What's wonderful is that amazon allows you to actually pre-order and not just "Auto-Notify". Which I thought would be awesome...of course, once I ordered the whole damned thing, it says, "we will notify you once we have an estimated arrival date of your item". So, I've got ten "Auot-Notifies" again on all the Newegg GTX 480's and an order with amazon, (which I can cancel still at any time) that is pending. The wait is maddening, especially considering there is so much bad press about the product. Hopefully they will stock up soon.

Well, it really shouldn’t be a shock. It isn’t just newegg. They are sold out of 480s from every vendor who sells direct like evga and any e-tailer you can think of, new egg, tiger direct, zipzoomfly (who is gouging over 150 bucks on these cards!), ncix, amazon, you name it they are sold out.

What you are dealing with is a card that currently is in low supply and has a terribly high demand. You are literally competing against people who are sitting on these sites daily refreshing the pages over and over to try and get an order in before they are sold out.

I got one 480cs preordered directly from evga back on the 26th when they opened preorders. I was lucky to get this in. They were out of preorders in under 5 minutes. It arrives this Friday. I am trying to get my second ordered and I, like many, have been camping sites mashing refresh for hours on end. Monday some stock came up for order on EVGAs site. I was filling out my payment information literally 30 seconds after they became available. I had to do one extra page refresh, to spend my EVGA bucks, that others didn’t have to do, and when I submitted my order I got a message saying the item was out of stock. They sold out in under 2 minutes.

Yeah, it is frustrating, but really isn’t unexpected. Just the nature of the beast.

I thought it was just an error from my network at work, yet when I got home I still could not access the forums at all. So, looks like perhaps everyone was affected by that.

Would seem so, although all you needed to do was clear ur login history/browser cache and it was fine. /teehee.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':teehee:' />

For the last two days I could not enter this site at all. It said something about authorization error. Then it suddenly works today.

Yah, for some reason our browser's cached data was no longer liked by the nVidia forum software - clearing it out so it could get refreshed fixes that ...aargh.

Too bad the new cards aren't getting around to all that want 'em. The sooner they get into the market, the sooner I can pick up a 295 for less than US$400 ...

Another day down the drain. Hate you newegg. Maybe I'll snag one later but whatever. I swear people are just buying these to sell them on ebay for a higher price. FRUSTRATED.

Just walk away from it for now... Usually early adopters get burned anyways, with sketchy hardware, faulty drivers, backwards compatibility issues, etc.
