1 month VR headset owners, you still use 3d vision or VR or both?
  4 / 6
Next year when Batman, Doom, Fallout 4, Robinson show up and price of each headset drop down then we`ll get proper impulse to go for it. Also other companies will jump on this market, maybe even Nvidia or maybe new version of present ones. I like what I read in here as well. The opinions are great suggestions for me so I definitely will be on board at some point. I just like to make wise choice and not regret because of rush. Not enough money in the budget to make regrettable investment.

I plugged in my 3D monitor again today after about 3 months to try out Inside as it would look amazing in 3D, other than that I've not been using 3D for a long while now. I got my Oculus CV1 about a month ago and I've been happily playing a lot of Project Cars, Elite Dangerous and Defence Grid 2, all other gaming is on my Acer X34 21:9 monitor. For me 3D on a monitor won't make me switch off VR, as the immersion you can get in VR for cockpit games is just too good.

I don t have neither vive nor rift but planning on getting one, one thing that confuses me in this thread is that pp only talked about VR in their opinions and didn t mention 3D. Was VR mentioned also in 3D or merely a 2D VR in this discussion? Forgive if the question is obvious. Just need to know for sure to make my purchase decision.

I'm not even sure what 2D Virtual Reality would be? It's always in 3D as far as I know.
I'm not even sure what 2D Virtual Reality would be? It's always in 3D as far as I know.
Almost always, but not always. It doesn't really make too much sense to do VR without 3D, especially games. However, I've seen several experiences that do 2D images, like movie theater stuff, and especially 360 video tend to be in 2D. It's actually really rare to find any 360 video that is actually in 3D. It's not completely terrible, there are the other depth clues that can compensate to a large degree. But yes, as a general rule, it's always stereoscopic 3D. And the most compelling experiences are in 3D.

A 2D VR experience either renders at infinity (like setting convergence to 0.0 in 3D Vision), or in 2D on a virtual screen. Most experiences are 3D.

Couple months ago i bought vive but i was disappointed with it. Im not a fan of roomscale at all so i sold it and got Oculus rift cv1 instead. Rift is superior headset for sitting down experiences, perceived resolution feels better, there is less sde and its comfortable to wear. Vive wasnt. I still prefer 3d vision gaming to vr atm, also on a projector. Im basically keeping rift for racing games, currently enjoying dirt rally very much.

After a relatively short testing-period of my two new devices (Oculus Rift and Vive) they started to collect some dust (since none of the currently available games really catched my attention). Of course there are some games which could be described as full-fledged games (Edge of Nowhere/Rift, the Gallery, Chronos, Elite Dangerous......) and while I definitely like those games and want to play them in the coming weeks/months they don't catch my attention to the point where I am not able to resist playing them. This is rather due to the fact that I am not that interested in the given games' subject. So if it wasn't for VR I definitely wouldn't have purchased those games. But since I just want to play REAL games in VR (instead of those "Hey look what VR can do"-demos) I bought them anyway. But as I said lately I re-focused more on 3D Vision again (including switching my 3D Vision Surround Setup with a 55" 4K OLED TV). While I am totally enjoying the TV I must admit that I have to split my focus again. It's simply impossible to leave my Vive on the shelf now that Raw Data has been released as an early access game. Although the game's subject (Cyber and Sci-Fi stuff) wouldn't be my first choice I must say that this game and especially its gameplay is as good as VR can possibly get! In this game you can choose between characters that are played fundamentally different (due to early access-state only two are currently available, a so called "gun cleric" who heavily relies on gun combat while the available Cyber Ninja prefers close combat and Jedi-like tactics using a lightsaber that of course isn't called a lightsaber in this game). The game plays like a horde-mode where you have to defend yourself against hordes of attackers using either gun combat including nice (unlockable) special moves or the lightsaber that also features a variety of unlockable Specials. You also need to duck into cover, get out of harm's way by a very good designed "Tele-Dash"-mechanic and by deploying counter-measures in the form of turrets and traps. This game has absolutely perfect gameplay in my opinion and gameplay is so intuitive that I just couldn't believe it at first. I don't know where to start describing how awesome this game plays (and that's coming from someone who has absolutely no interest in the horde-mode genre). And if I would even try to describe it this posting would be a very very long read (since there are so many aspects of awesomeness to cover). So let me just recommend RAW DATA to every Vive user out there. For me this game alone is enough to confirm that VR is here to stay!

I'm pretty much over 3D....It's still the best image quality but when it comes to immersion my occulus wins hands down. I'm actually inside the game. Don't know what games you guys are playing but flying in Planetside 2 is absolutely amazing. Driving in Project Cars and AC are amazing. Pretty much any FPS is amazing also 3D Vision had been out for years and we still don't have a CPU solution to the performance cap. To me that is the only thing that keep 3D from being the most amazing experience.

Atleas to me visual candy is much more important than being there. I´d rather be "here" with quality visual than be "there" surrounded by jagged edges and poop demos. And using 3d vision with projector or several, you get also movie experience from bluray. Can´t even think about watching a movie in VR. Allthough when 4k panels with decent pixel density are in everyday VR headset i´ll happily own one for some games

I would be an idiot if I dismissed games like the witcher 3 or rottr in 3d to play only in VR. To this day I'm still amazed watching games in 3d just like the first day, it truly never gets old. Still VR is the ultimate immersion tool and when it works it can be so much better than 3d,and I use it as much as 3d vision, depending of what's available, but there are so amazing and deep experiences to play in 3d that I know I will still be playing in 3d for years, even with my current backlog alone. Besides nothing in VR has me more excited that the dream of playing Deus ex mankind divided in 3d, that would be incredible. VR on the other hand has yet to find the killer app that can compare.

I am playing games in 3D Vision since 2009 and I also have to say that the sensation with every new 3D Vision game is still like day one. So I know that for me VR will never completely replace 3D Vision. But if it's working (and there are - albeit scarce - some examples where VR totally delivers) you can't get over the fact that VR with its "being there/feeling like the situation was real"-approach is hard to beat.

All this candid objective feedback on VR from you guys is great. It's not the fanboyism crap that you normally see. Just because some are deciding to wait for a next gen VR headset or perhaps a killer game that is a headset seller, doesn't mean 3D Vision users don't want it! What's positive is that VR may finally become the product that has been envisioned for many decades and never quite succeeded.
