Must Disable 3D Vision To Use Windows Mixed Reality
  1 / 4
I recently bought a Samsung Odyssey Windows Mixed Reality headset. It only works if I disable 3D Vision in the Nvidia Control Panel. Very frustrating. Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, figured out how to resolve it? Thanks!

Same here with Vive. You'll get used it no big deal.
Same here with Vive. You'll get used it no big deal.
Was never an issue with my Oculus Rift. If I forget to disable 3D Vision, my Nvidia driver gets disabled when starting Windows Mixed Reality and requires a reboot to get it started again. I'll get used to it, but this shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully a future driver update or WMR update will resolve this.

On a related note, I find that there is a significant performance hit if 3D vision is enabled while running Oculus Rift games. Must have it disabled for optimum VR performance!

Probably this is not working with MixedReality headsets just yet. I'd expect them to extend this to this headset as well. http://wiki.bo3b.net/index.php?title=Driver_Profile_Settings#VR_Direct_Settings For Rift/Vive, the default profile setting is that 3D Vision is automatically disabled whenever the VR runtime is launched. There is a flag to allow both at once, but otherwise they are mutually exclusive now (driver 378 and up). The best that can be achieved is Oculus Rift at a 14% GPU hit (GTX 980). SteamVR is about 21%. These are for an empty room, not a complicated environment like both of their homes. So any game that is GPU bound is going to take a pretty big hit when VR is left running in the background. For Rift games on recent drivers, I would expect 3D Vision to be automatically disabled and have no impact.

So... this is still a problem today. (Win10 1803, Driver 390.77) Enabling 3D Vision and WMR will crash the video driver. This doesn't happen with either Vive or Rift. I just reported the bug to both Microsoft and NVidia. Did any of you report this bug? It's been more than 6 months, and it would have been fixed by now. If you are not reporting bugs, you need get off your lazy butt and do so. Nothing will ever improve if you don't contribute.

WMR is bizarre, sort of direct support in the OS, but not very good. I bought a headset just for testing, and skipped the controllers because I figured keyboard would be fine, and that's how it's advertised. Nope. Their keyboard support is pathetic. All in all, I have to agree that I still prefer Vive.

Woa, I haven't run into this problem yet. But then again, I only use 3D Vision Surround on my Win7 dual boot and leave 3D off my Win10 boot (due to broken 3D Vision). WMR is the bomb right now. Very affordable, you can play all games from all 3 stores (while Rift and Vive is limited to 2 stores) and the Samsung Odyssey has higher resolution than original Rift and Vive (less god light effect, less screendoor effect, very comfortable with IPD adjustment since they copy PSVR design lol), doesn't need a large room to set up for the camera tower (it has none), can bring it on the go to your friend's place since the dual cam is built in. @bob: Given all WMR recently released have the controller/headset for the full exp, how did you get the headset only?

For Rift and Vive, there are new driver settings in profiles that automatically disable 3D Vision when a VR runtime is detected. 3D Vision is now disabled by default when running VR, so you shouldn't have to change the setting on either Win7 or Win10. Unless it's been fixed in recent drivers, the driver does not disable 3D Vision by default in WMR. Note that this also means you cannot run any 3Dmigoto fixes with SBS in a WMR headset on something like BigScreen or VirtualDesktop. There is a specific flag to allow 3D Vision to activate at the same time as VR. It seems to be the clear winner in the WMR realm. Long term, I can't see using any of the VR headsets for a TV replacement. Too clunky, too low res by comparison to literally any 3D Vision monitor and not even close to projector experience. I can game for 8 hours on projector, and top out at about 3 hours on VR. Sold standalone: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/the-dell-visor/apd/536-bbbr/gaming-gaming-accessories BTW, one reason I'm interested in WMR as a TV is because I'm writing an app that brings all DX9 games to a virtual TV. Presently successfully running in Rift, performance is good. Currently working on making it easier to setup.

Just got a response from NVidia that they have found this problem, and it will be fixed in upcoming drivers. Keep reporting those bugs. Even if you don't get an immediate response, if they see 5 or 10 bug reports about the same problem, it has a lot more weight than just one report. Everyone needs to pitch in.
