About to take the 3d plunge (Am I doing this right?) Need to double check my 3d knowledge before i d
I am planning on getting a new acer GD235HZ along with fermi 470 card with glasses and transmitter to go 3d on my computer.
I was wondering if anyone has a similar setup in which they also connected a 3dtv like the samsung 63c8000 plasma as a secondary montior.
Since these are supposedly using the same 3d techniques shouldn't i be able to clone these displays and have them both automatically go into 3d mode when 3d content is being displayed?
They are both 3d and 1920x1080 resolution, i just want to make sure this will work like it is supposed to.

No can do... They don't use the same method for achieving 3D.
First of all, the TV does not support 1080p for anything other than 3D bluray playback, which is 24hz. For gaming it is limited to 720p. Its the limitation of technology used in the new 3D tvs...specifically the HDMI chips which are too slow to accept 1080p 3D.
However this won't work even if you set both displays to 720p.
The plasma gets 60 hz signal and both images in the single frame and then the 120 hz pannel flashes it twice. so signal is 1280x1440@60hz
The lcd monitor receives 120 hz signal and 3D is in frame sequential format. Signal needed for monitor is 1270x720@120hz

In which everyone seems to think it might work since the samsung support checkerboard input.
However nobody seems to be able to confirm it working or not with the samsung 3d glasses.

Haha, I posted with the manual screenshot in this thread. This was back in the day when 3D stuff was being sorted.
That TV does support checkerboard, however it lacks the 3D sync plug which 3D vision glasses use to sync with checkerbord DLP displays. So you can't use the 3D vision glasses with the checkerboard option, and the samsung glasses are not supported by 3D vision out of the box.
You need to wait for 3D TV play stuff and drivers to be sorted out...then you will be able to use Samsung glasses with your plasma and play PC content and games on it. However you will never be able to clone your desktop between the 3D monitor and 3D plasma and have them both work at the same time.

Glasses aren't aware of anything. They just shutter on/off no matter which format you use and sync up with the emitter. For 3D vision emitter is in the Nvidia USB base, for samsung glasses its in the TV. Samsung glasses can not sync with the 3D vision emitter...without upcoming 3D TV Play drivers.
I am actually unsure about what you are trying to do...
Use checkerboard format on your plasma and 3D vision? Clone the 3D monitor display to the plasma and have both running in 3D?

I currently have my main computer right next to my entertainment center in my living room. I am not married ;)
Anyways, i am wanting to be able to do 3d on my computer by myself and then also give the option for anyone else in the room to switch inputs on the samsung and still get the full 3d effect.
I do not care that they are not using the same trasmitter or pair of glasses i don't even need them to really be in sync.
I guess i won't really know if this will work or not until 3dtv goes live.
