I have 3D vision glases and Samsung 120hz TFT @1680x1050. I wanna play good old Descent III with the glasses, but 3D-View will not start, although it is listed in the driver´s list (nv driver systemcontrol) recommended and marked as "excellent" - so it should work somehow. I ve got latest drivers for gtx280 and 3dvision in Vista64.
I tried starting the game with commandline from the descent3-launcher:
-width 1680 -height 1050 -aspect 1.6 -nointro -framecap 999
--> monitor shows 60hz in game. Maybe there´s a way to override that? Maybe thats the solution how to enable the 3D-view?
Anyway, game is starting in vista64 without compatibility mode or such. I use patchlevel 1.4. The game crashes when I press exit (black screen), can be revived with Alt+Tab and then kill process or Alt+F4. Sometimes game will not start with error-message about missing cache-directory. This is fixed when I log out and log in again in vista. Completely buggy all this stuff.

Descent 3 is like 10 years old... the only games that would work with 3d are going to be games written in the last few years using DirectX 9. Descent 3 was practically a dos based game... I love that game too but there is NO way it will ever have 3d support sorry.

i get descet 3 to run in 3d mode but there is not really any 3d effect- depth and convergence do not work. It is interesting that under the Nvidia control panel it states that d3 will work in 3d with "excellent" results. Why is listed as excellent if it does not work? This is strange.

I just dont think anything previous to directx 9 will work with these drivers. I dont know why those drivers say it works.... mind said google earth works too... it doesn't I think someone at Nvidia just started adding applications and putting some bullcrap status next to it instead of actually checking if it works right. I would love to see a wiki of games that ACTUALLY work... I just threw out my descent 3 cds when I moved last month.. otherwise I would of tried it.

thanks for your answers, ad5os! Descent 3 was a great game and the glasses would have been a reason for me to play it again.

man I would love it if they could get these older 3d games to work.... that would be an awesome game to play in 3d .. I bought a cyberman 2 cause of that game so I could have a real 6dof controller. Id love to play mechwarrior and other older games in 3d.

Descent series is one of my fav of all time, it would be great if there's a DirectX9 conversion/wrapper for it. I've been keeping an eye out but haven't seen anything. It might come down to reinstalling XP on my older machine for playing older S-3D games.
On a related note, does the old driver 91.31 work with DLP TV or with the newer LCD (120Hz 3D ready), anyone?

Yea that living legends looks bad ass I think it is finally out too. I don't have Crysis but I would buy it just for that mod. I'd be worried that it is too much simulator and not enough action. The game modes look cool enough... I wonder what the max amount of players can be for an online match.. would be awesome to see some 32v32 mech battles! :D
There might be a Descent 4 coming out eventually.... they scrapped that in 2000 but some company still owes the rights to it and I think they are thinking about bringing it back out. Also I loved Tribes and there isn't a good tribes or tribes like game out... I'd love to see something like Tribes 2... I know there is a tribes community game or mod but it sucks.

I thought Crysis is well known here for not being compatible with 3D Vision, is it no longer truth?

just tested Crysis 1.21 a minute ago and its working with 3D vision. It s rated as "good" by nvidia that means it has some problems with shadows and postprocessing. Turning that off makes it look a little worse. Main problem imho is that the graphics of Crysis consumes so much hardware power that I could not get over about 20 fps in 3d mode. I got a GTX280.

That's great news, I would have bought the Crysis bundle (was on sale) over the holidays had this news came earlier. How does the water look in S-3D? I downloaded the demo but it didn't work for me before. Could you post a S-3D screenshot? I'm interested in seeing how 'worse' can it be.

Descent 1 2 3 and Forsaken were my absolute favorite games that time, guess where my nickname comes from! :) btw. there is a quite pretty Mechwarrior-Remake, check http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/
just tested Crysis 1.21 a minute ago and its working with 3D vision. It s rated as "good" by nvidia that means it has some problems with shadows and postprocessing. Turning that off makes it look a little worse. Main problem imho is that the graphics of Crysis consumes so much hardware power that I could not get over about 20 fps in 3d mode. I got a GTX280.
