Its a silver screen with a rough sandy surface. When im watching it almost seems like its tiny crystals which reflect light. The reflection level is incredible but drops like a brick as the viewing angle increases...
I am semi impressed with it for howmuch I paid. The frame could be better but the screen itself is great...

that sounds rather like a glass beaded... And thats not silverscreen, and not so cool cuz
1. you shouldn't see those tiny things at all
2. worse yet it can't be cleaned
3. retroreflective
If the light is reflected back towards the beamer -> retroreflective (glass beaded) unsuitable for ceiling mount pj
Da-lite makes a professional glass beaded screen that can be cleaned , and the tiny mirror things are even tinier , plus it has no hotspot.
_______________________
A "true" silverscreen is angular reflective , therefore inherently suitable for ceiling mounting , but. It should give hotspots, and DIY is pretty hard, but doable.

Yes, you are pretty much bang on. I mounted the projector behind me because initially when it was on the ceiling it was not reflecting very well. Now its very good for the 2 people sitting in the middle, bu for anyone sitting at more than 45 degrees from the middle, the reflection light drops pretty fast.
The good thing is that it stays uniform once you are 50-60 degrees from the middle and light doesn't change after that.
As a user who will usually sit in the middle, I like it a lot...but it wouldn't be ideal for a home theater usage.
Here are the exact specs on the screen - http://www.elunevision.com/pro-cinema-gray.html
