Help please. Whats the magic ingredient needed to activate 3D Vision Can't understand what makes
I seem to get confusing/conflicting results when I try to get stereo 3D working ...
My assumptions are that if I have
1. 120Hz display
2. 3D Vision Drivers installed and working
3. DirectX game
... then I should be seeing the game render in 3D.
Does anyone know if there's more to it?
The other part thats confusing is the game (Flight Sim 2004)
1. worked before on my 120Hz projector I updated my drivers
2. still works in anaglyph mode on my LCD monitor but not on my 120Hz projector
3. the 3d Vision driver recognizes the game and displays the green message text saying support is good and shows the depth guage (adjusting the depth guage shifts the image but no stereo)
4. doesn't work in anaglyph mode on my MacBookPro's built-in LCD display (even though the display is capable of both Cyan and Red colors)

What kind of display you have? Nvidia drivers does not work with every display. Is your display from the [url="http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-requirements.html"]nvidia supported displays[/url]?
Did you run the 3D vision setup wizard? Was your display detected as 3D ready? One more important thing, you must run your game in full screen mode to start the 3D vision.
If you already have everything and still it does not work then may be try a clean re-install of the drivers. First remove all the nvidia drivers then use Driver sweper to remove everything completely. Then hopefully it will work again.

The suggestion to use Driver Sweeper is something I hadn't tried although I had removed and reinstalled all nVidia drivers and software from my computer several times. Owners of new MacBookPros like mine with the GeForce GT 330M GPU aren't well supported. The GPU has some special Apple signature that prevented the installation of updates for Windows 7 64bit from nVidia until the latest v258.96 drivers came out. On forums nVidia seemed to be saying it was Apple's responsibility to supply drivers but Apple was not doing that. (Driver installation would always fail, claiming no compatible hardware detected). Ironically, one of the reason I bought the $4000 POS is cuz it was supposed to be compatible with 3D Vision glasses. Anyway ... moving on...
I downloaded Driver Sweeper, removed all nVidia drivers, etc, rebooting into safe mode, cleaned remaining registry keys and files using DriverSweeper, then reinstalled the v258.96 drivers from the "NVIDIA_3D_Vision_CD_Verde_Notebook_v1.33_WHQL_Internati
onal" download.
Unfortunately no change. :(
I also tried the latest ForceWare Drivers from Guru3D but I get the "no compatible hardware detected" failure message I've grown to hate. I wish there was some sort of GPU Firmware flash update that would make my 330M look like a standard 330M so I could avoid this issue.

The game cannot be in 'Windowed' mode. Find this option and disable it in any game you are trying. Also I think the resolution can make a difference too. Make sure the game is correctly configured to the native Resolution of the monitor.

You might need to make sure you are using the correct cable/ports.
You do need to be able to process a dual signal which is why not every 120hz monitor / TV will do.

Since the some programs work (3D media player, nVidia picture viewer) and others don't (DirectX games), I'm pretty confident the emitter is capable of switching on and that I'm close enough and have line-of-sight to the glasses.

The games are definitely running in FullScreen mode and do work when I switch from using the projector to using an LCD TV with anaglyph.
The resolution is definitely correct as well (1280x720@120Hz). The projector actually displays this info for a few seconds whenever any of the settings change.
The projector itself is marketed as "NVidia 3D Vision Ready" (http://hifibest.com/?p=637). In addition, I can get the projector to work in stereo 3D with NVidia test and NVidia 3D media Player but not with DirectX games.
I don't think the cables are an issue. I'm using a short (8') HDMI cable from the MacbookPro to the projector and it definitely does display stereo 3D but just not for DirectX.

As a side node, I found some code for this Activator project that I've compiled and I can use it to force the emitter on but I need to manually play around with the timing to get the shutters to work at the right speed. Unfortunately, when it gets to the point where I need to write my own drivers then nVidia is providing very little value in their 3D Vision product. After all the shutter glasses themselves are probably made with less than $10 in parts. I have no issue with nVidia wanting to monetize the technology and charge a huge premium for a niche/small volume product but when it takes you more time to jump through their hoops and troubleshoot issues than it would take to just build the solution yourself from scratch, you have to question what value nVidia is providing. I guess they've crippled the solution in various ways in order to maximize their profits and to protect their IP. I have no problem giving them a bit more $$ for a more open/less crippled version but I'm stuck in this nether-region where it seems I have no choice but to just use 3D vision to watch movies and not play games or wait for nVidia to relax their restrictions or hack the solution to make it work.
I am very grateful for the help everyone has given me. Does anyone know if nVidia offers some sort of paid support where I can get them to look into this issue for me?

