hm....damn...i have 1 week left to send the rift S back .... ^^ Is this thing supported by common VR games/platforms ???
Problem is there is no stock right now. I talked to HP and they think it will be about 3 weeks before you can buy it but it's at least good news that it finally showed up on Canadian website today....so it's coming. I would return Rift S if Resolution is priority for you and the same game did a tracking test and it's better then all the oculus fanboys would lead you to believe. IT's only 2 cameras but they are almost as good as Rift S 5 cameras.
NVIDIA is making perfect sense. They gave 3D a shot, it failed to take off, and they kept it on life support for several years - hoping it would make a comeback. It didn't. Time to drop the failure so they don't have to keep supporting code that's barely used. Throw in the rise of VR/AR as a viable alternative (and, often times, massive improvement) to 3D Vision, and they would have to be crazy to keep it in.
I call bullshit on this. It likely wasn't costing them that much to keep it in the driver. They haven't done any significant work with the code since the inclusion of CM years ago. VR being superior at this point is a good joke. This board is also the second most used board on the site outside the main driver threads. Also I still think this thread should just go away. Personally I am hoping this method stays viable but I bet it won't. I just hope that it's something they didn't want to mention because its not officially supported but remains an option going forward. I will not hold my breath

Every time they release new drivers, the 3D Vision parts need to be tested. If some new way to hack code shows up, the 3D Vision code has to be checked out and possibly fixed. Having the code in there means any new people they hire have to at least be vaguely aware of it so there's a training cost. Whenever people download drivers, they get the 3D Vision stuff even though the VAST majority don't want it. None of those are big costs at all but, as the years roll on, they do add up.
VR being superior at this point is a good joke.
Hardly. VR does full immersion. 3D Vision, while realistic, is stuck in the little box in front of you. Some function will change parameters and BOOM, game over.

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

If your new to VR and haven't yet tried supersampling @ 2.0 I highly recommend you try it. For Oculus, you need the Oculus tray tool and can set supersampling to 2.0 for each game individually or globally. With Steam VR games, there is a supersampling section with similar options built right in. It greatly reduces screen door and increases perceived resolution. 3D is alive and well in VR. For owners of the Steam version of Doom 3, there is a free mod out that makes it one of the best VR games out. Fallout 4 and Skyrim are brilliant in VR but all require a liberal amount of supersampling to make it look good.

I hope the 3Dmigoto team comes up with a 3D Driver that's hardware independent. The bottom line it would cost nothing for NVidia to continue to include the 3D Vision driver in the driver package PhysX is included and hardly used. I supported NVidia since that first GPU NV1 (1994) and always purchased the best video card for 3D Vision. I purchased two RTX 2080ti not for ray tracing but for 3D Vision.
