I just want to hang out in a beautiful stereoscopic world
  1 / 2
Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for a stereoscopic 'game' where I can hang out/live in a beautifully-rendered world. Maybe have a house, a garden, fly around, etc. Something like Skyrim would be great visuals-wise, (one of the DLCs even added houses you can own) except it's so battle-focused. I hear Second Life is still kicking around, and that's got the freedom to 'do nothing'. There's a stereoscopic viewer for it (the CtrlAltStudio viewer) but I hear the visuals are still pretty rough. I had a look at Rust but it's still that DayZ model of hunting animals and zombies :\ I'm just in a sad way and I want to escape to a world that isn't about platforming and killing things Yes, my Oculus Rift DK1 is on its way too :)

There was a really cool tech demo posted in the forums within the last month or so. Huge natural environment to explore, no story/objectives. If you hunt through the forum you should stumble over it sooner or later.

I also suggest Dear Esther. It works pretty well in 3d, with minor background issue.

If you want I can make you an AutoHotKey script that'll 'unbind' your LMB (or RTrigger) so you can play any game in a peaceful serene way ... you just better be prepared to run! :) edit: I don't really think it's a good idea to recommend playing 'Dear Esther' to someone that's in a 'sad way' and wants to 'escape' ...

I'm with TsaebehT. It's a great game, and very beautiful. But it's not a "happy" game.

Small thing, but when the second dev kit comes out with the higher resolution (if they come out i guess), you might give one of those a try as there is tons of "peaceful" content experiences for them, although perhaps short at the moment. Short of that you can get a taste of it following these two guys i'd recommend: Cymantic Bruce https://www.youtube.com/user/HapPProductions/videos VR Brotherhood https://www.youtube.com/user/VRBrotherhood/videos DayZ's pretty cool if you like the idea of survival, keeping healthy, exploring. YOu don't have to kill anyone, but theres A LOT of people that will kill you :D Did you play Mass Effect out of curiosity? There is killing, but its such a great world to be in IMO (and you are technically saving Billions of lives in the process...).

That Valley demo was amazing! They should develop that into a game of some sort. I only wish you could travel faster - even on free look it's not fast enough to traverse 60k+ square miles. Thanks though that one's staying on my computer :)

The Heaven Benchmark looks really good too, there is an option to always run in Valley or you can use the Shift key ... although I do wish you could mouselook without having to hold down the LMB or better yet use a controller. http://unigine.com/products/heaven/

Based on what you are looking for, I think that Pirate is right- you should play Just Cause 2. You don't have to play any missions at all, nobody tries to kill you unless you start a fight with them. You can drive cars, fly planes, parasail, drive boats. It's gigantic, a map as big and as varied as GTA5. Snow in the mountains, rainstorms. There's even a gun that shoots soap bubbles. And it's freakin' epically beautiful in 3D.

I concur. I've done hours of 'nothing' in Just Cause 2. Plus there is the Superman mod. FLY!!

How about Miasmata with the Helix fix? It seems to be mostly about exploring a forested island while searching for plants. You do have to avoid a monster that's stalking you, though.
