What is the red text message that is displayed exactly?

Well perhaps someone else can help but some basic things (you may have already tried): (1) try running setup at 720p, not 1080p (2) does the monitor itself have a config setting that needs to 'turn on' 3D, or lightboost, or whatever? I have the Asus278, but can't remember if I had to do anything to be honest. (3) does the monitor have a driver disk?

What cable are you using to connect the monitor? That monitor should work just fine at 1080p. But I'm pretty sure you have to use Dual Link DVI. If you are using HDMI I would expect this problem. Lightboost doesn't matter for the initial setup, you can set it up after you get 3D working smoothly.

I'm sure you're using the right cable, but it would do exactly as you're describing if you weren't. It would effectively be running at 1080p@60hz and although the game would be rendering in stereo 3D, you'd get the red warning message because 60hz would, in all likelyhood, give you a major headache from being such a low refresh rate. Although if you can go above 60hz refresh rate in the control panel, that pretty much rules that out. You wouldn't be able to choose 120/144hz 2D mode. EDIT: Implying the very off chance somebody used their old DVI cable which wasn't D-DVI.

Yes, be sure to use the cable that came with the monitor. There are lots of variants of DVI that look the same, but are wildly different. The fact that you cannot make it through the setup wizard without reversing the eyes suggests that something is definitely off/broken. When you reverse the eyes by choosing the opposite hexagon/triangle combo, you also reverse the depth on the monitor, kinda of sort of turn it inside out. Stuff that should be deep in the monitor is out, and vice versa. It's not always easy to tell. Anyway, the crux of the problem is that you need to be able to get through the setup wizard with no errors. That monitor is fully supported by the software, so if it says hardware failure using the correct path, I'd suggest you look into that seriously. RMA it if they can't provide a fix.

Hello all, I am having the exact same problem...the only difference is that I have the Nvidia 760. Same monitor. I just got the 3d kit for my birthday today have been having a doozy of a time setting it up. During the setup wizard I had the red warning message, and I always failed if I picked the correct image for each eye. After many attempts I tried guessing "incorrectly" on the image tests, it worked. The rest of the wizard went perfectly fine. Unfortunately, even though games would display in 3d, the red error message still displays. There has to be someone somewhere who has a little more info or tech insight into what might be going on. Not that you haven't been helpful bo3b (in fact, you are the only person who hasn't presumed it was a simple driver error, which it might still be...) but there has to have been some reports of this through the asus QA since it says on it NVIDIA 3D VISION READY. I hope it is something as simple as a driver error or previously changed setting. Come to think of it, I did install the ToastyX lightboost hack. I have subsequently uninstalled it, but perhaps that has something to do with it? Godson, did you install the same thing? Thanks all for any info or suggestions, I really appreciate it! Bedwilly

So you just got it? I'm pretty sure I had the red message error the first time I installed my kit too. It went away after I restarted the computer. It's kind of a long shot, but if you haven't done that yet, I'd give it a shot. Other than a restart or bad cable, it's really hard to come up with scenarios that explain things. It's in all likelyhood bad hardware if these things don't fix it. Reality is, this is supposed to be a pretty simple process.

Another long shot is to fully power off the monitor, and unplug the AC power cord for 30 seconds. That was a fix for another weird problem on an ASUS monitor. Not the same here, but ASUS, and it's easy to try. One last check on the cable- here is a post with detail on what all the DVI variants look like, so you can check to be absolutely certain you are using Dual Link. Yet another long shot, have you tried a clean install of drivers (and deleting the C:\NVIDIA\ temp folder prior to) or perhaps trying an older set of drivers?

EDIT: I just realized this fix is specifically for my monitor, ASUS VG248QE...sorry. So, I had an epic night talking with NVIDIA technicians......no help there. I did a ton of research and tried dozens of different fixes. One of them FINALLY worked. It solved both the red message coming up, and it solved the eyes being swapped. Here is the post that did it for me: http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Strobelight-LightBoost-Utility-for-AMD-ATI-and-NVIDIA?page=20 The relevant post is about halfway down, the question is asked by Wolrajh, and the answer is further down by ToastyX. It DOES involve downloading an application that will make custom drivers but it was incredibly easy to install. There is a link to the CRU application (which is thoroughly discussed elsewhere on this website) which was super simple to install. I am not tech savvy, but this was an easy immediate fix that helped me out. I hope this works for others.
