3D Vision is not offered to install
I have GTX 295 card and I wanted to update drivers. Drivers for card and ir emitter are installed, but 3d vision software not and I cannot make it install (it is not offered in the list custom install shows). On nvidia pages gtx 295 is not mentioned anymore as 3d vision card. Was it discontinued or what am I doing wrong?

Umm...probably because you are using Windows Vista? starting with 313, Vista was dropped.

Thanks for info, indeed I have Windows Vista. Nvidia wasted my time, because this information should be presented in the installer. It would be nice from Nvidia to publish rationale on which discontinuation is based. If it is end of mainstream support from Microsoft for Windows Vista, one asks question why 3D vision is discontinued and geforce drivers not. This and fact that 3d profiles are hardcoded in driver and it is not possible to configure them manually as it was possible before makes deadly vendor lock in with lack of support. Next month I am planning to spend a lot of cash on new rig, I wanted also Shield but with this Nvidia attitude I will rather skip Shield and also will take a look at AMD offerings for GPUs. What would be best alternative for GTX 780 from AMD?

If you want 3d, you don't want to go with AMD.

Yeah, AMD requires Tridef, which I understand is not as good an experience. To match a 780, you'd need their top card 7970. But, you'd actually need Crossfire, and the micro-stutter problem makes that a non-starter in my book. You can still change profiles manually, that hasn't changed. Use NVidia Inspector, and follow the Helix mod pages for the best profiles and fixes. You can't go past the last supported driver though, and that does indeed suck. No idea why they killed Vista support, it's really not at all different at the driver level. Steam survey says there are still 4% of the users with Vista, which I'd think would be enough to justify the tiny expense of support.

I will not probably want 3D anymore, I will go with 21:9 this time. There has been too many annoyances with Nvidia and 3D monitors are not very good for other tasks. Unfortunately it looks like I will have to buy 780 because 7970 is too old, which is not good situation because I have noticed that recently quality of Nvidia software and support decreased. And I will have to buy Windows 8 because Windows 7 mainstream support ends 1/2015 and it looks like Nvidia does not support OS after Microsoft mainstream support ends.
