Thinking of getting some 3d glasses for gaming... Need some help, suggestions
Alright, from what I've looked at so far it seems like getting some decent 3d galsses and setting them up will take a ton of time and even then it may not work depending on my hardware, monitor, etc. So I'm here for a few questions and whatnot and hopefully I can get a good idea of what to do here.

My monitor is a Gateway FPD1975W. Max refresh rate is 75hz, max resoulution is 1440 x 900. It's widescreen (obviously) and is 19", and it's an LCD (once again, of course.)

Graphics card is an ASUS 7800 GTX. Already downloaded the stereo drivers and got them installed.

Now, I 'acquired' some cheap 3d glasses from the local IMAX theater. Can I configure the drivers to work with them? They aren't red/blue or red/green like ones I've seen before, one eye is really dark and the other isn't.

Also wondering if my monitor is even good enough. I know it's better to have a much higher refresh rate.

So, any suggestions?

I don't know much about the IMAX glasses, but it seems like if you're willing to spend $50 on wired edimensional glasses, that would be a more straightforward path to getting things working.

As far as your monitor, you will just have to try it and see if the amount of flickering is unacceptable for you. But you won't know that until you try it. I use 85Hz and I don't have a problem with flickering (at least I don't notice it).

Hope that helps.

The IMAX glasses are polarized. To use them, you need to buy a special LCD dual head monitor or rig up to projectors on your wall. It would be better to use a CRT monitor and some shutter glasses (LCD glasses) like nathan said above.

Thanks a ton. I've got the e-dimensional glasses bookmarked, and I've got an old CRT laying around if the refresh rate is too low for me. Thanks a ton guys.

Howdy ... :)

I'd recommend to get a pair of these cheap wired shutter glasses from Razor3D

http://www.razor3d.de/3d_pc.asp

the only cost 18 - 20 Euros (!) and will let you fully evaluate the effect of "real" 3D

:)

I have one of those and I'm very impressed by their price/performance ratio.

Cheers,
Maggi

with a lcd monitor there will be flicker just stop by best buy and get a $99 ctr monitor and use that withe the edimensional glasses. as you are not useing a nvidia card you will be using their sofware interface and it is slow as all getup might want to get a new card as well.
