My old ACER H5360 projector is slowly dying of frozen pixels. I have decided to bite the bullet and replace it with an identical projector (or so I thought). What I have actually ordered is an Acer H5350BD, which I now discover is not compatible with the Nvidia 3d play but is in fact a 3dtv play only projector.
Now this is where I start with the idiot questions!
What is 3dtv play and how do I use it?
How does it compare to 3d vision in terms of gaming?
Where can I get a cheap pair of cheap DLP glasses from

By the sounds of it, you went for the slightly later generation HDMI 1.4a version which is compatible with game consoles and bluray players and 3DTV Play but not 3D Vision.
Part exchange that beast!
Good luck

That would depend on your results.
I assume that you own a 3D Vision kit because you would have used it with your old projector.
By plugging in the 3D Vision emittor in a usb port you unlock 3DTV Play which you would otherwise have to pay extra to unlock.
Before returning the product I would recommend that you try 3DTV Play first.
I don't own a projector so I don't have any actual experience.
Both your 3D projectors are probably running 1280x720 resolution.
Both 3D Vision and 3DTV Play maxes out at 60hz per eye at that resolution.
Your biggest problem would be if your projector was not supported at all by nvidia and if that is the case you will either have to replace it or ask Nvidia to add support for it in 3DTV Play.

Thanks to everybody using my assembler it warms my heart.
To have a critical piece of code that everyone can enjoy!
What more can you ask for?
It is supported
Unfortunately you need to use DLP link glasses. DLP Glasses arent all equal Ive bought probably 4 different brands and optoma is by far the best but keep in mind... they are MASSIVE. If you have 3d vision 2 glasses its a downgrade and you may see some ghosting at above 75% depth (in my experience). 3D vision 2 glasses i never have ghosting.

Nah, its lcd technology(like a backlight). But the glasses themselves are real solid especially on DLP. My projector screen is actually brighter then my monitor(which I barely use).
ACER5360 - OPTOMA HD66 are identical and still the best 720p projectors(And best 3D Display imo). I tried them both when my acer got a dead pixel. Personally I agree with your decision and would probably return/ebay that projector and stick with the 5360. TV PLAY is kind of a headache in a lot of situations and if your getting a display just for 3D you should def. avoid it.
HDMI1.4 Projectors are good for Tridef/3D Vision/PS3(since side by side || top and bottom are options) while 1.3's are pretty much just 3d vision but you can stack 3d vision/tridef but that hurts performance though for some reason I tried last week and now its not working *shrug*. Tridef has been a bit downhill lately (no offense to users) so I wouldnt bother with a 1.4 projector.
Long story short, buy a new acer 5360. Take lamp out of the dieing one and use it for a backup. I actually sold my old acer that had a dead pixel for $120.00 without a lamp.

Well if you have the H5360 still, just get the Dr HDMI(EDID Emulator) and read the EDID from it. The Dr. HDMI will allow you to frrely swap between EDIDs to use 3D Vision or 3DTV Play once programmed.
Or if you have no interest in 3DTV Play override the EDID with the one from your old projector.

To my limited brain that sounded like "Blahh blahh Blah 3d vision Blahh blahh"
I really failed to comprehend that.
From what I have read the H5360BD does not have the transmitter to talk to the 3d vision controller so no matter what you do with the firmware its never going to work

Blah blah blah, back at you. Some people you just can't help.
FYI...The 3D Vision emitter is connected via USB to your PC, so why would it need to communicate with some transmitter on the H5360BD?
EDID = Extended Display Information Data
It tells your GPU which display is connected and the capabilities of said display. Such as resolutions, refresh rates, pixel mapping, etc.
So if you override the EDID of the H5360BD with the EDID of the H5360, the H5360BD will be seen as a H5360 and thus allow you to use your Nvidia glasses.
Download Monitor Assest Manager, find the non-active registry entry for the H5360(non actives entries are the displays that are currently not connected, but that have been connected). Using Monifo click save file as EDID. Override with the file you just saved. When doing this, sice you haven't before, disconnect all other displays and have it connected via the HDMI or VGA connection/input that you plan to use.
