Because by feeding it 1080p side-by-side images, the display would output 120hz even if you'd lose half the horizontal resolution.
I'm thinking that it might still be a nice monitor until proper support is added to the drivers.
Do you guys know in what circumstances the display interpolates to 240hz? (was it worth advertising the monitor as 240hz?)
I am wondering if the 240hz thing is always there or if it is adjustable. I remember a couple years ago when tvs were advertising 720 hertz and it was an option that could be selected as either off, medium, or high.

Hello,
Thank you for your submission. I'm afraid the current Sony 3D monitors are not NVIDIA 3D Vision Ready certified and are not supported by NVIDIA 3D Vision or 3DTV Play software. There is currently no plan to add support for the Sony CECH-ZED1U.

I wonder if this violates the antitrust law/competition law/Sherman Act.

This display has ghosting up the wazoo when using 3d @ 60hz! I haven't had anything play at 240hz yet, but then I have the resolution at 1080p, so I assume you don't get 240hz at that resolution.

I'm thinking it's possible you will see 240hz if you use simulview. I'll try simulview in motorstorm and see if it shows up as 240hz
You are totally right about the ghosting. Everything that is far into the distance looks a much lower resolution with the 3D turned on. Honestly the 3D looks pretty terrible. My edimensional glasses from 7 years ago looked way better.

I took advantage of Best Buys $299 sale today but wow, I don't see why everyone is having so many issues. I guess I'm easy to please.
I'm using edited INF drivers I found and after I manually installed the monitor driver it sees the monitor as "Nvidia unsupported 3DTV (EDID override)".
Then I switched the resolution to 1 of the 2 choices I had (1280x720 at 60Hz and 1920x1080 24Hz)I then ran through all the various 3D display tests under Nvidia control Panel then went to 3dvisionlive.com. All the pics, videos and Youtube 3D videos(Youtube 3D only works under Firefox for me. work great.
And finally with "Nvidia 3d Play", I'm running all of my PC games with in 3D with no trouble. So what if I'm running in 720P. Whats the difference on a monitor this size? I'm still getting 60FPS on the games I'm playing. =)
I can post the text in the inf in a later post upon request if its ok.

raoh234, I also installed a custom INF, but games and YouTube and so forth are still not in 3D. The only thing that is - and looks perfect - are the nVidia control panel tests. Would you please post or PM me your INF, or at least the specific process you used? So far I'm just very confused as to why the console looks good and nothing else will run.

That sounds great to me. I bought one from Best Buy as well ($300!) and ran Invincible Tiger on the XBox 360 (I dont have a PS3) and I thought it was neat as hell. But I really would like to get some of my PC games running in 3d too. raoh234 I would be forever grateful if you could submit a short walk through for those of us that would like to get this working. BTW, the 3d looks great to me on the XBox, what is limiting this to not perform at 1080p like on the playstation? Drivers? Thanks!
Also, I think 300 dollars is a bargain for this display. 24" display with built in speakers, wonderful picture, high build quality, great contrast, not to mention 3D capable. Its just a very slick piece of hardware. Getting games to work for the PC is my only remaining issue. Would love to play Crysis, Borderlands, Mass Effect, Duke Nukem Forever, etc on this bad boy.

I would go ahead and post it, as its most likely the only way this display will work with 3D Vision/3DTV Play. Nvidia may not directly approve of this INF mod, but they might tacitly allow it as a non-official workaround. At the very least, it would allow a loophole for end-users to provide their own support for a non-supported product.

The build quality is high for sure, but in the overall landscape of 24" displays its really nothing special at that price point. The main disadvantages for any PC gamer is that there's clearly better options in terms of pure gaming/3D performance for not that much more money. There's a few 3D displays by Acer, Asus in the $300-$350 range that give true 120Hz input for 2D and 1080p @ 60Hz for 3D. If 3D isn't that important you have H-IPS models by Dell for ~$300, or much cheaper TN panels to choose from.

For anyone that has problems getting 3D to work with this monitor:
Make sure you update the Generic Monitor's drivers via Device Manger and choose, "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" then choose, " Have disk".
Then install 3DTV play and make sure the resolution of whatever game you play is at 1600x1080 24hz or 1280x720 60hz and that the mointor is at the same resolution as the game. Then while in game hit ctrl-T to enable 3D, if you don't have it on by defualt. Also, make sure the game is supported. Have fun!
BTW, is there anyway to lessen crosstalk without sacraficing depth or convergence??

OK, just did a little research and I understand now that the 1080p 24hz and 720p 60hz is just a limitation of HDMI 1.4 bandwidth. I also found that my GTX 460 by itself probably wont even push 1080p 60hz anyway. That said, I am still content with my purchase... just need to set er up like TreeDeeGhost explained... I will report back after I get it all figured out.

You can try reducing Contrast if there is a setting in the monitors OSD. This is a common fix for the other active shutter 3D LCDs out there, but ofc it will reduce brightness/contrast a bit as well.

Got it all working. Thanks for the help guys. Wasnt all that impressed with the 3d effect until I realized the default setting for the 3d effect was something like 20%. Cranked up to about 80%, and wow... just amazing. Tried both 1080p/24hz and 720p/60hz... works well in both but 720p/60hz is smooth as silk with max settings. Love how Borderlands looks now, just incredible... love this monitor. Only thing is the images are a bit dark, but I guess that is normal with this tech. The Nvidia test screen is a real trip...

Thank you for your submission. I'm afraid the current Sony 3D monitors are not NVIDIA 3D Vision Ready certified and are not supported by NVIDIA 3D Vision or 3DTV Play software. There is currently no plan to add support for the Sony CECH-ZED1U.

I took advantage of Best Buys $299 sale today but wow, I don't see why everyone is having so many issues. I guess I'm easy to please.

You can try reducing Contrast if there is a setting in the monitors OSD. This is a common fix for the other active shutter 3D LCDs out there, but ofc it will reduce brightness/contrast a bit as well.

I forgot to paste the .inf file that you have to use when you click "have disk". I assumed it was already pasted in this thread, but just in case here it is: http://blog.bagearon.com/downloads/NVIDIA-UN-3DTV.inf
