No options for 3D vision settings in Nvidia Control Panel
Hi guys,
On my desktop I used to use 3D anaglyph mode which I could activate in the Nvidia control panel but I don't seem to have this option on my laptop.
I've got an Asus N73SV laptop which has an Nvidia Geforce GT 540M card in it. According to Nvidia's website it should support 3D vision. I'm using the same screen for my laptop as I used with my desktop so this can't be the issue. I also did a clean driver install but the option still doesn't appear.

That is what my Nvidia Control Panel looks like. I would really like to use 3D anaglyph on my laptop but I simply can't find out how to activate it. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I'm using Windows 8 Pro

Try going into the NVIDIA directory on your hard drive. Look for the driver folder with the highest set of numbers, that should be latest release you have installed. Look for the 3D Vision folder in there and you should find the exe for the 3D Vision install. Hit it.
I've installed the component piecemeal like that in the past and it's worked. If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure what's wrong with your system.

Looks like the classic nvidia optimus laptop issue, on paper they say it supports 3d vision, but in most cases optimus laptops end not supporting 3d vision, so no luck for you about 3d on the go.

I installed 3DVision_314.22.exe.
It didn't seem to do anything, even after restarting.

Well isn't there some way to force it on? My graphics card supports it and all I want is anaglyph 3D... Can't I edit some registry?
Even 3D Vision Discover? That *should* work on anything (it's what he said he's using).
Where can I find this? Nvidia's website tells me to look for it in start menu but there is no start menu in Windows 8....
EDIT: Some 3D vision photo viewer appeared on my desktop but when I open it I get this message.

your laptop isn't 3D vision ready.
you need 3DTV play
http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-system-requirements.html
and I cannot find anywhere on Nvidia's website stating that GT 540M supports "3D Vision."
ok, so I failed to dig those parts of the Nvidia site.
guess it's up to Nvidia to say something about this inconsistency (even if GT540M is 3d vision ready, Asus N73SV isn't); however, we'll all know you won't get any official reply here.

Well I just want anaglyph 3D like I had on my laptop. I'm using the same screen as I used for my desktop (Plugged it in to my laptop) so that can't be the problem. Is there any way to get an official response?

On old thread, but it looks like they never enabled it for laptops because OEMs specifically don't want it.

That thread also gives a hardware workaround to fake a display if you are keen to try that, and also a possible .inf that you can try to fake out the driver and make it think the display is OK.

I really don't want to go through the pain of getting those resistors. Where can I find this modded inf? I can't seem to find it in the thread.

Sorry, I missed that you are using an external monitor to your laptop- so you don't need those resistors. Those are just to fake a monitor if you don't have one.
Try setting your external monitor as your primary monitor for the OS as well as for NVidia, and reboot.
Then when running in that mode, try doing the install of the latest drivers.
Your screenshot is odd in that it does not even show you as having multiple monitors available. No "Set Up Multiple Displays" item.

indeed, that control panel is totally wrong. I haven't touched a laptop for a long time, as my memory goes, there should be hotkeys for choosing primary display (when external display is added); also can be done through configuring graphic adapter directly (not through nvcp, especially in this case, there's no multiple display option at all~)

no, not here the Nvidia forsaken land.

Hey there. this problem is due to the built in display. The built in display doesn't support 3D options. I connected an External display through HDMI port and was able to find the whole options
in NVIDIA control panel. Note: It's only applicable for gaming notebooks. Desktop versions are working fine. Try connecting an external display. Hope this helps.....
