Looking to purchase this screen 84 inch portable glass beaded screen
I will be sitting around 10 feet away from it and using the optoma hd67n. The projector will be placed around a foot underneath my eye level.
Just a quick confirmation before i spend this money, i am buying glass beaded because:
1) 3d glasses cuts the lumens in half so you need a high gain screen for good quality e.g 2.5
2) I will be only using this and will be sitting centrally infront of the screen so the angle of reflection is suited for a glass beaded screen
Are these two statements correct?
I have some concerns too that I might see this "grainy" picture, like I am seeing crystals because of the beads. Do you think it is a case of trial and error? The screen is reasonably cheap and also comes with a device to keep it taut.

At 84 inches I would say a 2.5 gain will be way to high and get lots of hot spotting. I would look at just a standard 1 to 1.1 gain as the brightness only becomes and issue on much bigger screens.

I would completely agree with this. Given your throw distance and size of screen with the HD67N you are going to be at well over 100 foot lamberts!
In addition to hotspotting you are undoubtedly going to see "sparklies" on this screen, and if there are any portions of the screen where the beading has been unevenly applied these problems will be exacerbated.

Optoma will be ~500 lm after 800 hours! 120hz mode lumen is not the marketing lumen FYI.
Da Lite hi power is better than noname glass beaded because microscopic even beads, and it worths its price, especially the new grey high contrast , wow.

Also there will be no brightness drop with the new 120hz RGB LED fellows, & I don't know how long these dark LC shutterglasses can ruin our party yet!!! But not for long !!! /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
(ps.: theres no hotspot and sparkies with glass beaded screen, silver has hotspot and sparkies , so if you want gain for cheap, maybe ask Captain Proton http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showuser=126285 about his hotspot , he might know a thing or two thanks to his sparkling DIY excellence... But remember! There ARE many High quality fabric solutions instead, without the silvery color shift & stuff, active projection is easily better than cinema!!)

I am also looking to get a projector and was wondering if this was a good enough screen, been doing alot of research and IMO this screen seems to be the best one out there,if anybody else can pointe me to something better please do as I am trying to build a (3d)theater/gameroom. I was also wondering I play/watch (3D) on a Samsung 61A750 led dlp and when I switch to the projector n screen will it look as crisp and clear as my Samsung? Thanks and PEACE link to screen http://thefinalclick.3dcartstores.com/Da-Lite-87175V-Cinema-Contour-with-Pro-Trim-133-Inch-Diagonal-65X116-HDTV-Format-High-Power-Surface_p_114695.html

They have a new material called Hi power - Hi contrast , its more grey than white, therefore rejects ambient light better.
As a rule of thumb, if you have ambient light in the room, try to set it up , so it arrives from the side towards the screen, its going to do a good job rejecting it.

Of course something like a Da-Lite or Stewart is a better option but this isn't what he was looking at....and I hate to put words in other people's mouth but I doubt with his price range these would even remotely be an option.
Irregardless, if you want to warrant that high gain (silver or not) glass beaded screens don't exhibit hotspotting and that using this projector with this (relatively small) screen from his given throw distance is a good idea.....well, I'll just shut my mouth and leave it alone now.

You will see the texture in the screen, but it's not obnoxious.
