Gaming and 3D Drafting - Need Card Suggestions
I'm about to upgrade my 8800 GT to a real card. It's been quite sometime since I've purchased one.

My questions is what card would be better for both?

GeForce or Quadro? If so which models and why? Does 3D Vision utilize the multi-gpu's?

It has to work in both solutions

best I can tell you is that I run Google sketch up and Autocad 09 on a GTX 285 most of the time. For both gaming and Cad type work I would think the Geforce line would be better. a quadro GPU can be super expensive and does not game well at all. While the geforce card lacks in CAD type enviroment its not as bad as the lack of gameabilty in the quadro series.

But what kind of resolution are you running CAD at? And how much power will you require? As for the 3D vision and multi gpu I have no clue. But you may also have to upgrade your power supply when you get a new GPU.

I'm wanting to display CAD in 3D Vision as well as the gaming, I wasnt sure if AUTOCAD is only supported through the Quadro line or not

If its OpenGL/Runs the 3d in a window you'll be wanting that Quadro. Geforce only gets (currently) 3D in a fullscreen D3D application.

With GeForce you are go for gaming and picture/movie watching in stereo 3D in full screen (Direct 3D mode only for games).

With Quadro you can also use Quad Buffered OpenGL - professional apps that do support stereo 3D mode (also stereo 3d in a window), but with Quadro you can as well use 3D Vision for gaming as it also supports Direct3D (you can switch between the two). Quadro has the OpenGL support built in its display drivers (needs only the USB driver for the IR Transmitter) and for D3D you still need to install the 3D Vision drivers.
