I see a few PS3 & BluRay questions
3D BluRay requires HDMI 1.4 or put a bluray player in your pc and run PowerDvD 10
Alienware has HDMI 1.3
PS3 says Firmware 3.30 will do 3D games, later firmware update for movies, but PS3 has HDMI 1.3, Hmmm??
**UPDATE**3.30 just released a hour ago**
Sony rep say PS3 will only work with Sony Tv's

All other manufactures say you need HDMI 1.4 for 3D
Somehow Sony PS3 can run 3D on hdmi 1.3, maybe they are just sending video on hdmi and using the audio oytput for sound, so many questions
I agree with the OP,this Is just an OK monitor that does not get close to the rated specs. I own the NEC EA231WMi that outdoes this monitor In every category, and I don't notice any more ghosting with the NEC than I do with the Alienware?! I know, It pi**ed me off when I hooked this up to my PC and noticed how harsh and washed out everything was compared to the NEC, and It does have bad back-light bleeding like the OP said. I'm not sure If I'll keep this monitor or return It for a 5870 from dell that Is also overpriced. Overall my old Samsung 8ms had less ghosting than this overpriced POS, and the build quality Is cheap compared the Samsung and NEC, and the stand Is no better than what you'd get with a cheaper monitor. Also It does not have support for DP...lame! I paid a 100$ less for the NEC than the Alienware but It's worth the 500 I paid for the Alienware.

I have the new acer screen (same panel as alienware same 3 year warrenty) -$100 ;)
Ghosting is still there in what I would describe as the planar 3d titles , stuff like l4D and Dragon age (basically most of the DX( console fodder we all play) and most games still have a planar 3d effect. Ghosting generally occurs in these titles but I play at about 3-5% depth (which is fine and produces way les fatigue) and you get used to it. It's a minor thing and 3d just makes some games 10x better (l4d is a fine example).
Battlefield BC2 and Avatar and much more than most fo the other games more "avatar" the film 3d than the planer effect in most titles. here you instatly are glad you own N3d and people who try it go and buy N3d pretty much instantly.
The acer-alienware is a nice monitor only uses 35w in Eco mode when not in 3d (evben though its LCD not LED), really does have great 2d pixel refresh for 120 fps vysnc in FPS games and best yet 3d. Comparing it to the new Samsung LED TV or Panasonic Plasma 3d's which cost 4-6x more it's a great buy for 3d media and or N3d games.
The downside is you need a BEEFY Gpu to get most from it so for most of us it means 1-2 fermis to sit the right side of 40fps in the majority of new games.

Not really the same panel. After owning the alienware and using an acer side by side I can say the alienware is slightly better for all around use and the acer is slightly better in 3d. There are quite a few other third party reviews that say the same thing I do.
I agree they are very similar to the point the difference will likely be negligable to most (aside from the price difference) but I wouldn't say they are the same.

I got to test drive a friend's Acer and it was better than my old Viewsonic 3D monitor. With that said, I ended up getting the Alienware and am happy with purchase. While the Acer is cheaper I found the Alienware to be better overall in terms of color and brightness/contrast in my eyes. I also liked the look and design of the Alienware, to include the ability to tilt, swivel, and adjust the height.

I am currently having trouble with my Alienware OptX monitor with 3D vision. Having tested this monitor extensively maybe you, or someone here, can help me.
First, the specs on my computer
-Alienware M17x
-Dual SLI GTX 260M GPU's
-Core 2 Duo @ 2.8ghz
As of right now I have the Drivers/Software for 3D completely installed and the "Enable 3D" option is in my Nvidia control panel
I am connecting my monitor to my laptop with the DVI-to-HDMI cable included in the 3D kit. (HDMI end in the laptop) This is because my computer does not have a DVI port.
It has an HDMI port, a VGA port, and a Display port.
I can successfully set my refresh rate to a maximum of 110hz, however when I select 120hz the screen goes black. (Same result when trying to enable 3D)
Resolution is at 1920x1080 (Max)
Basically, I am unable to attain a refresh rate of 120hz despite using the correct monitor and cable with 3D ready GPU's.

What picture preset are you using? And how high do you set brightness in 3D mode?
The review here suggests the multimedia preset: Alienware AW2310 review. I use that as well on my AW2310 but in 3D mode I max out brightness - at least in the daytime.

Alienware is a 23" panel
Acer is a 23.6" panel
I don't know why people think they are the same
