Thinking about buying the Acer H5360
  1 / 2
Hi,

I have been thinking about buying the Acer H5360 projector. At the moment i am using the Viewsonic 22" monitor @ 1680x1050.
After looking into throw distances etc i have decided that i will be using an 80" screen. However im a little concerned about the drop down to 1280x720 at the same time as screen size being for times bigger. Is it very noticeable? Im thinking maybe its like anti aliasing. Does the 3d effect make the picture seem more sharp than it actually is? If not is the difference in size more important than the resolution for the overall experience? Bare in mind that i would rather watch a 720p movie on my 42" hdtv instead of 60" that my friend has. When it comes to 1080p, i would much rather watch it on my friends 60".

Thanks in advance for any opinions,

Phil.

I'd rather watch/play games on anything larger than a 22". :P No seriously, I have a 47" 1080p LCD and I prefer to play games on my 88" 1024x768 PJ. I can tell the clarity loss (obviously considering the res difference), but I think projectors in general will look a bit less clear as I borrowed a 1080p PJ before and it wasn't as clear as my TV either, but I enjoyed it waaaay more for movies. I think a larger screen is more important for 3D past a certain res, in your case 1680x1050 vs 1280x800. I'd choose the projector. Probably more of a personal preference. Also a side note, the clarity difference between the 1080p PJ and my 1024x768 PJ on my 88" screen is surprisingly not as big as I'd expect, so I'd imagine a 1080p PJ vs a 720p PJ would be even less, depending on your throw distance.

While i can't comment on this specific model of projector, i made the move from a 61" Samsung 1080P TV to a 720p Optoma Pro350w and am quite happy with the tradeoff in quality for pure size. Very little if any ghosting. What i don't like, and you won't have to deal with, are the drivers issues. I know you will enjoy your purchase!

I have to admit after 2 - 3 weeks thinking about buying teh acer I decided to take the plunge and I must say it was worth it. Yeas its only 720p but the picture is quite clear and colours are true like.

3d vision is excellent on this projector you will be supprised how good when you see it.

i have a 46" 1080p led backlit TV and although ys 1080p is very crisp and smooth , there is always something to be said about watching a movie on a big screen :) it brings the movie to you and you enjoy it more.

I have yet to play about with the settings but even on stock it is a good PJ

Hi i ordered it!!!!!!!!!!!! Should be here Tuesday or Wednesday.

Just wondering what i will need. I have a hdmi to dvi cable, however it is a 5 meter one. Im not sure if this may cause problems, i seem to remember reading somewhere that this may be the case. Also i plan on hooking it up to an AV receiver. Not sure how i will do this? I have ordered the gtx 480, which has mini hdmi out. Will be able to use this to connect to my receiver to enable sound, at the same time as using the dvi-hdmi plugged into the projector?

Any advice will be great, as i have never used a projector before. Also any recommendations for a screen about 80" and a wall mount?

Thanks,

Phil.

Hi, this Acer H5360 is it 3D out of the box? I mean will it be like my Zalman 3D monitor or do you need the 3D vision kit to watch and play in 3D?

hi, im glad you opted for the pj as they are truly awesome and love mine to bits.
i am however curious as to what av reciever you are going to be using as i think most av recievers cannot handle 120hz thru put.
pls let me know how you go on with this as im using a sony str db-1080 reciever but want to upgrade that but have nt seenany that can handle true 120hz hdmi output

No, you need the Nvidia 3D Vision glasses.

Ah cool thanks for answering, so how can you know which HD projectors work with passive glasses if they can say 3D ready when they need extra equipment? :(

Easy, there are no projectors that work with passive glasses on the consumer market. Just check Nvidia's list to see what can be used with 3D Vision.

Hi,

Im wanting to use a dvi to hdmi cable directly from the graphics card to the projector for my picture. Then use the mini hdmi out from the graphics card (gtx 480) and plug that into my receiver, hoping that i could use this to output lpcm from the pc to the receiver, so i can have surrond sound. When i was typing it, i knew it is a long shot, was just wondering if anyone knew if this could work? Im guessing not though.
As i dont have a hdmi sound card in my pc, im guessing that ill probably have to link the projector via dvi/hdmi cable, then use optical from my pc to the receiver meaning i will only have stereo sound in my games.

What soundcard you have? if it has Dolby Digital live or DTS connect you can get 5.1 from games just using optical cable.
