L4D2 problem... 3d turning on and off forever
  1 / 2
When ever I try to play l4d2 in 3d it just keep turning on an off very fast whenever i turn 3d on. I don't know what is causing this. I tried searching but haven't found anyone explaining the same problem as mine.

Specs:

i7 980x @ 4.3ghz
3x gtx 285 ssc
win 7
2 ssd raid 0

I am completely puzzled.

On a side note: The same thing was happening when i was running the game on my 920. After i installed the 980x i did a complete reinstall of windows on new ssds... yet same problem... thx advance for help!

I am running latest drivers for both 3d and geforce!

Can you describe more about how the problem occurs?

1. You start Left 4 Dead 2
2. 3D Vision is on.
3. You launch game...?
4. 3D Vision goes off? Light on emitter is bright green?

**Hide 3d vision when game starts enabled**

I start l4d2
I find game
game loads
enable 3d vision: flicker on and off constantly until disabled. Also lose fps dramatically as u can imagine

emitter goes green, stays green...

3x sli enabled
physx disabled

Progress****

unchecked "hide 3d effect when game starts"

Problem still hella low fps... but the effect of 3d turning on and off constantly is removed... brb gonna turn fraps on to see what the count is.

Nope. My 3d vision would turn on and off within the monitor/game ... glasses work fine

vs off , no aa/af fps = 60 but wird flickering issue in game... not glasses.... tried reccomended setting and most possible combinations and nothing works. once i turn any AA on, the game falls directly to 30fps and below

wow, no one having probs like this?

UPDATE: Now have it running smooth when I turn SLI completely off. But of course the FPS is crapty...... what to do?

Also, the turning on and off of 3d vision effect is now gone with sli off.... i'm starting to think this is what i get for running 3x sli.... why nvidia, why?

If I turn sli back on... the only way it's even remotely playable is if i turn aa off completely... seems to be and AA prob... as far as i can tell that's causing the fps drop...

I think I might know what's causing your problem. It's SLI, but not regular SLI, 3x SLI. 3D Vision is not compatible with 3x SLi as far as I'm concerned. Try using only 2 x SLI GTX 285 and see if ti helps.

Quad SLI and 3X SLI should not work with 3D Vision as far as I know. Only 2X SLI works

I never had any problems with flickering playing L4D2, but I did have the same problem you are having in Call of Duty MW2. This bug is a bitch, hate it my guts.
But till this day I still don't know what was causing the flickering, I tried turning off SLI and it didn't help, nothing noticeable. Anyway I was able to play the game in 3D and finish it, this bug only appeared in a few scenes of the game and sometimes I had to finish the stage in 2D cause of the annoying flickering.

All other games I've played in 3D did not suffer from the same issue. I believe all of us had a similar problem within some game for sure. Drivers, different configs, new product that is not mainstream yet...

I also have a SLI system, but it's 2 x GTX 280, not 3. I play Left 4 Dead 2 with settings maximized and AA4x with an average of 45fps, really good. My CPU is a QX9650 at 3.8ghz, so I'm pretty sure your extreme core i7 and 2 GTX 285 can handle this game without any lagging.

ty for the heads up. I will remove a card and see what happens. I might just forgo the 3d for now until next driver and maybe see if that changes/fixes anything. It's annoying as hell I tell ya! Also in metro 2033, with sli enabled i get 1fps in 3d, no joke. With sli off, i get round 30-45 high settings dx9. It's pretty obvious that 3xsli and quadsli need some fixing!

Andrew how we doing on this?

Swifta, there's nothing wrong with SLI and 3D Vision. 3X SLI and Quad SLI are not compatible with 3D Vision period!!!! That's why you are getting those flickering lagging bugs. Remove a card and see what happens.
Metro 2033 is a 3D ready game, it works flawlessly with 3D Vision. Best graphics I've ever seen to date. Crysis Doesn't play well in 3D, so I guess Metro 2033 is the best I've seen.

If you are getting the same issue with Metro 2033 that's the reason, 3x SLI. Its not that it needs fixes, it's not compatible. 2x SLI GTX 285 will do just fine. Try it and see for yourself.

Don't play 2D man, it sucks. Metro 2033 and L4D2 are just amazing in 3D, if you play them in 2D you will miss out a lot of Wows, wow, wow...........

A bit off topic but... Does anyone know a way to disable water reflection/what ever causes you to see double images when looking at an object with water in the background?

Some levels are very difficult to play through seeing everything in drunkD-Vision.

Besides the Hard Rain stages L4D2 plays very well with 3D Vision. I would say you have to avoid the water stages in this game if you want to play in 3D. There's no way to get rid of this, the water's reflection renders in 2D, not 3D, that's why you get double image. It's a problem within the game itself not 3D Vision fault's.

Swifta, have you tried playing Metro 2033 and L4D2 with just 2 GTX 285 in SLI??? Did it work??
