I am attempting a 3D setup with 2 [url="http://www.lumenlab.com/eVo"]http://www.lumenlab.com/eVo[/url] projectors. They use a single LCD polarized at 45°, so I will be mounting them to a board together and one of them will be mirrored to flip the polarization 90°
I am going to be using a 7900GS with OC to 650mhz and 0.25voltmod (I love it, only $120 on eBay, a real EVGA one with accessories too:))
I don't hold with shutterglasses when you can use cheapo Polarizing glasses that can get trashed and you won't care, plus I never got rid of the ghosting with my eDimensionals, and they would invert timing as they lost the sync signal, Aaagh!!!

I am looking forward to Mario64 or N64 Smash bros. in 3D :), that way 4 people can play at once in 3D. Or Serious Sam SE and NFS:3 Hot Pursuit (why aren't more PC games multiplayer, should be a no-brainer with all the HTPC's and steadily increasing display sizes/resolutions, not to mention that dual-output cards are a standard nowadays)
Another plan is to find some 3D movies and play those.
Anyway, any thoughts or recommendations? I might need a 512mb 7900 series card if this works out well ;), they should be pretty cheap here in a few months if the 8600 Ultra and some working drivers ever come out, the 7900s will plummet in price. So sad that real 3D isn't more popular.

the simpliest way to home 3D stereo is 1 DLP projector and shutterglasses (e.dim wired), I use this combo (have in this time 2 projectors and 2048x768 resolution in 3D stereo with matrox Dual head2Go) is awesome.
Reasons:
only 1 projector =rel cheap
no special screen needed (white wall is enough) = cheap
no special adjusting of 2 projectors in 1024x768 res.
problemless for 3D stereo at 85 Hz.
The picture is wery good.
Use benq PB 6240, good are all new DLP projectors MP 720, 721, 720p,..

I am sorry, I didn't notice that I hadn't posted: I get intense migraine headaches from 10 minutes of a standard PC screen at 60hz. I won't do shutter-glasses again.
I need the money, so I will probably be selling one or both of my screens and projectors. I couldn't afford a DepthQ, maybe one of these days, but not for a while.
If the setup below works out I had better spend the money on a 512mb 7900 series that will do stereoscopic, I don't think my 256mb card will cut it in Oblivion @ dual 1280x1024, or some more system RAM, I think 2GB is recommended, and at that point I should switch to AM2 and get a fast AM2 Processor because DDR2 is cheaper.
And on an aside, I have decided to make a Planar setup, it costs about $250 total.
I saw a Planar PE171 for $45 buy-it-now and shipping, broken of course, I fixed it. I realized this morning that Planar builds the 3D displays, and that my PE is the exact model they are using. So I scoured ebay and found a Hitachi JM777, a re-branded Planar PE171, and bought it too.
2x 17" 1280x1024 LCD DVI monitors: $120 on ebay.
1 piece of teleprompter glass 15'"x15" $80 on ebay (I may just get a 12"x12" for $50).
Some sort of frame to hold the monitors and glass $30
Some good polarized glasses and DVI cables: $20

It works so far, I have just jury-rigged it in place and my mirror is actually too small so one picture is considerably dimmer.
I adjusted the brightness/contrast to compensate, but it is still not good, I will be looking for another mirror that is bigger.
The Polarization from these works great :), I can hardly see any ghosting, only on super bright objects such as car headlights, even then it isn't a show-stopper, after the camera switched around so I could drive (Evolution GT demo) it was pretty good. The 3D effect was pretty strong between the front and back of my car and the other cars around as they interacted.
Tomb Raider was OK, I really need to resolve the light issue with that mirror.
Now the only problem is the resolution and the price, I could go for a DIY Lumenlab PJ, but knowing me I don't think I am going to go in for a big project like that (times 2 no less!?!), so I think I will be sticking with the planar setup once I get it going.
I am going to try some movie clips on the Stereo Player from tv3d right now.

I wonder if you could dismantle the PJ and rotate the polarizing filter on the LCD? or remove them and use external ones? It would be a pain but it seems like that would yield much better results. It would be nice if LumenLabs would sell an identical model that was polarized 90 off for just this purpose but I guess not :) If you mirror on will the Nvidia drivers reverse and image for you or does the projector do it? I havent tried the Stereo drivers in a long time since I switched from CRT to LCD..
EDIT: nevermind I just read where the drivers have these options! :)

Yes, one mirrored for LCD's.
You can strip the Polarizers and add your own oriented at any chosen angle, but Lumenlab employs a Chinese factory that will not do that.
If you use DLP then simply place the polarizing filters in front of them at the correct angle and enable a simple Dual VGA stereo mode without any mirrors needed, I think DLP may even be cheaper too.
I have gone to a Planar setup with direct-view LCDs because I can't afford High res projectors (1024x768 and up), but 1280x1024 monitors are very cheap <$200 new, less than $150 used for 17-19", and less than $100 new and ~$80 used for 15" (viewable, a 15" CRT is likely 13.5" viewable, 1024x768 resolution).
I bought 3 broken 17" displays on ebay and traded bad backlights and inverters from the one with a cracked LCD and good backlight/power supply. ~$50 each times 3, I got two working displays

