Hi,
although stock DS2 is 3DV playable with shadows off, of course I like it muuuuch more with the Helix EVGA fix (the other fix crashes the game upon launch)
but, with the fix, the Steam in-game overlay does not display, and the screenshot capture feature does not work as well
any suggestion?
thanks

in the meantime I have a clue to add: in FSX, with ENB tweak on and bloom activated, I've had the same behaviour... toggling away bloom has restored a correct overlay functioning

Does any of this work? Or maybe you could try dropping a newer version of the release dll in the folder overwriting the one that came with the override.
If you have crashes or you're using EVGA(with compatibility option on), try this dll.

Don't forget to turn off Origin in-game setting before starting game. Or it will crash.
Steam MAY crash as well. If it does click here

thanks for directing me better, it looks like I've already tried your options, and Helix generic tutorial page specifies that Steam Overlay has to be disabled, in some cases
yet the Bloom toggle behaviour in FSX is telling me that maybe - I'm not an expert, of course - there is some (bloom?) setting that somewhere can resolve this overlay issue .... hopefully, and where? :-)

I've tried the trick that succeeded in FSX (bloom off), with no luck
I've tried to read into DX9settings.ini, for me it was like reading vietnamese :-( :-)
I saw a similar thread on the Steam forums. Try using the Injection version of the HelixMod. That uses a different, and probably more compatible way to hook the library.
Not sure this will work, because it will use a different dll, but it's worth a try.
Go to the page for Dead Space 3, and download the co-op fix which uses the injection technique. Keep your DS2 fix in place as it's the right code for the right game. All the other DS3 stuff will be wrong for DS2.
Drop the 'helixmod.dll' and 'HelixmodLauncher.exe' into the DS2 directory and rename the older d3d9.dll to xxd3d9.dll to disable it.
Run the HelixModLauncher and leave the window open. Run the DS2.

bo3b,
the DS3 launcher has the overlay working, yet with the standard 3DV shortcomings, the Helix fix is not on
Pirateguybrush,
I like the Steam overlay because I like to take screenshots and keep them "organized" in the Steam library
.............
:-) for playing DS2 and DS3 with the awesome Helix fix, for this time, I can certainly live with using Fraps
OK, I have a fix for you I think. Thanks for trying that HelixModLauncher approach. (And a suggestion for better fun)
Go to the Dead Space 3 fix, and download the fix for that game, but only use the DLL for the normal non-co-op fix. I dropped that into the DS2 folder, and I could launch with the Steam overlay up. The older DLL for DS2 might just have a bug that was later fixed.
Let us know if that doesn't work for you.
Also of note, you might want to use the original exe that shipped with the game. They patched it to the current version, but nerfed out the game fairly badly by giving you all the console DLC for free. This makes it quite a lot easier than it was intended.
If you want to play the original version, download the exe here: http://bo3b.net/deadspace2.exe
And set the auto-update to off, otherwise it will update over top of it.
