FarCry Help Needed "Floating" / Flattened Models
Hope no one minds a newbie question :) I just got a pair of eDimensional shutter glasses last Friday and am in love so far, except for a rather puzzling problem that's come up in FarCry. The terrain and most of the interior geometry looks fantastic - lush, dense, solid and believable. With the 1.3 patch and e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio set to 100, it's even better.

My problem comes in with various models populating the world. Huts, large boulders, enemies and so on are all distinctly displayed at the wrong depth. The terrain surrounding them will be perfectly converged, but the models themselves diverge wildly. It's not even close and really quite unplayable, especially since enemies are so distorted.

An additional symptom of the problem is that the view model appears to be quite flat. If I take off the glasses and look at the screen, there doesn't seem to be any overlapping views of the weapon models, meaning no stereo perception there.

Shadow maps cast from the vegetation onto the world and view weapon model also don't seem to appear in stereo. They render fine in normal mode.

My setup is an Asus A7N8X-E (nForce 2), Athlon XP 2700+, 1GB of RAM and a GeForce 6800GT. I'm running XP SP2 with the 71.89 driver/stereo combo. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

Once I get back from work, I'll post a couple of .jps images demonstrating the convergence oddities.

Welcome to the often annoying, but frequently dazzling world of stereo mate.

I found these same issues with Far Cry too, until I configured it correctly. Here is a cut 'n' paste from a post in the stereovision.net forum. All credit to Ged for this. Load up the Far Cry config tool (in the game folder) and have this handy.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ok, after further messin around because I don't like having to turn bells and whistles off, I've refined the quick dirty fix I posted earlier.

BFG 6800GT OC (Default speed)
Nvidia 71.84 driver (Defaults) & Stereo driver (Defaults).

FarCry patched to 1.3

In the FarCry config tool.

Video Options :

Screen Resolution = 1024x768x32
Anti Aliasing = 0

Video options (Advanced) :

Texture Quality = Very High
--------------------------------------------

Texture Filter Quality = Trilinear
--------------------------------------------

Anisotropic Filtering Level = 1 (Off)
--------------------------------------------

Particle Count = Very High
--------------------------------------------

Special Effects Quality = Very High

*After setting V High or whatever for this option, next choose customize on the lower right. Click on the Special Effects Quality tab and set :

Value for r_MotionBlur = 0 (Off)
--------------------------------------------

Environment Quality = Very High

*Customize, Environment Quality tab and set :

Value for r_VolumetricFog = 0
--------------------------------------------

Shadow Quality = Very High
--------------------------------------------

Water Quality = Ultra High

*Customize, Water Quality tab and set :

Value for r_WaterRefractions = 0
--------------------------------------------

Lighting Quality = very High

*Customize, Lighting Quality tab and set :

Value for r_Quality_BumpMapping = 2
--------------------------------------------

That's it for the Config tool. For me on my 6800 these settings made the game work flawlessly in Stereo, and solved all the flickering/depth/ghosting issues I was having. You can of course set all these values in the game console, but I like to get it out of the way before playing.

You can use as high or low settings as you like in general, as long as you make sure and set the Asterisked 'Customize' settings above.... I personally just like things as maxed out as I can get away with with my card.

Speaking of the game console I also found that doing this :

Game Console

Enter game console in game with key above Tab.

Type "hud_screendamagefx 0" without the speech marks and press return.

got rid of the annoying 3d/2d flicker that I was getting whenever I got shot. (Which was often)

Cheers.
