What cool KICK BUTT 3d Vision Projectors are out there that are bright!
1 / 2
1 - I use a viewsonic projector and wish that when I wasnt using 3d mode that my video games looked as high a resolution and as bright as they do on my monitor. When im playing sc2 at 1280x800 on my projector it looks ALOT worse than the 1900x1200 im using on my monitor when NOT using 3d. IS there any projector out there that has a higher native resolution that my viewsonic PJD6531w's 1280x80 and that also works with 3dVision? I spent around $700 on it a year ago and, while I like it, I wonder what else is good.
2 - Soooooo, what else is out there? I heard the next best projector requires me to jump from 700$ to about 2000$? What is native resolution on the projectors a step up that also play nvidea 3d? If i want a projector that has a native 1600x1200 or so PLUS works in nvidea 3d vision...what is out there? what is closest to this?

Projector screen is more important then projector for brightness. http://www.projectorcentral.com/projector_screens_gain.htm

Completely dimming the room helps a lot when using projector+shutters. The other option is a dual projector rig but nvidia doesn't support this anymore. Besides another problem with dual projectors is unsync between the outputs (driverrelated) and causes framelag which is very disturbing in 3d. So far i manage very well with my 8800gtx and dual projectors but i've heard plenty of others having problems with framelag so i can't recommend this route until driversituation gets better.

Good eyes Cyber... I just wondered how this was possible... It's against the law of physics that a black surface reflects more than a white. Black is good for rearprojection since it both needs to absorb as well as transmit light. Using a black matte as primer for a homemade polarizationpreserving silverscreen makes crosstalk less if the "silverpaint" isn't totally opaque.

Ok everyone. Thanks for the replies....buuuuut WHAAAAAT? Lol. So many different options and responses here I don't know what to do. So, for a casual "new to projectors guy," what should I do? Is my 110 dollar screen from fry's my problem? Please be specific in replies.

Cybereality is joking, there's an other projector off to the side of the photo.
Dark screens do work and they can get brighter than standard matte screen by taking advantage of the gain (focus all the light straight ahead at the expense of the side : view angle is reduced but in-axis brightness is still the same or it can be made multiple times brighter than standard white matte).
But the difference between black high gain and the usual white high gain is that black screens also absorb ambient light coming from the sides, so they were orders of magnitude better than white screens when there is any light in the room.
Sony discontinued the lines of screens but other companies replaced them. The most famous "black" screen at the moment is the SI BlackDiamond. (it's expensive as hell though)

I presume that you're looking for an inexpensive solution, in which case I don't know much about whats out there or how good it is.
However, if you're prepared to spend a bit, the best projector you can buy right now for 3D is the new Sharp XV-Z17000. It's also the world's first 3D 1080p 3D DLP projector although you'll be using 3DTV Play for Nvidia 3D games which will limit you to 1280x720@60 or 1920 x 1080@24 due to HMDI 1.4. Still, even on my 135" screen, 1280x720 in 3D on this thing looks sensational. I'm using a matte white screen with 1.27gain and it's still vibrant with active 3D glasses on (I'm getting 19ft lamberts). If you're looking to throw a smaller picture than that, it'll be brighter still. And best of all - ZERO ghosting as it's DLP. I cannot stress how incredible S3D gaming is when there is no cross-talk what so ever. It's incredible at 2D as well and I could not be happier with it.

You can project all colors except black. Black screens give the best contrast. The high tech material black screens do very well at reflecting colors for the best picture quality from rear projection. They are pricey though.

Hey Guys..using caps here just for fun and emphasis..... : )
the problem isn't really my projector...but it is the WAY IT DISPLAYS MY PC'S IMAGES. When I AM USING BLUERAY through my samsung 5 disc blue ray receiver IT LOOKS INCREDIBLY PERFECTLY AWESOME IN BLUERAY. It just doesnt' look as good when using my pc. The images look a bit "washed out" or slightly dull and less bright. Again, I am using a pretty nice rig with a Gforce 480 gtx and hdmi connection cable into my projector/receiver. So I don't think it is my screen or my projector...because it looks so good in blue ray mode. I have tried adjusting all the nvidea settins to brighten...but it just doesn't look quite as good as I would like. Also, I THINK I used some Edid Override from you guys months ago that made my projector/computer "think" that it was the that other acer projector and suddenly my projector's native was higher than 1200x800, and it looked awesome in 1900x1200...or something with that may of helped a while back. Am I remembering that correctly?
Anyone have any idea why blue ray on my projector looks great...AWESOME...but pc mode looks bland?
