Low FPS during outdoor environments in SP Black Ops
O.K. I gave up on wanting or waiting for a fix from Treyarch in regards with poor performance in the SP portion of Black Ops. MP is fine. I am now playing the SP game in 3D and have noticed that FPS dips during the outdoor sequences to 10-20 FPS. When indoors it's fine 40-60 FPS. Anyone have any config tweak that may help improve that or setting recommendations in the UI that can specifically target that. I tried the seta r_fog_disable "1" tweak. No FPS improvement. I know that in the end it may be my Q6600 that is holding me back and that frustrates me cause it shouldn't be.
My system:
GTX 470
Q6600 3.2 (Overclock)
4 Gigs Ram
HDA Explosion 7.1 card (Sound sucks in this game BTW, no 5.1)
Windows 7 64bit

Same here, my frame rate is all over the place. Its fine indoors but some of the outdoor levels are really choppy. When i disable 3d it runs perfectly. Reminds me a bit of Ghostbusters in that respect. The slowdown when activiating 3d seems disproportional compared to other games.
Otherwise it is pretty good in S3D, nowhere near an excellent imo due to the frame rate and the COD crappy ironsights.
We need more games like BFBC2.

Afaik there´s an issiue with the game and the 400 series of Nvidia. Alot got the problem that the GPU isn´t really stressed but the CPU is totally worked out. I´ve got this problem also. My CPU is dieing while my GPU is on about 50% of GPU usage in average, on highest game settings ofc. Sometimes I´ve got short but massive Frame Drops, and when I go to desktop and then back to game I always have 2 FPS for around 5-10 secs. Can´t even move the mouse to the continiue button without waitng some time to see if I hit it :D But well, when I don´t got those FPS Drops I got 75 FPS stabil. Massive Framedrops usually show CPU problem.

What's even weirder is that Black Ops ran well for me with nearly max settings in outdoor settings (at 1920x1080), yet my setup tanks in Portal and in modded Half-Life 2 and Fallout 3.
I have almost the same setup as you minus the cpu, which is a Phenom II X4 955. I don't know how to explain why it tanks so badly. In Fallout 3 I could be looking at a wall and it's almost as if it's rendering everything behind the wall at once, so the performance tanks horribly. Yet if I turn away from the wall I get more acceptable frames. I suspect that the driver (I'm using 266.35 BETA) I'm using is borked somehow. Other games, even BC2, run great in Stereo mode.

I thought the fps were also a little choppy and bizarrely with no set pattern ( I got an I7 930 and gtx 470)
so I emptied my change bottle and picked up another 470 for dual sli mode.
Problem solved now it runs like a dream, no choppiness at all on any map.
It did make me wonder if a single 470 is choppy what's a slower card like on black ops in 3d I wonder.
They say the min spec is like an 8800gt if I'm right ?
I shudder to think how it would run
Unless it is a 400 series black ops bug maybe.
Tho like I say, the sli 470s are silk, faultless.
