Confirm I'm 3D Ready?
Hey all,

I've had a look around and can't quite find the exact answer as to whether or not my setup is 3D ready for gameplay (specifically, I intend to be playing Diablo 3).

My Notebook specifications are as follows:

Notebook: Sager/Clevo 15"
Display: 1920 x 1080 (60Hz)
Video Card: GTX 560M (Updated to 296.10)
CPU: I7 2720QM

This is currently connected via HDMI to the following HDTV screen:

Screen: Samsung UA32D6000 (1920 x 1080 @ 100Hz)
Glasses: Samsung, came with TV unit.

I have run the 'Test Stereoscopic 3D' option in the nvidia control panel, which lets me know that I must run the screen in 1920 x 1080 @ 24Hz in order to view in 3D. The test then runs well in 3D.

A couple of questions, however.

1) Am I good to go in terms of 3D gaming? My screen doesn't appear on the list of 'approved' screens on the nVidia website, yet it displays the 3D test just fine.

2) If not, what do I need to do/update/purchase? Do I need a 3D vision controller?

Edit: Do I need to purchase 3DTV play? Or is this covered by the GPU & driver upgrade?

Any help/information would be greatly appreciated from anybody in the know.

Cheers

You just need 3DTV Play. It has a 14-day free trial. You will be gaming in 720p 60 3D. You will be watching 3D Blu-Ray in 1080p 24. It is awesome.

Make sure your Control Panel "Stereoscopic" is enabled and the 3DTV Play logo is visible. (You can leave your desktop resolution at 1080p 60)...When you start a game set the in-game to 720p and it will go into 3D!

When you exit games your desktop will be 1080p 60 as usual...Its works great.

You got the wrong TV. In 2011, samsung abandoned 1920x1080 /60 checkerboard mode in all but the xxD7000 and xxD8000 TVs. Had you gotten one of these instead of the xxD6000, you could have gamed in glorious 1920x1080/60 native res via 3D Vision. As it is, you are doomed to 3DTV Play with it's ugly low res scaled 1280x720, and worse, framepacking mode, a mode which is optimized for broadcast video and undesireable for PC Graphics. If possible, swap your TV for a 3D Vision capable Samsung or Mitsubishi.
Hopefully the unaware will see your post and not make the same mistake.

Roller,

Thanks for that. The whole 3D gaming thing was really just an afterthought for me. The UA32D6000 has been awesome up until now, but 3D gaming might just have to wait.

For me, gaming in 2D @ 1080 > 3D @ 720.
