Buy a Samsung 3D Ready TV and play with 3D Vision Forget about 3DTV Play!!! Rollermod ru

Austin Tex,
I thought Samsung 2011 3D Ready TVs didn't support checkerboard and frame sequential, do they? I think Roller said that those features were not present in the new 2011 3D Ready Samsung LED/Plasma TVs. If this is true than I'm really glad I bought the 2010 model instead.
Yes, opaque means washed out, bad contrast and ugly color saturation. As I'm brazilian, sometimes I have a hard time trying to express my experiments in english, as it's not my native language.
Reading your post it seems like you are playing 3D games in CB mode, as you mentioned the red overlay message. So I assume your TV supports CB and FS just like the 2010 Samsung models, right? So, you're also using rollermod, so Nvidia drivers think your TV is HDMI 1.3, instead of HDMI 1.4?
When in PC mode/3D which enables CB and FS, I can only select picture>mode for standard and movie, relax and dynamic are disabled. If I pick standard and movie than I have advanced options and picture options available. Many options inside those 2 features are greyed out, but HDMI black levels and dynamic contrast are available and this makes a huge difference.
I still must find this sharpness feature you're refering about. Never really found this option, maybe its a new 2011 feature for Samsung TVs?
Roller,
I can't choose dynamic picture mode when viewing 3D content, just standard or movie. Dynamic and relax mode are greyed out when 3D is enabled.
Game mode is greyed out in PC mode, it only works for video mode, so it really doesn't matter for us as we don't play in video mode anymore. When using 3DTV Play 1080p24hz I always enabled game mode. I would explain how to enable game mode, but I'm not home now so I don't quite remember. I know you must hit the menu button, it's not under picture settings, it's general options I think and there you'll find the option for enabling game mode. But this only works for video mode, not PC mode.
Once I get home and look at my TV options, I'll let you know where game mode is. It is kind of hidden, not easy to find. I know it's in the TV's menu that shows a picture of a gear, after you enter this option just under general options and you'll see game mode.

All 2011 no longer have CB except for D7000 and D8000 LEDS. For plasmas and other LEDS, only framepack, SBS, top/bottom.

Same here. I have my 2D setting as 'dynamic', but it auto switches to 'standard' when I launch a game.

Hi guys, I'd just like to say thanks to roller and francomg for their posts. Thanks to you, I now have CB mode enabled with the vision software on my sammy c750 which I bought just a few weeks ago.
As this is my fist steps into the world of 3d im not really all that clued up on the terminology but I can say this, 3dtv compared to CB on vision is like night and day. Its just so much clearer and a joy to play.

JoeBe, but you still get the red overlay message on CB, don't you??? Only FS 1080p60hz doesn't have a red message, CB has this issue if you don't use Roller's hardware hack (555 timer) to suppress the red annoying message.
Roller, if 2011 Samsung models don't have CB, how Austin Tex is using CB for 3D gaming using your rollermod in his 2011 Samsung TV? Unless Austin Tex was lucky enough to buy the few 2011 models that still support CB and FS. He also has this sharpness feature that should make 3D look even better, but in the other hand he said that his TV doesn't enable advanced setting for PC mode, so we have this advantage having a 2010 model instead of 2011.
BTW, did you get the PM I sent you with my address and also the message about the emulator? I'll be looking foward to read your thoughts/opinion on this.

Only the HW circuit fix will eliminate the red message in CB mode. But at least you have Frame Sequential 1080p60hz for gaming without any red message. 30fps is enough for a lot of games and 60hz is also OK. While you wait for the HW fix, at least you have FS which is full resolution per eye like FP. Can't imagine myself going back to FP 1080p24hz, never again. I don't even mention FP 720p60hz as this is for console gamers, not high end PC users.

Ok, so I've mentioned this stuff before, but I'll go ahead and repeat it for francomg or anyone else who is interested:
Samsung 2011 LED LCDs models D7000 and up support all 3D modes including checkerboard, just like the 2010 models. I own a D8000 and it does support 3D and I have used it.
I will add a correction to what I said before, ALL Advanced Settings aren't turned off in PC mode. But most of them are, including Dynamic Contrast. In PC mode, there are only two main Picture options which are Standard and Entertain. The other three (Dynamic and Movie and Natural) are gone. Entertain is not even an option on regular TV modes. So I don't even know what that is. Entertain turns off even more options. Anyway, Roller is right that HDMI Black Level to low is important and helps a lot.
When I said Game Mode before I was referring to the setting in the General Menu which turns on Game Mode. This turns OFF most of the picture processing in order for the tv to provide the fastest possible display time (lowest possible latency/lag). If you are playing a fast moving game, this is extremely important. In 3D, I think this is turned off automatically and you don't even have the option to turn it on.
You can also select "Game" as a name for your input, but I noticed on my tv, that I can still turn on/off the General Menu option of Game Mode when the input label is set to Game. So "Game" as a label might not actually do anything, unlike "PC" as a label which changes a lot of settings.
Fran, sharpness is a basic setting on your tv, like brightness and contrast. Sharpness basically just tries to enhance edges. It should generally be turned all the way to zero. But I noticed if it was near 20 I got the least ghosting on my tv. I think the tv is trying to do processing on the whole 1920x1080 image at the same time instead of each eye's checkerboard image seperately. This caused some additional ghosting. Sharpness might be disabled on your tv when in PC mode.
And I don't use 3D TV play or 3D Vision currently. But I just bought an nvidia GTX 580. I have gotten the free trials of iz3d and Tridef to work and I've seen checkerboard on both of them. Really still trying to decide what to do. I hate the idea of spending so much extra time and money for Vision when 3DTV Play should do all this automatically. Still don't know what I should do. But with you and Roller both pushing it so hard, I might finally give in. :)

