I think without shadows the game does look horrible, it is really sad to not be able to play the game in S3D without it looking like a 5 year old game. this way this technology will be dead again like 10 years ago.

Just recentley purchased this game. Yeah i agree with what you said there. Shadows are messed up bad and the unintentional pop outs cause bad vision. Turn shadows to low or off ruins the game world if you play in 3D, but, the rest of the game world in 3D does look great. It is such a shame for such a great game, but i would imagine it would of been an absolute nightmare for the developers of GTA4 to have made this game 3D Vision Ready, or even 3D Vision supported. Night time shadows are ok, not too bad, can live with that but day time shadows are horrendous. What a shame.

I showed my 3d vision system to my cousin a couple weeks ago. GTA IV was the first game I showed him. After picking his jaw up off the floor (lol), I actually had to point out that the shadows were turned off before he even noticed, and he plays the xbox360 version so he is used to shadows. Thats how much of an impact 3d has. I don't mind turning off shadows, if thats the way it has to be. Maybe GTA V will be proper.
I still play GTA daily in 3d. Great stress reliever.

Yeah you can get used to it but shadows add to the depth of the game world. Screenshots 2D maxed out with GTX 580, lol.
These screenshots were taken in 3d Vision by FRAPS, in some scenes the framerate dropped to around 10fps. This is with every setting at maximum, plus, V Sync on or off made no real difference in game. But, it does look great in 3D except the issue with shadows in the day time.

It is defo one of the best looking games around. So much detail in the world!
Mate if you look at my shots I have turned the view and detail down to 15 and I always have frames greater than 30 even on my rig. On your rig you could easily achieve a higher number. Can you even tel the difference between 70 and 100? Because of the cool way the objects filter in you really do not notice the pop up and at 15 most objects are around in you area!
I also had to turn reflections off because it is messed up - are they not for you?

Hi
Right now we do not have a profile for GTA4. We are still working with the developer to try to enable the game to work in 3D.

This game looks amazing with max depth and high convergence, but the nvidia laser sight doesnt seem very accurate at getting the depth right (2 cursors over peoples heads, especially when up close).
The only way this is really possible to play is by turning off all shadows, turning on auto lock and using the ingame cross-hair at screen depth, or to play with no depth at all (which defeats the point of 3d)
Can this be improved at all? Such a shame you guys didn't manage to get rockstar to implement a 3d cursor their side like in just cause 2. This game could be excellent rating then.

It's nearly three years later, has there been any update on a 3D Vision profile for this game? With today's graphic card power it is easy to run the game at max detail and resolution with fluid frame rate, so 3D vision would surely be on the cards?
Its such a living and busy city, 3Dvision would look excellent. Please can a dev give us an update?

I tried it before, but the character was 'out' of the screen making it blurry and broken. however it's patched a few times (been playing at 120 fps in 2d, my 6-core + 460 works great for that and i was mostly just playing left 4 dead 2, some games randomly work due to settings and even some console commands being there :)
also read my blog! aersixb9x.wordpress.com , i write about games and 3d vision, biggest perk is navigation, 'fun' is there too i bet the city looks great and i can actually navigate with no hud. aim is good too, buy an airsoft if you haven't really tried it. or punch a wall ;p
gta 4 is a great game would love to see 3d vision, plus now i can work the controls and the multiplayer works great :) was just in free mode with +1 we were buddies in same car, +2 join turns into a ffa with cops everywhere, then i pushed the windows key by 'accident' and here i am i think i'm gonna try the 3d again, been a month maybe, game is mostly screen, and adding depth (despite bugs, plz donate to nvidia so they fix bugs. also xna fullscreen didn't work good and there's no documentation. gonna use more c++ and i think i got the nvidia sdk tools, yet am unsure why not use directx and c# or c++......i'm leaning towards the c# since it debuggs faster :) and also no 'string' is how long issues still very, very fast specially on 64 bit i guess i have it, makin a 2d game in d3d, and for modeling and finding vertexes i wish the 3d was less buggy
also the game is uh headphones n input, and mine is a dollhouse or 120 fps :) although i don't usually actually get 120 in gta 4 due to insisting on turning up draw distance. also seems kinda stuck near 85 sometimes but just frapsed it at 60

With 3DVIsion/3DTV driver installed, just run GTA4. It works.

Thanks to the fix by mana84 which was posted on the Helix Mod site I was able to enjoy GTA IV in 3d to the fullest.
I am about to finish the game so wanted to know whether GTA :: the Episodes from liberty city has any similar kind of solution to fix the 3D.
It would be insane if its fixed like the original GTA4 :)

Hi
Right now we do not have a profile for GTA4. We are still working with the developer to try to enable the game to work in 3D.
[/quote]
This game looks amazing with max depth and high convergence, but the nvidia laser sight doesnt seem very accurate at getting the depth right (2 cursors over peoples heads, especially when up close).
The only way this is really possible to play is by turning off all shadows, turning on auto lock and using the ingame cross-hair at screen depth, or to play with no depth at all (which defeats the point of 3d)
Can this be improved at all? Such a shame you guys didn't manage to get rockstar to implement a 3d cursor their side like in just cause 2. This game could be excellent rating then.

gta 4 is a great game would love to see 3d vision, plus now i can work the controls and the multiplayer works great :) was just in free mode with +1 we were buddies in same car, +2 join turns into a ffa with cops everywhere, then i pushed the windows key by 'accident' and here i am i think i'm gonna try the 3d again, been a month maybe, game is mostly screen, and adding depth (despite bugs, plz donate to nvidia so they fix bugs. also xna fullscreen didn't work good and there's no documentation. gonna use more c++ and i think i got the nvidia sdk tools, yet am unsure why not use directx and c# or c++......i'm leaning towards the c# since it debuggs faster :) and also no 'string' is how long issues still very, very fast specially on 64 bit i guess i have it, makin a 2d game in d3d, and for modeling and finding vertexes i wish the 3d was less buggy

Why do you want a profil or a update ?
With 3DVIsion/3DTV driver installed, just run GTA4. It works.

Easy, with a new profile or an update maybe the shadows works fine.

I am about to finish the game so wanted to know whether GTA :: the Episodes from liberty city has any similar kind of solution to fix the 3D.
It would be insane if its fixed like the original GTA4 :)
