Am I entitled to a refund? For the Samsung 2233
Need some advice please.
I purchased this samsung monitor along with glasses on the 21st of Dec09 from an e-tailer. After 2-3 weeks usage, I've come to terms with the fact that this current gen of LCD monitors is not fit for 3d due to the significant ghosting issue.

What are my rights?
Am I entiltled to a refund on this monitor so I can purchase a better model when they are due? Based ofc on the fact that this ghosting issue is causing me headaches?

What if the e-tailer refuses to refund me?

Any advise welcome.

Thx

lol gotta love customers.. (speaking from a retail standpoint)

it's just .. some people come up with the strangest excuses for things..

you know, i fix computers for a living and 99% of the time when some one
brings their machine in it just "turned on and was like that" "i didn't do anything etc".. lol

of course. ;) right?

anyway, point being you probably won't get a refund. sorry for the bluntness, but
you should have done some research or some testing before splurging on a purchase for yourself.

maybe you could sell it on ebay or something ??

Edit: maybe it's just you, i own 3 2233's and have almost 0 ghosting problems.

Oh yeah I love your reply. The monitor is stated as GEFORCE 3D VISION READY. No mention of ghosting anywhere. I'm sorry but if you do a little "digging" you will find plenty of people with this "imaginary" ghosting issue I have.

I think either your ignorant to the ghosting or you personally have 3 Samusung monitors that somehow have different "tech" to everybody else.

And as a matter of fact, I know plenty about computers. I've built systems you could only dream about. But let's not get into e-penis' I just want a display that works as wait for it..."advertised!"

Oh just for the record...Nvidia themselves have stated that these displays are in fact limited by their very design and thus Nvidia can't correct the ghosting issue. Maybe you'll need to replace all 3 of your "excellent" displays in the near future eh?

Dunno what country you're in, but in the EU if you buy something online without seeing it, you can return it within a limited period. Can't remember the details but google 'distance selling regulations' for more info. Dunno if you have similar laws where you live though.

Thanks fish I'm in the UK. Although I see what Dreams was talking about, I think he failed to realise that the device didn't advertise free migraines from a display that doesn't offer a 3d image for 40% of the screen. Gotta love asumptions - from a consumer point of view ofc.

Uk here too. Just been looking up the distance selling regulations and you need to inform the retailer you wish to return something within 7 working days, so it's probably too late for that now. They may still let you return it and charge you a restocking fee. Of course the sale of goods acts 1979 states something must be fit for purpose and free of defects, so you could argue the top of screen ghosting is a defect and ask for a refund or replacement. It's worth a try.

Otherwise... ebay.

i feel for you David L, btw i'm a David L to so nice name man :D

yeah they don't advertise anywhere that the monitor only works 80%, i'm getting ghosting about 20% of the top image. i love these people that, just because supposidly they don't have a problem, you're at fault.

now let me think, what could i have done differently, followed the 1st grade proof driver install, yeah i clicked next, then i clicked next again, then i hit yes to reboot, could i have messed that up??? UMMMMMM

after that i followed the on screen instructions, am i using an lcd monitor? yes, bam my monitor came right up, weird. then said turn on the button on the emitter, turned right on, strange. after that i put on the glasses and saw 2 different images for each eye, crazy enough, the instruction's said i would, things are getting spooky. after all that was done it said i was finished. i bet i totally messed up that install. played my games and they worked in 3d cool, but wait, the top part of the screen is all double vision and the bottom 80% is awesome. man what did i do wrong, i had so many options and chances to get this right, man i'm a failure :(

seriously though, this pisses me off to no end. i can't believe they sell this the way it is. either you turn the depth all the way down to eliminate the ghosting and turn the convergence as high as you can handle and still only have half of what the product can offer. or you settle for the BS ghosting at the top of the screen and try not to notice every second you play. any small time company would be out of business with a flaw like this. completely disgusted they sold me this knowing damn well it doesn't work 100%. sucks that we now have to pay out of pocket, even though we spent a nice penny on this pos, to upgrade to a 100% working monitor, man the acer lcd can't come out soon enough

Njracer :)

thx for the support guys. And yeah your right. At no point does this product stipulate that over 20% of the screen is not in 3D. No way should this product be sold as a 3D display. I can't believe that samsung saw fit to release it on this current state with no way of even possible a firmware update to alter the way in which the screen refreshes.

I will try and get my money back. If not I'll sell this pos screen and buy the acer as everyone is advising. Waiting for feedback on here from peeps who will have bought it and given it a 100% recommendation.

I could put up with it ofc, but why should I?
I'm pretty sure no one here or dreams would go and buy a tv from a store, take it home to find 20% of the screen is garbled.

as i understand, teh cause of the problem is vertical refreshing. i doubt anyone can offer something excellent in 3d view quailty without base change of LCD monitors standart of working. IMHO
