Sharp Aquos 46D85U, Samsung LN40B640 or Samsung PN42B450 for 3D?
Hi everyone,

I need help figuring out if any of these TV's support 3D Vision, and if so which would do the best job of it.

I bought my 3D Glasses off someone with a Sharp Aquos who says the 3D graphics on it look great, however I'm not sure what model he has. I found a post that seemed to indicate at least one model of the Aquos (E77U) does NOT support 3D (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?act=Print&client=printer&f=40&t=100471).

The same link has a post by KoukiFC3S which says the Samsung can take a 120Hz DVI input signal, but nothing further.

I've seen mixed reviews about the Samsung PN series (i.e. hard to get 3D working properly on them, and poor quality in 3D mode at least compared to the Samsung 22" LCD monitor that seems to be the 3D "standard" at the moment).

I need to exchange a non-3D TV at eOutletCanada for a 3D one, and these three are the only ones I can find which I think have a chance of supporting 3D Vision. I need to get this figured out in the next day or two.

Which of these three TV's would the forum in all its wisdom advise me to go with? Is there anyone out there who owns one of these and can attest to success using the 3D Vision system on it?

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

3d stereo does work on the PN42B450, however, there are a couple of problems with it. First of all, the screen has a native resolution of 1024x768 with non-square pixels. Unfortunately, for 3d vision to work on this tv it must be at native mode only. That means that in any game without a seperate aspect ratio control will look squished. In addition to that, this screen has pretty bad green tinge ghosting. Others say they have been able to relieve the ghosting, but I haven't had much luck.

That said, the tv is pretty cheap and has absolutely amazing picture quality and 3d movies look pretty stellar on it. The blacks are very deep and the color is the nicest I have seen on a set in person. It is a wonderful screen, and it does indeed support 3dvision, but with limitations.

That is the only one I know of since I have it, so hopefully my knowledge is at least slightly helpful in your decision. Good luck.

Thanks Pahncrd for the reply. Good to know that it's a decent screen for TV, though I'd rather go for one without the 3D caveats if possible.

Noticed some conflicting information about a 120Hz input on the LN40B640 today; apparently MrSamsung says its not possible:

That leaves the Aquos 46D85U. Can anyone comment on it?

Don't need 120hz when using chekerboard format.
I am using Samsung PS50B450 (Aussie model) and I game in 3D fine on it, I push the info for signal and it says only 60hz.
Checkerboard format 3D works differently from the 120hz panels if you want to read about it.

But yeh as long as the TV has a 3D synch port on the back your good to go with Nvidia 3d Vision (DLP generic mode) on it.
Besides the 3D aspect, it really is a great panel picture quality wise in 2D

i've got the PN50B450. For 3d i wouldn't recommend it. Your stuck with 1024x768 4:3 or 1360x768. Allot of older games don't support 1360x768 so allot of times your stuck with 1024x768. The screen has horrible green ghosting on dark area's. Even with hours off tweaking i cannot get rid of it. I use this tv for watching movies and playing xbox. But not 3d anymore; i got the samsung rz2233 and the Acert H5360 both are better at 3d and don't use checkerboarding.(Which looks horrible imho)

You can buy this screen if you want to use 3d as a gimmick once a year. But for serious 3d gaming i would recommend a different screen.

Hey,
I have the Samsung PN42B450 and I was wondering if these nvidia vision glasses will work without a computer attached. IE with my ps3. Samsung left all its previous 3d customers like me out in the cold when they switched to these new tvs being that they no longer sell the glasses that will work for my tv.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot,
Jack

No, Nvidia 3d glasses won't work without the computer. the Ps3 3D deals are being finalized but the PS3 games most likely won't work with your TV in 3D.

If PS3 does announce checkerboard support with its games, you could try ordering edimentional glasses or some other brand as they do connect directly in to the TV. Just make sure PS3 can support 1024x768 checkerboard before hand...

I even don`t understand why the 3D Mode ist only activateable at 1024x768 or 1360x768... If the 3D Mode could be activated at any resolution up to 1360x768 my Problems were gone... I didn`t find the strength to tell my girlfriend that the TV we bought in November last year because of my impatience and that i want wan`t 3D isn`t compatible with the future 3D Stuff. My only hope is now that the ps3 will support checkerboard in the 3D Update and that the ps3 will finally support 1360x768 like the xbox 360 so that i can activate 3D Mode....

sorry for my howling :">
