People always have something to fuss about, if its free then the software sucks because NVIDIA isnt putting much effort into it, if its not free then NVIDIA are evil.
I have never seen any 3D or Blu ray software that isnt free.
Its 40$, if you are a gamer and own a GTX Geforce card and a 3D enabled TV you can afford the software, dont people like supporting NVIDIA or their favorite harware brand / maker anymore?

So if I get sky tv I should only be able to watch it on my tv? If I want to watch it on my phone or tablet I should pay more?
Sky don't charge as they know nobody would pay + it means more customers will use their products and services in the future. Logical no?
It's like going on a parachute jump only to be told half way down the jump you have to pay an extra £25 or your parachute won't work!
You feel like you have no choice and that creates resent in customers.
Maybe the reason why they're aren't many people using 3d is because everyone thinks its a con to have to pay nvidia twice to use their product as advertised.
They say they need money for the support etc. I've opened up a thread about black lines on ALL GAMES when SLI is enabled with 3dtv play, not one reply.
I mean if I'm going to pay for this I think a solution should be provided but I dont even get a response!
You can't charge people extra for unlocking basic functionality which is inherent by name (3D gfx card) and definition (device that renders 3d images) to the product itself.
Are the black bars in my 3dtv play bug post ever going to be fixed with all this support money we're paying out?
People have been posting about the problem (with black bars across the screen on every game played in 3D) for months and noones even said from nvidia that they will pass it on.
You have resident evil 5 which has reverse eyes in direcx10 mode.
It's fine in direct x9 apart from random cutscenes are reverse eyes. This doesn't sound like we are getting much support/testing for our money!
Dirt 3 doesn't work in 3d with 200 series gtx SLI. One lens stays on whilst the other stays off!
Who's testing this? boz eyed bob and his drunk dog?!?
I'm sorry but it's a load of old cobblers. The major TV manufacturers have just settled on a format so all new 3D tvs have a standard for 3D glasses. That means all 3D glasses will work on any 3D TV, which in turn means nvidia only have to add support for one format for every new 3D TV that is bought from now on.
Send me a 660 gtx (ahem, 680 gtx sorry) and I'll test your 3DTV play properly for free!
Is the 3d tv play license for the gfx card you have or for the person? New gfx card = new license?
I have 3 days left on my trial. Not looking good for me buying.
Support none existant, SLI 200 series cards not compatible (all games have a black line in the bottom right corner with SLI enabled)
Resident evil 5 eyes are reversed in direct x10 mode, dirt 3 doesn't work.
Then I'm expected to pay for the luxury of all this!?!
Here's my one post thread just hanging in the wind......

Gibson, I'm sorry you're having problems with the GTX295 and I agree that you're not getting much in the way of support from Nvidia.
It doesn't make it any better, but presumably part of the problem is that the 2xx series is a relatively old card (in IT terms) and Nvidia probably aren't putting any real priority on fixing those bugs.
I've had some of the issues you've had, like the RE5 bug, with my GTX470 and I don't hold out any hope that it will ever get fixed now.
It's just a fact of life that all companies will put greater resource into the newest and upcoming products.
Of course from your point of view, there's little incentive to purchase a license for the software when you're having so many problems with your hardware, but to keep hold of your sanity, the best thing you could do is sell the GTX295 and upgrade. Yes, it will cost you more money but that's the nature of PC gaming.
Having said that, if 3DTV play is advertised as being fully compatible with the 2xx series, then Nvidia should definitely fix the bugs. They can't have their cake and eat it and if they are aware of these problems then they should stop marketing 3DTV this way otherwise it's a false claim.
For what it's worth, I don't agree at all with your Sky analogy at all. Also, 3D cards have always been 3d cards ever since a 3d accelerator was first envisaged and marketed, at least a decade before you could buy a 3D TV on the high street. That doesn't mean that they inherently have any ability to connect up to a 3d tv and project a stereoscopic 3d image. There's nothing inherent about that in the name "3D gfx card". They just render internally in 3D, it's nothing to do with the output to a display device.

So why don't we have to pay for playing 2d games on a TV?
When the glasses become standardised does that mean nvidia will stop charging?
If I buy the 3dtv play license will te license still work on my system if I upgrade my gfx cards?

Good questions :-)
In my opinion, there are lots of answers to the first question, but 2d is so established it actually is a 'given' and requires no additional driver development or testing. You don't need a profile or anything. Plus all the products would be useless without the ability to output an image. You could argue that the ability to output 2d is built into the product cost, since it's something that every single purchaser requires.
2nd, I doubt it. It's got nothing to do with the glasses, it's just the additional effort required to develop and support (sore point I know) stereoscopic 3d that's the problem.
Nvidia will have to answer the last question but I hope you don't have to pay again! They way I see it, 3dtv play is a separate product and a separate bit of software so following my own logic you've already bought it.
My thoughts are that 3d is still niche and it's still an upcoming thing, so in time this will just be added to the standard feature set anyway.
Maybe to justify development internally at Nvidia (to the business) they had to charge to start the ball rolling?
I think the lack of support is quite annoying, but we're still in relatively new territory as 3d still has a way to go to be embraced by the whole IT community, including developers. Over time it will definitely become higher priority, especially once the new consoles are out and as display tech improves. It's like anything else, it's driven by demand.

