When did L4D2's waters break? As it were... a question from a valve person
[i]Andrew,

Thanks for your mail. We have worked with nVidia to ensure the best possible experience for gamers using their stereo systems. Are you saying that there were recent breaks in L4D2 or that these particular features (the water and the torch) have always had artifacts for you. If they rendered correctly before, do you know when approximately they broke? Do you know if it was correlated with an app update or perhaps a driver update on your system?

Hi I have just started playing L4D2. I notice the waters don't work, however they do in L4D. In L4D2 you get object doubling where-ever water is behind the object. As I have just started playing the games I cannot answer Jason's question. I do remember someone here also mentioning the water reflection thingy. Could someone tell me if it has always been an issue or has it just occured.

Many thanks

Andy

In l4d2 Im almost %100 certain it has been like that for since the begining. it also occurs on the spiter goo as well i think. Things like charecter names also dont render in 3d.

The crosshair works in 3d tho which is good :P

They could do with fixing the sky boxes while they are at it!

The 3D skyboxes would probably be a major job to fix as it has been an issues from the HL2 days of Source. The water is however a recent addition and the chaps at Valve seemed genuinely suprised.

Jason replied regarding the torch - set r_flashlightscissor to 0 in the console. And that works. :)

As ADZ_3000 says, the water has been broken in 3D since L4D2 was first released. As for the 3D skybox objects, all that would be required to fix them is to resize them or change the scaling factor the engine uses (which would only take a few seconds for each level). I wrote several fairly detailed posts in this thread (with example jps screenshots) about 3D anomalies in the original L4D (all of which are still broken in the sequel). I'd be grateful if you could pass the link onto Jason as it would be fantastic if Valve could fix these issues.
Cheers,
DD

I was just about to post that those fixes are painfully easy. /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I've only had 3D vision for about a month and L4D2 was one of the first games i tried, noticed the weird water effects but it doesnt bother me too much, too busy mashing zombies with my axe/sword!!! lol

People have said that the first one works perfectly with s3D but i darent install it because of all the masses of updates (slow internet here) and plus i really like the melee weapons, hate not using them! But if what pahncrd said is right (L4D1 having anomalies) then im glad i didnt waste my time getting it going :)

p.s. awesome thing to do in s3D on this game is throw a boomer vile down and when they all pile up, bundle in and start swinging the sword like a maniac! awesome fun! specially with good convergence. It's nice to see valve still interested in the gamers thoughts though :)
