Broken 3D bluray playback since 'fake' 3D driver introduced (unfixable)
1 / 10
When watching a 3D bluray with powerDVD 14 (I've also tried PowerDVD 13 and total media theatre 6)
there is a blurring/artifacting around moving objects that makes me feel sick.
I have spent days trying to fix this.
3D playback works fine for SBS or 720p 3D but with a 3D bluray it is sickness inducing. It's like some objects render at the wrong depth or the glasses lenses are out of sync.
When the camera changes you can see it almost swipe from right to left or visa versa.
I have tried different HDMI cables, players, blurays etc to no avail.
I can replicate this on my panasonic pt-at6000e projector and on my Panasonic ST30 50" plasma.
Rolling back to 327.23 fixes all the issues. I have the same problem with 340.43 and 340.52.
It might work with different drivers but I got bored of wasting time trying to find a work around for Nvidia's sloppy quality assurance testing.
I have to keep rolling back drivers to watch a 3D 1080p bluray then updating to play Plants Vs zombies garden warfare etc as the game won't load without a recent driver.
I have even sent my projector back to get repaired because of this issue and I'm far from impressed.
The CTRL + alt+ f11 doesn't work with powerdvd either.
Also when watching a 3D bluray on these latest drivers with SLI enabled the audio is out of sync!
Who tests these drivers? Stevie wonder?
Please advise.
Im running windows 8.1 and have a nvidia 690gtx and a haswell 4770k

Windows 8.1 has a lot of issues with 3d. This isn't one I've heard of before, but it's a possible culprit. The other thing you could try is inverting sync. Your video player should have this option (might be called reverse eyes).

I have the same problem. It occurs in fast scenes, it is unwatchable. the workaround for me is to watch movies in 720@60Hz. I've changed the configuration in powerdvd. I´m sure that it was introduced in a driver update.

I think it's when they introduced fake 3D into the drivers. It's a shame as 1080p 3D is so much better than 720p.
This must be a problem going back nearly half a year by the looks of it.
At least I know my projector isn't borked!
Nvidia should let us be able to choose a 24hz refresh rate in 2D mode if stereoscopic 3D is enabled in the control panel too. It's such a faff changing all the settings to watch a 2D, again for a 3D film and again to game.
Infact when you add in the hidden convergence key bindings no mention of how to swap between fake and real 3D (Ctrl alt f11) you can't help but feel it's the most unintuitive software I have ever used.
I've seen knockoff MP3 players from Singapore with more user friendly menus and settings!
It's like they get this amazing tech then cripple it with a bad interface and drivers that are not tested properly.
I can't believe for a second that no one at nvidia has watched a 3D bluray in the last 6 months and not noticed this problem!
Thanks for the link but there's no way I'm going to find which was the last driver that worked! It's taken me long enough to get this far!
They said they charged for 3D tv play due to the testing and driver support!?!
I've paid my money, where's my support?
The amount of people who come round my house and love the 3D but say it's too much messing about for them and want something that just works. Such a shame.
Nvidia need to update their GUI and 3D support.
We need profiles we can make to set refresh rate etc. 1080p 24hz for 2D, 1080p 24hz for 3D, (without having to enable/disable stereoscopic 3D in the nvidia control panel) 1080p 60hz (or higher) for gaming etc.
We also need HDMI 2.0 and displayport support for 3DTV Play as well as 4k support.
To think the amount of people who have tried this in the last 6 months and just dismissed 3D as not working right and moved on.
It's not good for the tech or for nvidia's profits!
It's like I'm watching a ship sail past on course to crash into some rocks but no one on the ship seems to bothered about steering it away to save it!

Yep, noticed this a while ago and thought it was related to a driver update, but didn't bother investigating as l play most of my 3d bluray movies in ISO form on my xmedia8 media player. If I really need to play a 3d movie off disk, I use my ps4. Either way, both options gives me a picture equally as good as Power DVD 13 on my pc, while playback is 100 percent reliable, meaning no drop frames, which is something I always get when attempting to play 3d movies on pc, regardless weather they're from disk or in ISO form.

It would be nice to know if nvidia are actually aware of the problem.
Might have to have a look at getting one of these media boxes as I too get the odd dropped frame and I'm getting tired of jumping through hoops attempting to get things to work.
EDIT:
Just realised that I can't choose a 4k resolution now for my 4k monitor using this old driver that works with 3D!
Come on nvidia,3D bluray playback is a biggy and has been broken for a long time.
We need a hotfix!

Yeah it seems NVIDIA are really slacking on the 3D front lately.
I do really recommend the 3d Mede8er range of 3d media players. Mine has taken all the hassle out of 3d blu ray ISO playback.
3D in 4k must have looked amazing for gaming. Use 3D play TV, so stuck with 720p @ 60Hz.

Number 1? I could be wrong but I thought you didn't even need it for 3D Blu Ray playback just something like PowerDVD to output in the TVs supported 3D format ...
Yah in the early days 3DTV Play was needed so that it would work properly. It used to be that the Blu-ray 3D option was not in the control panel.
Eventually they wizened up because of 1.4 HDMI licensing compliance agreements, I think.
I'm pretty sure you need 3dtv play to watch powerdvd in 3D. If it isn't enabled in the nvidia control panel all I get is 2D when watching a 3D movie.
I tried installing the latest driver (driver only and no other options selected in custom install) and there is no stereoscopic 3D option in the nvidia control panel after doing so.
Does anyone have a work around?
Maybe nvidia could add profiles for powerdvd and other media players in geforce experience? Where we can set refresh rates for 3D and 2D independently of windows refresh rate.
I think that would be the best way.
That or at least just make it work like it does with the older drivers.

there is a blurring/artifacting around moving objects that makes me feel sick.
