How To Guide: Custom Resolutions and 3D Vision
  3 / 6
I'm not sure about projectors and all but actual 3D Vision / 3D Vision 2 monitors have never supported 144 Hz in 3D mode, only 120 Hz. Even monitors capable of 144 Hz 2D - for example, Asus VG248QE, Dell S2716DG - are only capable "out of the box" of running at 120 Hz during 3D Vision use

Hi @RAGEdaemon thank you for sharing the information. I play 3DVISION since 3 years using the workaround you described to get rid of the message "Warning: attempt to run stereoscopic 3D..." I got this only working with the earlier Win7 drivers. Since Win10 is released there is no longer success, the warning message persists despite of replacing the 201 bitmap. I assume that NVIDIA changed something here, so I would like to know from other members here how they got it working...thanks.

can this work with older versions of reshade when using 3dvision (removing starting text dialogue)?

Unfortunately, I am deeply saddened to say that with the release of the driver version 375.63 and later, the method to remove the red text from custom resolutions no longer works. 373.06 and earlier drivers work just fine. I am not a software engineer so I cannot figure out what has changed. Would someone kindly take a look to see if the new drivers can also be modified? I would personally appreciate that a great deal; as I am sure would others in the community who rely on this workaround for 3D gaming.

Apparently Nvidia is peaking on the workarounds we are doing and disables them.

Well, 375.63 was released on 23.10.2016. This thread was posted on 20.11.2016. Although I would be overjoyed reveling in the thought that nVidia might grace us with their presence in this little corner of ours once in a while, unless they have used their deep learning technology for clairvoyance, logic would put it up to a rather close coincidence. I have noticed some new VR dll's and 64bit version of files in the 3D Vision driver folder. Some other files' sizes have changed. Perhaps they are trying to bring 3D Vision to VR in some manner, and breaking of old workarounds is accidental collateral damage. I would like to think that we here are clever enough not just to 'fix' 3D Vision games, but also the driver itself :)

Tis a shame that Nvidia doesn't just open up and support any format, resolution or refresh rate possible, like TriDef does. A few million people bought TriDef and were able to figure out the settings that they needed for their display. So any excuse of the advanced hot keys being hidden or that of a "contained ecosystem", isn't valid. I can understand them wanting to make some money, but for FFS, offer a product with better options for said money. I sure hope that they didn't intentionally disable the work around.

There was/is a real sweet down sampling tool for AMD Radeon GPUs. It was so easy to use, but wouldn't work with Nvidia drivers. I used to use it with TriDef, prior to DDD borking it. They provided a convoluted workaround after a small ruckus on the forums that wasn't really user friendly. The awesome thing with TriDef and that DS tool, was no red warning letters "ever"

Unfortunately, Tridef does not work with my projector, generally has worse performance and support than 3D Vision, and never supports SLi. For me personally, TriDef is not an option.

I recently tried a new driver and saw that the 4 processes that would normally run individually are now lumped together in a new Nvidia Container exe. There were also new subfolders and registry entries for Nvidia container. When I rolled back I went through and deleted everything, I have an old version of DDU, it's possible that a newer version would have deleted these entries for me. I'd imagine that it's part of this change that's the culprit.

with a 720p projector I set the DSR to 2.25 to get 1920 x 1080 as my system doesn't do too well at 1440. This seems to work ok but the image quality is definitely not prefect, pretty blurry. Is there much of a difference between doing that or setting an initial custom res lower than 720p then using DSR?

That's interesting D-Man11. What do you reckon nVidia are doing with the new changes? @Ritchski In theory, setting an initial lower custom res will make DSR scale to the lower custom res which would be worse IQ than trying to scale to your native res. You could try what happens - you won't break anything ;-)
That's interesting D-Man11. What do you reckon nVidia are doing with the new changes?
I saw someone mention that it was to reduce the memory usage/overhead of the drivers. I suspect that it's so that you can not disable their feedback DLLs. Regardless if you install GeForce Experience or not, the exe for Driver Updates/HotFixes and GeForce Experience are installed and running in older drivers prior to this container. Everyone wants to data mine everyone, it's big business.
