Hello forum,
i have recently acquired a 3dvision 2 ready monitor with the glasses and my rig is fairly decent so i am all ready and prepared for what 3d has to offer.
I am a big RPG fan so i am very much looking forward to what The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition and Skyrim has to offer in 3d. I have been looking at Helix's mods and they look very promising indeed and am very excited to get stuck in.
Are there any demos or any really interesting things/games the community can suggest for me to show off my 3d as my friends who are very keen gamers keep telling me i have wasted my money and 3d is dead/dying. I really want to wow them and hopefully convert them into 3d gamers too.
Thankyou for your help in advance

Welcome to the dark side.
Trine 2: 3D showcase. Make sure you increase the convegence (in game options)
Batman AA: the opening scenes are a 3D showcase, its converted many friends, and runs blindingly faster than arkham city.
Just cause 2: this game is mindblowing in 3D. Turn physx on and go to the beach, sea and wVes look stunning right?
Portal 2, metro 2033 Bulletstorm: all reat examples of 3D FPS. Check out steam deals etc as these games are often £5. Metro 2033, in the underground city, is literally VR. It is mind blowing.
With all games, good advice is, aim for higher FPS rather than IQ. A stunning 3D game that stutters along is no fun. For expample, just cause 2 blazes at 60fps per eye min on my gtx 680 (which is stunning).
To get to high i leave AA and advanced shadows off.
AA does so little on 1080 gaming but takes away soo much in terms of FPS.
Advanced shadows do look better, much softer, but again the trade in FPS is not worth it in my opinion.
Also to show off games in 3D, dont forget to unlock "advanced controls" in the nvidia driver and increase depth/convegence to get that "wow" factor.

thanks very much for the advice mate. Much appreciated. I am trying to gain as much knowledge as i can from these forums and reading as many topics as i can.

Great recommendations.
Hard reset and both borderlands are good too. Toy soldiers..
Both the watchers are excellent.
Make sure you download path of exile, it's free, stunning and what Diablo 3 could have been.
Torchlight 2 is great.
Try some racing games. They benefit from 3d massively. I think the race room open beta on steam is supposed to work well but haven't tried it yet.
Enjoy, you won't look back :-)

MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE
Go into the nvidia control panel --> set keyboard shortcuts and allow advanced options. I have no idea why nVidia decided to hide these settings. Convergence is sooooo importance. I would say as essential as the depth setting.
Have you tried Guildwars 2 as well? Its great fun and epic in 3D.
Look at the Helix mod though - I only use the cutscene fix as I don't mind the main HUD elements (map and cooldown effects being 2D when unit icons, selection boxes and mouse are 3D! :)
Gaming in 3D is not a gimick; it is the only way to game.

No problem, and sounds wise, but don't let it become more complicated then it needs to. The only thing you need to be aware of is enabling advanced controls, which unlocks convergence. Play around with both depth and convergence till you get something you like. If your eyes are going to cross eyed on close up objects, turn down convergence. If the distant scene is really hard to focus on, decrease depth.
Also don't forget to check out helix mod page. His mods literally involve copy and pasting a couple of things into the games folder, aka, child-splay!
Another thing is, don't trust nvidia 3D rating. Some games are rated excellent but are terrible in 3D. Likewise some games are rated poor on 3D but are amazing.
The only other tip i can think off is, disable 3D in the nvidia menu when you are not using it. Its fine on 99% of the time, but can cause problems with 2D games such as texture issues "far cry 2" and screen brightness locking.
Happy gaming :-)

First thing you need to know as a 3dvision newbie, go to 3d vision options on nvidia panel and activate shortcuts so that you can tweak convergence, it adds a LOT to the 3d effect. There's no bar that indicates the convergence level like depth has, so just hold the shortcut to increase the effect, you should notice it soon enough. Some games have it locked, The Witcher 2 for example if I remember well.
Oh ma' boy, you're in for a treat with the Witcher 2 in 3d, enjoy! Like Skyrim, it's one of the best games in 3d.
Other RPGs that work really well: Dragon age 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights, all mass effect games, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, Gothic 3 with community patch, Fable 3, Witcher 1, and many more I just don't remember right now.
Of course, Helix page is a must.

