Quadro Driver for 3D Vision in May? (perhaps in the 185 Release.....?)
  5 / 8
Just tested it, and I have two main issues:

In WinVista there is not the "Force Stereo Shuttering" option, so I was right saying I saw it (on the XP) but was not finding it.

When I update to the 190 drivers both stereo and quadro card, I have again the "not green glow when starting app" issue. Maybe its something of the beta driver itself, dunno.

In WinXP, with the 182.16 drivers, I did try with the force stereo shuttering stuff and had no results, but I tried it again this morning with the configuration you described above (for Crema StereoViewer) and had no result at all, that is I have the bright green glow but still no shuttering on the glasses though I do have the force stereo shuttering On.

What an humongous headache!

Thanks again ;)

Grrrr... what is going on there?? I'll be very glad when Nvidia streamlines this process by serving an XP stereo driver. In the meantime, assuming your glasses and/or emitter isn't defective, there has to be a solution somewhere. You should be able to install the stereo driver in Vista the old-fashioned way (double-clicking) and have the emitter detected when you plug it in. Have you tried unplugging the emitter and uninstalling the stereo driver, then reinstalling the same version stereo driver as your display driver, rebooting, and then plugging the emitter back in? You won't need to register any DLLs since Vista does all this for you.

Another possible problem may just be resources and USB port. After everything is installed on both Vista and XP, I would try to plugging the emitter cable into different USB ports to see if that makes a difference. It has for me at times. You may be prompted to install new hardware - I was, and did by pointing to the stereo driver folder where I had extracted the individual files.

Can you provide your XP System Info text using the Nv Control Panel and we can compare results? Mine are below. Until I turned ON "Force stereo shuttering", my GIS stereo app would not go into stereo mode. The Crema StereoViewer however would make the call to OGL whether stereo shuttering was forced or not. Same for the 3dtv Stereoscopic Player when viewing 3D video. With the Force On, I now get the momentary screen blanking whenever I open a stereo app and my shutter glasses kick in. Have you been able to get the glasses to activate yet?

I'll post you later in an Edit my XP conf because I'm now in the Vista conf and have to switch the card from a pc to another U_U

However, I wanted to state that in Vista, with the 190 drivers the Direct3D stuff works well. I have not tested it with any game, but the stereoscopic viewer provided in the CD and the nVidia Logo scene show with a perfect shuttering.

I'm gonna switch now pcs and investigate more in that stuff.

I downloaded the Dzignlight Studios Stereoscopic Demo Reel 2007 (576p Side-by-Side Format - 82 MB) and use that and the stereo JPG (.jps) viewer as a OpenGL tests. We have very similar set ups so, short of defective equipment, there must be a solution.

Yeah I tried different USB ports. I had DLed the video viewer but had no film to test. Tomorrow I'll test the one you point out.

However, this afternoon I tried to install back again the 182.16 and it did not work (when I say that it doesn't work I mean that there is no bright green glow when I load a picture in the StereoViewer by Crema).

I almost commited suicide ;)

But tomorrow'll be another day and everything will be fine... hehe (I really hope so)

Regards

Verni

EDIT: brft I have uninstalled everything, erased nvstusb from System folder, runned driver sweeper and reinstalled everything and I still cannot enable stereo in Crema StereoViewer (I love when things had worked once and you can never go back to that state. I hate Michael J Fox. I need a Delorian hehehe).

So I'm still waiting for some official nVidia support (we have some links here hehe) and see if they can throw some light to all this stuff. Anyway, next week I'm out on holiday so I won't be working with this till then.

Thanks for all Lars! I'll keep you informed and post whatever I find out :)

EDIT2: Btw, the downloads from 3dtv are temporally down

EDIT3: Well I tried some things and found out in my Vista64 that the PhysX stuff was enabled in the other card (Gtx 280). I enabled it in the quadro and then stereo was enabled in StereoViewer (however, no bright glow in the emitter). In the XP one I do not know why now I can't even enable stereo inside StereoViewer...

No no, it always glows green, but that pale green that says that the emitter is detected but making nothing. It used to turn bright when starting StereoViewer, but no matter what drivers I use, it doesn't happen anymore.

EDIT: to make it clearer, in Vista I see left and right picture, but emitter is pale green. In XP just one picture and pale green.

Ok, got it. Just wanted to make sure I understood. Emitter is detected but not making the call to OGL. This whole thing is so mysterious to me. I just uninstalled the Nvidia Stereo driver and rebooted. The emitter is still detected and works like it always has. In fact, I ran the tests below without a stereo driver! Or at least it's gone from Add/Remove Programs, which I used to remove it. Everything else 3D Vision needs is apparently still there. Maybe you should just delete the stereo driver....

