I was so excited.. then so dissapointed.

I bougth a 3D vision kit the day it came out (as I had an old set from the old nvidia 3d days).. but had XP.. so I could never use it (booo) I upgraded to Windows 8 recently thinking.. at last I can use 3D vision... And now it doesn't work. Dissapointed doesn't cover it. Im really upset! Has anyone managed to get it to work on Windows 8? If so is there some magic required? Whenever I set it to CRT and hit the test button it either goes back to discover mode (red green seperation), or it starts to work, hangs and locks up the whole PC.. which isn't ideal. Also the little pyramid never goes bright green, and half the time doesn't get a driver loaded, it really does seem half baked in Windows 8 Its pretty bad.

Hy there sambartle, sorry for your troubles. Windows 8 works 100% fine with nvidia 3D, so that is not the problem. What monitor are you trying to connect it to? Sometimes I have had the problem where i cant select nvidia 3D, as it keeps reverting back to discover. Resetting my PC always solved this. If that doesn't help try cleaning out your drivers and re-installing the nvidia driver.

I've noticed that I need to unplug then re-plug the emitter's USB cable into my PC every time my computer boots in order for the emitter to turn on. Until I do this, I can only select 3D Vision Discover in the drivers.

If you have an internal PCI to USB card I'd give it a try, that should lose all power when shut down I'd think. edit: You could try killing all the power to the PC, that'd definitely tell you if it's a power to the usb port issue or not. Use the switch on the PSU or unplug it and leave it off for a bit.

Win8 64-bit. Works fine here, so the OS isn't the problem.

Do you have a 3D Vision Monitor? It's not clear if you have just the glasses and emitter only. You mention selecting "CRT", which are not supported, and the drivers won't turn on the emitter in that situation. So - what monitor do you have?
CRT
You'll need a 3D vision specific 120hz LCD monitor for it to work unfortunately.

Apparently there are hacks to get it to run on a CRT?

I should perhaps have been a bit clearer.. I've tried several different computers.. I can get everything working fine on Vista on this computer and other I have tried. I am aware of how to set it up. CRT's most definitely are supported (I've used this exact monitor in Vista (to test it worked since my normal O/S wasn't supported) with no problems - CRTs are also listed as supported on the box and all the drivers).. My CRT can easily outpace any LCD, and has no problem with 120hz (it'll happily do 240hz at some resolutions) I've attached a photo of the box showing the CRT support. I have a clean install of Windows 8 x64 Pro, and the main issue does seem to be the Little Pyramid.. It gets a driver loaded and glows dull green everytime, but only once have I got a bright green, and that was by removing the drivers and letting windows find one on windows update - I have yet to see that happen with the nVidia drivers. I'm going to try clearing out all the nVidia cruft and doing a complete reinstall with the latest and greatest.. do I need to use administrative mode or compatibility mode at all when installing? Thanks, Sam

Pretty sure the newer drivers removed CRT support, you may need older ones.

Ah that would perhaps explain it.. I'll try that.. however.. there _is_ an option for CRT in the latest driver (314.21 at least i'm just getting 314.22).. And its in the 3D setup wizard as a specific choice.. so if its been removed they haven't exactly done a great job of communicating that.

Yes I do have that option.. I wasn't aware that it ever went away! It seems that I bought this on day 1 (I knew it didnt work in XP but was convinced I could fix that - I've dabbled with driver development), and I gave up when I ran out of time to try getting it working.. So I put it back in the box, and now come to use it (4 years later) and I seem to have timed it all wrong and its now unsupported! Really glad I spent that £120 now!! I'm determined to get this working now.. Im trying to get rid of all the nvidia drivers for the controller pyramid and its like the device that wont die, no matter how many I forcibly remove it keeps getting one back somehow!

Success!! I think I have narrowed this problem down a bit. Whatever is the current windows update version of the driver for GeForce in Windows 8 x64.. is broken, and for some reason the nVidia installer cant override it. The puck seems to get screwed up by this.. So once I manually removed everything, blocked windows from pulling down a driver on my firewall, and deleted all the backup drivers in: c:\windows\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository as well as the normal System32\Drivers folder.. I rebooted, did a clean install of the latest nVidia driver (which again caused the CRT option to show), I then had to fumble through the setup wizard (it doesnt work in there), and once that was completed (I had to answer the triangle octogon question by guessing the right answers) I can configure it up and use the CRT profile! Awesome! Thanks for the help everyone! :)
