Does Maximum Depth hinder gameplay?
Hi Guys,


Fairly new to the 3d gaming world, maybe 3 months or so. I have recently purchased battlefield 3 and love how this game looks in 3d, especially when the depth is turned all the way to maximum. However I have noticed when this happens, slight ghosting occurs, even on a projector I got, optoma hd67n.

Although it looks stunning, sometimes it does affect my gameplay.

I just want to know does anyone here play games on max depth? or is it a silly thing to do? I mean I can turn it down to just below half, and there is no ghosting, but the immersion isn't as good.

What would you guys recommend, playing it on max depth and putting up with the ghosting or lowering it?

p.s I havent tried the setting on other games yet.

I almost always play at max depth, but it depends on the game. Sometimes a better look can be acheived by lesser depth and adjusting convergence instead. I haven't noticed ghosting being affected by how the depth is adjusted so much, but with high convergence levels it can be an issue for sure.

I have yet to find a game that I didn't like best at max depth. I've just learned to mentally block out ghosting.

+1, I always use max depth. I have to, i sit a meter away from a 46" monitor(3DTV) and the perceived depth goes down the closer you get, or maybe better said as: "the wider your FoV." Immersion over points/score everytime i think for me.

Yep. Sit about 2 foot in front of a 60 inch projector screen and have to play with 150+ depth for the gov reasons mentioned above. In a fan of as much depth as possible.

Try lowering the contrast on your projector - that does a good job of reducing the ghosting...

Max depth works well in Games above a certain rating like good to 3d vision ready. Games below average you have to generally make a choice between max depth or a high convergence setting or a reduction of either or. Just in my opinion.
