Hello. I am looking for a summary of the current state-of-affairs with 3DVision gaming on a 3DTV. Apologies in advance, as I'm sure the answers I seek reside somewhere in the 795 pages of this forum section, but the research I've done thus far leaves me with a number of questions...
First, I am familiar with 3DVision, though I haven't actively used it since 2014. At the time I ran a dedicated gaming monitor with NVidia's active glasses off a GTX 680. Today I'm using a 1070 and expecting delivery of one of last year's 4K OLEDs with passive 3D support.
My questions:
1. First, is 3DVision fully supported by NVidia's latest GPUs on Windows 10? I see install option there every time I upgrade drivers, so I'm assuming YES.
2. As I understand it, 3D Blu-Ray is a function of the playback software and HDMI spec, but requires nothing special from NVidia, and does not utilize 3DVision. Is that correct?
3. In my research I have read a bit about '3DTV Play' and it sounds a kind of scary...
i. Is 3DTV Play still required for stereoscopic gaming on a 3DTV?
ii. If yes, is it supported on 10-series GPUs and Windows 10?
iii. Is it still a separate purchase from NVidia?
iv. What's all this about the licensing server -- can new copies be purchased today?
Finally, what am I missing that should have been asked above?

W10 64 + 3DVision (Pyramid) + LG 55EF950V OLED 4K 3D, no problem with games, as far as you use HelixMod patches and don't buy from Microsoft store. Use Steam/Origin/Uplay, Microsoft locks games, you won't be able to patch them.
If you want to save some fps, you can't try some trick, to make your GPU use half the resolution lines, as the 4K OLED use passive 3D, where half of the lines are unused:

To read bluray 3D from PC you have to buy 3DTVplay or have the IR pyramid connected and the good software, PowerDVD with Ultra/Live version mandatory. Or use ripped 3D videos in this case, you need nothing, just click 3D on your remote and put your 3D glasses on your nose.
3DVision use alternative (Frame sequential) 3D package, 3DTVplay use frame packing 3D (HDMI 1.4 standard). Other than that it's the same, but TV don't know how to read alternative 3D, so yes you need 3DTVPlay to activate the frame packing. It's realy a shame from Nvidia but you have to buy it...

I don't see why Nvidia serie 10, would not work.

Dugom, thank you. The thread you linked is perfect.
- For video playback I plan on using Pot Player, not one of the official apps, and mostly ripped video.
- You mention the Pyramid. I don't have one, as my previous 3D monitor had the emitter built-in. Does Nvidia use it like a dongle and authenticate based on presence of the hardware?
- It's a shame that EDID hacks are necessary. How does it work for you in practice, smoothly or a pain?
- I still a but confused as to whether 3DTV Play will be necessary. If the GPU can generate an interleaved image natively (if that is correct) then there would be no need for frame-packing at all. Is that correct?

According to http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-compare.html 3DTV Play is not needed for Blu-ray 3D.
