Hey all I have been looking to get a 3D monitor and have two options, the Alienware Optx AW2310 or the Acer GD245HQ, both look stylish and both are about the same size but the real question is which one has the better performance? Which one would you suggest? Thanks : )

Reviews gave the alienware top scores because of a better stand and usb ports, they had no choice but to call it better for this reason, but they also stated that the acer is just as good as far as screen is concerned, i opted to get the acer and will have to say i am very pleased, saved 150ish (369 on newegg as opposed to 499 for the alienware) i have a p6t deluxe mobo, i have like 4 extra usb ports, so i didnt feel i needed to pay 150 for usb ports and a better stand.
I also purchased my 3d vision kit for 174.00 at newegg, came with avatar.
In short, if your into saving some cash the acer is a great choice and the reviews back that up.
I first bought the samsung 120hz monitor a week before these came out, returned it cause the reviews for the new monitors stated they were so much better, in comparison the acer blows that screen away.

Someone reported that the AW2310 is now at Rev A01, yet we don't know what have changed.

They are slightly different panels. Many reviews where people have used the two side by side state that the Acer is better in 3D. It has slightly less ghosting. However, the reviews also found that for non 3D use the Alienware was slightly better. Produced slightly clearer text and slightly better colors. I have used the two literally side by side and I found this to be true. I like the Alienware better personally because I don’t just game in 3D, I also game competitively and 3D is a no no for that. At the end of the day, however, the differences in image quality between the two panels is very very little but they are different.

After having my no frills Viewsonic 3D monitor that lacked the ability to adjust the screen hardly I was happy to get the Alienware and have the ability to adjust the monitor physically to my tastes. That was worth the increased cost to me, and I actually got the monitor from Dell when it was 10% off.

from tomshardware acer vs alienware review
These real-world tests proved what the prior tests showed: that the video quality varies on both, but that neither is actually better than the other. Acer’s display has better light and dark contrast while Alienware’s provides truer color. While this appears to make the monitors “even,†the human eye can track the differences between lights and darks much better than colors—this makes Acer’s display appear better when comparing the two side by side. And because the use of lights and darks are much more prevalent in all forms of visual media than color is, the general video quality
on the Acer display is better. Acer gets a 9 and Alienware gets an 8.

First, I have caught Tom's making misinformed statements more than once. They are just people like us. Second, that is one review. I used them side by side and did not find that to be the case. You can't use one testimonial or review and make a judgement off that. Either expereince it for yourself and make your own judgement or check a lot of reviews and then make a decision yourself. There are MANY real world users that say exactly what I said, on these forums and in reviews. This I why will continue to tell people that the general consens us the Alienware is just ever so slightly (and I do mean slightly, so much so that I would wager many people wouldnt be able to tell you which is truly better one way or the other) better than the Acer in all aspects except 3D, because that is in fact the general consensus.
Something to remember is that we all do not percieve things the same way. Obviously we are all similar, for the most part, but not exactly the same. Also to conisder is the viewing environment. Was the review run in an environment (lighting in the room and color of lighting in the room being the key) that is representative of the environment you will use it in. This kind of information is rarely provided so your best bet is to compile the findings from many different areas.

I own a Samsung 2233 (along with Dell 3008FPW & Acer H5360)
The Samsung 2233 sits gathering dust, I use the dell 30" for most of my gaming / work and the projector for racing sim's
I wouldn't mind having a 3D Surround setup, so decided to buy a GD245hq to see for myself what the quality of the screen was like..
If it was good, then another two would follow.. ( wish I had the space for 3 projectors though)
I have to say, my personal opinion is that this screen is a waste of money, contrary to what others say I can not see any difference between the acer and the Samsung in terms of ghosting / double images or whatever the correct terminology is, they are both as bad as each other.
The H5360 is absolutely perfect, Its just a shame its only 720p
If you think its an upgrade from the samsung, you will be disappointed ! But hey.. that's my opinion.
Needless to say, the Acer wont be staying, I certainly wont be buying two more and don't think its going to be worth trying the alienware either, since reviews put them on a very similar level 3d wise.

I cant help but point out that Eliasm's post is bias. He quoted only the portion that states the Acer is better. He left out this portion about color quality:
Alienware’s OptX did a very good job of representing the true color in nearly every case, although the purples had a slight blue tinge. The Acer display had a few more problematic colors, where some greys had a greenish tint, and some colors, like orange and blue, weren’t as vibrant as Alienware’s. Still, the overall color quality on both proved very good on both monitors. Here, we give the Acer a 7 and the Alienware a 10.
Quote from the review:
Our conclusion: if you want the best, go with the Alienware OptX AW2310. The extra ports, available swivel and tilt, touch-sensitive buttons, and sleek design will make any desk purr with satisfaction. If, however, you’re more frugal and don’t need the extra toys, Acer’s GD235HZ is more than an excellent choice. No matter what choice you make, you will absolutely improve the quality of your 3D gaming experience.

The critical difference between Acer’s GD235HZ and Alienware’s OptX AW2310 is the price. Acer offers no special features in its 3D display for $400, while Alienware includes a slew of amenities with the same capabilities for $500. Considering our subjective, yet unbiased human benchmarks, Alienware rules supreme, although it is bested by the competition when soft shadows and dark contrast are thrown into the mix.
Regardless of your ultimate choice, know that Alienware really tries to make you feel like you get your money’s worth. The design is stunning; sleek and humble on the outside and roaring on the inside. Acer, alternatively, takes the minimalist approach yet still manages to perform incredibly well.
In short, if your into saving some cash the acer is a great choice and the reviews back that up.
I first bought the samsung 120hz monitor a week before these came out, returned it cause the reviews for the new monitors stated they were so much better, in comparison the acer blows that screen away.

Why is the Acer better at 3D? It might be down to the overdrive, which reduces the ghosting. But overall the Alienware is a really really respectable 2D monitor and a good 3D one (better than the original Samsung).

I guess I should have known better..
