It uses its own renderer rather then 3d vision. 3d vision kind of assumes that how water is supposed to look based on code/profile. The shaders may still be different in the VR version but I dont think so. If I turn off the renderer for Deus Ex or Lego Batman 2 it looks like death.

Ah, right. So they could in fact do it if they used NVAPI directly, but since we are reliant upon the driver level automatic mode, it has the problems. I keep thinking that automatic mode tends to make bad guesses (heuristics), and wonder if there is any way outside of Helix's surface creation mode technique to disable guessing altogether.

Not really, but you wouldn't want to. The guesses/heuristics is what it gives us support all together. It sucks when something goes wrong as it often does because one bad "guess" can ruin a game but you got to keep in mind its literally trying to turn a mono game stereo which is a lot. You can tell by changing profiles on a game and seeing the massive differences.

Hey mate, you have tested sony hmz-t1 also. How does the screen door effect compare to sonys? I wont be able to demo oculus, so id have to order dev kit. But if the screen door effect is much worse on the oculus compared to sony, i need to wait for the consumer version or higher resolution dev kit.
SDE on sony does not bother me, but anything worse might.

HMZ-T1 doesnt have a screen door effect for me when I tested it, if it was there it seriously didnt bother me.
Rift dev kit has a huge screen door effect. Like 1/8 the image is pixel borders is not an exaggeration.
Rift dev kit is half the resolution with over twice as big FOV. Hmz-t1 has at least 4 x more Pixel Per Inch [PPI].

Okay, thanks for you input. I think im going to wait for higher resolution screens then. I hope 1080p dev kit comes along, but the oculus guys have been really quiet about that, so i doubt it.
