Zalman Stereoscopic 3D Driver 197.13
  1 / 2
Hi all,

did anyone test the 197.13 driver for the zalman display?

No matter what i do, i get just anaglyphic view in all games even in the nvidia test.
The display is corectly detected. I have reinstalled the driver several times and yes, i use the 197.13 WHQL driver.

Does anybody have this effect?

Never mind...

the driver healed itself O.o

After i started Aliens vs predator it was normal interlaced mode.
The other games and even the test work now normaly.

i saw some moves with this monitor. isn't 3d mode ugly there? amaizing interlace does not make playing games enjoinable...

I have a Zalman Trimon 22" 3D monitor and can vouch that games and movies look great using the Nvidia drivers and i also like the fact that the glasses are very cheap if not free some some places so you can have as many peeps watching as you want :)

Is there and "angle of view" issue? Maybe that was something of concern a while back.

I've got a Zalman too. Its a decent product. 3D looks great, very low ghosting and passive glasses (no flicker). The viewing angles are pretty bad in the vertical but horizontal is OK. Personally I am thinking about upgrading at this point to a 3D Vision projector but for a 22" its a nice deal.

Yeah vertical angle is very small but once you're sat and sorted then it's fine. I like these because there are no batteries or extra bits of kit to mess with and as cyber said there's no flicker :)

I Love my Zalman 22"!
It is the BEST 3D-Stereo Monitor for Gaming! For LONG TIME (about 5-6 hours nonstop) Gaming! Very comfortable for eyes, because POLARIZED.
JVC 46" polarized - more-more better, but more-more expensive(10.000 $)...

The main problem with the JVC 46" Monitor is that it's not mass produced, so the the price is ridiculously high. Hyundai has the same issue with it's own 46" Xpol polarized display.
LG has announced that one of the numerous 3DTVs it will produce will also use Xpol technology (but just one, all the others will still be shutter based). I just hope it will be mass produced so that this TV can be sold at normal TV prices.

strange things
as far as i know polarized monitor have HALFED vertical resolution when 3d mode is on. so you actually have (for example) 1680x1050 native resolution and you get 1680x525 per eye when 3d mode active... coz polarized tech in LCD means using half lines for 1 eye signal and another lines for another 1 eye. or i missed some polarized tech upgrade?? :">

Not exactly, it's not polarisation that reduces the resolution, it's the method used to polarise.

Zalman, JVC and Hyundai use a special polarisation film coating on their displays called "Xpol" which use circular polarisation alternating in direction every line. This is why these displays have 1/2 resolution and narrow viewing angles vertically, but this allows the process to be very cheap to manufacture (if mass produced) and does not require new LCD hardware to work.

Other processes can use polarisation without reducing the resolution :

iZ3D uses two layers of liquid crystals in a LCD sandwich. the back panel contains colour for both eyes at the same time while the front panel adjusts the amount of light that goes in each eye for each pixel. This system provides full resolution in both eyes simultaneously, but it requires different hardware (a special sandwich of 2 LCD interdependent LCD panels) and the technique is only developed by iZ3D, so progress is slow and at the moment the only available monitor is 3 years old : it suffers from ghosting (more than 3D vision on Samsung 2233rz monitors)

RealD cinema projection systems uses a LCD panel in front of the projector which changes the polarisation of the light called a "Z-screen". The Z-screen alternates the polarisation completely every frame : this essentially produces a shutter system with passive polarized glasses.
This technology could also be applied to LCD screens but no company has done it yet because it's cheaper to use LCD shutter glasses than adding a big LCD panel to a display.

yes, halfed vert. res., but it is not so noticeable. When I use Viewsonic 120Hz with shutters, there was interlacing too! And up of screen(near 10-15%) was without stereo! And glitches, and flashes, and VERY dark picture... I (and more of my 3D-fan friends) сhoose POLARIZED technology! Because we are gamers, not only 3dmovie viewers...

BlackSharkfr thank you for explanation, i'm not strong in polarisation technology yet but i think i should to

yeah you r right some interlace effect is noticeble when use sumsung or vewsonic monitors but there is no resolution decreasing detected. well visually.. i hope lol +D
what about 15% of freaked display from up and bottom - well yeah this is major problem of both monitors.. but i heard last Acers models have no this issue at all and have reduced ghost effect. well yeah flickering is annoying as well
the only thing i cannot agree with is very dark picture - my viewsonic make picture bright enough when switched to 3d mode. probably it should be more bright but it's enough for comfort playing
anyway when polarized monitors with out cutting vertical resolution and low enough ghosting effects release i think to switch for this techology... but not now =\
