3D vision + openGl + quadro = Second Life?
Hi all,

I've bought a Samsung 2233RZ and a 3D vision kit mainly to use ist with Second Life.
Then I found out, that SL only supports OpenGl rendering.

Since 3D vision only supports direct3D with my consumer Geforce 8800GTS (G92),
I'm now thinking of buying a Quadro card, like a Quadro FX 580.

As far as I know, stereo 3D works with OpenGl and quadro cards.

So my question is now: Will Second Life work with the following setup?

- Windows XP prof 32bit or Windows 7 home premium 32bit (I have both of them installed on my main PC)
- Quadro FX580 (or maybe another affordable Quadro card)
- 3D vision shutter glasses
- Samsung 2233RZ

Any hints appreciated

regards
Markus

It will not work, unless Second Life supports Quad-buffered OpenGL mode and not generic OpenGL rendering... so there is not point in buying Quadro card for that as it will work with stereo 3d mode only with professional applications that can use the QB OpenGL mode.

hi all,

thanks for your replies.
I don't want to believe that I will not be able to enjoy Second Life in 3D stereo with recent hardware.

I have got a second PC with an old Geforce 5900XT where the good old Nvidia Stereo driver works.
So here I have a marvellous 3D effect together with an outdated CRT.

But the performance with the old single core Athlon 2200 XP is not really good /yucky.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':yucky:' />

On my main system I have an expensive 26" TFT and the Samsung 2233RZ but cannot use SL in 3D.

This situation nearly drives me crazy /pirate.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pirate:' />

Please can anyone with a quadro board install the Second Life client and definitively confirm
that it doesn't work or much better that it works?

@NVIDIA: please have an insight and support OpenGL as you did in the ancient times!!!
