Hi,
I need to disable LightBoost while in stereoscopic mode. I have a BENQ XL2420T monitor that I purchased so that I can create stereoscopic films. I do not want LightBoost, as it is distorting the colors and contrast of the image.
Additionally, with this monitor, I am seeing a very ugly pattern on the screen whenever LightBoost is enabled. It looks like someone slapped the screen with a dirty wet rag. From an artist point of view, this is an EPIC FAIL. BENQ did not reply to my support request.
My GPU is Quadro FX 3700, I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1.
I have tried the strobelight app, but it is designed to ENABLE LightBoost in non-stereo modes. I want to DISABLE it completely, forever.
If this is not possible, then I am very unhappy. I am willing to open up the monitor and snip some wires somewhere if that is what it takes. Otherwise, if anyone has suggestions for 3D Vision compatible 120Hz monitors that DON'T have LightBoost, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!
Aaron

On this BENQ XL2420T, there is an OSD control for LightBoost brightness. It actually has a setting for "OFF" but it does not work! LightBoost can't be turned off while in stereoscopic mode.
God I hate this. "Progress" is so often such a massive step backward. Looks like I will have to try to find an old monitor, all of the new ones have this horrible feature. DO NOT WANT!!!

Really, seriously, from an aesthetic standpoint, Lightboost is an abomination. I know the target market is gamers, not filmmakers... but still. There needs to be an option to turn this feature off.
Can't the drivers be written to do this? The monitor is taking marching orders from the driver, right? There's no reason why Lightboost must be enabled when stereoscopic mode is enabled.
Hey NVIDIA developers, when you have a minute could you PLEASE add a switch in the control panel to disable Lightboost?

I completely agree that there should Always be a way to disable features. It's not that hard, and there are some rare times when it's necessary. It's even useful for testing things back-to-back.
Having noted that, your complaint is pretty confusing to me. It sounds like you are filming the monitor itself in order to make your video, which I would expect to be a really roundabout way to get 3D footage.
Seems like you'd be far better off to use the NVidia ShadowPlay to capture full speed video in 3D. But that would require a GPU upgrade.
Filming a system that uses LCD rotation to block light is fraught with peril. Some cameras introduce their own aliasing and fringing and moire effects.
