Forced to return to 2D after that 3D magic.

I just couldn't handle Mass Effect in 3D. I tried many of the fixes out there. I got it to a state where it was playable (removed crosshair, fixed that sort of fog shadow ghost thing etc) but in every scene there is always a minor glitch of some form or other. Be it a little wall texture split in two, a light reflection rendered slightly different in each eye or another 'insignificant' thing; it was all too much and I was forced to give up and play in 2D. Bye Bye S3D. /tearywave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':tearywave:' />

Even with settings maxed out this game looks horribly flat in 2D. Objects have no momentum, bullets are massless, I cant get immersed! I have a horrid feeling that any game which I can't play in S3D will look rubbish to me from now on.

These games had better be awesome pieces of fiction...

I completed my second playthrough of ME1 in 3D, and did it without crosshair fixes just high convergence low depth. However, the contrast related ghosting I would get in ME2 forced me to play it in 2D for the most part. I am still enjoying the games though. They both have great stories.

Ooh, bummer. :( That's the danger of playing in 3d -- once you go 3d, you never [willingly] go back.

I had same experience.
3D not working in this game primarily because of stupid lens flare effect rendered in 2D.
Tried to play this game without 3DVision but seemed so flat, even though I loved the first game which I played last year in 2D.

I honestly have not played a game without 3Dvision since purchasing it 4 mos ago, my $2000 30" dell monitor is no longer used for gaming.
I will not buy any game that does not run in 3DVision.
Conversely, I have replayed a few games (batmanaa, cod4mw, mirror's edge, assassins creed, bioshock) in 3DVision and it was a completely different much better experience!

Hi All

Just so we are clear, Mass Effect 2 had rendering issues in the game which we couldnt overcome in the driver. The game is rated Fair because of the in-game issues.

Thanks for trying though. :)

I saw the 'fair' rating and would argue once tweaked, using settings found on the M2BS3D site, plus the crosshair removal file and the nVidia crosshair, which BTW works very well, the game could well be awarded a 'good' rating!

Its just 3D Vision is so damn immersive that it's horrid when there's a pesky little anomaly or two shouting, 'I am just a computer game!' at you. And that's what ME2 does to me. :(

I agree, even though I don’t play it in 3D, ME2 could be called good rather than fair. Probably could get justify a good rating in nV’s eyes if it didn’t require .ini modifications to fix the crosshair issues. Above I believe I said I wasn’t playing it in 3D because of contrast ghosting related issues, well there is a bit more reason than that … Last I checked Pahncrd’s crosshair fix was still broken due to the coalesced.ini file being updated in patches. For whatever reason if this file doesn’t have literally the exact same number of characters in it the game won’t launch so you can’t just load in the old .ini and have the crosshair fixed again. Also, it seems this file is changed not just with patches, but DLC as well. Last night I launched the game to do a few missions and saw some new content was out; like a mission, a gun, and some costumes. Like any ME nerd I quickly got this content added. Started my game up and AHFSDHFADSD my sensitivity was all messed. I had modified the coalesced.ini file to slow the mouse down and remove some of the acceleration (I am a spoiled brat when it comes to mouse control) and it seems the DLC undid all of this. Lame!

Modifying this file is a real pain because of the need to keep the exact same character count as the original. You are in there looking for values with decimals ending with lots of pointless zeros to add to or take from to make the character count stay the same. A real pain!! Worth it if you love these games the way I do though. 

/yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Yep, a few small visual aberrations is not an obstacle for me to enjoy playing in 3d stereo. In other words, the juice is worth the squeeze in most games.

That's odd. I used Pahncrd’s crosshair coalesced.ini fix v1.2. You?

There are some amazing vistas in ME2. They would look mega in S3D.

Going back to 2d after 3d magic is like..............................having had a vasectomy (not the painfull part) and then years later being told that you have to put the glove back on.

This ruby script fixes the checksums in the ini after modifying it.

So as long as you use a text editor that uses unix line ends (I used Notepad++) and then run this script on the file you can change true to false or 1 to 100000 as you desire.

It was awhile ago, but I found the lens flare colour and set it to transparent (I think) which meant no more lens flares but still able to interact with star map and such.

Please note this is not my work, unfortunately I cannot remember where I got it.

the coalesced one
