Hello Everybody!!! /wave.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I believe NVIDIA don’t develop a stereo driver for Directx 10 (Windows Vista) because the stereo gaming is a small market. /fear.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fear:' />
But it can be bigger. In Fact 3D Stereo Gaming for PC is great. /geek.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':geek:' /> But how many gamers know about its existence?
The 3D stereo is not correctly promoted then many possible consumers don’t know about this then they can’t buy products like ShutterGlasses or many other stuff.
The most part of people wrongly think 3D only works with a couple of games.
Then I say NVIDIA should at less put an ad of 3D stereo in the main page of its site or if they not plan continue developing Stereo Drivers should open the source code.
If they release the sources, I and other programmers could make a GNU version for Vista and Linux. :magic:

I have a pair of 3D shutter glasses, and they are AWESOME! Until you have seen it it is difficult to appreciate what a huge difference it makes. The only trouble is, LCD monitors just don't have high enough frame rates. But it is in nVidia's interest for people to be using 3D shutter glasses. If you are displaying two images you need twice the GPU horsepower to make it work, thus a lot more people would be buying high end graphics cards and SLI setups. The monitor problem is silly, though. My Monitor, for instance, has a 2 ms response rate, so it would easilly run at, say, 150 Hz (one frame every 6.5 ms), but it is limited artificially to 75Hz. This gives 37.5Hz for 3D. I used to have a monitor that would do 200Hz at 640X480, or 120Hz at 1024X768. This was ideal for 3D, but my old 5200 just did not have the juice to make it fully viable. Now I have good HP, but the monitor won't let me. nVidia, we would love you to open us up to full on proper 3D gaming, not 3D images rendered onto 2D screens. The technology has been here for years, and games provide an endless source of 3D imagery. Virtually all games generate 3D images and can be used by shutter glasses. nVidia, you have a good history in 3D support (although 3D support in all driver releases would have been admirable.) Please PLEASE persuade monitor manufacturers to join you in supporting this facility. You have the clout to start a new initiative, and it is in your own interests to do so. I searched long and hard for an LCD monitor just for this, but was unable to find one. If you treat this like SLI, you will find the two support each other. This is the future of gaming. There is nothing quite like seeing a 3D object in 3D. It really does look real. You can see the depth and the detail in amazing clarity. It actually suddenly shows you what the virtual world looks like, and strangely goes from being what you are used to to being somehow computer generated when you can see the textures mapped onto shapes, rather than the 2D image. Difficult to explain, really, but it generates thirst for more realism, and 3D graphics are getting ever nearer to the point of diminishing returns (as opposed to making huge strides towards realism.) 3D promotion would give a shot in the arm to a company like nVidia. Maybe nVidia doesn't 'need' that, but in the battle against ATI, it is in nVidia's interest to get all the help it can. And then we could all watch our games in REAL 3D. We deserve it, nVidia deserves it, the hardware designers deserve it, but above all the games programmers deserve to have their creations seen in their full glory. Please?
Edit: Just to underline, virtually ALL games will run in 3D! I was amazed by the level of support for this through DirectX/nVidsia drivers. The games don't actually have to be written to support it.

One thing people don't mention about the benefit of 3d is the extra detail that the human eye perceives. A game at 1024 X 768 resolution actually looks almost twice as good in 3d because the brain combines the two seperate images and because they are from slightly different perspectives, the combined image is percieved as more detailed. Try this and see. It is most noticeable when using some Anti-Aliasing. Simply look at a very detailed scene in game, and then use the function keys to get rid of the stereo effect. The difference is amazing. It is one reason I will play a game in stereo at 1024 X 768 on my DLP projector and not notice a big difference in detail when I switch back to 2d and use my 1600 X 1200 LCD monitor.

The same efect is when the 2D normal DVD movie is projected as 3D movie ( "pseudo stereo") mode with stereoscopic player software from P.Wimmer (www.3dtv.at ) with active edimesional shutterglasses. One eye see first frame, the second eye the next frame ....etc. Result? subjective cca 50% better resolution and real stereoscopy efect when the camera is moving. It is possible use of 85 Hz refresh, flicker is minimally. The Planet Earth BBC DVD with this is absolutly bombastic with projector (XGA, DLP, Benq PB6240).

Guys. Great posts all of these! I am in full agreement with you. Film companies are pouring money into the techology so that films will be seen in full 3D in the future. Games are already there but need a small skilled dedicated staff to continue to provide Driver support. Nvidia had this, but there latest driver has not been updated in half a year and I and MANY others are not buying the new 8XXX cards (AND I WOULD LOVE TO) because there is no 3D support.
Come on Nvidia - remember when you were the underdogs to 3DFX and kicked tail... go back to that mentality please.

This is my case. I have an DLP Projector, sutter glasses and just bought a 8800GTX to replace my 7950GX2. But why you say that 3d stereo doesnt work on 8800? Is that a fact? I tryed some combinations of video and stereo drivers to try to reach some usable but no success till now. But it seems to me bugs of something like that. I always get some kind of problem, but it seems i'm always close to reach some good 3d effect. I'm trying crysis and Call of Duty 4.

I think we should all thank people like Samsung and Mitsibushi who stepped up to the plate and went 3D. I own a Samsung Dlp and have 2 DLP projectors, which my friends cant believe the quality of Stereo you can get .So with TVs coming online I hope we will continue with 3D software. Convince any body you know that is looking for a TV to purchase one of the new DLP 3D tvs , they are very very good .The bulbs will live longer than most people. Sales will dictate what happens ... bottom line.
