Basic Guide for Passive 3DTVs, EDIDs, 4K, Upscaling
All the info in here can be found more detailed in the forum in several threads. There were so many PMs and forum questions, so creating a basic guide may be more helpful to newcomers.
Feel free to correct wrong infos and add new ones.
To be able to play games in Stereoscopic 3D with a 3DTV you need to have these:
- Nvidia GPU
- 3D Vision Emitter connected to your PC or a "Nividia 3DTV Play" license
[b]- Should I buy a 1080p or 4K, OLED or LED Passive (FPR) 3DTV?[/b]
- - Firstly, 2016 TVs are the latest 3DTVs unfortunately, there will be no 3DTV's for upcoming years. So buy one before they're all sold out. Also buy an LG for better compatibility with EDID overrides.
4K 3DTVs must be your first choice if you can afford one. 1080p TVs are not bad but there's a big visual difference between them:
FPR filter and pixels are less (almost not) visible with 4K TVs and this increases immersion greatly.
- - OLED 3DTVs are much more expensive than LED 3DTVs. Choice totally depends on your budget, if you can afford one, buy it, because they have better colors and great blacks. Disadvantage is maybe a little more input lag than LED 3DTVs.
LED 3DTVs are not bad, they also have very good image quality. So don't get upset if you can't afford an OLED, I'm very happy with my LED.

You need to use a HDMI cable,
For 1080p TVs any HDMI cable will suffice (I used many very very cheap or expensive cables and all of them worked for years)
For 4K TVs most of the HDMI 2.0 compatible cables under 3 meters will suffice. If the cable is extremely cheap it can cause issues. If the cable is longer than 3 meters it will definitely cause issues, you need to use very high quality cables or a signal booster for very long cables.
With 2016 LG TV's you can use any HDMI input except the one with ARC, read the manual to see which one is ARC.
TVs before 2016 may be a little more restrictive when choosing the right HDMI input for 3D with PC, do a liitle research if you have a 2015 or older TV.
[b]- What TV settings should I use for best 4K 3D?[/b]
For both LG LED and OLEDs HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color (In TV's general settings) must be enabled for the HDMI input that will connect to PC.
Input Icon/Symbol must be changed to "PC" for both LED and OLEDs. Otherwise 3D will have terrible ghosting, artifacts and very high input lag.
OLEDs may need some extra adjusting to settings. You can find them with a little search in this forum. Most obvious example was the eye switching issue of OLEDs, there's a specific setting for this to disable:

EDID is a identifier for your PC to know your TVs capabilities. With EDID, GPU driver will see your TV as a monitor/projector. EDID overrides are modified EDIDs, so we can have more options to use with our TVs, most used EDIDs for 3D TVs will change your TV's name in windows and NCP, so don't get alarmed, it's normal. EDIDs are obtained from TVs with a software help:

EDID overrides won't harm your TV, at least I never saw any TV or monitor broken by an EDID. But use at your own risk.
[b]- What is the advantage of an EDID Override?[/b]
With Nvidia's 3DTV Play you're restricted to 1280x720@60Hz or 1920x1080@24Hz.
With an EDID override you can play at 3840x2160@60HZ.

Before installing an EDID, connect your TV to PC.
EDID override installation is very simple. Just go to Device Manager and right click on your TV "Update Driver - Browse My Computer - Let me Pick - Have a Disk" and show the folder with the EDID you want to use and restart your PC.
If you want to try another EDID, remove the previous EDID from the folder or Windows may install it again.
If you want to uninstall an EDID, go to Device Manager again and choose uninstall and restart your PC.

If the EDID correctly installed then you'll see that your TV's name changed to "Acer HR274H" in NCP (for Joker18's EDID).
Now you can enable 3D through your control panel just like regular 3D Vision and run the stereoscopic 3D test to ensure that it's working.

As I previously mentioned without SBS or O/U you must use resolutions with 3840 pixels width, you can choose any height. For example:
3840x1645, 3840x1440, etc.
For resolutions like 2560x1440 TVs will only show double images, not 3D. Because alignment on the FPR filter is broken when width is lower than 3840. Unfortunately Nvidia's own upscaling breaks the 3D for lower resolutions.
[b]- My PC is not powerful enough for 4K 3D, is there a way to play at lower resolutions with a 4K 3DTV?[/b]
There are multiple ways to upscale lower resolutions to 4K without breaking the 3D.
- - 3DMigoto (DX11 games): 3DMigoto can convert 3D to SBS or O/U, so you can play at any resolution. You need to enable ";run = CustomShader3DVision2SBS" in d3dx.ini by removing ";". And while in game use F11 to swtich between formats. For much more detailed info read:

- - 3DMigoto's upscaling feature: With this recent addition to 3Dmigoto you can upscale any resolution to 4K without breaking the 3D. This feature still in development, so it does not support all games curently. You can use it with the latest 3Dmigoto.
To enable it with older 3D Vision fixes you need to copy everything related to upscaling in d3dx.ini to the 3DV fix's d3dx.ini and also you need to change old d3d11.dll with the new d3d11.dll and copy "upscaleps.hlsl" and "upscalevs.hlsl" files from shaderfixes folder to old shaderfixes folder. - - Tridef: With this third party stereoscopic 3D software (similar to 3DV but more advanced) you can upscale lots of games. Tridef has built in upscaling feature and it has the best upscaling quality. It will also work with some 3DV fixes but some fixes will crash it.
- - GeDoSaTo (DX9 Games): A downscaling and upscaling utility works great with some DX9 games and also can be used for injecting various effects.

