No, I don't think it works anymore. As far as I can tell, only DirectX8 and above is supported (although the compatibility list has a bunch of games left over from the XP driver that aren't actually supported).

I am not sure about the original but, I've been working on Half-Life 2 adding full head tracking and weapon tracking in preparation for the Oculus Rift dev kit launch. Once the official rift apis are available I'll integrate them, giving people ~70 hours of content (this also works for episode 1 & 2, the lost coast and tons of user generated maps, etc) that they can use to test out their Rift.
I'm using two hillcrest trackers (the same ones that John Carmack used for the Doom 3 BFG demos of the early oculus rift prototype). I've been playing with my modified HMZ-T1 but others have played it on DIY rifts with the vireio stereo/warp drivers.
I'm currently testing different controllers, in the video I'm using a "top shot elite" that is effectively a wireless xbox 360 controller, and used electrical tape to hold the hillcrest tracker on the top.

Follow the instructions as per GenericBeing's response. Also, you can change resolution and increase FOV in cfg file
vid_config_x "1920"
vid_config_y "1080"
default_fov "106.270273206"
This is my settings using GLDirect. You drop "opengl32.dll" into your Half Life folder, works like a charm. I can also attest that the add ons Blue Shift and Opposing Force work fine in 3D. You can also adjust Depth and Convergence, looks pretty good in 3D.
