Civilization V - with 3D enabled - crashes to desktop the moment I attempt to adjust zoom
Hi all, Im having this issue in Civ V, where it crashes to desktop the moment I attempt to zoom either in or out, the game is completely stable till such time I attempt the zoom. I have tried the following: * re-installing directX * using the last 3 nvidia drivers (clean install's) * Steam integrity check * remove profile from nvidia inspector * tried various resolutions - my default be 1680 x 1050 It use to work for me, many months ago when I last tried. Things that have changed since working * stupidly upgraded to windows 8 * upgraded graphics card to GTX680 * bought DLC Gods & Kings * no doubt a number of steam updates My Specs Asus Rampage Extreme II | Quad core intel I7 2.6 | 6gig ram | Geforce GTX 680 | Samsung 22" 2233RZ | win8 Any help appreciated

What resolution are you playing at? Might try a lower resolution as an experiment. Crashing on zooming that only happens in 3D suggests to me that you might be running out of VRAM. The DX10 and DX11 will typically use more VRAM, especially for tesselation.

OK, yeah, not too likely with 2G of VRAM at 1680x1050.

Quite a few people seem to have this problem, steam forums have some reports too. As a small data point, I can run Civ5 without any problems, no crash when zooming using the scroll wheel on the mouse. Everything set to high, including high-res textures for zoomed out. 1600x900 supersampled for 1280x720. DX11 launch. Latest driver 320.49, and auto-patched Civ5. Steam cloud enabled, Steam overlay enabled. Only one DLC though- Mongols. Win7 32 bit. That doesn't suggest anything in particular, but maybe it's helpful to know a known good case.

BTW, if you think the Win8 might be the problem, try running it in Win7 compatibility mode via properties.

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode or as administrator? How about altering the key settings to bind zoom to another key? Does it make a difference running it in Windowed/Fullscreen/Fullscreen Windowed if it gives you the option? Could also try a hacked exe maybe... I hope you get it sorted soon!

I also have the same issue, but uninstalling and re-installing did not solve the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
