that's awesome. Has to be something related to VR. Hopefully they have been so busy working on 3D vision 3.0 and thats why they shit over 3D vision now. If we see Andrew Fear back on these forums then we will know for sure that something is coming. The Rift will NEVER see the light of day. GUARANTEED. There is no way they can supply thousands upon thousands of units being such a small company. They are building an IP in the VR world. They will be bought out by someone and the guys behind it (the Rift) will be board members and become filthy rich in the process. Maybe even Nvidia has already bought them out. Also, for those that don't know Valve is announcing some big things related to hardware in the next week. Steam Box most likely but, Valve may have bought out Oculus as well. PS4 also has a VR unit in development. Gotta give the Rift credit for starting the VR craze. Now, we just need a company with billions of dollars to make a commercial product that doesn't rely on off the shelf parts like ski goggles, and low rez phone screens. LOL

LOL
Disagree completely. They've already gotten VC money. Which is all that matters. All the big tech companies were little peons at one point. They grew because they had visionaries driving the company, and venture capitalists who were willing to back it. John Carmack is one of the true geniuses of our day. This guy is a tech god. He's not joining Oculus because they're business model is to get bought out. They're going for it. And what they lack in money, they more than make up for with intellectual power. As much as I love that Nvidia prototype, that thing is eons from being production ready. And that's ignoring the fact they simply gutted the innards of a 1000 dollar Sony HMZ-T1. I'm talking the tech behind it. I'd love for Nvidia, Valve, Sony, etc to all show tech. Tomorrow. But I think we're shortsighting just how much brainpower Oculus has amassed lately. The consumer device is going to be great. They've already confirmed they've eliminated all human perceptible lag from the tracking. Carmack recently tweeted about how to display text (old-school style) to get full pentile resolution in VR. Pentile resolution, from what I understand, is only used in OLED mobile screens. So you can read into that as you will. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised just how much better even Consumer 1 is going to be. I wouldn't even be shocked if we got a 1080p OLED running at 90hz. Palmer has made a lot of hz lately too. About how even 90hz vs 60 makes a massive difference in VR. This is a company composed of all-stars who love what they're doing. That's how great products come about. As for the low res screen dig, good luck with a mass market product from Sony. Resolution is meaningless. It's all about resolution per degree. That's the problem with VR right now. The FOV is so large. Go stick your head next to your TV and that'll suck too. Only insane resolution makes it go away without filters. And the PS4 is a lower powered machine that's locked in stone for the next 6 years. Sony's VR is going to be very low res.

@paul33d3 Palmer was walking around with a "hand-made" vr kit 2 years ago. Not eons ago, and he was a one man operation. Sonys VR cycle will be much shorter. It honestly wouldnt surprise me if it comes out at same time period as Rift. Sonys VR is not gauranteed to have low res. While likely limited to 720P @ 60hz on PS4. Its depends on if the inclusion of HDMI 2.0. HMZ-T# is a 1080P(per eye) device but limited by hdmi 1.4. Its probably not limited to just PS4 though it could be. Sony probably wants it able to play 3d movies as well, which may or may not translate to other devices such as PC. No facts about it are available. I am hoping it will but that doesnt mean it will. ------------------------------------------------------------ TBH, though I dont like the amount of support nvidia has been offering if they do a decent job at whatever this device is. They are most likely to succeed. Simply from a content standpoint/non-reliance on developers for full support. That and they are they are willing to pay out of their own coffers for support. They sell vr kits + video cards. Rift just sells units, the only incentive they can offer a developer is that it might increase sales over cost/time of implementation.

It would be nice if your right, and yes people like John Carmack are genious. But, Oculus is a tiny company. Imagine Oulus on Dragons Den or Shark Tank. Kevin would just ask "whats to stop me from taking your product and copying it and making it better?" "Do you any patents? Anything proprietary?" Yeah you can start a software business from your garage and become the richest man on the planet, but forget about doing that with hardware. You talk as if you've seen an Nvidia prototype VR? How do you know its the innards of the HMZ-1? This is all news to me.

They used like 20% of the framework [the plastic] from an hmz-t1 when showing the prototype. I believe even Palmer did something similiar with his initial projects, I think even the demo of the first rift was as well [Just black taped over]

I am guessing their VR prototype as well. If they do make one I hope this means we get a focus on 3D again from them.
