Releasing Fixes
You can see my last fixes, the download number is a single IP download.....Battleborn +40 download not a single thanks.....Mirror Edge Cayalyst +380 download and 1 donation (Thanks!).....Hitman +360 download (cracked the updated engine) not a single donation.....Unravel + 120 download, 3 thanks and no donation.....The Crew +140 download, not a single donation.......The Evil Within (not in the tracking), not a single donation (this game took me time to crack). so....6 games and 1 donation.
I think this was my donation in February 2016. Am I right? Personal I think donations are very important to keep the community alive. If every person using those fixes just sometimes would donate 10 EUR or even less, I think the motivation of our great shaderhackers would keep up and maybe new talented and gifted 3D vision gamers would start getting into it. I donated over 130 EUR since 2016. I don't tell you guys this to brag about. Just to show that I think it is normal to remunerate shaderhackers as well, even if it is b< a tiny amount. I mean we spent so much money on games, but playing those games with 3D vision is actually priceless. I am open to any commercial idea about 3D vision fixes. I am happy to continue to do my part in the community. Any person that works should be remunerated somehow.

With all due respect I think all of this is a bad move. Look, I of all people understand how it feels to not receive the gratitude and respect that is felt deserved. I've put in hundreds of hours on certain fixes (X-Com 2, I'm looking at you) and not received a single donation or hardly a word of thanks, and instead requests for further support for features not important to me (eg post release inclusion of SBS/TAB) or nitpicks over minute things. More importantly I've put out over 20 fixes, including some very high profile games and advanced/difficult fixes, yet I hardly ever even get a mention when people refer to the predominant contributors to this community (or worse, people often miscredit things I've done to others, usually you. Now how's that for a slap in the face?)... but I just take it in stride because that's just how it is, and I don't feel like the community owes me for something that I volunteered to do! But that's not always the case, most of the regulars here at least offer a thanks for the hard work, even if they don't plan on playing the game, and some (with the means to) generously donate to the individuals that they feel are deserving. What more can we expect from them? It's bad enough that we were all roped into buying into this technology and not get further support, that we all have to pay tremendous amounts of $ on hardware to play the games in the first place, then a ton on the games themselves... then to have to pay for what essentially boils down a graphics mod...? I mean, c'mon man, that's just exploitation! Please name another community that charges for mods, and I'll eat these words. It didn't float for Steam workshop, it shouldn't float here. But besides all that, my REAL gripe about this is...
The important thing to understand here is an AMAZING tool (like 3Dmigoto) without shaderhackers is useless, and 300 very skilled shaderhackers without a tool, also is useless.
... I think if shaderhackers were to start monetizing fixes, then there should be licensing fees for 3DMigoto. If SH's start making commercial fixes, and directly profiting from their hard work, then the 3DM dev's should be getting their piece of the action and SH's should be the ones funding them (why should end users have to pay for a fix AND for the tool itself? They don't care about features like we do, and they aren't the ones that request for features to be added/bugs to be fixed. We do)... but then how does that work? Do they get a percentage, a flat rate, or a monthly/yearly subscription fee for as long as the SH is charging for fixes? How to keep track of all that? Who gets what? How does all that get regulated? The way I see it, this is where things become a slippery slope and creates the very conundrum that you were talking about regarding the pooled funds account, only within the development community instead of the SH's (which, in my mind, is even worse). Honestly, I think this whole idea should get nixxed before it kicks up a shitstorm and causes more individuals to leave. May I ask, did you even talk to bo3b or DSS about this before making this decision to see how they would feel about it? It's one thing for a SH or two to leave out of frustration, but if the 3DM devs were (and perhaps one or more of them already have) to say f*** this and end development due to bad blood and feeling like their hard work and effort are not only being taken for granted but also being exploited for other people's gain, well, then that would be the biggest tragedy for the community. Do you really want to potentially be the catalyst that either causes this, or becomes the last straw? Anyways, do what you will, I just think it's moves like this that have turned this community from one of the nicest, most helpful & giving ones I've ever known into one where people fight & berate each other, call each other names, and now hold fixes hostage (to your credit, you're not even the first to do that :/)... I'm just glad I've already made my exit strategy before things all go completely to hell.

