Difference between Red/Blue glasses and 3d monitor?
I got a 3d monitor for Christmas. Here's the problem - when I tested games before I got the monitor using red/blue glasses, the graphics popped off the screen several inches. With the new monitor and nvidia shutter glasses, the same games don't pop at all. The 3d seems to start at the screen and the depth effect is entirely back from the screen.
Is this a normal consequence of 3d technology? If so, it's quite disappointing.

Have you tried adjusting depth and convergence, but mainly convergence? You need to enable advanced control under hotkeys to get access to convergence, but I have to say I don't see a lot of pop-out with my setup either, it's mostly into the screen.

By default the system is set up with pretty low depth and convergence. Hitting people with the full depth right off the bat doesn't work so well so they start it off at around 30% and let you move up as you get used to the whole stereoscopic thing.
If you've been doing the red/blue stereoscopic stuff then you're probably used to it already. Turn the wheel on the emitter so the depth is at 100%. Then hold down the green light/button, turn the wheel again, and increase the convergence a bit. You should get some popout then. (There's a test program you can run in the control panel under 3D Setup. Select "Test Stereoscopic 3D" and click it to bring up the program. It should start popping out after 15 seconds or so.)
While popout is cool, it's not always a good thing. If there's a game interface at screen depth that's covering an object that is popping out of the screen, it looks pretty weird. The object appears closer than the interface but the interface is covering up the object so the object must be further..... The edges of the screen can do this, too.

Thats funny Zloth, ive owned the kit for 2 years now and i never knew about adjusting convergence by pressing that button and spinning thew wheel, something new everyday lol

I've messed around with the controls and it looks better, I guess I was expected the same effect I got with Red/Blue glasses but in the full color and glory of 3d Vision. It looks okay, but not worth the investment...a little disappointing.

Are you using s3d to play games or watch movies? Movies are done with set depth and convergence and should look pretty much same in red/blue and 3d vision except with nVidia tech you dont get eye strain. The main difference is with games, where 3dv truly shines, and red/blue does not even come close to the immersion offered by s3dv. Just view some of the numerous screenshots people posted throughout this forum to see the difference :)

Thanks for the responses guys. Based on your comments I'm thinking something is defective, I'll get a new monitor and see if that fixes it. If not, then I'll do the same with my 3dvision setup - hopefully I'll have better results.

(Second attempt. The forums ate my last post AND wasted more of my quota. I'm really getting sick of this forum software.)
Before mailing/driving things around, let's do some diagnostics. This is most likely just an issue with your settings, not a defect.

That screenshot should show a lot of popout. Just click on it to download it then either double click on it or start the NVIDIA photo viewer and load it. Screenshots are 'set in stone' so your depth and convergence settings won't really matter. If it does have popout (and the distant items appear distant) then your hardware is just fine, you simply need to work with your settings.
P.S. If you want to take your own screenshots, you can do so any time the S3D is active. Just hit Alt-F1 and it will pop a screenshot into the C:\Users\{user name}\Documents\NVStereoscopic3D.IMG directory. (Yet another feature that NVIDIA doesn't mention for whatever crazy reason.)

Sorry bro, I already sent it in today. I should have the new one next weekend, will try then. Thanks again for the help.

Is this a normal consequence of 3d technology? If so, it's quite disappointing.
