Help getting pc games to 3D with optoma HD66
I have a custom made pc running 2- nvidia 560 ti cards in SLI. the cpu is 6 core 3.4. the guts are all top notch.
I bought an Optoma HD66 projector. I am able to run PS3 and xbox games in 3D no problem. I am able to watch DirecTv and bluray movies in 3D no problem. The pc in 3D on the other hand is the issue-

I have the additional Optoma 3D-XL Converter Box for 3D Video and Gaming attached to the projector- all content providing units mentioned above run through the converter to the projector, including the pc. All of the HDMI cables are 1.4. I have only the projector (converter box) set up to the pc as a monitor- no other monitors connected. The projector runs at 1280x720x120hz. nvidia control panel recognizes the projector correctly. As a side note- I don't have the nvidia tv play or nvidia vision pro- I don't believe I need them for my set up as I use the DLP glasses that came with the converter box.

Initially I was unable to get the stereoscopic 3D test application from the nvidia control panel to run the test application (where the word nvidia rolls forward and backward on the screen while the logo rotates around) to work in 3D. This test app initially displayed in 2d only. I updated the driver to the newest beta (i think its 295.57 or something like that). After that, ran the test app and it appeared but with a message displayed in front of it stating that the resolutions must be set to either 1280/720/60hz or 1920/1080/24hz (or something close to that). So I backed out and set the test to run at 1280/720/60 and the test ran in 3D and the DLP glasses worked and everything. I also checked it at the higher 1920/1080/24hz and that also worked perfectly for the test app.

However, I have tried to play Skyrim, Crysis 2, Portal 2, Star Wars Old Republic- and none will even apparently try to run in 3D. I have changed all of the games resolutions to 1280/720 (although I haven't seen where the games specify a refresh rate). I have rebooted and tried the games again- no 3D, they all play in 2D smoothly and perfecly in ultra high graphics. I again try the test app on the nvidia control panel and it works perfectly right away. Back to the games- no 3D.

Please help- I am not familiar with "coding" or changing inf files or any of that kind of thing- I only know the basics of clicking boxes in windows- so if your recommendation is to try something where I have to change a code somewhere, please be detailed so I can follow it. Thank you- I'm so frustrated- I just want the projector to work in 3D so my wife doesnt harp on me that we spent this money for nothing! lol thanks again in advance.

Disconnect the optoma 3d xl. Connect straight from projector to pc.

but then I have to buy the nvidia emitter kit, correct?
I thought the point of having the converter in between the projector and the pc was so that the converter box can control the DLP glasses that came with it.
I have a laptop with a built in emitter and the glasses that came with it, but the built in emitter turns off when I plug the projector to the laptop hdmi, so i've been using the new pc instead of laptop.
I need an emitter now dont i? :(

I misunderstood and thought you had 3d vision. Basically you need 3d tv play/ 3d vision no matter what. If you want to use dlp link glasses you can use just 3d tv play. Or you can buy just the emitter(people sell them on ebay)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-14day-trial.html

Converter box is to make your hdmi 1.3 projector->1.4 compatible. So basically you can run 3d tv play(which you still need to buy(download trial),ps3, xbox 360.)

I think 3d tv play can work either with or without converter box though. Try both and let me know.

I will download the trial of 3DTV play tonight and reply once I test it.

When I looked at the site re: certified displays- the HD 66 is not one of the optoma projectors listed for 3DTV play. However I know it is nvidia certified as that is the sole reason I bought that model. I hope that wont be a problem. I also just purchased the 3D vision 2 kit to be sent to me in case I need that also.

Thanks for the help!

I went home at lunch and downloaded/installed the free trial of 3DTV play and I ran the hdmi direct from the projector to the pc.

I ran Crysis2 and the screen was split for 3D as you would expect but neither the dlp glasses that came with the projector/converter or the nvidia wireless glass that came with my other laptop work at this point. This is progress!!

I checked the projector menu to see if I could switch it back from dlp glasses to nvidia glasses (that option was there before) and the menu option for 3D was greyed out completely as if it was saying I didnt have the option to turn 3D on- which I assume is because the projector is no longer reading a signal from the converter. So now Im guessing I just have to wait til the emitter arrives- plug that into pc- and that will control all my nvidia glasses for use with this pc.

Part of my confusion before was that I thought I had 3D vision already because that is what is listed in the programs list in the start menu where you can 'enable' and 'disable' the 3D. But I'm guessing you don't truly have 3D vision if you don't have an emitter.

Ok try this. Plug in you optoma 3d xl. Connect it to projector and comp. When the screen is split for 3d. Enable dlp link on projector and Click the SBS option on the optoma. If this doesnt work I dunno.

Most people with hdmi 1.3 projectors get 3d vision kit. It is a lot better and less hassle free then 3d tv play.

3d vision is automatically installed with nvidia drivers. It is UNLOCKED with 3d tv play/3d vision emitter.

- didnt work, i should be receiving the emitter and 3d vision 2 glasses in a couple days, that will do it for sure- thanks for trying.

another weird thing started this weekend and I dont know why- not sure if its related to upgrading to the beta driver 295 or from installing the 3DTV play- but when I run Star Wars Old Republic now, there is a contstant bar along the left edge vertically with SLI written at the top and the bar grows and shrinks as if displaying the output or processing used on the SLI while playing- it doesnt seem to be an ingame item, I mean generated from the game. it looks like its created by the system. but it definitely wasn't there last week when I played- its annoying. any thoughts? thanks!
