Is 1280x720 the highest and only resolution to play in 3D with 3DTVs
I have read on the internet that when you setup your 3DTV with 3DVision to play games in 3D. The only resolution compatible is 1280x720, is that true?

Is it possible to play Full HD 3D?

Nope, is not true.

With 3Dtvplay you can achieve 1080p/24hz in Frame Packing, and with Tridef and IZ3D you can get 1080p/60hz in Side by Side also, that with Nvidia cards.

So no, you are no restricted to that resolution only.

Really?

Is is stated here in Page 13 of the Nvidia 3DTV Play Guide that

"3D TVs only support one resolution for 3D gaming: 1280x720."

http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO-98478.html

Thats because 1080p/24hz is not very confortable to play in most games, they just advise to use 1280x720/60hz instead, but is not he only output supported in 3Dtvplay.

So they advise 1080p for movies and 720p for gaming, but in fact both are avaliable for gaming purposes.

And as i said before you have drivers like Tridef or IZ3D that let you play in more modes like Side by Side, so you can safely bet that 3DTV's are not restricted to 1280x720p when playing games.

/w00twave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00twave:' /> Thanks so much for the reply, it really helps me out, but i am still unsure.

Are you quoting from your own experience? Have you tried Full HD 3DTV Play on a 3DTV before? Or are you speaking theoretically only? /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Also, the 3DTV I am planning to buy from LG is not listed in the compatible list, but a bigger model using the same 3D technology of the same series is listed. Will I be able to use 3DTV Play with it?

Another question is, what type of glasses do I need to view side by side 3D (the LG ones are passive polarization glasses, afaik.

Thank you. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Im telling you this by my own experience with Panasonic and Samsung plasmas, atleast till today you CAN play at 1080p/24hz with 3Dtvplay, that is 24fps, if the guide is telling you otherwise is just because Nvidia knows that 1080p/24hz is subpar for gaming purporses, if 3Dtvplay as a whole is subpar for gaming purporses is up to you.

About that LG tv i really cant help you out there because i dont have that tv.

Thanks alot for the reply. So which resolution do you use to play 3D games with? Is it 1080p/24Hz? I have read that you need at least 60Mhz for each eye. How is the performance? Is there any shortcoming at 1080/24Hz that I should know of? /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I usually play with Tridef driver at 1080p/60hz in Side by Side, mostly because i get much more depth compared to the others drivers, in some strategic games i use 3Dtvplay at 1080p/24hz.

The main shorcoming of 1080p/24hz is that your framerate is limited to 24.

Many thanks. Does that means with TriDef you don't need to buy 3DTV Play? /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

That's correct. Also for your passive 3d set, check to see if tridef supports passive, if not also look into iz3d. They also support side by side
