Hello Jason,

Thank you for the update and please accept my apology for the inconvenience caused.

The 3D Vision kit and glasses is incompatible with all the 3DTVs. For this reason, NVIDIA has developed 3DTV Play software to use the TV manufactures glasses instead and your Samsung PS50C680 50inch TV is not compatible with the 3D Vision glasses, but it is compatible with the NVIDIA 3DTV Play. Please see the system requirements.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play.html

To configure 3D using the NVIDIA 3DTV Play, you would need the GeForce driver release 260.99 or higher and 3DTV Play Support Update v1.0.0.12 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-support-update-utility-driver.html)

Also, when using 3DTV Play software to connect to a 3DTV, 3D Vision active shutter glasses are not used. Instead the 3D TV manufacturer's 3D glasses are used.

Regarding the 3D VESA cable:- You would need the 3D Sync VESA/ DLP Cable, for basic operation while using the DLP 3D Ready displays, so that the IR emitter and the DLP's color wheel can be in sync. I am sorry for the previous response; you would not need this cable for your Plasma TV.

In addition, I have noticed that the graphics card you are using is GeForce 8800 GTX and I am sorry to inform you that the GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card is not compatible with the 3DTV Play Technology.

Please feel free to contact us for further assistance, we would be more than happy to assist you.

Hiya, This is what I got http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00292BG82/ref=oss_product if you click on see more technical details it says SA Stereo Cable Port For use with DLP HDTV only
After looking on the web a dlp hdtv is a high def rear projection or projection setup, reads on that ad. like I do not need a vesa cable so has it been mis-sold? Must say it says the same in the booklet that comes with it. There is another one http://www.amazon.co.uk/NVIDIA-GeForce-3D-Vision-Kit/dp/B003JEPO64/ref=dp_cp_ob_computers_title_3 which does have the dvi-hdmi cable, not obvious there is a difference. Finally, there is this one http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/nvidia-geforce-3d-vision-kit-for-pc-04779837-pdt.html if you click more info it says Custom 5’ VESA stereo to 2.5 mm stereo audio plug cable, that is for £125. So do I really need to spend another £54 to get 3D Quadro thing you directed me to, why do I need that 3 pin mini din, I don't have any sockets/connections like that, to connect the emitter to the tv, if that's what I even need to do, it go's from a small 2.5mm port on the back of the pyramid emitter to the tv somehow. Are you just looking up info on a database or do you know all this first hand, where are you anyway????
Is the item being mis-sold on Amazon saying you don't need that vesa lead? If it is I can send this back and get another one elsewhere.
If I got the one from pc world will that kit work with my tv done job?
What the heck is that link to, I don't have quadro?
Can you send all this to someone at Nvidia?
And that's the first time it's said anywhere to use the glasses that come with your tv not the ones that come in the kit, which begs the question, why do you send out 3D glasses when all the 3D tv/monitor manufacturers say you have to use their glasses on their tv's?

Hello Jason,

Thank you for the update.

The VESA cable comes with the US version of the kit. Since you are in UK, you will have to order it

You can contact PNY, one of our OEM Partner company. They are selling a Quadro upgrade kit which includes the VESA cable, software, and installation guide. The Part Number is QSP-3DV-KIT. You can contact PNY at 800-230-0130.

Also, you can purchase the NVIDIA 3D VESA cable online from

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GeForce-3D-Vision-to-Quadro-%283pin-mini-DIN-cable-driver-and-installation-guide%29-Upgrade-Kit

The content of the product may differ from the region of sale.

The DLP (Digital Light Processing) is a technology used for enhancing the image on a TV, projector etc which is used for 3D compatible displays.

Please purchase the VESA cable from any one of the options given above, i.e from the link or PNY.

do I connect my plasma tv to my pc using dual link dvi-hdmi, or, connect my tv to my pyramid thing using a vesa cable, or, both?

The connection diagram in the book shows pc to 3d tv, pc to ir transmitter, that's it, when you do 3D text in Nvidia control panel it shows what you need, what to do, when does this flipping vesa cable come into it & why isn't it more obvious? Would help people like me if it was clear and concise, it's all a bit grey at the moment.

thanks,jas

'Looking at the description provided by you the issue seems to be that you have not connected the VESA cable which is a primary requirement for a TV (plasma/LCD) to be detected as a 3D ready display by the 3D vision software.'

Where do I get one?

'I would like to inform you that the 3D Vision European kit will not come with the 3D VESA/ DLP cable. The package will include 2 USB cables and the DVI to HDMI cable. If you're using a DLP TV or Projector then, you will need the 3D VESA/ DLP cable to sync the color.'

Does not include dvi to hdmi cable.

Part no. on box is 942-107010005-101, from what I can tell depending on what part no depends on what you get with it, problem is until you have it delivered you don't know.

