Metro Last light - Intro issue, can't see anything just hear sound????
1 / 4
Please help me, I am having a very strange issue with Metro Last Light. I've just bought this game in Steam and I just don't know what's going on.
When I start this game I see a lot of lights and I can't see anything just hear the damn music. I then Alt+Tab to get out of the game and I realize my display resolution is forced to 800x600, like a driver crash, than I exit the game and my dipslay comes back to 1080p?
I was one able to enter the game's menu and 3D was flawless and I had no issues. I then saved my settings and restated the game cause I had to because I've turned Physx advanced on. Now I again get stuck in the intro listening to sound and only seeing collorful blanks. I think I'll make a video and post in youtube, maybe someone will help me out figure that out cause I have no clue? I've even entered a part where it was the intro story but I could only hear sound and see colourfull lights. The drivers keeps crashing with this game and I am using the latest 320 WHQL drivers and I choose clean install, so I don't get this very strange issue.
It's like an eternal loading screen and I can't see a thing, just colourfull lights and sound is OK. Very strange issue. Before anyonhe asks all my games are running fine, Steam and non Steam.
Is there any patch for this game cause Steam hasn't made any updates so far, unless it was installed during the installation? Has anyone else dealt with this.
I'm getting stuck in the intro all the time and taking forever to access the game's menu...
Any help will be appreciated...

Steam auto updates patches, unless you have the feature turned off. Ater initially installing a game, you usually need to exit Steam and relog to initialize the patch.
Anyhow, try this maybe

D-Man, thanks for the help. So, this issue is because Metro Last night isn't patched yet? I've looked for updates in Steam options but I can't see any update??? I've only found DLC so far? So, I should log off Steam and then log on again to make Steam update the game?
I've played for half an hour and 3D is flawless so far, perfect. I found out a bug when you use the mouse to select the game's menu options. The mouse gets stuck in a small limited area of the display? During actual game play everything seems OK. I hope this patch also fixes this. I've tried renaming the file legal.ogv inside Steam\steamapps\common\Metro Last Light\ to skip intro, but even skipping the intro, I also get stuck for a while in a config menu where I can't see anything and just hear sound, till I finally click on something and graphics finally appear and I can see and control the game. really crazy???
I'll try restarting Steam, hope it patches and fixes the game...
BTW, How do I unlock convergence in this game?

In your Steam library, if you right click on the game and select properties you will see updates. Under updates, just make sure you have it set to "always keep this game up to date.
One of the patches added a manual override for FOV. If you have that option, I'd assume your game has been patched. I haven't bought this game yet, I can't say what you need to do for convergence.

Convergence can be unlocked using Chiri's Mod. See this thread with numerous Last Light details, and that post has the link to settings for convergence.

Just as a data point, I've been running Metro very smoothly on projector and SLI, after the 2nd patch.
Do you have a second monitor hooked up?

How's your PhysX setup in the nVidia control panel? If it's set up to be used by CPU, perhaps that's the cause for the issues when you turned Advanced PhysX on? If so, I'd change PhysX to auto and try to run the game again. If that doesn't help, than I would re-install the game and get the latest drivers and do a clean install with the drivers as well.

