Yes frustrating.

Just trying to put together bit of info I've learned along the way, dice changed something in their software ( called the "client" ? ) now it seems it's enabled with the 3d,
Maybe nvidia just have to play catchup -now that they can re-callerbrat drivers to match/suit the game changes thus unlocking gpu performance.

That's the way I'm seeing it anyway, I do hope it's the case ( as it explains everything lol ) & a new driver (that sorts it out) follows sharpish .

Re.gtx 580's not that I use many games/sims etc just mainly iracing sim / rfactor a bit of medal of honour & bf2 and I've been very impressed with the kit

I always run in 3d vision tripple screen (surround), this bf3 is the 1st time I've encountered strange performance problems that don't really make sense thus coming to the conclusion it's a software/driver issue

Be nice if Andrew/nvidia could give us a quick update on this forum as to state of play with drivers / performance etc

No, I alt-tabbed to take the screenshot of Afterburner so it drops to 2D, you can clearly see the point I alt-tabbed and prior to that the FPS are 40-60 in 3D, not the 100+ it would be if it were 2D like it shows while windowed. Like I said, I have no problems with GPU usage in 3D being 85+%, maybe check your own rig config to see where the problem lies.

Acer P5390 (30%ish brighter than H5360) projected onto a huge white wall.. :) lots & lots of fun... Just can't wait for 1080P Projectors, then it will rock just that little bit more.

As I stated earlier I have an Acer H5360 projector, a 580 graphics card and a I7 overclocked CPU. i have set the resolution to 1280x720 120hz but I keep getting the "Attempt to run" red error message. It does render in 3d but the mouse lag imakes the game unplayable. Any ideas? I am running the latest beta drivers

@woody I have the same pj make sure windows and ncp are set to 720p 120hrz.

Yer not quite sure where the problem lies within my hardware/software. I'm still lead to believe the issue is with the nvidia drivers, as in 2d my gpu usage in heaven, bf3, crysis 2, etc is 99% on both cards. I ran heaven benchmark for 30 min yesterday for stability purposes and not a hiccup. Gpu usage did not flinch. The problem while in 3d mode is the usage keeps fluctuating causing the fps to drop from 60 down to as low as 30.

Take batman city for example, I'm running all max with 16q & high physx (dx9) and its rock solid 60 fps with 65% gpu usage. However when a physx intensive scene comes up, instead of gpu usage going up to 80-90% it stays at 65% and as a result my fps suffer.

I'm stumped, maybe Andrew can share his thoughts? Be interested to see what there findings are with SLI gpu usage in 3d.... Or can anyone else out there using SLI 580s share there gpu usage in bf3 playing mp??

Yeah again this is why its important to be as detailed about your problems as possible and make sure to differentiate between games.

Batman Arkham City problems you describe are not unexpected either, same with any previous game with intensive GPU PhysX (Arkham Asylum, Mafia 2, Alice) and moderately expensive graphics requirements. The problem with PhysX intensive scenes is that they can require significant GPU time to process the PhysX calculations but the PhysX kernel can only run on a single GPU. In SLI, this means that any GPU time spent for PhysX directly cuts into potential GPU time for graphics also and the impact is mirrored on both GPUs effectively cutting and limiting performance for graphics. This is further exacerbated in 3D where you often need that extra GPU overhead because each frame is rendered 2x, but you may only be getting about half the rendering power for graphics in PhysX intensive scenes.

So for example, if a PhysX intensive scene is able to fully use ~50% of your GTX 580's cycles, that leaves only 50% of the rest of your 580's cycles for rendering, effectively cutting your GPU performance in half. There's also the issue of context switching and multiple concurrent kernels sharing GPU time; while Fermi boasted much better context switching speeds compared to Tesla, there's still inefficiencies and lost cycles as a result.

Best solution is to get a moderate GPU dedicated to PhysX; I know in some previous user benchmarks, people saw good results and improvements even up to a GTX 285 dedicated to PhysX with faster 400 or 500 series cards in SLI. A cheap alternative would be a GTX 450/460 or 550/560 class card. Another alternative is to dedicate one GPU to PhysX and one GPU to graphics. I did this for Mafia 2 and found it generally resulted in better results for me in 2D, in 3D however it was still better to use SLI. For Arkham City and Alice, I will probably end up putting my spare GTX 280 in as a dedicated PhysX PPU while playing through them.

As for BF3, again not sure as I don't have that problem, maybe take a screenshot of Afterburner to help see what the problem is. If you're having problems with a specific map it may be view/draw distance or VRAM issues holding back performance and limiting GPU usage.

Gosh, been taking a look through the EA bf3 forums & some unofficial bf3 forums , seems pretty much everyone is not happy about the recent patch

My machine runs bf3 fairly stable, not crashes etc ( sometimes fails to go into selected server ) but performance is dire

I wonder if in 6 months time bf3 will be looked upon as a disaster ? Hope not bf2 was an ongoing success don't remember any performance issues etc & it was ahead of its time then.



They got the 3d enabled thank goodness, let's hope fixes/optimisations come quickly ( from drivers nvidia & bf3 updates ) I'm hoping to actually enjoying playing this game at some point on my state of the art pc that cost a total fortune to build ( sob sob )

I can see your using gtx570's.
....think the problems are related to certain graphics cards the gtx580 for instance ( which is what I use. X2 for 3d surround )
I've tried pretty much all resolutions ( even single screen ones! ) and low settings ( with switching off the graphical options that could be switch they'd off)
My pc runs everything else trouble free high settings etc
