Yes, it's possible to switch from Video mode to PC mode back and firth via the TV's menu, i.e. disable Video mode = switch to PC mode. No I think you misunderstand me, I mean can you disable the video processing that makes 3D look worse with in the TV's [i]hidden[/i] service menu. I dont mean simply renaming the source to PC mode and activating the PC profile. I mean permanently disable the video processing that frame packing forces on in 3D mode.

Also, i'd advocate top/bottom support over sbs since passive 3DTVs get half resolution as well in that mode. Both my NX711 and my Sharp LE835 active 3D Tvs support it. So i assume most do, but really can't draw a conclusion. A day or less research for an Nvidia staff member with Nvidia connections?

I have said it earlier this year, and I wills ay it again that this feature is on our roadmap, its just behind other features right now that other users have requested. We will add this feature to future drivers.

Checkerboard also covers most Samsung HDMI 1.4 HDTVs, though they seem to have dropped that mode for some particular 2011 models. Also waiting for the CB support a long time now, using the Gefen DVI-Detective HDMI 1.3 EDID workaround in the meantime.
Testing just a Samsung SyncMaster SA950 in side-by-side mode I can say the checkerboard mode is clearly a superior format compared to side-by-side:
- The overall image quality is better, especially on edges
- It supports windowed applications (games)
- It does not cause desktop disortion after leaving a game
