I'm new to 3D Vision, and this forum, but not to computers. I just bought a 3D ready LightBoost monitor and 3D Vision 2 glasses. I figured out how to use them with games pretty easily. For whatever reason though, I cannot figure out how to view movies or photos. I've tried viewing the samples on the NVidia site, but even though the glasses come on, the video is not rendered in 3D. When I look at the image without glasses the image is clear. I've played with every setting I can find but nothing happens.
Similarly, I've tried looking at 3D videos on Youtube. A lot of them are side by side, so how does that work? I make sure the glasses are on, but I still just see two images side by side. I downloaded some sample videos in .mkv format, but the included 3D player doesn't recognize that file type.
This is embarrassing. I know my way around video software, and I understand the principles of 3D, but for the life of me I can't figure this out. Can anyone help me out?

No need to be embarassed, none of it is as straightforward as it should be atm.
For photos, with nvidia photo viewer you generally need to be in fullscreen mode to have 3D kick-in. The quick keys for that are ctrl-v. Nvidia has been working on getting 3D to work in windowed mode but this support has been hit/miss and on/off for the last few driver revisions.
For youtube movies, you need an HTML 5.0 capable browser, which I believe is still currently limited to Firefox 8+ (beta) atm. So if you want to view 3D content off Youtube, you need to use Firefox.
Then there's online 3D services that allow you to watch both videos and photos in 3D. 3DVisionlive.com is an excellent example of this and is run by Nvidia. Its probably the most seamless/user-friendly experience out there now. You can use whatever browser you like for the photos, but I do believe the videos still require HTML 5.0 support since most are still youtube based.

I tried everything you mentioned, but still no luck. I downloaded Firefox, and tried viewing both photos and video. Again, my glasses activate, but the photos are just photos. They are crystal clear when the glasses are off, so they aren't displaying as 3D. I can swap sides, so I know there are two pictures there, but they do not blink on and off. Movies either display as 2D, or automatically go to red/cyan. In Youtube I can click on 3D to change settings, but there doesn't appear to be a setting for Nvidia. I tried all of them anyway, but none worked.
FYI all my drivers are up to date. I can view games and the demo dvd perfectly, so I know the hardware is working. I receive no error messages when trying to view anything. The glasses go on, the shutters are working, but the picture or video simply doesn't display in 3D. I've clicked on every setting I can find and nothing changes. Same issue in IE and Firefox.
Even the 3D Vision Live site does this, and it's supposed to be custom designed for my setup. It's certainly not being user-friendly for me. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Is there a plug-in or something that is needed? A setting in the Nvidia setup perhaps? I'm stumped.

Ok, I'm having some success now. Not sure why though. I found a 3d video site which allowed me to display full screen. After that I could reduce the size and it stayed 3D. Then I went back to the NVidia site and it works now. So I'm still confused, but happy.
It appears the 3D video player included doesn't like .mkv files. Is there a codec I can download, or perhaps another player someone can recommend?
Also, how do I turn off the glasses? Do they just go off on their own?

Yea the 3DVideo player doesn't accept .mkv files i believe.
The glasses Turn off by themselves if kept idle for sometime(30seconds or so), or you can press the button given(A light press will turn off the glasses).

Perhaps the 3D Vision II glasses are different, but on the first gen glasses there is no "power off" feature. The glasses turn off after (I believe) 10 mins of not receiving a signal from the emitter. The button on the glasses is only for turning them on.
