I think that "closed" the topic. There should be no dilemma now, if it's obvious that non-reference 980ti will be faster after OC from Titan-X, while staying colder and quiter. So, a little off-topic: You lucky bast... people. ;) Not only we, Europeans, have to pay more, but we also have to wait longer for the price. I'm in no place to even thing about buying 980Ti, but I was curious about the price. 2 hours passed, and I still have no idea how much this card officialy costs. There is only the info about price in dollars. It seems, unfortunately, it's going to be 800€ for the reference model. Exactly what you get from the 650 x 1,23 (VAT tax) but there's also the difference in the value of currency. Now we have 740 and I've found one post saying the author found the card in Germany for 760€. I guess we can already forget about 699€ or 799$ for some awesome non-reference models. I really hoped to see 980ti for 499$ after a few months of price war with HBM-equipped AMD Fiji, but with 850$ price tag it doesn't seem to go towards it. AMD and Nvidia most probably knew about the prices of their competition, and quite high price of 980Ti might suggest AMD has problems with acquiring the amount of HBM memories (and interposers) they would like to buy.

Don't assume so much Ronson. I live in Europe. Still going to wait for the AMD Fiji 'RAGE' GFX card to be released before I part with any money. I have a feeling it's going to be a monster as Nvidia are really keen to get you to part with your money a few weeks before it is released. Imagine if they brought out a fury which was faster than the Titan X then said and here's a fury max version too for double the performance for cheaper. It does make me think when AMD are always banging on about how you can stack the VRAM in direct X 12.

It will probably be 650 euros if the price will be 650 dollars:) (Like always;)) )

There's an article on the GTX 980 ti on GeForce now. http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/introducing-the-geforce-gtx-980-ti "If you want to enjoy 4K and VR with all the settings cranked, however, you’ll need the very best. As of now that is the new $649 GeForce GTX 980 Ti, a 6GB, 2816 CUDA Cores behemoth that’s ready for the future’s demanding, graphically-advanced games." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX2rJrqAF_k

wow this review by anandtech sold me: "While on paper the GeForce GTX 980 Ti should trail the GeForce GTX Titan X by several percent, what we get in the real world is much, much closer. With an average performance deficit of just 3%, GeForce GTX 980 Ti is for all intents and purposes GTX Titan X with a different name." full review and benchmarks to show results here; http://www.anandtech.com/show/9306/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-review/18 SOLD!

It's still a little "dangerous" though, look at that pixel fillrate in Anandtech review. It resembles 40ROP vs. 48ROP difference. Strange, cause the review I saw elsewhere says they asked a guy from Nvidia about it, and he said it's full 48ROP 384-bit, no cuts like in gtx970, and all the real-world benchmarks look too good to be 5.25+0.75GB (and all the rest cut-down specs). I wonder what caused such strange results.

I did find it interesting that the two results do not line up. GTA5 and Mordor are the two I looked at carefully, and they are pretty far apart in actual measured values. I'll be reading that closer to see why. I also thought it was particularly interesting that Anandtech uses the same benchmark I decided upon for GTA5 testing- the 99% percentile frame rate. This is a very nice MIN framerate. It's also interesting that even at 4K resolutions that there is so little difference between Titan X and 980ti. I would definitely expect that 10% core deficit to matter more. Apparently the bottleneck lies elsewhere for these games. Always keeping in mind that 2D performance doesn't always match 3D performance, it seems pretty clear that 980ti is the value leader. Cool stuff, now I wanna 980ti. But now I have to reset my inner child timer. Since I'm rich and want to stay that way, I force my inner child to wait 30 days for any large purchase, to be sure I really wanna. It's shocking how many things I pass on after 30 days wait. It's a slightly different take on mrorange's decide based on your heart. I decide, but force my heart to wait and when it still cares, I pony up. On the other hand that means I still drive a 1997 Subaru, and my friends call me "the hobo".

@bo3b, hahaha... we'd get a long :P I like your 30 day policy. I will have to adopt that. But I have a shorter patience, so maybe a 1 week policy is more realistic for me lol. Or a "sleep on it" policy, that's my style :P

1997 was a good year for Subaru but I really like the engine upgrade in 2001 which made this construction the biggest award achiever of all time (I think they still getting one every year).

Since we were talking about different generations of cards, and how expensive it tends to be at the top, I thought I'd share the experience from my pal who buys the top end cards. (Usually x80 series, but he did buy original Titan) His approach is to ruthlessly sell off his previous gen cards as soon as he gets new stuff. So he has absolutely no intention of holding onto aging stock and also does not believe future proofing is a valid concept. He always has the absolute best hardware, and pays about $200/year for that privilege, the difference between his prior cards and new cards is not that large. In other words, don't let stuff sit on your shelf and turn to dust- sell em' on eBay.
