I have the acer it works well. Its cheaper then the alienware, which is important when you plan to get 3.

no issues with the acer, 3d Vision looks really good on it especially coming from an IZ3D monitor.

Alienware all the way. I tried the Acer for a day and took it back. What a cheap POS it was. Yes, it runs in 120Hz, but looks like crap with anything text related. It is also made of cheap plastic and looks like poop sitting on your desk. Oh, and Dell runs specials that bring the price on the Alienware down to cheaper than the Acer. I got mine for about 30 bucks cheaper than the Acer. Oh, plus you get USB outputs, a lot more options in the menu, a fully adjustable stand... and... well, there is no ugly orange stand with the Alienware.

erm the AW and Acer use the exact SAME panel they are the SAME monitor......

The panels are made in the same factory.... Dell just charge $100 more for the same panel chnage the stand and offer the EXACT same warrenty...

The only diff in the AW and the Acer is do you want a black stand or a orange one... The aw model also has a different PCb and offers audio in and out vs out (from hdmi) on Acer and a USB port x4 and drops DSUB input todo this. The DVI and HDMI ports are in exact same location to the MM which gives away they are the same actual screen. The only real fualt with either screen is the OSD is bit of a pain (but livebale).

I have used the two side by side. They are NOT the same panel. They DO perform differently not drastically different but they are different.

What disturbs me is the price on the AlienWare! I live in europe, so everything from the states, is more expensive here.

From pixmania you get the Acer for 359,90€, and the AlienWare for 607€!!!
That is almost 2x more expensive!!!

I would feel so stupid if it was only a slight difference between the AW and the Acer!!!
I don't like Acer, but come on!

If they are the same monitor, then why are forum posts all describing totally different issues with these monitors?! I did the research before buying my monitors and everyone said the AW's are much more clean and crisp and seem to have less ghosting issues. I went with 3 AW2310's and although I haven't used all three of them at once yet, I have been cycling them to get ready for 3 monitor surround and all three of them have worked perfectly. I went from a 30 inch Dell high Definition monitor which did great for the couple years I used it, but it only had 60 Hz refresh and didn't have near the contrast range of these new monitors. I think you get what you pay for usually, and since Dell has financing, why not go with the best possible?

I have also used side by side and with testing they showed as same panel, if you think they are different as in the actual panel you must be on drugs! come on the osd is even the same. they are made in the same place FFS.

The only difference is the Acer has Dsub and the AW audio in and out not just out and Aw has a USb port.

perhaps the USB port affects the display?

erm, nooo.

This is a typical show and tell of people who did not look round the OSD and see what the settings where. Do you think there are two factories both making 1080p 120HZ panels in LCD at the same time. AW charge more especially in the Eu as they are a more "premuim" brand than Acer.

Its like saying a Zotac 480 is different to a EVGA 480, the silcon was made in the same place all that chnages is the box warrenty (sometimes testing of unit before sale) and stickers on the UNIT.

because the monitor have different drivers in vista and win7.

They are the same unit bar a slighty different PCB USb vs dsub. And people saying they have less ghosting issue on the AW are basically syaing yes I paid more but it must be better. The big deal was the Acer and Dell have the same warrenty which was a huge giveaway about which factory these units came from. Also they are both LCD not LED. I'm happy to recommend either but they are the same unit.

but as pointed out in this thread if you think paying the price of 6 acers vs 3 dell for an extra 12 usb ports is fab go for it. And I note AW has been dropping the price of their unit worldwide as people noted the Acer was the same unit.

Audio Output Speaker(s)
Signal Input HDMI, DVI-D, VGA
Manufacturer Warranty 2 years warranty

Note due to incorrect tech specs on both ACER and Alienware site you may be confused that this is NOt the same panel made by the same OEM

both screens are 2MS G2G in 2d 60hz but 3ms at 120HZ in 3d. Acer and dell spec this different as it's not a LEGAL requirement.

both screens are 80k:1 contrast.

Image brightness reads as 400 on AW but only 300 on Acer due to dell upping the standard brightness and the difference in panel size is frankly different cases.

both units also have DVI and HDMI inputs in exact same position. also offer Audio out in exact same spot. which is a huge giveway it's the same screen.

I also tested both in BC2 which is a killer 3d titles and the only issue BOTH had was sniper scopes in 3d in Bc2 with some slight ghosting which is probably game-code related more than the monitors. because the stand heights differ you can;t mix and match perfectly so you hve to buy either 3x acer or aw both are great screens.

I'm also trying to decide between Acer/Alienware. I was thinking about getting Acer because it seems like Alienware just has some fluff stuff I don't care about for extra $. But it looks like some people are reporting that when used for normal everyday use picture looks horrible when overdrive is active on Acer, especially text. There is white halo around black text etc., and overdrive is active by default so it has to be turned off manually every time. Can anyone who has Acer confirm this, or it is just an issue on individual basis?

If it's true, then this is really a problem. Although I'm buying one of these monitors primarily for 3D, for this price I would certainly like to be able use them for normal use as well.

Can anyone who has Acer confirm this, or it is just an issue on individual basis?

If it's true, then this is really a problem. Although I'm buying one of these monitors primarily for 3D, for this price I would certainly like to be able use them for normal use as well.
I ordered the Acer GD245HQ
I'm also trying to decide between Acer/Alienware. I was thinking about getting Acer because it seems like Alienware just has some fluff stuff I don't care about for extra $. But it looks like some people are reporting that when used for normal everyday use picture looks horrible when overdrive is active on Acer, especially text. There is white halo around black text etc., and overdrive is active by default so it has to be turned off manually every time. Can anyone who has Acer confirm this, or it is just an issue on individual basis?