I'm still thinking the secret is in the Nv Control Panel somewhere. I was just turning things on and off in the Global Settings tab -> Global presets dropdown categories to see what would happen. First to the base profile (listed first), then to the "3D App - Default Global settings". After each change I hit "Apply" closed NCP before starting the 3D app. Here's what did happen (again, I'm XP only now):

NA = not applicable or not available
=======================================================
Base profile:
Triple buffering ON/Unified back/depth buffer ON/Vertical Sync ON
3D App - Default Global setting:
Triple buffering ON/Unified back/depth buffer NA/Vertical Sync ON

Result: Screen blanks, emitter turns bright green, but no 3D.
----------------------------------------------
Base profile:
Triple buffering ON/Unified back/depth buffer OFF/Vertical Sync ON
3D App - Default Global setting:
Triple buffering ON/Unified back/depth buffer NA/Vertical Sync ON

Result: Screen blanks, emitter turns bright green, 3D works using StereoViewer.
------------------------------------------------
Base profile:
Triple buffering OFF/Unified back/depth buffer ON/Vertical Sync OFF
3D App - Default Global setting:
Triple buffering ON/Unified back/depth buffer NA/Vertical Sync ON

Result: Screen blanks, emitter turns bright green, but no 3D.
-----------------------------------------------
Base profile:
Triple buffering ON/Unified back/depth buffer OFF/Vertical Sync ON
3D App - Default Global setting:
Triple buffering OFF/Unified back/depth buffer /Vertical Sync OFF

Result: Screen blanks, emitter turns bright green, 3D works using StereoViewer.
-----------------------------------------------
Base profile:
Triple buffering OFF/Unified back/depth buffer OFF/Vertical Sync OFF
3D App - Default Global setting:
Triple buffering OFF/Unified back/depth buffer NA/Vertical Sync OFF

Result: Screen blanks, emitter turns bright green, 3D works using StereoViewer.
==========================================================

In every case, for me anyway, turning the Unified back/depth buffer ON prevented StereoViewer from working properly. That's probably not going to help you dim/bright issue but it's something to be aware of. The only setting I've found so far that does NOT detect OGL/turn the emitter bright green is turning "Force stereo shuttering" to OFF. Reading the manual again, it says be sure you have line-of-sight between emitter and glasses, that they are separated by at least 0.5 meters, and that you have to use the supplied dual-link DVI cable - all things I'm sure you are doing. By the way, did your kit come with the DIN cable or is that a U.S.-only inclusion? I wish things were more obvious and clearer but we're sort of on our own right now till Nvidia documents this process.

BigLars,

Have you had a problem where the green light of the IR Emitter turn bright green, then glasses start shuttering... then after 3-5 seconds the glasses stop shuttering, even though the IR Emitter is still glowing bright green?
This is the problem I'm having. I have tried all your suggestions (from past posts) and tried all combinations of drivers. Everything is always detected and setup fine, but the glasses stop shuttering after 3-5 seconds. If I close and re-open the application it will do the exact same thing (glow green, start shuttering, then stop shuttering... but still glowing green).
I'm beginning to think my 3D kit is defective...
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

That's one issue I haven't had! My first thought is perhaps that the glasses aren't insufficiently charged. Have you tried using them plugged in via USB so that they're not running on battery power? Do you have Force stereo shuttering set to "On"? Have you experimented with any of the Global settings/Global presets to see if anything changes? Just brainstorming but I the brief flickering is a new one for me. My glasses have either worked perfectly or not at all.

Thanks for the quick response!
I let them charge all night. I also tried them plugged in via USB with the exact same results. I do have it set to "ON", yes. I have read all of the posts in this forum and followed all the suggested setups and my end result is the same; turns on, then stops. We have another person at our company with the same setup as me and his work perfectly... we thought it was a driver issue, but everything matches and his work. It almost has to be a bad piece of hardware...
FYI, I see that you are in Wisconsin... I'm in IA and the other guy in our company is in MN. We have an office in Wisconsin... so it can't be a Midwest problem ;)

Can you guys swap glasses? That would tell you immediately if it the glasses at least. If he gets 3-5 seconds with yours and his glasses work with your emitter, it's RMA time. We have four 3D monitors and so far everything is working fine. Glad to know there are more of us out here in the Great Plains!

EDIT - uh, nevermind. You said "company", I read "office". I'm thinking the same thing. RMA

Thanks for the reply again. We're already one step ahead of you, they are packaged up and ready to ship off. I'll update on Monday with the final answer.

Take care!

UPDATE on my problem:

Got it working. Apparently it was a conflict of drivers. Had to manually remove all files from the registry and /windows directory... now it works!!

Thanks!

Drivers! Can work with 'em, can't work without 'em! I'm glad to hear everything's now on the same page and working together. bigben posted here that he only needed to install the nvstusb.inf driver and all of his of stereo apps worked fine. That might explain why I had no issues after uninstalling my stereo driver. Perhaps the other installs and registrations are just mucking things up and confusing the issue. I'll be setting up a couple of more kits and going to stop there and see how it goes. Stay tuned....
