3D Vision / Samsung HL67A510 DLP Users - need your help
1 / 2
Hi All,
We are in process of improving our 3D Vision support on Samsung DLPs and need assistance from the community to improve the quality of 3D.
Currently NVIDIA has been improving quality and has found that some Samsung DLPs show strong ghosting of magenta, blue and red objects when playing a game with 3D Vision in 1920x1080 resolution. If you are using a Samsung HL 67A510 please performe the following tests.

Run a the NVIDIA Stereosocpic 3D test application at 1920x1080 with 3D Vision enabled and check if you see ghosting of magenta, blue and red objects with your 3D Vision glasses on.

Run a the NVIDIA Stereosocpic 3D test application at 1920x1080 with 3D Vision enabled and check the black areas to see if you see a red glow or its black. To compare stereoscopic 3D on vs. off you need to swich 3D from the menu of the Samsung DLP Menu, do not use the 3D Vision toggle button.

Hello there!, I'm new and posting here for the first time. I have got the Nvidia 3D vision glasses and am using them on a Samsung HL 61A750 DLP (which is 61", 3D-ready, LED version) and there is the ghosting effect most strongly on the letters in the test image as they pass though the magenta area. The parts of the frame which are coloured magenta are also strongly ghosted.
Farcry 2 which came with the video card is great, but again heavy ghosting of the clouds in the sky in the game intro/jeep ride. Also the Medusa 3D demo did not work in 3D under any settings I tried, something is wrong there with Nvidia's download since I have everything set up correctly.
Other than that I think the glasses are great. I decided to build this system when I saw the glasses come out, I worked in a virtual reality lab for several years and just had to have them since I already had the DLP. It was a great excuse to put together a new gaming pc, I got tired of trying to game on my mac that I use for my work. The glasses are the best I've seen but way too expensive, I'll buy 4 more when they are more reasonable, like 50 dollars each. Until then there won't be much group watching of anything at our house I'm afraid.
The firmware version of the DLP is 1006.1, if that makes a difference. I'm using the latest Nvision drivers (180.22?) downloaded from Nvidia's website.
Well there you go, I hope the ghosting is fixable, and please come out with a extra glasses pack at a more affordable price!

if you force the geforce drivers to reduced blanking mode, ghosting ist completly gone!
BTW If your driver team would bugfix the custom resolution part of the driver it would be possible to set reduced blanking mode again without the trick i found out:
By ending contol-panel process after the error msg that reduced blanking could not be set it was still possible to use the mode, because it was set and only had gone if you clicked ok.
So to get rid of the ghosting with samsung change the driver that it uses reduced blanking mode or better find out why ghosting is gone in this mode.
If you´ll find a way to get rid of the overscan problems in every resolution, that would be great.
I am happy that u are listening to the S3D community now :)

Hi Andrew,
I'm using a Samsung HL61A750 as well. It works great!! It took me a while to figure out how to setup the screen to make it run best
In picture options make LED Backlit MINIMUM and also I turn Contrast Ratio on High
I use standard mode and put Picture in "Wide PC" mode. (please not in order to set picture to "Wide PC" you must be at resolution other than native 1080 P. Once you change it you can go through the different resolutions and the t.v. will see this mode.
I experience minimul ghosting and my experience has been great!
I called Nvidia about this T.V. before I purchased it and in Tier2 "Manuel" helped by looking into this T.V. They said there is a slight "Red Tint", which is correct. There is a small red tint only around the edges where screen is not completly filled. This is not a big issue. I beleive that gaming in 3d on this T.V. is a great experience and also the picture quality on a Backlit Led DLP on the Samsung looks far superior to the picture quality of a Lamp DLP display. I believe that if Nvidia will post Samsung as "Supported Display", you WILL get more customers and you will have happy customers. I thank Nvidia for all the help and research they do. People often get upset that there current displays won't show this 3d Technology. I have spent over $2,000.00 for this setup and that's what it costs. A Compatible display, a very well capable GPU (I have 295 GTX), Windows Vista (I had to upgrade from XP), and to better run everything a Quad Core Processor. (I also had to upgrade this as well)
Any way sorry about all this information.... It works well with all the different resolutions. In 1080P it cuts off a little of the screen. To me this is not a big deal because you still see almost everything and when it's in this mode it eliminates any "Red Tint" around the edges.
I hope this helps!!! Thank you

