The Witcher 2 in 3D Vision Official thread from NVIDIA

I get about 45 FPS standing outside the tavern during the day with shadows everywhere. As soon as I go inside the tavern, my frame rate plummets to 10 FPS despite the fact the fact that the view distance has decreased dramatically and I don't see a lot of shadows inside there. I think the problem indoors isn't strictly related to shadows but I am getting the feeling that the developers might have to fix this.

Actually the fault here is not nVidia but CDPRJ RED. They decided to do hacks and workaround in order to be able to put "3D Vision Ready" logo on the box. nVidia only gave them the documentation and APIs to use in order to display the game in 3D. The producer is responsible for not using the APIs right, which is exactly what they are doing: searching every frame to see if the 3d stereo driver is enable in order to render the shadows correctly. As a workaround...stop 3D vision service , start the game and start the 3d vision service....what will you see? out of place shadows.....So if you want to sue someone then go for CDPRJ RED....they ABUSED the "3D Vision Logo" not nVidia...

Thx for the hint - we are not very technical, so it points us in the right direction. One thing though, if we file, it was never our intent to hurt witcher 2 developer, (by all means it has to be a great game, though one which we are still waiting to play), but rather nvidia which was responsible for labeling the game ready which it was not...

nVidia collaborated with CDPRJ on the 3D aspect ..but they cannot impose how a developer implements the coding. I do believe that at some point there was a misunderstanding(which more or less I think it wasn't made on purpose but I might be wrong). nVidia is responsible for developing the 3D technology and only collaborating with the developer on how to implement this technology in their product. I know CDPRJ is a small developer (unlike Ubisoft or Bioware...etc) and it is visible that this is a huge "goof-up". They will fix it in the future most likely. Unfortunately it is us, the consumers, who suffers in the meantime.... I wouldn't sue CDPRJ because what they did is a marvel...and is one of those small developers and few who still believe PC gaming is the real future (even if is waaaay harder to develop an application for the 1000000001 hardware configurations out there..rather than for 1-2 configurations which is the case for consoles). So patience is a virtue...
I agree it is very frustrating to not be able to play the game in 3D Vision or 3D Surround...and the experience is shattered when you hit a 10fps area..but it will be fixed..I know it...it is a marvelous game that has alot to gain by working properly in 3D:)

Hi All
The UDA WHQL driver 275.33 is now online. This should provide some relief to the performance problems many users had.
Please download it and try it: http://www.geforce.com/#/News/articles/geforce-275-33-whql-drivers-released
[/quote]
I already posted this in response to your query in another thread here but here goes:
Everyone that has installed this driver has noted that the indoor frame rate issue still remains - I still get 10 FPS inside the tavern and 45 outside of it. The only improvement I have seen that is you want to play in 2D, you can disable the 3D Vision driver and get decent performance in the game whereas in the 275.27 driver you had to uninstall the 3D Vision driver completely.
If you guys have the game on hand, just have someone walk into the tavern in Act 1 with 3D Vision installed. You can also see this problem at the beginning of the game during the prison cutscene.

So it looks as though outside with I hover around the same frames, actually it dips 1 frame less from the beta driver. Indoor still garbage 10fps..Looks like the monkeys can't do anything right. I regret legitimately buying it instead of obtaining this game by another means.. Poor 3D performance and poor support. You might as well scrap this 3D project Nvidia, or hire some decent programmers that know what they're doing.

The staffers who tested this patch had to have realized that it didn't fix any of the 3d vision performance problems right? Do Nvidia testers even load the game in 3d vision??
What,if anything, was fixed?
We can now disable 3d vision and play at proper fps without uninstalling it...noteworthy accomplishment Nvidia.
Lets compare what Nvidia is doing to a real world situation...
You break your leg and go to the hospital. After waiting 2 weeks in the waiting room the doctor calls you in. The doctor then waves his hands around your broken leg..taps your knee...and whispers something into your shin. He then tells you the leg is fixed and to go run around and try it out. After collapsing in the street in horrible pain you crawl back to the ER, only to find the doctor is unavailable...and the wait is another 2 weeks.
Good Job Guys! Not only did you not fix the problem, but for some reason pretended that you did.
PS- Hilarious- Andrews response to people saying it doesnt work is "did you try the 1.1 patch" bahaha

right now i feel raped. let me explain you how i feel
at the beginning i was screaming and crying when i played the game for the first time, and knew that there was no fix for the fps problem /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
then nvidia told me to shut up and just wait until the patch was done /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
after waiting and waiting until nvidia was finished, i was starting to get used to it,
i was even happy knowing that nvidia would fix it, so i kind of enjoyed the ride /stud.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':stud:' />
now nvidia tells me hes finished. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> and then dissapears.
leaving me with this biiiiiig problem
i guess i just have to accept the problem and try to leave with it
im going to name it... Geralt /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

frame drop doesn't occur in all indoor locations. I think it's not an indoor-outdoor thing; it's more like a candle or light source thing. game gets seriously sluggish in the inn because there are too many candles.
this might be the problem, and the driver team could look into it. if you don't know what's causing the lag, how can you fix it?

one thing is clear for me.. my i7 2600k + gtx 580 sli can only handle the game at high spec mode 1080p when 3d stereoscopic is enabled. still.. I get huge fps drop in indoor area(10-15fps) while outdoor is 30-50fps on lastest 275.33 driver. It's still very playable.. but what kills me is severe ghosting when the depth is high. at 10% depth, this game plays perfect like the way it should be.. but any higher than that, I notice severe ghosting.. This isn't noticable when camera is zoomed out during gameplay but it becomes so painful to watch when camera zooms in characters like during cutscenes... I am using acer hn274h 27 inch 3d monitor at 120hz mode.. tried every single setting but due to bad ghosting issue, i think i will just stick with 10% depth where it plays perfect.. it's a shame.. really.. coz at 100% depth, game looks amazing during gameplay(then when camera zooms in, it gets ugly with ghosting).

Sorry about that - I will confine my feedback to the other thread where I posted a screenshot from that area.

Tested with witcher 2 GoG Version patched to 1.1. I can confirm indoor locations give 5fps on a GTX 590 (the fastest card..right?

PS- Hilarious- Andrews response to people saying it doesnt work is "did you try the 1.1 patch" bahaha

at the beginning i was screaming and crying when i played the game for the first time, and knew that there was no fix for the fps problem
then nvidia told me to shut up and just wait until the patch was done
after waiting and waiting until nvidia was finished, i was starting to get used to it,
i was even happy knowing that nvidia would fix it, so i kind of enjoyed the ride
now nvidia tells me hes finished.
leaving me with this biiiiiig problem
i guess i just have to accept the problem and try to leave with it
im going to name it... Geralt

this might be the problem, and the driver team could look into it. if you don't know what's causing the lag, how can you fix it?
