DELL / Alienware OptX AW 2310 and BluRay 3D (AGAIN) Getting BluRay 3D towrk with 3D vision & Ali
1 / 2
Is there a prblem with Blu Ray 3D that is specific to the Alienware OptX AW2310 monitor?
I originally posted about ths problem with PowerDVD 10 Ultra MKII and ArcSoft Total Media 3 several weeks back. I was having trouble viewing 3D Blu Ray properly with either of these programs, while all other 3D was perfectly viewable (photos, trailers, other 3D videos, nVidia 3D vision demos, etc).
On my older machine, it would not properly display 3D blu ray movies. I'd get a full screen picture, in 3D, flickering with a quarter screen sized copy of the movie, also in 3D in the upper left of the screen. Uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting everything nVidia several times finally seemed to work, and only the Beta CD Version 1.34 would work for blu Ray 3D on my machine.
Well, I built a new machine, using the same video card, monitor, and 3D vision kit. I had the exact same problem again. This time, however, when I first installed Windows 7 64 bit, I turned off automatic updates so the Windows update version of the nVidia drivers would not be installed when I logged on for the first time. It was using plain vanilla VGA drivers.
I then installed the latest BETA drivers - 3D blu ray gave me the same problem. It took about a dozen removals, reinstalls, deletions, cajoling and praying using 3 different versions of the 3D Vision CD setup - finally on installing the BETA 1.34 CD this last time - my 3D Blu Ray worked again.
So I am wondering if this problem is unique to the Alienware monitor, or the GTX480, or maybe the combination of both, or the drivers in connection with the monitor. It is odd that all other 3D worked great, just not watching Blu-Ray 3D in either PDVD or ArcSoft.
My new machine has the following:
Antec 902 Case
i7 960 @ 3.2GHz Quad Core - no overclocking
Windows 7 64 Bit
EVGA X58 SLI3 MoBo
12GB DDR3 Triple Channel @ 1600MHz
240GB SSD System drive SATA II
2 x 2 TB data drives SATA III
PNY Geforce GTX480 1.5GB
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Champion
LG Super Multi 8x BD Rom DVD R/RW CD-R/RW
Plextor 12x BD RE / DVD R/RW CDR/RW
Antec 750W PS
Well, for now I am happy because I finally got to watch Haunted House in 3D BluRay.

chippe01, I'm currently having the same problem as you had with 3D Blurays: "it would not properly display 3D blu ray movies. I'd get a full screen picture, in 3D, flickering with a quarter screen sized copy of the movie, also in 3D in the upper left of the screen."
My setup is
Windows 7 64 Bit
EVGA GeForce GTX 480
Acer GD235HZbid Widescreen 23.6" LCD1920x1080 @ 120Hz
3D Vision kit
Tonight I'll try to uninstall, reinstall, delete everything nVidia, and try Beta CD Version 1.34, and see if I can finally get 3D Blurays to work.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but try this first.
Make sure you delete ALL nVidia video and 3D drivers.
First, install the 3D USB driver by manually locating the folder and running the setup from inside the folder.
Second, run the install setup for the CD package.
Let me know if it works this way.
By the way, there is a new version of the 3D Vision CD setup, Ver 1.37. I downloaded it, but am hestitant to install it since 3D bluray has been working fine for me.

Success with Beta CD Version 1.34 !!
First I uninstalled all nVidia video and 3D drivers, then rebooted,
Then ran the main "install.exe" inside the unpacked Beta CD Version 1.34 folder.
On the menu, first installed video drivers, then reebot, then it automatically continued and installed the 3D driver.
Now for the first time I was able to properly play my 3D Blu-rays.
Finally, some Full HD 3D Blu-ray joy :)
Thanks
I was starting to think the monitor was the problem, or Win 7.
Later tonight, I´ll try the latest GeForce 3D Vision CD v1.37 Full driver CD.
If it doesn´t work, I´ll step down to GeForce 3D Vision CD v1.36 Beta Full driver CD, or the GeForce 3D Vision CD v1.34 Beta Full driver CD.

Just so you know, I installed the CD 1.37 3D vision drivers, and Blu Ray 3D is working fine.
This is what I did.
1) In control panel / Programs and features - I uninstalled all the nVidia drivers.
2) Rebooted the computer
3) Deleted all nVidia folders from C:, C:/program Files, and C:/Porgram Files (x86)
4) Intalled the IR Receiver Driver from the setup package folder STEREO - run the file NvIRUSB.exe
5) Run the cd installer - in the folder with the cd installer drivers, click the 3DVision_AutoRun.exe file. This will start the CD setup.
6) Click install Graphics driver
7) Choose ADVANCED install
8) Choose the CLEAN INSTALL option to delete any remnants of older drivers
9) Make sure all the drivers are selected / checked off
10) Start the install and reboot
11) When you reboot, go into the nVidia Control Panel, set your options, and enable 3D.
12) Run through the 3D setup wizard.
After I perfomed all these steps, I inserted a blu-ray 3D disc, and it played fine. I did not have to fuss with installing / uninstalling / reinstalling - it all worked perferctly the first time.
