Which hardware?
Hi,

I'm about to buy a pc just to have stereo 3D, I already have a stereo projector and shutter glasses. I guess I have avoid the 8800, multicore and Vista, so I wonder if this would be ok:

MSI K9N4 Ultra-F Mainboard
AMD Athlon™ 64 3800+
256MB NVIDIA 7600GT

How about a 7800?

Many thanks.

Thanks. I'm surprised, I read everywhere in this forum that 8800s and multicore create problems, of course I imagine you say they work. But you have to disable the other 3 cores, so why bother having a quad core? And which stereo drivers for Vista, which combo? Thanks again.

7900 , xp and nhancer for shutdown one core, config with vista and 8800 doesn't work for stereo 3d.

If you want stereo 3d NOW, do not get any 8xxx card. They 'may' be supported in the future but who knows and Vista is not supported with stereo 3D yet either. Get the fastest 7xxx card you can get like kapi suggested. A 7600 is a tad weak for all the graphics processing power you need. Get at least 256 megs of ram on your video card too.. you can never have enough memory IMO.

I'm getting good results with a 7900GT, Core 2 Duo E6550, and forceware 162.18 + stereo beta 162.15. I don't need to shut down one core.

Thanks a lot to everybody! Good for you Don if you don't need to shut down one core, but the stereo driver doesn't take advantage of the second core anyway, so I I was thinking that an AMD is better.

Sometimes it work well with 2 cores on (depending games) but try ctrl+t to disable stereo and retry it to enable i think you'll get a crash or system will run slowly during one minute or more. Best way is to try ;)

You're right. I've tested with more apps now, and some of them do freeze up. It's still an improvement on the 91.31 drivers, which didn't work at all even for the medical test.

One frustration for me is that I've been trying nVidia's own graphics demos, and have yet to find one that works properly with the stereo driver enabled. Nalu & Luna don't crash, but there's no stereo and the UI is gone. Bizarrely, ATI's Treasure Chest demo works beautifully with the stereo driver.

So far, the best looking 3D I've gotten is the 3DMark05 demo. The glow effects on the lights are in the wrong 3D position, but that's ignorable.

Hello. I have 7800GTX 128mb + AMD AM2 dual core since 3 days, and I´ve installed different combos. The best combo for me is 162.50 beta stereo + 163.75 whql nvidia driver.

Doom3 works very well, and Fear, but system crash with Oblivion, F1Challenge, and many games when using ctrl+t.

I´ve read this post looking for a solution, and seem that the dual core is the problem. Is there any other solution but nHancer?... is really the "solution" to disable one core?... I suppose that is a big price to solve the problem if I loose half of the cpu power.
