A detailed look at Squad refinements

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. These changes will also be implemented for consoles when we release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates shortly. Stay tuned for the exact date of the console updates.

First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.

For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.

After the patch is applied to consoles (in the near future) you will be able to join Squads by cycling through the list and selecting which Squad you wish to join.
I tried this morning as I stated in this thread: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=216449&view=findpost&p=1330950

I get framerate problems after about 2-5 minutes and then it'll eventually crash. 3D looks a little buggy at the moment.

Their (EAdice) 3D support is bad, there is no 3D menu in the video settings and imho the 3D is rubbish, there is no depth other than the gun which imho looks rubbish. I like this game but the 3D is basic and none immersive.

Let me take a moment to comment on 3D Vision support in the game

There is no built-in menu option for 3D on NVIDIA. Simply enable Stereoscopic 3D from our Control Panel and toggle 3D on / off inside the game using CTRL-T or by pressing the button on the emitter. This was a decision from DICE to leave off the Settings option for NVIDIA

If you want to adjust depth use the hotkeys or depth wheel

Depth is automatically reduced when you are inside a vehicle as designed by DICE.

I downloaded the patch today and while the 3d seems to be working (albeit not a great rendering) I still am crashing after 2 or 3 minutes of gameplay. Currently running:

I7 2600 3.4gh
12gb ram
twin Nvidia 560ti's in SLI
Windows 7 64 bit
Viewsonic 120hz monitor

Origin helpdesk could not solve my problem. Is this a driver issue?

Sorry to hear that. Are you saying increasing Nvidia's driver to maximum depth still results in low depth? Do you know if you can separate distant objects to about 8 centimeters?

I read in a BF3 forum that this new released patch that enables 3D in BF3 is completely bugged and that's why everybody is suffering sudden crashes and that Dice will release a new patch in another 24 hours, is that true?

It's probably me, others are saying bf3 is great in 3d so go with that. Only two games i think are really good in 3d and that's mafia 2 and metro 2033. Having said that i think stereoscopic 3d varies from game to game and user to user, it's kind of subjective.

Did you really like Mafia 2 in 3D? I found that game to have tons of ghosting and no convergence, not really a good 3D game. I do agree about Metro 2033 having great stereo 3D support. Don't you find Batman AA to have much better 3D support than Mafia 2???

IC3D,
You haven't played many games if that's all you have on your list as being quality.

A couple of games that are almost perfect that are less known for 3D and this is an example to prove a point: Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and FEAR: Perseus Mandate. The same goes for most of the Tomb Raider games.

Metro 2033 is awesome in 3D, but I don't think it touches BFBC2 in 3D, because a) the nature of Metro's dark corridors itself, and b) it feels like things in Metro are always in your face sufficating you. BFBC2 wide open landscape and forests leave little to be desired for a 3D game. In fact I don't think anything has really touched BFBC2 in 3D overall.

Both Mafia AND Mafia 2 are great in 3D. Convergence might be locked in Mafia 2, but I don't see any ghosting at least not on a DLP.

The perceived depth in mafia2 was amzing at 100% with nvidia stereoscopic 3d but a bit too much for my eyes for long periods of use, so 15-25% was about right for me. Ghosting in mafia 2 was mainly around the character you played in game and mainly on the left hand side. I can't remember much about arkham asylum in 3d, i do though prefer most games in 2d because with my old nvidia 3d vision kit i loose most of the lighting in game and it becomes too dark. Depending on the game i usually now play in 2d and then have a blast in 3d whenever. That's why i said i think 3d is subjective and it varies from game to game for different users, some like it some like me find it can be great others just don't like it period.

IC3D,
You haven't played many games if that's all you have on your list as being quality.

A couple of games that are almost perfect that are less known for 3D and this is an example to prove a point: Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and FEAR: Perseus Mandate. The same goes for most of the Tomb Raider games.
It's probably not so much the actual quality but the fact i enjoyed the perceived depth with nvidia's stereoscopic 3d or 3d vision and mafia 2 and metro 2033 just worked ok for me without too many game breaking issues.

I did not like mw in 3d and i did not like fear games in 3d, i actually don't really like the fear games in 2d except maybe fear 2 and fear 3 for a blast but only in 2d for me. Not tried tomb raider in 3d but liked underground in 2d.

Does this patch fix the screwed up lighting?

Yes I believe it fixes all graphical anomalies that I'm aware of. Give it a shot, but if you're single player guy, I'm not sure I'd buy this unless you just want to experience the Frostbite 2 engine.
