It really happened: This is the first game I experienced which is totally perfect in stereovision on launch date. Customizable convergence, perfect cut scenes, flawless rendering.
Thank you! Can't stop playing.
This echoes my thoughts exactly - it really does look amazing 'out of the box'.
What kind of 3d settings are you guys using? I've got depth all the way up with convergence ever so slightly modified for popout. I think this game is designed around having everything go into the screen, as otherwise background objects in the main menu start coming through the frosted glass / text (if that makes any sense!). Batman stands pretty close to the camera during normal walking too, so I haven't been able to tweak much without my focus fighting between foreground (batman) and background.

So, I have already got (and am already loving) AC. One of my screens just died and I'm thinking about getting a 3D setup to replace it. Is this the game to make me take that step?
Running 2 x GTX460 in SLI and thinking about an Acer GN245HQ if anyone has any comments or suggestions?

One problem with arkham is I have a single 580, only at 720p 3d. Physx is disabled I run at high 50's in fps but with often drop to low 30's. AA is not even set to highest. I can run skyrim at max and don't get single spike. Just doesnt feel optomized even in DX9.
@Snikersnack.
I didn't like oblivion or morrowwind but didn't give them a chance. Gave skyrim a chance and am really enjoying it. These games aren't about storyline like witcher,dragon-age,mass effect.(Though I like each of these more) Its about the world imo. Its just a very immersive game. In 3d especially you feel like are the character you are playing. The world is very fleshed out.
If amount of time bothers you however just stick to main storyline. I dont know how you could like gothic and not skyrim tbh.
Really? I am also running a single 580 (3GB), with all settings at max except for AA, plus Physx on high (dedicated GTS450, but since you aren't running PhysX that should be moot). No performance issues whatsoever.. Running around 50 fps consistent.
And about Skyrim - Don't get me wrong I definitely plan to give it a go. What happens to me with all Elder Scrolls games is that I spend countless hours on them and they just get so long that I lose my interest before finishing. It's hard to stick to a story because you don't always know what is part of it and what isn't. I've yet to complete any of them. That being said I still enjoy what time I do spend in the game world. My argument for Arkham City being more deserving of a GOTY award is because, to me, it offers a more complete package. As an example, you can compare two really good movies - They both have awesome special effects, and are both incredibly entertaining experiences. But which one is more deserving of an oscar for best picture? Isn't it the one that has a compelling plot that grips you to the very end? That to me is Arkham City. Granted, everyone's view of a good story is different, but I don't think there are many objective critics out there that would say that a 150 hour game that throws a few story elements at you once in a while would trump an edge of your seat 15 hour thrill ride that has an absolute jaw dropping ending.

That's exactly the way I tweaked my 3D settings. You can acheive total toyification in the game but honestly it just didn't feel right that way. Plus if you go to far some of the cutscenes get really difficult to watch.

I would definitely go with one of the new 27"s that are on the market, and make sure it has 3D Lightboost technology built in. - That's the latest new thing that is supposed to make playing in 3D brighter. Definitely a good feature, although I haven't had any issues with simply increasing brightness/gamma within the game settings to overcome the inherent darkening effect that comes with 3D glasses.

Depth is always more important then convergence IMO. In games where you can get depth up high I do. I set it to 80% and find a cinematic where its zoomed all the way on just the face(kissing distance) and adjust convergence to highest tolerable based on that.
I hate it when you got it set and all of a sudden your zoomed in on something in like a cinematic or something and convergence is so high that you can't even really look at it. I learned my lesson a long time ago though.

no one has the cutscenes crash ? gameplay is very smooth in 3D but the game crashes everytime on cutscenes, really don't know why.
Edit: BTW, I have bought a retail copy of Batman, using then GFWL.

Sorry, haven't experienced a single crash of any kind. Have played for 8 hours straight. Most stable game I've ever owned. I also bought a boxed version.

playing the retail version as well, no crash issue, like I said, DX11 stuttering is the game's only problem~
I finally got around to playing this last night (after TOR Beta ended) and must agree with everyone else, its a fantastic experience in 3D Vision with PhysX. When you're playing, it really makes you feel like you're experiencing interactive cinema in 3D rather than just playing a video game. If nothing else its an optimistic glimpse into the future of our hobby as I imagine any console exec or product manager will be looking to steer the next-gen consoles in this direction in 2-3 years. Gotta love PC gaming and the bleeding edge, even as frustrating as it can be at times, it really is like a time machine that hasn't reached the masses yet.
A few notes from my limited time playing:

I only played through the part where I was tracking down the bullet but didn't have any crashes to that point. I'm running the Origin version.

The 290.36 drivers had some weird issues for me though, incorrect depth on some effects and shadows, artifacting in 3D. I think its an issue with the drivers themselves and SLI, reverting to the 285 Beta fixed it.

Did not try DX11 yet and will hold off until WB/Rocksteady releases a patch for it.

Performance was generally pretty good on my rig, mostly 60, a few drops below that. May try and use a GTX 280 for PhysX to see if that smooths things out. All highest settings, but no MSAA, only FXAA High right now.

Convergence is adjustable, so make sure to tweak it a bit to your liking for a bit more per-object depth. I generally adjust Convergence until the context cues in the top center split/break, then bring it back slightly. You'll notice this gives every object a more robust 3D quality to it. I play with ~50% Depth.

