3D Vision / AW2310 Problem Screen goes black after a while randomly.
Hi, I have just set up my 3d Vision and Alienware Optx AW2310.
I'm having problemas though... I installed the nvidia and dell drivers, then enabled 3d vision, everything ok so far.
But when I'm watching a movie or playing a game, after some minutes, and randomly, screen goes black, and the IR emitter turns normal green, like if 3d vision were off. I can still hear the music or the in-game sounds, which means that the game and everytinhg is running, but y need to go windowed mode and back to full screen to re-enable 3d vision.
i have tried both of the video card dvi ports... same problem. i'm using a dual link dvi cable that came with my monitor.
then i tried seting up 3d vision again, and selected rom with other IR devices. same problem.
i dont know what to do... i dont have another dvi dual link cable to test... and i dont think it¿s the cable.
has anybody had a similar problem? please, any help will be appreciated. thanks in advance! I invested a lot on this thing and it isnt working as it should.

I had problems (or similar) to what you're describing.

- Disable SLI in some situations (PowerDVD 10 won't work in 3D with SLI enabled, for example)
- Realtek network drivers can cause problems. I had to roll back on those, using the stock ones that come with Win7 or trying those that came with your mobo.

Thanks for your help... but it didn't work.
I do not have SLI setup (only one evga gtx 285) so it's disabled by default.
I rolled back my realtek network drivers (i've got 2 nic, x58 mobo). i tried again but it ididn't work.

i have also tried the following: disabled usb power savings, connected dvi cable to the other video card port, and finally connected an old 85hz crt to test the problem. it didn't happen at all. that made me think about my monitor.

today before coming to work, I testes the alienware monitor again. i kept stareing at the IR emitter and monitor so i could see which one would stop working first. I saw that the monitor went black and immediatly after that, the IR emitter bright green turned normal green. So I GUESS it has to do with my monitor... but i can't be sure.

also it only happens in stereo 3d mode. when i'm in windows, internet, music and that, i'm at 120hz and it works normally.
please help!

Hmm.. for me what I described where the problems I had when my screen would flash black every few seconds running 3D. I have the same Alienware monitor.

I also flashed the BIOS on my mobo with the latest and greatest which seemed to help a bit with my RAM and the Realtek network drivers. This is all in my case of course.

If there's been quite a few updates to your BIOS it might be worth a shot.

What it could be is your grafics driver crashing, then recovering shortly after. What it sounds like anyway.

If thats the case you may want to try a fresh install of the nvidia drivers. (Uninstall, then use driver sweeper in safe mode)

I'd say its more likely to be the issue above it it only happens in 3d. Dose this happen in a application that runs @ 120hz? (in 2d)

ok, i will look for a BIOS update to see if it helps. did your screen also black out when playing a movie with the 3d stereo player? when i'm gaming, the screen blacks out some seconds and then it "recovers" and it's ok, but when it happens while using 3d vision player, it won't recover. while in games, it happens at least 3 times in 10 minutes or less. i'm using driver cd 1.25, but I will test 1.18, 1.18A and 1.20 after going home.

yes, that's what i'm going to test tonight. i'm using cd driver 1.25 download from nvidia site, but will now try the older 1.18 and 1.20.
it is a weird problem, as any other "2d" application, like windows itself, or call of duty 6 and hawx, at 120hz work without problem. no random black outs. so that makes me think that the monitor itself is not the problem, but it might be caused by faulty video card drivers or 3d vision rivers.
the weird thing is that, the 1.25 drivers i installed first worked without blacking outs in my old 85 hz crt. it's a relative low frequency, but i could see stereo 3d with some little flickering.

I used CD 1.25, and when going through the setup if i picked More than one IR device in room eg: tv, i had problem, so set it up again this time picked no other ir in room and works fine with Alienware and supplied cable

yes... now i can laugh at myself, i was thinking about RMA and how expensive it was going to be and the problem was msn pop ups. well it could also happen with any other app that could pop something up but i havent tried. at least steam pop ups do not interrupt. now i know i need to completely close my msn beofre going 3d stereo mode. yesterday I could play cod 6 flawlessly for 1 hour... then got a little sickness lol. /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' />
