Last time I didn't heed that kind of negative review was between Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4 and I immediately regretted picking up 4 even on sale as it felt exactly like 3.

Im playing the trial and I'm liking it a lot. It is like the first one for sure. I'm doing well in it, because I played the original so much and this one came in naturally. As a matter of fact, I disable all of the prompts in the screens and tips since they are all basically the same from the previous game, and it also helps with 3D. I guess is a matter of preference, for me is more of the same but bigger and better. If you loved the first one and are carving for more of it, then this game is a good fit for you. If you didn't like the first one very much and are looking for something different; you are going to regret it just like you did with Farcry4. Either way, the game looks beautiful in full 3D thanks to DHR's fix. Go ahead and download the trial and see for yourself.

The Story is quite good. I liked it a lot even if the debut is not as interesting as the middle, I love the "Australian" Orc, very good acting. The end is a bit long to achieve, fighting castles until you get the final cinematic and the credits. After that you have to do the DLC to continue the story.

xXxStarManxXx, I think you will like the game, and at 49 eur all DLC included it's a great bargain. If I could afford it, I would pay 50 eur for the game and 50 eur for DHR's fix, and I would still consider it a great bargain. What other AAA games can you play nowadays in 3D? You mentioned Far Cry 4 being similar to Far Cry 3. It's unavoidable, but these games were so fun in 3D. Innovation and inventiveness is very rare for big studios, because it can introduce risk. But for better or worse the Nemesis System in Middle Earth, and the stealth/skill systems of the Far Cry games (like occupying a fortress/camp) are quite innovative and very fun. (Imagine if instead of the shallow skirmishes/AI fights in SW Battlefront 2 we would have mini-missions to occupy enemy camps, with silent blasters set to stun, stealth mechanics, etc, and rank up based on performance. Instead we jump around like idiots, shooting at everything, never able to take in the awesome environments. And we should consider ourselves lucky anyway, cause the AI fights might not have been available at all. The whole game could just have been only one game mode - battle royale) Of course, all these decisions and perceptions are very personal. I was just expressing my point of view. We are just so very lucky that people like DSS and DHR have offered us these fixes. I would never consciously refuse myself one of these games, that's how rare they are... I owe so much of my daily happiness to these incredible fixers. I've been playing only in 3D since 2011. It just hit me as I was typing it. SINCE 2011, GAMING ONLY IN 3D. SEVEN FREAKING YEARS, NEVER SETTLING FOR LESS, NEVER GIVING IN TO THE CONFEDERACY OF CYCLOPS! Thank you guys sooooo much!

Strange, it worked for me with no issues a few weeks ago. Played through the story fully, on Win 10 1709. I uninstalled the game so I cannot check now. At that time the driver was 387.95. If you explained what the problem is and what steps you took, someone here might be able to assist.

DHR's fix for the game is superb, and the game's 3D performance is very good. With the mini-map disabled, how does anyone know when might or wrath gauges are full (associated with some useful game powers)? We cannot simply enable the mini-map functions, since some of the mini-map gauges are not readable in 3D (map OK at screen depth, but gauges are at some other depth - not fixed). Arrow targeting/aiming is not at depth, as well, making bow use challenging.

For the bow there is a Key for the depth (cycle). As Standard i think it was the P Key. Aiming works very good.

The fix is indeed superb! Minimap is annoying, because the depth of the map circle is the different than the depth of the elements shown in the map such as enemy arrows, roads, etc. I turned it off after a while, but yeah, it's difficult to see the gauges, arrow count, health. Might can be tracked by looking at your glowing sword. Wrath, I don't know, never use it because I can't tell where it fills up. Also, the bow aiming reticle has two components. A bigger circle, and a small dot in the middle of the circle. Only the depth of the small dot is changing when using P key. The circle stays at a fixed depth. But I think the game is perfectly playable as it is, especially because the performance is good. It has DRS so even with 4K TV it's perfectly fluid at constant 60 fps. And anyway, I would have never played it in 2D, at all. But it's indeed so silly that these UI elements are so hard to correct. So few games have them at normal depth ... And still too many games have such heavy/charged HUDs, made for TV/console use. At least some games nowadays have "picture mode" to at least get rid of the UI for screenshots. But it's still mostly impossible to play without the UI. DHR, when you are tackling fixing the HUDs in games, what is the main challenge? Is it due to the fact that HUD shaders are shared by other textures/objects, so you cannot isolate them? I'm just wondering if it's not possible to have some sort of option to keep all the HUD elements at fixed depth, even if it's the screen depth. But I guess it's very different, on a game-by-game basis.

Normally when i fix HUD, i try to make confortable to the eyes...but like you say, some HUD elements share the same textures, so fixing in one spot broke another things, you have to look for the best balance...fixing HUD is easy, but is complex to always fix all at perfection. Leaving at screen depth is not confortable to the eyes, except the mini-Maps or stuff like that. In this game i put a comment to disable Min-Map...and you really don't need that, you have a full map to use and target icons to follow. In this game if you look the ini, you will see 400+ lines only to fix the HUD using separation textures and others techniques...and 250 lines of ShaderRegex to fix almost all Shadows, Lights, reflections, Halos and Models in an open world game.

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback. The glowing sword works well to know when might is ready. Wrath also has a separate prompt to let the player know when wrath is full - so, the mini-map is not essential (DHR - you may want to add a comment about might and wrath, in your suggestion to disable the mini-map).

So the big fix is in where they removed the ending grind and the loot boxes. Also, they've added a free demo so you can try the game out if you like. Just click the 'download demo' button on the Steam store page.
