Dynamic Shadows not supported?
Hi,

i recognized that often i had to turn off dynamic shadows to use 3DV. (Mass Effect, Batman)

Why is that?

Is NVIDIA working on the support for dynamic shadows or is it impossible to fix?

It's the way some 3D game engines are designed, unfortunately. In other words, this is an issue that cannot be fixed by the 3D Vision drivers, or any other S3D driver for that matter.

Some of the S3D issues in these games need to be brought to the attention of the game developers themselves so that it can be coded correctly from the get go. I say this with experience as a former 3D engine developer. Fortunately, S3D is the next big thing and more and more developers, like EA for example, are finally catching on.

Okay, i was confused by the 3D Vision Logo in Batman. I figured that the game is optimized for 3D Vision and all graphical options should work.

Thanks for you answer, good to know.

Are you playing the demo or the release version? It seemed to me that the demo did a better job with dynamic shadows and 3d (my memory could be failing me though), so maybe Batman will see a zero day patch since it doesn't come out until tomorrow.

Yeah to me too.

I just read the Nvidia-Game-Support-List, and Batman is just a "good" ...

We should probably wait a day or two before we make any significant judgments about Batman and 3d stereo. I messed around with the D2D version that was all over the net and it simply didn't look as good as the demo in 3d. I'm pretty sure it isn't my imagination.

All i have to say about the Batman game is, thats a great game and 3DV is still awesome. I'm not going to play the game till it's released, cause its worth buying.

I just noticed after buying Mass Effect, that Dynamic Shadows also don't work ... thats why a started the topic.

Yeah, many games have trouble with dynamic shadows and 3dv. It is perfectly possible for dynamic shadows to coexist with 3d as is shown in Resident Evil 5, FEAR 2 and many other games. It all depends on what method the dev uses. With any luck nV is out there educating devs on the best methods of shadows and other techniques in order to get the best 3dv compatibility possible. Course, they are most likely just ignoring 3dv and working on dx11 and worrying about that lameness called eyefinity.
