Hey All, I was over at the AVS forums and was reading some threads and apparently someone was ablew to get a Optoma UHD50 DLP PRojector working in 1920 x 1080 @ 120hz in 3D.. Now I am wondering iof anybody here knows about this breakthrough.. I am serioulsy considerinmg buying one for myself and see if I can get 3D vision working on it.. I would also like to note some guy said he had the UHD40 the eropean verionf og the 50 to get it working in CRT Mode.. I think that will be huge in getting 3D surround to work..

Yes, me and Paul were the ones telling them it should work! The same should be possible with the W1700/HT2550 and probably a few others too.

I'd still wait for confirmation that it is not skipping frames via a recorded test as proof. My 39" Seiki accepted 1920x1080@120 but skipped frames when tested. A subsequent firmware resulted in no skipped frames. BTW, would it have been too much work to provide a link

Woah, finally :). 720p was something that I didn't want to deal with, but 1080p is decent. So, can you play at 1080p in 3D + HDR? Also, do this kind of projectors have low motion blur? I may consider getting one of these if it ticks all the boxes.

Well from what I read nobody has gotten it working with a 3D vision kit and glasses.. they ended up using DLP Link Glasses but it was reported to work at 1920 x 1080 @120Hz.. What kind of info are you looking for?? I looked for a manula and did not find one yet. they have a spec shhet or something but no real info on the 3D capabilities but I imagine it has Frame Sequential I will try google and see if I can did up a manual..

AVS forum User buschdogg7 was the first to confirm that 1080p@120hz works with 3D Vision on this projector. 2 days ago I bought the same projector and can confirm that it works perfectly! No Edid Override needed. You can read all facts in my last post on avs forum: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/68-digital-projectors-under-3-000-usd-msrp/2947088-optoma-uhd50-32.html#post56145744 I have 2 issues left: my DLP Link glasses have some ghosting (Hi-Shock Black Diamond). I read on the internet that this is a known issue with all Hi-Shock glasses. They are brighter than other glasses but the side effect is that they have a bit of ghosting in scenes with high contrasts. I've ordered Xpand X103-EDUX3 glasses today. They are said to be the best (they also look like the 3D Vision glasses). The other issue is that my 10 meter HDMI cable is not good enough for 4K @ 60 hz. I have artefacts... ordered a shorter cable now. Hope this eliminates the issue.
Woah, finally :). 720p was something that I didn't want to deal with, but 1080p is decent. Motion blur is low, 1080p@120hz gaming is just perfect on the projector (low input lag). 4K gaming looks incredible sharp. Also you can delete all 4K resolution from the EDID and use DSR for 3D gaming!
So without an EDID override, it should not work with 3D Vision, are you using generic CRT?
Generic CRT is the default mode which is recognized when you plug the projector to the PC and this works perfectly for Stereo 3D. You can of course install an EDID of a 3D Vision projector which works, too. For fun I tried this. You can install the EDID of Optoma HD67 for example. When doing so the projector is recognized as a 3D Vision device but you can only choose 1280x720 @ 120hz and 1920x1080 @ 60 hz as it would be regularly the case if you had an actual Optoma HD67 projector. Then you have to manually add 1920x1080 @ 120hz to the EDID again via CRU. However I sometimes got this red annoying overlay text when starting 3D then. This does not happen for generic CRT mode. I decided to just stick to Generic CRT mode as I do not see any disadvantes doing so - rather advantages. Btw: UHD 40 / 50 has a RGBRGB wheel. I am very sensitive to rainbow artefacts but with UHD 40 I don't see any! Also the projector is so silent... Optoma seems to be the only manufacturer who has understood that customizers want a silent projector. I hope I get 4k @ 60 hz correctly working and that the new glasses are completely ghosting free. Then it would be the perfect projector! But chances are good :). Also: Some reviews noted that UHD 40 / 50 would have a bad contrast. This is completely not true. It's just the lack of knowledge how to configure it properly. In Nvidia Control Panel you have to set HDMI RGB range to 0-255! By default the projector uses 16-255. No wonder that people complained that contrast was poor. OMG!

I figured it was generic CRT, interesting that you do not get the red text, that's awesome. I never really liked CRU, it worked ok for somethings. You can easily add a new native resolution to an EDID using monitor asset manager. All you need is the existing information somewhere to copy and paste from. Or you can type it in, though you need to structure the data correctly. Example from my monitor "2560x1440" 241.500 2560 2608 2640 2720 1440 1443 1448 1481 +hsync -vsync Not that you need to, since it works with generic crt, just more of an FYI, in case the need ever arises

Deleting resolutions works great with this tool but for adding resolutions it's just guessing where to add them. There are 3 different places to do so and not all places work xD. Also I did not find a manual for it. I'm happy I just can use Generic CRT mode without changing any EDID setting. So far this projector is far the best I ever tried.
