3D Vision Projector Veteran Gamer needs help picking a new Display! Please assist guys!?!?
  1 / 3
Fellow 3D Vision users - I have been a 3D vision Hardcore Gamer for 4 years or so now and seek your assistance. Im not the most computer savy user, but I get by pretty well and know enough to make it work and enjoy my system. I have a decently powerful i7 Processor, Nvidia high end Graphics card (680), and a nice theater room that has been using a Viewsonice PJD6531 W Projector to play many games....ranging from Skyrim, to RE 5, WOW, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, and many more. Long story short, with the release of X Box ONE and PS4 later this year COMBINED with what seems to be an increasingly reduced support of games to support 3d Vision (thanks Helix for great support!), ....aaaaaaand the fact that my projector has 3 pixels out AND even thought it is under warranty and I can get another for free ... it has been discontinued by Viewsonic - I AM COMPLETELY RETHINKING MY PROJECTOR APPROACH AND NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE. I believe I am correct when I say that 3d projectors still "max out" at 1280 x 720 LOW resolution right?!?! Do I have to decide between an "OKAY" projector that supports 3d vision but has much lower resolution for upcoming xBox ONE games when in NON 3d - or can I pick a 3D Vision projector that will still look just as good when in NON 3d MODE?? I like to spend around $700-$1000 for my projector but can spend more if it makes sense. Basically, do I have to choose between a 3D projector that has the "darker, washed out less bright look but works well in 3D" OORRR a SUPER BRIGHT kick butt but non 3d projector?? Is there a best of both worlds projector?? Should I just drive to Viewsonic which is close to my house in Newport Beach CA and take advantage of my warranty and get a new but discontinued PJD6531-W? Or sell the new warranty exchange one Ill receive on ebay and put it towards a new X Y or Z Projector?? Thanks for any help here team! In a nutshell . . . what do you guys recommend I do?!??!

1080P projectors are dirt cheap. If its been discontinued but still under warranty they need to give you something of greater/equal value or refund you. Get yourself something, call them up. Theres no way they can get away with not sending you something unless out of business. They'd have to have a clause written somewhere you can read it if they are trying to not give you anything. If you got warranty from store though you need to go to store. talk to viewsonic and see what they can do as far as a 2d/ 3d projector. optoma hd66 - $500 1080p projector. Thats very good maybe like 6 months ago it was $850. Price came down kind of recently and price is a steal. Though in all honesty. You stand a 2D 720P projector next to a 1080p 2d projector you will see a difference but its not as amazing as people make out unless your sitting at a real close distance to a very big image [Field of vision] Optoma hd 66/ Acerh5360 is what I recommend to any projector user who has room for two projectors. $1000 but you get two lamps and I guess you kind of extend the life of both by using both. If I was in your boat that's what I'd get. It might be high end as far as cost but your not going to find any 1080p projector that has a noticeable difference that doesnt have a much higher price tag. Not to mention you still got 3D gaming for games that support it. My 2 cents. Though Im kind of surprised if you been a projector user so long that you think there are less games now then there was a 2 years ago *shrug*.

1 - I don't see the acerh5360 on acer's website. It only shows 3 projectors. 2 - Does my PJD6531w Viewsonic support 1080p when not using 3d?

@tehace No. Its a 720p 2D/3D projector. 1080P IS SCALED. Like it probably looks worse in 1080p then in 720p. Got to do the research, I cant tell you what projector is best for you. I was giving an example. Can always get a 1080p 3D projector [as long as its listed as supported by 3d tv play] and you got something for 2D/3D.

@eqzitara oh so its just for it to support it :) doesn't really count for PC where you can set the resolution but if there is a 1080p console game it will run on it. I haven't really used 1080p at all since I'm using my projector to do 3d 95% of the time.

@tehace Same. I actually bought a 1080p projector made some comparisons and 2D quality wasn't that much better[maybe like 10-15%]. I returned it because I figured if I needed one in future it will drop in price, which it did. But I still dont need yet. I actually use my projector for everything [On it right now]. Id rather have a 80" image at 720p then a 27" at 1080p[my dust collector monitor] but thats my preference.

OK guys, this is starting to make sense to me - thanks for the feedback so far. So, since my projector is 720p Viewsonic PJD6531w, what do you guys think would be the best projector out right now that isn't too expensive that can run NVIDEA 3D and will look bright and nice for 2d games as well?? Should I get the one you guys are saying that has a 1080 p "mode" when it isnt in 3D move? Sorry, just not sure what to do and don't quite understand all the technology etc so it saves a ton of time to trust fellow 3D vision gamers with their projector recommendations. Thanks again!

My first priority would be a model from a manufacturer that provided service in the country that I reside in. So if there is ever a need for warranty repair, it's not a huge hassle. If I were you, I'd get a HDMI 1.4 compliant projector. That way you can accept different format inputs and be able to use multiple platforms for the supplied source.

I've got the benq w1070 and couldn't be happier, it's 1080p native projector, compatible with 3d vision at 720p60hz and 1080p24hz with 3dtv play, and it works great for 1080p movies both in 2d and 3d. Since xbone and ps4 will output mostly at 1080p60hz in 2d, it should work great since it's native at that resolution, and if any console works in 3d it's hdmi compatible so it should work fine, since currently all ps3 3d games work just fine.