Yes, how stupid I was, sharpness is really a basic feature in any TV, not just your new 2011 model. But when in PC mode this option is greyed out but I can at least see that sharpness is set to 20, but I can't change this value in PC mode. So, it's good enough since you said 20 for sharpness is a good value for playing games in 3D. No worries here I guess. If I go back to video mode than sharpness is not greyed out anymore, but since I won't ever play 3D games in video mode again, no need to mess with this feature.
One thing that crossed my mind is about FP 1080p24hz and sharpness. I always see annoying edges in video mode that makes Frame packing 1080p24hz (video mode) look ugly compared to CB or FS 1080p60hz (PC mode). You said something about reducing sharpness helps decreasing those edges, I'm not sure I understood correctly?
So for those sorry folks that bought a Panasonic or Sony 3D Ready TV and can not take advantage of 3Dvision's CB and FS, they can at least try to decrease sharpness to avoid annoying edges when playing games using 3DTV Play frame packing 1080p24hz or 720p60hz. I haven't tried this yet since I'm only using Rollermod for CB and FS ATM. But I might try out 3DTV Play again just to see if sharpness has any effect on those ugly edges in video mode that me and Roller have been noticing and talking about.
Roller, to enable Game Mode you must be in video mode, in PC mode this option is greyed out, not selectable. In Video mode, hit Samsung remote controller menu key, then select Plug and Play>General>Game Mode. Now you have game mode, but it just works for video mode. Game mode enabled looks better for 2D and 3D gaming, but there's still edges, but better color saturation. Try messing around with sharpness, maybe sharpness is to high in video mode, but you can decrease it since this feature is selectable in video mode.
Yesterday I've played Just Cause 2, Bulletstorm and Formula 1 in 3D using 3dvision's CB and FS. Off course F1 was much better in CB mode, despite of the red message, but you get 60fps which is required for racing games. Bullestorm also felt better in CB compared to FS, I don't mean graphically, but smoother gameplay due to 60fps vs 30fps. It's really hard to see graphical differences between FS vs CB, I know it's full resolution per eye vs half, but I really cound't tell a difference playing Bulletstorm. CB is really awesome, it's all we ever wanted, 1080p60hz and 60fps. Forget about this mimick concerning full resolution per eye that Nvidia keeps talking about Frame Packing, checkerboard is all you need for perfect 3D gaming in your Samsung 3D Ready TV.
I will repeat this again, I just don't get tired. Checkerboard 1080p60hz (PC mode) looks much better than Frame Packing 1080p24hz (Video Mode). PC mode is far superior to Video mode for 2D and 3D gaming, so it doesn't matter if FP is full resolution per eye, it looks much worse compared to CB. I have both 3DTV Play and 3Dvision, I've tried all 3D modes available, as Roller and other folks did, I know what I'm saying, I've tested for hours both modes. Frame Packing could look a lot better if at least worked in PC mode instead of video mode. The pixels processing between PC mode and video mode are quite different resulting in a huge quality difference for 3D gaming. You must see this to believe, really. Otherwise you think I'm full of BS, like I also thought Roller was before I've tried out his mod.
You just need to remember to apply some features when in PC mode, otherwise the colors will be washed out compared to video mode. Just set dynamic contrast to high in advanced options and HDMI Black levels to low in picture options.
I still can't figure out why GTA IV episodes don't accept CB and FS. I have this game installed in Steam and it won't let me choose the other 4 3D layouts. When I start the game in DVI/PC mode I don't see the screen blinking like if it's going back to video mode, but once I press the Samsung remote key for 3D, I can only see side-by-side, under-over and 2D-3D, the other 4 3D layouts which includes FS and CB don't appear, like If I was in video mode. I check my input label and it shows DVI/PC.
This sucks so bad, I would love to play GTA IV Episodes in CB or FS, but it's not possible. I can't figure out why????
Roller or anyone that has this game installed, can you guys try it out to see if the your Samsung TV will let you choose CB and FS for this game. It's the only game I came across that Samsung TV doesn't let me select CB or FS. Maybe this is a bug, doesn't make sense at all???
I've tried Left 4 Dead 2 and Avatar which are also Steam games, and they all work with CB and FS. GTA IV Episodes is the exception.
BTW, Roller can you post your rollermod and replacemod inf files here in this thread, so it makes easier for folks who are reading this thread to get it? The other thread about CB you've created is not in this forum's main page anymore.

