Wow, this is absolutely incredible news. Makes me a little upset that I recently thought "screw it", and decided to play through the whole thing to 100% completion in fake-3d. I'll definitely be checking this out for comparison though. Congratulations to the whole team for this release!
Not to be greedy, but does this mean anything for an AC4 patch? Are the engines/shaders similar enough for this to give a decent head-start?
That platform update, should it be installed on Win8?

Marvelous job guys! Works perfect with The DLC Washington. I'm glad I didn't play the DLC yet :)
So much better than the "compatible 3D", nothing to compare, it's another world!
Your AC3 looks way much better than fake AC4!
I hope this is the good news we all are waiting for long time now... Hope it will work for AC4 Dlc's, watch dogs, The Division...
Thanks

A quick response, with a very large dose of caveat - first indications are that yes the AC3 fix is likely to transfer to AC4, I ran my AC3 fix scripts for shadows in AC4 and it fixed them. That being said right now each game requires specific attention in the wrapper itself while we whittle away at the many special cases of HLSL generation, so there are quite a lot of unknowns, and we are certainly not in a position to say with confidence if a full fix is possible just yet.
Also be aware that Watchdogs is an entirely new engine, so the AC3/4 fix almost certainly won't be relevant - it will be 'back to the drawing board' with that one, if we decide to attempt it.
BTW - thanks for the positive feedback :-)

What about that platform fix?
I actually don't know tbh, bo3b will be better able to answer. I would try the game with the 3Migoto fix, if it crashes, try the platform fix, or Google the KB number to see if it applies to Win8?

Just wanted to share a couple of screens, as a thank you. And as an incentive for other people to try it.

Mike, the shadow I mentioned is definitely the secondary/large weapon. It may disapear if a smaller weapon is equiped, will test. It's definitely a non issue, so don't waste time on it yet.
Also, it just hit me: you are the first guy in this wide miserable world who was ever able to offer a fix to allow for proper 3D cinematics in a Assassin's Creed game. EVER!
All other ACs had severe shadow issues in the cinematics. I just finished AC3 in 2d (could not stand the fake 3D) but your fix made me start the game again!
Congratulations to you sir, and to the whole team behind this 3DMigoto release, on a world's first.

What about that platform fix?
No, KB platform fix should not be necessary for Win8 or 8.1. It sort of makes Win7 match the Win8 DXGI runtime.

When I launch the game AC3SP.exe has stopped working any ideas ?
Hi Zig, sorry to hear that. I don't think we had tried Win8.1 because of the other funny 3D problems with it.
I'll be happy to take a look though. Edit the d3dx.ini file, and we'll add logging, and I might be able to tell.
Change this section like:
[Logging]
; Log all API usage
calls=1
; Log Input key actions
input=1
; Super verbose massive log
debug=1
; Unbuffered logging to avoid missing anything at file end
unbuffered=1
; Force the CPU affinity to use only a single CPU for debugging multi-threaded
force_cpu_affinity=1
Send me all the logs, about 5. email <3dmigoto@bo3b.net>, and if they are too big, we'll use FTP.
OUTSTANDING! Huge thanks to all involved! I bought AC3 a month or two ago and had been holding off playing it in hope of such a fix.
I'll just mention; I did a double take when I saw in the install instructions that the KB2670838 update is required. I have recently been having troubles with fatal memory leaks, which Task Manager showed me was due to a 'dllhost.exe', with the description 'COM surrogate'. A little googling indicated that this issue was related to Internet Explorer 10 (apparently happens with 11 too, which I had installed) and, yep, update KB2670838. See here:

The advice they offer is to uninstall both IE10 and the update KB2670838, and set updates to manual so you can prevent Windows from automatically reinstalling them. I was actually pretty much just about to follow this procedure, but since I need the KB update for this fix I guess I'll just uninstall IE and hope that does the trick.
Just thought I'd mention on the off chance this is relevant to someone else here.
