*** Semi-solution to Windows Update 1803 bug : I change hide_cursor=1 to hide_cursor=0 in the [Device] section of d3dx.ini and put a semi-colon in front of the line "include=ShaderFixes\mouse.ini" at end of the file.
I think it forces cursor depth to screen depth but it's playable...

I *so* want to post screenshots but the less you know about what's coming the better. It's FREE now, there's no need to do research! Don't be looking at those promo videos! Here's what you need to know:

Welp, I have no idea where to turn.... I downloaded the free version (which requires launching through Epic Games Launcher) and every time the game brings up a dark screen as if it is in mid-game - I can see HUD elements on the bottom right, a "Loading..." script on the lower left, a "Saving game..." script on the upper left, and the words "Dec-2018 61919" on the upper right. The game is frozen, and all I can do is control-alt-delete out of it. It won't even let me take a screenshot of it to show you guys. I haven't found anything like this issue on the web.
I have gone into the save game folder to see if the game somehow created a corrupt save file, but there's nothing in there since I have literally never even gotten to the main menu. I uninstalled, cleaned the registry, deleted left-over folders, and reinstalled - still the same result.
Edit: I looked at the error logs, here's the culprit, but I don't know how to fix it:
"d3d11.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module d3d11.dll at 0033:58646da0."

Have you installed mods for it, like the 3D Vision mod? If so, better remove them.
Could be something odd with your drivers, too.

^^ I just installed the latest NVidia driver a couple nights ago because the latest Windows update broke the previous one (some options suddenly disappeared). The game reacts the same whether the 3D Vision mod is installed or not.
I've been dealing with consequences of this stupid Windows update every night since it decided to install without my permission.... suddenly my drivers are messed up, the user interface has changed as they continue to dumb-down the OS, and last night I discovered that my back-up hard drive is suddenly MIA. I can't even find it listed in the bios, so maybe it just died, but it's an awfully strange coincidence.

Update: I previously clean-installed new drivers, but just to make sure, I decided to do a complete DDU uninstall and then clean install of the latest drivers. Unfortunately that has not fixed anything.

[Update]: SOLVED. I had put off the Windows 10 Creators update for 6 months or a year (I don't remember), but it finally forced itself upon my system. It's created havoc, and by luck I found the thread dealing with the issues.
FOR ANYONE ELSE HAVING PROBLEMS LAUNCHING SUBNAUTICA WHEN RUNNING THE WINDOWS 10 CREATORS UPDATE VERSION:
Go into the game directory, right-click on the game's .exe and select "properties." Select the "Compatibility" tab, and check the box next to "Disable fullscreen optimizations."
What the heck is that even supposed to do anyway? Good grief what a fiasco.

The CREATORS update? As in Spring 2017!? Well yeah, that probably is going to mangle things.
