tl;dr - hdmi audio works until switching to 3d mode and only a pc restart fixes it
Hello everyone,
Firstly I want to say thank you to whoever is reading this... any input is appreciated and i'll try to be as clear as possible explaining my issue.
Hardware:
video: gtx 295 + 3d vision kit(purchased long before the tv), 9800gtx+ physx
motherboard: Asus M3N-HT Deluxe/mempipe
os: Win 7 x64
tv: sony kdl-46ex720
drivers: 296.1 + 295.51
Okay, so I have everything connecting properly I believe and software-wise setup as well. Im using the nvidia dvi-hdmi cable to connect the tv. Ive connected the motherboard s/pdif to the video card, set the nvidia control panel to use the sony tv for audio, and changed the default audio device to the spdif. When I turn everything on, everything works great... I get 1920x1080 no problems, and i can hear windows audio as well as played music. My problem arises when i switch to 3d mode(720p60). All video's and games are in 3d, however sound is no longer output to the tv. I can play audio and see the windows audio graphs moving but nothing from the tv. If i switch the default device to my usb headset I can hear perfectly, but switching back to spdif gets no audio. The only thing that brings back the audio is switching back to non 3d mode(audio still doesnt work) and then restarting the pc.
I've tried restarting just the windows audio service, audio endpoint builder and all of the nvidia services and they all will not work. I've done clean installs of the nvidia drivers and still no joy.
HDMI input #1 on my tv supports Audio Return Channel so I assumed it may have been a problem with that, but it happens on all inputs.
The back of my motherboard also has the orange spdif as well as the optical spdif which i assumed must be taking control of the device but when i hooked those up to my receiver and tv no audio is detected.
I read another forum that suggested changing the input label to bluray or something else, and i've tried all of them with no luck.
If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. Again thank you for reading.

We are currently tracking a bug for this internally already, this issue started with the 296.10 drivers, in the mean time I suggest installing 285.62 drivers which do not have this issue present.

Thanks for the welcome and the info about the driver.
I've installed 285.62 but now i fear that 3dtv play isnt available. I dont have any options now for setting a 3d resolution. i've reconnected my 3d vision pyramid receiver and i still dont get any options for configuring 3d.

When you installed the 285.62 did you do an express installation or use the Custom install option with the "Perform clean installation" box checked?

I did perform a clean install... It would appear it took 2 more restarts for the menu to appear. I've tested it all and it is functioning now when switching back and forth.
