Hi everyone,
maybe I have missed something, this thread is quite long already. ;-)
I have the following problem:
If I do a fresh install of 353.30, resetting everything, GTA V runs fine in 3D with my two GTX 970 in SLI.
But only once!
After that, 3D is broken forever, regardless what I try. There are just huge graphical glitches, it's completely useless.
So why does it work the first time?
How can I get GTA V running with 3DVision AND SLI?
Thanks for your time.
I have the same problem with driver 353.30 and 3D working only the first time and I don't know what driver I can use since I have a 980 Ti .
That broken after first try sounds exactly like a cache that got stuffed with something wrong. Works first pass, then somehow something bad is cached.
Not sure this would be the driver cache or something else. Experiment around, try disabling driver level shader cache as a start.

After update v1.28 from Rockstar, which clearly didn't resolve any 3D issues at all, I've re-opened my support ticket, and shall relay anything that's worth mentioning.

Now I tried the 353.49 Hotfix drivers, pretty much same problem. On both this driver and the previous WHQL driver, I can get 3D to work only in a window by alt-enter and then the game renders the 3D but now I have a different problem. The shadows from the trees are rendered in different eyes for both the left and right eyes so those are now broken. If I play the game in full-screen, the game is rendered in blue and purple. As soon as I alt-enter the screen into a window, the 3D looks correctly displayed again.
Take into account I am using line-interleaved, so I can play in a window.
The interesting aspect is the GTA V menu when playing in a window says 3D is turned off, but it's not turned off when I run the game since I am running in 3D. It thinks that 3D is not supposed to work in a window.
Also, I see a bug from Max Payne 3 that carries over to this game. When I change resolution while playing in 3D, the left and right eye will flip each time I change the resolution. I had this bug back when I played Max Payne 3 three years ago so it looks like Rockstar's previous code is still being used in this game even with these problems.

The same ! I still get the crash after a few minutes playing despite the yesterday big Rockstar Patch :-(. I'm so desperate to continue playing the game in 3D ...
Rockstar Support talk about "nvwgf2umx.dll" error or reinstalling the operating system (win 8.1).
Do you think it's linked ? I'm not sure ... I've plenty of 3D games that work fine ...
Could we hope a solution by nvidia ?
Rockstar confirm that the game will not be Windows 10 compatible ...
Any help welcome :-)

Unfortunately R* support is totally useless. I call them (to their face) support-bots because they don't do anything you couldn't write a program to do. It's just randomly try things from a list of options. Totally lame. Their goal appears to be to just close tickets as fast as possible, or make it so annoying that you stop responding.
The nvwgf2umx crash is a part of the NVidia driver, but the actual problem is them leaking memory. You can watch the memory creep up over time if you use the stability challenge test.
I ran today for about 5 hours without any crashes or 3D dropouts. It's a bit random still, but it is possible to make it quite a bit better in terms of crashes. You want to put settings lowish, especially stuff that takes video ram. It's actually regular memory that leaks, but it's allocated in regular memory before being sent to the video card.
I think. Your system may be different, better or worse. ToThePoint can run very well, with an older driver and a lot of settings cranked up. I can run very well with 350.12 driver, and settings on the low side.
If you want to find out what works on your system, run the stability challenge and experiment with the settings.

All of my games, except for one or two which are driver specific, work perfectly well using my old driver on my current setup on Win 7 and Win 8.0. So no, it's very unlikely that it has anything to do with your own system, even though Rockstar might say otherwise. As bo3b mentioned, it's the exact same NVidia driver file that appears in the event log. Although I think NVidia could certainly do more to make it function better on newer drivers, I'd say the ball is firmly in Rockstar's court, where it always has been, when it comes to GTA V working properly in 3D. Given my own findings, in my view they've allowed Microsoft updates to compromise the game's 3D stability, which really hasn't helped matters. It could make fixing things all the more complicated.
In the meantime, I've made reference to my own Stability Challenge results in my support ticket to them, so I'll wait and see what their response is.

Totally agree with that point of view ... I repeat that to Rockstar support, in vain .... tired to explain always the same but I'm still hoping a solution by Rockstar

I have serious trouble with 3D Vision. Sometimes everything works perfectly, but most times everything is broken. As this screenshot shows, the 3D is only "streamed" to one eye:
I tried many different graphic settings. Uninstalled all graphics drivers in windows safe mode and used the Programm DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) afterwards, then installed the newest drivers (353.30). In other games there are no issues (e.g. Counter Strike Global Offensive) i don't know what else i can try. I spent the whole freetime of my day to try to get it to work, but without success. I am helpless now :(

I just want to confirm this as a fix for me too. I had the same exact issue, and turning off shader cache in Nvidia control panel fixed it for me.
Maybe this can be added to the OP?
Thanks!

@TURDxSANDWICH, thx! This worked for me, now the 3D is not messed up anymore! :)
But i have another problem, which i also had before i turned shader cache off.
GTA V crashes after playing 20 minutes in 3D!! Is there a fix for this?
I tried to create a ticket in rockstar support center, but the button for sending the ticket does not work. It seems like they deactivated the button over the weekend, to prevent a massive flood of support tickets. I tried it with firefox and chrome. There is also no link showing up on the bottom left, if you hover over the button with your mouse.

Just installed GTA 5 and tested.
Tested different settings suggested in this thread with 780 SLI @ 3D Surround and driver 350.12
Runs a few minutes perfect and suddenly 3D breaks.

Isn´t it possible to create your own 3D Vision fix for GTA5?
You modded for example Witcher 3 two days after release and this Alpha fix works nearly perfect. That was fantastic work again as you always do ... I wish that we could throw this damm developer 3D Vision out of box shit away and you could do your own 3D Vision GTA 5 fix.

@ronrebell
You can easily fix the 3D dropping out by pausing the game, and going into settings. Toggle VSync on/off or switch the refresh rate. This will have 3D kick in again.
And there is no need for the modders to work on this game. None of the 3D effects are "broken". Its actually quite a gorgeous 3D game when you can get a nice stretch of playtime in. There are just issues with either the engine, drivers, or both. The modders can't really do too much to help with that, other than leave the tips and tricks that are listed in this thread.

Bo3b's School for ShaderHackers

Thanks!

Tested different settings suggested in this thread with 780 SLI @ 3D Surround and driver 350.12
Runs a few minutes perfect and suddenly 3D breaks.
@modders:

@ronrebell
