Have you guys tried uninstalling and reinstalling all associated drivers for the motherboards USB vs just updating or comfirming most recent driver version?
Some ASUS motherboards have power saving features that are enabled after boot, maybe it can be disabled in bios? Efficient power switching or Asus EPU

Congratulations Spacemoss, excellent find ... so far. Because of the history I have to be a little circumspect but it is looking very good. I've done 5 shut down - turn on cycles and the emitter has worked every time so far. For my machine that is a record.
Glad you're still with us TsaebehT. Some type of script would be most welcome, since the only failure so far has been mine - forgetting to uncheck the 3D box :).
Gladjag, true this isn't a fix but I prefer unchecking and rechecking a box rather than reaching behind the computer to unplug and replug the emitter. If this does work, and based on the extended preiod it has worked for Spacemoss and my limited success the really good news is this would seem to indicate Nvidia software is causing our problem. Hopefully, something they will address in a future driver.

In the Start menu there's a folder: "Nvidia Corporation" that includes "Enable 3D Vision" and "Disable 3D Vision". With shortcuts you can check and uncheck the "Enable stereoscpic 3D" without having to go to the control panel. A bit more convenient.

Hi all,
I found that Nvidia shortcut enable /disable, so I would only have to go that shortcut instead of the control panel ?
FYI I had moved my emitter to my desk closer to me so it made it easier for the unplug, but you are right if the enable via software give us a direction( or should I say Nvidia) then it is all good.
I am so amazed how everyone is sticking to it, thanks everyone for your continuous input.

Well, turning 3D off before shutdown has stopped working for me. I tried unplugging and replugging the computer, restoring defaults on the Nvidia Stereoscopic 3d Panel, and looked without success for updated Chipset drivers. Physically unplugging and replugging the emitter or putting the computer to sleep are currently the only options that seem to work reliably. How's it going for you Gladjag?

Well Graymatter, i am presently in the same boat as you, tried the shortcuts for 2 days over weekend and it went back to its old habits, I tried the unplug power down PC , power up PC replug and that worked for a couple shutdowns only, so far, like you the only ones that work for a longer period is the sleep mode and the best is always the unplug emitter, then adjust control panel to find my 3D monitor. I have moved my emitter for easy access for unpligging has I mentioneed earlier in the post. What really has me scratching my head is the fact that it works for a bit then boom back to the auto shuttoff.

I've been a little busy lately, I was working on the new script because it was looking good for you guys and now this ...
Have you tried going back to the method again after a successful unplug/replug? Does the method start working again?
It's just maddening that every method we've come up with works and then stops, it is like it's 'learning' and adapting. It's funny because in one of the inf (iirc) files there's a part with 'NVIRUSB' in it ... now logically speaking I know it stands for NVIDIA IR USB ... but it is awful suspicious looking. :D

I think my emitter is sentient.
If I was working for Nvidia I'd definitely think of something other than 'NVIRUSB".
Yes Tsaebeht, when the 3D on/off stopped working the first thing I did was go back and review what Spacemoss did. Which is why I tried unplugging and plugging the computer back in ... and then retrying the 3D on/off cycle ... but this stuff only seems to work once and then for whatever reason everything reverts ... very frustrating. I'm totally hooked on gaiming in 3D and this is really driving me nuts.

Same here, i go through the ones that worked hoping that one of them will stick, but like Graymatter a couple of goods loads then back to not working. I am like Graymatter, i cannot just play games under 2d mode anymore, I spent quite a bit of money on 3d compatible games, i use to play passive 3D and made the move to Nvidia after reading up on how better the immersion is, but i did not know about this pain in the butt problem. Although the plug/unplug is a pain i hope just not to lose patience one day and snap the usb plug behind the emitter

If you're handy with soldering/wiring stuff you could take a USB extension cable and wire up a switch on it. You might be able to get away with just 'switching' on and off the power line of the cable, if so might also be able to run just that power line up to the desk to a spst momentary off (nc) switch then back to the extension cable. A single press of the momentary off switch would cut the power until you let go if it.
If you're not then there are things like this, but you're also adding a hub into the mix.

Tsaebeth, the switchable USB hub is an interesting idea and inexpensive ... I bet you do well at puzzel games ... you never give up do you?
As far as switching power on the USB cable itself I don't think that will work, because at one point I tried a USB hub with it's own AC adapter. I was hoping that since the computer no longer provided power to the Emitter it would work, but no such luck. I'm pretty sure there has to be some kind of logic signal being sent that turns the emitter off.
Also, I don't know how this fits in but when the emitter goes off at bootup there is no "Disconnect" sound from the operating system.
Anyway, the emitter did function when hooked up to the powered USB hub (after the unplug/replug shuffle) so I might give your switchable hub idea a shot (I hope those hubs do more than switch the power on & off). Thank you for the suggestion.

If you have a spare USB extension and you're careful about it you could narrow it to whether the data line, the power line or both that have to be disconnected for it to work. It might very well be just the data line that has to be broken. And yes I like puzzle games as well as horror games. :D
If both have to be disconnected then you could just get a dpst, double pole single throw, switch instead. Most double pole momentary switches are equipped with no and a nc, normally open and normally closed, so it turns one on and the other off when pressed so in the double pole case I'd just got with a regular switch, on or off.
Unfortunately with the switchable hub I really don't think there's a way to know whether or not they do both or just power, most likely just power. Reviews are kind of a mixed bag on that one I just put the first thing I found up for reference.

Hi All,
I did try the Powered USB hub and even if cut the power to the HUB and unplugged the emitter and re-plugged i received same result powered or not equivalent to unplug emitter directly from PC or behind emitter.
TsaebehT , you should be sending that ideal to Nvidia so they can build it into the new Nvidia 3d Kit 3 "a power switch easily accessible" lol.

So, the trigger is even slightly more specific than before. I had the emitter fail twice, but it was immediately evident what caused it.
If I get the emitter working, and then leave it disabled, I can go through as many reboots as I want, and it will be recognized each time, and remain ready for the next time I do decide to enable it. However, once I enable it and use the 3D, and then either leave it enabled or disable it when I'm done, it won't be recognized for subsequent boots. It's the act of enabling it and triggering the 3D that leaves it in faulty state.
At this point, I don't see an easy fix, and just consider it a software issue. I'll be interested to see if future updates/drivers resolve this issue.
