Gentlemen, any chance we can tone it down? Pretty sure I also speak for others when I say the pointless bickering gets old fast. It's illogical to argue about who is going to win in a market that has yet to even demonstrate it is real.
There is something really bizarre about the way humans are made, and the absolute need to dominate for their tribe. The tribal nature had a great ability make us succeed as a species, and might be the greatest reason that we fail.
As a way to tone it down- how about we just fight with links instead? Prove your point with data, and I think we can all pay attention. Or make a nicely reasoned argument like eqzitara did, make it just your personal opinion. Let me repeat, there is no chance in hell any of us can see the future of VR.
In any case, no question that the Adrift looks like a compelling experience. Thanks for sharing that. I can certainly understand the anger for being a Rift exclusive, at least at present. On the other hand, Valve had the opportunity and plenty of time to ship something bold like Portal 3- and did not.
I'm personally not so sure about room tracking being that compelling. I'm sure it makes for a fantastic demo, but we already have one example of room tracking failure- Kinetic.
I'm still planning to buy a Vive though, because I want to compare them both. I'll report back, and sell the one I think is weakest. In about 6 months when things are more clear.

Conan should be banned for the comments he has made.
He's started trolling from the second comment on the thread.
People keep pointing out that the rift can't make proper use of the chaparone system as it doesn't have the camera etc but it's like he doesn't see the posts.
He's blind sided. Like a religious nutter.
He's put videos of himself working for oculus as a cable bitch, whilst saying he doesn't have a biased opinion on what VR to get.
I tried to report him but the feature is broken.
I've not been aggressive once in this thread. It's Conan with the bi polar issues jumping on everything I say but ignoring everyone else telling him the same thing!
Anyway, I'm going to get the vive later.
The rift times exclusive games were the only thing putting me off but I've realised I don't want to support oculus for that very reason.
They are trying to fragment the VR market before it's even started.

Well said bo3b.
There's no way of knowing which headset will "win", so there's not much point in fighting about it. It doesn't really matter who started it, or who said what - perhaps you could both let it go for now? At least if you leave it for 12-18 months, you might both be able to present some more hard facts.

about oculus controller, promising. don't know anymore which one to buy !

I'm most likely getting the Vive as well. Preorders start in 30 min.
Gibson has no idea what he's talking about. I'm gonna be civil, but I recommend that people IGNORE everything he says because he is very uninformed and has a very basic understanding and acts like he's an expert.
I've backed up everything I've said with links and I can find more, while Gibson posts moronic photos that prove he is an idiot. I've explained how SteamVR works multiple times and it's not my fault that he cannot understand.
I'll explain one more time and again, none of this is my OPINION, it's just a fact.
A DEVELOPER CREATES A GAME AND PUBLISHES SAID GAME ON STEAMVR. THE DEVELOPER CHOOSES WHAT TYPE OF VR EXPERINCE THEY ARE OFFERING. EX, ROOM SCALE, STANDING, SEATED, ETC.
STEAM VR DECIDES WHAT HARDWARE IS CAPABLE OF PLAYING THE GAME. IF A GAME IS PUBLISHED AS ROOM SCALE ONLY, STEAVR LISTS THE COMPATIBLE HARDWARE FOR STEAMVR. THE DEVELOPER HAS NO SAY AS TO WHAT HARDWARE IS COMPATIBLE WITH STEAMVR THE DEVELOPER HAS NO SAY AS TO WHAT HARDWARE IS COMPATIBLE WITH STEAMVR THE DEVELOPER HAS NO SAY AS TO WHAT HARDWARE IS COMPATIBLE WITH STEAMVR.
VALVE HAS STATED THAT THE OCULUS RIFT WILL BE 100% ROOM SCALE COMPATIBLE WHEN TOUCH RELEASES. THIS MEANS THAT ANY STEAMVR GAME THAT USES ROOM SCALE WILL WORK ON THE RIFT WITH TOUCH. THE END.
As for the other misinformation about chaperon. Yes the Rift is capable of it as well as i've provided many links to prove it again. You use the rift controller to outline the edge of your playspace, and an ingame wall will show up letting you know that you are nearing your playspace, just like the vive. The only thing is that it doesn't have the front facing see through camera on the Rift, so you won't see that matrix like outline.
Please don't make your purchasing decision because of people like Gibson. Read through his previous posts, and see why so many people actively hate him on this forum. I'm one of the most civil people here, except I can't stand him.
I'm also not fighting about which headset will win, as I don't really care. If any of you know me, I'm always trying to get the best experience and I've had more 3D vision setups then anyone here. I'm just trying to help people make a decisions here because I like this community, and I'm providing facts, while Gibson is posting stupid pictures and links to threads that are months old and are invalid due to the StemVR annoucement from last week stating support for the Rift in roomscale.
I said from the beginning it's best to wait it out anyway, but I'm too impatient and I'm always the early adopter and I don't mind getting burned.
No one knows how room scale will work between the Rift and the Vive, as the touch is not even out yet and may be different then the developer kit.
I did read some technical stuff about the Vive and Rift tracking, and both are basically doing the same thing, but with total opposite methods, BUT both provide incredibly accurate and robust tracking system that operate in the 1000hz range.