What is DLP?

'If you have the European version of the Kit in US/Canada then contact the place of purchase to get it replaced with the US version of the kit. Since you have ordered a VESA cable, you should be able to use it with the existing kit.'

I am in the UK.

I have ordered a dual link dvi to hdmi lead, is that what you mean by a vesa cable or is that another lead, I did a search on amazon.co.uk where I bought the kit but nothing listed.
Just that I said to you I have ordered a dual link dvi to hdmi cable and you said 'since you have ordered a vesa' as I don't know what I'm doing with this being new to it, I want to check what you mean.
I have asked another seller, selling their item for a bit more what the product no is so I can see if that would of come with a vesa lead.

Thanks,
Jas.

Hello jason,

Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.

This is Kazim, assisting you in troubleshooting the issue . First, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

Looking at the description provided by you the issue seems to be that you have not connected the VESA cable which is a primary requirement for a TV (plasma/LCD) to be detected as a 3D ready display by the 3D vision software.

Important thing to be noted is that you will not be able to use the glasses that came with your 3D vision kit, you will have to use the glasses that came with your TV for viewing 3D on TV. However the emitter needs to be plugged in for the starting of the Driver each time you restart the computer.

I would like to inform you that the 3D Vision European kit will not come with the 3D VESA/ DLP cable. The package will include 2 USB cables and the DVI to HDMI cable. If you're using a DLP TV or Projector then, you will need the 3D VESA/ DLP cable to sync the color.

If you have the European version of the Kit in US/Canada then contact the place of purchase to get it replaced with the US version of the kit. Since you have ordered a VESA cable, you should be able to use it with the existing kit.

After you plug in the VESA cable, kindly follow the steps below to install the 3D Vision driver.

If the current setup is 3 D Vision ready then please click on the following link to download the latest 3 D Display drivers

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce-3d-vision-winvista-win7-cd-1.44-beta-driver.html

As part of the basic troubleshooting, please try reinstalling the drivers by performing the following steps to reinstall the drivers

1. Download the NVIDIA 3D Vision CD kit driver

2. Extract the file using Win RAR (please download WinRar at http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-64-bit/3000-2250_4-10965579.html)
>right click on the zipped file and from winRAR choose”extract here”

>Please run the "3D Vision_Autorun " file from the extracted folder

3. Install the GeForce "graphics driver" first from the menu
>In the install options choose "Custom advanced" and the click on "perform clean install"
>Restart the computer after the installation has finished.

4. Browse to the extracted folder again and run autorun.exe and Install the "3D Vision driver "

After the 3D Vision driver is installed, the 3D Vision Setup Wizard will automatically launch and guide you through setup of your 3D Vision system

You may also click on the following link for information on the steps to install the 3 D Vision kit successfully on the computer

I checked my dvi to hdmi cables last night after reading in tips and tricks booklet that the lead must be dual link to work, after searching the cable serial numbers I've found mine are single link cables, all the literature only says that relates to lcd tv's not plasmas but I assume I need it for a plasma tv too? I've ordered one anyway, so let me know on that and the VESA cable too as mentioned below.

With the samsung, you might be able to make 3D Vision work if you set the TV up for Checkerboard, there is some messing about involved to do this, and I don't know if generic DLP is still in the 3D Vision drivers.
I don't have the TV, but I did look at one recently, purely because it supports checkerboard formats.
I believe you need to use DVI port 1 on the TV, and rename the input to DVI PC , then enable Checkerboard from the 3D menu.
At that point during the 3D setup you should be able to select Generic DLP.

I have never done this, just going by other threads.

Well if all else fails I'll try that.

Does the Nvidia 3D make objects project out of the screen or just give it more depth?

If it's the latter I guess I could just turn the tv's 3D on, slap on the glasses that came with it and play that way, but you don't get objects coming out of the screen then.

further garbled info. from nvidia, again starts from the bottom, basically I gather from this NVIDIA 3D does not work with any 3D tv at all, all I needed was some software to use 3D on my tv, which isn't available with my graphics cards, I think that's what they mean so why does it say about the different displays when you run the setup wizard etc, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I get the feeling, neither do these nvidia guys.

You are saying my tv is compatible with 3DPlay, that my graphics cards are compatible with NVIDIA 3D, but my graphics cards are not compatible with 3DPlay.

What on earth is all that about, surely if I have a 3D tv, NVIDIA 3D I should be able to use 3D.

