I am currently trying to get them to run on Windows XP.. i have got as far as making them go 3D for like 2mili seconds and then they go back to flashing.. or fluttering... and i have went from 93.1 to 174.5 or whatever.. well currently trying 174.5 this time around.. but i almost had them working on 172.5 but thats when it works for 2 secs then just flutters...

so i tried it on Windows Vista.. and NO LUCK even with the new drivers installed...

If you've got the test working, that's good. You can/should use that to learn what the hotkeys do.
Memorize only some for now and learn what they do. I'm talking about 5 hotkeys for starters:

toggle stereo3d on/off
increase/decrease separation
increase/decrease convergence.

Memorize/write down the keystrokes for them and start the test. I'm not talking about the
medical test with the square. I mean the test with the spinning nvidia logo. Start it and
decrease the separation all the way and observe what happens. The image is flat on the
screen now and it looks like normal computer graphics. You can call this 2d or flat 3d.
It's not Stereo 3d (s3d) even though the glasses are shuttering correctly because each
eye sees the same image. Now increase and decrease the separation and see what happens
both with the glasses on and off. Leave it half way between max and min and start playing
with the convergence. See what that does with the glasses off. You should see that the
convergence moves an intersection point forward and back and separation does not.
Max out sep, then adjust conv so that the intersection point is clear to you. Then minimize
sep. You should see what I mean now. Play with sep. Glasses still off but you can test them
on and off as you please.

Now for some understanding:
Remember that increasing convergence means you get more and more cross-eyed.
This can be confusing because the intersection point (zero-parallax point) goes away from
you but it looks like things are getting closer. It does make sense though once you understand
it. For now know that decreasing convergence pushes things away and increasing brings them
closer. I suggest remapping the hotkeys so that Alt-o is decrease-convergence and
Alt-l (Alt-lower-case-L) is increase-convergence. That way when you use them, it's like you're
pushing the scene away from you (Alt-o) or pulling it closer and out of the screen (Alt-L).

Now for some confusion:
Increasing sep can push things away from you OR pull things closer OR both. If the point of
intersection is on screen, then increasing sep wil do both.
For the scene before of the point of intersection, those things will come out of the screen.
For the scene past the point of intersection, those things will get deeper into the distance.
Decreasing sep lessens the effect all the way down to 2d.

Here's what you do for starters:
1.) start game, turn on s3d with hotkey if needed.
2.) take off glasses, increase sep to max (could be much less once you get better at this) .
3.) change convergence until your character (or gun if FPS) is at zero-paralax (not-blurry).
This could wind up being only the person's back, middle of your gun, or rear tires if car.
4.) decrease sep to 2d, put on glasses and increase/decrease sep until you like what you see
and your eyes are comfortable.

Later feel free to tweak all above.
Learn "write config" hotkey so the computer will remember these settings and you won't have
to do this every time. It seems like alot but it's worth it.

Now please explain what you mean when you say "no 3d". Do you mean the glasses don't shutter?
That would be another issue. It's possible the game just won't work with that setup. Try another
game and tell us which games you've tried.

Note that some games have issues regarding the on-screen info (HUD, OSD) and the targeting
reticle can be a problem too. Some games need FSAA (fullscreen anti-aliasing) off and water
reflections off to look better. Other games need alt-tabbing to windows and back to get them
working. It's too bad things aren't better. It's still great though when it works.

I'll await your response before I add more.

Good luck.

Hi again,

Sorry about such a long post that I think now probably didn't help you.
Now I think that the problem you have is not solvable for that game you're
trying. Unfortunately, some games just don't have good s3d for various
reasons.

Example: Prince of Persia (newest version)
When you switch to s3d, glasses flicker and screen goes double but each eye
gets the same view and changing convergence doesn't help. This means that
you still have a flat 3d view of the game but you can move that flat view in or
out of the screen and you might as well play w/o the glasses. I cannot play
this game in s3d no matter what driver combo I try or what settings I change.
It's just the way the game was programmed and the way the nvidia drivers and
hardware were made. That's just the way it is and the answer is to try a different
game.

This is with a geforce 7800 GTX on Windows XP. Driver 162.50.

Tombraider Underworld is also bad for my setup for a different reason. Convergence
works to create a good s3d image but each eye sees a silouette of lara where she is
for the other eye. So each eye sees two laras: one normal and one silouette. You can
converge them together but it looks bad. Other effects are bad too.

So what does work? Try your older games and shut off all fancy rendering options...
water reflections, shadows, etc. I can get Tombraider Legend and Anniversary
looking great except for the on-screen data (OSD) like the health bar. The OSD
is another issue. Basically you can fix it if you turn off HW TnL, but then the game
probably won't start w/o HW TnL on so you're stuck with a bad OSD. Many very
old games don't have this problem because they can run w/o HW TnL. This is another
reason why the golden age of s3d gaming is over. Sorry.

Someday I hope to post a good list of games that work and don't work for my setup
so people can find it and get some help and good advice for running these things.
That won't be ready anytime soon though.

You can find other lists here and elsewhere but I like to try things myself because
the lists I've seen don't give me enough detail.

Which game where you trying by the way? Did you shut off all fancy rendering?

later.
