Initial setup questions
EDIT: Got it working with older drivers. See my latest post #9.

I need some help getting my 3D vision kit going. I got this as a present 3 weeks ago but no luck getting it working yet.

I have tried this from scratch several times using the 1.23 driver package download. Everything seems to go perfectly until the Hardware Test phase of the setup. The bright-green light is on, but the left eyeglass stays always dark, and the right eyeglass stays clear most of the time. If I flick my finger in front of the IR receiver of the glasses, both L and R eyeglasses flicker. I have tried lying to the setup wizard and telling it the correct choices so that it thinks the setup is working OK...but then when I try to run a game like L4D or something, the bright green light will not come on when I push the button. I am getting pretty frustrated....

My last try was with Nvidia driver 197.21 and 3D Vision driver 197.13. Same results.

Please help!!!

Technical advice or questions are fine - I am highly knowledgeable regarding computer configuration troubleshooting.

Win7 x64 Pro
8800GTS 320MB

I have read all of the forum FAQ, the manual and quick start guide. I have the lights off and have tried a lot of different setup angles. Always the same result as above.

If I go to the device manager I see the 3D USB controller listed under the USB controllers area, and it tells me that driver is up to date.... HELP!! Is this even where I should be asking for help?

Thanks!!!!!!!

Man, this really sounds like a hardware issue. First off, I'm wondering about your USB port, hoping you'd swapped the transmitter hub into a couple of others.

Otherwise ...any chance an acquaintance has a setup and you can swap components? (the hub, then the glasses).

Yeah, it's got to be frustrating, especially knowing the reward you're so close to ...

No, I do not know anyone who can swap components with me. I guess I could put out a request on craigslist. Anyone around the Corvallis, Oregon area?

All diagnostic indications from the computer are that the pieces are working correctly (driver, 3d driver, monitor (vx2265wm), usb driver). I would have immediately said defective glasses, but seeing how both lenses flicker when I sweep my fingers in front of the IR receiver makes me think they are OK?? I guess it could be a transmitter issue?

I guess my wife's laptop has an 8600M GPU...I could try seeing if the Hardware Test works correctly on that...yeah?

SO again, I tried the v1.20 3d driver package. Same results. In the setup process, as soon as I past the monitor verification and the green light becomes a bright green light, the left lens of the glasses goes dark. /pinch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pinch:' />

I don't think your wife's laptop will let it get past the monitor recognition step, eh?

I assume you swapped USB ports?

I guess the problem is that there's no good way to know whether the transmitter is sending the proper signals to the glasses. It's definitely sending something, as you noted when you broke the signal path with your hand.

On the other hand, I can't think of a good way to determine that the glasses are even responding properly. They understand some of what's being sent them, as you proved above.

The reason I'm suspicious of the hardware (either the transmitter or the glasses) is because you say they can't pass the "hardware" test ...I assume you mean the part where you close your left eye and expect to see only the triangles or squares - and likewise with the right eye closed. That seems to be saying that the transmitter can't send the proper info or the glasses can't execute on that info.

The one mystifying part is that your setup isn't recognizing a 3D game - I would think that the same signal is sent to the hub as a "3D - Go!" that was sent during setup. I would expect the system to blindly send a "3D - Go!" signal to the hub if you were playing a 3D game and the glasses would just act screwy. That's probably what you were expecting, too.

One more thing: After you 'fool' the setup sequence into thinking the glasses are operating properly, does the nVidia Control Panel, confirm 3D Vision OK? That is, in the middle of that panel, right under "Stereoscopic 3D display type:" it should say, "Viewsonic 3D 120Hz LCD" ...is that the case?

I have exactly the same problem as you have, also with a 8800 GTS and Win7 x64. However, the glasses were working before, and they stopped working shortly after I installed the latest beta driver. So maybe the uninstall isn't complete... I also tried changing usb port...

Anyways, I have ordered a GTX 285, I will try again when I recieve it, the I will reinstall Windows to try it out...

I you find a solution, I will be very interested to hear it ^^

Thanks!!

Ok so I have found that my hardware is working correctly. I installed it on my same PC, but I booted up into an old Vista x32 partition. The 3D vision is working flawlessly.

Things I did different :

-- different USB port
-- used the driver CD that came in the box (v1.11)
-- different operating system...

I will go back to win7 x64 now and see if these changes help...

Well I tried swapping ports to the one that worked with Vista... still I get the same problem. It seems like a driver issue now to me. I will clean off the drivers and boot into safe mode and install the drivers off the original CD and try that....

And fanfair, yes, the monitor is listed correctly in the control panel.

OK -
FIXED - basically!

I used the older drivers on the physical CD (v1.11) and everything is working as it should in Windows 7 x64 Pro.
The 1.20 and 1.23 driver packages both failed in the same way for me.
The one difference I noted was during the installation of the 3D vision driver - With the 1.11 package I get a prompt that comes up over the installation progress bar which which asks me to confirm if I want to install the USB driver. This prompt did not come up for the other 1.2x packages. This seems pretty clear to me as the cause of the issue - mis-configured IR transmittter USB driver...

Unfortunately I am not stuck with older drivers. Can someone help me out with how I might upgrade to newer drivers and still maintain functionality?

Yeah, I see what you mean!

Everything is saying nVidia 3D Vision thinks it's up and running - it just couldn't drive the glasses properly.

Now ...how do you get the latest drivers to run without screwing up your hub ...but I think you're down to the last hitch.

3D Vision is now working perfectly since I installed the new graphic card, and with the newest drivers. So I think there is some incompatibility between 1.2x and the 8800 GTS...
I also didn't get the USB driver question, so maybe it was not the problem...

The question for you is now: Up to which version can you upgrade until it fails...
