Benq W1080ST Plus 3D Vision 720p DSR
Hi guys, First of all Happy Easter! I don't know if something similar has been posted about 720p dsr, not 1080p dsr, for the Benq W1080ST Plus projector. The projector does not officially support 3D Vision but it is 3DTV Play (Frame Packed 3d) certified. There is a way to enable 3D Vision using an edid override which will enable the Frame Sequential 3D that works with the Nvidia 3D Vision 2 glasses. It seems that the projector supports it but hasn't been certified from Nvidia. I couldn't get 720p dsr downscaling to work with 3DTV Play as it downscales only the native 1080p resolution, however it is possible with 3D Vision. I've uploaded the edid .inf file found here [url]http://www.filedropper.com/optoma[/url] . If I remember correctly it is for the Optoma HD67N projector (I can double check this and find the forum where I got this .inf if anyone is curious). Step 1: Load the inf file from device manager. For those that are unfamiliar a quick google should tell you how to do this. Step 2: Enable Stereocopic 3d if you haven't. You should now see the 3D vision logo instead of the 3DTV Play one and the selected 3d display type should be `Optoma 3D Vision projector`. Step 2: Set your resolution to 720p 120hz. Step 3: Go to nvidia control panel --> Change resolution --> Select the 1280 x 720p (native) res and create a 1920 x 1080 custom resolution at 120hz. Don't change any of the timings. Step 4: After creating the custom resolution enable DSR from the nvidia control panel. Note - these resolutions will not show in the 3D vision test app. Step 5: Set the desktop resolution to 720p or above at 120hz. This will allow you to select Frame Sequential 3D from the projector menu. Step 6: Launch a game. Select resolution before or after starting the game. At this point the emitter should kick in but you will still see a 2d image on the screen unless you've already done step 7. If 3d doesn't kick in and the game doesn't allow you to set the refresh rate, set the desired resolution as your desktop resolution at 120hz. Step 7: Once the emitter is on disable 3d vision (ctl + T or alt and Enter to minimize the game) and press the 3D button on the remote , then press `3D Mode` and select `Frame Sequential`. Ctl + T or maximize your game and the 3d should kick in. If it doesn't make sure you've set the in-game refresh rate to 120hz for the chosen resolution and repeat this step. Don't forget the glasses :) . If using 3D Migoto Ctrl + F11 to swap eyes until you get the correct mode. This has worked for The Witcher 2 Enhanced edition and Deus Ex Mankind divided ,it should work for any other supported game, and the results are noticeable with with 4k dsr and 0% smoothness, I had my housemate double-check that I'm not imagining the improvement :D. My single OC 980 TI feels weak now as it can barely hold 720p 60fps in deus ex :(. To remove the edid override uninstall the driver from device manager and restart, 3DTV Play should be back. I don't know if this will work for other models from the benq w1070/w1080 series.

This is exactly what I was recently looking for. I have BenQ HT2050 projector and I was too cautious modifying the projector driver to enable DSR. This seems straight forward and the instructions are clear. Thanks for sharing. So far I had only tried TaB mode which is still a great improvement over 720p.

Silly me :D I need to give this a try and see which one is better :) , thanks. Is it hard to set up and is there a refresh rate cap for the TaB mode?

Hi Dim22, thank you for this guide! I always thought it would be impossible to get 720p DSR working on a Full HD beamer. I have the BenQ W710ST beamer. This one of the last 3d vision certified 720p beamers. Do you also have the problem with dust particles inside your lens of your beamer? This is a known problem with my beamer that the light path is not properly encapsulated and dust can get inside. You can clearly see this with my beamer when just projecting a black image on the wall.

Hi Pauldusler, I don't think I have the dust problem , at least not yet :D .This is something I will check when I get home. Only had this projector for a week.

Hi Dim22. The Top and Bottom mode is basically 1080p 3D with over & under. It works with latest 3Dmigoto that renders the game in 1080p 60Hz Top and Bottom 3D. Eventually I found that this method also enabled experiencing 3D in other unintended ways too; for example I was able to enable TaB 3D mode on projector for games that have no exclusive full screen to activate 3D, so there's no other way of experiencing them in 3D. One such game is Prepar3d flight simulator. This thread is dedicated to TaB mode: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/912552/3d-vision/modifying-3d-vision-to-support-sbs/ To enable Top and Bottom 1080P 60Hz 3D mode for projectors follow these steps: 1 - In nVidia Control Panel, open "Set up Stereoscopic 3D" and from pull down menu change "3DTV Play" to "HDMI Checkerboard" and save changes 2 - Download and install the fix for the game from Helixmod site by following the fix instructions 3 - Download the latest 3Dmigoto from https://github.com/bo3b/3Dmigoto/releases, and extract the contents of either the x64 or x32 folder (depending on game version) to the game folder and overwrite existing files EXCEPT D3DX.INI 4 - Open the "d3dx.ini" file that came with the game fix and find if it has [Present] section. If it has [Present] section then find if it has the line ";run = CustomShader3DVision2SBS". If it has this line then just remove the semicolon to enable Top and Bottom 3D mode. If this section doesn't have the line then add it manually under the line ";ResourceDepthBuffer = null", save and exit 5 - If the "d3dx.ini" file that came with the game fix doesn't have [Present] section, then open the "d3dx.ini" file that came with 3Dmigoto in either x64 or x32 folder (depending on game version), copy all the text from start of [Present] section down to the end of file, open the "d3dx.ini" file from game fix and paste all of the copied text to the end of this file. Uncomment the line "run = CustomShader3DVision2SBS", save and exit 6 - If the F11 key doesn't cycle Side by Side modes, try adding the following lines to the [Present] section of "d3dx.ini" just above the line "blend = disable" ; This is one of /those/ games that unbind our custom parameters constantly. ; Bind them again: vs-t120 = IniParams vs-t125 = StereoParams ps-t120 = IniParams ps-t125 = StereoParams 7 - In "d3dx.ini" file under [Hunting], change "hunting=1" to "hunting=0" 8 - If you want 3Dmigoto to start the game by default in Top and Bottom 3D mode, then in "d3dx.ini" file under [Constants] change "x7 = 0" to "x7 = 5" 9 - When you start the game, press F11 key to cycle through various 3D modes and choose the same mode from projector 3D menu.

This depends very much of the game and the textures used. I also noticed games like: Dying light, Dead Space 3, Black ops 2, 3 that looked much better in tab compared to 720p DSR 4x. But games like Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1 are looking sharper in 720p and 4x DSR. The only DSR that makes sense is 4x. With other values the results are really bad.

That is good to know. It would be best to try both when starting a new game and stick to the one that looks better. Yeah, 4x does look much better than the other, provided you have the gpu horsepower.
