I think its funny because of Nvidia's lack of support that people think AMD is the future of 3D when they have done nothing even related to 3D. Seriously, why would they start now?
Am I the only one who see's it as ironic to say I really hate nvidia for lack of support so I am going to amd who has no support?

The real solution is to buy Tridef if you have a monitor that supports it. While Helixmod fixes offer the best 3D experiences it's nice being able to play a game like AC4 in 3D with Tridef. It's better than having to deal with all the issues currently in 3D Vision and with no optimism to think Nvidia is going to re-invigorate 3D Vision any time soon. I still prefer Nvidia video cards so I don't have to buy an AMD card this way.

I agree this is the best of both worlds.

I finally made my decision and got me a radeon 7970, I see myself playing mostly on the Oculus Rift with Tridef/Vorpx/native VR games and I found the card really cheap, and since the OR is graphic card agnostic, I will do fine with the 7970. I still have my 3d vision laptop that will work fine with the huge backlog I have of 3d Vision games.
Even if Nvidia announces something 3D Vision related, I can't trust Nvidia's support of their proprietary technology anymore.

Unless NVidia pull something amazing out of the bag my next upgrades will possibly be an AMD based secondary PC for using the Oculus Rift and playing Star Citizen. *IF* Mantle is as fast as they say, *IF* Cryengine gets it's OpenGL renderer sorted and SteamOS gives noticeable performance increases I'll be a happy man!

You all makes me laugh and im sure nvidia if they are reading over here what a bunch of stupid motherfuckers they have as total blind fanboys, get your hopes up IDIOTS and nvidia once again will rip you off.

Last I checked the Oculus Rift works on both nvidia and amd cards right? so why change the GPU?
Tridef also works on both GPUs no? (I know I used tridef on dx9 , onDX11 I dont have a monitor that support the output mode required)
It would be awesome that this month nvidia release 3d Vision support for openGL..which honestly I think would be the next logical thing to do.
Why?
1. All the SteamBoxes that I've seen so far have Nvidia GPUs
2. They all run on Linux (SteamOS is debian/ubuntu based)
3. Steam have ported some 3D Vision ready games to Linux : Trine2, Metro Last Light
4. It has been asked for ages:)) (some hacks, external libs exist but without official support is hard to make every opengl app use quadbuffering or even enable it, so far I was able to run glxgears in stereo, and code my own app with 3D Vision support)
5. 3DVision/3DTV Play + Steam Box would be a BIG advantage over the console competition etc
Maybe is wishful thinking, but If you are market oriented you can simply see this huge opportunity here...

@JnLoader I use a 3d Vision laptop... connected to my 100'' FHD projector. I see you have been suspended, you won't be missed.
@Helifax you're right, Nvidia cards are a perfectly valid solution to cover both worlds, you can use Nvidia cards with Tridef and Oculus, so indeed the most reasonable option is a Nvidia card.
The thing is that the main factor for me here was price. I got the chance to get the card really cheap, and right now I didn't see any reason to hold for an Nvidia card since they are no longer future proof in terms of 3D. I can play 99% of current 3d Vision games just fine on the laptop, but my good old 460gtx can't push 60 fps required for VR in any game right now, something that the 7970 apparently won't have issues with, at least at 720p. So I've got 3d Vision and VR covered, and Tridef seems the only option for 3D DX11 gaming right now, and I don't need an Nvidia card for that.
Today is the Nvidia CES conference, I really hope Nvidia makes me look like an idiot with a mindblowing 3d announcement, but I really doubt it.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything there ... I was just trying to be funny, no offense intended at all. As soon as I read that you had bought a Radeon, I immediately thought of Stewie's decision to destroy his time machine ... and well you know ... the consequences! :)
