Official 334.67 Driver Thread for New 3D Vision Game Support Feedback

ok so I missed the initial release completely but I was pretty anxious to check it out. Unfortunately I tried AC4 and man its god damn awful. I mean sure the shadows are "ok" but I would rather play in previous 3d without shadows than what I have now. When I try to adjust convergence to my likings (which is usually pretty high) I end up with flat surface on the characters feet and several layers of textures. If you have trouble visualizing whaat I'm talking about think about rayman and its flat set of textures at different depths (for some reason I can't capture the screenshot of it, alt+F1 display "screen captured" on screen but there are none in NVStereoscopic3D.IMG maybe because they're not really 3d, not sure). That being said I would rate the new AC4 awful, granted I've been spoiled by near perfect community fixes over the years. Dont get me wrong I'm not a hater and bashing something isnt my source of satisfaction but my blood just boils when I see this so called 'big 3d news'. If this is the 'future' of 3dvision I would rather not play those games at all.

"hey I figure something: When you try to increase convergence too much it becomes flat!!! So the best I found is like BOB explained in another thread: remove you 3D glasses and crank the convergence till your avatar ( or the nearest object at the screen) is at depth screen (not dedoubled) put your 3D glasses and it's much better now! I just test it n AC liberation and I'll test this on AC4 and Splnter cell blacklist #37 Posted 01/27/2014 08:45 PM chtiblue http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/chtiblue/album/52e6c55dcb8577a00b000084/ " Alt F1 is working fine too

oh well now compare this fake 3d http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/chtiblue/image/52e6cf34cb85776a1c000112/ with real broken 3d http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/tehace/image/52f57345cb8577081200003c/ or like this one http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/tehace/image/528a8e64cb8577177f000006/ sorry nvidia i'm just not buying it... I hope nvidia didnt get all the criticism the wrong way. If you need a random real life analogy lets assume we as a community are a homeless guy on a street and we keep asking this business man (nvidia) that passes us everyday for something to eat and than one day the guy give us a sandwich, we're happy at first for the fact that we're going to get something to eat but as it turn out the sandwich is moldy because it was in the business' mas suitcase for god knows how long. Seriously what are we going to do with it? Eat it ourselves just to see how it taste? Sure lets try it, it might not be that bad. Oh god it is... Share it with friends? Definitely not! As we realise what we got we say 'no thank you' and the business man is upset because he did gave us food that is oh well better than nothing I suppose.

Lol. Great analogy ... although in this case we're 'homeless' because we bought Mr. Business Man's product. So what you're saying is it's back to fending for ourselves and rummaging through the dumpsters for something more appealing? :)

lol yeah we have only ourselves to blame ;) all Im saying is that the businessman acted like he didnt know that we have a lot of great cooks at the shelter we use to eat that are really passionate about food and they all make amazing meals for free ;p so we do know how good food taste.

Heh, this analogy is getting better and better. Those cooks at the homeless shelter sure do know how to serve up a delicious steaming hot meal! However they're starting to see ingredient shortages, and unless they can find a new source of ingredients and learn to cook with them (DX11 wrapper), we could be in trouble. A couple of them are hard at work negotiating with suppliers though, I'm optimistic.

I still can't believe the BIG Mid-January announcement that we all waited for turned out to be this Fake 3D crap. Totally off of what I though it might have been. Some Bullshit fix out of nowhere for nothing. Anyone that can stand playing with this Fake 3D crap must be blind or something. It's just terrible. Moldy sandwich is right, with some nasty blue cheese, I hate blue cheese. Fake 3D is Moldy blue cheese Nvidia. Nasty and Yukky OK. Stop it, don't do it, don't waste your time.

I tried the "fake" 3D with AC Black Flag, and I surely must be blind, since I don't think it is as bad as some of you (which age, I wonder?) are stating here. May be it has something to do with the fact that I have no problem with adjusting convergence to a very low setting. That way it's definitely quite bareable, and definitely much better than playing in 2D would be. On the other hand: Of course it is not "the real deal". Real, not "fake" 3D means less eye strain (for me), almost no artifacts, a palpable 3D effect and MUCH MORE depth. Of course it's a shame that Nvidia apparently hasn't taken any substantial steps to provide its costumers - who payed a lot to get access to 3D Vision and regularly buy the most expensive latest graphics cards - with adequate graphics on the majority of "newer" (DX11) games. For years. But coming from complete negligence by Nvidia, this "fake" 3D is something we have to see as an improvement, a step into the right direction. And as such it deserves constructive criticism, not the furious bashing of some folks around here ...

