Future of 3D Vision Support (Official announcement from NVIDIA)
  8 / 42
VR is great and I use it often but for games like World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, I prefer nVidia 3D Vision. I will probably just build a new PC in the future and leave this box specifically for 3D Vision games.

Oh no, not another PC for something "not supported anymore" in my Room. .. At the moment i am making profiles for VorpX, but 3D-Vision is still an important part of my equipment - and will be (hopefully somehow). I got 2 3D-Vision Monitors and several PCs, starting with Win98/Elsa stuff ect. And for each i bought guess what , so THANK YOU NIVIDA ! @Nvidia I would suggest either keep the 3D-Vision drivers as (unsupported) part of future drivers (why not ?), or create an easy to access interface for 3rd party software. I wouldnt say you "owe" this to us, but you may keep loosing reputation. @Darkstarsword PLEASE dont make that mistake that everybody is making, DONT sell stuff through steam only! VorpX for example is not selling through steam for very good reasons. Many people just dont deal with steam for even more good reasons. -Please at least consider selling a future product as usual on a website also, thank you ! RJ

I will definitely support every decision will it be Kickstarter or monthly fee. And I hope that this can be done and there will be so many supporters that it will come true. The main problem I think will be new GPUs, because if we only cane use 2080Ti then after 5 years we can't play new AAA games :(

Nvidia Hurt it by making price of entry so high I always wanted it but I was in college and couldn’t afford it until 2015, instead of trying to support the widest amount of displays and methods. They tried to monetarily charge for every piece of the pie. And they only way around it was hacks after it was way out of the public eye. When just trapping 3D users in their ecosystem would have been enough. Ofcourse the whole entertainment industry bungled it.

It's not that high as long as you are careful with the resolution you are trying to drive it at, really... (CPU bug aside, which is ultimately game dependent.) A monitor, and the emitter and a powerful enough card for your resolution. I would personally still be rocking a single 1080p monitor for 3dvision if I didn't have the budget. It's still the single most impressive graphical upgrade you can give to your system, and the performance required shows. It died a death of poor marketing and ignorance on the part of Developers and gamer population who mostly to this day have idea what they are missing. The 3D movie industry had as much to blame also. If Nvidia were smarter they would have done a major 3D game gameplay footage push to big movie releases.

This is a complete tragedy, but let's think that with tragedy comes opportunity, so maybe shaderhackers now freed from hardware bounds can really make a living with 3d gaming if played right. IMHO 3d vision gamers tend to hate VR, but VR means several million stereoscopic devices sitting there recieving indie games with average quality and barely 3-4 hour gameplay and barely 1 or 2 AAA games per year, so 3d gaming could fill that void. Even if shaderhackers hate VR, the sustainability of 3d goes hand in hand with VR compatibility, and even now there're Windows MR devices that go regularly on sale for 200 euro, so VR is really a fairly accesible entry point for anyone to 3d gaming. Also VR is the only hope for 3d gaming against current 3d hardware obsolescence we're facing, and also future VR headsets will keep improving, even now Pimax 8K makes 3d gaming pretty decent. Add to that that's almost a given that PS5 will supoort a much higher quality VR HMD, and even Nintendo just released a VR... thingy, so VR is here to stay, 3D gaming as we know it, not so much. Currently VORPX has proven that a propietary 3d driver is a working model. Vorpx costs 40 bucks, but it's still being developed and updated regularly, so it's sustainable financially. I think there's a market window for a 3d driver that doesn't emulate full VR like Vorpx does, but has a much higher and better compatibility at a lower price point. IMHO the price point would be $10-20, and if you make a kickstarter, I think you should provide a limited demo with maybe 5-10 high quality games supported like Witcher 3, Batman games, etc. so that people can test for free how great 3d gaming is on virtual 3d. I can't think that anyone testing Witcher 3 in 3d for free won't support your kickstarter campaign, it's basically a revelation. Perhaps another business model could be having a Patreon subscription, where monthly subscribers get the latest fixes first, and non subscribers get them later. This has been working great for some emulators like RPCS3 which makes $3.000 monthly, or CEMU which makes $6.000 monthly. I hope that timed right, a new 3D propietary driver from you guys will match with the release of Avatar 2 with hopefully some new amazing 3d tech that will make a second coming of 3d, and you would be positioned perfectly to take advantage of that, and make a real living on of 3d development. As for me, I'll support anything you guys do, I'm far from rich but i'll sure give whatever I can, and if I can help by any other means, just ask.

I just thought I'd add my voice to the "masses" here on the forum.... reading that announcement over the weekend was just the worst news I've heard in a long time. Without 3d vision I'd likely stop serious gaming altogether, so I would absolutely support a kickstarter, monthly contributions, etc. Big thanks to everyone in the front lines with the skills and time to potentially take things forward... Fingers crossed Nvidia agrees to go open source!

Ugh! I am convinced 3D Vision wasn't as successful as it should have been because of two awful software decisions NVidia made: 1 - setting default depth to 10% instead of 100% - VR is what, fixed at 100%? 2 - hiding and locking convergence settings I am sure NVidia don't care about my sales but at least I can consider AMD gfx cards now...

..it just dosnt make sense to remove the stereo drivers , neither busineswise nor servicewise. Its so simple, a driver update can do a quick check if 3D Vision hardware is present, if not it just doesnt install the stereo stuff. The "normal" user will not be affected at all and never was IIRC... @Skyrimer3d Developing a whole new thing will take years. In my eyes at this point it makes more sense to pay 40 bucks (35 Euros) for VorpX instead of trying out this and that which will never meet the quality of the driver and will be always behind in time. Donno what Nvidia is up to in this concern, i would advice them to aquire VorpX instead of starting with something totally new. This of coarse may result in a drop in price because of the mass of customers also.

Another thing could be (this has been talked about before i beleive) some kind of 3D-Vision bridge or SBS output to a regular device by vorpX. This way VorpX games (inofficially 600 by now) could be played on a monitor. I am not shure if the dev had semothing like that in mind, but at least some people have asked for it recently. @SubjectBucko Yes vorpX only works with headset and it really isn't that good almost every game I tried with Vorpx I had problems with it but it does work with Bioshock and Mirror Edge but this using big screen mode not vr mode.

Im all for financial support of anyone daring enough to tackle a new 3d driver/hardware system, but as far as monthly subscriptions...I don't find that too attractive in 2019. Tridef tried the subscription to use software and failed miserably. Id rather support via donations and one time up front fee software license. Even if it has to be a few hundred bucks...on the price levels of Adobe, Sony Vegas type software prices.
