DHR and Mike, thank you so much for looking into this!
You are absolutely right. It WAS the flag.

Nexusmods needs the .ini to be made readable and while I have indeed installed a few mods, it looks like one of them did change the flag you mentioned from 0 to 1.
Now it's back to 0, I've made the .ini read only and all is back to normal!
Thank you again!
Well, after getting deeper into the game, I need to take back what I earlier said about Bethesda.
They DID HAVE ambition and I think now that they have created a fantastic game. The atmosphere is captivating and the world addictive.
After a few more patches/modes I believe FO4 will at least reach TW3.
Until then, I will play the "Find your shadow" mini game.
It consists in finding those light sources (few of them in different places) that DO cast shadows.
Finding them feels good. ;)
To be honest it's not going to get much different at this stage - there does not seem to be any major rendering issues being reported (I know of a couple). The HUD needs a new approach, but I don't have time at the moment to look at that. I am just using more key toggles to deal with shaders that get affected by the HUD. One that really surprised me was a shader to bring the power armour hud into less depth, and that affected a particular lighting shader so lights would shine through a wall. This is crazy. But for now, I have a toggle key. Later I will try something more sophisticated.
When you or DHR package the fix for release on HelixMod, you might want to include the .ini file for the game that sets the compute shaders off. With that as part of the install, it would make it less likely for people to miss it. Could also set any other settings to preferred choices.

Like finding the center of a UI element and a brand new workflow for filtering different icons when texture filtering alone is insufficient (forget texture coordinate filtering, this is way better and way faster)... I'll be releasing an update to the Far Cry 4 fix in the near future demonstrating these new capabilities.

Because of these mods, I am wandering mainly by night. It's so immersive that you won't believe you are not there. :)
The semi-bad thing is that all these mods (esp ones) are created with forked tools from previous games like Skyrim. That means that no 100% guaranteed that no issues with game or savegame structure as official tools won't be released this year.
(ot at least until FO4Edit officially be released, forked TES5EDIT,FO4snip is another one but this had issues as tesVsnip or Tessnip so..)
