Best use of 3d in PC Gaming
  1 / 2
What games in your guys opinion are top five in the use of 3d. So far I have conquered Dead Space 3 and the 3d was absolutely amazing. Is there a consensus for certain games using 3d better than others?

It's really tough to say. As long as the games display 100% properly, we can tweak them to our own idea of 'perfection'. I don't really feel like any of the games that I've played actually 'use 3D', not like they do in 3D movies, anyway. There's no wagging stuff in your face to make it pop out like in the movies but on the other hand it's so much better, less of a gimmick and more of an actual purpose. 3rd person games tend to look a little more '3D' than FPS, because your character and the gameplay are front and center instead of just a big ol' gun but there's also good side-scrollers like Trine and Limbo, even some top-down games like Zombie Driver and Renegade Ops, some glitching in that one though. I haven't gotten around to trying as many games as I should, too busy playing them, but here's a list of games that I've liked in 3D that I don't think are your typical answer, like Dead Space 1 & 2, etc. Limbo Ys: The Oath in Felghana Zombie Driver Psychonauts http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/10/psychonauts.html Darksiders

Haven't got through them all yet, but the Asssassins Creed titles are very impressive in 3D. Properly being able to see what your jumping to and looking down from buildings is really great.

Well my obvious answers are already listed. Overall - Trine 2 rpg- Witcher 2 shooter- dead space 2 Legend of Grimrock- Im not sure if this title would make it on my top 10 list but I thought it would be good to list a non-known 3d title in the same vein that tsabetht did above. Its just one of those titltes like dead space 2/trine 2 that "work" in 3d. There is something special about legend of grimrock in 3D. The narrow passages, the huge monsters, its just really cool. No shadows is a huge downer but game is pretty awesome regardless. Ive always felt skyrims best strength was inclosed areas (caves/castle). So its no surprise that it works well imo. Unfortunately i hate dungeon crawlers. I played it for several hours though which is a testament to how cool it looks in 3d. This may sound like a "self-plug" but tbh ripping shadows from a game is pretty easy. My favorite games played in 3D so far: Darksiders was awesome. Looked like I was controlling a big War action figure inside a huge plastic play-set. I hope Darksiders 2 looks as good. I need to play it, as it's in my large Steam backlog... Dead Space 1 and 2 (haven't purchased 3 yet). These were epic in 3D. Gatling Gears. Like playing with toy robots! Titan Quest also looked like I was controlling a little action figure from a top-down view. Descent 1 and 2 using Dxx-Rebirth and GLDirect. Breathes new life into some old favorites of mine. Painkiller. Makes the massive bosses much more intimidating. Serious Sam HD (First and Second Encounter). These games work well with some .ini file editing to remove dynamic lights and shadows.

Without a doubt Dead Space 2 is probably my number one - with the Helix fix of course then Skyrim followed by Fallout 3/New Vegas then Gothic 3 with community patch, amazing open world and last but not least.......hmmmmmm I'll say The Witcher Enhanced Edition with High Res texture and camera mod....of course this list will change every other day when I play something else....lol....Dead Space 2 will stay constant though.
