DOOM 3 - BFG Edition Finally Stereo 3D support !!!
Looks like ID Software finally developed Stero3D update to theirs OpenGL engine. At the moment it will be on ID Tech 4 but who knows it might also hit fifth one (RAGE, Doom4).
They didn`t say anything about 3D Vision itself so there is a question to Nvidia - is there any info about it ?
Whole information is here:

Carmack also added that new support for 3D TVs, monitors and head-mounted displays will be featured in the new set, giving gamers "more depth than ever before."
"We think shooter fans everywhere will love it," he said.

It would be awesome if they did. However I don't imagine it will work with 3d vision = / unless they are dropping opengl for PC. I got a bad feeling though this will only be for console gamers. Maybe someone can get some answers.
Now I have to hope that they will redo the riddick games mmmmm......

True, however, it's good news for 3D support in general.
Here is a little bit more about Carmack`s Stereo 3D idea. It`s more like Virtual Reaity idea which been actually mentioned here at 3D Vision Forum (Head Mounted setup witch TrackIR).

I agree that resolution is a bit to small but probably this is screen restriction. You know progress - you have to start witch something. i am also looking forward to that 90 degree FOV.
One thing is great about it - ID Software will be converting theirs games to work in new enviroment. I remember how dificult it was for me to play Arma2 with TrackIR (gun in one direction and head to another). In "open" 3D enviromet it suppose to be a lot easier.

Design is good. Ive always imagined the perfect HMD to be reminiscent of night vision goggles.
Price is good(atm). Concerned about the build it yourself aspect. Will they at least give us straps, etc.
I do think I will get one. Hopefully the build it yourself aspect will come into play and people will be able to swap out displays.
They've got to get the resolution up to 1080p+ per eye for this thing to be a success IMO. My 46" at the back end of my desk gets me almost 90 and the only way i would use a 27" 3D monitor (VG278H) gets me up there as well; i pull it so close to me my keyboard it on top of the base. Theres plenty of 3D depth at those distances. I just don't think there is enough demand to compromise on resolution.
I'm glad John Carmack is into 3D, but i hope he also figures out how story telling can contribute to a virtual reality experience, because some of us are already figuring out how to put our minds in this "virtual reality" mindset and while in this mindset were encountering supposedly key NPC game characters who will say stuff like "Hi, Im Joe and my car needs a part. If you go to the mutant's home and get the part they stole [and slaughter them], i'll give you a small reward." *pop up accept/decline dialogue box* That is not realistic human behavior, not believable, yet that is what i saw in Rage.
Cross that with some very believable [despite possibly being impossible) Mass Effect 2 dialogue: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=zAsNRnozwx0

It looks like a good start and will at least get more people interested in 3D, VR and high FoV gaming. My own experience has me very much agreeing with the importance of a high FoV for 3D, and in general. When i got my VG278H i was extremely disappointed at he FoV reduction from my 46" and would much rather use my 46" at 720p than the 27" at 1080p at a normal 27" viewing distance.
I think hes right about high resolution screens being available cheaply becoming at reality soon (or cheap enough). In paying attention to OLED developement, i've noticed some high rez screens in being produced. I still think its critical to have a high rez display. A 90 degree HMD that had 1080p per eye is the type of thing i'd start saving up for.