@sebRab You're of course right, the "bashing" is not constructive, but you cannot say it's unexpected. There are most likely many criteria - from personal biologic idiosyncrasies, to hardware setup differences - that make all our comments here highly subjective in nature (For example people trying AC3 or 4 in fake 3D after playing the other AC games in 2D, or maybe playing fake 3D on a projector, might be more tolerant) But I've never been able to stand any of the "fake 3D" Crysis games, and although I never tried the recent nVidia fake 3D with an Assassin Creed game, I can only imagine how horrible the experience might be, accustomed as I am with the incredible 3D of Brotherhood/Revelations. I adored these games in 3D, and I dare say - all the more so because of the pefect nVidia 3D (well, when I say "perfect" I mean plus or minus some great fixes from Eqzitara - you're the man :-)) Let's hope this is just a small step in nVidia's renewed interest for their 3D Vision customers.

@Zappologist: As I said, I suppose my rather positive experience with AC IV probably relies on lowering convergence to a point where others may lose interest in 3D. But I have always played like this, because I can't stand it when the main character pops out like he is a puppet - which may be an effect of my monitor setup (sitting ~35cm from the screen). Of course it all is subjective - but I HAVE played II, Brotherhood, Revelations and even III (lacking any fixes to date) in "true" 3D (Helix and Co. be praised!), so I too know what I'm talking about. And as I said, AC IV, with appropriate settings, is definitely playable in 3D (in big contrast to III) and a much more immersive experience than it were in 2D. No need to be too grateful towards Nvidia. In my opinion they have treated their 3D Vision customers in an unacceptable way. But this "fake" 3D - with Black Flag on appropriate settings - is still an improvement compared to the status quo of the last 2 or 3 years.

"Do not shoot the pianist!" Maybe are we aiming at the wrong target. The culprits are still developers who do not manufacture Ready 3D games. And despite that, the price of these under-developed games remains the same as others. Or maybe I'm all wrong and games are developed in permanent collaboration Developers <> Nvidia...? Anyway, in this case, for the 3d fake, I think it's a spare wheel supplied by Nvidia because developers don't move. For that, I say them thank you!

Too many people play with too high a convergence and not enough separation, which is compounded by the fact that nVidia caps the separation at an unreasonably low value. It has to be hacked for a proper experience. The same train of thought that led to the demise of the 3D movie industry with the management thinking "oh it will give people headaches, better play safe"; thereby destroying any wow factor of 3D and making it appear as a gimmick. The added disadvantage of high convergence is that yes, although you get pop-out and "wow", you also get "toyification" where the whole scene seems to be on a table top. For best 3D experience, there should be virtually no pop-out. The main character should be wholly into the screen (just touching it), and the separation should be as high as your eyes can take. This gives the impression of a "real" world, and is actually easier on the eyes with a better overall experience than high convergence. Added advantage is that this is where this fake 3D driver shines - low convergence, high separation. I have just completed AC3 with it. Compared to the mess we had before, it is a huge improvement. I'll be starting AC4 when I get some more spare time. I do agree, however, that although this step is positive, it is in the wrong direction. I can practically guarantee that instead of nVidia trying to fix games to work in real 3D, they will now just try to make them work with fake 3D and call it a day. Their laziness knows no bounds. I have been experiencing their BS since the old TNT days back in the 90s. Don't think for a second that they have your interest at heart. To them it's an equation of minimum effort vs most profitability, and this fake 3D driver fits the bill exactly. Granted, this is how every company operates, but nVidia are just more blatant and short sighted about it by delivering a shoddy product on the cheap which in the short term fixes some problems, but in the long term destroys the 3D market as people affirm their beliefs as 3D being a nasty gimmick. I could go on and on, but I would just be being a hypocrite, as I have bought their high end cards regardless at every other generation. It's a love-hate relationship ;-)
