If you read my older posts you will find I had a similar experiment, the strange thing was that my Dell LCD (non 3D ready) was detected as 'DLP/CRT/discover' when it was the primary display, however when I switched the primary to the DLP, it's back to 'discover' only mode. It didn't work.

Thanks for all the posts about the problem with recognition of Samsung DLPs. After reading everything and downloading 3D VISION CD 1.19 and driver 195.81, I was FINALLY able to get my Samsung HL61A750 DLP functioning in 3D this afternoon....after way too many hours, downloads, aborted attempts, and dead ends. The key was having a second non-stereo capable monitor available to serve as the primary monitor until after setup. Thanks to Distant for that key element.
I'm using: Samsung HL61A750; HP computer with Core2Quad Q8300 processor, Windows 7 64bit, 8GB DDR3 RAM; EVGA super clocked GT240 with 512MB DDR5 (has HDMI, DVI, and VGA video ports); connection of computer to Samsung DLP via DVI to HDMI3 port using cable provided with 3D Vision kit; sound attached directly to Sony theatre amp; and the essential old Dell flat screen (1800FP but anything should work) attached to GT240 with VGA cable (so I can use DVI out for Samsung until affordable 15' HDMI cable arrives).
Here are ALL the steps to success:
1.Hook up both monitors before starting. Using Nvidia control panel, set up VGA monitor as primary (DISPLAY:SET UP MULTIPLE MONITORS). Set up DLP as 1920X1080. On DLP, set up HDMI3 port using remote (SOURCE: HDMI3; MENU:MODE=Standard: PICTURE OPTIONS: SIZE=Wide PC. Leave 3D option off for now. Turn it on when necessary using the TOOLS button on your Samsung remote.
2.Use Andrew's links to get CD 1.19 and drivers. Delete old GeForce and 3D Vision Drivers using Control Panel:Programs:Uninstall. Install CD1.19 drivers: Run Launch.exe. Install GeForce Graphics drivers. Reboot. Install 3D Vision Software. Check box to RUN WIZARD. FINISH.
3. FOOL THE WIZARD!!!
A. Screen 1 - choose 3D Vision. NEXT
B. Screen 2 - connect emitter. NEXT
C. Screen 3 - choose your gaming environment. NEXT
D. Screen 4 - here's the miracle: you should get 3 choices. Choose GENERIC DLP DISPLAY. NEXT
E. Screen 5 - switch your Samsung DLP to 3D. On Samsung remote, hit TOOLS: 3D EFFECT: Mode 1: EXIT.
In WIZARD - NEXT
F. Screen 6 - turn on glasses. NEXT.
G. Screen 7 - the symbols test will show up on your primary (non-stereo) monitor. Choose the combined arrow and circle for both eyes. That's what you're seeing anyway. NEXT
H. Screen 8 - it says hardware test failed. Don't worry. Choose EXIT and SET UP LATER.
I. Screen 9 - message says "GeForce 3D Vision Setup Not Completed". Choose EXIT.
This takes you back to the Nvidia Control Panel.
I. Control Panel - choose DISPLAY: Set Up Multiple Displays. Right click on Samsung and set as primary display. APPLY at bottom of screen. Keep changes.
J. Control Panel - choose STEREOSCOPIC 3D: Set Up Stereoscopic 3D. The screen will show your display type as "3D Vision Discover". This message is wrong -- you're really in Generic DLP Display. Click LAUNCH TEST APPLICATION. DO NOT RUN THE STINKING WIZARD NOW OR YOU'RE SOL and have to start over with step 3A. Click LAUNCH TEST APPLICATION - while wearing your glasses that are turned on. The emitter will glow bright green and you'll see the test screen in full 3D on the Samsung DLP. Watch it for a while because it took you forever to get here and make it work. Hit ESC to exit. Play it again. This really works. When you're convinced, ESC and CLOSE.
