Out of screen Experience
I recently bough an ASUS G73-SW laptop hooked to a Acer GN245HQ 3d monitor and got very excited at the prospect of 3d gaming
Little did I know that i would be disapointed.
I tried, Just cause 2, Bad company 2, Hawx 2, CIV 5.

And nothing gave me what I was expecting.
An out of screen 3d
Everything went inside the screen (except for the parachute in JC")
are all the games like that?
Did any of you try a game where they feel they can almost grab the things going on?

Rarely. Even Blu-Ray movies. And when it does break the plane of the screen, it only feels a couple inches if that, and if it hits the border the sense is lost entirely.

I think the focus of 3D is depth, as if you are looking through a window into another world.

Are you tweaking the convergence? Check the nvidia 3d settings and set keys for tweaking the convergence, pump it up with those games, it should improve the pop out.

Adjust convergence. You can literally make the entire scene "out of the screen" if you wanted.

Wow, thanx guys!
That really helped. I will do some more tests but I am well on the way to change my mind!

That's the hard way! The easier way is to hold down the green button/light thing on your emitter then turn the dial. That will adjust convergence instead of depth.

Movies likely won't pop out much as they are made for HUGE screens. Games are very much another matter. The shuttle in this shot jumps about 7 inches out of the screen at me when I view it maximized.

depth and convergence options are nice but in most games, it creates horrible ghosting(double image) when you set depth more than 15%. When I put things on 100% depth, 3D really feels like 3D. It has great depth to screen and things pop out good but well.. out of 7 games I tried, 6 of them had horrible horrible double image problem when I set depth more than default setting which is like 10-15%. adjusting convergence didn't really help much coz when I fix background ghosting with convergence, another ghosting appears on other area. It happened even on 3D vision ready games like star craft 2, lost planet 2.. and crysis 2, bullet storm etc.. I am a bit disappointed that I can never use max depth % to create amazing 3D experience. On the bright side however, even at lower depth, games look really good in 3D mode. Much better than playing it without 3D stereoscopic. Games like lost planet 2, things really pops out of screen even at default depth setting. 100% depth setting of lost planet 2 is simply amazing but ghosting(double image) of background become unbearable to watch and hurts my eyes and convergence setting can't fix it. :(

You might search for "popout edition" in this forum to find a screenshot thread geared toward showing games with heavy popout.

The thing is that my screen has an IR emitter and I also have a USB emitter (2 pair of glasse were bought)
but I cannot use the wheel on the USB emitter as the glasses connect to the screen.

any fix for that?

also is there a comunity out there that are developping/pushing to the limit software or games that use this technology?

The idea of stereoscopic graphics is that objects are positioned respect to the viewer, not the frame of the display. If you are seating in front of a desktop screen, as you are close to it, only objects that are very close to the viewer will pop-out from the screen (with normal stereo settings). If you use a medium sized TV screen you are more likely to be farther from the screen, so if convergence is adjusted accordingly to recreate the same experience than with the desktop monitor, there will be more objects popping-out of the screen. The extreme case is a theatre screen, which is very very far from the viewer, so most of the objects of the image are in front of the screen rather than behind.

When 3D is on it should feel like if screen vanishes.

Use keyboard shortcuts instead of the wheel like those posted by lumpeh in the screenshot. Remember than tweaking depth shows a green bar onscreen but convergence does not, just hold the convergence shortcut for a few seconds to start noticing the effect.

Even with high convergence I still struggle mentally to see objects as if they are out of the screen. Images so separated that I have to go cross eyed to see them still seem at screen level to me. My brain just isn't falling for it I guess. Strange cause I get a really good sense of depth all the time.

You don't need high convergence, you need convergence properly set and then increase depth. Convergence moves the box in/out the screen, while depth makes the box larger. Convergence set way too high will indeed only make you go crosseyed.

Sounds like you have something screwed up pretty bad. Well, that or you are sitting a couple of feet in front of a HUGE screen.
