I've seen this asked a few times and I had a problem with it myself recently. I bought a Denon 5.1 3D ready receiver from best buy and when I hooked my H5360 3d projector up to it I ran into some problems when trying to display games in 3D. When I went to select the 3d Vision display device I no longer had the H5360 and the only thing that kinda worked was choosing Generic CRT monitor. I say 'kinda' because it reversed the L/R sync on the display. This completely hosed up the 3d effect and I began checking the internet for a way to reverse the L/R sync. The projector does off this, but not in 3d vision mode. I was almost ready to just give up and wear my glasses upside down when I discovered this cached post from google -

This effectively disabled 3D Vision which was a bit of a let down to say the least. I was forced to connect the Acer directly to the PC and use an S/PDIF cable to carry the audio to the receiver. This unfortunately disabled HD audio (such as DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD) and multi-channel audio for my games.

Well, it took me half a year to figure it out, but I finally found a solution :)

Download Entech Taiwan's excellent [url="http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm"]Monitor Asset Manager[/url]. This will allow you to capture the EDID data of any display device.

First you need to directly connect the 3D Vision Ready display device to your PC. Run the utility and select the entry with the '[Real-time' suffix in the list of Display ID's. In the right panel (Asset Information) you'll find all information about the connected display device. Go to the File menu and select 'Create INF...'. Save this file to your desktop (for convenience) and call it 'display.inf'.

After that you can unplug and connect your AV receiver with the 3D Vision Ready display device in its active HDMI input. Press F5 in (or restart) the Monitor Asset Manager. Make sure the '[Real-time' entry is selected. You'll see information about your AV receiver under 'Asset Information'.

Here my trusty NVIDIA GT240 got in a bit of trouble. I was only getting the first 128 bytes of the EDID Raw Data. You can check if you're in a similar situation when under 'Asset Information' you'll find;

Extension blocs.......... 1, 0x00

I was fortunate in that my motherboard contained an integrated ATI display controller. When I used that to read the EDID data I got;

Extension blocs.......... 1, CEA-EXT, DID-EXT, etc.

Make sure you get the latter extension block. If you do, select the File menu again, 'Create INF...' and save the file as 'receiver.inf'.

Now we get to the magic; open up both files in a text editor. In both files locate the '[OVERRIDDEN-EDID_AddReg]' section. Now copy the entire line that starts with 'HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"1"' from 'receiver.inf' and append it under the 'HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"0"' line of 'display.inf' and save the file.

With a Acer H5360 connected through the Onkyo TX-308 you should now have the following in the 'display.inf' file;

[OVERRIDDEN-EDID_AddReg]
;Base EDID
HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"0",etc...
;Extension bloc #1, e.g., CEA-EXT, DID-EXT, etc. HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"1",etc...

Open up the Device Manager of Windows and locate the 'Generic PnP Monitor' under 'Monitors'. Right click it and select 'Update Driver Software...'. Select 'Browse my computer for driver software' and after that 'Let me pick from a list of a device drivers on my computer'. Now click 'Have Disk...' and 'Browse...' to the desktop folder. Open 'display.inf'. Click OK and then uncheck 'Show compatible hardware' in the list of devices.

Make sure you select the 3D Vision device, 'Acer H5360 (EDID Override)' in my case. Next, allow the unsigned driver, Finish and you're done :) Don't forget to configure the HD sound device through the Control Panel to match your speaker setup (5.1, 7.1, etc). Enjoy![/size]

This worked great for me also with my TX nr1007. The beauty of it is you can get your hd audio from the card without having to use another cable. One thing though. I installed the new drivers today and it deletes the inf hack so you have to do it again before you run stereoscopic setup.

Thanks for the guide. I'm trying to get this working on my Acer H5360 and Sony STR-DN1010. As soon as I update the display driver to the modified .inf file, the Acer cannot get a picture from the computer anymore.

I suppose when you say "append" the "HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"1",etc..." line, you really mean "replace". You want to replace the "HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"1",etc..." line in the display.inf file with the "HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"1",etc..." from the receiver.inf file. That's what I did, and I'm having the problems I mentioned above.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

If I remember correctly the Acer file only had the "0"... line but my receiver had both a "1" and a "0" line. I copied the "1" line from the receive inf. and pasted it under the "0" line on the Acer. You dont want to replace any lines, just add (hence the word append) to it. Hope this helps

If I remember correctly the Acer file only had the "0"... line but my receiver had both a "1" and a "0" line. I copied the "1" line from the receive inf. and pasted it under the "0" line on the Acer. You dont want to replace any lines, just add (hence the word append) to it. Hope this helps

I think you probably got your inf files mixed up.

nope. definitely not. the inf file from the projector had a different "1" line than the receiver inf file. they each had a "1" line and the contents were different.

I just tried a variation on this theme to attempt to make my HDMI1.4 Samsung appear to be a HDMI1.3 display. I created the .inf files and swapped them, and sure enough, upon reboot the 3D Vision program ran set up as though it was on a HDMI1.3 display instead of the HDMI1.4 that was actually connected.

Did you ever get this sorted as I ave exactly the same issue with my HD67 both my amp and Pj .inf files have the "1" line too.

Any help would be gratefully received

That is correct. Since the Acer has an internal speaker it will advertise that through the "1" EDID block. It is safe to replace the "1" line of your display with the "1" line of your receiver.

That is correct. Since the Acer has an internal speaker it will advertise that through the "1" EDID block. It is safe to replace the "1" line of your display with the "1" line of your receiver.
