I seem to see alot of post around the net regarding performace of games when at max settings and running 3D Vision...
Just looking for some info / advice on a 3D Vision eater...
My next upgrade is going to be my GFX I am waiting for a GTX 485 or something (letting them pan out the bugs) but I see post that even the 480 struggles with some games on max settings and 3D!
So would GTX 480 SLI be enough to overcome that?
Considering my setup:
i7 920 (stock can raise no worries to atleast 3.8)
GA-EX58-UD5
GTX 295
6gig Kingston HyperX
If i was to add 2x480's and use the 295 physX will that work? - Keeping the temp to the side for now would I expect max settings 3D and smooth gameplay?
Or would something like just 2x480's be enough?
Or am I looking at a CPU and Mobo upgrade?
Just wanna get some ideas and see what I might be in for regarding the performance increase vs cost...
Maybe even just 1x480 and drop the 295 to physX
Keep inmind I have never ran with a dedicated physX card can you even use models that dont match?

I would recommend 480 SLI, your mobo and cpu are fine, and I also think you should sell your 295. I think a dedicated physx card is a waste due to the lack of games to use it on. I was running a 280 for physx but am currently trying to sell it...so I can get another 480 lol. Its true, with 3D a single 480 struggles with the newest games at the highest settings, and its all due to that 50% hit to the framerates. It seems like the best thing to do would be to see what you need for your resolution to run games normally with a single card, and then get another one so you can run the same settings in 3D (since you'd be able to max out pretty much every game, even in 3D this would be the most plug and play method). It sucks always having to adjust in game settings to try to keep a decent framerate in 3D, if [H] would only do reviews in 3D...or if another site copied their style for 3D reviews we could have a great resource for 3D gamers.

The heat won't be an issue unless you overclock them, I was running a 480, 280, and a Xonar sound card all at the same time, and I never had any issues. If heat was an issue, 3-way SLI would be impossible, as would 3D Surround as you'll need MAJOR power to run that, so you don't need to worry about the heat.

Yes and no. When games do use it the effects are quite nice. However, with 1, much less 2, gtx480s a dedicated physx card is pointless.
I would have to have the 2x480's right next to each other in order to use both 16x slots as the 3rd slot on my mobo is 8x...
Or would this not matter I could just put one in 16 and one in 8 and be fine?
I have two. I ran them 16 and 16 and then 16 and 8. 16 and 8 yeilded on average 4 less fps but 9 less C in temp due to the spacing. Temp was done on a 1.5 hour furmark test with prime95 running also.
