Why prevent us from using the monitor of our choice?

Certainly does. I was shocked at how much better the backlight was on the second compared to the first and third, they clouded like crap. I've never used one for 3D, but people rave about projectors, maybe consider those.

It's simple, really. When companies make enough money to pay their staff and shareholders, they can provide us with the products we like. It's a Win-Win situation. By bedgrudging them a profit strategy by wanting to use your own unsupported monitor, you're wanting to turn it into a win-lose situation: you get your 3D, but Nvidia doesn't get your money. That's foolish, as it send them the signal that 3Dvision (already a floundering niche) is not worth their time.[/quote] This applies to the current situation and is true, although I suppose that we would all be better off with one open 3d solution that will work exactly the same on both NVIDIA/AMD that way 3d world can grow. NVidia is killing the 3d by limiting it and keeping it 'closed' sure they make money on certified stuff, but in the long run we all loose because most gaming developers dont care about 3d-vision unless they're associated with nvidia one way or another. If it wasnt for the community how many games would we actually be able to play in flawless 3d? Because there is a difference between good and actually playable - take rome2 for example rated GOOD by Nvidia (yeah their ratings suck but thats another story) but the game is totally unplayable in 3d, for me its just flawless (or close proximity to that) or a no go... I would than play Batman, Witcher, Trine, Max payne3 and Metro thats it, thats the games NVIDIA gave me. They should pay Helix&Co. 50% of the last two years' profit made from 3dvision related stuff. If helix/migoto didnt fix the BI Nvidia would not give a single fuck and I suppose this is going to be the trend for the years to come (unless epic with theri UE4 have native 3d support for 3dvision) so we would have to continue to relay on the community therefore I dont see why I should support NVIDIA if I'm not getting anything in return (they will now push 4K gaming so I doubt we would be able to play games in that resolution maxed out in 3d for some time). Fun fact: I wasn't able to buy 3dvision2 kit in Poland at all. I had to order it from the UK, despite the fact that I had absolutely no problem getting 3dvision certified monitors/projectors so I'm not sure where is the logic in this marketing plan, sell people 3d vision certified stuff but no 3d vision? wtf

tehace, I totally agree that an open 3D platform would be much better. MUCH better. But I think that's a separate issue. At the moment, 3Dvision seems to be the best option, and it's unfortunately a closed platform. Circumventing Nvidia's [admittedly clumsy] profit strategy will not aid in opening 3Dvision up - it will just encourage it to die. And then nobody wins. I certainly hope that an open 3D platform emerges one day that is openly adopted. Maybe the Oculus Rift will play a role in that?
