Optoma HD20 1080p Projector $999US - Can it do 3d?
Hi everyone (my first post),
Does anyone have any experience with the HD20 or similar projector? .... do you think it will be able to display 3d stereoscopic and sync with shutterglasses?
I just bought a Optoma HD20 1080p projector (great value at $1270 CDN after tax and shipping from www.vistek.com). I know it's a gamble if it will be able to work as a single projector 3d display but I got it anyway for 2D movies and games. If it doesn't work in 3d now at least I could buy another in the future, perhaps if prices come down even more and make a 2 projector passive polarized setup. For now, 3D at 1080p would be an awesome experience. Anyone think it'll run nicely at 85hz for 3d stereo? I've read on here about firmware upgrades to Optoma's HD65 to 'turn it into' a HD66 sort of. Perhaps I can get mine to run at 120Hz??? It has 2 hdmi v1.3 inputs in the back. and I have 2 Nvidia 9800Gtx in SLi. Any comments or suggestions are much appreciated. Eric

Hey congrads on your new PJ i have read a lot of good reviews on the HD20 as for the 3D have not heard anyone being able to get it working. I own an HD65 and could not get it going in 3D no matter what i tried, even talked to the people at optoma about firmware upgrade they said we have not confirmed any upgrade, Anyway bought the HD66 and I love it. I think you will be happy the HD20 it's a great little beamer

Hiya,
I wondered if you could help me, I am 1 second away from buying this Projector ( well maybe 2 secs ) but I only have a small room.
Could you please tell me if you had a room only 14ft long, what size image would be cast and would it look good?
14ft is good. I have it about 6-7' away from only a 70" pull-down screen and it fills it up with about 2" to spare on each side, image is crystal clear obviously being that close. However though, just to make sure everyone understands (since this is in the 3D Vision forum), this projector IS NOT 3D.

I have the HD 200x which is the canadian version of the HD20 and it does NOT work in 3d at all. I am Waiting till the Hd66 comes out which is never fast enough.
But I will say that for $1000.00 its very good @1080p
Oh and My projector is at 16 ft from the screen and the screen is 118" wide-Across with just a little Zoom.FYI

Hey! Thanks for all your replies and comments. Did anyone try removing a pin from their vga cable so their pc couldn't tell what type of display was attatched? Then select 'generic dlp' display??? Just double-checking... I have old Asus shutterglasses and will probably try solder my own vga-pass through dongle to sync the projector with the shutterglasses first. Then if that doesn't work I'll get the Nvidia 3D vision kit. Many thanks.

The HD20 is an awesome projector, dos not work with 3d vision but I knew that when I bought it yesterday.
The clarity of picture is so sweet and I have my pc hooked up to it via Hdmi along with xbox 360. I have a screen size of about 110" now, not too shabby for a small room.

I have this projector and I have it running in awesome 3D. Its called anaglyph. IZ3D free driver and the PRO ANA glasses. Zero ghosting, no horrible shutter glass issues. Really, give it a try. Don't use the nvidia anaglyph driver as it messes up the colour spectrum.
