NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
I just got a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q890 TruBrite 18.4-Inch Laptop with the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M card.

A couple weeks after it was delivered the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q898 came out with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M card.

I haven't even opened the box yet on the first 890, and was thinking of returning it for the for the 898, because of the
3D performance of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M card over the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M.

It will take about a 1 1/2 months though to get the credit back so I can get the new model.

So will the 360M still do the 3D or do I really need the 460M?

Thanks

I would suggest this. First, I'd Google information on both chipsets to see if there is a definitive boost in performance with the 460 chipset. If the answer is no, then just forget about it.

However, if there is an increase in performance, even if it's slight, I'd exchange the laptop. Reason being that even if the performance gain is small, you'll think about it forever, and it will always bother you.

There is a german notebook-test website called "Notebookcheck.com"

They tested:
Toshiba Qosmio X500-121 (Core i7-720QM@1,60GHz + GeForce GTS 360M)
3DMark03 26366 Punkte
3DMark05 16879 Punkte
3DMark06 9865 Punkte
3DMark Vantage 5333 Punkte

Toshiba Qosmio X500-TZ1V (Core i7-740QM@1,73GHz + Geforce GTX 460M)
3DMark03 33915 Punkte
3DMark05 17886 Punkte
3DMark06 12124 Punkte
3DMark Vantage 7517 Punkte

Its not the best compare, because the CPU is faster too, but it should give you a small overview.
Its seems that the 460M is a lot faster than the 360M.

But there is another big problem with this notebook-series:
There is NO Dual-Link-DVI or Display-Port-Connector.
The 120Hz monitors don't work with HDMI.

@All: Only DLP-Projectors and 3D-TV's work with HDMI, is that right?

Thanks for the ideas..

Hamiester, It definitely would not bother me like that, forever, I would
probably forget it about pretty soon.

The machine as it stands is pretty good, but I'm going to look into changing it.
I knew there had to be some difference though.

Thanks Flint Eastwood for the numbers on that..

I'm not too familiar with the spread and how much it means though..
Thanks for the ideas..

Just checked the Notebookcheck.com site..

Does seem to be a pretty big difference in performance..

Looks like I may be going for the exchange..
