I'm essentially home bound for the next few days with my kitty now (so hopefully that will lend itself to having some time here and there for finishing up the fix). Turns out it wasn't cancer, but he did suffer a stroke and has lost a lot of his motor functions, eyesight, equilibrium and a lot of his wits, but he seems to be improving from the infection he was suffering from (which *only* took the vet 3 days to discover, yay /sarcasm) and he is definitely a determined little kitty, so here's hoping that he can make at least a partial recovery. At the very least I'm just glad he's home and comfortable. Thank you to everyone who expressed their sympathy/empathy to our situation.
I wish him a good recovery

As previously mentioned, I haven't had a lot of time to work on this, but I've gotten to the point where I'll release a WIP, as I've fixed pretty much every broken effect I've encountered at the hunters base and in the Ancient Forest area, although I haven't scoured every inch of that area yet, so there might still be a few broken effects out there, and almost certainly other areas will have shaders needing fixing (which will of course get fixed in due time). I've fixed a lot of stuff via regex, so that should take care of things like lighting, however water is a bit complex and I haven't tried to derive a working regex for that yet, and that'll probably be amiss in other areas.
Fixed:
-2D geometry (all)
-Directional and point lighting (all). *Note: Because this game uses tile lighting, although these are fixed they do clip at the sides at further distances.
-Ground decals (all)
-Water (base + Ancient forest)
-HUD adjusted to depth
Key bindings:
F1 - Set convergence to 50 (low)
F2 - Set convergence to 250 (high)
\ - Disables the HUD
] - Adjusts the HUD depth
Caps lock or Xbox L3 + R3 - Toggles between "Game mode" and "Menu/cutscene" presets. Game mode is high convergence and high depth of HUD, and Menu/cutscene mode is low convergence and 0 depth on HUD elements
So far the HUD is just a simple fix where I push all elements into depth, however I do intend on doing some more elaborate stuff here, including using auto-depth code for the crosshair and POI's. I will also set up various convergence presets to be triggered via scene detection, so that will eliminate the need to use key bindings to switch to more comfortable settings and provide a seamless experience.
Finally, I hate to do this, but I recently mentioned the situation with my cat (whom is actually getting better and stronger every day, thank God!)... what I haven't mentioned is that the vet care cost me nearly $1500CAD (about $1200 USD), that I have been on leave from work for over a month without pay due to circumstances, that I was planning on returning this week before this came up (actually should have been last week, but my manager held things up), and now I've been having to spend more time off taking care of him and getting him back to health (which, again, my efforts are baring fruit so it's time and $$$ well spent), and unfortunately my financial reserves are spent and situation is pretty stressful. I believe I've got enough $$$ to cover next months rent and that's about it. Anyways, I'm sure by now you know where this is going... if you enjoy my work, and/or feel like generously helping a brother out then donations can be sent to my paypal in my signature and would be greatly appreciated! (and by "generously" I don't necessarily mean a large amount, I mean that any donations that are ever made I consider to be generous) And before you ask yourself, "Well why did he spend $60 on a game?" the answer is I preordered this like 1 or 2 days before my cat got sick and quite frankly I didn't refund it because I needed a distraction at times. For those that can't, or won't donate, then all power to you and I hope you enjoy this fix. Even despite my plight I still choose to not put my fixes behind a paywall, as I never expect anything of anyone in return for my work. I'd rather swallow my pride and kindly ask for a little help than make demands and hold my work up for ransom! For those that can help, again, you will have my eternal gratitude.

Ouch. Will spot you a bit of cash next pay day DJ-RK that's not a fun situation.
Always happy to support your work, and CM mode just isn't cutting it =)
Interestingly I just crashed entering the Ancient forest and I haven't crashed previous to the fix in the 10 or so hours I have played.
I also notice in the hunters camp at night I am seeing some broken light sources with clipping and another place it occurs is the camp fires. You didn't mention this so I assume something is wrong?
Otherwise only other broken effect I have seen is the sky in some areas around the canopy in ancient forest and the moon in the town is not at right depth.

Was that a graphics driver crash error? Yeah, I get a lot of those while hunting and doing frame analysis, which is making fixing this game a bit of a pain, especially with it's lack of frequent saving. Been getting those since before I even fixed any shaders, so that's probably an issue the game is having with 3DM all-together. I had read other people on Steam forums having crashes so I thought it might have just been a general issue with the game or with the driver. Might be worth trying some of the different hooking methods or compatibility settings to reduce them.
I also notice in the hunters camp at night I am seeing some broken light sources with clipping and another place it occurs is the camp fires. You didn't mention this so I assume something is wrong?
Right. I forgot to mention this. This is due to tile lighting causing clipping around the edges at distance. I will eventually get to trying to fix it, but I decided to hold off because it's not particularly evident where else in the shader that needs adjustment (other than the spot that actually fixes the lighting), and I knew if I went down that rabbit hole that would have delayed getting out a workable WIP for another day or so (with no guarantee of result).
Otherwise only other broken effect I have seen is the sky in some areas around the canopy in ancient forest and the moon in the town is not at right depth.
I did take a look up at the sky to try to see if I could find anything broken at one point and didn't find anything, but other than that I hadn't really paid much attention to the sky so thanks for pointing those out and I'll track them down.

Well Dj that was anything but a slow start! I can't believe after so many years (actually couple decades) I am finally playing a Monster Hunter Game in 3d with modern perfect graphics.
The fix is Amazing! So much better than compatibility mode.. I can read all the text now! None of the blurs around the models..
I can't thank you enough! Making good on my bounty promise to gmail. As a fellow kitty owner I wish you the best. I took care of mine with daily insulin injections for over 7 years and I would do it again to have him longer if I could.
Keep up the good work on the fix, and with kitty!!

For me I had the black eye effect on the opening monster hunter logo screen, but worked as it should starting the game and at character selection screen.
Try troubleshooting make sure unzipped in proper location and going into the game etc..

I still confirm this problem after reinstalling your fix in the monster hunter games directory
Black left eye and the gamepad is no longer recognized and I can play only keyboard / mouse
As soon as I erase the files from your fix and restart the game, the default gamepad is available again.
I would like to play in real 3d vision
Remains that the 3d mode CM is still good with this game
hoping that you can get paufiner this fix if you have time
