Star Wars the Old Republic
  1 / 2
Hi,

I'm currently testing star wars the old republic beta version with 3D vision and i've got a good news for the 3d vision fans : it works perfectly.

For me the 3D is on the same level as Dragon age origin.

The game itself is very good and i recommand it to Star Wars fans and MMORG players.

If your are interested i've taken several ingame 3D screenshots and i can share them.

Interesting, they are almost all from dialogs! Heheh, I remember the orange twi'lek guy. He talks much like the scientist companion in Mass Effect 2.

The shots look pretty good to me, though there's quite a bit of popout. When there's text in front/back of the popout it's very distracting.

It looks like you've already got four or five folks checking the pictures out and they have only been up for a few minutes so, by all means, keep going!

(And, of course, this gives me an excuse to link to my own list: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/Zloth/album/4ec70366378501d2400000a8
Oh, and I see Myth has posted a few, though he's being a slacker and not categorizing them: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/myth/album/0 )

P.S. You can turn off the interface with alt-Z. Handy for screenshotting.

There are some seriously major anomalies with lighting effects, usually present in building interiors. This, combined with 2d nameplates and 2d mouse cursor (it's things like that which give people 3d headaches, not proper 3d, technically, proper 3d is more natural), makes it near unplayable in 3D for me. Other than that, most effects are decent, would be some pretty minor work to add those things as 3D compatible, but somehow I doubt they will.

Hope you guys make your voices heard over on their forums and submit those problems as bugs if you haven't already.

SWTOR doesn't work with passive 3D monitors yet. I've submitted a bug ticket, and hopefully it gets better.

For the 2d names and mouse cursor i agree but for lightning effects i didn't notice (but i've disabled dynamic lightning in the game as in my experience it often doesn't work well with 3d vision). I've played 6 hours in a row friday and 4 hours yesterday and didn't get an headache.

I doubt too that the swtor development team will make change only for the 3d vision crowd but you can submit a ticket in the game and hope.

Dynamic lighting doesn't affect the anomalies, none of the graphics settings do. The weird part is, the anomalies are rendered at the correct depth, just incorrectly rendered, and increasing convergence causes them to push out waaaaay before it should, it's hard to explain, i should have taken some screenshots. And seriously, how hard is it to have 3d nameplates in a day and age like this, damn cheap rendering techniques piss me off. They won't change it I doubt either, and 2d mouse cursor makes it a pain to click anything that isn't UI. No point in submitting any kind of report, because they are obviously not interested whatsoever in 3d vision and have bigger problems to deal with in the month prior to launch.

Today I checked the beta in 3d at my brother's house and I've to say that it looks great, he had names off and it looked to be 'excellent' to me, besides it seems that the game itself is up there to Bioware levels in terms of quests and narrative, so this is a must buy for me.

Easy fix for the nameplates: TURN THEM OFF. Just click on people if you want to know who they are. This will also save you from seeing stupid names like "SkrewJeddeye" wandering around.

For selection: use the tab key. It actually works quite well.

There are lighting anomolies but you shouldn't be seeing them much. I think they've all been indoors.

Oh, and there's a planet in your late 20's that's all pretty dark. The 3D works but it's really not a good place to be wearing your sunglasses.

By the way, there have been quite a good number of people asking how to get 3D working over in the forums. Unfortunately, way more are asking how to get it working in the general/support forums than are asking to get it working better in the feedback forums.

The moment you click an npc or player, you get the 2d nameplate, can't hide that. There are a LOT of the lighting anomalies on the sith/empire side. On buildings and in buildings. Tab targetting sucks if you want to target a specific mob out of 20, and you can barely tell if you have even selected the right one, since it is 2d nameplates.

Just logged off the beta for a bit.. Got the 3d Vision to work perfectly this time.. I think the 3d looks great with the exception of the names and mouse cursor at wrong depth. Don't think there will be a fix for that though.. I think I can live with it.

It would also look better if the sky, buildings, vegetation, players and everything else were not all Brown. I love Brown, bit it's a bit overused in this game.
