3DTV Supported 3D Projectors - How Accurate Is This List?
Hi

I'm currently looking at getting a 3D Projector to hook up to my PC. I'm looking at 4 models - Optoma HD33 or 3300X, and Epson TW5900 or TW6000. From what I've read, both the HD33 & 3300X are pretty much the same projector (the 3300X is the US version), as is the TW5900 & TW6000 (with some minor differences). However, only the HD33 & the TW6000 are on the supported projector list, but the 2 that arent on it are £400 cheaper!! Is the supported list an exact list and only projectors on this will work, or will the 2 that arent listed be ok to connect to my PC?

Many thanks

Generally if it's not on the list it doesn't work without some sort of work around.
However since those projectors are using HDMI and not DVI, you'd be using TVPlay and you may be able to request that the EDID is added.
You'd have to contact NVidia support to get a real answer, NVidia personell around here have been pretty scarce as of late.

If it's a HDMI 1.4 3D TV or Projector, you can add it by following the instructions at http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2774
3DTV Play supported projectors are submitted by users and not the manufacturers. So if it's not on there, it was probably never submitted.

If it's a HDMI 1.3 3D Projector, it must be submitted by the manufacturer to Nvidia for 3D Vision certification. Which is not likely to happen after release, if it's not already supported.

People that have a projector that is not on the list can also use an EDID override to make it function.

I'm unsure if the VP3D1 or 3D-XL 3D converters are supported by 3DTV Play, but may be so if an EDID override is used. <----used by HDMI 1.3 Projectors to convert HDMI 1.4 signals into 120Hz 1280x720 Frame Sequential.

Most (if not all) of the 3D Vision projectors are supported over VGA, problem with this is no HDCP compliance for 3D Blu-ray playback.

The main difference between HDMI 1.4 Projectors is wether they use DLP or LCD technology. They both have their pros and cons.

A good place to research and read user reviews on projectors is over at AVS Science forums.

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty sure they are all 1.4a HDMI. What's the likely chance of Nvidia adding the projector if I fill in the form? Is it a guaranteed thing or do they pick & choose which ones they will add?

Thanks

It seems that HDMI 1.4 3D TVs and Projectors are a "given" to be added, once submitted by a "user/customer".

The problem seems to be with HDMI 1.4 monitors. Nvidia has decided to be selective with their support of them. One example is the PS3 gaming monitor.

But the truth is only Nvidia knows. It seems 3D support of Displays and Formats are purely at their whim.

Nah its cause they want monitor companies to pay up. Samsung stopped paying nvidia for the stamp of approval for their new monitors so they say nope not gonna support it. Im guess sony falls under that category too.

This is reason why nvidia took down generic crt. They want companies to either pay for 3d vision ready or geforce powered if they are monitors. Its sucks for consumers but they got to make $.

I have a av reciever that is in the "list", support and compatible are subjective words! Use at your own risk because if it fails, don't expect real support! That's my experiance here.

so you didnt request it to be added, it was already there & it still didnt work?! Beginning to think this 3D lark is too much hassle!

Pioneer vsx-921-k is in the list. They blow it off saiying qa has to recreate my problem. My pj can see the 3d frame packing and syncs but there is only a black screen. Maybe EDID or could be a HDCP bug. I requested a model that would work instead of working my way through all the avr's listed but they had no answer! The are like my old company, we wont test!!!
