I'm still playing on my old 8800GTX (great card btw), but thought it might be a good time to set up a new rig.
I'm using the samsung syncmaster2233 for 3D-vision and would like to play in the native resolution (1680*1050) with most effects turned on (don't have to have AA);
Is the GTX460 fast enough to get 60fps with these settings or do I have to take a GTX480 (which is more expensive and louder)? [I don't plan to go SLI]

Yes if you can afford it the single 480 will undoubtedly be faster than a single 460, but as others stated, if you can run SLI, 2x460 1GB will probably be the better option in 3D for roughly the same price as a single 480. As was mentioned, two 460s in SLI are cheaper than a single 480 but will run about 15% faster. Since the 460s can only go 2x max in SLI, it comes down to if you'd want to later upgrade a single 480 with another 480, or if you'd just be content with the 460s for a while and then upgrade with the next gen of vid cards down the line.

I have a GTX 295 (Paid it only 210€ for a 6month old card used under 3 years warrantie)
the GTX 295 is cheap now, and its still the 2nd powerfull Nvidia Card avaible and the 3nd better video card all brand...
The GTX 295 is an SLI of GTX 260+ in one card.

maybe I'm wrong but I thought that if you were using 3d the 480 would beat 460 sli. Isn't 3d 3840x2160 instead of 1920x1080. If so according to the reviews then a 480 would handle it better due to its increased vram.

If you look at the highest resolution they test, then although the average framerate is higher for the 460's the minimum framerate crown belongs to the single 480 card. Basically if you increase the resolution then it seems to go more towards the 480, but you need to be running at 2560x1600+ for this to work.
