My cousin who was living with me the last few months moved out today and gifted me a couple more games as a "thank you" present. So playing around with it now. Looks pretty good. Noticing a couple of issues so just thought I would check here if it's expected. Master's notes seem to indicate some of the things I am seeing have been fixed. * Shadow's are not the correct depth. They are in stereo but they seem slightly off alignment. Is this normal? * Save crystal effect is not at correct depth. Sorry if this is stated somewhere and I missed it. (I did read the notes.) Using the convergence preset hotkeys. although it seems typically only one value per setting is actually comfortable, rest unplayable.

It looks like something has broken the shadows in the latest drivers. I'm checking it now.

It looks like for some reason, with the most recent drivers, an important part of the fix is partially broken. One of the main annoying problems in the game was HUD flickering for dynamic depth elements, and I fixed that by letting the drivers stereoize everything, and then I manually unstereoized the things I needed. The method for that is using ShaderOverrides like:
[ShaderOverrideShadows3GS] Hash=b6c084c289eabf64 Separation=0 Convergence=0
With the new drivers, these things are behaving as if they mandatorily use some depth or convergence. At 0 they were perfect in previous drivers. Necropants, can you try the fix with 390.77 drivers? The ones I'm using now (391.01) show the broken shadows and the other drivers are the ones I used when I made the fix. I don't know if I need a clean reinstall or if something in the drivers made that 3Dmigoto feature inaccurate. In creasing those values over 0 make it worse, so they are working in some manner. It isn't a game profile problem, because I switched it to a new profile and it has the same problem. In any case, save crystals and heatwaves are still fixed for me, using the convergence presets in the fix.

I am using 391.01 as well. We have the same monitor so I should be using the same resolution and such, but also remember I use SLI I will try with it disabled maybe. I'm using max settings in the game config as well. Profile actually comes up with "not recommended" is this right? I did not modify the profile in any way. Unfortunately I can't really go back to a previous driver at the moment as I needed this driver to fix some other annoying problems I was having with three screens, and I haven't been able to save all my custom profiles for some reason so it's really tedious and time consuming to go through and fix them all. =(

I have to go to bed right now, but first thing in the morning I'll reinstall the previous drivers just in case, try the game, and then cleanly install the new ones (I don't like that DDU doesn't offer booting into safe mode now, what a way to make me be lazy...). If that confirms that new newest ones are screwing a 3Dmigoto feature, I'll speak with bo3b/DSS about it.

Ok cool, yeah sorry I couldn't be more helpful, My setup with graphics drivers and profiles just seems really sensitive right now. It's annoying most of the time I can't get GF3DPM to work properly anymore *edit* Ok since these kind of things annoy me I bit the bullet and did a clean install back to 390.77 Installed the fix completely from scratch also. Tried with SLI on and off. Get the feeling you might have been seeing a different issue? Just curiously what graphics settings are you using? I am basically running max except for DOF (you know my feelings about this =D) Same problem. Although once I venture out of the starting city the character shadows in the desert do not seem to be effected Screenshot attached

Well, this is some next level stupid shit. I don't understand how this happens. I found the "culprit", as in, the thing I had before that prevented this problem from appearing. And it isn't the drivers version. Some time into making the fix, Kaimasta gave me the contents to make a ".reg" file (registry keys) to enable more advanced real time profile editing, for stereo cutoff things. And now I see that for some unknown reason, just having these hotkeys available fixes the shadows problem. Create a text file making a ".reg" extension and put this inside:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D] @="" "StereoAdvancedHKConfig"=dword:00000001 "StereoFullHKConfig"=dword:00000001 "CutoffNearDepthLess"=dword:00000461 "CutoffNearDepthMore"=dword:00000462 "CutoffFarDepthLess"=dword:00000464 "CutoffFarDepthMore"=dword:00000465 "CutoffStepLess"=dword:00000467 "CutoffStepMore"=dword:00000468
Then execute the file and let it make the registry changes. It resets after every driver install. Just after installing this thing, boot the game. You won't see any shadows problem. This lets you use alt+numpad keys to modify stereo cutoff settings while ingame, and the Nvidia OSD (same as the depth slider) will tell you about it. About the save crystal, what you see there is something that the game decided to draw that way, and it's shared with a lot other effects, so I don't think I can change how that works. What I fixed was the image that you see inside of it (you see a reflection of its surroundings, including Vaan). I'm going to update the fix to include the reg file. I don't know if it will affect other games, but at the very least it makes the 0 separation and 0 convergence shader override case perfect. Edit: how come no one told me things were broken before? :/ Edit 2: fix reuploaded on the blog (with the latest 3Dmigoto, now that I have the chance), including this ".reg" file.

Awesome, thanks man. I think a lot of people are just very tolerant or not used to playing games that are truly 3DReady. I have lost count of the amount of times I have seen on this forum, that "3D is great out of the box." only to log in and find it's pretty broken in significant ways that I would deem unplayable. This was still totally playable by the way, just I thought something must be off since it was one of your fixes.

And thank you for telling me about this :). I wouldn't have booted the game for a while. I was very hooked to the game (30h in a short span of time), but then Trails of Cold Steel 2 was released and hooked me even more strongly (I'm more than halfway through, I think). I always try to list all broken or non perfect effects (and warnings and stuff), and also what a fix fixes. If it's neither, then it's something that was already OK to begin with.

Yeah sometimes I can feel like a bit of a dick cause I'm not sure I'm just being really picky and it's something that wasn't resolved quite right or if something is actually wrong. Thanks a lot again. This was the one single player FF I was always interested in giving a good shot, I kinda got over the style since FF8 and the newer ones are also not my taste. FFXV looks a bit bromancy for me too haha.

To make it known to everyone, the "StereoFullHKConfig" registry key is the only one that needs to be enabled. It allows 0 separation to be used in games instead of a minimum of 1%, so what I was converting to mono on purpose (double stereoized things like shadows) in "d3dx.ini" was inaccurate without it. There are other methods of achieving the same thing ("dcl_constantbuffer cb12[1], immediateIndexed " in shaders that have to be mono, so I don't forget), but for the moment and maybe just for this game I'll leave it like this, because I'd have to dump some shaders that I don't have anymore. The advantages of leaving it like this are having less shader files and that it's easy to change settings for testing.

My next (unreleased) update fixes some issues: - HUD clipping and text depth when the HUD is at depth. - Sun flares at proper depth and not corrupted by another fix. - Viera forest glyph fixed (the crystal fix had broken it). - One skybox (in the snow area) now at full depth instead of too close to the camera. - Currently trying to fix a haloing problem in some monsters and effects. If I fix it, I'll probably not have to disable any effect by default :). I'll keep playing the story to ensure that I see everything. If you were going to play the game now, please wait at least a few days or a week.

Those pesky haloing and refraction problems are now fixed! :) In the end I needed the FFX formula with just a small addition. So nothing will depend on convergence presets anymore. I'm still finding some more skyboxes to put to depth and I'm more than halfway through the main story. Just more testing and polishing time and the update will be ready for release.
