3D Vision ghosting issue...
Hi everyone!

I've been playing many games in 3D, and recently Just Cause 2, and I always get ghosting whenever I put the slightest bit of depth.

I see darker ghosts of every light and flare (bright objects) when I use depth.
I also notice when I turn my head left and right, it goes away on some part of the screen.

What am I doing wrong?

Using Nvidia 3D glasses and playing in a dark room with no light but the screen (120hz Samsung 22")

Thanks,

MQ

Well if you did a little searching you would see that you are doing nothing wrong and that is just how things are. You learn to ignore it.

dlp hdtv's have no ghosting- not sure about other displays- some display technologies work better than others in 3d...

System:

Intel I7 920 overclocked to 4ghz

Asus Rampage Extreme II

2 Ge-force 480 in SLI

GTX 295 PhysX Card

12gb ddr3 2000mhz ram

Intel SSD in RAID 0

BR RW

1000w Sony surround sound

NVIDIA 3D Vision

3d displays tested:

Mitsubishi 65" DLP 3d HDTV (good old 1080p checkerboard since 2007!!!)

Panasonic VT25 (nice 2d but I returned it due to cross talk)

Acer H5360 720p on 130" screen (the best 3d)

23" Acer LCD monitor (horrible cross talk- sold it)

Samsung 65D8000

this is true. I have gamed and tested for about 20 hours now on my new 3d vision + samsung 2233rz. the ghosting will be more noticable when the colors are contrasting. For instance: a glow effect in WoW or when your headlights come on at night in burnout paradise. left 4 dead 2 and borderlands both have terrible ghosting with the water reflections. this is because the lcd is so bright, you see the high contrast through the darkened lcd lens of your glasses. persistance of vision may also play a role.

my samsung also exhibits ghosting for the entire top 15% of my screens real estate. very horrible in WoW, but not so bad in batman where everything is dark anyway, and everywhere in between. this is due to the technology also. lcds are drawn top to botton, and there is just no point where the entire screen is one frame long enough for the glasses to only be on at that moment (the picture would be even darker) so at the top of the screen you just see part of both images in both eyes.

both are called ghosting, and both are due to the nature of lcds. dlps and projectors are not subject to this problem, and either can be had for around the price of a 24" alienware 3d ready lcd. they are just much less convenient. (depending on your situation)

Also, I should be getting the Acer 23.6" 1080p lcd tomorrow. not only is a higher res and (supposedly) brighter, but it's also rated at 2ms as opposed to samsung 5ms.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I also own an Acer 120hz monitor and i can confirm you still get ghosting but i am beggining to wonder whether this is Frame related. If you run your monitor at 120hz but your card only displays at 45frames per second the ghosting in high contrast areas seams a bit worse. If i run the game on lower settings and get 60fps there seems to be less ghosting even in high contrast areas. I am wondering if the ghosting issues are more then just contrast related. I wonder if, you could run a game at the same or close to 100fps would you still have a ghosting issue? I suspect not.

I think what you really have to consider is that with e.g. Metro2033 I had virtually no ghosting at all, not on the top of the screen and not with e.g. bright lights. Which makes me think that to a large extent, it's also down to how well the engine deals with stereoscopic 3D.

1) change screen
2) if you turn head and ghost slightly disappears, then it's a glass issue too. There are parts of the lens which don't cover totally their frame-to-cover.

as someone who owns both a Viewsonic 3d monitir and a Mitsubishi 60 inch DLP 3d tv I can say with certainty that DLP has no ghosting AT ALL. The LCD does, obviously. Its actually striking when you go from the LCD to the DLP because its so good looking. I just get too lazy to drag the computer to the living room al the time.

there it is.... no ghosting at max depth right!

i still get issues with games that dont have proper 3d support- but thats a different issue- one that i think many people confuse with ghosting- im not saying you guys are not experiencing ghosting- its just kinda hard to distinguish between the two sometimes.
