Its been a while since I've dropped in but I'm in the process of upgrading to a new projector and need some help (hopefully andrewf will come to the rescue)--I hope to have the projector by 11-11-11 ^_^
The H9500BD has a DVI-I port (capable of accepting a Dual link cable), and has a native resolution of 1920x1080 and supports refresh rates of 120hz (officially only at 720p). Until now most projectors only had HDMI or VGA ports, limiting the 1080p refresh rate to 60hz, but a dual link dvi port bypasses this limitation.
[b]I'm asking/hoping/wondering if anyone can test the H9500BD projector using a dual link dvi cable (make sure its dual link!!) and see if you can force 1920x1080 @ 120hz through the nvidia control panel using a custom resolution.[/b]
I know if I ask through official channels the answer will be "1080p at 120hz is not supported", but I'm hoping that its gonna be like how the H5360 "does not support" 720p @100hz when in fact it worked fine with it but it was just that the manual and EDID didn't specifically state that it was supported.

VGA can do 1080p (and higher) at 120Hz as well, that has never been the limit. Also 100 Hz on the H5360 will just display at 120Hz, no matter what it says.

@Xerion404 thanks for responding, are you referring to VGA input on CRT monitors? As far as I'm aware the VGA input on new projectors is still bound by the limitations of the HDMI's bandwidth/pixel clock.
But I have to disagree with you on the H5360 info, I even took it out of storage just to check if I was wrong. I created a custom resolution of 1280x720, set the refresh rate to 100hz and tested it. Sure enough it worked -- Acer's OSD even confirmed it was running at the desired horizontal and vertical frequency.
Edit: Theres a little trick to getting it working-- if you make the custom resolution and apply it normally it will indeed just run at 120hz-- uve to scroll down to the bottom of the listed resolutions (to the PC resolutions I think) and set it to 100hz, and itll step down from 120hz
It was even confirmed here on these forums by andrewf that although the refresh rate was not technically supported, that it did work.

It's using the DLP 0.65 "DarkChip 2, isn't this a 720P chip with 1080P achieved via wobulation? I'm not sure, but if a projector has an optical actuator in the light path, then it is wobulated using sub-frames. The problem is that since it's not HDMI 1.4 (which doesn't support 1080p 60hz anyway), it will require Nvidia to add it to it's drivers because otherwise it won't even recognize through DVI input. Somebody should talk to Andrew.

A whole bunch of french sites are talking about it but nowhere else. Wierd... Anywho states it can do 120hz 1080p here and some other french sites. However it will not work without nvidia updating driver. There are 0 1080p 120 hz drivers so cant fake an edid or anything.(projectors)

At the moment I'd be happy for 2d @ 120hz. For 3d I was planning on nabbing somebodies .inf for their 3d monitor that supports 1080p120 to trick the nvidia control panel into thinking my display is fully 3d capable. At the moment the H9500BD only supports 3dTV play which I think is HDMI port only.

@TimShadler Good to know, I was afraid I had unintentionally got you to buy a dud. If things dont work right away try using the PC resolutions (I think they are listed at the bottom of the resolution list in the nvidia control panel). The H9500BD has a lot of menu items (namely Frequency and tracking-- check em out in the manual) that might be helpful that are locked to PC mode only. Failing that you could always take a page out of Xerion404's book and use the "VGA IN 2" port which will force PC mode to activate, allowing you to force the projector to synchronize to the PC's 120hz signal..of course you'll have to use a VGA cable. I'm not sure it'll work but its nice to have a backup plan.
@eqzitara I've been trawling those sites too, I think its because france is getting it first---- the acer.fr site has one of the most up to date projector sections and even lists the other model the H9500.
I'm hoping the .inf switch is enough to trick the nvidia control panel as its worked before for the H5360 and H5360BD.

Hopefully one of those devices will allow me to manually upload EDID files to it (if a super helpful nvidia forums user would record their EDID and send it on). Then nvidia would 100% think its got a 120hz 3d vision lcd monitor connected and away we go.

Yes that what I meant. Why do you think I'm posting in THE 3D VISION FORUM. Because of the Acer 3D capability, not what it can do in 2D through it's DVI. It won't be recognized as a 3D display by the Nvidia drivers. Which means you won't be playing 3D through the DVI input without official support from Nvidia. Can't get much more clear on this. If you feel up to the task then please mess around with the EDID, but this is the first Dual LInk DVI projector and I'm not sure you can fake an EDID from a monitor to a projector? Send Andrew a PM, or email and he "may look into it". If this gets official support I would be over the moon.

