BF2 Special Forces Settings 7600GT or LESS Only, Please
Hi Guys,

If you own a 7600GT card or less (6800GT/GS would be a good candidate), can you post what game video settings you use?

Terrain, lighting, Dynamic lighting, etc?

BF2 runs great with everything high, but SF really chugs on my rig.

What have you gotten away with the Iron Gator map with smooth gameplay?

Please be detailed.

Thanks in advance,
Chopper :magic:

Hi,
my settings with:
CPU: AMD 2400Mhz (~intel 3700Mhz)
GFX: 6800GT 410Mhz/1100Mhz 256Mb RAM
1Gb RAM
BF2/BF2 SFsettings:
_______________1024*768 2D_____1600*1200 2D____1024*768@120Hz 3D
terrain__________high____________high_____________high
effects__________high____________high_____________high
geometry_______ high____________high_____________high
texture_________high_____________high_____________high
lighting__________high____________med_____________med
dynamic shadow__high____________med_____________med
dynamic light_____high____________med_____________med
anti-alias________2*______________2*_______________2*
texture filtering___high____________high_____________high
view distance_____100%__________100%____________100%

approx fps_______40-50___________40-50____________20-30
in BF2 SF (very playable)

There should not be that great a difference between BF2 and BF2 SF (maybe 5 fps). Remember to reinstall the patch after You have installed Special Forces. But You probably have, right?

Hmmm(n).

Something is wrong.

I have:

Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 754
1.5GB Ram
320GB SATA HD
EVGA 7600GT CO (580, 1500)
XFI Xtrememusic

Try playing Iron Gator where all the jets are on a 32 to 64 player map.

Wait till things get a bit crowded and things start blowing up.

Are you able to walk and run without your gun bouncing up and down? Or things getting jumpy? Try putting your gas mask on - still no slowdowns?

Yes, I'm patched to 1.4.

I'm using 91.48 WHQL, 91.47 stereo beta.

Regards,
Chopper

Do you know how to do a timedemo with SF? Maybe that would be a good way to test things out.

I've got a 7800GS+ now, because I wanted more fps when playing in 3D.
If You want to make a timedemo see this page:

I haven't done it recently but it worked. They should make a real BF2 benchmark!

I played online in 3D allways with the settings mentioned (driver 78.01/78.01) on all maps. I only got low fps when loading big maps in the first few seconds. After that no problems. No problems with explosions, jumpy or my gun bouncing or gasmask on. There might be more graphics in BF2 SF but the maps are smaller.

I actually was/am no so fond of the Iron Gator map bacause it is so hectic. Everything happens so fast!

Odd problem... maybe (longshots, I know /smile2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':))' />:
1. In game try [Esc] to menu, [Alt+Tab] to Win, [Alt+Tab] back, [Esc] to gameplay
2. You overclocked the GFX to high.
3. Your soundcard (same as mine) interferes (try uninstall it).
4. Install the full path 1.4, no the incremental.

You should have no probs with BF2 SF, it's great - better than ordinary BF2. Armoured Fury is great too. Those A-10 sounds aweinspiring on XFi.

I'm really surprised you don't have those slowdown problems.

If I make a timedemo, that will let me test out different settings versus FPS, right?

I find that with the stereo drivers, I have to alt-tab out and back into the game because the BF2 profile is misread the first time (the gun is split across half the screen!).

However, I never tried returning to the menu, and THEN alt-tabbing.

I did the full patch install of 1.4, with a fresh BF2 install.

It would be nice if there were additional players to share their experiences.

Could it be my CPU? Could it be a network lag problem? I am playing through a router.

Mind you, I don't get this problem in BF2 on its own.

Also, the problem is pretty much gone when I'm not in stereo mode.

Chopper

Q: If I make a timedemo, that will let me test out different settings versus FPS, right?
A: Yes.

With 7800GS+ I have to do this every time I start BF2/BF2 SF:
When joined a game press [Esc] to BF2 menu, [Alt+Tab] to Win XP, click the minimized BF2 window to return to BF2 menu, [Esc] to gameplay. This raises the fps from 10 to 30-50. Sounds like Your problem. This is with 91.31/91.31 driverset.

I'm no expert /no.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> but if You tried different drivers You might want to do a clean driver install. I've posted a quick guide in "91.31 problem - HELP". Hope this helps.

Does it make a difference if you just alt-tab in and out - or do you have to go to the BF2 menu first for the benefit?

It doesn't matter only I don't have a mousearrow in Win when just Alt-Tabbing, thats it. The increase in fps happens with both methods.
Here's 2 3D pics from The Iron Gator map:
