3D capable laptops The requirements needed for a laptop to work with NVIDIA 3D kit
I'm just now hunting down a nice laptop for myself and want it to be 3D capable. I'm looking at this one here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127476 I think it's also nearly identical to this one found on Sony's actual site: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666342155
I notice at the Sony website, it says right in the Title that it's 2D. But if I buy this laptop and buy an IR emitter and glasses from NVIDIA, will I be able to watch movies (and maybe play a couple games, though I don't think the GPU on here is quite powerful enough for most) in 3D?
From what I've seen on this website by just browsing around a bit, it would seem that all that's necessary is the emitter, glasses, 120hz+ display and capable GPU. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the Hz for this screen, but maybe someone around here might. I'm thinking the GPU is good enough since the same one is used for the 3D version of this laptop. So, I guess in the end, my question is if this laptop is compatible with the NVIDIA 3D kit.
If so, then I guess all those expensive 3D capable laptops are really only so much more expensive because it has a built in emitter.
If not, then... I guess I'll have to go without 3D :,(
Let me know if you've got some info!
Thanks :)

All of the 4xxM and 5xxM cards should be 3D capable. But 3D is usually sold and set for gaming. You don't often find the 540M/555M/560M machines going with a 3D screen.

If it's just movies, it probably isn't worth it hunting down. You could also buy a 3D-capable HDTV and hook up the TV & glasses to your laptop, and watch videos through that. It's really up to you.

Also what's your price limit for these "uber expensive 3D capable laptops"? I'm sure you could get one that's 3D enabled for not *that* much more... But if you're on a budget stick with 2D like 99.9% of the rest of the world.

So basically, 'No, this laptop will not work with an NVIDIA 3D kit'?

I didn't say that. For example, take a look at this machine: http://www.malibal.com/boutique/pc/configurePrd.asp?idProduct=283

If you keep stock settings and take a 485M and the 3D screen, you'll get your stuff. That'll be about 1700 though, I don't know if it's in your price range. It'll be one hell of a gaming machine, that's for sure.

Haha, I'm talking about the computer I posted.. So for the computer I posted, and for the computer I posted alone, it won't work in 3D.
That's sad, but oh well. I might still get it anyway, and a PS3 for 100 more (which does allow games and what not in 3d, but then again I'll need a screen for it.. maybe i'll invest in a 3D HDTV someday)
Anyway, thanks for the help!
