Hi All,
I've been invited to show off Far Cry 4 in 3D at a local video gaming bar next month:

I don't currently know much about their setup - I know they have a bunch of 80" TVs and plenty of 3D glasses for spectators, but I don't (yet) know the details of the specific models in use.
I don't have much experience with 3D TV Play as yet, and I was hoping to get a bit of advice from the community on what issues I might anticipate ahead of time - things like what 3D modes are / are not supported, are there any hacks or EDID overrides that might be necessary (and how I would know that), etc.
I'll be taking my Alienware M17x R4 along and plugging in to the TV via HDMI, so I assume the fact that the laptop has a built in 3D screen should cover the 3D TV Play license.
Any advice?

The fact that they have plenty of glasses would make me assume that they are using Passive displays.
Unfortunately 3DTV Play doesn't output line interleaved for Passive displays.
This results in the TV having to post process the input format and convert it to line-interleaved, adding unneeded lag. While this might not be noticeable most of the time, it can make things like double jumps very difficult. Many TVs have a lot of lag to begin with, some can be improved by renaming the input to either game or pc.
If they have an AVR in the chain, it's possible that it can prevent 3DTV Play from enabling.
Optimized for Nvidia GeForce outputs line interleaved, this is why people use it as an EDID override.
You'll probably want to go in during off hours and do a dry run or two.

From what they were telling me, the reason they have so many glasses is because they have something like 8 identical TVs for the various games & consoles they have set up and each TV came with two pairs of glasses.
I'll definitely have to organise to go in there ahead of time and check out their setup and make sure everything works with my laptop, but knowing what kind of issues I might hit in advance is definitely helpful :)

If you're showing off to 3D newcomers, I'd suggest keeping the depth around 60% or less, and not going overboard with convergence. They're going to have a hard time going straight to high depth settings, especially if they've been drinking.

The main event is scheduled for this Thursday (18th June) starting by 7:30pm. Granted, I'm probably the only person in Canberra on this forum, but if anyone happens to be around (or can tell a friend in Canberra), be sure to come along - there will also be a bunch of local indie game devs showing off their work :)

The night went well and reportedly my screen was the most popular overall throughout the night :)
I set up around 6pm and Ravi put me on a screen part way down the bar facing slightly toward the back of the bar - so that people would see us all wearing the glasses as they entered the bar and not a double image on the screen until they actually came over to take a look.
A number of people played the game throughout the night (some veterans who liked being able to experience it in a new way, others had never played it before) while I hovered around handing out glasses to anyone who came by and chatting to people about 3D gaming and our community. I overheard a lot of people asking their friends about it from further away, most of which came over after a while to have a go.
A couple of times it took a bit of encouragement to get people to actually put on the glasses, but once they did they instantly got the 'wow' factor :)
The crowds varied throughout the night, but 8 glasses was about right - there were a couple of times in the night that all 8 pairs were taken, but I usually had one or two spare that I could hand out as more people came by.
Things only started quietening down after 11pm and I called it a night at around midnight as most of the remaining patrons were more interested in the alcohol and company than the games by that point.
Overall a very successful night :)
