Coming from 3D Vision, what are your impressions of the Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive?

I will actually try a CV1 next week (from a friend) and see it for myself, but from what I read and saw I already know what it will look like:)
(Not talking about the sense there you "in-there" but about the QUALITY of reproducing the Virtual world which is translated in pixels ^_^)
Would love to hear your thoughts on it mate. Try some proper VR games like Luckey's tale, and Eve: Valkyrie, see what you think of games made for VR rather than VorpX :)
Yeah same here, I'd like to hear your feedback on the CV1 experience Helifax.
I'm leaning to purchasing the CV1 later this year perhaps, there delayed anyways until August/September and I'm interested in whether CV1 will be comparable to RoomScale as is the Vive once the touch controllers come out. Based on the current reviews, the CV1 seems to be better designed for comfort and I can't imagine myself playing long sessions in a helmet anyways.
I'd purchase it knowing fully well not to expect too much but I am interested in the experimental aspect of VR technology. I think it might be good for only specific games, especially cockpit style. I would be happier if the VR technology would hurry up an progress...lol....but I have a ton of games to still play in 3D Vision plus it's summer and I'd rather the reality experience of playing my favorite thing to do which is futbol!

I don't have VR - am slightly interested but need a more powerful GPU first.
One thing that holds me back is that it only really works with a first person perspective and (other than arcadey racers and space dogfight style games) I don't really care for first person game play. I mostly enjoy 3rd person action adventure style gaming. Oddworld with 3d vision enabled looks spectacular, for instance, but wouldn't work with VR.
So, without trying VR, I think I would prefer stereoscopic 3d just because it is suited to a wider style of game types. I also hate any active shutter tech as it gives me a headache - what I think would be really good is a curved autostereoscopic OLED, providing immersion for a wide variety of game types without the need for glasses.

That is a commin misconception. VR works great with a great number of non-first person styles. In fact, the main launch game from Oculus themselves, bundled fee with the rift, is 3rd person!

Here is a great stratey game on top-down mode too...

Windows 10 64-bit, Intel 7700K @ 5.1GHz, 16GB 3600MHz CL15 DDR4 RAM, 2x GTX 1080 SLI, Asus Maximus IX Hero, Sound Blaster ZxR, PCIe Quad SSD, Oculus Rift CV1, DLP Link PGD-150 glasses, ViewSonic PJD6531w 3D DLP Projector @ 1280x800 120Hz native / 2560x1600 120Hz DSR 3D Gaming.
I have the Vive since a few days and for me it's amazing, and I really believe VR is the future. Also room scale and controllers add so much to the experience, almost as much as the headset itself. The ability to walk and interact directly is far more engaging than seated VR imho, and Vive tracking is just perfect.
Screen door is a strange beast, it's annoying when you use the headset for the first time but once in a game you really forget about it. I think that games that have a lot of details in the distance will suffer from SDE but for most games you just accept it. SDE simply was so bad in DK2 it killed the immersion for me, but now I can really forget about it.
When VR works, it's just mindblowing the feeling of presence, it really feels you're there, you fear the heights, believe that npcs are real beings and you have to be careful not to drop controllers on virtual tables and things like that. But like any new hardware, high quality software is lacking. In that sense 3d vision has still a place since there's so much great content available, but 3d vision will never get the level presence that VR brings imho.
I can't wait until Vorpx arrives for Vive, shouldn't be long apparently, and check some games in full VR. DK2 was great with Vorpx but SDE was always there killing the immersion that VR brings, I can't wait to try some games like Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite etc in VR and see how they look now with better FOV and SDE.

Shhhhh. Blasphemer! ;P
You're making waves you know, don't rock the boat!
Sounds like you like it birthright, I just hope I feel the same.
My vive comes tomorrow. I can't wait!

Not even sure how but in games with hardware mouse it will replace with a software mouse which will be depth accurate since depth buffer. I only tried a few but it was pretty awesome.
That is interesting, regarding the mouse. I wonder how he does that;)
Funny thing is the 3D Vision Drivers kind of have the functionality already in them, I was able to get a hardware cursor to split 'varyingly' along depth but unfortunately the glasses wouldn't block/sync it correctly... I didn't put too much time into after that but the basic fundamental is in there.

FOV is absolute shit on these VR headsets. Going to wait for CV2 gen (or maybe longer) until FOV gets better. Until then, triple 27" 3D is king. Can't wait to update them to 1440P (3x Dell S2716DG).

Maybe they might work on some cards, but clearly not something we could rely on.
I have plans to add a software mouse cursor to 3DMigoto (custom shader injection was one piece we need, but there's more needed to get the mouse position, hide the hardware cursor, etc), and eventually whatever solution we end up using to complement Helix Mod in DX9 (or Helix Mod itself if Helix is willing to open source it), but this is all quite a while off before I'll have time to work on it.
