Everything I have read shows unequivocally that people are really really pi$$ed over this. And what is the deal with ATI and nvidia not releasing any new generation cards in like 2 years? Sheesh...

Uhm... you sound like you are trolling. This game has been at the top of my list for over a year now - I took vacation this week to play it, something I've never done for any game before. I also built a new PC just for this game. If it turned out to be like The Witcher 2 and didn't have working 3D as advertised, THEN I would be pissed. But having to turn off a couple DX11 settings? No way. I'm beyond thrilled that this game works and still looks fantastic. I think most everyone here feels the same way. I am gonna have a blast playing it this week!

Well no new cards is due more to TSMC's fabrication issues than anything else. Both Nvidia and ATI were originally optimistic they would have 28nm parts in 2011 but this is obviously not going to be the case. To further complicate matters, both Nvidia and ATI have gone with new high-end architecture + new process strategies first with their last few GPUs, meaning bigger growing pains with that new GPU and less improvement from refreshes on the same architecture.
In the past, Nvidia used to use their low-end/mobile GPUs and high-end refresh to go through the teething process on a new fab process, then bring their high-end chip with a new architecture to market. Now they are going new high-end arch + new process simultaneously, which can really result in some problems as we first saw with Fermi.
I personally do not mind the lag since last-gen Fermi parts still do quite well for me, especially since PC games are being sandbagged by the consoles right now, but I can understand those running 3D Surround are probably ready for the next-gen hardware and more horsepower.
As for Batman AC, it is disappointing WB/Rocksteady didn't use the extra month to sort out this PC-specific feature, but I have no doubt the game still looks fantastic in DX9 since the original was also only DX9.

Trolling?? Really? I help this forum out constantly figuring out problems with nvidia drivers before nvidia themselves figures out what's causing them. I think you'd better reconsider your trolling comment. The whole point of the PC version was for these features and they are nerfed right out of the gate by a problem that was glaringly obvious to the devs before they released it. Trust me when I say the community is pi$$ed about this. These guys lost a lot of respect over this. I also wish the hardware would move faster lately too. Both companies are stuck in the mud with regard to new tech these days and these new games are demanding more and more from us surround users.

The reason it sounded like trolling is because you said people are unequivocally upset about this, and that simply isn't true. Then throwing the "I can't believe we have no new technology!!" on top of it seemed rather random. It's like me getting upset over a cold hamburger and in the same sentence go off on Red Lobster for doing away with all-you-can eat shrimp.
But hey, it's cool. Whatever floats your boat. As I said before, I for one am thrilled with my purchase of Arkham City.

I very much doubt it made it through beta testing without being noticed. However, Thanksgiving is tomorrow. The game MUST go out or they will lose a ton of sales. So it goes out with DX11 still needing more polish.
Lesson: Don't buy games on day 1 unless you're part of beta testing and KNOW that it's going to work well on your system.

Trying to play in 3D but I can't because it stutters terribly with vsync turned on and having it turned off makes me feel ill in 3D (not even going to mention DX11)

Never play any game in 3D without VSync (actually, I doubt that you can turn off VSync effectively when using 3D anyway).
What kind of stutter do you get? Just a low framerate? Or is it like the game is stopping for a split second on a regular basis while the framerate itself is fine?

Well the frame rate is fine I guess, in between the pauses that occur every half-second or so! Also the audio stutters and lags behind the video, mainly during cut scenes.
Also, this occurs not matter what quality setting I have it on, and only seems to happen when I have 3D enabled.

Tried this last night. Definitely looks gorgeous, but I obviously had the DX11 issues. Performance wasn't super great when I turned those features off tho I didn't actually follow the proper instructions to go into DX9 mode. Thankfully I have too many amazing games to play right now that I can let this one sit until they patch it. Back to skyrim I go!
Does actually having a second nvidia card for physx make a huge difference? I have some 285GTX's lying around the office, maybe I should "borrow" one when I play through this game...

From my experiences of testing Physx some time back, having a second card dedicated for it definitely helps. When I added another card to my SLI system, I saw no tangible benefit from it and I didn't like how much hotter my already hot 480GTX cards got with the extra card in between them, even if it was a low profile card. So based on my not-so-professional testing, add a second card if you got a spare one lying around. If you have a SLI system already, don't bother.

I don't have the game yet, so I don't have any first hand experience. But that sounds like sth is interfering with the game
I take that no other game (played in 3D) shows these symptoms? It might be related to the USB connection (for the emitter), but then all games should be affected.
You can also try the tool msconfig.exe to temporarily disable all autorun programs and non-Microsoft services (only the nVidia 3D Stereoskopic service has to remain enabled of course). If some other tool is interfering, this should make a difference.

I can't enable 3d vision for this. The display settings under configure PC options say that 3D Vision is disabled "(Use Nvidia(tm) control panel to enable 3d vision)". Pushing the green button in-game doesn't work either. I am using the latest nvidia drivers with a GTX570
It definitely isn't disabled, 3d vision is working fine. Anyone know how to fix this?

The answer is right there in your screenshot. Uncheck "Hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts" as it disables stereoscopic 3D when launching a game (just like it says).

Thanks, I tried that but it didn't make any difference. Besides that option should allow me just to use the green button to switch it on.
EDIT: Looks like using the green button has mysteriously started working in AC today. Still can't get the option to toggle in the game settings, but never mind.

It's too bad some are having trouble with this. I've been playing this game practically non-stop since Wednesday night (Like I said I took vacation for this game) and have encountered absolutely zero bugs or performance glitches of any kind (minus the DX11 features of course). I am so glad they didn't hold up the game release any longer!

It's like me getting upset over a cold hamburger and in the same sentence go off on Red Lobster for doing away with all-you-can eat shrimp.
But hey, it's cool. Whatever floats your boat. As I said before, I for one am thrilled with my purchase of Arkham City.
Trolling??

What kind of stutter do you get? Just a low framerate? Or is it like the game is stopping for a split second on a regular basis while the framerate itself is fine?

Also, this occurs not matter what quality setting I have it on, and only seems to happen when I have 3D enabled.

Does actually having a second nvidia card for physx make a huge difference? I have some 285GTX's lying around the office, maybe I should "borrow" one when I play through this game...

Well the frame rate is fine I guess, in between the pauses that occur every half-second or so! Also the audio stutters and lags behind the video, mainly during cut scenes.

It definitely isn't disabled, 3d vision is working fine. Anyone know how to fix this?

I can't enable 3d vision for this. The display settings under configure PC options say that 3D Vision is disabled "(Use Nvidia(tm) control panel to enable 3d vision)". Pushing the green button in-game doesn't work either. I am using the latest nvidia drivers with a GTX570

The answer is right there in your screenshot. Uncheck "Hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts" as it disables stereoscopic 3D when launching a game (just like it says).
