I just have to put this out there fellas...
I havent had a single crash in weeks! Running Non SLI, V-Sync off, shader cache off and 3D fix V.6 installed. I always use continue when the main menu loads. The only issue i have had was loosing the 3D effect by 50% in MP when certain areas load, but that only happened twice and all i had to do was restart the game. Frame rate is stable now at 30fps and the game looks like a million bucks!
THANK YOU!
I have never had major issues with single card setup, its in SLI where the fun seems to start, 30 fps is a little to slow for me. But I am glad you had success!
Are you running the "evil update?
Thanks necro (all hail Lord Marshall btw... :p)
I dont think V.6 had the Evil Update did it? I'm only running whatever the Helix team put into V.6...
No issues at all. 30 fps is the average, if i look up at the sky i can get around 45-50 fps, heavily populated area around 25 fps, most of the time its around 35fps while exploring. it is pretty slow, especially since i've been playing DA2 with all the right mods, Eqzitara's 3D fix, and Ultra HD textures and i can get an average of 95 fps! I don't know what else to do to up the framerate in DA:I as the card is already overclocked to 1415 and memory overclocked to 4001!
For Inquisition I have all settings on ULTRA except MSAA & ppAA which are off, post process quality is on low, and HBAO is on Full. Alas, my dream of getting another GTX 980 for 2-way SLI output to three Asus VG278HE Monitors in 3D Vision Surround may never happen now that i know SLI is not dependable.
C'est la vie...

No, the so called "evil update" is nothing to do with the fix. Its a windows update labelled "KB2670838". removing it was definitely a major factor in me achieving a stable game.

Well... I am not sure if the latest patch made stability worse or it's just me... But now I do get crashes in loading screens...
I see they also broken my FWS fix -_- (but that was to be expected) and I can update that one...

Oh no, there is a new patch? Is this forced?
I played all night last night in SLI with shader cache on with not a single crash or broken shader, zoning into various zones and skyhold frequently. When did this patch come out?
I still not happy that I have enough data to say I have fixed my problem completely. I really don't want to throw a spanner in the works with a new update...
I definitely intend to write up something regarding my settings but I just want to make sure first, I think there could be a bunch of stuff involved. Ill do this as soon as I'm happy and have some free time. But to give you a couple of things to play with which I think are high possibilities.
- I think with shader cache on, Vsync forced appears to stops the game from incorrectly loading or stereoizing the shaders and could be a factor in the stability issues as well. I'm using adaptive.
- I slightly modified the Bf4 profile to match the default profile. (antialiasing compat is different)
- I only clear the shader cache if I get a effect fail to render in stereo on load. (which hasn't happened for two days)
- Obviously the evil update remains purged from my system,
- I use the registry changes to disable 3dvision on startup, and enable it when in game but once I am in game I leave it on. I never disable it in game.
- only use continue to get into the game on first load, but can use load after that.
Seems the Alt+ tab trick is working for me now, but I have found I haven't needed it. I think there is something in my settings for SLI/ surround and running on a single screen as well. but Ill need to confirm.
If it remains stable though my play through Ill do a decent write up on all my settings for everyone

I figured a patch would come to mix things up for us. I just tested with the patched DAI and I also had an update download for FWS. I have been playing around with vsync and it does seem to have some impact. I am currently trying forced vsync (on, not adaptive as I still had errors last test with adaptive).
I am noticing something different today but I am not sure if it is due to the DAI patch, the FWS update or the vsync change. I launched and used continue which loaded my last auto-save from some testing yesterday. Once the scene displayed I enabled 3D and everything was perfect. I then traveled to the Hinterlands and for the very first time it played the cut-scene properly in 3D and after that cut-scene the 3D was still perfect. For this save I had not yet been the Hinterlands.
I then tried to load another save but the game crashed during the loading screen. I had not disabled 3D and I had not tried the Alt-Tab trick.
I then reloaded and hit continue which did load up the save I was trying to load oddly enough. I enabled 3D and all looked good in Haven. But, as soon as I walked down the steps towards the gate some of the shaders broke. I tried to exit to main menu but it crashed during that load.
One thing that was different for the one loading screen that worked is that I noticed a fair amount of flickering. I may not be describing it well but it seemed like the 3D was breaking and sorting itself out a few times during the load. The fps jumped all over the place and I did momentarily get the issue where one eye was missing most of the loading screen but it all sorted out in the end. But, it was only that one time.
necropants, after you do continue if you want to load another save, do you just load it or do you exit to main menu and load? Also you mention altering BF4 profile for antialiasing compatibility changes, but the only difference I see is the antialiasing behavior flag. Is that what you were referring to?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I wonder if the fact that you are using Surround is helping you. I don't think I can enable it with only one monitor can I? It seems like using Surround has helped both you and helifax.

That will be it yes. Not sure if that's a factor but its one of the things I changed before achieving stability. I need to test a bit more, but I am more concerned with actually finishing the game in 3d at this point. Then Ill do some more experimenting.
I am a bit loathe to update at this point, cause it just puts more variables into the mix especially if it breaks for me again, but sounds like there is no choice.
I actually just have been making loads from gameplay, but they weren't to another zone or anything like that.

