Metro 2033 3D Vision DX11 Very High Settings Issue Having graphical glitches in this mode
1 / 2
I have two GTX 580s in SLI and would like to play Metro 2033 in 3D Vision on very high settings. The problem is, there is odd blurring that occurs around characters and it flickers off and on and is impossibly distracting. This isn't just some weird artifact from bad depth or convergence or whatever, each eye gets the same thing. With the graphics set to high this doesn't happen.
I am using the latest drivers available and have ensured DOF is turned off.
Anyone else running into this problem on very high in DX11 mode? Is there something I can do to eliminate it? It's really bugging me to not be able to max the game out.

By chance are your cards pre-overclocked? I have noticed Metro 2033 seems to take issue with some pre-overclocked cards, particularly mine. I have to run them at stock 580 settings (772 core, 2004 vRAM) or the game crashes every once in a while... may not relate to your issue, but I thought it was worth conveying.
Mayhaps this is a driver issue that'll be addressed in the upcoming release.

I am having the same issue, and it is making the game unplayable in dx11 on very high.
I just got a gtx 570 and I am using the 1.42 driver CD for 570/580.
Anyone have any ideas? Might it be related to the new card or drivers?

I haven't played this in a while but my system is still fairly high performance and I remember I would get severe drops in frame rates at certain places down into lower 20s with 3D enabled on very high, even with DoF off. One good example is at the beginning when you first exit into the opera house and the creatures show up. I would just drop it down to high and enjoy the game. I think it's a mix of something with the game engine not working correctly with the 3D Vision drivers.
That's probably unrelated to your issue but I though I would share anyway.
*Edit* I just loaded the game up to verify what I posted.

I've noticed a lot of framerate drops in a lot of games because of 3D. What I like is that going 3D really shows how optimized the game engine is. Black Ops is normally in the high 40s with stereo, but going outside makes it drop to the 10s. This indicates to me that the engine is struggling to render a lot of geometry on the screen at once.
Avatar (CryEngine) seems to be the best optimized for outdoor environments but even that gives me framerates in the 20s (which is doable).

Haven't tried with DOF on as that'd introduce apparently new issues, and also cut performance dramatically. It's not a setting you should need with real depth, haha.
Nope, not pre-overclocked. Standard EVGA GTX 580s. I do however see how pre-overclocked cards, if not 100 percent stable at those clocks, would crash on 3D Vision. It's putting a load on them that not much else could, aside from maybe 3D Mark Vantage / 11 on Extreme presets. I'd just bump of the voltage of the cards a tad to see if that calmed the crashing problem down.
I'm guessing it must be a driver issue. It only happens on very high though.

Interesting to hear that the game works without the blurring issue on very high on the GTX 480s.

Ok, I now see what you are talking about. I can definitely confirm that I do NOT have this issue on my cards so I would have to think it is a driver issue. I know some people know ways of modifying .inf files on drivers to add other cards so I wonder if there was a way to install the 260.99 drivers that I am using and see if the problem goes away. This may be a dangerous thing to do, however, since I only see people adding older cards to newer drivers, and not the other way around. Seeing as the 580GTX is just the 480GTX with all the hardware enabled I don't see how it could be a card issue.
I attached a picture of the same scene for comparison.

Wow! Looks like I need to adjust my FOV. I like that. And what I should try is bringing my driver back down to 262.99. If that doesn't work I'll tinker with attempting 260.99. If that fixes it then it'll be a confirmed driver issue, but I'd definitely not leave a 'hacked in' solution like that in place for the one game to be playable on very high. I guess the onus would be on NVIDIA to fix it.

I am really interested to see how this pans out for you. I might just have to put off playing Metro 2033 though until I go SLI 570s, as I am still having trouble playing at very high with tessellation at native resolutions. :D

Mayhaps this is a driver issue that'll be addressed in the upcoming release.

I just got a gtx 570 and I am using the 1.42 driver CD for 570/580.
Anyone have any ideas? Might it be related to the new card or drivers?

I haven't played this in a while but my system is still fairly high performance and I remember I would get severe drops in frame rates at certain places down into lower 20s with 3D enabled on very high, even with DoF off.

I am really interested to see how this pans out for you. I might just have to put off playing Metro 2033 though until I go SLI 570s, as I am still having trouble playing at very high with tessellation at native resolutions. :D
