I have never been into HMDs before. But it seems like a cool product, atleast on paper. Do the HMD stereo displays work good? Has any one tried this one from vuzix:
Above one displays a screen of 62" at 640*480 resoltion 9 ft away.
Do i still need nvidia drivers to view 3D through those glasses? Because as far as I know the two glasses are actually two screens and these glasses can do stereo without 3D.
Can I watch movies in 3D without nvidia drivers?
Most importantly how is the video quality any good? Atleast comparable to a SD TV or monitor at the same resolution?
Basically if i buy this, I will be using it more for watching movies in stereo. So please give me your suggestions as I have no idea.

You need stereo drivers for every solution. nVidia ones are the only "free" drivers if you have an nvidia card, but they will not support the vast majority of new games. You need a pre-8XXX card, have to disable all post processing and special effects in games and then they should work.
z800 is a good solution for gaming and probably one of the best for FPS games, but NOT for movies - I hope you mean movies which are filmed in stereo and not just any movie ;-)
The bottom line is that no matter what stereo product you choose, the big let-down will be the drivers.
The best I have seen so far is a monitor from a company called iZ3D. Their driver supports most games out of the box and is in a league of its own compared to the nVidia driver.
They have said that a dual input HMD driver is in the works and will retail for $200. It looks promising.
I think though 640x480 is a too low resolution for optimal enjoyment of a game... just don't expect "the matrix" style immersion :P

Hi
I use my Z800 for movies, 2D and 3D. For games no so often , becose my DLP projectors (3D 85 Hz compatible) have more better field of view. Input of Z 800 is only VGA 800x600 60 Hz!. For DVD player it is possible usage of video converters (composite, or S-VHS video to VGA) It is possible use this (and Z800) with external battery. I use this too for wireless camera system for RC plane video footage. It is possible watching of movies in "pseudostereo" = one eye 1.frame sec. eye next frame. The stereo efect is no bad, only is necesary usage of home built adapters for creating of DCC signal for 3D stereo mode enabling (from sync. signal of VGA).
More simplier is use with laptop ,I recomende laptop with NVidia 7xxx graphics (good vere 7600 series) and use this with stereodrivers (91.32) and Stereoscopic Player software from P.Wimmer (www.3dtv.at). With this system it is possible watch movies in 2D, pseudo 3D, or regular 3D. The power supply is than per USB from laptop.
Enjoy

How does the displayer know whether the image is for left eye or the right eye? Or more precisely, how sync. signal of VGA tells which screen the image should be sent to? As far as I can tell, it only tells that a new image begins?

Yes it is true - the 3D efect is produced from differencies between frames, when the camera is rapid moving , the 3D efect is better. Interesting is - this effect is working when camera "shakes" = little rapid movements of camera (underwater movies ) the frames are different and 3D efect is present. The Brain is so combining the frames 3D is present and - the R/L orientation is no so crucial.
The VGA pass through dogle (it is possible for usage too with shutterglasses) extract from VGA sync signal the control signal for glasses or for Z800 (pin DCC)
the Z800 is than in 3D stereomode and the frames L/R are different. Wery interesting is this with stereoscopic player and XXX movies - of course. The difference of frames produces too "brain antialiasing "efect = subj.resolution is watched as higher as original resolution (pixelas are in stereo no so visible)
this efect is wery interesting thing. Planet Earth DVD are bombastic with this setup in pseudostereo (with projector - more more better). The L/R orientation is interesting no so crucial, becose the 2D movieas are no regular stereomovies with declared L/R orientation.

But the left and right should matter for some applications, such as in a game, when you shoot a gun to the right direction, you do not want to shoot to the left direction. If what is seen in the left eye is switched with the right eye, I think we would shoot to the wrong direction. Therefore, I believe L/R should be fixed in the right way? If this is true, what signal should the display card provide? Thanks,

Hi, on systems with DCC signal coming direct from Graphiccard (normal situation - NV graphics card and DCC signal on pin (12 or 14) of VGA - when the 3D contetnt is rendered via Drivers ) is the orientation OK - this is right polarity self from system.
Second possibility is use of ED activator.exe enabling of DCC signal manually - here is possibility with on of switching change the L/R polarity (randomly by on switching is the polarity right or not).
Normally for Z800 is use of first possibilty better are no problems with L/R orientation present.
Third possibility (for pseudostereo use, for use with video to VGA adapter) for viewing videosignal in pseudostereo) is creating of syntetic DCC signal from V-sync signal. The polarity is randomly, for pseudostereo no problem. My pass through adapter had L/R switch, i can use L or R orientation, when i see right polarity is next adjusting no necesarry.

Do i still need nvidia drivers to view 3D through those glasses? Because as far as I know the two glasses are actually two screens and these glasses can do stereo without 3D.
Can I watch movies in 3D without nvidia drivers?

Humm... I'm not even sure they have a battery solution?
DVDs are usually 720×480 NTSC which is well within the capabilities of the z800 and even the other one.
I don't know mate, I've never watched movies with it... I only play games with them in stereo... or used to at least :P
