While playing through the new Prey I got a hankering to go back and play through System Shock 2 (never finished it back in 1999). After downloading all the latest patches (community driven) and graphical upgrade mods I am able to play the game with good performance/visuals under DX9. Widescreen, AA, OpenAL 3d audio, high-res textures, upgraded models/assets.
I turned on 3dvision and while the emitter turns on, my monitor goes to 3d mode, and the Nvidia 3d crosshairs engage the rest of the game is just rendered in 2d.
I there a way to get 3d to engage in this game properly? Different game profile maybe?
Is it a Windows 10 limitation? Just looking for some assistance.

I played through the whole game awhile back, and it was frickin' awesome. I used iZ3D driver approach.
Here is what you need, the how-to on making it work with 3D Vision. It's DX6 originally, so normally HelixMod would not engage.

Not sure all that will work under Win10- Microsoft no longer cares about backward compatibility.
The closest I've come to getting it to work is pretty much the same way I got Thief Gold to work at the end of the thread bo3b linked above, force it to use DX6 in the cam_ext.cfg
; enable Direct3D 9 based display system (instead of the legacy DirectX 6 one)
; use_d3d_display
drop dgVoodoo2 into the SS2 root directory and use a modified StereoTextureEnable value.
SS2.nip:

...the problem is there's one eye issues with dgVoodoo2(HUD/text elements not showing in the left eye) I've tried using StereoFlagsDX10 in the Profile but it hasn't fixed it.
Not sure if it might be fixable with 3DMigoto but they don't play well together. When using the more recent versions of 3DMigoto(SBS versions?) it winds up crashing... the last version I have that works with dgVoodoo2 is 3Dmigoto-1.2.1.
edit:at one point I had it working with dgVoodoo2 and SuperDepth 3D, so that's also an option...

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like there is really no easy solution for SS2 on Windows 10 as I am pretty certain the IZ3d driver will not work on Win10 and the other method still has its faults as well.
Truly a shame as this game is one where the atmosphere would be enhanced like 200% by being in 3d.

Hi folks - i have to re-up this thread.
Today i spended i few hours to start the Steam Version of System Shock 2 in 3D Vision!
This game is probably one - if not THE best game in FPS-History.
Sadly it`s an original DX6 game. Based on the last patch (Steam Version 2.47) it is running on DirectX9.
At least i tried every FAQ, every program and every possibilty i found - without getting the game started in working 3D. Furhermore programs ala IZ3D + Tridef are not helpful. I think they have their own problems with Windows 10, maybe outdated.
I`m really fit with configures and injectores and knows the devil;-)
But in this case i`m really finished.
Any ideas out there, if it is possible to start old DX9 games?
Any other solutions (3D Fix Manager Setups, etc?).
I think this game is more then predestined to run even with Windows 10 up today.

I've just tried System Shock 2 in 3D.
Actually the solution is 2 posts above. Tsabeht gave the solution how to run this game in 3D Vision.
I've added a profile in 3D Fix Manager. Please download this special version of 3D Fix Manager - it already has the profile included: http://fixmanager.rentus.de/downloads/fix_manager_1.65_System_Shock_2.zip
What the profile does is actually the same what Tsabeht told - so all credits go to him. It installs DGVoodoo and tells the game to render in DX 6 in order to let DGVoodoo do its voodoo to render the game in DX 11. The driver profile is then corrected via 3dmigoto.
Keep in mind that HUD still renders one eye with this.
Maybe a shader hacker wants to look into this?

O M G it`s working with your file.
I just renamed the folder with the SS2 files and copied it to my current 3D Fix Manager Files.
After restarting 3D Fix Manager the game was detected immediately and the installation of the fix started without any problems.
That`s all!
And yes, there`s the error with the one eyed HUD.
But first, it`s acceptable - and second: Maybe there`s someone who can take a hand on?
Nevertheless, great thx to Tsabetht & of course Paul!

Masterotaku might have a look into fixing this game. I'll also publish the profile officially soon.
yea thank you guys.. it worked
BUT framerate is constant 23fps..on my 1080ti.. my cpu 43%..
someone know of a solution to this fps problem?
I only played about 5 minutes but the framerate was constant 60 fps for me (GTX 1080). I've preconfigured dgVoodoo to use 8xMSAA. I don't think that's the reason for the poor framerate as this game is really old. But you can try to change it to 4x maybe. Another reason might be other mods installed which don't work flawless?

For me constant high frame rate too... with the standard Voodoo config.
GTX1040... no problems.
@ aitan8385; You heard good things? I´ve played this game (together with a friend) a few weeks after release.
I can tell you, with exception of Dead Space 1, Alien Isolation and Bioshock 1+2 it`s still the best and thrilling game in that genre.
It´s freaky horrifying and thrilling!!
And atmosphere as it`s best, although level of difficulty from another world. Even in the easiest game-mode.
Have fun ;-)

maybe I’ll try to uninstall everything and try again.
Thanks!
