World of Warcraft issues when using 3D Vision
  1 / 8
Hi All,

Just a quick thread on this. If anyone is playing World of Warcraft and is experiencing slowdown or flickering, can you try disabling any in-game add-ons? We have found an issue with X-Perl UnitFrames that we know does cause flickering. http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/xperl.aspx

Let me know your results, thanks.

I have turned off all addons to try to figure out the issue....basically a TON of information can be found at the below threat on the WoW forums.
This person has opened a dialogue with Blizzard to try to address the issue.

The only way the FPS hits the normal expected rate is when you hide all the elements on the screen using the Alt+Z command, other then that its completely unplayable right now....

Although I hate to see anyone having these problems with WoW, I would welcome them at this point as I can't get 3D to work at all in WoW. I just received my bundle today, and after downloading and installing the latest CD and updating all the drivers I can, WoW refuses to enter 3D mode.. What am I doing wrong? I changed the video setting to 120 Hz then tried 110. I can check and uncheck the stereo box all day long and it makes no difference.. Is there some trick I dont' know about? The stereoscopic setup works fine and the demo is great. I haven't tried any other games but my sole purpose is WoW. The slider controls in the stereo settings were kinda low at default so I played with them also and still no effect. I appreciate any clues toward fixing the problem.. Andrew? Anyone? Thanks

Hi Rick

Let's start off with the basics:
- What driver version are you using? CD 1.05?
- Which version of WoW are you using? What patch?
- Have you been able to get the NVIDIA Test Stereoscopic 3D test app to work fine? (its from the NVIDIA Control Panel)
- Is the Emitter lighting up bright green when WoW starts?
- When WoW starts, do you get the in-game NVIDIA green settings in the bottom right hand corner of the screen?

Another one that I regularly forget : make sure you are running in full-screen mode!

Thanks Andrew. at first I wasn't using full screen, but I tried that and still doesnt' engage. I may have to change it in the settings to start in full screen, I'll try that. Left4Dead works fine. Pretty sure I'm using 1.05, I downloaded the latest I could find last night. I'll double check though. Another problem, I can't get the movies to play in 3D. The demo app and the stereoscopic test in the control panel works fine. I even downloaded the other player from the company that makes the Nvidia one and still no 3D in movies. Of course I have the latest WoW patch, no way to avoid that, since you can't even play after a patch till it updates. I'll let you know tonight if changing the settings to start in full screen mode later tonight. Thanks for the reply.

When your applications start and you are not getting 3D, try pressing the button on the front of the Emitter to see if it toggles 3D mode on.

HEY Andrew, you totally skipped over my post....is Nvidia acknowledging that this is an issue?

Thanks Andrew, that's what the problem was I just had to enter full screen mode. Maximized window mode is not the same thing.... Only problem I have now is with the 3D Experience wmv file that you open with the stereo video player. For some reason, it switches to half width everytime I go full screen with it. Then stays that way when I exit to window mode. I can go uncheck the half width in the setting, but that video always switches it back. So far the others play normally like Katana 3D. Thanks for the help!

Another question Andrew, you mentioned CD105, I'm using 104. Should I use 105? If so where do I get it, the link you provided is for 104. Thanks

I upgraded from 1.04 to 1.05 last night. I haven't seen any major changes, but here's a link to where you can grab 'em if you wish to try:

Driver Page

Just make sure the pulldowns are set to match your OS, and that the "Recommended/Beta:" one is set to "all". Do the search and it will return a couple of different versions of the driver, including the 1.05 beta.

The summary from the thread I listed in my previous post is as follows:
WoW FPS are so low its basically unplayable UNLESS you use the Alt+Z command (which hides all 2d elements off your UI). Basically rather then seeing a 50% performance hit, which is expected, players are seeing a 80-90% performance hit from enabling 3d in WoW.

The thread is a really good read however, very detailed with tons of information.
