Windows 10 Megathread - Please keep Win10 discussions here

Weird thing there... I think we should submit a bug and just let them know that 3D Vision Automatic is busted in the driver for Witcher 3 and that CM mode is flickering like crazy... Something definitely changed in the Win10 drivers and the "fixes, bits, timings" that nvidia did for Win7/8 drivers don't apply properly in the Win10 driver (with the new WDDM)... At least they should investigate. Can someone send them a ticket with this issue? and explain the issue? I still haven't updated to Windows 10 (after it didn't end up well last night on one of my laptops and I am a bit afraid of trying it just yet on my Desktop), so can't really help here :(

They are supporting W7 for another 5 years according to Microsoft. I highly doubt that installing W10 somehow triggers a W7 self-destruct sequence. Simply reformatting and reinstalling W7 should be perfectly acceptable. But "rolling back" to W7? Yeah, it makes sense that this could not be done indefinitely. I have a 2006 laptop with a retail version of W7 on it. I started the upgrade process last night. I never use the old laptop so I have nothing to lose. Anxious to see what happens on a disposable piece of equipment before I go messing with my precious desktop PC!

Yes, while we think you will love all the features of Windows 10, you will have one month after upgrading to revert back to the previous version of Windows on your device.

Thanks.

I can confirm the Witcher 3 issue. I was coming from a copy of Witcher 3 that has never been fixed (haven't gotten to playing it yet), so I went through the instructions from scratch. Next, I'll install the latest Win8 driver to confirm whether it's a driver or OS issue. EDIT: Confirmed OS issue, doesn't happen under latest Win8 drivers.

lol..Windows 10 is fine for 3D.. been using it for months. Upgrade all you want its far better then windows 8.1. This is NOT the place to come to get help on Win 10.. 3D sure.. You can tell Win10 NOT to update the drivers.. or have it pick them.. blah blah blah... My system is not better some how. 3D Vision works fine .. installed find. Tridef works.. from before *160..up to *240.. till now.. But really? You had months to install this and test and have fun.

Nope, it's not fine. Witcher 3 is completely broken, for starters. We're still in the process of testing it to see how everything else runs. It's certainly not as bad as it could have been, but it's not something everyone should just install yet. Interesting note in this article, W10 does peer-to-peer updates, meaning you'll be downloading and uploading Windows updates to/from other people on the internet. And it's switched on by default. http://venturebeat.com/2015/07/29/windows-10-tips-for-gamers-how-to-save-your-bandwidth-do-a-clean-install-and-more/

Hi, another problem is, that every application that use DirectX, for exampla a game or TV-Software (DVBViewer) instantly switch my benQ monitor to 3D. In the nvidia driver was a point to configure the behavior of 3D: "turn on by Hand", "turn on by software including windowed-mode" and "turn on by software in full screen only". These Settings are not not in the driver-menü. I used the third (full screen only). Do somebody know a solution to get this point back? Regards Flixer

encase its been said or not open SYSTEM then Advanced system settings, click Hardware TAB then select DEVICE Installation settings. So you can tell it what to install. Not have MS over write some drivers YOU want.

Really good review of Win10 and some current problems: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/07/review-windows-10-is-the-best-version-yet-once-the-bugs-get-fixed/ It's a good start, but if you upgrade your 3D machine to Win10 for anything except experimentation, then you are explicitly saying that you care more about the OS than you do about 3D. For me, the OS is simply the way that I can play in 3D, and not an end in itself. Other people may of course care deeply about the OS.

If Windows 10 was as robust as the Mac OS, I'd upgrade in a heart beat. But it's just the same Windows, with all the same old warts, who's only purpose is to try and assimilate people to a familiar setting so they'll buy Windows phones. So, yeah, there's ZERO reason for me to make that upgrade any time soon. Maybe next year I'll consider it. Until then, I'll stick with my 7 key.

Upgraded my old laptop to W10, and now it's stuck in an endless crash-after-2 minutes-then-reboot cycle. .. And the start menu won't activate. I think I'm gonna hafta download an .iso with the desktop PC and do a clean install on the laptop. I know that would've been the best way to go, but I was concerned about the licensing issues.

On the driver auto-install issue, this might help some, like me ;-) , going in and turning off the auto driver update. https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/3f2jmx/help_with_nvidia_control_panel_in_windows_10/ Sorry, can't test 3D right now, but fiddling with some "other" machines.

In your case, you can disable the WIFI from BIOS. If it boots uninstall all drivers related to wifi and then re-enable the WIFI. Maybe this helps you out;)
