What should I buy, or should I even bother Thinking about picking up a kit
Hey all... I was thinking about finally buying a 3d Vision Kit. I have been hesitant for awhile because i felt it was probably just a gimmick, after reading a lot of articles and forum post's I have changed my mind. I was thinking about picking up the Asus VG236H 23" with the 3d vision kit included... Does anyone have any input on this monitor? If anyone has any other suggestions for an affordable monitor, let me know... I would like to keep my price in the 500 range with the 3d kit included in that price of course.
How cool is this technology really, is it truly worth it? I currently play Fallout New Vegas, Metro 2033, Just Cause 2, and a whole lot of WOW... Sometimes STO as well.

WoW has some issues but it does work. I popped in to Star Trek Online and it was working with 3D Vision but I only stuck around for a few minutes. Fallout:NV should work fine but you'll probably want to download the sky mod to push the sky up higher.
The monitor works quite well. Contrary to what I thought at first, it does have pretty significant "ghosting" but I don't think any monitor really does much better. It is a shiney thing so, if you've got a lot of light sources right behind you, there's going to be trouble with reflections.
The technology itself is pretty rough. Some games will work great, some games will work great after you turn off some lighting/shadows, some games will work great in some parts and horrible in other parts, some games will work pretty horrible all around, and older/OpenGL games won't work at all. But when it does work, it's insane. I don't know how long you've been gaming but it is a least as big of a jump in graphics as it was going from sprite graphics to polygons.

If you play Metr0 2033 and Just Cause 2 then this kit is a must get.
I've been playing with this technology for over 4 months and there is no way I'm ever going back to 2d. Never!
If you'r playing games without 3d kit u'r really not playing them 3D at all believe me.. I just feel most of the time like I travelled in time to the future and playing the games which will develop 20 years later or something... It's whole new experience. I really regret for not buying it earlier but it's not too late anyway :) Now I can't play wow like earlier.. it's so flat and boring without s3d :)

Batman Arkham Asylum looks great!.... Just don't try to play any open gl games like Star Wars knights of the old republic... I found that out the hard way. :(...
Mass Effect 2 is unplayable for me in 3d as the glares are all wrong and the center sight that is displayed is very distracting and I don't want to mess around with it... But I haven't tried many other games.
However, I found a great new use for 3d vision other than just games..... 3d porn!! Amazing. Wink wink. :)
I have an acer 23.6 inch monitor.. I updated my old monitor about 5 months ago to a 23 inch full HD... So I couldn't see buying a new 3d monitor unless it was bigger than my previous one.. Even if it was only .6 inches bigger. lol

Well, thank you all very much for your input. I just pulled the trigger on newegg, I should see it in about 1-3 days... One last question if you all don't mind though.
Do you seeing this being the future of gaming ( more and more titles coming out) or will it remain a small community?

When you get your kit up and running, be sure to enable your keyboard shortcuts and advanced settings for Convergence. Search around these forums for a TON of tips on getting iffy games to work great by getting a good depth/convergence balance.

It'll change the way you look at games. :)

There is an easy way to disable the crosshair in all games.
In nvidia control panel,
Set up stereoscopic 3D --> Change 3D Laser Sight.
Uncheck the box "Enable 3D laser sigght ..."
OK
Dont forget about adjusting the convergence settings (in addition to depth) in game. And remember to save settings (ctrl + F7) or convergence/depth will reset to default next time.

I have a question about saving settings (ctrl + F7) ... Does it save your setting per game?? Or just save the setting and when I open a new game it will be at those settings...
I'm not sure if I can change these settings "per game" or not.

I never change convergence.. I remember once I tried to change it with shortkeys but it didn't work.. I only change depth to 100% and play all games like this.. Does it really matter to change convergence?

Changing convergence can make a HUGE difference. You have to HOLD DOWN the convergence shortcut keys, until desired setting is reached. Increasing convergence pulls stuff out of the screen, decreasing it pushes things back in. Think about convergence being the 'screen limit' so if you put the screen limit a few inches out from your real screen then you have pop out. Plus, if you set a good balance of convergence and depth, you don't need 100% depth for a totally awesome 3d experience. In fact I've found that I can get a lot more dramatic effect at a half depth and good dose of convergence, and games literally look like they have INFINITE depth! /shock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Granted there are issues with some of those titles but it enriches most games you play. Be sure to check out the "your favorite games in 3D" (or whatever its called) sticky topic at the top of this forum.
Nvidida is clearly working on getting 3DPlay out there and I think after that we'll only see more fixes leading to a bigger 3D library.
I think Nvidia and James Cameron are two strong forces that just might make 3D a regular thing, just like how flatpanel tv's have become.
It sure does seem like the next logical step and maybe after that we'll see 3D Surround become the norm.

3D Vision makes "meh" games playable. Best example is Avatar the Game. Not the best game, but wholy crap in 3D I couldn't stop playing it. It reminds me of when I was younger playing games I always wanted to keep truckin' through so I could see the next landscape/level and how neat it looked. This brings that feeling back a bit to me.
