The day has almost arrived! Huzzah! .......but I have questions :) Which games, broadly spea
I ordered the 3D vision bundle from Newegg earlier today and it will be here by tomorrow. I'm so psyched it's ridiculous! I've been wanting to try stereoscopic gaming for years ever since I first read about eDimensional's glasses. This is the only thing that has been on my mind since I first decided to go through with it two weeks ago. Even last week when I was waiting for the first pieces of the puzzle - the GPU (gtx 280) and PSU - the wait was agonizing. I haven't felt time go this slow since I was much younger or when I had my first job. But tomorrow! Tomorrow!!

However I do have a few questions (I hate to use a list but........eh):

1. What, exactly, decides which games work with 3D Vision? Is it DirectX 8.0/OpenGL 2 and above, or do some of those not work as well? I ask because I play Playstation and N64 emulation and they can use any recent version of DX or OGL (except DX10). Also things like Doom engine ports (specifically Doomsday) and games like Hexen which run on it (it can use DX9 or OGL2).

2. I've read that it screws up crosshairs. When I sampled gameplay videos taken from 3D games like Left 4 Dead and played them using old fashioned crossed-eye viewing (side-by-side vid), it showed the crosshairs as a double-image, which I'm assuming means the actual crosshair is in between them. Is this what 3D Vision does too or does it screw them up differently (I'm unsure if 3D Vision glasses and crossed-eye viewing produces the same result). ALSO do the replacement crosshairs Nvidia provides work with all shooters or do they have to make them for each specific game (meaning many FPS that work in 3D wouldn't have a crosshair fix)?

3. Does it work with games which don't have an executable on your hard drive like QuakeLive? I'd love to play QuakeLive with it.

4. In reading reviews and testimony, everyone talks about how each game has specific settings which you need to alter to make the 3D Vision work better. Does Nvidia's software do this for you in the games they list on their site, or do they have a readme with settings for each game or something?

5. Not really that important, but do you have to charge it for a while before you can use it? I'm guessing yes, but it will probably come in the mail only an hour or so before I have to work tomorrow >_<

Thanks for your time. I'm sorry to be so drawn out with it but I wanted to be thorough in my first post. I can't wait to finally have this up and running and be able to share my experiences with everyone here!

Thanks for the quick response. Glad to hear I'll be able to try it right off the bat, and I'll let you know how the emulation works. Something tells me it might be tricky because of the way you say it's on a per-game exe basis. I dunno if the 3D Vision will "wait" until I get into a game and such. We'll see. I'm good at figuring things out so maybe I'll find a way to make it work if it will take some trying :P

I'm kind of bummed about the crosshairs needing to be per game though....I'm thinking there are going to be quite a few older games where aiming becomes much more difficult because of it but oh well. Still going to be worth it by miles.

hey,
download drivers from Nvidia's website, dont install from CD

i play world of warcraft, totally incredible

left 4 dead just amazing

City of Heroes= NOPE, dont work

Halflife 2 works fantastic

on Nvida's website there is a list so far of at least 350 games currently working with the 3D glasses

I'm not even touching the disk that comes with it, hehe. Years of buying computer parts that require updatable drivers has taught me never to do so :)

Just from reading things here it's amazing how much work and improvement Nvidia has done to the 3D Vision drivers since release.

I forgot to mention the NVIDIA 3d driver can replace the crosshair if you are able to "turn it off" in game.

Hmmm that's good to know. I'm assuming, then, that for games which don't let you remove the crosshair you can still just use Nvidia's crosshair anyway and just remember to use the middle one, yes?

If you are on 64bit Vista you can't actually activate nvidias crosshairs in the control panel. In 64bit Vista you also cannot change the monitor refresh unless you go back into the wizard; even though the control panel shows you the option. The nvidia crosshair issue is know and isolated to 64bti vista and nvidia is aware of the issue. I haven't had anyone on 32bit vista test the monitor refresh issue so it might not be limited to 64bit version.

My suggestion to you would be to tell the wizard you see flickering (when it asks) and then select the option for letting the game set the monitor refresh rate. Besides even going into the control panel to change it is a hastle, especially when trying to set it up for the first time.

Just wanted to stop in quick to say that I got it up and running about an hour ago and it is every bit as amazing as I was expecting it to be and then some. Awesome.

No flickering whatsoever unless I block the view of the IR emitter, and everything installed easily. Vista installed my monitor automatically and I was able to use 120 hz in games right off the bat without doing anything other than plugging the monitor in, which I find nice. I've only tried a few games so far and I have to go to work, but I'm going to be bouncing off the walls all day in anticipation of getting home :)

Just to clarify, you can activate the crosshair in game using ctrl-F12. I'm not sure if the 3D crosshair is available for all games though, but it has been for recent ones I've played like Fallout 3, Mass Effect, and Left 4 Dead.

Perp is right though, the crosshair button in the Nvidia control panel just plain doesn't function in Vista 64, so I know of no way to change the crosshair model from the one Nvidia has pre-selected for the game.

Yes, it does screw up crosshairs. nvidia has a nifty proprietary driver-level crosshair fix option in the control panel, but it does not work AT ALL with 64 bit Vista. This has been a known issue for months, no sign of a fix yet. Tech Support says it is "on their to-be-fixed list" (but this same tech support person thought LOTRO was on the supported games list /whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />)

I haven't got any doom source ports to work in 3d. I can get the lasersight to turn on, but that's it. No separation in jdoom, doomsday, or risen3d.

I haven't gotten any emulation to work in 3d at all, either. Same issues - everything turns on, but no separation. Sorry man.
