Do we still want to play in 3D ?
Libertine, I have always been curious about your 3DTV setup as you sit very close to the TV. In my attempt to move closer to my ASUS 27" I probably won't get any closer than 43cm in a neutral head position. You can't really compare a small screen with a large screen regarding 3D as the amount of image displacement required to get 100% depth is much larger on a small screen. If you take a screenshot with 100% depth it looks identical to a 50% depth screenshot on my screen.
That weird, i had actually the opposite thought -that the smaller screen offered more depth for a given viewing distance and depth setting. I set my depth so that thing on the horizon match my interocular and make sure everything close to me looks the right size and is an appropriate distance from me. I personally thought it had to do with perspective, the way we use the scale of an object [the amount it covers our fov] to detect its distance from us. IE, train tracks narrowing in the distance. I noticed this the most the first time i loaded up the monitor using a Skyrim screenshot i had just been viewing on my 46". The smaller screen obviously had smaller objects, but im not really sure that was it either.

Let's say your interocular distance is 65mm. If the maximum depth is 64mm we are getting pretty close to the interocular distance. The convergence point beyond the screen then only depends on viewing distance. Max depth = viewing distance * depth / (interocular - depth) Examples 43cm = 27,5m 85cm = 54,4m 200cm = 128m Comparing monitors of different size but at the same viewing distance seems strange. Even though the depth is the same for both monitors the difference between left and right image on a small screen is much larger. These two 100% depth images are quite extreme because of the small monitor size. http://sdrv.ms/QIau4v

I've actually never removed the 46" from my desk, so the VG278H has always been in front of the 46". When using the 27" I usually bring it as close as i can before it gets blurry. For the example i gave, which probably did the most to form that opinion, the monitor was just in front of the 46".
Get a projector. Ive bought 2 monitors(including vg278h)/1 hdtvs/ 2 projectors/hmz-t1 . Doesnt even compare. 80" screen thats brighter then any 3D monitor and no ghosting. 3D is all about the "immersion"(term is used way too much), it sucks looking into a little box and seeing double images everywhere. Optoma hd 66/ Acer h5360 are my top picks and extremely cheap(they are identical).
Ugh! Newegg is having a sale on the H5360 right now and I am really thinking about getting it. I have the vg278h now and love it, but my only issue is going down in resolution. I was gaming on a 30inch Dell High Def @ 2560x1600 and then had to cut the resolution to 1920x1080 for 3D. I also ran 3DS for a while at 6010x1080 until one of my monitors burnt out. So cutting to 1280x720 is a little rough for me. I am going to think about this one a little.

I own a 720p 3D projecter and vg278h. Even excluding using AA(nvidia inspector). Not gonna lie quality is very similiar. The projector is very pixel dense in comparison to lcd. Ive bought 7 different displays, projector takes the cake by far. My asus is looking mighty dusty.

What about running games at those lower resolutions? Don't they appear more blocky? Or does AA smooth it all out pretty well? Do you happen to have any pictures or video of your projector in action? Not that a picture will do it justice, but I am just really curious about how much definition I will lose dropping to 1280x720 and then blowing up the screen size to 80-100 inches.

Regarding the OP, 3D Vision is the only way I game on my PC. If it doesn't work in 3D, I don't play it. Now that I am used to it, 2D doesn't provide near the realism or depth. I have an Xbox so I can play with my buddies that are too cheap to build or buy a gaming pc (and play titles that I really wanted to play on PC but couldn't due to the fact developers are selling the PC out), but Xbox gaming isn't near as fulfilling.

No pictures, sorry. But I never felt it was blocky or found that I can see pixels. I Sit around 6 feet away from 70" projector. Ive owned hdtvs, monitors, projectors, and even a hmz-t1.

You know eqzitara, you sound like you know what is what. What the hell, it is only money right? Ordering now! And no worries about the pics, i doubt it would do it justice. Do you use a white wall or are you using an actual projector material?

Well didnt expect you to just jump into it lol. Projectors are a lot of work, require a proper room thats dark, placement, and room. Im uber lazy so I use a shelf but its level so it works. Projector screen is necessary past a certain size depending on rooms darkness but can manage without for a time. I know its a bit wrong to suggest but find a white wall and try it out there for a time. Newegg has a good return policy, find that you can have a proper room for it. I honestly didnt think you'd just jump into it and I am not sure if you even have the above criteria. It may appear dim without a proper screen. These projectors really shine at 60"-80". Use this throw calculator http://www.projectorcentral.com/Acer-H5360-projection-calculator-pro.htm If you dont want to do research and just want to go for one shoe fits best deal go with Dalite High power (2.8). If its too bright you can use eco mode on projector which gives it more life which is a win-win. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1300238/discussion-screens-for-3d-projection Dont mess around with paints... Fabric is probably a bad idea as well unless you are a hand on type of guy. My setup is Optoma hd66(I had acer 5360.. Its the same in every way), Da-lite power 2.8 screen (80" screen but only use 70"), Nvidia 3d vision emitter (You NEED one, even if you have one built into anoter monitor, can buy one off ebay from same guy I did. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Emitter-for-Nvidia-3D-Vision-System-/150928792767?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23240e9cbf ), I use a shelf for the projector itself.

I started with the colored glasses 4 years ago, went to 1 Samsung 2233RZ. Then to 3 x 2233RZ Then got the Acer H5360 - incredible - wishing for a higher res some day Then 3 x Planar 2311W Moved and now have 3 X VG278H (didn't get divorced, just moved :) ) Fully hooked on 3D surround and really don't like playing any game unless it's surround. When am I gonna get my wall size curved screen ....? P.S. for those reading this post, thank you for all you guys post as I've needed all your help! :)

I have the perfect living room for it (really long with a perfect white wall at one end) and I am single so I don't have a wife or gf to make angry when I move my stuff around or spend money on frivolous things :) I have my old emitter sitting here too. And I am definitely not a 3D Vision noob. I went from one AW2310, to 3xAW2310's and ran 3DVS for just over two years until the backlight shorted out on one of the monitors and Dell took forever getting me a replacement. So I ebayed the other two monitors and used that cash to get my ASUS VG278H which has treated me awesome. Newegg has the projector on sale for $499 and an extra year warranty is only $40, so it was a pretty easy call to make. Worst case scenario I don't like gaming on it and use it to watch 3D movies. I am thinking turning a wall into a screen sounds like a good time!

I updated my post. The main thing that EVERYONE forgets is you need a 3d vision emitter. Alot of people who have one in monitor forget about it and get display and go... shit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Emitter-for-Nvidia-3D-Vision-System-/150928792767?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23240e9cbf Mine broke last week, bought a new one from this guy... Uber cheap. I actually bought it with next day shipping lol. Cause I was in a middle of game. Got it literally next day. You have 3d vision 2 glasses already so your set there especially since they are the best glasses. If you go less then 80" look up 3d vision depth hack
