Random minimizations?
I've only tried Source games with the 3D Vision so far, but when I've got 3D enabled, it's randomly minimizing my games and preventing me from restoring them. I've been dumped out of TF2 and L4D too often for my taste today, and it doesn't seem to happen except when I have 3D enabled.

Is this some sort of known issue, or am I just lucky?

I get the same thing every time I click "play offline" the first time in the first menu of Unreal Tournament 3. Then I restore the window and it works the second time. Similar issue though and it's reproducable, at least on my rig and current OS installation.

EDIT: Ah! Idea! I've seen this problem quit a few times at work:
You might have a stuck or sticky Windows key. If you're using asdw as per usual then all of a sudden your windows key sticks or triggers, Windows will recognize a Windows+D sequence and minimize to desktop. It could even minimize the game window and pull up the start menu with just the Windows key, depending on the game.

If it's an issue you think might be popping up in every game randomly, you might try a different keyboard so you can safely rule that out. Could be a long-shot, but worth a try.

Definitely not a stuck Windows key, as I use the Saitek Cyborg and have an option to completely disable the Windows key.

Further, trying to re-enter the game will flicker my screen black like it's initializing DirectX again, then drop me back to the desktop. I'll have to play around some more to see if I can figure out a specific cause.

This is a random hunch, but do you have Skype installed?

If so, go into the options, general settings, and change visual style from "Skype" to "classic windows"

Negative, no Skype.

I've played some more, and it doesn't seem to happen in anything except L4D and TF2. Not sure what causes it, either, but an extended playsession in Far Cry did nothing and it never happens when I turn off 3D (using ctrl-t, so the software is still running, I still get scan lines, but it doesn't split the image).
