3D Vision works, but doesn't
Hi all.

We have an Asus G74S Notebook with 3D capabilities. We set up the nvidia 3D settings and everything seems to work fine. However, it kinda doesn't. When setting up stereoscopic settings and run the tests, it displays the 3D images for gaming perfectly, also when running the nvidia 3D test, it displays the test with the nvidia logo fine as well.

On the Desktop there is a 3D demo video that you can run. When you open it in media player it displays the video side by side. So basically it displays it in one window, but split screen. Any 3D video gets displayed this way.

I have downloaded the 3D Vision Video Player but does the same as well. I also downloaded that latest drivers from nvidia site and installed that as well.

I hope this makes sense to someone and that you can help with this issue.

Thanking you

In nVidia settings you can specify when to show 3D, in 3D programs, in full screen, always etc. Play with that and it should kick in...it's just a matter of settings.

Thanks Morlizer for the reply.

I'll go play with the settings, just don't want to change too much, but I'll have a look and post the results.

Thanks

Ahh

It's the old: working, not working chestnut.

I found that happened to me. I would have to view my image files using stereoscopic player and movies would be split screen. IIRC I just pressed loads of buttons (different modes in the players view(?) tab) and it started working. Doing that seemed to kick start the player into going into 3D mode.

All the best!

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Also make sure you DO NOT have "Hide stereoscopic effect when game starts" checked. That will **** up the player too.

Awesome thanks everyone for the replies,

When I have a chance to check it out I'll play around with buttons and settings and see what works. It is frustrating when it seems to work, but doesn't.

Thanks again.

Hi everyone,

Ok, so I uninstalled the nVidia drivers, and nVidia 3d Vision media player.
Downloaded the latest drivers from the nVidia website for Windows 7 64 bit and the latest nVidia 3D Vision Player.

I played around with the settings in the nVidia Control Panel for 3D settings, and made sure: "Hide stereoscopic effect when game starts" was NOT ticked.

There is a screenshot:

I am really unsure where to go to from here, as this is how the player starts up..

Click View->Viewing method->Stereoscopic. Also try some other settings from the advanced setting menu and make sure you have proper decoders installed within the player itself (also when playing a stereoscopic video you'll get a menu where you can select the stereoscopic input format and select side-by-side if it's an SBS file you're trying to play). You could also try Power Dvd 11 which also supports 3D Vision and imo is a lot better than the 3D Vision player.

Thanks Joohan Power DVD seemed to do the trick. I seem to agree that Power Dvd is the better choice.. everything working great now.

Thanks again to everyone for their input and help.

The 3D vision video player is displaying 2 split images because you haven't selected the 3D layout viewing mode which is Side-by-side mode left side 1st. I don't know why anyone have said that to you yet in this thread. If you don't choose a 3D viewing mode, a SBS 3D video will look just like that. Using newer Nvidia drivers you don't need full screen, cause 3D also works in windowed mode. I think you have forgotten to set the 3D layout before trying to view this video. If you were able to view 3D with PDVD I think it's because it has done 3D SBS mode automatically. Well, I am assuming you're new to 3D and 3D Vision, that's why I think that would be the problem you were having, I could be wrong though.

Note: If you select side-by-side (left image first) layout viewing mode and the 3D effect is strange, than switch to side-by-side (right image first). That should do the trick.
Also, if you have hide stereoscopic effects option checked, no big deal, just hit Ctrl + T to enable 3D when using the 3DV player.

You don't need any codecs for this video, cause you were able to play it in 2D. You only need a codec if the 2D video can't be displayed using the Player and there's an error message if you try to play it, not because you coudn't make 3D work.

Best of lucky...
