Mass Effect: can't get S3D at 1920x1080 Anyone could?
Just got Mass Effect from Steam today after avoiding securom from EA distribution DVDs for too long (the real fear was actually of the game not even run due to past experience with EA games). It looks very good in S3D at 1200x1024. I edit the ini file to get it run at 1920x1080 at which resolution, however, the game does not go into S3D and the images kept separated instead. It appears by adding this resolution into the ini (probably not native to the game) somehow causing the Sammy DLP to lose the checkerboard effect in the process. Anyone with the magic touch had done this successfully? The game looks very promising and I am waiting to get the highest res going before going to deep into the story.

Cheers

OK. Found the cause or so I think. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
The culprit is CD 1.08 sorry to say. All games I tried failed 1920x1080 S3D, finally I remembered that I can use the built in test utility that comes with the driver  . It only proves further that at this resolution the Sammy DLP does not go into S3D.

Uninstalled 1.08 and reinstalled 1.07 drivers and high res ie 1920x1080 is back with all its S3D glory.

Bottom line: 1.08 is not good for 1920x1080 + DLP TV + 3DVision setup. That's a data point for team Nvidia, hopefully more people will provide feedback in the next several days.

UPDATE: I've just slapped in a spanking new GTX 285 replacing my old 8800GTS and installed the 1.08 CD driver, between going back and forth from 1.07 to 1.08 with removing driver before installing and NOT removing before installing the newer one, somehow I now got the 1.08 (Latest) driver to run games at 1920x1080 in S3D with no problem. Built in Nvidia logo S3D test runs fine.

I suspect the same could also be true for the 8800GTS. Had I persisted in reinstalling/removal couple times yesterday I probably would have had it run in hi res as well.

Bottom line: There is probably nothing wrong with CD 1.08 release as far as hi res ie 1920x1080 is concerned.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

UPDATE 2:

Just found out why 1.08 CD doesn't allow S3D in res 1920x1080 with a DLP TV: When setting "resize my desktop" to fit the DLP screen it also causes resolution 1920x1080 to become ineffective in S3D. The Nvidia logo tests confirms this observation. Once disable/undo the 'resize desktop' option S3D again is fine with this res. (Note that I haven't tried this with any other resolutions besides the highest allowed for my Samsung DLP ie 1920x1080)

Hope team NVIDIA fixes this in next release.
