Crysis DX11 out. Does it allow proper 3D?

Oh Boy, I don't feel like reinstalling Crysis 2 Steam version, no way. It's funny that some users that have a 64bit system are able to play Crysis 2 + DX11 patch in 3D. Crytek says it's a known issue, that til Nvidia fixes this issue with a new driver, 3D should be broken for 64bit users and Crysis 2 DX11. I don't get it, maybe it's really Steam related, as all Steam users I came across have reported this 3D issue.

I'm still using driver 275.33 WHQL, you guys think If I update my drivers to 275.50 beta, 3D should work fine? Should I procede a clean install, as I'm updating a WHQL driver for a Beta driver?

I know Crysis fake 3D is really weak, but it's sure better than 2D, and I've already played Crysis 2 + DX11 and was amazed with the graphics enhancements and quality differences, I can imagine now how good this game will look in 3D.
And how much better it will look if some day Crytek decides to let Nvidia control the true S3D for Crysis 2 rather than this fake console 3D crap.

I'm not experiencing any crashes in Crysis 2 and Fear 3 though. Crysis 2 + DX11 suffers from some weird frame drop occasionaly, but most of the time it's solid 60-70fps with full settings maximized and DX11.

Crysis 2's 3d has nothing to do with nvidia. If your unhappy blame crytek, they are the ones who came up with what is a great option. But only as an option if your system couldn't handle rendering both images in the normal manner.

Don't redownload it. Coppy the files from the steam folder elsewhere. Then clear game data in steam for crysis 2. Copy them back and tell it to download. A minute later it will read as a having been downloaded. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

That's a good solution. Either way, it isn't a monumental task. I uninstalled/reinstalled in an hour. Not a big deal.

Finally, 3D is OK after I installed beta driver 275.50. I did a clean install just in case and it worked after I reboot my PC. Yes, I agree 3D now looks much better with DX11 effects and mainly due to high resolution textures.
Crysis 2 really looks amazing now, no one can complain about graphics in this game, it's a master piece. Best looking game ever!!!!!!!!!

You just can't compare Crysis 2 that was release in march with this new Crysis 2 + DX11 and high resolution textures pack, it's whole different game now. I'm loving playing this game again after 2 months and it's the 1st time I'm playing it in Veteran mode and it's really tough, oh mine!!!!! The lack of quick save feature, a more linear world, not many places to hide, checkpoint, no speed mode available, and a simple sprint already draws energy from the nano suit, just makes Crysis 2 a much more difficult game than the original Crysis and Warhead.

I'm really having fun playing this game, there's just so many ways to aproach the enemies, really fun. I really like the Predator sound when you enable cloak mode.

Please Crytek, let Nvidia control 3D and you guys are going to have the best looking game in the history of video games by far. I can't even imagine how this amazing looking game will look like in true stereo 3D (dual frames). Crytek gave this patch as a gift for the High End PC comunity, so now give us the ultimate present, real S3D. A lot of folks with GTX 580/480 or whoever SLI will be able to handle a 30-40% FPS drop. Crysis 2 is very playable at 30-40fps.

Let's hope for this present in upcoming patch 2.0. There's still a greyed out option in Crysis 2 in game 3D options, Stereo - Driver... I guess this means true S3D, so maybe one day Crytek will unlock the real 3D, otherwise why this option appears in menu????

nvidia paid a lot of money to crytek to develop dx11 patch, i can assure you that before releasing the patch they gave it to nvidia for testing, nvidia knew from the first time they installed the dx11 patch that it wasn't working properly in 3d, so they said "hey, nobody is going to really care about that so lets just tell them we are working on it LIKE WE DID WITH THE WITCHER **Andrew laughs and exits the room**

and dude stop defending them, we paid hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars on our hardware for a final working product, not for BETA TESTING

I've been playing the steam version on a 64bit system and everything works fine. It does seem to require the new 275.50 beta driver though. Make sure to try with the new driver before reinstalling or other (long) quick fixes.

