W10 S is dead
I doubt anyone here is using it, but the articles are somewhat interesting. w10 S is being integrated into W10. If you are not familiar with W10S, it was a version of Windows 10 that "only" allows apps from the "Micosoft Store" to be used. This was also meant as a cheap OS to compete with Google Chrome OS. https://www.pcworld.com/article/3194280/windows/windows-10-s-faq-everything-you-need-to-know-about-microsofts-streamlined-operating-system.html If you tried to install an app that is not obtained via the Windows Store, you'd get a popup saying you couldn't do it. But it would offer a link to puchase an upgraded W10 version, that does allow 3rd party apps. https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/151578/new-windows-10-consumer-sku-roadmap-revealed https://www.pcworld.com/article/3252103/windows/microsoft-making-windows-10-s-default-with-new-versions.html So the jest of this is..., most new PCs purchased, will be loaded with what was formally Windows 10S. Thus locking new desktop/laptop purchasers into the Windows Store. Their only option would be to update to a fuller version of Windows 10. Microsoft is betting that most will not, thus effectively increasing purchases from their Store.
