Andrew Fear at CES 2012...in 3D! Andrew gets interview by MTBS at CES!
Hi Guys!

We have a treat for you today! I'm very excited because I really think it came out nicely - and it was all done in 3D. We got an interview with Andrew Fear at CES 2012 and he had a lot of cool things to show.

It's a two part interview, and it was a lot of fun to put together. I hope you like it.

Regards,
Chopper

Nice interview - hopefully a lot of the people that stopped by the 3D area liked what they saw and will jump on the 3D Vision bandwagon. The more people that are into it and want 3D support in their games will hopefully push some of the anti-3D developer crowd to change their minds.

Nice job with the interview Chopper! :)

I was hoping to see more in there about new products and games, but we mostly just got the official "can't comment on unannounced products" line. The best part in there however was about upcoming 3D Vision Ready games for the "Spring" and Andrew seemed pretty excited about that (followed by the disclaimer), so that's good news imo. I really hope that means Mass Effect 3 and Diablo 3 will be 3D Vision Ready. Just something weird with the 3 in a lot of recent games coinciding with 3D support as well.....

I think Diablo 3 has a lot better chance than Mass Effect 3 based on prior Blizzard games and 3D. Don't get me wrong though, I would love to have Msss Effect 3 be 3D Vision ready also.

Yeah I think the one thing going for ME3 though is the people who work on the ME series are clearly the most tech-savvy of any of the Bioware studios and are at least somewhat interested in adding as many bells and whistles to make their game look great. A lot of that comes by default using UE3, which is the biggest reason for optimism imo, since UE3 has natively supported 3D Vision since Mar 2010. The 3D Vision results with games that used UE3 in 2011 were all very good to excellent, and many of these games probably used the updated SDK. While I can't say for sure Bioware used the updated 3D SDK, ME2 released in Mar 2010 and that would give nearly full 2 years of development time for ME3.

I'm actually a little bit worried about Diablo 3 though. I don't have beta access, but the last time I looked at some 3D screens, the item text and cursor were still 2D. Not super game-breaking in a top-down game like D3, but could be so much better if all that text were rendered in 3D (See Dungeon Siege 3).

I hope when they release 1080p60 3DTVs, Nvidia showcases some 46" examples for people to try. I think its an amazing setup, especially when you can increase your FoV in a game, which of course you usually can. Was the driver programmer there [note the singular usage of programmer]? I would have loved to pick his brain. Trine 2 - Andrews personal favorite....great news for us FPS'ers! /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> That game does look amazing though, as i only recently found out.

Is that a Gopro camera setup your using, looks like it from the aliasing. They need better software or something. I been wondering if theres a better way to combine the two perspectives, since in 2D they get great quality video.

@ME: I thought Mass Effect 1 and 2 were great in 3D, although you did have to turn off the shadows. I have a feeling ME 3 is going to try and go all out on the graphics to make it look as good as it can, which means some 2D tricks possibly.
EDIT: Although i now remember I was using Tridef, which didn't have the 2D light doubling problem.

46" Samsung ES7500 3DTV (checkerboard, high FOV as desktop monitor, highly recommend!) - Metro 2033 3D PNG screens - Metro LL filter realism mod - Flugan's Deus Ex:HR Depth changers - Nvidia tech support online form - Nvidia support: 1-800-797-6530

Good stuff guys enjoyed the interview. Look forward to more 3D vision games. I'm glad things have calmed down a bit starting to catch up on a huge backlog.
