I am getting a HTC Vive over an Oculus. MAYBE I will have both one day but I saved over a year to be able to afford one. Anywho....
Even though I am getting a Vive I think Room scale games will be short lived and tiresome. Not to mention it limits game potential.
I do hope that the virtuix Omni drops in price and it works as well as they say. Cause while I couldn't imagine doing room scale hours on end. I 100% could run around with an Omni. To the point that I "kind of" hope Rift fails so I have an excuse to buy an Omni instead.
I don't think sitting[no offense to the handicap] or even room scale is the true potential of VR. Each is missing something or limits the game.
With a walking machine like Omni you have the advantage of full room scale like environment with the unfettered game design.

Sitting down limits the amount of immersion into game and your not fully into game. [Your pretty much just sitting and tilting head around occasionally.
Room scale limits the development of game since your designing around the idea of being in a box and GENERALLY short bursts of gameplay/short game.
Neither is perfect.

I am also looking forward to seated VR, more so than room. I would love it if every seated-VR game had a basic stand-up VR mode for exercise though. Might be hard on the knees to crouch too far all the time, so that height to which you entered crouch mode should be adjustable. Just holding a toy assault rifle out in front of you for a couple minutes would get the heart going, let alone running in place.
Im sure over time your mind will get used to associating running in place with the general idea of: "im now running forward".
That makes me wonder if Ebay will have a side filter for VR googles titled:
Number of times masturbated with:
1. 3000 and up
2. 2,999 - 2000
3. 1,999 - 1000
4. 999- 500
5. What is this pooOOrrRno, (is that how your pronounce it?) you speak of?
6. None!

I kind of forgot about The Gallery.
Its probably the game I agree with most as far as VR design.
Its best played on Vive [till maybe controller comes for Oculus if supported]
It is NOT ROOM SCALE. You are pretty much standing and you can turn, spin, whatever or just use controller for spinning. Uses the HTC vive controller as your hands.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sX1cum0vyWk
Seriously you cant say that isn't cool in VR and its NOT sitting and its NOT room scale.
This is where I think this generation of VR should lead to imo.

I've considered the omni eqzitara but it's something I want to try first.
It does look the part and has amazing potential.
I think some exercise while gaming is a good thing.
Keeps you fit and makes you feel more immersed.
What launch games are everybody getting with the vive?
I know we get , job simulator, tilt brush and fantastic contraption.
I want hoverjunkers, final approach and elite (even though eve valkerie looks better IMO).
There aren't many driving games with support for the vive. I really want to play dirt rally, project cars and the F1 games in VR.
Then there's alien isolation, Star Wars (I know nausea but I want to try it
Can you watch 3D iso's in powerdvd with a VR headset? Is there support for that?

The Gallery is if not launch will be same month. April for vive.
Its definetly the most interesting near launch game.
TBH, Eve Valkerie is going to surprise people with how little there is imo. It looks great but I have a feeling its going to be lacking in content.

About the Virtuix Omni, there was a review on Reddit from someone that has been using it for a month already, really interesting: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/49nbih/a_full_month_with_the_virtuix_omni_my_review/
I'm really interested in A Chair in a Room Greenwater. Seems to be like The Gallery but with horror elements, also Hover Junkers. These together with the 3 free games and The Lab from Valve will keep my room vr needs busy. Seated experiences would be Elite Dangerous, DCS and Live for Speed.

All hail 3d modders DHR, MasterOtaku, Losti, Necropants, Helifax, bo3b, mike_ar69, Flugan, DarkStarSword, 4everAwake, 3d4dd and so many more helping to keep the 3d dream alive, find their 3d fixes at http://helixmod.blogspot.com/ Also check my site for spanish VR and mobile gaming news: www.gamermovil.com
Well thats new. I guess they added that when they started drifting to vive. Maybe its cool?
Like he said though it can be played standing or even sitting at a desk though. I've seen it demo'd that way unless things have changed drastically.
Don't know if you guys are aware of this but this is something really sweet (if it works as it should):

Sounds like 3D Vision Automatic to me;) Hopefully it will be MUCH better (but I doubt it)...unless is CM Mode equivalent of 3D Vision which in that case... I'd rather skip;))
If I were to play any non-VR game in VR I would definitely use 3D Vision Automatic + our collection of fixes though;)
Not sure about VorpX... Looks interesting but the game support we have in 3D Vision is waaaay bigger and better than what VorpX offers...

Its just virtual desktop. Rift has third party versions.[/quote]
Pff.... what a big lump of.... 2D on a "projected" screen in VR? OMG!! KILL IT, KILL IT!!!! ^_^ (I'd take CM/ depth buffer over that any day).
Hmm... Still don't know what to pick, the Vive or Oculus. Since we don't have SLI support (unless the devs will put VR-SLI using Gameworks) this means basically you will need one card;) IN which case one of my 780Tis will be a bit better or worse than a GTX970. This means that I will need a 980Ti (or 2 for my Surround system which I plan to keep) so...the costs will be higher lol;))
Maybe I will wait until Pascal is released this year and see the new GPUS and only after buy a VR headset?
Choices and choices;))

Having to buy games on Oculus/Facebook store was the biggest turn off for me. Since all exclusives will be sold there. Its pretty much a closed market.
TBH, I only bought it because I find myself constantly checking reddit/whatever for news and updates. This way I stop with the semi-anxiety. I dont feel the need to research as much.
The longer you wait the better off you will be. Probably should wait for a game changer.

The Virtuix Omni would be a must have for me if I was to buy any VR. This peripheral seems to round out the full experience and the kind of mobility you'd want. I don't want to pay extra for the room scaling since the demos I've seen are uninspiring and I can see boredom after the novelty wears off. Current room scaling seems like a half assed experience and limits the potential of a game.
I am going to wait either way to get a real sense as to what direction to go. Based on the review of the Virtuix Omni posted by birthright below, the Rift + Virtuix + Vorpx seems to fit for me. Either way these options are becoming exciting and it's really the games that will drive my decision.

It's going to be an interesting GDC this year.
As well as the final round of VR PR battles before they headsets ship, we'll have new info on pascal and Polaris gfx cards, new games and probably a new Nintendo console announcement.
It would be funny if Nintendo came out with a VR console and stole the show with VR Mario. I wouldn't put it past them.

Result: Gorgious 3D gaming and VR experiences! :D
