ASUS VG278H stuck in 3D mode
This is noticeable when you have adjusted the contrast of the monitor when it is in 3D mode (which i have done to reduce ghosting). There are a few quirks with this monitors emitter that were not present with Nvidias external emitter.

-Despite enabling "Hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts" the monitor will go into 3D mode. The actual separation of the image will not engage, however, the emitter will turn on and therefore the contrast will lower.
-If you do enable 3D and exit the application 3D mode will remain on and the monitors contrast will remain low. (if you leave the application without enabling 3D the monitor will return to 2D mode and the contrast will be at its default)
-The only way to restore the monitor to 2D mode is to reset the PC.

All of this can also be confirmed by checking the monitors menu function which will say "3D-Mode" in red letters in the upper right of its menu.

I am running the latest drives 295.73

I can get it to reset back to 2D by opening, or closing if it is already open, my Firefox browser.

I'll give that a try, i usually use Chrome which does not disable 3D.

Mine does this also.

I switch the nvidia setting on and off with the keyboard shortcuts and it goes back to normal.

Some games do not automatically turn off the 3D mode on my setup, so I just open internet explorer and then close it and that shuts off 3D mode.

Doesn't Ctrl + T disables 3D???? If not, than that's one more reason why I don't trust 3D Vision Ready monitors like the Asus that have built in emitters.

I used to own a Alienware 3D Vision Ready 120hz display and it would get stuck in 100% brightness even when 3D mode was off, but the 3D option was selected in the Nvidia control panel, so my Desktop looked horrible and washed out due to the 100% stucked brightness. I would have to disable 3D in the Nvidia control panel in order to be able to control brightness level in 2D mode. Who wants to be in 2D with 100% brightness, it looks horrible and its bad for your eyes? Also, I never liked that when 3D mode was enabled I could not make changes in brightness, it was locked at 100% while in 3D, like most of 3D Vision Ready displays.

These issues with my Alienware AW2310 display such as 2D mode stuck in 100% locked brightess if 3D is enabled in the NCP were never fixed despite many posts that were made in this forum and even Andrew has addressed this to Nvidia devs, since it was an Nvidia driver bug with the monitor I had.

I'm just glad now that I own a S27A950D monitor, that has it's own 3D tech, doesn't need a 3D Vision player or stereoscopic player, it's 100% flicker free cause it uses a very modern bluetooth active 3D glasses with rock solid link. I can control brightness and contrast in 2D and 3D mode, brightness is not locked in 3D mode.
I have to manually enabled Frame Sequential mode, and I like that, cause I don't suffer from the problems generated by Nvidia drivers like getting stuck in 3D mode, since the monitor does 3D its own way and only uses Nvidia drivers for 3D Vision unnoficial support. No flicker, no issues, no bugs, just plain perfect 3D. Not to mention 3D picture is very bright and ghosting level is minimal using this monitor.

Hmm have not found one (S27A950D) that did not come with cheap battery glasses and lightbleeding left side (parts) and lower right side corner. Something that a lot of Asus don't suffer from. Lets see yeah you paid $600+ $100 then for the rechargeable glasses (same looking as cheap battery ones)unless you love buying batteries. Stuck with older Nvidia drivers if you use 3Dvision..lol try to say theres no differences with 285 vs newer drivers a with 3D there is. And to say TRIDEF is better then 3D vision .. well enough said right there huh. :D have you even compared the Samsung vs Asus? Its really easy. Play the same game..gee Asus is not darker then Samsung and.. whats this.. Ghosting ..both have it IF using nvdrivers. Sorry but samsung uses ACTIVE 3d glasses even

So lets cut the crap. Asus, Acer, Samsung 27" monitors are TN and cost $600+ and not worth it. After reading most if not all the reviews and trying them over and over then reading how Samsung never replayed to the ones having problems something Asus did and will cross ship and pay shipping. Lol call Samsung see what they offer. Just saying S27A950D is a very nice monitor just not good for 3D games. And I have 4 monitors in my house and not one suffers from blacklight bleeding. The truth is most TN will always suffer from light bleeding.

Just returned a AOC (tested) passive 23" And for a TN it had no blacklight bleeding at all. I was shocked. Dont just take what ever you get. Its your money and for $600 a monitor that comes with BATTERY glasses and has black light bleeding and then you call them they say.. "SHIP IT TO US and will with see if we cant fix it, if not we give you money back. Can you ship me a new one? NO". You can get a 32" or bigger TV for less then $700(550) and can watch it at any angle and passive 3D.

