Cant switch games into stereo view (71.89/6800GT) Seems like the hotkey doesnt work on DX.
Hi All

I got the E-dimensional glasses a few days ago. For some reason all my ID Software games (Doom3, Quake3, Elite Force etc) work absolutely fine in 3D (Doom3 has to be seen to be believed...).

However, apart from Neverwinter Nights (which has other problems) no other games will switch into 3D view, even though i have the stereo drivers enabled or set to enabled with hotkey in Nvidia control panel. Games i tried and failed are:
Half-Life 2
Ghost Recon
Vampire the Masquerade
Far Cry (demo)
TOCA Racing Driver 2

Any ideas ? It did occur to me that ID always seems to use OpenGL and the other games are all DirectX. Anyone else have the same problem ?

Oh.. and I've tried different hotkey combinations, and disabled the hotkeys from the games controls etc. still no joy.

My rig:
Windows 2000 Pro
Galaxy 6800GT
P4 - 2.2Ghz
512 RAM
Promise IDE RAID

cheers
Steve

I've seen a few of these posts around on other forums. I believe it may be a problem with windows 2000 although I don't speak from personal experience. Don't take my word as gospel, but you might want to start looking there for the cause.

Try searching the forums on stereovision.net

Well ferk me.. installed XP Pro and now everything works fine. Same hardware, same games, same drivers.

Guess nvidia doesnt bother supporting Windows 2000 any more (despite what they might claim).

Glad to help.

It's quite possible that it's a Microsoft problem rather than an nVidia one. I believe there has not always been good direct X supoprt for win2k, and it may be an implementation problem on Microsoft's part rather than nVidia's.
Glad to help.

I have the edimensional glasses that I bought over a year ago. I had some problems with win2K and have been using on an XP machine. A couple of months ago I asked their support and they said they had a recent fix for win2K and now they work great on both operating systems. So I guess if you have the edimensional glasses you can get it working. Otherwise I'm sure nvidia will fix this in the future.

Cheers, RHG.

If it's a fix implemented by eDimensional, they can only have done one or both of two things:-

1. Made new versions of their glasses (in which case you'd need these new ones)

2. Updated their drivers (which almost nobody with an nVidia card uses because they're rubbish).

Sorry if my post seems a little negative but I tells it as I sees it.

I think it is the registry fix that edimensional put out. I also have problems running non-openGL games (ie Direct 3D) on Win 2k, namely the 3D doesn't work at all.

I have tried the registry fix, but to no avail. So I have finally bitten the bullet and switched to Win XP (yuk - designed for a kindergarten)

am I the only one who is a complete whore for these damn 3D glasses?? I dropped my 'boycott' of WinXP, switched to nVidia in spite of my long-standing loyalty to ATi, sheesh I would give oral pleasure to Nathan at edimensional if I thought it'd improve my 3D performance!!! It _is_ worth it after all....

PS my first post! hello all 3D phreaks out there!
