How To Guide: Custom Resolutions and 3D Vision

Saw this in another thread, if he can change the laser sight, you should be able to change 201. It seems that there's a 64 bit version of nvstres.dll now. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/490056/3d-vision/how-to-make-your-own-nvidia-lasersights/post/5057253/#5057253
Hi! Did someone know if it's already possible to do that cos i did it few month ago and had no problem to have my custom crosshair but i try it now and it don't work. I use PE explorer to import the crosshair, edit them in paint and replace them with the pe explorer replacement function, save the new nvstres.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision but i still have the old crosshair. When i check with PE explorer i can see that the nex crosshair are hare but in game or in the Nvidia control panel it's still the old crosshair. Did i do something wrong? EDIT: i find the solution, i had to made change in nvstres64.dll and i had to use XN Ressource Editor cos PE explorer didn't manage 64 bits files.
Indeed I have noticed that and a couple of other 64 bit dlls too. Unfortnately, I don't know how to open them as PE explorer cannot. Edit: I tried Resource Hacker. Thanks D-Man ;-)

CFF Explorer can do it also I think, it's more robust than Resource Hacker. You can use it to hex edit I think, perhaps to hack a resolution in an old game? http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated in awhile either. Sorry, I forgot to mention it before. I had forgot about it until I went through my "utilities" folder just a lil bit ago.

Thanks for all the info. Could nvidia just release a proper fix to turn off the OSD? It s just a lame message that will interrupt all your intros (incredible worst if you like to run emulators with boot animation) and on latest version it get worst and appear on every game, app, etc.

You guys all get the OSD warning about incorrect resolution? I am using only custom resolutions and don't get the message (win 10, 8.1 and 7). I think the problem is the actually original Edid you are modding. Regarding x64 dll editor I use XNresourceditor. Works like a charm.

As long as timings aren't different from my base 120Hz native resolution, 3D Vision doesn't complain about current resolutions (Windows 7 had less restrictions for me, I think). For G-Sync+ULMB, I need to have +5 Vertical Total, so what I did was use Custom Resolution Utility to have that Vertical Total (1530 instead of 1525) in my native resolution. Now my native resolution and all custom resolutions are capable of both 3D Vision and G-Sync+ULMB. Now my desktop is always in Lightboost mode when 3D Vision is enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel.

masterotaku, do you mean you got GSync + 3D Vision to work simultaneously?! If so, that's Huge!

I did the dll edit, but after a few restarts, osd message appears again. Replaced the file again and workked for a few restarts. Also put the file as read only, but works for a few restart. Stupid nvidia, give us an option to disable this damn warning.

Hmm, I just came across this while searching for something else and it made me think of this thread. (I saw it on PC gaming Wiki) I haven't used it, but figured I'd link it, as it might help someone. SRWE https://github.com/dtgDTGdtg/SRWE Simple Runtime Window Editor (SRWE) - a program that allows you to pick a running application and manipulate size, position, styles of its main/child windows. SRWE was built to maintain games that run in Windowed-mode. For example, you can get the fullscreen-mode effect on a windowed-mode game or get fullscreen effect with visible taskbar. Since SRWE allows you to manually set up any window size or position, it can be useful in taking high-resolution screenshots in games that support windowed-mode. Hotsampling games for screenshots To take screenshots from games it's often better to run the game on a high resolution. This will likely make the game run slower than normal, but for taking screenshots this is OK. To set the game to a (much) higher resolution, SRWE can be used. This is called hotsampling. Not all games support this feature, however: the game has to resize its viewport (the area of the window which displays the game's graphics) when the game's window (the frame/border around the viewport) is being resized. A lot of games simply stretch the viewport or create black borders around it. However some games do resize the viewport and for these games you can use SRWE to resize them when you want to take screenshots. To test whether a game supports hotsampling, run the game in windowed mode so you'll have a border around the viewport. Now drag with the mouse the border to a direction to increase the window size. When you release the left mouse button, the viewport of the game should resize. If the viewport adapts to the new window size, the game can be hotsampled. Games like Skyrim SE, all frostbyte games, Rise of the Tomb Raider support hotsampling. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ A quick Google, turned up these guides https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1119283512 https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/articles/49/

I came to this discussion searching for "custom resolution". I have recently tried a custom res. with 3D-vision and no matter what res. i choose 3D-Vision put out 1920x1080. I was trying to find a solution for 3D Screenshots with much higher res. I can set for example 2880 x 2400 whatever, Nvidia will display this res. but when 3D Vision kicks in, it only shows 1920x1080. (No error message) . Is there a trick for that too ?

For 3D, I've no idea. But for 2D, some games have a built in screenshot function and the parameters of the screenshot can be configured in the ini. Try manually downsampling using Nvidia's Custom resolutions and see what results you get.

I've seen it mentioned several times that SoftTH can be used for downsampling. I've never used it, but it might be worth checking out. It's primarily for surround gaming http://www.softth.net/

Currently having the "Resolution not compatible" issue on my 64 bit system. Display settings in the NVidia control panel shows 1920 x 1080 120Hz. I downloaded resource hacker and can open nvstres.dll with it and select 201 to successfully replace with the blank bitmap provided. There is also nvstres64.dll, but attempting to open that in resource hacker displays the message "Unable to read Resource Selection". (I'm a beginner, so if you have a suggestion, please write it like you would write a technical manual for your grandma.) Asus VG248QE monitor + 3D Vision 2 via DisplayPort to a GTX1080Ti. Win10 Home
