Coming from 3D Vision, what are your impressions of the Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive?

D-Man11, I'm not sure how I would do what he did mate. I am very new to this, and he seems to have a lot of experience in this. It is some kind of hack. Although he provides an explanation, he doesn't provide any kind of tutorial.
Interestingly, he says "VorpX doesn't create any FPS issues, unless it's producing the 3D, which here, it is not. But, the performance was sub-par for VR due to 3DVision. And I have a 980TI/i7 4790K. So I don't know if I did something wrong or if it was just that taxing :("
If it's unplayable as yet even on his 980 Ti which is double the performance of my 970 (I can confirm that SLi doesn't work in VR), I don't think I want to mess with it yet due to time constraints. Once I am familiar with VR and have Pascal, I will definitely be giving Primal a go!
Regarding 360 degree videos, you can indeed view them via the Virtual Desktop app.

@RageDemon
Wait. You just bought a DK2? I think you said you got it cheap.
If I were you I'd sell it while its still valuable and preorder a cv1 or vive.
You could literally sell a DK2 and buy a CV1 at least here in the states.
Just making sure you know right now they are selling for stupid prices. I really can't imagine them being worth much when people get CV1s.
----------------------------------
I also agree that Vorpx's depth buffer support is much better then 3D vision or Tridef.
Not even sure how but in games with hardware mouse it will replace with a software mouse which will be depth accurate since depth buffer. I only tried a few but it was pretty awesome.

That is interesting, regarding the mouse. I wonder how he does that;)
As for the depth buffer VorpX uses... I found it inferior in any game I tested on the DK2 for the lack of "depth". Then again is a bit hard to compare 1:1 what you see in a VR headset with what you see on a screen...so... might be subjective;))
@D-Man11: Thanks for the video:) I watched and a couple of things picked my interest there;)) Thanks again!

Another WOW this is amazing review...difficult to be take seriously.
After 2 days, im already out of content with Vive and i regret my purchase(i paid overprice, second hand). I have many hours on dk2, gear vr and cv1 prototype so first timers probably get more use out of it. Tech is cool, much like 3d vision, it wows you after honeymoon phase. Content is still everything and its very lackluster on both vive and oculus. Prefer 3d vision projector gaming to vr atm. More relaxing, much higher resolution, better content while still offering good scale and immersion. Not likely to change anytime soon. But like others have mentioned, its hard to compare the 2, they offer different kind of experiences.
Im not a fan of roomscale either. Very restricting when i can only walk couple of steps in each direction. Hate to think what its gonna do to a game design. Well, games already are cute simplistic little things, cant get any worse right? Not gonna write proper review cause i dont think i have anything to add over other impressions. Just dropped in to say i still prefer 3d vision gaming. Still so cool after all these years!

I have my Vive for a while now and I must say: roomscale + tracked controllers are really awesome!
I always thought I'd prefer sitting down while gaming, but walking around, teleporting is fantastic.
3D Vision and VR are 2 different things. If I had to choose I'd go VR. However, thank the Gods, I don't have to choose.
(So say we all).

Yup! I'd chose 3D Vision over VR any day:) VR in is current format is just...bah... I still fail to understand why People are HYPED about it!
Now I haven't tried the Vive (and will at some point) but I did use DK2 for about a week and after I was actually glad I returned it to my friend...
THE PIXEL DENSITY IS SIMPLY NOT THERE!!!! Now, Star VR COULD be a proper-ish VR experience due to the the HIGH res panels, but going from 3D Surround to Vive or Oculus is like...going back from a 1080p LCD to a 640x480 CRT resolution screen...
SURE! You move and you have head tracking and all the other COOL vr stuff (but I GET THAT IN EVERY DAY LIFE! without the VIDEO/PIXEL quality LOSS)... (and this is the OPTIMIST IN ME TALKING...imagine that...)
VR DEFINITELY HAS HUGE potential..but not in it's current format.... because my standards are pretty high (apparently)...
Some of you don't know or haven't experienced it: going from Monochrome CRT monitors to COLOUR ones (640x480 resolution that is right!) it was a BIG CHANGE! Now going from 640x480 to 1920x1080 (both colours monitors) was OMG)...
I want that OMG!!!! VR currently is OMG for 1hour and then I start SEEING THE damn pixels and my eye hurt... The image is just not that crisp!!!
So, nope! 3D Surround all the way currently!! (Does this mean I will not buy a Vive? Nope. I will buy one just to have "fun" from it, now that I know what to expect, but will I enjoy it as much as 3D Surround? NOPE... not until a PROPER "real-life" pixel density panels arrive - and I am not talking about 4K, but for a FOV of 110-120 you need more than what is currently offered)...
I will actually try a CV1 next week (from a friend) and see it for myself, but from what I read and saw I already know what it will look like:)
(Not talking about the sense there you "in-there" but about the QUALITY of reproducing the Virtual world which is translated in pixels ^_^)
