I've still been struggling to get the new edition of the fix to work. I've been trying the past few days to get it working again, but I'm puzzled as to what I'm doing wrong. I'm attempting to output in SBS and/or TaB, but neither seem to be working correctly.
The Error:
I consistently get a black screen with sound, and while I understand that's a documented error if one forgets to uncomment the 'run = CustomUpscaleShader' line, I have been doing that. Upon boot up in windowed mode, 3D does not engage (the pyramid does not light up). Switching to fullscreen via Alt+Enter causes 3D to engage (pyramid lights up), but the screen is still black and there is still sound. Switching back to windowed mode shows a static screen from the game in the window (I'm guessing whatever was last in the buffer).
Here's my setup so far:
[d3dx.ini]
Constants:
[.]x7 = 2 for SBS[/.]
Present:
[.]Both 'run = CustomShaderUpscale' and 'run = CustomShader3DVision2SBS' are uncommented[/.]
Device:
[.]upscaling = 1 -> If I set this to '2' there's a high likelihood that either the game or my computer will crash[/.]
[.]width = 1920, height = 1080[/.]
[.]upscale_mode = 1[/.]
[Everything Else]
Nvidia Settings:
[.]Maximum pre-rendered frames = 1[/.]
Driver version: 384.94 (7/23/17)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980
Those settings in the ini and the Nvidia Control Panel are all I'm changing. I'm using the fix linked in llyzs' post for reference via extracting it into the NieRAutomata directory. I do have a suspicion that the driver update may be the culprit, but I figure I'll ask here before attempting to rollback.
EDIT: Soon after posting this, I tried something else. During windowed mode, on the initial boot, if I swap to full screen while the game is loading before the main menu, I can see a SBS image of the initial loading screen. However, once the main menu loads in, the game goes to a black screen with sound.

I am now running 384.94 and I just did a quick run on upscale+TaB and no problem for me. Your settings also look good.
However in case you haven't done yet, I suggest you first run the game without any mod (NO FAR NO 3Dmigoto, run uninstall.bat to remove everything first), then go to the game's graphics setting menu, change the game's resolution to 1920x1080 (I used 1600x900 and also works) and put the game in full screen. If you see black screen in game's original state, just push alt+enter once or twice, to ensure that the game is running correctly in fullscreen mode. Play a minute and be sure, before you put in the 3DVision and FAR fix.
Also, use "Advanced3DVConfig.exe" to ensure you have "3D enabled on game launch" and "3D Vision setup completed" checked (see post #2).

When I booted the game without anything else (no FAR, no 3D fix), I had to disable 3D vision via the Nvidia Control Panel for it to work properly. Disabling 3D Vision in-game via the pyramid caused the game to show a static image of the title screen (I'm guessing what was left in the buffer), but all sounds continue playing. I did notice that, despite removing the fix completely (via the uninstall script), I'm guessing it wrote out to the profile in the driver to attach the notice for the people who made the fix. As when it booted up with 3D enabled (but no community patch), it showed all of the names involved with the fix. Shouldn't that also be removed, or did I miss a lingering file?
Though, after manually disabling 3D Vision in the control panel, the game played normally.
The only other variables that I have that come to mind are:
[.]Multiple windows are open when opening the game (the game still starts in fullscreen, though)[/.]
[.]I have two monitors connected: My 1080p 3D monitor and an older monitor that's 1024x768[/.]
Also, when trying the fix this time, and I did check that 3D would enable on game launch, as per that config tool linked in the second post.

I have always had issues running this game the first time with the fix installed. I had to make sure it was working at my chosen resolution first, close cleanly and then install the fix and try. usually that would get it working otherwise I would get the issues you describe.
Try turning 3dvision off via the registry on startup and use Ctrl+T once you are in the game to turn it on.

