You may want to consider one of the newer 3D capable 4K UTVs, like Samsung or LG. The key specs are the display's input lag (often very difficult to find), its 3D ghosting performance (also not specified), and the NATIVE 3D modes supported - any 3D input signal is converted to device's native display modes. 240 Hz really does not mean anything - my older plasma VT25 HDTV had a 600 Hz refresh rate (every pixel flashed 10x because of plasma's great decay response of screen/great motion performance). With HDMI-based devices (every HDTV and UTV), 3DTV Play is the key software app, rather than 3D Vision. Unfortunately, 3DTV Play technology has not been updated beyond the aging HDMI 1.4a spec, and it has a significant performance bug with its 1080p24 mode (one of two HDMI 1.4a 3D modes) - see https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/809649/3d-vision/please-add-hdmi-2-0-support-to-3dtv-play-/post/4461236/#4461236. I have both Sony and LG UTVs. They both are great passive (RealD-compatible) 3D displays (low ghosting and great display performance in Gaming mode). Both displays looks great with full-frame 1080p60 content (via R9-290X with Ignition, not supported by 3DTV Play yet). Note: LG now has working manual 3D format selection - so my prior issue has been resolved.

In my opinion, 1080p24 gaming is acceptable for many games - IF the desktop and controls operate at 60 HZ (see link in comment #4 above). I used this gaming mode for several years, before AMD finally supported full-frame 1080p30 and 1080p60. Note that checkerboard formats, like SBS and TB, have reduced resolution (and some downsampling aliasing, if no low-pass filter is first applied) in specific spatial directions, depending upon format used for 3D data. I prefer uncompressed, full frame data.

I have found the best deals by getting the last of old (2014) models, rather than new (2015) models. For example, see http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-49UB8500-49-Inch-Ultra/dp/B00II6VY2G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424574777&sr=8-1&keywords=49UB8500. The passive 3D (RealD compatible glasses) is very convenient. Note LG's prior problem preventing manual 3D format detection (post #4) has been fixed...

How about a 120" screen instead? For 3D, even today, I still recommend a projector. You'll find that the best setups are 720p, which sounds terrible, but in practice gives you a better experience than 4K TVs. Depends upon how close you need to sit, but if you can sit 10 feet away from a 120 inch screen, you'll be amazed at how good it is.

Bulb life, brightness, and geometric alignment (if using dual projectors) can be an issue with projection systems. Some type of suitable reflective/screen surface is required, also. The human eye has much higher resolving power than 720p over 10 ft screen size - see Table 1 in my HDMI 2.0 discussion thread. Personally, when viewing 55 in UTV from around 4 ft, I readily notice the visual difference in both 4K vs 1080p 2D content, and full-frame 1080p vs 720p 3D game data. If NVIDIA finally updates 3DTV Play to HDMI 2.0, these 4K UTVs offer the potential of 2X 1080p resolution, as well.

So, do most of the 3d displays work with 3D vision 2 now? I seem to remember something about only DLP tv's working with it. Is this old info?

I'm not a very big fan of LG though. I would prefer a 3d Samsung 240hz - 1080p.
