Which is better..Vista 64bit or 32bit? Which os runs GeForce 3D with more compatibility and performa
Hi nVidia,

I've completed building my new system. I'm trying to decide which Vista to install in order to take full advantage of GeForce 3D vision (64bit or 32bit). Which version of Vista runs GeForce 3D with more performance and less compatibility issues? I have Core i7 with 6GB triple channel memory, so I'm leaning towards 64bit. BUT, I keep reading issues with 64bit vista such as the laser sight bug. If there are a few bugs with vista 64bit, can it be justified with a significant increase in performance if I install 64bit?
And what about games....are there a lot of game compatibility issues with 64bit edition? I'm trying to balance between compatibility and performance.
I appreciate ur advice.

Here's my full system specs:

Thermaltake Armor + Case
PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1200 PSU
ASUS Rampage II Extreme
Core i7 940
Corsair 1333MHz 6GB
Dual XFX GeForce GTX285

Dual WD VelociRaptor 300GB
Sony BWU-300S Blu-ray Burner
Sony DRU-865S DVD Burner

heres the thing, due to 32bit adressing you can only adress 4gig of ram. the pc will address memory that isnt system RAM first, like the BIOS, the cache on the hard drives and onthe dvd drives and most importantly on the graphics cards. this means you will have about 1.8gig usable memory out of your 6gig.

there is no question abou it, get 64bit on there :)

Some games you can't play in 64 bit version of vista. This is the only drawback I see in Vistat 64 bit

Thnx guys for ur advice. I'm now certain that I'll install vista 64bit coz of memory limitations. Support for 64bit windows is growing stronger and stronger since these Core i7 machines came online. The need for larger memory is more obvious. Triple channel memory is pushing users to use 64bit, and I beleive that even if there are some incompatibilities at this time, they will be addressed sooner. Enthusiast users can change the course of technology, and now we can see that most of enthusiasts are using 64bit to take full advantage of core i7 and 6GB memory.

I would love to hear from Andrew and get his advice too. The team behind Geforce 3D vision and the community is amazing. nVidia seems to be working round the clock to tweak the drivers and fix the bugs. Good job guys keep it up, and be sure that the community is backing u up.

Unless you want to play Quake 1, use 64-bit. Most of the compatibility issues have been fixed by microsoft... or maybe nvidia. Either way, all the games that wouldn't work for me when Vista came out now work well.

I'm using Vista 64 with 8 gigs of RAM. Everything seems to work the same as it did with Vista 32.

Yea if you have more then 4g then Vista 64 or Windows 7 64 when out would be the way to go. But if you have more then 4g for games .... well not money well spent.

That's not true. With only 4GB, you can't turn off the page file without running out of memory when playing bigger games (using vista at least). That's exactly the reason I went from 4 to 8.
