Dear Valued Customers,
We would like to first thank you for your interest in our new Trimon monitors. The Stereoscopic Drivers are not yet final and we will most likely miss the Jan 2008 mark. Our website is also under an update so we will try to correct it and provide you with the most accurate information as well.
As for the initial release of the Vista stereoscopic drivers, I recall that they will initially support the 5***, 6*** and 7*** series cards. We have no intention of leaving any customers out of the loop, but the technology is still being developed. We understand your frustration and apologize in advance. We will work hard to deliver the 8*** series-and-on compatibility, but it might be a good time to find an older graphics card for the meantime just in case.
As for beta-drivers, we cannot issue releases due to the partnership outlines, but you may be able to find them online. If we have a reliable source we shall make a note to post them on our website as well.
We again apologize for the delays but hope that you can be patient and share our excitement as we deliver our new 3D monitors. Thank you for your time.

Well ... I really hope you've got some really good news about nVidia drivers and that they are coming from a reliable source, since the response from Zalman support is less than satisfactory. And the only thing that kept me from ordering the iZ3D monitor (now that I have that Zalman thing which isn't working in 3D on Vista with my 8600 GTS card), is that the iZ3D web server seems to have crashed while I was filling in my order.
No kidding. I have just stuffed the 22" iZ3D monitor and 4 additional glasses into my "basket", entered all my billing and shipping info, then clicked on the button to complete the checkout and ... kaboom! Not a single page from the www.iz3d.com domain works anymore for me, I always get this error page ...

Unfortunatelly, the list doesn't give me much to look forward to, since it is missing a number of games I would like to play in 3D: "EVE Online", "The Witcher", "Overlord", "Ryzom", "Tabula Raza", "Star Trek Legacy", "Prey", "Guild Wars", "Entropia Universe" and "Star Wars Galaxies".
To make things even worse, I don't even know if my graphics card will be supported on Vista. The official word from Zalman support is that it won't, advising me to look for an older model, while your unofficial source said it will.
From my standpoint, an official support person at Zalman should know better than to spread mis-information. nVidia should also be interested in keeping their customers away from ATI and other graphics card vendors if they see any value in this product. I'm really puzzled to observe how they aren't taking an official stand on this, but instead let a third-party spread the news, coming from some unofficial source at nVidia.
To be frank, I smell something fishy here and I *really* hope that either Zalman or nVidia will make an official announcement soon, hopefully with a download link for the current BETA version of their 3D stereo drivers, to disperse of all the rumours and speculations.

I don't recall ever being in the business of spreading rumors. If you look at all my new stories, they feature pictures of the leading people in the industry. I trust my sources.
As to why NVIDIA doesn't make official announcements, it may have to do with being a publicly traded company. As a publicly traded company, all announcements must be made via press release. That probably limits things.
As for Zalman, I can't speak to that. Maybe they have limitations according to a licensing deal, or they want things further established before they can go equally official.
Regardless, I think my information has a good track record, and politics aside, you aren't going to find a more reliable resource until the product launch is a go.

I have been keeping track of this tread. Please don't take this the wrong way - I do sympathise with your situation - But: You really should have researched just a little bit before buying the Zalman. Anyone with even a bit of knowledge of current affairs knows full well that Stereo3D isn't supported in Vista (lots of things aren't... what on earth are you doing gaming in vista? Hummph... it seems that I digress), And especially 8XXX cards (got one, was in the same boat as you for a while) are not supported by stereo full stop. People know nVidia's track record for the stereo driver. It doesn't even support post processing, making all the recent games look like crud.
Perhaps its just as well... the new driver which supports 8XXX is Vista only :P
If you had read the many forum posts, you would have had an idea of what you were getting yourself into. nvidia doesn't advertise their support for Stereo3D for a reason. If they did, they would be sued to kingdom come because it is just that flakey even when it works. We stick with it because its the only thing most of us have.
You can't complain about nvidia or Zalman really. It is you who should have researched what you were buying before you bought it - Mamma should have taught you to never trust the salesman or anyone who has anything to gain by selling you any product.
Sorry if this sounds like a bit of a rant. I apologize if this causes you ill feelings towards me.
Stereo3D is a niche market. The technology isn't plug-and-play just yet. You have to do a lot of tinkering to get things to work. This includes research. There are places where people can come together and share findings and share information. I point you to one of these good ones with lots of info: www.mtbs3D.com
BTW, Chopper and I both have the iZ3d, and yes, you should have bought it instead - even with the "ghosting" issue /fear.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fear:' />
All the best,
RAGEdemon (aka rant-a-lot)
P.S. If the iz3d webby crashes, it will take time but there is nothing stopping you from doing it all over again /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> /hug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