DJ-RK i see your point, it might get ugly fast and many can ask if he's getting compensated why im not. And vive versa plus all sort of questions. You SH should all have meeting about terms. My self and many don't mind about paying Little from time to time and it just is so that when paying Is not mandatory, you usually just forget to donate ect. Couldn't you make this "shopping list" of feature on the helix mod Pages, Times Download limiter. it's free, but like for first week or 2 it,s instant acces with donation or something. Figure out something together before this blows into everybodys faces.

DJ-RK, what's the alternative?! Chiri and his partner who created 3Dmigoto are long gone as is Helix who started this whole thing. Now we have shader hackers "retiring" left right and center, DSS is gone and may never return due to unfortunate mental issues (which I can completely relate to) and Bob as the master professor who helps the few shader hackers left but rarely fix's games himself and then you have the hard working Helifax who is amazing and is responsible for some amazing work with Frosbite engine. Who is left that is interested in fixing the majority of games? We have up and comers like MasterOtaku and Vlad, but the 3D scene needs to support shader hacker in whatever way possible. If that means supporting DHR with donations then I'm 100% behind that. I know for a fact that I'd not have enjoyed What remains of Edith Finch or Little Nightmares (special shoutout to MasterOtaku) in glorius 3D if it wasn't for DHR! and I don't mind having donated a total of 70USD this past month on donations. The scene here has gotten pretty grim in the past month and DHR coming back is awesome IMHO, as we don't very many shader hackers left. Losing 4EverAwake, DSS, etc has been a huge blow, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes not to lose the rest of the talented shader hacker we have left. Chiri, and his partner gave full permission to use 3Dmigoto when they abandoned it after the huge fallout with Helix releasing his Bioshock Infinite fix for free, just as Chiri was releasing his crowd funded fix... Helix then vanishing forever from the 3D scene was the nail in the coffin... until it was resurrected by the awesome shader hackers on this forum.

This is not an attack against you DJ-RK, and I truly appreciate the work you've done but with so few shader hackers left we need to support them i whatever way we can... Recently losing Mike, DSS, 4EverAwake, You, and whoever else is left will be the death of 3D vision.

I understand both sides. Niche games could be hurt with practises like this, and after a while people can get tired of having to pay directly for fixes. I would be sad if a fix I wanted wasn't released because of no donations. In my case, I'll keep releasing things as always. I'm not tired in the slightest, but I didn't have to fix any of the recent very complex games. Fixing stuff like WD2 or Quantum Break would be unthinkable for me. @DJ-RK, why and when did you abandon fixing? I still remember how much you helped me with Skyrim SE, and I'm very thankful for that. I won't mind sharing part of the donations I received with you.

DJ-RK, you're right, no other communitys charges for mods.. But other communitys has hundreds of modders to share the burden, not just a handfull of overloaded shaderhackers ! If DHR feels that this is the way for him, I don't see any harm done, except the fact that other SH don't get the same amount of money. Some common grund among the SH would be nice... I really hope that this wasn't your exit speech, you have made some very nice fixes in the past, and THANKS for that

