Avegant Glyph Headset.. Side-by-Side
I was looking at possibly grabbing this headset.. with a long HDMI cable can be comfortable for playing in bed with a Steam controller and Big Picture. My question is it supports Side-by-Side.. I've seen some posts about 3DTV hacking and what not can someone point me to a link or let me know how you would play a game in SBS if you've got something like this (i.e. a monitor that supports SBS)... I see games like Trine etc that have options for SBS but I am curious as to how you could play any game in SBS if you've got a monitor (headset) that supports it.

Dx11 games using a community fix, have the capability. Dx9 game using Helix mod, do not have the feature OpenGL games using the wrapper by helifax has the feature, but may not work on all displays TriDef has a SbS output The threads, shouldn't be too hard to find https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/824274/

I am curious of how this looks like with "bigscreen". do you have the impression of beeing in a 3D environment when using SBS or does ist look like youre playing a game "on a big screen" ? If you like provide us with a Screenshot.

My impression, is that it is like holding a 23 inch monitor at arms length. It can not be used with a standalone Blu-ray player, since it can not accept a 1080 input signal :(

Well it seems that a custom resolution of 1280x720@120Hz works with this using CVT reduced blank. Also a manual downsampled 1080P@120 custom resolution works and looks good. However, since it is supported via 3DTV Play, these custom resolutions do not work in 3D, due to the 720@60 and 1080@24 restrictions. An EDID override, would likely circumvent this. Audio is very hit and miss with this unit, for whatever reason sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't :( I can never get the images centered well within the viewing area. I bought the $129 one on NewEgg from a 3rd party seller, it's possible that it might be a second/factory reject/flawed model, dunno.

The audio issue appears to be due to what I think is a limitation in the mini HDMI connection. Works fine 99% of the time but once 3DTV kicks in, it can drop the audio signal. You basically just have to shut the game, flip the power off and on on the Glyph and turn on the game again. I've had a few games come on in 2560/1440 fine in 3D... main point is that the resolution has to be 1280/720 @ 60hz in the glyph, even if the game is being supersampled behind it (if you want 3D to work) Aside from having the audio drop out sometimes when you turn on 3DTV in a game, I think its awessom... can't beat 3DTV out of the box for that price and the image looks really good at 1280... looks easily like 1920/1080

Are you referring to the very bottom corners not being in full view? Because that is pretty much par for the course, although you can try it w/o a nose piece and also even take out the nosepiece holder.. which will bring it even closer in to your eyes. Using the headstrap for leverage it works (i.e. instead of the nose piece)

Yah, no matter if adjust the IPD or the screen positioning, I can not get the full image centered in the viewing area. If you had the same issue with corners being cut off, it must just be characteristic of the design. I kind of figured it was due to me having a fairly large head and the distance from the earcups to the front band not being long enough at max adjustment.

I think i might buy one for comparison to the hmz. i do like it's design better. I want to see what options it has on the inside. I see alot on ebay for under 150 bucks.
