Problem: ASUS G51J and ASUS VG278H with 3D vision Cann't get it to work !!
Hi, I have ASUS G51J laptop with 3d compatible graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 360M) (the laptop doesn't have a 3D display). Yesterday I bought ASUS VG278H monitor which has 3D vision ready IR emitter and 3d glasses. Faced several issues which I am desperate to solve:
(1) The software that came with the monitor won't install saying 296.somthing won't install because no compatible graphics card was found. Then I went to NVIDIA website and downloaded and installed the latest (290.somthing) software which is made for my graphics card which installed 3d vision (I guess). I hope that solved it !!
(2) Then I tried to set up the stereoscopic 3d but my glasses wont turn on. First I thought its about the charge. Then I charged it for around 12 hours and the charge light was green. But when I removed the usb charger the green light went off and didn't matter how much I pushed the start button, no light was visible (to check the battery life), it was just empty indicating no battery life. Is it the faulty glasses or I am missing something? How would I know whether the glasses really turned on or not?
(3) I have been given DVI cable with the monitor but I don't have any DVI port in the laptop. Currently I am running the monitor with VGA cable. I have HDMI cable and ports in both laptop and monitor. Is it okay to use vga or hdmi cable to get the 3d vision work or I have to buy a hdmi to dvi converter to use it with my laptop?

Your best bet is to try to get 3DTV Play over HDMI, but I'm not sure if the Asus monitor supports that without purchasing the software additionally. You can try the trial first. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-14day-trial.html
Long-term you will want to either buy a desktop with Dual-link DVI if you want to use that monitor, or return that monitor and buy a 3DTV and use 3DTV Play over HDMI.
