I have the 2233rz and must say I love it(I don't even have geforce 3d vision yet :P). If you get this one, try and get a wall/desk mount like I did b/c the stand is terrible imo. Have not tried out Viewsonic's 120hz monitor but I did find you these reviews:

ViewSonic FuHzion VX2265wm- http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/views...l?tag=mncol;txt

Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ- http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/samsu...l?tag=mncol;lst

Hope this helps!

I just placed an order for the ViewSonic monitor. I already have the Samsung and have used it for a few months. When I've had a few days to compare the two, I will post my thoughts in this thread.

See also: I started a thread addressing an issue with the Samsung monitor producing "horizontal lines" / "interlaced look". A lot of customers have reported problems with the Samsung monitor -- so in the meantime I'd be hesitant to purchase it.

Hopefully I'll have comparison results to share within a week. It is unfortunate that nVidia is so silent on this topic. A lot of us are very curious about 3D performance differences between the two brands. I'm sure nVidia is being very careful to not play favorites.

(This is the same post as my original thread. Duplicating it here because the topic is similar and I promised a review.)

Ok, my results are in. Thanks to Tiger Direct's amazing shipping, I received the Viewsonic monitor today (one day after I ordered it).

The horizontal line issue is still there. The Viewsonic monitor did not fix the problem. This is too bad, I was very optimistic considering how many other things I've tried over the last few months. I have now replaced every single component, including the cables and the operating system. I've used Windows Vista 32, 64, and Windows 7 RC. I bought a new $100 dual-link DVI cable from Best Buy. And now I've tried both brands of 120 Hz monitors. I even hooked the 3D up to my wife's computer in an effort to swap every component out, all at once. I've tried two different video cards, a GTX 260 and an older 8800 GT.

Nothing has fixed the horizontal line issue while in 3D mode.

Edit: I also want to point out that I've tried every driver release, including the betas, for the past few months. I've reinstalled EVERYTHING, including my O/S, more than once.

The ViewSonic monitor is all packed up and ready to ship back to Tiger Direct. Tiger Direct has such a great shipping and return policy -- this experiment has only cost me about $17 in shipping. I HIGHLY recommend Tiger Direct to anyone purchasing computer equipment, they have done great.

As for the 3D technology itself: my recommendation is simple. If you haven't yet invested in this technology, you might consider waiting a bit. It isn't bad, I don't entirely regret purchasing this product, and I've had some fun with it. But, it just isn't quite what it COULD be. For those of you with the bundle (or the Samsung 2233RZ), I recommend keeping what you have and not stressing out too much over it. I've tried like crazy to fix the problem, and had no luck. Just relax and enjoy your product for what it is worth. That is probably just how this technology works (for the moment).

To be fair, I wanted to point out that the ViewSonic monitor seemed a bit "easier to see" in 3D mode. I attribute this mostly to it having a more "washed out" and "brighter" look to it. The Samsung, by contrast, has richer colors and a deeper black color. Therefore, the additional "darkness" of the 3D glasses makes it a bit harder to see. Adjusting the Gamma up a bit makes the Samsung have a similar "washed out" appearance as compared to the ViewSonic. Similar, but not quite the same. I'd give the 3D edge to the Viewsonic, but just barely.

In 2D mode, the Samsung kicks the ViewSonic's butt. No comparison. The Samsung just looks BETTER. In Windows, and in 2D gaming. Richer colors, deeper blacks, etc. The decision to keep the Samsung over the Viewsonic was a NO BRAINER after I discovered that the ViewSonic had the same horizontal line issue. (In fact, it might have been worse on the ViewSonic.) Also, my particular ViewSonic had two pixels out, which is totally unacceptable for an LCD monitor in my opinion. My Samsung is perfect in that regard -- every pixel looks great.

The casing on the Samsung is superior too. Also, I prefer the single purpose monitor -- no additional speakers to contend with. I bought a monitor, not a sound system. The viewsonic should invest more into picture quality over bells and whistles. (However, unlike most reviews I read, the ViewSonic DOES have an adjustable stand. You can't adjust height, but you can tilt it and turn it to face you as desired. This was a pleasant surprise.)

The Samsung is simply a better monitor. Plagued with the EXACT SAME symptoms as the ViewSonic -- the choice is a no-brainer. Samsung all the way. Better picture quality. All of the pixels worked. Richer colors. Deeper/Darker blacks. Everything about the Samsung is perfect except for 3D mode. And at this point, I don't have a clue what causes the problem we are experiencing. Could just be the state of the technology.

Oh well, mission accomplished. At least now we have more information.

Thanks for that Information, ;)
I too have these horizontal lines on my Samsung 2233RZ which is an unfortunate.
I Have a Nvidia Ge-force 295 GTX i7 core etc its a beast of a computer to run 3D smoothly
I also have duel monitors my other monitor is a SyncMaster 2494HS which has no sign of horizontal lines.
These Lines start when I boot up a game any one, all the way till I exit the game it still sits on my desktop
like its kinda burned into the desktop.
These lines are visible top right hand corner and bottom left hand corner. (on desktop)
They're like patches of lines. Then they slowly disappear.

I've Tried updating the graphic card and also 3D vision Update and no change.

I thought I would just share my experience in hopefully we might be able to hopefully nut something out.

Regards

Brad.

I just encountered the horizontal line problem with my 2233rz after I bought the 3D vision glasses. I've had the monitor for about a year and never had any problems with the image quality until I began running it at 120Hz mode. Upon seeing that 120Hz mode gave unsightly lines while 60Hz did not, I tinkered with the refresh rate and found that 100Hz will give you uninterrupted motion in both eyes while getting rid of the lines. I hope this workaround helps some other poor souls with nasty lines on their monitors.

Well.... i just ordered the new Asus VG236H 23.6" 1080p 3D monitor.... SOOOOO can't wait to get it. Seems to be highly recommended even though it just came out like a week or two ago if that.... and on top of that, $500 and comes with the 3DVision glasses kit.

ooh err didnt know about the horizontal line thing with the samsung.

Had mine a couple of months now and its brilliant, the only issue i have with it is the 10-20% ghosting along the very top of the screen while running in s3D but ive gotten used to it now and just ignore it (apparantly this happens on all LCD monitors). Other than its awesome, even playing games without 3D vision look great (my old monitor was a cheap 22" fujitsu). No issues with brightness in 3D either dont know if thats because im using the magicbright setting, never had to turn the brightness/gamma up on any of my games so far.

Cant speak for the viewsonic monitor in question but my wife had one of their 19" widescreens for a while, and it was absolute rubbish, we had it replaced twice (1st replacement just didnt work at all out of the box) and even the last one had issues as well, colours kept going from normal to washed out and back again, windows wouldnt let you change the resolution from 1024x768 at one point (could be a glitch with windows though).

When i got my 120hz monitor i had a choice between the samsung and viewsonic, to me it was a no brainer but thats just my past experiences.

But now im curious about this horizontal line thing? you dont mean the ghosting along the top while in s3D do you?

x-bit labs has very detailed reviews of both monitors
the viewsonic has very superior response times and input lag
so you should get the viewsonic if possible, or just get a 2nd generation 3d vision monitor like the asus

I have both. And they are identical monitors.

Could someone take a pic of this horizontal line problem? I haven't experienced this on either monitors.
