I don't know you guys....but this fake3D is not good, in many aspect... this have 2 direct negative impacts:
1) Others that are introduced in the 3D world, will look this and throw shit. Bad comments spread more quickly than Good comments....devs hear this comments (twitter, facebook, forums, others) and slowly go away from this tech...because people says it (that's the way companies works)
2) if we accept this Fake3D...Nvidia will come with more of this type of solutions...because we says Thanks! and we says is OK (This is conformism). And this is not even 3D. There are like 10+ threads asking for SBS or TB modes in 2 or 3 years period (with a lot of views and responses) and Nvidia do nothing...we have NONE thread asking or even mentioned this Fake3D (and the few times Tridef Fake3D is mentioned, we throw shit) and nvidia implements...LOL... Nvidia is not listen to its customers.
The only good thing here, after 2 - 3 years, is we at least have some kind of response/feedback from nvidia (for good or bad) and the attention of one nvidia employee, thanks for that SteveK!!
Also realize, that the target user for this mode is likely not a member of this forum - in that most of you are well-versed with applying many of the excellent user-created mods that are out there.
Who are your target users/customers? Your most loyalty customers are HERE!!! not elsewhere.
If you think you're winning territory with people with old GPU / old rigs and this Fake3D may run well (good fps) in their machines...and results of that they will invest in new GPU/new rigs....you 're walking in the wrong direction (read again point 1)
About Tridef, i tested in severals games (and compare to 3D vision)....and i can tell is a better driver than Nvidia, have more options, have on the fly fixing shaders (user friendly), have OR support, have more 3D modes availables (including SBS and TB), have a better Fake3D (yes is better than nvidia one), etc......and has a company, they full support the driver, they have monthly (at least) releases of the driver and profiles (news and improvements). I can upload screenshots of games i play with Tridef, they looks amazing....the other day i attach some AC4 comparative screenshots, they speak for themselves.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/dhr/AC4_Comparison.zip
The only thing i say about Tridef is not good, is don't have one by one fixing shader, so Crosshair and HUD elements are most of the time not fixed, so for example crosshair have to be in-game/tweak disable and use the dynamic one provided by the driver (that works perfect in all games).
Also performance, at least for me, is not bad....normally play at 60fps, and more demanding games between 40 and 60 fps (using 1080p Top Bottom)....the only game i have a poor performance is AC3, but that is one game, that clearly is not optimized.

I can reinstall the drivers and try to figure out a solution for the 'loops until changed'(my fav) if it's happening with all the '3D Compatibility' games. The other issue with the [s]3D Compati[/s] 2D Vision games, is that when using a Depth Hack to achieve relatively the same amount of Depth as your usual, the 'Haloing' is pretty extreme and I think I read that there's more of a performance hit, not sure if that's still the case.

What I meant by the "not for users of this forum" was in response to the heavy amount of you that use and prefer the user-created mods over CM. Apologies - I should have put more consideration into how I phrased that.
This new mode is not meant as a replacement for user mods. However, I don't think many of you realize the large number of 3DV users out there that do not use these mods. Also remember, we're talking about a small number of games that use the new mode. This is a "value add" in that we're adding a new capability that we think many people that already own the hardware will benefit from. And if the quality is not there for anyone with a particular game we've now made it so you don't have to use it.

@SteveK - There is a lot of mention about the negative impact this depth buffer solution might have on new users, because it looks flat, but it's potentially even worse than this. Nvidia have the depth setting default set to 15% in the control panel, so put that on top of a low depth buffer image in the first place and any new user coming to this and seeing a depth buffer game really will experience a totally flat 2D image on the screen, and they really might not have a clue what is going on. At the very least Nvidia should force a 100% depth setting whenever depth buffer is activated, but it's not doing this.

We appreciate this "value add" and some may use it, but can you tell us if you plan on working with developers to help them implement 3D vision? or is 3D vision itself finished? The last few 3D vision ready games were sequels to games that you helped the developer implement 3D vision as part of your Nvidia "the way it's meant to be played" program. (Metro last light, and Batman Archam City) Since then we have had NO 3D VISION READY GAMES.

Like I said before this 3D Compatibility mode wouldn't be so bad if it was implemented differently, if it worked like 3D Vision Automatic with any and every game, say Ctrl+Alt+T(why they chose the whatever+F11 combo makes no sense to me) toggles it on and something pops up saying it's been enabled/disabled but again blanket tech that works with any and every game.
Speaking of any and every game, personally I'd like a way to play the older games that used to work with the legacy stereoscopic drivers, that are still extremely imbedded in 3D Vision, pre DX9 games and OpenGL(non-quad buffered) games. A lot of these games played perfectly(besides HUDs/Crosshairs) and it's a shame that there's just no way to play them anymore ... I'm sure a lot more 3D Vision users would be in favor of that over the fake 3D ... and it seems like it should be something that's a lot easier to implement. :)

Based on where this thread has gone I need to choose my words more carefully :-)
I can not say with certainty one way or the other - it definitely has become much more challenging in the current 3D market to get developer mindshare for implementing 3D in new games. It's not the same as say, implementing tessellation or PhysX as the footprint, or installed base, for people that can use those is significantly higher.
@TsabehT - not sure I see the point of making CM work by default with every game, as right now it is only a means for improving the default 3D Vision experience for a given game that either does not work with 3D Vision or has a low rating. (Not considering mods in this equation).
@DHR - the majority of people that tend to visit forums like this one are power users and are much more savvy about their systems, hardware, and tech in general. The vast majority fall into more casual category.
What I can try to do is work on a general story about the modding community and feature that on 3DVisionLive.
@Mike_ar69 - remember this is just the second iteration of the new mode. Your point is a good one and we are working on ways to improve upon this particular issue moving forward.

