Flight Simulator X Couple of Questions - Help
Hi...

I LOVE ME FLIGHT SIM!!!!!!! (in fact i love it so much that it's the only game i play 2d...heh)

K, now that's out of the way...

Has anyone here had any experience with it in 3d? I tried it and it works pretty well up until you're looking at the runway.. in which the lights you see double of.... and can't figure out which one to aim for in order to land correctly... lol. You can imagine my frustration when I'm all lined up only to realize i'm about 200 yard to the right when about to touch down... lol.

Also I would love to get it working in DX10 mode as that mode seems to get much better fps than dx9.. but nothing happens when i turn it on... weird. dx9 displays that 3d just fine though... I've tried other games in dx10 and they work.. what gives?

Those are my 2 concerns... This is by far my most played game/sim and would love to have it in full 3d if possible. The game has been out for 3 years now and I'm sure some of you have had some sort of experience with this in 3d... help a broda out! lol, thx

change the exe name to "crysis.exe", it will give you a huge performance boost.

The tip is from this thread:

FSX is my most played game ever. I have a yoke, rudder pedals and a 4 engine throttle with flaps and spoilers control to experience the most realsitic home flight sim. I can't sleep if I don't fly for at least an hour lol. The problem u r describing is generally caused by the way Microsoft programmed FSX. Some objects such as lights are in 2D with no proper depth information for 3D drivers to turn them into 3D image. I've got used to flying it this way and now I can pretty much figure out landings at night. But mostly I fly daytime. FSX is the most beautiful game in 3D.

IT WORKED!!! yay, improved fps too! I guess it will get some taking used to as far as the lights go, be everything seems pretty nice... little bit of ghosting on some planes but easily overshadowed by the awesomeness the 3d effect brings to this sim!

Ohh, didn't know that the lights are only 2D.

Perhaps this can help? Has anyone this product?

3D lights Redux from A2A simulations

Edit:
Ok, I think those are only for lights attached to the plane.

Oh man... IDK... has anyone tried them? Doesn't say anything 3d about the runway lights... though it would be AWESOME!!! One more thing, seems like i get really pretty good fps hit when i'm in bumit view of the twin engine planes.... anyone else confirm this?

Another quick note... I have FSPassengersX and now wont work because of the crysis.exe change. Anyone know how to fix that?

Hi everybody,

In FSX, there is no proper 3D information for runway light? I don't think so.
I found that the TriDef's 3D driver works well with FSX lightings, also it seems to work well with Nvidia's shutter glasses.
You can try the driver in 14 days trial mode.

The bad news is it's only compatible with 32bit OS. Nowadays gamers are flocking to Wins 7 in droves ...they need to step up to 64 bit OS, IMO.

I'm glad there's a flight sim thread even it's only for FSX. There is this feature called "convergence presets" that I've been lobbying NVidia for years without any results, maybe you guys as flightsim heads want to chip in and post your request or support for this feature request:

Quote from old threads, posted by me:

1.

"I'm also for this calling to attention to Nvidia/Ubisoft as well. I love simulation games and since there hasn't been a S3D compatible WWII submarine game in the market for so long it would be great to put my hands on one that really is.

If this game allows user to pause and jump to the outside view roaming the sim world then it also must have user customizable convergence presets. Virtually all simulation games must have these presets in order to have the same depth immersion between the inside (close view) and outside (sim world) views.

So while at it, please NVDIA/Team 3DVISION: put in couple convergence presets key for the users!"

2.

"The features I feel 3DVision should and must have now but don't:

1- Presets of convergence settings: 2 or 3 user defined presets can be stored for each game. This feature is essential for Flight Sim and Racing games where there are two distinct environs exist. bumpit view and outside view. It's such a fundamental requirement for such a producct and 3DVision should make it possible, convenient and readily available for users to play all games including Flight simulators and car racing games. I've made this suggestions 5 years ago in this forum and recently bumped that thread, Andrew read it and thought it was a good request but still several releases have passed and I still don't see it got worked on. Some updates about this feature would be appreciated. Auto convergence is nice but it doesn't really work well as per my experience with iZ3D implementation so I don't think Nvidia should get hung up on trying to do that, just make it simple by giving users couple presets. It has worked for iZ3D, I loved their 3 presets."

3. This is another example not only flightsim and racing games need presets:

"Fallout 3: Pipboy's out of whack. Convergence on this pipboy is way different than the rest of the environment making me go blind every time. Please team Nvidia kindly provide a second saved setttings for occasions like this, or may be two such settings à la iZ3D driver. Autoconvergence is something to think about but an interim workaround as saved settings would be great for gaming."

4. And this was posted on Oct. 2005, yep it was requested 4 years ago by me:

"Dear 3D stereo devs,

Game genres like car racing, fligh simulators, or any other vehicular simulator be it water submersible or space worthy vessel games , and even some first person shooter and definitely some role playing games where first and third person views are allowed , all these genres share a common characteristics : for flight and other vehicular simulators , close view when inside the bumpit (or in first person perspective for other genres) that involves only a small depth range , and external views (or third person perspective) that involves a much larger depth range.

These two different depth ranges require users must constantly adjust and readjust the convergence of these two spaces when they leave one and enther the other and vice-versa.

In all the following flight simulators, MS Combat Flight Simulator 3, MS Flight Simulator 2004, IL-2 Forgotten battles and its add-ons, Lock-On: Modern Air Combat and its addons, Janes F/A 18, Janes WW2 Fighters, Project 1: Strike Fighters, Wings Over Vietnam, Falcon 4: Allied Force, Enemy Engaged Comanche Hokum, and HEAT, GPL, and other Nascar racing titles, as well as most of the Rally racing titles, when users leaving the inside bumpit view to go to external views , specially in flight simulators, users have to click Ctrl-F6 combo keys approximately from 100 to 150 times in order to get the convergence suitable for external views . The same number of combo keys Ctrl-F5 also needed to pressed when users come back inside view from external (from third person back to first person view, these key presses are often requires less clicks but still it remains a non precise, time consuming that interfere with the immersion feeling) . These click fests are at best big annoyances and at worst I've seen were destroying happy families of wonderful people and many small children.

Please consider provide an enhancement to the two combo keys that you have currently in the stereo3D driver namely Ctrl-F5 and Ctrl-F6 (decrease/increase convergence) to allow the following:

-Set convergence for inside bumpit and save that setting
-Set convergence for external views and save that setting
-From then on, whenever user leaving one space of depth range into the other space of a different depth range, user needs to only push another key (or combo keys) to load the preset convergence for that space . This key can either be just a toggle key for both settings. (Toggling involves most only two key strokes, that beats 150 key strokes any day).

This enhancement will be enjoyed by millions gamers/simmers who will continue to buy graphics cards that powered by Nvidia family of chips until there is no tomorrow. :D

Most appreciative"
