With the lack of 3D vision information and the hype generated by Oculus Rift, do you guys think that nVidia will not just announce an improved 3D Vision tech but an actual VR helmet to compete with the Rift? I mean, if you look at it, the Rift will be a monopoly when it comes out.
It's probably a far-fetched thing, but for a company of that size it should be possible to create something decent to compete with the Rift.

I don't think they will. Until Oculus proves it's a major market, I think they have their eyes set on larger fish.
Not only that, but to compete, they'd have to drop their high margin, proprietary format game. Because that's not going to work when the competition is about competitive pricing and open standards. That seems against their DNA. It's also not as easy as people think to just outspend Oculus on R&D. The problems that need solving are well understood. It's not about throwing money at the problem, it's about throwing brain power at it. And in this regard, Oculus is a behemoth.

Not saying they are but proprietary is what wins console wars. The only difference from PS3/XBOX for last like 5 years are the games they bought out. Nintendo thrives on it.
Not to mention there revenue will be more substantial then rifts. They could even finance support. Money is pretty important considering costs of development now adays. I mean there aren't even many games announced support yet, and alot of developers who have it planned used it as part of kickstarter "tiers".
TBH, I think they are more likely to build a 3D device then a VR. VR is great but its so impractical that a game practically must be built around it or with it in mind. Not to mention not to many games are applicable. 3D device would be much more large scale on effected games especially considering they can improve that themselves.

Actually, Steam Dev Days are a few days away, and they are going to be populated with VR news, even today The Gallery Six Elements announced they will be there, Palmer Luckey will give a talk, and Valve will show their HMD and more. Now that we know Nvidia skipped CES 2014 for a 3d announcement, and Valve Dev Days will be in a few days, maybe they will finally show something 3D/VR related.
