Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag - DX11 3DMigoto Fix
  7 / 14
@mike_ar69: Good to hear that You have ACL, too :) For testing the fix I've played it for some hours (in 2D only 10 min...) and had some fun with it. It's not outstanding, feels more like a DLC for AC3 than a stand-alone. Gameplay is classic AC, story (as usually) petty. But I like the setting with New Orleans, the Bayou and especially a female assassine. Also climbing in the vegetation in the Bayou feels to me much better than in AC3. I hope You will enjoy the game... Regarding the technical aspects: I don't think that there had been a patch for the game so it should be 1.0. The game will crash with Migoto and 337.50. It only runs with 320.49 and the dlls from the AC4 fix. When hunting is enabled I get strange artefacts (white pixels) but with debugging disabled the game runs fine. I've already turned off AA when I made both shader cashes (daytime and inside the de Grandpré mansion). The de Grandpré mansion (home of Aveline) is a good place to observe the remaining lighting issues at an early state in the game. @bo3b: Thank You for the compliment! To be honest I'm very happy that now mike_ar69 as a pro owns the game and has direct access to it ;) But I will also have a look at it and try to contribute to a fix. Unfortunately the code for shaders is a closed book for me. I only have some experiences with lua and autohotkey scripts. They are easy to learn as You can read it like normal text. But shader code looks very cryptic and mathematical to me :S So I'm very, very happy and much obliged for the people that are coding and organizing the shader fixes like You!!!

Due to lack of 3D Vision support, I had bought the PS4 version of AC 4. Because of your fix (and only because of it) I additionally purchased the PC verision yesterday (you should get percentage:-)). ...and... I am blown away. It is so much more beautiful, immersive, fascinating than the 2D Version (which looked great for itself). AC 4 in real 3D is a totally new ecperience. This is not exaggerated at all. Thank you so much for that! Best, Sam

I know this comes up every now and then and can be a little sensitive... but I would gladly donate some $ in thanks for this work. Seriously game-changing... in both ways.

I, for one, applaud their decision.

Hi

I have just bought AC4 and the link on the front page's done busted! Could someone post a link to the fix for me please?

Thanks
Thanks! edit I get really poor performance on my rig. Is my set up too old now? I haven't upgraded in a while... What FPSs are others getting?
This game is definitely resource intensive... and doesn't seem very well optimized (very inconsistent frame rates and settings don't affect FPS exactly as expected). I've got your same setup with a 780Ti and I get about 32fps average with everything maxed out at 720p. I've tried lowering some settings, but have found it takes essentially disabling everything (and not looking very good) to get up above 40 for me, so I've decided to enjoy the maxed out version and accept some slow spots at times. I'd be curious as well what other people are getting. I've noticed the FPS are most affected by NPCs... so I'm thinking our CPUs may be the main bottleneck (although you're clocking quite a bit higher than I am).

I did some performance profiling on the game to make sure that 3Dmigoto was as optimized as I can make it presently. In my tests, the CPU is in fact not even being fully utilized, while both GPUs are at 100%. I was worried that it might be missing the ability to use other cores, but that was not it. It does use the other cores as needed, it's just that it's sooo GPU bound that the CPU is waiting for the GPU to finish a frame. My setup is SLI GTX 580, pretty old by today's standards, but still roughly as good as a single 770. The setting that made the most difference is the Environmental Quality. But AA can also put the GPUs down. PhysX doesn't seem to be much of a load here (or improve things that much either). It's always possible that turning down settings switches over to CPU bound, I didn't look carefully at that. @andysonofbob: A single 670 here is going to be on the edge of playable. This is one of two games now that make me think it might be time for an upgrade. (MetroLL)

The PhysX doesn't do much in AC4, and wasn't even added until a patch. It's mainly the pistol smoke if I remember correctly. The turbulence effect is pretty cool, but it introduces some dead ugly jaggies and haloes around the main character.
This is one of two games now that make me think it might be time for an upgrade. (MetroLL)
MetroLL is outstanding, but I'll caution against upgrading for AC4. With SLI 770s, I was getting about 40fps with medium settings. This is in the beta, I've not yet sat down to play the full game. Maybe by the time I do, blood decals or other minor issues will be sorted out. :) But back on topic, it's just really poorly optimised. As was AC3 - from SLI 660s to SLI 770s, I barely saw a difference in performance.

Wow! That's raw. I'm not sure what to make of that! I have only just started the game. The sea section seemed ok FPS wise. The jungle bit (where I got to) was rough as... though! Are the city sections better or worse? It does look like a beautiful game so I can see why it is resource hungry.

It's not like other more urban AC games, where being in the city really smashed your framerate. I'd say the performance is relatively even throughout the game. If the jungle bit where you were allowed you a high vantage point where you could fit lots of scenery into the screen, then that would probably be indicative of the rest of the game. MetroLL is the primary reason I upgraded to 3Dvision and Titans! I did that before the game even came out, in anticipation. And I'm so glad I did. It was so nice to just crank up the settings and play, rather than battling with the framerate the whole way through like I did with Metro2033.

I took a 3d screenshot of the wrong depth stars that I am seeing in the game. To get the game to this point I loaded it up while my character was standing in Havana. I went and did some chores and checked back every so often. It took about 15 minutes or so to cycle to night but I wanted to post a screenshot of it. Regardless of that minor issue, this game looks so much better in 3D and it was already good to look at before. I think I spend more time in game running around admiring the scenery now than actually playing it!
