I just got 3d vision. I installed mirrors edge and gears of war. 3d is awesome but in gears of war, the aiming is incorrect. The Octagon shaped aim do not let me hit in the correct place. I look from left or right eye, but the result is bullets hitting on the left or right side of the octagon shaped aim.
If I look at the target from both eyes, I see two octagon shaped aims and the bullets hit in between them.
How to make the aim accurate: that is, bullets hitting where the aim is.

I really need some help. I installed Dead Space and the aiming has no problem but Gears of Wars is giving me inaccurate aiming. The result is that I cannot hit the enemies and there is a massive headache.

I don't have the game myself, but it sounds like the crosshair is being drawn at screen depth. If possible you need to disable the in-game crosshair and enable the nVidia 3D lasersight instead (CTRL+F12). Be warned, though, the lasersight is probably the buggiest feature of the 3D Vision drivers (and has been for years), sometimes it causes a crash or just doesn't appear, and even when it does work it can have a major impact on performance.

DD

The laser light doesn't help. I own the game and I agree, the cross hair is off, with or without the nVidia laser light enabled. I've noticed a lot of distored graphics in this game as well.

if you take off your glasses, are there two crosshairs or one? If one, then it is 2d (at screen depth) and there's only one way to deal with it... popout. You have to take aim at something at medium or near range and adjust convergence until both the crosshairs and the target are in focus. It doesn't have to be perfect, just usable. Then take separation down to zero and bring it up to the most you're comfortable with. This will be good for targets at that range and possibly much further depending on your settings. If you zoom in/out alot in this game, that might or might not be a problem. Some games seem to handle it OK, others not. If not then you may want to reset your convergence to a further target and/or lower separation. It's a trial and error process. In the worst case, I suggest using a speedpad with stereo hotkeys programmed in so you can quickly adjust settings as needed. Quickest/easiest is to just toggle off 3d while you're sniping. If that makes your sceen reset and it bugs you then you can instead decrease sep to low temporarily instead of toggling off 3d.
The long-term solution is to bug nvidia untill they give us
1) multiple presets that we can toggle between or
2) develop a good autoconvergence function or
3) make the auto-ranging lasersight work better or
4) let us adjust the depth of a non-auto-ranging lasersight or
5) ? anything else anybody?
This has been a problem in many games since before driver version 30.87.
PS: I call this hic-los mode: high-convergence / low-separation.

Thank You everyone for your replies: especially "DickDastardly". The lasersight worked. I can now atleast play gears of wars. I think there is some major performance drawback when using lasersight. I saw FPS drop and the game kind of stuck a bit for little moment after every X time.
But I will still use lasersight in gears of wars as it is providing accurate aiming.
Thank You all for your help. You have solved a big problem for me.
