...except they clearly say in their patent the aim is not stereo but automultiscopic display with more than two views ( so it will be nowhere near 8K at the end )
Actually:

The Ultra-D system does not generate discrete views but generates something similar to a light-field. As the result, it allows the viewer to perceive the scene from different directions within this field. This enables the background of a scene to appear to move with respect to an object in front of it and vice versa. This allows experience of more complete 3D. Also in this respect Ultra-D is very different to 3D display technologies with glasses, which can project only two views of a scene.
IMO
that's a fancy way of saying , "we don't do 0.00x percent crosstalk, and we even decided to push boundaries elsewhere, partly because it's sort of hopeless".
Also gamers like to sit close to the screen(s) , and that's sort of difficult to optimize for without a full blown directional backlight - dynamic sweet spot (expensive as hell tech).
Gamers want both high pixel density/ stereo acuity , and FOV . These are the exact opposite requirements compared to automultiscopic / autostereo displays, because these are either small ,or the pixel density is traded off, then in turn you get Moiré patterns. So , they have this patent about such artifact suppression:
Anti-banding layer for autostereoscopic display
WO 2014033010 A1.
What the shader hacker community thinks about offloading screen-depth HUD elements to external screens?

Initially, they were sold the tale about "Moore's Law" and "mobile" , and with the two combined , pixel density seemed infinitely abundant ,
then reality set in , and now it seems a single 30 dollar mobile display with macro-pixels can't replace 2x 200 dollar worth of microdisplays with micropixels,

you can't buy high-end VR headsets for a song based on fairy tales and canards.

Wow, that sounds awesome. I bet tons of people in the VR community and the 3D community would really appreciate it. Especially in the VR community because they don't have other 3D displays in general. Good luck.

2017 Panasonic EX750 4kTV with 3D support
http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/panasonic-tvs-2017-4k-hdr
Looks like there will be a 4k 3D tv with active shutter glasses. It comes in 50, 58, 65 and 75-inch variants.
Not the end just yet.
This is really good news, but is 3D on TV support 4K or limited to 1080p? If it support 4K active then this will be better than Passive 4K TVs resolution wise, much sharper and much closer viewing distance.

More like limited to 1/2 4k same thing with passive TVs. But, since it's active you should be able to sit a little closer.
With 4k on a pasive screen there will be more ghosting if you sit really close.

Meeting the HDR Demands of Gamers
With HDR gaining traction on 4K games consoles, Panasonic’s fastest-ever 4K HDR Gaming mode critically meets the demands of the most proficient of gaming enthusiasts. Input lag on all 4K LED TVs has been substantially reduced to improve performance when playing 4K HDR games, especially those with fast movement that require quick reaction times.

Here in Finland it's starting be like that Also. Even the rentals don't automaticly get all 3D
Releases and im starting to thing they slowly drop it all together.
Hows Alien covenant there, Any news ? No one seems to know if its going to be presented in 3D or not.
Allthough i don't even go to movies as my setup so much better than best Seat in countrys capital theater as i can't stand
The crappy and choppy non interpolated theater image, its even worse on a super size screen.
