3D Blu-ray with GTX 295?
Hi,

I saw on the nVidia web site (http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_3D_vi...n7_CD_1.25.html) at the NVIDIA GeForce GPUs board that if you got a GTX 295 video card you cant have 3D blu-ray even if you buy PowerDVD 10? is that right? I really need to buy a GTX 470 or 480 ?

Best regards

You may not have GPU accelerated decoding of the Blu-ray 3D, but you should still be able to watch it if your CPU can handle the decoding process...

No that is not correct. I have used Power DVD 10, with 3d Playback and it worked Great with my GTX 295

Yea that would not be cool if it couldn't use the gpu for decoding, but I would prefer it to use my i7 cause it's water cooled and much quieter than the 295 fan at speed.

How can the GT-240 also work, its on the list

Because the GT-240, GTX-470/480 has Hdmi ports where the other cards dont, so i am guessing they mean if you want to ouput 3D Bluray to a newer 3D TV those cards work, the other cards would need dvi-hdmi adapaters, then there is no audio, without running another audio cable, where the 3 listed card work hdmi

I'm pretty sure you can play 3D Blu-ray with GTX 295, ou just have to disable SLI, as cyberlink have not created POWERDVD 10 to be used with SLI, don't know why?

I have to disable my GTX 260 in SLI when watching a 3D DVD as my right eye would just see a grey sceen.

Has the 3D Blu-ray update come out for PowerDVD 10 Ultra?

Indeed the GTX295 does have an HDMI. It has 2 DVI outputs on one level (double height card), and an hdmi on the other.

So I cannot see any reason why this card would not be able to support 3D blu-ray. For sound, spdif can be taken from the motherboard onto the graphics card connector. This will only support 5.1 DD/DTS as per a normal DVD though and NOT the advanced audio codecs.

My apologies..I thought they all "came out of the same mould" and were just rebadged with different heatsinks etc. I wasn't aware that they didn't all have the same connections.

Mine is the Asus one. The HDMI port is next to the green LED light.

I don't think that it has anything to do with the availability of HDMI on the card. It is more of an architecture requirement...

GT240 and the Fermi GTX470/GTX480 all have the new 4-th gen PureVideo HD (VP4) where the GTX 295 is with VP2 and the VP3 is just a little bit of improved version of VP2 - no major changes.

VP4 is present in the following GPUs:
- GeForce 205, 210/G210, 310, G210M, 305M, 310M (GT210)
- GeForce GT 220, 315, GT 230M, GT 240M, GT 325M, GT 330M (GT 216)
- GeForce GT 240, GT 320, GT 340, GTS 250M, GTS 260M, GT 335M, GTS 350M, GTS 360M (GT 215)
- GeForce GTX 470, GTX 480 (GF100)

But of course the decoding process for Blu-ray 3D requires some level of minimum performance, probably comparable to that of the GT 240, so the slower models are not listed, because they probably can't decode the stream in real time...

We need better info from Nvidia
My guess was anything better than a 240 would, but only a few cards could output hdmi, without adaptors
