I don't ever play tf2 in 3d if I wanna be on top of the server. Which is to say - I don't ever play multiplayer in 3d.
The whole problem with 3d ruining any high-level skill is because you're forced to use vsync, which adds mouse lag, period. Even if you're capped at 60 fps the whole time, you're still gonna get your ass kicked by a non-vsycned player.

ya i thought there was something weird going on. Battlefield heros i can go 10/2 lots but not with 3d turned on. I said that i would never go back to 2d but it would apperar that this may not be possable unless you like being a bullet-spunge.

I play CoD WaW in 3D all the time... I dont go as well as usual, but i still get about 40fps usually, so I still go well enough for it to be fun...
I intend to hopefully do the same with MW2, if I can get it working well enough in 3D :P
Playing in 3d is a sacrifice of your gaming performance against your gaming enjoyment and immersion.
In 3d if you are sniping or aiming at a group of targets you will loose factions of a second as your eyes have to phisically re-focus to see targets at different depths.
While I do love 3d, if I was doing any competitive gaming I would have to stick to 2d.
Do people actually play MP games for fun anymore or is everyone just concerned about their meaningless Kill-death ratio?
LOL, that's just my thoughts. I thought I was the only one thinking that.
First time I tested multiplayer I expected some single player feeling but with live people, I guess I expected too much from people. To my dissapointing they seem to find more fun seeing their names on top of ranks, instead of enjoying a kind of "imaginary adventure" together with friends (or at least, with live people)
Said that, I have to add that of course I respect the way each one gets fun (a competitive playing could be fun at some moment even for me), but what I can't accept as normal is that EVERYBODY seems to go after that "meaningless Kill-death ratio" and only after that. Nobody seems to enjoy simple playing and believing, for a moments, that he is a WWII soldier, or living a futuristic adventure, or whatever, in company of some nice folks. Quite sad if you ask me...
Naif imaginative playing is dead. Long life to kill-death ratio playing!
Maybe I miss the fun moments when children in basic school playing with friends, when we were in a different world, different beings...That was multiplayer playing.
BTW, if there is someone who knows of servers where people control/restric themselves to some rules of that kind or if someone considers himself so "naif" :P as me, and wants to play multiplayer or cooperative as if he/she was starring a movie, I would be glad to share some fun moments. It seems to be pretty impossible to find that kind of fun online...
To the OP I would say that I use 3D online when I try cooperative modes (sometimes) and (much less) multiplayer, but for the reasons exposed above I quit (very) quickly MP, and for the same reasons I don't mind if get on top of the ranking because of stereo activated (beginning from the bottom, of course...).
My advice, use it in MP when you want to play MP as I described above, if you ever do, and disable it when in competitive playing. As JoePyeWalker said, 3D Vision strenghts are more about immersion, "role playing" feeling and general enjoyment. It was not thought with competitive game in mind.
(Sorry for the semi-rant. Sincerely I couldn't resist to answer)

Play everquest, a lot of people ply that seriously and even talk on it as if they are the player in the game, an this is the first time i have ever advised someone to try WoW... but it seems to fit your needs, people ge serious about that and play it like a film and such. obviously there are those that go around killing boars in the forest etc but there are a lot of people who feel about the game like you do. everquest is probably preferable as it has nicer graphics, not sure how well either of them work in 3d but they arent FPS so wont be effected as much by slight lag issues.

I have not played much COD4 since I got it but I did not notice any differences for the brief moments I played, I was still kicking ass! lol
Still, I am curious, I am going to play more to see if it hurts me since indeed v sync is something I never use for COD4 before.
