Optoma UHD 40 / 50 3D Vision Projector (1920x1080 @120Hz)
  4 / 13
Thanks, I got an emitter today, and you are absolutely right, it's a must have to play 3d bluray movies. Also please note that only works in the Stereosopic Player, and it does not works in the Powerdvd. One more thing, someone in the other forum mentioned that it would not work if you have an AVR between the pc and projector, that is not accurate, it works with my denon in between. 3d movie is also beautiful, 3d effect looks better than my previous ht1075.

Do I need the Nvidia Vision emitter to watch 3d Blurays on the UHD50?
This is a brilliant question! Now that you ask I remember that the guy from AVS forum who first confirmed that this projector works with 3D Vision also mentioned something like this that he made 3D movies work with stereoscopic player without the emitter! I'll test this out and update this guide here if this indeed works! For gaming you definitely need the emitter (there is no other way) but if you want to watch 3D movies only there might be a workaround! Like always I'll make a step by step instruction how to set up Stereosopic Player.
Hmm ok now you make me unsure :D. For me MKV 3D movies work with Power DVD 18. But the emitter is required to make this work. However I cannot currently test if 3D blurays work as well because I don't have a single one here. But in the past (2-3 years ago) I tried a 3D bluray and it worked. But I'm not 100% sure if this was with Win DVD or Power DVD. I thought it was Power DVD but maybe I am wrong. But with one software or the other it 100% worked. I never used any other video player for 3D than these 2. So there are only 2 options: A) 3D does not work with your Power DVD software because it's not the "Ultra" version. The "Pro" and "Standard" version do not support 3D B) You tried 3D blurays only with Power DVD and those are generally not supported by Power DVD The website of Power DVD doesn't really tell if 3D blurays are supported or not. It just says that we need the "Ultra" version for 3D movies.
The Stereoscopic works with the Emitter, does not work without for Bluray 3d (media)
With "Stereoscopic" you mean "Stereocopic Player"? This one actually does not support blurays at all. It only supports MKV 3D movies or 3D DVDs. Or did you make it work somehow with blurays? I just got it working through my AVR as well. It is a newer model, but about the cheapest Atmos capable one out there. Pioneer VSX1131. First I set up 3D directly connected to the projector (I will get back to this in a minute). Then when I changed connections to go through the AVR it was all messed up. PowerDVD told me it stopped playing in 3D because I had switched to a different display. I simply needed to go back and change all the Display settings to what was done originally for the Projector and do the same thing for the AVR which the PC now recognizes as the display. i.e. change to 120Hz and Stereosopic to generic CRT. Then it all worked! I also needed to change the color settings again as well. My AVR was previously set to upscale to 4K which I also turned off. Now regarding setting up the projector for 3D. I have done this twice. I did it earlier with a 1060 card, then I needed to do it again tonight with my upgraded 1080 card. In both cases I wasn't able to go through the instructions as listed. When getting to point 6 and trying to select Stereosopic, the screen just flashes back and forth black screen to a fuzzy Nvidia control panel. The only way I could get this to work was to connect it to a different monitor instead, and then from that the wizard would start. It then takes me through a test and wants me to select what I see with my left eye and right eye etc. (because it didn't recognize that other monitor as 3D because it isn't! From watching a youtube I knew what to select, well this time I needed to guess a couple of times and it got me through and then I could select Generic CRT and have it work on the Projector. I think the instructions only work for people who have their GPU previously set up for 3D through some other device. I haven't been able to get it to work starting directly with the projector. Perhaps the 3D fix manager would work, but I haven't downloaded or tried it yet. This is my first foray into 3D, so I have no knowledge how to do this stuff. But really appreciate the help and guidelines given here! I had noticed the screen looked washed out, had no idea to go into the Nvidia settings and make the changes. They really help! I don't know anything about how the depth is supposed to look. Couldn't I just change the depth setting on the Nvidia settings instead of needing to download and work with the depth manager? Regarding other video players working with 3D. I have Nvidias Video Player and it works for 3D. I don't know where I got it. It was recent. I have only started messing with this stuff in the last month. I believe I got it from Nvidia's site, but I really don't recall, I was so confused in the beginning. lol.

