The Witcher 2 in 3D Vision Official thread from NVIDIA
8 / 82
To guys at NVIDIA: 3d vision driver, when even turned off from control panel, cuts my FPS to half in a lot of games. This happened in SHIFT 2, which isnt playable in 3D and I said it is ok I can uninstall 3d for a while. But now this happens in Witcher 2 which looks georgeus in 3D and I cant play it in 3D.
WTF? I am very angry at this! I paid all this money for a 3D system and you cut my FPS to half just by installing the drivers? For example my rig can get 60 FPS in witcher 2 in high settings with latest beta driver. Just installing 3d driver cuts it to 30, and using 3D in game cuts it to 15! Are you kidding me? I should sue you for this. Unbelievable!

Haven't tried 3D yet -- just trying to get 2D Vision Surround working. i've got teh res set at 5760 x1080 but it only plays on a single panel? Anyone got this working?

Andrew seriously, has the QA department EVEN tested these drivers?? I mean WTF? 9-15% GPU usage which nets 5 FPS in 3D or 2D?? Uninstalling the 3D Vision Driver ONLY and I have 50% GPU usage which nets me 80 FPS??? This is on a GTX590..... I understant the NOT support for Surround as it is a "limitation" (stupid if you ask me) of the developer.... but THIS?? Are your testers SLEEPING? If so..I will send you my CV and you will get a 20000% better tester than those guys.... I understand is BETA...but this looks like pre-release ALFA stage.....from bad to worst.... after all is an ENGINE..or are we supposed to play this in slideshow pictures..5FPS??? As for CDProject... they should learn from other developers NOT TO IMPOSE limitations on viewport..Jessus... even SOUL REAVER 2 works in 3D surround...now I am stuck (whiled payed 50 Euros) on a game that works on slideshow....As a consumer I Don't care the drivers are at fault since I payed ALOT for this fancy hardware only to get crappy drivers... Are you guys ex-employs of ATI? Since I remember them having problems with drivers...and here I was thinking nVidia is 100% better....
As a software developer, me and my company has a motto..."Don't release something AT ALL if it's not working 100%".
Instead of rushing with this....fiasco...you guys should have waited and provide a REAL update...not some broken "excuse for a driver"...
If I offended somebody I apologize..but I felt the need to say all of this...

First I got to say I'm thankful that The Witcher 2 (TW2) is working with 3D at all, and in this case the driver released right on the game day. Two big plusses and that rarely happens, I do not dare hope for another miracle and I can live with slow FRS right now and pray that one day the game god will grace us with better FRS. The moral ? Don't hope that Nvidia will do anything about it, it is incapable of making any real 3D improvement since 2000. My real hope is with TW2 devs, ie CDPROJEKT. I think our voice better heard on CDprojekt forum.

I don't think the frame rate issue is a hardware problem, but a software problem. This is in regards to the horrible frame rates in some of the indoor areas anyway. During all the attempts to figure out a user workaround for the frame rate issue, I even once set ALL the configuration options to low or disabled, dropped the resolution to 1280x720, and still got the same crappy frame rate with it all turned to high (ubersampling was off in both cases).

You know, I have the same problem as everyone in this thread.
Trouble is, I just got Fable 3, which is a little joke of a game (graphics wise) compared to TW2, and I get the same behavior with the latest betas !
The second I look at some distant scenery I barely get 20 FPS in 2D, 720p, everything on low !
And, exactly the same as TW2, my GPU utilization is like 25%.
I don't know if these 2 issues are related, but it's getting tiresome, as driver issues are preventing me for playing the last 3 games I've bought in a row: Shift 2, Witcher 2 and Fable 3.
Wtf.
And no, uninstalling the 3D vision driver in order to play a 3D vision ready title is not a solution.
edit: this is happening on a GTX 570, 820Mhz Core, 1640Mhz shaders, 2020Mhz memory clocks.

The bottom line is that Nvidia's driver team has been a joke for this game:
1. With 3D on, your FPS drops to 5-10 in any indoor location.
2. With 3D drivers installed, your FPS suffer similarly even in 2D mode.
It's ridiculous for a game where they claimed "3D VISION READY GUYS!"
I don't mind not playing in 3D that much. But to play the game, I can't play any other game in 3D (because those drivers must be uninstalled). That is just retarded.

I think one of the oddest things for me is that Andrew hasn't responded at all to this entire thread that he himself started. He is usually really good at responding to us, but man the only way to even play this "nVidia 3D Vision Ready" game at all is to uninstall the 3D vision driver and play in 2D yet Andrew hasn't commented is just strange. Wonder whats going on.

"3D Vision Ready" seems to mean that the game developers actually handle the 3D (or at least guide it) rather than the drivers themselves going off an NVIDIA profile. It does NOT mean it will work with 3D better than other games.

I am fighting through the areas indoors that have the horrible frame rates, mainly the tavern so far in Act 1, because the game itself is fantastic and the 3D looks awesome, especially in the outdoor environments. I have put in a lot of hours and I am in the middle of Act 1 and barely done anything outside of the town yet.
I wish someone from Nvidia would answer in this thread soon though...

Yo, just thought I would throw this out there. Not trying to brag, but the game runs like butter for me, everywhere. No slow downs at all. Using the new beta drivers as well.

And you notice this a lot of more when 3D Vision is actived.
By the way its again out of the topic but i bet this can help PC player to more enjoy The Witcher 2

Thats exactly the puddles I saw as raised =D They weren't all like that tho, and I haven't noticed anything like that further on in the game yet lol. Thanks for the inverted controller tip, if I feel like using it, I use it inverted so that might come in handy for me =)

WTF? I am very angry at this! I paid all this money for a 3D system and you cut my FPS to half just by installing the drivers? OK, so I got to the temple sequence after out-running the dragon and the FPS drops to an unplayable 5-7, even on low settings. My GPU is used only 33% here. After that I go to an animated cut-scene about the prior death of Geralt, which is an unplayable slideshow with sound stuttering, making the voice-over incomprehensible. This is also the case on low settings, making these parts of the game unplayable using 3D vision. Since the game was sold with a 3D Vision Ready logo on the box, I'm opening a support ticket on the matter with CDPR.

I play with XBOX 360 pad and now my Y axe on right pad is inversed :3
This work for mouse too
Thats exactly the puddles I saw as raised =D They weren't all like that tho, and I haven't noticed anything like that further on in the game yet lol. Thanks for the inverted controller tip, if I feel like using it, I use it inverted so that might come in handy for me =)
