Thinking about joining in on the 3D fun.
  2 / 3
I have a GTX 580 and ASUS VG278H. The new and old driver is very different. The old driver probably don't support 3D Vision monitors. The old driver is very old and does not have profiles for recent games. They have very different capabilities and restrictions. 3D Vision supports very few displays (exluding 3DTV Play). Common code ancestry does not make them the same. Valve's source Engine and the Quake 3 Engine is not the same even though they share code. My screen was supposed to support side-by-side but this only works in the newest version with the latest firmware. Anyway this leaves hdmi 1.4a as output but this is only possible in tridef using AMD hardware. Nvidia bought 3dfx, and I started with a Voodoo 2 so I can't see how you can be around longer than that. The old stereodriver is currently abandoned so is this what you consider being burned? I've had 3D Vision for two years but and I can't think of anything that have gotten worse. Because most games don't work in 3D this is what is expected. If a 3D Game stops working it is usually because of a patch. As I've had terrible experience with tridef and my system is based on 3D Vision I have to say I'm really happy. 3D Vision just works, so far I've never gotten tridef to work.

Are you serious? Wouldn't the "old" drivers support new games and displays if nvidias intended to? Oh btw, they do. Now they're a by choice a proprietary stripped version which they call 3d-vision. Some amount of evolution by time and a different name doesn't justify to say that it's a different software. The computerenvironment changes by time and so has the software. The stripping choices are all nvidias and therefore in my opinion nvidia can not be trusted. Is this irrational? This is my experience with nvidia. Why support them? Why tell others to support them? And no: I started with a riva tnt (a tad later than the voodoo2 yes). But: I did play in stereoscopic 3d on my nextcoming card, the mx440. Then came 5900ultra, 6800ultra, 7900gtx until i got the infamous gtx8800 piece of shit... I'd like to think that i was a good customer until then... And no, i don't know how to fix eventual problems with hdmi1.4 and nvidiacards.

as a three-year owner and near-daily user of 3d Vision: don't buy nvidia's 3d kit. Just don't do it. Buy an AMD card and use your own TV, or wait for the oculus rift.

My last AMD Graphics card (5850 died after only 2 years). Without tridef it appears game support is extremely limited. I can find no good reason to replace Graphics card, monitor, buy even more 3D glasses as that would be far more expensive than I can afford. I don't own a TV and they appear far too big to use as a computer monitor. It would be like sitting in the front row at the Cinema (and also very pixelated). I'm not saying that 3D Vision has the most games supported or anything like that. We are not talking binary here, if you Think tridef is good does not make 3D Vision bad. What is the source of this hatred and is really Nvidia's forum the best place to hate Nvidia? As very few games work perfectly in 3D I end up playing mostly in 2D as a result. I have a hard time believing that any other solution can wipe out all of these problems. When so few games work perfectly in 3D it becomes far to easy to mention a game that doesn't work. Crosshair, mouse pointer, hud, shadows, reflections etc.

Full idp 3D with a 110+ FOV, with no flicker or dimming effect, and head tracking. Sounds good to me.

Please allow me to add a parable about hate. I have a very good friend who will never forgive Exxon for fouling Prince William Sound in Alaska, by the leaking Valdez. He has vowed to never give Exxon another dime. This hate is all consuming and cannot be reasoned with. I understand it, but I do not agree with it. The problem is that this hate leads to personal problems. Running out of gas, because the only closest station is Exxon. Paying higher prices, because "anything is better than Exxon." This hate impacts his friends and family. I've been with him when we ran out of gas. I've had to drive an extra 90 minutes out of our way to avoid the hated Exxon. Of course, Exxon has not and will not notice, care, or change in any aspect. Here's the thing- the hate only hurts him and his friends. Think about it.

I'm of the impression that 3D Vision is here to stay. Just taking their dedication to PhysX and SLI. Nvidia has bought the technology behind SLI, PhysX and 3D Vision. In all three cases they have stopped support for the original users but have not dropped support for their own modified incarnations. I'm analyzing my gaming pattern since 2004 ranking by hours played. It is pretty clear that I have finished almost no single-player games the last 10 years. I find that 3D flaws are amplified when playing competitive multiplayer games. I challenge you to find great 3D games in this list starting at the top going down. I doubt you'll find many above the 10h mark. We clearly have different gaming preferences I'm just saying that ignoring all 2D games seems like a stupid idea from my perspective. I'm not calling you stupid but I would be stupid if I stopped playing my favorite games just because they don't work in s-3D. 500+ World of Warcraft Counter-Strike 350 Team Fortress 2 Counter-Strike: Source 250 Anno 2070 150 Trials 2 100 Guild Wars Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II 40 Call of Duty 2 20 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Natural Selection 2 10 Star Wars: The Old Republic Borderlands GunBound Borderlands 2 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box Poker Night at the Inventory The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Batman: Arkham City™ Left 4 Dead Rune Day of Defeat: Source 5 Grand Theft Auto IV Left 4 Dead 2 Deus Ex: Human Revolution Resident Evil 5 Unreal Tournament 3: Black Edition DiRT 3 Alien Swarm Portal Day of Defeat FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

Even though I'm sad about current Nvidia support, I would still recommend 3d vision. You can probably find 100-200 games already working with it, so surely you will find lots of games you can enjoy. This year has been fantastic for 3d thanks to Helix, and I'm pretty sure we will still get 10-20 games working reasonably well in 3d on 2013. However if anyone's looking for a future proof product, look somewhere else, supported 3d ready games are non-existant now and the lack of dx10-11 wrapper will make 3d vision stagnant in 2 or 3 years. Still, real auto-stereoscopic TVs are about 3-4 years away, so maybe we'll see a 3d vision comeback by then.

I agree that Oculus Rift is the future, though it'a going to be a very expensive one, since basically it's required for every game to work at steady 60fps with dual rendering, and that's no joke in terms of hardware. On the other hand it will be hardware agnostic so now we can check AMD cards as well.