What da hell is wrong with this game intro???????
Steam doesn't seem to want to update this game. I have already checked properties and steam is set to auto update this game and every other steam game I have installed. I've tried last night restarting my PC and I went to bed thinking that maybe Steam would patch this game in the morning.
Well, I've just wake up and tried again and Steam doesn't want to download any update for Metro Last Light.
I am still having issues with the intro. I can't see anyting besides colourfull lights and hear the intro music, till somehow I press the right key and finally be able to enter the game's menu.
The actual gameplay is flawless concerning 3D and performance with advanced physx On and SSAA off is Ok, averaging 50fps. SSAA seems to destroy FPS in this game so I'm not using it. No big deal for 3D right?
I didn't see the FOV option in the video menu, so I don't think the game is patched.
It doesn't have anything to do with Advanced Physx On cause if I turn it off I get the same intro issue.
The only way I figured out to play this game is when I get stuck in the intro with sound where I can't see shit. I alt+tab to get out of the game and wait maybe 30 seconds. After I alt+tab the game again I'm usually still stuck in the intro, in a red screen, then I Alt+tab the game again and I realize my display resolution is forced to 800x600 like If I had a driver crash, but I don't get any messages about driver crash, it just looks like this issue. Then if I click on Metro LL icon in my task bar to get back to the game, somehow my screen resolution goes back to 1920x1080p and I can finally see the game's option and play the game without issues. It's taking 2 minutes for me to finally get to this part, I am not kidding.
What da fuck is wrong with this game intro and why Steam doesn't download and install the patches for this game? Is there a way to force Steam to patch this game???
The game sometimes is crashing duuring intro scenes as well. During the intro scene that tells the game's story (this one I could see the graphics at least). The intro froze and I had to kill the game cause it wasn't responding. Game has stopped working.
It's really funny cause I actually bought this game as the devs seems to care and support Stereo 3D and I praise that. I wasn't expecting so many issues, never dealt with this before in any game I've played in years. Please someone have an answer for that????
I am already using the latest drivers WHQL 320.14 and I picked the clean install.
I've already figured out how to unlock convergence by checking Helix mod website.
At this point, I would really appreciate whoever can help me out how to force Steam to patch this game. It's been an hour that I've turned my PC on and so far no updates were downloaded or installed for Metro LL.
If I go to Steam/Metro Last Night/properties and select updates. There's an option that I click that shows me all the Metro LL updates, but it only shows me the new available DLCs. If I than click on the product updates, there's nothing. No mention about any patch that might have been installed...
I'm running out of ideas here??? Steam not patching, that's a 1st????
Would help If I make a video of my issue and post a link here?

I've tried playing the game again I was asked if I wanted to enter the game in safe mode because of the crash I had last time. I said no and somehow I could see the intro without any graphics anomalies and everything was normal. I exited the game and tried again same thing, no intro issues. I restarted my PC and tried playing Metro LL and the intro issue is back....
What da fuck??? Feels like I want to crash again so it may fix the intro issue temporarily, WTF????
No Fov option in game's menu, so game still not patched, Steam doesn't seem to download the damn patch???? What should I do for Steam to patch this game, any ideas?????
Edit: I've disabled 3D and I still get stuck in intro.... it's definatelly not a 3D related issue. I know this is a section for 3D only, but if any of you have dealt with this before let me know how to fix this or how to force Steam to patch a game? Any help will be appreciated....
Can I manually patch a steam game?
Edit 2: I've turned off Fraps and Aftern Burner and somehow the intro issue is gone!!! WTF????? I haven't restarted my PC to be sure, but the issue is gone the last 3 times I've tried entering the game.
I've found the culprit of my intro issues, it's MSI Afterburner, not Fraps!!!! Why it's causing this I have no idea??? So, it means I can't use Afterburner to play this game? So how can I monitor my GTX 690? What should I do???
If afterburner is On I have intro issue and only hear sound and see graphics anomallies, if it's off no intro issue. Go figure????

Haven't you read what I've just wrote??? It's MSI Afterburner that is causing the intro issue, at least it seems like the culprit. So, Why am I going to reinstall the game? It won't do or fix anything....
I thought the FOV option was something that the patch would apply, so it has nothing to do with a patch update?
Just let me know how can I force Steam to patch a game? I don't think the game was installed already patched, cause in Steam/properties/updates for Metro LL, it doesn't show anything, or any notes about any update or patch like it shows for other games???

Okay guys, the problem was with MSI Afterburner. When I launch the game without MSI Afterburner running, I do not see a black screen. I thought that maybe all I had to do was disable the on-screen display but that did not work, the entire program has to be terminated in order to avoid the black screen with colourfull lights and sound in the background. Unfortunately, I use MSI Afterburner to control the fans on my video card so I am just going to deal with alt+tabbing twice; at least I know what the issue is now, it's a software incompatability issue. Maybe MSI will update the Afterburner program to avoid this problem. Thans again for the replies.
I just need now to figure out why Steam is not patching Metro LL?????? Or if I can manually patch this game???

