3 way SLI with 3D vision surround. Have they fixed it? Helifax or any other surround users please h
Last time I tried 3 way SlI was with my 680s over a year ago and the scaling was horrible and sometimes I had less FPS then 2 way SLI. I ended up selling the extra card. Now with the 780s out, I'm wondering how the performance is with 3 way SLI in 3D VISION SURROUND? I read somewhere that they had fixed 3 way SLI for surround users but trying to find any info on a 3D VISION surround user is non existent. Anyone have experience with this kind of setup? Just wondering if I should go through the hassle of trying a 3rd card. thanks

I think even for 3D surround, 780 SLI is enough, its near enough twice as fast as 680 SLI.

I don't think anyone has a real answer without sitting down and testing the various configurations. From what I've read, 3-4 way did scale but only and specifically in 3D surround but can't confirm that. It definitely doesn't scale in single screen 3d. A single 690 (680 SLI) runs pretty well in 3d surround and like cooky said, 780 SLI is very powerful and will probably give you what you want.

Hey, Honestly I am still using my GTX 590....But until one year ago...I used to have 2 GTX590 (one got burned - manufacturer problem as both cards were watercooled and one from start behaved weird). But I never had any scaling problems in QUAD SLI back then. OFC the scaling is not another 50% in 3 and 4 way SLI... So from what I noticed then scaling was like this: 2 SLI scalling another 50% (basically around 200% from one card) 3 SLI another 30% and 4 SLI another 10-15% The same scaling factors were applied for 3D Surround. I was looking for some time about 2xTitans or 2x780 but currently I think the 690 is the best card for 3D Surround (until 790 appears...if it appears) Why I mention this, is because I did test on a setup (not mine) 2x570 SLI and I discovered the performance regarding SLI is a bit different in dual GPU cards VS regular SLI: Dual GPU cards seem to work better in 3D Surround regarding SLI factor.. On my GTX590 I get constant 99% usage on both GPUs or bad usage on both GPUs (depending on the drivers) The MB used by me, and in the 2x570 config was a Asus ROG Maximus V Gene (which is a beast of a MB regarding ...well everything) Personally I would recommend not to go higher than 2 way SLI. In fact I recommend a Dual GPU card for 3D Surround. One card (even TITAN) for 3D Surround is not enough as you will see a rapid loss of performance in triple wide resolutions (the higher the resolution goes the worst the performance...and it doesn't look to be linear loss either) So DEFO a Dual GPU or 2xSLI solution. Problem is with 2XSLI is rather dependent on your MOBO also... Another thing that I want to mention is..don't TROW alot of crap to the GPU when rendering 3D Surround either (like massive Antialiasing or UBER tessellation or crap like this) since it will kill your VRAM and the performance for stuff that is 0.5% visible... It's sad that nVidia doesn't provide 3D Vision BASED profiles (or 3D Surround profiles) via Geforce Experience... Another aspect is your desired FPS...if you try to get constant 60fps in 3D Surround at max resolution...I doubt even a GTX690 or 2xTitans can pull it off (but again is based on the game engine, CPU, and Mobo - how is the SLI actually working). But if you target 30fps than even a GTX590 is STILL good to get those fps (based on game engine ofc and settings like said above)... Again resolution plays a MAJOR factor here as do the game settings... For example: Worst game Performance for me is Dragon Age 2 in Surround on DX11 (it doesn't matter what settings I chose or resolution) I get around 15-20 fps but on DX9 I get constant 45-60 fps at 5040x1050 (max res supported by monitors) as for Bioshock 2 where I get 60fps in 3D Surround everything max (DX9 renderer for HelixMod). In Bioshock infinite at max (except SSAO on normal) I get 35+fps same resolution. Metro2033 and Metro LL I can't play at max res (15-20fps) but going to 3840x720 I get 30+fps again everything on max. You can check my 3D Surround Gallery site (3dsurroundgaming.com) to see this. Bear in mind that FRAPS was also recording reducing the performance even more. As for 3X SLI, currently I have no idea but with the state the drivers are in(Basically all the drivers after 314.20 are a mess in many areas) ....I doubt adding a 3rd card will get you significant boost in performance.... I hope it helps you,

I run 3 670's and while i dont run 3 screens anymore, i used to run 3 Asus VG278HE monitors in 3D at 6020x1080p up until about 5 months ago. The main reason i grabbed my third was the occasional dips i saw at that resolution. I didnt get the massive frame rate jump i did going from 1 to 2 cards but i got no fps drops at all. I would say adding a third card maybe gave me around a 20-25% fps boost. I would say a average of anywhere from 10-20fps depending on the game. The real benefit was the steady frame rate though. Honestly if you have the money and dont mind spending it go for a third card. But you dont exactly need the third card unless your really trying to run games at the highest settings and that 10-20fps means alot to you. Only reason i dont run 3 screens anymore is the res and 3D requirments are just to high to pull it off unless you want to go 3 way SLI titans or something. I remember trying to play crysis 3 and far cry 3 and it was unplayable. It ends up just up being a game of cat and mouse trying to keep up. I honestly just got tired of throwing money at my screen. Now i own one 3D monitor, one 2560x1440p monitor and a 85in projector. While i miss my three screens i dont miss the aggravation of trying to find settings to get games to run smoothly. But now im just ranting...lol

This thread is kind of old now. So drivers might have upped the performance and alot of recent games are listed. But heres some benches i did when i had my 3 monitor setup. Maybe it will help answer your question. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?high=&m=1648224&mpage=1#1648867 EDIT: Just realized those benches were from when i had 2 cards. I never updated it when i got my third because there wasnt enough interest in 3D on the evga forums. So i didnt bother. I will leave the link there though. lol

If you want to read a whole bunch of data on Metro Last Light 680x3, I ran some benchmarks etc. following post #26 here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/491394/3d-vision/3d-vision-with-3way-sli-is-it-fixed-/post/3825482/#3825482 At the time, I was using the then current (and maybe still now) whql drivers.

