It's not really an option for any mode. Maybe when G-Sync monitors come out, but until then, you can't do both on an LCD screen (due to the way the screen is drawn).
The one good thing about playing in 3D Vision (shutter glasses), is at least with the convergence cranked up, you can see really far into the screen. This makes it look MUCH bigger vs the 2D mode.

My first 3D Vision monitor has pivot mode but as all other TN monitors it's not great but indeed possible. I was refering to using my Dell 24" IPS in pivot or my ASUS VG278H in 3D.

Doing both (3D Vision Discovery mode) is not a decent option.
