You had mentioned the SSAO helped by lowering it. I don't know if you just made a error but it is actually SSAA(Super Sample Anti Aliasing) & has a big impact on performance & visual quality. I was 40 hours in when I realized this because most games have SSAO & that's what my brain saw!
Anyways the biggest thing for me with performance was setting SSAA to low & turning off "Contact Hard Shadows" since I couldn't notice anything visually with it on.
Hopefully we see a nice performance gain in the next driver release.
Yeah, sorry. SSAA is what I meant lol. But the real problem is the jitteryness when having the 3d enables as other people have stated. I get 15-20 fps on the main menu no matter what settings.. besides that one time I mentioned of course...

I think when Mantle update is released for this game in their March patch we might see some performance improvements for Nvidia GPU"s especially since the optimization will be around drivers; maybe Nvidia will bring out a better set.
Not 3dvision but a good visual comparison for Thief:

Thanks eqzitara, but that didn't do it either unfortunately. Can someone please confirm that I'm editing the correct file, in the correct file location?
I'm editing ...\SteamApps\common\Thief\Engine\baseengine.ini
Sometimes games have more than one set of .ini files (usually the second set is in MyDocuments), though I can't find any other than in ...\SteamApps\common\Thief\Engine

For what its worth, ive been editing that .ini file too. I did not find any other in my documents or appdata folders.
What kind of blur are you talking about? I get distortion or blur in the image while sprinting or "swooping". I thought it was part of the game mechanics, but i never noticed it to be in 1 eye only.

Yes, that sprinting blur is what I'm talking about. It's intentional, and looks good in 2d. But it appears only in my right eye in 3d and makes me instantly queasy.

I hate the swooping blur, its really bad. I never really have to sprint much so that doesn't bother me, but OMG swooping is horrible. I want to use it all the time because its pretty cool but I have to try really hard to ignore the blur effect :-(

Ok, out of curiosity im gonna download the game again. Already finished and uninstalled, but i have to check if i get that blur effect on 1 eye only. If its some bug on your part, its gonna look worse than blur in both eyes. Ill try to capture video using shadowplay too, to check if it has the capability to record 3d and raw youtube compatibility.
I wasnt too happy about the blur either, but i ran maybe 3-5 times total and got used to swoop blur rather quickly. I still wasnt too happy about it and tried to edit .ini file too to remove it. No success.

Foulplay99, could you confirm how many eyes you get the blur in? I find it pretty innocous on its own (ie. in 2D or in 3D with left eye closed), but the horribleness comes from having it in one eye while the other eye sees sharply. It feels like putting on a pair of prescription glasses belonging to a friend who has one bad eye.
sammy123, I'm very keen to hear your results. If it's only me, then I need to get to the bottom of what's going on. Thanks.

Im done now, right eye gets the blur in my case while running. Maybe little on left one too, but its definitely more pronounced on my right one. Swoop seems to blur both eyes equally.

Thats shadowplay 1080p ~400MB raw 3d file. Plays fine on stereoscopic player or powerDVD. I didnt upload it to youtube due to not knowing whether its compatible or not. All settings max except SSAA off. Watch it if you want, ill take it down at the end of the day, 11 am now.
edit: actually in that preview window you see left and right eye, you can compare without downloading i suppose.

aha - so just like mine. Good to know that at least swoop is unaffected (I haven't gotten far enough in the game to see swoop myself).
sammy123, does the right-eye blur go away if you mess with the motionblur, motionblurpause, DOF, or radialblur settings in baseengine.ini?
Also, did you find yourself sprinting a lot in regular gameplay? (I imagine I would, since I'd likely take a high-risk playstyle but try to avoid combat.)
EDIT: Is swooping what you did towards the end of the video? If so, it has the same problem. Yes, the edges of the image blur equally on both eyes, but have a look at the centre:
