How good is 3D vision? Where can I try it?
Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying the Acer GD245HQ 23.6" monitor + the 3D vision kit. But before I buy I would like to hear all your opinions on the 3D vision, its quality/performance etc.

Also does anyone know a place where I could test it out. preferably somewhere in London.

Thanks :D

3d vision is in a word; AMAZING!

Once you try a game in 3d, you won't want to play it in 2d again.

Have you ever had a lucid dream ? High res content that pops
out of your screen and floats in the air is about as close as
you can come to hallucinating, without taking drugs. In fact
I'd even argue what you see when using 3d vision IS a hallucination,
as the 3d image actually takes place in your BRAIN.

It's a trip, and definitely the future of gaming! Get it you won't
be disappointed.. well, except when it comes to driver
support, but it's Nvidia, that's given ;)

How is 3d Vision...
let's see...I have been gaming since the Ping Pong , Tandy Coco, C64 days....as much as we old time gamers cherish and feel how awesome gaming was back then (nostalgia wise) I have never been more into gaming as I have since I got 3d vision with my DLP tv....the experience of LIVING the game is just without equal.
You will see people put it down, mostly ATI users trying to hype their Eyefinity or Flatfinity as I like to call it but real gamers that have tried 3D Vision cannot deny the truth, we have awesome 3D games and it is just plain silly having to experience them in 2D....after you go 3D there is no coming back. :-)

Now im gonna come in all negative /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />

Just make sure you understand the draw backs of the product first! So for example the ghosting, especialy if u get that or any other lcd moniter.

But!

Im not all negative and will say its seriously awesome! And when people say it comes out of your screen ect, there not lying!

My personal opinion of the product is very high and it dosent fail to impress my freinds when they pop by. Really is worth seeing!

I don't know for you where you can see it.....

I do know that I'm surprised there is not a thread about people singing the blues because they lost their job because of their inability to get off of their respectable computers and go to work like good boys and girls!!!

I know this sounds wierd, but when I'm playing in a game sometimes, I feel like it is more real than real life!!!!!

Sometimes you got to go with blind faith. I am an avid follower and disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ. I will follow him and follow 3d Vision!!! /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />

(I know people with LCD's don't want to hear this but playing on a DLP truly elimates alot of ghosting and will make your experience better. I have a Samsung LED DLP and I have to say that my 3d experience in many games is completly perfect! no ghosting, no eye strain, nothing but perfection!)

It's worth it. I'd recommend to anyone, but with a warning sticker. Takes time to adapt, you need to learn about 3D. It's really not plug and play. /sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sorcerer:' />

For me, when I took the plunge and tried it for the first time (and with 100% depth, no less), the experience was literally breathtaking and I wish I could replicate that feeling again. There is nothing like the first time you are able to see "into" the game world and object and characters have real depth. My first game was Zombie Panic: Source, and at first all I wanted to do was stand back and watch people from a distance....it was so amazing seeing things with actual depth come and go from me. It just felt right and natural, and I knew right then and there that this was the future of not only video games, but video in general.

But of course soon after I started noticing the ghosting and the pains of waiting for driver updates and less than spectacular profiles. Not to mention the very high number of games without a built-in 3D cursor (having to use Nvidia's replacement is not the same). The ghosting is mostly because of the monitor though, that's why I'm getting an H5360, and I've learned to live with the absence of 3D cursors in many games.

Overall I can see 3D gaining popularity very rapidly once one of the major consoles adopt it into their games. Once people start realizing that it's easy to get the Avatar-style depth-focused 3D in video games, adoption will pick up speed.

So definitely yes, go for it.

I have had 3d vision for a week now so I'll add my 2 cents on my experience so far. Basically my opinion is this is absolutely the next step in gaming, whether its nvidia's solution or some other product this is going to be the next big thing. I hear a lot of people taking about the trouble and flaws with 3d vision, and there absolutely is. I have had blue screen crashes, game freezes, all kinds of wacky stuff. but all of those things(which were probably my fault to begin with) are of small consequence once you get that first game adjusted perfect. IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND! Maybe its cause I am on a proj but the 3d is just epic. I could write pages of all the awesome moments I have had so far in just a week on a couple of games but I am not I am just going to say that In my opinion while the tech is pretty new and hasn't really been perfected yet so it will cause some growing pains for the end-user, its absolutely worth it. I imagine its going to become a standard in gaming in a few years. If we were to look five years in the future the kids not playing in 3d will be like the kids now still playin 8bit nintendo. so yeah if you have the money I would buy it. if you are just leery about the 3d effect then its not an issue the 3d is awesome.

Well...... I'm convinced :D Thanks for all your replys, they destroyed my doubts about how good 3D vision actually is.

I cant order just yet because the monitor I want doesn't come out until sometime in April. I'm currently using a 27" LG and I cant go back to using a 22" so I'll hold out for the 24".

I'd still like to try them out if anyone knows of a place in London that has them?

That's where I got mine from too! As soon as they got them in I rushed down there to Bolton to pick one up(I didn't even want to wait for it to be mailed, or pay the charge) even then there were only 25 available! =) Spent ages waiting for it, was a bit of a pain dragging the box back but yeah, worth it.

I just wish my brain and eyes were less sensitive to 60hz as I still see flicker. :(

Flicker is an issue for sensitive people but it more of an issue for competitive gaming and FPS games like COD4...still for me it is 3D or nothing lol

One thing I've found amusing about gaming in 3D is that, like most things, you begin to take it for granted. For instance, playing Perfect World the other night, I was looking at a shoreline, a bit of water, some sand, a line of forest, maybe some mountains in the distance. I looked at it and thought "Hmm, not bad. Not bad at all." Then, just for kicks, I shut off 3D Vision and lowered the glasses. "Eww!" was my knee-jerk reaction. How dull! How uninspired! For the love of god, turn the 3D Vision back on!

Granted, 3D does not have that much of an effect on every game, but when it does, you feel like you already have your money's worth from the glasses.
