Hi All,
Has anyone tried using a business projector for gaming? I'm considering getting the MU706 just because it's 4000 lumens and my current W1080st+ is not as bright as I would like it to be for a 135 inches screen.
The projector supports the following 3D modes:
Frame Sequential: Up to 60Hz 720p
Frame Packing: Up to 24 Hz 1080p
Side by Side: Up to 24Hz 1080p
Top Bottom: Up to 60Hz 1080p
Info taken from BenQ website - https://www.benq.eu/product/projector/MU706/specifications/
I'm thinking I should be able to use a config file from another projector to enable 3DTV Play and use top and bottom 3d migoto feature / frame packing or sequential for dx 9 titles.
Do you think this is feasible?
Many Thanks.

No I do not think this projector will work.. the 720P needs to be 120hz for Frame Sequential..
*I bought a Optoma HD142x and with an EDID Overide it works perfectly with 3D vision ..

That's a very good point Nephilim. 3D Vision will not work on this unit however 3DTV Play should since it supports frame packing.
What is not clear is if it supports 720p 60hz frame packing apart from 1080p 24hz, need to do some digging to find this out.
How is the brightness of the Optoma HD142x?

I tried the Optoma HD 27 some time ago which seems to be nearly the same model as HD 142x and the brightness was very good (the model had 3200 ANI lumen). 3D gaming was bright enough even on darker games like Outlast, Dead Space series...
However consider that the high light output of HD 27 / HD 142x / Benq MU706 is due to the RGBCYW color wheel used in those projectors. This means there's an additional white segment which allows more light to pass through the wheel but side effect of this is that colors are washed out a bit. Another disadvantge of this color wheel is that rainbow color effects are easier to spot for the viewers. For Optoma HD27 colors were not so bad although using a RGBCYW wheel but rainbow color effect was horrible for me.
Home cinema projectors use RGBRGB wheels - they have a lower light output (generally 2000-2500 ANSI lumen) as not so much light can pass through the color wheel but they have better colors and the rainbow effect is harder to see.
Best solution generally is to buy a home cinema projector and use a high contrast screen which should be also suitable for daylight conditions (however those screens are often very expensive).

Another good point :) ,didn't even consider the washed out colours the due to the color wheel difference. I had a an Optoma HD67N and i barely noticed any rainbow effects so I don't think I'm affected by this. Ideally I'd get one and test it out to see if it's worth it. I wonder if 3200 lumens would be enough for 135 inches.

I've considered getting a high gain silver screen - 2.4 gain, but due to the short throw nature of my current projector this is a no go unless i change the projector. The light will bounce to the ceiling/floor depending on where the projector is placed rather than reflecting it back to the viewer. Hmm - unless the screen itself is at an angle to reflect the light back.

How about highest gain white screen.
I would not get a silver screen if you Are not going for polariZed dual projectionz
There is always some ”noise”/”grainines” in silver screens.
