3D projectors and Nvidia Vision 2 Need your input please, upgrading from ASUS 23 inch
1 / 2
Hi Guys, the reason Im making this thread is to get your input about a upgrade from my 23 inch ASUS.
The main reason for this upgrade is I love 3D gaming and Nvidia Vision does a great job, but I dont use it near as much as I would like.
My Options :
Option 1 - 3D projector ($500 range): Ive owned a projector before and loved it, the idea of wall sized 3D gaming makes my mouth water, and I hear that some of the projectors are bright enough to offset some of the darkness, and with the Nvidia Vision 2 Glasses things should be slightly brighter even with out the lightboost from the new monitors. Also even if I dont end up using 3D as much as would like, the wallsized gaming would still make the upgrade worthy.
~ which projector should i get, again i have roughly a $500 price range due to still needing to get a screen and new glasses.
~ any suggestions on a Screen, I would like roughly a 100 inch screen with a $100-150 budget, dose not have to be top end but still need one good for 3D gaming, I have read the more grain the better.
~ how much room would I need, how many feet from the screen would the projector have to be from the wall, and how far would i have to be sitting from the screen, will post pics of the space I plan on using at a later time.
Option 2 - 27 Inch Asus Nvidia Vision 2 monitor with lightboost : The darkness of the screen as well as the fact i have to peek under my glasses at times to find my keys are 2 of the main reason Im not playing my games in 3D as much as I would like, aslo the ghosting I get at times, while not bad still makes me turn 3D settings down to the point were its not as enjoyable, and I believe this monitor fixes alot of that as well (even though I have read the projectors are good with ghosting as well).
My biggest reason for not wanting this monitor as my option 1 for an upgrade is that if I end up not playing my games in 3D or while not playing in 3d (I dont raid in 3D) I would love for it to be on a 100 inch screen compared to a 27 inch, and the 27 inch is only a slight upgrade over my 23 inch, and I just spent $500 last year on this one, so if i spend more I would like a bigger impact for my gaming.

Bird eye view games or third person games, racing games ,all look amazing on the big screen...
Prince of Persia,Batman,Dirt,LaraCroft,Tombraider,Assassins Creed,Alice in Wonderland ..all such games look great !
Only thing I don't like is playing thirst person shooters, because it's hard to play with mouse/keyboard on the sofa....
But this hasn't really got anything to do with the projector anyhow...
It's also great to play (3d) movies at a big screen...movies like Tron and Avarar etc.
That's why I own a lcd monitor, and a projector,it's a big difference in those two ,and sometimes I use the projector and sometimes the monitor..it's like 50/50
It's great to have the choice in two different media...

Thank you very much for your input, i know i loved my projector just for 2d when I had mine, I will mostly be playing MMO's with my setup, any suggestions or thoughts on how much space I should have and also where i can find a fairly cheap but good screen for 3D ?
And any one have any thoughts if I should shell out the extra for new version of the glasses ?

Another question to add to the list if I may, what projector do you think would be best for my price range ?

I have the Acer H5360 and it is great, $500 on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009223&Tpk=3d%20vision%20projector I cant wait to see what next gen projectors will have in them.
Is the new Sony HMD out of question? Yes it's personal device but on paper and early reports it will give best 3D by far.
+no ghosting possible
+no brightness loss
+no flicker
+huge contrast
+black is black
+no motionblurring
+no rainbows(can be issue for some with DLP)
+no jitter with 3D movies(120hz cannot play 24p3D movies smooth)
+price
I have h5360 at the moment and it's very good for 3D, no ghosting, bright enough but i think it will get some rest after Sony HMD arrives :)
Well guys, its looking like im going to be going with the Acer H5360 from newegg @ $509 ($600 with 3-Year Electronics Warranty)
and the Elite Screens M92UWH 80" W X 45" H Manual Series, 16:9 Projection Screen 92" Diagonal - Gray Screen @ $ 106, I have read that the grey screen will work better with 3D content if you can confirm this that would be great, if not I will end up going with a slightly bigger screen for just a little less.
Im doing my very best to pool together as much info from around the web as I can on the subject due to this being such a large investment for me, and when you only make $7.40 per hr, and have bills to pay it takes quite a long time of sacrifice and saving to afford to do some thing like this.
Im still wondering about upgrading to the Nvidia Vision 2 Glasses but I think that can be a upgrade further down the road if Im still unhappy with the darkness from the current glasses I have.
I will be taking measurements of the space I plan on using in some time Thursday and will post them for your input as well as a pic or two if I can.
Also I am fully aware about keeping the room as dark as I can for the best viewing image, and will be taking steps to unsure this as well.

