The long road to complete immersion !
Well, this thread is not about 3D Vision, but besides the need for more fps, I'm actually quite satisfied with my 3D setup! 3D is all about immersion, but it's not enough, so I bought a very nice (and expensive) pair of cans, plugged them in my MB with Supreme Fx, and for a while I was happy with that! Game sound was juicy and punchy as I like it, but I also like to listen to my music collection in waw files, and that wasn't as I like it. So more shopping was needed to achieve the best in both music and games, so I finally bought a preamp with dual mono Sabre Dac's and lots of other nice features! With the Dac plugged in an Usb port and JRiver media Center set up with Asio/Wasapi output, my wav files opened up and it sounds just amazing, but.. now the games sounded meh, very clean and noiseless but meh... With the Digital usb output, the SupremeFX software is bypassed, so I had to find something to adress this problem, after some experimenting I found FxSound, which works perfect with my hardware setup. Now the games sounds absolutely stunning, I don't use the artificial surround, but all the other effects is a must. I have rather precise sounds, with easy located positions, and all the juice needed for shooters, while the fidelity feature ads a rich upper level soundscape. I could rample about it all day, but try it guys, there's a free trial here - https://www.fxsound.com/

fxsound looks very interesting, I'll definitely try it. For music on the go, I bought a Shanling M0 when it first came out and love how small it is. It can also function as a DAC with a desktop/laptop https://headfonics.com/2018/06/shanling-m0-review/ https://darko.audio/2018/03/shanling-m0-a-tiny-99-dap-with-ldac-aptx-bluetooth/ https://darko.audio/2019/03/modern-magic-shanlings-109-dap/ Feature rich for the price. Of course there are much pricier alternatives available, but with this, you get a lot for the price.

BTW, you are a long time PC gamer, perhaps you remember Aureal 3D audio. Sadly, I was still playing on consoles back then. Anyhow, there's a Russian site where there is a software version available that doesn't require one of their old sound cards. It's for old games. I'm unsure if it can be toggled on and off at will though. https://www.neogaf.com/threads/your-old-pc-games-might-sound-the-same-again-theres-an-a3d-aureal-wrapper.881030/ Like this, although this was back when, using the soundcard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6ng_bGozSo

I personally use a Sennheiser GSX 1000 USB DAC with A good pair of stereo cans. The GSX has a decent 7.1 virtual surround experience for all games if needed. I find usually I do not. Resident Evil 2 Binuaral mode recently for example.

D-Man11@ Lol, oh yeah I remember Aureal 3D audio, it scared the shit out of me several times, those where the days where blocky graphics could provide immersion :) Necropants@ I don't care for Virtual surround, it degrades the overall audio quality, it might surprise you how much positional audio that can be heard in Stereo if the gear is up to it, I haven't heard the GSX 1000 though. Anyway you should try FxSound, it really has a lot to offer.

I have razer headphones with virtual surround when I want to play quitely but nothing can be compared to real surround.. I have my computer connected to an old Yamaha receiver and from there to 5.1 klipsch speakers. I’m sitting right in front of a 65” oled (1 meter) and the immersion is insane! One thing I keep on thinking about to increase the immersion greatly is building a headset (something that looks like the oculus rift) that will cancel the field of vision outside the tv boundaries. I already started to plan it and I will be able to set it in accordance to the distance from the tv.

(when you can hear game sound panning from ear to ear and it's not even for example) I agree with you about virtual surround. But the GSX1000 has the best implementation of it I have ever heard. I find it situationally useful.

Afterall, it is engineered by Sennheiser. For $229.00 you would think that it would have better headphone support. Unfortunately, it's only recommended with headphones that have a impedance of 16 – 150 Ω so you would need to use additional hardware if you have headphones with a higher impedance. If I used Headphones very often, I would certainly consider it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGX069Zo8kE

Yeah, completely correct. It sounds good with HD558 class of open cans. That's a good review but I found it a bit nitpicky. For example I have never once activated the presets by mistake. The thing I like about it is it's plug and play functionality with no drivers or software. it works seamlessly. A nice bit of engineering and I have never once had a problem with it after nearly two years which makes me not mind the price so much. Fits perfectly in my cockpit setup at arms reach and activates like something out of a sci-fi movie XD. If you like tweaking sound settings to your hearts content it's probably not for you. But for me personally, and as a recording musician I hate agonizing over sound when it comes to games. If I have too many options you can bet I will.... With this I just don't even think about it anymore.
