2 Monitors - Full screen game capability? Full screen game and a side monitor?
With a second monitor hooked up, I'm curious if it is possible to play a game using 3D Vision and still use the second monitor. As it stands right now, I can play a video on the 2nd monitor, or have something set there (like a Ventrillo window). However, if I click something on the 2nd monitor, the full screen game minimizes. If I play the game in windowed mode, I don't have that minimizing issue. But, playing the game in windowed mode doesn't seem to allow 3D Vision to function.

Any way to get around this?

Not really. What you are seeing is a basic function of every Windows OS since, well, since ever.

The Desktop is a full screen application, so selecting anything on it (window, icon, gadget, etc.) will bring it to the foreground, automatically minimising any other full screen application the might be visible.

I wonder if a desktop manager - something like this might be able to overcome it? Have my doubts though.

Just tried two free versions of a "virtual desktop" program. It seems they run off the task bar, so only the primary monitor is effected. Too bad, I don't believe there is a way to get around this problem.

Star Trek online has a setting that is a window but is still full screen. I don't play it on my 3d Vision system much so I haven't tried that. That would be a way around it though if the game was setup for it. I use 2nd screen apps all the time while playing STO.

Hi. The replies so far answer your question in my view. Just a thought though. If you're running 3D and have two monitors, you might well have an old computer kicking around somewhere. If so, you could add a relatively cheap resource switch to your system and use the spare computer to take control without interrupting your game. I use an Edimax switch that redirects monitor, sound, keyboard and mouse facilities to my spare computers at the press of a button. It also has software control but I haven't tried it. Good luck. Cheers, M

ps, the switch would of course only redirect your 2D monitor to the spare computer...