Lol, you posted this why i was posting mine, but anyway, I think all together the emphasis is clear. ENABLE ADVANCED SHORTCUTS lol. Nvidia do a terrible job of alerting users to this, why is it hidden!
Convergence imo is MUCH more inportant then depth. Depth without any convergence is not 3D. It would just simulate a massive 2D screen really far away. Thats why 3rd person games can be better showcases of 3D, as you can make it look like little models right in front of you with high convergence (aka very 3D). Doing this to a FPS makes you feel like a very small person, which i personally dont like as I dont find it as emersive, which is why a FPS on standard settings will look flater and less 3D (less convergence).

Im at work just literally waiting for it to end so i can get started. I really am hoping its the start of a new era of gaming for me. I want to know just how immersive 3d gaming can be. I will make sure i unlock convergence and make sure my fps is as high as i can get it. The community here seems to be carrying 3d on its back. Shame the majority of developers dont really give a shit.
Thanks again for all the advice and if there are any other tips/advice/recommendations then feel free to post.
I will put in my feedback when i play with it more later.

3D is so much more immersive then anything youve experienced before gaming wise. Get stuck into a great 3D game though, to not be dissapointed. Just cause 2 would be one of my picks as mix of, most fun game (though no story) and most beautiful. You will feel the warmth of the sun on your face, it really is that stunning. As long as its pretty smooth when your paragliding through the trees, then the whole game will run butter smooth. I would definitly advise just to buy at least one top 3D game (not demo) and get stuck in, if you have a fast connecton steam can probably get it to you within 60 mins with their new server upgrade (I get 2MB/s)
Anyway, if you have any troubles have a look on the forum and if you cant find an answer start a thread, but definitlynlet us know what you think when youve got it running smooth.
Talking of which, what GPU and CPU do you have?

gpu is an i7 (not sure of the specs tho, forgot) which is overclocked to around 4.2 ghz and im running a 580 gtx overclocked at the mo. I have had the rig for about 2 years now and i have been able to run every game on the highest settings without any issues. Im very tempted to upgrade to a 680 gtx but i think i will hold back for the mo.

Cpu: bang on, all good
gpu: Dont upgrade to gtx 680 unless you have money to burn, games in 3D are definitely smoother, but its not a huge upgrade, not relative to the price. a gtx 700 series, when they come out, will definitely be worth your interest. However, a gtx 580 will want some more eye candy turned down on games like the witcher 2 and batman Arkham city. they will still look amazing, and much better then 2D with all candy on, so don't lose sleep about it.
As for the GPU OC, word of advice. I did loads of benchmarking (in real games). Cpu over clocking always raised FPS across the board, until the OC was so large it started to become unstable. However, GPU over-clocking sped up my synthetic benchmarks, but lowered frame rates of many games, inc
Just Cause 2
gta IV
Batman AA
I found only a very small gpu over clock was beneficial in all games, so small in fact i decided it wasn't worth it. maybe I was doing something wrong, but looking around on the net it does seem that the gtx 500 and 600 do not over clock that well.
Anyway your rig should be an amazing experience for 3D. Have fun tonight!!!

I remember just looking at things like book shelves, logs on the floor, windows etc. They all have a presence.
Please increase your depth. Many here play at 100% all the time for hours on end. I have no idea why nVidia set the default so low. It can look a little jarring if you look at the scene when you increase depth though - I tend to look at the OSD now.
Convergence is a funny one and takes a bit to tweak but when it is right 3D comes alive! Too little and 3D is flat - too much and it can be headache inducing - just right and the fabric textures on people's armour, the little in game details to grand vistas become awesome.
I can't wait for you to discover it. Check out the toyification link in my sig too! Something unique for us 3D gamers! ;)

Something unique for us 3D gamers! ;)
Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
