I'm pretty sure it is just a matter of time before that happens, and hopefully Nvidia will allow it. My biggest concern would be that they block is, as it's not NVidia 3D hardware. My argument would be to Nvidia, still helps sell your top end silly priced cards, but would the suits hear me...
Still exciting news that guys are working to bring content to new hardware.

Interesting, but I didn't see anything about it being 3D, plenty of people asking in the thread but I didn't see an answer. I'm more interested in the 3D SNES emulator now.

Im all for rift development especially in immersion games even exclusive if they want to. Im not elitist or anything but 3D Vision/side by side support makes more sense with an emulator. Lieing on couch, controller in hand. Not to mention arent games 4:3 ratio[though in all fairness i didnt notice stretching]
Im kind of curious of compatibility. Its a lot of 2D in snes. So alot of games seem off, like im not sure if I am just initially wow'd or if like this is something I will start playing and say oh.....

Could you make it 3D? I don't even get how that would be possible without hacking the roms and layering the sprites, which would be a one by one job. Bugger that, spend time making games like Infinite work in 3D, please, for the love of god!!!
Personally, I would pay up to £1000 for an OR with 1080 or something similar res, and a AAA game that works perfect with it (with separate gun controlled by mouse.) That's why I am very happy I have my job here, next year you boys are going to help me pick out a new rig when the consumer model comes out. 120 FPS minimum is my target ;-)
Still, I do love these small projects as it can only increase the interest and buzz around the hardware. I think anyone who programs a 'skype' style program where you use OR and avatars to communicate with friends could become pretty rich. Tie it up with motion control, and you can have fully functional VR Skype. The porn industry would start to thrive once more :-D

Id wait for a release and people try it before panicking.
It just doesnt seem right. Like 2D sprites on 2D backgrounds. Like its looks like when I play around with googleearth's profile.

This game is a best case of playing with googleearth, I've always considered it useless.
Im not saying its not gonna work in some games but I just have a feeling its not many. Perhaps I am missing something, but its just off to me. Like SNES is not rayman origins where its layered 2D, its just 2D. Chiri would be the person to ask about something like that but don't know where he is.

I dont even think there is support for a third person game right now [could be wrong]. Playing a third person game just takes away from all of rift's perks. It would just be like 3d vision on a bad monitor [as long as game can make fov changes]. Someone was excited for Mass effect on the vorpx thread and that just really made me scratch my head.
Size does matter! Play MASS EFFECT on the monitor, or HMZ T-1, 2 - two very different things!
To obtain the effect of presence in VR - not necessarily the only control your character in the first person.

@Arni1984
That was me.
I have a projector thats at least 30% bigger in FOV then hmz-t1 from when I tested it[I had no reason to keep it]. So I can understand the sentiment of size matters.
You will need FOV changes and they have issues with ME series just to make it feel not scrunched up on the rift unless they resolved that somehow[Cinematics are filmed at a certain FOV]. Then you need to play it on a low resolution display AND on depth buffer. Go download tridef, then play mass effect on depth buffer on hmz-t1 it will be similiar experience you will be trading FOV for resolution [Resolution is MUCH more important in mass effect games].
Curse me, wish i was never born, whatever. I beat the ME games more times then you could imagine and Im not saying this as a 3D vision guy but as a fan of the series. Just do me a favor and download tridef trial and actually try depth buffer. It will cost you maybe an hour of your time. Maybe I am wrong and you will enjoy it. I just doubt it, Tridef users do not have the amazing patches and still they'd rather play it using normal method which has a lot of issues. I honestly believe if your getting a rift for mass effect series you would be happier with your hmz-t1. Helix, mana84 put a lot of work into Mass Effect 3D because its awesome on 3D but thats the NOT the same 3D that the vorpx is. Depth buffer is a one step, no work, auto method [not saying its not hard to implement as an engine. Its leagues beyond me]. Its a hit/miss method imo[some games work better then other] and from the games I've tried it on seems better in first person games. If you want to kick it up a notch. Drop rift dev. kit and get a projector unless buying a rift for first party titles. I really don't recommend it for third party titles [u]yet[/u]. May a come a time when someone tries to make me eat my words back but its a developer kit.... not a product.
If it wasnt so hard to implement 3D on occulus rift you wouldn't see a developer kit but there is. Heck, Valve practically had a research team. So as you can imagine there are alot of downfalls of using depth buffer which kicks out the "middle man." I guess that sums it up.

