I can recommend the BenQ W1070.
Though you won't find 120hz. You'll get 720p/60hz framepacked, which means 60fps per eye (not technically 120hz, but works basically the same way), or 1080p/24hz (24fps per eye, looks awful, don't bother).
So you're stuck on 720p/60hz no matter which one you buy. I can say that 720p looks fantastic though, despite the lower resolution. This is coming from someone who plays on both a 27 inch 1080p/120hz screen, and a 720p/60hz projector.

I have a 720p Acer H5360BD and a 1080p Benq W1070, and for 720p 3D games they're pretty close. The smaller pixel structure of the W1070 offers a small advantage. Also I think the W1070 is a little brighter in SmartEco vs The H5360BD in Eco mode, though that's hard to judge accurately without taking actual lumen measurements and without bulbs that are the same age.

I haven't, but 3d makes a difference to the resolution, as each eye receives a different image. It's still not as good as 1080p, but it's very usable.
Unfortunately there's really no other option, 3d over HDMI is limited to 1080p/24 or 720p/60.
That being said, CommanderTaco thinks he's found a way to increase the resolution a bit, I think he got it to 1600x900/60, though that's just off the top of my head.
Ther'es also been speculation that high-end business projectors might have DVI inputs that could be used for 1080p/60 input, but I've never seen anyone here test that out. They're also very expensive.
Someone else is testing an Optoma projector at the moment to see if that can get it to do 1080/60, you could track down that thread and see if he made any progress (should be within the most recent few pages of the forum).

Hey guys, how are you getting past the "1280x720 @120Hz not supported" problems? I just set up my w1070 yesterday and am very happy with it overall. I tried Dark Souls 2 in 3d and was pretty well sold. I also tried Tomb Raider and was very impressed. However most games give me this error. The Witcher 2 gives me a different problem. It sends one normal signal to one eye, and the other is a frozen pixelated mess.
I'm running through a Denon AVR1912 and have tried a couple of refresh rate lock programs that worked temporarily but inconsistently, and I've also tried to force an EDID, but Windows 8.1 has a fit about it being unsigned.
I think I should have let my 2 week trial run instead of getting all excited and buying the 3DTV play functionality right away. In all honesty, I wasn't too enthused about 3d, having only been around it in the theater where it gave me headaches. On PC, though, it is pretty amazing when it works. If it works. :)
Any ideas are very much appreciated.

You'll almost certainly need an edid override. You can install one using this guide, should apply to 8.1 as well as 8.

The one posted by Airion at the botton of this thread might be suitable, just be sure to select an audio output mode that matches what your receiver supports. So maybe take note of that before applying it.

However before you go too far, we've had a /lot/ of problems with Win8.1 + 3d. You'll be much better off installing 8.

Works like a charm! Thanks a bunch for the advice and links! Every game I tried that gave me the error is working perfectly. Now, If I can just figure out The Witcher 2.
