OPTOMA HD66 I GOTS MINE
Hi guys

Just wanted to let you know, the Optoma HD65 works fine at 720p 85hz 100hz and 120hz , I got one,you just need to setup the custom res properly via nvidia panel.

but unfortunately i havent managed to make it work in 3D, I have installed the 1.15 cd and setup it as CRT, the image just Stutters like hell and no 3d, in the setup process it changes the refresh to 85hz but once its finished i can test it at 120hz,still no 3d just tons of Stuttering whenever it goes to 3d....

my samsung works fine.

any ideas?

PD: the projector Info confirms the refresh rates at those values.
Hey miko3d

I have the HD65 also, tried every thing there is to get 3D to work had the same results as you violant shuttering

It was said that Optoma was going to offer a firmware upgrade for the HD65 that would make it 120hz so when i contacted them was told there had never been any confirmed statement
of that.

The HD65 is still a very impressive beamer, mine went to the bedroom and now the HD66 holds its place in my Home theater shrine (Living room)

Best of luck to you

This is a really nice projector to be in the under the 1000 range. I was wanting a projector with HDMI connection and was also 3D Ready. This one is a winner. It's a little brighter than the HD65 so 3D is amazing even with 3D Vision Glasses. The color is a huge feature, If you have ever got to see what the HD65 is capable of it's like that but in 3D. Native resolution is 1280x720 and it does do 120hz. I'm very very pleased with this little beamer. The only Con i find is no driver support at this time, so as you would know I'm having to run as a CRT for 3D.
And we all know that no driver support CAN LEAD TO THE DARKSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi

First congratulations on the purchase. I wanted to let you know that Optoma projectors are currently not certified to work with 3D Vision. We are working with Optoma to correct that, but to date that means there is no driver support for these products.

Thanks.

To the guys having to wear the glasses upside down.
Have you tried Avatar the game on PC because that lets you reverse it.

By the way I only just started playing this, I cannot believe how good it looks.
The options in the menu for 3D should be in every game if you ask me.
I have mine set now and am playing on 22" sammy and cannot believe the clarity of this game in 3D.

I think this on a 720P projector like the hd66 would be unbelievable.
So impressed with this game, I captured some small vids with Fraps and they come out in perfect stereo to what you have the settings dimed in at.
Only thing is my frame rate drops whilst running this.
I'll play with it some more but looks great.

Yes I already tried Avatar on my Optoma HD66 and it looks amazing.

Everything looks good on Optoma HD66 except for the driver support from nvidia. Did anybody tried the new 3D vision drivers released recently? I am going to try these later today and will let you know if it detects optoma as generic CRT as with CD V1.15. But I guess it will not since nvidia does not support it. Why can't nvidia make the drivers to work on any display which can take pure 120 hz signal? Then this certification thing will not be necessary. But it looks like nvidia is making money in this certification process. Thats why they don't want to get away with it.

I have been experimenting with both the driver CDs v1.20 and v1.18A released on Jan 22 but nonce of them detects optoma Hd 66 as a 3D ready display and there is no option to choose "Generic CRT". So it does not still support optoma hd66.

I then reinstalled v1.15 and 3D works again as it used to. Then I did some experiments with dll files in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision". ( ALL tests on windows 7 64 bit with GTX 260)

