Ive been messing around with the fix trying to rename riftgame.exe to other game exe's like ffxiv.exe, ect hopeing maybe this would fool 3dvision into loading a profile for one of those games....not working...

I did get it to load as fallout3.exe and it recognized it as Fallout 3. This didn't actually affect any issues in game though. Perhaps I should try ofdr.exe since it does so much wonder for other games /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Anyway, Rift servers down for another update, I have been playing most of the day, but in 2d. EDIT2: Haha I GOT IT WORKING! It IS a profile issue. I used Resource Hacker on the riftpatchbeta.exe. Under RCData there is an XML file, where there are 2 mentions of "rift.exe". I changed these to "riftgame.exe" instead and clicked compile script at the top (dunno if this is necessary) and then I saved the file. Then I made a copy of the rift.exe and named it riftgame.exe. Now when I run the patcher it loads riftgame.exe instead and the nvidia driver no longer recognizes the game so it doesn't go into compatibility mode for that other game.
Perfect fix for now atleast. Worked like a charm :). I had to do it twice since there was a patch thrown out that nullified my fix. Guess it has to be done after any patching though.
Hopefully we will get some advanced functionality so we can make our own profiles more easily. My only problem so far is the light effects. Somehow the effects are skewering the world. And of course 3D mouse would help.

I tested the 3d in the oben beta and it works quite well,
but all bars (health bar usw) are rendered in 2D so this is a problem and the interface is not at screen depth (linke in WoW) but somewhere in the middle and the mouse is rendered in 2d. If you switch the interface off its quite nice and runs smooth with everything on max on 720p resolution with a GTX580/i7 similar to Wow in performance.
What is strange is that you have to enable "Fullscreen Effects" (Bloom etc) for the 3D to work.
Has anyone an idea how to fix the interface to be at screen depth, then it would be actually fine to play in 3d.
Are you sure about this? Last I heard if you don't do the EXE rename, the game just renders a 2D image "behind" your monitor; not actually 3D. Course I haven't tried it without the renamed EXE for a for betas now can anyone confirm it works properly with the reshack?

I was wondering that too. Either the new client has been updated somehow and now works, but they should change their exe name, or I don't know how it could work without any tweaking.

So the legacy renderer looks perfect in 3D. Unfortunately, the legacy renderer looks like crap. If you use the new version everything gets this really bad single color ghosting. I assume it's some pass-over shader lighting effect that just doesn't get handled by the 3d conversion well at all.On a positive note the overhead questmarkers and names are all rendered at object depth. Hopefully that lighting problem can be fixed with a little math in the game profile.

Also the textures on the ground, when the Rift's appear, look way off. Feels like it's at a different depth, very distracting.Game is really fun though, lots of variety in the powers selection. Makes for many different combination sets.Turn Particle Quantity all the way up for some flashy spell effects.

I really gave it a serious try in 3D, but certain parts are just way too distracting. There are many areas that look fantastic, but unfortunately there are just as many that are very messed up. As Paperninja points out, there is serious single color ghosting. Also, objects with, or close to, glow effects develop this really odd convergence-type issue when you get close to them. And perhaps the worse issue, as pointed out by FuchiBOT, is that the game's namesake, the Rifts, display very strangely. It's almost like they are pools of water because of the depth issue. And when the action picks up around the rifts this simply isn't workable. Hopefully Nvidia can work some magic in a game profile, because I feel that now it's really unplayable in 3D.

You can run the game using the low quality render setting, and it works pretty decently but ... obviously is missing a ton of eye candy unfortunately. Pretty heartbreaking if Trion and/or nVidia won't do anything about this.

Good: I have figured out a way to turn off those horrid ghosting lighting effects in the High Detail mode!
Edit your "rift.cfg" file in a text editor. Look for the entry "MaxLOD". Change the value to "MaxLOD = 0".
Bad: Turning this off also turns off the Target Indicator. This is that circle around the target's feet and arrow over their head. Without said indicator is is very difficult know what your target is.
Note: I don't believe this is a true fix. I noticed the torches in Character Select screen disappears in High Detail mode with "MaxLOD = 0". In "LegacyRenderer" the torch flames are still visible but do NOT cast that horrid ghosting. There must be some sort of light effect that is toggled off in the "LegacyRenderer". what we really need is access to this lighting toggle in High Detail mode.

Thanks for posting this!!
I've been consigned to playing in the low qual mode which sad, but the world is designed very nicely and flows great in 3D. I really really miss the shadows though.
Funny that the torches disappear; in low qual mode the lights in the game are gone, but still have the glowing dust around them... This can be seen in Gloamwood most obviously.
Are other flames in the game missing when using the MaxLOD=0?
So with shadows off then it sounds like it'll work as good as low quality rendering - is that about right (save for the target issue)? If so I can't wait to try it out :)

So I had a chance to mess with this the last few days... Unfortunately the MAXLOD=0 disables every light sources in the game, as well as every single spell effect including enchants and so forth :(
As you say, we need the option to use the lighting from the legacy renderer if desired. If we could do that, combined with disabled shadows would let the game run in a playable state in high quality mode in 3D.
Didn't Fallout use this engine and work ok? Could we try naming the EXE to a gamebryo based game that is known to work with 3D Vision?
I can deal with the screen depth rendering of speech bubbles and whatnot; if I could just get the damn game to work in high quality mode, either with or without shadows, but with that lighting issues resolved then I'd be happy for now. There must be some work nVidia could do with a profile for this game isn't there?
Really frustrating, such a great game and it sucks that not being able to play in 3D properly is stealing some of the magic!

Thanks a bunch Xerion404

So the legacy renderer looks perfect in 3D. Unfortunately, the legacy renderer looks like crap. If you use the new version everything gets this really bad single color ghosting. I assume it's some pass-over shader lighting effect that just doesn't get handled by the 3d conversion well at all.On a positive note the overhead questmarkers and names are all rendered at object depth.
