3dvision vs 3dtv play - which one is better ?
Hello everyone, after hours of researching i am very confused about these 2 technologies. I want to install a 3D Beamer setup at my home. For now i have a Geforce GTX660 and i still need every other component for playing in 3d. i have seen that there are dlp beamer out there which are compatible to 3dvision or compatible to 3dtv play. i wanna buy a 720p Beamer because 1080p is to expensive for me. For this setup are there any advantages oder disadvantages between 3dvision and 3dtv play. Maybe in Refresh Rate, Resolution, 3dprotokoll (SBS/frame packing etc.), Ghosting or something like that ?? For now i prefer 3dtv play because i can use any shutter glasses i want to. But i am unsure if there are some disadvantages. Here is a beamer which is 3dvision ready: http://www.benq.com/product/projector/w700/ an here the one which is 3dtv play ready: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Computer-EY-K0701-020-3D-DLP-Projector/dp/B0036R9ZKA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358256739&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+H5360BD Thanks in advance. Greetings, Michael

i prefer 3d vision: - supersampling with custom aa bits - 120hz for 2d gaming - potentially less input lag than frame packing

ok, thanks for that info. If i wanna play games in full HD the only way is to use 3dtv play, right ? But (if i understand that correctly) my framerate is than limited to 24hz (unplayable for me), right ? Greetings, Michael

Okaaaay.... what do you think about this solution: I will buy this 1080p projector: http://www.benq.com/product/projector/w1070 Because: - this projector supports native 3D material. - it is listet in 3dtv play compatibility list @ nvidia. - playing 3d games is possible with 720p@60hz. - i can use any shutter glasses i want - watching 3D Movies in FullHD is possible Any disadvantages else comparing with a 120hz 720p Beamer in combination with 3dvision ? - 60hz for 2d gaming is okay for me - supersampling with custom aa bits (no idea what you mean with that) - potentially less input lag than frame packing (do you have any links to that?) Greetings, Michael

I could be wrong here but I think with 3DTV play you can go up to 3D @ 720p60, whereas 3D Vision can go up to 1080p60. I bought an emitter and I'm using 3D Vision on a DLP @ 1080p60, 120hz.

Hi TsaebehT, are you sure with that resolution ? If i check nvidias 3dvision DLP compatibility List, i can only see resolutions about 720p: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-system-requirements.html Greetings, Michael

You can also play easily at 1280x720@60Hz. I play all my games at 1920x1080@24hz and framerates are good for me, the real lag can be with my mouse. I have a high DPI performance mouse and have to adjust accordingly. Overall I am satisfied with my setup.

I would recommend that you carefully check how the glasses work, for any given setup. With NVidia 3D Vision, and an Acer H5360 (not BD version), I get zero ghosting. And ghosting is my biggest concern for a 3D setup. I've seen a LOT of 3D Tvs and projectors with their own glasses that are really quite terrible from the ghosting/crosstalk perspective. Really feeble solutions. The test case examples are static images with high-contrast, like a torch burning on the wall in a dark cave. With the 3D Vision solution, you don't get any ghost or double images per eye. I have not used the newer version, but it's not supposed to be dramatically different. I can really only speak to what I've used in depth- the Acer H5360, and Nvidia 3D vision, and cannot recommend it highly enough. It's really great. The H5360BD is a different thing, where you need to use DLP Link glasses, and I'd have to see them in action before I'd trust that version. The glasses need to go completely black in off-frame, to avoid ghosting.

I've yet to see a DLP Projector with any ghosting/crosstalk when used in conjuntion with a good pair of DLP Link glasses.

I have the Benq w1070 and it is a really nice projector. Its really a good deal at $1100. I had the epson 3020 and just wasnt totally taken by it due. Some of that was due to the lens and zoom ratio. The lens was a little foggy and it didnt produce as big an image in my 12 foot depth room. The benq works well with the projector where the epson still isnt supported officially for 3dtvplay. dlp link is a little flakey though. It seems with each newer version of projector, the color balance gets better out of the box. This is my 4th 3d projector, the second 1080p one and its just damn impressive. The 1080p really is a solid improvement over any of the 720p projectors. The extra detail is great when you have a giant display.

bump: I got a question I got a Benq1070 and running 25440x1620 (DSR) with a edid override This is with 3dTV play and DLP link glasses I was playing around with Vital 01 his batch file`s: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1025522/1080p60hz-hdmi-active-amp-passive-output-without-3dtv-play-/#5220240 Now if i run this i get 3d Vision at 3840x2160 (DSR) I can change depth/conference and the green NVidia message with rating is displayed The projector menu says 3d is not enabled instead of "frame packing" Now i was wondering, if I buy the emitter + glasses from Nvidia. Would it then work? Hope you guys can help me and again huge thanks for all the fixes etc!
