Optoma Hd67 will be nvidia compatible No support for existing models
Hi all,

I came to know about this projector (HD67) from other threads:

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtop...447&hl=HD67

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtop...691&hl=HD67

Well it looks like that this new model will be compatible with nvidia. It is supposed to be released/announced in march 2010. The following link confirms about the Nvidia compatibility:

http://www.projectors.co.uk/pcp/3D_Projectors.html

From the description on the above link it is also a 720p model. We don't know the pricing yet as indicated on the following link:

http://www.kenthomecinema.co.uk/THEMESCENE-HD67.htm

Well thats strange and unfair to existing customers who just bought Optoma Hd66 and other models which they announced as 3D ready. They could have released a firmware update or the Nvidia could have released an updated drivers to support them. It looks like that these companies are getting greedy. Optoma hd 66 works with Cd v1.15 and it proves that it has everything to work with nvidia drivers. So i don't think there is need for a new model altogether to get nvidia support. They could have got existing models certified by nvidia. And I bet that Hd 67 will be expensive then Hd 66 just because they paid nvidia for the certification.

Its the customers who always suffer and companies like these make money.

That really sux alot of ass.

So instead of making the pro350w and hd66 which I just purchased online sine U.S. people can't get the supported Acer projector, They create a brand new one thats Nvidia approved and the current models gets no updated driver compatibility support at all?

Way to go both Optoma and Nvidia............

WTF?!

What makes even less sense is that they are also supposed to be coming out with the Optoma gt720 that is supposedly a 3d projector made specifically for consoles (ie: ps3)

http://www.optomausa.com/PressRelease_Detail.asp?Press_id=98

“3D brings a whole new dimension to the gaming experience,” said Jon Grodem, Optoma’s director of product and marketing. “Designed for flawless performance with today’s top HD consoles and Gaming PCs, the GT360 and GT720 energize games with stunning speed, high contrast and vivid colors.”

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2357743,00.asp

So are these going to be only compatible with console 3d gaming and then the Optoma hd67 is compatible with 3d Vision?? Very confusing. The article says that the Optoma gt720 should work with PCs, but it doesn't mention NVIDIA. That would seem crazy to make two different projectors instead of one that can do both.

What I dont get is why both nvidia and Optoma or either company make an effort for current released models to support these new features for users like myself who spent a nice piece of change to own such a projector and the kit just to find out that the existing units may not get the support needed or driver update needed.....

That is really unfair to us.
Not to mention I just got my tracking number about 1hr ago and my Optoma hd66 will be here within the next 6 hrs after this post.

I was excited about getting it until I came across this thread.

Again,

Way to go Optoma and Nvidia, crushing my spirits.........

I think this is all a matter of misinterpretation (though I may be wrong :P ), but from what I gleamed from the linked articles it seems that the HD67 is the only one going to have the official Nvidia logo slapped on the packaging because it'll support 3d vision right from the start. Whereas the the other projectors that have been out for a while wont be officially supported until the update comes which I think that andrewf guy confirmed they were working on a fix.
Long story short: I think the site that says 3d-vision is only supported with the HD67 is partially correct in that as of the time of writing their article no other projector supported it.
Keep the faith!

I hate to say it but this is EXACTLY why I did not order the HD66. Also, Optoma promised a firmware upgrade for the HD65 to make it 3D-compatible some time ago, but it never came, making me weary of how they support their products. Instead they released a whole new projector that is nearly identical with slightly better specs and 3D "support", what we know as the HD66 (meaning they could have talked with nVidia and decided to just support the next model instead). The HD66 may eventually be supported (I just don't know), but it was never confirmed which kept me away from it especially considering generic DLP support is not guaranteed to work w/ 3D Vision (yes I know it is listed in requirements but Andrew has stated that they do not have the means to test with all displays). Anyways, SyN you can always return it.

No I will keep it regardless. At least its not a total loss, I can use the older drivers to take advantage of the 3d feature along with the kit. I seen a few workarounds and plus I knew what I was getting into when I purchased this.

Like I said before, My old Projector died on my about a few weeks back and shoping for a new one, I find this forum and you guys so I hung around, Collecting info and finally I was able to purchase both the kit and projector and on top of that, Its a hdmi projector with true hd native res. Not scaled unless I go 1080p.

Anyway For the most part I'll have my projector back, just hate that there may be a possibility for no future support, and then again both optoma and nvidia may surprise us. So yeah like one user said earlier, Keep the faith, I will stay positive about the whole thing but it was very disappointing reading the start of this thread which made me react the way I did.

Anyway 2 more hrs before My HD66 arrives to my home. "I love Fed Ex's Detail Tracking"
I am just happy that I am getting a better projector.
Worst thing is that I may have to look into another S3D source....

Yeah, it's a great 2D projector from what I hear anyways. Report how you like it when you get it!

Worst-case you can hook up the HD66 using a VGA cable with the EDID pins removed and use a custom driver. If you do this it will successfully complete the setup wizard as generic CRT in the newest drivers. Obviously not ideal, but at least it's an option.

The reason it fails the setup wizard by default is it thinks the native resolution is 1280x800 and force-runs at that which can't do 120hz. Not sure of another way to fix that or why nvidia doesn't just let you pick the resolution.

no reason for panic. The HD67 should be the European version of the HD66, so both will support 3d Vision. In Europe only the equivalent of the Pro350w (EW531/6) is released right now. The HD67 should arrive in about 2 weeks.

It is strange that the EW53x will not get 3d Vision, as they are quite similar and somebody wrote that his HD66 was displayed as EW536 in Windows.

Even in broad daylight with my curtains and blinds open, I still get a very good picture. This projector is freakin nice! (Lol Word Filters) Excuse my french but compared to my last one, this right here is a keeper!

I will get to the 3d testing later but for the mean time,

There is some minor RBE going on but its nothing that will bother me, its very minor.
Other than that, I am just happy gaming and watching movies on my wall.

I will get back to you all after messing with this some more.
Not to mention I got some rearranging to do and some packaging to clean up, I got a brand new laptop today as well and I need to run and get 2 more hdmi cords.

Here again is the rub with Nvidia's current plan to support only specific models of projectors and not giving the end user the ability to select and tweak features to enhance supportability themselves. I purchased my Optoma Pro350W in the US but it is recognized as the EW536. Go figure... Sooo, no support? Andrew, can you confirm? I understand wanting to create a projector package that has the 3DVision logo in bold green letters but not at the expense of those that have made investment in 3DReady technology and supported your products along the way. We all know this is a business issue and not a technical limitation of the technology.
