I had a few issues getting the original fix going (and now I cant remmeber what I did to fix it.) but when I finally did it was near perfect apart from a couple of areas later on in the game

I normally would but they dont work anymore with the new pathes and things have significantly changed. I was hoping to hold off my play through until a fix came out even if its not perfect.

Hi,
I would normally not press in this way, but I am just returning from a four weeks vacation hoping that Mike would have had time enough. Now I see his last promise that he *will* put an update out is already one month ago...
So Mike if you are still around: are you still planning to put the update out? I would very much appreciate it! I tried to do some fixes following Bo3bs instructions but it turns out that I get crashes too often and too quickly to achieve anything useful...
Many thanks for your efforts!

I've been fixing Watch Dogs. DOS is next on my list. It will probably be the last game I fix, so keep up with bo3b's lessons :-)

We'll all be sorry to see you go, Mike. Sounds like you're helping bo3b out with his lesson plans, which is great. I hope you stick around to assist him/us when we get stuck on the more difficult later stages. Either way though, thanks again for everything :)

Mixed feelings, I feel very lucky that this game is going to be the last you fix since I want it the most, even over Watch Dogs and many others, but it's really sad to see you go Mike.

After reading the latest from the developer I am a little nervous about this game, seems like there maybe further changes to the engine inc
"We’re also improving the engine itself as well as adding a bunch of extra features that not only make D: OS more fun and more friendly to players, but that will also improve whatever our next offering will be. We’re also adding extra content, like for instance the big companion patch, voiced et al, and I imagine that won’t be the last of what we’ll add."
I Hope this doesnt mean that any changes would be for naught once an update hit...

OK I've done a bit of work on this now. I have two main issues: (a) some outside shadows wobble, which is super annoying, and I can't seem to remove it (b) I have not worked out indoor shadows yet, they render a bit too deep under the ground. I guess the hud could do with having some elements pushed to depth (markers for example) as well.
I can disable the indoor shadows, things still look pretty good, but the wobbly/shaky outdoor shadows are a bit of a show stopper right now. This did not happen with the alpha release fix I did, so I am scratching my head a bit.

Based on what Necropants said, it may be worth putting this patch on hold for a little longer until they've finished tinkering? This is one I've been really looking forward to, but it seems pointless to fix it now if there's a good chance they'll break it all again next week.

Yeah I was thinking about doing that, but then decided that it would never get done. The game updates don't change the structure of the shaders or how they need fixing, just changes crcs or adds more shaders. I am going to put a fix out, and document (in the Blog) how to apply that to subsequent game updates if need be. Someone will need to do it, of course, but perhaps Bo3b can add this game as a "case study" in his shaderschool so it will specifically get explained to people.

I have a WIP. Known issues:
1. Some shadows shake, but I removed most of it
2. Indoor dynamic shadows are only approximate right now
3. Water reflection are approximate right now
4. There is at least one special effect (when you pick shells on the beach) that renders wierd (lines extend out from the character). I have no idea what else\might do this.
5. HUD is all at screen depth still, including markers. I can't find a shader to move the mouse cursor.
Still, I reckon it's playable right now.
