I dont remember seeing anything about max payne 3 3d. They pushed back pc release to "add more features" though which could mean anything.

I just installed the latest driver and in the settings you can see the gsme ratings: Max Payne 3 --? not recommended.
Nvidia claims to be working with developers around the world, but are they?
It's up to the developers to determine if they want to add 3D support to their game or not. Nvidia is not going to overly pester them about it if they aren't interested.

If Nvidia wants 3D vision to be a success, maybe they should participate (=invest money) in gamedevelopment for Triple A games.
OR they should improve the solution so that games automatically render well in 3D.

Max Payne 3 supports 3D explicitly. It does say DX11 3D, which may be a reference to the 3D functionality in DX 11.1. I don't really know how nVidia 3D Vision works with these features especially on DX 11 cards. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in?

There's a limit to what they can do without really large investments, I sat through a presentation on what the cost to implement 3D was in console games recently, it included how many people even try and play in 3D as a statistic.
As a developer, you certainly don't do it for the increased revenue.

Fair enough, I can understand that any company needs to make money. I certainly hope that besides making money there are also people working for the reason: let's make something new and exiting.
I honestly believe that 3D (like in Trine 2 or Hard Reset) could be an amazing future for gaming. So far, I have never EVER had the experience that if showed those games to someone, that particular person said: mmmm, no, not interested in 3D. Seeing is BELIEVING. Anyways, I hope that developers not only think with the wallet in mind, but also with a heart for (3D) gaming. Thats all folks.

Developers don't generally think in terms of dollars (outside a few people who's job it is).
But when you look at a feature and less that 1% of your user base is ever going to see it, when you have to cut something that will make the game better for 100% of the players to make it happen it's a hard decision to make. Whether as a developer you personally find 3D compelling or not (And despite your experiences a number of people are just not sold on the value).
I think the console manufacturers will continue to push it and with the prevalence of 3D TV's increasing you'll see improved adoption in the console space which will push back into the PC Space over time.
NVidia doesn't have the weight or resources to do much more than evangelize it, and do the current half assed auto conversion that we get in most games on the PC.

My theory of nVidia's unwillingness to open up its software is due to it large, multinational organisational heritage, where it has had to compete in a highly competative environment. I think this has forced them to habitually introduce policies to lock down everything in case of idustrial espionage or the like.
