why some games work in IZ3D but not with Nvidia 3D Vision? for Shin Megai Tensei: Imagine Online
  1 / 2
Hi,

I read some news about a online game work in s3d with IZ3D monitor, so I download it and tried it on 3D Vision. But I am not getting any 3d in the 3D Vision solution, instead, the game looks 2d with a lot of flickers :(

The game is called Shin Megai Tensei: Imagine Online, here is it's website

if Nvidia does not work with it...I will get the IZ3D 26'' monitor when it comes out for this...

Sorry, don't have the exact answer.
But hey, I think you can use iZ3D-drivers with Nvidia too, have you tried that already?

~really?! I will try that for sure, but I thought they are not compatible, surprise to hear that IZ3D will give support to its competitor's technology.

I don't know if that's still so. But I switched to Vista because of it in June 2008. Actually the switch wasn't that bad, and since it is almost 10 months later the support etc. will be even better.
On my laptop though, I hated it, so I switched back to XP. But if you have a decent computer the performance loss isn't that bad.

3dvision = no openGL support, directX only.
Iz3d = openGL AND directX.

Iz3ddriver has advantages to the nvidiadriver and of course vice versa. The stereodrivers works a little different in their ways to generate 3d and gives slightly different final results.

Iz3d works with opengl but you need to set the game/app to quadbuffered opengl for it to work. Iz3d has stated that they try to support all hardware stereosolutions (and yes, even specifically mentioned the 3dvision) as possible to help the industry growing. Their monitor isn't to bad either ;) (I had one almost at the moment the 22"er was released).
I'm not sure if iz3d supports 3dvision since the glasses uses an usb-port. It doesn't harm to try though. You can easily have both drivers installed on your system for as long as the one you aren't using for the moment is deactivated.

~thx Likay,
I have tried install IZ3D drivers after Neil's reply on the MTBS forum. So I disable the Nvidia stereo driver and turn on IZ3D driver. But due to the Nvidia's proprietory USB port thingy for the emitter, it just didn't work...so I guess I will just have to wait for the IZ3D 26'' monitor to release

Check user Exposed's posts about the IZ3D monitor he's selling.

I believe OpenGL support is coming to 3D Vision this spring, and the title of this thread could just as easily (actually more easily) be "Why some games work in NVIDIA 3D Vision and not IZ3D?" because every game on IZ3D needs a profile programmed by IZ3D. (non profiled games may work with 3D Vision)

Not entirely correct Brian. The iz3d driver supports a lot of games that are not in their list. Not all dx8/dx9 games but a lot of them. And about the same percentage that nvidiastereodrivers do i think. Newer nvidiastereodrivers doesn't seem to be as compatible with older games as the excellent oldschool nvidiastereodrivers either.
I would recommend all to make some research before going for a 3d-solution though.

Btw: I'm running both the iz3d 22"'er as well as a dual polarized projector rig, both supported with the iz3d drivers. When running older games i use an old 7900gt and oldschool nvidiadrivers. There's quite a goldmine there!
I cannot make a personal opinion about new nvidiastereodrivers until they support any of the rigs i have now though.
Iz3d doesn't of course beat the passive rig in quality/size or whatever and i believe neither does any 3d-vision glasses/monitor. Too bad nvidia don't support any of them though. I wouldn't get 3d-vision because of this but it should help me in future decision on what graphiccard to get.

Cheers

Well, I'm using the iZ3D driver with an old regular flatscreen CRT 19" monitor. I just use either Nvidia's anaglyph or iZ3D's depending on which game I'm playing. iZ3D handles post processing better than Nvidia's stereo drivers but neither of them are compatible with DX10 games yet I don't think, I'm using DX9 on Windows XP SP3 but that's what I've heard, post processing problems =/. Anyway, I've gotten Crysis to work with iZ3D but not with Nvidia. Also, GTA SA, Driver 3, Diver: Deep Water Adventures, Project64 N64 Emulator, JAWS Unleashed, Half Life 2, Lost Coast, and a few others all work better with iZ3D as far as I'm concerned, except for the crosshair issue which Nvidia drivers deal with a little better but most of the time you can turn the crosshairs off. What I'm looking for is something like the Nvidia Philips 3D Multiview or iZ3D's Side by Side setting so I can just do the cross eyed crossview method, not regularly but just to test it out, but the problem with Philips and Side by Side is that the left and right are reversed so no go, and there's no way to change it. Pluss iZ3D's Side by Side is only a trail version.

What I use to test the OpenGL or DirectX games for 3D use is Project64 N64 Emulator because it's quick and easy. You need the Rice video plugin for PJ64 but it does work with iZ3D, not with Nvidia though. Then if you can get the Red and Blue to show up in PJ64 games like Perfect Dark for example which looks great, you know it's working. Then if you try a different method and it doesn't work, makes the flickering problem, you know that it's the different 3D method having the conflict and not the 3D driver itself. Just my 2 cents.

I just want to make an update, I did get the crossview method working with the trial version of iZ3D's Side by Side simply by pressing ctrl + F8. This way you can play your games with your eyes crossed for the 3D effect, I'm not really going to do this but I will make some vids using Growler Guncam and put them on youtube for other people looking for the same effect. There's none out there right now.
