I really like Valve as a company!
I bought L4D 1 and 2 a couple of weeks ago, emailed them about the 3D issues and they emailed me back to get more info and to say they were working on it. Within hours the engineer dude found a solution to the torch bug (which is inherent in all source games including HL2) and reassured me they were now looking into a fix for the water. I think they were genuinely unaware of the issues.
There are always going to be frustrating moments but my impression is that they really try to keep gamers happy.
Wow, i seriously hope that you're right and they weren't just BSing you. Somehow it just seems like SOMEONE who works at valve, someone who knows someone who works at valve, someone who betas for them, someone who knows someone who betas for them, or anyone who owns 3Dvision and has played the games on it would have mentioned it to them by now.. I mean 3dvision isnt THAT rare, and L4D games have been one of the ones mentioned most commonly, esp in some of the more popular reviews. I just have a hard time believing that havent tried their own game in 3D. That'd be one of the first things i'd do.
really would be awesome to see a water fix, i cant play that one whole campaign in l4d2 because of it pretty much.

I know what you mean but when it is me there talking to it's a bit different I s'pose. In the commentries, Gabe Newell invites people to email him - so I did. From the email I got, Gabe Newell clearly read my email but simply forwarded it to this guy called Jason. Jason seemed quite suprised, saying Valve had worked closely with nVidia. I guess they mustn't regulaly use their set of goggles...
However, he quickly offered a fix for the torch issue inherent in all Source games - if you shine a torch, whenever you are not super close to the wall, the illumation partially cuts off in one eye - only 1/4 of that one eye is effected so it is not really noticable. But anyway he quickly offered a solution: r_flashlightscissor 0
ATM this is seen as a cheat by the servers but the Valve man said it will be made into a non cheat in a future update. He did however say the water issue was more tricky but both Valve and nVidia were working on it.
Fully agree about L4D2 and the water, typically of Valve, they always show off their new features.
