Testing your monitor before buying 3D Vision Does the wizard deactivate the 3D functionality?
Hi folks,

I'm about to buy the Geforce 3D Vision Kit but because I've read that there are a couple of problems out there with CRT's, I would like to test my monitor before I buy the whole kit.

But no matter what version of the 3D Vision driver test, it say's "3D ready display not found". While running the wizard it sets the resolution to 2304x1440x80Hz (Sony GDM-FW900). I know the monitor is able to show 1280x800 with 140Hz, so it's definitely enough for flickerfree playing.

So here's my question:
Does the wizard "deactivate" the 3d functionality at all? So that I can't activate the glasses if the wizard says "3d ready display not found" or can I simply activate the glasses and the stereoscopic effects and play my games like I want?

I don't want to pay 125 € (Germany) for glasses that couldn't be activated...

Maybe the wizard doesn't show me anything because I don't even have the glasses connected to the computer?

I hope you can help me...

MCX

PS: I've tested driver version 186.XX, 190.XX and 191.XX (official WHQL releases, no BETA)

Without the IR transmitter from the shutter glasses package connected you can only enable the 3D Vision Discover mode (for anaglyph glasses). With the glasses connected you should be able to choose CRT as display type and be able to use the stereoscopic 3D mode with your display. Only the latest beta drivers seem to have some issues with CRT displays not being detected as compatible as some people here already complained, but in your case this is not the problem.

The latest WHQL is also a no go for CRT, read this forum about problems particularly regarding 1.17 and 1.16 driver and CRT and recent game reviews at MTBS for performance of Nvidia verses iZ3D and Tridef drivers. Virtually any other shutter glasses with Tridef or iZ3D software will be better than Nvidia's offering and look to have a much better future.

Ok, but which shutter glasses do you mean? I still have the ELSA Revelator onces but they are not working with any system other than XP.

@Bloody:

Thanks man :D so I'm going to buy them now ;)

i like IZ3D monitors, but the rest of all those shutter glasses are expensive and i doubt they have better support than Nvidia ones, and personally i'm not interested in a DLP tv. About the future of Nvidia i think it's soon to talk about...

It should work, just make sure you don't upgrade to 1.16 or 1.17 drivers. I am still using 1.13 so I can use my CRT.
