I'm SO Frustrated With 3D - Asus G73JW-3DE : Can't Get It To Work =(
Hi Everyone,

I need YOUR help. I was one of the first to receive this unit and it's been nothing but endless problems in regards to its 3D option.

The unit comes with a built in 3D emitter and a pair of nVidia 3D glasses (120hz screen).

I updated my drivers via the Asus website just as a side note.

Whenever I pull up the nVidia control panel, I see several options. Previously, I had the option in a sub-menu that was labeled stereostopic 3D, but now it's gone. When I DID have it enabled, I tried WOW, SC2 and BFBC2. In SC2/BFBC2, I saw misalligned colours and red allover the screen. I fully charged my glasses (green light) and even after wearing them and pressing the button, 3D would not work.

I spent an entire Saturday trying to troubleshoot this. Asus will not provide technical support b/c they don't even know the laptop exists. They're all idiots over there - spoke to 6 reps and 1 sup, and they keep telling me to plug it into a 3DTV b/c 3D laptops with 3D friendly screens don't exist.

So what can I do? How can I get my stereostopic 3D submenu back and how can I make games work? I'm so angry right now at the whole ordeal. This should of been plug n play from the moment I opened the box.

Thanks.

It's trying to display the wrong kind of 3D - it sounds like it is trying to do the red/blue glasses thing!

Go to the nVidia control panel again, click the help menu at the top, and select system information. That should show you what version of the drivers you have installed.

I'm betting you have an old (possibly VERY old) set of drivers in there. The question is, will you be able to update the drivers on a laptop? Those things frequently block driver updates.

The driver link you linked ^ will not work (not compatible). I went back to the factory driver disc and reinstalled the graphics driver.

The stereoscopic 3D option has returned in the sub-menu of the nVidia control panel. I just tried all my 3D "excellent" rated games and they will not work. Sure the colours have changed on my screen, but the gameplay is unbearable; it's just a mess of colours.

OK, so I'm assuming you either have an ASUS G53 or G73...

His drivers are newer than my drivers! Unless NVIDIA added 460M support *very* recently, those drivers should do just fine.

Voodooi, go to the NVIDIA control panel and select the "Set up stereoscopic 3D" option. There should be something saying "Stereoscopic 3D display type" with a dropdown list under it. It should not say "3D Vision Discover". If it does, select your monitor from the list. A '3D Vision Ready' logo should pop up to the right of the dropdown list.

If you're still having problems, go down to the "Test stereoscopic 3D" button and click the down arrow then select the setup option.
