I'm having awful performance in S3D on my new card. Even in games my old GTX 580 could run in 60 FPS S3D, I can barely reach around 30 FPS.
I've tried downgrading Nvidia drivers to 347.52, but no change. I made sure to delete all Nvidia drivers before installing them over, and did clean installations. The only thing I can think of to try now is a fresh Windows install.
Games I've tried:
GTA V (970 = <25fps | 580 = <40)
Betrayer (970 = <23fps in big areas | 580 = >50)
Tomb Raider (970 = >50 | 580 = <60)
Of course without S3D the 970 greatly out-performs the 580.
Google gave me no results, so I'm turning here to see if there's other GTX 970 users.

I have MSI GTX 970.
GTA V is 10-15fps @ 720p at worst, 20+ at best. In 2D it's good 50+.
Dirt Rally is fast however. GTA V 3D is broken, see other thread.
No problems in Life Is Strange either. Just GTA in my experience.
Yeah GTA V 3D was working on launch day on my 580, but the first GTA V patch seemed to bork it.
Can you name some other titles you've played in S3D on your 970? I would like to test out more titles that should have no trouble reaching 60 fps in S3D.

I've done a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 today, and the problem remains. Dishonored runs at 24 fps in outdoor areas, and around 83 fps with S3D turned off. With DSR it easily does 1620p without going under 80 fps in the same area. So this is boggling.

My new card is an Asus GTX 970 DC2OC-4GD5 and I can confirm this! It is very dissapointing! Even my GTX 480 produced higher fps in S3D. For example in Ori and the blind forrest in some areas normaly I get between 100-120 FPS, while turning on S3D reduces it to 30-40. So generally speaking I get around the third of normal performance in S3D. With the GTX480 the FPS drop was around 50% only or even less. I don't understand!
Are you running it with DSR in 3D?
No no, just trying the same settings I used on the 580, which were all 1080p.

That's the pattern I'm also seeing. The S3D performance cost is insane compared to what it was on my older card.

I think we need something clarified. Are your actual framerates lower than what you had on the 480, or is the cut fron emabling 3D greater? Because your CPU needs to work harder in 3D, so while you previously may have been bottlenecked by the GPU, it's possible you're now getting a CPU bottleneck.

With S3D turned off, there's no issue. I get the framerates and visual quality I expect from the jump from a 580 to a 970.
But as soon as I try playing in S3D on the 970, the framerates are much worse than what the 580 was capable of on the same graphical settings. The opposite of what you'd expect.

Hmm, but I just formatted the whole PC. First and only driver I've installed is Nvidia driver version 347.52. You got any suggestions for a specific driver to try? Then I'll try the driver uninstaller.

Ah, I didn't realise that. Often weird problems like this are caused by bad driver installs. You could always try the latest driver (with DDU first), just as a test.

Used the DDU and installed the latest Nvidia drivers (350.12), still no change. I made a support ticket to MSI yesterday and awaiting their answer. I'm starting to think it's a problem with the 970 series of cards and Nvidia's lack of interest in continued 3D vision support.
I got a few weeks left to play around with it before the return policy runs out. I'll prolly try using the 580 again to confirm it's the 970.

Be sure to reinstall the driver when you swap video cards. If you just change the hardware, things will seem to work, but the driver installer is not a universal driver. It specifically targets the hardware that it sees, and can lead to strange problems like this.
