Will 3Dvision work on a "True" 120Hz HDTV... (re-post from another thread)
Hi guys. I have just purchased a 70" Vizio P Series 4K HDTV. The TV through HDMI 2.0 accepts 4K@60Hz and 1080p@120Hz. Will this suffice to then purchase the 3DVision 2 kit and enable 3D support through my GTX980 SLI PC? As far as I know a 1080p@120Hz input is what is needed (60Hz per eye) to be compatible with 3DVision. The Vizio P Series does not come with built in 3D (Active or Passive) as this was one of the features that Vizio dropped in order to allow for the excellent price. Anyway I am well aware that the "phony" 120Hz HDTV's will not be compatible due to the way they "produce" the 120Hz effect (basically the input is 60Hz and then through the TV's backlight it creates a pseudo "120Hz" effect). This IS NOT the case with the Vizio P series. It is "True" 1080p@120Hz. Again through the new HDMI 2.0 connector. So given these factors will 3DVision 2 work? I really want to purchase a kit as I have always been interested in playing games in 3D (watching movies is also something I would like to try). I already have both the Oculus Rift DK1 and DK2 so 3D Gaming is something I now want to try. Any help would be appreciated! Edit: I have re-posted my question as I was not aware that there was a dedicated 3DVision section on these forums. And besides I got very little interest in the "GeForce Lounge" where I had originally posted the question (Sorry to anyone who already read it!). Thank You to anyone who can help me with some concrete info. Other places I have asked this question it has been answered with guesses and never an actual Yes or No. Thanks!

There's a thread on doing pretty much exactly that here. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/809446/3d-vision/3d-vision-seiki-4k-not-working-/1/ And a follow up here. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/810338/cross-talk-120hz-/#4458718 In short, you may be able to get it to work at 720p (definitely not 1080p), but the results will likely be mediocre. With a SLI 980 rig though, you're perfectly set up for 3D. It's absolutely worth picking up a 3D projector (best option), or monitor (go for something 1080p, the newer 1440p models have issues).

I will check out those links you posted! Okay, so I checked out the links you posted. The main difference is that that TV the articles are about (39" Seiki 4k) is MAJORLY inferior to the 4K Vizio P Series. The Seiki is a cheapo 4K set that only does 4K@30Hz. The P series Vizio is a full featured 4K TV that knocks shoulder with the best from Samsung, Sony and LG. The fact that he got 3DVision to work to the extent that he did with a crappy sub $500 4K set means that I should have much better luck with a quality 4K set. I just wish there was something more definitive. I may have to just purchase the 3DVision 2 kit and try my luck. I think it will work though given the test case with the crappy Seiki. Plus I am curious why they were tricking the LCD into thinking it was a DLP projector? Wouldn't it make more sense to mod the .inf to think it was using a monitor of similar panel type. Oh well.... I will have to answer these question for myself I suppose. Sometimes that is the way you learn the most! Thanks for your help @Pirateguybrush!

I'm looking at using the same TV, and I'd love to know your findings with the P Series and 3D vision. If you could update us with any update you might have, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

3D Vision does not work with HDMI-based displays (and their native 3D glasses) - 3DTV Play is required for HDMI-based displays. Also, use high-speed HDMI cable (often labelled as supporting 3D and 4K) for interconnection. See https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/809649/3d-vision/please-add-hdmi-2-0-support-to-3dtv-play-/1/ for more discussion, including key limitations and issues (please contact NVIDIA Customer Care, and request product update).
