We've had Direct X 11 for years now.
Why do we still want DX9 games? When I bought my DirectX 11 card years ago, I was hoping for games and 3D Vision to utilize it, and even now when I am without a gaming desktop, I still see people wanting DX9 games to be made. I don't. I want game technology to finally move to being DX11 and 64-bit native, I for one am tired of DX9 and 32-bit games. Now with 11.1 on the horizon and Direct X 12 looming in the future, PC games really need to stop being DX9, its been holding gaming technology back for too long.

Because devs often don't spend the time making 3D compliance for a lot of games, and there are no tools available to fix problems in DX9. I am sure all of us agree dx11 games would be much better, but I also like to use my kit.

Its cause of modding. No offense but do you have a 3D display yet? Its kind of hard to explain otherwise. You kind of need to see a game that doesnt support 3D or render well to understand. I guess I'll try though. Basically a developer has to support 3D for it to be gauranteed to work in 3D vision. But games can still work with varying degree. DX9 games have a higher odds of being moddable so if they are DX9 we are generally happy but they also have higher chances of rendering properly. The more advanced shader techniques a game uses the more issues we risk. So if a game doesnt announce 3D support we generally hope its dx9. Basically NVIDIA needs to improve renderer or we are gonna have more issues and alot less games. DX12 is not really looming, 11.1 has 0 games at the moment and probably will remain that way unless they port it over to windows 7 but anywho. At the moment its kind of a bad idea to be involved with nvidia 3d vision. Something may change, nvidia talked about improvements, but *shrug* they lie a lot. A lot of people are following the occulus rift, but tbh if you care more about graphics then 3D/VR that's also not for you.

Put simply that there are tools to fix DX9 games, but as of right now, the community can't fix games from DX10 onwards. If a dev puts out a game that doesn't work in 3D, its a DX11 game but can run in DX9 if you select it as an option (e.g. Farcry 3), then woopie, people can play it. If a game doesn't bother to support DX9 (e.g. Bioshock Infinite), it can't be fixed.

I've used one before, and yeah I will agree that games that are unsupported can have major issues rendering in 3d with nvidia's 3d vision technology. I've seen it, objects rendering incorrectly, the 2d crosshair being an issue, shadows being problematic, things like that. Yeah, Nvidia's been way too quiet about 3D Vision for too long, were they even specific about what improvements? Yeah, I realize its a bad time to be involved with nvidia 3d vision, wish 3d took off more than it did. I know dx12 is not coming right away, but its the next step after the 11.1 update. I like graphics and gameplay, but I also like the immersion 3d or VR can give to me, and its pretty bad that Nvidia has been silent about 3d vision, seriously, when was the last time they even talked about it or been around here on the forums to listen to our input?

Well tbh, the doom sayers kind of make this year look terrible. This last year has been the best year in 3D due to Helix. However Nvidia did jack this year so when we get no more DX9 games we are bit unsure of future. Regardless of him being able to get any thing going DX11 it really doesnt sound easy. This month may change things because there is "supposedly" two games supporting 3d vision but I dunno. We are either waiting for nvidia to step up/community solution/Occulus Rift perhaps Tridef. Tbh, you should really check back in like 6 months unless you don't mind playing a laundry list of awesome older games.
