A few quick questions for programmers
Hi guys, just a few quick ones for the pros here. 1. How would you describe the ease of the task of building in a basic 3D view-port mode by Sony for the PSVR like Nvida has with 3D Vision/Play? Trivial? Pretty easy? A lot of work? I assume it wouldn't require new hardware, "just" rendering the 2nd eye view along with some adjustment properties like depth/convergence along with mult-language support, test program, etc. Sounds "easy" to me for company like Sony (not for me obviously lol). 2. How difficult is the task of fixing existing game issues when you are the owner of the source code? They can fix it, but i remember Alan Wake devs taking some time with it, can't really remember what happened exactly. 3. Can Helix mod shader fixes be used on console games? Like would it be helpful to alert devs of the Helix mod list in any way? 4. Any theories on why the PS4 didn't come with a basic 3D gaming mode? Not even the video player for youtube can play 3D videos. It doesn't even play *Sony* Blue-rays in 2D! Someone theorized that Sony may be fearful of people using it for porn, creating a ton of "So what porn sites are you guys using tonight?" posts and that Sony may enable 3D mode after Christmas because of that. Just looking for a best guess here btw. Does anyone else find it sad that Sony didn't offer a standard 3D mode? Its an unscaled image, half 1080p and as big as an Imax theater after all... They could play all standard games at a reduced graphic quality, just like many of us do.

No guesses? Does ANYONE find it strange and a massive missed opportunity that the PSVR doesn't have a basic 3D mode?

Here is my quick answer;) Sorry didn't notice the thread earlier. 1. It could be pretty easy or it can get pretty complicated. Depends on the approach and what performance and optimizations you target:) Easy to get "something" working In stereo 3D, long and way harder to get the best performance out of it. 2. Having access to the shaders and source code is pretty easy to fix 3D Related problems, if you know what you need to do. 3. No. HelixMod relies on 3D Vision Automatic to do a big part of the Stereo 3D rendering. If you are asking if we can use HelixMod to change shaders then yes:) We can. But HelixMod without the Nvidia 3D Vision driver would be pretty much worthless in terms of 3D. 4. Don't know what to say here. Sorry.

Thanks for that input! I thought with many games being simply PC ports and also that turning on/off graphical options on the PC usually being as easy as editing a text file from: fxaa on = 1 to fxaa on = 0 and also there usually being multiple options to vary the quality of an effect or turn it off completely, i assumed that it would be pretty "easy" *for an engine programmer* to go into the code and modify settings like on the pc until a happy compromise was reached. Not surprised im wrong, but still disappointed they don't have it yet. Nobody seems to want it either, but like VR, i think its a "have to see to get it" thing. Crossing fingers.

Yeah, i twice read a book called something like "C++ for game programming", I remember functions and that kind of basic stuff, but i feel i only learned enough to know how annoying i sound to real programmers...

You never know where you will get stuck and estimating time of complex tasks is usually hard when dealing with programming. I was planning to migrate to DX12 as well but as long as 3D Vision is not supported there is no point.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.
To have a critical piece of code that everyone can enjoy!
What more can you ask for?
