Question about performance cost of 3d vision and the witcher 3
I've recently been messing around with witcher 3 in 3d vision. My tv only supports 720p 60hz so i have to downsample from 1080p. I noticed that when I play this game in 3d vision with the fix i get a massive framerate drops, but if i use 3d compatability mode i barely lose any frames. Im wondering what is happening there and if something is not working right. I then recently upgraded to a gtx 1070 from a 970 so that i could run witcher 3 in 1080p 3d with mostly ultra settings seeing as the 1070 can run witcher 3 at 1440p at almost ultra at 60 fps, and i still cant get a solid 60 fps at high settings at 1080p with the 3d vision fix. If I use compatability mode i can play the game at 1440p at 60 fps. Im wondering why the 3d vision fix is costing me so many frames compared to compatability mode? Is 3d somehow bottlernecking? I monitor my gpu and cpu and cpu never goes to 100%. my cpu is i5 4690k. anyone know what is needed to run witcher 3 at 1080p with 3d vision and get 60 fps?

Compatibility mode is *2D* and therefore will be 2x the performance of 3D Vision because it is only doing half the work.

I used to play with a GTX 970 almost maxed out and got around 40ish FPS. Now I have a GTX 1080 (i7 3770K OC) and get it buttery smooth. Try reducing Nvidia Hairworks AA, to the middle instead of high. Hairworks is one of the biggest performance hogs in the game.

[/quote] i have hairworks off. aa off. motion blur off. shadows at medium and everyhthing else to high and i still get drops into the 40s at 1080p with a gtx 1070 when using the 3d vision fix. without it i can run the game at 1440p at almost max and get 60 fps I thought maybe my cpu was bottelnecking me but the majority of the time its at 60-80% and doesnt seem to correspond to frame drops. my cpu hits 100% from time to time though especially in novigrad. Im windering if my i5 just isnt cutting it and is the cause of my drops Edit: after looking at my usage im 99% usage on my gpu almost all the time so i dont think its a cpu problem. i just dont think a 1070 is enough to play this game at 1080p in 3d at a solid 60 fps without dropping most things down to medium
