Is IR emitter from Vision *really* needded?
Was wondering if I could get some help on this one. I purchased TV3D play software last month, fiddled with it for awhile, trying to get Guild Wars and Mafia II to work ok. Never could get it working with GW, and finally it started detecting MW2. (Using most updated drivers on a GTX280 hooked to a Samsung UN55C7000 TV through a PIONEER VSX30 receiver). Mafia II looks fantastic in 3D, love it, tried the other day to get Guild Wars to work and came back here to ask which is when I noticed that now they've added a note to the main 3DTV page that it requires one of the IR emitters from a 3D vision set up. I know this isn't the case because obviously Mafia II works fine without it. Unfortunately I'm JUST past the 30 day refund mark on this. Is there something I'm not doing right to get this working with guild wars? I can't believe that Nvidia couldn't come up with a solution that didn't require an IR emitter when two other drivers from other companies did.Is that why Guild Wars isn't working properly?

On another note, I was also hoping for a quick click *enable 3-d/Disable 3-d* button in the tray icon, but instead I get this long winded, Go into your driver settings and set this to this...blah blah"

3DTV Play is suppose to be a software only solution, no 3D Vision emitter or glasses required for any game. The note you mentioned makes sense only in the context of a person who does not have 3DTV Play installed, and does have a 3D Vision emitter. Could you provide a link to this note?
My guess is that your problem has something to do your receiver. As a test, I would go straight from your vga card to the HDMI1/DVI connection on your TV.
All this aside, you have a bigger problem. Nvidia deliberately crippled 3DTV Play for all 2010 3D Ready Samsung HDTVs. 3DTV PLay will force you to play games at only 24 frames per eye making games almost unplayable. The only fix under 3DTV Play is to downres the output to 720P, but this doesn't work cause the TV is 1080P, resulting in grotesque image quality. So if you do nothing else, get a free trial of either fully functional, non-crippled TriDef 3d or iZ3D. I've tried both and they work quite well. If you try these alternative 3D Drivers sequentially, you'll have six weeks of free, full quality gaming instead of 3DTV play.
Nvidia has suggested that they may or may not uncripple 3DTV Play, so after your trial periods run out, you can reassess the situation.

There's an error of omission on the Nvidia site leading to confusion.
Resolving this confusion starts with understanding the difference between 3D Vision and 3DTV Play.
3D Vision is a comprehensive 3D solution, it works with any TV or monitor because it has it's own emitter and glasses. If your TV has its own emitter and glasses, then you don't use the nvidia emitter and glasses.
3DTV Play is a software only solution for 3D. 'Software only' means no nvidia hardware, the TVs glasses and emitter must be used.
The complication is that 3D Vision driver is different from the 3DTV Play driver: 3D Vision has fully functional hi quality display mode, 3DTV Play has only low quality display. So for all practical purposes, one is must buy 3D Vision to get full quality, no cheap way out. And if you have a Samsung/Mits/Lg TV, you still have to do a relatively easy software/hardware hack to access superior 3D Vision driver even if you have 3D Vision kit. If you have a non-Samsung/Mits/Lg HDTV, then you are doomed to bad quality regardless, it's hardwired into the TV.

Andrew, If a clarification is made, will you post the clarification to this thread? It would be much appreciated and I will continue to watch this for a possible resolution. (I will also keep trying to get Guild Wars working with the current software/driver set!) If I make any progress I will post here as well. Thank you.
