It appears that DSR does not work with 720p 60hz 3D currently.
With my Benq W1070, there are options in the Nvidia control panel for 1080p 24hz 3D DSR, but nothing for 720p. I tried an EDID override for a 720p native Acer H5360BD, but that didn't change anything. Considering that most 3DTV Play users opt for 720p, it's an unfotunate oversight.
I hope it can be fixed in future driver releases.
Other than GeDoSaTo, is looks like there might be a work around to the current DSR problem: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/777926/geforce-900-series/dsr-locked-to-strange-resolution-and-refresh-rate-/ But my impression is that DSR is meant to allow us to avoid these kinds of things.
Otherwise, I'm enjoying the upgrade from 560Ti to 970 today!

Airion, I believe I found a workaround, thanks to help from people on this forum. For me, it was for 800p, but there is no reason it shouldn't work for 720p as well.

Edit:
Sorry, I see you have already found it.
nVidia should have taken care of it. Hopefully they still will. EDID overrides just didn't work for me. CRU directly patched the current EDID. I am thankful to the smart cookie who made it.
Question: do you have any problems with the red "this resolution is not supported by 3D vision" due to the resolution now being 1 pixel out?

Thanks for your thread RAGEdemon, I already linked to it in my OP. But my hope is that Nvidia will fix this, as the promise of DSR is that downsampling will be easy. GeDoSaTo already supports 720p (and any other resolution), DSR should too in time.
EDIT: We're on the same page, lol.
But I don't know what you mean by "1 pixel out."

My driver does not recognise 1280x800 for DSR, but it does recognise 1281x800 :P
So at 4x DSR I get 2562 x 1600, which I am perfectly happy with as a workaround. I thought people may have problems with 3D vision recognising this as a valid resolution.
With CRU, the driver recognises your 1280x720 native resolution? that's good news!

Darn, i couldnt get 720p dsr working in 3dtv play either. Like you, dsr resolutions in 3d have 24hz cap, downsampling to 1080p. Custom resolution tool didnt help either, as soon as i changed something, NV control panel didnt recognize my display as a 3dtvplay compatible anymore. Only had generic, dlp and discovery 3d options, no 3dtvplay. I tested using sony hmz HMD, its my main gaming display, later gonna try 120hz 3d vision projector as well as 1080p 3dtv play pj.

No. Maybe CRU would work with some deep tinkering, but I expect this will be an easy fix for Nvidia, so I'm waiting patiently.
Meanwhile, I'm using GeDoSaTo where I can (Dark Souls 2 and Skyrim!).
No, dsr still broken for me. 3dtv dsr only works at 24hz, downsamples to 1080p resolution opposed to 720p which allows 60hz and is also native resolution of my 3dtv device. 120hz 3d vision projector also doesnt work dsr outputs to 1080p 60hz and should output to 720p 120hz.
Devices tested:
SOny hmz-t1 3dtv, 720p native.
Optoma hd67n, 3d vision 120hz, 720p native.
Not tested yet:
Benq x2411t 144hz 3d vision monitor, 1080p native and playable in 3d at 1080p120hz.
Benq w1070 60hz projector, 3dtvplay, 1080p native, (24hz 1080p, 720p60hz 3dtvplay)

you could try to set it up like this, except with 60 hz for 3dtv play.
NVIDIA TITAN X (Pascal), Intel Core i7-6900K, Win 10 Pro,
ASUS ROG Rampage V Edition 10, G.Skill RipJaws V 4x 8GB DDR4-3200 CL14-14-14-34,
ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q, ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q, Acer Predator XB280HK, BenQ W710ST
I tried that before and didnt work. After i make necessary changes in CRU, 3dtv play option vanishes. i get "generic" and "discovery" 3d display types, but not 3dtv play, therefore i cannot enable 3d at all. DSR resolutions look ok in 2d though and they output to 720p/60hz.

Using HDMI and TVPLAY 720p/50hz and 720p/60hz is the resolution for games.
DSR does not support now DSR for 720p native 3d resolution, like: "720p, 1920x1080 HD 3D"
DSR supports only "1080p, ...x... HD 3D" 23/24hz resolutions.
We need "720p, 1920x1080 HD 3D" DSR resolution on change resolution page of nvidia control panel.
!!! NVIDIA !!! Please improve DSR support !!!

I would like this feature buts lets face facts, they can't even get 3D bluray playback working never mind this.
Also what's with 3Dtv Play not supporting HDMI 2 and 4k 3D TV's? I thought we paid for them to support new displays and the likes.
Just let down after let down.

Lower native resolutions have the most to gain from downsampling. People using 720p 3D, or half 1080p per eye Oculus Rift have much more to gain from DSR than people with 2D 1080p monitors.
Unfortunately GeDoSaTo is still the king for 3DTV Play users. I can attest that the results are excellent! It's limited to DX9 though, and DSR is supposed to eliminate the need for these (trail-blazing) mods. 1080p 3D works in DSR, but not the 720p 3D that we want. This should be an easy fix for Nvidia.

I've been trying to do this myself, but I'm unfortunately seeing the same results as Sammy. After I make the change, nVidia CP sees the PJ as connected via DVI (instead of HDMI), and it won't engage 3D TV Play as a result.
