What is point of 3d crosshair when regular crosshair is still showing? MW2, shooters, plz help!
1 / 3
So i am lOVING 3d vision. But, in cod modern warfare 2 when I set up the 3d cross hair, which works fine, the regular one from the game is still on the screen. Obviously the ideal situation is just to have the 3d crosshair on and not the regular one. I don't see an option to turn off the regular crosshair in the game.
1-IS there an option in game to turn the regular non 3d crosshair off?
2-Are you guys just "dealing with it" in most shooters and leaving the regular crosshair on and ALSO using the 3d crosshair?? That sure makes for a mess on the eyes when aiming.

Yeah it's kind of something you just have to cope with. It sucks choosing between getting used to aiming between two sights or having extra useless sights on top of the 3D crosshair, but the list of games that do it proper and incorporate the 3D crosshair as their own is sadly pretty short.
Then there are games where the in-game 3D crosshair works fine but it slows the game down to the point of being near-unplayable, like TF2 and some other Source engine-based games. That one really hurts because TF2 is my favorite game and it would be almost perfect in 3D if it didn't have that problem. IMO not having a proper incorporated 3D crosshair ruins the experience and is usually the deciding factor in playing a game mostly in 2D like I do usually with TF2 :(
It all boils down to the devs, which in turn falls onto Nvidia's task of keeping close relations with game devs and convincing them to code their crosshair a certain way. If a game doesn't already have support for an incorporated 3D crosshair, there's not much Nvidia can do but let us customers use their (kind of crappy) 3D crosshair as a replacement, or try and convince the dev to release a patch adding support. The only game I've seen go back and patch something to make the 3D crosshair work properly is WoW.

I played TF2 earlier and the crosshair was great in 3D, easily better than most FPS games I've played >_>
As a side note to this, is it possible to get a 3D mouse cursor in games like Torchlight? It seems like something that wouldn't be hard to implement >_>

Just out of curiosity, what are your rig's specs? With a Q6600 and a GTX 280, turning the 3D crosshair on in TF2 lowers the framerate to below 20 in many scenes, whereas without the 3D crosshair the framerate is a constant 60 at all times. The problem is pretty well-known; I'm going to take a guess and say you have a computer with enough power to strongarm your way through the slowdown, however even with the most recent 3D Vision drivers and the most updated TF2, the problem persists on many systems which should otherwise take care of TF2 in 3D without breaking a sweat. It's probably something on Valve's end since I'm sure Nvidia would have fixed an issue like that for such a popular game by now.

I've personally gotten used to playing without a crosshair in games as i disable them wherever possible. You get a feeling for where you are aiming with experience.

TF2 runs great for me with the 3d cursor (great game also). For MW2, the only thing I can suggest is turn off the nVidia cursor and use the sights on the guns.

Would everyone who claims TF2 works fine with the laser sight mind posting your PC specs? I'd like to get an idea of the power required to get through the TF2 laser sight slowdown for when I upgrade my aging Q6600 setup.

I'm running a fairly hefty system (i7 975, 12GB, GTX 260) and with the 3D crosshair on, TF2 drops into the lower 20s fairly often. With it off, it stays locked at 60fps. Tried with lower resolution, less (or no) AA, details turned down, etc. No change.

if you just wanna turn off the crosshairs alltogether, in 90% of the games that are made you can edit the .ini or .cfg to remove the crosshair, google is your friend, I found 3-4 supposed ways to remove the crosshair in mw2 froma simple search and don't chose the flashiest 3d crosshair you can find, choose a simple one like the first one lol

You can fix the 3d crosshair in Modern Warfare 2 by renaming the exe to make the drivers think you are running the first Modern Warfare. It is pretty good in 3d with the reticle fix.

Go into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players (or wherever your CoD MW2 is installed) and open config_mp.cfg in notepad
Go Ctrl+F and find "ui_drawCrosshair". There will be a 1 in quotes after this...
"ui_drawCrosshair "1""
Change the 1 to a 0 and the crosshair will not be displayed in game. You can mess around with other things in this file too, like also turning off turret crosshairs, making the game run in a window rather than full screen, and all sorts of options...
It works perfectly, but in case u mess something up, i would back it up 1st...
Note:Make Sure you are not in the game when u change this, or it will not work. Also, if you want it to work in just single player mode, you need to change the "config.cfg" file as well, the _mp one is just for multiplayer...
