I just bought a new tv. A LG476200. It is a 3d ready led tv. I would like to try my pc games in 3d. I went to the site which gives a list of compatible tv's for 3Dtvplay. I assume I need this software to take advantage of the 3d elements. Anyone know if my particular tv will work and do I need the 3dtvplay software? I know those lists sometimes don't get updated as fast as technology comes around. I just don't want to waste money on software that will do me no good.

You could also do an EDID override based on a Zalman 3D Vision Ready monitor, and it will work perfectly. I think you can find the EDID of this Zalman monitor in the web, and I don't think you will need a 3DV emitter, since the Zalman monitor uses passive glasses, so no need for the emitter. I've tried this EDID before in my Samsung TV and it worked wonders, since my Samsung Plasma TV also supports interleaved 3D mode, but I still prefer Checkerboard over interleaved, as my Samsung is an active 3D TV.

I really liked using frame sequential mode with my Plasma TV, so I could play games in 1080p30hz full reolution per eye, but now I can't anymore using the newer Nvidia drivers, cause Nvidia no longer offers Generic CRT support, which was the 3D Vision mode for Frame Sequential.
BTW, yesterday I watched for the 1st time Titanic 3D produced by James Cameron and I was impressed with the 2D-3D conversion, it's was really amazing what he managed to do with a 1997 movie, really impressive, but it's James Cameron, so you got give a discount....

I personally do a lot of test with different brands and models (and i have a LG passive and a 2010 Sammy Active)...and tbh my conclusion is there not such difference in 3D quality and if you add the Crosstalk, Ghosting and flickering of the Active...Passive wins (Since 1 year ago i dont use my sammy for 3D, only 2D). I tested the 2012 Sammy line and there is a lot of improvements (compared to 2010 line), but still you see Ghosting and Flickering, Crosstalk is almost 0. In LG 3DTV passive i test and mine i never see Crosstalk, not flickering and zero ghosting (in only 2 games i noticed a very very little)
If you think in one frame (for example the first frame), passive shows 540 lines in left eye and 540 lines in the right (same frame), and Active shows 1080 lines in left eye and a BLACK IMAGE in the right eye...both shows in the first frame 1080 lines (left+right eye)...better to show something, than shows nothing.

@DeadAlot, desktop resolution use the 1920x1080 /59hz (important to change to 59hz).....and in-game options:
a) Use 1280x720 for "3DTV Play" option (if there is an option in game always select 1280x720/59hz)
b) Use 1920x1080 for "HDMI Checkerboard" option --> With this option you dont need Zalman EDID
If you dont go in to 3D mode in the initial 3D test, let me know. Here there're 2 possibles problems:
1) You have to add a Custom resolution (1280x720 /60.01 hz - Manual Option)....There is a problem with the 6xx Series and those refresh rate... don't work in 3D vía HDMI, only 59hz!....i reported several times to Nvida with none answer.
2) Your 3DTV it's not compatible. You can submit a form to Nvidia to add the TV for compatibility (i dont remember the link..oops), in the meantime you can use the Zalman EDID.
If you go pass the initial 3D test, increase depth to 100% and enable advance options (to change convergence).

I loved my passive LG 3D HDTV when I had it with the exception of the input lag, it made certain games unplayable.
The worst thing was that it seemed had more to do with LGs constant firmware updates

I think he may be on about the added input lag when 3dtv's are switched into 3d mode, every 3dtv has added input lag in 3d, hence the reason the zalman and acer edid are the only way to get no added input lag in 3dtv with 3dvision but it only works for passive 3d.
God knows why lg introduced interleaved as a 3d option as native interleaved vs 3d processing interleaved is a world apart when it comes to input lag.
Considering teh colourbug is fixed on a lm760t strange they have included the option.
Renaming inputs ect does nothing really for 3d processing input lag on lcd/plasma.
Eg compare 3dtvplay on a 3dtv and a acer 5360bd, on any 3dtv ( lcd,plasma )there is input lag that is'nt present in 2d, that's a fact, on the acer dlp it feels as if input lag in 3d is same as 2d.
Or
Compare the acer/zalman edid to 3dtvplay, you will se 3dtvplay has more input lag than native interleaved that needs no 3d processing.
I left 3dtv's after passive has gone crap due to motion blur ( bad backlight scanning at 60hz, tweaked for interpolation instead ! ) and i junked active after having some high range sets, 46/55 es8000, Dt50 that look very nice in 3d but are unplayeble for car racing due to added 3d input lag.

I think you can find the EDID of this Zalman monitor in the web, and I don't think you will need a 3DV emitter, since the Zalman monitor uses passive glasses, so no need for the emitter. I've tried this EDID before in my Samsung TV and it worked wonders, since my Samsung Plasma TV also supports interleaved 3D mode, but I still prefer Checkerboard over interleaved, as my Samsung is an active 3D TV.
You're new to 3D, maybe this EDID talk may sound confusing to you, but it's a really easy workaround and does the magic....

I tested a lot of LG 3D Cinema (42" up) and all have CB mode... the model of DeadAlot is also 3D Cinema (suppose it's 47 LM6200, dont tested yet), so i suppose have CB mode as well.

