Hi All,
I was thinking of going with new DLP PRojectos and was wondering out of the 3D Vision Certified 1024x768 resoultions which one is a good one to go with??
I am thinking maybe going with the 1280x720 but if I did that I would need a new screen so that is why I am thinking sticking with the 1024x768 as that is the screen I have currently.. The Screen is 3-45inches @ a 4:3, Ratio.. Would going 16:9 get me more realestate??
IF so then reccomend away.. but they will need to be from the list from nVidia to make sure they are 3D Certified..
I was thinking the Acer ones.. I need 3 so cost will matter would like to keep it at about $1,200 USD..

720p is the only way to go now adays in 3D gaming for projectors, 1024x768 is not possible nowadays too little games support it (especially 3d). Which leaves the acer h5360(most popular) and optoma hd66.
Though tbh not sure how many people have multiprojector set ups. Id recommend going to widescreen gamer and finding someone with setup you are going for though.
I dont think you will find either projector at below 500 though. Lamps themselves are also 100+ keep in mind(not sure how much they cost on your current set up).
This is a real shitty thing to say but its a crazy money/time/effort thing for this kind of setup. I mean 3D is still doing ok but with occulus rift comming out(which you may find more interesting) and nvidia having less and less support. Nvidia barely has a handle on 2D situation as of late so expecting a solution in the 3D department becomes a bit more iffy. I think it might be a good idea to consider this. I think you need new screens as well which means this full set up costs to just shy of 2000 excluding upkeep. If this could backup for 2D gaming I could say go for it but it may come down to playing a lot of games at 720p in 2D.

Sorry for a mild jacking of threads, but my friend was looking at dual 1080 projectors. I don't know anything really about projectors but I warned him that I think he will only get 720 with nvidia 3DTV. Is this right, and therefore would a 720 projector be the way forward, or is there a way possible to enable 1080 nvidia 3D on an external screen?
About OR, he knows about that and is probably buying a dev kit too for the giggles.

I was confused in earlier thread about that.
There is 1 projector which normal and 3 projectors like author above is planning. No other set up will work with 3d vision.
2 Projectors is passive(which is not possible with 3d vision). Unless you mean portrait which is also not possible with 3d vision. So basically need to go 1 projector or 3 with 3d vision.
1080P as far as projectors is concerned is not possible with 3D Vision/TV Play. They can only do 1080p @ 24hz which is not viable for gaming.
If he is interested in PASSIVE which is 1080p using 2 projectors, it will only work in TRIDEF/IZ3D. I cant speak from experience but I do know it is EXTREMELY difficult. You are creating one image in one eye/ the other projector the other eye. It needs to be lined up pixel perfect. I strongly dont recommend it unless either an engineer or enthusiast to put such a setup together. Likay who hangs out here sometimes has this set up and I believe he also doesnt consider it viable anymore. There is a thread by Blacksharkfr(Dont quote me) on MTBS3D detailing how to do this build.
Either needs to buy a Projector that is 3D TV Play that can do 1080p 2D | 720P 3d OR
a 3D vision 720P 3D [What I use]

Cheers ezitara, I thought as much. My friend has been out of gaming for a good 12 months (he did the stupid and got himself a life). I however have persuaded him lives are for saps, and I think I did the job a little too well as he's wanting to throw a lot of money at the best set-up. I will encourage him towards a single 1080 setup (he was looking for a dual 1080 passive yeah) but that does sound like a massive headache.
Thanks for the info.

Well, you could always do this http://3dvision-blog.com/8728-how-to-build-a-passive-3d-projection-system-more-easily/ good luck though ;)
I'll probably get this one: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2413879,00.asp Still 720p for 3d gaming, compatible with nvidia 3d tv play, but also 1080p for movie watching/console gaming and will be compatible with almost anything including next gen consoles in 3d. My experience with the H5360 720p projector is that even though it's only 720p, it looks amazing in 3d since apparently projectors soften the image and the aliasing is a lot less obvious than in a normal TV.
BTW, beware of the H5360, I have purchased two of them, first one was great but the second is dying of dead pixels (almost 20 by now).

16:9 is not only the future, it's now and been now. Upgrade your screen and you can expect it to be good for the foreseeable future.
But why do you say you need 3 projectors though? Are you doing surround with 3 projectors on 3 screens? More info please.

