Mafia II Demo Available on Steam GPU PhysX, 3D Vision Ready, all the goodies
3 / 7
Tried this as well at 1680x1050.
With 3D, physx and AA off I was getting a solid 90fps.
Just AA on was about 40-50fps
Just Physx on was about 30fps consistently until I got to the shootouts where it got progressively worse, I eventually died from it being unplayable (12fps) and when it reloaded the fps was right back up and then started dipping again over time. I like the physx effect but glad to see there is still some effects there with it turned off, so chuffed about that.
Just s3D on was about 20fps but I also had the silhouettes thing, but now I know its because of the drivers so fair enough.
So for me I'll be running it with just AA on, lol. But I am a big Mafia fan so I'm fine with that, hopefully the demo performance is going to match final game performance.
Someone left a sports car outside his house (the ones with no roof) took it to the garage and tuned it up, DAMN that flew after that!!!!! great fun :D I was hoping they had that bit in the physx show off vids where they shot up the diner with tommy guns in this demo, but nevermind.
Only thing that looks weird is the colours, they seem off somehow, easy to get used to but still looks a little weird at first.
Would it be possible for someone who has a mega rig to take some screenshots with full settings? 3D as well if possible, just wanna see how it could look, lol

Ya guys make sure to get the latest 3D Vision driver CD as it has updated profile for Mafia 2: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce-3d-vi...eta-driver.html
I will try and get some screenshots up later, looks like Bloody posted some already. :)
The low FPS bug has been replicated by others and is not just a 3D Vision issue, it actually looks to be a Apex PhysX issue as reducing the PhysX level in those spots with the fire increases FPS again. My guess is it may be due to the wrong PhysX runtime version, as the rel notes say we should be running nVidia PhysX_drivers 10.04.02_9.10.0522 but the included and installed version is nVidia PhysX_drivers 10.04.02_9.10.0512.
As for benchmark results, with 2x480 running in SLI (not dedicated PhysX), I got 58 FPS AVG in the in-game benchmark, so for all intents and purposes 60FPS capped with everything maxed out including in-game AA. Actual gameplay in the demo however was much more erratic, FPS often dropping down into the 20-30s driving around outdoors but I imagine this is more of a view distance/CPU issue similar to GTA4 (will test this more later). And indoors in the warehouse area with fire, the drop down to FPS in the teens, which again I believe to be a bug, as FPS indoors normally is closer to 60FPS capped.
Edit: Nm fix already found, see here: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79364

I just wanted to chime on regarding 3D Vision Support for Mafia 2
We relesaed a newer version of CD 1.33 and 3D Vision 258.96 which updates the profile for Mafia 2 demo available now. Here were the fixes.

• Mafia II – updated profile settings for 3D Vision-Ready rating. This profile also updates the profile for the Mafia 2 trial which will be coming out soon.

• StarCraft II – fixed profile to properly recognize the retail game executable name (SC2.exe) to match the current 3D Vision rating of “Goodâ€

• TRINE – new profiles fixes that allow the game to be ratedâ€3D Vision-Ready†when used with the TRINE patch v1.08, available via Steam.
If you havent tried TRINE as well, I really suggest it, since it looks amazing in 3D.

can anyone verify what I am seeing. I have a 480 and a dedicated 250 card for physx. the performance goes WAAAY down with physx, way too much for a dedicated card. I turned on the SHOW PHYSX VISUAL INDICATOR option and it shows that Physx is running on CPU and NOT on my dedicated card as is set in the control panel. I think there is something wrong with the physx driver packaged with Mafia 2.

Thanks for the update AndrewF, Mafia 2 does look pretty good in 3D, but there's more ghosting than usual (middle). There's also a problem with PhysX runtime that's installed by default, there's already a working fix detailed here: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79364
Also, any chance you guys expose the settings in the 3D Vision driver so that we can make some of these changes ourselves? Just looking at the changes in SC2, it looks like you guys are able to selectively decide what to render in 2D or either stereo or same view for both eyes. It seems with SC2, you just changed the menu overlays, health bars and mouse cursor to 2D instead of stereo/3D, resulting in a much better 3D experience. If we make suggestions like this for specific games to improve compatibility, is this something you guys would be able to adjust in the 3D driver? Thanks.

Ya you need to follow the fix steps here: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79364
Basically uninstall the PhysX driver in Control Panel, then reinstall the PhysX installer found in your steam folder: %:\Steam\steamapps\common\mafia ii - public demo\3rd

That seemed to do it *it reads PHYSX-GPU now and the frames have gone up BUT what is still weird is that my EVGA Precision monitor still does not see the GPU2 (my 250) as doing anything. (no temp change and no activity) Everything is set correctly in the control panel (250 set for physx). Any ideas?
Thanks.
Basically uninstall the PhysX driver in Control Panel, then reinstall the PhysX installer found in your steam folder: %:\Steam\steamapps\common\mafia ii - public demo\3rd

Not sure, can you try choosing "CPU" then Apply, then switch back to GTS 250 and Dedicate to PhysX, then hit Apply again? I don't have a dedicated PhysX card so I can't say for sure if it works sorry.

Thanks.

Any ideas?
Also, any chance you guys expose the settings in the 3D Vision driver so that we can make some of these changes ourselves? Just looking at the changes in SC2, it looks like you guys are able to selectively decide what to render in 2D or either stereo or same view for both eyes. It seems with SC2, you just changed the menu overlays, health bars and mouse cursor to 2D instead of stereo/3D, resulting in a much better 3D experience. If we make suggestions like this for specific games to improve compatibility, is this something you guys would be able to adjust in the 3D driver? Thanks.

Not sure, can you try choosing "CPU" then Apply, then switch back to GTS 250 and Dedicate to PhysX, then hit Apply again? I don't have a dedicated PhysX card so I can't say for sure if it works sorry.