It´s very easy to get rid of ghosting with the sammy dlps completly.
So here is how to make it possible:
- open nvidia controlpanel
- click on custom resolutions
- click on create
- click on advanced options
- from dropdown choose cvt - reduced blanking
- click on test
Most driver revisions are buggy in this part, if you got an error msg, reduced blanking mode is active until you click ok to close the error msg window.
If you are one of the lucky ones whose test didn´t end with this "wrong error msg", your settings will be saved for your resolution.
If you got the error msg you can still use reduced blanking mode if you don´t close the error msg or if you cntrl+alt+del and end nvidia contol panel process this way.
If reduced blanking mode is active there is absolutly no ghosting (none high contrast problems nor extreme color ones).
I am now 10 years S3D enthusiast since ELSA put their great revelator and S3D-Drivers on the market. This TV-Set is the best way to enjoy stereo3d i had until now, because its flicker free, ghosting free, big screen, pageflipped and full hd and very compatible for other software solutions.

Ok you are right it´s not so easy ;) I hoped that it could help you to solve the ghosting problems in one of your next driver revisions.
I am not so technician, so i don´t realy understand why reduced blanking modes timings are better than normal timings fot the samsung dlps , but i am sure u are, so maybe this info could be helpfull for you and your team :)

Hello Andrew,
The 61A750 DLP by samsung cannot be put into 3D mode unless it is receiving a 1920x1080 resolution signal. Just to verify, I used the medusa configuration utility to set the mode to 1280by1024 and I did not get any 3D effect from either the basic medusa or medusa 3D applications, although the transmitter led was bright green. My suspicion is the medusa 3D app doesn't work on any DLPs in 3D if 1920x1080 resolution is not supported.
I also tried the Custom Resolution - CVT-reducing blanking tip mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but to no avail. When I hit the test button to try the cvt - reducing blanking I get an error, and whether I leave the dialog up and don't press 'ok' or not, I still get the same ghosting effects during the jeep ride in Farcry 2.
Any other ideas? I'm going to read the knowledge base link a bit more in the meantime...

Hello Andrew,
I have just recently received my HL61A750 along with the Geforce 3D Vision kit. Let me first say that the experience with this combo is absolutely phenomenal and is probably the best consumer attainable solution to date. I qualify that statement with "consumer attainable" because I have worked in a CAVE at my university, and not much beats that :). This is the first consumer product that has made me go "Wow this is freaking amazing!!" at first use.
Anyway, the one downside I have noticed is a red tint that is brightest in the center of my screen and sprawls across the entire screen. It is not really visible in bright areas but starts becoming a little distracting in dark areas. It looks like the following screenshot:
I really hope that you guys find a solution to this problem, because that is the only problem this combo has. If you need any further information or tests performed, I will be happy to carry them out for you.

For the A750 TV, is there any reason why some older games like Fable: the lost chapter, F.E.A.R., Painkiller, or Elder Scroll3: Morrowind won't work in stereo3d, and instead, showing a red warning message of Warning: High VBI Fail to set, Stereo3d is temporarily disabled!?
Newer games like BioShock, and Elder Scroll 4 Oblivion do work for me on this TV in stereo3d though (also FarCry 1 works too in my recent test)... as we discussed in another thread here http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtop...mp;#entry511613
I am running in Vista64, with 8800GT card on my HL61A750 3d DLP tv

In detailed picture options you must make led backlight minimum!!!! If you do this it helps with the glare and the whole screen looks right!!!! /thumbup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Joseph

if you force the geforce drivers to reduced blanking mode, ghosting ist completly gone!

Hi right now please make sure you operated in 1280x1024 mode at this is properly supported. Please give that a try and let me know. The URL for more info is the Knowledge base I posted in the first posting.

Hi Andrew,
I'm using a Samsung HL61A750 as well.
Thank you

Thanks again!
Joseph

I also tried the Custom Resolution - CVT-reducing blanking tip mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but to no avail. When I hit the test button to try the cvt - reducing blanking I get an error, and whether I leave the dialog up and don't press 'ok' or not, I still get the same ghosting effects during the jeep ride in Farcry 2.
Any other ideas? I'm going to read the knowledge base link a bit more in the meantime...
Thanks again!
Joseph

~thx for listening

Jackie

In detailed picture options you must make led backlight minimum!!!! If you do this it helps with the glare and the whole screen looks right!!!!
