How much wattage is needed to run GTX 480 SLI? What kind of power supply is required? I have a power supply with 750W, will it work?

Very close, depends on what your other components are. For 480s sli you should have a very fast cpu which increases the power load a lot. I've been running some tests and with a core i7 930 @ 2.9 (stock) it gets 25 fps in gtr evolution (at starts) in stereo or non-stereo. Clearly cpu limited, bumping the cpu to 3.8 increases the framerate to 31 but the cpu power usage goes a lot higher. So you need a fast cpu and even worse if overclocked ( + all other components) it might not be enough. Not worth the risk. I had a 750 W as well and got a 1200W just to be sure. Better $200 than $2000 in blown up stuff. Also make sure the 12V rail has enough amps, wattage is not the only thing, you should be ok with almost all 1000W or 1200W power supplies but I don't know if the cheapest ones have enough amperage.

I have following setup: 2-way sli gtx 480, 3 x acer gd245hq, silverstone strider 1500w, q9650 at 3.7ghz.
so far i am really disappointed by nVidia for following reasons:
1) with sli enabled only two monitors are enbled!
2) with sli disabled you can enable all three monitors, but to set them up to correctly extend took me three hours (and I have an MSc in computer science)
3) with sli disabled you can play in 3d vision, but only on ONE monitor, ie 1 (which happens to be the left most monitor) - the center monitor will not display 3d vision
4) regardless of sli the PCIe channel is completely maxed out, meaning that my PCIe audio card (Creative XFi SB Titanium) starves, ie does not get sufficient data from the mobo to playback sound correctly. Incidently this issue was solved about one year ago between creative and nvidia and now it is back!
5) the 2D display quality of the Acer monitor which nVidia recommends is far worse than that of my 3 year old Samsung 245B
Clearly after waiting 6 months and having spent in excess of 2500 euro this is not what one would expect!!!
some answers to questions before:
1) due to heat dissipation, realistically 2-way sli is the maximum setup with standard air cooled GTX480, if you want to go 3 or 4 way sli then you will need to spend a lot of money on water cooling the gpus
2) 3d vision for 3 monitors is not yet enabled with current drivers - however nVidia has always maintained that a 2-way sli gtx 480 would be sufficient for most demanding 3 monitor, 3d games
3) you need at least 1200w of power supply, however dont just look at how much Ws a PSU delivers but also how many PCIe (6 and 8 pin) cards it will power, most 1200 do 3, some like my strider 1500w does upto 4 cards
Running a single GTX 480 @ 1080p in 3D I would agree with this statement. A single 480 is roughly equivalent to 280 SLI when it comes to 3D Vision, and as most here with even a single 1080p panel in 3D know, that's not always sufficient for more demanding games. Tripling resolution and only doubling GPU performance isn't going to be enough to maintain max settings in the more demanding games that would compel you to upgrade in the first place. I think most people are looking to upgrade to increase FPS in these games while maintaining image quality, not add 2 more flanking panels and subsequently drop image quality settings....
Surround isnt out yet.
Also 3D vision can be deemed unusable with 3-way SLi.

Hi, much of this disappointment could've been avoided on your end with a bit of research beforehand.
1) this is a known limitation even with previous cards. SLI did not even support 2 monitors until the Big Bang 2 drivers released ~Nov 2008. One of the major reasons for excitement with regard to Nvidia Surround is because Nvidia is not only enabling 3D graphics on multiple monitors on the desktop space for the first time, they are also enabling more than 2 monitor support for 2D/desktop as well.
2) this should be a relatively painless operation, don't use the NVCP, use Windows Screen Resolution applet. Just choose your center monitor as "Primary Display". For the other two panels, choose "Extend these Displays". Once both are enabled, just drag them into position flanking the center monitor set to Primary Display. Done. Should take about 3 minutes tops.
3) again, 3D Vision Surround has not yet been released, all the reviews have stated this as has the main Nvidia page. 3DVS will not debut until the 256 series drivers.
4) what chipset/board are you using? I haven't had any issues with my X-Fi HT HD and 280 SLI or 480 SLI.
5) the Acer is TN, that Samsung is probably PVA or MVA, either way, this is another caveat emptor situation where the buyer should be aware of known product limitations.
I read a similar post here a few days ago where someone was complaining their 3-way SLI 480 rig wasn't properly supported with 3D Vision when 3-way SLI support is very clearly stated as being still in Beta. Most people would wait until the feature or product is officially launched and supported before they complained about it, rather than spend the money first.

42 amps are required on the +12V line for the gtx 480.
I couldn't tell, does it have a 6 and 8 pin connector for the GPU ?
gtx 480 requires min. 600w psu and eats up about 250w under load.
I think this PSU will just barely barely power your 480, in time
you will probably want to consider upgrading to one that
is better quality.. but it should work for now !!
lol yeah i knew that but i wasent sure if DX10.1 was a "proper" version, so may of been overscene due to dx11, basicly i should of goolged it lol.
Just wonderd cos i relised on the back of just casue 2 it's dx10.1 ready.

Surround isnt out yet.
Also 3D vision can be deemed unusable with 3-way SLi.
Yep, well aware of that.

Could you please tell me if I this PSU is good enough? I don't want any problems in my system thats why I just want to make sure that everything is fine with my PSU before making any damages. I really appreciate if somebody can verify if this psu is good enough for one GTX 480.
