If the glasses are working then you will notice a change in opaqueness when looking to and away from the emitter:
- go into 3d mode (by going the nvidia setup application)
- look at the emitter
-> the glasses will be darker now
- look behind you, away from the emitter
- after about 4 seconds after losing the emitter signal the glasses will let through more light.

I don't know anyone else with the glasses, but that sure what have been the easiest way to diagnosis this :(
Not sure about a spare HD to swap out, but honestly with Acronis it almost would be easier to do the image/restore than mess around in my case and deal with whatever bs may be going on with an old harddrive.
It would be super sweet to boot linux usb to test though.
It will be a Friday/Saturday thing for me and I'll let you guys know what happens. Please know I really appreciate your help and suggestions though.

Ah... This is DEFINITELY NOT the case for me. No difference in view from glasses whatsoever, at any time, even during the setup and 3d test.

Since the emitter is doing something it's highly unlikely it's a software problem. Most likely the glasses are faulty. But it might also be the emitter, the IR led might be burning but not giving a correct signal. Can't be 100% sure without testing it with a different pair of glasses. Your best bet is to return the 3d kit and get a new one.
