No 27 inch thin bezel 1080p monitor for 3D Vision Surround available?
  1 / 2
I am just wondering if there is any 27" thin bezel 3D Vision monitor available that could be used for 3D Vision Surround. While there are indeed some thin bezel 1440p monitors available (Asus PG278Q, Asus PG278QR, Dell S2716DG, Acer Predator XB271HUA......) I don't know about any 27" 1080p 3D Vision monitor that has thin bezels. I just sold an PG278QR monitor and after doing some research I came to realize that I could get me a complete 3x27" 1080p 3D Vision Surround setup (when buying used) using just the money I got for my PG278QR. So while I am still perfectly fine with my LG 65" 4K OLED for 3D Vision (I sold my Surround setup in 2016 when I bought the 65" LG 4K OLED)I am still missing the "you get to see more in Surround"-feeling that 3D Vision Surround has to offer (looking at helifax ;-) ). Now that I got some spare money from selling the Asus PG278QR I definitely want to add Surround...again. In 2016 I was absolutely satisfied with my 3x Acer XB270Hb and I could get three of them used now for under 600 EUR but I want to be sure there are no other options with thinner bezels. Don't get me wrong. The Acer XB270Hb doesn't have particulary wide bezels but they aren't thin either. So if there is no other option I am perfectly fine with the XB270Hb but if there is please let me know! The price doesn't play a role here. I just want to know if there is any thin bezel 27" 1080p 3D Viison monitor.

I can't answer your question directly, but what you can do is get the list of all 3D Vision Ready 27" monitors at https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1009715/list-of-3d-vision-ready-hardware/ and just google them to see the size of bezels.

Awesome list John! Thanks alot! Now I have a problem! When looking at the list I found the perfect monitor for 3D Vision Surround. The Acer XB272 is not only one of the latest released 3D Vision certified monitors it also has nearly ZERO bezels. Absolutely no need for going ghetto-style with the side-monitors slightly placed behind the center monitor to avoid double-bezels. With the Acer you can just put them side-by-side as it has virtually no bezels! Now here's the problem: This beast considering it's only 1080p is expensive beyond reckoning (I guess due to the 240Hz)! And I need 3 of them..........

You didn't think of purchase of three projectors? 0 bezel and big screen!

That's a godd question especially because those 1440p monitors not only cost the same as the 240Hz-1080p-monitor they also have very slim bezels. But the answer to this question is quite simple: I don't have the hardware to get a triple setup of 1440p monitors to run in 3D Vision Surround. Since I am very forgiving when it comes to fps-performance I am still able to play on my 4K OLED in 3D Vision using only a single Titan X (Pascal). A triple 1440p-setup is way more demanding than single-screen 4K and thus I wouldn't be able to run it. I already hated SLI and its numerous problems when SLI-support was still there. But since SLI-support gets worse by the day I have no intent to go SLI. So I am always looking for the single GPU cream of the crop. But even with the newer Titan Xp 1440p-3D Vision Surround- would be way out of reach. Buying three 1440p-monitors and set them to 1080p until the next beastly-single-GPU comes out which maybe can run three 1440p-monitors in 3DV-Surround is also no option cause a monitor that is set to its non-native resolution always looks like crap. So in this scenario you just have to go for the evenly priced 1080p monitor although you could get a quality-wise equal 1440p monitor for nearly exactly the same money! The only option left would be to get three of the older models cheap (like my Acer XB270H) and debezel them yourself (or alternatively just live with the bezels) .

is there any "must have" feature on those new shiny 1440P monitor that you will miss out on when playing 3D and 3D surround? I would imagine the 3 yr old, 1080P monitor wouldn't stand a chance against the new 1440P from Acer and Asus

Aside from the notably higher resolution on the 1440p monitors there is no "must have"-feature you'll miss out on when using a 1080p monitor. Of course the older ones don't have G-Sync but since G-Sync is deactivated anyway when in 3D mode that feature doesn't really matter here.

Some ppl mentioned that the Asus PG278QR offers the best ghosting-reduction (being the most recent addition to the 3D monitor line). Do you feel that the older 1080P version would grant you similar ghosting-reduction? P.s. can your LG 65" 4K OLED be used as a monitor? Do you experience any reduction in image-quality or sharpness when gaming at 1080P on that 4K TV?

Too late Enermax ;-) I already have 3 of those XB272 set up in Surround and couldn't be happier! To make this clear: This monitor is officially 3D Vision certified and has the 3D Vision certification all over it (bottom bezel and the shipping box). Honestly there is no company as misleading with the information about their products as Acer. Not only do they have absolutely weird and unneccessarily lengthy product names that often just differ in one letter so it's really hard to differ between seemingly identical products. Now it seems they even give false informations on their website. Beside the questionable info-politics of Acer I love their monitors and never had a problem with an Acer monitor. Even those 3 XB272 I got are all perfect (not a single dead pixel). Concerning ghosting the monitor is also nearly perfect (focused looking at objects in the front against the bright blue sky in the background will always show some ghosting). But just as my Acer GN246HL before those XB272 are nearly ghosting free! I can't say the same for every 1440p monitor that I tried so far. The Dell S2716DG was ruled out for me first because of he reported pixel inversion issue as well as massive ghosting. The Asus PG278QR was praised for being ghosting-free. I can't confirm that. I rather experienced quite the opposite. I even tried 2 of them just to confirm I didn't have a faulty unit and the second one I tried was exactly the same ghosting-wise. It had way more ghosting than my old Acer GN246HL and the new XB272. I also tried the Acer XB271HU 1440p monitor (TN panel) and ghosting-wise this one was identical with the Asus PG278QR. Don't get me wrong. Those 1440p monitors are absolutely great but none of them can really be praised as ghosting-free. My experience with all of them was that they definitely showed more ghosting than both Full-HD Acer monitors I named above. But even with those 1440p monitors you'll only notice ghosting in "high-stress" scenes like a very prominent bright sky in the background. Since I was - and still am - playing Just Cause 3 when I tested those 1440p monitors I definitely tested them in a "high stress"-scenario as Just Cause 3 is a game were you always have the bright blue sky in the background. P.S: Thanks alot for your post, Enermax. Because of that post I had to visit the Amazon page again and found out the monitor is now 80 EUR cheaper than before (80 x 3 = 240 EUR). I will have to phone Amazon now and ask them for a refund (since I still could send them back and order them again for the much cheaper price)......

great to hear that you got price drop submitted. I am eyeing the LG 65" 4K OLED (2016) at the moment and some ppl discouraged of using this TV as a gaming monitor due to the massive burn-in and image retention. How do you deal with this issue?

Glad that you found monitors you like :). The PG278QR isn't perfect in bright scenes, but in my experience it's still better than the BenQ XL2411Z and 100 times better than the Dell S2716DG. Maybe the BenQ wasn't that good compared to other 1080p monitors, and that lowered my expectations. I'd love to have a monitor with absolute 0 ghosting and no pixel inversion problems (checkerboard, scanlines, etc). Maybe VR when bo3b finishes his new tool, because left and right images are 100% independent.

I have to agree!

My Acer GN24L had damn near little to no ghosting compared to my PG278QR.
