Viewsonic PJD 6381 can't get it running with quadroFX4800
Hello , i'm new here having unsolved problems with the Viewsonic PJD 6381 and 3d vision. Ihope someone has a PJD 6381 runnig in 3d and can help out.

The prjector is connected via the vga-cable that came with it in this way: quadro FX display port (stereo) - dipsplay port to vga adatper - vga cable - projector.
Drivers:
quadroFX 4800 driver: 191.78 WHQL (english) win7 64bit
3dvision driver: 191.00 3D Vision USB Driver 64bit

When setting up the 3d vision mode (nVidia dialog), the projector isn't recognized as a 3d display. The VESA sync cable connection (ir emiter - quadro) didn't help either (although it's strange because the projector has no port for the sync-cable and according to the dialog, the sync calble should connect the emitter and the projector).
With a samsung 120Hz display, everything works fine.

What's strange though is that the DVI port of the QuadroFX does not send an analog signal (tested a monitor connected via vga). That's why I use the displayport.

Trying out various settings on the 3dvision dialog did not help.

I hope someone has a nice tip what could be wrong. It sucks when your thesis project depends on getting the hardware to run...

best,
anton

i may have miss understood your post, but why are you using a sync cable with this beamer.

Unlike the LCD's the PJ does'nt need a sync seperate cable?

the nvidia-wizard that appears when enabling 3d vision tells to connect the emitter via the VESA cable with the projector. when using the samsung display, there is no sync cable mentioned by the wizard. in my opinion, it makes no sense either, but i thought following the installation instructions might be the solution. but no success.

The problem comes from the display port adapter that converts the signaling to VGA, it is probably causing the problems of proper projector detection. Are you able to set 120Hz for the projector in 2D mode, as you are most likely not going to see that option either? Form some pictures of the Quadro I see it is not using DVI-D, but DVI-I connectors meaning i should be capable of outputting analog signal...

I have a PJD 6381, but I'm using it with a GTX275 not a Quadro, so the driver will be different but the rest should be the same.

I had problems getting it to work, took about a week to sort

I found the first problem was the driver, I needed version 1.15cd which has driver version 195.39, more recent versions don't work and you may have the same problem with the Quadro drivers.

Set up process was as follows, I uninstalled the newer drivers /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> , turned the computer off, connected the projector to the graphics card using a DVI - VGA cable (standard, not dual-link), I don't use the VGA cable that it came with.

Turned on the projector, went to Menu - Picture - 3D Sync and set that to 3d-Vision, turned on the computer and installed the older 1.15cd for display and 3d driver. This then brings up the 3d set up wizard, connected the IR emitter and glasses when instructed, then when you get to Display you should have (or in the case of the Quadro what to look for with trying different drivers) a choice of CRT Display - Generic DLP and 3D Vision discovery (The CRT and DLP options NOT displaying is the driver issue that is happening)

Select CRT Display and I found it was working when I went to the test screen with the triangle and hexagon, give the correct answer which is green for left and blue for right, and then on the next test image the answer is left image. Now the reason I'm suggesting just enter the correct answer is that on my system I have to wear the glasses upside down /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' /> (not as bad as it sounds) for it work. Run the slide show and THEN test what works in regards to wearing the glasses upside down or not.

If this doesn't work the only other suggestion I have is that there is a way to get the Quadro (not GTX's) to work in XP, you'll have to google that.

Hope this helps. :)

hi,

thanks for your answer!

eventually, i could get the PJD6381 to work with OpenGL, however not with DirectX. This problem was also reported by the german IT-mag "c't" (04/2010).

very good for you that you got the projector running connected to the DVI-port. I couldn't on the Quadro. I suppose the Quadro does not send an analog signal through the DVI-port.

that's nice! for me, the driver version 191.00 worked with OpenGL in stereo. however, it worked once, then again didn't, then again worked, very undeterministic and frustrating.

maybe you can solve the upside down glasses problem by inverting the stereo signal in the projector's menu. it's the point right beneath "enable 3d-sync" and called something like "enable inverse 3d-sync".

I ended up using the projector on ubuntu and got rid of the nvidia glasses and used the CrystalEyes glasses (manufacturer: StereoGraphics). They come with an IR-emitter that can be connected to via VESA-3pin calbe to the graphics card and don't need any additional driver.
