Can't play Dead Space 1 in 3D.
  1 / 2
Hello! I recently acquired the ability to play games with the NVIDIA 3D vision glasses, and I want to play Dead Space 1 with them for obvious reasons. The problem is, is when I start the game, 3D vision never starts. I have fullscreen on, and I messed with NVIDIA inspector but nothing has helped. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeah, as blacksmith said you need to give more information. Do you have the 3d vision kit or a built in emitter? Does your monitor support 3d vision is it 3d ready and have at least 120hz refresh rate? Is this the only game you can't get to work in 3d or the first you've tried? Hvae you set up 3d using the setup wizard? If you can't get it to come on when starting game can you use CTRL-T (keyboard shortcut) to turn it on manually?

Wow, sorry forgot to mention lots of things. I have the Steam version and I'm running Windows 10 Pro, and I have an NVIDIA GeForce 970 and Intel i7-6700. I have the 3D vision kit and my monitor is 3D ready with a 144hz refresh rate. It was the first game I tried but I can get Dishonored to get into 3D. I tried CTRL+T but nothing happened, it doesn't even show the rating for the game in the bottom right corner. As a side note I also cannot get Dolphin Emulator into 3D.

@RoranVanq, that's good you can get Dishonored working, as that cuts out a lot of steps to see if your 3D is actually functioning :-) I just re-installed the DS-1 Steam Version on Win10 Pro, Fall Creators Edition/Currently Updated, EVGA 1080, with Driver 388.71. DS-1 does work on this machine. I had to "Alt-Tab" out of the game, then back in to the game to get the 3D to kick in correctly. Maybe "Alt-Enter" also to make sure you're in full screen mode? Test to confirm 3D active before going in to the game from the "Nvidia Control Panel - Set up stereoscopic 3D" ? You have the DLL from the HelixMod site that says "DLL (updated today)" ? I didn't test the old DLL, and I also had Steam Overlay OFF. P.S. Sorry, but can't help you with the Dolphin as I've never used it.

Thank you for the suggestions but sadly, none worked. Is it okay if I download the fixes from the 3D fix manager program? Oh, and if this helps, I was able to get this into 3D months ago, but then I was using anaglyph. Should I try buying the Origin or GOG versions in case they are any different? And it's okay you aren't familiar with Dolphin, I'm not playing too many games on it anyway.

In my limited expertise opinion, I doubt if the Origin or GOG game will make a difference. Let me test something else on a different PC with 144hz monitors. Stand by.

OK, try this. I tried setting up on Win 10 Fall Creators Update w/1080ti and driver 388.59 on a BenQ XL2720Z @144hz. It would not work. But I could get it working doing the following: -Turn off 3D - which for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, seems best to turn off and on from the Windows Settings. Systems>Display - down at the bottom there is a toggle for 3D off or on. - Set Desktop to 1920x1080 @ 120hz in NV Control Panel - Not 144hz. - Go in to Game and set same, 1920x1080 @ 120hz - Full Screen - Exit and turn 3D back on - Go back in to game. - This did fire up 3D and gave me the Green NV overlay in the right lower corner - After install the Helix Fix, I still had to "Alt-Tab" out of, then back in to the game to get the fix to kick in. It works on this pc also, but like mentioned, only if everything is set to 120hz. I noticed several days ago (clean DDU install of 388.59 (on this PC)) that 3D in Surround would not work (at all-zip) on some games if my desktop was at 144hz. If I switched the desktop to 120hz, this fixed it most of the time. Hope that works for you. EDIT- and just to make sure, I set the game and desktop at 144hz (after confirming 120hz does work), and it will not play in 3D/single monitor. I get a black screen (with game playing in the background) I must have the game and desktop at 120hz with this pc/current config, to work.

I cannot do this right now, but I did read over it and would like to know, my monitor is 1440p, not 1080p. I can set it to 1440p instead, right? Sorry if this seems too specific or anything.

Ya, give it a shot :-) , this (my) system, for whatever reason just wanted the game and display at 120hz. I didn't try other resolutions than native 1080p.

Sorry to disappoint, but changing to 120hz didn't do anything. I don't mean to give up, but if you don't have anymore ideas then I don't have to get this into 3D. I just re-installed Dead Space 2 and the 3D worked with it fine. Is there anyway to force Exclusive Fullscreen in case it's not on for some reason, or force 3D vision in general?

Have you disabled the Steam overlay, that can sometimes be an issue ! Dead Space 1 has some weird issues, I have the Origin version and couldn't make it work, and the only solution was to use an "alternative" exe file, that works flawless !

I can not think of anymore that djbnew didn't offer as suggestions, except for this one. I don't know if it will work cause I read on another thread that if you are using the HELIXMOD dlls then this might not work with 3d vision. I have used this to get my 3d vision working again after the FCU from Windows. I tested it on several games BUT NONE with a Helix Mod fix. If you have STeam DS, navigate to C:|program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Dead Space this is where the appilcation file should be. Right click on the application file (the .exe file that starts the game) and select properties. Check the box that says Disable Full Screen Optimization and then try starting the game in steam. It might go right into 3d or you might have to click CTRL-T or it might not work at all but it's simple to do and worth a try. EDIT: I have DS for steam, i have already played, deleted it, but am going to download it again, run it normally to see if 3d vision works and then run it with the fix above and the HELIX mod fix to see what happens. I will report what i find... So I got it to work in 3d vision by using the disable full screen technique but it doesn't work with the Helix fix, i had to rename the d3d9.dll file to get it to work. Then it was ok but not perfect like it was with the fix.

Yeah... this is a bit embarrassing. It turns out I had the compatibility mode for Windows Vista on. That was preventing 3D vision from starting. Sorry for all the trouble. But still, thank you for trying to help me.

Cool. Glad you got it working. Lots of variables in this 3d world. Have fun :-)
