There are fixes for Mass Effect 2 & 3 on the HelixModBlog, pretty sure they have dynamic crosshairs ... I haven't played them yet myself. The main problem with disabling crosshairs is that different game/engines will often require different means to disable them. Some are as simple as disabling it in the options menu, some require editing a text file or ini, others hex editing a file/EXE, other editing a texture, and yet others will require ripping, editing and repacking a texture ... and probably a few other methods I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. :)

Yah, it depends on the game. If you are lucky, they have a config file that allows customization. On some games, you'll need to enter the console command mode to modify it. Unforunately, there are very few that allow this. Some require a password to enable customization/cheats (such as +set thereisacow 1337 ) A few examples to google.......... cg_draw2D 0 - Turns HUD and crosshair off cg_drawCrosshair 0 - Turns crosshair off cg_crosshairAlpha <number> - Sets crosshair transparency (default is 1.0) seta g_gunViewStyle "0" seta g_crosshairCustomFile "gfx/guis/crosshairs/crosshair_machinegun.tga" seta g_crosshairCustom "0" seta g_crosshairColor "0 1 0 1" seta g_crosshairSize "32" seta g_showProjectilePct "0" seta g_showHud "1" seta ui_showGun "1" seta g_dynamicHudTime "10.0" seta g_useDynamicHud "0" seta g_hudType "0" seta g_crosshairLerp "0.5" seta g_crosshairType "0" seta g_crosshair "0" seta g_mpWeaponAngleScale "0" seta g_skipViewEffects "0" seta g_viewNodalZ "0" seta g_viewNodalX "0" seta g_gunZ "0" seta g_gunY "0" seta g_gunX "0" Some commands can be added via Steam's Launch Options https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1040-JWMT-2947 a + or - is placed in front of commands that you would place in Steam's Launcher or if you added them to the properties of a games launch application/exe. seta and set would be used in front of commands in a config file. But is by no means the norm, some config files do not require seta or set. It depends on the Game and the Engine. Some require cvar to be placed in front of the command +cvaradd g_fov 20 It'a also nice if the game/engine/config allows a bind command to turn off huds/crosshairs as desired. Such as ... bind [keyname, command] Here's a Doom 3 Tweak guide as an example http://www.tweakguides.com/Doom3_8.html EDIT: also look for reticle, if you are unable to find a crosshair setting to modify

This can also be useful
There's also a crosshair keybind feature that was implemented by jenson. It requires swapping out the nvstres.dll with a modified one, so it's probably only useful on older games. But you could bind the crosshair to the right mouse click. I know the community wrappers have right click convergenge, but I'm unsure about a crosshair bind. For some games you can find special config editors. Like for Mass Effect 3 I couldn't stand the fov So I downloaded ME3 Coalesced Utility From post #57 on this page http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2584112&page=4 Then I added ( Name="Period", Command="set SFXGame.SFXCameraMode FOV 100" ) as suggested in post #58 This allowed the FOV to be switched by using the period key on my keyboard once the game lauched

In some games you can enable the console and use command prompts to list/print/log variables. If the game allows you to list them, you can typically scroll thru them by using the page up/ page down keys. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Console Commands Typically the Command Console can be enabled by pressing the Console Key (the Default is the "¬" or "~" key, usually below Esc). Basic Commands that work in some games. Clear - Clears the console history. Help - Displays help on how to use the console (you can also use '?'). ListCmds - Lists all the commands available at the console. ListVars- Lists all the variables available at the console. Quit - Exits the game and returns to desktop. In some games, you might type listcvars/cvarlist or printcvars. In some games you'll get a response saying the command you entered is not supported in the retail version of the game.

Here's a post by Jensen on the Helixblog http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/04/mass-effect.html Talking about binding Nvidia's crosshair to the mouse button Ben SmithDecember 26, 2013 at 9:26 AM These are the settings I use in the dx9settings.ini [General] DefVSConst1 = 250 DefVSViewSizeConst = 254 OverrideMethod = 0 Preset1Key = 4 Preset2Key = 5 Preset3Key = 112 Preset4Key = 113 Preset5Key = 114 Preset6Key = 115 Preset7Key = 6 Preset8Key = 71 Preset9Key = 72 DefPreset = 1 It changes F5 to mouse button 4 (to see in game crosshair) it changes 9 to mouse button 5 (cinematics) it changes 0 to middle mouse button (remove in game crosshair) IMPORTANT: You can use a hex editor to remove the "laser sight on/off" message when using alc.exe The following DLL's are located in your windows/syswow64 folder (64bit) or windows/system32 (32bit) nvwgf2um.dll nvd3dum.dll Edit them using notepad++ and the hex editor plugin. When editing look for the keyword "laser sight" and you'll find it. Just use the spacebar to erase the line including the %s. at the end. This results in the "stereoscopic laser sight on/off" green message to go away, all that is left is rectangular black box but that is barely noticeable in game. I am also the author of alc.exe , please ask me any questions. Talking about binding Nvidia's crosshair to the mouse button

Ben SmithDecember 26, 2013 at 9:26 AM

These are the settings I use in the dx9settings.ini

[General]
DefVSConst1 = 250
DefVSViewSizeConst = 254
OverrideMethod = 0
Preset1Key = 4
Preset2Key = 5
Preset3Key = 112
Preset4Key = 113
Preset5Key = 114
Preset6Key = 115
Preset7Key = 6
Preset8Key = 71
Preset9Key = 72
DefPreset = 1

It changes F5 to mouse button 4 (to see in game crosshair)
it changes 9 to mouse button 5 (cinematics)
it changes 0 to middle mouse button (remove in game crosshair)

IMPORTANT:

You can use a hex editor to remove the "laser sight on/off" message when using alc.exe

The following DLL's are located in your windows/syswow64 folder (64bit) or windows/system32 (32bit)

nvwgf2um.dll
nvd3dum.dll

Edit them using notepad++ and the hex editor plugin.

When editing look for the keyword "laser sight" and you'll find it. Just use the spacebar to erase the line including the %s. at the end.

This results in the "stereoscopic laser sight on/off" green message to go away, all that is left is rectangular black box but that is barely noticeable in game.

I've never messed with hex editing. But there is a good tutorial to give you a general idea of what to do here... Hex editing UPK files (Unreal Package files) http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Hex_editing_UPK_files
