Burnout Paradise error - High VBI failed to set...
I have another puzzling one. I installed the beta driver cd 1.05 and installed the Burnout Paradise demo version which was a 2+gb download. The game ran wonderfully and I played it until the demo time expired. I ordered the game from an online retailer and it arrived yesterday. In the demo version there is a place to enter a license key. I figured I would just enter the license key and unlock the full game. Well when I launched the game to license it I received the following message in red lettering across the bottom of the screen. "Warning - high VBI failed to set. Stereoscopic 3D is temporarily disabled." I cannot get the game back into 3d. I keep getting that error message. I was able to license it and I can play in 2D. Everytime I turn 3D on I get the error.
The only change I made to the system from the last time it worked was installing a Microsoft wireless receiver (usb) which is used for connecting an Xbox 360 controller to the computer. Vista was able to recognize it and install the drivers without me using the cd that came with it. I'm not sure how this would break Burnout but figured it was worth mentioning.

Thanks for the tip. I double checked and my resolution is set to 1680x1050 which is the native resolution for my monitor. That's the same resolution I played the trial version on. Still no luck.

hI,
I am having the same problem with a bunch of games too. I am playing them on the Samsung A750 3D DLP tv.
I also posted my problem on the MTBS board, as follows:
>>Elder Scroll 4 : Oblivion, BioShock, Elder Scroll 3: Morrowind, F.E.A.R., Painkiller, Fable: the Lost Chapter
However, out of these games, only Bioshock & Oblivion work in Stereo3D beautifully;
in all the other games, I got the following message when I load up the games: Warning: High VBI Fail to set, Stereo3d is temporarily disabled!
& and the game simply refused to go into stereo 3d mode :(
Could anyone please give me some help here? thanks very much
(it's also interesting to note that it seems like only the next generation games work, and the older games do not  )

In my efforts to fix another problem I've been having with WoW, I did the following.
Removed all drivers, video, 3d, and physx. I rebooted into safe mode and ran a utility called driver sweeper to remove traces of all Nvidia drivers. I rebooted and installed the video drivers from the 1.04 cd. Rebooted again and installed the 3d drivers from the 1.04 cd.
It did not correct my WoW problem but it did fix the Burnout VBI problem. Once I realized that Burnout was working again I upgraded to the 1.05 cd and it still runs.

Hi,
Right now I just upgrade to the 1.05cd version drivers too, but the VBI message problem still persists, so I do not know if it's my display's problem or just something to do with my setting.
Could anyone comment on this VBI message problem? & what does it mean? thanks!

I also just got the HL67A750, and the 3D vision glasses.
I have only tried Burnout and Left 4 Dead, and have had no problems so far.
I should have the original FEAR around somewhere, I can try installing that and see if it works.
I assume you are using the DVI to HDMI cable that came with glasses, and have it on the 3rd HDMI slot with the name set to "PC"?
Yes, I am having the correct setup, DVI-HDMI connect to the 3rd HDMI port, and rename the input to PC as instructed by the setup wizard.
~And I did see Bioshock and Oblivion working in stereo3D in 1920x1080 resolution. So I don't really know what's going on with the other games I tried.
~>>also, another observation for the non--working games (Elder Scroll 3: Morrowind, F.E.A.R., Painkiller, Fable: the Lost Chapter): when I loaded them up, it won't go into full screen in my TV, just occupy a square window in the TV, and I can't adjust the resolution to the higher resolution(always stuck at some 1280x1024 or some lower resolution) compare to when I play them on my 22'' LCD monitor @ 1680x1050

Ah ha!
I think that explains the problem then. Again, if I use any resolution other then 1920x1080 then I will also get the VBI error.
Also I noticed on Burnout that if I swith to a "bad" resolution and then back to 1920x1080, it will still give the "HIGH VBI" error.
I have to exit and start the game in the correct resolution for it to work.
My guess is that the older games do not support the 'HDTV' resolution natively.
It may be possible to edit an INI file or something to to get them to run. I would check fan forums for the game, or http://www.widescreengamingforum.com

Hi Tim,
Yes, I guess that might be the cause of the problem! I tried to change the resolution in the game config file, but still had no luck to get rid of the annoying VBI Warning message >.<
~I did however, manage to crank up the resolution in Fabel to 1920x1080, but still no stereo3d either.......
So could there possibly be a fix for this in the upcoming driver release? (because I would really not wanna spend another 400$ for the Samsung 120hz lcd monitor /no.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )
~oh Tim, if you could please test your copy of FEAR for me on your 67A750 dlp for me, I would really appreciate it, thanks :)

Ok, I installed FEAR last night and then patched it to 1.08.
I then loaded the game, and set resoultion to 1920x1080 and AA off. Doing it from the Config utility did not 'take' for some reason.
After quitting and restarting FEAR, everything came up in 3D and played fine. When things go into 'slow-motion' it kinda loses 3D but other then that it works well.
This was all on the Samsung 67A750, Awesome TV for a great price!

