can not set up 3d with dlp link glasses
  1 / 3
hi everyone, so i've been reading endless forum posts for days now with absolutely no progress on setting up my 3d projector with dlp link glasses. why will nvidia not offer support for regular 3d anymore? i don't want to buy their glasses or their pyramid IR base. i have the qumi q2 lite projector and some generic dlp link glasses from ebay. i've tried everything to get passed the set up screen for stereoscopic view but nothing works. i've downloaded 3rd party drivers (did nothing), many different stereo players (won't recognize any stereosopic drivers), the 3dtv play trial which didn't recognize my projector, even an IR emitter emulator which didn't install properly. there's nothing left for me to do besides buy nvidia's glasses, which i refuse to do after all the problems and stress they've caused me. can someone PLEASE tell me how to set this up? what am i doing wrong? there has to be a way to use the 3d drivers without the 3d vision kit. if there isn't, then that is very sad for companies like nvidia, who i used to think highly of. it's not like i can rip the graphics card out of my laptop after having it for only about a year and try a different one. when i first bought a computer with nvidia 3d drivers, it seemed they had support for regular glasses and tv set ups.. WHERE DID THAT GO?!

The Qumi is an HDMI 1.3 projector. So it is not supported by 3DTV Play, which only supports HDMI 1.4. HDMI 1.3 projectors must be supported by Nvidia 3D Vision. Only projectors from manufacturers that have purchased 3D Vision certification from Nvidia work. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-displays.html So Nvidia offers no official support for that projector. ok thanks, that is good to know. however, i am not trying to use the official 3d vision kit. i simply want to use my dlp link glasses with the projector. how can i enable stereoscopic 3d without going through the 3d vision set up asking me to plug in an IR emitter? and what is the unofficial support you speak of? can i use the nvidia card to enable 3d on my computer/projector without using their 3dvision kit? any help is much appreciated!
can i use the nvidia card to enable 3d on my computer/projector without using their 3dvision kit?
3D Vision and 3DTV Play are stereographic gaming. You should look elsewhere for unofficial support. Can "YOU" get it to work? No idea? Seems like you tried. Try harder? It's likely that the Qumi only supports a frame sequential format at 1024x768@120Hz. Did it come with a manual? See what it says, it may only support it via VGA and not HDMI.

i have been trying for 3 consecutive days to get this thing to work. the only problem is that the nvidia setup won't let me pass the part where i need to plug in an IR emitter. i haven't even gotten to any settings where i could set a framerate or resolution. i've tried vga and hdmi, and there were no manuals with either product i got. only thing i found was this online: http://www.vivitek.co.uk/pdfs/Qumi_DLPLink_Setup.pdf and if this thing is right, then it's saying it will only work with the quad buffer opengl settings. why wouldn't my nvidia drivers be sufficient? i am on an asus g74sx with a geforce gtx 560m gpu. does this card have this function? i never heard of this till today. i really can't see what else i have to do just to enable stereoscopic games and moveis on my computer.. i know it is capable of it. i've looked everywhere for workarounds and hacks and rolling back drivers... i just can't seem to make any progress with anything at all. there's no way to enable stereoscopic mode without having the 3d vision kit? what would be the point of that besides to cripple sales?

Need emitter/ 3d tv play. Not sure which projector you have but you need a compatible one as well otherwise you need an .inf hack (trick to think its a compatible one). Look at 3d vision blog forums, I wont go into detail beyond that for a way. Otherwise can buy emitter here .http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Emitter-for-Nvidia-3D-Vision-System-/150928792767?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23240e9cbf

hmm. that might be the most useful tip/lead i've encountered in my quest so far, thanks. i'm looking at the edid hacks going on and trying to see if it will work for me. but just to be clear, if i change the inf file and it recognizes my projector as compatible.. i don't have to use 3d vision glasses and emitter? just my projector and dlp link specs would work?

I'm not an expert here, but it seems to me that you are missing the 3D TV Play software. You cannot get just the NVidia driver alone to produce 3D. You either need their emitter+3D Vision glasses, or your TV+glasses and 3D TV Play software. The point of spoofing an edid is to allow software to run that would not otherwise run. In your case, it seems like you need 3D TV Play, which you can buy separately. BTW, I'm not really a defender of NVidia, but you are attempting to get something to work which is not certified, nor supported by NVidia; using NVidia software. Once you step outside of the certified realm, you are in hacker land, and it's going to be hard. Not impossible, but hard.

hmm, i have downloaded 3dtv play with no success, but as dman said earlier, my projector only supports hdmi 1.3 where as 3dtv play requires hdmi 1.4. so if this is the case, there's no way of getting 3d on my pc without 3d vision glasses?..without hacks or workarounds? seem like i've tried pretty much everything else. what about xbox or ps3? if i have a dlp projector and dlp link glasse, that should be all i need right?

We know you do not want to spend any money to make 3D work on your projector. So I will not bother to tell you that there are converters that will accept Side by Side/ Over and Under and convert the format to frame sequential. like the Optoma 3D-XL, Viewsonic VP3D!, 3D Fury, VIP Theater(plus other models)....as well as some of the cheap 2D-3D converters

what's with the hostility... i'm posting here so i can get the information. i didn't research my projector, i was trying to research how to enable the nvidida 3d drivers, and i hadn't looked up anything on the xbox or ps3... which is why i asked. and i've already spent plenty of money on a dlp projector.. and dlp link glasses... you figure they'd work together.. along with the "3d ready" drivers i got with my nvidia graphics card... it doesn't say "3d ready only if you buy our glasses" i just don't want to give more money to companies that trick you into buying their crap that isn't even sold in stores anymore. it all works with the same technology under the same concepts.. there should be no reason for companies to force you to buy their glasses, especially when i thought nvidia supported other monitors/displays previously. thanks so much for being kind and not telling me about the converters. even if i had a video that was in frame sequential format, i couldn't play it on my computer because the nvidia stereoscopic mode is not enabled and won't be without the glasses. correct? i can't spend another $400 on a converter that's almost the same price as my projector and probably a rip off. i would have just bought a 1080p regular projector if i was planning on buying a converter like 3d fury. this is just rediculous that it seems there is literally no way to enable 3d on my projector/computer when they are both "3d ready" to refine my question... can i enable stereoscopic 3d on my computer without nvidia 3d vision kit. like for example if i could somehow roll back my nvidia drivers? did they support 3d on any monitor in the passed like i thought i remembered seeing?

BTW, you shouldn't be mad at Nvidia for Optoma labeling your projector 3D Ready and thus confusing you. They could have opted for Nvidia 3D Vision certification. They know how to do it and have done so in the past with the GT360, GT750 and HD66. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-displays.html
