Back when I heard about the ps3 and 360 getting 3d I thought to myself wow I just wasted a crapload of money making my computer 3d ready for nothing. I always wondered how console 3d could work with so little power compared to pc. I then recently learned that in order to run the games in 3d the consoles run games at a lower res and I believe with less extras turned on. I still figured it would be ok though, but now I'm reading on a few different sites that the 3d is just not even worth it for consoles cus everthing looks like crap in order to run in 3d. This is very disapointing for those who are interested in 3d for consoles and I believe this could cause a negative rep for 3d. It's such a shame cus so many people haven't experienced the pure awesome that is 3d vision and new adopters of 3d may be turned away from this. Well at least 3d vision remains the king of 3d but I can't help but feel like the negative crits may hurt 3d in the long run. Thoughts on this anyone?

I don't think it's that bad. Some tv-sets (panasonic for instance) has proven way better visual quality than any rig with 3d-visionglasses. And of course you may need to turn down some settings (exactly like when gaming on computers) to have a decent framerate in stereo. Computers can be upgraded though but consoles are "locked". All on both good and evil sides. All over i think it's great that consoles are catching on 3d. Just wait for the next gen and see what happens.

Given Nvidia's solution is currently the only one that can both technically and practically achieve 2x1080p @ 60 FPS with the highest possible image quality I'd have to agree its the best solution by far. For me, the biggest detraction/distraction from Stereo 3D gaming after unfocused convergence/separation problems is low FPS. I can't stand games that run below 30 FPS at all, and even stutters or fluctutations in frame rates between 30 and 60 are noticeable and distracting imo. Low FPS are even more distracting in S3D because there's an additional slideshow/strobelight effect. For a good 3D experience you really need to keep FPS in the 50-60 FPS range imo and only 3D Vision with high-end Nvidia graphics cards can hope to achieve that.
I have no hopes for console 3D because even the "next-gen" format HDMI 1.4 frame packing is so limited in the resolutions and refresh rates that it supports. 2x720p @ 60Hz or 1080p @ 24Hz, or 1080i @ 60Hz, and that's assuming the consoles will even support those resolutions at those frame rates. Given they struggle even with current-gen games at 720p in non-S3D I'm not real optimistic, although I'm sure they'll manage to achieve 30FPS somehow by either dropping resolution and IQ significantly, or both. I guess at some point S3D without high image quality loses its appeal; I'm not sure how interested I'd be in playing the equivalent of TRON with minimal geometry and little to no shading/texturing just because its 3D.
3D TV Play has better prospects because you'll be able to use high-end PC hardware for acceleration on 3D Ready HDTVs, but the solution is still crippled by HDMI 1.4 frame packing and signal input limitations on the HDTVs themselves. I agree with consoles not being able to give such high quality as a computerrig running 3d-vision, iz3d-drivers or tridef. Consoles have always been hardwarelocked from the moment they're released. If they change this the ps3, 360 etc would become simple computers (probably on the way because you can change hdd for a start...).
