I think it is very sad that games nowadays are launched without any proper testing. Not only are they made with 5 year old consoles in mind. In my opinion, the last game that pushed the boundaries in terms of graphics in pc world was Crysis 1, for me still the best looking game ever, especially with some Mods). But now they are just betas when lauched. Not too long ago games were lauched fully working and properly tested. Sure, some months after there were patches launched that could correct some issue they didnt notice but things just worked. Pc gaming is dying, and money is all the studios care about. This is why dice was forced to launch a game with a "3D Vision Ready" logo and just days after release a 500mb patch.

And correct me if I am wrong, but they already launched 3 patches and the 3D is not working well yet (40fps max sucks). I am glad I did not buy the game yet, I knew this would happen. I agreed with what´s said in the article, the only company that can do something about this is Valve.
What makes me sad is that now, at 33 years old, I finally had the money to buy a good rig (i5 2500K, 2 Gtx570 in sli, 4Gb DDR3 1600Mhz CL7, 1 SSD, 88´´ sreen, 720p 3D projector, etc etc) it just dosent matter because games dont take advantage of it. :(

Hi,
The whole situation can seem pretty miserable and there is plenty of room for improvement but I think you're being a bit negative.
'They' have been saying that PC gaming is dying for years, but I have never had so many great games to play on my pc and most of them work really well in 3d. It's irritating that they don't take advantage of what the pc is capable of, but at the end of the day they probably wouldn't even exist without the consoles and we still get the best version.
Also, generally, all any company really cares about it money. That's the only reason they exist, it's not to do any of us a favour or improve our lives.
It's nothing new for games to be released with bugs, but that doesn't mean that they haven't been properly tested. I agree some developers will take shortcuts, but unfortunately it's nothing new in the videogame industry for a publisher to force an unfinished product out of the door.
There's even a school of thought that day 0 patches are just another anti-piracy tool although not really one of my beliefs at the moment.
The whole BF3 / 3D was badly handled and was probably a bit of a lose/lose for both Nvidia and Dice. I did read somewhere that part through development they pushed 3d down the list even to the point that they were withholding the function. Presumably to get the game out the door faster or just to save money.
It doesn't run right at all from what everyone is saying, but I'm finding the campaign great in 3d and the "Going Hunting" mission is one bit of 3d I've used to showcase my pc/projector.

I think the community would really appreciate an official word.
The game has been out for over 2 and a half months with a "3D Vision Ready" logo on it and it clearly is not 3D Vision Ready.
You can't even tell us if and/or when it will get fixed? Do you folks at DICE and Nvidia realize that many of us have spent a hefty amount of our luxury money on hardware to power this game in 3D?
Forget about the technical side of this failure. I'm entirely confounded by the total failure in public relations. I have not herd one official murmur, much less a cohesive statement to the people that make this game possible in the first place about this issue.

Is there a Battlefield 3d thread on the EA tech support forums? {assuming they have them}
The battlelog forums are a joke, there's nothing constructive there its just the same 10 thread topics recycled over 3-4 hours (IRNV OP, Sniper gimped, Heli OP, RPG OP, Tac Light OP, XYZ Gun OP, etc.). The devs say they read the forums but they don't, they rather use twitter or reddit over their own official forums. Their community manager does a terrible job and even acted the victim prior to one of the pre-Karkand patch releases, saying he wasn't even in a mood to read the forums bc everyone was being ungrateful for their efforts....
Your best bet imo is the Battlefield blog and try to comment in there or get in touch directly with the author of that post, because that's the only official topic I've seen from DICE that even acknowledges 3D in BF3 exists. :D

Hey guys, not to involve myself in the weighty topics being discussed here hopefully, I just have had a thought about one particular effect and how it relates to 3D.
The overlay that is visible when a bright light is in your vision that is meant to simulate your eyelashes and whatever battle-flak may inhabit them and the surface of your eye (which I love by the way, as annoying as it may be, I think it is refreshingly and extremely realistic, and done rather accurately too...) shouldn't be at the depth of the gun!
I think this detracts from the experience and if we could put in a request for DICE to tweak that for a future patch, I think it will add greatly to the immersion for 3D users.
I don't think they will be too against the idea, seeing as they have clearly built this Frostbite Engine with love (at least in terms of how the graphics LOOK, I am not going to get drawn into the reliability of it etc. etc.) with a lot of attention to detail. This is a detail that can push it further.
What do you think?
I am actually inclined to think that people who complain that the game seems flat, even after tweaking the depth and convergence, are just being tricked by this optical delusion. I am no cognitive neurologist, but I wouldn't be surprised if our brain is adjusting it's perception of depth, because the game is making it think our "eyelashes" and thus our "eyes" are much further forward than they should be.
Whether that particular theory is correct or not, I still think it would be nice to top off this already beautiful effect for 3D users. It would be gorgeous if it were much closer to our eyes.

I have a GTX 590 and I can play the game just fine in 3D.
I have everything at HIGH and turned off all the Anti Allising and Ambient Occlusion and i get a steady playable fps around 50 and mostly it stays just at 60.
Though i am sure that a better driver form Nvidia will correct the fact that sometimes when there is too much lightning the FPS drops near 40 which is not as great.
However I am enjoying the game in 3D for sure. Been playing online and singleplayer in 3D all the time.
Its a joy for me.
However I do agree that the performance could be better with better drivers.

How do you set convergence in this game? It seems like I can only control depth setting. I already enabled advanced setting in 3d control panel but ctrl + f5 or f6 don't do anything in game. Game looks awfully werid and off focused time to time unless I turn depth setting to minimal and sometimes 25-30% looks ok. If it's not manually controllerable, is there way to get away with it? Like in witcher 2, where you type in specific setting in .inf file or something. If there is, can you tell me how I do it and what's the good setting for it? :(

Hi,
The whole situation can seem pretty miserable and there is plenty of room for improvement but I think you're being a bit negative.

Would be very very nice if someone at nvidia could comment
Someone asked me the other day about bf3 & I replied "I don't play it ....I'm waiting for fixes"
We need a plan, rough eta of update

Is there a Battlefield 3d thread on the EA tech support forums? {assuming they have them}
The battlelog forums are a joke, there's nothing constructive there its just the same 10 thread topics recycled over 3-4 hours (IRNV OP, Sniper gimped, Heli OP, RPG OP, Tac Light OP, XYZ Gun OP, etc.).

Any suggestions about how to put in a request?
