Is GTA 4 3D ready?

Does GTA4 have any kind of profile yet? It still comes up as an unknown application.

No it doesn't, but having a profile wouldn't fix the shadows and water anyway, R* would have to do that, and I doubt there's much incentive for them to do that now.

Sure, but the shadows aren't the only problem. It would be nice if we could experiment on our own.

I'm saying you're misunderstanding what the profiles do, I'm pretty sure they can't fix water/shadows at the wrong depth, Rockstar would have to do that. So getting a profile would just mean you had that text telling you to turn off shadows, and that water was at the wrong depth, and we already know that.

I know... what a deal! I went ahead and picked up another since I sold my old one to my step dad way back when after being frustrated with the performance and lack of AA, but for that price, and considering the patches, it is a steal.

so. new graphics generation, new drivers, 3d vision surround and still GTA4 is not playable in 3d because the shadows render at screen depth.

didn't nvidia tell us they were working with the developers. the last GTA4 patch changed how the shadows are rendered but the problem remains. this is very disappointing.

the strangest thing is that GTA4 is in the 3d vision surround list so why no profile in 258.69:

The gta 4 shadow problem is a known issue, also the 2d crosshair. I don't think it will ever get fixed.

I turn the shadows off, the game still looks awesome without it. Especially with the EnB series mod with AA support. No jaggies ;) also download the yamaha R1Z and lambourgini Reventon mods, there really worth it. Finally a bike that can go up to 280 km p hour.

The game really rocks in S3D, i almost play it every day. No missions, just cruising around in S3D ;)

Yep just turn off the shadows, 90% of the problems solved. There's still some issues with silhouettes around water from the post-processing, turning down water quality would probably help that as well but I didn't bother tweaking it. GTA4 looks great in S3D, definitely a great sense of speed and scope driving around.

Curious what hardware you're running the ENB mod on and at what res (SS'd), and what kind of FPS are you getting? I tried it with 280s in SLI about a year ago at 3840x2400 downsampled to 1920x1200 but it didn't run acceptably for me, like 15-20FPS or so. I have yet to try it on my 480s with the larger framebuffer, bandwidth and additional horsepower though.

ENB does not work with the latest patch.

I think without shadows the game does look horrible, it is really sad to not be able to play the game in S3D without it looking like a 5 year old game. this way this technology will be dead again like 10 years ago.
