Xpand x102 glasses with DLP 3D projector What drivers? May work with Optoma Hd66/Pro350W
1 / 3
Does anybody have any experience with Xpand x102 glasses?
I wrote an email to xpand about these glasses and they said that they work on any DLP 3D TV or DLP 3D projector, with any 3D content (movies and games). But there was no information about the driver. I am quite sure that we will need some kind or drivers to give proper DLP 3D input to the projector.
Has anybody used these glasses?
good news- but how well do the iz3d drivers work compared to NVIDIA? and ouch on the price of those things- 750$$ for the emitter and glasses!
I have tried iZ3d drivers and I think they are comparable to Nvidia. You can also try for free with red/cyan glasses. Anaglyph mode is free for all users. For DLP checkerboard mode it is $49.99 but you can try for 30 days.
Xpand x102 costs $150 and no emitter is required. So you will end up spending $200 which is comparable to nvidia glasses. But the advantage is that you will have more freedom in terms of the hardware (TV or Projector). You can choose any 3D DLP ready TV or projector (like Optoma HD66/Pro350W). You will not have to worry about detection problem as in Nvidia driver. So many people are stuck with Cd v1.15 because of this display detection issue.
$750 .. which glasses and emitter are you talking about?

oh- i was looking at the 101 set- its more. thanks for clearing that up.
what do you mean when you say iz3d is not comparable to nvidia? which was better for you?
im holding out for a 1080p 3d projector. i cant wait for one of those!

Sorry for the typing mistake. I have edited my previous post. I meant to say that iZ3D drivers are comparable to Nvidia drivers. In fact i would say they are better because you will not be stuck with older versions of the driver because of the display detection issue. There are drawback too, iZ3D driver does not support DX10 and SLI yet. At least not officially. But they are working on it and will be available in the next driver update.
LG is releasing a 1080p projector (CF3D) in May 2010 but that is $10,000. I have not heard of any other model so far. You will have to wait long for full HD projector unless you can afford $10,000 projector.

I agree there is advantage of using IZ3D drivers over Nvidia drivers, because you also have the freedom of using XP, and either ATI or Nvidia GPU.
Plus, there are some games I heard only work with IZ3D but not Nvidia 3D Vision.
(and I think we might be able to use the old school Nvidia stereo 3D drivers with XpanD x102--> ie. the 3d drivers before the release of 3D Vision)
~I am planning on getting a XpanD x102 glasses to work with my Samsung 3D DLP TV soon.

It has been ages since X102 glasses has been out of stock. Xpand always keep saying that it will be available in few weeks (since January). I waited for sometime but still they are not in stock. So finally I bought Nvidia Glasses and I am happy with those. Especially for games, I think it would be better to have Nvidia 3D vision. Xpand x102 will work for movies but we need a driver for games. And iZ3D driver is still not ready to compete with Nvidia drivers. We will see many more options in future but right now Nvidia seems to be the best choice for gamers.

Xpand glasses are also not very practical
For example they are not rechargable you have to change batteries every once in a while (you end up paying for the batteries),
they are not very comfortable too
I think they are more cinema orientated than home use
I wrote an email to xpand about these glasses and they said that they work on any DLP 3D TV or DLP 3D projector, with any 3D content (movies and games). But there was no information about the driver. I am quite sure that we will need some kind or drivers to give proper DLP 3D input to the projector.
Has anybody used these glasses?
These glasses are out of stock at the moment but will be available by end of this month (thats what i was told in the email reply).

I agree with you but I assumed what he would have meant.
I would like to hear from someone who have used these glasses. How good they are? Ghosting or any other issues etc...
If these glasses work then we can ditch nvidia and buy these one and use with any available 3D DLP projector (Optoma Hd66 for example).
I wrote an email directly to xpand about these glasses. I will let you guys know if i will hear anything from them.
About the availability they have already confirmed that they will be available by end of this month.

Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)
Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)
Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)
23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)
Samsung 65D8000
For example they are not rechargable you have to change batteries every once in a while (you end up paying for the batteries),
they are not very comfortable too
I think they are more cinema orientated than home use
