Batman + DX11 + 3Dvision = frame rate stuttering Is there a way to improve performance without disab
I've played Batman AC yesterday for the 1st time in 3D Checkerboard mode using my Samsung C8000 Plasma TV and the game looks amazing in 3D + DX11, despite a few ghosting issues, but I had convergence set too high and after some tweaking it got better. Anyway It's hard to avoid ghosting issues when playing in 3D using a TV, but Batman looked awesome anyway I played it in 1080p60hz 3D in a 63" 3DTV and the colours were much brighter and 3D depth is as deep as it gets compared to my 23" display.
Well, like everyone already knows the game has serious issues in DX11, but I like the eye candy and don't want to turn off DX11 features and switch to DX9. Is there a workaround for this issue, as the game stutters a lot, goes from 40 to 5fps sometimes?
When in outdoor places the frame rate is really bad, but indoor places it gets a lot better, but even then I experience microstuttering and frame rate drops.
There's a lot of AA options in Batman menu options, like FX high, FX medium, 2XMSAA, 4XMAAA and Nvidia AA, what's the difference between FX and MSAA??? I had all my graphics settings maximized, DX11 on and Physix set to high as I have a SLI system, but the AA was set to FX High, I'm not sure if this option is superior or inferior to 2XMSAA???? I'll try 2XMSAA to see if the game gets smoother as it didn't using AA FX(high).
If anyone knows any workaround to improve the DX11 performance, I really would like to know that? I'm not interested in DX9 features anymore. I'll even consider turning off AA to see if I get smoother frame rate and avoid the stuttering as AA doesn't really add much in quality for 3D gaming besides frame rate drops, I know it does for 2D.
Considering that Batman is very playable at 30fps, I will play this game in Frame Sequential 1080p60hz = 30fps per eye, using my Samsung 63" 3D Plasma TV, since it's full resolution per eye instead of half like Checkerboard. CB is faster cause I get 60fps instead of 30, but the game in DX11 is getting an average of 30fps, so I'll go for the higher quality. Maybe after a patch is released that fixes the DX11 issues, I may try playing in CB again, so I can finally play this game in 40-60fps without my FPS going down to 10-15 like it's been happening while walking through Arkham City.
I forgot to mention that I'm using Rollermod to fool Nvidia drivers into thinking I have a Samsung 2008 CB 3D TV instead of HDMI 1.4 3D Ready TV, therefore I can play 3D using my Samsung 2010 Plasma TV with 3Dvision (FS or CB) instead of nasty 3DTV Play and it's lame 1080p24hz or ugly 720p60hz.

Well, you sound like you already know about the issues this game has in DX11. I'm assuming then, that you know that the developer has acknowledged these issues and I'm sure will be releasing a patch shortly? If you haven't then check out this link. If you're just looking for a temporary workaround, I found that I could get MARGINALLY playable framerates by completely disabling PhysX, but after playing the game without PhysX and without DX11, I found that DX11 adds very little to the game compared to PhysX. Honestly, I don't think DX11 is worth the punishment, I have a hard time seeing the difference with DX11 on and off.

FXAA - High is greater than 2xMSAA
FXAA is Post processing AA applied on the game unlike conventional AA(MSAA,SuperSampling).
Using FXAA doesn't hit performance as much as MSAA does.
But, higher MSAA is really good compared with FXAA.
FXAA is targetted at medium card audience.
And the best part is FXAA can be used when using 3DVision unlike MSAA due to memory issues.

Hmmm... not sure about this. As I posted just a second ago in the Arkham City sticky thread, I noticed a better quality image with 2XMSAA than with FXAA. And yes, I'm running in stereo 3D and have no issues with MSAA. Getting 50 fps with 2XMSAA and could get around 53 fps with FXAA - the quality improvement with MSAA was worth more to me than 3 fps greater performance.

