First I'd like to say I'm amazed at how good this game looks and plays in 3D. All settings maxed out except MSAA set to Off (it isn't required and FXAA is set to very high) Afterburner is showing the FPS at past 180 FPS so I don't think it's recognising it as it should.
My question, however, is there a way of adjusting the Convergence, saving it with CTRL F7, and the game not reverting back to the in game 3D vision settings if you die or restart. The in game convergence setting isn't enough for me.

Hi Richie,

Due to the all of the dynamic convergence used in Max Payne 3, there wasn't really a good way to support convergence overrides via the hotkeys. I'm working on a way to deal better with dynamic convergence while still supporting hotkey overrides for future titles, but I haven't solved it yet so it didn't make it in.

Sorry!

Hello , First I would like to say that this is one of the best 3D games I've ever played! But I'm having an issue. When I run in 2D 1080p I constantly get over 60 fps, but when playing in 3D 720p it stutters below 60 fps . ( I'm running on a tv , which means I can't use 1080p 3D) I have Sli GTX 590. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hopefully there is something in the .ini file we can adjust, I have not had a look yet.

It is a great implementation of of 3d though, just wish I could pull convergence a bit higher and it not reset every cutscene, of which there are many.

Hi Cupel,

Stereoscopic rendering tends to double rendering costs on the GPU and actually also increases rendering costs on the CPU somewhat significantly--so it's pretty common for there to be a framerate hit (actually 50% is pretty normal) when running with stereoscopic 3D. Based on your GPU setup, it's actually unlikely that the game is bumping into any issues with the GPU. Do you have other programs running? What CPU do you have and how much system memory do you have?

Regards,

Thanks for the reply. I have 2600k CPU , and 16GB ddr3 ram. No other programs running. From the in game graphics menu , with everything maxed out (MSAA off) at the bottom it says i have Video Memory: 3443mb / 6142mb.

This game is amazing but it crashes everytime I try to pause...

Hope there is a fix. It's all over the internet that its crashing on startup, pause, 2d and/or 3d.

kind of dumb since the pc release was delayed.

Poor job rockstar and Nvidia.

Oh I understand, is there dynamic convergence per scene? What if there was some sort of script that could allow each player via the ini to alter the convergence by a percentage eg x110%, 150% etc. they're very good and consistent setting as they are but I'd like my gameplay convergence a little bit more. Good job none the less nvidia and rockstar.

If you want to increase convergence/seperation.

Go into C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Rockstar Games\Max Payne 3\GRAPHICS.XML
Change values.
<3DVisionConvergence value="20.000000"/>
<3DVisionSeparation value="100.000000"/>
To whatever you want. Alt tabbing/changing settings seems to reset them to slider maximum. This was not thoroughly tested but I can confirm it works (I am happy with amount given). If you want more try it out I guess.

Guten tag Andre,

Wie gehten Sie?

That's pretty much the limit of my German these days.

Anyways, I've been trying to repro your issue, but with little success. Do you have any third party drivers / fan controllers / utilities that relate to the GPU? How much system ram do you have?

Also, where did you get the drivers from? 301.42 is the latest driver--I'm not sure where 302.59 would've come from.

Vielen Dank!

i have 4gigs ram and i downloaded the drivers from guru3d.com ( 301.42 & 302.59 ).
And hey. Your german is ok....;-)

720p, even doubled for 3d mode, has less pixel to draw than 1080p, even in 2d. So no way it shouldn't reach 60fps+.
A sli of 590s stuggling with Max Payne 3, c'mon, that's not possible at all.

As I already pointed out, there's a severe performance problem when 3d is activated.
I dont' know where the problem is (driver or game), but I'd like the problem to be considered, as it's real.

I'm going to try some older drivers, and I'll post the results.

EDIT: NO performance problem with 296.10 drivers. 60fps+ in 3D mode.

Question, Why should we not enable MSAA? I ran it with MSAA and didnt see any issues.

People need to relax... Games been out for like a few hours.

Also, 3D Vision for Max Payne 3 should only be used with DirectX 11 mode. There may be issues with DX9 or DX10.

What kind of issues with DX9? I have a GTX285 SLI so no DX11 for me. Could someone confirm this (I'll get my copy later today)?

I already tried changing the convergence in there to 25.0000000 but it would seem that 20 is the maximum.
