Reason for forced brightness levels on 22" 120Hz LCD monitors:

Good find, definitely sheds some light on the subject. I've come to get used to it anyway tbh. Can't wait till tax season though and we get our projector/DLP TV (not sure which yet; depends on what Optoma does).

so what happens when you adjust the brightness through the nVidia control panel? This is what we've been doing at work, although we had one user complain of eye strain after about 6-8 hours of image analysis. Could adjusting the brightness through the drivers have adversely effected the response time of the monitor?
