Screen Tearing (and disorientation) in 3d vision regardless of Vsync settings. (SLI)
1 / 4
I have noticed a disturbing trend in a few 3d games recently where Vsync does not appear to work at all. (and as DJ-RK point's out below, a very unsettling effect as if the glasses are out of sync)
Has anyone else noticed this, and if so is there a resolution?
For example. GTA5 and Streetfighter 5.
It seems in these games no matter what I set Vsync to either in game or forced through the drivers, I get terrible screen tearing, that disappears in 2D mode.
I have tried a bunch of things.
All versions of Vsync in the Nvidia panel.
Changing the refresh rate of my monitors.
Restricting the frame rate of the games through Nvidia inspector.
Disabling SLI resolves it, but it not a solution in most games for performance reasons.
Does anyone else experience this and have you found any resolution?
I'm pulling my hair out here. It's so bad in the two games mentioned I cannot play them.

Determined to get to the bottom of this today. I have found its related too SLI.
It's like Vsync no longer works in SLI at all.
Streetfighter 5 doesn't even have SLI bits yet it still is an issue here.
Disable SLI in the NCP and the problem completely goes away.
Must be some sort of a driver problem, I wonder if its always been this way or is just a bug that's been introduced.

it's likely to be that fps skyrocket indoors so vsync has an effect whereas outside fps drops below 60fps. It doesn't seem to apply to all games though...some work perfectly fine. but for instance AC IV black flag is another one that gets badly affected to the point i'm literally crying!!

I've been having an issue with certain FPS games (Fallout 4, Metro:LL) where the screen tearing isn't prevalent, but *something* is going on which gives me a very unclear image that's almost dizzying effect whenever the image is in motion. I'm guessing it's the glasses losing sync, or something. Either way, really annoying, just had it creep back on me last night after months of no issues. So far best solution I've found is to limit the FPS to 55 in the Nvidia control panel, which actually has the game running at around 58, but even that's not fool proof. Not sure if it's related, but figured I'd mention it in case anyone else has experienced this and hopefully knows how to resolve it.

This has happened before, years ago and I guess it was some kind of driver bug:

Exactly this, as well. This is what I had to do with GTA. Unfortunately not a valid solution for Sf5 due to it having to run at 60fps and that's where I am really seeing this disorienting effect. but I don't need SLI on here (since it's not supported anyway).
Just to clarify, this is ONLY in 3Dvision.
Maybe we should collectively submit a bug report to Nvidia about this. Can someone post the correct link to do this? I can't seem to find it.

I'm actually rolled back to 358.50, and it was happening on older drivers. Not sure if it's impacting me on the newest.

I do not currently have SLI, I was just posting the links for necropants.
I am curious how this plays out because I'm considering a 2nd GPU.

Thanks D-Man11
My only trepidation about submitting a bug report about this at this point is I have only really noticed in in games that have received complete fixes by the community here and are unplayable otherwise.
I can imagine Nvidias canned response being. "sorry, that game is not supported in 3d vision."
For me in GTA it's not so bad in that I don't get the "Dizzy" out of sync effect just the screen tearing inside.
I feel a 3d video would be the only way to convey the problem.
SF5 is the best example, for me at this point, it's literally unplayable in 3dvision SLI even though it's not supported which is weird in it's self. (and thankfully it doesn't need it.)
