Small problem
  1 / 2
Hi, Since i got my 3D vision kit I've had this problem, while playing a game in 3D at any random given time the screen goes black, i can hear the game pausing, the glasses and 3D go off and then come back on again and the screen goes back to the game and carries on as normal, lasts about 4 seconds, I've been putting up with it as its not normally too bad, it seems like it is ALT-Tabbing the game and then going back to it. Sometimes i can get through a session without it doing it at all, other times it does it like 4 times in an hour. It's only been really annoying lately as i was playing Bioshock 2 in 3D and it seems that doesnt support ALT-Tab, so i have to close it via task manager and reload, and as this game doesnt have an auto save every 5 seconds like all other games these days i end up replaying huge sections again. I even tried it without 3D and it still did it, so i unplugged the emitter and switched 3d off via nvidia control panel and it STILL did it! grrr.

It never used to do this before i got the 3D kit, so its either the vision drivers or something to do with the monitor (2233rz) think im using the 1.33 drivers but not sure where to look to find out?

Has anyone else experienced this at all?

Well,it could be anything...

A program running at the background ,that turn to a certain dll, registery, broken ram bits or whatever..

Could even be your sounddriver,I have had the weirdest errors in all the 15 years I had a personal computer that even a computer professional didn't had the answer to.

Try re-installing drivers (not only video),put your pci cards in different slots,or remove if not needed, remove usb camera's,turn of any powers saving options, turn off power warnings of your mouse battery or other warnings..all of these things you can try ,especially the last thing if you have a cordless mouse !

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, then Event Viewer, look around the logs at the times this has occurred.

It's possible it could be sound drivers as im using an Asus Crosshair 3 mobo which came with an XFI Extreme sound card, the drivers are half hacked between creative and realtek.

Will check out event log tonight and see if that sheds any light.

Cheers

try setting your colour scheme to windows basic before you play. I have similar problems with a few of my games behaving like this.
Bad Company 2 likes to flick to windowed mode a couple of times when I first start to play.

It doesnt totally fix it but it does seem to reduce the frequency if I set windows to a basic colur scheme.

I think the window position changes and flickers when windows explorer crashes and resets behind the game.

When you get back to desktop are your icons sometimes missing for a min or so?

Just had a look through event viewer, it looks like it is the Windows Desktop Manager service causing it all, as we know, games disable this when they initially load (so you lose aero etc) but for some reason windows was trying to reactivate it while i was still playing, this in turn crashed out the nvidia display driver (nvdm.dll i think) which it auto recovers, i think this is the point the screen then goes blank, and then it creates an error report which i never see.

Gonna try disabling DWM via services before i load a game, see if that makes a difference.

Cheers for the help chaps
