Really, I never new SSD's could make that sort of difference. Does it make a difference to how fast the games load, when you first start it from the shortcut.

that depends if you have game installed on ssd or other HDD.
also depends on particular ssd model
i have intels x25 and it rocks \

I'm gonna have to call BS.

I have two X25 running in RAID0, as well as two Raptors in RAID0.

Reading your post made me install it a second time, this time round on the HDDs and the fps performance is exactly the same, down to a digit.

Loading times with some titles is of course a hell a lot faster from the SDDs, but in Metro I get no noticable loading times anyway.

I finallly got a chance to sit down with this game last night and it was amazing. Really good fps. I had a couple of crashes but i did manage to get a session that lasted several hours. Very well done with s3d. I loved going with my flashlight into the tunnels, crawling around and searching every cruk & cranny. Now my system is not very good, infact its pretty old (some parts over 5y) but i managed to chug along @ 24-60 fps for most of the game. The only time i got single digits was a glitch in the game while crouching the game will chop up pretty good- had to alt-tab a few times to settle it down. I played with 1280x800, physics were on, high settings (i know, lol). I played with the nv cp to tweek settings like aa but just got a black screen everytime for my troubles so i only used the game settings. I also used a XBox wireless controler-much better than keyboard and mouse as it is not a mp game. I layed back on my couch with a few pillows under my head, feet up with my 22" sammy about 10 feet away and 5.1 surround sound. I drank half a bottle of wine and enjoyed 2 stinky, fat, friends too, it was just amazing with every light off in the house. The game sounds like stalker (russans are to friendly-makes me thinks they are upto something) but plays and looks more like fallout 3. With all the fuss about high demands and posted stats on people machines who have low fps i can say im very happy with this performance and with the game. We need more games like this if nv wants to get us complainers out of the forums and behind our 3d screens where they are safe from bitching and complaining. the only problem i see here is with this game being so good that Avatar, bf bc2, bs2 plus all my older games i wanted to play will now have to wait till im done Metro 2033.

I did run my fan speed @80% and i oc my amd 4200+ dualcore from 2.2 to 2.618. i used a bfg 250 (underclocked from 750 mhz down to 650-problem card) and it was the first time i saw my gc EVER go above 70%, infact it used 97% once that i saw and stayed in the 80% range for most of the game......funny the movieclips were the most demanding....funny.

I also played @ the hardest game setting-this may prove to be a problem later in the game.
I would also like to use custom convergance but cant seem to find the file with my perticular coppy- might be something to do with the coppy i have.

anyways great game. i had much fun with it last night, been awhile since i played such a good game.

When I get home tonight I will start a new game and check out the opening areas. I haven't run fraps or anything but I have noticed a significant difference in performance between pre-ssd and post-ssd for this game only. I should have said performance in my first post as I don't have fraps running. Before I was running the game off of the ssd enemies would get cloe and the game would slow down. After the SSD I am noticing no slowdown at all.

Optimum System Requirements for Metro 2033 are:

Core i7 CPU
NVIDIA DirectX 11 compliant graphics card (GeForce GTX 480 and 470)
As much RAM as possible (8GB+)
Fast HDD or SSD

My system:

I7 920 (Oc 3.8)
6 gigs of DDR 3 1600
Intel x-25m 80 gig ssd
Gtx 295
Gts 250 (Physx/Cuda)

I don't pretend to be an expert but I am telling you I have noticed an obvious difference in performance since installing the SSD.

I am not aware of Metro beeing 64-bit game therefore 8GB+ is pointless.
And Metro is not CPU bound, it is completely CPU unbound.

With SSD it is placebo effect for sure, but it is good for you and definetely enjoy the game :-)

I understand your SSD pleasure, but you should think a little.

I have this game installed on intel x25-v in raid 0, but I am still not getting very good frame rates. I'm barely in the 30fps range, dipping bellow often, at 1080p with graphics set to normal, physx on, and 3d vision on. This is a hallway shooter, it should run better.

My specs
i7 920 @3.3
gtx295 @669
6g 1333
x25-v raid0

Oh and some one needs to figure out how to fully disable AA. Thinking that would help out lots!
Anybody getting a strange flashlight visual bug where when you look up you can see a circle of light on your weapon? It's easiest to see when you have your journal out, and as far as i can tell this visual bug only happens when 3D is enabled for me.
Been a couple of months and this flashlight bug is still in the game. It's really hard for me to ignore, it's like a pimple on a otherwise gorgeous model. If only it would go away :(
