Vision 3D top of screen severe ghosting

Novaace - I'm not sure what you want me to expand on, sorry... Can you please specifically ask me and I'll try my best?

Amorphous - Sounds good with those ACER's, I can't wait until I hear more about them to really see some in depth, thorough analysis by as many people as possible, but they seriously are looking hopeful.

mhalsan - I have tried mucking around with resolution settings, and it does make a difference, just play around and try to makr it so the monitor has the most amount of time resting as possible (between frames if you know what I mean) and ghosting should be reduced (it worked for me at least)

When I had WinXP I had a lot of control over resolutions and video timing that seems to be locked out under Win7. I was able to use "davemon64.inf" (elsewhere on this forum) to get my resolutions back, but the control panel won't let me edit anything.

Is there a workaround for this? Never had to fight it like this before.....

Thanks, mark

mhalsan - I have the same problem... If I find anything about it I'll post something here, but until then, we seem to have to use what we're given by default.

@Amorphous - everything that is presented at the stands always works flawless..it just a matter of time until people buy the crap and get home with it..and there "man wtf this is not what I have seen at CES". That is what happened with Samsung everything works flawless at every damn presentation milk and honey. I'm so pissed off I spent the money on the kit I could have bought another 295 but heck ...
@Nick - you comments are useless you are not helping anyone you are just making it worse ...stop taking the green side; your comments are not founded there is ghosting on DLPs too on CRTs on every damn technology that is today if you can not see it you have a problem

There is ghosting on these, but its not the massive ghosting at the top and bottom like you have. Its got a different name, Im not sure I remember atm. If it was the fault of the glasses or drivers the same ghosting would be seen on all monitors. It is not. We all know it isn't therefore its the monitors fault.

Samsung are known for using different panels in their displays, which is why the 2233RZ works well on displays, but not for everyone at home. They display the ones with the good panels.
Acer are not known for this (AFAIK) so it shouldnt be an issue here.

well
this at this point i think we can stop this discussion
if you cannot see ghost effect on CRT monitor i have 3 points of vision:
1) you switched off 3d stereoscopic and think you still use it (imagination issue)
2) you set depth on 10% or less (reason of using 3d on this depth strange for me)
3) you really cant see this effect (probably you have eyes issues, may be some kind of abnormal)

you lucky, enjoy it. but now i can see clearly it's no reason to discuss ghosting problem with you =). becouse CRT ghosting is FACT with some technical prooves becouse of CRT technology issues
no offensive just waisting time with reading ur big posts with my poor english =P
underline: no offensive just funny to read about CRT no ghosting after i spent load of time studying this =D

ps of course i mean ghost effect of whole picture that much worth then LCD one, not top and bottom issues

@ksyon - I do not have the same ghosting as the 2233RZ. I do have slight ghosting, but this is expected on all monitors, and unless I look specifically for it, I never notice it. Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, I don't have any ghosting that affects the appearance at all...

I have no eye issues, I can see 3D fine, I always use 100% (or more when possible), and I do in fact have 3D vision turned on.
Also, in the link you posted, they guy that made that topic stated "here is proof that its the monitors fault" and you are using it as evidence its the drivers? This makes no sense...
If you are happy to turn down your brightness, go for it, it works, trust me, Ive tested it. But everything gets fairly dark and hard to see, so its up to you which you prefer. (I havn't done this with the LCD, just my CRT. It only works on my CRT, probably not the LCD)...

I have fiddled with video timings, no measurable improvement.

Well I don’t own the Samsung; in fact I just received my 3dVision kit and monitor yesterday. Reading through this I am shocked to find that the Samsung seems to MAYBE be a less than quality panel. I always thought Samsung had great quality. Then again the debate still rages on if it is the monitor, glasses, or drivers so maybe it is a good panel getting a bad wrap.

I have little experience with the 3d vision. I have done no tweaking with it but I did get to try it out a bit last night on default settings. The panel I got is the new Alienware OptX Full HD 120hz 23”. There is very minor (almost have to look for it) ghosting when you have a dark object over a light background, and there is, again very minor, ghosting across maybe the top inch and a half of the screen in some scenes. (I noticed it in Batman AA during the intro when you’re taking Joker in and Croc comes out of the elevator. If I was looking at joker Croc’s head was near the top of the screen and I could see a faint double image)

I found the ghosting to be extremely negligible. It bothered me very little in Batman AA and considering since I generally am looking at the center of the screen at a crosshair (I usually only play FPS) it wont be a problem for me.

So with the Alienware OptX and literally absolutely no tweaking in any manner, all the color/contrast/brightness settings on the monitor have been unchanged since I plugged it in the first time as well as any settings in regards to the drivers I did not touch.

With that either some drivers or some very minor tweaking will surely make ghosting on this monitor so negligible you wont notice it when your “in the game.”

Also, note the Nuremburg 24H 3D HD Video didn’t ghost at all ever.

Another thing … as with any 3d your eyes take time to adjust and I found the longer I played the less ghosting I saw.

The samsung is the problem, not the glasses or drivers... If you had the time to read this whole thread, you would see the reasons for this.
Good to hear there is very little ghosting on your monitor, and even better to hear that you're happy to put up with it :P

Glad to see another good review on a 3D monitor

The Samsung top bottom ghosting can be lowered by keeping the shutters open for even less time, which would allow less of the opposite eye image through. This would come at a cost of even less brightness per eye. That's what he is talking about.

Well it hasnt been all peaches and creams with the Alienware for everyone. Maybe I got a panel that is running a bit better, but I have read other people describe ghosting on it in the same manner as the Samsung. Saw Avatar tonight. No ghosting there. Came home and made mine more apparent for a moment lol, but Avatar is prerecoreded and perfected and I still saw some problems but not many.

Bump time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I just bought the nvidia 3d vision kit the other day since it was my birthday. I have to say though, that I knew that some people were experiencing problems like this, but since I had never experienced any ghosting with my monitor, I thought that it wouldn't be a problem in 3d.

Boy, was I wrong.

I have the same problem as most of us do: real bad ghosting at the top, and, in some situations, at the bottom too. I spoke with an NVIDIA support representative today, and after discussing the problem he had concluded that the monitor was to blame. And before I forget, I'll go ahead and tell you I'm using the Viewsonic VX2265wm.

After that discussion, I went to the viewsonic site to find out what I should do, and after going through their support system, I was recommended I contact their support team to get a new cable.

So, I've contacted them, and I'm waiting for a reply, but in the mean time I wanted to ask all what you did about the ghosting. I more want to hear whether any of you decided to play around with different dvi-d cables and if you were able to get rid of the ghosting as a result of that. I think what I'm going to do is, just wait to see what viewsonic has to say about this, and if they blame it on nvidia, then I'll just go ahead and return this vision kit. If they RMA my monitor (I feel that's highly unlikely, but you never know) or give me a chance to get a new cable, I'll go ahead and give this vision kit one more shot before my 30 days are up for retuning this thing for a full refund.

Hi

I have the Viewsonic and I get some ghosting throughout my screen but only with high contrast scenes. I can happily live with it.

I have experimented with frequency settings (easily checked using the nVidia 3D test thingy) and I have noticed that ghosting is dramatically reduced if I lower the frequency to 100hz: 120 worst - 110 better - 100 best. Unfortunately I cant keep the settings lower than 120hz because it does my head in and 110 makes the background light flicker.

Has anyone else noticed this?
