At the Virtual Reality exhibit in LA Nvidia is showing a prototype of their vr-glasses in development based on lightfield technology. The company is working together with Stanford university on this project. The glasses make it possible to focus based on any angle in the displayed field.
Well good news, but we all know how Nvidia "supports" their products (hello, 3D Vision!).
So honestly i would prefer VR hardware from another company
I still dont think that Nvidia failed in that department, even if they had continued throwing money after the game devs., it wouldn't have made any difference..
The ones to blame (if any) is the movie industries, it was the 3D movie failure, that made people turning their backs to 3D in general.
Nothing is wrong with Nvidias hardware, it's the best out there, and it's in fact heavily supported by the community, WHO made it a strong product.
There was no doubt in my mind by the time I purchased 3DV, but I also DID like 3D movies !
So I don't think the question is about support when people decide to buy 3DV or not.

the previous prototype was discussed before , but I can't find the posts due to the forum repeatedly timing out.
This is still a few years out, if it isn't vaporware.
the ones that failed were the hardware manufacturers.
The active systems on tv´s were crap and the 24 fps film speed needs interpolation even in 2D
but definetly on 3D. 3D on dual projector with projectors properly capable of interpolation is
so sweet but it´s super expensive. but there could have been better compromises on the hometheater hardware market. That killed the 3D

Yeah. One of the original guys who was working on this went to Oculus quite some time ago too.
25 images to each eye seems like it'd require massive horsepower. Wonder if it can become practical by even Gen 2.
Magic Leap will soon be selling their Near Light Field glasses. They are targeted at creators/developers of AR

It's not really Nvidia's fault, yes they could have managed and marketed 3dvsion better. The blame solely lies on the developers refusing to support the technology and developing their games under best stereoscopic shader practises. Just look at path of Exile for example, until recently it was perfect in 3dvision, and that was without specifically trying at all. (this was straight form the lead dev's mouth) they were just implementing their shader code correctly. To this day it's still the case they just decided to do a stupid thing with their new water "tech.: and make it a 2d image.
