Greetings all, my main purpose is to find out what is bottlenecking my fps.
Game in question is Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag, and I have an 42" passive 3D TV, with edid to an acer monitor, which means I get the 3Dvision and I get to play 1080p in 60Hz
But as I increase the depth in-game, the game gets more laggy.
My specs are :
AMD FX-8120 Black box edition, overclocked to 4.2 GHZ stable
MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II 2GD5
10 gigs of ram
So what is my bottle neck here, the cpu or the graphics card?
Any help appreciated, and what would you suggest I upgrade and into what?
peace out all )

The Assassin's Creeds are difficult. AC3 was horribly optimised, and while AC4 is apparently better (I've not tested extensively), I can imagine it would likely still suffer from the same problems to some extent.
An educated guess says your graphics card could be the issue, and a 770 or higher would be a reasonable investment. It should improve things in most games, but AC3 / AC4 are hard to nail down - so I can make no promises.

People have been complaining that "depth buffer / fake 3d" have been using abnormal amounts of fps.
Start/download fraps.
start game at 1080p.
look at framerate.
start game at 720p
look at framerate.
If its the same its processor most likely.
AC3 was allegedly CPU bound, but after a significant overclock I still saw no performance gains. That's one of the reasons it's hard to make a definitive statement on it.

Both are CPU bound.... but AC3 is specially bad optimized (almost all load goes in to 1 core) . I finish AC4 with tridef (1080p Top Bottom mode) and frame rate is good (between 45 and 60), but AC3....pfff...runs like shit (24-25 fps in boston....and some parts 16-18 fps)...and no matter what config i use (Low settings, high settings, play in 720p) frame rate is the same....LOL....even i OC my i7 3770K and gain like 1 or 2 fps...
@tushaar....i don't know if is posssible to play with an GTX560 at 1080p 3D those games... Also you need a very powerfull CPU.

Either way, a new graphics card certainly wouldn't hurt
