Quick test on with the pimax4k

I’ve experienced a couple of games on Pimax 4K powered by VorpX and SteamVR. I’ve bought VorpX a couple of weeks ago but I’m already experienced in VR and 3D (anaglyph 3D, cross-eyed, parallel-eyed, Tridef 3D, iZ3D, Nvidia 3D TV Play, Nvidia 3D Vision, Vireio Perception, several VR headsets). Games played on Pimax 4K + VorpX + modifications like FOV, DSR, no GUI, latency optimizations: – Alien Isolation – Battlefield 3 – Bioshock Infinite – GTA 5 – Skyrim Original – Skyrim Special Edition (cloned Fallout 4 profile) Depending on the game-/vorpX compatibility geometry 3D or z-adaptive. My experiences - disadvantages: – lil bit of ghosting while moving the head (sometimes not visible, depends on the scene) – 60hz instead of 90hz => not recommended for fast motion games – IPD adjustment is softwarewise instead of hardwarewise => I prefer the hardwarewise adjustment of my Gear VR. The eyes are less strained on Gear VR. – Software crashes sometimes when trying to adjust the IPD (Windows reboot needed) => Software for initial adjustments needs to be improved/fixed My experiences - advantages: – Almost no screen door effect. In most cases absolutely no screen door effect. That’s absolutely WOOOW!!! There is a SDE comparision on YouTube between Gear VR 2.5K and Pimax 4K. – The image while gaming looks absolutely fantastic (2.5K 1440p and 4K 2160p in-game resolution powered by Nvidia DSR supersampling – HDMI 1.4b 60hz). Provided you found the right IPD settings for your eyes and the device is not faulty. Wrong IPD settings = looks like cross-eyed / imge looks blurry / eyes hurt. The right IPD settings for your yes are super important. There were also some faulty devices (blurry in the middle of the screen). My device is fine. – Even 2K 1080p gaming looks great but I prefer at least 2.5K for to less aliasing. Alien Isolation does not need high FPS so I played in 4K in-game resolution for superb graphics. – The image looks not as good as on my FullHD 27 inch monitor but almost! - On Pimax 4K I’m able to read text easily (Virtual Desktop). - Movies 2D/3D look much better than on Gear VR. No annoying SDE. - The headset is comfortable, high immersion FOV 110, soft padding, great earphones. For gaming it is extreme important to use a high in-game field of view (at least 110) otherwise the image looks zoomed-in and the potential of motion sickness is much higher. That's generally in VR the case. Apps I'm using on Pimax 4K: Steam VR, Virtual Desktop, Simple VR Video Player, Tridef 3D, VorpX. I haven't tried the Rift or Vive and for sure they are more advanced (positional tracking, room scale, motion controller, 90hz) but I'm also sure that they have absolutely no chance in SDE vs. Pimax 4K. As soon as I activate a high resolution 360 degree image in Virtual Desktop I'm absolutely speechless how good it looks. No joke! Absolutely mind-blowing! The input is 2K as on any other PC VR headset but it will be scaled up to the native resolution of the Pimax 4K (800 ppi = no screen door effect vs. Rift/Vive 450 ppi = screen door effect). To be honest, I've never expected to experience VR 4K in 2016 (no SDE). Removal of the screen door effect (SDE) is definitely appreciated by everyone who has experienced it in VR.
