The thing I find interesting is when people say the visual blur and low resolutions don't matter in VR. I can understand being immersed but the lack of visual quality has to have an effect at some point? I used to get it in 3D, where i'd lower everything to make a game playable, I'd be wowed at first but after a while the visual issues would bother me. I feel this would happen in VR. At first i'd be impressed with the scale but after a while I would probably get sick of the blurriness...

This has been my experience. There are some killer experiences in VR, but the blurriness is a showstopper for me. I can use 3D Vision on projector 10 hours straight and not have any problems, but anything over about 4 hours in VR will give me an eyestrain headache, as my eyes try to clear up the fuzzy image. It's punishingly bad ergonomics and low resolution screen, but it's still great fun in some experiences.
I agree with Lou4612 and MrOrange that they each have their charms.
People saying that VR is going to replace 3D completely are dreaming, the range of experiences and quality you get in 3D are not soon to be matched in VR. Conversely, there are some experiences in VR that cannot be matched with 3D Vision, even with projector.
I think there is room for both, but I'm still expecting VR to wane like 3D did.

Well guys, any technology kind of have some factors that might bother us a bit, it takes time to perfect.
Yes, we would prefer to have better resolution and more comfortable headsets and we might achieve great improvements in resolution in the next version, but still, the headsets won't be much more comfortable. So, if you are always waiting for something to be perfect, it might never happen.
This is the same for 3D Vision and 3D content, some people complain that they have to wear glasses to watch 3D, but the fact is that the glasses are the last thing you worry about when you are having such a blast with the experience! VR is just the same and it is amazing the way it is already! It is the best possible experience in gaming right now and I would not want to be waiting for this experience as there always gonna be something better on the horizon. If we do that we might as well stop playing in 1080p because we are waiting for 4K and so on...
What I am trying to say here is even with the current resolution, VR is the best experience out there right now. I could honestly have like 3x 100inch screens in 3D surround that still would not be as immersive and as cool as a game in VR, well at least in my opinion.
But, definitely for older games and those that do not have VR support, then for those nothing beats 3D Vision, the problem at least for me now is that to go back and play these games is not easy anymore.

VR can be terrific, a friend and I are playing co-op version of Raw Data, because I have two setups. One Rift, one Vive. It's a truly epic experience.
However, same friend and I played co-op Dead Space 3 on dual 3D Vision projectors, and that was still unquestionably the best gaming experience I've ever had.
If image quality does not matter that much to you, then VR can be terrific. If quality does matter to you, 3D Vision is still a better experience.
Playing Limbo on 3D Vision is fantastic, and will not be enhanced by VR. Playing Civ5 in 3D Vision is awesome, and it makes no sense in VR- lots of little things to read. The VR version of Defense Grid 2 is a novelty, not a compelling experience in VR.
Witcher3 type experiences simply do not exist in VR. Maybe they get there, maybe they don't, but part of the charm is the beauty of the worlds. Smudged out beauty for immersion is not the same.
Rockband VR is impossibly fun and immersive. Rockband 3 is impossibly fun and social.
I really do not understand you guys saying that VR is the only game in town.

I've played Skyrim in just about every way you can play it.
Well over 1k hours in this title.
40" 4K 2d monitor
3 RoG Swifts @ 1440p each in surround and 3d vision surround.
65" 3d play TV
110" inch (720p) 3d vision projector.
Rift via vorpx
The question of "Which is the most immersive?" is something I find myself often asking myself.
This is actually a harder question to answer then it really seems. Mostly just boils down to how I feel
at any given moment. They all have good things and bad things.
At the end of the day just having more options to play in any given way I think it ultimately more important.
There is no magic bullet here, and until we have a true TNG style holodeck I don't think there ever will be.
Speaking of VR specifically, its clearly a gen 1 product. Only just now are we finally starting to make some good in roads with software. That's about the 3 year mark. Ask anyone who played with 3d vision back when it first launched and they will tell you, it was bad, worse off then current VR has ever been imo.
If Skyrim does officially come to PC I will of course buy it, despite having a good working vorpx version.
3D vision is a great way to play Skyrim for sure, this is where I have the lion's share of my playtime in.
You can't deny VR's right to exist and say it offers nothing new to the table, when it does, in a big way.
The sense of scale is immediately apparent, dragons are actually pretty scary due to how freaking huge they are. I remember approaching Iverstead getting ready to hike up the mountain and was in awe at just how large and looming the throat of the world mountain really was, completely dwarfing the town. I never got that with any other play type.

