Problem Using HDMI Output / DVI Input Notebook and Monitor have limited input/output options
I have a notebook capable of nVidia's 3DVision with HDMI 1.4 and VGA outputs (No DVI). The external 3DVision monitor I want to get only does 3D with a Dual-Link DVI-D input.
From what I've read, the only HDMI cable that is electrically compatible with Dual-Link DVI is the Type B, which as far as I know hasn't actually been produced yet. Also, I understand that the specs for HDMI 1.4 limit the refresh rate to 24Hz for 1080p, which is rather low, although I don't know if the video card (460M) is capable of forcing 120Hz somehow.
So, do you have any thoughts on how to connect this monitor?
As I mentioned, the only other output my notebook has is VGA. If I still want an LCD monitor and no HDMI->DVI converter exists for my particular case, would it be reasonable to look for a different one that can do 1680x1050 (306 MHz of the 400MHz of the VGA spec) at 120Hz?

I have simillar problem. I have ASUS M60J notebook and i bought today Samsung 2233rz LCD also i havent DVI conector on NB and try to solve it with HDMI -> DVI reduction but i cant run 120hz mode even on 1680x1050 resolution. I tryed to create this resolution manually in Nvidia Control panel, but it displays me "Check signal cable". Somebody have some solution?
EDIT: also i have DisplayPort which is not so common, possibly i can use this one?

Thanks for replying. Have you tried lower resolutions, like 1280x720 or 1280x800 at 120Hz?
Also, the HDMI 1.3/1.4 cable thing is confusing to me, but you might need at least an HDMI 1.3 cable. Of course I've read plenty of websites that say HDMI 1.3 cables are a scam and you don't need them, but like I said, I'm confused /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />
I think the DisplayPort might work for you with a converter/adapter to Dual-Link DVI. Nearly $100, though :( But I've read DisplayPort will be the preferred method of connecting monitors to PCs in the future.

Changing resolution ive tryed, but aggain 800*600 not supported 120Hz, today also i get in work DP -> DVI reduction, but LCD is not running under it :(. Also today i have call with Support from Samsung but only they can say to me is, display is crtyfied for Vista and we cant offer you any help if you are using Windows 7. So instead of answers a have lot of new questions. I will put any news i will get.
