Power DVD 10 1080p24 playback + Nvidia Control Panel
Hello,

I recently purchase the power DVD 10 ultra II in order to play Blu-ray 3Ds. I have all the hardware needed in order to play 3D movies but I was not able to play it in 1080p24.

Power DVD 10 gives me a few methods to output the 3d when enabling the 3D option in Nvidia Control panel:

HDMI 1.4 1080p24
HDMI 1.4 720p60
HDMI 1.4 720p50
LCD Vision Ready TV 120hz
3D Ready HDTV DLP

I chose HDMI 1.4 1080p24 and set the resolution to 1080/24hz but when doing the playback I get a double image. One image is the the full screen and another one that occupies a 1/4 of the actual full screen.

The 3D HDTV TV does not allow me to change the method of viewing 3D and I'm only able to turn it on and off.

When the 3D option is disable, it gives me the option to used the 3D HDTV checkerboard and polarization LCD.
I was able to play the 3D Blu-ray by disabling the 3D in the control panel and setting the res to 1080/60hz. At that moment I can change the 3D on the 3dtv to checkerboard (Samsung UN40C7000) and I get 3D at 1080i60.

According to Cyberlink (Power DVD 10) they support HDMI 1.4 enabled 3DTV which the Samsung is but I was wondering if you have some suggestions in in order to obtain the 1080p24 playback.

Thank you.

Hi

In order to use PowerDVD with any NVIDIA 3D method (3D Vision or 3D HDMI 1.4 TV) we recommend using the "LCD Vision Ready TV 120hz" option. Its a little confusing we agree, but the video goes through the same code path and we then control how it outputs to any screen.

Thanks for your response Andrew. So that means that the TV will know what output is getting from PowerDVD and therefore changing it automatically? I'll let you know the results.

No, what it means is that the NVIDIA driver communicates the 3D display type to the TV once we received the video frames from PowerDVD.

Keyder,
PDVD 10 MII is squirrely in that the available options shown are random and not necessarily accurate, so don't go by what the drop down says. Never seen the double image problem with PDVD, but the same thing happens in the Arcsoft 3D player. The fix is to go to the nvidia CP and set the res to 1920x1080/24 when playing a Blu Ray 3D. See if that works with the PDVD player. Also, be sure that 3D is checked in the CP. What is the Logo in the CP? HDMI1.4? 3DTV Play? Something else? When everything is working right, you can leave the res at 1920x1080/60 for both games and Blu Ray 3D.
Be sure you are using the HDMI1(DVI) input, and advanced modes are activated on the Samsung.
Finally, if the only option in 3D is on or off, that means the mandatory Frame Packing mode is detected by the Samsung, presumeably 1920x1080/24. If when you push the '3D' button on the remote you see all seven advanced 3D modes, then that means the TV is getting one of the other modes, not FP. Checkerboard 1080P/60 can be confused with 1080P/24 Frame pack. To be certain what you are watching, hit 'source' and then hit 'select' on the remote. An overlay will appear telling you the refresh rate.

@Andrew I made he change to use the Nvidia 3D ready monitor and I did not enable the 3D in the power DVD interface. I think the problem was that Nvidia driver was receiving a 3D image created by power DVD. I haven't install 3DTV play yet so I think the depth is set by default really low. I think once I install 3DTV play I would be able to adjust the depth, right? It's really hard to tell if in fact the 3D is enable, except I'm able to check that the TV is set to display 3D.

@roller. The CP shows HDMI 1.4 Blu-ray because I haven't install 3DTV play yet. I used the DVI1 and when using the Nvidia 3D option I don't options from the samsung 3D menu as you mentioned above.

I got both options (checkerboard 1080p/60 and 1080p/24) working. I just had to disable the 3D enable on power DVD when using the Nvidia driver.

Thanks for your help.

You can't get 3D if the 3D icon on PDVD is shown as 'disabled' when you move your mouse cursor over the icon, unless you are in Samsung's fake 3D mode.
I haven't install 3DTV play yet so I think the depth is set by default really low.
No. With or without 3DTV Play you will get full BluRay 3D functionality, and there is no depth adjustment like there is in games.
It's really hard to tell if in fact the 3D is enable, except I'm able to check that the TV is set to display 3D.
If 3D is working, you will see great depth in your Blu Ray 3D movies. Weak depth means you are in Samsung's fake 3D mode, that explains why you are able to get "3D" even though the icon says 3D disabled.
I used the DVI1 and when using the Nvidia 3D option I don't options from the samsung 3D menu as you mentioned above.
Did you label the DVI1 input to "DVI PC"? If so, then you will see all seven 3D modes icons active. If not, four icons will be grayed out.

How did you verify these modes working?

Roller I set the 3D menu in the samsung to checkerboard (I named the HDMI1->PC), then I launched PDVD and enable the 3D there. I was able to confirm good 3D playback using 24 and 60hz. The PDVD software allow the adjustment of depth and how much % is in front as well. I have the PDVD 10 Mark II version.

I'll give the Nvidia driver a try again following Andrew's advice but when I used it before the 3D was set automatically in the same way as when you play games with 3DTV play. When checking the samsung menu I was only able to turn it off and on. No reference to the 2D->3D conversion either.

Thanks

I would also recommend, besides this awesome mod/hack driver that you also go into your menu>go down four to the source/rename source menu. Go into the second section that allows you to name connections. I highly suggest that whichever device you plan to use in 3D is connected to the HDMI1/DVI or Slot One. Then go into the rename section and add onto HDMI1/DVI, DVI PC. This should allow you to pick the other 3D options that were unavailable, including checkerboard.

Doing both the driver update and this should leave you in a easy to use situation; this includes PowerDVD 10 and Tron: Legacy; for an example. With PowerDVD 10 select "auto" for 3D type and "3D Ready TV" in the type section. I hope this helps as well. This should also help the Nvidia setup as well; but, it works perfectly for the Samsung 3D glasses (wireless). This was done on a high end computer, using an UN40C7000 Samsung 3D HDTV. The Samsung glasses worked equally as well for everything and I would suggest using them as they require much less effort in getting them to behave (for non-advanced users).
