Seriously. If I need to build some contraption in order to get 1080P I think I'll pass... And you have to pay for the drivers? Huh? Download the users manual from samsung. If the TV you're considering shows it has checkerboard, then it does.

[/quote]maybe that's the idea, but not the reality. The TV makers have stated that they plan to stay with HDMI1.4 on all future HDTVs, never go to dual link. No dual link, no 3D gaming at 1080P. So from now on, the best we will ever have is 1920x1080 checkerboard.
To understand this, look at it from the TV makers viewpoint...HDMI1.4 is sufficient for every application of broadcast video and BluRay through Blu Ray 3D. Therefore, there is no incentive to upgrade to a dual link input, so they won't. They regard HDTVs specifically as NOT display devices for computers, so they aren't going out of their way to support computer specific applications, like 3D gaming.

I wish Andrew would post his view on this topic. Or at least let us know there may be a way in the future to enable 3D Vision on HDMI 1.4 HDTVs. No one can deny how great 3D games look in 1080p checkerboard vs. 720p checkerboard.

I have been reading this thread and BTW, I am the "marketing guy" referenced above.

First I really want to get to the definition and understanding of our products and the target markets for these products. I'm actualy pretty sure there may be some misunderstandings on what you want and if you need, and possibly we might also not have the support for the feature you want checked into our drivers yet.

So first with products.

[*]NVIDIA 3D Vision. We build these glasses to support a variety of displays, including Mitsubishi DLPs. So when you use these glasses, we connect over HDMI 1.3 (yes 1.3) and output a checkerboard pattern format to the 3D TV. This requires the end user to be aware that they want 3D TV on and you must change the TV's settings to be in 3D mode. Its not the best experience since its not automatic engaged 3D, but it works. You can output 1080p60 checkerboard pattern.
[*]NVIDIA 3DTV Play. This is a software product is designed to support HDMI 1.4 3D TVs. The HDMI 1.4 format allows source devices to trigger 3D on. So within the sw, we support 1080p24 (blu-ray) and 720p50/60 (gaming) frame packed formats, which is what most TVs support. We will add some more HDMI 1.4a formats that have been defined in the future drivers. The beauty of HDMI 1.4, is its all automatic. You can connect your PC to your 3D TV and run your Desktop at 1920x1080 in 2D mode and have the best color quality, and then when you want to play games you run the game at 1280x720 and 3D is engaged. This is important since TVs do change their internatl image processing for 3D mode and you dont want to run your desktop with 3D mode always forced on since the colors will look different. Our intention with 3DTV Play is to strictly support HDMI 1.4 3D TVs.

Now lets talk about specific products you guys want to use for 3D and find out if there is a misunderstanding or there is a feature we havent fixed yet.

I want to discuss Mitsubishi TVs. For the past few years Mitsubishi TVs have supported HDMI 1.3 checkerboard 3D. They had no way to support HDMI 1.4 so the source device could automatically trigger the TV into 3D mode. Mitsubishi then built a box that converts HDMI 1.4 frame packed signals into HDMi 1.3 checkerboard for their TV and it then automatically works. We dont support that box yet. For anyone that wants support for that product, please respond to this post.

Mitsubishi will be releasing a 2011 set of DLP products which will support HDMI 1.4 frame packged formats or HDMI 1.3 checkerboard. Today, I dont think we support those products for 3D Vision or 3DTV Play, but it is our intention to allow you to use that TV in either way. So if you want to use NVIDIA 3D Vision glasses, you can run it over HDMI 1.3 at 1080p60 with checkerboard format. Or if you want to use Mitsubishi glasses and still play games, you buy 3DTV Play and then operate frame packed over HDMI 1.4. Its important to note that over HDMI 1.4, the DLPs accept a frame packed format, not a checkerboard format. If this is what you are trying to do, please tell me.

There is no contract between Mitsubishi and NVIDIA. We work with then as a partner. In fact, I had a call with them earlier this week to discuss getting samples of their 2011 lineup to support their products with 3D Vision and 3DTV Play.

There is no contract between Mitsubishi and NVIDIA. We work with then as a partner. In fact, I had a call with them earlier this week to discuss getting samples of their 2011 lineup to support their products with 3D Vision and 3DTV Play.

i have 3dvision kit and 3dtv play commerciall version

i can not select any other devise (for example normal crt and generic 3d dlp)
i was used gtx 480 before this 580
gtx 480 was enable to use frame packing mode and normal crt display with 3dtv
and with 258.96 driver

but at now
gtx 580 only can play game 1920*1080*24hz with 3dtv play
i want to return to go before days

I know at least two other people who are also doing checkerboard on a samsung HDMI1.4 plasma, only they set up CD1.45, they had to do an expensive, involved hardware hack to mimic a HDMI1.3 connection.

I purchased a 3D Vision kit, but I can't use it because I'm restricted to old 258.xx drivers which have no 3D Vision support for games newer than Apr. 2010.
If you ask your compatibility lab to test a Samsung, be sure to enable checkerboard mode, it's disabled by default. From the samsung menu button, go to 'input', 'edit name'. Label HDMI1/DVI input to 'PC DVI'

Andrew, the crux of the matter is that with the current drivers, I'm forced to use 720p/60 or 1080p/24 on my Samsung TV, despite the 1080p checkerboard format being the highest quality supported 3D mode on the TV for gaming purposes.

1. The checkerboard format at 1080p is significantly superior in visual quality to 720p/60. There are quite a few HDMI 1.4 capable TV's out there that support 3D checkerboard in addition to the frame-packed formats of HDMI. In fact, I just ordered a Samsung 58PNC7000 which supports exactly this.
2. The ability to enable 3D checkerboard on HDMI 1.4 capable TV's was eliminated at some point after the 258.xx drivers, forcing the user to choose 720p/60 or 1080p/24. (3DTV Play mode)

Obviously, I paid quite a bit for the original 3D Vision bundle and I dislike the idea of this option being taken away from me in the most recent drivers.

I ordered parts to hack this all up but the drivers actually allowing me to use my TV properly is the best solution.

We are willing to bypass the whole 3dtv automatic feature that sets 3d gaming at 720p/60, so that we can select checkerboard format at 1080p/60 for 3d gaming.
Or better yet, have the option to do so.
