VorpX vs. 3D vision fixes? Can we get 3D vision fix's working with VorpX?
4 / 7
Any stereo heuristics configuration 3D-Vision may use won't work with vorpX, it has its own system for that. The one thing that really makes a lot of sense are altered versions of game shaders, which I consider a no-go to do directly. Shader code is property of game developers, distributing altered versions opens a can of worms for a commercial product that I do not want to deal with. Otherwise a system for shader replacements would have been put into place a long time ago.
However, my current thinking in that regard is providing you with an open source addon that can do it. Ideally in a way that your existing shader replacements can be used. If that proves unfeasible then at least one that allows you to create similar shader replacement fixes. What you make of that would be up to you, but I think it's worth a shot.
Don't expect this tomorrow though.

Ralph, I appreciate that you're a one-man show and like to work independently. However, you will likely find that people from this community such as DarkStarSword, bo3b, Helifax, and others, have a great depth of knowledge, who might be able to greatly aid you, at least in making known what VorpX needs to be able to achieve - not hinder you.
Generally speaking, it's a very good business proposition - the shaderhackers can potentially do the heavy lifting, supported perhaps via donations (or a price per fix business model), while you will reap the monetary rewards for increased VorpX purchases, as long as VorpX development supports, and keeps an open ear to the S3D community and its needs.
A symbiotic future is potentially very bright indeed, if we all listen to each other...
This part just comes off pretty distasteful....
Agreed those people can speak for themselves.
No one asked to even be mentioned nor volunteered into this "good business proposition"
where someone else reaps monetary rewards for increase VorpX purchases while the shaderhackers you mention just work to keep users happy for the sake of 3D?
Very distasteful.....

At which point did I insinuate
shaderhackers you mention just work to keep users happy for the sake of 3D?
?
Frankly, the model you are now apparently against is the exact model that has been in place for the entirety of 3D Vision's history - shaderhackers did all the work, while nVidia made all the real money. At one point, there was even shaderhacker discussion of not asking for donations.
I am proposing the opposite: I personally feel it's about time our hard working superheroes make some money, especially from the thankless lurkers who outnumber us forum participants probably at least 10:1 - they deserve, nay - IMHO /need/, to be compensated.
All else being equal, would you rather not VorpX replace 3D Vision now that it is dead? 3DV is a commercial product that we all paid through the nose for. Do you expect to get VorpX for free?
The world works on Money, my friend. The primary aim for any for-profit company is to make money. The reason people go to a job is money. 3DV was cancelled because of money. VorpX was started because of Money. And, as Bo3b has kindly candidly put it: the new development of any 3DV driver based inside the community is /not/ happening, because of... yep, you guessed it: Money.
Money is the elephant in the room, and we need to discuss it frankly and candidly. I am sorry that you find it "distasteful", but this is the real world - little worth its salt is ever free.
The bottom line is that Ralph is free to charge whatever he wants for VorpX, and our dear shaderhackers are free to charge whatever they want for their fixes/middleware, either based on the 3D Vision driver or VorpX driver.
-- They are in full control of their involvement, or none if they do not wish it. We get the ultimate choice: a working S3D driver and fixes/middleware for price $X; we can choose to buy it at that price, or walk away if we don't like it.
Everybody gets all the choice they want.
Everybody also gets to walk away if they want.
Both the shaderhackers and Ralf also get to make money for their hard work. Fair is fair -- I don't understand your nor eqzitara's point that introducing newcomer Ralph to some of our shaderhacker friends and proposing a way forward is somehow signing them up for anything - they can choose to talk and cooperate with each other, or not - it's up to them.
The alternative is that 3DV dies, we slowly die with it, as does the tech and the community.
Mate, it's easy to criticise people's solutions. It's more difficult to come up with ideas regarding how we can all exist and win together.
If you have a better solution, then please do propose it - we are here to listen :)

Just to clarify my stance on any business opportunities someone may see here: I'm willing to help you enhance games like you are doing for 3D-Vision, but I definitely will not be involved in any commercial activity connected to distributing altered shader code.

Thank you for the manner in which you are approaching this, in so far as just wanting to help out simply for the sake of it. It's very good of you. If over time, a solution does in fact prove feasible using your proposed open source addon, then as an entirely voluntary 'thank you' on my part, I'll look to doing you the courtesy of purchasing a separate version of VorpX for a rig that's actually VR ready.
VorpX Version 0.9.1.0 beta, circa 2014, appears to be slightly outdated on my current rig.

AFAIK, it comes with a two PC activation limit. At least it did as far as I recall when I checked the FAQ several years ago.

According to Vorpx forums VorpX allows you to install the software on additional computers in the same household all that's require is to sent a request which is build into the software.

@Turafur
The best thing about VR, can also be the worst thing, in so far as it does completely cut you off from your surroundings, and is fairly anti-social when you do have company. The great thing about 3D Vision using a flat screen or DLP projector is that it manages to maximize to the fullest extent possible, the sense of immersion, but you're still available to others around you and are generally aware of what's going on. On balance, I reckon that there's room for both.

I don't think this really belongs here, but the two activations rule exists to allow dual use e.g. on a desktop and a laptop pc. There is no actual limit for consecutive activations in case you buy a new PC.
At some point there will be a paid update though. Almost six years of free updates is an unusually long time already.

Understood....I mean thinking about it I've owned 2d pancake Fallout 4 and Skyrim since release...then dropped another $60 each on the VR versions. Meanwhile you gave us "As close to native VR as it will ever be Metro Exodus" for free along with several other newer titles since my $40 spent in 2015.

You guys that just bought it are going to have to re-buy it.
However, my current thinking in that regard is providing you with an open source addon that can do it. Ideally in a way that your existing shader replacements can be used.
