How important is CPU performance for 3d vision?
Apparently, Joker wasn't honest in his benchmarks. Sad. I hope this is just some kind of simple misunderstanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWarC_Nygew
I was just about to come back here and post that! Also, I don't know if you watched all of jokers games in action, but there were quiet a few instances of some serious microstutter in the i7 machine that wasn't happening in the ryzen. The weird thing is, in my experience anyway, the frametimes will capture this stutter. Watching instances where there were obvious stutters I didn't see a dip in frametime. I wouldn't think down-clocking the cpu to 4 ghz would cause this... Perhaps if you also lowered the voltages too low? This is something Joker needs to address. He's good friends with steve from gamersnexus, so they both have a reputation to uphold. Nobody will ever take his bench-marking seriously if he was indeed purposefully crippling performance of one platform to make another look better.

I lost the silicon lottery and got a mediocre-bad chip. I'm running at 1.49v for gaming stable (higher than 1.4 is not recommended, though 1.51 is max that Intel recommends). I'm using LLC @ highest levels to push the voltage to 1.56V under heavy load. It is not fully 24 hour Prime stable nor AVX stable at 5.1GHz, but at 5.0GHz, it should be if I wanted it. For gaming, 5.1 is solid even with games using AVX. There is a real possibility that the chip will degrade going into the future, but I'm taking the risk - tried to make the best of a bad situation. More than anything else, it all comes down to luck in the silicon lottery. What's your voltage on Xeon 5650 4.4 GHz? I was running Xeon 5660 @ 1.44v for 4.4GHz Prime stable for years. I don't think your Vcore will be as high as mine, just letting you know that 1.44v was perfectly safe on my chip; you might be able to get a few hundred more MHz out of your chip, for what it's worth.
I read that 1.4 v is the max safe for 24/7 use on Kaby Lake. Man, whenever I get a new CPU I treat that shit like it's an ancient artifact recently uncovered. I know CPU's are very hearty, but this is expensive equipment and you're definitely voiding the warranty by doing this. Do you agree with this digital foundry review. Apparently there is an option in motherboards to get the turbo boost on all cores to hit 4.5 ghz. They got there's up to 4.8 obviously with extra voltage, heat, power ect. So i'm assuming they didn't de-lid them. According to them the performance gain isn't worth the extra effort going from 4.5 to 4.8. Ofcourse there are people hitting 5-5.2. SO perhaps an extra 500-700 mhz would be worth it. Thoughts? He also mentioned messing with AVX to achieve these higher overclocks which is why they recommend leaving it and just boosting all cores to 4.5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43g3OTK2AbE

I know there are people out there that want to push these chips to the absolute max, and that's awesome. I don't want to go that far though and want to be as safe as possible with whatever overclock I do.

I can care less about an overclock at this point since It doesn't mean better 3D Vision performance. MY non 3D Vision played games are just fine without the magical 5 OC

As far as I know, all OC oriented motherboards force turbo on all cores as standard, including mine. Can confirm all benchmarks maxing 5.1Ghz on all physical and virtual cores. Heat all comes down to the voltage used. If you use <1.35v then heat really shouldn't be an issue. I was worried about delidding too, but it was far easier that I expected in the end. Just make sure to clean the CPU contacts before insertion. To re-attach the heat spreader, I used 4 dabs of super glue on each corner, and left it for an hour pressed with the motherboard socket before attaching the AIO. 4.8 isn't that big - if you are not worried too much about OC ability, and your case has good flow, I would stick with the NH-D14 - superb cooler from what I have read, and no liquid headaches. I came across a lot of reviews and forum posts saying how mediocre AIOs are not worth it for reliability - either go top end AIO or custom loop, or stick with passive + dual fan. I hve noo experience with the cooler you linked, but AFAIK, thermaltake is a good make.
