Thanks for the answer, Bo3b On my "demo" version I don't have 3D dropouts. The broken shaders still occur occasionally, as before, and when they do it's a sign that a crash would follow. But this no longer happens frequently (as in: after 5-10 minutes, faster if travelling by car). The only negative effects of your fix are the flickering foliage (does not bother me) and the fact that now the crashes can occur without a "broken shader" warning, so I cannot switch to 2D and finish a mission, I simply lose the progress. But this happened only once, because I got cocky and wanted to push your fix to the limit, and went for two missions in a row. This can be easily avoided by saving and exiting the game after each mission. Your fix actually addresses the biggest problem in 3D with this game, which is sudden crash and loss of progress. This is caused by the memory leak AND the lack of save mechanics. Any one of these issues disappears, no more problem. But since none of them are likely to be addressed, I believe your fix makes this game playable, where it was totally unplayable in 3D before. No small feat! Your fix is pushing me to buy this game full price. Were it not for the pricing shenanigans during the Steam sales, I would probably do it. But I think I'll stop playing and wait for the first discount. Thanks again!

It's not clear if this fix is good enough yet or not. Some people are still getting crashes. I know it's not placebo for me, because it can make it through the full stability challenge, but may not be working as well for others. I'd wait for a sale. Rockstar has done absolutely nothing to engender any goodwill for 3D. It's nearly perfect, and yet they cannot be bothered to fix one or two last bugs. This makes me think that 3D was just luck for them because they used the Max Payne 3 game engine, and did not actually put any effort into it.

Bo3b, thank you for all of your hardwork! I just recently purchased GTA V pretty much solely because of the really good reviews it had regarding 3D Vision. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10 and now I can't use the 350.12 drivers. From what I understand the latest Windows 10 drivers cause a crashing problem and if I use 3Dmigoto I get a flickering bush problem? Is there any workout for both? I'm running a GTX 980 single card.

Does somebody have an immediate freeze for GTA 5 on 3d vision when trying to get past the rockstar clip? 2D on sli works without problems, somehow 3d Vision will cause hard freezes. Can't seem to resolve this issue.

@bo3b There seems to be a real Memory Leak in GTA V on 3D Vision. Just played it on SlI 2D, no prob. But sometimes as soon as I switch it on my PC freezes. Should I only use 3 GB of VRam when I use 3D Vision on my 2 GTX780TI with 3GB each? This problem is really absurd for a game ratified as 3D ready.

On the first post, one of the notes is that you should try doing a DDU uninstall of the driver, as a way to solve it. Try doing a clean install of 350.12, later drivers are pretty bogus. There is however a clear memory leak when it's running in 3D, that is not present in 2D. But, this is system memory, not VRAM. Depending upon settings, it can crash after as few as 2 benchmarks runs, but I've never seen it crash at launch. The prototype fix above seems to help, but not fully solve, the crash from memory.

@bo3b thanks for your reply. I will DDU uninstall my newest driver and will install 350.12 which supposedly is for gta V. I will try it without and with the prototype fix and post my results. You all here a a great help to effort this issue somehow. Edit: 350.12 causes menu text to disappear on one eye on 3D, also shaders and shadows are out of depth in many places. That is a known problem. The shadows being out of depth could be a couple of things, but try turning 3D off then back on. And/or change the depth and convergence. When I first started playing it would look busted until I touched one of those knobs. Crashing randomly is the bane of our playing here, everyone gets it. The prototype fix above does not cure the problem unfortunately, but has made it less prevalent. The only way to get it stable enough to play is to lower graphic settings. (It's a memory leak, the higher the quality the faster/more it leaks.) I've given up any hope that the dipwads at R* will spend the 30 minutes it takes to solve this problem in 3D, so I'm looking into a 3Dmigoto workaround. No promises.

@bo3b Thanks again for these hints. I've uploaded a video showing the crash at the end [9 Minutes actual enduring]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJdFiI-Z0UA Somehow I was on rampage mood to challenge the system. I hope that someday 3D Vision will work as intended on the getgo. I will put a Cryonics-tag on this game till I can enjoy 3D Vision hereon again. No sense to carry on 2D (sounds like an addict I admit).

@chrisoutwright: Great video. Can you do us a favor? Please open a support ticket with R* with this video as the demonstration of the 3D crash. The more people that report the bug, the more likely they are to actually fix it. I think that a lot of us don't bother to report bugs because the support staff are universally zero help, but that also makes it so they don't know they have a problem. You can reference mine and Pirate's bug reports as well. Your video is particularly good demonstration, which is why it's worth adding your voice. My support #, and Pirate's support #: #4112676, #3552109

@bo3b I have just issued the support ticket with Rockstar. I mentioned the two # and my video of course. Maybe now they will actually turn to some bug scouting. Edit: This is the response mail: "Hello JGVaughan, This issue could be caused by a program running in the background. Please disable/shutdown all unnecessary programs and attempt to play. If this doesn't work please do a clean boot by following the steps below. Attach an updated DXdiag and MSinfo to your reply. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search. Type msconfig in the search box, and then tap or click msconfig. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable. Close Task Manager. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer. Please let us know if you have any questions. " Just to be clear. One of the Services is also NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service. They can't be serious! Haven't they got a Game Software Development Lifecycle Post-Implementation Quality Control Process? They must have outsourced it, looking at the incompetence of resolving the issues in their offices. I appreciate the work they have put into to port the game, but this is not justifying false claims of 3D readiness, or their handling of the issues resulting out of this which belies our expectations at the point of time of buying the game. Statistically by the reportings of other gamers here it is improbable that anything is faulty on my side, as everybody would have to have the same startup/services running to replicate the problems. I'm disappointed at the Rockstar team to say the least. @bo3b I have just issued the support ticket with Rockstar. I mentioned the two # and my video of course.
Maybe now they will actually turn to some bug scouting.

Edit: This is the response mail:

"Hello JGVaughan,

This issue could be caused by a program running in the background.

"

Just to be clear.

Hi. The game works fine for me in 3D (except some strange graphical effects I 'be been told before and bad FPS mode) with windows 8.1 64bits, nvidia 350.12 drivers and standard profile. My questions : 1. Could I upgrade to Windows 10 without any trouble ? Would I keep my savegames ? Could I keep 350.12 drivers ? Could I be able to go on without crashes ? 2. Would it be the same answers with the other games (Far Cry 4, witcher 3, ...) Thank you so much for your help...
