Bought a 3D ready monitor, have had 0 luck making anything go 3d...
  1 / 3
I got a gr235h Acer 23" monitor and it came with glasses. I have a gtx 460..

But I can't play any games in 3d!! Nothing goes in 3d..

In the settings all I can do is select stereoscopic on, and thats it! All other option is greyed out... Please help, there arent even any options to fiddle around with to try and fix it myself..

I read this over at Bloody's 3D Vision Blog in his review of the Acer 27 inch passive 3D monitor. So MAYBE it's the same for the 23 inch model?

"Update: Ok, so it is not exactly official 3D Vision support, but instead Acer has licensed the GeForce 3D software driver from Nvidia in order to get the same game support, features, etc. as 3D Vision-ready active monitors do offer, but in the form of a passive 3D solution."

http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/acer-gr235h/

Do you have the latest drivers installed? You must also install 3D Vision portion of the Nvidia drivers. Make sure the display is being recognized by Windows and Nvidia. It also needs to be connected as your primary monitor.

Bloody mentions 3D Vision supported, so it might only enable via the DVI connection if it has one? Make sure you only feed it a 60Hz signal or you may damage it.

Different parameters are used in EDIDs for each type of connection, if the monitor came with a driver disc you'll need to install it (this will install the individual drivers for HDMI, VGA and DVI)

You might contact Acer support as well, to confirm they are offering the same support for their 23 inch model as the 27 inch. They may not have certified the 23 inch with Nvidia.

Can you be more specific or provide a screenshot of the NV Control Panel? When you check 'enable 3D' in the NV Control Panel it should launch you into a setup wizard, did that happen?

Also if you have 2 monitors connected, disconnect the 2nd display until you get things sorted out.

Hi there, yes I have beta drivers installed now to try skyrim,mw3 and other games I have. It is primary monitor and I can only connect through hdmi. There is an option only 720p @ 60hz, 1080p @ 24hz in 3d mode, but 3d mode does nothing... All it does is either make resolution smaller or at 1080p slow down the frame rate in desktop and games.... and in games it does nothing, no 3d effect..

I dont have that interface to see game compatibility or to load games, even though i have Acer monitor.
I installed disk contents and it was nothing good at all... it gave TriDef but its VERY old copy (-2.0) when latest on website it 5.0, it is buggy software and run later games very badly, it can only work in half life and thats as far as it goes. You cant even update it or the driver...
Anyway yes i did install driver but to no avail. There is no nvidia functionality and i'm disappointed.. i dont see why it shouldnt have..

Thanks all for help so far you have been great.. I hope there is a work-around at the very least to allow nvidia to let me play games in 3d... all the information and data is installed on my computer,, why must nvidia lock it out.. thanks.

Unfortunately that monitor does not support 3D Vision natively, but you may be able to get 3DTV Play to work with it. Generally, 3D Vision support works with 3D Vision hardware (monitor, emitter, glasses). If you use the HDTV display's own native hardware for 3D (emitter, glasses), you need 3DTV Play. The software costs $40 but I do believe there is a free trial version you can try first. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-14day-trial.html

Hope that helps.

See where it says "set keyboard shortcuts", in the area you have circled? You want to enable that feature and it will show you the keys used, such as control+t toggles 3D on and off. When you adjust depth, it will show an overlay indicating the setting as you aincrease or decrease, this does not show up when adjusting convergence.

Bloody mentioned that Acer ponied up for Nvidia certification, I doubt he got that confused with 3DTV Play. Some of the Mitsubishi TVs are supported via 3D Vision using a HDMI connection and DLP Link glasses.

Remember 60Hz signal not 120Hz, you might damage something.

Oops, I missed the obvious. Neither the 3DTV Play or 3D Vision logo is shown, indicating it's supported. You may have to wait for official support or purchase 3DTV Play as suggested.

Edit: I see it's listed as a HDMI 1.4 Blu-Ray 3D. so the driver sees something

So you can not turn on 3D using control+t while in a game? control+F4 increases 3D depth, control+F3 decreases it.

Actually, now that I had some time to look this 23 inch monitor up. I see that Acer opted to support it with TriDef, so you need to try to add it to 3DTV Play http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2774

I dont think the hdmi 1.4 blu-ray 3D is real-time update, I think its just a default 'first selection' as it never detected my monitor. No options work

Add it? What do you mean, sorry. I am having to use tridef right now but it is a horrible means to an end if you understand where im coming from. it is horrible outdated software in rapidly changing 3d market with tweaks and new games coming all the time... The 3d effect is very bad in many games and I know for sure that nvidia 3d does so much better.

Thank s again all..

Based on the games i've played with Tridef and Nvidia, Tridef is winning slightly. That for 3D quality. It also ups my resolution slightly and allows me to record in 3D.

All the games I tried with TriDef had the unnerving habit of changing the convergence depending on the scene. And that makes me want to puke, literally. Most visible in Assassin's Creed II for example. To see that, just move someplace where people are moving between the camera and the player. Remove the glasses. You will see that the convergence changes whenever a NPC is entering the space between the player and the camera.

It's especially sad, since otherwise it's perfect in AC.

@Grestorn
Turn off auto-focus. Auto focus is awesome in quite a few games. You can actually adjust auto zoom as well so it will only zoom in at a certain distance point.

Tridef can look equal or better then nvidia is most cases to be honest. Just got to put in work and adjust profile(yes you can adjust it...). Only problem is it lags more then 3d vision and no sli.
Tridef is 3d vision except a much more advanced interface with more options and you take more of a hit in fps category.

Wrote auto-zoom at first lol

You have to turn on "custom focus" which only uses your settings. I hate that too and i can't fathom why it set to default on. Im going to make a post about it on their forums soon, horrible decision. In Mass Effect 1, its necessary when in cutscenes though, at least on my setup, so i made it a single-key hotkey for that. Tridef make Mass Effect playable imo, I almost went 2D for the whole game when i only had Nvidia. Nvidia wouldn't allow AA in 3D either for some reason.I havn't noticed any perceivable fps over and above the decrease i should get from having my resolution upped 12%.
