Is there a future for 3D Vision? (the hardware version)

I have to agree with everything Nutz said. And I agree with Blacksmith about strategy games. The video you showed of the dude playing a strategy game with VR? Seriously? Why would ANYONE want to do that? I don't need to try that to know I would hate it. Squat down on the ground to zoom in? Are you serious? --- I understand that's simply a proof of concept video, but my point is this: You don't always have to try everything to know if it's for you or not.
Yes it's a proof of concept made by a nerds in his bedroom, the gameplay sucks and no one want to play a RTS standing 3 hours long...I get that. But it shows the potential of VR. I guess people can't understand VR through Youtube, you have to wear an HMD at least once in your life to understand the potential...
And if you ask me, about 3Dvision, I don't want to look like this:

It's ridiculous. I don't have to try it to know it's not for me.

I find myself reluctantly gravitating back towards 2D these days due to the many issues involved with 3D, even with the great support given here. I went with a projector because I couldn't deal with any ghosting but I have been weighing up the pros and cons of both formats for some time and have found it very difficult to let go of this format.
I am now at the point where I just want to enjoy games again, there are so many cons to 3D at the moment that my mind is finally giving up on it, bad support, low res with projector making jaggies very distracting, glasses too dark and dull textures, performance issues, driver issues, depth hacks. I have been putting up with it all, just to have depth but I am at a point where I now think it's just not worth it.
Just to put a game on in 2D is such a relief sometimes. I have given it a good go for a few years but unless the format improves in some way I think I will have to leave it alone, its an obsession, with Fallout 4 coming out I just want to play the thing! I really wish I didn't get into 3D because going back is going to be very difficult. In an ideal world us 3D lovers should have been catered for.
On a side note I would much rather have better quality 3D vision than a VR headset, but what's the chances of that happening...

Even so, RTS / strategy games will be awesome in VR...

I have have played numerous real-time strategy games but the game in this video looks nothing like any RTS I ever played. Good RTS games are about strategy, tactics, and speed, but not focused on graphics or immersion into a virtual world. I don't even play RTS games in 3D vision because there is little point to it. Some of the most popular RTS games ever made have terrible graphics.
Since some of the 3D fixes or workarounds for Nvidia coding blunders require not to install the Geforce Experience module during driver install, here is another little nail in 3D Vision's coffin:

Totally agree. I also find myself these days with the dilema that if I decide to upgrade my 660 TI videocard is very easy/cheap buying something different from Nvidia. And the monitor is another issue having in mind Nvidia 3D vision to buy it, beacause the high price and the poor options..., also you have to discard some other innovations to have 3D. I feel like victim of having played 3D once, and now I can not enjoy 2D again in the same way I did some years ago. The overall impresion is that the prpoblems you have with Nvidia 3D Vision do not worth it at all, it is a pity but the truth for me. If I had a good friend asking me for advice about to buy Nvidia glasses, I would suggest NO for sure. I think this is a tech specially for people with lots and lots of money that don't esitate to spend a lot in a beast rig to experience something different to the rest of the world..., but that is not my case, I do not plan to buy two GTX 980 TI SLI (not even one at that price).

You're kind of supporting my point more than arguing against it. I was expressing my opinion about that particular aspect of VR not appealing to me, and it being something that I can form an opinion on by simply watching someone else experience it. What I failed to adequately explain in my previous post is this: The same goes for people who haven't tried 3D Vision. They can form an opinion based on seeing someone wearing the glasses in a photo and decide that it's not for them. They have that right. You and I would disagree, and believe that they are depriving themselves of really awesome gaming, but nonetheless, they have that right.
I for one never saw 3D Vision with my own eyes before purchasing the tech. I could only read about it, and from the description decided that it was right for me. I'm so glad I took that chance. So it's not that I'm anti-VR. I'm certainly not, and I'm not trying to be dogmatic about anything. I'm hoping that VR does take the world by storm because I think it will only help to have more stereo 3D options out there. I just remain skeptical that it will be or can be a total replacement for a 3D monitor.

yep its very frustrating. I'll go back to 2D for a bit and think it doesn't seem too bad, see the positives, crisper brighter textures, better performance etc. Then I'll load up Fallout 3 in 3D vision and realise how mind blowingly better it looks and wonder how i'll ever play it again in 2D. really is night and day, a different way of experiencing games, an attack from a deathclaw in the dark is frightening, 2D just cant give that effect. I cant quite describe what my brain loves so much about it. People need to realise 3D gaming is the way forward, its the next step but no one seems to realise it, its like discovering the earth is round but no one is listening!
I'd sink a load more money into it if I thought it would help but I am near the end now to be honest unless there is some kind of official resurgence.

