Anyone else have texture pop in on the left and right side of the screen? I've got a 480gtx
I started noticing something strange today.
I've been playing a bunch of games (assassins creed 2, bioshock 2, fallout 3, borderlands, etc) and all these games when in 3D mode have textures poping in from the left and right side of the screen! It's only the a very small portion of the screen on either side that does this. Top and bottom have no texture pop in.
I've got 2 MSI gtx 480s in sli and Im running the latest drivers and I've got the Acer 24" monitor. The texture pop in happens with SLI or without SLI (so it's not an SLI problem) With 3D turned off there is no texture pop in.
The thing I noticed is that with 3D set to a lower depth I do not get pop in. When I increase the depth to anything over half, the textures pop in on the sides. When I increase depth I do notice that Im seeing more to the left and the right.
Can anyone else try this little test for me. Start any game and rotate the screen VERY SLOWLY left or right. Now at the very edges of the screen do you notice any textures poping in and out. (example, lamp post in Borderlands is there and then it's not when I turn left or right) This is bugging the hell out of me and Im wondering if i just never noticed it before. I used to have the gtx 275 but I don't remember seeing the problem.

Yeah I get the same thing although I just learned to ignore it. Never knew what the issue with it is so I am intrested to find out too if there is some reason behind it.

Why do I always have to find every little problem with everything. I have scanlines that are visible, I get the ghosting on the top and bottom, pop out to the left and right, but I still love 3D.
I did some more tests. This time I used Just Cause 2. This game it's very easy to see the pop in because of all the small shrubs everywhere. I noticed that when I lowered the depth to about 40%, the problem was gone.
You can clearly see by toggling 3D on or off with the button on the emmiter that when you are in 3D mode with high depth you can see more to the right and left then when 3D is off (try it) Now I think that the game doesn't expect you to see that much to the right and left so it does not render certain textures and they shouldn't be visible anyway, but because of 3D we are seeing things the engine has not rendered. This should be easily solved by Nvidia. Just crop the screen so that even when in 3D mode the sides are not visible.
I guess I could just use some electrical tape and cover the sides of the screen and problem solved.

I just ignore that stuff and it ceases to bug me, but not everyone can put it out of their minds so easily, so I understand your issues. Try CTRL f11.

I guess this has to do with the way how 3D engines are programmed. Normally the engines starts to draw the objects just before they get visible on the screen (still offscreen). But when a game runs in stereoscopic mode there are 2 cameras between those the screen is switched for each frame, do to this viewport gets larger and you notice the popping in because the borders which are considered offscreen are now onscreen. This problem should not appear on games which are optimized for stereoscopic rendering.
Hope this makes sense. :) English is not my first language.

So everyone is seeing the pop in? I was scared I had some sort of defective setup. BTW. Assassins Creed 2 is amazing in 3D, but that game has textures poping in right in front of you, from the sides (3d vision) I wish they would better optimize these games on the PC. THere is no reason for so much pop in when we have so much more video memory. Everyone of those textures for the entire level could be loaded into the memory on the graphics card alone! They are really getting lazy with these ports.
Remember the good old days when consoles got PC ports, and not the other way around?

Objects appearing in the "frustum" area of the screen (not sure i'm using that word right) is one of the most prevalent problems I see in stereoscopic games. Many 3D ready games even have this issue it seems.

That is correct. We work with most game devs to fix it. They usually get it right for single screen, sometimes it shows up more in Surround.

Yes getting that . Truly hurting my eyes . We need a option to fix the sides when using 3D at 100% depth ! even if I lose some of the screen . Unless I use tape like one person already suggested O.o

Go into the nvidia control panel and activate the advanced 3d settings. There will be a cycle frustrum hot key or something like that there. Just go into the game and cycle though the presets. Sometimes it will shrink the image a litle bit, sometimes it will stretch it out on the sides but it will fix the pop in.

I found that helps reduce that amount of pop-in/jagged boxes.
