I don't think he's trying to play 3D DVDs, from what he says I understand his DVD is just a regular 2D DVD and he tried to play it in 3D. (if he had a 3D DVD and failed to play it he would see both views overlapping each other)
Nvidia 3D vision player can only play movies in 3D if it's got a left and right eye view in the video. Nvidia does not provide software to convert 2D movies to 3D (the driver is only for games).

If you're looking for a movie player with 2D to 3D conversion, try Cyberlink Power DVD 10 ultra mkII

So in my case, I have a 580, ASUS 3D display connected via DVI, the 3D glasses, and a blu-ray drive connected to my system. Would I be able to watch a 3D blu-ray and get the 3D effect? I haven't tried this yet just because I haven't run across any discs to try yet. Other than that I know the 3D works OK on my system.

As long as you have the software to play 3d blu rays. PowerDVD is the most known, but I recommend Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre. There are a couple more options available, none that are free unfortunately.

Hi

the NVIDIA 3D Vision video player plays back video files, not Blu-ray 3Ds not does it convert 2D DVDs to 3D.

You will need to purchase sw like Cyberlink PowerDVD or Arcsoft Total Media Theater if you want those features.
