What's the deal with objects that are close to the camera getting their distance magnified? Take this shot for instance. Her arm appears to be, oh, about SIX FEET LONG! Her hand is downright silly looking. Is this a (long standing) bug in the drivers or is this just how it has to be?

In first person shooters it effects your guns/hands/devices IN EVERY GAME! It tends to look more normal when i back away from the screen, leading me to think that the Nvidia software doesn't account for a 65 - 85+ degree screen FOV. In most games, my rifles look as big as a tank's main gun barrel
To be honest, its really only beneficial in first person adult games... when i look down, you know what i talking about.

For me when i adjust convergence to bring the gun back toward me, I find that it makes the other objects in front of me look much smaller than they should. When i stand next to a tank, i want to feel the size of it, you know what i mean.
I think this screenshot illustrates the problem: You can see in right bottom photo, the separation on the end of the sniper rifle looks to be too much; its almost as much as the windtower. All the while, the foreground looks as it should. Every game ive played looks this way.

I think its basically that your depth and convergence are too high, so things have an unaturally separation. Something that could not occur in real life.
I'm also noticing that 3d us very relative to the size of the object. Your brain is trying to make sense of these completely unnatural images and things stretching off is how it perceives it.
If you think about the actual size of separation from the base of your gun, compared to the tip, that mat be a difference that in life, represents 20 foot.
Ideally there should be 'planes' that you can adjust separately. One for the area closest to you (for guns etc) and one for the rest. (maybe others) this would allow you to have a lot of separation, but for it to become less extreme at your gun, so it doesn't look a mile long.

I don't trust those guns at all in FPS games. The portion of the screen they fill up never seems quite sane even in 2D. It's like the gun is being braced a few inches under your underarm.
I'm starting to think you're right with convergence, though. The setting is just too high for my monintor's size and distance from my face.

The thing is though is that i can't adjust convergence and make the gun look right without killing the look of the foreground; which gives it the toy effect. I am starting to think that the gun models are just too big by default and maybe they need a size slider to match a given combination of depth/convergence/viewing distance and possibly fov setting.

Here's a link to a good article I came acroos explaining 3D settings such as convergence http://www.mtbs3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6197&Itemid=98
is this a new thing or i just never notice it before. I was playing l4d 2 and i saw a van that appeared to be twenty feet long, i thought of this thread rightaway. Now im going to see this all the time......thanks lol

Tty and move closer to the screen increasing your screen fov and see if if long rifles or whatever still look the right size while near another object. Whats your depth setting and screen fov btw?

Im just talking about his screen FOV. Changing your distance from the screen drastically alters the perceived depth. Its not that in-game FOV setting won't have an effect, it might, but i,ve tried changing it in Metro 2033 and it doesn't seem to have much effect.

Maybe the real point of convergence is really to account for people sitting further from the screen?
