Did 260.99 remove support for Generic DLP?
I don't understand what happened in 3D Vision v. 260.99. I installed it and during the 3D setup it told me to use the glasses that came with my TV? It didn't say that before. Previously it went through the setup using Generic DLP and the USB adapter and nVidia's glasses and everything worked fine.
Now none of that happens. It goes through the setup, asks me to click on some pictures with the (Mitsubishi) glasses on and then exits saying I should upgrade to 3DTV Play? It never mentions the USB adapter or what type of tv I have at all. And the Control Panel options for 3D laser site and KeyBoard Shortcuts are greyed out. Also, I paid for the 3D Vision product, shouldn't I get 3DTV Play for free? It's not a seperate download as far as I know.
Shouldnt it be either like it was before, with 3D Vision, or working with 3DTV Play? I seem to be stuck somewhere in the middle.

GeForce 460
Mitsubishi WD-73838 DLP with new 12.06 firmware - maybe the firmware update has something to do with this?
The new firmware bring this model up to full HDMI 1.4a requirements, and then some, so I don't know why it isn't working.

Anyone have any ideas?

If the 260.99 driver detects an HDMI 1.4 device, it does no longer offer the "classic" 3D vision modes but only the two mandatory HDMI 1.4 3D modes 720p and 1024p. Even worser, if your TV isn't in the EDID dabase of the driver, none gaming mode is offered but only 3D bluray playback. I guess that's what happened to you, since the Mitsubishi is now HDMI 1.4 compliant after the firmware update but not in the EDID database.

So you've cut yourself off from 3D gaming. Welcome in the new 3D age.

Btw, I solved the problem with a Gefen DVI detective, that I programmed with the EDID info from my older HDMI 1.3 HDTV. So I got back checkerboard and page flipping support, which both is supperior to the 2 modes offered by 3DTV Play in my eyes.

If you have a HDMI 1.3 AV receiver which you can plug between PC and HDTV, this may also solve the problem. Or maybe you can downgrade your HDTVs firmware?

I still have the hope that nVidia is aware of the problems and that this is the reason for the delay of the official 3DTV Play software. After all it's still beta.

Thank you for the information Nobsi!

It's crappy news but it's ok. nVidia took 3D gaming away from me (and millions of other loyal customers) once before, so this is nothing new. What I can't figure out is why remove support for checkerboard when a) they already went through the trouble of adding it to 3D Vision and b) it's the best format for GAMING! Hello, nVidia, remember gaming? The thing that most people buy your products for? I had no trouble watching 3D movies before buying 3D Vision. I bought it for gaming!
It's also odd how they fully support older Mitsubishi DLP set but not the newest ones. I can't pretend to understand that unless they actually haven't gotten around to it yet.

Anyway, I'm working on a solution (hopefully) involving a custom EDID override INF file for Windows that will tell the drivers that my TV is on the supported list, offer the required screen formats, and add the proper audio support to Windows as Windows sees this TV as a stereo only device and the set is capable of receiving, and playing Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

By the way, anyone reading this that has a WD-xx838 and hasn't gotten the firmware update, please grab your EDID info and save it as an INF file using this cool utility from Entech Monitor Asset Manager... and let me know. I might be able to use it in my fix and you are going to need a fix if nVidia doesn't come through for us. I'd also welcome any help anyone can give. It's a little over my head but I'm learning. /book.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':book:' />

I tried already the EDID override trick, but it didn't work for me. It looks that the nVidia driver still uses the EDID info directly from the connected display. That is why I used the DVI detective device.
If you have more luck, I would be glad to get some feedback as the DVI detective is expensive and not really an option for most.

@Nobsi:

I stayed up late last night and cranked out my first attempt at an EDID override and it worked!
Well kinda. nVidia sees it as a Generic DLP once again and wants me to hook up the emitter cable jumper thingy to their own emitter - 3D Vision! So I've moved ahead back to where I was before. /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
The problem is I have no sound. I did mess around alot with adding sound formats. I haven't had any time to tweak and troubleshoot but heck, at this point the worse I can achieve is the 3D Vision back and working and the sound just as it was before, and I would be happy with that. I will try to wrestle the 5.1 sound out of it soon and post my results.

By the way, what model TV do you have?

Can you give some more info (maybe post your modified EDID info file) once it is running fine?

Sorry I didnt reply earlier. I have a life sucking job.
Anyway, sure I'll post it. It might take me a week to get it working correctly though.

Please please please tell me how you got this working. I have the 65738 Mitsubishi and once it updated to 12.06 nvidia 3d vision was no longer supported. I do not need sound as I am running that out separate already. I contacted Mitsubishi and they said once the firmware is flashed there is no way to go back so downgrading to 12.05 is not an option. Nvidia also released new beta drivers today with the new mitsubishi's listed on them but my guess is they tested them on the old firmware cause the beta release still does not support 3d vision, just 3dtv play. I spent 3 hours chatting with support from Nvidia and they where of no help. So if you have figured out a work around you would be my savior. The wife was pissed enough that I spent 300 dollars on 2 pairs of glasses and an IR deal and then they did not even work.
