Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag - DX11 3DMigoto Fix

thanks for ur reply. but the card didnt lose clock speed, i forgot to say that yesterday. i checked temps and clockspeeds with msi afterburner and everything was fine. just checked it again to make sure. i first didnt delete the ac4 profile but thought that that was might be the issue. but deleting made no difference. changing the settings to max performance doesnt make any difference as well. every other game works fine, metro ll for example. and as i said as soon as i uninstall the fix gpu usage ist totally fine again. maybe i have to try a different driver but i dont want to really do that. thanks for your help

Yep, different driver is not likely to be it. Did you try setting your clocks to normal, no overclocking? I see that you have overclocked card and CPU both. There are times when some games can make a particular clock fail, even if everything else is working. I had a situation where Deus Ex would crash every time, in the same spot in a game, and it was because my GPU needed 40Mzh less clock speed in that game, in that spot. Otherwise 100% solid, including FurMark. It would also be worth trying without other overlays like MSI and Steam and UPlay. 3Dmigoto patches in a similar way to all those, and there are sometimes incompatibilities.

AC3 didn't like overclocks, that could well be the issue.

OK. Can you make a graph of CPU and GPU usage for me? If you can use the normal Task Manager, and NVidia Inspector GPU graphes, that will help lower the number of variables for me, and show me things that I already know how to read. Add the GPU Memory Usage one as well, it's always possible it's running out of GPU memory, and having to page stuff back and forth.

Yeah, that looks good, thanks. Based on that, it's definitely not GPU memory, because I assume you've got 2G on that 770. The stutter/stall you see, would you say that top graph is representative? The GPU Usage is going between max usage and 60%. Generally in AC4, we see it just max out, mostly flat line. In that graph, are you standing in place, moving around? Standing in place is more interesting for this. Doesn't look like temperature either, as it does that up/down cycle before the temperature curve is very high. Still possible, but it also does not get worse cycling the higher the temp. CPU usage is pretty normal too- it's not all that demanding, 4 cores max. I don't have any good suggestions, this is really odd. Maybe run the same setup with 3Dmigoto deactivated as the only change, same graph, same spot. Barring that, try enabling logging in the d3dx.ini file, at the top calls=1, and upload or send me the d311_log.txt.

In the second graph that shows individual core usage, Core 0 is absolutely maxxed out at 100% - so your 'average' usage of 30% is not relevant if this one core is bottlenecking you. I read on some forum that AC3 had an issue like this, and the solution was alt-tab out of game, start task manager, find the AC task right click and select affinity, turn *off* the last couple of cores (in your case because you have hyperthreading), go back in game then back out, then turn the cores back on. The game is then supposed to better balance core usage. Caveat: I have *no idea* if this is true or if it applies to AC4, but worth a try. But I do think that single core maxing out is your problem.

i only have that problem wenn i run around. when i stand still i get full gpu usage. i only tested it in nassau running trough town. yeah bo3b i got 2gig ram on my 770, and that top graph is representive. as soon as my gpu usage drops so do my fps. it feels laggy as a result. the temp doesnt make any difference, the card starts slowing down at 80C° but i never reach that. even if i raise the thermal limit to 90C° makes no difference. mike i tested what u suggested but it didnt help. my cpu core usage got better and more balanced as a result, no core was maxed out anymore but i still got those fps drops because my gpu wasnt working right. for testing i uninstalled the 3dfix to observe cpu usage without it. after closing ac4 i got the same cpu usage as before. cpu 0 core was totally maxed out but game was still working fine. my gpu was working with steady 98% load and my fps were smooth with fake 3d. i only have that problem when fix is installed. so i dont think the cpu usage is the problem, works fine even with that maxed out 0 core.

Really enjoying the fix. Are still working on it? If so I noticed a misty fog effect which looked 2D. It happened on the ship. It was also approaching dusk and hung around as it got dark, so it might be a timed effect like the stars. I didn't notice it before so I might have broken something when I was experimenting with the settings. edit I think turning the Volumetric effects FIXED this. That's a swine. Is this normal?

If either one or more of these is "no" then that will cause stuttering as shaders are loaded and compiled. The default d3dx.ini that we provide should prevent the above, but it's worth checking just to rule it out.

@mkdennis: OK, good tests. Not at all sure what would cause that, but you've at least narrowed it to some sort of texture or shader loading problem, since it only happens as you move to new spots. One thing that is dramatically different with your setup is using Xeon processor and matching motherboard. If the bus were a bottleneck for some reason that could explain it. Does it happen always, or just first time to an area? Like run toward the church, then back to beach, then back to church. If it were texture or shader loading, I'd expect that to only happen first run. Also, do you have the ability to dual-boot your system to Win7? Any extra drive, or storage? For some of these problems, it's easier to jump to an alternate boot to rule out stuff like drivers/motherboard/cpu. Win 8 is OK too, not quite as good a test, but your serial key works on Win8 as well. On Win7, I often have a clean non-licensed version that I use for tests. It complains about 'not registered', but still runs.
