Can someone please post a step-by-step guide on how to get Amnesia: The Dark Descent working, the instructions are very confusing.
I installed the .exe wrapper from Helifax's page. First I selected the steam\steamapps\common folder but that was apparently wrong, then I installed it again to steam\steamapps\common\Amnesia The Dark Ascent, but now the game won't even start. First I got msvcp120.dll missing, so I installed the VS2013 redistributible for my system (Win7 x64). That didn't help so I downloaded the dll file manually and moved it to C://Windows//SysWOW64. Now I get the following error: "The application was unable to start correctly( 0xc000007b). Click OK to close application". I was gonna try uninstalling the wrapper, but remove program in control panel gives the following error: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". Then I tried re-installing the game and the wrapper, but that didn't do anything. Now I can't even play it in 2D, some help here?
What version are you running? Steam? It only works on Steam version. Other versions will crash the game. (probably what you see). Technically the wrapper installer should say and automatically start the install of VS2012 redistributables. I am unsure why it didn't work for you during the installation sequence.
Still having no luck with Amnesia, I tried it with an actual mouse(wireless) instead of using JoyToKey to emulate M&K and it's a bit better but still chugging frames and unplayable ... I've even disabled everything and set all the settings to low, doesn't seem to help. I'm using a single GTX 670(pretty sure I remember someone saying they were fine on a single 500 series), I don't think I have ShadowPlay installed ... I still haven't installed 'GeForce Experience', what can I say I'm a rebel. :)
I tried the Ctrl+T/Alt+Tab suggestion for 500 series users and the 'power management mode - prefer max performance' but neither seemed to help either. One odd thing is when 3D is turned off(still 'chugs' when looking around) I'm getting a SBS(2D) image, kind of like Oculus Rift games/demos usually look ... might be by design but thought I'd mention it. Anyway like I said before it's only on the turning/mouselook, movement(WASD) is perfectly fine/playable.
When I run Amnesia, the fix's splash screen pops up(it's narrow in the middle of the screen but stretched from top to bottom ... doesn't look like it was intended to look this way and the OK button is almost completely buried under the taskbar) and I click OK, The Amnesia launcher pops up and I click Launch Game, and then the fix's splash screen pops up again and I click OK again and the game starts.
I have no idea what is happening there. I just made a quick test on my laptop running a GT555m at 1366x768 resolution and I have no problems with the mouse movement. The only thing I noticed and I know of is in the main screen when you want to type the profile name (it doesn't pick all the keypresses every-time). I know why that happens, but I would rather spend time on something else then fixing the one time thing that you use.
Aye, I when I created the splash screen I haven't thought about the 720 res :( My bad. I will fix that so it can fit in a 720p screen res:)
By any chance did you tried Amnesia A machine for Pigs? (is using the same method basically since is the same engine).

Thanks helifax for you efforts and input. It is in fact a fresh install of the Steam version. I will tomorrow restore my system and re-install everything along the new wrapper installation package and I will report back how it goes. Would love to be able to play Amnesia in 3D as I never played it in 2D as I was hoping for a 3D fix and now it is actually possible.

Hey!
First of all the game is not launcher.exe is Amnesia.exe. Can you be more specific about "but nothing happens" ?
Does the game start?
Does 3D Vision start?
If not do you see 2 images side-by-side?
Give Details :)

The wrapper window appears (the one with the 4 step instructions), I hit OK. The launcher.exe file starts, but the normal launcher window (the one where you choose resolution, settings etc.) doesn't appear. Game doesn't start nor does 3D vision turn on.
I've tried running the amnesia.exe file directly, but same happens. Process starts put nothing happens on screen. If I remove the opengl32.dll file the game starts normally in 2D.

I have no idea what is happening there. So far you are the only one saying this.
Just out of curiosity... are you running by any chance Windows 8 /8.1?
If so... there you have your answer.