Like Neal0790 said, adding a 3rd card will not give a huge benefit. Really sorry that you don't use 3D Surround anymore. Personally I would chose 3D Surround ANY DAY instead of cheesy pumped up graphics and stuff like that... wider FOV and depth (stereo) adds ALOT more to immersion than SSAO or MSAA does in 2D on a normal screen or Tessellation will ever do...But I guess is all about taste:) He did point out ONE important thing though....Adding the 3rd card will help you with STUTTERING (or some fps drops here and there) for a more fluid fps overall. But again that is also driver related;) I think the best way would be to experiment....somehow:) I would take 2SLI see how it goes. then take a 3rd card make some tests..and If I don't like it...return the card;))

I just personally got frustrated on not being able to play the newest and greatest games until a surround fix/sli fix was released. Since at that res and in 3D every single frame counts. Once you play on 3 screens its hard to go to one when a new game is released to get better performance. So i kind of just gave up on it. Im actually in the process of looking into buying 2 more 720p 3D projectors for 3D surround though. Ive seen a few people on wsgf build massive curved screens and its really got me interested in trying it out. Right now i got an 85in projector and with the depth hack the 3D is way more realistic than my VG278he. Its not as crisp, but i can crank the depth and convergence way up. I think it would be pretty great to have 3D surround on a 250" curved screen. Plus being at 720p it would have plenty of horse power to run it compared to my monitors. It was kind of funny i was yapping about it to my gf the other day and showing her some videos of the setups people have. The whole time thinking to myself she would tell me i was crazy. I was actually pretty shocked when she was all for it and told me she would help build the screen. Shes not really a gamer, but i looked at her and was like "i think your the one". lol

If only I would have the "wall" for that:)) Funny, it was actually my girl-friend (now my wife for some time;)) ) that actually bought me my 1st 3D monitor back in 2009 when 3D Vision was launched and it was she who supported me throughout the years with my maddening 3D and Surround desires (as any other desires regarding computers and computer graphics). ..SO I defo understand how you feel...and she is not a gamer...I still beg her from time to time to play a game with me:)))) Funny..but there are women who understand us men (that we are still children with more expensive toys :))) )

Personally I would chose 3D Surround ANY DAY instead of cheesy pumped up graphics and stuff like that... wider FOV and depth (stereo) adds ALOT more to immersion than SSAO or MSAA does in 2D on a normal screen or Tessellation will ever do...But I guess is all about taste:)

He did point out ONE important thing though....Adding the 3rd card will help you with STUTTERING (or some fps drops here and there) for a more fluid fps overall. But again that is also driver related;)

I think the best way would be to experiment....somehow:) I would take 2SLI see how it goes. then take a 3rd card make some tests..and If I don't like it...return the card;))

I agree on 3D surround being great dont get me wrong.

Shes not really a gamer, but i looked at her and was like "i think your the one". lol

3x 3D projectors is living the dream right there.

Agree! If only I would have the "wall" for that:))
Funny, it was actually my girl-friend (now my wife for some time;)) ) that actually bought me my 1st 3D monitor back in 2009 when 3D Vision was launched and it was she who supported me throughout the years with my maddening 3D and Surround desires (as any other desires regarding computers and computer graphics).
..SO I defo understand how you feel...and she is not a gamer...I still beg her from time to time to play a game with me:)))) Funny..but there are women who understand us men (that we are still children with more expensive toys :))) )

1x Palit RTX 2080Ti Pro Gaming OC(watercooled and overclocked to hell)

So im going to try to achieve the same thing. He doesnt game in 3D but i can only imagine what it would look like. I havent quiet figured out how to build the screen yet. But im a determined man, so if there is a way i will figure it out. lol

^http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/8-491-1 LOL WOW. Its amazing how I remember things... this is his build. I was actually looking at it before. He does game in 3D, maybe not always. TBH, I think thats too much of a curve. Like its amazing in theory and projectors practically have no ghosting but viewing angles on side projectors may be an issue. Also it really forces you into sitting in a certain spot which seems a bit too close for the best 3d effect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=W-ukYHRZxdw No "lines" make projectors seem amazing..... but I know it would be such a headache for myself/person on a budget. Lamps on a single projector are honestly cheap at least on 720p models but 3 seriously add up.. Not to mention dead pixel.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DS3XAIBkKA

Looks like theirs alot of reading material there. Building the screen is the only thing im really curious about. Seems like there are many ways to do it. But i cant image it would cost to much if i looked around. I saw one guy who built it out of plywood and it cost him about $100 to make his setup between wood and paint. I think it just comes down to being craative/handy. It is kind of expensive for the projectors but i think in the end it would be worth it. Pretty much the same price of 3 27" 3D monitors. I already own one projector and can get 2 more for about $800-1000. Depending on where i look. I just need to hunt down some Acer h5360's since acer doesnt sell them anymore. I know the bulbs are like $120-150 a pop, but they last anywhere from 2000-4000 hours depending on your luck.

Whoops I edited it after you read it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOY2lREuwjU Thats my personal favorite if it helps. I think any "bend" over that is too much.
