Thoughts on consumer version of oculus rift?

These videos look amazing. Especially that portal stealth game. Roll on April. I hope valve announce a portal 3/half life 3/ left for dead 3. If that happened I could imagine there would be a lot of people cancelling their rift pre order! Helifax, I said I wouldn't mention it again but you did ask! :D
Will these games made to work in 3D in VR work with Nvidia 3D vision out of the box too?.

You believe that Oculus will JUST work out the box with 3D Vision?!?! In this case you have absolute no idea how software works... I can bet money it will be the other way unless NVIDIA made software that allows this!.
This is what annoyed me. I asked a question and you thought I was making a statement. this was shortly followed by deleted posts full of insults and not deleted posts full of insults! Anyway, let's forget about it. I just wanted to get hyped for the rift, not insulted for things I didn't say! :D You are right how I don't know how software works. Hence why I asked the question! Anyway, I'll say no more about it.
I have pre-ordered and I couldn't be more excited. I built this: http://imgur.com/qVG5GYG
Nice, a triple monitor wheel stand (just the stand) can cost as much or more as the CV1 so I expect there could be some consolidation of support on the cockpit sim side around CV1 if the resolution is good enough to read the gauges as it more immersive and so much cheaper than triple monitor or triple pj as well. I picked up a g920 FFB wheel in the xmas sales and what a difference that makes in vr with Dirt Rally and Project Cars in particular. Amazing. I do remember it taking about 2 days to get comfortable with the DK2 but it wasn't motion sickness like when you are in a car and your eyes are telling you you are not moving but your inner ear says otherwise it was more like the balance confusion caused by one of those walk through the spinning tube attractions like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpfh6flOMkA where your eyes and ears don't agree where up and down are. I'd be curious to know if someone seated in a wheelchair going though it experiences the same effect or if it is just when you are actively trying to balance while walking that it becomes an issue. I suspect it has a lot to do with trying to balance which is greatly increased if you are standing. Seated I can't induce discomfort even when I try spinning wildly, flipping a car, barrel rolls etc... As a quick test though I tried a bit of flying in DCS world while standing up with the DK2 and had that same mildly dizzy feeling I had when I first tried it. It's also a problem I noticed in FPS if the controller is competing with the head tracker as to the pitch of your head. I think the VR purist developers building games from the ground up for VR won't be satisfied with less than full body freedom of motion at least while standing in one spot but that makes locomotion a problem I'm not sure there is an answer for other than building up tolerance. I'm pretty confident there will be more standard game developers looking to just add a 360 3d virtual view to the worlds they are creating though just like alien isolation and dying light prove can work really well. I'd be quite happy with more of that with just waist up freedom of movement while seated so you can still lean or duck to some degree. Another option for stereo viewing I noticed is a virtual desktop app for the rift that can render any fullscreen SBS content on your monitor to the rift in 3d and I can confirm that works with tridef's SBS mode so if they could add frame sequential support to virtual desktop it may be possible to mirror a 3d vision game to the rift provided your are mirroring an actual 3d vision monitor to enable the stereo output to begin with. Anyway, all that is still up in the air so if you aren't into cockpit sim style games you may want to wait to see what actually develops between the platforms otherwise I think CV1 is a safe bet for many hours of sim fun and whatever else it can do will be gravy for me.

http://www.ign.com/wikis/ign-and-steam-vr-developer-showcase/Official_Rules So IGN and Valve are teaming up to give away 20 "Tickets" to the Valve VR Content showcase on January 28th. 1.) It's only open to US residents. 2.) You have to provide your own transportation. 3.) Prizes include entrance to the event and a Vive Pre headset (You have to actually show up in Seattle to walk away with the Vive. So no winning and not spending your way there. What's interesting is they list the prize package at 1000 dollars in value. So unless Valve is actually charging to get into the event (which is admittedly possible), it likely means the Vive will be selling for 999.99. Guess we'll see if admission prices become known. Not thrilled with that price, but it could definitely be worse. HTC obviously is not a company that can release a product without large profit margins built in. This has been known forever. But it still wouldn't be that much more than the Rift + Touch controllers when it's all said and done. Hopefully this means 999.99 is the ceiling on pricing.

It's standard practice to list the prize value of each individual winner. Not that I would be upset with the Vive Pre having a retail value of 50 dollars. ;) Bring it!

http://uploadvr.com/smi-hands-on-250hz-eye-tracking/ Excellent article on eye tracking and foveated rendering. At economies of scale (1,000,000 units), they say it would cost in the single digits. If they could also somehow also solve the wireless issue, gen 2 would be a pretty spectacular upgrade. I guess, at the very minimum, phone based VR will get more appealing. Obviously they have the wireless issue already solved. 4K screens, however, become a lot more practical if the rendering requirement are slashed.

So I got a question for you guys that I really wanna know. Why is GTX 780 Ti in the list of functional cards for Oculus CV1 but my GTX 780 isnt? Even the latest drivers say it doesnt support Oculus VR CV1. Funny enough I get VR ready on 3D mark. What to do?
