I own the Acer. For those looking for a 3D screen, it's excellent for gaming. From Tom's Hardware review, the gist I got was:
1) If you don't mind odd on-screen controls and the lack of height/swivel adjustment options, then the $400 Acer is what you want.
2) If the height adjustment and swivel is a big deal for you, and if you can't stand monitors that don't have pristine controls, then the $500 Alienware is what you want.
The quality is excellent on both monitors - it just depends how much luxury you want.
Well I've finally 'aquired' enough cash to go 3D, my question for the poll is which 1 of the 2 in the title you would get [or have got], and why.
I've read alot from other users and reviewers, but still can't make up my mind.
I really need help with this decision so any advice would be greatly appriciated :).
I was exactly like you and today i bought the Alienware! So i hope its worth the £400.
From what ive read i belive the aw2310 has better image quality and brightness but the Acer has a slightly less ghosting.
Either way there wont be a new screen for a little while yet and with next (confirmed?) one being the Asus at 27" i'd it expect it to be more expensive.

@ EG Thanks, mate.. I'll be sure to post my feelings on the monitor and the 3D experience in general.
@ LumpOfCole I'm not too worried about the asthetics, after all I usually play in the dark /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' /> . Build quality is however an issue though, but most importantly it's the quality of the actual panel that will make my decision.
@ Adz.. Good to know, and I hope the AW turns out to be the right choice for you :).
@ Chris, hmm really, I thought it looked okish.. and the orange would actually go with my G15 keyboard /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

I was in the same boat but went for the AW. Dunno about the Acer but I really feel like I got my moneys worth with this monitor. Fantastic build quality. The monitor really looks and feels expensive. And to be honest, I haven't had any noticeable ghosting anyways so I wouldn't factor that in very much.

There's a review comparing the two here: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/3D-Monitor-Ace...eview-1506.html
I have the AW and cannot get enough of it... I run the alien at the lowest depth most of the time and convergence up only a little bit and most of everything runs amazing with great pop-out effects. I would recommend the alien to anyone. /sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' />

Originally I had my eye on the Acer, but after reading comments on both and seeing that it was sale, I decided to go with the Alienware. I wont be receiving my vision kit for a couple more weeks, therefore cannot comment on it's 3D ability. However, 3D aside, I am very pleased with the build quality and 2D performance.
I found this comparison/review earlier today that might help. http://www.tomsguide.com/us/3D-Monitor-Ace...eview-1506.html

Personally owning, the Samsung 2233RZ, a Samsung 305T and the new Acer I can say after calibration, white levels(contrast saturatiion) on the Lagom test is very good, missing only 3 blocks (I guess not as good as their 2 blocks) but not as bad as what they say. Might differ from each panel I suppose.
The other thing is there are GTG tests on lagom also and Seeing as I see almost 70 % less double imaging or ghosting from the 2233RZ (which is rated at 3MS) the Acer is definitely better. Also they state it is advertised as 3ms... WRONG, it's 2MS and makes the biggest difference.
As far as I see it comes down to this:
If you want this monitor for 3D gaming, get the Acer (it's better for it).
If you want it as your primary display and will be doing all gaming on it, go for the Alienware probably.
I myself have a 30" 305T as I can't stand to play some of my games on a TN panel. the Acer is a good panel for 3D gaming, but I might just be picky but I can't stand TN panels for anything else. Anyone who says different need glasses.
Also I would take the Tom's HW article with a grain of salt. IMO they have some of the worst reviews. Acer or Alienware theyre both getting you almost the same kind of display. But if you are only doing 3D gaming, get the acer.

Thanks for all your comments guys, I did check out that review along with a few others and to be honest I'm more inclined to go by what you, the end users suggest. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Acer as it's more within my price range, and from what you guys are saying the major differences are in the build quality and asthetics of the frame and stand, which I can live with.
Once again huge thanks to every1 who has contributed.

I got the Alienware and here is what I think of it. (Note I have never actually compared it side by side with anything and this is my first 3D Vision experience)
2D Gaming: This thing is awesome. Animation is so smooth when things are moving fast you don’t miss a bit of detail. Motion blurring? What are you talking about? Haha! Color quality is quite nice the contrast is good enough I rarely miss an enemy at distance due to darkness or something of that nature. Brightness is a little low out of the box it seems initially, but the setting out of the box is 50%. I found also that because of how its backlight handles dynamic contrast with the brightness at default when going from a completely black screen it take just a short moment to be bright the way it should be when the screen lights up. This has never impacted anything in my games in any manner or outside of my games. Just an observation not a complaints. I got this monitor for the 120hz refresh with the idea of improving my ability to see when turning super fast in counter-strike: source … I am somewhat competitive.
I compare this to my Acer G24 1920x1200 2ms gtg response 80,000:1 dynamic contrast (this was an awesome gaming lcd in its day)
3D Gaming: Seems good, ghosting on most games is non-existent or very minimal. The often lamented strip along the top and bottom of LCDs in 3D vision that shows double imaging is no more wide than an inch on the top and once the monitor has been running in 3D for 5 or 10 minutes it is very faint. I never notice it in game play. The fact default brightness at 50% is enough I can reduce any darkness caused by the LCD shutter glasses by turning this up. Usually I don’t even feel the need to do this.
Overall awesome monitor and I am happy with the $500.00 I spent and I am also happy I opted to get the 3D Vision Kit as well. I played through a few games with it now and I feel games are lacking something when I play in 2D (except for competitive shooters) … I guess I am spoiled! XD

Ahh counterstrike, I did my time in that department.. Only just weened myself off it recently with the help of Borderlands + the fact I realized I had become a total awp *****.
It's all very well having 1000's of $'s worth of hardware in your box, but the screen is the end product of this, and the thing you end up looking at the most, so in my opinion you have to try and be sure to make the right choice.. And if money was no object I think I would definately go with the AW, alas over here in England the Acer is £150 less [$230] so I think that may well have to play a part in my final choice.
Thanks MistaP, you and the rest of you guys that have helped me come to an informed decision, for that I am very grateful /thanks.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thanks:' /> .
I'm off to hover over some buy buttons.. Maybe a stiff drink would help ;) .

Ah yes CSS. I have been waiting for a shooter to pull me away from CSS but to date it has not happened and I am almost expecting it not to. No potentially competitive online shooter has come out since CSS that has the precision that CSS has. They all now have inaccurate soft or sloppy controls. Why? Because of consoles. You can play MW2 on console or keyboard fine but it is just a spraytard fiesta the pinpoint wrist flip accuracy is non-existent … at least comparing it to CSS or Q3A. I hear people say you can be just as good in a shooter with a controller as you can with a mouse. Maybe in halo … in games like CSS no one will ever be able to use a controller and be even remotely competitive with mousers. I used to awp whore a bit aswell, but I am pretty good with any gun. Now, just to be insulting, I only use a deagle. evilsmurfs.hlstatsx.com Check my stats (rank 1 name [CS]BartholomewPSkibbenheimsIII, 80% of the kills are deagle (nearly 20k deagle kills lol) 80% of my kills are headshots.) yes I am bragging lol.
Ahh drinking and buying things. I bought my AW after a Saturday night at the bar lol jack daniels always has good advice for me.

I'm off to hover over some buy buttons.. Maybe a stiff drink would help ;) .
It's all very well having 1000's of $'s worth of hardware in your box, but the screen is the end product of this, and the thing you end up looking at the most, so in my opinion you have to try and be sure to make the right choice..
