Alan Wake 3D
Hi. I am trying to play Alan Wake in 3D mode but I can't adjust convergence well. I think its because game its a bit broken, and some objects doesn't have apropiated depth. I have seen helixmod page, but with that patch, game look even worse than default. Do you know if there is any other patch that actually works well with 3D Vision in Alan Wake? Thanks a lot.

As far as I remember this game was always broken. At some point Devs been trying to fix it in 3D, they even communicate with players on theirs forum about it but after all it stayed broken.

-Follow all the steps on the helix page in the commentary section: http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2014/08/alan-wake.html -Download also: https://docs.google.com/uc?authuser=0&id=0BzaqFJRlfzzcU3l2Wi1aNjgyMHc&export=download -Only use the 17/20 convergence value. -Disable Shadows. It must be excellent now as it is for me after all those steps.

Hey guys. To be honest I'm having a hard time making sense of all the posts on the blog. Is there no way to play the steam version with shadows enabled?

Unfortunately not, by the sounds of it.

It seems you're supposed to delete the shadows shader in the override folder. The shadows work well by default as long as the FOV is at 17. The FOV changes when you run and shadows get a bit weird but that's not overly bothersome most of the time. I have noticed very few glitches so far: some billboard lights rendering in one eye from long distance, and some stars also showing in one eye only (for some reason I don't mind it, makes them seem more shimmery). Otherwise, holy crap, this is showcase material. Way better than I expected. If it remains like this for the rest of the game, it's going in my 3D top10 for sure. Highly recommended and thanks Neo Vad, you're a boss.

Is it okay to ressurect this thread? Because I'd like to. Also how can I post comments on the helixmod blogspot? I tried it before and it never worked, my comment never showed. : \ I'm playing the GOG version of the game, the exact version it reports is 1.06.17.0155. Anisotonic is right. setting the FOV to 17 makes the shadows look okay unless the FOV changes while running or at camera actions sometimes. But there are still some issues. None of the patches or methods on helixmod site fixes them. It is really a pity because I would love this game in 3d! The only thing that looks off is some of the light ray/beam effects, like the lighthouse's beam at the very beginning. Using the debug DLL I have found its CRC32 to be 0E416B2F. But I don't want to disable the effect, that's just too much to sacrifice. I'd like to fix it's stereo position, but I can't. I tried to look at how to do that but I couldn't understand what to do. Can anybody fix this please? Would it help if I uploaded my alanwake exe or something?... PS. The moon is at wrong depth too. Also there are some halos around enemies but only when they are at a bigger disatance. Maybe it's a LOD thing?... It's not that much disturbing though.

I bet that the enemy shield halo shader would have been fixed but was too hard to hunt down. We regularly see similar halo effects get sorted out.
