Here is what you need (in theory)

1. 3D vision capable PC with stereoscopic player capable of side to side
2. HDMI video capture card
3. Direct TV 3D receiver
4. Gefen HDMI detective with EDID from a new HDMI 1.4 TV

Direct TV receiver won't transmit the 3D signal unless it has the HDMI 1.4 handshake. Thats where the Gefen comes in. If you have an HDMI 1.4 EDID programmed on the Gefen HDMI detective, it will fool the Direct TV box and let it transmit 3D footage...in side to side format.

You capture card and stereoscopic player will take care of the rest...
cool. thats what I figured out. But looks like too much effort to get maybe 1 or 2 programs in 3d. I guess I will invest in a proper 3d tv and AVR when the time comes. For now 3d gaming and 3d bluray is fine by me!!!
