Sony Vegas Pro & Power Director 10 Issues primarily with Vegas
  2 / 3
Hey there Andrew,

Here's what happens when going from the single editing screen and trying to open up the secondary screen with Vegas Pro 11, Build 425.

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=wGd3fY-SdZ4

Note that no matter which monitor you pick in the VPro software to have as your output/secondary monitor, either #1 or #2, only monitor #1 will be used as the active 3d output monitor.

Here's what happens with one monitor.

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=bwXo8iH-71s

Driver: 285.62
GTX480 X 3
Not in sli
Win 7 Pro/64/sp1

Let me know if you want me to send you a DxDiag file or anything.

Nothing crashes, the signal just isn't making to the screen correctly.

Here's the vid clip itself on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMOcJlavVQQ

Taken with Sony TD10, extracted from cam and uploaded to youtube via Sony PMB. All Sony...

If someone wants the clip, I have it here.

As soon as all this is reviewed, I'm going to remove it all.

Thanks,
Dan

P.S. I haven't heard a peep from Sony on my open ticket on this, and will go back to them and reference this thread.

No, it does not. I installed the latest 290 Beta and all it gave me (in Vegas full screen 3D preview) was a black screen and the usual message.

Going back to 270.71 made everything working again.

It is clear that NVIDIA has removed this functionality in their post 270 drivers because we are not their target market. Gamers are.

I cannot believe that I am saying this because I have always been pushing NVIDIA on everyone, but for us in the 3D film/video field it is time to look beyond NVIDIA. I think we should seriously start sending requests to Blackmagic Design to design a 3D video card with OpenCL for the use of the film and video industry. They certainly understand our industry well. And all their products are very reasonably priced and, more importantly, they work. And they keep working no matter how many firmware updates they may release.

And since Vegas no longer requires CUDA but OpenCL, we are no longer bound to this secret and highly proprietary technology from NVIDA. One thing is sure, the moment Blackmagic Design comes up with an OpenCL 3D video card, I will drop NVIDIA and never look back.

Of course, NVIDIA will continue to lead in the game market and that is fine. OpenCL has made it possible to make video cards specialized for different markets. So, the next step in evolution is for different companies to branch out into the video market aimed toward their specialties.

Same problem here.

I'm testing the Asus VG278H 120Hz 3D monitor with a Geforce GTX460 but I can get S3D preview in Vegas only with Developers Drivers v270.81 or the new v285.86 (from CUDA Toolkit 4.1), with standard drivers or latest v290.53 Beta I can get only a Blank preview and a message that Vegas isn't a certified application.

I have a Dual Monitor config where VG278H is the primary display and an HP LP2475W is the secondary, on the first one I send the external preview (2D and S3D) and on the second one I have Vegas timeline, trimmer, preview window and toolbars.
With v285.86 Developer drivers all works nicely but each time I click the mouse on Vegas Gui (e.g. on timeline) the external preview suddely turn off, so I can operate on Vegas timeline only using keyboard.

I tried also STEREOSCOPIC PLAYER from 3dtv.at to playback at full screen HDR-TD10 footage and I can use mouse on secondary display without any effect on full screen playback on primary display.
It's quite annoying to not be able to use External S3D preview during editing and surely it's not so good to have to use developer driver instead of offical one.

Ciao

fyi, Power Director 10 is ok, Sony still won't work at all with gtx480's (or 580's on a different machine I had it previously installed on). I have an open ticket with Sony and every couple of weeks they say try this and that, but no go. I have current drivers, Asus Extreme, 980x, etc., etc. and all my other 3d stuff works fine, but in my opinion, in regard to using 3d for editing, still a gimmick. What I've learned to do is use the "difference" option to see how the convergence flows. I think this will be a lot better in a couple years with passive, non active - without glasses, screens and programs. Again, in my opinion, this is the first time this came out in 3d for non-quadro cards, so what did I expect?, exactly what I got

Also with latest Developer Nvidia Driver and latest Vegas Pro 11 Build 520/521?

With my GTX460 I can use Vegas also for 3D preview (but with Developer Driver only), the annoying problem is that each time I have full screen 3D preview and I click on 2° monitor, preview stops and I have to click again 2 times External Preview icon.

Also with Vegas Pro 10 and Movie Studio 11 you can have S3D preview, the only limit in VP10 is that there is a problem using S3D preview on single monitor workstation, instead of VP11 where you can use S3D preview with GeForce cards (of course S3D only on primary display) in a dual monitor config.

Just tried with Build 521, nope. I'm not sure what you mean "Developer" Driver, I'm using the latest beta, 290.53. I am pleased to advise that Sony got back to me again today on my ticket and it's going from Customer Support to "QA"...

Hey, they're interested anyway.

I also tried this same Build 521, Driver 290.53 on a 470 via hdmi, exact same issues, which in a way is good.
I'm not sure what you mean "Developer" Driver, I'm using the latest beta, 290.53.
You have to use this driver to have S3D preview with 3D vision to work:

http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-toolkit-41

Go to the section related to your OS (Vista, 7 and 32 or 64bit) and download developer driver v285.86, make a clean installa of this.
I can get 3D vision to work in VP11 only with this type of drivers, with standard Nvidia drivers there's no way to use S3D preview on external monitor.

One more thing that I found.

You have to set your 3D monitor with a 120Hz refresh rate in the Nvidia Control Panel to have S3D preview in Vegas Pro 11, instead of Stereoscopic Player that can activate 3D Vision directly also if the default monitor refresh rate is 60Hz.

Maybe Vegas doesn't communicate correctly with 3D Vision driver if the monitor has not a 120hz refresh rate as active refresh rate.
So you need to change first the monitor refresh rate and open and use 3D vision in Vegas Pro.

After many test with Developer Drivers, today I've re-installed again the v290.53 Beta Driver to check if there is a way to have 3D Vision.

AS usual when I start 3D preview on external monitor I get the message that the application is not rated by Nvidia and I get a black preview.
Anyway I've seen that when I click on Vegas GUI and Ext-Preview turns off as I described above, the 3D led on emitter stays on, so I tried to click with left mouse button directly on monitor 1 (3D) and then press CTRL+ALT+INS to remove Nvidia alert, then I've clicked Ext-Preview icon on Preview window.

Now, finally, I can get 3D vision to work with Vegas Pro without any alert!!!
The only thing to do is to set monitor at 120Hz and make previous steps to remove Nvidia message.

But I have to say that with Developer Drivers preview speed in 3D and, specially, sync with Shutter Glasses seems to work better than latest Beta driver.

I hope this could be useful.

Ya, I've got the 120hz etc down, I just decided about 6 months ago, if I have to fiddle for umpteen hours to have a quirky result, I pretty much now just move on... Got this from Sony today:

Hi,

Thank you for writing back. Our QA team clarified our 3D support which should show why your card is not working. Basically, you have a Geforce GTX 480, and it's our understanding that 3D preview -only- works on the primary monitor with Geforce cards. Secondary display preview requires a Quadro card with quad-buffered OpenGL support.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and let me know if you have any other questions.

If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.

I purchased an Asus GX74 -3D Laptop with a Geforce 560 card in it in Nov. I am also having problems viewing the 3d video editing in Vegas Pro 11 using clips from my Sony TD-10 3D camcorder on the one and only monitor(screen).I have tried the different drivers mention in this thread.

Any other suggestions? Thanks
