3D Vision Help
  1 / 3
First of all I would like to say I am proud to be owning a 3d vision system. I have had it since late last year, or early this year (I suffer from a problem in which I do not percieve time in a linear fashion, so I am not the most reliable, usually, for periods fo time passing between events), and think it is the most worthwhile investment.
I am currently running a gtx 470, with 8gb of ram. I have also recently reinstalled windows. I have the 266.58 drivers installed.

4 days ago, I had updated to latest beta drivers for my graphics card, and I could run EVE Online in window mode in 3d.
Powerdvd 10 mark 2 ultra also functioned correctly. 3d movies looked great. 2d to 3d conversions looked good. Note: Community, anyone else looking at getting it, the better quality the video, the better quality the conversion. My star trek voyager rips (I have the borg cube boxset, but prefer digital to disk for many reasons) didnt look as good as my stargate atlantis ones, and they arent as high quality. Mind you, bones 720p look great, and 1080p movies I have found little problems with. The Dark knight is amazing in 2d > 3d conversion.

Bad company 2, however, wouldnt enter 3d mode. It kept saying that it wasnt in the right mode or something. You know, the little red text in the box in the bottom middle of the screen. So I went through a lot of hassel. Uninstalling drivers, installing drivers, ccleaning, etc. Eventually, installing everything for 266.58 off the driver cd download, bad company 2 and my movies run flawlessly. Better then they ever did. I can even activate lasersight in bad company 2 without it crashing the game or my computer. But eve wont run, fullscreen or otherwise, in 3d mode. At first it just wouldnt alternate frames and the left side of the shutter would stay dark while the right side wouldnt. Now the whole window goes black.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I might be able to do to get eve running in 3d mode again, without it interfearing with any other games? Also: When I first got my 3d vision kit and alienware monitor, eve would run in 3d, but after the update that added antialiasing, it wouldnt function correctly with AA active in eve. It would lag, use a tremendous amount of cpu power, and it would all blur. Like if I rotated the camera around my ship, everything would blur and I would just get one massive whirl of colours and that would remain even when the camera stopped moving, until I disabled 3d vision or AA. I do not know if that still is the case or not though.

anyone at all got recommendations on what I could try to correct the problem with EVE, or should I make do until I update drivers when I get my gtx 590 at the end of the tax year?

My only guess would be to change EVE's settings to the absolute minimum and try to run. If that works, start adding settings one by one until you establish the settings that break 3D Vision. If it doesn't work, well, you're out of luck. You can ask Eve's developers why it happened and maybe they can give you some tips on how to get 3D Vision working again.

Thanks for the response Zloth, but it is not an EVE Online issue. I have now confirmed it is, in deed, a driver issue.
I have, again, installed 270.51 drivers, which have (for the second time) broken Bad Company 2 in 3d, but eve runs in 3d, flawlessly, now. Fullscreen, window mode, borderless window. I am yet to test with AA active.
Nor have I tested any other game yet to see if its just BC2 that is broken in stereoscopic 3d, with the 270.51 drivers

Hi

What display are you using that is causing the red message to appear?

I would love to know how you got eve to work with 270.51 drivers will not work at all for me or anyone I know since the patch that CCP brought out about a week ago

It just killed 3D dead

yea, Im sorry, but I cant help. I dont know what happened. I just installed the drivers. Mind you, it doesnt look anywhere near as good as it used to in 3d, but there is at least a small amount of depth perception. What I want to know is how people get bad company 2 in 1920x1080 to work with 270.51 drivers. It wont run stereoscopic 3d for me.

OR, alternatively, how to get eve to run in stereo-3d with the latest non-beta drivers.
Im running a gtx 470

Hi

Can you specify exactly what HW you are running and when you say its not working what does that mean?
- GPU Gtx 470
- driver 270.51
- display type?
- When it doesnt work, what happens? 2D? Red warning message?
- Did you complete the setup wizard?

Display type is dual-link dvi to an alienware aw2310 (thats the 23" model, not the 22")
In Bad Company 2, at 1920x1080 resolution, I get a quick stereoscopic flicker before it returns to standard mode and I get a red warning message. At sub 1920 resolutions it runs.
EVE Online goes into S-3D mode, but even with maximum gain turned up has minimal depth perception.

In the latest non-beta drivers Bad Company 2 runs without issue, but when EVE enters S-3D mode, fullscreen or otherwise, when I have a windows aero theme active the client just goes black, cant see anything. When I have a classic theme, it appears to enter S-3d, but the left shutter of the glasses stays dark, though I can see what is on screen.

In case you suspect it might be releated to drivers interacting with other hardware, Im using an i7-950 and 8gb of ram on a 64-bit system.

Orcus, I posted about the exact same issue in the Beta driver thread two days ago and still have not received any response about it. Half of my games exhibit the same behavior as you're describing, and the other half work fine. I think the distinction is that the games that won't enter stereoscopic mode no longer are being launched at 120hz anymore, and instead are running at 1080p@60hz (hence you see the stereoscopic blur but the glasses will not shutter at this frequency)

The games I tested that exhibit this behavior in this beta driver are:
Bad Company 2
Just Cause 2
Homefront
Crysis 1 (DX10)

Even though I have the S3D control panel set to force all games to run at 1920x1080@120hz , THESE still launch at 60hz. (In the case of BC2, it actually lists 119hz in the menu, but not 120hz. Upon setting 119hz I believe it actually sets 60hz.)

NOTE: in Just Cause 2 and Homefront (untested in the other two), I can pick any lower resolution, and it will enter stereoscopic mode just fine (but blurry, since it's non-native resolution)

I have fixed my issue with Bad Company 2

I had to create a custom resolution in the nVidia Control Panel 1920x1080, 32bit, progressive.
I noticed after having done this that when I selected the native resolution in the nvidia control panel (which is exactly that) it had 120mhz selected at 16 bit colour. When I selected 32 bit, it changed the refresh rate to 110mhz, and when I changed it back to 120mhz it changed the colour automatically to 16 bit again.

Now Im using an Alienware monitor, with the Alienware drivers. I know that is not the issue. It seems its not game profiles that are broken, but perhaps the drivers themselves, at least with regards to high refresh rates.

Back to Bad Company 2: I used the BC config tool to set me settings, resolution, refresh rate, etc. I saved, then I locked the settings.ini file by making it read only. Once I started the game it reset its resolution to something different, and I had to go into options and pick 1920x1080, 119mhz (why 119 and not 120 is beyond me), I proceeded to activate S3d and laser sight and both activated without issue. I didnt test laser sight completely, as I did not enter game. But so far the custom resolution fixed BC2.

EVE, on the otherhand, while it does enter s3d mode, does not appear to be displaying different images. While the change in appearance when s3d is active (maybe due to wearing the glasses) makes it look different, there is little to no depth perception, and I alter divergence. When I move the wheel up or down nothing appears on screen. Nor do I get the green message telling me the games rating.

EDIT: I messed with 3d app control for the eve exe within nvidia control panel. Nothing helped. Star Trek Online, however, works flawlessly. I mean not flawlessly, there are some issues (such as with shadows not displaying correctly) but space combat and space travel is absolutely beautiful.

I tried locking the CFG file to read-only as well, but the game still launched at 60hz unfortunately.

Just tested:
Crysis 1 DX10
BFBC2

Tried both while the force 120hz game launch option was selected from the stereoscopic setting panel, and while it was unchecked as well. Same outcome.

They still say "attempt to run stereoscopic in non-stereoscopic mode"

As a side-note, BFBC2 still lists refresh rates as 109hz, 119hz, etc.
