3DTV Play - Playstation 3D Display 24" Support?
  13 / 18
I just bought the PS3 3DTV last night. I only use it as a computer monitor for my GATEWAY FX desktop with GeForce GTX 560 Ti. I just updated my nvidia driver to 301.42, and I'm able to setup 3D on the tv. The stereoscopic 3D display type say 3D Vision Discover, and I'm able to view the stereoscopic 3D test properly at 1920x1080. I just cant seem to play any games in 3D...

do you have nvidia 3d tvplay registered?

does your "setup stereoscopic 3d" box looke like this:

or is your "change 3d lasersight" and "set keyboard shortcuts" boxes greyed out?

if greyed out, AND you have 3d tvplay registered, then you have the same problem as Covtops and i.

if you DONT have nvidia 3d tvplay registered, that would be your issue. while you can setup 3d and you will be able to run movies in stereo through Powerdvd etc, you will not be able to run games in 3d through nvidia drivers.

for some reason mine is greyed out now... wasnt earlier... and no i dont have 3dtv play registered. how can i do that?

Update - Ok so from what I gather I either need to buy it for $40 or get the emitter to activate it. Then theres what I read about a custom file I can update on the tv to enable 3dtv play? how can I get that, and how do I do the update? Sorry total noob. Never thought getting this display to work on pc would be such a pain.

is anyone have problems after updating to latest 301.42 whql?

the .inf method worked perfectly under 290.53, i updated yesterday to 301.42 for Diablo 3 and now 3dtv play options are greyed out. performed a clean install of all drivers.
I'm also having problems. Was using the trial version. Since the update I haven't been able to get it to work. Wont work even after rolling back the drivers.

yea you'll need to buy 3dtv play. the custom .inf is only so 3dtv play will recognize your ps3 3d display AFTER you paid for it. so to sum up, you need 3dtv play (registered version), the .inf file which you can find earlier in this thread, and a version of Nvidia drivers that is proven to work.

keep in mind that since we are all having problems with the new drivers i dunno if its worth the investment for you, unless you are ok with running older drivers (290.53 beta was the last one that worked for me). there are other solutions such as iz3d drivers, but they are a pain for configure for each individual game.

i rolled back and it works, but it took me a few tries. make sure to manually uninstall 3dtv play through windows control panel and monitor driver (.inf) through device manager; then reinstall both.

so am i reading this right and despite all their promising to try and support all 3D tv's Nvidia is outright refusing this one specific set?

hmmm.. its labeled the screen as an "HDMI Blu-Ray 3D" atm.. used to work fine last time it said that (back when i got PSTV it worked when i first attached it, and it labeled it that, then suddenly stopped next driver update) but now... nope.. i can turn 3D on, but only for movies/pictures. I have my adapter (i have the 3DVision kit from my old monitor) plugged in and it still doesn't work.
instead of the 3DTV Play logo it just says "For the ultimate 3D TV Gaming experience, get Nvidia 3DTV Play".... does this mean the TV play stuff didn't install, or its just as above and clean out not supported?

Well, Nvidia has lost me as a customer because of this issue and the lack of concern that they have for their customer base.

I sent in a product support form asking if they are ever planning to support this monitor, here's the reply,

Hello,

Thank you for your submission. I am sorry but as far as I know there is currently no plan to support the playstation 3d display with NVIDIA 3D Vision or 3DTV Play. Of course marketing can certainly change their mind but I wouldn't wait for it, especially if you are within your return period. Sorry I don't have better news to report.

Best regards,
Ray

This is just absurd, I don't know who I'm pissed off at more, Sony or Nvidia. Sony claims that it is a 3D monitor for the PC as well as the PS3, Nvidia just doesn't care at all.

As far as official support goes we've been out of luck since the get go... thats where the custom .inf came in and helped all of us without officially supported displays.
What I'd like to know is if it's just the playstation 3d display that's being afected by the 301.42 drivers or if all unsupported displays in general... somebody who has another unsupported tv
and was using the modified .inf should find out and tell us!

Another thing I want to know is if NVIDIA is purposely locking us out or if it's just some sort of conflict within the driver.
anyway I rolled back to 296.10 and got everything working again... hopefully somebody out there can figure out some sort of work around..... /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />

I finally got it working as well after some trial and error. Turns out after installing the modded .inf I had to go back and reinstall the 3d play trial again. (still had 13 days left). Once I reinstalled the trial the settings recognized my machine and let me use the stereoscopic 3d settings. I unchecked *hide stereoscopic 3d effects when game starts* box and all is well. So far Ive played Battlefield 3, Skyrim, and Super Street fighter IV Arcade in beautiful 3d. Battlefield and Skyrim both worked with with 1080p 1920x1080 24hz, but for Street fighter I had to changed the in game resolution to 1280x720 for the 3d effects to work.

I'm new to this forum but was wondering if anything at all has been figured out in order to get this display to work with 3dtv play... The 3d stereoscopic works with my HP monitor(which is not 3d) but not with my Sony... I'm not exactly sure how the .inf file works.... if anyone could give me some insight i would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I have the alienware 3d monitor for my pc. My question is about using the nvidia glasses as a second set of glasses for the playstation 3d monitor. I don't get it. If the tv has an IR emitter and both are active glasses why doesn't it work?

Does anyone have an updated override for the 300 drivers? Since updating, the Playstation 3D monitor no longer works in 3D.

I have a Sony STR-DH520 surround sound receiver and I have been able to use Nvidia 3D play with it. It has just the regular drivers and my Nvidia 560ti runs games in 1280 by 720 in 60 hz 3D and 1920 by 1080 in 24 hz, using a Playstation display. You can probably buy any HDMI 1.4 3D capable reciever and it will recognize it as a 3D device and let you play in 3d. Ive played everything from Battlefield 2142 to Crysis 2 dx11 in 3d. All you need is a 3D surround sound reciever and it wont see the playstation display. My video adaptor shows up as SONY AVAMP and the 3D effect for games can be turned on after going through the regular 3d setup in the nvidia control panel. BF 2142 looks really cool in 3d even better then some games made for 3d. Its like the games have bad convergence of the 2 images for some made for 3d games but ol BF 2142 the 3d effect is really good for depth and the HUD for whats going on on the battlefield just floats there on top of the rest of the game.
