driver and OS deadline horror technical, but I just need pointers I think
OK, I have a prickly problem for work. There's a demo that's not ready to test yet, there's a deadline.

I run a cluster of Sun Ultra 40 M2's with 2x2 quad core AMD64, nominally running RHEL5.3, through christie s+3k projectors at 1400x1050x102 with g-sync and crystal eyes.

We've been forced to re-implement in a week into windows, so I have a choice of XP64, cluster server 2003 server 64, and vista based cluster server 2007 64bit, which although it increases my options, it leaves me in a target rich environment for where to spend my time.
The graphics are NV Quadro X5600 1.5Tb PCIx I think, single slot, single card, single output to the projectors over VGA. The dins go to the projectors, and then seem to daisy chain out into the emitters for the IR crystaleyes (5 high range).
Whole system works (ish) with a creeping signal to noise ratio effecting lock across some screens in RHEL5.3, but I know there's a sync. I have no idea how the g-sync are connected yet but I'm working to find out how master is disseminated in windows setup.
This whole thing is a mess because there's NOTHING coming out of openscenegraph or openSG onto the system frame lock. Can't see a pulse on a scope. The drivers are the current 166 something. I need to look into that, and they're set to drive the projectors at 102hz. I have set forced din 3d in the driver though we all expected this to be application controlled at that stage. Still nothing.

I think my problem is driver related, possibly 64bit OS related on top of that.

Can anyone advise what I need to try for the best in terms of OS, and driver combination? I have a few chances to test on a spare machine, then a single desperate shot to deploy into the cluster in time for next Monday morning.

I have to shotgun this out to forums without digging too hard through the history yet, since I'm so time constrained. My apologies for taking liberties like this. I'll be back in with feedback if anyone can advise me.

Thanks

I’ve been banging my head against a wall with the system all day. freeGLUT has been patched and is quad buffering correctly now.

I’m using windows XP-64, cluster compute variant, with the g-sync enabled quadro driver found here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_178.92.html as per Nvidia’s advice, but I’ve also tried their current 18x series driver, and the commodity D3D stereo driver out of desperation.

big manual http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/Quad...Quadro17892.pdf

Single display and 3d shuttering are forced on in the driver, with output set to DIN as it should be. There is only one screen at present so it shouldn’t matter about g-sync master/slave until we solve this problem. There is resolutely no output to be seen on the system sync line. The glasses don’t shutter, and we’ve put a scope on the line.

is there a check I can try?

I don't have any experience with the actual kit you're using, but you could try the E-dimensional activator. It can be used to force some makes of glasses to turn on, though I don't know if it'll do the trick for your setup or not.
Cheers,
DD

ok, will have a go tomorrow, but my instinct is that I have one of those situations where re-installing windows from the top will sort it for no reason... everything seems in place. I'll try both...

so far I've tried:

current march 9th g-syncII + fx5600 driver pack for server 2003x64
downgrade to xp64, try current feb g-syncII + fx5600 driver pack

downgraded to 32bit windows, try current quadro drivers, current g-sync drivers, forceware 169.50, sun driver nforce pack, and current forceware in the hope of using a spare system as a master sync running a nonsense application to activate the emitter loop.

I have used the ED tool which enables the registry option for glasses, and tried all the options. I can see quad buffering in front of my, the glasses work, but the emitters are dead.

All nothing.

gutted. I've missed the big demo now, but if anyone can help then it'd be appreciated for next time.

the proven stereo 32bit downgrade I have now delivers stereo, but is unaware of the gsync cards, which obviously I need. I'm looking at http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_178.92.html but can't seem to get stereo. Anyone?

well, if I'm honest that didn't go too well in windows back at the start of the month, but I got away with it. I've been trying to sort the gsync issue in RHEL5.3. Two of the systems were refusing to bring up nvidia's control panel, but I could get green lights across the five screens I'm using for timing and sync with a server and clients for framelock.. All well and good, but there was clearly still a problem since one screen or another wouldn't be locked at any given time.

With this as the background to the situation, and this driver
NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 173.01 Development Build (rel/gpu_drv/r173/r173_00-9684) (2252897) (buildmeister@builder62) Thu Feb 21 10:41:56 PST 2008

I opted to update across the system to
NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 177.70.35 Fri Feb 27 13:11:43 PST 2009

brought up all the nvidia settings panels; still though two crashed, so I used

nvidia-settings -c localhost:0 -a localhost:0/FrameLockEnable=1

(from memory) and got green lights on all but stereo (expected since not in stereo at the time?)

the ran up my usual openscenegraph demo and got NO SHUTTERING YIKES. It's quadbuffering, but not 3D.

Next I copied back the old xorg.conf with the christie projector info back over, reset X and tried again.

Still not working.

By now I'm feeling stupid, and a little lost. I seem to be on a bit of a losing streak. Can anyone help with this?
