Hello there,
So, I've been tinkering with this for a while, but I can't understand what's wrong, at all.
Compatibility mode simply doesn't work for me. At all. Ever.
When I start a game, I see green text in the bottom right saying
"This application is not rated by NVIDIA corp.
Rating: unknown
Press Ctrl-Alt-Insert - to toggle this message"
http://i.imgur.com/P1EVUPK.png
Ctrl-Alt-Insert does indeed remove it.
Here are my keyboard shortcuts

(edit: appeared to have grabbed the screenshot while the cursor was blinking - it's set to Ctrl-T, not Ctrl-|)
Ctrl-T works, ctrl-alt-insert works.
Convergence buttons (in games that sort of work out of the box) works. Depth works too.
I managed to get a few fixes working from the 3d fix manager.
But, ctrl-alt-f11 never does anything. Ever. I've swapped other commands onto ctrl-alt-f11 to make sure it works, and swapped toggle compat on ctrl-t and still nothing.
I've swapped profiles in nvidia Inspector. I've DDU'd and reinstalled more times than I can count.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be at play here?
Thanks in advance.

It doesn't work because the game probably doesn't have a Cm profile.
You can add it if the game uses dx11.

if you can't figure out the method described by helifax
Thanks D-Man,
It's not that I can't figure out the method described by Helifax, it's that it simply doesn't work.
I've also used the Inspector method on a number of titles, to no avail.
I've even tried it with the actual games - Bioshock Infinite and AC3, but nothing I do activates it.
If the overlay says to use ctrl+alt+F11 to turn off CM, then the profile import worked. But not all settings work with all games.
A setting that enables 3D CM in one game, might simply do nothing in another game, yet the overlay will still appear.
That's why it might just be easier for you to cycle thru those 18 profiles.
Also CM "only" works with dx10 and 11 games.
Also when asking for help, a person should mention things like their OS, Display Type and driver version.
Well, that's part of the problem, you see. I'm sorry, I guess I explained myself terribly?
I've never seen mention of compatibilty mode. All I ever see is this:

Whereas I understand compatibility mode should actually announce itself, like this:

or this

if it's any help, I'm on Win 7, GTX1080, Asus g-sync compatible monitor, driver 382.05 (I always keep up to date).
The 3d fix for FFIII worked fine, but that wasn't using compatibility mode.
Ok, because I was thinking that you might be using a driver that was prior to CM being launced.

You must not have the advanced short cut keys enabled?
edit: nvm, I just looked at your screenshot above
Typically the last line in the overlay mentions turning CM off, I also thought that it might be a scaling issue that was cutting it off, but that's obviously not the case.
Have you ever locked the registry for any reason? It might be effecting this if you did
I checked Murdered Soul Suscpect 368.39, W7, 980ti, G-Sync Dell S2717DG. It was working normally, turned CM off and On, the overlay correctly showed ctrl+alt+F11 as the keys to do so.

BTW, whenever you start a game after doing a fresh install and the profiles haven't been touched.
If you see...
"This application is not rated by NVIDIA corp.
Rating: unknown
Press Ctrl-Alt-Insert - to toggle this message"
That means that Nvidia has never officially made a profile for that game. As soon as you press Ctrl+alt+insert, a profile is generated with default settings and is stored with the others. The default profile that is "generated" "will not" include a CM profile

Also, when you are doing it helifx's way, you will not necessarily get the messages, unless you add those id settings to the profile as well.

So when you try Assassin's Creed III or Bioshock Infinite you still get a not rated/unknown message? ...or do you get a normal message and it's just the CM isn't enabled?

From what he said so far I get the impression that every game he's ever tried is showing an Unknown Rating whether or not CM is enabled which sounds like a really major issue, maybe a corrupted driver or some other weird thing happening on his system :/
So, zingfharn, the first thing I would ask is if you've actually tried playing a 3D-vision Ready game or some other game that works without CM and shows a Good or Excellent Rating in the bottom-right.

The next version of 3D Fix Manager (1.17) will have a feature to force compatibility mode (automatically unlocks CM in driver profile and game starts with CM enabled by default so you don't have to press strg + alt + f11). Maybe this will help you. I've nearly finished developing version 1.17 (still have to do some final testings). Release will be definitely this week.

Ok, so to deal with things one a time.

Yep - if it's not in fullscreen, it won't even fire up 3d, in my experience, let alone compat mode.

Never seen the good or excellent rating. I have played Firewatch and FFIII-2 with the 3d hotfixes from helixmod, and they worked great.
For stuff that works out of the box, I'm just re-downloading Batman: Arkham City, and I'll update you.

Amazing. Ok. It sounds like the best thing to do is wait for this, and test against games that should definitely change the green display on the bottom right. Then we can establish if it's me being incredibly incompetent (I hope it's that simple), or a more serious issue with the reg/windows.
