Specific issues with ghosting in games
  1 / 2
Hey everybody, I've been keeping up with most of the posts on ghosting and I was wondering if anyone is having the same problems I have. I'm having issues with just certain "items" in a game having extreme ghosting problems. For example, in World of Warcraft, things such as camp fires, or more annoyingly, my Death Knights mount which has flaming hooves, or the glowey enchant the stoneskin gargoyle enchant provides on a weapon, the weapon enchant one being the biggest problem, I see a pretty noticeable ghosting pattern to the left typically. Another example when playing portal is the ceiling lights, especially when you look at them through panes of glass.

For World of Warcraft, I've changed the convergence to the point where the ghosted image (Glowing crap on my character) becomes in sync, however, images far in the distance begin to ghost then. Or if I scroll the camera view out far enough it'll start to ghost again (As the field of view is now different). Or for portal, if I change the convergence to make bright lights in sync, it'll pull everything else out of sync.

I was wondering if anyone else has had these same issues, I've checked the glasses under a few of the ghosting templates posted on the forums, and I typically get between 10-20% ghosting for most of the images, which seems in line with most people.

I'll try to get a screenshot in a little bit when I get back on either game.

I'm currently running two 9800 GTX's in SLI, a 2.66 I7 with 4 gigs of RAM, running the 1.08 Windows 7 (64 bit) drivers.

I uploaded 3 images I took of portal looking at the lights, the first is normal convergence (Didn't mess with it), and low depth, you can easily see the ghosting on my end through the 3d viewer
The second image is a high depth, normal convergence, image is even worse
The last image is low depth, but a high enough convergence to merge the lights, obviously no good.

Edit -
Posted the WoW SS's I have too.
First, I get this issue no matter how much I adjust the convergence and the depth, I try to keep at least a 30-40% depth, as under that and I can't even tell a difference if the game is in 3d or not.

First image shows the depth at approx 40% and the camera , with the convergence set and the camera zoomed out enough to remove the ghosting effect
Second image is the same convergence, just zoomed in all the way, it's almost impossible to focus on my character
Third image is in between, where the character is clear, but I experience ghosting of the horse and the weapon

Anyone happen to know of a way to possibly fix this? Do I perhaps have faulty glasses?

Hey!
I have the exact same problem with ghosting and I send back my first glasses, RMA and did get the new pair yesterday and this pair is even worse. damn nVidia what is this crap :(
In ever game no matter what depht, convergence setting its ghosting town. as you said when one alter the convergence so the character come in sync then the whole background distant objects begin to ghost insteed!

So I wondering if these my second pair of glasses are faulty to, it seem like that as they are even worse then the first pair. I really beging to hate that I even bought it in the first place. seems it's only trouble and how in the
world do nVidia think people can play with all this ghosting.

BTW, When you try to get thru the 3D vision setup wizard do you also see double piture in the first line when you close the left eye ?
There are 3 lines with Hexangles. At first line i see a little bit of triangle in all those those hexangles. Second and third line is ok. For the right eye is's it little bit better but I can slightly see
a siluette of the hexangle also in the first line but nothing at all in the second and third line!

Actually, going through the 3D vision setup, I do see that crossover. It's faint but I can tell if I look at it, part of the triangle is still inside color wise of the hexigons for the first and second line.

Another issue I've noticed just trying to play around, when I look through both eyes, I only see the image that shows up on the RIGHT side of the two images that are split. For example, looking at the screen without the glasses on you see V V, when I put on the glasses, I see V V (The bold V), the left image is the part that ghosts for me on the left side of the image. What this does to me is it shows up everything I look at slightly off center. I don't get an image of V V V like I think most people do. I have really bad vision in my left eye, but it's only astigmatism, and causes blurriness, so it shouldn't be a problem with my eyes itself (I do have glasses, I don't have them atm since I left them at work, but when I get them I'll try them out again and see if I have the same right shifting problem)

If this is the case, maybe I do have defective hardware?

