Windows 10 requires a one-time security override (via Windows 10 boot options) to enable the EDID override to override Generic Monitor driver provided by NVIDIA's GPU driver (via Device Manager). This EDID mod works great with Windows 10 and 980 Ti SLI in my setup. My 5.1 surround does not use HDMI, but uses sound card/SPDIF optical output, so it is completely decoupled from display.

Got a VIVE on the way, there's already quite a few apps for it (and an unofficial "plugin" to play Rift games), however this a completely different segment than regular 3D gaming. Windows 10 is quite a bit ahead of Windows 7 in everything, including minor stuff like file management, network sharing, usability, navigation, bla bla bla that Windows 7 feels like a minor extension of Windows XP. The fact that you need a now archaic operating system just to run 3d fixes shows just how stagnant 3d vision is. Maybe you didnt see my sig, but I do have a 3DTV. A 4k one, at 65 inches. Do you know how much I thoroughly enjoyed 3d gaming back in the day? From IZ3D to this one. I recently played Thief again in 3D, and I honestly believe 2D 4k was a MUCH BETTER experience. The 1080p limitations got on my nerves, the lack of official support (and relying too much on unofficial fixes) made transitioning to 4k gaming much more easier. Though you obviously need the horsepower to do it, that's why I own not one, but TWO GTX 1080's. Sorry, but I played GTAV, Dying light, Assassin's Creed, The Division, and recently Doom all in 4k glory and it looked so much better to me (and ran liquid smooth 60+ fps)than the few of these games that did run in 1080p 3D. Let's be honest here, the only "3D gaming" that's thriving is the blossoming VR industry. Everything else including 3d vision is just a niche of a niche of a niche.

Exposed123 - again, before making ANY type of inappropriate comparison, you really need to make the EDID mod work on your system, not just fiddle with it... Note that I have Vive, Rift, and have Sony VR backordered, so I have good understanding of current HMD technologies. They are good, but 3D Vision still excels in extended third person experiences, especially with interleaved 4K 3D. True, the EDID mod is a 3D Vision community solution, rather than an official NVIDIA product, but this uniquely talented 3D Vision community has kept 3D Vision very much alive...

Fixes working fine on Win 10 here. Haven't used my Win 7 partition for several months. Also what 1080p limitation? There are 1440p 3D monitors and obviously 4k 3D TVs.

I just don't understand if the user is so happy with 4K 2D why post here the solutions for the above are solved with an EDID override and Helix blogs patches. If he going to pick one or two problems out of hundreds of patches he is just trolling.

I've seen 4K in gaming, but haven't used it for any length of time. For me at least, higher resolution is just the latest marketing gimmick, and doesn't materially change the game for me. Unlike 3D, where I still laugh out loud at how awesome it looks. My 120" full 3D projector scoffs at your piddly 65" 4K TV. :-> (Low resolution at distance is the same as high resolution up close. Insert obligatory Carlton-Bale graph). And... It is spring-like, so it must still be time for a our traditional "3D is dead" discussion. Can it be a hassle? Most definitely. If you value simplicity and "just works" you are much better off with a console.

VR gets all the attention today, but 3D gaming is still a better experience for a lot of games. Here is an interesting open letter from KrillBite, as to why they dropped VR support for their game among the Sleep. http://www.krillbite.com/2015/09/21/we-are-stopping-vr-development-here-is-why-2/ The reason I post this here, is because 4everawake made a 3D fix for this game, and so it's actually a better experience in 3D than it is in VR. Even when they tried seriously hard to make it work. This suggests what several of us have observed, which is that VR and 3D are similar, but provide different experiences. I don't currently see VR putting 3D to death.

@Exposed123: Fellow human, You don't like our fixes? - Don't use them! You find it a big "hassle" ? - Don't use them! Finding copy/pasting hard or following a couple of steps to hard? - Move on! Having issues following a couple of SIMPLE steps - Either give up or develop a bit of skill related to Computers. You can't do that? Trow your PC in the bin and grab a console (like the rest of the "average" gamers/ user who only know how to use Facebook/Chrome/Word on a PC). You don't have any attraction to PC usage/gaming? - GIVE UP and buy a console! IN THE END of the day, we couldn't care LESS if you are using our fixes to play in 3D Vision or not, but at least show A BIT OF RESPECT (10 users, a "tiny handful of games" - This shows that you didn't even do your "homework", but you come here spitting your bile all over the place.) Go to your 4k/8k/12k resolution and enjoy the AWESOME 2D FLAT image with LOTS of pixels, if that is what you wish! (And don't kid yourself with VR currently... is A FLOP and will become a FLOP even bigger than 3D gaming was when it was released! People don't want to see it/believe it...but all the "available" stuff of Vive/Oculus is just laughable, to say the least). Please, DO TRY VORPX and see how shietty that program is and then come back and compare it with our fixes and 3D Vision. Maybe then, you will understand and you will not be so eager to judge things on first appearances... (Everyone knows everything these days apparently... ) (Is this age - people want everything for GRANTED and without any input from them. Sad to see such a big "mind/intellect degradation" - But this is what it is, weather we like it or not.)

For me at least, higher resolution is just the latest marketing gimmick
For me, the only marketing gimmick in PC gaming is "dynamic" contrast ratio (and well, response times are a lie, but you can estimate the real response times). High resolution, G-Sync/Freesync, ULMB/Lightboost, 3D, PhysX, VR (I haven't tried it)... are great things for me. Probably more accurate to say it's diminishing returns. The jump from 1440p for example to 4K is not even visible, depending upon where you sit. Even if you can make out the improved resolution, you pay a punishing performance penalty for it. Reminds me of the shift to DX11. Seems like a bad payoff to me. Incremental improvement in some looks, but nearly indistinguishable from DX9, but having to pay a big penalty in complexity. Switching a game to Unity 5. Yay. Can I even tell the difference? But you know- another chance to sell the same game. It's not like 3D itself though that actually changes how I play and how much I enjoy it. 3D is not incremental it's a shift. Same with VR. It's so different that it's not really comparable to just increasing the resolution.
If you cannot see the extra detail that 4k offers, compared to even 1440p, then your setup is wrong. A 65" is large enough, and at a close enough distance, to see intricate 4k details. I will give a specific example: gwent cards in Witcher 3. In 4k, you can see the intricate background details of each gwent card when playing. Details that I didnt even know existed until upgrading to 4k, because it was pixelated at 1080p and fuzzy at 1440p. So yes, please compare your 120" projector to my 65" 4k...I guarantee you which one will have the more obvious detail.
Can it be a hassle? Most definitely. If you value simplicity and "just works" you are much better off with a console.
Or maybe you should stop making 3D fixes because of people like me complaining? It's statements like this is why I got turned off from this forums after asking simple questions. Sorry, just because your fixes requires old drivers, Windows 7, file edits, etc.. etc.. doesn't mean users who consider this a hassle should be console gamers. Matter of fact, if you can't migrate to the modern era with Windows 10, DX12, etc... why even bother? I game at 4k on Windows 10 with modern hardware because THAT'S what PC gaming calls for.

No idea why your happy VR is here though if your current problem is pixels. Your in for a world of hurt when you get one. No idea why someone would be some adamant of the word "niche" when he only cares about 4k gaming. Thats like maybe a 1% of pc gamers. http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey The statistic of 4k gamers is so low its filed under other.
