"The dells panel is not necessarily better than the Sammy or viewsonic, it just copes with 3D vision better, it is smaller, and probably has a lower response rate, and contrast etc, which make it cheaper."
I said it has a worse refresh rate / worse contrast, but it handles 3D better. This is why it is cheaper.
To all 3 of you - Within a week of these monitors being released I had heard stories of bad ghosting, which is the sole reason I did not buy one for myself. It is also the reason none of you should have bought one.
You are also all wrong about the options available.
I did not have enough money for a DLP tv, so I went with the only other option from the 3... A CRT. My CRT works wonderfully with 3D vision, with pretty much no ghosting at all. And get this: I found it hiding away in a cupboard next to my computer, so it was absolutely free for me - another reason not to throw away old stuff.
The way i see it now, is that I am using a CRT, and it is actually better than all the Samsung monitors you guys bought, and I didn't have to pay extra for mine at all!
Please don't give me rubbish saying you hod to buy a Samsung, you could have easily spent an hour researching before you spent all that money, and found out there is a better product that you already own sitting next to you.
fish99 - I have also read that the alienware monitor has ghosting; which is exactly why I'm not buying it either... I now wait for the Acer to be tested somewhere.
rkuo - Be careful who you say is idiotic, I was one of the only people that didnt waste hundreds of dollars on an inferior product, plus I have a monitor that doesnt ghost! :P

The way I am trying to help is by letting you know what the problem is.
I keep seeing people wasting money and time sending stuff back on warranty when there's nothing wrong with it, and expecting it to be fixed, and then they are upset when it isnt.
The only way to fix it is to wait until a monitor comes out that's good enough to handle 3D vision perfectly, and buy that one.
If you can still return your Samsung, and you don't like it, I advise you do, otherwise, its still a good monitor, and its 3D capable, it just has ghosting...
Switching monitors doesn't work because its a design fault, not a manufacturing fault. The same problem is there with all of these panels (the ones used in the samsung / viewsonic). Switching glasses doesnt work, because all of the glasses work perfectly. If they didnt, DLP's would ghost too). Driver updates also dont work, because drivers cannot change the hardware in the monitor, which is the problem. If the driver was the problem, all monitors would ghost (including the dell laptop), which they dont.
If there is anything you don't understand here, let me know, and I'll try to explain.

Did you let your monitor warm up for at least 30 mins before doing this analysis?
This makes a lot of difference in my case with my samsung 2233rz
On cold start watching the "fly me to the moon" 3D trailer i got a lot of ghosting. I had to strain myself not to loose the 3d effect sometimes.
After an internet browsing session i tried again with a warmed up monitor about an hour and a half later, there still was some ghosting but in most parts now i really had to make an effort to notice it and not the other way around.

Think about it, it can't be the glasses or drivers' fault, because the LCD on the laptop has no ghosting, nor does many CRT's or any DLP TV's. If it was the fault of the Glasses or Drivers, ghosting would be obvious on every display.
You say I should buy the glasses and wait for "the perfect 3D display". I have already bought the glasses, and I use them with my CRT which has no ghosting, and I am, in fact, waiting for a bigger LCD monitor with no ghosting.
Darktronik - The solution is to do just this, wait for a better display to come out and buy it. In the mean time make do with what you've got (like how I'm using my CRT).
I know this isn't the most desirable option, and it would be much better if these monitors did work better with 3D vision, but sadly, we can't change it, so there isn't much else we can do.

I get plenty of ghosting on my CRT, a Dell 21" P1130 (sony trinitron tube). I'll get round to taking some pictures of the ghosting someday. It's not so bad that it stops me using 3D vision, you just have to forget about it and play the game, which I can do with most games, but it is there, and in some games it's bad enough to put me off playing them. I also asked Anton of 3D Vision Blog to compare the ghosting he got on the samsung LCD and a CRT (since I knew from the blog he had tried 3D Vision with both) and he told me the Sammy LCD produced a better experience in his opinion.
I do agree people should research what they buy more thoroughly, but the reality is a lot of people don't. Got to admit I only checked this forum briefly before buying the glasses, I bought them on a whim after trying the iZ3D drivers with red/cyan glasses. There's also a responsibility on nVidia if they certify a screen as 3D ready, to make sure it does the job to an acceptable standard, and a resposibility on Samsung to keep quality up (they're well known for using several different panels on one model which could explain why not everyone gets the same level of ghosting with the samsung). I just think it's a little harsh to put all the blame at the feet of the end user.