Sounds like there may be an issue with your DirectX, might be worth re-installing it if you can. Just wondering, have you tried one of the official "3D Vision Ready" games? like batman AA or just cause 2?

Strangely, the projector will not show the DirectX games as anaglyph 3D either, although the nVidia test and the 3D video player do work as anaglyph on the projector.
Its like the nVidia drivers refuse to activate the stereo 3D mode only for DirectX games and only when the projector is being used as the display. Otherwise, they work fine :S
I could understand if my screen resolution or refresh rate were unsupported but I am absolutely sure the game is running in FullScreen mode at 1280x720@120Hz.
The disappointing thing is that I feel I have tried to make all my purchases specifically to ensure compatibility with nVidia 3D Vision glasses. I spent a lot of time researching equipment and as much as possible tried to get the best, most standard, most compatible equipment I could get. Almost $6000 later ... no 3D.
I feel I'm so close. If I can just find that one setting or special prerequisite that nVidia is looking for, everything would work.
What could possibly cause nVidia drivers to disable themselves for DirectX based upon using the Acer H5360 projector, yet still activate for 3D movies on the same projector? Its so strange.

Assuming its a 3d ready monitor, Card & you have all the correct 3d drivers I'm not sure what else there is.
You might need to make sure you are using the correct cable/ports.
You do need to be able to process a dual signal which is why not every 120hz monitor / TV will do.

The emitter doesn't activate (doesn't go bright green) when I get the info about game compatibility. If I exit the game and run the nVidea stereo media player the emitter glows bright green and I can view content in 3D.
Since the some programs work (3D media player, nVidia picture viewer) and others don't (DirectX games), I'm pretty confident the emitter is capable of switching on and that I'm close enough and have line-of-sight to the glasses.
The other confusing thing is that if I change from my projector to my LCD TV, the DirectX games do work in stereo 3D (albeit anaglyph) but the games won't even work in anaglyph on the projector ... very strange.
There's got to be some clue there but I can't figure it out.

The games are definitely running in FullScreen mode and do work when I switch from using the projector to using an LCD TV with anaglyph.
The resolution is definitely correct as well (1280x720@120Hz). The projector actually displays this info for a few seconds whenever any of the settings change.
The projector itself is marketed as "NVidia 3D Vision Ready" (http://hifibest.com/?p=637). In addition, I can get the projector to work in stereo 3D with NVidia test and NVidia 3D media Player but not with DirectX games.
I don't think the cables are an issue. I'm using a short (8') HDMI cable from the MacbookPro to the projector and it definitely does display stereo 3D but just not for DirectX.

As a side node, I found some code for this Activator project that I've compiled and I can use it to force the emitter on but I need to manually play around with the timing to get the shutters to work at the right speed. Unfortunately, when it gets to the point where I need to write my own drivers then nVidia is providing very little value in their 3D Vision product. After all the shutter glasses themselves are probably made with less than $10 in parts. I have no issue with nVidia wanting to monetize the technology and charge a huge premium for a niche/small volume product but when it takes you more time to jump through their hoops and troubleshoot issues than it would take to just build the solution yourself from scratch, you have to question what value nVidia is providing. I guess they've crippled the solution in various ways in order to maximize their profits and to protect their IP. I have no problem giving them a bit more $$ for a more open/less crippled version but I'm stuck in this nether-region where it seems I have no choice but to just use 3D vision to watch movies and not play games or wait for nVidia to relax their restrictions or hack the solution to make it work.
I am very grateful for the help everyone has given me. Does anyone know if nVidia offers some sort of paid support where I can get them to look into this issue for me?

Sounds like there may be an issue with your DirectX, might be worth re-installing it if you can. Just wondering, have you tried one of the official "3D Vision Ready" games? like batman AA or just cause 2?
If at all possible are you able to set it all up on another PC? i know its a faff but at least it would help determine whether its the 3D kit or your PC at fault
