I got the update........Go outside and get some sun. Save the Witcher 2 for winter /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Anyway. There is no competition for Nvidia. U have IZ3D which generally is not as good and supported even less with Driver updates then Nvidia generally does. I hope Nvidia can make it up with some 3D vision ready announcements soon. SKYRIM, BIOSHOCK, RAGE (find a way to make opengl work!!)

The only reason opengl doesn't work is they decided to stop supporting it, it did use to work.

ps: it is winter where I live.

Interesting keyword there, ManuelG: BUSINESS. In this case it spells: M-A-R-K-E-T-I-N-G

In oder to make more money NVIDIA and CDPR decided to cooperate on the upcoming hit game „The Witcher 2“ NVIDIA gave CDPR permission to print their 3D Vision ready-Logo on the retail box (and no, you cannot „just put it on the box yourself“, you need the permission of the owner of the rights to that logo).

So now CDPR can use the appeal of the NVIDIA-Logo to sell more games. And NVIDIA can use The Witcher 2 to advertise their products. In our little industry we like to call that „cross marketing“. It creates a win-win-situation for both companies. Unless ...

CDPR f***s it up. The framerate indoors makes parts of the game unenjoyable.

What now? NVIDIA gave their 3D Vision logo for a game that partly sucks in 3D. And by doing so, they took some responsibility for the quality of the final product. (And of course the logo at least suggests that the game works perfectly with 3D Vision. That’s why they invented it and advertise with it.) But wait ... the 3D Vision logo only „ensures compatibility with 3D Vision“ whitch does not really mean anything if you look closer. Whew! Close one! Even the „excellent“ rating only denotes that the game „renders perfectly“ in 3D – which it (mostly) did, albeit at snailspeed. And anyway, the 3D Vision community is not big enough to raise any serious storm. So lets just lay low until this has blown over. And so they did. (And the drive-by-postings of Andrew and Manuel in this forum did not make it better.)

As for CDPR, their so called „fix“ of 3D Vision only made everything worse. This can only have one of three reasons: They are incompetent, or they do not care (see above) or both.

And the moral of the story: logos and ratings and the promises they seem to make are great as long as they help selling (half baked) products. But as soon as the pesky customers brazenly demand that these promises are honoured, they become an embarrassing nuisance. This attitude shows utter contempt for us customers. And that is even worse than a simple lie.

At least now we know, what the 3D Vision logo is really worth.

@Tesla42: You're pretty much on the spot with your analysis.

But there's also a "but" in there :)

If you're developing new technologies to attract new customers, like nVidia has done with CUDA, PhysX or 3DVision, you're also always getting additional troubles with incompatibilities and stuff.

You make it sound like nVidia is happy as long as their customers already spent their money and nothing else matters. I don't think so. Forums like this, the propaganda from people's mouthes etc., all that is much more important than a logo on a box in the end. And nVidia is certainly very aware of that.

So I don't think that nVidia is happy with this situation at all. I can't believe that they're sitting there with "utter contempt for the customers", then that would mean the end of their business soon.

For CDPR it's a bit different though. The amount of people affected by this is too small to make a difference for them. They have only nVidia to pressure them into fixing that. And it seems that this force is unfortunately not big enough to really care, at least not for the development team who developed this patch.

I, for one, favour a company who tries to keep gaming on the PC alive with new ideas and technologies than one who only tries to sell through cheap prices and then just puts the development work into the hands of the community (OpenCL/Bullet or Open Stereo 3D). That's just cheap.

I'm just frustrated because I really like this game and if 3D Vision was working correctly with the performance issues fixed, it would by my 3D Vision game of the year so far by a wide margin.

I remember when Bioshock 2 came out and had issues with 3D Vision, there was a decent amount of posts here unhappy with that. They never got it all ironed out because, if I recall, halos still render around objects in the game. The game was decent, but not great, and eventually the posts about it died away.

I think, along with there being more 3D Vision users now, that is the main reason there is so much displeasure being posted here - the game is pretty damn good and we just want to enjoy it in all its glory, with 3D Vision powering it.

Here we go again with the "grass is always greener" BS. Silly people think Nvidia will be somehow terrified if they type "I'm switching sides!" /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I once decided to check out that "GIAG" BS (I switched sides for a 5870), and wouldn't you know, the grass turned out to be less green, and I regretted switching. I'm referring to driver support and driver quality. I don't post here frequently cuz I have no problems with the Geforce driver, I'm very happy with it. And Geforce ownership is simply a better experience than Radeon ownership. Because of the driver team. And the awesome ManuelG.

What's the name of the guy at AMD who is Manuel's equivalent? Oh sorry there isn't one. There's an indication right there of the 2 companies' attitudes towards their customers.

I'm not saying there's not issues in Witcher 2 3D to be tended to. Just be patient while CDP/Nvidia sorts it out. Play something else while you're waiting /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Agreed. This game is a marvel and it would be a shame if they don't fix the shadows problem. The game is the best RPG this year and the best graphical game this year so far!

Thanks Manuel, I recently bought my 2nd GTX 460 for a SLI setup and I am anxious for a second playthrough of Witcher 2 in 3d Vision. I like what you guys did with SLI. I am getting nearly %100 performance increase which is awesome!

I am hoping the same level of quality can be achieved with 3D Vision drivers, esp. in upcoming NVIDIA supported games like BF3 and Batman A.C.

In that same thread, Andrzej points out that the CORRECT email address to send in tech support requests is tw2support@cdprojektred.com (NOT tw2support@thewitcher.com).
Hmph. I had been sending it to the 'incorrect' address.
Maybe that's why they never answered.
