Suggested driver to use?
  1 / 8
I'd like to solicit opinions on which drivers are the least terrible of our current choices. My go to driver is 320.49, when I grow weary of playing the glitches game. But I can't use it when I need ShadowPlay to record videos. Can anybody suggest a driver version that seems to have the fewest problems, and supports ShadowPlay? Nice idea. Like you, though, I jump back to 320.49 if I have real problems. It stands out among all drivers for stability and compatibility (but of course not having any of the new stuff). I've not installed 344.11 yet so I will definitely give it a miss. I've found 350.52 to be good as well (I don't have watch dogs stuttering that I have noticed, but I have not played nearly as much as you yet).

What an excellent idea. Kind of hoping someone would mention this topic. Learnt the hard way not to download newer drivers unless absolutely necessary. Haven't updated the graphics drivers since I got my current rig. I've long since applied the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" approach. Everything's stable and working, touch wood. 331.82 (Win 7) 331.82 (Win 8.1)

Very good to get alternate viewpoints on different drivers. It's always possible there are some nuances to a given PC setup that make things noticeably worse. @necropants: are you seeing stutter when dragging windows? I especially noticed this when dragging windows from one monitor to another.

No, I am seeing none of that. I have a EVGA GTX 780 2x SLI configuration running on a surround setup as well. One thing I will say however. I found my Antivirus was causing issues in some games so I switch it off for the time being when playing them. (Diablo 3 for example) I also make sure I force Global Vsync to (Smooth) in the control panel on games else I was getting some microstutter.

I have thought several times why not to be kind of a "Bible 3d Blog" or something (like the Helix one concerning 3D patches), if it does not exist (I really do not know if), to inform (specially to new people) about every tricks and tips concerning 3D, without having to gather slowly the different information in the forums. I mean like a clear recopilation of everything concerning Nvidia 3D experience but well classified and easy to find, without the necessity to find in older posts of a forum the response to your questions (supposing you are aware of these questions that may improve your experience). One example: if you have a 3D beamer (I have Acer H5360) you will see that the Depth is very low compared with a normal 3D monitor. I remember there was a way to increase it using a simple and editable "bat" file. That is a problem not resolved by any recent Nvidia driver (as far as I know). I think that the Bible would also put in alert Nvidia about the real problems of their drivers, since they are all listed in a popular site very aeasy to find. If I am wrong and there is already a site like that, please, let me know.

It should be interesting to know which drivers are Helix/3Dmigoto compatible. I tried to upgrade to last version today (344.60) and found that most of the fixed shaders of my "Rise of flight" Helix fix were flashing....(I am a SLI of 2 660 Ti user). I did not follow news until the 331 broke the Helix compatibilty. Am I stuck forever to 320.49 drivers for DX9 games ? Did I miss some information to ensure Helix mod compatibility with older driver versions ?

344.66 driver keeps on crashing for me kernel crash or the game crashes. Windows is still working but keyboard+ mouse is very sluggish. Can't click the damn close program button. Games that manifest this: Lords of the Fallen, Ryse Son of Rome the ones that I noticed. 344.48, 344.11, 344.16 Same as 344.60. Basically everything in branch 344 is FUCKED UP... not only on desktop but on laptops as well....
