Alan Wake - what are the 3D recommended settings?
Double pasting this from the SLI thread...

Yeah, it's taking a bit longer to get the SLI working on Nvidia than we thought, we're coordinating work with quite a few people at various companies and sometimes the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing etc...

For 3D Vision, we are proceeding and getting things like volumetric effects and some of the shadow issues solved... It's just a bit slow (for example at least we couldn't get 3D Vision to run in a window nor on a 2 monitor setup, so debugging it is somewhat harder). And after you've been running (and looking at debug info in Stereo :) on a 3DV setup you often need to take the glasses off to look at code and shader code, the context switch on your eyes just starts take it's toll so it's impossible to work on stereo stuff the whole day. But we are making progress of making all effects to fully support stereo.

Btw, do you as end users think it'd be useful to expose the Stereoscopic parameters (like Convergence and Separation) as overrides to the main game options menu, or is it fine to use the (Nvidia) provided keyboard shortcuts and their global parameters? We've found users prefer very different settings based on their personal preference.

Looks like they're going to fix the problems, thats amazing. I still wonder if they can fix them all. Won't they have to recode a whole new shadow system?

This sounds like a developer actually cares. That's a rare thing and awesome.
Just a quick update, after today, we think we should be "done" with NV stereo 3D support and will start testing. Done means we've fixed stars, sky, sun, moon, shadow issues, volumetric lights, light streaks(flares) and spotlights among other things. Is it going to be perfect? Probably not. But it's a LOT better.

Not sure if the patch will hit this week (depends how testing goes and we also want SLI support in that's just pending one thing) but early to mid next week should be doable.
Good on them, thanks for at least making the effort.

I am pleased to have purchased their game for a second time, even in 2d, when you have it maxed and adjust rez to hit rock solid 60fps it is a sight to behold with the most amazing lighting.

What rez do you use to get 60 FPS? My rig is similar (albiet inferiour to yours).

Thanks

Apparently the patch that improves 3D for this game is out now. Can someone that has the game report back how well the 3D is now and what issues remain?

Beat me to it. Let me know how it is as well I am very curious if they actually fixed it.

Some issues were fixed at least partially.
But still doesn't look good with big convergence/separation values.

Thats pretty terrible. I have a feeling they are just use depth settings. Though if they had the necessary code this wouldn't be an issue. To bad they don't bother reading the nvidia 3d vision guides for developers.

It looks great now...I am using 100% depth and converging on the main carachter...720p 3DTV Play with Max settings.

The only thing is the reflections of my flashlight are having some strange texture issue...you see it when you flash the light close to an object.

i install the 1.04 patch and for me now is below "good" rate. Some shadows and light problem still persist (much less than before), the flashlight light/halo is in the wrong depth and other light also. I finish the game in 2D so i look all the episodes (start of each episode). I don't know this is possible to fix by Helix.....i hope.

Thanks remedy for the effort (really appreciate), but for me is not playable in 3D right now.

Cool we can probaby give them a list at this point and they will be able to knock it out faster...

Remaining 3D Issues :

1. Shadows and lights break at >50% depth
2. Halo's around light objects are at wrong depth
3. Flashlight reflections on close textures causes corruption
4. "Add Seperation control" into the setting screen

Please add anything you see to this list and I think they will listen.

Thanks all!

Can't wait to try this out!
Maybe post problems you find here on the developer's page, they seem to be really awesome in listening to the problems: http://forum.alanwake.com/showthread.php?t=8005&page=2

@Fasty...Thanks for the connection to the devs...

I am playing in 720p 3DTV Play so I think I am not seeing some of the "Rays" issues that were mentioned. But I do see an issue with the distant mountains durring the opening scene on the ferry. I think that the draw distance is different for both eyes on distant objects...(The right eye seems to have a greater draw distance)

SO...
