Hardware test fails on PG278Q (ROG Swift)
  1 / 3
Hey folks I have recently bought the ASUS PG278Q (aka ROG Swift) monitor. Yesterday I got myself a 3D vision 2 kit. Installation of drivers went smooth, however when I get to the hardware test of the 3D setup I fail the test, because I can see both the triangle and the hexagon (and yes, I do close my eyes alternatively). Fooling the system and saying everything is fine makes 3D content being shown with extreme crosstalk. Uninstalling drivers with DDU, rolling back to 340.43, changing resolution, refresh rate, 3D depth through the hardware wheel on the emitter or even setting the IR emitter at different distances doesn't help. Both in the hardware manager as well as the software manager everything appears as it should (monitor, transmitter, drivers etc.) - at least as far as my knowledge goes. Any ideas what the problem might be? Since crosstalk is pretty much a sync problem - I tend to believe the trouble is hardware related. To help, here are the most important system specs: Win 7 Home Premium x64 current driver 340.52 monitor as mentioned PG278Q GTX 780 ti Phantom Connection by DP-cable (came with the monitor and is the only port available on it) Cheers

Vs a VG278H it's atleast the same if not better. In terms of visual fidelity, it's notably better, also the slim bezel gives a better immersion factor, overall a better experience. But not major.
Just confirming I have a PG278Q also and 3d vision is working perfectly.
How did you go about installing 3D vision? Did you have the emitter plugged in before you began installation? Did you install the display drivers, restart and then install the 3D vision drivers or did you all do it in one sitting?

Just done it in the one sitting, I have actually uninstalled and reinstalled drivers several times now and had no issues in setting up 3D...

Is anyone getting weird strips in 3d mode like I am getting? http://s11.postimg.org/45yzvh2ar/20140826_121125.jpg Even in the shape test it puts white lines into the shapes so in theory I can not pass it because they don't look anything like the ones below.

My old VG248 is a lot better than the PG278Q i ordered. In fact, crosstalk was rather horrible, and I had the same stripes as Karlision. Hoping that this was just a defective screen, I ordered a second from a different supplier, it had exactly the same issue. There are other cases where the vertical lines show up as well, not just in 3D mode. I returned both. I've yet to see a PG278Q working perfectly.

Wouldn't be surprised if Asus contacted you to use some quotes on the boxes.

I have been a 3d gamer since the initial launch and used every monitor to date. The PG278Q is on a totally different level. I really need to stress the import have the thin bezel makes, particularly in a dark room. The picture feels like it is floating and the immersion is incredible. Whilst going to a 1440p screen requires more horsepower, it actually has given me better performance overall. I have sli titans and the gpu usage was always around 60-70% at 1080p, now at 1440p my gpu usage is pegged at 99% and performace is amazing. Highly recommend to any seasoned 3d gamer.

First off: Thanx for the replies. After using DDU and reinstalling drivers 340.52 again it worked. However, if anyone else faces the problem: have the emitter connected by USB all the time. The setup routine tells you to connect the emitter after you install the drivers. Don't do that - or you might end up going in circles like I did :) Now that monitor with 3D visin is plain and simple; AWESOOOOOME! Of course that's me coming from a 13 year old 17-inch BenQ. So, for those interested - I'll be posting my short review of the ROG Swift right here a tad later. For now, I got to run.
