So I was having the worst luck with playing in 3D on Windows 7. I could barely play for 15 minutes only to have the game crash. Every setting I've tried didn't work and I spend hours and hours trying various fixes.
I upgraded to Windows 10 a few days ago and installed the latest drivers 353.62 figured I try the game as is with no settings adjustment and it worked!!! Just played my first 3 hour + session last night with no crashes no graphic bugs and it was AMAZING!
Not sure what did it but don't want to mess with anything now that its working.
Hi. The game works fine for me in 3D (except some strange graphical effects I 'be been told before and bad FPS mode) with windows 8.1 64bits, nvidia 350.12 drivers and standard profile. My questions :
1. Could I upgrade to Windows 10 without any trouble ? Would I keep my savegames ? Could I keep 350.12 drivers ? Could I be able to go on without crashes ?
2. Would it be the same answers with the other games (Far Cry 4, witcher 3, ...)
Thank you so much for your help...
If it's working smoothly for you, I wouldn't touch it. Anything you change is likely to make it worse.
It wouldn't hurt to try the experiment if you have time to spend and don't mind spending it debugging setup issues. Be sure to make an image-backup before you go in case it's a disaster. Then you can at least get back to stable.
I'd strongly discourage moving to Win10 at the moment, you are going to spend some time playing with things that aren't games. If you enjoy that sort of stuff, have fun.
(For example- Witcher3 requires reinstalling the fix, and should work, as long as you go back to older drivers by forcing it to no auto-update to newest driver, which breaks 3D Vision completely. FC4 is DOA on most recent driver as well, so it would die on 'upgrade' as well.)
Why upgrade if things are working well? What's the motivation?

@chrisoutwright: Thanks for reporting the bug.
R* support is beyond useless, you'll never get them to even read your post. But, keep hammering on them that this has nothing whatsoever to do with your machine, as evidenced by the crash on at least mine and Pirates' machines. Emphasize this is clearly a memory leak in 3D only, and ask why they don't care.
Emphasize this is a bug report- it crashes even when only running the benchmark, and you don't need fake/bullshit support. I doubt anything will happen because they totally suck, but it's worth prodding along a little. More voices means more attention.
@ExarchCoercer: Very promising, thanks for letting us know it's working well for you on Win10. Great data point.
If you can, I'd be extremely curious if you can pass

This is the best way we've found to determine if it's really helping or if it's placebo effect. We've collectively tried maybe 50 different things, none of which have panned out.
It's easy, just run the benchmark overnight.

Ok so I had another 3 hours session this morning which work great. Then I ran your benchmark and got through 4 runs and then it crashed! Now when I try to play I am getting crashes again. Looks like I was just getting lucky last night and this morning and I'm back to square 1. Was hoping to avoid rolling back drivers and glitchy trees but I guess that's the price you pay for 3D :)

I did a lot of troubleshooting and tested everything and can tell you its just luck .
Sometimes it works 3 hours and other times it crashes every 5 minutes.
Tested SLI, non SLI, Surround, non Surround, SFR2, Shader cache off, high, low settings, drivers from 350.12 upwards, the fix, and so on ... everything is useless and the probability of crashing 3D or freezing game every moment is killing my motivation to continue playing GTA 5.
I wish Rockstar hadn´t implemented 3D Vision out of box and our great modders could have done the job.

Thanks for running those tests, I really appreciate the time you both put in for testing.
As near as I've been able to tell it's a memory leak which happens more often in some scenarios. You can improve how long you last by rebooting right before playing, using low settings, and saving and loading after every mission save. Still going to crash though.
BTW- DHR and I have managed to solve the flickering bushes problem. I'll make new update once I nail down what makes the most sense on the profile (changes which shaders to fix).
I've given up any hope that R* is going to do jack-shit, so I'm presently looking into seeing if I can find the bug and patch it with 3Dmigoto. No promises of course, but I'm actively looking at it since we appear to have no other option.

Thanks bo3b for your patience.
Im frustrated spending too much hours in troubleshooting and gave it up.
In our discussion thread about 3D Vision (Signature) a lot of boardies wanna know if 3D Vision is still worth to get system upgrades.
As the threadstarter its very difficult for me recommending this. Me by myself downgraded for the first time since 2 decades of playing computer Games. I sold one of my 780s and stopped using Surround.
In the end I have to tell our boardies that only you great modders keep 3D Vision alive.
What if you are going to quit this modding mess without any developer support?
This would be the end of 3D Vision.
I dont wanna play old games with old drivers.
The mess will continue with new games like Just Cause 3, and I bet they stopped supporting 3D Vision after this great Just Cause 2 3D Vision ready titel.
No one is willing to continue supporting this fantastic feature.
I hope you modders get this running till consumer ready VR releases ...

