Hey fellas, I bought the HD66, should be getting it soon..

hey Pix, I decided to go with this one instead of the pro350, remember I asked u for some reviews, Imgonna use this Pj mainly for the Movie room, Im really looking to get the Viewsonic 5351, atleast Nvidia has it as compatible, anyone grab this PJ yet? Im getting it for the short distance it needs for a big picture. Gonna be using these at a show this spring and hoping the nvisor will work with no prob.

Chibi, you should just settle and grab one, I see u on here killin for a good answer and I think everyone is gonna have differant issues and reviews, always happens, everyone won't have the same outcome because you always set it up for your liking.

Now on these glasses, which I don't own! I see people have to put these on upside down? Can the lens be floped out, swaped? If the signal is reversed then reverse the lens, No? Like I said I don't own so I can't try it but I think im gonna rob my grandma and buy them!!! LOL

Anyways I got my hands on some Pro ana X anaglyph and thats what Im gonna be using untill I pull the trigger on the visors... More to come..\\Ku
Congrats! i know you will like it. For 3D Gaming, there really isn't much difference between mine and the HD66. The max resolution for both in 3D is 720P. Hopefully Nvidia will have their drivers fixed by the time you get it!

Yeah I do alot of movies too, We have a big blue ray selection, My last PJ chit the bed, and I've always been buying somewhat used ones off ebay so this time the WIFE gave the ok to buy new so I was doing some home work, we also are trying to setup something up at our local fair this year and I want to setup some 3d gaming for the kids.. I had a setup for 2 Vr pods last fall which was a big hit but I did notice that they had hard time aiming with the head so Im gonna try going BIG like an 8x10 screens using the viewsonic 5351, that has a very good short throw distance which is needed..

Also guys im sure you follow up on MTBS3d but if you haven't check out 3Dflightsim.. He knows alot and get back intouch with you real quick, he also has a good topic about the "Parallax Inversion" it happens pretty much to everyone that owns a DLP projector and if the drivers aren't working like for the most of you, he offers a converter that helps this issue BUT it only works with a 3 pin miniDin which usally come with those eDimensional wireless 3D glasses. So that doesn't help with people that have Nvisons, and im not to sure those can be interchangable, Im gonna check into that some more.

Anyways if you wanted to read up on his topic here is the site.. http://3dflightsim.com/solution.htm

I myself don't really care what kind of glasses I get, I just want the setup to work good and not have all these issues because of drivers the company isn't putting out or what product they aren't supporting. To me if it says 3D then we should get to see 3D and not wear glasses upside down when they cost $200, I do own the old vesa elsa glasses and a pair of eD but they are wired, also you may want to check on the glasses he has to offer seeing the package comes with 2 to 4 sets. So your option are out there if stuck in a corner... Take care

More to come!!

Ok we can scrap the part of trying a converter, It seems this only works with nvidias old school drivers, so seeing nvidia made thier new drivers for thier stuff, it wont work. Also using those old school drviers would mean using a 7series or lower video card.. I don't think anyone is using those on here. Sorry if I miss led anyone..
Im waiting inpatiently for my HD66 and I think im gonna plunk donw the $200 and grab a Nvision..

Hello everyone,

I bought optoma Hd66 recently. I was aware that driver CD v1.19 does not work with this so I installed v1.15 (both Geforce driver as well as 3D vision driver). I ran the nvidia 3D setup and choose it as a generic CRT display but I was seeing lot of flicker and no 3D using the glasses. Could you please tell me what exactly you guys did to get the 3D working?

DO we need to connect the VESA 3 pin cable to the projector? I did connect that and have even tried to check without it.

I did enable the 3D feature in the projector display setup.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me with the setup process.

EDIT: I got it working now. I forgot to switch the projector to 1280x720 resolution at 120HZ. I got it working as a "generic CRT". "Generic DLP" does not work, it gives the error something like "VESA cable not connected or 3D turned of on the TV". It looks like everybody is getting this error. I hope this projector this projector will get official support from NVIDIA soon otherwise I am going to return it.

Thanks
Arun

Hey Arun
Congrats on your purchase
Glad to hear you got 3D working
You should try the Bolt trailer, very nice 3D
I've got the HD (720) Coraline movie, it looks just as good as the Bolt trailer
Driver support should be here soon
There will be a lot of new products on the market this year
Waiting for driver support will likely be common

Hi Hawkman,

I am downloading the bolt 3D trailer now. Lets see how good it is...

From where did you get Coraline in HD 3D?

Nvidia has released new drivers (WHQL certified) on Jan 19 for graphics card. Has anybody tried those?

We are stuck with old drivers (CD v1.15) due to messed up detection code. I hope there is a workaround which can avoid this detection problem. Also I have to use nvidia 3D glasses upside down in games. Is there a fix for that?

Overall Optoma HD66 looks good so far.

