Edit: Fix released: http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2018/03/the-legend-of-heroes-trails-of-cold.html
I have been working on it these days, and that's the main reason I haven't updated the FFXII fix yet (I'll do that this week).
Hotkeys are the same as in the first game fix and working, and this time I'm fixing most stuff with regex, or at least trying. I'm in chapter 1 and don't know if the water/haloing fixes I made will be valid for the entire game, so most of the remaining work is testing, and completing the "no glasses" mod.
To use the fix in 3D, you have two options:
1- Use Special K (needed for texture mods, which I'm using) and set "ForceFullscreen=true" in the "dxgi.ini" file that will be generated after the first boot.
2- Set "full_screen=1" or "full_screen=2" in "d3dx.ini".
Both of them are valid for forcing exclusive fullscreen, which will trigger 3D.
Fixed
- Water and other haloing problems.
- Stereoized snow/mist/aura effects.
Once I've checked the whole game, I'll upload the fix to the blog. If you want to play right now, I think this fix will bahave well. If there are problems, report them here.

I have fixed more haloing issues (Fie's 50 points craft) and also updated the Cold Steel 1 fix on the blog, because this fixed an issue that I don't know why I didn't figure out before.
This also adds more glasses to the glasses toggle, in CS2 :p.

Thanks for all your work and the time you've sunk into fixing the Trails series, FF XII and the PS2 emulator. Much appreciated!
Minor spoiler alert for ToCS II coming up -->
With your WIP 3 fix, the game switched back into 2D mode at the beginning of a boss fight at Garrelia fortress and crashed after combat was over. The WIP 1 fix still worked fine, but I haven't tried WIP 2 yet.
However, this might have something to do with my outdated driver 364.72, so let me know if you encounter the same issue once you arrive at the fortress.

Do you mean that unwinnable battle where you get 3 extra AP if you get one of the two bosses below 30% health?
I just won that battle a few hours ago without any 3D problems. And no crashing. With the GOG version at 1.1 (the latest one for now). The only difference compared to the WIP 3 was that I had hunting=2 and no compiled shaders.
According to reports from people, the game has crashing problems if you wear some optional clothes or glasses. With normal costumes and no other addons, I only had one weird crash before a normal battle, but I assume it was a game issue, and not because of the 3D fix.

Yup, that one. I'm using vanilla characters without any optional stuff and oddly enough, the crash happened after the battle. The game just switched to 2D at the start of it and chugged on.

Never mind, I'm sure my outdated driver caused these issues. Gotta finish up some of the older games that still require the 364.72 driver and then finally use DDU and upgrade to the latest.

Tell me whenever you finish that battle with new drivers (no hurries). If you only tried it once before changing the fix, you probably encountered a random bug.
I'll be slowly advancing in the story in the meantime.

I'm getting a crash near the end of Act 1, after a certain boss battle. At lot more people are affected by this.
So here's a new version of the fix: [s]deleted[/s]
I found more water shaders to fix (tsk tsk, the regex didn't catch them), more people glasses to toggle, and a new hotkey:
- "6": Legram fog at proper depth. Don't use it inside shrines. Just for Legram city. I did texture filtering to not break more things, but double stereoization in shrines was unavoidable with the hotkey enabled.
Edit: got past the crash! Maybe it was random with a high chance of crashing, or maybe it was the turbo mode causing the crash before.

This might be the final fix if I don't find anything else to fix, so I'm posting it 2-4 days ahead of schedule: [s]deleted[/s]
It has more fixes for effects and more quality of life features. The background image the game takes when you pause the game or start a "frozen" conversation, or when you open the map, is no longer affected by HUD depth. That means no more extra separation, which was annoying and hard on the eyes.
The same applies to the motion blur effect in cutscenes and when running. Now it's independent from all HUD hotkeys and won't be broken in any case. As I could separate it, I made a new hotkey, "7", to toggle off motion blur and distortion effects.
Also, I made the decision to stereoize the minimap in the top right corner of the screen. Useful? Not much. It's just an extra.
I'm at the final battles of the game, before "Divertissement" and "Epilogue". It won't take too long to finish.
PS: I should go back to CS1 and the Sky games to try to apply these extra HUD fixes.

You're awesome! Had to get that out there.
Thanks so much for fixing this epic game.
***spoiler-alert*** for people who haven't beaten ToCS II:
The "Geofront" music theme during the cameo appearance of Lloyd and Rixia from Trails of Zero is god-tier and made me dwell on that part of the game for hours. Falcom's Sound Team JDK rock!
BTW, Ys: Memories of Celceta will also be coming to Steam and GOG this summer, courtesy of Xseed Games :)

I know, and I'll buy it right away when it's released :). If something's broken in 3D, I'll fix it. Or if it just needs a guide like SEVEN, I'll do the same thing. Then, Ys V will be the only one without a remake and PC port (https://www.heypoorplayer.com/2017/07/07/nihon-falcom-president-ys-v-certainly-game-want-take-one-chance-create/).
Now the wait for Cold Steel 3 and 4 will be painful.

Haha damn, you've become just as addicted to Falcom's games as I have ;D
Improving the Trails in the Sky fixes (bumped the blog post), I noticed that I had to do a general fix for their background image because each resolution generated different hashes. And so I did.
I'll have to check this in Cold Steel 2 tomorrow, because all this time I've been playing at 2560x1440. And then I'll improve the Cold Steel 1 fix too.

Small update and fix reuploaded: minimap stereoization was only working at 2560x1440, so I made it more general to stereoize it at all resolutions. If you don't like it, uncomment or delete the "[TextureOverrideMinimap]" block of text in "d3dx.ini". Minimap stereoization isn't needed at all. It doesn't offer anything of value.
