Wow, this is finally a real 3D trailer. /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />
But it seems that the wide range landscape shots don't have very much depth. I had the same feeling in the 3D cinema too - maybe the bad resolution/compression of this Youtube-clip makes it worse.
Does anybody know if the trailer is still presented on AnixeHD ? Tonight I will record the 3D-cinema-program on AnixeHD - maybe I have luck and see this trailer in a better quality.

I have a suspicion that this is a 2d-3d conversion. When everything looks like layered cardboard cut outs I'd say that it's a clear indication of conversion. Also the fact that the jungle scenes are near completely flat leads me to the same conclusion.
It doesn't have great depth like when I saw it in the movies, more like popup book type of 3d. Meh; I did expect more.
3D films for the cinema will always look like this in the home. You have to expect that from every 3D film that will be released. The bigger the screen, the bigger the depth. Because filmmakers don't want to cause headaches they use a very little seperation. They have to stay in the so-called "comfort area". I made a chart that will explain why:
OK, it looks a bit flat in the home but I have a beamer so it doesn't look as flat as on a computer monitor. Besides I like a real stereoscopic movie with low seperation 1000000000000000^100000000000000 times better than a live-conversion one with big seperation. They all look like total crap and nowhere near realistic.
And with low seperation you don't get dizzy that easy. It's not that stressful to watch over a long time.

It's definitely not! Trust me, I produced a 3D motion picture myself over 8 months. I know what real 3D and fake 3D is. Flat objects have mainly two factors:
1. low seperation which I already explained above. The low seperation especially in the jungle is due to the action going on. Fast motions need a low seperation, so you don't get a headache.
2. high focal length. Espacially scenes with more depth of field will have those. It's up to the 3D cinematographer to decide if he wants to have more "3D roundness" or more depth of field.

Idk. The monsters vs. aliens, and how to train your dragon trailers looked very similar to what I remember from the theaters, where as the Avatar trailer looks dramatically different from what I saw in the theaters. Also I am watching these on a 67" dlp from about 6ft back, so the movie-like size is there.
They just need to hurry up and release Avatar in 3d dang it!

In my opinion you are too close to the screen
Take a step back or two.
I remember clearly that at the cinema, Avatar used significantly less separation than the How to train your dragon trailer which was shown just before the movie.
The trailer looks just like what I remember from the film.... and with the exact same shiny and glass reflection artefacts in the exact same spots as I remember were in the movie.

67" is nowehere near the screen size of a cinema which is about 20 meters. The "roundness" always depends on the scene itself. I found "How to train your dragon" also to have low seperation in some shots. Like this one for example:

Yea I realize that 67" is nowhere near the actual size of a movie screen, come on now. But it is on the larger side of home screens short of a projector, and is certantly not a small computer screen. It fills my vision in a similar fashion to sitting in the back 1/3 of a movie theater. Hence "Movie-like size."
I wish I could sit back from it a bit further but my living room is just not that big.
And I didnt say anything about a possible increase in seperation with the release of Avatar 3d, that is unless the trailer is a 2d-3d conversion. I would like to have the definitive version thats all. Not a compressed, German dubbed montage of snippets. I'd like a full 3d version blu-ray of any movie for that matter.
