A single GTX480 SC -or- 2 GTX470s in SLI for 3D Vision?
2 / 2
Would 3-way SLI GTX470s over any performance gains over standard SLI'd 470s in 3D Vision gaming?
No, you would need to go to 3D Surround to notice any difference.
Assuming you are overclocking, SLI 470's can handle anything right now for one screen.

Thanks - yes, I've got a i7 920 OC'd to 4GHz, or did you mean OC'ing the GPUs? I try and keep the GPUs close to stock mainly for folding, and some games like BFBC2 have problems sometimes with OC'd GPUs.
Would 2 GTX470s in SLI give me a very noticable performance increase over a single GTX480 SC?

I think somewhere in the ballpark of a 30% improvement over a single 480 w/o overclocking the GPU's.
I have no idea what the PPD are for these cards. That should enter into your decision. You will need a 750 watt PSU from a reputable company for SLI 470's and an 850 for SLI 480's. Antec, XFX, Corsair...

Definitely get two GTX470 or at least GTX460, one GTX480 is not enough for 3D vision (especially ready one) games
And dont forget to overclock them to at least 800Mhz on GPU /shifty.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':shifty:' />

The only problem I had with my settup was that I had a Corsair HX 1000w PSU which was fine with one GTX480.
But when I got the second one while I was gaming the PSU started to get really hot and started to smell like it was cooking.
Which is why I bought the Enermax PSU.
Ok it may have been the that the Corsair PSU was getting old or something but it runs my other SLI rig just fine which has 2 x GTX275

I have heard of problems with the dual rail HX1000. I don't remember what the problems were but several very knowledgeable people said to stay away from it. My HX850 handles SLI GTX480's fine, JonnyGuru gave it a 10 for performance. Of course, Enermax is the Mt. Olympus of PSU's. :)

but i'd still go 470 sli if I was you, much cheaper and a bit cooler, performance on a 1080p display will be similar
