My Acer GD245HQ review experiences of a new 3D vision user
Seems there is a kind of upgrade on the monitor. Acer GD245HQAbid, the A seems stand for All black. Someone knows what the difference is?
The All black is the stand (as the other version has a red touch to the stand).

Orange Panel + Black Stand = UGLY!
But, the only thing I really care about is performance!
Acer, stop modifying the look, there is more important things to do!
i read from the italian forum that the LG has an overdrive halo even worst than the acer and it can't be disabled
Yeah, read the same on 3d Vision Blog...
Now im really happy that I purchased Acer instead of LG!
(AlienWare is too expensive here in Finland)

about the alienware this is what an italian customer said
"I do not recommend explicitly.
The monitor is unable to display homogeneous color across the viewing area. Colors are more saturated on top and less saturated down ... so that an orange hue becomes almost yellow when moved down.
I heard Dell for this problem and after several test and a replacement we concluded that was a fault of the monitor that inexplicably features a single lamp at the bottom! And that makes the problems mentioned.
Finally I was repaid recognizing the project flaw."
Hahah! I knew it. I found a way to improve the 2D quality, to get rid of the weird white shadows around black text on a grey background.
It's work well, but every time when I launch PC or game, brightness and contrast is set to default!?

don't disable overdrive
you can drastically reduce the "sharpness" overdrive does by messing with the color multipliers in the service menu
I've set my "cool" preset to R108 G104 B107, which is slightly lower than the normal settings, so it should decrease ghosting as well
it's not as drastic as change as the 3d vision blog suggests, i've found those settings to be too dark.
along with that cool preset values, i'm using Brightness 100 and contrast 60, and the "USER" eColor thingy (not "standard", but the one with the picture of the face)
to further reduce ghosting, you can run in 110hz 3d mode instead of 120hz 3d mode, i dont notice a difference in flickeryness

its still worse than with OD completely off, but it's much better than default color settings, did you switch your color in normal menu to the preset that you modified in service menu ?
here are some pictures of this firefox window using those settings:

Yes, and no difference for me. And I use WinXP (thinny text(Tahoma 8)) not Win7 with ClearType.

as stated before, i confirm that. If you disable the overdrive the monitor restart with default brightness/contrast settings (very bright!) and needs to enter the menu everytime to select the custom settings.
this is very annoying.

the overdrive seems to be set up differently on the left and right half of the monitor...

it's like the sharpening effect is on the left side only...

(images taken at an angle because thats where you see the sharpening effect the most)
Does anyone know what the other settings in service menu do ? Like HPD ?
i assume ACM is for automatic contrast management, but you cant change that for some reason, what is HPD ?
My monitor was manufactured in Mar 2010, if anyone has one manufactured later, or a newer revision, and DOESNT have sharpening, then it would be very nice if he could DUMP the EEPROM that's inside, so i can see if they fixed it in firmware

I have contacted ACER support about this, and this is what they told me:
2) Do a power reset with your monitor
Follow these steps to complete a 'power reset' of the monitor.
-Turn the unit off and unplug the power cord from the unit.
-Hold the power button on the unit down for 30 seconds.
-Release the power button and plug the power cord back into the unit.
-Turn the unit on.
After doing this, both sides of the screen have equal amounts of the sharpening effect.
I suppose this also helps with the issue of the increasing ghosting i've had yesterday, i could have sworn that the ghosting was higher than when i originally got the monitor.
If OD was off on the right side of the screen, this would explain it.
So if anyone has issues about the right side of screen working differently than the left side of screen, please do the power reset.

There anyone who have this monitor without a light halo appears around dark letters? Or this "trouble" is part of this monitor? ... so nothing I can do about it?! :(

so the acer is still the best choice i think.

the "sharpness" also seems to worsen if you look at the monitor from top or bottom, best to put your head in it's middle vertically.
