Cannot enable 3D Vision at all
I have a Toshiba A665-3DV6 laptop with a GeForce GTS 350M video card. It's 3D-enabled, and I've used the 3D before, many times.

Just recently, my hard drive needed to be replaced, and I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. I've downloaded the latest drivers for my card and installed the 3D Vision drivers, but I can't enable 3D vision anymore. There's still a link in the Start Menu to enable/disable 3D Vision, but it never works. There are no options for 3D Vision or Stereoscopic 3D in the NVIDIA Control Panel, either.

I don't understand why it would just stop working, because, like I said, it worked fine up until this point. Something interesting I noticed -- The drivers seem to have installed to the Program Files (x86) folder, despite the fact that I downloaded the x64 drivers. Would that make a difference?

Thanks for your help -- Hardware definitely isn't my strong point, so I'm kind of lost here.

I have exactly the same problem with the exact same laptop. In my case I installed the new drivers over my old ones, and the 3D options simply disappeared from the NVidia control panel. I've tried totally removing the drivers and installing again, and the same with different drivers.

Interestingly, the download page always says that my machine doesn't support 3D vision, which is completely wrong seeing as this laptop has a 3D Vision sticker on it and was bundled with NVidia 3D.

EDIT: Also, the monitor is just called 'Laptop Display' whereas before I think it was called 'Toshiba 120Hz Display' or something similar.

Where are you seeing your monitor's name? Mine says "Generic PnP Monitor" in the Windows Device Manager.

I noticed the same thing about the product page... I have no idea what's happening, since 3D worked perfectly when I bought it. I took it to Best Buy to get a new hard drive under warranty, but I formatted everything and reinstalled everything back to factory settings with recovery discs when I got it back, so nothing should have gone wrong.

Could this be a hardware issue?

I've managed to re-install the drivers based on what was recommended from Toshiba's driver listings now. The name of the monitor is actually not relevant it seems, mine is working with 3D now and is listed in Device Manager as 'Generic PnP Monitor' also.

To get it working again I had to install this driver:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory=2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=5383&selShortMod=987&language=13&selOS=30&selType=11&yearupload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguage=13&type=11&page=1&ID=77315&OSID=30&driverLanguage=42

When installing, I clicked 'advanced install' or 'custom install' or something similar, and checked the box that said something about doing a clean install, which basically removes the old drivers first, restarts and puts the new ones in. The downside is that these are reasonably old drivers (February?) and so newer improvements and profiles won't be included.

Clean install actually wipes out all the registry settings, too. If you customized any hotkeys, you're going to have to customize them again.

Laptops and video drivers have always been a bit touchy. It's best to get them from your manufacturer if you can.

Okay, I figured it out --

I installed the driver setup as normal, and then I installed the 3D Vision setup separately, but RUNNING AS AN ADMINISTRATOR. That was the key thing. So after the drivers were done, I right-clicked 3DVision_275.33.exe and ran it as an administrator. After it stops doing its thing, restart the machine and everything should be fine.

Hi everyone,

There seems to be a problem with certain 3D notebooks where the 3DVision option disappears from the Control Panel after upgrading the system to the R275.33 display drivers using the default instal options.

Engineering has been able to reproduce this and working on a fix.

In the meantime, can users experimenting the problem report if the "RUNNING AS AN ADMINISTRATOR" workaround works for them?

Thx
Patrick

The solution for me was to run C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\275.27\Vista 64-bit\International\NV3DVision\3DVision_275.33.exe or wherever the package decompresses itself.
I didnt need to run it as administrator

Now you owe me a case of beer :P
