Everything outside the cockpit looks 2D. Their sbs mode is the same. I'm beginning to wonder if the rift is the same and only the cockpit is 3D. I don't know as I don't have a rift.

Just played Elite Dangerous using compatibility mode.
I dunno guys, it's my first game i checked CM mode myself, but.. I found NO 3D with this mode really o_O. It's almost the same with 2D.
If all games look the same way in CM mode.. Well, then i must say CM is completely useless sh1t

No, its Elite Dangerous useless 3D shit. Thier own sbs 3D looks useless too. Only cockpit is 3D in that native sbs mode. Absolutely everything else is 2D (even when docked in hanger). I play pCars in CM and it looks great.

I thought CM mode in DA:I looked decent as far as cm mode goes, playable and a vast improvement over 2d, but then I actually played it in true 3d and my mind was blown.

I see thanks for the info!
I tryed Elite using built-in 3D (Sony HMZ) and must admit cockpit made in descent 3D. Considering time you spend actually in your ship it's better than nothing.
I wonder if there is some way to "convert" side-by-side built-in 3D with 3D Vision? I would like to have 3D cockpit really, but playing in HMZ headset sin't an option for me

Did you do anything special to get it to work i n3D vision. For me the Launcher activates 3D vision however the game of itself never launches in 3D :(

Interesting discussion. I have a Rift DK2 and 3D Vision PJ setup. I LOVE my 3D Vision setup, and still use it, especially to watch movies. Skyrim is awesome on it. However, once the resolution is better, 3D on a PJ or monitor will be basically 3D in a window for VR. Basically, 3D Vision is a subset of VR, just time a 3D movie can also display static 2D content. No reason I couldn't play 3D Skyrim on a 30 foot screen inside of VR.
No doubt the community that initially embraced 3D Vision, and other stereo solutions before that, helped kickstart (litteraly) VR and Oculus. Myself included.
Having often showcased both my 3D Vision setup and Oculus Rift, people tend to "just get it" when they put on the Rift and are much more wowed. You feel like you are somewhere else, where as the 3D Vision setup takes more suspended belief. On my 3D PJ, I have experienced impressive immersion, feeling cold from the snows of Skyrim. But only in VR would you actaully try to catch a snowflake on your tongue.

In latest nvidia driver they turned on compatibility mode and E:D starts in it. I have just enabled advanced shortcuts and switched from compatibility mode to 3D vision with CTRL+ALT+F11.
And I have the same thing with launcher, it activates 3d vision.

It was not showing for me because I had the Oculus Rift enabled. I had to turn off the rift so I can get 3D vision loaded.
On another note is there anyone else with a RIFT and ED in here? I am trying to explain to some people on the forums over at Oculus forums that the developers have used a trick to just render the cockpit in stereoscopic 3D while leaving everything else without stereoscopic 3D rendering. This allows them to keep their framerate higher fails to provide a true stereoscopic image of the entire scene.
If anyone has similar experiences withe the rift please feel free to chime in.

I have E:D on the rift, I don't see how they can make the cockpit 3D and everything else 2D, it doesn't make sense...
You may not feel the game is as "3D" as an FPS or typical RPG because there are large volumes of empty space, due to it being a space sim, so you are missing some distance queues, but this isn't anything to do with them fudging the 3D to save rendering power, its a SBS display and each view is rendered separately.

So it looks fine to you outside of the cockpit? Remember Dues Ex human Revolution has a 3D hud and 2D scene when it was implemented by the developer.
I have tried getting close up to an object especially in the Dock and there is little to no depth in my opinion.