BTW, I also has astimatism and wear prescription glasses. will absolutely take a look at linses thou as glasses is a pain in the a.. to wear and it will feel nicer without them in 3D Vision I think.
Thank nVidia that they did manage to make the 3D glasses so ppl like us could use it :)

I have started to notice ghosting as well. It happens for me on the top of the screen going about 2 inches down then fades away. happens in games and in the Nvidia Stereoscopic test. I seems to be more noticeable too. During the triangle and hexagon test I see that faded out triangle in the hexagon, but only on the top row???? I hope these are driver issues nd not an issue with my monitor.

Now I feel I'm starting to go crazy, did anyone who viewed the picture set I posted have issues with ghosting in those images? I'm almost beginning to think it might be my own eyes that can't resolve this issue. Playing HL2 with the 3d curser on, I can't get my vision to reconsile the two crosshairs as one in the middle.

When my roomate gets home I will have him try out the glasses and see what he thinks, if he has no issues with ghosting, then chances are it's my own vision, which will suck. If he is experiencing the same problems, I'll have to RMA these glasses I think.

As a side note, now that I'm going crazy, since I've had astigmatism in my left eye for a long time without ever getting glasses, it seems that when I can tell almost no difference in my vision when I use both eyes, or keep my left eye shut, this might be a reason why I'm seeing the right most image in most games (Like V V, as I stated before)

I was looking at your WoW screenshots and from the ones you marked as unclear, it seems to me your convergence is set much too high. I can't focus on your avatar and mount at all.

Yeah the one I marked as unclear was that I set the convergence high enough so that when my character was zoomed out about half way, the ghosting disappeared. When I zoomed in to an almost FPS view, that high convergence just makes the character unclear. Did you notice any ghosting in any of the other images? Specifically looking at the lights in the portal images?

I could clearly see ghosting witch you describe in those pics, and as we said playing with the convergence to make things right up in front insteed mess up things far away in games!
As I said these pair I get from my RMA is even worse then the first set and I have tried diferent drivers and it wont matter.
I say you better do an RMA mate!

@00Slevin
That is exactly what I get with these new pair of glasses and I know that my first pair dident showed ghosting there. it's there all the time as you said in the upper screen, strong crossover!
I know that I looked for it with my first pair as I allready seen some people have trouble but I dident, but with these I do. ooh yeah im as happy man I have to do a new RMA /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

As I keep posting, the primary source of the ghosting is the monitor scanning from top to bottom to refresh the image. Hence the ghosting is minimized in the center and gets bad at the top and bottom.

I checked images and I see ghosting but barely visible.
Problem with your images is that depth/convergence is set that I can not focus object with my eyes.
The second problem is nvidia viewer.

I guess the ghosting is nvidia ir emmiter issue because it is controlled by usb (see http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?...home+simulator)
it is pretty lame there should be at least option (hotkeys) to tune this which is not working in vista now

(I see the same ghosting on whole lcd panel so it means that small tuning in synchronization could correct that)

Has anyone noticed the problem that I describe? Where when looking through the glasses, I only see the image thats shifted to the right, rather than a blending of both images together? I think that's the massive cause of my ghosting problem. When I look at an image, with the glasses off, you'll see two images, like this

C C

When you wear the glasses, those images should converge looking through the glasses as one image such as

C C C

However, for me I'm only seeing an image such as

C C

If I flip the glasses around, the image that I see is reversed (I see the left side image), same if I look at them from the inside out.

I'm assuming it's a problem with my glasses, as my roommate noticed the ghosting I mentioned as well.

Also, for the Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ, I can't change the brightness, or control presets for the magic bright while in a fullscreen video game, is anyone else able to?
Has anyone noticed the problem that I describe? Where when looking through the glasses, I only see the image thats shifted to the right, rather than a blending of both images together? I think that's the massive cause of my ghosting problem. When I look at an image, with the glasses off, you'll see two images, like this

C C

When you wear the glasses, those images should converge looking through the glasses as one image such as

C C C

However, for me I'm only seeing an image such as

C C

If I flip the glasses around, the image that I see is reversed (I see the left side image), same if I look at them from the inside out.
