HDMI1.4 checkerboard for all! 3D Vision software fix here!
  15 / 20
It would be nice to see 3DTV play support Side-by-Side half resolution over HDMI, since new plasmas don't support checkerboard.

960 x 1080 has more pixels than 1280 x 720.

Also 960 anamorphic stretch to 1920 is a much cleaner scale than 720p to 1080p.

It's also worth noting that SbS is probably the most widely supported frame compatible format across the HDTVs market.

I'd much rather game using SbS than 720p. Obviously checkerboard is superior to either, but so many new TVs don't support checkerboard.

Actually, SBS and CB are identical visually and performance, I doubt if Nvidia will ever support either. People with LGs or Samsung HDTV can convert their crappy 3DTV Play software to 3D Vision and game in native resolution.

Hi, i'm sorry if these questions have already been asked.

I was disappointed when I connected my new samsung 40D8000 to 3d play and it was only 720p, but very happy to seen this mod, but

1) how do I download it? I can't see an attachment in the first post?
2) do I need to buy a 3d vision kit and therefore software for this to work, or can I skip that step as I assume I would just use the glasses supplied with the samsung.
3) I read that 2011 samsungs doesn't have CB, but I think mine does, with exception of 2d>3d, there are 6 options one of which is image of a guy broken up into several squares.

Any help would be great, I'm new to this.

Cheers,

H

You have a 2011 Samsung Plasma which does not support Checkerboard.
This will not work for you. Only 2010 Samsung Plasmas and 2011 Samsung LEDs will do.

Hi, it's a LED so I'm in luck, ordered a vision kit so hopefully I'll be able to try it out in a few days.

Guys you must understand, the high visitor count isnt because checkerboard is any good.

Checkerboards are a half resolution compression scheme, but it works better on DLP TV than on flatscreens. I also read it works better on still pictures than in motion. Other half res compression was found to be better in motion.

The high visitor count is because hdmi 1.4 as interconnection failed on nearly all fronts. Now roller, your band aid stuff is only that good as the displays,

that are hideously dark (plasma), that are close to extinction , LCD will be slowly replaced too. These are not green technologies and first and foremost not GOOD.

Whats the funniest when people over "avsforum.com" go to lengths like " my 3DTV is so bright , its autocompensating, any brighter it would be dangerous lol"

think about it, this checkerboard stuff and that stuff is almost the same category when it comes to embedded LULZ.

This is stuff thats counter-intuitive I agree, but ... /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The exact opposite is true.

BTW, how many games did you say you've played in CB on a Plasma/LED? 15? 20?.....more? It must be a big number because of course you would never tell people that CB looks like crap if you've never seen CB, that would be dishonest.

Roller11, I am hoping I can get your attention. I am ready to buy a new display (55"-65"). Plasma TV's are definitely not bright enough for my taste. I was hoping you could recommend the best possible display for 3D Bluray and overall picture quality for 2D Windows desktop. I have a brand new 4th generation Purevideo HD display adapter "GT545". I pretty much never play 3D games. Originally, I had my heart set on a Samsung D8000 55" since I really like the picture on it. I have never considered using DLP until I read a little bit about DLP technology. I've never seen DLP in person.

I have some questions I hope you dont mind answering:

1) Doesnt DLP offer color reproduction and viewing angle similar to plasma, but with the brightness and dynamic contrast of an LCD? If I dont mind the size of a modern Mistubishi DLP TV, wouldnt it be the best companion to Nvidia 3D Vision in respect to 3D Bluray Movies and general 2D Windows desktop colors/picture? Would the Samsung D8000 be a better or worse choice in respect to what I want?

2) There's very little talk about dual-link DVI capable TVs with 120Hz. What advantages/disadvantages are there between dual-link DVI, HDMI 1.4, HDMI 1.3 in respect to ease setting up and 3D bluray picture quality.

3. Would I want 1920x1080@30fps per eye or 1920x1080@60 per eye checkerboard?

I basically want the most hassle free way to setup the best picture quality for bluray. I dont mind using the monitor.inf file. I dont want to make a hardware hack unless it's absolutely necessary for what I want. I dont mind buying the Nvidia 3D Vision emitter for $160.

Thanks in advance,
MKANET

FYI - This works for LG Plasma 60PZ550. 3D Vision Checkerboard with 1920x1080x60 is much better than 3DTV play in my opinion. I just wish there was a way to get the HDMI audio to output more than stereo, when connecting the HDMI directly from the PC to the TV. After allot of searching, I found that it has to due with the EDID file from the TV. Tried the EDID override from AVS forum, but can't really get it working with my receiver which only has HDMI pass through, not decoding.

I previously tried the Alienware AW2310, but returned it due to intolerable ghosting. If anyone is interested - there is almost no ghosting with this panel. I watch 3D movies all the time and have played a few XBOX 360 3D games, but now I plan to mainly use 3D Vision with 1920x1080x60 checkerboard.

Thanks for all your hard work Roller11. Now just maybe, Nvidia will officially support Checkerboard.

Hi,
I notice you are using a lg 3d plasma, can you confirm that there is more ghosting/colour bug in checkerboard?
I tried a pz550 and that allso had a colourbug in checkerboard only.
