Project Cars 3D Vision
  27 / 30
Hi guys. Can you help me? Which files and fixes do I do for Project Cars as of Project Cars Patch 8.0 (I think) January 27, 2016? Do I just go to the helixmod website and follow instructions or are there other steps/files as-well? I also see something about alpha fix on the OP of this thread and I see some changes/issues that Torque mentioned a few days ago. I would like the most up to date 3D Vision settings for PCars. Thanks

Hi mike, just tested PCars and shadows are broken. With shadows off fix works still perfect. Could you have a look? That would be great! Greetings Ron

Project Cars was on sale for $17, so I picked it up yesterday. Couple of interesting things to note. It autolaunches Oculus driver for 1.3 and goes directly into VR on Rift, even though this is the Steam version. Vive is not presently supported but is forthcoming soon they say. Of note- they turned off shadows in VR. So this is how they have been cheating it under VR. There have been a bunch of changes to support shadows, and they say those are coming as well. Those changes are probably why our fix broke. The version on Oculus Home is $50 but includes the $50 of DLC, and also all of their VR fixes for Rift. So if you buy it Home style, you get the proper VR experience, but not if you get it from Steam. Leaderboards and online play are not shared between Oculus and Valve, so you get the tiny number of Rift players (today). All in all, VR has not been helping 3D Vision. Outside of shadows it runs pretty well, looks good in VR. And ron reports works in 3D with shadows off. If I get a chance I'll try to update shadows, but please don't hold your breath.

Would be really wonderful if somehow correct the shadow would be possible. It would be a real shame to the beautiful game. I hope it is not too much effort. Thx for the great fixes and best regards

This game now supports the HTC vive headset. Will the 3D fixes work in the VR version too? I noticed shadows were turned off on the VR version too. His game is so good. I prefer dirt but this is amazing.

Fixing shadows would be great. Also rain looks weired when driving behind other cars. Game is looking still great. Buddie tested with HTC Vive, but resolution is still to low for important details on the horizon. So he still uses his 3D Vision monitor instead of Vive. He said that Vive is disappointing for him, like DK2 was a disappointment for me 2 years ago.

I found the post by your friend interesting, I would have thought that the Vive would be well suited for racing. I never thought about distant visual clues playing into the equation. I suspect that draw distance is reduced to improve performance for VR? Here's part of the post made by glacios, using Google translate PCars unfortunately - like any racing game - very dependent on the distance vision. It shows above all only when it has not. The resolution of Vive is so low that one can hardly look further than 200-300 m. Ergo, I have so missed some curves, because I could not realize that the route turns or where they turns. There is also the potential benefit, namely that I can see and estimate distances, lowering or curves up where due to lack of resolution is not given the appropriate foresight. I wanted to replay to Pcars and now with the latest patch all shadows are broken (vehicle and track). It would be perfect if a fix is released. ronrebell -> I'm surprised of the opinion of Buddie with the Vive and Project Cars. I thought that with a better ressolution than the DK2, the SDE would be less embarassing. I think, it depends of the game. I tested the vive in Paris and I forgot quickly the SDE. I hope that AAA games for VR will be promptly announced. GibsonRed-> you can switch on shadows in Pcars, they are now fully fixed in VR.

Yeah, I'm shocked at the comments too. You are in the car and can look around. You can tell when the car slides a lot more easily and checking your blind spot is mega before pulling out. It really impressed me. Oh well each to their own.

The only problem is what seems to be draw distance. He states that he can't see far enough ahead to receive visual clues of an impending turn. My thoughts are that distant objects are fogged to improve performance, but I can't say because I do not have a Vive nor the game.

The only problem is the low resolution. In racing games its important to see whats happening at the horizon. When youre racing with 250 km/h, a curve at the horizon is coming very quickly. If you dont really see this curve sharp enough, its unimpossible to hit the right breaking point. So little, but fast coming details on horizon like a curve, have to be displayed with enough pixels to avoid unsharpness. And thats the immersionbreaker at the moment. I hope you can follow my explainations. Me by myself tested DK2 with an flight combat game, which is also a fast game. When flying with high speed opponents in far distance are very little. So these little objects in far distance are displayed with only a few pixels. Thats why the pixels per inch are to less. So this object is total unsharp and you cant decide if youre seeing a flower or an other flying object at the horizon for example. That was completely unplayable. Me and 3 other friends tested at my homebase and that was a total mess So we sold DK2 and were looking forward to 4K kits. With actual VR Kits we are far away from 4K VR and thats the reason why me an friends of mine cant recommend VR at the moment. Immersion is great and was much better then my VG278H 3D Surround setup, but low resolution breaks that completely. So were gonna stay at our 3D Vision monis until 4K VR will arrive consumer market.

I fully see what you mean with the resolution. At the moment games like Project Cars are actually not made for VR. I thought it would be a bit better. But it is not. A bit disappointing. However, other games that are made for VR, planned for VR are just amazing.
