However, all Panasonics lack checkerboard mode so you would be forced to game in ugly scaled 720P resolution, or sluggish 30 Hz Frame Sequential mode which is too slow for gaming. that's why it's impossible to get a satisfactory gaming experience with any TV other than a samsung, the only 3DTV to offer checkerboard.

Are u sure about 720p? the specifications clearly state full hd. /www.panasonic.nl/html/nl_NL/Panasonic+producten/Viera+TV%27s/FullHD3D/TX-P42GT20/specifications/198957/index.html?trackInfo=true
Would this be a good TV for 3D vision? SAMSUNG LE40C750
It says it uses 200hz, but is it "real" 200hz? I looked at samsung site and it says native @ 60hz.
Though this link suggest that it is supported...www.nvidia.co.uk/object/3dtv-play-requirements-uk.html#3dtvs
And acoording to this:
www.3dmovielist.com/3dhdtvs.html
When u press on shutterglasses, none of the tv accomponied shutterglasses are compatible with nvidia 3d vision, just like nvidia shutter glasses can't be used for the tv. Is this true..?
I just have no idea what tv to buy or where to ask.. I want the full experience... i dont want to end up buying a limited tv..

HDMI will limit you to 60hz at only 720p. Anything 1080p is going to be 24hz. I dont think there is a single display that can get around this unless they are not using hdmi. I think this is issue #1 for 3d and its probably got a lot of people saying, 3d isnt that good. Its a huge problem. It means hdtv is not for gaming...yet. Its sad to know that all the people that bought these hdtvs are limitted by this. The nvidia monitors are not limitted.

Really is that so? so you get chopped framerate no matter what 3DTV you use?
What about the Acer GD245HQbid Normal monitor for example. is it able to utilise 3d fully as it is ment for gaming? 60hz each eye?

The 65" Mitsubishi DLP is great at 1080p checkerboard. but i dont think you can get those in Europe. Like others have said- the new HDMI 1.4a 3d tv's are a big disappointment. They lack true HD gaming modes(checkerboard is not true HD), and all of them have bad ghosting problems. I actually really wanted to upgrade this year- but after witnessing all of the new models in person- i realized my Mitsubishi DLP is still the best big screen tv for 3d gaming. its cheap (65" for 1000$), has zero ghosting, and has GREAT picture quality after you calibrate it.
I would recommend considering a DLP 720p projector. You can get these in Europe. I just bought one, and i love it. gaming on a 120" 3d screen more than makes up for the slight loss of resolution compared to checkerboard 3d. Honestly my dlp tv has been feeling neglected since i got the projector. IF i could only have one i would go for the projector. nearly identical image quality, but so immerse on the huge screen. you can pick up a acer projector for 600$ and its fully 3d vision ready no hacking necessary. Plus you dont need as fast of a computer, so you can save money there too. 3d gaming is still super lame as far as high end set ups go. my computer is so overkill at 720 in 3d. i run as much Image quality settings as possible and it still never slows down in metro 2033 at max settings! it will handle crysis 2 in 3d no problem. even at 1080p checkerboard the PC eats up every game no problem at max settings.
skip this generation of HDTV, unless you can get a Mitsubishi DLP, or have money to blow on a overpriced Samsung. Go for the projector or a 1080p computer monitor.

no chopped frame-rate on any tv with 1080p checkerboard mode.

What about the guy who said hdmi could only handle 24 hz..? That means 24 fps right..?
As for the projector
It says for example:
Upto 3000 hour lamp life, filter free operation
1-year parts and lable warranty, 90 days lamp
That means if you game 16 hours a day it will be broken within less then a year.
Also I got an 42 inch Plasma Panasonic Full HD TV without 3D. I was planning on selling it and buying a replacement with 3D.
Projector is limited, I also have consoles, and you would need to paint your wall white or something? And Monitor's also don't support 3d gaming console..
And to buy an 24 inch Computer monitor instead of 40-42 inch 3DTV Plasma, really leaves me doubting because I like the 42 inch size, but I like the 3d effect aswell.
So that's why im not particular interested in a Monitor and projector I want to be done with one screen.
Sure I could wait but it should be possible now with the right screen at the right price. When would approx the next generation 3d tv's hit anyway?

no, 60hrz on HDMI checkerboard. other poster was talking about 3dtvplay tv's. \
replacement lamps are cheap, and realistically who games for 16 hours a day? thats just the recommended life, you could get much more out of it. Plasma tv's also burn out, and cannot be serviced. do what u want, but i would keep the 2d plasma as a monitor and use the projector for 3d gaming. use a wall or build a cheap screen. lots of info on this site about projectors, they are the best 3d system to date. that would save the bulb life. the computer monitor can do 1080p 120hrz 3d. much superior to 3d tv's, but they are smaller.
well if you get the small 3d plasma, at least get the sammy- since you can use the 1080p60hrz checkerboard mode. the other models are not so good at scaled 720p. sammy can do checkerboard if you can hack the EID. checkerboard on the sammy is not plug and play, so do your research before hand. maybe someday 3dtv play will support it.

Its a limitation of HDMI, HDMI doesn't have enough bandwidth to handle more than 720p/60fps or 1080p/24fps. So doing 3D at 1080p resolution at 60fps is an impossibility with current HDMI hardware.
AMD is coming out (or has come out, not sure) with its own 3D technology that uses HDMI (not dual-link DVI) and thus AMD's 3D runs into HDMI's bandwidth problems.
Check out this quote from TOM'S HARDWARE (about AMD's new 3D technology and the limitations of HDMI for 3D; source HERE):
Because AMD utilizes the HDMI 1.4a specification, which boasts a maximum TMDS throughput of 10.2 Gb/s, you can either game in stereo at 720p maxing out at 60 frames per second per eye, or you can game at 1080p with up to 24 frames per second per eye. That's actually pretty severe, considering we've been playing around with 5760x1080 using 3D Vision Surround and dual-link DVI connectors (each display running at 1920x1080). AMD says it'll transcend the shackles of HDMI 1.4a later this year when more monitor vendors begin incorporating DisplayPort 1.2. A peak effective bandwidth of 17.28 Gb/s is enough to enable 1080p at 60 frames per eye.

I would assume it would work with 3D Vision for the same reason the Samsungs work, it uses it's own emitter and glasses, not the Nvidia glasses/emitter.

Thanks for your reply.

We try to keep our system requirements pretty easy.
If you want to use 3D Vision, here are the supported displays http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Requirements.html
If you want to use an HDMI 1.4 3D TV, you need 3DTV Play software and here are the supported displays http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-requirements.html

no, 60hrz on HDMI checkerboard. other poster was talking about 3dtvplay tv's. \
replacement lamps are cheap, and realistically who games for 16 hours a day? thats just the recommended life, you could get much more out of it.

We already support 1080p60 over DL DVI today. Its great to see AMD delivering the same features we have had now for over a year. :)