So, after checking my graphics cards are compatible with 3D, that my tv is compatible with 3D, spending money on the 3D vision kit, new dual link dvi-hdmi cable, you are now telling me it is not compatible and that I will not be able to play 3D games on my pc?
I have been using Nvidia for decades, all my pc's run Nvidia and just one bad experience, like this load of stress, can turn people from being extremely loya into people who would never use you again, absolutely useless.

further garbled info. from nvidia, again starts from the bottom, basically I gather from this NVIDIA 3D does not work with any 3D tv at all, all I needed was some software to use 3D on my tv, which isn't available with my graphics cards, I think that's what they mean so why does it say about the different displays when you run the setup wizard etc, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I get the feeling, neither do these nvidia guys.

'The 3D Vision kit and glasses is incompatible with all the 3DTVs'

If that is correct, what is this kit for?

Customer (Jason ) 01/11/2011 11:21 AM

'The 3D Vision kit and glasses is incompatible with all the 3DTVs. For this reason, NVIDIA has developed 3DTV Play software to use the TV manufactures glasses instead and your Samsung PS50C680 50inch TV is not compatible with the 3D Vision glasses, but it is compatible with the NVIDIA 3DTV Play. Please see the system requirements.'

So what are the glasses for?

You are saying my tv is compatible with 3DPlay, that my graphics cards are compatible with NVIDIA 3D, but my graphics cards are not compatible with 3DPlay.

What on earth is all that about, surely if I have a 3D tv, NVIDIA 3D I should be able to use 3D.

Can you forward directly to NVIDIA please.

Thanks,

Jas.

Customer (Jason ) 01/11/2011 10:24 AM

So, after checking my graphics cards are compatible with 3D, that my tv is compatible with 3D, spending money on the 3D vision kit, new dual link dvi-hdmi cable, you are now telling me it is not compatible and that I will not be able to play 3D games on my pc?

I have been using Nvidia for decades, all my pc's run Nvidia and just one bad experience, like this load of stress, can turn people from being extremely loya into people who would never use you again, absolutely useless.

Response (Farzana) 01/11/2011 08:01 AM

Best regards,

Farzana,

Yes there are basically 2 different solutions, one intended for 3D monitors that support 120Hz input signals, using the NVidia emitter and NVidia glasses this is 3D Vision.

And one for 3DTV's that support HDMI 1.4, basically just software, using the manufacturers glasses, this is 3DTV Play, there are also 3rd party equivalents from iZ3D and TriDef. These require a card that can support the HDMI 1.4 output format, and I don't believe the 8800 can, or NVidia has at least not bothered to support it. This is limited to the supported HDMI 1.4 modes i.e. 1280x720@60Hz and 1920x1080@24Hz.

However specifically because you have a Samsung Plasma that supports checkerboard, I believe you can run in checkerboard mode using the generic DLP mode of 3DVision (although this might not be in the latest drivers).

Even in 3DVision mode I do not believe you will be able to watch 3D Blurays because your card doesn't support the copy protection interface.

Honestly your best bet is return the 3DVision kit and buy a new graphics card.

Thank you ERP, you should go work for nvidia!
As for my thread with nvidia customer services and my lack of faith in them knowing what they are talking about, they have now confirmed it in the bottom paragraph.

So now I guess the options are;
To get a new pair of cards that work with my tv using 3D Play?
To get a monitor that works with 3D vision?
or both?
which leads me to,
I would need both of these to play 3D games on my tv and be able to play 3D games on my new 'when I get it' monitor, I couldn't use one solution to play on both?
I like to have the option if the tv is free I use that for my pc, but if the missus or children are watching tv, I use my monitor, that's how I have it now without 3D and ideally, cost permitting, be able to do the same with 3D.

I think these would be my last 3 questions to fully understand this if any of you can spare me a bit more of your grey cells, I appreciate you all looking and trying to help.

Thank you, Sonny.

Hello Jason,
I am deeply sorry for the confusion with our previous agent. My name is Manuel and I am in Level II support. Let me try and clear up some of the confusion. 3DVision and 3DTV Play are two separate products. 3D Vision is a technology from NVIDIA which allows 3D movies and gameplay using an ecosystem of 3D VIsion certified hardware that has been specifically designed to work with NVIDIA hardware. Your Geforce 8800GTX will work with 3D Vision monitors and the 3D Vision kit.

Last year, new HDTV's featuring 3DTV technology were released to consumers. These 3DTVs do not incorporate any NVIDIA technology nor have they been designed specifically to work with computers nor NVIDIA hardware. For this reason, the 3DTV Play software was designed by NVIDIA to allow some of our graphics cards to be used with new 3DTVs. Unfortunately the hardware requirements are stricter for 3DTV Play since it has to work with HDTVs that weren't designed to be used with PCs in 3D. This means your graphics cards will not work with 3DTVs in 3D using NVIDIA 3DTV Play.

