pjd6220 3d not working with 3d vision
Hi,

I have just received a pjd6220 and I can't get it working correctly.
My 3d vision works 100% with my samsung 120hz lcd.

I've been trying for a few hours, changing drivers etc.

The Projector just will not sync to a 1024 x 768 output at 120hz in 3d or 2d in windows or in games.

I managed to get GTA 4 working but only at 800 x 600 resolution but there was a bad blue ghosting to the image.
The Nvidia 3d setup demo seems to work ok which is weird.

I know a couple of other people here have had some similar problems like this and there was a mention of a firmware update for the projector. Is there any news on this?

As it stands, I would definately say that these products are not working properly together.

Any help would be much appreciated but I would have to say, I really think the viewsonic projector needs to go home and I will need to be reunited with my cash.

Cheers all,
Mark

I've got the pjd-6220-3d working fine, mostly. No firmware update necessary, 1.09 nvidia 3d drivers.

I use a dvi->sub-d 15-pin converter -> ~10 ft monitor cable.

After the 'startup sound' (windows vista) where the login screen should appear, I have to hit the "source" button on the pjd-6220 remote to get the projector to sync to the signal (projector reports 120.03 hz)- does psychedelic rainbow vomit while coming to, but then locks on fine.

I have the projector configured in the nvidia 3d-setup control panel as a 'generic crt' @ 120 hz, 1024 x 768.

For whatever reason, the control panel occasionally 'resets' & defaults from 'generic crt' back to 'anaglyph' mode- which may explain the ghosting you've seen?..

I'd recheck your settings and perhaps try a different cable length.

Perhaps also try setting the resolution in your apps/games to 1024 x 768 via your other monitor- then switch monitor assignments.

Thanks for your reply.
It sounds promising at least that someone here has it working ok.

I did try a couple of different cables, including the one that came with it.
I'm using 2 x GTX295 (yep, bought them before reading that 3d vision does not work in quad sli!)
So tonight, i'll pull one of the cards out and reinstall windows again.

The ghosting def wasn't anaglyph mode. Noticed it in GTA4 in 800x600 at 100hz but only in the right eye.
Apart from that, the 3d looked ok.

What was strange though was that adjusting the depth on the wheel of the IR transmitter made the projector re-sync each time i adjusted it.

Do you have "3d sync" turned on in the proj menu?

Well, after a good few more hours testing last night and this morning, I have come to the conclusion that either this projector is faulty or it is not 100% "3d ready"

I did a fresh install of windows. Installed latest 3d drivers. Went through the 3d vision setup and all seemed ok.
Windows worked at 120hz although there was about a 30% reduction in brighness and text was not sharp.
Knock it doen to 85hz and it's nice and bright and text is sharp.

I loaded 3d photo viewer and loaded up a 1024 x 768 image.
Viewed the photo and it appeared ok in 3d.
Then I went to "scale to fit" and went to view the image.....projector would not sync.

Loaded up a few games and set them to run at 1024 x 768 120hz.....projector would not sync.

Formatted HDD, installed windows 7 and got exactly the same thing.

I have to say, unless viewsonic come back to me today with an extremely good answer containing a fix for this then this projector is being returned.

On this note, this has made me even more determined to get a 3d projector working and I'm considering the depthq HD one.
Only thing is that it's mega expensive and I don't want to risk it having the same issues as the viewsonic pjd6220.

Has anyone here had any experience with the depthq and 3dvision? Or know of any other xga or better projector that works ok?

Cheers,

ive read depthq was being adopted by research labs at universities, so that must say something for the quality. As of the moment those are your only options.

You know, ive read alot of articles about how 3d vision is so great and everything branded 3d ready is supposed to be turnkey, but now that i actually have it, suddenly i see thats its a beta product at best.

I am exceptionally disappointed in this PJ.

Big thumbs down.

DO NOT BUY!

Not to mention they sent the box with NO UPC CODE and then tell me Im basically out of luck on the rebate. This PJ is just a pj6220 with a firmware hack to allow 120hz and at that it rarely gets the 1024x768 signal if ever on any games I try.

NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS!

-Blue Ghosting!
-Different Color values per eye
-AND MOST ANNOYING, Cant get a XGA signal 90% of the time and Ive TRIED different cables!
-EVEN MORE ANNOYING!!!! ZERO CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!

My suggestion? If you like 3D, boycott this POS.

My old Edim with BenQ PJ blew this setup out of the water with rarely a problem to be seen.

WOW Nvidia, you allowed them to have a 3D ready sticker? You endorse products that DONT WORK AS STATED? Crap like this will help bury 3D for another 10 years.

SHAME ON YOU VIEWSONIC!! Support your PRODUCT! AND GIVE ME MY DARN REBATE.

IM PEEVED CAN YOU TELL!?! Really choked that i was suckered into buying this prototype instead of a real product.

Losing faith in 3D.....

Thanks for chipping in damienlabonte....I knew you had one of these projectors and have been trailing your threads here and on mtbs to try and see how you were getting on.
Mine has been sent back, highly unimpressed and here's why.

- The PJD62203d will only produce a 3d image IF you can get it to sync at 120hz.
Only on two or three occasion could i get it to sync after a fresh install of windows, ONLY using the supplied 3ft cable, ONLY after messing with bespoke resolutions.

- When the projector DOES sync at 120hz the image is soft and dull in 2d and blue ghosting in one eye spoilt the 3d effect.

- Even when NOT in 3d mode I noticed very bad "rainbowing" effect. This is hard to describe but every time you blink you see it and it's not nice...reminded me of being back at college and going to music festivals a long time ago.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 3dvision product which works stunningly well on the samsung 22" LCD But now i'm trying to work out what the best solution for a big screen 3d system is going to be. Here in the UK DLP tv's 3d ready are non-existant plus I really wanted a bigger screen size.

I've been looking at all other options and the depthq HD seems like the only one that could potentially do the trick but the price tag might just be grounds for Mrs "why can't you be happy with 22 inches" to start the divorce proceedings.

I've read a lot about passive rigs but I just don't have the time/room/energy to do it.
Also 85hz DLP projectors but concerned about flicker and/or lack of nvidia driver support and DIY parts required to make it work.
My only hope is future developments.....I spoke to optoma who said they will have a 3d ready projector ready early next year but could not give me any more info. What if they use the same tech as the viewsonic and I end up all dissapointed again?

Viewsonic answered my emails but offered no real help. The 3d ready sticker on my unit does not look like an Nvidia 3d ready sticker but then Nvidia do state it is a supported product in their compatible products. I just can't see how they or nvidia tested it and gave it the thumbs up.

So....my message to anyone who has suddenly been seduced by 3d vision on a small screen and looking to increase the screen size...this product is not yet the answer...Sorry.

As detailed in this thread, i am told that Viewsonic and Nvidia are working on either a firmwire update for the PJ and/or driver updates ?
