3D TV with dual link DVI input? still no way ?
Hi, reading around the net it looks that all 3D TVs availble on the market does not have a Dual link DVI input, so basically all tvs are bandwidth limited by their HDMI 1.4 inputs.
So there are NO models where 3d gaming can be compared to the one available on 120hz pc monitors ?
Does anyone has some update on this ? No companies are moving to this direction yet ?
I will not buy a 3dtv without a full 60hz HD support! i prefer changing my 22 120hz to the full hd 24 one..

When using 3DTV Play on a 3D HDTV, you run the game at 720P at 120Hz. You could technically run a game at 1080p @24Hz but it would not be very smooth.

By "compare" do you mean image quality or pixels per frame?

I'm betting you've never eye witnessed gaming on a HDMI1.4 Plasma or LED at 1920x1080/60 checkerboard.

i mean full hd @ 60hz for each eye (120Hz), i don't want any kind of checkerboard (half pixels basically) or lower refresh rates (24 fps full hd).
I just want to play the same way i'm playing on my samsung 2233rz, but in full HD and on a bigger (and quite expensive) tv screen, so there are no 3d tv with dual link inputs as far as you know?

I was looking also for DLP TV but they're all big and also many models are not available in Europe unfortunately, and in any case i would love to connect them in the same way i connect my samsung now, and not by the hdmi port, so i will be full featured and not castrated by HDMI limitations.

I would love also a DLP PC monitor with dual link DVI input and a "normal" size, like 24'', but it looks it doesn't exists yet., probably there are technical difficulties to shrink DLP technology to small pixel size, just wondering...

I'm sure checkerboard (960*1080) and 720p (1280*720) are also nice but why i should accept those compromises if i can already play with a better quality on my pc monitor ?
If i have to accept this solution i will go then for a polarized solution TV instead, so i will not have to became crazy with syncs, emitters and stuff like that, and we can watch movies with more people simultaneously using very cheap glasses, also 3D mkvs are "checkerboard" quality (half side-by-side)and today's 3dtv doesn't accept mkv in 3840*1080, or L R files in full HD (can be avoided using Nvidia 3DTV play btw if i'm not wrong, so your pc will do the decode job)

At this point a 3d tv purchase is a no go for me, really hope for a tv with a dual link dvi input (display port also maybe ? does it has enough bandwidth to manage 1920*1080@120Hz ?)
I will look to upgrade my PC monitor instead and get the full hd 24'', cheaper and better :D, and i keep my panasonic CRT 28 inches TV that is still perfect when i want play Point Blank on my psx or House of the Dead on my Dreamcast :) try shooting games on LCD/PLasmas/DLP/WII/XBOX360/PS3, so terrible /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

The perfect TV of my dreams:

-OLED Technology 40/46 inches max
-Dual link DVI input
-decent price!!
-support from Nvidia to use the above one as a pc monitor

is nothing abstract, and is the thing we should expect today :(

I share your sentiment, unfortunately you cant get anything at 120hz thats bigger than 27" right now with a dual link DVI input.

Any news on this? Does anyone knows if there is a tv model coming out with a dual link dvi or a displayport input in order to use 3dvision in full hd at 120hz ?
it looks like they have problems implementing this kind of inputs on tvs, maybe a matter of hdmi exclusive and/or macrovision??
I'm waiting for this to happen in order to purchase an lcd/plasma/dlp/oled/whatever tv basically.
hope my old catode tv will last that long!!
It's really crazy, there is the technology right on our hands but they just ignores that...
maybe they think there is no market for such implementation? i don't get the point!

Dude,

I doubt you'll ever see a 3DTV having features such as displayport or DVI-D. TV's focus on console gaming only, PC is just an addition most TV manufacturers don't pay much attention to it. That's why they never bothered about 1080p60hz for 3D gaming, cause 720p is the 3D gaming mode, since Xbox and PS3 use this resolution for most games and 3D 720p is already a lot of effort for consoles, they can't handle 1080p in 3D. 1080p24hz was designed for bluray3D, cause 24hz is the optimal refresh rate for BD3D. It's been proved that most TVs can handle 1080p30hz for gaming, but we have only 24hz for 1080p cause this mode wasn't designed for gaming, but bluray3D.

I really don't think TVs manufacturers will ever consider doing efforts and adding features such as DVI-D or Displayport to provide better 3D gameplay to PC users cause TVs manufactures are not worried about PC gamers. IF consoles move foward and require 1080p60hz for gaming we will have new TVs coming up with HDMI 1.5 standards. 99% of people that buy TVs don't care about these HDMI 1.4 limitations, all they care is how their movies and consoles will look in the bigger screen. 3D PC gamers are really a minority, so you can be sure they don't give a damn about these technical limitations that only 3D Vision users get upset about.
That's why we buy monitors, cause they are made for PCs and support connections such as displayport and DVI-D.

When consoles finally move foward with the PS4 and a new XBox, than we might see HDMI 1.5 that will support 1080p60hz and have true 120hz input. That's just my opinion though, cause DVI-D have been arround for quite some time, and there isn't a TV in the world that has it. HDMI is the default connection for TVs.

Just bringing this old thread back to life... 1 year and 9 months later. Im finding myself in this same dilemma. I want to buy a 3D TV in the January sales for gaming on my PC. The current TV I use for gaming is a really old 720p TV that works fine but I want to start gaming in 3d. Naturally I want the best experience. Using a monitor is not an option as my living has been converted to my gaming room. I ask the same question. Does anyone know of a TV that support DVI-d that will run 1080p 3d @ 60hz? Thanks

A lot of experienced 3DTV owners here recommend a projector over it, have you considered that? The 4k Panasonic has displayport and i think most of the other 4k TVs have been converted to HDMI 2.0 already. If it will 1080p frame packing with an Nvidia card i do not know. Really need Nvidia's help with this one, but they might not even have tested this yet.
