Hey guys, so angry I signed up to voice my opinion.
  1 / 3
Hey guys, how are we all? Me and my cousin play PlanetSide 2 and BF3. We both decided to build new PCs for this purpose. Now, I have a 3DTV LG in my living room. We really wanted to get the GTX 680. Since my TV is PASSIVE, I have come across a minor, little innocent problem...the drivers. The passive Nvidia drivers only support selected screens? Did they forget that umm...the entire population on this planet have a diverse range of 3D hardware, whether TV or monitor? I mean are they serious or what? They are trying to what, start some sort of monopoly? I am so disappointed, so frustrated and angry. We are both going for the bloody 7970 Radeon cards...I mean this is the first time we are getting anything BUT a Geforce card. So upset, why is Nvidia doing this? I have read about the tutorial hack .ini file, but I do not want to do stuff like that ffs. Someone please tell me I am wrong, show me a way so we can go and buy those bloody gtx 680s and enjoy 3d gaming via 3Dvision...please

Welcome to the nvidiaworld... They do not intend to make any attempt to make the 3d-phenomenon more mainstream but instead tries to make as much money as they can while killing it. Sorry for your inconvenience.

Well LG could always pay to have their 3D Passive TVs supported by Nvidia's "Optomized for GeForce" But, I'd certainly agree that the support offered by 3DTV Play is severely lacking. These Passive 3D TVs need an interlaced format to be input, so that lag is reduced by not needing to post process and convert the current input format that is offered. I jumped ship to AMD Radeon, simply because I can use my projector for stereoscopic gaming with TriDef at 1280x800@120Hz or 1366x768@120Hz with no problems. With Nvidia, it runs perfectly fine in the background but there are huge red letters plastered across my screen screaming "Warning do not attempt to use this resolution because we say so"

Ohh man, I was hoping people would be more optimistic here, not joining me in the dumps lol. I guess the truth hurts...why are they doing this to 3d? I'd imagine they know that they are killing it.. Do you guys think TriDef would work for an LG Passive 47inch LED LCD tv? Should I get Radeon or Geforce for it? Do you guys recommend any other set ups for my LG TV, because I really want 3D man. Bloody hell, and the fact that there is a way to easily trick the drivers into supporting your tv proves that it would be stupidly easy for Nvidia to just support all passive sets.

I guess it's the way nvidia satisfies the screaming stockholder pack in an attempt to play financially safe. Betting on a future technology with a certain risque seems not existing anymore for stockholders, neither companies... Tridef ignition is not hardware dependent and works with both nvidia as well as ati. They seem to have a trial period of 14 days so you should be able to check them out before buying.

@primalinstinkt you can try using an EDID override. I also use a Passive 3DTV in my living room and I have 3DTV Play running on it like a charm. Try the following: Download the attached inf or go to http://blog.bagearon.com/downloads/NVIDIA-UN-3DTV.inf Plug in your usb emitter Expand the Computer and then Monitors nodes Find your TV (most likely Generic PNP Monitor), right click, and select Update Driver Software Click Browse my computer for driver software Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer Click have disk… Browse to the location of the inf downloaded in step 1, select it, click Open, and click OK If multiple models appear, select Generic for the manufacturer and then select NVIDIA Unsupported 3DTV (EDID Override) Click Next, wait for the installation to complete Reboot and your Display should now be 3D Ready Oh and if you want to see what any game looks like in 3D then check out http://www.3Dizzy.com We have tons of great 3D videos that you can watch on your 3DTV regardless of 3DTV Play. Good Luck!

All this does is enable a 3D HDTV that is unsupported with the same crap support as he would get with his Passive TV if it's supported. Nvidia only offers a line interlaced format Zalman displays via a special patch or a couple of Acer monitors that are supported via "Optomized for GeForce" The Acer passive is also supported at 1920x1080@60 per eye. Your TV gets support at 1920x1080@24 per eye framepacked. Your TV must then convert this, which adds unneeded lag. So yah, 3DTV Play is awesome. Just what you want and need.

