Hi guys, decided to just post the question/scenario here before I commit to buying a second 3d vision kit.
I'd guess I started noticing the problem first during the prolonged gaming sessions of New Vegas, so back in October. The glasses would temporarily lose sync for a second then be fine for roughly 20 minutes (but it could be as short as 5 or as long as 40 before the next occurrence.. so its a bit random. Exact same problem whether the computer or GPU have overclocking applied or not. It definitely happens more when the glasses have been in use for 4+ hours (after a full recharge).
My setup is a bit different than the typical user: I'm using a 10 meter HDMI cable (spent over €100 on it, so its perfectly shielded and never drops, and has no interference or snow at all). The computer sits out in another room, but all the wires for USB devices run through a small hole in the wall, so that MAY be causing some sort interference but I highly doubt it.
The emitter sits 6ft away from the couch (and its connected to a second USB cable extender dealie in order to reach the computer..but I dont think that'd cause my issue..)
I've experimented with the different emitter settings in the 3d vision setup, and get an awful lot more dropping when its set to be compatible with other IR devices, so I just leave it at standard computer usage... I think that may be because of the distance. There ARE other IR devices in the room such as remote controls for the satellite box & the speakers, but they are never in use when the problem occurs.
The emitter has definitely got some bangs over the last year, so maybe its just dying on me. I've noticed some weird behavior lately such as when the 3d Vision Live site appeared, the emitter would indeed activate, but would refuse to deactivate once the browser had closed. I've also had the emitter decide to glow red last week when I started up a game, but the problem resolved itself on restart.
Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any feedback. In summary I think its either:

the emitter/glasses are dying

maybe an incompatibility with newer drivers

cable length issues

distance of emitter from glasses.
Definitely did not have this problem back in june when I replayed fallout 3.
My setup is:
i7 920 @ 3.7 ghz
6gb of DDR3 ram @ 2000mhz
2x 480 GTXs.
1200W PSU (so not a power issue I think)
--edit-- Using Acer H5360 projector.

Are using a 120hz , 3D Monitor or a 3D Television set. You say HDMI Cable, i assume then that you are using a tv set. Hve you charged up your 3d glasses. If you have played near 40 hrs ,then your glasses need to be recharged.

woops forgot to include the 3d part of the system!
Using an Acer H5360 Projector @ 1280x720 @ 120hz. Problem persists even when I use the in-projector system to select "Nvidia 3d vision" mode. Glasses are fully charged, but the problem becomes more apparent after 4 hours of use.
Fully charged yesterday. Played for 4 hours. Charged em again and it took 4 hours for them to charge (for the amber light to go away). The more research I do, the more it looks like a diminished battery life problem like the olden day iPods
