Dirt 2 update now supports 3D Vision uhhh...see above

Yes it's very better now ! Thanks

well i tried it once, before the new patch was released. I didnt think it is necessary to use the tweak after the patch, since i was not sure what was causing the sideeffect.
now when i tried to use the tweak again it looked like it messed up more than it solved.. (see the screens)
luckily i got an idea to delete the ("old") stereoprofile for the game and now the game is 100% 3Dvision compatible - i can adjust both deapth and convergence to my liking.. ^^
thank you!

I tried this game again last night but the convergence was way off when the game loaded, the menu was unreadable.
Also, when changing to 1280 x 720 the game crashes.
How did you delete the "old" profile?
all stereo profiles are stored in the folder NVStereoscopic3D.LOG that is located in my documents folder.
after you will delete profile the game will start with default stereo settings which will have to be adjusted (both depth and convergence), since the game doesnt have its own profile made by stereo driver team.

I always thougth that the folder NVStereoscopic3D.LOG only contains logs that document problems with certain games. I also couldn't find a file that contains Dirt 2 in this folder...
As far as I know the S3D settings are stored in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs
I had to delete the entry for 2-3 games after I had problems with 3Dvision in that games and it solved the problems.
I alway start Dirt 2 with 3DVision switched off to be able to navigate through the menus. I activate 3DVision only when just starting a race.
BTW: Changing the file hardware_settings_config.xml doesn't affect the S3D profile and settings at all! So the problems You've mentioned IMHO could have another reason.

My original display name is 3d4dd - for some reason Nvidia changed it..?!
So...are these nvidia 3d profiles anything more than settings for depth+convergence and the advice text that pops up in green at the beginning of a game or do they have more power than that to actually change things within the game?

I'm not sure... Andrews post in http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=99854 seems to indicate that the nvidia driver / profiles can't turn off disturbing effects caused by shadows, post effects etc. and that they can only be changed by game settings or game udpates. On the other hand there had been some rare cases when a driver update (not a game update!) solved problems. I guess it was Avatar and Just Cause 2. Usually I don't share the high hopes that often are connected with a game profile - or the complaints about missing profiles. I can adjust depth and convergence for myself and find out which shadows and post effects I have to turn off (in game or via .ini-files). In most of the cases the profiles don't seem to do anything more (and often less!) than that.
It would be much better if nvidia could cooperate with the game developers when the games are designed. Or - as nvidia has the graphic experts - could give us more information what kind of effects (blur, bloom, dynamic shadows,...) usually are disturbing and how these effects can be turned off by findig the right entries in .ini-files of games.

The "facts" on my PC are that there is no file in NVStereoscopic3D.LOG that seems to be connected to Dirt 2. And when I took the screenshots posted above I only changed the file hardware_settings_config.xml and nothing else (convergence or depth settings). As You can see on the screenshots: apart from the diffuse shadows beeing eliminated nothing else changed.
Did You try to activate/deactivae dynamic occlusion now that You have readjustet the 3Dvision settings? Is there again the problem with the 3DVision configuration? Can You reproduce Your problem?
Are You sure that You saved Your convergence settings using the hotkey after You had adjusted it for the first time? If You didn't do that and restartet the game (after editing the hardware_settings_config.xml) then also the convergence settings in Dirt 2 will be reset to default or perhaps another value. That could be the reason why Your settings were messed up. Then restarting the game (and not editing hardware_settings_config.xml) would be the reason for Your observations...

I know the latest driver fixed some serious problems with Just Cause 2 that go way beyond settings things. Certain things used to appear as double images to just one eye, and it was unplayable.
Found a workaround that allows You to play the game with the highest shadow quality and no disturbing effects.
If You set the shadow quality to max You will see that all the shadows are placed correctly besides from some diffuse shadows around the cars.
To remove these diffuse shadows You have to edit the file hardware_settings_config.xml in the folder C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\My Games\DiRT2\hardwaresettings with a text editor.

well i tried it once, before the new patch was released.

all stereo profiles are stored in the folder NVStereoscopic3D.LOG that is located in my documents folder.
after you will delete profile the game will start with default stereo settings which will have to be adjusted (both depth and convergence), since the game doesnt have its own profile made by stereo driver team.

Then this disturbing shadow will dissappear :)
GREAT JOB BRO!!! It worked like a charm for me. Now if they can fix the loading screens. Will this work on Pure? Can you recommend other games this could work on?
If You set the shadow quality to max You will see that all the shadows are placed correctly besides from some diffuse shadows around the cars.
To remove these diffuse shadows You have to edit the file hardware_settings_config.xml in the folder C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\My Games\DiRT2\hardwaresettings with a text editor.
Change the phrase
dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="true" to dynamic_ambient_occ enabled="false"
Then this disturbing shadow will dissappear :)
