make sure to disable auto keystone - 0, ensure 1:1 pixel mapping

An insult would be posting before reading.
I would of thought "settings" would include convergence but apparently not.
Brightness is no problem. BTW that link leaves me with more questions then answers.
All it tells me is there are others that think there is more to desired with using a
projector.
Will try the depth hack, won't help much with pop outs though :(

Those of you that have both.
Which do you prefer for playing games?
[/quote]
I'm wondering this as well.
@ Ducky two things you should try first
1) sitting closer, i got a 73" and I noticed the 3D effect is MUCH more noticeable when I get closer and closer to the set.
2)try Just Cause 2, the game has more pop then anything else I've seen
On projectors:
I was reading an article on tom's hardware, 1 part specifically caught my attention.
They said HDMI 1.4 should be the standard for 3D because its capable of transferring two full HD signals to your tv/projector at 60hz. My set (mitsubishi rear projection unit) doesn't support hdmi 1.4, the article stated that sets like mine have to display two signals at once, overlapping each other rather then two separate signals flashing the screen that the shutter lenses could properly take advantage of.
That made me wonder, would a plasma or a newer DLP have more pop? I think if anything those small lcd's like samsungs syncmaster have the most pop because you're only sitting a couple of feet away from the screen, but thats just a guess.

At a local Bennetts tech fair one of the traders were showcasing Avatar 3D on a massive screen (not sure if it was plasma or what) and the popout was awesome. I was about 3-4 m from the screen.
@ OP
Have you run the nVIdia 3D test thingy? The nVidia logo pops out nicely as a frame of reference.. Also what settings have you set 3D to? Try to max it as high as possible.

the screen size.
Tried the depth hack last night and it works great(not for pop outs though).
I'm sitting fairly close now really... I'm gana set it up in the hall way and stand really far back just to see what happens :S

A bigger screen+3d gives the feeling of being inside the game instead of watching it in an "aquarium", therefore imo 3d gains a lot more from big screens than 2d. My personal opinion though but it shouldn't vary too much. /cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Generally i use less separation when gaming on the projectors compared to the monitor to feel comfortable (less eyestrain). The immersion is nonethless tenfold better.
By adjusting convergence so that everything is in front of the screen literally kills the good experience though. There are popoutmoments in most games but generally the "real" popout moments where something literally flies through your head are rare.

Well for one thing Avatar is on a different level then anything else in 3D, cameron innovated a new way to film movies specifically for 3D. I saw it in 3D at the theaters, talk about whoa. Its what made me build a new computer for the sole purpose of 3D gaming. The way i see it, we're all the pioneers. This is 1st gen hardware we're using. Hopefully in the years to come we'll see gaming popout similar to Avatar the movie.

I have both, I like the lcd. The big screen is less res and less contrast, so it has downsides. For 3d, you dont just need a dim room like all projectors, you need darkness since 3d puts out half the light of 2d. So all the things you have heard about PJs needing dim or dark rooms, literally double that because 3d is half as bright when you switch into that mode. So you need darkness. If you live in a cave and arent into high res so much, then it is pretty good. Its a trade. I find you simply get used to the size. I think the added resolution of an lcd is really where its at.
Things dont pop out more really, its all to scale. If you scale the image up, it pops out more by measure, but it is the same to scale, so it has the same affect. You sit close to a monitor, further away from a screen, so its all relative. People think that things are going to jump out at you when the screen is big, no, its the same as the small screen, if it didnt pop out at all on the small screen, it wont on the big screen, its just all sized up exactly the same. Dont buy a pj thinking that you are going to see popup where your small screen isnt popping anything out. Both should be exactly the same. Just imagine sitting close to a 720p lcd and to the left is the same image projected on a wall. From your view, they are both the same size. The lcd is going to blow away the iq of the projected image. Its closer, but so what, the image is the same size to your viewpoint. If you want bigger, get close to either one and the image is bigger. It just goes down like that. Nothing magical happens. Now if they were 1080p projected in 3d super bright in 3d, then I would be starting to get really interested, but its not that.

There isn't a whole lot of pop out, even after adjusting settings.
Just wondering if there is more pop out on a monitor then using a projector.
At the moment i find more joy playing games on a 3 meter screen then turning
on the 3D :(
Those of you that have both.
Which do you prefer for playing games?

That made me wonder, would a plasma or a newer DLP have more pop? I think if anything those small lcd's like samsungs syncmaster have the most pop because you're only sitting a couple of feet away from the screen, but thats just a guess.
Those of you that have both.
Which do you prefer for playing games?
I'm wondering this as well.
@ Ducky two things you should try first
1) sitting closer, i got a 73" and I noticed the 3D effect is MUCH more noticeable when I get closer and closer to the set.
2)try Just Cause 2, the game has more pop then anything else I've seen
On projectors:
I was reading an article on tom's hardware, 1 part specifically caught my attention.

Thats what i'm thinking as well. And yes i have tried just cause 2. But the pop out is still minimal compared to
the screen size.
Tried the depth hack last night and it works great(not for pop outs though).
I'm sitting fairly close now really... I'm gana set it up in the hall way and stand really far back just to see what happens :S

What test thingy are we talking about? when you run the setup or w/e? i've done that. Will do the logo thing again
tonight since i only did it when i first got it and didn't know what to look for then.
I'm guessing that i was expecting too much from this that is why i'm disappointed
