Theoretically: 35fps*3=105fps at 1920x1080 with two 980Ti (assuming that the GPU load scales linearly), and 105fps/2=52.5fps with a single 980Ti (assuming perfect SLI scaling, so this could be higher). Weird, benchmarks suggest just a bit more fps, but in 2D. If the GTX 1080 is at the end 20% more powerful (hoping for more) than the 980Ti, that could be 63fps in 3D (or 68.25fps if it's 30% better). Do your settings include Hairworks? Sorry for derailing this a bit.

Post Process AA ("blur-effect" disabled). I like a sharper image than a blurred one with AA) No other mods or the likes. (No ENB, etc) or tweaks. All setting selected from the Game Menu. (For surround I had to modify the ini and change the grass radius to stop it FROM poping when I move the camera around. I haven't seen any performance impact.) In 2D Surround (in SLI) I get 70 FPS in 2D. In 3D I get 35-40FPS. Absolute minimum which I was able to "dig" from a MSI Afterburner log was 25FPS (3D Surround again +SLI). SLI never scales LINEAR from Single to Multi-display. Actually you can see SLI working PROPERLY only in Multi-display configs. In SINGLE screen SLI is less efficient. Also don't forget in Single Screen 3D Vision is capped at 60FPS. It is possible you can achieve more with 980TI SLI in Single Screen in 3D Vision, but is capped by the driver. On a single GTX980Ti I get 60FPS and the GPU is loaded most of the times around 95-99%%. Also my card(s) are the OC version with a higher BOOST clock (according to Asus 122% from the reference 980TI design which I overclocked a bit as well. Boost clock is now 1405Mhz.) A good review for these cards: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/09/01/asus_gtx_980_ti_strix_dciii_oc_video_card_review/3#.VwVwvqQrLiI

But now it's almost a year old, and the 970 and 980 are >1.5 years old and remain at the same price (or higher in my country), so I have to endure and "Wait for Pascal"TM out of principle.

Even if I disable VSYNC the 3D Vision driver ALWAYS forces VSYNC ON and the framerate is capped at 60FPS no matter what I do... This is on proper 3D Vision hardware... Are you using something different? I have yet to see a game in 3D Vision that renders at more than 60FPS (and this is 6years experience with 3D Vision...). I am wondering if you don't have something different there.. The 980Ti (Asus Strix OC version) was released LAST year in October/November and provides additional "juice" over the reference one quite by a margin.. so is not an OLD design... Ofc the reference design is older but if you compare the actual hardware of the strix with the reference design you will see it is different (hence the need of a special waterblock for it as well ^_^).

Looking at the prices of current cards, there is no drop in current prices, which means that Pascal cards are not imminent. The prices of older cards always drops right before announcement as they try to get rid of old stock to avoid being stuck with it when the new shiny appears. Might be a bump at the moment from VR buyers though. In any case, I broke down and bought a used 970 as a stop-gap until Pascal, can't wait any more. One thing I think is really weird about their announcements here- why the ginormous die size? 600mm? Crikes! Isn't the entire point of GPUs to be parallel processing? Why are we going with one giant chip, instead of thousands of little and cheap chips? Seems like a real miss to me, especially now that die shrinks aren't going to give us free productivity boosts anymore.

Possibly some news in September... maybe no consumer version until 2017... (Zloth checks his Rift shipping data again) Oh dear. Well, anyone have a VR tic-tac-toe game I can play?
There is also no way these cards are going to be called "1070/1080" imo.
Yeah, they've been through the 1000s already. Now the 100s are done. The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

Well that too but 1080 is a pretty terrible name since people will think of 1080p. ------------- TBH, I think everyone who is under minimum specs for VR are stuck. You pretty much have to. The risk of turning an experience you would otherwise love into a bad experience is pretty high with even some frame drops.

In my opinion, companies should invent the "renovate operation" or something, to let people with best videocards to change to the new model without losing an eye. It is a pity how costly this things are. I can perefectly pay for a 980TI, but I still use my 660TI because I consider all this thing very pathetic. I think I could not enjoy the same knowing how much I paid for something that is only a little part of my rig, just because the market has decided that it must be a very precious jewel. Maybe paying more than 350€ for a videocard just for fun is paranoic, unless you are a professional... or maybe I will do that in the future, I can not say that for sure. Someone or something has to put a limit. Imagin that new pascal toys cost 1500$... don't be surprise, it will happen one day or another. And why not 2500?

Maybe your multiple monitors have something to do with your forced vsync... Does that happen even when you boot a game with 3D Vision disabled?

Hmm.. what VSYNC are you referring to ? In Nvidia Drivers or in-game? In Nvidia drivers I have it on "Use the 3D app settings" and is always capped at 60FPS in 3D. If I disable 3D Vision (CTRL+T) The FPS can go above 120/144Hz so definitely not capped there. I've seen this in 3D Vision on Single GPU/Single Screen as well;) It doesn't matter for me as 60FPS in 3D is PLENTY, just saying what I saw:)

Not sure if it's a Passive/DLP thing but I get tearing in games in 3D if VSync is Off also. Usually I just force it On in the Control Panel and set to Off in-game... although I'm currently messing around with Adaptive, could've sworn at one point it didn't work for me at all... TR(2013)?

Nvidia has shipped some briefcases to selected media. The briefcase holds a puzzle tied to a website called the Order of 10.
