3D is already looking very good in theaters with 4K projectors - what is needed is higher framerates (60+ fps) and HDR technology for true verisimilitude. Consumer 3D is more difficult to sell, but no doubt they will revisit it in time.
VR is still in its infancy right now, but the technology is finally there. Higher density OLED panels and faster mobile processors means that what was dreamt of in the 80's and 90's will actually be possible nearing 2020.

Nvidia will never completely abandon Stereoscopic rendering.
It's used for too many things in too many industries.
Science, Medical, Geological, Teaching, Modeling
Of course. Nvidia's in the business of selling products. If/when the time is right, and they feel 3D monitors have a new tech that can sell their hardware, they'll come out with their 3rd iteration of stereo 3D. There was a pretty decent gap between their first attempt and 3D Vision being released.
I would argue those five categories listed above, however, would all be superior in VR and will migrate that way as a result.
Heck, I just saw a VR quote from Apple's Tim Cook this morning: “I don’t think it’s a niche. It’s really cool and has some interesting applications.”
When even Apple is getting ready to enter a segment big time, you know it's got massive applications to it.

I agree that VR is a better option for some things, especially medical. As well as augmented reality and holographics.

They really should publicly state whether or not they are going to continue to support 3D Vision. If I'd "just" bought a new monitor with 3D and a new pair of glasses I'd be confused as to why there are hardly any new games that are 3D.
If the 3D profiles aren't going to be there any more then let people know so they can make informed decisions about monitors and GPU's and not expect features that have been abandoned.

Well... I've sent an email to CEO Jensen H Huang about this and the reply I got was very short:
I hope to build a future 3D Vision again.
This and only this so it looks like for now there is nothing coming for us anytime soon about 3D Vision. I'm sad, really.
Of course you don't have to believe me but that's the truth.
Guys..please WAKE UP, it's all about sales, nothing more. It's productivity has ended but until -any- company's stock fully reaches "out of stock" status (meaning not even a single unit) it's not wise (actually it's like "forbidden") to make any public announcement for discontinued.
After sometime it goes to "legacy" product, and to "not supported".
It's business and profit was,is and will be the golden rule.
(only a -very- rich investor could make a sudden turn to company's current policy (survival is top priority under economical crisis with a little HOPE for R&D stuff)..anyone from the audience..? nuh..)
Seriously, you live in a different world ??

Well if it was dead there would be no 3D option with drivers..so thats one good sign. Yet no one is going to be making 3DVision monitors anymore. Nor will there be any V3 glasses. If you want to test this just stop modding games for 3d..like no more Helix and the other ones. Nvidia does support just nothing like they use to. Like this forum. They use to be here ALL the time.
Its like G-sync..it works its nice but.. it will cost you almost if not $200 more. Yet FreeSync does not.. there is a difference there but.. not everyone is jumping on G-sync.

What I would like to see, is a proper update to support new monitors @ 1440p with 144hz natively, instead of turning the resolution down to 1080p and the refresh rate to 120hz.
However, I just looked on Nvidia's main page and 3D vision is no longer listed under their technologies any more. I actually did not see any reference to it anywhere, or how to buy 3d vision kits or anything. Correct me if I am wrong, but maybe this was moved somewhere else?

You're right, it used to be listed under "products>technologies" and could be accessed that way. Like if you tried to access it from this page.

It's still listed here

The product pages are still up.
