Why is 3D Vision 2 not compatible with the GTX 880M?
1 / 2
Why is 3D vision not included on the GTX 880M? I know it used to be. Why would that even be taken out and when is it going to be returned? I was just about to buy the 3D vision 2 kit to. Good thing I checked the GPU requirement.
Don't you want my business Nvidia?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, that's odd. I looked at the product page and 3D Vision isn't a feature.

You can try opening a support ticket. Just click where it says support at the top of the page.
3D Vision works just fine on the 880M. I use it everyday on my laptop...
1x Palit RTX 2080Ti Pro Gaming OC(watercooled and overclocked to hell)
3x 3D Vision Ready Asus VG278HE monitors (5760x1080).
Intel i9 9900K (overclocked to 5.3 and watercooled ofc).
Asus Maximus XI Hero Mobo.
16 GB Team Group T-Force Dark Pro DDR4 @ 3600.
Lots of Disks:
- Raid 0 - 256GB Sandisk Extreme SSD.
- Raid 0 - WD Black - 2TB.
- SanDisk SSD PLUS 480 GB.
- Intel 760p 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
Creative Sound Blaster Z.
Windows 10 x64 Pro.
etc
In order to use 3D, the laptop would need a 3D Vision certified integrated display.
Or you could use an external display, but only if you video output is directly connected to the Nvidia GPU. Check out this tutorial and pay attention to the 4th pic down.

You're using driver Version 352.86? With the 3D vision kit 2?

I have the Alienware Optx 2310. It worked before with the 1st 3d Vision Kit. But the new drivers no longer support that kit, which is why I wanted to upgrade, but if it's not even going to work, I don't want to waste the money. And according to the website, it won't.

I know, exactly, why would this particular gpu not support this technology. Especially, when it did so before? I'm hoping its a mistake maybe?
There is NO difference between 3D Vision 1 and 3D Vision 2 EXCEPT the glasses. The IR emitter is the same.
My Alienware laptop has a 3D Screen + 880M (as I wrote in the signature) and I am using 3D Vision 2 glasses.
On my desktop (which has 3D Vision 1 glasses and emitter) the 3D Vision 2 glasses work just fine.
So do the 3D VIsion 1 glasses on my laptop...
As a matter of fact I am using 353.00 on the laptop (so I can play with DSR and other stuff) and works just fine..
Your problem is somewhere else my friend... Try DDU and reinstall the drivers...
Also, ALL NVIDIA GPUS STARTING FROM GTX200 ARE 3D VISION COMPATIBLE!!! and support the feature...
Nvidia is just the worst company at advertising features... Why is not in the list? cause 3D Vision is considered "legacy" :)

Ok, I just noticed that on my desk top which has a GTX 660 that I am able to enable 3D stereoscopic thru the nvidia control panel.
But when I do the same thing with the GXT 880M, there is no option to enable the 3D stereoscopic.
Does the Nvidia control panel on your GTX 880M have the option to enable the 3D stereoscopic?
Please advise.
Wow, it's got to be the GPU. My old kit worked fine on the GTX 660.
Nvidia, why would you remove 3D Vision from the GTX 880M when it had it previously? I mean seriously, this is supposed to be the high end card of this series. And it definitely had it before.

They didn't remove it, there is something wrong with your laptop, or it's misconfigured.
Revert your driver to an older version as a check.

They must have removed it. I tested my 3D kit on my son's laptop. It has a GTX 555M and it has the "enable stereoscopic" option on it's nvidia control panel.
If I want to roll back the driver, do I have to uninstall geforce?

Bing, that was it. I rolled it back to an old driver and it worked.
Does this mean I can never update my drivers again?

Well, it would be worth trying to roll back forward to be certain, but use DDU to do a fully clean install. The drivers often get in a borked state.
