H.A.W.X. 2 , Ubisoft, 3D Vision, HDTV's Ubisoft = Worst Customer Sevice Ever
So I purchased HAWX 2 on steam yesterday for $29.99 (I know, I paid to much) and the game will not work on HDTV and DLP TV (which stinks for 3D vision). I tried altering the config file to no avail. Even with 3D vision off I get a black screen with "mode not supported". My other 80 games don't do this. I called Ubi tech line and it was the most unhelpful experience ever (thanks Ted). He told me I should by a computer monitor because people don't game on TV's. I even tried to explain the type of TV and how this is the only game giving me probs. He told me I should buy a console (which I have). I took offense to that and explained why I game on PC with a 61" DLP. He wasn't willing to even try to help me figure it out. He told me that it is "common sense" that I should use a computer with a computer monitor. He must still be in the 80's. Anyway, I posted this for 2 reasons:

1) to raise awareness

2)If anyone has a work around, I would really appreciate it

Thanks

Works great on my Mitsubishi WD60C9 with 3D Vision. Are you trying to load the game up for the first time? What kind of TV do you have? My HAWX2 loaded up default at 1280x720 which I changed to my 1080p overscan-adjusted resolution (1824x1026) after I got into the game.

I have a Samsung LED DLP. When I start most games for the first time, I have to do the same adjustment you do. This game won't even do that. I even adjusted the .ini file to my resolution (even though my tv will read the default resolution) to no avail. I checked refresh rate, windowed mode, dx version, everything. It does this even with 3D vision deactivated. I am stumped especially if yours works. I like to think I have a very "clean" computer setup considering everything else works. I guess I will have to call there tech "lack of" support line again (oh joy!)
According to Ubi, your TV is not supported, how nice.
Thanks for responding and helping.

Have you selected direct X 11 when it starts up? You need a fermi card for that, eg GTX570, that could cause the problem.

Another thing to try is in Steam go to Detail view of your games right click on Hawx2 and select Properties, goto Local files and select Verify integrity of game cache...

After that try starting the game again.

Yeah, it boots in DX 11 and I have 2 GTX470 ( which equals a nice space heater). I tried DX9 and DX11. I am going to try the file inegrity thing (that's a good idea). I am going to disable SLI as well even though the game supports it.
Thanks for the help :)

Non Sli doesn't matter. File integrity showed no probs. Drivers are current (as well as everything else). I just don't see why this game will not work.

i just bought and installed this game yesterday on my DLP mits system. i had a hard time with the DRM causing similar problems. i had to manually install ubisoft game launcher under the

C:\games\steamapps\common\tom clancy's hawx 2 - ncsa\redist\GameLauncher

i had to let it update itself, fill out account info and then the game worked. the stock steam install crashed the game for me, i only had a black box. i cannot recall what the error message said, as i was doing multiple things at once on the computer. my firewall had issues with the drm also, that took a bit of configuring. it booted into 720 3d once i got it working. but if you have not gotten the ubisolf crappy DRM working its probably what is crashing the game- thats what happened to me,

if that does not work, it could be that the game is trying to use a incompatible resolution with the DLP, try messing with compatibility mode under properties, sometimes turning off DWM helps me get around desktop scaling issues. or force the game to boot in lower resolutions that the tv can handle.

do you have a mitubishi DLP?

u can also try re installing all the other redist files if the game launcher crashes. it crashed once on me during instal.

overall i hate DRM. i had a horrible time with bulletstorm too. i think im going to just steal games from now on. i hate having to spend hours trying to get a game to work that i payed for. i make so much $$ these companies now owe me way more than they made off me.

I had to do this exact same thing for my buddy's comp so we could play this game co-op together. His computer is brand new and only has a few games installed and none were Ubisoft games. Mine on the other hand already had Ubisoft games installed (Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands) so I never saw this issue. Thanks for the heads up, it seems a Steam support ticket is in order for this issue. Steam should point to the Game Launcher file regardless of what has been installed just to insure that the game loads up correctly. Thanks again.

What a mess. Steam replied to my ticket with a few things I could try.

1) Run Steam as Admin. WOW, that was a bad idea. Nothing better than seeing every steam file pop up on your desktop. I am pretty sure that is not the porblem.

2) Re install Ubi Launcher. Wasn't neccessary but I did it anyway. No difference

3) Re install the distributables. Yeah, I have no idea what it did besides show me an install meter. Anyway. No effect.

4) My favorite, contact Ubi Support. Least favorite.

Anyway, after doing all of the above, not only does the game black screen but now I can't choose between DX9 and DX11. After spending way too much time in my life, I have all but given up.

Is this game even worth playing in 3D vision before I go any further?

Honestly, this is one of the best 3D titles. I just got done playing a co-op campaign session with a buddy of mine.. I'm at a loss exactly what your problem is. Could you try plugging your comp into a different display and see if you can even get into the game?

I feel like Dora the Explorer (We did it, We did it, We did it yeah). Anyway, I figured it out tonight but first two things:

1. I want to thank everyone that took the time to respond to this post
2. Ubisofts customer service is absolutely horrible.

So the prob was, when you install, through steam, HAWX 2 sets the refresh rate to 50hz. Causing the "mode not supported" prob on tv's and monitors. If you find the config file in your steam directory and alter it, it means nothing. That config file is for the install (first time I have seen that, by the way). You have to go to c:users/"your name"/save game/HAWX2/profile to find the 2 REAL config files you have to alter. I have done this sort of thing a million times before. If Ubisoft would just let everyone know where this is at, I could have saved 3 hours of my life. Anyway, the game is pretty good in 3D. So far, I think HAWX 1 is better. I noticed no one is online in this one so if anyone wants to do coop, let me know (whodamanxbox).

Thanks again!
