Something that should leads me to stop shader hacking.....
  1 / 2
...OK it’s hard to find the right words here for this topic... ... I know I have started some topics that announced that I will stop shader hacking....and I always came back to this one.... First of all I’ll explain why: We all do this NOT with the focus on any profit referring money. That’s for sure. I cannot promise that this is matching for all of the shader hackers but I am sure it’s matching to the most of us: - it's a great honor making fulfill things only 1 or 2 hands full of peoples are capable to do ==> This is something that makes me happy. I have started shader hacking and learning for fixing games that no one will fix and that I wanted to be fixed that I can play it. Since this date I was NOT playing any game, only fixing. It is like a drug doing things, making people happy and things only a few peoples are able to do. For me I need this to fulfill my live. I have a good payed day-job but in DO NOT GET the response i need to be happy even if my work is very well. A simple THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK fulfills me!!! A donation is a stage up for me to show that my work is honored. But at the end there are too many lurkers here that will FIRST OF ALL not read the description, making faults and reporting things that are avoidable if the description was read carefully and second there is often no response in anyway. THIS KILLS MY MOTIVATION!!! I HAVE TO SEND OUT A BIG THANK YOU for the 7 peoples that spends round 100 € together for the Metro: Exodus fix so far, I have promised my wife that we will go out for dinner and I’ll pay everything she want....for the 330 hrs. I was not present for her...a drop in the ocean...but more than nothing I can do now for her. For the future we have to stick together! Anyone who wants to keep 3DVision alive has to do something for this, more than just lurking around until things happens. AT THE END: I Do NOT MEAN shader hacker Donations!!!! Think of it! Keep in mind: WE ARE LEGION https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zwDhoXpk90 But not with a hand full of peoples !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS: I will not stop shader hacking if the majority of you will keep 3D vision alive. But that's from my hands.....currently i slow down a bit...

Dude, this is the 3rd frickin time you've made a post about whether or not you're going to quit shaderhacking. The first 2 times we were all very kind, understanding, and supportive towards you, but now this is turning into a joke. When I saw you started getting back into shaderhacking just days after the last time you swore up and down that you were finished, I thought, "Fine then, don't live up to your words. Just please don't come crying back to us AGAIN with another post about how awful it is or how you're messing up things with your family," yet here you are again. And another thing, despite you saying otherwise, this post does reek of being *suggestive* towards people giving donations. You're essentially implying, "If you want me to keep fixing games, stop asking for help or giving feedback that I don't want to hear, and keep giving me praise. And since money is even better than just saying thanks, that'll keep me around even longer!" Seriously, you're turning into Flugan 2.0 with all these posts that are either "Woe is me" or "Love me, shower me with attention, praise, and donations." (or in this case, a bit of both) At this point, either stop or don't stop. You're a grown ass man, make your own decisions and live with them or their consequences. But please shut up about it already! We've already shown you our concern and goodwill and you've spat in our faces afterwards twice now, so stop expecting further sympathy and/or thanks for your "noble" sacrifices to the community. Sorry to be harsh, but you pressed your luck with us one too many times for me to have not said what needed to be said.

I can truly empathize, because it is not hard to read a ReadMe or any type of written instruction with the exception of language barriers. But if it is written in English and the person understands English, there is really no excuse. There's always going to be that person that posts saying "the fix is broken on medium shadows", when it is clearly stated that the fix "only" works with the shadows on high. Which again, is understandable if it is a language barrier issue. I've said it before and will say it again. Many thanks to all that put any effort in any way into the enjoyment of stereoscopic gaming. Whether it be coders, shader hackers, app writers, testers, etc...

@Losti: Be sure to do what is right for you personally. You don't owe anyone here anything. Best approach is to do what you can without negatively impacting your life. If it's a genuine addiction and you cannot stop yourself to the point where it causes problems in real life, you should probably put it down. If you can find a balance where you put in some time and effort but can prevent it from becoming all-consuming, that is an ideal balance. My recommendation is to only work on games that you are personally interested in. That allows you to enjoy the fun of satisfaction of fixing a game, without any expectations. People on this forum are not the ones that you are trying to reach. There are maybe 10x the number of people out there that download and use the fixes without ever saying anything, and they cannot be reached. They are unlikely to ever give thanks. On this forum, everyone are well intentioned, and pretty much always give thanks when it's due. The people here are not the problem. Nevertheless, if you feel like people are ungrateful and it's bugging you- it's impacting your life in a negative way, and you should do less.
I have started shader hacking and learning for fixing games that no one will fix and that I wanted to be fixed that I can play it. Since this date I was NOT playing any game, only fixing. It is like a drug doing things, making people happy and things only a few peoples are able to do.
LOL I can sympathize probably more so then anyone here about that. I pretty much put myself in charge of answering all the installation/compatibility/etc for many many many years of not only my patches but all patches and 3D Vision in general. It wouldn't surprise me if people exceeded my post count overall but man. If you looked at the amount of posts I made during my time frame - yikes. I probably had twice as many posts then anyone on nvidia forums not to mention the blog. It was 90% tech support. Lets be real nothing you do, will ever make that better. People would rather have someone else figure it out for them even reading. Spending all that time was probably a bad idea since I spent so much time trying to get games patched as well - probably a hundred successes and god knows how many failures/things I was unhappy with. I once spent probably like 50+ hours trying to get seperate convergence settings to trigger for ME 2/3 based on lighting/shadow changes so it would turn on for gameplay/cinematic. Anywho.... Things aren't going to get better sorry to tell you. If you have a problem today - it will be worse next week and the week after. Set a date of a couple weeks - go cold turkey. If you are happy to go back to it on that date then keep going. If not - move on. Honestly, reading what you wrote I can say that you had the same *drug* problem I did but that donations are the positive reinforcement for your problem. Mine was renown, I liked that I was known and that *I* helped make peoples gaming experience great.

