Is it me or does Fallout 4 feels less 3D immersive than Skyrim?
I'd agree with that a bit. I used the depth hack with my projector and find mid to long range doesn't feel as great as some other games. Close proximity feels fine though but in the wide open spaces I feel it's not much better than 2d. Might try some suggestions mentioned here.
I had some major performance issues but these are pretty much ok now if I accept I will not get constant 60fps, which seems a compromise that must be made with 3D.

this game is fantastic ! Since one mounth that i play it , I've never felt so immersive in a game. It's very hard to find the sweet spot about convergence and FOV in this type of FPS , but once found (on my projo, fDefault1stPersonFOV = 90 and convergence 78), Fallout 4 is the most beautiful game I played in 3D.
Thank you modders! Thank you Bethesda for providing us with such complex and intense open world (GTA 5 and Witcher 3 seem very boring in comparison).

They should all be able to look the same. If your setting the 3D for realistic scale, what i would do is try to get some common values remembered. After many years of 3D, i learned to streamline the setting of my 3D for each game by doing this: Start new game, with my glasses off, pick something from the environment that should be at maximum separation, like the peak of a mountain or something at near maximum human stereo perception of about 240 meters away. Anything that makes it easy to measure. I measure the distance between the two images and set it's separation to my IPD. That sets the further point in the 3D spectrum, then i simply set the convergence till everything else in front of me looks correct. You may be able to go higher in separation on a projector since you are further away from the screen.
Based on that, what i would recommend is measuring the separation of something in the far distance in Fallout 4 with your current settings, then apply that same amount of separation for far objects in Witcher and other games.

problem of language : i changed "annoying" with "boring" . i'm thinking with french words and the meaning may be confusing :)
I've no problem with 3d in GTA 5 and Witcher 3 (it's more easy to set up a confortable convergence with non-1stperson game) . But thx anyway for your explication .

Ah i think i know what you mean. Metro 2033 was that way for my i think, lots of actual 3D geometry that was amazing to have in 3D. Surprised you say Witcher 3 was boring that way though (i haven't played it yet ).

Both GTA5 and Witcher 3 are not boring... Trust me... He either has either no long time experience with Stereoscopy or had wrong settings...
Then again from my POV Fallout 4 as a game is boring opposed to Witcher 3 and GTA5 (and a lot of people will agree). I think "tastes can't be discussed" :) Depends what that "open world" means to you... If you are interested in Story...Fallout 4 is the worst Fallout game to date IMO and the world is full of "nothingness" ...

Yeah I can't see how fallout 4 is boring as a game, I been living in this thing for months. I really think it's the way some people play. The tools are there to do what you like, any game mechanic you can think of, it's just using these things and putting the time in. When these guys release games I feel like I don't need to buy a game for two years. With modding on top of all that you make it the game you want it to be. Calling it empty is weird to me, I am bumping into things all the time, there is almost too much there. It's not perfect, the dialog could be better and characters etc but people don't focus enough on what this game does well. They built a world for Christ sake lol.
The 3D is hit and miss for me though, on my 1080 I still get very choppy performance in the cities, so if I can deal with that around 70% of the game is playable. The effect is great, it's just the performance....

in ini., i put fDirShadowDistance=5000 (medium is 3000 , and high is 14000) to have a good balance , and in city exterior, i have average 30 fps with cpu oc 42GHz but no stuttering (with your i5 2500, it's too hard i suppose) .
I'm thinking to upgrade CPU to reach 5 GHz . i wonder if it's worth it: a question for experienced gamer .
Concerning the game itself , every minute is a journey without the security of your save in survival mode (like in dayz ), and the graphism ... i'm impressed by the complexity of modelization of the world (weapons, armor etc..) in 3D .

I'd agree with that a bit.
perhaps , you're using the convergence provided by the fix (convergence = 28, 40) which makes the game really flat ...

