Why is SBS and Top/Bottom so important?

As far as I can tell tell they are both inferior to 120hz 1080p.

We are talking of 3DTV Play, a software for... 3DTV /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

And actually, the best supported format for playing on a 3DTV is 1080p60 SBS or TopBottom.
So, we want 3DTVPlay supports these output formats.

I will not talk about Checkerboard which is only supported by few Samsung models.
SBS/Top Bottom are supported by all recent 3DTVs, and most of them auto switch to 3D when a SBS/TopBottom image is displayed.

So, even with the "no user intervention" rule, NVIDIA can (and should) improve 3DTVPlay.

To have a satisfactory full quality 3D gaming experience, the only choice is samsung.

Thats not quite true, ive heard some lg, toshiba, philips and vizio 3dtvs will work in 1080i

Thank you Nvidia for the useless CB 3d mode addition in the 310.33 drivers. I have a 2010 Panasonic 3d plasma and a 2011 Samsung 3d LCD that don't use CB... WE NEED SBS 1080 3d please. DO it already!

Can any one tell me how to choose the 3Dtv play to display sbs or tab model? When I firstly set up my 3dtv play. It turns to Top bottom model automatically. But for some reason, then I set it up today. It change to 3dtv model.

I don't understand why we have still to buy an external software to support SBS-Top/down. It's the easiest output mode and with that 3dtvPlay will be perfect and working on every TV on the market! Surely on 120hz display it will not be best choice, but on standard passive 3dTV Top/Down it's the best working method!

NVIDIA! for the sake of GOD! Why are you so stubborn? Don't you want my money??? I would buy a 3DTV Play stright away if you added Side-By-Side and Top-and-Bottom(Over-Under) modes. On my LG 3D TV it's a matter of pressing one button and the 3D mode is recognised automaticaly, so I don't see any issue with that. Passive 3D displays are flooding the market, don't you see money running through your hands? Now you are forcing everyone to use EDID hack, what's the point of that?

Having been horribly disappointed by the PG278Q (which got vertical stripes in 3D), I'm on the hunt for a high resolution 3D display. That leaves me with exactly zero options for monitors, or a whole bunch for UltraHD TVs. But as long as 3DTV play is uselessly restricted I've shelled out for a 3D Vision kit that has absolutely no value! Here's my vote for Top and Bottom support. It's the exact same rendering as nvidia already uses for interlaced displays (only a different scanline order, resembling the also supported frame packed mode), and as opposed to SBS it doesn't sacrifice horisontal resolution which means the depth resolution is kept at its full potential. SBS can theoretically achieve lower latency on scanning displays, but the current models aren't; T&B has the same advantage on active 3D displays, and avoids resolution loss on passive ones. For instance Samsung HU9000 supports 3840x2160 at 60Hz in both SBS and T&B (where SBS costs in depth resolution, and T&B could theoretically have lower latency). All other modes have much worse performance. Heck, for a simple (if tiny) incentive: If you confirm T&B in "VR SLI" rendering (where each card renders for one eye) in UHD1 resolution, I pledge to purchase another 980 board. I do also want G-Sync functionality, but not at the cost of stereoscopic display. I can manually reconfigure my PC to 24fps when watching a movie. My ideal wishlist would be a UHD1 monitor with line interlaced passive (polarized) or glasses free 3D, low latency, G-sync and good viewing angles (required to use at close range). I haven't seen a single offer come close.

Anyone know what the state of 3DTV play is now? Does it support SbS or TaB? SbS or Tab are really the only good 60hz formats on a 3DTV (other than chekerboard which not many TVs support).. 720p framepacked involves a god awful non-integer scale.

@Hixbot It still doen`t support SBS or Tab Still locked on 720P/60 hz and 1080P/24Hz Using DSR to run at 2540x1420 help a lot though

What about using 3d Vision drivers and an EDID hack to force SbS mode. I see some modified EDIDs to force line interleave for passive TVs. Could not something similar be done to force SbS for an active 3dtv? Framepacked 720p doesn't cut it.

Unfortunately, Nvidia does not have a side by side output option in their consumer drivers. AFAIK, it is available on the Quadro drivers, I'm not really sure. For dx9, the only option is native stereoscopic support being built into the game or perhaps TriDef, which isn't being sold atm because of a bankruptcy filing. For dx11, your options are native built in support, TriDef or games that have a 3Dmigoto fix. With 3Dmigoto, you need to enable SbS via the included ini. There is also SuperDepth3D, which is similar to Nvidia's CM mode. For OpenGL, you can use game fixes available from Helifax or try his wrapper if the particular game does not have a fix. He has two versions for most games, one is wrapped to dx11, the other uses SuperDepth3D. I'm unsure if SuperDepth 3D supports OpenGL or if Helifax hacked it in. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/824274/ We have asked Nvidia repeatedly to support SbS for TVs and Projectors and they have flat out refused to do so. One Poster contacted the CEO directly via e-mail. Perhaps somedsay, it will happen. We even argued that with todays VR Headsets and Phones as viewing devices, it would be a huge asset.
