Vision 3D top of screen severe ghosting
after going through their support system, I was recommended I contact their support team to get a new cable....I more want to hear whether any of you decided to play around with different dvi-d cables and if you were able to get rid of the ghosting as a result of that. I think what I'm going to do is, just wait to see what viewsonic has to say about this, and if they blame it on nvidia, then I'll just go ahead and return this vision kit. If they RMA my monitor (I feel that's highly unlikely, but you never know) or give me a chance to get a new cable, I'll go ahead and give this vision kit one more shot before my 30 days are up for retuning this thing for a full refund.
So I really cannot see how a cable could solve a timing refresh problem in any way... DVI is a digital signal - there is no cross talk whatsoever and even if we would talk crosstalk (what we do not, mind) we would talk about crosstalk within one frame - the ghosting however is appliyng to frames being transmitted successively. Now can a cable delay a signal or store it in it internal guts at a level it would interfere with a digital signal transmitted more than 8ms later? I think anyone with even the slightest understanding of physics can give the correct answer and if Viewsonioc supports tells you so better tell them to revisit grammar school...
Also, albeit a naughty problem evident only with 3DVision enabled it is a problem of the display not the glasses - no matter how hard they push to pass the ball... the review of the Acer at 3Dvision blog has shots that compare the Acer with the Viewsonic side by side with clear evidence that the Acer fares way better - so who dares to tell it is aproblem with the glasses then? I'd pass that on to the Viewsonic support and better return the monitor instead - ther is no way this monitor will do any better with different glasses. On a side note to that, all manufacturers showing 3D ready TVs at CES concluded unisono that 240Hz with blank frame insertion was the route to take for best experience, make an educated guess why so...

Hello, I know I'm new here..

I just acquired a Alienware OptXTM AW2310 3D, 23" 1080p 120hz monitor, and the 3D vision.

And I'm as well having the same issue, top of the screen has little or no depth to it unless i really focus hard on it. Its quite distracting, its really bad in WoW, but not so much in other FPS.

I was also very very disappointed at Bio shock 2 support, it has almost zero depth to it.

Since Andrew seems to be more actively on the forum at the moment I'd like some word on this longstanding issue. I can't play any game at more than 25% depth as the double image at the top of the screen is so distracting. Is the sync timing adjustment such a hard thing to implement?

I bought 3D vision and an Alienware 23" monitor on monday.
I have tested quite a few games . I too get ghosting on some games but yet some games work fine, so i dont thinks its a hardware issue because then would not all games have ghosting ?

Here are some games i tested.

Avatar - Brilliant except i get around 18-20fps in 3D.
Far Cry 2 - Perfect, turn off ingame crosshair.
Resident evil 5 - Perfect.
NWN 2 - Excellent except for 2D pointer.
Gothic 3 - Excellent except 2D Crosshair if you use a bow or crossbow.
Napolean Total War - Almost Perfect but icons for troops are 2D and mouse pointer is 2D.
Men of war - Almost Perfect but again icons and pointer are 2D.
Supreme Commander 2 - Almost perfect but icons and pointer are 2D and some objects give you slight double vision until you build on them.
Dark Void - Almost Perfect except for 2D crosshair.
Risen - Total rubbish everything is ghosting, the walls, the trees, the characters etc. Unplaybale in 3D as you get sore eyes after 15mins.
Batman Arkham Asylumn - Pretty Good but i have to turn of dydnamic shadows as they loook very glarey and super imposed on the background, very slight ghosting aswell.
Mass effect 2 - Turn off ingame crosshair, use nvidia laser sight, turn off dydnamic shadows as that makes the ghosting seem a whole lot worse, but you still get slight ghosting.
Bio Shock 2 - Almost perfect, some minor ghosting but not too bad.
Dragon age origins - Pretty good in 3D but Player icons only render in 1 eye and pointer is 2D.
Turok - Would be excellent except for the 2D crosshair (which you cant turn off) that gives you double vision when you aim at anything and theres a lot of 2D grass.

Hope this helps to set up some games, i will test more when i get round to it. I have also tried everything i can think off to get rid of this ghosting but no success, i think its something to do with lighting effects on some games. BTW Setting the dynamic contrast to off on the monitor did nothing. ;) Also the more depth you use the more ghosting you get and vice versa.

