James Cameron's AVATAR - THE GAME (Demo) ...a look on "James Cameron's Avatar - The Game

Okay, wow. I just realized the options for 3D in the menu. Prior I was just hitting the button on the IR thing to force 3D and it ran WAY better than enabling in-game. However, the in-game 3D has great settings and makes some SERIOUS pop-out effect.

what is funny is that it's extreemly playable at 20 fps and less I was surprised.

It seems the ingame settings of 3d and the driver level settings from nvidia are wrestling with each other. Something is definetly wrong here.

Hi The game work great on the Zalman monitor too. The game also seems to apply some special filter to make text perfectly readable even on the interlaced Zalman monitor.
I didn't notice any mention of "nvidia 3D-vision" in the stereoscopy options. Is it added automatically to the menu when the 3D-vision hardware is installed ?

I think this has got to be the case.

My opinion on tha avatar game "AWSOME" after setting the 3d settings in the menu, size of tv, sitting distance, ect the game looked and played amazingly well for being a demo, there is so mush depth its like walking outside n looking as far as you can see its just like that in the game, the popout affect is nice also, you can jump up and down and the leaves and grass come out of the tv, also when you walk by things they also come out of the tv as well. I thought devil may cry 4 was the best game i played in 3d until i played this,i recommend this game to anybody who plays games in 3d.The only problem i saw was a little ghosting around my character and it was only for like 8 to 10 min during the game. I played it with everything on ultra high settings fraps said it was running between 25 to 40 fps in 3d without 3d it jumped up to 74 to 97 fps for such a low framerate in 3d it sure played well ive played other games with the framerate was low and i couldnt even play them cause it was so bad, but this game pulls it off some how.You have to have a good setup if you want to truly experience 3d to the fullest alot of people on here have good computers but the monitor/tvs is where alot of issues seem to be at from what i read (alot of games people have issues with i dont have, played well over 60 games in 3d) if you can afford it the only way to go is DLP by samsung (Friend of mine bought the samsung 3d computer monitor sold it a month later said it didnt compare to his dlp, i tried to tell him). All in all this game kicks @ss with the right setup, you cant go buy with what other people say because everybody setup is diff so everthing looks and plays diff. PEACE

To the OP:

The game is definitely not a rail-shooter. It's a linear shooter.

It's actually extremely populated with lots of crazy plant life, nothing sterile about it especially with the little particles and floating feather plants EVERYWHERE. Perhaps you have some settings turned down. (?)

It is a bit like Lost Planet, definitely agree with that.

The 3D is actually REALLY good... However, I think there is an issue w/ the in-game 3D enabling. I got cleaner/better performing 3D results by just forcing the 3D Vision on, however the in-game settings have some very nice tweaking abilities that make pop-out like I've never seen it before (with the very beginning in the hornet flying ship thingy).

My biggest gripe is the in-game 3D having some serious issue with the 3D Vision drivers like Bobarr mentioned.

Also noticed your screenshots aren't showing a lot of depth, like your depth setting is WAY down. My experience is more like what shotgun10111 said: "there is so mush depth its like walking outside n looking as far as you can see"

I know this is going to sound funny, but are you installing it or just extracting it? The first time I thought I installed it but all I did was extract files everywhere! lol I re-extracted into a new folder and ran the setup from there. I was getting a crash at start up prior as well because I was running the exe just from the extracted files w/out installing first! :P FAIL

Gabe, of the Ubisoft forum, has taken the initiative to inform the development team about the 3D Vision issues. Hopefully they remedy it.

I will put my name on the list of "this game is awsome", for those wondering if it is worth getting. I have not finnished destroying the jungle from start to finnish yet but have loved the parts i have played so far. I can see this game in 3d help blaze the trail for a whole new style of gaming.

Alright,

in order to be able to use 3d vision as we are used to (scroll wheel for depth, strg+f5/f6 for convergence) it's best to not activate 3d in game menu AND not to tell the game you have 3d Vision installed at all (don't choose this option from the listed 3d solutions in the games option menu, I chose checkerboard for example).

This way you can enjoy halfed framerates instead or only a third and you can manually set convergence. Now it feels much better.

Now, a 3d corsshair would be nice, perhaps via renaming of the exe? Worth a try.

I've been testing heaps of games since I got the 3D Vision setup this summer and the Avatar PC demo in 3D is the best I've seen yet (use native settings, choose Nvidia 3D vision from drop down list).
Pop out effects and depth is remarkable! Game feels like a more action heavy Outcast. Clearly Ubisoft took the 3D aspect really seriously beyond mere screen separation, seems like they know all the tricks (and I guess having James Cameron as a resource helps).

Initial demo impressions:

Pros:
+ Best 3D effect I've witnessed, serious pop-out out effects (characters and foliage, vehicles) and deep inwards depth with distances easily readable
+ Game seems fun with a XP system and gear to upgrade. Feels like an action-focused Outcast (superb game from ~1999).
+ Avatar seems like an interesting universe

Cons:
- Engine performance is pretty lacking
- Character animation is average

The game works near perfect for me on my setup. It's the best I've seen and it will be the first PC game that I buy on the first day that it comes out. Completely amazing in 3D, best popout effects I've seen. Just amazing. I was so hooked on that demo. Hated how it ended though!!!! I was ready to destroy all those guys, LOL!
