How much trouble would it be for Nvidia to unlock SBS, TB, etc. 3D?
You'd figure since they no longer support 3D vision in any way, they could at least unlock some more modes. Wouldn't it be as simple as removing some restrictions, doesn't seem it would cost them much if any money/time/effort. Is it more complex than it seems? I wonder if this is something we could petition them for with any success at this point.

It will take about 10 min to change output formats, if only they really care about that. But it will need some motivation and developpement skill to make it right though, cause funky driver is not very appreciate by gamer so they probably prefer not to touch anything. (If it ain't broke, don't fix it...)
Everything is locked to HDMI 1.4 specifications for 3DTVPlay but it's definitly possible to change it to 2.0. But for 3DVision, they still sell licences to manufacturers, so with contracts signed, they can't make it for free... ($$$ Power)

I'm only commenting because this has been raised so many times over the last few years and it's really depressing :-(
If only they would do something about it. I just bought 2 x GTX 1070's, Nvidia have had a lot of money from me over the last 10 years. I know the two things are not related but it would be Christmas come early if they did something about this.

I've also seen topics about this before over the years and could at least attempt to understand their reasoning when 3D vision was actively supported. Now that it's all but legacy and unsupported, why not "unlock" it. How much money can they be making off of 3D Vision anymore? The focus is now VR and no advancements are made with 3D vision. We are handcuffed to lower resolutions like it's 2011 without any reason. They could show some support to loyal customers by at least updating the program to support current TV/Monitor Specs before abandoning it all together.

People report getting 3dvision working in 4k screens at this point. How is this handcuffing us to lower resolutions?
Performance is the only factor for me it seems, and since you require titan X's in SLI to power 1440p adequately at decent settings its a moot point at this stage anyway in my opinion.

They shouldn't have to incorporate workarounds to get 4K interleaved working, it should just work. I know I've got 2 1080's but Rise of the Tomb Raider works in SBS with 4K DSR without ever dropping below 60 fps. I really want 1080p 60hz frame packed on HDMI 2.0 devices more than anything. SBS and TB 4K would be nice too.

Maybe they could make it like the hardware section in the old nvidia control panel where you had to accept that you are using it at your own risk before accessing fan control and overclocking features.

I honestly don't think they are concerned with performance issues, well maybe the older executives are. When 3D vision was released, how many graphics cards could run it properly? I don't think any were capable of the 1080p 3D that 3D vision monitors supported without turning down or off some settings. If it made money, they'd do it. It doesn't seem like it will cost them any money to do it either, at this point. That's why I feel now may be the time to push for it.

I wish Nvidia drivers could convert from one format to another. Like in a game profile tell the game "this is going to be outputting in side by side, please convert it to frame packed". Then I would be able to play The Evil Within in 3D :( (I just bought the game on the Humble Store) and also PCSX2.
Having SBS/TAB/Interlaced/Checkerboard options at the max refresh rate of your monitor would be great too. You would sacrifice half the resolution but maintain whatever a very high refresh rate.
