Please help with Toshiba Satellite Built in emitter
Hey all
I need help desperately
I just purchased a new Toshiba Satellite A665-14F laptop. the computer looks and feels great except for one big problem. Simply put NO 3D !
I Googled the subject but no real help.
I simple opened the box, completed the start up installation and went to Nvidia control panel to enable the 3D stereoscopic feature, it simply launched the 3D Vision wizard which asked me to choose a setup type to use. I picked the first (3D glasses with USB IR emitter) and chose next. On the next screen it says connect the USB emitter and press on; my only problem is the A665-14f does not come with a USB external emitter but rather a screen integrated emitter on the right of the Web cam so I have nothing to connect to USB and certainly no on button for 3D vision. The next button is dimmed till I connect and press a
button of what I simply do not have ???
I upgraded to the new Nvidia 270.61 driver but still still the same. The wizard simply expects a USB dongle with an ON button and green LED to go next and enable the 3D Vision. After a very thorough search in Toshiba documentation they simply say it a very ambiguous manner that it should see the built in emitter and the Nivida driver documentation says it supports the built in emitter, actually I think the driver is successfully installed from the status screen that pops after the installation.
PLEASE HELP :( I felt in love with this laptop that has all I dreamed in a laptop but failed me in the 3D part. I am running Windows Home Premium 64 bit edition that came with the laptop and I have not installed anything on it yet or even used it. I was so excited to test the 3D and it failed me so I need any hint on how to get that integrated emitter working.

You may want to check your Device Manager and verify the emitter shows up under Universal Serial Bus Controllers section as shown in the image below. If it doesn't, then this would explain why the drivers and the wizard can not pick up the emitter.

According to this review, your laptop doesn't feature a built in emitter. It rather uses an external USB emitter:

Dear ManuelG, thank your for helping; actually the one in the review is the older (older? in just a few months !) A665-11z which was marketed in 2010. The newer A665-14f (actually there is now a 14G also with a bigger Hard drive) does have an integrated emitter on top of the LED. Your post still helped because on the USB devices there is an unknown device and I do not see an Nvidia controller anywhere in the device manager. Would anybody with a laptop integrated emitter kindly tell me if it works, where does it show in device manager and under which name ?

Hi
This to me sounds to me like one of two issues:
- You dont have a 3D Vision Controller driver instaled. You can check to see if its installed under Windows Control Panel > Programs > and look for an entry entitled "3D Vision Controller driver" if you have installed the 270.61 driver.
- If you have installed the driver and you still do not see an NVIDIA device there, you may have a failing embedded emitter and you should send your notebook to Toshiba for warranty repair.

ATA Boy Andrew, you are the best ! Thank for your advice, Actually I went thinking your own way and found an unknown USB device in device manager with a code 43 (device stopped by windows for being faulty) and no Nvidia3 controllers anywhere. I took the laptop to a service center and they confirmed the it looks like a faulty emitter, so I returned the laptop (sadly) and they promised me a new one on Friday so let us hope for the best. This laptop is a dream come true, only two things missing, needs more RAM and built in LED is low res (1366 x 768) I would say 1920x1080 and 8GB RAM would make it rock, but still I am buying another unit just for the sake of the back lit keyboard, Nvidia graphics (I have two boards in my other two desktop workstations) and the Bluray writer.
Thank you again. It is people like you that make Nvidia simply rock !:)

Hi
Code 43 does indicate a failed hw issue. There could be a problem between the emitter and the motherboard.
So it does sound like a good idea that you took it to a service center to get it fixed.

Thank you all in advance.

Hi
Let me investigate this issue.
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a665-review-50000491/
You may want to check your Device Manager and verify the emitter shows up under Universal Serial Bus Controllers section as shown in the image below. If it doesn't, then this would explain why the drivers and the wizard can not pick up the emitter.

Thanks again
