Some say yes, you should search 1280x800. May require inf. hack, I think its locked by nvidia and optoma for quality reasons. The pj may not be able to display 800p 3d fast enough, resulting in ghosting at top or bottom.

Currently there are 2 projectors on the Nvidia 3D Vision requirement list that are capable of 1280x800. The NP-V300X and the NEC NP-V300W http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-system-requirements.html
If your DLP chip is the same as the NEC NP-V300W, you could obtain an .inf file from one and could probably do an EDID override. I agree, unused resolution going to waste is a bummer. I played for a short while in 1280x800 but was plagued by the warning as well. I've heard you can change the overlay color to something a little more transparent/annoying. Unfortuneately EDIDs have been suppressing resolutions worldwide since their inception, as well as being the source of a whole slew of video/audio problems.

Is this a limitation of HDMI, or is there a way arround it. it has no DVI input. (its an optoma GT720)
Cant help but feel like im wasting the projectors full potential by having it at 720p...
thanks!
