Drag. I guess I'll get it at the Steam xmas sale or something.
http://games.on.net/2014/06/ubisoft-game-the-review/
haha - spot on!
I've played a fair amount of the game, maybe 15% or so. Enough to do a bunch of missions, a bunch of side missions, money missions, collectibles, the usual plethora of add-on distractions.* I'm playing it in co-op with a good friend, and no it doesn't have a normal co-op. We do a mission, or extend the story or whatever the person wants. If we die, or finish a mission, we swap. So take that into account, things are always more fun in co-op no matter how bizarre we are.
I've found the game to be surprisingly good. Maybe not up to the hype, but not super far off. The hacking from your phone is super well done, it gives you a sort-of superpower, but you aren't invincible, and it doesn't always work. The 'real-world' part is particularly well done, with the only exception being the cars feeling really sloppy and hard to drive.
Overall, it's been a hell of a lot of fun. The story is interesting and bit better fleshed out than usual Ubi. It even has a little bit of that Deus Ex 'is this good?' wondering. Is it good to have an internet of things that people can hack and pull all data down?
It has the usual problems as modern games, waaay too much money, and unlockable collectibles that I could give a damn about. New suits, new chrome guns, 'special' cars, the usual. Walking down the street you hack people phones for fun and profit, and literally collect $10,000 in about 2 minutes.
One thing that is super-refreshing is that they don't newb you through things. No tutorial, no hint junk. There are a couple of spots where we actually got stuck, because it was not all obvious how to solve some problems. It's an actual game, not just an interactive movie.
Probably everyone has a different preference for games, but so far I've found it to be pretty great.
(*All in 2D, Compatbility Mode 3D here is so weak as to be unworthy, and you already know I'm crazy rabid about any 3D, and my standards aren't that high.)

Cool, that sounds quite promising, bob.
I'm glad that the hacking isn't always an insta-win. Certain abilities in AC and Far cry 3 always felt like instawins to me. But maybe they got the balance more like in ubi's fantastic Driver San Fransisco, where you had god-like powers that still required cunning and a bit of luck to properly exploit.
Do you think Watch Dogs will be modabble, at least for simpler things like money being too plentiful?
I'm shocked to hear that there's no tutorial or hints. Ubi has entered a Brave New World!

Based on what Mike said, it does seem like it should be moddable at least graphically. For other stuff, like money, I think that will depend a lot on the engine and scripting which is not very clear. But we do know that the hard-core modders are tenacious and cannot be stopped if they really want it.
No insta-win, not really. You have to time things right mostly, or be clever about how you use it. If you are racing from the cops, you can bring up bollards to crash them, or hit a traffic light- but you have to get the timing exactly right. It's pretty fun.
Just to be clear- there are actually hints available if you want them, but not in midstream game-play. After the 6th time Dead Space suggested "shoot their limbs" I was like OK, OK, I got it! In Watch Dogs, the hints are in the overview map, and are done as small videos that play next to what you select. It's a really terrific way to hide it unless you want it, and avoid a bunch of on-screen text. It's a great idea.

Wow, they really changed it, didn't they? Some things look better, but a hell of a lot of it looks decidedly worse.
btw, the car pileup in the E3 one (about 2 and a half minutes in) is ridiculous. About 10 cars appear at full speed from nowhere in what was previously a relatively quiet intersection.

I've seen car pileups close to that E3 demo in my short time with the game, he just got unlucky. It's funny actually, hack a traffic light and there's a pretty decent chance you'll see quite all the cars accelerate way faster than they normally would, because the game is trying to force crashes to happen.

I'm probably a bit of a psychopath, because whenever I get to an intersection I hit the traffic light just to cause the pile-up, and usually at least one car that burns until it explodes. They definitely overdo it, but I find it really fun, in a psycho way, where you are sort of a grey-hat guy instead, and not really supposed to be wreaking havoc. Not surprisingly, our reputation in the city is "menace".
On the other hand in GTA4, I spend untold time making the biggest traffic jams I could, without drawing police attention, and getting the first car to blow up, which would daisy chain to other cars. My best was 22 cars in a row.

"Hi Guys,
Just a reminder.
Downloading any 3rd party 'tool' - one which is not supplied by Ubisoft - may damage critical files and may render your game in-operpertive.
I would also warn you all about downloading files from untrusted sources - especially an exe file.
The team are investigating this tool - to see if it is safe to use, however those using it already - I would advise caution - due to the nature of it."

Also loving this game...
Played a good few hours but now going to wait & cross my fingers for a full 3D fix at some point..
I just love the driving in this game...
Driving though a city at night at 100+ mph while being chased is just a such BLAST & IMHO the best driving experience to date by a long way.. In FULL 3D it should be SIMPLY AMAZING...
This is the driving experience I was after when I bought my 3D Vision Projector set-up...
Def need to use joy-pad to enjoy the driving and also using the bumper camera view make the sense of speed incredible as you smash between two cars and jump over a bridge...
Pretty sure I re-created the chase scene from the Blue Brothers the other day...
So much fun...
Someone knows if Myke or somebody is working in a fix for true 3D?
Mike has said that he would like to look into fixing the shaders once we have the 3Dmigoto tool working.
I'm presently working on making 3Dmigoto work in x64. Mike can't do his magic until I get the tool working. Lots and lots of strange problems, but nothing show stopping so far. No ETA sorry, too complicated for us to give even a wild estimate. But in any case, it's the current game being worked on.
Current status is that I'm down to a single file the Decompiler, where I'm fixing warnings. Once all warnings are fixed, I can look more carefully. (warnings are often real bugs in x64, so it's a waste of time to debug stuff until warnings are fixed here.)
Also of note, I bought a GTX 760 4G to see if my research was right about needing more VRAM, and initial tests show that it definitely helps.
I expect to SLI 760 later, but even a single 760 (4G!) has been able to run the game with every single setting at maximum and maintain 50 fps on a 1280x720 2D. VRAM usage is about 3.4G at night.

Just tested Watchdogs @ my 3D Vision Surround Rig @ 5760*1080 @ GTX 780 3GB OC SLI.
What an awful experience guys. Compatibility Mode is unplayable because of heavy halos around the Ego.
Performance and Vram Usage is terrible. I have to leave native resolution to 3840*720 and quality settings overall @ medium to reduce the Vram Usage @ 2,5-2,7 GB. At this settings its playable with constant fps rates between 50-60 fps without drops.
The graphic output has nothing to do with next gen (my opinion), dont ask me why this game pushes my Rig over the edge.
I count on you guys and hope the best.