Actually I tried my projectors with ordinary linear polarizing filters (Those used for cameras) and it works fine! But maybe that's not the fact regarding every projectors. I do not loose that much light either. However i have special designed filters for LCD-projectors that use the internal polarizing of the projectors. The light output using these is superior! At least 50 percent more light from the projs compared with ordinary filters. Can be found at the silverfabric in germany. But beware: Those filters costs just about the same as one projector!
Understanding polarisation is tricky.
Experiment: Using a light source and three polarizing filters.
Put one of the filters in front of the light source so the output is polarized. Put another filter in front of that. You can now study the effect when the "gitters" of the filters are turned 90° you get a (almost) block of the light. Keep the filters there!. Now: Put another filter between those polarizing filters! Voila. Now you get an interesting fenomena. The light seems to be twisted by the middle filter and you should be able to get light throughput. Twisting the middle filter also give a light on/black out ratio at 45° instead of 90 °. That's why you can be able to "twist" the polarizing from an LCD-projector. (Only works if the polarizing from the proj is either 0° or 90° since polarized glasses most often uses 45°/135°).

the simpliest way to home 3D stereo is 1 DLP projector and shutterglasses (e.dim wired), I use this combo (have in this time 2 projectors and 2048x768 resolution in 3D stereo with matrox Dual head2Go) is awesome.
Reasons:
only 1 projector =rel cheap
no special screen needed (white wall is enough) = cheap
no special adjusting of 2 projectors in 1024x768 res.
problemless for 3D stereo at 85 Hz.
The picture is wery good.
Use benq PB 6240, good are all new DLP projectors MP 720, 721, 720p,..

I am sorry, I didn't notice that I hadn't posted: I get intense migraine headaches from 10 minutes of a standard PC screen at 60hz. I won't do shutter-glasses again.
I need the money, so I will probably be selling one or both of my screens and projectors. I couldn't afford a DepthQ, maybe one of these days, but not for a while.
If the setup below works out I had better spend the money on a 512mb 7900 series that will do stereoscopic, I don't think my 256mb card will cut it in Oblivion @ dual 1280x1024, or some more system RAM, I think 2GB is recommended, and at that point I should switch to AM2 and get a fast AM2 Processor because DDR2 is cheaper.
And on an aside, I have decided to make a Planar setup, it costs about $250 total.
I saw a Planar PE171 for $45 buy-it-now and shipping, broken of course, I fixed it. I realized this morning that Planar builds the 3D displays, and that my PE is the exact model they are using. So I scoured ebay and found a Hitachi JM777, a re-branded Planar PE171, and bought it too.
2x 17" 1280x1024 LCD DVI monitors: $120 on ebay.
1 piece of teleprompter glass 15'"x15" $80 on ebay (I may just get a 12"x12" for $50).
Some sort of frame to hold the monitors and glass $30
Some good polarized glasses and DVI cables: $20
Planar expects $4,000 and doesn't even throw in a case for the same thing

It works so far, I have just jury-rigged it in place and my mirror is actually too small so one picture is considerably dimmer.
I adjusted the brightness/contrast to compensate, but it is still not good, I will be looking for another mirror that is bigger.
The Polarization from these works great :), I can hardly see any ghosting, only on super bright objects such as car headlights, even then it isn't a show-stopper, after the camera switched around so I could drive (Evolution GT demo) it was pretty good. The 3D effect was pretty strong between the front and back of my car and the other cars around as they interacted.
Tomb Raider was OK, I really need to resolve the light issue with that mirror.
Now the only problem is the resolution and the price, I could go for a DIY Lumenlab PJ, but knowing me I don't think I am going to go in for a big project like that (times 2 no less!?!), so I think I will be sticking with the planar setup once I get it going.
I am going to try some movie clips on the Stereo Player from tv3d right now.
It works so far, I have just jury-rigged it in place and my mirror is actually too small so one picture is considerably dimmer.

I wonder if you could dismantle the PJ and rotate the polarizing filter on the LCD? or remove them and use external ones? It would be a pain but it seems like that would yield much better results. It would be nice if LumenLabs would sell an identical model that was polarized 90 off for just this purpose but I guess not :) If you mirror on will the Nvidia drivers reverse and image for you or does the projector do it? I havent tried the Stereo drivers in a long time since I switched from CRT to LCD..

how do you have them set up? one PJ using a mirror? I understand that you cant place polarizing lense infront of them because LCDs are already polarized. Plus, for optimal lumen output you wouldn't want to do this if the LCDs all already polarized.. I could be wrong though!

I bought 3 broken 17" displays on ebay and traded bad backlights and inverters from the one with a cracked LCD and good backlight/power supply. ~$50 each times 3, I got two working displays

Actually I tried my projectors with ordinary linear polarizing filters (Those used for cameras) and it works fine! But maybe that's not the fact regarding every projectors. I do not loose that much light either. However i have special designed filters for LCD-projectors that use the internal polarizing of the projectors. The light output using these is superior! At least 50 percent more light from the projs compared with ordinary filters. Can be found at the silverfabric in germany. But beware: Those filters costs just about the same as one projector!

You can now study the effect when the "gitters" of the filters are turned 90° you get a (almost) block of the light. Keep the filters there!. Now: Put another filter between those polarizing filters! Voila. Now you get an interesting fenomena. The light seems to be twisted by the middle filter and you should be able to get light throughput. Twisting the middle filter also give a light on/black out ratio at 45° instead of 90 °. That's why you can be able to "twist" the polarizing from an LCD-projector. (Only works if the polarizing from the proj is either 0° or 90° since polarized glasses most often uses 45°/135°).
