Dirt 2 update now supports 3D Vision uhhh...see above
  1 / 4
Even though I have unhooked my 3D vision (officially protesting until I get my Samsung Drivers), I thought you all would like to know that Dirt 2 just got an update and one of the line items was optimize for Nvidia 3D vision. Now if Nvidia would work on their end and give us a better profile, it might just work.

C'mon Nvidia, give us the @#$% driver update already.

Hard to recommend this to friends when I can't show it to them.

Nice! I gotta try this, Dirt 2 already looks amazing in 3D aside from the menus and some hud aspects so this should be the icing on the cake

I tried it sometime ago but the water effect and fog was annoying, will update and try again.

Wow, may just buy it now. I have the 360 racing wheel, but I need that damn wireless adapter to connect the wireless controllers/racing wheel to my PC.

I was just gonna make a thread about this, as I just fired up steam today and noticed the update. I put this game off until they fixed the 3D and it looks like I will finally give it a go.

I fired it up on steam last night and it is definitely improved. Water looks great now in 3d and their aren't any more lighting issues when AA is used. There are still shadow issues though so hopefully new nvidia drivers will help this situation. Still, nice job codemasters!

Game looks great now in 3d, but shadows should be on very low. But even then visuals are much more immersive than 2D with shadows cranked up.

Found a workaround that allows You to play the game with the highest shadow quality and no disturbing effects.
If You set the shadow quality to max You will see that all the shadows are placed correctly besides from some diffuse shadows around the cars.
To remove these diffuse shadows You have to edit the file hardware_settings_config.xml in the folder C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\My Games\DiRT2\hardwaresettings with a text editor.
Change the phrase
dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="true" to dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false"
Then this disturbing shadow will dissappear :)

The particle effects that belong to my own car are OK (with the right convergence settings). Only particle effects that are caused by other cars are disturbing. So I only turn particles off when racing against (many) other cars.

here you go! some screenshots ^^

i confirm that the game looks awesome now !!! THANK YOU CODEMASTERS!

there still is a problem present - there is some wierd sideeffect when I try to increase depth /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

the first screenshot (the view from above) demonstrates the sideeffect. look at the car, and you will get the idea.. (try closing one eye)

however in my opinion it is a minor problem which is eliminated by minimizing depth as much as possible.
as you will see from the rest of the screenshots - with the help of increasing convergence it is still possible to get a great stereo effect.

I have all ingame graphic settings maxed out (except AA)!

p.s. reducing depth and increasing convergence makes some loading screens and menus messed up, but that is another minor annoyance IMO.
p.p.s. screenshot nr5 is a must see! :D

If You look at my post above You will see that I've found a simple solution for this problem (dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false").
Compare the two screenshots:
first one with dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="true",
the second one with dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false".
No more irritating shadows even with 100% depth and high shadow quality /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

I wonder why Codemasters didn't include this simple solution in their patch (possibility to turn off dynamic ambient occlusion in the in game settings)

Unfortunately You often have to find a way to turn off disturbing effects by editing the .ini files etc. (see http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=99854 )
