Future of 3D Vision Support (Official announcement from NVIDIA)
  33 / 42
Yah it won't, just like 1709 is still supported, but once the Windows Media Creation tool is updated you can't download previous versions directly from Microsoft if you wanted to do a clean install. Previous versions will continue being supported, but once you update and suppose find out 3D is broken, you might need a copy for clean install of last version.

a) So for 3D Vision users, are we supposed to use the older driver version 418.91 and never update Nvidia GPU drivers again???????? b) What do they mean that 3D Vision will be updated with driver version 418? I see two 418 driver versions, 418.81 and 418.91. If we're already past the 418s and almost into the 440s, how can there be future 418 updates? I don't get it. Not only that, but I just discovered that the 419 drivers as well as the 425 drivers include 3D Vision so why is Nvidia stating to stick with 418? This is confusing. c)
Any chance that Nvidia might open source the USB driver and Stereoscopic drivers?
Would this allow us with 144 Hz displays to use 3D and Lightboost @ 144 Hz and also have the glasses synced at 144 Hz for 72 Hz/eye instead of the current 60 Hz/eye!!!!!????????? That would be amazing!!!

About why they said 418 I'm not sure, since 425.31 also supports 3D Vision c) Lightboost can only operate at up to 120hz (as far as I know). This seems to be more of a software limitation on the monitor, not on the drivers. From what I understood by using a software called Strobelight, all it takes to enable Lightboost is setting the display resolution to some specific combinations, so a custom driver should not be able to help with that.

You dont need to open source nvstusb.sys to mess with the glasses timings, see here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1106077/3d-vision/using-the-3d-vision-glasses-you-can-now-tweak-your-glasses-timings but yes he's right you wont be able to activate lightboost at any other frequencies than the "3d mode" specific timings that your monitor firmware is looking for (which make the monitor up the brightness to max and change overdrive patterns and also say its in a 3D mode in the menus somewhere) that driver can also operate pretty independently, it just needs to be told when to turn on/off and it queries current display timings and applies appropriate glasses timings over usb. but you still need to have native quad buffer support which unfortunately they removed in 430 drivers as well, just so alternative 3d vision implementations cant step in. As for the 418 "confusion", all the released drivers 418, and 425, are still from the "418" branch, thats why 3d vision is still in them. 430 is the first driver outside of the "418" branch, while there will be other "418" branch drivers with security updates in them released during the next year.

Well, I just found this out when I tried out the 430 driver and was shocked not to see 3D Vision in the settings. Then came across this thread and was filled with rage and disappointment. Quickly reverted back to the previous driver to return to sanity. @DarkStarSword, I'd be more than happy to contribute a decent amount of money to the effort you're putting in. Just let us how.
NVIDIA announced they would release critical driver updates for 3D vision until 2020, not sure how they will do it however.
Small patches/adjustments can be made to an already installed driver via their update service. They originally added this feature to update the whitelist for displays that could be used with 3DTV Play. When 3DTV Play came out, you had to submit the EDID for your display and wait for it to be added to the whitelist before it would work. Then you had to wait for the next driver release and hope it was added, if not, you waited for the next driver. So it could easily be a month before you could use it. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2774/~/how-do-i-know-if-3dtv-play-supports-my-3d-tv%3F Then they added the feature where the whitelist could be updated between drivers on the fly. Eventually, Nvidia did away with the whitelist and included most all HDMI 1.4 compliant displays. They however excluded 32 inch and smaller displays. Thus making the PS3 monitor unusable out of the box. HMDs work regardless of the size restriction, because they have a specific flag. If the update is too big, it is pushed out as a driver "hot fix" AFAIK, this 32 inch restriction is still in place.

Is this NVIDIA decision a final one or do you think we could change their mind? Shouldn’t we at least try? Any ideas?

I'll probably wait until after Computex to make a final decision.

Well... it seems i have nothing now that binds me to Nvidia like all last years. No SLI (f#cked long time ago), no 3D Vision now. Does anyone know if Nvidia have any advantages over Amd in VR? Thank you.

I don't update drivers much (was still on 390) and only just found out about this. Really, wtf? This is still the only thing I use my nvidia card for. The community here still seems as active as ever. Total dick move. Even more surprising is that after all these years there is still nothing like a 3Dvision for VR. Hopefully it won't take too long to deal with this mess.

Down the road I will not be surprised in the slightest when they abandon RT and DLSS and any and all newfangled hardware based technologies that are developed. For them the logic is simple, they would prefer to throw thousands of active 3D Vision users under the bus if it saves them a whopping $1k per driver update than do the right thing and keep the feature alive. They are a corporation, this is how corporations behave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsP0P6qgUTA&t To hear members of the community declare that they are going to run out and purchase an overpriced and renamed GPU, the 2080 Ti (2080 actual going by performance) to reward this shady decision is bewildering to put it mildly. We should NOT reward this kind of behavior, everyone of us should completely abandon Nvidia and move on to other viewing mediums. I would say that curved 21:9, 3440x1440 for all 2D content and VR for the rest of the content that is VR compatible with an all AMD (or Intel?) build on 7nm is a really nice compromise. I'm with a curved 21:9 panel and to be honest, I'm thoroughly enjoying some 2D content on this thing, I have about 55 hours in AC: Odyssey and honestly, straight up, this game in 3440x1440 @ 75 Hz everywhere comes really really close in terms of a WOW factor compared to The Witcher 3 in 3D @ 60 Hz flat 2560x1440 with inferior colors, gamma and contrast. Time to move on, DO NOT reward Nvidia for this. I will probably bounce out with a 7nm AMD GPU in the next 2-3 years, once my 1080 Ti can't keep up and once I figure out how to get FreeSync to work on my AW3418DW. You never know, Nvidia may even bring 3D Vision support back in response. But right now they are wagering that the vast majority of you are going to remain loyal little sheeple consumer moron / slaves and judging by the comments in these "3D Vision is discontinued" threads" that is a solid wager. I apologize to Master Otaku and others if you take this personally, but someone needs to urge you to make a principled stand and I suppose I will be that person.

No 2D content comes close at any resolution to a 3D Fixed game @ 4K or @ 1080P for that matter but thanks to the community I have a backlog of 100's of games to play still and I sure Starman's right about RTX and other tech but I'm sure the community will come up with a solution and I'm pis* off about the decision to no longer support 3D Vision also since. AMD is just as bad when it comes to dropping tech mantle, 3D and crossfire is a joke with an Intel chipset. I don't understand how PhysX is still supported, packaged with every driver and open sourced but not used.