Now that is something that I am really interested in... Steve, without giving any details can you please elaborate a bit on why is becoming more challenging? Do the devs find it too hard to implement stereoscopy ? or they don't see the value ? or what is the actual cause? I am genuinely interested in this.

No, sorry - what I meant was it's a reflection of the current trends in the 3D market, which is not nearly as "hot" as it was when 3D Vision debuted. It's an installed base/value/time and cost consideration. Look at the overall 3D market and the trends were talking about here more or less reflect those.

Thank you for the clarification! Aye, I noticed a decline regarding news and such, but from my POV every technology survives as long as is being used (developed for). I knew from the start (like most of us did) that 3D Vision would not go massive due to different reasons and mainly since it requires more time and stuff to be "realistically" created rather than hacked (and most of us are aware that game devs are hacking stuff together so it looks good on 2D and cut off the development time).
Then was the hardware requirements and most people are not passionate enough to put extra money into this... Just look at the games "of today" and "the games of yesterday" and you can clearly see a decline in that part as well...
I for one I am PRO the Compatibility 3D version....rather than NOTHING!!!! I don't find it that bad. Defo not the true 3D Stereoscopy (but rater 3D re-projection) but instead of playing stuff in 2D I would rather use it with 100% depth. Also, it might save 3D Vision overall (something people don't immediately see) in terms of income/player base. Of course true 3D rendering BEATS nothing !!! (and is actually silly how easy it's to correct certain shaders to work properly in a true 3D space) but I guess some devs don't see the benefit of those extra hours... Again I think this because of the current industry TREND and not specially 3D Vision...look at Surround/Eyefinity and you will see the same stuff all over again...

Steve, could you please confirm you're saying what I think you're saying? Are you saying nVidia and/or developers don't see us as a big enough market to invest much time and money on?
If that's the case, I understand why nVidia might see it that way. However keep in mind that we are your most dedicated and highest-spending market, even if our numbers aren't as high. I also implore you (as many others have) to actually try some of the community mods, and perhaps consider a similar approach yourselves. If the community can do it in their spare time, surely it wouldn't be overly expensive to hire someone (perhaps even from the community) to develop similar patches.
No, you should not infer NVIDIA in the above statement.
(And it's really not as simple as you suggest, as many of the posts in this thread touch on.)
That's all I'm going to say for now - back on topic :-)
So you meant that statement to apply to developers?
Any thoughts on nVidia putting in some of the legwork to patch games?
On topic: my installation issues were resolved by disabling Intel Virtualization Technology in the BIOS (as per your PM) - so thanks again for that. :)

Without helixmod, we all go over Tridef solutions and Tridef forum in a blink of an eye.
Take note Nvidia!!

For anyone that's interested, there's a few different ways to do a Depth Hack, set it and lock the registry key(which can be problematic), set a loop that constantly writes the value(which hammers the registry key/value), or alternatively you can use one the other ones I came up with that Query the setting in a loop and write it only when it's changed by the drivers(which is every time a game is run). There's 2 versions, one that loops until changed and exits(which I've had problems with FarCry3's 3D Compatibility mode, drivers write the value more than the usual once) and the other that just keeps looping and watching the key.
I can reinstall the drivers and try to figure out a solution for the 'loops until changed'(my fav) if it's happening with all the '3D Compatibility' games. The other issue with the
3D Compati2D Vision games, is that when using a Depth Hack to achieve relatively the same amount of Depth as your usual, the 'Haloing' is pretty extreme and I think I read that there's more of a performance hit, not sure if that's still the case.(I couldn't agree more!) ... but ... but ... NVIDIA's finally tossing us a bone! ... wait ... what!? The bone wasn't even meant for us!? So who exactly is this new 'demographic' that we're catering to? I don't get it, is it laptop users? No, half the time they won't even be able to enable '3D Vision Discover'. Is it desktop users? I hardly think so, they're not going to have a 3D Monitor and 3D Vision Kit ... a few of them may be able to hook it up to a 3DTV or projector ... but that few wouldn't 'wake the beast' ... why does NVIDIA all of a sudden 'care' about 3D, after years of not listening to it's actual 3D customers, their wants and needs, but to focus on some whole other 'demographic'? They smell money! Somewhere ... I'd have to bet on either VR or SteamBOX. :)

Rig: Intel i7-8700K @4.7GHz, 16Gb Ram, SSD, GTX 1080Ti, Win10x64, Asus VG278
We appreciate this "value add" and some may use it, but can you tell us if you plan on working with developers to help them implement 3D vision? or is 3D vision itself finished? The last few 3D vision ready games were sequels to games that you helped the developer implement 3D vision as part of your Nvidia "the way it's meant to be played" program. (Metro last light, and Batman Archam City) Since then we have had NO 3D VISION READY GAMES.
Don't you??
I know you have to give politically correct answers.... but nobody in their right mind would choose otherwise. it's just no sense.
if you tell me where, i will register/sign in and spread the word about Helixmod.....because doing a quick google search about Helixmod...you can see several pages talking about this mod (also in different languages, not english only).
