Interesting. I've held off on purchasing because I only want to play it on the Rift. Right now, one of the big issues is that there's zero 3D in Rift mode. Actually, this is the other way around. If they are playing on a larger screen, and take snapshots, those snapshots will look like low depth on your smaller monitor.
The IPD is a constant, and for an up close image the left and right will be much farther apart. Think of an object at infinity. It will be at full IPD. Up close that's a huge percentage of your screen, maybe 1/3. On a distant TV or projector, that same 65mm will be maybe 1/20 of the screen.
So, if you shrink that projector screen down to monitor size, that 1/20 screen looks to be much, much closer than infinity. Hence, looks like low depth.
Yep, that's what I meant. On their screen, a lower rendered depth looks deeper for them because their screen is larger. But when I see that same rendered depth on my screen, it seems much more shallow because my screen is much smaller, so the distance is much smaller.
ANy one got this working yet. Doesnt mater if I have stereoscopic 3D enabled or disabled in NCP, there is no 720p resolution in game.
Ive been on the forums and twitter/facebook to codemasters but no response.
Ive tried manually changing the ini files and making them read only to no avail!
Starting to do my head in as this game is awesome!
Someone throw me a bone please!
Hi have got it working. First, set windows desktop resolution to 1280x720 3D mode. Then choose 1280x768 as resolution in game when the game is running. Then when the new resolution is set in game, I press ALT+ENTER to toggle from fullscreen to window mode, then ALT+ENTER once again to go back to fullscreen. The game is now showing "CUSTOM" as the current resolution in the settings and is not running in 1280x720. Press CTRL+T if needed to toggle 3D vision ON/OFF. This is working for me anyways.
But I would love for them to include a proper 1280x720 setting, that would be much better.
By the way, it looks really good in 3D, but you have to set shadows to ULTRA-LOW in order for 3D to work nicely.

is there any proper way to setup the depth and convergence.
yes i know the convergence affects kind of the level you are in.
i have never used lot´s of depth but in dirt it seems im more into game if i set the depth to half
or something and the convergence so that the hood is almoust picture on top of picture. i drive from the hood.
I have 135 inch screen and the separation starts to be quite a bit with depth set down to half.
is there a measure that is concidered bad, too much separation ? can you get popout with low
measures of depth. If the depth is like say at the half it is at first a little too much but then
your yeys get used to it but next time you launch your eye pop out of your head because the separation is
too much for an fresh eye.
3D is pretty good. And im suprised find in runs ok with 2way sli of gtx660Ti all maxed out. -msaa
and anisotrophy....allthough as i write im beginning to think should i use it...it might make a big difference on "sharpness"

You just have to adjust depth and convergence until it feels good for your personal taste. There is no proper way. It also depends on the size of the monitor, the game itself and the distance you sit from your screen. I find the best 3D experience when I play on my 150" projector screen to be the bumper cam, full depth and convergence set so that the road surface begins at about screen depth with little or no "popout". But that is just my personal taste.

man you got some crazy eyes or im doing something wrong. 1 third of the max setting is about all i can take. and if i go measure the difference in pictures from the screen its propaby 7-8 cm. after that im atleast gonna need some new eyeballs to my ears to watch the 3D :D
I can't get the game to use 720p for 3DTVPlay. There is simply no 1280x720 resolution selectable. Played around with .ini files with no success. Just to see how 3D looked, ran 1920x1080x24hz. Looked great at least but can't play at that refresh rate obviously.
So I had the same problem with the resolutuion and refreshrate
trie using the tool , gedasato
with that you can force the game to do 720/60hz
really a great game in 3D, though shadows are bit broken.

I created a 3DMigoto Fix for the shadows and a few other things that were bothering me here:
http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2015/06/dirt-rally-early-access.html
The game already looks good in 3D, but I could not deal with shadows at incorrect depth, it was killing me.
Thanks to bo3b for resolving a game bug that was preventing the fix from work :-)
This is a great game, performance is amazing as well - I get constant 60FPS on Ultra settings with 4xMSAA (SLI 980). To be honest the game looks just as good on Medium settings, especially since you are whizzing by everything as fast as you can anyway.

any idea. im getting smooth gameplay but sometimes i get frame chokes (don´t know how else to describe them) in other eye, and they seem to be happening in the same places. still nothing can be seen from the replay. only in gameplay

Yep, that's what I meant. On their screen, a lower rendered depth looks deeper for them because their screen is larger. But when I see that same rendered depth on my screen, it seems much more shallow because my screen is much smaller, so the distance is much smaller.
