BenQ MW519 3D resolution / aspect-ratio issue [Solved]
Hello, everyone. After spending quite some time trying to find a solution, I hope I may find an answer here. I have a BenQ MW519 projector that works great in 3D (1280x800 native resolution, I play at 1280x720 in 3D TV Play, with a 3D Vision emitter connected via USB). However, I now have a rather big problem in BioShock Infinite and Batman Arkham Origins (possibly other games, too) - selecting 1280x720 in the games´ options menu will switch the projector to 1280x800 instead of the expected... 1280x720, which makes playing in 3D via HDMI impossible (1920x1080 at 24hz works in both games, but is unplayable). Returning to desktop will switch the pj back to 1280x720, with 3D activated and no further issues. Metro: Last Light and Dishonored, to name just two games that work flawlessly, do not have this issue (1280x720 is selected in-game and displayed as such by the projector). Please let me know if you have any ideas/solutions to this. Thanks in advance. Mike

It sounds like you need to crate a custom resolution for the games to recognise this as it doesn't seem to already. Pleaying games with 3D play at 24fps max... wow... :(

I have tried to create a custom resolution for 3D, but I have not managed to get any results. Indeed, 24fps max is very bad. I cannot and do not play anything at 1920x1080@24hz, but this 3D resolution works in BI and Batman AO, as opposed to 1280x720@60hz, which does not. I have the latest (334.67 BETA) NVIDIA driver, but this issue occurs on the previous version as well (both on my PC and on my notebook). Based on my attempts so far, I would say the games themselves have a problem (as this does not happen in other titles). Maybe someone here could reproduce this issue with their own 3D projector and confirm/infirm this.

RefreshLock allows a person to overide refresh rates and resolutions but it hasn't been updated in a long time and might not work with newer OS and drivers. I'm guessing the game is launching using your native resolution, so you could rewrite your EDID. Monitor Asset Manager does this fairly easily using an edit function. But you'll need to use the proper information that will work with your projector. http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm Maybe someone could post their specs for something like an Acer H5360 For my monitor it reads "1920x1080" 148.500 1920 2008 2052 2200 1080 1084 1089 1125 +hsync +vsync (do not use this)

Sorry to thread jack, but I'm not self-absorbed enough to create an entirely new topic for this, and since this thread is coincidentally about the exact same projector I'm considering buying, I figured that it's at least semi-relevant ;). I've been S-3D gaming for about 3 years now. Started with the Asus 23VGH 3d vision monitor, and last year I "upgraded" to the BenQ XL2420TX monitor last year, which I had justified thinking it would be nice to be able to use with my PS3 and potentially the new gen consoles, not knowing the 3D on it would be crap... and I wasn't too bothered by the lower brightness of 3D Vision 1, so the upgrade to a Lightboost monitor probably wasn't worth the extra $ in my eyes, so I'm already reeling from a bit of buyers remorse. Anyways, I've been reading up on people going heads over heels about 3D projectors on here, that apparently the larger size makes a significant difference in 3D, so the inner gear whore in me is screaming to buy buy buy, and in my obsessive-compulsive browsing online, I've found this projector to be the most affordable option (not wanting to go any lower than WXGA resolution), but still, that's a cool $500 (more like $600 after tax) that I probably shouldn't spend and put towards other priorities. Not to mention the fact that I live in a bachelor apt, where space is at a premium, but I could probably make it work with a bit of shifting around. Clearly I'm rationalizing that I shouldn't get it, so I guess I'm asking someone on here to sell me on the idea! :D Specifically, can anyone give me their feedback on whether it really would make a substantial difference going from a 3D monitor to a projector, and that the downgrade from 1080P to 720P is not a significant factor (at the very least, I'm sure that'll bump up my frames some, although running a GTX780 has made that pretty much a non-issue on all but the newest high end games)? Any specific feedback on this projector, and whether it's not ideal (other than what's mentioned in the OP, which I have a feeling can be resolved through some workaround)? Eg. Any input lag, and is the brightness sufficient with active shutter glasses? Also, I still have my 3D vision emitter, will that work fine or will I need any additional hardware, since I'm assuming this projector had 3D capabilities, but not bundled with hardware (which I may be wrong). I also read that this unit has issues with "rainbow" colours, particularly on dark areas, which is a somewhat common occurrence in, I'm guessing, lower end projectors. Can anyone comment on how the feel about that when it occurs? Hope someone can answer some of these questions, and help sway me one way or the other, since I hate being in buyers purgatory! lol.

