I'd love to make the jump to 3d, but I'm frustrated by the 1080p 30fps/720p 60fps limitation. The Asus VG278H isn't gonna cut it for epic movie watching. There's no good reason why a 40-50" Samsung can't do 1080p as 60fps+.
What's the problem? Is it really an HDMI limitation? What needs to happen to overcome it?
I've been an Nvidia fan for a long time, but I'll gladly switch to AMD if they beat Nvidia to market with proper 3D HDTV support.

I may just wait for the Oculus Rift, and buy whatever hardware best supports it.

Certain displays can do 1080P interlaced @ 60hz. The occulus rift, is actually the lowest resolution display. Its almost half the resolution of 720p 3D (its 640/800 Per Eye).

I'd like a 1920x1200 120Hz monitor, but manufacturers haven't made one yet even though it's within the DVI specification.

Im not knocking it because of resolution, just saying since you were looking for a high res display. I will always go towards immersion rather then resolution. I use a 720p projector and just use AA + injectors, now adays its really not a big deal to go lower resolution(imo). I actually own the most popular 3D monitor and its a dust collector for me.

Which begs the question, why aren't there any affordable 3d TVs or projectors with dual link DVI?
People seem to think that once we get HDMI2.0 (supposedly by June 30, 2013) we can do full framerate/full resolution 3D gaming. Thing is, having insufficient bandwidth is not the problem with HDMI1.4, it's the EDIDs that are supported under the spec. If the VESA committee continues to ignore the only mode suitable for 3D gaming (frame sequential mode at 1920x1080, 60 Hz per eye), the extra bandwidth of HDMI2.0 will be useless for 3D gaming.
I predict that nothing will change for 3D gaming when 3DTVs are upgraded to HDMI2.0.
