Decline of 3D Vision - Thought you all should know - Dark Times Ahead :(

Just a quick question
If the community do make their own mods, will they be able to add them to the helixmod site, Im guessing a free-for-all login wouldn't be sensible, so maybe Bo3b might have control to upload new fixes to the existing site? Would obviously need Bo3b & eqzitara to discuss.
The most important thing is that the fixes, both old and new remain easy to find, download and use - all hopefully from one location.

The blog was never an ideal format. Too linear and unorganised. The perfect solution would be using something like the nexusmods site (if only nexus had a 3dvision section - I asked for that once, but no response). There must be something out there that can be used, whether it's moddb.com or something else.
Ideally, you'd want a site that lets anyone upload mods using their own account credentials, and allows categories, ratings, comments, version numbers, etc.
@Volnaiskra have you tried Tridef, Vorpx or Vireio wrappers with the Oculus Rift?......
it's been a while, but I think I tried vorpx or vireio. My main goal was to get Portal 2 working, after having read a glowing article about portal 2 and the Rift months earlier. I spent hours trying different things, and searching for community info on the topic which was scarce. I found the whole thing frustrating and fruitless. I can't remember if vorpx/vireio improved the situation, but I think it just added to the confusion. I got some kind of result with Portal 2, but nothing remotely playable. I haven't tried Tridef for the Rift, but I've used it for 3d,and it's very fiddly and flaky on my system.
Ultimately, it seemed like more stress than it was worth. I'm no stranger to tinkering and modding, but this was a level of ardousness I hadn't encountered before.
I'm sure it's improved since, but I'm also sure it's not the greener pastures some people are making it out to be.

terrible news indeed, but expected. What can we do if the majority of population don't appreciate the immersion factor. The fault is on the development side as well for releasing titles with bad support and making the process of getting the right experience quite difficult for the average Joe.
It was still worth it though. I only made the jump a year ago and, hell, Metro and Trine alone were worth the experience. There are still plenty of games to try out.
VR will try next, but it probably won't be viable for anything other than 1st/3rd person games, but we'll see.
A very large THANKS to Helix and all the other guys who have made all the patches and really made it THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED for the companies that were supposed to do it themselves.
THANK YOU GUYS!

To bad it has come to this. nVidia just doesn't give a damn about support. Same with their shitty solution for NVSurround. They just keep screwing things up and break more then they make. I gave up asking for help with the problems THEY caused with newer drivers. If NV keeps ignoring 3D it's just an easier way for me to go AMD. No need to keep a Nvidia card if there is no 3D support.
Anyway, thanks to all of you who supported 3DVision.
Hi Andy - I mentioned in an earlier post that I will be documenting top tips for fixing DX9 games, and I will include in that DX11 Migoto as well. Regarding Rome2, that was a difficult fix if I am being completely honest with you, however if you remember I did a WIP fix for Shogun 2 that was finished off and published by Kankegeforce on the blog. I wrote some details about the shadow pixel shaders for those games (they are the same) in the thread at the time (starts here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/513190/3d-vision/how-to-fix-disable-shaders-in-games-dll-guide-and-fixes-/post/4069186/#4069186). Not sure how useful it will be.
Nice1! Looking forward to those tips. If Kankegeforce can do it, so can I! ermmm yeah.... You can only do your best right?
Has anyone asked the MTBS3D guys about uploading fixs? Or at least offer them the reins?

At least for awhile it doesn't look like we will change the way fixes are posted and shared. Anybody who makes a fix will be able to get a login.
The blog is not necessarily the ideal mechanism, but we all know it, and I have too much other work to do on 3Dmigoto to take on changing up the blog or make a nexus. If someone wanted to take on making a better hub/nexus as their contribution, that would be great.

Pretty sad news....
3d vision became to me the most important visual feature in a game, and I can't stop to think that Nvidia made a lot of mistakes about 3dvision:
-As said in this thread, if they pushed 3dvision integration as they push now TXAA or HBAO we would get lot more games with support which would also allow to get more users.
-There clearly also has been communication issues, every single gamer who tried my stereo rig (some saying at first 3d was just a gimmick) have been convinced by what 3d bring onto the table most of them even saying this is clearly a game changer.
-Also their IP approach made impossible to get a standard, I believe getting a stereoscopic standard whatever GPU users get (AMD, NVIDIA, INTEL or whatever) would have been the only solution, and NVIDIA would had benefits on it anyway by selling more GPUs due to the amount of power needed to play in 3d.
-Also their attitude with HDTVs is to blame (who want to play in 720p after tried a SBS or checkerboard mode).
-So it means Tridef will be the only solution (and thanks to VR we can hope it will get support for a while) but any SLI user can't be satisfied using Tridef with such poor perfs using NVIDIA's GPUs.
And of course NVIDIA will never be nice/smart (choose the one you want) to give DDD good support enough to change this.
So it means we will have to choose between few eyes candies NVIDIA GPU brings in some modern AAA games and decent stereoscopic performances using AMD GPU's.
I was waiting for the 880GTX to upgrade my 680 sli, but since my mobo is crossfire compatible, my next GPUs will probably be AMD ones and believe me I am very sad to have to do this, it will be my first AMD cards since the TNT T_T.
Pardon my english please.

Yep, it must have been Vireio. But I own the paid version of Tridef too - I tried it for Assassins' Creed Revelations and Bioshock Infinite, back before the Helix/Migoto patches existed.
But it was flaky on my system. For example, Tridef 3D wouldn't kick in in Bioshock Infinite at all unless I launched some other game first, then quit and launched Bioshock Infinite - it took me a while to discover this quirk. Plus, it's a hassle to set up Tridef on my monitor, as it requires switching cables and messing around with the monitor settings. So it's a fair bit of stuffing around just to check if a game even works, so I never bothered trying it with the Rift.
So yeah, if Tridef works smoothly for you, then that sounds great, but it doesn't work smoothly for everyone, and is just one more potential chokepoint in the system.
Again, I'm not knocking Tridef or the Rift per se. I'm just saying that, for many people. it's likely to be a more involved process with more potential troubleshooting than 3Dvision, despite 3Dvision theoretically having 'less support'.

Several people have been interested in the fun puzzles of working out game fixes, and have asked about how hard it is to learn, and how long it might take.
How hard is it to learn:
Naturally, this depends upon what kind of fix we are talking about. We can get incredibly good results, quickly, by simple disabling effects. There are a lot of games that are unplayable because of only one or two broken effects.
This is the starting level of fixes, and I really think that anyone with motivation can learn how to do these fixes, it's not that much harder than editing ini files, changing FOV, injecting SweetFX, that sort of stuff.
How long does it take to learn:
I believe you can learn this level of fixing with a couple of evenings of study. Seriously.
It's really arcane, and lots of new things you haven't seen before, but it's all pretty straightforward.
eqzitara made an awesome guide that is not well known, for doing this first level of fixes. Read this guide, look at the pictures, understand what he is saying. Give it a try. If you have any trouble, we're here to help. Post in the original Helix thread.

Later on, I'll talk about more complicated fixes, but really, you can get a lot of mileage out of just disabling stuff.
