I have 2 very exciting news. The acers are finally arriving tomorrow - and ...
What's going to be really exciting is the fact I have discovered how to run the BenQ 1080ST and 1085ST in 1920x1080 at 120Hz. (it might work with optomas as well but I never tried it)
I can confirm that the 3D Vision works with the benq 1080ST in 1920x1080 @ 120HZ

Thanks D-Man11 :) . It's definitely not downsampling (I've compared the image quality at 60Hz and 120Hz and if it wasn't 120Hz the 3D wouldn't work properly. It took me quite a few days, lot of coffee and sleepless nights but its actually super simple (not even edid hack needed) The chips are fully capable of 1920x1200 @ 120HZ but for surround it maxes out at 1920x1080@120HZ (i blew one of the active DP to DVI converter on 1920x1200) for some reason it wasn't fully tested and enabled in any projectors.
Following steps should get it on:
1) Go to change resolution in nvidia control panel
2) make sure the projectors are on 1280x800 @120HZ
3) Click on customize > Create custom resolution
4) leave timing on auto and change horizontal pixels to 1920, vertical pixels to 1080, refresh rate to 120Hz (DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING IN TIMINGS)
5) click on test > ok and close window
6) CLICK ON APPLY (projectors and resolution will stay on 1280x800@120HZ even if you try to change it) if you change anything you must click on Apply before going onto projector no2
7) repeat steps 2 to 6
8) Go to configure surround and enable surround - it should automatically go to 3840 x 1080 @120HZ
if you will be interested have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwhkawDTfpg or like my page at https://www.facebook.com/simpittech/ for updates about new progress.

does anybody know how to get Star citizen going by any chance? I'm battling with it but losing

That's manual down sampling, we've been doing it for years.
The results vary from display to display, due to post processing that different manufactures apply when receiving such an input.
In comparison to Nvidia's DSR which uses a Gaussian Filter that they allow the user to adjust the strength, giving better results.

LOL - oh well, and I thought I discovered something new :D.
The ACER Z650 showed up on my doorstep just now so I'll post some pics and write up late. I thought I'll do unboxing but NZ customs beat me to it and shredded the padding to bits (hopefully the projector survived)

I hope so, projectors are somewhat fragile.
Please let us know if it's capable of 1920x1080@120Hz via any of it's connections.
Perhaps you could post the inf? Use Monitor Asset Manager from EnTech Taiwan (it's free), select the "real-time" display id, then select "File", then "Create inf"

it's not 120HZ native but you can use the workaround.
Otherwise I've just picked up my jaw and changed pants - the projector is incredible. Perfect match for the black smart projection surface. even my monitor seems dull and washed out colors ... some more pics coming with demo of the dynamic range - it's more than human eye can cope with and not even my A7S could deal with it ... and that's something what's not happening very often

well - all sorted with the Star citizen and all the other games too :D - the z650 has automatic 2D to 3D and it works amazingly well. (sorry for the watermark - I've been lazy and linked the pics from my FB page)

just discovered that z605 has changed the way how the 3D is enabled. You can leave it in 1920x1080@60HZ and just push the 3d button and it goes straight to frame sequential without any complaints. There is tons of new features I'm just discovering.
I've tried it with the SimPit Smart Screens for home cinema too (for PS4 and Xbox)

disclaimer - you will not get the same image on white screen)
Do you have an Nvidia emitter?
If so, does it show 3DTV Play or 3D Vision in the control panel?
I do have an emitter - I'l check it out to confirm but I think it does
Hmm, you can watch 3D in Checkerboard? The glasses sync up?
If so, Checkerboard should be supported by 3DTV Play @60Hz.
If the projector supports it in the software, is it projector limiting you to 24Hz?
I've yet to see a projector support Checkerboard, although recently I saw that the LG PF100oU Ultra Short throw shows it as a selectable format in a YouTube video.
