Do all 120Hz G-Sync monitors support 3D Vision?

A Nvidia employee that I was chatting with via PM, stated as much last May. " Gsync/3DV go hand in hand now, so anything that supports Gsync natively supports 3DV." if supporting the appropriate refresh rate. But this was prior to 4K@120Hz displays being available, so we can only hope that they also work. I had been trying to get them to update the "official" 3D Vision monitor list, which I was told that they would look into. But I guess that was too much to ask, because they still haven't updated it.

Hm, still no official statement then. The 3D Vision kit is quite expensive to buy if I'm not sure it's supported. I'm on a 165Hz G-Sync monitor, so if it's true it should work, but if it's not then I would waste €180... So not buying. Hopefully NVidia will provide some official info soon.

Well FFS, post your model number. You're obviously not talking about that SyncMaster in your signature.
Well FFS, post your model number. You're obviously not talking about that SyncMaster in your signature.
Yeah, sorry about that. The forum doesn't allow me to edit my signature. I get an "Invalid access attempt" error when I try and go to my profile settings. Anyway, I'm using a ViewSonic XG2703-GS, which is 165Hz G-Sync but is not sold as a 3D Vision compatible monitor. There is no mention of "3D Vision" in the specs or on ViewSonic's product page.

hmm, it would be nice if it does indeed work with 3D Vision. Looking around, I'm not seeing any yays or nays about 3D Vision compatibility. Tough call, it's feasible that it might be officially supported, but if by chance that it's not, it possible that it may work by using an EDID override from a supported monitor.

This monitor (ViewSonic XG2703-GS) has an IPS panel. So it should not be compatible to 3D Vision - at least as far as I know no IPS monitor supports 3D Vision.

Would be pretty cool if any 120hz ips monitor would support 3D. I would say it's worth trying it. (normally you can send your order back to the online shop within 2 weeks and refund the money)

well... any 120hz monitor/projector SHOULD be supported by 3D vision with *NO BUTS*. simply there is no reason from customers or technical point of view from being otherwise. customer wants to run it? well LET HIM. but maybe NVIDIA is leaning toward Apple's policies customers open you eyes please.

Strobe backlight is a must for brighter image not for stereo capability. First generation 3DV monitors didn't have strobe backlighting.
Strobe backlight is a must for brighter image not for stereo capability. First generation 3DV monitors didn't have strobe backlighting.
Oh, I didn't know that. I assumed that without strobing, crosstalk (and not low brightness) would completely prevent 3D Vision from working with LCD displays. Since LCDs are "sample and hold", viewing anything in 3D would be a really bad experience due to LCD pixel transition time. You'd see part of the left image with your right eye and vice versa.

I very much doubt that it has that capacity. If you happen to live near another forum user, maybe they'd let you bring the monitor over to test.
I very much doubt that it has that capacity. I live on a remote island, so I don't think anyone here is near me though :-) I'm not exactly in a "can't wait" state to get 3D Vision. It's just an interesting gadget I might get later on. It's weird that no one has actually tried doing this yet. I suppose it's because most people get monitors with built-in IR transmitters and don't have the full kit, only the glasses.