Yup ... if it's certified as 3d vision ready, consumers have some expectation of quality, and rightly so. Plus I preordered this kit so yeah, I took the good with the bad and while I certainly wouldn't have given up the year of 3d gaming I've had, it's below where I thought it should have been. There are immediately noticeable flaws.

fish99 - I agree with pretty much everything you said, however my CRT doesn't ghost much at all. I pretty much never notice it, unless the conditions are extreme (but this will be different for each monitor, so yours may not act the same way.
I'm not blaming the user that much for the ghosting at all really, I blame Samsung for ghosting, but I also think that they should be allowed to sell a product of this standard. This is because it does show 3D images, just not perfectly, and all its advertised as is being capable of 3D (even though this is a little misleading.
I think users should be more careful of what they spend their money on as well, not just buy it without reading up on it. This opinion of mine is from past experience where I fond spending a full day or so reading reviews is definitely worth it.
rkuo - There are many products on the market that do their job to a less than expected standard, and this is pretty much expected in a lot of cases. Samsung's monitor does make 3D images (and I would argue that the one they sent to NVIDIA to be certified was much higher quality than the ones they sell to consumers), they just don't do a flawless job of it.
As you said, you wouldnt take back your year of 3D gaming, neither would I. I think in this case you just need to look at the positive, and learn from what happened. It's pretty much all that can be done.

Dr Nick, do you have any back up in what you said? Or are you simply claiming "it is" because "you think so"? Unlike what you said, some people have problems on CRT and DLP. If a monitor is certified for 3D, than their should not be ghosts because Nvidia say so. Unless Nvidia's rep saids otherwise, you will need to back up what you said, proving that they are lying. People don't certify something because they think so, but through a number of tests.
The ghosting may have something to do with either the monitor not meeting the specification, or the glasses itself is defective, or both. It may have something to do with drivers as the synchronization may be off a little. Anyways, people here are trying to show that there is a problem and are looking for a solution or a future fix, not to be bashed by some no body claiming it is because of their cheap LCDs. In fact, those LCDs are not cheap.
In short, if you have a solution, please share it. If you don't have the solution but have the problem, state it. Otherwise, it is best for you to stay out of these as a lot of readers/posters are very upset already and there is no need of your negative opinions.
I too have the problem, samsung 2233RZ. The 3D wizzard doesn't show any ghosting, but it does show when the contrast is high, I.E. batman AA where Joker laugh at you after you die, ghosting clearly showed. The funny thing is, sometimes the ghosting is really bad, sometimes it isn't. When it is bad, the top of the screen isn't 3D at all. I also realized when i look straight into the LCD, ghosting is less compare to when i look at the monitor in an angle. I don't know if this is a useful information, just put it there in case.

Hey guys, I know this doesn't fix displays the Samsung 2233RZs that exhibit ghosting at the top of the display, but...
The new Acer displays are quite amazing. I had a chance to play around on several at CES, and everything about my 3D experience on them was superior to my experience on my Samsung 2233RZ. Better color, better sharpness, no ghosting (and I looked) and a bigger display to boot. You might find this link a little enlightening (you can select different comparisons from the drop down in the middle): http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=...=7352&ph=12
And I'm still hoping to get an official response about the ghosting issue. I know NVIDIA isn't ignorant of the situation.

Same ghosting problem here, about the lower 20% of the screen (I'm using a big CRT unit)
Sure looks like a sync issue between glasses <---> video timing.
Several posts back, changing video timings was mentioned- I assume by altering vertical porch and sync width settings. Anyone have a chance to try this?

But from link you provided if I look at all tests (e.g. gaming - worst result) Samsung is better than Acer. So I do not understand what you are talking about.
I guess at CES there is big placebo effect.
Only what is good about Acer is that it's full hd.
But anyway I will probably buy it (although Acer does not do good stuff).

The only test where the Samsung is better than the Acer is input lag, and only very slightly (3ms average). The ghosting, and we're talking about typical LCD ghosting, not the 3D Vision ghosting that affects the top part of many of the Samsung 2233RZ displays, is comparable between the two displays, and not bad on either. The Acer units I observed exhibit no top portion ghosting, making them better than the Samsung 2233RZ with ghosting just by default. The Samsung unit has particularly horrible color and grays until its calibrated (even then it still falls short of the Acer) and that calibration is lost in 3D mode (many users have already commented that in 3D mode their adjusted settings are reverted to the factory defaults).

Thanks for that tip.

Sure looks like a sync issue between glasses <---> video timing.
Several posts back, changing video timings was mentioned- I assume by altering vertical porch and sync width settings. Anyone have a chance to try this?
Thanks, Mark

But from link you provided if I look at all tests (e.g. gaming - worst result) Samsung is better than Acer. So I do not understand what you are talking about.
I guess at CES there is big placebo effect.
Only what is good about Acer is that it's full hd.
But anyway I will probably buy it (although Acer does not do good stuff).