The videoplayer has the option to reverse the glasses so they don't have to be upside down while watching a movie or video file

They do for playing games I don't know of a work around for this, looks like will have to wait for driver

I have not got a chance to try out the new driver waiting for full CD to be released

Most of the 3D movies I get come from 3D Underground Movies he has a huge selection of Field Sequential movies, You can get the HD versions in 720p or 1080p. Watching these on the HD66
you really get that theater feeling (blows my sammy away)

Optoma is launching some new 3D ready projectors this may be why we are waiting on driver support (I Hope) The 3D market is going to open up this year, new shutter glasses, 3D ready
projectors, HDTV's, console gaming in 3D, Nvidia will have to work overtime to keep up

I built one of these: http://www.int03.co.uk/crema/hardware/stereo/. It works for fixing the reversed-eye problem. Basically I have the projector hooked up with both VGA and HDMI with HDMI as primary clone, I'm watching over HDMI but I'm using VGA for the sync signal.

Only a couple quirks. First, the sync signal doesn't know left from right, it's just a constant toggle. All this means is when you start up 3d you have a 50% chance for the eyes to be reversed but all you have to do is toggle it on and off until it's right or flip the switch on the circuit.

The second quirk is the VGA and HDMI seem to sync up differently every time you re-initialize the displays, so sometimes the sync will be off slightly when you turn on the projector or switch from a different HDMI input. Usually I just have to go into the control panel and toggle on and off clone mode a few times and check for ghosting in game. The good news is, when you get them synced correctly this 100% eliminates ghosting. When I tried just using VGA the sync would be constant but it was off slightly so ghosting was actually worse than with no sync signal and the glasses upside-down. I can't guarantee your setup will work the same way, unfortunately. You could always add something like THIS so you can manually adjust but I didn't try that.

So now I'm enjoying the glasses right-side-up with absolutely no ghosting and am pretty happy. It just takes a little fiddling once in a while but once you get it right you won't have to mess with it again until you change resolutions or mess with the display setup somehow.

If you guys want to try it out do put a Schmitt Trigger between the resistor and the IC input (I used CD40106BCN), before I did this the sync would reverse every once in a while because of the pulse nature of a vsync signal. The Schmitt smooths this out though and it's been working perfectly ever since. If you use an inverting trigger like that one just put the signal through twice.

All in all I'm now much happier with the 3d experience, not bad for about $30. It is stupid that nvidia doesn't just let us adjust these things in the drivers though because it would certainly be simple.

That is cool, but definitely not a viable solution for an artist like me. I'd mess up something and probably blow up the house. :)

I saw the Bolt 3D trailer on Optoma HD 66. It was great. Good quality movie with no ghosting. Thanks for suggesting.

It looks like that underground3dmovie website is going to be shut down soon. Loot at the following link for details.

Thanks neutronium for the suggestion about the glasses but its complicated to do it on your own. I am afraid that I might mess up something.

I hope that nvidia will release a driver soon which support optoma Hd66 along with all other 3D ready displays which are having detection issues.

This is sad news, Dann did a great job with these movies. There is another guy that does the Field Sequential movies I believe his site is
called 3D Geek he has a number of movies tho not seen any HD.

I personally have not bought from him so can't recomend his work I think he uses the same convertion process as Dann(3D Underground)
I'll have to try some of his work

3D blu-ray will be great but it will be a while before we see the fruits of that labor, Only 4 or so to be expected this year at least it a start.

Thanks arun for the info

The very questions I've been asking for months with no answer. :) I'm beginning to think the Acer will not ship in the U.S. It's possible that it is a HDMI 1.3 display and Acer knows that when 3D rolls out here in the U.S., HDMI 1.4 is supposedly the new standard and Sony has gone on record saying they will offer 3D capability starting with displays that have HDMI 1.4. Sony seems to be the biggest driver of 3D with the PS3 again leading the way with a free update, Blu-Ray, and their own movie studio support. So, if Sony says "Only HDMI 1.4 will have 3D" then that is very likely to how it's going to be. I don't think anyone knows if the Optoma HD66 and Acer H5360 is HDMI 1.3 or 1.4, but I'd guess they are 1.3.

The PS3 is getting an upgrade, This will allow playback of the new 3D Blu-ray format

This upgrade comes in way of a firmware which means no hardware to upgrade

Im not sure what the Acer H5360 or Optoma HD66 are (1.3-1.4) Hopefully these will be compatable.

I dont want to have to start buying products listed as 3D Blu-ray Ready

There are a lot of 3D Ready projectors out there and if these dont work with 3d Blu-ray alot of people are going to be peed off (including me)

I dont want to have to start buying products listed as 3D Blu-ray Ready

There are a lot of 3D Ready projectors out there and if these dont work with 3d Blu-ray alot of people are going to be peed off (including me)

Hi guys

Just wanted to let you know, the Optoma HD65 works fine at 720p 85hz 100hz and 120hz , I got one,you just need to setup the custom res properly via nvidia panel.

but unfortunately i havent managed to make it work in 3D, I have installed the 1.15 cd and setup it as CRT, the image just Stutters like hell and no 3d, in the setup process it changes the refresh to 85hz but once its finished i can test it at 120hz,still no 3d just tons of Stuttering whenever it goes to 3d....

my samsung works fine.

any ideas?

PD: the projector Info confirms the refresh rates at those values.
