Pretty sure the PS3 can't trigger the 3D Vision glasses, so no. It'd need nvidia to make some PS3 drivers for the emitter or something like that, and I don't think that's at all likely.

Wonder if it will work with a 3D monitor? I would love to play wipeout HD in 3D.

I know a while back people got avatar on the ps3 working with 3d vision. They launched the game on the ps3, then on the pc they launched some 3d conent such as a video or the nvidia test, this then enabled the glasses.

It was reported as working but i'm not sure how they were achieving the sync. Someone mentioned using a sync cable between the tv and the 3d emitter but this would work for all devices such as my Acer h5360 projector.

What i'm more interested to know is if the xpand102 dlp link glasses would work with the ps3 and a dlp link projector. I persoanlly canot see why not but i'm only guessing as to hoe the output from the ps3 will look. If the are outputtin 120hz then it should be fine. If they are sending side by side or something and letting the tv do the conversion then we are screwed!

The PS3 does not output 120Hz frame sequential so the answer is no.

Sony announced that their games would only support hdmi1.4 3DTV. support for other displays should be possible but the developers need to add support themselves (like Ubisoft did with Avatar the game).
I haven't read any detailed report about TV support for the final games that will be released today so I don't know if Sony added any support for other displays (I seriously believe they won't add any : because their 3DTVs only use Hdmi1.4)

The trick that could be used with Avatar on consoles only works if you have a TV with a Vesa 3D sync port (these are the Checkerboard 3D rear projection DLP HDTVs from Mitsubishi and Samsung). It does not work with any of the currently available LCD monitors or the currently available front projectors.

Watch out for hdmi 1.4 handshakes.
Invincible Tiger and Avatar do not use Hdmi1.4, they just display whatever format the user asks.
With the new Sony games if the PS3 detects your capture card is not an Hdmi1.4 device, it may refuse to activate the 3D mode. It all depends on how Sony implements 3D in the games.
They may play fair and let you send the 3D picture to your hdmi1.1 capture card or play rough to force your hand. After all what Sony really wants with this is for you to buy a new 3DTV (preferably a new Sony Bravia 3DTV instead of one of the older competitors)

My guess is they'll play rough : Sony will make it mandatory to use hdmi1.4 frame packing and your capture method won't work.

Well today is the day.. everyone get to work on finding ways to make this go.. I cant wait to see if we can get it running.. I have a rear projection DLP Mitshubishi.. so I am going to try a few of the above solutions and see it they work.

Wow, thats pretty good solution.

Is there any input or video lag? Would this method support checkerboard? I assume it will as long as your computer steroscopic settings indicate you are using a DLP...

Seen on another forum somewhere someone doing this on their cable box 3D, yep lets hope sony plays nice otherwise I think because you are capturing the feed there could always be a hack around software wise.

Well thats that then, just downloaded the 3d update for pain and tried it on the acer h5360 3d dlp projector. The ps3 does not attempt to switch into any sort of 3d display mode and just stays displaying a completely clear 2d image.

Looks like they are definately using either a hdmi 1.4 only display mode or they are doing a HDMI handshake that is reporting 1.3 and therefore does not enable 3d mode.

Guess it's over to Acer now to see if there is anything they can do in firmware to make it compatible.

Was kind of hoping this would drag me back into ps3 gaming but I just can't stand playing games in 2d anymore :)

Hdmi has a licensing fee, im not sure those licenses carry over 1.3 to 1.4.

How do you record this at all?