Anyway, I got both on preorder now.....now the worst part is waiting.
I figure If I'm not impresses with the Vive games, I'll just sell it.
I'm much more impressed with the Rift lineup and If I had to choose I'd still get the Rift, but I can't choose.....LOL.
How do you post pictures here? I can post my order because I'm sure the trolls will say that I didn't even order it at all.
Do you guys even care much about VR? or should I just not mention it here anymore? I could do a nice comparison once I get both, but maybe this is the wrong forum and I should shut up about it?
Gibson, I don't work for Oculus you #$&#^@#, I posted that video as a joke, and that's not me. LOL If I was that good looking and had a body like that, do you think I'd be online arguing with twats like you? LOL No, I'd be out getting me some....

Jesus Conan, you're like a dog with a frisby.
Let it go!
You've ignored Paul, eqzitara, Birthright, mailman ex.
All saying the same thing.
I've posted links which you've ignored. The links you've posted even say that FULL chaparone system will not work with the rift due to the lack of camera. You've not even mentioned that!
I stand by original statement that you are a deluded fanboy who is emotionally invested in the rift!
Very sad.
I ordered my vive at 3:06 so hopefully should get it early on.
Going to cancel the rift preorder now. I'll have a look at that bearer Christmas when the touch controllers are out.
Someone else tell me I'm wrong and I'll shut up.
If we can have full 360 degree room tracking with the rift with no occlusion problems then I'm sold.

@GibsonRed
You call Conan a brainless Oculus fanboy but you are doing exactly the same with HTC. You've cancelled your Rift pre-order for a Vive? Good for you but why everyone else should do the same? You work for HTC? For Valve?
On my side, I don't trust HTC as a company, I don't like the Vive's looking, I think that Oculus touch have far more potential than the Wiimote-like Vive's controllers, and I won't spend 1000 euros in something if there's no exclusive quality game to play with at launch. And I think that this Chaperone thing is a useless gimmick to impress uninformed people. Just like this roomscale hype.
This is my point of view, and I'm not trying to convert people to it.

I've never told anyone to not get a rift.
I wanted the rift first and foremost but the POTENTIAL room scaling issues have put me off.
It's being told to fuck off and being called a mongoloid I have issues with.
I like a debate and to bounce ideas around but when you are dealing with someone who can't see past his own opinions,
who doesn't listen to reason as he has no reason to listen, especially when he works for oculus, then starts throwing insults at you whilst simultaneously ignoring other forum members saying pretty much the same thing as me, that's where I draw the line.
Any way. I don't think anything else can be said that hasn't been said already.
I'm hyped for VR now. Cannot wait to get my hands on both headsets.
I wonder if you can use the vive controllers and room scaling in combination with the rift headset? Now that would be cool.
I should imagine people will hack the rift exclusive games to work with the vive anyway at some point.
Now that we can make 3dtv play work in SBS mode does that mean we can use software like vorpx and get the amazing 3D vision fixes working in VR?
Who else has ordered?

Ordered both, completely undesided which one should I cancel :D
Speaking about 3dtv play in oculus/vive. 1st - somehow you should make 3dvision kick-in (edid override?). But then, if you are successfull you can use 3dmigoto with SBS shaders + shaders for distorting image I guess.

Vive preorders sell out in 18 minutes....
http://vrfocus.com/archives/30355/htc-vive-pre-orders-sell-out-in-minutes/
it would be awesome to play through all the 3D fixed games on the rift or vive.
No crosstalk, no loss of brightness, full immersion.
usijg vorpx and 3DTV Play would be amazing
DAMN! I was just about to take a look and now I see all pre-orders are out:)) Sucky moment to be at work hahaha:))
I am actually observing this passively;) I am interested in VR but I am not willing to pay for both kits just to see which one is better;)
What I'll do is wait...until the end of the year. By then we will have some good reviews and pick the one that is more widely spread, supports 3D Vision fixes (VR Direct) or at least has a potential of supporting 3D Vision fixes (by developing our own wrapper).
For me none of the line-up looks spectacular and currently both of them are like 4K TVs with satellite connection only....and I lack a satellite receiver (if you understand my meaning) :)
Looking forward to see which one the community will adopt and which one you will think is better hardware AND SOFTWARE wise;)

hmm actually site says its in stock - I checked for germany and us. Which country pre orders are out?
Its going to turn into an indie exclusive war till someone dies off or something major is announced. Ill wait for then and hope for a price drop.
They both messed up by not building release around some major game. No one has faith in the brand [VR] let alone with competition. I sat awake at 10:00am to see if Valve at least put a friggin hidden logo of a game or something. Nope. Passed.
$800 is a lot of money but I would give up a lot of life luxuries for like half a year to manage but lack of faith in either means I am holding it.
-------------------------
They sold out for the same reason that Oculus's sold out. They under produced to create hype. Look at Nintendo's amiibo's everyone was like meh when first heard they were coming out. Then they were day one sold out and continuously sold out even with new brands and kept getting media coverage.
When people don't realize.... its just plastic. Its an action figure. They are underproducing on purpose.
I REALLY don't think Oculus has as many preorders as people imagine. I see so many diehards who even bought a DK waiting.

Speaking about 3dtv play in oculus/vive. 1st - somehow you should make 3dvision kick-in (edid override?). But then, if you are successfull you can use 3dmigoto with SBS shaders + shaders for distorting image I guess.

it would be awesome to play through all the 3D fixed games on the rift or vive.
No crosstalk, no loss of brightness, full immersion.
usijg vorpx and 3DTV Play would be amazing

They both messed up by not building release around some major game. No one has faith in the brand [VR] let alone with competition. I sat awake at 10:00am to see if Valve at least put a friggin hidden logo of a game or something. Nope. Passed.
$800 is a lot of money but I would give up a lot of life luxuries for like half a year to manage but lack of faith in either means I am holding it.
