New discovery for tri/quad sli users and 3d vision
I have successfully got 3d vision to work with quad sli in some games. ONLY DX10 games will utilise quad sli at this stage. No DX9 games will work with 3d vision. I sent chris ray a PM and he told me that the current drivers should support quad sli. I installed cd 1.19, and quad sli does infact work, but only with DX10 titles.
For example; RE5 utilises quad sli if in DX10 mode; when in DX9 mode it wont.
The following games work with quad sli; ( Ican verify quad sli is working by enabling sli visual indicator, and the temps of the cards)
Gears of War
RE5
DMC4
Far Cry 2
Assasins Creed
Crysis
and so on...
Does anybody know if there is away we can trick the drivers into thinking a DX9 game is actually a DX10 game? This way we can have tri/quad sli for all games.
Or maybe can someone send this info to nvidia support, maybe they know a workaround...
I stand by this testing, i have spent hours on it.
BTW i have tried messing with nhancer and dx9 games (ticking the DX10 box and profiles), but no luck..

WOW! good job! Sorry, I dont have anything to add to your post. But i do have a couple questions for you if you have the time to answer. can you run quad sli in dx9 with 3d vision turned off in the control panel? have you had any luck disabling the second 295 to run dx9 games in 3d? Any input on whats the best way to install the second 295 in a system that has 3d installed and one 295 currently? thanks and good luck!

Dude there is absolutely no issue in playing dx9 games whilst in quad sli. It just doesnt utilise the 2 cards, only the one. I can use quad sli with 3d turned off with no problems aswell. I would reinstall everything if your having issues with this.

I'm not sure this is correct. From day one, I've had the SLI indicators work with games in 3d mode- however the performance results do not seem to support this. Try benchmarking in 3d with SLI on, then switch SLI off- for me, the results are the same. Not trying to say you're wrong, just that this doesn't seem to be the case for me, even though the indicators say otherwise. I have all of the games you have listed as well. In non-3D mode the difference is huge with SLI enabled, for comparison.

no im positive quad sli is being utilised in the games mentioned. i have tried without sli, and it halves my frames. RE5 max settings with 16AA, constant 60fps, now that has to be quad sli working.

do u get the sli indicators in dx9?
Thanks for sharing this...now that I have a SLI capable mobo I have been thinking on a second 295 :-)
I do have some questions for you.
So DX9 wont work Quad but still a single 295 will work fine. How about a game like Batman that can use a physx card. I currently use a GTS250 for phsyx. Are you able to use the second card as physx if the game is only DX9 and still use the 295 to run the game under 3d vision?
Thanks

i dont know about the quad- i can never get it working on my system- but batman can run at 1080p with highest AA, all settings max including physx without any frame rate loss. I just overclocked my 295 a bit and its totally smooth!! I would say that even only using one 295 in 3d you will be fine! Thats been my experience so far. Batman is amazing maxed out!

Very interesting! thanks for the response! i wonder why i cannot get 3d to install correctly when i have my quad sli installed (it wont detect my tv)? Im really stoked to hear that quad sli works once you unclick the 3d vision- i just wish it worked on my pc. Im going to play around with this this weekend when i have time-ill post my results. keep up the good work!

A dedicated physx card works perfect, i have a 9800gt as one.
Yes in DX9 you will get the performance of 1 GTX 295, any DX10 game (including AVATAR now) will get quad sli performance.
On a side note; anyone with BATMAN that has a savegame on either; the final boss joker or a scarecrow level, can you please upload it for me.
I hope someone works out why DX10 vs DX9 works with quad sli.
Does anyone know where the 3d vision game profiles are stored? want to analyse and edit them.

There are slowdowns in the benchmark (min of 47fps), but in game it is a constant 60fps. As for Avatar i havent really played much of it, but while in the compound in the beggining of the game it hovers around 40fps; thats max settings with 8xAA

I think you sort of confirmed my fears though- simply because RE5 scales so well on nvidia gpu hardware. When not in 3D mode, I can run the RE5 benchmark at ~200 frames at 1920x1200. Lowering the rez to 1680x1050 to play in 3D really shouldn't be taking the framerate down to the 40's. (it does it for me too though, and it dips in the same scenes in the game for me as well). If it went down to 80 frames, 70 even I could still believe QuadSLI was being properly utilized when 3D is active. But not when games like Arkham Asylum (that don't scale as well with GPU power compared to RE5) remain consistently above 8o-90 fps, in 3D with heavy AA, in DX9 on top of it all.
I have a Matrox TH2Go Digital and can run RE5 at 5040x1050 resolution across 3 screens in non-3d much smoother than when using the 3D vision kit pushing less than half the pixels (albeit in 3d) in the same scenes.
I dunno, I mean you might be right, and it very well could be something in particular with my setup- but I would never expect 4 powerful GPU's to drop well below 60 frames in one of Capcom's MT Framework pc games, by adding 3d at a lower resolution.

Thanks daniel, bit i was aware of this. There must be another path, because this path does not have all the game profiles in it.
Thought please....

Thanks
PS I hope my question was clear.... lol

i dont know about the quad- i can never get it working on my system- but batman can run at 1080p with highest AA, all settings max including physx without any frame rate loss. I just overclocked my 295 a bit and its totally smooth!! I would say that even only using one 295 in 3d you will be fine! Thats been my experience so far. Batman is amazing maxed out!

System:
Intel I7 920 overclocked to 4ghz
Asus Rampage Extreme II
2 Ge-force 480 in SLI
GTX 295 PhysX Card
12gb ddr3 2000mhz ram
Intel SSD in RAID 0
BR RW
1000w Sony surround sound
NVIDIA 3D Vision
3d displays tested:
Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)
Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)
Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)
23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)
Samsung 65D8000
Very interesting! thanks for the response! i wonder why i cannot get 3d to install correctly when i have my quad sli installed (it wont detect my tv)? Im really stoked to hear that quad sli works once you unclick the 3d vision- i just wish it worked on my pc. Im going to play around with this this weekend when i have time-ill post my results. keep up the good work!

Thanks
PS I hope my question was clear.... lol

And what kind of framerates are you getting in Avatar in DX10, in game 3D control, AA?

I dunno, I mean you might be right, and it very well could be something in particular with my setup- but I would never expect 4 powerful GPU's to drop well below 60 frames in one of Capcom's MT Framework pc games, by adding 3d at a lower resolution.

is this what you are looking for? game profiles are in the registry.
found info at: http://3dvision-blog.com
example for WOW= HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\
hope this helps- let me know if it does..

Thanks daniel, bit i was aware of this. There must be another path, because this path does not have all the game profiles in it.
Im looking for something more like nvapps.