RageDemon, that's just it. I have trusted numerous reviews and posts which I've read on Forums about how good from Zalman monitor is and how it is a *good thing* that they are using nVidia drivers and not writing their own, which should (according to a number of posts I read) increase the compatibility with games.
I have been using Vista and that GeForce 8600 GTS card for gaming since mid 2007 and have *never* had a single problem with it. That is, until now - when I wanted to see something in stereo 3D. And, you can trust me on that one, I play *A LOT*. I usually buy games when they get release, I invest in good hardware, I do a lot of reading on Forums and googling for reviews to find out what's worth it.
But this time, I was mislead by all the positive reviews and positive posts on forums. Would I have contacted Zalman directly before purchasing the monitor and asked for a definitive date for the release of their Vista drivers for 8-series of graphics cards, I would not have purchased the Zalman monitor now.
I don't blame Chopper or anyone from MTBS3D for being overly optimistic about anything even slightly positive happening in the 3D stereo scene, but I'd rather have the information raw and more accurate, like that info I got from Zalman. It would help make prchase desicions much easier.
As for the "niche market", the market is so small just because people are uninformed and it's a real PITA to find reliable information on 3D sreteo. Most people playing games on a PC would love to do that in 3D stereo, but most of them think that things like that cost tousands of USD, which they could never afford. Even mentioning to someone that you can buy a 3D stereo monitor today for less than 600 EUR in Europe results in loud laughter and people calling you insane and stupid.
Anyway ... I've already ordered the iZ3D (yesterday, once the site came back up) after downloading the iZ3D beta drivers and testing it on a couple of games. I've also got me a "new" GeForce 7600 GS card today, which I'm now setting up on a new hard-drive, where I've installed Windows XP, just so I can see if the Zalman monitor is worth it, or if I should send it back to where it came from.

I am glad you have purchased the iz3d and a 7XXX. It means that you are a rare person able to give a an objective review... a good comparison between the two... as you say, it would be a diamond opinion amongst all the hype surrounding untested products.
Although, I see that you seem to have a lot of dosh... may I ask why you invested in a 8600GTS over an 8800GTX?
Especially in stereo where performance in stereo is heavily impacted, you would see a massive (well above 2x) improvement in FPS... or in other words, you could play the latest games in 1680x1050 iz3d native with everything maxed at 40fps+.
Also, about vista... from the benchmarks that I have seen, games tend to run faster on winXP... I guess the xp vs vista issue isn't too big a deal as its only a few percent, and even that due to unoptimized drivers.
Just trying to make your experience the best possible.
On the iz3d, I highly recommend hl2, portal, and the witcher. Oblivion runs awesome too.
A little heads up: You might notice a tint in each eye: you will get used to it!
Ghosting you will get used to too... it gets less and less with each driver revision.
Make sure you DISABLE VSYNC and TRIPLE BUFFERING or games will be ghosted in the most horrible way :P
Wish you all the best matey. Will keep an eye on this thread to hear your thoughts.

