Infrasound
So bit offtopic but i have been reading up a bit about infrasound and tacticle transducers. Now I was wondering if there is a way to see what sound freqencies are used in horror games and if the developer are using infrasound to make it more scary. And with that what would be the best way to test it (heartrate monitor) or something? Really wondering if with tacticle transducers a horror game is more scary for the mind/body then without.

Hmmm, interesting. I've never heard of Infrasound. "Infrasound is sound below 20 Hz, lower than humans can perceive. But just because we don’t consciously hear it, that doesn’t mean we don’t respond to it; in certain individuals, low-frequency sound can induce feelings of fear or dread or even depression." https://www.strangerdimensions.com/2013/06/21/infrasound-the-fear-frequency/ I do not think that they could use it in games because the frequency is 17Hz, which is below the rating of the majority of sub-woofers. There's a youtube video claiming to output 17Hz as a test. It might damage your speakers, so be careful and try at your own risk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGqI7EKNm8Q Note: I tried it, I heard something and it made me fearful. But that is because I was afraid of my speakers going tits up :P

Nice that Iam not the only one that found the concept interesting. Tested the youtube video (though i think audio from youtube is compressed) And it feels like it is indeed like you said not the safest thing for your speakers. I saw a while ago a article about Disney and Imax using Tacticle Transducers "buttkickers". Those are basicly speakers without the cone, just a piston to create vibrations at sound freqencies. Bought the 1000 watt amp and built in 2 of them in my couch. That does the trick to go down to 5Hz. Did some testing with Audio sweep/ Sine wave`s and gaming. As reference I used Dead Space 2, because I played it several time`s completely in different parts of my setup. Great example is when your walking on the ship and there is a spaceship flying by. Never cought my attention until with the buttkickers. You "feel" it. Like your wondering if your own home come`s down. while you don`t have the problem with rumbling of doors etc. After that I came in to a room with a generator running and there where it did get a bit oncomfortabele :) The generator was generating a sound that I never noticed before (finished dead space over 3 time`s) In that room I got a kinda of a weird pressure (like in a plane/under tunnel) Standing in that room (nothing happened) made me feel bit strange. Without the Tacticle Transducers it felt less eary and the pressure seemed to gone away Gonna test some more this evening :) Think it is a great addition to 3D Sources: http://www.guitammer.com/images/PDFS/Guitammer_Theaters_Brochure-May%202011.pdf https://projekter.aau.dk/projekter/files/76669436/Kyhh_Master_Report.pdf

I use a 7.2 setup atm for gaming and have often thought about adding something like a butt kicker. There are others that like to feel the bass in games https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1064068/

There's also the Basslet https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/basslet/the-basslet-a-wearable-subwoofer-for-your-body "LoSound engine with a frequency response from 10 to 250Hz" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZJciVoBaRg

Dindt see that one before. I redoing now my gaming room. I got 3x 5.1 splitted with optical splitters / repeaters Running DTS Live , DTS connect won`t work with Buttkickers. So I decided to put in a center speaker within my couch. witch got already 2 buttkickers mounted inside them. Found out with them you should mount them properly. with the plate the effect is way less. On the topic finding out the freqencies of the audio. still working out that one seems i can`t anylyze them when using optical/DTS or something. Find out that in movie`s they are used specifically for the fear effect. But on game`s i can`t find a developer saying the same.
