Red Faction: Guerrilla Steam Edition - HUD / crosshair on screen depth
I suppose that most of you already know this game and played it long time ago. Me too actually, I always had it in my library but since the online mode arrived on steam the other day I was just playing again a round. So, 3D vision looks good out of the box. Only annoying point is the HUD and the crosshair, that seems to be sticked to the HUD in general. Does anyone has an idea how I can fix the 2D HUD/crosshair easily? I am not expert, but maybe I can try my luck on this one. Thanks a lot in advance!

I know. I tried to get into it already some times... but I am not very gifted learning informatics after work. I acutally already proud that I know how to fix the games with the files our great community uploads regularly. I will try to learn it next year during holidays. Promised. :)

If you want to simply disable the crosshair and HUD, that is very easy, mostly a matter of finding the right shader. If you want to push the crosshair to depth, that is a little trickier, but still on the easy side of the ledger. I would definitely encourage you. This is a good one to start with.

Will this work with 3DMigoto? I did set the game into DX9 mode with the Helix debugger, but the characters literally disappeared with the exception of their outer wear. My character was just a walking coat...it had me lol..... Anyway, I was planning to look at it again, but I reverted back to what I believe is DX10 and the 3D Vision kicked in no problem and convergence is unlock. Two main issues though. 1.) Shadows have to be turned off, an even with that, there is still a soft shadow under the characters 2.) Sky is out of depth for sure I was going to try and disable the soft shadow shader with the helix DX9 debugger, but no point if I am going to be a walking coat. I will say though, I did modify and ini file for the FOV so I think I'll go back to the default FOV and see if the helix DX9 debugger will work. It definitely kicks in though.. I never bothered trying the 3DMigoto debugger because of DX10, am I wrong? Cheers,

@ Bo3b, thanks for the encouragement. I really should start getting into it and I appreciate that you are providing us with a very good guide for it. Thanks for this.

No guarantee of course, but I did see it load d3d11.dll which is required. Enough so that I'd say it's worth a try. Either HelixMod with DX9 or 3Dmigoto with DX10/11 should work here. Becoming just a coat is pretty likely to be a FOV problem, that happens a fair amount. Make sure it's working smoothly in 2D before trying the tools.

*** Updated: Send me a message if you would like the dumps.*** Thanks bo3b, it turns out the FOV for being just a coat wasn't the problem. I deleted Red Faction Guerilla executable profile with Nvidia Inspector and added the executable to "Prototype 2" profile and things are working great. The DX9 debugger worked no problem and I managed to find all the shaders that were distracting. The Skybox issue I mentioned before was not a problem, it was the floating clouds. I have included my solution and I am quite happy with how it looks in 3D, pretty good. I went back to this game because of the patching out of GFWL. For anyone interested in this here is my solution. I want to point out that these are removal of problematic shaders and not a fix. I simply don't know how to fix them. "Note: You have to turn off the shadows in the game settings and run this in DX9 mode. I've also disable motion blur and depth of field since I don't like them in any game" Install 1.) Use Nvidia Inspector to remove the Red Faction Guerilla profile. 2.) Add the "rfg.exe" executable to the Prototype 2 profile If you are unfamaliar with Nvidia Inspector, I would highly recommend downloading it and learning how to use it. It is invaluable for 3D Vision gaming. There is a great guide on how to use Nvidia Inspector here. http://helixmod.blogspot.ca/2013/03/how-to-change-3d-vision-profile-and.html 3.) Unzip contents of Red_Faction_Guerrilla_3D_Shaders_Removed.zip file to where the "rfg.exe" file is.(i.e. \Red Faction Guerrilla) In my case it is S:\My Steam\SteamApps\common\Red Faction Guerrilla Rename the attached file's extension from ".jpg " to ".zip" for the removed shaders. You can switch/change two convergence settings with keys "0" & "9". Simply select key and adjust your convergence and the Ctrl + F7 to save. You can then switch back in forth. I included this because I use a convergence setting when I am on foot and another for when in a vehicle. You can learn more about multiple convergence settings here and you can customise key changes in the DX9Settings.ini file http://helixmod.blogspot.ca/2013/04/guide-how-to-bind-custom_28.html 4.) The Optional FOV Files can be found here. http://steamcommunity.com/app/20500/discussions/0/846961716495621555/ The FOV is set to 90 and I personally like it because I can see my main character in full. If you do a google search for "Red Faction Guerilla FOV Fix", you can try alternate FOV settings. The setting of FOV 90 allows for a great toyification effect when adjusting convergence. My preferred setting when it is a 3rd person perspective. And lastly, if any shader wiz kids want to fix the shaders send me a message and I will get them over to you....fixes rather than removal is obviously more ideal, I just don't know how to do it... Cheers

Stryker 66, thanks for your message and the tweaks. Does this help to disable the crosshair or set convergence of it? Where can I download Red_Faction_Guerrilla_3D_Shaders_Removed.zip?

I didn't realize that Nordic Games was actively working on this game since acquiring it from the THQ bankruptcy. I thought they were only transferring it from the defunct Games for Windows Live servers over to the Steam servers for multiplayer. Anyhow, since they are actively requesting user feedback, it would be a great time to request features such as 3D Vision support. http://steamcommunity.com/app/20500/discussions/0/604941528476825786/ Maybe they could be persuaded to get 3D working in the first Red Faction again as well :P
