Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast: how to enable 3D Vision?
What kind of magic do I have to use to enable 3d in Outrun 2006? The game should use dx9 but I've also read it uses dx8. I've tried to use google and search instructions but can't find anything about Outrun in 3d.
Oh, the game is disc version and it runs otherwise as it should on Windows 10.

I used to play it in S3D wihtout any modification. Since moving from W7 to W10, and with newer drivers, I am not able to get 3D to kick in.
I was only able to get the game working at all by running it in W7 compatibility mode. While it is possible that W10 is the culprit, I have a suspicion that it might be the newer drivers.
I am in the process of setting my rig up to dual-boot W7/W10 (was stymied by the lack of separate PS2 ports for keyboard/mouse and had to order an adapter that has taken a bit of time to receive.)
Once I have W7 running again (hopefully by the end of the week), the first game I am going to run is Outrun, using driver 384.94.
At that point, I will post my findings.

BTW - you might want to give Xenon Racer a look... Outrun in spirit (maybe more Outrun 2019!) - plays fast, looks great, superb drifting (a la Ridge Racer and others) and, although it has a few lighting/shadow issues in S3D, not enough to bother me.

I got Outrun working with 3d Vision. I tried so many things I'm not sure which of them did the trick, but I guess using Windows 8 compatibility mode had a lot to do with it. Game looks very good in 3d except some HUD elements can be little bit annoying like that "rival" text over some ai drivers. Otherwise it is very enjoyable!

Hi Zig,
I did... it just seemed like a few minor things were off. Pic attached.

That didn't work for me. And... it was XP SP2 that got the game working for me, not W7... just not in S3D :(

Ok, so the other things I did really has effect on something. Let's see..
After I installed Outrun I also installed FTX: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/after-a-decade-outrun-2006-coast-2-coast-gets-rumble-and-easier-21-9-support.1257268/
With FTX you can set the same resolution and I guess refresh rate as in desktop. After that I installed this: http://enbdev.com/convertor_dx8_dx9_v0035.htm
Even though Outrun comes with DX9 I think it for some reason uses DX8 - I'm not quite sure about this but I did it anyway. Next I started to look for SpecialK: https://github.com/Kaldaien/SpecialK/releases
From that list I downloaded SpecialK.7z. From that package I took SpecialK64.dll and copied it to the Outrun folder where the game's exe-file is. Then I renamed SpecialK64.dll to d3d9.dll
Since FTX creates new exe-file for the game I send shortcut of that new exe to desktop and started tweaking it's properties. In the Compatibilty tab I used that windows 8 compatibility mode as I mentioned earlier. I also checked boxes for "disable fullscreen optimizations" and "run this program as an administrator".
Oh, at some point earlier when I tried some other solution I also did something in the Shortcut tab in the properties. In the target field where it says something like this "*\Outrun Coast 2 Coast\OR2FXT.exe" I added this -force-d3d9 so the target field looks now like this: "*\Outrun Coast 2 Coast\OR2FXT.exe" -force-d3d9
I really don't know which of these things really did the trick and I spent around six hours trying different this - I even had to install the game twice after the first installation. But now it works and that is all that matters. I hope this will help.

You can confirm if it is dx8 or dx9 by using MSI AfterBurner. Enable the overlay and check the appropriate box to add it to the list.
A better choice to use for wrapping from dx8 is DGVoodoo 2

Yikes! Looks like I have my work cut out for me. Since I have a number of other games that have had an S3D problem when moving from W7 to W10, I think I'll give my dual boot a chance to make everything right. If that doesn't work, I will try to follow your path - thanks for your help!

I've been thinking about that dual boot also lately. It might make some things at least little bit easier. Although these days it feels like I enjoy solving these type of problems more than playing the game.

@Vael-taga
On my computer I purchased a removeable caddy system for SATA SSD drives this way I have 3 builds of Windows which don't depend on dual boot.

I found this is a better solution.
... as was W8 compatibility - the combination of the two have given me results in a few different DX9 games that had issues engaging S3D in W10.
Thanks again!
Great that you got it working! I've been playing Outrun like a maniac these last couple of days. I can't believe that I missed this game when it was released even though the original has been one of my favorites since 80s. I even had to dig up my wheel and pedals from the closet to play this game and the experience has been outstanding. Actually I'm kinda glad I haven't played this before. :)
D-Man11 thanks for the tip. I have Afterburner installed but for some reason I almost never use it but maybe I should start to use it.
zig11727 that is interesting solution. I've never even thought about that as an option.

Disabling full-screen optimizations was the key.
