Here we go again. Windows 10 upgrade now 3d vision won't install....
Yet again after an 'upgrade' to the windows slow lane version 18342 both the 3d drivers and 3d controller driver won't install when I try to update to a new driver. Tried creating another user account and setting it as admin which worked last time, but no go. Tried DDU, running as admin, etc nothing works. No error codes given in the installer which is particularly unhelpful. Before I yet again do a complete new installation has anyone found a fix ?

Gave up in the end and had to reinstall windows from iso. Fortunately I have only games left on windows 10. Everything else is now on windows 7 or linux. So reinstallation on windows 10 is frequent but quick....

It's "amazing" to see how Microsoft breaks things over and over again with each feature update. I would just wait until Mcirosoft released the final build and Nvidia offered optimized drivers for it. Or wait some weeks more until people confirmed that the update didn't delete private user files ;).

Wait, but Phil Spencer continually stresses Microsoft's commitment to providing PC users with a flawless experience with an emphasis on first rate service.
No error codes given in the installer which is particularly unhelpful.
You mean, you don't find error messages like: "The application did not start correctly," helpful? But how else are you going to know that the application that did not start, did not start, unless Microsoft explains it to you after the fact?

Actually its the nvidia installer that just says 'failed to install'. Although the windows update installer is as bad or worse. When the windows 10 update fails on the 6 monthly builds it helpfully says 'something went wrong' ! Of course they've also nuked safe mode. Utter morons - its as if Fisher price trained a crack team of hackers to wreck windows 7 and re brand it as windows 10 with a gui made for 5 yr olds! Linux is a joy to use by comparison, just a shame that 3d vision doesn't work on it or I'd bin windows 10 completely. Linux updates are an object lesson to microsoft on how updates should be done. The present slow ring build of windows 10 did something to the display drivers that caused problems. The colour calibration tool stopped working, then the new nvidia drivers wouldn't install 3d vision. This happened on the last 6 monthly update but was a permissions problem solved by creating another user account and setting it as admin and installing the drivers from the new account. This time that failed. As there wasn't any performance boost or improvement with the windows 10 update (surprise, surprise) I'll stick on the October update and block the new builds for a while.

Is this issue present with 1809? I'm considering trying dark file explorer. I'm currently on 1703 and have a System Image to revert to but don't want to waste my time.

1809 is fine. Andyguitargloucester is using a preview/beta of Windows 10 changes.
Eventually available to all W10 users
Yep. If we're lucky, NVIDIA and/or Microsoft will do something about it before that happens.
