Read the GTX 580 and GTX 580 SLI reviews on guru3d.com. I can safely say that the GTX 580 is outperformed by not only the GTX 480 SLI, but also the GTX 470 SLI /shock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Also, max 10 to 15 fps difference between GTX 480 SLI and GTX 580 SLI, that too when both setups give more than 90-110 fps /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .
So, yes, I'm gonna skip this generation and wait for the GTX 680 before even thinking of upgrading !
Buying the 2nd GTX 480 certainly paid of for me /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
When I got my GTX8800 back when they lasted over a year, befor they got dethrone, but in my view was still as fast as the new replacement. I'm glad I got two GTX460 1 gig EE models instead of the GTX485 at least they not hear monsters or noise makers....CHEERS
PS: Nvidia better start talking to game company's to make game for PC only instead of this poor ported console crap to run games on a $500 dollar card that cost more than a monitor and best Xbox360 offers...Don't need to be a brain to figure this one out....CHEERS

BTW: Where did tab for my top 10 post get to ???. Did I over look it !!.

my sli gtx 460's will beat it in some situations, but i would stil prefer to have a single gtx 580 as it offers upgradability

My SLI GTX 480s will beat the 580 in EVERY situation /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
But yes, people with SLI GTX 460s should seriously think of buying the 580. They can always pop in another 580 to go SLI later !

Why do you continue to state an obvious statement? You are comparing 960 cores to 512 cores.

Not only are the 580's quicker, they're MUCH quieter! I've already ordered 2 and will be replacing my 480 SLI setup as soon as they get here. Woot!

Yeah decisions decisions... The 580 is appealing though but your are right about the 10-15 increase. Looking at the raw numbers though, a lot of power locked up as indicated by that Vantage non-Physx score. I bet newer drivers will yield better results.
Some of the higher score has to do with the speed of processing FP16 textures. Per clock cycle a GF110 TMU can filter twice as many FP16 Texels as a GF100 TMU. In older games INT8 textures are used so there is no gain over GF100 TMUs. So in newer apps using FP16 textures, the GTX 580 effectively doubles the TMU count while maintaining a lower power consumption.

So right now most games are showing the 10% clock increase plus the 6% shader increase. Future games that take advantage of the 580's improved FP16 processing, z-culling, and embedded polymorph engine will have dramatically improved performance.

I love that new cooler, it is 100% amazing!

Oh, its Ingmar who's the millionaire... I'm only an "almost millionaire" /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .
I wouldn't dream of replacing SLI GTX 480s( even though I could afford it) with SLI GTX 580s when there's no significant performance difference.
Methinks Ingmar overstates the noise and heat. My rig is neither noisy nor hot.... having a Zotac AMP GTX 480 which is almost noiseless, helps.
Anyway, when I put on my Razer Megalodon 7.1 Surround Sound Headphones, I can hear nothing but the Game I'm playing /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Like I said earlier, I'll THINK of upgrading when the GTX 680 or something comes along.
Upgrading from SLI GTX 480s just because of the noise and heat (alleged) just doesn't make sense to me !

you guys are just too radical for me . i thought i was in the Nidia forums not the millionaires club /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

I just forked out for a really nice sli 480 setup, and was soooo gutted when i learned these came out today, I literally am still breaking it in, but I didn't know they were coming out, I thought the 480's where still new!!

Errhm, This thread is consoling, woohoo!
