Should I upgrade to a ROG ASUS Swift? 3D Vision is what I primarily use..
Hi guys, I am thinking of getting a gtx 980. Currently, I have an ASUS 120hz 3Dvision 2 monitor. It is the one with the 3D emitter that is built in. Now, I usually run the games at 1440p through downsampling, but my screen is 1080p, so it just makes the image more squishy to reduce AA. Would it be worth it for me to upgrade my monitor to the ROG for proper 1440p 3D vision gaming? Will I notice a massive difference in quality, moving from 1080p to 1440p? Is it worth the price? Thanks.

Absolutely not. There are so many people who have had problems using that monitor in 3D, you don't want to become one of them. Just browse these forums to see for yourself. If you're looking for an upgrade, consider a 3D projector.

You can go for this screen only under one condition - you got only one gtx980 and you don`t want to upgrade to SLI ! If you think this way then you good. This Screen is great. Resolution and Picture quality is Amazing. You`ll be happy with everything and you won`t have any problems only if you stay away from SLI.

Most of the problems are with SLI setups, but with newer titles, you'll need to go SLI sooner or later anyway. As for a projector, the resolutions available in 3D are 720p@60hz, or 1080p@24hz. That sounds rubbish, however you'll find that with a projector, 720p/60hz actually looks great. As for fitting it into a small office, that's kindof up to you. You'll probably want to look at the BenQ W1080ST. It's the same as the W1070, but it's a short throw projector designed for smaller spaces. You can project onto a white wall and it will look great (that's what I do). Maybe you have a shelf where you could put it, and project onto the opposite wall? They do generate heat though, so if you're in a warm climate or don't have good air conditioning, it might be a bit unpleasant in summer. You can use this to calculate whether you'll be able to accommodate one. http://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-W1080ST-projection-calculator.htm

Yea, i do want to sli. But only for then oculus rift once it comes out. I got caught up in the gtx 970 debacle and may get a refund and a 980. i am happy with one card solution, but is this sli problem fixable at driver level, or is it hardware? Also is the 1440p quality somuch better than 1080p? Is it 900 dollars better? I have never seen 1440p , only dsr

1440p 3D is ridiculous. Even my 780 ti struggles to get simple games running at perfect 60 with that. The image is cleaner on the monitor but if you downsample through DSR, the projector's giant screen covering most of your field of view will immerse you much better than a small 27' monitor.

These are games i am playing in 3D with great SLI (gtx680) support on ROG Swift: Max Payne 3, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham (all of them), Metro (all), Dragon Age Inquisition, Dying Light, Shadow of Mordor, Dead Space (all), Just Cause 2, Borderlands (all). Didn`t check Bioshock and Skyrim - which i will when i download them back. Other games don`t need them or plays good on single gpu like Far Cry 4. All Ubisoft`s games don`t work in SLI on this monitor so you got Assassins, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell and Far Cry Franchises. This higher resolution looks amazing especially when you have old (Full HD) monitor and you look back at it from time to time. Also the Monitor itself does great job with picture quality. If you ask me how is that price wise i say not good. This might be epic but should be without this all struglle we had at the beginning. It is just easier to handle this all after people figured what to do when shit happends - like that out of sync picture. Go for it only when price drops or new Predator wont be an option.
