Any word on The Darkness II ?
Evenin' all.

Just got done replaying the first Darkness as I am very excited for the sequel that is about two weeks away,

I was wondering if there has been any word on this (tried searching but haven't come up with much) as I think a game like that will benefit greatly from 3d Vision, the tentacles firing out into the screen with depth etc.

Either way, very excited to play, anyone else looking forward?

Just ran through the demo, it lets you play for about 30 minutes, mix of cutscenes and game action.

First things first, you have to uninstall PhysX driver from control panel or the demo will not run. Its a known issue, they may issue a fix for it sometime but right now you have to uninstall PhysX.

The game looks pretty good in 3D Vision but not without problems:

1) 2D crosshair, contextual cues, UI/HUD. Biggest issue is the 2D Crosshairs as you spend a good bit of time shooting at things. If you could disable the in-game crosshair and use Nvidia laser sight, that'd improve the game significantly.

2) Slight halo issue around objects in some cases, but not bad and not in every scene.

3) Minor shadowing/dynamic lighting issues (most noticeable walking through the restaurant).

4) Allows full control over depth and convergence using Nvidia's wheel/hotkeys. Game looks really good with a mix of depth and convergence, but 2D crosshairs remain a problem. Tentacles look really good in 3D with lots of pop-out.

5) I settled on ~30 Depth high convergence to get the crosshairs manageable, but if we can disable crosshair I'd go much higher depth and convergence.
Overall, the game is like a mix of Prototype, Mafia 2 and Darksiders. Mix of FPS, mutant abilities, and upgrades while collecting things in gruesome ways. Definitely earns its M rating with the graphic violence. The graphics are also cel shaded which is pretty common nowadays for games as its also a cheap way of anti-aliasing. Overall graphics aren't anything spectacular and there's very few graphics settings to change, but this may improve with final release if they have higher resolution textures and more settings. I'm not that hopeful though as this looks to be a multi-platform release with a straight console port on the PC. I noticed PhysX was listed but I don't know if this game is getting the full hardware PhysX treatment or not, but given you had to uninstall the PhysX drivers just to get the game to run, its probably CPU PhysX only at this point.

I'll try and post some pics, but right now I would rate this game as Good with 3D Vision. If we were able to disable in-game crosshairs, or 2K fixed crosshairs to render in 3D along with a few of the minor halo issues, it could be Excellent or even 3D Vision Ready.

Posted pics on 3D Vision Live because I'm tired of having to constantly workaround the 10MB limit here: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/chizow/album/4f1f65d53785016d74000096/

Also looks like 2K already fixed the PhysX issue with a Steam update.

I played through on the download from steam. Didnt need to mess with PX. Just wanted to say you can turn off the in game cross hairs by clicking the "Turn off HUD" option. I think thats what it was called. Anyway, played the whole demo like that with the 3D cross hairs on and it was great. There are some problems with lights but over all I would play this game in 3d for sure. The "Snakes" Look great in 3d writhing around in front of you, though the gory is a little much for me when he slices people in two while holding them up in front of you.

Nice, I totally missed that option to turn off HUD, I will have to check it out later with much higher depth and convergence, thanks!

Turning off the HUD worked out great, thanks for the tip. :)

I would say this game is probably Excellent since you can use the Nvidia crosshair and really crank up the depth and convergence to whatever you like and still be able to aim. You do lose the HUD indicators, like health and radar, but you still get contextual clues, subtitles etc. in 2D at screen depth. Overall though the 3D visuals are excellent and allow you to get tons of depth and pop-out and still have your gun/sights aligned in 3D. Still a few minor shadowing, lighting and halo issues that hopefully can be fixed at some point. I doubt they'll be fixed by release in about 2 weeks.

I uploaded a few more pics, last 6 are with max depth + nvidia crosshairs. For whatever reason the Nvidia crosshair only renders in one eye in the pics, but they work properly in-game.

If want replacements for the standard nVidia crosshairs (eg. proper gun sight crosshairs) try this.
