Does Skyrim have an abnormally high performance cost in 3D
? Skyrim seems unplayable to me, even at 720p in 3D. The framerate is super smooth in 2D. Is that normal?
I've been messing around with a bunch of mods and settings, so it could be something i did.
Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Smooth for me as well (see sig below), never below 45 FPS, and mostly solid at 60 FPS, running on High (ultra does not look any different to me). I have a lot of mods installed, notably the high res texture types of things, but nothing that affects gameplay. Some very very specific areas always give lower frame rates, like certain spots in Markath. I found that lower LOD for the various options has a big effect on framerate. The framerate reduction from 2D to 3D is very variable in this game. I did some benchmarks last year recording framerates with FRAPs running through the same scenes in 2D and 3D. For me in SLI it was anything from a halving of framerate to no change at all depending on the split between graphics and CPU demand.

Problem solved: Followed Eqzitara's idea on removing tesv.exe from the Skyrim profile in Nvidia Inspector. As to why that worked...........................................................

Good to hear you got it sorted. I should probably fire up Skyrim again to make sure I don't have the same issue, I have Dragonborn on my near backlog :-)

I think it's the old mods and settings shindigs.
