3D Vision hurts my MW2 skills drasticly

I honestly don't see how 3D can be of any advantage in FPS games. In 2D your eyes are set to 1 focus, so it is much more likely you will see every moving pixel on the screen. You also don't suffer any brightness loss w/o glasses. I just don't see 3D being better in any situation for FPS games, except personal joy :)

should start 2 threads, one for mw2 and the other for bc2. I heard that bc2 had a 4 player co-op for the sp game, which would be ideal for 3d vision, it would then suck for the odd guy out playing in 2d having to listen to the other 3 who are rocking 3d lol. In mw2 i dont really care if someone is playing in 2d as long as my entire team was playing 3d-not going to be talking to the other team anyways AND it would be more realistic to try to fill one team then the entire game with all 3d setups

Aside from the extra work you have to do to find enemies (can no longer just stare at the screen itself for movement, you gotta look around within the screen now), 3d adds vsync, which adds mouselag, which removes skill. It really is that simple.

Do the nvidia drivers automaticly add vsync? I got vsync turned off in MW2 and when I turn 3D off will vsync still be on, forced via the drivers?
I am wondering, if I am the only one with that problem. I am very good MW2 player, playing with a clan at high lvl. I have been playing MW2 in 3D for a couple of hours now and while it is a lot of fun in 3D, I don't come close to my usual performance.

Overall even with higher gamma the game is too dark, I dont even see enemies that I used to spot over half a map now. My eyes need to constantly refocus, which makes my reactions slower. Also I seem to pay less attention to the radar with drone active, because I would have to refocus again on that layer.

To me it seems, 3D adds a lot of immersion to a game but since it is affecting performance that much in competetive multiplayer games, I am wondering if this is a single player only technology. It would be sad to go back to 2D just so I can compete again.
It is all subjective really although I am totally with you. I am a competative CSSource player. I won't even attempt to play in 3D. One, you are right you are slower because you are having to refocus. Granted this gets better over time as you get good and focusing in and out like that, but i can't imagine it can be as fast as not having to focus. Two, with 3D on the computer has VSync enabled regardless of what you have in the game or nvidia control panel. This creates noticable input lag; no way around it that I know of and I have inquired.

Now, I know people who play a lot of TF2 and, in particular these people play demo man, they say they can't play half as good in 2D as 3D anymore. I snipe so the input lag kills it for me.

Overall it is up to preference, but it seems like you think and feel the way I do when in 3D and if so it is mainly a single player technology.

Well its interesting really. As I have found if you have stereoscopic 3d disabled in the control panel vsync is totally off. With 3D on and active you effective feel vsync at 60hz ... if you press the emitter vsync seems to stay on but it is at 120hz and thus the is much less input lag. It is almost unnoticable, but again if you are anything like me, it is still too noticable. Long story short I completely disable 3d via the control panel with I am playing CSS.

I do, however play a lot of single player games and non shooters multiplayer aswell, so the 3D was still a good investment in my eyes.

Very good input MistaP. I found out about the disabling 3D completely as well. It also changes the colors for games a bit. With 3D enabled it makes games brighter automaticly.

The decision wether to keep 3D Vision set (including display) is very hard for me. Normally I play two types of games, MMORPG or FPS. If the 3D works then it adds quite some depth to the MMO genre, sadly in Age of Conan it doesnt work too well. FPS + 3D + Multiplayer = no go for me. There is absolutely no way I will ever reach the same level of skill in 3D there. So all in all that sounds quite negative .... but then I playled Avatar 3D singleplayer (normally I don't even bother with single player games) and I must admit that was the best game experience I had in a long long time. Graphics+3D were the most impressive thing I have seen to date and I assume there are more games like this and the future will bring even more.

I got a Mac Pro with a beautiful 24" LED Cinema Display (IPS Panel), it looks stunning on my desk but of course it only has 60hz which is not great for FPS games and also no 3D option obviously. Now I have to ask myself, is 3D + 120hz for FPS worth replacing that 800$ screen for this cheapo samsung piece of plastic.

Opinions wanted :)

Again, as a competative css player, 120hz in 2D for playing hard is priceless. You see fast moving things much more clearly so you can interpret them quicker.

I honestly used CRTs up until about one year ago and I bought an Acer G24 ... considered a gaming monitor, good colors and brightness but only 60hz ... and I could tell it was lacking as I had my CRTs pushed to run 100hz ...

I'll put it this way, I knew the advantages of 120hz for comp gaming before I bought my monitor and 3d kit. I bought this monitor for 120hz refresh NOT 3d ... I had the extra cash for the 3D kit and got it too as an afterthought. I am happy I did, but I would still have been very happy with the monitor just for 120hz.

I'm just an average 3D multiplayer gamer so I don't notice any mouselag at all, but to me 2D is just horrible. Try reducing the 3D effect this will reduce the refocus problem. Spotting enemies in the bush gotta be easier with 3D since You get a shape to look out for rather than a mix of pixels. Whenever I see a tearing monitor (because V-sync is off) I allways think to myself how can people stand to look at that. I actually think that if You played some years in 3D You would never go back to 2D. I feel like I get so much more info (distances/positions) about the gameworld in 3D which I instantly miss if I switch 3D off. If You get lag or everything is too dark then offcause that kinda ruins things.

I love FPS in Single player mode, especially those built of some sort of military idea. I hate them in multiplayer mode. I hate the running and gunning from the beginning to the end and I hate the jumping around like jack rabbits. I prefer the more timed and calculated approach to fps military like games. I think it's because I am ex military.

I have been playing Tombraider underworld, and to play in 2d is to completely mis judge jumps and distances!!! I thought "Woaaa, how did I manage before!! This has gotten difficult !!"

I've found now that games in 2d just can't touch the mind blowing experiences like 3d pulls off. The ones where you wish someone else could be witnessing the awesomeness too !! /shock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> (ghostbusters my most recent experience, grunty rig required:p)

Yup, me too. If I wasn't so lazy and busy i'd probably do 'air-soft' :P... But the whole twitchness and relentlessness of multiplayer shooters can in ways break the mood, especially if people are 'gayjumping' and children are spamming the mics , (you can just put on some angsty music and join the fray!) ...but yea.. So after a couple of days I have decided to return the Display+3d Vision. It is a great technology but right now I am not playing any games that benefit from the 3D. I play MW2 and Age of Conan, the first I can't use 3d because of skill issues the last because it just does not work right in 3d. I am not a single player fan even though avatar 3d was absolutely amazing, I am not interested in playing more single player games just for the 3d. I usually stick to games half a year at least.

When things change I might be back on board :)

Well earlier you expressed the sentiment of being a competative MW2 player ... 3D Vision won't help you play better, as we all know. However, a 3D Ready monitor is worth the cost just for the 120hz refresh rate alone. I wouldn't recommend returning the display.

Like I said, I bought a 3D ready monitor and really never planned on getting the glasses and emitter. I bought it because you can see fast moving objects more clearly and thus interpret what they are faster in turn giving you a fraction of a second faster reaction. And, yes, my play in CSS improved with the jump from 60hz to 120hz. Very noticably improved. 120hz lcd is as close at the moment as you can get to a CRT for competative gaming purposes.

3dvision is enjoyable.
When you play cw you are not there to enjoy yourself, you are there to kill whathever moves.
I personally remove also many graphic details in order to achieve a clearer sight
