Flickering problem
  1 / 2
Hi! This is my first post here. I'm a bit crazy of this. I looked for the solution but I didn't find anything useful. All my games show a fast flickering all the time. It happens since a few days. Before, the 3D worked nicely. I tried the suggestions of the NVidia FAQ like change from 120Hz to 100 and 60Hz, recharge the glasses and nothing changed. Hope your help. I have just started my holidays now and I want to play! Thank you.

If you have not tried already I would recommend completely removing your nvidia drivers, download driver 314.22 http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/59641 and try a fresh/clean install

Is flicker on glasses or on display? I never had issue and dont recall anyone else having it but do you have something Infrared near the emitter/glasses? Id also try solutiongamings suggestion as well. 3D vision drivers are notorious for bad installs.

Maybe even delete the 'temp' NVIDIA folder before reinstalling too, (C:\NVIDIA\) I forgot who and what it was but someone had an issue that that cleared up.

I tried your suggestions and nothing happened. I think it's a problem of the glasses, because if the glasses are on, and the screen doesn't show 3D effect, it flickers too. I uninstalled the driver and installed it again, rebooted, did again the configuration test of the NVidia control panel... but nothing changed. Anyway thank you all. What else can I do?

The Glasses should not be on and flickering unless 3D is enabled on the Display. Sometimes when existing a game the Nvidia 3D Driver will stay engaged and cause the glasses to stay on, but that hasn't happened since Nvidia corrected it in the Drivers some time ago. What Driver are you using? What is the model of your Display? What GPU do you have? What connection are you using for your Display? When you run the setup wizard is everything ok and you see the provided images correctly? Do you have a second Display connected? If so, are you setting the correct Display as your primary monitor when 3D gaming? If you are using a Dual Link DVI cable, it's possible that it has gone bad or that you have it plugged into a single link output on the card. Or it is loose at the connection and needs reseated.

What Driver are you using? I tried 314.22 and 320.18 versions. What GPU do you have? GTX 560M What connection are you using for your Display? There is not connection, it's a laptop. When you run the setup wizard is everything ok and you see the provided images correctly? It's everything ok but the flickering. Do you have a second Display connected? Nop. If you are using a Dual Link DVI cable I'm not.

Hmm, it was working before, but now it isn't. Since it's a laptop, you most likely need to download the Driver from the manufacturer itself. They sometimes tweak the Nvidia drivers to integrate it better with their hardware and related software. What model is the Laptop? What Operating System are you using? I assume the Nvidia emitter is integrated?

I know is crazy, but..you could use Windows Restore, to restore back at like 1 month ago (before the problem appeared) and see if it still behaves the same... If that will be the case you have a faulty hardware there (either glasses or emitter). If not, is a software issue:)

Actually it's not that crazy I had to do the same thing when Windows Update screwed up my drivers before, it was a different issue but it cleared it up.

Maybe I should check Windows tricks. I will try these things, disabling automatic updates. Maybe the fucking Windows install the last version of the driver by overwriting the penultimate version. My laptop is an Asus g53sx-sx131v. Asus web redirect to NVidia page in the GPU driver section. Thank you guys for your help, this forum is nice.

I had this happen in Tomb Raider for a little while. I noticed it stopped when I pressed shift. I have no idea why this worked, and I don't expect it to work for anyone else. But hey, give it a try.

I have not resolved this issue yet. Anyway, recently I have noticed a 3D behavior change. I suppose it's due to te new version of the driver. Now the flickering is not fast. Before there I saw like 10 blinks in a second, now there is one blink every two seconds... I can see (with or without glasses) how the "second plane" of the screen turns black and dissapear, and then it appears slowly again. I don't know if my explanation is good... but I'm very tired of this. Any idea? I'm without 3D for almost three months, NVidia support does nothing and new drivers didn't resolve the problem...

Since you are saying that the display is dimming and reappearing slowly, I think that your inverter is going out. If you go to YouTube you can find lots of videos showing the problem and how to replace a display inverter on a laptop.

I have a monitor with a built in emitter (so a bit like your laptop) and I had issues with the image flickering on and off, swapping the left and right images and so on. My solution was to stop using the built in emitter and use a separate 'pyramid' emitter that comes with the standard 3d vision kit. I suggest you try and pick one up cheap on ebay, or if you can afford buy a spare 3d vision kit with glasses and emitter. You only need 3d vision 1, the emitter works with 3d vision 2 as well so no need to buy the more expensive kit. The nvidia driver is clever enough to use the plugged in emitter when it finds it so you don't get any conflicts (you definitely have to reboot though). I know you should not have to do this, and it might still not work, but your issue does sound similar to mine and that fixed it for me.