First off, I have to say that I have already completed the Portal a few weeks ago, with all its levels and all bonus maps. I was virtually glued to the chair playing it. I absolutely LOVE that game. But when playing it in 3D on the 19" Zalman monitor, it was more like a wrestling match between me and the monitor than anything else.
Here are the worst issues I have had playing Portal in 3D stereo with nVidia drivers and my 19" Zalman monitor ...
1) Ghosting is terrible. Really. Terrible.
I have had a really hard time finding a good spot for my head in relation to the monitor, set everything up so I might manage playing the game for longer, but ... it just isn't doable. My eyes burn like hell now (after only half an hour of playtime) and I think I'm going to throw up. For anyone who has played "The Witcher", the experience is very similar to that of being really really drunk in the game. If you can keep that up for long, you will be able to play in 3D for long with the Zalman monitor.
2) Interlace mode for getting 2 images on 1 screen was a really bad idea.
The vertical screen resolution is halved and the driver doesn't compensate this fact very well. After watching the demo movie on the CD which came with the monitor, I would have thought that things would also work out in games, but ... NOP, I was wrong. Since I've turned anti-aliasing off, it really hurt my eyes to look at all objects borders in-game. They were all sharp like a knife. Even the ones that should actually be nice and round (like the red round push-buttons on the ground that open doors). All lines which weren't at exact 90 degree angles loked like boxes on top of each other, which has further ruined my whole 3D experience.
3) Aiming in Portal using stereo 3D? No way.
I'd thought it would be easier, but it's completely wrong. I had to shoot the thing several times to place the portal where I wanted it, as the direction I was actually aiming was completely different from the position where the cross-hair was being displayed. Knowing that there are some really nasty stunts you have to pull off in flight at advanced levels, I won't even try going that far in stereo.
4) Text? Totally unreadable. I had to turn the stereo effect off and take off the glasses to read the menu and to click buttons between levels. This makes the Zalman monitor completely useless in any online game where you need to chat with other players. And that's where I was hoping to use it the most.
5) Left and Right screen edges? Shrinked to the inside, reducing the view from 1280x512 to something like 900x512, leaving some useless crap on screen border, which was constantly distracting while playing. Left eye would see part of the right eye image in it's right screen region, while the Right eye would see part of the left eye image in it's left screen region. Very annoying and tiresome to the eye.
I haven't see the iZ3D monitor yet, but images produced by their stereo driver looked a lot more promissing than the ones produced by the nVidia driver. At least, I can imagine that you can use it for displaying 2D *and* 3D content in any resolution, without compromises like here.
Bottom line for me is, this Zalman monitor was a total waste of my money. If I can, I will return it to the company where I've purchased it. If not, I will be placing it on eBay. In any case, I want to get rid of it.
To RAGEdemon:
I'm very sensitive to noise, which is why I've avoided all graphic cards with a Fan, and the GeForce 8600 GTS was the best thing I could find with a heatsink instead of a Fan. My CPU is only Dual-Core, and is being cooled with Zalman watercooling system using quite a big external radiator (heatsink), and my hard-drive is in a special casing which serves as noise-reduction and improves hard-drive cooling.
PS. I've also completed "The Witcher" (was dissapointed that I had no real choices at the end of the game - where it would matter), but would like to play it all again in stereo. That is, if I find a monitor which won't be giving me the same bad experience as the 19" Zalman monitor does.

