I am writing this post to express the complete satisfaction I have had lately with the nVidia 3d vision combined with the GTX 480 cards. I started 3d vision with 2 GTX 280 SSC's in SLI which was pretty impressive in itself, but I decided when a one-card solution was better, I was going to make the plunge again. So, here I am a month later, just having installed my second GTX 480 and all I can say is WOW! One GTX 480 was maxing games that 2 GTX 280's could not. GTA IV seemed to be a good benchmark for this due to the fact it's graphics settings are dependent on the amount of ram your GPU has. The GTX 280's would play all graphics settings on high with 60 percent view distance in 3d @ 1920x1080 120 Hz. One GTX 480 plays all settings at very high with max view distance, and does so smoothly. Flight Sim X finally has a setup that is worthy of its demanding settings! All settings are on Ultra in 3d and it looks absolutely amazing (bloom and dx10 preview off). Although the nvidia 3d vision compatibility warning states Dirt 2 is not recommended, with shadows and night lighting on low, the game works quite well in 3d. Day races are perfect, while the night races still have a few issues with reflections rendering separate from the vehicles. Combine Dirt 2 with a force-feedback racing wheel and 3d vision, the driver in-seat view is a whole new dimension of gaming. I was happy with one of the GTX 480's, but once I saw how amazing the 3d vision was with one monitor, I quickly ordered a second card and two more monitors to be ready for the 256 driver release next week. Consider me another one of the many anxiously waiting to try 3d Surround! Kudos nVidia developers, it has been worth the wait in my book! :D

Thanks for the post Obone! I will check out NFS Shift. I always liked the NFS games and I bet my Logitech G27 racing wheel would go great with that game. Does NFS Shift have a good in-car view for 3d? That is my favorite view in Dirt 2 and would pretty much make my decision in buying it. Flight Sim X 3d c0ckpit view is friggin awesome too (especially with all settings maxed!). Man I can't wait for Monday!

Yeah, I am glad you brought this up. I read where people are getting 1 to 2 fps more with the i7 processors, and I had to ask myself if it is really worth it to upgrade motherboard, processor and ram(I came to a resounding no). I figure I might as well use this rig until the processor and ram is the bottleneck and that has not been the case with any of the games I have tried. I have tested the most demanding games on the market (Crysis, Crysis Warhead, GTA IV, Flight Sim X, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Borderlands, Just Cause 2, etc etc...) and the processor is never even close to being maxed. I have also found that not overclocking has helped in the longevity of my system. I figure if you get good solid components and you can max all your favorite games, why overclock? Running the GTA IV benchmarks is a great tool of real-life computer usage and the GPU's show they are pulling the most weight in the high 80 percents, whereas my ram and processor are in the high 60 and low 70 percent usages. Bottom line, if you game at high resolution, the GPU's do most of the work and the 3 ghz quad core and 4 gigs of DDR2800 are more than capable of keeping up with the new GPU's. I have heard that lower resolutions will eat more processor power, but why the hell would I run low res?! I got the 680i SLI mobo with 2 GTX 8800's when they were brand new and then went to the GTX 280 SSC's. I am really happy with the jump up to the GTX 480's, it doesn't feel like a side-grade whatsoever. This old system still rocks!

Awesome news. I plan on getting a GTX 470 as soon as the sale of my soul is approved. /devil.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I know it won't be quite as awesome as a GTX 480, but I hope it is a noticeable upgrade from my GTX 275 (which does great, but leaves me wanting better.) I can't wait to try out some GTAIV when I finally get it because that game rocks in 3D, overall.

Brian, you should be happy with that upgrade, especially running GTA IV. That extra ram will come in handy for those graphics settings. I have noticed a few shadow issues, mainly the daytime car shadows split in two when driving at high speeds, but other than that, GTA IV is totally awesome in 3d. It is going to be fun testing all my old games out again! Happy Gaming!

Yes the c0ckpit veiw in Shift is awesome, it's incredibly detailed, from hologram type speedos, to those oldschool car radios you have to push a lever down to change station. I reckon I've done 200+ hours so far and I'm still loving it :).
BTW have you tried Wings of Prey ? It's a great game but the 3D has a couple of problems.

Sick! Thanks for the info, looks like I am getting Shift, hahaha. I will look into Wings of Prey as well, sounds like it is a combat flight sim and I have been looking forward to newer combat flight sims. Played Starwars Battlefront 2 last night, man was it pretty in 3d! It is an older game, but the game gun sights work perfectly (no need to use the nVidia laser sight) and it looks really clean with the settings maxed in 3d.

Lol, I read it first as O-Bone, now I can see it is OB1 as in the man Kenobi. I bet Battlefront II is very cheap now that it is so old. It doesn't get much better than slaying hundreds of Gungans with a light saber HAHAHAH, DIE JARJAR /devil.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ! Thanks alot for those links, there is a lot of good info on 3d game compatibility there. I can see we are in for some real treats with this 3d! WOOT! Oh yeah, I am getting NFS Shift soon, thanks for the info on that, I am all about the c0ckpit view with 3d.
UPDATE: NFS Shift is downloading on my steam account!
NEW UPDATE: Good call! This game is running with graphics completely maxed and looks absolutely beautiful in c0ckpit view with 3d! Works great with the Logitech G27 wheel too.

Yeah, I had Edimensional glasses since around the year 2000. Doom 3 was awesome in 3D even though my PC at the time couldn't provide decent frame rates.
Damn you Nvidia and your lack of OpenGL support with 3D Vision...

It doesn't get much better than slaying hundreds of Gungans with a light saber HAHAHAH, DIE JARJAR
UPDATE: NFS Shift is downloading on my steam account!
NEW UPDATE: Good call! This game is running with graphics completely maxed and looks absolutely beautiful in c0ckpit view with 3d! Works great with the Logitech G27 wheel too.

they didn't have the digital frame glasses years ago, where you doing the lame red and blue glasses 3d? The new lcd glasses don't distort colors and are much better.

Yes they did. For example:

I bought my first pair of wired LCD shutter glasses that worked by intercepting the VGA signal to a CRT monitor back around 2000.
