Directv 3D with Mitsubishi DLP and NVIDIA glasses My theory on getting this to work
So, if you haven't heard, DirecTV is going to start broadcasting a few 3D stations on June 11th.

Now, this will be compatible with the "3D ready" Mitsubishi's, but you have to use a special convertor box that changes the signal to checkerboard format over the HDMI, and transmits IR to a different brand of glasses.

The thing is, I already have 4 pair of NVIDIA glasses and I don't want to buy any more of a different brand.

So, here is my theory on how to get this to work without buying new glasses.

I would buy the convertor box, which will change the signal from side-by-side to the correct checkerboard format for the TV. Then I would start a 3D game on my PC, which would activate the IR transmitter for the nvidia glasses. Now, even though I am watching the signal from the DirecTV box as the image, the glasses should sync up correctly because the transmitter is still getting it's signal from the VESA 3-pin connector coming from the back of the TV.

This is my theory, does anyone else think that this would or would not work? I'd like to know before I spend the extra $100 on the convertor box.

I've read about people doing this trick to get XBox 360 3D games (ea. Avatar) to work with the NVidia glasses, but I'm not sure they used DLP TVs or not. It may work, but I'm not sure if anyone can really give you a definitive answer. When I change the channel on my DLP from the 3D PC input to any other input, the transmitter shuts off until I change it back.

Yeah, that works on DLPs too. I did it with Avatar on xbox and Samsung dlp. I had to unplug the HDMI chord since you can't change the channel and since only 1 hdmi plug can be used for 3D on the TV. Anyone who has an HDMI switch can do it on the fly...

Subscribed to this, very interesting.

If mitsubishi can do it , I suppose the chinese also can. Can't wait to see. All the companies fracturing the 3d landscape can go to hell , nv included.

I wanna give an update to this thread as I have recently got the 3da-1 adapter for my mitsubishi dlp and own the nvidia system as well.
You are correct, you can use the nvidia system with the 3DA-1 adapter and works beatufiully.

I have issues changing channels with the 3d adapter connected to a directv hd box. Changing channels is VERY slow for some reason.

Anyhow, you need to have the computer turned on and 3D enabled on the PC. I do this by launching a game and leaving it on the main menu.

the connection goes as follows.

Connect emmiter sync cable from back of dlp to the mitsubishi 3d adapter emmiter input, connect nvidia 3d vision to "emmiter output" from the adapter. Change tv source to your 3D programming (directv receiver, bluray player etc) and enjoy 3D!!

There's a good picture here. Hope this info helps whoever is trying this out!

Do Mitsubishi 3D DLPs support 3D over multiple HDMI inputs? I have the Samsung 3d DLP and it only supports it using 1 HDMI plug... The only way I would be able to do this is to:

manually unplug the PC HDMI and plug in the cable form the adapter, after I tunr a game on with 3D vision on.
or
get an HDMI swith and switch to the input which has the Direct TV feed after I turn the 3D vision game on the PC
