...you are kind of right, if the space is an issue. for what i have experienced and understood The long throw is just recommendation to improve color uniformity, but there is uniformity issues anyways with omegas, but actual gameplay hardly shows them. Polarizers i would not even recommend to a gaming setup. the ghosting would be an issue in many games if one would like to keep decent image separation for good depth effect
Hmm, you can watch 3D in Checkerboard? The glasses sync up?
If so, Checkerboard should be supported by 3DTV Play @60Hz.
If the projector supports it in the software, is it projector limiting you to 24Hz?
I've yet to see a projector support Checkerboard, although recently I saw that the LG PF100oU Ultra Short throw shows it as a selectable format in a YouTube video.
i couldn't get the glasses to sync on checker board (i used only the DLP link - not the nvidia) but the resolution seems to be worse with checkerboard. The 24Hz restriction is probably from the software - with 1920x 1080 @ 120HZ custom res the refresh rate was better and the resolution was visually identical to 1080p (no scaling noticeable).
Regarding the polarized filters - the nvidia 3d vision 2 glasses are far better (no issues, smooth, very good colors, clear image, no flicker, no ghosting) the only thing necessary is to remove the thick heavy frame. Personally I would not even consider to go polarized as I can not see any benefit over the active glasses

Yep, Checkerboard will not work unless it specifically supported in the Display Menu.
Nvidia might have it as an option in their drop down menu, but if the display can not demux it, it will not work.
Hi everybody, I was going to buy a Benq w1110 but when I saw FireballOne's pictures comparing the Benq 1080st with the acer predator z650... I reconsidered. I assumed Benq 1080 should be similar, image quality wise, to the Benq 1110. Since I can't seem to find good quality reviews on the internet, could you please comment a bit on the image quality on the z650? For example black levels, contrast ratio, colors... But maybe your pictures already answered these question. These might be more interesting though: how does it handle movement without frame interpolation (which it should be uncapable of)? Does it judder? Is it equally good for movies? Is it loud? Does anybody think there is a valid alternative at this price range (Benq, Optoma, Vivitek...)? Sorry if I asked too many question ;)

i can give you my experience with these two. On the store i work for, ive seen them side by side. They are actually pretty similar in terms of image quality, very slight edge towards w1110 with a little higher contrast ratio, more accurate and vibrant colors. This was measured after calibration, both had pretty good profiles out of the box though. Input lag. z650 wins this, one mode had under 10ms input lag! It was game or sport, i dont remember which it was called. Other modes had around 50ms. W1110 has 30ms input lag on basically all of its modes. Measured lamp birghtness was pretty much equal, both around 1600 lumens on high lamp. W1110 has much, much lower operating noise.
Unfortunately i didnt get to compare 3d performance. Both use dlp 3d glasses.
Both are excellent, if i had to pick one id go with w1110 but i think im biased towards it since i have one already. Also the w1110 is 200 euros cheaper in here. You really cant go wrong with either of them in my opinion, pick whichever suits you better. Note that z650 is short throw projector. IIRC z650 comes with 3d glasses, w1110 doesnt.
Last, take this with a little grain of salt. I didnt do the testing or calibration myself. I know the guy who did, he has some experience in these sort of things but not that much. input lag or lamp brightness is not easy to f up, calibration is easier. Do it wrong and contrast and color measurements would be wrong.

Thank you very much Sammy123 for your insights. Now I don't understand how could FireballOne's pictures show such a difference between w1080st and z150, maybe different settings? Or 1080st being older and needing a lamp replacement? Since I might be interested in the short throw feature (it allows for more flexible placing in small rooms) did you also had the chance to compare w1110 with w1080st? Pity the acer is noisy

Sorry, no chance to compare w1080st against anything. Its a big difference in that picture regards to brightness and color but its hard to judge properly from a picture that is not very well taken. I could put 2 w1110 side by side and make the difference almost similar by just choosing low/high lamp and vivid/cinema presets. cinema mode with low lamp mode would look dull and lifeless against vivid with high lamp in a picture. In reality the cinema mode would be actually the better choice but would look so much worse in a sbs comparison with a low quality camera.
Anyway, if you benefit from short throw then definitely go with z650. Its a great projector and has good out of the box profiles.

Gotta agree with sammy its really pointless to compare any projectors with images Taken.
It should be done with meters and software or just personal oppinnion writen down.
And bottom line is every choise is a compromice unless you custom order a projector
Made for you. With 600 bucks you get certain Things and other product At the same
Price gives you different attributed but Overal features with 600 bucks.
One just have to decide what is my budget and what Are the Things i want
More from my projector

Thank you Metaloholic. The budget issue for me it's not between benq/acer z650 (their price is similar), and like you said, it's more a feature issue (long/short throw, noisy/laggish... etc) which I'm trying to figure out. As to budget I think I have two kind of budget in mind:
1. This is my first projector so maybe I should try a "cheaper" one like acer z150 or benq 1080st/1110, and see how it works in my daily use with games and movies, even if it's not the best in image quality, motion, black level etc. Plus these are all DLPs and, being a 3d addicted, I'd like to try this technology.
2. I read the sony VPL-HW45ES should be far superior in image quality and it's still in the affordable price range. There is also a guy in this forum who wrote some quite enthusiast post about it in 3d vision, but because of my inexperience with projectors I'm not sure if the quality difference can justify such a price difference (almost three times as much), plus it's LCOS and not DLP thus could have more ghosting.

Image wise Sony plays in different ballpark. I have not seen this Sony but i ihave mitsubishi hc5 that uses Sony panels.
I would bet my balls Sony has far superiour picture and really low noise levels and far deeper blacks. And if you have no
Experience in projectors i can tell you no matter do you see the rainbow effect or not when demoing 1-chip dlp and any 3 chip machine
When you switch from 1 chip to 3 chip you can "feel" the difference. 3 chip is just soooo much easier on the eyes.
But i have not yet gone and check out the 3d picture of the 45 Sony ect never sxrd/lcos/LCD/Dila projectors and in the past
1-chip dlp has beaten them with lower/ none existent crosstalk.
And the 3D picture in them is really good. But if the image is good enough in 3d on Sony i would not even hesitate.
Allthough you gotta know Sony has not yet gotten in control the Ageing panel issues.

it's not 120HZ native but you can use the workaround.
Otherwise I've just picked up my jaw and changed pants - the projector is incredible. Perfect match for the black smart projection surface. even my monitor seems dull and washed out colors ... some more pics coming with demo of the dynamic range - it's more than human eye can cope with and not even my A7S could deal with it ... and that's something what's not happening very often

Hi, I'm considering of upgrading my Optoma HD67N to the z650 projector but I wonder if it will work in 1920x1080 120hz using the custom resolution with 3d vision (not 3DTV play).I realize it's not native 120hz full hd. Can you confirm this?

Hi, I'm considering of upgrading my Optoma HD67N to the z650 projector but I wonder if it will work in 1920x1080 120hz using the custom resolution with 3d vision (not 3DTV play).I realize it's not native 120hz full hd. Can you confirm this?
