[SOLVED] Need help getting 3DTV working with Benq w1070 on Windows 8.1
Hey, I'm struggling to get 3D to work. I have Windows 8.1 using a MSI 770 GTX, I'm also using a Onkyo TXNR636 AV reciever with a BenQ w1070 projector and 50" Hdtv as a output. I know its capable of 3D as I use the Xbox One to do this for 3D blurays through the BenQ via the Onkyo. I installed the 3DTv trial and it failed but the progress report said the 3d trial component was installed. After closing the wizard the trial confirmation window poped up and I accepted. When I try the Nvidia Vision it says graphics not supports. Also in the Nvidia CP there are no options for Stereoscopic 3D but it also says that I have hdcp repeater. If im honest I dont know what this means, I presume its complaining about my av reciever but I dont know why, its 3d ready and hdcp 2.2 compliant. I've not tried the pc directly into the projector just because its really difficult since its mounted on the ceiling. Thats why everything goes through the reciever. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

When installing the drivers, did you install the 3D Vision portion? The receiver very well could be your problem. If you could connect directly, it would verify it. You might check the AVR manual to see if there's a specific procedure for passing EDID information from the Display. BTW: W 8.1 can be very troublesome for stereoscopic gaming, most avoid it.

3D vision was already installed prior to installing the 3DTV trial. Tried connecting directly to the projector, still no luck. Though wierdly enough I updated my nvidia drivers and I think thats what has caused the problem. Because beforehand I noticed Stereoscopic settings in the CP and thought I'll play with it after I update. I did however get TriDef 3D to work, which seems to work brilliantly. Though I have no idea if its still being supported or if I should persue the Nvidia 3DTV route. Just not sure how to go about it, I agree though I bet its the reciever, I'll have a good comb through the manual tomorrow, cheers.

There are quite a few posters here that use the same projector without a problem. Nvidia's driver install have been somewhat buggy for awhile now. I normally reinstall new drivers using a program called DDU if the there's any problems with the driver after I've installed it. Problem with DDU, is that it might wipe the 3DTV Play trial. I'd recommend 3D Vision/3DTV Play over TriDef since you have an Nvidia GPU. TriDef has less performance (more resource intensive)

Ok, read through the manual and nothing. Heres a link to the manual pdf http://www.uk.onkyo.com/downloads/2/6/5/9/2/Manual_TX-NR636upgspo_BAS_En.pdf. I found that DDU, going to try that and do a fresh install. Then try installing the 3DTV afterwards, see if it lets me do anything this time.

One more thing, are you setting the projector as your main display?

Yea the projector is the main, with the monitor/tv as the sub. I did the clean install and its almost working. I now have the 3D Stereoscopic options in the CP and 3DTV is still working as a trial, but I cant get passed the 3D wizard. Tried each option with no luck. I presume since Im using my projector 3D glasses I would select the wired glasses option in the wizard but that just tells me to download vision usb drivers which arn't available anymore. Still playing around seeing what I can do atm, unless im doing something else wrong not sure what else I can do. Whenever I enable 3d in the CP it just launches the 3D wizard. But getting closer now , thanks! :)

The 3D vision USB drivers are now included in the main driver package. The wireless selection is for Nvidia's emitter kit. In the Nvidia control panel tab, where you check the box to enable 3D settings, are you getting a green 3DTV Play logo displayed? Like the first picture in this article. https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.hardware.fr/articles/807-3/3dtv-play-tridef-3d.html&usg=ALkJrhjYc1nDy2kh3MCSjKADp2RN8uPrzw

I managed to get it working, turns out it was the EDID for my display. I installed the Sony .inf supplied by ForgottenProdigy on this thread. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/535047/benq-w1070-3dtv-ready-i-cannot-pass-the-setup/ It wouldn't install at first so I had to disable Driver Signature Enforcement via this guide. http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/edid-override/ Once that was installed I decided to do another clean driver installation. After which the 3D vision wizard launched automatically, however this time it recognized the display and changed to a 3DTV wizard. Went through the steps but it failed (The 3D was working) so I redid the 3DTV wizard steps and it was successful the second time. Now I have the display set at 720p@60hz. Sometimes whenever I launch a game it says the resolution isnt suported for 3D but thats typically because all my games were previously set to run at 1080p. Easy enough to set it to 1280x720 and restart the game and then it runs great. So thanks for the help D-Man11, hopefully this will help anyone else. Also as it turns out the Nvidia CP still says I have a hdcp repeater but it doesnt seem to be causing any issues. I'm even using the Onkyo avr with no problems, think it was just down to buggy driver install and the display edid. *As a final note, the TriDef 3D was just as good imo, can use both as its simple enough to change settings now its all up and running. - V

Check out these links There are community fixes for games that correct some of the 3D rendering issues, mostly DX9. There are some for DX 11, but it's quite a bit more difficult. There is also an OpenGL wrapper. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/10/game-list-automatically-updated.html http://3dsurroundgaming.com/OGL3DVision.html http://3dvision-blog.com/111-changing-the-convergence-level-in-3d-vision/ A few other links http://ramblingsofa3dgamer.blogspot.com/ http://3dsurroundgaming.com/ http://3dsolutiongaming.com/ http://3dvision-blog.com/

Just a quick edit: After playing around with this all day, testing various games I noticed another issue. I've been trying to play at 720p@60. But due to the Sony EDID I used from the other thread it was forcing the BenQ projector to play most of my games at 1080p effectively diabling the 3D. A Simple fix is to edit the EDID and change the ress to 720p (I will only use this resolution for the time being) and reinstall it using the advanced startup to disable driver signatures.
