SBS and TopDown weren't automatically detected on TV's before 2011, that methods work well and at maximum fps possible on any tv (active and passive)...So it's no more an excuse.
I'm not interesting in other brands 3d-SW, but I won't buy either Nvidia 3dTV until they'll support that way of rendering!

I noticed the same, that's because i purchase 3DTV Play.....but if you try Trine 2 in 1080p/60 SBS or Topt/Botton (game option) look amazing!!....so i thing the implementation on tridef is not good. Indeed i believe TOP/Down is better than SBS. It's so mainly for passive non FULL-3d interlieved TVs.
In this case you'll render only 1980x1080 pixel, and obtain full horizontal resolution and Full vertical 1080px (540left+540right X-eyes), and the interpolation of the vertical stretching do the job!
SO TOP/DOWN MEANS: LESS WORK ON THE GPU, MAX FRAMES AND BEST QUALITY REACHABLE ON THIS KIND OF MONITORs!

I would much rather have my 120" projection screen than go back to a 21" monitor and only want Nvidia to support the industry standards. It's been over 2 years since they released 3DTV Play and it's LONG overdue for an update.

In this case you'll render only 1980x1080 pixel, and obtain full horizontal resolution and Full vertical 1080px (540left+540right X-eyes), and the interpolation of the vertical stretching do the job!
SO TOP/DOWN MEANS: LESS WORK ON THE GPU, MAX FRAMES AND BEST QUALITY REACHABLE ON THIS KIND OF MONITORs!
In the case of SBS you'll have orizontal interpolation + loosing half of the pixels in vertical lines due to interleaving. (For FULL HD3d Passive TV it's not so)
