Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for a couple weeks now. This seems like my kind of community. I get tired of reading stuff from gamers putting down 3D in video games so its nice to see a bunch of people here that are passionate about it like I am.
I just recently bought my first gaming PC in many years and I've always been a 3D enthusiast; been playing lots of 360 and PS3 games in 3D for about a couple years or so now but finally jumped in to the PC side because it was clear that 3D is not going to be supported moving forward on consoles and I assumed that it was going to have much more of a presence on the PC. Though after reading some threads on here the last couple weeks its seems maybe the thrill is dying out on the PC as well? At least from a developers supporting it perspective.
Anyway, what games do you guys suggest playing in 3D? I've tried tons already but I'm looking to buy some new games. Just played Metro 2033 in 3D and that was amazing! I was pretty disappointed that Far Cry 3 doesn't run very well in 3D and is there a fix for Hitman Absolution? The option to pick 3D is grayed out for me and I couldn't really find a clear fix for it.

Farcry 3 works great in 3D. http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/farcry3-dx9-only-3d-vision-fix.html
That site has a tonne of fixes.
As for games, the Assassins Creed games from 1 to Revelations work phenomenally well, because of the third person perspective you can have the convergence extremely high. The Mass Effect games all work amazing, Skyrim and Oblivion, Max Payne 3, the Portal games, Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Just a few off the top of my head.
Just wondering, are you aware of what convergence is, and how to change it?

Check my blog in my comments. Might help you out. You probably need newest version of firefox to see videos though.
Well anywho like cooky said most important thing to do with 3d vision is convergence.
Is second most. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/
You can "kinda" rely on nvidia control panel->View compatibility with games. It tends to lie/be wrong I would recommend only looking at 3d vision ready/excellent.

No I'm still sort of relatively new to PC gaming, especially in 3D. I used to play PC games about 10 years ago but I've been out of the loop for a while now so I'm not familiar with what convergence is but I've been looking around and reading lots of things lately. I keep hearing of this Helix guy and his fixes for games. Apparently he is somewhat of a hero within the 3D community from what I'm gathering.
I play/have played tons of games already on 360 or PS3 (though not all in 3D) and a some PC games as well on a friends computer so I'm trying to find new games I haven't played. I did try Max Payne 3 a while back and that one was very nice in 3D. I was really wanting to try the new Assassins Creed 3 in 3D but apparently that isn't working properly? I never played Revelations so maybe I should play that one instead?
Thanks for all the suggestions and help. Bare with me, I'm sort of new to all this.

I can sum up convergence in two pictures.
http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/06/how-to-unlock-convergence-in-locked.html
Double click pictures if you cant see it should install what you need. Compare left/right resident evil 5 picture. Basically did you ever see a 3d movie or play a 3d game and even though you can tell its two different images with glasses off it appears "flat" with glasses on. Thats convergence. 3D gaming on pc is kinda of like 10 x more effective then consoles (no offense)
Well anywho go into
Nvidia control panel->set up stereoscopic 3d->set keyboard shortcuts->advanced-> Convergence [Probably want to assign your own keys]
Go into game and hold down for a few seconds till you see scene "shift". Dont go crazy with it since still new to 3D. Like closest object to screen should be 2D. Then when you are more familiar with 3D increase.
Definetly check out my blog though imo. I guess you can say I am an "advanced" user and I tend to make it easy for other people.

Thanks for the info man! Its really appreciated.
Also, to ask again, is there a fix for Hitman Absolution? And is the new Tomb Raider good in 3D? I'm disappointed the Bioshock Infinite doesn't seem like its going to get any support.
I'm also a bit confused on the 3D ratings for games. Some games say "excellent" or "good" but they are either way better or worse than described so I do find the ratings to be a bit off because some people suggest games that are labeled as "good" while not recommending some that are rated "excellent". Last time I tried Skyrim it was unplayable in 3D but it seems like there are some fixes now.

Tomb Raider is amazing, probably like on everyone1's top 10 list. You NEED newest update though and its recommended you turn post processing off.
The older ones don't look too shabby either.
Hitman Absolution. Doesnt work for some people, works for others no one knows why. Doesnt look good in 3D regardless.
Bioshock infinite works on a software called Tridef. Your display needs to support Side by side to use tridef[May need to google that]. Its not perfect but people who can play it on tridef seem to be happy.
Assasins Creed all EXCEPT 3 look great in 3D. Assasins Creed Revelations DOES NOT work with steam version. You need a retail version updated to 1.02, Helix didn't patch the latest version thats why.
Like I said ignore 3d vision ratings. They list on one site Borderlands 2 is 3D vision supported and in game its listed as not recommended[Though I modded it and added support. Its on my blog with videos if interested]. Look at ratings that I mentioned earlier in nvidia control panel and only look at 3d vision ready/excellent. The only games that are rating excellent that I dont recommend are Crysis 2/3, Deus Ex. Then again Crysis 2/3 and deus ex are kind of like console 3D so maybe you wont mind. They probably only "underrate" like 10 games in whole list. Off the top of head all I can think of is Tomb Raider 2013 / Rayman Origins
Skyrim is rated excellent when it shouldnt be as well BUT Skyrim needs helix mod and these instrutions https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/540685/3d-vision/skyrim-3d-vision-weird-effect-hurts-eyes-how-do-i-fix-/ Ignore the guy, he is a bit foreign, it works. Its also on a lot of people's top 10 lists.
I tend to give honest reviews on my blog, I am trying to undue nvidia's list at least a bit. Well anywho find some good games and start from there. Like tomb raider, trine 2, any game on helixmod site by Helix, most of mine are pretty good and include a video, etc. Start with games you have and work your way from there. Alot of 3D vision users are kind of like its the end of the world type deal but tbh if you are willing to play some games made in like last 5-6 years theres like a 100.

Thanks again for the responses. I had initially hoped that gaming in 3D on the PC wouldn't be this much trouble but that is just part of the territory I suppose. So far I've had mostly good experiences just booting up games and getting them to run in 3D without much trouble but I see that some games like Far Cry 3 and others will take a bit of effort on my part. Its just hard trying to find solid info and the search options for this forum don't seem to work properly for me but whenever I'm looking for something on the web I'm usually directed here so its nice to see a community of helpful cool people really involved and enthusiastic about 3D gaming. I'll probably be hanging out here moving forward.

Np. Its alot to take in at once, and it may take a bit to get used to but it will eventually take a minute to set up a game. Helixmod seems scary but its mostly drag and drop. Far cry 3 is buy legit [otherwise you need to update to 1.05] then just set to DX9. Then drag and drop pretty much.
I uploaded a video of FC3 on my blog as well. With my aa instructions.

the latest patch blocks stereoscopic 3D option from Nvidia users. I finished the game prior to that patch; 3D was just ok, some light and shadow issues, not much depth.

seriously, every 3D vision gamer should buy this game and play it through -- not only because the 3D effect is excellent, but also because the developer (Crystal Dynamics) actively supports and fixes 3D vision issues, even though it's an AMD gaming evolved title.

http://s3dgamerzone.com/reviews/3d-reviews/ has some high qualitity videos. Ignore anything that says tridef until you get that software though. Even if you can, should probably wait its more complicated. Not sure why he played tridef with tomb raider tbh.
