Asus VG278HR + 2x VG278HE as 3D Vision Surround?
Hello everybody, recently I got VG278[b]HR[/b] monitor with built-in 3D Vision emitter, and I like it a lot, also got spare second pair of glasses so somebody could watch it with me at the same time. Question is - I would like to buy two more monitors for NVidia 3D Vision surround setup. And I'm not sure if it will work with two more VG278[b]HE[/b]. I would prefer to buy emitter-less side monitors because it would obviously save me some money, and I don't need two more spare glasses. I was reading that for 3D Vision Surround to work - I would need three exactly the same monitors, is it true? Also I don't know how different monitors are they in terms of colors, I would prefer for all three of them give similar picture quality. Will combination VG278[b]HR[/b] + 2x VG278[b]HE[/b] work? Or is it safer bet to go with 3x VG278[b]HR[/b]? Thanks for any suggestions!

Its hard to say. Like it would probably work in "normal" surround but in 3D surround its a huge risk. Each monitor is identified as a "particular" monitor. I don't think its a good idea. I don't think anyone tried it before. I would ask Helifax since he would know best. Its quite tricky.... Technically you need 3 of the exact same models to make it work. Now if you buy 3 monitors that have each and one of them built in emitters it will not work since the glasses will try to sync with each of them or something like that. There is an old thread regarding this (which is somewhere here on the forums) However it is possible to use 3 monitors with (built-in emitters) and do an EDID overwrite (if you are into driver "hacking" so to speak) Still it will not be guaranteed to work. Just a heads up though- your single 780 is probably going to be a problem. In Surround a single 780 will be OK, while having to turn down some effects. But in 3D Surround, you typically get half the frame rate you were getting. The scene is literally drawn twice, once for each eye, which doubles the GPU use of course. Depending upon a lot of other factors like CPU bottleneck, amount of RAM on video card, bus speeds, and on and on, it might not be that in all games. But I think that for some games you will very likely be unhappy with performance in 3D Surround. Lastly, since I'm the local projector pusher- you might consider a projector for the large screen gaming effect. Arguably not quite as good as Surround (partly better, partly worse), but not nearly as punishing on the hardware.

Hello everyone, thanks for your suggestions, I got myself two more VG278HR together with one active Display Port to DVI adapter. Just today setted it up, and tried few games (Sleeping Dogs, DeusEx HR, Assassins Creed 4, Titanfall). Everything works great (except few issues with AK and Titanfall), 3D Surround is amazing! Actually I expected much heavier impact on performance, I lowered few settings like AA and shadows, but apart from that runs like silk on a single Asus GTX 780 DirectCU II OC.