@3Dizzy, hey man, thanks for the info, but that is 3Dtv play via a transmitter? I do not have a transmitter and am looking for a way to get it working via interlaced with polarized glasses... I think those passive monitors drivers can be used to overwrite my 3dtv and make it "optimized for geforce" and then it will work under that pretext? @Dman, with that lag you are talking about, I think if I use the VGA-Dvi port into the tv, I can run optimized for geforce 3Dvision in PC mode, without losing input lag, because the TV will not be recognizing nor rendering any 3D effect, it will just be in PC mode. The drivers and GPU will be doing all the rendering? The only cost being a little bit of sharpness lost due to not having HDMI1.4a..but then again if I did have HDMI plugged in, I would recieve input lag like you said..so it is a win win. Does this sound right? Because this is all the theory I have read and learned in a few days. I really have no idea lol

Hey guys, just thought I would update on my findings. AMD seems to have what we want here. They are in support of making 3D main stream and their cards support all 3DTVs that can take a HDMI1.4a cable. It is called HD3D...I am not sure what hole Nvidia is in, but this HD3D is taking off and now me and my cousin have both bought a 7970 Gigabyte OC Ghz edition card, that is both cheaper and faster than a gtx680. It works great with Tridef and we now play in full real 3D. It is the best!! I can not believe Nvidia are trying to keep it so private when their rivals are making it mainstream!! AMD is going to kill Nvidia in a few years if the Geforce series stay in a ecosystem like it is now!!! ahhahahha what idiots.

Shouldn't his TV be supported using framepacked 3DTV Play. Which is what a standalone blu-ray player would output. IMO 3D is far from mainstream, Everything doesn't work well together. There are huge divides. My VG278H does not work properly with ATI. It does not work at all with tridef if you have a nvidia card. If you assume that everything will work perfectly when going into 3D you are bound to be disappointed. Finally I see no reason for your TV not to be supported by 3DTV Play as I assume it's HDMI 1.4a. My impression was that any big 1.4a TV could be added to 3DTV Play if it was not allready supported.

Flugan, I am aware that it is far from mainstream and was really disappointed when I first started researching 3D and slowly realized what Nvidia was doing. My TV will not work with 3DTVplay because it is a Passive TV, and 3DTV play only supports Active. In order for Passive 3D to work with a Nvidia card you have to purchase one of their monitors LOL. Kingping, I am aware of that and overwrites, but I do not want to do stuff like that. I just want everything legit, and I mean since I am going to pay $500 for a GPU, they should let me play on whatever screen/monitor I want. I was really upset when I first discovered what Nvidia were doing with 3D, but now I am very very happy. I am now an ATI fanboy lol. I used to LOVE GEFORCE and all my past cards of the last decade have been Nvidia. But now I bought an ATI 7970, because AMD are trying to make 3D mainstream for us consumers. It is made to be run on any monitor you have, and I love AMD Radeon for LIFE. It is mad 3d and it has made my life so easier. I will never buy a geforce card again. Even if they support all tvs, which one day they will, when they realise that AMD has surpassed them. Suckers.

Kingping,
primalinstinkt, i have a LG PASSIVE 3DTV and 3DTV play works perfect!!!.....you have to use the TV glasses. LG Passive have none flickering, Crosstalk or Ghosting. Maybe your TV its not supported (EDID stuff), but you can get any LG EDID that its supported by 3DTV play in order to get 3DTV Play to work. Try the 3DTV play 14 days trial and see, maybe your TV works with the original EDID: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-14day-trial.html 3DTV play its limited to 720p/60 or 1080p/24.....for playing i recommend 720p/60 and enable AA features in game or NV inspector. I also have Tridef, works fine in 1080p SBS mode....but i tell you...the 3D quality of 3DTV play is better than Tridef. In 3DTV play playing with depth (100%) and convergence (increase) values you get awesome 3D results.
