Aiming based on 3-D weapon model. Right and left eye camera control.
In modern games they often use a mode of aiming which is based on 3-D weapon model.

So the following problem arises: by taking aim the camera in mono mode is
situated along the weapon’s axis. By switching to the stereo mode right and left
cameras are created along the axis of the initial camera. Thereby the rear sight,
the open sight and the aim point shift sideward and there is no opportunity to take
the aim.

But if it would be possible to shift the main axis sideward or fix the right camera
on the main axis and shift the left camera one to the left, we could take the aim
with the right eye, as they do in the real life.

The question is: How to do this?

I suggest pretty much the same thing as you have. We need to have the ability to offset the right/left eye cameras (or rotate them around the convergence point) so that the dominant eye lines up with the aiming axis. This could be in the form of hotkeys, just like activating the laser sight or turning on/off stereo.

Perhaps we could bind this offset activation to the same key that the game uses for aiming. Ideally, it could even animate into the new offset at a speed we configure, rather than an "instant toggle".

(At worst, maybe we would get used to playing it this way for the whole game, even if you're not aiming? Because of the way convergence works, the effect would be like tilting your head slightly while still looking in the same same direction--I think it would not be very noticable, but I'd have to try it to say for sure!)
