New Head Mounted Display capable of 1080p@60hz/eye Only $800! Will this be compatible with
Silicon Micro Display announced this fairly recently:

http://3dvision-blog.com/7494-silicon-micro-displays-st1080-3d-hmd-to-be-available-in-may/

Even more recently, they announced the support of additional 3D formats not mandated by the HDMI spec:

http://www.siliconmicrodisplay.com/1/post/2012/03/additional-3d-format-support-for-st1080.html

Among those format? Surprise! 1080p @ 60hz. nvidia - are there any plans to natively support this via 3D vision? Or will we be locked to the official 3DTV Play 1080/24hz?

I am confused.
I see 1080p/60Hz in 3D (half resolution not full resolution).

1920x1080p @ 30Hz Top-and-Bottom (full resolution)
still hoping for nvidia support for this resolution...

and i am happy if the half resolutions @60Hz SBS and T&B will work too.

shouldn't be that hard for them.

Does anyone know if Nvidia plans on Supporting this device. I know it's not from a big company like Sony or something like that.

Just wondering.

Advances in technology are great but not many will buy it if they can't game at 120Hz

It doesn't even seem to do 120Hz at 720p Full. Or is that per eye?

The biggest breakthrough - when gamers WILL buy it - will be if and when there is 60Hz per eye (120Hz) at 1080p FULL res.

Whenever HDMI will allow that. v1.5 anyone?

In a press release they stated it won't do 1080p60/3D. Missed opportunity IMO because they lack advertising as it is. If they had the new HDMI chips the ST1080 would have probably been reviewed on a hundred different gaming sites eventually. The dollar extra it costs could have been looked at as advertising money.

I don't expect the average LCD monitor 3d gamer to jump on the HMD at this moment. However I am sure many (that is of the users who are into HMD tech) will purchase this device. i have a Sony HMZ-T1 and I am still buying this also.

And on the flip side, I have had the i-glasses SVGA 3D, the eMagin visor, many 3D projectors, and am currently mostly satisfied with my 120Hz 720p 3D Vision projector with 0 ghosting and 300" screen.

It is certainly a good product, there is no denying. But, a lot of us feel the decision would have been clear cut if it was a little bit better.

You and others may buy it, but myself and others like me will not.

For a product designed for 3D, would it really have taken that much effort and investment to gain premium support from the de facto 3D company pushing 3D (nvidia) who has the best software which your users will benefit from the most (3D vision driver). All you would have to do is offer dual dvi/hdmi inputs to support 1080p @ 120Hz page flipping?

What a tremendous loss of potential.

Hopefully they will see their error and release another unit with this feature. A few hundred dollars more, it would be well worth it.

A missed opportunity definitely, and yet I'm sure Silicon Micro don't realize this, as they the HMD as a direct competitor to Sony's, which also uses hdmi 1.4 and is even more limited. Still, Nvidia will enable 1080p@60 frame-packing as soon as the new chips get integrated into newer model TVs and I bet that for Silicon it is cheaper to manufacture with only one input. So probably in the not too distant future buyers will enjoy s-3d gaming in full hd. The question is, whether there won't be better hmds by then, and there probably will be. As a person who has never tried a HMD, I have to say that in the end the main benefit is still present - zero ghosting at an affordable price without the necessity of bulb change every 2000 hours or so, but the disadvantage of solitude is also present.
