Will Portal 2 overwhelm my spatial imagination? and how much work can I miss if that happens?
Gamespot reported that there will be no 3D version of Portal 2 for PS3. Not a big deal in these forums but what struck me was the reasoning behind it:
Faliszek also ruled out a 3D version of Portal 2. He said that the game's heavy emphasis on "spatial imagination" would be overwhelming in 3D, so the developers opted against it. He said such new technology would have to have been an integral part of development from the beginning to make sense--and in this case, it wasn't.
I can understand not wanting to slam 3D into the game at the last minute but what the Hades is this talk about spatial imagination!?!?

Yea, this is going to look insane in 3D, much like portal did.

It will be a good'n.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

The real reason of course is, they can't optimize the game enough to still have playable framerates when running in stereo on the PS3. Would have been much better had the PS3 not gotten stereo3d, but rather the PS4. Now we're also stuck with a crappy HDMI 1.4 standard, because sony pushed their own agenda.

Yep - plenty of games have enough trouble keeping the framerate up on a PS3 playing flat graphics. Kicking out double the images will really hit hard over there. So why couldn't Valve just say that?

haha because 'spacial imagination' sounds epic! ... not!

They probably think the backgrounds would be too distracting. If you look at portal 2 screenshots, they're emphasizing huge open environments and knowing valve they like to test and retest segments for ease of use and flow and such ... or something ... at least that's what i get from that jargon. Either way, game will look beastly in 3d on PC.
