New VorpX 18.2.2 - incredible peace of software
  1 / 3
Hello there, I put this in here because probably more 3D Vision users are interested in this then those few from the VR forum, also the Helixmod is affected by these news. http://vorpx.com over the years became an incdredible peace of software.Very frequent updates, in many cases bugs are beeing whiped out the same day there are reported after a release. (try telling a bug to Nvidia, or Microsoft haha). The recent updates brought us huge FPS and OpenGL improvements as well as many new game profiles as usual. I am very exited because for "us" (i count my self to the people who always wanted to play their old game in 3D, first with 3D Vision, now in VR) the new vorpX can hanlde almost any DX/OpenGL/Glide ect. Wrapper directly, meaning that you can play almost any older DX1-8, OpenGL or Glide game with VorpX ! Important Note: DgVoodoo2 has been officially implemented for experimental use ONLY and there is no guarantee that it will work which other games then the ones listed in the DGVoodoo2 profile. Other wrappers are not officially supported at all, but hey ! most of them work ! Some wrappers i tested so far: -DGVoodoo2 any DX1-8/Glide game (No stereo on my personal Windows7 setup yet, requires VorpX profile, examples: Gothic1+2; Unreal2) -DX8toDX9 ( many DX8 games, Geometry 3D, requires vorpX profile or compatible game profile, examples: GTA3, Unreal2,Madagascar) -NGlide (any Glide game (3Dfx) , no stereo yet (dont know if that will be possible though) -some other DX/Opengl OpenGL/DX wrappers work too, but partly quite poor. -tell us what wrappers work with you ! Further on VorpX has 2 different OpenGL versions implemented, so that you can play your old oldest OpenGL game in stereo 3D using the Descent 2 (DX-XL) profile for example as well as newer OpenGL stuff using a Quake 4 profile for example. And last but not least, i have tested the Helixmod with VorpX and already made some shaderfixes. It appears that you just can use the Helixmod as like you use it with 3D Vision. Hunt your shaders in the HMD and modify them als usual. Note: VorpX gives you a message that a DX9 .dll is not recommended in the game folder, but thats an official warning and nothing concerning wrapping/dll ing is supported, though you can just ignore that and proceed ahead, on your own risk of coarse. The better way is to make a request in the vorpX forum for a proper game profile. - Its not clear if you can use any 3D-Vision fix with VorpX, though i was able to use my Fix for Halo 2 with VorpX without any modification. If you are new to VorpX or still dont like the software for some reasons, it will take a while to become familiar with it. It has so many options that newbies easily get confused or expect something out of the box that is simply not possible without knowing more details about the software (like Mode settings, Cinema, Full VR, FOV enhancement, 3D Strength, Geometry 3D, Z-Buffer alternative modes, Headtracking and Controller Settings, Positional Headtracking (physically walk around in Hard Reset for example),VorpX even emulates conrtoller Skins, you have settings that you never have dreamed of, so like said a newbie can easily come to the impression the software doesnt work the way i was bought for. Note: For any of the officially supported games VorpX gives support and those games will work "out of the box" with any further user settings. Any other game may require a "little reading" before using the software but opens a barndoor to those who ever wanted to play their older game in VR. All together , for those who are new to VorpX, you can officially play amlost any DX9/10/11/OpenGL game in VR , 3D Stereo requires a so called game profile, which is either inbuilt already, or you either can create yourself (takes some time) or download it from the VorpX cloud (free of coarse). New profiles are beeing added almost daily to the vorpX cloud and you can even upload your own profiles there! How many games... ? I have stopped counting them. With most games that i have tried to make work in 3D (G3d), using the Engine Crosschecker below, i was successful, the number of DX8 games with G3D now comes on top of all the DX8/9/11 OpenGL. - Though some games just dont want to work in Geometry Mode, for those there is in most cases an alternative 3D Mode availiable "Z-Buffer" ,i personally prefer Geometry Mode, though "Z-Buffer" can make a game, especially Toon-Like games look quite nice. - Some games remain Mono only. For those who would like to create a game profile right now this link might be helpful. RJ
Hello there,

http://vorpx.com over the years became an incdredible peace of software.Very frequent updates, in many cases bugs are beeing whiped out the same day there are reported after a release.

