This means that the emitter driver either isn't installed or is installed incorrectly. Uninstall and reinstall the 3DVision drivers (making sure your emitter is unplugged first and only plugging it in when the 3DVision Setup asks you to do so). Your PC and motherboard might also be doing weird things to the USB controller on boot, so it would probably be best to leave the emitter unplugged on boot and only plug it in after you start Windows.

I would return it for replacement, the emitter is a very low power device and should never get hot.

I got several USB sticks that have leds in them indicating usage, and when I use them for long amounts of time (or leave them in my system, where they keep lighting up because my usb ports always carry on power even if the pc is shut off) they tend to get pretty hot too. However, some are even over 5 years old and they still work like new. So you see, just because its low-power doesn't mean it can't get hot.

HOWEVER! (dun dun dunnnn)

If his emitter is flickering irregular, then I do think its a hardware failure and that its simply cutting its electrical circuit short. Which can generate pretty much heat, I can say out of personal experience with several pieces of old hardware. I got the scars to proof it.
