Windows 10 update 1803 causing trouble...
  2 / 3
Is anyone else noticing heat issues after upgrading to the latest windows version? I'm thinking of updating my drivers. I'm currently on 388.59 which is so far the only drivers I don't get g-sync issues.

I (unintentionally) updated to Windows 10 1803 today, and everything now seems to be working with 4K EDID mod and my single GPU - but I have only tested The Surge (replaying to visit Creo World). However, I had to first disable Windows Game mode, and disable Windows Display HDR and WCG (HDR setting washed out color on OLED TV, with/without EDID override). I also used DDU and installed latest graphics driver (397.64), since 1803 update made changes to my older driver. With the new OS update, I had to use Advanced Startup to once again (temporarily) disable driver signature validation for the EDID override.

What driver are you on and did you clean install said driver? I'm trying to determine if my issues are hardware or OS related. I spoke with an Nvidia rep over the phone a few days ago and, rather naively, took their recommendation to simply update to the latest driver, 397.64. I refrained from doing a clean install, or DDU etc, just out of curiosity and although the driver installed properly (a rarity) the problems from 388.71 where enabling 3D Vision a few times seems to break G-Sync has persisted. I am going to try clean reinstalling this driver and I'm going to sit there and enable 3D Vision, fire up a game, exit the game, disable 3D Vision until I can replicate the G-Sync failing issue. If I can do that then it's a 99% chance my problems are related to the G-Sync module in the monitor. I don't know how many times you actually shut down your PC but I leave my PC on constantly (if fixing 3D Vision via reboot is not needed) as I am mining crypto when I'm not gaming. You may have the same issues but it's just that because you may be shutting down your PC at least every day youre not seeing them crop up.
I'm on driver version 397.64. Honestly I never used DDU as the "dirty" way for installing the driver worked so far. I completely shut down my computer every night. Buying an Asus PG278Q is like lottery. You read a lot of negative stuff on Amazon. Seems like Asus does not care much about quality assurance. I had luck with my monitor but I wouldn't be surprised if your monitor is faulty. To prove this you could order the PG278QR from amazon, test it and if this one works correctly send your faulty monitor back for replacement. Or you make a fresh install of windwos (I know that takes lot of time) and see if it's some kind of software bug due to your windows installation.
What is the difference between PG278Q and PG278QR? Thanks for the advice.

No video issues for me but the hacky drivers I had to keep my decade-or-so-old SoundBlaster card finally gave out. And, in trying to fix them, I tried to disable the motherboard sound - which caused the motherboard to reboot endlessly.... arg.

My problem after updating to 1803 is that I can no longer play Wolfenstein 2 (the DLCs) because the old Wolfenstein crash problem is back. Driver version 397.64
What is the difference between PG278Q and PG278QR? Thanks for the advice.
I have the R for my primary driver and along with two of the first versions as my surround monitors. Generally it's just a refresh, but it also has an HDMI port and improved OSD with a few more options. However, I had a hell of a lot of intermittent problems running the PG278Q as my primary screen until getting the refresh for the HDMI port. (so I could plug my Ps4 into the same screen.) It feels like they just squashed a lot of the problems this monitor had with the R version. I haven't really had any issue since switching to it. I remember when these monitors first came out, hell it took Nvidia well over a year to release a driver which worked with this monitor in SLI. Very happy with my PG278QR though but yes be careful of QA issues I still had to return my first one due to dead pixels. As for windows updates... still delayed on my system for 365 days... I am starting to like windows 10, but the forced updates are abhorrent.

Friends I have a terrible issue with the last update win 10 1803. I have the Nvidia geforce 210. After the update suddenly the screen is not whole, I mean that it's not whole from the right. That means that I don't see the X button and many other options. Alltogether everything tunrned smaller. I tried adjusting the screen climate, etc. I even spent half a day with remote microsoft support but we couldn't fix the issue. The only possible way to resolve this is to adjust the resolution to 1680*1050 which is not acceptable as you can imagine. Microsof suggested to contact nvidia forum and ask if someone found a solution or whether there is a possibility for a new driver (I have the latest 2016 I think)

When 3D is not kicking in for DirectX 9 games under Win10 v.1803 you have to set "Stereo Profile" to "yes" in the individual driver profile via Nvidia Profile Inspector. For a hand full games I have added this to 3D Fix Manager but I'm sure that there are still a lot more games which need this setting. For Trine 2 I didn't have to do anything... all worked fine as StereoProfile was already set to "yes" by default.
