One good thing about Neverwinter is, unlike most mmo's, combat is action style.
In combat, only a small number of special attacks/defends/powers are available, which means no need to stare at buttons while they cooldown. You can look at the battle, and occasionally glance at your healthbar.
Lack of special attacks is actually a weak point, since more abilities you have = more indepth and varied combat is. TERA did much better job at action combat.
3D looks kinda usual for MMOs. Means doesnt give enough to keep it on

i dont agree, yeah more abilities give more depth but real time combat is way more exciting than piano clicking numbers and thats it. What Im liking most besides the classic dnd theme is the foundry, user made levels like the old nwn game could make all the difference for me, since i like to solo and good story driven quests

Let me clarify. I think more abilities/attacks/defends/magic would be interesting, but not at the same time.
HUD should be as small as possible.
I play neverwinter in 3D but Star Trek online (STO) in 2D.
While in space combat, in STO, I usually stare at my abilities while cycling through them.
In Neverwinter, I do not look at the HUD when I use an ability. I simply just push the correct keyboard button. If an abilitiy is still not ready, there is a "not ready" sound. If I had more than 10 abilities at the same time, it would be problematic for me to select them all, while also not looking at the keyboard or HUD.
My character is a control wizard who frequently must dodge/teleport away from melee combat. My eyes are too busy in combat to do anything except watch the battle and occasionally glance at my health bar. In PvP, the action is so fast that I very rarely look at the healthbar or HUD.
My main complaint about Neverwinter is, it's easier for me to read text without 3D glasses. Maybe I should increase brightness, although I prefer dark games because it feels more immersive and a little more scary. As a comparison, in the old Thief 1/2 games, I have no problems reading text in books, while in 3D, because book/scroll text is large and full-screen.

File updated. Bars update.
I dont play mmo's anymore. I was big on them till WOW third expansion[always me and my friend were top guild and it was like this for like for 4 mmo's]. This game just feels old. Nothing wrong with outdated graphics, at the end of the day what does that matter after playing game for a month. But its just old in gameplay too. Like what incentive is there to play this game imo. Tons of mmo's did same formula. Like I playd neverwinter for a bit and all I felt was deja vu.
Tera/Aion/Secret World may of not been for everyone but they were something new. I just don't see this game lasting. Like whats the difference between it and all the other mmo's which died.
Not telling people what to play/what not. You like what you like. I just don't see this game lasting.

Yup I was a progression raider up until the end of TBC, WoW makes my brain die a little bit each time I an conned into playing it again by friends.
Secret World was/is great, but it's designed for patient ppl in a NOWNOWNOW society. The people who would actually get a lot from it all have 40yo ppl responsibilities and don't think they have time for MMOs.
While I agree Neverwinter leaves a lot to be desired, it's making PWE a shitload of cash so it'll be around for a bit. The forgotten realms setting is pretty inciting to some people. They might run into Drizzt.

Thanks eqzitara I'll give it a try.
I agree that the game does nothing incredibly new and looks good/average, still I'm liking it a lot, GW2 lack of quests was really weird to me, TSW was really hard on my rig and the setting is cool but not that appealing to me.
Basically I'm an old D&D player and I'm glad to finally get some really classic D&D MMORPG done right, many players are thinking on porting their old NWN campaigns to the game, and even this early some of the Foundry campaigns work well, and most importantly it will add enough variety to avoid senseless grinding of most other MMORPGs. For me the ultimate MMORPG will be The Elder Scrolls MMORPG if it works properly in 3d, until now I think I'm staying on Neverwinter for quite some time.

I play Neverwinter, as a single player game.
Some dungeons do require a 4-5 person party to complete, but the main story line is mostly single player. I have not yet joined a guild. Only reason I would do that is to complete the hardest dungeons. Maybe I will join a casual or role playing guild. I want to explore dungeons and do quests and be immersed, and not chat with other players. I only did PvP twice, and I hate to bash Neverwinter, but there are plenty of other games to play if you want fun, balanced PvP.
After I complete the main story line and most Foundry (fan) missions, I will take a break, and come back after more content is added. Even though Neverwinter is still in open beta, there are already, at least, a few excellent Foundry missions. The only games wbich I play on a regular basis are games with fan missions or new content. do not need new gameplay mechanics or advanced graphics. Give me an immersive atmosphere, interesting story and challenging objectives, and I'm happy.
One more thing ...
One thing I like about free-to-play games is the challenge of competing against paying players. A lot of time and effort is required to aquire the same gear as paying players. In some f2p games, it is not possible to be as geared/leveled/stats as paying players, but in Neverwinter, it's definitely possible.

Ah, I didnt hear anyone speak of story. In that respect I can understand. SWTOR had a great story. I actually played through SWTOR and was one of probably first 50 to max level.... Played for a few days afterward and realized this was the end for me. Sold it for like $250 bucks [I forget]. Its amazing that two weeks of playing a game can make you like 200 bucks.
I should probably check if people did a good of job of filming the other "jobs" stories on youtube.

I agree completely with Partol, I love to play MMORPGs mostly for the single player game. It's a bit absurd, but MMORPG worlds feel so much more alive and changing with real people, so that it adds a lot to the single player experience even if you don't interact with them a whole lot.
eqzitara I tried your new fix and now it shows the level progess and all, however I have a hard time simply clicking in the menus and selecting stuff, I even had to alt tab and close the game from windows since menus refused to work when I clicked on them.
SWTOR was great story wise but the graphics were awful. Neverwinter is average but SWTOR tried to hard to be close to WOW being too cartooney, 3d helped the game a lot but still it was hard to get into it.

I just installed driver 320.18
When I point the crosshair at another character, I only see one-half outline in each eye.
310.90 and 314.22 drivers do not have this problem.
Can anyone please confirm if there is a 3D problem with 320.18
What is the best way to report driver bugs to Nvidia?

I know we spoke about this game already... BUT... Cryptic actually did some work to make the 3D Vision work! I could hardly believe it. Now, all the nameplates, and damage numbers are perfect. They TRIED to make the shadows and crosshair work... and they do... but only if the convergence is turned WAY down. If you turn up the convergence, the shadows go haywire, and the crosshair becomes FAR too close. I'm totally fine with disabling the shadows, but the crosshair is a big issue. The Nvidia crosshair, on the other hand, looks like it would work perfectly, if only the in game crosshair was gone!
Now that they've actually done some great work with this game, I'm wondering if you all would take another look at it. maybe you can find a way to adjust the crosshair depth... and maybe even the shadows. At a minimum, disabling that crosshair would do wonders. I already tried the stuff that was put out to turn off the crosshair before cryptic fixed all this stuff, but it no longer works.
Anyone? This game really does look great in 3D now that so much is working!!!!!
