Best 3d Feel? 3 LCD surround, Mitsubishi DLPs, or HMDs? Looking for a solution where a customer can
  1 / 2
Hello nvidia and nvidia community, I knew the GF100 is not out yet but I need important information if possible. I'm doing a business and selling 3d complete systems in my country and I just got a bank loan for the project so to maintain the most happy customers, its a bit critical to know which system is the best for:

-Picture Clarity and Quality: Long hours of 3d gaming (4 or 5 hours without headaches or eyestrain)
-3d Experience: Most enjoyable immersive 3d feel

A1- Poll: Which is first, which comes next in the 3d feel and your opinion please:
1- surround system with 3 Acer/Alienware 24inch 3d monitors 3x (1920x1080)
2- 1 Acer/Alienware 24inch 3d (1920x1080)
3- 1 60, 65, or 73 inch Mitsubishi DLP TV
4- emagin z800 with head tracking (800x600)
5- tdvisor 720p without head tracking(not in production yet)
6- i-glasses hmd (800x600)
7- Vuzix - VR920 Head Mounted Display (640x480)
8- Iz3d 22inch monitor

A2- Better 3d feel?: (1x (60, 65, or 73 inch Mitsubishi DLP TV)) Versus (1x (alienware/acer 24 inch monitor))
A3- Better 3d feel?: (3 x surround (60, 65, or 73 inch Mitsubishi DLP TV)) Versus (3x surround(alienware/acer 24 inch monitor))
A4- Better 3d feel?: (1x (60, 65, or 73 inch Mitsubishi DLP TV)) Versus (3x (alienware/acer 24 inch monitor))

About Mitsubishi DLP :
B1- Also is the Mitsubishi C9 series good for 3d games or the colors are not good and not bright and there is no clarity or ghosting? Or is it worth to pay 300$ more per unit to get a 737 series or 500$ more to get an 837 series? Or it doesn't matter for 3d games? Cause I saw someone complaining about crysis when he had a 60inc C9 Mitsubishi.
B2- Did nvidia solve the solve the checkerboard horizontal lines problem with the new Acer or Alienware monitors. There where lot of angry people complining about it with the 2233rz monitors and nvidia had no solution which makes one feel uncomfortable about what will the new Acer or Alienware be like:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtop...board&st=40
Is there a grainy texture problems in the Mitsubishi DLP?
B3- Can you read text in games with the 60, 65, and 73 inch dlps? Is the picture and 3d clear?
B4- I know that its half (1920x1080) resolution for each eye, does it feel bad or less clear cause of that than a (1920x1080) alienware 3d LCD?

General:
C1- 2 gf100 in sli enough for 3 monitors in 3d (1920x1080)x3?
C2- Does big screens effect make you feel more immersed inside the game and more realitic feel? Does this mean a 65inch DLP is better than 3 surround 24 inch Acer/Alienware? More fun?

thank you

I doubt many of us here have actually used firsthand more than one of the setups you mention above, but based on what I know and my own experience with 3d Vision, I'd say the most immersive setup is probably 3xLCD 3d Surround because of the high resolution from three screens coupled with the wrap-around positioning you can achieve to basically fill your front and peripheral vision. Second to that would probably be a large-format projector (such as DepthQ's 9-foot display) or a large DLP screen.

I have both a 60 inch Mitsu DLP AND a 22 inch viewsonic lcd. The bigger the better. Although I dont totally reccomend using the DLP as a main monitor, unless its just for gaming (does not seem as sharp up close). The DLP has FAR FAR less ghosting, almost none...the LCD tech does have noticable ghosting. The DLP looks amazing in 3d. If im feeling lazy I use my 22 inch, then sometimes I lug my comp into the family room to do some BIG 3d gaming....I personally believe that 3d will do to gaming what 3d acelleration did in the mid 90s....I LOVE IT!. Next stop 90inch 3d projection!

Fair warning if you are responsible for keeping customers happy after the purchase, make sure they know what they are getting into with bulb technology and get them to buy a spare to keep on hand.

i dont love my tv- just trying to share my honest experience with others.

how about a surround dlp set up! that would really be something to see! forget those little screens! im trying to convince the wife- but she says i have to build a new house to put it all in! haha

i dont know though- the whole multi screen thing seems kinda like a gimmick to me. the screen will be broken up by the monitors frame. maybe if they start making border-less monitors it would be a better immersion experience- but i think i would rather just get the biggest screen possible- for max FOV (like a movie theater). to each his own right? this is all just speculation and my opinion. who knows where the technology will end up. let us know what you think of the surround setup compared to big screen dlp- im very curious about a surround 3x dlp room. either way you'll be super stoked!

yep wouldn't it be great? I tried to compare 3xdlp vs 3xlcd but I think the same, 3x dlp would be better. but you know thats 7000 watts just for the screens!!

Dont bother with HMDs. I've got the VR920 and tried other HMDs in the past and they are really not all that. First off the virtual screen size is tiny compared to an HDTV or projector and can barely even match a 24" screen. Also they are sometimes uncomfortable and generally cumbersome. For a basic package I think something like the Alienware would be fine. For a more high-end model I would go with like that Acer projector or maybe the triple screen Alienware with the 3D Surround Vision.

probably having 3 projectors in 3d surround would be the ultimate setup. no bezels and just one large widescreen.

Far more important for 3D immersion than the screen image is the transmission of this information through the glasses to the eyes. What good are the best screens; brightness, colour gamut, contrast, resolution, high frequency and super fast refresh cycle timings if you watch them through dark, slowly refreshing and poorly synced glasses or if the images on them suffer poor convergance / ghosting issues!!!

I just got some Samsung SSG1000 glasses that are nearly clear when off and appear to refresh much faster (blink) than the nvidias, this results in the same games as per L4D2, MW2 on iZ3D drivers providing much greater immersion than 3D Vision on nvidia drivers via colour, and atmospheric effects like dust and smoke, not to mention, not being plagued by poor convergance and ghosting issues. This is even more pronounced in Avatar a game that needs no external drivers for my samsung plasma and glasses unlike my nvidia 3D vision kit, and results in a vastly more lively, responsive and effect rich expperience that was largely unseen on my nvidia's 3D Vision glasses /driver combination on the same screen (seemed good until compared with experience of Samsung glasses now nvidia seems really poor / unwatchable). The next generation of glasses soon to be on sale will probably be even better, for immersion choose your glasses well.

I believe this would be the best setup right here. I don't think I have a wall in my house large enough and at the correct angles to make the surround effect work though. Best to build a huge custom screen with plywood and screen paint. Something like a 20 foot screen in total though, dayum /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

....and then monitors come out later that can do 120 Hz at 2560x1600. How about that res in 3D eh?