I would say that 3D vision player know very well that 2D, 3D or VR have their own perks. For example I could not play Call of Duty Multiplayer with 3D vision in order to be competitive. And I still have a great time and play it more than most of my 3D vision games. I have always been open to knew technology. I take it as it comes, especially since I can t make it better myself.

Most of you forgets what this is really all about - it's not about any tech at all !!
The tech is an instrumement we use to get to the real goal - gaming !!
And I'll gladly use all the present tech's if they support, and most importantly is suitable, for what I want to play !!
As bo3b mentioned as an example Limbo and lots of others small but awesome indie titles, they are not suitable for VR, but perfect with 3D Vision !
Sometimes I even find my self playing a PopCap game like Zumas Revenge or a card game, and that feels natural to play in 2D !
I could make a very long list with games/ genres that I won't be playing in VR ever !!
Point'n'click adventures, all sorts of strategy games, Telltale games and so on....
But off cource I will love to play especially 1prs. shooters and all sorts of driving / flying sims in VR, but I'll pass till next generation :)
(Why does it feel like I've written this a thousand times:)

Lol, yeah i also thought you were "yelling" with the CAPS too Helifax. Its so hard to tell a person's real emotions through text.
Now, why they don't make the Rift and Vive modular so a user can upgrade their unit with a better display themselves is a mystery to me. Screen seems like the biggest bottleneck to enjoyment right now, well and lack of supported games. But i can't wait to see what PSVR 2 does. I'm excited because i think Sony, with all their expertise, will possibly make some very innovative upgrades to make a wide variety of usability possible on the PS5 and it will probably function very well. They already came with the best comfort (i think) and best SDE display. Won't be for a couple years though i bet. Skyrim appears to have been a massive success though by some reports. The shear amount of "Holy crap, just bought PSVR with Skyrim, this is incredible, this has changed my life, had no idea it was this amazing, i'm IN Skyrim!".... the amount of those is amazing to me.
If anyone downturns, i would imagine it would be PCVR sometime beyond the release of PC Skyrim VR, DOOM and Fallout 4 VR, all from Bethesda and all possible the result of a unique interest from Todd Howard maybe. This focus on teleportation on the PC too when the PSVR community alone has proven that the majority can more than handle smooth turning. Like Arktica 1, could have played like a Metro game just fine. To be fair to them, i think their development started awhile back when less was known about how well a person could overcome motion sickness.
Just the excitement from the PSVR community has me wanting to go buy a PS4 Pro, even though im a hardcore PC gamer and would normally target the Rift. (correction: am targeting the Rift)

I just set up my projector, after a fairly long break due to recent fatherhood. the other half is away for the next month so have managed to set up a 120" screen area in the front room lol, the biggest I have had it. so I stick on Skyrim, just in 2D to check out the scale, and I got a bit of a wow effect. I have never seen this game on a screen this size. so then I got a bit confident, who needs 3D? this is great! all the same, guess I better try 3D out just to confirm I am ok without it, my new life in 2D can then Begin, no setting up, just play the damn game!
why the hell did I do that. 3D on a 120" is awesome, I thought I was going to fall into the game at one point, its literally just there. So anyway, I guess I will be impressed by VR as well, 3D and the large scale just has that wow factor. Its just such a shame that this incredible effect isn't used by more people in Nvidia form, I'm already unable to switch back to bloody 2D....
VR is definitely something I'll be seriously looking into, as there no way I will be able to use the space for my projector long term lol.

Good times
46" Samsung ES7500 3DTV (checkerboard, high FOV as desktop monitor, highly recommend!) - Metro 2033 3D PNG screens - Metro LL filter realism mod - Flugan's Deus Ex:HR Depth changers - Nvidia tech support online form - Nvidia support: 1-800-797-6530
why the hell did I do that.

That's quite alot imo, taking into consideration that there were so many 3D bashers
