Games you have played in 3D recently... and thought were good.
3 / 5
Well I'm off from work this week so I'm gonna try and get through my Steam games and post thoughts on each 1 when I've tried them in 3D, I'll probably not spend too much time on each game as the list is quite long.
Dirt 2
Took about half an hour to set up, most of that time being dedicated to getting my Momo steering wheel working. Having played Grid, and being armed with the knowledge that both games run on the same engine, I should have known there would be gremlins here. The rest of the time was dedicated to getting 3D on and a bit of minor tweaking for an improved look. I don't have DX11 capable hardware, so at least I didn't have that to worry about too.
As I'd just picked up a tip from another thread on these forums that suggested 100% depth worked well, I thought I would try it out on this game. I was glad I did, as with low - med depth there was considerable ghosting. Once I switched to 100% depth and altered the convergence [enable hot keys in NVCP - then use ctrl+F5/F6] most of the ghosting had gone and the effect of 'pop out' was more pronounced [especially in the game menus]. As I said before this game runs on the same engine as Grid, therefore I wasn't too surprised to find it suffers the same problems as Grid although maybe to a lesser degree. Shadows appear at the wrong depth and can't be turned off, I tried changing them to 'ultra-low' but that just makes matters worse as it doesn't reduce their impact on the game, it just reduces the image quality. Dust that's kicked up by other cars also looks as if it's at the wrong depth, I managed to disable this by turning off particles in the game options, however this tweak does give the overall game a poorer image quality. These 2 issues aren't show stoppers in my opinion [and I'm fussy about my games], but they do take away from the immersion factor a bit.
Having just come off the back of NFS Shift, I've decided to start playing car games from the c0ckpit view, for me this enhances the realism and also shows off 3D nicely. However 1 of the features of Dirt 2 is when you go through puddles, water is splashed on your windscreen and you have zero visibility for a few seconds until your windscreen wipers come on and do their job. Not a bad idea and I guess it's subjective whether you think this is a nice touch or not, I personally find it quite annoying. Frame rates are acceptable with my hardware, I'd say I was getting on average 40-50 FPS, with the occasional slow down when there are lots of cars in view [inherent with codemaster racing games].
For the main part though, it's an enjoyable game in 3D, not up to the standards of NFS Shift, but better [in terms of 3D image quality] than Grid. It's a great feeling when you can control that slide all the way round a long tight bend and come powering out the other end in front.
As of the time of writing this post you can still pick Dirt 2 up from Steam for £7.49, which is a complete bargain no matter which way you slice it :).

Sega All Stars Racing.
Rock solid performance and is a fun game in my book, might not be in everyone's taste but any sega fan should liken it to sega's version of mario kart
I fired up the old Mafia game from like 2002? I think. Looks fantastic for as old as it is - especially in 3D. I remember trying it with some old Asus goggles that came with a Geforce 3 card and the 3d Vision of today runs circles around that old hardware.

Steam is having a sale this weekend. You can get ALL the codemasters racing games for $17 total. That is 5 games for $17, including Dirt 2, Dirt, GRID and others. An amazing deal, even if the games could be supported better in 3D.

Audiosurf is a game spawned from the Guitar Hero craze [which I have pretty much clocked], it's only a small game and basically involves moving your mouse from side to side to hit the blocks in time with the music, although there is a little more to it than that. The music can come from your own MP3 collection or their radio collection. It's quite easy to start off with but as you compare your scores with other players you see it could take quite a while to perfect.
As with Dirt 2 I decided to play with 100% depth, this game really suits it once you have adjusted convergence, and definitely adds a whole new element to the game, in fact I'd say it turns a fairly boring affair into an awesome experience.
Although it's probably still only got half an hour of game play in any given session. I'd say this would be a great one to show off 3D to your friends [once they've stopped laughing at your Bonnie Tyler collection ;)].
As of the time of making this post it is available on Steam for £5.99, where there is also a free demo.

Agreed Audiosurf is stonking in 3D. Superb depth and popout!
Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I'm yo-yoing between Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2 at near maxed out settings on a 480.
Finding those small creatures in Metro that scream and run at you the most scary experiance I've ever had in 3d. Yet to try AvP in 3d though.
I seam to be flying planes around constantly in Just Cause 2; I can't believe the miles of depth it has, looks so real in places, Loving it to be honest :)
I did try Heaven benhmark in 3d too but it's got too much ghosting etc.

I got a new pc this week with 3d setup and a gtx480, my xbox feels a bit dated now
Metro 2033 - great game and physically scares me, looks awesome in 3d
Avatar - best graphics on any game in 3d but got uninstalled after I realised the actual game was rubbish
Crysis - fun but rubbish in 3d, as I had 3d games and it wouldn't play ball in win 7 64bit it got uninstalled
Dawn of war 2 - lovely in 3d and something which isn't a shooter, enjoying this one
Battlefield - I love it, graphics are gorgeous but spending a lot of time trying to get rid of ghosting
Tomb Raider Underworld - shouldn't have bought it, graphics are nice but Tomb raider frustrates me, it was only £5 off amazon
Dirt 2 - didn't like it, prob because I'm trying to play it like sega rally, liked grid on xbox so may install that - yea i got the steam deal cos it was cheap
So Metro, Battlefield and Dawn of war are the only ones left on my system atm

