I also have this laptop (lenovo y570), and I have not been able to get it to work with 3D vision. I know the laptop display is not 3D, but I thought you could plug in an external display (ie 3D TV). Does anyone know why Nvidia lists this model as supported? It just doesn't work.

Hi,
Same problem here I have Lenovo Y570 and Asus VG278H.
I spoke with NVIDIA 7 or 8 times for the past week and they said YES 100% Y570 support 3D vision and 120 Hz via HDMI. So I spend 500 pounds on that Asus monitor and guess what was the result - nothing. It's not working there is no stereoscopic options in nvidia control panel. I attach the monitor to PC and it's work just fine. I use the latest drivers form Nvidia ver. 300 +. I showed to the guys from Nvidia the timing and resolution list from asus monitor manual and they answer me that They contact Asus and Asus told them there is mistake in that table and they will fix it so for the 8th time they said Yes this configuration between Lenovo Y570 and Asus VG278H working. My opinion is: Combination is crap. Everything by it self is perfect.

Sounds like a real pain for you. Not sure if this is related, or if you have tried all this, but it may help. I managed to get my laptop working with 3D Vision outputting to an external 3DTV - now I know that's not the same as your monitor, but my laptop makes no claim for 3D Vision anything, it just happens to have a 560M graphics card in it so I thought I'd give it a try. It took me some attempts to get it working as well, in particular to get the Stereo options to appear in the control panel, which seems to be your problem. I eventually got it working... What I *think* were the key points are (a) make sure your Monitor is plugged into the HDMI when you turn your computer on (no idea if that is essential) (b) make sure your laptop is definitely outputting via your geforce card and not any crappy built in graphics chip (c) make sure you are outputting *only* to the external monitor through your geforce card and not also to the laptop screen - this was crucial I think (d) make sure your screen refresh is set to 120 in the control panel (not sure if that is strictly necessary, in my case I had to explictly set 720p for 3DTVPlay). If that does not make the stereo options appear, restart your comp from the above configuration and check that it starts up in the same configuration. If it still does not show the stereo options, re-install the nvidia drivers from the above configuration.
I did all of the above at some point, and it 'eventually' worked, but I think one of the keys was only outputting to the external monitor.

If none of this works then you have my sympathies...

It sound ok for me only if I know how to output only via Nvidia card and not with Intel internal one. This laptop using optimus technology and in the BIOS there is option to choose between internal only or smart switch. So if you have any other idea feel free to post it here :)

I don't have an optimus laptop, so I am not sure what the options are. All I can really say is:
- If you don't run your external monitor through the Nvidia card you won't ever get 3d vision working, so that's essential
- You need to set the BIOS to 'smart switch' even if that does not explicitly guarantee use of the NVidia card, because the other option does explicitly rule out the nvidia card so cannot ever work.
- In the Nvidia Control Panel if you goto "Display->Set Up Multiple Displays", this is where you can specify that you only output to the external monitor. On my laptop it also explicitly states the graphics card that monitors are connected to. In my case I only have the 560M, but in your case perhaps it specifies both the internal and Nvidia cards separately? My old macbook did that actually. To be honest I would be very surprised if the external monitor would automatically always connect to the Nvidia card, this is actually what the macbook did I think.
- Have a look elsewhere in these Forums about optimus technology to see if this is a common question people have. Actually, just did that, and it is a common problem - always using the Intel HD chip instead of the NVidia card. This poster found a solution for him/her but you should read the whole thread to see where it goes. http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=202840&view=findpost&p=1351793

Good luck.

I tryed 11 sets of drivers and both connections HDMI and VGA after 7 hours in hell I decide to quit, so I send the monitor back for refund because all this was wasting a lot of nervs and time and ofcourse money. Anyway thank for your support in last couple of days. I will continue to follow that tread and who knows may be I will buy it again in near future if I find cure for that pain
