Mortal Kombat X
  3 / 8
Honestly I am stunned! Now that the game has finally been unlocked here in Germany I just gave it a try and was instantly blown away. With shadows set to OFF I would say this one is very very well playable in ist current state. I really can't name a single major gamebreaking issue here. I will happily begin with this one in its current default state (although still hoping for a fix to polish things up but honestly I couldn't name anything that is really broken). Ok I should mention that I only played 3 stages so far but thos were pretty sweet in 3D. Even after my short time with MK X I am already loving it beyond words! The only thing that really bothers me right now is the fact that I am able to set the resolution to 5760x1080 (3D Vision Surround) but still the game is only displayed on the main monitor while the performance hit really indicates that all three monitors seem to be involved somehow when switching to 5760x1080....but still both side monitors remain black!?

@alo81 X-Rays and Fatalities are rendered in beautiful 3D! Caution is advised when playing with really high convergence settings as those close-ups during X-Rays/Fatalities sometimes lead to split objects/characters and thus could break the experience.

Unless I am missing something, but the game is far from flawless in 3d it has a bunch of issues but maybe I just have a higher standard than anyone else. So I wont be playing in 3d at this point. Might try the cm mode though. I was worried about the Xray moves being 2d rendered as well at 30fps but was pleasantly surprised, has anyone found a solution to unlock the framerate on these? Also hopefully the netcode issues are just launch problems, because late last night I was able to get a pretty good match. I think the player in question was relatively local though. I also get a hard drive crash when starting a player match when 3d is enabled in the control panel regardless of being on in game. Anyone else experiencing this? What driver are you all using?

Well, as I said necro I am pretty forgiving when it comes to 3D issues. But in case of MK X I really found nothing major like objects at wrong depth after quick inspection. That doesn't mean that I am not praying for a fix to make this a perfect showcase. This game definitely deserves it!

I had to turn OFF the following graphics settings to get the game to look great in 3D. 1. Depth of Field - this caused the game to permanently mix one static image and then the game image. 2. Bloom - If you leave this on, the bloom will render in one eye and makes the image look washed out. It was really bad in the gensing(sp?) map 3. Shadows - Surprisingly, even if you set this to off, there is still shadowing. Leaving this on, while not horrible on low, just bothered me too much.

Even with these options off there is still a bad haloing around the characters or shader double up not sure how to explain it. its sooo damn close though, this game has the potential to look phenomenal. If I had the money right now I would donate a copy to someone to look at it.

@ storm those settings were already turned off when I first launched the game. The only option I had to turn off myself was shadow quality and I did that right after starting the game. So that explains why I was amazed right from the start.
its sooo damn close though, this game has the potential to look phenomenal.
Exactly that! Knowing nothing actually about fixing I am also sure that this one is so damn close that even a fixer's blink of an eye MAYBE could be sufficient to turn this one from good or very good to perfect.
If I had the money right now I would donate a copy to someone to look at it.
I told you about the hassle I had with MK X here in Germany before it was finally unlocked. So in my desparation I bought the game a second time (talk about love for the series) and activated it on a separate steam account that I only made for MK X. Seconds after activating the key on this alternate "MK X Steam account" I got the message that the game was unlocked now in Germany which rendered my new alternate account useless for me (because my main account already had MK X activated). So basically I have an unused steam account now that contains the full game. Bottom line is: IF ONE OF OUR HIGHLY PRAISED FIXERS has the slightest interest in the game please know that there is an unused account that already contains the paid and acitvated game. I would gladly give you the account details so you could have a look at it. Right now this account is just money down the drain!

After reading comments on here saying it looked great I had different scenes rendered in each eye and was getting ready to come back on here and rage, but switching off DOF fixed it like a charm. Have to say the game is certainly playable, just a few small tweaks could get it looking perfect.

While I don't WANT to make any promises and any expectations, I will take a look at the game during the weekend;) I am not a big fan of MK but I enjoyed everyone I played;)) So, don't get your hopes high but I manage to fix anything I will post it (don't worry) :)

That is great news helifax! Since you are the "G-O-D" of Widescreen/3D Vision Surround gaming on this forum do you have any clue why the game cleary shows a resolution of 5760x1080 and even the performance hit seems to confirm that the game is in " 3DV surround mode" but still the game is only displayed on my main monitor while both sidemonitors permanently remain black? When you have a look at the game this weekend maybe you can also try if you are able to play in 3D Vision surround (I guess you would try that anyway). P.S: Do you need my "MK X account" or did you already buy the game? Thanks again helifax for your help!

Much appreciated Helifax, from a game perspective this is definitely the best product they have come out with imo. The fighting mechanics are very solid this time around and they have cleaned up alot of problems with the series. (apart from the online quality). Just be careful there exists an issue with control customization for control pad, or stick like I use for some people which crashes the game, the trick is to unplug all peripherals (possible even the keyboard) if it occurs for you. Helifax if you could also take a quick look into seeing if its possible to uncap the Xray moves from 30fps limitation. (which is very jarring) I'd be forever in your debt. Not expecting anything, but thanks a lot for taking a look anyway.

Absolutely no pressure included here at all because the game already is very playable in its current state. It's really a "nice to have"-situation although I have to admit that it would be VERY NICE to get this one to perfection!

mega patch this morning that apparently changed shaders, do address some performance problems some people are having (im not) I think 3d actually improved with this patch a bit the haloing doesn't seem so much pronounced with shadows on max.

Sounds good. Thanks necro for the info. Since it was advised to disable shadows completely would you say with the new patch you could enable shadows without any issues or would it still be better to disable them?

Just played for about an hour after applying the massive patch that came today. Yes you can leave shadows turned on while actually fighting but the broken shadows are very distracting during character selection and even more distracting while doing a fatality. When playing with high convergence settings the fatals with their massive use of close-ups already are a challenge but with those broken shadows all over the body of your sorry opponent during those fatals it's a little bit too much. So for now I turned shadows completely off (hoping of course that a possible fix let's us turn the shadows on again). I know I am repeating myself. But this game in glorious 3D just looks breathtaking!
