Why do Glass Beaded Screens get a bad rep? Surely its ideal for PC Gaming
I'm saying its ideal because although the image gets worse the further you leave the central viewing angle - why would you do that if your playing games anyways? Your going to be sat in one position, facing the middle of the screen. If the projector is placed around 10 inches above your head, then surely you'll be getting 90% the light reflected back to you, giving you a brighter picture for 3d.

Is anyone using a glass beaded screen and can verify the quality of the 3d images? I'm not talking about da lite high power, cos that is so expensive. But for a first time screen i think its ideal. It also means i dont have to paint my room a darker colour to reduce ambient light lol less hassle. I think those screens have a gain of around 2 where a matt white is 1.1.

To summarise, is glass beaded better than matt white?

Triostine! this thread is calling you lol

quick update : this is the screen i'm thinkin of getting http://www.allcam.biz/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=188

Cheap. Another quick question, is placing the DLP pojector better to be slightly above the head? or on table top? for this kind of screen.

Hey!

The cheap glass beaded is not so good because , the glass beads themselves are 60-70 micrometer in area, this results in visible grain.
(Probably you can do better by buying the beads and sort it. Plus commercial cheapo glass beaded screen is easily damaged, no cleaning, etc. Diy glass beaded is better than cheapo commercial retroreflective, also silverscreen fabric can be had for that kinda money, here the "even-ness" factor comes into play, beads vs. fabric. vs silverpaint )

The expensive , united states DA Lite Hi power is very good choice, lot of people like it for 2d over avsforums, the glass beads are smaller than 10 uM , no visible grain.

Shame you cant really buy these anywhere else whereas in US you can buy the material too.

I just obtained this material its in transit right now. With glass beaded ,for maximum brightness you have to line up the projector with your head . If thats ok for you , then great.

Silverscreen I bought is suitable for ceiling mount pj and dual projection polarized 3d ( that Im going to try soon).

thank you for reply mate :) really appreciate it.

That material you suggested looks very good. I wonder if 2D images will be displayed on it properly as well.

The grain isn't usually horrrible, unless you're very close to the scren.
The other issue with glass bead screens is that in order to get the additional gain the projection angle has to be close the the viewing angle.
i.e. usually to get the gain you can't ceiling mount the projector.
