Nvidia Geforce GTX480 graphics card is not compatible with the 3D vision. Having an error getting Nv
Hi Folks,
I just had to reseat my cpus heatsink with new thermal compound because it wasn't attached correctly. "Afterwards my monitor wasn't getting a signal from the computer. I tried a CMOS reset but that didn't work. Then checked and found the beeping from the motherboard indicated there was a problem with either the monitor or graphics card.

So I took out my card and reinstalled it in to a different slot. Monitor came up fine and everything back to normal.

Except I had to reinstall drivers. So I did but now when I go to activate 3D it ends up telling me that the Nvidia Geforce GTX480 graphics card is not compatible with the 3D Vision.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, safe mode, revo uninstaller, driver sweeper and still get the same error but nothing works and I don't remember exactly how I installed it the first time.
thanks Damian.

Do you still have the CD that came with the glasses? Wipe the drivers again then install from that CD. Then you can start playing with upgrading the drivers.

Thanks for the suggestion Zloth, I did try that and it didn't work. I also tried several other driver sets and cd sets of drivers, as well as an upgrade reinstall of Vista and it didn't help at all. The only other option remaining seemed to be a fresh clean install of windows and everything else which I really didn't want to do.

I have however actually re-enabled 3D /woot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> , not by fixing the problem but going around it:

I was in the wizard setup window and decided to muck around and try to enable the discover anaglyph red/blue 3D mode. I kept guessing until
I got the right options in regards to what to you're supposed to see out of the left versus right eye, then selected the correct image (3D box inside other box) and enabled anaglyph 3D. After that I was able to switch the mode over to the shutterglass 3D mode bypassing the whole graphics card/display adapter is incompatible error. The medical test image and test application also work fine now. I did have to disable and re-enable the shutterglass 3D though because it wasn't working properly at first in Oblivion. I even reinstalled the card to a different slot (16x)- it came up with the same error so I just went through the same procedure again (except I remembered I had a pair of cardboard anaglyph glasses and used them so I didn't have to guess).

Now it is working perfectly. /clap.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I think it is a bug or glitch of the drivers and software - an override enable 3D feature would have been good. I'm not sure if other people facing the same problem were able to overcome it /argh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':argh:' /> . It took me about 1-2 weeks going through normal troubleshooting (with help from an Nvidia techie) but in the end the solution wasn't to fix the problem but instead go around it /yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Thanks,
Damian.
