I just checked the features on [url="http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-PCI-Express-Graphics-015-P3-1480-AR/dp/B003EEMFTS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1270102432&sr=8-2-catcorr"]Amazon Website[/url] and it looks like it is HDMI 1.3a.

I was hoping that it would be HDMI 1.4 but it is not.

But they will be able to output video according to the stereoscopic 3D formats defined in the HDMI 1.4/1.4a specifications with the help of the 3DTV Play software, as will cards from the previous generations, so there is no problem that the card is not equipped with "true" 1.4 hardware ;)

I guess because Fermi has been in development long before even the HDMI 1.4 specs were finalized, and there was already delay because of the manufacturing process, now who would've wanted to wait a few more months just to have HDMI 1.4 hardware inside that will not bring any significant advantages over 1.3 for the PC user. And as we already know the HDMI 1.4 stereo 3D output formats can be achieved without issues with just the right software over 1.3 hardware, so there is no real need to have 1.4 as of this moment... :)

My question actually is: What is the difference between a standard 1.4a and nvidia`s "1.3 with "1.4 3D extensions"". I guess that`s not the same and so there will be also some differences in "real life", if used in a home cinema environment.

There's an additional ethernet connection and audio-return links in hdmi1.4 which Fermi was probably not designed to handle. Which I guess is why nvidia can't label Fermi as hdmi1.4 compliant.

These features are designed to reduce the number of cables you need in a home entertainment system.
New TVs connect to the internet and need an ethernet cable for high speed reliable streams, BluRay players also need one for the extra web content and software updates, Additional audio cables are required back and forth between the TV and a home cinema audio amplifier depending on the content source (BluRay player, game console, DSLTV, Embedded TV tuner, etc...) Future TV improvements include webcams to do video conference, etc... etc...

Hdmi organisation is aiming to reduce the amount of cables required by making everything go through the hdmi cable and by implementing a routing/switching mechanism inside the hdmi input/output chips.
Being hdmi 1.4 spec compliant requires the device to support all the new features included in the spec. No matter if a graphics card isn't designed for that : if the hdmi input/outputs doesn not support the feature it isn't spec compliant.

Two more question, Manuel:
Does the display port (Palit already announced a card with display port) output 10bit/channel?
What if I want to record lets say a TV program (my TV (which has an integrated tuner) is connected to an AV amplifier, that is connected to my Geforce card). Is that possible through the HDMI port?

1920 x 1080P compliant or will it downgrade it to 1080i, I am actually looking for this answer before I plunk down my $599. for one of these cards...... please let know as I have build a new animation workstation and want to equip it with the GTX 480 if indeed the 1.3a will be accepted by the hdmi 1.4 port on my stereoscopic TV.

Currently, all hdmi 1.4 TVs are limited to stereo 1920x1080p @24fps. If you want to transmit stereo @60fps the TVs can only accept lower resolutions : these are stereo 1280x720p, side by side 1080p/i (1/2 horizontal resolution in each eye, both interlaced and progressive) or over/under 1080i (1/2 vertical resolution + interlacing in each eye).

The limitation is not the GPU but the TVs.
The GPU hdmi ouput can be upgraded by firmware upgrade, the TV inputs cannot.
