Samsung DLP - 3D - Vista drivers Maybe I'm just missing something...
I have a Samsung HL-T5687S & the i-glasses viewers. Tridef software works just fine but gaming options are extremely limited. I've read posts regarding a registry patch to convert the page flipping for checkerboard, but this is not working for me.
From what I've read, it seems that nVidia's stereo drivers for Vista are limited to anaglyph-- is this still the case?
I'm running an AMD dual core 3800+, dual EVGA 7900GTX's (not running SLI for 3D), Windows Vista, & nVidia driver 175.19.
I would love to run Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 3D, & also Need for Speed: Carbon (I own the game, but had to crack it anyway to force the game into 1920x1280 (sweet, btw)). I also have a collection of 3D graphics demo prgorams which which be mind blowing in stereo (see www.scene.org to get an idea what I mean). The Tridef game launcher is junk.
Has anyone gotten 3D-DLP running correctly on nVidia cards on Vista yet without the use of Tridef's crappy launcher?

Well, I've been able to get Need for Speed: Carbon running in 3D by using the Tridef launcher to run it as Need for Speed: Prostreet, & it works with the widescreen hack well. I had to jack down a lot of the graphics options (motion blur, shader level, graphic treatment, road reflection) in order for it to run decently on my rig, but the 3D effect is definitely working.
I've also been able to get some of my graphic demos running by setting them up through the launcher to run them as Prostreet as well. Only a few work well like this, but I didn't expect extensive success, anyway. They're very unconventional programs & even on my iGlasses PC 3D Pro HMD only a few were compatible (under my old XP load).
I contacted Tridef support about open ended drivers, & the following is an excerpt of their reply:
"DDD/TriDef is looking at a more generic 3-D Game solution, but there is no estimated release date at this time."
Interestingly, after I received this reply, I was prompted by the Tridef launcher to download an updated Tridef 3D Experience bundle, version 3.3.1 (from 3.3.0). I don't know what the changes are.
In any case, I would still encourage nVidia to update their Vista drivers to recognize Samsung (& Mitsubishi) 3D enabled displays so we with similar setups don't have to go through this tedious process.

I posted a Thread About This on the gaming forum (This was before i was aware of this section)
I too use a 61" Samsung DLP with the Tridef Package. The 3D effect works great, but the framerates take a severe hit from using unoptimized, generic, DirectX 9.0c drivers. This is a shame with my GTX260, Phenom quad core processor and 4GB of 1066 DDR2. I think it's incredibly dumb for nvidia to limit their driver support to a handful of small-screen, very expensive monitors (whith inferior quality, BTW), especially when it doesn't seem as though the checkerboarding would be any more difficult to implement than what they already do with the zalmans. In fact, i read somewhere that you could hack the nvidia drivers to do just that in older windows XP releases, but not in Vista x64, which i use.
I just hope nvidia comes around soon and keeps their customers happy. It would seem like the customer base is much bigger with people hooking up their HTPCs to big-screen DLPs.

You're absolutely right. I've been a 3D enthusiast for several years now, & I bought this specific model DLP & i-glasses package for something I wasn't expecting to be such an issue.
I had been running my rig with one EVGA 7900GTX & the i-glasses 3D PC Pro HMD for about a year under XP (even then, that was a driver-juggling process), but when I added a second 7900GTX, my XP load took a nosedive. I wasn't able to get it going again & was forced to go Vista (to my chagrin). I haven't been able to try the headset out on this load unfortunately, because it stopped powering up & I haven't sent it in for repair yet. I expect I would run into similar problems (current forceware limited to anaglyph on Vista).
The 3D PC Pro headset is great, but its hard to 'share' the experience with friends (one at a time viewing). I had been eager to get 3D in a big screen format for a while, & thought this new setup would be the answer.
To a degree it is, but again, I wasn't expecting the software support to be so lacking.
Can we get a shout-out from others waiting for DLP 3D support from nVidia?? Lets keep up the demand & let them know we're still here, & still waiting! :D

I was still thinking about getting this tridef setup, is it true you can avoid the tridef software and just use nvidia drivers?
I guess there is no way to do this on say an ati 4850 card with their drivers?
The only thing i'd really like to try 3d with, is Flight simulator x and maybe bluray movies..
Unfortunately i've leaped to ati, though i can switch back i suppose.. (i'm on vista x64)

Since nvidia has copletely abandoned checkerboard 3D driver support, it doesn't matter if you have ATI or nvidia. The drivers come from DDD, so it'll work with either card.
nvidia used to support this natively under windows XP after a registry hack, but that is no longer the case. Supposedly they'll come back with native support, but i'llblieve it when i see it... maybe 5 years from now.
I trid that card, btw, the 4850. It's supposedly a great card, better performance to price ratio than you get with nvidia. However, the HDMI sound did not work with my particular combination of TV/Video card/soundcard for whatever reason, so i returned it and got a GTX260. $100 more and roughly the same performance (maybe slightly better), but the sound works.
