Baby you just make me mad 3d vision certification
  1 / 2
Hi. can I just say how annoyed I am with nvidia, 3d vision and 3d vision certification.
I have a passive 3d TV but recently I needed to upgrade my graphics card, spent a couple hundred to find that my monitor does not have certification.
I believe if I pay a couple of hundred for a graphic card and have a hdmi cable and a 3d TV that when I go home and plug it all in that I should have working 3d.
But not to be a pawn in nvidia trying to leverage money out of TV manufacturers.
I think its time for the consumer/users to put its foot down with nvidia. I’m going to complain to nvidia about this topic. But I need your help. I need all users to complain with me via snail mail, email or forum.
Are you with me!
Thanks

have you tried to download 3DTV play?

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play-overview.html

that allow you to enable 3D Vision on your television using your own television glasses, and play games at 720p 60hz or 1080p 24hz [HDMI restrictions]...

With all due respect, you should not be annoyed with Nvidia. All the information you need for using 3D Vision is on their website, including lists of compatible monitors, TVs and projectors. If you did not read it you should be annoyed with yourself. 3d Vision is a technology that you need to buy. Your post does not make it clear if you have bought the Nvidia 3d vision kit (glasses and IR emitter)? If you have then you get 3D TV Play free with that, but if you did not buy a compatible TV then you might still be out of luck - when I bought my 3D TV I made sure beforehand it was supported. If you have not purchased the 3d kit, then you need to buy 3D TV Play separately, but again your TV needs to be supported. It's all perfectly reasonable, but periodically people post on this forum complaining that 3D TV Play is not free, or it does not work with their TV, or that they feel entitled to free technology that should magically work with everything - that's not the way technology, business or life works. There's a whole other thread recently on just this point.

Nvidia has stated on these forums they do not get a penny from HDTV manufacturers to support 3D Displays. They will support most any 3D HDTV on the market if you send them the EDID info of your display.

Obviously someone has to bear the burden of paying for support for a feature/product, so that ends up being the end-user in the case of 3DTV Play. If you want 3D support its not unreasonable for Nvidia to ask a 1-time fee of $40, imo.

Everyone else who enjoys 3D Vision or 3DTV Play has paid-in for the privilege one way or another, whether its included in the 3D Vision hardware they bought or the software license they purchased, why shouldn't you?

Hi.
On the nvidia`s website the information on passive 3d TV support is non existent . I’ll go back to a point I made earlier you bought a card a lead a monitor plugged them in and you got a picture. I bought a 3d card a lead and a 3d passive monitor but don’t get a 3d picture instead because I not knowingly bought a product that’s new but not supported I now have to pay a taxation and even then it still might not work. im not expecting anything free but I expect products to do what they say on the tin.

On the 3DTV Play side, Nvidia does not discriminate by make/model or output type, the display just needs to be HDMI 1.4 compliant. If your monitor isn't supported its most likely because its so new or there's little demand to support it. Like anything, popularity of a particular product has its advantages, like better support. You can submit your display's info here for support: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2774

There's also other ways to modify the driver to support your display but its quite involved.

As for the rest, welcome to the world of 3D. Even if you had a supported configuration from one solution or another, you'd still run into similar obstacles with support, Nvidia just offers the best supported option available. You're certainly welcome to check out the alternatives if you don't want to work within their supported configurations.

I don't believe you about edid. The main purpose nvidia has for it today is indeed to choose what displays to support.
Information of the display working modes is contained within the edid (which is the purpose of the edid to make displays plug'n'play). Why would nvidia want the edid when the graphiccard easily reads what resolutions and frequencies the display supports?

This is experiemented with years ago with the old legacy stereodrivers. 91.31 stereo supports every mode on every display while using 162.50 requires pinmodding (disbable read of edid) and utter **** to enable other stereomodes than anaglyph.
So believe me: Nvidia are evil!

Stay on focus, this thread is not about edid, or how evil you think Nvidia is, the previous poster mentioned edid in a helpful way to explain something to the OP. The point in this thread is that the OP did absolutely no research on what 3d vision is, has not even bought a 3d vision kit as far as I can tell, and is now complaining that he can't get 3d to work and that he has to pay a measly $40 for 3DTV Play. If you have anything to add to that discussion, please do.

The point of the thread is about plug and play, and taxation.
but you hit the nail on the head, passive 3d rules out the need for emitters and battery powered glass and nvidia dont like that so in came, not supported then a tax.

It is confusing but no-one's tried to deceive you and the fact is that stereoscopic 3d support costs money. You really can't compare it to 2d.
I don't know why you're calling it a tax, from what I understand you still have to pay for the tridef drivers if you buy an AMD card.
3D video card means 3d acceleration, not stereoscopic 3d output from a display device.

Sounds your like your mad you didnt research the product you bought properly before hand

Just because its new doesnt mean its compatible with every exsisting 3D technology out there. Either a sales rep duped you or you didnt put in the research yourself. 3D is such new technology there are several versions competing to take over the market space, which is why i personally decided to invest a smaller PC based sterescopic set up before dropping the money on a brand new tv/projector on technology that wont establish itself for half a decade. Thats like expecting sony to support HDDVDs when they were trying to establish Bluray in the market place.
