anyone know if it's possible to mod the EDID so that it can do 5.1 audio? I have my PC connected to my receiver and only able to select 2 channel stereo under sound Device. Does anyone else run the mod while connecting through a surround sound receiver?

Depending on how old or new your AVR is, will determine if it can pull surround audio from a 4K video stream. You can use monitor asset manager to read the audio capabilities of the modded EDID Users can also run into this problem at lower resolutions, if using downsampling.

THanks DMan. I need it to show up as 5.1 device for gaming. I know it can probably do Dolby digital or DTS but that won't work. The edid shows up as LGTV for me and only has stereo option under properties. Of course HDMI can easily pass 5.1 for gaming, it's just a matter of changing the EDID to output 5.1 instead of 2.0. I really have no idea if this is possible, but I'm sure others play games in surround sound through a receiver? I used to run two HDMI cables from the graphics card, and one was for audio only, but know I'm only gonna have 1 hdmi cable to work with.

Conan481, I've run into the same issue as you have, but from a different angle. I have my computer connected directly to the TV and am using an audio return channel to go to my AVR. (My AVR only supports 4k@4:2:0) This only gives me the option of stereo in Windows. Windows shows that Dolby/DTS is available, but it won't do the 5.1 conversion for games. I tried messing with the EDID to get PCM 5.1, but didn't have any luck getting it to work. The second thing I tried was using an optical cable for 5.1, but Windows 10 apparently removed the configure speakers option for optical audio and I can only get stereo from this as well. I might try 2 HDMI cables to get 5.1 to AVR and 4k to TV. Do you have to setup the AVR as another monitor to get this to work?

I don't remember who but I know someone made a working version of the 4k Edid with 5.1 capability Try this one. I added 7.1 but I don't know if works properly. I have my sound and image on separate HDMI cables.

Thanks Joker, but I'm getting a Parameter incorrect error when I try to install it. Your original still installs fine. Do you have any idea why that is happening? Do you by any chance have the original 5.1 version? Maybe windows doesn't recognize 7.1? Again thanks, this would save me from having to buy an external USB sound card with dolby digital live.

Yes, the AVR will show up as another monitor and just go to sound properties and configure for 5.1. You can then clone or extend desktop. Works perfect, or if we can get a working 5.1 mod then a single HDMI cable to the AVR will suffice.

@oneup03 Get an audio extractor or a USB sound card since your AVR is not 4:4:4 at 4K 60 The Kanex Pro HAECOAX3 is one of the few that supports HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, it also has pass-through support for Atmos. http://www.kanexpro.com/uploads/967-HAECOAX3-Manual.pdf

Yes Conan, I tested it now and I get the same error. I think it lost some data when I exported because a lot of values are missing. Use this one. It should work, I tested it.
Thanks!! Works perfect now, getting 3d 4k and 5.1 through my HDMI 2.0 receiver and you saved me 100.00. I think that this should be the default edid that people use because even if you don't need 5.1 it still works perfect in stereo. More options the better and it's perfect for those running HDMI 2.0 receiver as you don't need to run a second HDMI for audio. People with 1.4 receiver would still need to run a second HDMI for audio or get a sound card with Dolby Digital live which then uses optical cable. Also, I seem to have less ghosting with this updated mod. Could be placebo but seem to have a lot less ghosting in Outlast 2....

Hi there, Does this EDID support 7.1 + bit streaming as well? Haven't used it loads to be honest but did try BF4 using dolby atmos and it was subtle but really good in parts. If you don't know the answer guess I'll have to try it out myself :-) Thanks!
Hi, just to share: I was about to take the "nuclear option" and reinstall Windows and all my apps–again, but I found the solution. All I had to do was reset my HDMI port in the LG picture menu. I didn't think that would do anything other put all my settings back to default, but that did the trick. The 3D interleaved image went back to pristine. Whew! Hope that might help someone if you run into the same thing with blocky images in Nvidia 3D. Now the last hurdle to clear is HDR. I can't get the Nvidia menu to give an option to go above 8bit color. I have the HDMI port set set to "deep color." but I only have the option for RGB 8 bit. Fortunately it is giving me full range, just not 10-12 bit for HDR.
So you fixed the issue with 3D line interlaced work only 4K 3840x2160 by resetting the HDMI port ? what settings caused the issue , did you find out ? I have LG G556C with Acer EDID and somehow I made it work on every resolution , but it stopped working. i'm using Reshade + superdepth with Line Interlaced with scaling . It always work in Windowed mode, but only works 4K in full screen. all the other resolution give blur and passive 3D doesn't work. Anyone know how to run it perfect ? I'm using GPU Scaling Aspect Ratio.eee . I don't know how I made it work accidentally only one time.