I tried recently Ninja Blade and was really surprised since it was amazing in many aspects. It has incredible depth and popout, however many little glitches become annoying, quick time events always start with a wrong depth screen that's very annoying, and the qte themselves are a mixed bag, still when it works it's really a showcase game. Besides the game is a lot of fun

Guys... I'm paying Gears Of War with minimum depth, but a lot of convergence (Just when your eyes won't suffer) I found it very nice and the crosshair isn't a problem that way.
The characters looks like "action figures" though... but gives you great "pop out" effects and sense of "spacing"

Odd 1 this, the game worked well in 3D, with little or no ghosting, and most objects seemed to be at the correct depth [although I did turn shadows off]. Unfortunately I don't really think this genre lends itself to 3D that well, I ended up playing the last 3 quarters of the game in 2D, and found it easier to concentrate on what was going on, without really missing the 3D effect. This game is 1 of the few that supports dual monitor set ups, in that you can use your secondary display for the tactical ]all the way zoomed out] map. With 3D enabled I lose this function as the 2nd monitor being on causes flickering.
I'm not putting this game in the sister thread as it didn't really have any major problems, and the fact that I didn't really feel it added much was purely subjective.
The game itself is quite enjoyable, I completed the single player in about a week, playing a couple of hours a day, and although the story line was a bit flimsy, the game play was very enjoyable. I played SupCom 1 and Forged Alliance extensively, and was really looking forwards to this game, and although it's very different, and even a step back in terms of graphics [optimized for all types of system], I still thought it was a good sequel. Overall though I would say I preferred the 1st one.

From a Windows 7, GTX 480 EVGA Superclocked, I-7 920 cpu perspective.
Assassins Creed = Worth playing if you havent played this game already. 3D only adds to the game, nothing to complain. Sound on the other hand has something to be desired.
Assassins Creed 2 = Must play. 3D brings the city to life, as you jump, run, climb, and fall in the living 3D world. It's good enough to make me play twice. Imagine ''In 3D'' taking out a guard on top of a tall building, grabbing the body, tossing it to the street, and jumping into the water on the other side. Fun
Star Wars TFU = If you can ignore the distortion of force powers in 3D, seeing your character swing and slice an enemy in 3D has never been more entertaining, though the controls and story have something to be desired.
Need for Speed Shift Demo = I have never been a fan for racing games, Yet with 3D this game actually entertains me. FREE DEMO
Just Cause 2 Demo = 3D works great, frame rate needs work. I cant stand to play this game without 3D. FREE DEMO
Myst Online Uru Live = Game is FREE, google it. Don't play this game until you have 3D. MUST PLAY. This game pushed me to try 3D vision discover, which brought me to full 3D vision! You can explore in 3D with friends!
Dragon Age: Origins = Hud annoyance, If you can decrease depth till it's comfortable, you will get another full playthrough just because of 3D.
Far Cry = Dissapointed the advanced HD setting can't be on, but the game itself in 3D is ok. Walking on a 3D island is awesome! You can kill the crosshair though the ingame console. \HUD_CROSSHAIR 0
Red Alert 3 = I found it impossible to play at max depth. Playing with 20% depth is amazing anyway. Ironicly playing in 3D makes the game even more cartoon like.
Left for Dead 2 = Crosshair is in 3d! Game is more natural in 3D, but I felt the camera was too far back from where my characters POV actually was due to 3D. I would not recommend buying it based on 3D alone.
Avatar Demo = Great visuals as everyone has stated. All settings maxed and in 3D I get 30-40 FPS. The game is a joke. It's broken in terms of tatical combat. FREE DEMO
Max Payne 2 = Dodging bullets in 3D is a must try.
Prince of Persia (2008) = Must play! The game is down right fun in 3D. Played through it 3 times.
Serious Sam HD: FE = Fire is not rendered in 3D. but I found myself able to forgive and have a blast with my bro.
Lord of the Rings Online = Im suprised this game is nice in 3D. Fire is not in 3D, but doesnt destroy the game. FREE TRIAL
World In Conflict = 20-30 FPS with max settings. Amazing game to try in 3D. FREE DEMO
Wallace and Gromit = Oh yes! works well in 3D. FREE DEMO
Tomb Raider: Underworld = If you dont know the answer to this one, read above posts.
Command and Conquer Generals = Sweet in 3D. I keep trying to pull the camera back though, spoiled by supreme commander.
Supreme Commander = Not practical to play in 3d due to everything is moving at different levels.
Portal = FREE for a short while on Steam! Must try for 3D. It actually helps the challenges become easier.
Audio Surf = 3D makes it great, though the game becomes dull within 10 minutes. FREE DEMO
Commander Keen = Must try.... and no, 3D does not work.
Mount and Blade = Only worth playing in 3D, and in 3D the game is superb. FREE to try.
Spore = An experience you won't forget if played in 3D. Not worth buying though if you havent already.
I think thats enough for now. I hope this helps you all out there. /stud.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':stud:' />

Rock solid performance and is a fun game in my book, might not be in everyone's taste but any sega fan should liken it to sega's version of mario kart

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
