Let's make a giant list of all NVIDIA 3D Vision failures.

I don't use 3d-vision myself since my path has gone another way. I got a dual projector setup + an iz3d which rules nvidiastereo out. Don't think nvidia ever will implement support for alternative solutions like in the past but 3d-play is a step in the right dir.
My fave old school combos are 91.31 combo (91.31+91.31stereo), 93.81 combo and 169.21forceware+162.50stereo for multicpucoresupport (91.31 needs all but one cpucore disabled but some others seems more lucky than me in this regard).
All drivers need maximum winxp and up to and including 7950 card to work. The 7900gtx will do very well and i've even underclocked mine a tad in hope to extend lifetime... lol
With "newer" versions of the nvidiadriver you need a reghack to enable the classic control panel which contains the stereooptions. Copy this into a textfile, rename it to enableoldpanel.reg, doubleclick it and answer yes.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003
"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000000
I know the 169.21+162.50 needs this regfix while 91.31combo works fine without. Extra note as well: It seems that nvidia experimented on how to lock out certain hardwares via edid already in the 162.50stereo so you may need to do a "pinmod" to get all stereooptions available (otherwise only anaglyph will show). I manage this using vga-to-tv boxes which surprizingly works so i don't have in head directly which pin that should be bent away in the cable... The most hazzlefree setup is starting to use the 91.31combo, disable all but one cpucores and start from there. You can use either one extra bootline or nhancer to run applications using one cpu-core.
To make dual bootoptions you need to modify the boot.ini file in c:\ by adding:
"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Single Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /NUMPROC=1".
Like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Single Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /NUMPROC=1
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Dual Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
If your acer 5360 accepts vga i recommend running it through the vga-port and use ddc-glasses like e-dimensionals or similar. E-dims however are useless outside the oldschool stereodrivers so have this in mind. Getting a pair of working used ones is to prefer.
I never managed getting chronicles of riddick work in 3d while kotor worked fine! I don't know about jade empire.

The 3Dvision glasses are proprietary, they will only ever work with the new 3Dvision driver, annoying isn't it? /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' />
But if you can't get your Captain Crunch glasses working you should be able to use DLPlinks...

Well said. Nvidia seem to have done a pretty good job of alienating the user-base of the original 3D driver. I realise Nvidia wanted to make a user-friendly consumer product to bring 3D to the mainstream but the 3Dvision kit (and the muppet-mode 3d control-panel) should have been optional. Tying the use of the new feature-reduced driver to an expensive hardware purchase was a big mistake, and trying to limit it's use to "nvidia certified" displays only harms 3D adoption even further.

I too was there for the destruction of OPEN 3D support from Nvidia. I bought exclusively Nvidia cards back from the Win9X times for the 3D functionality. The removal of the OPEN 3D support was nothing short a dagger in the back to all of Nvidia's loyal 3D customers. I for one still feel the PAIN of that betrayal. I have HUNDREDS of DOLLARS of functional "Nvidia Reliant" equipment that is now rendered USELESS without drivers!

Give us time, we've only been doing 3D Vision now for a little over 2 years.
That is one of the biggest lines of BS ever uttered from Nvidia. It's just flat out lies! It may have been only 2 years since they released their own proprietary glass called "3D Vision" BUT they have been working on their 3D drivers for +10 years. The "3D Vision" Nvidia is currently marketing is nothing short of a forced obsolescence of non-Nvidia branded hardware which had fueled Nvidia's 3D development in the first place! They want a monopoly of the market and all the money that comes with it. PERIOD!
On a little side note. A 3D mouse pointer did exist as a hidden feature in the pre-monopoly drivers. It never really worked well and you needed a 3rd party utility to activate it but it did exist!

All that said, "3D Vision" is a solid product. Is the current version of the driver as good as their older non-proprietary one? Hell no! However it is still a good quality product. UNFORTUNATELY, I can never forget how it came about and the sensation of cold steal in my back!
I will also say the addition of a Nvidia Representative that is actually replying on their forms is a very good step in the right direction! Unfortunately I get the feeling most times the truth about issues is guarded to save face and that's a HUGE negative in my book!

