Yeah its a bit hit and miss. Sometimes when it says that message, refreshing the browser will sort it out. If you have'nt already, it's worthwhile setting up a 3dvisionlive.com account (under photos). It's easy enough to use and is free. Once set up you will be able to share images at will in the future (well, there is a space quota I suppose, but its fairly decent).

Hit or miss is an understatement. :) I've had them never come out of the 'SCANNING' stage, I've also had them scan completely fine, post ... only to be erroneously flagged as 'infected' at a much later date and be removed ... definitely wonky to say the least. :D
... speaking of 3DVisionLive, they should add 'cross-eyed' 3D support, like YouTube, for the pics ... looks much better than anaglyph ... to me anyway.

Ignoring the lighting issues, the depth you have set the HUD to looks spot on and the 3D looks fab. What a cockpit! Are the screen depths fixable?

When you say screen depths, what are you referring to? I am working on separating the different hud elements if that is what you mean. I have also isolated the shaders that have the SLI lighting issue so I can (for now) disable that without having to reduce shaders to "low" or run in non-SLI :-)

Thanks for these pictures - I can see one very minor issues in the image with the planet in the background, but otherwise no. Are you definitely running shaders in "Medium" or "High", it does not happen with low. I found a random spot somwehere in the universe after I exited from the fast stream thing that has water (which apparently manages to exist in space) and the reflection on it is also screwed up massively, but its the same golden coloured lighting that is wrong elsewhere, and I was able to isolate the problem lighting as "environmental" so hopefully should be able to (a) fix it (b) disable it until an SLI profile comes out. Either way, it meams I dont have to use low shaders or non-SLI, which is a winner and makes me happy :-)

Thanks for the fixes Mike, you are a star!!!
I have switched over to Frame Sequential 1080p on the 65" vs Checkerboard, man its crisp and sexy. without your patch i was getting one eye a bit black, now its awesome.
that bloody mouse cursor will be the end of me though... really hard to click on things like ships etc. im constantly switching between 3D and 2D.
Gameplay
So far i am enjoying the game, its a lot less complex than X3:TC, by a long way. it really is a different game and Bernd did say that all along. its really not fair to compare the too and they should have dropped the X in the name. its sort of TC/AP for console. everything is reduced to the point where its really not the same game. All of the complex fleet commands/patrols, station building, capping, weapons, ships of the previous games have been watered down. i can only assume this will mean i wont play it for as long. TBH if i want ultra complex, i will play TC/AP and probably play the XRM mod.
this is a new style of game, with new challenges and some of the old elements. if you like uber complex, stay away, if you like a challenge and awesome graphics jump on board. though i would hold off buying for a bout 3-4 weeks as they will have fixed most of the core issues by then.
> it looks amazing
> it feels much simpler to play
> way less complex
> all in all i just dont feel like im in control like i did in X:TC, is that a bad thing, the jurys out
im having fun exploring, trying new things, killing stuff, doing missions. not sure how long that will last.

Yes I have shaders on high. I even run full LOD and View distance (lower settings don't make a blind bit of difference to performance for me). I have AAx8 in nvinspector and off in game. Vsync is off in game but enabled as adaptive in nvinspector. The only thing I have truely disabled is SSAO, but I re-enabled it once and it worked too (confusingly enough as it seemed broken at one point). To add to the mystery, I have found that if I do not run Fraps in the background, my lighting is completely broken. But take that with a pinch of salt because I feel stupid even mentioning it :)

I think this is a good summary :-) It is a different game, but one which I quite like so far. X3 got to the point where it was almost impossible for new players to get on board with it, so I can see the motivation for simplification - I am sure complexity could be "added back in" later, either through Egosoft or the modders out there. I am also quite liking the XBOX controller interface, though I would not dare say that on the Egosoft forums, I got my face chewed off at work for suggesting that ;-)

Yeah this game is a bit of mystery right now, but tbh it could all be due to the fact that there is neither a 3d vision profile nor an SLI profile yet - It's actually quite impressive that there aren't many more issues with it really. I'll try the settings you have above (AA set in Nvidia inspector, adaptive vsync etc). In the meantime I'm going to see if my approach to disabling the 'environmental' lighting is going to work as an intermediate fix for me, and I'll make it available on the blog for anyone who has the same issue.

Thanks for offering your impressions betc. This is actually encouraging to me. I've always loved space games, but my tastes are very precise. I haven't truly enjoyed one since Freelancer, and how long has THAT been? I've tried a couple of the X-series, but couldn't get into them because they are too complicated and drawn out. The more they simplify the better, imo.

Ahh that, yeah someone else asked about that and it was one of the first things I looked at. The trouble with this game is that one shader has 10s of textures so it's a laborious process selectively tracking them down. In addition, each of the cockpit monitors requires a *different* correction to make it 'fit' properly, so I need to use a feature of the DLL I've not used before for to separate by texture index, and again that's a laborious process. I will say also that the correction is not perfect with a minor bit of clipping on the edges, so I am not sure if there is an alternative way to correct that (e.g. through render surfaces).
On a more positive note I have completed a fix to remove the yellow environmental lighting that does not render correctly on my SLI setup. No one else has reported that except me, but I will stick it on the blog anyway, someone else may have the issue. It avoids me having to lower shaders to 'low' or worse still avoids having to turn off SLI.

Is there any known technique for fixing mouse cursors? Thats about the only thing effecting playability at this point in 3D. Happy to investigate if someone can give me a pointer (no pun intended)

I think so! (I meant the cockpit monitors, which act as parts of the HUD display. They seemed a little out of sync in that screeny.)
Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
