Technically, some humans can detect up to around 500fps, or so i've read (somewhere, i don't remember). Its said [url="http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frames_can_humans_see.htm"]here[/url] that pilots can detect and [b]identify[/b] the type of plane shown in 1 of 200 fps. I find 60 frames per second to feel solid, yet, i would love to see what 240+ looks like.

I assume you are referring to 60fps cap in 3D. The reason for that is the technology. Because the monitors work at 120hz that allows 60 hz per eye. For 3D to work you have to use Matched left and right frames so no matter what your screen refresh rate is you can only use half that rate per eye. You don't want a Left frame 1 image and a right frame 2 image. That would break the 3D effect. Based on that games and software are locked at 60FPS per eye, which is technically 20 frames per second total just that it's left and right eye pairs.
Until a tv can take in a 240hz source and output at 240hz we wouldn't be able to see 120hz per eye in 3D.

2. For reaction purposes, you DO have 120fps. You've got 60fps in each eye but they alternate. So, if something suddenly appears in front of you, you'll see it in 1/120th of a second or less.

I know I have used older shutter glasses at 170Hz, and it looked great (on CRT, at least). I wouldn't be surprised if even some HDTVs could be made to do this, as they have display panels that do interpolated 240Hz. However then you get into a bandwidth limitation. DL-DVI could not support 1080P@240Hz and certainly not on HDMI. Even DisplayPort might not be able to handle that (at least not current versions). So its just not technically feasible at the moment.

There isno frame.cap on my older hdmi 1.3 hdtv. With sync off. I used to get over a hundred fps in batman aa. I think :3d games look better with vcync off, at least in 3d with high frame rates. Metro 2033, which is still the best and most advanced 3d game came with vcync turned off from developer.
