These days we are seeing a new “3D Vision is dead/Nvidia has abandoned 3D Vision/We are all doomed”-thread nearly every single day.
I just wanted to take the opportunity to tell the community that in my eyes 3D Vision currently is totally running wild…thanks to our beloved 3D wizards!
Right now I am really struggling deciding what to play next. Never did I have so many options for playing great 3D Vision optimized titles at the same time (optimized not by you Nvidia but by this great community here).
And I am not speaking of my huge backlog where I have games like Splinter Cell – Blacklist, Metro Last Light or Dead Space 3 waiting on my shelf - still untouched. I just need to look at those games that were released since the end of 2014.
Now that DarkStarSword fixed Lichdom – Battlemage it seems Pandora’s box that is Cry Engine 3 has been opened (in a positive way) and now even more options seem to appear (Ryse – one of my alltime favourites is already waiting on my shelf to be relived again in glorious 3D, Crysis 3 too)
I am gaming in 3D Vision for nearly 6 years now and I have always been amazed by this community and our 3D wizards in particular. When I compare today’s situation (where everyone is complaining about 3D Vision being dead) with the situation before I come to a quite different conclusion. The most important part about the community today which really separates it from the community some years ago is the networking aspect. Never before has this community worked together in such an efficient way as we see it today.
A shining or should I say the perfect example for this would be the Witcher 3-fix to which so many (not only our 3D prophets but also those who helped in bug-finding and testing) contributed.
All this considered I can’t share the overly pessimistic view about today’s state of 3D Vision (again, thanks to this community alone)
I would rather say: the future is bright for 3D Vision!

Still dead, because of a lack of offical support and we are just a small group of ppl who use it. And dont forget the VR Stuff, so the is no bright future for 3d Vision.
Deal with it :-)

We have this lack of official support for at least 2 years now maybe for longer (and this was also the time when those "3D Vision is dead"-threads began to emerge).
But has it led to fewer titles playable in 3D Vision ultimately? Has it led to a dying community? Has it even led to 3D-fixes that can't compare to the older fixes quality-wise due to lack of official support?
I say NO, IT HAS NOT!

I'm pretty sure you all know my view on whether it's dead or not. :->
But in the interest of learning new things- what do you think 3D Vision is missing today? Why does official support matter?

Official support matters for the global community, those stereoscopic gamers that have no idea that local community fixes are available.
Also, with Official support, developers could "theoretically" be coached to fine tune the performance and compatibility of their games. Since 3D demands more resources to get acceptable FPS.

Absolutely no need for a discussion here! The fact that those "3D Vision is dead because of lacking official support"-threads first appeared several years ago combined with the current healthy state of this community and its "3D-Vision-fix"-output (quality- as well as quantitywise) renders every discussion unneccessary because the situation totally speaks for itself.
Everyone who says that 3D Vision is dead MUST have a bad taste in his mouth because he states something while at the same time facing quite the opposite!

As far as I'm concerned, the doomsayers have one point: The drivers are getting worse and worse. So there is going to be a point, if this continues, when you buy a new GPU and there's not going to be an acceptable driver you can roll back too. That's the problem with this slope Nvidia is on.

Poor/no support from devs and NVidia, a very small user base almost 100% reliant on community fixes, problems like the ROG SWIFT and SLI compatibility, "supported" games like GTA5 (LOL!!!!!) tell me NVidia 3D is in a lot worse shape than it was even 12 months ago.
It's frustrating enough that I've given up on 3D for now, and I can't see it being a big factor in my future hardware purchases.
Its awesome when it works, but it doesn't work often enough, so I now have two monitors, one for 3D which is ironically the ROG SWIFT, and one for everything else (Acer 4k). Since buying the Acer 4k I've barely gone back to 3D, and when I do its to try games that are just broken. Far Cry 4 and GTA5 just won't work, or aren't stable enough to be playable for long enough periods of time. Its not worth my time and frustration to try and make the games work in 3D, and pisses me off enough that I just end up not playing them at all.
Nvidia 3D is in a pretty desperate state for newer titles and drivers. I'm stuck with SLI Titan X's and the ROG SWIFT, for 2D I'm on top of the world but in 3D Vision terms it's laughable.
For someone new to it and wants to go through a backlog of games it's fantastic, for the next year it will be awesome, but for the rest of us it's a different story.
We can make "ITS NOT DEAD" threads every day if we want, but it changes nothing. It's dying, and for corporate purposes its pretty much a zombie. It's a shame because I would love nothing more than for 3D Vision to be supported everywhere - but once again NVidia's love for licencing and proprietary tech has shot itself in the foot.

Sorry, but as much as I love 3D Vision, I'm in this camp. It's fantastic that people on these forums are able to patch games to be compatible 'n' all, but ultimately if Nvidia no longer wants to support it, there will be NO titles working out of the box anymore, and soon there won't be any hardware available to use it even if we wanted to. If 3D Vision becomes (officially) legacy hardware, will manufacturers continue to build support into their monitors? What happens when my glasses finally go on the fritz? Will I be able to buy a new pair? These are the things I worry about.

I feel pretty much the same as Foulplay99 above me and i think im ready to say goodbye to 3d vision. I also feel pretty ashamed that i never learnt how to do fixes, community gave so much to me while i gave nothing back. Well i did bo3bs lessons and studied few fixes but effor put into it was minimal and lazy. Sorry.

Pff... 3D Vision ALIVE??? Where??? Did you miss out on all the drivers from the past few+ months?
(I AM NOT TAKING ABOUT THE FANTASTIC MODDERS SUPPORT HERE BUT OFFICIAL NVIDIA SUPPORT)
They broke and broke the 3D Vision driver over and over again... Not to mention not fixing issues that are there for like 1 year ago...
3D Vision Automatic is END OF THE LINE!!! Look at GTAV... (Crashes over crashes and 2D/3D switch issues and so on...)
The only 3D Vision that exists today is Compatibility Mode.... Funny as I can play non stop all the games in Compat Mode without issues.. but once I enable proper 3D Vision Automatic... crashes or CTD or renders in different weird modes or even in 2D...
(Lords of the Fallen, DA:I, RE5, Witcher 2, Witcher 3, GTAV)
Sure, nvidia will fix the drivers to avoid blue screens, GSYNC LED crap issues (I couldn't care less about the freaking LED ON), etc, etc... Will they fix the 3D Vision Automatic driver to work PROPERLY ??? NOPE...
I'm really sad that I must give you this news (if you didn't already figured it out)... but with Win10 around the corner, 3D Vision Automatic is D.E.A.D :(
I still think we should create OUR OWN 3D VISION AUTOMATIC MODE if we still want to use 3D Vision... Relying on 3D Vision Automatic from the NV driver is PURE CRAP.... as we can see lately in HUGE amounts...
Really sad and I really wish they would pick it up back...but... I don't think is gonna happen....
Which tells me one thing... TO AVOID the VR implementation from Nvidia as well in the future....
(Now I'll go and poke one of my eyes out since WHY THE HELL NOT... I DON't NEED IT ANYWAY since everything is still 2D)
As much as I love 3D Vision... I don't think things will improve if we don't take things in our own hands...
