I purchased the 3D vision 2 kit May 1st from the egg and got it on the 3rd. Since day 1 I noticed irregular behavior from the emitter but haven't bothered trouble shooting it since I was preoccupied testing other hardware. Apparently the emitter hates USB 3.0 so for the last couple days I've tried a couple USB 2.0 rear ports. Here are some random problems I noticed on USB 2.0
1. Emitter shows no power after windows 8 boots.
[.]Unplug cable from emitter and plug back in. Success[/.]
2. Start 3D app. This could be any 3D app from YouTube to games. Emitter light stays low lite green while the app displays 3D. Emitter does not activate glasses but pushing the button will make the app switch 3D/2D like it should. But emitter will never turn bright and activate glasses. Resetting cable to emitter USUALLY has no effect.
[.]Reset emitter cable occasionally works.[/.]
[.]Launching 'Test stereoscopic 3D' occasionally forces it to work properly[/.]
[.]Disable/Apply Enable/Apply stereoscopic 3D. Works over half the time.[/.]
3. With emitter staying lite low green while app shows in 3D. I have been able to switch certain games from full screen 1080 to windowed mode 1080 and stay in 3D mode. Using the tricks above to make emitter work properly I can actually play in windowed mode without a problem.
After reading other posts of emitter problems, I played with cable to emitter. Sticking cable in about 4/5 of the way in and not all the way in actually caused the emitter to activate properly. Defective cable? emitter? flaw in design?
I will try this more often. I just hope I don't have to send this back as defective. I tossed the box away last week. Not sure how long I have to send back to Newegg for replacement.

Good find.
I've only seen 1 other poster mention that he was able to produce his symptoms by wiggling the USB cable. Nvidia should warranty it, if Newegg will not.

Could be the 'pins' in the USB slot? I know I've had trouble with these types of things seating properly before.

I've had to put tape on the back to get them to, obviously can't do that with a shielded cable though. Definitely try another cable, maybe even a HUB if you have one, or an extension.

@Kolreth
Posters have reported that certain monitors with internal emitters periodically require a power reset. So tell your friend to unplug the monitor for about 30 seconds and plug it back in.

When that Asus monitor first came out, they had some where the emitter would not activate and cause an error code http://3dvision-blog.com/6456-problems-with-asus-vg278h-3d-monitor-and-the-integrated-ir-emitter/
But as far as I know, the error has not been a problem for anyone since the early production run.

Yeah I read all that, and the funny bit was when he had 3D vision turned on in a game the giant red warning text was not coming up. other ppl have reported it working after a day or two, and it's got a year warranty so if it acts dicky again he can get it swapped.
