For some reason, I can't get the Nvidia to recognize the projector as generic CRT in the Nvidia Contol Panel. When trying to enable 3D in the Nvidia, I only get the "3D TV Play" and the "HDMI checkerboard" options to select from, neither works.
Please have a look at the video I created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ON6Yi5Dw178 and start by scratch with the default EDID of your projector (just reset it with CMU) On 1:07 of the video I show how to delete the HDMI support block. This block is responsible for detecting a display as a 3DTV Play / Checkerboard device. By simply deleting and recreating the block the necessary info for 3DTV Play is gone and the 3D Vision driver recognizes the display typically as a 3D Vision Discover device now. Please do that step as shown in the video. Then for adding Generic CRT we simply have to rename the display name to "OTM0076". Keep in mind that the 3D Vision emitter has to be plugged in to make that work. If you prefer 3D Vision instead rename it to "ACI27B1". I don't have the same projector but I would recommend to use Generic CRT as you won't get issues with the red warning overlay ("Attempt to run blablabla"...). But of course you can disable that overlay in 3D Fix Manager. Just renaming the display name only in CRU doesn't have any effect as long as the HDMI support block contains the info for 3DTV Play. My best guess why it worked so simply for TanookiPhoenix is that his projector was detected as a Generic CRT device by default. Then of course you can easily make it detect as a 3D Vision device by just changing the display name. Another possibility is that it's due to some differences between HD27HDR and HD29H where the first one doesn't have the 3DTV play info set in the support block while the latter has. Or another reason: you just used the wrong HDMI port of your projector. You have to use HDMI port 2.0 and not the HDMI 1.4a one. Each HDMI port has a different pre-configured EDID. For example my projector (Optoma UHD 40) is recognized as a Generic CRT by default because the EDIDs of both HDMI ports don't contain the 3DTV Play info in the HDMI support block. Of course Generic CRT is only listed while the IR emitter is plugged in (we love Nvidia for that decision ^^). Btw for restarting my display driver I always used restart.exe and not restart64.exe. Seems to work also fine although using a 64 bit OS.
Am I missing something? I haven't tried point 7 from the UHD40/50 thread: 7. Optional: In the window "Display Properties" change the name from "Optoma UHD" to "Optoma 3D". This allows for better distinguishing between the two HDMI ports of the projector (otherwise both have the same name) Again, no time at the moment, but I can try that tomorrow.
This step is very optional and does not affect whether 3D Vision / Generic CRT or 3DTV Play is recognized. It's just for the case if you connect your projector with 2 HDMI cables to your PC (if you have 2 HDMI ports on your graphics card at all). Then you will typically see the projector twice in Nvidia Control Panel and you wouldn't be able to distinguish between the two HDMI ports without a custom name. Concerning cables the ones I recommend are good for 1080p@120hz. If just using 1080p@120hz you are definitely on the safe side because the bandwith requirements are not half as high as 4k@60hz HDR which also works fine with those cables. If it still does not work try installing the EDID of Optoma UHD 40 via Device Manager (not using CRU).

Hi HD29H_1080ti, you would need to disable "driver check signatures" for windows before you can update and install edids. Not sure how the procedure is for w10. Just google it. After youve done this... >Right click "Generic PnP monitor" in device manager >Update driver software >Browse My Computer for software >Let me pick >Have disk >Browse >Select the right .inf file for this projector >Open >OK >Close It should now display your edid under monitors in device manager and also in nVidia Control Panel.
[...]
Man, thanks so much for taking the time to help me out even to make an instructional video! :D
On 1:07 of the video I show how to delete the HDMI support block. After that, I did get the CRT option in the Nvidia Control panel, and the Stereo test did show 3D successfully! I still get the red message about incompatibility, but I should be able to get rid of that as I don't suspect that will be any different from what TanookiPhoenix described in his initial post. Also, I tried to see if the 3D still worked in games and -very important- 3D photos as I have a Fuji 3D camera. One game stayed 2D whereas I can get it to play in 3D on my 3D monitor, so I'll have a look at that to see if I can get that going. I was however thrilled to see that the other game I tested as well as my 3D photos were rendered successfully in full 3D glory (besides the red message)! This is a major victory (so far), so thanks to all of you (eitan8385, rustyk21, jhgator1777, Pauldusler and KoelerMeester) for taking the time to help me out. I must admit I was losing hope and was anticipating having to send the projector back for a refund. You guys are the best, thanks a lot.

The Video was done a few months ago however. Thought generic crt would never Show the Red Warning message but seems like you proofed me wrong. In that case simply disable the overlay with 3dfm (there should be a toggle in nvidia 3d settings Tab).
