I played for a while but it seems very Linear and without a compelling story these style of play is lost on me. Does this change later on?

As it is a "sandbox MMO" I didn't have the impression that it is linear. In contrary I sometimes wished to have a more guided experience. As far as I have played the personal story doesn't seem to be the focus of the game (especially compared to TESO, etc.). It might be that there is more story telling in the lore and history of the complete world. But I didn't read so many dialogues during the beta. The reason is that You can't just click through several topics but You often need requirements to be able to get informations. Again a "realistic" and complex approach to game play mechanics as there are many others in BDO. To me it sometimes is bordering between challenging complex and unnecessarily complicated. You should be carefull with playing BDO as it might spoil You the look of every other (fantasy) MMORPG. After a weekend with BDO I returned to TESO and realized how synthetic and boring the landscapes in this game are :(

Ahh Ok, I did not play it for too long, as it was giving me some Theme park mmo vibes which I am not interested in at this point. But maybe it was a tutorial type thing. I'll give it another chance on release. the combat did feel good. (although not so sure about the enemy AI) hmm. I personally got very bored of ESO once I hit end game, but I agree it looks pretty bland. I am more of a GW2 player which I think is amazing looking in surround 3D and a much more innovative game. BSO felt a bit clunky in it's general polish but those character models are certainly pretty. Hopefully someone can take a look at real 3D support at some point.

I have just completed the "main story" of TESO/ESO (killed Molag Bal) and I'm happy that I manged to do this before the update that forces You to use Dx11. I hope that we can fix the Dx11 version but personally I also could close the game at this point as I'm not very interested in the veteran end game content. Whereas it is very obvious that the characters in BSO are very (too?) pretty I was quite disappointed by the character editor. It offers many sliders for minor details but You are bound to the archetype of Your class - not to mention the gender. So if I want to play as tamer I only can play with a young girl... And as You can't see the little details of the other PCs You often get the feeling that You are surrounded by clones. Same with NPCs. I would prefer to have less detailed and pretty characters in favor of variety. So for me it was the landscape and the architecture which fascinated me. It really felt natural and grown whereas in many (MMO)PRGs You can clearly see that they are the result of game design or tool kit and not of nature/geology/history. Also the animations are great and it makes fun to explore the landscape on foot. It's hard to believe but the characters in BSO even make use of their HANDS (!!!) when climbing! Compered to the strange flat gliding in TESO this is a revolution ;)

I used to love the Champion's Online character creator. You could morph and tweak to your hearts desire and come up with some original heroes.

I actually got a bit overwelmed by the character creator, apart from those problem's with being locked in with the archetype, I felt that you were maybe given too much choice here, all the muscles in the face and such. it just seemed if I changed things all I'd do is make an ugly character, hah.

Yes, tried to create a more grown-up look for my tamer girl and it just looked like an ugly child :S

Any chance that the 3D is fixable?

People are generally reluctant to touch these games considering they are continuously updated. (e.g see ESO is about to be broken with the removal of the Dx9 client) it's a bit out of my ability at this point but hopefully someone takes an interest, if anything it sure is pretty and the combat feels great

I think this one sadly was off the charts of interest for most people here. It would be really nice to see in correct 3d. I was wrong in my initial assumptions of it, its a very sandbox game and pretty interesting.

I think it went off radar for most of the fixers, sadly, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Im sure I would play it more if it has a proper 3d... it looked great even with the broken things :)

Just tried the game, it has a 7 day free trial right now. It seems that only the shadows are broken and there is no way to turn them off. Such a pity, with large separation and convergence the game looks insanely good in 3d. There is a low graphic optimization mode that actually turns the shadows off and the game looks super good in 3D then (but then all graphic effects are also disabled). The UI is also in 2d but you can rearrange it after the tutorial or disable nameplates. (it would look OK with the HUD pushed back) I don't know how many people here play MMOs for this to get attention, too bad though because only the shadows are ruining the 3D experience for this game.

Check to see if the game allows console commands for custom settings.
