Oculus Quest with 3DMigoto SBS 3D or TriDef SBS 3D with Virtual Desktop for the Quest.
Does the Quest support super-sampling? There's a setting for it in Virtual Desktop on the PC. If so increase that. Max out the bit rate for the stream, and make sure your wifi connection can handle it... Otherwise you'll get a lot of compression artifacts. What's the highest it will go in VD? I was capping out around 50-60 Mbps before the wifi chip in the phone would overheat and cause stutters. It also helps to make the virtual screen smaller in size, even virtual pixels scale with screen size. Then pull it closer to your face (as close as you can stand). I usually pull it close enough that I barely get the black edges on the top n bottom, and I have to look from side to side to see the whole screen. Also helps image quality to render the game higher than the stream (1440p, or make a custom 1260p)...
OK I'll try it some more once I have a good router, I was using a 5Ghz windows 10 mobile hotspot

The hotspot is a better option... But you have to have a broadcom chip with an AC1200 2x2 radio (or better), and then enable a hidden feature in an older firmware to let you select the upper 80MHz channels at around 5.8GHz. Most newer firmwares restrict hotspots to the 2.4GHz band. You'll notice this if you're broadcasting on channels 1-11. Asus PCE-AC56 is a good option... See them on sale for $30 every now and then. Would be better to get the antennas out from behind the PC though (or turn it facing sideways). You can also swap out the radio on the motherboard if it's got an M.2 interface. AzureWave AW-CE123H can usually be found cheap. An AC1200 router will do too, just make sure you choose an 80MHz channel that's completely empty. Check on your phone with Wifi Analyzer. Pings from other devices on the channel will cause interference (even your neighbour's printer)

It'll still stream the desktop in the store version, so the virtual 3D monitor will still work... But they are clamping down on people trying to use the Quest as a Rift. Probably because they're worried about people frying the wireless chip, and exploding batteries after the Note 7 fiasco. The dev for Virtual Desktop put a bunch of time into streaming SteamVR, so he's trying to keep it alive with a side-load. We'll see how long that lasts. Would probably be fairly capable if you modded the headset to add a fan and some heat sinks.

I seen a guy stream Skyeim VR to his on youtube and it looked pretty good, less detail to the grass but very playable. I use Tridef SBS with my Rift and virtual desktop or vorpx desktop to play SBS games in VR. My Ouest is on order, I should be able to do the same on that when it comes.

They made the dev remove the SteamVR support from the store app but he still offers it as an addon that can be sideloaded through SideQuest https://github.com/the-expanse/SideQuest/releases or he even has a link to the apk with SteamVR enabled on his FAQ page. You still need to own a copy from the store for the license but it should still work as before this way.
