If i want 3D support with my 4K 3840x2160p setup do i have to get 3D vision?
Does nvidia ever plan to add support for this resolution or resolutions higher than 1080p 24hz because after playing Rise of the Tomb Rader in 4K with stereoscopic 3D on a 55" screen i kinda want to play all my games like that and i would really like to do so without needlessly having to spend nearly £120 on a pair of nvidia glasses.

In your dreams mate. £120 glasses or not. I can't think of a single idea why Nvidia wouldn't enable higher resolutions / refresh rates but there you have it.

Only current working solution for 3840x2160 3D is EDID mod for LG 4K passive TVs, enabling 3840x1080 pixels/eye via interleaved display. See https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/818183/3d-vision/gtx-970-4k-3d-vision-gaming-success-with-lgub850v-passive-tv-/post/4510149/#4510149. Glasses provided with TV are used for 3D, rather than special NVIDIA glasses.

This is exactly what i have already with my 55" lg 3Dtv but it is rubbish compared to the 3D you can get in games like Rise of the tomb raider and Deus Ex Mankind Divided right now.

I can think of at least two reasons why they should support this.
1. There are people out there like me that want it and can support it.
2. There are games company's that are offering support for it with the very latest games at the very highest settings right now.

You must NOT have a 4K TV, or you're using 3DTV play, which is limited to 720p60 or 1080p24 -- because it's absolutely incredible. The EDID override Whyme's referencing makes the TV function as a 4K passive monitor for Nvidia's native PC 3D driver. Tridef works too.

Here is my tv http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-55UB830V i'm not sure what EDID is but i assumed he was referring to the function on lg's that can simulate 3D with the push of one button on the remote. As for Tri Def i have tried that and it didn't work because apparently in order to use it with steam games you have to crack them and i'm not down with that.

The EDID tells the computer what kind of display it's connected to. The EDID override linked earlier makes your computer "think" it's connected to an Nvidia certified 4K passive 3D computer monitor instead of a TV. Follow the instructions in the thread to set it up, you're in for a treat!
Not sure about the issue you're having with Tridef, as it works just fine with Steam.

Absolutely not.
Do the real thing (EDID Override + install 3D Vision Eye Swapper), it's amazing.

Tridef works fine with Steam, no crack involved, it just needs to start the game through a steam URL (not directly the game executable). Here is the recommended small procedure :
-create a desktop shortcut of your game via the steam interface (right click on the game in the library / create a desktop shortcut)
-load this shortcut into Tridef instead of the game's executable and set the profile for this game (choose generic profile if none already exist)
-you can delete the desktop shortcut it is no longer needed
-you can now launch the game in the tridef interface
(Tridef will automatically restart steam and launch the game)
When you are finished playing
-> close steam manually (Tridef remains active with this game's profile as long as steam is running)

EDID will do exactly what you asking for. Quality of that 3D Vision picture on your LG 4K TV. Just go to that topic whyme466 was telling you about and use this mod with your TV and you will get that 4K 3D in superior quality.

The following link provides more information about the various steps involved, beyond using the referenced EDID file to override the Generic monitor driver (via Device Manager) - see https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/943900/3d-vision/search-information-about-edid-for-3dvision-on-lg-oled-4k-55ef950v-55ef9500-/1/.
