linux, quadro, 3D vison IR setup, no ir, no shutter glass sync, no 3D! linux quadro 4000 using N
Hiya,

Well I have tried everything I can think off and I am completely flummoxed - I am no newbie! The setup is as follows:

Relevant Hardware
========
ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3

Quadro 4000
Nvidia 3D vision USB dongle + glasses (via NewEgg)

Alienware2310

Software
========

OpenSuse 11.4 , Linux linux-1ole 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-02-21 10:34:10 +0100 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

Nvidia drivers as follows
x11-video-nvidiaG02-260.19.44-24.1.i586
nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-desktop-260.19.44_k2.6.37.1_1.2-23.1.i586
nvidia-texture-tools-2.0.6-10.1.i586

Xserver - xorg-x11-server-7.6_1.9.3-15.18.4.i586

I have tried the following:

1) In nvidia-settings I have verified

a) Monitor is running at 120Hz (119.68) (real dual-link DVI , not using DisplayPort+adapter)

b) tool reports "Display is Nvidia 3D Vision enabled" (Stereo == "10).

c) USB dongle glows a steady green

d) Xorg.0.log confirms everythings is properly hooked up (Composites == disabled, IR emmiter requested [no errors] etc..) .

2) I have also tried Stereo==3 and the green glow goes off, so I am pretty sure the signals are ok.

Nothing I do seems to make the shutter glasses flicker, or at least so I can perceive.

The applications I have tried are vmd (version 1.8.9) and a hand coded opengl image viewer (so I can inspect internals).

I have even used usbmon to snifff the USB traffic to the dongle and traffic occurs on the start and exit of VMD and "switch left-right" commands, so signals.

I have touched the 3-pin DIN to my tongue and it tingles , as I expect 120Hz to do!!

I have used phone camera to observe the dongle and I do not see any IR.

The only thing I have not tried (which I will try) is to use the glasses with another setup. The glasses do flicker when they go into sleep mode, so they at least can flicker.

Does anyone out there know what could be the problem? Anyway I can rule out a duff dongle?

I have had a lot of luck with NVIDIA Quadro under linux, but this usb dongle is a new thing. It does not seem to produce IR, but I am not at all familiar with this device.

Please let me know if I have missed any relevant information out!!

Thanks in advance!! I really need the 3D for my PhD work.....!

Phil,

It sounds like you are doing everything correctly. Can you attach the nvidia-bug-report.log.gz, so I can see if there are any clues there?

Thanks,
Steve

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm quite certain you need to be using the 3 pin mini din to 1/8" stereo connector and not the usb connection. There is an expansion plug on your NVIDIA 4000 that allows you to plug a 3 pin mini din connector up to it - you can find from PNY for about 20 bucks.
