Rage, Doom 4, Prey 2, etc will NEVER WORK! Nvidia. Please find a way to get the ID TECH 5 engine
  1 / 3
Carmack the genius didn't add in 3D support into the Tech 5 engine and it's using OpenGL.

Nvidia doesn't support OpenGL.

Many showcase games that would look great in 3D will not work!! Is there anything Nvidia can do? These were some to the games I was looking forward to the most, and now they won't even work at all. This sucks bigtime. Next were gonna hear that Skyrim and Bioshock suck in 3D. /verymad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':verymad:' /> /verymad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':verymad:' /> /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' />

Really? How can I be sure of that when even Nvidia says NOT RECOMMENDED in the 3D vision profile? If u know something pray tell.

Does nobody care about these games, or all future Bethesda games which will use the ID TECH 5 engine?

I care (about id) but what can we do?
There are bigger problems they have, like texture compression looks horrible on PC, and they might patch it. Maybe they do better job than Crytek and fix 3D too.

By the way its not opengl afaik , but DX.

have a look: http://developer.nvidia.com/opengl-driver
it will work, tell you. BUT HOW it will work, that's a different matter, uh. /confused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Opengl is of course supported by nvidiadrivers. Just not in 3d and by 3d-vision yet.
To view opengl in 3d you need a quadrocard and software which uses quadbuffered commands (most if not all opengl games don't).

Well, no, if it's OpenGL it won't work in 3D, at all, and neither will Doom 4 or any games Bethesda makes using that engine.

There is conflicting info on the net about whether ID Tech 5 is OpenGL, but the articles saying it uses DirectX are all like 4 years old, and all the recent articles say it's OpenGL only.

I consider it a bigger issue that these games are not [possibly] going to be 3D games.

Since Nvidia will not likely expand their 3D Vision coverage to OpenGL, it's imperitive, to get with the times, that iD implement 3D natively similar to what Avatar the game did. Since it is OpenGL (most likely), it will probably have to use industry standards like checkerboard, side-by-side, top-bottom, page-flipping etc., this would then in turn by-pass the need for 3D Vision at all. The only problem I see is exactly how 120 Hz 3D vision monitors will be able to tap in since they are dependent on the IR emitter and 3D Vision glasses.

Of course, this would assume that they have any interest in 3D at all, but as I said, how effective are these games going to be without 3D? Doom 3 had quad-buffer stereo support as did Quake 3.

Really? Can Doom 3 be played in 3D Vision on a quadro card?

With 3D Vision? Never tried specifically with 3D Vision, but that method is not necessary, unless you just happen to own a quadro. Doom 3 does have code for native quad buffered stereo.

To play Doom 3 in [forced] stereo requires just a 7 series Nvidia card, Win XP 32, CRT (e-dimensional glasses), DLP (DLP-Link glasses), and others.

I'll try to find Carmacks email address, and explain to him why 3D is so important, and that with his genius he could probably add 3D without too much trouble.

Is there anything Nvidia can do?
