GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb ram Will this work?
Hey guys, I have a geForce 8800 GTS with 640 mb of ram on it.

According to the automatic compatibility detector thing on the Nvidia website, my videocard will NOT work with the Nvidia 3d. HOWEVER according to the list of videocards that will work, the 8800 GTS is listed as compatible.

So I essentially have 2 questions:

1) Will my video card work?
2) Will my video card drag ass? I figure it probably has to double the image output so if it barely meets the min requirements, will my frame rate be incredibly slow compared to 2D mode?

Thank a lot in advance.

PS. I got an email saying I will receive my 3d bundle (glasses kit and monitor) this Saturday the 23rd of Jan 2009.

This might just be an issue with the system scan tool. I will inform NVIDIA.

I am having the same problem. This is what it is telling me with a fail message:

Video Card
Minimum: GeForce 8800 GT and above, GeForce 9600 GT and above, all GeForce GTX 200 series
You Have: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (GeForce 8800 GT)

I have tried to run the tool with SLI on and off and its the same thing.

I'm using 2 8800GT in SLI. They work great. I would think performance would vary per game. I'm playing Tomb Raider Anniversary at 1680x1050 with max settings and it looks and runs great. Crysis on the other hand.....I don't know. I haven't tried many titles

Hi Guys

The tool should now be fixed. Let me know if you are still getting a failure message.

9600GSO is actually the same with 8800GTS-512M (G92). Will it has the same issue too?

Thanks!

I have this card, but its in my system as a PhysX co-GPU, so I haven't actually tried 3DVision out on it. Its still a very good card, despite being over 2 years old. For games that work especially well with 3DVision, like Left 4 Dead, I'm sure you'll still get very decent framerates even if you have to turn down a few settings (the Source engine is traditionally fairly well optimized for older and lower end cards). Unfortunately, you will probably have to make the decision now of either running newer games in 3D and on medium settings or in 2D and in high settings. Depends on whether you want the cool 3D effects or the higher resolution textures and effects.
