getting 3d vision 2 kit now a good idea ?

now that Nvidia likely stop making these things I'm thinking of getting a set before they're gone. I currently still use version 1 kit.

Yes. Future is uncertain but at the least nothings going to stop you using 418 branch drivers and playing the hundreds of fixes on the blog. Looks like I'll be getting yet another kit as a backup *sigh* Unless theres a game that requires a driver in future should still be fine at least for a while. Devil May Cry 5 is looking worth it alone even in the early WIP imo

that's what i thought too, staying with 418 for as long as necessary until the next 3d solution presents itself. Just have to go thru the pain of install/uninstall drivers per new games' demand.

I'll be getting a second kit for backup... I remember reading about the pyramid emitter being quite fragile, some people just dropped it once and it stopped working. scary stuff.

If you care about any ghosting you're seeing with V1, then I highly recommend V2. The lightboost technology can't be beaten. It blasts you with brightness and the glasses reduce it. This means the contrast that usually causes ghosting won't be a problem. Also I remember the glasses being more comfortable.

my benq monitor is lightboosted and i think there could have been some improvement even with kit v1 compared to my previous monitor. v2 is on the way, 129 from b&h, best price i can find, free shipping and no tax if not in NY. feel much better with a backup.

I don't know... this sounds a little like rushing out and getting a PC that can still run Windows XP. I'm dubious about how long we'll be able to keep using 418 drivers. It isn't just the video card side that forces you to update, you know. Eventually, you won't be able to update Windows. Newer games won't be playable because the special fixes for them are only in the latest drivers. If somebody can get an open source system set up then maybe we can continue on for a while longer. Then again, maybe not. Might be better to save your money up for a new VR (or AR?) headset.

the main idea is to have a backup kit before the supply dries up. How long the driver will be practically useful is of secondary importance, since nvdia already said at least another yr of official support, so couple more yrs with win10 is possible with 3dvision. After that, VR and possibly other 3d solutions also will be likely possible. So bottom line is it'll cost 129 bucks for an assured 3d gaming for at least 2 yrs, pretty steep, i know, but there is no other way if 3d gaming in hi res is your priority.

I already bought a second kit last year, so I'm ready for the supply drought. I'm still mainly using the first kit, since 2014, and it works perfectly fine (but one glass is a bit scratched from bad cleaning. Only visible if I don't wear them). I expect my hardware to survive at least until 2030, if my monitor doesn't die before that :p. But having a RTX 2080Ti GPU (if/when I buy it) until that time is unrealistic.

I just ordered another kit off ebay. Quite a few brand new options there. I'm seriously considering an SLI 2080ti at this point but SLI support has got worse and worse last couple of years and its starting to cause me issues with 3dvision so I am loathe to give nvidia more of my money with this news. I just love how they have chosen to treat the people that spend the most money on their gear.

Is it correct then till 2020 we can update all other things on PC, but after that we need to make backup of system or Windows auto update will break driver and if You don't have backup then You can't install 418 driver ?

I have the 3d vision 1 kit and the 3d vision 2 kit (purchased for the second pair of glasses so another person can watch, and with my monitor, the Rog-PG278QR, I don't notice ghosting with either pair of glasses. The 3d vision 1 kit's pyramid transmitter and the 3d visions 2 kits pyramid transmitter look identical, and the model number printed on the bottom of both show the same number, so the difference is ONLY in the glasses. I also own a very old viewsonic VX2268wm 3Dvision certified monitor that I started with, and it has visible ghosting with either pair. I would buy another Rog-PG278QR because it looks damn good. (and i might) Also if you use windows 7, you don't need to worry about auto updates... just sayin...
