Lightboost worth it?
  1 / 2
Thinking of upgrading to the new monitors but I want to know if people think its worth while. Currently I am using FuHzion VX2265wm that I got two years ago and never really used 3d, even though I loved it I never had the computer to really run it. Now I do, but I am noticing the ghosting effect still and wonder if these new monitors are the end all of ghosting.

Thoughts?

I have the ASUS VG278H and can say that there is still ghosting (maybe I can get better results with different settings but I don't mind too much.
However, since I never had a nvidia 3d Vision 1 monitor I can't tell you if it's better now.

I can only tell you that for me, this monitor is worth every penny, I love it! /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />

I wish someone would make a video of 3d vision 1 monitor and 3d vision 2 monitor side by side and just put glasses in front of camera... we would still be able to see how dim 3d vision 1 is against vision 2.

I have yet to find such video though.

You should ask bloody@3d vision blog. Im not sure if he gets to keep any of his test monitors but maybe he is willing to do it.

We still arent at "zero ghosting" though on lcd monitors. Keeps improving but it seems their was a big jump in progress with 3d vision 2. DLP doesnt have ghosting at all though if bigger form factors interest you.

All I can say is for ME I tried the Vision 2 with lightboost monitors and had to turn it all the way down. Made the games washed out. Colors just to bright and washed out. Years ago they would say just turn up brightness to get less ghosting.. lol And you know I don't see Nvidia 3D glasses (3D Vision) becoming the norm.

Imo..yes, its worth the extra buck. I had a 3D Vision 1 setup with the Acer and upgraded now to the Asus. When playing f.e. Batman on the Acer I had to lower the contrast by a fair amount to reduce the ghosting to an acceptable level. Then the game looked a bit like two black men fighting each other in a dark cellar....with eyecovers on....during an eclipse....

Not only has the brightness become alot better - the ghosting has been reduced by a fair amount. Yes, there still is a little bit of ghosting here and there but it's on a level where (at least for me) it's not a big bother anymore.

Went from Acer to Asus with lightboost as well.. it's well worth it, imo. I don't feel the colors are terribly washed out personaly. I do wish both those monitors wouldn't peg the brightness to 100 in 3D mode, as that in itself probably bleaches things a bit. Infact, the sand on Tattooine in ToR looks a lot more yellowish with the Asus monitor, so I feel the colors actually improved.

Ghosting is almost non-detectable in some games. Skyrim (once you get past the intro screen) has the faintest of ghosting - I have to concentrate to see it.

I think it's definetly worth it and I have the great Asus VG278H also :)

Compared to the first Samsung 22RZ 3d vision 1 it's night and day. better in every way, less ghosting and bright with superb colours and I have never for a second find the picture washed out!

Now playing Hard Reset Extended Edition and man it's totaly awesome. You will never play in 2D anymore trust me /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

if i was you i would look into buying one of those new head mounted display units from sony http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2401356,00.asp i bought one 6 months ago and for 3d gaming it blows any monitor on the market away because you get zero ghosting and the colour defintion looks fantastic.but it does have issues with comfort but that can be overcome with a few simple mods and bit of time

also it rends in 720p in 3d but ive not noticed to much of a problem as i play star wars the old republic a lot and still prefer the hmd to my 1080p monitor any day

Ehhhh I looked into that thing and it looks awesome buuuut the main reason I wont be picking one up is that I don't have an HDMI out on my card. I think if my current card had I might have picked it up after testing it at the store. As is I think I will wait until a new version of that headset comes out before going for it. Hopefully by then I will have a new card with hdmi.

I'm new to all this, plan to buy expensive rig for playing in 3D right after GTX 680 goes for sale. I was going to buy Lightboost Asus monitor but your post and some search in the net made me doubtful. So to play 3D Vision games on this device I only need Nvidia graphic card? And all 3D Ready titles work as good as on 120Gz monitor?

Also what about ST1080 HD alternative?

well if you do plan on buying one of these sony hmd i would do some research or try one at your local sony store because even though i love the device some people have send theres back due mainly to comfort issues plus they cost alot of money

the hmd just plugs straight into the mini hmdi port at the back of the graphics card and your good to go

but like i said this can be over come with a bit of time but it took me 2 weeks of messing round with it to get it comfy

also some people complain that the edges never get into focus properly and look a tad fuzzy but mine is so small it not noticeable unless you read text so it does have its problems

but i never use my 22inch monitor any more i always use the hmd for gaming and watching movies it really is like looking at a theatre screen

the 720p res maybe a issue to some people due to some pixelization but i prefer the zero ghosting and vibrant colours and can put up with that

anyway try looking here for some info its where i went before i bought one http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1371946
