Interpolation is fake, it guesstimates a frame from other frames using algorithms. For 3D on 60Hz displays, frames are repeated, not interpolated.

We can always use Tridef 3D and get 1080p/60hz. For TV users must use both 3DTV and Tridef 3D anyway, because some games works better with 3D vision/TV and other with Tridef 3D. Skyrim works much better with Tridef 3D and you get better 3D effects Skyrim, but Oblivion gives better 3D effects with Nvidia 3D.

Note that a complete 3840 x 2160 3D frame size must be rendered, requiring considerable GPU/CPU resources. No similar EDID mod exists for active 4K 3D TVs... The passive 4K EDID mod works great with both 3D Vision and Ignition games, as long as a NVIDIA GPU is used.

So passive 1080p gives you 1920x540 and uses 2 times less GPU power than 1080p active? Do you see big difference in graphics quality passive vs active @ 1080p because passive gives only half horizontal resolution?

Full frames are "always" rendered, there is no difference in performance. Half of each frame is discarded prior to being sent out to the display.

Full frames are ALWAYS rendered, then only half the data is provided to the display in 3D formats like line-interlaced and SBS formats (ideally, the video frame is prefiltered before resampling, but this is seldom done). With respect to passive 1080p, I found the resolution loss to be excessive (IMO), overriding the better ghosting performance. However, passive 2160p provides 4 times the resolution - and the highest resolution single-screen 3D display currently available supporting 3D Vision (and Ignition) gaming.

If my maths is correct you'd be getting about the same pixels per second, slightly more at 1920x540x2 @ 60Hz than at 1280x720 @ 120Hz... However:

- Text should be clearer and you can view from wider angles on the active display.

- You cannot use DSR (downsampling) with a passive display. I imagine 720p can look great when downsampled from 1440p!

- I can't speak for everyone but Open GL games do not work in 3D with my passive display.

So DSR works well with 3D? That's very good news. That means 3DTV guys don't need 60hz/1080p support because you can get almost same quality with 720p + DSR? Edit: Does 720p looks good to if downsampled (1.5x) 1080p?

So I read more about passive 3D. Am I right if I say passive 3D 1080p/60hz need same gpu power as 2D 1080p/60hz and active 3D 1080p/60hz need 1080p/120hz 2D gpu power? So passive 1080p needs 2x less gpu power than active 1080p, but passive only gives you 1920x540?