K. If you want more 3D depth and don't want to get up and spin the wheel on the emitter, test the setting now because you NEVER want to use Set Up Stereoscopic 3D again unless something gets really screwed up. Move the slider to 50 - hit APPLY - go through the test application again. Whatever works for you. SEND THE WIZARD TO THE DUNGEON AND THROW AWAY THE KEY.
L. At this point, you can disconnect the non-stereo monitor if you want.
4. Exit the Control Panel. Run the demos. The downloads for Medusa and the Nurburgring 24 hour race do a good job of showing off the 3D capabilities. The Avatar demo has excellent 3D graphics.
The setup should be much easier than this. Nvidia staff -- please fix. I did the setup for my ViewSonic 22" VX2265wm in about 3 minutes using CD 1.17. I'll test any fix for the Samsung if you need someone who does high tech QC.
Here's my reason for wanting to get this system working, besides for the visual enjoyment of using it. I am a Project Manager for a company that extracts 3D GIS data from multi-band high resolution imagery using stereo displays, primarily for government agencies of all types. The old and expensive CRT systems, $4K graphics boards, and Z-screens currently being used are at the end of their service lives. You'll sell a lot more glasses and graphics boards if you can get upper managers hooked on your 3D solution. I took my ViewSonic setup to work last Thursday. Just the demos blew my local VP supervisor away and he is ready to spring for a home system and also make the hard push to upgrade our equipment at the office IF you can get the major GIS software vendors to create drivers to support your GeForce & 3D Vision products for 3D mapping. Offices can equip a worker with the hardware system I have at home for less than $1000 (without the DLP) when taking volume discounts into account. The existing work hardware cost about $10K 5 years ago and $50K 10 years ago. Companies can move to total 3D data collection but NOT if the software vendors (ESRI and ERDAS, to name 2 prominent ones) support something other than high dollar equipment or outdated technology.
The bottom line is that Nvidia needs to really test the software it puts out and work with professionals to expand the reach of 3D to the workplace. Right now, it seems like gamers are pushing the technology forward, not that there's anything wrong with that. I bought my Samsung 3D ready DLP last Christmas with the expectation that less expensive stereo graphics were close to maturity. I was right and the system I purchased over the last month cost $1150: GT240 graphics board, $100; glasses, $200; black Friday HP computer $600; ViewSonic 3D monitor, $250. However, there was a time over the last 2 days that I was ready to throw it all in the return bin. Thanks to the collective knowledge found in the forum, I was able to get my system working and am sharing the steps with those who don't have the time to struggle for a week.
One other question. I'm ready to load the full PC Avatar game and want to buy a controller as the keyboard commands for maneuvering are just so archaic. Any recommendations for the under $100 and under $50 range? THX!!