No, I did not. My PM folders have been randomly deleteing messages, so please send me another. If you don't hear back from me immediately, tell me in this thread and I will PM you.
This goes for everyone, if I don't respond to PM, it's because I never got it so try a second PM or post a new thread in the forum to get my attention.
We can always use email if necessary.

So for those sorry folks that bought a Panasonic or Sony 3D Ready TV and can not take advantage of 3Dvision's CB and FS, they can at least try to decrease sharpness to avoid annoying edges when playing games using 3DTV Play frame packing 1080p24hz or 720p60hz.[/quote]
Don't worry, poor or annoying edges are not an issue on 2011 Panasonics at all even at 720 as they don't exist (in game mode at least, haven't bothered with other modes), maybe if you run with no AA it is but I haven't tried that either. Not sure about Sony.

Are you happy playing games in 720p??? What if you could play in 1080p60hz, woudn't you be happier??? Come on, we PC users are used to play games in FULL HD, we are not console users. I've never liked 3DTV Play mostly because the limitations of 1080p24hz (unplayable for 90% of games) and 720p60hz (console gaming). Off course PC mode is better than Video mode, but if FP 1080p60hz was possible, I would be playing games in my TV besides the ugly edges that video mode shows, but I just can't stand 720p gaming in a huge screen If I already play in 1080p in a 23" 120hs display. Unfortunately 1080p24hz is not possible for gaming, just BD3D. The bigger the screen the more resolution you need, not less. Playing in 720p in a smaller screen is not that bad, but in a 50"+ screen is definatelly lacking high quality gaming.
Panasonic Plasma 3D Ready TV may have the best picture overall, I've seen it and it's a great TV with perfect crispy 3D and almost no ghosting at all. It's a great TV for bluray3D, 3D videos and console 3D gaming. Excuse me, but it's not a great TV for PC 3D gaming, cause you're stuck with 3DTV Play and it's limitations. I don't think a high end PC user used to play 3dvision at 1080p120hz will be satisfied with just 1080p24hz or 720p60hz. There's lots of complains about these limitations that I read in this forum everyday.
So talking about high quality 3D gaming, Samsung Plasma/LED have a big advantage over the competition, period. Samsung 3D 2010 TVs are 100% compatible with 3Dvision, just like any 120hz LCD display cause both support frame sequential, but Samsung TV supports 1080p60hz = 30fps per eye and LCD 120hz display supports 1080p120hz = 60fps per eye.
This means I can play games in 3D using my Samsung TV in Frame sequential 1080p60hz (full resolution per eye just like FP), but in PC mode, and it's 60hz and 30fps per eye and that's far superior to 24hz and 24fps. I can also play games in 3D in any resolution I choose just like if my TV was a LCD display. I can select 1080p, 1050p, 900p, 768p and 720p or any resolution I want, I'm not stuck with 1080p24hz or 720p60hz. I have any resolution I want in 60hz always, not 24hz. So just this option kills Frame Packing, I'm not even mentioning Checkerboard yet, just Frame Sequential.
Then If I really need 60fps in a heavy action game, I have CB that looks almost the same as FS, but it's half resolution per eye. Therefore this CB mode needs Roller's HW circuit to suppress the red annoying Vesa cable message.
My point is, if you want to game at best quality possible with a 3D Ready TV using your PC and you have a 3dvision kit, I think Samsung is the best choice for you. But I'm not saying Samsung is the best TV, picture quality, none of this. This thread is about 3D gaming with the best quality possible in a 3D Ready TV nowadays. And this can only be achieved with Samsung.
I don't work for Samsung and I love Panasonic Plasmas, best picture I've seen and I have a 50" 2D Pana Plasma im my living room, but for PC 3D gaming I would pick Samsung instead.
I took some pictures of the game Just Cause in PC mode and video mode of the same scene for comparision. I took the pictures in 2D mode, cause it's really easy to see the differences between PC and Video mode, you don't need 3D to see that. In 3D the edges in video mode just look even worse. It's like video mode needs lots of AA and PC mode is just perfect without any edges. That's the big difference Roller has been talking about.
I've tried to place those images here but I get a message from Nvidia forum saying that I'm not allowed to use these image extensions. I really don't get this????
I've clicked on the picture icon, place the URL to insert image but I get this message from the forum. Don't know what extension I can use???

As this is my fist steps into the world of 3d im not really all that clued up on the terminology but I can say this, 3dtv compared to CB on vision is like night and day. Its just so much clearer and a joy to play.
Cheers guys, you've made an old gamer happy

Me to, I also need Roller's creation. But at least we have Frame Sequential 1080p60hz for gaming without any red message. 30fps is enough for a lot of games and 60hz is also OK. While we wait for CB without red message, we have FS which is full resolution per eye like FP. Can't imagine myself going back to FP 1080p24hz, never again. I don't even mention FP 720p60hz as this is for console gamers, not high end PC users.

For those who are interested, here is a pic of the message suppressor I sent to francomg, I'll ship world wide.
