Three New Ideas for 3D Vision See below
  1 / 3
Desktop: What would be cool is if the Nvidia Control Panel let you turn on 3D Mode for the Desktop so that all of the windows and possibly even the wallpaper could be in 3D. Of course, you would have the option to turn it on and off. Windows with the Pop-out effect would actually be pretty cool.

Full 3D Screensavers: Screensavers that supported Nvidia 3D Vision would be epic. Please correct me if we already have those.

Stereoscopic 2D Games: What if you could use 3D Vision for games that only have the X and Y Axis? I think it would be cool.

ULTRA-LATE EDIT: Important Note on Stereoscopic 2D Games: SPRITES! NOT MODELS WITH TEXTURES! GET IT RIGHT, EIGHTBALL! I AM SICK AND TIRED OF RAGE QUITTING IN THE MORNING BECAUSE OF YOU!

Models for production purposes only!
Models will use simple textures, plus bumpmaps, parallax maps, and voxel maps, but the image will be taken with a Stereoscopic Camera. The texture itself will not be stereoscopic, but the iimage to be used as a sprite will. Not stop posting about "3D Textures", or things will get VERY nasty around here!

1. 3d wallpaper and 2d text would not be easy on the eyes...
And I don't think Microsoft will ever make us adjust the windows setting for this ....

2. http://www.solutiong...20Aquarium.html

3. there would be no 3d without a Z Axis...,well.. maybe a sort of 'fake' 3d,and that's not cool .....

1. Someone once used Headtracking to apply a 3D Windowing effect to the Windows Operating System, and it was even working outside of applications. I don't see why Nvidia can't add the option to use 3D Desktops to the 3D Vision Settings Panel.

2...

3. Have you heard of Stereoscopic Images? It wouldn't be a fake 3D, but more of a 3D Effect applied to a 2D program, esentially being 2.5D. I think it is cool. Go look at a bunch of Stereoscopic Images and Videos, and you will see what I am talking about. Also, Nvidia 3D Vision provides both Pop-Out and Depth, which could easliy be applied to things without a Z Axis, if you know how to do it.

Now go attack somebody else's ideas, not mine.

Maybe if they made an app which taken over from the desktop and allowed you to run files folders and settings all in 3D in cool and new ways... A good program to grab headlines I would bet if someone is willing to work on it.

If you don't want your ideas raked over the coals, you need to tell them to your monther, not us. We're going to actually take them seriously and tell you what we think of them.

3D Windows would be long on cool but very, very short on handy. It would look neat but it just wouldn't add anything practical. Unlike games, operating systems put a huge value on practicality. Being able to set your window colors is about as far as it goes when it comes to cool, and hardly anyone even changes those from the default!

3D Screensaver - already done, though I don't think it was on purpose. Anything done in DirectX 9 or later is going to turn the 3D on.

2D games are 2D. What third dimension are you supposed to add? You could take the whole playing field and move it into or out of the screen but that seems pointless. The edges would be odd, too, because there is no world outside of the screen to fill the gap when you push the image left or right.

I said that because I was in a very bad mood at the time, mainly because of trolls on the countless other forums I joined.

Easy, just don't make every sprite stereoscopic. And there are always Parralax Backgrounds, Foregrounds, and Multi-layered sprites.

And with 3D Vision, there are also depth effects (Pop-Out isn't the only kind of Stereoscopic 3D)

"Stereoscopic 2D Games" I don't think you understand the meaning of 2d....

2D means flat..,no parralel background or 3D sprites...,but maybe I know what you want...,do you know the game Trine ?
Straight forward platform game ,that looks great with 3dvision,just doesn't look like a platform game anymore...
But still, that game is build in 3D just not stereoscopic 3D,like every game thsese days...

I think it would be incredibly awesome if '3D Ready' actually meant that and future driver releases don't break older features unnecessarily, seemingly random and ignored for several more releases till they get resolve (if ever). :)

1. There is a 3D desktop which can work in 3D vision. It does not run well. Crashes sometimes. During installation, it installs some undesirable extras. I wont link to it from here since I dont approve it. Search for it on this forum and use at your own risk.

2. I love this Nvidia train screensaver. Looks perfect in 3D. nice music too.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/cool_stuff.html#/screensavers/1051

3. 2D games are 2D. If the 2D game contains any 3D (or stereoscopic) information, then it's not actually a 2D game. If you think non-stereo 2D images can look good in 3D, then convert some regular, non-stereo 2D images to 3D and post them on this forum and show us how good they look in 3D vision.

I keep telling you that you don't have to convert non-stereoscopic images into stereoscopic ones. Just make the game support both Stereoscopic and Non-Stereoscopic Images. And since all games support Non-Stereoscopic Images, you only really need to work on the Stereoscopic Image Support. Now stop saying "Go convert regular Non-Stereoscopic Images to 3D" and start listening.

Are you suggesting that 2D game developers should create stereo 2D images of all their regular 2D images? That is extra work for them.
All 2D PC games will need moding or patching to replace normal 2D images with stereo 2D images. Not something 3D vision can do by itself.

Are there any 2D PC games that contain any stereo 2D images? Perhaps you should ask a 2D PC game developer to include 2D stereo images in their next 2D PC game. Later, ask nvidia to work on supporting that PC game.

How many times do I have to tell you? You don't have to make all of them Stereoscopic Images, just make a few. There are Stereoscopic Image Files, and Non-Stereoscopic Image Files. The Nvidia 3D Vision will only apply the 3D Effect to 3D Games and Stereoscopic Images (that includes Videos, as they consist of a series of images that display one after another). Now do you understand? I am sick and tired of having to treat people like they are idiots. I explained the same thing at least 7 times in this thread, give or take anywhere from 1 to 3 posts.
