Your monitor is 3D Vision 2 compatible. All you need is the 3D Vision 2 glasses and emitter. The package together may cost around $150, but it seems they are hard to find right now for some reason.
While you can play with 3D Vision Discover, if you like, the quality will be sub-par and it's not anywhere close to the real 3D shutter glasses. That said, if you are really on a tight budget, you can try the Pro-Ana glasses ( http://www.3dstereo.com/viewmaster/gla-proa.html ) which are $7. Certainly more affordable, but you get what you pay for.

If you have a passive 3DTV w/ glasses, then you will need to check if Nvidia 3DTV Play is supported. This works via HDMI 1.4a, but unfortunately not every TV will work. You can download the 3DTV Play demo for free and see if it works. Otherwise you can try the TriDef Ignition driver in line-interleaved mode.
Please keep in mind that passive glasses don't work on active monitors (if that is what you are asking). So either you use your HDTV with the glasses it came with, or you use the Nvidia glasses on your monitor. They are not interchangeable.

A display that uses polarized glasses has a special film pattern retarded installed on top of the screen and is considered "passive". Your BenQ monitor does not have it.
Please familiarize yourself with the technology.

Your BenQ monitor uses "active shutter glasses" and will only work with Nvidia's active shutter glasses and emitter.

Anaglyph will work on your display.

The thing with 3D Vision Discover is that it's not red/cyan like everyone elses red/cyan anaglyph.
The blue in 3D vision Discover is a shade or two off from cyan. This causes there to be more ghosting due to the color being off.
Nvidia used to give away paper glasses with GPUs a long time ago and also sold them on their website.
It's hard to find a pair that work well with 3D Vision Discover. Users have resorted to registry hacks in order to change the color or they have fabricated their own glasses using the proper shaded filter material.

Here's a thread talking about editing anaglyph colors in the registry
can u suggest me which glasses are best for my screen(benq xl2420z) red n blue or polarized
Since you are on a budget- start with the Red/Blue glasses and the Discover mode.
The color of the output can be tweaked in the registry, but start simple. Just use any red/cyan glasses you have.
The polarized glasses won't work, skip those.

Umm, because it sends the sync signal to the glasses and acts as a product key to unlock 3D vision.
