Beyerdynamic 990DT Pro + SBX +3D Vision 2

That was the easy part.

Now the question: Expensive gaming monitor or projector?
Games of my choice will be mostly single player, probably star citizen like crazy(never tried it),maybe even FPS shooter, Battlefield 1, project reality.

Normally I was nearly to take the BenQ w1700 / HT550.(I have roomspace like crazy, 4m screen np...better less)
I read everything, watched all videos there are about that projector.

Here is my dilemma:
I know gaming on a huge screen and projector, especially in 3D will blow everything away,...true? as long as you don't play FPS-online.
Or take a expensive gaming monitor.
QUESTION 0: Gaming on projector+3d that much better than Monitor+3D?

QUESTION 1:
"How is gaming with 50ms?? Is it like I said: single player/online?
Maybe a fast 1080p projector?- I think I can't stand seeing pixels! so 4k..with 50ms.
I tried on a other monitor sf27f350
diff response time settings. normal-fast-fastest,..and the difference was big for me. I guess there where 20ms between the settings,...so 50ms sounds crazy, and not really like fun.

Monitor I think on a PG278QR:
My Gaming monitor should be 144hz 2k...G-sync seems to be worth it.

QUESTION 2:
(pretty sure I won't like ghosting)
Is it really the best 3D Gaming monitor? - I have no problem hacking my system, to do override stuff, like I read here all the time.
It's not on the lists of best gaming monitors anymore, but probably a safe bet in regards to 3D?

QUESTION 3:

QUESTION 4:

The PG278QR is pretty expensive.

There's been talk of new projectors releasing that might do 1080P or 1440P at 120Hz. You would be better holding off for one of these, but they will not be cheap. 2560x1440P is pretty sweet for 3D gaming on a monitor, the pixel density is great and games look incredible. Performance can be an issue in newer games at this resolution though. 4K is too demanding imo, unless you want to run SLI. I've only used 4K 2D, but it has to be gorgeous in 3D.

Thx for response. The BenQ w1700 can do 1080p 120hz!!?? Under 2000$? I meant that I will play on 4k-2D, if game is not 3D or broken. Just wondering what the best 3D experience is, projector or monitor? especially considering the input lag. (Immersion on projector is way better I guess)

Once you go 3D you will not go back, yes even competitively. I play tekken Competitively maybe one of the hardest games to do so, and I am convinced 3D actually gives me an advantage. I can see where moves are going to land and avoid them, it makes spacing so much easier because the game is in a true 3d space. Unsure about shooters but I think I play better in 3d there too, and as for driving it just not even debatable. I think PG278QR is the best option at this time. Masterotaku (and myself) seems reasonably satisfied with it and he is picky. Unsure about projector input lag but the Asus is about as minimal as you can ask for. If you are concerned about input lag Id wager you might be in monitor territory only. Someone correct me if I am wrong. However make sure you can pair it was a monster graphics card and even preferably SLI if you want to play max graphics in the 60fps ballpark at 1440p. Some people here are tolerant of lower frame rates, I am not one of them. If you think this might be an issue then go for a 1080p screen. Also not sure about 4k options at this time, but in theory you could run one at 1080 without the image degradation due to it scaling down 1:1 Also warning. Star citizen I heard was changing to Vulcan, if it is not already so it won't work with 3dvision I don't think. That aside I dont think it ever worked properly anyway

4k is awsome Yes but still i would say 3d@1080p is still hands down 10 times awsome. No going back to 2D Atleast for me. QM you Are asking hard questions. Its almoust all a personal preference. Dual projector rig is the umtilate setup but its gonna cost you 2 projectors plus Atleast 1500-2000 On top of projectors. There is no flicker and other benefits but its like cruiseship. Hard to turnaround but still worth the trouble many times.

