Attention 3D community! Please help me figure a simple problem of connecting my PROJECTOR & Moni
Hello guys, I have a Viewsonic PJD6531 w projector and an Asus monitor. I just recently purchased a 680 GTX from Fry's electronics and here is the link to the specs/pictures/etc. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-680/specifications\ What I need is simple. How and with what cables do I connect both my monitor and my projector to HDMI since my graphics card only has ONE HDMI port?!?!? I know it has this other weird port right next to the HDMI port, but I don't know what it is (yes, even with the nvidia websites help I'm confused). Please help a fellow out who is only semi-proficient in connecting this type of equipment and tell me in detail what I do? I really dont want to have to "swap out" my monitor to my projector by getting behind my computer every day and swapping out two different HDMI cables every time I choose between my projector and my monitor. I want to have them BOTH constantly connected and just use the Nvidia control panel to swap connections....which I used to do with my 480 GTX quite well using the weird other connection that had in addition to its one HDMI port. THanks and please please help me guys!!!

It's probably a displayport (google image search to confirm). You just need a displayport-HDMI adapter.

That link is generic. What brand did you get? The brands sometimes change the ports. Also, more importantly, what connectors does your Asus monitor support? You'll need to use the HDMI port with the projector. One of the other ports on the card should work fine with the Asus like you want.

I don't know what ports your card has, but you want to use dual-link DVI to the monitor if possible. You can use anything to the projector. I used to use 3d-vision via VGA (using DVI > VGA) or HDMI, but I'm currently using 3d vision to the same projector just by using a mini display port > full size display port, then a cheap passive display port > HDMI, then, finally (!) a HDMI cable to the projector. Basically, the projector isn't fussy, and doesn't need the bandwidth of DVI.
