I'm also getting a doubled stereo image (overlapped L&R eye) on screen.

After a couple weeks of various testing, I've made the decision to... The possibility of 1080p60 3D was a bonus, since the bandwidth would be there anyway with HDMI 2.0. A part of my decision was based on the quality of 3D gaming this projector is able to provide at less than 1920x1080x120. Even 0720p60 with MSAAx8 (GRID 2 for instance) looked fantastic. Games at 1080p60 in TaB 3D also looked good as well, even without AA or DSR. 3D Blu ray playback looks phenomenal. It's very much like watch live stage actors at that size and distance with no visible pixelation. I think the combination of the smaller screen size (down to about 140" diagonal) and the increased pixel count of the UHD51A (over my previous w1070) has really impressed me. Even in a large basement with several southern facing windows, basic blackout coverings minimize the ambient light enough to make it usable in 3D midday. Given all of that, even though I was unsuccessful forcing 1920x1080x120 due to the lack of a selectable frame-sequential 3D mode, I'm still very happy with what this projector can do for me in 3D. My next step is to remove the 4K resolutions again to re-enable DSR for 3Dmigoto. Thanks for all of the support and input. Even after missing the mark on 1080p60 full frame 3D, the UHD51A is still a winning solution for me. -Ray BTW - Just for some perspective on what I'm comparing... Just got through all 14 pages of this discussion - thanks for the info and investigation everybody. Unfortunately, I now feel torn; I want to experience 3d gaming at 1920x1080x120 but my 3D blu ray collection (which I play using Corel WinDVD Pro) seems to go to waste unless I go with the UHD51A. I get 3D is more or less tossed aside by the mainstream but sometimes it feels the world is against us somehow with all the fiddling and reworking needed to go beyond 2 dimensions. I worry that waiting for the holy grail of having both features or even higher resolution 3d support becomes a less likely reality as time goes on. Any recommendations for upgrading from my current PJ (Benq HT2150ST) - I am leaning towards the UD50 for the gaming and 2d movie upgrades, it is also cheaper relative to the UHD51A. Or is there something close on the horizon I should be waiting for? Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts/opinions.

It's true that 3d movies from blu-ray players can't be shown on uhd 40/50. But when playing them from pc it,s still possible. I play 3d movies via mkv files from pc. I think 3d blurays should work as well (I don't have any 3d blurays to test)

I don't want to sacrifice 3D Bluray playback too. On the PowerDVD site 3D Vision is listed for 3D Bluray Playback, but no more details: https://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd-ultra/spec_en_US.html?affid=2581_1326_540 But could there be visual problems because of the higher refresh rate output? Power DVD supports bluray playback - it's mainly sold due to this reason. I just meant that I don't find a 3D bluray currently for testing. But in the past 3D blurays were working with my 3D Vision monitor and Power DVD. Power DVD has the best support for 3D playback / bluray afaik. There are no visual problems / I don't see any for 3D movies on this projector. In my opinion 3D movies on this projector are more fun than in cinema because you don't have to deal with all the crosstalk you find in passive 3D in cinema! Wow ok 3600€ is a lot of money... I would rather invest this money in a good high contrast screen than in those daylight projectors you mentioned. I think results will be even better then. There is also a screen called "couch screen" ... it's far better than all the other screens available on the market but rather difficult to get one. You can't just order this in online stores.

Thx,I think a screen with 270"/18m² would be even more expensive and I don't know where I could buy that^^. Also I fear 2400 lumen won't be enough for 3D even after painting the wall with projection color. The UHD40 would be atleast 7meters away from the wall, that would also be a lot light loss I think.

So tempted to get a TK800 and try and get frame sequential working, even though recent experiments on similar projectors have pretty much failed to get full HD FS working. The UHD40, TK800 and W1700 are all £999 at the moment.. They are even cheaper at some of the other european amazon sites. So I'm torn between just going UHD40, or getting one of the others and trying to hack it about. Not as confident as I was in the past though. The UHD51 is a nice option as it will be an upgrade on what I have in every way apart from input lag, but it's pricey. @Dazzle233, does the UHD51 support frame interpolation when viewing 3d bluray? I'm not sure what Optoma call that technology.

@rustyk21 I'll have to check on the FI in 3D modes. My gut says no, but I haven't tried or confirmed it. Beyond the sharpness, it didn't seem different from my Benq w1070 which did not have FI. EDIT: I checked. When 3D is enabled the 'Pure Motion' feature is disabled and unavailable.

Just ordered a BenQ TK800 from amazon UK for £879. I was told it will be that price until the end of Sunday 25th. Will see how I get on but not getting my hopes up. Was really tempted by the UHD40 but I have a load of 3d blu rays etc. and I just don't want to lose the native framepacked 3d support. This should be an upgrade in every way over what I have currently anyway.

Long story short, can't get 1920x1080x120Hz 3d working with this projector. It could definitely do it, if only the firmware supported it, same as the other 4k projectors. 1920x1080x120Hz input from PC works, but you get bad crosstalk on the 3d test. That's in CRT mode using 3d vision glasses and the emitter with native 3d mode turned off on the projector. With native 3d turned on, you can use frame sequential perfectly but only up to 720p@120Hz as that's the max supported resolution. I'm not surprised to be honest but it's frustrating as the hardware is clearly capable. If only other manufactures added more frame sequential 3d support we'd be fine.

What exactly happens when you feed the projector with a 1920x1080 @120hz signal and try to enable frame sequential 3D mode in projector OSD? Is frame sequential mode simply locked in OSD or does it not work properly? Indeed that's frustrating as hell. For me this sounds like that BenQ simply copied the firmware from older 720p/1080p projectors and inherited the same 720p limitation from those models. Either way it's very disappointing as 4k projectors generally cost a lot of money and therefore you would expect to get the best what is possible for the money. But BenQ really doesn't care for 3D: you could clearly see this when they shipped the BenQ W1700 / HT2550 with a firmware bug which resulted in an eye swap for 3D mode every few seconds. That means they didn't even test 3D mode before shipping. My suggestion for you is still the UHD 40/50. Brightness of its lamp is lower but you're still able to improve brightness by using a high gain screen and for 3D bluray playback just use PowerDVD and an internal bluray drive for PC.

I'm not surprised to be honest but it's frustrating as the hardware is clearly capable.
If only other manufactures added more frame sequential 3d support we'd be fine.

Sorry to hear that.
