Ok i've managed to get 3dvision working on the Samsung S27A950 monitor using the method below. My question is I am getting a huge amount of ghosting/cross-talk using this method. If I use DDD Tri-def then there is absolutely no ghosting whatsoever.
What can I do?
Method to get 3dvision working on the S27A950 monitor:
3. Run the init_x64.bat file (running win 7 64 bit)
4. run the enablestereo.bat file, but the console window just immediately closes?
make sure u run all .bat files from command prompt
let windows install the new usb device
5. go to nvidea 3dvision set up and install the 3dvision usb emitter option
6. go through all the menus
7. once installed it will say congratulations you have installed it. after that, go to control panel, enable 3dvision in control panel, select CRT monitor and then launch any game that's compatible with 3dvision

The simple answer is that LCDs don't refresh as quickly as CRT phosphors. I can't find the exact specs on that monitor right now (Internet connection issues), but I would guess that it has a 20 ms or slower response time, which would definitely lead to a visible afterimage in games.
Set the monitor brightness to 40%. Don't worry about the light, you'll see it's plenty of it anyway. Tilt the monitor slight backwards to further decrease the ghosting. This works for me and gives a quite pleasant experience now with my monitor.

Nvidia forums don't tolerate topics describing how to "trick" their 3D-Vision-controller to cooperate with Samsung's newer 3D-monitors, because those monitors are not officially "supported". It doesn't matter that you obviously own a Nvidia graphics card, probably not the cheapest one... That's a poor stance in my opinion, but you have to put up with it. So generally you should visit other places like the forums of '3D Vision blog' to get help consistently.
However, regarding ghosting it was reported that by setting "response time" to "normal" ghosting can be reduced significantly when relying on Nvidia-drivers instead of TriDef-Software.

Nvidia 3d vision is possible with the Samsung 950. You would need 285.79 driver for the monitor to be detected as generic lcd 3d display and just go thru the 3d setup wizard choosing the appropriate images thru each eye. When in-game, enable 3d vision via the emitter button if automatic, and then switch your samsung's 950 3d setting to "frame sequential" and make sure to also switch to "R/L" image. With this, you would need your samsung 3d glasses not the nvidia 3d glasses. Will not work with newer drivers.

Has anyone tried this with a newer driver or would it work to use an older 3D Vision driver in combination with a new display (graphics card) driver?
My card won't be good for most of the 3D titles anyway but I'd love to keep the option open for a new card down the road. I chose the Samsung over the Asus because of its picture quality and design but it would be a pity if that also meant 3D wasn't available at all.

You can use the S27A950D with 3D Vision as long you have a 3D Vision kit. Here is not the right place to discuss that cause it's againts Nvidia forum rules and policy.
I understand why you picked this monitor, cause it looks much better than the Asus and has nice glossy clear screen instead of ugly matte screen like the Asus. I also bought the S27A950D because of the glossy screen. Nvidia partners don't make 3D Vision Ready monitors with glossy screens, so I had to get the Samsung instead.
Anyway, I've been using my S27A950D with the latest Nvidia drivers without a single issue, but I own a 3D Vision kit, and the Nvidia emitter is always connected to my PC as a hardware dongle to have access to 3DV features, but I don't use the Nvidia glasses, cause they don't work with the Samsung monitor, so I'm using Samsung glasses and 3D could never been better. I'm having great fun using this monitor with 3D Vision and playing Batman AC is truly amazing....

