Guide to getting Optoma HD66 to work with CD1.27 (and possibly higher) drivers.
  1 / 7
An important update. This will give you full support for using the Optoma HD66 and 67 via either VGA or HDMI in 3d mode without turning glasses upside down and without pulling EDID pins. Thanks to Bullripper and Copper shark for this.

1. Install the beta CD 1.27
2. Reboot
3. Install this driver for your optoma. It should display as generic PnP monitor OR if using HDMI as an Optoma projector in device manager(i think). Acer h5360 modified EDID driver
4.Voila! That should be all thats necessary.

If after you install the driver you would like increased depth use this batch file. url="http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t169490.html"]Link

You need to let that batch file run while you are playing your game. So run the batch file, then start the game.

I'm gonna leave the old instructions up just incase nVidia decides to block this method with an updated patch.

Hi all,

Considering I now have perfect support for the Optoma HD66 with CD1.23 using custom drivers i felt I really should post this basic guide to get it all working. This was all done on an windows 7 x64 system with 2xSLI 8800gt's. I haven't tested this under any other conditions so let me know if it works or not.

Firstly install the newest drivers, both gfx driver and stereo driver. I DIDNT't do a fresh install.

Second pull pins from a dvi-to-vga adapter detailed here http://www.overclock.net/ati/47962-way-disable-edid.html. Your optoma should show as generic non-pnp device in device manager and generic CRT mode should be available in the nvidia stereoscopic control panel after you have pulled these pins. If not you did something wrong. At this point 3d wont work properly in many games due to the 120hz refresh rate and games not recognising it, which is why you need the third step.

Third install this monitor driver to the generic non-pnp monitor (which I created using rivatuner by pulling edid info from the hd66) using device manager in the standard "have disk" etc way. You may need to reboot and reinstall the custom driver a couple of times to get it to stick. It took me two goes. If it has installed correctly the monitor will now display as Optoma EW536 in device manager. You need to reboot after each time you attempt to install it. http://www.mediafire.com/?fyj1wnmwmy0

Fourth, go to nvidia control panel and you can select generic crt and enable stereo.

Fifth, enjoy playing all the latest releases in 3d. Oh, and many of previously non working games like Prince of Persia.

Update: This may only work with 64bit versions of windows, or possibly ONLY windows 7 64bit. Still worth trying IMO. May work better if you set a custom resolution FIRST before upgrading to cd1.23

Update 2: You must have the projector plugged into the first VGA or DVI port on your GFX card, not the second or you may get a VGA out of range issue message displayed by the projector.

Update 3: Confirmed working with CD 1.27 but VERY difficult to get 120hz resolution to stick or to display an image. I would suggest only updating if you're desperate. I just did an install over the top of 1.23 and seems to be working ok.

Yes Crash is correct. You need to restart. You shouldn't need to create a custom res, as the 1280x720@120HZ should be available after you reboot.

1024 x 768 and 600 x 800@120hz are the only ones that will work from the vga port. 1280 x 720 @120hz needs hdmi cable.

I was tried connect DVI-HDMI but it doesn't work. I think, maybe it's possible to override EDID of projector and tell a computer that it is different projector. What do you think about this?

Yes, it is possible to write EDID to a device but this can be pretty risky if you do something wrong.

No it doesn't. I've ran my Acer with VGA cable from DVI port with no problems at 720P/120Hz.
