Ah yes CSS. I have been waiting for a shooter to pull me away from CSS but to date it has not happened and I am almost expecting it not to. No potentially competitive online shooter has come out since CSS that has the precision that CSS has. They all now have inaccurate soft or sloppy controls. Why? Because of consoles. You can play MW2 on console or keyboard fine but it is just a spraytard fiesta the pinpoint wrist flip accuracy is non-existent … at least comparing it to CSS or Q3A. I hear people say you can be just as good in a shooter with a controller as you can with a mouse. Maybe in halo … in games like CSS no one will ever be able to use a controller and be even remotely competitive with mousers. I used to awp whore a bit aswell, but I am pretty good with any gun. Now, just to be insulting, I only use a deagle. evilsmurfs.hlstatsx.com Check my stats (rank 1 name [CS]BartholomewPSkibbenheimsIII, 80% of the kills are deagle (nearly 20k deagle kills lol) 80% of my kills are headshots.) yes I am bragging lol.

Ahh drinking and buying things. I bought my AW after a Saturday night at the bar lol jack daniels always has good advice for me.
Never really played css actualy but thats not to say im not competative lol.

If you want decent games which are like that but not neseraly new try,

Call of duty 2
Soldier of fourtune double helix

But im personaly all over teamfortress 2 atm lol and have been for ages.... now thats a competative+skillfull game.

But anyway!!! Obone post up your impressions when you get it! and for you getting it in a day!!!! im jelous. Dell is slow as anything.

Hey guys,

I am noticing quite a bit of ghosting in RE5. However, I have been tweaking my convergence etc. with all of my games. I am now a bit lost as to what the original settings were. Can someone post their monitor settings? Brightness, contrast etc? Right now I am running in graphics - game - with overdrive. Brightness is set to 50. Any tips for improving my experience?

p.s - I am running at 100% depth.

Well, as I understand convergence is reset to the default for that profile every time you launch a game. There is a way to save them but I have heard a lot of reports that it doesn’t save.

(I am assuming you use the alienware) As far as brightness goes 50% is what is default and I found the default monitor settings the best for 3D Vision for the most part, however some games would require more or less brightness to make things look right. It is odd that you are getting bad ghosting on RE5 as I got that game and, with all the settings default, it had usually none and when there was some I had to stop and look for it to see it. I believe you can reset to the preset defaults through the monitor menus.

nVidia tries to work with the panel manufacturers to set the monitors defaults up to be the best for 3D Vision. Some games will like changes but the default is SUPPOSED to be the best all around setting.

Also, on ghosting, now that I think about it, the monitor ghosted worse the first few days I had it and now it doesn’t ghost as bad. Almost as if it needed to be broken in.

I've had the Alienware for about a month now. I'll reset everything to factory again. I am probably just so used to the monitor now that I am getting a little bit nitpicky. It's not a big deal. I've bought too many games lately just because I wanted to try them in 3D. Now I have RE5, AVATAR, Mount and Blade and Devil May Cry 4 sitting on my desk. Too many games to play!

I cannot comment on the AW, but having just taken delivery of the Acer i can confirm it as awesome for 3d gaming. No ghosting and fantastic visuals. I am delighted with the performance and the 3d gaming experience. Yes it might miss out on USB ports but it is faster then the AW and almost an inch bigger... /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

PS. It is also about £140.00 cheaper.

Well, having read the various comments on the different monitors, it seems the Acer is the way to go for 3D - least ghosting, and it's also more budget friendly. The AW would cost me €499, the Acer can be had for about €340 here (Holland). Although the AW looks a lot better, and I do like the stylish buttons and USB hub and all, I have no need for the swivel and height adjustment, and didn't think the better looks justify the extra €160.

I short: I ordered the Acer GD245HQ today - my birthday present for me. I've yet to see 3D vision at work, but it looks promising, and I'm curious to see how the different games will look in true 3D. It's already been shipped, so should arrive in one or two days; I'll be sure to write a little review of it as I get it.

Hopefully my trusty watercooled 8800GTX's in SLI are up to the task. /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' />

My Acer monitor and nVidia 3d kit has arrived, but i haven't finished testing yet.. So It could be a while before a post my review, initial thoughts are this monitor is not for me in terms of a primary display, but like I said I haven't finished testing yet.

I got a chance to sit down at a buddy of mines house who got the Acer and help him set it up. (I have the So now, having sat down with them both, worked on tweaking them both, and having played on them both.

For the most part the monitors are pretty close across the board. What I have found it is as many other people who have put them side by side have claimed. The Acer ghosts just a bit less, a tiny tiny bit, and unless your sensitive to ghosting and play games looking for ghosting rather than actually playing the game you wont notice it on either monitorm, but the acer does ghost less.

In terms for 2D gaming, movies, websites, pretty much anything that isn't 3D. I felt the alienware was a clear winner. Not that the acer was bad at any of these categories, but the alienware displays a better picture in terms of brightness and color quality.

I would say if you want your 3D monitor to also be your primary display then the AW is the way to go, but in the end they are still both good displays.AW)

I haven't seen the AW, but find the price gap too big. The minor points at which the AW seems to be better (looks, 2D) hardly make up for the 47% extra on the Acer's price (at least that is the difference here in Holland), let alone the fact that the cheaper Acer seems to ghost less.

Anyway, like I said, I haven't seen the AW. I have seen the Acer though, mine arrived today. I posted my findings here. /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' />

Price difference wasn't as big for me here in the States.

AW is $500 Acer is $400. Also, when I purchased my AW the Acer was not available yet ... however it became available literally the day my AW hit my desk.

That being said, as I have stated above in my comparison, you will be happy with the Acer regardless. Just because I like the AW a little better and found it to be a little better on some points should not in any way indicate that the Acer isn't a good display too. It is a great display. You will love it.

Showing once again Dell's pricing is rediculous. Here in the Netherlands, they put the AW on sale for €500, whereas the Acer is available for €340 (note: this includes 19% sales tax).

Ouch that almost seems like it should be illegal. How do they justify an increased cost. The cost may increase a bit in relation to doing business and taxes overseas and whatnot I don't know really, but it seems to me that for the most part its cost should be based on a simple conversion based on usd to €.

Like I said though, I don't know much about international business practices outside of an international marketing class I took in college ... 3 years ago.

HELP !!

I'm basically a pretty resourceful guy, and if didn't need it, I wouldn't ask..

- What's the best set up for this Acer GD245HQ regarding type. It's so bad I had to check I had clear type on in windows.

- What's the best set up regarding colour/contrast/brightness for 2D. I've been through various monitor calibration tools, but the colour still looks faded/bleached out.

- How do I get 60+ hertz for 2D, I've tried setting it in NVCP and in W7, but it always either swithes the monitors signal [so it says no input], or gives me a very blury image that I haven't tested but looks like it should be 3D.

Why don't things ever just work !!!

I realize now I may have been spoilt by the old Syncmaster 245B, I guess I was expecting something within the range of that 3 year old monitor for 2D, + 3D/120 Hertz as an added bonus, unless you guys can help me I think I may have been gravely mistaken.

At the moment it's looking like I'll be RMAing this kit as while the 3D works great [when the games optimized for it], the 2D performance is very poor.

I hope I don't come over as a moaning moron, it's just I was expecting so much from this, so the disapointment doubley painful.

Thanks in advance for any assistance :).
