I've been having a problem with my stereo drivers, and I think I know what the problem is - but I can't be 100% sure.
When I play games, if a big effect happens - like an big explosion in Battlefield 2, or a teargas grenade in Special Forces, the screen completely freezes, but the game continues in the background.
If I go out of stereo mode, the game is fine again, but when I get back in - freeze-frame with running audio and gameplay.
I checked the NVIDIA.LOG directory, and I am getting "exit on out of memory" errors (something like that).
I am using:
AMD X2 4600+ (Socket 939)
2GB RAM
Asus 8NV-SLI SE
EVGA 7600 GT CO (256MB RAM)
XFI Xtrememusic
To get around the problem, I have reduced my anisotropic to 2X and reduced the texture settings. But it still isn't perfect.
I am currently playing at 1280 X 1024 X 32 colors, but I still get the problem with lower resolutions.
I'm using 93.81 Beta Forceware, and the latest stereo beta driver.
Tried reverting to a earlier driver versions, same probem.
Anyone else having problems like this?
I'm really suprised by this because I thought the system would swap memory in and out of the videocard to the computer's motherboard RAM if the videocard ram was maxed out.

You seem to have enough RAM, but have you tried simular situations in other games? I mean, this problem can't be honed into just BF2!
Frankly, my only other suggestion would be to check the power consumption from your PSU to your GPU. Your GPU could not be getting enough juice and henceforth freezes.

I use 93.81/93.81 beta drivers combo. But in my case problem happens only if I run stereo in greater resolutions than 1024x768.
After fresh reinstall of windows, stereo suddenly worked in 1152x864 and 1280x1024, at 100hz but only in nVidia test screen. Games in that resolution won't run in stereo and I get out of memory logs
It seams that stereo drivers aren't optimized for greater resolutions tha 1024x768

I'm thinking the added AA with the stereo driver on might be filling up your video memory. Just a guess. So I think your use of /bloated.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':X' /> is very accurate.
