Tridef on nVidia guide (play AC3, Bioshock, probably more)
  1 / 5
This worked for my Asus VG278H, but probably applies to other screens as well. I don't expect it would work on laptops, though it might be possible to adapt this guide. I was able to run AC3 and Bioshock Infinite using these methods, though not totally without issues. Bioshock reverts to low detail textures after a few minutes, and AC3 only works in Power3d mode when you're in the cities, otherwise you can expect severe framerate drops. Note that apparently this only works for certain firmwares on this monitor. I'm going to assume you can work out how to install Tridef and set it up for games on your own. 1. Plug the monitor in via HDMI. You can NOT make it work over DVI for Tridef. 2. Set the resolution to 1920x1080, at 60hz (if it's not already) 3. Restart Tridef if it's running (including exiting the tray icon) 4. Start Tridef, set it to side by side 5. Run your game 6. In the monitor settings (under Image, I believe), change the 3d mode to side by side 7. Change the monitor back to DVI after you're done, because regular 3d vision doesn't work at 120hz over HDMI Notes: I've not found a way to make it work over DVI, as the 3d mode selection in step 6 is greyed out under DVI. If anyone works out a hack, please share it. There's a feature under the Tridef menu in the 3d section, called Custom Focus. Turn this on. With it off, Tridef will try and autofocus the 3d effect all the time, resulting in lots of weird jumpiness. It doesn't seem to matter if 3d is turned on in the nVidia control panel I don't believe it uses the second graphics card, if you have SLI Power3D is not totally fake 3D, it does use depth buffer information. It doesn't look as good as regular mode, but it should perform much better in most cases (you won't be able to play AC3's cities without it) [s]AC3 can crash a bit, but it's playable[/s] AC3's framerate dies in cities, and crashes too much to be playable under Power3d. Perhaps an update (of either AC3 or Tridef) may fix this in the future. Bioshock has an issue where textures go super-low res after a few minutes, people have had success with the tweaks in this thread - http://www.tridef.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3560&p=16449

You select standard display types, direct3d 120Hz. 3D Vision needs to be on, unless you have glasses and an emitter that do not require the Nvidia USB emitter driver. At least that's the way I used to do it with my projector and Nvidia 3D Vision kit. You take a pretty big performance hit with both running at the same time.

@pirateguybrush The problem is only certain asus vg278h's work. There was a firmware upgrade. You have an option called 3D Mode. Most don't, I also do not have the mode on my vg278h. @d-man11 That method only works for dx9.

@eqzitara Oh, that sucks, I didn't realise. Hopefully this guide still helps a few people. Thanks D-Man. I couldn't get that to work on my monitor at all - always got an error initialising 3d, no matter what settings I tried. DVI, HDMI, 120hz, 60hz...nothing would work. Perhaps that only works for projectors?

Pretty sure there's not, sorry. You're looking under the image menu when connected by HDMI, yes?

I think I am also one of the lucky ones with a VG278h that can't select SBS. I contacted ASUS support & they were no help at all. They didn't know what the hell I was talking about & they said I could send in the monitor if I wanted to have it looked at. I have tried HDMI & DVI at all possible formats & Tridef options. This frustrates me because I want to use Tridef 3d more now that it seems they might be the way to go with DX10 & DX 11 games. 3D Vision is obviously dying & I will never go back to 2D. I can run all DX9 games with my GTX 670 & VG278H with Tridef. I will always use 3d vision first if available but want to use Tridef as well for games that don't work with Nvidia. I have also sent Tridef 3 customer support emails & haven't heard back. I am getting very upset about this because I just can't enjoy Bioshock Infinite in 2D. If anyone figures out how to get this to work let us know.

chtiblue "So it works for DX9, what settings do tuo use in tridef for DX9 games? Direct 3D? DVI?" I just install the tridef driver & have Nvdia 3d enabled at the lowest depth. I use a DVI & set it to Standard Display types & then the Direct 3d (120) hz. I can then control all of the tridef features. Whats sucks is most the DX9 games either already work in Nvidia 3D or Helix Mods has a fix. If i can get Tridef to work on my setup in DX10 & DX11 I consider myself future proof on 3d for gaming for at least a few more years. Thats all im looking for! My trick when games didn't work in 3d was to go lowest depth with very high convergence. Its not as good but gets the job done. I have noticed with the latest releases like Sniper GW2 & Bioshock Infinite that doesn't even work.

I did nothing special, just went to the 3d vision live page(http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/) and opened one of the photos to keep the IR emitter light bright green then minimized the page and ran tridef v5.3.I only tested with Half Life 2.The Project64 emu(emulator of N64)worked too,but the Custom Focus option keeps greyed out causing the 3d effect to be confusing. OS: Win 7 CPU: I7 2700k 3.5GZ Mobo: Asus P8 z77 m-pro Ram: 8GB GPU: GTX 560ti Monitor: Asus VG278H

Interesting, I'll try that once I've replaced my faulty motherboard.
