[quote="foreverseeking"]Yeah I have to say that saying the VG278H wasn't as good as a 1st gen TV with tons of ghosting is a little miss leading. I play in my study, and very close to my monitor. If you play in your lounge, or further away from your screen then sure, always get a TV or even better (for 3d) a projector. If you are looking for a monitor for your PC though (for work) that also does 3D, you can't do much better then the Asus. Nothing worse then having to physically move your head to look at another column on a spread sheet.

Misleading? Its exactly how i feel in most games. Only in BF3 and L.A. Noire, with their long viewing distances, which is critical in BF3, did the VG278H win out. But that was before i got a Samsung with checkerboard, which has eliminated any real "need" for full 1080p. Furthermore, its my feeling that the small size of available 3D displays is one of the key reasons for the relatively slow 3D uptake. To me its just not very impressive in that size [the largest monitor size] unless i pressed my face up against the 27" screen to give myself a larger FOV, but then i ran into a weird sort-of pixellation effect from the polarization screen. I even put off Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex: HR, Skyrim for over a year [!] and others because i couldn't bring myself to use the VG278H, it was just too much of a compromise. On the other hand, i didn't want to use my old Sony NX711 46" either largely to the 720p limitation. But now that i have the checkerboard display my problem has mostly been solved. Checkerboard is really great. Not perfect, but very good, a clear step above 720p [in most cases]. On top of that, the Samsungs have an almost unbelievably small "screen door effect", aka, the grid made up of the area in between the pixels is super tiny, giving it the ability to be brought very close and still look amazing. To give an idea of how much better this is than Sony's displays, when i first got the Samsung, i had to position it closer to me than my Sony, which was disappointing at first since i didn't want to increase the visibility of the pixel grid. Well......now i've brought it even closer than that and its surprisingly still looking good.

Well, a follow up. I did get myself a VG23AH, and as promised, the 3D was pretty awful. Not because of the low res or being "grainy" but because of the loads of crosstalk. It's said you have to view at the correct angle to avoid the crosstalk, but no, it's always there, it's just that if you're out of the sweet spot it gets so bad you can barely even see the 3D anymore.
Would've been usable as a 2D monitor but a large part of the screen was all greyed over with a glow. I guess it's what's called "backlight bleed". Oh well, looks like I'll be sticking with 2D monitors until someone makes a 3D IPS with no crosstalk. It really is a dealbreaker for me with 3D stuff. I'll probably try for a projector again, but I was likely going to do that anyways. The 3D experience on a projector really is something to behold, I just didn't didn't like the picture quality on the GT750 I tried, or I didn't use the proper settings, whatever.
There is also the Playstation 3D monitor, which people seem to have had some issues with. But that might be worth a shot if nothing else is going to cut it for me 3D-monitor-wise. What are the opinions of the crosstalk on that one?

Apparently it involves some messing around to make it work. You must be really sensitive to crosstalk, or playing nothing but Mirror's Edge - I rarely notice any. You're not leaving it at default brightness/contrast settings, are you?

Heh, funnily enough, Mirror's Edge was one of the games I spent the most time testing. Also Alice 2, which seemed to be just as bad. Highly contrasted stuff is most of what I play.
Monitor had to go back anyways though. The backlight bleed on mine was severe, like a quarter of the screen. Totally would've kept it if not for that.
And what involves messing around to work? Getting rid of crosstalk? I turned off the "trace free" as suggested and that definitely helped but it was still really bad from any angle and at any contrast/brightness/etc setting.

I have the contrast around 60, and usually drop in-game brightness settings a bit. Mirror's edge is terrible for crosstalk - it's easily the worst game, cause of all the high contrast. To make it playable, I need to drop the brightness to the minimum while outdoors, and step it up inside/at night.
With that much white, avoiding crosstalk is almost impossible, especially at high separation.

I honestly barely noticed any difference at all when changing the contrast.
Earlier you said you were using VG278H (an active monitor), are you sure we're talking about the same thing here?

46" Samsung ES7500 3DTV (checkerboard, high FOV as desktop monitor, highly recommend!) - Metro 2033 3D PNG screens - Metro LL filter realism mod - Flugan's Deus Ex:HR Depth changers - Nvidia tech support online form - Nvidia support: 1-800-797-6530
