I'm trying to run some sort of analysis of just how more or less my pc will handle 3dvision. I currently have the cheap 3dvision where it automatically turns games into the red/cyan style 3d. I've noticed that this somewhat cuts my FPS in half. Is this what I should expect?
Does red-cyan 3d cause the same stress on my pc as shutter 3d will? I know shutter 3d produced an image twice as often as non 3d, i.e. 120 FPS for a 60 FPS portrayal, but anaglyph produces two images per frame aswell, i.e 60fps x 2. So does it work out the same, or is the anaglyph composite image of both red and cyan considered one image?

It should be same stress for your PC, as for anaglyph it needs also to render 2 pictures, and than combine them.
Only difference is in how it's presented, really.
While, as said, in anaglyph mode they are overlayed one of top of each other with filters, with shutter glasses they are just displayed separately -> thus '60fps' for anaglyph = 60fps (or actual 120 frames shown) for shutter glasses.

The framerates drops I get are around 40-45% in the games I tested. So not quite in half but nearly. All stereo 3D methods need to render a frame for each eye, so the framerate drop should be similar.

The performance drop is about the same for anaglyph as it would be for shutter.

Thats amazing news. After hearing all the talk about the fps drops I was terrified I wouldnt be able to run anything, but considering i'm not a graphics nazi (I dont care if everything is set to medium, even low for some things) it looks like my 8800gt is going to handle most stuff. (I'm hooking up to an H5360, so I'm never going past 1280 x 720)
I tested out the stress on Street Fighter IV. I set the resolution to 1900x1080 ( the pj will downconvert or whatever). Without nvidia 3dvision, locked at 60fps. With nvidia 3dvision (anaglyph), around 32-35 fps. THEN i switched to 1280x720. Without 3dvision-locked at 60fps, with 3dvision, also locked at 60fps.
The bottom line. Shweeet. Also for people wanting to figure out how big of a hit your FPS will take before buying 3dvision, this is an easy and free way to test your system.

Another question. Ive played a few games with this anaglyph 3d before. Red-cyan. I'm wondering. Is the 3d effect better with shutter glasses? Does it pop out more, or feel more authenic, or is it just the same thing without weird colors?

Night and day mate, the quality is much better with shutter glasses, you will find yourself going slowly through games just admiring the view.
Really makes you appreciate the art in games, and also made me realise how nice the source engine is(Half life 2, left 4 dead), i really never thought the graphics were impresive until i seen it running in 3d.
:)
