excellent write up, i love reading stuff like this. its almost like im there. still makes me want to get one, but man i wish they could nail the 1080p at a minimum... im always trying to sit closer to my tv for more immersion and a closer to real size for objects, im always trying to pump the convergence so its deeper.
gosh i even play civ5 in 3D...
i hope this oculus gets off the ground, they have my cash

Surround and 3D are two different things.
I consider RE6's 3D issues minor and I can play though it fine (therefore the "low standard" comment)
also, I didn't play Prototype 2 until the helix fix: the game was a mess in terms of 3D vision, but RE6 is very much playable.
since I went surround, it's difficult for me to go back to single screen gaming, except for isometric ARPGs and strategy games. Zeno Clash 2, eqzitara came out with a great fix, but I didn't play the game since it doesn't support Surround. AC3 I play with 2D surround.
lastly, I didn't ask Helifax for a RE:R fix here, he mentioned one in progress, and so I gave the "hopeful" comment. In widescreen forum I do request from time to time since there's a subforum specifically for that (most my requests were never fulfilled though since I only ask when no fix is to be found for very long period of time, such as the Surround fix for Ghostbusters: the Video Game).
*BTW, the first quote of mine is about RE6; the last two are about RE:R...you do know that right?
Its just a sad realization since I work my ass off, and I will continue to do so. That such a bad level of apathy is going on. Like me and Helifax[WideScreenGamer] were talking and the simpler we make it for people the more likely that when things don't work with a simple drag + drop. They will expect us to figure it out.
I'd like to add an alternate viewpoint, since it's my nature to look at things oddly.
I think what you are seeing is actually a good thing. Seriously. I think the number of questions about mods, and simple confusions is happening because of an influx of new gamers who have no idea what they are doing and just jump in here. That means the community is growing and is thus actually improving, even as it gets noisier.
That's also born out by people like me and Pirate and Mike_ taking a look at doing mods ourselves. That's got to be a huge plus, even as we stumble around and ask some dumb questions too. I can't speak for others, but I really wanted to be able to contribute as a way to give back some of the great work that's been done here.
I couldn't be more stoked that we actually have the ability to fix things on our own, without having to wait for these decrepit corporations to get their shit together. Waiting for corporate fixes is the console. You get only what we give you and you'll like it. I hate that model.
Anyway, we can argue about this for a month. I think it's damn well clear that things in 3D land are actually pretty damn good right now. Look at that Helix game list! Incredible!
The future? Who the hell knows? What difference does it make when the present is so awesome?

People make an effort and try, I will guaranteed do the same. Im just realizing now that I need to start letting it go and not bothering when people do not. Alot of people are making it one sided.

Thanks bo3b for the impressions. I use 3D Vision on a projector too and have been very curious about how the experience matches up to the Rift.

I was thinking along the same lines. It wouldn't surprise me at all if there are in fact many more new 3D Vision users over the past year or two through 3D TV Play. People get a new TV that happens to have 3D, so they try it. Or, they got a taste of 3D on consoles and were looking for something better. That how I got here.
The fact that people are pickier and less tolerant of minor issues I think suggests the format is maturing. It's getting better, so people expect it to get better. It doesn't mean people have the right to be a nuisance to modders, but it's probably an annoying consequence of 3D gaming getting better.
Congrats on the new gig. Oh I see you only like it around here when there's drama or a hopeless cause. Lol.
Cheers eqzitara, and your right. It's all a state of mind, and I for one am very happy with the huge catalogue of fixed games over at your site that always appears to be growing. Also, with next gen consoles all x86... I think PC gaming is about to get a lot more rewards from console success. No more 'true ports', more multi-platform and better all round coding (from v. similar architecture). And OR is still a beta, and as a beta it looks fantastic despite its flaws (but it is a beta, so I think the flaws could be made mostly irrelevant.) I know it sounds like vapourware now, but I will make a £50 bet that HL3 will come out and will be fully integrated with OR, and could very well be the killer app needed to launch it to mass market.

I Get your point entirely, there is nothing more frustrating then posts that you end up replying to, taking time to help, that could have been solved by putting in the exact same question into google, as the first hit. It feels like, why should I be doing the simple work for a stranger that they could have easily done for themselves. So I'd say sounds more like a normal person than an ass!
Talking of the apathy that is out there, why don't we do what Palmer Luckey did over in the mtbs forums, and create a new 3D product by 3D lovers for 3D lovers :-) Anyway, as I said, new consoles, new hardware, more power, things aren't all looking bad. If the OR takes off, games will have to be made compatible with 3D anyway to achieve the desired effect, which should filter into our monitors and projectors.

Couple of extra tidbits on the Oculus. Tried out the Virieo driver. Punishing. Alpha quality, which I think they would not disagree. Crashes often, keys don't work, sometimes it runs as an app, sometimes you drop in dlls. Very much a work in progress.
Tried to run HL2 (rated excellent) with Vireio instead of the -vr flag, but could never get it to run properly.
Ran Mirror's Edge, which runs well as long as you do the right incantation for launch. One thing worth noting is that Virieo supports changing converge and separation. Unfortunately I could never seem to dial in anything that wasn't just hammering my eyes. That was even using the SHOCT tool that Neil developed. Definitely got eyestrain there, and you know I've taken an eye beating while futzing with 3D Vision, and this was 2x worse. Can't tell how the game is, can't see straight yet. :->

I think the half life 2 needs the beta build as well as the -vr switch to fully activate it so it allows independent movment of the crosshairs and head. otherwise its just mouse control with the rift.
there was something in the rift forums about opting in to the beta.
