How bad is Dead Space 2 in 3D? It may only be £3.75 but that's £3.75 wasted if 3D is no good.

Its a great game for $5 no matter what, even in 2D. But not worth playing in 3D Vision imo. It is actually playable however with DDD but the performance is atrocious, just like pretty much every game with DDD. Instead of cutting your FPS in half, its more like cutting performance in a quarter with DDD.

I actually thought it was ok in 3d if you turn depth one notch up from minimum and increase convergence until the player is out if the screen a bit. Cracking game either way and I guarantee you'd jump out if your skin a few times. Buy it.

Thats strange, i don't have any performance problems with DS2, but the amount of anomalies i find to be too great. I discovered DDD's Virtual 3D in the process of troubleshooting this and im floored at how good it is. It looks almost like regular 3D. I thought it would look like a bad 2d to 3d conversion. [Note: i am using their osd to change the virtual 3d "quality" setting to medium which gives more depth].

Make sure to search, theirs some guys that swear DS2 is the reference 3D title after doing some custom mods. From what i've played so far, the game is worth playing even in 2D.

I just tried it again and you're absolutely right, thanks. :) I actually managed to get a bit more depth actually, up to maybe 25% and just a slightly visible black outline around Isaac. Only thing I noticed was the laser tracers appear to be slightly to the left of the crosshair, but they still hit where the crosshairs point to, the DDD drivers have the same issues.

Hmmm not sure what your settings or hardware are, but the games I've tried DDD for run terribly (Space Marines and Dead Space 2), and they're some of the least demanding games otherwise. In Space Marines, I get 20-30 FPS in a game that could run 60FPS per eye with probably just a single GTX 480 in 3D Vision. SLI technically works, but I still only get 40-50FPS most of the time in a game that would be a joke performance-wise with 3D Vision SLI. Its at least playable though with DDD without the annoying halos, but the performance is abysmal, roughly 1/2 of what I get with 3D Vision.

More of the same with Dead Space 2, in the hallway I loaded up FPS would drop down to 20-30FPS in a game that gets over 150FPS in 2D with 480 SLI, easily capped at 60FPS per eye in 3D Vision. It seems more related to on-screen particle effects like fog just bogging the DDD driver down to a halt. In any case, no need to use the DDD driver anymore for this game as I get similar results with 3D Vision now with Ritcher's suggestion and much better performance. I did try Virtual Mode as well but overall the image degradation to me is obvious and it pillarboxes the image for whatever reason.

But yes I agree both of these games are awesome even in 2D, I can see why the topic was brought up because Steam has both of them on sale for $5 each through the weekend:

Dead Space 1 & 2 are purely awesome! You just need to lower the depth a bit play with the convergence some more...and they are awesome! Played both of them in 3D Surround and after I tried regular 2D which is a big.. c_ap. These games ARE MEANT to be played in 3D even with their issues... DDD Virtual 3D is a very cheap 2D->3D conversion. DOn't even bother with that!

Normally I consider 2d -> 3d conversion horrible. I just went to see "Tornado Alley" and i kept taking my glasses off to see the sometimes clearer image (despite the 3d image overlap!), especially during any camera movement, and wished it was in 2D. DDDs virtual 3D almost looks like regular 3D to me, as i said, and there are no anomolies, or any significant framerate hit. I first thought it was useless as well, but there is a strength value called "quality" i didnt' know about, which can be high, medium and low. The lower the quality you do, the wider the separation values are, but apparently the image can get distorted. I didn't see any on medium, however i was in small DS areas. Someone said something to the effect of "wait till your in an area with a large flat surface...", so maybe my opinion will change as i go on. I only just started using it.

Now i have a larger 46" monitor so it widens the image up more than a smaller monitor, thus maybe i got a better sense of distance at higher "quality" values (less separation) since my eyes are staring more straight on. It also means the black areas it creates on the sides on my display are further out than on a smaller monitor and perhaps less noticeable.

Either way, it totally worth giving a try if cases where your totally frustrated with the anomalies, like i was with DS using DDD. Nvidia definitely be used here, but DDD deserves some credit for it a conversion process that looks almost like normal 3D.

If using Nvidia, don't forget try the renaming the .exe trick, which i don't think was mentioned here.

46" Samsung ES7500 3DTV (checkerboard, high FOV as desktop monitor, highly recommend!) - Metro 2033 3D PNG screens - Metro LL filter realism mod - Flugan's Deus Ex:HR Depth changers - Nvidia tech support online form - Nvidia support: 1-800-797-6530

Dont bother trying dead space 2 in 3d unless minimum depth and 0 convergence. Its like eye pain bad if you mess around with it.

Renaming the .exe makes it try a "different profile". This does nothing for dead space 2 or at least its still unplayable at decent settings. I think it was 3dizzy's site that showed it in 3d with tridef.
