In addition to the avsthread, I hope you're looking through the thread on this site, http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=168393. People have listed several screen products that you can readily look up the prices for via searching online. DIY is a viable option if you want a potentially really good screen at a relatively low cost.

Take it like, I found cheap silver material , but the guy is reluctant selling it to me "out of stock, too busy", even though I want to arrange local pickup! /pinch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pinch:' />

I don't like the silverpaint idea because you have to spraypaint it, so its not really DIY afterall, you have get it applied profesionally.

There are dedicated silverpaints for projection, not sure how better are these than what you can come up with yourself.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projection_screen#Screen_gain

you should read this first. There are basically two types of high gain screens, angular reflective (silver) , and retroreflective (glass beaded).

First is suitable for ceiling mount pj, the second is NOT!

So its not easy task to remotely judge, exactly what you want . A third option would be rear projection screen, you could project thru a doorstep for example.

Screen is as important than the projector itself, research IS necessary.

I'm not saying it doesn't require alot of effort, though. The dedicated silverpaints for projection are generally regarded as inferior and out-of-date compared to the paint mixes described in the avsthreads. There are one or two other popular mixes as well, in the avs subforum that contains that avsthread, but silverfire is the most popular.

Generally speaking in a home environment silver is good, you're going to have to have good control over the ambient light. Yes, with very high gain screens you can watch the projection in brighter ambient light, in a narrow viewing cone, except other aspects of the PQ are compromised, such as the across-the-board contrast ratio. These screens are usually used for demos and presentations, areas/events with very little ambient light control.

Only that silverfire mix has no gain, or gain like 1.x .

The guy behind it MissisipiMan , has another thread for his LG dual light engine pj, you should look for that thread.

# The use of the Low Lamp feature is both standard and advisable since any such "Silver" Screen will also manifest a Gain factor of a minimum of 3.0
thats the type of number you want (2, 2+). How to do it is the question ;)

BTW , retroreflective da-lite hi power has very good reviews there, as well. Only you can't buy it in europe. You can buy the glass beads themselves though. ;)

pb_maxxx is behind silverfire, MississippiMan has his own mixes. Silverfire has 1.X gain, X varying with the composition, (version), used. It depends if you're going to use 3D on the projector most of the time, or 2D. For 2D high-gain screens aren't desireable for the reasons mentioned, but for 3D they may be necessary.

Btw, that projector is really nice (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1274808).

How fat away will you be viewing the screen from, ~10ft?

This is the most ridiculous forum update, and I probably won't be posting here anymore. Anyway, just wanted to say that I had put in a request for help with your situation. I was told that with your situation, good choices include these two paint formulae, they can be painted on for example $12.00 4' x 8' x 1/8" sheets of White Melamine Hardboard, 5' x 10' x 1/4" sheets of Expanded White Foam (Sintra). If you have an environment in which you have very good control of ambient light, you can try something called S-I-L-V-E-R, a very reflective paint mix. In less controllable lighting circumstances you can try RS-MaxxMudd Standard. If you do plan on going this route, meaning painting a surface, you're gonna want to post a thread there and ask for advice. It is quite a bit of work.

Information on how to create these two mixes can be found on avsforum, here's the one for RS-MaxxMudd.
