Recording movies in 3D
Hi All!
I want to ask you about recording real-life movies in 3D. What system is the best? I know 2 main systems: 1 camera with stereoscopic addon (mirrors/prisms, image is divided into 2 sections for both eyes) and 2 separated cameras.

First solution give quite low resolutions for standard cameras (HD ones are extremely expensive) and it could be hard to record stereoscopic 16:9 wide video.

Second, requires 2 cameras, that unfortunatelly double the price of system but it should be easy to make 2x800x600 movie with two digital cameras.

Anyone know any not-extremely expensive setup? something as small as possible, maybe homebrew? I'm looking for something that can record stereoscopic video with min. 640x480 x2 resolution. What about interlacing systems, are they in use?
cheers,
TR

If you are budget minded and want to try stereo video on the cheap try using two CVS one time use video cameras. They are only $30 each so for $60 you can get two of them. They are made to be taken back to the drugstore and they will download the video and and give it to you on a disc. They will keep the camera but there are hacks on the net on how to download the video yourself. That way you keep the camera. The camera only holds about 20 min of video but its reuseable. You get 2 video cameras for $60, cant beat that, especially for experimenting.

You will have to make a rig to hold the cameras and get your stereo base. I have not tried this, but I intend to as soon as I get some time. Good luck if you try it.

Here is a link with info on the camera.

Here is a link on hacking it to get the video. This one talks about using an old palm cradle but there are other methods. Try a net search and see what you come up with.

Anybody out there have any experience with these cameras?

Edit: after posting I see you are in Poland, I dont think they have CVS drugstore there, sorry

thx for reply;
I'm not on budget like that :):) and this type cameras are totally unreachable in my country. I'm thinking about GOOD quality video at the first place, and that cheap camers cant do it properly. Maybe lets start with something up to $500...
What about Loreo 3D addon ("lens-in-a-cap" that replace standard lens)??? Is there any camera with deteachable lens that can be used with loreo AND record video? (SLR with video?)
Or maybe two video-cameras designed for memory cards? im looking for confirmed, working solution.
cheers,

Hi,
have tested 2 MiniDV cameras, it is possible creating of 3D movie with 2 DV cameras, better are cameras with "progresive scan" - Panasonic. The main problem is synchronisation of cameras, for playing and ev. movie creating is usefull software from www.3dtv.at and for 3D avi I think is plugin for Adobe Premiere.
This process is no so simple. Other possibility is use of good laptop 2USB Webcams or better videocameras with 2 inputs firewire and live grabbling of movie. Peter Wimmer from ww.3dtv.at this has performed.
With regards
