I need your advices please. I'd like to play at least at 30fps in 4k all maxed out sure^^, more fps would be nice but in 3d vision i think 30fps in already great and i mean with max settings at 4k!
I have a GTX 1080 for now and it's not enought to play at 4k ultra, 2k it's good in mostly games, but some like Metro Exodus i got poor fps even in 2k..
So i am thinking to upgrade my setting and i was wondering what's best between adding another GTX 1080 for a SLI setup or buying a new RTX 2080 ? i find the 2080 really expensive and i'm not sure i'll get a lot of more fps..
What do you think folks ? if you have other solutions, advices, things to optimised?

I'm sitting on RTX 2080 right now so if you provide some performance numbers. I would prefer benchmarks as they are easier to reproduce I would be happy to provide you with the performance of my machine.

Then i have an old 3d monitor, Asus VG278H which don't have Displayport input.. si i'm afraid with this monitor i cannot upgrade to new RTX cards :/
Why not just play not ultra? There’s normally a few settings in most games that are just intensive?

I can say that even 4k@60FPS is even doable (in 3D) with enough horsepower. Back when I was playing FFXIV, I tried using DSR to render @ 4K and was blown away, but was only getting ~30FPS on my one 1080Ti, so I went ahead and got a 2nd card to SLI and was achieving 60FPS most of the time.
So yeah, if you got a 2nd 1080, then you could probably easily achieve 4k@30 FPS easily in most games. Can't say for certain you'll hit it in the latest and greatest games (like Metro Exodus) with max settings, but I wouldn't think it would be out of the realm of possibility either.

I use it with my 11,5 year old computer instead which has a GTX 980.
Considering how demanding 2D 4K gaming can be in recent games it seems foolish to attempt to run 4K 3D in most games. I you have have 4K passive like me you loose 50% of the rendered pixels at once. Upscaling 1080p to 4K in 3Dmigoto gives a decent 1080p60 alternative when it works well.
If you use 3DTV Play 720p is pretty low res but you can run at high settings at pretty much 60fps.
DSR is out of the question as far as I know. None of the generated pixels are thrown away in the black scanlines.

4K 3D Vision is a tall order, currently an RTX 2080 Ti is only capable of 60 FPS in a few titles newer titles with a lot of compromises (2D). Sure, you could run older titles, i.e. before 2015 in 4k 3D but some of the older games, although very fun, look dated once you've experienced a modern title. I never played AC3 and was curious as to how the remastered version looked as I'm contemplating picking up AC: Odyssey while it's on sale and after watching that review I had exactly zero interest in playing it. It just looks way too dated to hold my interest. I'm currently going through Dragon Age: Inquisition from 2014 in 3D Vision and my single 1080 Ti FE is able to run that game at 60 FPS 3D Vision @ 2560x1440, which would be about 30 FPS in 4K, so I would say that yeah, upgrading to a single 2080 which is more or less as fast as a 1080 Ti (if not a little faster with newer drivers, NGreedia euphemistically calls gimping the outgoing architecture "focusing on the new architecture") would allow you to play older games in 4K 30 FPS 3D Vision but I would have to say that a 2080 would seriously struggle with anything newer. Take Watch Dogs 2, Middle Earth: Shadow of War and Rise of the Tomb Raider for example, my 1080 Ti can't get 60 FPS in the first 2 in 3D Vision @ 1440p which means that it couldn't do 3D @ 30 FPS in 4K and these are games from 2016-2017.
Then there is the reality that Nvidia is about to remove 3D Vision altogether from the drivers.
You need to consider that.

I would absolutely not SLI anything at this point. Too many games have poor or no support, you will regret it really quickly. And if a game does have support, sometimes the 3D Vision fix doesn't play nice with it, with shaders only appearing in one eye etc.
I would skip Turing completely with 7nm Volta due out next year. Paying $700 for a 2080 now when you will likely have something 2x as fast next year for the same amount is not a wise decision, especially when Nvidia is about to remove 3D Vision from the drivers.
So to sum up, if youre hell bent on 3D Vision, I would just opt for a 1920x1080 3D panel for now as 60 FPS anything is vastly better than a 30 FPS 4K stutter-fest.
I would not SLI anything.

I have a 4k LG oled 3d tv, it is not just the 4k resolution that is great, but the Oled colors and contrast/brightness. There is nothing else that matches this image quality. I have had several 3d displays including a projector and 2 other 3d vision monitors. a 1440 and a 1080 one. however there are downsides, with performance being the obvious, then the price. It is not cheap. Many games are playable on a 1080 ti, I just need to lower setting on many to get an exceptional experience.

Yeah I agree with jhgator.
The 4K on the LG OLED isn't just because its 4k. It's image quality because of the color blows away any other 3D image I've seen, VG287, 2716DG (1440p), and aweful shitty BENQ one.

That helps me, the problem is when you test in 4k, switch back in 1080p or even 2k it's look very aliasing but i realise that i am too hungry with 3d vision.. i'll try to set graphics lower. And you're right about Sli setup i didn't know there was issues with some profiles in 3d and compatibility, so i will regret it.

at some point I will probably have no choice but to go SLI again. but will be closer to the end of this generation.
