I got a celexon screen mounted , but only used it one time (not really happy with it (size wise)
After that i basicly painted my wall white (not a special paint or something)
Maybe it also helps a bit that i got like black curtains that don`t allow light to pass trough
Also about the black-levels, did read so many forum post on avs about that the black levels were average , so where surprised that it did it better then the benq (for my feeling) Will take some screens this evening.
My 3d Vision kit came in today, hooked it up and suddenly there is a Generic CRT mode available :)
Can`t wait to tonight to put it to the test. At this point the projector surpassed my expetations
and it feels like a real step-up

You mean "Optomized for Nvidia Geforce" don't you?
AFAIK 3D Vision will not work with TVs unless they support Checkerboard
What does it show in your Nvidia control panel?
Really happy with the Optoma and the 3d is a real step up :)
Though I can`t figure out how to enable DSR with 3D at 120HZ
I have tried already CRU and remove the 4K resolution but it won`t work
The DSR resolutions show up to something about 8196xsomething (3D)
problem is everything is capped at 30Hz instead of 120Hz

You forgot to delete some resolutions in the EDID. Some 4k resolutions are really well hidden in CRU :). DSR only works if ALL 4k resolutions have been deleted. To shorten the way here is my DSR EDID (all 4K resolutions eliminated): http://fixmanager.rentus.de/downloads/Optoma_UHD_40_DSR.zip
Here is the tutorial how to install the EDID for Windows 8.1 or 10:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIhjjcoyX_s
You should apply this EDID for the HDMI 1 port of the projector (not the HDMI 4k! - somehow we still want to be able to access 4K and HDR!). I connected two HDMI cables from the projector to my PC. One for the 4K port and one for the 3D DSR HDMI 1 port. So I can choose if I want to play 4K 2D / movies or 3D DSR games.

You're very welcome. The only issue with 4k is that it's so demanding xD.
But at least older games like Dead Space 1-3 run perfectly fine in 4k and 3D (at least on a GTX 1080). One of my favourite games in 3D - you should definitely try them if you haven't yet :).

It is indeed demanding , more then i thought :)
Running with a Gtx980 here , so really happy that with this projector I don`t need DSR as mutch as with the Benq
Dead Space 3 was the first game that I launched with the Optoma , it became the serie`s to test new things on my setup. Manage to do so long about the first level yesterday being stuck around looking how awesome things look
Though I needed to settle on 2880x2160 otherwise FPS would drop to mutch lol
Thanks again!

Lol yeah Dead Space is like a reference for 3D. It was also one of the first games I tested on the new Optoma. It just looks sooo good in 4K. Now we know what we have missed all the years on 1080p projectors just because manufacturers didn't want to equip them with HDMI 2.0 or Display ports... what a wasted time.

Hello people,
For some time I was thinking of replacing my Asus VG248QE with a large screen 3D solution a 3DTV or 3D projector supporting 1080p 120Hz. Saw this thread and just bought Optoma UHD40. And I am glad I did :). 3D using Generic CRT mode works right out of the box. In general I am happy with everything else as well.
Thanks a lot Paul and everyone else for all the information in this post. :)

Thanks to the shader wizards for the hard work of patching these games and to Paul Dusler for the continued development of 3D Fix Manager...it's a great tool!
I'm coming from a Benq w1070 and am looking to leverage the benefits of a 4K projector. I've generally used a mix of 3Dtvplay, TriDef SBS/TB and a PS3 (movies) for my 3D content.
The higher bandwidth of HDMI 2.0 had opened some doors, but it looks like SBS/TB manual modes aren't supported by the 3D vision compatible projectors that have been found to support HDMI 2.0. The only sub $2,000 USD one that looks like it does SBS/TB and is 3D Vision compatible might be the UHD51A.
Am I correct that the UHD40/50 would kill my ability to do TriDef in SBS and 3D Blu-ray discs from my PS3?
Also, can anyone confirm that the UHD51A is 3D vision supported at 1080p 120 Hz?
Thanks! Love this forum. :)

SBS/TB is indeed not supported on the Optoma Uhd40/50
The UHD51A does support SBS/TB , but iam not sure about the 1080P,120Hz.
I looked in to it also on AVS forums but found nothing about the 1080P/120hz

Thanks for the quick reply, frank.
Ideally, I'd like to have a solution that supports:
[.]3D Blu Ray playback from PS3 (or via software like PowerDVD on Windows 10)[/.]
[.]4K 2D @ 60fps (don't care about HDR at this point)[/.]
[.]3D Vision compatible gaming in 1080p@60fps per eye[/.]
[.]SBS/TB (forced 3D modes to support for 21:9/ultrawide 3D Vision and TriDef)[/.]
Out of that list, I don't want to give up SBS/TB modes, because then I have to give up 21:9/ultrawide 3D gaming altogether and that's really my sweet spot these days. I also can't give up playback of 3D Blu Ray movies (wife and kids).
Not sure what to do here. I think I need 'Full 3D' in order to maintain SBS/TB modes and support 3D blu ray playback from the PS3. I do have a 3D blu ray player in my HTPC, but I don't know what projector would support that via software (Power DVD 18 or whatever). As of now, I don't care about HDR and 1080p/120Hz is attractive, but I'm unwilling to trade ultrawide gaming for it.
4K is critical because in my new house we'll be sitting closer to the screen due to some layout constraints and can benefit greatly from the additional resolution.
This 4K/120Hz crap feels like one big tease....and I'm going to end up with another w1070 and more waiting. :P

You can play 21:9 on a lot of displays, provided that the installed software does not give an "out of range" warning. You just need to make a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel.
TriDef has a Frame Sequential output.
Are you referring to mirroring your HMD or something?
Blue-rays can be played via PowerDVD Ultra or WinDVD Pro in Frame Sequential, provided that "generic CRT" will allow you to select the "Nvidia Display" option in their software. I've no idea and can not test for you. But I was always able to do so on my 720P 120Hz projector until Analog Sunset screwed over VGA connections.
