Final Fantasy XIII looks fantastic in 3D Vision - Screenshots

Thank You for Your feedback! @masterotaku: Thank You for the hint! A very interesting fix. Usually in games HUD elements are at screen depth and modders try to push it to depth. In this case it seems to be the contrary ;) As far I can see both fixes have only one VS in common so it should be possible to merge them. @murilladas: I don't have surround so unfortunately I can't fix this issue. I'm sure Helifax knows how to do this. @birthright: I really was very impressed by the art style of the game especially as it was my first Japanese RPG. But regarding technical aspects You should be aware that this game was made for Xbox 360 and PS 3. So the developers used some tricks You especially will notice when You play the game in S3D. Many parts of the background are not 3D models but just painted on the skybox. But as there often is a significant distance between the 3D foreground and the skybox (which is at correct depth) it didn't bother me and felt quite natural.

Just wanted to tell that Final Fantasy XIII-2 was released yesterday and is very similar to FF XIII regarding S3D. Just using my fix for FF XIII ( http://helixmod.blogspot.de/2014/11/final-fantasy-xiii.html ) already allows You to use some of it functions (convergence presets, HUD transparency). Currently I'm working on fix for some fog issues (still in Bresha ruins). I also would like to push HUD and menus to depth (as they were in FF XIII out of the box) but I don't know how to do that (they use the same shader with identical CRCs as in FF XIII but are 2D now....). The good news: with Helixmod a "transmogrification" is possible: You can reduce Mogry to a small firefly (which still indicates treasures etc.) but doesn't hurt Your eyes ^^ As it will take some days/weeks to play through the game I will offer a WIP version soon.
I have made a helixmod fix for this game and will try to post it in the blog. Until then I will offer it here: Features: - Halos caused by some water surfaces and fog fixed - Depth and convergence presets per hotkey: 7 - exploration, 8 - fight/cut scenes, 9 - close ups in cut scenes. You can customize the settings by pressing the hotkey, adjust convergence/depth and save it with Ctrl+F7. - Toggle light shafts intensity with v (original/reduced/off) - Toggle HUD in fights with p (opaque/transparent/off) Installation: - Rename the attached "jpg" file to zip and extract the contents into directory that contains the game's EXE file ffxiiiimg.exe (...\FINAL FANTASY XIII\white_data\prog\win\bin\) - if Helixmod doesn't work when the game is started by steam or the launcher restart the game and try it again. If it still doesn't work: 1. make a shortcut of the exe file 2. right click on shortcut -> properties 3. in Target line : "~~~\win\bin\ffxiiiimg.exe" -fullscreenmode (-VoiceJPMode for Japan audio) Additional Notes: I often got "Appilcation load error ..." when I started the game. I had to exit steam completely (not only minimize to tray icon) and start FF XIII again. As Helixmod often didn't work after the first start I had to restart the game. Then everything was fine. The fix is compatible with GeDoSaTo. I have played through the complete story and hope that I could find most of the issues. There are still some distortion effects during fights that look strange (similar to motion blur, etc.). But they are only visible for a split second so it's almost impossible to catch them. On the other hand they are not very annoying as You hardly can see them. Here You can find my gallery with some screenshots: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/3d4dd/album/5455341fd475feaf21000084/ The screenshots of the fights I have made by using the option of my fix to turn off the HUD. The reason for this option was the fact that I had to use a god mode trainer to be able to rush through the game within only a few days. So in many fights I only had to press A, enjoy the spectacular graphics and turn off the HUD ;)
Thank you very much for this fix. I have played Final Fantasy since I was kid and to get to play this and hopefully XII-2 in 3D vision is a real treat

@cookiemaster27: Strange... I had no issue like this. Only sometimes Helixmod didn't get active (before the December patch) so I had to use the workaround with the shortcut as described in the blog (http://helixmod.blogspot.de/2014/11/final-fantasy-xiii.html). Maybe You can find a solution by searching the forum for topics about 3DVision not being activated in other games. @deathlycold: Thank You :) I'm just finishing my fix for FF XIII-2. It took more time than I have expected as it was quite complicated to fix the 2D elements of the HUD (at least for me). So before these basic elements were fixed I didn't want to offer a WIP version of the fix. Meanwhile I have rushed through the story and only have to check some of the optional areas to see if there a issues. I think I can offer the final version for the fix soon. Regarding the quality of the S3D experience in FF XIII-2 I think it is better than in FF XIII. There are less 2D-skyboxes used for the background but it often is also modeled in 3D. In addition to this almost every cut scene is rendered with the game engine and is not a plain 2D video. And in the battles I could observe less distortion effects than in FF XIII.

Thanks for your work on this, 3d4dd. I enjoyed FFXIII on PS3 back when it was new, but the sequels ended up passing me by. With the chance to play XIII-2 now in 3D, I'm glad I passed then. Downloading now!

I have also made an UPDATE for my FF XIII fix. After I have made my HUD fix for FF XIII-2 I also had a look at FF XIII again. I discovered that the HUD and menus in FF XIII are out of the box much deeper than the depth values I have chosen for FF XIII-2. So I have decided to adjust the depth in FF XIII to my settings for FF XIII-2 and made an update for the fix.
