Rise/Shadow of the Tomb Raider: SBS 3D to 3D Vision conversion possible?
1 / 2
Hello Guys
As many of you know, there's native SBS 3D support for both ROTTR and SOTTR which also works with DX12 exclusive full screen. I've seen that this works really well with my old Samsung 1080p 3D TV.
However, I mostly game on my 1440p Asus PG278QR with Nvidia's 3D Vision that only works with DX11 exclusive full screen mode for both the games. However, even with 2 x GTX 1080s, there are several regions of the game where SLI scaling is bad and I get terrible FPS drops.
Just out of curiosity, I wanted to benchmark these games in DX12 SBS 3D mode on my 1440p monitor with 3D Vision turned off. I see that I'm getting an average of 81 FPS for SOTTR in 1440p SBS 3D mode which is really quite awesome. No FPS drops since DX12 AFR mode works almost flawlessly utilizing both GPUs very well. Obviously, this is just a benchmark and I can't play with two half images displayed on the screen simultaneously.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows if we can somehow "convert" these SBS left/right frames into alternating full frames that will work with Nvidia 3D Vision. Essentially, the game outputs SBS left/right frames and this "converter" converts into the format that 3D Vision can work with (similar to how a 3D TV essentially does this conversion). Has anyone tried this sort of conversion or is it even technically possible?

With 3Dmigoto it's possible to do that kind of conversion... in DX11. It's what I did in PCSX2 (SBS and TAB modes to 3D Vision) before I learned how to stereoize the emulator myself.
We don't have tools to modify shaders in DX12, so we can't do that yet.
I wonder why there isn't a proper 3D Vision Direct mode for the DX12 API in these Tomb Raider games. Does 3D Vision Direct not exist for DX12? 3D Vision Automatic exists, and for example Serious Sam Fusion runs pretty well (except for a few broken effects).

@masterotaku, thanks for this info. I too wonder why there's no support for 3D Vision in DX12 mode exclusive full screen.

If you start tombraider (Rise or Shadow) with DX12 and 3D Vision enable the game doesn't even load.[/quote]
For ROTTR, Stereoscopic 3D can be turned to 'On' in DX12 non-exclusive full screen, and 3D Vision does kick in. However, the performance here is not great in non-exclusive full screen mode and has visual bugs such as certain water streams rendered only in one eye and flickering on some shadows when in SLI.
SOTTR, like you mentioned, simply refuses to start with DX12 if 3D Vision is turned on (either in exclusive or non-exclusive full screen).
I'm wondering if the devs will ever bother implementing proper 3D Vision support in DX12 given that ROTTR also didn't have 3D Vision support on launch and it was mostly a community driven effort that got us 3D Vision in the end. So, I was looking at ways to somehow convert SBS 3D to 3D Vision in DX12 :)
Otherwise, I guess the only option is to get an RTX 2080 Ti which is likely going to give us 60 FPS on average in DX11 mode for 1440p 3D Vision, which is a really expensive investment :D

You mean 3dvision enable in nvidia control panel or in game because here SOTTR crash in DX12 even with 3D of in TB launch screen.
Do you achieve to have DX12 work with 3D off in SOTTR?

@chtblue
When I have it enable 3D Vision in NVidia Control Panel the game don't even start (DX12 enabled first menu)
The point I made was 3D Vision doesn't work with DX12
Tombraider (Rising and Shadow) work with DX12 and the build in 3D SBS 3D Vision must be disabled in NVidia Control Panel.
For SOTTR I had the ability to chose Side By Side or On for Stereoscopic settings, after changing Gpu(1080 Ti to 2080 Ti) I can now only see Side By Side option. Any opinion please?

Yes, you need a profile update, so use 3Dfix manager, it will update profile
