hm, tried this "front door"-thing today morning but was not impressed tbh. Somehow everything looked a little flat and again absolutely no "pop-out". The whole experience reminded me a lot of my Sony HMZ-T1......will get back to Surround /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

One of my biggest complaints with the Sony (other then picture quality) was that no matter what convergence settings I used, I couldn't get any popout. The image would get closer but not pop out. I thought about it and I don't think it's possible to get pop out on the HMD because there IS NO SCREEN, NO BORDER. I guess it's more like real like where there is no such thing as pop out. I loved playing games like Trine, Rayman, Diablo 3, etc where most of the game comes out of the screen to play out on your desk. I believe peeps call this toyification, and you won't get that on a HMD.

absolutely right. You won't get any pop-out with the HMZ because the HMZ-display doesn’t have a clearly identifiable frame from which objects that come towards you would be percepted as pop-outs by your eyes. So while the pop-out is there you just don’t identify it as such because your eyes have no frame they could reference to. On the one hand this is positive because the HMZ really puts you into the action, so you experience a more natural 3D effect. But on the other hand – I miss the WOW factor because I really love those pop-out effects and especially the toyification effect!
And that is the reason why I have mixed feelings about the future of HMDs when it comes to my personal preference. I guess that HMDs are intentionally built in a way that you won't see an identifiable frame for the picture because it adds to the overall feeling of immersion and gives you a more natural 3D effect. Unfortunately that also means NO POP-OUT!
