Sport genre - yes, I should have included that! There have been a few good suggestions about omissions I made, but I think it's too late to add anything, as so many people have already voted using the existing ones.
Hey, how about we don't judge people for playing the kinds of games they enjoy? That's probably one of the things that puts women off the kinds of games we like.
Especially since the games we play are so easy to judge themselves. We fight monsters by clicking a mouse, we mass murder people by the thousand, and/or we play as man who dress up as a giant bat, or women who wear metal bikinis. I don't think we're in any position to be accusing other people's games of being stupid!

Yes, great suggestions.
The free version of surveymonkey only allows 10 questions, and there were already a couple more I would have liked to ask, like "do you use the forums while at work/home", or "do you work in a 3D-related field", or "do you use Tridef", etc.
Perhaps I'll make a second survey some other time, or someone else can do one (I'll update the first post if so)

One surprise to me at this point, only 10% use a 3D TV. Nearly 70% use 3D Vision monitors of some kind. 20% use projectors, which is some combination of 3D Vision and 3DTV Play.
I would have thought that the advent of 3D TVs would have significantly bolstered the number of people using Nvidia 3D. If you happen to buy a 3D TV and happen to have a PC, it's only $40 for 3DTV Play. I more or less found myself here for that reason. With the advent of 3D TVs, Sony pushed for 3D games on the PS3. I was already into projectors at that point, and the idea of playing Shadows of the Colossus in 3D was too tempting, so I got an Acer H5360BD. Then when 3D PS3 games dried up a few months later, I got a gaming PC to pick up the slack. I had little awareness of 3D PC games before 3D TVs, HDMI 1.4 projectors, and PS3 3D games arrived.
And still 100% male. Did you know that women have better color perception than men, as well as more sensitive ears and noses? And yet it's men who become audiophiles and videophiles. Why would men strive to have the best when they can't even appreciate it as much as women? Perhaps it's just a simple desire to show off, to show that we have the best tools available, in order to attract a mate. Not a conscious desire to do so of course, but a side effect of instinct molded by millions of years of natural selection. If we think there is a better version of something we know we like, we can't help but want it. Therefore Upgradeitis is a genetic condition, rather than a viral infection.
But again I'm just throwing out a quick hypothesis here. Not intended as a statement of fact nor as a well thought out belief.

Yyyyyep. Totally agree with this. If someone enjoys smartphone games, let em play without judgement.

I think examples like this just highlight the futility of jumping to quick conclusions about cause and effect. Having better spatial awareness doesn't guarantee being more interested in 3D gaming any more than having a big head guarantees a fondness for hats. In my experience, most things are shaped by a complex web of inter-related factors rather than one big factor.

OK, there have been 100 responses now, so without further ado, let me introduce the typical 3Dvision forum member:
Hi. I'm 36 years old, and I'm male. Very male*. Like, I probably have hair covering my shoulders, am borderline Asperger's, and my name is probably something like Butch or Chuck or Biff. I live in an English-speaking Western country, though I have quite a few European friends.
I play almost all of my games in 3D, using 2D only reluctantly. I love my 3D monitor, though I'm considering getting a projector.
I love shooters and RPGs, and am also partial to open-world sandbox games. But my favourite genre of all is the 3rd-person action game. I tend to play games with keyboard+mouse (I prefer the fancy l33t gaming kind), but I'm almost as likely to use a gamepad. From time to time, I'll play a racing game, and I may even use a racing wheel on those occasions.
I play about 1-3 hours of games each day. Though I've heard that some people play for 7 hours or more a day, and part of me is a little jealous. I play on PC, of course, though I have a smattering of other devices I sometimes use, like my PS3, Wii, or Android device for example. I have been a very slow adopter of new-gen consoles.

Definitely, I'm sure there's no one big factor. My intention hasn't been to jump to conclusions, rather to just brainstorm some possible factors. I'm sure there are cultural factors as well, which unlike biological can be flexible. Evidently not a popular topic for discussion though. Sociobiology is one of my interests, but I guess this is what happens when one expresses a niche interest on a niche hobby board!
Interesting, but somewhat unsurprising. Thanks for doing this!
I agree. Pretty predictable all around, except perhaps for just how absolute the gender bias is.
Since doing the survey, I keep thinking of more interesting questions (in addition to the very good ones suggested by others here). Some more I've thought of: "do you actively read gaming news sites?" "do you game with friends/family/solo", "do you play multiplayer?", "do you go to game conferences?"
(plus I totally forgot to include MMO as a genre...that's personal bias because I've never played one so I just forgot they exist.)
But I probably won't do another survey. So if someone else wants to, be my guest (and I can link it in the first post if you want)

Sorry, I probably jumped a little early there. I've just seen too many comment/forum threads devolve into bashing the sims and farmville (and the people who play them), and moving from there to denigrating an entire gender. I know people here aren't likely to sink to those levels, but I wanted to make an effort to head it off just in case.

No worries, Pirateguybrush! I knew what you meant.
I'm a little worried that we're getting too PC, too worried about how what we're saying is interpreted. The fun and carefree nature of this forum has been exchanged for a defensive mission oriented gloom. Perhaps.
