Which Dispaly Output for 3D Vsion on GTX 1080
My 1080s don't have any DVI outs, they only have Display Ports and an HDMI 2.0 port. I have recently wanted to play some games in 3D, but as there is no DVI output. Which display output should I use? The Display Port with an adapter? If that's the case do I need an active adapter or will a passive adapter work? Or will the HDMI out work? My monitor is an Acer GD235hz. I also have a View Sonic XG2401 monitor. It's a 144hz monitor, not meant for 3D Vision as it's marketed mainly as an AMD compatible monitor for Free Sync. I was curious if there's any way to get 3D Vision to work on that? It has HDMI and Display Port but no DVI. I don't know the HDMI version of either or these monitors. The Acer is pretty old and the View Sonic came out before HDMI 2.0.

Yes, for the Acer GD235hz you'd need an active adapter to convert it to Dual Link DVI for 1080P@120Hz.. AFAIK, you still need one that uses a USB port for power. Although it is possible that a newer version is out that does not require the additional USB connection and uses the power available in the DP 1.3/1.4 specifications. I have yet, to hear of anyone getting a monitor that supports freesync to work with 3D Vision, I'm not sure if they have a module somewhat Nvidia's G-Sync monitors do, that might conflict. Try doing an EDID override on it from another 3D Vision monitor that works via Display Port.

Thanks for the reply! I had my doubts if the Free Sync monitor would work. It is the nicer monitor in my opinion, so I'm gonna see what I can do with it once I get that adapter. What sucks is I used to have one for back when I had an Eyfinity setup with X Fire 5970s. My God, that setup was a nightmare. But I sold it with the 5970s. The adapter alone back then was $100, hopefully they've come down in price by now. Well... after some shopping I see now that the price has not come down at all. Damn, that adapter came out 7 years ago and it's still $100. I can't think of many pieces of hardware that hold value like that.
