I've seen a few posts saying 1920X1080 @ 24hz is terrible for 3D gaming. Why? I am running Skyrim this way and it looks amazing, no flicker, no problems and the 3D looks incredible. Why are there some who say this mode is bad? Are others running this way? I've played a lot of games this way and they look fantastic.

Depends on the type of game. FPS and racing games do better with a higher refresh rate. Slower paced games may be satisfactory at 24Hz.

I found HL1 to be totally play-"able" at 1080p24. One thing is for sure, i definitely was able to ignore the flicker after awhile. Other games have had way too much input lag though. Athough i will say that i took a break from HL1, came back @720p and it felt like a minor upgrade sorry to say...

For me 24fps is not playable even 2D and it's even worse in 3D. There is no way i could play any first/third person game just only 24fps.24fps is too low for 3D movies also and it's about time to move on to at least 48fps or 60fps but it's quite expensive so it will not happen soon...I just need solid smooth fps for my games and in 3D it's even more important. But if 24hz is ok to you it's good thing and you should be only happy for this...I know for many it's just not acceptable.

I not only find it bad but it actually even effects me after extended playthrough. Extreme eye tiredness like its half way through the day and my eyes think I been up for 24 hours. Movies I can watch em back to back but games at 24hz yikes.

I did some testing last night. 1920X1080 takes a little longer to load, but is sharper and runs just as smooth as 1024X720. I get the occasional whitish flicker on both settings. It looks and feels the same, just a little clearer. My eyes eventually get a little tired on both settings.
I'm curious what specifically people are seeing. Is it noticeable? Are you getting lag? Ghosting? Flicker? Maybe it has to do with playing for 5+ hours at a time or something?
I'm just not seeing one as "total absolute and utter useless garbage" and the other as " fantastic, amazing and awesome". They are pretty close with the edge going to the 1920X1080 for me. They both look fluid and pretty much the same.
Could people share specifics of what they are seeing or experiencing with the 24mhz setting?

It's 24 Hz, not MHz, otherwise there wouldn't be a problem /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> The complete difference of opinion is because people don't have the same sensitivity when it comes to flicker and low framerate. The only way to know if it's any good for you is to try it yourself :)

No, no, there are at least a dozen reasons why 24p is bad for your eyes ,but I don't want to go into theory too much, I think it's just enough to know that these bad effects are proportional to the velocity of the motion.
Plus, that panasonic plasma is shuffling 24p frames around , to mask the the low refresh rate of 24p and maximise light output, so it's like 72hz per eye? Looks like they are doing a good job shuffling, and shouldn't be compared to 24p mode of other displays.
There's nothing good about 24p, not only it's blurry most of the time, no wonder it's tiring big time.

24p only limits the framerate to 24 frames per second, which is just not enough for most games. They just don't feel fluid when moving. This difference should be apparent for anyone when he's comparing it with 1280x720 in 60p, as long as the game actually can deliver 60 frames per second. Many games are limited to 30 fps anyway, but even then the difference between 24fps and 30fps is actually very noticeable.
If 24p looks blurry, then only because some post processing is being used in the display.

Yeah I can't game at 24FPS, anything below 40 or so actually starts to get uncomfortable for me nowadays, especially after becoming accustomed to 120Hz in 2D when I'm not playing in 3D.
Biggest thing for me is the increased sense of input lag and rhythmic stuttering when you control the camera and rotate the scene that comes with low framerates like 24FPS. Its enough to make me nauseous after prolonged gaming under those conditions.
A good recent example of this was when I loaded up Alice a few weeks ago. Noticed right away it was locked at low FPS and FRAPs confirmed it. My gf didn't seem bothered by it, but I couldn't stand it and quickly googled the fix. Huge difference between 30 and 60FPS, but even when frames drop into the 40s with lots of SPH PhysX effects, its still tons better than 30FPS. Can't imagine trying to game at 24FPS....no thanks.

Maybe it's the system setup? I get zero stutter/lag when turning or in combat with 24fps. It looks better, is clearer and is just as fluid as 60fps. I have 20/10 vision.
I wonder if people who have glasses, bad eyes or who have had lasix surgery are experiencing the degradation?
I should take some video and post it so people can compare. Maybe other games are bad, but Skyrim for me looks and plays better at 1920X1080. I can't speak on other games.

Ya I'd also add that if you are comparing framepacked 720p/60 and 1080p/24 with 3DTV Play and HDMI 1.4, that would help explain your preference of 1080p as being "clearer". The interpolation of the framepacked 720p image is a big source of complaint by those who want SBS support at 720p for 3DTVs.
But ya if you can't tell the difference between 24 and 60FPS or find it equally acceptable, more power to you, that'll save you a lot of money in the future in trying to keep up with performance requirements for newer games and higher resolutions.
