Thanks for the technical explanation, but what about the graphics quality differences, ghosting and flickering, is there any difference between frame packing and page flipping mode???? I mean in your opinion when playing games can you tell any difference in 3D quality between those 2 modes??? That information would be awesome...

Both is correct, but current HDTVs do not support 1080p@60Hz frame packing, only 24Hz. This was just used for explanation. Of course, once HDTVs start to support this mode, all others are obsolete for gaming (if the graphics card can handle this resolution in 3D with sufficient frame rate).

I do not believe that side-by-side brings any advantage over frame packing. But you can check this out yourself with the iZ3D stereo driver, which supports also this mode. It comes with 30 days free trial.

So you get my point? I'm not suggesting that, I don't want to be stuck with 24hz for FULL HD quality either, but I was just saying SBS is a more popular 3D layout, but I would prefer checkerboard in favor of having only frame packing 24hz.

I can't get any of this to work. All this crap costs so much money and I have to install a hacked .inf file which will end up with a red message that you can't turn off without actually building your own electronic device? Your average, above average, and above that computer users can't do this, this is crap.

Regardless, after the .inf patch I tried to do checkboard and got the red message of course, but couldn't figure out how to select checkboard on my TV anyways. Yea I see it, but its grayed out. You said to select it first or something but that didn't make sense to me, it seems to be grayed out regardless of when I enter the samsung menu. The same for the page flipping method, I choose the generic CRT, load it up, see the double image on screen but when trying to turn the page flipping setting on the samsung it's gray.

Also a unique problem for me, or at least I haven't been able to find anything else about it. When using the 3dplay @ 1280x720 I can't get just cause 2 to run, also RE5 and lost planet 2 will only work when I choose the directx 9 launch of them, the directx 10/11 never goes to 3d. Arkham asylum and trine have worked along with dragon age origins and borderlands. Why wont the dx10/11 versions of RE5 and LP2 / just cause 2 (which doesn't ask dx9/10/11) work?

Edit: After all this dismal failure, I figured I'd go back to 3dplay to be grumpy with the 720p that works on at least a couple of my games, but now I can't do this either, your .inf patch to return me to 3d play doesn't do anything, I did the same install for that as the initial one to remove 3dplay, rebooted, opened nv control panel and...still says generic DLP.

PS. lol at anything nowadays being called plug'n'play..the last thing I was able to plug'n'play was a god damned NES.

If some guy said that he was able to double the performance of his graphics card by soldering a wire from point A to point B, you'd get out your soldering iron and do it, right? Well, this mod allows you to actually play games in 3D on your Samsung TV. Without it, you can't.
To suppress the red message, build the simple 5 component circuit found on wikipedia. search "555 timer", see the astable mode schematic. target 120Hz using the formula given, or, just use 560/10K/1 microfarad for R1/R2/C. These components are available from any number of electronics houses on-line, or go to a radioshack store. Total cost is about $10 USD. I've had PM and email from several people who have done this.

To ungray out these modes you must edit the name of your HDMI1/DVI input. This input is labled 1(DVI) on the input panel of my Samsung Plasma, use only that input.
Using the samsung remote, Menu> Input> Edit Name> HDMI/DVI> DVI PC.
The .inf reset file works, but only after you reboot your computer. After reboot, you may need to reinstall 3DTV Play. Let me know if you need further help.

Most people would not. Building a circuit is way out of range for most people to think about.

I got my samsung tv this weekend. Everything I set up works, including the signal generator. The problem now is the crosstalk on the TV is absolutely terrible. It's worse than the samsung 2233RZ I originally tried everything with back in 2009.

I can't believe the state of this industry. Seriously.

Did you design your own squarewave gen, or build the generator per the schematic on wikipedia? If wikipedia, what RC values did you use? Any other comments?

I bought the signal generator from Sparkfun I mentioned before and soldered it together, then clipped, stripped, and wired up a pin header to 2.5mm TRS adapter for the emitter. The frequency of the generator can be dialed in but it functions acceptably even at the lowest frequency so that's where I left it.

Not really any other comments ... I'm super pissed right now that I have a 2000 dollar TV in my living room that performs worse than my 2233RZ ever did. There needs to be some sort of certification for quality in this industry. Apparently some ultraclear glasses by a 3rd party (they look like the nvidia glasses so probably same OEM with different IR receiver) help a lot with the crosstalk so I'm going to see how those perform before I yell at Samsung.

No, I wouldn't because my gtx 470 and quadcore have yet to find a game I need to turn a single setting down on, plus I just..wouldn't :P.

However, your help with editing the HDMI worked. I can now do the 1920x1080 @ 30 per eye, which is good enough for most, thanks a lot! It also fixed my problem not letting me run just cause 2 and the dx10/11 games, I guess cause it just thinks its a pc monitor. Could you now give me a better understanding on how to remove the .inf if I decide to since I was already unable to? I already have your other .inf to go back, I just couldn't get it to work. Please, don't say the crosstalk issues you're having are the 3D TV to blem. It's not, it's how Nvidia drivers, IZ3D or Tridef works with some games in these 3D TV's, it's definatelly not a very good support. 3D Vision will always be better than 3DTV Play, cause it was made for that, 3DTV Play is an alternative so it will never be as good, the 3D support won't I guarantee you. If yoy watch a bluray3D, most of them are completely crosstalk free and the image quality is superb, you can't compare a Samsung 2233RZ to a LED or Plasma 3D TV, just because some games look better in those 120hz display. Watch a 3D movie in your Samsung 2233RZ, and then watch the same movie in a LED or Plasma 3D Ready TV, I'm sure you feel like throwing your 120hz display in the garbage.

MY conclusion is: The 3D quality of any Plasma or LED, Plasma is better overall, is way better than any 120hz display in the market, and I mean crosstalk, ghosting and other anomalies, better by a long shot. If some game doesn't look to good in the big screen due to excessive crosstalk issues and you're using 3DTV Play or Tridef or IZ3D, it's the driver support for the game that is not very good and this happens to a lot of games. 3D games will always look better in those 120hz display, I still don't know why, maybe someone can talk about this in this thread. Please, don't say the crosstalk issues you're having are the 3D TV to blem.
