Tomb Raider Nvidia 3D vision problem
  2 / 9
I believe SLI is working correctly on my system though, as I'm seeing performance increases in 2d mode, and in 3d mode on games that aren't TR.

Maybe try using NVidia Inspector to put Tomb Raider on a known good/working 3D profile, even if it botches the 3D. It would be interesting to know if it somehow fixes SLI.

I too have noticed this problem. In fact I first noticed it in GRID 2, but after reading this thread I fired up Tomb Raider and have the same issue. With SLI enabled both scale wonderfully without 3D Vision enabled. I get over 120 fps in both. But, with SLI and 3D Vision enabled, both give me about 20 fps if I am lucky. They are completely unplayable. Now, if I disable SLI and use 3D Vision both games are fine, but I have to lower settings some to keep at a fixed 60 fps. I am going to try a clean install but I suspect it is something with the 331.93 drivers. I only recently bought GRID 2 and have not played Tomb Raider in a bit, so I am not sure if this was introduced with 331.93 or an earlier one. I might also try messing with the SLI compatibility bits also. Is there some archive out there to know what the previous bits were as I think both games recently had profile updates? UPDATE: I tried 331.65 and 331.82 with no luck. Since I have a 780 Ti that is as far back as I think I can go. Both are playable on one card with lower settings but this is frustrating. I guess maybe I will play around with the SLI compatibility settings. They did not change for either game amongst the three drivers.

I´ll had this problem since Win 8.1. Rolling back to stock Win 8 fixed it for me. It´s also DX11 related, DX9 games runs fine in 3D mode. Tested with Batman Origins/City in DX9 and DX11, Tomb Raider, Trine 2, Alan Wake, Sleeping Dogs.

I believe you need a clean install of 8.1 for SLI to work, upgrade installs cause problems.

SLI work properly, no matter if Win 8 or 8.1,performance is the same without 3D. If i enable checkerboard mode under 8.1, the frames are very choppy between 20- 40 fps in Tomb Raider. 3DTVplay mode worked as it should, no problems. I did a fresh install of Win 8.1 and no improvement. My Sys: 2600K stock 2x 780GTX TI 16GB Corsair 1866 Playing on Samsung Smart TV UE46ES8090

I am glad I am not the only one though with this problem. I will have to test with the latest Batman and any other DX 11 games I have available to see if I can see the same pattern of only affecting DX 11 games in 3D. This is frustrating as I bought 2 780 Ti's even though they are overkill for 1080p to support steady 120 FPS for 3D Vision. How did you update to Win 8.1 and how did you do the roll-back? Did you do a system restore or was there an option to uninstall 8.l?

I have this same exact problem on my 690.. the fix for me is to switch the triple buffering off then back on in the in game menu. Once I do that the game goes back to playing normally. Make sure you're set to application preference for vsync in the Nvidia control panel too.

That finally fixed it for me. I would have never found that, but that works perfect for me now. I hope they sort it out in a future driver but at least this resolves it for now. Now I just need to sort out the GRID 2 issue.

Well b03b, looks like you were right. After reinstalling 8 to try and fix framerate issues with other titles, TR is purring away just fine.
One big difference between the 690 and other SLI setups is that it is a single card, even though it operates as SLI to NVidia. From reading about 8.1, it looks like Microsoft changed the underlying video model to version 1.3, and part of that is to more fully support that twisted hybrid model like Optimus, where the system can decide to use integrated graphics for power saving, and switch to discrete when something fun is running. It looks like there were some early problems where it would mark a 2nd adapter as not hybrid friendly because it wasn't the boot monitor. Mostly that seems fixed in 2D, but might still be the issue now when using 8.1 in 3D. It is suggestive that a single card SLI like 690 works, whereas multiple card SLI does not. There doesn't seem to be any clear solution, but a couple of things that stood out as possibilities: 1) Try hooking up a second monitor to your SLI card. The 2nd card is marked off only if it's 'not in-use'. 2) Try setting your secondary card as the boot monitor in the BIOS. 3) See if there are any BIOS settings that might change how your 2nd card is reported to the OS. 4) See if there is a BIOS update for your board that has any video changes.
1. I tried it with my older monitor, didn't work 2. didn't work either, still stuttering 3. There are none 4. I have the latest bios update already installed

Sorry for the late reply, I was away for 2 weeks. I started Tomb Raider again this morning but with the same issues, it's werid because when I turn off the 3D vision I get almost 100 % usage on both cards and around 150 fps on ultimate settings with tressfx on, but when I turn on the 3D vision I get only 30% usage on both of my cards with 10-15 fps....

This is my guess at how you'd go about doing so: 1. Download Windows 8 iso and burn to DVD. Look for a legitimate copy, not a pirated one (though pirate sites often have legitimate copies with the cracks separate). 2. Backup your PC using something like Shadowprotect or Acronis so you can roll back if need be 3. Boot from the DVD, install Windows 8. When asked for a serial, , google for a generic one on your phone and add that in. It won't activate, but that's ok. 3. Once booted into Windows, you should (I would think) be able to use your 8.1 serial. This is how it works with Windows 8 to 8.1, I'm not totally confident the process would work in reverse but it's the best I can find, there's not a lot of info on the licensing situation when going backwards.
