Posting a new thread for Rift - Planes of telara mmo as I didnt want to resurrect threads that havent had posts since 31 March /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I was just wondering where we are with the development of the profile for Rift?
It seems strange that the Profile that nvidia added in the newest drivers seems to be worse than doing the exe rename hack and letting it run as a default 3d game?
I just wanted to post to show interest in getting this working as I just forked out for a new Nvidia Card, New Monitor and 3D Glasses to play Rift.

I'm new to 3d gaming but i think profiles are just text messages to say what nvidia in game settings they recommend. I have tested different driver sets with and without profiles and there is no difference. On the other hand the actual drivers can improve upon previous drivers or introduce issues.

I think the developer isn't going to have to fix all the issues remaining on this game in 3D. There is only so much that can be done with profiles on games.

It now correctly identifies the rift game and makes it run WORSE than using default settings?
Its as if the profile was added to correctly identify the game but they didnt have enough time to make any tweaks to it to help /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

We really appreciate you taking the time to respond Andrew, it's just that this doesn't really say anything :) "trying to work with the developer" could either mean that you are working with them to resolve issues, or that you're knocking on their door about it but they're not wanting to work with you...
I know your job must be difficult sometimes in terms of withholding information, I (we) would really appreciate you throwing us a bone on this one... I know you can't give us a date, but a hopeful relative timeframe, or some semblance of progress being made would be greatly appreciated good sir!

In the best case if Trion is working to fix the issues, NVidia doesn't control the timetable, so any date or time frame they give on a forum would be flung back angrily when it missed.
In the worst case, all they can do is expose Trion for not working to fix the issues and that damages any future relationship NVidia might have with them.
I personally wouldn't hold my breath on this one ever being a stellar 3D title. It might improve over where it is but I think there are enough problems that require different approaches in the renderer on Trions part that it would take the graphics programmer or lead engineer wanting to fix them. So unless he's a 3DVision fan I don't see it.

If a game is not 3D Vision Ready or 3D Vision supported then we have to make do with what perceptual depth there is, any problems is down to the games developers to choose if they want to improve upon their titles where 3D is concerned. If a games studio/developer claims their title is 3D Vision Ready or 3D Vision supported and it does not work reasonable then we have grounds for complaint, otherwise we can only ask nicely for extra support.

It really does suck ... I'd be willing to drop WoW and hop on Rift if only the 3d worked as well as it does for blizzard's game.
Oh well, here's hoping Old Republic doesn't disappoint. Anybody in the beta, can tell us how it plays in 3dvision so far?

I understand what you're saying, it's common sense - I didn't ask for a date. What I was hoping for was something like "hopefully we're talking months" or "I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you" or something. I assume that since 3DVision is mentioned on the geforce page for Rift, that SOMETHING must be happening. You're a little negative on the issue; don't forget that Trion is unashamedly trying to compete with WoW, which works beautifully with 3D Vision. It also is 90% of the way to being just fine in 3D it's "only" shadows and one type of lighting effect that are borked... Shadows could be turned off for the short term, which leaves one modification for the title to be playable in 3D - hardly an obstacle that couldn't be overcome.

Is there a way to force the 3D vision to use the default Nvidia 3D setting without having to hack the Rift patch-live.exe and changing the Rift.exe? When I hacked the files to change the rift patcher and the Rift.exe so that the Nvidia profile did not see the game as the old 90's Rift game the 3D was really pretty nice. Now that they've fixed the profile name the game looks terrible in 3D. I just want a way to use default Nvidia 3D setting like as if the game was not on their list.

No, still have to do the reshack and play in low quality.

But that doesn't explain that if left to use the nvidia profile for rift the game doesn't show in 3d correctly...
And using a default 3d profile (by renaming the exe to something like riftgame.exe and editing the riftpatchlive.exe to run it) runs fairly well?
This seems to show that the profiles can have quite an affect on how the game renders on the cards and interacts with the 3d vision?

The game is pretty much unplayable in 3D though.
