All the known custom versions. Asus Rog version that's OC'd out of the box looks like my pick. [/quote]
There is something WRONG with the Asus GTX1080 Strix PCB.... the image SHOWS 2 Power connections... That board also look 95% EXACTLY like the 980Ti Strix OC version that I got.... I think that is not the actual PCB of a 1080... Or maybe it is??? I see more manufacturers put 2 connectors on the board (MSI, Zotac, etc)...
But, I agree looks kick-ass;)

With Nvidia’s new flagship GPU hitting stores (and quickly selling out), the company released a new driver update exclusively for GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards.
Driver version 368.25 is a WHQL-certified game-ready driver for Overwatch, World of Tanks and War Thunder. We already got a taste of those features with Nvidia’s 368.22 driver update just a few days ago, but now that the Titan X-killing GTX 1080 is in the wild, it has its own driver. The update also features the GTX 1080-exclusive VRWorks SDKs, including Lens Matched Shading and Single Pass Stereo.

My friend picked up a 1080 founders yesterday.
We compared it to my watercooled 980ti with a bios mod on running at 1575 and +450 memory.
The 1080 was clocked to around 1950-2000mhz.
At 4K ultra with no AA we tried tombraider. I got 42fps he got 46fps.
In doom he got around 5-10fps more
In starwars the 1080 got 4-5fps more.
It's actually put me of getting one now.
Ok it's not on a waterblock or with a bios mod but still.

I purchased EVGA founder's edition which replaced a Asus Titan X with a custom bios and cooler. All the benchmarks I ran at 1080P 3D shows a healthy 15% to 25% increase.
Flashing my titan x with a custom bios and cooler gave me an increase of 10% over stock settings.
The only thing that I'm really mad about the 1080 is the cooler is crap and I paid an extra $100 for it.
Here are the games I tested.
Rise of the Tombraider
Far Cry Primal
Dirt Rally
Metal Gear Solid the phantom pain
Middle Earth Shadow of the Morder
Once EVGA comes out with the 1080 Classified edition or the FTW edition I will use the step up program and flash it with a custom bios the range between titan x and 1080 should greatly increase.

Man, it's crazy that the FE cards are sold out everywhere while Custom cards are coming out in a week with better coolers, factory OC, and lower prices. OC Strix is $650 and EVGA FTW is $680. I'm personally gonna go with the MSI Gaming X, which it seems will be below $650 itself.

Don't be surprised when the good ones also sell out though and the only ones that arent are the ones that aren't are the off shoot brands that are upmarked.
I think they will all sellout for a whiles.
TBH FE are a good peace of mind with how no one seems to know when and where the other brands will be up.

I wouldn't be surprised if they sell out too but I do know that the Strix release date is slated for the 4th of June, so only 1 week out unless another brand releases sooner. I'll definitely be watching like a hawk for one. Sometimes the hunt is even kinda fun in a twisted way ;)

Zig1127, in not making things up we literally ran it side by side in game.
The tombraider using the benchmark whilst doom and starwars was in game stood next to each other.
It was never more then 5fps Max between them, apart from doom where the max fps was up to 10fps.
You should try the benchmark at 4K everything maxed with no AA and no film grain and see for yourself.
Take the rose tinted glasses off first though! :D
The problem is for me, even 20% increase is basically 5 fps in 4K depending on the game.
That's 5fps on a game playing below 60fps. If it's above 60fps it doesn't matter that you're getting 10 extra frames because you've hit the refresh rate limit.
It's not enough of an increase for the money IMO. I was expecting more.
After watching that hype fest of a reveal I've got to say it's a bit of a let down.
I'm interested what these founders edition cards max out at before hitting the power limit.
I know the EVGA FTW is using two power connectors and if bios modding and a waterblock will probably need two surely?
Has anyone seen and benchmarks for the 1080 underwater? Apart from that hybrid one, with the hack job?

I;m excited about the prospect of a single GPU that could possible run Witcher 3 in stereo 3d @ 1080p with everything turned on and hit 60FPS - the GTX 1080 may come close but I think it won't quite achieve it.
Of all those in the roundup, the MSI gaming is the only 1 that appeals to me with the 100mm fans. Hopefully Gigabyte will release a wateforce version, like they did with the 980ti, that stays cool with no fans at all. There are some users reporting the old fan revving problems with these cards, so I'd like to stay away from 80mm fans and fans altogether, if possible.

I had originally planned to spend money by the end of the summer for a VR headset. I've researched at nauseam for VR and decided to wait until next year and beyond to see where things are at. Having said that, I was thinking about taking advantage of buying a GTX980Ti as a small cost justified upgrade from my ASUS 970 Strix. I think this would be a small injection to cover me until next year since I'll probably do an entire system upgrade at that time including maybe whatever GPU and VR HMD will be available. I've concluded that although VR has brief moments of awesomeness, it needs another couple of years and like zig11727, I play all my games at 1080P/720P(DSR) 3D with my 120" projector and couldn't be happier with this set up. I've been recently playing a heavily modded Oblivion with a new/updated mod/plugin (OBGE v 4.0) and man this game is dam impressive with the HD 2K texture mods in 3D + no frame rate issues using the 3D fix from the helixmod site. The fidelity in 3D with all the attention to detail is amazing.

Does any of you think that a lower price on a GTX980Ti would be worth it considering I have the GTX970? This upgrade is to tie me over until I build a new system next year and the money I originally planned to spend for VR could be put towards a new set up and also give me time to save some more $$$$

1080 would be a 20% performance increase for 50% price increase, albeit much larger than the difference between 970 vs 980.
Stryker. You'll be better off with a 1070 I reckon.
It's performance might be similar but the 1070 is cheaper, has proper async compute support (apparently)
4K decoding, HDR HDMI, latest DisplayPort connectors and after a few driver optimisations will be a lot faster than the 980ti.
Also has the extra VRAM too.
In fact, it's a no brainer, get the 1070.

Hopefully Gigabyte will release a wateforce version, like they did with the 980ti, that stays cool with no fans at all. There are some users reporting the old fan revving problems with these cards, so I'd like to stay away from 80mm fans and fans altogether, if possible.
All I'm saying is my results are at 1080P 3D this what I use for 3D. My results justify my purchase I don't play 4K 2D so I never tested the results.

Does any of you think that a lower price on a GTX980Ti would be worth it considering I have the GTX970? This upgrade is to tie me over until I build a new system next year and the money I originally planned to spend for VR could be put towards a new set up and also give me time to save some more $$$$
If one wants the biggest bang for the $$, would SLi 1070s not be a more attractive option, especially for 3D Vision?

1080 would be a 20% performance increase for 50% price increase, albeit much larger than the difference between 970 vs 980.
Windows 10 64-bit, Intel 7700K @ 5.1GHz, 16GB 3600MHz CL15 DDR4 RAM, 2x GTX 1080 SLI, Asus Maximus IX Hero, Sound Blaster ZxR, PCIe Quad SSD, Oculus Rift CV1, DLP Link PGD-150 glasses, ViewSonic PJD6531w 3D DLP Projector @ 1280x800 120Hz native / 2560x1600 120Hz DSR 3D Gaming.
