Battlefield 4 - 3D looks amazing, but crashes frequently
  1 / 2
So, I'm running the new wonder drivers with my twin 780 Tis, on a Win 8.1 64-bit machine, piped to a Panasonic AE8000 projector. As a result I have to run 3D at 1280 x 720 @ 60Hz, but it still looks fantastic due to the game's inbuilt supersampling - i can barely tell the differerence between 720p and 1080p. Now, the 3D looks AMAZING. I can't play without it now. However, I'm having two major problems: 1.) As soon as the game loads, the refresh rate seems to be locked to 30Hz. I have to manually change it down to 50Hz, then back up 60Hz. 2.) The driver frequently crashes, but only when running in 3D mode. Once it's crashed, the game won't load again until i reboot the entire PC - the game simply crashes every time until I've done a full reboot. Hopefully you can fix these issues, as BF4 is truly amazing in 3D, probably my favourite 3D experience. Please look into this!

As a help for you when it crashes, have you tried CTRL, ALT DELeting and End Processing the bf4.exe? I've had to do that for a few games before.

Yep, I've tried manually ending the process via Task Manager, makes no difference- once it's crashed the NVIDIA driver, it requires a full system reboot to work again.

Did I miss something? Last time I checked (3 weeks ago) Battlefield 4 still only had this crappy fake 3D support that Nvidia introduced in January!? No way this could be described as a breathtaking experience. So I really would like to know if I missed something......

As we noted in the driver feedback thread, it really depends upon what you are comparing it to. Compared to real 3D, yeah Compatibility Mode is weak sauce. If you've only ever seen it in 2D, CM is a great first taste of 3D.

TechLad76 - you must be blind dude. Fake 3D especially in BF4 is just NASTY to next degree. Flat, ugly, Halos around the gun and just terrible looking. Dunno what your talking about. It's not better than nothing and I would rather play in 2D than the Fake 3D BS.

Agree it doesn't look very good.. however, the FPS tend to be a bit better than the 3rd person games with regards to "fake" 3d. Add to that, the Tridef software has a much better implementation of "fake" 3d than Nvidia. BF4 looks rather impressive in Power3D mode.

Battlefield 4 under tridef (Power3D disabled) looks just awesome. Only issue is the known problem with high convergence settings and aiming.

Very interesting how thoughts on differ on the quality of the 3D. For me, even this fake 3D looks amazing, albeit I am viewing it on a huge 120 inch projector screen. I can only imagine the improvements if it was using this true 3D method you speak of. One thing I do have to disagree with is halo'ing and ghosting - I've managed to basically remove any sign of this by tweaking my projector's 3D settings. It all looks solid as a rock, with plenty of depth to the scene.

In general, the Compatibility Mode (z-buffer, fake-3d, power3d) mode works better for projector users, because projectors do not require as much depth, and so it's more convincing. For a good list of games that work terrific in 3D, you can see the community picks: http://lists.bo3b.net/s3d/ And for games that are fixed to be nearly flawless you can go to: http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/07/game-list-full.html

You shader hackers are legends!!! Didnt want to start a new thread so I thought Id leave my experience and gratitude over here. I really appreciate what you guys did for this game!!! Perhaps one of my saddest moments was seeing the poor 3d in the early stages of release. My gtx 680 boasts 1150 hours online gaming with BF4 (2D though). Was literally hooked to this game. Kicking actual human beings asses are more fun than bots =) Never thought BF4 could live up to BF3's stereoscopic experience. Heart racing and goosebumps at many scenes in this game. Never realized so much went into this game until I experienced it in satisfactory 3d. You dont really know who to believe when someone says the 3d in a game is mind blowing since so many guys come here overwhelmed on their first 3d experience, exaggerating to a degree. When they havent seen the full potential 3d vision have to offer. Once you play around and find the comfortable sweet spot in the 3d gaming environment you're mind is always BLOWN. Dont know if I missed it somewhere explaining but the following tweaks, found in your "d3dx" file, might have helped others to benefit more from the 3Dmigoto mod: [Key2] Key = RBUTTON convergence = 0.1 separation = 60.0 type = hold transition = 100 transition_type = linear release_transition = 100 release_transition_type = cosine From what I understand the 3Dmigoto mod fixes DX11 shader problems? Very thankful for you shaderhackers developing this mod!! Without a doubt I will place BF4 next to Tomb Raider 2013 3D experience now. Developers placed this bird in a cage. You guys set it free for us! I use TsaebehT's depth bypass. I would encourage any one who havent played around with this to try it out. From my experience it interferes a bit with nVidia's individual profile stereoscopic presets. Which means you have to reset your prefered depth and convergence everytime you tweak it in another game: Changing the depth changes it for all games (Globally) and not just the individual game. (I havent tried the "Reg Version" yet. Will this eliminate this problem?) Even though BF4's native 100% depth is guite good, that extra 10 or 20% freedom do a lot for the experience. Thanks for this TsaebehT! Im a bit frustrated that I didnt know about this when I first got onboard the 3d gaming ship. I actually started replaying all my favorite 3d Vision games because of this. This helps the 3d vision bird to reach even higher altitudes =)
