3DTV Play Ghost Image Problem
Well this is gonna be hard to explain. I have had the nvidia 3d Vision kit since June with the Alienware desktop monitor that is on the list and everything has always worked flawlessly. (I love this thing). But just this week I purchased a Samsung UN46C7000 series 3D Tv and was psyched to find out that nvidia released this 3dtv play update to allow it to work with 3d Tv's.

Now everything is up and running and the 3d Works but I have noticed that there is a major issue happening. Even though the 3d is working correctly, there is what I call a "Shadow Image" or "Ghost Image" of whats on screen that starts just above the halfway point of the tv horozontaly. Its like the image has been sliced in half and its only showing a faint ghostly image of it on the top half of the screen along with the normal 3d game. Image a perfect 3d image but behind it on the top half of the screen only is a ghost image of the same thing, like a white/clear shadow of the image. This happens not only in none 3d enabled games like say a bioshock 2 or dead space. But it happens with 3d vision ready games such as Batman:AA and COD: Black Ops.

Say I shoot an exploding barrel in Black ops the giant ball of fire dosn't start on the ground at the conister. Its actually cut off at the middle of the screen and only shows the top half of the burst. Now everything is in 3d still but theres almost this 3rd imaage glitch going on. Bioshock 2 the water puddles look wrong also. I have to close one eye to see them otherwise it looks like a graphical glitch. (Something that didn't happen with the Alienware approved monitor.) And something like Darksiders which didn't render correctly on the alienware but was still playable, is now completly unplayable. The whole screen is a mess. Almost like MMO's when you "Fall through the game"

Anyone know any settings I can tweek. I am running my games at 1280x720 at 60hz. Movies look awesome, the nvidia test logo looks awesome and for the most part the 3d looks good, I just have this crazy "ghost image" floating around the top half of the screen.

Thanks

Well I have fooled around with it a little and found some things out.

Apparently
Batman: AA
Metro 2033
Just Cause 2
Avatar

All work fine, being Nvidia 3d Vision games.

But:
Call of Duty: Black Ops (which is a Stereoscopic Game although I believe not an Nvidia 3d Vision game)

Will not work in 2d or 3d and has the above mentioned ghost image when running in anything other then 1920x1080 at 60hz, which as you know won't work with 3d anyway with hdmi 1.4 So this game is a no go at least on my Samsung 3d TV with 3DTV Play.

Bioshock 2 won't render water puddles (on the ground at least) in 3d. It flickers and if you close the right eye it disapears all together and shows fine if you close the left eye (although obviously not in 3d anymore). I am assuming the Darksiders issue may also be related to not running unless in 1920x1080 at 60 hz but I havn't tested it yet.

Anyway thats the update for now.

Nice to see you get to test 3DTV play whilst i have to die of old age waiting to play Just Cause 2 in 3d.
Go into your Sammy settings and see if you can find 3d settings, Change 3d optimisation to -1 and wait for it to warm up a bit in 3d mode.
You may find a dramatic difference, do you update your TV's firmware regularly?

Oh yeah and as you have a samsung GET TRIDEF or try the trial,
If you use Tridef and go to the control panel set the tv model to samsung 3-d ready DLP
you can play 1080/30hz which is epic, big difference from 24, cant even see the stutter.
PM me if you need details.

Thanks for the Reply.

I tried the 3d optimisation and it made no difference. Unfortunatly, the problem isn't with the 3d its with COD only running "Correctly" (even in standard 2d) in 1920x1080 at either 60hz or 30hz, although 30hz is hurting performance wise. The ghost image is there even with 3d turned off, so it isn't the 3d thats making it messed up.

I tried the trial of Tridef but none of the displays works with my tv. THey all say couldn't detect your display go to control panel and set the display type. I tried them all none show anything in 3d.

you have to select the one i mentioned and when in game manually put your tv into 3d mode. (checkerboard)

OK my options in the TriDEf 3d Control Panel are

3-D Ready 42" PDP HDTV L/R
3-D Ready 42" PDP HDTV R/L
3-D Ready 50" PDP HDTV L/R
3-D Ready 50" PDP HDTV R/L
3-D Ready DLP(R) HDTV L/R
3-D Ready DLP(R) HDTV R/L

Like I said I tried them all an none will show 3D with the TriDef 3D Experience program. The launcher image, the one that says Play 3D Games/Experience Google Earth in 3D/View Movies and Photos in 3D/Get 3D Movies Online are in 3d but my TV/Glasses won't show it in 3d. Its like looking at a 3D images with naked eyes.

Also Checkerboard is never an option for me, its greyed out. I can do 2d-3d, side by side, or top and bottom.

Hi,

On your TV setup. Rename the source that your PC is plugged in (HDMI 1 -4) or whichever one Rename it to PC or DVI/PC in the Source screen.
This will enable all modes of 3D on the TV.

select 3-D Ready DLP® HDTV L/R as your TV and when you enter a game or whatever, manually change it to checkerboard on your TV.
ouala! 1080p awesomeness.

Hi

Let me comment on two points you raised.

First panel "ghosting" or double images are not controlled by the GPU or the drivers. This is all based upon the 3D TV you selected. You can read more about quality reviews here of 3D TVs http://pressroom.consumerreports.org/pressroom/2010/11/first-ever-rankings-of-3d-performance-show-plasmas-offer-more-realistic-images-than-lcds.html

Second you mentioned a bug with Call of Duty Black Ops where when you zoom down the gun, it blurs. We are aware of that bug and have reported this already to users on this forum. This will be fixed in our next driver update online.

I may have miss spoke about the ghosting problem initially. This is not a 3D ghosting image problem. This is more of graphical problem related to running black ops in 720p at 60hz with the new nvidia drivers and or my TV. Although its is a ghost image in the sence thats its a cloudy pale white image, its actually the game's full image sliced in half and only showing on the top half of the screen. Even shooting exploding barrels sitting on the ground will on show the fire ball of that barrel in the top half of the screen.

Ok after much trial and error, it seems that I have narrowed the issue down to a compatability between the 260.99 drivers and COD and or my TV. COD Black Ops seems to have the biggest issue.

Weather I enable and manually disaable after game starts or disable the 3d Vision in the control panel, black ops in standard 2d at 1280x720 at 60hz isn't correct. This ghost image starting at the halfway point of the TV going up to the top of the screen occurs. So has nothing to do with 3D. Also if I install the TriDef program and run COD at that resolution in 2D, the problem does not occur.

Seems to me its just a driver issue between either nvidia and my tv or nvidia and black ops. Everything else at least Nvidia 3d Vision compatible game wise works fine at that resolution. Again Black ops isn't an "Nvidia 3D Vison" game its just a stereoscopic 3D game so maybe thats why.

Darksiders is a whole other issue, again in 2D or 3D it won't work well at that resolution, but at 1080p its fine at least in 2D. So again seems to me to be connected to the newere nvidia drivers, since this didn't happen before.

Thanks for all the help its been interesting messing around with this.

Well I got a screen shot here of Dead Space to show the problem.

This is a 2D screen shot running at 1280x720 at 60Hz. 3D is disabled. Note this problem goes away at 1920x1080 at 60hz. This is the same exact thing with CoD Black ops. 1080p is fine but 720p has this issue. Now Batman AA has no issues at any resolution and looks amazing in both 2D and 3D. And bioshock while looking good at 720p in 3D it does only display water through one eye which obviously cause the water to flicker. Close the left eye and the water disappears.
