Future of 3D Vision Support (Official announcement from NVIDIA)
21 / 42
I have one positive aspect of Vision that I'm using...the stereo effects to make 60hz on a variable refresh rate monitor (FreeSync) look very smooth without the use of G-Sync. The 2D stereo really blew me away.

If our awesome modders and shader fixers are gonna build alternative then I would hope of future titles with dxr to be playable in stereoscopic 3d. How beautiful it will look.
Also I think in coming years we will have better VR headsets that would be lighter and have 4k-8k resolutions!
I will donate as much as I can if there is a kickstarter. First someone should start a petition so atleast we get the idea how many people we have who will back the kickstarter!

Good morning everyone, about 10 days ago I found out about this, apologize if you do not understand me perfect but I am Spanish and I am using the Google translator. I'm not a cyclops either, and I do not want to be one again. I have been using 3D vision since 2015 and 3DFM software for 3-4 months I give a thousand thanks to all these people who make it possible is a marvel. I was always in the shade but I leave to support my disagreement with eliminating this technology that seems so good to me. I will always prefer to play in 3D at 720p before 4K (if it is in 3D if) raytracing and all those things do not work for me if I can not play in 3D. If this happened I sell the computer and my player stage is over forever. I am not willing to return to the world of the Cyclopes. I like virtual reality but that does not replace the 3D vision I like the two technologies each for its moment and none should be eliminated. I think it's wrong to stop giving support but at least the games that already work should continue to work forever, of course I would like to continue playing new games like so far. I have spent a lot of money on this and had future plans to continue buying 3D hardware to have in my future home, if I do not have it already it is because I have nowhere to put it. I support this cause strongly because I love 3D, it is the most incredible technology I've ever seen and it makes me very fun to play like that, I just regret not having met before. I am not a programmer but I am willing to support economically if it were necessary for 3D to remain alive forever. Greetings and good morning ..

For "Native" stereoscopic support built into games
It depends, on the 3D format that the display requires. As well as the renderer used and how it builds it stereoscopic frames/windows/buffers/viewports.
For example, OpenGL Quad Buffer for "full frame" 120Hz Frame Sequential will not work if Nvidia or AMD removes the needed buffer support from their drivers.
But generally, it should not be an issue, unless Microsoft borks native support in their DirectX API and/or OS.
At least this is my take on it.
There are much more qualified individuals here that know 1000 times more than me and could give a more definitive answer.

I was just thinking why didn't nVidia drop something else besides 3D, I mean there is the useless PHysx and SLI which hardly works anyhow..
This is really gonna suck if there is no more 3D, I just can't game in 2D now ..
Sad !!!
I have been using 3d vision since its origin and won't play anything without 3d except as a last resort. I have all the latest Vr headsets but they still cant compare when I want that 3d fix , in an rts game or simulation.
I too will support any effort to keep the 3d dream alive. I cannot understand how so many people don't appreciate the difference between 3d stereo and 2d cyclops vision both in gaming and movies.
Tridef-3d going under took away several rts type ames I used to be able to play in 3d which didn't work with Nvidia. Now it seems many more may bite the dust.
Here is hoping the people who appreciate non-cyclops vision can keep things alive. I'll be putting a contribution in as soon as I finish this note.
p.s. maybe you can include whatever power 3d method that tridef used now that they don't need it. It did seem to allow games like ultimate general Civil War and several others to work when Nvidia failed.
Its possible that some of the sheeple that don't understand/like 3d vision, can't actually see in 3d.
There's definitely folks like that. Having 'lazy eye' will do it, for instance. Those things are too rare to be a significant reason, though. I'm pretty certain far more people are red/green colorblind but that doesn't stop us from using RGB colors instead of just RB.
There's a few reasons. First, it's a hassle. You've got to get the right monitor, you've got to turn the glasses on, you've got to keep them charged, you probably have to deal with special mods (which also means you've got to wait for those mods to show up), and so on. Second, there's the cost. You need a somewhat better monitor, the glasses, and a graphics card that can dish out a good bit more frames per second. Third, there's vanity. "I look dorky wearing those glasses."
There's psychological one playing around, too, though I have no clue how much of a factor it is: how important is eye triangulation to your perception? We use more than the triangulation to figure out where everything is in space. Different people could be putting less weight on the triangulation than others. (Any budding psych majors out there looking for a dissertation - here you go.)

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.
Well if Nvidia wanted to remove one of their unique selling points prior to being annihilated by google stadia, killing 3d support is it. Well done Nvidia - you've shot yourselves in the foot yet again. Once I can't use 3d I have zero reason to use your graphics cards in the future, and I won't be using windows either.
Trying to compete with google for streaming services will not work. You are up against the largest fibre backbone in the world. The only reason people will buy dedicated graphics cards is for features they can't stream. 3d is one of those technologies that is a niche market google probably won't bother with.
Just look at the music business. CD sales got slaughtered by first downloads, then streaming. Films went the same way - DVD's and then netflix. Games will go down the same route and thanks to nvidia hacking off everyone in the industry you've already lost to AMD with regard to google's contract. So what are you going to do if you kill of your niche markets ?
RTX is dumb. Killing unique technologies google won't bother with is dumber. So there you are - dumb and dumber.
What's left in audio and films is niche markets. Vinyl, hd sound, surround sound disks, blu ray, audiofile equipment etc. What makes you think nvidia you can beat google at a technology they already have decades of investment in ? They have the advertising placement, the crossover from youtube, adsense, and unlike nvidia they listen to their customers and produce reasonably priced products and don't try to rip them off at every opportunity. Good luck competing against that....

I think you give a bit too much credit to google... Remember Google+ (The Facebook "killer" and other "top of the line" products made by Google?).
I think Nvidia is just fine.

@andyguitargloucester Although I agree with your basic logic here, I do not see people accepting streamed game services the same way as those other industries. For me personally, and the type of games I like I am already concerned about things such as latency and input delay before I even get into tech like 3D. Then theres mods...
