How to enable Alienware OptXâ„¢ AW2310 for 3D?
Hello guys,

I'm running my 3D vision setup, and it's not recognizing my Alienware monitor as 3D, although it is. On the options I can see that it's running on 60hz, I know that I need to run at 120hz, but this option is not enabled for me.

How can I enable it?

Thank you very much in advance.

Are you using the Dual Link DVI cable that shipped with the monitor?

No... I think that's the problem right?

But look, I've got a Asus G73S Series, and it doesn't have the DVI entrance, can I use adaptors?
Which options do I have?

Thank you!

Unfortunately the most you can do with almost all laptops is 3D TV play, as no manufacturers I know of use Dual Link DVI ports on the laptops.

I say almost, because im only 99.9% sure since I have never seen any laptop with a Dual Link port.

Sorry, didn't understand enough, can I use adaptors?
Or I won't be able to use 3D Vision at all? (After spending on Alienware Monitor + 3D Vision kit it would be hurtful to listen it)

Thanks.

If you are using a DVI to VGA dongle/Cable, i would suggest you not to do it from now on as it won't support 3DVision(As far as i know).

So, i insist you to purchase a DVI-D Cable(Ideally you should be given one DVI-D Cable along with the monitor - Check your box contents).
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/aw2310/en/ug/about.htm
DVI is not an option in your case as you are on Asus G73S Laptop which is already having 3DTVPlay thing by default.

I insist you to use HDMI cable instead.
And it doesn't let you use 120Hz as the 3DTVPlay software runs only in 2 resolutions i.e., 1980x1080@24Hz & 1280x720@60Hz.

I did get the DVI-D, but as you pointed out, it's not an option with Asus G73S laptop. Would I be able to run on 120hz using adaptors VGA-DVI?

Will I be able to use my Nvidia 3D kit to play at all? What's the diference between 3DTVPlay and 3D Vision? I don't have a 3DTV :(

Answering your questions..
No you can't run your monitor on 120Hz using VGA-DVI adapter/Dongle.
And why are you worried about refresh rate ? as you can run your 3D content on 60Hz as well.

Ooh..You mean you got Kit along with G73s Laptop ??
If that's the case, why would you want to watch your content on another monitor ?(instead of the monitor on the lappy).
A VGA cannot provide you 120Hz(as far as i know).

3DTVPlay is a software which you can purchase if you are running your monitor/3DTV(Sony/Samsung/LG/etc.,-->With 3D proprietary Glasses i.e., Non-Nvidia 3D googles) on HDMI(1.4) & you don't have kit(Emmiter)
3DVision is the software provided along with the driver & in order to enable it, you should to have a monitor which can be connected with DVI-D/HDMI and a emmiter.

Mind you, If you have the kit & you don't have monitor(lets say you took your kit to your friend but you wanna play 3DGames, Movies on your friends 46" Samsung 3D LEDTV), connect the emitter to the system which is connected to the 3DTV & your emmitter works as the license & you can now run your games on this PC + 3DTV only on 2 resolutions as mentioned earlier.

-------
And coming back again,
I believe you can run 3DContent on your laptop on any resolution(that's how 3DVision is supposed to), if not toggle the resolution to 1280x720@60Hz & try enabling 3D in NVControl panel, Launch the game & notice the 3D.--> If so, that means your laptop is 3DTVPlay but not 3DVision.

Sorry for sounding pretty stupid, but I'm really confused about this :P
I'll give you my setup:

Asus G73S, and my Alienware Monitor is plugged through HDMI on it. (60hz is the max refresh rate I can get)

I thought I was only able to get 3D on 120hz. Im running on 1920x1280 if I'm not mistaken, so maybe that's why 3D Vision setup told me I had no monitor for 3D Vision.

I'll try running on 1280x720@60hz to see what I get. I'll return later with what I've got.

Thank you very much :)

-EDIT

My alienware monitor (main monitor) doesn't have the option to 1280x720@60hz neither 1280x1080@24hz, and when I run my main monitor as my notebook one, I don't get the 3D menu on nvidia control panel.

The AW2310 is a simple 120Hz Display - no internal 3D-functions. It can only show 100Hz and more with a Dual-Link-DVI-cable. HDMI only allows a Single-Link-connection - no adaptor will change this.
The Nvidia-3D-Vision kit only works at 100Hz and above.

For your Laptop (3DTV-Play should be allready installed) you will need a HDMI 1.4 capable Display with internal 3D functions (3DTV).
3D will be limited to 1920x1080@24Hz and 1280x720@60Hz FramePacking-Modes.
