Unfortunately Sony has moved back the date previously stated for availability in US a bit from end of October to early November:
[/quote]
Maybe, maybe not. Early preorders received an email this past Monday citing a revised October 28th ship date. The slight November delay on the site could just refer to new orders, suggesting the first shipment was either presold out or the warehouse has too many advance orders to process new ones in a timelier manner. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if November 4th comes and goes with no communications or orders being shipped (presells included), this is a really haphazard "Launch". The device is already available though, Harrod's in London has been selling them for several days.

@Andrew, out of curiosity: what is there to do for NVIDIA in terms of 'adding support'? As far as I understand, the glasses are HDMI 1.4a compliant and are supposed to work with the PS3, as do all of Sony's 3D TVs that are supported by 3DTV Play, so what is there to implement in terms of support? If they take the same input (I would guess frame-packed 720p @50 or 60fps according to HDMI 1.4 specifications?) as something that's already supported, what is there left to do for NVIDIA?
I don't mean to imply that there's anything wrong here, I'm just genuinely curious about what I'm not getting here - I thought the whole point of having a standard like HDMI 1.4 with mandatory 3D formats was to avoid a situation like this, where every possible piece of hardware needs to explicitly support every other piece, so what's going on here?
@reallink: Unfortunately, Harrod's in London only has one unit on display, but no stock and won't be getting any for at least another two weeks - I called yesterday and asked them about this. On an ominous note, not only has the US release date been pushed back from 10/26 to (presently) 11/4, when I called the NY flagship store yesterday they were quick to point out that this might be pushed back further (although they could not yet say by how much) and that the whole thing seemed a bit up in the air at the moment... Additionally, the German Sony site, which had been accepting preorders with a mid-December shipping date for over a month, is now listing the device as "unavailable" without any option of preordering, so who knows what's going on here...
Between these sorts of things and the fact that Battlefield 3 was always announced as being 3D Vision Ready only for the support to now be suspended without even an ETA, it's pretty easy to see why 3D technology isn't taking the mass market by storm... if everyone from the HDMI standard founders (apparently HDMI 1.4 is useless as a standard if individual drivers and support need to be built for everything) to the software manufacturers (from DICE to NVIDIA, who just can't deliver what they promised) to the hardware manufacturers (Sony, who apparently can't deliver the HMD) drops the ball simultaneously, it's not going to go over well with consumers.
That being said, I can't wait to actually try the damn thing once it's available and supported! :)

Thanks for the clarification on Harrod's ds. Most in other regions have been operating under the assumption the units were actually available for sale--especially given the new stories and blog posts stating as much. Folks have been puzzled as to why no one had bought one and posted any impressions, now it seems we know why.
Nvidia have to add "support" because 3DTVPlay is mostly just a device EDID white list. They do this, I presume, to justify the $40 software and reduce their work load (compatibility testing/issues, customer service/support, etc...) As you note, there doesn't seem to be any technical reason reason behind it beyond their own artificial pay wall. One would think "free" 3DTV support would be a great incentive to buy Nvidia hardware over ATI/AMD, but apparently not. It is very much a reversal to see consoles being more "open" than PC's in this regard.

Worst case scenario I'll import one from Japan, I'll get one no doubt.
About 3d overall, even though 3d is not pushing tvs as much as everyone hoped, still I thing it's doing fine, the amount of officially supported games this year has been quite a few more than last year and almost all the big sellers have support either from release or with patches, nintendo 3ds is selling really well after the price cut, movies are still doing fine but people now want quality content (see transformers 3), just the cool 3d effect doesn't cut it anymore. The big problem with 3d gaming is that it's hard to believe how it looks like until you try it and that's neither easy nor cheap task. Overall I think 3d is maturing, but in the end only time will tell.

I completely agree - I explicitly decided on NVIDIA over ATI/AMD because of 3D Vision supporting HDMI 1.4 and Battlefield 3 (for instance) supporting NVIDIA 3D Vision; how bad a joke would that be if it turned out that it was working fine with ATI/AMD (over at the TriDef Forums there's apparently already a working Profile for Battlefield 3 for TriDef) and HDMI 1.4 on the HMZ-T1 but - despite NVIDIA charging $40 for 3DTVPlay and announcing the game to be 3D Vision Ready - they couldn't make it work, whereas the third-party competition could! Incidentally, does TriDef HDMI 1.4 output work for NVIDIA as well as long as 3DTVPlay is installed? I know it's not officially supported but believe I read somewhere that it supposedly works...
Btw, I remember reading somewhere that there was a somewhat complicated but feasible way of manually adding devices to the EDID white list as a user, do I remember that correctly? In that case, am I correct in assuming that we could relatively easily do this ourselves if NVIDIA for whatever reason took quite a while to add support?
I will be calling back the SONY NY Flagship store when they open, they told me to call again on Friday morning for updates on the shipping situation, will post here as soon as I hear from them.
@Andrew: Assuming that 'adding support' indeed only entails adding the device to the white list, surely that means an updated driver (or just the list) would be available pretty much immediately after launch of the device, right?

I don't mean to imply that there's anything wrong here, I'm just genuinely curious about what I'm not getting here - I thought the whole point of having a standard like HDMI 1.4 with mandatory 3D formats was to avoid a situation like this, where every possible piece of hardware needs to explicitly support every other piece, so what's going on here?