You may learn more about 3D Vision from the URL below:

If you have any additional questions I may be able to answer, please let me know.

this is going to manuel what you say is correct but what about the fact that the current drivers have no legacy features built into the software that allows people like myself who have dlps that can support both 3d vision and 3dtv play. why is this you might want this problem to go away but peoplewho dropped 1000`s of dollars barely 2 years ago to setup 3d enabled gaming rigs are not gonna let you. Your 258.96 driver allows people with dlp tv`s that support checkerboard pattern to run 3d vision. your 270.61 driver does only 3dtv play. why not make a driver that supports both? That way those of us who supported your early 3d tech dont get screwed over.

Hi

Im trying to follow your whole thread but its very confusing.

Let me try to summarize what I think you want to do.

You want to use a 3D TV to display 3D content and you purchased 3D Vision, right?

If so, we do not support 3D Vision on new 3D TVs. We have been very clear about this and publish a list of our supported products.

However we do have a software product called 3DTV Play. This software allows you co connect to HDMI 1.4 3D TVs and play 3D games but you use the manufacturer's glasses. This software is available for purchase for $39.99 or is free with a 3D Vision kit and enabled by plugging in your 3D Vision emitter.

So your choices are:
1) Keep your 3D Vision glasses and plug in your emitter to enable 3DTV Play
2) Return 3D Vision and purchased 3DTV Play software.

I hope this help.

Hello one and all, I bought myself a new 3D tv, watched films that looked great so thought I'd try it with my pc, this is my chain of back & forth with nvidia, can someone who is knowledgeable read this and see if you can make sense of it all. I have 2 x 8800gtx in sli. Start at bottom, basically, can I even use this 3D kit with my tv, they are saying now that I need 3DTV Play software which does work with my tv, but not with my graphics cards![/quote]
Support personel at Nvidia full well know that 2010 Samsung 3DTVs work under 3D Vision so it is frustrating when a person like yourself is told otherwise.
Do not return your 3D Vision kit as it is the key to 3D gaming in checkerboard mode. Contrary to Nvidia's dialog, the Samsungs 2010 3DTVs all support checkerboard, dozens of people in this forum are enjoying checkerboard right now under 3D Vision. CB does not require Nvidia support as it is inluded in the free software from their website, anybody can download it. I would encourage you to avoid 3DTV Play because it supports only scaled 720P 3D gaming with it's bad image quality. This "no CB in 3DTV Play" is unlikely to change because it violates nvidia's policy of "no user intervention".
Obviously, Nvidia will never tell you how to gain access to CB mode which exists in every release, so you'll need to ask members of this forum. Let me know if you need further info on how to make native rez 60FPS 3D gaming (checkerboard) a reality on your Samsung.

Hi Roller,
Thanks for your post.

I did end up keeping my kit, bit of a con you need that for nvidia 3D to intialise and that's it, I bought 2 x Zotak 590's in sli so that works fine too despite what someone else said, I got 3D working on my tv, I watched some game demos, which did go a bit whacky after a while, and that's as far as I've got, all the gear, and no time to use it!

Now you know where I'm at, and me not totally knowing what you mean, what do you advise me to do if when I try 3D gaming and it isn't quite right, and have I totally missed what you were trying to tell me??????

Cheers,

Checkerboard mode is one of seven 3D modes that are available on all 2010 Samsung 3DTVs.
Checkerboard is the key to 3D gaming at native resolution using Nvidia 3D Vision. 0nly a few HDTVs support CB, your Samsung 50c680 is one of them.
Nvidia support misinformed you, 3D Vision not only works on your TV, it's greatly prefered over 3DTV Play because it supports 1920x1080 CB native rez 3D gaming. With 3DTV Play, you'll be stuck with scaled 720P and worse, 3DTV Play forces you into the wrong Pixel Processing mode on your Samsung. This "wrong PP mode" problem has been only recently fully understood so even the most savy people in this forum are unaware that it's the source of most of the image degradation when framepacking mode is invoked by 3DTV Play upon game launch (framepacking is automatic and unavoidable with 3DTV Play, no work around).

When you connect your 3D Vision emitter to your PC, the set up wizard should progress to 3D Vision set up, but it doesn't. Instead, the wizard is derailed and jumps over to 3DTV Play set up and forces 720P FP, the double whammy. The work around is to stop the wizard from derailing and continue to 3D Vision, as it should since you have a 3D Vision kit.
You will need the 3D Vision emitter + USB cable that connects emitter to PC, and the Rollermod.rar file available for D/L on the first page of the thread "HDMI1.4 checkerboard for all!" Disregard the tutorial as it is outdated, just D/L Rollermod.rar, or I can send it to you if necessary. You won't need the VESA cable. You'll also need CD1.33 3D Vision software D/L from the Nvidia site and the latest 270.61 drivers. The CD1.33 drivers will be overridden in the set up process, so don't worry about using old software. Let me know when you are ready to procede.
