The thing is after getting 2 from best Buy and calling ASUS twice not all G74 come with 3D capable displays. There is no special code that list what you get. NVIDA did a review on the model I got and it had 3D.
I went to Best Buy twice on this and they did not know why I only had a 2D display. Best Buy spent a couple hours one day trying to understand why the display driver was wrong, they thought they were selling a 3D Laptop. The first time I called ASUS they told me to take it back to Best Buy to see if they could fix it.
I think they are miss representinging the G74Sx to the public. I think NVIDIA should look at how they represent this product in their review.

I'm not sure the G74 is shipping with different displays, it may be shipping with different driver versions with some that disable 3D Vision by default. At some point about a year ago, Nvidia was told to disable 3D Vision in their Verde drivers by the various notebook OEMs. If a notebook ships with 3D Vision you'll need to get driver updates from that OEM or use a modified INF file with the public releases.
Quick Google search seems to indicate you need to grab some files from Asus, like the Nvidia stereoscopic driver under "Utilities":
