PLEASE ANDREW ... three wishes for the new year!

I totally disagree. Whilst as a community we can (and should) ask for more, its a graphic hardware company that should push the tech for us. Into the newest games, deserving that nvidia splash screen. and I dont care about dx or microsoft. I care about s3d and its support.

Zloth - I do respect what you wrote up there, but you are trying to teach me something I already know. What I am trying to do - is to ruffle hairs here. Otherwise you can just theoritize. I need action.

Hi Andrew!

Any news on that topic??

I'd still love to get more depth on my Acer.

1. Custom maximum depth
The registry “hack” doesn’t work for me and for my 130 inch projection I feel the depth is way too small. Why not implement a small checkbox where you verify, that you are aware of possible “health risk” and then make a field accessible, where you can enter any number you want above 100%? Should be a piece of cake to implement.
This above 100% option should not work only for games but also on the stereoscopic player and players like PowerDVD.

1. I agree with you and we will add it to our roadmap since its needed for projectors.

Whilst it's vaguely encouraging that this issue has at least been acknowledged (having been requested repeatedly for a couple of years), please don't "add it to your roadmap", just tell one of your devs to fix it today -it's a 5 minute job for any competent coder (in fact rather less than that as the monitor size option was already in the old stereoscopic drivers and could be re-enabled with a simple copy/paste).

Edit: Just noticed the date this was "added to the roadmap" <sigh>. What has your team achieved in the last 6 months which kept them so busy that they didn't have time for this 5 minute job? Have they crossed many things off the roadmap in the intervening period?

2. We currently require profiles to be generated in house. We can explore some options but I dont have anything concrete on a roadmap yet.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about the whole 3D Vision experience since launch has been the way that "plug and play"-ability has been prioritized at the expense of compatability and user control. As a result we've seen monitors which used to work suddenly cease to do so after a driver update, forcing owners to wait for a fix in future drivers (whereas if all the settings were exposed then they could fix the problem themselves immediately). There have even been cases where users have had to build physical hardware to adjust delay timings (to fix top of screen ghosting) to get round the fact that these settings have been locked. The underlying assumption here on the part of nVidia seems to be that all users are idiots who can't be trusted to tweak any settings themselves. By all means put these controls on an "Advanced settings" page in the control panel, or even add an "Are you sure you're not an idiot?" pop-up which users would have to click through in order to access them, just make all the settings adjustable by the user somewhere.

3. I'd love to support all games, and I always try to do it. Some game developers are more interested in 3D than others. The community is the biggest ally I have to help convince game developers to make their game better. So get active on their forums, twitter, facebook and let developers know for new titles coming you want 3D Vision support.
Whilst I acknowledge there is some value in the community requesting 3D support direct from game devs in letting them know that this feature is desired, the potential influence we have is miniscule compared to that of nVidia. Something like two thirds of gamers have an nVidia card so game devs have to ensure their products work well with those cards as they simply can't afford to write off two thirds of their potential market. If nVidia simply refused to participate in any cross promotional activity for any games which weren't also 3D Vision compatible and also refused to give the developers any support whatsoever until they'd taken steps to ensure 3D compatibility then we'd see 3D Vision support for every game at launch automatically.
Cheers,
DD

P.S. For what it's worth, my three most desired features would be:

1. OpenGL support for Geforce cards (a feature that was removed from the stereoscopic drivers when 3D Vision launched for no apparent reason).
2. Full user control of all settings, including the ability to have multiple profiles per game (to enable different settings for in-cockpit view vs chase view etc), and the ability to choose which eye is offset (left/right/both in order to deal with games which use ironsights for aiming).
3. A proper OSD with convergence, front plane, back plane etc.

Having said that, given that your team only seem capable of adding 1 new feature every 3 years (the ability to display non-fullscreen 3d in a web browser), I'm not exactly holding my breath.

ta0801 and rmccle,

I wrote a tutorial a few weeks back that adressed the first issue (Projector Depth). I have been using this now for every game it is works flawlessly 100% of the time, without any issues. it even works on games which dont respond well to tabbling out - such as the Witcher 2.

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=212298

If you find that the routine is not long enough and your game loads fully before the file can alter the registry properly, you can simply increase the number from 10,000 to whatever you desire. (i think 10,000 lasts for about a minute (depending on your processor) - so its usually long enough)

If you find the post useful, please reply to the post, to 'bring it back to life' as it just seemed to die instantly, although i think it pretty much solves the projector depth issue... until it is fixed officially that is.