I thinks its ironic that a company which spends so much money on PR and “community relations†managed to needlessly destroy loyalty of the very people who built the 3D scene in the first place, the pioneers who stuck with 3D through the dark-ages long before the Avatar crowd turned up. If it wasn’t for them “3Dvision†wouldn’t exist, nvidia would do well to remember that…
3d-visionglasses will only work if they as well as the projector supports dlp-link. I have no personal experience about dlp-link but eyeswapping seems common with those. Dlp-link might work if the projector supports dlp-link and accepts one of the options in the old-schooldriver.

heheh, I'm not saying the user has to mess with textures. You sound like Andrew trying to understand the basic logic of making the laser crosshair follow the mouse around, he just can't grasp that basic concept of setting an X,Y dynamically at X ms.
I understand what you are saying as I am a developer myself. But I don't think you get the whole picture. I'm not a 3D stereo programmer myself, so I can't really give info on what's involved in making a game fully 3DS compatible, however, I do know that textures may not be the ONLY thing that is wrong with these games as you seem to think..

I was being sarcastic. Second find a list of games nvidia supported with you third person proprietary software through nvidia drivers. You assume that nvidia has some mystery code that they can just apply to there software from 10 years ago that they can just apply to there software.
I'm about to shut you down buddy old pal. Here's a pic of my registry detailing some of the games that were supported on Nvidia's 3D forceware. Mind you that the real driver has even more all the way back to the earliest DX7 games. You want a list, here it is.
Notice all the Lithtech engine games, that's 2001 to 2005. Also it supported Doom 2, the Quake games, the Jedi Knight series, Hitman, battlezone, and many more. I even got MDK to work though it had severe issues, and that was DX6.
So please, next time research what you are talking about before you post.

And in response to the Steam games not being recognized thing. The old driver apparently recognized what game was being started not only by EXE but by unique DLL's also. As shown in my screenshot above. That way if two games were called AvP.exe then it would detect the conflict and look for a DLL in addition to the exe to determine which one it was.
Why the new driver doesn't do this, I'll never know.

This is very impressive, it's a 3rd party app too? Damn.
Do you still have a copy of this program or know where I can get it?
I'd like to see what eqzitara and Andrew think of this. :P

Dragon made it and it was called "Dragon 3D Stereo Game Utility". It didn't do anything more than just tweaking regvalues but was really helpful. I didn't use it much myself though. Edit: I have it and uploading right now since the original link didn't work.
Here it is but i doubt it will work with 3d-vision though. Doesn't hurt trying. :D

Likay,
Yes, he can use dlp-link and old skool driver. That's what I use with my DLP. And in my opinion 91.47 is a little better than 93.81 or 91.31.

TO NVIDIA!
Steam games are not recognised in your driver compatibility list when looking from desktop mode settings. Its a really small feature, but still, considering that most pc games are consumed via steam it seems pretty crucial to implement this. I really want to view the installed steam games and view each ones compatibility before running and trying a game.

Hi
I use Steam games all the time and dont have any compatibiltiy problems (I have about 75 games purchased via Steam).
Can you get me a list of games that dont work, and what the EXE name is on your hard drive of those games?

I cannot see the screenshot since we block the site and I cannot comment at all.

(I attached the screenshot)
A user on these forums made a 3rd party app that included a 3d stereo mouse pointer.
As you can see he made a stereo 3d cursor. From what I hear it WORKED at the expense of a high performance hit. But at the driver level implementing such a feature should be far more efficient as proven with nvidia's laser cross hair which functions VERY similar to a stereo 3d mouse cursor (statically in the middle vs dynamically move around).
My question is why a random user from the community can make a functioning 3d mouse cursor but NVIDIA cannot?
I wonder if NVIDIA thinks it's a waste of time because of the in game image tied to the mouse cursor, worried it might get in the way? The counter argument is that the in game mouse image can be made transparent with a 3rd party app or the .CUR files can be found and deleted from within the games folder.

"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000002
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000003
"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000000
Like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Single Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /NUMPROC=1
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXPPro Dual Core" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
If your acer 5360 accepts vga i recommend running it through the vga-port and use ddc-glasses like e-dimensionals or similar. E-dims however are useless outside the oldschool stereodrivers so have this in mind. Getting a pair of working used ones is to prefer.
I never managed getting chronicles of riddick work in 3d while kotor worked fine! I don't know about jade empire.

But could I use 3d vision glasses/dlp-link?

This is very impressive, it's a 3rd party app too? Damn.
Do you still have a copy of this program or know where I can get it?
I'd like to see what eqzitara and Andrew think of this. :P

Likay,
Yes, he can use dlp-link and old skool driver.

Thanks.

A user on these forums made a 3rd party app that included a 3d stereo mouse pointer.
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=32771
