Can't adjust convergence in Avatar game? any solutions?
I'm playing on a 70 inch screen about 4 ft and the pop-out of my character in Avatar is just too extreme. Otherwise the game is beautiful. I want to adjust convergence unit my character is at screen depth, but can't find anything in the options and Nvidia convergence adjustment doesn't seem to work either... it just moves part of the map in the lower right.

Anyone know a solution to this? I want to play this game.

Thanks,
Ryan

I tried to play it on a 23" and I found the pop-out too extreme to continue playing so I can imagine your pain. I hate how some games lock convergence controls. I understand how they want to make sure cut-scenes remain sound but it's simply not worth it IMHO.

I'm gaming on a 100" screen dual projection with both parameters (screensize=100"+distance to screen=3,5 metres) entered as is and the experience needs no extra tuning. These are in the graphiccontrols for the avatargame. There's not really a good way of translating these into separation/convergence though.

Just try messing with the 3D options (ie screen size and distance). They need not be physically accurate. Just toy with them until you get something that looks good. In my case, I am using a 22" screen from about 0.5 meters. However in the options I said my screen size was 8" and distance from the screen 12 meters. You just have to work it.

I was just messin around with it and the higher you set the distance from the screen the lesser the convergence is. I'm only using a 22" monitor but I would think it works for any screen. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The depth setting seems very low compared to other games. The vergence is roughly two thirds of what I am used to when viewing distant objects etc and consequently the game looks unrealistic. When I can control depth and convergence I can get it to a point at 100% depth on my 22" monitor where it looks... real! I can't seem to do that with this game. :(

Adjusting the screen size and distance from the screen only seems to effect the depth/max depth, not the convergence.

A tried to get used to it by playing through for a while. If you chose to play as a Na'vi (and why wouldn't you?) it helps. The Na'vi character seems to be right at screen depth. I just got to the part where you start flying. Beautiful game... the are is spectacular (probably largely reused from movie material).

Enjoy,
Ryan

Maybe that's why. Lol! I just don't have the heart to play as rda. /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Avatar the game does not allow to tune convergence. I confirm that the screen size and distance are only used to tune the scale of the depth-meter.
The huge pop-out of the character also surprised me a lot the first time I played it, I had to start with very low separation and only progressively upped it until I got a comfortable picture that I found looks gorgeous.
It's this game that convinced me that reproducing real conditions (horizon at 6.5cm separation and convergence plane at screen depth) was not the best way to play games.
At first it looks weird, and a little flat, but I found that simply having a balanced picture between depth and pop-out with little separation provided me with a better sense of depth, quicker and easier picture reading and less eye strain.
