A list of general 3d Vision performance issues needing to be sorted out/ clarified
Ok I was wondering if we users can make a list of issues that we are having that we are struggling with as a group. I for one have several issues that I cannot sort out as being due to Nvidia products or peculiarities of my system alone. Perhaps Nvidia will take note of these issues and maybe let us know if they are solvable. In the meantime maybe we as users can come to a consensus and help each other with their solution.

My list is as follows: please add to it but try to stick with non specific user issues. I know that is hard to determine in many cases and that is the point of this thread to try and sort them out.

1)- general flickering in some games .. every 5 to 10 seconds ... examples Need for speed underground is the only title I have that does this but i see several threads on this. I suspect lower frame rate (30 or so) may have something to do with it? It seems to be the slowest frame rate i get with any game and the only one that flickers at all in non sli mode.

2)- severe flickering in games when using SLI .. every 2 or 3 seconds. examples.. for me every game i run in sli seems to have some trouble in this regard. I am suspecting this may be a peculiarity of my system since i see other sli users saying they have no problems. My problem may relate to having nvidia motherboard SLI 790i ultra but i cant be sure. Any user input on this?

3)- frame rate issues on some games.. examples? WOW.. I have a pretty powerful system so i don't really have much problem with this but I see some have problems with WOW in certain circumstances. Others?

4)-games that should work in s3d being blocked from going into stereo or going in reluctantly.. example original Burnout Paradise demo, Empire total war. For me Burnout demo did not run in stereo until the profile was updated by Nvidia. Empire, I actually had running in stereo and now I cant get it to go into stereo no matter what settings i change. I see some people "trick" the system by renaming the executable to something in the Nvidia profile.. Why does or doesn't that work?

5)-ghosting .. personally I dont have much problem with this since i have seen far worse than the current solution in previous generations of s3d that I have used. Still I am sure it is a bigger problem for some. Is this a user specific issue (settings, display type?) or is this a systemic issue?

6) others?

My specs: Blackbird 002
Nvidia geforce 3d glasses, Samsung 120hz monitor, vers 1.05 drivers, GPU: dual nVIDIA gtx280 sli; RAM: 4GB; CPU: Intel Core 2, qx9770 quad; OS: Vista 32; Mothballed 3d hardware: eDdimensional, z800

Im getting this quite a bit now, Pretty distracting. Happening in Team fortress 2 a lot (has gotten me sniped a few times) and Burnout Paradise.

Anyone else getting this and have found a fix at all? Mine happens every 5-10 seconds (maybe a bit more intermitent then that but generally)

I didnt notice it at all when i first got my 3D vision and fairly certain it wasnt happening before.

Hi Fox12, a few questions: are you running sli? what are your system specs, driver version? what frame rates are you getting? with and without stereo on? have you checked your latency? download http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml) . I am not sure if any of this matters. just trying to get a complete picture.

I think the problem with this self help user forum idea is that we need more users who hate to play games but love to solve problems. I think most of us on this forum ( me included) are too busy enjoying s3d to spend time solving each others problems .. that may be a good thing .. or not.. :)..

Although anyone that plays WoW has issues, I'm not really worried about the frame rate issue. The lowest I get is around 25 fps which is good enough for me. I do however have other issues that indeed bother me, and the main one is double images in some places. I'm not sure if it's the same thing that some people call ghosting, but it's possible. WoW does have many areas that the 3D effect will cause major problems like the map. It also happens in other games like Crysis. Hopefully I'm not the only one that experiences this, but anyone that has tried to use a weapon with a scope should have a double image target. I find I have to shoot for the one that's not there (in between the 2 images) in order to hit the target. I'm hoping that they can fix this issue, as it's very annoying.

Also I have had occasional problems with the glasses malfunctioning at times with the left lens blinking on and off 5 times, then back to normal. Also I've had the right lens just go black for several seconds, and it happened when I was shooting at a game character. Everything is normal when I'm just moving around, but when I engaged a target, the right lens went dark and after the target died, the lens started working fine again. This happened quite a few times during that part of the game. Other than that I have no complaints.

Well that certainly seems not too sluggish. Burnout Paradise I run with no problem so something is different between our setups. Same drivers though. I haven't tried team fortress. I have it though Ill give it a try and see if i get the flickers.

Have you tried using the 3d laser sight settings to deal with the sniper scope issue? problem I usually have with scopes and big weapons like bazooka's is that the convergence is such that the image is blocked or too extremely split , unless I turn the s3d effect way down and ruin the rest of the game.

Which settings do you mean? I do use the nvidia laser sight, you really have to for it to work properly. And of course you have to turn off the in-game sight. Still that doesnt' help when using a scope, the image is always split and hard to hit. I have a feeling it is actually the same problem that causes mis-convergence in WoW. for some reason the 3D effect is always messed up on secondary items and various 2D objects. This happens in all games I've tried so far, but Crysis is the worse I've seen. I hope they can figure out a fix for this, it will really help the ability hit a target.

The nvidia sight was what i was referring to. I know what you mean about scopes sometimes; I usually just toggle out of 3d in scope mode and switch back afterwards on those titles. In the old old XP drivers there was a setting you could use to limit the 3d effect based on how close it was to you. It might be nice to have that feature back unless game designers get s3d savvy.

For an update, I found that the scope in COD4 works properly. So far Crysis is the one that has the problem mostly. It's terrible. Might not be an issue with the 3D vision system and with the game itself. Or there could be a graphics setting to turn off that will fix it but not that I've found. Crysis would get a much better rating for 3D if that worked properly..
