Indigomod - DX11 wrapper by Chiri and elbarterino - Bioshock Infinite
12 / 28
These summer months I rarely fire up the plasma or the PC that I use for 3D gaming. Its just to hot.
I have to think back to all the titles that I've played in 3D - starting with Skyrim upon release. (I think Skyrim required one config line change and a 'dorkit' shader fix for water+sky+moon, never used a 'helix' fix)
Maybe its the titles I pick (I always use a gamepad and look for native in game support) but it seems rather rare that I use a DX9 wrapper. (I did for FC3 with mixed results) While I can see how having a DX9 wrapper for S3D fixes has allowed the fixing of a large number of games and can see how important having a DX11 wrapper 'available?' could enable fixing an equally or larger number of DX11 games, I'm not sure/clear as to what donating to this project would buy me.
Does this give me access to only a Bioshock infinite fix that may or may not get finalized? Is this a donate per-game-title or a one-time thing? What is the money being used for? Research? Development? A software tool(s)? Webspace? How is $5K going to make or break a fix for BI or more importantly, how is it going to (if at all) impact DX11.1/11.2 games which may (or not) have S3D support built in?
Sorry but to many unanswered questions for a unemployed fixed (very limited) income gamer with not enough air conditioning to fire up the gaming rig+monitor to play games to consider getting excited about this.
Personally I think its a bit "cart before the horse". But that is just IMHO.

I'm probably going to have to mod fans into that thing! :)

mbloof, donating will grant you access to the Bioshock Infinite fix. The screenshots and video that have come out prove that it's possible, significant progress has been made, and it appears to be close to completion. It will also ensure the release of a DX11 wrapper that can be used to fix other DX11 games. Anyone with the appropriate programming knowledge will be able to use this wrapper to fix other DX11 games, potentially allowing for free community fixes for other games. Games that require more advanced and complicated work to fix will be fixed under a similar model to Bioshock Infinite, though once the wrapper is complete it should be significantly easier to fix subsequent games.
As for DX11.1, it's not out yet. I don't think anyone can really say much about it until it is.
EDIT: I should point out that this is just my understanding of things, and I have no affiliation with the creators of this fix.

An important thing to keep in mind is that if these injectors are made EASY to use, and with frequent updates for new version so game, they will be more useable and accepted by the general game playing users that are not PC savy.
This is the group that we must try to attract in order to keep PC gaming competitive with consoles.
Even the savy PC customers do not want to spend a lot of time installing and tweaking an injector to play each game.
To make an "app" which is easy to use, and frequently updated and adapted to new games can require both initial and ongoing monetary support.
But this DX11 injector could be an important "app" for S3D gaming.

The other important thing to note is that while this DX11 wrapper may be important to 3DVision users, it may not be as important or required at all for the Tridef camp of S3D gamers.
(its been a while since I've checked in with the BI-Tridef thread here and elsewhere but it seems that there was a reasonably good profile available for BI that Tridef users could make use of)
Also of interest is if the Xbox One or PS4 will offer any compelling S3D gaming at all or more/less the same 'fake3D' we've gotten in the past or none at all.

The thing about Tridef is that most 3d vision monitors don't support it, so nVidia users are left out. Only a select few people can play with Tridef, not to mention the fact that you halve the resolution when doing so. Tridef is okay, but it's no substitute for 3d vision.

the only title I use Tridef for is Rift, but the FPS hit is terrible so its only just worth it, but going back to playing Rift in 2D is like trying to watch my favourite films in black and white :-(

Have you guys tried any big social media sites to garner some attention?
Reddit comes to mind as an excellent platform. I'm pretty sure the goal would get completed within a day if someone makes an informative post about the project and why it's important for 3D gamers. It wouldn't take that many people chipping in few bucks and this would get funded.

I can use ether Tridef or 3DVision with my main monitor so this is not an issue for me. (my laptop on the other hand is Tridef only)
I could see if this was a finished product with assurances of releasing 'fixes' for future popular titles along with updates to the wrapper itself and followed a similar business plan as "Tridef" I could easily fork out the $40-60 (like I did for Tridef) to get the functionality - if it could not be gotten elsewhere.
So this may only be useful to 3DVision users that use 'proper' 3DVision (dual DVI-D) LCD monitors?

Actually it's nvidia 3d-vision that uses a proprietary format. The usb dongle is an idea by an idiot, completely unnecessary and only contributes to make syncing and function more difficult. I wonder how much works that was needed to make this function somewhat properly...
Great work nvidia for making a small market even more splitted up. I figure you had in mind to kill every rest of 3d the time you decided to release 3d-vision...

Tridef? Pff..no offence but that SOFTWARE is GARBAGE ( YES I own a license for it) tested it on both my PC and Laptop and it sux so much on both...
First of all the "3D" on it is "flat"
Next, FPS hit is huge
Next, No SLI Support (last I remember Crossfire didn't work either)
Next, no multi-monitor support
So, Tridef should sell their software for Phones....maybe it will work there...
The iZ3D driver on the other hand was superior to Tridef (back in the day)

Tridef isn't garbage as far as 3D, tbh without helixmod its easily equal if not better then 3D vision.
It takes a lot of tweaking, to get the 3D image how you want it. 3D vision kind of uses your display as a baseline for your 3d settings. Tridef doesnt, it has no idea if your on a monitor or 100" projector. So you got to tweak it.
It's main problem, is definetly performance. Even on a single card it runs pretty poorly. 3D kind of needs SLI. Don't get me wrong, some of us get by on non-sli but for constant high fps and not changing video cards every year. You need SLI. Multi-monitors like helifax have no chance on Tridef.
Its kind of like you need SLI to get good performance out of it, but that's not an option.
But yea... Depth Buffer/ Powered 3D is garbage. It offers no immersion and is more a distraction then anything. In very few games it works without being distracting, but its really not many.
I actually played a good amount of The Walking Dead on it. It does a very good job with it.

Anybody already set up to post to Reddit/understand the way things are done there?
Had another idea too: Contact gaming journalists directly and suggest IndigoMod as an article. We need some press, and they are the press. One thing I know about the press is that they are always looking for more stories.
Not sure what angle would get past their natural anti-3D bias.

Cyberreality is working on a stereoscopic open source middleware for gaming. He was a 3D Vision user then switched to AMD, I don't think 3D Vision support is offered. More people joined the group to help write it. I'm not sure how far it's progressed or how well it works, it has it's own sub forum and wiki over at Meant To Be Seen. One guy left the group and is doing his own thing.