I thought I may have overlooked something re: DVI-DL compatibility and 3D and the signal would not even be recognized on the projector as the DVI input is at the projector end of the setup, not the pc. But yeah its fine if its just the control panel that doesn't recognize it as a 3d vision device.
The german stereoscopic forums have already had someone testing out the H5360 inf on the H9500BD, and since he hasnt responded to the thread for a few days I'm assuming its most likely been a success otherwise he'd have come back saying "didnt work, what did I do wrong". *fingers crossed* I've contacted him anyway.
I may have been overthinking things, I'll just edit the H5360's inf file with notepad and change the max resolution to 1920x1080 and a few other things, hopefully thatll fix it assuming Nvidia only checks whether the PJ model is supported for 3d vision or 3dtv play, and doesn't specify which 3d modes it can do (for 3d vision at least)

The H9500BD has a lot of menu items (namely Frequency and tracking-- check em out in the manual) that might be helpful that are locked to PC mode only. Failing that you could always take a page out of Xerion404's book and use the "VGA IN 2" port which will force PC mode to activate, allowing you to force the projector to synchronize to the PC's 120hz signal..of course you'll have to use a VGA cable. I'm not sure it'll work but its nice to have a backup plan.
@eqzitara I've been trawling those sites too, I think its because france is getting it first---- the acer.fr site has one of the most up to date projector sections and even lists the other model the H9500.
I'm hoping the .inf switch is enough to trick the nvidia control panel as its worked before for the H5360 and H5360BD.

Hopefully one of those devices will allow me to manually upload EDID files to it (if a super helpful nvidia forums user would record their EDID and send it on). Then nvidia would 100% think its got a 120hz 3d vision lcd monitor connected and away we go.
@D-Man11 You raise an interesting point but from what I understand wobulation(what a word) is used on devices with lower native resolutions to achieve 1080p. The H9500BD has a native resolution of 1920x1080 so wobulation is not used. For example devices 2+ years ago with the Darkchip 2 would go about claiming to be 1080p capable using this technique.
@Conan48 I'm not sure what you mean by "it won't even recognize through DVI input". If you mean it won't be recognised as a 3d capable display then yep thats true. Im hoping that the DVI dual link port isnt bound by HDMI 1.4's restrictions (and that was all about bandwidth issues--dvi dual link will just be sending 2 simultaneous signals each within HDMI's bandwidth limitation) Otherwise why in the name of god would Acer put a dual link dvi port on a projector when a single link would have sufficed.
It'd definitely take an Nvidia driver to get full 1080p120(60) 3d officially working, but I'm hoping this is gonna be like the H5360BD which didn't support 3d vision, but replacing the .inf file with the H5360 version made nvidia accept it as a 3d Vision Ready device.

If things dont work right away try using the PC resolutions (I think they are listed at the bottom of the resolution list in the nvidia control panel). The german stereoscopic forums have already had someone testing out the H5360 inf on the H9500BD, and since he hasnt responded to the thread for a few days I'm assuming its most likely been a success otherwise he'd have come back saying "didnt work, what did I do wrong". *fingers crossed* I've contacted him anyway.
I may have been overthinking things, I'll just edit the H5360's inf file with notepad and change the max resolution to 1920x1080 and a few other things, hopefully thatll fix it assuming Nvidia only checks whether the PJ model is supported for 3d vision or 3dtv play, and doesn't specify which 3d modes it can do (for 3d vision at least)
I'll send andrewf a PM/email later on.

Andrew says the dvi port isn't capable of 1920x1080@120hz. I did ask in a follow up if he actually tested this himself but got told
"This projector will not support 1920x1080 at 120hz. It simply cannot do it."
Make of that what you will, maybe the DVI-Dual link input is still bound by the limitations of the HDMI 1.4 interface. I'm not going to push him on the specifics as I already feel like I'm pestering him.
Im still going to hold out a tiny bit of hope that the reason he side-stepped my question of whether he actually tested the 1920x1080@120hz resolution means the test hasn't been performed. Probably a fools hope but damn I want a 1080p 120hz projector
