are there supposed to be any 120hz coming out soon?
I heard that Asus was making one as well as LG. The reason why I am wondering is because I would like to have the full 3d setup by July. The current monitors (samsung and viewsonic) don't really interest me since they lack more than one DVI slot and HDMI.

^ this has been released in korea but I haven't heard of any release dates for the US

Sorry to probably smash your dreams but I cannot see any statement confirming native 120Hz support. The press release only states a response time of 8ms which "is almost even comparing with that of 120Hz LCD TV panel". Now "almost" does not sound like the true thing and also I would take it as given that if they would support 3D Stereo of some sort they would at least mention it somewhere. (like the do here, but this is not §D vision, and software support is unclear)

Sorry, mate, but I join you in your desperate wait on a Full HD with 26'' and above that does not have the depth of my desk (aka DLP). I'd even bear the flicker on my 30'' Dell untill they were available if nvidia could only unlock lower refresh rates as a "generic TFT" mode...

120Hz or not, if the LCD doesn't have a dual-DVI connector (which is NOT the same as two single DVI connections), then it will not be compatible. The standard single DVI cable doesn't transmit the necessary amount of data from the graphics card to the monitor. The "dual-DVI" cable is completely different and uses a completely different connection.

Well, you're right. But you can asume that every monitor with native 120 Hz will have a dual link DVI by default because otherwise it could never accept 120 Hz at native resolution.

And Dual Link is not using
a completely different connection
but the very same DVI-D connection only that all 18 pins for digital signals are used by both TDMS channels instead of just one. And as said all 3D Vision ready video cards (and allo most recent models from Ati) have it as well as all 3D vision ready monitors avilable and yet to come... and HDMI 1.3 also has sufficient bandwith, save alone 1.4.

Yes, *if* the monitor is designed to be 3d compatible. I believe there's word of a new Sony 200Hz LCD TV that has no indication that it's 3d compatible, and I'm guessing no dual-DVI input.

Well, true, I guess the connection looks the same even if it really isn't. Or am I misunderstanding that the dual-DVI input is actually identical to a standard DVI input and only the CABLE is different??

Interesting, I didn't know that.

That's correct. It is the very same connector, at least on the socket side. DVI-I sockets have 29 (24+4+1) pins, where 24 of them carry 2 TDMS lines plus DDc and V-Sync for digital and analogue, 4 are explicitely analogue RGB and H sync and the last one is ground (the thin bar). A digital only (DVI-D) single Link cable uses only 18+1 pins (that is the cable typically provided with TFT monitors), a single link plus analogoe (DVI-I) uses 22+1 and a Dual Link 24+1 (28+1 if VGA is used as well).

It is save to say that a 24+1 cable it will fit into any video card and any TFT monitor with DVI port regardless whether they work in single or Dual Link mode - where Dual Link is only used by 30 inchers with 2560x1600 and the new native 120 Hz models.
...HDMI 1.3 also has sufficient bandwith...
Interesting, I didn't know that...
which is why nvidia includes a DVI to HDMI (1.3) cable with their 3D Vision package ;-)

oh, and on a side note, I just came across this about HDMI1.4:
"The 1.4 version of the specification will define common 3D formats and resolutions for HDMI-enabled devices. The specification will standardize the input/output portion of the home 3D system and will specify up to dual-stream 1080p resolution. "
there you have it: OFFICIAL support in the next HDMI standard (and you probably noticed the bandwith high enough to dribve 4K...) This is good news (at least for upcoming devices) as its one step closer in getting 3D Stereo standarized,,,,

Ooh nice find! This should bring a lot of folks around to 3d Vision, lots of people are just holding out for a larger monitor to become available.

Hi Guys

Im glad to see the big interest in new 120 Hz LCDs. Suffice to say I cannot talk about unannounced products.

Stay tuned though it will be an exciting year.