You are totally right about this. Better to wait finishing games in progress before updating to Windows 10 an new drivers. That's the way of wisdom ...

Well, I'm as frustrated as you about how much time and trouble it takes to get things working. The latest drivers and Win10 transition from NVidia is worrisome, no question.
But, I still think you might be too harsh on the current state. As I've said many times, you should only buy based on the current state- not try to predict the future.
The futures is unknowable to you and to me, anything we think is nothing more than a guess. Think back 1.5 years ago. No DX11 wrapper, absolutely no hope for the future, 3D is dead. Right? Except that's not what happened.
I understand that you are frustrated, but I think you are giving bad advice to avoid 3D Vision today.
If people look at the HelixModBlog game list and see stuff they'd like to play, today, they will have a most excellent experience.
Why deny them that current fun because we think that Just Cause 3 or others won't be fixable, someday?

I hope youre right bo3b, but going back to 2D is no opinion for me.
Youre doing a great job and I´ll try thinking more optimistic.
I still recommend playing 3D Vision, but we´re also talking with our boardies about current and maybe unclear situation and 3D Vision future.

Yeah, I'm not playing in 2D either, it's 3D or nothing.
I think this will all be more clear in a couple of months. We are actually at a point where we will find out for sure whether NVidia is going to support 3D Vision, or not.
With the switch to WDDM 2.0 in Win10, that has blown 3D Vision Automatic out of the water. If they don't fix this, we will know for sure that it's over, because we can't do anything without Automatic, it's the root software for all our fixes. This change is big, and requires some serious engineering on their part.
It's not promising that it's DOA in Win10, because it's not like Win10 was a big surprise. But, they tend to not do anything until it's necessary, and they are in fact paying attention to the 3D TV Play activation server, which is a waste of effort if Automatic does not work.
So, soon we will know just how much NVidia will support 3D Vision. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.
If it does wind up being dead, we still have the option to create our own 3D Vision Automatic via the Vireio software. That's a lot of work though. So... the usual- future hazy, try again later. :->

Hey guys, been traveling for a couple of weeks to Europe.
I noticed that the 3d vision drop out problem and bad rendering issues are all resolved by setting the shader cache off, but the game keeps freezing after about 15 mins. I have tried down-clocking cpu and down clocking videocards but it doesn't do a thing. Also only happens when in 3d, but it does so consistently - i cant get through the heist because it always freezes dammit. I assume there is no solution (yet) or other profile we can try?

3D stereoscopic gaming will be back when free glass 3D display for PC will hit the market. It will be easier to show this tech to consumers, and people will realize that 3D gaming is the best way to play game (along with VR). Wearing glasses and prejudice is a no-go for now, and glasse-free display will solve the problem. There's no doubt about this.
Actually, we - as 3D vision users- are precursor: Stereo 3D gaming will become the norm, we just have to be patient.

Well, then it's just a waiting game I guess, only that there's more wait than game.
To be brutally honest now, I'd rather have it that RS had not issued it as 3D playable in the slightest way, just so that I would not have to see phlegmy outlasting my hope out of repugnant impuissance. If WE (actual consumer-group of 3D Vision, the majority experiencing bugs) can't make for a change, who then will?

(For example- Witcher3 requires reinstalling the fix, and should work, as long as you go back to older drivers by forcing it to no auto-update to newest driver, which breaks 3D Vision completely. FC4 is DOA on most recent driver as well, so it would die on 'upgrade' as well.)
Why upgrade if things are working well? What's the motivation?

Bo3b's Stability Challenge.

You are totally right about this. Better to wait finishing games in progress before updating to Windows 10 an new drivers. That's the way of wisdom ...
Win 10 64-bits 1809, ASUS Z87_AC2, Core I7 4770K, 3D Vision 2, 1 GTX MSI 1070 OC 8GB, 418.91 Nvidia driver, SSD Samsung 840 Evo 1 To, 2X8 GB DDR3 1866, ASUS VG278HR (2715*1527@144Mhz), Sound Blaster Z, Logitech Surround 5.1.
