ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ - Could it be hacked to work?
I just completed a new gaming/HTPC build with the new ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ monitor, and so far it's running like a dream. But one big disappointment I encountered was the fact that it's not compatible with 3D Vision. Back in the CRT days, I had enjoyed using shutterglasses along with NVIDIA's stereo driver to get stereo in games on my 120hz tube, despite all the bugs and dodgy support that came with it. Being the doofus that I am, I didn't do my research and assumed that NVIDIA's stereo support would be similar to how it was back then and that all I needed to get it working was a monitor that supported a high refresh (the PG27UQ supports up to 144hz) and shutterglasses that worked with modern hardware (my old ones had a VGA plug). So I bought a 3D Vision 2 Kit, sight unseen. Needless to say, I was crestfallen when I tried to run the setup wizard and discovered that my monitor wasn't compatible. I scrounged the internet, looking to see if anyone had managed to find some workaround to get this monitor working with the kit - no luck. I'm getting ready to return the kit soon, but I figured I would make one last attempt to get input from someone who might have experience with getting this or other incompatible displays to work with it before I do. Could it be as simple as an EDID spoof? Or are there aspects of this monitor that would make it fundamentally unworkable?

I am not giving you advice, but what I would do is install the EDID override to the monitor. This is a file which tells the system what kind of monitor it is and what its capabilities are, in essence this tricks windows and the geforce driver to see the monitor as a different monitor. What i would try to do is look at the 2k ROG monitor EDID which is 3d ready, and then add the 4k resolution settings to the EDID and hope for the best. Or you could just return it, but why would you want to, the monitor is completely amazing. The link above is for tv which i believe use a checkerboard technology to display 3d, so in fact it is not 4k native 3d, but a slower different type of 3d because its a television. Anyone doubting the value of 4K 3D vision isn't using the right PPI.... Not so much shooters and FPS's etc but games with toyification.... I have considered dropping the $2000 for this monitor. I have basically the same ACER monitor at 60hz and you can see with 3D VIsion Discover with the 160 PPI it is jaw dropping. I hope the OP is able to get it working with the EDID override... Keep us posted!

First try to use the EDID thing, if doesn't work don't doubt to return or sell the monitor and buy an Asus PG278QR for 1440p 3D

Thanks for the info, guys. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the EDID override for the PG278Q to work with my monitor - just a black screen on both DP and HDMI. Reverted and tried again with my own INF generated from Monitor Asset Manager but with EDID addresses 8-17 (monitor ID) replaced with the values from the PG278Q INF, thinking maybe the 3D Vision check was just looking at the ID. No dice - the wizard still declared it as incompatible. Researching this more, I suspect that even if I were to somehow get it working, the monitor's lack of LightBoost/ULMB would make for pretty horrible crosstalk with the shutterglasses. Ah well. In any case, I'm definitely not returning the monitor. As much as I would like to have 3D, it was always a secondary consideration for me. It's my TV as well as my gaming display, and I'm extremely impressed by its combination of high resolution, high refresh, and HDR brightness/contrast/color gamut - even SDR content and games are vastly improved with that last one! It and the x27 really are in a class by themselves.

Since this is one of those Nvidia sanctioned 4K HDR monitors with G-Sync, I'd think that it would be supported. It's possible that they might be adding it within the next few drivers to the whitelisted displays. You should contact support via live chat or call them , if in the US. You’d have to change inputs but at least it would WORK. There’s a 14 day trial. Could you test that and let me know how it works out? That should send the 3D regardless and maybe still be able to use The 3dvision glasses? Lemme know if you try that and how it works out for you please! I want this too.

Pretty sure 3dtv play is free now and is included with drivers. Haven't checked it myself but I think it's a parting 'gift' from Nvidia. Sorry I was being lazy and hadn't read the whole thing. 3dtv play is designed to be used with a hdmi 'bluray' 3d ready device and only works with the 3d glasses provided with the display. So basically, if it's not a certified 3d display then 3dtv play will be of no use.
