Far Cry 4 Performance
  1 / 2
Hello guys, Just downloaded the fix for FC4 and it looks gorgeous so many thanks for that! But actually I'm facing huge gpu utilization drops from 99% to 60% all the time and it makes the game experience laggy. I did some researches and apply them like modifying GamerProfile.xml or disable/enable cpu cores when running the game but nothing works. Hope that someone have a solution :) Also I don't know if it's possible to tweak scale textures distance on this game as sometimes far objects are not loaded and makes the graphics looks bad. thanks! 1080 Ti 399.07 7700k 4.9Ghz 16gb 1440p Game Version 1.10

it's just the 3D fix who is causing these drops I don't know why, even in 2D mod but with 3D fix files copied in main document the drops remains. Driver maybe? I can't use recommended old driver :/

I noticed performance issues in Farcry 4 as well, and thus set it aside. Curiously, Farcry Primal, which came out after, runs MUCH smoother and was a joy to play to completion. Hopefully someone will post how to improve it, as I'd like to also play Farcry 4.

Concerning the fps drops what I noticed (without 3D fix files copied as well) is generally these drops have relation with buildings, when I'm front of a building the huge drops remains but when I'm roaming in nature the GPU is between 89-99%.

Ok guys: I learned a lot from you, and I am happy to give something back now. I tested yesterday the whole day with Far Cry 4, and I made it photorealistic now, AND got rid of performance problems AND installed Nightmare mod, to make it really challenging. It was my first time with reshade, the 3D was awesome, but performance had some BIG random drops!! Same Spot, same time of day(Frozen) I had 58 Frames, after restart of game, same Spot I had like 34 Frames!! Yes no changes, RANDOM performance after every restart. I know sounds crazy. And graphics locked stupid, I had not the feeling it was a bright sunny day, more like a greyish/red filter. I fixed all(not sure what did it), and it looks perfect now!! I have stable 45-60 Frames everywhere, with my reshade tweak. I play on 1440p! See my Signature Rig for Comparison. I share my settings and tweaks here now. First pics: (No Ansel supported in Far Cry 4.) If you think it's TOO BLUE, keep in mind that the glasses are a blue filter. The biggest performance killer from the 3D Vision mod is the texture hash tracking. You can disable track_texture_updates in the d3dx.ini to eliminate this, however doing so will cause parts of the HUD to break at random - the camera HUD is particularly sensitive to this, and sometimes the map or main menu might break. The crosshair and floating icons seemed unaffected in my testing.

OMG more testing!! But I am so happy now...no more suicide danger ;) I swear I just drove 15 Minutes with the quad and had NOT ONE Lag/Hick/Stutter, not even a single bit of a hick...nada 0....50-60 Frames including reshade. 1440p I just kept driving...so fun....like a racer now :) Before my testing I had small lags every 6-7 seconds, nothing major but huge improvement compared to vanilla. Did testing on this settings DisableLoadingMip0="1" GPUMaxBufferedFrames="2" track_texture_updates=0 GPUMaxBufferedFrames did not changed anything for me, so back to 0. (I think this settings changes very little, since in 3D graka has not much time to prerender) DisableLoadingMip0="1" This one makes a huge difference-postitive. track_texture_updates=0 this indeed also makes a difference for driving. And now the setting which made it perfect: Geometry "Ultra" -> high I realized that I did indeed had like 50-60 frames, but some parts felt laggy in 3D..really weird. You can see it best with the half circle mud walls, which separates the field of the farmers outside of the first city. If you strafe in front of them, they are VERY JERKY!!. Still 60 FPS but JERKY! like the walls have 15 Frames!! the rest is Normal. So I played with settings and found that Geometry"ultra" is causing it."veryhigh" no difference, but "high" made it NEARLY disappear. Not perfect but ok. The same effect was when encircling the quad very close...60 FPS but the quad is laggy. With Geometry on high also NEARLY gone. And to be honest I see no visual difference but did not searched for it really. So back on the quad,....AND oh boy...15 Minutes not the slightest lag,..NOTHING...and I waited for one thx. If you overtake a car you realize that the other car is jerky, not me not the picture just the car. But that's fine. It's perfect now. Strange thing the geometry settings, since I always thought geometry is mostly CPU, and my CPU is at 33% while playing!!! lol. Anyway....hope I could have helped some of you. greetz

Update: More testing with driving. Put Geometry to ultra and drove with it. NOTHING not a tiny bit of lag!!! (But I let it on high, since the rest feels more fluid,..Frames stay same) So I really think these two made it! GamerProfile.xml DisableLoadingMip0="1" d3dx.ini track_texture_updates=0 One thing I realize is that 5 meters ahead of the road the texture of the road changes a bit at the border, like with classical billinear filtering or cheap anisot. 2x . It's not pronounced, but noticeable. Anisotropic filtering is 16x in NVIDA SYS and INSPECTOR. Anyone knows a solution? Damn I have more fun testing than playing....what'S wrong?

Sounds really good Quantummagic. I'll try your recommended tweaks tomorrow and provide feedback if it also worked for me :). The stuttering with cars took out the fun for me in the past so this would be a huge improvement.

You see a ALT+tab difference?? this wonders me the most. Maybe it's just my PC/config, but it's REALLY strange. I heard about some games with less frames after alt+tabbing,..but not more :)))) I hope you have a SSD. You have some strange stutter in front of these farm walls and close to the quad, where the quads lags(only the quad), while having a lot of frames? (Geometry-"high" fixed that to minimum) You play 3D right? Still not played. I am tweaking now Alien Isolation :)) And I finally found a reshade vers. that is working with 3D Fix. Now I have JJ Abrams Lens Flares all over the place (not the round, but the straight lines, exactly like the new star trek).....it looks so cool :)))

I've tested your tweak with those settings now: GamerProfile.xml DisableLoadingMip0="1" d3dx.ini track_texture_updates=0 I can confirm stuttering is completely gone! Now the game runs perfectly fine! I couldn't see HUD broken yet (however haven't tested intensively yet). I also have the minor issue with the texture border - it's barely noticeable. You have to concentrate on this to see it. Cannot see any performance differences when tabbing out of the game. However with the tweaks the FPS are much better now. Thx Quantummagic and DarkStarSword for your tips! I have added these 2 relevant settings to 3DFM now (I will release the updated profile today)

@Quantummagic: Could you tweak Far Cry 3 as well? xD I think there was also a little bit of stuttering when driving cars :D
