Can you damage a regular LCD with 3D vision?
Hey guys, I had a question maybe someone can answer. I use two displays on my PC a 30" and my 23" Acer for 3d Gaming, I often bring in (swap so to speak) my DVI connections for the 3D Monitor. This has worked for me for almost a year now but with the new drivers I just realized that for the first time when I swapped back to my 30" 3d Vision did not automatically turn off. It usually turns off in the drivers and will not display but this time i saw the "3d rating" on the bottom right and the screen flickered like it was trying to initiate 3d (while still have the background of the game there).

Anyways it doesnt seem like anything went wrong but I ask because I will do this alot and knowing myself I forget to turn off the checkmark in the nvidia drivers everytime I swap and it might happen again.

Any ideas? I checked the refresh rate and it confirms at 60hz only so I dont get how 3d Vision could even try, it selected "Generic CRT Display" instead of 3d vision discover or 3D DLP etc automatically, Which my 30" is not.

You can't damage lcd-monitors with "wrong signals" or loss of signal. With old crt's it's another story though.

Oh really? Can I ask why that is with LCD's? it just flickered so I'm assuming it was actually trying to drive 3D via 30/30 FPS which is why it was flickering so much. I didnt know you can try to force 3D thru the drivers without a 3D Monitor, I see now you can just choose Generic CRT to try and force Stereoscopic or Vision discover for Anaglyph.

Now maybe this is because no matter what the GPU will never force a Refresh Rate other than 60hz even if it tries to do 3D it'll try 30/30 I guess. But I know that if you can somehow force a display to refresh anything higher than it's specified rate, you can fry it, is that also not true for LCD's?
