Star Wars: The Old Republic Works very well in 3D!
1 / 2
Finally they dropped the NDA and I can actually start talking. Yes, this game works well in 3D. It isn't perfect. The character nameplates are all stuck at screen depth, the pointer is stuck in 2D, and there are a few graphical errors here and there. In general, though, it works VERY well. Just make sure to turn it off when dialogs start or you'll get somebody's back popping a foot out of the screen and learn to use tab to select your targets.
Some screenshots here: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/Zloth/album/4ec70366378501d2400000a8/page/2/
(There are some light spoilers in there. It's just about impossible to avoid spoilers like who your companions will be and what planets you'll see in a game like this.)

Looks very nice. One of the games I'm very much looking forward to.
We can't fix your bug if we can't reproduce it. Please provide as much details as possible including specs, steps to reproduce, graphics settings used, etc..

First of all, you seem to have to get in the game itself to get it started. The character selection screen won't cut it.
Once you're in, go to the options and switch the game over to Windowed mode and 120Hz. Apply it so the game actually switches. Then switch the game to exclusive full-screen mode. That should cause 3D to kick in. You'll almost certainly want to play with the convergence and save the settings via the NVIDIA driver's hotkeys so make sure the 'advanced' options are turned on.
After that it works fine. You won't have to do this again unless you uninstall the game and install it again.
I doubt we'll need to do this once we get an NVIDIA profile in the drivers. The default convergence will likely be a lot closer to sanity, too.

I was able to participate in one of the game tests about a month ago and wasn't able to get 3D Vision to work. I didn't spend that much time messing with it though, and since it was only a weekend and I was splitting time playing, I just didn't fuss with it that much.
I could see it being good in 3D Vision with the usual nameplate/cursor issues, but the graphics and especially textures of the game were really lackluster imo (I guess I can say that now that NDA is up). I got an email about another upcoming Beta, so I'll get to see if they improved the graphics at all (especially character models). Zloth have you seen any improvement in graphics from build to build?

Well if we can talk about it now .. I'll say the only thing I didn't like was the controls .. I got used to them and can understand they are the way the are .. but I just wish I was able to freely move the mouse to control the camera .. instead of holding the left click button down on the mouse for free camera movement. Other then that I really enjoyed what I got to play.

Not really, no, other than unfinished textures getting added to the game.
The graphics of the game aren't very impressive at all. The ARTWORK, however, is another matter. It varies from planet to planet but some of those places really impressed me. I'm pretty sure a lot of those people could make awesome art with one of those $5 water color kits we had as kids.

I saw LOTRO in the same way. Graphics weren't so great, but since the artists did such a great job for the most part, it still looked amazing.
What size monitor do you have Zloth, i have to back up a few feet to see your screenshots correctly?
Btw: is 3DTV Play ever going to view webpages or 3D Vision Live? To view screenshots, I have to enable 3D Vision, go onto that site, download each photo, then load up the photo viewer, open the screenshots in the photo viewer from the menu, swap eyes and then press fullscreen.

Ah I see. Sad to hear. The graphics are by far the most lackluster aspect of the game, but should not come as a huge surprise as Bioware games have never really been known for their graphics. The character models were probably the most appalling though, I mean Dragon Age and even Mass Effect had some pretty awkward looking character models but you would think Bioware would have done a better job given the flexibility and creative license aliens provide.
I do agree though that some of the environments and level design are excellent, but pretty disappointed overall with the visuals especially since the Hero Engine is capable of much more. I think I'm in the upcoming weekend test though, downloading the new client now, so I'll get to see if there's much improvement.

Wow, surprised to hear that since I was always very impressed by LOTRO's visuals. Really detailed textures (with high-res texture pack), nice use of transparencies, shader and particle effects and TONS of graphic settings, easily the best looking MMO when it was released in 2007 and still holds up well today. It was also one of the first titles to support DX10, which added quite a bit to the visuals with the soft shadows, dynamic lighting, and soft water edges. It really taxed my single 8800GTX, showed constant improvement with 1 and then a 2nd GTX 280 and only ran completely smooth 60+ in PvMP once I upgraded to GTX 480s in SLI.

Yeah, i was impressed too, i just think the textures, level design and color choice were really made the game look how it did. To me, the shadows, shading and lightning seemed pretty standard. So in other words, i think in that artists were the ones to bring it up so many notches, with obviously the support of the coders, etc.
I think this video demonstrates my point pretty well. Hes in dx9 though going by the hard water line, but thats basically how i remember it.

Yeah, it's touchy for some reason.

So it DOESNT work well. That really sucks :( Was planning on buying a new monitor with 3dvision2 and a new GPU for this game but now... the head of Bioware thinks 3D is a gimmick so I doubt they will ever make it work properly.

46" Samsung ES7500 3DTV (checkerboard, high FOV as desktop monitor, highly recommend!) - Metro 2033 3D PNG screens - Metro LL filter realism mod - Flugan's Deus Ex:HR Depth changers - Nvidia tech support online form - Nvidia support: 1-800-797-6530
Yeah, it's touchy for some reason.

Yes, this game works well in 3D. The character nameplates are all stuck at screen depth, the pointer is stuck in 2D, and there are a few graphical errors here and there. Just make sure to turn it off when dialogs start or you'll get somebody's back popping a foot out of the screen and learn to use tab to select your targets.

So it DOESNT work well. That really sucks :( Was planning on buying a new monitor with 3dvision2 and a new GPU for this game but now... the head of Bioware thinks 3D is a gimmick so I doubt they will ever make it work properly.
