Bioshock 1 question
Well, I re bought Bioshock 1 because 2 isn't ready yet and I notice this black like shadow that appears at the wrong depth around things. The only way to get rid of it is to lower my depth and convergence to the point of uselessness. I was just wondering if this is the ghosting people were talking about or if Bioshock one just isn't really good 3D wise.
Yes I have ticked on and off all settings.
Any advice?

Bioshock 1 just doesn't look right in 3D Vision. I found the best way to minimize all of this was to play with low depth and a little increased convergence. Bottom line is Bioshock 1 just doesn’t work well in 3D. Not to mention I get horrid FPS in it in 3D … and I run dual 285s.

Played Bioshock 1 in 3D 2 weeks ago. Played the game 2 years ago @2560x1600 4xaa max settings dx9 on 2x8800gtx in sli with fps 50-60 nvsync.
This time played in 3DVision dx10 1920x1200 4xaa on same rig except 2xGTX285s. Smooth >60fps per eye with nvidia recommending settings in game options menu.
For the most part BS1 is an awesome experience in 3D, except for a few areas where directional lighting is not rendered in 3D (ft frolic atrium), worse is anywhere there is fog effect which is also 2D (in arcadia after the toxic gas is released). Of course the "distortion" effect must also be disabled. This effect mimics refraction and is generally responsible for some of the excellent water effects in the game.

The immersiveness of the environments in rapture are brilliantly accentuated using 3dvision, and shows the potential of stereoscopic visualization. If devs would focus on creating lighting, post-processing and other effects that are truley 3D this potential can be realized.

Overall if you have played BS1 before play through again casually (perhaps turining on cheats) in 3D to enjoy the story and environments in a new way, in some areas where 3D does not work well (including the opening sequence plane crash) just hotkey it off for a while.

Man … I had the exact opposite experience from you … so I got some questions cause I don’t think your lying about your experience. I wouldn’t mind a screenshot or two.

I run a system based of evga x58 trisli board, i7 965ee @ 3.2, 2x gtx 285, 12gb ram @1600 … I was lucky to see my system break 15 fps in 3D (this is in bioshock 1 only thus far) 1920x1080 4xaa and win7 ultimate 64bit. All of the recommended settings by nVidia were turned off.

Aside from the horrid fps (I can’t shoot accurately looking at a slide show lol) the doubling up of things was so god awful … everything had a dark halo around it. I have seen similar problems is Bioshock 2 but not anywhere near as bad. Any thing you can recommend me try?

I agree with the comments about BS1....it is a shame it is not perfect as it is such an awesome game.
Performance wise though my 295 has no issues at all though.

What driver are you using?
Does SLI bar indicate that SLI is working?

Honestly I never fall below a amooth 60fps each eye vsync at 1920x1080 on acer gd235hz.
Try setting max prerendered frames from 3 to 0 in nvcp this helps on some configs but i did not change it.
Also might try experimenting with triple buffer.
This could be a windows 7 / driver issue.

Right now I am on beta 196.34, but I have tried it with the 3 previous whqls that come with the 3 previous 3dvision driver pack cd things lol

Sli is working and in 2d it runs perfect in 3d its takes like an 85% hit to my frames

I am sure you are right it is drivers. Sinced I upped from vista to 7 i have been having a lot of problems. The OS itself is stable as can be ... my games all crash a lot.

Since I got win 7 i cant even get fallout 3 to launch ... it doesnt do anything when i launch it ... doesnt even show in task manager ... nothing

source engine games (mainly css) randomly lock up and while i can tell my pc drops back to desktop cause of sounds (vent kept working i could hear but couldnt talk) the screen remains black and i cant send any commands to the pc so i reboot

The drivers I found worked best for bioshock 2 in 3d dont run in 2d and vice versa lol (but thats bs2 i dont blame drivers for that mess ... not yet atleast)

I dont have anything overclocked cept the mobos default is 1333 and i got it up with my rams rated speed 1600 ... board was designed and specced to do it just defaults at 1333 so i dont consider it overclocked ...

When i put it together it was on vista 64 and i ran every stability test i could think of, prime, furmark, some on to stress ram cant remember the name

So i dunno

2 years ago this month I built the system in my sig and started with Vista32. 80% of games frequently crashed under relatively immature driver-vista combo. Actually switched back to XP to play bioshock and a few other games. After sp1 nvidia drivers for vista became much more reliable and now are very stable.

Many people are experiencing the same with Windows7 (though fewer driver crashes than the vista debacle) especially with legacy games, (many cant' run Crisis on Windows 7). Last month decided to upgrade to a 64bit os. I chose vista and I'm glad I did. May investigate 7 after sp1.

Give the set max prerendered frames tweak in ncp a try though, some on 2k forums have found it to work.

You're better off turning off the shadows and still having a good 3D experience with lots of depth. You don't really notice the shadows aren't there TBH.

Likely so, but for me it is aweful even at minimum depth. Completely ruins any possibility of enjoying the game. These halo's aren't the same as what you see when you see ghosting though ... something different. Think Borderlands comic style outlines, but make them translucent and wider ... I get that around almost everything.

Likely so, but for me it is aweful even at minimum depth. Completely ruins any possibility of enjoying the game.