Hi Tim,
Thanks for testing FEAR for me, that's a good news to hear. BUT I can't even configure it to run on 1920x1080, would only go up to 1600x1200, and still getting the VBI warning ><"
And although I was able to configure Fable the Lost Chapter to run in 1920x1080, there is still no stereo-3d effect....and I am still getting the VBI warning message...it's strange
And I just tested out the original Far Cry, which came out the same time as FEAR, and it work in stereo3D in 1920x1080 beautifully.
So so far, out of the bunches of game I tested, only FarCry, Bioshock and Oblivion work on my 61A750 tv....I think I will just stick to these games and maybe get a 120hz lcd monitor when its price goes down later

Are you running your Vista Desktop at 1920x1080?
The fact that FEAR will not let you pick a resolution that the Desktop runs at would indicate something is wrong in the Game settings.
Also, if you resize your desktop then 3D will not work, unless you put on the Vista hotfix that was posted here:
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia....hp?p_faqid=2371

Hi Tim,
I did resize my desktop to something like 1799x1000(can't remember the exact #) to get rid of the overscan problem(desktop will have a little black rim/bar around the 4 sides/edge at that resolution), and BioShock, Oblivion, FarCry all work in that resolution with stereo 3d, and I turn my in-game setting to 1920x1080.
And even when I adjust my desktop resolution back to 1920x1080, I am still getting the same warning message for those games that did not work in the resized resolution... ~ so yea...I am dumbstruck for now
I have not tried the DLP hotfix because I thought it's only for the Mitsubishi DLP users(as the release NOTE: Samsung DLP users with models A750, A610, or A510 should not use the Resize HDTV Desktop option right now and should only use the resolutions recommended at 1024x768, 1280x1024 or 1360x768. These resolutions won't be displayed full screen but will still allow you to use 3D Vision. )
So I don't know, maybe I should try the hotfix?
And I think I will try reinstall FEAR and see what happenes

I reinstall all my Nvidia drivers to the CD1.06 version, reinstall FEAR, & download/install the newest game update patch, bang~ now it works in stereo3D on my HL61a750 DLP :) ~thanks so much!
However, when I load up games like Fable, Painkiller, Prince of Persia Sand of time....still getting the Warning: High VBI Fail to set, Stereo3d is temporarily disabled message........hopefully Nvidia can address on this issue soon :(

The only change I made to the system from the last time it worked was installing a Microsoft wireless receiver (usb) which is used for connecting an Xbox 360 controller to the computer. Vista was able to recognize it and install the drivers without me using the cd that came with it. I'm not sure how this would break Burnout but figured it was worth mentioning.

in all the other games, I got the following message when I load up the games: Warning: High VBI Fail to set, Stereo3d is temporarily disabled!
& and the game simply refused to go into stereo 3d mode :(
Could anyone please give me some help here? thanks very much
(it's also interesting to note that it seems like only the next generation games work, and the older games do not  )
~>>I also tried changing the resolution, but it won't help either...
Right now I just upgrade to the 1.05cd version drivers too, but the VBI message problem still persists, so I do not know if it's my display's problem or just something to do with my setting.
Could anyone comment on this VBI message problem? & what does it mean? thanks!

I am having the same problem with a bunch of games too. I am playing them on the Samsung A750 3D DLP tv.
I also posted my problem on the MTBS board, as follows:

I also just got the HL67A750, and the 3D vision glasses.
I have only tried Burnout and Left 4 Dead, and have had no problems so far.
I should have the original FEAR around somewhere, I can try installing that and see if it works.
I assume you are using the DVI to HDMI cable that came with glasses, and have it on the 3rd HDMI slot with the name set to "PC"?

(because I would really not wanna spend another 400$ for the Samsung 120hz lcd monitor

The fact that FEAR will not let you pick a resolution that the Desktop runs at would indicate something is wrong in the Game settings.
Also, if you resize your desktop then 3D will not work, unless you put on the Vista hotfix that was posted here:

Hi Tim,
I did resize my desktop to something like 1799x1000(can't remember the exact #) to get rid of the overscan problem(desktop will have a little black rim/bar around the 4 sides/edge at that resolution), and BioShock, Oblivion, FarCry all work in that resolution with stereo 3d, and I turn my in-game setting to 1920x1080.
