Battlefield Bad Company Awesome Cheaper than PCP!
Hi. I just picked up some 3D vision stuff and I'm thinking I might hold off on starting a serious PCP habit for a little while.

If you would like to transform Battlefield Bad Company 2 in to BFBC Awesome, I would suggest going out and picking up a 3-d monitor and some goggles.

If we were to think of immersion as the highest level of escapism into another world, bf is the most effective at doing this. The engine, barring for the moment 3D vision, is the most highly dynamic virtual world to date. It has most of the more recent real-time rendering technologies, including ambient occlusion, dynamic bloom, tessalation and automated exposure adjustments among the older industry standards. These visual developments are not mere eye candy, but rather improvements in visual dynamics. The world we live in is so dynamic, some might refer to it as "hyper-complex", meaning that it cannot even be accurately mapped using contemporary epistemological tools (like mathematics). I think the importance of visual dynamics in video-games is obvious here. These new rendering technologies are making games more immersive. BFBC2 also has high dynamic range sound, meaning that the virtual world (the map) is involved in what is heard. There is not a selection of samples that increase or decrease in volume depending on its distance, like most (if not all) other games. The synchronization of the different parts of the engine are done masterfully. Everything has a synchronized feel to it that unifies (most) of the senses to a degree. This is where BF diverges from Call of Duty. BF is a (somewhat) unified sensation where the mind follows the senses and not the other way around, as it might happen in COD. There is always an ever encroaching periphery that seems to dissolve entire immersion - poor textures, pop-ins, patch destruction, a 24 inch screen, gameplay bugs... like any video game. Although, when you put the goggles on, the periphery is pushed back. I have the convergence set so high that it is nearly impossible to focus on the butt end of the gun. If you're thinking about maybe picking up a serious drug habit, or some extremist activity to escape from your life, it might be a better investment to get bf and some goggles. If you like multiplayer pac man with guns, then maybe you should pick up call of duty. Hey, different strokes for different folks. But I must say, they're not sending probes to Jupiter with Euclidian Geometry. All that said, anything closer to being in another world, barring drugs, is neurological manipulation not unlike the Matrix. I really don't think anything revolutionary will come in-between 3D games and the matrix. It will be enhanced over time, but the premise will retain its form.

Anyways, I had some time on my hands this holiday so I thought I'd write a little something about what I think to be the most non-drug induced immersive experience on the planet. Hopefully its as close as I get to left clicking someone into the respawn area. : )

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately nothing. I've just been noticing all of these threads about COD on here, so I thought I'd let people know that there are other (more advanced) options.

I just bought bad company 2 on steam for $19.99 to try with the glasses, I also got supreme commander 2 for $3.75 at the same time but it won't start for some reason. :( Anyways, I've been playing tons of mw2 and l4d2, learning to play in 3D is like getting a whole ton of free new games! Anyways, hope bad company 2 is fun, although my poor gts 250 is failing at a lot of my games and I have to turn the settings down to quake-like quality and 1280x720 resolution to get good framerates, so I'm probably going to get that HAWX2 + 450 or 460 deal for like $150 to $200...3d glasses are really amazingly awesome, hope they fix more bugs and get all the games to work by christmas, and maybe figure out a way to not require glasses. ;p
