Can you use lower than 100Hz on a CRT? My CRt can do 1280x960@100Hz, but I'd prefer 1600x1200@85
I used the old Nvidia 3D Stereo glasses with a GeForce 4 way back in the day, and I loved the experience! I was sad when I could no longer get them to work on 7800GT and 8800GT video cards. I'm glad to see that Nvidia has a new implementation for their modern video cards, and that they still support CRT monitors (I have no intention of replacing my excellent 21" CRT). I am on the verge of buying these and getting back into 3D gaming!
So, here's the thing... I used the old glasses at a lower refresh rate (I think 75Hz) and really wasn't bothered by the flicker. I see that the new glasses say they require a minimum of 100Hz to operate. What I want to know is, can you use them with a lower refresh rate like 85Hz? I understand that Nvidia would not want users with 60Hz CRTs to buy these expensive glasses and return them when the experience is unsatisfactory, but I would much rather run my games at a higher resolution with a slightly flickery image. I know from my GeForce 4 experience that it won't bother me.
Has anybody tried this? Does it work, or the drivers prevent you from doing it?
I'm also interested in hearing from anyone who used both the old GeForce 4-era glasses and these new ones. How do they compare?

i too use crt with the nvidia glasses. i'm really not satisfied with the ghosting. I would suggest keeping an eye on craigslist for a used 20"+ crt and check the specs. you want one that has a HORIZONTAL refresh rate of 130khz or more. this will allow you to do 1600x1200@100hz. this is what both of my 22" crts can do. I got my 2nd crt from someone cleaning out thier garage for a pack of 25 blank cd's. you'll realize that large fast crt's aren't just falling out of the sky but if you keep an eye out you can find them.
just know that crt is the worst for ghosting because of the time it takes for the image to stop illuminating. Personally i finally have the have $200 for one of the viewsonic lcd's and now they are all GONE. so now it's closer to $300 for one..
Good luck with the crt. personally i rarely use my glasses now because i'm just not happy with the performance. I'm guessing it's part of thier sales plan to never have these set up for people to see them in action because they realy are NOT perfect by a long shot.

I can't really notice much flicker, and I'm pretty sure the glasses still activate a refresh rates as low as 65hz.
