Gas Guzzlers Combat Carnage - rated 3D Ready with a helixmod fix
1 / 2
We have now finished our helixmod fix for Gas Guzzlers, and with it, we reward the game with a SG 3D Rating of: 3D Ready
Thanks to Mike_ar69's super fix, the sky plus a few other minor problems are all fixed. The fix will be available for download from the helixmod website shortly.
As being another 3D Ready title, thought Gas Guzzlers deserved a thread of it's own.
All of SG's helixmod fixes are only available on the helixmod site itself. We don't directly host any of our fixes. This is to maintain easy navigation for everyone and showing our massive appreciation of all the hardwork helix and eqzitara do for the 3D community.

I just bought this recently when it was on sale and noticed the sky fix wasn't working anymore. So I hunted down the new CRC, the fix only contained a single Vertex Shader. The new CRC is A1590414, so just rename 00CC87F6.txt in the VertexShaders folder to A1590414.txt.
I also tried using the x64 dll as well with the fix and both release versions seemed to work fine with the fix, I had issues with the debug versions though ... unresponsive rebound hunting keys until I copied over the stuff from the original DX9Settings.ini and then crashing when/after dumping the shader.
I did have issues with it crashing when exiting the game so I just used my auto steam overlay disable script to disable the overlay.

Lol. It was late ... apparently I didn't read past Gas Guzzlers. So yeah that new CRC is for Gas Guzzlers Extreme. The game suffers from all the same issues as far as I can tell, 2D name tags, a bit of ghosting here and there in the dust ... grabbed it on sale for $13 or so with all the DLC. I never even heard of it before, this is definitely my kind of racing game. :)

No problem! Now I'm kind of curious what the differences are between Combat Carnage and Extreme, the only place I can really find Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage is on Desura ... but it's really cheap, $2.69 atm but it would definitely be worth it if it's an entirely different game(levels/cars) with roughly the same gameplay. [Apparently it was in the IndieRoyale Hammerhead Bundle ... which fortunately I didn't stupidly own already, it's happened many times. :) ... and the differences between the two are listed here if anyone else is curious.]

Bah ... apparently I spoke too soon, Gas Guzzlers Extreme was also in the Humble Weekly Bundle: Iceberg Interactive bundle ... which I purchased ... so if anyone(well almost anyone :P)'s really interested in the game and hasn't bought it yet I can try gifting it to you through Humble Bundle. Sorry lohan if I had any idea it would have been yours. :/

I just started with Gas Guzzlers Extreme which was sitting on my shelf for a long time now. This game in 3D Vision Surround is just AWESOME. It doesn't hurt that the game itself is also awesome. Although there is not really a story driving the campaign (which is to be expected for a game of this genre) you are constantly unlocking something which makes this game a total fun package. Honestly I can't believe that a game of such an overall quality (graphics, gameplay, game design etc.) totally went under the radar!
The only weird thing is that I still have the broken skybox issue although I installed the fix from the blog (which was originally created for the predecessor Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage) and also renamed the CRC in the vertex shader folder to the new one just like TsaebehT found out. So the fix should also work for Gas Guzzlers: Extreme. Unfortunately the skybox is still broken for me.

I'll check my install later when I get a chance... the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is maybe you're running the 64bit version of the game with the 32bit version of the HelixMod dll installed?

I have a feeling you already found the solution. I was not sure where to put the fix at so I ended up extracting it to both folders (32Bit/64Bit) and I also did the CRC renaming in both folders. Then I used to launch the game with the exe in the 64Bit folder.
So I basically installed the fix twice (including CRC renaming). Could that cause the problem and if yes in which folder should the fix be applied (32Bit/64Bit)? Which exe should I launch?
Tanks alot,TsaebehT!

Yeah I was just messing around with it, there was an update but it's still working... instead of explaining everything for getting the 32/64bit versions working, here's an updated fix. Just unzip it into your Gas Guzzlers Extreme folder and it should be good to go either way you run it... I used a slightly older version of the dlls and it didn't seem to crash(GameOverlayRenderer.dll) on me... props still go to mike for the initial fix. :)
