Crysis3 3D Vision - How to increase default maximum depth by tweaking 3D settings???
  1 / 5
I've been playing Crysis 3 in 3D and 3D is exactly what I expected considering this game uses the same Cryengine 3 as Crysis 2, so its the same shitty fake 3D, but the game is amazing and I can live with that fake 3D, it still better than playing the game in 2D in my opinion. The deal is that I could tweak the config.cfg file in Crysis 2 and make the 3D more acceptable by increasing the maximum depth to a level where it was not so flat, considering that Crysis 2 and 3 maximum default depth is compared to 15-20% regular 3D Vision depth in the NCP, so very flat to someone used to play games between 50-80% depth. The deal is I can't find a way to tweak Crysis 3 3D settings in a way I could increase the default maximum depth settings. Did anyone found a way how I can achieve that?

I can see why no one really cares about this post and don't even bother to reply to it, Crysis 3 3D is really ****** and most of 3D Vision users are just ignoring this game and I truly understand. Yes, we can all agree that Crysis 3 has the best graphics to date and amazing gameplay, but the lack of real 3D kills the game for us 3D Vision users that are used to see common games transform itself into amazing games just because of the real 3D effect that enhances graphics, makes the resolution look like it has doubled and the immersion just creates a whole new experience. You can tell that easiliy like when you play Dead Space 3, it has outdated graphics, still uses DX9 and doesn't have any tesselation or nothing of this new graphics features that we'been hearing about. Still once you enable 3D Vision (using Helix fix), everything changes and it's whole different game that look amazing and the immersion is just impressive. On the other hand when I was playing Crysis 3 yesterday I had the feeling that the game was still in 2D, I just had a false sense of some source of depth, but so ridiculous flat, that doesn't really feel like 3D at all. But deal is, just like Crysis 2, this (Retroprojection Crytek shitty 3D made for consoles) just doesn't really add anything to the game. The graphics don't change/enhance like when playing games in real 3D, it's still 2D, there's no immersive realism, no double resolution feeling, and even using AA, I can still see aliasing, cause there's no 3D, it's all a fake gimmick that Crytek claims to be 3D. I still don't understand how some folks don't feel such a big difference when playing Crysis 2,3 comparing to other 3D Vision games??? It's such a huge difference in 3D quality that a 5 year old child could tell such difference. The whole Crysis 3 scenario are all in 2D, and it's just pushed back into the screen, while Prophets hands are in a different plain. It all looks super fake and it's all 2D, there's no 3D really. I really don't understand why Crytek doesn't ley modders or even Nvidia drivers try to perform a full dual frame rendering 3D in this game. Crysis 3 had the potencial to be one of the most gorgeous 3D games of all time because of it's amazing graphics. But I'm not sure we'll ever know that, right? Games with much inferior graphics looked amazing in real 3D, so can we imagine how astonishing and mind blower Crysis 3 would seem in real 3D Vision? Such a wasted potencial. If I was still a 2D gamer I would be amazed by Crysis 3 fantastic next generation graphics with all it's eye candy graphics and full of advanced Dx11 features, but since I became a true 3D vision player and played some many games in amazing real 3D, I just don't get impressed anymore with amazing 2D graphics and that's why Crysis 3 doesn't really impress me that much anymore like Crysis did back in 2007, because right now I demand real 3D, and Crytek devs don't have a clue about what that is??? It's such a pitty that Crytek doesn't pay attention to 3D just because we're a small niche, they should have gave us the option for real 3D. I just don't think they know 3D that well to know that their 3D solution for Crysis 3 is not up to our standards, not even close. I really think they somehow think we're pleased with that fake 3D. Such a wasted potencial, that it hurts. One of my biggest dreams would be to be able to play Crysis, any of the 4 games, in real 3D. Crytek engine is amazing and with real 3D, I can imagine a whole new game experience for us 3D Vision gamers. Well, enough said, lets wait for GTA V to be released and hope it'll have good 3D support. BTW, If someone knows how to increase the 3D depth for Crysis 3, let me know the trick. Using a little bit more depth could at least make the fake 3D experience a bit more enjoyable, cause the default maximum depth is so flat that it really bothers me. At least in Crysis 2 there was a way to increase depth by tweaking the config.cfg, but Crytek seems to keep locking cvars in this game. They just don't want let anyone messing with their engine the way I see it...

