3D bluray movies on PowerDVD no longer work
  1 / 2
Well since nvidia removed 3D Vision, it's impossible to watch 3D movies. I own a 2080Ti obviusly I'm using newest drivers for gaming, I'm not gonna keep hopping between old and new drivers to watch movies. Does anyone know any solution on how to watch movies on 3D now? PowerDVD has no solution, is there any other software or standalone drivers for 3D Vision? This was a very reckless move, to remove a feature, I can understand if it's no longer worked on or updated, but at least leave it in or make it available in the current state with new drivers.

Nvidia intentionally removed 3d vision so it couldn't be used in the newest drivers. "obviously I'm on the latest drivers for gaming" Riddle me this - is there REALLY a game which runs significantly better on the absolute latest drivers? Here's another concept: nvidia breaks a hell of a lot more than they fix with their drivers. The newer you go, the less likely pre-existing features are to work correctly. This far from exclusive to just 3d vision.

Well considering there is a new driver for almost every new big game that gets released, staying on older drivers won't really be ideal. Also with new windows build 1903 I presume you will need WDDM 2.6 driver. If I had my computer only for watching movies, I wouldn't update.

@Kurigan9 Agreed, my point exactly. I've locked myself down to Nvidia with another GPU (GTX 1080) and G-Sync monitor thinking 3D Vision will ensure 3D movie cinema-like experience with other people in the room. VR is successor, that may be true, but not for movies. It is way too expensive for everyone to have his own headset. Furthermore I don't want to be cut from the option to look at others. I'm using PotPlayer instead of PowerDVD or the old Stereoscopic player. It's not just about few more FPS, newer drivers fix bugs - if you play any of recent games, you need them. Moreover even if we wait before upgrading to newer drivers, eventually we will have to upgrade, because new Win10 builds will not support older drivers. I guess we will have to boot to other system having older drivers. Although I'm hoping someone will hack support for this at least unofficially.

Yah, it sucks if your only 3D Display is a monitor that requires Nvidia's emitter and glasses, but let's be honest, there are better devices for 3D Video viewing. Also, why would you want to put those added hours on your gaming display. Buy a 3DTV from Craigslist and a standalone player. Also Intel and AMD integrated graphics on their CPUs are enough for 1080P3D Blu-ray playback, plus way more "Green" than using a Nvidia GPU. Mahe a dedicated HTPC and use your gaming rig for something like gaming.
Here's another concept: nvidia breaks a hell of a lot more than they fix with their drivers. I've just tried 430.39 and found that they even removed HDMI 3D mode, so using an Nvidia card to watch a Blu-ray 3D on a TV or projector is no longer an option with newer drivers. The funny thing about it is even my integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 can do it.

Yah, pretty low blow. They'll certainly loose a few HTPC sales as a result.

Well here is what I'm doing. I have a SSD with Windows 7 (plus old drivers) and another with Windows 10. Wanna play or watch 3D then boot to 7. Want to play with ray tracing, latest drivers etc then boot to 10. All games are on separate SSD. Not perfect but best I could figure out. Btw, I'm new this 3d stuff. Do you just buy a bluray disc drive and rent movies? Is that the easiest way to watch 3d movies?

New driver that give best gaming experiance will only add profile for the game in the driver. We can use the new profiles with the old driver of cause and stay @ 425 for having 3D vision enabled.

I was using an htpc + powerdvd to watch / play 3d and international region locked movies. 1 htpc + 1 usb blueray player simple small setup to rule them all. This setup is not possible anymore, in the end just filling up my living room with crap and plastic! Hurendreckfirma ..

It's really ruthless of Nvidia to simply turn our hardware into garbage. Windows 10 and many games (GTA 5), even newer ones like Tomb Raider have a switch for stereoscopic 3D display. At least they could have waited until Avatar 2 came out and maybe a new better 3D, which finally makes the breakthrough. They should at least reinstate support for movies and photos in 3D now.

I have no idea why they removed HDMI 3D support? I get it, they no longer wanna work on 3D Vision , if that's their decision, fine, but at least leave something as basic as support for HDMI 3D output. There are a LOT of customers who watch 3D movies on computers or on TV connected to the computer. 3D bluray is still a thing, as much as 3D movies in the cinema.
PowerDVD
To be more precise, you must buy PowerDVD Ultra. Only the Ultra version offers stereoscopic playback. You can rip discs to your hard drive and play them back with Nvidia's Player or other players with stereoscopic support like Pot Player. But Blu-rays are something like 20-40 GB each. There used to be on the fly DRM removers like AnyDVDHD. But AFAIK, there isn't anything current, so the only way to use unlicensed software, is to rip the disc.
