I have the opportunity of buying an NVidia 3D bundle today, and haveboth the machines mentioned above.
Can anyone answer the following questions:
1) Do I have to run Vista?
My XPS is running XP, and a quick check shows that only the 32-bit SLI drivers for the 8800s are available: No 64 bit versions on the Dell site. I'd rather run XP as it saves me reformatting the machine.
2) Will SLIed cards still work?
The XPS has 2 8800m cards - Will I still be able to use both in 3D mode
3) My M6400 has Vista 64, but will the 3D work with a Quadro fx3700m card?
If not, would I be able to install 8800 drivers to make it work - I believe they are similar cards.

Anyone able to tell me how I'd convince the NVidia 3D software to use my Quadro card? Do I just install GeForce drivers?
You can use drivers with a modded inf file. It's easy, just go to www.laptopvideo2go.com, download the latest drivers and the modified inf. Unzip the driver, replace the original inf with the modded one, and install the driver. I have 3d vision running off a xps m1730. This will only work in Vista/Win7, so XP will still be a problem, but you can install a beta version of Win7.

Yep, I did that late last night, and updated to the very latest Win7 drivers, so had the stereo driver part available.
Cool, I thought. However, when I ran through the setup the IR emitter was not recognised (light was red, and Vista kept saying no driver was available).
Any ideas? Essentially I've installed nothing from the NVidia 3D CD, and only used the modded drivers you mentioned. Just looks like I need the IR drivers, but not sure how to get them. Letting the computer do an internet search resolves nothing, alas.
Can somebody tell me where to find the USB driver for the emitter in say the 1.10 CD package, so I can manually install it?

I downloaded the 64-bit Vista 3D Vision only driver and extracted the contents to their own folder. (If you use the executable, you'll get an error message telling you your OS isn't supported and the installation will abort.)

I don't think your laptop's screen will support much more than 60hz.. which means 3d vision won't work..

Yes, I was using the Samsung 120hz monitor. Essentially I got the drivers to work, but the IR emitter USB driver was missing. I solved the problem by using the modded 185.85 gfx+ stereo drivers. It work excellently!
The only problem I have now is that on Vista 64 the laser cursor causes a MASSIVE framerate reduction. For example. staring at a blank wall in HL2 episode 1 gives me 16 (!) FPS. Turning off the laser cursor gives 100+ frames! I believe this is a bug only on Vista 64. Perhaps later drives will fix the problem.

3DVision came in europe around may and i'm pretty exited about the tech; since i think we have a similar laptot configuration (xps with dual 8800M GTX) could you tell me if it works properly? (i cant find a good answer about laptop driver for 3d vision)

Yes it works. Just install modded inf drivers and the 3D Vision drivers and your set. I have it running off two 8800m GTX cards as well. You will see a frame rate drop, but in SLI most new games should still run just fine.

Nope, I haven't, but I'll give them a try if you think it might work. (I hope the IR emitter driver is included in these, as sometimes it isn't)
