I'm personally in the group that doesn't find that kind of backlight bleed defect as acceptable on a $500+ monitor. I understand some backlight bleed is going to be inevitable with TN panels and I've had some backlight bleed on the edges of almost all my desktop LCDs. I just couldn't be satisfied seeing a noticeable pattern like that every time the screen dimmed during a movie or I booted up Windows.

For those on the fence, it might be better to wait for the updated Acer model with Lightboost 2. From Bloody's not-so-subtle comments, it may be the better panel and the one he ultimately purchases for his own use:

The problem is it sounds like Acer is doing a silent upgrade and not denoting any changes on the model number itself, only on the product plate itself. You might be able to get some idea if the new kit includes 3D Vision 2 glasses instead of 3D Vision 1 glasses. But its pretty obvious at this point that Acer wanted to burn off their existing stock of 3DV1 kits and monitors before rolling out 3DV2 and Lightboost versions. Too bad its so ugly compared to the Asus. :(

Well, the bleed is noticeable when you push up the brightness to the maximum. Also, the most prominent feature this monitor has is called LIGHTBOOST. I.e. the backlight is much brighter than on a standard monitor.

Again, the panel is the same as with any other 120 Hz monitor, you can be sure of that.

I'll leave the rest up to yourself. I, for one, don't think that this problem will be less prominent on any other model of the current generation. And I don't think that anyone will be affected by this in normal operation or 3D.

Hi Guys,

NewEgg actualy waved the restocking fee after I contacted them. They fully accepted the return. If anyone else is experiencing the same issue they should contact NewEgg directly and they will wave the restocking fee. I am waiting for the lightboost version of the Acer 27 inch to be released.

Yep. You either have to call them on phone or talk to them on chat to waive restocking fee on defected item. Newegg don't charge restocking fee on defects but you have to actually talk to agent to avoid getting charged restocking fee. Minor inconvenience but it's better than nothing. I am also waiting on new acer 27 inch 3d vision 2 version and see how that one do first. If it's better than asus vg278h, I will get that one if not, well.. at least I will get fixed asus vg278h that don't have oval bleeding problem. :)

That's great to hear, and should at least calm some concerns about buying this from Newegg. I've always had good experiences in the past with Newegg in the past regarding defective products, so it would've been disappointing if they started changing their policy now.

I've just gotten this one, and so far no issues.

Far too bright so I dropped the settings down to 40 %

3d works very well even on games that aren't listed in the nv control panel.
3d source videos however is a different matter.

The nv demo app is way kewl, the demo movie I don't see any 3d effects, a mkv file I d/l'd won't play in the nv player.

being only a few hours into this I probably need to read up a bit more, before complaining...

I love this monitor. I felt like the default brightness was way too high. Haven't noticed any issues with mine but i also have no interested in pushing the brightness any higher. Didn't notice anything wrong with it on the default setting.

I used paint and created a blank image all black, then set the controls to max, I don't see any issues, no stuck pixels etc just yet. does this effect appear with new monitors or ones that are used after some period of time?

From what I have read, it develops after a couple days. For what it's worth, I didn't hear about this issue until I had mine for a full week and I did not notice any issues with it when I checked. I am using the 1UDpixel utility and have made it a point to check it every day since I heard about it. I am going into my 6th week so far and the monitor has met all my expectations so far.

I know a couple people on the Hardforums posted they don't have this issue either. As is the case with many things in life, you don't hear much feedback from people that aren't having any issues with them. I do acknowledge that there are people having this issue, but I don't think it's a flaw that is inherent in all of them.

Edit: Changed my mind. I think I will wait for acer. Only newegg and paying $50.00 tax and then hassle for return if not working.

I might wait to see if LG comes with a 3D Vision 2 monitor anytime soon. It prices the monitors quite well around here. I notice a big price difference between the US and EU prices for the ASUS

I wanted to post this here to see if anyone else has this weird issue and if this is normal or not. At first I thought it was just me, but someone else is also having the same issue as me. When I first got this monitor, 3D was great, very minimal ghosting, if any. I'm not really a picky person when it comes to ghosting, but a few weeks later, I noticed there was a lot of ghosting in the monitor. Like I was able to see ghosting in the 3D Vision test and also I was able to see the other shape during the 3d Vision setup, where you should only be able to see one shape per eye.

Here is the post I made along with one other mentioning this issue.

http://3dvision-blog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1929

Anyone else here experiencing this issue? Should I be opening up a support ticket with Asus, or is this normal for a 3D LCD monitor?
