8800 + 7900?
With 8800 XP stereo drivers MIA and probably a long way off, I am considering adding a 7600/7900 in the other PCIe slot as a temporary fix for my 3D habit. I have a water cooled setup, so I don't care to take the time to remove the 8800, and could use the 7xxx card in my wife's computer when it is time for an upgrade.

Anyway, would I have problems with having two sets of Nvidia drivers on my machine? It sound like a potential mess to me.

I don't see why not? I am running my 8800 and a Radeon X850 XT in my system so it should work. Just make sure the 8800 is in the primary slot and the 7--- one is in the second slot.

You can switch over to the other card by going to your desktop display settings and extending, then use primary for the 7--- card and then clicking the 8800 (#1 box) and then unchecking the extended display option. Your monitor will turn off, unplug it and put it in the second GPU. Done. Do the same to switch back only reversed.

EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS + ATi Sapphire Radeon X850 XT (yes, in the same computer; nVidia TV out stinks, but ATi rocks with it!!!)

2x Cooler Master 6 HDD coolers (primary usage drives)
2x PSU's (primary 600W psu, secondary 350W psu modded solely to power the ATi card)

It does suck, thanks for the drivers.

Based on feedback I may want to get an 8800 myself ("may", who am I kidding?? :P)

I am still looking forward to the 8600 Ultra 512MB, sweet spot on price/performance for me.

I started a thread on the 8800 series drivers: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=32631

Just a quick update. I contacted nVidia support with this question, and they felt I would have driver conflict issues if I tried installing both cards. I then asked if a stereo driver for the 8800 will be ready soon, they stated they will be available in the future but could not provide a specific date. If I wanted 3d now they suggested I replace the 8800 with a 7900 card.

you will end up with driver issues. a few here have tried modified 8800 drivers that have the other card added in and it does work, but there always seem to be stability issues and issues with videos, games, etc

i remember replying to a couple threads about it, you might be able to search for posts with my username to locate more info.
