Ive always been impressed with IMAX documentaries. For some reason, they just seem to have greater depth than most cinema releases. Check them out. My personal favourite is: IMAX The Ultimate Wave.

You mean the IMAX stuff is actually REAL 3D =P Most of the movies are fake 3D. Tron sucks, even Avatar barely has any 'true' 3D scenes in it. Resident Evil is about the only actual movie that uses real 3D but even then they don't use all that much depth for most scenes, they do use a bit more convergence than most tho and a lot of the scenes are real 3D, compared to the rest anyway. I doubt you will really get 'true' 3D in movies for a long time yet when the masses start to accept it more, til then Resident Evil is your best bet for a showcase 3D movie. Stage 6 did a really weird one too called Dark Country which is in 3D and worth a look - most probably haven't heard of it.

Tron is horrible for 3D. Very little depth. I have seen that many, only Avatar really, but ive tested Tvs at stores a lot and Entangled is a good one, if you like that sort of thing, or maybe a girlfriend... I think there are others too, with much higher depth.

The Lion King? They might aswell have left it in 2D for the amount of effort they put into the 3D... It is movies like that which get 3D labelled as a 'gimmick'.

Supposedly James Cameron is going to put in more depth for the Titanic 3D conversion.

Tron, Avatar, etc... they do have proper 3D, but depth doesn't seem as big.

Why?

Because it's filmed for cinema.
Where you you have huge screen.

Thus separation is quite small on monitor/TV, unlike when on BIG screen (cinema), where separation is 'proper'.

Unfortunately, this cannot be fixed by adjusting convergence, but it's just how it's filmed.

So, only way to have more depth is to have bigger screen, and sit a bit further away from it.

For the 3d effect:
very good: Avatar, Resident Evil, Green Hornet, tron, pirates of the caribbean 4, most cgi kid movies are usually good
average / bad: thor (other than asgard scenes, it looks flat), priest, titans.
