MGS2 PC in 3D?
so yesterday I was excited to see if the PC port of Metal Gear Solid 2 would work in 3d Vision(I had read minor snippets of evidence that it would or at least that it did in older versions of 3D vision) Anyway it didnt work at first but after a few times restarting the game to adjust settings and controls i tried pressing the green button on the emitter again and to my surprise It worked. Looking at the screen without the glasses I could see the left and right images overlapping unlike in the earlier attempt however I didnt see much of a 3D effect other than the HUD being above the rest of the game, this is a great start but the problem is I cant get it to work again and I have no idea what I did to make it work the first time. I literally did nothing to try and make it work so It makes no sense that it would suddenly just decide to work and then stop again. I think It was probably just 'fake' 3d but doesnt that require a lot tweaks first to activate it in a game? also I've only seen a fake 3d tutorial for DX11 games... MGS2 is DX8. Any ideas? thanks

DX8 can work. Warcraft 3 works. I cant speak for a particular game but it might be on wrong profile. ------------------------------------------- The MGS2 port on PC is notoriously known as a really bad pc port from what I remember and I really don't doubt it since Japanese companies are still having trouble. I would even worry about compatibility issues with running now since it was probably an early windows XP game. If you bought it you should feel no shame in finding an emulator version of it.

I knew there had to be an alternative route for unsupported games other than just pressing the emitter button and hoping for the best, just needed a bit of guidance from a more knowledgeable user. hopefully Ill be able to get it running in proper 3D now instead of the fairly unexciting 'fake' 3d that I caught a glimpse of yesterday.

It offers enhanced textures and effects to go along with natively supported high resolutions, while on the emulator your rendering in high resolutions on a game designed only for 480p

Thought that maybe there was some work added new textures into console version but apparently I am thinking of gamecube version. It does sound like pc version is better.

Well i tried changing the profile but It didnt help, I noticed that MGS2 already had a Nvidia profile that I had to delete inorder to change it to a different one so this explains how it worked at all but doesnt explain why it only worked once. Is there any else that I could do or am I out of luck?

If the previous profile was only stereoizing the menu/ui, then you definitely need to try another profile. The profiles in the link are examples of good ones to try, who knows how many that you might have to try before finding a decent one. You might try the same thing that TsaebehT did on Red Faction 1. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/573585/3d-vision/red-faction-1/post/4845311/#4845311

Red Faction was an Odd Duck, prior to DGVoodoo adding dx8 support, there was no way to make it work. Every other dx8 game that I've tried, I have not had a problem with. Although I do not have MGS2. GL

GL
No luck with the Red Faction fix but lots of luck with changing the colour depth! for whatever reason the game has to be in 16 bit for 3d to work, by default the game used a 16 bit resolution so thats why it worked the first time. the problem arose when I created a custom resolution of 1440x1080 to make use of all the pixels on my monitor, I never thought to also add a 16bit version of this resolution so even when I chose 16bit in MGS2's settings to see if it would fix the problem it was actually still 32 bit. edit: its actually not just 16 bit but specific 16 bit resolutions that work, very annoying because all of them are stretched widescreen and non-native to my monitor Edit 2: before I make a new thread I may aswell ask here, I want to reset the Nvidia profile back to default after adding the Red Faction Fix but I dont want to reinstall the drivers because all my settings get wiped, is there somewhere I can find the default profile .txt file to replace it with?

When messing with profiles, it's a good idea to follow the first 4 steps in this guide so that you can import the original profiles if needed. I uploaded a profile export, but it's stuck in scanning. If it ever uploads, rename it from .jps to .txt

Or you export what you have now and copy and paste the following into an export, the import it. Profile "Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance" ShowOn GeForce ProfileType Application Executable "mgs2.exe" Setting ID_0x1033cec1 = 0x00000003 Setting ID_0x1033dcd2 = 0x00000002 Setting ID_0x1095def8 = 0x02404001 EndProfile

Actually, all you have to do is paste it in a text file, then import it.
