Learning a little about 3d depth VS pop out of screen exp. let down by game developers.
1 / 2
got my 3d vision set, and i love it..
Love playing OLD games with it enabled, also newer games wwhich support it.
One thing im mising is the pop out of the screen effect, as nvidia shows in their latest demo test
that came with the new drivers recently. 3d vision + geforce 196.21 drivers..
I didnt think it was possible with this sort of system..
Okay i went to see the movie with the blue men /pirate.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pirate:' /> dont worry i wont mention it.
And the outof screen was great, so i had to read up on whats what.
and from this article it came down to :
Imax 3d, Reald, dolby 3D, and aparently also sony 3d (ofcourse they have to make their own system /facepalm)
anyway im not sure what we as nvidia users was using then ive found this site how to watch 3d at home setup
And hell thats basicly what we got here, shutter glasses + ir emtter and 3d ready screen/tv
Now heres the 1.000.000$ question
Would the nvidia ir emitter be working with a tv that have the 3d output which mine does
if i change the usb port to a whats look like a old ps2, maybe using a convertion plug or something.
Or does the nvidia ir emetter have some hardcoded code in it, that prevents it from being used any
where else than with a nvidia graphics card ?
Bonus question :
Besides the latest nvidia test screen with the logo poping out of my monitor, anyone else
know of any 3d app with pop out of screen effect like that, dosent matter if its a 3d view demo
or something, im just burning for some out of the screen action, instead of depth experience.
Try Avatar the game demo, or Batman Arkham Alylum Demo.

Got them both in full game, and they dont..
The movide avatar did have pop out of the screen effect..
But the games dont ewen close to pop out of the screen, but the "NEW" nvidia test,

the games dont really have that, ewen when turning it to max,
the games have depth and emerse me into the game, but dosent put the game towards me,
That's because that demo has convergence set up already. Learn to set your own convergence - you'll have pop out until you go crosseyed and your eyes turn bloodshot and explode like crushed grapes.

You can't set up convergence in Avatar. Doesn't really matter though. That game has plenty of out of screen effects by default anyway.

In response to your pop-out question, I have to say, the test in the nv control panel is by far the most amazing 3d pop-out I have seen to date. It would appear that pop-out is a dirty word, its consitered tacky by higher ups. They say "you have to be drawn into the screen" or "it should be like looking out a window", "we don't want 3d to be gimicy". Now I like depth set for around 75ish but would gladly give back another 25% for some amazing pop-out. I want the crap out over my keyboard allllll the time, I would like buckets of blood to fly from my screen (not for real-i understand this for video game entertainment) and not just the floating in front of you 3d, I want the cheap stuff too-objects that fly from the screen at your face causing you to cry out and try to dodge it. I guess i have to wait till some lowlife developer who just wants to take my money in exchange for cheap thrills......................

How many games do you play where stuff is always flying RIGHT up close to the camera? None? Oh. That's why you can't have constant pop out situations in games. Also, it WILL hurt your eyes after a while.
Still, if you want a decent experience similar to this, try playing a racing game and adjusting convergence to the point where the car (or the dashboard) is solid. Then when it gets any closer to the camera at all, it will pop out at you. Probably too much, and you'll quickly adjust it back.

sorry but have to disagree with ya there, if I had the option to have 3d the way the nvidia comes out of the screen and spins around befor going back in (nv cp test) I would use it. Think of it as more screen to display with. I much perfer the game to reside in all dimensions all the time with lots of cheap in-your-face pop-out. Think what Left 4 Dead would be like if every now and then a zombie sticks its rotten face out into your living room and spits goo on you-if nvidia can do this in the test and do it so magicaly then i want zombie in my face in the same way. I know what your saying about convergence but i perfer it alittle more extreame. I have seen nice use of 3d in many games now, having played many titles I know I what to see some.................Boxing, so the fists fly past your head kind of thing, something that would have to play at all levels all the time with the added bonus of random extream pop-out. I dont think it would bother my eyes much or i would get use to it.

Yes that would be great. I basically understand convergence. But really don`t know how to use it the right way. I have to got to the minimum of 3D Vision depth amount. Everything higher is to wide apart. I read from people here that use settings from 75% and more. Have you trained your eyes to use such high settings? :)
EDIT: I have the same problem with the pop out effects. I use the Samsung PS50B450 Plasma for 3D Vision and have minimal pop out :( I come against the ghosting by increase gamma. that helped very much, no ghosting anymore :) But is there anything with the TV or why is there such minimal pop out? I mean such pop out like the ones in disney world or universal studios when something seems to come right to your face from the screen /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> if you know what i mean. I bought an IMAX movie called Haunted Castle and the support lady told me that there has to be pop out. Is my TV too big? Too small? I don`t understand why. In real 3D cinemas i can see the pop out clearly. Tentacles come out off the screen to reach for me. Sorry if something is double. I`m just in the beginning to learn englisch :)

There is also a demo by nvidia called geoforms which reacts to music and gives really good pop-out, easily as good as the nvidia test demo.
I use it to show off my projector. Those little blobs float at least 3ft from the wall, i'll watch them for hours.
Love playing OLD games with it enabled, also newer games wwhich support it.

I use the Samsung PS50B450 Plasma for 3D Vision and have minimal pop out :( I come against the ghosting by increase gamma. that helped very much, no ghosting anymore :) But is there anything with the TV or why is there such minimal pop out? I mean such pop out like the ones in disney world or universal studios when something seems to come right to your face from the screen
There is also a demo by nvidia called geoforms which reacts to music and gives really good pop-out, easily as good as the nvidia test demo.
I use it to show off my projector. Those little blobs float at least 3ft from the wall, i'll watch them for hours.
