Adjusting Convergence in a game Everything you wanted to know.
Hi All

I really want to get to the bottom of any misconceptions anyone has about convergence. So I want to do a few things.

1. I have written a KB article on it which describes how to adjust convergence with hotkeys or using the emitter. http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2943 I have also listed which games prevent you from adjusting convergence. In these cases, the game developer prevented convergence adjustment in their game for artistic or otherwise reasons. There is no "hack" to make it work.

2. Anyone who is still having convergence problems, please post them here. I would like to know the following:
- Game
- GPU
- Driver
- Hotkeys you are using or how you are trying to adjust convergence.

Thanks again.

Alternatively, you can use the 3D Vision USB IR Emitter to adjust convergence by holding down the On/Off button and then adjusting the depth wheel on the back of the emitter. Didn't realise this /thanks.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thanks:' />. Appreciate the update with regards to what games have developer locked convergence settings. Maybe some don't realise the 3D limitations game developers place on their software, and how they wanted you to see "TWIMTBP".

If developers decide to lock convergence, may I suggest you advice them to include a convergence slider in-game. It is really unfortunate that they decide to do this. /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' />

Why are you bumping it Andrew, can't you just make it a sticky? Plus Fuchibot has a point about developers locking convergence. Convergence on a 23" screen wouldn't be the same when viewed on a 50" plasma or even a 150" dlp. It should be adjustable with a simple way of reverting back to default settings.

Yes, we are already working on that.

The only major problems I have with convergence are as mentioned above, some games lock the setting so it can't be adjusted and also that you have to specifically enable them in the NVCP as they are hidden by default. Personally I would like to see the functionality enabled by default and a better explanation/tutorial demo that demonstrates how and why you would want to adjust Convergence and how it changes what you see in 3D. Its frustrating to have to constantly re-enable the advanced keyboard shortcuts to enable Convergence settings after a new driver installation. I'd also like to see some kind of on-screen indicator similar to Depth to show how much incremental adjustment has been made.

I'm not really sure why these features aren't exposed by default, its not really saving us from ourselves because not adjusting these settings for some games with changes to Depth results in a poor 3D experience. I would go as far as to say adjusting Convergence is the single most important compatibility tweak for a good 3D Vision experience in a wide variety of games, particularly titles that have 2D screen elements or 2D cursors/crosshairs. I can't count how many times I've seen posts here and elsewhere complaining about 3D compatibility being completely broken or being underwhelming in general only to find out the user did not know how to adjust Convergence or how it could make their 3D Vision experience better.

Another suggestion that I think is great (credit goes to WallyG from another thread)

"And gonna throw it out there, if there was some way to save / load presets... I'm just thinking how many games I've played where "the action" has the camera panned out far, and dialogue scenes up close... might be nice to hit a button and have it jump to a second saveable/changeable convergence setting... just throwin' it out there... "
jump to a second saveable/changeable convergence setting
This would be really useful for flight sims such as Rise of Flight as the in-cockpit view needs a different convergence from the external view.
