Looked everywhere, WHERE can I find the Acer HN274H monitor?
1 / 2
Anyone actually KNOW why this is no longer on Newegg? Is it just out of stock or recalled? Can't even find it on acer's site!! I'm in the market for a new 3d monitor and don't want to buy a 24". What should I do? If I HAD to buy a new 3D monitor now what should I get? Also, I looked at other threads but nothing answered this how I wanted.

I remember seeing an article that said the monitor had been recalled due to a bug that caused excessive amounts of ghosting. I'm not sure how valid the claim is, but the item has been deactivated on newegg when it originally had a restock date of 5/31, and it used to be listed on amazon as well but it isn't anymore. So it seems true, but I'm not really sure.
As far as 3D monitors go, I'm in the same boat. The only 3D-capable monitors that are bigger than 24" are the ASUS VG278H and the Samsung S27A950D. Neither of them are out yet though. From what I've seen and read, the Planar SA2311W is supposed to be the best 3D monitor out right now, with the lowest levels of ghosting, but it's 24" big.
edit: I should mention that the Samsung S27A950D won't work with the NVIDIA 3D thing. Samsung is going to use their own 3D tech in lieu of the NVIDIA 3D vision. So if you were looking to go the NVIDIA-3D route, the ASUS VG278H would be your only choice if you absolutely positively wanted a 3D monitor bigger than 24".

There is no basis for the ghosting commment, it's an excellent monitor. I have one and the 3d performance is excellent. Before the item was deactivated on Newegg it was getting glowing user reviews with no mention of any mysterious ghosting bug.

I've been using this monitor for a few weeks now. Ghosting is within acceptable limits. I am not sure what this bug is about, or if it effects all units. Maybe it was just too hot to handle and the production plant over-heated!

I bought mine from computeruniverse.net, a German site that ships to many other countries. (English language available). They currently have it in stock too.
If you live in the states, perhaps buying from a EU store would be a bad deal, but they are out there if you really want it.
Edit: direct link to the monitor:

Hum.. how do you know online shopping isn't "bogus" in general? Use your instincts man.. do a little research.
And.. google a currency converter? It's expensive though, 600 Euros is about 850 US.. way more than the 700 US price tag on this monitor... plus there's the shipping. If you live in North America.. I wouldn't order from there.. unless you don't mind paying 200$+ extra

Right, well, it was just a suggestion in order to be helpful, because you couldn't find the monitor on the big resellers' online stores. I even registered on this forum just to let you know, because I had the exact same pain with finding it.
This monitor was my first buy from them as well, but got delivered within 1 week. But, yes, I can see your side of it. Ultimatly it is up to you.

Apparently some people managed to get their hands on a few of these. Here's one on ebay going for $850, but otherwise you all are quite correct. You can't find this monitor anywhere, and apparently it's extremely abusive: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130525812227&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
I am not so sure about being recalled but I've been using it for 6 weeks now. Ghosting issue is there but I can't really tell whether it's monitor or the game. Some games like lost planet 2 have severe ghosting when I increase depth more than 10% while games like crysis 2 has almost no ghost even at 100% depth. 3D movies are ok, no apparent ghosting and I think what they say is true about warming up monitor to reduce ghosting.. I obviously see less ghosting now on witcher 2 when it was very severe when depth set is over 10%. Maybe it was 1.2 patch that fixed it or maybe it's my monitor finally burnt down enough to perform perfect.. who knows. But I love this acer hn274h monitor. simply the best monitor I've ever bought. If this item really was recalled and they improves it greatly and gives me replacement, that's even better. But for now, I have no real issue. Only thing that really bother me is monitor switches back and forth when I start and exit game(enter and exit 3d monitor).. It's like a sec or two flickering that don't affect the performance but well.. I don't like that part. :)

No recall for this monitor at this time.
No recall for this monitor at this time.

There is no basis for the ghosting commment, it's an excellent monitor. I have one and the 3d performance is excellent. Before the item was deactivated on Newegg it was getting glowing user reviews with no mention of any mysterious ghosting bug.

This monitor was my first buy from them as well, but got delivered within 1 week. But, yes, I can see your side of it. Ultimatly it is up to you.
In europe (at least where I live) we cannot order from the "big sites" because they don't delivere here. New egg, amazon, etc all have regional restrictions. Else I would order everthing from the states, as everything is a *lot* cheaper.
I live in Norway, and was searching all over for a store that would ship it here. This store is, as far as I know, quite big in Germany. But someone from Germany would have to confirm that.
Anyways, good luck on your search.
