I am interested in using nvidia's 3dtv play with an benq w2000/ht3050 (gpu gtx 1060). Many threads I found were kind of old and I'm not sure what is the latest information.
Is there any way I could get the setup the run at 1080p 60hz in 3d (frame packing) via a hack, is the pj even capable of that? The vga has an 2.0b hdmi and the pj has an 2.0a for hdmi 1 (regular cable). I wonder if the increased bandwith would eliminate one barrier. I don't know if the 3dtv play still has the original limitations (720p 60hz/1080p 24hz).
I know the pj supports sbs and tab at 60hz in 3d, but i'm not sure what software I could use (for gaming).

That's an interesting find. According to Benq's product page you are right - it has a HDMI 2.0a port. This should have enough bandwidth. I haven't found any other full hd projector yet having a HDMI 2.0a port (all models I have looked so far did only have HDMI 1.4a).

Have you tried using the projector at 1920x1080@120Hz in 2D? To confirm that it is indeed showing 120 individual frames, you'd need to run the UFO test from Blurbusters.
Is there a Frame Sequential Option in the 3D menu?
If your PJ does not have a 120Hz option at 1080P, open the "Change Resolution" tab of NVCP, then choose "Customize", then choose "Create Custom Resolution", once in this pop up window, change 60Hz to 120Hz, then hit test. This will not hurt anything, if the projector doesn't support it, it will say "out of range" or the screen will be dark, simply hit escape or wait a few seconds for the test to automatically conclude.
If it fails, you can retry it again at 120Hz, but instead change "Automatic" to "CVT Reduced Blank" and try again.
If this fails, try 100Hz, if it works, try going up from there, maybe even just jump straight to 119Hz.

I've looked more carefully at the HDMI specs of other projectors and found another interesting fact:
BenQ W1210ST / HT2150ST has an HDMI 1.4b port (normally all full HD projectors only have 1.4a). The difference between HDMI 1.4a and 1.4b is that 1080p @ 120hz was added for 1.4b. However when looking in the manual of Benq W1210ST no 1080p resolution is listed with 120 hz here. So again: either BenQ forgot to adjust their resolution table in the manual or it is simply not supported.

Another concern is the length of the HDMI cable, especially if using YCbCr444, which eats up a lot of bandwidth. I do not know if that is exclusive to 4K settings or is also available at 1080P. But if it can do it at 4K60 2D over the user's current cable, then it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm still holding out that one of these PJs might do Checkerboard at 4K, like the old Mitsubishi DLPs. Don't knock it, if you never used it, my brother had one and it looked great.
If one was capable of 1080P Frame Sequential and 4K Checkerboard, it would be stupidly awesome to have the choice of using either one.

I'm not sure this matters, the display is set at rgb full 12 bits. I tried selecting rgb limited, ycbcr full/limited (with 8 bits), but I got an message something like [i]resolution not supported[/i].
I thought that since it can do 3d with sbs/tab at 1080p 60hz it should do 120hz in 2d.
There is frame packing option in 3d at 1080p 24hz, but frame sequential only at 720p 60hz (just as the manual).
Cable used is regular hdmi cable, 10m (30ft).

Thx for checking this! Sounds like an artifical firmware limitation.
So I think the same applies for Benq W1210ST and it seems that the only way to have 1080p @ 120hz is buying a 4K projector like Optoma UHD 40 / 50 or Benq W1700 / HT2550.

As Pauldusler stated, it sounds like the installed software is limiting it. Too bad, HDMI 2.0 has the bandwidth for it. I'd suggest posting on AVS forums and trying to get a group of people together to nag BenQ into implementing it.
30 ft is a long way to push that bandwidth without a repeater. Or maybe something like Redmere cables. Any issues with HDMI handshakes or video drop outs?

I own the W2000 and all I can say is that it only supports the standard framepacking modes. That means 1080p@24Hz or 720p@60Hz. It is recognised as a standard 3DTV-Play Device.
FrameSequential is only possible for 720p@60Hz and below.
I think, I have read somewhere that internal signal processing is done the old ways in 60Hz/75Hz and only output is done at 120Hz or 144Hz. That means, it will never support 120Hz inputs and no firmware will change this.
Would be really nice, if I could use this projector in 1080p@60Hz SBS .
I can't understand, why Nvidia did not implement this into the drivers.

HDMI 1.4 would not support 2D 4K content being input at 60Hz, hence the 2.0 support.
Last I talked to BenQ, they said that some of their projectors would accept a 120Hz input but only display 60. They said that you would no longer get an "out of range" or "invalid format" when doing so. He couldn't tell me any specific models. This was about a year or a little longer ago.
So it might be interesting to try it with TriDef, they do not impose the 24Hz limitation.

HDMI 1.4 would not support 2D 4K content being input at 60Hz, hence the 2.0 support.
Last I talked to BenQ, they said that some of their projectors would accept a 120Hz input but only display 60. They said that you would no longer get an "out of range" or "invalid format" when doing so. He couldn't tell me any specific models. This was about a year or a little longer ago.
So it might be interesting to try it with TriDef, they do not impose the 24Hz limitation.
