Rainbow Six Vegas
Hey all,

If anyone's planning on picking this up, it does work in Stereo. Although I have only been able to get a subtle effect so far, nothing near the depth you can get in Q4 / FarCry. And an added bonus is that the world looks less brown through the shutter glasses.

A word of warning though, R6 Vegas needs a VERY good pc to run normally, never mind in Stereo. The framerate hit you take when activating stereo isn't too bad though - 22fps no stereo / 16fps with . This is at 1024x768, most ingame settings on low or med / 2.5ghz Athlon64 / 1.5gb ram / 7900GS ( 500 core / 700 mem ).

So if anyone is lucky enough to have a 8800GTS / GTX, this is the game to stress your card with.

I have an 8800GTS and all I can say is that I need a faster CPU. It was the ONLY thing that didn't meet the recommended requirements in the Vegas system test. I can get her at 1280x960 resolution at a high frame rate (haven't tested it yet but I get NO frame lag :) ). I can't wait for the stereo driver to come out for the 8800s!

Yes Kinnikinnick. You are right.
The 'subtle effect' that MoodyB is referring to is as a result of the game engine not being 3D compatible out of the box.

In MoodyB's .jps images, the image being presented to both the left and right eyes is identical.
however...
with stereo separation set above 0% and convergence set suitably low, the flat 2D image can be made to appear at a screen depth greater than the glass on your monitor, which gives it the appearance of 3D.

I have included a couple of images below to illustrate this effect.
(You will have to change the extension from .jpg to .jps as before in order to view these as intended.)

The first example gives the same effect as MoodyB's images

The second image is the same image, but this time in true 3D

Now if you take off your 3D glasses for a moment while still in stereo mode and compare these two examples you will see the following important difference:

With the first image, if you measure the separation* of a 'close' object such as the front left wheel on the car, and a more 'distant' object such as the neon 'C' in the 'Palmont City Motors' sign, the separation value of both objects is identical.

*Separation being the physical distance on your monitor, usually around 0 to 10 cm, between an object in the left eye view, and the same object in the right eye view

With the second image, you will note that the separation of any 'distant' object is greater than that of any 'close' object.
This increase in separation as the object moves into the distance is what gives us the true 3D effect.

I am actually rather embarrassed to admit that this is my first post on either of the stereo forums (here and Stereovision.net) after more than three years of owning E-Dimensional glasses, avidly following the forums and loving stereo gaming, so please accept my apologies if I am preaching to the enlightened :">

So, belated greetings to all the regular posters, as well as thanks for all the enthusiastic and priceless info.

Long may it continue!

Hehe, nice one with Carbon! I can't wait to try it out in 3D when the 8800 driver comes out.

First let me wellcome you to the forums mrbluesguy and congratulating you for those carbon screens.
As for Rainbow, MoodyB, haven't tried the game myself but by the looks of those screens I'd say you have a whole lotta post-processing going on, so try turning off any effects related to that - HDR, bloom, blur some lightning effects.
The easiest way to go if that doesn't work is to turn off everything that can be switched off if then you still aren't getting true stereo, means that you have to edit either the ini/cfg file or the registry, and if then you don't get true stereo means it's time to give up :) and face the music

Damn, Ive tried turning everything off, still no real 3d. Very sad, it might mean that games based on the unreal3 engine wont work in 3d.
I havent tried messing with settings in the ini files or registry, I wouldnt know where to start.
Face the music? Sob, sob.

I am running Vegas with 7600 GT and 93.71 drivers. Sometimes it locks up when I enable stereo, but when it works, it looks quite good and the stereo effect is nice.
I'm running 1024x768.
Looks pretty impressive to me. But maybe I'm just seeing separation and confusing that with true 3d??