I undertsand that most TN panels look alike, but if you don't have this monitor don't assume things about it like saying BS such as the S27A950D is no good for 3D gaming. Enlighten me and tell me what advantages the Asus monitor have over the S27A950D? Please, do not stick with 3D Vision Ready thing, cause I am using this monitor with 3D Vision support and using the latest drivers, I don't give a rat ass about Tridef. Just not going to mention here how I am using 3D Vision with this monitor, cause here is the Nvidia forum, and the S27A950D is a competitor product. So, I guess you don't know much about what can be done with this amazing monitor.

My S27A950D model didn't come with cheap battery glasses, it came with the better glasses SSG-M3150, that are very good actually, but are non rechargeable. Anyway, I also bought the rechargeable RF Samsung glasses, SSG-M3750, and they're very good, there's nothing cheap about its quality and it's buit tough. It's the most confortable/lighter 3D glasses I've ever tried.
I heard that some models of this Samsung monitor came with the cheaper glasses SSG-M3050, but I was lucky enough not to get the cheaper glasses hopefully.

I am using the very best glasses that Samsung have SSG-M3750 which are rechargeable and way lighter and better than Nvidia glasses. I get very bright 3D picture compared to my old Alienware AW2310 + 3D Vision glasses. I haven't tried 3D Vision 2 glasses combined with a lightboost monitor yet, but I can say that the S27A950 with Samsung RF glasses have better 3D quality and less ghosting compared to old 3DV Ready monitors with 3D Vision glasses, at least comparing to my Alienware AW2310, Acer or Samsung 2233rz. Also the Samsung RF glasses never flicker, since it's bluetooth and has a rock solid link compared to IR glasses.

I've never said I prefer Tridef, I think it sucks. I am still using and will continue to use 3D Vision as it's the best 3D gaming solution in the market.

I am using the latest Nvidia drivers 296.10 with my S27A950D and using 3D Vision. I am not stuck with older drivers like you thought. There are always ways to overcome these compability/license issues. Keep in mind that the S27A950D hardware is capable of true 120hz and supports frame sequential mode, that's all it needs to work with 3D Vision.

You don't have this monitor, so you don't know much about it and you thought It cannot be used with newer Nvidia drivers, well you're wrong there...
There's some lightbleeding in the lower right side of the monitor just like you've mentioned, only there, but I can only see that when I turn my PC on and there's a black screen. I don't deal with this issue when playing games or looking at my Desktop, it's not noticeable.

I don't think the Asus is a bad monitor at all, I'm sure it's a great one and probally the best 3DV Ready monitor out there. The deal is Asus has chosen the wrong path by adding an ugly matte screen with heavy anti glare coating instead of a beautiful clear screen like the S27A950D. That's the big difference between these 2 monitors in my opinion, plus that Samsung uses Radio frequency glasses instead of old infrared ones like 3D Vision glasses, and that's a benefit in favor of the S27A950D as I've had enough experince using bluetooth glasses,so I can say it really adds a lot to the 3D active experience, no flickering ever and I am serious about that, it's a rock solid link.

Many people like matte screens, but I am not one of them, so I think the S27A950D is a superior monitor compared to the Asus mainly because of this, that's just my opinion though. Matte screens have an ugly sparkling effect on colours and blacks have a grey look I think. The S27A950D black levels are as deep as it gets and the image quality and colours are really great, it's 100% photo accurancy, the best I've seen from a TN monitor. I also think that Samsung is a better company in making LED panels than Asus, don't you??? Samsung is the world leader in manufacturing LED TVs in the world. I guess they have more experience in this field than Asus does.

Apple never uses matte screens in their panels, why is that??? Because Apple knows that a clear screen gives the best image quality experience, period. We all know Apple make the most desired computer/consumer products in the world, and I'm sure the glass finish really adds a lot to that.

I really hope that Nvidia partners decided to make some clear screens instead of matte screens for the upcoming 3D Vision Ready monitors, or at least give us both options. If the Asus had a clear screen I would have bought it just because it's 3DV Ready and I wound't have to worry about workarounds to make my S27A950D work with 3D Vision. But I am happy with my S27A950D since I was able to make it perfectly capable of running 3D Vision games.

My anglish is not to good /angel.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='O:)' /> But i try.

Ok if the monitor stay in 3D all the time,(when you open the monitor menu and you have 3D mod in red).

It can be easy fix!

Open nvidia control panel.

On 3D sterosopic setting tab,( me is in french)

Just above the "test 3D sterosopic", you have 3 choice,always... select the second one!

Now in game if you have check the "hide 3d sterosopic at game start",just hit control-T. to switch 3D on off.

Hope is help!

Ctrl + T took away the 3D effect for me. Try that before uninstalling anything.
