Problem with FSX and 3D Vision
  1 / 2
Hopefully it's not just me having this problem. When running Microsoft FSX in 3D, certain screen will not show. Mainly, the screen after ending a mission will not show, only get a black screen. Also the settings screen is also black if you try and bring it up during a mission. Turning 3D off in the control panel fixes the problem. Alternately you can Alt+Enter to exit from full screen mode will also allow the screen to show properly.

I have the same problem when FSX is loading the screen is black but once its finnished loading its fine but if you want to change settings in game the screen goes black i have to ESC to end flight and then change my settings go back and restart the flight. But I only have this problem with the Samsung monitor 2233RZ,with the dlp projectors running and 3d vision set to CRT everything works great.

I had that same problem the first time I ran it after install. The 3D worked and it looked amazing but it was annoying trying to quit out of the game and go to the menu, since the window with "end flight" is invisible.

I rebooted the computer and now the 3D isn't working at all. I can hit ctrl-T and the IR block lights up green, but no 3D. FSX is not showing up at all in my installed games list in the Vision Driver control panel.

Does anyone know how to make the Vision drivers recognize an installed game?

I could reinstall the entire FSX and Acceleration add-on, but Microsoft gives you a limited amount of activations and I'd rather avoid reinstalling it.

Thanks

Did you check the registry to verify whether there is an entry for FSX under the Nvidia settings?

That's a bit beyond my technical skill, digging around in the registry. But dig I shall.

So I spent the last 3 hours reinstalling FSX from scratch:

Reinstalled FSX: 3d works fine!

Installed FSX SP1: 3d still works! Blows my mind in fact.

Installed FSX SP2: (with DX10 goodness): WOW! This is why I bought these glasses!

Installed FSX Acceleration Add-on: 3d is gone. Back to the same problem as before. No 3D. Hit Ctrl- T and the IR emitter lights up..but monitor still 2D.

So I think it's the Acceleration add-on pack that is doing it somehow. Maybe it changes the .exe file somehow and the Vision driver can't see it anymore. I don't know. There's no way to manually add a game in the Vision driver, and that sucks.

I guess I gotta reinstall everything all over again except FSX:A, since there is no way to uninstall just the add-on, and that sucks too.

Anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT: You CAN uninstall just the add-on! In the remove program thing you can select it and click "change". And FSX IS BACK IN 3D!

Hm, I have Acceleration pack installed, and it works for me - kinda... I'm wondering, do you get flickering pretty badly in FSX? It doesn't really matter what I have installed, it does this - basically the glasses will flicker on/off at random speeds making it unplayable. It is always there, sometimes more than others. I've experimented with running it at different resolutions and graphics settings, but it always seems to be there...

Hi,

Works for me, but only up to a point.

- DX9 mode is fine unless I switch on 'Light Bloom', in which case 3D is disabled.
- DX10 mode activates, but one view is smaller than the other. In other words, if the left eye's frame is 1680x1050, the right eye's frame is approx. 1024x768 and the rest of the screen is black. DX10 mode is therefore unusable.
- Lights are at screen depth (as described by NVidia). Has anyone tried one of the light-replacement add-ons to see if they help?
- A second monitor (non-3D) shows 'out of memory' when 3D mode is enabled.

Using the 108 drivers from the website with the Samsung monitor on Windows 7 RC x64; i7 920, 6Gb RAM, GTX275 896Mb.

Cheers,
Jim

Yeah okay. I reinstalled everything and it's the DX10 mode that's doing it, not the addon. Turning off DX10 preview and restarting the game gets me back to 3D mode.

I guess I can trade fancy waves and shadows on the bumpit controls for 3D.

I'm getting that too. The glasses and the green light on the emitter just turn off for a few seconds once in a while, but the screen is still split into 3D. Then they come back on. It's annoying.

Hi guys,
Just a few tips for dealing with the annoying FSX issues.

To enable 3D in FSX make SURE that the "DX10 preview" is turned off in the settings

Turn off bloom AT ALL TIMES

When you wanna end a flight or exit FSX, I know the exit screen won't appear. To get around this, either uncheck "prompt on exit" in the FSX settings, or when you press escape to end a flight and the black screen appears, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose task manager. You'll see the task manager on the screen corner but you'll also see the "end flight" prompt window, and press end flight just as you would without the issue.

And the flashing..I don't see flashing in my FSX setup. It happened once about 2 months ago, but never since, no matter where I fly or what I fly. I have FSX + Acceleration + SP2 on two GTX285 in SLI, Asus Rampage II Extreme mobo and Samsung 2233RZ.
I encountered "Flashing" ( which is a short time off glasses not shuttering ) each time I started FSX. I guess the glasses get out of sync somehow. I also encountered this on any other game I tried except Bioshock and Bunout Paradise. It was reduced to an acceptable rate by changing the Transmitter Mode in the Stereo Setup Wizard. Sorry but after all its a bit frustrating for a 600 € Setup. Please fix this NVIDIA.

I wonder if I get flashing because I don't have enough video memory or something... I have a single 9800GTX, but my framerate is constantly above 30 fps at the settings & resolution I run, but get the flashing. Guess I'll find out once I upgrade my video card some time in the future.
