Yes...using same HDMI for video and audio for this testing. I try several stuff, but the HDMI output in the video card is the one sending stereo... the 3DTV pass the signal to the Receiver....it works with the Bluray (video + Audio 7.1 in the same HDMI) I'm almost sure i need an EDID to tell the video card that it can send 5.1 Surround, my 3DTV pass to the Receiver. Here you can read insteresting stuff... ManuelGuzman explain about the EDID. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/481638/cant-get-5-1-audio-over-hdmi/

The problem is not the EDID itself in your case. Is the actual TV. It cannot passtrough over SPDIF a 5.1 PCM signal. From What I know no TV on the market can do it. There is also bandwidth limitation of SPDIF. 5.1 PCM is way higher bandwidth than Toslink capability. The TV should decode and convert the signal (5.1 PCM sound provided by the game) to 5.1 Dolby Digital but it doesn't know how. For Blu-ray the sound is already compressed and sent as digital (stereo) signal so your TV just passes it trough and the Receiver decodes it. You didn't specify. Does you receiver have HDMI Input?

OK:( The Dolby Digital decoder can only decode the type audio that Blu-ray send (loosy). More infor here http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/5-1-surround-audio-passthrough "PCM is an uncompressed audio format, which means it will theoretically have the best overall sound quality, as no information has been removed to facilitate transmitting the signal. PCM is sent unencoded by the source, meaning the full, unpacked ‘instructions’ for what sounds to play are sent directly from the source to receiver, and then on to the speakers. "Unfortunately, this makes for a signal that is more difficult to transmit. No TV seems to be able to pass a 5.1 PCM signal through to a sound system, so sending a PCM signal to or from a TV will downgrade the signal to 2.1 (two speakers + one subwoofer), thus eliminating the extra channels necessary for surround sound. PCM 5.1 can work with a receiver that supports the format, so if you want uncompressed sound, you’ll need to forego passing the audio through your TV, and instead output the sound directly from the source (one that outputs PCM 5.1) to the receiver. Note that only HDMI can transmit a 5.1 PCM signal. Digital optical is only capable of transmitting a 2.1 or 2.0 PCM signal." Your only solution in this case is to use Dolby Digital Live or DTS connect. For this you need a Sound card that is capable. Many integrated Realtek HD Audio support this (Ex. Alc889).

Thanks Joker18 for the help!! Indeed i have a Realtek Audio ALC898 that suppose to support DTS connect, but is missing in the Audio setttings (i just update yesterday the audio driver, they release a new version yesterday)....also time ago i try some tweak for enabling.....but nothing seems to work to enabling DTS Connect.

I was in the same situation with an older receiver that did not have HDMI in, and it did not have DTS support. I bought an external USB sound card, the Sound Blaster Omni with Dolby Digital Live support. It has some really nice features built in microphones using CrystalVoice technology (also a microphone jack), Scout Mode allows you to hear your enemies from further away, 600-ohm headphone amplifier and it also has analog connections that can be used Now, that I upgraded my receiver, I re-purposed the Omni for use with my laptop. The UI is user friendly also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3Y940LnY3o

If I understand your problem correctly, this will not help you currently DHR, but it could help others depending on their setup. Their's a hack to unlock additional surround support for Realtek drivers. http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/unlocked-realtek-hd-audio-drivers-with-dolby-digital-live-and-dts-interactive.193148/

Jokers bang on the money. But........ You have 5.1 analogue outputs on your motherboard? You have analogue inputs on your amp? Go that route and it'll work. You can also use powerdvd or some other player to decode DTS MA and Dolby true HD to analogue so your films will sound better as well as surround sound gaming. That's your best bet if you have no hdmi in. You should have 3 analogue outs on your motherboard. One jack is Left and Right One Jack is centre and sub One Jack is surround left and right. Get a mini Jack to whatever the analogue input on your amp is. Set amp to direct mode and Roberts your dads brother. Dont forget to change the Windows settings to 5.1 in sound settings as mentioned earlier.

This is exactly why should stay in the 6-700€ range when buying amplifiers. At that price range you usually get preamp and power amp separation feature so you can input from external decoder.
You have 5.1 analogue outputs on your motherboard? You have analogue inputs on your amp?
Typically the analog inputs on those old receivers are only left/right stereo. Thus it would be a step backwards from the Optical cable option.

That's why I use active speakers used in recording studios. Active speakers have the amps built into the speaker. You can go out of analogues output from your motherboard straight to your speakers. I use a USB audio interface as I use balanced outputs (no ground loops) The DAC's are so much better sound quality and you don't have to upgrade your AVR every time a new audio standard comes out. Powerdvd can decode DTS MA and Dolby true HD. The only thing it won't do is atmos but hopefully they add atmos decoding to analogue in the future. You don't need DTS connect or Dolby digital live anymore in modern games. They have there own built in surround engine and do it all on the CPU.
You don't need DTS connect or Dolby digital live anymore in modern games. It's still dependent on what's used by the developer and what hardware the end user has. Plus the user's settings come into play for any given scenario. There are very few games that are actually true surround as they play through your speakers. It's typically being simulated vs being played in it's proper format. Of course this varies widely from system to system due to sound cards or connection types or Operating System, as well as the game being played. Hence why I went on about some of the differences over the years, it's not a simple answer. The simple answer is to say "don't worry about it, enjoy whatever simulated surround that gets output to you".

Unless you are using Windows XP playing 10+ years old games you don't need DTS connect or Dolby digital live anymore. Please read the link this time, it was obviously not read before, and you'll see the support games have. It must have been 10 years ago since I've played a game that had needed dsp or some codec. It is not needed in modern games anymore Here's the games list showing the audio engines and the surround configurations supported over analogue! http://satsun.org/audio/ Mostly all games use real surround sound. It's not fake or simulated. That's incorrect. Everything joker and I have said in this thread is accurate. Going the analogue route will give you full ( no simulated) surround sound as high a quality as you can get DHR, read this and follow this. Too much misinformation on this thread. This link is accurate and true and should help you setup your system and understand why things work and why things don't....... http://satsun.org/audio/setup.html
