Sonic Generations
  2 / 4
What a disappointment. As this game was made with 3D in mind, I thought it would be great. But it's terrible with 3D Vision. The default convergence keeps the stage and Sonic too far into the screen, destroying the reason to play in 3D, and raising the convergence creates some annoying problems that makes the game unplayable.

When you start a stage, there's some 2D graphics showing the name of the stage and whatnot. Then they slide to the side of the screen after a few seconds. But apparently, they don't go away, they stay there. So by raising the convergence they come back to the screen, getting in front of everything.

Here's hoping for a patch or a profile...

Oh, and that 3D in-game option was made for 3D TVs, not for 3D Vision, so it's useless for us.

Surprising since a few people already have mentioned that it looks great in 3d

I posted screenshots here.

There are some issues in the game related to crosshairs, smoke, and shadows. We have provided the feedback to the developer so hopefully they will fix it.

Well, in this topic, only CDjay said he liked Generations with 3D Vision. If you look at andrewf screenshots, you'll see that I meant on my other post - the stage and Sonic are too into the screen. It becomes even more apparent if you try to raise the depth, because by doing so they get even further into the screen. It "works", but to be great they should be near screen level. But if you try to change the convergence to bring them to front, you get the problems I said earlier.

The way it's now, it works if you keep a low depth and the default convergence. But it's really far from amazing, and amazing is what playing in 3D should be.

If they kept the 2D elements, like the stage name, time counter, ring counter and whatnot always at screen level, it would have been enough, since we could change the convergence and they would stay at the same place. But for some strange reason, they also have some kind of depth, so by messing with the convergence, they also move and just get in the way.

EDIT: Actually, the modern Sonic parts are not bad in 3D. When the camera moves behind Sonic, everything gets near the screen. Of course, there are some shadow problems and things like that, but it's way more impressive than classic Sonic stages.

I dont have the pc version yet but I gave the 360 version a try in 3d. Using a benq mw512 and viewsonic 3d adapter for hdmi1.4. Looks surprisingly good for console 3d. It even lets you adjust depth which is not something I see on console 3d games.

So if you have an HDMI 1.4 capable display, try to bypass 3d Vision. It may work much better is my guess...

The HDMI 1.4 side / side option only fixes the targeting crosshairs and the action buttons (when it prompts you to press X etc). There are still problems with shadows and dust rendering incorrectly.

Oh please...Just cause 3d is not working flawlessly on pc doesn't mean the game is a "poor port". Be happy PC even got this game. Its usually not the case with these types of games

no, he is right unfortunately. The game is stuttering all the time with 3D Vision, it's just unplayable, even if you change to VERY low resolution. If you close 3D effects (Ctrl+T), it's exactly the same. Very bad port. Very nice visuals but poorly optimized.

I don't experience any stuttering. What are your settings and GPUs?

No stuttering here as well. 2D or 3D. Targeting, shadows and some text is not displaying correctly in 3D using 3D vision but oh well...

The game runs really well on the PC in 2D. I beat the Xbox360 version and am replaying it on PC now and the game in 2D looks 10X better on the PC compared to consoles. So no one can't complain that it is a poor console port.

1080p, better colors and saturation and 60 frames per second VS sub 720p, washed out colors and 30 fps or less

Can anyone with 3 monitors check if this works in Nvidia surround?

i finished the game in 3d on my passive lg,in 1080p by hdmi.
when you activate the 3d in game it switch the game to side by side to bypass nvidia limitation in resolution, you get the red message from 3dtvplay but it works (if your monitor suport side by side)
realy clever solution and a big **** you to nvidia!

After playing this game in 3D I had to pop in here and say how impressed I was. After the BF3, COD, and Skyrim debacle, Sonic looks awesome in 3D.
This is on 3D Vision with Acer 27". No stuttering, two GTX 470 in SLI. Some problems with dust but overall amazing with default convergence. We need to keep bombarding developers for 3D support. I'm not surprised about COD, but I'm impatient for the BF3 fix. The developers just gravitate towards the highest dollar and unfortunately 3D vision is still the minority.

I really don't get how this game really is in 3d. Screenshots look good to me, but there're those who say it's terrible while others love it. btw according to Andrew Skyrim is excellent in 3d
