By enabling scaling on the display in Nvidia control planel you should be also able to play in 1080p by activating 3D on the TV and selecting line interleave. The inconvenient is higher input-lag. I don't know the details of that set but on older is working.

Line interleaved looks pretty bad though.... You can play at a lower resolution but you get a window in the middle of the screen. Still bigger then a 24" monitor at 1080p native and looks way better then any 3D vision ready display but You'd have to sit really close. lol

Unfortunately my 2016 LG 4K TV doesn't have line interleave (also checkerboard) option only SBS and T&B, probably other 2016 models don't have that option too. But maybe OLED models luckier than mine.

Your LG Passive TV "does not" need line-interleaved as an option, it's the native format of the display. If a stereoscopic image is received in a line interleaved format, it simply displays it. SbS and TnB when received by a Passive Film Pattern Retarded TV, must be converted to line interleaved in order to be displayed.

2015 and previous models have a manual line interleaved option in 3D options that's what joker18 and I'm talking about. When using not supported resolutions you have to use that to activate 3D.

Yes as Lacuna said. Older models of 4K LGTV (it seems) had Line interleaved option in 1080p because the image is aligned for 2160p but not 1080p

TBH I wasn't aware that 2016 models lack this.

Well that's shitty. Contact LG support, they can be very receptive and if you are lucky, they'll add it back in, if possible.

I'm a little torn. I've currently got a 46-inch 1080p display that works really well with the helixmod games. The nice thing about 1080p is that it's practically always supported by the game, plus I nearly never have performance issues since 1080p is relatively low-res for modern graphics cards.

While I feel like getting the 4K TV would be more future-proof, I'd hate to have to keep my existing TV connected to play certain games in the shorter term (either for performance reasons or resolution-support reasons).

For a passive display, this is more like just driving a single 4K screen, because it's interlaced. Half of 4K, then doubled for 3D. I haven't used 4K this way, but everything I've read suggests that a single 1080 is not up to the job unless you turn down some settings.

I don't think you will be happy with a single 1080 driving 4K for 3D. For a passive display, this is more like just driving a single 4K screen, because it's interlaced. Half of 4K, then doubled for 3D.

I haven't used 4K this way, but everything I've read suggests that a single 1080 is not up to the job unless you turn down some settings.

I loved my previous 47" 1080p 3D LG but couldn't stand screen door effect (visible pixels in 3D), so I had to play from 3 meters or more. With 55" 4k TV even in the muddy hell of 720p it's gorgeous. Because no visible pixels, can get really close to TV (1.5-1.2 meters is my usual), also 2016 model LGs have very low lag. 4K Passive 3D experience is the Everest of 3D gaming for me, if you climb the top you don't want to go down again.

Thanks for the feedback. I got my first 3D display in 2012, and can't imagine gaming without it now. The community support with patches has been great and basically drives my gaming purchases. It's frustrating that 3D gaming hasn't taken off, though, and the recent removal of 3D support from the latest generation of TVs seems like it could be a major challenge in the coming years.
