Quadro Driver for 3D Vision in May? (perhaps in the 185 Release.....?)

As a non-gamer (at least, at work) sitting on a 3D Vision rig and patiently waiting for stereo-in-a-window support (which my geographic information system apps require), I frequently troll other forums for any info on a Quadro driver for 3d Vision. Found this, with a nod to the Google, on the molecular visualization PyMOL Users Group archive.

Again, there seems to be an untapped, barely recognized market out there that Nvidia is well-positioned to exploit. We'll buy a half a dozen 3D setups as soon as there's a Quadro driver and I bet that feeling is shared by lots of others in academic and scientific endeavors.

You know, you're probably right. The academic & business applications of 3d Vision tech could be huge if they market it right. Imagine the architectural firms that would be glad to make their client pitches in 3d, or the med schools that would love to teach genetics & molecular biology in 3d. And all of those places have plenty of money to buy 3d Vision packages. The market could arguably be bigger for academics & business than for gamers.
I really think 3d Vision technology could be a HUGE win for nvidia if they just put their muscle behind it.

I've submitted my own plea for a Vista/XP Quadro driver through this forum and Nvidia's driver feedback page in hopes we'll get some kind of a sign or update somewhere, even if it's not here in this forum. I talked my company into getting 3D Vision back in February by telling them quad buffered support was 'right around the corner' and that we'd be able to view and interpret stereo pairs of aerial photos on a thin, light, and reasonably-priced single widescreen monitor. I'm losing face and credibility but still hoping Nvidia hit's a walk-off homer and saves the day. Short of trying to talk them into letting me experiment with an iZ3D rig (not likely), that's about all I can do at this point.

I tried the zalman 3D monitor, and while the 3D was very good the vertical view angle was a bit limited for our application. It uses the nvidia drivers as well, so no opengl on the zalman yet either. I haven't tried the iz3d, does anybody know if it has the same 3D view angles as the zalman?
Also, I was thinking of registering on the nvidia developer program to see if I would have any luck with the opengl drivers there. Anybody tried this?

The link at the bottom to the Quadro page has been eliminated (though the Quadro page itself still mentions the "upcoming driver release by spring 2009"). I hope this doesn't imply that they're giving up on quad-buffered stereo!

I received a response from my direct question May 15th:
Q: Will the 185 workstation driver allow for Quad buffered openGL stereo in a window?
I ask this because I will have the same problem if it was designed to only address full screen stereo. I am one of many professionals who are simply looking to get rid of their CRT monitors.

We use shutter glasses from Stereographics, although this tend to break up quite easily and so we bought several EDimensional shutters.
Aerial stereopairs seem to display incorrectly on the 2233RZ when using either the Stereographics or the Edimensional glasses.
We can only achieve a perfect stereo image at the the screen bottom at its first 1/3.
The next 2/3 (middle screen) display two ghostly images, and at the top screen, pseudoscopy (Inverted Stereo) is displayed.
Not too sure what causes this effect, but so far we tryied several Quadro drivers and changed to XP Pro having no effect.
We then purchased the 3D vision Glasses hoping they could improve the display, but so far we were unable to make them work with any Quadro fx. (3400 and 4600)
The glasses normal configuration, on Geforce boads works well, and the 2233RZ shows no sign of ghosting nor pseudoscopy, although all our software products fail to recognize the GeForce-(Quad buffer/page flip).
My wild guess is that the actual quadro drivers are only compatible with normal CRT´s, maybe some some function is used to correct the image elliptical refraction, and this dosent displays well on the LCD screen.
If not, what causes this strange effect on the 2233RZ screen, did anyone here experienced this already?

You are currently in Nvidia's no man's land as far as the 3D Vision thing goes. You have the hardware required but there are no cartographic apps that will run on it since quad-buffering is needed, but yet to be supported. Some games and movies (full-screen required) are the only things 3D Vision supports at the moment. However, the Quadro faithful believe a prophesied driver is coming, perhaps as soon as this last week of spring. ;-)
Regarding the use of StereoGraphics or EDimensional 3D glasses, I have no idea, but others are are having similar issues (see [url="http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2972"]here[/url] and [url="http://www.mail-archive.com/pymol-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg06643.html"]here[/url]). BTW, I just discovered that PyMOL also has a useful 3D wiki [url="http://pymolwiki.org/index.php/Stereo_3D_Display_Options"]here[/url].

