Official Thread: 3D Vision 2 and 3D LightBoost Feel free to ask me questions

Ok.. it's been 4 more days since I took that pics on my previous post. So far, this oval shape halo didn't get any better. It actually looks worse than before. I contacted newegg for returning and my shipping label expires tomorrow. At this point, I am really considering sending this monitor back and wait for new one coz it's not showing any improvement for past 9 days of using this monitor. :(
I don't think asus will pay cross-shipping and that still won't guarantee they are going to fix it so I might as well just return it and wait for next version. :(
EDIT: I've decided to return it to newegg. I've packed it to box and printed out shipping label. I will take it to ups tomorrow before my return period and shipping label expires. I am going back to my acer hn274h for now and probably buy it again when they release updated version or something. Sigh.. So much for the high expectation. Now I took out my acer hn274h out of box again and set it up, I don't really see that much of difference from asus vg278h. Only thing I will miss is faster turn on speed and seemingly faster switch between 2d and 3d speed on asus vg278h. Hopefully, they release fixed version soon or some other company come up with better monitor. Right now, I decided that asus vg278h as of now with all these issues don't worth extra $200 loss on me to upgrade.

I am goimg to chime back in on this one as a few more days have passed. The oval has become more apparent, I can only hope it does not get worse. Luckily, it is only slighly noticable when the display is on a black background during gaming and movies, which may be only 5% of the time. It's enough of a defect that I have to recommend that nobody buy this monitor. I already sold my Acer and can't get it back, so stuck with what to do with this one. Do you send it back to Newegg and then get something worse. It's still very functional so will probably be fine until a new and better version (non Asus) is released. This is an absolute shameful product release by Asus, there is no way they did not know of this problem in their testing.

I was going to wait and see if this issue was widespread or not before buying but decided it doesnt matter if it "only" affects lets say 10/100 monitors(totally making that number up, it could be all of them for all I know)...it is too much of a gamble at such a high price.

I'm thinking about getting the Asus VG278H, as I said in another thread. Should I go ahead and buy it and keep my fingers crossed that I don't get one with the oval? Or should I either wait for a better monitor or buy a more reliable one? I really want the VG278H, but only if it's unlikely the issue will persist.

I'd wait. We don't know how many production units out there are experiencing this. It sure seems like a lot, and even if it was only a bad run, you have no way of knowing what you're getting until ASUS figures it out.

What's funny is I opted for the Acer 27"...got it home, turned it on, and lo and behold, it has the EXACT SAME HALO EFFECT! lol... Anyone seen talk of the Acer getting it too? I'm probably not going to return it, it isnt that noticeable in most conditions. If I had known I would have got the ASUS...oh well.

My acer hn274h don't have this oval halo bleeding. I had it for 6 months now. I have zero problems. :)
As for asus vg278h, I sent it back. It's no longer sold out at newegg coz there are tons of people complaining about it there too and I guess that makes people hesitate to buy it. On the bright side, Asus are now taking this issue more seriously. They are posting bunch of manufacturer's response on all these 1 or 2 egg reviews and saying they are trying to duplicate the issue and come up with fix. Hopefully, we get to see revised version in next month or two. I really liked asus vg278h coz it has sturdier built and faster booting and 2d to 3d transite time than acer hn274h. :(

I am not so sure how my acer hn274h looked like coz I already put it back to box and was gonna sell it to friend. I am too lazy to unbox it and set it up again but I might do so and see if acer hn274h had same problem or not. anyway, here's screen shot and pretty much this is how mine looks like. I already got my rma # from newegg but gonna wait a week and see how this goes b4 i ship it back to them. how is yours?
edit: i took out my acer hn274h to compare with asus vg278h.
pic 1: one on top left is asus vg278h. acer hn274h pic came out more bluish and bigger due to monitor position. acer one was too closer and lower so color is slightly off.
pic 2: acer hn274h close look. it doesn't have halo. it looks whitish but don't have halo. everything has spread evenly.
pic 3: oval halo.. i hope it gets better in time.

These look normal to me. As the screen gets more angled to the camera, it will lighten. I would stop looking for it unless something has changed.

I've been using my Asus vg278h since Saturday, and I have to say I couldn't be happier. I have checked every night looking for the oval shape using dead pixel buddy black image. While there is light bleeding (similar to what I had previously on my Acer hn274). But gaming has been a nice improvement. I saw a noticeable difference and less crosstalk (ghosting) then I saw on my previous Acer monitor, and a huge difference than my Panasonic P42GT25 2010 plasma tv.
I was really expecting the worst with this model. Spent the first view days examining this monitor instead of enjoying it waiting for something to go horribly wrong. But, after playing Skyrim, Orc must die, Crysis 2, Witcher, NBA 2k12, Arkham City, and watching Tron 3D. I'm really impressed. I think that this monitor with light boost is about a 25-30% improvement over my previous Acer monitor. And about 40% better than playing with 3D play on my Plasma tv. Although that's not a fair comparison since 3D play only allows me to play in 720p 60hz or 1080p at 24hz.
I'll update if anything goes wrong but so far smooth sailing. Maybe this is a slightly refined model? Not sure but I did get it from newegg if anyone was interested.

Alright nice to hear polorsport and im sure I gonna do the same, check more for errors then play atleast in the first few days hehe!
Cant wait for it, finaly a big 27 inch screen :)
Btw I had the new Benq XL2420T but sent it back the other day as I not liking it a bit. Some pretty bad crosstalk and the colours was way way off!

Uhhh.....I've just been without a monitor since Halloween when I sold my Acer hn274h because of the release of 3D vision 2.

Cant wait for it, finaly a big 27 inch screen :)
Btw I had the new Benq XL2420T but sent it back the other day as I not liking it a bit. Some pretty bad crosstalk and the colours was way way off!
