X REBIRTH, Holy Shhh!

I just had to turn off SSAO (otherwise right eye was darker than left) and apart from 2D target icons it looks good so far. Ramped up Shader quality to high too. Color me pleasantly surprised so far :)

Steam forum is full of negatives about release. Poor performance, ugly characters, bad textures, horrible voice overs, crashes, arcade-ness of space fights, small fonts.. Didnt expect one of the most anticipated games turns into such disaster

Performance is definately odd. As an example, I get 40fps looking toward a huge multi factory complex and not much better when facing opposite direction into empty space. Looks like CPU bound when lots of things within ship vicinity as opposed to graphical stress. Animation is really poor on characters I have seen so far and facial / skin textures pretty average too. 3D works though :) (apart from 2d icons / targeting as mentioned earlier)

Yes it is odd. I get exactly the same performance (FPS) with 3D vision turned off as I do with it on. And I mean absolutely no change in FPS. This implies a CPU bottleneck, but looking at the cpu graphs shows me underutilized, but my graphics cards being absolutely maxed out (I am SLI 770) - which indicates the opposite i.e. GPU bound. Very odd. Same behaviour with low res settings as with high res settings, though (again indicating cpu bound). Switching from 1080 to 720 has no effect on FPS either. Movement is also a bit stuttery and very blurry (I guess they may have motion blur on that we cant turn off?). I'm not sure what to think if I cant get smooth gameplay with the lowest settings possible at 720p... Also tried runnign the helix debugger. I identified a few shaders for the box markers but the game CTDs within a minute or so of stepping through the shaders, so it migth be a tough job getting it working right now. There is one particular lighting issue I'll try and fix, its very noticable and annoying. We'll see how far I can get.
but my graphics cards being absolutely maxed out (I am SLI 770) -
Got the same GPU rig, two 770 sli, but when i try to launch the game with SLI activated and 3d, it keeps crashing my comp( forced to reboot with button) blackscreen no keyboard access. I'm forced to desactivate sli to activate 3d. but It's just unplayable with 2d indicators and crosshair. Too bad cause the game is 'ok' with convergence tweaked.

Whilst the cockpit looks nice in 3D, I have no perception of 3D outside the cockpit no matter how close I get to structures. I have to set the convergence so high in order to get depth in structures that the cockpit is now gone from view. The performance is very wierd. I can change LOD / View distance as much as I like. When frame rate is below 60 it has almost no effect.

With SSAO turned off I am not seeing any lighting issues though. What lighting issues are you seeing mike_ar69?

Human stereo depth perception only goes out to about 300m i think. After that other things, like size of the object, take over. It realistic not to have stereo depth at those distances. I personally don't like to sacrifice the realism of the of the 3D to create artificial depth, on the other hand, i know some people do.

I tuned convergence a bit more. I am now pretty happy with it. This game looks beautiful to me (well, ignoring npcs that is). I have maxed everything out because it makes very little difference in performance when you drop to the 30s anyway. Still feels smooth even when that low though. Get a bit of stutter when loading distant objects from time to time but 3D is performing nicely. Pleasantly surprised I must say.

EDIT: redundant post by mistake. That's great to hear. Are there outside views? 3D pics if possible pls.
I tuned convergence a bit more. I am now pretty happy with it. That's great to hear. High convergence is possible? (to the point of doll house effect and nothing breaks?) Are there outside views? 3D pics if possible pls. Yeah it's a bit dissapointing performance wise, choppy on a 690. I don't think SLI works for it but I couldn't be arsed finding out at 11pm+, and from reading your guys reports I guess it's cpu for me as well. When I had 3D on the cockpit would disappear, and in stations I'd just get a black screen. But yes adjusting convergence made the 3D quite good from what I saw. And fark are the npc models ugly. Good thing the game is super moddable, I imagine better character models will happen very fast.

Game crashes for me on launch unless I disable 3dvision from the CP.
