Yes correct, but as I said its a trade-off. You get a little more depth for near field objects with no sense of depth for distance objects, or at least some sense of depth for distant objects at the expense of slightly better depth for near field objects. Either way, the max allowable convergence settings before ironsights break mean neither option is ideal.

Using trigonometry and the measured distance on screen for the same object you get the percieved distance.

Distance at B-4 wall: 63mm or 14,6m

Nearest point of ADS gun: -60mm or 23cm
A lot of depth but the B-4 Wall is a lot closer than 14,6m in-game
With setting 47,4/20 which I expected to have some depth:

Distance at B-4 wall: 24mm or 71cm
Nearest point of non ADS gun: 17mm or 61cm
Nearest point of ADS gun: 2mm or 46cm

Rajko Stojadinovic (@rajkosto on Twitter) did a lot of work wrapping directx and creating a proxy dll for ATI HD3D allowing the game to be played with Nvidia 3D Vision before the 3D Vision patch.
He tried to remove some artifacts introduced by the 3D Vision driver like the non-square soft shadowing rendertarget being duplicated and thus rendered incorrectly.
The 3D Vision driver works below directx so unless there was an API to guide the driver heuristics the problem cannot be fixed.
There are some rules that allow a render target to not be duplicated but I assume that none were applicable and the ability to alter the game to be fairly limited.

The 3D Vision patch was released with configurable convergence.
I played around with the settings and after Rajko aligned the image nothing except the gun had any depth difference.
Months passed.
Recently I wanted to make sure there was no depth in the environment and I did find depth which is the why I started testing how the game responds to different values.

To change the values beyond the reach I located the registry keys and eventually figured out the storage format (float).
To simplify changing the values I wrote a tool. I calibrated the scale so that 0-25 matched the settings the game used and extended the scale beyond.
I later adjusted the ranges making Strengh 5x and Plane 3x.
The tool is by no means completely robust.
At this moment it crashes on my mashine as I am currently using a Strength value outside the extended range of the tool.
I recently tried discussing DX:HR with Rajko but he appears to have moved on.
I hope I have managed to show that DX:HR has significant depth differentiation with proper settings.

At first I had no problems.
Some time later the green light would come on at the start of the game but turn off very quickly way before you reach the main menu.
Only way to turn it on for me then was to press the button.
This gave me a default 3D depth setting and ignored any setting that my tool had stored in the registry.
If you change settings in-game the settings are stored back to registry on game exit.
in my tool the setting is stored only when the slider changes.
What fixed my situation was when I set the nvidia driver to hide stereoscopic 3d effects when game starts.
When using this setting the game enables 3D at startup on my system and applies the 3D Strength from the registry.
This is not the default 3D setup as far as I know so if you change that setting or upgrade your drivers you will have to be aware.
Just to reiterate 123/44 was quite an interesting setting on my 23,5inch monitor.
This would require manual registry change.

He tried to remove some artifacts introduced by the 3D Vision driver like the non-square soft shadowing rendertarget being duplicated and thus rendered incorrectly.
The 3D Vision driver works below directx so unless there was an API to guide the driver heuristics the problem cannot be fixed.
There are some rules that allow a render target to not be duplicated but I assume that none were applicable and the ability to alter the game to be fairly limited.

The 3D Vision patch was released with configurable convergence.
I played around with the settings and after Rajko aligned the image nothing except the gun had any depth difference.
Months passed.
Recently I wanted to make sure there was no depth in the environment and I did find depth which is the why I started testing how the game responds to different values.

To change the values beyond the reach I located the registry keys and eventually figured out the storage format (float).
To simplify changing the values I wrote a tool. I calibrated the scale so that 0-25 matched the settings the game used and extended the scale beyond.
I later adjusted the ranges making Strengh 5x and Plane 3x.
The tool is by no means completely robust.
At this moment it crashes on my mashine as I am currently using a Strength value outside the extended range of the tool.
I recently tried discussing DX:HR with Rajko but he appears to have moved on.
I hope I have managed to show that DX:HR has significant depth differentiation with proper settings.