The BenQ MW519 is a fine 3D projector for its price and for a non-obsessive user. You raise a lot of legitimate questions, but I find it difficult to answer most of them, becasue I tend to be so absorbed by the experience of playing a game like Dead Space in flawless 3D (after installing the Helixmod, of course :) ) that I tend to ignore / not notice various issues. Firstly, space is really not a problem. I use it across a small room (three metres across), for a 2.3 m diagonal. Basically, it's huge and tends to lend a lot of immersion to games that is impossible to achieve on a monitor, even a large one. So yes, going from a 3D monitor to a projector is a huge leap in what gaming feels like. In short, it's unbelievable. Once you go... you know, you never go back. :) As for the downgrade from 1080p to 720p, don't worry about it. There is this little thing called SGSAA. If you get this to work, there will be zero jaggies on the screen. Very crisp image at 720p, with little performance loss (especially on a GTX 780). Again, size matters in this case. I usually tend to forget about the little details when I am fighting vertigo in Dishonored or I am dodging projectiles and whatnot in Mass Effect. But by no means does this imply that details don´t actually become more important on a huge 3D screen. For instance, I turned the camera in Mass Effect 3 in such a way that Garrus´ head came into focus, was one meter tall and was basically looking over the edge of the screen. That is when I first truly saw the incredible artwork-at-work that went into creating these characters. One does not spend half an hour admiring minute details on a monitor... because they are too SMALL to appreciate. And the 3D effect makes things visible in a way that is hard to describe. I actually notice things that leave no impression in 2D or on a small screen. Everything is truly fleshed out, a door is a door, a vista is a vista etc. (I use a registry modification to push depth beyond what NVIDIA allows by default, according to the type of game). Regarding the shutter glasses, my BenQ MW519 came with a pair (main reason I decided to get off the fence and buy the thing). I also bought a second pair, also a BenQ original, but a different model. The glasses in the bundle are excellent. The image is darker with them than without, of course, but I don´t care. The other pair (the one I actually spent money on) is bad - it causes a lot of ghosting if I move my head even a few degrees from the "ideal" position. As far as I am concerned, the glasses can turn the whole "gaming on a projector" thing into an annoying experience. Be careful what you buy before blaming the projector! I have not noticed any input lag, and the 3D Vision emitter (bought second-hand especially for the pj) works without a hitch (nothing else is required to activate 3DTV Play). I have not noticed the rainbow effect on this projector (although I did on my old Acer X1160). Last, but not least, I... performed :) a firmware update on the BenQ MW519. I found it by accident on a forum. Before the update, the remote control used to stop working after a few minutes (to my infinite frustration). The problem has been solved. However, the projector still does not like me to change resolution and 2D/3D modes to often and starts having issues in 3D. A pj restart solves the problem (and making sure the game is set at the correct resolution before starting it helps). All in all, it is a good projector. I have 700 hours of gaming with it and, when the game is truly optimized for 3D, the experience is amazing (Thank you, MW519, for making Lady Boyle's Last Party level in Dishonored, in 3D, on a big screen, one of the best experiences in recent gaming history (surround sound helped, too) :) ). ------------- Now, back to my original problem. Has anyone discovered why Bioshock Infinite and Batman Arkham Origins cannot switch to 1280x720@60hz? I really do not want to upgrade to a 1080p projector, yet.

Wow. I knew I wanted a projector before, but now I really want a projector.

Might be something related to 3D TV Play. When running 3D Vision on my 720p projector both Batman and BI are running at 1280x720@120Hz.

Same problem as mstegaru on my W1080ST. Any fix for Batman Origins and BI to work 720p@60?

Thanks to enthralled's EDID override solution (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/573000/3d-vision/benq-w-1080st-3dtv-play-help/2/), both BioShock Infinite and Batman Arkham Origins now switch to 1280x720@60hz correctly and are completely playable in 3DTV Play via HDMI on the BenQ MW519 projector. Thank you.
