E-dimensional Glasses Your thoughts on the hardware.
I'm considering purchasing a pair of wireless e-dimensional glasses that will be used for 8 hours a day by many individuals. I have a few questions on the effectiveness and efficiency of the hardware.

First of all, I realize that 3D stereo adds depth to the image. Does it offer positive depth? Can I expect to load up Half-Life 2 and have projectile objects move past the barrier of the glass on my monitor? Will objects actually appear to "pop out" of the screen in every day games?

Secondly, can I expect the glasses to hold up under heavy usage? What do you think the lifetime of a single pair of glasses is? Think of irresponsible 12 year olds using the glasses every day. If not, is there a pair of glasses you have experience with that are made of higher quality materials?

Third, what happens if my angle of view of the screen is not centered? Does the depth perception become skewed?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Welcome revmouse, I've had my Ed-wireless system for 3 years now, I use them all the time and they are still going strong. I recently got the wireless Razor 3d system, for TV, with 2 pairs of glasses from e-bay for a little over $50 after shipping, the glasses work on my ED PC setup as well.

Yes you can expect some out of the screen effects; it all depends on the game.
In halflife2 after you get your suit and get on the transporter platform you will see some out of the screen there.

If you change your angle of view the effect will change with it.

I have seen one vendor selling the same glasses ED is selling for $20 a pair on E-bay but you will need a Dongle and IR transmitter. Good Luck

You might want to stock up on CR1620 batteries, they always come with dead batteries.

1. Dont expect that object will pop out of screen. It can be configured for that to happen, but you won't have depth and playing like that is less funn. "Normal" mode is that you'll have deapth inside of your monitor, like it is a deep box. It looks cool and it is easyer to play with
2. You HAVE to have CRT monitor with at least 100hz refresh rate for choosen resolution to play with. Forget LCD and 3D. Best choice to buy is Samsung 959NF - a 19" CRT with 120Hz@1240x960 and great picture quality. You can buy it cheap, used cca 100$
3. Glasses itself are of quality of child play glasses. You'll have be carefull with them... plastic polarized glass is easly scratched (like any other plastic) and easy to get dirty of fingerprints

Overall conclusion is that those glasses are great if you are an entusiast willing to spend time to learn about using glasses and playing with it every day, for long period (cause using glasses needs time to adjust on them, and stop using glasses even on short period like week needs adjusting over again. otherwise you'll have headacke, tired eyes and such)
I dont think it is a good gift for irresponsible 12yhr old child...
