LOL at the 3D haters

I was reading this thread over at 120Hz.net and laughing at the comments. http://120hz.net/showthread.php?1222-Thinking-about-3d-but.... Crackatoah says...."I wouldn't sell your card just to get 3D. I tried out 3D when I was changing cards anyway, and it was very cool and good for a week but after that it was just a chore. Im glad I tried it out, but its not worth buying the kit for it let alone changing GPU's for it. Im yet to know anyone who actually uses it apart from their first 1/2 weeks of loving it." HyperMatrix then says......"I'm in agreement with Cracka. =D 3D is a neat "gimmick" but running 3D means 60hz performance (per eye) so all in all I think you'll have a more enjoyable experience with 2D 120hz than 3D 60hz." HyperMatrix then goes on to say......."You're right that I'm not particularly familiar with 3D equipment. Or many other things, for that matter. So thank you for the kind words but I would not call myself an expert. I based my statement off some information I've read, and experiences with 3D movies and 3D games on a monitor at a local computer store a couple years ago. So I will point out a few concerns here that lead me to question the smoothness of 120hz 3d compared to 120hz 2d." JUST A GIMMICK no more...no less

Funny because I personally can't even play ANY game that is not in 3D anymore. I don't care how great people say it is, if it's not 3D, I wont buy it. The one and only exception is NHL 13 on PS3.

Yeah, nevermind the it "properly lays the world out in front of you" bit and IS a porthole to a holodeck only limited by resolution and current graphics technology and field of view. Well, and a few other things depending on the display to be honest, which probably would explain much of the negativity, like dimming, crosstalk, reduced contrast, mis or unconfigured settings -all solvable problems. I think 2d -> 3D conversions have large negative effect on peoples view of 3D in general. Had only Avatar, Prometheus, Hugo, The Hobbit and some of the animated films been done in 3D, then i doubt we would see anything but generally positive views. Also, it doesn't help that the convergence point in movies shrinks with the size of the display so 3D watched at home has less dimensionality unless you back way, way up and reduce the FOV to less immersive levels. Speaking of field of view, these small monitors have a very low FOV at normal viewing distances and i think thats part of the problem. I've got a VG278H, and I really hate using it over my 46". I doubt many new 3D users are going to bother trying to pull their monitors closer to them for a larger FOV. My keyboard has to be up on the base to match my 46"s FOV.

46" Samsung ES7500 3DTV (checkerboard, high FOV as desktop monitor, highly recommend!) - Metro 2033 3D PNG screens - Metro LL filter realism mod - Flugan's Deus Ex:HR Depth changers - Nvidia tech support online form - Nvidia support: 1-800-797-6530

I haven't really been using it for that long but I too struggle to play games in 2D now. I'm just beginning to have used it enough to where I'm less wow'ed by it, and instead just immersed, switching to 2D just feels totally disconnected. But the problems are obvious, crosstalk and FPS hits are annoying, but waaaaay worth it.

I have noticed, at least for my experience, I usually have to put some effort in to getting my PC games configured or using helixmod to get to my liking. I hate games with locked convergence, pisses me off to no end. Thankfully the games that I have with locked convergence can be set up for unlocking. Also, without Helix mod and community fixes, pickins would be slim. I have been recently spending several hours with Dark Souls with the DSFix and Helixmod. Now another great game in 3D and a challenging game at that, love it! Thats the beauty of the PC as a game platform, mods and fixes! I have to tweak most games to eliminate some of the things you've mentioned here and the effort is always worth it. Searching the web and using this site http://helixmod.wikispot.org/ is a must for 3D gamers. As far as I am concerned, the PC reigns king as a game platform...

Its a trick for sure. I can see why some of us can get so frustrated. 3D gamers are battling against misconceptions and daft design policies on so many fronts. Even the party who should be very our top advocate doesnt help! nVidias bizaar policy of setting the default depth so low and hiding the ESSENTIAL convergence setting deep inside the control panel! I felt dismayed the first tried a game using 3D Vision at its default settings! It did look gimmicky. Presumambly thats how 3D is demoed in shops. The poster mentioned above would suggest that. PC gamers are arguably a niche market; 3D PC gamers are even more so. We find it frustrating because we know, from personal experience 3D gaming works. If you have spent a bit of time learning how to set it up properly, for most of us, there is simply no going back to 2D. How do you send the message out amoungst all that apathy?

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I know what you mean about now wanting to game in 2D anymore, I used to play in 3D back in the 90s but then the explosion of LCDs over CRTs kinda killed that, so when I got a taste of it again on PS3/360, I was hooked but not enough games actually supported it. That's why I built a 3D gaming rig just for my TV. And now it's even worse, the difference between console gaming in 3D and pc gaming in 3D is night and day! Most console games barely gave you any separation at all and forget about convergence. Heck, I even went out and bought a 3ds XL. I think I need help. :D

there is 3D, your average "3D" like in the movies theatres, TVs and such and there is the Real 3D, with 3D Surround View which is in a whole completely other level i think the only thing that will ever come close to 3D surround view, will possibly be Oculus Rift, which has its own Cons & Pros as well. other than that everything else shown at the CES 2013 are just "waporware" that might or might not get funded by big guys like Samsung to bring it to your living room.

3D may be good if you have 20/20 vision, but my son and I have somewhat poor eyesight and 3D looks terrible. Pics look weird.

Is Sony a "Hater", let's hope not Lastly, Sony has put another nail in the coffin of 3D as a killer feature. While discussing plans for 4K content on the new console, Yoshida downplayed the one-time fad: "3D was a big thing a couple of years ago," IGN quotes him as saying, "and we liked what we could do on PS3 using 3D stereoscopic. But now the consumer electronics side of Sony, or all of the companies have shifted focus from 3D TV to something else, so if they're not talking about it, why would we?" http://www.theverge.com/2013/2/21/4013938/sony-discusses-existing-purchase-support-downplays-3d-gaming-for-ps4 They have since stated the PS4 will have 3D support, but to what extent.

Who cares, now with the dx11 wrapper and OR, I can skip the next gen consoles entirely and will probably get a new card instead.