Sadly Crytek has not unlocked the variables that are used to control 3D rendering in this title - yet. I'm not sure if they ever will at this point. I've played it ~50% through, 2D it looks 'ok', the 3D is meh, game play and length is a step down from Crysis2. Even sadder is that CE3 CAN render a real S3D image but the ability to do so is locked down in the game so it can't presently be enabled. Go over to their official forum and join in the request to have these 'cvars' (as they are called) unlocked.

But why da hell they lock the cvars??? Why not let us have some fun and enjoy real 3D? Isn't Crytek in the 1st place who always gave gamers editing tools so we could mod the game to our likings, so why not let us 3D gamers try to play this game in real 3D? I bet that even if we had to turn off various graphics settings such as shadows, post processing effects and other stuff that could be rendered in 2D, or even lowering the graphics to high instead of very high to get acceptable FPS, we would have a much better quality game than using that fake 3D shit they call retroprojection...

Well, i didn't see any 3D complaint threads on mycrisis forums, right when all of the key devs would have been on there, fishing for reactions and doing the usual rounds of PC patch creation. I created one, but it was on page 3 within just a few hours i think. How i saw that was like Toyota selling their Prius with a defect that caused the car to break down on day one, every car sold, and not one person called up their dealership and asked what was wrong or complained. Were a small enough community as it is, we gotta pipe up more.

If I remember right the depth is locked so low because they were too lazy to make shadows work and they break at higher depth. Atleast they say that.

guess this thread better goes to Crytek forum. as of right now, Prototype 2 is more visually appealing than Crysis 3 for me.

Anyone want to volunteer to compile a list of anti-Crysis 2 3D comment that are found all around the web, with links to them? They're everywhere, people saying things like "3D gaming is amazing, just stay away from fake crap like Crysis 2's 3D...". ..and then post a link to it on their twitter accounts? Just the comments on this forum alone would make for an impressive list that might well get their attention. I'd do it but im knee deep in Skyrim and can't break away. Its Helix's fault....

To be honest the 3D in Crysis 2 and 3 didnt ever put me off THAT badly, and with 3 needing a much higher spec to run at anywhere near 60FPS whilst being on max settings I would have to knock off a lot of detail to get playable framerates on my 580 in "real" stereo 3D. I'm quite happy for now to play in fake 3D, which IMO still looks better than 2D, without taking a massive FPS hit. My oppinion could change totally when I get my sli 670's delivered later on today however...

I try today Crysis 3 with Tridef (i install again tridef to play Bioshock Infinite, and decide to test this game also)....and for my surprise Tridef do dual render. With Tridef the game have some issues, but have real 3D: - Lights probles (minor) - Shadows Problems (minor) - Reflections issue - 2D Crosshair - The Gun looks like 2D image (like 2D sprite...LOL) I post this like an alternative, i have to disable 3D in NVCP and disable the 2D+depth render in-game. Also have to play 720p SBS mode, reduce to HIGH some advanced options, and use FXAA...the game eats CPU and GPU.....i have 45 fps and sometimes drops to 25fps.....maybe using NORMAL options i can increase a little more fps. i attach 2 Screenshots

You can fix the 2d gun problem. Tridef devs like it that way for some EXTREMELY ODD reason. Also Crysis has a "near fov" cvar setting that i think changes the size of the gun model, which should help tweak it further. To make the gun look 3D, create a custom Crysis 3 Tridef profile, then somewhere in the profile section options, there are a couple settings to change how Tridef interprets the gun model depth. I forget what it was exactly. I did a brief writeup on the Tridef forums last year so you can search for that.

I thought they do that because of Depth buffer. Like when using games using depth buffer/"power 3d" It causes fuzziness around the models up close but by forcing it 2D it reduces fuzziness. I cant honestly tell in that shot if it is depth buffer or not though so I could be wrong and it could just be because of gunsights.
