With a DLP it's more important then with an LCD or Plasma because you will notice more distortion the closer you sit. Also eye level is important because if you sit at an off angle colors will appear to be darker then they should. I would say 6 feet at the closest but more would be best.

Man that was fast. I read on a samsung site you could damage your eyes if you are too close. I sit probably exactly 6 feet away. I am going to go blind either way.
Thanks /wave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

if you scratch your retina on the screen..................your too close, other than that i heard it was a myth about sitting to close. I personaly think it makes the screen look bigger /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

i sit about 6-7ft from mine too, at least while playing a FPS in 3D, which is most the time. havent noticed anything wrong with my vision yet. I think the distance you sit from the TV/monitor thing was a bigger issue back in the ol' CRT days. The tint of the 3D glasses makes the screen not seem too bright at this distance also. When i'm watching a movie or playing something on a controller, i sit back about 9-10 ft. Sitting closer does make it feel like youre in a theater tho. for some movies that are wider aspect than tv i sit closer tho because it is basically like having a smaller screen.

I have 73" DLP and my viewing distance is 12' out.
For movies BR materials, 12ft is great.
When gaming with 3d, it's a different story.
I feel like I want get at least 2 ft closer to the screen so I can shoot with more accuracy. LOL

I feel like I am always leaning in to get closer when i have the 3d glasses on. In all honesty its preference for the set/distance. Secondly it really matters also on brightness and eye strain... if you are in a dark room staring at a tv set... really close... it probably is doing damage.
Just keep comfort, eye strain and clarity in mind :)

I have a 61" DLP. I just read you have to sit 3 times that distence away. I sit about 1.5 tops. Is eye level that important as well?