I'm doing Dual-projectors as well. It is in my opinion the best way to experience 3D under current available technology. It is the most expensive though.
QUESTION 1: "How is gaming with 50ms?? Is it like I said: single player/online? Maybe a pair of fast 1080p projector?- I think I can't stand seeing pixels! so 4k..with 50ms. I guess there where 20ms between the settings,...so 50ms sounds crazy, and not really like fun.
I have old school Epson projectors from a time before heavy image processor treatment, their response time was measured by one (old) website at about 21ms flat (no special "gaming mode"). In addition, I play using a wireless mouse and keyboard. - Logitech performance mx (because I like big fat and thick mice) - Logitch K800 (because it's the only keyboard I found with both wireless and rear-illumination for playing in the dark) It's clearly not the tightest gaming environment, no one in their right mind would call this competitive worthy hardware, but find and enjoy playing from the couch a lot. I play adventure games, platform games and shooters (played a lot of warframe, it was fun), MMOs (has a great tim with Guild Wars 2, haven't touched it since heart of thorns), etc... Basically any game with a deep perspective is very satisfying in 3D. Top/down games can look funny when you force the perspective to make characters pop-out like toys standing on a table, but usually there are too many problems with the interface (mouse interactions with objects far into depth). The game needs a very rigid and steep camera angle with the interaction plane at a fixed distance to be enjoyed. (I loved playing Diablo 3 in 3D, but I can't stand playing Cities Skylines or Planet Coaster in 3D) Playing in the couch is definitely a more relaxed way of playing than at a desk though.
QUESTION 3: 1080p Dual projector setup for less than 1500€? or is only 720p possible? I can choose the fastest 3D projectors,..under 20ms possible?
The big advantage of dual-projectors is that you can choose any 2D projector you want. So if you find a 2D projector you like, you can buy a pair of them and build a dual-projector setup. However, 1500$ will be very tight budget for dual-projectors. You'll have to do a lot of compromises. First unavoidable stuff before even considering the projectors : since Tridef is slowly dying, a 3D Vision capable demultiplexer is going to be a must for gaming compatibility. You'll need at least a VNS Geobox 303. A Geobox 501/601 has an aditionnal displayport option for easier software configuration, and image warp for easier setup especially since you'll be using the cheapest projectors without lens shift, but is more expensive. You'll also need a 3D Vision usb emitter (acts as an unlock key for Generic CRT mode in the 3D Vision driver). Ideally, we would want full-SBS output support (3840x1080) Tridef has it, iZ3D used to have it, but not 3D Vision. In terms of filters/screen, you'd need to go the much cheaper route with the Omega filters system. It's an ultra-low crosstalk system (the lowest you can get with passive tech) and does not need a special screen (no need for silverscrens, you can use any white surface like a simple clean white wall) but it has a few drawbacks : The filters are reflective, meaning any ambient light in the room will cause significant amount of reflections in the lenses (you'll see the white of your own eyes). If your room is white, you'll get reflection issues (wearing a cap helps, but it's ridiculous and adds another thing on your head on top of the glasses and the headphones, it starts getting heavy). The second issue is unpreditabile colour accuracy (consumer projectors with UHP lamps and ultra-sharp notch colour filters don't mix well). You'll get a better probability of success with DLP projectors with the widest colour wheels possible. You'll have a higher chance of colour accuracy with RGBCMY colour wheel to RGBRGB wheel, however, nothing can save you from the lack of deep red light of UHP lamps. (the red colour is usually not accurate with Omega and consumer projectors) Once you have that, you'll probably be left with less than 1000$ for the projector set, so you'd be aiming for sub 500$ beamers. Some exist, but you won't get state of the art images from such a low budget. In my opinion, there are 3 main reasons for choosing dual-projectors : #1 - Passive picture (easier on the eyes due to lack of flicker, simultaneous view, no battery in the glasses) #2 - Control over the projector's firmware (projectors run in 2D mode, all fireware features are available to you, no locked features, less input lag) #3 - 1080p60Hz input... and more ... because it's 2018 and there is still no consumer 3D projector with this highly requested feature. I've been doing it since day one (2010) with my dual-pj system. Restricting yourself to sub 500$ 720p projectors means you're throwing reasons #2 and #3 away. In my opinion, it's not worth it.
QUESTION 6: Or is competive in 3D even advisable? feels like 2D is better?? not sure about this. If it's ok 3D competive, than I will better take the PG278QR.
If you play in 3D, you'll perfectly be able to play competitive games, defeat other players and win. But if you're into "competition", you want EVERY edge possible, and 3D is a clear disadvantage for shooters (aiming sights) and mobas (2D mouse interactions with 3D world). In addition to the lower framerate (60HZ capped and extra CPU/GPU ressource drains). One very important thing you need to know about 3D is that YOU CANNOT SWITCH INSTANTLY FROM 3D TO 2D. When you play a game in 3D your brain learns to navigate the image in 3D. When you switch back to 2D, your brain is confused and tries to move your eyes into the 3D depth and fails (because you're playing on a 2D screen). There will be a period where you have difficulties watching the 2D screen and be totally incapable of competitive play. The duration varies depending on the camera style of the game (high depth perspective games such as 1st and 3rd person shooters/adventure, and top/down camera games such as management/strategy), but also the graphic style of the game (cartoony / stylistic / realistic). It even happens when switching from watching a 3D movie to IRL. The duration depends on how closely related the visual situation and action is. For example, I can play a few hours of a shooter game in 3D, and 5 minutes later switch to cities skylines in 2D no problem. (enough just the time to take a coffee break, and set up my desk) But the very next day, try an other shooter and all of a sudden it takes me 10 minutes to watch the picture. Try to play the same shooter I always play in 3D but this time in 2D, and it may take me an hour to get rid of that dizziness.
I'm doing Dual-projectors as well.
It is in my opinion the best way to experience 3D under current available technology.
It is the most expensive though.

(enough just the time to take a coffee break, and set up my desk)
But the very next day, try an other shooter and all of a sudden it takes me 10 minutes to watch the picture.
Try to play the same shooter I always play in 3D but this time in 2D, and it may take me an hour to get rid of that dizziness.

