Will nVidia EVER fix Half-Life 2/cross-hair 3D issue?
  1 / 2
I've had 3D vision now for a year, I haven't touched it in 8 months, why? SUPPORT! I can go on and on about the promised advanced settings to reduce ghosting that we never got, the games that never work - yet are labeled "good" (crysis is a GREAT example)

But forget all that. When it works, it's great, it's just that more and more, it doesn't work.

My one biggest issue, my favorite game of all-time and one of the biggest games ever for PC, owned by millions (so I'm not asking you to fix/support some underground game here) Half-Life 2, not the episodes, (haven't tried those) Half-Life 2, in 3D I feel this game could be fantastic, but this game needs a cross-hair to play or aiming is way off. Well, when you leave the original cross-hair, like many games, you see 2 of them, no problem right? Just enabled the 3D cross-hair? Nope, for a YEAR at least, enabling a 3D cross-hair reduces your frames to 20fps. And not just for me, I've made threads here before about this and on other forums. Everyone who has 3D and this game have this issue.

Andrew, anyone, WILL NVIDIA EVER FIX THIS?

I paid $600 for a monitor and glasses that just collect dust except during a new driver release where I check this game and others....nothing every gets fixed. All support for new games, but existing games, supported, get no attention. It kills the supposed "back log library" of 3D ready games.

Quite annoying.

I prefer half life 2 without the crosshair. You can disable it on the console. It does make the game a bit tougher but ... since I've played through this game like 10 times, it's an added challenge :D

But I agree that the nvidia crosshairs really crap out the fps. I have yet to play a game where I use them.

ALSO
you will need to download a remove brackets texture for HL2 which erm... removes the brackets which remain even if you disable the crosshair in the console etc.

It took about 10 minutes of playing without a crosshair before I instinctively knew where I was shooting. I wish all games had a crosshair disable option for people who enjoy the added immersion and challenge.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I totally agree with original post about this game, one of the best games made. I also put it back on my PC the other week to see how it was in 3D and it does work pretty flawlessly except for the crosshair, normally i just disable it but as HL2 doesnt have an "aim down the sight" option it does make it more difficult so what i have done is started 2 games, one is on easy diff with no crosshair at all, this keeps it balanced for me because of it being harder to aim. Another save on hard with the crosshair on, got the depth set to a certain level so there are 2 crosshairs about half an inch apart, and i use that gap to aim, it was hard at first but its getting easier now.

Would still be nice if we could have a proper 3D crosshair for it though. Messing around with the FOV i can see this could be quite impressive with 3D surround as well.

talking about HL2 in 3d, has anyone tried the cinematic mod http://www.cinematicmod.com/ in 3d? It needs a 64 bit windows and a beast of computer, so I wanted to know if it works well just in case I can upgrade my computer anytime soon, has anyone tried it?

Even more annoying is people that go around blaming NVIDIA for the problem when it's the game developer's fault. Go b!tch at Valve and maybe you'll get somewhere (although, probably unfortunately not, since the game has been out for so long and Valve still hasn't corrected it ).

I don't get it, I have no issues with HL2 + Episodes! Performance is perfectly fine and using FRAPs I get 60fps in 2D or 3D. (Zalman Polarized Monitor at 60Hz)

Maybe this thread is too old?! HL2 and Episode 1 got updated a few months back to the latest version of the Source Engine.

I did however have to disable the Quick Info part of the crosshair using the console command "hud_quickinfo 0"

Shouldnt NVIDIA try to explain in some notes how to improve stereo 3d experience? Shouldnt it be NVIDIA's intent to tell all the users out there how to avoid bitching around with limitations to a smallest possible degree?

Am I not paying NVIDIA for this support while buying their graphics cards for the advantage of the features AMD does not offer?
