Max Payne 3 crashing in 3d
  3 / 4
With 690 quad sli 3d surround 301.42 drivers level 1 ran great and looked amazing in 3d but then I had the same screen goes black crashing in level 2 (nightclub) no matter what settings in 3d except to turn off the 3d vision option in the game but leave it on in the system. Works but shadows and aiming dot are messed up. Anyway, popped back in my 590's that I had just upgraded from and it runs the night club level just fine with same 301.42 drivers and everything very high. Not as smooth as the 690's but still 30-50 fps in 3d @6000x1080. Tried the 302.71 drivers but can't get surround to enable in the CPL, it just restarts the PC. Hope the info helps to get it fixed. Great game for 3d when it's working! Seems to be something particular to the 600 series cards and the FX in that night club scene (level 2) from earlier posts other than the general crashing on overclocked 5xx cards.

I also had many crashes in the second level while 3D is enabled with driver version 301.42.
I'm now in level 3 which runs better, but I had also 2 crashes so far in this level too.

The screen turns black while the sound keeps playing, so the game seems still to be running. Normally it can then be terminated via the taskmanger but sometimes a reboot is required.

I'm on Windows 7 32bit, so the new beta driver is no option for me. And since I have a GTX690, also pre 3xx drivers are no option.

The game looks really glorious if 3D is running with all settings (beside MSAA) maxed out and offers smooth 3D framerates on my system.

So again in my standard behavior for new games in the last years: Waiting for a patch to make the 3D playable :-(

I was having random crashes as well. I read online that the graphic memory usage in the option menu is inaccurate (especially with SLI setups). I lowered all my settings to high, SSAO, no MSAA, 8x AF, Tessellation to normal, DX11. I played for 2 hours without a single crash. This is before last nights patch so maybe they fixed a few things. I was crashing randomly in 2D and 3D. It is really annoying having to watch the cutscenes over and over again. Just as a point of reference I have 2 GTX470s, 965BE, 8GB ram, and W7 64. The game is great as a whole, the multiplayer is very basic (as expected). The 3D is good, not mind blowing, sunshafts are weird. Definitely woth playing.

The patch from yesterday did nothing against the crashes in 3D on GTX 6xx cards. Level 3 is also affected, so I stopped playing for now. I would say it is currently unplayable in 3D on those cards.

Unfortunately they are only available vor 64 bit Windows.
So I tried the newest 32 bit driver I could find (from LaptopVideo2Go), which is 302.59. But I got still immediate crashes in level 2 in 3D.
Also tried lowering all settings to high which reduces calculated video memory usage to about 1GB, but still crashing after a short period of 3D playing. So no luck here!

I can also confirm 302.71 drivers are working for level 2 and I managed to 3d surround working with them as well after a clean install & starting with just 1 monitor hooked up(though it took a full 2 minutes for the driver to make the switch from 1 to 3 monitors and I had to manually get the cables to the right monitors as the setup tool didn't work) Anyway nvidia, the solution for 6xx cards is in those and not the 302.59 drivers which I also tried.

I got it here:
302.71 drivers

You'll probably need the modded .inf file to allow you to install it as well. After the files extract copy over the modified nvtd.inf file available from that same page then run setup.

Does this work to win7?

I installed the 302.71 driver. No crashes anymore in 3D with these in Max Payne. But it crashes with Battlefield 3. Installed 301.41 again, no problem in Battlefield 3 anymore. Is there a solution for this?

Then a have to cap the frames in Max Payne 3D to 40fps. My system does have framedrops below 60fps every now and then in 3D and I think a constant 40 fps is still better than to have changes from very smooth 60 fps to 40 fps. For example at the first scene watching out to the balcony. I checked fps in that scene:

120 fps in 2D
40 fps in 3D

Even lowering the graphics to low and the resolution to 720p didn't change anything, so I think this is a typical CPU bottleneck? So, you guys with Ivy bridge or Sandy bridge CPU (overclocked), do you experience the same or is my CPU too weak for this scenes (eventhough heavily overclocked)?

My system:
-i7 920 @4 Ghz
-GTX 680
-6 Gb RAM
-Windows 7, 64bit

As long as it runs in 3D, I have 150-200 fps in 1080p 3D with everything set to max and MSAA disabled, according to eVGA precision X tool.
And that despite the fact that I have set Vysnc to on in the game menu, so it should be max 60 fps. Once the games runs in 3D without crashes, I will look further into this.

GPU GTX 690 at stock speed
CPU i7 2700K at stock speed
Windows 7 32 bit

Btw. I have contacted Rockstar tech support and they basically say we (GTX 6xx users) have to wait for a new official nVidia driver, since the modded 302.71 driver seems to fix the crashes.

Any rumors about a new official Win 7 Beta Driver for MP3?
I am using a GTX 680 and the 301.42 Driver and at the start of level 2 i always get a black screen (1 minute or less, sound keeps playing).
The modded 302.71 driver is no option, because of the BF3 issues.

Waiting for a official statement from nvidia.

PS: The driver installation from 301.42 asks me, if my pc is ready for Max Payne 3... i think nvidia is not ready for Max Payne 3 :D.

302.71 didn't help me in Max Payne. Still get crashes (Asus 670 DCII TOP) in 3D. Everything is fine in 2D. Argh!

Any suggestions on how to underclock the card? I've tried a few tools and (the ASUS tweaker, Precision X) but nothing seems to have an effect (monitors show that the GPU clock heads up to 1137 regardless).

Thanks
