There are aliens? Didn't realise, got into combat for the first time, 5 hours later I gave up and haven't reloaded since. I did some reading though so I think I'm prepared now, don't think for a second you're gonna be dogfighting like star wars, get ready for the bab5 combat experience.

You do get used to it. After the first guild mission involving combat I sucked so bad I went to the forums! I went back to it and could do it. I guess it was because when I went back to it it wasn't completely new to me so I could see what was happening more. The three fighter fly in tight formation so I kept to the outside and just targeted that one. The first time I went amongst them hense the ownage. I never use countermeasures or missles so I swapped the hot points for equipment! Your good with class 3 everything, awesome with class 4s for that mission. I have a 360 controller. I have red and green button set up for beam and partical respectively. Use alot of afterburner (press left thumbstick) and relax. Try not to get too concerned that your ship is getting buffered about. Those weapons do little harm to shields. Watch for missile. Use the particle weapon to take them out. You don't need to target them as the particle weapons assume they're a primary target which they are. The large arrows that apear on the gun sight point to the missiles (though they are mirrored on the beta!). There is a little bar in the middle of the arrow which gets shorter the closer they are. Yellow is too far out to shoot down. Red is when they are close. Try to keep your speed ABOVE 1800 as missiles can't fly that fast. ;)

Great to hear they are working on a patch, shows what a little communication and interest on their forums can do with indie developers especially. Let us know when the patch comes out. Slightly off topic, wonder if there would be a relatively simple way to get a group of 3d vision fans willing to post on game dev forums together so that requests for 3d support could be a more concerted effort. Then instead of 2-3 people by chance coming together to post on a game forum asking for 3d support it could be 20-30. Not everyone would be interested in every game type but I for one would be willing to request 3d support on a forum for any game with the overall goal of keeping 3d support in the dev's minds. People in the group could request a game to hit up for 3d support and we'd all go in and make ourselves heard that way. The quality of these indie games has really gone up recently and I'm sure they'll be looking for any niche markets they can find to appeal to. For example, here's another space shooter I just found out about that could be great with a few simple changes. http://www.skyjackergame.com/ It's still in development but check out the playable demo. No cockpit, just a hud but the compound object destruction of asteroids and ships makes for great 3d as you blast off a piece of a ship or asteroid and fly though the debris. You can crank up the convergence to push the hud in and have stuff flying out of the screen at you which looks pretty cool. There are 3 missions to try, the first has the least problems while the other 2 have more noticeable issues with background nebulae and planets. Check it out anyway.

Basically my fighting technique came down to jousting with them, head on runs once they had moved into an attack angle themselves, turn of IDS and coast in, turn as they bank around, kick IDS back in and keep shooting until they are out of range, repeat. No ship upgrades except for a lvl 2 shield battery and a stage 3 particle cannon I got from a merc guild stash. I hated the next stage, landing on Olympus Delta and it's fucking storm activity, frikken turbulence from the stratosphere down to below the cloud layer kicking me off course constantly, and it was on the dark side of the planet at the time. I did the escort the cap ship mission and they told me to do some ship upgrades for the next stage. And then I did some dogfighting around a planetary ring. The planetary rings are so sweet.

I'm encouraged by what we are seeing the dev do for this game after just a few forum posts so hope to see more of that. Hopefully they will get the idea that most 3d users: 1. have money for 3d gear = have money to buy games 2. will buy and try games with near perfect 3d support even when they are game types they don't normally play otherwise. (it's the only reason I buy most single player games now) 3. will spread the news about games that have great 3d support. = money in the bank to developers if they put the time in to support stereoscopic 3d. Just sayin... I guarantee when this dev finishes patching in native 3d support he'll get a bunch more sales from us talking it up here and spreading the word on other 3d enthusiast sites. It's great as is especially if you use the tweaks andysonofbob posted so looking forward to the final patch and I'll happily spread the word some more.
I have a 360 controller
Now I definitely have to find time to try it, hopefully they're updating the demo as well, I saw something in one of the videos on YouTube that made it seem like one of those games that uses too many keys for it's own good. I just assumed it wouldn't work with a controller. By the time I get to play I usually have the lights off and can't even see my wireless keyboard.

In single player the trick is to make sure your speed stays above 1800 (top speed of missiles); not so easy against human players in multiplayer aparently. When I do need CMs for missile defence against large numbers of AI, I have put CMs on the space bar. Because pressing thumbstick is the afterburner, I am only missing 1 of the 3 axis (roll). So, even whilst spamming 'space' for CMs (a key I can hit blind), I pretty much have full directional control of my ship for evasive action. The only time I use my keyboard is for logistic stuff.

Evochron Legacy was released today. Lots of new and improved features. http://store.steampowered.com/app/398170/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hW1cUDArkg January 18th, 2016 Evochron Legacy is now available! Thank you for your support and patience. I hope you enjoy the game and look forward to hearing of the adventures players have in the new game. It's been a long 5 years getting this project completed and an incredibly difficult challenge for me personally. Much of the history of the game's development and design goals are available on the development page. http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegacy/development.htm The customizing kit is available is the downloads section and it is now online as a website you can read. Sample files are available as a download link from the website. If you currently own Evochron Mercenary and purchased the game directly, you may qualify for a 40% discount on the new game. Check out the order page for details. If you purchased the game on Steam and currently have it in your library, you should also see a 40% discount offer available to you as well.
