I hope NVidia supports this new 3D HMD from Sony
  7 / 7
It is only 45 FOV, ppl should remember this. It will not get you in to anything, it's just display that appear at some depth. I'm hoping it's somethig like i have now, sitting 2.3 meters away from 77" screen, quite close to that FOV. I think it will appear smaller though, there is nothing to compare image when everything is dark around it. 3D image will appear even smaller and that is what i see now with 77", 3D image seems a smaller after a while. After i moved my gear to my light controlled room, i also noticed when totally dark room 3D seems to be "less 3D". But anyway i think sony hmd will have best 3D image around, you just can't get ghosting, no flicker, smooth movie experience, motion resolution is high and OLED should give nice image overall... But it will not be VR helmet at all and i don't think sony never sayd it will be one. Just personal display device.

BTW.It seems that release here(Finland) is pushed to december, too bad.

No one should buy this product unless they try it out first. Many will disappointed if not. For the UK price I would prefer to spend the cash on a 3D surround system.

Sony has to go horribly wrong with this product for me not purchasing it. The possibility of having a portable HD 3d display that you can carry anywhere no matter the light conditions is just too good. Of course I won't bite that this is like watching a movie in a 700'' inch cinema screen, but for me if the image quality is good and the 3d works as expected (no ghosting, flickering, etc) and it's compatible with nvidia 3d solution, I'll get one.

Besides, I've heard in threads like this http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=443044&page=29 it needs a bit of adjustment to set it up right:
The visor itself needs to be adjusted so that the lens/display are situated right at eye level, otherwise the view was blurry. For whatever reason this is not a "put on the visor and it just works" type of affair, but the view looked pretty good after spending some time adjusting the visor."

About getting the 'illusion' of being in front of a huge screen:

Oh, also make sure you use the top AND bottom light blocker to give the illlusion of a larger screen size. Again, I don't know the reason but that's what I feel.

Well, I'm back from the sony store, all in all, my opinion: OMFG!!!!

Sorry if you find my english lacking since it's not my language. My impressions:

The size of the unit is more less what I expected it to be, it's not huge but not small either. Weight wise, it's ok too, not light but acceptable, basically, it is what I expected to be in weight / size.

I use glasses so this is one of the things that worried me most. The HMD can be hard to fit properly at first with glasses, and they guy didn't help at all so slowly I made my way to make it fit. Once I had it on, it was ok, the glasses didn't hinder the experience at all, and the so much talked weight on the nose and forehead was there, but it didn't seem so bad to me, thanks nvidia for making annoying, heavy glasses for 3d vision, I got trained for this HMD! Maybe after 1 hour or 2 I would get stiff neck or something, but for the 20 minutes or so that I used I really didn't care much for the weight of the device.

Now I have to say that I use an acer H5360 so my impressions are based on this. With the h5360 I get a huge screen and no ghosting but it lacks in blacks and sharpness. Probably someone with a big monitor/tv with low ghosting and great blacks wouldn't be so impressed with the device, but for me it was amazing!

First the guy fired a ps3 with a demo of Gran Turismo 5, and it looked incredible. The 3d effect was top notch (though as a 3d vision user I was wishing I could tweak depth/conv for better effect lol), it was really smooth and incredibly sharp, no ghosting or flickering at all. Then I got a demo reel with many vids of sharks, cars, kids in the snow, carnival and so on that looked great, however videos seemed to me like they were not as smooth as the gran turismo demo, still image quality was stunning and the 3d was great. Ironically the best part was the sony 3d logo that had great depth and showed the amazing blacks.

About the 750'' inch screen illusion, I had the light blockers that did a good job at isolating you from the light outside, although the low blocker still filtered some light. In any case, I understand why Sony says that it seems like a cinema screen, it really has some feeling that you are watching a big screen instead of two tiny lcds but you aren't going to be blown away and make you believe that you're in a cinema, still my impression is that it feels like you're in front of a big screen.

About the sound, at first it felt really underwhelming, however I adjusted the headphones and it improved a lot. I couldn't say if it was 5.1, I simply couldn't notice the sound sources surrounding me at all, and the store noise didn't help, but it was ok quality for me, maybe in a quiet room it would sound better.

I didn't have any problem focusing in the image or blurry edges like some people say, the image was clear without a problem, and I didn't have to set up anything in the unit to make it work. However something that can become annoying is that when you move your head, the image goes with you, and with 3d, this can become slighty annoying, it's hard to explain without trying it, it's like your brain saying that something is not right since it seems to expect the image to move accordingly to your head movement. Supposedly on a couch and your head still it won't be much of a problem but on the store it could become annoying, nothing that would kill the experience though.

One thing that is a bit of a problem is that obviously, with the light blockers, there's not a chance that you're going to see a keyboard or a mouse. I have a zboard fang and a good old 8 button logitech mouse that will help with that but if you're using a regular keyboard/mouse this could be an issue.

And the biggest problem for me, the clerk said that it would be out in december and cost 800 euro! that's USD 1110! I like the thing but that's too much. I'll probably import it since your USD 800 is 575 euro, that's half the price, even with custom taxes it would be cheaper.

So to summarize:

+ great 3d effect!
+ incredibly sharp
+ great blacks
+ overall amazing image quality
+ gaming on ps3 was just perfect, really smooth and excellent 3d
+ feels like you're in front of a big screen
+ It isolates rather well from light outside
+ obviously the portability of the device

- light blockers won't let you see the mouse / keyboard sadly as expected
- moving your head too much with 3d can make you feel dizzy.
- video playback on the demo reel seemed to frameskip, couldn't check blu ray playback.
- sound was ok, 5.1 wasn't apparent, don't know if it was set up properly though.

Will I get one? Of course, when the price is right.

thanks for the impressions sounds great! I'm using an HD66 projector which is similar to your H5360 so I'm hoping for increased blackness and sharpness also, but I'm really looking forward to increased brightness more than anything when gaming in 3D. The HD66 is great at producing a ghost free picture but I really want more brightness. Did you immediately notice a brighter picture compared to what you are used to with the 3D vision glasses on the H5360 projector? (This is assuming that you do not have a high gain screen at home) thanks
