Okay I've been playing the game in 3d for a while and have a few observations.
1. Never play on on "Very High" graphics settings as it seems to muck up 3D. Set to "High" or lower.
2. If texture pop/LOD issues are plaguing you, then set to DX9 mode, go into Nvidia Inspector and Allow Negative LOD bias, and set it to Bias to "-3", then manually set anisotropic filtering to 8x+. Makes the game a bit better visually.
3. The only things I've come across so far that dont render correctly are very far off character shadow blobs, but once you move a bit closer the proper shadows pop into existence and are fine. The second thing is the sky but I'm hopeful that'll be modded by a community member :P
4. Battles are great in 3d, spells render correctly and blood spatters too.
5. Have been playing on Max Depth, medium~ convergence since in conversations characters bodies get very close to the camera. Seems to work fine and avoids eye-strain.
Cant really see why its classified as "Not recommended" unless it was only tested on "Very High". What other problems have people found?

Curser at wrong depth?? Shadows??? NPC and items icons rendering at 2d?? The game is not s3d ready, stop pretending it is. origigins never was an s3d title but it was playable at least with high convergence.

Where did I claim it was s3d ready? I merely said it does not deserve a "Not Recommended" rating: Good/Fair would be a more accurate description when using DX9 Medium settings. The on-screen icons for items and NPCs I had forgotten about, but they aren't bothersome once you don't go high-convergence. The cursor is fine too as long as you dont apply a huge amount of convergence too. Had the same issue with neverwinter nights 2 where the cursor was rendered wrong once you went past a certain convergence point. All shadows render properly for me with the exception of distant character shadows. Mountain range shadows, monster shadows, building shadows, they all render properly for me. None of them look out of place.
But from reading your post I can deduce you're a lover of high-convergence, whereas I love high-depth. So I can see where you'd be seriously annoyed at not being able to use those settings.

You are correct! The game looks MUCH better with "Very High" settings turned off. In fact, I see no popping textures in the city (and it looks beautiful). I'm still running DirectX11 to maintain "High" detail settings, but now I can actually keep playing the game! Thanks for this tip!
Btw, I agree - it doesn't deserve a "Not Recommended" rating since you can get it to work better than other games. It should be rated as "Good".

so just setting it to high gets rid of all the texture swapping problems? great news then, now if someone fix the sky it would be awesome

Changing the settings from Very High to High fixes the texture issue as stated. Shadows render correctly for me on DX11 as far as I can tell. I see the occasional weird light clipping issue during conversations but the 3D isn't too bad outside of the sky and 2D cursor/nameplate problems.

game looks pretty good playing at high rather than very high.
but now I cannot play with DX11 mode because it'd crash the game very often. DX9 is smooth sailing.
too bad, since DX11 mode does offer greater texture quality.

Hmm.. I haven't seen a single crash in DX11 mode on "High" settings. Not sure what's going on with your setup. Did you download the latest beta drivers from Nvidia?

Well tried my self the game in 3D and first impression was that the 3D was not really good while playing with a certain deph and the cutscenes were horrible in 3D !
That was with the drivers 266.58, I've installed the beta drivers 267.24 and launched the game again.
The result was fantastic, the 3d was excellent and with the deph at maximum and no more problem with the cutscenes !

Yeah the only things that a major issue in 3D now is the sky and light around candles/torches and other flames. Not only does the flame lighting look off, but it really cuts the FPS down too, especially during some cutscenes. But 90-some percent of the time, the game runs great in 3D, as said, just about exactly like the first game.

Shadows render correctly on "High" settings with DX11. Not sure what you are seeing.

The newer drivers and the settings on "High" or below make the game show 3D like DA:O.
