Seen the new VR920? (a new hmd intended for Nvidia Stero3d)
Hi,
I'm supprised no one mentioned the Icuiti VR920 - an hmd intended for consumer 3d-gaming based on nvidia's drivers. It apperently won the CES 2007 award for best inovation!
Accoding to the press-release it's supposed to have been shipping late mars, and another couple of sources states second week of april, but I'm still waiting inpatiently... (pre-orderd)
- I really hope this will increase the mass interest for 3d-stereo so that Nvidia and the game-developers will put some more energy of giving us exciting 3d-solutions.
(I know this maybe looks weird; a new member starts a thread and advertising a product, but I assure you that I'm not associated with Icuiti in any case, and I've been lurking in these forums for some time now.)

- 399$
- 2 * 640 x 480 displays
- built-in standalone headtracker(!)
- standard VGA-connector, usb connector (for power, sound, headtracker)

I totally agree, but at least it's a start...
And considering the price - I think they choose to use low-end optics to be able to reach the masspublic. (who have hi-res VR-hmd's at home now days?)

remember emagin's z800, the price was approx $500 for some time, and for SVGA unit. Even though, emagin couldn't sell as manu units as they wanted. I doubt that VGA one will have better results. The minimum that in my opinion is suitable for most people is XGA (1024x768). Also, the quality of even the best LCD microdisplays and optics is much below expectations of anyone.
If icuiti make XGA unit, even for $500-700 im sure there will be much more interested people that will buy it.

Well, if the won a prize then maybe the interest in S-3D is going up /haha.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':haha:' />
I've never tried HMD. If You combine it with a head tracker - that could be awesome: "Hey I'm looking around in this virtual world". I can't do that with my eDimensional shutterglasses (which are otherwise great and cheap 30-100$).
I think it's nice with new S-3D gear (also the iZ3D). Keep 'em comming plz /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Actually, the last version of VFX3D had only 480x263 pixels resolution

That should be good satisfaction for Icuiti Inc. ;)
[quote name='oluv' date='Jul 25 2007, 08:46 AM']i am quite interested in this gear, but how has the stereo-driver to be configured to make it work with this one?

Like DDC glasses mode in Nvidia stereo driver, but no flicking in light or ghosting. Work perfect if you don't have an 8xxx gfx card serie , core2 duo or Vista, nvidia don't want to update their drivers the last have more than one year.... a Shame. /thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

thanks for your explanation. maybe i'll buy this toy in the next time. could you please give me some notes about how the configuration of the head-tracker works?
does it work with any game, or are there only some games that are preconfigured factorywise? it would be cool the 920 automatically overtook the movement from the mouse, but i doubt it will.

Be cautious - lots of reviews on the interent found 'tunnelling' to be a problem.

I have both and the Z800 is a million times better. I used the Icuiti HMD once and never bothered again because the FOV was so tiny you can't see jack.

does it work with any game, or are there only some games that are preconfigured factorywise? it would be cool the 920 automatically overtook the movement from the mouse, but i doubt it will.
