Experiences with a messed up IR tower and how it affected ghosting.
So, I was having some problems with my setup where my sync timings weren't working correctly and would cycle between being in sync and in reverse sync like a sine wave with a period of about 3 seconds.
That was pretty annoying and it took me a while to get it fixed.
However, that in itself wasn't interesting. What was interesting is that the ghosting would shift from the top to the bottom and to the middle as the sync timings cycled. There were points where there was absolutely zero ghosting at the top of the screen. Not only that, but as I was getting to sync timings to work correctly, the ghosting at the top would change, sometimes it would be larger and sometimes it would be smaller. Now that everything is finally working correctly, I am pretty much back where I was as far as the top of the screen ghosting is concerned.
That leads me to believe that a new driver could indeed mitigate the problem and that it isn't necessarily completely a hardware issue. The best solution would be a sync timing adjustment to create the optimal timing for a particular monitor, but barring that, there still might be a solution.
In any case, I thought I would just share some observations with you guys.
