I'm new to 3D and looking for the best solution available at the moment. What is the best monitor for 3d vision 2 set? Anything else I need providing that I already have a compatible card? Also, what 3d movie format do I need to search for? There is all the sbs, dts, avc... what formats are supported?

Opinions are diverse but since I'm looking, I'll give my opinion. I would think 3d loving people would go more toward larger monitors because they want that immersive experience. It's certainly how I feel. Currently there is only two 27 inch monitors that support 3d Vision with 1 more coming soon that I know of.
1. The Asus VG278H 27 inch is "3d Vision 2" monitor which improves the darkened screen that you can get with "3d Vision" 1st generation products. However it currently has production bug where many monitors are experiencing excessive light bleed and many people are returning at the moment. This could be stress related and more monitors could fail in the future. Good monitor but personally I would stay away at this time unless you got money to burn. Hopefully will be fixed soon.
2. The Acer HN274H is a 1st generation 3d Vision 27 inch monitor that recently introduced an upgrade to 3d Vision 2 but at this time its almost impossible to find. Again it is something I feel best to wait till the new model becomes available. Sorry I can't remember the slight model number change. I remember it has an extra B on it.
3. 3rd and last is the Acer HR274H 27 inch 3d passive display which uses polarized glasses like the Movie theaters which makes the glasses cheap. It is a totally different way to experience 3d than the two active sets I mentioned above. I have a 65 inch passive 3d TV now and I'm heavily biased for passive 3d :-). It is brighter than 3d Vision active monitors and probably brighter than Vision 2 active monitors but not certain. Some people say it's negatives are that it halves the resolution but the brain combines the 2 eyes and many say you see a full HD image. In my opinion the pros are cheaper glasses, brighter, and looks better (however I've probably not seen a good active monitor fine tuned) The negatives are the 3d vertical viewing angle is very small in the order of 16 to 26 degrees. This could be a negative for the close computer monitor format because the sweet spot for the eyes to see the 3d is very narrow. Also many people complain of the FPR lines that you see when you are close. This however doesn't bother me much. I have no idea when this monitor will be available and I'm searching daily for it, because it's the one I'll probably get. It is rumored it will be supported by 3d Vision running 3d at 1080p interleaved at 60hz on hdmi.

oops... I only skimmed your message and guess I used it for me to air my feelings on 3d. Hope it answered some of your questions. All the movies I got have been sbs except for 3 top/bottom ones I found.

In my opinion, if you want the best experience you need to go SLI and get a 3d projector.
Failing that, get a nice big 3DTV and get close. 3DTV Play has resolution limitations, but still works really well.

I can't speak about everyone else's experience with their model, but I have had my VG278H for a month now and it is still working fine for me. Once you experience how remarkably better the image quality in 3D is with the Lightboost technology, you won't be able to go without it ever again.

Thanks guy! Looks like it's still a bit of a hit and miss. I would love to buy a 3d projector as I've watched a movie on one myself in the past and it was amazing however they are way over my budget at the moment. I think I'll keep my eye on new monitors and see if something solid comes out.

There is no 'perfect' 3D set up because each tech has at least one disadvantage vs other techs. For example, computer monitors are small so they aren't as immersive as a full sized display.
Front projectors are extremely loud, they make a howling noise due to the DLP tech needing to dump lots of heat in a small volume, and the source of the noise, the fan, is right next to the user.
The best trade off for me is a full sized 3DTV that offers 1920x1080 /60 fps native resolution 3D gaming in non-framepacking mode. The image quality isn't quite as good as a tiny computer monitor, but the immersion factor more than makes up for it. Just be sure you use 3D Vision, not 3DTV Play.

Can you please provide some examples....I don't understand the difference between frame packing and other methods very well....but I was under the impression that to get 3D larger than 27" at 1080p60 was not possible (except for the Mitz DLP RPTVs which are no longer available) /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I've had a dual pj setup since a number of years and nothing available for consumers is even close to the experience. It's not without problems (softwaresupport). There are a number of softwares that supports dual projection but as good as all of them suffers from "framelag" ie left and right eyeviews not updating at the same time. This can be quite painful for the eyes. Selecting a specific driver (nowadays 169.21 for 8800GTX) minimizes this but got me stuck in time. The best support for this kind of rig was in the legacy drivers where no framelag was apparent.
I can't recommend getting such setup in these times though.
