Upgrade to i7 or add another 480 in SLI ?
I have a duel core at the moment.

Would I get better FPS / performance for 3G vision by upgrading to an i7 or by adding a 480 card in SLI???

(I am mainly interested in playing bad company multiplayer online)

i7 for certain. You would see little to no benefit from adding another 480 with a dual-core because your CPU would be a bottleneck for their performance. It may already be a bottleneck for your single 480.

just to confirm, especially in bad company multiplayer, an i7 would give you a nice boost. pick up an i7 920 D0 revision and a decent after market cooler and get it to 3.6ghz or over and you will have a very capable gaming system that will eat your dual core for breakfast.

It might help if I knew which CPU exactly you are using and if it is overclocked. For NVIDIA 3D Vision, if you like to have the eye candy turned up, I would recommend a 2nd Geforce GTX 480 graphics card over a new CPU. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is more GPU limited than CPU limited.

We can't fix your bug if we can't reproduce it. Please provide as much details as possible including specs, steps to reproduce, graphics settings used, etc..

I agree with Manuel. Google a processor comparison and you will see how it affects gaming.

Since you're probably going to get a new mobo anyways you might want to look at getting a AMD AM3 board that also supports SLI. You could probably get a AM3/SLI mobo + Phenom x4 955 Black Edition cpu (great gaming cpu; i have one) for close to the price of a i7 alone. A Phenom x4 955 would be a big step up from a dual core.

Phenom ii x4 + GTX 480 is a really powerful combination. I've averaged over 50 fps (remember cap is 60fps) with a Phenom x4 955 + 260 sli's at 1680 x 1050 in 3d at medium settings. The GTX 480 is better than 260 sli's so it should be able to go further.

What resolution are you planning to run? Keep in mind that running 3D Vision will effectively double the number of pixels that must be rendered.

These guys are right, if you have a slow dual core, you may well be CPU bound. However, if you've already got an overclocked Wolfdale (i.e. E8400) or something and you are running at 1920x1080x2, you're going to want the extra graphics muscle.

Dual core what size CPU in GHZ would help. I tested one of my old Extreme duel core 6800 @ 2.93 Ghz stock clock is X 9 oc is unlocked to x 10 @ 3.2 GHZ and it runs BFBC2 just fine, NO BOTTLE neck here, and the old system has 2 GTX8800's. in Sli, so if you can get close to this setup you want have any problems..........CHEERS

PS: I can say with honesty I wasted money on my Newer systems to play my games :( , and you can never be to old to lean lessons the hard way.
