3D Indicator Light Not Working Can't setup 3D Vision on VG278H
I just bought the VG278H today, unpacked it all with a smile on my face, and was then faced with tremendous problems. First, the monitor takes 60-120 seconds to turn on after windows boot (in this time, all buttons are unresponsive), then I couldn't get the drivers installed from the CD. So I used the drivers from the Nvidia website.

Once they installed I continued to setup the 3D. First I charged the glasses 3 hours like it said. From the Nvidia control panel I entered 3D setup; turned on the glasses, looked through the lenses... nothing. Saw both images the same. Then I noticed that the 3D light indicator on the monitor wasn't on. I emailed tech support and they insisted that I reinstall the drivers from the site... when I updated via the internet, those drivers didn't work either (I did a custom clean install) so I tried to uninstall all of them, reboot and try the legacy drivers. Starting from the oldest one, working up to the latest Beta. Nothing worked.

I check the status of the IR emitter via the monitors UI... status: ok.

I don't know if I can find the VG278 Series installation software online... perhaps someone could link me?

A couple things I can think of:

1. What video card are you using? It has to meet the requirements as seen here (check the other minimum requirements while you are there):

2. Are you using the supplied dual DVI cable? It won't work in 3D with anything else, including HDMI and VGA.

3. I am not sure what video drivers you ended up using, but if your video card and system met the requirement from above, download the latest beta drivers, which work just fine with 3D Vision. Currently those are 290.53.

4. Uninstall whatever monitor is currently installed on your PC in case it still thinks you have your old one maybe and reboot. My PC registered it properly without having to install any file for it. It should be listed under Control Panel>System>Device Manager. For what it's worth, device manager still lists mine as generic PnP but when I go to the adjust resolution under my display in the control panel, it shows it as Asus VG278. please note that I am Windows 7 and some of the wording might be different on other operating systems.

2. I'm using the DL-DVI provided. My monitor displays at 120Hz and shows up as 120Hz in BF3 as well.

3. I have the latest beta driver.

4. I only have the VG278H plugged in... listed as Generic as well. Don't think any other drivers or software were installed from my old monitors. I even uninstalled the drivers for the generic and let Windows 7 update by itself.

The emitter in the monitor might not be working. I think you can use one of the emitters from the 3D Vision 1 kits in place of the one in the monitor. If you know anyone that has a kit that is willing to let you try theirs that might be a shot but if you are like me, I don't know anyone nearby that is using 3D Vision.

The only other thing I can suggest trying is to re-run the NVIRUSB.exe file that is located in "C:\NVIDIA\USB Driver\NvIRUSB.exe" and then run "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA StereoUSB Driver\setup.exe" after that. I am thinking maybe this did not install properly for whatever reason during the driver install.

Since Nvidia no longer has separate 3D Vision drivers there is no way to download and install just the 3D Vision controller driver. The files I link to above are on my PC but I can't say for sure that those still install that way with the newer drivers. If they do, it's worth a shot.

I don't even have that file in that directory... so I'm thinking this IR emitter is shot. I'll RMA the monitor.

When you installed the drivers, did you choose the custom option and make sure the 3D Vision Controller Driver was checked on along with the other options? If you did, you are probably right about having to RMA it /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sad:' />

I did the custom clean install. And I also tried uninstalling separately.

Do you know why the monitor would be taking 1-2 minutes to turn on?

That's definitely not normal - it takes mine about 4-5 seconds to show the ASUS logo and another 4-5 seconds to turn on fully.

That's definitely not normal - it takes mine about 4-5 seconds to show the ASUS logo and another 4-5 seconds to turn on fully.

Check the Nvidia Control Panel.

Stereoscopic 3D menu item. (if you don't have it, it's not been installed and you will have to reinstall the driver again and do a manual rather than automatic install so you can select the 3D driver.)

Make sure it's enabled, (check box ticked).
Make sure "Hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts" is not checked. This will put all 3D games into automatic 3D mode when they start.
the combo box, "Select when display is in 3D mode": I usually have it on "Only while full-screen 3D programs run." This is because it won't display any 3D while the 2D desktop is showing.

Hit the test button, select 120Hz and then launch the app you should see a Nvidia demo running with the logo and name in 3D moving about on the screen.

The keyboard shortcuts override the automatic on/off. I use Ctrl+Alt+10 to switch 3D on and off since it doesn't conflict with anything, the default opens a new tab in Firefox if you are viewing a 3D web page and want to turn it on and off.

If you encounter the following problem on your 120Hz monitor VG278 with 3D Vision: built in 3D IR emitter not starting (green led light does not lit) Do try this odd but possible solution (that worked for me): while your PC is turned on, keep the DVI-cable connected with your monitor, but disconnect the powercable of your monitor for about 20 seconds. Then connect the powercable to your monitor. Start the Nvidia testapp to test. I stumbled upon this solution on another forum and since I was desperatly seeking for a solution, I gave it a try. And it worked. Thats why I wanted to post the solution here, to help out other desperate people. Hope it works for you too guys. Good luck.

I use another method. 1. launch 3d test or 3d game 2. turn-off monitor by power button 3. press and hold menu button for 20-25 sec 4. turn-on monitor 5. release menu button
