Acer XG270HU 1440p - Mix with 2 x Acer XB270Hb 1080p for 3D Vision Surround possible?
Not long ago I set up my 3D Vision Surround Setup consisting of 3x Acer XB270Hb 1080p 144Hz 3D monitors and I am quiet happy with my purchase. As you might remember I was contemplating for a long time if I should go with the brilliance of a 27" 1440p monitor or if I should go with a 1080p 3D Vision Surround Setup. Finally I went the Surround-way and as I said I am quiet happy with my decision.
But that doesn't mean I am not longer interested in 1440p 3D Vision!
I just got aware today that the Acer XG270HU has just been released here in Germany and now I am contemplating the options...AGAIN!
The Acer XG270HU is a 27" 1440p 144Hz monitor sporting a TN-panel (just like my XB270Hb 144Hz monitors). The only difference between these monitors seems to be the fact that the XB270Hb are 1080p only, while the new XG270HU is 1440p. Also the new one is nearly borderless which would be a dream come true for my Surround setup since I normally have my side monitors put behind the center monitor so I would loose nearly any distracting bezels if I could implement the new XG270HU into my setup.
Also I could play in 1440p from time to time without sacrificing my 3D Vision surround setup.
There are two questions now and I couldn't find the answer yet:
1. Does anyone know if the new Acer XG270HU does support 3D Vision (don't see any reason why it shouldn't. It features a TN-panel, 144Hz and seems to be pretty identical to the recent Acer models that also were 3D Vision ready)
2. Would it be possible to mix and match two of my 27" 1080p Acer monitors (side monitors) with the new XG270HU 1440p monitor (center monitor) for 3D Vision Surround? Would it be possible to run the 1440p Acer monitor in 1080p-mode for 3D Vision Surround-use with my 1080p side monitors?

D'oh, my bad.
Odd there's no mention of 3D Vision then, unless there really is an issue with 1440p monitors and 3D Vision (all the odd SLI issues the Swift is having).

Just called the Acer Support but just as I expected the guy really seemed clueless when I asked him about the XG270HU and 3D Vision support. He negated the support but when he told me that he wasn't sure about support for 3D TV play I knew he obviously had no clue.....
Is there even a chance the monitor is capable of 3D Vision out of the box if not officially certified? Are there any monitors on the market that are not certified but support 3D Vision out of the box just like a certified one?
In various unboxing videos you can clearly see that there is no 3D Vision logo on the box and since 3D Vision isn't mentioned anywhere I think it's safe to say that it is not officially certified.

No; they are completely differing monitors in terms of internal features/tech, it must be "certified" in order for the Nv driver software to recognize the monitor as "3D Capable".
The XB270Hb 1080p monitor supports Nvidia 3D Vision, while the XG270HU 1440p monitor does not have "ANY" 3D capabilities.
Considering the XG270HU does not have Nv 3D vision support, nor it's own 3D capabilities (chip); the unit is not compatible with 3dTV Play either.
Your best option at this point for "3D surround" would be to simply purchase another XB270Hb

As I said I already have 3D Vision Surround completely set up consisting of 3 x Acer XB270Hb. I was just wondering if it would be possible to switch one of my XB270Hb (center monitor) with the Acer 1440p monitor so I could use it either as a single monitor in 1440p or in conjunction with my two Acer side monitors in 1080p for 3D Vision surround. Since the Acer XG270HU is out of the equation now (due to not being 3D Vision certified) the question still remains:
Would it be possible to integrate the 1440p Asus ROG Swift with my two 1080p Acer side monitors for 3D Vision Surround. That way I could switch between crispy 1440p gaming on single monitor and 1080p gaming in 3D Vision Surround.
In other words: is it possible to run a native 1440p 3D monitor (ROG Swift) in non-native 1080p 3D so I could use it together with my 1080p Acer side monitors for 3D Vision Surround? Nvidia always says that you need 3 monitors of the exact same make and model (this is what I currently use). Then there are users (bloody from 3D Vision blog) who are saying that it also works with different models. Also with the ROG Swift/XB270Hb-combination we have monitors with different native resolutions.

In 2D it chops the surround monitors down to the lowest rez of any of the three, and you get black bars on the rest. So even if it's possible in 3D you're very very likely going to get a letterbox effect on the Swift, as opposed to a cropped image on the side monitors (no matter what surround is rendering everything as a single resolution spread across the various monitors).

Ive been scouring the Internet for 1440 3d monitor coming out this year for a while and it doesnt seem like there's anything in the works however the acer xg270hu looks promising MrInfinit3 where is your source that says the xg270hu model is not 3d. from what I can find there isn't anything to either confirm or deny 3d. And god knows many of us are looking for a cheaper more reliable 1440 alternative to the rog swift

Acer Support says it is not 3D Vision certified. Also take a look at the various unboxing videos where you can see the monitor's box. No 3D Vision logo at all! Looking at the specs on every sellers' webpage you can find not a single one who says it is 3D Vision certified. Even on Acer's own webpage there is no mentioning of 3D Vision!

Yeah I just don't want to give up hope on an affordable reliable 1440 3d monitor, I love my surround setup but I'd also love to see 3d at 1440. I had hoped there'd be at least 1 monitor this year but 3d vision really is heading south. Thank god for all the guys over at helix blog that we can even have games to play in 3d at at the quality developers should provide
