Official NVIDIA 3D Vision 257.21/CD v1.29 Feedback Thread
  2 / 5
With the 257.21 drivers and Metro 2033 there's a huge problem where if you disabled 3D vision (CTRL-T). The screen gets all jumbled and it's impossible to play. It was the same way with the beta drivers. Downgrading back to the old version fixed the problem but it was an enormous hassle to do so. Now that these drivers are signed and everything I was expecting them to function properly.

So the only way to play the game in normal mode (2D) is to disable the 3D Vision functionality directly from the drivers (nvidia's control panel).

EDIT:

Forgot to add that I'm running Windows 7 x64, evga GTX 480 SuperClocked. 8 GB RAM. Samsung 2233RZ monitor.
I'm having issues with Just Cause 2 with my dual 480 GTX SLI and dedicated 8800 GTX setup for physx. The problem is that the game freezes on a blank screen shortly after the 3D environment loads up. I move my mouse to look around and within a few seconds, the game freezes.

When I disable SLI and then run Just Cause 2, it works great. The problem is when it is running in SLI mode.

I have all of my settings for the game on high except I turned motion blur off.

This problem occurred with the last beta drivers (3D Vision Full 1.27) and is still present in this version.

Desktop/Notebook make and model: 780i
Graphics Cards/Processors used in your Desktop/Notebook: Two (2) 480 GTX running in SLI mode and One (1) 8800 GTX dedicated for physx
Amount of system memory installed: 4 GB
Operating System: Windows 7 64 bit
Monitor/Projector/HDTV make and mode: Samsung 2233RZ
Is your 3D Vision Ready display configured as the primary or secondary monitor? Primary
If issue with video playback software, which version are you using? N/A
OK, I found a solution... Just in case anyone else has these issues with 2 480 GTX cards in SLI, you need to disable the "Bokeh Filter" setting.

I've got issues with enabling DirectX 10 or DirectX 11 with graphics set to "Very High". I have to leave it at DirectX 9. /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Everything is maxed out in Metro. I haven't tried bringing those settings down, so I just play in 2D. I do like 3D but sometimes I just want to play 2D.

You guys should submit the games to M3GA (http://www.mtbs3d.com/m3ga).

If the game is listed and is improved since the previous driver version, that's helpful. If a game has actually declined, that's helpful too.

The more we know about how these profiles impact the games in a tangible way, the better.

If a game is already listed, and your results are different, don't be shy! Just keep the submissions honest.

Chopper
I would imagine it's clearly a business decision. NVidia probably gets paid by the developer for the profile in advance. The more money NVidia gets from a developer the higher a priority their games become. It's only logical as this is a business, but it would also be nice if problems were fixed in a timely manner. But, at some point, a company has to decide which is ultimately more important: the satisfaction of the consumer that they claim is important or the quest for the almighty dollar. Both are achievable goals, but the majority of corporations always choose the latter regardless of what they claim.
Its part of their business model but based on interviews about Nvidia's devrel program The Way Its Meant To Be Played (TWIMTBP), it works a bit different than that. Nvidia and a publisher/developer enter into a co-marketing deal early in development (TWIMTBP logo program) where no money changes hands directly but they both work to support each other's efforts to ensure software and hardware compatibility.

Nvidia offers test hardware and direct access to engineering resources, which is why we are seeing some of these compatibility profiles months in advance of a title's release. These games in turn are being developed on Nvidia hardware with direct support and feedback from Nvidia's software engineers, helping to ensure compatibility (SLI, AA, 3D Vision profiles) and performance for these titles out-of-the-box come release date. The direct Nvidia involvement also manifests itself with specific value-add features in games that feature GPU PhysX or in-game AA like in Batman, or CUDA water/Bokeh filter in Just Cause 2. As a result, both parties win as the developers get a better game and a chance to perhaps score an Nvidia game bundle (I'm sure money changes hands here) and Nvidia has high assurance their cards work optimally with the top game releases on the PC upon release.

The program as designed works great, the problem is when newer drivers break older driver support and performance. When you have all your engineers looking forward, its hard to get some of them to look in the rear view mirror for regression testing to make sure the drivers aren't causing more harm than good. Obviously the more games you have in the rear view, the harder it is to make sure performance hasn't degraded. Unfortunately, it seems the R257 drivers are in this boat where they are an improvement overall without 3D, but they are a step backwards with 3D Vision enabled.

Yep I can confirm this as well, it seems like the Stereo driver is holding/buffering portions of frames and is very similar to the effect in some games where Motion Blur is left on and leaves smudged frames in 1 eye or both.

I have not been real impressed with any of the 256 series drivers on my system so far. While I can see some performance increases for the games they list as being improved in 2D, it seems enabling 3D cause a bigger performance hit than the older 190 series drivers did. Also, as is the case with either driver sets, the SLI utilization goes down more for DX10 and more so in DX11 games than the DX9 ones. All this means that most of the games I have run about the same with either set, including Metro 2033. The exceptions that I have seen so far that Bad Company 2 runs better with these newer drivers while Just Cause 2 actually runs worse.

I would probably just stick with these newer drivers but with nHancer being broken I can't bring myself to use these until that nifty utility is working again.

Fallout 3 has issues with this driver. When you access the PIP Boy with stereoscopic sight activated and then close the PIP Boy, the stereoscopic sight is at the wrong depth. I have a 480GTX.

Bad Comp 2. 3D works fine, except :
You can set depht only at 7 or 8 points of the scale, otherwise you get an echo of profiles.
You can't use scope of guns.Haze is too enhanced in 3D.

Seems that the driver breaks more than it actually fixes.... terrible, terrible update....

I confirm problems with Fallout 3. Some artifacts are present.
