3D Vision + HMZ-T# + Head tracking. Does anyone use it?
I was curious if anyone actually uses hmz-t# and head tracking with 3d vision. When I get money I kind of want to play around with it. Was curious of anyone's feedback especially since more people are working on proper headtracking with oculus rift I figured it would be cool to try out. And its pretty easy to get same tracker as the rift.
Im just not sure how big the cons are of using such a set up like weight+ cables. Im not thinking standing up and movement because that thing is massive. Rather remain stationary with perhaps hydra. Was wondering if anyone had feedback before going into such an investment.
Edit: I wrote 3d vision but I guess its "technically" 3D TV play.

It's actually supported via 3DTV Play not 3D Vision.
Cybereality has/had one, PM him.
He made a video of one using head tracking, I'll link it if I can find it.
Oops he had the Vuzix 1200VR HMD
Anyway, if you haven't seen the Video check it out.

I don't think you want to do that. In my case, HMZ-t1 is great, but it's heavy, the first few minutes are ok, later on it can strain your neck. I'm already used to it, but at first you'll hardly use it for an hour straight. Nowadays I can use it for hours, still I don't think you want to be moving your head constantly with it. There are many mods out there that help with this, putting a weight on the back of the HMZ-T1 to compensate a bit, though I haven't tried them since I'm fine by now with it.
If you really want to try it, get an HMZ-T2 and avoid the T1, it's lighter so it may work better.

I'm a heavy user of the Sony HMZ-T1 - its a great device. I have mine modded to cycle helmet for comfort (very easy to do - only needed two cable ties), I can use the device all day with no issues what so ever. I regularly game in 3 - 4 hour sessions on an evening, without the cycle helmet mod this would not be possible.
For motion tracking I use:-
- TrackIR (for seated sim types games, flight sims, race sims etc)
- Wiimotion Plus & GlovePie (Used to emulate mouse movement & allows for 360 degree movement - typically used in games like Skyrim)
One nice advantage of having the HMZ-T1 mounted to a cycle helmet is that I can clip any attachment I want to the helmet with ease and then remove it when I'm done.
The 3D experienced on the HMZ-T1 is the best I have seen and is ghosting free.
All round I think its well worth the money. I just wish it had a higher FOV - The rift beats it hands down on that front.

Thanks, I will have to seriously consider this.

So jealous, I couldnt even imagine skyrim/farcry 3[With all hud crap disabled] with such a setup not to mention how beautiful they look on 3D vision. I guess you get what you put into it, so kudos.

I don't know what you're using to clip stuff to the helmet but 1" velcro tape works great on stuff. I have a ton of the black stuff, mounted my PS Eye to the top of my DLP with it, a USB powered (TV powered so it works with everything, Wii. Wii U & GlovePIE) Wii sensor bar under the lip of my TV stand. It's good for permanent mounts like I'm using it for atm but it'd be great for swapable stuff like you're doing.

I had modded my HMZ-T1 a couple years ago and have the TrackiR 3 with the metal Vector clip mounted to the visor for sim racing and Arma FPS amd flight. It works really well. I also have a Rift DK1 to compare to. The trade off is better image with more bulk to better fov worse image less bulk. They both are fun and the view in the Rift if it was higher res would be the better choice. The Sony is plug n play with any content now so adding head tracking is really the only thing needed that you can add to it. I removed the headphones and some plastic around the nose bridge area and added a better headstrap system to mine. You can see what I did to mod it under FSP48 on youtube. I was working out of town at the time I did my mod. Nothing like a hotel room project using a soldering iron like a hot knife to trim away plastic and stink up the place.
I am in the process of trying to use my hydra for head tracking and looking for a tutorial if anyone has one that I haven't found yet. I loaned my Rift to my brother for a project so it's time to play with the Sony again.

I have my HMZ-T1 sitting next to my RIG. Just broke my IR led for my trackir 5. I just use my Razer Hydra for basic controls. I honestly haven't touched the HMZ-T1 recently..... The 3D TV Play is still very underwhelming for me compared to 3D vision. And Since I have Surround... sometimes its hard to justify just using the HMD.
Waiting patiently on My DK2.

Havent heard anyone else mention this yet, so thought I'd throw it out there...
I've used the Carl Zeiss Head Tracker for quite a while with 3D vision and a 160" inch screen & it gives a really great effect in some games... & plus it works with every single game as it's simply a mouse controller.. ( so zero lag )
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-001-CZ
I simply tape it to the side of my 3d vision glasses and I also at times sit stupidly close to my 160" screen ( 1 - 2 meters away ) and looking around in games like Far cry 3 at times is mindblowing immersion..

I've picked up an HMZ-T3W (primarily for movie watching) but was interested in finding a solution to work head tracking into the t3 for some gaming. Are you saying you used the Zeiss Head tracker by itself, without the actual cinemizer? Also, would you be willing/able to endorse this solution over the TrackIR 5?

It's good stuff indeed :)

Skyrim is indeed awesome with a HMD + Headtracking. Looks great even at 720P.