If you compare a game from Bethesda and EA you will realize the big difference in depth. I noticed the exact same thing when I first saw Skyrim.
Yeah I can't see how fallout 4 is boring as a game
The term that describes FO4's weakness better is "monotonous". One of the most monotonous games ever was Far Cry 2. After 10% playing youve experienced what the other 90% of the game would be like. You get a target on the map, you drive there, take every moving thing out, you get your rough diamonds and the cycle repeats.
Its the same with FO4. You have a "big boss/target" you eliminate, loot, go back to your base and the cycle repeats. You end up seeing the same shit lying around everywhere you loot. Compare this to a game like Tomb Raider and your perspective might change. Everything is unique in TR. Bethesda needs to move away from this monotony gameplay. Its this monotony that makes the interest fade.
Yeah, the world is definitely spectacular! The mechanics also pretty good. But being reminded about FarCry2's never ending mission and monotonous gameplay leaves scars on this title. A game that keeps you interested is a good game. A game that keeps you curious about whats gonna happen next. Good modern games also adds some puzzles to make you think. Running around blowing things up in slow motion gets boring and monotonous.
Bethesda could focus a bit more on their "cut scenes" and diversity, IMO.
Not that Im against this game. Still playing it. Still lots of fun. But Im at that point again, similar to FO3, where I just want to get it finished. With games like TR and Mass Effect I never wanted it to end.

I see what you mean, but the formula you descripe, goes for just about every open world title !
And thats why you prefer TR and ME, unfortunatly open world games can get a bit tedious sometimes !
I waited allmost a year to play Just Cause 3, because it was unplayable at first, and when it finally was playable, I loved the game with it's gorgeous graphics and DHR's great fix !
But.. after a rather short time it allso became very monotonous and boring, and I did quit the game halfway through !!
The reason why I love Bethesdas games is, on the contrary to you, that theres no cutscenes to spoil the imersive gameplay, only thing I hate about Fallout 4 is the settlements and all that goes with it :P

BINGO! You hit the spot there!
@Blacksmith56:
Not necessarily... Some games that are Open World STILL have this:
- Witcher 3 is an Example
- SWTOR is an Example (although you would say is a MMO - I say is more of a hybrid)
- FarCry Primal is also a GOOD example (and does it way better than FO4)
Hell even Skyrim DID better than FO4...
(The story in FO4 is save this settlement and build it. I ask... to what end?:)
What's the STORY in FO4? almost non-existant... The reason people refer to Mass Effect (and other games alike) is simple... Story and EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT! For me, FO4 provides NONE (ZERO). I still think FO1, FO2 and FO3: New Vegas to be the best games in the series! (FO4 provides NOTHING except a "world to roam" grind & repeat). Then again FO3: New Vegas wasn't made by Bethesda was it? (Obsidian made it... Same goes for KOTOR2... if people know what I am referring to)...
Hell Dragon Age: Inquisition, even Dragon Age 2 is MORE fun than Fallout 4 (is another HYPED game WITH NO TRUE SUBSTANCE)....
Still FO4 is an awesome game to "loose time in it;)" But you can't compare it with other games! Where MEANING...well has a meaning;) ^_^ (here is none)

You say that but I don’t find FO4 monotonous at the moment after sinking a few hundred hours into it. I find that approaching missions in different ways keeps it fresh, I don’t get that cycle feeling personally. I use different weapons and other mods, have also got into survival which ramps things up. There is a way to just plough though stuff if you like a certain gameplay style, so I can see why it would get samey from that respect. I’m sure it will get old eventually, any game does? Skyrim did and I got sick of the samey locations but the thing is I sunk about 800 hours into the game so no wonder! I probably got 40 hours at most out of Tomb Raider, it was good but I kind forgot about it. Fallout 3 and 4 are alive and well, I will probably always go back to them. Its the immersion as well, I kind of live in these games lol
I guess its about what you look for in a game. But I just find the blanket term, “Bethesda game are boring” to be a bit unfair, not everyone agrees and I believe there are solid facts that counter that statement. Its got its faults so I am not a blind fan boy, I just find the positives outweigh the negatives.

BINGO! You hit the spot there!
@Blacksmith56:
Its a good point and other games probably do fair better with story, but they probably don't compare with Fallout 4 in other ways. When I am in the mood for that type of game play Witcher 3 no where near hits the spot, so I wouldn't rate it as better by a long shot personally.

The 3D is hit and miss for me though, on my 1080 I still get very choppy performance in the cities, so if I can deal with that around 70% of the game is playable. The effect is great, it's just the performance....

I'm thinking to upgrade CPU to reach 5 GHz . i wonder if it's worth it: a question for experienced gamer .
Concerning the game itself , every minute is a journey without the security of your save in survival mode (like in dayz ), and the graphism ... i'm impressed by the complexity of modelization of the world (weapons, armor etc..) in 3D .

perhaps , you're using the convergence provided by the fix (convergence = 28, 40) which makes the game really flat ...