Yah my bad, I should have looked closer. When they say "added a manual correction for FOV".
Updates
Update 1: A Patch has been released to fix an issue with random crashes at the start for some hardware configurations, as well as some stereo bugs with 3D vision.
Update 2: A new patch is now live in Steam distribution. Restart Steam if it doesn't download.
- Optimized performance for AMD hardware
- Fixed shadow visual corruption bug for AMD 7xxx cards.
- Fixed issue with game starting only in 3:1 resolution on some TVs.
- Added option to manually tweak FOV via the config file:
After starting the game up, the user.cfg will be updated with the r_base_fov attribute. You can find this in %LOCALAPPDATA%\4A Games\Metro LL\. Tweak it at your leisure!

Steam automatically updates every game that is enabled to be updated. As soon as Steam launches, it begins the process.
It will begin running all the patches at once and will typically pause or downthrottle, if a game is started.
Their are only two reasons that I know of why Steam would not update a game.
One I already mentioned, if you have it set not to update that particular game.
The second, is if the game is installed on a different hard drive than where the games are installed by default. If your game is on a different hard drive then in the Steam drop down menu, select View > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders

D-Man, Thanks for replying.
Now I no longer have to deal with the intro issue, cause I always close Afterburner before I start Metro LL. After the game is already running I hit Alt+tab and then I turn on Afterburner again and no more issues so far. The gameplay is perfect and I am keeping SSAA at auto to get good FPS.
Average is around 45-50fps most of the time, but during some cut scenes it can go down to 20fps.
I have all my settings maximized and physx advanced On, only SSAA set to auto.
Actually I have no idea what Auto means for SSAA, does it mean it will use 2X, or 4x according to my performance????
Steam doesn't want to patch my game, unless during the game installation all updates were already included, that's the only thing I can come up with....
I've bought and installed Metro LL last about 3 days ago. I am pretty sure no updates were installed after installation was complete.
It's strange cause If I go to steam/metro LastLight/updates and I click on product updates tab under Store in Steam, There's no mention of any update donwloaded and installed.
For example If I choose other Steam games that I have installed like Batman AC, Crysis 2 or Left 4 Dead 2, I can see all updates that were performed if I click on product updates.
I can know the date the update was installed and what issues it fixed.
Metro Last Light doesn't show any updates, just a black window inside Steam when I click in Metro Last Light/Properties/view updates/Store/product updates.... nothing, no mention about any updates installed for Metro LL????
I'm not sure if it's normal for the game to be patched already unless all updates were installed at the same time as the game was installed in my PC? If so, then Steam doesn't have any records of these updates, cause all patches were already installed before I played the game. That's the only thing that could explain why steam is not patching the game....
Metro was installed in the main hard drive (C:/program files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Metro LastLight).
Is there a way I can actually be sure if my game is already patched, like a version number for something like that??? All games that I bought in Steam have updated themselves without any issues. Not sure what's going on??
BTW, I've tried configuring convergence using the fix I got from Helix website, but 1st person shooters are terrible when you increase convergence, cause you can't aim right, you cross your eyes all the time, terrible, can't shoot right. Convergence does make the game look much better and look more realistic concerning 3D, but it really screws the aiming.
I loved how Farcry 3 was different in that matter cause I was using Helix fix, and I could use 2 diferent convergence settings, when you're just holding the gun you can use high convergence and another configuration for when you're aiming the gun, using low convergence, so no issues with aiming. Is there a way to do that with Metro Last Light? That would be Awesome!!!!!

------>It more than likely updated already.<---------
Steam automatically updates every game that is enabled to be updated.

One of the patches added a manual override for FOV. If you have that option, I'd assume your game has been patched. I haven't bought this game yet, I can't say what you need to do for convergence.

Just as a data point, I've been running Metro very smoothly on projector and SLI, after the 2nd patch.

I still have no idea why Steam doesn't patch the game???

Delete the game. Download it again.
