Come on nvidia, I agree you have to make money by selling glasses and software, but I already have a 3D TV (samsung UE46D7000) and it's glasses.

Just enable 3DTV users to use their rigs without payng more money.

And, by the way, all the drivers need to do is to enable setting 1920x2205 resolution! It's incredible how nobody noticed you crippled the driver from displaying that resolution!

Come on.

In other words, you want them to spread the cost over other products - meaning you want them to charge ME more so that you can play on your TV for free? Pththththth!

Silly argument. How would it be fair for them to give it free to 3dtv owners who have a geforce card in their PC when it is not free for PC users who use a monitor with their PC? A PC user does not get 3d for free. They have to buy a 3d Vision kit. I can't understand why anyone would think that 3dtv users should get to use Nvidia's 3d software for free. $40 is a very fair price.

3DTV Play is free for owners of a Nvidia emitter, the only catch is it must be plugged in at all times while using the feature. Also, your TV must be on the supported list for it to enable plus you'll need a Nvidia GPU capable of 3D. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-system-requirements.html

If your TV is not on the list try this http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2774
[/quote]

Unfortunately this doesn't work for 3D vision users with monitors that have the built in emitter, like the new Asus 27" Lightboost monitor.

Perhaps Nvidia should stop freely giving out drivers and instead require payment per driver download?

Currently, the nvidia driver team is subsidized by sales of graphic cards.
3D TV play drivers for free makes sense to me, but of course, it depends on nvidia's finances and profit.

Personally if nvidia charged a yearly fee and developers got a % based on sales(that are 3d vision ready). I'd support it, though it wouldn't happen. Because people would go into the whole gamer DLC mentality.

As it is 3d vision is a niche product that requires interaction between nvidia and developer. It also requires constant updates"DRIVERS". You see a nvidia employee putting a post on here MAYBE once a week. AMD doesn't even really support 3D and instead gives coupons for tridef(which they probably pay nothing for in return to giving them business). Their is no market to give free software. Flame me if you will... but we aren't a thriving market.

Also I don't support pirating it...less sales figures for 3d vision/tv play less support for paying customers, less people that nvidia can tell a game company when asked how many people use 3d. People using stuff they want on pc and not paying for it is reason pc gaming market is going down the ****ter. Thanks for making 3d gaming more niche.

Can you not pirate the software?

Some of you lot need a wake up call....

Please explain exactly how pirating the software will help? Maybe that way you can wake the lot of us up.

While the topic is obviously somewhat hostile but it is an opninion none the less, lets try and keep the pirate talk down as these forums are our official forums and users telling other users to pirate the software we spend countless hours on developing doesn't go over so well with us...

Thanks

Fact is, I've bought a 3D gfx card. I own a 3d TV. That should be all I need.
It's nvidia's prerogative to make sure they have compatability with their cards and any form of 3D display device.
It's in their best interests in order to broaden their market.
Charging people for 3DTV play is nvidia having two bites from the cherry and is conniving, bad practice on so many levels.
Paying for the software to play/watch 3D with their 3D gfx card on their 3D tv is ridiculous. Just say it back and really think about it, honesty?!?
Where does it say I can only use a monitor or I have to pay a stealth tax?

While I can see your point of view on this topic, fact is this is a business decision made way way way above me. So really not something I can comment on though there are many replies on this thread that pretty much sum up the reasoning behind this I suspect.

I was being sarcastic! Maybe I should tone the sarcasm down, because Andrew completely misunderstood the point I was making on another thread where I was being sarcastic :-)
For what it's worth, I have always defended Nvidia on this topic. You're quite within your rights to charge whatever you want for 3dtv play and it annoys me that people think they are somehow entitled to it for free.

AMD does the same but makes you pay a third party thats not even amd exclusive. If you have any compatibility issues you are SOL.

Id rather pay and get support via patches and updates. There are not as many 3d users as people think there are. While it would be good to offer it as a free service in hopes that it will attract more users which in turn will gain NVIDIA more money in video cards. I just don't think the user base is big enough. If there was I think amd would actually care.
