Assassin's Creed (1, 2, Brotherhood): Workaround for skybox problem
  4 / 4
I only had at about a dozen crashes when I played through the complete game. In my case the reason for a crash seemed to be the fact that I had marked and by this way removed the stars when I entered another area. When the texture that is marked isn't present in the new loaded area then uMod and the game tend to crash. So I deactivated the "save texture" function before entering a new area. Also cutscenes seem to be critical but I already had cutscene crashes before I used uMod.
Besides from that uMod is still beta...
I've read that some antivirus software may detect TexMod or uMod as "virus". Perhaps switching it off during gameplay helps.

With the release of patch 1.02 for ACR the skybox and shadow blob issues in ACR are solved.
The fog and dust still looks strange so I would recommend to use the fix made by Helix (see http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=217120&st=20 ).
Personally I prefer a clear view to the exaggerated "medieval smog". So I use my Dust_Occlusion.zip posted above that removes the dust but keeps the original sky textures. As the developers used one and the same cloud texture through the complete game I will also use my clear sky version from time to time to get some more variety regarding the weather conditions in Istanbul /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' />

Helix has made a fix for ACB that replaces shaders instead of textures and offers much better results:
