I submitted this issue to Nvidia support nearly a week ago and have heard nothing back, so I'm guessing they're stumped. I can't find any similar problem report anywhere, so if anyone has any idea what might be causing this or can point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful- cheers.
Hi,
I'm having an unusual problem with your 3D vision kit, to which I have so far found no similar issue reported on the internet (including in your knowledge base). I purchased your 3D vision kit, along with an "Acer GD245HQ 3D monitor" and a "Point of View GTX 480" graphics card. Importantly, all this equipment has run flawlessly until about a week ago and all applications (including games) that I am currently experiencing problems with have previously run perfectly with the 3D vision kit for several weeks before this problem was first encountered.
The problem appears to be a resolution/graphics rendering issue. The problem was first noted with "Flatout: Ultimate Carnage". On starting the game with 3D vision enabled, after with application becomes full screen and the glasses become active, the resolution and graphics quality become very poor. The game believes it is running in 1080p at max settings, but all details appear pixelated and anti-aliasing is non-existent: all straight edges appear very jagged and fonts that are fairly small such as in the microsoft guide interface are almost illegible. On exiting the game the problem persits even after the glasses have deactivated- windows desktop appears in the same poor quality as in the game- very blurry with jagged edges with almost illegible text. It is very strange because although the poor visual quality would at first appear to be a resolution issue, all desktop items and text are at the correct size for 1080p, but look appalling (if resolution were dropping, one would expect items etc to increase in size on the display). On entering display settings within windows the resolution appears to be at 1080p. To correct the problem, the resolution slider must be dragged to a number other than 1920x1080 (in order to enable the "apply" button) and back to 1920x1080 before hitting apply. The problem is then resolved until any program which utilises full-screen 3D vision is initiated.
This exact problem occurs with any application which uses 3D vision, including the nvidia 3D vision set-up wizard (image included). It occurs with all games and they look terrible in 3D at all resolutions and all result in the residual problem after exiting. On disabling 3D vision or running a game in windowed mode (in which 3D vision cannot operate) the applications look perfectly crisp in 1080p- this is also how they used to look in 3D vision before this problem began.
I've included several examples of this as attached files. Pictures were taken by camera as print-screen function gives images which appear normal after the problem is rectified- this suggests it is the way the image is display, rather than output from the graphics card.
I have tried uninstalling 3D drivers, all my display drivers, monitor drivers - reinstalling drivers supplied on CD with the graphics card and 3D vision- tried the latest drivers which were released in the past few weeks. I have tried launching all these applications in various resolutions, including in the 1680 x 1050 as recommended by nvidia (although all these used to work fine in 3D with 1080p settings before the issue)- different resolutions give the same problem, dropping back to desktop shows everything at the right "size" but horribly fuzzy until the resolution is "re-applied". Finally I have tried repeating everything just described on a completely separate OS (vista 64) with exactly the same result.
My graphics card runs flawlessly without 3D vision and I never experience these poor visual quality issues, the problem is triggered when 3D vision initiates (i.e. the lenses of the glasses darken). This suggests the problem is related to the 3D kit, or an incompatibility between the kit and the graphics card when 3D initiates; but as explained, everything worked fine previously and the problem began all of a sudden, with no driver updates or anything taking place around the time the problem was first experienced (computer was not connected to internet for a week either side of when the problem began.

It's clear from the screen shots that the vertical resolution is not 1080 in the 3dvision on shots.
What's not clear to me is why this would be.
I'd check the monitor scaling options.
Does it do the same thing with 3d vision disabled if you enter a 120hz mode?
If you have a spare dvi cable, you might want to try that, although I'd be surprised if that were the issue.

Have you tried uninstall drivers - safe mode then run drivercleaner - reboot and install from latest cd version?
Have you got another dual link dvi cable you can try or even the same kit on some other pc?
Failing all that it could be a faulty monitor :(

Have you tried opening control panel, clicking on '3d vision settings' (not on my computer so not sure the exact wording). Then click on the test 3d vision bit where you can change the resolution and hertz of 3d vision applications. My guess is it is set to a low res and the apply to all games is ticked. Slide the slider up to 1080p and untick the box and hopefully all is good. That's my guess tuds.

I think it has something to do with microsoft silverlight. I downloaded it for the 3d racebuddy live event. I first encountered your problem when I was opening a video in netflix right after I downloaded the 3D silverlight, it went all flickery and fuzzy.

not sure if you guys have already sorted this problem out but I had been having a similar problem eg playing a steam game and the game looks ok but you look at the steam menu and everuthing is fuzzy and you can't read the text etc.
found this solution on: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=200371
"You're probably using a DVI-SL cable instead of a DVI-DL cable. For 3D Vision or 120Hz, you need a DVI-DL cable (it should come with your monitor.)" - thanks to Tomv
have done a couple of quick tests and this seems to have fixed my problems so you may want to check the cables as well

Any help would be massively appreciated.

What's not clear to me is why this would be.
I'd check the monitor scaling options.
Does it do the same thing with 3d vision disabled if you enter a 120hz mode?
If you have a spare dvi cable, you might want to try that, although I'd be surprised if that were the issue.

Have you got another dual link dvi cable you can try or even the same kit on some other pc?
Failing all that it could be a faulty monitor :(

not sure if you guys have already sorted this problem out but I had been having a similar problem eg playing a steam game and the game looks ok but you look at the steam menu and everuthing is fuzzy and you can't read the text etc.
found this solution on: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=200371
"You're probably using a DVI-SL cable instead of a DVI-DL cable. For 3D Vision or 120Hz, you need a DVI-DL cable (it should come with your monitor.)" - thanks to Tomv
have done a couple of quick tests and this seems to have fixed my problems so you may want to check the cables as well