At work we only have old Hyundai crt´s along with a couple LG N2200P.
I convinced my boss to purchase one of these Samsung 2233RZ for testing purposes, since my LG crt is near death, the display is too dark and no longer can display 100 Hz at 1280x1024.
I´ve contacted Nvidia customer support and it seems that there are no plans for a Quadro Fx Driver for The 3D Vision glasses anytime soon.

The idea of Nvidia producing 3D glasses incompatible with their own brand of high end boards simply blows my mind. >.<
Even EDimensional glasses work as good as any Stereographics, and cost only $99, with emitter included.

Where do you see this driver download? I can only find v186.08 GPU driver and v185.85 stereo driver.

I talked my company into getting 3D Vision back in February by telling them quad buffered support was 'right around the corner' and that we'd be able to view and interpret stereo pairs of aerial photos on a thin, light, and reasonably-priced single widescreen monitor. I'm losing face and credibility but still hoping Nvidia hit's a walk-off homer and saves the day. Short of trying to talk them into letting me experiment with an iZ3D rig (not likely), that's about all I can do at this point.

I was so sure about the 2233RZ screen that we bought one to run a few tests.
We use shutter glasses from Stereographics, although this tend to break up quite easily and so we bought several EDimensional shutters.
Aerial stereopairs seem to display incorrectly on the 2233RZ when using either the Stereographics or the Edimensional glasses.
We can only achieve a perfect stereo image at the the screen bottom at its first 1/3.
The next 2/3 (middle screen) display two ghostly images, and at the top screen, pseudoscopy (Inverted Stereo) is displayed.
Not too sure what causes this effect, but so far we tryied several Quadro drivers and changed to XP Pro having no effect.
We then purchased the 3D vision Glasses hoping they could improve the display, but so far we were unable to make them work with any Quadro fx. (3400 and 4600)
The glasses normal configuration, on Geforce boads works well, and the 2233RZ shows no sign of ghosting nor pseudoscopy, although all our software products fail to recognize the GeForce-(Quad buffer/page flip).
My wild guess is that the actual quadro drivers are only compatible with normal CRT´s, maybe some some function is used to correct the image elliptical refraction, and this dosent displays well on the LCD screen.
If not, what causes this strange effect on the 2233RZ screen, did anyone here experienced this already?
Does anyone knows if the vesa 3.5mm jack on the emitter can be used to plug to the mini Din 3D on the back of the quadro board, or is this just for the DLP HD Tv´s?
Any feedback regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated!

You are currently in Nvidia's no man's land as far as the 3D Vision thing goes. You have the hardware required but there are no cartographic apps that will run on it since quad-buffering is needed, but yet to be supported. Some games and movies (full-screen required) are the only things 3D Vision supports at the moment. However, the Quadro faithful believe a prophesied driver is coming, perhaps as soon as this last week of spring. ;-)
Regarding the use of StereoGraphics or EDimensional 3D glasses, I have no idea, but others are are having similar issues (see [url="http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2972"]here[/url] and [url="http://www.mail-archive.com/pymol-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg06643.html"]here[/url]). At work we only have old Hyundai crt´s along with a couple LG N2200P.
I convinced my boss to purchase one of these Samsung 2233RZ for testing purposes, since my LG crt is near death, the display is too dark and no longer can display 100 Hz at 1280x1024.
I´ve contacted Nvidia customer support and it seems that there are no plans for a Quadro Fx Driver for The 3D Vision glasses anytime soon.

So my hope resides in finding a way to hack the emmiter thru the vesa 3.5mm plug on its back.
At work we only have old Hyundai crt´s along with a couple LG N2200P.
I convinced my boss to purchase one of these Samsung 2233RZ for testing purposes, since my LG crt is near death, the display is too dark and no longer can display 100 Hz at 1280x1024.
I´ve contacted Nvidia customer support and it seems that there are no plans for a Quadro Fx Driver for The 3D Vision glasses anytime soon.
