BUG REPORT: 3D-Vision-Discover can't be enabled on Laptops! Nvidia - Please fix this!

Thank you very much!
I will try it as soon as I arrive home today!
You can use the modded desktop driver 190.38. Its working fine for me.
If you attach an external display to your laptop you can use the newer drivers as well in Discover-Mode. When you switch the external display to primary in clone mode you will have Discover-Mode on the internal Laptop-Display too.

Honestly you'd be best trying the IZ3D driver till this is sorted. The analglyph option is free on theirs.
Yes, but its full of bugs and has poor performance
I found a cheap Hardware-solution to get past this stupid message: "This laptop's panel is not qualified for 3D Vision"
You will need a 24+5pin DVI-plug and 3 75Ohm resistors. The 3 resistors must be connected to the analog-color-signals against Ground.
This works with an old VGA-connector too if your laptop only has VGA-output.
When connected to the laptop it will find an Analog-Display-Device. You will need to set the Displays to Clone-Mode and set the Analog-Display-Device as Primary.
Now you will be able to pass the 3D-Vision-Discover-Wizzard.

Hi~ I just read about your posts on the forum, and find this very impressive! /photo.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':photo:' />
now the driver version is 260.89 and I still get that message on my laptop too. (haven't got time to try out your solution)
just wondering if there's any possible software way to modify the driver or registry to skip the check on panel?
(like someone said, I also just wanna try the old fashioned redblue 3D, and not so interested in installing other drivers...)

No, unfortunatelly there is no Software-mod to get around this problem  . The only way is the Analog-Display-Dummy - but it is very easy to build one ;) .

Hi, I'm going to try the hardware workaround a bit later as well, thanks for that.
But I would also like an answer from nvidia about why they removed support for 3d vision discover on laptops? Especially since the support seems to be there, you only need to attach a screen?

Hey, my old thread has been digged out /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .
I guess that Nvidia is too busy to care about this. They introduced this bug with the v191.xx drivers and they won't be able for a year or so to search for this bug.

I guess, if all laptop-users could test the 3D-Discover-mode, Nvidia would sell more of the 3D-Vision-stuff. But it seems that they don't need the money /rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

Nvidia, please fix this. Any display (except of course a monochrome display) is fit for at least "Discover" (anaglyph) mode so please do not disable the "Stereoscopic 3D" option.

I just want to bump this post. I think it's a pretty ridiculous oversight. I have used the iZ3D driver before, but dang I thought by now nVidia could have included support. The sad part is that the support is there, we just can't access it. A quick registry fix for the newest driver would be great. Not exactly my specialty. If only you didn't need to switch to the higher Hz to view the Wizard, it would be fine.
By the way, I use a Macbook Pro Late 2008 (that's a 9600M GT) with Windows 7.
Anyone who finds a way to do this (software only for me) before nVidia fixes the problem, please let us know!

Let me explain this issue. Our notebook OEMs requested that we do not enable Discover on notebooks. That was not our choice. This was because 3D was so new to them.
That being said, we are going to explore turning it back on since now they are more interested in 3D.

Haha, a lot anaglyph-pictures were made in the 60's allready - a very new technology. /biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> A wonder that they use Nvidia-chips instead of scraping the bugs out of the relays. /laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Enough jokes for today. It would be great if you would let us some more options to set, Andrew. Full-Color-, Half-color(without color-shader), and B/W for example. Or the type of glasses used(Red/Cyan, Green/Magenta, Yellow/Blue). Similar to the older 3D-Stereo-drivers.
By the way: Some more settings would be great for 3D-Vision too (unlocked Convergence,ScreenSize-Override,Glasses-Sync-Timing, Checkerboard-Mode for HDMI 1.4 devices). I can't imagine, why it's so hard to reactivate some of those old settings. Or are these settings so new to you, Nvidia? /wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Hi~ I just read about your posts on the forum, and find this very impressive!
now the driver version is 260.89 and I still get that message on my laptop too. (haven't got time to try out your solution)
just wondering if there's any possible software way to modify the driver or registry to skip the check on panel?
(like someone said, I also just wanna try the old fashioned redblue 3D, and not so interested in installing other drivers...)

That being said, we are going to explore turning it back on since now they are more interested in 3D.
Haha, a lot anaglyph-pictures were made in the 60's allready - a very new technology.
