Computer freezes when first opening I.E. with Stereoscopic 3d Enabled
Hi,
I'm new to 3d and 3d vision. I just bought a 3d monitor. The problem is when stereoscopic 3d is enabled from Nvidia Control Panel, computer freezes for a few seconds when I open Internet Explorer. Then you can use it normally. If you open a web page on a new window same thing happens.
When I remove the tick from the "Enable stereoscopic 3d" box, internet explorer starts normally. I have firefox too which doesn't have the problem at all but it is just a nuisance.
I tried a few other programs but seems everything else works perfectly.
I'm using a samsung monitor and edid override, I wonder if this is the problem. But everything else works perfectly. I can play 3d games in Frame Sequential and watch movies without problem. I searched the forums but seems this is not a common thing :/ I tried a fresh driver install. That didn't worked either.
Any help is appreciated just don't tell me to not use I.E. or buy a 3d vision approved monitor if there may be other reasons for this problem. I have my reasons using both I.E. and this monitor.
I'm using;
Windows 8 x64 (All updates are done.)
Nvidia Driver 314.07
Asus Gtx 560 ti Cu2 top
Samsung S23A700D (with Acer HN274 H edid override)
I didn't have any problems with graphic cards and monitors before so if you need any other information please tell.
Thanks in advance.

This is not common, but I had a similar problem on windows 7 ie9. Back then you could disable 3D for non full screen programs, so that ie would not load the driver but a game would. Unfortunatly nvidia in their wisdom removed this feature from the drivers a while ago. I use ie10 on windows 8, purely becuase of it syncing nicely with my ipad/iphone bookmarks. I hate when people tell me what software to use too, but can i ask why you use ie10 and not something like google crome? I find ie10 even corrupts sending a private message on this forum (cant see note form) where as chrome is always fine. Just wondering :-)
Anyway, things that may help you find a solution for your problem: look in ie 10 to turn on software rendering instead of gpu. i'm pretty sure that disables the 3D in ie10.. Everything seems to still work smoothly with it off. If you are often viewing 3D images via ie10, and you want a 100% fix i cant be of anymore help I'm afraid.
Edit: You can still view 3D images with software rendering (sure that wasn't the case it ie9) but I'm sure this helped my problem last time, so still give it a try.

For Google crome, I don't like Google processes working on background all the time. I never searched if you can shut them off completely though..
I know people don't like I.E. and some web sites doesn't work with it but I don't know.. I'm used to it I guess. I like Opera the best but still use I.E. as primary and firefox & opera as secondry.

I wasn't expecting this to be solved at first post :D Thank you very much. This solved the problem.

Glad your got your problem sorted out, I don't know if turning of GPU acceleration will cause any other problems down the line, but it worked for me for a few months until the problem went away with win8 (unlucky you!) As for not wanting to feed the google monster, that I can understand, but I kind of like targeted adverts... helps me choose what to buy when I can't think of anything to spend my money on! Anyway, Take care.

:) Well, so far so good. I didn't notice any problems yet. Thanks again.
Edit: until I opened youtube :D there seems to be problem with flash videos. Freezing when opening I.E. now happens when I start a flash video. Maybe my I.E. days are coming to an end after all.

Oh no! so close and yet so far. Ok, well I have tested on my ie10 and with software rendering enabled and flash still works fine. Just to rule out all oddities, can you try again with software rendering enabled and restart your PC. If that doesn't work, ensure you are using the most up to date version of flash. Other then that, I can't really help you. We have the same OS and browser but it's not working the same. Weird! Is your IE all up to date as well?

Well; +on -off
+stereoscopic 3d -software rendering = flash videos normal, I.E. freezes computer on start.
+stereoscopic 3d +software rendering = flash videos freezes computer and you only see black backround instead of video, I.E. starts normal
-stereoscopic 3d ±software rendering = everything works
I updated the Windows with Windows Update. Is there another place for updating I.E.?
I checked for flash but appereantly you can't install flash because flash is now integrated to I.E. :D I just found that out too.
Restart didn't work either. Well, it probably happens because of the edid override :( Worst case scenerio I'll enable stereoscopic 3d only when I play a game and use monitor's side by side option for movies.
Edit: I found a link from the adobe web page for updating Windows 8 Flash Player but after downloding it, it said "you already have this update". So Windows Update downloads flash updates too.

Well done for getting an avatar ;-) Such a pain, I guess its your edid override, but i would still wager a bet its some random software fault shenanigans. I personally don't think turning off nvidia 3D off when you're not using it is a bad idea anyway. The 3D drivers can cause problems with 2D games such as frame rate issues or even graphical abnormalities (although rare it has happened to me.) Also nvidia 3D locks the screen brightness (normally) even if your playing 2D. That is why I personally always turn it off unless all I'm doing is 3D gaming.
Sorry I couldn't fix it for you!
