I know that the realtime 2D to 3D conversion by the 3DTVs sucks which I think is primarily due to lack of Processing power. So I wonder why a 2D to 3D conversion software is not made for PCs which can use the 4GHz CPUs and the GTX 400/500 Videocards to get acceptable 3D. The PowerDVD Conversion doesn't really seem to make the PCs break a sweat. If it is still not good enough maybe we can have converters instead of realtime conversion.

You can have a whole render farm, it will still look like crap. At least in the immediate future, although theoretically there could be an algorithm to do it (very doubtful it could run in real-time). Manual conversion is an option, at least technically, used in recent movies like Priest. However there is no available software for end-users to do this. All the stuff right now is proprietary.

Power DVD has a 2d to 3d conversion option for movies, and it sucks something awful, seriously, try it, its so bad lol, makes your movies look like ass. Theres no easy way for a computer to tell which objects are supposed to be at which depths, unless in the case of gaming, the 3d models and depth data are already there, so 2d to 3d is pretty much a no go. Sure, its possible, but seriously not worth the effort, many years, and manpower it would require to calculate such things imo.
