Failed Backlight on 2233RZ Anyone else experienced this?
My 2233RZ was purchased in Feb 2009 and it has been my everyday work monitor since that time. This weekend, after updating an input device driver (Wacom Intuos4 Pen/Tablet) and rebooting, my display remained dark. I wasn't watching the reboot process so I'm not certain if this was an all-at-once thing, if it suddenly faded out, or what - I just thought things were taking longer to boot than normal. After a few minutes I turned the monitor off and back on. I saw my normal screeen for about one second and then it blanked. I turned it off and back on - same thing, on for a second then gone. I could find nothing like this on this forum or Nvidia's KB so I went to Samsungs's tech support page and found this page. A call to tech support more or less confirmed this was the case and I received a replacement RMA.

I'm mentioning this in case anyone else suddenly finds themself was a blank monitor and isn't sure what to do next. I should also mention that even though the screen appeared completely blank, at first, if I looked hard and close, I could see the faintest outline a very bright window (such as the NV Control Panel on my black background). A few minutes later however, even that was gone and there was nothing visible. Power recycling continued to show a normal screen for a quick second, then nothing.

Could be a bad power supply as well, at the shop we do repairs and more than half of all LCD repairs are blown power supplies.

Do you hear anything as you turn it on? A little electrical buzz/crackling?

Could be the backlight issue as well, but you say you can get a normal picture for a second which, in my experience, tells me that the lighting is good, but the PSU is damaged and can't supply the neccesary current to keep the backlight on, so it shuts down to protect itself.

I guess it really doesn't matter as long as they are going to RMA it for you. luckily Samsung has good warranties.

I didn't see or hear anything unusual (flashing, popping, etc.) so I had no idea what had happened. I thought it was odd that I had a normal display for a second before it blanked so your diagnosis sounds very likely. Sounds like an RMA in either case and I'm glad Samsung is going to take care of it.

Samsung has good warranty's compared to many manufacturers. From time to time its possible to get a bad unit but overall Samsung experiences allot less returns than others.
