Unable to display Stereo with FX 1800M, Viewsonic VX2268WM monitor
Hello guys .. my first post.
I have a Dell Precision M4500 laptop. I would like to display in stereo mode, on a Viewsonic VX2268WM monitor. This is how I've connected:
- Display Port to Dual Link DVI-D cable
- Dual Link DVI-D cable to Viewsonic Monitor
My graphics card is FX 1800M, and I have the latest driver: 8.17.12.8026. I am not able to view in 3D mode, and I suspect that the main reason is that I am not able to change the refresh rate of the monitor to 120Hz. (Laptop lid is closed). Under 'List all modes' for the graphics adapter, I don't even see a 120 Hz mode. Is this not supported on FX 1800M? (I'd be surprised).
What could be the reason? Thanks in advance for the help.

Is the Display being properly recognized, you may have to install a driver for it. Windows most likely set it up as plug and play or is not seeing it and only allowing you select the available settings for the laptop. I know there have been issues with notebook GPUs and 3D Vision, but I'm unsure if it applies to the Quaddro cards. I do see that your card is on the requirement list http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-pro-requirements.html

Thanks for the response. I have installed drivers for the display also from the Viewsonic website for Windows 7 64-bit.

Yes, I am only trying to display 1680 x 1050 at 120Hz. For this resolution I see only 60Hz option, no other.

BTW you do realize that is not a 1920x1080P display, try 1680x1050@120

So you've verified that your monitor is listed by Manufacturer and not Generic PNP monitor? Have you tried the "Set up stereoscopic 3D" tab of the Nvidia control panel. Try following the instructions in the 3D Vision User's guide http://www.nvidia.com/content/3dvision/docs/3dvision-universal-install-guide-may11.pdf
Yes to both. In fact, this monitor is listed even on the NVIDIA website as a supported monitor for 3D vision with the FX1800M graphics card.

I meant do you see the display listed by manufacturer in the Nvidia control panelon the change resolution tab? Are you seeing the "set up stereographic 3D" tab in the control panel and if so are you seeing the "green" Nvidia logo displayed?

Yes, I do see it listed in the Nvidia panel, and I also get the Stereo 3D options. Nothing is missing in the GUI, it just doesn't display in 3D! I get this annoying warning: "Attempting to set stereo in a non-stereo mode".

I know close to nothing about the Quaddro cards, but maybe you need to download a different driver and/or connect the emitter differently. Have a look at this page http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro_pro_graphics_boards.html
Hey Ash, what is the make and model of your DP-to-DVI-D adapter? Is it the one Nvidia sells here? If you're using an adapter that's not USB powered, you won't be able to get 3D through the DP. And if it is powered, you still might not get 3D. I tried to the same thing with a Dell M4600 and Quadro 2000M and discussed it just yesterday here. Does any of this sound similar to your experiences? Have you tried adjusting your settings through the Nvidia Control Panel available through right-clicking on the desktop and making sure Stereo is enabled? Do you ever get your emitter logo to glow, indicating it is getting the 3D signal? See attached for some of the settings I'm using on my workstation.

Thanks for the response. I have installed drivers for the display also from the Viewsonic website for Windows 7 64-bit.
