Drakensang: reducing disturbing ghosting and halo effects
I liked the first Drakensang a lot because of its fantastic graphics. Besides from that it offers very good S3D gameplay - if You turn off the shadows and AA. And there is of course the usual problem with the mouse pointer being at the wrong depth. But as You also can use WSAD keys to navigate Your character it is not very disturbing.
So I was quite dissappointed when I started the demo of the new Drakensang - The River of Time. The "improved graphics" resulted (as usual) in disturbing ghosting effects caused by bloom and blur posteffects. There also are strange halo effects caused by water surfaces (and there are many: the RIVER of time!). By setting the general graphic quality to "low" most of these disturbing effects dissappeared - but also some important graphic details as 3D gras on the ground. So the picture was clear but poor
Luckily I found a solution to solve this problem:
Start the game and set in options the general graphic quality to low. Turn off shadows and AA. Now RESTART the game and load a savegame. Then pause, go to graphic options and set the general graphic quality to high. DON'T RESTART THE GAME but continue playing: There are still (almost) no disturbing posteffects but 3D gras etc. is back again :)
Before You finish the game don't forget to set the general graphic quality to low again. Otherwise You get these disturbing posteffects when You start the game the next time.
This solution also works with the first Drakensang (but is not really necessary as there are not many ghosting effects even with high quality graphic settings).
Unfortunately I couldn't find any ini-files that allowed to turn off the disturbing effects separately so You have to use the trick above.
Update:
Atteched some pictures from the demo. To me it is one of the best looking RPGs I've played the last months.

My original display name is 3d4dd - for some reason Nvidia changed it..?!
Update: The trick also works with the final version :)
In some dungeons there is some haze on the floor that causes ghosting. To prevent this reduce depth to minimum and increase the convergence to get enough 3d effects. As this haze appears most notably in dungeons the reduced depth isn't a problem.

In the last days I've gained some experiences that allowed me to solve the last problems with Drakensang The River of Time.
Disturbing halo effects and reflections caused by some water surfaces: Rename drakensang.exe (or drakensang1a.exe) in the installation folder to ofdr.exe. Now these effects will disappear. You can also turn on the shadows. I still use the trick with changing the general graphic quality from low to high as this reduces ghosting.
Haze on the floor and godrays in some dungeons causing halo effects: Using the experimental iZ3D driver solves this problem (see http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=198856).