my 65" is in the living room and till now I sat on the couch 2-2.5 meters from the tv. yesterday I decided to kick the table which was in the middle between me and the tv - to the side, brought a chair from another room and sat 1 meter from the screen.. and holy fuck.. the immersion is absolutely crazy.
moreover, I have 5.1 surround system (klipsch reference) and now that iv changed the position of where I'm sitting, the surround speakers are behind me (and not on the sides like before) and add greatly to the immersion I'm feeling. I'm just fucking there in the game.
go buy c6 tv don't think twice.. just make sure the fpr filter is good cuze there is variation in this area.

@skawen, it's hard to do a rating list, because I don't have the experience of all current TVs and it's a little subjective matter and a list may become misleading. I'm sure any newcomer to this will find it extremely helpful. This way of gaming in 3D is quite different, and not in intuitive ways, from gaming on a monitor. And I've struggled quite a lot initially without guides like this one.
I now consider passive 3D on OLED TV to be the best way to experience 3D vision, and the most awesome way to play games in this day and age (I've not tried projectors or VR yet), so I'm very sad that these TVs are discontinued, who knows how many people will be able to get to see this technology.
But at least we now have a super guide, hope somebody can sticky this.

Hell yes, that is what I'm talking about. I use only a 46", but from within a meter away and I think many gamers would love to use this setup, especially while VR matures. Unfortunately I think its one of those "gotta see it to believe it" things. I've pulled it much closer to walk around Skyrim (while upping the in-game FOV setting) and in some other games and it almost could work full time if only the resolution was a little higher.

As I previously mentioned without SBS or O/U you must use resolutions with 3840 pixels width, you can choose any height. For example:
3840x1645, 3840x1440, etc.
For resolutions like 2560x1440 TVs will only show double images, not 3D. Because alignment on the FPR filter is broken when width is lower than 3840. Unfortunately Nvidia's own upscaling breaks the 3D for lower resolutions.

There are multiple ways to upscale lower resolutions to 4K without breaking the 3D.
- - 3DMigoto (DX11 games): 3DMigoto can convert 3D to SBS or O/U, so you can play at any resolution. You need to enable ";run = CustomShader3DVision2SBS" in d3dx.ini by removing ";". And while in game use F11 to swtich between formats. For much more detailed info read:

- - 3DMigoto's upscaling feature: With this recent addition to 3Dmigoto you can upscale any resolution to 4K without breaking the 3D. This feature still in development, so it does not support all games curently. You can use it with the latest 3Dmigoto.
To enable it with older 3D Vision fixes you need to copy everything related to upscaling in d3dx.ini to the 3DV fix's d3dx.ini and also you need to change old d3d11.dll with the new d3d11.dll and copy "upscaleps.hlsl" and "upscalevs.hlsl" files from shaderfixes folder to old shaderfixes folder. - - Tridef: With this third party stereoscopic 3D software (similar to 3DV but more advanced) you can upscale lots of games. Tridef has built in upscaling feature and it has the best upscaling quality. It will also work with some 3DV fixes but some fixes will crash it.
- - GeDoSaTo (DX9 Games): A downscaling and upscaling utility works great with some DX9 games and also can be used for injecting various effects.

skawen.. you cant be wrong with lg c6 model. its the cheapest 3dtv.. the screen is curved but that's excellent.
my 65" is in the living room and till now I sat on the couch 2-2.5 meters from the tv. yesterday I decided to kick the table which was in the middle between me and the tv - to the side, brought a chair from another room and sat 1 meter from the screen.. and holy fuck.. the immersion is absolutely crazy.
moreover, I have 5.1 surround system (klipsch reference) and now that iv changed the position of where I'm sitting, the surround speakers are behind me (and not on the sides like before) and add greatly to the immersion I'm feeling. I'm just fucking there in the game.
go buy c6 tv don't think twice.. just make sure the fpr filter is good cuze there is variation in this area.

I'm sure any newcomer to this will find it extremely helpful. This way of gaming in 3D is quite different, and not in intuitive ways, from gaming on a monitor. And I've struggled quite a lot initially without guides like this one.
I now consider passive 3D on OLED TV to be the best way to experience 3D vision, and the most awesome way to play games in this day and age (I've not tried projectors or VR yet), so I'm very sad that these TVs are discontinued, who knows how many people will be able to get to see this technology.
But at least we now have a super guide, hope somebody can sticky this.
Hell yes, that is what I'm talking about. I use only a 46", but from within a meter away and I think many gamers would love to use this setup, especially while VR matures. Unfortunately I think its one of those "gotta see it to believe it" things. I've pulled it much closer to walk around Skyrim (while upping the in-game FOV setting) and in some other games and it almost could work full time if only the resolution was a little higher.
