@ Dawei87 - Sli I have found has pretty good support in 2d. It is very hit or miss in 3D. When it works it helps a lot. It does not work with several great titles like Watch dogs. You can research your favorite games support to see if it is worth it.
The Metro series is one that does work very well in 3d and with sli in 3d, you would see improvement. That studio is one of the few that really knows how to optimise with 3d and sli.

Are you sure you didn't tweak the setting to AFR2 in any of the three possible places?
I confirm that the problem fixed "itself" for me too.
1. Had the problem.
2. Tried AFR2 but my framerate was so low that it was unplayable.
3. Reset of the profile default parameters, problem is gone.

Guys, anybody else having weird glitch when shaders quality set to NORMAL? It's like fog which is at screen depth. It appears and disappears sporadicly when moving mouse around. I've tried lowering/disabling ALL available settings, running game w/wo 3D Vision and w/wo SLI - all the same. Glitch presents at any setup and even with DirectX 10.1... Settings shaders to NORMAL gives me around 10+ more FPS (especially when driving) without any noticeable decrease in graphic quality: http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/1909-gta-v-graphics-optimization-guide
Thanks.
UPDATE: Just tried Max Payne 3 profile. Glitch is there...
EDIT: Also, I've noticed (thanks to Bo3b) that shaders gets broken ONLY when any kind of VSync is enabled in nVidia Panel. I've tried Adaptive and On (soft) on both DX11 and DX10.1. Happens in both SLI/non-SLI setups.
Hi guys, I'm also having poor performance in 3d.
Running an AMD FX-8350 with a gtx 970 I pull 20fps or less at 1080p with all settings turned down. Changing settings doesn't seem to affect the frame rate for me at all.
In 2d I run the game with all settings maxed out and get a stable 60fps. Kind of suprised at the huge hit I take in 3d considering it is well over 50% frame cut.
Just wondering if this is the sort of frame rate to expect from a single card or if the AMD cpu is limiting my performance.
Personally i have an I7 OC @ 4.2 with a 780 GTX. My FPS with 3D enabled / with EVERYTHING set to low (including density etc.) is mainly around 55+ but when looking out the window of the penthouse apartment for instance that drops to like 40-45. I can run everything on max except MSAA without 3D and have a steady 70-80 FPS though.

really seems like a bug of some sort. 3d shouldn't use much CPU at all

There is a fair amount of driver level overhead for 3D Vision Automatic, it has to patch every DirectX call to do its job.
But in this case, I'm not seeing a CPU bottleneck. If it were a CPU bottleneck, then in my 2 GPU case, I should have seen a nice bump in performance jumping from 3.8G to 4.2G. That's not a big overclock, but the point is that if it were the bottleneck, it should have opened up a large frame-rate difference.
The result from testing was almost no difference when overclocking CPU. I can't presently figure out where the bottleneck lies.

Def better performance than GTAIV in 3D Vision, but still a huge FPS loss
The only game I didn't get severe FPS cut in half type loss was
Metro Last Light
Assetto Corsa
Far Cry 3 & 4
Shadow Warrior
Ill go Occulus Rift before I do the whole SLI (9800 GTX SLI back in 2008)thing again for games.
I prefer a single GPU these days.
If I'm limited with 3D Vision performance being non SLI up to now then I guess that's it.

Yeah.. So what are you going to do ? :) Play in 3D with lowered settings and maybe low fps or just skip 3D ?

While I haven't played yesterday on my SLI setup and Surround (I will play today) on a single GPU (880M) the 3D disabled after some time and a CTD occurred soon afterwards..
Now I don't know if this was with or without the latest patch. (I assume steam automatically updated the game).
Seems like some people are having trouble with the game in 3D. It's not clear what causes the problems, yet, but figured it might make sense to give you a known good working state that you could start with.
This is my current configuration after some looking around, and it runs extremely well. No 3D glitches currently, running at 55-60 fps average. Textures are on Very High because it makes such a difference in fidelity, and I'm only running 2G cards. This is SLI setup, single GTX 690 with both sides active. I've been playing for several hours without seeing the 3D dropout, and no crashes.
These are my current settings as the ones I've found to be best in 3D specifically. The idea here is that you should try to exactly match my settings as a known good example. A good place to start.
1) Driver 350.12
2) Switch to MaxPayne3 profile. Fixes text in one eye, maybe more.
3) Resolution 1920x1080 (mine scales down to 720p projector)
4) Plants set to 'normal' to avoid glitch.
5) Latest game update, 4/17/15. Fixes mission markers.
6) Edit: Reset all NVidia Control Panel settings in "Manage 3D Settings" to default.
In your 4th Point you wrote Plants, did you mean Grass?
Unfortunately I haven't been messing with the 3D setting at all anymore since I can barely even play without - I'm getting constant crashes ranging from during Launch up to 20min and on some rare occasions in story Mode up to 2h if i end the Launcher Process right after Game has started up.
So far I've reinstalled the patch like arounrd 10 times, I've resintalled the entire Game 2 times (inst. 3 times) - yes downloaded the full 60Gb 3 times. Deleted everything Driver related using DDU, resintalled 350.12. Tried Single GPU, 2-way SLI plus dedicated PhysX GPU & 3-way SLI. Tested all sorts of different Setting ingame & NVCP. Spent at least 4h reading through neogaf, reddit and this Thread. I've opened up a Ticket @ Rockstar and they told me to reinstall the Patch, haven't heard back yet since i replied i had done that already... I can get in like 10min at most Online, I usually peak at around 1.5-2h in Story Mode... So Frustrating!

I myself so badly would like to play the game, but most time before I can start a mission I either get a crash or broken 3D not to mention extremely low framerates.
I have stopped playing the game myself just lurking here looking for a possible future fix.

really seems like a bug of some sort. 3d shouldn't use much CPU at all
But in this case, I'm not seeing a CPU bottleneck.

Thanks for info !
Yeah.. So what are you going to do ? :) Play in 3D with lowered settings and maybe low fps or just skip 3D ?
Thanks for this reply, after I had asked for it!
