Future of 3D Vision Support (Official announcement from NVIDIA)
30 / 42
Nvidia discontinues any driver updates that enable 3D Vision to work, yet VR is essentially stereoscopic as well with a bit of "surround". Why is it so difficult to implement 3D Vision / VR-hybrid drivers ? Is the legacy code that much for 3D Vision? Is VR built in the game engine itself or do Nvidia etc. have a driver role also?
On another note, I find that although the hardware is getting better and better, 3D Vision and shaderhacks are crippling the performance much more for say 1440p than playing 4k in 2D. The former has 7'168'000 Pixels and 4K even more, 8'294'400 and still, Skyrim SE is running faster on 4K than on 2X 1440p. So shaderhacks are insanely great to get games at least 3D-playable but the method is crippling the performance more than simply halfing the FPS due to pixel count. Maybe one day VR and 3D will be natively supported by the game engine, as it may be for ray-tracing etc. Hope dies last.

It is assumed that Nvidia thinks that it will not make money with Nvidia 3D vision in favor of the RV, but Nvidia does not have any specific RV hardware. Then there is no longer monitors or TVs that come with 3D and only the Nintendo 3DS subsists in the 3D world.
Nvidia does not believe that he is aware that his glasses are the best there are for games. I have even seen movies in 3D and they are far from the 3D of the games since it is not a true 3D in the movies because they come out flat in 2D and in the games everything is under 3D.
The RV and the 3D should be compatible and that people choose in which system they prefer to play.
But again I insist ... Nvidia has bet on RTX and that requires many resources as we see. Even with the RTX 2080 Ti you can not play in 4K at 60fps with the RTX to the maximum.
I understand that with the RTX the game in 2D is better, but I'm sure that any worker or even boss of NVIDIA would prefer to play the Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 3D to 1080P without RTX than in 4K with RTX by pure sense common since neither the 4K nor the RTX give you the depth or sense of realism that can provide you playing in 3D with Nvidia 3D Vision 2.0 glasses
It is common sense and the true truth!
Nvidia what should do is continue supporting the RV but also get their new glasses NVIDIA 3D VISION 3.0 and continue to support 3D and not to leave 3D users who are more than 500,000 abandoned to our fate.
They should be more sensitive and more concerned about most of us that thanks to their 3D we had never thought of buying an AMD / ATI card
NVIDIA you should reconsider!!!

Can't believe this! I think the RTX 2080 Ti was my last graphics card from Nvidia. Now that they abandon 3D vision I can look for other companies products.
The whole "let 3D die"-campaign (3D-TV, 3D vision...) is so stupid! Let VR die too and play flat 2D games only like in stone age...

Did anyone actually try to install the latest drivers to confirm 3D Vision really does vanish?
The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views ... which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

Yup don't have a reason to buy another Nvidia GPU, and to think I put two RTX 2080 tis in this thing.

Yeah, I also lost 3D Vision functionality after updating to 430.39
Maybe someone can figure out a way to just install the 3D vision drivers separately on the newer drivers, I would assume that's possible.

sad news for me...
I would also like to find a possible way to install 3D vision drivers separately, before going back to the previous version definitely every time I need to play 3D.

For those unaware, VorpX Stereofies modern and old games, both Properly and with CM mode option, and allows you to play them in VR with full head tracking support, including head tilting, bobbing, etc.
Absolutely Charming fellow, isn't he?... :)
Certainly, a smart individual who I still have respect for intellectually, but perhaps someone to be weary of in a social and business setting when considering discussing advice, collaborations, partnerships, or competing products. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can't stand the Vorpx developers arrogance and anti consumer friendly attitude. Requesting anything that he doesn't like gets a terse response and his explanations are as if he is infallible. He does not seem to understand that entertainment in gaming is subjective and the fun that we have is often a personal experience. He could benefit from listening to the user base and adding features even if he thinks they are wrong.
I am hoping some other software comes to the table that features the kind of things that us 3D Vision users are use to. I have used VorpX for awhile and I think it is somewhat incomplete since the 3D implementation is hit and miss. There are limitations on depth, 3D strength and a lack of multiple convergence settings on profiles on a per game basis. If there is an official VorpX game profile, you are locked out of the shader authoring tool. There is no way to have multiple profiles for exe that have the same name which for obvious reasons create a conflict. You can sometimes get around it by renaming the exe which does not always work. This method is more of a hack. I don't use the Direct VR feature since it doesn't always work and when it does, it just lacks the 3D impact that I enjoy. I prefer customizing all profiles to my personal preference and don't like the recommended settings. I've had the best experiences with a strong 3D setting and FOV game hack (120-140) depending on game in immersive mode with a custom resolution of 3840x2160@60Hz providing there are no shader issues. It is hit and miss.
Other than these complaints, the software is ok and you can have some fun with it providing you can accept some of the short comings.
It really could be an awesome piece of software if he could just implement some extended 3D customizing.

Well it seems to me that you want a plug and play solution that's all en-composing. The shortcomings have been discussed before, so no idea why he is acting so surprised that it isn't all that and a bag of chips.

I am aware of this and his list does have profiles from others including contributions from myself. Profiles have also been uploaded where the shader authoring tool has been used to get the most out of some specific games. He has done the lion share of testing and uploading profiles.
I'll agree that Vorpx is not complete shit. I've had some fun with it but as I mentioned before, it just has some short comings.
Thanks D-Man11 for the Universal VR Driver information, I will check from time to time.

I almost wonder if it was the Wip from bo3b that he shared with someone several weeks back.
If it's not, two is better than one :P
Edit: it was suggested that it was an April Fool's Joke. Which may be possible, but RJ8 is a long time poster and whatever I downloaded, looked legit but I have no way to test it and it's not mine to share.

Update: I tried installing the 3D Vision driver from an earlier version (425.31), and the installation succeeded, but it showed an error message after that, saying that there was a version mismatch between the graphics driver and the 3D vision driver.
Playing with it a little bit, I could pinpoint that the files "nvSCPAPI.dll" and "nvSCPAPI64.dll", located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision" are responsible for verifying the driver version.
I then installed driver 425.31, uninstalled the 3D Vision driver that came with it, and installed the one from 419.67. The same version mismatch error appeared, but when I replaced the aforementioned files from version 425.31, 3D vision started working. So, I'm basically running version 199.67 of 3D Vision on driver 425.31.
If Nvidia didn't change another thing in their drivers, other than the just removal of the 3D Vision Drivers, then it could be possible to change those 2 .dll files to match the newer 430.39 driver.
Although I think that's unlikely to be true, since that would make the removal of 3D Vision support an arbitrary thing from Nvidia, with no benefits for them, I'm still trying to test that possibility.

I started buyng Nvidia GPUs and kept buying them because of 3d vision and 3d TV play...
If that doesn't exist anymore,i'm going back to AMD...
I feel betrayed.
