With my projector, computer, Nvidia 3d setup what else do I need to watch 3d Movies?
Here is my setup.
New Computer i7, Windows 7, plenty of Ram, with Nvidia 480 GTX, 3d Vision etc -------- HDMI into my Samsung Blue Ray player/Receiver (NOT 3d player)-----------HDMI into my projector.
I can run 3d games perfectly through my projector in 3d vision and am wodnering if I can just buy 3d Dvd's and start watching in 3d? Do I need the samsung to be a 3D player also? Could I just download online 3d movies and run them through my computer and 3d vision instead of watching an actual 3d disc in my samsung?

If you go through your PC you need PowerDVD 11 Ultra or Arcsoft TMT or any similar software Blu-Ray 3D playing software and a Blu-Ray reader optical drive (if you want to watch physical Blu-Rays). PowerDVD has been excellent for me and generally has the most up to date support for new features, even if they like to charge you for every incremental update. The software is the key though as it will play other forms of 3D media that are unsupported by the free stereo players out there. So if you have neither, it will generally run you $50 for the software, $50 for the blu-ray drive, which is about the same as an external blu-ray 3D player I believe.
If you had a 3D Blu-Ray player you could just pop the 3D Blu-Ray into the player and that would output the necessary modes for 3D directly to your PJ.

Thanks chiz! U were just as helpful in the skyrim thread. okay..few questions
1 - Is the software online? Just google it? safe to dl?
2 - The blue ray drive will "replace" my current dvd drive or sit next to it in my tower?
3 - ONce I get the software and drive...how do I use 3d vision to play avatar or a movie in 3d? Press the emiter button once dvd is in?
4 - They charge PER UPDATE in this software you described? jesus

1) http://www.cyberlink.com/store/powerdvd/upgrade_en_US.html?&r=1 free trial for 30 days, after you can buy totally safe.
2) The blu-ray drive is same as any older optical dvd/cd drive, just drop in replacement to go into your PC tower, or you can get an external one if you want to be able to move it about easily.

3) The software is pretty good about determining what your set up is, the most recent version of 11 knew I had 3D Vision and automatically configured to frame sequential, older versions you had to do a few more settings.
4) They charge for incremental version upgrades with major support changes, so for PowerDVD 8 it was Blu-Ray support. 8 to 9 was HD Audio bitstream support. 9 to 10 was 3D support. Not sure what changed in 10 to 11 but that's what they're on now. Maybe they are just using the EA/Madden sports model of updating every year, but yeah instead of buying once and getting incremental upgrades, you have to upgrade for major new features. They don't charge however for minor patches or compatibility fixes (like different blu-ray standards). I only upgrade every few iterations when there's a feature I have to have. I still haven't upgraded to the 3D Versions because there's not enough 3D movie content out there yet for me yet, although that may change when Transformers 3 3D and Avatar 3D finally get released.

When you purchase the Bluray drive for your PC, if you purchase a retail box version instead of just an oem bare drive, it should come with the software for movie playback. This is usually cheaper than purchasing the software separately. I picked up an LG BH12LS35 Bluray drive 6 months ago on sale for $70. This drive is also a Bluray rewriter and it came bundled with an oem version of PowerDVD 9 with 3D support. This is not the latest version of their software, but it has played everything I have tried without any problems or headaches. This is connected to an Acer H5360 projector.
Whatever you do, stay away from Corel WinDVD. It was unstable, a pain in my arse, and their support was not helpful.

I highly recommend trying Stereoscopic player. You can get the free version online and its probably cheaper than anything else. With the free version, I think you can play anything 3d for 5 minutes before it stops. Paid, it does everything. I have watched a bunch of 3d blurays and all kinds of other video. It really is flexible and it works great.

Yeah good point, the only thing I would warn about with those OEM versions is they usually cut features somewhere or another. With my OEM version for example, they limited PDVD decoded sound output to stereo. I'm not sure if you use HD bitstream or LPCM output for Blu-Ray but I wouldn't be surprised if they cut that from the bundled OEM version.
