Quickest way for 3DTV on Win10 needed... Win7 the answer?
1 / 2
Hi guys!
Ran F1 2012 years back on a GTX670M ASUS Windows 7 laptop with 3DTV installed and loved it despite the 720P res.
Years later - as in now - I thought I'd get a rig assembled again and got myself an ASUS ROG 1080 stationary running Windows 10 and hooked it up to my old Epson 3D projector to run F1 2018. Well, you would know beforehand what was inevitably bound to happen. Nothing.
After searching on here I am a little wiser but count myself as a computer illiterate compared to the knowledge on this board.
Questions:
1) Can I install 3D Vision to enable 3DTV?
2) Would that mean buying all hardware - IR transmitter, glasses and screen to install successfully?
3) After installing would I be able to jump straight to 3DTV as it used to be and run my projector with its own glasses as I had it all those years back?
4) I have another older ASUS laptop with a GTX 540M card, also with 3DTV preinstalled. The screen is broken so I'm pondering taking the drive out and install it into the new stationary ASUS. OK, booting from this drive it might crash a few times trying to work out what's going on but after installing the odd driver, could this be the cheapest most efficient workaround to get 3D back?
I have no 4K capability, nor do I really wish for more than the 720P that I used to run. It worked fine.
Below is hopefully a pic...

Hi Jessun, welcome back!
Im not sure about F1 2018, whether a fix has been made for it yet? Some of the virtual speed junkies might advice you here...
I only have 3 racing games installed of which this aint one.
Nice setup you've got there!
Chances are that you might have access to a trail period of 3DTV play.
So just activate Stereoscopic 3D in the nVidia control panel and see where the setup wizard takes you.
Right click desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel > Set up Stereoscpic 3D
But as far as I know the license for 3DTV Play is limited to one PC only. (some one correct me if I'm wrong) Which means you might be better off buying the whole kit granting freedom to use on other setups. Otherwise just get a license when it expires.
What Epson are you using?

I have a 3DTV trial running but it always asks me to run through the 3D Vision setup which is a fail for me. In the NVIDEA window like you show above, the whole 'Stereoscopic 3D display type:' and logo is simply missing...
Any ideas welcome from the learned :-)
I have an Epson EH-TW6000W.

Why is it failing?
As soon as you pass the wizard it should work.
Otherwise, TsaebehT shared this a while ago and I haven't tried it yet, but rename attached file extension to .vbs
So that it shows: QuickEnable3D.vbs
Run it and see what happens.
Ok file doesn't want to attach.

Yeah that's wierd, because they are separate products.
I've always had 3d tv play as an option because I already have the emitter (which acts as a hardware licensing dongle) but you've always been able to purchase 3dtv play on it's own, so it sounds like something's wrong with your installation/drivers if it's forcing you to go through the 3d vision setup.
Is the projector hdmi 1.4a/3d compatible? Sounds like it's not being picked up as a 3d compatible display.
*edit* just looked it up and it should be ok with that projector.
Also, in answer to your other question, I don't see that you have anything to lose from trying the old drive. Windows might work and install all the right drivers after a couple of reboots. If it's an OEM license it will probably be hard to activate it. Not sure how the 3dtv play drivers will cope either.

Reading the fine print I found a note that an IR transmitter is needed to activate the software. It seems to run only as an 'upgrade' to 3D vision and can't be installed alone, unless of course pre-installed on a laptop that by which some fee is probably included in the purchase price.
I went for a transmitter off eBay. Hopefully it will unlock the setup wizard.
I chucked the old HDD into the hotswap bay but it was never recognized. I'll look into that aswell in BIOS and Win10.
The projector and HDMI cable is the one I used to run so I should be fine.
Thanks for all replies and giving this your time!

Good luck, if you get an emitter you shouldn't have a problem. Like I said above, the emitter is also used as a hardware dongle - i.e. a hardware based key to activate the license for 3dtvplay.
You always used to be able to use 3dtv play separately, so I think something else is wrong there. If you have an active trial and the software is installed properly, 3dtv play should be an option as long as you have a full hdmi 1.4a path from the card to the display.
There are also ways to 'trick' the driver into activating 3d without using the wizard. Anyway, hope the emitter sorts it!

Both my Asus laptops might have paid the hardware fee to have this installed. Since a few years it seems to have become a standalone product. Nvideas online info says that a transmitter is needed. Not a 3D screen or projector.
It's a shame the tech isn't simply released free once they're moving away from it...

Nvidia is pretty much the only company supporting 3D to this day.
Had to get a 2016 LG 3D TV earlier this year.
It was pretty crap for games as I get a LOT of ghosting at those kind of screen separation.
I can't even find a single sweetspot where the ghosting completely disappears.
My ASUS VG278H comes to the rescue and I think I managed to get 3DTV Play going on it once.
Right now it's sitting besides me turned off and providing a 3DTV Play capability.
You should be able to play a blu-ray using hdmi without 3DTV Play. It works for me.
Without 3DTV Play you are pretty much limited to blu-ray which I guess you can't get to work on a laptop.

What more can you ask for?
The protocol of the emitter has been found out years ago. There is also an emulator for the 3D Vision emitter. Dunno if it still works. But hence it's illegal, so i won't post links. Besides I think the emitter with it's hw-buttons is quite useful, and if you want to go with 3D Vision and don't got a proper Monitor it's even required. It's also easier to handle once you reinstall OS, move to another PC etc. But - I don't know if you already got the emitter, so it might be worth a try if you can't wait. (or not yet even ordered the emitter and simply want to try). Guess that's the fastest way.
Besides - I think the Option 4) would not work, due to the Laptop being one of these models with integrated controller, so taking the drive out would not help at all if that's the case. (at least I don't see 3DTV Play License only being included with the laptop)

Finally got it all up and running! Thanks for the responses.
I ended up connecting the IR emitter just for the setup Wizard, and 3DTV also installed just fine.
The latest drivers support F1 2018 but it still looks horrible sadly.... Not at all like what I remember of F1 2012 years ago...
More tinkering needed.
Nice to see that you got it up and running finally.
You should have the ability to run F1 2012 again with good 3D.
F1 2018 probably needs some kind of fix.
Tack mannen! (Thanks man)
I had some guys over to run the rig and one comment hit home. '3D looks way better back here' as he stood some 3m behind the seat in the garage. In terms of 3D I think I'm overcooking it being too close to a large screen. That's probably not what the drivers etc were ever written for. The visual angle is like having a 40" laptop screen...
I'm gonna move the seat back for now to find a better sweet spot and I'll have to live with a degree of tunnel vision...
I think I can make the game look good now (in 3d). Even with shadows set to ultra-low there are still some odd artefacts after 1.09 that cause black blocks to fill areas, but hopefully this can be dealt with by the devs.
