Now when I start Chrome, 3D kicks in.
  2 / 2
This is a bit funnier than I thought. With the latest drivers 332.21, I can delete the Chrome profile, and it works to avoid the auto-stereo for the browser. However, it seems to also automatically create a new default profile for Chrome at each launch. So the fix seems temporary. Now to add another level of weirdness- if I disable SLI, then I don't get auto-stereo.

OK, this was really starting to bug me, so I think I have two solid answers now. First off, you can use NVidia Inspector, but I was wrong about just deleting the profile. It gets rebuilt/restored somehow. 1) Use NVidia Inspector, and create a new default profile. I named mine chromy to not conflict with anything else. Go to Chrome profile, and delete chrome from it. Go back to chromy, and add the Chrome.exe to it. This worked even after a reboot, and still worked to turn on 3D when I went to 3D Vision Live or HelixMod. 2) Or Go to Chrome advanced settings, and disable "Use hardware acceleration when available". This uses the GPU and is a recent change. When I disabled this, it also stopped the auto-3D.

FWIW, there is a bug logged against chromium for this, however the google engineers think the issue is resolved by just disabling stereoscopic 3D in the nvidia control panel, which of course is unacceptable for people that use it on a regular basis: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=319115 Not quite sure how/why they resolved this, and why this changed recently. I think they check the nvidia driver version number, and have certain version in a blacklist, which disabled hardware acceleration. It feels like it is impossible to have chrome run with GPU hardware acceleration enabled, and 3D stereo enabled as well.

Nice info there. That clears up that it was Chrome that caused this problem, and it is in fact the hardware acceleration. You can fix the problem then by using my #1 above. Make a default, empty, profile with NVidia Inspector. Assign Chrome to it. This has been working for several days for me. I also checked about:gpu in Chrome, and everything is still enabled.
