Pop Out LCD or Projector
I am still waiting for my Alienware, so using a Crt, really dont see any pop-out, am i going to see much pop-out with the alienware or is a projector the best for pop-out, i read here that someone using a acer projector running the geo-forms screensaver said he had the bubble's hovering above the coffe table

I have tried games, movies, trailers with this crt and nothing really

There is not much pop out in games, the geoforms demo gives some illusion of pop out. However, probably not what you are imagining. It's 3d, not a hologram. The nVidia 3d test video has better pop out than geoforms imo.

Projectors don't have ghosting issues and allow you to crank depth more than LCD's and CRT's. They are not going to give you magical pop out images though.

Projection all the way if popout is your concern. It's the screen size that directly effects amount of popout percieved.

I have mine running on an approx 107" screen and sitting about 11' away. The NVidia logo on the 3D test with convergence adjusted and depth maxed out flies out around 3-4' from the screen. When I have friends over, I always sit about 2 feet from the screen so they can see how it looks like the logo is literally flying past over my head and hovering over my legs. Its an amazing illusion...

Geoforms has its moments, unfortunaly alot of the bubbles edges hit the screen edge. When any graphic with a popout convergence level touches the edge of the screen, the 3D illusion is lost instantly. Thats another reason why small monitors suffer so badly.

When you have a large screen, most of your FOV is all screen allowing the illusion to happen.

If you have the means and room for the Acer... GET IT! :)

I wasnt expecting Shrek 4D like at the theme parks or IMAX pop out, where you have birds flying above your head or pop out that hits you in the face or you think you can touch, that would be absolutley awsome, but i am hoping for some pop out like the adds for Nvidia and Alienware show (i think i am expecting to much) damn those adds

Soon as money allows projector is next on the list

Basically to get and notice pop out the smaller the screen the closer you need to sit to the screen to enjoy the pop out :( having most of your field of view being covered by the screen is the important part.

Popout is controllable with the 3d settings. It doesnt matter what the display is. Bigger screens have more popout, just because they are bigger. Its all relative. If something pops out 1 inch on a 20 inch screen, it will pop out further on a big screen relative to its size. If you have zero popout on a small screen, you get zero popout on a huge screen. So, if you are not seeing any with your small screen. Thats pretty much it.

With 3d vision, you can always mess with the settings to get popout. Just go to the 3d vision settings and go to the "Set keyboard shortcuts", enable advanced settings, and when you are in a game, you can change the convergence. To get an idea of how much popout, just put your hand on the display and you can tell what is in front or behind the screen. Popout isnt totally obvious sometimes. It appears that the image is not popping out, but when you touch the screen you can tell how far off the screen it is.

ANY screen can do popout. This isnt anything new, or drivers or technology, it ALWAYS has worked. CRTs... anything You just have to know what you are doing with the setting. You can have the biggest display known to man and if you have the settings wrong, you will get zero popout. No go and sin no more.

Convergence: is where your left and right eye converge (meet) on the screen, to bring things into focus, like a first person shooter so the gun isnt ghosting or blury.
True or False ??

Depth: would control pop-out, the more depth the less pop-out, things are deeper in the background less chance of pop-out. True or False ??

Best way to set Depth and Convergence is depth to about 80% adjust convergence so the gun is in focus and then lower depth.
