I am looking to get the most out of 3D gaming. I currently have a Core 2 X6800 2.93 GHz processor 4 gigs of ram and a 295 GTX. Was wondering if i would be better off upgrading my processor or picking up the new Femi's? Any advice would be much appreciated /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' />

Well with 3d vision if you game at high res like 1920x1080 or so most of the times with newer games I would say the video card is usually the bottleneck.
I am going with Fermi because it not only beats the 295 but the minimum FPS performance is just awesome kicking the crap out of every card out there.

Yes - I agree absolutely.
Right now all I'm running is an E8400 @3GHz with a single GTX 275 and I haven't found anything (yet) that I can't play at a comfortable fps using 3D Vision.

Maybe after Fermi prices come down ...

Definitely Overclock that cpu like the guys said earlier. At its curret speed it is bottlenecking your graphics card. Keep the 295 it will last you easily another year minus dx11. Hell if you have the money do a complete overhaul. /geek.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geek:' />

I am surprised at how all of you feel so secured to say the CPU is the only thing bottlenecking when none of us know at what resolution he is gaming...

Well i'd be hoping not 800x600 with that GPU for starters. Looks like he don't have a 3d monitor yet so i guess if he games at 1680x1050 as a minimum then the cpu will bottleneck his 295. I am Secure enough to say that!

You missed the point completely dude. If it was 800x600 it would be LESS gpu dependant anyway.
But you failed to realize that 22" LCD is not the only display for 3d vision, there are also projectors and DLPs. I run my games at 1920x1080 or so and at that resolution games like Metro are indeed able to put a hurt on my 295

I didnt miss the point at all buddy, i totally understood what he was asking. I know 800x600 requires hardly anything.......... that was a joke. Which is why my advice to him is... he doesn't need to do anything drastic but for extra breathing room and to make sure he's getting the most out of his gpu) which is more than adeqaute for anything besides metro2033 DX10 with x4 msaa then he should overclock his cpu because at that speed it IS bottlenecking the GPU if he plays at 1680x1050 let alone 1080p or any higher. i know this becuase i have done exactly this!!!

Thanks so much all for the advice so far, i have just begun playing games in 3D, most games play quite well. Just cause 2 is sluggish, which really hurts because it is absolutely stunning in 3D, one of if not the most impressive game i have tried yet. I am playing on the Alienware monitor at 1920 1080. I should have mentioned that before, sorry.

Well with 3d vision if you game at high res like 1920x1080 or so most of the times with newer games I would say the video card is usually the bottleneck.
I am going with Fermi because it not only beats the 295 but the minimum FPS performance is just awesome kicking the crap out of every card out there.

your gtx 295 actually beats the gtx 480 in some current games as the gtx 480 is heavily geared towards future dx11 games.

I think Qazax is a pretty cool guy. eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything.
A 295GTX is more than enough for games at the moment
Although cpu upgrade often means a motherboard upgrade so i'd actualy think the CPU option would be much more expensive.
