3D + Head Tracking
Hey,

I was looking up some info on head tracking and I decided that it would be a worthwhile investment to buy something to use for head tracking while I use 3d Vision, so my monitor truly becomes a window into the games...

I was looking at Johnny Lee's Head tracking using a wiimote and two IR LED's. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or no this setup would work with 3D vision, or whether the two technologies working at the same time would not be possible.

If this doesn't work, does anyone know of any head tracking solutions that are compatible with 3D vision???

I think it is gonna interfere with 3d vision and nothing will be working or it could flicker and so on.

I have been using TrackIR for head tracking i racing games for many years and I am very happy with how it works. It takes quite a bit of practice to get used to but when you finally do the immersion is increased a lot. TrackIR works wonderfully in GTR and other simbin games as well as rFactor and Richard Burns Rally for instance. I have also used in a few FPS games but TrackIR works best for flight sims and racing sims in my opinion.

I have never experienced any interference with the IR signal for the 3D glasses when using TrackIR.

Ok I was not lazy and contacted Track IR tech support answer is

I've tested Johnny Lee's sample headtracking program and I seem to remember it working just fine. I've actually been working on a few of my own ideas with it (3D + tracking), but I'm not sure if (or when) I'll manage to finish it :(

I've tested Johnny Lee's sample headtracking program and I seem to remember it working just fine. I've actually been working on a few of my own ideas with it (3D + tracking), but I'm not sure if (or when) I'll manage to finish it :(

AFAIK TrackIR ir a few hundred dollars, right? I'm not looking to spend that much... (especially since I have to pay for a new fermi card soon :) )

You should keep in mind that his version is great for playing around with and maybe doing some of your own development with, but I doubt any games will support using it. The different ways of head tracking will also perform different functions. If you want to support slight turns of your head for turning in game (like TrackIR seems to support well), the Wiimote solution probably won't work very well. The Wiimote solution will also require that you're directly in line with the remote - it doesn't seem to have a large field of vision (from my time playing with it).
