Did any of you catch the pics of the TiatanX that melted down in the 900 series sub-forum?
He added a Hybrid Cooler, but is pretty sure that neither it nor he, is to blame.
[quote="Goobers"]It's actually been a couple of weeks since it died on me. I only just decided to dig in and see just what it was that happened... and just like the smell indicated at the time... something(s) burned.

In the following pic, you can see some residue from the thermal tape(?) across many chips and a little bit of what was melted off it...

Sorry, the next two pictures are quite blurry... :(
This one managed to either leave residue or actually deform the coating of the aluminum plate above it (inside portion of the stock shroud).

I'm not positive that's damaged, but AFAIK, that doesn't quite look right in the following pic.

And of course the GPU itself... looks fine as I expected (since it had the EVGA Hybrid mounted on it).

I don't understand this little world of gaming... 1000€ for a little piece of hardware to play with more framerate a game that is not just a "game" but a pretext to convince you to buy the hardware. Always making games to force you to buy the next thing, and the next thing always more expensive.
Ok. I think I should invent a new way to spend my time. Or maybe put my mind 10 years ago and try to believe that a good gaming is to play those games. In fact everything is relative. I still have "Severance Blade of Darkness" (a game made 15/20 years ago) installed in my computer, and supresively I like it more than any Dark Soul... it is a shame does not have 3D support, because I get 400 fps with it.
In the other hand I am playing The Witcher 3 these days trying to find why people say this game is so great. But I really can not find that fun.
Anyway, I have made a deal with muy mind, and if I can buy GTX 1070 for less than 400€ I will fall into the trap. But not even 1€ more.

Not to many take time to step out side the bubble and look in. Its not just Graphics cards..its EVERYTHING. From a car to phone to you name it. Its as if nothing is wrong with the world everything is going GREAT! Its not going great and its not getting better. If you just graduated from Collage just getting a new job.. a night mar. If you happen to be still working at that one job for lets say going on 25y awesome right? No longer can they PAY you ..match what you give.. so for on when you retire.
Search the internet on whats really going on around the world.. then watch the news on TV. They tell YOU what YOU need and why YOU really need it. You HAVE to have it..got to! Sure.. duh your in control no one makes you do spend anything. But this what you cant see is a BILLION of BILLIONS dollar buz. And they are really really good at telling you what you need.
Look into the stock market...gold and silver lets say. How long does it take to mine this. Go for it.. search on how much they have sold as to how much is really out there. As long as you dont see what they other hand is doing. And most dont care..as long as they dont know. Its not great all over the world....not preaching doom and gloom but man.. at least PREPARE for what you cant see. Always have a back up..just like your computer. annnyway lol
Not going to get the 1080. I play at around 4k 344x1444 so 1080 over my 980ti...not a huge leap for me. I will get what ever AMD/ATI comes out with. I just like having one of each

There are many hang-ups about price on the internet. I am not a huge fan of the pricing and release time-table either.
I suppose it all comes down to value. Value is different from person to person. I think we here are quite unique in that most of us are "grown-ups" into gaming. This means that although most people might not buy tech to play "games", we have disposable income which we use for our personal hobby which will give us a better 3D/VR experience. To us, the value of these cards is far more than the average youngster, or the average person for that matter, because the money will be well spent as it almost directly translates into our enjoyment and fun, and we will get good use out of it.
SLi GTX 1070s AIB partner boards with custom PCB and cooling seems like they will be a good deal. Single cards will be more than sufficient for VR, as all VR games are designed for 970s in mind; and double cards will be great for 3D Vision, as SLi has always scaled very well with 3D. Now, it'll just mean we have a better chance of attaining 1/2 times refresh rate of our displays, i.e. 60fps or 72fps etc.
I don't have much disposable income, so this would be a good deal in my eyes. Some of you have a great deal of disposable income and will be getting SLi 1080s, which is great! It's all about value to the individual.

Not sure I agree about a single 970 for VR games even to this point. 95% of them sure.
If you go to play a game that wasn't built around VR like..
Ethan Carter
Elite Dangerous
I can't really speak for future games but if a game thats not "built around vr" gets implementaion it might be a hurdle. Not to mention if you want to try Vorpx since its performance cost is a lot higher then 3d vision.
I barely played The Gallery outside of installing since I have been busy with Uncharted 4 but I know that a 970 = low setting from what I read before setting it up.

If your expecting to pay MSRP...
It seriously looks like NVIDIA told all manufactures not to show/advertise any non founders cards and that they are not to launch till X days past release.

GPUs with that kind of blower are impossible to clean without compressed air, and they are also noisy. After my reference Asus ATI 4890, I said "never again".
I will wait for GPUs with decent aftermarket coolers, and see how much they cost here in Europe. If it's more than 700€, it will be very hard to justify. GTX 980 cost 550€ at release (and months later the value of the euro fell a lot :( ).

TBH, I dont mind shitty or noisy. It just looks like it does a terrible job of cooling.
Give me an ugly card with some decent cooling and Ill pay MSRP for it.
Something tells me that for first month or two that anything decent will be around the Founder's Edition price. The fact that testers/benchers are only being given Founders [for the first time ever] kind of makes me think that the odds of finding anything decent for MSRP ant happening.
Throw two massive fans on it ask for $20 bucks more and I am happy....
I dont think its going to happen this time around.

Each setup is different and blower type are the best to push heat out of case and since I use small cases it's the only way to go, no noise problem either.
I tried once a MSI Twin Frozr II and it was a nightmare, as soon as I started a game fans went 100% and were very loud, luckily I was able to get a full refund and told myself, never again. If I had a huge case then maybe it would work but I know it would just blend air inside case so a good flow with proper in and out fans would be required.

Amazon has a lot of negative reviews because of price gouging on pre-orders.
If you go to Nvidia's hardware GTX 1080 page it links to vendors, Best Buy currently show $699.00

The Nvidia store should sell them for $699 in the USA at least.
That's if you must have one, I imagine that anyone with any sense at all will wait and buy non Founder's cards.
Nvidia also posted a new article today, that is more in depth about the new Pascal GPUs.