[quote="andysonofbob"]Are you able to try any combat flight sims or a space combat game like Evochron? I imagine these types of cockpit games would be awesome on the OR![/quote]Nothing really complete is working yet, so I haven't seen any flight sims or space combat games.
The best we can do is a demo called First Rule, which is flying an X-Wing type spacecraft through a meteor field. It's surprisingly effective, and turning your head allows you see the wings further back. It leads me to think that Rift style gaming might actually be a different niche where you are in a cockpit/driving of some form. It's quite impressive, and no sim-sickness because of the non-moving cockpit.
Here's a fairly comprehensive list of games/demos supported by Rift or expected to be supported.
[url]http://theriftlist.com/[/url]
Microsoft FSX is on the list with VorpX driver, but it's vapor ware at present. Even Hawken is MIA, and it was demoed at GDC a couple of months ago.
[quote="Tepescovir"]I think the half life 2 needs the beta build as well as the -vr switch to fully activate it so it allows independent movment of the crosshairs and head. otherwise its just mouse control with the rift.
there was something in the rift forums about opting in to the beta. [/quote]Yes, that is the better variant, made by Valve that directly supports Rift. I've got that one working smoothly and it's pretty good. Good presence, and not an eye-strain.
The other variant is to use the Vireio driver, which also supports HL2, but not at the same time of course. That variant I could not get to work, and it should work on any game, so Beta should not be required. I got it to work on QUBE for example.
I wanted to see that other variant, because the Vireio driver unlocks convergence and depth, and I wanted to compare it to the Valve locked version. No luck so far.
I also tried Mirrors Edge and Aaaaaa! with Vireio driver. Both are punishing on the eyes, something is either not right with the driver, or I have yet to find the right incantation for visual setup. It seems like I have too much depth and not enough convergence, always. I can't turn depth down any further, and it matches the SHOCT tool setup. Not clear yet, but I'll keep jacking with it. Being a long time 3D Vision user, I know what a properly calibrated system should be, and it can't be straining to converge the images like it is now.
Outside of that, the 5 minutes I played is pretty great. When you look over the edge of a building in Mirror's Edge you definitely get the feeling that it would suck to fall from this high.
Same in AAaaaaa! Where you actually fall on purpose. Really great skydiving feeling.

I played through the depth buffer using TriDef. Of course, as the depth buffer can not be compared with this 3D ... But we have no choice! Let us rejoice in the fact that there is. Hopefully, Ralf knows what he does.
I ordered RIFT even before he learned about VorpX and about the support MASS EFFECT 2-3 :-)
By the way! This I have terrorized requests for corrections HALO 2, GEARS OF WAR, SPACE MARINE by HELIX-MOD ... ;-))

Hawken works. I forced it two weeks ago because I was curious. That youtuber that everyones raving about his rift videos has instructions [cymatic bruce?]. Its one of those half assed implementations [which is ironic because they did alot of work... problem is rift requires a shit ton]. You have to turn off hud to make it viable. Its something to play around with but not actually "compete" with. Its like mirror's edge from what I heard people talk about it. Real awesome but impossible to play with [atm].
Its ironic because while I am not really interested in a future of just depth buffer 3d gaming. Tridefs depth buffer makes Hawken pretty viable, 3dizzy.com has a video. So if vorpx comes around it could be decent. Maybe it will get lucky and be able to use depthbuffer + hawkens built in head tracking.
@arni1984
It's cool. Just wanted to make sure you werent buying it for Mass effect. Cause I can guarantee its not gonna be nearly as good. Other games *shrug* who knows. Its got a much bigger hurdle to cross then we do. Not to mention the low res issues [screen door, can't read text, pixels, aa]
Yea, space marine is my biggest disaster. Its so close yet so far away.

It was attempted by mana84 as well. Regardless I made it clear that if I post something and someone else can do a better job they can take over. Its just one of the games that was so bad no one had any idea what was underneath. I cleaned it up to that point and learned a lesson. I may try it again someday but some games are just not worth it.
