Guys , don't fall for clickbaits of fake-tech-writers posing as experts, peddling quixotism like it's news , this stuff is for the spoon-fed ignoramus readership.
Even if the proclamation has some degree of truth to it, it just means its dead to the consumers not the prosumers.
Consumers are dark ignoramuses anyway.
There are some cool new developments to 3d albeit indirectly, so I wouldn't worry.

HDR is pretty good. Nothing compared to the kind of 3D experience we have had as PC gamers, but it's a major development for consumer displays which have been stuck for a while now on the qualitative front. Nvidia doesn't seem to be writing 3D off completely so we still have some hope.

I gave up on 3D gaming a while ago, but I still enjoy movies in 3D. Everyone here bashes the movies, however they aren't as bad as everyone says.
On a small screen movie 3D would be crappy, but on a projector or decent size TV its actually not all that bad.
Not watched a 3D movie yet that made me think the 2D version would be better.
HDR is great, it's more of an upgrade to picture quality than 4K IMHO. Although there are multiple standards (HLG/Dolby vision/HDR10) it seems that HDR10 has been quickly adopted as a base standard.
As much as I hate HDMI, at least the race for HDR and 4K has forced manufacturers to start to put newer versions of HDMI on the display devices, which means that the chances for full 1080p 3d and maybe even higher are finally entering the realms of possibility outside of £10,000 upwards projectors.
A number of 4K projectors have been announced, cheapest of which is the Optoma UHD60, the specs of which haven't been confirmed yet, although it's rumoured to support 3d if you look on AVSFORUMS.
None of the others officially support 3d, but I've been reading some of the user manuals and they do seem to suggest support of 120hz and upwards, so I'm not getting excited yet but it looks to me as though we finally have a chance of getting full res 1080p 3d@60hz, at least.
Have a look yourselves, the models are the Benq W11000 and the Acer v9800. The manual for the 9800 says it supports 4k at 135Hz.

Interesting video. This is not just a straight up hatchet job, which I really liked. Of course I don't agree with him, but I thought it was one of the best anti-3D video's I've seen, because he detailed the legitimate problems with 3D, without being a jerk.
Essentially, it's not good enough for him to bother, but for us it is.
I think he'd actually be a convert, if he got a chance to play on a projector, where you don't have the HUD focusing problem, since both are at distance. Or if he recognized what a terrible joke HUDs have become, and just turns them off.
He also scrolled through HelixModBlog's massive list of fix games, which I've never seen anyone else even mention. :->
