Is my projector dead? Has anyone tried the BenQ W1090?
I think my W1070 is dying. It powers up and displays video directly from my laptop when connected directly, but won't play nice with the receiver. The receiver has it's own interface that displays just fine when that's connected directly to a monitor, but the projector and receiver are no longer on speaking terms it seems. Sound works just fine via the receiver, and my PC/PS4 display just fine when the receiver is connected to a monitor, just not the projector. I've tried different cables, taking it apart and putting it back together, factory resetting both the receiver and projector, and nothing has worked so far. Without the receiver I don't have sound, so it's needed. I'm leaning more towards the projector being the issue, as the receiver seems perfect and google suggests the HDMI chips on the W1070 can be prone to failure. So firstly, does anyone have any other ideas on how to get it going? And secondly, has anyone tried the W1090, and would you recommend it as a replacement if I don't have any success?

Until you can get an upgrade just go with 2 different cables, one to the receiver and one to the projector. Have extended desktop and set a very low resolution on the receiver. I'm using Monitor profile switcher to create and save profiles and I can switch very easily from one to the other.

That doesn't sound dead. If it's working when plugged directly to the laptop, that suggests that either the receiver or the projector are not quite seeing eye to eye on the HDMI signal. I assume it seems to be working, but is a black image. As an interesting data point, I have maybe a similar problem with my mondo laptop HDMI with a direct connection to Oculus Rift. When directly connected, I get video dropouts, black screens every 10 minutes or so, for up to a minute, then it comes back. Did the month long try-this-try-that Oculus support, then a warranty exchange, and still a problem. From experimentation, I found that plugging the computer into the Vive breakout box, then the Rift into the Vive breakout box fixed the problem. This strongly suggests that the Rift is asking for too much from the HDMI connection. The laptop part is much more likely to be correctly specced than the Rift. The fact that all other HDMI devices work outside of the Rift, and that adding a powered hub fixes it, suggests the Rift is not up to spec. So, another experiment based on that thought that I needed a powered hub/HDMI. I bought a ZettaGuard splitter, which is powered, and splits laptop HDMI to Rift and my projector. This also fixed my Rift problem, and makes it so I don't have to unplug anything when switching. It's worth noting that the ZettaGuard does not work with a Dell Mixed Reality HDMI connection. My best guess here is that they need bidirectional HDMI data for MR, and ZettaGuard is one way. So... try some in between boxes. Instead of a passive cable, try a powered active HDMI cable. If you can, try a powered HDMI breakout box or hub. May or may not fix your problem, but seems worth a try.
