ASUS VG278H Concerns
Hi my first post and glad to be here on NVIDIA.
I have some questions to any owners of ASUS VG278H Monitor,I look in the ASUS forum not much there.
1. I understand the ir emitter sync with the glasses I move it up or down it doesn't change anything when i am in 3d mode it will be light green?
2. Wierd if I ask this about the monitor nothing real jumps out of the screen does it do that I used heaven benchmark and thats the only program things jump to me?

So in a short story nothing real seems 3D i watched 3D movies in PowerDVD and played a few 3D games nothing real look 3D,One thing i notice in the test 3D Vision Photo Viewer looks like there going more in screen then out.

Everingthing checks ok glasses green light I hope it is not a bed emitter in the monitor setup there is no error about the emitter.

Thanks for any tips or help.

Just a quick reply, but it sounds like you have not really played about adjusting separation(depth) and convergence (this is what affects 'pop out'). If you see anything in 3D at all right now, your hardware is working. In the Nvidia control panel for stereo settings you can change the default 'depth' value (which is really low by default, and almost not 3d at all) - put it to 50% at least; also go into 'advanced setting' and enable the extra hotkeys which will allow you to adjust convergence. Then start the game of your choice, but preferably one that supports 3d well ("good", "excellent" or "3d vision ready"). You can change depth dynamically by pressing Ctrl-F3 to decrease depth, Ctrl-F4 to increase depth - you will even see a green bar appear on screen. You can change convergence (pop out) dynamically by pressing Ctrl-F5 to decrease convergence (push stuff behind the screen) and by pressing Ctrl-F6 to increase convergence (make stuff pop out of the screen).

By the way these change only work with games - movies and photos are statically fixed at what you are given, though some applications do have a 'parallax' setting that has some depth effect, but I am not entirely sure how effective it is.

Finally, 3D is not all about stuff popping out the screen - most of the 3D effect is necessarily behind the screen due to the nature of the size of the game world (though there is a technique of having everything pop out by setting depth to minimum and increasing convergence to a very high value making everything look miniature in front of you, but that can be really tough on your eyes (very cross-eyed)).

mike_ar69 thanks it's a WOW on this yes it is better now in games your right and now in heaven benchmark i set it so high i thought the swords on the boat cutr my neck off lol. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

yes movies and pics i heard they most likely are better on a 40" or above screen , maybe someone else here as ideas on the videos.

Unlike games, the depth/convergence of videos and pictures are set in stone. The player/viewer program could push the images apart more but that wouldn't really add depth, it would just push the rather flat scene further away. Getting a larger screen (or sitting closer to your existing screen) would help but, if the previews I've seen are any indication, you're just going to go from "horribly weak" to "pretty weak". Save your money and get more sweet games.

Hey I like to thank you guys kindly everything is excellent and after 5 hours and 2 weeks since i own the monitor i like to reference anyone else who uses powerdvd 12 there is one goto setting then video up on top you will see enable hardware decoding acceleration change it to enable software decoding without true theatre effects and bingo WOW 3D movies scenes really popped out like mad.................

This is a awesome monitor GAMES + 3D MOVIES

do i get a A+ for the quote on powerdvd 12 info i never known what i was doing.

Well the 3D Vision 2 glasses after i cleaned them boy did they scratch up bad nothing notice when there worn though.

You think if i call ASUS they'll replace the glasses if i mention they don't work ?

It doesn't matter - you shouldn't. YOUR the one that broke your glasses, you should take responsibility for it.

What did you clean them with, anyway?

1st i used monster LCD cleaner with a microfiber cloth and after during the day i notice looking at the glasses up at the sun light fine scratches ,then please don't laugh at me i went here http://www.ehow.com/how_4460716_remove-scratches-plastic-lenses.html i use some pledge , (there not busted or that) they seem to work but not as good as before, now i am shopping for a nvidia 3dvision 2 kit
i beleive the emitter will be better then the built in one from my monitor and never going to clean the glasses agian just blow the dust off'em....

That's only partly true.

1) Sitting FURTHER away from screen will make 3D effect look better. Problem is when you sit further away from your monitor, picture is smaller /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
2) Increasing separation WILL improve 3D effect, at a cost that everything seems more 'in screen', but with improved depth. Also another benefit is you can sit closer to screen to still have good depth perception. Downside is, less pop-out effects (if you're one into that kind of stuff).

.. getting big screen helps resolve all issue /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Yes this is right but just to add for some futher clarity. Pop-out 3D effects, use your "real" space. If you sit 2 inches away from the screen, an object can only pop-out a maximum of 2 inches. If you sit 2 feet, away, then the distance range an object occupies in your real speace is increased. This is not an adjustment you make on your monitor, PC or TV to tell it how far away you are seated. It is simply proportional. So the further away you sit, the more an object WILL extend into your living space. The trouble is, that 3D perception specifically for pop-out relies on five key attributes

1) Distance from screen to allow objects to occupy your real space
2) Size of screen to encompass your vision as much as possible, so that your brain observes the movie as the "real" world
3) Contrast ratio. Without enough contrast, the separation of objects against each other soften, and the 3D effect is reduced. Using limited sharpening adjustment can help here.
4) Brightness. Without enough brightness, like a reduced contrast ratio, the separation of objects against each other blur, and the 3D effect is reduced
5) Crosstalk/ghosting. With significant ghosting, the brain loses its perception that what it is seeing is real, and the 3D effect can be seriously compromised

This is why IMAX 3D is so effective because it provides significant screen distance AND screen size at the same time. This is near impossible to achieve at home even with a home cinema projector unless you have an absolutely massive room to put it in.

Too much popout can induce headaches though (nothing permanent, just unpleasant). So I do advise that people alter parallax/convergence adjustments slowly to avoid this. Everyone will be different and some can cope with much more negative parallax than others.
