Hi,

Since I am having some issue with stereo3d wih my SAMSUNG 3D DLP TV, I am considering maybe invest in one of thoes 120hz lcd monitor.

But 22'' made by Samsung and Viewsonic just seems a bit too small for me. So does anyone know how soon that any manufactures will release a monitor that's bigger like at least 24'' to like 30'' size?

I know this answer may sound a bit silly, but it is true. Ever since switching to 3D I play with the monitor very close to my face (much closer than I used to play in 2D mode) -- so the apparent size of this monitor is much larger than my older 22-inch. /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

If I upgraded to an even larger monitor, I'd just slide the monitor back a bit to compensate. It already consumes my entire field of view (for the most part), so I don't see any real problem. And the resolution is enough to look fine at that distance. (Maybe 1-2 feet from my face.)

Like I said, this answer may sound silly, but it is true.

Apparent size of your monitor = Actual Size / Distance to your face

My living room televison is huge compared to my computer monitor, but its apparent size is actually smaller. Just food for thought. Plus -- my computer monitor has a higher resolution, so it is "bigger" in every respect except for its listed size.

haha Metyx,

While it's silly, but it's definitely true :)

22'' does have it's pro in terms of size advantage, like it does fit on your desktop nicely without bring the whole living room tv into your desk....it's just that before I take the plunge into this 22'' monitor, I would like to know if the release of anything bigger is just right at the corner

I want a 1920x1080 3D TV. LCD's already run at 120Hz, so the technology must be close. Hopefully Samsung pulls through this year, given that they've done it with the monitor already.

Another thing to consider: when in 3D mode the monitor "seems" to extend both forward and backward -- so you are actually playing in a box rather than a screen.

This gives an incredible perception of "bigger size" because your brain thinks that your monitor takes up the whole desk (in a manner of speaking).

This is especially true for World of Warcraft -- a game that is properly implementing 3D such that the playing field comes out of the front of the monitor like it should. A lot of 3D shooters are still "in the screen" so size would be more important for those games.

Doesn't dlp do a checkerboarding s3d effect? So you are losing half the resolution, so really only 540p in stereo3d. IZ3D is supposed to be coming out with 26 inch version of thier s3d monitor, but Nvidia doesn't seem to want to natively support this product, even though it has won many awards.

Yes! I've found the exact same thing!

I can pull the monitor a foot or two away from my face (just far away enough to not be blurry) and it becomes more like looking through a window than looking at a screen. Then add your convergence and (like someone else in this thread said) it's like playing in a cube / box. One thing I have found, however, is that as you get closer to the monitor, the depth decreases. It kinda sucks that the depth setting with this solution can't be increased more (unless someone knows a way to hack the setting).

I play 3D shooters like Left 4 Dead and Unreal Tournament 3 as close as I can get to the monitor, while I play WoW a bit farther back. When the monitor is up close, it's like watching a 100-something inch television and comes close to filling my vision. It's great!

yeah, if you're using the monitor just for 3d gaming, 22" is plenty sufficient as you'll want to be no more than a foot or two away from the monitor anyway, so as Metyx said, it fills your field of vision. But some people want the monitor not only for gaming, but also for movies, browsing, etc and 22" may not seem like enough.

But for those of you out there considering a purchase, you should know that 22" used for stereo 3d gaming does not feel "small". However, that said, I'd sell a kidney for one of those 100" digital 3d projectors. LOL Can you IMAGINE?!? :D

Oh yeah, and no word yet on larger LCDs, although LG and Asus are both confirmed/rumored to have one planned. No official timetable for release to market, though.

Samsung are also working on one, it was at the CES show in January at the same time that the 2233RZ was, now at the time it didn't have a production code on it, the only thing I could find on it was P2470HF, but it was a 24" @120hz.

Interesting, I didn't know that. If they already have such a creature I wonder why they would only release the 22" version instead? I can guarantee sales of 3d Vision & the monitor would double as soon as there's a 24" 1900x1200 120Hz LCD on the market. The size of the monitor seems to be the major common argument against going 3dV atm.

I am not sure, when I looked at it it looked like it was good to go. There was no one there from the product team so I couldn't find out a release date but I was told expect it to be 6 months or so (which obviously we are at now).

You people are desperate to rape your PC's performance arn't you. :P

It's bad enough running games in 3D with 2x280GTX's at 1650x1080. :P

It's a shame there are no 3D DLP's in the UK, otherwise I'd buy one of them instead, I want 60" not 22" :D
