Because it sure as hell ain't the 3Dvision that me and all my friends and family are seeing!. The common answers to that question seem to be: they've only seen low-depth movies; they've only seen nvidia's default low depth, they've never turned the convergence up and seen real popout. My 2c is that it's much more subtle than what people have actually seen. Something more along the lines of it being forced onto the average TV buyer, making them think they are paying extra for something they don't care about. Then, they are predisposed to not be generous. The TV makers were rabid, and I think that hurt.
My other 2c is that it became hip (hipster maybe) to be snobbish about 3D and how it was an inferior experience and only daft noobs would want to use something dumb like that, and geez here we are in the 3rd incarnation of the fad, and so on. Very much predetermined, without actually trying it. Some things like this take hold on the internet, like memes, and you just can't get away from it. Once the die was cast, it's hard for anyone to say anything positive. The hipsters also just Love the idea of VR and Oculus and it became the The Next Big Thing. There's not a gigantic difference between being able to look around, and higher quality 3D. But people are fundamentally irrational and they like the short cuts of being in the "in" club.
Amen to that!
Thats just how people work, well many it seems.
Just take a look at all the idiots that upgrade to the lastest and greatest mobile phones, just to be in the club and feel hip. the world is really crazy :/

There's also a lot of people that just won't wear the glasses - no matter how compelling the content is or would be, which is hard to understand -- particularly when many of these same people are so enthusiastic about Oculus VR :-)
I have several good friends that look at the 3D movies on the TV and projector in my home, and the games and photos on my PC and say "yeah, it's cool - but I won't wear the glasses".
3D in the theater though, continues to do well. I guess many of more casual consumers just feel "too nerdy" wearing 3D glasses at home... ??

I think a story on 3dvisionlive sounds like a great idea. Though I'm compelled to point out a personal irony here. By your definition, I'm a power user....yet I've never visited 3dvisionlive, and I honestly don't even know what it is! I don't even know for sure how to take a 3d screenshot, as I've never tried it! A lot of the technical stuff people talk about on this forum is mumbo jumbo to me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I don't think we're all as hardcore as you think.
I use the helixmod not because I inherently enjoy fooling around with dll files and hacks, but because it was one of the first things that came up on google once I got my 3d monitor and started figuring out how to use it. When a brand new '3d noob' googles "how can I get my favourite new game to work with 3d vision?" they're very likely to come across the helixmod very quickly. In my experience, it's mentioned in the same breath as 3dvision almost anywhere you go. And if those people are anything like me, they'll find and install the helixmod long before they see your story on 3dvisionlive.
You're obviously right about 3D market not being not being "hot" right now. I'd personally place it somewhere between frigid and icy. But I would almost bet my life savings that this will improve over the next year or two (if nvidia lets it). I'm not saying it'll become lava hot, but it seems almost certain to me that it will improve. For two main reasons: The Oculus rift, and Gsync.
The Oculus Rift. When it comes out, two things will happen. Firstly, a LOT of people will buy it. Secondly, a LOT of those people will be disappointed by it. That is to say, they'll fall in love with the Rift (and whether or not they realise it, much of its appeal is its stereoscopic 3D), and 2D gaming will lose its appeal, as it has for most of us.
But they'll be frustrated by the dearth of supported games for the Rift, because of the multitude of hurdles in the way (most Rift games will need to be designed from the ground up, and few big studios will be willing to do that for such a comparatively small market; games in VR will need to be first-person, so forget using the Rift with Assassins' Creed 5 or Mass Effect 4; fast-moving camera in VR gives many people motion sickness, so don't expect to see Dirt 4 or Crysis 4 support the Rift; Since movement will be slower than regular games, getting from A to B will take a tediously long time, so that probably mean no Elder Scrolls 6 either; Actually, once you narrow it down, there's not much left apart from Gone Home 2). All this is to say that the Rift will give a lot of new people a thirst for 3D, but the majority of games will not support VR......but if nvidia plays their cards right, those games *will* support the 'next best thing', which is 3Dvision.
Gsync. As I understand it, all Gsync monitors will be 3Dvision-capable. So as gsync monitors start becoming the norm (at least among enthusiast gamers), many people will suddenly find themselves much closer to trying 3D: the cost of a kit, rather than the cost of an entire new monitor. That's a dramatically different prospect, and will undoubtedly result in more gamers making the small investment necessary to try 3Dvision.
However, what both of these groups have in common (Oculus Rift users, Gsync adopters) is that they will be to some degree "power users". So I don't know how well they will be served by a 3D compatibility mode that is targeting the "casual market". I also share the fear that others have voiced, that the 3D compatibility mode may well hurt 3Dvision more than help it, by scaring people off (since, as we know, many people seem to be 3D sceptics already, so it won't take much).
At least the 3D vision profiles and 3D compatibility profiles are treated as separate on the driver page, which is good. Though a brief summary of what each is would probably be of use.
Sorry for the very long post again. I try to write clearly and considerately, supporting my arguments, but it means that the paragraphs sprout like mushrooms.

