Hmm... it complaining about the connector could be symptomatic of another issue altogether.
Have you tried a different connector on different card sockets? each card has 2 SLI sockets IIRC.
Some people with similar problems have also suggested swapping the cards from their respective slots...

[/quote]Tell me more about this patch you installed. There should be no need to do anything heroic to get two cards from different brands to work together. As long as the underlying hardware is the same, brand is irrelevant. (Same GPU version, same bus width, same VRAM size. Bus speeds don't matter, one can be OC e.g.)
If you flashed a different BIOS to the card for example, that can easily explain a disabled SLI connector.

By default I cannot enable SLI, because it tells me that the SLI bridge is not connected, while it is. I didn't do anything special to the cards. I thought it didn't work due to the different brands so I've installed this patch from here to get SLI to work: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/sli-with-different-cards.158907/
However the SLI connector bridge still isn't recognized. I'm starting to think that the MSI has faulty SLI connectors.

OK, interesting. Can you give me the model numbers of the cards? Or, conversely, are you certain that they are identical cards?
You definitely should not need to use that software to enable SLI here, that's more for unusual scenarios like making 2G cards work with 4G cards.
Given that it worked with your Inno card previously, I'd also agree that it seems like bad luck, but the MSI does seem to be faulty.

From what you are saying it seems that your second PCI express slot is either disabled or malfunctioning.
Some motherboards have a physical switch by the express slot for turning it off.
It might even be a setting in your motherboard bios perhaps.
Some motherboards were only AMD crossfire compatible, perhaps this is your case?
Have you visually inspected the pins in your second express slot to comfirm that they are not bent/damaged?
Is your power supply output high enough for two GPUs? Have you comfirmed that the second GPU is indeed being powered and that the PSU is not defective?

No issues with single 970 or with 670 SLI
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light + Helix mod:
Bad rendering quality, ghosting, unable to fix.
Works great with single 970 or with 670SLI
GRID2 970SLI:
No performance increase in SLI.
Can't tell if this is the same for 670SLI.
Using drivers 344.48. 3D with the 9 series is a mess. I'm highly displeased.
