Have you played Dead Space in s3d?
  1 / 2
I was going to buy the new Splinter Cell, but since it appears to have issues in S3d I really want to play Dead Space as it was my fave game on ps3, and only $20 on steam.

Does it work well with 3d vision? I am most worried about the shadows. I read a post that said the shadows render incorrectly and it would be such a shame to have to turn them off.

I am getting really excited about revisiting this game in s3d, with improved gfx to boot, if you have played let me know how it went. Thnx!

Yes I played it for a while, but I was too scared.
If I remember correctly there were no big issues.

Nice, good to hear! I will admit that I had to play it for very short spurts of time cause with the surround sound, 67" tv, and the lights turned off this game could really make my heart start to beat very hard. Which is why it will be all the more awesome, and intense, in 3sd!

I'm sold. Downloading tonight.

From Steam?

I do not understand current trend in games distribution, I buy cd in the shop and it installs from the Steam. There is not serial, but steam id. Frack that. I suppose that they will sell only some sort of coupons in future time.

a little more info in this older thread

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtop...mp;hl=deadspace

When you try the game - please report back your findings with the game, It sounds like this might be quite a good Vision experience, though unfortunatly with ghosting.

Would like to add a solution page on my website for deadspace - with any setting recommendations or general fixes

OK played the game and find the Vision experience to be a mixed bag.

I personally, am happly enjoying the game, while trying hard to over look the glitches with both lighting and shadow

Quick summary: turn off bloom, glow, blur, motion blur and shadows

Ive gone into a little more detail on my website - but I recommend you give this game a go with 3D Vision.

Started playing last night, and when I first loaded the game up I got really excited. The menus are rendered in 3d beautifully. Unfortunately in the next few minutes my hopes were expertly dashed. At 100% depth (yes I know, it WILL need to be turned down) there is ghosting, shadows are messed up, and lighting is rendered at incorrect depths as solutiongaming has already pointed out. I play on a 67" dlp, so any inconsistency is enlarged and obvious.

I have come to realize that I have become spoiled rotten these last few months, going from Resident Evil 5, to Batman AA, Bad Company 2, and then onto Metro 2033 my standards have been set astronomically high. A want a game to perform perfect in the s3d environment, and anything less just kills the immersion of the game. I will try and suck it up, and play through though.

I don´t understand how any person can say that Dead Space is good played in Stereo. It is really poor, you must dissable all graphic things and still there are a lot of ghosting and problems with lights. Another example of a great game nº1 in its genere that Nvidia has forgotten totally, and developers of the game do not patch to make it compatible with stereo.

I am still waiting that game developers begin to produce their games thinking in these glasses, but still do not happend. New games with a lot of problems, no patches to correct past games, inexistent new Nvidia profiles solving problems with essential games... it smelt the same than 6 years ago but with LCD monitor and no opengl support. I hope something will change soon, because now there are more people and more money in the middle.

Personally I prefer much more a good support for Dead Space than for Batman, Avatar or Resident Evil (I have not played more than 10 minutes with each one).

b4thman, I completely agree. If Dead Space were patched to be 3d ready it would be an incredible showcase for 3d vision and the level of immersion it can create. Unfortunately we as Nvidia s3d gamers are still a minority in the video game world, and the developers see little financial incentive to cater to us. This is why we must support those that do offer current 3d vision compatibility. Show them the money and they will come.

But as it stand now, Dead Space is a "meh" at best in 3d vision, and that is super disappointing!

One can only hope, but after the Bioshock 2 fiasco I am not getting my hopes up, not even in the tiniest bit.

Dead Space is basically a no-go mainly due to torch lights being rendered as 2D objects. But if you can somehow ignore that, the in-game laptop 3D menu and laser reticles are really cool with 3D vision.

It is umplayable. I think it is impossible to be "cool" if it is not possible to play. Lights can´t be ignored and shadows must be totally off, and of course would be another "game".

I think we must be more critical, or readers will be confused. A game that is not possible to be played has no way to be good in any aspect. There question is... "is there ANY player who prefer to play in stereo with this game"... and my answer is NOT. Also if anybody play at any expense I think it is not healthy for his eyes (another question not debated habitually). NVidia 3d Vision is something inoffensive if used adequately, but used in hostile circunstances may cause damage or fatigue. The demanding for developers to make games to be 100% compatible with this technology is not a caprice, it is a health question. Choppy animations, 60 hz flickering, darkness scenes because polarisation, ghostings, and also bad render things and lights... it is a lot of weight to lead to the backs sometimes, and testing 30 seconds may be nothing, but playing a long in time can be another thing.

If you turn off a few of the effects it's quite playable. I found it to be one of the best experiences ever and extremely memorable in 3D. It does require a little getting used to but still totally worth it. Trust me, I'm picky, and I would still recommend this.
