3d surround probems wit a 690
Hi I have a 690 with 3 acer VG278H 27" I can enable 3d surround but the two outside monitors do not go into 3d fully, I can see the two 3d frames super imposed over each other even with the glasses on with obvious gosting and they do not have any 3de depth. the center monitor goes into 3d perfectly with no gosting at all. im guessing either the glasses arent syncing with the outside monitors or they arent going into 120hz. the monitors are all connected by dvi d cables that came with the monitors. (do i need to use a display port to dvi d adaptor instead of the third dvi d connector on the card or is it some other issue?) any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've running my GTX 690 with 3d surround and I've never seen that problem. I'm just using three dual link DVI cables, no need to use display port. Very rarely, I've had to turn one or two of the monitors off then on again when in 3d mode, because they've come up with an error saying that I'm not using the right cable. You could try swiching monitors and cables around to troubleshoot the problem.

I too run a GTX690 in 3D Surround without this problem. Ihe suggestion above is a good one. I would systematically switch cable connections and see if it is the monitors or the cables.

Also a problem I've read is that all 3 monitors must have matching EDIDs. I read where a user had the same problem, he had initially bought one monitor. Several months later he bought two more, the thing is, the EDID in the eeprom was different. So he had to use an EDID override to slove the problem. Also, make sure you are connected to Dual Link DVI-D outputs and not Single Link DVI-D outputs.

Hi Thanks for the replies, I have had some luck. at the moment 2 monitors are working. i plugged the monitors in separately and ran them through the 3d wizard. to get the first faulty monitor working i had to plug it in, turn on and then reboot the computer, then while the computer was on the second time and the dvi cable connected , unplug the monitor for 20 second and then retry the 3d wizard before it would work,(a rather contrived but effective solution i found on the net which worked first time to my amazement) however the last monitor will not turn on to 3d no matter what combination of dvi sockets or pattern of rebooting i try, (ive been at it for 3 hours now and have checked all the leads which work fine on the other monitors) I read some where else some one having problems initializing a 3rd monitor in 3d surround with windows 8 and the most recent 310 drivers (the same combination as me) is anyone having any problems in win 8? (oh and i bought the monitors at the same time from the same supplies and they look identical, where would i find the EDIDs to confirm?) Thanks fdor all the help.

You can use monitor asset manager, it's a free download from EnTech Taiwan. That's only if they're not working at the same time. You should first comfirm that each monitor is working indidually with the others disconnected. Also in device manager, I would think that you'd see a listing for each monitor. If two were listed and one was plug and play, that could be the problem. Just a guess on my part.

Maybe it's something to do with Windows 8 as well, but it's really strange that you can't enable 3d on one of the monitors. Is that with only that screen attached?

OK found the initial problem, the third monitor had a hardware fault unfortunately a new problem has reared its infuriating head (for anyone else with a similar problem to my original one, if you check in the information box on the screens menu and see and error message - IR receiver not connected- or similar you most likely have a faulty screen and asus will send you out a replacement) however now all screens will individually initialise 3d on their own but when i try to go into 3d surround one screen power's down (not the new one but one that was previously working in 3d surround and and works on its own) and the game (both skyrim and guild wars 2) crashes after a lot of flickering on and off. it also caused a BSOD one of the times. kinda at my wits end at this stage! don't suppose anyone has had a similar problem? oh had to reinstalling the drivers to get the new screen to work. cheers!

nope but there is a less painful way. try to set the 690 into single screen or SLI disable mode reboot your PC when it goes back into window, set nVidia control panel to enable all displays (not Surround View yet) make sure 1 + 2 + 3 are lined up as 1 + 2 + 3 and not some mix like 2+1+3 or any weird combination like that once you have the monitors cables matched up to 1, 2, 3 go and enable Surround View follow the nVidia control panel instructions and plug the cables where they supposed to go on each port it wants you to plug into. now all 3 monitors should work properly without much of a pain in 3D surround view

Hi cheers for the reply I actually managed to get it working though an evening of trial and error and was just about to post how I thought I didit which in retrospect was pretty much what you posted in your comment! Thanks for all the replies everyone and especially Allgamer who saved me having to parse the exact steps I had to take to initialise the 3d (out of the countless other ineffective sequences I tried last night!) and then write it down in a clear and understandable manner (on a phone as well)
