Passive 3D Television + NVIDIA 3D VISION Is that possible?
Hello guys!

I am about to buy a new tv and it will probably be a passive 3d television and i wonder if i install 3D vision drivers on my computer will I be able to use without buying the NVIDIA kit?

Or

If I buy the 3D VISION KIT, will it work on a PASSIVE 3D TELEVISION ?

I have an sli configuration with 2x GTX 560 and i think it will be enough to handle any of the current games.

Thanks!

I have no first hand experience, but people who have passive LGs report that checkerboard mode/3D Vision doesn't work due to a bug in the TV. There is no known fix.

You need 3DTV Play software (~$40) to get 3D Vision support (Nvidia GPU + PC Game support on your HDTV) on your passive TV. You don't need to buy the Nvidia kit as the hardware will be redundant and incompatible on your HDTV hardware, but 3DTV Play software fee is waived for 3D Vision kit owners.

No. The Nvidia glasses are proprietary active shutter lenses so they are incompatible with your passive 3D TV. They are also incompatible with other HDTVs that use active shutter lenses. General rule of thumb: you have to use the 3D Glasses for your HDTV/LCD manufacturer for 3D functionality. For Nvidia 3D kit that means 3D Vision Ready displays for different mfgs.

GTX 460 SLI should be great for your set-up, but keep in mind with almost all HDTVs on the market you will be limited to current HDMI 1.4 specs, so 720p @ 60Hz per eye or 1080p @ 24Hz per eye rather than 1080p @ 60Hz per eye (DL-DVI/PC specs).
