laser sight in FSX / Flight Simulator X : chained to TrackIr
Hi, FSX is very enjoyable in 3DV, yet turning knobs or pushing buttons is quite difficult because mouse pointer doubles when it comes to objects on near planes of sight (of course, by flattening the scene, the problem goes away, but the scene ... is flattened :) ) I tried turning on the laser sight, but this one appears to be chained to TrackIr, so it cannot be exploited to do fast operations on complex aircraft cockpits (that compels me to fly airliners witnout 3DV) please, is there by chance any workaround to slave the laser sights to mouse pointer? thanks

I looked at FSX with regard to fixing the runway lights, and it's got some problems. For flipping switches in the cockpit, would it work for you to have a key or joystick button or mouse button that would temporarily flatten it? So for example, you might hold down the space bar while flipping switches with the mouse.

I have a keystroke programmed for that but, on airliners' takeoffs and landings, when many interactions have to be performed, it means to absolutely stay out of 3DV, while in flight it's not a big issue to take a couple of seconds to center the cursor to do a sometimes keypress that's why lasersight seemed to the only option...alas

@bo3b I've messed around with ahk making a script to hold down a key when LMB is pressed and to click and release the key when LMB is released. The only problem is when you're clicking repeatedly or fast for that matter the transition between +depth and -depth can be hard on the eyes, it'd be pretty sweet if Helix added the ability in the DX9Settings.ini to add a variable timed transition in ms between the two settings ... maybe even a 2 or 3 part setting, a time for the transition and another, or two, for how long it stays at either given point, say -depth was set at 500ms and you were repeatedly clicking at a rate of 100ms it'd stay at -depth until you stopped clicking for 500ms at which point it would transition back to +depth at whatever rate you had set ... if that's even possible. :)

OK, sounds like changing the separation/convergence on the fly isn't going to work. Does the lasersight work in FSX? I never tried it and don't presently have it installed. I understand it is tied to TrackIR at present, but if it works, maybe there is a way to disconnect it from TrackIR but still be able to use it.

Unfortunately that's how it works ... "fixed on the center of the screen" ... it's technically for shooters so anywhere else but the center is pointless ... it sounds like you might need a dynamic cursor, if there is one. Is the cursor always present? Or does it only appear when you're going to use it? Might be able to link to the texture that's being used for the cursor. Or like bo3b originally suggested to have a setting bound to a key, either as a hold or toggle. I have no experience with the game ... do you only left-click to flip switches? If so, between the DX9Settings.ini and an ahk script you could have at least 3 convergence settings, flat, med, full ... and add timed transitions and holds with ahk ...

I'm still a bit confused. If you enable lasersight, and then look at a switch on the airplane panel, does it work? Can you flip the specified switch properly in 3D? I assume you are using TrackIR so that you can look around the plane more naturally than using a mouse or keyboard to pan around.

Don't you have the same problem in 2D? Or is it that TrackIR just allows you to free look, and is disconnected from the mouse? Then you would use the mouse cursor independently to flip switches?

OK, I think I understand what you are seeing. This seems like a TrackIR problem to me. And maybe a configuration change to TrackIR can make it work. From what I read, TrackIR is fullly and directly supported in FSX. That means you don't have to use mouse emulation mode for FSX, unlike other games. Now it seems to me that TrackIR is presently running in mouse emulation mode. You can still look around just like you would with a mouse, and the lasersight (which is always tied to mouse) also follows TrackIR, which also suggests TrackIR is emulating mouse. Maybe take a look in TrackIR configuration, or FSX settings to see if you can change modes, or at least find mouse emulation mode to see it is enabled by accident.
