Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Demo results.
(re-evaluated)
FIRST OFF TURN SHADOWS OFF OR ITS UNPLAYABLE.
Long story short.
3D world is beautiful.
A few minor effects can have nasty effects in areas with alot of it(lighting)

Not certain if a profile will fix these effects. Hopefully nvidia will let us know. If you get better results or have different opinion feel free to bump.

Game is fun. Seems to be mix of rift(mmo) + skyrim. If you like skyrim/ mmos(and don't mind that its single player) give it a chance. Voice acting and overall qualitity is very high.

AS OF RIGHT NOW I'D RATE IT 7/10 3D. "IF" LIGHTING IS FIXED 9/10.(IT MAY BE A SIMPLE .INF EDIT OR NVIDIA DRIVER FIX)
I WILL BE PLAYING GAME IN 3D ON RELEASE.

Really nice DEMO ;0)

But this is not gonna be playable in 3D, so i will pass on this one :0(

The 3D is all over the place in this DEMO, and i really dont think Nvidia can fix this one ...

From the amount of time I played the only deal breaker was lighting. There was so small other stuff but lighting made it unplayable with it. Ill experiment further with .exe name changing laterz.

O I see what you mean sleeper. Turn off shadows. I did soon as I started it up.

Only issues with shadows off are
Lighting(deal breaker)
Water(Im used to this)

It sounds a lot like Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga as far as gameplay. That one had some big issues with S3D but a lot of it was playable. (Screenshot gallery on 3DVLive)

I gave it another shot. Their is no real water issue(this was lighting off water that I saw earlier). Only problem is lighting(with shadows turned off) Its not as bad as I first made it out to me. I went in with high expectations. Its much better then 2d. Especially outdoors. Beginning area didnt look to how cause of to many lanterns(lighting issues) However its very playable.
7/10 3d with shadows off.

Will I be playing this in 3d on release? Yes.

Hopefully nvidia/we can figure an edit to turn off the "lighting" effect(or reduce) Game would be a solid 9/10.

I prefered to play the demo with the iZ3D driver / 3DVision glasses combination. There are also issues with lighting but they seem to be less prominent especially when using lower separation. I also could turn on post processing without issues caused by bloom effects. I also didn't notice the issues with water surfaces and highlighted objects/characters I noticed using the Nvidia driver. Regarding the issues with lighting (even in outdoor areas and during daytime)I would rate the game as fair as it is only playable in S3D with lower depth settings. Quite disappointing if You know how amazing this graphic style could look in excellent S3D like Fable 3 offered it.

My original display name is 3d4dd - for some reason Nvidia changed it..?!

*Sigh* Arcania looked a lot worse in 3D than this demo does. The problem is that the developers of Arcania took it upon themselves to make the game 3D-compatible. I posted a thread in the Amalur forum in the middle of last year asking to make this game 3D Vision Ready. Well we know how those threads turn out. Even after explaining how making a game 3D Vision Ready doesn't affect people playing it without 3D and naming off games like Metro 2033, Batman:Arkham Asylum, etc., the typical respone was the usual "3D is a gimmick", "I don't want to be forced to play a 3D game", etc.

I bet this game wouldn't even take as much work as something like Arcania did but without the developers showing any interest our only hope is that Nvidia put the feelers out to them and offer to help them make it so but I don't think the game is considered a major title to even consider this.

Played through most of the demo last night, the 3D as mentioned has issues with dynamic lighting effects rendering in one eye. From what I saw, shadows are rendered in 2D. There's also some transparency halos when the character is in front of water. The lighting issues are much more pronounced indoors, once you get outdoors they're not nearly as bad. There's a few issues with 2D icons and cutscene depth could be pushed back a bit, but these issues aren't as bad as most games actually.

I wasn't impressed with the game overall though, it actually reminded me a LOT of Lord of the Rings Conquest if any of you have played that. Even the text and the sword tracers. I think the game has a lot of potential in terms of combat, upgrades, and gear itemization but the graphics and overall polish of the game just aren't where they should be for a 2011/2012 game imo. It just gives a lot of the same vibe as Dark Void, where the production values just aren't where they should be for a shipping title.

In any case, I wouldn't buy it at all in its current state; if the devs went and fixed the issues in 3D I'd consider buying it for $20-$25 in a Steam/Origin sale. If you guys want to play a beat-em-up/hack n' slash/RPG lite similar to this with near-perfect 3D Visuals you should check out Dungeon Siege 3. Its ~$20 on Amazon and activates on Steam.

Tried renaming the exe for like 20 titles. Every time the same result. So I don't think nVidia will be able to fix this sadly. Over all the game looks..meh..interesting. But I would prefer LOR War in the North more: almost perfect 3D, has co-op and its the same style. Also like LOR the game is completely un-playable in Surround.. Very high FOV 200+ in actual gameplay; extremely low fov in cutscenes/dialogs and bad image alignment in prerendered cutscenes.
For the Surround issue I developed a tool to fix the FOV that can be found on WSG, but the 3D cannot be improved except by the developers.

I created a thread on the forum asking the developers to make this game 3D Vision Ready. I know there will be some posts from people scoffing at 3D for a variety of reasons but we should at least let them know we would like to see it supported.
