OMG I'd completely forgotten and now it's too late?
I just dusted off my 1st gen 3D vision wireless glasses from 5 or so years ago and to my surprise they charged great. Wow. Then I loaded Skyrim ENB, LA Noire and Dragon Age 1. Now I know I'm using a pair of 780Ti in SLI but OMG this is amazing. So much better than back then. Minimal ghosting, super slick performance and incredible depth of field. This is infinitely better than before. Obviously driver support and horsepower are responsible for lighting up these older visceral 3D worlds and I'm amazing family and friends all over again. I' m also an Oculus Dk1& DK2 owner. I love them both for different reasons. The Emerson on the oculus is unsurpassed but the perfect finely crafted dioramas I see inside my monitor are equally as impressive on the 3D Vision. When Oculus reaches 4k then maybe just maybe we might get somewhere near what I,m seeing here today. I then started to look for modern game support and investigated Nvidia 3D vision 2 only to discover the party is almost over as they're pretty much unavailable these days. I'm so disappointed. Is this end of an era?

There are community fixes for games, mostly DX9. There are some for DX 11, but it's quite a bit more difficult. There is also an OpenGL wrapper. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/10/game-list-automatically-updated.html http://3dsurroundgaming.com/OGL3DVision.html A few other links http://ramblingsofa3dgamer.blogspot.com/ http://3dsurroundgaming.com/ http://3dsolutiongaming.com/ http://3dvision-blog.com/

Is this end of an era?
This question was posed very recently on this forum somewhere, and an Nvidia representative stated that there are no plans to stop production of 3D Vision 2 kits, despite an immediate shortage right now, so they should become available. 3D in general is not the "hot new thing" it was 4-5 years ago, and Nvidia are simply not pushing the technology with game developers anymore. That's just a sad fact, though they did invest in the compatibility mode extensions earlier this year, and there are no plans to actually drop 3D Vision driver support. The result though is that very few new games are released with any 3D support, from either developer or nvidia. We in the community do our own fixes now (where possible) - check out the helixblog site (see my signature below) where we post DX9 fixes using the helix wrapper, OpenGL fixes using Helifax's wrapper, and DX11 fixes using the 3DMigoto wrapper.
well..., I think plans from Nvidia can change very fast..., difficult for me to trust.
Well, like I often post (hope I'm not too annoying): What difference does that make? Is this about the future? Who cares? Right at this second you can play over 285 games in great 3D! Is that not enough? I still submit that it's an incredible gaming bargain right this second, even if not another game is fixed. Play Dead Space 3 in HelixReady 3D, then play AC Unity in cyclops mode, and tell me which is more fun. If you only care about the future, and future games, then I don't think any of us would argue it's the coming thing. We have no idea about the future and whether we can fix games, or will even have the motivation to do so. I know that eqzitara was uncomfortable recommending 3D Vision to anyone because of the uncertain future, but I think as long as someone is happy with what is available right this second, they will not be disappointed.

Seems to be the natural evolution in gaming. I'll add, that a lot of the newer "AAA" titles for that buzz word "Next Gen" don't appear that great, at least in my eyes for the sole reason that they seem nothing more than console games. I prefer some of the older PC Titles that can be modded and refresh the game in so many creative ways. This is a good site for tons of mods http://www.nexusmods.com/games/? I have recently been spending more time with older titles and modding them for a new game experience. Some of old favorites that I played back in the day were in 2D. I just did two play throughs for the older Thief series and I not for once got the feeling of "been there done that". It was a whole new experience in 3D and the Thief universe is still my favorite game series after all these years. With fan mission mods the texture mods and hours of gameplay, it is truly immersive in 3D. http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138821 I am just starting a re-play of Mass effect Triology with all the texure mods, sweetfx and of course the Mass Effect universe. I have not got bored of this. Technology will evolve and I still maintain that Virtual Reality is the next major step. It will take time, but we got 3D Vision until the next thing since sliced bread.....

I agree with bo3b, if a game console released today with 285 games, it would have mindblowing support. 3D is one of those technologies that changes games so much that they are worth playing again, it really adds so much. Fixes are coming, even if in 2015 we only get 10-15 more games working, for me it's worth it. There are new fixers around, we have a working injector with 3dmigoto and opengl injector, great tutorials, and some of the best modders are still really committed to the technology. Besides, since you mention that you have a DK2, Nvidia has promised VR Direct for DK2 with their 900s cards, supposedly that means that Nvidia will add 3d vision support on DK2, so if they keep their word, there will be hundreds of games playable in VR when they finally release that update. Hopefully that will lead to a renewed interest in 3d vision from developers.

I'd say with all the marketing promoting the 900 series and the work they say they are doing making their 3d vision library (lol) work with the Rift and all the latency decreases they were trumpeting for it, they are giving up on 3d monitors. I imagine the extra cost they are lumbered with getting companies to produce 3D vision models was more than 3D kits were making them.

Fallout 3 was awesome. Almost had a Robinson Crusoe feel to it. In my top 5 games of all time. How is it in 3d?

Fallout 3 in 3D! Awesome. Even when I couldn't hack the computers properly because I couldn't see right. Early 3D Vision experiments with 3 used CRTs in Surround, before Surround existed. TripleHead2Go, running at 85Hz.