Eqzitara, I tried that work around but it didn't work. Cheers for trying though.
I wouldn't apply logic to nvidia's business ethic rustyk! Givens aren't givens it seems.
They appear to be the 'Ryan air' of gfx cards.
Can anyone confirm that 3dtv play works in sli on the 580 GTX's without the blackbar in the bottom right of the screen?
If I get quad sli do I get a black bar in the bottom left corner as well?
I get a feeling there are going to be discounted 580gtx's quite soon if the rumors are correct!
I payed 390 (after MIR) for a 580 http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Superclocked-Mini-HDMI-Lifetime-015-P3-1582-AR/dp/B004BDOR6U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1332277408&sr=8-3 . Was like $470 last week, 8 days ago. I don't think they will get much cheaper.
Pretty good price since 570's are like 250 and seems to be a pretty big gap.

Haha, Quality!!! If they realised how insulting that was it might motivate them to sort out problems like this a bit quicker!
Mind you, I don't think AMD are exactly Qatar or Singapore Airlines either unfortunately....
My brother was offered a 580 for £280 but I told him to wait a month or so. I don't believe all of the the hype but I do believe that Kepler will change things in a positive way.
I can't confirm about the 580's but I've never noticed the black bar with my 470's in SLI. I don't really use 3dtv play that often though to be fair, as I usually game on my projector using 3d vision.

Just picked up a 680gtx today from overclockers.
My free 3dtv play trial ran out at midnight tonight. It took 30 mins to get to a page on nvidias site were I could buy it.
I buy it (for just short of £30) it downloads this activator and runs a installer. It then says activation completed so I put in the serial I just bought and press activate.
I was getting messages like, 'couldn't connect to server' and 'invalid serial'
Seriously, you can't buy it easily. It took 45 mins to activate it. It was so hard to buy honestly.
Got to say though, wow, amazing card. When I'm playing Alan wake in 3D on my 50" plasma in 5.1, it's gaming perfection for me!
No black bars either! Using one of my 260 GTX's for physx even though I'm convinced it does pretty much nothing!

You didn't get the point of this post. I'll try to explain it better:
On samsung 3D TVs (they all have native 240hz panel) nvidia driver doesn't let me select 1920x2205 resolution nor it let's me select 24,120 or 240 hz (only 60).
This is bad because this prevent developers to write 3d applications.
An example:
by setting 1920x2205 resolution, the TV automatically switches to 3D.
It would be easy then to make a 3d player that will show the right image at 0.0 and the left image at 0,1125 (there must be 45 black pixels between them).
Same goes with many "3d" monitors.
I think nvidia should make money by selling cards and applications not by re-enabling castrated drivers.

actually this is not true, those 240hz are post processed, it is not REAL, and that is what cause the videos on televisions to speed up and slow down and this causes a giant output lag, also that is why the 3D does not work over 60hz, to support that minimum would be a Dual-Link DVI cable, HDMI does not support anything over 60hz at 1920x1080, so basically that is why this does not work, first of all you need to transfer DATA to television what is not possible over the HDMI cable, and second, you need a real 120hz display, post process refresh rate does not work.

A Nvidia GPU will never output more than 60Hz via a HDMI input.
Consider HDMI to be a garden hose and DVI-D to be a fire hose. You'll never get the amount of water that is output by a fire hose to be output by a garden hose in the same amount of time. It simply does not have the same capacity for the same amount of volume.
Where Nvidia is short changing 3DTV Play users is by not supplying a full 1080P 3D signal that is at the limit of HDMI.
The prime example is the support offered for the Acer Passive 3D monitor vs the support offered for let's say a LG Passive 3D HDTV.
The Acer Passine Monitor gets some kind of bull**** support that is deemed "Optimized for GeForce"
Which is the same support that "EVERY" 3DTV Play user should get for their 3D HDTV.
This is what is "OUTRAGEOUS" and EVERY user of 3DTV Play should be very upset about it!

Actually, you can happily run 120hz via HDMI. The only limitation is that the current HDMI chipsets do not have the bandwidth to process a full hd 120hz signal.

Resident evil 5 eyes are reversed in direct x10 mode, dirt 3 doesn't work.
Then I'm expected to pay for the luxury of all this!?!
Here's my one post thread just hanging in the wind......
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=225280

Hope you get some joy from Nvidia though!

I don't really use 3dtv play that often though to be fair, as I usually game on my projector using 3d vision.
pm sent btw.

Just got to overclock it now!

You didn't get the point of this post. I'll try to explain it better:

actually this is not true, those 240hz are post processed, it is not REAL, and that is what cause the videos on televisions to speed up and slow down and this causes a giant output lag, also that is why the 3D does not work over 60hz, to support that minimum would be a Dual-Link DVI cable, HDMI does not support anything over 60hz at 1920x1080, so basically that is why this does not work, first of all you need to transfer DATA to television what is not possible over the HDMI cable, and second, you need a real 120hz display, post process refresh rate does not work.