Brilliant. Thank you for the result writeup with very detailed procedure description. It works for me, at least the "Test stereoscopic 3D" is working, even though the "stereoscopic 3D display type:" always displays "3D Vision Discover". Will try some games tomorrow night.

I have another non-3D monitor in my setup too (since my 3D one is a CRT, which looks kinda crappy...), and I can change my primary monitor to it no worries, and Generic CRT is still selected. I can run 3D apps with this non-3D monitor, just the glasses don't activate since its only 60Hz, or I can trick the monitor into showing 61Hz (very blurry), which allows the glasses to activate, but 3D looks no good since the monitor can't really provide 61Hz...
Im surprised this doesnt work with a DLP, but I guess the VESA cable etc makes it all different...

I don't have time to try it now, but I guess I got stuck on it saying "3D Vision Discover" after I fooled it with the dual monitor setup. I accidentally chose the backwards choices on the screen where you have to pick the symbols during the test (since I had to do that part on the non-3D monitor). If I had chosen those right, this might have worked for me.

I accidentally chose the backwards choices on the screen where you have to pick the symbols during the test (since I had to do that part on the non-3D monitor). Thanks for all the posts about the problem with recognition of Samsung DLPs. After reading everything and downloading 3D VISION CD 1.19 and driver 195.81, I was FINALLY able to get my Samsung HL61A750 DLP functioning in 3D this afternoon....after way too many hours, downloads, aborted attempts, and dead ends. The key was having a second non-stereo capable monitor available to serve as the primary monitor until after setup. Thanks to Distant for that key element.
I'm using: Samsung HL61A750; HP computer with Core2Quad Q8300 processor, Windows 7 64bit, 8GB DDR3 RAM; EVGA super clocked GT240 with 512MB DDR5 (has HDMI, DVI, and VGA video ports); connection of computer to Samsung DLP via DVI to HDMI3 port using cable provided with 3D Vision kit; sound attached directly to Sony theatre amp; and the essential old Dell flat screen (1800FP but anything should work) attached to GT240 with VGA cable (so I can use DVI out for Samsung until affordable 15' HDMI cable arrives).
Here are ALL the steps to success:
1.Hook up both monitors before starting. Using Nvidia control panel, set up VGA monitor as primary (DISPLAY:SET UP MULTIPLE MONITORS). Set up DLP as 1920X1080. On DLP, set up HDMI3 port using remote (SOURCE: HDMI3; MENU:MODE=Standard: PICTURE OPTIONS: SIZE=Wide PC. Leave 3D option off for now. Turn it on when necessary using the TOOLS button on your Samsung remote.
2.Use Andrew's links to get CD 1.19 and drivers. Delete old GeForce and 3D Vision Drivers using Control Panel:Programs:Uninstall. Install CD1.19 drivers: Run Launch.exe. Install GeForce Graphics drivers. Reboot. Install 3D Vision Software. Check box to RUN WIZARD. FINISH.
3. FOOL THE WIZARD!!!
A. Screen 1 - choose 3D Vision. NEXT
B. Screen 2 - connect emitter. NEXT
C. Screen 3 - choose your gaming environment. NEXT
D. Screen 4 - here's the miracle: you should get 3 choices. Choose GENERIC DLP DISPLAY. NEXT
E. Screen 5 - switch your Samsung DLP to 3D. On Samsung remote, hit TOOLS: 3D EFFECT: Mode 1: EXIT.
In WIZARD - NEXT
F. Screen 6 - turn on glasses. NEXT.
G. Screen 7 - the symbols test will show up on your primary (non-stereo) monitor. Choose the combined arrow and circle for both eyes. That's what you're seeing anyway. NEXT
H. Screen 8 - it says hardware test failed. Don't worry. Choose EXIT and SET UP LATER.
I. Screen 9 - message says "GeForce 3D Vision Setup Not Completed". Choose EXIT.
This takes you back to the Nvidia Control Panel.
I. Control Panel - choose DISPLAY: Set Up Multiple Displays. Right click on Samsung and set as primary display. APPLY at bottom of screen. Keep changes.
