Nvidia 3D Vision Kit 2 IR Base Replacement
I bought the kit about half a year ago I think and about 2 weeks of owning it, the awkwardly exposed USB cord hanging out of the back of the IR base got a hard back book fall on it from my shelf. This caused the USB connector to dislodge the USB port from the board inside the IR Base, rendering the product useless afterwards... I tried to look everywhere for an IR base replacement that was sold separately like the glasses, but couldn't find anything and due to not being able to return it to the place I bought it, I was just pretty much left with some funky looking shades that cost me almost £100 lol. So recently my friend told me to post something in the forums and see if Nvidia offer any repair/replacement services for either free or for a fee. I was just starting to enjoy the glasses and make the best of the 3D and the flimsy easily breakable USB port on the IR Base just had to go and ruin everything haha. I would be REALLY grateful if there would be a way for me to get some help with repairing/replacing the IR base from an Nvidia Support member that won't entail me buying the whole product all over again. Thanks in advance, for any that helps. :)

There's supposedly refurbished emitters on e-bay. One is listed as... "Original Emitter for Nvidia® 3D Vision System refurbished, with unique manual worth its wt in GOLD!" I've wonder what the heck "unique manual worth its wt in GOLD!" is?

If the componentboard inside the emitter isn't seriously damaged i see no reason why it shouldn't be possible. One option is to trash an existing usb-cable and solder the wires it into correct place within the emitter, thus skipping all hazzle with finding suitable connectors all together. Just find a way to make the cable firmly attached to the emitter so that a pull doesn't load the solderings.

I bought refurbished one from ebay as well. Those solder points on the the usb sockets suck. It falling is a HUGE risk. I unfortunately suck at soldering. I guess we know where all those refurbished ones come from.

As for soldering the inside part back in, I can't even see where you open the thing up and I'm unsure if it's too damaged to solder back in, due not not knowing where to open this tiny thing. It really looks like they didn't want people to open it up and it annoys me that something so important to the kit is soooo flimsy and easily breakable lol.

Most likely pull off the rubber pads on the bottom to expose screws.

If it's just that the solder joints cracked and not the traces/board being broken, all it should take is a little flux and a small iron. Put flux on the solder spot and heat it just enough to melt it. If it's the board or a trace, you'd have to follow the trace to another solder point and run a small insulated wire between the two ... I love soldering :) I replace all my LED(SMD)s in my 360 controllers and anything else I can, like the wireless receiver ... they're 1mm x 1.5mm with 2 solder joints. :D
