You guys are welcome, and I very much appreciate your contributions to this tread as well. One guy complaining is just one guy complaining. Lots of people complaining -- and we might get this issue addressed!

Great tip on unplugging the IR transmitter to disable 3D mode. I'm going to test that tonight. I've had trouble lately unchecking the "Enable 3D" box in the nVidia control panel. It used to work, but now World of Warcraft seems to re-enable it for me behind the scenes. This has started happening ever since I upgraded to Windows 7. (In Vista, I used to be able to just uncheck that box.)

The interesting side effect of this problem is that it is very easy for me to tell whether the 3D driver is enabled. :-)

Due to the vast similarities between the monitors in 3D mode, I considered the possibility that an internal chipset is included with these monitors that allows support of a "3D mode". It is possible these two manufacturers source the monitor internals from the same chipset provider -- and the problem could be present inside both monitors. (In other words, it could be a driver issue, or an internal component of the monitors themselves that is shared between brands.)

Just something to ponder. I don't know if these monitors required special hardware to support "3D mode" or not.

From a pure logic standpoing: I've switched out every piece of hardware that doesn't happen to be the same in both monitors, or both video cards, or across all drivers I've tested so far.

The "bug" could be in any of these areas -- based on my own personal guesswork.

I've considered ordering a new monitor every 4-6 months and hoping to get a revised chipset at some future point. :-)

+1. Just what I think. Still not sure if it is driver or hardware (activation of stereo mode INSIDE monitors)

According to my experience, I find the problem only in Directx fullscreen applications if stereo is activated in control panel, never had need to unplug the emitter, in both windows 7 RC 7100 x64 neither in Vista x64. If I uncheck stereo in control panel, the effect is gone (but I don't have WoW, so didn't tested this particular game).

I don't have either of the monitors yet, but since I'm in the market for one right now, I'm very interested in this issue.

With my old 19" CRT, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue at any refresh rate or resolution. The image is sharp and clear (within the limits of a CRT) no matter if 3D Vision is enabled or not.

I also think there might be a special mode of operation for 3D Vision in these displays, hence the non-adjustable brightness and contrast. Another hint pointing in this direction can be found in this [url="http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-075-VS"]listing[/url] for the VX2268wm, which will be the European equivalent (or follow-up?) of the VX2265wm. It reports different response times for 2D mode (5 ms) and 3D mode (3 ms).

Maybe the monitors aren't actually able to display 120 completely different pictures per second in their standard mode of operation. It might be enough for 120 "normal" frames, where each one differs only slightly from the last, but 3D mode requires vastly different frames to be displayed in alternating order. Something like this was already suspected in a [url="http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=460616"]thread[/url] on the 3Dcenter forums (it's in German only, sorry), where the Samsung didn't perform too well concerning the readability of moving text.
For 3D Vision, the display switches into a special mode in which response times are faster but with no control over brightness and contrast and - by design or by some kind of bug - with the scanline-like pattern.

A way to test this theory would be to use a different 3D software (e.g. IZ3D) with matching shutterglasses and check whether it works with the monitor. If the theory holds true, then one should experience a significant amount of ghosting this way, since the monitor isn't told to switch into 3D mode.

Please consider all of the above to be just speculation on my part, I don't even actually have the monitor, I'm just trying to make sense of the information I have.

I'd like to restate the need for an [b]answer from NVIDIA[/b]. As long as I'm not sure what is causing this issue and whether it can be fixed, I'm not going to shell out 300 € for the monitor. Ah, heck, who am I kidding, I'm probably going to buy it anyway, but I'm gonna be pretty angry at Samsung, NVIDIA and myself afterwards.

EDIT: Something I just thought about: Has anyone plagued by this issue tried another refresh rate? The Samsung should be capable of 100 Hz and 110 Hz as well. Does the problem persist in these modes?

Read a 3D vision blog that recond that Samsung had problems showing a consistant gamma value if you hadnt done a colour claibration on it, until mine arrives i wont be able to tell if this solves the problem (if indeed it reproduces on mine).

The first thing I did when received the samsung was to calibrate it with a X-rite EyeOne Display 2 screen calibrator, create a color profile, install it, and load automatically the LUT (Look Up Table). The photos shown in my post (#52 and #53) are with the screen calibrated.

Does calibrating the color on the monitor reduce its overall brightness since you're lowering some of the individual RGB values?

I'm running Win7 x64 RC build 7100 and have a GTX280 and i experienced this problem with every driver version I tried (the one who was delivered with the 3d vision kit and the last 2 updates) and both Win7 and Vista (both x64).

