The Witcher 2 in 3D Vision Official thread from NVIDIA

Hi guys.
I started playing last night and it is incredible in 3d, I am running it maxed with ubersampling off, although the fps seems really smooth so I might try it.
I have one small problem though, I get slight flickering at the edge of the screen with the textures, it's not with the glasses as it does it when I take them off, does anyone know what causes this? it tends to be noticeable indoors, I can't see any sign of it walking round Flotsam.

I think thats fustrum. Because 3D sorts of allows you to see beyond the usual extent of the screen you can often see where the devs limit the drawing of the scenes. This shows as a polygons of white or very basic textures. What you have to do is change the fustrum settings, Ctrl + F11 remembering to enable the unlock shortcut keys in control panel. There are 3 settings: off, stretched (why would you ever use that setting?) and bars. The bar setting is the one I use. I wish nvidia provided 5 settings: Off, 1/2 stretched, 1/2 bar, stretched and bar as the defaults are often too severe.
You very quickly get used to it.

frustum seems to have some errors during in-engine cut scenes, despite frustum presets selected.
A minor annoyance but probably could be fixed with new driver (but please don't break anything else!)

Guys, have I missed something? I had the game updated to 1.3 and was using a nvidia driver 275 something or other. The shadow problem seemed solved, but for some reason the screen would periodically freeze, the go black, before coming back again. I thought perhaps I still needed the repairs from the Nvidia side, so I downloaded the latest drivers...........and now the bloody shadow problem is back! What's going on? I also applied TW2 patch 1.35 but that doesn't help.

Sounds like a driver reset. If that's the case, then your card might be overheating or the power supply is not strong enough. Could also be a general hardware failure.

If I exit the game (alt Tab etc) and return the shadows mess up. A quick save then load remedies the problem. Does this fix it for you Muizer?

Looks like a false alarm, at least as far as the shadows are concerned. I did a clean install of the new driver and the shadows are OK again. About the freezing, I haven't checked yet. I wouldn't be surprised if it were a hardware issue. This is the first game that really brought it home to me I need to upgrade my machine. Autodetect suggests the lowest settings.......

hey guys,
What settings can be turned off that won't have any effect on details but boost performance in 3D?
and i would advise to use Witcher 2 Tweaker

I would loose the cutscene DoF, and defo motion blur (totally superfluous in 3D - your eyes will blur happily on their own without it /smile2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':))' /> Also remove shafts as they are a 2D effect - nasty!
If you can stomach it, dropping the res down one setting will give huge FPS gains! The style of the graphics in this game seems to allow lower a res without serious image degregation, IMO.
edit
If you haven't done so already, replay the game but take the other choice. Chapter 2, which is massive, is COMPLETELY different (map, plot, everything!)

i have a 2600k,16gb vengeance 1866,2x590gtx and 3 alienware optx 23" fhd 3d
i have the latest drivers from nvidia and the latest patch for the witcher, but my framerate is incredibly low,i saw people here having no probs with surround resolutions...can you help me?
only one note,my game is not original.
so if that would be a bad note i'll go to buy one tomorrow morning...

Hmm interesting.
How low is your framerate actually in 3D Surround? I use only 1xGTX590 (Oced that is true to juice everything from it) and 3x Samsung 2233rz monitors (3x1680)x1050+ bezel correction =5230x1050. Everything is set on Ultra without "uberstuff sampling" and in 3D I get 30-40fps on 2D I get around 60-80fps.
You could try to disable 1 gtx 590 as there are some problems with quad sli in some games and try to run with just one card and see if you have any improvements.

but with the 2600k @ stock i'm limited without overclocking it?

I have one small problem though, I get slight flickering at the edge of the screen with the textures, it's not with the glasses as it does it when I take them off, does anyone know what causes this? it tends to be noticeable indoors, I can't see any sign of it walking round Flotsam.
Thank you

What settings can be turned off that won't have any effect on details but boost performance in 3D?

If you can stomach it, dropping the res down one setting will give huge FPS gains! The style of the graphics in this game seems to allow lower a res without serious image degregation, IMO.
edit
If you haven't done so already, replay the game but take the other choice. Chapter 2, which is massive, is COMPLETELY different (map, plot, everything!)

Is the framerate ok if you're using a standard resolution w/o surround?
