6600 GT 3d stereo in NFS 3 Hot Pursuit Problems running Direct3d for 3d stereo
I'm not one to keep up with the latest greatest, obviously. I just bought and installed the AnotherEye 2000 3d stereo PC glasses and have them working correctly in the Nvidia settings test pages (where the big Nvidia logo zooms in and out of the little cage along with the letters N v i d i a). I'm using version 91.31 for both video and 3dstereo drivers. I have setup the game .exe file in the Nvidia 3dstereo game configuration. But I can't seem to be able to use my vid card - Nvidia 6600 GT PCI - with Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (yes, it's an old-ass game). When I go Start--> Programs --> Electronic Arts --> NFS3 --> 3dSetup and choose the only thing other than the Software Renderer, in this case "Direct3d Device 1", I get a message saying that my vid card is not supported by the game. HUH?! Has it changed that much in just a few years even with the 6600 GT which is by no means a "recent" card? I guess so. I read a post somewhere on the net that said if you see the only other choice for 3d rendering as "Direct3d Device #" where # is any number, that it would not work with the card.
SO, is there a workaround somehow for this? I've already downloaded the demo for NFS Carbon, and I think I can get that to work with the glasses, but I sure would like to have a full version of something to play using these glasses. This is my first game app to be played with the glasses. I'm hoping that 2 other old games I own - F/A-18 Super Hornet, and Mech Warrior 4 will work. But after this, I'm not expecting much from either of them. Seems like HalfLife renders pretty tight with 3d stereo.

Well looks to be to Old to play in 3D Especially with the newer older card that game even had support for Glide and Direct 3d but that was when D3D was new?? Dont hold your breath with that game.
I have JF/A-18 and it works in 3D but excpect anomolies when looking at the Wings and SlowDown in A-A Mode with 3D Enabled. Not sure about the other game MW4??
Usually the game will work if it is Open GL or D3D game try getting some DirectX 8 or 9 games..

I ran into this a while back, I think that EA uses a standard rendering library and an updated version of the library may get it working.
The problem is not really the video cards fault, the title was written with 3Dfx support (if you can remember the Voodoo.)
I do recall having the game working with 4xAA on an nvidia card (maybe an FX5200? Although possibly a Geforce2 GTS)
The real problem may be that it is a much older version of DirectX, like 3 or 5, not even 7, which is broken since I moved to 98SE, nevermind XP/2000 and DirectX 8.1
Here is the link to the EA ftp files: ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/patches/nfs3/
I found a patch, but I haven't yet tried it (I don't have a 6600GT anymore, but I do have a 6200TC in one of my other machines, if it works with my 7900 in this machine it should be fine though).

This should get you the proper Porsche unleashed file. renaming it voodoo2a.dll and putting it in the nfs3 folder should get you DirectX7 support with 1024x768 resolution, if you run the game with -voodoo2 on the end of it (just change the link on your desktop or start menu to add that on the end.)
I don't know if it will work in 3D, but at least it is directX 7.

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed - Porsche Unleashed\Drivers
(maybe look for a demo of NFS Porsche unleashed).
You will have to copy "dx7z.dll" and do some stuff to it.
I don't know exactly how to do it, but here is what I have found so far:

(I found this from the above post, note that it is for "NFS4" but the same trick should work for NFS3)