There's so many conflicting reviews (and the reviews tend to be really terrible where people complain they feel they just had their money stolen). Really either needs a demo or to be sold on Steam (so people can try for a couple hours and get a refund if they hate it).

Or you don't and just stick to native VR titles. People are comfortable spending hundreds of dollars buying VR tech demos passed as full games in Occulus store, yet they bitch about a tool that has been around before any native VR titles. Made just for that....tweaking and injecting VR/ or atleast semi VR into AAA non VR games. I really don't get the VorpX hate at this point.... Its for a small techie/tweaker crowd in the VR community.... Ralf never said anything otherwise

@Paul, the reason for this is that it takes quite while until you are familiar with the software. To be honest, i was disappointed too in the beginning. Its just impossible to learn about all the functions that vorpX has in just a short period of time. I would not agree with a demo because just of that reason. Some people , especially newbies to 3D report badly about vorpX because they cant handle the software, not because its a bad one. I would also not agree with steam as i am personally not a steam user at all. VorpX beeing independent from steam is something that i really appreciate. @lou , you can follow the latest game profiles in the vorpX forum, https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/have-you-gotten-an-unsupported-game-to-work-tell-us-which-one/ . I put Test Drive Unlimited on my list (no guarantee that it will work though)

Well, they could release at least SBS stereoscopic 3D output for the conventional 3D TVs owners, that would make me interested in It.

I love Vorpx but i'm just waiting for my Pimax 8K to get back to VR, last time I tried Bioshock Infinite and looked amazing in VR but i just don't like the current gen SDE so I'm hoping we get a good improvement with Pimax, to hear that we can use Helixmod fixing techniques with Vorpx is incredible news, I can't wait to get back to Vorpx now.

A VR driver is for VR which is completely different to 3D Vision or 3D Tvs. VR means 3D Stereoscopic viewing with headtracking, you turn yourself around in a game and walk around (as far your system let you walk), not just viewing a game on a big screen (many people dont even know the important difference) I reccommend, go to a shop, test VR (HTC Vive will be the best), then buy a Vive or whatever + VorpX for all the games that you ever wanted to play in 3D (no fake 3D - important!) not on a 50inch but on a 150 inch monitor or even FULL VR. (How about physically walking around in Fallout 3 ?) If you ever experience Unreal 2 or Fallout 3 with VorpX on a HTC Vive or whatever, you will never want to turn back to 3D Vision - promised ! I used to be probably the biggest fan of 3D-Vision. But since i got most of my favorite games to run in VR, games with 3D-Vision look so ridiculously small. If you own Unreal 2 for example, you will probably never have noticed that donut with a cup of coffee on the instructors table down in the basement because your sight is so much smaller than in VR. One single game can keep you up 100 times longer as usual. Somebody recently named that "VR sightseeing". You are able to explore that old game in a way that you never had been able to before.

So have any of you guys used this with the Pinball games (Pinball Arcade & Pinball Arcade 2/3)? Any impressions? Last I looked, it said unsupported. But I guess it is with custom settings? These two are already pretty good with SuperDepth 3D and BigScreen. And if so, can you run Pinball Arcade with DX11 or are you restricted to DX9?

Main issue is that games just don't run at 60-90 FPS ... dunno if its the vorpx driver or the headset limitation. 300-400 FPS on the desktop and you are still clunkin along at 30 FPS in the headset..even with a 1080GTX.

FPS absolutely depends on the game. Dont pay much attention to that red FPS message while a game is loading and dont use external FPS counters, press ALT+F for vorpX FPS monitoring. Besides, VorpX is using a technique that allows you to even run a game on 45 FPS without flickering in case of CPU/GPU hungry games. @paul you can check for a game here http://rjkole.com/gamestuff/latst.php . If you find it in the list you can make a request.

Hmmm, just bought VorpX to try it out. It worked with Star Wars Battlefront II but I didn't like it so much because of the bad resolution (normally I use it with 3D-vision in crisp clear full hd 3D) Now I wanted to play it without VorpX again (closed the VorpX software) but it doesn't work anymore!! VorpX changed something in the game (I had to give the vorpx-software administrator-rights because it told me to do so) and now I can't start it anymore (game crashes, won't launch)! I managed to start it one time but it had a low resolution: I changed it back to 1920x1080 but then the game crashed. I already reinstalled it but no luck yet! VorpX destroyed my game! Help please!
