I have owned 24 inch Viewsonic, and 24 and 27 inches Acer 3D Ready monitors. I also owned a 3D projector but was disapointed with the low resolution of a single one. However, my current monitor is by far the best one in every sense from what I've tried. I am EXTREMELLY happy with it for its performance and aesthetics (look in my signature). I can only assume the newer curved version from Asus is even better, and I would buy it in a heartbeat if it offered an upgrade in screen size as well as the curvature. However, also having owned a 30" Dell IPS that does not support 3D, I can tell you nothing beats that additional VERTICAL height. I think the ultimate sweet spot for a 3D Vision monitor is 30-32 inches, and I can't wait for a 3D Vision compatible screen to hit the market. Everything so far is FREESYNCH only.

Asus PG278QR (also PG278Q but it have only 1 displayport, and the QR have the displayport and 1 HDMI) The QR is slightly above in the price limit you asked, but maybe you find it in sale somewhere. If you're sure you never will use a HDMI or console added to the pc via DP you can choose the Q version for less price. You should note is VERY difficult to transform HDMI to displayport. I buyed a 30$ adapter but my xbox one does not recognize screen as a 1080P, only option is 360p (only a square on the middle of screen) wich is unacceptable. There are other adaptors (and even more expensive), but you have no guarantees to work with your hdmi device. So my advice is to pay 100$ more for the QR version just in case, you save on problems and adaptors.

OK thank you all. I can see 3 votes for the Asus PG278QR (or PG278Q, i only need 1 DP ^^) I will see if the new ACER i ll recieve today will also have the burn in screen problem. If yes, ill see to get the PG278Q/R.

Another vote for PG278QR, and IMPORTANT - it has to be the new R version. Low ghosting, good dark level and an overall amazing picture quality !!

I vote against the Dell S2716DG. The Asus PG278QR is better at everything. Brighter in 3D, a lot less crosstalk, less severe vertical scanlines, three gamma settings, less color banding. That said, you'll see image retention in both of them. But I don't know if it's the same as your Acer. If you spend a few seconds with a contrasty HUD and then the HUD disappears, there is retention for maybe three seconds.

Thanks masterotaku. Both those monitors are on a pretty good deal at the moment, the Dell is ~£420 and the Asus is about ~£520, probably due to the upcoming black friday. I'm tempted by the Asus but I'm currently running 3d vision surround and I really like having 3 screens :-( I've even thought of replacing my 3 screens with a 55" TV but I think I sit far too close and would get neck ache moving my head around to see all the HUD elements on a lot of games.

I didn't know if I should reply or not because I've already posted about this in some other threads (here and here) but I have no idea if you've read me... For years I was using a BenQ XL2420TX and like you I was looking for a WQHD monitor to go along my new 8700K computer. At this time last year I bought the ASUS PG278QR and didn't like it when compared to the BenQ so I returned it for a replacement and same conclusion. 12 months later here I am trying the ASUS PG27VQ and same story, it behave the same as the QR. ASUS have a stange way of dealing with 3D. DOn't get me wrong, in 2D it's perfect but when it goes in 3D there are thin vertical lines you can see almost everywhere (some call this vertical scanlines produced by pixel inversion) and this is pretty annoying to me but again I'm a kind of perfectionnist. The crosstalk is also worst than the BenQ. I'm pretty sure if this was the very first time I was looking at a 3D monitor then it would not bother me that much but because I've many 3D gaming years with the BenQ the disappointment is present and what suck is there's nothing I can do, I mean there's no alternative to my knownledge at this time.
