Disabling convergence lock in Google Earth Profile
I'm trying to run the nulldc dreamcast emulator with 3d vision but it runs in a maximized window so so 3dvision doesn't kick in. I added it to the Google Earth profile and that makes it work but unfortunately the convergence is locked. How can i disable the convergence lock? Or is there a better way to enable 3d vision in a windowed application.
Try adding it to '3D-Hub Player' Profile and see if that works.
I already tried that and 3DVision woudln't kick in. I tried a few other profiles as well and the only one that seems to work is Google Earth.
I'm not really sure if anything in the Google Earth Profile is actually locking Convergence or not ... or even if a Profile is able to lock Convergence at all. A Profile can define a Value for Convergence but that's all I'm really seeing.
I added Dwarf Quest to the Google Earth Profile and was able to play it in 3D windowed and also change Convergence both in windowed mode and in fullscreen ... so Convergence wasn't locked in a true 3D game.
Then I tried it again on Capsized, a 2D game I thought Convergence didn't do anything at all in, and it did work I just had to hold it down for a really long time in the opposite direction that I originally thought I needed to go, the Separation was far greater than my Depth usually is so I thought I had to decrease it but I really had to increase it for it to do anything ... the game was still 2D though, not layered.

This topic is quite old but nevertheless I wanted to contribute my way to avoid the convergence lock for Google Earth (the program itself not its profile when used for other games). It is quite complicated but works for me.
- download this helixmod debug.dll: https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/DLLS/Debug.zip and place it in the folder where googleearth.exe is located (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth\client). Maybe it works with newer debug.dlls but this was the one I have used.
- make a DX9Settings.ini file with the following content:
[General]
Preset1Key = 49
Preset2Key = 50
Preset3Key = 51
DefPreset = 1
SHOWTEXTKEY = 66
[Preset1]
UseSepSettings = true
Convergence = 0x3a87ece5
Separation = 0x40400001
[Preset2]
UseSepSettings = true
Convergence = 0x3a87ece5
Separation = 0x41880001
[Preset3]
UseSepSettings = true
Convergence = 0x3a76393d
Separation = 0x3f800000
You can change the hotkeys for the presets (1,2,3) and disabling the debug UI (b) using the key codes on this site (http://www.asciitable.com/)
- unfortunately the debug.dll doesn't kick in for me when I start Earth directly. It only works when I start Earth using TexMod. As target application choose googleearth.exe, switch to logging mode and disable "Draw Control and Texture info", "Show texture..." and "Replace Texture..." to turn off the UI of TexMod. Then click on "Run".
- Earth should start now with the UI of the debug.dll visible. Turn it off using the hotkey (b). When You press one of the preset hotkeys (1,2,3) You should get different depth and convergence settings that allow You to zoom in to a very detailed level (e.g. for cities with buildings modeled in 3D).
To adjust the presets for Your own needs You have to place the debug.dll and DX9Settings.ini in the folder of the exe file from another game that allows You to change convergence settings. Press the hotkey for the preset You want to change (1,2,3), adjust the convergence and save it with Crtl+F7. Then copy the DX9Settings.ini back to the Google Earth folder (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth\client) and test the new convergence setting in Earth. Repeat this try and error method until You are happy with the presets.
You see that is quite complicated but without this workaround Earth was useless in S3D because of the bad setting for the fixed convergence. There is much to much pop out that prevents You from zooming. Even when You choose another profile (e.g. 3D-Hub Player) You are able to change convergence but it is still locked to a minimum convergence that is too high. Only the presets helped me to avoid this limitations.

Interesting approach using TexMod.
This made me look to see if umod had ever made any progression since last time I checked. Unfortunately, it's still shows the last release from 2012.
I always try TexMod when the debug.dll doesn't kick in and in some cases it helped. I have also discovered that at least the UI of the debug.dll isn't visible in some games when the do not run with 16:9 aspect ratio or 720p/1080p.
The drawback of TexMod is the fact that the game needs to be startet directly with its exe. If there is the need to start the game by a launcher then TexMod won't work. In this case uMod could help but I have made the experience that it often causes games to crash especially when used together with Helixmod.
I would love to have a texture wrapper for Dx 11 games. And no - not beause of nude patches ;) Don't know if 3Dmigoto could offer something like that in the future. At least it would make 3Dmigoto extremly popular also for 2D players :)

Helix put a tattoo on the breast of Elizabeth, I assume he was doing it via his wrapper for Bioshock Infinite.
You don't have to launch from from TexMod's exe, it can be made to work with launchers by renaming as needed, just Google it. There's also tutorials on YouTube.

Also you can always send this pic to Ken Levine.
I think he will make even 3D support to avoid something like the in future :D
Google Earth has received another face lift.
Last month I saw Google was planning an announcement and then completely forgot about it.
"GOOGLE is reportedly building a completely overhauled version of Google Earth, which will be unveiled during an Earth Day event in New York City this coming week."

Google Earth is not in 3DFixManager list. It will be a great addition because is complicated to get keys working. Without convergence adjustements is too flat.
