Optoma PRO350W or HH66? Which to get? I have no choice since the Acer H5360 ins't available in t
  1 / 2
First off I called Acer of America to see when and if the H6350 would ever be available in The U.S.
Bad enough I was supposed to be directed to the presales department for asking questions about certain products before purchase but I was directed to tech support and was talking to some guy who obviously didnt speak proper english and had to ask the guy to repeat what he said atleast 3 times while attempting to hold a conversation with this guy.
Come to find out, Neither did not know what I was talking about and told the guy thanks for wasting my time and hung up.

Next up was Piximania, I think I spelled it right. The online store mentioned by many who claims they will ship to the U.S. but says we have to contact them via email for proper shipping info so they can calculate the shipping fees so I will know what to expect to pay. here is the email from them:
I am interested in the Acer H5360 and a replacement bulb.
Well as far as the price, you guys are basically the only ones who will ship this item to the US for its not in the US and for what I am trying to build, This projector is required.

Hi Thomas

Please can i have an address for delivery so i can work out the shipping costs.
I warn you, it will be expensive!
So Saying I am not worried about the price, I replied back with my shipping info.

Still have yet to hear anything from these guys and not to mention email transaction was from 5 days ago since this post and yet, nothing.

I also tried, www.projectorshop24.co.uk, results were the same.

So I said the hell with it. Looks like I'm stuck with the two Optoma 3d Ready projectors despite the driver issues that SUPPOSEDLY will be corrected by Optoma and/or Nvidia but I am in need of a better projector anyway since my old one finally kicked the bucket some weeks ago and I refuse to go back to a TV after having an hd projector for 3 years.

So my question is this, The Pro350w or the hd66, are they equal, or which would you prefer out of the two? regardless its one or the other I'll end up getting.

Thanks for dealing with my rant :P

I have the pro350w and am happy with it. keep in mind that you can only game in 3d at 720p resolution even though the native resolution is slightly higher so the only benefit you will have with the 350 in 2d mode. driver situation sucks but hopefully nv is working on this...

Thanks for the Reply Pixel and yeah I have been following up on you and Hawkman alot in this section since you both own optoma 3d ready projectors.
Anyway yeah, I am sure Nvidia is working on this problem but like I said, I need to replace my old projector anyway and both models will be alot better than my old Evo 1.1 projector lol.

So the Pro350W huh? hdmi inputs? IF so then im good.

I'm in the exact same boat. I've been waiting for Acer FOREVER. Today it seems like a small light has begun to glow at the end of the tunnel as a few U.S. online retailers are beginning to list it. One of which says it's coming 2-17. (Thanks to the members that informed me!) It's in the Acer H5360 thread.

Just seen the thread and its scheduled to release on the 17th of this month, which is pretty cool because I will have my tax refund around that time.
Still I hear the optoma's are better projectors and the only advantage at this point is that the acer projectors are certified with nividia's 3d vision and the optoma's are not as of this moment.

Still its up in the air for me.
But thanks for the info. I guess we have to wait and see what the prices are like and if they are really going to be available in the U.S. as said in the other thread.

Ok I just received my 3d kit today.

Since I am out of luck with the Acer model that almost everyone here in America were hoping for, I went and got the Optoma Hd66 ( will be here within 2 days) despite the drive issue many are having which supposed to be resolved in the near future.

I have a question to ask you since many of you are far more experienced in this than I am since I am a newbie,

My current rig:
Intel Core 2 Quad cpu Q6600
4 gigs of ddr2 ram
500gb primary sata hdd
Geforce 8800gt with dual dvi outputs.

I am currently using both outputs for the work I do on my pc and I would hate to have to remove a monitor just to install and use the 3d kit for my projector.

For that reason I was interested in getting a somewhat inexpensive, not costly, desktop unitjust for use and to make use of the 3d kit alone, mainly for movies and gaming and this way I can keep my other pc the way it was for media developing purposes, my job btw.

I came across this on tiger direct:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...p;sku=N500-3000
According to the specs and the gfx card it contains, it should do the job but I wanted to get you guys view on this, will I be ok with this or anything you suggest?

Please let me know and I thank you.

MOvies, yes, gaming, min-low medium settings at 20-45 fps...if you know anything about computers I'd recommend building one on ibuypower if you dont wanna build it, or newegg if you wanna build it. If you OC that pc it would be ok, depends on what games ur gonna be running of course and also 32 or 64 bit system.

Or

you might try one of these for like 30 bucks

use the dvi for your pc and hdmi for hd66

I'm using 1.3b hdmis on my hd66 and it works with 3d no problems

So it works for you huh? I just dont want to unhook one monitor just to use the projector and reconnect after use. I didnt plan on using both at once on the same output.

Ill give it a try anyway, couldn't hurt. The reviews scared me, thats all but it was mostly from amazon and that place is known for selling used items as new so maybe thats why.

Well, I dont unhook the monitor, just disable it in the control panel while ur using the proj so it doesnt draw power through the dvi port (which is where a lot of the quality issues come from, too much power drain on one port)

but I'd go with your gut on this one lol. I would much rather spend 30 bucks on something that I could hopefully return then 500 bucks on a new pc JUST for the sole purpose of needing one more dvi port

or unless you are using an onboard 8800, you could always just buy another one depending on the brand and use your proj through that

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...3-118-_-Product 70 bucks for an 8800gt with 154 positive 4-5* ratings but you wud need to have a spare pci slot for this type of fix, and preferably buy the same brand and type of card that you currently have xD

Unfortunately I only have one 1 16x slot so thats out of the question.

I went on ahead and purchased the splitter and yeah, I dont plan on simultaneously using both the pj and monitor at once, thats just plain stupid anyway :P.
It should come the day after I get my optoma hd66 and we will see how things work from there.

Thanks for your help, after I get everything Ill report back here informing others how things work.
But since I have the same "will have" as you, I understand older drivers will work with this and the issue of wearing the glasses upside down.

Mind telling me what all you did to get your projector and the 3d kit to work properly?
better yet anything else I would needd to know or get before my pj gets here?

Thanks again for your time and being helpful.

I live in the US and I ordered an Acer H5360 from here:

http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.c...id=!ORDERID!

The next shipment is on the 5th of March.

According to this thread, the HD66 and Pro350w likely will never obtain full support since Optoma will be selling a new projector specifically 3D Vision compatible, so you might want to consider snatching the H5360 from here even though it won't be in your house for another month. Can't wait though.
