3D Vision failure after fresh driver install and reset. Any thoughts before I reinstall windows?
Hi Guys,

I have encountered a strange problem the last 2 days. I tried the new WHQL 257 drivers, decided they weren't for me and uninstalled them using driver sweeper safe mode etc. Since reverting back to the 197.45 and 3D Vision 1.25 drivers I am encountering the "Attempting to run stereoscopic in a non-stereoscopic mode....." error. The strange thing is that everything runs fine after the driver install. However, if I reset my machine the the error returns and I am forced to reinstall drivers again.

I have a feeling that I may have deleted something using driver sweeper. Perhaps something regarding my monitor or my graphics cards. I would rather not reinstall windows but I will if I have to. If anyone has any help to offer I am all ears.

Thank you,

Try using System Restore and choose a restoring to the closest point before you ran Driver Cleaner (should be the 257 drivers still installed). It sounds like Driver Sweeper knocked out the dynamic links and keys to EDID information in the registry, you can try rebuilding them but expect to spend an hour of two of your life for a solution that may or may now work. I still don't understand why people insist on doing all this sweeper nonsense, but I guess it only takes a few episodes like this before they stop. :(

Thanks chiz,

I am at a total loss now. I completely reinstalled Windows 7 and Nvidia drivers and I am still getting the same error. None of my games or the test application in the NVCP will work properly. I am starting to wonder if my glasses / emitter have gone bad.

I did the fresh install with the 195 drivers and that didn't work so I tried installing the 257 drivers as well. Both sets of drivers result in the same issue.

It may be your monitor's settings or EDID. Can you check in NVCP and the Screen Resolution Windows applet and make sure everything is set to 120Hz? Also try to install the EDID INF file that came on the Alienware driver CD. Completely cycle its power by turning it off and unplugging the power cord with the PC shut down as well. Then when it powers back on try resetting the monitor to "Factory Defaults". You may want to make note of any custom setting changes you made before doing so.

Hi Chiz,

I tried everything you said and nothing seemed to help. However, I have been trying to play the game Ninja Blade. I have the steam version. The game runs fine on a fresh restart with 3D vision. However, if I stop the game and attempt to do anything else with 3D vision I get the error and am required to restart.

If I never open up Ninja Blade the problem seems to dissappear. This is really frustrating because Ninja Blade looks great in 3D. I still don't feel confident in my system. I will need to play everything but Ninja Blade for awhile and see if the issue dissappears. As it stands now it appears that Ninja Blade is the issue. Any possible solutions?

Very odd, unfortunately I don't have that game to test this. I haven't run into a similar situation where any game broke my 3D Vision, but I have had some problems where certain games/resolutions would result in the red Error msg and its definitely a stereo driver sync issue between the monitor, receiver and glasses. I can see the glasses flickering but at the wrong refresh rate (I can see the cycling when looking at my receiver LCD display). Its typically caused when I run games configured to my old display (1920x1200) that don't automatically adjust or reset resolution, so I end up getting underscan and obvious problems as the monitor tries to run at 120Hz @ 1920x1200 which it can't do. Simply changing display resolution in-game and then rebooting has solved this problem for me so far.

Maybe you can try the fix detailed in Fig11 in this fix ManuelG posted for a similar projector resolution issue and see if that's able to override any changes the game may be making to your resolution and refresh rate: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia....hp?p_faqid=2653

Hey Chiz,

Clearly it is an issue with Ninja Blade. I played other games all night and the problem never occured. When you start Ninja Blade the screen flashes. Like you said, it is probably a resolution problem or the game is having a problem doing widescreen seeing as it's a console port. Thanks for your help.
