Humm... a bit of a scare - while in the other room the cat knocked the power out for the projector - when I went to turn it back on I got a "LAMP FAILURE" - no worries it DID finally come back on (and I likely took a hit on lamp life), lucky I have a UPS to plug the thing into.
With everything I like turned up TR looks even more impressive on the larger screen. I measured one of the bedrooms this afternoon to see if it'd fit there. Better control of light and I'd gain the use of my TV. Ether way I'm really going to have to ceiling mount the thing to get rid of the pedestal of stuff its sitting on. (really annoying)

Im not sure if its true but someone told me this when I first started and it makes sense. If projector gets disconnected you should leave it unplugged for a few minutes. Normally the fan cools it off otherwise you are starting it hot.

Makes sense.
Anyone run into resolution 'oddities' on different games? One or more suddenly decided to output 120hz instead of frame packing. Odd. Adding an HDMI splitter then tossed me into 'discover' mode. A reload of my .inf file seemed to fix it.
Two more speakers, subwoofer and a slight drop ceiling mount and I can move it into a bedroom. Whats a good wall color? My current screen is flat/dull/off white the conference rooms at work are white and I've seen flat grey mentioned.

Edit: nope strike that. Directly from the Acer manual:
It is now safe to unplug the power cord.
Warning: Do not turn on the projector immediately after
powering off.
Note: If you wish to turn the projector back on, you must wait for
60 seconds at least to press the "Power" button to restart the
projector.
Black! Or as dark as you're comfortable with.
White is the worst. Light from the screen bounces off light colored walls and back to the screen, reducing contrast. It's little different from using the projector with a light on.

AVS Forums has a lot of great threads/post on paint and/or material to use for a screen. Users have come up with formulas like Mississippi Mud and others. Users have posted good results using canvas or lycra material among others. Youtube is also a great source for DIY screens.
BTW the W1070 is $888 now at Fry's. So if the short throw isn't doing it for you, now would be a good time to swap.

While I have a room to re-arrange (and a ceiling mount to get) I dropped by the AVSforum to take a peek and will order/buy some paint soon. (some great information over there at AVSforum site) I thought about just getting some fabric but I think paint might be the less expensive option. However this: http://www.buildyourownprojectionscreen.com/front-projection-matte-white-fiberglass-screen-material looks like a quick and easy way to go. No painting and already smooth surface with known color+gain and < $50 (well likely more shipped).
Setting up in the bedroom will also let me use my old non-hdmi receiver (all analog inputs) and I can just cable to the PC outputs. No mixed EDID's to worry about. The room has AC so I can control the heat put off by the projector and PC. AND I'll get the use of my TV back.
(sigh) It seems like it never ends...

I very recently got a projector and was using matte paint on the wall for a bit. It was OK actually, but then I went the route of spending $40 on screen material (110"x66") and stapling it to my wall (its dry wall so I could do this), then bounding with black felt. Works really well. Better than the paint - better contrast and blacks for example, and a 'fuller' colour. Not the same as your link, I think it was called 'Carls Place' but I bought it from Amazon. Gain of about 1.0, so not the brightest, but I am also using my projector for kids movie nights etc so the wider angle of view was a factor for me as well. I also got a ceiling mount for about $25 - we also have a cat ;-)

I went ahead and ordered some screen material and found a ceiling mount I liked. After dropping by Jo-Anne fabrics after work I have most the major parts on the way or here.
While I would of loved to afford+use some Stewart screen material, a close look at many of the higher gain materials have a throw distance/screen width requirement that my 1080st would never be able to meet so I just went with a flat white material which could be stapled to the wall.
With my portable table setup I can play with screen sizes/brightness and hopefully come to a compromise as to what I can live with.
I recall all the titles that I currently have loaded/installed looked darn impressive on the 77" screen in the living room but when I moved the setup into a bedroom I ditched the screen and projected a 120" image on the wall. While impressive size wise (gawd that size is way cool!) I was less than impressed with the brightness+color+saturation. Granted its a very imperfect, brown tinted and very dull wall. A quick look at the projector calculator says I went from 53 FL to only 22 FL (not counting the losses of the wall). EGADS! Less than 1/2!! I'm thinking I'll have to settle for a 90" image (41 FL, 2x larger than my 43" Plasma) and I'll get nearly 2x the brightness I'm getting now and hopefully be ok with it.
Fun stuff.

hi guys, i recently purchased the w1080st and I am new to projectors, I have this thing projected on a beige wall with kinda big textures on it, it produces a somewhat dark picture, I am coming from an Asus VG278HE monitor, and I hope this 1.1 gain screen I am getting will improve it by a lot.
I also have a question about EDID overrides, it seems like I will need to install one that I found on this thread https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/693622/3dtv-play-on-tv-superior-to-projector-/?offset=7
I am unsure how to install this , I couldnt find any good instructions, any help is appreciated. thanks.

In that case, white. Definitely white!
