Everquest II and 3d Vision Request for help / advice
Hi all,

I play EQ2 from time to time, and was quite happy with its stereo-3d functionality up until December 2011 when the devs removed shaders 3 from the game leaving only shader 1 model. At present if I switch 3d on, I have really weird double ghosting around player characters (see screenshot attached). I have tried changing everything in the options menu, but no matter what I do, the ghosting persists. SoE tech support reps were not able to help me as they claim to have no hardware to test s3d on (?!).

I was wondering if anyone here on forums can confirm that this issue occurs with their set-up as well (EQ2 is ftp now so you can log on to your account even if you dont have a sub), or it's a problem on my end. Any advice will be appeciated.

I use the latest beta drivers (today's release), but the problem is present with older drivers as well.

Thx in advance,

I am getting the exact same issue. I just got 3dvision, so I cannot confirm proper behavior prior to the reversion to shaders 1.

I am very annoyed about the issue for sure, since EQ2 is in every other way one of the best 3d games I have ever seen. The water effects, shadows, sky, hardware cursor at depth of the object, floaty names at PROPER depth, etc...

But this shader issue makes it unplayable.

Have you since had any luck with what settings need to be turned off to make this issue go away? Are there settings for this?

I notice it only happens to actors that are very close to the screen, as you walk away from an npc, the shading on them goes away and they render fine again. It is hard to see in your screenshot, but the game is currently rendering FOUR models for the player character. The usual two solid ones (in your screen they are right on top of each other because you are at screen depth), and two ghostly ones to the outside of the other two.

Yes, I found that if I move the slider on "complex shader distance" all the way to the left to -1, and disable shadows, the issue goes away. However, the game becomes darker and less attractive, especially in darker indoor locations
