Hi Guys, 1st post on new years day,, ok eager to get it up and running /wallbash.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wallbash:' />

Santa brought me a Projector for Christmas HD & 3D, I have a Linux Ubuntu PC that is dedicated to my Projector
I need to update my card, to get the best out of the Projector
any pointers which card ?, I think Nvidia 460 was mentioned on a review of the projector,

unsure of the actuall way it connects to my motherboard, apparently there are various ways, how do I check this ?

I know I must update the power pack I have a triple core cpu 2 gig ram,

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. /thanks.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thanks:' />

Have a great new year, /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Wow, looks like you are new to the world of computer hardware.

Video cards use a PCIe slot.

Powerpack? Do you mean Power Supply Unit (PSU)? Hard to say if you need a new one as you do not indicate what you have. Depending on your graphics card, you don't need much based on what you bothered to tell us.

Graphics card. HD65 doesn't do 3D unless you have the upgrade installed. You need 120hz refresh rate. You are only going to get a resolution of 1280 X 720 (720P) on the projector with PC 3D. Best bang for the buck is probably a GTX 560 Ti.

Thanx Capt, I don't know what you need to know, it wasn't a matter of "if I could be bothered or not", thanx for the heads up re: the "3D unless you have the upgrade"
Power Supply was what I meant, I have 300w at the moment, had a look at Amazon GTX 560 Ti, in stock

linux??? First you need to tell us what operating system? What games or video,if only video? and yes you need a PSU with more watts for a 560ti. Last I knew nvidia 3d only worked with quatro(pro cards$$$$) on linux. Correct me if I am wrong, linux 3d gforce users. A 560ti is not needed for video/pics only.

Hi 3sdjay77, my OS is Lunix 10.04 Lucid Lynx, I have a triple core CPU, 2 gig of Ram, will have a 650w PSU, TB hard drive, I was hoping to be able to (1) watch HD Movies (2)3D Movies.....
I do play the odd game, mostly though it's Video,
My idea was to get Graphics Card then buy the 3D glasses, it's turning out like this idea was wrong, however any pointer in that direction would be appreciated

Thanx
Kind Regards

You may need windows, also 2gb more ram it's cheap. What projector? Gtx 560ti with 650w psu is a good place to start, You know 560ti is more power then needed for non gaming 3d. linux = little to no gaming support.

If you PJ has the 3d firmware your still going to need h5360 .inf file hack to get nvidia software to reconize you PJ as a supported 3d display. As of now HD65 is not supported http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-displays.html. Also you need windows, linux = no 3d with gforce, only quarto. To add to this, can you change refresh rate to 120? HD65 have dlp link?
