Deus Ex Mankind Divided keeps trying to do 3D but goes black screen and then tries over and over
I've seen other native 3d games do this before, and I remember it doing this on release too, but I found a way around it... This time, I saw it properly do 3d at the title screen once, and then I enabled stereo in the display settings and it's gone back to this loop where my screen goes black, the 3d light on my monitor and glasses lights up, a bit of sound plays, then black again. It seems like the 3d in the game, and the 3d my computer is doing are fighting each other. I've been messing around with booting with exclusive full screen, and not, and with stereo on, or not... Whats the secret to getting around this loop bug?

maybe you can try to disable fullscreen optimizations on the DXMD.exe ... worked for me in windows 10. the info is somewhere in the forum , I think . regards steps

Try ctrl+t just once to turn off 3D, let the game settle down, then restart 3D with control+t. It will flash again and take a little bit to settle down again. But it should then be working in 3D. I think the intro videos are having trouble launching, it must be the file format that they are encoded in or the player being used to render them.

Another option is to set Refresh Rate to 120hz (when running the game with Stereoscopic 3D disabled). Or set refresh rate to 120hz globally in the display profile of 3D Fix Manager. That's the best option because it fixes the issue for several games. I've forgotten to add a note for this in the Deus Ex profile of 3DFM. To understand the issue: On Windows 7 the Nvidia 3D Vision driver was able to force 120hz refresh rate ingame without any problems. 120hz is required to make 3D work. In Windows 10 however Microsoft added a mode called "Fullscreen optimizations". This makes the Nvidia driver fail to force 120hz for some games and the game tries to enter maximum refresh rate of your monitor (which is often 144 hz or higher). The Nvidia driver however tries to push 120hz over and over again but fails - this causes the loop. At least this is my understanding of what goes wrong. Nvidia or Microsoft never fixed this issue. But now Nvidia found a way what to do with this issue: drop 3D Vision support. That finally fixed the issue *irony off*

I think you both are right with the full screen optimizations settings could be a possible issue, if he is indeed on W10. But I installed the game and have this very same problem of it flashing repeatedly on W7. My desktop is at 120Hz and I think it's more related to the implementation made within the game and is more of an issue with the way that they are trying to build the exclusive fullscreen window. If you tab out of the game, it switches to window mode and then when you tab back in, it flashes until it rebuilds exclusive fullscreen. Only using ctrl+t resolved the issue at the start. After that, it eventually resolved on it's own each time I tabbed out. It was weird, because an achievement procced while getting 3D to work.

Could be the way Nixxes implements 3D without using the driver. Like in last Tomb Raider maybe NVidia broke the profile...?

I have Windows 10 Pro 1709 and I finished Deus Ex Mankind Divided a few months ago on a GTX 1080ti. I didn't experience any such issues. I always set desktop to 120hz as well as in game. I had driver 388.59 at the time. I have deferred windows feature updates to max which is a year.
