This is not true. There are 3rd party glasses that are specifically designed to work with Nvidia 3D vision and are half the cost. I cant comment on the optical quality of the glasses but they are out there. Im actually planning on ordering a pair since they are half the price. There is nothing complicated about the emitter signal that is beamed to the glasses. Its very simple signal and has been decoded a long time ago and now 3rd party Mfgs. have compatible glasses out.

Are you referring to the 3D Adventurer kit? If you order them, let me know how good they turn out. I already own a pair of legit nVidia glasses but it'd be nice to pick up extra pairs for a cheaper cost.

Check these out...they are 2 for $165 and Nvidia 3D glasses are normally $125 or more for just one pair. Check the compatability list on their page to make sure it'll work with your setup. Mine is fine, I got an Acer H5360, 1 pair of Nvidia 3D vision glasses/w emmiter, and 2 pairs of DLP Link glasses I got for $105 for 2 pairs, and I'm thinking about getting these.

I wonder how good those are. They look very similar to Nvidia's glasses, with the arm ends of the glasses that go over your ears looking slightly curved unlike Nvidia's. The seller only has a 30 day warranty for them, which kinda stinks. I sent a message to an ebay buyer that purchased them, asking for his impressions. It would be great if these were made by the same manufacturer that Nvidia uses for theirs, because the quality should then be the same, but with a lower price because Nvidia's name is not stamped on them.

I found these generic 3D Vision compatible glasses in a French store Surcouf :
http://www.surcouf.com/tv-video-films/produit/surcouf/9683511/lunettes-3d-supplementaires.html

They look like exact 3D vision glasses clones, and they claim compatibility with the 3D vision emitter except they're 50€ a pop.
Surcouf is quite a famous French computer pieces distributor, I doubt they'd sell a fake.

EDIT : after reading user's comments,
It seems these glasses require to use a special compatibility IR mode, and even then some people make the work perfectly and others have sync issues.

after some more research it appears that for those of us with DLP displays can use DLP Link glasses simultaneously with the 3D Vision glasses.

The DLP Link glasses are much cheaper, around $60.

The DLP Link glasses will sync directly with the TV screen, without relying on the IR emitter, while the 3D Vision glasses will sync to the IR emitter.

Interesting comparison: IR emitter VS DLP link

I bought some of those Ebay DLP Link glasses that look like Nvidia copies. One reseller has the blue colored frame and calls them "Ultra Clears", but they're BS, IMO. I paid something like $150 for two pairs so my wife (and guests - I was going to buy more of them) can watch the 3D movies along with me (as I use the 3D Vision). But, like you said, the DLP Links work with the 3D Vision glasses, however, you must (or I must) put the Optoma projector in DLP Link mode. Ok... long story short and why I said they're BS. I finally broke down and bought one of those Avatar 3D movies off Ebay. I was testing the glasses (Nvidia and DLP Link). The 3D was so-so, kind of washed out, but that was expected with the DLP Link - because of the signal on the screen. Anyhow, it's been a long time since I had the projector set to the Nvidia 3D Vision mode and man, I must say I was literally blown away by how much better (clearer, darker, sharper, more colors) the 3D Vision setting was over the DLP Link projector setting. I actually apologized to my wife shortly after because she's never seen our 3D movies in this mode (and quite frankly, neither had I).

That would be nice if those emitter-sync/Nvidia compatible glasses on Ebay worked in Nvidia 3D Vision mode. Perhaps I should have bought those instead of the DLP Links. Oh well. I'm not sure how DLP Link is on a 3D TV, but when viewed via a projector, there's no comparison; Nvidia looks far better. Here's my review of both glasses - Click Here

Edit -

I went ahead and purchased the Nvidia compatible glasses from the Ebay seller. I've had good experience with them before, so I should have them ready to try by this weekend or sooner. When I read this comment on their Ebay ad: "THEY WORK WITH 3D READY DLP PROJECTORS IN NVIDIA MODE WITH NVIDIA EMITTER, BUT NOT WITH NVIDIA 3D LAPTOPS OR WITH NVIDIA 3D DESKTOP 120 HZ LCD MONITORS!!" I was sold. This confirms to me that they will work in Nvidia Mode on the projector and I won't have to use the DLP Link :)

That's the seller I bought my DLP Link glasses from. They're really good and fast shippers, too. I had mine in 2 days from time of purchase.

I am eager to see how well they work compared to the Nvidia brand 3D glasses. The price is perfect and if they work just like the Nvidia ones, I'm sold for a few pairs.

Can't wait for your short review! :)