50fps?? Are you disabling DX11 or Physix???? I would never disable Physix in this game, no way. Physix adds a lot to this game, Batman is all about Physix...
Dx11 does add a lot to this game, not as much as Physix, but it does cause I can really tell the tesselation implementation in a lot of scenes, buildings, bricks, streets, it's all about tesselation, just like Crysis 2 and BF3. Metro 2033 has fake tesselation and almost no Physix for such a demanding title, you can't really tell a difference, but Batman AC, Crysis 2 and BF3 is pure DX11 + tesselation.
Can someone tell me if 2XMSAA gives me better peformance compared to FXAA(high)???? Someone here already said that 2XMSAA looks better than FXAA(high), but what about performance, as I don't consider turning off Physix or setting it to medium, or turning off DX11?. I want the best quality possible as I play in a 63" Plasma TV 1080p 3D.
I may disable AA if it improves my performance, cause AA doesn't really matter much for 3Dvision. But I would be happy with just 2XMSAA.

I can answer all of those questions.
1)YES, I am disabling DX11. I would rather have smooth, fast fps than marginally better graphics. I don't see enough difference to justify the horrible performance, but as soon as they patch the DX11 support, you bet I'll enable it!
2) No, I am not disabling PhysX. I have it set to high. There's no way I would play the game without PhysX. The end game is just mind blowing awesome with PhysX on!
3) 2XMSAA does not give better performance than FXAA. Just the opposite. As I mentioned, I'm getting 50 FPS (these are averages mind you, but very consistent) with 2XMSAA, and 53 FPS with FXAA. FXAA is not taxing on hardware at all it seems, but in terms of quality, is noticably inferior.
And yes, I'm very jealous that you are playing on a 63" screen! I'm waiting to buy a 3DTV until they come down in price and the technology is a little more user friendly. Right now there's too many questions of compatibility and too much headache with workarounds for me to spend that kind of money.

I've played Batman yesterday for a few hours and I'm astonished with this game. It's graphics are really something, the scenario, characters everything was really well done, feels like I'm playing a movie.
It's the 1st game I'm really playing using my 63" Plasma TV and it's awesome to play this amazing game in 3D in such a big screen, it's really crazy. As I kept playing yesterday I coudn't believe me eyes, I wish I had some friends of mine with me at that time, so they could really see the difference between a high end PC and their outdated PS3. I'm sure they would feel like throwing their consoles into the toilet, LOL.
I'm still using DX11 and getting stuttering FPS sometimes, but it's playable most of the time. I decided to use Frame Sequential 1080p60hz = 30fps per eye cause it has better quality than CB 1080p60hz and as the game has issues with DX11, I think 30fps is OK for the game. If they fix the DX11 issues with a future patch, I may consider playing in checkerboard mode so I can get 40-60fps. Right now considering the low fps I'm getting, I think 30fps average is OK, since FS mode gives me a max of 30fps cause any 3DTV out there works in 60hz, not 120hz like most 3D displays. It's the image processor that works in 600hz, but that's a different thing.
The only problem is that cause of the DX11 issues, sometimes the FPS drops to 10 or 5, but only for a few seconds, but when it stays 30fps, than I find Batman very playable, it's not like BF3 that feels slow at 30, and you need to be above 40fps to feel smoother gameplay. Batman is OK at 30fps, very playable.
I like being able to play games like Batman using my TV cause I can use FS mode, and a lot of games are playable at 30fps. Now, If I was using lame 3DTV Play, I could only get 24fps for 1080p, and 24fps is definatelly very slow for any game, but 30fps is a lot better compared to 24fps, a lot smoother, It's a huge difference, believe me.
Frame Sequential and Frame Packing are both full resolution per eye, but you get 60hz + 30fps per eye with FS comparing to FP where you only get 24hz + 24fps per eye, big deal of a difference in gameplay.
Now if I choose CB mode I can 60hz and 60fps, but it's only half resolution per eye, but it's not really a big deal of difference in terms of graphics quality. But as I found Batman very playable at 30fps, I'll go for the best 3D mode that gives me the bes

Oh mine, this is awesome news!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for that, I guess the official patch should be released in a few days.
My question now is, where can I find this leaked patch and will I be able to install it in a Steam version of Batman AC???? Usually Steam automatically updates it's games, I'm not sure If I could manually install a patch, just wondering???
Andrew, chill out man, most folks here are aware of the DX11 issue and that the developers are trying to fix that with patch. We're just discussing workarounds, no one is blaming Nvidia.
