> Primary Desktop monitor on second/Physix GPU & S3D on main GTX285?
I have a GTX285 I'm using for my gaming, connected to a 1920x1080 DLP TV; looks and works great! I also have a small 10" touchpanel monitor I grabbed on eBay which is now a secondary monitor, and it runs off of one of the DVI ports on my second GPU, an old 8600GT (which I task with Physix duties, since I already had it laying around.)

The question is, since the 60" DLP is ONLY used for playing games, I'd prefer to use the 10" touch monitor for desktop control and launching games, so I'd prefer if Vista classified it as the primary monitor, so my task bar and icons were on it, etc... Also, that would allow me to VNC into that monitor and leave the 60" off and only in use for playing games, or on another AV input for other things. (I have not found a Vista VNC server that allowed me to specify I want to share the second monitor or full extended desktop, so that's been a problem)

So, I see I can change which monitor is "primary" in the Nvidia control panel easily, and could shift this to the 10" touch screen running off my old GPU, the 8600GT running Physix. But, can modern games be told to play on the "secondary" monitor? Or can they be told to play specifically on the GTX285 (in effect, the same end result?) I know for instance when I play the racing game rFactor (which is 80% of what I do currently, and therefore my primary motivation), I can select in the setup program to run the game full screen on either of my graphics cards, so it should work for that game. I think I tried it once though, moving "primary" to the 8600GT/10" screen and still selecting the GTX285/60" for rFactor. As I recall though maybe I got a drastic FPS reduction though? That was a while ago so I'm not sure the details. I'm game to try it again, but, are other games not able to play on whichever monitor you choose? Would I have problems with, for instance, Grid (yep, love racing games!), COD4, Fallout 3, etc...?

Also, I'll cross post this in both the General Hardware and the Stereo 3D areas, since I'm also running 3D Vision S3D with this setup. So, in addition to the questions I have above, I wonder if there are any additional limitations that apply to this two GPU, secondary monitor situation WRT the 3D Vision kit and 3D driver?

Thanks for any info!

You want S3D to work on the secondary monitor. Sounds like a simple tick box in a future driver release. *Ahem Nvidia*

I have the same desire to do with my 30" as primary with 22" for 3D gaming.

And I have no problem having my secondardy (2560x1600) monitor enabled and on while gaming. I turn it off tho.

Yep, makes sense. I hadn't tried it yet, but I assume by your response you've found it doesn't work? I wasn't sure. Do you run your monitors off one card or two? Hell of a lot of pixels there between the two!

Yes they run on the same card. I upgraded from an 8800GTX-SC to the GTX285-FTW and I couldn't be happier. I used to get BSOD periodically while gaming with a single monitor. Now, I never get them. Nothing else in my system has changed.

I have found only the primary display will run the 3D driver for the games.

I don't know how to help you with the VNC issue, but for the task bar and icons, you can just undock the taskbar and move it to the secondary monitor, and move your desktop icons over as well. As long as both your monitors remain connected, Windows will remember this setting even after restart. Also, Ultramon would have some of the dual display customization options you are looking for. Its a good program, I'm running it for my triple display.

You're a genius. How did I not know you could do that?!

+1, thanks. I'd still love to be able to VNC to this display however, or run VNC across both extended desktops. I'll keep looking around. If anyone knows any way to do that let me know, and thanks for the tips!
