pro, where they stick it to you.
I've tried the Dell version, and using Virtual Desktop with SBS support, it's not bad. Comfort is good. Also tried the Samsung version on sale, and the comfort was totally unacceptable for me.

I was reading up on the cinego groovis and it has sony tech in it so it is basically an upgrade from the hmz. It also seems to be fairly recent given I don't see any discount sales of it yet. the square lenses on the cinego look like it'll solve my problem with the blurred strained corners while giving the quality of both the sony and the moon with actual comfort this time.
Just wish there were locations to try these things out. lol

There are a bunch of people playing our 3D fixes on virtual TVs using BigScreen and Virtual Desktop.
Might not be worth it, it's on the order of 720p projector. Should be possible to find a place to try out WMR, but getting a SBS image going is non trivial.

I can't recommend this to anyone that ever used a 3DTV or 3Dmonitor. Image quality is very bad especially ingame. The WMR environment is designed to look good and it does but after the first wow... there's not much to do.
I have to be honest I didn't try any VR games but it was not really what I wanted to do , I wanted to do big screen 3D gaming in a HMD.
2 major flaws are : 1 very low resolution
2 does not work with 3Dvision enabled.
I used Tridef to output SBS and OU in Bigscreen app.

I returned it since it was not worth the value being $800. I also tried the avegant glyph. I found the goovis very comfortable compared to the glyph. The glyphs compression on my head gave me headaches. The goovis was sharp being 1080p mini oled screens. But I found the black levels to be not so good. It only supports half sbs 3d which I found to be the biggest deal breaker. I dont know why these guys cant support full sbs too.
In the end, I think virtual desktop + vr is the future. Huge screens and 100+ fov beat the fov of these headsets. But I think we need to get to 1500ppi to be there. I have odyssey + which is one of the best vr displays out there right now and its ~700ppi with a diffuser on the screen to eliminate SDE. Its still very blurry and pixelated compared to what we 3D 4k tv users are used to. I think vr or hmd headsets will be the best in the long run because there is no crosstalk or dimming as with 3d tv experience. Also the immersion factor is way better as it isolates your vision.
I can get 3d vision to work with the odyssey+ WMR headset. But I used virtual desktop and not bigscreen. You need to install WMR for steamVR. Also you need to edit the 3d vision profile for WMR reality portal. Theres some post on this forum about it. You need to use nvidia profile inspector to edit it. Without editing the profile, WMR will keep keep causing the display to restart and eventually the gpu will stop working until you restart windows.
