Optoma HD142X 3d DLP
  1 / 2
Hello, Does anyone know if the Acitve DPL Optoma HD142X works well with 3dvision? I tried to look at the specs, and seems to support : Side-by-Side:1080i50 / 60, 720p50 / 60 Frame-pack: 1080p24, 720p50 / 60 Over-Under: 1080p24, 720p50 / 60 For me, 720p is no go in games nor 24fps , but 1080i60 would be enough, but my main concern is that on my passive LG tv, 3d vision play need zalman edid hack to display "correctly". Would it be the same with this DLP, or will it be able to display 1080i in games directly? Thanks for your time ;)

Hi, It would be best if someone that own the DH142x answers. I'm just talking based on specs. Based on the specification it can do Over-Under only in 1080p@24h which is odd and a nogo for gaming. O-U is quite OK in 1080p@60hz. It also is not clear if it can do 720p@120hz. It specifies that supports 120hz for 3D but no info on frame sequential, only frame packing. I tried 1080i for gaming and it's a no go on projectors. The image is so ugly you are better off with 720p. Passive displays are a totally different story/technology. On the 720p you can use 4x DSR for best results. In an edid mod it could be possible to get some higher custom resolutions if it allows frame sequential.

Thanks for your quick reply, i didn't thought of DSR factor, i'll try it tonight on my LGtv in Witcher 3 to see the quality of the image compared to 1080i.

I have the europe version (hd27). It can do 1080p over under and side by side at 60hz. 3d vision doesnt support that natively, so you need to use 3dmigoto helixmod fixes and enable it there. It also does 720p@60hz frame packed(3dtv play), 120hz framesequential(requires edid mod to enable nvidia 3d vision check). Out of the box its supported via 3dtv play, so 720p@60hz and 1080p@24hz. 1080p over/under looks the best in my opinion, 720p 3dtv play looks ok when downsampling the base game from higher resolution. I think witcher 3 fix has over under mode in it, guide how to enable it in helixmod site too if you are not familiar with it. When you use SBS / OU with helixmod fix, you need to change your 3d vision from 3dtv play to checkerboard in the nvidia control panel to enable 1080p60 3d output. Think this was also covered in the helixmod witcher 3 page.

Strange, the specs on optoma website: http://www.optoma.fr/projectorproduct/hd27 Side-by-Side:1080i50 / 60, 720p50 / 60 Frame-pack: 1080p24, 720p50 / 60 Over-Under: 1080p24, 720p50 / 60 Did they made a new version?

Sammy123, do you have this edid hack for you dlp?
Its half side by side and half over under at 60hz. But it looks much better than 720p frame packed, give it a go. You can also compare native 1080p to 1080p half over under to see the difference. Just run the game 1080p@24hz with 3dtv play, its not playable but you see how it looks with full resolution. Half over under looks very close to it. Tridef 3d driver also supports half over under if you use that program. Full 1080p60hz is not possible, 1080p half over under is the best you'll get.

120hz framesequential(requires edid mod to enable nvidia 3d vision check).
Do you have the .inf in stock ? ;)
I used hd67n inf, h5360 inf is another popular but it didnt work for me for some reason. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-jFOtQ3CCSKYXp2QmpES2JYMlU/view?usp=sharing No i dont have the edid installed and i have different main projctor. I tried it because i wanted to test nvidia 3d vision glasses which worked fine(need to select IR Vesa 3d mode from projector to avoid dlp link flash washing out the image). I didnt see a reason to use the edid hack permamently since it didnt have any benefits to me. It does not matter if the 3d was enabled by 120hz frame sequential or 60hz frame packed. It looked the same and both had 720p limit. If you wanted to use nvidia 3d vision glasses, then its required, but not other reason to do it as far as i know. If you do the hack, theres a chance you get reversed eyes every time you open a game. If you use optoma ir or dlp link 3d glasses. Correct it by eye sync invert in pj menu or enable and disable 3d vision couple times until it gets right while in game(control+t). Obviously stays the same the entire session after that. If you use nvidia 3d vision glasses, the eye sync stays the same always. I prefer to use 1080p half over under to any other modes.

Im a fan of 3d vision v1 glasses so i bought optoma zf2300 which has same frame. If you are buying ir glasses, note that you need ir receiver as well. They sell them bundled and as glasses only package.

Is the crosstalk (or it's absence) ok with this dlp? That the main problem I have with my passive lgtv, too much crosstalk between contrasts.

Dlp tech is optimal for no crosstalk, so it depends on the glasses. If they work correctly, you shouldnt see any, or very little amount. Ive seen some variance in crosstalk level between glasses(even amongst same models). I currently have couple optoma zf2300 and those have little crosstalk only on the most extreme situation, ie pure white on pure black. Hard to see any in games. For my benq projector, i use benq branded DGD5 dlp link glasses and those have very minimal amount of crosstalk too.

Not a much difference with the glasses, prefer benq ht2050 projector. Mostly because i can see rainbow artifacts very clearly on hd27. If you dont see them, dont try to look for them. Hard to ignore them after.
If you dont see them, dont try to look for them. Hard to ignore them after.
Lol ;) Yes I was talking about the projectors, I didn't made my mind yet. I tried to use the 720p by spampling with higher resolution but it doesn't allow me output 60hz to the lgtv higher than 720p every higher res is put at 24hz. I enabled dsr, checked all the boxes, but when I try to select higher rez 3dtv play give me the red sentence... Maybe I missed something. Edit: nevermind, i just found a topic with the solution by darkfalz here : https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/778329/3d-vision/dsr-with-3dtv-play/post/5064844/#5064844 works like a charm on my lgtv downsampling 1080p to 720p. But didn't find helixmod of witcher 3 to setup over/under mode, i'll search more tomorow. Thanks Sammy
