GTX 470 SLI -> GTX 780 FTW a downgrade???
I just bought a GTX 770 after using a GTX 470 SLI setup for over 3 years. To my bewilderment, I'm getting HORRIBLE framerates using 3D Vision on the GTX 780, like...15-20 FPS at 1920x1080 on games that were getting 30-40 FPS before at the same settings (Batman:AC, Blur) My setup: Intel I7 870 @ 3ghz Asus Sabertooth 55i OCZ Agility 2 SSD 750W Cooler Master PSU EVGA Geforce GTX 780 FTW 8GB OCZ Reaper DDR3 1600 The FTW model is basically overclocked to Titan performance levels but it's worse than GTX 470 SLI? Am I doing something wrong here? Does playing games with 3D vision require SLI no matter what generation? The only thing I changed in my setup was the GPU and it's much worse than before :(

The FTW model is basically overclocked to Titan performance levels but it's worse than GTX 470 SLI? Am I doing something wrong here? Does playing games with 3D vision require SLI no matter what generation? The only thing I changed in my setup was the GPU and it's much worse than before :(

No. I can run the vast majority of games at 60fps @1080p running just an overclocked 660ti. Batman can run kind of janky in DX11 (better just to run in DX9). And don't know about Blur. If all games are giving you problems, something is wrong. One thing I've had to do with drivers of late, is make sure I force "Maximum performance" in the 3D settings of the drivers. Otherwise I could get bad performance in some games because it's dropping into reduced energy states.

I agree with Paul33993, the 780 should be quite a bit better. SLI 480 is roughly comparable to a 660ti. What driver are you using? If you didn't update, then you might have a driver that does not support the 780. In any case, try a driver update doing a clean install.

Review sites rarely compare a 470 sli to the latest 780. I needed some idea of the comparable performance so I searched the 3DMark result database. Latest 3DMark, FireStrike benchmark: 3857 2x470 + stock i7-970 8526 780 + stock i7-970 My own results 2906 560ti + stock Intel Q6600 4462 580 + stock AMD FX-8320 7159 2x580 + stock AMD FX-8320 I might have done a bad search but a single 780 should be significantly faster not the other way around.

I've kind of been wondering if I should ditch my 570 sli for a single gtx 780 as well. Just not sure how much better real world performance would be (for 3d).

Personally, I would not. While my 570SLI rig could handle just about everything I tossed at it there were some titles and specific areas in others that they struggled with. Which prompted me to upgrade.

I moved from 680 to a titan I say my games in 3D are smoother compare to my 680. I play at 1080P and most of the games all the options are maxed. I am using the WHQL 327.23 drivers.

I recently upgraded from SLI 570 to a 770, with a plan to get a second 770 (soon). Performance wise the two setups are about the same in all games I have played, with the 770 being slightly slower in most cases, with lower minimum framerates. But the difference is not much. Given that the 570 is faster than the 470, and the 780 is faster than the 770, the OP should definitely be seeing better performance with the 780 over 2x470, so something is not right with the driver installation or settings. My driver is the 331.40 beta. I suggest a *clean* driver install, and do what some others suggested by setting Power Management to Max Performance, Texture Filtering Quality to High Performance, and Threaded Optimization to On, and finally Multi-display/Mixed GPU Accel to Single Display Performance Mode. Also set Phys-X to be on the GPU (I think it defaults to CPU now).

Following up on this, I figured out one my RAM sticks had gone haywire so it was causing the massive lag. However even after fixing this the performance of a 780 GTX vs SLI 470's was still underwhelming to say the least (but no longer unplayable), but hardly worth the $600 investment for such minimal performance gains. I returned the GTX 780 and instead purchased 2X GTX 760 4GB cards, and upgraded to a new 16GB dual ram kit and the performance is MUCH improved. The 4GB might be overkill but I'm looking for this setup to last at least another 3-4 years for me so it might help at some point. Max Payne 3, Batman:AC, Blur, and other demanding games are now running near perfect at max settings, 1080p, and using 3D vision. There was no reason to believe my CPU would cause negative performance from a GPU upgrade.
