Dishonored 2 - 3D vision
  3 / 18
I've taken a look via family sharing from a friend, and in it's current state I don't believe the game is fixable. I say this not based on the shaders, but on how poorly it performs. I'm running a GTX 1070 paired with an i5 4690k @ 4.5ghz. My 3D framerates ranged between good (locked 60) and very poor (25) on ultra settings, and mostly reasonable on medium. However the real concern is how inconsistent performance is, mostly based on the direction you're looking. If I had to guess, I'd say they haven't properly implemented occlusion culling, so the engine is constantly trying to render geometry that is obscured from the player's line of sight. Even worse is the mouse control. To put it bluntly, it's hot garbage. The speed of mouselook is determined by your framerate. When your framerate is high, your mouse is very slow. When your framerate drops, your mouse speed increases. It makes the game unpleasant to play in 2D, and once you factor in the 3D performance hit it becomes basically unplayable on anything above medium settings - and even then, it's not pleasant. If/when the devs patch it up, there looks to be a very solid game here. But right now, it has serious problems - especially if you're not sporting some pretty high-end hardware. It may be possible to fix it visually, but it's not likely to be "playable" in 3D without some serious TLC from the developers.

A little patch and here we go, there is clearly something wrong when you go from 60fps to 25 fps in same area ;)

They may be able to patch it, but the Void Engine is based on ID Tech 5, which is not well optimised in general (as opposed to ID Tech 6, which is outstanding).

Hi guys, sorry for the noob question, but How the hell did you manage to enable and test 3dvision with Dishonored2?? It desesperately loads in 2d whatever the display options (fullscreen etc...). I have tons of games working fine in 3dvision but this one doesn't even loads it.

It has to be run in exclusive fullscreen mode, that's about it. If it doesn't work, run DDU, reinstall your drivers, and try again. http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html Honestly though, I wouldn't bother right now. It looks like garbage, and runs just as poorly. If Arkane manage to fix it, there are fixers interested in looking at it. But in it's current state, it's not going anywhere.

I hope in spite of the poor performance people will look into a fix for this.. The 1080ti should be here in a couple of months (I know I'm getting one) and perhaps that will help a little. I would rather play this game in 3dvision on medium settings or with shadows or other problems disabled than play it in 2d.

If they don't fix the performance, I'd suggest it's probably not worth putting in the significant time and effort needed to create a fix that only people with top-tier graphics cards can run in 3d (on medium). But hey, that decision lies with the people making the fix. A new beta patch was just released that's meant to help with performance, I'll take a look and report back later.

Yep, just looked at it. Framerate is definitely more stable, mouse movement is no longer dependent on framerate (wtf). However having a working mouse has revealed negative mouse acceleration - the faster you move your mouse, the smaller the rotation you make. It's bizarre. Performance still needs some work - I was frequently seeing drops down to 35ish fps in 3D (ultra settings on a GTX 1070 paired with a 4690K @ 4.5ghz and 16gb ram), but it's a step in the right direction.

Thanks Pirateguybrush, but that's the problem here: no fullscreen exclusive option in the video menu (only fullscreen or windowed or wondowed without border) maybe I have to change another setig so that option become available but I don't find it

"Fullscreen" is fullscreen exclusive. Try the DDU link above.

But maybe I am just lucky with my rig or the game is heavily on VRAM on soft on normal RAM and CPU... because those two suck on my rig.

Yeah, I think you did get lucky. The huge number of poor Steam reviews point to significant problems. They are making improvements though, hopefully they resolve everything.

I recently purchased this on Sale from Steam and like mrorange55 said, the reports of bad performance are greatly exaggerated. In 2d the game runs between 60-120+ fps on my rig with everything maxed out at 1440p (DSR on a 720p projector). Playing with 3d enabled it runs at 30-60 fps which is expected, obviously the 3d is pretty broken without a fix. I'm not in a hurry to play this since i have a fairly large back catalog of games to catch up with but I was wondering if there was anything that was stopping the game from being fixed, e.g. compute shaders or things that needed to be changed in 3dmigoto itself. If so i'd rather just play it now that keep on waiting in vain. and don't get me wrong I'm not trying to rush anyone, I'm just wondering on the status. I know that fixing games can be time consuming, I tried to fix INSIDE (unsuccessfully unfortunately) so I'm very thankful for all the work that goes into creating a fix.