Thats a real shame... i'm so sorry it didn't work out. Been, there... can never quite get rid of that sinking feeling inside for days after when u realize your large investment was a waste.
I had a similar experience with i-glasses a few years back. Absolutely horrible. NEVER trust i-o systems. To anyone reading this: NEVER EVER buy any of their products. EVER!
I am sorry to say that there is no auto convergence yet in iz3d, but there are 3 presets you can use to make things readable. In the witcher for example, I used one for gameplay, 2 for cutscenes/inventory.
About the aiming issue. there is no crosshair with the iz3d but the clever people there have did something very novel... instead of moving the double images equal distance apart to create seperation in the distance, they only move one image double the distance. this means that - ok - you will see 2 crosshairs, but you won't have to shoot in the middle - one will always be 100% accurate :P
It is more than playable.
I have to admit though, I did play portal with crosshair off.
Also sorry to hear about your sensitivity to sound. I am quite the opposite which is strange... I cant get to sleep without the 10 delta fans in my open case whirring, the 6 15krpm SCSIs shrieking, and a large fan blowing directly onto my face :P
If i dont have that sound, I simply cant sleep.
I'm being serious /fear.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fear:' />
From what I can recall, iz3d use express 3 working day shipping, so it should be with you either monday or Tuesday.
I look forward to hearing your impressions :P
Oh, better warn you. It will have the american style 3-pin plug so better have an adapter handy. The internals will be happy with anything from 110-240V IIRC.
Also a side note. I find the best image was preceived (least ghosting, clearest image) when polarised flat glass was used instead of the curved plastic perspex glasses you get with monitor. What I simply did was take out the left lens of an old pair of shutter glasses and turn it 90 degrees and stick it back on the best i could. Works like a charm. Tacky. But, who cares how you look when u'r knee deep in radioactive sewage with a red crowbar in one hand and a gravity gun in the other /w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00t:' /> :D

Since I have the monitor here and "Orange Box" is installed, I've tried playing "Half Life 2: Episode One" and "Team Fortress 2" to see if other games would be any better.
"Half-Life 2: Episode One" -> instead of gaining an additional dimension when watching things in 3D stereo, I've actually lost a lot of information because of very heavy ghost images - especially where light things were close to dark areas, you would see the white thing two or three times (1-2 ghost images).
"Team Fortress 2" -> The introductory movie was viewable, character selection was OK, game graphics were also OK, even though there were also some ghosting problems, but chat was completely unreadable. I had to guess what the others were typing.
Both games were (at least for me and with the 19" Zalman monitor) a lot better looking without the 3D stereo "effect".
Now, I'm curious at how the iZ3D will perform. I hope to get my hands on it next week. If anyone is interested, I can post comments on my personal experience with the iZ3D compared to the Zalman monitor. I have also ordered a separate pair of the "Blues Bothers" and "Be Cool" glasses, so I can see if there will be any difference using them instead of the ones that ship with the monitor.
PS. I've also tried the VR head-mounted display2 (I think it was called the i-Glasses) and the Relevator shutter glasses, and I can only share your disapointment.

Ragedemon is see your name is very appropriate. i would like to say that yes i believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but when you take it to the point of almost verbally abusing someone then you're bang out of oder.
The whole point of this site is a community where people help each other and trade ideas NOT to be a big head and put other people down.
stereoscopic 3d is a learning curve for a lot of people including me, and as it happens i needed to buy a new machine so i bought the best i could afford including a screen that can support 3d, this does not mean i've made a wrong choice, i'm just keen to see the results.
so next time, please engage your brain before egnagaing your mouth and being rude to people.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick there fella :)
"bang out of odor"? I bloody well hope so matey. I just showered this morning!
I think that maybe English isn't your primary language, and you didn't pick up on my humorous / sarcastic tone /w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00t:' />
Don't worry, Lets see if you can pick up on this one...
You know what really grinds my gears?
When some nub comes on and bitches about how a game has crappy performance and posts his "uber" specs, which invariably include THE top of the line Quad Core extreme edition CPU (at stock clocks mind you), 4GB of the FASTEST RAM (also at stock), a snazzy high rez WS 24" LCD with Vista... and a graphics card that is the equivalent of a dead donkey carcass being sodomized by vultures.
You are like "dude... why don't you upgrade your graphics card? get a better one?"
To which the poster - without fail - launches into what I call "the oliver twist" defence. "I did all the research and I got the best one I could afford. Boo Hoo. I am so poor. Shame on you for picking on poor old me!"
You are like
Everyone else is like /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' /> nub!
And the topic gets pushed down into obscuredom of page 354 of the forum as no-one can be bothered to reply to nubs anymore.
If the nub had in fact did even the tiniest bit of research he would have seen that he could have got a CPU and ram which was only 3% slower for a quarter of the price, and maybe invested in something beefier in the graphics realm. The nub in question would have had about 4x the performance and saved himself quite a bit /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
But usually that isn't even an issue as the nub usually plays games at 640x480 default rez and settings and thinks "antialiasing" is a dirty word that requires ones tongue to be cleaned with soap after utterance.
I wasn't talking about ur 8800GTS... its a damn fine card.
I was speaking to Oruq, who does understand me correctly, as you can see from our conversation.
But since i'm at it, I'll take a shot at you regardless: "this does not mean i've made a wrong choice"
When you knew it wouldn't work, and people on these boards and others have said in numerous threads that it wouldn't work but you go ahead and buy it anyway and surprise! it doesn't work! Then, my friend, YES! it bloody well does mean you made the wrong choice! :)
Why on earth not wait till you actually have stereo drivers for your card before making the zalman purchase... I just can't understand your logic /no.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
About your last line: I suggest you take your own advice /heart.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

