3D Vision Surround @ 2160 x 1280 using Acer H5360 x 3 in portrait. Any experiences?

According to that surround requirements page the max resolution for projectors set up in portrait mode is 2160x1280 (720x1280 per projector). However there are 3D supported projectors which do 1280x800. This Viewsonic for example - http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-PJD6531w-Projector--120Hz-Lumens/dp/B0033PRQE2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299971042&sr=8-1
3 of those would give a native resolution of 2400x1280 which would look better and is closer to the 16x9 aspect ratio anyways. Would 3D surround work in that res. I don't see why not...but you never know.

Has anyone taken the plunge and got this up and running? I am very intrigued by running them in Portrait vs Landscape and if actual resolution increase in your field of view makes much of a difference.

Yay, thanks andrewf for your answer :D That's the kind of support I like to see. I have also been wanting to run a triple projector 3D setup as I have found 3D TVs to be lacking in the resolution department and portrait mode is very compatible with old games that don't like triple wide, hence why I don't run triple 3d monitors.
Now if you guys can just add OpenGL support then the 3d feature set would be approaching complete! :P *hinthint* RAGE *hinthint*

Generally speaking, projectors in portrait mode are a bad idea because of thermal issues. Also, I know of no projector manufacturer that will warranty their projectors mounted in portrait mode. Many manufacturers specifically put in their manuals to NOT mount them past certain degree of angle or in portrait. I've asked BenQ and Optoma engineers specifically about this option in a build I did awhile back and they wouldn't commit to it being a viable option (although in that case the BenQ W1000 did work just fine in portrait mode for at least 8 hours of nonstop testing). That being said, if it does not instantly burn out the bulb in portrait orientation, you should be ok after a bit of risky testing.
Also, butting projectors is wholly unnecessary. Just use NTHUSIM Plus and edge blend them. It works flawlessly with NVIDIA drivers and edge blending was added in version 3.0 released earlier this month. I wanted to work with NVIDIA on a few things previously in relation to NTHUSIM, but they gave me the constant brushoff via email. I've been running triple projector for two years now using both AMD and NVIDIA solutions. My current NVIDIA Surround setup uses 3-way SLI GTX470.

Be fully aware that you could mount the projector portrait and instantly blow a $200 bulb in the experiment or even have thermal damage to the projector.
