My new upgrade. Let me know what you think :) Upgrade from amd x2 4200+ @ 2.2GHZ
I have finnished ordering the remaining parts and hope to be putting it together this coming weekend. I hope i didn't pay too much for anything but i was very carefull in picking sale items only.

AMD 1055T 6 core @ 2.8 ghz........................................ $201 (reg price....$229)
Gigabyte 890GX AM3 (890GPA-UD3H)............................$145 (real price....oh well)
G.Skill F3-12800CL9D DDR3 1600 2x2GB.......................$104 (reg price...$129)
Gigabyte GTX 280 1GB ................................................$219 (reg price...$559)

Total.......................................................
....................$669 (no tax add- free shipping) and i saved $360-ish (more with taxes added)

Ill put it all in my case i have and use my BFG 250 OC 750GHZ 1 GB to dedicate to physics on the second pci-e slot.

The only thing left is decent priced psu to replace my 520w i use right now............................ what wattage should i be looking for? This board will never sli (amd chipset) and i wont run crossfireX because i bought an expensive 3D VISION bundle from Nvidia which will only work with Ns' graphics cards. I will add 3D Blu-Ray drive later........maybe.

If your going to run both card's i would go with a decent 750watt.

I think once you get this setup their would be no camparison to your old system.
It should be at least a 100% performance increase at least.

You could have bought a second GTS250 for 80-100 usd , and it would been faster than a GTX285 by 10%. Now your rig is 20% slower than that , need new PSU, and you only have physx instead.

MSI has a mobo with 3-way SLI slots, thats the one Im using with ph2 955BE, imho a 6core cpu is definately overrated...

One gts250 won't be faster than a 280 and two gts250 won't sli on a crossfire board.

IDK why he bought a CF mobo in the first place...

Hell, maybe even 3way SLI would run fine with his old PSU, given theres no 6 core monstrosity to power... That would be up to GTX470 perfomance or even more. Far cheaper , and far far faster rig.

-price perfomance level going thru the roof , the way I like it :D

I got the crossfire board because its the most recent mobo to the market that has the 890 chipset. Its only offered as a crossfire X-whatever. It fully supports my new 6core without a flash to the bios, which was one of the requirements in a previous post asking for help picking a new 890 chipset mobo with no flashing required fully supporting my overkill proc. This was the cheapest 890 board that looked to be able to handle OC-ing this 6core to 3.4 (its what im shooting for) and close the gap on the 1090T for 130 dollars less. The 280 gtx was icing @ 219$. Now i have an equivilant sli 250 but in one slot AND i have the extra card lying around so i may as well plug it for physics :)
I could not keep the mobo or cpu and just upgrade to sli because my cpu and mobo are failing which was the cause for this upgrade anyway. I have monitored my cpu vs gpu usage and the old cpu could not push the 250 gts to 70% gpu or vram so the cpu would never do sli or tri card configs anyways...........without bottlenecking it all.

Of course, had i known more about the 250s' cards performance in sli befor this upgrade i most certainly would have had concitered it and saved some money with that style build for sure. Live and learn :)

Oh well, still rocking a 6 core with a beasty card for cheap lol