META: If shaderhacking can be considered a drug, then are we the drug dealers who give friends such as Losti a surge of dopamine by thanking them / sending donations for our own selfish pleasure, while his life gets destroyed? I don't think it would be fair to put 100% blame on an addict. ------------- Losti, please mate, for your own sanity, please consider putting a fair compensation price on your fixes. We appreciate you and others a great deal man, and it is sometimes true that we don't thank you guys enough. Talk is cheap. There is nothing "distasteful" about asking to be fairly compensated for your work. If you feel you don't deserve it, then you will at least agree that your wife certainly does...

I am very happy today!!!!!!!!!!!! I was able to show my wife what’s the matter of playing games in 3D.... Sounds a bit simple but it wasn’t because she was never able to see 3D....in any case. She was sitting in a cinema 3D movie and asks herself what’s so special here...We have found out that she isn’t able to see 3D (like approx 10% of the human mankind), I have tried every method around the world. 3D-Vision, Anaglyph, the 3D pictures from the Chinese market the ruler that have 3d pictures (80th generation should know this for sure)....she was never able to see it. She only pointed to one of the 2 pictures and tells me there are no 2 pictures or any 3D effect (especially 3D vision without glasses or anaglyph 3D) As a last try, even if this was really unlikely, I have shown her VR with oculus rift s and let her path through the setup....she managed it and said that his is cool and different. Today the show called "Let’s Dance" is on TV in Germany she really loves. I have asked her to join me within the advertising hiatus to show her a cool game "NV fun house", what she was doing...something annpoiyed because she always saied she cannot see 3D. As a result she was playing it for 20 minutes until the temperature was too high to carry the VR headset and missed some of the show, even if I have told her that the show is going on and she do not have to play further. But she WANTED TO!!! NOW: AFTER YEARS, she understands me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow that's great Losti! I'm really glad you're now able to share our passion with her! Might I suggest SuperHot in VR? It's very simple and very fun!

I do not think that I am able to inspire her for a long time but she will at least replace the ZUMBA sport with VR in the NV FunHouse ... some days.... And she is going to understand my enthusiasm for 3D :-) Thats the main point !!!

Similar dance sort of style once you get the hang of it, and an actual workout when you are trying. Beat Saber is the rough equivalent of playing Tennis. Here is a great link to VR games that are good for fitness. These are actually tested in the lab at SFSU, not just guessing. https://vrhealth.institute/portfolio/beat-saber/ I think Beat Saber deserves its reputation, and is the killer app for VR.

I had vr for a short time [$ and vision issues nowadays] but I thought that budget cuts was going to be the BIG killer app. Unfortunately it looks like they dropped the ball on its release. Again, cant speak for the final game but everyone who played the demo that came out year(s) before the actual game was solid to anyone who played it. You don't need to put any money into it. Just download the demo. I think its the most solid 20 min experience in VR. ------------------ If you want to show her something you did in VR from 3d vision. You can just record it like you normally do then use stereoscopic player then set to vr view mode. I havent tried it since DK1 though but I don't see why it doesnt work anymore. It might even be possible to stream it with a tiny bit of delay if you have two computers. One computer records it with 3d vision while other views file. SBS might be easier, couldnt say its been 6 years since DK1 and I messed withit.

I am both new and old to 3D Vision. I used what was then called the NV consumer driver that was OEM to my Z800 a few decades ago. I went with IZ3D, then Tridef after that for a while. I'm just getting back into the Nvidia 3D with my new build with a 1080ti. I built it to enjoy the last days of modern 3D game support. I also got a 3D vision ready projector, PJD6251 and an ASUS 3D vision monitor. I haven't got the monitor to work in 3D yet, waiting on some cords, but 3D Vision is wonderful with this projector. Not sure yet who is responsible for what fixes, I have and do use on occasion the fix manager and greatly appreciate everyone's contributions with that and for keeping 3D Vision operational for as long as possible. I will make a humble donation, but you guys really deserve statues. Thanks
