Need advice about this VG278HE
So I upgraded to said monitor, and got a separate 3d vision 2 kit (Love the pyramid emitter). I've had it for a little over a week now, but yesterday I've started seeing an oval shape in my screen. I had recalled a while ago (a year?) a topic of similar discussion, and when I noticed it, I realized this was the same... eh. Anyway, I've looked at all kinds of forums and stuff about what people have done. Most have returned the monitor for replacements, in which the same thing would happen. Seems all too common with this display. However, some of the people who actually kept the monitor said after a while it went away and all was fine. Now I've got a couple weeks before my newegg rma date, and of course a bit longer with normal warranty. Anyone else here have this monitor and tell me what they did? :/

I just bought three refurbished units from Amazon, none of them exibit this symptom. I purposely looked for refurbs because I figured they would not have this problem, I think I was right ;)

I would return the shit out of it, its not like they're cheap. None of them seem to have brilliant backlighting, looking through various threads of people posting what the particular one they have looks like on a black screen they're all pretty uneven. Mine has light vertical strobing down the middle, and pretty even backlight bleed around the edges, its annoying but I can get used to it. You'll kick yourself a few months down the line when your stuck with a monitor that looks bad.

I can safely say, I do not have this problem at all. The bleed is incredibly uniform and constant, and very mild (relative to my previous aw2310) Can I ask what monitor you upgraded from? Edit: (ah the Samsung I guess, other then the backlight bleed, how does the Asus compare with the Samsung?) I would definitely advise to return it, it clearly is not the case with all of these monitors, and judging by the fact that 99% of people would never write a positive review on something (only negative) i'm quite sure this effects only a minority of the monitors. It may effect batches though (which is why a replacement from the same store may exit the same problem, just a guess). If you don't return it, one piece of good news is, I remember hearing that a few peoples problems went away, or significantly improved over time... but to counter that, other people said it got worse over time... swings and roundabouts ;-)

I have the same monitor and its fine. I know some people got the oval shape when they had the brightness way up, have you tried to lower the brightness and set the contrast correctly? And most LED backlit screens have some uneven areas, even my £1300 52" Samsung LE52A656 has uneven backlighting when you have a totally black screen, but the image quality is amazing.

Many people have brightness at 100% at first because it looks so much "shinier"... I did this too. Trust, it kills your eyes and is not very pleasant. I turned mine right down to 0 (night time mode) and leave it on that for most things, and it is so much more pleasant to use. You can get a tan on 100% brightness on the Asus, I know I did ;-)

Compared to my Samsung, the asus is night and day difference in 3d. Crosstalk reduced, brightness increased dramatically. I never keep any of my monitors at 100%. I have very sensitive eyes when it comes to light. 3d vision 1's "darkness" never bothered me as much as other people. When I got this asus, the first thing I did was reduce brightness to about 30, contrast to about 65. Even then... sometimes the white is still too bright for me. So, I have been running it at low settings. I even have Lightboost at only 2, since it's so much brighter than 3dV 1. I was absolutely loving the 3d image upgrade this monitor provided until this oval thing happened. Well, I've got a good while before my rma deadline. I'll wait till next week, see if it either starts expanding, shrinking, or fading... whatever. Most likely I'll keep getting replacement till I get a solid one. This monitor really could be the best 3d vision monitor hands down.

Thats good to hear Acidbong, as my friend just pulled a trigger on one of these. He's in Germany, and a bitch to get hold of, but I will try and get in contact with him and hopefully will get to check it out. I will let you know what my experience is with regards to back light bleed. I image that oval thing can be very annoying in dark scenes. If you do RMA it good luck with your new one!

I think the asus and acer is very equivalent panels from what I've read.

Even level 1 is twice as bright as my 3d vision 1 setup.

Ok.. well the oval is still here and even more apparent now than before. I've submitted my RMA and am getting a replacement. Really sucks that it's going to take almost a couple weeks for the entire process. Crossing fingers in hopes i get a good monitor this time.

Aww, never nice to get a bad model and have to go through the hoops. it will be well worth it though when you get a good one. That oval thing is likely only a minority, my asus panel was complety perfect and still is 1 year later, despite their being some vocal reports of this problem on forums. Best of luck.
