3D hurting folks eyes ? whats wrong with people?
  2 / 4
Not everyone has eyes that can see and respond very quickly. I personally have no problems watching 3D stuff, but my cousin would easily get eye strain watching the same thing.

For me, paying old FPS like Goldeneye on the console in 2D would make me sick in 20mins, while modern FPS would do nothing to me. Probably because I'm no longer use to the framerate in Goldeneye.

Eye strain is a valid argument, not everyone can handle it. The other arguments on the other hands are jokes.

fixed convergence is not cool for us projector guys. Also, the bad setting can be circumvented by trying screenshots first! Or videos.

OFC those messed up screenshots won't help, LOL. Maybe you are right we 'd want tutorial screenies.

And Im only makin fun of the defiant "flicker" guys.

I too get frustrated with fallacious comments from people who clearly have never gamed in modern 3D. I went to 100% depth on my 22" LCD monitor on day 2 and havent looked back since. I show off 3D to my friends at 100% depth and they are always gobsmacked. My fav comment from an older friend, 'I can see why kids get easily addicted to games these days'

even now 3d hurts my eyes in Certain games, then you throw ghosting even worse. BUT I have to play the game in 3d ... I just have to.. I am addicted to the pain.

Ya know, that's got some pretty good screenshotting and video recording advice in it, thanks for the link! (Divergence!? Jeez, I bet that is harsh. Divergence would tell you the object is actually behind you!)

Gamespot itself is getting a bit annoying with respect to 3D. A recent article proclaimed that Sony was 'leading the charge' toward 3D! Huh?? NVIDIA got there last year, but Sony is leading the charge!? Of course, they're only talking about console systems. Several PC owners made it known just how wrong the article was.

Still, the comments show that NVIDIA has a serious PR problem on their hands. A lot of people are equating 3D to that cheap conversion tripe they see in the theaters. This isn't like anti-aliasing or something where you can just show how sweet it is to everyone, either. I'm thinking they are going to have to start giving some systems away to the opinion makers. Those of us who do have 3D need to go out and tell people just how good it is (*exactly* how good it is - no glossing over freaky water effects or the darkness issues).

Yeah I think a lot of the problems are due to miscalibrated 3D projectors in theaters or in the case of 3D Vision, someone not aware of the Convergence settings and adjustments. Plus add to that the fact not everyone's vision is the same so a setting that is comfortable for one person may not be comfortable to others. That's why I'm skeptical about these "no glass" solutions, as they put even more strict limitations on viewing angles and positions. To a lesser degree, seating distance and viewing angle can have an impact on what is comfortable in 3D, especially on big screens like in the theatre.

I remember the first time I watched Avatar in 3D before I had bought my 3D Vision kit, neither I nor the people I saw it with were impressed and we all specifically commented on the uncomfortable near-field/pop-out effects. Turns out whoever calibrated the projector probably didn't focus for that, as my 2nd screening was much better because it was properly calibrated. That's really the approach everyone should take even with 3D Vision, you want to make sure you calibrate properly for the closest near-field/pop-out effects without breaking gameplay overall, unfortunately some games will still have uncomfortable levels of separation at certain depth settings regardless how much you tweak convergence.

There is a big difference between temporary eye strain and permanent eye damage. Some reports indicated that watching a lot of 3D material could permanently damage your vision.

There is absolutely no medical evidence to back that up. Yes you can give yourself a headache and some level of eye strain especially with wrongly set-up equipment. But it will not permanently damage your eyes, despite the temporary unpleasantness.