J. Control Panel - choose STEREOSCOPIC 3D: Set Up Stereoscopic 3D. The screen will show your display type as "3D Vision Discover". This message is wrong -- you're really in Generic DLP Display. Click LAUNCH TEST APPLICATION. DO NOT RUN THE STINKING WIZARD NOW OR YOU'RE SOL and have to start over with step 3A. Click LAUNCH TEST APPLICATION - while wearing your glasses that are turned on. The emitter will glow bright green and you'll see the test screen in full 3D on the Samsung DLP. Watch it for a while because it took you forever to get here and make it work. Hit ESC to exit. Play it again. This really works. When you're convinced, ESC and CLOSE.
K. If you want more 3D depth and don't want to get up and spin the wheel on the emitter, test the setting now because you NEVER want to use Set Up Stereoscopic 3D again unless something gets really screwed up. Move the slider to 50 - hit APPLY - go through the test application again. Whatever works for you. SEND THE WIZARD TO THE DUNGEON AND THROW AWAY THE KEY.
L. At this point, you can disconnect the non-stereo monitor if you want.
4. Exit the Control Panel. Run the demos. The downloads for Medusa and the Nurburgring 24 hour race do a good job of showing off the 3D capabilities. The Avatar demo has excellent 3D graphics.
The setup should be much easier than this. Nvidia staff -- please fix. I did the setup for my ViewSonic 22" VX2265wm in about 3 minutes using CD 1.17. I'll test any fix for the Samsung if you need someone who does high tech QC.
Here's my reason for wanting to get this system working, besides for the visual enjoyment of using it. I am a Project Manager for a company that extracts 3D GIS data from multi-band high resolution imagery using stereo displays, primarily for government agencies of all types. The old and expensive CRT systems, $4K graphics boards, and Z-screens currently being used are at the end of their service lives. You'll sell a lot more glasses and graphics boards if you can get upper managers hooked on your 3D solution. I took my ViewSonic setup to work last Thursday. Just the demos blew my local VP supervisor away and he is ready to spring for a home system and also make the hard push to upgrade our equipment at the office IF you can get the major GIS software vendors to create drivers to support your GeForce & 3D Vision products for 3D mapping. Offices can equip a worker with the hardware system I have at home for less than $1000 (without the DLP) when taking volume discounts into account. The existing work hardware cost about $10K 5 years ago and $50K 10 years ago. Companies can move to total 3D data collection but NOT if the software vendors (ESRI and ERDAS, to name 2 prominent ones) support something other than high dollar equipment or outdated technology.
The bottom line is that Nvidia needs to really test the software it puts out and work with professionals to expand the reach of 3D to the workplace. Right now, it seems like gamers are pushing the technology forward, not that there's anything wrong with that. I bought my Samsung 3D ready DLP last Christmas with the expectation that less expensive stereo graphics were close to maturity. I was right and the system I purchased over the last month cost $1150: GT240 graphics board, $100; glasses, $200; black Friday HP computer $600; ViewSonic 3D monitor, $250. However, there was a time over the last 2 days that I was ready to throw it all in the return bin. Thanks to the collective knowledge found in the forum, I was able to get my system working and am sharing the steps with those who don't have the time to struggle for a week.
One other question. I'm ready to load the full PC Avatar game and want to buy a controller as the keyboard commands for maneuvering are just so archaic. Any recommendations for the under $100 and under $50 range? THX!!

