3d Vision with Asus Rog Swift and SLI (ETA for FIX)

I know there a threads about this and a bug has been filed for it. But does anyone have any idea when 3d vision will be fixed when using SLI with an asus rog swift. This has been going on for months and im getting really pissed off! The bug should have been fixed ages ago. I have 3 titan blacks just going to waste. Could someone from NVidia please give an ETA for when this will be fixed?

I am sorry but the most likely answer is Never.
Unfortunately, over the past decade, a lot of us have learned the hard way to not make purchase decisions based on nVidia's word.
Thanks for the info, I might try two way sli and see what happens, im on the latest driver and it has not worked properly I think since 347.52 any driver before this I think was fine all the ones now don't work with sli. I will give 2 way a go and report back. I also use DDU on every driver install. Its so frustrating cause I have spent ages building a water cooled pc and I have even hard modded my cards to run at 1400mhz and I went for 3 way sli just to get that little bit extra in some games. I love my rig, but its just going to absolute waste. The rog swift is another bad purchase I have made im not to happy with it at all. To be honest I will give amd a go next time round, I know everyone says the are worse but im just sick of NVidia's bullshit and releasing a driver for every new game that comes out I see as pointless. Nvidia is over priced and a waste of money. I only bought NVidia cause of 3d vision and if I cant use I may as well head over to amd and save a few $$$$

but... How does exactly a monitor interfere with SLI ? Is the G-Sync module or ??? The monitor is only a display and has/should have no power over GPU's rendering functionality... this is what puzzles me...

It is a driver issue that has not been fixed and is only apparent with this monitor, I have not tried 2 way sli tho, but I can tell you in 3 way sli only one card works when using 3d vision. I would avoid this monitor to be honest don't want to put you off, But have a read up on the inversion issue in 3d im pretty sure they all have it. Im trying to RMA mine to get another one because of inversion not sure if its going to work or not. If you are happy with your current setup keep it cause the rog swift is not that great for 3d vision imho

Yeah, you don't want to go down the Swift route, from what I've read. Here is the thread that concludes that it's an SLI problem only with Swift. I'm with you, it makes no sense, but their experiment is sound:

Yeah, that the reason I kept my 21' monitors with a 5040x1050 total resolution. Even at this resolution some games stress my cards to 99% and I can't get higher than 30fps in 3D Surround, so I am forced to either turn settings down or turn resolution down:)) Based on games I either select 1 or 2.
Even if the number of pixels (in Surround, but closer) is NOT equal to 4K I did some testing with DSR and found out that in both cases (DSR single mon or Surround) the performance impact is the approx. the same (although it looks very sweet at 4K DSR).
As good as 4K looks like, Surround beats it in my opinion and taste (one gives sharper and cleaner objects while the other enhances the immersion). Thus, the reason I was thinking about the Swifts (bigger screen size, even bigger surround screen size. Can run either one or 3 monitors setups). But, seeing the problems with SLI there is NO WAY I will be able to push the equivalent of 6 screens (3D Surround) with just one GPU.
Guess I'll wait some more :)) I waited from 2011 until now with my monitors (which I am really happy with, even if they lack the newest tech and aren't led lit) so, I guess I can wait a bit more;))

Yep, if youre going to be in the market for a new monitor regardless I would take the opportunity to give AMD another go, especially with VESA 2.0 fast approaching (G-Sync, Free-Sync will be standard and will not require proprietary tech. to work) there will be no reason not too.
When my 780 Ti's go and / or I can afford a 4k monitor in 2-3 years, I'm going AMD. They are making MONSTER cards that are reasonably priced (profit ratio is still 200-300%, but that's reasonable as far as electronics go and a far cry from the 500-700% Nvidia is making with Titan X, which should actually be the GTX 980 and priced at $550 to begin with) they don't hype of features that are discontinued and they actually are leading the industry in terms of innovation (VESA 2.0 is built off of Free-Sync, DX12 owes a lot to Mantle, AMD X-Fire cards communicate via PCIE, which is orders of magnitude faster than an SLI bridge etc.)

