Interesting... I played around with this at E3 on Half-Life 2 and, frankly, was somewhat underwhelmed. I found the color of the displays was kinda washed out and the 800x600 resolution somewhat distracting.
However, my primary complaint was what appeared to be an ever so SLIGHT lag between moving your head and getting the response on screen. I don't know if this was a refresh issue with the eye displays or a delay in the info getting to the PC when you turned your head, but it was noticably *slightly* slower than mouse response and gave me a bit of nausea after several minutes.
IMHO, a nice gadget, but not worth the coin. Maybe when small display technology goes 1024x768... :)
Please post any comments or questions, and I will try and expand the review to cover them.

The E3 demo wasn't Stereo3D enabled... it was just flat 2D, hence your "under-whelming" feelings.
The visor emulates the mouse, there should be no lag between any movements.
In Stereo3D in HalfLife 1, there was a considrable lag in mouse movement with early drivers... perhaps the same issue is cropping up in some way.
I agree that 1024x768 would be the ideal resolution, when FSAA is enabled, it really is hard to tell between the two without a side by side comparrison.

Hmmm... are you *sure* it was not 3D enabled? I seem to remember that it was....
Again.... each to his own I guess.... I'm just saying that this thing is FAR from worth the cost IMHO. Small screen display technology is just not "there" yet to make this a product which I would use extensively.

Yes I am sure HL wasn't stereo enabled... numerous people have commented on it. HL2 does not work well in stereo without putting it into DX7mode anyway :P
And yes, each to his own... I bought one of the old style ones with even smaller screen, no headtracking, "bad" display picture, and only 60Hz workable stereo for... wait for it... $1400 inc shipping and taxes :P
I guess its what you are willing to fork out for... some people buy sports cars, some people buy large houses... we buy VR headsets :)

Well it works for me, full fledged DX9... 71.89 combo does the trick! /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Thanks Raeldor, your review and comparisons of field of view are very helpful. Clearly this is your choice for stereo 3d at the moment... Have you ever used a CRT and shutter glasses setup? If so, how do the stereo effects compare?

Did you have any trouble with Right and Left views getting swapped? Is this what happened with UT2004? Is there a button to swap views?
Thanks.

I haven't experienced this issue yet, though I haven't had as much time to play as I would have liked.

Have you noticed any smearing of the image when you turn your head (due to poor response time)?
Thanks,
John
