PC Crash everytime I enable 3d vision with windows 10
1 / 3
Hi, first, my gear:
asus p6x58d premium, i7 920, 12Gb RAM, gtx 1070, g-sync monitor (acer xb270h), windows 10 64b
When I was in windows 7, 3d vision worked like a charm. After upgrading to windows 10, pc crashes everytime I enable 3d vision in nvidia control pannel. After the forced reboot, I can enable safely 3d vision and play, until the next time I need to disable/enable again.
So, it's very strange. At the first attemp enabling 3d vision, screen flashes several times and then goes to black (I have to reset/reboot). After the reboot, there is no problem enabling 3d vision.
I have windows 10 upgraded. A friend adviced me to do a fresh install but I'd prefer not doing it unless 100% necessary.
NOTE: I have reinstalled drivers, DDU method, etc...
Any ideas?
PD: Sorry for my bad english.

So, you run DDU and reinstalled the drivers and you still have the same issue?
Have you tried swapping the USB port? Plug the emitter in a different USB port.
When you get a crash... Is it a Blue Screen? What error does it show/report?
What build of Windows 10 are you running? Windows 10 + Anniversary Patch?
Cheers!

Hi helifax. I Have used a lot of your 3d mods :-D
I'll try the USB switch. No, it's not a blue screen. The screen goes to black, it flashes 2 or 3 times (as it were trying to engage) and then pc remains with screen in black untill I reboot it. Sometimes, I can see and move the mouse pointer, but it is the only thing I can see on screen. Other times pc hangs totally.
I think that I don't have the anniversary update but I'm not sure 100% (I have windows 10 pro with the "delayed updates" option on)
Thanks

This happens to me almost all the time when I start a game if the 3D vision emitter has been off for a while and to fix this I use HWiNFO64 to re-detect all my devices including the emitter, so using this program will turn it on again before I start the game in 3D (the alternative would be to replug the 3D emitter but using a program to redetect it is much easier).
The black screen also happens sometimes when I exit a game that has been using 3D vision so I use Hotkey Resolution Changer to reset my monitor refresh rate and fix this issue without having to unplug the 3D monitor or restart my PC.
Also I've been having this issue since Windows 8 but it was a lot worse, causing blue screens. At least now on Windows 10 I'm just getting a black screen that can be fixed with the workarounds I mentioned.
All in all I'm not sure what the problem is but I'm 99% certain it happens because the 3D emitter goes offline after some time and Windows is having problems re-activating it. Weird thing is that about 1 in 50 times the 3D emitter does not go offline at all, that is until I restart my PC.

Hi Kaimastah. I'm with you. I think it has to do with a period of non 3d usage and then trying to kicking it on again. Right now I have turned my pc on and it was already in 3d mode (as it was yesterday when I turned off) and everything (games) is all right.
I'll try to switch to g sync mode, turn off, turn on, enable 3d mode ant let's see.
Oh! I'm not sure but I think I have seen the green led form the emitter off sometimes. I'll pay attention about this too.
EDIT: OK, about this last, is it normal that after (just 2 minutes) playing a 3d game, the green light of the emitter goes off? I'm not sure but I think that with windows 7 light was always on. Darker when not playing, but on. Using HWINFO64 kicks the light on again, so this could be my lifeguard for now. Thanks Kaimastah!

Glad that it works. The black screen happens to me only if the emitter is off for a period of time. I have tried a lot of things to make it so that the 3D emitter light is always on, including changing USB power settings and modifying some Windows registries but no matter what setting I change it always turns itself off after 2 minutes.
I think nVidia implemented a suspend timer in a past driver which is apparently enabled only on Windows 8 and 10 because I've never had this thing happen on Win 7 and neither on Win 8 until I installed a certain nVidia driver at some point.
So for now I just have to remember to re-detect the 3D emitter, which can be done by replugging it or going to Device Manager and double-clicking on the 3D vision adapter or (the easiest way I found) running HWINFO64, before I start gaming in 3D. This kinda sucks but there's nothing else I could find to prevent the black screen/blue screen from happening.

Ok, this is driving me crazy. Just after been playing in 3d, with green light on, I have just deactivated 3d mode in nvidia control pannel, and crash! Again, screen to black, several flashes and hang.
The next step will be reinstall windows 10 from scratch

I doubt it will solve this problem since this issue persisted for me even after I did a fresh install of Windows 10. Using Display Driver Uninstaller in Safe Mode did not fix anything either. I mentioned another issue above which apparently you are also experiencing. This second issue is that sometimes the screen goes black also when you disable 3D vision from the Control Panel or when you exit a game. To solve this second issue I use another program called Hotkey Resolution Changer that resets the display. I use two hotkeys in the program: one for 144hz and one for 120hz.
If you don't want to use this program I suggest you do a test. Replug your monitor in the videocard and see if this fixes the black screen whenever you turn off 3D vision (whether you were in a game or you just disabled 3D vision from the Control Panel).

Did you disable Power Saver on your USB port?
Power->Advanced Settings->USB settings-> USB selective suspend setting. Set to Disable.
The emitter should never ever go completely dark, while your PC is on.

I have tried everything including disabling USB Power Saving and I've even tested with another device to make sure that the port is not power saving but no matter what I do the emitter still goes dark. A friend of mine has the same issue and I've seen a lot of other people do too. Weird thing is that sometimes like really rarely the emitter does not go offline.

Strange...
You can also check your BIOS and see if there are any suspending states there related to USB power

Yeah that's the only thing I haven't checked but it doesn't make sense since only the emitter goes offline and not other devices. One other thing is that the emitter blinks a few times like a warning that it's about to go off so I'm not sure if that's intended from nVidia or not.

You are describing exactly the same behaviour I'm having. Green light blinks several times and then goes off.
Besides, I have tested the HWINFO64 and the hotkey resolution changer (as well as unplugging and replugging the screen) and nothing. The hang is absolute.
SO, for now, the only way to switch from g sync to 3d mode and vice versa, is forcing a hang and resetting the pc. Then, after the reboot I can make the change in nvidia control pannel safely.
AND, I can confirm that with windows 7, green light were ALWAYS on (although darker when not in use). With windows 10, the emitter is having the behaviour explained above. So, nothing to do with BIOS, I have not changed anything in bios when upgrading to windows 10.
Thanks

That blinking before going dark is definitely the Windows 10 power saving feature. Some other way or code is turning the power off.
I've been running into this sort of problem as well, and I'm finding Win10 to be super irritating. It feels like they have taken over my computer and locked me out. I need to be able to control all aspects of my system, dammit.
