Can I use 3DTV Play with just a PC and DLP Projector? Not working :(
Hi there- I have searched quite a bit and not finding a solution. Here's my current setup and issue:
Hardware:
1) Laptop with Nvidia GTX980M
2) Optoma HD141X Projector
3) DLP-Link Glasses
Steps:
1) Connect laptop to projector via HDMI
2) Set Projector as ONLY screen (to ensure it's "primary")
3) Change projector to 3D Mode "DLP Link - Auto"
4) Installed latest Nvidia drivers
5) Download and install 3DTV Play Trial
Here's where the issue starts: when I attempt to install 3DTV Play, I get this error:
"A 3DTV was not dectected"
However, I was under the impression 3DTV Play didn't actually require a "3DTV", that the projector (which is 3D-ready, latest and greatest for Optoma), should work.
Am I missing something really obvious here? :P
I have noticed something odd: when I open the Nvidia Control Panel, I only see the normal "3D Settings" options, none of the "Stereoscopic 3D/etc" options that others seem to have. I tried re-installing the Nvidia drivers, but nothing new showing up there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

The projector is fine, since it supports HDMI 1.4
The problem is likely the video output of your laptop.
If the video output is routed off of the CPU integrated graphics, it will not work.
Check the PhysX portion of the NVCP and see what connections are available on the Nvidia GPU.
For movies, you do not need to purchase 3DTV Play, but for games you will.

It's a physical connection, I assume- no possibility for software/BIOS to change?[/quote]
Look in the Laptop's BIOS if you can somehow disable "Optimus" and always run the discreete GPU. Some laptops allow this... If it doesn't.... maybe a modified BIOS will, but I doubt it:(
What laptop are you using?
I actually made a guide a long time ago:

What connections do you have to the 980M?

Thanks Helifax- yep, I found your helpful post recently. That page, for me, shows zero ports in the GeForce Area :(
I have a Gigabyte P35W-V3. Nice laptop, apparently totally hamstrung for this though?
