IFA 2015
As GibsonRed pointed out in another thread, Acer announced a Predator Projector. It will use short throw, achieving a 120 inch screen at a distance of 50 cm/20 inches. It will also be using a laser light source. It is unknown if it will support 3D. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-9_Myrvpdc Optoma's HD28DSE will have an integrated DARBEE Visual Presence and is 3D capable. http://www.wtvm.com/story/29933054/darbeevision-licenses-darbee-visual-presence-to-world-class-dlp-manufacturer For those of you unfamiliar with DarbeeVision https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwrtdJAb-gA http://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-HD28DSE.htm In this video of Acers booth, you can see a bezelless surround monitor, no idea if it will support 3D. I haven't came across any others, but JVC has announced that several of their new projectors will be capable of 18Gbps over HDMI, which can deliver full spec native 4K signals such as 4K60p 4:4:4, 4K60p 4:2:2/36bit and 4K24p 4:4:4/36bit. http://www.jvc.co.uk/article.php?id=100597&catid=48 JVC uses "e-shift" technology. I'm not sure, but to me it seems pretty much the same as wobulation. http://alienryderflex.com/e-shift/ No word yet if they will support 3D. But if they do, both 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 would be possible at 120Hz. Also if e-shift is the same as wobulation, it might be capable of checkerboard at 3840x2160i@60Hz, just like some of the Mitsubishi TVs that used wobulation Last year's video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42ZaJOuPhQ0

The projector looks interesting. I really want to know what resolution and what ports are on it. Might be the first projector to be able to do 1080p 60Hz 3D gaming or higher! Being a laser as well is a bonus. I just hope it has 24p and other film formats. The Acer PG348Q 34" also looks mega but to be honest I'll stick with my samsung UHD590D 4k monitor and Panasonic PTAE6000E 1080p 3D projector and buy a Steam/HTC Vive if I can get one in October. I really hope all this kit is 3D capable though (and whilst using SLI) it would be a crying shame if it didn't!

Kraine from Projector Home Cinema in France says that he thinks the Acer Predator Projector is a modified version of the DreamVision UST25 shown back in June. EDIT: BTW Kraine confirmed the the Acer Projector is 3D, but said that he couldn't get any more info from the Acer reps at IFA I sure hope Acer offers something better, because the UST25 isn't anything special, minus the laser. It would be awesome if the Acer Projector supported 1920x1080@120Hz via Display port. A 2x2 video wall would allow 4K frame sequential gaming @ 60 per eye. Of course it would most likely require that AMD Radeon GPUs be used, since Nvidia only allows 3 + 1 setups on their consumer GPUs AFAIK.

Doesn't look very promising after reading those articles. How hard is it to put a display port of hdmi 2 connector on a projector that doesn't cost £5000 and upwards? Still can't believe no one has done it yet. I'm going to wait for VR and get 4k projector when someone brings one out other than Sony. I'm not too keen on this JVC eshift tech. When UHDbluray films come out later this year is when we'll see some real upgrades to projectors and the likes. Not many people are going to buy a 4k projector when there's no content to watch. I heard it was Texas Instruments holding the 4k licensing back but I'm not sure on that one. EDIT: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/68-digital-projectors-under-3-000-usd-msrp/2048466-affordable-4k-projector.html#/forumsite/3207/topics/2048466

The Acer Predator Z850 is now available for $5000.00 complete with a Laser Light source and a 21:9 resolution of 1920x720. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/acer-predator-z850-gaming-projector,31506.html Being that it's a DLP, it should be capable of 120Hz. 3D could be a problem if it doesn't have DLP Link Flash which would rule out TriDef. 3D Vision so far doesn't support 21:9 but it might be hackable. I did 17:9 before in WoW using CRU on driver 309.00, but a later driver wouldn't let me do it. But come on Acer, 1920x720 WTF???

lol messing around, I logged into a WoW starter account after making a custom resolution of 1920x720 on my VG278HE and it worked in 3D with 2 inch black bars on the top and bottom. It was 25 inches corner to corner on the image. Tested on my 42 inch tv and it was 39 inches I definitely liked the 21:9 resolution. 3440x1440 could be really nice in 3D, too bad that 100Hz Asus isn't certified. Can someone with a ROG Swift try 2560x1080. Go to the "Change Resolution" tab of the NVCP with your desktop set to 2560x1440@120 Select "Customize" then select "Create Custom Resolution" Where it says "Automatic", you'll want to change it to "Manual" before doing anything. Now change "Vertical Lines" from 1440 to 1080. Click "Test", then click "Yes" Now set your desktop to this and try a game that allows 21:9.

The Witcher 3 worked, but I had to set it to windowed/borderless windowed mode for proper scaling. My scaling settings are by aspect ratio. Edit: Well, I turned scaling off and Witcher 3 works like a charm in CM mode.

Yah, it's a little small at 25 inches corner to corner. But I'd imagine that it's a little better at 2560x1080 vs the 1920x720 that I tried. I was thinking of trying it on my 55inch 3D HDTV, but I'd have to move things around. It would probably be really good on a 4K display using 3440x1440 unless there's an issue with it not being the full 3840 wide.
