Everybody ready? It's on! Please go to http://wiki.bo3b.net/ You'll find the Table of Contents there, and the first two lessons are live! Lesson 0 - prerequisites Lesson 1 - using Helixmod This is not in perfect shape of course, so if you find glitches or errors please let me know. I was rushing a bit to get this out so you'd have at least part of the weekend to take a look. You have until next Friday to finish the Quizzes, when I'll put up the next lesson. Please enjoy! The videos are suboptimal, it's not clear to me the best way to share 3D videos. YouTube 3D seems to be broken for me again, so I also provide direct download links so you can play them in Stereoscopic Player. Videos are about 20 minutes apiece. Sorry about that, but there is no way to give this level of detail in 5 minutes. If you think a speed-run style video might be useful, let me know. Special note of thanks to andysonofbob for giving me some good insight into how to structure things, and being my guinea pig.

For the file size, I'm not sure what's up with that. What is the file you are uploading? I've done 1M jpg without trouble. I'm sure I can change the config on the server if needed. Looks like default is 100M file, and it says you should be able to ignore the warning anyway.

I think I tested out of class so far but I did 'listen' to the lessons anyway while I'm working. Good stuff! :) I'm not sure when but I think the default key for ShowTextKey(toggle red text) changed from F11 to Pause, just thought I should mention it if anyone's trying it and it's not working for them. Edit: Is Lesson 2 broken or just not up yet? It just goes to an edit lesson page.

Looks good. I think I've done most of this stuff already while experimenting on my own, but I'll try and find time to go through and do the assignments during the week, to make sure I don't have any knowledge gaps. Thanks! :)

It's actually a pipe symbol if you copy paste, but it looks like a slash because of the italic font. I went ahead and changed it follow my convention of stuff that you type will be in Bold text. Let me know if that doesn't seem like it.

You can't rename a .png file to a .jpg file (.pns is just stereo/side-by-side .png), because the formats are totally different. So, when the uploader see the file, it gets some insanely large number for size. You won't be able to view that file in Windows either, it will be 'corrupted.' You probably set your saving type to be pns instead, in the registry. Lossless files here are certainly OK, but in general it just makes the file size jump from 500K to 7M. Not a problem for local stuff, but harder to share. A .jps saved at 90 quality is nearly pixel identical to .pns. A reason you might have switched it over was that the default NVidia save for JPS is set to 50% quality. 50! So every image you take is too soft and lower quality than we want. It's a surprisingly stupid choice on their part because we mostly care about quality or we wouldn't be here, and it make 250K files instead of 500K files. Saving the drive space while breaking quality is a really poor choice. I'd encourage you to go ahead and still upload a file. You can fix it by switching back to JPG at 85 or 90 quality level: http://3dvision-blog.com/5265-making-better-quality-stereo-3d-pns-screenshots-with-3d-vision/ Or the easiest is that in your case, you want to rename the .pns to .png, and it should work fine. Edit: I added text to make it clear that .pns is OK too.

I'm glad to see that we have some good response to the lessons. But, I also see most people are not creating their own Wiki page with end results. I'd like to encourage everybody who is following along to go ahead and make the page and do the last bits of the quiz. It's homework, I know, but if you simply think to yourself "well I understand that" and don't do the homework, then you don't actually know it. The only way to be learn is to go through the steps and demonstrate it. Doing the actual steps helps to avoid confusion later on. It's the difference between theory and practice. :-> If you are reluctant to create a wiki page because of yet another login, please let me know. I can disable that required login, it's just that the wiki people strongly encouraged leaving it in place to avoid spammers.

Thank you for creating these lessons bo3b. :) I've just completed lesson 0 and lesson 1, and uploaded the results to the wiki page. The videos are well crafted, and easy to follow. I'm looking forward to more material, as well as entertaining homework/exercises. ;)
