3DTV Play or 3D Vision?
Hello,

I recently bought a Samsung UND6400 and a Geforce 480 GTX. I had planned on using the 3DTV as both a blu-ray player and monitor.
I got interested in 3DTV Play because the display appears as supported, however I also noticed that there's a limitation for playing games.
For stereoscopic 3D, the max resolution is at 720p @ 60hz. The display can do 1080p @120hz though.
Is there any workaround around this limit, perhaps using HDMI 1.4b cable with increased bandwith? Does my hardware meet the requirements to fully upgrade into 3D Vision, or is there another 3D software that can do Full HD?

Thank You

Unfortunately your TV does not support the kind of 120Hz input required for true 1080p@60Hz 3D. No current HDTVs do, the misconceptions are largely the fault of the HDTV makers with their various interpolation methods. HDMI 1.4a is also part of the limitation and even if HDMI 1.4b changes the spec to support 1080p@60Hz 3D, chances are support won't be retroactive for your TV.

Your best bet is 3DTV Play, for Samsung TVs however there is a loophole where you might be able to get checkerboard 1080p@60Hz 3D output via 3D Vision, but I don't think your model is supported.

The workaround is using the right TV. To achieve 1920x1080 native res 3D gaming, you'll need a D7000 or D8000 LED samsung, or any 2010 samsung.

Aww.. that's bad to hear.
My model is an UN40D6420UFXZA. How can I find out if it's supported?

Thank you.

Ahh! You beat me posting that reply.
So D7000 and D8000 LED Samsungs are 3D Vision supported?

Thank you.

Your HDTV supports 3DTV Play, but is limited to 720p@60Hz or 1080p@24Hz in 3D bc of HDMI framepacking limitations: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-system-requirements.html

You can try 3D out for free with the 3DTV Play trial version, if you want to use it beyond 14 days its ~$40 for the full version.

Yes. In 2011, samsung all but abandoned checkerboard mode (all 2010 samsungs support 3DV/CB mode). The samsung D7/8xxx LEDs are the only direct view 3DTV brand that supports 3D Vision/checkerboard mode. Can you swap your D6400 for a D7/8xxx samsung LED?
