So I ordered the Zalman 22" 3d-monitor.
The drivers of the monitor are only for windows vista 32-bit.
There are also older drivers for Windows XP, but those don't work for my 8800GT.
What should I do?
-Buy that crappy Windows Vista (got one license already for my laptop, it sucks)
-Wait until stereoscopic drivers for windows XP are ready for download?
I hate Windows Vista so I'd rather hear about drivers for WXP coming out this week or so. But is that realistic?

why do you hate vista? IMHO it is a much beter operating system than xp, and if it seems slow to you then either your laptop isnt fast enough for it or you havent tweaked it to be what you want.
i seriously doubt xp drivers will be out soon let alone this week :(

Indeed, my laptop isn't fast enough, I have a very cheap laptop.
I also admit that it got some improvements, but:
-I don't care anything about the graphical improvements, I run my XP in classic style even though I got a killermachine
-I do care about the tiniest performance-compromise
-Some programs don't work on Vista (Just like I'd use Linux when it would support all programs)
-I'm very conservative, I like everything to be as it used to be (personal motive to not like Vista)
-I hate converting my old installation or backing up everything to put it back on my machine a few hours later
On-topic:
Nobody knows a release date for any XP-drivers? Or else at least some leaked beta?

Hi,
I'm in the same situation than you.
I'm on windows XP with an 8800 GTS 512 graphic card and I think that the consumer doesn't have to buy win vista to use their graphic card like they wants.
I search and find some solutions to have the 3D stereo activate on a 8800 (with the guru3d drivers) but they doesn't works with a G92 processor, so not on a 8800 GT(S) 512...
So I'm waiting like some people for the Nvidia 3D stereo drivers on Win Xp...

I said it before and i'll say it again. Personally i'll only change to vista (or the op-system after that) when it suits my needs better than xp. Stereo3d has a huge deal to do with that. I don't care playing games if they don't run in stereo so by now the iz3d-company is my best friend regarding the 3D-stereo-scene. They have the best customersupport anyone can dream of and lately they have even fixed their driver to suit my dual projection rig.

I'll admit it, I'm one of the guys that got suckered into buying Vista. It kinda sucks that DX10 is Vista only, but maybe there were legitimate technical reasons. It really sucks that the new Nvidia driver is Vista only, and even at that, only supports the Zalman. However, like it or not, that is the situation. So I ponied up for a Vista rig with a new 8800 GTS card and I'm saving for the Zalman. At times it feels like I'm a sucker, but really, Vista isn't all that bad. I'm saying, you can flip windows around in 3D, even while HD videos continue to play. Thats got to count for something.

But what the hack, I already bought Vista, now I'm saying "Vista is nice", "Vista rules", and that kind of non sense to manipulate myself :P haha if I have to live with Vista, I want to make the best of it.

I have XP and Vista, and I have the Zalman trimon 22" monitor. All I can say is that I am begining to play in 2D (I was playing only in stereo3d since 2 or 3 years). Yes, I usually use XP because it seem something "better" for me and for my games. The 1st use I do for my computer is games, and they work something better (not a lot, but better) in XP.
And what about stereo3d using the zalman monitor ?... it is a good monitor and a "interesting piece of hardware", but I it is not funny for me to play with this stereo solution, so I´m using this monitor to play 2D, and only sometimes I "test" in 3d. You must think that this is a 1650x1050 monitor that needs to be used in 4x Antialiasing to minimize the big jagies produced because the half vertical resolution lost, and 16x Anisotropic Filteringto to minimize the bilinear sensation of the textures, so you must have a very powerfull computer to play recent games with a decent framerate, and all this to give you the maximun visual quality that this monitor offer, that it is not enought (it is not enought for me, maybe it is enought for you). Also there are a lot of games that doesn´t work properly because the Nvidia driver, we all know.
The result is that I´m playing games in Windows XP and without stereo with this Zalman 22" monitor, like any other normal monitor, and I am discovering that playing in 2D can be a lot of funny just because you have not why to test so much, and you have a lot of power to play games in a good framerate. I think that stereo3D is loosing terrain, first with the dead of the CRT monitors, and now with the stupid decisions of the 1st company that support the driver.
Also the Zalman support for this monitor is totally absent. I have written 3 emails, I have fill the RMA forms that they needs to support their products, and afther 15 days I have no support. The only monitor supported by Nvidia is a difficult monitor to find in the shops, an expensive monitor for 2D, a not enought monitor for 3D, and a monitor without support.
I think this monitor would be good at 300 €, to introduze it and compete with samsung or other monitors that offer better 2D. I can understand perfectly the Zalman movement, but what I can´t understand is the Nvidia decision... what it the reason?. And only Windows Vista?.... I really don´t understand, they are killing totally a loyal comunity, only a future revolutionary discover of a really good 3D monitor supported for the nvidia driver would give any sense.
I´m traying to be positive with this Zalman monitor, and always I test it I want to "discover" any ghost good that I can´t see. This is not enought to play stereo3D (but it is not bad for 2D, so it can be in my desktop now that I´m forgeting to play with stereo). Thanks, Nvidia.
So answering the question of this thread: NO, Vista is not needed, it is only needed if you buy this monitor and you really like it (it is not impossible to be happy with it).

Thanks for your wise advice :P
Haha maybe it's the newness of my Zalman monitor, but I really enjoy my new monitor!
I can't talk about any other 3d-gaming, since the only thing that worked for me was anaglyphs, but this is só amazing, it's so more realistic!
And almost every game works (in fact every single one I tested worked, most perfectly, a few with bugs)
No, I can't agree with you, maybe I will when I use it for a longer term, but for now, no, definitely not.

Yeah, I think theres more to their decision than just the Zalman. It wouldn't make any business sense otherwise. I mean, Zalman has some money, but not like Nvidia. Nvidia is huge. And I seriously doubt Zalman could have paid Nvidia off to drop support for other hardware. Thats like trying to bribe Microsoft. It doesn't make any sense. There has to be something we don't know about.

And what about stereo3d using the zalman monitor ?... it is a good monitor and a "interesting piece of hardware", but I it is not funny for me to play with this stereo solution, so I´m using this monitor to play 2D, and only sometimes I "test" in 3d.
Edit: typo

Yeah, I think theres more to their decision than just the Zalman. It wouldn't make any business sense otherwise. I mean, Zalman has some money, but not like Nvidia. Nvidia is huge. And I seriously doubt Zalman could have paid Nvidia off to drop support for other hardware. Thats like trying to bribe Microsoft. It doesn't make any sense. There has to be something we don't know about.
