Yeah...unfortunate. And now with Rage being a huge flop and Doom 4 being postponed indefinitely, there's virtually no chance Nvidia will be forced to support OpenGL with this iteration of 3D Vision. It certainly appears iD Tech and OpenGL are "doomed" to obscurity in the consumer-space now......

Well isn't the reason that Nvidia doesn't support OpenGl in 3D Gaming, because they are trying to keep that accessable only to their lucrative 3D Vision Pro users for 3D software.

Yeah that's what I think but I doubt we'll ever hear a definitive response from Nvidia on it, certainly not from Andrew. While he's certainly not some low-level peon over there, the decision not to support OpenGL on 3D Vision is most probably being made a good bit above his head.
Also, I don't think its necessarily to protect 3D Vision Pro, its more to protect their lucrative Quadro/Tesla professional solutions. That's the key to unlocking OpenGL stereo, a $1000+ video card, not the glasses since you can also use normal 3D Vision glasses with Quadro cards for OpenGL stereo support.

Stereogaming with opengl games will not be possible on quadrocards unless the game itself supports quadbuffered opengl. Most if not all opengl games don't.
Prey1 is really good in 3d though. Not without flaws but certainly playable!

There's 3D Vision and 3D Vision Pro. 3D Vision Pro is needed to unlock all the stereographic features of the Quadro line, for applications supporting Quad Buffered Open GL stereo. If 3D Vision Pro is not used, Nvidia disables all stereographic support within the driver. I may be wrong, but you do know there are Open GL drivers for GTX 4 and 5 series GPUs? The only way to lock stereographic capabilities is via control of the different lines via their emitter.

Ah yeah that's right, I do remember that discussion. I believe the older supported OpenGL games with legacy pre-G80 hardware/drivers use an auto-stereo OpenGL feature of the driver that is disabled/removed from current drivers. The newer 3D Vision OpenGL implementation requires native quad-buffer stereo support from the app/game itself.

I don't think that's the case unless Nvidia at some point disabled the standard 3D Vision support on Quadro. Keep in mind, Pro is relatively new (about one year) and 3D Stereo support in OpenGL for Quadro has been around since 3D Vision launched. Pro has some advantages for sure, but from what I've read it mainly comes down to mobility, bi-directional communication, and more concurrent users. Even just searching around a bit on the forums you can see people who are using normal 3D Vision kit with their Quadros for stereo 3D applications.

Thanks for pointing that out, I was unaware that the Quadro line functioned with anything other than the Pro glasses for stereographic apllications. Good to know.
