the real bad thing about this is that when you press the ctrl+t shortcut in game to switch from 3D to 2D the brightness is locked at 100%..

Maybe its only a logic inside the monitor-firmware whether 3D is used or not.
This has been going on ever since Windows 7 was launched. Some titles do and others don't - 3d certified and non-profiled alike. I have reported this on driver feedback so i'm surprised you guys havent heard about already...

There is an icon on the bottom right in green. Right Click it and select "Reset Sync". It will turn the monitor back to DVI mode (non 3d mode) and reset the state of nvidia 3d vision.

This is something I've wanted to try the next time my glasses and emitter don't turn off after an in game crash.
I have a similar version of this problem but it happens when the game crashes or I end process. The emitter stays on, the glasses stay on. I need to check next time to see if the monitor returns back to non-3d mode. I think maybe it's because I haven't reinstalled windows in so long. I am hoping my problem goes away after a fresh install of win7 in a few weeks.

I too have had this problem ever since I bought 3d vision more than a year ago. It's mostly just a minor annoyance for me, as usually I can remedy it by just running the nvidia stereoscopic test after I play a game. But it would be nice if it didnt happen at all.
Andrew, it's hard to believe you cannot reproduce this. It happens quite frequently, and on various monitors obviously, and with every driver version. I have gotten used to it, but when I stop to really think about it, it is not something I SHOULD HAVE HAD to get used to. /pinch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pinch:' />
So, it would really be another sigh of relief if this could be figured out, as well as all the other stuff I know you nvidia dudes are trying to do.

The best solution is to disable the automatic full bright of the monitor. Also could be possible to switch playing between 2D and 3D mode with a normal custom bright without disable totally 3d vision before. Also some games with a lot of ghosting could be played better with less bright. Also dark colors could be better in certain games. Also... Also... what I am writting? why to justify it?
Playing a dark game (like metro 2033) using 100hz (gives better bright and colors than 120hz) and full bright is too much bright, and then black is far away to be black, it is better less monitor bright and have then something less ghosting and better black color. But it is impossible to do. Why? IT IS LOCKED. Why is it locked?... because... well, you know.

I haven't been able to reproduce this issue. Are you using Windows SP1? Which USB emitter driver do you have installed? Does this only occur with certain games or all games? Did this happen with previous driver versions?
[/quote]
Ive been using 3d vision now for a few days. Can confirm it gets locked roughly 90% of the time using any game. Changing resolution unlocks the brightness settings.
Even if i completely turn of 3d, unplug 3d ir transmitter etc brightness of my aw2310 is locked and i cant do anything about it until i fiddle with resolution....
Please put an option in your Nvidea drivers to NOT LOCK SCREEN BRIGHTNESS AT 100%. this way you get what you want, people that don't know what they are doing have brightness set at 100% to make sure its bright enough for them, but people that know what thy're doing can experiment with different brightness levels, plus it stops this problem of locking brightness at a blinding 100%.

Whatever NVIDIA's 3d vision priority is, it's definitely not "ease of use" or catering to an advanced user.

Not able to reproduce this problem either with my AW2310. What revision is your panel? Mine is RevA01 and about 1 yr old. Also, try to disable Dynamic Contrast in the menu and adjust brightness/contrast manually. Brightness will still go to 100% during games while in 3D mode, but will properly go back to your own settings once you exit the game. If you're having ghosting issues with this monitor, try reducing Contrast to 45 or lower with this panel. It'll obviously make images less bright, but vastly reduces and virtually eliminates overdrive ghosting with this panel.

We may have some follow-up questions later this week.

cheers andrew! one game to try it on is just cause 2, im playing the steam version. on the alienware aw2310 it gets locked 100% of the time after this game, although admitted it locks on many other games as well, although with this game its 100% of the time. Its annoying as after playing a game im usually doing word processing and only realise after getting really sore eyes 30 mins later that the brightness is at 100%, it really hurts! having to change the resolution after every game seems pretty lame. Thanks for looking into it.

For anyone who is having this problem, when you quit the 3D app and the monitor brightness is locked at 100%, does the emitter continue to glow bright green or has it dimmed to faint green? If it stays bright green then we probably did not exit from the 3D mode as expected.