Double Vision.
If you are getting double vision then you have too much depth and you are sitting too close to your screen. I set my depth for games at 30% and im sitting 36" from my screen. I can set the depth to 100% but then i have to sit on the sofa which is about 5ft away from the screen.

Flicker.
I tried playing games at 120hz but get lots of flicker every 5 or 10 secs (uber bright flashes).
At 110hz i get the odd flash maybe every 10 to 20 secs, and at 100hz i rarely get any bright flashes. Its funny though because i can do the nvidia test at all refresh rates and get no flashes at all.

I must say £550 for the setup is a lot of cash to pay for a kit with a lot of flaws. But some games do work perfectly and look 1000x better, so i think its money well spent, but it would be nice if someone from nvidia could figure out this ghosting issue and why i cant run games in 3D at 120HZ without getting bright flashes in my eyes, thanks.

What CPU and GPU(S), OS and drivers are you using and at what resolution are you running?
I also get a choppy 20-30fps in Avatar.

Well i haven't upgraded my pc properly for the last few years, but here's my system.

Windows 7 - DX11
gfx/3d driver 196.21
E6600 core 2 duo 2.4gig
Evga GTX260 FTW
Corsair 4gig Dominator pc2-8500 c5
Abit IN9-32X Max
Enermax Pro 82+ 625W

Think thats most of it :) and i play avatar at 1920x1080 full gfx and get around 18-20fps for the most part, although it does go up to around 25fps sometimes.
Far Cry 2 - Perfect, turn off ingame crosshair.
Did some further testing on far cry 2, not as good as i originally thought :( . Had some filckering shadows, slight ghosting on some objects and the leaves on the water look 2D, makes your eyes go funny, also night time looks like daytime, the colours are far too bright on default game setting for the alienware monitor. I have already turned contrast down to 30, but the brightness sets to 100 everytime i run a game and is blanked off in the menu, so then i use ingame settings to turn down brightness, but then the colours are way too deep lol.

Hi to all, is beena while nobody talks on this thread, i have a quick question, does the new 24'' full HD 3dvision ready lcds still suffers of top/bottom ghosting like the samsung 2233rz?

I have the samsung and i'm thinking about getting one of the new 24'' models out there today, as i will do the upgrade just for a properly working 3d vision, does anyone please can confirm if they are at least top/bottom ghosting free?

Also if someone please can tell me also if the other kind of ghosting is still present, i mean ghosting in certain situations with high contrast images..

i'm taliking about:

* Acer GD245HQ 120Hz LCD display
* Acer GD235HZ 120Hz LCD display
* LG W2363D 120Hz LCD display

reading on the Acer review on this forum it looks like the top/bottom ghosting is gone but there is still some general ghosting in some particular situations..

does anyone can confirm please ? does the LG acts the same ?
thanks

There is no much talk here.It should. It is the most important topic for 3D Vision. Why we should talk about a technology when it does not work as advertised and it isn't supported by the manufacturers.
Anyway..as for the Acer ...see for yourself

The article above is right - I got Acer GD245HQ and there is small ghosting on the top - no matter what settings are. So only for small depth it is not big issue.

I will reply to mysef (don' worry I usually do not speak to myself).

Both glasses and monitor should imagine there is additional 100 pixels more in vertical direction. Then we do not have to use piece of material to cover top fragent of monitor - it would be just not displayed, but all timings should be fixed as if thre are e.g. 1920x1180 pixels on the screen. The signal and display should stay the same, but synchronization shuld be extended with those virtual lines - then those additional lines would be simply hiddden, but in result what is visible should not suffer from ghoting effect.

Strange in monitor seting for custom resolution there is possibility to have leading rows of pixels (for ACER there are three leading rows), but I'm too short to define new resolution that could work.

Exact same problem, NO 3D effect at the top 15-20% of the screen on my 2233RZ.
If it's a timing issue then why do we Still have to wait? if it's a hardware issue why do none of Nvidia's stuff just tell us?!

It's gotta be something you can tell us, blame it on the screen, software, timings ect just tell us. (Oh and Bump for old thread which needs to be replied to.)
