Is nVidia really the way it was meant to be played ... in 3D?
2 / 2
I have tridef too, but I only got it because I was well into Rift at the time, and that game is broken completely for nvidia 3D. I've tried to use Tridef for some other games and its either broken, or the FPS hit is absolutely terrible and borderline unplayable.

No worries! I guess I was feeling a bit defensive yesterday after a crappy day at work! I'll just keep my fingers crossed that Helix and co. dont get bored of providing fixes any time soon, or that nvidia pull something special out of their hat :-)

@Foulplay99!
No problem mate, I shouldent go on like that as it surely wont help us but it feels damn good sometimes to let off some steam but in the end no good will come out of it!
Yeah Helix works are awesome...
Atleast things are looking good for the future with the Oculus Rift and so, heck maybe nvidia will try to buy them out, that would be something right haha!

I'm not particularly disappointed with how 3D looks in games that work (i.e. at least a "good" Nvidia rating). With my old, but trusty Samsung 2233 I experienced heavy ghosting issues back in 2010 with Resident Evil 5 or Battlefield Bad Company 2, but subsequent driver releases have softened the problem a lot and it was almost absent on games like Witcher 2, Batman AC, Alice MR and quite a lot of other stuff.
My biggest disappointment right now is with the lack of 3D Vision support in the vast majority of recent and upcoming games. Everything was reasonably fine until Max Payne 3, then nothing all of a sudden. In a way I think I understand Nvidia's way: for almost three years they wanted to promote their technology, so they "worked" with developers to "convince" them to enable it in their games (subtle ways to say they gave them $$ to get the job done). After that, they probably thought it was time for 3D Vision to walk on its own legs and we all know the result. Developers don't put extra features for free, because PC gamers are "cheap, bastard pirates" and blah, blah, blah.
Their recent love for Dx 11 is due to the fact that the next F-Box will use it, so they're using PC as a learning platform. Check that damned BS Infinite forum for details.
Some of you keep saying how AMD (ATI's dead) is doing much better than Nvidia. Really? They have gotten serious with their Gaming Evolved program in an effort to raise their financial results, but I don't see much HD3D stuff coming out of it. Yes, they are "sponsoring" Tridef (more like they have their money on it), which increases 3D compatibility a lot (if you like the results, I don't) and works with single Nvidia cards as a side effect, but I don't like the fact that you have to pay for it. One spends money for a compatible monitor, glasses and stuff only to have 10 games which may work. If they want more they have to spend extra money. Nice way of respecting your customers! At least Nvidia started with a more than good compatibility list which didn't require more bucks.
However, the main issue remains: no new 3D games on the horizon (maybe Crysis 3 and its software 3D) except those modded by Helix and friends. Btw, thanks to Eqzitara for Borderlands 2, as the mod works well even on my Geforce 690.

I broke down and gave the TriDef 15-day trial a shot. So far it's been a mixed bag. For instance Deadlight works much better than using 3D Vision but there's these "spots" when the camera/view is panning that cause this odd shift in view, it's very slight but extremely distracting. I tried Fable: The Lost Chapters another bad one in 3D Vision, it was even worse using TriDef's setting's for the game, everything diasappearing as you aproach, but it was perfect, as far as I could tell, using the Generic setting. Anna was another one that worked well with the Generic setting, although not so well with the fake 3D setting, Power 3D. Although Power 3D seems to be the only way to get Bioshock to work well with either 3D Vision or TriDef. Even disabling all the recommended options in 3D Vision Bioshock still looks like crap, odd shadows-like glitches everywhere, halos, etc, in TriDef everything looks much better except there's this odd flickering on certain objects. At this point I'm not sure about spending $50 for the software to get a few games working and an option for fake 3D, all stuff that 3D Vision should already be doing. I think my biggest problems with it, other than I shouldn't NEED it to begin with, is that it's tied to one PC's hardware configuration and that, as far as I know, you NEED 3D Vision to be activated to even use it.

I hate the fact that we have to choose. In the past i had an nvidiacard for compability with nvidia stereodrivers. I also purchased both the iz3d-driver as well as tridef ignition. That way i could choose the best experience (which indeed is a mixed bag because all drivers works different) for a specific game.

As much as I'm not a fan of fake 3D, or "Power 3D" as they're calling it, at least TriDef does have that option. I started just trying any and every game I could think of that I had that didn't work well with 3D Vision with TriDef's 3D driver and then I stumbled across Power 3D when trying Bioshock ... now I just can't stop playing it in fake 3D. It doesn't add the depth of actual 3D, seems locked at about 20% which is about 1/3 of what I usually use on my 65" DLP, but it is so much better than playing in 2D.
You know what's going to happen here don't you? I'm going to break down and buy TriDef and then nVidia will do a huge update on 3D Vision adding an option for fake 3D and fixing all the games that only work with TriDef ... :D
