Playability of Games in 3D Surround
Please see my sig rig below. I have two 470s (SLI) OCed to 750mhz core / 1800mhz memory on one 120Hz Asus monitor. I was wondering (and I think I know the answer) if this is enough horsepower to add two more Asus 120Hz monitors and play games such as Crysis 2 (with high res /tessalation package) in 3d surround (5760x1080 resolution)?

I'm guessing the answer is probably "NO." Also, if I add another 470 (3-way SLI), I don't think (but I'm not sure) I'll be able to play games in 3D surround because the resolution is too high and my VRAM is limited to 1.25GB. Anyway, this is the option I was thinking of pursuing. Add another 470 (3-way SLI) and see if games are playable with 3 monitors in 3d @ 5760x1080?

Currently 3 way SLI doesn't help performance over 2 way performance in 3D Surround.

Thanks for replying. If 3-way SLI will not help; will SLI 470s be able to handle three ASUS 120hz monitors in 2d surround (playable frame rates @ 5760x1080)?
Thanks.

Hi!

2xGTX470 Should handle most games in Surround 3D very well. I am owning a GTX590 on which I use 3D Vision Surround and played Crysis 2 and other more demanding games. If the SLI profile is working and the game is optimized, in 3D you will have around 35-60 FPS. (Metro2033 is the only one that can't be played normal on 3D Vision Surround on highest resolution).

Forgot to mention: I have 3x Samsung 2233rz monitors (3x1680x1050 res)
Hope this helps you:)

Thanks for the quick response. Although I believe you, my concern is the limited amount of VRAM of the 470 (1.25GB). Won't this amount of VRAM hamper resolutions at 5760x1080? Again, I don't doubt you but spending an additional $700+ on two more ASUS 120hz monitors and not be able to use them for 3d gaming will make me a bit unhappy.

Because of my concern with the 470's VRAM, I am considering buying two 60hz 1080p monitors instead (much cheaper....around $350).

I am on 3-Way Sli and play using 3D Surround. I been doing some serious tests after whole this rubish about performance and i can tell you that 3-Way sli kicks a lot into game performance - specially in case of 3D Surround. Easy seen in Witcher 2, Just Cause 2, Metro 2033, Crysis 2 - frame rate increase is about the same as with 2D games, that means you really "feel" that game runs smoother and you can test it buy calculating frame rate.

That's great. I guess I will update and buy another 470. OC it to 480 stock speeds...3-way SLI. My only problem is my current 470s have Koolance full cover waterblocks. I've looked everywhere and can't find a Koolance NX470 block for sale!! Once i find that block, I'll buy the Asus 120hz monitors, another 470 and take it from there. @ SKAUT, if you're getting smooth framerates @ that resolution, then I'm sure I can with 3 470s OCed to 800mhz/1800mhz.

3-Way 470 overclocked to 800mhz can easy run every game which i mentioned on frame rate betweene 40-60 - if you will stay with 1920x1080 resolution. Later you can check yourself how much extra power you getting out of third gpu - just switch one gpu to Dedicate Physx Card and this way other two will be set in 2-way sli. This way you don`t have to mess with your gpus on motherboard.
Also consider selling this one and going for three 480. They are similar priced and offer a lot more - you`ll be set even through next gpu`s generation.

I`ve just noticed that you are on two 470 alread. Yee that will be better way to go - you are good enough with them. I am on standard 480 and three times more resolution and never get fps below 35 in Stereo 3D.