This problem only indicates that the driver crashed, not why it crashed. You're right, there were issues with the drivers when Vista came out, but they are long gone. If the driver is crashing now, it's usually an indication of a hardware malfunction or a corrupted software installation. So your first guess about your system overheating might be dead on.

Wow, I just noticed that the distortion around the weapon models when held and the character's legs when looking down are no longer there. I am not sure what exactly fixed this but I am glad to see it gone nonetheless.

This problem seems to come and go for me, when vista came out i had an 8800GTX (awesome card!) and at first it was fine but then started to get those problems, it did eventually just go away, then upgraded to GTX285 and windows 7, problem came back, then upgraded to the GTX580 and it was all working fine (had it since feb) but has recently started up again. The latest theory ive read up on is to do with power. My PC is def not overheating so i know its not that, but i think i may need a more powerful PSU (or my PSU is going faulty) as literally nothing has changed on my PC since Sat night and it all started again Mon night. Also wondering if i have to many things plugged in that require power, so tonight i will experiment by unplugging as much as i can and see if it still does it.

The other thing mentioned was the voltage on the mobo not being high enough for the video card....not sure i wanna mess around with voltages though!

At least i can still play FEAR 3, i just have to force it to use DX9.

Back on topic....i have the NON steam version of crysis 2 and i installed the latest beta drivers to see if it helped with my above problem, never got around to testing the 3D though, will do that tonight as well.

Arioch, that's true, you mean the halo effect around the gun in 3D? If so, I've noticed it's gone and before DX11 patch, this was a ugly issue with Crytek fake 3D, but it's gone now. About the charactecers legs, I don't remember paying attention to that.

Crytek's fake 3D is better than playing in 2D, cause you get some source of depth and it's better than a flat world. I use depth maxed out and it compares to 30% depth of a true S3D effect (dual frames rendering), but only depth, off course a real S3D effect at 30% depth will overall look a lot better than Crytek fake 3D. If you scroll the depth wheel you can see there's really little changing in depth for Crysis 2 fake 3D, hard to notice, compared to real S3D.

I'm not going to use any of these system.cfg commands for improving S3D, as they usually don't do a thing and just increase depth a little bit and also mess up some parts of the scenario. I've tried some changes, and the pop out look horrible as it's a fake 3D effect, so that's why Crytek didn't give us pop out. Pop Out effects only look nice for real 3D, not fake 3D console crap and 2D-3D conversions.

Usually when I enable 3D for games like Batman, JC2, RE5, among others, there's a huge improvement in textures/graphics and everything looks very realistic, cause you have dual frames rendering and the 1080p resolution feels like its doubled, I love this in 3D. This definattely doesn't happen with Crytek fake 3D implementation, as it's only one frame rendering and simulation map 3D, so you just get a sense of depth, no graphics enhancements at all. At least Crysis 2 + DX11 already looks amazing, so in 3D it also looks really nice now due to high resolution textures, but it could look a whole lot better if Nvidia and Crytek give us the true S3D effect. I would be so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The idea that the two camera views being vastly superior to Crytek's implementation is blown so way out of proportion to be barely comprehensible. Besides a few graphic anomalies, my eyes can barely detect a difference in quality between a game like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Crysis 2. And I've observed the effect with others that don't know anything about what 3D rendering method that is being used. Some even concluded that Crysis 2 looked better.

Lest, anybody doubt, I've been doing the old Nvidia 3D since 2002, way before 3D Vision's inception.

The idea that Crysis 2 is "fake" 3D and vastly "inferior" quality is mere propaganda rather than scientific analysis of what the eyes perecieve (which is all that matters, rather than how it is being done.

Bump up the depth a lot (through config tweaks, beyond what you can do by default) and those artifacts become EXTREMELY noticeable. It is inferior in 3D quality, the only thing it has going for it is barely any performance hit. But it is absolutely inferior to true stereoscopic 3D.
