Nvidia 3D Vision 2 glasses compatible with 3D bluray player like ps3 or ps4?
I have a Asus gaming monitor (24" 1080p, 1MS response time, 144 hz refresh rate) that is 3D ready. My question is will I be able to use the 3D Vision 2 glasses with a ps3 or ps4 to watch 3d bluray movies when either machine is connected to the 3D ready monitor? The ps4 can do 3d bluray movies right now (3D gaming might come with future updates) so the hardware already is 3D capable as you need a 3D capable input, a 3D output and a means to make the 3D visible via a infrared transmitter which I believe comes with the 3D Vision glasses. On the box of the 3D Vision glasses it says you need 3 things: Nvidia 3D ready display, Nvidia GeForce/QUADRO GPU, Windows Vista/7. On the back of the box it also says "Experience 500+ 3D bluray movies". I'm thinking why should they limit you to use only a pc for watching 3d bluray movies and not 3d bluray players like ps3/ps4? I really hope there is no catch here. I also have a rig with windows 7 and a GTX 680 capable of 3D, however I don't have a bluray drive on it and want to use my ps4 to watch 3d bluray movies on my monitor. Despite the ps4 having a AMD Radeon GPU and not running Windows OS would it still be able to output 3d bluray movies via my 3d ready monitor with the Nvidia 3D Vision glasses? If someone who had first hand experience trying this or who can confirm this it would help a lot and would be greatly appreciated! I already bought the Nvidia 3D Vision kit but don't want to open the box before I can get a confirmation if it will work with either ps3 or ps4. Thanks

I'm not totally sure what model you have, but unless it comes with a built in emitter the answer is no. Your PS3 would need to talk to the USB emitter and tell it how to sync, which it won't do. Some revisions of the VG278H work with the built in emitter+PS3, but I don't believe even all of those work - it's luck of the draw more than anything. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You should check out 3d gaming on a PC sometime though, it's amazing.

My monitor is a VG248Q with no built in emitter but it says 3D ready on the stand. How much do 24" monitors with built in emitters go for these days? I herd they cost a fortune somewhere in the $600-$800 range. In that case shouldn't I go with the 24" Playstation 3DTV which has built in emitter and costs $300? I herd those TVs have been discontinued since many reported problems with them and they wouldn't last very long. Also I noticed picture quality on a monitor looks 100 times crisper than on HDTV due to the monitor having much higher quality LCD technology than HDTVs anyway so that would probably be a bad idea lol. I'll stick to my monitor I guess unless I can find another 24" with a built in 3D emitter for around $300. So even the ps4 won't be able to read the USB emitter that comes in the 3D Vision kit?

I checked the ports of my monitor for any USB ports and although it doesn't have any USB ports it does have a Display port which looks very similar to a USB port. I wonder if I can connect my 3D emitter via USB to my monitor this way instead of hooking the emitter to my ps3 or ps4? Would I need an adapter (USB to Display adapter) that would let me connect the USB emitter to my monitor's Display port? And even if I could do that I wonder if the 3D emitter would turn my monitor 3D?

Not going to work. Displayport outputs video. The emitter needs a data connection. I really don't see any way to do this, unless you can get a VG278H. There are two models though, and no way to tell the difference. One allows for SBS input over HDMI, the other does not. I think the PS3 might use framepacking though, and that's something I'm not sure of. I can tell you it works on mine, but I don't know if it will work on both models. Maybe there's a store somewhere local where you could test one out?
