Setting up a 3D TV for movies and gaming as a third monitor
Hey guys, So I am currently pulling my hair out over this matter. But first, my setup: i7-6700 with gtx1080, a Dell S2716DG, some FullHD Medion monitor and a panasonic TV. The dell is my first screen, the Medion the second and the TV the third, but 2 and 3 is duplicated image (mirrored, not sure which is the right english term, they show the same image for watching movies and stuff) One is always running, obviously. Two I switch on when needed and the third, the TV, I turn on to play some games or watch a movie. I want to set this up to watch 3D bluRays on my TV from my PC. I have a capable bluray drive, and I also installed the correct monitor driver for the TV (which was a bi**h but I got it running.) Nvidia 3D Vision is installed and active (yes, bought) I try to get powerDVD running. What settings do I need to set up to do so? I hope someone knows this, help would be greatly appreaciated. Any guide or even a phonecall via skype or something. I have streaming set up so I can stream my desktop as well. I'm sitting on this for hours now and I run out of thinking juice in brains. Thanks in advance, Tim P.S.: Before I had the Dell and the GTX 1080 I used the two remaining monitors to play games in 3D which worked like a charm. But I changed the motherboard/CPU and after reinstalling windows I need to set it upo again. The Dell monitor got added with the 1080 Edit: The Dell is connected via DP, the Medion is on DVI and the TV is HDMI. Another Edit: The Dell is g-Sync enabled. Perfect setup would be the Dell with gsyncfor pc gaming active and the TV for the 3D stuff.

If I am not mistaken, in order for 3D Vision/3DTV Play to kick in, the monitor/TV that you want to display 3D on needs to be set as your main monitor. Also, I think you will need to run all monitors in extended vs. duplicated mode. For example, I have a pc that has a 3D Vision Monitor, a 3DTV Play projector and a regular dell non 3D monitor attached to a GTX 680. I have all in extended mode. I change between the projector and the 3D vision monitor being my "main monitor" which is a setting in windows. Only issues you may run into with your TV, is that on 3DTV Play TV's/Projectors, the program needs to run in full screen in order for 3D Vision/3DTV Play to kick in. So you will lose the ability to move your mouse around freely for use on the other monitors you have setup. At least that has been my experience. Whereas 3D Vision monitors will still kick in 3D even if you are using windowed mode. Again, this is my personal experience.

As mgriggs22 stated, make sure that they are all set to extended in Windows. Starting with the Maxwell generation of GPUs, 2 monitor surround was once again introduced. So, also check in the Nvidia control panel, that you have nothing checked in the "set up multiple displays" tab Also check out http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/10/game-list-automatically-updated.html if you like to game in 3D. If you do not game in 3D or barely do, I'd recommend getting an AMD Radeon and using Eyefinity. Unlike Nvidia, AMD is more user friendly for multiple monitors in any type of configuration. AMD also works better with multiple monitors using different refresh rates and resolutions. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/gpu50-ati-eyefinity-display-configs.aspx But of course, you have a G-Sync monitor, so this is not an option.

Thanks for the advice, I will try if it works when setting up as the main monitor. Also as extended. However my plan got mixed up by a certain women so I'll have to postpone till after the holidays. Could be worse, though. ;) I played a lot of hours of skyrim in 3D back then and it worked on duplicated, but the resolution was the same, the dell now is 1440p. I just got the 1080 a little over half a year ago and AMD does not deliver anything comparable in power so I'll stick with it. (yes, 2x RX480 in some cases, but not consistenly) Also G-Sync. yes. :) It's pretty much only for 3D movies, and if they come side-by-side or similar it's easy going already. Just from bluray the software does not want to work. So, thanks again for the advice, I'll try these tipps next week and come back to tell what happend.

So took me longer than anticipated to get around to doing this but here I am. Good news, gaming works like a charm. Setting the TV as the fist and main screen fixed it. My movie software still doesn't work but maybe that's the software's fault. It recognizes the TV but still does not work. Meh. SO, thanks again for your help :)
My movie software still doesn't work
W7 or W10? What's the HDCP status in the Nvidia control panel? You stated that you are connected to the 3D HDTV via HDMI, do you have anything in the chain, repeater, splitter, adapter, converter, AVR? You might try setting your desktop to 1080@24, prior to opening whatever player you are using. If it's routed through an AVR, it must support 3D via HDMI 1.4. From your first post, it seems that you are playing Blu-ray discs using PowerDVD, I use PowerDVD 13 Ultra without problems, but I'm on 368.69/W7. You might try the trial from Corel, for WinDVD Pro.
