[Help] Dark Souls 2 SotFS (DX11) color bug in 4K
  1 / 2
Hello all, I'm trying Dark Souls 2 SotFS (DX11) for the first time, and I get a weird color bug in my LG 4k display. when in 3D vision mode I get a bluish tint on the game, but if I disable 3D vision (CTRL-T) then all colors come back to normal. I'm not sure if this was already discussed, but I couldn't find anything about it. Here is a sample video of what I am getting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJW49b_oykc Masterotaku can't reproduce this since he is not on this display. This is the only game I get this problem with. Thanks,

Alt + Tab works for Dark Souls 3 to correct blue fire, returning it to orange color...

I had to run dark souls 2 in full screen windowed mode to stop getting the blue colours with an EDID override. I couldn't turn off the windows border but I hid it by putting these lines in the userconfig file App.Window.X = -11 App.Window.Y = -40 the numbers will probably be different for you @ 4k but you just edit them until the window borders are totally hidden, which is possible to do when the game is running at your display resolution.

Try 3Dmigoto's resolution override function, it may prevent blue color bug. Enable these settings: ; overrides screen resolution. width=3840 height=2160 ; overrides refresh rate set by game. refresh_rate=60 ; full_screen=1 forces creation of full screen devices and swap chains. ; use this for 3dtvplay if game won't active stereo mode. ; full_screen=2 will also disable SetWindowPos which might help in some games. full_screen=1 If it doesn't fix it or crash, set the game to borderless window, then use override.

@ummester That blue tint is a bug in the 3D Driver when you use Checkerboard mode or interlaced mode (happens in a few games) Press CTRL+F11 (cycle frustrum) to fix it.

How do you tell which mode is being used DHR? I never tried cycling the frustrum with DS2 - with DS3 & GTAV alt tabbing works but with DS2 it never did for me, game just stayed blue until it was in windowed mode. Just tried cycling the frustrum and it works, so long as the game is stretched. As soon as I cycle back, it goes blue again. So windowed mode is the only way I can play it with all pixels visible in 3d.

I've been meaning to make a comment about this as well. I've got the same issue for GTA5 with the OLED TV, I did not know that this was the "color bug" people were talking about in the TV-related posts. I was wondering why the orange colors were replaced by a bluish palette. In GTA5, the main problem is that with this new OLED TV once you start the game in 3D vision you notice an annoying ghosting/outline on objects. I know that this might happen in some games, and normally you can solve it once you "reinitialise" the engine - by alt-tabbing, or changing video settings. However, in GTA5 as soon as you do any of these two, the color bug appears. If you switch off 3D, colors are back to normal. Also, if you switch to window mode, it works as well, but with performance impact, and next time you restart the game 3D will be off because it's not selectable with windowed mode. Sebastatu, please let me know if alt-tabbing solves this bug in Dark Souls 2. Whyme, Lacuna, Joker, Do you guys know if there is any solution to this, in case this is indeed the color bug you are talking about? Like, a different driver override, or a setting in the color options etc? Thank you in advance PS DHR I've tried cycling the frustum in GTA5, and you are correct that it works. However, the problem is that the bug disappears only for one of the three frustum modes. The one that enlarges the screen horizontally. So I end up with a fat Michael, and I think he's fat enough already :-) Is there a way to make all frustum modes work? Or at least a way to compensate the widening of the screen somehow? Any other game that you guys know have this bug? So far I've only encountered it in GTA5, and from the replies above it seems to also happen with DS2 and 3.

If you running GTA 5 with helix fix just remap the keys for frustum and press f11 to use SBS or TNB the color bug is present in these 3D modes.

@Zappologist Let me check again...but i remember using in GTA5 and don't see the image enlarges, i see like a little zoom in, so the only bad thing was the HUD...i don't know if my TV do some correction (i have an 3DTV LG). I play using TaB mode (Checkerboard), not interalced with EDID override. Using SBS/TaB the blue tint issue is also there (is a driver issue with those modes in some games)...if you use checkerboard. like i said...is an issue using Checkerboard mode or interlaced mode, not using Framepacking. I also have this issue in Disney Infinte 3.0.

Don't worry DHR, you don't need to spend time checking. I've just tried with the wrapper and SBS/TAB. As you say, the blue tint is still there. Only the "stretched" frustum mode does not have the color issue, so the image is not perfect. Also, discovered some things I did not know: 1. SBS or TAB mode at 1080p looks very bad in this game, for some reason. It looks like 800-600p. (I know these methods use "half" pixels, but still, I've tried this in other games and it did not seem too different from full 1080p) 2. At 4K it looks ok, but the performance hit using of the wrapper is huge, similar to window mode if not worse. 3. Just installing and uninstalling the wrapper seemed to solve the ghosting issue, or at least that's my impression. I think the only overwritten file is d3dcompiler_46.dll, so maybe that was causing some conflict. I'll check over several days to see if it's true. Impressively, GTA5 is one of the games I've tried after buying the TV which has an outstanding performance in 4K, it's butter smooth. Even small games like Abzu or LEGO The Movie are stuttering/tearing at 4K (I used TAB mode for Abzu and image quality at 1080p is indistinguishable from 4K) So I use this opportunity again to thank you guys for the SBS/TAB feature in the wrapper!!! It's a God send for 4K TV users with the override, without it most games would be unplayable. THANK YOU!

@zappologist, only solution I know other than 3dmigoto's override for GTA V (and also for games that don't use 3dmigoto) is to use Tridef to prevent blue color bug, but expect maybe a little performance hit with Tridef (depends on the CPU) and don't forget to disable Tridef's 3D. Before I bought the 1080ti, I was using Tridef for upscaling GTA V from 1440p to 4K and there were no blue bug after alt tab or changing settings (GTA's own upscaling is worse than Tridef). Also tried Tridef with 1080ti at 4K without upscaling and still prevents blue color bug. Blue color bug is also present with Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex MD if you change video settings. But for these games it's easy for me to fix it, disabling and enabling 3D got rid of blue color bug.

It's strange how this problem manifests differently for different users with different games. The one issue I have never solved with it is the magic effects in Dark Souls III having a red tinge at the end - after alt tabbing the rest of the game colours are correct, just not very light blue transparency. Using Tridef does fix it but I find that Tridef does have worse performance and looks softer somehow - 3d vision always looks sharper to me. Also, cycling the frustrum to the 'wide' mode also fixes it but it moves the HUD wider than the screen and makes the toon look fat :D

Finally getting around to playing DS2 (just finished DS1 now, after owning it for what seems like decades, bought after Helix posted the fix, in a Steam sale). Are these games like, awesome, or what? They really spoil you for anything similar, just like 3D spoils all 2D images, ever :-) Anyway, just wanted to confirm the color bug in this game as well. I don't much like the frustum solution, so what I ended up doing is: - set the game to window mode - go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin\Game (or whatever it is for you) - open the file userconfig.properties with Notepad - set the values to App.Window.X=-15, App.Window.Y=-60 These values are perfect for my 4K OLED to simulate borderless windowed mode. Hope this helps someone enjoy this great game, with the awesome fix by [s]Helifax and others[/s] OneUp03 and masterotaku. Thank you again guys for the fix and your generosity! EDIT Corrected credits for the fix, mistook it for an alternate fix for the game.
