I think one quite good solution could be possiblity to save many 3d settings and assing hotkey for those so one could assing same button for ironsight and 3d profile that handle better that situtation. Hotkey should work so that when u push it other profile kicks in and at release "normal" profile returns. There could be adjustable in/out fade. This hotkey thing could be quite useful some other situations also.

Agreed, would work very well.

Just an additional note here: The problem also occurs with scopes in some games (when it is simply a 2D sight) as the 'target' appears to be either side of the cross-hair when focussing on the correct place.

Transcript of Nvidia live support conversation follows, let me know your thoughts guys:

Sanjib: Hi, my name is Sanjib. How may I help you?
Poacher64: Hi there, I'm looking a response to the question posed in this thread on Nvidia forums : http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=185945
Poacher64: ?
Sanjib: Please let me know the graphics card and the OS that you are using
Poacher64: GTX 470 and Win 7 64 bit
Sanjib: Are you using NVIDIA 3D Vision kit?
Sanjib: Please let me know the driver version that you have installed?
Poacher64: I've got a 3DTV arriving tomorrow so will be purchasing 3d vision play
Poacher64: and it's the latest Nvidia driver
Sanjib: Okay, the issue that you are experiencing is only with COD:black Ops, correct?
Sanjib: or all the games?
Poacher64: all games
Sanjib: So right now, you are using 3D Discover glasses? correct?
Poacher64: yeah
Sanjib: Have you updated the recent patches of the game?
Poacher64: yep
Poacher64: also found this thread on forums which is relevant: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=19019
Sanjib: Okay, please give me two minutes to check if there is any such known issue.
Poacher64: sure thing
Sanjib: Okay, please be informed once you installed the 3D TV play software.
Sanjib: Or NVIDIA 3D Stereoscopic drivers
Sanjib: You will get a option in the in the NVIDIA control Panel called Set up streoscopic 3D.
Sanjib: Once you click on Set up streoscopic 3D, you will get a option called, change 3D laser sight.
Poacher64: so there's no way to change the eye alignment?
Sanjib: Eye Alignment can be changed through "3D laser sight" from the NVIDIA control panel
Poacher64: so can I do that with 3d vision Discover?
Sanjib: I am sorry Poacher, for that you need to have a NVIDIA 3D Vision kit.
Poacher64: okay, but it definitely can be done with 3d tv play then?
Sanjib: http://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/889/driver_control.jpg
Sanjib: Please check the above weblink for more information
Poacher64: that doesnt have anything about eye alignment - just laser sight...
Sanjib: That is used for Crosshair target
Poacher64: yeah I'm talking about in game iron sights and changing the camera alignment like IZ 3D's drivers can do I get the laser sight option in 3d vision discover
Sanjib: I am sorry, 3D Vision discover doesnot install any drivers.
Sanjib: It is not possible with 3D Vision discover
Poacher64: okay so I can definitely change the camera alignment with 3d tv play drivers then?
Poacher64: ?
Poacher64: let me show you a screenshot of what I mean...
File attachment upload has started.
The file IZ3D separation.jpg (93.32KB) was received.

Poacher64: circled in red is the feature I am interested in.
Sanjib: Yes, can you send me a screenshot of the game, that it looked like?
Poacher64: basically what it does is it shifts the camera positions to the left or right so that you can have the centre of the image (crosshair or ingame iron sights) aligned to either your left eye, right eye or centre (which is the default setting on nvidia)
Poacher64: i can only take screenshots in anaglyph for now which will make it unclear
Poacher64: the issue is simply that the in-game 3d sights don't line up correctly because the camera is either side of the centre of the screen so it's like trying to aim with a gun held to the centre of your face
Poacher64: http://forum.yuplay.com/index.php?showtopic=513 see this thread for screenshots
Poacher64: http://www.shacknews.com/article/66552/call-of-duty-black-ops the second video down highlights the problem perfectly
Poacher64: do you see what i mean?
Poacher64: ?
Sanjib: I am sorry for the delay in replying.
Sanjib: I checked my supervisior, After installing the 3D TV play software you will be able to use this feature
Sanjib: NVIDIA 3D Vision discover glasses is not so good
Poacher64: okay, so if I go ahead and buy 3d tv play and find that it doesn't have this feature I'll get a refund, right?
Poacher64: ?
Sanjib: What i will recommend you is to download the 14 day trial version of 3D TV play software first
Poacher64: okay
Sanjib: simply download the 3DTV Play Activation Utility to enable a 14 day trial.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-activate.html
Poacher64: ok. thanks.
Sanjib: Your welcome.
Sanjib: But, remember, 3D TV play will work only with the Glasses provided by your TV manufacturer and a compatible 3D TV.

Umm... because it's relevant to both?
Thanks for reading though.

Makes perfect sense to me. No one aims a gun by holding the sights up between their eyes, right in front of their nose. I had always been a lover of games that feature iron sights, but since i started using 3D vision i have had to try to avoid them, which really sucks because both 3D and iron sights do wonders for immersion. It's tolerable, as others have said, if you set the convergence point to be the tip of your front sights when in iron sights view, but when you come out of iron sights in most games there wont be any pop-out. I'd settle for a way to have multiple convergence settings per game that would be automatically switched when the iron sights are toggled on and off, but this dominant eye fix would be way better.
The problem is also how iron sights are implemented in games. (eg: you don't move the iron sight to your head and aim straight fowrd at a 90 degree angle to you, you want some centripetal force to reduce the kick).

Basically when you bring a rifle up to aim down the iron sights or even into a scope you naturally tilt either or both your head and or the rifle. And since you tend to aim with only one eye opened you loose stereoscopic 3D anyway. The game should shift out of 3D as you enter one of those viewing modes is my opinion.

Do note I have met one or two people who claim they fire with both eyes opened.

It looks like not many people care about that and just use the lasersight.

I also would like to be able to have the ironsight aligned to one of the eyes so it can be used to aim instead of the lasersight. Everytime I have found myself with an ironsight centered between my eyes I have moved instinctively to align my right eye :) Then I think: "those silly game developers, didn't they know that some people games in stereo and need the ironsight on one eye and not the nose?" hehe
At the end I think that as S3D gaming becomes the norm game developers will take that into account, and many more things. I mean, it's more game developers responsibility than stereoscopic driver developers responsibility.

What I find amazing is how many words it can take to make others comprehend an idea completely, sometimes. Maybe most people has never look through an ironsight? A real one I mean.

We like stereoscopic games because allows us to use the eyes like in real life. And oddly, it includes sometimes to close one eye in order to aim. Talk about irony.

It is great if both work together for the best 3D possible. Some games like crysis 2, bad company 2 etc have great ironsight views imho. I would hate to have to close one eye just to look down the ironsights whilst gaming, how daft is that, this not real life, this is casual video gaming for enjoyment, fun. But each to their own i suppose.
