Convergence is a huge factor

Oh not sure if it interest anyone but I use tridef's movie player. Where you can set the convergence in movies just dropping it as an fyi.

Its a nice feature since movies are generally set at low convergence because of peoples lack of tolerance*eye strain/headaches*
You can download a free tridef trial.

Are we talking Blu-Ray playback? I'll be looking for a good 3D Blu-ray player eventually.

*shrug*Then again your average 3d vision user never comes to forum so probably doesnt even know of it.

Your right most 3d vision users will never come to this forum and will most probably never know about it. That is unless nvidia better incorporates convergence into the nvidia settings menu so that the end user is forced to see it and plays with the setting out of curiosity.

Its not good when it "seems" as though the users care more about the successfulness of a product than the companies department in charge of it. I just hope nvidia didn't assign an uninspired team for 3d vision.

Thanks for you help guys. I am also wondering is there a way to save convergence and depth settings as a profile so I don't have to change the settings each time with a different game? BTW to Libertine I thought the convergence hot key was not working until I realized you got to hold it a few seconds to notice the change ctrl+F6 for a few seconds and to the OP wow what a huge difference convergence makes to the experience. I thought the default settings were good but this changes the game to a next level
You can hit Ctrl-F7 to save your convergence settings for a particular game. This saves your settings along with a few others to \\documents\nvstereoscopic.log. What I've found is that convergence does save and load reliably but depth is still determined globally between games, so you will have to remember or re-adjust that between different games if you use different depth settings.

Chiz, do you by chance know in which registry the value for depth is held. The thing is that one can run regedit silently and execute a regkey. I'm having the following idea - you know that you want to run Skyrim at 75% depth, so you export the separation reg key with that value. Then you make a bat file, which executes this key and then Skyrim and you make a shortcut for that bat file and launch the game through that shortcut. In this way every time you launch a game it will remember the specific separation level you wanted to use with this game. It is a bit of a hassle, but it beats remembering and readjusting the separation for each individual game. Ideally it would have been great if game specific separation was added to game profiles the way AA, AF and other settings are, but this has to be done by Nvidia.

Currently I am using a similar trick to force separation at 150% by launching a monitor size regkey. Sadly one has to alt+tab while in the game and then run the registry, otherwise I would have added a wait between running the game and executing the regkey.

Well they certainly ARE working on 3D Vision. We just got a bunch more profiles in the latest drivers and that whole Lightboost thing didn't just fall out of a tree. It's simply that not much is happening with the control panel interface. It's hard to say why from where we're standing. Do they not have anybody around that can work on that? Or maybe they could change it but just don't want to for some reason?

Oh well, it doesn't really matter. Either way we want to see it change.

Everyone who's played using the iz3d drivers knows that they enable setting up to 3 profiles with independent separation and convergence settings and changing them on the fly, something that is obviously too complicated for Nvidia's programmers. Now imagine being able to set one profile for your gameplay and a separate for the cut-scenes and how easy it would be to switch back and forth when something doesn't feel right.
I've had Nvidia 3D Vision for over 2 years now and have been wondering the same thing. How hard can it be to simply make a few profiles that you can switch between whenever the perspective in the game changes. I played STWOR online and it was ridiculous that I had to change the covergence setting back and forth, back and forth every 30 seconds or so after a cutscene ended, and then shortly thereafter a new one began. When I'm playing WOW I like to close in on my toon while flying and create "popout", but keep the camera zoomed out while fighting stuff; this yet again leads me to "Manually" having to change the settings every minute or so. They NEED TO FIX THIS. I don't even use NVIDIA 3DVISION at all anymore because of this. I'd rather play 120fps w/o 3d until Nvidia makes user profile settings that can be changed on the fly.

It's harder than that. Two profiles would NOT cut it in SWToR. Even if there were several, there's no way the driver would know which to use. I suppose NVIDIA could set up half a dozen hotkeys and let you try to swap them but then you would be spending all your time trying to figure out which profile to use for which camera insted of, you know, paying attention to the dialog that's happening. You're going to need the game's cooperation to do this right. Given that SWToR still doesn't have a profile at all, I really doubt that will happen.

I agree there are numerous profiles that would be needed for SWToR to be "perfect", but the option for at least 6 saved hot-keys would indeed make the gaming experience better imo. Although I don't play SWToR anymore (stupid WOW); I remember there being only a couple perspectives in cut-scenes that were most often used. An example of saved settings could look something like this:

F1 - Close-up "Battle"
F2 - Zoomed-out "Battle"
F3 - Close-up "Cut-scene"
F4 - Medium-ranged "Cut-scene"
F5 - Zoomed-out "Cut-scene"
F6 - Perhaps close up "Mount" settings with altered convergence and depth to create that popout feel with the touch of a button.

I use numerous hotkeys and keybindings for games like WOW all the time and see no difficulty in quickly clicking the associated keyboard button as soon as the cut-scene occurs or changes. SO, yeah I could still pay attention and enjoy SWToR to greater effect if Nvidia had these options available. In fact, I would enjoy all games in 3d better if I had the option to make my own configs. How to make it happen, of course, is all up to the engineers and personnel behind Nvidia, and I have no idea driver wise or time wise how hard that would be. :)

I doubt they will do it. They dont even allow convergence unless you specially assign it. I think this would work though IF you don't mind the manual labor(I personally go low convergence high depth almost always). go into nvidia's 3d vision folder in registry find the values you want to set to set to each key. (go into registry and look at the swtor convergence profile, find what you want and click save profile. Write down value). Assign the macro to work when you press whatever key(like f1). When you press f1, whatever key you use to disable 3d vision is pressed. Change profile to new value. Then it presses whatever key to reenable 3d vision. Flicker should probably be like a milisecond if you work out the timing.

Registry profiles are here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs

@artox
use this instead to force higher depth.
Open notepad copy paste this. (change value 100 (50" tv...value is doubled) like if you use a 24" monitor and want 50% more depth use 18" which would be value 36)

@Echo Off
set _loops=0
:start
@REG ADD "HKLM\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D" /v MonitorSize /t REG_DWORD /d 100 /f
set /a _loops +=1
if %_loops%==10000 goto end
goto start
:end

save as whatever.bat
Click then go play game.
