I don't know, it definitely looks better and higher res. I'm not the only one who thinks so though:
"For me there is actually a loss of detail when switching from 1080p24 to 720p60 I don't know if this is something to do with the processing of the HMZ T1 as the panels are only 720p."

So maybe there's something in the HMZ-T1 processing that does a great job at upsampling the image to 1080p.

He is agreeing with you birthright.
But its like this.
HMZ-T1 is a 1080P display.
My projector is a 720P display.
Your display looks better at 1080P 2D. Then mine at 720P 2D. Cause its like 2.5x more pixels. 3D is at 24 hz though.
Your display looks worse at 720P 2D/3D then mine at 720P 2D/3D because mine is native res at 720P.
Basically Xbox 360/PS3 are 720P consoles. They will look better on my display.

I don't know anything about the Optoma, but I have looked into the Acer H6510BD.
Projector Central's review of the H6510 is a great overview and includes a direct comparison to the W1070 on the last page.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/acer_h6510bd_3d_home_video_projector_review.htm?page=Key-Features
In short, the Acer has problems with both color accuracy and color brightness. Its RGBCMY color wheel prioritizes white brightness over color brightness, which gives them high lumen measurements at the cost of picture quality compared to the W1070's RGBRGB. How they match up for 720p60hz 3D gaming is an open question because of how these work with DLP-link, they give up either a white or red segment of the color wheel, so they might have equivalent color and brightness in 3D. But if you factor in 3D Blu-rays and 2D content, the W1070 is clearly superior. The Acer is a bit cheaper though.
Thanks, yes I'd already read that review and the direct comparison was very useful.
Currently, in the UK, both projectors are priced very similarly, so on that basis the BenQ seems the obvious choice. My current monitors are BenQ and reading the manuals of both the Acer and the BenQ, it appears that they both support 1280x800x120Hz (although not 1280x720) so a 3d vision workaround might be possible as well.
I know the reviews point towards more accurate colours on the BenQ, but I ask myself if I would notice the difference subjectively and whether the extra lumens on the Acer would more than compensate, given my intention to use quite a bit for 3d.
The optoma is an unknown at this point, although there are plenty of separate threads on avforums and avsforums about all three projectors. I wish someone would do a proper 1080p 3d shootout feature.
Having said all that, I bought my last projector 'blind' and never looked back, so you could say that whatever I buy I'll be happy with as they're all good.
Selfishly, I'm hoping someone with direct experience will be able to tell me which one to buy and why, but I'm also hoping that this discussion will help others.

I doubt you'd get the extra lumens in 3D mode. The white segment, which is responsible for that high lumen measurement, probably gets used for the DLP-link flash instead of the image.
In 2D, you'd get the full light output of the projector but really it's only the whites that are very bright. Basically you get an imbalance of bright whites and dimmer colors. Because traditional lumen measurements are only white lumen measurements, it's kind of deceptive in this way. The Acer can sacrifice colors for a higher lumens, but the projector just isn't brighter in the way we'd actually want it to be brighter (at least not for home theater).
My Acer H5360BD works like that/ In 2D, it's bright, but whites are noticeably significantly brighter than anything else. It doesn't look bad, but it would surely look better with an RGBRGB color wheel without white segments. In 3D, it's color wheel's RGBCYW's W segment gets used for the DLP-link flash and the CY segments get shut off for balance, leaving RGB to make the image. The actual image is made up of less light, but fortunately the whites are in balance with the colors.

Hi Just found this site. Have had the BEnq1070 for 3 months greatprojector. 2 things though It is not a short through so you have to have reasonable size room for it. The 1080 is a short throw with same specs. One major issue having a real problem setting up 3d on it. Have been told need 120hz to watch 3d but on here someone is saying 24 hz is fine. any got any thoughts on this,,,,anyone actually got 1070 prjecting 3d ?????

The benq w1080 looks good but it's not coming out here in Europe apparently.
For gaming on 3d, if you have an Nvidia card, download the 3d TV Play here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-14day-trial.html and follow the instructions. Once you're done try to download the Trine 2 demo on Steam, it's one of the most beautiful games in 3d and it works from the get go.

Airion, thanks for the comprehensive reply.
I think your 5360 works exactly the same way as my viewsonic in terms of the colour wheel configuration.
As soon as you switch to 120Hz the image becomes noticeably dimmer and I think I read somewhere on the MTBS3D forums (tritosine I think) explained about not all the segments being used.
With all that in mind and the fact that the BenQ has an RGBRGB wheel, it does sound like the better option for image quality. I think the optoma has an RGBRGB conmfiguration as well though.

Thanks birthright. The problem seemed to get worse when I installed 3dtv the other night so I reverted back. When 3dtv is installed I cannot access the test portion of nvidea setup. It just goes sraight to the emmitter stage. I havn't got one of those I just want to watch 3d through my 1070 projector. I can't even watch lara croft in 3d maybe the glasses are the wrong ones they only operate upto 120 hz?????

IIRC I read in the AVS Forums that w1070 glasses have to be 144 hz, so maybe that's the reason. I think that you should ask in the AVS W1070 thread here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1435626/benq-w1070-dlp-full-hd-3d-ready-with-lens-shift-for-1000 They will probably know better about your issues.

after four years with acer H5360 and H5360BD I switched to acer H6510BD and I'm pleased in the same way as the years before. the dimensions got some inch enlargement and at the moment I'm at ~140" - nice as ever.
1080p-shutter over HDMI1.4 (3DTVplay) is not the best way to enjoy games, because of its 23fps limitation, but 720p-side-by-side feels similiar to 720p/120Hz sequential shutter.
both graphicscards are powerful enough to apply SGSSAA while shuttering and as I have said before, I'm pleased as ever. my primary PC uses GTX Titan and my secondary PC is powered by GTX690.
here - in germany - acer offers unlimited warranty to the lamp in the first year. that gives a good feel.

Out of all the projector manufacturers, I think Viewsonic is the only one that offers a three year warranty on the entire projector. One year limited lamp warranty.
