F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Seems A LOT better than "Fair" with 3D Vision
Okay, I bought F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin the other day on Steam so I can get up to speed on the story before the 3rd installment comes out. I was a big fan of the first one and its exp. packs. I knew this title was considered "FAIR" by Nvidia's rating so I wasn't expecting much but when I fired the game up and played it, I would've given the game at least a "Good" to "Excellent" rating. The only issue I noticed was that the crosshair is at screen depth, but you have iron sights in this game plus the Nvidia laser sight works too and doesn't cause a performance impact at all. In fact, I thought F.E.A.R. 2 works BETTER in 3D than the original F.E.A.R. If anybody has played the original, there are places in the game where you take a considerable performance hit, dropping in the upper 20's fps (and I have a beastly rig) with 3D enabled. F.E.A.R. 2 sees no such performance impact whatsoever, and it's graphics are far more detailed than the original.

Anybody else want to weight in here?

I first played fear2 a year or two ago in 2D. I tried it again a couple months ago, just a few minutes to evaluate the 3D effect. I thought it was quite good, don't recall much ghosting/artifacts. I never bothered looking up nvidia's rating, so I'm surprised to find it was only fair. Fun game, another older title I'll play again just for the 3D.

Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, I think it is an extremely underrated game for 3D Vision. I own most of the games considered "Excellent" on Nvidia's rating and considered this one as good as most of them on there.

I finished Fear 2, a few weeks ago. I agree. This game in 3D looks much better than "fair". The beginning of the game is a little boring, but after a while, I felt very immersed into the story. The only thing I did not like is the ending.

Indeed, the only problem is the doubled crosshair. I found a way to access the crosshair graphics to try and remove it, but it is in a series of flash files, and I cannot figure out which files are actually used and also how to pack it all up again. Damned shame as I felt I was close to removing that damned crosshair before I hit the wall.

In the original you could adjust the size and alpha of the crosshair to make it nearly invisible - is that no longer an option for the sequel?

unfortunately not - Monolith console derpified FEAR 2's options pretty bigtime. No removing the monstrously obtrusive HUD, crosshair, "PRESS E TO INTERACT" prompts... pretty disappointing.

I also finished the game and the expansion some time ago, and the 3d is really amazing at some places. I got used to the cross-hair being at screen depth, so the only problem for me was whenever you go outside, the sky is at the wrong depth and can be annoying. Other than that, it's should be "good" at least, this is the kind of game that improves tenfold in 3d, since this kind of immersion helps so much to increase tension whenever alma shows around. I hope silent hill downpour is 3d ready, I'm still looking for the perfect 3d horror experience, I thought that Dead Space 2 would be it but it still has some problems.