DJ-RK When Helix suddenly became silent, when Eqzitara retired, when Mike announced he would no longer have time for fixes due to studies/work, when DSS stopped due to health concerns, I was heartbroken. When you and ForeverAwake announced you’re stepping back, I was devastated. I’ve donated games directly to shaderhackers over the years, I’ve always posted comments full of praise whenever I use a fix, I have encouraging words whenever I can for people fixing , assisting on fixes, or merely keeping 3D alive by whatever means they can. People do not always express their feelings. I did not necessarily comment in these posts about hackers leaving the scene. I’ve not even commented yet in this one related to DHR’s call for “acknowledgement” for hackers time and commitment to the 3D cause. Your reply made me post this comment. I totally understand your concerns. They are true, and such disparity in perceived “favoritism” or unfairness will often lead to frustration and the total devastation of a particular community. But we are no longer the community that we were before. There are very few active hackers now. We are lucky enough that some people like Bo3b still maintain the tools, people like Eqzitara still keep the blog alive and paid for, many hackers revisit their fixes when patches break them, like Helifax did recently for the Titanfall fix, people like D-Man11 provide links and explanations within two nanoseconds after people post a 3D question. I think it is understandable to see people’s reactions to DHR’s post. We are basically in full panic mode over our beloved community. I think Conan481 beat me to it, basically we are scared shitless that the most important thing in our lives (leasure-wise ofc) with disappear into oblivion, just like 3D functions will disappear from all TVs ever. I think it’s understandable that in such a context, people will try to throw money at the problem, as always. For me personally, it would be much easier to know that for 10eur I can buy a fix for a AAA game I’m interested in, and 5eur for a smaller/indie game. I know that there were heated discussions in the past, over whether this community should be driven by financial compensation or not, and the overwhelming preference among hackers was that no money be involved, ever. I never understood why. Yes, I get that there will be frustration, bad blood, with people feeling unappreciated, or discriminated against. But look what happens when a community works together towards solutions and synergies. Look what happened when Bo3b started his fixing school, or when hackers started collaborating on the same fixes. I would never have guessed your own emergence , or that of Forever Awake, on the scene. Or DHR’s growth into big title fix releases, or even DSS’s rise (I still see comments from him on the blog, where he was merely trying to understand what Eqzitara was doing in some fixes) into the only person to understand certain shader/engine patters. I’m pretty confident that if hackers collaborated, decided among them which fixes to pursue, then posted them for a price, it would avoid most of the issues. Even if a hacker would post a semi-fix for Dishonoured 2, charge only 2 eur, then another hacker would post a full fix a month later, for 10eur, I’m sure there will be people buying the first fix, then the second as well, or people on a strict budget would only pay for the lesser fix, just to play the game. Is that not better than nothing? I cannot comment on whether DHR is profiting from the aftermath of hackers leaving, to make a quick buck (why would he? Plus the money he gets is trivial). But if for him this little is enough motivation to continue fixing and not feeling that he totally wastes his time, is this not better than nothing? If I could motivate Mike to return, or solve DSS’s health issues, or any other hacker’s general disenchantment with the scene, just by paying a little, would that not be better than what we currently drift towards, like a wounded animal looking for a quiet place to die? I’m trying to keep the hope that in the end this community will find a way to survive. Let’s not forget that, just like we will all die on Earth when the sun dies down, even this community only has to live as long as Nvidia supports 3D Vision. Why make it even more difficult for us all, with rivalries and moral stances, etc. I THANK YOU ALL FOR EVERYTHING YOU’VE EVER DONE. IF IT’S FOR FREE, I’LL LEECH IT AND GIVE THANKS/SMALL DONATIONS. IF IT’S VERSUS PAY, I’LL PAY FOR IT AND SHUT UP (AND STILL GIVE THANKS/DONATIONS). PLEASE KEEP OUR DREAM ALIVE, WHATEVER IT TAKES!

DJ-RK - I genuinely feel bad for only listing a handful of SH's in my previous post. As you said, there are dedicated community members out there (yourself as a perfect example) who contribute massively. Masterotaku would be another example. I donated to DHR, but not to Masterotaku even though they both worked on the Little Nightmares fix for example (the only fix I have used in the last few months). In all honesty IMHO it is very difficult because of the nature of forums to remember all contributors, what they have worked on, who is still active, who has left, who is just starting to get involved and contribute (ie. the 'newbies'), who posts regularly in support of the forums and community (like PirateGuyBrush) or those who are just occassional consumers and supporters of the fixes like myself. Before I even suggested a pooled donation account I was well aware of the obvious issues with this, but I still strongly believe that this might be a fair solution - perhaps you could all agree on for example two or three 'tiers' of involvement/experience (from basic fix contribution/support, to mid level contribution, to master shader hacker) and agree the split of funds that way. I don't know...just continuing to try and think of ways around this. At the end of the day I'm sure the amount of money we are talking about will still just be a token gesture! Another thing that I might suggest to help address my first point..'who are the contributors' - to increase visibility of active contributors there should be a sticky or link to a doc that contains a list of the SH's, with some info about them, which fixes they worked on, their list of skills (relevant to 3D fixes of course) what years they have been active. The same could be done for those who are involved with 3D Migoto. Finally for historical interest the list could include people who were involved in the past, like a Hall of Fame. Apologies all for the rambling...just getting my thoughts out there :)

