I can only suggest trying to view some some screens from solutiongaming.com, if they show good 3d vs. actual games you play, you can point that out, could be some bug in your videocard or else. As for me - I flame nVidia now and then for late 3d game profiles, but I always thought their tech is awesome.

You mean: http://www.solutiongaming.co.uk/ ? They rate RE5 as being very good. Despite what was just said in this thread.
Here, I'll add some. My rig:
AW2310 A01
Core i7 920 @ 3.2 GHz.
eVGA GTX580 SSC (slight factory OC, nothing on my part)
eVGA SLI 3x mobo
GSkill DDR3-1333 running slightly below 1333; 9-9-9-24 timings
I;ve got a bunch of USB devices plugged in: Das Keyboard, Razer Mamba, HP Printer, the emitter of course...used to have a Lifecam plugged in, but pulled that out to see if it'd help.
Otherwise...nothing special. I made sure to turn off all ambient lighting in case it was skewing the glasses/emitter, again, no luck.
I don't see what I missed. Hell, someone else at work has extra glasses lying around - I'll borrow his and see if I can take a picture of the terrible lag I was seeing; when I ran the variable benchmark in RE5, I could see very visible doubles as chris/sheva enter the room and see the crowd. And again, text was just wrong looking. With glasses off, text was clearly NOT in 3D (from the intro scene where you see chris driving/meeting sheva) - I saw no double, but everything else had a double image. When I went to put the glasses on, the result was that I could not get my eyes to focus on the text. I went cross eyed (literally.)
Now, looking at the 3D images supplied by nV, don't think I saw ghosting...are there any test images I can use when I borrow the glasses? Anything that would show what I'm seeing very well? Test 3D videos I could use even (non-rendered, I mean)?
Am I on the wrong drivers? (167.31) I mean, hell I can even see if eVGA has updated videocard BIOS out, but I doubt that's it given it works fine otherwise.

Yes, try downloading s3d screens from http://www.solutiongaming.co.uk/ and viewing them (save them to hard drive by doing "save as" routine (NOT save picture as), then double click), they should be in .jps format and they will open in nVidia viewer. you can get screens from http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=100645 as well. if people say screens are great and what you see is bad - I guess go ahead and smash your glasses.

The Edimensional glasses probably have the least ghosting out of any of the current crop of shutter glasses. The difference between them and the Nvidia supplied glasses is night and day. Then again, they are darker so there is a trade off.

Nice to see that you finally bought the 3D kit... kinda unfortunate how that turned out. I still think it's the Alienware that's at fault though. /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I also have yet to purchase the glasses, just waiting for more horror stories like this before I pull the trigger.
BTW, LCD glass really sucks to get out of your hands, as you know... pro-tip: wash your hands with cold water or else the glass splinters will get embedded in the pores. Had a faulty PS1 LCD that I botched modding..

There wouldn't be any way to trick the eDimensional glasses to work with an Alienware monitor, is there? (There is no analog input on the Alienware)

Hi all,
So...I've got a AW2310 and the vision kit and like everyone else, I see TERRIBLE ghosting...I've tried going to 100hz to no avail...now, I read all this that it's both LCD tech and poor glasses being shipped by nvidia...would the CrystalEyes 4 work with the vision kit and look better? Is there some other fix I can perform?
If there is no fix...these are going back for a refund, I can't play RE5 like this, it's truly unplayable.
Thanks,
RA

What kind of ghosting are you seeing? The top-bottom contrast ghosting is pretty much a limitation of current LCD and shutter glass technology as the monitor refresh patterns and the glasses result in some residual images between frames. There's really not much you can do about this kind of ghosting other than going to DLP or PJ options. There's also the overdrive ghosting that's more prevalent near the bottom of the screen that results in some weird "burnt" looking colors. For this panel, adjusting contrast down to 45 or lower will largely fix this problem and may also reduce any contrast ghosting you see as well.

I think the ghosting the OP was referring to is more of the type when you observe with a game with no profile (try Two Worlds 2 or Dead Space 2). Otherwise I cannot really imagine the soft/hard-ware profile that will make Trine look "real bad" in s3d...

Hey xDezor - glad to see you here. I'm pretty let down by how this went. my intention wasn't to go to town on the glasses like I did...and I'm kinda sad I did. Oh well. As for the glass, I got it out fine; I had a piece of something stuck in my hand, but it came out pretty fast. :)
Honestly, my experience was SO BAD that I have to believe that something was horribly wrong. Borrowing glasses tomorrow (and I think I'll also be borrowing a emitter in case that is bad) and trying that - I'll see if I can get my iphone or my point and shoot to take pictures through the glasses.