Interesting helifax how similar our interests seem to be on this subject. I also absolutely love the immersion of 3D Vision Surround on my 3 X 27" Acer XB270H monitors and I am very happy with my purchase that I made not long ago.
That said I have to admit that 3D Vision Surround is not my first choice when it comes to immersion. The crowned king of immersion for me is my HMZ-T3 which I normally use in games where total immersion benefits the overall experience.
Then there are games where getting sucked into the "Virtual World" is not that important. I am mainly speaking of beat'em ups like Mortal Kombat, Streetfighter, Injustice etc.
Since I appreciate not only immersion but also the best possible 3D graphics quality my Surround Setup has served me well in those games where I don't need to get sucked into the virtual world the way the HMZ does but where I totally appreciate the sheeer 3D Quality (combined of course with the very good immersion of Surround).
If I didn't knew that there is always something even better waiting around the corner I would say that I am perfectly happy with myx Surround Setup in terms of sheer 3D quality. But then it is 1080p on 27" "only". While I am perfectly fine with that from a subjective standpoint I just can't let go of this question: Which quality does 1440p 3D offer?
There are several reports here from users who already tested 1440p and they all are saying that the experience is nothing short of phenomenal and that it is very hard to go back once you have witnessed it. Interestingly these same users almost all are saying that they would rank 3D Vision Surround in 1080p still higher than the sheer 3D quality of a single 1440p monitor. In the end that was the reason I opted for Surround when I asked myself that question not long ago.
Long story cut short: I just can't let go of the question how impressive the 3D on a 1440p monitor really is. Given the fact that I already have a crowned king when it comes to total immersion (HMZ-T3) would a 1440p monitor impress me even more than my Surround Setup which I currently use mainly for those games where I am looking for sheer 3D quality . Also I was thinking if the ROG Swift (currently using the 980 so no SLI problems at the moment) could be implemented into my Surround Setup so I could use it as a single monitor in 1440p 3D or as my center monitor in non native 1080p-mode.
Since both of the questions haven't been answered yet for me I just ordered a ROG Swift to test it myself. This afternoon I will run some tests and finally see myself what 1440p 3D really means. Also I will test if it is possible to run this native 1440p monitor in 1080p 3D in a Surround Setup!

Leading on from bo3b's suggestion above, a solid option you may wish to consider is indeed 3D projector. I may be wrong but I think nowadays you can get 3D projectors compatible with 3DPlay frame packing support which give you 1080p @ 60fps 3D.
Many would agree with me when I say that a 3D projector is the most immersive experience I have ever had (I have owned multiple HMDs and 3D monitors over the years). The game world is to scale due to the huge screen, and resolution fidelity does not matter nearly as much as you are sitting at a distance; as shown by the below graph:

Also, 0 Ghosting, at least with active glasses.
Additionally, I have found that usng DSR significantly increases the fidelity of the graphics, compared to any anti-aliasing that I have ever used. Jaggies simply disappear for good without causing blurring. The difference is quite stunning for me as I run a low resolution 800p projector which DSRs to 2560x1600.
So, in effect, you can have a huge screen with a huge FOV running at an effective 3840 x 2160 @ 60fps in glorious 3D. Not as good as a true 3840 x 2160 of course, but far superior to 1080p standard.
bo3b has also pointed out in the past that because you are looking at the same view from 2 different angles in 3D vision, the effective perceived resolution is also doubled.
If space is an issue, you can buy short throw projectors. I would also recommend a high reflectivity screen such as glass bead for better brightness.
Added advantage is that movies and tv shows look awesome on the big screen. I have be running solely on a projector for the past decade, without having to use a monitor at all on the side.
It's a very different setup, but I personally believe that it is the best immersion commercially available to us, and in many ways even better than the VR HMDs on the horizon.
As a side by side personal comparison, I also have a 3D vision 17" alienware laptop. The immersion difference between the 17"@1080p and even a low resolution 200"@800p, especially with DSR is quite phenomenal. I would say that bigger in this case definitely is better. Most people I show it to are simply blown away.
Just an alternative for you to consider as experience wise, even the best monitor may not equate to the best 3D experience currently available :)

As it seems it really comes down to personal preference. I had several 3D projectors with a huge screen running prior to the Sony HMZ but while it was a great experience I rank my HMZ way higher in terms of total immersion. For me it combines the best of different worlds. It has the popping colors and the sharpness of a monitor while giving you the total immersion because your eyes are so close to the screens (2x 720p in case of the HMZ - ZERO ghosting of course because every eye gets his own picture). Still the scrren seems HUGE like a projector screen but with the HMZ there is nothing that separates you from the "virtual world" no distance between you and all that is happening on the screen. So with the HMZ I feel being part of the virtual world everytime and while the upcoming VR-HMDs may even add to this feeling with an even greater field of view, headtracking.....it remains to be seen if they really fit for every kind of genre. Judging from my personal experience with the Oculus DK1 and DK2 this might be not the case (eqzitara stated this some months ago and I have to agree).
That is really a reason why I appreciate my HMZ even more. It has all the benefits of a real VR-Display to a certain degree (minus the headtracking) but also gives you a great experience with every game and every genre!

I'm actually starting to regret buying the ROG SWIFT now, I'm due to upgrade to SLI again as a single 980 isn't really powerful enough for 1440 3D on the most recent games, but this whole SLI bug thing is putting me off.
Surely if NVidia charged Asus the licencing fee for 3D Vision shouldn't they be taking steps to fix the bug for all the people who paid a small fortune for the privilege of using it for 3D with SLI?
I'm actually starting to regret buying the ROG SWIFT now, I'm due to upgrade to SLI again as a single 980 isn't really powerful enough for 1440 3D on the most recent games, but this whole SLI bug thing is putting me off.

but... How does exactly a monitor interfere with SLI ? Is the G-Sync module or ??? The monitor is only a display and has/should have no power over GPU's rendering functionality... this is what puzzles me...

Yeah, you don't want to go down the Swift route, from what I've read. Here is the thread that concludes that it's an SLI problem only with Swift. I'm with you, it makes no sense, but their experiment is sound:

Also, in light of RAGEdemon's discovery of 3D Vision making things single threaded, the extra pixels in surround are going to be a serious problem I'd expect. If you really want bigger screens, might be time to try a 3 projector system.

