Is it really worth it, to ditch a 37" to a 22" screen?
1 / 2
Hi,
I am new to these forums. Greetings and Salutations to everyone here.
I have been contemplating on buying this combo of the glasses and screen.
I have used 3d glasses and tested many headsets back in the day for virtual reality and the such and where not that good.
The problem I have is that my pc is hooked up to a 37" 1080p 60hz HDTV Monitor that I have been using and love that setup thru DVI.
The Samsung is a 22" and seems overpriced and I have heard of other posters have a ghosting problem which was common with the old technology. Are these glasses and the 3D effect worth it in my situation? Is it worth going from a 37" to 22" for a gimmicky effect?
For anyone who is interested I will list my pc specs:
Q9550 - 3.4ghz
8gb DDR-1066 RAM
ASUS Rampage Motherboad
Nvidia GTX 295 Dual pcb model
Nvidia 9800GT used for physx
X-FI SoundCard
2 x Seagate 500 gb 32cache hds
1 x DVD Player, 1X DVD Burner
I really do want to upgrade to an I7 real soon. Money is tight but I believe I can squeeze that in.
Also how long will it be until Nvidia does the Intel crap by bring out a new set of glasses down the road - meaning this year.
Also where is the best place to order this combo? Newegg or Nvidia?

I ditched my 37" Westinghouse for the 3D Vision bundle. Took some getting used to but in 3D the display size isn't a huge deal, you're inside the game world.

Hi xp3nd4bl3,
Thanxs for the info. The funny thing is that is the same screen I am using the 37" Westinghouse. I love that screen.
So you are saying it is worth going to the smaller screen. Is the 3d effect really cool?

Same here, I had a 37" Westy. It was wall-mounted and everything and now I am using the 22" Samsung LCD exclusively with my 3D Vision glasses. In fact, I sold my Westy last week... let's just say I don't miss it.

Not gimmicky if it significantly adds to immersion and feel of the games. I am enjoying gaming more than I did for the last couple of years. Things aren't gimmicks just because you don't like them, or don't know about them.

It might sound "gimmicky" but it's not. Once you experience your favorite game in real stereo 3d there's no going back.
I'd much rather have 22" in stereoscopic 3d than 37" in 2d. No contest.

Those specs are great, you won't need a i7 for 3dV (although I do recommend it. I <3 my i7). You're in good shape with that 295 obviously. :)
If it came down to it, I'd say to get 3d Vision before you spend on the i7. If you're into pc gaming, you'll get way more out of adding 3d Vision to your system than swapping out a Core2Quad for a i7. I honestly feel like 3d Vision is the most impactful upgrade to my system since the introduction of the X-Fi.

Not likely. The glasses technology is actually really old, it's been around for at least a decade. What's new is the 120Hz monitor. It's really the monitor that's changing the game and making the glasses viable. I doubt we'll see any huge advance in the glasses for a few years.

Hi pahncrd,
Sorry if i offended you, did not mean to upset you with the word "gimmicky". I just wanted to see if other posters thought it was worth going to this that is all.
I am about immersion, and i am glad for your post as I ordered this bundle so I am a part of the 3d vision crowd.

Way to be man, I plan on gaming as long as my eyes work. I hope you enjoy the new gear (I'm sure you will /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ). Sorry if I sounded annoyed before, but you will see what we mean about the 3d stuff once you get used to it. It is as much a gimmick as shaders or the polygon. ^_^

Well said guys you just converted another one to the wonderfull world of 3D, I feel sorry for MS and Sony as soon nowone want a crappy console anymore haha.
So I second what the guys said and welcome to the 3D Club´as this tech is way more worth then anyother thing can do for gaming /clap.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I have used it for a couple of months now and I say never 2D Gaming for me anymore. I love every minute of it!

I went from a 30" Dell 3007WFP-HC to the 22" Samsung 2233RZ and have not missed it. The difference in size is more than offset by the difference in immersion.
It boils down to "Once you've seen games in real 3D, the pseudo 3d rendering methods seem archaic and boring.
I'd rather replay an old game in real 3d than play a new game in 2d for the first time.

I really do want to upgrade to an I7 real soon. Money is tight but I believe I can squeeze that in.

Doesn't really matter, the combo set is $600 just about everywhere.

Hi pahncrd,
Sorry if i offended you, did not mean to upset you with the word "gimmicky". I just wanted to see if other posters thought it was worth going to this that is all.
I am about immersion, and i am glad for your post as I ordered this bundle so I am a part of the 3d vision crowd.

I'd much rather have 22" in stereoscopic 3d than 37" in 2d. No contest.

So I second what the guys said and welcome to the 3D Club´as this tech is way more worth then anyother thing can do for gaming
I have used it for a couple of months now and I say never 2D Gaming for me anymore. I love every minute of it!

It boils down to "Once you've seen games in real 3D, the pseudo 3d rendering methods seem archaic and boring.
I'd rather replay an old game in real 3d than play a new game in 2d for the first time.
