Potential amazing game in 3D... Thunder Wolves
I just bought Thunder Wolves, a helicopter shooter. This game has amazing potential in 3D but the shadows are terrible. I played with the depth and convergence and because its a top down shooter it would be perfect in 3d. Pump up the convergence and the helicopter looks like its hovering right in front of you. Would be sick if the 3d is fixed. Reminds me of Gatling Gears, one of my fav 3d games. Anyone know of a similar helicopter shooter that works well in 3D? Would this be Helix fixable?

First is LOL and kinda rude bud. There is no option to disable shadows in the game. Just low, med and high. I'm sure you can Geek this shadow thing out in no time there Spot.

You've misunderstood. I will try and fix it with Helix mod, I wasn't being rude. I'm saying I'm not an expert, but I'll try and fix it.

3D-Vision Blog had a suggestion a long time ago for games with this type of trouble. If the shadows are at screen depth, about all you can do is to turn the depth to zero, and crank up the convergence to where the character/helicopter is at screen depth, so the shadows align. If you do that, you still get 3D, just not as good as usual. Might be playable though.

Tried to fix it for you, but there's much more wrong than just shadows. If I disable shadows, the whole screen goes dark when you point the camera towards the ground. Water is also broken, as is the 2d crosshair. The crosshair can't be disabled in the ingame settings, and it uses the same shader as the rest of the hud - so you can't tell where your objectives are, or use any menus. There's also some kind of heat haze shader that causes doubling-up of the chopper, but that's easy to disable. But essentially, no way to get rid of the giant crosshair means this game is probably impossible to fix. Shame - doesn't seem like a great game to me, but it toyifies really well.

With newer versions of the Helix dll, but not the newest, you can fix things like the crosshair without affecting the HUD. You have to use the Textures. Textures are associated with shaders, and you can filter based on the texture. That way you can disable or move just the crosshair, without affecting the HUD. You use F12 to dump a list of active textures to the Textures.log, which gives you the magic numbers to put into the DX9Settings.ini. You can see an example of this mostly documented and working in Psychonauts fix. Just one step harder than what you've already done. :->

Ah, handy. Could I make it stereoscopic based on the depth buffer, or only set it at a fixed distance/disable it? It would still need the shadows and (preferably) water fixed, as disabling the shadows in particular causes too many other issues.

Hey, thanks for trying. 3D gaming is so addictive and unfortunately not many developers cater to 3D so you are always on the lookout for something that may turn out nice in 3d. Anyone know of a good chopper game top down taht works well with 3d vision?
