ELEX - 3D Vision Fix
  8 / 9
Thanks for the superb fix, mx-2 (and the others who helped, like DHR)! I really appreciate the time involved in creating and sharing this mod. Finished this great game without any crashes, and Windows 10 performance is great. Ideally, helixmod.blogspot could at least contain a link to this thread (the mod for this game really needs to be shared more broadly)... I copied the F4 keyboard code in d3dx.ini, changing F4 to XB_BACK (for XBox controller). Not perfect (convergence change can get out of sync if push button too fast), but I think it makes the Adjutor easier to use.

The game is half off on Steam - this would be a good time to get it on the HelixMod Blog.

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

Yah, I saw that, is the game that bad? It's only been out since October. I did read that the combat is clunky and had planned on watching some gameplay.

Well I'm sure having fun with the exploration portion. I've only played for 100 minutes, though, whacking things with a pipe so I can't say on combat. The 3D is quite good under Windows 10!

Now that I've got more experience with the game... It's got a lot of problems.
[.]Wooden voice acting - and not just the main character who's supposed to have little emotion[/.] [.]Companion banter is pretty weak[/.] [.]To warn you that your jet pack is about to run out of fuel, it cuts out, causing you to drop more so you'll need even more fuel to get where you want to go. Any time there's rock around (which is often in this landscape), you'll hear an annoying pebbles-falling sound.[/.] [.]Can we please agree on one pronunciation of the deity's name? At least inside the priesthood!?[/.] [.]Companion abuse - your companion has unlimited ammo/mana and will just get up a couple of minutes after being defeated so a lot of battles involve starting a fight then letting your companion do all the work.[/.] [.]Lots of floating trees. Vegetation slides sideways until you get close enough for the more detailed model to kick in.[/.] [.]The world is really foggy - possibly to hide the graphics engine screwiness. You can fix this with an ini change, though. (Doing so actually improves framerate!)[/.] [.]Instead of invisible walls, they put in areas that are lethally radioactive for no obvious reason I can find. You'd think the the vegetation would, you know, die but you're only clue is the Geiger counter ticks and green tint when you wander in.[/.]
But even with all that, I'm loving the game! Exploring with the jet pack is fun. The over-all story has been interesting even if some of the individual dialog is weak. There's a great sense of satisfaction when you finally get yourself a good weapon and can start killing monsters instead of just running from them all the time, too. And there's always Piranha Byte's system of having to work to pick a class. The world has been really intersting but I'm not yet sure if some of the more interesting bits are because the devs are being clever or if they just screwed up in ways that could work. For instance, you can see the moon rotating on its axis in the night sky but it isn't rising, moving across the sky, and setting. That makes me think the body I'm on is tidally locked but the moon isn't - which probably means the thing I'm standing on is actually the moon and the "moon" is the main planet! Cool! Or maybe the devs just didn't have the time/resources/gumption to make the moon move across the sky, in which case it sucks.

 • Wooden voice acting - and not just the main character who's supposed to have little emotion
 • Companion banter is pretty weak
 • To warn you that your jet pack is about to run out of fuel, it cuts out, causing you to drop more so you'll need even more fuel to get where you want to go. Who thought that was smart!?
 • Some ambient sounds are downright annoying. Farmers scratch the ground. Any time there's rock around (which is often in this landscape), you'll hear an annoying pebbles-falling sound.
 • Can we please agree on one pronunciation of the deity's name? At least inside the priesthood!?
 • Companion abuse - your companion has unlimited ammo/mana and will just get up a couple of minutes after being defeated so a lot of battles involve starting a fight then letting your companion do all the work.
 • Lots of floating trees. Vegetation slides sideways until you get close enough for the more detailed model to kick in.

^^^ Zloth, you just described the premise of every Piranha Bytes game ever LOL. Horrible game engine, clumsy dialogue, clunky combat, and immensely satisfying. Equal parts frustrating and brilliant. Or is it accidentally brilliant? LOL

Is this even with 3D Vision turned off? I think I only crashed once in my entire play-through. Have you checked temperatures?

Hey, this is the game i will play if i have some time.....but I CANT LET IT BE to make it....better.... I have converted the fix to the newest Migoto (1.3.11) so i can use the profile switches for auto inventory. I have fixed the remaining UI things with auto-switches for every situation. Hence looting, menue and inventory are autoscaled in depth for best view. I have pushed the jetpack fuel indicator over the character and corrected the wrong dust/smoke lights. AND: I have made a real auto-depth scaling crosshair !!!!!! AND: The enemy health bar and name i have made also auto depth.... OK it depends ont he Y angel you view but this is much more YEAH than a fixed depth! YEAHH This is the first game i made with a real depth crosshair.....GREAT SUCCESS !!! ....some more testing and i will release an update here. Hopefuilly MX-2 is not angry...
AND: I have made a real auto-depth scaling crosshair !!!!!!
Auto-depth crosshair!? That's pretty awesome, all right! I like the idea of auto-depthing HUDs, too. Even when I set them to pop out they sometimes aren't popped out enough.
