...that WinXP is not supported! how I realized that is I went to download the most recent driver and while WinXP is listed, nothing was shown until I selected Win7 and then I realised that maybe it is Vista/Win7 only. Looking on the box confirmed that.
Damn. What is the reason for that? DirectX? Geesh, I wasn't ready to put 6 hours installing everyting again and wasn't ready to spend another 200$ either (ok 120$ with the OEM trick).

My guess is they aren't gonna put manpower to develop technologies for an OS that will be leaving the market soon as with all the other companies, such as Microsoft.

Searching for topics on this I found that nVidia once said it was not impossible to run on XP and they will follow the demand. I guess the demand was not strong enough.
But if someone at nVidia is reading and is aware of a beta driver for XP then I'd like to test it out, this until I move to Windows 7 later this year.

Bloody, did you mean that the Quadro drivers would work with a non Quadro card? For example, using a GTX 260 with quadro drivers would give you quad-buffered OpenGL support, so you would be able to see OpenGL applications in 3d?

I'll never understand XP love. I hated XP for just about all of my years with it. It was ugly, unsteady and unintuitive and the x64 version was pretty much trash. I used OSX whenever I could, but for gaming, there was no choice but to use XP. I was so happy to be rid of it when Vista x64 came along (especially after sp1), and Windows 7 has taken the top spot of my favorite OS from OSX.

Shouldn't there be improvements when introducing new systems?
Nvidia displaydriver support for win7 is really crap. I really need a way to run the projectors in horisontal mode. (Not same as desktop extended!). That and that the nview simply is gone (profiling made shifting between projectors and my other screen really easy). That, and the poor performance (well, sort of, some games runs equal on win7 but most of them still runs better with xp) and the frigging many unfreely bluescreens/reboots while using win7 is more than i can bare. /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />
I still run win7 but have winxp as well. I bet gaming runs better with winxp on any system compared to win7 and then support for xp is since quite long gone...
I know the days for xp is counted but as is today win7 has nothing to offer that isn't better in xp. (well, cosmetics and newer look maybe... i'm a dinosaur so i don't care). I want a working computer. Xp works, win7 bugs...

Haha, the XP debate again. Thought that would have died down by now. Let's see what Win7 offers to players vs XP: proper multi-core support, DX11, trim for SSDs, improved MGPU performance, 3D VISION, way better stability, intelligent use of system resources... Seriously, anyone still using Xp either has a way way outdated setup or simply no idea at all about what they are doing.

Not a single one of them are valid arguments because there isn't support for it in older systems because developers chosen not to. Not because of technical limitations.
My setup:
Mb: Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Cpu: C2D E6600
Gb: Nvidia 7900GT + 8800GTX
3D:100" passive projector polarized setup + 22" IZ3D
Not new but absolutely not outdated. I have way worse stability (bluescreens/reboots) in win7, everything updated. Way worse displaydriver (no special options anymore, nvidia or microsoft fault?). Xp has multicoresupport, if it has developed instead of vista/win7 that support would be better than for win7 (makes sense right?). Xp would have both dx10 dx11 or whatever support if systemmakers chosen too. Anything else is an illusion. Improved mgpu is on the displaydriver and would developed similar as multicoresupport. 3d-vision.... You must be joking right? Xp can't handle 3d-vision because nvidia chosen not to. It's all about developement and some choose to reinvent the wheel all over and over again for the reason of being profitable. Simple as that and i don't like it. I want a bouncerball that bounces nice even if a little shabby and not a shiny one that make holes in the floor....
I don't mind namechanging, systemchanging or improvements but they have to be improvements. Both performancewise and cosmetically. Performance and stability comes first though.
Once win7 is working properly then support will be gone for it in favour for another op-system. And it will happen faster than the later changes. It simply brings developers more money for those who wants "something new".

The thing I look at here is the resources necessary to support obsolete operating systems. And yes, I do view XP as obsolete. Once Microsoft stops selling a 10 year old operating system where you can't even buy it from them anymore that's obsolete in my book.
So "what if" they divided the resources they have to support both new OS and old OS? Well, I would expect there to be drivers for both Vista/Win7 and also for Windows XP. The drivers would be crappier. The support would be weaker, as they have to divide resources.
So in my view, they should just focus on Windows 7. Get the absolute best driver and support they can with the available resources. If that means someone has to upgrade their 4-year-old CPU to use the new technology, so be it. It's new technology!

Why do everybody assume you have to CHANGE operationalsystem? It's fully possible to upgrade it as a evolutionprocess but developers choose not to do. What's the talk about obsolete? As long as a system is maintained it won't become obsolete. With this i mean that they can easily upgrade windows as an op-system instead of frequently and entirely starting from scratch. This way they will only support/upgrading one op-system and doesn't have to tear up their resources in between. Newer hardwares will be implemented fluent as well as new protocols like dx10, 11 etc etc... If this doesn't make sense then i don't know...
Yet again: It's all about money and a lot of effort is lost with this model. I will change to win7 the day i gain more from it. As is today the drivers and performance is a pure joke... It looks better though.

Personally I find Vista to be a great deal more stable and more secure than XP ever was. I can't even remember the amount of blue-screens and crashes I used to get on XP, on Vista I don't think I've had one blue screen in the past 2 years, or a virus. I've tested Windows 7 a bit and no problems there either. While XP might still work I am not sure there is an argument that it is better than 7. While Vista or 7 don't have any one huge feature to them, it is a lot of little things that make a better package. If you have an old machine maybe its not worth upgrading, but if you are building a machine today there is no question to install a modern OS.

Damn. What is the reason for that? DirectX? Geesh, I wasn't ready to put 6 hours installing everyting again and wasn't ready to spend another 200$ either (ok 120$ with the OEM trick).