Hi MNFlyingBoat, I must admit that I didn't actually try to pass the 3D Vision setup wizard. I had formerly just done the quick setup with 3D Fix Manager and it was already enabled. So I wrote down what I remembered you should see and select in the wizard. Today I just checked if the steps actually work and they are indeed very problematic! First - when starting the setup wizard I had a black screen - nothing was displayed any more. I had to press CTRL + ALT + DEL and did a system restart. For the second try I changed resolution to 1920x1080 @120hz before executing the wizard. Now I had a picture but the setup wizard - stupid as it was - changed resolution to 60 hz resolution. So after reaching the medical test where you have to select the left and right image this of course did not work with 60hz lol! So at this point the user has to guess what to select. I have to say those issues are not happening for my 3D Vision monitor. But Nvidia really screwed up the process for Generic CRTs. I can only recommend to use 3D Fix Manager and bypass all this hassle! With it you can skip the setup wizard and enable 3D with one click. (I have described how to do the activation with 3D Fix Manager below the other guide.) Acutally the setup wizard only sets 3 entries in the Windows registry - two entries for the IR setting (single IR, multiple IR or Lan environment) which are not needed for the projector anyway as we use DLP sync. And another entry which just tells that the setup wizard was successfully completed. Concerning 3D depth it's just optional to correct this via 3D Fix Manager but I highly recommend this. Of course you can leave it as it is and just use 20%-30% 3D depth. Setting the 3D depth slider via CTRL + F4 higher than that ingame will make your eyes explode ;D. Increasing or decreasing the 3D depth with CTRL + F3 / F4 happens in big steps if you don't optimize via 3D Fix Manager. So you cannot really finetune 3D depth then. Nvidia in their endless wisdom don't allow us to set the projector / monitor screen size in Nvidia Control Panel. Instead we have to create a registry entry called "monitorSizeOverride" where we can correct this. Tsabeht was the one who found out about this registry entry! So all credits go to him. I only provide a user friendly way to set this correction via 3D Fix Manager. Hmm and concerning Nvidia stereoscopic player - ok maybe we can still download it somewhere. But it seems that it's not bundled any more with the driver by default.

Thanks for your help again. I downloaded the 3D Fix Manager and did the size setup as you recommended. You mention something about when you start games through 3D Fix Manager they will have the correct depth. Do movies or games somehow now need to be started through 3D Fix Manager? Also, another topic. I notice with my 1080 card I can only set 4K to 30Hz is that normal? I thought Nvidia cards can support up to 60hz. My 4k firestick outputs 60 Hz through my AVR. I bring this up because Netflix will only Transmit 4K if it detects the monitor supports 60hz. If I have it connected to HDMI1 it only does HD, but HDMI2 it will do 4K and list it as so on the Netflix preview. If I use both ports out from my AVR and connect to both HDMI1 and 2 on the Projector it sets both inputs to only HD. Netflix must be sensing the lowest available refresh rate and set to only output HD, even on the HDMI2 monitor. Now, what is strange is I installed the Netflix App on my Windows 10 PC, from their it shows 4K going through to both inputs. So perhaps Netflix isn't limiting the 4K to 60Hz on Windows app? or it isn't displaying the correct resolution. Not sure which it is.

No, unfortunately the screen size correction only applies to 3D games. The screen size for movies is always wrong no matter if you use a 3D Vision monitor, TV or projector. It's hardcoded into the movie and only optimized for cinemas. That means cinemas have a pretty good 3D depth while 27" monitors have a very poor 3D depth. It's not adopting to the screen size. Gladly on projectors 3D depth is very good. The greater the projector screen size - the better. If you can't set 4k @ 60 hz this might have one of these reasons: [olist] [.]You are not using a HDMI 2.0 cable (I also first tried my old HDMI capble which I bought 5 years ago and it did not work with this resolutions and refresh rate)[/.] [.]You haven't plugged in the HDMI into the correct port of your projector. The only reasonable explanation for this is that they give a shit on Windows 10 users + 4k because this is only 0,1% of their customers.

Here is what Netflix wrote on the FAQ (German):

Netflix in Ultra-HD

Great, and you are an amazing source of information. Thanks! Do you think that Codec was required for the Windows Netflix App as well as watching Netflix through browser? The app before the codec was installed showed sources as Ultra 4K, as I said on both the HDMI1 and 2 input. The browser doesn't show the resolution. So perhaps it was saying it was 4K but not actually transmitting it as far as I know, particularly because it also said it was 4K when I would switch to the 30Hz input. Anyway code is installed now, so I will have it regardless. Also, I disconnected HDMI1 connection from my AVR, rebooted with just HDMI2 connected and I see now it comes up with 4K at 60Hz. So this must have been similar to Netflix on my firestick, Windows as well only went to 30Hz because one of the outputs from my AVR was going to the 30Hz input.

8. If 3D Vision isn't set up yet a setup wizard is automatically started. Choose 3D Vision there (not anaglyph) and complete the wizard. If it's already configured just make sure "Generic CRT" is selected from the list. I can only select HDMI checkerboard. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wk9unhj48k0h5uo/3d.PNG?dl=0