I even reinstalled with the latest fix. I don't know if it was just my mind playing tricks on me or what but when I started to play it 'seemed' like it was really smooth for a second or two then it was back to stuttering all over the place. I don't remember reading it anywhere but do I need the latest drivers? Or a specific set of drivers? I'm still running the first beta 'fake3D' drivers.
Actually, I'm running an oddball resolution, 1804x1014p60 to compensate for overscan on my 65" DLP, and because NVIDIA mucked up the last few sets of drivers on me(removed 'Generic 3D DLP') I can't run through my receiver anymore for 5.1, so I have to have two DVI to HDMI cables hooked up, one to the TV the other to the RCVR and extend the desktop over the 'two' to get the audio to go to the RCVR ... for the majority of everything I've tried this is the only way it works, except for the occasional game that will complain there's no audio device if I disable the audio to the TV ... that said I've tried Amnesia with all of this 'disabled' and running a 'normal' setup with 'normal' resolutions and it still didn't help.
I couldn't try the Machine For Pigs fix, as I don't own that one yet. Nor do I own Broken Age ... it's not a huge deal I haven't really had any time to put into a game lately, although that may change really quick if you release a Riddick fix any time soon! :) ... maybe I'll try out 'pre-Alpha build' on some things see if it happens there and check if anything running in the background might be causing problems, the only thing I can think of is my AutoHotKey 'Master Script'(handles things like starting up SteamBPM and JoyToKey from my controller)

Hey Helifax
I have just tried your fix with amnesia- dark descent (steam version), but I have came across a problem. It doesn't seem like anyone else has this problem, so it must be a problem with on my end. The message I'm getting is:- Launcher.exe - application error
The application was unable to start correctly [0xc0000142].
Do you have any idea how I could solve this problem and what's causing it?
Many thanks

Are you running the game as Administrator? That error usually states that you don't have admin rights.
Try to disable UAC (if enabled) or run the game as ADMIN (right-click -> Run as Administrator dirrectly on Amnesia.exe from steam install folder)

That is weird... I tested it on 2 machines running win 7 64 (both Home and Ultimate).
Is the game crash silently or is still running in the background? (can you still see it in Task Manager)?
I tried to replicate this issue but so far it looks to be an isolated case and I have no idea what is happening there...

It's a 4 month old Windows 7 x64 install with all updates up-to-date.

I can share this: The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena
Fixes:
- Tons of shaders lost count after 100 (some either didn't need stereo correction or a different stereo injections)
- Disabled some minor shadows on close-up (since no matter what they were applied wrong)
- Fixed SSAO - so it works on any convergence + depth setting
- Fixed alot of other minor stuff (like reflections, smoke etc)
- Issues:
- The FOG and some smoke creates Halos. I tried to correct this however I wasn't able to without disabling that shader which basically removes everything that is related to particles)
- Some walls created halos in distance. However once you get closer to that point it corrects itself (looks like wrong separation there) - No idea why. Under investigation. (As Seen here)
- The purple bars on left and right CANNOT BE CORRECTED. However using CTRL + F12 (Cycle Frustrum) you can correct this ingame. However the capture screen function ignored this section in the above screenshots.
Hope you enjoy it:)

What version are you running? Steam? It only works on Steam version. Other versions will crash the game. (probably what you see). Technically the wrapper installer should say and automatically start the install of VS2012 redistributables. I am unsure why it didn't work for you during the installation sequence.

Fixed bugs:
- You can now uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs
- Correct (VS2013 not VS2012) prerequisites embedded in the installer
- Added the full path of the folder that you are supposed to use to install the wrapper:)

Thanks for the tip!
Re-installed everything and still the launcher.exe process starts but nothing happens. Newest graphics drivers installed (gtx680), Windows 7 x64. Further suggestions?
Hey!
First of all the game is not launcher.exe is Amnesia.exe. Can you be more specific about "but nothing happens" ?
Does the game start?
Does 3D Vision start?
If not do you see 2 images side-by-side?
Give Details :)

[MonitorSizeOverride][Global/Base Profile Tweaks][Depth=IPD]
I have just tried your fix with amnesia- dark descent (steam version), but I have came across a problem. It doesn't seem like anyone else has this problem, so it must be a problem with on my end. The message I'm getting is:- Launcher.exe - application error
The application was unable to start correctly [0xc0000142].
Do you have any idea how I could solve this problem and what's causing it?
Many thanks
It's a 4 month old Windows 7 x64 install with all updates up-to-date.
Are you running the game as Administrator? That error usually states that you don't have admin rights.
Try to disable UAC (if enabled) or run the game as ADMIN (right-click -> Run as Administrator dirrectly on Amnesia.exe from steam install folder)
