GPU prices - are you serious???
  1 / 2
Guys, I never did end up buying a new GPU during X-mas, and just for kicks I did a cursory search on 1080s and the 1070Ti again on Newegg..... WHAT THE?!? The AVERAGE price for either is $899.00. Are they freaking kidding?? What happened? Is the website on the fritz? How did this constantly aging hardware INCREASE in price by a third, close to double? I'm just curious.

Yeah but the exact same cards were retailing around $500-550 during the holidays. That's what blows my mind. Insane. I am planning to buy a 1080 after the next generation comes out, and I was HOPING I would pay $300-400 dollars for it.... but we'll see... this is nuts.

I bought my 1080ti during summer and now the price of the same card is literally doubled. This is ridiculous. I was thinking about waiting a couple of months to buy, glad that I didn't wait. If I had waited then it would be impossible to buy for me even a 1080. Hope that GPU manufacturers take some serious steps to stop this nonsense, but I doubt it, I bet they're extremely happy now.

I brought DDR4 early 2017 for 30% of the price it is now and a 1080 late 2017 for about 60% of the current price. It's insane isn't it - I've thought of selling my GPU and RAM to make an easy $500 and wack the old DDR3 and GTX760 in until things normalise - but like others, I like the 3d gaming too much. As far as the miners are concerned - I think crypto bubbles are the last cry of a dying global economy. It's all going to fall in a heap one day and there are a lot of people trying to squeeze the last drops of profit out before it does.

Im not quite ootimistic for the future when talking about the economy. World is filled with people who don’t get it that profit is a made up value. The realistate Business is one the most fuck you on the eye one. Its like a ponzi The last one pays. For example here in Finland the weather has slowly changed to damp all the time, And it doesnt make it better that in winter nowdays other days Are small freeze and the next day its plus and Its raining water. Everything is getting on mold. Houses should be kind of buy use for 20-30 years max 50 and throw away type but Are they ? Values keep Rising and Rising, the ones who can afford buy a new one during their Life but Many stay in the same middleclass house and when they Are old, only thing you leave to your kids is Some small amount of money that you can use to pay for the law suits following when the next guy discoveres He can’t live in that house as its all gone bad already. One thing im optimistic about the future is im over 40 so i wont propably have to be here anymore At that point when The economy fails big time.

You want to see ridiculous house prices Metal-O-Holic, come to Australia - the whole country is in on the ponzi, if it goes we are all screwed. I only managed to get a house affordably because I transferred a wage from a high income state to a lower income state and I still expect to loose 15-20% off my purchase cost when the bubble inevitably bursts. But yes, you are right - people seem to have forgotten that underlying any economy is intrinsic asset values and productivity (actual worth). Here is a question that no crypto miner can answer - what is the intrinsic value of bitcoin, or Ethereum? Gold is a precious metal, it is still worth something to someone whatever the situation. A house is still a form of shelter and, with vegetable patches and water tanks, it's also a source of food and water, so it has some intrinsic value, even if the prices are incredibly over inflated in many Western countries, it's still worth something. Crypto currency are the same as any fiat currency - they have no intrinsic value. And, unlike fiat currency, crypto currency is not backed by government bonds. The transactions cryto currency has paid for have already occurred and hold no value after the fact - so crypto can go all the way to 0 in an instant, there is nothing to stop it.

Do not buy GPUs now guys, just wait for the Volta release soon. I got my two 1080Ti GPUs just before new year (when prices were normal), right after watching the following videowww.youtube.com/watch?v=KnW4qqoiu2A Why I bought 1080Ti if Volta is just behind the corner you might ask - well after Titan V release I figured there might be no DVI-D port on the new cards anymore. Yes, I am involved in to cryptomig, but most of the GPUs I bought last summer (again when prices and stock were normal). Everybody can blame on the miners but it is not them selling at this prices, it is the merchants.

If NVidia and AMD are selling the product as fast as they can make it the price should go down not up. This is old tech the pascal architecture is about 18 months old. Checking NVidia site for the Star Wars Titan Xp the price is $ 1138.00 and the original Titan Xp was $1200

Well, what I expected was for the Pascals to gradually drop in price the older they get. Since a 1070ti (and even a couple of 1080s) could be had at Thanksgiving for around $550, I expected the same card to be around $300-400 by the same time next year (especially if Volta is out by then). What's happened is exactly the opposite. Same cards have surged to $899.00. So it remains to be seen what prices will do, but I'm sticking to my guns and won't be spending $899 on 18-month old tech. When Volta is released we will see what happens. My concern is that prices for Pascal will only THEN start to drop from the outrageous $899 and so I might be looking at having to spend the same amount of money after waiting a full year to do so. That's bonkers.