I don't even consider 2D-3D conversion mode since it's just marketing to sell 3DTVs when there were almost no 3D content like 2010 and 2011, but nowadays there's lots of 3D in stores, TV and web, so I don't understand why TV manufacturers still keep this useless conversion feature, which just gives a bad reputation about 3D, and doesn't work at all, just creating a fake effect that gives a headache and nausea to anyone who tries it out.
Your LG Passive TV has many 3D modes, really cool, almost as many as my Samsung TV, that also features frame sequential mode and another 3D format I don't know how to label it. My Samsung PL63C7000 Plasma TV features 7 3D modes, 2D-3D, TB, SBS, CB, Interleaved, Frame Sequentialunknown 3D format, and off course the automatic frame packing mode, that is present in all HDMI 1.4 devices.
So, if you count frame packing, actually my TV features 8 3D modes, not 7.
My Samsung Plasma TV has 7 modes that I have to manually set and Frame Packing which is an automatic mode for bluray3D and 3DTV Play.
Is it true that passive TVs don't have as much quality as active sets, since it's not really full resolution per eye? I think someone mentioned this here in this forum, but I'm not sure if that's the case. I really don't know much about the differences between active vs passive, besides that passive uses cheap glasses that don't require batteries like the ones in the Movies. I'm not sure about the 3D quality difference????
I really liked using frame sequential mode with my Plasma TV, so I could play games in 1080p30hz full reolution per eye, but now I can't anymore using the newer Nvidia drivers, cause Nvidia no longer offers Generic CRT support, which was the 3D Vision mode for Frame Sequential.
BTW, yesterday I watched for the 1st time Titanic 3D produced by James Cameron and I was impressed with the 2D-3D conversion, it's was really amazing what he managed to do with a 1997 movie, really impressive, but it's James Cameron, so you got give a discount....
All conversions I've seen so far looked faked and crappy, but Titanic 3D really astonished me...

I personally do a lot of test with different brands and models (and i have a LG passive and a 2010 Sammy Active)...and tbh my conclusion is there not such difference in 3D quality and if you add the Crosstalk, Ghosting and flickering of the Active...Passive wins (Since 1 year ago i dont use my sammy for 3D, only 2D). I tested the 2012 Sammy line and there is a lot of improvements (compared to 2010 line), but still you see Ghosting and Flickering, Crosstalk is almost 0. In LG 3DTV passive i test and mine i never see Crosstalk, not flickering and zero ghosting (in only 2 games i noticed a very very little)
If you think in one frame (for example the first frame), passive shows 540 lines in left eye and 540 lines in the right (same frame), and Active shows 1080 lines in left eye and a BLACK IMAGE in the right eye...both shows in the first frame 1080 lines (left+right eye)...better to show something, than shows nothing.

Monitors is another story.... Passive monitors normally sucks in 3D.
I also see Titanic in 3D....and yes, it's the best conversion in the market....hope Star Wars conversion looks the same or best.

My Tv has the settings that DHR showed in the screen pic above. I have downloaded the 14 day trial of 3dtvplay (have not installed yet). I found this link to the Zalman EDID. I have not downloaded yet as I wanted to ask you all if this is the right file and what to do with this file lol.
Once I get everything up and running hopefully will I have to drop my in game resolution to run 3d? I use the native res of my tv right now 1920x1080.

a) Use 1280x720 for "3DTV Play" option (if there is an option in game always select 1280x720/59hz)
b) Use 1920x1080 for "HDMI Checkerboard" option --> With this option you dont need Zalman EDID
If you dont go in to 3D mode in the initial 3D test, let me know. Here there're 2 possibles problems:
1) You have to add a Custom resolution (1280x720 /60.01 hz - Manual Option)....There is a problem with the 6xx Series and those refresh rate... don't work in 3D vía HDMI, only 59hz!....i reported several times to Nvida with none answer.
2) Your 3DTV it's not compatible. You can submit a form to Nvidia to add the TV for compatibility (i dont remember the link..oops), in the meantime you can use the Zalman EDID.
If you go pass the initial 3D test, increase depth to 100% and enable advance options (to change convergence).

The worst thing was that it seemed had more to do with LGs constant firmware updates

Is necessary to label the input to "PC"...with this you get 0 input lag and try to use the if-expert1 or if-expert2 to configure the input (and if the model support it, like mine, enable "Super Resolution", you get a visible improvement in visual with none input lag).
And yes, LG makes a lot of firmware update (1 per month aprox.)....normally updating Smart TV content. At least with my TV there have been 2 updates related to improve the 3D feature. It's good to know LG cares about this :)

I think he may be on about the added input lag when 3dtv's are switched into 3d mode, every 3dtv has added input lag in 3d, hence the reason the zalman and acer edid are the only way to get no added input lag in 3dtv with 3dvision but it only works for passive 3d.
God knows why lg introduced interleaved as a 3d option as native interleaved vs 3d processing interleaved is a world apart when it comes to input lag.
Considering teh colourbug is fixed on a lm760t strange they have included the option.
Renaming inputs ect does nothing really for 3d processing input lag on lcd/plasma.
Eg compare 3dtvplay on a 3dtv and a acer 5360bd, on any 3dtv ( lcd,plasma )there is input lag that is'nt present in 2d, that's a fact, on the acer dlp it feels as if input lag in 3d is same as 2d.
Or
Compare the acer/zalman edid to 3dtvplay, you will se 3dtvplay has more input lag than native interleaved that needs no 3d processing.
I left 3dtv's after passive has gone crap due to motion blur ( bad backlight scanning at 60hz, tweaked for interpolation instead ! ) and i junked active after having some high range sets, 46/55 es8000, Dt50 that look very nice in 3d but are unplayeble for car racing due to added 3d input lag.

Mainly PC games that used the X-Box controller, things like double jumps, combo moves or picking up items to throw were tedious due to lag.
I know about renaming the input etc etc. Mocca is right, it was before Optomized for Geforce came out and before he discovered the Zalman override. So using an interleaved override may have improved lag in those games to more tolerable levels.
