I'm new here but I'm hoping some of you can help me out.
With Arkham City just around the corner I really want to give 3D vision a go. My system at the moment is a Phenom 2 965 (3.8ghz), 4 Gb DDR3, GTX 480, 1920x1080 monitor res. Do you think my system will cope with AC fully maxed out AND 3D vision enabled or would a move to Sandybridge 2500k and something like GTX 570 SLI be advised?

Umm... Those requirements are for non 3d vision set-ups.
You're at recommended with non-3d vision set-ups(above on everything except video card). Does this mean you cant run it in 3d? No.
If you can settle for maybe 720p medium/hi settings or 1080p medium/low settings you will probably be kosher.
I assume you have the 1536ram 480. If you don't I dont think 1080p is a good option for 3d and finding a good graphical setting for 720p is best choice.
Basically with 3d vision you want to take video cards and double it. If it recommends geforce 480. 3D vision would be recommending 480 sli. I dont think you need to upgrade however just dont expect to play at crazy settings.

Dude dont talk BS, i can play Batman AA with a GTX480 @ 1080P 8xAA, 16AF, All High/Max with 3D and PhysX!.... @ smooth 40~60 FPS.
Using my GTX480's in SLI i play with the above settings but @ 6000x1080 3DVision Surrond with 2x AA (due to Vram Limitation) @ 60FPS!.
Batman AC has a bigger enviroment so maybe ill be hitting the V-ram limit sooner, but @ 1080P with 3D i dont see any problem!

Not too sure about that Fu5ion. If you compare the recommended specs for both games, they are worlds apart. Batman: AA's 9800GTX compared to Batman: AC's GTX460 - that's three generations apart mate.
@Helidan
Going 3D pretty much halfs your FPS so eqzitara's cautious approach is likely the more sound for your current system.

No not really the GTX480 is as fast as the GTX570 so thats all eye candy on high with DX11 according to the nvidia site. Overclock the GTX480 slightly and thats 3Dvision in the pocket and maybe cutting down on AA abit.
Motion Blur prolly needs to be disable'd as with the first game ... so really i dont see any problems here.
Cant say much for now ofcourse but judging from Batman AA and the recommended specs, the GTX480 will do fine @ 1080P, Physx, Max and 3D ...
Ow and the 9800GTX was acutally a 8800GTS 512MB renamed, (the entire 9000 line was renamed:S) and later on it recieved a ''die shrink''. Remember the piss poor performance of the 9000 series when they first came out ... and only a few months later the GTX200 serie's came out. So its more like 2 generations .. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Im not sure why this guy think a recommended set-up for non-3d can play max set-ups in 3d. I do AGREE though that the 460 is equal to a 570.
@Fusion
Same engine does not equal same graphics. Mass effect/2/3. All used same engine. They do no have same graphics.
Arkham asylums recommended specs were LOWER then citys specs by a lot(in video card department). Game came long time ago man.
@OP, a single 480 will not be able to max out Arkham City and maintain good framerates imo. Even with 2x480 in SLI, framerates for me regularly drop to the 40s in areas with high PhysX effects and 4xMSAA in Arkham Asylum. I've been tempted on more than one occasion to throw in a GTX 280 just for PhysX for this game, Mafia 2, and now Alice. Now consider with Arkham City, they've had 2 years to refine their visuals and PhysX effects along with the increased demands that DX11 brings with tesselation, so I expect AC to be 20-30% more demanding than AA.
If you can find another 480 for cheap I'd go that route. Idk if I'd spend the slight premium on GTX 570 SLI at this point in the game however, although it should cut down temps and power consumption considerably while giving similar performance to 480 SLI.

Yes and those two generations of graphics cards are substantial, so andysonofbob's argument still stands and is untouched as it is.

Yeah, I'm anxiously awaiting this release, and not sure if I will need to upgrade. I tried the performance checker link that Nvidia provided for this game and it indicated I would NOT be able to run full settings. However I've never trusted those types of things in the past, as they are usually wrong. Especially considering they have a handy link sitting right there to the Nvidia store... how convenient to tell me I need to upgrade and then provide the means to do so!
So far I can play every game I've thrown at it on max, including The Witcher 2 (except for upbersampling). So I dunno about Arkham City, but I'm betting I will still get playable frame rates.

In terms of the graphics card, I would just try it first and then see if you need to upgrade.
Based on you mentioning your new here my question is, do you know you have to have a 3D ready monitor? You mention having a 1920x1080 monitor, if it's not 3D ready it won't work with the 3DVision kit, you need to run the kit with a compatible 120Hz 3D monitor.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, very informative.
No, my current monitor is not 3D so I'll have to pick one up (probably an Asus one).
To be honest from reading through this and other forums it would seem that 3D can on times really stress a system so I think I might go for an upgrade to 570 SLI anyway.
All the benchmarks I've looked through seem to show two 570's more or less at single 590 level of performance. Running alongside an i5 2500k I would imagine that system would be good for a fair few years.

If you can find another 480 for cheap I'd go that route. Idk if I'd spend the slight premium on GTX 570 SLI at this point in the game however, although it should cut down temps and power consumption considerably while giving similar performance to 480 SLI.

Yes and those two generations of graphics cards are substantial, so andysonofbob's argument still stands and is untouched as it is.

Nvidia 780 SLI motherboard
E8600 Core2 3.00ghz
8 GB ram
WD Black 2 TB
450 GTS
450 GTS
So far I can play every game I've thrown at it on max, including The Witcher 2 (except for upbersampling). So I dunno about Arkham City, but I'm betting I will still get playable frame rates.

In terms of the graphics card, I would just try it first and then see if you need to upgrade.
Based on you mentioning your new here my question is, do you know you have to have a 3D ready monitor? You mention having a 1920x1080 monitor, if it's not 3D ready it won't work with the 3DVision kit, you need to run the kit with a compatible 120Hz 3D monitor.
