Nvidia 3D Surround Release Date?
  1 / 3
Hello there,

I was wondering if by chance there was a release date for the triple monitor support for Nvidia. I was planning on buying two more 28 inch monitors (all three have a native resolution of 1920x1200), but since the only 3 monitor solution (besides ATI; don't feel like spending more money on video cards) supports a lower resolution than the native resolutions I'm going to use, I guess I don't have a choice but to wait for Nvidia's solution. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much.

BTW, are we 100% positive that one GTX4XX can handle 3 monitors? Or is this only possible via SLI. Had an e-penis argument with someone about that last nite, and I know I read confirmation somewhere, but can't recall for the life of me where that was...

I suppose it needs 2 cards in SLI for 3 monitors... take a look at the end of the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpdPSZB8A8E

Question is will 2 GTX480s be enough to get 120fps using three monitors for the most interesting games and demanding games, BC2, Metro2033, Just Cause2, Crysis 2, etc.

My current 2xGTX285s do pretty well at maintaining 120fps (1920x1080) for most titles but I do see some frame drops in High Physx titles like BatmanAA and DarkVoid (which are FANTASTIC in 3D vision with high Physx), even with a dedicated GTS250 running Physx.

But are 2 GTX480s really going to handle three times the pixels.
Will there be an option to run the two lateral monitors at a somewhat lower res (1680x945 etc)?

A single 30" 3D monitor would be a very nice alternative, giving twice the pixels with no intervening bezels!

Could try 3-way SLI 480s but this would significantly cut into my daughter's college fund and also trip the circuit breakers in my house..

AWESEOME!!!!!!!! I think I'm going with this setup than the projector. Yeah it's more expensive getting 3 120hz 1920x1080 monitors + 2 480 fermi cards in sli but so what. I always liked eyefinity and I like 3dvision so combining the two technologies is a dream. Undecided whether to get the Alienware or Acer. So far I'm leaning towards the Alienware because of esthetics and overall better image quality according to tom's hardware.

pretty cool- but i think id rather have a 3d 1080p projector on a 120" + screen. i dont like how the monitor breaks up the FOV.

I wonder if it would be possible to align 3 projectors to get the same effect without the monitor frames? It will be interesting to see how well triple monitors tech. will work with games. i wonder if it will support old games- or if we will have to wait for custom profiles and new games to come out.

If thats the case ill defiantly pass- ive lost my faith in nvidias support after my 3d vision experience.

System:

Intel I7 920 overclocked to 4ghz

Asus Rampage Extreme II

2 Ge-force 480 in SLI

GTX 295 PhysX Card

12gb ddr3 2000mhz ram

Intel SSD in RAID 0

BR RW

1000w Sony surround sound

NVIDIA 3D Vision

3d displays tested:

Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)

Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)

Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)

23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)

Samsung 65D8000

I havent seen any news about a 1920x1200 3d display. They are all 1920x1080.

dual dvi bandwidth limitation. I would have prefered 1920x1200 myself so the image doesn't look too wide/fisheye with 3 monitors + you get more vertical 2d desktop space. triple projectors would be the ultimate but I don't have the wall to fit even 2 of them, nevermind 3. but the large wide life size screens, 0 ghosting, and no bezels is a step above triple lcds. I'm also going with the Alienware since it has a thinner bezel with a black matte finish as opposed to the Acer's wider glossy (distracting) black bezel.

So, tomorrow is the 26th. In theory, the drivers should be out either today at midnight or so, or maybe I have just over looked some important news. Anyone know what's going? The suspense is killing me!

Drivers aren't going to be out until at least Fermi hits the shelf. the Fermi will be unvield tomorrow however I doubt they will be in stores before April.

no use for Nvidia to shoot themselves in the foot by a driver update for 3d surround for their GTX200 series before ppl start buying the Fermi's
I hope I am wrong.

So in other words....NVIDIA lied.

Yes, lied, why would they announce their Fermi GF100 for the 26th of march on their official Twitter site? Unless that twitter site is NOT official, I can understand. But this is a bit unacceptable in my opinion. Do not give release dates that will not be met. Better yet, do not give release dates at all until the job is done.
