I have a couple questions about 3DTV play and the Samsung PN51D550:
1. Does 3DTV play current work with this television or will it be supported in an upcoming driver?
2. To use the 3DTV Play, only the software purchase is necessary, I don't need to buy a 3d vision kit to use 3DTV Play - and it uses television's 3d glass, right?

This screen won't do what roller11 is suggesting. It doesn't support checkerboard.
It should work with 3DTV Play at some point but I suggest you might want to get a different screen.
Indeed, on samsung's 2011 product line up, checkerboard, frame sequential, vertical stripe, line by line modes are available only on LED D7000 and above. On sub D7000, only side by side and top bottom are available. Nvidia does not offer side by side, top bottom modes. As of 2011, only certain selected Samsung models support native resolution, full framerate 3D gaming, this is a big step backwards for Samsung.

Great thanks for the information. Guess I'll keep looking around then.

You're still another victim of nvidia's refusal to support side by side mode. I predict that Samsung will eliminate Checkerboard on all their HDTVs next year, forcing us to abandon 3DTV Play altogether and go with TriDef 3D and/or iZ3D. You'd think that by now, Nvidia would have figured out that supporting SBS, the Universal standard for 3D is a good idea, guess not. Instead, Nvidia decides to support the absolute worst mode, Framepacking, and not support the highly desireable native resolution modes, checkerboard and side by side.
