I don't know if you've heard about this:

it's a $500 HMD with virtual retina display and 720p per eye and 3d support. It looks like a good candidate for 3d tv play or Tridef support with HDMI input. Since HMZs cost +$1000, it could be a very interesting and much more affordable option.

This actually looks darn good. Sort of OLED meets DLP (mirrors) in a HMD display. The only draw back I see is that it has headphones.
I think the mirrors may be able to overcome the screen smearing that the others are having difficulty with.
Now that I backed it comes the wait for December 2014 (or later with delays) for getting my hands on one.
Looks like the first real competition to the Oculus.
I really hope a standard comes together for VR so that everyone can benefit from the competition, instead of a bunch of walled gardens: different SDKs, different app stores, different game compatibilities, etc, etc.
I did find it disingenuous that they kept comparing their unreleased retail product to a year-old Oculus development kit. Oculus's second prototype ("Crystal Cove") had twice the resolution, and it will probably be even higher as they've now sourced custom display panels.

Its not VR.
Its a 3D HMD. 45 degree fov/ standard 3d format [Framepacked / side by side]
VR is extremely high FOV [Rift is 110]
Its not even competition since they are two entirely different formats. The only comparisons made have to do with resolution/screen door.
This product does not need special implementation [not saying it will have 3D Vision support]. Its basically a normal 3D display same as a monitor/projector/hmz-t1. It does not require any developer work.

Maybe seeing is believing, but I'm quite skeptical about some of the claims about this device. They tell us that it looks more natural because it projects directly onto your eye. That sounds nice, but what exactly is more natural? Why is this any better than just viewing light off of a screen? They claim no eye strain, but most of us probably don't get eye strain in the first place.
It sounds to me like any other HMD, but perhaps brighter, and with a great pixel fill factor. Probably a nice option if you want an HMD, but nothing special otherwise.
But maybe I'm missing or not understanding something.

All hmds give less eye strain. Since your not really converging your eyes onto one image. Each eye is focused on one image straight ahead. [Not to mention that since "average" people are asked which is more comfortable. They don't understand 3D and are comparing it to displays that ghost / movie theatre experience].
That said I do have my doubts as well. Im curious how much jostle it can take, stay in place. Its design seems too simple that I am optimistic about it unless it clamps into a very strong vice on your skull.

The Glyph had me excited at first. But I became less interested after early reviews; perceived screen size isn't that great it seems, and I prefer it without headphones.
My next purchase will be a W1080ST projector. Playing ~6 feet away from a 100", plus having my preferred headphone/speaker setup, is superior in every way IMO.
