Decision in new Monitor , need help.
Hello , im building a new PC and i still havent decided on the monitor.Im in between the Asus PG279Q and the PG278QR.They are similar in many ways but the 9Q is IPS where as the 8Q is TN and also supports 3DVISION.After a little bit of research i believe i would be better off with an IPS panel since i like to watch a lot of movies and in comparison to the 8Q it even has a lower combined lag.I also like playing a lot and im thinking of buying nvidia 3DVISION and trying some games in 3D and also ofc movies. So i was wondering if you guys that own 3DVISION think its worth it and if it is which monitor would you recommend, i would like it to have an IPS panel and QHD resolution with a high refresh rate. Thanks!!!

I was an early adopter of 3D Vision. I got the 3D Vision kit when it first launched in late 2009, and back then only monitor bundled at launch was Samsung 2233RZ 22". If you've never experienced gaming in 3D Vision then you'd be quite surprised and amazed to see the difference. I've been gaming in 3d for almost 8 yrs now, and ever since I've never owned a non-3D monitor and never played a single game in 2D. It totally spoils your gaming experience, and there's no going back :) In fact, if I load a game in 2D now it gives me kinda eye strain :) Now that we have a great community that fixes every new game, the experience is near flawless. As to which 3D monitor I can recommend. I have the Asus PG278QR myself, which was a replacement of earlier version PG278Q. This is the highest resolution that currently supports 3D Vision and the only 1440p 3D Vision monitor on the market that has close to zero scanlines or vertical lines issue. Dell has S2716DG with similar specs and I've tried it. It has bad ghosting and vertical lines issues in 3D so stay away from it. These are the only 1440p monitors available. There's no news on the horizon of any 4k 3D Vision monitors anytime soon, but with DisplayPort 1.4 products expected next year things may change. In short, for now Asus PG278QR is the best you can get if you've got the cash. Hope this helped your decision making :)

If you don't give 3d a chance and like games you are doing yourself an extreme disservice. Nothing compares visually to a properly supported 3d vision game. I am with captain on this one, but as goodluck running 3dvision in 4k anyway. (I hear there is a 4k asus 3dvision monitor on the horizon)

Just know that not very many games are 3D Vision Ready out of the box, especially newer games. But there are fixes made by members of this community for quite a few of them. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/10/game-list-automatically-updated.html To me, 3D opens up a window to the soul of a game. You'll experience it on a whole 'nother level. You'll notice stupid little details, like the buttons on a coat, things that otherwise just fade into the background. In World of Warcraft, I would love using my farsight ability to look at enemy models up close while staying out of combat. WoW has pretty simple textures and character models, but in 3D, they look so much better. Make sure that you adjust convergence for the best experience. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/545286/

3D Vision spoils you, there's NO going back once you've seen it, no.. I mean experienced it !! With spoiled I mean: I loved Dishonored 1, and bought Dishonored 2 allmost instantly after release, installed it right away, but haven't even booted the game once, because it hasn't been fixed.. I sure hope that the day comes eventually, but untill then I'd rather have another go with the first one... ATM I'm "living" in the wastlands in FO4 for the second time.. and still I can just stare at all the little details that comes so much alive in 3D.. Just go and by that Asus PG278QR, you wont regret it - thats a promise :)

Welcome TheGeniusKiller :) I would suggest buying the monitor from BestBuy as they have no questions asked return policy. None of the other retailers have this policy. Try the monitor and see if you like it. If not you can return it open box in 14 days with full refund. I had a hard time deciding between Dell S2716DG and Asus PG278Q, and none of the reviews mentioned the quality of 3D. I ended up buying both, and PG278Q won the comparison. I also buy from BestBuy for other reasons, like dead pixels and backlight bleeding. I believe that having dead pixels or bleeding issues in a monitor this overpriced and expensive is totally unacceptable. That peace of mind knowing you can return it. All other retailers have some restrictions around those issues. Also shipping the monitor back to online retailers is an extra inconvenience. Try the following sites once you get the monitor to test it for defects: http://www.gdargaud.net/Hack/DeadPixels.html http://tft.vanity.dk/