As far as Sony HMD being out of question, Im sorry to say that at the moment yes it is.
That's mostly due to it being just a personal display device, which looks great and could be making huge head way for the future of gaming and 3d gaming, I'm looking to be able to share the experience of 3D wall sized gaming.
(even non-3d wall sized gaming for that matter).

Ok so I wanted to ask about screen types, at the moment with my current budget I can not afford much more then a $100 screen, and I want roughly a 100 inches if not more, will I regret getting a cheap manual pull down screen and does it mater if I go with the gray screen, or a white one for slightly cheaper and larger ?
I know more gain is better, and yes at a later date I plan on upgrading to a much better screen, most likely even a DIY one so I can attempt to fill a whole wall and add backlighting.
Also while I'm on here I would like to state that I know the new Nvidia Vision 2 glasses are mostly made to go with the new LCD monitors, but with them lenses being lighter would I be able to see my Keyboard easier (have to peek under glasses at times). Also with the bigger lenses allowing for 20% more viewing I think was listed, I tend to think that these would be better for projectors as well.
If any one can help shed some Light on if they would recommend the new glasses with a projector setup from personal experience I would be very grateful. (Nvidia techs if ur reading this would kinda of be more directed at you at the moment due to the new glasses not for sale yet).
Thank you guys for all your help, I truly cant afford in making the wrong choices with this upgrade, what I get is what I'm going to be "stuck" with for at least 6 months.

So true maybe the blacks aren't black after all :D
The 5360 is great, I got it the 1st week it came out. I did have to send it back after about 3 months to get a new firmware installed as it overheated/didn't like being inverted, on a ceiling mount. After the firmware, which should be current on those being sold now, fixed that and have had no problems.
Regarding gaming, in 3d, you will get the max native resolution of 1280X720. Max 2d 1920X1080. Here's the specs, and this is a great website by the way:
Great for the reason that it lets you figure out how far from what wall you will need it to be for the size of screen or wall you want to use it on, clicking on Projector Calculator:
I have the Elite Screen M100NWV1. It's worked great, the only problem with screens in time in general is that they will slowly warp inward from the bottom corners and kinda drive ya nuts, so, I ended up hanging a 2# weight, hand body building thing, from each corner. Works perfect, 3# will start to warp it downward on the ends and mess with the middle,....use 2#....
Movies with Cyberlink work great and Bluray and 3D Bluray incredible.
And yes, for games, get a big LCD later. I'd get the big screen first. I've even moved my pc a couple times to a massive wall in the livingroom and had a 200"+ projection on a tan wall, just adjust the color setting on the 5360 for that color wall and enjoy.

-this is specmanship dude, stop doing it , I told you in PM about the trees. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

The depth Nividia uses with projectors is set for screens with this size.....
If you already have glasses then don't buy new ones.....
Better invest in a good projector screen.

and the Elite Screens M92UWH 80" W X 45" H Manual Series, 16:9 Projection Screen 92" Diagonal - Gray Screen @ $ 106, I have read that the grey screen will work better with 3D content if you can confirm this that would be great, if not I will end up going with a slightly bigger screen for just a little less.

That's mostly due to it being just a personal display device, which looks great and could be making huge head way for the future of gaming and 3d gaming, I'm looking to be able to share the experience of 3D wall sized gaming.
(even non-3d wall sized gaming for that matter).

Thank you sir for your reply, Im very excited to game in 3D on a projector as Ive had a projector before and loved it.
Sadly though I was pulled over and issued a ticket for driving with out my license and its going to be a while now before I can afford any new toys.
