Projector gaming. Some games are 1080i and I can't change it to 1080p
  1 / 2
Hi, I have a problem with my projector and I'm hoping some genius on here can solve this issue for me. I have a Panasonic PTAT-6000e (an PTAE8000u in the states) projector. I've noticed in some games that the projector is actually outputting 1080i rather than 1080p and looks worse because of it. Nvidia control panel sees my projectors native resolution as 1080i 30hz, don't know why, but it's always been like that. I think this is the issue. How can I delete 1080i from the list of resolutions available in Windows? I know CRU can make custom resolutions, but I don't think it can delete resolutions from Windows that aren't custom, or can it? Why don't games have a hz option when you choose resolution? Or doesn't nvidia have an option to choose the default gaming resolution you want to use? It's not just one or two games, there are loads that do it. Please advise as it's doing my nut in! Rise of the Tombraider, plants Vs zombies 2 and sometimes rocketleague are 1080i whilst streetfighter V and others are 1080p. Anyone using projectors on here should check what the games are outputting as I think you might be surprised. Please advise me as it's doing my head in. Thanks.

I've never had this problem. Post your EDID and I'll try it tomorrow after my holiday house guests finally leave. That way we can determine if Nvidia is outputting different to that Display ID.

Fastest fix is to check if there is an ini or cfg file in game, and change there the default refresh and make the file readonly

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll upload my edid later on. If I could just delete the 1080i resolution it would be perfect, but I can't find a way. Nvidia need to get on this as there are loads of people over the years having this issue with HDMI. Thanks again. Doesn't it happen to anyone else?

Possible driver issue? I see the exact same complaint here. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/980510/geforce-drivers/all-resolutions-are-listed-as-1080p-i/

Rise of the tombraider swaps from 1080i to 1080p is I disable 'exclusive full screen' mode. Rocket league seems to be random, but if I change resolution in game from 1080 to something else then back again it changes to 1080p. Don't think it's a driver issue as it has been like this for a while. If I upload my edid D-Man11 can all interlaced resolutions be removed? Is this even possible? I tried to use CRU and just added 1080p and deleted all the rest. This works. It then it doesn't see my projector as 3D capable so I have to keep swapping back. This is so annoying! Why don't nvidia add a resolution, propgressive or interlaced and a refresh rate option in GeForce experince or in the Nvidia control panel! People have been having this problem for over half a decade and are still having it now. On another point, why can't nvidia gfx cards do 24hz properly. I get a single stutter every so often in a movie and it is doing my nut in. Use a cheap western digital media player and 24hz works fine! Nvidia doesn't support true 24hz playback? WTF?!?

What you are describing is not normal. Upload your Edid to see what's in it.

If you upload it, it would be possible to look at the data blocks and see if it has any entries for interlaced resolutions as well as the supported 3D formats. Editing the EDID would depend on what is contained in it. If there's no interlaced support shown, something else is wrong.

Ok here they are. The projector is plugged into my Marantz AV7702 mk2. I've uploaded this edid. The edid for my projector was still in cru from last time I used it, so Ive uploaded this too. http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=09636350177281116377

In the newer EDIDs, almost all of the pertinent information is in that second data block. With it missing, the GPU will not see any Audio capabilities, nor all of the supported stereoscopic formats. You need to get the projector EDID by itself and the same for your AVR, then get a 3rd with it in the chain for me to look at. Remove any CRU stuff that you have done. AVRs are supposed to either sniff and incorporate display data blocks with their own or allow passthrough. You want to be sure that they are merging and playing nicely. Currently, the GPU should be sending only two channel stereo, because there is nothing telling it that you have the capability to play anything else.

I think it's the same but here is the projector edid taken directly from the gfx card. http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=16895239527763248197 Do you know what values I can change to get the projector to default to 1080p instead of 1080i without losing 3d tv play options etc? Thanks

It's odd that 1080P isn't set as your native timing. I sincerely doubt that it's only capable of 1080i. Do you know which DMD it is using? BTW, these are the audio settings that your PJ shows CE audio data (formats supported) DTS 6-channel, 1536k max. bit rate at 44/48 kHz AC-3 6-channel, 640k max. bit rate at 32/44/48 kHz LPCM 2-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48/96/192 kHz It also shows 3D formats supported..... Not supported A lot of times it will say "3D formats supported..... Mandatory formats only", odd that your's says "not supported" Is this a 2D projector? Plus it says that it has a Maximum TMDS clock....... 300MHz. Does it have interpolation? edit: a quick look at Amazon shows that it's 3D capable.

GibsonRed are you sure this is the original edid? It is the most rudimentary Edid I ever seen and as D-man11 said it is just showing the interlaced resolutions.
