Hey there !
I'm kinda interested in the Nvidia 3D vision 2 and I might buy it for Christmas :)
So here is my question :
Is it worth it for me to buy a 3D vision 2 kit without upgrading my PC components ?
Monitor : Acer Predator XB270Hbmjdprz (27" - 3D ready)
Graphics card : Asus Strix Gtx 970
Processor : Intel i5-4460 4x 3.20 GHz
Main memory : Crucial Ballistix Sport Dimm Kit 8GB
Games : Borderlands 2, Portal 2, GTA V, The Witcher 2
Ssd available if needed.
Thanks in advance
Jj
I play with less than you and it's perfect so I guess it should work for you... some of the games listed are quite hungry so you may have to lower quality settings a notch but otherwise you'll be fine.

You are in the 3D Vision subforum, of course we are going to recommend it! :p
You won't regret it (if you learn to properly configure 3D and use the community fixes).
Beware though, if you do and liberally use the 3d fixes one eyed gaming will be forever ruined for you.
Sometimes I regret it because now I KNOW. I cannot bare to play games I really want without 3d support these days.
On the other hand, It means I'm not wasting huge amount of money on games on release anymore, I'll eventually get them if there is a 3d fix. But also I tend to end up buying games just by virtue the 3D is supported or at least works, so I guess it balances it out.

Well... I think 3D is the coolest thing I've seen, and makes gaming 10x more fun for me. Not saying it will be for everyone, but I also am just not going to play without 3D nowadays. I'd more likely give up gaming altogether.
You can see a list of games that have been fixed and will be in good shape here:
http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/10/game-list-automatically-updated.html
The games on your list are awesome in 3D with fixes (although I'm not sure that Borderlands 2 fix is still working correctly.)
There is one caveat I always caution people who are buying in today- be sure it's because you want to play what is presently available. The future of 3D is really murky, we have only limited support from NVidia, and game devs never give it a second thought. So, anything future related is more about we can do in this community, and we expect nothing from the corporations.
NVidia has been giving us the bare minimum support we need, like bug fixes in the drivers, so they are putting in some amount of effort, but I want to be make sure that your expectations are that it is worth doing today, and today only, not necessarily for things that may or may not happen in the future.
We have no guarantee of being able to fix future games, although we pretty much always try. If you like what's available now though, I can pretty much guarantee you'll have a blast.

And almost for every major game there is awesome community fixes witch is very simply to install - just copy paste.
So if you will give it a try you won't go back to 2d :)

Is that avoidable ?
Because when it's possible to simply copypaste the fixes by helix, it should also be possible to undo that.
So did you mean that once you installed the helixmod for a game you won't be able to play that game in 'normal' 2D anymore ?

No, he didn't mean that in technical terms.
What he meant was that, going back to 2D after experiencing the wonderful world of real 3D, is like when/if somebody would pull one of your eyes out of your face and you would be left to see the world like cyclops do, a flat and uninteresting world.

I still gush over my kit after 6 years of ownership!
Don't forget to read Tsaebeht's guide at the top of the forum. Convergence settings are as essential as depth you need to unlock them in the control panel.
Also crank depth to 100% from the get go. :)

Yeah, what the above people said.
1) It's awesome (but I'll add, perhaps an acquired taste. Took me a little while to really get into it.)
2) It ruins you for non-stereoscopic gaming. I never play anything that doesn't have a 3D fix of some kind.
3) The future is very uncertain. Fortunately there are already a heap of games that look great.

And what about my OS ? (Win 10)
I've seen some posts in this forum that recommend Windows 7. On the other hand there are some guys saying that - with all the updates/fixes - win10 should now be supporting 3D vision as well as win7.
So if I'm not willing to downgrade to win7, is it still worth it to buy the kit and use it with win10 ?
(I tried to read through the win10 thread in this forum, but there is no conclusion whether it's a problem or not)
Thanks for your help, guys !

I asked the very same question, but I was thinking about 'upgrading' from W7 to W10.
I think the general consensus is that W10 is now fine, with the brand new NVidia drivers.
I tried W10. I tested GTA5 and Elite Dangerous. GTA5 has been a very fussy game for some folk here, and that was fine for me in W10. :)
I would have stayed with W10 but FRAPs told me my FPS in GTA5 was hovering around the 33-35+ range in the city where, it is normally a teeny tiny bit higher (2 or 3 frames at best). Elite felt no different at all.
If I didn't have the option I would have happily stayed W10. But I like 7 (I bought it and all), [s]and I found out 7 is now compatible with dx12.[/s] :)

Interesting! Did I miss anything regarding this? I know MS initially said it will be WIN 10 "exclusive" ;))
