Only the owner of the laptop themselves can tell themselves if 3D Vision will work with their laptop or not.
You'll need to have PhysX installed and then use the feature in the NVidia control panel to see what display outputs are hooked to which GPU.
If none of the video outputs are connected to the Nvidia GPU, you can not use 3D Vision or 3D Vision Discover, they will not activate.
Here's a excerpt from a guide, you can find the full guide at...
PART I.1 - LAPTOPS ONLY!!!
=======================================================================================================
- If you plan to hook a 3D monitor to your laptop first of all we need to be sure that you have a (mini) Display Port that is actually HOOKED with your nVidia GPU and not the Intel one.
- In order to do this, on your laptop, go to nVidia Panel -> "Set PhysX Configuration"

- Here look under your nVidia GPU and Identity IF THE DISPLAY PORT IS DIRECTLY hooked to it or not.
In the above picture you can clearly see that the DP port is linked directly to the nVidia GPU and is not routed through the Intel Chipset (unlike the HDMI or the VGA that is linking directly to it)
=======================================================================================================
PART II - Looking for a (mini) Display Port to DL-DVI(D/I) ACTIVE adapter
=======================================================================================================
- For 3D Vision you will need an ACTIVE adapter /converter.
- First note the type of cable your monitor is using:

- Second, after you found a converter that has both your connections (Display Port(mini) to DL-DVI-(D/I) TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT BANDWIDTH IT SUPPORTS !!! (This is where the PIXEL CLOCK from image 2 comes into place). You will want a converter with a bandwidth that is a bit higher than your monitor's pixel clock frequency or otherwise IT WILL NOT WORK!!!
This is the tricky part since most adapters/converters don't specify this (in the internet specs), but if you ask directly the company that produces them you will be able to obtain this information!

Prema told me that for my laptop, the card will work if I did an .inf mod or used one of his custom bios's. He then said that internal 3D wouldn't work. Also, it's not listed under the 980m specs.

Sounds like something's not adding up~
Site says no, Modder says no, Reseller says no, Nvidia Dev says yes. Answer is never clear is it. For ppl who want money, it sure doesn't seem like it. Thing is, since it involves a high amount of money and whoever sells it always says no refunds, you would think that one would be able to get a clear definite consistent answer. This is something that an end user can't just take a chance on.
Prema did say it worked externally for my machine though. But still, why isn't it on the card's details page!? I mean, non of the new refresh models are even carrying internal 3D anymore.
I think Nvidia is going to release a VR headset when the others come out. That will explain alot.

Don't know... but it's extrange if it doesn't work, I guess it's a VBIOS problem. Tomorrow I'm going to test it with a Mac displayport Active adapter, I hope it'll work.

Where did you see this? could you link it here?

In a pm when I asked him on the Notebookreviews forum.
ME:
Does the mod for the P370sm3 include being able to use the 980M or do the 980Ms work without it? I ask because I only see that it supports 880M.
PREMA: It works with a simple driver .inf mod, only the internal 3D will not work.
ME: Is that something that you will be looking over or is there nothing that can be done about the 3D not working?
PREMA: OEMs have t pay NVIDIA for internal screen 3D licences. If there is any other Notebook with 3D vision I could try to include the code...at this point there is none.
ME: Oh okay, I see.
Lastly, when you said a simple .inf modiication, does that include the original bios too, just yours, or both?
PREMA: It should work either way...
<END>
I assumed external 3D works because he just specified that the internal 3D didn't. There was also talk about it on Notebookreview and TechInferno forums but I don't have links to those forum convos.

Lots of Disks:
- Raid 0 - 256GB Sandisk Extreme SSD.
- Raid 0 - WD Black - 2TB.
- SanDisk SSD PLUS 480 GB.
- Intel 760p 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.

I did read tons of rumors about this incompatibility (optimus dissables either), is it true? thanks.
