Dead Island Riptide in 3D
  1 / 3
Had a quick try and to my surprise it's a lot better than the original. The shadows seem to rendering correctly this time and many other issues which were present in the original seem to be working now. There are some things that render in 2D (such as smoke some water effects and fire effects) but it's still very much playable. I've only played the first level for a bit so don't know if there's more issues once I get further but it seem promising so far. Maybe I'll give the original fix at Helix Mod a try and see if it fixes some of the issues but I would like to keep the shadows as they seem to working fine this time. Also the nVidia rating for this game with the latest betas is rated Good and as far as I remember the original was rated Not Recommended. Maybe the fine people here can also take a look and see if some of the issues can be fixed by using the Helix wrapper (i'm guessing this is a DX9 game afterall). Oh and also the crosshairs are at wrong depth so maybe those can be fixed as well and maybe we could get the "rightmousemod" or the Chiri's method to work so when using ironsights we could use lower depth/convergence values with ironsights.

How about the gameplay/story?....i read a lot of reviews that it's the same thing that previous DI, nothing new....almost an "Extended Content". i never played previous DI, so i suppose it's a PLUS for me :)

Sounds promising thanks a lot, however I didn't know the first game had a fix and I don't see it anywhere, where can I find it?

Apparently the game itself has few improvements on the mediocre original though. 3d or not, I'm staying away from this one. Good luck with a fix though :)

With this modding tool: http://www.theplaywrite.com/tools-and-utilities/tweak-visual-settings-controls-and-performance-with-dead-island-riptide-helper/ you can tweak the game both graphically and also in gameplay. Some of those tweaks also help with how the game is rendered in 3D. I disabled motion blur (which is just horrible because it blurs the whole screen when sprinting) with the tool you can also enable "simple shadows" which basically removes dynamic shadows from the game although surprisingly the shadows render quite well in Riptide as opposed to the original where the shadows were completely messed up. There still are some issues especially with some effects (such as fire and smoke) and some of the floating markers are in 2D. I also disabled SSAO which seemed to help with the 3D. The biggest annoyance imo though is that the crosshair is in 2D (if anyone knows a way to remove it would be great), but the game can also be played mostly with melee weapons so the crosshair issue mostly affects guns. I'll try to get the "rightmousebind" mod to work in this game so we could use higher convergence values so that the ironsights would use a lower convergence value when aiming. Also birthright, you seem to be correct as there doesn't seem to a fix for the original at Helix's site, but I do recall there being one at one point but it wasn't rated as Helix ready but instead it mostly had dynamic shadows removed and maybe some other tweaks, but it was far from a perfect fix (though maybe I just got it mixed with some other game) so maybe it was just removed.

ahh this fix doesn't work with riptide. eqzitara , it would be nice if you could fix it, since riptide seems to have less 3Dvision bugs.

Thanks Pirateguybrush, I wonder why this fix isn't in Helix game list.

I was able to remove the crosshairs. Use the instructions mentioned here (these are NOT mine so props go to whomever made it originally): http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24994932&postcount=370 and just apply the section where it mentions the crosshair: I wrote the important parts from the instructions here for convenience: 1. Extract the following file from Data0.pak with WinRAR or some other similar program of your choise (found in Steam\steamapps\common\dead island\DI\): Data\Menu\HUD\HUD.XUI Then, place it in the following folder (if it doesn't already exist, create the folder): C:\Users\<username>\Documents\DeadIsland\out\Data\Menu\HUD 2. Open the HUD.xui file with a text editor of your choice (notepad works fine) and search for the following: hudcrosshair 3. Add the following line under the <Height> line <Opacity>0.000000</Opacity> Example for hudcrosshair: <Id>HudCrosshair</Id> <Width>100.000000</Width> <Height>100.000000</Height> <Opacity>0.000000</Opacity> <Position>640.000000,360.000000,0.000000</Position> <Pivot>50.000000,50.000000,0.000000</Pivot> 4. The save and play without a crosshair and use the nVidia laser sight (remember to save the file as a HUD.xui and not as a HUD.xui.txt) You can of course use all the other HUD tweaks mentioned in the thread as well but all I needed was to remove the crosshairs and it worked. The nVidia laser sight also seems to be a little off but i'll try to use some other games profile (maybe Mass Effect 2) to get it working properly. If anyone finds a better profile for the lasersight, please let us know.

I wrote the important parts from the instructions here for convenience:

1. Extract the following file from Data0.pak with WinRAR or some other similar program of your choise (found in Steam\steamapps\common\dead island\DI\):

Data\Menu\HUD\HUD.XUI

Then, place it in the following folder (if it doesn't already exist, create the folder):

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\DeadIsland\out\Data\Menu\HUD

2. Open the HUD.xui file with a text editor of your choice (notepad works fine) and search for the following:

hudcrosshair

3. Add the following line under the <Height> line

<Opacity>0.000000</Opacity>

Example for hudcrosshair:

<Id>HudCrosshair</Id>
<Width>100.000000</Width>
<Height>100.000000</Height>
<Opacity>0.000000</Opacity>
<Position>640.000000,360.000000,0.000000</Position>
<Pivot>50.000000,50.000000,0.000000</Pivot>

Using the Mass Effect 2 profile fixed the nVidia laser sight issues and it now seems to function perfectly. So after the tweaks I've posted, I'd now rate this game "good" in 3D Vision as there still are some issues with some things rendering in 2D and such, but it's now definitely better than it was. There seems to be some issues with some more distant shadows and I'm trying to find out if lowering the shadow settings or lowering the draw distance could help with these. But the most annoying thing is fixed which was the the crosshairs. If someone wan't to play this game without dynamic shadows, then I'd rate this game excellent if one applies the fixes I've posted, but as the shadows mostly render correctly now, I wouldn't disable them as they do enhance the graphics a lot. One thing, I've noticed is that if you alt-tab out of the game, the shadows go all wrong, but if you adjust convergence even a little, they should go back to normal. Now if only I could get the "rightmousebind" mod to work it would make this even better 3D experience. One thing that is an issue though is that right mouse is also used as a "throw" when using melee weapons so maybe we should map ironsights to a different mouse button (the middle one maybe?) if we do get the mod to work.

ill look soon, no promises on results but it sounds the same as original dead island which is a mess. Shadows sound the same. Alt tab/ increase convergence thing happened in first as well. original dead island fix was pretty bad, it was when I was first experimenting.

Everything is the same as regular dead island, same engine. Shadows are kind off and indoor lighting/shadows are completely broken. I have no idea how people are playing this because im just on the boat and lighting only shows in one eye.
