During the Black Friday sales, I picked up "It Came from Outer Space"
It a Black and White Sci-Fi movie filmed in 1953, based on a Ray Bradbury short story "The Meteor"

While the movie isn't anything spectacular, it was filmed in 3D. It has a 4:3 resolution and in too many scenes the depth is badly blurred, but overall the 3D was pretty good, borderline uncanny valley at times.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
This sequel is way overdue, Ridley Scott is once again the executive producer. Harrison Ford is in it as well. It will be in 3D at the theaters.

Edit: while not 3D, as a side note, EX Machina is a decent android movie

The original Blade Runner is one of the best Sci-fi movies ever, hopefully this one can live up to the hype :)
No idea if any of this was shot using 3D cameras or if it was converted post production, but this movie looks awesome.
Thank god that the director from John Carter wasn't in charge of this :P
The film is based on the French science fiction comics series Valérian and Laureline, written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières

According to Hi Def Digest review site Avengers: Age of Ultron looks amazing in 3D so it sounds like the conversion was a good job. I have a 3D copy I've not got round to watching yet

Converted suck ass.
Ok if converted is done great, it look pretty damn good but once you again watch one filmed in real 3D you think to yourself " why arent they filming all in true stereo".

A question about 3D conversions: when filming with a single-lens (2D) camera, with the intent to convert for 3D release, do cinematographer ever employ depth sensors? I'd imagine that kinect-style depth data might dramatically assist the conversion, especially for fine detail, close-ups on faces, etc.

For those of us in the US, it is becoming more and more difficult to find/buy 3D bluray versions of new releases. For example, none of the major outlets like Amazon, Best Buy, and Barnes and Noble are selling Thor Argnarok 3D - I had to find an international distributor on Ebay (taking up to 1 1/2 months to receive this region-free version). I also had difficulty finding Bladerunner 2048 and Justice League...

Yah, it's really annoying and is something that has been going on for years. I don't get it.
I've bought a lot of movies via AmazonUK. So far, I've had zero issues. Like Frozen, for whatever reason, was not available in 3D in the US. As well as several other Disney movies. They also will have movie bundles, something that they seldom have in the US. The US prices are always high and seem to never drop and rarely go on sale.

I have had a number of issues with movies from Amazon in the US being sold as new, when they are actually used. Varified by scratches and fingerprints. So now, I seldom buy anything from Amazon and try to buy local, screw them.

This is often talked about, and well documented, on the official BluRay 3D forums

It's really sad. There is already a strong disconnect between the movie industry, still making 3D movies at least for theater release revenues, and the TV industry abandoning 3D on newer models.
The world really did not need this as well, this insane disparity between the global disk releases.
And why US? US has everything, in more abundance, sooner, and cheaper than most of the civilised world (at least tech-wise, and definitely entertainment-wise). When I became aware of this situation about half a year ago I could not believe it. I still can't.
Those dudes on the forum are buying the movies from Amazon UK, or Japanese versions, or Indian releases from specialised dealers like "Rahul".
Earth is an insane place to live in, this century. Maybe future ones will get better :-)

Conversions are always made by chinese studio, without the original film crew help... They do it as they see it.
They cost about 10 millions of dollars, so around 7% of the total budget of a standard US movie.
About 99% 3D movies are converted, there is almost none Native 3D since 5 years, except animation one.
Even The Martian for example is not really Native, some scene are converted.
Anyway it is easy to find, just watch "Behind the scene/Making of" to spot 2D or 3D cameras.
If you are 3D enthusiast, then you can spot fake 3D through bad reflection on glass (not at the right place), tree leaves/branches (messed up), car optical light (never in 3D, too complexe)...

Not sure if Real or Fake 3D but Thor: Ragnarok is one of the best 3D films I've seen, if not the best.
I downloaded a copy which is half-OU, and it looks tremendous on an LG OLED 4k 3d TV. I also, Downloaded a copy of Avatar, and I had mixed feelings. Some scenes looked 3D while other had no depth at all.
I wonder if the actual Blue-ray would look better than the rip or is the rip of the blue ray pretty much the same? I've always wondered that. Does anyone know?

Almost no difference, you only loose quality (more blur).
In fact, you also lose more 3D lines in SbS format, but even then it is realy the same. Depth and "jaillissement" are the same.
3D lines: (with 1080 Rip)
SbS 540 (Half Res)
T&B 1080 (Half Res)
BR 1080 (Full Res)
With passive 3D you loose half the Res again.
If you want more Depth you have to see it with a bigger screen, theater is the best way, and/or strech it by going far away from the screen (works with all screen).
