You have to try games!!!!! Movies will never show the true stereoscopic capabilty of that monitor.
Using the shortcut keys max depth, you will see a bar graph displayed indicating the adjustment.
Unfortunately, convergence has no indication of the adjustment applied other than visual. So what you need to do is adjust convergence while peeking over your glasses and watch the images on the screen.
Sometimes you have to hold the convergence keys for an extended period of time before the adjustment begins.(like almost a minute)
There are some games where convergence is locked and unadjustable, in this case it is possible to find workarounds.
You really should read this thread...... https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/467750/3d-vision/toyification-a-list-of-games-that-achieve-this-effect-please-submit/

Are you sure you're using a DUAL LINK DVI cable and not just a regular one?

In the above picture the one on the top is the DUAL LINK cable and the bottom one is a regular DVI (single link) cable.
Here's another picture to help you identify the differences:

hi on 14 january 2013 Asus finally emailed me, this is all they had to say..Apologies for the delayed response to your email regarding an explanation to your 3D issue.
Please be advised that we had forwarded the query on to our senior technicians for advice.
While VG278H is displaying in 3D mode, if the AC supply is cut off, then AC supply is plugged in, the 3D emitter will stop working and monitor will display in 2D mode. This is due to design.
Please restart 3D display in NVIDIA control panel.
so they just do not understand they are shipping products that are extremely hard to set up ! i didnt kill power to monitor and switch 3d off as they seem to think , jesus ill have to try and explain it to them again...how do you think i should word it ?

Survivortv,
It's going to be hard to get a straight answer out of them, support for anything electronic is at essentially zero, worldwide. As noted in their response, they didn't even understand your question.
But, it's probably worth one more try.
Maybe:
Dear Asus,
The VG278H monitor I received did not work when I set it up. This was a new monitor, fresh out of the box. When plugged in, the 3D emitter would not turn on under any circumstances.
I was preparing to return the monitor for credit, as it seemed defective.
I tried one last thing as recommended on forums. With the monitor off, I unplugged the AC cord for 30 seconds, then plugged it back in. This seems to have fixed the problem, as the 3D emitter now works.
Please see many examples here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/378021-33-need-vg278
However! I am concerned that this monitor is defective and I should return it anyway.
Is this a known problem with the VG278H monitor?
Why does unplugging the AC with it turned off solve the problem?

Please feel free to use that verbatim, or edit as you wish.
In order to get any result, you need to ask for something specific- like that question as to whether it is a known problem.
Good luck.

on 18jan asus sent me survey to fill in on how their email support did , so ive told them to read all of this thread and then admit their hardware ships with a flaw !
