!Very frustrated and disappointed long time Nvidia customer!
I've been an avid Nvidia user for a long time (I remember having a RIVA TNT2).
I've now got a GeForce GTX 590 (3gB) and a 23 inch Full HD LED 3D monitor (Samsung Syncmaster S23A700) for christmas, and it works great. I can see videos in stereoscopic 3d, and even play games that have support for stereoscopic 3d (Eg. Crysis 2), and it all looks superb.
However, for the past few days, I've been trying to get it to work with the Nvidia driver to have it work in any game, and not only the games that have their own support for it.
And as it turns out, it's not possible. At least not without buying extra Nvidia branded equipment.
My monitor already comes with perfectly working 3d shutter glasses.
I've even watched 3D Vision videos on YouTube, and they all look great.
Furthermore, 3D vision DOES support old anaglyph red/cyan 3d glasses with no problem.
Why should I lash out thousands of $$$ on GeForce cards and 3D monitors, when I can't use it for ****?
I don't see why we should be enforced to buy expensive 3d glasses that do the same thing as the ones I already have.
All the damn driver has to do is render two pictures side-by-side, and any worthy 3D monitor will be able to display it in 3D.

Put the BLAME where it lies....
Samsung opted to buy support from TriDef. TriDef did not give it to them free.
Samsung opted not to buy Nvidia 3D Vision certification. Nvidia is not giving it to them for free.
Well the issue with samsung is they didnt want to pay nvidia. Tridef gave support for free (I believe).
The whole system of making monitor developers pay is pretty stupid imo. Side by side is locked out for this reason which just causes much confusion and makes 3D more of a niche. Making developers pay for a liscense is just going to make companies less likely to make 3D monitors. If the asus vg278h is the last 3D monitor I would not be surprised.

The one who came up with the idea to make money from screenmanufacturers really needs to be put away before he makes more damage. Isn't it clear that it causes confusions about supported screens, a "compabilitylist" which is not one bit correct, confusion if new screens are about to be supported etc (just to mention this issue only....). In the long run it will hurt nvidia too but as i said before: no one are interested in long term investment but are instead only out for the short bucks. I wonder how many great inventions we would have been without if it always had been like this.
If this was the only way to make 3d-vision acceptable for the stockholderpack then nvidia should had stayed out of 3d from the very beginning.

I, in no way agree with the way Nvidia is handling their support of Displays. I agree they are simply alienating customers, both new and old.

Samsung has another SyncMaster on the supported page.
3D Vision as well as 3DTV Play have never supported side-by-side.
The only way to get 120hz fullhd is through dual-link DVI.
I don't know any monitor that supports 120hz fullhd on both ATI and Nvidia.
By using your 3D solution of choice (tridef) you can output side-by-side.
As far as I know the latest 3D Vision monitor is VG278HE.
3D Vision is a closed ecosystem and there is significant work to make sure that all existing
3D Vision glasses will work with every monitor.

I'm as frustrated with Nvidia's consumer stereoscopic policy as anyone.
There is sooo much that they could do and should do.....and are very capable of doing!
You can only wonder if their hands are tied by some derelict in upper management.

I'd assume that you are talking about the Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ ....it's a 1680x1050 resolution monitor that was discontinued a long time ago.
I bought the S23A700 knowing it was unsupported, but I'm a Samsung fanboy and bought it anyways.

The only 120Hz sterescopic displays not supported by AMD via TriDef software at 120Hz, are those that rely on Nvidia USB drivers for their emitter and glasses.

Your monitor clearly havve the ability to recieve 3D.
It doesn't really mean that Nvidia has any obligation at all to deliver 3D to that monitor.
Owning a geforce card does not make you entitled to their 3d driver regardless of what monitor you use.
The PC 3D scene is like the HDDVD vs Blu-ray war in slow motion.
There are many 3D capable Components but they only work if combined properly.
