3D BD playback on Samsung Syncmaster
  1 / 2
Is anyone successfully doing 3d Bluray playback on the Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ monitor?

I got Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs to start playing in 3D one time, and watched 10 minutes or so. However I've never made it do it again, getting a cycling black/purple screen and no activation of the emitter other than an occasional quick flash of bright green. DVD playback converted to 3D works fine.

Cyberlink say (as do nVidia) that this monitor is not supported. That seems strange???? Why not? Not least of all, I have seen it working and could have watched the entire film if I had wanted. It smells distinctly of laziness somewhere in tracking down a bug, and given this Samsung is the bog-standard monitor for 3D Vision packages I am somewhat confused.

Is everyone else using different monitors?

The problem is with the HDCP protection used by the Blu-ray, all 120Hz LCD monitors are HDCP-compliant, but only at 60Hz... you can use a program like AnyDVD to remove the protection in real time and try playing it after that... it should work.

The situation that you just described is exactly why consumer interests need to not be in the hands of the content providers.

All the "security" in the world will not stop individuals who want to use their things as they were advertised to do. This is just a money grab plain and simple. If they cant sell it to you knowing it will break in a year then they will discontinue support or completely change how the media should be consumed in order to have you rebuy it. Myself, this will be my last time i buy 3d in this manner. No back up from Nvidia (my bundle was advertised for 3d movie playback) and because the plan changes does not mean N can walk away saying "oh well". I for one will be glad when everything is included on one chip and no need for mass incompitance.

Indeed, and what kind of BS is restricting HDCP support to only 60HZ on a 120HZ monitor in the first place. That is so damned petty that I would gladly egg the house of and date the spouse of whomever is responsible.

it's not BS
HDCP is made for HDMI right, which is SINGLE CHANNEL !
in moves over 60hz, the dvi link works in DUAL CHANNEL MODE, using 2 chips instead of 1 for processing
there is no way for HDCP to work in this mode, as it's not specified in the protocol.

It is actually BS that they cannot create a standard that actually enables the customer to use their own hardware to be able to watch 3d blurays.

No matter the reasoning, the fact that they blocked 3d blurays from working correctly on this monitor for any reason is bullcrap. This is why pirates have it better, and why I will never support idiotic restrictions such as these that do nothing to actually prevent pirated HD copies from being created, but do screw over legit customers.

Right, so a new piece of hardware comes out and all software needs to support it because its an extremely niche product and a few people bought it. The AACS license needs to be changed and all HDMI chips need to be recalled to make this possible.

Makes sense.

Dual link dvi has been out for years. There are no excuses other than incompetence (or greed) to not include it in the standard.

This is what is wrong with such draconian copyright protection. It is almost never done completely right and often causes legit customers significant issues.

Besides that, I absolutely expect a technology such as this to work on the bleeding edge of technology, otherwise it would be completely worthless for the enthusiast crowd.

Perhaps you like being told how you can consume your content and have major features blocked out because of idiotic copyright limitations, but it will never sit right with me. Blocking 120hz playback on an 120hz monitor is idiotic. It isn't as if dvi dual link bandwidth was a big surprise.

It is a damned good thing that the draconian protections can be ripped out, but they shouldn't have been there in the first place, or at the very least should be absolutely transparent, otherwise they are just basically pushing people to piracy.

Omg... I guess I never paid attention to that. I didn't realize my 2233rz was not going to play 3d blu-rays. I was going to buy a blu ray drive just for that. I don't understand all that HDCP crap. I just want to watch 3d videos with the damned 3d kit I bought! WTF........guess I'll be downloading some low res 3d bluray rips... :( lame.

get anydvd HD, then its all good...with any monitor...
pahncrd, dual link DVI is a PC only "workaround" for the out of bandwidth problem, the new hdmi 1.4 standard supports HDCP on all it's modes, 2d or 3d alike.
dual link DVI is just that, an extension added to DVI to support higher resolutions, it came before HDMI came, and since HDMI decided to always go single link only, they have no obligation to backport HDCP to work with an older standard (DVI, dual link or otherwise)

perhaps one of wonderful members who have sites that cater to the 3d group here could post a step by step to get the various set-ups to play 3dbluray (there is only like what.......4 or 5 monitors) I would but im came into this being told by nvidia that is was just plug and play....other than that i really dont understand the tech.......i just like to use it.
Thanks for promoting copyright protection abuse N- i blame it all on you.

Crap.......... i just realized that my new g15 keyboard is broken........it wont allow for the comma key to work................damm crap hole........why does everything have to be junk when you get it..........now my day is runed. thanks for nothing logitec............dont think this means i forgot about you N.............im still mad at you too

Right, so they purposely omitted the standard as a form of controlled obsolescence. That puts it squarely in the realm of bullcrap. It is a digital connection that is almost identical to HDMI and there is no technical reason why support for dual link DVI couldn't be included.

Every part of the system allows for 3d blurays to work fine except for the arbitrary copyright protection that is at the whim of a few content providers. That sort of behavior is anti-consumer and completely unacceptable. If copyright technology decides to tell what i can do with my hardware, then I will always and forever do everything I can to circumvent and destroy it. It is my hardware and it will do what I want.

I was not aware of that, in that case, the monitor itself doesn't have chips that are capable of dual link HDCP, or such a thing wasnt expected and they didn't put support in the firmware for it.
complain to the chip manufacturer: http://i30.tinypic.com/2ur14zl.png , http://www.linksync.com.tw/productscontent...=12&lang=en
not that you will get anything out of anyone, as 120hz displays are still Nvidia's niche hardcore gamer products, and thus they KNOW that we will just use a HDCP workaround tool like AnyDvd HD
tl;dr we are a small market and they don't care when we complain, wait untill next year when everyone and their grandma has HDMI 1.4 compatible tvs out.