You're welcome - I enjoy it, well most of it ;-) At my core, I'm a gamer like most of the folks around here and understand the frustration (but maybe not how it's communicated sometimes :-))
3DVisionLive.com was created not for gaming, but as a value-add for the 3D Vision community - a tool to show people that 3D Vision is more than games, which is why (to date) it hasn't focused on games but instead 3D phototography and 3D video clips. The goal was for it to be a kind of 3D Flickr/3D YouTube for people that own 3D Vision. In this respect, it has been a modest success - there are over 30,000 3D images on the site and nearly 1,000 videos. The quality varies, of course, but there is lots of fun/high quality content on there. (Youtube3D has been... challenging to keep working on the site due to constant changes with how it works, and the FireFox requirement, and now general dearth of HTML5 3D content.)
I know some of the modders use it to show gameplay videos of issues certain mods fix and the same with screens. Taking 3D screenshots is relatively simple - hit Alt-f1 in-game and you'll see an "image captured" notification. Default location is, I believe, My Documents\NVStereoscopic3D.IMG - then you can just create an free account on 3DVisionLive.com and upload the shots. Videos are more difficult but hopefully, ShadowPlay will help with this.
Occasionally we run photo/video contests on there and give away monitors/glasses and once in a while - cash prizes. (Maybe I need to get some game-centric competitions going and advertise them here.)
I think it could be a good place, now, to gather information on the modding scene in one place with supporting screens and videos and showcase mods for new games that come out. A lot of general 3D Vision users come to the site based on our links and package marketing, etc., so it would just be more eyeballs on the mods.
It will be interesting to see how Oculus plays out - and if the dev support at large will be there for the device before the installed base is proven. Just speaking as an enthusiast here myself.

I wonder if eqzitara has analytics that tell him how many people download various helixmods? I'm sure it's not anything like all 3Dvision users, but it's probably the majority of *active* 3Dvision users, since one can barely game without it. I found out about and was using the helixmod before I ever ventured into this forum. Like I said, it was one of the first things I came across once I started googling about 3Dvision.
I have no way of knowing. People could wind up on site and not be a 3d user. Not to mention people who reinstall games/patches/check for updates. Like oblivion 40,000 views/ borderlands 2 25,000 views doesnt sound realistic.
There also many 3d vision users who do not know of helixmod tbh.
Anywho its all gibberish numbers.

Well, I supposed I may as well add my 2 cents on this totally derailed topic...
I really appreciate Steve's involvement with our forum. Speaking from personal experience regarding customer service, is that I am WAAAY more inclined to help people when they present a logical argument, and don't resort to anger or frustration. In fact, the quickest way for me to totally shut down on giving someone ANY assistance is for that person to start yelling and cursing, or somehow make it personal. That's what some have done in this thread and others, and it is NOT the best way to get the point across.
I currently own two games on the CM list, Strike Suit Zero and Shogun 2. Neither game is on my 'hot' list at the moment, and I stopped installing Beta drivers a while ago. I can't, therefore, comment objectively on how well it looks, but going off of prior experience (I played Arkham Asylum GOTY edition on my buddy's XBox, which uses 'fake' 3D, and I still enjoyed it), I'm thinking that I will appreciate the added compatibility. In fact, the reason I haven't finished either of those games (SSZero; S2:TW), is because they don't work worth a crap in 3D. NOW I will probably play them, since I will be getting SOME form of 3D.
So, again, thanks Steve, and for NVidia not totally giving up on 3D. I realize the market is not inclined towards 3D right now, but holy heck! I don't know what I would do if 3D died altogether! It's nearly impossible for me to stomach 2D gaming after being spoiled with 3D Vision. And Steve, I'm one of those 'power users' who has spent a lot of money on Nvidia GPUs - I wouldn't own one of your most expensive GPUs to date if not for 3D Vision. While I don't condone the nasty way some people approach the topic on these threads, I do concur that it would be in NVidia's best interests to keep customers like me around. So if there's anything you can do to increase support for 3D, PLEASE do so. Thanks!

SteveK, first I would like to echo others that have thanked you for being active in this forum and for showing us that NVIDIA still has at least some interest in 3D.
I would appreciate it if you would look into one bug that I have been dealing with for 2 months now and is present in all drivers that support my 780 Ti's. The combination of 3D Vision, SLI and Win 8.1 make for very bad experience. I have gotten around it in some games by forcing vsync off in NVIDIA Inspector and using frame limiter. ManuelG was responding to me at one point and even stated no too long ago that it would be fixed in the next driver (this was prior to this driver being released). But it still exists for me.
I posted some details about my testing in the following post: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/679611/official-nvidia-334-67-beta-display-driver-feedback-thread-released-1-27-14-/?offset=176#4106404
Would you be able to check on this item?
Also, with these drivers, I cannot seem to find a way to get AC4 to not be a stuttery mess with 3D Vision compatibility mode enabled. If I switch to standard 3D the picture is a mess but my frame rates are stable. As soon as I switch to comparability mode my frame rates drop and are very unstable and just moving the camera causes a lot of stutter. The behavior is much like what I have had with GRID2 and Tomb Raider. But, the vsync "fix" does not seem to resolve the issue.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did not try switching compatibility mode off, because it's presumably not enabled for that old game.

On another note, thanks for the on/off toggle feature on the compatability mode, that is a big one for me since I know I want it off. I will now update my drivers.....

I have performance problems when 3D is installed, enabled or disabled doesn't matter with the 337 drivers. Hitman and Lego Marvel drops to 30-20 fps and feels like a slideshow. I tried disabling shadercache but that doesn't work.

I don't think anyone here is suggesting that
Amen to that!

Aye, I got the same response on couple of occasions... When I hear it though...I am thinking where are the damn contact lenses:))) That would be truly epic:)))

Want to make a minor correction there: ALT+F1 (Alt+F4 will quit the app) I bet Steve didn't notice;))
