Depth versus Convergence = Total Confusion! Please help me understand the difference
Howdy folks. Please help an ageing confused simian.

Depth I kind of get - it changes how far away things look. Am I on the right track there?

Convergence - er.... does it simulate how far apart your eyes are?!? I've no idea!

So, please could someone talk me through the differences between the two, and what I could expect from my gameplay experience if I meddle with them individually or together. Some example games to try out your suggestions on would be very nice too!

Depth=The amount of stereoeffect=the distance between the cameras.
Convergence=The convergepoint. It sounds difficult but simplified explained and actually what this setting do is either pushing or pulling the scene towards you.

I too didnt know what convergence was until a few weeks ago, i had an issue where the keys for changing it would hardly ever work, which made things very difficult tweaking wise, after the latest set of drivers though it worked fine (wasnt a fault with the old drivers, it was my PC in the end).

Its great now though because when you add depth all the stuff at the front "breaks" but now that convergence works for me i can adjust it, like fine tuning the radio, lol.

As far as I've been able to figure, increasing nvidia's "depth" should separate the two viewpoints more while adjusting "convergence" adjusts how much those viewpoints are turned towards each other.

Since your eyes will still have both images they can still converge on any point in the scene, but the software set convergence point decides which point in the scene is at monitor depth (in other words, where the image for both viewpoints exists in the same place on the monitor). Sorry, that's kind of hard to explain in words, I hope it makes sense!

I adjust convergence on every single game I play. Even ones with preset nividia profiles. I prefer to make my own profiles. ctrl-F7 is your friend. :)
You can also make backups of your saved profiles when installing new drivers. Copy the NVStereoscopic.LOG folder in documents to desktop before installing new drivers, then just copy back, so you don't have to adjust stuff again hehe.

Actually, if you have any feedback to share on it, that would be great. It has about 176 submissions so far (105 games). However, we would like to see more.

Is there something preventing more people from using it? Are there important features missing? Are there not enough compatible games to fill the database with (hadn't considered this one)?

I've always wondered if people are hesitant to use it because they are concerned about criticizing their favourite solutions, etc. Or, maybe they find it too cumbersome to use, or English isn't their first language and the terminology is harder to follow. Could be anything.

All feedback valued. We'd like to put more work into it, and it's helpful to get gamer feedback and ideas moving forward.
