I recently installed Windows 8.1, since I had a copy laying around.
The biggest issue that I ran into so far, was not being able to fully install and launch Origin.
I messed with this for two days and tried every solution that I could find on the internet and EA forums/help. I was about to give up when I finally came across the solution.
The problem was that I could not install vcredist_x64_vs2015 or vcredist_x86_vs2015, I would get a 0x80240017 - unspecified error every time.
I had all of the roll up and security updates installed but still I could not update the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio past 2013.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling every previous installation of redistributables, as well as updating Net Framework. Still no dice.

I TRIED EVERYTHING THAT PEOPLE HAVE SUGGESTED... AND IT DIDN'T WORK.
UNINSTALL THE 2015 VERSIONS AND THEN INSTALL THIS...
Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu
ATTEMPT THE INSTALL AGAIN...
THIS WORKED FOR ME [/quote]

The shitty thing, is that this should have been in a rollup. Or it should have come up in a search for updates in Windows built in Utility.
Anyhow, if you have this problem I hope that this thread saves some time and frustration for you.
Just go to this page, select download and then on the next page check the box for Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu 690.8 MB

After doing this, I can now download games from Origin on my Windows 8.1 install.
