Soo ... i have spent the last couple of hours searching these forums on some details regarding playing 3d movies on pc-s and couldn't find all the answers i was looking for , hence thought to start this thread , maybe we can all share the experience we have with 3d movies playing on pc.
I have bought the 3d vision kit and a 3d ready display (Acer GD245HQ) for games a while back and for games is working great, however lately a lot of movies in 3d formats are becoming available and i am stucked in finding a decent 3D player.I have tried a couple softwares and all of them are still far away from the functionality of any simple 2d movie player.
First the Nvidia Stereo PLayer .... nice and simple ,works fine and can open most of the files but has a BIG issue: you can't seek the file while in stereoscopic/fullscreen mode(none of the interface can be seen for that matter) and if seeking while in window and try switching to 3d again will stop working ( black screen ) and needs a kill from taskmgr.Imo this is horrible : it forces you to see the movie from the start everytime you launch it(so you can't review your favorite scene or whatever).
Second will be the Stereo Player (3dtv.at) which seems similar to NvStereoPlayer with a bunch of features added that are not of any use for 3d vision users , same issue as the Nv player if seeking and switching to fullscreen will get stuck to black screen and needs a kill process.
Third i've tried PowerDVD10 ... it works fine with bluray3D or iso images of b3d (mounted with Virtual Clone Drive ... other tools gave errors in PowerDVD ... unrecognizable disc format or smthing) ... the great feature it has over the above ones is that it can display the interface while in fullscreen so you can access menus/change audio streams/subtitla language/seek the file and still be in fullscreen/stereo mode, the downside is that it can't play other stereo files: Side by side , over/under, or separate Left and Right files(these work fine in nv stereo player). Also it seems it works only in win7 ( not in vista or earlier versions of windows )
Fourth tried Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre ... worse than PowerDVD ... it can play bluray3d but cant play the other files and does not allow interface in fullscreen either.
Fifth ... gave up trying and thought to do some searching instead .... but with no success.
Post your experience with playing 3d content on pc , what software are you using , how is it working with different type of 3d media formats and any other details you might think will be useful to someone new trying this.

NVidia responsibles, please, get your hands on this one. It's so important to know the possibilities we have but didn't discover yet to play our 3d contents through our 3dvision on PC monitors...
This should be possible one way or the other with not being dependent on 3d movie format, i.e. side by side or as normal 3dtvs.
I have many 3d movies converted to mkv. How i can see them properly on my PC monitor ? Which software or plug-in do i need to have ?
I think this will guide/encourage lots of people to buy Nvidia 3dvision and proper monitor instead of paying thousands for decent 3dtvs to experience it..

I use sView for viewing all my 3D video files (flv, mp4, mpg, avi) as well as jps and mpo image files (http://www.sview.ru/en/download). It allows seek within full screen playing and will play all movies one after the other if more than one in a single folder. Here's the user tips page (http://www.sview.ru/en/sview2009/usertips). For videos I created a Send To shortcut called "sView - Movie Player" and set its properties to "C:\Program Files (x86)\sView\amd64\sView.exe" --fullscreen --in=video. I then right click on any video and it will open in full screen. For images: "sView - Image Viewer" "C:\Program Files (x86)\sView\amd64\sView.exe" --fullscreen --in=image. This is a fantastic (and free!) S3D image/video viewer that I use daily. Rarely use the nVidia player except for old stereoscopic DVDs.

It supports side by side and over/under format.

No it can't. Where did you get that from? Please post a screenshot along with a guide on exactly how you go about to open a stereoscopic movie made out of two files, one for each eye.

First of all: Yeah, Power DVD 10 mark II can handle Side by Side videos along with over/under. I am using it as well with the 3D Vision Kit. I hope Nick7 will post you some screen shots to prove that.
I have a better question. What can I do to view BluRay 3D movies, (which are not Side by Side videos, instead they are Frame Sequential videos) with a 2 projector sistem? I mean I have an nVidia Quadro FX5800 and I use a 3D sistem with 2 projectors equiped with polarized filters facing towards a silver screen and back to the audience wearing polarized glasses. So this is my layout. None of these players listed above by others can handle properly frame sequential videos when using a 2 projector sistem.
So if anybody has any idea well I would really appreciate it.

There you go: http://img444.imageshack.us/i/powerdvd10.jpg/
Btw, SBS is *not* made out of 2 files, it's one file where half of picture id for left eye, and other half for other.
I don't know if it's possible to use PowerDVD to open 2 separate files though. But - most files are in standard SBS, thus one file.

Oh thanx. But I'm desperate to find out how to open two separate files in power dvd. One file for the left eye and one for the right, I haven't found a way to do that. If one could do that, the app would be a great substitute to the Nvidia 3D Vision player.

I don't know if any consumer level software is capable of that. None of the software Blu-Ray 3D players currently out support that as far as I know. They are generally designed for single hdmi or dvi cable output.

Tried Sview , nice program ... somehow it seems to lag on my system will do more research on the issue
Will upgrade PowerDVD as well and test.
LE.
I have further checked the issue with sView ... i run x64 os and the program is installed in ProgramFiles though the exe in the main folder seems to be the 32bit exe.The 64 bit executable seems to be in the amd64 folder ("c:\Program Files\sView 2009\amd64\") ... this one works without lag ( some lag while interface is visible but will get to normal when interface will dissapear ).
Upgraded Powerdvd with patch 2325 and it can play SBS files as well.

I question your legality in all this the moment you mentioned you were mounting (what I would assume is Blu-Ray images) using Virtual Clone Drive. That just wreaks of downloading Blu-Rays to me otherwise why would you be mounting them?

I don't seem to find any mentioning of image mounting in this thread; maybe they've been edited out or I haven't been thorough in reading...nvidia 3d vsion video player is more than sufficient for my modest one 120mhz monitor setup.
what I want to add is that...what's wrong with being "honest"? especially when we're in the realm of playing with expensive hardware? when you can afford a respectable 3d vision setup, I don't see any reason for being cheap on legit BR discs and softwares.
moreover, if you don't want to be a saint, at least you should be a smarter "thief"...don't come to a legit site to find solution for illegit walkarounds.

So this is my layout. None of these players listed above by others can handle properly frame sequential videos when using a 2 projector sistem.
So if anybody has any idea well I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Steve

No it can't. Where did you get that from? Please post a screenshot along with a guide on exactly how you go about to open a stereoscopic movie made out of two files, one for each eye.

Hy
First of all: Yeah, Power DVD 10 mark II can handle Side by Side videos along with over/under. I am using it as well with the 3D Vision Kit. I hope Nick7 will post you some screen shots to prove that.

I don't know if any consumer level software is capable of that. None of the software Blu-Ray 3D players currently out support that as far as I know. They are generally designed for single hdmi or dvi cable output.

Thanks alot for your replies.
