GTA IV - Episodes from Liberty City looks good in 3D?
1 / 8
Hi all,
I've created this topic to talk about this just released awesome game. I think many here in this forum are fans of Grand Theft Auto so I would like know your first impressions playing the game in 3D.
I've just bought it in Steam and the price is quite good, only 22 dollars. Anyway it's the whole Liberty City map with new missions and 16 gigabytes to download.
I haven't played GTA IV in 3D, actually it was the last game I played in 2D before going 3D. So, I really don't know what to expect from this game in 3D. I heard it was playable in 3D but it had a few issues. As this game is supose to be an extension who knows if it's going to be the same support or maybe a better one for 3D Vision.
I'm downloading the game through Steam as I type this message, hopefully I'll be able to run a few tests at night. I guess this new 1.25 driver doesn't have a profile for the game as it does not mention anytthing about it.
Leave your comments whoever play this awesome game.

Mate, I cannot believe you havent tried GTA4. It is my showpiece 3rd person game (HL2 with cinematic texture mod being my FPS). You have to turn the shadows OFF but fortunately all the cars seem to have a shadow benieth them so they look cool.
Dude youneed to have serious words with yourself for not S3D GTA4! /argue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':argue:' />

Thanks mate, but have you tried GTA IV Episodes from Liberty City in 3D or just the original GTA IV???
I heard about the shadow bug in 3D, that you have to turn it off, but thta's the original game, I wanna now about the extension thar was released yesterday.
I guess you are a big fan of GTA, so you probally gonna play the extension. Let's share some opinions and thoughts here about how the game looks in 3D and what settings we can tweak to make it even better as there's not a 3D profile for the game just yet.
I've played to many games in 3D since I bought 3D Vision and I didn't ply GTA IV in 3D cause I was tired of the game already. I spent more than 3 months just having fun playing this game in 2D, using mods and doing all kinds of crap... It was a lot of fun... I'm really happy that GTA IV Extension is now available for PC and I can finally play it with 3D Vision.
I've been playing Just Cause 2 in 3D these days a lot and the game is just perfect in 3D in all senses, it's gorgeous, just awesome. In 2D is just another simple game, but in 3D it actually gains life. I just hope this new GTA IV extension had a 3d support like that, that would be crazy...
Just Cause 2 feels like a mix of GTA IV and Crysis somehow...

Episodes from Liberty City runs and looks exactly like GTA IV in S3D. They are the exact same game, but with modifications by Rockstar. Whatever changes the new patch made it has had no effect on performance for me. I get a steady 60 FPS in 2D, but average about 30 in S3D. Makes it kinda un-enjoyable when I dip into the mid-20's, but the game rocks in S3D so I live with it. Aside from turning off the shadows and the performance hit (and the annoying aliasing) there's the ghosting when you get near water. It would also be nice if the crosshair was at the right depth, though, I haven't tried the NVidia one yet. But, all in all both GTA IV and it's DLC are a great S3D experience even without a profile. It would be nice if the GTA IV series would finally have a profile(s) and possibly help with the remaining issues, but it certainly doesn't look like that will be happening. I honestly believe the S3D imperfections with this game can be fixed rather easily by Rockstar, but I don't think they have the desire to for this small community of S3D fanatics. It's a shame...

I wasnt very constructive, was I. Nice one BryanK! How long did it take to complete the DLC? Also can you use the xLiveless mod with it? I need that because Windows Live squeezes my CPU and I need all the FPS I can get!

Xliveless Mod what's that??? There's already mods for this just released game??
You guys said something about a patch, this game has a patch already?? Anyway I'm running this game through Steam so I should not worry about this as Steam installs all the patches available.
I guess you guys are somehow familiar with the DLC, you probally played it in the Xbox, cause the PC version just came out this week.
So the only thing I should worry with 3D Vision and this game is turning off Shadow, is that right??? Shadows at low settings don't do any good??
I have 2 GTX 280 in SLI and I'm not sure iif this game is SLI compatible. GTA IV always showed me the same FPS average with SLI enabled and disable, so I guess I should expect the same for this DLC. Its a shame, cause GTA IV is heavy already and with 3D it's gonna kill the FPS. I guess It doesn't matter if I use SLI enabled.
the GTA IV DLC is as long as the original one, I mean the single player campaign??? I'm really curious about this game.
It's gonna be fun playing this DLC and Just Cause 2, they look similar a lot and both are good to play with 360 joy.
Finally I hope the DLC is more stable than the original game. I had terrible crashes with the original GTA IV until patch 3 came up.
I'm pretty sure that won't be a 3D profile, Rockstar only focus on consoles...

Thanks for the info buddy, but 12% depth is ridiculous, it's almost not 3D, it feels a little bit flat. I will try to use at least 35 or 40% and a bit of convergence if possible and turn off shadows.
I can no longer play any game in 3D with depth level lower tahn 30% it just don't work for me. I'm used to play most games in 3D with 70 to 80% depth. I play only a few games with 40 or 50%. I love convergence and I know sometimes you have to use lower depth in order to use convergence, but 12% is to little.
That's why I love 3D Ready games, all this tweaking to get a good 3D effect sucks, it's a hassle..

Gotta agree, playing without depth is like playing without 3D for me, I'd rather turn off some effects and have a lot of depth.

I liked the way that Avatar (the game) did the setup for 3D, in the options menu it asked for your screen size and how far away you sat from it. It also allowed you to choose the depth setting from within the game. Afaik thats the only game that does that, but more developers need to take note and copy that approach. ESPECIALLY if a game does not allow for convergence adjustments manually (lookin' at you Resident Evil 5). In all reality that should be something that is handled by the drivers as a part of 3D Vision setup, it should ask screen size, distance to screen, and have some sort of test so that you can choose a depth you feel comfortable with. Then it should automatically apply to every game with a profile so that every game looks perfect for each person, regardless of their screen size, how far away they sit, or how much depth they like.
If Nvidia is really serious about 3D going mainstream, they need to implement a similar system asap!

It's not about Nvidia taking 3D to mainstream, it's about the future. There's no turning back anymore, 3D is now mature, it's the present and the future. There's not a chance that 3D won't go mainstream, off course it will. Not this year, but maybe next year or for sure the folowing year. It might take some time, but eventually 3D will take over and change the way we watch TV, movies and play games. 3D is the next big thing since colour TV. Whoever doesn't see that way is either blind or stupid.
I do agree that 3D vision needs a lot of tweaking to get even better this next months, but going mainstream is the future and Nvidia knows that. 3D will take over once consoles such as PS3 become S3D capable. It's just a matter of time.

I heard about the shadow bug in 3D, that you have to turn it off, but thta's the original game, I wanna now about the extension thar was released yesterday.

I wasnt very constructive, was I. Nice one BryanK! How long did it take to complete the DLC? Also can you use the xLiveless mod with it? I need that because Windows Live squeezes my CPU and I need all the FPS I can get!

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I hate having to disable anything to get S3D to work, so I use the above method for GTAIV and it looks great ^

If Nvidia is really serious about 3D going mainstream, they need to implement a similar system asap!

I do agree that 3D vision needs a lot of tweaking to get even better this next months, but going mainstream is the future and Nvidia knows that. 3D will take over once consoles such as PS3 become S3D capable. It's just a matter of time.
