Asus VG278H going into 3D mode when 2 PDFs are open 3D mode seems erratic!
  1 / 2
When i open up two PDFs on my asus the screen goes into 3d mode, despite them being normal PDF's. Ive noticed this behavior with other things but at first i didnt know what was happening so didnt take note to which programs this happened with.

Can anyone help with this? Is this a driver problem or do I have a defective screen (however unlikey that seems i know)

Just checked on the same display with 2 PDFs open, version 10.1.3 and 3D mode was not activated, Have not heard of any similar issues like this unfortunately.

Does the Control T hotkey work in disabling it?

Same version as me, are you using windows 7? No i can not turn it off by pressing Ctrl T, although this works as normal when 3D is activated for games etc. As far as i can tell there is no way to disable this other then turning of 3D... yawn, would rather not have to keep turning it on and offwhich id obviously rather not have to do. It'sfrustrating as i use PDFs a lot and usually have a few open, Is the driver for this monitor all rolled up in the nvidia drivers (as i cant seem to find any drivers on the Asus website for this monitor.)

If not i will simply try removing all traces of the nvidia driver and reloading them tomorrow sometime. Is there anything special i need to do to completly remove your drivers other then uninstall in windows? like any settings that save in user folder etc?

Thanks for your help.

Ergh, just thoguht id try it before bed, no luck! Uninstalled drivers, deleted Nvidia folders in program files and roaming user dir, reintalled with latest drivers, same problem! Only bought this screen last week so i could send it back if faulty, but seems like a weird glitch so think it would be driver related. Any news on completly resetting the drivers completly would be appreciated.

TYhis screen 2 days a go got stuck in a loop turning 3D on and off (now that i recall) on a 3d Blog website. I had to cntl alt delete to close IE to get out of the loop as the screen was changing every 2-3 seconds so too quick for me to close the website.

also is there any way of making the DVI out only become the primary dvi outpit on the GTX 680? I have my TV in the DVI analog port, which means i dont get to see the boot etc on my monitor.

Thanks for any help, and if anyone else has had or has this problem please chime in!

Yes, Win 7 64 bit, only using the Acrobat viewer/reader though maybe an issue with complete version ill have to get that installed to check.

Drivers are loaded via Windows and not part of our driver packages.

Driver install, I would recommend doing a "Custom" install rather than Express and check the box for "perform clean installation"

Not sure if i fully understand the references to the DVI ports here, I usually only see analog in reference to VGA/Dsub, not DVI ports. If switching the connections doesn't work you could try setting the Asus display as the primary display in the "Set up multiple displays" section of the NVIDIA control panel, by right clicking the Icon for the Asus display and selecting "Make primary"

Also in regards to the 3D issue, a temporary work around might be to check the box off in the "Set up Stereoscopic 3D", Check the box for "Hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts" This might help in 3D not triggering when you open a PDF as it does with games.

Tried that already, it doesnt work unfortunatly. I am emailing ASUS now and trying to get to the bottom of this before thurday incase i need to return the monitor. For the time being i will simply disable 3D and turn it on only when i need it... annoying.

as for the output

the GTX has two DVI outputs, one allows for both VGA and Digital and seems to be the primary output, the other is only DVI. I have my tv connected, but its old so only has VGA. Therefore i connect it to the primary videooutput of the GTX 680, and my monitor to the DVI only output which seems to be the secondary (This problem didnt happen on the gtx 580 as the secondary output also supported VGA.)

So at the moment with the current config, the boot process happens on my tv (which i most of the time leave off) and then once windows laods, windows has it set to only show monitor 1 (which i have selected to be my primary screen.

So my Question was, is there anyway to get the DVI only output on the GTX to be the primary output so that i can watch my boot without having to access my TV (as i will be going into my bias a lot and the last thing i want to do is sit at a right angle to my keyboard to view it on my pc all the time)

Thanks for your help and super quick responses josh. Will also be psoting on asus forum, will update with any findings.

Ok so here is a temporary fix that seems best. I have selected to only display 3D effect when in fullscreen. This does mean no more windowed 3D, but thats something i have only used on a few websites anyway so can live with for now. Hopefully i can get to the bottom of this, as it must be driver related, as adobe is triggering it on my PC 100% of the time... wonder why.

Im going to file a bug on our end and have our QA here attempt to reproduce this here locally, will update the you/thread when I hear back. I suspect this is a driver issue and not a monitor related issue. But can not be certain.

When you are viewing the PDF files are you viewing them right on your machine or are you browsing to them so Adobe is running inside your browser window? (Somebody in another thread mentioned that 3D was kicking in on them when they were web surfing.)

I have found I end up in 3D mode when I don't want to. Not with PDFs...but iTunes does it! When you display album art for all your albums, so you can slide through them it goes into 3D mode!

I can reproduce the iTunes, 3D mode activation. Will get this bug filed so this can be addressed.
