I've been around long enough that I probably should know this, but is it possible to get 3d vision working on an Nvidia equipped laptop using an external display and emitter?
I seem to remember issues with Optimus technology and a lack of ability to bypass the internal CPU based GPU?
Where I'm coming from is that I'm thinking of borrowing a laptop or buying an old one, so that I can go somewhere and test 3d vision on some of the newer TVs that support 120Hz input.
Some of the Sony's and Samsung's LED Tvs even support black frame insertion now, so I'm thinking it might be possible to get 3d vision working on them with a reasonable result.
My recent experiment with an OLED was a failure, but I'm thinking that a TV with a pulsed backlight might produce a better result.

Well if the Plug that goes to an external Monitor is used by the nVidia Card I think that was key to get that working.. I seen a recent post my D-Man that had this info ..
You should be able to see what port used by the laptop that uses the nvidia card in Control Panel..

I had this problem with my laptop too. It says to look for a laptop with a built-in 3D display, or carefully check that the laptop doesn't use Optimus before buying it.

Another possible (but less wieldy) option might be to look for a cheap laptop which might allow an external graphics card - you could take your GTX 1070 with you in an enclosure and have all its power at your disposal - even both your cards in SLi... to test a few TVs. Hilariously overkill, but a possibility that would be guaranteed to work :)

With the Alienware 17 R4 with GTX-1080 (I had the 4K screen option installed) I had absolutely no issues using it with an external 3D Vision monitor in glorious 3D Vision. Since you can switch between integrated graphics and the GTX-card (this is done by a simple button press combination) optimus doesn't get in the way.

My 3D laptop is nvidia 3d vision ready, but integrated ir emitter does not work (well, it is not detected on 3d vision setup). I tried reinstalling Windows, resetting laptop to default as just buyed but nothing.
But I connect the ir emitter from my PC tower and the screen is detected as nvidia 3d vision ready, so I can use the integrated 3D monitor without using external monitor, I still need to connect the usb ir emitter, but at least I can continue using the 3d screen.