We were all "nubs" at everything in some point in time. Being rude to someone who hasn't learned everything you know, will only show your arrogance. While 3D stereo is "an old thing" for some of the people in here, as you've said it yourself, 3D stereo is still a "niche market". In other words, not many people have had experience with it, so there will be a lot of "nubs" in 3D stereo.
As "ribuck" said, Forums like this are meant for experience exchange. I'm not saying you aren't being helpful, but I think it would benefit you and the way people look at you in this community if you would be more polite and less "LOL"-ish. Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing this to argue with you, nor to put you down. I think you're a nice guy, but your occasional emotional ourbursts are hurting your reputation.
To ribuck:
Did you have any luck trying out some of the games on the 22" Zalman? I'm curious if the interlace mode is any better there than on the 19" and if you can read text in games normally. Except for the requirement to play games in monitors native resolution (which is quite high on the 22" Zalman), interlace mode is the main reason I'm leaning more towards the iZ3D (not sure about the tinting problem there, though - need to see it first).
PS. If the iZ3D doesn't work out (if it has too much ghosting and tinting problems), I'm seriously considering to contact the guys I know from production and see how much it would cost to make a 3D planar setup with 2 monitors.

Hi, i have read this topic and im having serious doubts about buying a zalman 19"
I Use windows XP, got a 8800GTS 320, and E8400
Is there a driver supporting this system at the moment? or is it "coming" withing the next 500 years, it costs a hell load of money (im from south africa) and for the money im paying it should atleast be a High end LCD without the 3d, but it only has 1000:1 contrast and 5ms response,
i want to know if i should just buy a normal 22" inch 3000:1 and 2ms response LCD monitor for way less, or the zalman, cuase ive been waiting a long time to see the 3D effect, but dont want to be dissapointed when i have spent my money..
IS it worth it?
i pay about R4500 (south african Rand)
thats about 661$
PS: is the 2d mode as good as any HIGH end lcd monitor?

