My personal opinion is that it's a stupid idea to synchronize 3D glasses via white or red flashes as there are better technologies like bluetooth / IR / by radio. There's more overhead to filter those flashes by the glasses. That's unnecessary in my opinion. But I'm glad it generally works pretty well except for the eye reversal thing.

Generic CRT is just what it sounds like, it was originally made for CRT displays prior to LCD monitor being a thing. It works via VGA or HDMI. Dunno about DP

When looking at Amazon there are generally not much DLP glasses on the market. Mainly Hi-Shock glasses and other glasses which are labeled under other name but actually they are Hi-Shock glasses, too. Optoma and BenQ glasses are actually Hi-Shock glasses, too. They also look exactly the same (apart from the color). Xpand glasses are one of the few which are not just only relabeled.

Of course this is why many of us prefer to use Nvidia's glasses via an EDID override. Typically, it is just the power button. Instead of a quick press to turn them on, you hold it down. I bought my glasses a long time ago, at the time, there wasn't too many choices. I bought TrueDepth 3D. They have some new ones with some snake oil sync technology. Also some people claim that the DLP Link Flash washes out the image and/or distracts them because they see a flicker. No idea what they are talking about, it's never been an issue for me. So have you tried 144Hz, if the glasses accept it, I've been curious if it's possible with generic crt. Or have you tried 240Hz 2D?

I have to add, I did some back to back testing a few years ago between my 3d vision glasses and DLP link glasses. It was on a viewsonic projector which natively supported 3d vision. Intuitively, you'd think that the DLP flash would wash the image out, but this simply wasn't the case in my experience and net result was the exactly the same in terms of image quality/crosstalk etc. As much as I have a love/hate relationship with HDMI and it's stupid arbitrary limitations, I don't believe display port to be the panacea either. It suffers from similar issues over longer cable runs, so buyer beware. I've been through tons of long run HDMI cables in the last few years and it's a really frustrating experience. Price and AWG (wire thickness) does not reflect the success rates. I'm not sure but I think there is a severe bug when I invert 3D sync in projector menu. In the middle of the screen I see a vertical line then - it looks like tearing. First I thought it would be vsync not enabled in the game but that's not the reason. Also it is very stressful for the eyes when playing 3D when inverted sync is enabled. When not moving the camera everything looks fine in the game but as soon you move around you get the tearing... very strange thing. My workaround currently is to not invert the sync in the projector menu. Instead I press F11 in 3dmigoto fixed games for switching to reversed 3D Vision shader if I have to. And for DirectX 9 games a workaround is to switch off 3D in the projector menu - then turn it back on. With 50% chances the sync is correct then. Unfortunately when I press the power button on my DLP glasses they are switched off instead of being resynced / sync inverted. @D-Man11: unfortunately those True Depth 3D glasses are not sold in Germany @rustyk21: Thanks I'll buy your suggested cable if the 7.5m CSL cable I ordered does not work either.