Having scoured these forums last night, it sounded like there was no way to get anything other than the nVidia glasses to play nice with the vision kit, yes? This is what angers me about nVidia - and what some friends and coworkers cautioned me about: wait until there is a proper standard. nVidia has gone proprietary it seems thus limiting one's ability to use real glasses. I mean, I've got my emitter....so if those glasses DO work with it...hell, I'll try it for the hell of it.

OK, so lacking any photos of it, I'll try my best to describe this again. Popped open RE5, set to 1080p, all settings high, motion blur off, VSync off (tried it on as well) and ran the variable benchmark (yes, the green text was in the lower right of the screen, leading me to believe that a profile WAS being loaded. No one has addressed my driver version question yet.) Now, in the benchmark, you see chris and sheva enter a room at the beginning where they see the guy from earlier in the game (the guy who gave them their guns) about to be executed. So, as they enter the room, I see three (3) shevas, and three (3) chris images, essentially: the primary one that I'm SUPPOSED to see, one offset to the right, and one offset to the left. If I close my right eye, I see the main image, and the ghost image that is offset to the right; if I close my left eye, I see the primary image, and the ghost offset to the left. I'm essentially seeing some of the opposite eye's image bleed though.
Now, when they enter the room, it is VERY apparent - at one point, sheva is in the background and her neck is really dark - in shadow - and I could VERY CLEARLY see the ghost images at this point. When the benchmark moves to the outside scenes, if I look at the executioner, I see a very clear ghost image of the spikes sticking out of him/of his axe. Trying to watch this with the glasses on and both eyes open, the 3D image just looks confusing. I see no pop, I just see confusing images. In trine, I at least saw pop - when an item was meant to look like it was above me and came out towards me, it DID look like it popped out towards me. This was totally absent in RE5.
I tried dropping contrast down and it did not help; contrast was already at 45. I tried both my custom RGB values that are calibrated, as well as gaming mode - both to no avail. Clear ghosting seen in both modes; contrast dropping below 45 just made everything look worse, the image just got dark...but ghosting was still there.
Was there a better 3D panel choice? Ever review showed the Alienware as being one of the best - certainly one of the best for 2D gaming, and one of the best for not showing the pitfalls of TN panels as much (banding, it's 83% of the NTSC gamut instead of 72% and so forth.)

Damned if I know - and that's just it. RE5 is supposed to be one of the rockstar 3D titles. All I know is that in RE5 I saw pronounced ghosting and a complete lack of any 3D pop that was...well, desirable. I'm actually posting this so that when I get glasses tomorrow, someone can tell me what to try - I'll certainly snap photos. But given I saw ghosting in the test app as well, I suspect I'm calling BS on the tech. But again, someone can feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong.

re glasses - so you did smash your original ones? and no - afaik you'd have to borrow/buy another pair
I have another basic question - in the hopes Andrew@nvidia sees this thread - where are the new drivers??? this is some record delay (look at the history of archived drivers, max 2 months in-between whql releases since 2008), so when???...

Here is what I suggest you do. Enter either Trine and RE5, play to the scene you think is offending in s3d. To take screenshots in 3D, just press alt-F1. They will be saved to your Documents folder under NVStereoscopic3D.IMG. share a couple with us and I think it will be more productive.
OK, I'll try that tonight sans the glasses (I have none now...hehe)

Edit: I'll ask this again:
Having scoured these forums last night, it sounded like there was no way to get anything other than the nVidia glasses to play nice with the vision kit, yes?
re glasses - so you did smash your original ones? and no - afaik you'd have to borrow/buy another pair
I have another basic question - in the hopes Andrew@nvidia sees this thread - where are the new drivers??? this is some record delay (look at the history of archived drivers, max 2 months in-between whql releases since 2008), so when???...
Sorry, I wasn't clear in what I quoted: someone mentioned non-nVIdia made glasses...

No, we are stuck with nVidia glasses. Looking fwd to screenshots.

Edimensional glasses and Nvidia 3D Vision
Nice to see that you finally bought the 3D kit... kinda unfortunate how that turned out. I still think it's the Alienware that's at fault though.

The Edimensional glasses probably have the least ghosting out of any of the current crop of shutter glasses. The difference between them and the Nvidia supplied glasses is night and day. Then again, they are darker so there is a trade off.

I think the ghosting the OP was referring to is more of the type when you observe with a game with no profile (try Two Worlds 2 or Dead Space 2). Otherwise I cannot really imagine the soft/hard-ware profile that will make Trine look "real bad" in s3d...

Edit: I'll ask this again:

Here is what I suggest you do. Enter either Trine and RE5, play to the scene you think is offending in s3d. To take screenshots in 3D, just press alt-F1. They will be saved to your Documents folder under NVStereoscopic3D.IMG. share a couple with us and I think it will be more productive.

And I'm asking the same question - are there any non-nVidia glasses that might work?