1. Copy "3D vision" (cd v1.15 installed) to folder let say "3D Vision Copy".
2. Install both graphics driver as well as the 3D vision drivers from cd 1.20. Without uninstalling anything.
3. In the nvidia control panel only option shown is "3D vision discover". Close the nvidia control panel.
4. Copy file named "nvSCPAPI64.dll" from "3D Vision Copy" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision".
5. Start nvidia control panel and now there are all the 3 options "Generic CRT", "Generic DLP" and "3D vision discover" in the drop down menu.
6. Start the 3d vision setup wizard but still it does not detect display and shows only "3D vision discover". Finish the wizard.
7. Now if you choose "Generic CRT" from the drop down menu then it has no effect. Close the nvidia control panel.
8. Copy file named "nvSCPAPI.dll" from "3D Vision Copy" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision".
9. Start nvidia control panel and now again there are all the 3 options "Generic CRT", "Generic DLP" and "3D vision discover".
10. Start the 3d vision setup wizard and now wizard has all the 3 options "Generic CRT", "Generic DLP" and "3D vision discover". But no matter which option you chose it will end up with setting "3D vision Discover".
11. Uninstall 3D vision driver. Delete ""C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision".
12. Then I installed graphics driver from cd v1.15 (without uninstalling previous driver). Then installed 3D vision drivers from CD v1.20. Dont run the 3D wizard now. Go to next step.
13. Now Copy file named "nvSCPAPI64.dll" from "3D Vision Copy" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision".
14. Start nvidia control panel and now there are all the 3 options "Generic CRT", "Generic DLP" and "3D vision discover" in the drop down menu.
15. Start the 3d vision setup wizard but still it does not detect display and shows only "3D vision discover". Finish the wizard.
16. Choose "Genecic CRT" from the drop down menu in nvidia control panel and "Click apply". Now this time it really has an effect.
17. Run the 3d test at 120 hz and you should see full 3d with the 3d glasses upside down.
18. One more this I noticed is that all the game profiles for 3D are still there (including Avatar).

So the above mentioned dll files are somewhat involved in this display detection issue. So ideally these steps should work too:

1. Copy file named "nvSCPAPI64.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision" when cd v1.15 was installed.
2. Uninstall all nvidia drivers.
3. Install both graphics driver as well as the 3D vision drivers from cd 1.20.
3. Now replace file named "nvSCPAPI64.dll" in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision" with file from step 1.
4. Start nvidia control panel and now there are all the 3 options "Generic CRT", "Generic DLP" and "3D vision discover" in the drop down menu.
5. Start the 3d vision setup wizard but still it does not detect display and shows only "3D vision discover". Finish the wizard.
6. Choose "Genecic CRT" from the drop down menu in nvidia control panel and "Click apply". Now this time it really has an effect.
7. Run the 3d test at 120 hz and you should see full 3d with the 3d glasses upside down.
8. All new game profiles added in cd v1.20 are still there.

Somebody please confirm that this works for you too.

Hi there!

I was about to get an optoma hd 65 projector in December but I heard about the hd 66 and decided to wait a little.
I have seen some terrible comments on amazon about colors and skin tone and others comments that glorified it in an outrageous way (ending by Kudos to optoma!).

After a little research I ended up here with you guys!
It appears that there are few problems about the 3D vision that make this projector note quiet "ready".

My question is simple:
Can someone who own this projector tell me more about the quality of the image? (compared to hd 65 or other)?

P.S:
3D is not my priority but it seems that we are at the beginning of a new era and I would like to know if the problems about the hd66 (nvidia compatibility for instance) are just a matter of time or if it will be wise to wait for a better one (I heard that optoma would release 2 new 3D projectors by March can someone confirm this?)

I know that's a lot of questions but I really appreciate some help!

I think compatibility is just a matter of time for 3D Vision.

I have an idea on how to get your glasses synching correctly with the Optoma. :)

I'm just unsure whether to share openly would Nvidia lock it down :) who knows.
It is simple in all the 3D components talking to each other which do you reckon would be a great one to look at (sniff sniff) because I reckon it could work but I am no coder so thats where I'd need help.

And I could be just crappin on but I do have proof that is very simple.
So far looks like a goer to me.

Yep I now know it would just involve some scripting really.
I'm looking at it from Linux perspective but I'm sure someone could help in the windows side.

Ilove my HD 66 the color is stunning and picture quality very nice . I also own the HD 65 the only real difference i have noticed between the 2 ( Besides 3D of course) is the HD 66 seems to be a little brighter and i'm not getting as much RBE.

If i a chance to do it over would still be my purchase

Can you elaborate more on the RBE of HD66? I currently have the Acer H5360 and it has too much RBE for my eyes..

Can you see them without "scanning" the picture with your eyes? I'm pretty sensitive to them, so ideally I should be testing the HD66 but nobody has it in Finland(?)

Wow, I just decided to try on the glasses upside down and they fit surprisingly well, lol. So, now I am thinking about ordering the HD66, but it seems there are issues with it being detected? I feel like I was able to look past one drawback only to be faced with another... :\
