Dragon Age Inquisition on win8.1
  1 / 2
I'm currently doing baby steps in getting the game to run in windows 8.1. I'm using my own wrapper and disabling Origin overlay improved stability. I'm importing the v7 patch and my current progress is getting fixed shadows finally. I'm still at the beginning of the game and have not tested anything extensively. I have Win7 ultimate retail but my attempts at installing dual boot failed so far. I cannot install on my SSD for strange reasons and I can't use the full 3TB disk if converted to MBR. Win7 failed to install when converted to MBR disk. It is more convenient not to dual-boot. Given my new computer is currently running Win8.1 I thought I might try to get it to work there. No point in asking anyone not running Win8.1 to work on this. They should focus on fixing games instead.

Glad to hear that you are making progress! That is awesome news;)) Hopefully you will be able to port the fix to Win8.1 as well;)) If I can help in any way let me know;))

Some effects work and others don't. It is hard to navigate with almost 2000 changed shaders. Most likely a dependency on 3Dmigoto I'm unaware of. I have to assume the effect is fixed in 3Dmigoto. One example the shadows inside the cave was completely wrong. Main other problem is that the fps was single digit. Most likely due to some expensive code added to try to improve compatability around stereotexture. I'm quickly running out of ideas some shaderfixes work and others don't. Wrapper together with 3Dmigoto fix is found in the link in my footer.

Based on what I've seen of the game, you seeing some textures in 3D, and others not, is actually a game/driver problem. That happens on Win7+3Dmigoto all the time as well, and has required people to try some extensive workarounds and things like alt-tab out, then back-in, setting registry keys, some other trickiness. Read the Dragon Age thread, especially toward the end to see what is most stable for people. It's cool that it doesn't crash on 8.1 though.

New wrapper out, did some speed optimizations mostly. having around 55fps in Haven on a single 980 now. The wrapper works in Windows 7 as well so there is nothing stopping from trying it out. It might not work as flawlessly as in 3Dmigoto but a speed comparison could be interesting.

I haven't done any real comparison except my initial wrapper was doing single digits and the new around 60ish on Dragon Age. I am at a stage where I'm having trouble keeping all games running properly. Involves lots of testing and I've focused on Dragon Age. Also tested Alien: Isolation which worked for the first time. AC4 gave me broken shadows. It's a bit of a mix. Looks like I will need to produce t126 as it is used in some shaderfixes.

Here is how it looks presently:F My focus was testing the shadows. Also using fairly low convergence so cinematics are not too pointing out of screen. Thank you mike it's looking pretty good.

I'm a moron concerning testing AC4. Hint: You shouldn't use soft shadows as they were never fixed.

I'd be up for testing this in win8.1, starting this weekend (I have a test on Fri I need to study for right now). Are there specific instructions on how to install/get the wrapper working (that's different from 3dmigoto)?

I haven't narrowed down the requirements but everything on helixmod is not required to run the fix. I've only played a few hours so I don't know the effect the different settings produce. Running currently with default unchanged nvidia profile and no flawless widescreen. As I only have a single card I havn't had to check SLI profiles. I currently have done steps I, II, and V. Hard to run shadowplay and send hdmi audio to my reciever if you follow the complete guide. Running FWS isn't required but as noted on helixmod it doesn't hurt.

OK, I did a very quick run-through with this. Did steps I, II, and V listed on the helixmod site, and ONLY those steps. So in summary, my set-up was: 347.09 drivers DEFAULT Dragon Age Inquisition profile (including shader cache ON) GeForce Experience INSTALLED Desktop settings: 2560x1440@120Hz In-game settings: 2560x1440@59.95Hz, all graphics settings (including PostProcess AA) at maximum quality, MSAA OFF User.cfg from flugan's zip FWS OFF When I first tried running the game in 3d with SLI enabled, none of the text was being rendered correctly in the left eye (either it wasn't rendered at all or it was corrupted) and there were a lot of textures that would also fail to render correctly in the left eye as well. Also the game would occasionally crash when zoning into a new map. After I turned SLI off, all those problems went away. Of course the game was rendering at an unplayable framerate but as far as I could tell everything was rendering correctly. Also no crashes after zoning into 3 separate maps. Also tried running DA:I with the BF4 profile to see if it would fix SLI issues and for some reason the game refused to render in SLI mode, even when I forced it in the profile. However, even with SLI still disabled, shadows were broken with BF4 profile.

See the other DAI thread about removing the KB2670838 windows patch. I am not sure if it definitely applies to win8.1 though, but it's fixing most people's crashing and rendering stability issues. I put instructions on the helixblog. I have to use BF4 profile for SLI to work, else I get the same stuff you showed in your pictures.
