I think its simply a matter of thinking. When told you'll be getting a container that has some liquid in it: is the container partially full or partially empty?
Is that function or feature NOT exist until proven otherwise?
Is that function or feature exist/work until proven otherwise?
We can thank Minisquish for setting the standard years ago for advertising functionality pre-release that does not exist (or ever will exist) in the released product.
Personally I think Nvidia ought to have NOT given BF3 ANY rating even if their code included support for it UNTIL it was proven that the released game worked with their drivers in 3D mode.
Historically having a rating at all implies the RELEASED product/driver being tested.
(forgetting of course for the moment that '3dplay' is giving me BF3 in 3D even if the game does not officially support it)

Guys, there's 2 ways to look at this.
Would you rather Nvidia put no 3D Vision Profile for Battlefield 3 in the last 2 releses of the driver, even though the preview version of BF3 they were given to validate warranted a 3D Vision Ready designation?
OR
Would you rather Nvidia have put no profile in their driver at all, then when BF3 releases its 3D update patch, we have to wait for days, weeks for Nvidia to get a new driver out with 3D Vision profile?
Please don't chastise Nvidia for doing the proactive thing of including game profiles far in advance of a game's launch; something they have done for a long time now and a major reason we have good game support for SLI, AA and now 3D Vision on the day a new game lanches. A current example is Diablo 3. Its not even close to release, but people who have beta access can test it in 3D. Good for everyone right?
Also, for those calling Andrew a liar...please do some research. We know for a fact DICE is handling 3D implementation in BF3, the settings are in-game, they worked in Alpha, were there in Beta (did nothing), and have been removed in Retail. DICE has already said they plan to implement it in a patch, soon. No 3D Vision in BF3 right now has nothing to do with Nvidia's decision or actions, it is all on DICE. If you want, you can enable a workaround to get 3D Vision working, with some issues, which again proves the driver is ready to support BF3. Either wait for the patch from DICE, lobby DICE on their forums, or use the workaround, pointing fingers at Nvidia and calling them liars does nothing constructive....

I would have Rather Nvidia, EA and Dice provide the information to the Consumers prior to 7 hours before the release that the game will not be 3D ready on release. If the provided game to Nvidia was 3D ready, then why wasn't it released to the Consumers? What makes us think that when they are finished doing what ever fixes they do to make the 3D Game ready that the current 3D profile will work with the updated game. Wouldn't Nvidia still have take the updated Version, test it, verify if it's 3D ready, and update/optimize the profile if it isn't?
I preordered the game on October 24th 2011 around 5pm. At 7:25pm I saw a post from Andrew that the game would not be 3D Ready on the first patch. If I had seen that post at 4:30pm or even a few days ago I could have saved my money for now until the game was actually 3D Ready and tested.
It's a failure on both Nvidia's side and EA/DICE in my opinion. These aren't features we are begging to be supported. These are features we are paying a high price for support, in terms of purchasing the 3D vision Equipment or 3D play.

Much of this makes no sense, given we are dealing with many solid assurances from reputable firms vs. total abstract nonsense in your rhetorical examples.
Also, this is not always the case historically since Aion had a similar 3D Vision rating update months ago that was contingent on the update released by NCSoft just a few weeks ago. Those users who benefitted were similarly slightly miffed, but I'm sure they were elated when the game just worked perfectly once the patch went through without having to wait for another update from Nvidia. I'm sure we will see similar in this case once BF3 is updated.

Well, this should be obvious, IHVs and ISVs work together throughout the development process to make sure the games run well on their hardware. Its one of the backbones of the entire TWIMTBP program that helps ensure we have as few problems as possible on Day 1 release, with as many features supported as possible (SLI, AA, PhysX, 3D Vision etc). I would say the program works quite well since we generally do have all the proper profiles and bits in place on launch day or well in advance, and is certainly a better approach than constantly trying to react after the fact. Why EA didn't provide that built to the public? Who knows? Maybe some last minute changes they made to game assets dictated it wouldn't be 3D Vision Ready? For example, I noticed straight away they cleaned up the 3D icons and markers and some of the gun assets compared to Beta. All of these need to be QA'd to make sure they also work in 3D. If you were here for the BFBC2 patch that broke 3D Vision, you would remember how important this can be.

Certainly possible, but it would also be easier for Nvidia to have something out there that works, and make incremental changes to it based on our input, than to have nothing at all right?

Well you can see by the progression of this thread, many of us had strong doubts 3D Vision would be ready at launch. If 3D Vision was the only reason you bought the game, you should've probably held off, or looked for a refund after you got official confirmation that it wasn't going to be 3D Ready at launch. But same can be said for any of the high price we pay and the level of support we expect I guess, if something doesn't meet your expectations right this moment then its always safer to wait.....

Well I am pretty sure Andrew is a real person or Nvidia is doing a good job of creating a fake persona:
http://blogs.nvidia.com/author/andrew-fear/
I remember when an earlier post about 3d Support for BF3 came out and I mentioned my concerns about DICE following through with their original commitment for 3D support:
I consider myself a 3D Vision fanboy, to the point that I set myself up for the inevitable flaming from people on forums when I ask for 3D support on a game from a developer. This includes the usual "it's a gimmick" response, takes to long to implement, etc. I also try to contribute to the 3D Vision community, offering suggestions on how to fix problems with games, posting screenshots of how well certain games look, etc. It just seems that being an active member of this community is not worth the aggravation sometimes, especially lately for some reason.
I hope 3D support does finally get added to the game but since EA is moving away from supporting it, I still would not be shocked if no support comes at all. I have no problem voicing my concerns over issues here, including the fiasco that was Witcher 2 until it finally got fixed. I just think people are being a little unfair blaming Nvidia for BF3 not having 3D Vision support at this time.

So, do I assume a big corporation will lie to us to help sell their product? Absolutely. Its called advertising.

I remember when an earlier post about 3d Support for BF3 came out and I mentioned my concerns about DICE following through with their original commitment for 3D support:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=209041
This references EA seeing "poor returns" on 3D:
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/36086/EA_Sees_Poor_Returns_On_3D_Focuses_On_Social_Instead.php

Wow, is that what you really think of me? :)
I've been playing games since 1989. One of my first games I played was Space Quest II.
I am currently playing BF3, Uncharted 3 on my PS3, Black Ops, and Deux Ex: Human Revolution.
If you really think Pac Mac is my game of choice, you are way off.
If you want to challenge me to a deathmatch, let me know :)

Alright, you disconnect your Wii, put the Xbox back in and exchange the Frogger Elite disk for the BF3, or..... load up your laptop PC with the 12" screen and green L.E.D.'ed Razor mouse and we'll deathmatch in BF3 at 12:00 high noon tomorrow. Or will that get in the way of Zelda?
