I am not familiar with that Alienware laptop, but I seriously doubt it has an HDMI input port, meaning you would be able to plug your PS3 into it for example and use the laptop screen as PS3 monitor.
Having said that, 3D Vision only works with a dual-link DVI connector, not HDMI.

Ok you second point is valid. You first point not. Yes Alienware does have a HDMI Input. Believe me i use my laptop for travel and bring my xbox with me. Play it right there on my laptop screen by connecting it to my HDMI input port.

Also with your second point. I think your looking at it from the wrong perspective. Im talking more, does the HDMI in rendering go through the video card. In that case its a matter of the same software process required to process 2d images from previous games into 3d by double rendering with offset to a display. vrs. looking at the imposibility of trying to send a 120 hrtz 3d image through a HDMI1.3 port.

All 3D Vision displays require a DL DVI to support up to 1080p60 3D Gaming.
Some of our new 3D Displays allow you to use HDMI 1.4 to show 3D, but they are limited to 720p60 for gaming and 1080p24 for Blu-ray 3D.

All 3D Vision displays require a DL DVI to support up to 1080p60 3D Gaming.
Some of our new 3D Displays allow you to use HDMI 1.4 to show 3D, but they are limited to 720p60 for gaming and 1080p24 for Blu-ray 3D.