I haven't used any fixes yet but I don't have any problems to pay for fixes. I donate 20$ to Helifax last week and I'm willing to support others for paying fixes what I would play now or in future. Long time ago guy calles Hudson Kerr made new graphic updates for some tracks to rFactor 1. 99% from gamers was absolutely pissed but I understand-ed that it would takes so much time make those so I gladly paid.

Hi DJ-RK...thanks for posting your feelings and opinion. This is an OPEN discussion. I first want to say a few things: When threads about donation or ask for money appear in the forum i was one of the first to say NO. But since this get some speed (i also jump in, because i think all will be in), i also say that accepting donation need to be an ALL ACEPTING or NONE ACEPTING, because a mix in the long term will be very bad. I personally no need the donations to buy games or hardware to play in 3D. I thanks that i have a job i can afford this hobbie. This donation is to feel someway you are retributed for all the time you invest in fixes and releasing it (because that also take time) and i think that's why some shaderhackers leave the community (for the words you wrote i think you aswell); and also the others objectives in post #30. I don't want to run a business here, or profiting from the aftermath of hackers leaving or anything related (The GOALS are very low, most to cover the game price). I try to inject energy to the community and animate others to start fixing and participate more. If you feel that you dont receive all the gratitude and respect for your fixes, I INVITE YOU to adopt this mechanic (that can be improved) and don't go away. And I hope ALL of the SH adopt this mechanic also.
or worse, people often miscredit things I've done to others, usually you. Now how's that for a slap in the face?
I don't remember miscredit you. Please tell me when i do that.
The important thing to understand here is an AMAZING tool (like 3Dmigoto) without shaderhackers is useless, and 300 very skilled shaderhackers without a tool, also is useless.
What's wrong with that....is the pure true As far i can tell 3DMigoto is an open source and this mechanic is not charging for every single download (like games)....is a GOAL (low), GOAL reached and the fix is free for ever. We have 2 dev for 3Dmigoto: DSS and bo3b...not a single more!!! DSS have his patreon account where he receive every month a donation for this and buy games (he stated in his patreon account)....and i hope bo3b also adopt this mechanic (or other) and accepting donation (for example: maybe he can use the donation money to buy software to debugs things that help in the 3Dmigoto improvement, that otherwise he won't buy with his personal money). This mechanic can also be used in 3Dmigoto development. This will sound a little rude....but i don't need to ask anyone here for what i want to do with my life and time (not one listen when i say no to donation or says that donation need to be ALL IN or ALL OUT, otherwise will be bad in the long term)...i don't work for anyone in this forum (man, i don't even ask thing to my wife). I can freely walk away from this forum and still play/fix games in S3D, but i don't want that....i want this community to grow and i hope if there is money involve more users jump in and/or others come back!!....on the fixing part or develepment part, not all have the same skills, both need to be retributed. The example with Bioshock Infinite and Chiri was a f**king KICK IN THE BALLS for him and his partner. He spend a lot of time (and maybe money) in 3DMigoto and when he was about 90% of GOAL...BAM!! The fix was released for free....i think: "Holy Shit!! Chiri will never put a finger in this forum or the community in his life, probably he stop gaming for ever". End results: Chiri is gone and helix is gone. And later Chiri in a tremendous act of generosity give 3Dmigoto for free and Open Sourced....the only one i probably need to ask or talk about this is Chiri. With this mechanic (that can be improved) i want to more people get involve in fixing and improve 3Dmigoto and hope others retired ones come back!!!. I don't want to profit with this; this is not a profitable business if i wanted to do that.