Hello, I have a strange issue and maybe some kind soul can help me ;)
I try run the game at 1440p (with dsr 1.78) in 3d. I have Upscale and SBS shader on, tried to put 1440 rez in windows, in game, dxgi, and d3dx inis, but with this resolution SLI don't kick in.
On 1080p everything is fine and SLI indicator is nearly 100%.
but when I try to switch everything to 1440p, SLI indicator is flat and fps drop to 30.
I have a 1080 sli.
Thanks by advance.
Edit : I solved my issue.

Does anyone else have greyed/disabled in-game controls (like all Sound settings)? By the way, this is NOT a 3D Vision problem.
This problem may appear only with Steam version, but only with some setups. Square Enix was helping me to try and resolve the problem (which creates a game-stopping issue during 9S play through), but they decided it was a Steam problem. I am currently trying to get Steam to fix this unique problem, but Steam has been slow to pursue this complex issue.

When I downloaded this it gave me NieRAutomata_v.1.7.man. I renamed it to .rar and it seems OK but it sure seems odd it did that.
The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.
This just isn't happening for me. I've tried with and without FAR, pre-rendered frames 1 and auto, my native 1440p and 1080p resolution, starting with and without 3D kicking in at the start, uninstalling the mod and putting it back in again. None of it has really made any difference.
I'm able to start the game just fine. I get in, load up, continue my game, and everything seems great. The 3D is gorgeous! Then the graphics freeze within about 5 minutes. The game keeps playing and taking input but the screen stops rendering. Toggling 3D on and off again doesn't do a thing at this point. I expect I could exit the game if I had the menu options memorized but I have to use Task Manager and kill the thing off.

The 3D fix has nothing to do with the screen freezing. It's a well known Steam or game problem that occurs randomly. I'm surprised they haven't fixed it yet.
Btw the reason why the fix is downloaded as a .man file is that you're probably using Internet Explorer. Someone else had the same problem with IE which is the worst browser anyone could ever use imo.

You're right - I took the whole thing out and still got the issue. Turns out to have been the drivers. Mine weren't all that old so I guess NVIDIA did something in the past few months.
Also correct on IE. Brave downloads it correctly. That one is really weird! It's like it's getting some MIME type and wants me to save it that way but... .man?? The only time I've seen that extension used was in unix documentation files! Oh well, whatever.

OK, I've been at this a long time now. Here's what I've learned:
[.]For my 4 core CPU, starting the game with start /affinity 55 NieRAutomata.exe seems to help somewhat.[/.]
[.]The latest FAR mod is incompatible with this fix but an older version of FAR is included with the fix that does work.[/.]
[.]Expect to spend several minutes (it can easily be half an hour) just trying to get the game to survive the first 5 minutes. You'll be playing along and suddenly the graphics will stop dead while the game keeps playing. At this point, you're done. Alt-tab out and hit the X on NieR's window to kill it then try again.[/.]
[.]The crash can happen anywhere. Main game, menu screen, cutscene - it really doesn't matter.[/.]
[.]Once you do get it working, don't try to toggle off the 3D. It won't work and it's likely to crash the game.[/.]
[.]Pre-rendering frames made no difference to me at all.[/.]
[.]If I disable 3D then play the game, it's rock solid.[/.]
I don't know if the fix could be made better by making it compatible with the latest FAR update but I kinda doubt it. All in all, it just isn't a good port from the console version.
(The game itself is great, by the way! No JRPG fan should miss it.)

Weird crash there, sounds like a multi-threading bug in the game itself.
For that first five minutes problem- you might try setting the force_cpu_affinity=1 in 3Dmigoto d3dx.ini at top. That has 3Dmigoto force a single core to be used, and can sometimes help with multi-thread bugs.
Probably this will also hammer performance, but might make getting past that first 5 minutes more pleasant.

It worked the first time and certainly hurt performance but was still playable. The next two times I tried, though, I still got the freeze issue after a few minutes. Would the start /affinity command I'm already giving it interfere with the 3Dmigoto setting?
P.S. I rebooted between each try.
