Getting the most out of GTAV performance/image quality
  1 / 2
I felt this thread is needed for GTAV as the original 92 page thread is just too much to sort through and keeps getting buried...alot of people are under the impression you can just click away on ultra settings and run GTAV in 3D Vision to get the best image but wonder why they get such low performance as compared to running it in 2D. Remember not all original GTAV vanilla textures are exactly performance efficient. Luckily we have a community of modders who have put blood sweat and tears into overhauling a ton of more efficient sized textures and graphics mods that can boost performance. For example I installed the LA Road texture mod easily gained 6-8 FPS. https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/l-a-roads-8ae63c30-de64-4f16-8f3d-40c9e6d16212 There is indeed locked away performance in the original GTAV build. 3d Vision does have a FPS threshold but at least we can do other things graphics wise to try and reach the max of it. Just gotta experiment so here goes.... Nvidia were so nice to even make a detailed performance guide and comparison of each setting showing you exactly what you really don't need to be "very high/ultra click crazy" with. https://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/grand-theft-auto-v-pc-graphics-and-performance-guide As far as hardware Please refer to my two rig specs below I was running 35-42 FPS average in with Rig #1 in 1440P 3D Vision GTAV Now I get 48-62 FPS in Rig #2 So I can certainly say overall my new 1080ti/8700K combo gave me a whopping performance boost in VR/3D Vision gaming across the board over my old setup. Whether its now overclocked vs older stock clocked hardware or mainly 1080ti over 1080 I don't know. Keep in mind native 1440P is still a very performance demanding resolution let alone coupled with "our beloved could use some optimizing after damn near a decade 3D Vision hogware"..cough urrrmm fabulous software. Here are the settings I use which give great performance(48-62 FPS depending on scenery factors) *Noticed my tessellation is off its supposed to be on very high* Notice I have all advanced graphics off?? Notice I have no MSAA?? They are both extreme performance hogs coupled with the 3D Vision Core issue. In Advanced graphics the shadows options are hungry for performance. Luckily there is a trainer tool mod that has better shadow options with little to no performance loss. Download these two files and add them to your GTAV main folder Activate the trainer using F5. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1MUeYsd48JnL_eN-xZrwNf3qXTEPBYmZ- https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QMFWbnghT8w8RZnGiJYWKNSoAYL2npYa As far as AA I find MSAA very performance hungry and it also creates a bug with 3D Vision again regarding 3d markers and weird night time artifacts on your screen. Instead of MSAA just use DSR via Nvidia Control Panel with 22% Smoothness. To me it actually does a better job at eliminating jaggies with the same or maybe less performance loss and no weird artifacts at night. Thanks for this lou4612. BTW, you'd get a huge FPS increase in all 3DV games by all core overclocking your CPU (and memory) (to brute force the CPU core bug). You ought to be able to get ~4.5GHz on air, and 4.7GHz on AIO.

Thanks lou4612 for this topic, if I was you I will push this 8700k to at least 5Ghz (with XMP profile of course) it will help a lot in 3D vision based on the fact that 3D mode use only 3 cores.

what was that fix for the Out Of Memory issue? the file has gone away. was it more practical than just alt+entering at the start? edit: oops ^ beaten to it.

I've tried a few other no intro mods, but got the same error. Then I found some patch that modifies GTA5.exe and doesn't need OpenIV. It worked! Thanks a lot for finding the cause of the Out of memory error, lou4612! Who would've thought that it's because of a simple video in some old .bik format. Here's the link to the patcher https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/gtav-no-intro-video-xeramon

You guys need to read into modding gtav...and installing the basic tools like openiv and creating a mods folder The NOINTRO mod I posted is an OIV file which needs to be installed via OpenIV. Go to package installer and pick the NOIntro OIV needs to be installed to mod folder. I don’t recommend installing it any other way
