I'm seeing articles about OR all over the place at the moment. Comments are nearly always positive too. I think people are interested.
Oh for sure. They have sold thousands of dev kits, essentially a beta product. It's all positive. But as the creators have said, it is just hardware. Without the software there is not s product. I really want this to succeed, and i think it has a good chance too. I just am also trying to keep some perspective, as i don't want to be dissapointed if it gets little support from game developers. However, other then doom 3 not working on it right now, everything is amazingly positve. Shouldn't the first wave of kits be going out now? Wonder how long it will be before members of 3D forums inc this one get a pair! Quite excited to read user reviews and impressions. This would be an fps player dream. Load me up with plamids and an OR!

All this talk of news and people being interested in OR makes me think I have to quote myself over in the Steam Box thread.
All it'll take is a few people whining about motion sickness and a few articles on big gaming sites "OR IS DEAD, THANK GOD!" and before you know it every little whiny snotty nose punk will be running around crying "OR is dead!" & "it's just a gimmick!" like the little lemmings they are ... cliff's this way! ---> For now it's news, it's keeping those gaming news sites in business ... just like 3D was. And before long someone will quote this quote of your original quote and start referencing each others quotes to create a cluster quote that not only validates all quotes within the quote, but could very well cause the implosion of reality into a quote of infinite mass and density.

Probably 90 percent of non-media excited about the rift never put one on their head. My main problem with the Rift is that so much of the hype is surrounded by people that have no idea how it works. They just assume every game is going to support it let alone developer costs. It would be cool if Bioshock Infinite supported it and ken levine has definetly been getting "peer pressure" to support it. I still doubt it though tbh. First wave should be before month's end. I preordered in Jan. so I doubt im getting soon.

Most people won't set it up properly or take the time to get adjusted to it and wind up blaming it not themselves, we see that enough with 3D already. Hell I love 3D and this type of stuff and even I'm a little reserved about it, I want one and I'll get one if they wind up keeping the $300 price tag but it's not going to replace 3D for me. People complain about putting glasses on to watch a 3D movie or play a game I hardly doubt they're going to be happy with a VR headset. I want it for FPS, though I use the S very lightly. They had better start implementing 'bodies' in OR games. I'm already tired of games without feet, it'll be even worse in VR.

I have to admit, thinking about OR, a lot of people on the 3D hate bandwaggon are gonna start slating OR, just like they slate anything thats not a keyboard and mouse and a 60 hz monitor. Its why products like the Razer Hydra never do very well or get the full support they need, too many gamers are closed minded. I desperately want OR to work, and to be widely accepted, but I can't see whats going to be wildly different this time compared to the 3D formats we already have. I would have thought more people would see 3D as a half-way house between traditional displays and VR, its certainly more immersive than 2D will ever be, but everyone just hates on it for the same old reasons that arent even valid for most users. For anyone who cares about picture quality even buying a normal TV is a problem because nowhere demo's them propperly. Its even worse for 3D gaming and it will be even worse for the OR because you can't compare it to anything else you've tried before, and I bet there won't be anywhere anyone can go to demo it either. At least with 3D gaming you could compare it to the cinema or your mates 3D TV even though there is no comparison - but how can you weigh up the pro's and con's of OR from a review? You would have to spend time with it for a while, or just take peoples word for it and spend the money. I'm perfectly willing to pay £500 for it, I spent almost £1k for my existing 3D setup without ever having seen nvidia 3D before, but I think I (along with most of us here) fit into the enthusiast bracket who are the most likely buyers anyway, but is the enthusiast market big enough to generate Oculus enough income and secure developer support for the future? The last "big new thing" I remember working out in a big way was 3Dfx who made one of the first hardware accellerated gfx boards. I think 3D and VR should be huge markets when the implementation is done correctly, but I bet they are gonna get trolled out of existence by idiots online who don't have a clue about it.

One good thing is there's no cheapo anaglyph version of the Oculus Rift, no red and blue VR. So there's no mistaking OR for anything else, like some people hating on 3D but still thinking of anaglyph 3D, what they played Batman: Arkham Asylum in on their consoles. I was thinking about what eqzitara said earlier about the profile/rating for Bioshock disappearing. That really has me wondering why. It could mean any number of things, like they got strong armed into it for letting the cat out of the bag that it sucked or it could be because it's dead wrong and it looks fantastic ... or because it looks even worse than unrecommended ... I hate being wrong so I'll say it right now ... BIOSHOCK: INFINITE IS EITHER NOT GOING TO RUN AT ALL OR IT'S GOING TO LOOK LIKE UTTER ... UMM POOP IN 3D! P.S. I will [s]begrudgingly[/s] happily admit I was wrong next week if I have to. :D

Oculus Rift unboxing ... crazy, can't wait for this. http://3dvision-blog.com/8835-the-first-oculus-rift-unboxing-video-and-shipping-update/ Not sure how much trouble it'll be to have it hooked up and a monitor at the same time, maybe something like that script I was messing around with when I was helping crimsonnight out might help. Rumor has it that PS3 players are getting 3D (likely FAKE) but that leaves hope that the PC version may not be fubar.

As an enthusiast, theres not gonna be much to do for a long time and stuff added to rift will be more tweaked/optimized for better experience imo.

If bioshock infinite doesnt look good in 3D Vision PLEASE DO NOT spam/pm helix. I really doubt it can be fixed in which case and I am sure he will get more then a few messages regardless. Its kind of terrible/frustrating if there is literally nothing he can do about it. @stryker_66 I actually argue the opposite(not out of spite or anything). I can agree that "TF2 is grounded perspective of the fate of conversions on the rift." TF2 from what Ive read went more then out of its way for its conversion but its not built for the rift. Its got a lot of things that don't work in VR. Like object/player/world ratios not to mention if you measure speed of character you probably move at the speed of a locomotive. Which means its almost like your shooting out of a moving vehicle. Not to mention, I am not sure about gun placement. If its the same as other games on source engine you can see they are not at right depth/depth doesnt work 100% properly on them. I also think its one of those games you cant look down and see your own body/shadow. There are a TON of games which we find amazing because they seem built for 3D but are quickly forgotten by the 2D crowd. Like Trine 2/ dead space series/mirrors edge/ etc (Ive noticed its a lot of hudless games which kind of says something). While a game could still be a great conversion such as Max Payne 3(yeah, I said it) and it really offers little to it. The main reason why I worry about conversions is that every issue we have in 3D vision is multiplied by VR. Smooth framerate, low framerate, motion blur, depth of field, weapon displacement, gun sight aiming, field of vision. The list goes on.
