Decline of 3D Vision - Thought you all should know - Dark Times Ahead :(

I wish I knew how to fix games or I would. I tried looking at how to do it but I think my brain is fried after working on a PC most of my work day.
The community here has kept 3D gaming alive for the 2+ years since Helix first released his tools. I just wonder how much money Nvidia has made based on the kits and games sold because of the fixes here.
I am bummed out that I probably won't get to play the Witcher 3 in flawless 3D - I bet they broke a lot of stuff when they started tweaking the engine for the next game.
My thanks to all the fine people here for keeping me gaming in 3D for the last few years.

Would any of you guys that know how to fix games be interested in fixing some of the major ones to work with 3D if we set up a Kickstarter for it or something? I love the Witcher series so much I would probably pay $100+ on my own to get near-flawless 3D on the level that AC4 was made to be.
Just a thought...

I praise, respect and thank all the modders who are not going to give up. I'm not good with graphics as I am with AI, but, if I have the time, I'll do my best to join you.
But you won't do anything. Let me say that again - *you won't do anything*. You have not done anything to date, and I can guarantee you will not do anything going forward. Your message is unbelievably ungrateful.
Eqzitara and I have many reasons for stepping back from fixing, most of which involve other aspects of our lives (I have 2 kids for example). Nvidia's lack of support is just one of them. If others pick up the baton, all the better, and I will be happy to help them - but that is up to them, and neither myself nor eqzitara are responsible for the fact that we have been pretty much the only two people producing fixes this past 18 months. Also as eqzitara pointed out, we will be stepping back in the Fall, not straight away.

Why not to organize donate for fixing? I belive some money may motivate to not stop. I belive many of us are ready to donate for having a chance to play in 3D.
Can it be discussed?

Money has nothing to do with it. Please lets not go there again :-) This community needs more people to learn how to fix games. Bo3b is learning and so is helifax, but others need to give it a go. Two people simply can't keep this going alone indefinitely. As has been pointed out, tools now exist for all major windows targets, if people want to keep this going, you have to make it happen - find a role where you can contribute and collaborate.

Anyway i'm still wondering.. Few enthusiasts fixed many and many games, bring them work perfect in 3D almost with no Nvidia support.
Can't Nvidia just hire 1-2 specialists (just damn 1-2 men!!!) to do the same?? Is that too expensive for such "small" company?

Unfortunately, i'm absolute zero in graphics and never was a programmer. So basicly i understand nothing in programming and other stuff like that :\

With regard to 3D Vision sales, I mentioned this before, and my best estimate is that there are around 1M active users. They said at one point in an interview that they sold 500K Rev1 kits, and Rev2 has been more popular than that. Lots of those kits are cast aside and no longer used, but I expect there are a lot of people using it without looking around for mods and fixes.
The confusion stems from this being the place where we get our news and info, but we also know from two different experiments that there are only about 120 active forum users.
So just as a reminder, Internet != RealLife.

What it really takes is an interest in puzzles. Yes, puzzles. If you think puzzle games are fun, and are good at puzzles, you can easily learn what you need to know to fix games.
It doesn't really have anything to do with programming, or shader knowledge, or how 3D games work, not really. It just requires the motivation to solve really interesting and challenging puzzles. If you don't like puzzles, then it's not for you.
I'll look into seeing if we can start off a new round of modders, because I can definitely teach you the basics.

So a few modders decide to stop updating their software and now, all of a sudden, 3D Vision is dead? Sounds to me like HelixMod is dead, and 3D Vision is just like it was before.
In fact, I've found Nvidia's support of 3D to be great out-the-box, even if you sometimes need to tweak the settings. Of course, it would be great to see more native 3D games, but the driver works pretty well.
Keep in mind, I have been using the Nvidia stereo driver since 2002, and I plan to continue using it as long as they continue support. Nvidia has been spending money and resources to keep the driver updated over the past 15 years (or whatever) and it continues to be alive.
All this talk about the death of 3D Vision is premature and misplaced.

Sad news to hear. Thank you so much to everyone that helped in anyway to help with helix mod, you made it such an enjoyable experience for so many games.
And I just want to say this and there's probably a few others that feel this way. Sorry for taking all your hard work for granted I mean I appreciated it but all I did was go to the site and check if there was a fix for what game I wanted to play next.
Thanks again so much and I truly hope that this is just a speed bump for 3D and either Nvida, modders or some other company can continue one of the greatest things to grace gaming.

Alright so i'm very worried. Please Please advise me on what this means.
I just ordered a GTX 770, a ASUS VG248QE Monitor, and Nvidia 3D vision 2.
With Helix no longer providing patches, does this mean that the 3D is going to be crap?
Should I return what I ordered? Please let me know, as i have had no experience with 3D yet....

Many games already work very well (most of them probably need community fixes). Here's a good list hosted by bo3b for members to vote for their favorite games in 3D Vision http://lists.bo3b.net/s3d/. It's up to you to decide if you wanna play older games or not. If you bought it just for new/upcoming games, I think it's not a very good idea, given current circumstances. However, things might change soon.

@sdempsey: You don't need the HelixMod to play games in 3D. The Nvidia 3D Vision driver works great for many games. On some titles there may be strange glitches, like with shadows or water reflections and things like that. In those cases, you can usually fix it by turning down the graphic settings or disabling certain features. The HelixMod is used to fix these issues, but it is not needed. You should keep your new hardware and see what 3D gaming has to offer.

Thanks, somewhat of a relief.
The games I play mostly are from Blizzard.
Diablo 3
World of Warcraft
StarCraft 2
I'd also like to try Tomb Raider which I seee is a #1 pick from the community.
Even though I haven't gotten a chance to try 3D, i've heard fantastic things about the work from the modders here. So from a user who hasn't even gotten to experience your work yet... Thank you!!
