I got a gfm multimedia headset, it was cheap, for gaming and stuff and i cant seem to get it to run. It has two little plugs. one pink and one green. I plugged them into the pink and green slots in the back of my comp but i cant seem to record anything. I can hear things, but just cant talk... I use realtek hd and it says i have the line in and the mic in plugged in but not the line out. Dont know what any of that means, but what do i need to do!!! I spent a whole 10$ on this thing!!!

try the old leave it on sound recorder recording, while plugging it into random ports and yelling till u see the green like shake indicating its getting input. also check that mic isnt muted in the drivers for your sound card and check the levels in that AND the windows sounds thing in control panel.

it is set, still no luck though.... could it be the drivers? i have realtek 5.1 and i know that realtek has had problems with bf2....is there a driver that works for bf2?
I went into the volume control and put the volume all the way up and un muted all 13 settings. I set boost mic gain, still no luck.

You must select/vink Your microphone in Audio Properties and boost it (You did I think).
In the BF2 audio menu You must select software (not hardware) and boost it also. And talk while You test the mic. I have to do that. While talking I test the mic. If I don't talk the meter doesn't show anything. Hope this helps.
BTW: in BF2 a good X-Fi is really good. there's positional audio with headphones (CMSS-3D HP) so You can hear where the enemy is. It's a real advantage.
