We assume that when people on these boards say they DISABLED 3D Vision, that means they went into the control panel (before starting the game) and unchecked the ENABLE 3D Vision checkbox.

Patch, patch... and patch..... what a ridiculous world. This game do not exist for me, it is only a beta if it do not support 3D as it was anounced. When I buy something I pay with money, not with a paper that promise to be money in the future (some day, I do not know when).

Arioch,

Why do people complain about 3D vision only on indoor areas? 3D Vision is lowering the framerate across the board - both indoors and outdoors. I've compared the framerates when 3D Vision is disabled and when it is enabled and there is a drastic framerate drop all around.

Because some of us just love this game in 3D so much that we put up with the sh1tty frame rate just to see it. I love it, but can only handle it for about 20 minutes per session so after that I save and exit, disable stereo, relaunch the game and let out a sigh of relief when I see my framerates have tripled and it's smooth again (but 2D)

are you serious?

Those guys are some of the best EXE hackers on the planet. If they can patch around all the crazy DRM put into games these days, they can EASILY fix this simple little issue. They just need to make it so the stereo check isn't called each frame (either that or change the function that IS called)

kid's stuff to those guys.
Somehow I don't think that is the root cause of it. If so it would not be playable outdoors either, unless this check for each frame only occurs indoors which seems unlikely.

3D is not a free process that takes place. Of course you are going to get overall lower FPS in 3D vs 2D.

3D outdoors = totally playable rate
3D indoors = slideshow

is this a joke? you're rendering the scene twice, so of course there's going to be a ~50% frame rate hit at all times. The problem discussed here is that the outdoor performance is as expected, while the indoor performance is inexplicably horrrrriiibbleee.

add me to the list of affected by this problem and pissed off about it. I'm at the dungeon escape level in the very early stages of the game, and I've just stopped playing because the performance is unbelievably poor. Outside, the performance was great. Makes me crave playing Myst for it's fluid framerate.

Just to be clear, the issue in this thread is the rather sudden relative drop in FPS during indoor scenes with 3D, NOT the general drop in FPS in 3D compared to 2D, which is entirely expected. I think this sudden drop is because of a bug in the game, and is distinct from the fact that 3D generally takes more work to render, because:
(i) the drop seems to be connected to light sources in closed environments with 3D on, while there is no such strange drop in the same scenes when 3D is disabled in the control panel,
(ii) changing the graphics settings from maximum (except ubersampling) to minimum (very low), or changing resolution from 800x600 to 5300x1050 (I have 3D vision surround), does not cause a significant change to this sudden FPS drop (with 3D on) with my 470 SLI, suggesting that the drop is due to some "bottleneck" activity.

The NVIDIA/CDPR testers were a bit hasty in slapping the "3D vision ready" rating on the game, and probably only tested out the first part of the game. All the prologue scenes before the temple do perform reasonably well, after all. I'm not making excuses for them, merely explaining why they might believe that 3D vision works, and hopefully, they don't make the same mistake again when trying to fix this issue.

More on (i):
For example, you can disable 3D (in the control panel) during the first dungeon scene, snuff out ALL the torches, save and quit, switch on 3D, and load the save. The FPS is much higher than 3D + torches not put out (the low FPS persists even when no torches are currently visible, as long as they are burning somewhere in the dungeon). I think there are a few candles here and there that can't be put out, so it still won't be as fast as outdoors.

An even simpler test: at the very end of the dungeon, before getting out into the courtyard by the lake, there is a small room (with a sword on a sword stand) and a few torches. This room does not lag as much as the dungeon with a gazillion light sources, even though it is also indoors, and is as fast as outdoors if you put those few torches out.

Unfortunately, the lights in other scenes, such as the tavern, cannot be snuffed out. There are torches in outdoor scenes too, but somehow that doesn't seem to be as bad, perhaps because there aren't several reflecting surfaces near each torch, while there are walls etc., in indoor scenes. I haven't progressed very far in the game (because of the 3D bug), but if someone could point out an indoor scene without light sources where the FPS doesn't drop, that might prove the point (although I don't know if such a scene exists in the game).