I agree 100%, this monitor looks beautiful, I've been through the 2223RZ which was only 1680 X 1050, then moved up to the AW2310 which while 1920 X 1080 had a matte screen and the 23" still wasn't big enough. I have taken Tridef 3D out to a DLP with decent results and was disappointed with 3DTV play on my Samsung C8000 LED due to the 24 fps limit on 1080p gaming, when I saw this monitor and read the reviews and the fact that it could be used in Generic CRT mode with 3D Vision, I eagerly jumped on board because I'd played all of Arkham Asylum on it when I'd had the AW2310 and hoped to finish Batman Arkham City in 3D on this glorious monitor. Save for the finicky touch controls that aren't very tactile, I love the image quality and the gloss adds to the clarity and experience.
I was happily running an SLI GTX 570 config on this monitor when news of the 680 released and the upgrade bug bit me, well ....now I'm on the GTX 680 SLI with the 570's sold only to get a rude shock when I loaded the latest 301.xx drivers and don't see the Generic CRT option, a frantic scan of the boards here , 3d vision blog etc confirm my worst fears, NVidia decided to kneecap 'unauthorized' solutions by taking away CRT support. Thats just great! I'm now equipped with GPU's that can take 3D and physx with better fps and no way to enjoy my 3D!
I don't understand the mentality of this, 3D is a struggling niche that neeeds all the support it can get, being an early 3D enthusiast I've already been through some early frustration when I'd picked up one of the short lived Sammy LED DLPs and used Tridef back in 2008, and were locked out when HDMI 1.4a became the standard. However at least Mitsubishi released the 3DA-1 converter to convert SBS/TD to checkerboard and hope stirred, only to be rudely dashed when Mitsu confirmed that they would be EDID locking the device so it would only recognize signals from a Mitsubishi DLP. Luckily posters at avsforum alerted me to the Gefen HDMI detective workaround which spoofed the EDID and I bought a kit from Tru3d that fixed that which allowed me to enjoy 3D from my PS3 on my good old DLP.Problem solved!! Seeing as Mitsu did it, I guess NVidia is doing the same...and while I understand that you want to push your product, aren't any sales good? And goodwill? Mitsu could have sold many more adapters than the installed base of sets if Sammy owners had access to the benefits of the device straight up just as nVidia could have sold many more 3D Vision kits and glasses than monitors which they don't make in house and are from partners anyway, I suppose the partners want their exclusive license dollars to be worth something and in the end Sammy hasn't covered themselves with glory by turning their backs now on NVidia and earlier, its DLP customer base.....it sure is frustrating to be suffering at the business end of these corporate decisions that effectively leave a substantial customer base out in the cold!
The latest drivers at least do get set up for generic DLP if not CRT but give an ugly error for VESA emitter not found, I guess I'm going to have to at least see if my setup can output to my existing Sammy DLP through what is already a McGyverish workaround with the Gefen through the 3DA-1 and my receiver ...but as good as the DLP is for watching movies, the crisp clarity of LED LCD especially this monitor is unsurpassed, I so wish there were a way to make it work!!
I tried using my old CD drivers from 1.45 but it failed to install because my GPU wasn't recognized, I then downloaded the 285 beta driver and only installed 3D Vision and the USB emitter driver but while they did install, I couldn't see the 3D setup program and the 301.xx control panel didn't show any stereoscopic option, I wonder if I should have perhaps installed only the GPU drivers atop my older ones leaving the 3D drivers in place and still had access to generic CRT..unless the new drivers actively disable it just the same. Can anybody please please PM me if they have a way to make this work? I will try the DLP over the weekend but then my wonderful monitor would be reduced to a 2D 120 Hz monitor which while great isn't why I bought it, also I think the adaptive v-sync on the new GPU might cap frame rate anyway....ah well......the pain of early adopting I guess...welcome to life..on the bleeding edge of tech...and it sucks!! Seriously guys, 3D needs all the support it can get given that glasses are uncomfortable for many, stereo 3D can't be perceived by all, the high entry cost of display devices and the active/passive/lenticular format wars - this isn't the time to balkanize the market by gerrymandering territory out like Mitsu did for its DLPs, NVidia is doing for its 3D Vision and Panasonic and other comapnies with their 3D Blu ray exclusive lock in periods...... Support all 3D and grow the user base, after that let the wars begin and let the quality of your product talk...I mean most who uses 3D vision in preference to Tridef do so because of the great driver support and DirectX 11 ...why not compete fairly and win rather than try and shut out your competition.....
Please see the following link and note that Nvidia was 'dismayed' when told that Tridef worked on NVidia GPU's..

wonder how long before they seek to cripple that somehow!
Sorry I'm very bitter ...and I apologize for the long rant!

@francomg: I guess we're talking about the same "solution" but I'd even get a full kit if it actually helped getting rid of the problem (I like the Nvidia glasses :) ).
As you said the Samsung was the only 27" 3D monitor I really liked, glossy with a nice picture quality. It was a tough decision but I'd never consider getting an ATI or use their funky TriDef driver for real.
@kaltek: There really has to be a solution somehwere to use the screen with those cards both with all their features enabled.

I sure hope so, I am days away from selling this monitor since that would be easier and less expensive rather than ebaying my new GTX 680s for a pair of 580s instead, to be able to use the old driver again. I don't know that I want to lose the gpu upgrade just to enable 3D, given all NVidia and their ilk are doing to kill the fledgling format!
Once again guys, if any of you have any ideas, PM me please, even if it doesn't work, I'll try it at least once.
If only DLPs looked as good as this sweet monitor. Although given they have disabled CRT mode, I wonder how long DLP support is for this world - My HL67A750 supports full checkerboard but uses the Mitsubishi 3DA-1 through a Gefen detective to spoof the EDID of a Mitsubishi HDMI 1.4 compliant DLP, wonder if I can use native checkerboard instead..I did see some notes about rollermod and 1080p@60...anyone please care to enlighten me how rollermod can be used? I also have a Sammy C7000 LED display...can it take checkerboard format ?

You can use the S27A950D with 3D Vision as long you have a 3D Vision kit. Here is not the right place to discuss that cause it's againts Nvidia forum rules and policy.
I understand why you picked this monitor, cause it looks much better than the Asus and has nice glossy clear screen instead of ugly matte screen like the Asus. I also bought the S27A950D because of the glossy screen. Nvidia partners don't make 3D Vision Ready monitors with glossy screens, so I had to get the Samsung instead.

Thanks in advance!

Gefen makes 2 different DVI-D detectives, one has mini display port out. Perhaps one of them would work.
