I seriously doubt that the lensflares are going to see a proper fix. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

Technically lens flares shouldn't even be in 3d, should they? I certainly don't have lens flares on my eyes (but hey, 3d movies cheat as well in that regard, so who cares?)

It looks like a text file, but you can only make changes that do not change the size or position of items.
eg you can change 255 to 000 or 100, but you cannot change true to false as the length of the item would change.
Also, you need to use something like notepad ++ or similiar that does not change the CRLF type.
I have attached a script that uses ruby to re-calculate the file 'headers' if you want to get more funky.
You will need to download ruby to use it of course. (free)
