Hurry up and add support for the Samsung S27A950D nvidia!
  1 / 2
Now that Samsung have released the S27A950D 3D monitor, we now have a 27" LED LCD 3D monitor with excellent picture quality on the market. It looks damned sexy too! Look at it!

Like something out of a sci-fi movie! The problem? NVIDIA don't have it on their list of supported monitors! Enough though it's a 120 hertz monitor, 3D Vision will not work since the software doesn't recognize the monitor. Which sucks, because this monitor would be awesome for 3D gaming, and I'm not too keen on having to use Samsung's software. So hurry up and add this monitor to your list of supported monitors NVIDIA! I really want to buy this monitor, but it will be pointless unless I can play 3D games on it! Don't make me beg!

Its not excellent , TN panel , bad contrast, no way its any better than the other LCD-s , don't believe this garbage.
The glossy screen coating together with the low brightness of the monitor was the only and not very serious problem for me.
CRT beats the hell outta this nonsense when it comes to image quality, but delude yourself with your sci-fi stuff if you want.

Contrast:

it has 600:1 with 2d full brightness,

then, you get around 200 with 3D decimated brightness.

"Sci-Fi" for real... On one hand they sell 15 million contrast bogus TV-s , on the other , 200 contrast bogus monitors... K THX... nice job...

RGB LED is capable of CRT levels, rebadged 2D (blue) LED is incapable.

RGB LED is too expensive, they stopped using it in 2009, because they want profit.

Back on the original topic.
NVidia have stated in these forums that Samsung "didn't work with them" on the S27A950, so my guess is you will never see support for this monitor.

I've seen it stated here that to get a 3DVision sticker on the monitor, the display manufacturer has to pay NVidia.

The monitot actually works with 3d Vision. Just set it to 120Hz and frame sequential 3D mode. Connect the nVidia 3D vision emitter (just required as a dongle to enable the 3D driver features) and select "Generic CRT" as stereo output mode.
If the frames are swapped for left/rigt, just disable/enable 3D via Ctrl-T or switch L/R via the monitor OSD.

Regarding 3D TV Play support through the monitors HDMI 1.4 connector, nVidia is not willing to add this, since this is a monitor and not a HDTV.

Btw, the 3D on this monitor is ok. There is a slight ghosting visible in some games but in general I'm satisfied. I have not problem with the brightness. The glasses are synchronized via radio and not IR and the link is rock solid, so this is also a step in the right direction.

I have purchased a S27A950D monitor from Samsung. I have ordered an Nvidia 3D vision kit witch I will only receive late September. I hope for this to work. I also hope Nvidia will be supporting this monitor with a driver update. So far this is one of the nicest monitors on the market for picture quality and esthetic looks. The specs are perfect for 3D, 120hz, so why not add it to 3D vision support?

I don't agree entirely. Although i DID end up taking this product back, (it does not work with 3D Vision). I personally felt the picture was very rich, and the blacks very black. Much better even, than my replacement; The Acer HN274H.

So this monitor has no use for gaming at all really. And IMO the 2d-3d conversion is, as always, a joke.

Nvidia will unlikely support this monitor ever, because Samsung and Nvidia divorced basically.

And for everybody's information, Nvidia also moderated the "S27A950 3D Vision work-around thread". Those comments have now been deleted surprise surprise.

This monitor falls short in many areas. The 3D has bad ghosting and the back light is way too high and washes out the display. I tried several of these montiors and returned them all, Samsung's quality control is horrible!

Sure, the colours are not the most realistic and natural and yes it has some ghosting in 3d mode but the design and the glossy contrast and the fact that this monitor is the thinest I have seen yet is enough for me to be satisfied with. I don't care if the colours are not the most realistic or someting like that but for gaming, most importantly in 2d, this monitor is actually really good.

I dont know why most here on the forums are all raging about this display but well... who cares.
Haters gonna hate...

But back to the topic: Nvidia will most likely not support this monitor any time soon. So you either choose to use Tri-Def or 3D Vision in CRT-Mode (which looks quite amazing on the SA27950). Just dont use the latest beta driver 290.36. It's missing CRT mode for some reason.

It's been stated that this Display is not going to get any official support.

The bad ghosting was attributed to the overdrive or something that, once disabled/turned off ghosting improved to an almost nonexistent level. I can't remember exactly what was turned off, all references to it were deleted by moderators. It's not a bad monitor, I've seen it and demoed it in the store. But, it is unsupported by Nvidia and supported by AMD HD3D, your choice.

If I were to purchase one of these monitors where can I find the driver download that will enable 3D so I can watch 3D blu-ray movies and will this monitor display in 2D at 120Hz? Which port do I use if possible.....Dual DVI or HDMI 1.4a cable?

3D Blu-Ray support should be included with the bundled DDD drivers, but you will most likely need an additional Blu-Ray 3D software player like Cyberlink PowerDVD or Arcsoft TMT. It does support 2D at 120Hz over dual-link DVI. If you want 3D gaming support you have DDD and there are some unofficial workarounds to get this display working with 3D Vision if you want to do some digging.