The patch broke the FWS fix.
I have already corrected this and sent a PM to mike to update the Fix on the HelixBlog;)
In any case DO NOT USE THE CURRENT FWS plugin!!! as is writing in a wrong memory location and corrupting MEMORY!
ONCE THE FIX on HelixBlog is updated you can SAFELY USE IT !!! Most likely you will hear about it here !
The weird behavior has nothing to do with the FWS fix anyway.... I am still testing and playing and I think I might have a solution;)) (Which for me makes the game stable with no Fix disabling and stuff...)
@necropants: Thx for the info;)) I will defo look into it;))

Thanks for updating the FWS utility - the update is now on the HelixMod site.
For the last couple days I was having no issues with alt-tab or fast travel until late last night when I started playing around midnight CST and started getting CTD's during fast travel. I am not sure if the new patch was added when that happened or not. I was using the BF4 profile on the 347.09 drivers. I used shader cache on and v-sync enabled in the driver and v-sync disabled in the game. This is on Win7 64-bit on my 980GTX cards in SLI.
I will test it out with the new FWS utility when I get home in a couple hours.
Helifax, I am interested in seeing if you come up with a solution for the crashes that you mentioned you were testing.
Cheers!

Well great, as I feared....
Luckily, after bio-wares update the game still loads up correctly for me shader wise, with my current settings and shader cache on, but I have now gone back to crashing on nearly every zone. (this was from not at all the last few days)
As Jason reports after the update, I have started getting this weird flickering on the load screens before it crashes.
How can I tell I definitely have the required update for FWS? Cause after upgrading to v9 I notice it still mentions Patch 2 + hotfix
thanks.

Oops... I forgot to change the description. I didn't increment the version number or else FWS will see a mismatch in the local fix and the one from the repo and will download the one from the repo (old one).
I will send it to Hayden today so he can update the repo;)) (with proper versioning and stuff)
I other news I was able to play 4 hours last night with no crashes, everything working perfectly, no fix disabling and so on... I just need to test it today (this evening) and will let you know what I did;))

That's great news helifax. The funny thing is after I restarted the game a few times yesterday and reboot it started to be relatively stable again (I didn't clear the cache.) with one horrible difference.
I crashed on area transition a couple of time. A hard crash where I had to reset my pc too =/
Biowares update definitely seems to have actually made it worse for me.
Lucky I have a system image from the other day prior to the update. I will likely test this tonight with the internet off. ;)

I would just hold on my horses a bit;)) with the image flashing;)) but ofc;)) is up to you;))
I am testing currently... but since yesterday I was able to play the game with ZERO problems both in Surround/SLI, SINGLE Screen/SLI (with BF4 profile only) and single GPU/Single Screen.... No crashes, after 20 minutes of CONSTANT travelling to all locations on the map I gave up testing as it didn't crash once, didn't disable the fix once and so on;)) Don't want to say more just yet though;))
But I think we are golden !
I will update on this after I make some more tests...Now testing with the KB Windows Update patch installed. But I think it doesn't matter anymore... ;)

I actually appear to have spoke a bit to soon in my last post an have now fixed my issue, and it may be because they changed something that made my previous work around break.
See I was running my system in SLI as Surround (span displays with surround)
But I had it forced to a single display with the surround Hotkeys. Rendering desktop as same resolution as game with 120hz and set to 60hz in game, as per the blog instruction.
But after the update this appears to hard crash my pc on area transition.
So I moved SLI back to "maximum 3d performance" and my problems again ceased. I had to have zoned to different areas about 20 times and I too gave up. So maybe they fixed something with how this works.
The KB windows update I don't think was a factor in my game being stable, it just ensures the game actually renders correctly with the fix if its absent and allows me to run in SLI with the shader cache on.
I think my Vsync settings have something to do with preventing the game from failing to stereoize certain elements and perhaps keep it stable on area transition as well.
Very interested to hear your findings Helifax, so we can hopefully put an end to this mess, but for what its worth I appear to have a completely stable game again. =)

helifax and necropants, I truly hope you two are close to sorting this out. At this point I have not been able to find any solution that is stable at all when loading into another zone. I have tried DAI and BF4 profiles with SLI and without SLI and with shader cache on or off. At this point I always load the game and 3D is perfect once I hit Ctrl-T in the game. But, as soon as I fast travel I get a mess with what displays for my left eye during the loading scene and then once loaded (if I am lucky and it does not crash) some items are flat at screen depth.
I am going out of town for a week and a half starting this Saturday and I had hoped to play this some before I leave but right now I cannot seem to find a solution that at least sort of works.
If either of you think you have a good stable solution I will gladly try to test it if I am still in town.
While I am out of town I may just play some in 2D on my Razer Blade 14. I have been very surprised at how well it handles DAI in 900p or 1080p. That GTX 870M is a beast for such a small laptop.
I appreciate all the work everyone has done to work on the fix for this game.

No, the so called "evil update" is nothing to do with the fix. Its a windows update labelled "KB2670838". removing it was definitely a major factor in me achieving a stable game.

I am a bit loathe to update at this point, cause it just puts more variables into the mix especially if it breaks for me again, but sounds like there is no choice.

Cheers!
