Upside down glasses
  1 / 3
Hi,

Is there ever likely to be an option to invert L-R to R-L and vice-versa? Please please make it so.

I downloaded a free stereoscopic video player which has this option, and my avermedia tv software (which I use to watch sky 3d) has the same option as well.

My projector is 3d-vision supported, but I'm using it via a VGA cable so it's picked up as a generic CRT device. I suspect it's due to this that I have to wear the glasses upside down for 3d to work. If I go via HDMI it's fine.

I realise I don't know exactly how this works, but there MUST be a setting or value or inf file or reg key or something somewhere that controls this??
Can I use a custom inf file (monitor driver) to get round this? I've seen what I think are timing values in the inf files but I don't understand what they mean.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Russell.

Many have asked Andrew to implement eye reversal in 3D drivers for exactly the reason/reasons you give. His response is that he will make sure that this feature is *never* implemented in any Nvidia software. He gives no explanation for denying us this feature.

If that's so, then Andrew, as Nvidia customers would you care to humour us with a technical or business reason why this is the case?

I'm using the VGA input because amongst other things, the projector remembers individual image settings for each input, so I can use this input for 120Hz 3D vision and the HDMI for my Sky Satellite receiver, with the colours etc. adjusted appropriately.

I've spent a lot of money on a Viewsonic PJD6531w (3d vision certified), an ASUS VG236 (3d vision certified), emitter and 2 pairs of Nvidia 3d vision glasses (Obviously 3d Vision Certified) and 2 GTX470's (....), so it's not like I'm after something for nothing, as I've clearly bought into Nvidia.

So why have I got to wear my glasses upside down? Why do all the other stereoscopic apps, even the free ones, seem to have this functionality, but Nvidia, masters of all that is 3d are unable or unwilling to do this?

There is no reason to have a left / right eye switch. Our driver should recognize the display and make it work in the correct way.

When you are testing a display that isnt officially supported and have issues, we cannot fix it.

We need to figure out why your projector is not recognized. What driver are you using?

When your running the wizard to set up 3D Vision, it has you identify which eye is which, using the green shape for the left eye and the blue triangle for the right or what have you. Couldn't you just switch it there if you had to?

No. If you report the opposite of what you see, the program halts and you can't finsih setup. If you could do as you suggest, that would amount to the eye reversal switch everybody wants.

All i know is when a game is reversed and i have to wear glasses for it to look right, alt-tabbing out and bringing it back up to fullscreen usually fixes the issue. I dont know if you're having this problem in a game or not tho.. But Ive had the problem in some games while other ran just fine. I know RE5 was a game i played almost completely with my glasses inverted, because alt-tabbing out wasnt working for some reason. there was another game or two that had the problem, but alt tabbing worked so no big deal. i think it has to do with refresh rate or something of the game somehow...

There is no reason to have a left / right eye switch. Our driver should recognize the display and make it work in the correct way.

I appreciate the reply Andrew.

I can't fault your logic really, as what I'm doing is probably 'hiding' the display from the drivers. In my case I'm using a custom .inf file as a monitor driver, because it's the only way that I can get 1280x800@120Hz from the viewsonic.
You might say that it's viewsonics fault for not advertising this mode via EDID, but the fact remains that your drivers seem to ignore EDID overrides, even though Microsoft deliberately allow you to use custom INF files to create extra display modes.
I'd love it if you could tell me how to get 1280x800@120Hz from this projector and not have to wear my glasses upside down?

Maybe it's not a 'supported' resolution, but clearly the kit can do it so you can probably appreciate the frustration.

Umm, yes you could. You could just include the switch images that people are asking for here.

Well eventually customers are going to migrate to the iz3D driver and use AMD cards, where you are able to swap the eyes if you want to.

I suspect what NVidia is trying to do is make the whole 3D Stereo thing plug and play.
Hey they even disable the hot keys for convergence by default.

It's a fine vision.....But given years after launch people still have issues with inverted L/R and some with obvious USB emitter timing issues, it seems to me you'want to provide work arounds for these. Even if you just bury them in the registry for more advanced users to find.

If you are experiencing left/right eye sync problems, please give me all of the details and I will try to get them fixed. We really want to make this a seamless experience and swapping eyes isnt always the best solution.
