Troubleshooting failure to enable 3D in Google Earth since R265 drivers
  2 / 2
Ok, now this is getting interesting! I've discovered that GoogleEarth has never supported 3D. It seems it currently does not support 3D. Nor does Google Maps, even though it can support the old style plastic lens, and so, presumably, could easily pop in the electronic 3D.

This is documented at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/earth/thread?tid=62ce13148972cfdf&hl=en See the end of the page, which says googleearth has never supported 3D.

It stands in sharp contrast with andrewf's clear statement that it is possible. And there seem's to be proof in Gilador's system.

But, hey, this doesn't happen in reality! These are opposite and mutually exclusive states, one us is lying, or, more generously, has misunderstood, or been misinterpreted.

So, to be clear. I'm asking firstly if it is possible to run googleearth in 3D (electronic only please), without resorting to tridef. And then, if you do run this, how did you accomplish this?

Because, in my case, it doesn't work. Because of andrewf's hope inducing comment, I pursued this, but now it appears I've been misled, or got lost. Of course I have contacted Nvidia support, and they would not help. It isn't their product, Googleearth, so they can legitimately disown it. But then Googleearth doesn't explicitly support it. I mean, who does it serve to have this never-never land of ambiguous supposed support? And if 3D isn't supported in Googleearth, why not! I hate these little profit barriers surrounding hardware functionality, but I can see how effective it is to funnel me over to tridef.

Just received confirmation from google earth technical support, that google earth does not support 3D.
Andrewf, in what sense did you state that Nvidia supports google earth?

That's funny. I guess it just goes to show that no matter how rich company, you cannot quarantee knowledgeable tech support.

I am sure if you had gotten one who actually owns 3D monitor and nVidia's 3D Vision, the answer would have been quite different.

Funny is right! Poor technicians is right too! And a further funny thing, is that I checked this board before, and whether it was here or elsewhere I just can't say at the moment, but I thought Andrewf clarified that 3D didn't actually work work at the streetview level. Strangely, I believe he asserted that 3D buildings did run in 3D.

For clarity sake, when I refer to 3D, I mean using electronic shutter glasses, such that if you didn't use the glasses you wouldn't be able to visually interpret the image. I don't mean the case where the graphics card is processing 3D building data, and displaying it 2D.

As it happens, I got frustrated enough to pay my ticket, to unlock the 3D display capability. That was the only effective method I have discovered.

Technical support at Nvidia has actually asked me to work with you, Gilador, to determine how your system is different from mine. That is the level of technical support Nvidia itself gives me when I ask how to enable 3d on Google Earth. They tell me to consult with you, because yours is the only system that I've found can do it.

How did you do it? It seems there was no special thing you did, it just worked. But then the technicians and I set my system up the same, and it doesn't work. Even with 3D buildings on (still displays 2D, even if calculated 3D). Even full screen. Even after Cntrl T.

But, having submitted to tridef, and the unlock, it works. This is a real mystery. I wonder if others will get GoogleEarth working using Nvidia's 3D without using tridef...

it did't work for me until i disabled sli. and it s not working on multiple monitors like 3d sorround vision, only one monitor.
