I partly agree with Nutz. I think the complaint posts have gotten excessive (though sometimes warranted). However, it's hard to blame nVidia on all fronts when people are out-right buying displays that are known to have issues with 3D Vision. I say just stay away from those if you don't want the headache. Though I fully I agree it would be nice to not have to worry about that as it kept me from buying the PJ I really wanted (well that and unclear 3D Blu-Ray support over "older" HDMI devices).
As far as no profiles though... nVidia needs to step it up.
So yeah, I think nVidia needs to see these posts, but maybe the tone is a little "whiny" as suggested. Then again, they should expect that...

I don't think you can really blame people for being cranky. Samsung DLP users are stuck on drivers that came out in October and have been strung along this whole time. Every big new game that has come out recently has been pretty seriously flawed. They're stopped responding to support tickets on outstanding issues. It's in a pretty bad state right now. They're not being straight with us.

[quote name='ImNutz4NvSLI' post='1004391' date='Feb 19 2010, 10:18 AM']You guys really have to calm down.
Seriously, I mean I swear, some of you really sound like a bunch of whining babies.
First of all, as said, this is an Nvidia forum and they have a business to run, to come in here and knock Nvidia and then say you are going to sell your NV stuff to get ATI stuff, that's just childish. The grass is always greener, huh?
How can you get so excited about the possibility of ATI having some form of 3D? They have terrible driver support and NO experience with 3D whatsoever.
Nvidia continues to push the envelope with their technologies, refusing to simply rehash old technology into utilizing DX11. 3D vision by Nvidia is some of the best 3D I have ever seen, and I have seen quite a few solutions that don't hold a flame to Nvidias 3D. You also have to keep in mind that the technology is failrly new as far as implementing it into NV's drivers and creating profiles for the newer games is just another rung in the ladder of the things NV needs to keep on top of.
NV makes no secret of what displays are compatible and yet people bitch and moan when they spend a ton of money on a display that is cleary not supported (even if you think it should be based on specs) You guys need to just settle down and let the technology evolve and mature.
Am I totally absent minded about some of the issues with 3DVision, not at all, I am a retailer of all NV products and 3DVision is just as hot at my shop as it is in these forums, but when I sell a kit I make it very clear what can and can't be done, and what to expect and what not to expect. Some people go with it, and some simply wait till it matures a bit, no big deal. It's all about proper information and researching.
Now, think of everything NV has to keep track of in their drivers alone.
They have to write drivers that support multiple OS's, a plethora of GPU's spanning 10+ years that work in SLI on multiple chipsets, updating multiple game profiles, plus network/sata/raid support and the list goes on and on.
All I am saying is take it easy, getting mad in HERE isn't going to solve anything, these are user-to-user forums not "BitchAndMoanAtNV.com"
Lastly, have some respect for the moderators, they are not paid by Nvidia and plenty of people dedicate their precious time (all time is precious, life is short) to help people that, for the most part, refuse to research the products in question BEFORE they buy. Then their own ignorance turns into Nvidia bashing, because lord knows their own actions arn't to blame, oh no, they all need someone else to blame..
This isn't in response to anyone in particular, just my observations of the forum since the merge. I really liked it when SLI zone was it's own entity, people where a little more dignified, professionlal and it tended to have more of an "elite," certainly more knowledgable and respectful user base.
Most of you long-timers in here know what I am talking about..
Everyone please just lighten up..

So you are happy with being told BY NVIDIA a game will fully support 3d Vision, so you preorder it, only to find out it just has a useless option in the menu and doesn’t actually work correctly? You are happy with having to wait for months after a game is release for a simple profile so you can enjoy 3D coupled with the complete lack of user created profiles (nVidia give us one or the other if you won’t support the community let the community support itself … this has been proven to work well if the community is motivated)? You are happy with having to run drivers that successfully lock out certain levels of customization that were previously there (loss of +100% depth anyone?) You are happy with the silence that has come from nVidia over the past months as to issues that need fixes? You are happy with the being fed unstable driver after unstable driver (nVidia’s driver quality has left a lot to be desired since 182.50)? Maybe you are happy with this kind of thing. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know most people wouldn’t be.
It is up to the company to be honest to its customers and to provide proper support. Now you say you tell people who buy 3D Vision from you up front what to expect. That’s commendable. nVidia on the other hand isn’t. They are just shelling units at this point. You say it is up to the people to research the product. To an extent that is true and I totally agree with you on the whole issue with people buying unsupported screens, but that is also cause nVidia tells you what screens are supported. But what was it … just Wednesday I got a nVidia newsletter and in it was a section talking up how great BioShock 2 was in 3d. Hell, a whole week earlier they said on these boards themselves that it wasn’t right and would be fixed in a patch. /FACEPALM
I don’t think “everything nVidia has to keep track of†is at all an acceptable excuse for this nonsense. Last time I checked I paid for all of my nVidia products. This isn’t a non-profit organization. This isn’t homebrewed equipment and software supported by some people as a hobby. This is a big business and their products come at a premium price. Point blank period. If I am paying them money for it they better support it or yes I will be mad.
And the idea that we shouldn’t complain here is just absurd for multiple reasons. First, if no one complains here how will nVidia know of the problems that the community wants solved first? Certainly not from 3rd party independent forums. They seems to be barely paying attention to us here on their own boards as it is. Second, if no one complains here, it directly impacts the ability for a consumer to go and find out the truth about the product and its support; which you yourself say is the consumers resposibility. If someone is researching nVidia 3D vision and is totally new to it they, 9 times out of 10, will end up on THESE forums after they don’t find their answers on the 3D Vision website. This is nVidia’s official 3D Vision forum, correct?
I see nothing wrong with people proclaiming they are planning on jumping from team green. I don’t plan on it, but I can understand it, and even more I hope it sets off some alarms in the minds at nVidia that they need to step it up or this trend will grow. You have to think for every pissed off person in here saying they are moving to ATI … there are many more who are just going to do it and not vocalize it.
I could keep going but I have made my point. Chastising fellow users cause they are upset and vocalzing it here due to nVidia’s poor support and lack of honesty on many issues is just as childish as you seem to feel these people are.
You say you run a business and sell nVidia products. If a customer comes to you and is upset about their product do you try and make it right, or do you brush them off to the side and ignore them? I certainly hope it’s not the latter.

