Future Drivers will only initially be available via GeForce Experience

"Starting with a December update to GeForce Experience, NVIDIA will be overhauling how they distribute their driver updates. The company currently posts new drivers on a regular basis to their website while also simultaneously pushing them out via GeForce Experience. Come December, that will be changing and GeForce Experience will be the preferred “first access” distribution mechanism for NVIDIA’s frequent driver updates.
This change comes on the heels of NVIDIA’s latest research, which finds that 90% of all driver updates are now distributed through GeForce Experience. At this point NVIDIA is not discussing the change in great detail – and most likely they’re still sorting out the finer details of what they want to do – but the basic idea is to fully exploit the push update mechanism of GeForce Experience while drawing users into what will in time become a larger NVIDIA ecosystem. GeForce Experience will be used to distribute the company’s regular “point release” driver updates that the company frequently releases and typically contain bug fixes and performance improvements for gamers – in other words the drivers most gamers will want to be on. Meanwhile NVIDIA will still post drivers to their website (and by extension Windows Update), but on a reduced quarterly cadence."
"The change in driver distribution will be accompanied by a yet to be fully detailed registration system where NVIDIA will be asking users to register their email addresses with GeForce Experience."

Well i'm stuck with 350.12 driver and not scared at all of the quarterly updates.
I've got all the nVidia executables firewalled, because even disabled the update and stream functions for some reason are still flooding my internet connection

i will stick with the quarterly updates + DDU
Very very very very stupid decision...
Updating through GFE and/or windows always ends in a totally fucked installation. That's why exist DDU, because even the uninstall process of the nvidia driver using Windows Control Panel sucks and fail !!

I can't see no reason why you will not be able to use DDU.
Just use DDU purge everything, install GFE and the driver.
What they are doing is actually the smart MOVE and what I've been saying all along:
- Instead of month after month new drivers for each new major game release they should just release a couple of drivers per year to address DRIVER issues and all game profiles should be downloaded through GFE!
I think is actually a smart move;) and the correct one;) Now how they will implement it...remains to be seen;)

i suppose GFE will be the permanent software, with that software nvidia will automatic update everything. If i use DDU i will remove GFE, how can i update if the GFE is removed? i will have to wait the quarterly updates (that also i suppose will include GFE updates)
i suppose i will need GFE at least installed to update....and that automatic update through GFE is the one that don't work. maybe profile updates will work fine, but drivers..and 3Dvision/3DTV Play drivers part....uffff

I consider the GeForce Experience to be bloat ware.
I do not use "GFE Share" formerly known as Shadow Play.
I do not own or plan on getting a Shield.
I'll never use Nvidia's new "Geforce Now" gaming service.
I do not use their GPU Logo lighting feature.
Also, I do not need Nvidia to configure game settings for me.
(Keep in mind that Nvidia's GeForce Experience is aimed at 2D Gaming)
Maybe I'm tainted because I tried GFE during it's Beta and at launch and never had a good experience with it. Perhaps it has gotten better. But better or not, there are still plenty of new threads in the sub forum with people having problems.

I never install/use GFE but it's been my understanding that it interferes with using GeForce 3D Profile manager and possibly NVIDIA Inspector by messing up the Profiles/Drs? And if you can't use GF3DPM/NI you can't 'set' a lot of the more advanced settings of 3D Vision ... https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/836462/

That is true;) There is however a workaround;))
- delete the nvselector.bin (like stated).
- Export and import
- Re-install GFE (to add all the other crap in the bin files).
I am using GFE on my laptop so I can use the battery boost option/feature;) Except for that, Share/ShadowPlay I used very rare;)
Overall I didn't have any problems with it. (Just annoyances) ;)

I'm sure they'll find a way to screw that up ... probably make it impossible to just install GFE, is it just me or is that awfully close to GFY, NVIDIA GFY. Lol.
On the other hand they could open up and allow us to change and tweak all these wonderful Stereoscopic/3D Vision settings via GFE, putting us back in control and I'd be a happy f'in camper ... :)
