Is it possible to watch 3D blurays and normal blurays without manual intervention?
Hi all, Got a bit of a conundrum. Stuck a 750Ti in my htpc to take advantage of the madvr options. Previously was using the onboard intel HD4000 gfx. Since installing the 750Ti I have been unable to watch 3D blurays without enabling stereoscopic vision. However when I do that I lose the normal 2D 1920x1080p23/24 resolutions, so any normal bluray I play (or mkv ripped at 1920x1080p23/24) triggers a resolution switch to the 3D mode, requiring me to reach for the tv remote and switch it back to 2D. Tried the latest drivers (347.52) and some older ones (344.65) but the problem still remains. I turn on stereoscopic in the control panel, I lose the 2D 1920x1080p23/24 resolutions as an option in the control panel. Is this working as designed? Rather frustrated that I "upgraded" to an nvidia card and now if I want to swap between watching 3D or 2D 1920x1080p23/24 movies I need to go into the control panel to enable/disable stereoscopic/3DTV play. With the onboard intel it just automatically switched. I'd got XBMC/Kodi setup to watch 2D movies and use the external player TMT6 for 3d iso's or bluray discs with no manual intervention required, yet so far I haven't been able to get this work with the nvidia card. Has this ever worked seamlessly?

Do you have the box checked that says "Always play movies and video files in 3D mode in the TMT6 drop down menu? In the Nvidia control panel is "Select when the display is in 3D mode:" Make sure it is not set to "always"

Make sure it is not set to "always"

Hi D-man11, thanks for the response :) I don't have that option ("Select when the display is in 3D mode:"), just the option to enable or disable and to switch between "3dtv play" and "HDMI checkerboard" display types. It's 3DTV play (not 3D vision) as I'm using a TV rather than a monitor, not sure if that makes a difference? I didn't have "Always play movies and video files in 3D mode" checked, just the use 3D for bluray 3d. I checked this and it didn't make a difference. 3D blurays will only play in 3D if "Enable stereoscopic" is ticked in the control panel. Then if thats ticked everything else in 1080p23/24 also switches to 3D as well. Cheers,

Could try the StereoDefaultON Setting in the Registry, not sure if it works with Blus like it does with games though but it's worth a shot ... with it set to zero/off you'd have to use Ctrl+T to turn on 3D when you want to use it. Either set it to Zero manually using RegEdit or Save the following as StereoDefaultOff.reg and merge with the Registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D] "StereoDefaultON"=dword:00000000
Hi TsaebehT, thanks for the advice. I changed the registry setting suggested. The result was that while the TV did continue to switch to 3D mode regardless of what was being sent, for 3D output the video outputed wasn't 3D until I pressed CTRL+T on the keyboard, so unfortunately not a solution :( I think it's just got to the point where I'm going to DSR the card as not fit for purpose and get a refund. Pity really, it's a great little card, 3dTV play is fucking terrible though which makes it useless for me in an HTPC setup which is what I bought it for. Will go back to the onboard intel Hd4000 graphics. No madvr, but at least it will work without having to cock about with settings everytime I want to change between 3D and 2D content. :(

I was under the impression that you didn't need 3DTV Play to watch 3D Blus, that the software, PowerDVD for instance, just needs to output in the TVs 3D mode for it to work.

Found a work-around. 1. Enable stereoscopic 3D. This adds the 3D resolution options of 1080p23/24 and 720p50/60 yet removes the standard 2D res's of 1080p23/24 2. Add custom resolution of 1080p/23.976. Now 3D movies play as 3D via TMT6/PowerDVD, while 2D 1080p/23.976 movies (i.e. blurays) play as 2D (via XBMC/Kodi).
