Specs:
Monitor: VG248QE with DVI-D Dual link
Graphics card: EVGA 4GB 770
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Here... we... go...
Plugged in my emitter and charged up my glasses. Tried to run the stereoscopic 3D wizard, but kept getting the " Warning: attempt to run Stereoscopic in non-stereo display mode, please change to a acceptable mode. See documentation for acceptable Stereoscopic 3D modes" and failing the hardware test.
Called up Nvidia's support line and got connected to India. He had me check some options such as making sure my resolution was native and set to 120hz after trying to tell me my monitor wasn't Nvidia Vision 3Dready. After convincing him that it was, he had me install driver version 364.51 via a clean install. Now the 3D set up wizard won't even recognize that the emitter is plugged in!
I check my device manager and it sees the emitter and says it's drivers are up to date and it's working properly. So what's the deal now?
TLDR: NVIDIA support made my issue even worse and now my Stereoscopic 3D setup wizard won't recognize that the emitter is plugged in.

I would remove the emitter.
Then use DDU to actually completely remove the drivers in safe mode. (I doubt they got you to do this part)
Then install again, and Put the emitter back in a DIFFERENT USB port.
Hopefully that should sort it for you.

The recent drivers have been a bit if a mess with installation issues and claims of overheating/fried GPUs.
I'd suggest trying driver 362.00, I'm currently using it with W7 64 without any issues.
To install new drivers, it is highly recommended that you do so using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from Wagnard. It can be downloaded from Guru3D or Wagnard's site.

Get the driver from

or

It is recommended that you do not install Nvidia's GeForce Experience unless you need it for the Shield or ShadowPlay.
It's is also best if you have the emitter plugged into a USB port located on the motherboard vs the front panel header of the case.
NOTE: the emitter needs to be connected prior to installing the drivers
Make sure that you enable the advanced hot keys

It's got some known bugs with the sometimes required profile manager I think.
It's just safer to not use it if your dealing with 3dvision and the hundreds of fixes available which often require custom profiles and stuff.
It doesn't take 3dvision into account for the game "optimizations" anyway. Making it useless.
I personally have been using OBS for screen capture instead. (I am using the latest beta driver and seems ok so far.)

GeForce experience is bloatware if you have no need for it. It will run a bunch of unneeded background processes. 3D requires twice the performance of 2D, so no need to have un-necessary features eating away at resources.

FWIW I have never had trouble with Geforce Experience and 3D Vision, BUT I only ever use it for Shadow Play - I tried it's optimisation thingy when it first came out and it just seemed to make silly choices so I never touched that again.

Geforce Experience isnt the problem. Though I agree its garbage minus Shadow Play.
Sometimes 3D vision just installs "bad". Profile issues, etc.
I have no idea the cause but just doing clean install/reinstall fixes it.
Problem has been around for like 6 years. Its just some random bad luck it happens. If something happens between one install and the next. Thats why [unless driver is f'd up entirely].

If you do a complete driver installation, 3D Vision isn't enabled unless you check the box to enable it. So it's just extra baggage for those installing and not using it.
I accidentally installed GeForce Experience a few drivers back and found a lot of new background processes running. These were for Nvidia's Update Utility, GeForce Experience, GeForce Now and other stuff.
This I refer to as bloatware
NVBackend.exe
nvstreamsvc.exe
nvnetworkservice.exe
Why have these running if I'm not using them? They were also accessing and waking my sleeping hard drives that are used for digital video recording with Windows Media Center.
Like I suggested to emir89, don't install it unless you specifically need the additional services available such as ShadowPlay, GeForce Now, etc..
