Hello, this is my first time posting. I recently built a PC and have a monitor that is capable of 3D Vision, but looking at the list of officially supported games, it doesn't look like 3D Vision has had the support of NVIDIA for years... I mean Battlefield 3, the original COD Black OPs? These games are ancient, 2011 was 6 years ago.
I bought it thinking it would have some support since they still charge $130 dollars for it, but it looks like these people at Helix Mod are trying to hold it together.
What am I buying here? A device that is fun and still supported with the latest games (Shadow of War, The Fractured But Whole, Divinity: Original Sin II, PUBG) or am I buying some antiquated piece of junk that was scrapped years ago?

Intel i5-7500 3.4GHz | GTX 1060 6GB | 16GB DDR4 RAM | 144Hz Monitor :(don't even get 100fps) silly me
Divinity OS 2 is getting a fix at this moment, IIRC.
Do you expect South Park to be 3D?
Shadow of War just needs the fixing tool (3Dmigoto) to work, and then surely someone will fix it.
PUBG is a risk of bans for people trying to fix it.
The most recent 3D Vision Ready games are Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex MD, I think.
I'm sure there are plenty of games you'd want to play from the >600 games fixed by the community.

But that's the problem, all of the work is being done by the community. Why should I give a company my dollars if they doing 0 of the work? Seems I'm better served buying a used kit.

You can do that if you prefer that (hoping that it isn't a faulty unit). At this point, it's about whether you like community fixes or not, and if you want 3D (I almost can't play without it now).
If you want to play new complex games day 1, you'll have to be patient until there is a fix.

Some of the community fixes are great Austyx and can breathe new life into slightly older games, or make it worth playing year or so old games you may have missed out on. Doom, Witcher 3, Far Cry Primal, Nier Automata, Dark Souls 3 - have you played all of them? What about ABZU, Inside, Little Nightmares, Observer or Outlast 2 if you prefer indi games?
It also annoys me that Nvidia offers no support and the fixes are done by the community - just donate to the shader hackers if you can spare the cash to make up for it and accept you can't change Nvidia's business practices.

At this point I would not dish out any big money for a 3D monitor nor 3D Vision 2 emitter.
Its dead end tech now.....
VR is just the new thing every big company are putting attention in.
We get some decent native 3d in a VR HMD and Ill never look back

What is it with you VR guys ??
You can't compare apples and pears, I'll prefer 3D Vision any day !
It was dead end tech from the very first moment, like all techs including VR are :)
But as long NVidia updates the driver and this wonderfull community exists, 3D vision is not dead !!
Not worth the money ???
At the cost of 130 USD you get acces to 600+ great games in 3D, you must be joking, It's worth every penny !!

All of the regular participants in this forum would prefer some type of 3D (including VR) over ANY 2D version of a game. A 3D Vision kit (even though poorly supported by NVIDIA), with NVIDIA compatible 3D monitor, is probably your lowest cost entry into 3D gaming. As an alternative, some of us are using 3D TVs like LG 4K OLEDs as a display, and do not need to use a Vision kit.
The shaderhackers in this community are incredibly bright, resourceful, and NVIDIA's unacknowledged gaming community heroes. Even though unsupported - and unacknowledged - by NVIDIA, they have created an incredible library of fixed games at helixmod.blogspot, as well as essential tools and guidelines. For example, mike_ar69's (and Helifax's) DOS2 fix is superb (more than 200 hours into this LONG, great game).
Once you have been immersed in a good 3D game and 3D viewing environment, you will not want to return to the flat gaming world again...

What do you mean VR guys.....I been a 3d Vision owner since 2011.
Quit trying to draw a line...as if we can't be both.
Like I said this tech is indeed dead end.....there isn't gonna be a 3D Vision 3.
The most we can even hope for is a Core fix one day.
With the 3d Emitter you still need a $500 plus 3D monitor....did you somehow forget that part???
Besides the sub $300 Acer GN246HL..in which I happen to own also.... show me other cheap 3D Vision ready monitors....especially bigger than 24 inches or with 1440p.
I'll wait......
Either way you are looking at $120+ atleast $300 3D Vision monitor at minimum.
The shaderhack community is great and some software devs are still nice enough to give us 3D Vision compatibility like Rockstar with GTAV.
Meanwhile on the Nvidia hardware/software side 3D Vision 2 is indeed dead end tech.
Like I said once again...once we get a capable VR HMD with true stereoscopic 3D inside.....
we will have total immersion and eye candy. Why the hell would someone still wanna spend atleast $720 on an emitter and monitor when they can get the VR headset for less??
Spending that much money in just to be capable of playing 600+ game titles with some of the best titles having poor handicapped CPU Core performance 3D Vision 2????
in 2017.....NOT WORTH THAT TYPE OF MONEY!
Once again this is my opinion.....you don't have to like it and don't try that VR vs 3D Vision crowd bullshit here because alot of us are enthusiasts of all tech.
Me being biased towards 3D Vision would be me being dishonest...not gonna happen.
Thanks!

Allright then, not trying to upset anyone :)
And we have had this discussion a bunch of times already, so I won't start it up again..
I might get VR at a point, but I won't give up 3D Vision, there's so many great games to play, and I WON'T play some of my favorite game genres in VR, RTS, Point'click, platforming and so on..
About the costs of the monitor, I asume that even if you where go all in for VR, you still need a monitor with a decent refresh rate, and it doesn't cost extra to get one with 3D support !

in 2017.....NOT WORTH THAT TYPE OF MONEY!

Win7 64bit Pro
CPU: 4790K 4.8 GHZ
GPU: Aurus 1080 TI 2.08 GHZ - 100% Watercooled !
Monitor: Asus PG278QR
And lots of ram and HD's ;)
Better to look at: http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/ and decide if you want to play anything from there. 95% of the fixes (if not more) are flawless in 3D Vision (something that even the "official" supported 3D Vision games don't have done properly!).
1x Palit RTX 2080Ti Pro Gaming OC(watercooled and overclocked to hell)
3x 3D Vision Ready Asus VG278HE monitors (5760x1080).
Intel i9 9900K (overclocked to 5.3 and watercooled ofc).
Asus Maximus XI Hero Mobo.
16 GB Team Group T-Force Dark Pro DDR4 @ 3600.
Lots of Disks:
- Raid 0 - 256GB Sandisk Extreme SSD.
- Raid 0 - WD Black - 2TB.
- SanDisk SSD PLUS 480 GB.
- Intel 760p 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