Well, it depends from which values you come from. If I remember correctly the monitor came with 100% brightness (and don't remember contrast, maybe 100% too?). The calibration process adjust both bright/contrast levesl (to be able to see differentiate the darkest grays from the pure black, and the almost total white from the pure white), and also adjusts RGB values to achieve (as possible) a fair color representation. The color difference respect known color patterns that could still remain are then finally corrected in the LUT of the graphic card.

My current values (which likely will be different for your 2233RZ) are 28 for brightness and 75 for contrast. For RGB, Red 23, Green 33 and Blue 50.

But I insist, unhappily each unit has its own values in order to be calibrated. Even when you calibrate the same monitor with a month of difference you will find somewhat different values...Anyway if someone is interested I can upload my current color profile.

Nonetheless, I didn't saw in my case that a color calibration make worse or better the "interlaced" problem in a noticeable way. Of course it increased a lot the quality of the color reproduction of the screen.

I build a new computer a few months ago, based on a X58 motherboard, Intel Core i7, a GeForce GTX 285 (MSI), and a Samsung T240 screen (I run Windows Vista x64).
Everything was fine, but a few weeks ago, I started experiencing smooth flickering problem on my screen (on Windows desktop, not only in video games).

After a smooth flickering on the top of the screen, the whole screen display swap to an "interlaced look", with grainy texture (pixels are much more visible).
There is no resolution loss (resolution is still 1920*1200), but quality is degraded.
There is also horizontal lines that appears (they seem to be the continuity of objects displayed on the screen). If a window is displayed, I can see some horizontal lines in the background, on the same raw than the objects displayed, moving in the same way I move the window.

I know I'm in the 3D section of the forum, and I don't use this feature of my video card.
But some people in this topic said they are experiencing the problem without the 3D feature activated, and without running video games.
So I have reasons to believe that we are experiencing the same problem.

It's quite difficult to explain, and I searched for a long time on Google before finding this topic, which seem to be the more related to my problem.

I try to upgrade/downgrade nvidia driver without any results.
Sometime, changing resolution to 1080 then going back to 1920 fix the problem. But sometime (often) not.
Rebooting the computer don't fix the problem.

The problem is not permanently present.
Sometime, I start the computer, and everything is fine (it can goes wrong after 30mn~1h). Sometime, the problem appears immediately, even if the computer was shut down for a whole day. Sometime, the problem disappear alone, while watching a movie on my computer, or when I am away.

I am not sure, but I think the display problem (when it is present) also appears in the BIOS. Not sure, because BIOS display resolution is not good enough to evaluate the loss of quality.

I bought a new PSU (Antec Quattro 850W), and plugged the two connectors of my GTX 285 on two different 12V rails of my PSU (to be sure there is not a power supply issue).
I thought the problem was solved, because I don't saw the problem for a week.

But it came back, again and again.

I'll try to reinstall Windows, but I'm pretty sure it will not fix my problem.
So this thread seems to be my last chance. I really don't know what to do.


Thanks in advance for any suggestions.


PS : I'm not even sure that we are talking about the same problem, but as I said, this is the closest description I saw on internet that fit my case.
I can post pictures if you want, we can clearly see the "grainy" effect and horizontal lines.

Sometime, I start the computer, and everything is fine (it can goes wrong after 30mn~1h). Sometime, the problem appears immediately, even if the computer was shut down for a whole day. Sometime, the problem disappear alone, while watching a movie on my computer, or when I am away.



I am not sure, but I think the display problem (when it is present) also appears in the BIOS. Not sure, because BIOS display resolution is not good enough to evaluate the loss of quality.



I bought a new PSU (Antec Quattro 850W), and plugged the two connectors of my GTX 285 on two different 12V rails of my PSU (to be sure there is not a power supply issue).

I thought the problem was solved, because I don't saw the problem for a week.



But it came back, again and again.



I'll try to reinstall Windows, but I'm pretty sure it will not fix my problem.

So this thread seems to be my last chance. I really don't know what to do.

PS : I'm not even sure that we are talking about the same problem, but as I said, this is the closest description I saw on internet that fit my case.

I can post pictures if you want, we can clearly see the "grainy" effect and horizontal lines.

I kept the same settings on my camera for these two pictures.
The luminosity difference is because the screen luminosity increase when the problem appears (more white pixels).

First of all i want to Thank Metyx for his unbelieveble effort and endurance to find a solution for the customers. There should be more users which care and try to move people like him. And of course Darkbluesky for his professional pictureproof with his nice Camera ;-)

I wanted to ask if these Scanlines also occur on Systems with two graphiccards. So do someone with a SLI-System encountered as well.
