From what I can see Game mode hardly does anything and actually gives me worse frame rate in most games

I installed Creators Update and nvidia 3d vision test have a lot of ghosting. And Windows Store games doesn't work in 3D now! Tested with: - Asphalt 8 - Asphalt Xtreme - Gods of Rome - Killer Instinct All of them were unveliable good in 3D @ 2560x1440. I'm uninstalling Creators Update only for this

Damn, that sucks! But you might try unplugging the monitor from it's power source for a minute to reset the G-Sync module, just in case it might be the problem.

PD: After restoring there still was a lot of ghosting, I tried restarting but nothing. Today I started computer and luckily there's no more ghosting, I don't know why.

Windows Creator Update seems to have 'upset' my Laptop's GTX780M. Following the update I got a Windows BSOD message Stop code: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE What failed: nvlddmkm.sys (This is the 1st BSOD I have ever had on this laptop in nearly 3 years of occasional gaming use). Following the auto reboot the GTX780M is no longer working correctly, Device Manager shows a warning triangle and error message: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. @Mesh333: That TDR is a timeout/watchdog timer that happens when the driver hangs. Normally, this will show at the desktop as "driver stopped working and was restarted." http://http.developer.nvidia.com/NsightVisualStudio/2.2/Documentation/UserGuide/HTML/Content/Timeout_Detection_Recovery.htm Always possible it borked the hardware, but unlikely. Reinstall the video driver using DDU and a clean install. Don't use any 381.xx drivers with Creator's Update.

Just to add to what bo3b said, if a driver reinstall doesn't work, then TDR errors also come up during overclocking due to overheating etc. It is possible that your cooling has been compromised - check to see if the GPU fans spin up, or check for debris such as dust embedded into them. A re-paste of the GPU might be required, though hopefully it's just a simple driver issue. For the record, I have had no problems with 381.xx drivers, but at least one 3D Vision user has reported corruption during boot.

@bo3d and RAGEdemon, Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. I think I'll bite the bullet and open her up at the weekend for a good ol' dusting, after nearly three years I'm sure that's worth while anyway, then I'll try another software rebuild... fingers crossed! Trouble shooting update: ------------------------- A couple of weeks on, so apologies for a very long update! ;) I removed the back cover of the Laptop and was happy to find very little dust build up, I gave it a blow through with some compressed air (while holding the fans still) and put the cover back on, so I am happy that 'debris' is eliminated from the trouble shooting list. Next I tried a (as supplied) software re-build using the Win 8.1 Pro restore DVD (created the day I received the laptop), I followed the Novatech manual word for word and installed the supplied Drivers from the provided DVD, all seemed to work fine but on reboot still no 'latching' of the GTX780M. I then did a Windows update and following several reboots the GTX780M finally appeared as it should! Yipee! The NVIDIA panel was present (using a RMB click on the desktop) so I clicked the 3D Preview TAB and... Doh! 'Windows has recovered from a display driver error and BSOD' as per my original post following the Win 10 Creators update... The Laptop re-booted and to my surprise the GTX780M 'latched' OK but going into the NV control panel caused the same error, this time on reboot there is no 'latching' of the GTX, no matter how many reboots... Not someone to 'give up', I then did a clean system installation using a Win 10 restore USB (I created it before doing the Win 8.1 test). And no prizes for guessing what happened... exactly the same as for Win 8.1 test, basic install - no latching, windows update - latched, NVIDIA control panel - 'driver error and BSOD'... reboot 2nd time - latched - BSOD, reboot 3rd and nth times, Device Manager Yellow Triangle - Code 43 error - Windows 'thinks' your graphics card is broken... OK, so the Windows OS definitely no longer 'likes' my NVIDIA card but I'm not convinced the GTX is 'dead', although it could possible be 'crippled' by software or firmware... let's try a different OS! -------------------------------------------------------- I used the EFI Boot menu to boot in BIOS emulation, plugged an old Lubuntu live USB in and lo and behold, I have a perfectly working NVIDIA GTX780M graphics card!!! -------------------------------------------------------- So what do I do now? 1. Wait for Windows/NVIDIA software updates, so I can get my Gaming Laptop specs back... ...while continuing to play lower spec games with what working hardware I have left of my v expensive laptop. 2. Install a.n.ther OS and accept a reduced number of Gaming choices... 3. Buy a games console... if I spent the same money 3 years ago as I did on the Laptop I could have had 3 or 4 consoles and several games! :( 4. Spend more of my valuable time trying to fix someone else's problem that was inadvertently (I hope) passed to me... so I can spend my spare time being happy and not pulling my hair out! ;)

I reinstalled win10 a few weeks ago not knowing about the creators edition update. A few games like Watch dogs 2 Far cry 4 all of a sudden crashed once started. Thought that was strange. If I turn 3D vision off all games work. Then I noticed any windows app I clicked on Mail Twitter etc. Would open then close by itself. Turn 3D vision off what do you know everything works again. I googled found the thread on people having problems with the Creators update and was waiting for Nvidia to release the hotfix drivers. They didn't work. Waited for 318.89 which was specifically to make the driver compatible with the creators update. Same thing. So this morning I reinstalled windows with just the Anniversary update thinking it should be sweet again. Well the same thing happens. If I use DDU and leave my internet connected windows installs 378.78 which works fine. I just ran DDU again and installed 378.92 and it works fine. Any of the 381 drivers and 3D vision enabled even on the non creators edition I cant do anything. Display settings open then closes Personalise does the same thing all apps work after opening them on like the 5th try and games just crash or work. I'm on 1607 build 14393.1066. I don't know if I was on a lower version before the format. This inbuilt 3D toggle switch in advanced display settings has me thinking it's doing something. Interfering somehow I don't know. I just have no idea what's going on. Every new driver I have updated to with no problems what so ever basically until the Ti 1080's came out and we hit 381.... I'm running Sli 1080's. Basically out of idea's for getting new drivers working. Just wondering if anyone might know what could be happening here because I'm completely stumped right now I have tried everything I can think of. Thanks. :)

Microsoft actually warns against installing it, unless your using new devices. "As we previously announced, the first phase of the rollout targets newer devices. Based on testing work done with our OEM hardware and ISV app partners, we believe these devices will have the best possible update experience and help us decide when it’s time to begin the next phase of the rollout." "Therefore, we continue to recommend (unless you’re an advanced user who is prepared to work through some issues) that you wait until the Windows 10 Creators Update is automatically offered to you." Yupp, Broke my Surround Setup last night! Awesome! Reverted to the previous built and killed the damn and useless Windows Update Service! I really hate it that now Windows 10 just forces you with updates in the background without telling you! Avoid this stuff until they get it sorted.

Part of the problem with windows 10 is that its a moving target. One day it works, then they break it the next. If they spent less time adding useless crap and actually just fixed it that would be an improvement !

Mesh333, I don't know if you are still around. 780M is pretty old, especially for 3D vision which requires 2x the GPU horsepower. 1. I would take the GPU out, clean it all up witha PCB cleaner (isopropyl alcohol), and re-install it using new pads. I would then reset BIOS to defaults in case any power saving features are messing things up, and then try to boot again. Laptops are notorious for components losing contact with the heat-sink over time and then overheating. 2. If it still doesn't work, get another 780M from eBay and install that, but not before trying to install a 1080M in there first. That should triple/quadruple your gaming performance. If it works out, it may have been a blessing in disguise ;-)
