How to open MPO files taken from the Nintendo 3DS
The Nintendo 3DS is officially launched yesterday, and tomorrow in the US.
Now I took some 3D pictures, the files are saved as an MPO file. When I open the file with the default NVIDIA picture viewer, it says "not a stereo file".

How can I solve this problem?

i had the same problem converting jps files to mpo with stereophoto maker. When i try to open those mpo files with 3D vision photo viewer it says "not a stereo file". I try with sview and no problem.

I wrote a utility that converts MPO to standard JPS files. You can download that program here:

I'll try this out now :)
Will report if it works out of the box with the 3DS files.
Edit: No, this aint working for the mpo file I got from the 3DS :( (see attachment)

I already tried this out yesterday, but it didn't work :(

I attached a ZIP file which contains the MPO file that is taken by the Nintendo 3DS over here so you can try it out.

(By default, when you take a picture with the 3DS, it will create a default .jpg file AND a .mpo file, I added them both into the zip file)

Having the same issue with my new 3DS as well. A bunch of images from someone online that had a pre-release version displayed the same problem. More interestingly though, is that SOME images work. I've taken a bunch and there appears to be no rhyme or reason to it.

nVidia needs to look at this very soon because this device is going to be the most widespread 3D camera, as low-res as it is, on the market. They need to see if they can fix up the Photo Viewer, or tell Nintendo what they're screwing up so they can push out an update!

@Cybereality: What method did you use to split the mpo-file into jpg's? Did you search for the jpeg-header to locate the second view or did you read the header from the mpo thus calculating the start of the second image?

I had absolutely no trouble opening mpo files from my 3ds. Copied them to my desktop and just double clicked them. Nvidia photo viewer opened it no problem.

Well that's me thoroughly told. Updated my drivers (well, in order to update the photo viewer application at any rate) and they indeed work merrily now.

I didn't think to update drivers to update a bundled application because the support for a file format was a bit off. That's just me being old-fashioned, and shame on me for bothering to try that earlier. You wouldn't think I was a programmer...

We bundle the Photo Viewer with the driver since we sometimes make changes to both. Sorry if it seems old fashioned to you.

DO'H!

Yeah, updating to the newest version did the job...
Didn't know that the default driver update from Windows (7) doesn't find the latest version. A manually driver installation (to the newest version) did indeed it's job :)

Should have done that actually before asking....

Thanks all!
