Please Help! Will this TV work with 3d vision? Mitsubishi WD-65638 65-Inch 1080p 3D-Ready DLP HD
I bought the 3d vision kit a while back and I'm yet to be able to experience it. I thought about buying a 3d monitor, but now I do most of my gaming in the living room. SO I want to be able to use an HDTV, not a monitor. I've been hearing so many things here and there, that it is very confusing. I just want to make sure I get the most of the 3d vision experience with an HDTV.

I found this DLP TV (Mitsubishi WD-65638 65-Inch 1080p 3D-Ready) which I'm hesitant to get because of the DLP technology not being as popular nowadays. Howver, I'm willing to buy it as long as my 3d vision works good with it. I checked the Nvidia website for listed supported displays but I did not see this tv, eventhough it lists similar models from Mitsubishi DLP series. In all, is this TV fully supported by 3d vision?

One Last question, would I be able to pay PS3 games in 3d with this tv, if anyone there knows? Thank you all. Much help needed to clarify this confusion.

Support for 3D Vision on the WD-65638 TVs was added in the 266.xx driver release, so you should be good to go for 3D Vision with this model.

For using it with HDMI 1.4 devices supporting stereo 3D you will however need the additional Mitsubishi 3DA-1 adapter kit.

If you decide to go for a newer 738 or 838 series, then you will get a free firmware update that will add HDMI 1.4 support on the TV set without the need of additional hardware.

not only will it work DLP is still the best 3d tech available today. DOnt buy into the hype, the new tv's are not any better, in fact in my opinion they are a step down from legacy sets for 3d gaming. Mits DLP's feature Zero ghosting and native 1080p60 hrz checkerboard 3d on a huge set for a fair price, try getting all that from a new plasma. Just make sure you get a older model that uses HDMI 1.3. the newer models have HDMI 1.4 which is not compatible with nvidia yet -due to 3d tv play software being new (they are planning to update it soon). That model will be plug and play as long as its the 1.3 HDMI. YOu could play ps3 3d games but why would you want to? Consuls suck. especially in 3d. check the AVS forums for consul information. there is a converter or something you will need to buy to make the tv HDMI 1.4 compatible. but then you lose pc compatibility, although im sure there is a work around.

I can't answer whether or not this TV is supported under 3D Vision, but know that there are many sets that work perfectly with 3D Vision that nvidia has purposely omitted from the list.
The key is the HDMI imputs. Whatever you do, make sure that whatever Mits you get has HDMI1.3 inputs, DO NOT get any set with HDMI1.4. Reason is Nvidia boobey trapped 3D Vision drivers after the 258.xx / CD1.33 release as follows:If the 3D setup program detects a HDMI1.4 input, it automatically takes you to 3DTV Play instead of 3D Vision, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. The last thing you want is 3DTV Play because Nvidia castrated it by preventing full quality checkerboard mode. You will be stuck with 720P resolution which looks horrible due to upscaling. So even though the TV itself supports checkerboard, you won't be able to use it.
If the input is HDMI1.3, then 3D setup proceeds under 3D Vision and you get 1080P checkerboard mode which looks very good. If you get a HDMI1.3 TV, be sure you avoid getting the "upgrade" firmware which will change it to HDMI1.4. This firmware may sneak into your set if you have an internet connection and do the HDMI1.4 conversion automatically without warning or consent, so do whatever is mecessary to keep this from happening. A forum member had this happen to him and it ruined his set. He could no longer game in checkerboard, so that was the end of 3D gaming for him, he couldn't stomach the bad picture quality of 3DTV Play (720P).

I have this exact TV and it works great although I've had to have it service.

And the 3d Kit box died. I barely used it. Fortunately this all has been under warranty but it does make me worry about the long term.

So nvidia is supporting the mitsubishis with 3d play now? I thought they explicitly said they weren't doing that. Nice to hear that there is an advantage to having the 3d vision kit. I've never heard of updating the firmware on these mitsubishi's though.

So how do I know what type of hdmi does it use? /blarg.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':/' />. What about this one? I can get this tv mit WD-60638 for $400 is this a good tv? I just want to be able to use my 3d vision kit fully. I've heard alot about these dlp going bad thoug. I might get extended warranty.

Another question with 3dplay can we use Nvidia vision kit (glasses) even if it is 720p? or are we forced to use whatever 3d glasses are meant for such TV. IE: you can only use samsung glasses with a Samsung TV, and not Nvidia's with 3dplay?

Thank you guys

3d TV play requires you use whatever 3d glasses set-up you would normally use with the TV. The checkerboard set-up that the TV supports is actually higher quality than what 3d TV play outputs. The HDMI inputs are 1.3. You can look up the full specifications on mitsubishi's website.
