Mass Effect 2 3DVision LensFlare issue. This should be fixed !
I got Mass Effect 2 last tuesday and found that in general, this game looks awesome in S3D with 3dVision.
A few problems tho:
1) Had to rename MassEffect2.exe into MassEffect.exe in order for the driver to use the nvidia crosshair (this will probably be included shortly in the new driver)
2) Use a custom ini file that help remove the original (2D crosshair). This post describes where to get it.
I was able to get ALL graphics to the max and was happily surprised (almost everything) worked.
I have 2 issues:
- It is WAY too dark, even with the brightness at max. Since the glasses cuts it by half, there should be a way to remediate that from the game ini file.
- The next one is REALLY annoying and that is the LensFlare creates major visual artifacts for any light. This includes wrong depth rendering of the small light flares and in some cases, whole flare lines crossing the screen from left to right (major leakage of the lighting flare effects). Boosting convergence until these rectangles go out of the screen might be working for the small lights, but increase the flares lines for bigger ones.
The way to remove these artifacts was to add into the game ini file a line:
LensFlare=False
MAJOR problem tho: many objects interaction are made using what appear to be an object flare (huh???). I am referring to the transparent light blue rectangles over the items to interact with)... The issue is that turning off LensFlare seems to remove the object interact COMPLETELY... What ??? Let me say that again, if you turn off LensFlare, everything looks gorgious, but you won't be able to interact with many objects, like screen terminal (vendors), or complete some quests (like putting "the cure" into the ventilation.
How can that be ? I tested it over and over and I can confirm this...
I can understand why LensFlare can cause S3d problem but how in hell can this prevent object interaction...

Hi, i ve got EXACTLY the same problem. It is really sad cause this works perfect in 3d vision, with the LensFlares=False cmnd, especialy after the cntrl+F6 convergence which pops-out the entire game out of the screen!. I hope they fix this, it s ridiculus, U can only interact with some objects and peeps(e.g U can speak to Kelly inside the Normandy but u cant interact with the Galaxy Map!).
For ur low brightness issue u can try this cmnd in the ini file- DepthOfField=FALSE

I am glad I wasn't dreaming. What they've apparently done is use a lighting effect (a flare) instead of using a real transparent 3d object with lights... This is stupid and I hope there is a way for them to remediate this...
I think that may also be related to AA which is not configurable from the settings. Still researching the ini settings to find a way. I wouldn't care disabling AA if that allowed me to play with it.

Getting game tomorrow - So changing a graphical preference - changes/disables the interaction with certain objects - Fully believe, but find incredable that that's the case

Hehe no u aint dreaming, i spent over of 6 hours yesterday and i got really disapointed when i couldnt interact. I hope that something else is wrong and not the lensflare, because lens flare usually comes from lights, or the sun etc. I cant really believe that the blue and orange transient marks are cause by this effect, but when LensFlares is disabled, u cant interact and thats a fact. Lets hope that it is a bug or something, i will look more tonight on it,
Cheers :)

I have been looking around and same issue here. On top of that I noticed that these flares in front of objects are at the wrong depth; they should be sticking to them and they are not.
The most I move around, I also start noticing ghosting. There is also the issue of strange shadows on characters, I guess disabling shadows entirely is gonna be the solution there.
back later.
Hey you should check mtbs3d.com, if you haven't already...
