Crysis 2 in 3D - March 22 - Excited? I wonder if NVIDIA made a profile already?
  1 / 3
As you all know Crysis 2 was designed to deliver a solid stereo 3D experience. My question is if a profile is in the works for it already or?

Anyone else excited about this? This should get a lot of sales for NVIDIA 3D Vision I would think.

As i said earlier : from what i understanding Crysis 2 dont support 3DVision of Nvidia , but new technology (SSRS or somthing)..
We need andrewf@nvidia that will clarify us the all issue with Crysis 3D.

Crysis 2 will work with 3D Vision. As you have also pointed out, Crytek is using their own 3D technique to render it.

You will be able to play the game in 3D with 3D Vision when it launches.

Let us know what you think when its out.

When we play the game, do we use the game's renderer, 3D Vision/3DTV Play renderer, or we can use either one? If we use 3D Vision renderer, how do we get the nvidia 3D profile on the day the game goes on sale? Download? something else?

Roller, there's almost a month til the game is out, so let's wait. I think there will be some GFX driver updates for the next 3 weeks and a Crysis 2 profile should be released. If by March 20th there's no word about a Crysis 2 3D Vision profile, them we can start a thread here about it.

Crysis 2 uses it's internal renderer to produce the full stereo image, then hands the picture over to the 3D vision driver only to send it to the display. (and the game will also support other types of 3D displays directly without having t use a special driver). IT works just like how Avatar : the game did last year

In an interview to mtbs3d this summer, a Crytek developer said the Cry-engine 3 offers both Screen-Space Reprojection for fast rendering with minimal performance loss, as well as the usual full dual-camera rendering (which halves the framerate as usual).
They said all console versions use screen-space reprojection due to the performance limitations of consoles, but that both options were available on PC.
The one thing we do not know yet is whether or not they'll let us choose which technique to use in the game or if they'll just set it themselves.

Anyway, whatever their choice is, Andrew cannot influence what Crytek does, you probably won't have this answer from him. You should ask this question directly to Crytek.

It would be good to get an official answer on whether 3Dvision users will be able to use both 3D system, to choose either real stereoscopic 3D or the CryEngine3 "Screen Space Re-projection" system (2D + depth), take a look here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-tech-analysis-crysis-2-demo?page=3

I realise that they could not do true stereoscopic 3D on the consoles because of GPU power limitations, but I really hope they give PC users the option to use 3Dvision instead of SSRP. Crytek talk about "getting 3D for free" but nothing in life is free...

I think the "doorway effect" (as one example) is really important in FPS gaming, and I would be willing to take the performance hit to keep it. In HalfLife2 for example, just pick up a large object with the gravity-gun and walk through a doorway with it, you can see how powerfull the true stereoscopic effect is.

But with all the problems Crysis 1 has with stereoscopic 3D I really don't see nvidia making the effort to add good 3Dvision support when they can just use Crytek's system instead. Given that the Crysis 2 PC demo is out in a few hours it would have been nice if nvidia could have got working SLI and 3Dvision profiles out in time... /sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

This thread makes me sad. I'm going to miss out on a weeks worth of the demo while my rig is still down. Guess it'll be screen shots that keep me going so post some in the screen shots thread guys.

Isn't this demo the Beta version that has been out or leacked since last week? I haven't tried cause it doesn't work with 3D and I want to have great expectations about Crysis 2, I loved the 1st one, so I don't want to try out a bugged, non 3D, beta game. but if this demo version is a new one that will support 3D, than I'll try, as it's only a demo, not a beta leacked version??? Is that correct? When and where crysis 2 demo will be out??

It's out now: http://static.cdn.ea.com/crytek/u/f/crysis2/Crysis_2_Multiplayer_Demo.exe

It's the official multiplayer demo: http://www.ea.com/crysis-2/1/demo

Thats why it's so surprising Nvidia haven't got their act togother and realsed a beta driver with working SLI and 3Dvision profiles.

FYI - I heard that 3Dvision does actually work with the leak, but you have to manually set the convergance and there are bad ghosting problems...

Just tested the demo, it seems to be hard-wired to "driver" mode. I'm pretty sure it's using SSRP, it looks ok but you can tell it's not normal stereoscopic 3D. There are a few bugs, like the nano-suit menu doesn't appear properly in 3D mode, anyone else get this problem? I've tried 266.77 and patched Quadro 267.05 drivers, lets hope we get a new beta driver soon...

You will be able to play the game in 3D with 3D Vision when it launches.

Andrew,
Does this mean we won't see another 3D Vision release until March 29 or so?
On Jan.20, you promised you would add checkerboard mode to 3D Vision drivers. Recently, you said this was a bug, CB should never have been removed. Here it is well over a month later and still no checkerboard fix. Are you saying that the fix will coincide with the release of Crysis2? If so, that means over two months to fix the no checkerboard bug. If checkerboard is available now, release it now instead of an artificial one month delay. We can't play games in 3D until this bug is fixed.
Fix delayed is a fix denied.

FYI - there is an SLI profile for Crysis2.exe in the Quadro 267.05 drivers that works great with the multiplayer demo,

I just used Inspector to add Crysis2Demo.exe and my FPS doubled, no back flashing bugs either... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