In-game benchmark does not include a final tally score? Is this a bug anyone else is getting? Andrew can maybe give WB/Rocksteady a heads-up about this? I got drops to ~23-24FPS when the ice shards hit the wall in 3D, otherwise mostly in the 50-60 range.

I had them to begin with, but after a lot of fiddling with the settings it's running fine now. Main thing is to turn vsync off, then if that doesn't work turn off physx and directx 11, and just keep turning down the settings until it stops freezing (hopefully!). That seemed to fix it for me anyway.

I have a geforce 580, on a Nvidia motherboard. I got everything maxed out, DX11, and it stutters a bit immidiately after loading up the game. I have to stand there for a few seconds to let the program stabilize, and occasionally it lags, but niot often. This game is fantastic. I am Batman in this Gothic city. This is the cutting edge of art itself. It absolutly doesn't get any better than this. It's wonderful. Jaw dropping. I don't have any control over convergence. left ctrl-F6-F7 have no effect. I just crank up the dial on the emitter, and it looks amazing.
EDIT: I had my convergence controls turned off in my NVidia control panel. Now I'm going to have to play the game again with more custem settings. It looked fantasic with no convergence-full on depth.

You have to enable the Convergence controls in the control panel as they are not enabled by default. In the 3D stereoscopic area, click on keyboard shortcuts, then the Advanced twisty, then click the box for advanced controls. This will allow you to use Ctrlf5/f6 for Convergence and ctrlf7 to save your convergence settings for each game (depth is still set globally). Tweaking Convergence is an absolute must for some games imo, not so much for games like Batman which are really fine-tuned in 3D Vision (still benefits though), but more for games that are just out there without too much dev involvement.
Glad you are enjoying the game despite some of the earlier frustrations you encountered. :)

I've played Batman AC yesterday for the 1st time in 3D Checkerboard mode using my Samsung C8000 Plasma TV and the game looks amazing in 3D + DX11, despite a few ghosting issues, but I had convergence set too high and after some tweaking it got better. Anyway It's hard to avoid ghosting issues when playing in 3D using a TV, but Batman looked awesome anyway I played it in 1080p60hz 3D in a 63" 3DTV and the colours were much brighter and 3D depth is as deep as it gets compared to my 23" display.
Well, like everyone here, the game has serious issues in DX11, but I like the eye candy and don't want to turn off DX11 features and switch to DX9. Is there a workaround for this issue, as the game stutters a lot, goes from 40 to 5fps sometimes?
When in outdoor places the frame rate is really bad, but indoor places it gets a lot better, but even then I experience microstuttering and frame rate drops.
There's a lot of AA options in Batman menu options, like FX high, FX medium, 2XMSAA, 4XMAAA and Nvidia AA, what's the difference between FX and MSAA??? I had all my graphics settings maximized, DX11 on and Physix set to high as I have a SLI system, but the AA was set to FX High, I'm not sure if this option is superior or inferior to 2XMSAA???? I'll try 2XMSAA to see if the game gets smoother as it didn't using AA FX(high).
If anyone knows any workaround to improve the DX11 performance, I really would like to know that? I'm not interested in DX9 features anymore. I'll even consider turning off AA to see if I get smoother frame rate and avoid the stuttering as AA doesn't really add much in quality for 3D gaming besides frame rate drops, I know it does for 2D.
Considering that Batman is very playable at 30fps, I will play this game in Frame Sequential 1080p60hz = 30fps per eye, using my Samsung 63" 3D Plasma TV, since it's full resolution per eye instead of half like Checkerboard. CB is faster cause I get 60fps instead of 30, but the game in DX11 is getting an average of 30fps, so I'll go for the higher quality. Maybe after a patch is released that fixes the DX11 issues, I may try playing in CB again, so I can finally play this game in 40-60fps without my FPS going down to 10-15 like it's been happening while walking through Arkham City.
I forgot to mention that I'm using Rollermod to fool Nvidia drivers into thinking I have a Samsung 2008 CB 3D TV instead of HDMI 1.4 3D Ready TV, therefore I can play 3D using my Samsung 2010 Plasma TV with 3Dvision (FS or CB) instead of nasty 3DTV Play and it's lame 1080p24hz or ugly 720p60hz.
I'll try messing arround with AA to see if It get better performance in DX11. You think setting AA to 2XMSAA will make the game smoother to play compared to FXAA(high) which I've been using to play Batman??? These AA options really messed up my head, to many options to choose and don't know much about their differences. Which one makes the game look better without sacrificing performance????

One problem with arkham is I have a single 580, only at 720p 3d. Physx is disabled I run at high 50's in fps but with often drop to low 30's. AA is not even set to highest. I can run skyrim at max and don't get single spike. Just doesnt feel optomized even in DX9.
@Snikersnack.

So, I have already got (and am already loving) AC. One of my screens just died and I'm thinking about getting a 3D setup to replace it. Is this the game to make me take that step?

Sorry, haven't experienced a single crash of any kind. Have played for 8 hours straight. Most stable game I've ever owned. I also bought a boxed version.

playing the retail version as well, no crash issue, like I said, DX11 stuttering is the game's only problem~