I can only imagine the aggravation for folks that spent money on DLPs and they used to work fine, but now do not. In the case of newer displays that are coming out and have never been supported, it's kinda hard to buy it then blame nVidia for it not working right. I wish they would work and I would be aggravated too if they didn't, but I would also expect the issues right off the bat.

Did nVidia ever explain why they jerked support from displays that previously worked? I have read, from other users so there is an obvious grain of salt (then again I take what we do here from nVidia with a grain aswell), that it had to do with nVidia now requiring display manufacturers to pay to have their product licensed and approved for 3D Vision. I hope that isn’t the case … it just doesn’t bode well … especially if a competitor comes out with something that provides a much more open and malleable platform to run 3D off of.

Andrew said they didn't understand why it wasn't working as their test DLPs were detecting fine. He then got some of the forum members to help troubleshoot and he believed they found a solution, but to my knowledge, the update has yet to come.

If you ask me, the problem with 3d Vision support is that 3d Vision isn't marketed/licensed/supported through nvidia's usual reseller partners, but through nvidia itself which simply isn't set up (or interested?) in providing good customer support. Generally "Geforce" product support comes through the likes of EVGA, Asus, XFX, etc. But with them not in the 3d Vision game, there's just nobody to provide reasonable support and nvidia has not stepped up. The best we can hope for is that maybe there might be a fix or a new profile in the next driver release, IF that driver release is even ported to a 3d Vision package. It's almost like buying a Honda direct from the factory -- where do you go when you need a tune-up?
That said, overall I'm reasonably happy with 3d Vision, despite some glaring imperfections. But if nvidia wants to stay on top of the stereoscopic game, this would be a good time for them to re-evaluate their marketing strategy and customer support because there's about to be a lot of competition and if even the faithful early-adopters on this forum are dissatisfied that doesn't bode well for them when there are new options.

You guys need to calm Down.... Things will get fixed in there own time. At least they are still working at putting new drivers together still. Think about all the old hardware they just stopped supporting (old 3d technology). It takes a long time to put new drivers together. Andrew said as soon as Bioshock 2's official patch comes out, they will release new drivers that will fix most issues (including Samsung Dlp).
I have confirmation (evga employee) that the 480 gtx is having serious heat problems. I think they are putting all of there recources into fixing that problem right now. The green team always pulls through!
Btw, of course they pulled that thread! That talk could lead to people buying Ati hardware. This is a NVIDIA site, not a generic 3d site!

I hope that’s the case and I hope it comes soon. Granted I have a fully supported display (AW2310), but if they fix this for these people more people will feel satisfied with their purchase. What’s more hopefully having more supported displays will draw more users to nVidia’s 3D Vision, give us more of a voice, and have us provide a larger percentage of the money in their pocket. Then, maybe they will up the resources they spend supporting 3D Vision.
I honestly feel one of the biggest reasons we are seeing a lack of support at the moment is the push to get the Fermi out there. They are spending their resources there, which is understandable, but it still does not do anything for my lack of satisfaction with recent support.
Where others are fed up and proclaiming they are leaving team green I still see a shining ray of light as a sign nVidia will come back to us and get 3D Vision back on track. The ray of light would be their new “3D Vision Surround†… if they are going to be pushing a new level of 3D Vision with their new cards … I certainly hope they will get 3D as it is back on track.
If you think the current user backlash is bad … hahaha just imagine how bad it will be if people go out buy new GPUs and THREE new 120hz monitors (running probably anywhere from 350-500 per screen) and a 3D Vision kit and not have it work right and not get decent support.

Unfortunately that theory doesn't hold water as there was no 3d Vision support to speak of long before Fermi became a pressing issue. In the absolute BEST of times, we'll get a 3d Vision "cd" update a few days/weeks after the WHQL GeForce driver update, and if we're really lucky Andrew might stop by once every few months to answer a question or two. As much as I love stereoscopic 3d (for which 3dV is currently the only practical solution for me), this is not an acceptable level of support for a premium product in a soon-to-be crowded market.
Besides, you wouldn't expect Toyota Camry drivers to accept that "Toyota is busy with the Prius problems, they don't have time to support the Camry" would you? Why would that excuse be valid here?

Well dang they have been lacking support for longer than I thought. Sucks to hear that. Maybe the debut 3D Vision Surround with the Fermis could bring support back? And I agree on the Toyota analogy. I didn’t intend for that post to read as me making excuses for nVidia as if it is okay. Just was an idea I had as to maybe why.

So yeah, I think nVidia needs to see these posts, but maybe the tone is a little "whiny" as suggested. Then again, they should expect that...

Seriously, I mean I swear, some of you really sound like a bunch of whining babies.

I understand that and don’t blame nVidia. I really only took exception to the guy calling the people making those statements “babies†as if their voice shouldn’t be heard by nVidia.
Locking and deleting posts is one thing. At least you know they still read the post and are aware of the storm brewing. If they started banning users for that kind of stuff then I would blame nVidia … and I do blame nVidia for their lack of support over the past few months. I think I know the reason, but it isn’t making my or anyone else’s 3D experience better in a timely fashion.
