JVC DLA-X3 - can I play 3D games at 1080p?
  1 / 2
Hey guys

I'm about to spend $4k on a new JVC DLA-X3. I want to hook it up to my dual GTX 580 PC - will it work with 3D Vision? I searched here and found something about it only doing 3D games in 720p, which is not acceptable for so much money!

If not, what good 1080p projectors will work with 3D vision?

There is not yet a full hd projector on the market that uses 3dvision...
So... JVC DLA-X3 does not work with 3dvision http://www.nvidia.co...rements-uk.html

Are you sure about this? This article says otherwise:

But it looks like it about the Acer h5360...that one is also not full hd.

Where talking about Full hd AND 3dvision....
There are full hd projectors, but they can't handle 3dvision...

get RGB LED/ LASER projectors those are ideal for surround ! Also you'd better forget about white screen, go for high gain screen (rear projection screen). Even with high gain screen , bulb projectors red color is less than ideal ,while LED is saturated red , much better. Check AVS forums for topics like Vivitek Qumi , Acer K330 and Optoma ML500 these will be good and Probably CASIO on the long run.

The problem is the plug. HDMI cables currently can't push through two 1080p images at 60Hz each. 3D monitors don't use an HDMI cable, they use special DVI cables.

look for similar material these are excellent!

Yep, that's what I've since discovered. Are there any projectors equipped with the special Dual-DVI connection necessary for 1080p 3D at 60Hz? It's so hard to fathom that the cable/connection - which is worth less than $100 in component costs - is holding back these projectors from a massive potential audience.

It's not only about one simple connection,...it's also the software, hardware inside the projector that cannot handle 1080p,and if it did...then you also need a (3dvision)certified projector to work...

1080p 3D is for beancounters 720 or 800p on projector is perfect!

1080p is used by professionals with anamorphic expansion, that means they turn 1080 into 2500*827pixels , thats rather 2x 720p , not 1080p!

I totally disagree - the difference between 720p and 1080p when playing PC games is absolutely huge. It's not when playing a console, because most console games are rendered natively at less than 720p. But for PC games the difference is night and day. Oh well, my dreams of a 1080p 3D Projector for PC gaming is now indefinitely on hold - guess I'll stick with my existing Sanyo PLV-Z2000 1080p projector instead.

You have no idea how totally different human perception is when we compare 2D vs 3D , thats why your comment is invalid.

You say 720p vs 1080p difference is huge, then your in a big suprise when it comes to 2D vs 3D , 3D thing makes 720p no AA totally playable for instance (whereas 720p 2D noAA is hardly playable I agree), thats how good 720p 3D DLP is.

Tritosine, please stop with your ridiculous nonsense.
1080p is superior to 720p and 3D 1080p is also superior to 3D 720p and the differences are indeed huge (it's twice the resolution).
Anamorphic systems do not modify the resolution : you start with 1080p in the projector, you end up still with 1080p on screen (that's the whole point of using anamorphic content and lenses).

Techlad wants to spend the money if it's a real 1080p unit, and he also has a PC capable of outputting his games at that resolution : using performance as an argument for 720p does not work.

To answer Techlad's original question :
The current 1080p projectors are all limited by hdmi1.4 resolutions, even the super-expensive LG CF3D dual-engine passive projector is affected.
At the moment the only way to do stereo 1080p @60Hz for such an amount of money is to use passive dual-projectors, which has all sorts of consequences on the quality of the projectors you can buy (since you have to buy two of them, if you want to stay within your budget, they have to be sub-2000$ units) and on software support (Nvidia 3D vision does not support dual-projectors), and performance (neither iZ3D or DDD currently benefit from multi-GPU).

ok then I let you beancounters continue comparing apples to oranges, and I even let you beleive that super expensive LG superghosting colorshifting projector worths its price. Hahaha what a joke. ( evil laugh)

Tritosine...
AA has nothing to do with resolution...
Sure..,with 3d on ,it looks like you have AA turned on even if it's not...

But...,if you have a higher resolution ,you can see more detail in the pictures on the screen, and detail is just a whole other thing then AA...
And if a projector with 1080p compared to 720 doesn't looks better, then it's just a convertion or a very bad quality projector...
The different should be very noticible...that's just a fact.