Funny, yet guys like you always come MOAN about wanting that game fixed in 3D or that game fixed in 3D or so on, yet you are one of "those" who help the tech go away...
Tell me of a MAJOR game that was released in the LAST 4 YEARS that we didn't FIX? (Don't start with the Battlefield 4 crap please or some COD version of the yearly re-hashed game).
Have you played Skyrim in 3D Vision?
Have you played Alien Isolation in 3D Vision?
Have you played Dragon Age Inquisition in 3D Vision?
Have you played The Witcher 3 in 3D Vision?
(the list GOES ON).
Oh and BTW, GOOD LUCK playing any of those games in VR or Tridef WITH ALL rendering options turned on (with full shadow, post-process etc support. Oh, wait you can't but sure VR is so awesome cause you are strapped to a freaking helmet).
But noo... you like all the others take things for GRANTED and even if the community supports the tech you ADVISE against it? Why cause you want to bash nvidia? (for what? for making the tech in the first place?)
Trust me I have experimented: I showed people 3D Vision Automatic in NUMEROUS games BY default! and they wanted to "throw up" because it was a "brain-hurting" mess. All I asked was to give me 1 minute and to try again. They said yes (although they expected to see the same mess again), only to be greeted with proper 3D Vision. The EMOTION they put on was Priceless (Next time I'll record it for sure just as a reference). All of them were extremely impressed and wanted to play all games (they started asking about game x,y,z).
So, I don't get it why are people still against 3D Vision and advertising it as a NO?
Maybe we (the fixer community) should pack up and leave. I bet we have other things/code we can do and share. Ofc, the argument is no one is forcing us, which is true! We are doing it because we BELIEVE In IT.
3D Vision is far from 0xDEAD (57005), so at least don't turn potential new player by saying "it sux 'cause nvidia is not doing anything with it." Nvidia is still doing something with it, but you never see it plainly btw.
So, if you can't afford the tech (like you stated) you advise everyone who asks you AGAINST IT? Talking about closed and biased minded...
In any case what are THESE
prpoblems you have with Nvidia 3D Vision
that make it
not worth it at all
???
I am really curious... (If you are talking about modifying a file or copying a couple of files somewhere, You should SELL your PC and go play mobile games or a freaking console). Every time some new player (who didn't do this thing before or just joined the 3D Vision Club) we explain how in details what to do and the 95% of them always succeed (unless is a software/configuration problem we cannot anticipate).
People should not be so "lazy and except everything for granted" and definitely they should not buy a PC for gaming if they don't handle the BASICS (We are in 2015 after all, manipulating files should be trivial for anyone using a PC these days).

All I said is my impression, my opinion, not the big true for everybody in this world. For me this is a great tech with enormous potential, but "for me" it is better not to experience this and continue living with the illusion of 2D. This is not the 1st time I say the same, I have been thinking the same thing for a long time. At the end what matters when gaming is what the brain process, and if you think you are seeing the best possible picture on a 2D monitor, your experience can not be better; that is why we loved so much games made 15 years ago, and today we don't like the same way, just becasue you think you can play something better, as simple as that.
I would like this tech will not stop being supported, because I am thinking to continue playing 3D as long as I have the proper hardware to do so, even if I play old games because it is impossible for me to playe recent ones. I can not go back in time to prevent myself to initiate this kind of experience for the 1st time..., if I could I would prevent it, because this is not good for my pocket, and I think "for me" it is not good for my experience with games.
In fact I am not criticizing the tech, I am criticizing the collateral results because of the circunstances: lot of money (Nvidia is much more expensive than the other company), lot of stuttering unless you spend A LOT (I can, but I don't want to spend so much), lot of lack about official support, lot of restrictions in terms of supported screens because of the license policy of the company, lot of doubts about the future support of the actual hardware (it happened "something" years ago, so it can happen again), etc.
I think my point of view, "for me", is a realistic and constructive point of view, if it is understood properly.
It is cristal clear that it is against nobody in particular... XD

Quite a contradiction there to say you don't want to wear 3D Vision glasses but you are willing to wear a heavier, more uncomfortable, and far more stupid looking VR headset. Also to say you need to experience VR to really get it, but you're unwilling to give 3D Vision the same chance.
Whatever though, I don't really get why people who hate 3D even bother coming to this forum.

Fair enough and some very valid points there;)) I totally agree with this:

I totally understand the feeling! Once you see it... very hard to go back;)) and I bet all others feel the same;) (Probably also why this community is strong and we are also fixing different games in our free time;)) A decade ago I would rather play the damn game even on low settings:)) Now, if there is no 3D I'll not play it at all:)) or we make it work;) ) Still, I believe people should be encouraged to see for themselves if they like it or not;)) But, I totally understand your point of view (the Big Picture) and all I can say is that I kinda agree;) We all wish "times" were different, but unfortunately they are not and we have to do with the best we can;)) Still, at the rate the games are released now-days (you don't have to wait those 2-5 years to get "that" game ^_^) I think experiencing less games in BEST immersion(3D) is better than experiencing lots in lesser(2D). Quality > Quantity;)) But, this is a personal preference and I know not everyone agrees;)
Big thanks for the input:) Again, I apologize if I offended you in any way;) The scope was totally different (as you can see);))

I love 3D vision and i will allways do!
nVidia could never get all of the games working properly (never tried i suppose), but the modders here are having great success.
I'm very happy that nVidia released the second gen lightboost monitors and we could get even better experience.
This "3D vision is dead" topic has allways been around, but then if we look in the past:
The mighty Helix showed up with his dx9 wrapper and changed everything.
Soon after that everybody were crying that newer games are dx11 and fixes won't be possible, then Helix did it with BioShock and then mysteriously disappeared.
Again the future seemed dark, but Eqzitara kept leading the ppl for some time, but unfortunately he gave up as well.
Today we have "3D Migoto"(thanks to Chiri), the OpenGl wrapper (thanks to Helifax) and the shader hackers team is bigger than ever (big thanks to you guys, all we know who you are)!
Now if the hardware future is uncertain, all we need is to have faith and soon or later we will find solution to this problem as well.

Rant against "modern gamers" STARTS.
In any case what are THESE that make it ???

Big thanks for the input:) Again, I apologize if I offended you in any way;) The scope was totally different (as you can see);))
Cheers!

Because some people "Like to see the World Burn" xD or simply they don't want others to be happy for some things;) (Some might call it "Envy", other might call it a different thing... In any case still "A mystery for the Ages" xD)

nVidia could never get all of the games working properly (never tried i suppose), but the modders here are having great success.
