3D and antialiasing
Hi, i just heard that you don't really need to turn on antialiasing as you can't see it so well in 3D or 3D makes it own AA?
Are you using AA in your games? Anyone have some pictures with it on and off?

Yeah, perception is different. NoAA is not apparent , and lot less distracting ( not distracting at all, while in 2D you have to puke) .

-But its better with AA. (BTW, how do you want to check if you have no 3d display? :D )

http://iryoku.com/mlaa/ <- this would be better than MSAA (multisampling) cuz its basically free. Nvidia hurry up please, AMD cards already have it.

edit @ OP

That might be wishful thinking m'afraid. I still notice the jaggies and use FSAA though i struggle seeing the diff between levels higher than 4X.

What is nice is DoF (not the surround one) is totally redundant with s3d so that can be switched off!

edit: guess it must be subjective!

No its not ( "wishful thinking") . Theres some averaging going on in 3D , and less "noise".

If you are in 2d , aliasing is extremely annoying cause your mind has to "synthetise" the depth, anything that makes that process difficult ( aliasing) going to annoy you.

We also have viewing distance in the equation, usually your eyes& mind going to blend the picture either way, thats another form of AA.. etc. etc. this stuff is HARD. /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />

Just tried it.

When you look through one eye the jaggies are there and in the exact same place as when viewed in stereo.

BUT

as Trit says it is much less noticable. In 2D jaggies are really noticable and seem to be everywhere - nasty! There is so much information loss when you go from stereo to mono vision. Just another benefit of going stereo which is tricky to explain to folk who haven't the pleasure.

thanks for answers. BTW i have 3D display and the Nvidia 3D kit so i could see the difference if pics were posted.
I guess i'll just try it out myself when i get back from work :)

Playing at a high resolution also helps with AA being disabled. My render target for all games is 1920x1080. I can almost get away with no AA.

You need AA then. That's not enough pixel information to decrease aliasing.

Hehe, yep that's what I was alluding to. :)

Anyone know why the nv control panel won't force AA in the Tron game?