Cheers, interesting link. The way my friend wants to do it is with omega 3D filter. i don't know know a thing about it, he discovered it himself. Apparently then you can use any double projectors, which he is still pining for as he wants to make it a joint game and move room. i think what he wants is something like this guys set up.
http://3dvision-blog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2468
But from what I have read about 3DTV thats an ati solution only, but he really wanted to get nvidia under my instruction (based on the ati vs nvidia thread and the fact I know there is a great selection of games that work on nvidia).
I have sent him a link of projector you recommended. His pay rise was confirmed today so purchases will be made within the next few days.
Nephilism, so am I right in thinking you are want 3 projectors for side by side? Wowza. How big is your screen going to be when its done?

I need 3 because I am doing Triplescreen setup with S3D..here is a video of my current setup:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XenaueprAPc
I will have to figure out how to make a new screen but this one I use is 3 individual 45" screens put together for 3 total screens... at a 4:3 Aspect ratio. I guess going to widescreen triplescreen would be really sweet..
I am going to start figuring out what I need to do and how big a screen I need to make..
So if you guys can What are some good 720P DLP PRojectors??
Also to the guy who says he has dead pixels that is near impossible as they DLP uses mirrirs so perhaps the mirrors got dust on them or they fell out..

Well the Individula screen is 1024 x 768 the TOTAL REs would be 3072x768 which most all games still support..
I'll checkout Widescreen game. I should find the projectors for whatever price just thought I would save some money and go with the cheaper cost 1024x768 Projectors guess it is time to Upgrade the entire system PC NOT Included..
The Bulbs are currently 171Dollars hence why I want to change Projectors as most the newer one the bulbs are a bit cheaper and last twice as long then my current DLP Projectors bulbs..

I'd look into that announcment that Texas Instruments made stating they'd stand behind their DLP chips with a 5Yr warranty.
"Bullet-Proof Reliability of DLP(R) Chip Enables Texas Instruments to Support Projector Customers by Offering a 5 Year DLP Chip Warranty "

Also there are videos on youtube showing how to replace the DLP chips.

That is an awesome setup.
I looked into doing triple projectors, and I believe for that setup you are quite a bit better off to go with the three 1024x768 projectors. You gain a little extra vertical resolution. The reason widescreen of 1280x720 became popular was because people typically do not have 3, and thus are trying to get a compromise.
With 3072 horizontal, you have no real value to widescreen projectors, and widescreen will stretch it out a bit too much, according to my old calculations. You are trying to maximize your FOV, and I think your current video demonstrates that you don't really need extra horizontal.
There is also the added benefit of having 2.3M pixels instead of 2.7M pixels per frame, which can help your framerates slightly.
Lastly, the H5360 in particular has a long-throw design which would make it harder to setup. You probably want a shorter throw range for this setup.

Definitely, this was a real problem. I'm not sure it's completely solved, but there was a manufacturing defect that allowed water to get into the DLP unit. Once the mirrors get water on them, they are stuck.

Here's a great article showing several close up pics of a malfuntioning mirror due to different failures. Mirror fracture by particle impact suprised me, I thought the lightpaths are completely sealed on DLP Projectors.

Well from what I been researching over the past few hours I have decided to go with the :

Thnx for the help guys it will be more cost effective to go with the 1024x768 plus I already have the screen made up..
It's too bad that LG didn't get 3D vision certification for their PA70G. Fry's often has them on sale for $399.99. Being that it's an LED projector, the savings would soon add up due to the low power draw and no bulb to replace.
Yah, it seems that bad DLP chips were mostly older versions before they improved the design with better cushions and straps. I think they fail mostly because they overheat and warp due to lack of heatsink cleaning. But every post I've read says that once you get one, you soon get two. Then they just multiply like rabbits. Here's a link to a youtube video showing the problem.

The DMD chips are sealed after manufacturing, I came across a PDF that said
"The DMD is, of course, hermetically sealed so that
once the manufacturing process is complete, no
contaminants can enter the enclosure."

OS: Win 8 CPU: I7 4770k 3.5GZ GPU: GTX 780ti
I need 3 because I am doing Triplescreen setup with S3D..here is a video of my current setup:

Acer 1261P DLP Projector
Thnx for the help guys it will be more cost effective to go with the 1024x768 plus I already have the screen made up..

Here's a link to a youtube video showing the problem.

once the manufacturing process is complete, no
contaminants can enter the enclosure."