Thanks for the lecture but I'm quite happy being "LOL-ish" at "nubs" who moan about being a part of the community but then go and ignore what the community is saying and go do something nubish and then moan about it.
And please, before using the "poor old me" defense, take note of the fact that I am "LOL"-ing at your collective purchase decision and not your lack of knowledge of Stereo3D.
When Any community tells you something won't work and its been known for over a year that it flat out wont, but you go and do it anyway, then you can't lash out at other people when they "lol nub!" at you. Take responsibility for your actions. You made a conscious decision claiming to know the facts beforehand. Now live with it /hug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Speaking of community, what community are you referring to? nVidia stereo3d forum community?
I'll point out for the umpteenth time that most of the stereo3D community resides at www.mtbs3d.com, NOT here.
Most of the community rarely pay any attention to these forums and you can count yourself lucky to get a response. I rarely post here myself as I am usually too busy. But this particular thread got my goat.
My reputation for ranting is pretty well known and I assure you it is quite safe - but I thank you for your concern :)
Now look at how things are meant to work. And perhaps learn a thing or two:
Vivi here wants the monitor. Has he gone and compulsively bought it only to bitch about the lackluster support? No. He has come here and posted a question because he is not sure that it will work (gasp!). To which a helpful community member or two will point out to him, even though its already been stated a few times, the answer to his question.
Hello Vivi.
There are Rumors of something happening with the winxp driver which might or might not supports 8XXX cards AFTER the vista driver is out. At the moment, I wouldn't advise you to touch the Zalman with a barge pole. There is NO SUPPORT what so ever for your setup.
What I would recommend is that you maybe get a second hand monitor on eBay or something on the cheap and wait it out for a few months. If a winxp 8XXX driver does get released and works with games AND people have given the zalman positive review, then by all means buy the zalman and sell the LCD one you bought at pretty much the same price you bought it for in the first place. It is what most sensible people would do.
I personally have doubts about the zalman technology as it uses interlacing for stereo3D which isn't nearly as good as page flipping or the iZ3D technology. Even when the drivers do come out, I would guess that you would get a better effect using page-flipping mode on an old CRT which are dirt cheap nowadays. You could even buy a new 22" high end LCD and a cheap CRT when the drivers come out to see if you like the effect and switch between the two using the dual heads the 8800GTS has. Shutter glasses for the CRT are also dirt cheap.
Regarding Oruq's PS: Planer produces good results but you still need stereo drivers for your 8XXX
The best setup is using projector. No ghosting, 200" screen. And you can use the projector for movies and what not. But still, heavily relies on stereo drivers and will be pretty much as useless as the zalman without.

We apologize for the inclusion of the 64-bit information. The information pertains to all Vista Sterescopis drivers.
As for the Beta drivers, we are not at liberty to distribute the, but if we in fact find a source we shall attempt to direct you to compatible and reliable ones. WE thank you in advnace for your patience regarding this matter and hope to satisfy your needs in the near future.

I've also just received the E-Mail reply which I have been waiting for since wednesday. Here is the complete text ...

BTW, Chopper and I both have the iZ3d, and yes, you should have bought it instead - even with the "ghosting" issue
All the best,
RAGEdemon (aka rant-a-lot)
P.S. If the iz3d webby crashes, it will take time but there is nothing stopping you from doing it all over again

I'm being serious
Tacky. But, who cares how you look when u'r knee deep in radioactive sewage with a red crowbar in one hand and a gravity gun in the other

Oruq
"Half-Life 2: Episode One" -> instead of gaining an additional dimension when watching things in 3D stereo, I've actually lost a lot of information because of very heavy ghost images - especially where light things were close to dark areas, you would see the white thing two or three times (1-2 ghost images).
"Team Fortress 2" -> The introductory movie was viewable, character selection was OK, game graphics were also OK, even though there were also some ghosting problems, but chat was completely unreadable. I had to guess what the others were typing.

I think that maybe English isn't your primary language, and you didn't pick up on my humorous / sarcastic tone
You are like
Everyone else is like
And the topic gets pushed down into obscuredom of page 354 of the forum as no-one can be bothered to reply to nubs anymore.
If the nub had in fact did even the tiniest bit of research he would have seen that he could have got a CPU and ram which was only 3% slower for a quarter of the price, and maybe invested in something beefier in the graphics realm. The nub in question would have had about 4x the performance and saved himself quite a bit
I just can't understand your logic
About your last line: I suggest you take your own advice
And btw mister: It's Not Ragedemon. It's Not RageDemon. It Is in fact RAGEdemon thank you very much

Oruq

IS it worth it?
i pay about R4500 (south african Rand)
thats about 661$
PS: is the 2d mode as good as any HIGH end lcd monitor?
thanks-
Vivi

Now live with it
Speaking of community, what community are you referring to? nVidia stereo3d forum community?
