I got same problem with dx9, but playing dx10 & dx11 with 3D Vision wont work. It worked first time when I tried it, but now it wont even go on. Green 3DVision text just flashes bottom right corner and nothing happens. I noticed on another monitor that there is 2 SteamUIoverlay.exe processes when I play Civ5 and thought it has something to do with it, but looks like I'm only one with this problem. Civ5 is my only steam game so I dont know is it conflict with it.

I use 260.99 driver for gtx480 and 260.81 for 3DVision. Other games work fine.

So, I finally got this working with dx11 & 3D Vision. I had to "check" game files in steam what noticed corrupted files or something and downloaded originals.

I could play about an hour before TOTAL crash. Even reset or power button didnt work(yes I pushed it over 6sec). I think/hope that crash was common civ5 dx11 bug and not related 3DVision.

However, I'd like to know if there is a way to play dx9 version with 3DVision? Now it shows grey things in every tile. In other games this 3D thing was just nice and good looking but surprice on Civ 5! When I played normal 2D I didnt notice map(world) is actually a ball! :D Also cities and important things are standing up like in real boardgame!
If I need to show 3DVision to someone Civ 5 is my choice over Batman AA, Just Cause 2, Metro 2033.

DX10 & DX11 crash problem SOLVED(at least for me)!

I upgraded my computer:
E8500 ---> i7 950
Vista 32-bit ---> Win 7 64-bit
4GB(3GB) ---> 12GB
Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD ---> OCZ 60GB SSD

I was surpriced when I didnt crash dx10 & dx11 mode and first thought problem was my "old" & "bad" components, but after reading different Civ 5 forums looks like changing to 64-bit Windows 7 (probably 64-bit Vista works too) is the answer. So problem could have something to do with memory usage.

I also could not find a thread about the awesomeness of civ 5 in 3d, until i found this one. I also wish to exclaim my joy and satisfaction with civ 5 in 3d XD It's good! I would like to say tho, as a big strategy game fan (way more so then fps unlike OP) this is the best hud and cursor's i've ever had for a 3d strat... try playing company of heroes or total war in 3D :/ I love the wooden ship era's in 3D for some reason, can't get enough XD I have yet to let a NUke rip in 3D... I am quite excited to do so!

Curious if this game can be played in 720p 3D. As of a year ago, as far as I know, it couldn't. I had to settle for 2D. Seeing flat hills and mountains was upsetting.

gosh it just feels like we are super spoilt to be playing Civ 5 in 3D, but it really sucks when i have to switch back to the gaming laptop that is in 2D. Top game, i played the stupidly big earth map (190x90 hexes) love the 3D, the jets look cool, shadows etc. Nuke looks awesome as well. only issue i have is in the city screen the mouse cursor disappears on the right hand panel. no a biggie. who would have thought that a turn based strategy game would rip in 3D

I wonder how much of a difference DX9 vs DX11 is. having multiple convergence settings sounds nice. I know it "showed off" DX11 features but honestly how much of a difference can it make in this game? I have no where enough time to invest in Civ 5 to find out but just dropping a suggestion if your playing it. Those story scenes[I have no idea what to call them] seem like a pain the ass.

I think it's bigger than you would think in Civ 5. The most noticeable DX10 (I know, DX10) improvement for me was fog because as you would see the little 'lines' of volumetric fog in DX9 games. There is a lot of mist and volumetric FoW effect in Civ 5. I think there was also a funny DX11 bump mapping effect used which makes certain tiles seem 'dusty'. I love playing these games in 3D; moving little model characters around the map. And the world looks more erm... world-like. But I think all games look better in 3D.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
