Is it really? 3d beats 2d at any playable frame rate and resolution as far as I am concerned.
Every game that I have there is atrocious stutter with anything but a solid 60 FPS in 3D Vision, i.e. The Witcher 3 and Mass Effect Andromeda being a stutter-fest even at 50 FPS, and I've literally tried everything, Tripple Buffering, Number of Pre-rendered Frames up to 4, V-Sync off in game and on in control panel and vise versa. Whereas, with G-Sync, 50 FPS doesn't stutter. And 21:9 is just straight up advantageous and awesome, in some genres moreso than others. Take any FPS, where youre controlling a point, and you have two entryways that you would normally have to constantly alternate between with 16:9, in many instances with 21:9 you can see both entry ways at once. It's almost like having peripheral vision. I absolutely love both my AW3418DW and PG278Q, the latter which I use only for 3D Vision at this point. If I had to choose between one or the other it would be a very very tough decision. What I have been doing since acquiring the AW3481DW is I use one monitor for a week or two, and then switch to the other to view a movie, like I just spent a week with the PG278Q after viewing both Doctor Strange and Avengers: Infinity War in 3D, and was wowed beyond expression when I tried Mass Effect: Andromeda in 3D Vision, it being vastly superior to 2D on the AW3418DW, the sensation of falling down to Habitat 7 in that emergency decent in the beginning of the game, and the cut-scenes, everything way better. BUT, I had to put it down because I couldn't get it to run at greater than 50 FPS on Habitat 7 and I already turned the resolution down 10% via custom resolution and it wasn't as crisp and bright as I would like it to be. It was stuttering everywhere. I then tried it afterwards on the AW3418DW and although 80 FPS G-Sync felt much more fluid and there weren't any double-talk and the colors were slightly better because of the IPS, it just wasn't as good as in 3D. As far as Arkham Knight though, my biggest concern is that I'm now only really able to play this mostly smoothly having upgraded from a 4930k @ 4.5 GHz to 8700k @ 5.1 GHz (there was a lot of hitching previously). I'm worried that the 3 Core bug inherent with 3D Vision will make this an unplayable experience in 3D. And the 21:9 in this game, man it completely solves the problem of the camera being too close on Batman / how he's taking up like literally half the screen when youre walking. And it's so smooth. For this game, 21:9 90 FPS curved G-Sync vs 50-60 FPS 3D Vision would be a tough choice unless the 3D is really good, it doesn't induce severe CPU bottlenecking, and the 1080 Ti can push 120 FPS 2560x1440 without too many compromises (I'm at 90 FPS pretty much everywhere with Gameworks on and around 70-90% GPU Utilization at 2025 MHz at 3440x1440, I will have to turn stuff down or off to get it to run at 60 FPS everywhere at 2560x1440 120 Hz). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdJ51TQdEVY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0afwE6GVLQw&t I also love racing games, and in this regard, higher FPS 2D is better hands down IMHO as the objects that render in 3D (other cars, track-side objects etc.) are too far away to appreciate the 3D effect and most racing games seem to not have proper support. Like I LOVE Forza Horizon 3, and there's zero support for 3D with this game, and even if there was, I don't know that I would opt for 60 FPS 16:9 vs 120 FPS 21:9 here. The 21:9 just makes racing games absolutely amazing and it's a huge advantage as with a lot of turns that extra horizontal real estate allows you to scan the track ahead coming out of hairpins etc. Dude if it wasn't for 3D vision I would have literally boxed up my PG278Q. Like 16:9 is absolute garbage once you play anything in 21:9. I don't know if you remember, but I remember playing like the original Xbox at Playstation 2 etc. on 4:3 televisions and when I got an XBOX 360 I also picked up a 1920x1080 monitor and I was so wowed by the difference in aspect ratio. Well going from 16:9 to 21:9 is just like going from 4:3 to 16:9 all over again. And the movies! No more black bars (that is, if you elect to view them in 2D / they aren't 3D movies). In fact, some movies actually look much better in 120 FPS 2D via Smooth Video Project without black bars (frame interpolation) on the AW3418DW, such as Wonder Woman, which for whatever reason seemed to have 3D that was poorly done and didn't feel very smooth no look very good but looked fantastic in 2D at 120 FPS and conversely, Avengers: Infinity War which looked better in 3D on the PG278Q at 25 FPS with black bars. If my AW3418DW was both 120 FPS G-Sync or 60 FPS 3D Vision capable (like PG278Q) I would be in absolute heaven. To the best of my knowledge certain 21:9 monitors have unofficial 3D Vision support such as Acer Predator X34 (don't quote me on that) etc. but it's only 100 Hz with an overclock, so that's 50 Hz 3D. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVBxS3xVFn0

One more game: No Man's Sky. Looks absolutely gorgeous in 21:9, has zero SLI support, and planets with tessellation bring my 1080 Ti FE down to 45 FPS meaning 60 FPS is out of the question in 3D Vision. If you can swing both, I highly recommend an AW3418DW or X34P (same panel). They go on sale for $900 routinely. It's a lot, but man is this one hell of a monitor, and FAR better than 4K.

Ok, well I do have peripheral vision for FPS games because I use Surround monitors but I hear you on the performance concerns, for me it depends on the game, but I can usually get away with anything over 45 fps. I don't have any stutter issues though so I wonder whats going on for you there. Your specs don't look that bad.

Too bad you can't do 3 way SLI with Pascal and run one 1080 Ti to each monitor, that would be 3D surround heaven I suppose. Surround is much better, I just don't know that I could unsee the bezels and that's one thing curved 21:9 has going for it over a surround set up. Yeah I don't know what's going on. You don't get stuttering in The Witcher 3 at 50 FPS? Every 3D Vision game I have this is the case. What settings are you using in terms of V-Sync, Pre-rendered frames etc?

If you play at 120Hz, only 60, 30, 20... fps will be smooth. If you get 50fps, maybe it's better for you to play at 100Hz instead. By the way, the Asus PG278QR isn't curved.

Yes it's not curved but with three way surround in my setup it virtually is as I set the surround monitors in a similar effect I have no stutter in any games. Worst thing I get is lower fps than I would like sometimes. As for witcher no, average is a smooth 60fps with occasional dips in very graphically heavy areas but no stutter.

The fix is up: http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2018/09/batman-arkham-knight-dx11.html There are still some know issues, so read that part. This game generate shaders like crazy....so using Regex in this game was the only way to fix this game....a shader by shader would have taken forever....this is a 4.000+ shader fix game and with the Regex i implemented i manually fix like 90 (10 of them been HUD). Enjoy!!! i know there are some people (including me) who have waited 3 years for this fix.
