VIEWSONICE PJD6211 (PJD6220)- SET UP PROBLEMS CANNOT GET IT / THEM TO WORK ?
5 / 7
Any chance you can confirm this for me?
Can you get these projectors working whilst inverted? This is the only way I can use a PJ in the space I have available.
Also, what cables are you using for the video? I need about 10ft of cable.
I could not get this to work inverted unless i use the glasses upside down.
The PJ's "invert" function for me does not work.
Maybe Bloody will shed some light on this later ?
This is a real problem for me (if i dont want to continue having my wife laugh at me when i have the glasses on) as the PJ does not have a "Lens shift" or equivalent.
So if its above 4 foot from the floor the picture will be half way up your celling when not upside down.
I use the cable provide, although it's damn short...............one or two people on this thread reckon that you may have problems if you use another VGA cable ??

Thanks Pele,
Will keep an eye out and see how bloody gets on.
I would have thought that the invert issue could be sorted with drivers so there's hope for that bit.
The cable thing really would be a problem for me though unless I knock a couple of walls down and mount my PC on the ceiling!
Wonder if that's a limitation of using a VGA cable rather than a DVI cable?
I grabbed a longer generic DSUB-15 cable, because I needed it, but with it I was unable to switch to 120Hz which kind of surprised me, but when I moved the PC closer and used the cable that came with the projector it worked without problems at 120Hz... and there is no such thing as dual-link DSUB cable for analog signal... not to mention you actually use much lower resolution. But anyway it really seems to be some problem with other cables, although it might be related to the cable been long and not of good quality... it was some cheap brand and I think 6 or 8 meters long.
As for the inverting, I need to try that one... I have enough space for big screen "normal" projection. But you might also consider the short-throw version PJD6381 as a solution, although it is a bit more expensive it will allow you to cut the length between the projector and the screen in two (or somewhere around it) while having the same size of the projected screen.

ok, good to hear you have it working.
The throw distance of the 6211 I had was actually just right for me. I had it ceiling mounted above my head where i sit. Pointing it one direction gave me about a 40inch screen size on my window blind. Swinging the pj round 180 degrees gave a nice 100"+ screen on the oposite wall. But because of where the pc is under my desk i couldn't use the supplied cable. I bought the most expensive 8ft cable (dvi to dsub) I could find but it would not sync when using it. Moving the pc nearer isn't really an option...don't want it on my desk.
Do you notice a drop in lumens/sharpness when in 120hz mode? More noticeable if you switch to 120hz in 2d desktop?
Do you see any blue ghosting in one eye in 3d mode?

What is this, you have to use the supplied 6 foot cable? What, is your pc supposed to be dangling from your CEILING MOUNTED projector!? If anyone finds a long cable that works, please let me know.
Unfortunately, I am without my PJ for 3 weeks or longer, since it is RMA'd, now I hear its cable problems? I wonder why this is the case anyhow. 120hz worked on my desktop with my cable as it was, what is the difference with running a game.
I am wanting to do more testing, but I know I had the same issues when I used the cable provided, even with two separate computers. Blue Ghosting and XGA sync issues.
Oh well, the BS continues.
Im curious as well, does the 120hz mode on the 6211 give a lower lumens output?

I'll try to measure the brightness level at 60Hz and at 120Hz to see if there is any difference, but it might not be the brightness that changes... but more like something resulting from doubling the frames per second. And seems to PJD6211 handle more like a CRT display than an LCD, thus setting it up as a generic CRT in the drivers.

"Im curious as well, does the 120hz mode on the 6211 give a lower lumens output?"
yes, when you switch to this refresh rate you can see it change.....i would say a conservative 10-15 % less poss, but nothing that prohibits game play or video playback !

Hm, quite interesting results after measuring the brightness levels at 60Hz and 120Hz:
- sRGB mode: 60Hz - 457 lux, 120 Hz - 328 lux (~ 39% drop in brightness)
- PC mode: 60 Hz - 956 lux, 120 Hz - 461 lux (~ 107% drop in brightness)
So the higher the brightness level is in 60Hz mode, the more it drops when switching to 120Hz.
Of course these results are measured on a completely white image at 3 meter distance from the projector, the results may differ in different conditions, but the change in brightness level in percents will probably remain pretty much the same in relation between 60 and 120 hertz modes. Visually the difference in sRGB mode (I prefer this one) is not that noticeable, but in PC mode it is much more apparent to the naked eye (when switching between the modes). However I did not find this as a problem when playing in a dark room, probably it will be an issue if you try to play in S3D in s too lit up room.

Hello:
I have the PJD6220-3d working at 120hz in 3d using Nvidia 3D Vision. After much trial and error I determined the maximum VGA cable length between display and computer to be 25ft. Anything longer results in 3D Vision struggling to find the projector. The cable was purchased from Fry's. I am projecting on a Da-Lite 100" High Power screen and the results are satisfactory woth no apparent color shift or ghosting. Brightness is sufficient for my Grandson to play Spore in the afternoon with some sun in the room. The projector is inverted and sits on a beam nine feet above the floor and 13ft from the screen. I hope this helps. The projector does work in 3D but maximum VGA cable length of 25' is very important.

Thanks for taking the time to test this it's very much appreciated.
Possibly i managed to buy a dodgy VGA cable? Seems like quite a good quality cable though and works fine otherwise.
I think I might hold out for a little while longer and keep an eye on developments. Surely, it won't be long before someone comes up with a 720p or even better a 1080p projector with true 120hz input by DVI.
This wouldn't be such a problem if we could get DLP rear projection HDTV's in the UK!
