Get the latest version of Custom Resolution Utility, and use it to set the monitor's Device ID to 'ZMT2400', and restart the driver. That unlocks the 'Optimized for Geforce' 3D mode (passive)... And you should then be able to enable 3D in the nvidia control panel.
Use 3D Fix Manager to install 3DMigoto for your game, and set the display output to either SBS-reversed or TAB-reversed.

Do custom resolutions through nvida control panel not work in 3D? Last time I tried it did. I usually just create a custom resolution in CRU for VR anyway (at a target refresh rate).
Depends on the use case...
If using in VR, view the desktop in VR, then change to resolution created in CRU. Monitor will go dark... But new resolution is applied in VR. Just be sure to have a method to change back to default res in case you crash (switching monitor port works).
If using on a monitor/TV, the scaling function in 3DMigoto works... But Alt-Tab will break it.
Does the discover method give the same results? (Is the 3D content the same?) I've never tried it to compare.
