LightBoost monitor owners: Zero Motion Blur Tweak for 2D!!!! (strobe backlight CRT style motion on
Hello, It works -- I got zero motion blur!!!! on an LCD! -- The perfect zero motion CRT feel. TechNGaming has posted an article about how to override LightBoost (normally used for 3D) to make it operate in 2D mode. A strobe backlight eliminates motion blur, so if you're doing fast-twitch action video games: http://www.techngaming.com/home/guide/tips/eliminate-motion-blur-while-gaming-with-nvidia-lightboost-r485 I have a Casio Exilim EX-FC200, with 480fps and 1000fps -- Here's a High Speed Video of LightBoost strobe backlight in operation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD5gjAs1A2s Thanks Mark Rejhon BlurBusters.com Blog

TechNGaming says:
Yes, I’ve finally found the holy grail of gaming in 2D mode on an LCD monitor: zero motion blur! It literally displays motion as good as a CRT and then some. I was so stoked when I first saw the effect today, that my jaw literally dropped and I played my game open mouthed, it was that awesome! This combined the crystal clarity of an LCD display with the motion sharpness and smoothness of a CRT, all at a fast 120Hz screen refresh rate. This is something I’d never seen before and looks truly amazing – better than even a CRT.
I also put an oscilloscope with a photodiode on my ASUS VG278H and BENQ XL2411T (I own both) and the LightBoost strobes are 2.4 milliseconds long -- almost as short as CRT phosphor decay!!! EDIT: When I adjusted my LightBoost setting in my OSD to 10%, my LightBoost strobe lengths is only 1.4 milliseconds. But the image is too dim. I like LightBoost=50% best as a compromise. Thanks, Mark Rejhon The BlurBusters Blog

One last thing -- I've now ordered a BENQ XL2411T monitor, which I hear has 1ms strobes for LightBoost, so I'll be doing 1000fps camera tests on it, as well as oscillscope photodiode tests on it. NOTE: This thread doesn't really belong in the 3D Vision forum, because people who are never interested in 3D, are also interested in LightBoost.

Hi PPL, As I do play those 2D games sometimes I had trouble that 3D Vision is enabling itself in 2D games. With combination of CNTRL+T I turn off 3D Vision, but then picture is much dimmer that normal 2D picture and to get normal and bright 2D picture back I have to switch the HZ in monitor from 120 -> 60 - > 120hz thru windows display panel. I really got frustrated with this so I decided to play around a little bit with Nvidia Control panel. In 3D stereoscopic options I switched option from Asus 120hz LCD to 3D vision Discover. So when I start game in 2D it turns the green and red 3D effects, but when I disable 3D Vision with CNTRL+T I get bright 2D picture and then i ran those PixPerAn tesst with real 3D Vision and 3D Vision discovered and I couldn’t see the difference between those tests so that got me thinking is light boost enabled also in 3D Vision Discover 2D mode . Maybe my eyes couldn't notice any difference, but those who have some sort of measurement equipment, should test this workaround and report does that trick work and is light boost enabled while monitor is in 3D Discover 2D mode? Thanks, …..

I don't really see any difference, other than the colour and brighness being wrong like they always are in 3D mode.
I don't really see any difference, other than the colour and brighness being wrong like they always are in 3D mode.
This is a disadvantage, but can be calibrated using 'Contrast' in monitor, and also the nVidia Control Panel color adjustment settings, to look better. You can turn off LightBoost when you go back to desktop, and turn it on when you enter a video game where you need motion blur elimination.
