I'm a new 3D Vision user and I don't understand most of the things that are said in this forum.
I was trying to get Metal Gear Solid V to run in 3D (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/796880/3d-vision/metal-gear-solid-ground-zero/) but I don't know what to do. It was all CM this, and change profile that.
What is Compatibility Mode? How do you use it? When should you use it?
How do you change profiles?
What is the difference between pressig Ctrl+F3 / Ctrl+F4 and Ctrl+F5 / Ctrl+F6?
What is convergence? How are convergence and depth related?
I'd appreciate if someone could answer this.
So far I've been using 3D Vision just for movies because getting games to work with it seems really difficult.
The only game I got to run without problems in 3D was BioHazard 5.
There should be a begginer's guide sticky so new users can learn how to use 3d Vision properly.

Oh boy...no offense to the OP...but man you need to do some reading unfortunately...
Can someone explain to him what is what? ^_^:))

If you set it so it high enough that the two views cross over each other then you get 'popout'.

Compatibility mode is an alternative 3D rendering mode that was offered by Nvidia beginning with driver 344.11.
https://www.3dvisionlive.com/content/driver-brings-new-3d-vision-profiles-more
Compatibility mode currently will only work with dx10/11 games.
Compatibility mode is kind of like the 2D-3D converters that you find on 3D HDTVs. The difference is, that games have more depth information available than videos. So the algorithms have to do less guess work and the end results is somewhat better than you'd find in 2D-3D on the fly conversions of video. But the end result is not near as good as true 3D. Still, it's better than nothing/2D!
Note: Games with 3D Compatibility Mode will launch in this mode by default. To change the render mode back to standard 3D Vision mode, simply press CRTL-ALT-F11 while in-game.
When should you use it?........
The opinion of most people is that you should use it as a last resort.
But, if you are too impatient to wait and see if a community fix for true 3D Vision is plausible when a new game releases, it at least gives you an alternative to play the game right away in 3D.
I'd suggest that you first check this list for a game that you might have, then follow the directions on the game page or in the readme file of the download.
http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/10/game-list-automatically-updated.html
Also check the Two forum stickies for ways to implement CM in games without an official Nvidia profile.

BTW guys... Deniii is right in some way - some kind of guide from someone who know english well would be very nice sticked on the first forum page. He asked basic things, and all of them could be described in on sticked short topic. This can be really helpful

I have thought about doing one many times in the past, complete with screenshots, the biggest issue was always how topics just get buried here. 3D Vision has been around for how long and only recently the forum has had two threads stickied ... both about almost the same exact topic, Fake 3D. If no one else is volunteering, I guess I can take a stab at it when I get a chance.

Seems like a sticky might be possible now. If you make a well written thread, there is a better chance now. Seems like the mods and NVidia are a bit more open minded now. Please do take a stab at it.
Even if they ignore making it a sticky, it would be nice to be able to point someone to a thread.
The other thread that I've thought we could really use stickied is the current status of YouTube 3D.

I guess I'll start with simpler games that have mods like D-Man11 suggested and learn my way to the top from there.
I have 2 more questions:
1) Does Fake3D/CM work in window mode or does it have to be fullscreen?
2) I'm using driver version 340.52 (Windows 8.1 installed it by itself). I've read there's a lot of problems with different versions. Should I update to 344.11 or is it better if I keep what I already have? (I have a GeForce GTX 550Ti)
Also, bo3b, could you please share the link about Youtube status you mentioned?

Deniii, are u planning to play games in 3d or what ? if yes, u'll have to ugprade ur pc, GTX550ti is very weak videocard for modern games, especially using 3d vision

What kind of problems does Windows 8.1 have with 3D?
So far, it's been working fine. I just use it to watch movies but I haven't had any problems yet.
About the other thing, I don't consider my graphic card weak.
It's no match for a newer card, I know, but it works fine with all the recent games I tried.
I tried Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Senjou no Valkyria, Metal Gear Solid V and Alien Isolation and they all run fine here.
And about planning on playing 3D games... I don't know. I've already played most of the games that work in 3D (like BioHazard 5), in 2D and new games just don't work in 3D (like Psycho Break).
Aside from 3D movies, buying all this 3D equipment has been a waste of money to me.
If I had bought it 5 years ago when 3D Vision came out, I think it would have been worth it. Now, unless you want to watch 3D movies, it's not (in my opinion, of course. There are a lot of users here who still love 3D Vision and I respect their opinion)

Do you play that games using Compatibility Mode? It seems yes, because this mode does not strike on peromance - you have almost the same perfomance with or without 3D.
Geometric 3D does 2x impact - reducing FPS twice or something. But it is absolutely another thing visually. Many of us here don't play Compatibility Mode at all, beacause of too weak "3D" effect.
If you played Alien Isolation with no any fixes downloaded from HelixMode website - you played Compatibility Mode and i should admit you see no this beautiful game in 3D =)

Windows 8.1 has been known to cause performance and stability issues with numerous titles. Movies are unaffected.
Your card may run modern games at medium-low settings, but for 3d you must render twice the number of frames, as you have to render a different view for each eye. So more power is required.

No, I haven't played any games in 3D yet.
I tried the first chapter in BioHazard 5 to test if 3D was working but that's it.
I played Alien Isolation and Final Fantasy XIII before I had the 3D monitor + glasses.
Senjou no Valkyria and Metal Gear Solid V don't work in 3D (and D-Man11 suggested me not to try to get MGS V to run in 3D).
I did try the mod for Final Fantasy XIII-2 but it was horrible. I mean, the 3D was working fine and it looked great but I had to keep changing the mod's "modes" to get correct 3D for each situation (7 key for battles, 8 key for close ups, 9 key for cinematics and C key for the time travel screen) and it was very uncomfortable so I ended up playing it in 2D.
Seeing how I will use this probably just to watch movies, I'll stick with Windows 8.1 for now but thanks for letting me know about the problems it has.
Oh, one more question: can you change depth in movies like you can with games?
