Well, it looks like the GTX 9800 is supported, not sure about GT 9800. GT 8800 is supported though, so it's pretty likely. 640 LE is definitely supported. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/3d-vision/supported-gpus?page=3 You can definitely play in Discover mode (red/cyan), and the glasses you are looking at should work. Since it seems like you are on a budget, I'm not sure I'd put any money into those glasses, if you can get free red/cyan glasses someplace. You can often get the paper versions for free in DVDs, or with magazines and other stuff. There isn't a large difference between paper versions and the plastic versions. If you use these older GPUs, you should know in advance that your frame rates will be pretty slow. 3D requires the image to be drawn twice, so you'll effectively half whatever you are presently getting in FPS. You can compensate by lowering resolution, or turning off graphic features. In Battlefield 3, you are going to be pretty heavily limited by your GPUs. The 640 LE is supported, but the 9800 is below the minimum specs for the game. It's worth a try though. Only you can decide if it's acceptable or not. Just know going in that you are on the very lowest end of the performance, even with the 640M LE. In any case, yep, you should be able to make this work with your current hardware. 3D is really a compelling experience, and I think you'll have fun with it. Especially if you can start with Discover(red/cyan) and see how you like it. Be sure to look into HelixMod for any other games. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/07/game-list-full.html Try Trine if you have it. Not real demanding on hardware, and looks fantastic in 3D. If you have any problems setting it up, come back and ask us.

But definitely try it. And there are plenty of less intensive games that look great in 3D, like Portal 2 or Half Life 2

True, but if you have to play using a 9800, it seems like $2 might still count. Not judging either way. I've been there, and I'd rather play in 3D no matter what. The other thing is that I don't think these will exactly match the NVidia red/cyan, so paper versions will be just as good. If you can find the specific NVidia version, they are noticabley better.
