3DTV Play license activation, error "The licensing server is unavailable."

3DTV Play license activation, error "The licensing server is unavailable."
A couple of days ago I bought a NVIDIA 3DTV Play license when the trial expired.
For some reason I cannot seem to activate the license using the 3DTV Play Activation Utility.
After entering the serial number and clicking the OK button after 1-2 minutes I get the error "The licensing server is unavailable. Try again later.". (see http://filebin.ca/27jzNawXjRb8/3DTVPlayActivationUtility.png )
The serial number has not been used before and I have not got it working before with the serial, the trial did work.
I have already contacted NVIDIA support using chat but they were not much of a help and they sent the problem to the backend team and will contact me as soon as they have figured out what the issue is.
In some of the other posts I have seen people waiting weeks for a response from NVIDIA support so I am hoping someone on the forum can help me as I am not willing to wait weeks.
Some relevant details:
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
- GeForce GTX 970
- Driver version: 353.30
Things I have tried:
- Putting my computer in the DMZ on my router
- Changing my DNS servers.
- Reinstalling my OS
- Using Wireshark to see what network traffic is sent
When capturing the network traffic with Wireshark I can see that the application contacts the activation server and does get a XML SOAP response message.
The message contains the following: (see http://filebin.ca/27jzkhOq67QR/WiresharkXMLSOAPactivationresponse.xml )
<activationsUsed>2</activationsUsed>
<activationsAllowed>5</activationsAllowed>
<reissuesUsed>3</reissuesUsed>
<reissuesAllowed>3</reissuesAllowed>
The "activationsUsed" can be explained because I reinstalled my OS and apparently it already used one on my old OS even though I did not actually managed to activate it.
The maximum number of activations hasn't been reached yet so I do not think that is the issue.
The "reissuesUsed" does seem to have reached the maximum allowed but I am not really sure what that means.
It amazes me that the 3DTV Play Activation Utility indicates that "The licensing server is unavailable" because it clearly can contact it.
Anybody have any idea on how I can solve this or something else I can try?
Should NVIDIA support reset something?

Its an on going issue we are still investigating at the moment unfortunately, right now the only work around is to reinstall the 14 day trial until we can resolve the server issue.

Josh, this has been going on for far too long. Can you please give more detail on what happened, why it's taking so long to fix, and when we can expect a resolution?

it'll be a sh*t storm when windows 10 comes out, everyone clean installs, and then try to activate 3DTVPlay again.
Also can you give someone a nudge please Josh and ask them to take the daft 720p limitation off 3DTV play whilst your at it.
Some of us have 4k TV's with HDMI 2.0 and display port!
Give something back eh? :D
Also if people have 60hz 4k working at 4:2:0 chroma with HDMI 1.4, why can't you get 1080p 60hz 3DTV play working over HDMI 1.4?
It's not like colour accuracy is one of 3D's strong points anyway!
Please forward my comments on to someone who can do something about it! Cheers!

This has gone long enough, it is impossible for me to activate either of the licenses I legally purchased.

Despite having working licenses, the tool claims that the "license server is unavailable" (although the above wireshark captures are proof of the contrary, also obviously my computer can contact it just fine)
I have sent an e-mail to the nvidia support, one of their staff told me I would be "contacted soon" and since then hasn't done so
I need to activate 3DTV play on my devices, the trial ends in 2 days, there is no official workaround, just reinstalling the activation utility won't work and there is no way I am going to use an unofficial tool full of potential trojans to reset it when I PURCHASED THE DAMN THING.
I am not the only costumer complaining, what kind of an image does that give of a company such as NVIDIA ?
Do something and do it fast, this is getting ridiculous, your servers have not been working for over a month now. Is this how you handle costumers ? Perhaps I should go to the competition which offers 3D TV support for free using any of their cards and without the need of purchasing an addon that as of this moment cannot even be activated.

AMD doesn't offer good support is the issue. Very few games run natively in 3D with AMD. To get stereo 3D with most games, you need to purchase a license with third party programs. Their answer to 3D Vision was... here, let someone else handle this instead.
It is ridiculous though. It's really beginning to feel like Nvidia has basically cancelled 3D support and this is their way of breaking up. Instead of announcing it, they're just refusing to call/text anymore.

I'm hoping they're finally updating something and it's something big enough to mess with the activation servers, maybe for a new updated version of 3DTV Play and perhaps VR/3D Vision ... probably just wishful thinking though.

It's definitely wishful thinking!
What the hell are nvidia thinking/doing?
I think nvidia are losing their edge as well as their programmers/customers.
Rocksteady will have batman fixed by the time nvidia get this sorted by the looks of things.
It's weak sauce!

Why don't they tell their customers what's going on? It's a disgrace, an outrage.
What an insult to the community who provide all the fixes and who also happen to be paying customers of Nvidias half functional products.
It's disgusting for a company to keep their customers in the dark over a show stopping issue like this.
Nvidia needs to work on its public relations big time.
Is this an American or japenese company? I thought we lived in an era of more transparency within organisations through social media and the likes?
Nvidia appear to be draconian in its ways. Like a country ruled under a dictatorship.
Nvidia you are losing customers ever day over this issue.
What are you doing about it?

I have got the exact same problem. It began with changin to windows 8.1, I bought the 3d tv play again and I cannot activate it, because "license server is not available"
Now i changed to windows 10 and exactly the same problem.
The support of nvidia is ridiculous in germany. Not a single answer. They are not responsible for 3d tv play or something like that. Well...40 euro blown away and unable to play ANY game 3d.
Well played nvidia

[quote="icefox1983"]Hi guys, I just installed Windows 10 clean, and found out that I couldn't activate 3DTV Play. I found this thread on Google and realized the problem has been out there for more than month. Knowing that conventional approaches would not result in any solution in the near future, I directly emailed Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, himself. He responded in an hour and I was forwarded to the head of customer care and an engineer, and within a few hours they sent me a new version with a 2-month trial period.

I'm having the same issues trying to re-authorize 3DTV play after having my boot drive crash. This is only the 2nd use of the serial number and it won't authorize. How can I make use of this software I paid for NVidia?

Ok, I did a clean Windows 10 install and now I can't activate 3DTV Play anymore. I'm getting this licensing server unavailable message.
When will they fix this? I paid for this and I want to use it.
I got a refund because I do not think they will fix this anytime soon. It has been almost two months already since the first people had this issue. How hard can it be to fix this. It is probably not high on their priority list. With all the new Windows 10 installations a lot more people will probably have this issue and maybe they will give this issue the proper attention.
