Vista will install a driver by Plug and Play before you can blink during bootup. Go to Administrative Tools/Services and shut off PnP service, then make sure Windows Update is not set to automatic. Reboot. Then uninstall your driver, reboot, Windows should install a generic VGA driver. Install the new drivers.

If this fails, you can remove the .INF files for nvidia from c:/WINDOWS/INF (I believe that's where they are). This is also the only way to get a clean install with Windows 7 btw, since you can't turn off PnP.
