Future of 3D Vision Support (Official announcement from NVIDIA)
4 / 42
Surley is The saddest day of the year after my grandmother death :(
I fell in love with 3D vision gaming 2 years ago when I bought my 65” oled.
I was so amazed so I bought another 55” as a backup,
As time went by I bought 2 stereo camera: the Fuji w3 and pair of Samsung nx1000 and took 3D pictures of my family which looked amazing on the tv. I really fell in love with everything related to 3D.
now I think is the time to buy 2080ti before later cards won’t support 3D vision anymore.
I knew all this time that judgement day is near and my biggest hobby ever is in danger of extinction.
Now the day arrived and I really hope our wonderful guys: DSS, DHR, bo3d, Helifax and many more will work on alternatives.
Of course I will financially support any effort in this area.

Pauldusler's numbers and estimates appear to be consistent with helix web site usage information bo3b shared a while back in a VR discussion thread, I think (search his very informative postings). Unfortunately, this is a small community, with limited resources, and no ability to tell the world how great 3D Vision has become. The limited and shrinking hardware support for 3D has also limited growth in this user community - with some of the new interest in 3D Vision coming through the VR realm.
By the way, high resolution autostereoscopic displays (glasses free 3D), especially multi-viewer setups, are still MANY years away, and consumer interest would have to be demonstrated. We are already seeing significant resolution/FOV improvements in HMDs first, driven by business use (with $6K HMDs like XTAL and VR-1), not consumer use.

I wouldn't assume that there are more than 2000 people left. I guess this number based on the user number of 3D Fix Manager which is around 700.
For example I don't use 3D Fix Manager because I prefer to do everything manually to get a better understanding how things work underneath. I know that my friend who has 3D Vision also doesn't use it. I appreciate your effort with it and absolutely don't have anything against it, but I think overall it's just not as well known as helixmod fixes. And even people who know about it like me not always use it.
I don't expect everyone to use it. But it gives a rough indication. Assuming that there were 100.000 people left using 3D Vision and only 700 were using 3DFM that would be really strange considering the time and quality which went into this application (then I surely would have wasted my time lol ;D). But I expect the user number would be surely at over 30-40k at least then.

wow, I'm so disgusted... I'm totally frustrated by Mr. Huang and Klett attitudes with previous exchange I had a while ago, remember I posted about it?
Let's hope Avatar 2 will bring back 3D.
Mr. Cameron, do you read me?
P.S. Current 419.35 still have 3D Vision driver.
After removing the 3D Vision driver from Quadro cards I surely knew that it was the next logical step that Nvidia would do the same for Geforce drivers.
I just can't fathom why they the entirely dropped support. Stereoscopic imaging is used in the medical, science, oil, gas, etc... industries. Plus many other things, like product design.
Of course Microsoft has stereoscopic support built into dx9, 10, 11 and 12. We see this when games offer native stereoscopic support.
So I guess that Drs and Scientists viewing molecules or brain matter are going to need to stay on this driver as well or rewrite their existing apps. Or do Quadro users need to use an even older driver? Of course VR is in use, in some instances, but it has it's own drawbacks/practicality.

As long as 418 doesnt break from a forced windows 10 update we should be good. I'm sure Nvidia will at least continue to maintain and update the driver as needed.

Only until April 2020 when Nvidia will stop all updates. Also what about support for future titles, graphics cards etc?

Personally, I'll dedicate a 1 TB SSD to Windows 7 and a 1080ti, then run a XB272 (whenever I can actually afford it) off those. I'm not giving up 3d vision anytime soon - and just ordered a second kit, just in case.

They explicitly state that "those who wish to continue to utilize 3D Vision can continue to use the 418 driver"
Nvidia is a great company.. what that tells me is that the 418 driver will continue to be maintained... it might not be updated to work with the next generation of cards etc, but maybe they will come out with a new iteration of 3D vision by then. Either way, I honestly think we'll be fine... Nvidia is a huge company.. if the announcment says "those who wish to continue to use 3D vision can continue to use the 418 driver, then I think we can rest assured that they will have our backs.. and will make sure we're good to go. It may not work with whatever they're coming out with in the next few years...but by then we might even have a new 3D vision that is better, and I'm sure we'll continue to have basic gaming functionality with the 418 driver and everything we have now.

As it is very likely that some people don't read the announcement of Nvidia, update their graphics drivers and wonder why 3D isn't working any more I'll at least add a driver version check in 3D Fix Manager. So if people have updated the graphics driver and try to enable 3D via 3DFM they will see a dialog window that they have to use an old driver version. Maybe I also add direct download links for the last known driver which worked with 3D Vision (418.xy). So people don't have to search for them.

I sincerely hope you are right. Thank you for your optimism. Hopefully when avatar 2 releases we will see an increased consumer and commercial interest in 3d.

I wouldn't say I'm being optimistic...I'm just going on what they are saying. When have they ever said we can continue to use an old driver? In this case they are saying we can continue to use the 418 driver, so that tells me they know what is going on, and that this is a special situation, and that they have the situation handled. If they say we can continue to use 418, then w'ere set.
