Hello,
I'm running an NVidia 3d surround with 3x Acer HN274H on 2 x GTX 580's. I have an additional monitor connected to a GTX 430 to use as a accessory monitor. My CPU is an intel 3930K and my MB is a MSI x79A-GD65(8D) with 16 GB RAM, and currently using Windows 8 pro (64 bit). My problem is whenever I run 3D applications, the majority of the time, the screen's built in emitter does not come on - and this includes during the set up process (this is the case for all driver revisions that I've tested for windows 8, which are from 306.97 forward). Note that it appears as if the rendering of 3D is working (double image, etc), its just the emitter not turning on. Also note I had this issue with windows 7 pro (64 bit) but it did not occur as often, and alt-tabbing out and back in would fix it, but that currently isn't the case.
After doing some more testing, I discovered that if I disabled the accessory display, the emitter would always appear to turn on. After trying several test cases on the placement of the accessory display with relations to the surround display, to my dismay, everything still worked fine, and the built in emitter for the surround display would turn on properly when 3D mode was engaged. Ok, I thought, maybe it was a setup up bug, so I dragged my icons, and applications to my accessory monitor and started a 3D app - and the emitter wouldn't turn on again. I did some further testing, and the issue is, in a nutshell, when the accessory monitor is enabled, some applications when displaying on the accessory display will cause the emitter on the surround displays to not be enabled during 3D. The applications that I've tested are:
windows 8 task manager (blocks emitter from working properly)
8GadgetPack (blocks emitter from working properly)
Notepad++ (does not appear to block emitter)
IE10 (does not appear to block emitter)
nVidia, please look into fixing this driver bug. (Bug currently exists in the new beta drivers, 310.61 too).

I'd suggest that you post in Official NVIDIA R310.61 BETA Display Driver Feedback Thread (Released 11/20/12)
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/524066/geforce-drivers/official-nvidia-r310-61-beta-display-driver-feedback-thread-released-11-20-12-/
It's monitored by Manuel G and other Nvidia employees.
Not much of a chance for it to be seen in this user to user sub forum.
I had this problem as well. My workaround was to open one of the sample 3D pics with the 3D Picture viewer which would activate the emitter. I would leave it on in the background and play my game. When I was done playing I would just close the picture viewer.
For some reason my problem was with 3D games only and didn't affect 3D web apps or pictures.
