Dragon Age Inquisition

The first patch for Dragon Age Inquisition comes out tomorrow (December 9th) for PC users. Hopefully this will allow a more stable game so a 3D fix can be posted. Hoping!

I would actually even just be happy with CM mode for this game which for the first time I think is actually pretty decent. Unfortunately this just crashes the game constantly, I pray to the maker the patch tomorrow fixes the instability in general.

I can get CM mode to work, but for some reason it's incredibly hard on the eyes for me. No matter what adjustment I use for CM, my eyes just start hurting. Might be because everything is at too "deep" depth, interface and all, and "distant" scenery just doesn't transition easy for the eyes for close up objects. This is on 46" 3DTV at couch distance. On the other hand, I've gotten "regular" 3D settings to a perfect convergence/depth level. Everything is so life-like with good popout and distant scenery, just the way I like it. Unfortunately, everything's pretty much broken (especially outdoor shadows) so it's not really usable until a fix is posted.

I also noticed there's inconsistency with 3D settings regardless if it's CM or regular. When loading up the game, it'll sometime look way off from the prior settings that were saved. It even looks like other things might be broken (things not showing in one eye for example). The way around this (for me) is to start the game in non 3D mode (1080p 60hz), and then switch to a 3D mode using the in-game resolution selector (1080p 24hz). The correct saved 3D settings will always show properly this way.

Like I said in this post or Lords of Fallen... The 3D driver gets confused in both games different engines, same DRM. I expect since the DRM is constantly re-arranging memory maps the driver gets confused or something... Another thing I noticed is if I start the game with 3D Mode and quickly disable it and try to play the game as soon as I quick travel to a diff location on the map the game crashes to desktop without warning. If I disable 3D in NVpanel so the 3d driver doesn't hook the game I can play for hours;)) For reference: This is BEFORE the today's patch!

Same result for me. Very frustrating. I don't buy many AAA games but this one I really looked forward to. I did find that if you add the game to the Lords of the Fallen profile (ironically) it has less rendering issues, but it must still be run in non-SLI mode, and 3DMigoto will need a fair few decompiler updates as only about 25% of the shaders get decompiled correctly. The problem is that it is so uncertain if this game *can* be fixed that's it's too risky to put any effort into 3DMigoto at this stage, in case it's all a waste of time. Similarly, I am currently very frustrated with Lords of the Fallen as well, because that fix looks stellar (in my own humble opinion :-) but none of it matters when the driver randomly disables the 3D during the game, or when loading certain areas - so right now that was a heap load of effort (both myself and Helifax have done a large amount of debugging and investigation) with a very unsatisfactory end result.

EA talks about a hotfix and a temporary solution using a commandline in the game short cut as it relates to shaders http://answers.ea.com/t5/Dragon-Age-Inquisition/Patch-2-Graphics-Work-Around-TESTED/m-p/4101233#U4101233 I don't own the game and I was thinking about buying Lords of the Fallen, but from what I have been reading, all kinds of issues in 3D. Anyway, I thought I share the above link in case this helps any of you who own the game and since the posts mentions problems related to shaders, I thought this might help testing the 3D part.

This is one I'm keen to play in 3D, but perhaps it's worth putting work on hold for a while, and see if there are any improvements? We're likely to see new drivers, game patches, and a crack down the line. It may be worth adopting a "wait and see" policy for all games that launch with significant issues like this, as there's been quite a few lately. AC: Unity, LoTF, Dragon Age, Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4 (to a lesser extent, I hear it has some SLI issues). The only recent big games I can think of that were fairly solid from the start are Alien Isolation and Shadow of Mordor, both of which you seemed to make fairly steady progress on. There's no point you guys wasting your time with games that are this problematic to even run in 3D.

(that more than 1 week of work technically). So I decided to disable 3D Vision in NVPanel (otherwise the game just crashes randomly) and play the game in good old 2D fashion;)) Good thing is that at least Surround is working properly;)). If this will be patched? Less likely that nvidia will do something about the 3d driver to work with the game (but who knows). Personally, I am waiting for a crack to see if that will fix stuff like the 3d rendering...but who knows...
