New to 3D gaming
I just unpacked and installed a new monitor (Philips Cioco 3D 278G4). I also already tried to watch a movie in 3D and it works quite well (side by side, fullscreen, and monitor does the rest). However have I no idea how to get games working in 3D. I tried to search Google, and even some programs that claimed to create 3D gaming (but crashed my PC). I tried to activate the S3D settings in the Nvidia Systemsettings, but it doesn't do anything. The only thing it does is lower the resolution, or framerate (in the Display settings). Furthermore did I try to install some Nvidia 3DTV Play software, but it too fails to install. It doesn't really tell why it fails, but it looks like there is already a newer driver installed, so it does nothing. Is there some simple beginners guide how to start with 3D gaming? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the two pinned topic in the forum don't work for me. i7 4770S 8GB RAM Asus GTX 560 Ti

Bad news, unfortunately. It looks like that's a passive 3D monitor without native support for 3D Vision. You might be able to get it working though. http://3dvision-blog.com/7163-make-your-passive-3d-monitor-or-3d-hdtv-work-with-3d-vision/ If the retailer sold it to you after telling you it was suitable for 3D gaming, I'd try to take it back and exchange it for a "proper" 3D Vision monitor (or refund it, and use that to buy one). You'll have a much better experience that way. That being said, a 560 TI is going to struggle to play pretty much any newer game in 3D. You can probably play some older titles though.

I don't quite get how the active or passive 3D matters here. I tried passive before I purchased the monitor, and had no problems. I don't mind any ghosting, nor do I have problem with the lower resolution. I also prefer the lighter glass, as I already wear optical glasses. And yeah, my graphic card the the next component that I'll update, once I have the money. Minecraft, or for example Sacred 2 (just for example) would already be a blast in 3D. All I basically need is the two eyes side by side, or already interlaced, the monitor can do the rest (it works for the Oculus Rift, why not for my screen?). The pinned threats in the forums, are actually quite intriguing in this aspect, but I have no idea what is meant with Compatible Mode, or how to use it, which is why I probably fail to implement it.

Gaming in 3D, using nVidia 3D Vision, is completely different to playing a blu-ray or movie in 3D. You'll need to perform the edid override linked in that thread. Compatibility mode isn't of any relevance to you until you can get 3D Vision up and running, best to ignore it for now.
