****3D PICS****CHECKY IT OUT******* Used Roxio Creator 2011 and converted to 3d
1 / 2
I have been wanting to try a 3d creating program for photos. I decided to try Roxio creator pro 2011 which has the ability to convert media to 3d. Im really only interested in stills and am not planning on converting video so i wont comment on that part of the program.
The program is stupid, simple and by that i mean that Roxio has really done a good job creating an easy layout for making your 3d pics. With my pc the start to finnish process took lest than 30 second and they were ready to be viewed in 3d vision photo viewer. You can create 3d images from 2d shots (ugg, very bad, not worth the time) but by providing a left and right shot you are able to create fantastic 3d images, great detail, no ghosting. I was skeptical about the method Roxio suggested for capturing L/R images, they suggested that you take your first shot and then shuffle over a "2 inches" and take the second shot. Afterwards you are able use those L/R shots in program to create the 3d picture. Now here is the kicker, try to take two perfect shots......with no moving objects till the second shot is taken. The first trick is to use a tripod, by doing this you have cut the work/effort need in less than half. Second is focus, i found the best way is to choose your shot and let the camara auto focus then change to manual focus for the second shot, this way the camara doesnt try to refocus the second shot and cause your final product to be shuffled to the recycle bin. My first shots where just me holding a point and shoot cannon but the Left and Right shot had lighting/shadow errors, seems the cam reads the light slighty different from one shot to the next, not worth the time and really didnt fullfill my expectations. I changed to the wifys dlsr (Pentax k200D with a 18-55mm lens) along with a tripod, this proved successfull as my shots were highly detailed, excellent colors overall very crisp shots without the light/shadow issues i had with my cannon point and shoot.
So here are some pics i took and then converted. I picked my pc as the subject of this experiment and a couple shots of my gaming headset. I cant post all the shots, each is 2.5mb+ and ive got a 10mb limmit here so i picked the ones i though were the best. Remember this is only the second night using the program so be kind lol. /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Ill leave these go a few days befor i delete them and post the next batch.

Thinking back on it there really is not alot of work, you need to take the two shots quickly so conditions dont change from shot to shot. I have found (lol-after a few hours) that the shots will work of they wont. Hardest part was keeping all the shot organized. With two of everything and if your taking multi shots of the same thing they become confusing to sort out. I will work one shot at a time, deleting all copys of it befor starting the next. In total i may have taken 50 shots to get 10 good ones and of that 10, five were awsome. Best to start with static objects.
Im going to see if there is a free file storing site to upload to. I can post many more and not be limited to the 10mb cap we have here. I tried Flickr but it wont accept the file formate and thus i am unable to use for uploading /turned.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':turned:' />

I'm looking at the rear exhaust fan shot, but my mind can't comprehend that what I'm seeing was taken by a standard 2D camera, nice job! I can see that after you get the technique down, it wouldn't be too hard to get the two pics once quickly.

Post them over on 3D Vision Live and you won't have to worry so much.
Thanks for the heads up Zloth, Im registered there now. I seem to be having issues with the site/my pc at the moment, im looking into it right now. Does the site work for everybody else? I cant seem to activate the glasses or upload pics.
Anyways i stopped by a landscape nursery and took some quick shots on the way home from work. I have made several more great 3d pics but have no way to show them at the moment, i think they are much better than what i posted last night, so much more stunning. I may delete the first set (will be uploaded to 3d vision live site once i figure that whole thing out)........ya im gonna do it.
Here is a nice shot with great popout. The light in one shot was much dimmer but it still worked.

I was hoping to use 3d to really capture the sceen, i dont think this shot would have worked as well in 2d.

That last one was a biggy, almost 4mb, only enough room for one more.........

Ive tryed to pick the ones that were the easiest on the eyes. Bugs will be out soon, cant wait /shock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Thanks AcidBong, i was starting to think the pics didnt work as there were no new commments lol. Guess thats what i get for posting flower pics in a pc forum /tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> , perhaps i should stick to shots of computers. Im glad you enjoyed them, ill try to figure out the 3d vision live site and get some more posted there. Having a difficult time finding places to get these shown, one other member has offered to post them in their 3d site when its up and running so hopefully there will be many more to come. At this point im impressed with Roxio 2011, it does a really good job of converting to 3d, theres limmits to what it can do but for quicky conversions its great. There is a car show in a month or so, im going to try to make it to for a few more snaps. Ive become pretty good at shoot insects over the years and ive got a ton of black widow spiders around the house amoung alot of other creepy crawlers..........
Anyways thanks for the feedback seems im on the right track.

The distance really depends on the shot. For close ups, like the flowers, moving the camara about 2 inches is enough (the width of an average persons eyes, ive seen people who look like goldfish...not that far). In some cases even that is too much as some of my shots ended having that flat 3d look, almost 2d because the L/R shots were too close. If your taking shots a few feet away then you can increase that abit (5 inches) to get better depth, but this can cause distortion. The program is surprising forgiving i have found. I am seeing that trying to recreate depth in a photo beyond 10' will show a flat 3d look for anything beyond that point. The Fuji W1 suggests for shots of distant hills and such you will need to put a long distance between the two shots. Im not sure as to distance shots, im going to try those over the summer. Im thinking that on a long level strip of road I would try to point the cam out the car window and start the distance between shots at 100 feet..... if im trying for hills/mountains beyond 10 kms. There are several views in my area that have 50km spans with rivers and lakes, these would be the ones i started with as there is no close objects (trees/road signs) to pull your focus as a viewer. One thing i found interesting is that moving water looks messed up in "real life" shots, just like in games, exactly the same look.
quick note, there is a panasonic dslr in my town for sale. $1500, crazy right. Its all plastic and the 3d lens ($500) is only good on that camara. They (2d/3d models) are the exact same cam but the maker doesnt want you to buy the exact same 2d cam for $800 and use the 3d lens on it so they made the 3d model to accept "threaded lens" only... i dont agree with that style of business. The "eyes" on the 3d lens were just an inch or less apart and both L/R shots are captured one a single (the thingy that picks up the image in the cam-cant remember its name) where as the fuji w1 has seporate ones, each eye is captured seporately.

Works great for me. Sometimes I have to switch it between anaglyph and 3D Vision a couple of times to get it to kick in but most of the time it works right out of the gate. The website uses both Flash and Silverlight so you might need to update/enable those.

Ive now found the problems, first i needed to uncheck in the NVCP "hide stereoscopic 3d effect when game starts". I can now veiw all the pics in 3d. The uploading just started to work with no help on my part.

wow, thats awesome! Must take a bit of patience to get great stereo shots like that. I'm lookin forward to seeing some more!

I tried Flickr but it wont accept the file formate and thus i am unable to use for uploading

How far apart do the shots need to be taken?
The reason I ask is I've seen an affordable 3D camera but the lenses don't seem very far apart.
