Hi, What use in 3D has vsync (other than what it normally does in games)
Some says 3D doesn't work with vsync off, but i always have vsync turned off.
Are there any difference regarding 3D?

Correct Duppsko, there is no difference in 3D with Vsync on/off (other than the well established normal tradeoff you refer to). People who say 3D doesn't work are apparently refering to bogus info on the 3D Vision FAQ.

Vsync is always enabled with 3D on.

In the dozen or so games I've played in 3D, Vsync has always been disabled if set that way in the game's video options. One important exception is Homefront, Vsync appears to be stuck on, but only in 3D. This causes the framerate to be stuck at exactly 30 fps virtually always which ruins the game play. Can you find out why this problem is unique to Homefront?

If Vsync is on, then maximum theoretical rendered framerate is 60 Hz, the fixed frequency of Vsync. When I play a game in 3D, Afterburner reports well over 60 proving the GPU is not synchronized to Vsync. So either Afterburner is misreporting framerate, or Vsync is off.

Hi
A couple of questions:
- Afterburner isnt on our supported list so are you sure 3D is working? http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-3d-games.html
- How are you measuring FPS?

I can assure you Vsync needs to be on in 3D mode.

Afterburner isn't a game, it's a util that measures and reports framerate (fps). I also used Fraps, a different util that does framerate reporting. Both show over 200 fps implying that Vsync is disabled in 3D.
Conceiveably, these tools may not work right in 3d, so I did a fool-proof independent test that proves conclusively whether or not Vsync is forced enabled in 3D: A tell-tale artifact of Vsync disabled is a 'tearing' of the screen. This presents as a 'jaggedness' of a vertical line when pannng back and forth. With Vsync enabled, the same line will be intact, no jaggedness. This jaggy artifact is due to updates applied to the visible framebuffer (as opposed to updates only to the back, non-visible buffer).
I performed this test to my current game, Half-Life episode one. In 3D mode, this jaggy artifact is obvious when Vsync is disabled in-game. With Vsync enabled, the artifact is non-existent proving conclusively that Vsync is disabled/enabled according to in-game setting in 3D, there is no driver override happening.
Can you report this finding to your tech people and get their response? I'm thinking that the driver override you refer to happens in Frame Packing mode and not in checkerboard.
A resolution of this misunderstanding may be the key to fixing Homefront, thereby making it playable in 3D.

Ok I think i misunderstood what you were asking. VSync is required for HDMI 1.4 frame packed and 3D Vision 120Hz. Checkerboard format is different and you can disable it.

With Vsync enabled, framerate is locked at 30 fps, not playable. Since all other games work in CB mode Vsync disabled, could you have one of your staff look into why Vsync is stuck enabled in Homefront?
Thanks!

I'm playing Homefront in 3D checkerboard mode with exactly one mod, my .inf EDID override. Vsync is always enabled, the in-game Vsync control can't disable Vsync. This bug is unique to Homefront, doesn't happen any other game. I can't test it without my .inf mod because my .inf is necessary for CB mode. Since this bug doesn't occur in 2D, it's reasonable to think that the bug is a function of the 3D Vision driver. I'm using driver 267.24, I'm set up under 3D Vision, not 3DTV Play, please look into this.

Our driver forces overrides Vsync in-game settings and always forced Vsync on. It does not matter what the game's menu says.
