Can't adjust Samsung monitor brightness in games (even when not in 3d mode)
I have noticed that in order to be able to adjust brightness in games (even if you turn off 3d vision) you have to uninstall the 3d vision drivers. Otherwise everytime a launch a game (using the Samsung 22" LCD) the monitor goes to blinding 100% brightness and 70% contrast. It then locks out the user controls for brightness. I can understand doing this in 3D mode. But when in normal non stereoscopic (ie turning off the option in the control panel) or playing a game that isn't compatable with the 3d vision (ie Sacred 2) it would be great to be able to adjust the monitor brightness.

Hi

In order for stereoscopic 3D to operate correctly, Samsung disables the brightness control and operates at 100%. The main reason for this is to allow maximum light to reach your glasses.

Correct, however what if I want to play sacred 2. It's not compatible with the glasses currently so I play it without the glasses. However, the monitor forces 100% brightness which makes the game unplayable (since I am not using the 3D glasses). If you have the 3d vision drivers installed all games (whether or not you have 3D Vision enabled) will be super ultra bright. It would be great that if you have 3d vision disabled then the monitor doesn't lock the brightness. Otherwise, this makes the monitor useless for me since I have a few games I play that are not compatable with 3D vision.

When you turn off 3D Visionm from the Control Panel, the brightness control should go back. Try toggling the switch in the control panel, not just the button on the IR emitter.

Nope..still locks the monitor settings even if I have 3D vision disabled from the control panel.

Try turning the refresh rate down below 120 Hz for now and see if that works. Otherwise, we will need to investigate it.

It works if it is disabled in the control panel, but why doesn't it work with just the button? It's not very practical to go into the CP each time I want to play a different game...

I have the same problem - if I disable 3d vision with the button, the display does not reset to normal brightness settings. Very annoying if I want a break from using the glasses.
My refresh rate is 100hz and the problem persists.

Nvidia lists sacred 2 as working "good" are you saying you have tried sacred 2 and it did not work? what 3d and nvidia drivers are you using? you said you are on the samsung monitor?

reason i ask is sacred 2 is my favorite game and i want to make sure it works....

I noticed that this original post is almost a year old, but I believe I have the answer. I just recently got the monitor and glasses and if you go to the OSD on the monitor you will see under Brightness and Contrast is "Magicbright". If it is set for Dynamic Contrast, then brightness will be locked @ 100% and contrast @ 75%. Set it for Custom and then you can have whatever values you want. In 3D operating mode brightness is cranked up automatically, but will go back to your normal settings when you get out of 3D. At least that's how it's working for me. I got a feeling this has already been figured out, though.

I'm having the same problem on an ASUS 3D ready monitor, with or without 3D enabled the screen is locked in 3D-Mode.

I can only adjust contrast on the menu where I try to adjust brightness, to save energy and my eyes.
