Way to dark picture + a white flash! Am I dumb or just too used to 2D?
I got a huge problem. Just as I hit the on-button on the IR-transmitter and goes "3D" the picture becomes very.. VERY dark. Well.. there's just a tremendous difference between the 2D picture and the 3D picture. Everything is clear, vivid and colorful in 2D. The 3D picture however seems to be fuzzy, unsharpened and just plain ol' dark. I'm having a hard time finding my enemies and orient myself. There's no way I'm gonna be able to win prizes in a gamecontest using 3D! And the latter really takes the edge outta the entire experience. Using the googles is cool looking at 3D pictures or showing of to ones friends, I'm still completly amazed over the technology but gaming? Hell it suck big-time playing. But perhaps it's due to bad drivers (oh yeah I'm using 186.18; even tried 186.24 from guru3d.com but they wouldn't install properly) or me not properly setting them up? The only setting I've found and thus also adjusted is that depth-scroll on the backside of the IR-transmitter but not too untipped I seem to actually be getting a better experience the more 2D and the less 3D I go! Now I've read on the forum something about convergence but no thread has yet succeeded explaining that crap to me. Could "convergence" be why my gaming experience suck?

Oh and one more thing, from time to time I get quick white flashes. What about them? I've been playing night-time without any lights on. I've also set the monitor to always go 120 hz in the Nvidia control panel.

Every input is much apprechiated! Feel free to share your thoughts and workarounds.

Another thing I never managed to understand due to uncompleted threads is the "usb driver". Ppl are talking about the old usb drivers beeing better. Hell, I haven't seen an "usb driver" to begin with. What is it, and again.. could THAT be why my visual experience suck? I'm actually more keen on finding out what it is 'cause the only related and installed applications I've seen is the vision drivers, 3d application suite (3d photo viewer) and a customed 3D media player classic. Something I've missed?

EDIT: My rig is a single GTX 295 on an 680i chipset with 8 gb DDR2 memory. CPU: QX6850@3Ghz. Monitor: Samsung 2233RZ. OS: Win x64. I actually bought two 295 cards to begin with but as I found out 3D vision doesn't support Quad-SLI and so I gave one of the cards back to the store.

The glasses do definitely darken the image. It's part of how they work. As the shutters alternately close on each lens, you're seeing alternating near-complete darkness in each eye. Of couse the "shut" period happens so fast you don't see it (it's what creates the depth effect), but it also blocks out about 40% of the light. You can compensate by adjusting the in-game brightness, gamma, & color vividness.

If you're seeing a blurry/fuzzy image you probably need to adjust the convergence (go to nvidia control panel > Setup Stereoscopic 3d > Set Keyboard Shortcuts > Enable Advanced In-Game Settings). The image should be crystal-clear.

As for having a hard time orienting yourself, that will pass. It can be a little disorienting at first, we all went through that period -- your eyes & brain simply aren't used to the type of image they're receiving, but if you give them a chance to get used to it I promise you'll feel just as comfortable playing in stereo as you were in 2d, except better. Before you know it you'll wonder how you ever gamed in 2d to begin with. :D

The "bright flashes" are a known issue a lot of us have. There is currently no guaranteed fix, although some people have reported luck with changing the IR emitter settings or turning off SLI (which won't work for you with a 295). Some of us haven't had any luck whatsoever finding any remedy (myself included). There's a whole long discussion thread about it called "Annoying blinking problem" that will tell you everything we know about it to-date.

All of that said, pretty much everything with 3d Vision really depends on what game you're playing. A lot of games are 100% compatible and work flawlessly in stereo, others not so much. If your game is one that falls into the latter category, play around with the settings (particularly convergence) and you should eventually find a balance that will work.

try 100 hz instead of 120hz, this will brighten it up a bit more and in nvidia controls turn up digital vibrance higher so the colours can get through. This should make it way better!!!

Thankyou Ironman, I'll try that hz-trick later and get back to you. Chris, the same to you. But I was thinking, you just said that turning of sli won't work for me as I have an 295 card, why? Because I don't have sli enabled to begin with? You see that is a little problem I have, I always thought that putting in an 295 card will turn up sli i the nvidia control panel as it has two gpu's but in my case all I have is enabeling "muti-gpu" or not. Is everything ok then or should my panel-option be enabeling sli or not?

About that blinking, I found it really annoying! Can't wait for Nvidia to fix the issue, hopefully they can do it. But perhaps it's a hardware fault?

"multi-gpu" mode with a gtx295 is SLI. The 295 is basically just 2 gtx275 cores (clocked to gtx260 speed) on a single pcb. It's SLI that allows the two cores to work together, just like if they were two separate cards.

Chris, I understand that. However, it doesn't solve my problem at all because as I said I don't even have that option in my nvidia control panel which bugs me 'cause I donno if I should or not [have that option] to begin with.

It shouldn't blink, make sure you have no other lights or devices that could cause the IR transmitter to be blocked, and try moving it closer and looking straight at you.

I never get any "blinking" so it's not normal.

That actually worked somewhat, however, running digital vibrance high is unbarebly at desktop work and I refuse entering my nvidia control panel and manually change settings whenever I wanna launch a quick game. Digital vibrance should + brightness should automaticly go up by nvidias drivers whenever a game launch.

if sli turn off, games perfomance drop dramaticly. dont forget that 3d effect "eat" about 50% of perfomance in games. it is stuppid to buy double card and shut off on of both =P .i got this problem only in 1 game. i just play it withoutta glasses =). as i understand tehre is some kind of synchronize problem of glasses and game. i put about 2 hourse to solve the problem but i was not success. but if you have the same troubles with many games - it is a reason to continue conversation
