Probably the wrong place for this but I have lost the Dragon Age: I thread. So I tried to fire this up in windows 10 and got a black screen immediately followed by a CTD. Yet, in windows 7 it works fine. Anyone know if there is a solution?

Doing an upgrade is probably OK at this point, but Helifax's comment about problems with DX9 games gives me pause. But, don't upgrade for possible performance improvements, there aren't any. http://www.techspot.com/review/1042-windows-10-vs-windows-8-vs-windows-7/ You win some, you lose some, best we can say is they are nearly identical in performance, especially for gaming. If anyone can post benchmarks that contradict that, I'd be curious to see them. Not this early, but later on Win10 will probably be a must for the people using VR. I know of at least two VR apps that only run with 8.1 or above. (DXGI changes)

Thanks bo3b for the link. So it seems I can cross the performance improvements also from the list. And that some games with DX9 do not run properly or at all is of course an argument... I will get my Vive in May, so maybe until then I will stay with the two system solution which seems to be very good.

Definitely having more issues in my windows 10 partition than my 7 one, and performance is better in 7 on some games, probably give and take here... though but it's definitely more stable on 7 at this point. Maybe I should do some benchmarks. But as I mentioned before you don't actually have to give up your 7 key, there isn't any significant limitations from just installing 10 without one, and a clean install is probably a better option anyway as a dual boot. But yeah, it's not just dx9 I can't get dragon age to run at all in windows 10 with the fix. I have been flicking back and forth but am still mainly using 7 for actual gaming because of it.

I remember at some point I had issues with one of the Frostbyte 3 Engine games that we fixed and I had to update the 3DMigoto the fix originally used. If you want I can zip-up the fix for DA:I that is working perfectly fine here on my Windows 10 installation using 3D Surround so you can test it. Probably worth mentioning on this thread, that the latest versions of 3Dmigoto are quite a lot superior for Win10 use than older versions. We made several changes that improved compatibility with Win10, so if you have a fix that isn't working, try the latest dlls. And please report back either way.
Only game that didn`t work in 3D and with 3Dfix was Diablo 3.
Edit: I managed to start Diablo III in 3D. Problem was that Battle.Net launcher can read previous installation and with this won`t add any files to the system itself so 3D Vision drivers couldn`t ready anything from what was running. I`ve made fresh download and now game starts in 3D like before. Some games can be installed like this on Uplay and Steam so I advice to everyone who have a problem with game not triggering 3D respond to try make a fresh installation so Windows 10 have it registered.
I am downloading my Win10 upgrade. And I cloned my system Win7 before on an extra SSD. Hope everything goes well.
I was doing the same thing this weekend! It just worked out where it was pretty much the best time I would have to do it before the "free" Windows 10 period ran out. How did yours go? Mine was not as bad as I expected actually. Here's a list of problems I ran into (not related to 3D vision but we ARE talking about W10): 1) Bios settings acted funny after install. I have a 3.5Ghz i7 OC'd to 4.5Ghz and for some reason my OC setting prevented the OS from booting up. Or the OS prevented my OC setting from booting up, or.... something.... My MOBO would kill the boot cycle before the monitor screens were activated up to three times, then it would force me to go back into bios. I finally succeeded after reverting all bios settings to default. I really have no idea why this was an issue, but I'm theorizing it has something to do with Win10 using hardware profiles to activate the software. Once I got Win10 working correctly, I was able to overclock everything again. 2) I only had one set of GeForce drivers installed since I did a clean install of Win10, but nonetheless on the one game I've tried so far, SLI kept crashing and giving me a strange error message about the GPU disappearing or not having enough memory. Oddly enough, it would work when running in single GPU mode. I performed a DirectDriverUnistall and reinstalled and it fixed the issue. 3) Not really a problem, but a complaint: It really irks me how this new version of Windows doesn't come with any means to simply play a DVD. I get that a Blu-Ray needs some proprietary software/codecs and you pretty much have to pay for that, but a DVD?? C'mon! Maybe I'm just dense, but I couldn't find a way to pop in a movie and simply have it play. Media Center wouldn't recognize it any longer, and when I tried to install my licensed copy of PowerDVD 12, I was told the publisher wasn't licensed and it refused to install. A search online offered no help whatsoever, and revealed that Microsoft is frighteningly silent on the matter. I downloaded Media Portal and Kodi, since they are advertised to be the solution to all my woes, however this was not the case at all. It was nearly impossible to play a movie DVD, because they don't just 'play' it, but rather they explore the disc and force you to pick from a meaningless list of files found on the disc and you just have to hope you pick one that actually gets you where you want to go. This is a big deal to me because my PC doubles as my home theater. So yeah, I could download VLC to play DVDs and that's fine, but it still didn't address the Blu-Ray or remote control limitations. So I finally broke down and bought a copy of PowerDVD 15, which solved all of these issues, but man, what a hassle.

Thanks for your impressions. Overall it works now, but the way was not without problems. - automatic update did not work, the download did not start, so I had download Win10 from the website directly - I had my SSD cloned before which was shrinking the system space on it under 100 MB, but Win10 needs over 100 MB to the upload. I had to download a special programme to re-arrange my partitions. - in the beginning of the new install I had Win10 crashing 2 times - I wanted to use my full HDD space of 4 TB - which is not possible under Win7, so I had to change format of the HDD. As I wanted to keep all my games on it, I was supposed to use a special programme. The programme in the end crashed my HDD, erased all data (2 TB of games), but changed the format, so I can use now 4 TB, but have to download everything again. - Win10 was using my newly created Microsoft account for my desktop... I had to change this back - my boot settings also got messed up, it is because Win10 has some sort of hibernate setting. So I am booting now with F8 and choosing particular my SSD. I guess going back to default would resolve the issue. - Killer Instinct runs now after install of new Nvidia driver perfect (60FPS and 3D vision). - I had problems by applying for example the 3d fix for Watch_Dogs. Starting the game again solved it. Overall I am fine now and happy that I spent the time finally upgrade.