I have not seen the projectors version of 3d and that might be better in the new releases. For now though I would vote for a 1440p 3d monitor until something better is ready. 1080p is fine but when your used to 1440p 1080 looks terrible.
I think PG278QR is the best option at this time. But also unhappy with it, like myself, due to the back lighting that it uses. Which is by no means a deal breaker, I paid $375 for it around Black Friday, two years ago. The PG278QR is the superior monitor, if you can justify the hefty price tag. Edit: my bad, he replaced his Dell with the Asus :)
QUESTION 0: Gaming on projector+3d that much better than Monitor+3D?
I don't know about this. Currently you'd be limited to 720p 60fps or 1080p 24fps, using a projector. But they have other advantages. Crosstalk and contrast, I guess?
QUESTION 2: (pretty sure I won't like ghosting) Is it really the best 3D Gaming monitor? - I have no problem hacking my system, to do override stuff, like I read here all the time. It's not on the lists of best gaming monitors anymore, but probably a safe bet in regards to 3D?
Once it has warmed up, it's the best 1440p monitor for sure. Although I haven't tried its new curved equivalent. I had the Dell S2716DG and it was a lot worse. For 1080p, I had the BenQ XL2411Z. It was fine, but showed a checkerboard pattern (due to pixel inversion). In the case of the PG278QR, it has vertical scanlines, but less annoying than the S2716DG.
QUESTION 5: Would it be worth to spent the 100€ more on PG278QR just to have the 3D option, instead of a bigger ultrawide like the AOC Agon AG352UCG?
The PG278QR can reach 165Hz while the AOC Agon AG352UCG only 100Hz, if that matters to you. But the Asus is TN and the AOC is VA, which would be better for movies.
QUESTION 6: Or is competive in 3D even advisable? feels like 2D is better?? not sure about this. If it's ok 3D competive, than I will better take the PG278QR.
In 3D it's harder to have a good crosshair to aim correctly (a dynamic 3D one is perfect, in games that have it). Imagine yourself aiming with a gun in real life without a crosshair. If you aim to the front and the gun is in the middle of your body, you can't make a straight "eye->gun->target" line. A good at-depth crosshair helps a lot, and seeing in 3D can make you measure distances a lot better. To sum up, the cheapest route to have the highest resolution 3D is just buying a 1440p 3D monitor, like the Asus PG278QR. There are 4K TVs with 3D, but you lose half the resolution, so the total of pixels is just a bit higher than what the Asus monitor has. Apart from not having (from what I've been told) motion blur reduction techniques in 3D and games needing the performance to generate 2 full 4K frames. If there were 1440p or higher resolution projectors, I would consider them. But 720p is too low for me even if they excel in other areas. For example, it's a night and day difference in FFXV.

Quantummagic - as another (more expensive) alternative, some of us in this forum REALLY like our 4k passive 3D OLED displays. If you can still find a LG 55C6, 55E6, 65C6, or 65E6 - you should really try to get it. The quality of the display matches your new build. I have completed MANY combat intensive (control-lag sensitive) games like Dark Souls 3 and The Surge, and I never found the E6's approx. 34 msec lag to be an issue. For a good setup guide, I suggest starting here - https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/943900/3d-vision/search-information-about-edid-for-3dvision-on-lg-oled-4k-55ef950v-55ef9500-/post/5069058/#5069058.

I've tried 2 PG278QR and returned both because crosstalk was worse than my current BenQ XL2420TX. You can find a previous thread of mine here with a link to pics. I've build a new rig and really wanted to get 1440p 3D and keep the XL2420TX for the second computer. Unfortunatly, even if the PG278QR seems to be an obvious choice when reading here, I believe it's because current owners didn't have a BenQ before to compare so to them the 3D is great. Don't get me wrong, in some situation it is, but in others it is not and I could simply not buy worse than my current BenQ so today 3 months later with a powerful new rig I'm still playing on my BenQ and I'm frustrated because I don't know what else to buy. There is the PG27VQ but it is expensive and my feeling is that if it's still use the ASUS hardware to process 3D then it won't be any better.

I prefer my Asus 1080p 144 Hz 3D Vision monitor over my Benq w700 3D 720p projector with a 4m screen. I've tried Uncharted and Crash Bandicoot Trilogy (PS4 Pro) on a high-end OLED TV with HDR and 4K, but the lag was ridiculously high and basically made both games completely unplayable for me. As for playing competitively, 3D on an ASUS monitor probably isn't the best choice for the FPS genre, but it works just fine for PVP in World of Warcraft. I still use my Sony PVM CRT monitors for all the classic 2D stuff from the '90s, so input lag is an absolute no go for me. Also, you can't activate G-Sync and 3D Vision simultaneously.

If nobody does the rabbit, we will never find the better 3D display... I've said that about 20 times now, but people are so lazy, it's only 4 shots meaning 10 mins, 15 tops.
