TBH, I cant even imagine it in 3D.

Yeah, that's a good point. There's no real depth or perspective in their layouts, so even if you did get a layered effect it could never really look "right".

If this game is dx9....maybe all layer are at screen depth?? or 3D don't kick in??
i'm thinking - if the game render 3D but all layers at screen deth - to transform to 3D...it's an idea, i don't have the game, so i don't know what happens with the 3D.
Yeah I can't see why you'd even want to use 3D on a game meant to look like paper stop motion cutouts.
Madness! They're the best kind to use 3D on ... they wind up literally looking like little cardboard cutouts! :P
... which reminds me I've been meaning to post something. :)

Isn't that the effect ppl rail against with depth buffer 3D?
Kinda, but with depth buffer you've got 3d images looking like 2d planes. Try Limbo, Rayman Origins/Legends, and I believe there's a few others - the layered cardboard cutout look is great on "2d" games.

Yeah ... there's kind of a difference between seeing cardboard cutouts as cardboard cutouts in 3-dimensional space and seeing full rendered 3D models as cardboard cutouts in not so 3-dimensional space ... :)
I [s]may[/s] even have an extra steam key for Limbo if you think you'd be interested in playing it ... I warn you though it's a brutal little game, it'll kill you lots! :)

TBH, I dont think any of it has depth, not even background. So I doubt depth buffer would work or at least well.
It kind of looks like when you were a kid you probably had a "place mat". Which was a plastic background you use and all objects/characters are stickers.
Then everything scales[shrinks] from Y distance from bottom [or however the stage layout is done, Final Fantasy 7-9 did it but with 3D models on 2D background]. Where lower objectives are given priority over higher [so they show infront of]. So it "looks" like characters/objects have depth but not really.

Yeah I agree that it most likely won't work with this game, especially after watching video of it ... definitely looks like it's all the action is on one layer, not that it wouldn't have been really cool looking if it was a 3D background though. Reminds me of the game Hell Yeah! I was able to get it to work in 3D but you, the enemies and all the action is on one layer, there's one background scrolling layer and one foreground 'layer' for menus and dialog/cutscenes iirc ... but essentially the whole game, gameplay-wise takes place on that one layer and doesn't look good at all.
