Not necessarily: I play Oblivion in 3D (with max setting and AAx8) almost everyday with 2 GTX285 in SLI, and the temp of each card never exceed 75°C (my tower case is a Coolermaster Sniper, without watercooling).

Play Oblivion: Nehrim in 3D

Talk to the very first merchant which you meet in the game (in the beginning area - Shadow Song Mine Site) in the daytime (not night). Watch as gpu temperature increases.
If I talk to this merchant for more than 1-2 minutes, my gpu temperature will exceed 90C (85% fan speed), and fps is only 35-50 (not even 60fps).

Usually, Oblivion does not overheat my GTX 580, especially when I am moving, but in some situations, it does overheat.

Are you guys also noticing a problem with the shadows in this game. It's like they flicker, or better yet, the left eye and right eye are seeing a slightly different position shadow. That makes them not quite line up and gives the outer edges a flicker effect. If I turn up the convergence, it seems to help, but not completely fix the problem. And distant shadows always seem to have this problem reguardless.

I'm running a GTX580 with the latest version of Oblivion, Windows 7 32bit, and the latest Nvidia WHQL drivers. I can turn shadows off, but with them on it makes the immersion better.

Yes i noticed this, it's really bad too.

also i played for a good half an hour today and then it happened again =/ sigh oh well.

Really don't want to game on a laptop unless the air vents on the underneath are completely clear and can get plenty of air (which usually means it's got to be on a completely flat surface). Logitech do a nice laptop cooler, the N100, it's very light, and guarantees a good space under the laptop. Also has a fan but doesn't move much air.

Btw you need to turn shadows off in 3D and there's a sky and water fix you'll find by doing a search for 'oblivion' on these forums. It's really good in 3D once you've done all this IMO.

The thing is i can't currently afford a gaming pc xD i've had this gaming laptop since my old laptop broke in september. so i can't afford anything big for a while especially after buying 3d, guess oblivion will have to wait for 3d, the other games i play are fine. such as half life 2, unreal tournament 2k4 etc.