I got clues/pieces from everyone on the forum but people were still having problems making CD 1.19 work with the Samsung DLP (see Distant and others as late as yesterday afternoon) so your work around must have been missing something that others couldn't duplicate. This one works if you follow all the steps.

Unfortunatly, BlWhales's solution did not work for me. I followed the steps, used my old Samsung 955 crt monitor but could not trick the drivers into working. Bah Humbug. Samsung DLP users get coal for Christmas. With holidays and CES probably nothing now until mid-January at least, after which I will have given up checking these boards for updates and these posts with everything Nvidia needs to fix the problems will be buried.

Well I'm sorry to say that it does not work !! I followed the instructions to the letter...twice... and it hangs up on installing the 3d bits and just sits there.. I went back to 1.13, got all working and tried again...same thing...so it may work for some, but not for all. I shall now wait for it to come out of beta.

The setup should be much easier than this. Nvidia staff -- please fix. I did the setup for my ViewSonic 22" VX2265wm in about 3 minutes using CD 1.17. I'll test any fix for the Samsung if you need someone who does high tech QC.

You'll sell a lot more glasses and graphics boards if you can get upper managers hooked on your 3D solution. I took my ViewSonic setup to work last Thursday. Just the demos blew my local VP supervisor away and he is ready to spring for a home system and also make the hard push to upgrade our equipment at the office IF you can get the major GIS software vendors to create drivers to support your GeForce & 3D Vision products for 3D mapping. Offices can equip a worker with the hardware system I have at home for less than $1000 (without the DLP) when taking volume discounts into account. The existing work hardware cost about $10K 5 years ago and $50K 10 years ago. Companies can move to total 3D data collection but NOT if the software vendors (ESRI and ERDAS, to name 2 prominent ones) support something other than high dollar equipment or outdated technology.
The bottom line is that Nvidia needs to really test the software it puts out and work with professionals to expand the reach of 3D to the workplace. Right now, it seems like gamers are pushing the technology forward, not that there's anything wrong with that. I bought my Samsung 3D ready DLP last Christmas with the expectation that less expensive stereo graphics were close to maturity. I was right and the system I purchased over the last month cost $1150: GT240 graphics board, $100; glasses, $200; black Friday HP computer $600; ViewSonic 3D monitor, $250. However, there was a time over the last 2 days that I was ready to throw it all in the return bin. Thanks to the collective knowledge found in the forum, I was able to get my system working and am sharing the steps with those who don't have the time to struggle for a week.
One other question. I'm ready to load the full PC Avatar game and want to buy a controller as the keyboard commands for maneuvering are just so archaic. Any recommendations for the under $100 and under $50 range? THX!!

I have another non-3D monitor in my setup too (since my 3D one is a CRT, which looks kinda crappy...), and I can change my primary monitor to it no worries, and Generic CRT is still selected. I can run 3D apps with this non-3D monitor, just the glasses don't activate since its only 60Hz, or I can trick the monitor into showing 61Hz (very blurry), which allows the glasses to activate, but 3D looks no good since the monitor can't really provide 61Hz...

I accidentally chose the backwards choices on the screen where you have to pick the symbols during the test (since I had to do that part on the non-3D monitor). If I had chosen those right, this might have worked for me.
Obviously only temporary anyway.

Turn it on when necessary using the TOOLS button on your Samsung remote.
2.Use Andrew's links to get CD 1.19 and drivers. Delete old GeForce and 3D Vision Drivers using Control Panel:Programs:Uninstall. Install CD1.19 drivers: Run Launch.exe. Install GeForce Graphics drivers. Reboot. Install 3D Vision Software. Check box to RUN WIZARD. FINISH.
3. FOOL THE WIZARD!!!
A. Screen 1 - choose 3D Vision. NEXT
B. Screen 2 - connect emitter. NEXT
C. Screen 3 - choose your gaming environment. NEXT
D. Screen 4 - here's the miracle: you should get 3 choices. Choose GENERIC DLP DISPLAY. NEXT
E. Screen 5 - switch your Samsung DLP to 3D. On Samsung remote, hit TOOLS: 3D EFFECT: Mode 1: EXIT.
In WIZARD - NEXT
F. Screen 6 - turn on glasses. NEXT.
G. Screen 7 - the symbols test will show up on your primary (non-stereo) monitor. Choose the combined arrow and circle for both eyes. That's what you're seeing anyway. NEXT
H. Screen 8 - it says hardware test failed. Don't worry. Choose EXIT and SET UP LATER.
I. Screen 9 - message says "GeForce 3D Vision Setup Not Completed". Choose EXIT.
This takes you back to the Nvidia Control Panel.

If you want more 3D depth and don't want to get up and spin the wheel on the emitter, test the setting now because you NEVER want to use Set Up Stereoscopic 3D again unless something gets really screwed up. Move the slider to 50 - hit APPLY - go through the test application again. Whatever works for you. SEND THE WIZARD TO THE DUNGEON AND THROW AWAY THE KEY.

I got clues/pieces from everyone on the forum but people were still having problems making CD 1.19 work with the Samsung DLP (see Distant and others as late as yesterday afternoon) so your work around must have been missing something that others couldn't duplicate. This will bring up an interface with multiple monitors #1 & #2 you can drag the picture of the monitors back and forth so they overtake the Primary/Secondary display's. Then you swap them back and forth with one mouse click.
As I stated weeks ago that June/July bug fix for multiple monitors actually caused this issue. This is why you use multiple monitors and what not to trick the drivers...
Nvidia how about a log collector for the setup wizard? I sure everyone here would not mind sending in a log files..
