Whats the best 55" 3d TV for 3D Vision 2?
  3 / 3
I would like to add following advice make sure the projector or TV supports HDMI checkerboard this is the closest to 1080P@60 and it hands down beats 1080P@24HZ and HDMI checkerboard is support now I would also make sure you get a device with HDMI 2.0 if NVidia updates 3DTV play then you can use it.

Thanks for everyone's replies. It's much appreciated! It really sucks that I already own a 120 hz Samsung 55", but I can't play games at 120hz.

Another thought crossed my mind. Why not get 3 more VG248QE monitors. Wouldn't I be able to play at 5760X2160 then? Is that even possible with Nvidia cards?

You could probably do it, if you're happy with about 7 frames per second.

Before buying a 3D screen test it with the Rabbit Test. Set your screen to get less crosstalk possible and have the best 3D possible. (See the description on the YouTube page.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqpXQVkiJic

Projector gives an awesome experience, but it really depends upon what is most important to you.

For example, is screen size itself a big deal?
  • Much, much bigger screen with using projector.

  • What about ghosting/crosstalk?
  • Zero ghosting on projector, for real. DLP. No TV or monitor can come close.

  • What about brightness?
  • Projectors are not as bright as TVs.

  • What about color accuracy?
  • Projectors are not known for great accuracy. Still, be sure to calibrate TV or projector.

  • Latency?
  • TVs often introduce latency.

  • Price?
  • Projectors tend to be relatively cheap.

  • Glasses cost for extra pairs?
  • Depends on specific projector and specific TV.

  • Convenience?
  • Projector can require EDID foolishness nowadays.

  • Other factors?

For me personally, I care the most about ghosting and thus the projector is easily the right choice for me. YMMV.

I think I might get a projector to hold me over until more 4k tvs come out next year. I do really like having vivid colors though with skyrim mods and stuff.

Some TV and monitors are quite good in 3D, unfortunly in active 3D you may have to set your screen to low the crosstalk using contrast, gamma, and backlight. Passive 3D is pretty good this days: http://www.hdfever.fr/2014/12/04/test-lg-55ec930v/ This is in french, but the pictures talk by themself. This website use my rabbit, do the same and share it. .

/\ Article says input lag is 55ms. Even assuming that OLED isn't out of the price range of most, that's not exactly a number many would want to game on (assuming it's accurate. 3D seems to add some lag too. So it's adding to any already unacceptable number IMO). Which goes back to the current problem with HDTVs. Between lag and poor performing 3D, it's pretty much impossible to find something that's adequate in both categories.

Note that 60 Hz Desktop would make 3DTV Play around 13 msec (average) faster when using its 1080p24 gaming mode (NOT 24 Hz Desktop). Personally, I prefer full res/frame 1080p24 gaming to any 60 Hz SBS or checkerboard mode gaming - as long as 24 fps is consistent - and the combined control/display lag is acceptable (ideally, below 50 msec). I used 1080p24 for many years with Ignition (it allows 60 Hz Desktop), with low-input lag (around 20 msec) Panasonic VT 25 plasma HDTV. This first gen plasma had less 3D ghosting than its redesigned (thinner) succeeding generations. 3DTV Play's forced 24 Hz Desktop makes its only high res mode unplayable on many HDTVs/UHD TVs.
