Well, just to clarify, I don't think it's anything Nvidia did on purpose to break things. It's more to do with me not really knowing that much about shader code and using a very powerful DLL that HeliX created and not realizing I couldn't just blank out all shaders without setting a default pointer of sorts. :) It worked fine with Fermi but makes Kepler GPUs choke, probably some subtle difference in their compilers.[/quote]
just tested it; I deleted helix mod components, and the same thing (freezes when entering profile page) happened! so, we can at least ascertain that it's not about the fix?

I did the same thing earlier, the mod, the profile, configs files, nothing kept it from freezing AND ... I'm on a GTX 670.

Which makes me wonder about my earlier post is it possible to drop a previous version of a physx dll in the folder like the helix dx9 dll?
The same with Alice: [s]Madness[/s] Sadness Returns, is it possible to run the newest drivers and only drop the necessary previous drivers in the game's exe's folder?

Yeah it certainly sounds like it could be a PhysX bug. I know there was a bug and subsequent fix for Alice around the original R300 drivers, could be a recurring issue. May need to submit a ticket request with Nvidia or post in the GeForce Driver forum. ManuelG is really good on staying on top of this kind of thing.

Hey Chiz. First of all a personal thank you for having worked on this game before, it is really appreciated.

I don't know how NVidia components are all linked, but I am relatively sure it is not PhysX issue (even though it's usually the likely candidate). I did a 'clean' installation of the drivers (aka via NVidia older drivers) and it rolled back everything other then PhysX. That stayed as the most up to date version.
So unless PhysX is wrapped up in some of the other Nvidia components I don't see how it could be PhysX (unless my installer lied to me, and did back date some PhysX files).
Either way it's sad it is broken, the game looks pretty amazing in 3D. Will PM ManuelG with a link to this link.

Hey chiz, hasn't Helix found a way to make the sights of games get the depth buffer now? He helped Mana make the sights 3D very quickly apparently. That could fix the problem perfectly then, as i'm guessing your fix sets the aiming very far away meaning that it will be hard to aim at something close to you?
Anyway, I'm going to play Alice now.
EDIT: god damn this game is stunning. Makes me once again realise that having a game list page on the 3d forums could be amazing. E.g. with all the fixes you need to get the game to run perfectly.
E.g. Alice:
Disable frame limiter in ini
Disable vsync in ini
Use 306 drivers
Turn on adaptive vsync in NVidia drivers
Use xbox controller
Then perfection. Find it shocking this games graphics were criticised in a few popular magazine reviews. It looks great to my eyes, really imaginative and fresh.

This game delivers for me one of the best 3D gaming experience.
for the graphic, 2D texture wise isn't up to the engine's potential (see Batman:AC), however, the art direction is just one of its kind! and you have 3D!
and even better, for me, the best way to play the game, 3D surround, with ultra widescreen, the gameworld is even more amazing (muted clip, sound was lost when converting the file~ but you guys can get a sense of the 3D surround gameplay, and imagine the glory of full 6100x1080)
Edit:
scrap that~ youtube doesn't show proper 3d, I'll try to figure how to do it~

They were mainly criticizing the graphics from a technical standpoint. It is obvious in some levels that there is a lot of texture work to make up for a lack of polygons. And keep in mind that probably ALL of the reviews were based on playing in 2D.
I for one think it looks fantastic, as do most 3D gamers who have tried it. The art direction more than makes up for any technical shortcomings. And then throwing PhysX into the mix - Well, you are in for a treat even much later into the game. There are a few scenes (A spiraling table for tea-time comes to mind) that are nothing short of jaw-dropping. Add to the fact that the story is very poignant for a video game, and the symbolism and elements that come together to tell the story is nothing short of genius. I would fully back any attempt at a sequel, but would prefer to keep EA from ruining the marketing again so people will actually buy the game.
@ Chiz: Thanks man, I will gladly try the fix the next time I fire up the game. I don't even have it installed currently, but this is one title that I keep revisiting, so eventually..

I just tested and didn't have any crashing problems guys, is there a specific scene that's forcing a crash? About how long are you playing before you crash? Here's my info:
Origin version
313.96 Beta
PhysX 9.12.1031
Can you guys try this driver version and see if it crashes?

Yeah I think he did start rendering crosshair at actual depth value and fixed it in Mana's Bioshock fix, but I haven't been keeping up with all his DLL changes so I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement. It's probably pretty complicated given the crosshair shader also renders a bunch of other stuff with interdependencies, which is why everything ends up getting pushed to the same depth as the crosshair. I think he ends up selectively choosing which textures to render at which depth with a series of filters but I can't say for sure.
But yeah while Alice looks amazing in 3D, (perfect blend of cartoon and color) it looks far less impressive in 2D which is why I think it didn't get great reviews for graphics.

It's the latest beta drivers, it doesn't really even start it gets past all the 2D stuff when starting up but at the title screen when you have to press ENTER the 2nd time it freezes, pretty sure that's when you'd see Alice rendered in 3D and the menu options but instead it just freezes and your stuck at the title. Have to CtrlAltDel to get out.
Steam version
314.21 Beta
Can't remember Physx off the top of my head.
