If you have a 3D capable TV set, you don't need to buy the 3DVision set (with emitter and glasses). Instead you can just buy the 3D TV Play software from nVidia, which uses the 3D capabilities of the TV Set (you have to use its glasses then and connect the PC with the TV using HDMI).
But please note that there are some severe limitations caused by the HDMI standard and the capabilities of your TV. You have to chose to either reduce the resolution of the image to 720p (i.e. 1280x720) or limit the framerate to 24 frames per second (because HDMI 1.4 can only transfer up to 24 3D images per second in full HD 1080p resolution). Also note that the PS3 and XBox360 is affected by the same limitations in 3D play.

The game almost grinds to a halt and I'm not talking stuttering, but sluggishness beyond playability, this is when I set everything to the max and disable any form of AA and AF (again, dx11 or dx9 with all setting to max, which are available for the corresponding mode). Running at 720p through 3dtvplay. I've tried setting physx to normal, but still no dice. I've also installed the latest physx version from the 290.36 beta (but not the beta itself, since the last time I tried it I got a disk read error when trying to enter Windows, so please do not install it, or at least make a Norton Ghost image).
Is anyone playing with the latest beta (290.36)?

You can't necessarily say that. Obviously it is the best setting in his opinion.
I tinker with the settings almost every time I start the game up. In Arkham Asylum I like having convergence agressive enough to acheive toyification, but I just can't bring myself to do that in such an open environment like Arkham City. It just doesn't look right that way. I've pretty much decided to leave it at full depth and slightly more aggressive convergence than the factory profile.
I'm using a dedicated GTS 450 and not having any PhysX issues. But when I upgraded my system I didn't do it with SLI in mind. When I DID have an SLI system, running in SLI mode was almost always the way to go. Don't bother trying to run a dedicated PhysX card when you can run SLI. But DX11 incurs a huge performance hit, almost 2x compared to DX9 so when there's a lot of PhysX on the screen you will notice a drop in FPS as those GPU cycles used for PhysX are no longer available for graphics. I actually pulled my PhysX 280 just yesterday because my gaming focus has shifted to Skyrim (and gf wanted fuzzy hair on her Sims 3 pets), but I'm absolutely sure Batman would benefit from a dedicated PhysX GPGPU in DX11 even on high-end set-ups like mine. In the benchmark however, I noticed right away in that first scene there's a big difference in smoothness panning across the room with DX11.
I just wish Rocksteady allowed us to choose which DX11 features we want instead of making it an all or nothing proposition. The HBAO and MVSS don't seem to offer much in terms of eye-candy over the existing DX9 shadows and AO; tesselation offers some subtle visual enhancements however so I would like to enable that and nothing else from the DX11 feature-set.

Even with my two 480GTX cards, the minimum and average scores in the benchmark are too low for my tastes with physx on high. I can pretty much keep everything else on high, even tesselation. My average score is about 4-5 frames lower with DX11 so I will probably just play it that way. Thanks for info. I have a high-end setup as well and hoping that DX11 would not be a huge performance hit. Can you be more specific on the framerates you're getting with DX11? (As mentioned before, I'm currently getting 50fps average on max DX9) And also, since I'm at work right now, can you tell me if the patch installs automatically through Windows Live? Or do I have to download it somewhere?

You just plug HDMI cable from your Video card into the 3D TV and enable #d vision output to that TV.
You can select 720p 3D for games or 1080p 3D for movies.

I tinker with the settings almost every time I start the game up. In Arkham Asylum I like having convergence agressive enough to acheive toyification, but I just can't bring myself to do that in such an open environment like Arkham City. It just doesn't look right that way. I've pretty much decided to leave it at full depth and slightly more aggressive convergence than the factory profile.
I'm using a dedicated GTS 450 and not having any PhysX issues. But when I upgraded my system I didn't do it with SLI in mind. When I DID have an SLI system, running in SLI mode was almost always the way to go. Don't bother trying to run a dedicated PhysX card when you can run SLI. It's a waste of GPU power in the second card, and too much load on the main card.

I just wish Rocksteady allowed us to choose which DX11 features we want instead of making it an all or nothing proposition. The HBAO and MVSS don't seem to offer much in terms of eye-candy over the existing DX9 shadows and AO; tesselation offers some subtle visual enhancements however so I would like to enable that and nothing else from the DX11 feature-set.

I ran the benchmark a few times and the DX11 stutters/hitches and low frame rate drops are definitely gone. But DX11 incurs a huge performance hit, almost 2x compared to DX9 so when there's a lot of PhysX on the screen you will notice a drop in FPS as those GPU cycles used for PhysX are no longer available for graphics. I actually pulled my PhysX 280 just yesterday because my gaming focus has shifted to Skyrim (and gf wanted fuzzy hair on her Sims 3 pets), but I'm absolutely sure Batman would benefit from a dedicated PhysX GPGPU in DX11 even on high-end set-ups like mine. In the benchmark however, I noticed right away in that first scene there's a big difference in smoothness panning across the room with DX11.

Thanks for info. I have a high-end setup as well and hoping that DX11 would not be a huge performance hit. Can you be more specific on the framerates you're getting with DX11? (As mentioned before, I'm currently getting 50fps average on max DX9) And also, since I'm at work right now, can you tell me if the patch installs automatically through Windows Live? Or do I have to download it somewhere?