Yeah, that the reason I kept my 21' monitors with a 5040x1050 total resolution. Even at this resolution some games stress my cards to 99% and I can't get higher than 30fps in 3D Surround, so I am forced to either turn settings down or turn resolution down:)) Based on games I either select 1 or 2.
Even if the number of pixels (in Surround, but closer) is NOT equal to 4K I did some testing with DSR and found out that in both cases (DSR single mon or Surround) the performance impact is the approx. the same (although it looks very sweet at 4K DSR).
As good as 4K looks like, Surround beats it in my opinion and taste (one gives sharper and cleaner objects while the other enhances the immersion). Thus, the reason I was thinking about the Swifts (bigger screen size, even bigger surround screen size. Can run either one or 3 monitors setups). But, seeing the problems with SLI there is NO WAY I will be able to push the equivalent of 6 screens (3D Surround) with just one GPU.
Guess I'll wait some more :)) I waited from 2011 until now with my monitors (which I am really happy with, even if they lack the newest tech and aren't led lit) so, I guess I can wait a bit more;))

Interesting helifax how similar our interests seem to be on this subject. I also absolutely love the immersion of 3D Vision Surround on my 3 X 27" Acer XB270H monitors and I am very happy with my purchase that I made not long ago.
That said I have to admit that 3D Vision Surround is not my first choice when it comes to immersion. The crowned king of immersion for me is my HMZ-T3 which I normally use in games where total immersion benefits the overall experience.
Then there are games where getting sucked into the "Virtual World" is not that important. I am mainly speaking of beat'em ups like Mortal Kombat, Streetfighter, Injustice etc.
Since I appreciate not only immersion but also the best possible 3D graphics quality my Surround Setup has served me well in those games where I don't need to get sucked into the virtual world the way the HMZ does but where I totally appreciate the sheeer 3D Quality (combined of course with the very good immersion of Surround).
If I didn't knew that there is always something even better waiting around the corner I would say that I am perfectly happy with myx Surround Setup in terms of sheer 3D quality. But then it is 1080p on 27" "only". While I am perfectly fine with that from a subjective standpoint I just can't let go of this question: Which quality does 1440p 3D offer?
There are several reports here from users who already tested 1440p and they all are saying that the experience is nothing short of phenomenal and that it is very hard to go back once you have witnessed it. Interestingly these same users almost all are saying that they would rank 3D Vision Surround in 1080p still higher than the sheer 3D quality of a single 1440p monitor. In the end that was the reason I opted for Surround when I asked myself that question not long ago.
Long story cut short: I just can't let go of the question how impressive the 3D on a 1440p monitor really is. Given the fact that I already have a crowned king when it comes to total immersion (HMZ-T3) would a 1440p monitor impress me even more than my Surround Setup which I currently use mainly for those games where I am looking for sheer 3D quality . Also I was thinking if the ROG Swift (currently using the 980 so no SLI problems at the moment) could be implemented into my Surround Setup so I could use it as a single monitor in 1440p 3D or as my center monitor in non native 1080p-mode.
Since both of the questions haven't been answered yet for me I just ordered a ROG Swift to test it myself. This afternoon I will run some tests and finally see myself what 1440p 3D really means. Also I will test if it is possible to run this native 1440p monitor in 1080p 3D in a Surround Setup!
Many would agree with me when I say that a 3D projector is the most immersive experience I have ever had (I have owned multiple HMDs and 3D monitors over the years). The game world is to scale due to the huge screen, and resolution fidelity does not matter nearly as much as you are sitting at a distance; as shown by the below graph:
Also, 0 Ghosting, at least with active glasses.
Additionally, I have found that usng DSR significantly increases the fidelity of the graphics, compared to any anti-aliasing that I have ever used. Jaggies simply disappear for good without causing blurring. The difference is quite stunning for me as I run a low resolution 800p projector which DSRs to 2560x1600.
So, in effect, you can have a huge screen with a huge FOV running at an effective 3840 x 2160 @ 60fps in glorious 3D. Not as good as a true 3840 x 2160 of course, but far superior to 1080p standard.
bo3b has also pointed out in the past that because you are looking at the same view from 2 different angles in 3D vision, the effective perceived resolution is also doubled.
If space is an issue, you can buy short throw projectors. I would also recommend a high reflectivity screen such as glass bead for better brightness.
Added advantage is that movies and tv shows look awesome on the big screen. I have be running solely on a projector for the past decade, without having to use a monitor at all on the side.
It's a very different setup, but I personally believe that it is the best immersion commercially available to us, and in many ways even better than the VR HMDs on the horizon.
As a side by side personal comparison, I also have a 3D vision 17" alienware laptop. The immersion difference between the 17"@1080p and even a low resolution 200"@800p, especially with DSR is quite phenomenal. I would say that bigger in this case definitely is better. Most people I show it to are simply blown away.
Just an alternative for you to consider as experience wise, even the best monitor may not equate to the best 3D experience currently available :)
