Upgrades for my computer
Hi,

I'm getting low fps whilst playing using 3d vision. (I am also aiming to get surround later as well)
What is the best short term upgrade;

1) i7 extreme 930-960 / mother board/ ram
2) motherboard / ram / GTX 480 (for SLI)
3) ????

My specs;
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ / 3.11 GHz
4.0 GB ram
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (build 7600), 64-bit
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 480
Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3/S3 motherboard
Acer 245HQ

Is it also best to buy the gtx480 now as I heard two identical cards are required for sli??? (option 2)

:rolleyes:

What games are you playing? What resolution and settings are running things at? I'm having trouble believing your 480 is holding you back...

Im playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 MULTIPLAYER only. Im playing in 1920 x 1080 resolution with aa and all the other stuff low of off. I have details to high and effects on low.

(When I run the system requirements lab check it says that my computer only meets the minimum specs, and that I need a QUAD CORE to reach the recommended specs)
I was hoping that the option 2 option above would maybe help things though due to affordability.

That X2 will be having immense difficulty in keepign your 480 feed with data to render. When i went from an x2 to a phenom ii x4 my performance more than doubled and not because i went to a quad core either! This is with a mere 260 as well ;)

Get that i7 setup purchased asap you won't be dissapointed :) grab the other 480 when you go surround as it certainly will need it. Additionally make sure you have a PSU good enough to run it all as the power consumption will be considerably higher over the x2.
