....suggest that 3D is only going to get better in years to come.

that it may be, but we're talking about 3D Vision (aka the Helix's been doing Nvidia's job thing) future here.
I was thinking Helix should put up a Paypal donation thing. I'm sure lots of people are willing to do so because he is so helpful. Like the previous poster said, maybe there can be a hub where ideas are shared and Helix hands down his knowledge.
I think the term '3d' is associated with the movies in most peoples' minds. When I got my 3d PC setup, I couldn't stop telling people that it's not like the 3d in the movies. 3d in movies is too subtle except for like one scene, where something that is 30 feet away reaches it's arm out and it ends up in front of your face. Unrealistic. If my arm is 3 feet long, and you are 20 feet away from me, my arm shouldn't reach you. Once a bunch of people I know that hate 3d movies saw my PC gaming, they were blown away. That's the conviction that needs to spread.
How does the Oculus work, in terms of it's 3d rendering? Is it a depth buffer thing, or are games that are designed to work with it likely to work fine with 3d vision too?
People have to make there own renderers. Problem is its much more difficult to support since games need distortion + headtracking/tilt.

Here was their response:
As we will be supporting Oculus Rift, the game will have support for stereoscopic 3D (side by side). The only job we would have to do then, is make it possible to have this as a separated functionality through the option menus :) As this is such a relatively easy thing to do, it's highly likely that we will enable this.
If I understand correctly, this means that it actually won't support 3DVision natively, since it only uses side-by-side. I'm sure it can be achieved with a bit of extra work from the dev and/or a modder though.

After all, 99% of Occulus-Rift-compatible games will work just fine on 2D monitors too, with no tilt or headtracking. (not sure what you mean by distortion)
