3D Vision surround, different monitors. Will this work?
Here's the deal. I just went picked up the Asus PG278QR today (returned a Dell S2716DG for it, since I found the ghosting and pixel inversion unsatisfactory and read here the Asus isn't as bad), which is an upgrade from my BenQ XL2420TX. I've already decided I'm not going to sell my old monitor (won't get what it's worth, and good to have as a backup), but earlier today I went on my local classifieds and found someone selling a BenQ XL2420T (same monitor, basically, but without the emitter built in) for $130 CAD (pretty much $100 USD) which I think is a steal! So here I am wondering if I were to go to pick up that other BenQ, would I be able to get all 3 to play nice in 3D surround? I'm pretty sure the requirements call for having 3 identical monitors, but we're a resourceful bunch so I'm thinking there could be a workaround. Believe it or not, I actually did do a google search earlier to find out, and pretty much all the results were for regular Nvidia Surround, not 3D Surround, and what I found is that it IS possible to hack it all to get working, but we all know 3D Vision adds a whole 'nother level of complexity to things, so just wondering if anyone here has any experience with mixing and matching various monitors together for 3D surround? I know Necropants has done so with a PG278QR and 2 PG278Q's, but those are similar enough that I don't know if that's a good test case or not. Really, I could just go get that monitor and find out (and even try my luck at things where others may have failed), but it is a bit out of the way, so I'll definitely appreciate any feedback I can get prior.

Probably not man. I think they need to be the same at least the same family of monitor. But you might strike it lucky if its the same resolution and refresh rate maybe? For what it's worth as you say I use that monitor as my primary driver and the two previous model versions and it works fine. But they are practically the same monitor I guess. Due to performance I pretty much had written off 3d surround at 1440p but it ended up working anyway.Looking at the rumors of the new cards on the horizon looks like It's gonna be a no go for me this generation of cards too. For science!
But you might strike it lucky if its the same resolution and refresh rate maybe?
Yeah, that's what I read works for regular surround, is by setting all the monitors to the same resolution. Someone said he used 2 1080P monitors and one older 4x3, and by forcing it to 1080P it worked in surround. It still operated at it's native resolution, but was able to be recognized as a 1080P monitor. It's definitely a stretch, but considering it's a minimal additional expense for me to get the additional monitor I think it's worth it to try.
